Okay, let's do this.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Sewan Salisbury to usc Troupes, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury, Dan.

Speaker 3 (00:14):
Matthewscuse, this is the Sean Salisbury show.

Speaker 1 (00:23):
What that is? Driven deep till I feel that.

Speaker 4 (00:27):
Sends back soda strump and you will watch that one go.

lead with his eleventh home run of the year.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
He want two sway, you.

Speaker 4 (00:38):
Got a mess, talk about it, a change up down
in a way, A career high age strikeouts for Gusto
and there are two outs.

Speaker 5 (00:46):
The pitch is a liner at the middle, could be too.
Wilson's got at the Shortstopstet's on second out and over
to first base. Double play, so Payne will be left
on deck. Another double play for the Astros.

Speaker 4 (00:59):
Here one two swinging a mess chase the slider off
that played away and jt Gin strikes out the side.

Nick Kurtz with a walk off home run, a two
run shot his seventh hold run of the season and
his second game winner in the last two days, a's
walk off the Astros three to one loulder car.

Speaker 6 (01:36):
It is Sean Salisbury show, Sports Talk seven ninety. Away
we go in good morning here on your home of
the Astros Sports Talk seven ninety where you just heard
Robert Ford spell it out for you. Not a great
ending last night out there in Sacramento as you get
eight hits in the game, and it was the double plays,

(01:57):
not being able to get anything going after the jose
L two Va home run in the first inning. But
the good news is Ryan Gusto pretty good for you
last night. Spots start for him. That's because Lance McCullers
junior on the il with a foot sprain. Yet again,
Good morning, good morning. You just hit me with a

(02:19):
lot of layers right there. I thought Gusto pitched really well.
Especially it was the German chocolate cake of how the
Astros game and how the Astros recent news has gone.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
There you go, that's pretty much what it was. Four layers.
There you go, and you did you get I love
a good German chocolate with some ice cold milk all in. Yeah, one,
that's not bury. The lead, even though it sucked. Good
bat flip by Kurtz. What if that our expense? It
sucks for like, okay, for a team that doesn't get

(02:51):
to celebrate much because they don't win a lot. Uh.
He got himself a ball that felt like it was
hovering around the plate for about three minutes before he
hit it. It was austri uh yeah uh and in
the middle of the strike zone where he could he
barreled that ball up and not a good place to
live and hit himself and smoked it. But that's one

(03:12):
Gusto was really really good. Sure no he was uh
bats again, the consistency of driving run after run after running. Well,
last night they got a good pitching performance. Unfortunate that,
you know, the walk off job on to bray you,
but good pitching again, good enough to win. Batch just

(03:32):
weren't good enough to win, and well they were the
three nights before. Now is it a panic and oh
my gosh, no no, But here's what I do believe.
Losing games like that, I almost feel like they bug
me more than losing to the Yankees. Yankees are supposed
to beat you once. And I'm not saying that Oakland

(03:54):
A's got a payroll too, not a real big one.
They got to payroll two. So I mean, as you said,
they're gonna scrap man and good hitters. You throw them
a pitch, shak and drive. Even if you don't know
who they are, they can rip it. There's a reason
why they're at the major league level. But losses like
that bugged me. I know, they hey, they've won five
or six in this streak. Now it's five out of seven.

(04:15):
But losses like that come back and get you at
the end of the year if you're not careful. That's
all I'm saying. I mean, listen, all of a sudden,
you know, Mike Trout, Homer's off you, You're like, okay,
this is really good. Or all of a sudden you
get beat by you know, two out of three by
a team that's that's rolled of the Detroit Tigers and schools.
I get it. I mean, that's going to happen. It's

(04:37):
these Now the rest of the series will be obviously important,
but it's these you go back to that. Not only
did they lose it, it was a gut wrenching loss
because it was walk off fashion against the guy who's
pretty damn good, right, so that's that's another layer to that,
and so that when I woke up this way and
it was close, back and forth, like I said, after
Gusto went out, it was time to shut it down
because all the trouble. I know you probably felt the

(04:59):
same way. But then the first thing I did is
look and I'm watching him batflip, kurts back, batflip, and
I'm like, okay, And then I thought these losses bugged me.
It's like as a player getting beat by a really
good Bears team when we when I was playing, or
losing to Denver, which we didn't do, but losing with
el Way, Okay, he's gonna get his. But if you're

(05:23):
playing a one to eight team, even if it's on
the road and you're seventeen point favorite, hard to swallow
makes sense. Losing the tighten sure, right. Those kind of ones,
even as a player or watch, they hurt more because
inevitably they're the ones who they're they're the ones that
keep you out of where you want to go. Now
it's a game. We've always said, you're going to lose

(05:44):
seventy of them this year, so deal with it, or
more seventy two of them seventy three, seventy four of
them and still make the playoffs. But those are the
ones that are. And then lastly, I just the mccolors thing,
it's his What make sure that he said was what
is his? Is? Is it turf toe? Maybe? I mean

(06:11):
they said it is a foot sprain, So that's why
said I was gonna say ankle, but his foot right? Yes?

Speaker 6 (06:19):
Ah, how something in the weight room rolled it. Mh
a freak accident, they said.

Speaker 1 (06:30):
I don't even know how to. I just you know
how I feel about him. I think he's a hell
of a picture and I root for his comeback. This
can't happen, dude, it just can't because inevitably, here's what
happens is when this happens, you start saying, are you

(06:51):
kidding me? Now, it's not his arms, it's a weight
room and it's an ankle or a toe. There comes
a point in time when I mean, I know it's
obvious or he would have pitched, and I know he
wants to. It's just baffling to me of all the
things that go on. It makes you look up and
it's eye rolling. It's like, how if that's the case, dude,

(07:12):
stay in your hotel and tell us time to pitch.
Go on around saying you to have room service delivered
all the time. Staut of the way, you know what
I'm I'm being a hyperbolic, But it gets to the
point where if there's any get rid of that, you
know that cloud that falls around the hell you have
a steak knife and you decide to use a butter
knife and you get a hangnail from the butter knife

(07:34):
because you didn't have a steak knife, and you cut
it and it hits your hangnail. I mean, it's like
of all the things that go on a weight room
tow you're kidding me, right when I saw that he
was missing the start, yes, I'm like, what the first
thing come to my mind is what I've been talking
about on this show in between starts. How does his
arm recover? Right as the season rolls along and he

(07:54):
putting these innings in and this time and this strain
and stress that there's obviously a lot of stress on
your arm when you're I mean it's not the bullpen.
I mean not meaning in the game in the bullpen,
but it's not your warm up session, and it's like
or warm up tosses between innings. I'm like, you gotta
be and I found out this foot or toe ankle,
I'm like, what how, It's just it's always something and

(08:19):
it's it's like I said, it's not on purpose, obviously,
but it's just so frustrating, which must be really frustrating
to him. But it's bad enough that he had to
miss a start, a couple of them at least. How
a freak accident. I can only go off what I'm told, Sean,

(08:40):
what we're told. Yeah, okay, I I mean, I guess
I'm not concerned about his arm in between starts anymore.
I gotta worry about it dropping a forty five pound
Marsy Dumbell on your MARSIU, a freeweight on your forty
five pound plate on your toe, or wucking and squatting

(09:01):
and you roll your ankle or I don't know. I
don't know. I'm trying to I don't know, but whatever
it is, it's a first for a picture.

Speaker 6 (09:12):
I would think I haven't heard it too many of
these happening. I mean, we've had some freak injuries in
baseball before.

Speaker 1 (09:19):
Well was it?

Speaker 6 (09:20):
Sammy Sosa threw out his back on a sneeze or something.

Speaker 1 (09:23):
Now you know what, I actually even buy that more
have you ever? Have you ever are being around people,
try to hold the sneeze back in the middle of
your between your shoulder blades. Dude, happened to me on
the drive home. Sneeze, try to hold it back sitting
that's spraining it all over the windshild and you got
a dog. Sit now and you do it. And I'm
telling you the spasms it'll hit if you do try
to resist the sneeze to the point and where you're

(09:44):
not relaxed and you just don't let it out. I'm
just telling you, dude, I get that because I've felt
it between my shoulder blades before. But the spasm that
keeps you out a long time, I don't know. And
I understand like the then you get the injuries that
you roll your eyes say, there'll be s this right
that that didn't happen. The guy didn't fall down four
flights of stairs and then had a ripped a scab

(10:06):
open on his finger. And so when the.

Speaker 6 (10:07):
Retail David Cohne got bit by his mom's dog or something.

Speaker 1 (10:12):
Yeah, I mean that that that almost falls out of
the dog stolen by homework. You know what I mean.
It wasn't a dog, I'm telling you, Jeff Kent. Wasn't
he on a motorcycle? Jeff Kenton? Well, he tried at first,
I think, to say that he was washing either his
truck or his motorcycle or something. But then you were it. No,
you weren't. You were doing wheelies in the parking lot, right,

(10:32):
and that's what's right. And your contract probably specifically said
no motorcycle or.

Speaker 6 (10:38):
Wasn't it moistists Aloo tried to say that he heard
it on a treadmill, but then they were like, no,
you were playing pickup ball.

Speaker 1 (10:44):
Dude, yeah, hooping right right. I mean, so it says
that contract. Yeah, we all want it, but I'm not
saying that, just that it's almost beyond belief that a
guy who's worked his ass off to get back has
to miss a start or two because of a weight
room freak accent. Mm hmm. I'd rather you lie to me,

(11:04):
you know what I'm saying. The shoulders just sore, right,
arms just sorry now forearms just sore. Got a hamstring, yeah,
wrist yet whatever. Now I saw it doing it. It's
like I can't. I can't I can't. I can't even Yeah,
maybe just lie to me. Yeah, hey, man, Jesus throwing
that bench pressed around on the shoulders and he was

(11:26):
throwing up three fifty and it got a little tight.
So we said, let's not start today. No, you get
my point though, right after all that, that's what's keep
your hous starting crazy crazy stuff. Yeah, that's frustrating, frustrating
to say the least. Yeah, it is.

Speaker 6 (11:42):
I mean, because you want him to be out there,
you want him to contribute, and I mean we talked
about it earlier on what was it Andy had One
of our callers said said ten starts this year, which
remember annoyed me a little bit because I was like, well,
you asked us and then you just wanted to give
us your answer. Okay, fine, I think he still makes
fifteen plus starts this year. I mean I don't think

(12:04):
that that's in danger. What he'd already made six so
far to this point. And maybe this will keep him
out two weeks a month something because sprains. That's the
other part too, is ankles and feet. I mean it's
one of those that you probably have to boot it,
so you want to immobilize it for a little bit.

Speaker 1 (12:22):
But then here's the problem. You're gonna have to build
him back up again.

Speaker 6 (12:26):
He's gonna have to get the strength back in his
arm to throw and to be able to use said foot.
So I mean, that's the frustrating part of it all too.

Speaker 1 (12:34):
I can't this is to the point where a walkoff
home runs bother me less than that. I think there's
a lot of Astros fans that feel that way. It's
bugging me now. I hate, like I said, walk off
home run to that team going on the road and
give them credit for their energy, but those hurt I

(12:54):
can accept it on a rate. Now, go FI win
the series. Let's just leave it at that, Okay, But yeah,
that the wall to walk off. You know, it's a
bummer the way it happened and the pitch that he hit.
But even this even more so. And Gusto did a
hell of a job, but gosh, thang to say and
then and then and then knowing what the injury is
it's like and how it happened, or at least in

(13:15):
the area it happened, is baffling to me, absolutely baffling.
And you're right, how severe is he in a boot?
How long do they say he's in a boot.

Speaker 6 (13:24):
No, but I mean I just I had to guess. Yeah,
he want you to be able to speed up the
recovery time.

Speaker 1 (13:31):
We're in mid so you tell me mid July for
this possibly, so it's a this isn't just a roll
over your ankle and then the next day I'm feeling better.
I'll see you on Friday type of thing. They wouldn't
have him if not right exactly. So I go around

(13:51):
in the country asking to be Hey, Lance got put
on iel. You think any of one said, oh, weight
room freak accident for his lower half. They said, no,
what's going on with his arm is okay, which is
positive for us. So it's not like, oh, ucl or
something's wrong again. Sure, it's somewhere as far removed from
that area as possible, but still, you've got to be
kidding me. Building the momentum now it's going to take

(14:13):
a step back for him I'm talking about and just
his constant rhythm of starters and this team can't afford.
I mean, well I guess they can, but to keep
having to find somebody else to go start another game incredible.
I mean, Dustill goes and hammers what's eight nine strikeouts
last night. Yeah, he was great, and he was fantastic

(14:33):
six things. Damn right, he was didn't get a lot
of time to think about do his thing. But it's
just baffling this Lane's what colors injury baffles me.

Speaker 6 (14:41):
Well, I think a lot of people are singing that
same tune that you are this morning. But you know,
we'll have to hope that it is a short il
stint for mcculors. I mean, you had Joe Aspotas saying
that he is optimistic yesterday, But then again, how many
times we heard that before. I mean, it's just that's
that's the only reaction we have chemist right, Well, I
mean sure, but I mean it is also too. I

(15:03):
think kind of the frustration that goes into that part
with this team that a lot of people have is, oh,
we don't expect it to be long. And then I
mean Verlanders last year with the neck, Oh, we don't
expect it to be long.

Speaker 1 (15:14):
Three months later, three months later, finally we saw him back.
I'll I'll gather my own feelings on how long this is,
and I just how does this stuff happen?

Speaker 6 (15:29):
It's frustrating, There's no doubt about it that seems to
be the theme of this morning here on the Sean
Salisbury Show when it comes to the Astros, not just
with the loss, but another part of the loss yesterday.
We'll talk about it here. It is a Sean Salisbury show,
just getting going on a Tuesday. Is Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 7 (15:46):
A lot of this high fastballs mccallor's junior. If he's
just an Astros you're listening to Sean Salisbury on Sports
Talk seven ninetys. How about the performance your home for
Houston Astros baseball.

Speaker 6 (16:00):
It is kind of just pages in a letter at
this point. When it comes to another part of the
frustration is you get one run last night against an
A's team that has been playing better ball as of late.
I mean, with that win last night, they've now won
four straight, swept the Royals over the weekend in Kansas City. Hey,
that's not nothing, but three you get beat three to

(16:23):
one last night, You only get that one run on
the leadoff home run by Jose Altuve in the first
And usually the next metric we go to is runners
left on base, runners in scoring position. All of those things.
Zero for five with runners in scoring position not great,
but it's not the worst. And also you ground into

(16:43):
two double plays you line out into one, which that's
another part of it too as well.

Speaker 1 (16:48):
The hell's Jake Myers doing there? I mean that's Little
league baseball where you learn freeze on a line drive,
see it go through, then you take off, but his
momentum carries them too far off first base and he
gets doubled off back there first. Yep, your natural reaction
is not to go back. It's your natural actions to
go forward right and to be aggressive, and so ball

(17:11):
hit first. It's like when a ball is a line
drives city the center fielder, what do they normally do
for I mean, some take but one you think it's
going to be a sinking line drive, you go up
and ends up over your head and sometimes you know
what I'm saying, sure a charge. But it's the same
thing here. I think the momentum that naturally when you
see a line drive hit is too it's going through.
You're just it's reaction. The problem is you got to

(17:34):
the reaction's got to be so quick, the quick twitch
to get back to the base, and it almost freezes you.
You know, because you also say, well, if it's a
base hitting the gap or something I want to get through.
It's a bummer, but as a veteran you probably got
to know better. You just do.

Speaker 6 (17:47):
Yeah, I mean, and especially too, I mean for being
one of the guys that you're counted on to be
one of the better base runners for this team. I mean,
that's the frustrating part too. But you know that's one
of three double plays that you either lined it out
into or grounded into last night. And I mean the
other frustrations just continue. Where you get the home run

(18:07):
from jose l TV. That's nice, one for four night
out of him, one for four with a single from
Christian Walker to twelve on the season, and a couple
of strikeouts you had to get when he faced Mason
Miller there in the ninth inning, I knew, without a
shadow of a doubt, this isn't gonna go.

Speaker 1 (18:23):
Well. Yeah, he can ramp it up a little bit
canty one on one, Yeah, and that's on that may
be on the low side at times, from he can
he can pump it up there. So yeah, no shock there.
I just I don't need him to hit two eighty five,
but two forty five, two sixty five somewhere, and that
range would be nice. And what's he at now? He's

(18:44):
almost with nine home runs, eight home runs somewhere in
that range. Yeah, he's nine home runs last season, so
you know, on pace to what hits you eighteen of them. Yeah,
I could use it about a half dozen more right
over that and maybe he'll on that street. But you're waiting.
But it's the kind like I said, that's why I
don't jump through the ceiling when somebody goes four for

(19:05):
four one night and they're hitting one ninety seven, I
got to see. It's a consisting of a month where
you put together good at bats well, and that's just it.

Speaker 6 (19:13):
I mean, it's it's it's the frustrating saga that has
been Christian Walker through seventy two games this season and.

Speaker 1 (19:21):
That position for the better part of three years now.

Speaker 6 (19:23):
Yeah, bingo, I mean that's that's just been it that
you haven't been able to find anybody over there that
can consistently put together And Steve Sparks said yesterday good
at bat right, I mean you've seen good things at times,
but when I pay three years sixty million for a
guy that's supposed to shore up that position every once
in a while, just isn't gonna cut it.

Speaker 1 (19:43):
Yeah, no, it's true, and it was a no brainer
to upgrade the position, right, and I think they did.
But you know, seventy plus games in, you'red the frustration
of okay, win and if somebody tells me, you know
who your team is or the trend of your team
seven sixty to seventy seventy five games in worth there

(20:07):
and what happened Obviously the longer goes, but the batting average,
it's the slugging and the driving in runs and the
constant grade at bats for him that are gonna be
You don't You don't think you're sitting to ninety and
needed do I And we knew that wasn't gonna happen
when he came here. But there's got to be more
pop there. You just did without Jordon, and even with
Jordon that's got to be in the lineup. Pardus can't

(20:27):
lead this team in home runs, that makes sense. I mean,
he can, but you get my point. He came back
last night, so that's it was less frustrated, right, and
it obviously pretty tough. Didn't let it keep him down
very long. Took care of his business. So my point
is is that. I mean, what a blessing if he's
able to, you know, continue to hit the ball out
of the ballpark. But you're gonna need Walker, and you're

(20:48):
gonna need Diaz and you're gonna need Jordon Alvarez to
do so because you put a lot another you put
a lot of strain good pitching in the bullpen and
last night starting pitching for Gusto and you get to
the night than a guy you can rely on usually
as your eighth inning guy, you know, hangs one up
there and gets hammered. So pitching once again, does everything
that they need to do. You give up three runs

(21:11):
against the A's, you would expect to win. I'll just
put it to you that way. You would hope. Yeah,
And it doesn't shock me how you know when Mason
Miller's pitching, I mean, you better get it started early,
and he's got some stuff that everybody wants a piece of.
Not the opposing hitter, but every team would like to
have that type of guy. So yeah, Christian Walker, I'm

(21:32):
curious to see what happens when a guy like him starts,
if and when he gets going. I know what happens
to the team when Jose does and you're done that
if you get two or three of those big bats
in the middle that we've talked about going. At the
same time, I'm looking forward to seeing what this version
of it looks like.

Speaker 6 (21:49):
Well, and yet another night where the offense is minimal
at best for you, where you get the three runs
on Saturday, you get two on Sunday, and then you
get one yesterday where you're just like like.

Speaker 1 (22:04):
And your starting pitcher gave you enough, and that's just it.

Speaker 6 (22:07):
Where it's it's another loss that I understand. There's also
been wins that you've had. I mean Saturday and Sundays.
I just mentioned the pitching is what helped you win
that game.

Speaker 1 (22:16):
Get some key hits.

Speaker 6 (22:17):
Oh sure, and that's and that's fine, but it's just
it's also too Why do you continue to put your
pitchers in this position? That's the frustrating part of it all.
Why do you continue to do this?

Speaker 1 (22:28):
Like? Where where is the change? When does it happen?
Is it what kind of change you want? You want
change in the way they're doing it? Do you want
change in the lineup?

Speaker 6 (22:36):
I want a guy that I'm paying sixty million over
three years to be able to be a reliable bat
in the middle of the lineup.

Speaker 1 (22:42):
So far he has not been. It is the frustration
also with him, not just the money and the expectation
bringing him here, but does the past at the position
for the last three years affect your thoughts too. It's
like it's hyper sensitive. I know it is from me
because of the lack of production at first base. It's
become on this team the last three years. It's become a.

Speaker 8 (23:07):
Now.

Speaker 1 (23:07):
Christian Walker has a lot of respect around the league,
no doubt, and he can beat you with the long ball.
But for the most part, teams are not coming to
this ballparker when you go visit them on the road,
sit there saying, man, we got a Vlad grayl type
at first base ball. You you got to get him
out right now. It's you pitch him pretty well, you
got a good chance of getting him out. And that's

(23:29):
going for a lot of the guys with the bat
and their hand on this team. It really is, and
especially in a part of the lineup where they absolutely
are going to have to have it. It is such
a and I know pitching goes out there and expects
to pitch well every night, but you're asking a lot
of them for you to be scoring one, two and
three runs. And you're also asking a lot of yourself
to be consistent with, Oh, it's one to one, and

(23:51):
get the hit that gets you the walk off single
to write, or gets you the walk off home run
like you saw for them last night or this past weekend,
to get that the sacrifice fly. Right, You put a
lot on you when it comes down to one swing
of the bat. Plus you also allow average teams when
you allow them to hang around, one swing of the
bat also can get you last night. Yeah, So what

(24:12):
happens is it's like in football, you let a team
that sticks around for a minute and they stick around,
Vanderbilt Bama a couple of years ago, right, let them
stick around when they have no business playing with you,
just on the sheer skill set alone. They hang around
all sudden fourth quarter hits, you know what, they're even
looking around saying, one turnover on the right hit and
one big play and we beat them, and there you go.

(24:34):
It's the same thing here. You let teams you're supposed
to beat hang around. One swing of the bat sends
you to game two and you've lost. You're already down
one in the series on the road in a minor
league ballpark, and that's exactly what happened. So you're asking
a lot and if let's be real, at some point
in time, dask these guys to go six and seven

(24:54):
innings and keep the score below three, and you're giving
them one or two. It's going to backfire on you
if it continues. It just absolutely is. Well. The law
of averages tell you that it is. I mean, it's
even as a lot of metrics it'll point that out too.

Speaker 6 (25:09):
But even as good as this group has been, no doubt,
you cannot continue to think that this is sustainable to
believe that you're going to continue winning games this way
because you're not well.

Speaker 1 (25:19):
I'll tell you what o rear its head is when
the pitching staff does go through a few struggles, and
as Steve Spark said, it will happen. Sure it's a
long it happens to every one of them. Is what's
going to happen is and you're scoring one or two runs,
then you're going to find that see that winning streak
where you win five out of six, or eight out
of ten, or twelve out of fourteen, He'll go the
other way. Now you'll go two and ten on the

(25:41):
last twelve, you're gonna have to get some You're asking
a lot. Gusto pitched well enough, as did the bullpen
until you got to a brave to win last night,
and one run is not going to do it on
the road in a ballpark with some feisty young players
that are trying to prove that they belong and you'll
hang him. A high schooler is going to hit that
out of the ballpark if he's a good player, because
you would note stuck it into submit mix for any

(26:02):
basis hanging there and hovering like the matrix and the
guy it felt like you put it on a tee
and then he smoked it and has the ball game.
So that's gonna happen. And this pitching staff doesn't blow
much the hitting. The hitting's going to have to improve. Well.

Speaker 6 (26:16):
You keep walking the tightrope like that, soon enough you
fall off. And that's what happened to the Astros last
night again, losing on a walk off to run homer
by Nick Kurtz there in the bottom of the ninth inning.
All Right, for all of the things that we've talked
about this morning that have annoyed us with the Astros.
They did something yesterday that actually made us happy. We'll
talk about it right here. It is the Shaan Salisbury Show,

(26:37):
Sports Talk seven ninety Not before I tell you about
my friends over at one eight hundred car Cash. That's
one eight hundred at two two seven twenty two seventy four.
And I've said it numerous times. You've got the power.
You know the song I've Got the Power. Well maybe
I can't sing it as well as they do, but anyway,
you've got the trust. You know that you are dealing

(26:59):
with trained professionals when you call one eight hundred car
Cash again, that's one eight hundred two two seven twenty
two seventy four.

Speaker 1 (27:08):
These are pros.

Speaker 6 (27:09):
Pros pros even if you will, they know cars and
they are looking out for you. These are men and
women that have been in the car business for years,
and they know how much your car is worth, and
they know how to maximize the value for you. When
you are selling your car. You can, you know, look
on your phone, your computer, your tablet anytime, and if
there's ever any news about cars, well a lot of

(27:31):
times you're gonna hear that they're looking for retail ready
cars and you might be listening to this right now saying, Hey,
I've got one of those and I've been thinking about upgrading. Well,
if you do that, do yourself a favor and call
one eight hundred car Cash. That's one eight hundred two
two seven twenty two seventy four. You never know how
much your car is worth until you give the people
at one eight hundred car Cash a call. That's again

(27:54):

at carcash dot com. The seven ninety listener line in
the six o'clock hour is brought to you by one
eight hundred car Cash.

Speaker 1 (28:15):
They tried to pin it all on them, Jeff Bridges.
He always gets the short end of the stick. Yeah,
great actor, though, great Now I do. I think he's
a great actor. Cracks me up in The Big Lebowski,
no question, I'm the dude man. Have you seen Hell
or High Water? Oh? Yes, great movie. The diner scene
always cracks me up with the lady yeah hot and
I don't mean the good con Now, what don't you want?

(28:37):
It didn't matter what they ordered. She was ordered for.

Speaker 6 (28:40):
Him tamo own steaks. That's medium rare. Actually that want
no question.

Speaker 1 (28:44):
Is exactly great movie though a real waitress, by the way,
I think at that same diner right, well, she might
have to be an actress now because she pulled that
off too to perfection, just be it herself. This uh this,
now I'm sitting here thinking about movie. He's about your
point of the original point was about the squall. Yeah,

(29:07):
squall squall coming through it. The College World series. Yeah,
the two things. Uh, that picture is nasty. I mean,
we haven't had a no no in the College World
Series since when nineteen sixty? Yeah, it's been a long time.
But first round pick if I'm not mistaken too, Oh yeah, yeah,
he'll he'll be. He's like a top ten type probably

(29:30):
pick Yeah, but he won't. No, he sure won't. Was
fantastic though. Yesterday I saw clips. I didn't see the game,
but I saw and boy was he And obviously I've
heard about him, but in watching some of the he
was He's pretty damn good. And anytime you throw a
no no against the way with aluminum bats and the
rest of that's impressive, especially in that setting. But that squall,
I don't know about you, but how hard was it

(29:51):
raining in your area? Yesterday?

Speaker 6 (29:53):
It was thundering, but I don't think we got a
single drop. It kind of skirted around us. It's amazing, dude,
in fullsher it was delush. It was like a hurricane
was coming to that. I mean, the wind was howling.
Then it just stopped and got little hail and then
it stopped. And I'm like, usually that that means when
it gets that calm, just look out at the horizon

(30:14):
and see if.

Speaker 1 (30:16):
Right right. So, but yeah, it was it was pounding,
so I get that it wasn't cold, but the temperature
dropped a little bit. Man, that rain was. And then
I looked in Houston and said, oh, nobody was getting
an rain here, but just thirty minutes away or whatever.
I'm full sure.

Speaker 6 (30:29):
Well, first I would tell people if you knew the
city is welcome to Houston, because that is the summer
where it's Oh my god, it's so hot. And wait
till about four o'clock. Oh, where whred that thunderstorm come from?
All the humidity's got to go somewhere. And the other
one too is you better get to the inside of
your house. As you look outside and the sky almost
has like that like metallic look to it, where like

(30:50):
it almost looks like the leaves on trees are turning
kind of gray, and you're just like.

Speaker 1 (30:55):
Oh, yeah, that's not good. Yeah yeah, Now you definitely
have that.

Speaker 6 (31:01):
What's not ominous is information, and that's what the Astros
gave us yesterday. So the game notes that were given
out to the media yesterday, Chandler Rome pointing out that
the Astros included a very helpful and informative injury report
in their game notes under the tab from the trainer's room.

(31:22):
The Astros do not have any players on the injury
list traveling with the club on this road trip, but
a few updates on some sidelined Astros Spencer Getti one
of them. Dana Brown's on us that he'd been doing
flat ground work. He's going to go to Florida later
on this week to continue that progression. Some updates on
guys like JP Franz, Luis Garcia and Christian Javier Your

(31:44):
and On Alvarez Zach Dezenzo staying back in Houston continue
their rehab, they have not progressed to hitting it yet.

Speaker 1 (31:51):
And of course, so here's Dezenzo's injury.

Speaker 6 (31:54):
It was capsule strained, so I'm not really sure right now, Yeah,
strained for him, so I'm not sure how long that
keeps him out. But I mean, obviously we're going on
a couple of weeks now with him.

Speaker 1 (32:05):
It's been been out since I was midway through my vacation.

Speaker 6 (32:08):
And still not swinging a bat, so that probably means
a couple of more weeks. So take that for what
it's worth. Uh, But pedro Leone Chas McCormick, another guy
that's on here. They didn't have Lance on here because
I guess they figured that Joe was going to get
an update on that, so maybe the next one and
when they do this again, we'll have that.

Speaker 1 (32:28):
But it's nothing else. Later in the day. It was
to get it into the report that they probably already had.

Speaker 6 (32:33):
Probably probably I mean, and also I think they probably
figured that for the traveling contingent that's there, Joe's going
to update it, so we'll have it then and you know,
you just knock it out there. But if nothing else,
good job. This is what we've been wanting this is
what we've asked of you.

Speaker 1 (32:51):
I mean a little little communication about the just so
you get an idea. Fine, that's okay, and it was fine.
You're not giving away any you know, corporate secret through
our team secrets, right, it's just it's an injury report
and just letting your people know that care that it's
that you know that it matters to them and the fans,
and it does so good on that man, I just

(33:11):
hate to see it so long of a list with
some good players that were progressing and some veterans that
were as well. Another veteran we need back who can
hit the ball of country mile be nice to see
that one. I'd like to see his name off that
injury report center than later. It absolutely would.

Speaker 6 (33:26):
And you know Dana Brown, who will join us tomorrow
at nine point thirty for his weekly visit. I mean,
hopefully he'll have even better news on your and on
because last time we talked with them, eighty percent on
that healed fracture in his right hand, So maybe we're
up to ninety this time.

Speaker 1 (33:43):
You can bet your ass that Dana would love for
you to come on one of these days where he
doesn't have to talk about any injury. Yeah, he's swinging
the bat right now. Yeah, Lance is healthy and make
a mistake about it. That's right. We'll hap him in
the lineup here pretty soon. He's got grit. That's my family,
because it's true. Grit's a good way. Grit explains everything. Yes,

(34:04):
they had grit on it. Yeah, it said grit right.
It's like in football. This has been a recent term
over the years. He strains. Oh, yeah, which I mean
in this case, strain would not necessarily but you hear
it all the time in football. Yeah, he's strains. What
does that mean? Whatever they wanted to Yeah, something good, right, right,
But yeah, I can't wait for that where data gets
gobout it. We just get to talk baseball, baseball, baseball

(34:26):
as opposed to this guy. This guy, this guy where
he has to play doctor, which I'm sure sucks for him.
He'd like to talk exies and osa baseball as well,
you know, and the execution of it. But now he's
got to come on and deal with the Lance thing,
and then he's got to deal with you. You know,
it would put yourself in issues. It'd be a bummer
to have to deal with it every Wednesday and he's
prepared for it, so we'll go again. But that is

(34:47):
a nice it's a nice and Chandler point. That is
a nice change up pitch for them to get out
in front of that well.

Speaker 6 (34:54):
And also too, I kind of glossed over it. JP
France Christian Haavier Luis Garcia Junior with France. Twenty pitches
in his second live BP on Friday in Florida.

Speaker 1 (35:06):
That's good.

Speaker 6 (35:07):
Twenty five pitches in a side session on Saturday in
Florida for Garcia, and then forty pitches a side session
and then a twenty pitch bullpen earlier yesterday for Christian Hobvier.
So maybe Hobbyer could be closer than people think.

Speaker 1 (35:25):
Boy, wouldn't that be a blessing? Or it starts to
flip the other way where people are coming back sooner
than you think and contributing that would be nice. Look
at all those names you just named and how many
of them have impacted this team one way or the
other during their playoff in World Series runs over the
last three, four or five years.

Speaker 6 (35:40):
Just off that, I would say right now that basically
everybody that's on this list not named pedro Leone would
contribute to that so about seven.

Speaker 1 (35:49):
Or eight guys, how is Pete Leone doing these days?

Speaker 6 (35:52):
He right now returned from a rehab last Tuesday due
to sorenis and his left knee. He's going through running,
hitting and throwing progression. And I'm guessing that's probably out
in Florida again.

Speaker 1 (36:03):
Five years ago, six year he was like five years
ago he was a waiting for this guy. Yeah, oh yeah,
he was the guy. Yeah, man, wait to shortstop centerfield,
to play out for the play shortstop? All right, dynamic,
you know, anxious to see how that's going to play out.

Speaker 6 (36:16):
Hopefully we finally get to realize that sometime, but for
right now, we still have to remain patient. Patients finally
ran out for this group when it came to this guy,
we'll talk about him next.

Speaker 1 (36:28):
Right here.

Speaker 6 (36:29):
It is the Shawn Salisbury Show, Sports Talk seven ninety
Why You're back.

Speaker 1 (36:34):
This is the Sean Salisbury Show.

Speaker 8 (36:36):
Get back at it.

Speaker 6 (36:39):
And as is usually the case, especially in places like Boston,
it never just ends with that being the conclusion. Now
you first know, all right, what led to this getting
to this point and those stories starting to come out.
June Lee, a guy that has been a long time reporter,
and now doing work with Yahoo coming out with a

(37:01):
story yesterday that kind of at least gives an impression
that there is distrust between the coaching staff and Craig
Breslo and the front office there in Boston, and one
of them is talking about how the coaching staff has
grown frustrated with the state of player development, specifically how
emphasis is placed on swing mechanics and hitting data other

(37:23):
than often at the expense of fundamentals, and talking about
players like Christian Campbell who's had a string of routine
errors and in Roman Anthony of course, who booted a
ball out and right field during his debut. The following day,
coaches had him out on the field going through outfield
drills in front of everyone, almost as people perceived it

(37:44):
to be a direct fu to the front office, says no,
this is how you get better at this, and we're
going to show you that this is how you get
better at this.

Speaker 1 (37:52):
I have a problem with that. That's what it should
be doing. Get to work and listen, man, I can
tell you this to say talent, all, that's fine, but
even talents when the mechanics break down, talent, you'll learn
that your talent is well great, it's flawed. You have
to work on those basic things. Why do you think, guys,

(38:14):
why would Tiger Woods need a swing coach in the
middle of his run when he was at his very
best in the world. Why is Scheffler need one? You
think they got They don't need one. Even then they're
tinker and then doing everything the end. When's the last
time anybody when you when you saw chef, you say
he's just not very talented. No, you know what you say.
His putting mechanics are offers swings, not were one. It's

(38:35):
the mechanics of there's no difference in football or baseball, right,
and the sooner you can do it. And here's the problem.
Even when you're twenty two, thirty two, forty two, you
get locked into And it's also like when you're banged up,
what do you do in your bang. Let's say your
lower back hurts, maybe your posture is not the same,
so all of a sudden you switch something else and

(38:56):
now the hamstring hurt. It's it's the same thing here
with your mechanics. What happens is all right, mechanics are
starting to because in pro sports, here's what they don't do.
I'm just telling you during a season, especially in football,
they're worried about game plans. They're not worried about your mccames.
That's what they want you to work on. That on
your own, lonely work. When you get the season, we
got to focus on game plans wins. Baseball, same thing.
You're not practicing that much because you're always playing. And

(39:19):
on the days you're not playing, what are you doing.
Trying to get some rest, trying to catch up, spend
family time, and if you're on the road, gather your
senses and then and then go do your thing. And
maybe you're getting to the cage. Really, but I'm talking
about really that the practice that goes into it, and
then what happens is that affects something else, and then
you start to grind and the mechanics. When all it
took was a simple adjustment with your golf hands or

(39:40):
with your putting stroke, or with your the bat or
fielding ground balls, and you just nip in the But
the longer you allow it the fester, the longer that
bad part of the mechanics stays, and then it's harder
to get rid of. Even if you're thirty or twenty.
It doesn't matter. That's why when you teach kids mechanics
at twelve, it's better why they don't have bad habits,
and bad mechanics lead the bad habits lead to bad mechanics,

(40:02):
which in turn lead to your game not being as
consistent and so development all that's good. Part of the
development is in players, even the great ones, need mechanical help. Woods, Scheffler, Brady.
They made sure they didn't break down under duress, get
to work, and if the front office doesn't like it,
then you know, you have to mean sometimes you got

(40:22):
to be willing to stand firm in a respectful way
and say we need these work done. Because during the season, dude,
I'm telling you pro sports, they're not working on mechanics
very often. They're sure as hell not coaching them very often.
We I mean a perfect example. Even it's not like
the Astros are immune from this. Dusty Baker, I think
he's in an upcoming book where he talked about going
against the Astros wishes in twenty twenty two, they went

(40:43):
out and got Christian Vasquez and it was no, Maldy's
my catcher, Like you know, I understand that we went
and got this guy and we went and got Trey Mancini,
but no, you lose my first basement. Maldi is my catcher.
What you want to do until other right, you went
and got him. I'm still as long as you employ
me as a manager here. She's playing most of the time.
Whether's frustrated out, but I get it. I get it.

Speaker 6 (41:04):
It reminds me of the Jim Leland. You could say
what you want, but you know what, I'm the GD
manager around here.

Speaker 1 (41:09):
It's exactly right, is it that? The bond situation? So yeah,
when he's smoking a grit out there and she cussing
him out at spring trading, yeah, love it. We don't
have much stuff these days. Messing with me, I'm not
messing with you. Yeah, that was fun to watch. We
could use more of that plus sports. He probably could,
He probably could.

Speaker 6 (41:25):
And Jim Leland, you know Steve sneaking off into the
tunnel right there to fire off at Joe.

Speaker 1 (41:31):
And the way he does it, so he hides it
with he hides it in a palm with his thumb
and forefinger like, yeah, it's that. Yeah, those are the days.

Speaker 6 (41:39):
Supposedly that was the old Vietnam way. Is that you
know you want to hide the smoke, right, you know, to.

Speaker 1 (41:44):
Be able to do that so he could smoke without
somebody catching with the smoking and do your location.

Speaker 6 (41:48):
I remembered once watching I can't remember phild Sunday Night
Baseball when ESPN used to Wednesday Night Baseball. It was
when I was a little kid. It was Jim Fragosi,
of course, who was the manager of the Phillies. And
I don't think that the cameras meant to pick this up,
but you can see he kind of ducks back into.

Speaker 1 (42:02):
The tunnel lights one up. Oh yeah, right there. I'm like,
oh wow, I don't even at like eight years old,
I'm like, I don't think you're supposed to show that. No,
but they a bunch of them were doing smoking. Those
grits man in all sports but baseball all that time,
popping down there and grabbing yourself, U pall them all.

Speaker 6 (42:20):
Yeah, it's a it's a stressful sport, what can we say?
And the Red Sox definitely dealing with the stress right now.
The Astro is dealing with different stress, especially with the
guy that we've talked about this morning. We'll talk about
it right here to start hour number two. The Shawn
Salisbury Show Sports Talk seven ninety at.

Speaker 9 (42:37):
Houston AD tw Houston an iHeart radio station.

Speaker 1 (42:43):
And the Rocket.

Speaker 9 (42:45):
Sports Talk seven ninety your home for your home teams
from the Parsons that match it, next studios house it. Okay,
let's do this.

Speaker 1 (43:02):
Sean Salisbury.

Speaker 2 (43:06):
To usc Troupes, longtime friend Shawn Salisbury.

Speaker 3 (43:08):
Dan Matthews, ecuseesus, this is the Sean Salisbury Show.

Speaker 6 (43:17):
Have a two run walk off homer hit off them
in the ninth inning and it came off the bat
of Nick Kurtz. For the A's out there in Sacramento,
they lose three to one. Lance McCullers junior on the
aisle with a right foot spring and NBA Finals Thunder
beat the Pacers in Game five.

Speaker 1 (43:35):
They take a three to two lead in this series.

Speaker 6 (43:38):
Seven one three, two, one two five, seven ninety is
the number to get in and Sean, as I mentioned
one of the themes of the show today today's word
of the day frustration and talked about it twofold earlier
Lance mcculler's junior and also two yet again, you could
call it a crusade, but I would just call it
as it's just a matter of fact. The Astros yet

(44:00):
again not coming through for this team.

Speaker 1 (44:03):
Last night.

Speaker 6 (44:04):
You get eight hits, three of them are for extra bases.
That's all fine and good. It's just the being able
to capitalize put guys on base and be able to
bring them home because then you get a lead off
single and an inning and then oh there's a double play,
or you get Jake Myers again leading off the inning
and then a base running blunder by him gets him

(44:24):
doubled off at first base. But back to mccolors, where
it's a thing where I think that you're frustrated in
two different ways. You're frustrated because it's another injury from him, yep.
But then the other one is you're frustrated for him
because it's the same deal that I just mentioned. But
it's the personal side where it's he probably, it's not

(44:46):
he probably. I know that he gets the news of
what it is and he's just like, oh, come on, man,
you got to be kidding me, Like, sure, I do
all that work to come back, and this is what
this is what does me in So I get it
from both sides, but it it is also to the
fairness in all of this where it sounds harsh. I mean,
people have a right to react the way that they
do to getting this news because your reputation is what

(45:09):
precedes you. And in this case, for Lance mccullors Junior,
it seems like no matter what, this type of feet
will find him.

Speaker 1 (45:16):
Yeah, that's how it hit me. And I like him.
I think he's a good I seeing him start to
make this move to come back and have some really
good outings and just the grind. Anybody that's rehabbed an
injury understands the grind to get back to it. It's hard,

(45:38):
and baseball's hard, pitching's hard, staying healthy is hard. I
get it. I get it all. It's okay to be
frustrated as well, because it's when it happens so often
you almost say, well, when's it going to happen again?
Fortunately it's not the arm. Unfortunately it's an injury, Like

(45:58):
what are you kidding me? Because it still slows the
process down, whether it's lower half uppers, slows the process
down because you misstarts and he needs work and they
need to lengthen him out and he's got to get work. Yeah,
I'm sure he's frustrated. I would imagine nobody's more frustrated
than him, the guy who's dealing with the injury. But yes,
when I first heard, I said, you've got to be
kidding me. Should I be shocked? How long is it

(46:20):
going to be? And will this be the last time
this year that this happens. Whether that's fair or not, regardless,
that's gonna be the general reaction. We can start getting
callers calling about mcclors you or go to social media.
You'll see you're rooting for him. But there's just that
that that part of it's bothersome because you wonder if
this is just like e or and in Uh Winnie

(46:43):
the Pooh, it's just always that that dark lags just
always follows him around. Right? Is it going to be
this and then a finger and then then a hamstring?
And then I hope not? But I do understand the
plight of the fan that any of us would say, again,
what now? And then when you find out to what
now you got? You've got to be kidding me. I'd
have been more prepared if you just sent me his
arm with He told me his arm was tired, and

(47:05):
it's just it's like, you gotta be kidding, But have
you noticed there are players in sports that stuff like
this happens to all the time that that that it
just seems for whatever reason, and then you start to
world own the train harder. They not doing it right
or they're not being responsible. I think, yeah, of course
they are. It's their career, you'd think. And it's not
like it's just went got fat and out of shape

(47:27):
and is in danger of just eating himself out of
the league. It's not that with him. But it's weird
how that magnet of injuries or being hurt follows him around.
And this the frustration of this is that it you
feel like this didn't have to happen.

Speaker 6 (47:46):
Does that make sense, Well, it's you feel like it
doesn't have to happen. But it's it's also to where
the comparison that comes to mind for me right now
is football coaches. You know, the ones that you know
they have all the cutes he sayings, they have all
the things that are nice to put on T shirts
and they put on the wall to motivate everybody. But

(48:06):
then you lose a game and they try to hit
you with right and they try to hit you with
all that raw, raw stuff, and you're like you're kind
of covering for something, where with Lance, I mean, I
think that's another thing that people go to with him
is the bury me and the age and all of
the other things, like it's just like that's all fine
and good dude, pitch and win games like that's that's

(48:26):
gonna be what endears you to us. It's not the
other stuff. I'm just using that as an example. You're right,
I see it all the time from people when it
comes to him.

Speaker 1 (48:34):
Yeah, there's no question, and he's a lightning rod for
the good and the opposition. He just is. And quite frankly,
I understand who doesn't get it. I get it from
the fans point of view because I have the same
feelings and is you know, seeing it. I'm frustrated for him,

(48:55):
feel bad for him, and you say, okay, what what
of these could and could not have been presented? Because
even in this off season when it takes long, I've
questioned as that everybody else, why is this taking so
long to rehab? Is he not rehabbing properly? What's what's
the deal here? And then you realize that does people
rehab and recover quickly or or differently? They just didn't
they're not the same. But then when this happened, you think, well,

(49:17):
what now is this from? This is it? You do
start to chase a ghost and in this case, unfortunately
it's not a ghost. It's real. But just and then
then the next one, what do you think that a
lot of people will be thinking about, Okay, when he
comes back or when he gets back, what do you
think they're thinking when's it happen again? Right? And whether
it's unfortunate, true or fair or not, it's it's real,

(49:41):
it's realistic. And I understand why the fans do, because
I woke up with the same feeling that I'm sure
plenty of fans are not in a negative way like
what a bummer, this sucks. They need him, but also
for him coming back, and it was where and what? Yeah,
then then they hit me like, oh here we go again.
No shock, be right, bury me in h all that's fine,
and they'll bury you in the h one's time. Then

(50:03):
the process of doing it the way you're healthy pitching,
that's usually the way it works.

Speaker 6 (50:08):
And you know you talked about it being a lower
body injury, and I mean I talked about you stay
in a video one of my head and homes is
that it's not an arm, it's not the elbow, it's
not the shoulder anything like that.

Speaker 1 (50:19):
That's all fine, good, you come back quicker now. But
here's the bat of it though, Is that what does
he push off with his right foot? Dude? Yeah, yeah,
I'm just telling you yes, and the torque it takes.
But not only if you're pushing off on your right
foot and you obviously your landing legs your opposite leg,
but you still got to finish and pounce off it,

(50:39):
you know, you just do to cover first base, which
may and just and to balance up if the balls
hit your way, all those things. It's not I mean,
it may be minor compared to what he has, and
we don't know how minor, but if he's at a
couple of weeks, it's not minor because it also sets
back the work he's been doing on the rest of
the stuff. So it's a cumulative effect, which is a problem.

Speaker 6 (50:58):
Because you just built him back to being able to
go full strength and being able to reach one hundred pitches,
all of those things.

Speaker 1 (51:04):
If you would have said to me yesterday, and I
know this may not be fair, and I'm rooting my
ass off for him. If you said, Sean, guess who
got hurt today and it wasn't. And guess who got
hurt today? And it's probably not in a position that
you'd think it was. You know my answer, you wouldn't.
When you mentioned the word hurt, I would have came
up with one name. Well, you'd figure too. If if

(51:26):
you're bringing it up like that, then it's like, Okay,
it's a rhetorical question, yea, because you know, you know
you know the answer, and I do too, right, And
so it's frustrating feel bad for him, But the question
now is what do you do to prevent anything from
happening again? And when is he coming back? We got
we got the why, or at least as much of
it as we can, or not the why, but how

(51:47):
it happened, at least as far as we know. But
it's just of all the things now, it's his better
news than him coming back and saying, hey, man, he
towards U c l A or U c l U
c l A his U c l or that he's
got discomfort there don't need to hear that, right. It's
like it's the code words that get us now and
discomforts the biggest one when it comes to ucl and

(52:09):
discomfort means surgeries right around the corner, right, seeing about
at least a month, right, But what happens to now, Dan?
And I'm just saying, if you're not on top of
this push off leg right lower half, what happens if
you don't push off the way you want Mechanics change
a little bit where the arm angle is. And and

(52:30):
I know baseball players, so from different arm angles, I
get it. But your normal arm slot right, and so
that changes lower hat. There can be a cumulative effects,
so you have to guard against it because they're all connected. Listen,
if you're not using your lower half as a quarterback
or as a hitter, you're you're in trouble every now
and then you got to stay one off with hands

(52:51):
or a golfer where you can't get a good stance,
and it's an all arms swing. Same thing here, but
man in his position, they are directly connected. Even though
they're vertically and far apart on the body, they're still
directly connected. So it can have an effect that affects
other parts if you're not careful. Question is how long?
But yes, bummer that had happened to him. I'm not

(53:12):
shocked it was him. That makes sense now, I.

Speaker 6 (53:15):
Mean because I think most of the people in our
audience it's seven one three, two, one two five, seven ninety,
feel the exact same way, and hopefully it doesn't lead
to any of those other possible issues that might be
down the pike for him. All Right, I'll switch it
up a little bit, because you never want to embarrass
your kids, but when you do things like this, well
then there really is no other possible outcome.

Speaker 1 (53:35):
We'll talk about it here.

Speaker 6 (53:36):
It is a Sean Salisbury Show, Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (53:40):
There's a lot happening and he's got a lot to
say about it. Sean Salisbury continues on seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (53:52):
All right, Sean, what are you hearing out there? Now?

Speaker 3 (53:55):
This Salsbury's takeout, Salsburif takeout on the.

Speaker 6 (54:00):
Sean Salisbury Show, and it's on Tuesday here on Sports
Talk seven ninety. Astros get walked off in the ninth
last night, a Nick Kurtz two run Homer does him
in three to one to the A's Lance mccullors junior
on the il yet again with a right foot sprain.
But good news Joey Chestnut, going to take part in

(54:21):
this year's Nathan's Hot Dog eating contest, says he wants
to eat eighty of them this year. Sean Chestnut joe
Chesnutt does interviewed him once. Nice guy, I have two
same thing interview. He is a nice guy in person too,
And you're thinking, how's this guy eat all this food?
But he's trained his self, you know, he's made a

(54:41):
great living out of eating dogs. Dude, we did it
was a wing place. We'll leave it at that.

Speaker 1 (54:47):
But we did a promotion with him once where you
could go and and it was a national chain, so
I think you probably know which one it was, but
where you could try to challenge him to an eating contest,
and clearly it didn't work out. Well, yeah, you're not
gonna you're not doing on that. It doesn't matter what
the food is, you're not beating him. But I've interviewed
him on the you know, on the radio as well too,

(55:07):
and just how he practices and prepares and it's a
gears up for it. He's just a machine and he's
just built different. He's just he's a I mean, it's gross,
it's incredibly distressed, but it's still a fun watch. He's
still a grawl. I don't feel like Jennifer Coolidge in
uh Legally Blonde makes me want a hot dog real bad. No,

(55:31):
what it does It makes you say I'm never eating
a hot dog. I was gonna say, yeah, I love
hot dogs. Oh I love yeah that. While it's fine
a couple of them at the game last weeks, eventually
you're looking at any scene. Oh yeah, anybody that's had
an eating contest of any type, that's joked around with
buddies or done it knows it's all fun and games
until it's over.

Speaker 6 (55:50):
Well, I mean, I'm sure even people who were sitting
there when John Candy and the Great Outdoors was eating
the old ninety six er, you're like, you know, steak
usually sounds good all the time, but watching that guy
eat steak, I don't think I want it for a minute,
which is not really for me. It's like a couple
of days and then I'm like, all right, ribbuy some.

Speaker 1 (56:05):
Good that starts breathing a little heavier as you get built.
It's just a bad sound chewing. It's just a bad
look now. But yeah, while I admire chestnuts, grind and grit.
Yeah it's gross, Okay, but God bless him because he's
put a lot of money in the bank eating dog
or doing it. I wonder if he could go And

(56:27):
I know he's eating, he's dabbled in other things, but
I wonder if he woke up to once that I
can eat more pizza than anybody on the planet in
ten minutes. Could probably I would imagine he probably could.

Speaker 10 (56:37):
Right.

Speaker 1 (56:37):
Yeah, it's one of those that you're just like, he's
Pete Rose. He's all start like five positions, right, so
he can pull that off. Sure, I just know that's
like acid reflux all that waiting to happen. Especially, I
mean maybe there's no acid dogs, but that heartburn has
got to be freaking brutal for days after. There's a
lot of things happening with the plumbing there that I mean,

(56:59):
it's breakfast, so we won't do that. No, I don't
believe he when I interviewed, I didn't think he was there.

Speaker 6 (57:06):
I don't think so. Yeah, I mean we didn't talk much,
you know about that.

Speaker 1 (57:12):
Yeah. I was gonna say so about the hot dogs
when you said the plumbing, And I just hope they
don't ever come out whole you know what I'm saying,
you know, like a piece of corn does. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
that's so na. Yeah I tried. I tried to steer
us to the right, but then we just banked the
left right there. Yeah, well it's gross. Yeah, but I

(57:33):
do love his grot And I'd like the fact that
you like think about this, You're like, we're pubblic we're teasing. Hey,
by the way, Joey Chess, that's back, like Jordan just
came back for the flu, right, but he's the goat.
That's it. No, there's got to be a goat and everything, right, chestnuts.
The goat got the guy up there dressed his uncle Sam.
You moderating it all. Oh yeah. It's a hard watch though, Yeah.
I mean at first you're like, okay, going, but about

(57:55):
eight minutes in, dude, you're like, he's on number seventy
you know, you know, like they'll they'll flip the numbers
on the sign right there if it goes the other way.
Do you have to like the toe? Yeah, you have
like you know, oh is that seventy eight?

Speaker 7 (58:07):
Now?

Speaker 1 (58:07):
Is that seventy? Sid? Right? Do they have a rule
that if you do you have to hold it off
like throwing up. I would think, like, like least on
camera for so many seconds or minutes after you've done,
and then you can go because I would imagine first timers,
they get a little stress and anxiety they're competing. I
would imagine once they realized that he just doubled down
on you and he did eighty and you did forty,

(58:28):
and you just can't believe it. Did I imagine heading
to the restroom and like where it's like up to
your throat, you know, I've said that, Oh, one sip
of water and you're finished. It's the worst feeling. Yeah.
I eight two of them, and I feel like I
ate eighty. It's have times, you know, back when you're kids,
I ate five six hot dogs. Now I want you

(58:50):
to add seventy to that, right, and do it in
ten twelve minutes? Was it ten minutes? Twelve minutes? What
are we at now? I think it's ten minutes. Yeah,
I think it's ten. Dude's seventy five hot dogs in
a week would make you sick for two weeks. It
makes you never want to said he wants to pump
out eighty in ten minutes. It's uh, it's quite a

(59:10):
watch the dip in the water and ste slides down. No, man, no,
And then you know that'd be one of those where
your buddy walks to the room. Hey, we're gonna fire
up the grill. What are we making? Dogs? I'm good. No,
let's make the switch to brats at least the Italian sausage. Yeah. Hey,
we still got those burgers. Oh, Joey, come on, idiot,
we got some more hot dogs. Let's let's everybody wants

(59:32):
to put a hog in their mouth? What? Yeah, eighty
of them? How does he go up and explain it?
What do you do for a living?

Speaker 2 (59:40):
Eh?

Speaker 1 (59:41):
Put a hog in my mouth? It's really it's pork.
It's a hog, right, I.

Speaker 6 (59:45):
Mean the previous incarnation of this show, I mean we
we went through. You know what cigars are called. I'd
never once heard the man who used to sit in
this chair, I'd never once heard him refer to what
he referred to them as holes.

Speaker 1 (59:59):
Yeah, have you ever heard anybody call that? I think
he was putting you on. I think he was putting
me on, because I know, if I've told, nobody in
the world calls it that. If you're a if you're
a Stokes, right, every burn one burn one, yeah, whatever
you want to call it. Give me a give me
a you know, the stick is what usually people call it.

(01:00:19):
Or just give me a good cigar, break out the box.
Oh hey that looks nice. Hey, anybody want a pole? Yeah,
I'm good to smoke a poll the first everybody's head like, no,
I don't want to smoke any pole, dude, that's for
somebody else. That's not for me. But no monte Cristo,
yeah yeah, yeah, yeah exactly, or yeah, yea, I want
to smoke you want to, right, that's what you'd call

(01:00:40):
you'll even call it the brand before, you'll call it, right,
a pole And so I know he's joking, but nobody
for the for the show. But go up to a
cigar smoker, say, man, you want to smoke a pole?
I mean a guy who's a regular smokes like five
ad and they'll look at you like what would you
just ask me what? Yeah, hey, I got a stick,

(01:01:02):
you know whatever? But yeah, no, you don't want to
those yes, stay away with those hot dogs. Well you're
living hey man, some hogs? Yeah, what are you gonna
do with them? I eat them?

Speaker 2 (01:01:13):
Well?

Speaker 1 (01:01:13):
Good? Well, I mean they are hogs. That's what I'm saying.
There's no there's there's no lie. There no lie. Its
parts of the hog. Yeah, but it's still a hog.
But I want to put eighty hogs in my mouth.
I think we're gonna skip the dogs today. I think
we're gonna go with the pork shoulder. How long will
it take you to eat eighty hot dogs? How many? No? No?
How many peeks? Think about? OKB, So let's say a year? Well, okay,

(01:01:38):
let's say you started having five a day today, you
ate five hot dogs? Wouldn't by Friday you be hate
hot dogs?

Speaker 6 (01:01:44):
Oh yeah, I'd probably make it like two or three
days and be like, you know what, even the sight
of mustard and relish now.

Speaker 1 (01:01:51):
Want to make you dry heave? Yeah. And for a
guy who loves good old dog at the ballparker and
Home grilling on July fourth, right, I like, I love
a good sandwich. But if I haven't seen which you know,
two or three days sandwich five days in a row,
I'm up. I'll see you in about three years from me? Right? Yeah?
The point? Yeah? Well, and hot dogs would fall under
that in that you know that when it filled up

(01:02:13):
to you. Now, good on him, though, good on him
that he's made a living doing it, because I couldn't.
I could. There's certain things I think I can eat
every day, you know, like I could eat a breakfast
burrito of some type every day, maybe not the same,
the same meat on it. I could eat pizza every
other day. I feel like I could. But even then,
after two days of pizza, you're like, I'm not eating
pizza because there's variety too. With the breakfast brito.

Speaker 6 (01:02:35):
You want to go sausage, maybe even just go straight
up potato and egg, but bacon in there.

Speaker 1 (01:02:42):
When you're eating that many chicken hot dog pork, you know,
if you've got chicken dogs or a pork, the regular
hot dogs, a full all beef hot dog, I mean,
it just keep going. It's like, how many different ways
can you design a hot dog?

Speaker 3 (01:02:52):
Now?

Speaker 1 (01:02:52):
Italian sausage, you ain't eating fifty of those, you know why,
because you your throat will be burning. You ain't finishing those.
I can make some good Italian sauce, yeah, freaking love
Italian sauce. Yeah, I'd exc like to give it a go.
But after about three of those, you'd say, that's okay.
I've had my fix for six months, and you do
the boiled beer brots right there, then throw them on
the grill. If you're not putting your rots and beer

(01:03:15):
and letting them sit in there for a while, you're
probably not doing brots.

Speaker 6 (01:03:19):
You you are not, You're not for sure, but uh
yeah it h It probably really makes you makes you
want a hot dog really bad. And and not only that,
I mean Samuel L. Jackson said it best and swat
when he went and interviewed a guy to join his
team and the guy got a soy dog and he
sits in the car with Colin Farrells they're about to
drive off, and he goes, how can I trust a

(01:03:39):
man who won't even eat a good old fashioned American
hot dog?

Speaker 1 (01:03:42):
But if you eat a soy dog, yeah, you're not
welcome in my kitchen. Now, I'm a bit facetious, but
what would even spark somebody? Don't want to do that?

Speaker 6 (01:03:49):
It's also too like the beyond everything, Like I'm just like, why, man, why.

Speaker 1 (01:03:54):
If it's like you don't go get four Big Max
and a diet coke. Get the coke. Okay, you're already there,
you're hot. July fourth, eatough freakin' hot dog. And if
you're like one of those what I'm allergic to, then
then don't come with the soy. Then to stay away
from that type of food, go get something else. Yeah,
if you're going in go in dive deep right, why
wouldn't you?

Speaker 6 (01:04:15):
For sure, Let's get into a little bit of Texans next,
because while things are good right now, hasn't always been
the case. And there's a reminder of that. We'll talk
about it here. It is the Sean Salisbury Show, Sports
Talk seven to ninety.

Speaker 1 (01:04:27):
Country Boys Roofing. You need help with those navigation of
those insurance claims. They'll do it. No job too big
or too small anywhere in Houston. All those things, Country
Boys will be there for you. Also, be aware scams
right now storm season, not only the scam of gouging

(01:04:47):
being false and taking your money asking for it and
upfront and then boom disappearing. And Country Boys Roofing wants
you just to be aware, regardless of who you decide,
to make sure you're doing your due diligence. You don't
need to get ripped off, especially at a time when
storms are gonna hit. You're going to need your roof
fixed or your roof needs fixed now, and somebody are
gonna try to Oki Dookia. Not Country Boys Roofing. It's
a Country with the K Boys with a Z one

(01:05:08):

a military first responder or educator, and if you're not,
a thousand dollars discount on the full roof. When you
mentioned my name, all that is because well, Country Boy's
Roofing cares. They're transparent, they are family owned, they are

That's who John is loyal, trusted and also warning you
about scams that may go on and if you want

at the right price, with the right discount without gouging
you Country with the K Boys with the Z Country
Boys Roofing Dives.

Speaker 6 (01:06:00):
The seven o'clock hour, seven ninety listener line is presented
by one eight hundred car Cash. A little bit of
time before the season starts to get going. And while
things look good right now for the Texans, that has
not always been the case. I mean for the most
part during their entering twenty three years of existence, it's
been probably more bad than it's been good. And it

(01:06:22):
was bad in recent times too, So just to remind
people of how bad it was, there is a guy
on Instagram named Underscore Mick Jason, and he took us
through let's just say, some of the missteps that the
Texans had in recent years when it came to roster decisions.

Speaker 11 (01:06:41):
Get excited, man, you're going to be a Houston Texan. Okay,
talk soon? Well, fellas, we officially got you. Daveon Clowney,
Him and Water are going to be the scariest defensive
line for the next decade. No way Aaron Donald or
Khalil Mack turn out better than him. Bill O'Brien, welcome
Brock Osweiler. We were so impressed with the seven total
career starts you have in the NFL that we are

(01:07:03):
going to offer you a very fitting seventy two million
dollars ajbw Yate, you are so good and after a
Pro Bowl caliber season like the one you just had,
we are going to let you walk and join a
division rival so that we get to play you twice
a year and better our team. Jarvis sixtends at Cunningham
and Whitney merciless before cutting them.

Speaker 1 (01:07:22):
Don't worry.

Speaker 5 (01:07:23):
Not only did we give up a bunch of picks.

Speaker 11 (01:07:25):
For Laramie Tunsel, but we also we also didn't really
negotiate a contract before we traded for him, so he's
got a lot of leverage. Jarvis, give Randall Cobb twenty
seven million dollars at the end of his career. Tell
me what would you rather have a top three wide
receiver in the NFL or David Johnson on a massively
bloated contract.

Speaker 8 (01:07:44):
Probably be Houp.

Speaker 1 (01:07:46):
That is not what I thought you were going to say.

Speaker 11 (01:07:48):
Jarvis, pay Eric Murray like he's a starter. Just make
Bill the GM.

Speaker 1 (01:07:54):
He can only last pretty clever, Rye. It really is
like you just machine gunning them off like that. Like
I was just like, oh man, it just kind of
reminds you of just how bad things go wrong. No,
he's not. Things are changing now, but he's not wrong.
Oh god, that's funny.

Speaker 6 (01:08:10):
It just seriously was every single turn with this team
at a certain point where you're just like, they did
what And my favorite part of going back to, you know,
the fake conversation he had about, Hey, you know we're
gonna trade away one of the best receivers in the
NFL for David Johnson. Is that something you'd be interested in? Well, now,
I'd much rather have the better receiver. Not what I thought.

(01:08:32):
I remember Bill O'Brien sitting up there, Oh, just let
it all play out. No, I'm not gonna let it
all play out, Bill, you made a dumb decision.

Speaker 1 (01:08:38):
Yeah, they let it all play out. And it didn't work,
not even close. It didn't work. That was simply personality, dude,
nothing else. Didn't like the way he went about his business,
and so they got rid of him. And it was
a power you know, the power part of it and
the rest of it. And it was a mistake. You
don't trade, you don't get rid of a top At
that point time with top five receivers top six stops

(01:09:01):
in that category. For a guy that wasn't gonna help
your team, who who did help them for a long
period of time, the people that were just mentioned in
that trade. Oh thank you. That's why I was wondering
if it was two sides. It takes me a well,
it takes us all because you said there, think, well,

(01:09:22):
did I miss something? No, you didn't. They got rid
of a guy who's the hell of a player, and
and at that point in time was around the prime
of his career, or at least at the end, but
still had game. And still you know what I'm saying,
still had game, so meaning meaning Hopkins. So yeah, they've
there's a lot of Now a year from now, after
three years with Jamaico in this group, I'd like to

(01:09:44):
redo that and see when Nick Cassero's here and how
they've done, how it's turned. It may not be a
super Bowl, and probably more than likely probably won't in
the next year, right, but I'd like to see that.
Now come back and say, now, look how what the
organization has done to turn things around. Oh yeah, have
you ever heard of this guy? We brought him over
from Boom and he's a player. Oh have you ever boom?
We drafted this guy, and this this quarterback? Oh you

(01:10:06):
got him, and go through it and think about all
the hits. Now they're close, man, that they are close,
and it's it's hard to win. It's hard to win
a championship. It's hard to do the things you want
to do. But I can tell you this that I
think overall is a full team. Forget the records they've
had in the past. One I'm talking about is a

(01:10:27):
full team offense, defense, coached, stat the way they're going
about their business. Now, we're still curious about the offensive
line and the new offensive coordinator. Sure, I think there
is close to be that. This is the most complete roster,
just on paper for me, that I've seen since I've
been here.

Speaker 6 (01:10:42):
We're on the biggest puzzle piece is something that I mean,
you thought you had it with Deshaun Watson, but now
you really truly believe you have this one.

Speaker 1 (01:10:49):
This one's truer than he is, sure, and a better thrower.
He just is. He's a better thrower. There was a
time when Watson was probably a top five or six
player in the league at his position, but it didn't
last long because what happened. Now it's it's completely different.
You almost forget about his forty eight hundred yard season.

Speaker 6 (01:11:04):
Well, and there was also a time too that the
Texans wouldn't have moved on from Deshaun Watson even with
you know, everything that.

Speaker 1 (01:11:10):
They had no intention to do. They gave him the
big money that went to O'Brien's last year here, right,
They gave him the big money and he turned around
they didn't want to be but he never even got
to get to that contract by the time Cleveland ripped
it up and said, oh, we'll give you too undred
thirty million guaranteed you don't even need to worry about
the new contract that was going to kick in with
the following year, right, And then all the other stuff happened.
So this is the most complete roster on paper that

(01:11:31):
they have well had and you almost were able to
convince the Falcons to do it, and they wanted to
do it. I remember that. I remember being on air
that tame there and he wanted them to do it right.

Speaker 6 (01:11:41):
And then you know, Cleveland finally said, oh, you guys
think you' dysfunctional, wait until you see us.

Speaker 1 (01:11:46):
And did you see how quickly in that and Listen,
I'm one of those guys that's fortunate that in my career,
but I've been able to go in different cities. I
love Cleveland Browns fans, not only it played there, great fans,
but that's a that's a good sports town and they
aren't about their teams. I feel bad for him because
it's so like and then the guy that got rid
of it really is good to work Baker Bayfield. He's working. Yeah,

(01:12:07):
you know what I'm saying over right that all that
they've been through is that it's it's hard. It's hard
to win, even when you go get a guy like Watson,
but to pay him all that money and take him
off your hands, and now this team, that's a good
sports town that you root for. But Watson didn't want
to go there two hundred and thirty million reasons. And
then remember how I said, oh man, I've always wanted

(01:12:27):
to didn't he kind of intimate the intimate that he
wanted to go and play there after he got it
that it wasn't just the money. Of course, I don't
want to know it never is. Yeah, that wasn't on
your Bengo card they gave you to on thirty million
reason and the fans. Yes, great fans, but that was
not Had Atlanta come within five million, you would have
gone to Atlanta.

Speaker 6 (01:12:47):
Oh I love Sheboygan Wisconsin. You gave me two hundred
and forty three million dollars.

Speaker 1 (01:12:50):
Damn right you do. Don't hate on Sheboygan, Well, I
don't hate Shaboyn. That's that corner. Wisconsin's got one of
the best golf facilities in so Close, Wisconsin is where
the Polka king of this from. You know, not to
mention that everybody's you know, sitting in the back of
a truck right there and everybody would get carbon monoxide.

(01:13:11):
But that's another story for another day. We need at
least they got missus Mcallist and we need him back.
Oh of course we need we need John Candy back.
Great movie though. Oh so yeah. It's the thing that this,
to me is the most complete team that they've had
since I've been here. It just is now. Complete team
on paper doesn't mean a hill beans on Siday. The

(01:13:32):
one thing that's missing is who's what guy on the
offensive line is going to be your bell cow and
that it permeates through all of them and they become
a dominant.

Speaker 6 (01:13:40):
Group there's tangible belief, and I understand that some people
might look at that as potential, which some Texans fans
look at and say, we've been hearing potential for years. Man,
we heard it all throughout production that Andre Johnson and
Arian Foster and JJ Watt ears like, we know what
that's like. It's yeah, it's hey, get to the AFC
Championship game. Hey, get to the super Bowl, bring home

(01:14:01):
the super Bowl. And a lot of that now is
available to you because you've got a competent coach, which
probably since Gary Kog a very solid front office. I mean,
we talked about the Shawn Watson that changed the fortune
of your franchise.

Speaker 1 (01:14:14):
You don't make that deal. Your franchise isn't in this
position right now. Now Here's why the Texans are fortunate.
You had Watson. You thought you had a top five,
top ten for sure, top five player in the league
disposition for fifteen years, you thought you were going to
get that, and then that went south for a lot
of reasons. Do you go back and you get to
grab the next guy and he turns out to be
I'm talking about in Stroud, Did you get to be

(01:14:37):
that guy they've been fortunate that well. Although the Watson
thing didn't work out, you cannot deny that he was
a talented player. This guy that they got is even
a better football player and a better thrower of the
football and appears to be guy's rally around him. I
think a little bit more. I like the leadership qualities
that he has. So to me, be lucky, I mean

(01:14:58):
that doesn't have it. You don't get Montana and Young,
you don't get Farvan Rodgers all the time, or h
Manning in luck. There's three of them, and you're like, well, Sewan,
it seems like get them a lot of time, but
right there, that doesn't happen. And then this now, I'm
not putting them in their category. They got to do
it a lot longer, meaning a guy like C. J. Stroud.
But it's hard to replace the guy that you thought

(01:15:18):
was gonna be the franchise guy and was talented enough,
and then go out and get lucky on the next
guy who's actually better. You've got to be awful fortunate
to do that. Plus, usually when you get a good
quarterback in about three or four years, you're back to
winning again, right instead of losing again, which all those
franchises were fortunate, and then you look at this team,
they were fortunate. Now even though they were winning and competitive,

(01:15:38):
they still were able to pull off Stroud and Anderson
and a bunch of other stuff. I got nothing but
love for him. This is the most this is the
most complete roster I've seen them have since I've been here.

Speaker 6 (01:15:48):
Well, it's funny what happens to when you get a
youth pastor with ulterior motives out of the building.

Speaker 1 (01:15:52):
Allegedly. Yeah, he just cared about the kids, man, of course. Yeah,
everybody always does. That's one of the thingsful. Well, I mean,
it's you know, I'm a good person. Well, let me
determine that. You don't need to tell me that, right exactly?
Telling yourself that or do you actually believe it? Yeah,
those are two different things. I just want you to
know that, that's exactly what. If you're you probably don't

(01:16:14):
need to tell them you're good. If you're good, right
and go. It's like they don't need to tell me
you're a great player. We'll do all the talking for you.
Just keep going. We're doing great work here. That's always
my favorite, especially in this business. Oh yeah, oh, the
great work we're doing who says you're doing great? Work
me right, right exactly. Let everybody else decide what push
them into a court. I'm saying that, right, just do work. Right,

(01:16:38):
there you go. I'm with you now.

Speaker 6 (01:16:40):
So things are much better this time around with the Texans,
and that is a good thing. Trust given, trust earned.
When it comes to this astro, we'll talk about him
right here. It is Sewn Salisbury Show, Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (01:16:52):
This is the Sean Salisbury Show.

Speaker 1 (01:16:57):
That's beautiful. But I like giving him the formal And
if you're a formal, I like giving you the non formal. Right,
So if you're Billy, I would like Bill Wagger got in, like,
who would ever call Bill Idle? Bill Idle? Right, Billy Idol. Right,
But that's a good point. Were you ever Danny?

Speaker 6 (01:17:17):
I think I dabbled in it now it's not I
think I know I'm not going to soft sell people.
I did because I thought it was cool for a time,
but I quickly learned to leave childish ways.

Speaker 1 (01:17:28):
In the past. When were you done with Danny? Probably
at like twenty two twenty two. Yeah, And when when
the first time the mistakes were made started calling? Of course? Yeah,
they started I mean, you can't really do anything by
day Sean Shawnee. You got people who've called me Shawnie
and the Papa Sean. Now Richard, you can because I'm
Richard shawn right, and you can imagine what my friends

(01:17:50):
did with that and still do so. Yeah, Danny, I
guess there's a point in time. But then there's some
that the youth full part of the name, the immature
part of that when you're a kid, still you can't
change it. And maybe that's the entertainment part of it,
Like are we really ever gonna call Billy Idol bill Idle?

(01:18:11):
Do you think anybody of his buddies calls him Bill?
I think they probably do, right, maybe even William. I mean,
you know, the bridge can be proper. Now, let's not
go too Yeah, that's the really full formal side of it,
William bill Idle, Hey, what's up? Bill? I mean that
kind of is. I like it, But I wonder if
he ever gets went. I'm sixty, I'm not.

Speaker 6 (01:18:30):
Bill, see, Like you know, it can work in reverse
order here, like like when does a William become a Bill?
Or when does a Jimmy become a James?

Speaker 1 (01:18:39):
But it goes from Billy to Bill to William right
or or Charles to Chuck. Yeah, yeah, Chasmo and Mike
I like to call him chasm Yeah, Charles to Chuck, Charlie,
Charlie Barkley, No, that doesn't sound right now, Ladies and
gentlemen here at Comic Con this year, we are pleased
to walk him up. Charles Norris exactly. So what do
you say though, I mean, Chuck Norris. That just sounds

(01:19:02):
like that's a tough guy, right, So yeah, there's no doubt,
There is no doubt, Charlie Norris, Is that what he said?

Speaker 6 (01:19:10):
Yeah, Charlie Norris. Charles Norris even too. You know you
want Ascott with a nice, super nice.

Speaker 1 (01:19:17):
Right when you said it, Charlie, do Charles Norris? You know,
I wasn't even thinking of.

Speaker 6 (01:19:20):
I feel like, Charles Norris is gonna, you know, sell
me on the next big real estate you know thing
that's out there, and I wasn't.

Speaker 1 (01:19:28):
Maybe it's a multi level marketing scheme, right, I wasn't
even when you said, Charles Charles Norris, I wasn't even
thinking of chas Chuck Norris. Hey, where please welk him
in this year? Vincent Vaughn, no Vinty, Vaughan, Vincent. I
don't know where it starts and ends. Maybe it's to
the person themselves that decides. Okay, you're not calling me

(01:19:49):
Danny anymore. It's Dan and or do you just get
comfortabs like you call me what you want? You know?
So I don't know, man, I don't know. Emmanuel. Have
you been called manny? Oh? Do if your mom and
dad call you what Emmanuel? See, they's the formal part
of it. Does your mother ever call you manny?

Speaker 8 (01:20:07):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (01:20:07):
Okay? Do they what do they use more? Now at
this stage? Manny? Or Emmanuel?

Speaker 8 (01:20:12):
Still my first name?

Speaker 1 (01:20:14):
Okay? Manuel? Okay, so well there'd be Did they when
you were growing up? Did they call you Emmanuel as well?
Or manny? Manny?

Speaker 2 (01:20:20):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (01:20:20):
They did? So you you you got to taste that
it was. You were a kid and a cute kid,
they call you manny. Then you grow up, get college degree,
now you're a manually back to Manuel. Okay, there you go,
Manny Ramirez, Yeah, there you go. There you go, Manny
act Elmore, Yeah, there you go. Good name, Emmanuel, Yeah,
I like it. So I'm just curious when we Yeah,
you make a good point when is the cutoff? I

(01:20:43):
guess I don't know if it exists in everybody. I'm
not sure, but I think it's out there. But there's
certain guys I just can't Billy Idol can't be Bill Idoleka,
you know, I like what you call him that.

Speaker 6 (01:20:53):
I feel like you lose the rockstar luster if you
get introduced on stage is Bill idle Ye like maybe
like the acoustics sets Bill Idle.

Speaker 1 (01:21:02):
Or as the bandmates Bill you know something? If you've
know him for that Bill, Yeah, maybe you call him
Bill right.

Speaker 6 (01:21:08):
That's you never want to get it wrong though, because
if you do, then you get the correction from people
like John Parker Wilson. Apparently if you just called him
John that he would quickly remind you it's John Parker.

Speaker 1 (01:21:20):
Oh, so he wants the all three name. He wants
all three, which usually does not work out well for
people like the former wide receiver at Texas back in
the day, and people listen this will know it might
same school, same time I was, We're same class Todd
Dodge right and his wide receiver at Texas I believe,
and they might have been high school teammates as well.

(01:21:41):
Bill Boy Bryant. I want does he go by Bill
Bryant now or is he Bill boy? Well?

Speaker 6 (01:21:45):
I mean even to localize it here, bo Levi, Mitchell,
there you go, quarterback, there you go.

Speaker 1 (01:21:50):
So yeah, So I just wonder, I wonder you you
mentioned John Parker. Are you allowed to call him just
do J? P. Wilson or is it you can't just
call him John? You gotta came John part.

Speaker 6 (01:22:00):
And I feel like I feel like with bo Levi,
like you're short changing yourself with two cool names like that.

Speaker 1 (01:22:06):
Oh yeah, you don't just go buy ball? Yeah yeah,
b l and Levi is a cool name too, Yes,
be cool. Agreed, point home, I like it.

Speaker 6 (01:22:14):
Yeah, welcome up to the stage this year, Lucas Wilson.

Speaker 1 (01:22:19):
There you go. That's right. What is this a golfer? Exactly?
It's the Godfather man, trust some respect. I love it.

Speaker 6 (01:22:27):
So just a little bit of lessons when it comes
to Chernobyl, right, yeah, somebody, that was one thing that
I did want to get to and maybe we can
carry this over.

Speaker 1 (01:22:37):
It's good.

Speaker 6 (01:22:37):
Yeah, somebody somebody wants to name their child Chernobyl. Hope,
don't do this to your kids. That's that's a selfish
move by the parents. I don't care if it's a
family name. There's only one thing that comes to mind
when you think of Chernobyl, and it ain't good. Ah,
don't name your kid that. Yeah, three mile, three mile Island, Harris.
There's there's plenty to work on here. Our number three,

(01:22:58):
Sean Salisbury showing up KBM.

Speaker 9 (01:23:02):
Houston, ADHD two Houston, my heart radio station, the Astros,
the Rockets, Rockets, your home for your home teams.

Speaker 1 (01:23:12):
This is Sports Talk seven.

Speaker 9 (01:23:14):
Ninety from the Parsons that Matchine Next Studios.

Speaker 1 (01:23:21):
Sabby Houston. Okay, let's do this. Sean Salisbury.

Speaker 2 (01:23:31):
To USC Troupe's longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.

Speaker 3 (01:23:34):
Dan Matthews. Jesus, this is the Sean Salisbury Show.

Speaker 1 (01:23:43):
Now.

Speaker 6 (01:23:43):
I know that some people are gonna, you know, say, Clinton, Hey,
Dan's trying to steal your bit feebly feebly he he
does it well mine more or less has you know.
I'm trying to think of like what comedian I kind
of mix in there, like the best. Gillis is so
good at it. Oh, Shane, you'll look up Gillis Trump.
It's I see that. Yeah, I mean, he's like the

(01:24:06):
bell cow for Trump.

Speaker 1 (01:24:08):
Last year for the field goal kicking exactly know what
when h McAfee ted him up for what what would
Trump say? Here? What a loser? There you go, Chris
Gordian And I can't. I wouldn't even attempt to do it.
But when you it's funny, you might want to get
out of tran. He put Chris Gordy for your listening pleasure.

Speaker 6 (01:24:32):
He's got some and it's almost too because, like you know,
Gillis I'm a big fan of and uh, he's part
of this group called Protect Your Protect Our Parks Air
and Mark Norman, a couple of other comics, and uh,
they were talking about on Rogan of there's some things
that like they'll have deep fakes of what Trump says.
But then you're just like, I can totally believe that

(01:24:53):
he would say that, So I'm gonna believe that this
is real.

Speaker 1 (01:24:56):
Oh yeah, and you probably you probably could believe, right
because you're just like good way, Chris Gordy, how would
you say it again?

Speaker 6 (01:25:04):
Chris Gordy going to join us at nine o'clock is
going to be it's going to be great, it's going
to be phenomenal.

Speaker 1 (01:25:11):
It's going it's going to be huge. Oh the greatest?
What is what he said? The great make America? We're
going hesitation? Whats radio great? Again? The program director? What's
Doc seven ninety? It's not great, it's not great. I
just still like but the way the hesitation, it's okay.

(01:25:34):
I like it. So I don't care. Man, anytime you
I like laughing.

Speaker 6 (01:25:38):
You're you're talking to a guy that We used to
do a bit called awful impersonations. And I would be
handed a name and I would try to impersonate the
person that it would be up to the caller to
guess who the person was that I was trying to impersonate.

Speaker 1 (01:25:51):
And sometimes it went well, well, sometimes it fell flat.
Hey should I give you a name? You on trying person? Sure?
Why not? How about? Uh? Can you give me de Niro? Well,
I mean, are we talking like you know? Cause no, no, no, no,

(01:26:13):
no no no. He insulted him a little bit. He
insulted him. I didn't insult him. I didn't insult now.
He insulted him a little bit. You know, have a drink,
have a drink, drink. Drinks are on the house. Although
that was that was Leota with that. Hey, hey, let's
let's have a few drinks. Huh, let's have a who's
your favorite one to do? Favorite one to do? Man?

(01:26:35):
That's I mean Gruden is up there. That's right. I've
heard you, dooden you do. I'll tell you what man.

Speaker 6 (01:26:40):
Yeah, you know Spider too, Why Banana might be my
favorite play that you you.

Speaker 1 (01:26:45):
All know about.

Speaker 6 (01:26:46):
But I gotta tell you know three verts that's that's
that's one that really rips my engine.

Speaker 1 (01:26:52):
Man. Yeah, you got, you got good man.

Speaker 6 (01:26:54):
I love the unboxings. The unboxings are so great because
he plays it up. He got a box from like
Holy Cross Football the other day and it's.

Speaker 1 (01:27:04):
He did pine for it. Now, look at he can't
get enough of it. He's gonna is he gonna have
clothes he's not gonna wear for be tags on until
he's nine hundred. He showed a room the other day
where he's got boxes upon boxes and it's just the
box of the day that he'll come carrying into the room.
Florida State football Derek Brooks. He's a great Bobby Bowden. Yeah,

(01:27:26):
you know, he's like he's like cutting into the box
and you know, taking out hats and shirts and it's
like it's like his own he can start his own
frigging Remember remember Mike Whatter back that I won a
Super Bowl with Brad Johnson. He used to spin it
for the knowles. Yeah, Florida State or that's exactly right.
So you got you got Gruden down. But that box thing,
he's onto something.

Speaker 6 (01:27:45):
He's having fun, he's having fun, he's loving life. I
don't think there's any doubt about that, no doubt, you know.
It's It's definitely good to see coach back in the fold.
But what was not good to see was the Astros
loosen last night three to one to the A's in Sacramento.
It's mccullu's junior, another not good on the io with
a footsprain. In the NBA Finals, the Thunder beat the

(01:28:06):
Pacers in Game five, take a three two lead in
that series. We'll get back into the Astros conversation here
in just a second, But uh, you mean you were
talking about it and wanted to be able to try
to get to this a little bit earlier. There's a
Reddit user out there that alleges that they got a
baby shower invitation to celebrate the birth of a little

(01:28:27):
girl who was going to be known as Chernobyl. Hope,
I can't believe that's real.

Speaker 1 (01:28:35):
I hope not no pun intended with a hope not Man,
you're having a son, what are you gonna name him?
Valdes Harris? Yeah no, come on man, yeah wis Yeah,
don't do it like like like Johnny No, no, straight
up john No. I don't know, Johnathan. What would make
you wake up and say, I guess I'd have to

(01:28:55):
look at the origin at Chernobyl and what it's about you.
I'm not talking about Chernobyl Chernobyl, right, I'm talking about
if it's a family, if somewhere, somehow that name, it's
a level of petty, the right that you would hope
that a parent would not happen. Right rears up its
head and says, you know what, we had a family
who had a family member, a family member who had
that name. Don't do that to your kid. What's your
what's your son's name? Deepwater Horizon Johnson? What what? Yeah?

(01:29:20):
Imagine them playing baseball? Don't don't do it. You gotta
you gotta go by d h that of course it
would work. But yeah, I just don't I don't understand
the why you would do that to your kid. Now,
what's your son's name? John Wayne? Yeah? What? Right? Now,
you go through your whole life, and then then you
when you find it, when you finally figure out who

(01:29:42):
John Wayne Gacy is, is it you're four, You're like,
why do my parents do this to me?

Speaker 12 (01:29:47):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (01:29:48):
Right? You know that when they name and your kid
after a fruit and all that stuff's one thing. But Chernobyl,
come on, now, son, I mean, there's a lot of
dumb names out there. I mean, everybody has it. I'm
not judging if it's a family name an old school name,
but if Chernobyl was a family name along the way,
stop the madness. Doesn't mean you have to do it
every time. Chernobyl? What Chernobyl hair, Chernobyl Hope, Chernobyl Hope? Like,

(01:30:12):
why not just go with the middle name, you know,
and and kick out the beginning part right there. Yeah,
we don't need Chernobyl for a kid's name, right or
a kid three Mile Island. Yeah, that's t M I
is what we is what we call them. Yeah, and
there's if you name your kid Chernobyl, that is t
M I.

Speaker 6 (01:30:32):
I mean, and it's it's also too you're not the
one that has to wear it. They do, right, Like
when you name your kids these things, like you.

Speaker 1 (01:30:40):
Know the roll call in the fourth grade. Well, here's
the deal.

Speaker 6 (01:30:44):
You get to middle school, it gets worse because if
people don't know this by now, middle school is the
proving ground for who's a sweet kid and who's a turn.

Speaker 1 (01:30:51):
There's no doubt, and there's plenty of both. But the problem.
The thing is with history. Right now, not a kid
in that class would know who Even a two year
old you say Chernobyl, they don't have any idea what
it means. Well, but they will eventually as they get older.
But a ten or twelve year old parents do.

Speaker 6 (01:31:08):
I was gonna say, that's that's what happens because then,
like you know, you're going through a yearbook or something
like that. Let me see the class picture. Somebody in
your class really named Chernobyl Hope. Yeah, well what does
that mean?

Speaker 1 (01:31:19):
That's how you find it.

Speaker 6 (01:31:20):
Let's let's do a history lesson that. Clearly you've not
learned yet in school.

Speaker 1 (01:31:24):
That's right, it'd be amazing, But I'll guarantee you nobody
would snap their head around in the in the eighth
grade because they wouldn't know. Then I have to Chernobyl.
That's your friend. Now you bring over to swim in
the summertime, and the parents are like, they'll name their
kid Chernobyl. Oh, it's your family friend, Because then you
start to judge the parents. Well who else would you judge? Yeah,
you're the one's giving them the name. It's it's it's pitiful,

(01:31:45):
and it's selfish and it's weak. It's also just making
a mockery or your child.

Speaker 6 (01:31:49):
Well, I mean it can go the other way too,
of like really formal sounding names. Like usually if I
hear a girl's name is Palmer or something like that,
I'm like, oh.

Speaker 1 (01:31:59):
No, as a name, yeah, now now it just formal,
like the yes, like they belong with the mansions in uh.

Speaker 6 (01:32:08):
Yeah, and especially the part that I live in. Like
there's somebody I know and one of their daughter's names
is Palmer, and I'm just like, what if they're listening
right now, I mean they might be. Have you ever
told them you don't like the name podcast? I just
did it right. Well, they're not getting invited over for
Eddie hot dogs. Now, that's fine, we'll talk through it.
We'll be free.

Speaker 1 (01:32:26):
You Palmer, A little formal for you, Yeah, yeah, like
it just just stick with and uh what was it?

Speaker 2 (01:32:35):
Uh?

Speaker 6 (01:32:35):
You mentioned the last week comedian Got Carlin George Carlin
of talking about Tanners, Tyler's you know some.

Speaker 1 (01:32:42):
Of these names. He's like, whatever happened to Eddie? Basic
white guy names? Yeah, I mean what we came up
with some names on here. This was like a year ago.
We were doing it, just the basic ye and you
know what the kid looks like, right, the seventh grade
has the basic white guy name.

Speaker 6 (01:32:58):
James is a fine name, James. James is great, Jason,
you can be even shortened Jay.

Speaker 1 (01:33:05):
And we were crying because our callers, they we listeners,
they were calling it. And one after when they were
pumping out the basic white dude's name, the kid, you know,
the white just you know the kids, just a basic
white kid and the names, I was freaking no doubt, Brady,
no doubt. Like it's funny too, because like Brady Singer,

(01:33:25):
I'm like, he looks like he'd be named Brady and
he also looks like, yeah, good name. But you know
that it's that that's just a basic white kid name, right.
You hit Tanner. Tanner's at the top of the list.
Tyler Taylor that's a that's a girl name. Though a
lot of times I would think that probably it does fit.
But I mean you will run into dudes who are
named Taylor. Yeah, seeing more women and what's your middle name? Joseph?

(01:33:50):
Why don't you go with that one? Yeah?

Speaker 6 (01:33:52):
Why why don't you stick with that one? There you go,
Joe Joey, There you go. You know that's that's the
other thing is too is? I mean, you know, can
a grown man be known Joey's entire life? Like, if
Joey Tribuani were real, could we continue to call him
or would he finally reach a certain point where he's reached,
you know, soap opera fandom and uh, you know, a
famous status that he could just be known as. I

(01:34:13):
now go by joe Tribani if you want to rebrand yourself.
But I think, like what we were talking about, was
it Joey joe.

Speaker 1 (01:34:20):
The yeah John? Yeah, he goes by his middle name, right, mum,
and it's Joey and he have you ever anybody call
him Joe?

Speaker 6 (01:34:27):
I don't think anybody's gonna call him marine anything other
than what they want to be called. I was gonna say,
there you go. If somebody goes to the simplify cry.
I think it's like, hey, hey, hey, call you what
call you whatever you want, like the guy with califlower ear.

Speaker 1 (01:34:40):
Yeah, dude, he wants you call him whatever you want.

Speaker 6 (01:34:42):
Guy, there's two guys you don't ever mess with, the
silent guy and the guy with cauliflower ear. Like those
Oklahoma football players found that out. The guy they're messing
with in the bathroom, and people were quickly like, dude,
he's got califlower ear. That means he knows how to
go to the ground and fight. He's not going to
go well for.

Speaker 1 (01:35:00):
You if you're feeling ambitious and bigger than the guy,
and or you think you got him because you're a
jock and he has cauliflowerer, I would suggest one thing,
shake his hand, turn around and leave and say, uh, misunderstanding,
I'm out in this one. Yeah, it ain't gonna end Well.
I was gonna say next, ye're gonna have college. If
you've got two guys fighting they've got cauliflower ears, you're
in for a grab a lunch pail. Oh it's and

(01:35:20):
then they're they're tougheste hundred year old leather dude. Good luck,
stay stay out of that one, no doubt. He man,
I think I need to break this up. No you don't, Yeah,
stay away, Yeah you'll end up having Why don't you
let them just figure it out? All right, We're we're
just fine, no doubt, Biscuits. See you're right there.

Speaker 6 (01:35:36):
Get you involved if you want to join in seOne
three two one two five seven ninety. And that's seven
one three two one two five seven ninety. The circle
of trust has been reached with this one astro. We'll
discuss it is Sean Salisbury show Sports SOX seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (01:35:51):
Putting the logic in illogical. Former pro Sean Salisbury continues
to break it down once seven ninety.

Speaker 6 (01:36:00):
Biscuit wants to weigh in this morning, Good morning, Biscuity.

Speaker 12 (01:36:04):
Top of the morning, My brothers, before I get that,
before I get the NBA Championship, man in the main game.
And I don't know if it's prevalent in the UH
other communities, but an African American community. Man, that's that junior.
So you know you you have a DJ because he's
Bobby Junior, or or a J Adrian Junior or or

(01:36:26):
c J. Because he's a you know, call to juke
you know, you get a lot of that.

Speaker 1 (01:36:31):
You get a lot of that, and then you you'll
either call him junior or you use the the initials
like the acronym right, absolutely, no doubt, no.

Speaker 12 (01:36:39):
Doubt, that's what we use. And then the other one,
Shine is Judas. I had a minister say a long
time ago. Man, you don't hear too many Judis.

Speaker 1 (01:36:46):
Is sign No, you shouldn't.

Speaker 12 (01:36:48):
Don't been ruined that name been ruined.

Speaker 1 (01:36:50):
That so you don't there there is, there is, there
is a list of band names. And I'm sure that
that one's probably Yeah, I probably stayed away from that one.
That when it gets biblical, I'm out right.

Speaker 6 (01:37:00):
I'll just say it's probably at that point where it's
just like, you know, you had the option to give
him up for adoption.

Speaker 1 (01:37:05):
You probably should have done it. Yeah, no, mister this
and so and so, you have a lovely young son.
What do you want to name? I don't know? Judas?
There you go, Yeah, that's a little change up, hitch right,
you think twice about that one. I've got no choice
in life, hey man.

Speaker 12 (01:37:20):
On the final, Shine, this has been entertaining finals, you know,
and uh but uh, Coach carlisle Man man, I I
just feel for him, shout because he did it. He
put it all the right. He was substitute, and you
could tell. I called my cousin early and I said,
he's playing the long game. Man. He trying to wear
him down and have him ready in the fourth court.

(01:37:43):
And it was right way wanted to had him cut
at the tune they was fresh, and then they gave
it away and it's like wow, man, and I don't
I don't know. I know he's kicking hisself, but he
should have put my coonnor back in the game, man,
and left Halliburton on the b.

Speaker 1 (01:38:00):
Yeah, I know that was right, Biscuit. That's such a
great point. I was just going to say that because
you know, I know that Halliburton and Haliburt had a
rough night, you know, which is not like how four
free throws was. It didn't get it going, then went out,
was banged up a little bit, came back in, tried
to play through it. But that's that loyalty trust thing, right, Biscuit.
I got my star. I want to put him back in.

(01:38:20):
Maybe this is the time he gets hot. I want
to sit him down, and maybe you know I need
to sit him down. But you're playing the wrong guy,
but because he's your star and you want to keep
him engaged, and we still got games to go and
hope he gets hot. I get it. I love Rick Carlo.
I think he's underrated, Biscuit. I do. And they down nineteen,
and the one thing Indianapolis has done, or Indiana should

(01:38:42):
I say, has done, they've been able to close out,
you know, make the comeback and then close him out.
And last night, you know the response by Oklahoma City
with their three when it got within a couple, it
was incredible. Williams played out of his mind, and of
course Gilgess Alexander always just seems to do his thing,
not gonna win many when Halliburton doesn't have a field goal. Well,

(01:39:03):
you're right, Biscuit. It's been a hell of a series
and entertaining, and we may be in for a seven
game or because Indiana headed back home for Game six.
It's been it's been fun to watch. Rick Carlisle's a
hell of a basketball coach.

Speaker 6 (01:39:13):
Oh, I think that it's also too I mean, this
series should have been a lot shorter just from the
talent disparity. You know, Oklahoma City is a far better
team than Indiana is Indiana. Just I think by sheer
will and just right shots at the right.

Speaker 1 (01:39:29):
To grind and stuff that's better seeds than them. There's
no doubt.

Speaker 6 (01:39:33):
It's also, you know, a possibility with Haliburton. Maybe he's
just tired. Maybe, And I understand that, you know, for
people like you know, we railed on last year Anthony Richardson, Hey,
why'd you pull yourself out of the play. It's tired.
You never see it in the moment. But that's gonna
be one of those that I think it's gonna be
all right now. I know that there's a different grind
to this thing that I just wasn't prepared for this

(01:39:54):
time it happened to Jordan.

Speaker 1 (01:39:55):
Yeah, I can guarantee a Biscuit will agree with this too.
Ain't no way Halliburton's only or four next game. There's
no way you would think as long as he's healthy. Right,
But they defended him, well, he just had a rough
go of it. But Biscuits, right, I'm with Biscuit one
hundred percent. It's been it's unfortunately serious that some were
gonna miss, but it's been entertaining.

Speaker 6 (01:40:13):
What do we hear from the local team about Jalen Green,
where you know, his performances kind of fell off. It
was well, but also look at how Golden State's defending him.

Speaker 1 (01:40:21):
Yeah, I mean sometimes that happens.

Speaker 6 (01:40:22):
Sometimes he just puts together a hell of a plan
for you and and you're not gonna get in the.

Speaker 1 (01:40:27):
Rhythm right and and you know it's it is a
they're getting paid too, and and part of the reason
they've been the best team in the NBA the year. Yeah,
they can score, but they've done They've been complete as
Oklahoma City and they've played their ass off. And Biscuit
also makes another good point about you know, it's hard,
and that's why when I said it's hard to keep
your star on the bench, you know what I'm saying,

(01:40:50):
Or when I say that, or not keep him in
the game when he's struggling, right, and you say, put
him on the bench and bring in somebody else who's
had a hotter hand, because in truth, it would have
been if he was a star, you would have sat
him down in a little banged up grinding it out.
You want to make sure he's healthy the rest of it,
just not his night has a knocked down, a field goal,
hit four free throws, and you would have sat him

(01:41:11):
down normally and and replaced him. If he wasn't a star,
he would have been sitting down. But I understand Carlisle's approached.
I got to continue to engage my guy, and unfortunately
just didn't work out and they got beat after closing
that gap from being nineteen down.

Speaker 6 (01:41:24):
Or it's a delicate balance that you walk because if
you make the wrong decision, it comes across as reactionary.
Whereas for this one, there's a little bit more wiggle
room for him where he says, guys, he's Tyree's Halliburton, right,
look at what he's done all postseason. So yeah, I'm
going to give the guy a chance.

Speaker 1 (01:41:40):
The simple answer is, how can I turn my How
could I turn away from him? Exactly? A guy who's
been nothing but great for this team, and you trust
that he's going to shoot his way out of it,
and unfortunately Haliburton just had a rough goal of it
and those happened. But that can't happen twice if Indiana
is gonna continue this series. Back of the basketball card
when he goes well, and he's been the front of

(01:42:01):
that basketball car has been pretty damn good too. And
Haliburton's a hell of a player. But great job by
Oklahoma City, and great job by Oklahoma City after they
gave up a big lead of being able to knock
down shots. Now that's three games in a row that
Williams has got twenty six or more. And it's not
just Gilgess Alexander you're talking about on the scoring side
of it. Oh, they had a chance to have it.

Speaker 6 (01:42:22):
Oh, here we go again, Like it very much had
a chance to And I thought when it was cut
down the like, what was it down?

Speaker 1 (01:42:28):
The two? Down to t point and then then they
not knocked down a trifecta or knocked down a shot.
J Williams. That's exactly right. And Williams was on fire
hit forty last night, and that's what you're talking now.
He's been creeping towards twenty six. I mean he's been
he's been that Batman Robin thing. But he played like
Batman last night. He was off the charts and he
knocked down another shot. Whenever it got close, he was

(01:42:49):
able to answer, and they brought it to within a
field goal and then he did his thing last night,
but forty, which was big and they needed every damn
one of them. At least I know the score was different.
But to stave them off and his shots came at
the right time, he played out of his mind.

Speaker 6 (01:43:04):
That's what it takes, I mean, And that's what I think.
You know this finals too.

Speaker 1 (01:43:08):
That encourages you at least here is do you look at,
say the Indiana Pacers and say, oh, the Rockets there
there there is a massive gap between them my answers, No,
I mean, you're not a talent gap. But even with
Oklahoma City, you proved it twice this year, right, A
lot of teams didn't beat them twice. You did, that's right,
but they you know, your stars played big and you

(01:43:30):
got to defend still and they did at the right time.
And all three of those you're talking about, the Rockets
as well as Oklahoma City and Carlisle and Indiana well coached.
You know what I'm saying. They get it sometimes the
other there there. That's why I said, Udoka, that's why
the hope that they can be Indiana sooner than later
or Oklahoma City. It's around the court because they are
They're They're gifted here, there's no question about it. And

(01:43:52):
now there's whatever is missing for the next level. I'm
sure Doko find a way to find it out as
well the front office. But uh, I've been entertained by
the series. I have because going into this, I said,
you're missing out on some good town if you're not
watching some of it. I know, if it's not your team,
but if you just tuned into basketball and you saw it,
and I know Biscuits hoping his home state team will
take care of their business in Game six and we'll

(01:44:13):
get a Game seven, I'd be awesome.

Speaker 6 (01:44:14):
Improve that offense, Improve that offense, and I think they're
definitely gonna do every single effort they can this soft season.

Speaker 1 (01:44:21):
To try and do that.

Speaker 6 (01:44:22):
All right, let's get back into diastros conversation because trust
well you throw that word out quite a bit. Maybe
that's the other word of the day here on the show,
we'll talk about it. It is Sean Salisbury Show, Sports Talk
seven to ninety.

Speaker 1 (01:44:34):

it together. How much time do you put into it?

(01:44:55):
Are you doing the same thing for your retirement? Are
you doing the same thing to understand, well, I got
to roll over my one or what's the risk tolerance
as I move forward? When will I have enough money
to retire? How long do I got to start saving it?
What do I got to do? The steps you got

obviously life can be a grind, but it's really simple

Speaker 6 (01:46:24):
Ninety listener line in the eight o'clock hour is presented
by one eight hundred car Cash and we talked about
it last week when it came to Ryan Gusto where
you know, for the longest time you'd had a couple
of starts where Joe Aspota afterwards doesn't go well four
innings four and a third, three and two thirds whatever
it was, where you're starting to put a lot of

(01:46:46):
innings on the bullpen at that point that the questions rightfully,
So to Joe Aspota, hey, you're gonna keep running them
out there, because it seems like that's not really an
option for you. It seems like it's becoming increasingly evident
by the start that you're not gonna be able to
do that. And sure enough Jos Bottus said, yeah, absolutely,
we're gonna do that. And it paid off the last

(01:47:06):
time out six innings, and I think it paid off
in a huge way yesterday where you asked a guy
to bump up a day to make a start, and
he goes out there and gives you five solid.

Speaker 1 (01:47:15):
No doubt and pitched it. Pitched, I thought, considering the circumstances,
pitched well and pitched well enough to win, and so
did the bullpen until a bad pitch, and bad pitches
the hitters will are going to rake and I don't
care if it's the guy who plays in La or
the guy who plays in Sacramento. And it was unfortunate,

(01:47:36):
but I thought, he's there's a reason why when these
managers stick with some of they see something that maybe
we don't see from a start that goes for in
a third right looks to me from his last couple
that Gusto's starting to get a better When I say
gets it, he's got it. But did he starting to
the confidence and command look a little different to me?

Speaker 13 (01:47:57):
Then?

Speaker 1 (01:47:57):
I think he expects himself to be in the rotation now,
which is I think is a good thing now, regardless
of what happens down the road, in full health. But
he's pitching, and don't I always say, make it tough
on them to take you out of the rotation, make
it tough on them not to play you. He's pitching
well enough, and pitched well enough to give his team
a chance yesterday on a day when he wasn't supposed
to start again.

Speaker 6 (01:48:17):
Being reactionary something else that we talked about in the
show today. It's the same deal here with Joe. If
he's shown you nothing else, he's anything but it. I
think that sometimes his patience and his belief in guys
is what frustrates fans quite a bit. But for Gusto,
I mean it's say, hey, look, we've got to define
a role for this guy.

Speaker 1 (01:48:36):
If we're gonna have him in the bullpen.

Speaker 6 (01:48:37):
Then okay, fine, I'd much rather be able to build
a guy to be a bullpen arm as opposed to
having to hey, man, we really need you to give
us five innings today.

Speaker 1 (01:48:46):
You think you can do that? Oh yeah, the previous start,
he said, right, right. So he went five, three hits,
one run, the earned run. He only walked one, but
struck out eight in five innings. And that's the thing,
in less than ninety pitches. So I don't know if
efficient's the right word, but max, he maximizes five innings
and did a nice job. And the bullpen until you

(01:49:07):
got to a bray. You did not give up a
run with three guys in front of a bray you
and unfortunate the pitch and got away and he walked
it off. And who knows what would have happened had
he not hit the two run homer, and how it
would have ended in extra innings. But I thought, Gusto
and is five and so that's eleven innings and two starts,
and it's after Joe had been questioned and he stuck
with him, and he's validating a spot. Is his belief
in him.

Speaker 6 (01:49:27):
First four innings, he was fantastic. He was spotting it
up pretty much wherever wanted to throw it. And then
he gives up that home run sipla day and then
gives up the little Texas leaguer down the right field line.

Speaker 1 (01:49:41):
I mean, he was laboring a little, but he still was.
His stuff was good last night. But he showed growth,
no no doubt. I mean he showed growth where he
comes back. He strikes out Lawrence Butler with runners on
the corners in one out at that point, and then
he gets Jacob Wilson to groundouts al two at second
You're just like, oh man, that's not a guy we'd seen.
I almost was worried after he struck out Butler that

(01:50:02):
we were going to see Joe come out of the dugout.
And it's like, no, no, no, let them finish this.
Let him get through this, because you got to grind
it out sometimes on the mound, and he was the
first and the first four innings didn't look like much
of a grind, not for him because he was so
I mean, it made it look easy, and then you
go through the grind. But there's also that the slippery

(01:50:23):
slope and knowing being to discern between Okay, gives up
a home run, is it time or walks a guy?
Is it time to be able to allow him and
you to make decision to battle through it. I think
it's a big belief system, and I think that he's
validated that he's done a great hell of a job
of being able to toggle between into the bullpen and
starting but for the most part being a starting pitcher

(01:50:46):
and going five last night, but the strikeouts and keeping
people off the base pass was free passes important. You're
gonna give up home runs, and it was a solo
home run, so you usually can live with that, and
then the two run job at the end, and normally
you can live with it when your team will score
more than a run. But I thought Gusto was was.
I think I'd be cheating him if I said solid
the first four and he was really good. And then

(01:51:08):
what was it? Okurt obviously, and then Dubin and King
came in and did what they always do this year,
bingo bango, bongoing, And now you're sitting in the ninth
inning with the chance, and unfortunately they came up on
the short end. But I'll tell you what, he's making
it easy on Joe's spotted to keep now injuries and
the rest have but to keep running him out there

(01:51:29):
and saying, not only are we running them out there,
but we're counting on him.

Speaker 6 (01:51:32):
Well, especially with the injury news, you know yesterday, because
you wanted it to have a six man rotation.

Speaker 1 (01:51:37):
Now all of a sudden you can't. Yeah, because you did.
Where are you going with it? I mean now?

Speaker 6 (01:51:42):
Yeah, because especially with six more games and as many days,
I mean, you're you're not gonna be able to have
the opportunity to slide somebody else back in. At least
that gives you a better chance than how somebody else is.

Speaker 1 (01:51:53):
Right, and that's why your team, that's why you're counting
three four and five are important in this rotation right now,
three four, five and six were depending on how long
the Lance mcclor's foot, toe, ankle, whatever it is on
his lower half keeps him out that the accountability and
the trust that you mentioned is going to have to

(01:52:14):
continue to run deeper, and these guys are are going
to be pushed. But they've answered it, man. They answered
it over the weekend, and Gusto did again yesterday.

Speaker 6 (01:52:21):
Command was strong throwing a two seamer too. I heard
Blummer on the TV side mentioned that last night and
got a new pitch for him. I think it's one
that he's counted on a little bit more. I mean
it might be kind of the US, right, you know
of hey, throw that change up and when you do,
you get good results.

Speaker 1 (01:52:35):
And why aren't you throwing it more?

Speaker 12 (01:52:37):
Right?

Speaker 6 (01:52:37):
That's my guess is that Josh Miller and the and
the pitching staff were like, hey, we like that. That
two seemer you got worked out well for Hunter Brown.

Speaker 1 (01:52:43):
There's no question about it. And maybe you get the
same thing and all of a sudden you discover something
that it's hard to discover when the season's going on
because you're you know, you're grinding over it. And then
it's also to take the guts and say, you know what,
I'm gonna mix this in and how often two or
three times isn't going to be give you enough to
But when you start to gain command of that, and
if the two steamer is something that he elevated, you're right,

(01:53:05):
and it helped Tuner bro well, it's helped Toner Brown
take his game to a completely new level where you're
gonna see him with cy Young votes as this continues,
and if they're gonna go where they want to go,
he's gonna have to continue to do his thing. But
so are the Ryan Gusto's of the world. And over
the weekend we saw what the other guys have been
capable of, especially on the mound. They've been phenomenal this year.

Speaker 6 (01:53:24):
YEA change up also working out well last night for
Gusto and not like the greatest fastball but if it
makes sense, ninety three to ninety four for him, looks
like it's even faster.

Speaker 1 (01:53:34):
Yeah, I'm gonna say if if that's the case and
gets on and you're mixing and change up and changing
speeds like that, I would imagine it feels that ninety
four's is staring at you like it's ninety six ninety seven.
You know that feeling where some people I mean, I'm
not comparing him to Hobvy Air, but that's what's made
him so great. He can throw ninety one ninety two
and that fastball on the upper part of the zone.

(01:53:55):
That's competitive and you're like, how can these guys not
hit this? They all think they can, and you know
what balls If you just reverting back to when we
were literallygue any ball that crosses up around your eyes,
you want to swing at it. Why because you see
it right right, and anything you see you think you
can get to and that but that ability to have
something that's not on ninety nine but feels like it's

(01:54:15):
in the upper nineties for him, and he was consistently
living in that ninety three ninety four ra.

Speaker 6 (01:54:20):
I wonder if that's where the term cheese came from.
I wonder if that's what it is of. Hey, don't
take the cheese, right, you know, don't don't don't offer
at the cheese.

Speaker 1 (01:54:27):
Yeah, where was the origin of the cheese right?

Speaker 6 (01:54:29):
I've got to wonder if that was it, because I mean,
it's like you said, you so badly want to swing
at that, but then you're like, well, I no, that's
a ball, but I don't care.

Speaker 1 (01:54:36):
But you can't lay off it because your eyes are
telling you you can get to it, right it is.
And that's I mean. And these guys that pump it
up like ninety eight ninety nine hundred and live there
to get people out like some closers, I get it
because the truth is it is. I mean, think of
anything any a receiver when the ball's in your eye frame,
body frame. You can see it. You got a better
chance when it raises above your pads and you lose

(01:54:58):
visual or drops below you. You know, you know your
your waistline and stuff. Hitting's no different that thing. That's
why you say, how can you not lay off it?
We can go out right now in the field and
I could throw your pitches up in the zone and
you're gonna because your eyes see it. You think, oh,
of course I can get to that, and then the
late life on a fastball and you realize I shouldn't
have tried to get to that because it was out
of the strike zone.

Speaker 6 (01:55:18):
I can't even imagine facing life pitching right now, especially
if it had any type of v low.

Speaker 1 (01:55:22):
You could throw it eighty and it's gonna look like
one hundred and two. Oh, well, of course it is,
and a hundred's gonna look like oh no, shots, Like,
how did these guys do this? Feed? Oh, there's no
doubt about it. And then they can spot it wherever
they want, like a key. Yeah they can, they can
throw it. Talk about ams small and miss small. Yeah,
pretty impressive. But Gusto had his performance was was winnable
last night? Yeah?

Speaker 6 (01:55:43):
No, it was, and that's the frustrating part of it.
And we can continue that too if you want to
get in seven one three, two, one two five, seven
ninety because it seems like the same show is done
time and time again after games like last night for
the Strows.

Speaker 1 (01:55:55):
We'll talk about it here Sports Talk seven ninety. Hey, guys,
uh Mins Tea Clinic the eleven year anniversary this year.
Love it and in Dallas Fort Worth area. In here
in Houston, five convenient locations, great staff, great great wellness
optimization staff, and they're the best. Feel a little soft,
maybe maybe maybe a little brain brain fog, maybe your

(01:56:18):
sexual performance and wellness in the sheets is not making
you happy or mama, and then the frustration kicks in
and then you're irritable and you see the cycle. Well,
what if I told you can control it by going
in and getting your testosterone checked. And it could be
certain things like we can't control what happen when the
flu comes on, But when you can control something like

(01:56:40):
getting the brain fog gone, getting your sexual wellness and
your full body wellness and wellness optimization optimize it. How
go in draw a little blood, non invasive. By the
end of the day. You're gonna have your results now
if I tell you, the answers to the test are
sitting at Men's Tea Clinic to get you back right
to where you're the weekend warrior, back the parent you

(01:57:00):
want to be. You and mom are happy because man,
he's revitalized in the sheets. And then you got wellness
optimization from Edito and that's what Men's Tea. There's this
maybe misconception that's only sexual wellness, which is important, but
it's full body wellness. Wellness optimization is the phrase I'm
using all year long. It's the one you should commit to,
and if you're not, it'll change. It's changed lives along

(01:57:22):
the way many many times, and it's doing it every day.
I'm grateful for him. You will be too, pop in
and see him get out of lower gear. You don't
have to stay stuck there. Just test, get the testosterone.
Let's get that normalized and get you back to the
way you want it. And I got news for you.
That smile on your face will be real, not fake.
It's Men's T Clinic, Men's T clinic dot com. That's
MEN'ST Clinic dot com.

Speaker 3 (01:57:45):
This Sean Salisbury Show continues to continue.

Speaker 1 (01:57:51):
That, I think so. Yeah, the one who kept hawking.
Oh yeah, you know they kept doing that a little
too much hawk to Uh yeah yeah, just just move
a good movie. John KNDy in the bus station eat,
don't get smoking a cigar? A mix? How's that mix?
So he had a tough time getting the back to

(01:58:11):
the crib. Yeah, yeah, that's why you drive, dude. I
was gonna say, you've got it licked, man, while you's
the best one straight through. You're here ready to go.

Speaker 6 (01:58:21):
Yeah, no, no, TSA like you see it. Terry Bradshaw
went through it the other day. They're giving Bradshaw hard time.
Somebody got it on video of you know ts A.
You know, it's like it's like, come on, guys, you
turn on your TVs. You see this guy. Like I
always love like whenever you see like the cop in
person interactions Like I saw one once with Ricky Williams
and he said he was It was in Tyler and

(01:58:42):
he was there for the Earl Campbell Awards and the
cop was like, oh, the football player.

Speaker 1 (01:58:46):
No, the accountants at the at the city, you know, comptroller, Yes,
the football player. You think that's why I'm here? So
what did Uh so the the Gordy thing, just what
was it? Plane delayed? What happened whether weather it was
a big part of it too. Man, Yeah, you don't
have to mess with T s A. When what would

(01:59:07):
they do to Terry? Would they make what would they
just out of your pockets.

Speaker 6 (01:59:11):
Or yeah, out of your pockets? You know random screenings
saw all those things.

Speaker 1 (01:59:17):
And how Terry handle it? I think he handled it. Yeah,
it seems like anything he'd see make you laugh.

Speaker 6 (01:59:22):
See, And that's the thing in those situations that I
tell people all the time, the angri or you get,
the harder it's going to be on you longer.

Speaker 1 (01:59:29):
It's going to take right like for you get the anger,
sometimes it's it'll piss you off. But then they got
to do a gig AGAs well, Like I'm too full
with the body scan thing. You know how you got
to you know, hold up your arms, touchdown that that
kind of thing is that I'll drop my hands too quickly.
They're like, now you gotta do it again. Or inside
the booth or the yeah, you had a little scanner

(01:59:50):
kind of scans across right there, or you know, you
get into the summer months here and this is going
to be one that if you're eating breakfast right now,
well you know, just one second, h the back's what
so it picks that up, so doesn't really? Yeah? Yeah.

Speaker 6 (02:00:03):
Then they then they got you know, I'm gonna use
the back of my hand. I'm like, well, i'd appreciate
it if you would.

Speaker 1 (02:00:07):
Yeah. Yeah, well yeah, it's rubbing a hand on your back,
and it's exactly what you thought.

Speaker 13 (02:00:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:00:12):
The backsweats never never had been stopped for back sweat.
Yeah yeah, I've gotten it a couple of times. So
I didn't even know they could scan for backsweat. But
I guess that makes sense. I mean, I guess you know.
It's just it's it's something that they know is not
it's not you there you go. Yeah, so you know
that's those things that you have to drive the Wine
country though it's a New Mexico plus there out there. Yeah,

(02:00:36):
is that where he went to New Mexico Wine? Is
that what that part of a country? Yeah? Yeah, so
he went.

Speaker 6 (02:00:42):
Now, so good time for he and the lady. But
Astros lose last night. Three one walk off to run
Homer Lance mccullars junior on the I l with a
foot spring and in baseball terms that cheese. Of course
we know this slang for fastball, but some sources say
that the term originated from the idea that the fastball

(02:01:03):
is the base or foundation of a picture is arsenal, which,
like cheese, is a foundational food item.

Speaker 1 (02:01:09):
I call it a you know, it's like a high
fault the case of that, just nice high fastball, right, cheese.
The cheese has been used forever. Man, what was that one?
The guda? There you go, little sharp cheddar? Was that
the monster some chad? Yeah, a little sharp cheddar? Yeah,
that was a good saying. I think that one was

(02:01:30):
Provolone right there. It's a good man. It goes a
long way. You have a problem, not overly. Provolone doesn't
like spiked taste. You know what I'm saying. It's kind
of understated, subtle. So that's one of those late life fastballs.
Like Christianajavier has got some some provolon on him, Like like,
how how is you need it on your sandwich? Yeah? Yeah,
you're right, you need it on your sandwich? Do you

(02:01:52):
need that provolone on certain sandwiches? But you're like, it's
is it really?

Speaker 2 (02:01:57):
Is it?

Speaker 1 (02:01:57):
Really? That's flavorful? But it is just knows how to
bring it out. And that's yeah, good old cheese man,
It's been. It doesn't matter how old you are. You know,
when somebody says on a baseball diamond cheese, you know
what they're talking about. See, like I used to be
a like a blue cheese bacon burger guy. Not we're
really the crumbled blue cheese. It's just it overwhelms. It overwhelms.

Speaker 6 (02:02:16):
It's loud, right, you know, So I mean that's just
the thing is like, you know, you really get that,
and you're just kind of like even.

Speaker 1 (02:02:22):
If you try to be not put a lot on it,
it can overshadow the burger. In any cheese good, but
you got to like blue cheese, or you're not tasting
much of the burger other than the blue cheese. Just
just stick with cheddar.

Speaker 6 (02:02:35):
Maybe even pepper Jack call it shed though, oh yeah
probably Like the other day I had one, Uh it
had a beer cheese on it.

Speaker 8 (02:02:44):
OK, so that was good.

Speaker 1 (02:02:46):
Its delicious, good dipping sauce anything with it.

Speaker 6 (02:02:52):
I'm all, oh, yeah, yeah, you give me that. Yeah,
it makes a difference. There's no doubt. Who also makes
a difference.

Speaker 1 (02:02:59):
The Gorda tron. Yeah, you push back on a little bit,
but I'm gonna make it. Yeah, keep calling him that.

Speaker 6 (02:03:05):
Yeah, we're gonna make it stick. It will, it will
for sure. He joins us for his weekly visit.

Speaker 2 (02:03:09):
Right here.

Speaker 1 (02:03:10):
It is a Sean Salisbury show, Sports Talk seven ninety.
You don't need a reason to go to j bar
M Barbecue other than you like great food and great
customer service. How many of you have gone over there
on the weekend, sat out there, brought your dog out
and had some little breakfast tacos, or grab some of
those drink or food specials to set out in the
back man, yesterday was a phenomenal day. Or when the

(02:03:31):
sun starts to set and you say, I'm go go
to have me some barbecue and some of the great sides. Ever,
well you got it. You got the Hall of Fame menu.
You can order with Joe Spot orders, you can order
with you know, with Kelvin Sampson or Clyde drex or.
They got all that Hall of Fame menu and the
menu is Hall of Fame ish, great food. Whether I
don't care if it's cheddarsauce, it's a jalapeno, I don't

(02:03:52):
care if it's the sides and the potatoes, al maca cheese.
They got everything you want. So you do not have
to have an event nearby to want to go go
to Jbarm Barbecue. There is no reservations needed into twenty
two oh one Leland. People are coming from far and
wide to go there. It is the best barbecue and
customer service in this state. So if you're traveling somewhere

(02:04:12):
else for barbecue, stop going into Jbarn Barbecue, whether it's
the weekend or during the week and realize, man, it's
not only efficient, the food's off the charts, and if
you're coming from two miles or two hours away, I
would suggest you make Jbarn Barbecue the reason it's jbarn
Barbecue dot com. Jbarn Barbecue dot com. With the food

(02:04:32):
and the customer service, you're not gonna find it any
better anywhere. Jbar m Barbecue dot Com.

Speaker 9 (02:04:40):
KDM Houston, k t V HD two Houston, an iHeart
radio station.

Speaker 3 (02:04:47):
Has a rocket the assist Sports Talk seven ninety your
home for your home teams.

Speaker 9 (02:04:54):
From the Parsons that match it. Next studios. Okay, let's
do this.

Speaker 2 (02:05:07):
Sewan Salisbury USC Troupes longtime friend Shawn Salisbury.

Speaker 3 (02:05:13):
Dan Matthew, excuse this is the Seawan Salisbury Show.

Speaker 6 (02:05:22):
Courtesy a carback brewing it and joining us. Gorge Shawan.
Great to have you back in, buddy.

Speaker 8 (02:05:27):
Yeah, good to be back. I was out in Sean's
neck of the woods.

Speaker 1 (02:05:30):
Yeah, there's time to San Francisco, man. I mean, well
we put it this way. You probably got to see
the best parts of it when you were out there,
and a little wine country visit for you too.

Speaker 8 (02:05:39):
Yeah, yeah, yeah. And flew into Oakland. So it was
kind of interesting because I'd never been there and and
everybody always talked about how crappy the Oakland Ballpark was
and all this, but I didn't realize it's that close
to the airport. Like you can literally just find Oakland,
run over the stadium and see as play and then
get out of question. But the Warriors, the o duc
Co or whatever the hell it was called, Oracle, they

(02:06:02):
they're both still standing there, the ballpark and the and
the Warriors Old Arena, and there's just like there's like concerts,
the ballpark had a cricket tournament going on. I mean,
they're trying to do whatever they can there. But it
is a little depressing it is. It's like the A's
don't play here anymore. They play over in some minor
league ballpark at Sacramento. And even the Warriors are like, nah,

(02:06:22):
we're good, We're gonna go over the across the bay.
And they built their big, beautiful rina next to where
the Giants man.

Speaker 1 (02:06:27):
Now you've got to house whatever you can there. But
ye saying, you take the tram into San Francisco, you
go right by to think, man, and you think about
some of the great basketball and football and baseball there's
been played at all three. There's a ton of history there.

Speaker 10 (02:06:40):
Man.

Speaker 1 (02:06:41):
We were looking at.

Speaker 8 (02:06:42):
Historic concerts at the Oakland Coliseum and it was like,
you know, Rolling Stones, I'm skinnered. I mean, it's crazy.

Speaker 1 (02:06:48):
I'm gonna tell you too. During baseball when they were
their finest, the best music pregame music in the in
any stadium in the country is there. I mean to
you go in there and get their watch batting practice,
and I'll tell you there there their music and they've
been known for it. They used to like for baseball.
It was awesome.

Speaker 8 (02:07:06):
I didn't realize to Oakland and San Francisco are so close.
It's it's closer than going from here to the Woodlands.

Speaker 1 (02:07:13):
Longer to go to the Woodland exactly right then temperature change.
But yeah, man, that place is It was great. Now
we're talking about music when it's during you during a
baseball game. But they had some great memories in both
of those. The ballpark and stadium for the Raiders, I
did and the first thing I did, because I grew

(02:07:35):
up a lifelong Raider fan, that was my first visit
as a player playing there, and I can remember the
first thing I did when I walked in there for
pregame more but walked over to the black Hole and
made friends with those guys on purpose, realizing as a
fan of the black Hole, right now go there and
start talking. Now you guys are bad and then you're
going to play for the opposite team. But I just
I loved the history there and when we played, and

(02:07:55):
it was a baseball diamond, so you're playing on half dirt,
half like we did in San Diego, our home state,
and in on the grass and then you're going there.
But I'm one of those guys that's sitting in the
lock room thing at Reggie Jackson and Joe Rudy and
then Kenny Stabler and George Blanda, and then obviously the
old Golden State Warriors with Rick Barry and I grew.
A lot of great sports have been played there, and
it is sad.

Speaker 8 (02:08:14):
I zipped up to We zipped up to Berkeley and
checked out the campus of cow and I was reading
the history. Apparently they played some preseason games over at
Callous Football Stadium and they were talking about wanting to
move and just play there because they wanted to get
out of the coliseum or whatever. But they said they
had good attendance because a lot of students on campus
from calcame. But all the Raiders fans are like, what
the hell are we tailgate? There's no way in a park.

(02:08:35):
They said traffic was so bad that the city of
Berkeley was like, we can't have NFL.

Speaker 1 (02:08:39):
And it's true, and there is no if you I'm
in there, there is no place to park. Yeah, it's
Strawberry Hill and it's good. I took. I thought I
was dying on the field there. I got hit by
Ron River and I rolled over in bed three months
later and my ribs still hurt. Yeah, oh yeah, and
he is right now. He hit me in a rib cage.
I threw a ball. It was like a deep in
cut and he hit me. And you know when you
hit the breath knocked out of you, you think I'm

(02:09:00):
really I am dying. But this was like the breadth
dock day times for where I couldn't And I literally
laid there on the field looking up waiting for somebody kind.
I think I'm gonna die here. And I'd tell Rod
about it all the time. He just gets a big old
goofy ass to work on his face. This is still
to this day nobody had. I mean, I've been hit hard,
but that one in the rib cage was I literally
that's the only time I felt like I was dying
on a football field. But that place is pretty. It's

(02:09:23):
kind of a cool little place for a college, a
fun place.

Speaker 8 (02:09:27):
We parked a parking garage. We come out of the
parking garage. The roof of the parking garage is their
practice field. Yes, I saw like a goal post. I'm like,
what the hell is that? That's where practice.

Speaker 1 (02:09:36):
They don't have a lot of space.

Speaker 8 (02:09:37):
And it's the same thing at UCLA. Theirs is like
raised and so it's it's just interested living in Texas
where you go to University of Texas, you go to
Texas Tech. I mean sprawling, right, you know, landscape of
all the all the land you could want. But California
it's like New yorklo but they jam everything in there.

Speaker 1 (02:09:53):
Vertical and try to find yourself a place to put
a field up so you could actually practice. Yeah, that's
a fun There's a lot of history in that town.
I hope it gets back to the charming place. Was
you got to go back Gordy in the spring one
time or in summer like you were, but stay long
enough to watch a baseball game at that ballpark.

Speaker 8 (02:10:08):
Yeah. And where we stayed in Napa, I didn't realize
is like an hour from Sacramento. And that's where the
Astros and these were playing. So everything's so close there. Yeah,
it's it's wild. We you know, we think here, oh yeah,
it's just four hours or three hours up to Dallas
whatever like there it's everything's like an hour away.

Speaker 1 (02:10:23):
Right when I was in Pebble, we thought, well, just
stay of you and make the trip up to you know,
to to Napa or what have your. Sacramento. But it's
a it's a beautiful, beautiful area and the weather's Ye,
that's the degrees in the summer time.

Speaker 8 (02:10:35):
There was nothing like getting back to Houston just feeling that.

Speaker 1 (02:10:39):
Humidity forty degrees different. But well, speaking of those astros,
Gusto pitchwell, you have to win. We'll get to that
gut wrenching and that the Lance mc colors. After all
you've been through and then this is the reason. What
a bummer?

Speaker 8 (02:10:57):
Huh Yeah, I just and again they're saying, you know,
they're hoping it's not anything serious and he'll be back soon.
But I just keep asking, like how much more can
they try to overcome? Like and again it was a
great performance from Gusta right, yeah, but again the Bats,
it's been the story this year when you know, when

(02:11:18):
they lose games, typically it's because the offense is not
showing up. So you know, we get the stands in
there tonight, we'll see Jason Alexander get the ball, see
what he can do. But yeah, man, I mean it's
like you keep I keep joking, but like you look
at from Ravelda's and Hunter Brown and go.

Speaker 1 (02:11:35):
God, keep them in bubble wrap, no question.

Speaker 8 (02:11:38):
I mean, do you have to have.

Speaker 1 (02:11:39):
Lock them in a hotel room in their house when
they're here. Let me ask you both a question answer wise.
For you guys, well, would we talk about all the
stuff that we want to fix hitting? What we tell me, Gordy,
how do you fix it? And then you go? Or
what do you want done with the lineup or what
needs fixed in the hitting side? Just stick to hitting?
Give me one fix for both of you. What's your change?

Speaker 6 (02:12:00):
Move Christian Walker down the seven? Okay, I'm done with
him as the middle of the order guy good.

Speaker 8 (02:12:05):
I mean, I've been preaching that for for weeks, and
I don't know if that's gonna easily fix things. I
just think that's gonna give you a better opportunity to
drive some runs. And he's just he's not he's not himself,
and so to keep batting him in that foe hoole,
I think is a disservice because he's constantly coming up
with men on base and unable to come through.

Speaker 1 (02:12:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (02:12:25):
I mean, and that's just it. I mean, we've been
talking about it to the point where you're not gonna
send him down. That's not gonna happen any of those
different things. But I mean it's got to get to
a point where is it a conversation. Is it him
going to Joe and saying, hey, this isn't working. It's
hurting the team, Like, let's let's find another way for
me to be able to help out the team.

Speaker 8 (02:12:46):
And I get this day and age, batting averages and everything,
but to be looking up and down this at this lineup,
I mean it's painting is now that he's the only
person above three hundred. I mean Myers is just a
tick below at a two ninety five, but then you
got to go all the way down to two seventy
four and behind him two fifty three Campsmith, I mean
you got too many two fifty or worst hitters right now.

(02:13:06):
It's just I haven't even looked at it. But if
you go compare this other lineups in baseball, I gotta
think it's in the lower third.

Speaker 1 (02:13:13):
Yeah, And both of you guys answers when you're talking
about Christian Walker, didn't they about changing up Sometimes you
got to change up pitch to get either the player
going or the team going.

Speaker 8 (02:13:22):
Right?

Speaker 1 (02:13:23):
Do you moved paint into the one hole because you
wanted a little different energy? Correct? Right? And look what
it's done? Right? Your movie, YINR. Diaz is not your
normal two hitter. Why'd you put him there? Try to
get him going? I imagine, so although both of them
were moved up, sometimes you got to take a little
kick in a rib cage. Christian Walker's been in baseball
long enough to understand then maybe putting him at the

(02:13:44):
bottom gets him feeling a little less gripping the sawdust
out in a new city where the baseball first base
has been a struggle for three plus years or whatever
it's been, and to take a little pressure off where
you can just set up there, swing the bat, and hell,
get a different run producer in the middle of the lineup.
It doesn't mean you got to stay there. It's not permanent,
but it's worked already for a couple others. Why not

(02:14:04):
see if it goes.

Speaker 8 (02:14:05):
Argument against it is that he's gonna you know, batting
behind some of your better hitters, is there's they can't
pitch around like he's gonna, right. But the counter argument
is when he fails, fails, fails, I'd rather put him
in the seven hole, whether there's less pressure. You know,
he can lead off the second inning or something and
he gets the base. Oh okay, starts filming himself a
little bit better. We see it all the time. Guys

(02:14:26):
smoo down the lineup and start to hit, they get
their confidence back, then sign him.

Speaker 1 (02:14:30):
Well, the guy hitting in the one hole right now,
we've seen that over the last couple years a couple
of you move him up and he was great in
the two hole, you know, and he was having a
good season, but you pop him up to one and
actually put more pressure on him. What's he do deliver
to the tune of you know, hitting three thirty or
whatever it is right now.

Speaker 6 (02:14:46):
Well, and that's the important to note that you didn't
have Yron in the lineup last night. That's one guy.
But like Jake Myers, I mean, looking at a guy
like him. Where on Sunday if somebody posted this the
graphic that Space City Home Network had, the chase rate
is down, the swing and miss is down. You're seeing
a different hitter this year. Like maybe at a certain
point you you reward that.

Speaker 8 (02:15:06):
Yeah, I just look, they were lucky to and I
hate to put it that way, but you were lucky
to sweep the Twins. I mean that the Saturday and
Sunday victories were you know, a prayer.

Speaker 1 (02:15:17):
You got to taste of it last night and returned
to you.

Speaker 8 (02:15:19):
Yeah, and then last night it was the other way.
I mean, fantastic pitching, you just couldn't find that that
one extra hit, and they bitch you could you scored
one run?

Speaker 1 (02:15:27):
Gordia stick around? Yeah, you stick around. You know it's
crazy we were talking about that, Gordia, is that you
allow teams that aren't as good as you to hang around.
It only takes one swing at the bat to cause
a loss if they're hitting like they're supposed to do.
That home run last night and then the bottom of
the ninth, the score seven to four, you know what
I'm saying. For sure normally and then you get a
little leeway and then you can finish it out. So

(02:15:48):
we'll come back and discuss more of it. Dan, There

Speaker 13 (02:16:51):
So emotionally tied to the team.

Speaker 3 (02:16:54):
The Sean Salisbury Show continues, Hi, that's one Sports Talk
seven ninety.

Speaker 8 (02:16:59):
Media notes yesterday. I mean they talked about it run down.
We'll get you guys an update on all these dudes,
Like it's insane.

Speaker 1 (02:17:08):
That works, that works. Look, is there a change in
a little bit. I like it. Let's hope you know
what I want on that list is like one name
that's like a minor it's coming back tomorrow, right, not
a litany of them that are out for a extended
amount of time.

Speaker 8 (02:17:20):
We're getting getting pretty close to being Jeremy Pino, JOSEL.
Tuvey and the Space Cowboys, Right.

Speaker 1 (02:17:26):
That's what it is. It's getting there pretty quickly for sure.

Speaker 6 (02:17:28):
But I mean with Lance, as soon as you see
that news, I mean immediately, I've got to believe the
reaction is all right, what now?

Speaker 1 (02:17:36):
What was your what was your first thought, Gordy?

Speaker 8 (02:17:39):
My initial reaction was, Okay, that sucks, but at least
it's not something more serious and.

Speaker 1 (02:17:44):
It's not the UCL or rotator cuff or something. Right,
It's that's what we said.

Speaker 8 (02:17:49):
But I don't know if it's you know, I would
classify it as a setback or anything like that. Like
I think it's just you know, it's back.

Speaker 1 (02:17:56):
Uh.

Speaker 8 (02:17:56):
Nixon bruises over the course of a season, So I look,
as long long is this isn't prolonged, and he's he's
back sooner rather than later. Look, he was pitching, well,
so I'm okay, with it. It just sucks because this is
it's magnified with no Arrogetty, Reno Blanco done for the season,
Hayden Wiznsky done for the season. It's just I keep

(02:18:17):
it feels like this. The last couple of years, we
keep saying how many more injuries can they keep coming?
And I'm sorry, I have to look at the training
staff and go, are you is this the best one
hundred percent uh staff we could have? And I hate
to go that route, but like, I can't help but
ask that we keep having all these stupid injuries.

Speaker 1 (02:18:36):
And I remember in New York with the Mets when
they kept having injuries, injury to their to their starting
pitching right, and then they started looking I mean, I'm
not saying here, but you remember they started talking about,
well is their training regime? What are they doing in
the off season or their rehab stuff? And it becomes
a question. But when injuries, we start asking all kinds
of questions. Give a letter grade. So far, seventy two

(02:18:57):
games in, we're seventy two correct, seventy two games, and
I want a letter grade for the hitting, just overall,
letter grade for the pitching, letter grade for.

Speaker 8 (02:19:10):
The team, letter grade for the hitting, I give a C.
I mean, it's just not it's it's not like the
Sea I think. I mean, but understand you lost Bregmant
and Tucker, so that was gonna hurt. But with the
new guys in there, I think I think it's see
I mean again, can I there's a bunch of guys
who could be doing better. But Pain's doing better than

(02:19:32):
we thought. Pain Jake Myers is doing better than we thought. Uh,
you know some guys that think carotene has given you
about what you thought. You know, there's some guy's kind
of in the middle there. Walker's obviously been a big
disappointment so far. So probably would go see hitting pitchings
an a. I mean, for what you've gotten out of
the step the guys you have leaned on. When Brandon
Walter continues to make me go, who is this? What

(02:19:53):
is this guy doing?

Speaker 10 (02:19:54):
Uh?

Speaker 8 (02:19:55):
You know, what's this face? Gusto seems to be getting better.
Colton Gordon's been great, Like.

Speaker 1 (02:20:00):
Wait, wit a weekend for those guys too, No.

Speaker 8 (02:20:02):
It's it's fantastic, so I I. And then the bullpen
has been one of the best in baseball all year. Yes,
I know they get ding last night, But like overall
big picture, you to have the best third best record
in the American League right now, it's it's unbelievable. And
I give Joe a spot, a lot of credit. A
lot of people like to ding on him, and oh, well,
you thinking a spot in this decision. I think he

(02:20:22):
has pressed all the right buttons this year so far.

Speaker 1 (02:20:24):
AAC is that is that where you go do AAC er?
What about you? I mean I'm going C minus for
the hitting. I mean I understand for the reasons that
was just letter grades.

Speaker 6 (02:20:35):
I mean, you know, at least I'm taking some liberty
with it. But I mean I understand what you say
about the guys that you lost, but I mean I
can't overlook the guys in the middle. I mean, even
you know jose L two bay, it's hard to see
a guy hitting two seventy four that you say, hmm,
could use a little bit more out of you.

Speaker 8 (02:20:50):
I mean, because he's picked it up. That number A
dipped tremendously there a couple of weeks ago.

Speaker 6 (02:20:55):
But I mean even Yiner, I mean you know where
he starts to kind of show it, but then he'll
have a game where he wears an over. He's doing that,
you know, his butt's going out of the batter's box,
but he's swinging over that slider where it finally gets
to a point where I'm like, if you're a pitcher,
why do you throw this guy anything in the zone?

Speaker 1 (02:21:12):
Yeah? Well, ego and pride getting away sometimes too, But yeah,
it's hard if you're giving away plus and minus is.
Considering the circumstances with injuries and who they were at
the beginning of the season, I can guarantee you that
it wasn't Gusto, it wasn't Gordon, and it wasn't Who'd
I leave off over the weekend? Who'd I just leave
off Alter Walter? Yeah, they weren't on the Bengal card.

(02:21:35):
As we've talked about, you can actually make a case that,
considering the situation and the way they're not hitting and
your best hitter has been hurt, they're pitching a plus
type baseball. Considering everything, you can add a plus to it.
For me, it gets back to and I didn't have
him at forty and thirty two, this at seventy two
games into the season.

Speaker 8 (02:21:55):
Credit the pitching staff here at the big league level,
but credit the pitching staff down in the I mean
they're doing that, Miguel Looa. I mean, this kid's like
the next big thing coming up too. I mean it's
like arm after arm after arm keeps coming up.

Speaker 1 (02:22:09):
Who is who's the pitching coach at the Triple A level?
Do we know?

Speaker 10 (02:22:13):
No?

Speaker 1 (02:22:13):
I don't know who. I don't know, but I can
tell you this, We probably should know their name because
they're doing a hell of a job at the minor
league level all the way through. Well, and that's what
I was gonna say. I mean, he gets back to
scouting and development, and that's that's what this organization has
done so well, and that's why they've continued to prolong
this thing as as long as they have. I mean,
because they're.

Speaker 6 (02:22:31):
Well, I mean clearly he's he's reading the same Bible
that you know, Josh Miller and the rest of the.

Speaker 1 (02:22:37):
Pitching staff left behind. Oh yeah, I.

Speaker 6 (02:22:39):
Mean just because I mean it just it seems like
whoever comes through this they're automatically healed. They're different. There's
no doubt, no for sure. And you know we talked
about it last night. With what Ryan Gusto was able
to do, that's a nice revelation to have. I mean
a guy that at least the last couple of times
out has been able to give you strong performances and confidence.

Speaker 8 (02:23:00):
I mean he had a you know, he had a
situation what he had runners at second and third with
one out corners. Yeah, and he's able to and he's
able to get out of that. I mean, that's that's maturity,
because that was a spot three weeks ago. Joe's going
out there and pulling him. He's going on, now, you've
hit your limit, You're done. No, developed that confidence and
say I have the faith that you're going to work

(02:23:21):
out of this. And he did it, and again, just
can't say enough about him. Colton Gordon again not a
name we even were talking about before the season. Then
you know, Brandon Walter guy was with the Red Sox
a couple of years ago. They just pick up off
the scrap heap, and that dude's been nothing. I mean,
he's just going out there and responding every single time.

Speaker 1 (02:23:38):
All about it. If you guys, remove jord On from it, Gordy,
you don't get you don't get to put him in this.
Who's the most important player of the second half of
the season for the astros Christian Walker, right, I'll good,
the I'll good the other way, and he it was
a little scared with him missing the last couple of games.

Speaker 8 (02:23:57):
You just got back in there last night, but he
stuck parading. I think is a guy that look when
he is on and he's I mean, especially at home.
We've seen his propensity to knock balls into the Crawford
boxes at ease. I'd love to see him get if
he gets hot for like a four to six week
spam man. I mean, you'll be sitting there going Kyle Tucker,

(02:24:20):
who like we got Cam Smith and this guy in
exchange for him. So I'm gonna put a little pressure
on Paradis that I need him to step up and
be one of your top three players down the stretch.

Speaker 1 (02:24:29):
Every single week.

Speaker 6 (02:24:30):
You're brought to us by Carbok Brewing, and I'm sure
you've probably had a lifetime of Cabernet pin on the water,
all those different types of wine. So what was the
first Crawford bock that you had when you got back?

Speaker 10 (02:24:41):
Oh?

Speaker 8 (02:24:41):
Look, when you sit on a tarmac and Corpus Christy
for six hours and you can't get off the dam plane,
I was kissing the ground when I got off back
in Houston yesterday afternoon. But first thing I grab when
I got home, cracked up in n ice cool Crawford
back from crowdbok Berg. Goes perfectly with Astros baseball. All
these late night games this wee week out on the
West Coast. Make sure you are sitting at home, parked

(02:25:03):
in your couch with ice cold Crawford Bock in your hands.
And then next week when the Astros are back at home,
you'll be able to get one over there at dik
In Park. All over the ballpark. It goes great with
Astros baseball. It is the Crawford Bach from Carbock Brewing
bird right here in Houston, Texas.

Speaker 6 (02:25:17):
Had a couple of them at the game last week,
so you always know that you can count on it.

Speaker 1 (02:25:21):
Thank you, Gordy, appreciate it, Buddy Sales.

Speaker 6 (02:25:22):
Always great to catch up Chris Gordy every single week
courtesy at Carbock Brewing. All right, let's get back into
the Astros conversation, because yes, some of those frustrations did
rear it's ugly head last night.

Speaker 1 (02:25:33):
We'll talk about it right here. It is Sean Salisbury show.

Speaker 14 (02:25:37):
Hey, as coach Udoka here every Rockets game on Sports
Talk seven ninety and on the iHeartRadio app Home of
Your Rockets.

Speaker 6 (02:25:50):
The seven ninety listener line here in the nine o'clock
hour is presented by one eight hundred, car Cash and Brandon.

Speaker 1 (02:25:57):
Good morning, coome on and how are you good man?
How are you?

Speaker 5 (02:26:01):
I'm okay.

Speaker 2 (02:26:02):
I heard Chris Gordy on the phone.

Speaker 1 (02:26:04):
He was with us in the studio. But yeah, it's
always great to be able to catch up with Gordy morning, Sean.
How you doing, Brandon? What's going on, Buddy? I'm doing okay.
What's on your mind to day? Ma?

Speaker 11 (02:26:18):
Man, I haven't played my game yet, but I'm gonna wait.

Speaker 6 (02:26:21):
So all right, So, I mean, I don't even know
if you can find Jason Alexander on the show, but
if you can, hopefully hopefully you pitch well with them.
I'm guessing it didn't go well for you yesterday because
of the way that the game went.

Speaker 1 (02:26:39):
No, he No, he's pitching today? Is he? Yeah? He is.
I just I'm saying I just don't know if he's
on MLB the show. Maybe he is, probably is the show?

Speaker 8 (02:26:49):
Okay?

Speaker 1 (02:26:49):
Cool?

Speaker 6 (02:26:50):
Well, you know, let us know how he looks and
hopefully he looks if it's good, then hopefully he looks
that way tonight.

Speaker 1 (02:26:56):
I want to give him.

Speaker 7 (02:26:57):
I don't want to give up mahom wanted to so h.

Speaker 1 (02:27:04):
Yeah, you don't want to do that. No home runs, Yeah,
two of them last night's with j Jen. There you go.

Speaker 13 (02:27:11):
Too, is.

Speaker 1 (02:27:14):
I can strike out.

Speaker 7 (02:27:15):
I'm going to strike out.

Speaker 6 (02:27:16):
Pray all right, Well hopefully you're able to do that, man.
Hopefully the Stros can bounce back and start a new
wind streak tonight.

Speaker 1 (02:27:25):
Yeah, there you go.

Speaker 12 (02:27:26):
All right, Brandon for any news from four.

Speaker 6 (02:27:32):
Oh on, jord On, just that he's continuing to work.
Appreciate the call, man, Uh, just that he's continuing the work.
Still not swinging the bats at the moment. But I mean,
as Gordy mentioned with us that in the game notes yesterday,
they did have from the trainer's room tab there on
the game notes, and it did do a rundown of
everybody not named Lance mccullors junior, and one of them

(02:27:54):
on there was Jodan Alvarez. And they did also note
that all of the injured guys, even the ones that
are currently with the team, are on this road trip,
so most of those guys getting worked back here in Houston.

Speaker 1 (02:28:03):
Didn't themselves rehab ready to go? And aren't they didn't
they say the sentence, Spencer agat hed and Steve Save
down to Florida.

Speaker 6 (02:28:09):
Yeah, say in the notes, and he's going to go
out to Florida and continue his throwing programs. So probably
get him in some complex league games and then soon enough,
get him the Corpus, get him this shir.

Speaker 1 (02:28:18):
Land post All Star game. I'd imagine I.

Speaker 6 (02:28:20):
Would think at this point you're probably thinking post All
Star break with him. Agreed well, and again, I mean
it gets back to what we talked about earlier with
Lance mccullors junior. Is I mean pitchers, hands, elbows, shoulders,
all of those things. He had the thumbs, so obviously
the hand. I mean you've got to be able to
grip the baseball. You got to be able to throw
the baseball, all of those things, and I mean just

(02:28:41):
getting it healed is one thing. It's then all right,
I haven't thrown it about a month and a half,
two months, so now I need to do that a
little bit more.

Speaker 1 (02:28:49):
All of that, I mean, you've got to do all
of that.

Speaker 6 (02:28:51):
But pitching has not been the issue for the team
and and seemingly too, Sean, we could have every single excuse,
like if let's just say night Steven Oker comes in
and he has just an awful sixth inning, yes, you
would have had someone on Astros Twitter.

Speaker 1 (02:29:06):
I can't believe it.

Speaker 6 (02:29:07):
A new is only a matter of time where it's like, whoa, whoa, whoa,
You're looking at this all wrong. Man, the guy's been
aces for you. And seemingly it does feel like and
me and you had this conversation last week that more
benefit of the doubt is given to the lineup than
it is the pitchers. Like I didn't go on astros
Twitter this morning to see what it looked like after
Brian a bread you gave up the two run Homer,

(02:29:28):
But I'm sure there are probably people out there a
break you again where it's like you do realize he's
only given up earn runs in three outings this year
that he's had.

Speaker 1 (02:29:36):
Yeah, well for me until further notice. As far as
you know, each game you compartmentalize, each game you critique,
Each game is go compliment, critique, whatever it is. But
there there can be no overall bad grade for the
overall pitching staff and what they've accomplished bullpen or starting
pitching this year. Hey, plus, yes you can, you can.

(02:29:57):
We can complain all we all about injuries and even back,
but that adds more to that a plus rating of
Look what guys you didn't expect to do? Do that?
They're posting every fifth or sixth day, depending and they're
doing their thing. Yeah, I'll bring you now, if that
happened three games in a row, then we can have
a little different discussion. But I uh, right now to
slander a pitching staff right now that quite frankly, has

(02:30:20):
carried them, loaded them on their back, and carried them
through the season. And we saw this message. There's this
same message last year. We read it, heard it, saw
it that they Hey, nobody's above criticism, but the way
they're pitching, this team is pitching as well as anybody
in baseball, and under the circumstances better considering what they're doing.

Speaker 6 (02:30:38):
Well, I mean, you've had a couple of rough starts
here and there, fo dollars you know from are out
in Chicago, but you know, for the most part you've
been able to count on that group. And then the
middle bullpen, those guys in middle relief have been fantastic
for you. And then I understand the two run Homer
given up last night, the loss up at Seattle, the
rough seventh inning he had here. But Brian Bree's been

(02:30:59):
ace for you. He's been fantastic. Josh Hater sing deal
even better.

Speaker 1 (02:31:03):
I'm not really worried about either one of those guys
and haters having an All Star year again. Yeah, I mean,
he's just he's really good. And I think that, you know,
last year, remember we came into the CSA. I think
he probably feels like he's got something to prove because
he wasn't his best last year, but a bray you
and you know he's had his moments last year as well.
But this year, listen, we expect perfection out of him

(02:31:26):
every time they go. That's the thing. When you get
a late like an eighth and a ninth closer and
an eighth inning, guys that they're not allowed to have
bad innings at least, that's what we say, right, And
you're right that this microscope is far more on them.
We criticize them more than you will. A guy goes
all for four, well, because they're onreadly doing it once
every couple of days, right, But yeah, there's not a
lot of slander headed towards towards this team. The way

(02:31:48):
that they've pitched this year, they've been phenomenal.

Speaker 6 (02:31:50):
That's why again, i mean, like last night the two
run homer. I'm sure there are probably people that were
upset with Brian A brad you, but marsl pitch was
not good.

Speaker 1 (02:31:57):
Oh sure, But my response to him as what, you
scored one run? Right? What the hell? Like? Yes, score six?
That home run doesn't mean a hill of beans.

Speaker 6 (02:32:06):
Guess what on the safe side of the line is
a little bit shorter than the dangerous side of the line.

Speaker 1 (02:32:11):
No doubt about. Listen, it was unfortunate they didn't score.
They pitched well. He threw a bad pitch that sometimes
you know what happens, guys not expect they fouled it
all for. You know, they're like, oh, you just missed it. Well,
he leveled it up and got it on a barrel
and smoked it. And I mean, Kurtz hit the hell
out of it. But that that was just a good

(02:32:33):
piece of hitting on a pitch that, obray is not
going to throw one that sits there on a tee
in the middle of the plate very often. That's it,
and he did.

Speaker 6 (02:32:40):
That's the thing with the lineup that I just continue
to point to is I'm tired of the just missed it.
I'm tired of the they're almost here. You were seventy
two games in. Guys, get there like like, be there
and be ready in those spots. I need the three
run homer, I need the bases clearing double. I need
all those things.

Speaker 1 (02:32:59):
And you validates it when you look at the other side.
You said, be there and take care of it. And
the pitching staff's done exactly that all year long.

Speaker 6 (02:33:06):
Any things that you could possibly blame on them have
been out of their control. Injuries, they're there, and I
understand can't use injuries as an excuse. All right, fine,
but you're in a one to one ball game right there. Yeah,
there's chances that you're going to lose that game, a
strong chance.

Speaker 1 (02:33:20):
Nothing more cliche than saying next man up. We always
hear that. I mean, we all say it. The truth
of the matter is they've lived it, and they've not
only lived it, but they've they've maximized it. Man, it's
been impressive. It really has for sure, absolutely, And I
mean I was standing last night unfortunate. You know, you
didn't score runs. And when a team that's not as
good as you hangs around, it only takes one swing,
and they got that last night.

Speaker 6 (02:33:41):
Well, it's also too, as Sparky said, when they do
run into that lull I don't want to hear anything
about the pitching at that point, because they have been
anything but the problem for this team this year.

Speaker 1 (02:33:52):
Games over five hundred. One game doesn't isn't enough for
you to get after a braid you on one bad pitch.

Speaker 6 (02:33:57):
Now, not even close. Chris, your there, We'll get you
involved in the conversation. Also to astros fans, I got
a challenge for you, and it's a huge challenge that
you need to meet.

Speaker 1 (02:34:08):
We'll talk about it right here.

Speaker 6 (02:34:09):
It is Sean Salisbury Show, Sports Talk seven ninety W.

Speaker 3 (02:34:15):
Sean Salisbury continues on Steven ninety.

Speaker 6 (02:34:18):
Going over to Chris Corney's old stomping grounds, New Orleans.
Chris wants to weigh in.

Speaker 13 (02:34:24):
Hey, guys, how are you all this morning?

Speaker 1 (02:34:26):
Very well?

Speaker 2 (02:34:26):
How are you?

Speaker 1 (02:34:26):
Chris? So far, so good?

Speaker 2 (02:34:30):
So?

Speaker 13 (02:34:30):
First of all, the Lance mccullars Junior, I don't know
about you, guys. I'm sitting here waiting for it to
go on three weeks and then have a spot to
come out and tell us, well, it's actually a break,
and we couldn't tell initially because of the swelling, because
that seems that seems to be the line, and then
he'll be day to day, week to week. I do
feel bad for him, though I know he's worked hard

(02:34:52):
to get back here. I don't know what he did
to spring that thing, though, you know, maybe he was
sprinting for the plane. That's I came in on the
end of something because I was getting in the car
taking my son to camp and y'all were talking about
Harry Bradshaw with the TSA and then something about Ricky
Williams dealing with the cops, and it got me thinking,

(02:35:14):
I always find it funny because I don't understand how
somebody's and I say this as a thirty year retired
police officer detective detective sergeant that supervised officers dealt with
people in New Orleans a lot of times in the
French Quarter where these people were drunk on Bourbon Street.

(02:35:35):
Funniest thing to me is is that none of the
pr people for you know, celebrities or athletes seemed to
teach them that never in the annals of history has
a person, when stopped by the cops, said I don't
think you know who I am?

Speaker 1 (02:35:56):
And that ever ended? Well for that, yeah you use it.
He usually is up on the opposite of that, Yeah,
I don't care. Well, now you'll be a famous you
were talking about Terry Bradshaw said, I'm Terry Bradshaw. Right, Yeah,
he didn't say that. No, No, it's a great point
by you, man. Is he is our caller still on?

Speaker 13 (02:36:15):
But yeah, yeah, And I will say, especially in the
world of body cameras, right, so you'll have a lot
of people to say, well, i'm filming, well, most of
them don't know, especially if it's a traffic stop. All
of those things are linked to their body cam. So
the minute they hit the car lights, their bodycam starts.
So they were filming before anything ever happened. And if

(02:36:37):
you watch these videos, it becomes quite comical because you
will usually see the officers and they will either try
to kill them with kindness or they will be completely
emotionless and they will just let this person spool themselves up.
But all that being said, I do say that as
much as I tell that I say that the celebrities

(02:37:00):
should do that. I always would tell my officers, am
I detectives. You know, no matter how you're dealing with someone,
it doesn't mean it doesn't matter if they are the
victim of a crime, they're accused of a crime. You
treat that person the exact same way you would want
your family member to be treated by the police if
they were in that situation. And I always told my

(02:37:21):
family members, if you ever get stopped by the police,
do not act like a donkey, the exact same way
that you would want me to be treated by someone
that I stopped. And and you know usually that that
deal or that that cures a multitude of things. And

(02:37:41):
then the last thing on it I always find funny
with the athletes is you know, you guys know locker rooms.
I'll know athletes. You go into a locker room and
every one of those guys is in alpha. It's just
what's the alpha pecking order? I can take you into.
I can take you into the police locker room. And
that's the same thing. And just like those ass fleets,
dare train to win, and you know, the minute somebody

(02:38:03):
throws down the gauntlet of you don't know who I am.
You started measuring contest and we all know how that.

Speaker 1 (02:38:12):
Frank call and thanks for your service. In all my life,
I'm not not a celebrity, even in my own home,
but at times when you're on, I have never ever
tried to pull that because I know they'd say, no,
don't don't have any idea who you are. And as
a matter of fact, now I'm giving you two tickets,
so I've quite the OLB. Every now and then you'll
hear somebody says I've heard your voice, heard your voice,

(02:38:34):
and I let them decide if they and you try
to play it off, because then you go the humble approach,
which you should anyway, and he's so right about it,
just right, do you like? No, I don't want any
part of that, because now I would understand if somebody
doesn't know when you stop Michael Jordan like a traffic stop.
It's like I would assume that most people know, and
I doubt Michael would have to say it. But yeah,

(02:38:54):
that never is Well, what a great call, because you're
just another You're just a just a normal stop. That
matter of fact, I would think that they'd want you
to play the humble card on him if you're for
a traffic stop, I will.

Speaker 6 (02:39:05):
I always love to snark the other way to try
to drop that. It's like, oh, well now you're can
be famous with them congratulations.

Speaker 1 (02:39:12):
Good yeah, or the one that somebody could put in. Yeah,
oh yeah, you you cost me money on a throw
you make, so you ain't a celebrity in my house,
right there you go? So yeah, best to stay away
from that and uh be kind. Remember the bumper stickers,
you know, and talked about it and then I took a
picture threw it up on Twitter at a gas station
the constable right you on that radio show. I was like, yeah,

(02:39:34):
he goes the picture. I was like, oh, he's like yeah,
follow you on Twitter. I was like, oh classic. And
then you get into a conversation that's the normal way,
you know. What would I hear? Dude? It's so cringe
worthy and he's so right on the cold. I'm sure
he's seen a million times of the the measuring contest
is won the ego, but also where people have tried

(02:39:57):
to play the celebrit It's like, it's so cringe when
you it's cringe worth. When he said, don't don't do that,
don't play the do you know whoy? Nobody cares if
your money's the same as your ten dollars is getting
spent the same with the other ten bucks? Is it
at a grocery store and the same at a traffic stuff?
I'm not not giving you a ticket because of who
you are. Sometimes it's not the famous guy or girl.
It's somebody in the group. You know who that is. Yeah, don't.

(02:40:18):
It's like it's like, don't, don't, don't do that, man, No,
I don't. I don't want this getting out. If they wanted,
if they would recognized it and want to health that,
that's fine. But the old do you know right when
it starts with do you have any idea that is
a that don't do it?

Speaker 6 (02:40:32):
It's it's not helped. It's not helped and it never will.
Gary and Spring, you're going to close this out? What's
that classic called by him?

Speaker 2 (02:40:38):
Though?

Speaker 1 (02:40:38):
Sure?

Speaker 13 (02:40:40):
Hey, good morning guys.

Speaker 1 (02:40:41):
Yeah, that guy that was just don there was absolutely right.

Speaker 10 (02:40:43):
The only problem is the world's upside down now, so
it's backwards.

Speaker 1 (02:40:47):
So what he's saying that is right is now is
not Yeah, which is crazy. Yeah, out of respect, no
question about it. He was spot on, though, how you
doing today.

Speaker 10 (02:40:56):
Manah, I'm all right, listen, I'm just gonna been here
real quickly because you guys are in the same boat
with me, and you guys, even especially the ones that
do the after show show, I am so.

Speaker 1 (02:41:08):
Man, I'm a lifetime I'm an old guy. I go
to bed early.

Speaker 10 (02:41:12):
I'm I'm so mad at these damn West Coast games
come out of clock, man, I can't stand them. And
guess what I deliver and listen to you guys on
the radio the following day, so I already know and
I record them all. But by the time I get home,
I've already known what happened. So it's kind of one
of those things. But I just you know, you know,
the next game that we see on a normal time

(02:41:33):
is going to be Sunday.

Speaker 1 (02:41:34):
Yeah, that's the first.

Speaker 10 (02:41:36):
It's four or five or two thirty o'clock game, and
the rest of them are nine o'clock or a little
bit later. So I just wanted to call invent and
you guys probably can feel me and everything.

Speaker 1 (02:41:47):
But now that I've vented, I do feel better. Gary, Gary,
real quick, just pretend like you didn't hear us tell
you that a two run walk off job so that
these pretend, but unfortunately we have to. But I'm glad
we could help. He's awesome. Somebody tunes in ah spoiler alert. Man,
It's like this isn't the old chronicle days where it

(02:42:07):
says late in the paper. There chief, you see this
thing right here, It's called a computer. You can look
it up. Gary's right though, man, the frustration of the
late games. I'm with the man percent when you got
to get up early, so appreciate him, Appreciate everybody.

Speaker 6 (02:42:22):
I'll pause it and then fast forward While'll do the
coffee in the morning, just really quick, all right, this
happened in the seventh that you know, do that. But uh,
I woke up just in time to see the walk
off last night and I was like, okay.

Speaker 1 (02:42:32):
Turn the team. Great, yeah, there you go, and it's
time time to go to bed. It's a new day
and a new opportunity. Let's hope we get Lance mccollor's
info soon.

Speaker 6 (02:42:41):
And vote for Jeremy Pania to be the All Star starter.
He's third right now, behind Jacob Wilson and Bobby witche.

Speaker 1 (02:42:48):
You wouldn't have to apologize for it, you know. With
Junior will make a run for it too. But here
he's going to be in uniform being introduced, for sure
to be. He's had a great year so far. For sure,
let's get as many of them there as possible. Triple
Emmanuel elm all right, he's Shawn Salisbury. I'm Dan Matthews.

Speaker 6 (02:43:02):
It is the Shawn Salisbury Show, Sports Talk seven ninety,
The Matt Thomas Show with Ross coming up next. We
