(00:02):
Saulsbury, Olberry. Okay, let'sdo this. Sewn Salisbury, the usc
trous longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury,Brian Lima, go Lobos. This is
the Sean Salisbury Show. Brian Lilima, Emanuel Elmore. Astros win. Yeah,

(00:31):
Mavericks headed to the NBA Finals totake on the Celtics. Astros are
back in action this evening. They'reback. Call the mayor, plan on
the parade. Tell them to shutdown Louisiana Street in early November. Screw
that shut down fifty nine, shutit all, it all down, and

(00:52):
just shut it all down. CyYoung winners. They're back. Eric Getty
did you see his uh post game? I did not, but I saw
game perfect time of day yesterday,Get stuff done, rolling, good start,
got a nice get it, getsa little help from bregvan Early,

(01:14):
got a nice head of lettuce on. He does nice. He can butnt
it up, he can half ponyit, he can hide pony it.
He had like the fade here.Yeah, looks stupid, but anyway,
okay, okay, he kind oflooks like, Uh, Cameron Poe,
are you going Cameron Poe and connAir? Yes, Nicholas Cage Yeah,

(01:36):
Nick nicky Uh. I like Aragetty'severy day improvement when I say every single
game, he gets better all thedamn time. And you know what I
like about him is that he youwonder what you know with the flowing locks
and local kid and Katie, whatkind of grind he has as a rookie.

(01:57):
I like his what's the demeanor Moxie. Yeah, there's a demeanor about
him that it doesn't really change much. And I like that and young guys
because sometimes young guys can have alittle extra emotion. He's in control of
it and he's listen, he's hadthose moments where he's he's been where he
struggled, and he's had those momentswhere he's had to fight through it.

(02:21):
He's had those moments where he's lookedgood and he's a good swing and mispitcher,
and it was impressiveent you give hima lead, hung in there,
got some help from his friends ina bullpen and listen if Hunter Brown and
Spencer Araghetty this is who they arenow. Listen, we got a lot
more of what is wrong with HunterBrown this year than we've got what is

(02:43):
right. But the recent returns onHunter Brown says this is what I think
they had in mind for him andRagetty. All you can ask a guy
who's in his spot is to somehowget better every single time you go out
there, and he has for themost part. I thought yesterday was outstanding.
This has been a great pitching series. Oh yeah, and really,

(03:07):
in truth, on both teams,it's been a great pitching series. And
you get the home run from Bregman, he gets a couple hits. It
was even though they didn't explode offensively, they gave enough. And Araghetty pitched,
you know what. It almost feltlike he was going in pitching,
Okay, we're only going to scoretwo runs. I gotta make sure I
do this right. And I thoughthe was outstanding yesterday. And in order

(03:31):
to start a win streak, yougotta win one. I know it sounds
cheesy but in cliche, but itis the truth. But it's a good
way to get out of there onto get away, to take care of
your business when you've been you're tryingto escape a sweep and then you're trying
to escape a sweep and you're runninga rookie out there on a day game.
So I was impressed with his performanceand it was a nice job by

(03:55):
Bregman and a really good job byRaghetty and the pitching staff to keep that
game down and not give up thatone or two pitches where it's like,
oh my gosh, we've put ourselvesin a problem. And then uh,
you know with Hater getting out oftwo runners on in the you know,
in the ninth inning and finishing itup. That was I liked yesterday's game,
even though it wasn't pretty all theway around. I thought his performance

(04:17):
was. I thought it was reallyelectric yesterday. Six innings, just two
hits, no runs, three walks, eight k's. Can you believe that
he's already appeared in nine games,no shoes, no shut, no problem
on a Friday, Yeah, KennyChaz, could you he's already what nine

(04:38):
games? Nine? I know? And you know what, I think he's
here to stay. Yeah. Wellwith if you know that when it first
happened, I'm talking about even ifthey're healthy, is he not here to
why would you why would you runhim out? Well, I mean why
would you send Joey loberfdo down?Who Joey lo Braffedo? I he played

(04:59):
first base off? Yes? Uhmore place more of that on this level
place I would I would like youJoey Lo Braffito exactly so I need With
Spencer when he came up, weheard all the spring training stuff. When
he came up. In truth, you did not believe neither of him.

(05:21):
But you thought, like most ofus, temporary gonna do it, get
some looks and go back down.Everybody gets healthy, and it's a fact,
right, Yeah we're gonna get orKatie healthy, but you're gonna get
a nice glimpse of who the whothe cat is, right and by for
whatever reason, he just kind ofit's another start. It's another start.

(05:42):
And when you can two hit thatteam, that's pretty good and you can
get the six innings and you've improved. I don't think go one the other
way, you know what I'm saying. Some guys you'll start off, you'll
get that first you know, weall have that first game of I don't
know whether it's naive or where you'relike, man, this is it's not
this easy, right, You're like, no, it gets tougher. But

(06:03):
because you're not all you know whatyou're all you're thinking in your first start.
I know from me and Brian whetherit's your first start in college.
It doesn't matter what level. Tellme if you're not thinking, I really
don't know what I'm doing. Igot some talent. I just got to
get through this thing. So you'rejust trying to get through it. You're
really the game, especially if it'sin your early stages of your career where
you're young. You're like and thenyou walk out of it, saying from

(06:25):
game one of the game two, that's a starting quarterback. I thought I
had a clue. You don't havea clue. You're just trying to make
plays, right. You really don'tknow why you made the throw that was
a complete sy That dude was open. Well, what coverage you do?
Well? I think they did this. And then you got to go back
and watch the tape and say, okay, I was kind of in tune.
But then the next game, it'slike, okay, now they've seen

(06:46):
you. You've seen them. Nowyou're starting to think like a starter,
right, And it's the same thinghere. This guy. You go out
there and then you say, okay, how does he deal with success or
failure? And I think he's donea great job. So last night put
it this way, when guys comeback. That dude has proven that he's
gonna gut it out. Now.I don't know what's going to go on
the rest of the season, butif this is who he is and the

(07:10):
improvement, all the talk they hadin spring training about him and what we
thought we were gonna get, you'regetting. There's a toughness about him that
I like, and toughness is onething. You still got to get people
out. But he is. Andthink about his strikeout. I mean he's
improved. I mean it's six strikeouts, it's seven strikeouts, it's eight strikeouts.
He's really done a good job ofunderstanding and commanding what he's trying to

(07:32):
do better every week. I likeit. So in April, uh,
three innings, so his first outin three innings, then four innings and
three and two thirds, and thenwe got into May five and two thirds,
five, five, six and athird five, and then last night
six innings pitch. So think andlook if you go through the strikeouts for
the most part too, Yeah,it's uh, let's see in just in

(07:55):
I mean first three outings, threestrikeouts, two strike I'm sorry, three
strike five strikeouts, seven strikeouts. Then we got into May, it was
six four, five, six, seven, eight. There you go.
So last three outings that's continued, right, so, which means he's starting
to get a command and know wherehis best stuff is right, know where
he can locate and how what hisout pitches or where the zone is on

(08:18):
each hit or he's gotten better. And if you're a manager and you're an
organization, isn't that what you askof every player? He ain't going south.
He's going north. I unless allof a sudden he falls off a
cliff. This guy's getting invaluable experienceand he's not doing it at at the
expense of a team losing games.Now. I know his record is the
losing side, but he himself isgetting a lot better and he's not going

(08:43):
No, he's not going anywhere.Because we still have no updates on Christian
Javier and Jose Erkety. I gotone for you. I told you the
longer it goes. This has beenforty eight hours since Danon Brown's been on
now correct at nine point thirty today. When you hear today or tomorrow or
the news, drop today, SportsToday, Friday, Friday news dump and

(09:03):
guess what you're gonna hear that it'snot the news you want to hear.
I'm saying, in my opinion,I'm with you. I'm saying they're both
out for the rest of the yearbecause if it was great news on a
Nerkidi, you would have known alreadybecause it would have wanted to give fan
base and everybody else some excitement togo into especially if you lost three in
a row. People play the oh, man, we're struggling here, let's
give him some news to hang theirhat and he's coming back, got hope,

(09:24):
stay with us. I'm just tellingyou, I'll be far more shocked
if the news comes back that aftera second opinion, boy, these two
guys will be back in two weeks. I'm not buying it. My opinion
is and I'm no doctor. Butover the course of broadcasting it or playing
it, the longer it takes foryou to an organization to tell us usually

(09:46):
or the player to tell us,usually, it means they're out longer.
It's rare from my experiences. It'srare to see him come back and say,
hey, it took a week, but you know what. And even
if they come back saying there's someglimmer there, there's some new we've heard
it on mccolors in the past.We heard it on Urkiti. It was
supposed to be two weeks, twoweeks, It may be a year if

(10:13):
it's not the news you want tohear. You get my point. Yeah,
so, uh, I don't think. And it's Friday. You'll probably
hear at the end of the daytoday or sometime today. Yeah, they'll
So let's see that they're back hometoday. So it's a seven to ten
start, So that means they usuallystart to send out there and lineups and
everything in media and all that, and all the game notes usually get sent
out about three o'clock. Somebody's gonnapress them today on the injury. Yeah,

(10:33):
and they know well, because likeyou is, Dana Brown told us
on this show nine thirty on Wednesday, that's forty eight hours ago as it
is when nine thirty gets here. The excuse me, the imaging was done
twenty four hours prior to that,So we're going on, excuse me,
dang it, seventy two hours sincethe imaging apparently was done. You know

(10:54):
what, I bet the imaging wasdone over the weekend. They have their
answer on the imaging before you wentto bed that night. Oh yeah,
they know what expert doctors that theyneed. These pro teams don't wait in
line like you and I may haveto for with when they got a stack
of fifty seven fifty eight MRIs thatday from a doctor. Or you know

(11:16):
when you're just a mere minion rightwhen you're a starting pitcher in Major League
baseball, guess what that means? And a team that you got your team
doctor, they're looking at it andthey're, hey, man, I got
news for you. You're probably gonnaneed a second look. It doesn't look
good if it comes back positive, all stand up and say thanks from my
past, the knowledge of this isdifferent than the normal turn of events.

(11:37):
Great they waited along second opinion, but the second if the first opinion wasn't
good or the MRI, the secondopinion usually is, hey, he's one
hundred percent healthy in two weeks. If it was perfect on the first opinion,
guess what you would have known seein a couple of weeks you didn't,
So why does it take longer? You're trying to find some solace somewhere

(11:58):
in that they're going to be okay, don't I don't trust that it's going
to be back anytime soon. AndI hope I'm wrong. The Astros pitching
staff have pitched their ass off thelast five games. Let's take a look
at it and how they can rollin with some momentum tonight against the Twins.
That's next on Sports Talk seven ninety. Hurricane season officially starts tomorrow.

(12:18):
We've already had tons of storms hitthe city of Houston over the last couple
of weeks. Storms blew through theNorth side yesterday and I saw people up
in like the Conori Willis Area outof power once again. That's like five
times in the last two weeks. You don't need to worry about these storms

(13:46):
nights because right now you see it. Let on Houston right now. Go
back to Sean Salisbury Astro's back homeat Mini Ma Park. Tonight they host
the Twins seven to ten, thefirst pitch six o'clock on deck show right
here on seven on your home FreshRows Baseball Texans OTAs. You know what
that means. Oh no, don'tplay it today. Today we were gonna

(14:09):
break down the routes that Stefan Diggswas making was running We're gonna break down
Joe Mixon's uh blocking ability. Ineed to know third and eight. I
need you to break down how theyrun that six yard hitch on the out.
Yeah, yeah, coverage? Giveme that today. Huh. I
mean that's I mean, that's thethat's the stuff people want to c J.

(14:31):
Stroud was only working a three stepdrop? Is that a new wrinkle
in the offense? Tune in?I don't think it is. You sure,
I don't know. Maybe they're throwingit into ot as. I really
need you to Yeah, let meknow, man, Okay, we'll get
to that. Don't worry. Yeah, it's coming. It's it's you know
what it's called. That's good. That's tough. That's good ass sledding.

(14:54):
Yeah, it'd be tough sledding. That's good sledding. You feel me,
dog? Yeah? Also, youknow what about the what about the use
of the eleven personnel? How's thatgoing to change with? Uh? Stefan
Diggs, do we know what elevenpersonnel is to the people out there?
Uh? No, we don't know. So you do you if I know

(15:16):
they use it sixty percent of thetime, What do you think it is,
Well, there's eleven people on theon the field at all times.
Had nothing to do with that.So if you say ten personnel, that
means we're all going to play aten. It's a little lesson. I'm
not talking abou you have done forthe people when they say on TV.
The reason I say, we hearit all the time. Hey, cover
two? Could you tell the peoplethat don't know what covered? Don't look?

(15:41):
Don't look, it's it we're teachinghere. It's a teaching moment.
As a teaching moment, Yes,one back, one, three wide receivers.
There you go, Tata, yeah, Mike right, Mike fifty five.
Okay, So the in is howmany running backs and tight ends?

(16:02):
And goes in that one running back, one tight end? So what's twenty
one personnel? Two running backs, one tight end and two wide receivers?
Damn just learning baby, right,That's what we do. See, that's
why we focus on OTAs. That'swhy OTAs are important. Organize training activities
OTAs. There you go, seeyou get that. You don't get that

(16:22):
everywhere? People don't say it freely, but don't It doesn't take much to
explain and somebody says, oh,they're an eleven personnel on TV as if
everybody that grew up watching football, what are you talking about? Just it
doesn't take much to the eleven personnel. Let means back in a tight end,
they are three wideouts. Okay, cool, now we can go play
at least once again. It getsback to to me the best in the

(16:44):
business, and you always try toemulate the best in the business in any
job you have, I would thinkand take it to another level. It
doesn't take much in a game oron a studio set when you're going through,
oh yeah, they're an eleven personnelto stop down or the host to
say, tell them what that means, because you don't ever want to talk
under the expert or over the amateurmeaning amateur meaning somebody who's new to the

(17:06):
game. And some people just won'task questions when they tell you know,
they're like, well, what isit a stupid question? No, you
don't always have to have what whattwelve or eleven personnel or twenty one personnel
is you want? It's okay toexplain it, and it doesn't take much
because if I ask ninety percent ofAmerica to go up and draw cover two,
and what the assignments were for thelinebackers and the secondary. They would

(17:29):
not know how to do it,no shot. So every now and then,
with all the nonsense and hot takecrap you do on TV, how
about having just a day, everyday during football season you break down one
coverage or one personnel grouping or onewhat they mean when they mean zap motion,
why they call it zap, orjust just explain when somebody uses the
Johnny Lingo stuff, what does itmean? You'd get a lot out of.

(17:52):
Instead of yelling and screaming at eachother over whether Aaron Rodgers is still
a good player that you're going todo that eight million times during the year,
wouldn't it be nice to have somebodystep up there and say, well,
here's what Cover two is. Willlinebackers hook the curl? You know
you already got a corner who's gotthe flats. The corners have the flat,
so you don't need a second personto flat. Mike linebacker, has

(18:15):
you know you got all? Thisis all? Everybody's got to respect the
run. Mike linebacker has you knowhashmarked the hashmark on too deep Cover two?
And he's got to take away thatbender pump down the middle of the
field where the tight ends run.So you got to get enough depth to
take care of that, still respectthe run game, and and and be
in position to drive on a backthat checks down the position you left in.
So you go make a tackle.Simple, You've done it in about

(18:37):
two minutes, explained what it is. Now move on and go back to
yelling at each other on television.Okay, so I just don't get it.
It's like in baseball too. Doyou think everybody knows what used to
what we mean when we say gapto gap? Probably not right right,
They don't what's a gap to gap? What does it mean? Inside out?
When to pull your hands and tohit the ball the other way,

(18:59):
or to get the barrel out infront of the plate, or why you
do or don't drop your hands. The teaching one oh one would be really
good for some who don't understand it, But we just assume everybody understands.
It's like life. You'd assume, and before you know it, you're in
so deep. And they go backand say, you know, I really
never knew. I had a quarterbacksat times, and I always talk said,
don't be to listen. There's nostupid question. Don't let me talk
at you. And I try totalk simply to them, especially young guys,

(19:21):
because and we get to a pointwhere we assume everybody knows answers right.
And I tell him, I said, if there at any point in
time, you give me that brooktrout look where your eyes are big and
you don't know, just ask becauseI don't want to talk over him.
But it has happened where you're talkingto them and they're like nod in their
head because you think well, ninthgrader, and you never want to think
well. In the seventh eighth grade, I was learning coverage. We don't
want to put that on. Peoplelearn different ways, right, Some are

(19:42):
visual, some like the verbage, some need to see it, some need
to walk through it. But I'vehad them, We're about six months in.
I've had a quarterback say, coach, when you say cover two,
what does that mean? It's likeWHOA, Okay, yeah, and not
in a bad way. Yeah, you kid's a good place, but just
you know, you never had anybodyI got. There's high school kids that

(20:03):
you know why they snap their headover to the sidelines. They don't read
anything, They just play. Thecoaches won't let look over there. They're
telling them where to throw it,which to me is just so absurd,
And you don't teach them understanding protections. At some point, no matter what
level, you're gonna have to understandprotections. If you don't know who the
free guy is or who's not blocked, you're gonna get your ass handed to
you, whether it's baseball or basketball. So the the the intellect of and

(20:26):
then we sit here and preach howimportant it is to know mental football and
baseball and basketball. Yet, ifyou're a teacher in school, or a
teacher as a coach and you're leavingpeople behind, or a broadcaster at the
broadcaster, what's their number one gigentertain inform us, teach us. Wouldn't
you think that somebody turns on theTV and say, oh, now I

(20:48):
understand what he means by the willlinebacker. Some people don't. I mean,
I don't mean it mean. Butsome people along the way don't even
have coaches that will teach them howto identify who's the will. Well,
for people listening, will means weakside linebacker. It's pretty simple to talk
about on TV. And you wouldsave a lot of people from swimming in

(21:10):
and feeling there's feet are moving onehundred miles an hour under the water.
Right, it doesn't hurt. I'drather have somebody teach me than yell at
me. Yeah, it's like it'slike trying to teach someone that has no
idea what the wheel play is inbaseball. People don't average person probably doesn't
know what the wheeloy, what doyou mean cut off man? Yeah?
Hit the cutoff man? What doyou mean? Right, You're exactly right?

(21:32):
Hell speaking a wheel you tell somebody, hey man, he ran a
wheel route? Well, on TV, tells us what the wheel route is?
I know, do you? It'slike you don't have many go on
TV and say here, figure outpie in math class, and do we'd
all be are you talking? Youknow you have to go back to your
geometry. You explain it and teachit to some Football is trigonometry, so

(21:56):
make it simple for him. Yeah. If it's not simple, well guess
what's gonna happen. They're all gonnastruggle and get left behind. I don't
want to leave anybody behind when itcomes to the teaching part of it.
And that's what we're gonna do.We're gonna break down those will routes from
OTAs yesterday. That's what we're notgonna do. And we're gonna get that.
We don't have a play walker firedup. Yeah, we're gonna get
go go astros fired up times. My tea time about seven twenty, Yeah

(22:17):
it is, yeah, about anhour. Is it gonna rain on me
today? It was raining on mydrive in blows? Yeah, man,
storms came through. You got acaddy next week at the at the Live
Golf Tour for me? Yeah?Yeah, all the pro am huh yeah,
you want you want to carry thebag for a team. You break
me off a couple, I willif I shoot? Are you really walking
it? Oh? Yeah? Doyou need a caddy? Well? I

(22:40):
wasn't gonna ask you because you're kindof a you're kind of a stuffy guy.
You're kind of a ear, hearand entitled guy. Mister mister,
I I belong you to though. You remember the one time off there you
thought you'd be coaching and not JoeSpotta. Oh yeah right, I mean
you want to you want to toe? I will you want to toe my
back? Sean? Now, listen, I watched on the range this five

(23:00):
iron. You know a little adjustmentwith that top hand. I need you
to that back left, move thatthumb over. Yeah, a little happening
should just you know what you're greatused to happen in great job. Let's
let's work on your alignment on therange. Yeah you want carry? Yes,
you really do. Yeah, you'reyou're you're an ego maniac though that'll

(23:23):
get that will help. Kidding.I was gonna say, we would you
like to yes, Thursday Live GolfTour. You're my caddy? Yeah,
all right, I don't know,maybe Pat, maybe Rom. I don't
know John. But you know whatif Jay, if Rom wants to test
my distance, would he probably willwin? But I'll bet have one of

(23:48):
those days out of body experiences.I pump a sixty, said, Johnny,
how you doing sign that coorecard?Oh? Man, I know what
you're gonna you're gonna need, You'regonna need. Menst Clinics form that I

Mavericks beat the t Wolves. They'reheaded to face the Celtics in the NBA
Finals. Look at the pitching stafffor the Houston Astros over a four game
span against the Mariners, they gotfour quality starts. They threw a combined
twenty five innings, allowing five runs, fifteen hits, seven walks, and

(26:23):
thirty strikeouts. They pitched extremely well, and yet they only won one of
those games. Also, last eightgames, no complain about their pitching staff.
Another way, they've performed these lastfew games. Last eight games for

(26:44):
the Astros, seven quality starts, forty nine innings, thirty four hits,
thirteen runs, twelve of them beingearned, four homers, fourteen walks,
fifty five strikeouts, just a oneto ninety one batting average against the pitch
staff with a two point two zeroer A not too shabby. That's first

(27:06):
place. Er. That's first placepitching stuff right right. It really is
no complaint. So that was theirlast eight games. And if you look
at the Astros and where they arein the standings so across, let's see
the last uh, their last ten, they are four and six. So

(27:29):
I just read off all those statisticsand the quality starts the era, and
yet they're four and six in theirlast ten. They are five and a
half back of the Seattle Mariners inthe division. With how poorly the offense
has been, they are still onlyfive and a half back. Because this
AO West is not very good.Yeah, and gained the game yesterday.

(27:56):
If you went then you hadn't watchedthe game and you said, oh,
they're pitching that well, and youdidn't know what the record was the last
ten games, you'd say, oh, man, then were they eight and
two, nine and one? That'swhat you said, yeah, no doubt.
And then it strictly goes to thetimely hitting and pushing runs across the
plate, especially against good teams. You know you're not gonna win scoring five
runs the first three and scored ninein the series, which overall, that's

(28:18):
a little over you know what, two point two to two point three runs
a game, which won't be enoughagainst average teams. And now, listen,
people that can play in Seattle's pitchingcan shut down a lot of teams,
but you don't expect them to shutdown the Astros. Really, for
the most part, four straight games, but three in general or five runs

(28:38):
in three games at least four givesyou a chance, right, Two usually
doesn't, or one doesn't usually giveyou much of a chance against a good
team. But with the way they'vepitched, they've been able to stay in
those games and just couldn't close themout. Lesson learned it's obvious the bats
have to be more consistently productive. You look in this division. Let's look
at the Mariners five five in theirlast ten, Rangers four and six in

(29:02):
their last ten, Astros Oakland, and the Angels all four and six in
the last ten. This division,Man, it'll be a Dow Jones for
all year. Yeap injuries will comeinto play. The key is you can't
let long losing streaks fester. I'mtalking about if you're any team in the
division, because every team is capableof going on a run because of there's

(29:27):
bats like Texas and we know what, they can go six games where they
hang damn near double digit on you, and so can the Astros runs with
the potential of a lineup. Butthey realize they're in for a grind too.
And you know, they're still tryingto get their pitching staff one hundred
percent healthy. So we're going tosee how hungry they are after winning their

(29:48):
World Series. But I'm I'm completelyconvinced that this pitching staff right now that
the Astros are throwing out there givesyou a chance to win every night.
Yeah, And if I told youthat at the beginning of the year or
and said, oh, by theway, these four cats aren't going to
be pitching. You'd be like Sean, you are on crack and you're just
a homer and a rose colored glassesguy. Right, they've they've been really

(30:10):
good, and the younger fellows havestepped up, which has been really which
has been impressive, and the backends getting better. Presley, you know,
is I can't wait to see hisconsistency. And I was I don't
know if shocked was it? Ormaybe I shouldn't be surprised. Were you
surprised at all that that? DanaBrown admitted that maybe when I asked him

(30:30):
saying, does is Presley feel isit confidence or does he have a feeling
of he was demoted? And whenhe said, I'm sure he had a
feeling he was demoted to go fromcloser today and it's a fact. So
I wonder. I wonder how heovercomes that to sustain the consistency of it
and depending on what happens between nowand the All Star break? Is he
a name you'll hear mentioned, Imeaning the trade deadline? Am I shocked

(30:52):
that? He said it? No, because it's showing in his performance,
right, Yeah, but usually youknow, when you say demoded, usually
the big bosses don't well, youknow, walking through it and stuff,
and they say, maybe demote isnot the right word, right, you
know, something like that. Buthe just said it's not confidence, but
demoted could possibly be it, justlike Father Time when I'd mentioned father Time

(31:15):
about to brave you. Yeah,I don't think that the organization isn't a
looking a brain saying maybe father Timehas caught up. M hate to say
it, but it's just undefeated, man. We just try to delay it
as long as we can. Yeah, it's true. Yeah, it's but
father Time is undefeated, along witha few other things in life. I
know the two most undefeated things metoo, and father Time is wonderful.

(31:37):
Correct, you can one hundred percent. You could plug in whatever you decide
you want for the second one.Father Time hits a hundred for one hundred
pure does probably the second one aswell. Yeah, and maybe even be
more true than father Time. Probablyit probably it. Probably, there's no
doubt that that could be true.Actually, probably is true. That's true.

(31:59):
Bothretty much ruled the world. Yeah, tears powerful tears for fears.
Yeah, yeah, you know youknow they cut do you really? I'm
just saying, man, I've I'vedropped too, I've dropped a movie on
you drop Cameron Poe, okay, and that Conne wait to go back in

(32:20):
time. I just dropped Tears forFears on your ass. That's six forty
three. That's two really good oldschool references. I guess if you want
to go Connor being that old schoolfair, I guess it's not that old
school. But but you know what, who's cyrus the virus? Yeah?

(32:42):
Yeah, tripley? Do you knowyou have you seen Connor? No?
What is that? What about swampthing? Good? Good nicknames in that
movie? Really good movie? Yeah, really was. Guy just wants to
dance slow with his lady Sonny backin the box. Yeah. Next,
always whooping people's ass out in theparking lot. And now he's got a
whoop ass to get back out.Okay, whoop ass to get in,

(33:05):
wool ass to get out. Flyapologies. Paul's he's doing is protecting people,
Cameron Man. Yeah, so twogood references. Yeah, well you
know that's what we do here.Brownie button coming, what a brownie button
for it? Hear that? No? I got a I got an ice
honey button. Well, there's ashock brownie button isn't like a literal brownie,

(33:27):
is like a boy Scouts with hejust called the brown You know,
they get a button for doing thegood thing or saying something. I don't
think they're called boy Scouts anymore theydo. I think it's called like the
Scouts of America. Now, great, yeah, just another day. We
got to change. Great well man, great respect their pronouns. I'm awake,
all right, yeah, all right, let's get the break. We'll

(33:49):
continue to talk about the Astros andlet's look at the lineup from last night
and how Bregmann performed. Next insports Stalk seven to eighty, Sean Salisbury
Show continues the return of Carlos Koreatonight. You fired up? Yeah?
For the Astros. I hope Correastrikes out four times A hashtag pay the

(34:15):
man, Yeah, I mean,I don't mean it for the Astro's sake.
I hope Karrey doesn't come up bigand minute made park right. I
would like great to have him back. We've seen it now for two years.
That's great, it's awesome. Idon't need Korea getting on base or
doing any of that against the Astros. He can do whatever he wants once
he leaves the city, but no, I would like to control him.
Needless to say, a little housekeepingnote. We are about to get pounded

(34:40):
by a severe line of storms.I got news for your out driving around.
Be careful, I'm coming. I'mall about good weather. Yeah,
I'm all about when we need rain. I'm all about dealing with the heat
in the summer, especially if youhave like a a brigs and Stratton.
You damn right. What I'm notabout is the constant pounding of storms,

(35:07):
of thunder, lightning, flooding, and people being without and then doing that
and then turn around they don't havepower. It is starting to wear on
people, I would imagine, right, I think. So I got a
flashlight and a company I'm that I'mwith partner in that literally can change saving

(35:29):
lives when people are looking through difficulttimes and these I just figured i'd throw
that in there. I think I'vetold you about it. But when I
think about this stuff, I thinkwhen you're looking through and sifting through trying
to find stuff, the invention ofthis flashlight is dude, It's epic.
It's a different level. I knowyou said, come on, shot,
I promise you it just hit mebecause I've offered a coupleople who've been through
some difficult times to help them andwhen you're walking at night and the rest

(35:52):
of it and safe. It isoff the charts. But that's neither here
nor there. I figured I'd justthrow that in to get you, like,
maybe you need one. I probablyyou're caddying for me. That's a
gift, that's what that's in yourswag bag. There you the best part
about a golf tournament. Yeah,But on the on the other side of
that, I'm tired of this. They're not just storms, dude, No,

(36:14):
they're they're beating people up, Iknow, and it's harsh. I
was walking my dogs last night,as they do every single evening. You
need, you need out of nowhere. You need the flashlight? What light?
The flashlight version? Yeah, keepyou and your dog safe. Different.
I want to make sure you're safe. Feel me? Do you triple
you? Feel me? Right?Yeah? I'm this company off the charts,

(36:36):
but I just did. Hey,but i'd digre trip get your man.
But look at those I mean itlooks apparently it's ominous outside in certain
areas. What's so dark out there? Oh? Yeah, yeah, it
comes in quick too, and poundsin a loud and you're like July fourth
fireworks. Some people's dogs are miserable. It's getting old, man getting old

(36:59):
and people it's like it just keepscoming. And if this is storm season
like you mentioned in your commercial, buddy, and it's just getting started and
it's supposed to be and hurricane seasonstarts tomorrow, yeah, not good.
So preparation, proper preparation might preventuh, poor performance, right, but
it has nothing to do with yourperformance, has to do with real safety.
And I'm being honest about no.Man, say it's scary, be

(37:19):
pretty rough. We're suposed to getstorms all weekend long. So ye uh,
something that wasn't rough as the Astroswin yesterday, the squads and phone
lines in line five, line one. Let me ask you a question.
Astros win, and no one wantsto talk. Let me ask you why
is that line four? Okay, phone lines must not be word, phone

(37:42):
lines must be down. Let meask why it is? Because people like
to talk about negativity better than theydo positivity. Astros win. We won't.
We'll get three calls today, notthat we I mean this show,
this show. We got a lotof calls. You know, we can
tay in the four hours without onecall. I mean we love our call
because we like, we like totalk correct, We enjoyed it. We
love we love the engagement from ourfans obviously or from our listeners, should

(38:05):
I say, and we're fans ofthem. But it is true, and
I think it happens in every citywinning. It's like a cool talk to
me when Ari Geti gives up fourhome runs, it in anying, then
then then they're mad. Now letme ask you know why that is?
Though? What do you think isall your all your travels, travails,
will sports media, radio, TV, everything? Imagine this Jose of braw

(38:30):
situation. But in Boston or NewYork. I gotta tell you they could
win eight in a row, sevenin a row, and I guarantee you
those radio shows up there would probablyget nothing but calls on him. Well,
do you want want to operate fromnot just from a distance, from
what it was like experience during duringRed Sox, good football season, Super

(38:53):
Bowl Brady there, Belichick there,I'm hosting Morning Drive. They got a
text line. I'm tell you what, we got ten thousand texts in four
hours. You think I'm kidding andBrady at that times I got six Super
Bowl rings. Belichick, they're boththe best in the world. Yeah,
criticism, really, I promise you. I promise you, and I mean

(39:16):
think about it. They always haveBruins, always in the hunt. Yep,
Celtics always in the hunt, andchance to win it all this year.
I'm telling you, they lose Gameone in the finals, fans will
be fit to be tied. They'llbe beside themselves. And even if Tatum
hangs fifty on them and Jalen Browngoes forty eight and they got two guys
score ninety eight and they lose bya point. You don't want to answer

(39:40):
that phone call. And I lovetheir passion. Dot misunderstand, but that's
how it is. And so yougo Bruins, Celtics, Red Sox and
Patriots Patriots, and you think whosetown is it? The truth of the
matter, You know what the two'stown? It? Is it right now?
Of the four Patriots? Yeah, yeah, because they suck. But
it fluctuates one thay it's a Bobbyor Boston Bruins town. Then it's oh

(40:01):
my gosh, this is a thisis Bill Walton Celtics Larry Birdtown, and
then it's oh my gosh, it'sTom Brady, Bill Belichick. And now
football always eventually becomes king when you'rewinning, right, and in most of
these cities, and then you goto what am I missing the uh oh
the baseball, basketball, football, hockey, base Oh, the socks.

(40:21):
Yeah, and it's a big whenthere was socks and when it's big time
Red Sox town. But the critdude, it's crazy. I'm telling you,
for four straight out it's scrolled likeso you couldn't keep up with text
line. If you missed it,you had to go back a thousand texts
to keep up. And I waslaughing, saying, I've never seen anything
like this, but it's just theway it is. And when they're winning,
they're waiting for Okay, but whatif this happens? Right, you

(40:43):
were at eight in a row,it's like, well, what if we
lose the ninth? We got theteam and yeah, Buffalo's charging, But
it was I love their passion, but yeah, I think people more put
it in, more emotions gathered fromlosing than winning. Wow. Always,
And I think it exists in everycity, some just a little deeper than
others, right, and those arenut jobs up there. Well, the
city's got people that may have rootedfor the Cowboys that live here may root

(41:06):
for another team. You know, they root for the Lakers or something.
They don't live but there. They'vebeen there since they were drinking Irish whiskey
back in eighteen hundreds, right prohibition, right speak easy, and that they've
been root for their teams. It'snobody else. If you're an outsider,
so you can stay long, comein, grab a whiskey, get your
ass, get out of here.Unless you stay, you want to belong.

(41:29):
So it's craziness, man, butI love the passion. Let's get
into the seven o'clock hours, sevenone, three, two, five,
seven ninety the numbers to join. We'll look at the Astros win. And
how long will this Jose Bray youexperiment continue. That's next on Sports Talk
seven ninety. Do you like elitestuff or should I say being treated elite?
Not elite to where your noses inthe air, but treated elite.

(41:50):
So it doesn't matter what kind ofcar you're buying, what you're what you're
wearing when you walk in, howmuch money you make, you're treated elite
regardless. That's what it's supposed tobe. Elite customer service, elite pricing,

here. If they didn't have theinventory, they went off you. The
deal got the inventory elite. Ifthey didn't want the pricing, you wouldn't

(42:32):
be getting these. So when youtalk about zero percent interest on all twenty
twenty three and twenty twenty four Silveradofifteen hundreds, that great pickup truck,
you know what I'm talking about. And then the elite customer service exists no

(43:37):
Astros avoid this sweep Spencer. Araghattypitches well, it's his third win
of the season. Seven one, three, two, one two, five,
seven niney the number of the joints. Get out to the phone lines
talking stros Rob good morning, Goodmorning, gentle man, Rill good man.
Is it raining outside a little bit? Can y'all even hear me over

(44:00):
the pounding on my windshields? Yeah? We got you, but I can
definitely here in the background. Yeah, it's no fun, but uh,
I only got to drive from tomBall to South Houston, and you guys
sounded lonely, so I figured i'dcall in apreciate it up. Man.
So to uh to Shawn's question, you know, I think the reason that

(44:22):
you know, not a whole lotof callers are calling in on a day
like today, aside from the weatheritself, holding back because I'm hesitant to
call on days like this just becauseI seriously don't know if you guys will
be able to hear me or not. But I figured I'd give a shot
today. There was no There wasn'ta whole lot of excitement about last night's
win. I mean, it wasa win, but that's about the only
exciting thing about it. I personally, I call in when either they should

(44:45):
have won and they found a wayto screw it up, or they completely
blow out the other team, andthere's a lot of positives to talk about.
Last night, it wasn't a wholelot different than what they typically do.
That they basically won the home runlast night. They got one manufactured
run, which that was the firsttime. And however, long. Yeah.

(45:07):
The only thing that I can reallycontribute as far as a caller today,
and I'd like to get if youguys can dive into the information because
I can't do it obviously on theroad. I'm curious to see what during
that stretch our starters er was duringthat game, because I'm betting it was
pretty low. And that's still thebiggest negative that jumps out to me,

(45:28):
is that we're just not putting upruns for quality starts. It's always one
thing or another with the Astros. When they're hittings on, their pitchings off,
when their pitching's on, their hittingsoff, it's it's one or the
other. But I'm legit curious whatour starters e er was because over,
Rob, are you talking about overthe last ten games or just a Seattle
series, just this Seattle series inparticular. I got it right here,

(45:52):
Rob, Let's see two point twofour. I mean that's that right there.
That that should that should be Ano, that should be a sweet Think
about this too, Rob, thinkabout it. You mean to interrupt you
think about this? My man? They scored nine runs in four games.
That comes out to about two pointtwo three or four runs a game.

(46:12):
Right, It's weird, isn't it. They pitched well enough to win all
four. It's odd. Think aboutthat, that's all. That's two point
two two point two if he didthe real man, I mean, it's
a little over two point two runsa game. And that was a pitching
the staff cra as well against theSeattle Mariners on the road. Impressive.
Well, we can't. We can'thit our own pitchers, era, guys,

(46:35):
Right, that's not good. That'sexactly. Hey, just get me
to three twelve runs and you winthe series, right, if they're distributed
properly, right, craziness, man, I mean, if we're averaging two
and a half runs a game. The other funny thing about that is I
watched it. I don't know howclosely you guys watch the Empire scorecards,
but I to do put stake inthose. I try not to hold too

(46:58):
much blame over the Empires, butI do scorecards. I'm pretty sure most
of those games, if not allof them, the poor calls went gave
about a half a run on averageto the Mariners. So we get that
half a run back, and Iknow it's it's the whole human element.
But if we get that half arun back. Well, that's all the

(47:19):
difference right there, right. Thebottom line and the moral of the story,
Rob is pitching is good enough towin a ton of games, and
good enough you get that most ofthe time that pitching performance. You're sweeping
the series. Absolutely, you're sweeping. Most series are competitive this year.
Yep, no doubt. Brother.Appreciate the call. I have a great
weekend. Appreciate you as y'all too. Let's keep going on the phone lines

(47:42):
to talk to Alex. Alex, welcome in. What's going on with fellas?
How y'all doing good? Buddy? But I previous taller, I was
on the same plane as him. You'll sound lonely today. Man, it's
a Friday. I love fridays.Yeah, there's two basic white guys,
you know, just just really reallylonely in the studio. Man, stop
looking at Yeah, Alex say threebasic white guys beats two basic white guys.

(48:09):
There you go, No, man, But uh, what'd you think
last night? Yeah? What doyou take away from the series that either
that you like or that bothers you? Is it simple pitching and hitting good
and bad both ways? The thesimple hitting, just base hits, everywhere
that they were having last night werewas phenomenal to see. You know,

(48:30):
I don't need everybody to try andpower hit way into orbit, you know,
we don't need that. We justneed on base, move the runners
and keep it going. And theywere moving runners, but they just couldn't
get them around to the plate untilthey would have a ball leave the buildings.
Pitching, man, the pitchers inthe last two series alone have come

(48:52):
out like they're tired of losing. They're coming out throwing an absolute nightmare of
a game for other other teams. But I will say this, man,
I know last season, you know, when we had Maldonado and Diaz as
the backup, Diaz was playing likehe wanted that every day catching position,
and the script, the script isflipped and Karantini is playing out of his

(49:15):
mind right now when he is ina game and absolutely playing like he wants
to be that starting catcher. Andit's crazy to see how that works.
Like I've never understood that. Excuseme, yeah, excuse me. Uh
yeah. I would say, withthe Victor Krantini and jannyr Diaz thing,
I think you're going to continue tosee Astro fans probably gonna shift more towards

(49:40):
we want more Victor Carrottini. You'reI don't I don't think you're wrong,
but any means because after his fansas a whole did the same thing last
year. Yeah, with Maldonado andand DS. But I'm I'm still excited
about the season. It's baseball, man. You you either love the sporty
you hate the sport. There isno in between. And and I absolutely

(50:04):
love the sport. I love myassros. I'll always grew from my assros.
I'm excited to see where they goand what happens. And then one
final question for y'all. Brian,I know you don't keep up with the
NBA a whole lot, but SeanTripoli, who y'all thinks? Take in
the finals between Dallas and Boston,Man, y'all have a good day.
Be safe when you'll leave there drivingaround. Yeah, you guys, I

(50:27):
think that. Listen, this isgonna be in truth. This is about
as good as it gets when itcomes to what the West. I know
that we could have said. Listenwhen people say, well Denver's better,
Well Denver wasn't better. Minnesota beatthem and and Dallas man handled the Timberwolves.
The Dallas Mavericks are really frigging goodman, And they got two guys

(50:51):
at at any point in time, just like, here's what I love too,
and there's good Think about what Tatumand Jalen Brown and Luca and Kyrie
Irving can do if they all areon one night, You're you're talking about
guys that they'll score seventy percent ofthe points for both teams. I mean,
any one of those four can dominatethe game. The Eastern Conference MVP,
the and the East Conference Finals withJaylen Brown, right, And we've

(51:15):
seen Kyriees moments in Cleveland and otherplaces, and when you want to win
an NBA title, the knockdown shotshe was hitting with Lebron to win a
title, right, So we knowwhat he brings in big moments. And
Luca, this is his people beenwaiting for this, right for him to
be an NBA there's always that Okay, he's done this, but and doesn't
everybody begging for it? Now?Think about the four cats that it.

(51:36):
Kyrie's got his, but the otherthree Jalen Brown, where you're the star,
you're the leader in the expectation,Jalen Brown, Jason Tatum and Luka
Dantas. This is that next levelmoment for them. Listen, I'm gonna
say Dallas and seven, but I'mgoing to tell you what the team that
is that the pressure falls. Now, there's always pressure when two teams are

(51:57):
playing in a final. I lovethem. When he's well, there's more
pressure. Listen. You don't thinkLuca's going into this thinking I got this
heater and I'm smoking this grid.I gotta go score forty. We got
to win. But when you lookat the overall expectations of a team,
more of it falls on the BostonCeltics because people expect the Celtics. If
the Celtics come up short, theyare going to get friggin hammered. And

(52:19):
depending on the optics of it,I'm gonna take Dallas and seven. And
if you'd have told me that beforethese two series started in the Eastern and
Western Conference finals, I would havesaid, give me the Celtics in six
regardless, and if they play Minnesota, give me them in five. I
think this is going the distance becauseI think both teams have stars that are
not going to let you sweep themor lose for one right, Yeah,

(52:40):
I love this series. I don't. It's going to be a monster to
watch. And of course I'm goingto watch this now. Sometimes we miss
games in the middle of season. This is star powered. You play some
defense. They're swagger on both teams. I want to see which one doesn't
show up meaning star and which onesdo. These are star games. You

(53:00):
the superstars have to play well oryou don't. You don't win. And
I'm gonna tell you keep an eyeon who shoots free throws and who carelessly
turns the ball over. And bothof these teams aren't just going to live
by the three. They will takeyou to the rim and they will do
some The transition game is gonna behuge. I love this series. Give
me Dallas and seven. I thinkmost people are going to pick the Celtics

(53:22):
to win it, though I watcheda couple of the games over the last
couple of days. Between Dallas andand the Tea Will. I love Anthony.
He's a dynamic. Well, heis what John Morant was two years
ago as far as the dynamic, the way we feel about them, he
is becoming one of the faces ofthe league. And then with the Celtics,
I think with all the pressure thatthey've felt in the playoffs, meaning

(53:43):
everyone expects it to they like whenit when going against Luca and Kyrie.
As long as they stop the Mavericksfrom scoring more points than them, they
will win. That's unbelievable analysis byyou say that again, as long as
the Celtics stop the Mavericks from scoringmore points than them, they will win.

(54:05):
Let's go to break, man, let's get to the stakeout. Perimeter
defense is going to be huge inthis. So you're saying that if the
Celtics score more points than the Mavericks, yes, in the series, the
Celtics will win the series. Correcteach game? Yeah? Yeah, game
by game? What did you didyou that's a deep dive. All right.

(54:27):
That's analysis that you're not gonna findanywhere else. You know what.
That's analysis that the team that scoresmore points wins. Yes, that's analysis.
I'm going to tell you what thatis. Dude. You know what
that stands the test of time?Yeah, I know, I know,
man, I'm a gaze. Justget a gaze at your guys. That
prediction backwards, you can see howin the world did you come up with
this? Hour studying this analytics, the metrics of it everything last night.

(54:52):
Congratulations, thank you appreciate that.Tell everybody take us to break and tell
them one more time how this works. If the Celtics keep the Mavericks from
scoring more points than them, theywill win the NBA Finals. Let's go
to steak out next on sport Stockseven ninety change your loofah, Sponge monthly
great and right now listen to moreSean Salisbury. That's your job, man.

(55:15):
Don't you get paid for a protip from Houston's official Listen while scrubbing
your butto mornings sports show. Allright, Sean, what are you hearing
out there now? The Salisbury's takeout, Salisbury's takeouts on the Sean Salisbury Show.

(55:40):
Side for the steak out Here onthe Sean Salisbury Show, Sean Bryn
and Tripoli storms rolling through the cityof Houston. If you're out driving to
work, be careful. Pretty badout there, from what I understand.
Astros and Twins tonight seven to ten, first at six o'clock on Deck Show
right here on seven on your Homefor Astros Baseball. Let's get back out

(56:04):
to the phone line seven one threeorder of Longest Way. Let's talk with
Robert. Robert what's going on?Yeah? Long wait, I thought y'all
were lonely. Now I had towait for a long time. But while
I was waiting, I thought,do you guys realize what y'all do for
a living? Y'all get every singletalk? Yeah, I mean, I
mean, do you pinchers? Doyou get paid? You actually get paid?

(56:25):
Yes, we do what y'all do. And both of y'all, both
of y'all go out and coachy y'all, y'all living man y'all every morning,
and I appreciate it. I wasin y'all were talking about explaining, you
know, certain things in sports.I'm in New York and Brooklyn right now,
and I went to the I wentto a bar, just kind of
went in Rome and enjoyed all theI enjoyed the Rangers games with a bunch

(56:47):
of Rangers fans, and I setby a nice guy who explained hockey to
me last night. Excite ended uplosing, but it was a it was
a really sweet, really sweet experience. So ill to say, so,
yeah, Bray, you think Iwould not be a good gym at all,
because ever since last year. Ithink it was in Oakland when he

(57:13):
hit his first home run on theseason, or he ends up spreading around
the basis and he slides into nearthe dugout, and you can just see
what I saw there was how theteammates house teammates, just that you could
tell in that moment they loved theguy. And in that moment I just
fell in love with him, SoI wouldn't I'm cheering form, but I
understand it's not working out. Myquestion. This is a question, after

(57:37):
all, since it's kind of aslow day out that many dollars probably dum
question, do y'all think and beserious here? Do you think we would
have been better off just keeping youleague well? Robert the good question.
We were asked that last year duringjose Brayhugh's struck goal, and at that

(58:00):
point I looked up statistics from Julie'sstart the year prior, and he was
I'm sorry at the same time becausehe was with who Miami, right,
yeah, Miami, and his statisticswere worse than jose A Brah's at the
time, aging first baseman. Imean, I know the fandom for him,

(58:21):
right, But then also and that'sthe same way I was with Julie,
Like I get on these guys, and I just fall in love with
him, like I just I didn'twant you to leave and see that I'm
a guy I don't I don't.I don't know baseball as well as y'all.
And and so there were reasons thatyou know, he was declining,
and I just, Robert, Iwas going to say, I think you

(58:43):
make a good point. I think, considering what we've seen the last two
years at that position, that Juliewould have at least given you gold glove
style first base and you would havegot similar hitting and I think probably better
hitting, because the guy seemed withwith his his inner the way he was
clutch here for the most part. But I do think it was time to

(59:05):
move on, but not to this. So, yes, I think that
you'd have been better off with Julie. Hindsight's always that way. But here's
what I think. I think theyshould have moved on from Uli. And
I know it's hard because he's sucha favorite, with such a good player
and a clutch player here, butI think they should go in a different
I would be playing somebody completely differentat first base last year midway through the
season, whether it's a young guyor going out on the trade market and

(59:29):
finding somebody. I think what theyneeded to do when they went away from
uleiue go find the next budding staror big time player at first base,
whether it was a young guy outthere, get into the market for a
guy like Vlad Guerrero this year ora guy like low Berfido becomes your first
baseman every day. I would havegone a different direction because you went from

(59:49):
aging to aging. Two good playersin their time in their career, but
both their best baseball behind him.I think they made the wrong decision is
that they didn't go get somebody differentfrom U and jose A bra That's what
I think. Yeah, yeah,And just because I want to say this,
when I heard we got to haveJosea Brad, you, I'm jumping

(01:00:10):
up and down. I'm doing cartloadsdown the sidewalk. I'm so excited,
right, I was just as excitedas anybody. I don't pretend to think
that all this is hindsight looking back. I think the price tag at nineteen
or twenty million is what caught peopleoff guard to go get a guy that
was aging at that. So youmake a good point. I get it

(01:00:30):
too. I said, well,we're gonna upgrade at power and you didn't
get much upgrade and you lost aglove at first base. And real quick,
Robert, to answer your question,I've been doing this almost thirty years,
and there's not a day I takeit for granted. And I know
Brian does, he sow we frigginlove it, and I know it's considering
what our dads did for a livingand what people go through out there.
I damn, and you're gonna haveto drag me out of this profession because

(01:00:52):
I ain't going anywhere. But I'mtelling you there's not one day that I
don't think what a blessing week. And I've been that sincerely because i've seen,
uh, you know, the penthouseand the outhouse. I know it
will both look like. And Ilove this job and I'm grateful it's not
a job and we get to comeand talk to sports every day and laugh
with you guys. Yeah, soI'm grateful for it. I feel it.
I feel it for you, andI feel it from all y'all.

(01:01:14):
I mean, we all know y'allare writ in tripleze coktails, but that's
okay. Hey damn right, brother, Hey, we're not too proud to
be. I am. Hey,I appreciate y'all so much. You'll be
good than have a great weekend. But I appreciate it, and we don't
we talk about it during break alltime? Yah? Good, we got
it? Oh yeah, for sure. And you know then they let us
do our thing here, which isreally cool. Joe, you're up next.

(01:01:36):
Bird chirping in the background, Baby, good morning, Good morning,
Sean, Brian and Triple Man.I love it. But anyway, I
just had a couple of questions. One about your show. In fact,
I love your show. Watch Ilistened to y'all every morning, got to
get my asstros in. Uh y'all, y'all do a fantastic thank you.

(01:02:00):
I really enjoyed. I often wonderedwhy y'all don't Why are y'all not on
YouTube or quitch or something like that. Well, we can see y'all stay
tuned, brother, stay tuned fora couple of different reasons. Let us
let us work on that fair enough, Yes, sir, that would be
awesome. Appreciate that, my astro. My astro's question is there's a couple

(01:02:23):
of things, not that I don'tlike a spot. I think there is
something missing there. Of course,he's a rookie manager. He's got a
lot to learn. I know that. But the two things that drive me
crazy, and I think we couldhave won at least one of these games
if he would have done this.We had the runner, the ghost runner

(01:02:43):
at second base the night before last. Why does he not just bunt the
ball he had? You know,he could have pinch hit Chas McCormick,
he was on the bench. He'sa good bunner, or even hit the
ball to the right side of thefield. But no, they're just free
swinging up there. And we didn'tget the runner over in time before we

(01:03:04):
had two outs, and we didn'tscore the run. I don't see how
you can't score a run when they'regiving you a runner at second base.
Ninety nine percent of time we don'tscore. It's frustrating. But the other
thing that really gets me is theastros are not being selective at the play
enough to put pressure on the otherpicture to make him work more, especially

(01:03:31):
out to be And I love ourTV, but if you notice how many
times he swings in the first pitchinvariably if he don't hit a home runner
or get a hit, it's nineyeah, I say, seventy percent of
the time he's popping it up orgrounding it out or turning it over.
Make the picture work. You know, give him even if it is a

(01:03:52):
strike on the first pitch sometime, just you know, give it. Get
his pitch count up. And that'swhy I'll hang up and listen to that.
It's all I had to say thismorning. Appreciate, Thank you,
Joe, Thanks Buddy. Well,we'll get to that discussion next as we
got to get to break and we'lltalk about the pitch selection. On Sports
Talk seven ninety, the Shawn SalisburyShow continued back home at Minima Park tonight

(01:04:16):
against the Twins seven to ten,the first pitch six o'clock on Deck Show
right here on Sports Talk seven iey, your home for Astros Baseball. You
can also listen to us on thefree iHeartRadio app. Sean Salisbury, Brin
Limamanuel Elmore, Texans OTAs are onalong Mavericks beat. The t Wolves are
head of the to face the Celticsin the NBA Finals seven to one,

(01:04:39):
three, two point two five, seven ninety. Let's talk to Roger this
you guys, are you and Tripleboth are damning this? I know del
speed right. Love this cut.Roger, good morning, Good morning guys.
I'm calling from it said, Isaid, go George Memorial City area

(01:05:01):
and uh yes, coming down ispretty good where Zeus was liking both Just
prove over my my Chevy Trove radsare from Classic Related damn right. Roger
also, uh yeah, you getto talk to you guys. Sean,
Brian and adhesaived to glues it alltogether in Mississippi. Le uh So,

(01:05:25):
my thought on the Astros was lastnight they found a little offense, but
the pitching has really been solid.Man. I I come to I come
to realize that every time we actuallyBrave get a hit, I almost don't
want to see it him get ahit because I feel like every time he
does, it prolongs the inevitable andit makes these guys that are doing decisions

(01:05:45):
make him want to stay either longer, which we know it's and it's it's
just not gonna happen. So Ifeel bad in a way to feel to
take that way, to take negativelyit's gonna be a positive. But man,
at this point, I almost thinkthat that that what needs to happen,
like and not ever get a hit. I mean to make these guys
real, like what's going on?But like I said, it's it's gonna

(01:06:06):
struggle this year. You know we'rehere no matter what. But that's all
I have to say. Man,That's all I saw yesterday was just I
saw him getting hit and I waslike, oh no, prolonging and beable.
Need for that not to happen anyguys, Joe, don't I stay
sick this wee can't mess it up. My golf game, can't get no

(01:06:26):
work yet. You know what I'mtalking about? Do? I am dress?
I dressed for it today and apparentlyunless I like British open storms,
I ain't flaying, so there yougo. No, and I don't like
Clark Path only okay, I dolike lift cleaning place though. There you
go. Appreciate right, thank youmass Yeah, dude, look I mean
like my drip the Yeah, I'mready to damn ride. I'm sauce.

(01:06:50):
Not the way I should be,but the way the drip talked about.
There you go, And dude, how am I gonna here? My dude?
Okay, give me your now.Came about one hundred and ten yards
way. It's probably a sandy butas our guy Jesse. Well, so
what's your analysis? So yeah,I'm sitting in the middle ferry pins back
left. Okay, so we're eitherwe're going you might even approach wedge.

(01:07:13):
Got a little gap, A gap, A little gap, wedge gap Okay,
might be a little too, buta buck ten yeah, gapedge is
fine. That's just a nice smooth, nice smooth, soft soft swing.
Right, or we can go fiftysix. You might hump it up there,
all right, But then I butthen you have to what if a
chili dip you go chili dip alittle I ain't chili dipping. Well,
let me let me tell you something. You're let me turn to you.

(01:07:34):
We are on hole twelve right now, when you're a buck ten away,
get your mind right. Stop talkingabout what if? What if it goes
right? What if you haul outright? Okay, So this is what
we're gonna do. Pins back left. The average score on this is a
birdie. So we got this inthe bag. So it's a part five
shots. It's a three shot hole. Yeah, so you've done well so

(01:07:55):
far on this whole. Got thegap? Wey, We're going gap boys
because I want you nice easy right, okay, wins died down. Let's
go for it, because if youmake this in less shots than the guy
to your right and the guy toyour left, we're going to win the
hole. Now that's that that playsit does a dog will hunt. Yeah,

(01:08:16):
all right, there you go.That's incredible. And then I put
my little notepad back in my backpocket. Youangles out and put a pencil
in there, have absolutely nothing onit other than the other guys. Just
to give you a little Jesse reallywanted to make sure that you knew what
a great caddy is because your baseballanalysis of the team that scores more runs

(01:08:38):
usually wins. H Jesse said, that's groundbreaking analysis from Brian. What a
great caddy he'd make for you,Sean, just make it in the hole
and less shot than the other guysand you'll win. That's it. Yeah.
Thanks at Jay Wells two thousand andone on foott Cowen, Fanny Sunnison
back in the day for Nick Faldough. You get all these great caddies,

(01:09:00):
Steve what was talker Wood's caddy,Steve Stevie, No whit he said,
it's uh, Steve Williamsy Stevie Williams. And then you got Michaelson's long time
caddy. You know, uh bonestells you to do. You think that's
when they gave man, just getit in less shots. I would imagine

(01:09:23):
that would make somebody laugh at somepoint in time. We're like, okay,
thanks for the gradings. Then knockit close, right, put it
in the damn hole, John, get it within five feet and then throw
the birdie putt in there. I'djust soon make an eagle and knock it
in the hole from the pretty simpleman. What a caddy? I know,

(01:09:44):
what a caddy. But Roger's right, this cut in. I want
everybody to be safe. But dude, I was. I mean I got
to gear up. I got Igotta get my my swing down less than
a week away. Yeah, Igot to gear up. I mean preparing
for a major. Yeah, wellyou can do it on Thursday. Yeah,
because they lived to our place threedays Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
The don't play four rounds and shortsare allowed, which is not the PGA

(01:10:08):
to which is a good thing.Yeah, shorts, but the players will
be in shorts, which is nice. It's gonna be you know, you're
gonna be hauling that bag. Dog, I'll make it. It'll make it
as empty as possible other than theclubs and some golf balls. That'd be
that'd be ideal. Yep. I'llbe wearing good shoes though, yeah,
nice, the low seas, thecloud cloud No, no, no,

(01:10:31):
we'll go New Balance. Yeah, probably be foot joy in it, a
lot of Travis Matthew gear. Don'ttalk right there, Leave years alone,
and I know what You'll be wearing, Kobe Stevens. I will, I'll
be in Travis Matthew and endorsements willbe flowing. You'll be wearing Kobe Stevens
at Kobe Stevens dot com. Checkout Travis Matthew. Travis Matthew. You
just endorse Sean Yeah, oh yeah. Oh let's see what Rogers spoke about

(01:10:57):
jose Bray. You look, we'reat that point where people are rooting for
him not to get a hit. What he gets, Oh no, he's
gonna be here another game at least. I Rogers honesty. I think Roger.
I don't think Roger's alone, whichis a bummer because you don't want
to think like it. No,but how has it gotten even to this
point nineteen and a half? Brother, I'll tell you. I said,
you can't run that that that's man, it's there's a light at the end

(01:11:21):
of that tunnel. They see it. Well, yeah, Dana Brown spoke
about it and he said, we'reaware of it. Yes, yep,
gotta be. I mean, whathow long is it gonna take? Let's
discuss that. Next to Sports Talkseven ninety We want to win. Sean
Salisbury continues on seven ninety twins inin uh Houston tonight against the Actional seven

(01:11:43):
ten. The first pitch six o'clockon deck show right here on seven ninety
You're home for Astros baseball. Guesswhat it won't be rained out to luxury
have in an indoor facility if youneed it, or a retractable roof.
They do have a roof now, depending on the weather, could blow safe
there there you go, drive safely. Rain has been known to blow in

(01:12:04):
two minute may park. Probably haveto keep it shut all day day.
Is supposed rain this evening too.I don't know. I can't really will
be in Houston, brother, itrains all the time. We do live
in Houston. Yep, that saysno. It says it's supposed to stop
at noon. You buying it,probably not Okay, probably not. Yeah,

(01:12:27):
I mean, right now we arecurrently in a severe thunderstorm warning.
Until it's been all too familiar withthe last month or so, you're getting
sixty five on hour win gus asof this morning. Careful out there driving
around seven one three, five sevenniney the number to join SENA Welcome in.
Hi, Good morning guys. Hopeeverybody is staying safe out there this

(01:12:48):
morning. Call and name response tothe last uh last caller. I feel
like a lot of Houston fans are, you know, in agreement with his
thoughts. Every time a Braid getsa hit, it's just kind of prolonging
this experiment that most of us franklydon't expect to succeed. But one thing

(01:13:09):
I try to keep in mind whileI'm watching is that, you know,
I know people don't like to hearabout the money, but when we cut
ties, if we cut ties witha Brave, we're still paying him.
Now, while Singleton has been betterthan I expected, I don't think he's
going to be our guy. Idon't think Houston that they're going to be
complacent with that, and I thinkthey're going to be at least looking around

(01:13:32):
for another starting first baseman, whichis going to take more resources and more
money, and that's possibly money awayfrom contract extensions for Bragman. Tucker.
I think Furlander has an option nextyear or two, so that's resources that
we need to go elsewhere. SoI keep that in mind every time I
see a break come up, andyou know that I want this to succeed.

(01:13:55):
I want him to some kind ofgrind through this and make it work.
That we can make the work andrecapture some of that twenty twenty great
stuff. She and is she cutout at the last part. She said,
recapture, make it work, recapturesome of that twenty twenty heard the
rest of it great stuff? SheI agree, one hundred percent. Here's
what I think. I don't believeyou're starting first baseman in twenty twenty fives

(01:14:16):
on the roster. Now understand it'sa little profito on this roster. No
right, I'm talking about Big Leeroster. I don't know if it's going
to be him, but you're startingfirst baseman and we open the twenty twenty
five season. In my opinion, and it may even be in twenty twenty
four, will not be a brayyou and will not be John Singleton.

(01:14:36):
I'm not saying one of them likeSingleton may won't be on the roster.
He may very well be. Idon't believe. I think if you want
to get I like what listen, who doesn't like Singleton's story and comeback?
Who doesn't want to root for itin him to have play five more years
for the Astros and have and dogreat things. And the truth is,

(01:14:57):
I'm sure people root for a brayyou to do great things. It's just
his father times catching up to him, and he said, when you've got
an MVP in your back pocket, you never have to apologize to anybody.
He just sometimes just not the otherguy's better, right. I don't believe
that the starting first baseman. I'mnot sure the starting first baseman's on the
roster right now in twenty twenty four, no, the rest of the year.

(01:15:19):
But the guy who's going to startat first base for them next year
is not on this roster, thebig league roster as we speak. Jose
Obrayu. Since returning from West PalmBeach and then getting a little bit of
run in Triple A, he's playedin three games, all against Seattle.
He is two for ten, nowalks, one RBI, five strikeouts.

(01:15:43):
It is probably if you were goingto run him back like you did,
probably not the team you wanted tosee him against, if you were trying
to build confidence in that speed andget him back to where he wants because
they faced four really good pitchers.I think it is. I think it
is purely mismanagement to bring him backto face Seattle. I understand he's a

(01:16:06):
pro and you got to do it, but to where the reason you sent
him down was the very reason youshould not have played him in this series.
So and also a big thing that'sbeen made about his struggles is the
mental side of it. So you'regoing to bring him back to face one
of the best pitching staffs in baseball, all because Jeff Bagwell said he's had
some good at bats down in theComplex League and Triple A. Even though

(01:16:28):
at bats weren't that good in TripleA. Kirby wasn't pitching down in Westboo.
No, that is I understand, like you said, I understand that
he is a big leaguer and youhave to face pitching like that, But
when you are struggling mentally and strugglingmightily like he has, been. It
is unfair to him to bring himback and rush him back in this situation.
So it's also unfair to eight otherguys at start that as well.

(01:16:48):
They absolutely trying to be at yourthought. And like I said, when
you say it people you don't likehim, I'm sure he's a hell of
a guy as a player, He'snot even average. Right now, I
go back to what we discussed lastweek. What is the freaking rush?
Why? Why did you bring himback so quick? Yeah? Your starting

(01:17:09):
first baseman maybe the second half oftwenty twenty four. And as much as
I love John Singleton's comeback, aguy who can play one hundred and fifty
five games or so, there isnot on this roster when for definitely in
twenty twenty five, which every listen, if you want to get to where
you want to go, that positionhas got to be more productive and supply

(01:17:30):
more power. And I'm just gonnatell you, I'm gonna say it loud.
And I know that this cuts intowell, if we do that,
how do you play Bregman or Tucker? I don't know, work it out.
Tucker's has still got a year afterthis. Work it out with Bregman.
I don't know, but I cantell you this. If Lad Guerrero
is trade bait for Toronto, youbetter jump into that fray. You have

(01:17:50):
to. Even though his power numbersare not there, they'll increase. This
is Lad Guerrero is not five homerun guy or six home run whatever he's
got. Flad Girl is different thanthat. If you're gonna tell me,
well, Bregman's gonna come around,and Bregman's a guy, he's a grinder,
you better tell me the same thingabout Guerrerol because his numbers have always
been at the beginning of the area. If I named five guys in the

(01:18:11):
American League whose name's always at theMVP, talk Vlad Guerrero Junior. So
if he comes up and you wanta dominant player at the position, you
have to. I don't know whatit's gonna take, but you have to
jump into that. You absolutely haveto. You just do. And so,
whether it is or not starting firstbasement is not on this twenty five
man roster as we speak in twentytwenty five, and I'm not sure it

(01:18:32):
will be after. If they hangaround and you want something to get you
over the top, that may bethe very position you have to go get
The question is what will it taketo get him? Yeah, let's let's
let's continue this discussion as we getinto the eight o'clock hour right here on
Sports Talk seven ninety spray, Okay, let's do this. Sean Salisbury US

(01:18:59):
true longtime friends shown Salisbury, DryanLon Lima, go Lobo. This is
the Sean Seals very show in thispitching staff. The last four games has
been lights out and they're gonna needmore runs as it goes on. But
tremendous performance in Arigety. Look likea guy that's here to stay. Mavericks

(01:19:20):
take on Celtics in the NBA Finals, So while the Celtics were getting rest,
the MAVs just needed one extra gameto complete that series, so they
will move on for the NBA Finals. It should be one hell of a
finals. Minnesota Twins in town asthey start this weekend series here in Houston,
and it's going to take more thanan average about two point two runs

(01:19:42):
a game. You can't expect astarting pitching staff to continue to do what
they do the way they did itin Seattle. And but man were they
good. That's not the issue rightnow. Got to score more runs.
Let's get out to biscuit. Biscuit, welcome in men, be safe out
there. How are you doing ona Friday? Brother? Oh man,
it's Friday? The party trap. What's happening? Yes? Third man?

(01:20:03):
Uh? First, before I getto my NBA talk man, And one
of the things sounds there's always beenin my mind, especially when you're talking
about the manager for the Astros,is it just seemed like some of the
calls of being made ain't being madeby him, you know. And that's

(01:20:24):
that's uh, you know, that'sa concerning thing. I think. Uh,
that may be the reason why hemay have got the job, you
know what I mean. And so, uh, there's no doubt that last
year it was some friction between Dustyand the GM, and GM wanted to
go one way in Dusty's I'm runningthis show man, They're gonna tell me
what you know, it seemed likeit's opted this year if they want.

(01:20:45):
And in the example you give islike li Lima said, Man, why
in the world would you bring thisdude back so quick? Man? It
gets like to say, that's oneof the best picnics to ask in the
league them, I mean, Andwhen I say begging for them not to
do this. What was the rushyour health unless unless it's come from I

(01:21:09):
just can't imagine the manager like, yeah, man, let's rush him out
there. Yeah, let's do itagainst Seattle, not double a pitching.
Let's do it against Seattle where theygot a staff that's one of the best
in baseball and and hope he cancatch up to pitches there on the road,
against one of the best staffs inleague. Yeah, they could have
waited four days, right, itcould have waited. That's that seems like

(01:21:29):
management issue there. That seemed like, hey man, we need to get
him out there, and he's like, oh, okay, you know,
whereas it would have been Dusty.I don't think they would have went down
like that. I think Dusty beenlike, no, man, let's let's
let's pump the brakes. And soI don't know, and and then you
know, Sean, there's no doubtgetting real quick more resistance from Dusty than
what you're getting from a rookie manager. There is no doubt that. Yes,

(01:21:53):
and and and it's a it's ait's a trickle down type of thing.
Donny. You could correct me ifI'm wrong. But the players they
look different at a manager or coachjust look like he being run by somebody
else, you know what I mean. Whereas if you the man, I'll
come to you and say something,You say something and it's gonna happen.
Whereas if you got to go letcheck with somebody or something, you know

(01:22:13):
what I mean. It just itjust sets a bad tone for the manager,
Biscuit. You know what players inmy from my past experiences, and
not that it exists here. Idon't know where it exists, but their
thought process is they want major separationand protection from their manager, as opposed
to if it's a suit or agolf shirt upstairs, once you go up

(01:22:35):
the stairs, and if you're thinkingif something upstairs is controlling something downstairs,
players do not like that. Theywant to know. They want to know,
and even if you're wrong, theywant to know that you're making those
decisions right. Premiums for guests, and that's a I agree to get into
the finals time. Man. Ijust I don't trust the Celtics, and

(01:22:59):
I get it. I think it'sgoing a long ways. I think that
both you know the stars and they'regood teams. But to me, if
it's a shorter series, Mavericks winit, but I think I got Mavericks
in seven. But if it doesshorten, that is going to tell me
that the Mavericks are a better team. And I understand your trust levels right
now with the Celtics, and thebattle test is much more difficult in the

(01:23:21):
West than it was in the Eastin these last couple of series, no
question, I mean Boston, Iwas just freaking my brain trying to think
of an easier ride to the finalsthan what Folston has had. And so
now you're talking about talking about awhole different animal with Lukea and Kyrie Man.
And then I'm trying to see AlHolfer trying to protect the lib with

(01:23:44):
these young fellows jumping out the gym, and you got the old man can't
get off the ground. I loveI love Al Horford's career, but that
that you might be able to slidea piece of paper under his vertical leap,
you know what I'm saying. Otherthan that, I mean, and
he's a grinder and I love him, but we're talking about a whole different
energy and playing above the rim levelthat they're about to face. There's no

(01:24:05):
question, and those two stars weknow what Kyrie Irving's resume says in big
moments, We've seen it, andthis may very well be Luca's moment.
Heck on TV, they're saying,is he the best player in the NBA.
I know he's the best scorer thisyear, but it's a time for
him to get out of being ascore like we always looked at Carmelo Anthony
right, great score, get ashot everywhere, and to be the guy

(01:24:25):
who's taken his team to that levelof load him up and go. But
they got two that can do it. The question is will Tatum and Jalen
Brown match that energy. I'm anxiousto see it. I think the only
thing for Boston if they're gonna win, then it's gonna be through Holliday and
Derek White. Yes, it's gonnahave to slow Kyrie and look at that.
I don't know if they can doit, have my doubts about it,

(01:24:49):
but hopefully we'll get some good, best games. And think about this,
They've got three guys and you mentionedWhite and Holiday, and you add
Jalen Brown. The advantage they dohave is they're great perimeter defenders, you
know, and on on and offthe ball. Defenders Boston has that they
have that. The question is,hey, good offense. These guys can

(01:25:12):
find shots anywhere, yes, yes, in the world, and Luca something
that that's exactly different. That's it. They're breathing different air than than the
rest of them. You're exactly right. So I'm anxious to see in the
NBA in this if defense wins championshipsand great perimeter defense, or if those
superstars that can get their shot wheneverthey want it and you're dealing. You're
exactly right with a different breed. When you talk about these two caps with

(01:25:36):
Dallas, I got Dallas in sevenmaybe six when I'm taking the Mavericks and
seven, because I just think thatthey're a little more battle tested this year,
and I think they're just a moreconsistent basketball club in the postseason.
And they they've they've they've been challengeda little better until Minnesota came along,
the path has been easier for Bostonto get there, no doubt. And
we'll see if fresh legs matter tothem, right MAVs and Sick. There

(01:26:00):
you go. That's exactly what TRIPLEIsaid. There you go. I like
it. Biscuit, Thanks man.Be safe out there, brother, We
appreciate you and should be a funone to watch. Thanks seven, one,
three, two and two five seven. Its keep going on the phone
lines. What's up, John, what's happening? Forty five seconds? Let's
go, let's go, man,Boston is seven because Dallas sucks? Is

(01:26:24):
that a you don't like the teamor you just say they suck because you
don't like the peepsyllas? There yougo here anything with Dallas on the name
of the Cowboys, Stars, Mavericks, punk As, Rangers, all of
them. Man, look here, man, I bray you yesterday. Man,

(01:26:44):
you ain't gonna believe this. Whenhe got that hit and whatever it
was, which was you know, active god in the seventh eighthen and he
come up lame. We all startedcheering, Oh my god, he's lame.
Thank god, he's going back downto single a baseball. When he
come aroun on first base, hecame up gimp a little bit. I
don't know if y'all saw it ornot, which y'all probably didn't, but

(01:27:05):
he come up gimp when he comeout of the batter's box, which is
you know, I think it was. Oh man, I tore a muscle
because I finally hit the ball andhave to run. But uh, you
know, we were all sitting theretalking how does a player get sent down
to West Palm Beach or wherever hegot sent to and doesn't have to go

(01:27:28):
to Corpus CHRISTI Sugarland for a periodof time, Justin Verlander, who's a
Hall of Famer and a sy Youngwinner, when he had injuries and everybody
else has had to go through thesethese issues. I know he wasn't injured,
but you know, I still thisis my theory. Dusty Baker left

(01:27:49):
because of Dana Brown. Because DanaBrown wants full control to run this team,
not just being the GM. Hewants to be the on field j
on field manager. Man, Ithink you're it's a little misplaced, John.
I think you might want to lookat somebody else in the front office,
not Dana Brown. Really, yeah, I think I don't even think

(01:28:10):
Dana Brown's got full of Dana isthe first time GM wants to do this
the right way. I think Iagree, I believe. Well, then,
what's to deal with? Why whypray you? Why why do you
put he's talking about as well?John, you gotta you gotta remember who

(01:28:31):
who was acting as part of theGM groups on Jeff Bagwell, Dana Brown,
John Dana Brown wasn't here when whenwhen Rafael Montero and Jose Brady were
signed. Who had a hand inthat? Who had a hand in that?
I get that, asked Brad Bagwell. I get it, And I
know the people are gonna call him. They're gonna bash because, oh Bagwell,

(01:28:53):
No, I don't think so,man, that that that legacy is
getting tarnished. Man a bit,he's damn idiot. Because this is my
point, man that if that's thecase, then damn it, Craney's to
step in. I mean, thiscat's at a one on one average.
Singleton is not a player that cancome off the bench and pitch hit.

(01:29:16):
He was doing better, and wewere doing better when we had someone at
first base that knew what the hellthey were doing. They need to put
their big big boy pants on,strap up their belt, have some cahonies
and tell this ponytail wearing idiot goKey to sit his ass on the bitch.

(01:29:40):
He's just the city. It's dude, y'all think this team is got
to pull it out. And somecat called earlier this week, oh our
pitchings, find our pitching sucks.Whoa whoa, whoa whoa the last four
of the last season. I know, damn well, you've seen the last
eight or ten eight games. Now, what do you have against a ponytail?

(01:30:02):
It's just, dude, they're notgonna get us. The pitching where
we have too many injuries. Wedon't know what these players are going to
do. And Dana Brown's that you'retalking about arkty ar Katy's done the other
day when you interview and I thinkit was the other day. Didn't he
on the other day when you interviewedin Charlo on the show Wednesday, didn't

(01:30:24):
he say something about, oh,ARKI is gonna be fine. I think
he was concerned about it. He'swell, the hope was there, but
he really worried. The longer thisdecision takes for us to hear what that
what happened, the more it tellsme you're not gonna see much from Rkidi
or Javier anytime soon, or Garcia, ar McCullers or France. I mean,

(01:30:45):
but the pitching staff's been lights outfor about ten games. Man,
they've been pitching. Well, gotValdez, who who is now pulling a
No. I don't like what you'retelling me on the mount. So I'm
just gonna go a different route.I'm gonna just start serving up snow cones.
You don't know what picture you're gonnaget with him on a day to

(01:31:06):
day basis, on every five dayrotation. I mean, you know,
I mean this a spot of needsto he needs. Man, he better
start throwing some chairs up against somewalls or something. Man or this day,
I'm still saying it. And ifI'm wrong, I will be the

(01:31:26):
first one to call in and sayI was wrong. But man, they
need to have a come to Jesusmeeting in that locker room. Okay.
So what they won yesterday, Fordor nothing? You know? Okay,
And I'll say this now. Thecat yesterday that was pitching. I keep
forgetting this Spencer, Eric Getty. He is coming along nicely ever since he

(01:31:53):
got was rocked in New York onhis debut. This gentleman has for this
show man has come along and hassettled down and I he's he's doing a
lot lot better. But this willbreak you crap. Man, this has
got to stop and they gotta putLike Sean said earlier, Singleton's not here

(01:32:14):
for the long haul. He's notour future, but damn it, we
were doing better when he was inthe lineup. And if they these guys
have got to see this, becausewe're just fans, they gotta see this.
And why they keep putting that idiotout there? May I don't know.
All right, John, we gotwe gotta get. We gotta get
to break. Brother. Appreciate andj appreciate your brother. Thank you,

(01:32:36):
be safe. Let's get to break. We'll continue to take your call.
Seven one, three five, sevenninety is the number. Join got a
couple of guys and want to getin on the astros and Jose Abras will
take those calls and discuss it nextright here on Sports Talk seven ninety.

a Sewn Salisbury Show. Let's getback out to the phone line talking astros
here on the Sean Salisbury Show withSean Bryan and Triple Lee seven seven.
I need to order the longest wait. It's doctor Ray. Good morning,

(01:34:05):
Ray, good morning. Uh you'reyou guys are missing something about this whole
Joseah Brave. They want to beright, they don't want to be proven
wrong. That's the whole reason whythey rush this. They want him to
They want to be right. Notso much that he's good enough to still

(01:34:26):
play, but they just want tobe right. It's like someone in a
company coming up with an idea. They say no, and then months later
the upper management's like, oh,well, we're going to do this,
and it was the same idea threeor four months down the road or three
or four months ago. I'll listento your comments, but I think they
just want to be proven right andunfortunately Ray and I don't think you're far

(01:34:46):
off with that. I think theywant to validate the commitment they made to
him. Hence why they throw himin, and that's why they send to
West Palm. They were going tosee this experiment through. The problem is
is they're not going to be right. And well you were in the NFL.
Uh huh uh. You know, you know, an emotional attachment to
a player is huge. Oh yeah, there's no When you're loyal to a

(01:35:11):
fault, it can It can causemore trouble than being loyal. There's then
being or being when I say disloyal, or just making a decision based on
the facts and what you see andthey're not going to be right in this
because turning this around, he'd haveto hit what for twenty the rest of
the year and driving right, it'dbe great. But you're exactly right.
I think they want to prove thatfact. And if they did, we'll

(01:35:32):
stand up and cheer. That'd begreat, no problem. If he started
hitting four twenty, I'd start suspectinghim of well juicing, yeah, and
that's not going to happen. Iwouldn't think at this stage of his career
because the money's guaranteed. It's notlike he has to get stronger to keep
the money, and there's no bigcontract waiting form after this, And like
I said, good for him, you're worth what you can negotiate. The

(01:35:54):
problem is the salary hasn't matched theproduction and if that's what they're waiting for,
Ray and thanks for the I don'tdisagree with you at all. We've
kind of even said it when Isaid they got to validate why you send
him down. You want it towork, and I think everybody would love
it to work if he was Rakeand he's still not gonna be starting first
base. I wouldn't think after theall trade deadline and not in twenty twenty

(01:36:15):
five. But regardless that if lovingyou is wrong, I don't want to
be right right because we're in thislove together. Yes, but do you
disagree with Ray that they want tosee it through and want to be right
on this. Of course they do. That's part of the reason they brought
it. You want to validate thatit was a good decision, or why
else would you be running him outthere. I just don't understand why you
couldn't have given him like a weekin Double A, a week in Triple

(01:36:36):
A and then brought him back againsta lesser team. You could have That's
my I could have. And thenalso another point to it is when you
when you go to a Big leaguerand you tell him he's getting sent down
to West Palm Beach, which isthe Complex League, and you also say,
hey, but before you go there, take a couple of days off
and go hang out with your familyand your kids. That shows me that

(01:37:00):
this man is struggling beyond mechanics anduh mechanics and batspeed batpath Well, that
shows me he's struggling with the mentalside of the game. Okay, so
when you're hitting one hundred, wouldn'tyou. Oh yeah, what do you
need to clear mind? So theanswer was to bringing back against the Seattle
Mariner nasty pitching staff, Wasn't heset him up fa failure? Am My

(01:37:28):
far off from that? Like?Is that like a crazy take? I
understand that he's a big leager andyou got to face that type of pitching
regardless, but face it in seriestwo or three now the first one back?
Right? Yeah, I get it. I mean if you want to
build confidence, he's put the ballon a tee for a guy. Oh
you know what didn't we hear aboutJake Myers in spring training and how they
wanted to continue to bode confidence inhim and say, hey, you're our
guy. You're a center fielder. You're a center fielder. Confidence, confidence,

(01:37:51):
confidence, and they're that guy believedin ja Yeah, and they've seen
it through and he's your starting centerfielder. So if you were doing things
to help his mental side, Ifeel like putting Jose bray you directly right
back into the lineup was not fairto him. It was not fair to
John Singleton quite frankly, and theand the UH and the lineup would agreeinety,

(01:38:15):
Dwayne, you're up, Hey,guys, do you hear me?
Yep? Okay, uh yeah, good show. I love you guys every
morning. First, first on calling, thank you, okay. I want
to talk about analytics. Uh,the way that this team seemed to operate
before they were they were they weretalking nice, right and I mean hell

(01:38:38):
we had, uh whether or notsomething a lawsuit going on where somebody hacked
our system and try to Lewis.Hey, hey, Dwayne, Dwayne,
give us a shout back. Wewant to hear your point, but you
sound like a robot. Give usa shot back. Please. Let's go
over to hockey and talk to ClayPlay. Good morning, Hey morning guys,
great stuff. As always, I'mwant to preference my comments by saying

(01:39:01):
I spent a lot of time inmy car and I listened to a lot
of radio and podcasts in seven toninety from six am to six pm.
You guys lineup is the best outthere. Thank you guys. You know
you guys that make my day,you know, much easier to tolerate and
keep it coming because you guys aredoing a great, fantastic job. Appreciate
that. Clay, thank you, thank you. No, not about the

(01:39:26):
astros go I don't prove me becauseI'm a longtime Cowboys fan, so and
I'm not comparing the Cowboys to theAstros in any any way, because the
Astros are giving us thirty years ofthe you know, or excuse me,
a decade or the best baseball ofprobably any team in twenty five thirty years.
But the similarity I see this yearis the Cowboys. Their their pattern

(01:39:48):
is to stop, beat up andbeat the snot out of week teams and
then you know, just get dominatedby the good teams San Francisco, you
know, just I can go onand on the ten years with this is
what they've done. But the Astterroos, to me, I see a lot
of similarities in them this year becauseeverybody, you know, it's always the

(01:40:10):
Rosters, so talented, they onpaper, they can beat anybody, but
they're getting stamped by good teams thisyear as well, the Royals, the
Mariners, the Yankee, the Braves. I would imagine they're winning percentage against
the good teams has got to betwenty percent or even worse. And you
can't you can't compete if you evenyou know, if you just I guess

(01:40:31):
you know, you don't you wina few games against the bad teams,
but you just can't beat a goodteam. And I see, I think,
and especially when you have the twoof the worst corner infielders in baseball.
But I'm pessimistic. I don't seeI see eighty to eighty five losses.
If anybody can convince me otherwise. But the way that they're, you

(01:40:53):
know, performing against the good teams, to me, that's just a you
know, that's just a recipe forthis after It's a great point, Clay.
I think that the corner into theguy at third, that corner infielder
tells me he's that he's a hellof a player. His performance this year
and he homeward yesterday last night, well yesterday afternoon, his performance this year

(01:41:15):
tells you if you're if you've neverseen Bregman, I'm with you. I
know you have, Clay, butthat that yeah, that it's that it's
a weakness so far this year. And I would fully expect that position to
come around quicker than first base.I don't expect first base to be a
dominant position at all unless there's atrade you get a guy like vlad Guro
Junior. I think Bregman can pickthis up. He's proven he can,

(01:41:39):
but twenty twenty four may be different, and you're you're spot on there,
but I'm going to tell you, judging from what you've seen and what we've
seen this year, it looks likean eighty loss team. Am I correct?
Wrong? I mean, I'm Clay'sthe one who's correct, just validating
what he said. I mean wecan say here say no way, no
way, it's our astros and Iget it. But performance and you it

(01:42:01):
goes back, Brian, I know, I say it all the time.
In golf terms, they are notpar in the par threes. No a
two hundred and forty yard par threeand a major. It's tough, right
But if you're gonna win the tournamentand you're Xander Schaffley, what do you
gotta do? You had a birdiethe par three, so bertie, the
par five's and par the part thetough because two hundred and forty yards from

(01:42:23):
an into the wind is hard toget it close to make bertie. If
you make par, that's a win. Right now. You can reach it
in too, and you make paron a par five, you finish in
second place or third place, youor worse. You just don't. You're
not even the hunt. So youhave to burdy the ones you're supposed the
ones you're supposed to dominate. Yougotta Birdie in the Oakland A's you cannot.

(01:42:46):
You got a par the par threes, and you know what a par
three would have been in this one, splitting the series. Yep, keeping
you alive. Now you're Birdie ofpar three and you're Bertie in the par
fives. Guess what you're doing winningmajors. And that's what they're not doing
now. They have got to startto play back up to really good competition
this year, which they haven't doneconsistently. And they are under five hundred

(01:43:06):
against good teams, yes, fiveand twelve in one run ball games this
season. There's that fact as well. And the first three of them won
one ball run game run one game, yeah, one run games against games.
Yeah that too. Good morning, thank you and good morning, good

(01:43:27):
morning, yeah exactly, say goodmorning, good afternoon, good night.
That's what Spencer Araghetty was saying, like he did. Damn right, there
you go, damn right. We'llcontinue this discussion. But I got to
discuss something with you, Sean, and it's about my finances. Hit that
hit that yeah, that's right.Yeah, get that, Yeah, damn

basketball to welcome to the jungle becausewe were the spring Lions, Lions the
key of the jungle. Were youthe guy? Did you play high school
football? Hell? No, okay, I played seventh and eighth grade football
Baby B team quarterback in this period. Coach coach not coach Culberson. Uh,

(01:47:57):
it might have been coach Culberson. He told my hands were too small
to play quarterback. Dude, myhands are absolutely massive, just to ask
you, my hands are Maybe thenmaybe maybe you were a grower with your
hands. Yes, indeed I amin both ways. Absolutely, Maybe it
wasn't all. We're not around here. Well speak for yourself. Okay,

(01:48:18):
okay, all right, I didnot play. I did not play high
school football. So would you wouldyou have been the guy? No,
I'm not the guy running out withthe flag. You the guy that sprinted
out to the front and ran throughthe sign. Absolutely not. Yeah,
we already had that guy I thinkhe was. That was you. You
were the guy like, yeah, you spread it through the side. Yeah

(01:48:41):
yeah, and I'm flying down tothe other end zone to get a prayer
in even though I know I'm notplaying. When we went to the coach
and they ran the eleven out there, you handed the guy gator. No,
absolutely not. That would not havebeen. No, you're not the
run through the not built to playfootball. Put it to you that way.
I was barely six ft in highschool. There's no shot I was

(01:49:01):
making it. I weigh one hundredand seventy five pounds. Now, maybe
if I did play football, myworkout would be a little bit better.
Yeah, because we did a differenttype of workhouse for basketball in baseball.
But all no, I didn't playfootball, kidding me. Yeah, man,
you think I was the guy thatran with the American flag. No,
you kept the red flag, butthat was to come out of the

(01:49:23):
state right at the opening. Butwhen you put that, you're the guy
who had to jump. You're well, coach is speaking at halftime, you're
like edging towards the door, Soyou could be yeah, go, or
I'm the guy that's like waiting justcounting down in the halftime speech for the
coach to stop talking to be like, yeah, you're that guy. Yeah,

(01:49:44):
you're the let's go motivational let's goguy. Come on, yeah,
come on. Could you hear me? What time is it? No?
Absolutely not? Yeah, I feelyou don't. They's done wrong with that
guy. No, there wasn't methough. It's probably not your m VP.
But we had a We had acouple of those guys though, and

(01:50:05):
you got to have paus to throwthat football. So the grower you grow
into was that coach coach c atthese days. I think he's still coaching
somewhere. Nice man, you're scared, yeah, because coach Boseley let me
play quarterback for the B team.He was Were you running the auction?
Uh no, we were under centera lot under center, A little I

(01:50:28):
form. I'll never forget. Weused to always run this play under center's
thirty eight play action waggle left. That was a little play. It's it's
fake the stretch, uh huh threeback to the eight hole bootleg left,
damn right. And then I wouldalways hit my my X was X.
I think if you're going to andthen you had a cross or coming into
your face over your vision, littleunderneath cross or a shallow and then you

(01:50:51):
had the over the over route. If you didn't like the go route,
you threw it in the over thereby the hash mark on the top of
the numbers. It's crazy how Ican still remember some of the plays and
I can already visualize the as exactlyas you call it. And then we
also would run. I forgot thatit was basically it was a bubble It
was a bubble screen, right. So there was one one game we were
playing at Wells Middle School fed intoWestfield, so they had dogs on their

(01:51:15):
team and h it was wet.Seventh grade. I came under center,
got the snap, turned to throwand the ball was soaking wet. So
I threw it and it flew up, came right back down to my lap,
and then I launched it to theto my receiver. Receiver caught it
got destroyed right then and there, coach, and I was screaming at my

(01:51:35):
coach, you'd give me a damnit, I'd be a grower. Not
sure that is that what coach yelledback, Just giving strays the coach,
Coach, that's on you, Yeah, Coach Cortney Coach Cortney had my back.

(01:51:56):
Coach Bosey had my back. CoachChrome and even did, and then
lot of we had a lot ofkiller bees, right teks, middle school
baby stand up, running warriors,t c M S. What time is
it? Something else? Oh mygod, I hope Uh. Coach Boseley,

(01:52:21):
hard to say, Coach Bosey,Pam. What was the other one's
name? Damn it? I gothim on Facebook. But yeah, we
had all seas except for U.Man. This dude was short, he
had a military haircut. He wasawesome. He left to go be a
vice principal somewhere nice. Yeah,Coach Culberson, Man, he said,
yeah, my fing, your handsare little too small. You can't throw
that football, so let's move youto where they want to move. It

(01:52:42):
was a history teacher. People don'tforget, dude. People don't forget impressionable.
Stop the rain, drive a damnit, we're forty. Ain't nothing,
Get you ass back in a huddle. Oh Man, Dwayne, classic

(01:53:04):
Dwayne. We'll get to you.I know, first time caller, Dwayne
collong time listener. We'll get toyou, Dwayne. Don't go anywhere and
we'll keep on talking. Asters We'vegot Texans Talk coming up at nine o'clock.
Don't go anywhere. Next, it'sSports Talk seven ninety. Why isn't
the rat race more racy? Constructioncompletely shutting down to southwest s Cree Baker

(01:53:26):
anyway, enjoy your time and crawlingthrough Houston Road construction with more shown Sundspear
Sports Talk seven ninety at nine o'clock, Mavericks be the t Wolves. They're
headed to the NBA Finals seven onethree two one two five, seven ninety
Dwayne, thanks for calling back andholding brother. What's going on? Hey
guys, Hey, sorry about theweird tell situation. It's not your fault,

(01:53:50):
Bud. Okay, yeah, yeah, a long time listener. Love
the show. You guys are supercool and Chipp Lee's super cool too.
Okay. What I did to getwith you guys on with the Astros is
you go add nauseam right with theculture and how things have changed, and

(01:54:10):
the bag well and and all thethe old farts up there talking to them.
But I remember whenever we were upand coming, we we were like
top of the line, like uhand uh analytics and all the other things.
They were there, they're coming andwe actually had another team that was

(01:54:35):
the Cardinals that got in trouble fortrying to steal our stuff because of how
good we were doing it. Whenwhen you guys talked about culture and how
things are weird top to bottom andwe all feel it, we all see
it, we all we all willlisten to your show. What do y'all

(01:54:56):
think about how maybe the analytics reallyaren't where they should be now than what
they were before with Luno? BecauseI remember when JV actually complained when he
was with the Mets that their theanalytics born up to Park and they had
they have more money than anybody appreciatethe call of Dwayne. Yeah, you

(01:55:20):
think back when you think back towhen the Cardinals got in trouble for trying
to hack the system, and thatguy went to prison. If I'm not
mistaken, he had jail time forthat whole thing. I believe. So
Yeah, and then you also JeffLuno, James Click more analytical guys.
And then you bring in Dana Brownwho is a scout by by a natural

(01:55:44):
scout obviously in the minor league system, helping build that up for the Atlanta
Braves and everything that he did,and then coming over here and being the
general manager and even I mean Isaid it yesterday on Let me see if
I can find uh the quote goingto pretty much going away, going to
going away from analytics just a bit. I mean, I'm going back to

(01:56:06):
my prep sheet from yesterday. Iknow I got it in here. Let's
see here we go right here?Uh. Hall of Famer Jeff bet This
was an article after James Klick andthe Astros separate, uh went their separate
ways. Hall of Famer Jeff bagWill take a shot at X Astros GM
James click saying, quote the gameis played by humans, not computers.

(01:56:29):
End quote. Do you want tohave more? Okay? So if it's
just that's the case, then arewe saying that Bagwell is operating on field
because he's a former player and Iget that, and but the team is
still operating on analytics or is therea conflict of I mean, is there
a conflict? There could be whatis Dana Brown more field guy or analytics

(01:56:49):
guy? I feel like he's morefield guy. I do too, I
do. I feel like he's theold baseball, the old When I say
old soul, I'm talking about thanksold like Dusty. Yeah. Yeah,
even though they had differences on personnel, it felt like, but it feels
like they come from the same baseballacumen. Does that make sense? Think

(01:57:10):
about how how much how often hesays, our guys have to have quality
at bats, they have to makequality pitches. That's all fuel stuff.
That's not saying, well, thirdtime through the order averages, this slider
percentage that so for and so on. He's saying, no, dude,
you gotta they gotta make pitches andthey gotta have better quality at bats.

(01:57:30):
That shows me it's more of afuel guy than an analytics guy. But
I bet there's a good balance ofboth. For Dana Brown. Yeah,
I think so too. So isBagwell saying that you don't want to have
any of that analytics. That wouldtell me that there would be a little
bit of conflict from what they've done. Right, So the question is,
whereas who's what's the pecking order looklike? Yeah, that's what I think.

(01:57:54):
That's the one thing people wonder,Yeah, the pecking order should be
Jim Crane, Dana Brown. Yeah. And then however else you want to
put the the layers in right asyou you know, the level of you
know, the power structure in yourbuilding, and I don't think we know
that answer. We don't seven Jay, Good morning, Hey, how y'all

(01:58:15):
doing fellas? Uh, I justgot a general question and excuse my ignorance
on this topic, but uh,as far as baseball, major League baseball,
I hear Dana Brown and a lotof people always talking about the timing
of the hitters and while they're underproduceror whatever like Avaage and those guys,
and I'll bury you with So I'mwondering, because y'all played baseball at a

(01:58:38):
high level, you know, posthigh school, both of y'all, do
they have like, uh, youknow, like in football and basketball they
have practices in between the games anduh, you know that you go up
against you know, competitive competition andpractice. You know you're playing against the
big team or whatever. In baseball, do they do that or is it
because of one hundred and it's kindof hard to do that? Do they

(01:59:02):
just do like they hitting you justhave the life whatever? So you have
you have some hitters that will obviouslythey could hit off a machine or take
extra BP, and then guys likeLuis Garcia that are working their way back
to try to get back into arehab sent'll throw a live VP like simulating
at bats and things like that. They're not having inner squad st images on
their day off, no, orever, there's no simulated games before and

(01:59:27):
it's batting practice. It's what yousee before a game, like guys out
there take field and ground balls. That's the extent other than tape study I'm
assuming about your opponent. That's theextent of the physical nature you're seeing.
They do not like you know,we go ones versus ones on a Wednesday
in practice to get that field duringthe season without bringing the guys to the
ground. Or in basketball you've heardthe epic stories about Jordan on practice and

(01:59:53):
one of the guy who used tobroadcast the Bulls was a broadcaster for years
for Chicago, said, you wouldnot believe the intensity of the practice is
in between games, not just duringtraining camp. So baseball, and I
would imagine in hockey, even thoughthey play a lot of games that there's
some intense you know, up inskating going on if you have two or
three games off or coming out ofthe All Star whatever it is. But

(02:00:15):
in baseball, the majority of that, I mean, the competition is simply
field and ground balls and hitting liveVP or hitting batting practice. You're not
You're not doing much more than that. Okay, My second question is,
so when guys are struggling and youknow they have a hitting coach, do
they work individually with those players ordo they have bringing their own guys to

(02:00:36):
just their swing and things like that. During the season, they may on
their off they go work with theirhitting instructor, But when it comes to
at the ballpark doing their thing teamrelated, it's it's the it's the team
hitting coach, the pitching coaches. You're not bringing your special you're not bringing
It's like even in football, asmuch as I train quarterbacks when they hit

(02:00:57):
campus during their off game, offweek or bye week, and may train
them or work with them, butduring the season, coaches aren't letting you
go train their guy during on theirfacility during their season. And some coaches
that have been coaching college football, when you recruit them and they're there,
they will not let their quarterbacks trainwith other in college. They will not

(02:01:18):
let their quarterbacks train with private instructors. There's a couple of runner that will
not let that happen. So,but when they're on campus, you're not
going there to train their quarterback undertheir watch. That's all the off season
stuff. Okay, that's all Iwas wondering, because you know, uh,

(02:01:39):
you know, the team is strugglingand hitting, especially in like situational
positions or whatever, getting guys homeand getting guys from sick and the third
it seems like, so I waswondering, do they do any type of
you know, any type of competitivepractice center or something like that to kind
of just on the fly as opposedto wait until the off season in baseball,

(02:02:01):
so picture to hits it, pictureto hitters it, or hard ground
balls in between. But no,hey, let's play nine on nine inner
squad scrimmage on our day off that. No, they're not doing that.
Okay, right, great stuff.Appreciate you, brother, thank you.
All right, let's get into thenine o'clock hour. Talk a little Texans
football. Yeah you ready fired up, baby Ota. Seven days. I'm

(02:02:26):
still on the astros. Man,I will say astros if you like,
well, let's go Texans. Yousure we'll change up pitch on a frid
I love Friday, Yeah, man, I love it's getting nine o'clock hour.
Next a sports tlock seven to eightyKBMS Houston, a HD to Houston,

experience. All three. Okay, let's do this. Sewan Salisbury to USC

(02:03:09):
Trus, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury, Ryan Lima, go Lobos. This
is the Sewn Salsbury Show. Astrosbeat the Mariners yesterday afternoon, they stave
off a sweep. They host theTwins tonight have been mad Park seven to

your home for Astros Baseball. Mavericksbeat the t Wolves. They're headed to

(02:03:31):
the NBA Finals. Let's take onemore quick call in these Astros before we
talk Texans. Felipe, good morning, Good morning fell us. How you
doing. We're great man. What'shappening? Well? A few things first,
Bright added, you know I wentto Westfield, man. I can
agree with you. There were somedogs back then. But as far as

(02:03:55):
the Ashros guys, I mean, the phone line is pretty much barn as
you know, stressful as they wereyesterday. You know, you get a
win, the phone lines are quiet, you get are lost, and you
know everybody's coming out of the worldwork to complain. But they did have
a great game. I can saythat. But I have one question on
that, and I'm gonna bring upthe Texans and then I'll get y'all tape

(02:04:17):
if the team doesn't look like it'sgoing well or still struggling to get to
like that first place edition or catchup to the leader of the division.
Who do y'all think will be onthe trading block if we do de center
trade? And who do you thinkwill be targeting this trade deadline or all
season? And as smart as Texanswise, man, I'm a Patriots fan

(02:04:38):
through and through and we've got atwenty year of dynasty. But I can
tell you this now, I'm aI'm pretty sure that Texans are the top
team, if not one of thetop teams this season. I'm pretty sure
they're gonna be in a Super Bowlthis here. We're close to it.
But I'll go ahead and hang outto get you take Thanks for the time,
guys, thank you forilipe. Shoutout Westfield, baby. I'm a

(02:05:00):
Spring high guy, but uh,right down the road. Who wins in
a brawl? Spring High or Westfieldnow or back then when I was in
high school? Then back then?Yeah, oh it's Westfield who wins now?
I don't know. Pretty tough sledhuh yeah between them to Caney and
Westfield, Spring Tocaanean Westfield, Idon't know, man, some toughness flowing
over there. Huh yeah, ohyeah, some good athletes. You don't

(02:05:24):
go on the east side of fortyfive, brother, That's all I'm saying.
I do o the LBC that doesesgo from Los Angeles, not on
the east side of forty five, not anymore. The hell out of here,
dude. Ready to go right now, let's go to show. Yeah,
okay, let's go. I'll takethe old crib. I like caw
Felipe. Also, he's been alifelong Patriots fans. He understands ain't no

(02:05:48):
Brady in New England now, butthey got a guy who wants to be
Brady here in Houston. It's gonnabe a fun watch. There no sunshine
when she's gone. It's the nameof the sayer, damn it. I
listened to the song yest day atthe gym raw Withers, Billy Withers.
Yeah, Bill Withers. There yougo. Yeah, I listen. Guys

(02:06:12):
like C. J. Stroud andDemiko Ryans can make you shift allegiance,
man, they really can't. Andthe way they're going here, there's optimism,
man, it's and it's not justlike it's not even tempered optimism even
after one it's just been one yearof this great success, but the quantum
leaps and it's not. I don'tthink it's fake optimism. It is.

(02:06:32):
It's real. And it's palpable, man, definitely, and has been all
off season. And while it'll betough, and you know, throwing ten
games, I mean, you can'tcome in here expect them to go fourteen
and three. That's it. That'soverboard. But I think now you can
literally come in here saying they're theteam to beat in the division, whatever

(02:06:53):
record that might be. You gottaget a little lucky, you gotta stay
healthy, yep. But when youhave somebody who won't settle for lack of
accountability, you'll always have accountability. And the head coach here going all the
way up to the McNair family nowand they've built it right with the GM

(02:07:15):
and Nick Cassario has done, youknow, personnel wise in the study and
how they go about getting the personnelthat fits their system and fits what they're
trying to do. Not just talent, but guys who fit in and when
I say fit in, that dowhat they want to do. There there
is accountability talent. Obviously, teamswithout talent don't win championships. You got
to have talent. But you know, guts and commitment and buy in can

(02:07:41):
do a lot for a victory ortwo along the way. So I get
why. I mean it's probably hardfor hardcore Texans fans right now to hold
their water, if you know whatI mean. Try it where it's like,
man, I want to jump offthat. I want to get rolling.
Now it's come and it'll be herebefore you blink, and it did.

(02:08:03):
The excitement should be through the roof. I'm gonna tell you there'll be
more excitement in opening day on Kirbyat that stadium than there has been in
a long time, maybe ever sincethey since this franchise started. Maybe the

(02:08:24):
energy it's going to be rocking. And I think what you want here is
the Texans to be the team thatwhen people come to Houston that the home
facility is a problem to deal with. It's going to be a fun watch
man. So as of today, this was updated at five point thirty this

(02:08:46):
morning. The Houston Texans have thehighest over under for wins in the AFC
South and it's set at nine anda half. Yeah, I personally think
that's low. It is low.I think it's low. But if you
notice it, every year we gothrough this, the over under is usually
for everybody. I mean, theyusually don't have a fourteen and three team

(02:09:09):
in the over under wins and losses. I get nine. Why, you
know what they're thinking is quantum leapslast year expectations, tougher schedule, fourth
hardest schedule. Right, do youthink that you'd like to think that Tennessee
may improve? You know, therookie quarterback should be better. Who will
be a second year guy? TheColts, you know, you think that

(02:09:33):
they're going to be better. Youalready know that Jacksonville's something to be dealt
with, and we're still waiting forthe next level of Trevor Lawrence. So
I get it. And if theywin ten games, great, if that's
win the division wins and losses, while it's great, you want to get
home field advantage. But and thenthey may very well. But for you,
for us to come and expecting they'regoing to be the best team in

(02:09:54):
the regular season in the AFC,that that's optimistic and probably a little overboard
considering they got to go through. But you know what, they had seven
more wins than they did the yearbefore. Right, they're not getting They're
not going fifteen and two, buddy, They're not there yet. We're not
going fourteen and three, right,But ten eleven wins realistic, twelve wins

(02:10:16):
would put them in the hunt forhome field advantage, playoff at home field
advantge so out the playoffs. SoI just listen to me, it's get
better. And if that means ninewins or eleven wins, whatever it is,
when the division first, take careof the playoff. Second, play
as many at home as you canin January and February or January, and
hope that you're sitting in your assin where are we at this year?

(02:10:39):
Where we playing at this year?Super Bowl New Orleans in New Orleans in
February. It's a short trip andthat'd be a home field advantage for them,
So it'd be I just I meanwins. When we talk about wins
and losses. If you're not, people's head explode because we won ten,
we got to win twelve. No, No, you really don't. It'd
be great. You got to dois be better, be a little lucky

(02:11:01):
with injuries and your team and youroffense, and the production should even be
better, and defensively because it's anotheryear in the system, and most of
all, don't take for granted whathappened last year. Build off it to
It's like a house. You wantto grow into your house. If you've
got kids and they're growing, youwant to grow into house. You don't
want to grow out of it.You need to grow into this. And

(02:11:24):
I don't think it's unrealistic for themto say so. To me, nine
wins by the setting the over underit like nine and a half wins.
To me. That tells me thatdeep down they think they can get to
eleven. Not the Texans, thepeople who set the lines. Yeah,
Vegas, just if they play likethey did last year, they're winning ten
games. If they play like theydid last year and get a little help

(02:11:45):
from their friends, they'll win morethan ten games. And if they have
an out of body experience. They'llbe in the hunt for home field advents
throughout because the division is not dominant, but the divisions four can win the
division the fourth you know what I'msaying. If it's pretty bunched together with
some good players, the Texans Ithink are the class of the division with
their talent and their quarterback is rightnow better than anybody in the division.

(02:12:07):

We already hit it? Getn't it? Listen to them right here?
Yeah? Love Ota season. It'smy favorite, better than the regular season.
Let's break down some routes. Baby, you you now know when eleven

(02:14:01):
and twelve personnels. I'm not gonnalie to you. Stefan digs yesterday and
seven on seven drills or whatever theywere doing. He ran like a like
a four yard five yard slant route, caught the pass and ran for like
a five or six yards after thecatch, and it was like the easiest

(02:14:22):
throwing cats. And that dove climbingaccount tweeted it out and said, what
a dart from CJ. Stroud toStefan Diggs. I mean, dude,
Sean, and he wasn't doing doveclimbing. He wasn't doing it to bait
and he do you think he wasdoing it to be a wise ass?
No? He was like like realserious, like serious, Well, let

(02:14:43):
me just let him. I mean, I'm talking like a three strip step
drop to his left and goes rightacross the middle. The easiest throwing cats.
Hey shorts and T shirt. Hey, that's a dart. And then
you know what, most guys inthis league can can make that throw?
Yeah I could. Now I canshow you a few CJ. Stroud throws.

(02:15:05):
You say now that, oh yeah, that is six Russian cosmonouts in
a micro micrometer right there. It'sexplosive. The throw from c J.
Stroud to Tank Dell when they hadthat game when you drive against the Buccaneers
to the left, deep over itwas the sail route like eighteen to twenty
two and sailed and catches it totaps asietyh yeah, that's a hell of

(02:15:28):
flat to throw. Yeah, that'sabout a one point three ball that's just
over the underneath coverage and a ripshot with a little bit of speed bump
in it. Oh hell yeah, that's a slant and it is probably a
throw most can make and if youcan't, you're probably not out there.
During I saw that caption, Iwas like, dude, my favorite though,
is my favorite is in ot asthe running play by play. Oh

(02:15:52):
yeah, that's my favorite. Yeahone on all great hitch route by Stephan
They've put his foot in the ground, came back, sat there at six

Texans. Next on Sports Talk sevento eighty, The Shawn Salisbury Show continued

(02:21:54):
seven to ten. The first pitchsix o'clock on Deck Show right here on
seven on your home for Astros Baseball. Mavericks beat the t Wolves. They're
headed to the NBA Finals to takeon the Celtics. Texans OTAs is what
we are discussing. Seven one three, two one two five seven ninety Oh
yeah, Larry, what's happening? What's going on? What's up? Larry?

(02:22:18):
You know it's good, mate,so we got to talk to him
foot behind his Friday. That thatthat Clay Walkers song man is one of
the best songs a time in Houston. Quarterbacks, aren't Crew Crew? What
happened that? Hey Larry? Larry, Hey, hey, we got a
poor connection again. Give us ashout right back and we'll get you right
back on. I got you.Larry says a million things right that song

(02:22:43):
man's I don't know what we gotgoing on. It's weird how that can
make the voice change r It's againlike Larry. I know Larry's pumped for
his Texans. Yeah, I knowhe is. You can get that yack
ready to go. That yack doesn'tneed to wait till football. He's no,
sure doesn't. Let's see. Let'ssee we got him right here,
Larry. What's happening, hey man? This weather got very wet. Now

(02:23:07):
we got Larry. I don't knowwho made whoever mad up there, man,
but we need to figure out howto create a seance or something to
get rid of the weather. Theygot my phone tripping and got everything tripping.
Man, get that yack out,dog gonna get that yack out,
hey son, It ain't too hurtit for so hey, man, look,

(02:23:31):
you know I was saying that thatfootball time. I had the pleasure
of meeting Klay Walker several times, man, and he is one of the
best dudes that I know, man, And that football time in Houston,
song, it really is awful. When your quarterbacks are Jeff Driscoll and rock
Ogwaller and all these other you knowdummies. Win had David's Mills. But

(02:23:52):
when you got c. J.Stroud over there throwing it, man,
that means you're gonna be seeing touchdowns. So you take that. Do you
think that cut hits different now,Larry with the QB right exactly, it
hits way different when you got somebodyover there that's gonna be pulling the trigger
to Stefan Diggs and Nico and Taneand Joe Mixing, It's everybody gonna be

(02:24:13):
partying over there. And Shun yousaid that. You know, the start
of this season might might the firstgame might just be the top. It's
gonna be very difficult to top thatnineteen ten whooping we put on them old
saw ass Cowboys back in two thousandand two. But this might come real
close because the expectations that we asfans have going over there on Kirby this

(02:24:33):
September is gonna be way different, man, because I saw it when I
saw at ot a A's and look, bee, Lemmy, I know it's
tongue in cheek Maine because they justplaying in shorts and pads. But look,
you got some dudes over there.Man. When I saw Joe Mixon
standing at that podium talking about everybodywas gonna be able to eat, and

(02:24:54):
then I saw a slow come upthere talking about he gonna just be feeding
everybody. And the second year ofa quarterback is the most important. And
the fact that we got the wholecontinuity of all these things coming together.
Them boys might want to open upa room for your boy and Stafford in
New Orleans, because I feel somedifferent, son. I'm a pole one
in our how and you could betyour ass that if they get that deep

(02:25:20):
into it, Larry'll be there, and guess where you'll be. I'll be
right down there with him. I'llbe uh, I'll be a radio row
with you. Damn right you will. First time, yep, be my
first radio row. And knowledge you'venever been to one, have you?
I have not? Man, wegotta get you to a row. We
gotta get you to the row, okay, just to see the experience.

(02:25:41):
And it'd be nice if the hometeam was there, that would be fantastic,
sir. Uh Bourbon Street. Beenthere a few times. Indeed,
indeed that place will still your soul, man, if you let it.
There's some off Bourbon Street places thereis quarter. Matter of fact, I'm
gonna tell you this. There's somenon there's some non. There's the local,

(02:26:05):
some local pubs and bars there didare in restaurants, Yeah, that's
the one. But there's a there'ssome like like some locals that that are
not tourists stops, you know, like a Bourbon Street which is fun.
You got to see it and gothrough. It's awesome. I'm telling you
there's some good places there. Now, Triple, have you been to Bourbon
Street? Indeed, I have? You have college kid he'd been there partying

(02:26:28):
with his peeps. Man, youknow that I went there. I've been
there three times. First time.First time was a week long oil and
gas conference and the conference hotel wasthe Royal Sinesta on Bourbon Street. You
ain't getting no sleep there, butwell, you don't want a hotel on
Bourbon street man, you want toknow. Plus, your hotel room will

(02:26:54):
smell like somebody just came and urinated. On your first morning waking up on
Bourbon stre be walking out to goget coffee, it was like six in
the morning in this there were citycrews bleaching the streets. Oh yeah,
it's a great city. It's agreat town. I freaking love it.

(02:27:15):
But it will you need a weekoff after that week? There, Absolutely
it will. It's like Vegas ina different way, in a different way,
but it will. Put it thisway, when you go out on
Bourbon Street super Bowl Week, startapologizing before you start, cause and already

(02:27:35):
prepare for the fact that the nextmorning you wake up you are not going
to feel good. Those usually endup beating that you had a great time
of the night before, right,But yeah, you know what where nose
plugs the next day. But they'llget it cleaned up for the next night.
That is a great food city, energy. It just has you want
to talk about the history in thattown. I'm not telling anybody anything they

(02:27:56):
don't know. I love it.And the super Bowl will never leave New
Orleans. It'll always be in theRODA because that rotation New Orleans is just
well it is. It is uhepic epic. I not prepared for that

(02:28:18):
wild It will wear your ass out, but you know what, at least
you but you'll always look back andsay, man, that week, then
the next the first time there, you know, after the first few nights,
you got stop at Brothers there onthe corner, grab yourself one of
their bargeritas and get the greasiest breakfastthat sits right, some grits, some

(02:28:39):
biscuits and gravy right there. Youwill were standing life for and your hair's
all everywhere. You haven't here,You're miserable, But then you go in
there and you get that breakfast Brothersright there, and it's like, okay,
life's different today. Yea, yeah, great place man. Hopefully the
Texans will be representing. Let's getyou a final call the show, Michael,
what's going what's going on this morning? Morning? I hope you guys

(02:29:01):
are all doing being safe today?Thank you you too. Man. We're
about to go face out here shortly. What's on your mind? Got a
couple points here, Just let melet me rattle and I'll hang it up.
So I subscribe both of the websitesbasically Salisbury metrics and the La Lima
Lenox or excuse me, Lima Lytics, and both both of them, both

(02:29:22):
of them swear I go to andthey say that if you score more runs,
which are points in baseball, youbeat the other team. But it
also says if you score the leastamount of points in golf, you win.
So I'll say that. But thenthe second thing is a couple of
days ago with all hell was breakingloose about the Astros, and I know
it's an uphill battle. You guyswere straight up talking about bunting, moving

(02:29:45):
guys over Bregman, hitting it tothe right side, and I'll be damned
the next day or yesterday, Andthis is something that I'll never unsee.
Tucker tries to lay down a bunchand he looks like he's a giraffe holding
a freaking field hockey stick. Noone, I'm he knows how to bump.
But you guys have a lot ofpull in this town. You had
that show talking about bunts, oldschool, moving guys over, Bregman going

(02:30:07):
to the other side, and whathappened? You saw it? Man?
I think that you guys need youguys both need to uh take over the
job of whatever they call. There'san analytics game plan guy. And then
also the last point is why dowe have two pitching coaches and two hitting
coaches? And all? Hang up, you guys have a great weekend.
Thank you. You know, Michael, you might be honest something. Give

(02:30:28):
up the radio show to go bethe analytics guys for the Astros. No,
I'll pass too much work. Wait, you know he may be onto
something. We wanted Bregman move downearly. What happened? Let's Brat move
down. We wanted to break youout of the lineup I'm talking about he
got sent. We said that youcould put pain in the four hoole.
What happened? Yeah, I'm putin the four hole. We said,

(02:30:50):
Uh, I mean you start togo through it and we we pretty much
run the Astros. Yeah, prettymuch. I mean they're making their decisions.
I don't bright. Yeah, whywould we They put Tucker in the
too hole? Okay, next daysin tool we want the ball moved over.
But the only thing that they didlisten to we said, out of

(02:31:11):
what Kyle Tucker bunty and he triesto buzz So Michael, hey, it
sounds good above our pay grade.Well, we'll keep throwing. We'll keep
throwing stuff out there. Let thoseexperts do that thing, but we'll try
to keep giving hints. Okay, keep giving hints that what we'd like to
and if it works, it works. But hey, if he wants to
give us credit for it'd be great. Yeah. No, it's some great

(02:31:33):
nick names I like, and I'mstaying away from all that hard stuff that
they got to do. I justlike to discuss it here. We'll let
those experts do their thing. Yeah, above our pay grade, Yeah,
way above our pay grade. Youknow it's not above our pay grade.
Taking uh, coming back to thelast segment of the show on a Friday.
What else let me think? Letme think probably something that you're let's
see, maybe uh, getting yourselfa generator? No, we did that

(02:31:58):
already, Oh we did. Youdo need to go to brother level electric?
