Dan Matthew, excuse, this is the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 5 (00:23):
Here's the two and that is strike three. Call her
fall on the outside corner. Good morning, get after that
and good night to tim Elko and the side is retired.
Roberts strikes out three in the inning. He's able to
strand the bases loaded to the lines.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
This with down. Let fel Live gets into the corner.
Speaker 2 (00:41):
Haya comes around.
Speaker 1 (00:42):
He will score East apartus the third. He's being waved.
Speaker 6 (00:46):
Here's the throw and he'll slide in, say two to one,
Astros take the league.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
Jose l two.
Speaker 6 (00:54):
Bay with his eighth double of the season, a two
run double in the Astros leader to one, and you'll
hit this with a right centerkeel.
Speaker 1 (01:03):
Going back on it and that'll one hop the wall.
Alkuve will walk home.
Speaker 6 (01:08):
Niner Diaz goes into second base, back to back doubles
and the Astros.
Speaker 5 (01:13):
Lead it three to one. Fromberzo two swinging and a mess.
Helko goes down on the curve ball and the side
is retired. Twelve strikeout for frober Valdez one shy of
his career high.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
They want two.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
Strike free call at the top of the zone.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
Slater goes down.
Speaker 7 (01:31):
If that is the ballgame, Josh Haden remains perfect eighteen
for eighteen and save chances as the Astros take two
out of three from the White Sox one in tonight
four to three.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
Here you go.
Speaker 8 (01:44):
You heard Robert Ford give you the details of how
it went last night over there at dyke In Park.
Kevin Ashenfelder also too filling in for Steve Sparks in
this series. But with all that we say, away we go,
and good morning here on the Sean Allsbury Show. Sean,
it was a little different this time around, especially the
(02:06):
last six starts that we'd seen out of fromber Valdez.
But it's hard to sneeze at five innings and twelve strikeouts.
Speaker 1 (02:14):
Yeah, good morning, under yeah, understated, right, I mean five innings,
twelve strikeouts, a walk and pull off the wind. It
wasn't I wouldn't say vintage Fromber because that would have meant,
you know, a couple more innings in innings when he's
at his best and getting into the seventh. But what
ninety plus ninety four ninety five pitches last night and
the twelve strikeouts and compared to the balls that's no
(02:36):
free passes man one of them. And then the you know,
the run you know, Hater gives up in the nights.
But other than that this day they were solid. The
thing I like is that they win these games. You
know how important it is to win one run games
and two run games, and they did and got good
bullpen work again. You know, you a little a little nervous,
(02:58):
but Haters had such a good year, at least pushing
twenty saves on the year. I was. It was impressive
because Fromber was so efficient last night, even though he
didn't get deeper than the fifth inning, So another win
for him, been on a roll. Twelve strikeouts and he
keeps the ball for the most part in the ballpark
and gives you a chance. And run run games a
(03:20):
little stressful, I mean two runs going into the night,
but the four, the four runs they posted in a
Fromber pitching match and getting the great bullpen, you know,
you got a chance. And so he was really really
good last night. But not you know, oh my gosh,
this is seven eight inning Fromber. But like you said,
twelve strikeouts in five innings. Is is nothing to if
(03:40):
that's average work for Fromber because the five innings, I'll
take it. So I know that when we say big wins,
I just I think wins coming after that big offensive
performance and coming back out. And I told you yesterday
said you can chalk this one up. They're not losing
this series with Fromber going to the hill and you
know what, they they saw a lot of his good
(04:01):
stuff last night. So Asos take care of their business,
and you know they had to do a new series
and it was he was impressive and they got enough
timely hits to win the game. Yeah.
Speaker 8 (04:11):
I mean, if this is a quote unquote down start,
twelve strikeouts over five innings, I don't think there's gonna
be a lot of people who are too upset with
performances like that. But you set the standard that you've
set the last few starts. I mean people are thinking
six seven innings out of you, but still able to
give you a chance to win.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
I think is the underlying theme. Yeah, there's no doubt,
like you said, when you keep you're gonna win a
lot of games when you get to your when you
get to your bullpen. But you also get to your
closer with a leading ninth inning, that guy you're gonna
win a lot of games. And Frober did that. But
this is you know, this is who he's been as
far as you know. Induces ground balls, and when he's
(04:52):
going like that and getting strikeouts, he's pretty impressive. And
although when I say a fishing although you would like
a few less pitches, I think it was tinety plus
pitches last night, if I'm not mistaken, a few less
pitches for ninety five innings. But the strikeout, the walk
ratio is efficient where it's not a twelve and five
or ten and four type of thing when it comes
to strikeouts and walks. But he gave his team a chance.
(05:13):
And this team understands and always has, you know, for
the most part, what you know, the clutch gene that
somehow they come through even though they had the lead.
Didn't you know, didn't have to have some two out
rally in the ninth. They he did well enough to
allow them to jump out in front. And then if
you can get whether it's the fifth inning of the
seventh inning, a bullpen, that's fairly you know that that
(05:36):
is either rested or great and if they're both, then
you got a chance. But when you get to that
with that lead, it's going to be really difficult to
beat the Astros the way they're going. You would just
like a little more latitude when it comes to you know, runs,
But that's that's you know that three, four or five
runs gives you a chance to win every time from
(05:56):
or a hundre Bround goes out there. And well, it
wasn't his best or most efficient efficiency and throwing strikes
and getting people out and force and swing and miss
was pretty impressive.
Speaker 8 (06:06):
Right on the number ninety five last night for fromber
and you mentioned I mean scattering some hits. He does
strike out the twelve, as we've mentioned, you mentioned the
one walk, but it's also you know, with those hits,
I mean it was good played approaches by the White Sox.
I mean, you've got guys going the other way. Even
when he gives up that second run there in the
fifth inning, you saw how frustrated he was. He saw
(06:29):
Josh Miller had to go out to the mound and
be like, hey, hey, hey, you know, calm down a
little bit. You got this, You are still you you
can still get out of this and fromber to his credit.
I mean, we've seen it spiral out of control in
the past. He took the words or even just you know,
took it upon himself and just was able to bear
down and get that final out. And they give himself
(06:49):
the chance to win.
Speaker 1 (06:50):
And they also realized I would imagine when they went
out there, okay, with a little frustration, get through this,
get out of the fifth inning. Did in their mind
it was like, okay, ninety plus pitches even though he's
efficient the frustration, they also making good decisions on when
it was time, right for him, when it was time
and uh, you know, to get through it, deal with it.
(07:11):
But what has been a weakness in the past, hopefully
he doesn't let become weakness. I understand the frustration. Hell,
I play golf, so I get it. But they handled
it well enough. And then you know, with that with
a two run lead, getting the hater, you would imagine
that here you've got a pretty good shot that get
up the run, but they close it out. So another
say for him, like I said that winds are hard
(07:32):
to come by. I don't care the optics of them,
and we'd love him to look like you know, two
games ago, two nights ago. But I'll take the optics
in these too, because I think wins like this you
got to kind of gut your way through it, and
a little bit of scare in the ninth with the
you know, getting closer, because then it becomes one more
swing of the bat. But you know your pitcher gets
(07:53):
you five innings and twelve strikeouts. Most people in this league,
we'll chalk that up as a hell as man. Not
only will we take it. Isn't an amazing to get
to the point where it's like, yeah, Frobert was pretty good.
He struck out twelve. For some that's a they won't
sniff twelve strikeouts in the game this year, so they'd
take it. Froberts set a set a pretty high standard,
(08:15):
more than more than ever the last six starts or so,
he's elevated to a whole new level and has proven
why every year you got to consider him for the
cy Young And it was a good one last night.
It wasn't special when it comes to oh man, we
scored fifteen runs, but enough and enough timely hits and
staving them off when you got to the bullpen six, seven,
eight and.
Speaker 8 (08:34):
Nine, well and we'd also too. I mean this is
mostly last year. This year in close games late, it
seems like the Astros have been able to kind of,
you know, be able to build themselves up and win
those types of games, and they proved it again last night.
And a huge part of that too, is you mentioned
Josh Hater earlier on in our conversation, Sean, the job
(08:54):
of the closer is to close the game out with
the lead and to get the win.
Speaker 1 (08:59):
That's the job.
Speaker 8 (09:00):
It's not to go out there and get three up,
three down every single time. You'd love to have it.
But I mean, still, it doesn't look like most of
his outings have looked this year. And if anybody was
necessarily concerned, that's what I would say to them, Well
did he get the save.
Speaker 1 (09:14):
Yeah, he got out there, he did his job. Well,
we're not closer. Closer, it doesn't mean perfection. Now, if
you say, well he's perfect on all his saves, that's fine,
But in a lot of those I'm talking about any
closer in the league, but in saves across the league,
the stressful situations, you know, you walk a lead off guy,
or you give up a solo home run and then
(09:34):
you settle in and take eighteen pitches to get you know,
I'm just using anything, any pitches or names out there.
And then you get him out, you close out the game.
Speaker 2 (09:43):
You won.
Speaker 1 (09:45):
That's your gig, right, It doesn't say the only way
you get to win is if you go perfect. Three
guys up, three guys down. There's no stress. There's nobody
on second base after a double and a stolen base.
There's you know, most of the time these closers got
to deal in stress situations anyway. You know, they start
an inning and boom, go out there and try to
close it out, and you're exactly right, we do get
(10:07):
we all get caught up. Oh yeah, man, he got
the save. But it wasn't a perfect one. Oh and
that's why you get a two run lead instead of one,
and one run doesn't hurt it. You get a little latitude,
you can snap it, you get a mulligan, you know,
snap pook it and come back at it in the
fair way and go make a bogie. But it ends
up still winning to you the tournament. They don't take
trophy away. When you win the tournament with a bogie,
(10:30):
the major still counts. It doesn't matter. Still win it.
Nobody said you have to make Birdie in order to
hoist a trophy or a hoist a save, so same
thing there. I know, we all want it clean, we
want it to look like Rivera. Every time they go out.
It doesn't happen, but the character wins do and he
settled back into this thing. He's been really good this year.
But I think you feel pretty secure get into a
(10:50):
bullpen with a two run lead. The way that they've
done it this year and their history in the past,
well it may not have been last year, is they
know how to come up with the clutch it win
close games, doing a better job of it obviously this year.
And I get some you know what to take them
to it thirty eight and thirty or whatever it is,
and continues to keep them in first place, and they
(11:12):
continue to trudge along. And I don't care who it's against.
You win every series. You win the series. I think
you start to mount these wins and it becomes impressive,
and this is a good time for them to gain
even more ground, meaning distance themselves with these next what
ten to eleven games.
Speaker 8 (11:27):
Yeah, I don't grade in terms of how a win was.
I mean, they're all different but I mean the moral
of the story is did you do it or did
you not?
Speaker 1 (11:34):
It's pass vail in that regard, Sean.
Speaker 8 (11:36):
So I agree with you on that one thing we
have not talked about, though, wait and see on east
soak peretis. I'm not going to lie to you. As
soon as I saw him come out of the box,
I wasn't thinking hamstring, Sean.
Speaker 1 (11:49):
I started to worry that it was worse.
Speaker 8 (11:51):
I was like, oh my god, please tell me he
did not snap an Achilles.
Speaker 1 (11:54):
Yeah. Well, anytime you start to see the back part
of the back part of the body, know when it's
the lower half and hits there. Now we've got to
the point where they can hamstring calf. Oh my gosh,
it's in the lower half. Then you start to worry. Yes,
I am with you one hundred percent. Those getting and
as we well know, Achilles, this day and age, with
all the modern medicine and technology we have, are worse
(12:17):
than some kind of a hamstring or a need. But yeah,
you get a looking because he has been a consistent
hell of a player this year. He really has. He's
been solid for them and keeps driving the ball. Hell,
he's on his way to thirty home runs. It keeps
up close, you know what I'm saying. So he's been
really good for this.
Speaker 8 (12:33):
Team, absolutely, and Joe's spot after the game saying it's
going to be a wait and see on Perettis. He
did add though, that parrett has told him after the
game that he'd be good to go today. But you
know players will say that, and now we just have
to see if indeed he is going to be able
to avoid the il. Here's to hoping, especially when you
don't have Jordon Alvarez or Chas McCormick available to you
(12:56):
right now. I mean more jord On in terms of
the production that you can count on it from him.
But again hoping for the best when it comes to
Esak Paraitis. But the Astros pick up the win last night,
you want to jump in on that. Seven one three
two one two five seven ninety again seven one three,
two one two five seven ninety. But just how good
is this bullpen?
Speaker 1 (13:17):
Ben?
Speaker 8 (13:18):
We talked a lot about Josh had not the sum
of the entire bullpen. We'll talk about those guys next
right here, as we are just getting started on a
Friday edition of The Sean Salisbury Show, Sports talk seven ninety.
Speaker 1 (13:29):
Hey guys, Trajan Wealth. Hey, at just six in the morning,
it's still cool to be thinking about man. I got
a great wealth advisor, somebody who understands and has answers
for my questions, and they're a financial fiduciary and they're
obligated to you. I said that that that is how
this works when it comes to a wealth advisor. I
was fortunate to spend some a good amount of time
(13:51):
with them in Scottsdale a couple of weeks ago, just
talking inside the room and seeing, you know, when you're
sitting in somebody in face to face shike, there's a reason.
There's a reason why they're, in my opinion, the ones
that I like to go to for that, you know,
and you would as well for at least the free review.
So you understand why you're the retirement, what it's going
(14:14):
to take. We do that for vacation, and here you
are in June planning your family vacation for the summer
or planing out your summer, and all the time you
put into doing that and will for every summer vacation,
are you doing the same for you retirement? You understand?
For one K Rollover what kind of money is it
going to take to stay retired. I don't care if
you're thirty or fifty or whenever your goals are to retire.
(14:35):
It's hard to wake up into retirement and not having
prepared for it and having somebody there to nudge you,
to assist you, to answer all your questions, to be
there to explain for one, K Rollover is important. And
I know where there's a lot of di wires that
are smart investors or smart financial people, but man, I
know this is like anything else. Expertise does matter, and
(14:56):
so does somebody who wants the same peace of mind
for you and your security that you want for you.
That's who Trajan Wealth is three four six three seven
one thirty three thirty for the free review. Three four
six three seven one thirty three thirty for the free review.
It's free and Jeff Junior, it's veteran leed and family owned,
and while it may be boutique, it's got a big
old reach. For any questions you have, they have answers.
(15:17):
I like that trust, and I like that transparency, and
I like that peace of mind. Trajian Wealth offers that.

Speaker 9 (15:35):
Going non stop shn with former QB Sean Salisbury.
Speaker 8 (15:42):
Permission to call out a coworker, Oh yeah, how about it.
Oh yeah, it's not a direct coworker. It's not with
us in our uh on our station. But uh, we're
big fians of Cliff Saunders, right with kt R H.
We love we love cliff Yeah, absolutely, I mean you
affectionately call him Cliffy.
Speaker 1 (16:02):
I call you or Clifford. Yeah, call him Clifford sometimes, yeah,
Clifford Gifford.
Speaker 8 (16:06):
Yeah, yeah, just it just depends on which which one's
the right one to go with at the time, right,
But I've got a initialized nickname for him, thhm, the
Hall Monitor, because usually I'll roll in about thirty minutes
before the show, the show the Hayes in the barn,
I've prepared the night before. I'm good to go, get here,
tidy up a few things, and then we get going.
(16:28):
But the last two times I've walked in, he's happened
to be out in the hall and he'll check his watch,
and the second time he did, the first time, the
coffee had not hit yet. So I was just kind
of like, cliff come on man. The second one, I go,
you're the hall monitor in high school, weren't you, Like
like you were the one like if a kid showed
up about a minute late to class and he could
(16:49):
have possibly or she could have snuck into the class
and a teacher wouldn't have noticed, and you would just
say their name and go.
Speaker 1 (16:55):
You're late okay, or say hey bed uh good to
see uh so and so so the teacher notices they
walked in type of thing. Right, right, that's what you're saying.
That's what you're putting on Cliff, Right, that's it. That's it. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
So it just happened. It wasn't just ironically looked at
his watch. It was almost like, huh Dan, yeah, it's Tien.
(17:17):
Tell well the rain gets you a little bit. We're
not going to do that tomorrow, are we? Yeah? Exactly?
Which I mean if you if you said that, I'll
have been like, what who are you? Like? When did
you become the program? But it's even more like in
your kitchen, I love Clifford, in your in your kitchen,
it's almost a more subtle, like it's about a subtle
(17:39):
as a Mike Tyson right to the head, right to
your face, like he just glances at the watch, you know.
That's that's the way of like, hmmm, what are you doing,
old disdain Danny exactly. Yeah, yeah, oh yeah, so you
Hall monitor disas. That's it. That's it.
Speaker 8 (17:54):
Th hm, the Hall Monitor. I mean, we love you, Cliff,
we do. We Me and Sean are You're biggest fans.
Speaker 1 (18:00):
But you could love Cliff and still want to still
give them a good nickname. I think that Cliff probably
would would welcome that nickname.
Speaker 8 (18:08):
I just have learned, Yeah, I just have learned over
the years, especially when you work in morning radio, read
the room a little bit like if you see somebody
coming in maybe not making direct eye contact with you,
kind of just like staring at the ground, whatever it is,
then probably just say, hey, the coffee hasn't hit yet,
or maybe down as great a night as sleep, whatever
(18:30):
it might be. But usually my policy is I'm spoken
to first before I will speak, because I know how
some people can be when the early morning grouchies get you.
Speaker 1 (18:42):
Yeah, well that's for most people, aren't really you know,
you know, really fired up at you know, three forty
five in the morning. Four in the morning, I mean
you get going for the emissuy. Some it takes ten minutes,
some it takes an hour to Okay, I got my
coffee's in, I'm good to go. Everything's ready to roll.
Now let's hit this ground run. I got my first
(19:03):
words out because then there's not a whole lot of
people to talk to in our industry. At three, you
know speed, normal people are in bed and they're so
you're kind of going through your stuff and then you
finally the first word you say is probably when one
of us walks in, right, because you're not talking or
Cliff Hall monitor in your ass. There you go. And
Cliff's precise, if you Cliff's precise and dynamic and all that.
(19:24):
He's also you know, he's also a runner, so he's
like checking like a long distance guy, so he checked
those marathons where he's you know, you know how guys
they'll look down while they're in the middle of their race.
So where am I at? So time, that math, that
time for Cliff is everything and he does a great
job over there, and I'm with you. It's like but
it's instead of the whey you've been it's just a
(19:44):
quick glance at the watchman dan Wan dude. So yeah, oh,
there's no doubt Cliff was a hall monitor and and
and probably the teacher's pet. I would imagine the teachers
love Cliff because he volunteered to go down and get
the extra, bringing the the uh you know, the AV stuff,
audio video stuff, bring it into the room for so
(20:05):
or if the sub came in, Cliff was like, I
got this, and Cliff put the Cliff's the guy also,
and I mean this effectually because I love him. Cliff
knew how to do the AV you udit, put it together.
You know what I'm saying for that thing. You know,
you sometimes a teacher going I don't know how to
work this. You old school. At that point in time,
the AVY was semi new school. This is pre your time.
But you go in there for that and watch. You're like,
(20:26):
let's say you're getting ready to watch the watch a
movie on TV or something because it's has to do
with class. So you're writing a paper on it. But
Cliff dow how to make sure. You know, if it
wasn't working, Cliff could fix it. Make sure make sure,
okay that it's going. We got to go Oh, there's
no doubt. There, there's no doubt. And that's a compliment
because a lot of people don't have that. And the
truth is, I'll give him this every single day, same
(20:47):
guy when it comes to his his Yeah, he does
every single day. Yeah, Cliff doesn't miss man, so he
does the hall monitor grass I love it. I love it.
He did. He definitely took me to task. What if
what if I was you know, I was walking down
the hall right after that and Cliff was just flipping
your ass. Man, I mean it got physically. You come
(21:08):
in and you say, Cliff, I don't have my coffee,
and he just helpens up a canon. Right, It's what
I do. What I do.
Speaker 8 (21:13):
It's one of those no more time for words, Here
come the fists.
Speaker 1 (21:16):
Yeah. Yeah, do you like act like a hockey referee
and wait till you guys get to the ground and
then I just and then I'd fall down, lay on
you know, cooler heads prevail. You definitely let you and
Cliff throw.
Speaker 8 (21:28):
You definitely do the former, not the ladder. Yeah, let
us let us go to the ground and then once
that happens, it's you know, you do the old whenever
they have hockey referees miked up like they did on
the old HBO twenty four to seven. All right, boys,
all right, great job, great job, and then send us
away for our five minute miners and majors.
Speaker 1 (21:45):
Yeah, after had one two slaying on the other guy
in there talking and your teammates are banging their sticks
against the board over there to say, well, my guy
won the fight. You know, the whole thing. Oh yeah,
that's you. I'll keep an eye on that for you, Cliff.
You know, is the ten point must system in effect?
I have no idea what that three as well? That's
the old school when Marv Albert and for doctor Fredy
(22:06):
Picheck what to buy? Uh when you know my.
Speaker 10 (22:09):
Yes, yeah, it's John the Beast, Magabbi, Frank the Animal Fletcher,
I'm Marv Albert, along with the fight doctor Freddy Pacheco.
Speaker 1 (22:20):
It's the three knockdown rule. Ten point must system is right.
Speaker 10 (22:24):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (22:24):
In fact, yeah there you go, okay, all right, ten
point must system. So every round has to be judged
off ten points. That was Marv Albert, gotcha, Yeah, there
you go. So that would you know, give me a
little Marv Albert mixed and you know, introducing to the
fight doctor Freddy Pacheco. Right, so there you go. I
just want to make sure I get the three knockdown rules.
So if I come in here and Cliff knock down
my partner twice, I mean I gotta get you in
(22:46):
the corner, get you ready to go. I can't have
I can't have the ten point Muss system where you're
I understand the decision after ten rounds, but I can't
have you get knocked out right by Cliff. I can't
have news knocking sports out there. Yeah, I gotta have
you doing this right now.
Speaker 8 (23:00):
I'm with you on that. And you know I grew
up on Jim Lampley, how doctor Howard Letterman. I got
ten to nine Tyson of holy Field in that round.
Speaker 1 (23:11):
And who was the guy Larry Merchant? I remember Merchant
a ring announcer. Yeah, I mean not the ring announcer,
but the ring reporter. Right, Yeah, when when he and
Mayweather got into it.
Speaker 8 (23:22):
I'll tell you what, if I was fifty years younger,
I wull to kick your ass. Get this old man
out of here. It's like Larry. Larry didn't play around
with his post his postal interviews.
Speaker 1 (23:35):
No, Larry had a good run too. Larry had to
be tough because he's in there with all those guys
who talked trash. Right, you gotta fight you, you gotta
fight your way through it. If you're soft, they'll find it.
So yeah, I'm just making sure that Marv Albert didn't
have to. You know, tell me that the three knockdown
rules in effect, and you're down and they're counting you down.
I can't have I can't have Cliff in there pound
in his chest the next day that he sent my
(23:56):
partner to the Kanvas right right, I could get up
off of and I can't have that. So you're not
worried about Cliff kicking your ass, is what you're saying. Basic? No, no, no, no,
I'm different different, it's a different maybe one's different weight
class probably for Cliffs, right, you don't want to when
I say that, I mean you got him in height
(24:16):
and size. I mean he'd be fighting uphill with that one.
I was going to say, I mean I've probably got
the reach, you know all of that, but with the
tail the tape, you're winning the tail of the tape. Yeah. Yeah,
Well his endurance, Cliffs probably got better endurance than most
of us.
Speaker 8 (24:32):
Yeah, if it comes, if it comes to the long
game here, then he's definitely got me.
Speaker 1 (24:37):
But yeah, you're looking for a knockout in like round
three or four with Cliff. Sure, because once you get
to like like you know, around eleven or they are
we have twelve rounds these days used to be fifteen.
That's why I'm saying twelve. You think it's twelve now
he used to be fifteen. But you don't want to
get because once to eleventh round gets around his dur
his you know, his ability to to to last is
(24:58):
probably gonna you know, he'll probably get through the So
you're you're looking for an overwhelming you know, right cross right,
knock him out in the first three or four just
to end this thing because you don't want all that.
Uh you know that good cardio works from Cliff to
come into playing around, so none of us do because
Cliff will outlast. Is when it comes to that, I'm.
Speaker 8 (25:15):
Gonna say, I mean, you kind of got to do
it like the Mayweather way, you know, play defense, and
then about seven or eight. That's why I take right, yeah, right,
that's that's that's when you go in. I mean, Paqui,
you know, Pakio is if I could do it in
round one, I'm I'm I'm gonna do that.
Speaker 1 (25:27):
Fine package, I'm not gonna do that. You want to
make early work of your you know, seventy million or.
Speaker 8 (25:31):
Whatever it is, right, maybe maybe maybe I need to
head out close to where you are.
Speaker 1 (25:35):
Go find Freddie Roach at wild Card. You know, you
start training up with Freddy, So there you go.
Speaker 8 (25:40):
Yeah, that's that's that's something to ponder. But accountability, for
all sean, that's that's what we need at times. And
and look, you know, accountability can be good, but then
it's also too. It's like, uh, the coffee hasn't hit yet, buddy,
let's let's let's hold on. Let's hold on.
Speaker 1 (25:54):
He's watching on your doll. That's it. That's it. That's
it for sure.
Speaker 8 (26:00):
All right, this astros bullpen, let's get into it next.
Just how good they have been? We will do it
with numbers. And also, I mean just sherely what we've
seen all that right here. It is a Shawn Salisbury Show,
Sports Talk seven ninety. The seven to ninety listener line
in the six o'clock hour is brought to you by
one eight hundred car cash. I know that you're a
(26:20):
big hockey guy, and that was one. I mean it
was wild. I know a lot of people watched in
the astros. Maybe you flipped over as soon as it
was done. Edmonton down three to nothing at that point,
and then they rally back and take a four to
three lead. Florida scores a goal, sends it to ot
and then Edmonton sandstill able to knock in the go
(26:42):
ahead and eventual winning goal right there to win it
in overtime.
Speaker 1 (26:47):
You're a big dry title guy, I think, is that?
Speaker 8 (26:51):
Yeah, dry Sidle, I'm sorry, not sand still thank you? Yeah,
Leon dry Sidle.
Speaker 1 (26:56):
Yes, yeah, I'm a big dry title guy. I'm just saying,
but yeah, yeah, it is. It just it's worked for hockey,
Dry Cidle, you know, guy who can score. Well, you
were one hundred percent correct. I went in after the
working over that they did to Edmonton in Game three.
(27:16):
I thought this was the safest bet on the planet.
And I know and trust me meaning Edmonton taking care
of their business right in this and after that, because
what usually happens after you humiliated, you come back and
gather yourself, even though you know you're playing against a
phenomenal club, a hockey club, and then it gets down three. Oh,
if they got Sean, you're safest bet of the week.
(27:39):
But I say safe, there's no such thing. But I'm like,
I loved I loved Edmonton in the game, and the
way it turned out was great. But it was for
people out there who were like, oh, man, Sean, I
thought you said well and it turned out okay. If
you took care of you took Edmonton, and it's the
hell of a series, dude. I'm just telling you, every
time I see this Stanley Cup Finals and Steven Stanley
(28:01):
Cup Playoffs, I'm constantly reminded why it's my favorite, and
it's by far my favorite postseason baseball second. I even
like baseball postseason more than I do the NFL playoffs.
I'm with you, and you know, if we can include
obviously March Maddis is my favorite event, but that's over
a full thing. But I'm just talking about when you
(28:22):
get to a matchup, a Super Bowl, a World Series final,
Stanley Cup playoffs, NBA finals. For me, it's the Stanley
Cup playoffs. They're clear. For me, Winter baseball would fall
into the second slot, and it's probably by a fairly
good distance. I love those two better than I do that.
(28:43):
And I love college football, college football, the final and
I'm a college football like you, honk right, I mean,
it's freaking love it. But for me and you, last
night was a good reason why they're my favorite. You
saw you get down three come back, you battle, you
get hurt, you play hurt, You go into the boom
(29:04):
in between periods, guys are beat down, get out there,
go back out. The goalie starts to stand on his
head and you're back at it and you get the
clutch goal. I mean, that's it's it's phenomenal theater, man,
I'm I'm convinced. And for hockey people who don't follow it,
if you tune it, especially if it's in persons different
and I know it's hard to get tickets for the finals,
and maybe a lot of people don't have interest because
(29:25):
it's Edmonton and it's you know, the Ones, Canada, Ones America.
But it's teams that they wouldn't know, even though we
don't have a hockey club here, maybe don't know the names.
The stars aren't promoted very well, but there are stars
in this one and just the theater and the drama.
Stanley Cup Finals from here are are it now?
Speaker 8 (29:44):
I mean, I'm with you on baseball. I mean, I
can't remember who said it.
Speaker 1 (29:48):
The other day.
Speaker 8 (29:49):
Oh no, it was at the LSU event. I went
to Jared Mitchell, who played both football and baseball there
for the Tigers, and he had talked about just how
playoff baseball, how everything is heightened, every single pitch, every
single ball put.
Speaker 1 (30:02):
Yeah, because the drama all the time in between to
think about it.
Speaker 8 (30:05):
Right, yeah, yeah, So it was he was because I
had asked him, I said, what what was the moment
that stands out more to you? Beating Ohio State in
that National Championship or beating Texas NET Series in two
thousand and nine, And he had he brought up that
point about baseball. He goes, there can be silent parts
in a football game, but baseball it's everything. It's it's
every pitch, it's all of those in the postseason. So
(30:27):
now definitely there with you.
Speaker 1 (30:28):
Stepping off, stepping off the mound, I mean you know that,
it's just, yeah, the hell, I could even make the
argument the college baseball drama is at the top of
the list. Yeah, I mean, you can be down seven
enough and end up winning twelve to ten. It's crazy,
it's crazy, but yeah, you give me, you give me
hockey Stanley Cup Finals. It's the only season ticket I
(30:50):
want for the most part, and so I just love hockey, man.
So one day maybe we'll get it here. If not,
if you don't like hockey, but or you like hockey
and they're not sure, tune in and what's finals, you're
getting a hell of it. You're getting your money's worth, absolutely,
absolutely for sure.
Speaker 8 (31:05):
This Astros bullpen last night, Josh Hater gives up that
home run in the ninth. That was a streak of
eleven straight innings without giving up a single earned run.
We've talked about it, We've sung their praises all year long, Shan.
I mean, it just continues to show you what the
strength of this team is, which I think with the
injuries you have and we'll wait and see on East
Soak Perettis, it is something that hopefully is a sign
(31:30):
of good things to come.
Speaker 1 (31:31):
There's no question about it. And I mean I don't
know about you, but confidence wise, whether it's a guy
coming to the plate or a group of guys, or
a starting pitching or your bullpen, how can you not
be confident? As an Astros fan, with the way the
bullpen's pitching and you know, Hater gave up a solo
home run. That's what's great about a two run lead. Okay,
(31:52):
you could afford that. It's just it's a pitch. They
still got to you know, get more base runners, but
you know, stress, But he's been really fantastic this year.
Looks like the guy we've always seen as a closer
from Milwaukee into San Diego. And the sign of the
health and getting right and winning close games and having
a bullpen. That's that. When I say healthy, I mean
(32:15):
healthy good and keeping their health and not beating them
down innings wise, it's going to be very difficult for
opposing teams to catch up to this team when they
got a you know, a two or three run lead.
It's impressive, man. And a lot of these names were
not on your Bengal card before the season started to
be given doing what they're doing. I mean some are
(32:35):
on it, but I'm talking about that there At times
their performance has just been dominant and aside from the
solo home run, they did their job again.
Speaker 8 (32:43):
Yeah, and I mean, you know you get that in
the Vargas double there where I mean off the bat,
I'm like, no way, you didn't just give up the
run to tie it.
Speaker 1 (32:52):
I mean, Sean, just as I told you, ressful situations,
but he didn't cross the plate. That's the key, No,
and that's exactly it.
Speaker 8 (32:59):
I mean we talked about that earlier, but I mean
it's for the good things that we've talked about where
I've said, hey, I want to have that show where
we come in here and we say the Astros bats
carried the team, which they did the night before. I mean,
even though you got good pitching out of Ryan Gusto,
that can't be overshadowed. But then it's also you know,
(33:20):
for this one too, with Josh Hater, there's going to
be a show or even shows plural where he doesn't
convert the save, he blows the save. It happens one
hundred and sixty two games. You can't be perfect all
the way through. It's going to happen. Mariano Rivera blue saves.
Speaker 1 (33:34):
It happens, Yeah, and you know he's what he's done,
and you know why they remember last year. I remember
the first the first game he came out as a
as an Astro. I think even Bingo Bango bongo and
retired to side with three strikeouts or two or three strikeouts.
He was it was his very first save, and then
(33:57):
he had times had gone through struggles where he had
a loss, a blown save, and on this show'd be
and I get it. People did not like to move Well, well,
we moved Pressley out of you know how it goes
with and it's it's heightened because it was early season.
People are tuned in and it's a new guy here,
just like what Christian Walker's going through, but even more
high because you're the guy closing out of game. And
(34:19):
so even though he had a lot of saves, there
were some people that had disdained for paying him that
kind of money going getting it. But it once again
you know the Dana Brown, who's so good at scouting
town of what they did that it was going to
settle in. And he started off this year as an
elite top line closer does and he's kind of squelched
(34:40):
a lot of that stuff that at times happened last year,
even though he still had a really good season saves wise.
But they do happen, and it's it's inevitable that at
some point in time a save will get blown or
a loss when they have a tie and they want
to keep it close. They want him to keep it
close so they have a chance in extra innings. Right,
so it will happen. But even though you do go
(35:02):
through stress, everyone does. I was in San Diego for
all those years at Trevor Hoffman. I mean, you know
it wasn't throwing ninety nine mile in our fastballs. He's
throwing such a heavy change up, I mean, getting people
out every now and then you blow safe. So but
he didn't. I mean it was a little, like I said,
it got stressful. How many times we've seen that in
a closer in Major League Baseball? But the key is,
even with somebody standing on bas or you've given up
(35:24):
a solo home run as well, to close it out.
That's your job. It doesn't stay closed out. It's going
to be ugly plenty of times. It's when it's not pretty,
the optics tell us all something wrong. I'm sure somebody
woke up to say what's wrong with Josh Hater And
I can tell you this, absolutely nothing. The guys get paid.
Sometimes they hit good pitches, and sometimes you miss your
(35:45):
zone and stay homer And that's why it goes, and
thank goodness, the other one stayed in the ballpark and
here we are. So it may not be perfect, but
the w twenty five games from now is going to say, well,
it look perfect in the books. He got in and out,
So hater's not a concern of mine at all.
Speaker 8 (36:04):
No, not even close. And neither is this bullpen. For
as good as they pitched this season, Brian and Brad,
who's been outstanding. I mean, even as of late Sean
Duban getting high leverage innings, and I mean, you've been
able to count on Brian King.
Speaker 1 (36:17):
It's a good thing.
Speaker 8 (36:18):
It absolutely is a good thing, and the Astros are
hoping that it continues to stay that way the rest
of the way this season. He has played game sixty
eight last night, so still a long way to go
here in the season. But your eight games above five hundred,
four and a half games up on the Angels and
the Mariners. All right with the Astros starting rotation, though,
what if I told you that we've seen this story before.
(36:39):
We're gonna hop into DeLorean, We're gonna go back a
few years and we'll talk about it right here. It
is The Sean Salisbury Show, Sports Talk seven to ninety.
Speaker 2 (36:49):
This Sean Salisbury Show continues to continue.
Speaker 1 (36:53):
Flux capacitor.
Speaker 8 (36:54):
Well, in this case where we're going, we do need
rhads because we're going back to the Astro nineteen ninety
seven season. That's the Dome Days. But that was a
season where you had some pitchers that were dealing with
some injury issues. I think Shane Reynolds had some injuries
that year, maybe even Mike Hampton did as well. But
you had four guys who made over thirty starts, Darryl Kyle,
(37:17):
Mike Hampton, Shane Reynolds, and I've yet to mention the
fourth name. Chris Holt was a guy that you had
brought up the year previous and you'd used him out
of the bullpen, and this was when you decided to
put him in the starting rotation goes even further where
Ramon Garcia that season had to make twenty starts for
the Astros. Donnie Wall was somebody that normally they did
(37:40):
not count on. He was a long relief guy, middle
of relief. Any of those things out of the Astros
bullpen roles weren't quite as defined back then as they
are now. I mean, yeah, you did have setup men
he did have closers, but now it seems like it's
even a little bit more strategic for teams in the
way that they handled their bullpen, but that there's a
season where you had to count on numerous guys to
(38:03):
be able to try to make starts for you because
of injuries that you had, And it reminds me a
lot of this Astro season where now you're counting on
three guys that coming into this year. If you had
given me the names of Colton Gordon, Brandon Walter, and
Ryan Gusto and said these guys are going to factor
into your season, I would have absolutely remembered Donnie Wall,
(38:25):
Chris Holt, Ramon Garcia and even for one start that
season because it continued into the following season.
Speaker 1 (38:32):
Jose Lima, Yeah, but that is on good teams most
of the time. It's rare that you know you're going
to get your same guys all the time. That's why
you talk about eight, nine, ten bits. So that's always
been true. The difference is they used to go longer
and start more. How many staffs will have four guys
(38:55):
making thirty starts this year, I mean I'd have to
go look at how many pitchers even made that Yeah,
maybe there's more than I think, but I don't feel that.
I mean, it sure doesn't feel that way. I'm talking
about round baseball. So, yes, those three names you just mentioned,
they weren't on your Bengal card the first two weeks
(39:17):
of the season, the first month of the season, let
alone spring training when the game Gusta was but mentioned
those two names again, Dan, the other guys are you're
talking about the current ones yet? Yeah? Yeah, gorg Yeah, Colton, Gordon,
Brandon Walter along the way right, So you're with with
with Gordon and Walter. Did if I said, namely twelve
(39:43):
guys that could start they were going to start for them,
you wouldn't name either one of them. No, No, Gusto,
we knew, you know obviously with the bullpen and starting.
So the point is in order to look what we
always talk about the other guy in a lot of sportsmen. Oh,
it's not that guy, but the guy that's the sixth man,
or the guy who's your your you know, third leading
(40:04):
score it's or your second leading rusher and football, so
those guys that makes up the core of your team.
It just does on every It's not the four superstars
at the top of the four guys who you know,
have a journeyman at the bottom as the guys who
are in between, who are the core your roster. And
the truth is there's more non Fromber and Hunter Browns
(40:26):
than there is Frommer and Hunter Browns on pitching staffs.
And it really is. And this team's no different. Yet.
The difference with this team and other teams is those
non hundred Browns and Frombers find ways to get wins
and get starts and get hits if they're in every
and everyday player. So and they they the culture. And
I know it sounds weird, but people in other cities
(40:48):
aren't as fortunate to have this. But like you said,
two fifths really three fists, but two fifths are your
starting staff. There's no way on God's green earth you
could have gone. You could have had the taking a
pull of ten thousand people and say what will their
impact be on the roster this year? Let alone, Gusto,
I'm talking about the two and in the of the
(41:10):
three we mentioned, how many of them would people have said, yeah,
they're gonna they're going to figure into this thing this year?
Not many? And it's a it's an impressive how they
just find ways to get it done and find these guys,
whether it's form major league or somewhere else and bringing them,
whether it's you know, through the system, minor league system.
It's impressive. And right now they're not only at times
(41:33):
relying on they're counting on them. And it's going to
be a nice day when when they get all this
depth and then have to make tough decisions over good
pitchers and good players. But can't wait till we see
it because they've been through their plenty of their fair
share of injuries. It's kind of nice when they get healthy,
but they're now finding a way. What you also learn
in this when guys do get hurt, although you don't
(41:54):
like that, part of it is other guys, I mean,
rear their head and you find out that you can
trust people that you didn't know you could trust, maybe
going out and giving you seven innings Brian Gusta. So
it's pretty cool to see. You'd like to have everybody
healthy and make the tough decision on this guy's good
and so is this guy. But the depth and the
(42:16):
ability to have guys come in and do spot stuff
for you is huge. They're not going to get thirty starts,
but I can tell you this, it's impressive what they've done,
and however many they're going to make, it's going to
be a big part of where this asteris team is
going to end.
Speaker 8 (42:30):
Now definitely, And I mean, as you mentioned about, you know,
trying to get those guys back and have that depth
and having plenty of names to be able to call upon.
That is something that I know that Joe Aspota is
looking forward to, and hopefully in short order we shall see.
Speaking of one of those guys, I mean, you don't
want to be without them, but if you are well,
(42:50):
then it's incumbent upon these guys to step up.
Speaker 1 (42:53):
We'll talk about him here.
Speaker 8 (42:54):
To start hour or two of The Seawn Salisbury Show
on a Friday, Sports Talk seven ninety ADM.
Speaker 9 (43:00):
E Houston, ADHD TW Houston and iHeart Radio station.
Speaker 11 (43:06):
And the Rocket Sports Talk seven ninety your home for
your home teams.
Speaker 9 (43:12):
From the Parsons Imagine Next Studios.
Speaker 1 (43:19):
Saulsbury, Salisbury, Houston. Okay, let's do this.
Speaker 4 (43:26):
Sean Salisbury to usc true longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury, Dan Matthews, Jesus,
this is the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 8 (43:41):
Triple e Emmanuel Elmore hanging out with you this morning.
The Astros for three winners over the White Sox at
dyke In Park. They take the series two out of three,
twins coming in town for a weekend three NBA Finals
Game four tonight in Indianapolis, and the Pacers with a
two to one lead on the Thunder in that series
and Texan safety Jimmy Ward facing a felony family violence
(44:04):
charge in Montgomery County. Someone three two one two five
seven ninety is the number two get in and Sean
We've only mentioned it just a couple of times, but
we did see last night estak pretis leaving the game
there after his final app bat grounds into the double play,
pulls up lame as he is going to first base,
(44:25):
and I mean, I told you immediately, my you know,
just my mind started to go to a bad place, thinking, oh, no,
like this is really really not good for him. I mean,
because lower leg issues. You're just kind of like that
could be anything. I didn't know if he rolled his
ankle coming out of the box, or if even worse,
(44:46):
if maybe he snapped in Achilles. But you saw him
come off the field. They showed him in the dugout
and he looked reluctant to leave, which I'm sure they
are probably finally to a point like hey, dude, you
need to go into the training room. Let's at least
start to get the evaluation going and see where things
go there. Mauricio Dubond comes into the game play third base,
finishes the thing out, and after the game he had
(45:06):
Joe Aspatas saying that Perettis told him he'll be good
to go today. But I mean, it's been determined it
is a left hamstring issue. Severity unknown. They'll know more today,
but if it is a hamstring that probably means an
iel stint. At least my mind, I'm believing that he's
going to be on the IL. I'm hoping that's not
(45:28):
the case, but usually when that happens, those soft tissue injuries,
you might have been able to skip one for now,
but eventually it'll get you. And if that's the case, boy,
what a massive hole that is for the Astros.
Speaker 1 (45:40):
No, there's no doubt, and I don't I'm not real
sure if I'm gonna, I'm I may wait till I
get the diagnosis of this injury. Okay, soft tissue struck.
I mean, if it is a hamstring, they can have
a tendency to linger, and they can be annoying because
(46:01):
if you come back too soon, they hang around you
for a lot longer. The question is hamstring strain, hamstring pull,
hamstring tear. Big difference in all three. Hamstring strain, it's okay.
How do you feel the quick twitch moves? If a
ball's hit to your right, can you make that move
(46:24):
and get to you know, get down the line and
stab the ball back handed? What happens once in the hole?
Your easy way? The play side, the glove side. Can
you that quick twitch that's where the hand me and
the soft tissue come in. Or when you've got to
burst out of the box on a hit. Those are
the things you're worried about, and in truth, you really
don't know until you know, okay, as it healed. It's
(46:46):
been ten days, it's been a week, it's been two weeks.
But the first time at the plate, you know, you
hit a slow roller, pounce it out of the box,
or you hit a gapper and you got to take
two and how quickly you get out of back the
box and that quick twitch that that's that's usually the test,
because in truth, even when you're testing a handy while
you're practicing, you're still a little worried about that first boom,
quick explosive step. So I don't know the severity. And
(47:09):
since they say it's day to day, I'm going to
sit back and wait till we get a full because
I've I've allowed these things to you know, go from
one way go the other way before, so we'll see.
I have zero idea about the severity of it. If
one guy is saying he'd be ready to go tomorrow
meeting piitis and it's a hamstring, and like you said,
(47:30):
it seems that they and this team is going to
air on the side of caution for the player. They
are going to air it. They just are so depending
on the severity of it. And I always have a
called a three tier strain pull tear. Which one is it?
And if it's if it's the strain or the mild,
(47:50):
then it is a day to day thing. I pulled hamstring,
he's not playing today. I pulled hamstring, he's not played
for a week. And depending on how pulled, it is longer.
And I'm not a but that's you. You're correct about that.
Now hamstring tear. You can. If it was that severe,
you wouldn't see him before the All Star break period.
(48:11):
You just wouldn't. So, and what you don't want is
a strain to become a tear because you didn't give
the strain enough rest. They're fragile, soft tissue. Stuff's fragile,
especially for a quick twitch position. And you know, and
selfish reasons for a guy who's having a good year
for this team. So we'll sit back and get an
idea after they go through their monitoring of it and
(48:33):
then give us the full diagnosis. Hopefully it's just a
hamstring strain and it's a day to day thing.
Speaker 8 (48:40):
Well, and here's the good news too, if indeed you
do decide to go I L and be extra cautious
with this, which would be fine. Your four and a
half games up on the division. I mean, you've been
able to give yourself that cushion that if it was
something that is going to be ten days, two weeks,
you're able to someone be able to keep things afloat
(49:02):
during that time. And I mentioned it, you know, during
these thirteen games in thirteen days. Now you've got ten
more of them as of right now. The only team
that's above five hundred you're going to be playing is
the one you're facing this weekend. After that, you go
to Sacramento take on the A's. They've not been very
good this year, and I mean we're kind of in
wait and see mode with the Angels to see when
(49:22):
indeed they are going to finally have their slip back?
Speaker 1 (49:26):
Right? Can we play Colorado for like eight games too?
Could we do that? That'd be great. It'd be great
to add that on to the skin, wouldn't it. Let's
just sneak by and grab eight games on the way
out of Sacramento. Can we do that? Just an eight
game series with Colorado and go eight? No, would you
like that? I'd be great nice with it. Yeah, it'd
be great. But these are all winnable. You're right when
(49:46):
we said going in, I mean eight win, I mean
eight wins in this of the thirteen to me is
not only feasible but needed. And if Preadis is out
for a couple of weeks, the question is who's plugged
in there regularly? But yes, the four and a half
game cushion, and we will eventually see who the Angels are.
But maybe this year is different. Maybe it is a
(50:08):
four horse race in the division. Maybe the Angels are
going to hang around, you know, get the you know,
getting better and a veteran KG coach who's seen a
lot of baseball in his life, so maybe and I'll
make for a fun and the hell of a division.
So you're obviously not going to play the Angels and
think that it's a it's a buy series. But you
also can't go into the series thinking that, and especially
(50:31):
a team like in Sacramento Oaklands small Ballpark. You know
what's good? You sure as that wouldn't You don't want
to split or come out of that one not winning
that series, because then all of a sudden, this conversation
you and I are having becomes more what the hell happened?
And I think they'll take care of their business. So
I think it's a legitimate eight or nine win of
the thirteen. I think they can pull that off, and
it'd be nice to get that cushion and hope that
(50:52):
Paradis is just a small it's a minor thing that
in the next handful of as he is back, but
cushion does matter, and they got a chance to extend
that throughout this year. I mean throughout the next ten
games or so well.
Speaker 8 (51:03):
I mean, and this is where Christian Walker and Yannard
as their struggles have you know, been amplified. This is
where you really look at those guys and say, hey,
next gear need it, which last night they did. I mean,
Yiner three hits out of him, that was great to
see and Christian Walker able to get a little jam
shot single to center there for his final one to
(51:25):
go one for four. But I mean, we've talked a
lot about those guys and trying to get even more
out of those guys.
Speaker 1 (51:35):
Yeah, you're correct, and you will get more. I mean
you've seen. I mean, Christian Walker hopes when he gets rolling,
the ball will leave the ballpark and hopefully he gets
a little bit lucky, but he he will start to produce.
And I think that we're pretty aware of that, and
obviously Gynor d is the expectations for us is you know,
(51:56):
he's put him through the roof. He's been a really
good productive player since he's become everyday guy, and I
expect that to improve. And for me, Jordon's a no brainer.
Winnie selfie, it's a no brainer. As we've spent talking
and we've talked about it since Jordan's been hurt. Once
the middle of the lineup gets going, it'll be amazing
how the optics of a fan base, and all of
(52:17):
us a four and a half game lead, we still
haven't seen their best baseball, not even close. Eight games
over five hundred, still haven't seen their best baseball because
the middle of the order has not played anywhere near
it's best baseball, nowhere near it. They've given you flashes of,
but nowhere near sustaining it. And when they do, and
if you can still get a Painty at the top
and a Jake Myers at the bottom doing their thing,
(52:40):
the rest in between will take care of itself and
you'll win a lot of games where you only give
up two or three runs because you'll score more. But
the optics will change for the middle. When the middle
of the lineup's going. There's a sense of more relief
to in a fan base, just because you want your
stars to perform. And those three guys have not lived
up to anywhere near what we're used to, but they
will at some point, and when that happens, if it's
(53:03):
all at once, it'll be a really good thing.
Speaker 8 (53:06):
Absolutely, And it is a really good thing for you
right now, because the Astros sit at thirty eight and
thirty on the season, just hoping they can be able
to build upon the success they've had throughout sixty game
or sixty eight games to this point. All right, coming up,
there was something that came down the pike yesterday entertainment
wise that it sounds great to some. I'm not so convinced.
(53:28):
We'll talk about it here. It is the Shawn Salisbury Show,
Sportstock seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (53:35):
Let's go on.
Speaker 4 (53:36):
This is the Sewan Salisbury Show. All right, Sean, what
are you hearing out there now?
Speaker 11 (53:45):
The Salisbury takeout, Salisbury takeout on the.
Speaker 2 (53:49):
Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 8 (53:54):
It is Sean Salisbury Show, Sports Socks seven ninety. Astros
for three winners over the White Sox. They take that
series two of three twins in town over the weekend.
NBA Finals Game four tonight in Indianapolis.
Speaker 1 (54:07):
Pacers with a two to one lead in that series.
Speaker 8 (54:10):
And JJ spawn still your leader at the US Open
as the second round from Oakmont is underway.
Speaker 1 (54:17):
He is at four under. All right, Sean.
Speaker 8 (54:21):
So yesterday I am heading home and I get the
news on my phone and I look really quick and
see Spaceballs is coming back. As the announcement came down.
Deadline had the announcement as they were able to catch
up with mel Brooks. And it is going to be
(54:43):
a return of the mid eighties cult classic, which of
course is a parody of the Star Wars franchise.
Speaker 1 (54:49):
And in that.
Speaker 8 (54:50):
One, of course, you had John Candy, you had Rick Moranis,
you had Bill Pullman. Well, the good news is is
Pullman at least the older Pullman and Maranis who went
away from acting to be able to focus on his
family as a single father. After pretty much I think
it was the final Honey, I shrunk the kids is
when he decided that's it, giving this up. I'm going
(55:13):
to be a father, I'm going to get out of
the business. And people wondered for years, where did this
guy go? Well, Marianas is going to make his return
as Dark Helmet. Where I'm not so convinced. Sean Is
you've seen the movie. I'm assuming most of us have
seen space Balls. I mean you remember what it was.
It was innuindo, inappropriate jokes, just everything that back then
(55:37):
didn't necessarily seem to offend people as it probably would now.
Speaker 1 (55:43):
And The only way.
Speaker 8 (55:44):
That I will be convinced that this is still going
to be good is you have to keep it the
same raunchy comedy because blazing saddles history of the world.
Anything else that mel Brooks has done. You know that
that's going to be a part of it. And he
almost won if he'd been away for so long because well,
he wasn't comfortable being able to do that same type
(56:05):
of humor these days.
Speaker 1 (56:08):
Well, here here's how I feel. First off, it's always
tough to repeat the first space It'll because there's verse Spaceballs,
Happy Gilmore is about to face I mean, how do
you know that movie's coming out? Sandler's new movie will Lember.
He waited all these years and has kind of resisted
doing Happy Gilmore right too, Well, how will that be
when it comes to, you know, Spaceballs and having this
(56:31):
one with Well, you'd love to have the original cast,
but unfortunately John Candy, we don't get the original cast.
Joan Rivers, but I'm one hundred yet, Joan Rivers, I'm
one hundred percent agree. Here's the way I feel about
people that will get offended by comedy or a movie.
Don't go I'm gonna I'll go because I want to
see how you know my expectations of Spaceballs. I thought
(56:51):
it was funny, I loved it, and you've seen it
a million times, and I'll go because I'm an avid
movie goard. I'm one of those guys. I'm gonna judge
it by because I'd like movies. Even if it gives
me twenty minutes or two hours of stupid humor that's
not going to win an award. I don't care if
I laugh and gives me away from the normal doings
of the day I'm in. But I wouldn't if if
(57:12):
I'm them, I would not care with the with the society,
or if they're like, oh, they're offended. Everybody's offended by something.
If we continue to worry about who's offended by something
you say, then it's amazing how many how many people
will be all worry about the You know, a group
of people that are offended by something. If you're offended
(57:34):
by it, say it and do whatever you got to do.
But if if I'm putting a movie together and you're
offended by it, You've got a choice. You don't have
to go. You don't have to go. Plenty of people
will you don't have to go so we're so sensitive,
and you're right. If you're going to do it, don't
don't try to screwed around the issues of oh, well,
what if we say that now, can we we said it? Then,
well then then you shouldn't have brought out space balls
(57:56):
to Okay, do it the right way. And for those
who are offended easily and don't like old school of
humor or don't like something to make, well, they can't
say that about religion or what have you. Well, yeah,
they're called comedians for a reason. It's a movie. Okay,
it's a movie, and nobody says it's real. We don't
have guys wearing helmets and all that stuff doing with
spaceballs and John Candy did. Okay, it's not real, so
(58:18):
take it for what it's worth. That's how screwed up
our society is. We actually have to worry about what
a comedian says on stage, or what a show does
or a movie does because you don't want to watch it.
If you're worried about kids during primetime hours, then your
kids should be watching something else. If you don't want
your kid on your phone, take the phone away. If
you don't want you and your husband, or you and
(58:40):
your buddy are offended because they said something off colored
about race, religion, gender, whatever it is. Oh well, it's
a movie. Okay, it's a movie. People like the last
and if you didn't think it was funny, you don't
go to a second time. So that's my philosophy. We're
so worried about what if I offend somebody. Well, if
you offend somebody, you're rob Peter. If you do it
(59:00):
the wrong way. If you put out a movie and
somebody doesn't want to go, you know, nobody's force you
to see it. Nobody's force somebody to see it. And
if you don't like the raunchy humor, some do, some don't,
then I suggest you go to another movie. It's okay,
no big deal. I'm not gonna bug bug you for
not going. They'll bug me for going. And if you
if you're offended easily, then you should probably stay in
(59:21):
lock your door, put two dead bolts on it, and
not worry about life. Okay, that's you. And what we
choose to be offended by is fascinating to me. I
don't get offended by that stuff. Comedians there anybody else,
no matter what they're talking about. I find stuff funny,
and if I don't, I won't go back and see
them same way to the movie. But let it go.
I'm not If we're basing movies on people being offended
(59:41):
by them, then we'll never have good movies anymore. If
a comedian has to stand up there like they did
during that fake COVID crap that we had to go
through and mask across the street driving down in cars, okay,
and listen to that fraud fauci talk, okay, if we
have to, If that's how we got to live life
like we did, then ooh, and then guess what. Everybody
(01:00:01):
was offended. Comedians had to take a back seat. Nobody
was able to make a joke about stuff because what
was going on in society and all the stuff that
was going on. Guess what. Our best comedians don't care
what everybody thinks. And that's why they're called comedians. That's
their job. And it's the same as movies. I like
good comedy and we'll love this, and they don't like it,
don't go. And if you're easily offended, then then I
(01:00:22):
guess you better hang around somebody who doesn't make any difference.
Or doesn't make you laugh or offend, doesn't offend you ever,
then best you lock yourself in your house and don't
leave and keep your TV and phone off because you
may listen to this show and get offended sometimes, but
not for those reason. It's just because because you got
beat the game and we talked about whatever. But you
get my point. If you don't we want you here
(01:00:43):
because we're not going to do the rocket comedy. If
you don't want to go to the movie, don't go.
People are too easily offended. It's not that big a deal.
Don't take it personal.
Speaker 8 (01:00:52):
No, And I mean, and that's the whole thing of comedy,
is that. I mean you are sometimes supposed to be
made uncomfortable in comedy. Yes, like that's the point of it.
That's the no holds barred nature of it. I mean,
you know there's a reason. For example, Joe Rogan has
the Comedy Club in Austin, and even at his shows
it's the same deal. No cell phones not allowed. I mean,
because it's not a you know, oh, we don't want
(01:01:14):
this getting out. It's a A they want you to
enjoy the show, but b yeah, he doesn't want to
deal with it. Because he doesn't want to put guardrails
on his comedians getting up on stage. Oh man, I
can't believe he or she told that joke. Well, get
over it, because you need to know what you're getting
into ahead of time. That's what comedy is.
Speaker 1 (01:01:32):
More of that. We need more of the people who
run comedy clubs or if you're having a party at
your hot whatever, we need more of that. And I'll
tell you what we need. Less of videoing. While somebody's
getting their head kicked in by five people video how
about jumping and protect that person? Would it's just the
crazy full circle in Rogan's one hundred percent correct. You're
not bringing a phone into this comedy area so you
(01:01:54):
can post it for your liking and likes and clicks.
And all of a sudden somebody got offended up realizing
it's a comedy show because they're don't pay attention to anything,
but they found another way to be offended, and somebody
writes an articles for you know, Joe's got to sit
there and deal with it. Listen. It's not mandatory to
listen to comedy. It's not mandatory to go to the
movie theater. For me, I like laughter and I think
(01:02:16):
I'm coomfortable is good. We all talk about being get comfortable.
Be it uncomfortable. Life could be that way sometimes. Listen,
deal with it. I'm so tired of having to cater
to five people because five million people are worried that
five people are offended over something that's not even aimed
at them. Deal with it. Laugh, okay, just like any
of us would. It's okay to laugh at yourself and
be self deprecating and deal with comedy at times like this,
(01:02:39):
what's going on in a country, it's okay. You can
still make fun of politicians, comedians, you can. You can
make fun of Well, you're making fun of what's going
on in LA. That's that serious. Of course, it's serious stuff.
And you know what, some of us sit back and
see all the serious stuff that need a laugh, knowing
it's called comedy. Okay, it's comedy for a reason. So
it's the same as movies. I'm past the port anymore.
(01:03:01):
You know. I'd live kindly, treat people kindly. But if
you're offended by something somebody says and that's their opinion,
then choose somebody else to hang around. I just don't
understand it. I don't get offended very easily.
Speaker 8 (01:03:11):
Well, some people need to laugh a little bit more. Yeah,
that's that's usually when it comes down to a lot
of times with people who are all, I'm deeply offended
by this. Why don't you just take a good laugh
every while? Okay, it's not that serious. It's not going
to directly affect you, right.
Speaker 1 (01:03:26):
And you know what, for good for comedy For every
time everybody's offended, I'm saying thanks. I needed to be
if I needed that laugh. Okay, So you know, wow,
how dare you? How dare you well? How dare you
just like? You make us laugh? I need it? Give
me more? Okay, give me more of it? I was lovely?
How dare you know? How dare you right? Right? How
would Sam Kennison and Richard Pryor and George Carlin deal
(01:03:50):
with this? You know what they'd say? They'd all middle
finger yet and still doing what they do. Yeah, and
those who want to show up would be a packed house.
And those who are offended by Sam's yelling or somebody's cussing,
or Carlon's brilliant or Richard Pryor's phenomenal comedy. So you
know what you do have a choice. Everything's not about you,
(01:04:10):
and all the jokes and stuff aren't about you. I
just I don't understand, man. And you know what a
little laughter sometimes can take away from the bitter beer face.
Yeah it's okay. It's okay to have a laugh at
somebody else's expense when we know it's for comedy, it's
for fun. Short of just being a derogatory you just
beat kid, you're beating people down, like in a roast
and your kids. I mean, there's a way to do
(01:04:31):
it in a movie. Just it's spaceballs, dude, come on now,
Raunchy kainin Melbrook. It's strigging space maalls. Okay, So anybody
that's a fitted by that probably needs a hobby, Okay,
needs a hobby.
Speaker 8 (01:04:44):
Not everything is so literal, people, all right, some things,
some things are funny, some people believe it or not.
Don't take themselves that seriously. I mean, you might take
yourself seriously, and that's your business. Do whatever you want.
But yeah, it's fine. Lewis Pullman is also supposed to
be a part of it. Of course. He was in
Top Gun Maverick. He's Bill's son, Keiky Palmer. No word
(01:05:06):
on what her role is going to be. Josh gadd
is also going to be part of it, and I
believe he's part of the uh the group that wrote
the script for space Balls. So the only other request
I would make on this, and I think he would
be perfect in it, and I think he would help
us accomplish our goals is Obviously you don't have John Candy.
You're not gonna be able to reprise his role as Barf.
(01:05:27):
Shane Gillis needs.
Speaker 1 (01:05:28):
To be Barf. That'd be great because he because.
Speaker 8 (01:05:32):
You know that Gillis is not going to do the
rins and repeat comedy. Gillis will absolutely say, oh, if
we're doing this, we're doing it my way.
Speaker 1 (01:05:40):
Yeah, let it rip. You can't try to emulate John Candy.
It won't work. You got to do it. You're that's
exactly right. So that'd be a really good choice, would
be a good choice. I wish John Candy was allowed
to do reprise this role again. Don't you to double
down on it? Be great to bring that back. Fortunately, Yep,
(01:06:00):
bring bring back the old ninety six er. Always always
when I'm eating Yeah, Yeah, love John Candy. Boy, Do
I miss him? Yes? A fun watch?
Speaker 8 (01:06:11):
Absolutely, he was. He was a He was a mog,
half man, half dog. He was his own best friend.
Speaker 1 (01:06:17):
That's what he was. What a classic? What a classic?
So come on, guys, do it right and ladies do
it right. It'll be great to see Rick Moran back.
Speaker 8 (01:06:24):
Yes, yes, absolutely now I've missed him over these years.
I mean My Blue Heaven. He was great in that, great,
great in a lot of different movies.
Speaker 1 (01:06:33):
Right thing, dude taking time away to be a single
father and take care of those kids. Acting can wait?
Good on him? Leave the people wanting more so.
Speaker 8 (01:06:41):
Uh, the triumphant return of Rick moranis so yes, please
do Spaceball's right, that's what we want, all right. Coming
up here on the Sean Salisbury Show. Somebody said something
this week that was less untoward than the first person
who said something like this, But they both kind of
had the same thing, and I think they're wrong. We'll
talk about it here. It is The Shawn Salisbury Show,

Speaker 8 (01:09:22):
I just I love the last name so much that
I mostly just call him Koepka, Koepka.
Speaker 1 (01:09:27):
I sometimes like to call him Coepka. I mean, yeah,
I do like to know Ao hyphen Epka Coepca. Right,
But yeah, don't discount Brooksy in this now long enough,
strong enough to hit it out of the rough when
he's going good, confident, as we well know. I think
he's Uh, if you're looking for a futures thing, you
(01:09:48):

Lee.
Speaker 1 (01:09:51):
I don't you know you're gonna get less odds in
your favor money wise because of the leaderboard, but you
could you could make some money maybe off Brooks. I
think that's a good choice this week. I do.
Speaker 8 (01:10:01):
Yeah, you're right about the five time major winner twice
the US Open, three times at the PGA.
Speaker 1 (01:10:06):
I thought he had a green jacket, right, rom does
he does not? That's right, That's right.
Speaker 8 (01:10:12):
So he's tied for second a couple of times there
at the Masters, and his highest finish was tied for
fourth at the Open.
Speaker 1 (01:10:20):
Over across the pond.
Speaker 8 (01:10:22):
We'll get to what I had teased out in the
next segment, because I do want to give us some
runway to that. But Roger wants to weigh in here
this morning. Talks to Mastros.
Speaker 12 (01:10:31):
Roger, good morning, Good morning fellas on this gloomy week.
Hopefully we can see some sunshine shoot. But ain't no
golf being played at h Down any time over here.
But anyway, uh yeah, east ok, peratis man, that's the
power plan of the Houston Astros right now. And yeah,
it's all about next man up. And I don't see
(01:10:52):
anybody you're calling up for anybody, it's going to be
a substitute for Etock. So well, that being said, I
just hope that the wait is not too much to
carry for mister mister Christian Walker, because you know it,
it's up to him now to be that that that anchor.
And I'm just hoping he's able to step up to
(01:11:13):
the challenge because I don't know how long he's acts
going to be gone with that hamster, and hopefully it's
not long. But yeah, they're looking good man. I just
it's always something with us now, we just you know,
we keep going though we're resilient. I just hope that
the shrank Houst Roder Fellas and have a good one.
Be safe out there, guys too.
Speaker 1 (01:11:31):
Run Yeah, get the first off. That's not very the lead.
Get that weather cleared up so Roger and I can
talk golf and he can go out and play. We
gotta get that. That's a fact. Let's get that weather
cleared up.
Speaker 13 (01:11:45):
I uh.
Speaker 1 (01:11:46):
And I'm hoping Christian Walker goes through that phase where
he's carrying the team on his back when this happens.
And we're also hoping to pro what's prede is that
fourteen or fifteen home runs? Now he got fifteen home
run last night was home run? You're right on it.
So you and the numbers this morning, you know. So
I'm a I got a mind like a steel trap.
(01:12:08):
Even if I don't remember, it's like, is it fourteen
or fifteen? I can get you in somewhere in the
neighborhood Danny.
Speaker 13 (01:12:15):
For me. There you go.
Speaker 1 (01:12:17):
But he is and I'm not a huge stats guy,
and I think there's a lot of ways that it
is not usually thrown for four hundred yards, so that
usually means you're playing from behind. Is with the paradous thing.
Let's hope it isn't. But Roger hit the one word
that we've talked about. But this team, to me, we
hear grit from Dana Brown. Talented, well cop managed and
(01:12:41):
coach uh developed. You go through culture here at all.
To me, since I've lived in this town and watched
this team go from when I first got here to
to struggle to every year they are a World Series
uh mentioned or have a chance that's going in regardless
(01:13:02):
of the rapper doesn't change the names on the Rapper may,
but the Rapper has not changed to how they go
about their business. Resilient is exactly what this team is.
You can't go through and I'm sure plenty of teams
label that on their team too, But it's hard. I mean,
I'm just going through franchises and maybe I've missed some
(01:13:24):
and I may be wrong, but there can't be many
who've lost what many would consider for a minute the
best right hander in baseball. I mean Cole has had
that label. I mean Cy Young, he's damn good. Springer
who is an All Star center fielder, ultra gifted All
(01:13:45):
Star shortstop, and postseason both he and Springer postseason gym,
postseason Gems, Verlander, back and forth we go to from
Charlie Morton's you start to go through the list of
of importance at positions that they've lost. You could even
give a Yuligue Gurriel, even though it was long in
(01:14:07):
his career, the positions they've lost due to either injury
or or they've they're they're playing someone's Kyle Tucker, Alex Bregman.
This team is the resilience of this team. There's no
word that describes them better. It's not even close, because
at times it's like they have no business truthfully, with
(01:14:30):
changes and injuries and stars and people gone, they have
no business doing what they're doing. Even talented teams don't
do this. That are the teams that are even at
times more talented. Of course they're talented, and of course
they've got great farm system and talent people's eye for
talent and development. But still you can be talented and
(01:14:51):
not have resilience. It just if they kind of go
hand in hand for this team. And there's very few
teams I've seen over the last decade that are as
resilient with losses as the Astros are.
Speaker 8 (01:15:05):
There's no question, I mean It's not just that this
year thing does mean you just laid out there. I
mean it's been many different years and even when they
were at full strength with any of those guys, I
mean you still have this at times with I mean
Jordan being down, Carlos.
Speaker 1 (01:15:19):
Korea being down. Different gms, right, three different managers and
all all but three different ones on teams that were
all successful. It's not like, oh he had one manager
he left and then the other two sucked and we
were in last place. You're talking about three gms and
three managers that were all part of World Series teams.
Think about this now, and that have all been part
(01:15:43):
of teams that were either in the ALCS World Series.
Think about what they've been through and all and the
constant player changes and injuries. It's you can say what
you to me, it's not close around. I can't fathom
franchises having to go through this and still stay of
the course. So let's self inflicted problem that they brought
on themselves with the the you know, trash can stuff
(01:16:06):
to signal the sign stealing. They had to be resilient
coming out of that. Even though it was self inflicted.
You can still have resilience when you do something stupid
to yourself and dealing with all that and still winning
and still going through changes, and still going through injuries
and still losing free agents. Yeah, there's no more resilient
team in Major League Baseball the last decade. And that
(01:16:27):
is a straight out, full on fact period and it's
been It's been pretty impressive to watch for sure.
Speaker 8 (01:16:36):
Absolutely, And uh, you know, we'll continue the Astros conversation
if you want someone three two, one, two five, seven
ninety is the number to get in. What I to
use about the Houston sports landscape. What someone said and
it was pretty similar to what somebody said in the past.
We'll do that to open up to the third hour
of the show. But a couple of guys that are
(01:16:56):
going to be needed to prolong that resilience for the Astros.
Speaker 1 (01:17:00):
We'll talk about him. Next. It is the Shawn Salisbury Show,
Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 14 (01:17:05):
We want to win.
Speaker 4 (01:17:06):
Sean Salisbury continues on seven ninety morning, Biscuit, how you doing.
Speaker 13 (01:17:12):
Hey, top of the morning. My brother's a big shot
and here you're back on the scene. Man, uh man,
I just wanted to call in gad than I appreciate it.
I just wanted to call in man, and and.
Speaker 1 (01:17:27):
So listen to prayers.
Speaker 13 (01:17:28):
Want all the viewers out there, man, the listeners man
uh and you know shouting. You got a couple of
kids or whatever, you know, how so if it can
be Man, I lost my eldest son last week.
Speaker 1 (01:17:42):
And uh uh.
Speaker 13 (01:17:45):
Have but you know it's it's all good shine. He
had I don't know if he's familiar with sickle cell.
I am uh he had sickle cell and he had
uh so, I say sixty percent of his life he
was in pain, you know. So uh he finally just
uh just the body just gave away, you know.
Speaker 1 (01:18:06):
Tell us about him, tell us about your boy.
Speaker 13 (01:18:10):
Yeah, man, I think I told you shot. He was
the one thing I liked about him, man, is he
didn't let the sick and sells define him.
Speaker 11 (01:18:17):
You know.
Speaker 13 (01:18:18):
He uh was a little kid. You know, a lot
of people try to persuade from doing what he wanted
to do. And he always wanted to become a police officer.
And so he I said, man, if you want to
do that, do that.
Speaker 12 (01:18:31):
Man.
Speaker 13 (01:18:31):
And so he uh graduated from the police academy and
that's where he became a police officer.
Speaker 1 (01:18:38):
For so most of his life.
Speaker 13 (01:18:40):
His profession was law enforcement and so uh you know,
he always uh I think in one year mad they
gave him award because he his thing was getting drunk
drivers off the road. He uh I think he set
a record for pre Sinet five forgetting the most drunk
drivers off the road or whatever. And even one time
(01:19:04):
on the West Park told Lord up the department, go
look it up. It was a wrong way driver and
he cut her off and she slammed into him or
whatever because he cut the path off so she couldn't
get through or whatever. And so he kind of got
some awards, you know, recognition for that. But I just
wanted to uh, you know, uh shine, he was my
(01:19:26):
hero man.
Speaker 1 (01:19:28):
Yeah, man, I don't even a hero man, that's for sure.
I don't even know how to respond. Man. I think
about my three kids, and parents aren't supposed to bury
their kids. And I'm really sorry. How he old? What's
your son's name, Biscuit, this son Jason? Jason, okay, and Jason?
And how old? How he old was he when he
(01:19:49):
passed forty two?
Speaker 13 (01:19:50):
Forty two? Shots? And uh and the thing about it
is shint he out kicked the coverage, you know, because
when he was.
Speaker 1 (01:19:57):
You're not supposed to live to forty two, right.
Speaker 13 (01:20:00):
Yeah, they told him, Man, he get to be eighteen.
He was doing good.
Speaker 1 (01:20:05):
So yeah, it's it's it's never a consolation because he
got to live longer. But I'm sure as you look back,
you'll say, man, he got you know, more than double
the life that was expected. And it sounds to me
biscuit and effort. You talked about him, You've mentioned him
with us before, but sounds to me like he didn't
get cheated at all with the way he approached his life.
(01:20:27):
As you're a hero. When your son's your hero, that's something.
And I'm so sorry because parents aren't aren't supposed to
bury their kids, man, But for you to share this
with us, it's gut wrenching. But for you to share
it with us, man, we appreciate you. Damn well know
you've got our prayers and thoughts and for peace and
for peace and comfort for you and your family. Man.
I'm really I'm really sorry to hear this, but it
(01:20:47):
sounds like your son made a huge impact. Brother.
Speaker 13 (01:20:50):
So first right, like you say, man, and then triple
he could man. One of these breaks, Man, little Marvin
sapp never would have made it.
Speaker 1 (01:21:00):
You got it.
Speaker 13 (01:21:01):
That's all.
Speaker 1 (01:21:05):
Absolutely, Biscuits.
Speaker 8 (01:21:07):
Appreciate all the support Man absolutely, thank you, thanks so much,
and condolences to Jason. Absolutely, And I mean, you know,
it's that's it. You know, Biscuits call right there. Sean
reminds us, you know a lot of times, and usually
this is when we say these things.
Speaker 1 (01:21:23):
Is reminds you what a family we are.
Speaker 8 (01:21:25):
I mean, you know, just and that's that's the goal
of our show is we want this to be as
fun as possible. We want you to enjoy and have
a great time every single time you come and join us.
And it's also too, I mean, you know, with the
good and bad life. I mean, you know, it's it's
you know, you can laugh, but then it's also you
wrap your friends and family and prayer and you're around
them and you let them know.
Speaker 1 (01:21:46):
That that you're here with us. I mean, it's it's
it's part of what our jobs are. Yeah, he's been
a phenomenal friend of the show, but it feels like
more than that, he's been a phenomenal friend and I
do I've never met him in person, and I feel
like he's been a college buddy of mine. Forever really,
(01:22:07):
and and I don't mean there's no hyperbole to that,
And I didn't expect that call this morning, and I'm
gratefully he shared it. But I can't imagine what his
family's going through, even though I know that when you're born,
to think about what his son overcame sickle cell. You
want to be a police officer, Nobody talks you out
of it. You're saving lives along the way, and you
(01:22:27):
live more than double the time you're supposed to. And
I'm sure a lot of that's not only good God's
blessings and a good family, but the fact that his
attitude had to be strong throughout it. So they didn't
expect that call. But yeah, if you can offer a prayer,
whoever it is you talk to or think about, for
Biscuit in his family's comfort and peace and understanding. It
cannot be easy. My parents buried buried a child as well.
(01:22:50):
It would have been between me and my older brother.
He died at a very young age, and you know,
fifty years afterwards, my mom would talk about my brother Kevin,
who was my mom and my dad always teared up.
It never goes away. You're not supposed to bury a child,
but take strong people to do that. And Biscuits one
of our one of the great ones, and we're sorry
(01:23:13):
he has to go through that. And I'm grateful he
included us on this show. So we got a great
we got a great friendship with a lot of people,
I mean great bond with a lot of folks that
astros or sports talk bring together. And we've had a
lot of people go through some difficult times with Grace underfire,
our girl Grace is had battled cancer. I mean, you
can go through a lot of people have been through
(01:23:34):
some tough times man, And we lost miss Carroll. I
mean there's been so to Biscuit, we love you and
prayers for your family.
Speaker 2 (01:23:41):
Man.
Speaker 1 (01:23:41):
That's that's that can't that cannot be easy after knowing
what you've seeing other people go through it. You're not
supposed to bury a child, So God bless.
Speaker 8 (01:23:51):
Him then and and I mean, and that's what's important
and grief too, is that you rely on people. I mean,
it's you've been through your experiences, you help others and
you know when you're going through it, those people will
turn the favor to you. And you know, I just
hope that we can do that for you, Biscuit, and
I mean, as you mentioned, I mean how proud you
are of your son. You know, it's it's something to
be said about people who are told this could be
(01:24:12):
a long shot for you, and you do it and
you make the most of it. And I mean, from
everything you just told us, it sounds there's no doubt
that Jason did that. So prayers for you, prayers for
your family, and absolutely we're all me Sean Tripoli, the audience,
We're all with you.
Speaker 1 (01:24:28):
Man. You know, peace and comfort are important and we
got a lot of strength on from people that listen
to this show. So give that strength a biscuit man,
please hear.
Speaker 8 (01:24:40):
That, Please do, please do absolutely all Right, Our three
of the Shawn Salisbury Show coming up right here, get
back into the Astros conversation. The thing that a Houston
sports legend said, we'll talk about it right here. It
is The Shawn Salisbury Show, kV.
Speaker 9 (01:24:55):
Houston ADHD two Houston, an iHeart radio station, the Astro,
the Rockets, Rockets your home for your home teams. This
is Sports Talk seven ninety from the Parsons Imagine Next Studios.
Speaker 1 (01:25:14):
Saulsbury Salisbury House did.
Speaker 2 (01:25:20):
Okay, let's do this, Sewan Salisbury.
Speaker 3 (01:25:25):
Usc true longtime friend Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 4 (01:25:27):
Dan Matthew excuse, this is the Seawan Salisbury Show and
Round two of the US Open at Oakmont. JJ spawn
currently in the lead at four under. Brooks Koepka though
tied for second at three unders. So major golf happening,
(01:25:48):
Astros Baseball over the weekend. The men's College World Series
gonna get going later on today in Omaha. A lot
to get into this weekend, so it'll be a great
Father's Day weekend, no doubt about it. And Sean, I've
tease this for a couple of segments now and wanted
to get to this. So did you see the other
day that JJ Watt was out at Texans mini camp.
(01:26:10):
He's there watching practice, talked with the media afterwards, and
one of the things that he talked about was the
love of the Texans in this city. Which, yes, there
is a strong love for the Texans in the city,
no doubt about it. But he had this to say
about how things would look when and if the Texans
were able to.
Speaker 1 (01:26:30):
Win the Super Bowl.
Speaker 15 (01:26:32):
There's nothing that would be crazier in the city than
a super Bowl parade. It is Texas is a football state.
Houston is a football town. We've got some incredible other
teams here as well. I mean, personally got to enjoy
the Astros parades and everything that came with the Astros
winning multiple World Series. Would love nothing more to see
(01:26:55):
the Texans version.
Speaker 8 (01:26:57):
All right, So there is a lot of buzz around
the Texans, and for good reason. I mean, they finally
have a franchise quarterback. You thought you had it with
the Shawn Watson. Obviously that played out the way it did,
but CJ. Stroud is here and we'll be here for
some time, and you hope can get back to production
wise what he was able to do his rookie season.
That's part of a huge reason why you made the
offensive coordinator change, why you've done what you've done to
(01:27:19):
the offensive line, all of those things. So there is
reason to believe that the Texans could be a step
closer to doing that. I would push back, though, Sean
on what he said about it being a football town.
Speaker 1 (01:27:30):
I think it was.
Speaker 8 (01:27:31):
I think that probably in the early twenty tens, when
the Astros were down and the Rockets were still trying
to get back to championship contention, that there was a
hole to be filled, and the Texans did it for
some time. But I think that probably with the next
regime with Bill O'Brien, that cooled a lot of people
off that organization. JJ Watt I remembered even when they
(01:27:54):
fired Bill O'Brien saying, as much where it was we
had this town, this town loved us in a way paraphrasing,
of course, we pushed those people away with the way
that we've been the last few years, and with Demiko
Ryan's coming back in, I feel like it's starting to
come back. But when you have a team across town
that's won two world titles and has been in contention
(01:28:17):
for the better part of the last ten years, I
think that probably they're the ones that have the captivated
attention of this town at the moment.
Speaker 1 (01:28:26):
This is coming from a football guy. Since I've been here,
it's been a baseball town first, and that it would
be It'll be what twelve years this fall. Since I've
been in this town, it's been a baseball town through
and through. It wants to be a football town because
it did. JJ's one hundred percent right. I've been fortunate
to travel and spend a lot of time with them,
(01:28:47):
and play either college or professional or somewhere Alongliner coach
with a bunch of Florida guys who went to high
school Florida in Florida played sports there. I grew up
playing California football in California is a great football state.
You know, Pennsylwestern Pennsylvania all that week with Georgia, Louisiana.
But Texas. I tried to explain, even to my California
(01:29:08):
friends and football friends that don't live here, haven't been
here on Friday night, I say, make no mistake, and
it all starts with that, the youth and high school
to make it a football state. There's no bigger football
state on the planet than the one we're living in now.
Even in California, Florida and athletes and all that, it
is a football state through and through, clearly, But it
(01:29:30):
is a baseball city now I've seen. It's not a shift.
The Astros still get I think the majority of the love,
but I think the tread lightly is. I think that
it wants to be a football town because in JJ's right,
that celebration will be epic. You go back to the
Oilers and the great players, and now the Texans and
the ups and downs they've been through. Yeah, I think
(01:29:52):
when that hits, it goes back to Okay, the King's
back on it, sitting on the throne, right. I get
that doesn't mean the Astros aren't still held in the
high in the high regard, but in a state that
is a football state. And while Houston's got a lot
of people from other areas because of the medical and
the oil and gas and all that, and it's it's
(01:30:14):
not like you grew up in a certain town where
everybody that grew up there lived in the same house.
Until you know what I'm saying, there's a lot of
people coming and going here, so you lose some of
those fans who might be a Steeler or a Viking
fan or a Raider fan. But it wants to be
the city wants to match the state, I believe, and
the parade would be epic. But they still got They're
still the Chase chase Er. It's still the Astros is
(01:30:37):
the big dog in town. But listen, all of us
know what it would look like if football, and they're
getting closer, if football gets that point where they're in
the final four in the AFC Championship game and get
to a Super Bowl. Of course, yes, I think that's
that's a no brainer. But to me, since I've been here,
there's been far more, at least outwardly optics pass for
(01:31:01):
Astros baseball than there has been for Texas football. That
does mean I have good fans, but if you're judging
on the decibel level, it's been the Astros. But it
wants to be a football town because it is a
football state.
Speaker 8 (01:31:14):
Make no mistake now, And I mean I understand all
of that, but I mean, you know, you had a
similar thing said back in twenty nineteen at the Texans
preseason luncheon that they throw every single year by thin
head coach Bill O'Brien. They had just won the AFC South.
That was Deshaun Watson. You feel like maybe they're ready
to take the next step, And this is what he
(01:31:34):
said along the similar lines back in twenty nineteen.
Speaker 14 (01:31:38):
One thing I've learned since becoming a head coach of
the Houston Texans is how lucky we are to play
in front of such a passionate fan base. You know,
I love the Astros. I love the Rockets, you know,
I really do. I've been to games and they're awesome.
But we all know what it's about in Houston, and
it's about the football team. It's about football, it's about
the Texans, and we know that.
Speaker 1 (01:31:59):
We need to do our part. The Astros are a great.
Speaker 14 (01:32:01):
Great baseball team and the Rockets are a great basketball team,
and we need to do our do our part and
represent the team in a championship way. And we're working
hard to do that every every day.
Speaker 8 (01:32:11):
You even heard the audience there starting to laugh a
little bit, like it was just like, come on, Bill, really,
like a team just won a world title a couple
of years ago, they're on their way to playing which
at that time they were to winning the American League
again and playing the Washington Nationals in the World Series.
That was a couple of months before that happened. But
I mean, even with what you had at the time,
(01:32:33):
in how good you're feeling about your team. Like remember
earlier we're talking about with one of our coworkers about
reading the room.
Speaker 1 (01:32:40):
Bill read the room man. Yeah, yeah, and he's the
he's the football coach. Of course, that's what he went.
Whenever you waltz into the state of Texas, the first
thing comes to your mind as ooh, I'm in a
football state. As I've told people many times, don't get
married on a Friday night in this state. They're gonna
be watching high school football. You're making a mistake I'm
doing and they think I'm kidding. I'm saying, your guest list,
(01:33:04):
your guest Listen, your your guest list is going down
if you're doing stuff on a Friday night that has
anything to do other than football most of the time.
But while I understand what bill selling and in football
in this town, getting to the playoffs isn't good enough
to overcome the Astros to make it a football town.
Yet you got to get deep, and you got to
you got to prove year and the out for the
(01:33:26):
U are supall team, or get to one and win one.
Because right now the Astros have the stronghold on that
I believe it. Now, stadiums bigger, more people are going
to go. But when it's relative to the size of
the ballpark in the stadium, well, just from I'm just
talking about from listeners and callers, and I know where
the flagship of the Astras, but just being around town,
I see far more Astro stuff still. And that doesn't
(01:33:47):
mean that Texas aren't close because they are. This is
as close I think, not that I think this is
as close in my mind, roster wise, on both sides
of ball now the offensive line, but quarterback, defense, all
of it that they're they're they are getting closer, but
that's not gonna be good enough to overtake the Ash
as long as the Astros are still knocking on the
World Series door getting to them. So so the ten
(01:34:08):
eleven years, twelve years I've been here, it's a baseball town.
It wants to be a football town, and with a
Super Bowl win, it may very well be, but it
still won't diminish how good the Astros are and what
that organization's done well. I mean, And that's the thing.
Speaker 8 (01:34:22):
The burden of proof is still on the Texans to
do that because the playoffs, getting there, winning the AFC South,
You've proven you can do all of that. It's about
winning in the divisional round, It's about getting to an
AFC title game. It's about being able to win said
AFC title game and then maybe you could have that.
I think the other part too, Sean a lot of
people in our audience where they grew up on the
(01:34:42):
Oilers and they were so happy when the Texans came
back because we have the NFL back in our town.
Speaker 1 (01:34:48):
But a lot of cowboys are stel a little bitter
and they stay right, but they're still a little hurt
over losing the Oilers as well. You can hear without
any with that, without question. It's know right now, the
Astros are the luxury mobile that everybody or the sweet
suv or truck you want to drive because they're posting
(01:35:11):
all the time, and the Texans are getting closer, and
I think the optimism continues to grow. When you got
a quarterback, a head coach, a defense, you automatically think, okay,
things are getting better, and they've gotten plenty more pieces
in that. But the Astros listen, and it's that resilience
again that even when you lose some of those stars,
imagine your football team losing the stars your baseball team
(01:35:34):
has and still be able to be in contention to
win the whole thing every year. That would be very
difficult to do. So the Astros are The Astros are
the dog track or the rabbit buddy. They are the
one being chased when it comes to what town is it?
Until further notice, it's an Astros town that the Texans
would probably take over because of the state if they
(01:35:56):
go win a Super Bowl. I don't think just getting
deeper into the playoffs be enough to shift that narrative.
If the Astros continue to do what they do year
in and year out, it's a I like the inner
competition among the being I'm going to tell you right now,
I don't blink the head coach with the Rockets, even
though I don't know if they'll ever overtake either one
is the top dog in town regardless of the result.
(01:36:19):
But the Rockets team are pretty damn close to getting
themselves over the hump. And you know they may be
a player away or a couple wins away from us
saying well, wait a second, now, look how successful they
are because they are young and got a chance to
build this for a duration and they got the right
coach to do it. So we're pretty blessed with three
pro sports franchises and those big three that are all
(01:36:42):
now competitive, let's put it that way. Competitive not just
competitive day to day game, but postseason competitive, which is
important for sure.
Speaker 8 (01:36:50):
And with the Rockets, I mean, take a look at
the Indiana Pacers right now, I don't think you're that
far from being that team. And I mean, we'll see
what they do this offseason. But now totally agree with
you on Emaadoka and all the coaches we have in
this town. All right, coming up, what is it like
to play with one of the most interesting players in
the NFL and interesting for reasons you would not expect.
Speaker 1 (01:37:12):
We'll let you hear what that's like right here.
Speaker 8 (01:37:14):
It is the Shawn Salisbury Show, Sports Talk seven ninety
on a Friday and a Friday, Thursday, Wednesday, Tuesday.
Speaker 1 (01:37:21):
Hell even a Monday.
Speaker 8 (01:37:22):
Even on the weekends, it's a great time to be
able to tell you about one eight hundred car cash.
That's one eight hundred at two two seven at twenty
two seventy four. Quick story time here telling you it's
really quick. I'm driving home yesterday from lunch, and I'm
making my way on the roadways and I look up.
Speaker 1 (01:37:37):
I see a billboard.
Speaker 8 (01:37:38):
Was it say one eight hundred car cash that's one
eight hundred at two two seven at twenty two seventy four.
And I love the line that it had at the
top of it, right there on six'. Ten As i'm driving,
home it said not a forced. Dad, WELL i, mean
unless you like earning cash for your. CAR i, mean
you know that's something THAT i think we all. Like
you like earning. Cash TRIPLE e likes earning. Cash sean earning. Cash,
(01:38:01):
well that's what one eight hundred Car cash gives you
a chance to be able to. Do that's one eight
hundred two to seven twenty two seventy. Four and just
to echo that, billboard it's not a forced, ad but
it's also too a reminder that you've got the, power
you've got the. Trust when you call one eight hundred
car cash that's one eight hundred two two seven twenty
two seventy. Four you're dealing with trained, professionals men and
(01:38:24):
women who have been in this business for years on,
end and they are looking for retail ready cars to
be able to add to a resale market that is
sorely in need of them right, now and they are
looking to give you the most value for your. Car
they know, cars and they are looking out for. You,
again they're, pros they're absolute, professionals and you never know
(01:38:46):
how much your car is. Worth when you call one
eight hundred car cash, again that's one eight hundred two
to seven twenty two seventy, four you could call them
and you could tell them all the details about your,
car and you could find out today that you are
really in for a nice. Payday it could really surprise
you today when you call one eight hundred Car cash.
Again that's one eight hundred two two seven at twenty
(01:39:07):
two seventy four and always online at carcash dot.
Speaker 11 (01:39:10):
Com let the celebration start War Sean. Salisbury it's A
Sean salisbury.
Speaker 1 (01:39:18):
Show compassion is a good thing, too for, sure when
people are going through struggles and knowing that people have
your back at a time when you look around you
and with all chaos breaking, EYE i would imagine most
of us got a wonder who? Does and losing your
son at he's forty two And jason is his name
(01:39:39):
of Sickle cell and being able to serve as a
police officer the police force for quite some, time it's
a horrible. Loss and if that song doesn't move you
thinking about As biscuit, said his son was his, hero and,
uh you're coming from a family who lost to my
mom and dad who lost the, son it is A
(01:40:01):
it can't be. EASY i can't even profess to know
what he's going. Through he sure has handled. It better
THAN i would judging from coming on, here but you,
know just asking for some thoughts and prayers for. Him
he lost his son at forty two years. Old powerful
song and To. Biscuit i'm sure that brought it here
to his eye when he heard that good Pull tripoli
(01:40:22):
in a great, song so our best A biscuit in
life after a, SON i hope everything's.
Speaker 8 (01:40:29):
Okay, Absolutely and AS i, mean you know mentioned, earlier
it sounds like he had tons of reasons to be
proud of his son for you, know for setting out a,
goal accomplishing set, goal and once he got, there absolutely
made the most of. It and, obviously you, know we
have such high regard for our first, responders you, know
(01:40:49):
for anybody that takes that higher calling of putting you,
know every everybody else in front of. YOURSELF i mean
we say it all the, time you, know disasters, happening
they're the ones running in while you're running. OUT i
mean that takes a special type of person to be
able to do those.
Speaker 1 (01:41:02):
Things. Yep and you know he shared the story about
keeping drunk drivers off the freeways and off the, roads
AND i JUST i just said, here think at forty
two years, old his life is supposed to just be.
Beginning but as the doctors had, said you, know fortunate
if he lives past, eighteen and he lived at forty,
two it may not make it, better but he got
(01:41:23):
more time than he, expected Meaning biscuit with his, son
and his son kept, living which is according The, biscuit
which was his attitude in the way he approached, life
And biscuits a good man aside from love of his
love of sports and you, know his great friendship with
his buddies when he shares his. Trips he's a good.
Man he cares about, people and he's always wealth even
(01:41:48):
if he disagrees with, something and he's always well thought
out and a good. Listener biscuits a good. Man the
people have been around, HIM i would imagine have been
in had by. Him he's a good guy and a good.
Man And i'm really sorry that he and his family
have to go through.
Speaker 8 (01:42:05):
This absolutely, so AS i, Mentioned lord be with You
biscuit and your, family and you, know for for anybody.
ELSE i, mean you know we've we've been through. GRIEF
i mean you've mentioned, It, sean if you've been through,
it it feels like the loneliest feeling in the, world
despite when you have people telling you that they're there for.
YOU i, MEAN i JUST i guess the challenge THAT
(01:42:26):
i get for people if if you're going through it
is rely on the people around, you but if you
know people going through, it be there even extra for.
HIM i mean much more than just a, Hey i'm
thinking about your. BUDDY i, mean you, know actions absolutely
will will show. You and you remember that too when
you're going, through you, know rough times of, grief for
whatever type of loss that you're dealing, with is you always, Remember,
(01:42:49):
hey you know what one THING i appreciate about you
as a family member or a, friend you were, There
like that's being, Present like that's the number one Thing
sean is is being. There it means so much to,
people much more than you can ever even.
Speaker 1 (01:43:03):
Imagine, yep And, biscuit it appears to me that he's
there for a lot of, people and for him to
ask for prayers and the thoughts for his family is
sure as hell not too much to ask going through
losing his son is Oldest jason at forty two years,
old so the grieving process is in full force for,
(01:43:25):
him and obviously he's always got a platform to come
on and share with. Us so we're grateful for.
Speaker 8 (01:43:31):
Him, well let's have a few laughs, here because this
guy in THE nfl seems like he provides those for
a lot of. People and you've got to hear this
story of what interactions with him are.
Speaker 1 (01:43:41):
Like we will have that for you right.
Speaker 8 (01:43:43):
Here it is The Sean Salisbury show on A Friday

(01:45:55):
It At MEN'S T CLINIC men'st clinic dot. Com IT'S
Men'st clinic dot. Com get out a lower, Gear It's
Men's Tea clinic dot.
Speaker 8 (01:46:04):
Com the seven to ninety listener line in the eight
o'clock hour is presented by one eight hundred car. Cash
you played many years in THE, nfl and you know
what the makeup of a locker room. Is none of
them are all the. Same they're all unique in their own.
Way but you know that every single team and the
guys that are in that locker, ROOM i mean there's
(01:46:24):
a mixture of. Personalities there's the quiet. Guys you love
the quiet, guys especially the ones that just go about their.
Work they do their. Thing they don't have to boast about.
It they just you, know they show up every single.
Speaker 1 (01:46:35):
Day they.
Speaker 8 (01:46:35):
Post Nick, Chubb i've told you he's one of those.
Guys Andre johnson he was one of those. GUYS a
lot of guys like that you'll have the boisterous, types
the ones that at times annoy you and that you
probably if you get into a mix up with them in,
practice well then you're even more motivated to go ahead
and mix it up with them because you can't stand
them at. Times you also have the goofy guys in,
(01:46:56):
there AND i think we can agree That Jameis winston
fits into the goof guys category BECAUSE i Love. JAMIS
i think the guy is beyond genuine and somebody that
you have him on your team you just. Hate you
have no idea what the hell you're gonna get out
of the.
Speaker 1 (01:47:12):
Guy there's no, doubt you Said Jameis. Winston, yeah oh,
well it's so. Weird he went from the first pick
of the draft and becoming that guy who will be
a backup be a. Starter has had some cheesy pregame,
speeches but he is such An he's such a positive. Guy,
(01:47:35):
honestly he seems like a great. Teammate i've grown to
actually give him more love and. Respective i'm always thought
he was a great thrower the football and a little
careless with the, ball but his personality and his ability
to rally around teammates and you know he'll go out
and throw for four hundred on you and may crush
you with a couple of. Picks BUT i the guy
(01:47:55):
has grown on me sense of humor, wise and you
know From Da dub you know eat he's trying to
guys up after, That they're, like, no, no, right this
speech was, horrible but we.
Speaker 8 (01:48:09):
Love, you.
Speaker 1 (01:48:10):
Brother. Yeah he's a unique. Character And i'm convinced in
every locker Room i've ever been, in there's there's there's
a couple THAT i mean WHEN i, say like a
couple like him that beat to a different, drum but
everybody loves AND i think it's. AWESOME i, MEAN i
think he maximizes how he feels. About he'd kind of
(01:48:30):
tell the guy loves. Life. Now Sometimes i'm, like what's
he trying to say? Here but his? Meaning you, know
he starts to pontificate and Going i'm, like, OKAY i get.
It but guys like that that think like. THAT i,
mean there's some brilliant thinkers and he just he does his, thing,
Man AND i would imagine he's a pretty beloved character
in the locker, room WHICH i like saying.
Speaker 8 (01:48:51):
To that thing you just said right, there what's he
trying to say right, Here, well that's the piece of
audio we. Have so you mentioned about him being a
starter at times a, Backup well he is a backup
right now with The New York giants And Darius, slay
one of his. Receivers on The, giants he was asked
what's it like being teammates With Jamis? Winston and this
answer is so, perfect.
Speaker 1 (01:49:11):
It's so hard to.
Speaker 16 (01:49:12):
Describe it's just like like How i'm talking right? Now
he'll be talking just like, this and it's just the
random thoughts that come to his head and they just come,
out and it's like we were talking, about you, know a,
slant how did we get To Kentucky Fried? Chicken just hard?
Less LIKE i can't think of an exact, example but
like that's how best how could. Describe it's just like
(01:49:33):
random hard Less but then he comes right back on.
Topics it's, like am my tripern are you? Tricking but
you know he's a really.
Speaker 1 (01:49:40):
Fun guy to be. Around, Hey, hey how do we
want to run a? Slant?
Speaker 14 (01:49:44):
All?
Speaker 1 (01:49:45):
Right?
Speaker 8 (01:49:45):
Hey just like you're going to that fast food place right? There, yeah, yeah,
yeah that's that's how you do.
Speaker 1 (01:49:49):
It, huh what, like what do you. Do you're aiming
Your you're aiming. Points see the drive through, window that's
the aiming, point. RIGHT i stay on, track precise and
dynamic on our, route running by the, way Man. ALIVE
i love the. Original oh but But i'm gonna tell you.
What we run slugo on the slant and.
Speaker 13 (01:50:04):
Go.
Speaker 1 (01:50:04):
Yeah guys like, that you know We've Mike leach has done.
That god rest his, Soul. Michael we talking about. Something
he'll go off on something and Somehow Is mine brings it.
Back you're, like where's he going with this? Yet, Okay i'm.
Listening i'm. LISTENING i like, this so we need More
Mike leach AND i think we need More Jamis. Winston
i'm okay with. It and watch when his career is.
Over i'll bet you he's sitting on the, set sitting
(01:50:25):
on a set somewhere talking football because he is a
he's a wild personality and he's still got some game in.
Him he can throw it around the lot a little.
Bit BUT i think that's funny because there are guys like,
that like what are you? Saying But i'm listening BECAUSE
i know it's going. Somewhere but he just takes a
different route to get. THERE i think it's. COOL i,
LIKE i like, different AND i like guys who who
(01:50:48):
really just kind of do his. Thing and it's it's
obvious he's not afraid to put himself out. There i'm
okay with. That it's it's not an. Act he's. GENUINE i,
mean that's THAT'S i, agree that's that's what you love about.
HIM i, mean it's just that he is that much
of an odd ball and he's just, LIKE i don't,
Care i'll do.
Speaker 8 (01:51:05):
It it's it's. COOL i, mean it kind of reminds
me of a STORY i. Heard it was On busting
with The. Boys they had Cj uzama, on AND i
think we can agree to a little bit of a different.
Tone Joe burrow is that, guy and Cj uzama was
on with The. Guys he was telling the story about
How burrow had a chessboard with all the pieces on
it in front of his locker and would just sit
(01:51:26):
there at his, locker staring at, it almost as like
go to somebody to sit down and play. Them and
if somebody was standing in front of, it you know
where he, is he would just look up at, them
not say, anything and you, know almost kind of like
be like you want to go all, right let's let's,
go like give it a shot and let's let's. Play
and then also to, that he'll tell you a joke
(01:51:49):
and deliver the punchline with a straight, face like almost
as to make you, uncomfortable as AM i supposed to?
Laugh what AM i supposed to do? Here that he'll
give you a smirk every once in a. While it
was kind of, like, yeah you can, Laugh you're, Fine
like it's important to have those. GUYS i feel Like burrow.
Speaker 13 (01:52:05):
Is a.
Speaker 1 (01:52:08):
Dry sense of humored, guy very very yeah that you're,
like is that dude that sometimes you go? There is
that dude? Real oh he is? JOKING i MEAN i
believe he's probably got some of That indian or he
feels like the type of guy who would walk past
you say, something you'd, say what'd you? Say and then
he'd tell, you like a day, later what the punchline
(01:52:28):
was or what he was trying to, say just to
make you kind of wait and then deliver it and
like oh. Okay and With, JAMIS i Think james is
a little more outlandish and a little more one seems
a little more guarded than the. OTHER i don't Think
jameis is guarded at. All but the presentation doesn't. Matter
it's just you've got to have those different beat to a.
(01:52:49):
Drum teammates and leadership comes in all different shapes and
sizes and colors and age and all of, it and
there's different ways to do. It AND i THINK i
don't hear many teammates talk poorly about either. GUY i don't.
Have Jamis winston's teammates seemed to love, him and so
does everybody else until he throws a pick and then
he drives coaches. Crazy and then he makes coaches happy
(01:53:11):
because he'll he'll throw three balls that nobody else would
even take a shot, out and he'll complete them. All
so it's he's a good Watching burrow for different reasons,
feels you, know From joe's dress to the hair to
the Blunt joe's willing to step out. There but it
just kind of his is the shock, value you know
WHAT i? Mean what does he what do you just
do at some point in, time remember How brady, Was
(01:53:33):
he had the short. Hair you, Know brady changed his
haircut like eight million times during his. Career, Right he'd
come out with like The jason state of really cut,
tight and then one time they didn't come out with
the medium business. Cut and then the time remember when
it was all one length and he could if he,
wanted he could put in a pony Til i'm waiting
for That burrow where he comes out and has you,
know Like Clay matthews junior hair just to do it
(01:53:56):
and then comes back and Has Jason statham. Cut you,
Know i'm waiting for that Because brady did, it AND
i Think burrow is the closest thing To brady when
it comes to the way they. Play we have in the,
league but. Personalities that's the greatest thing about our locker.
Rooms And i'm sure clubhouses on a fan AND i
know you hear this, all, well what would if you
(01:54:17):
came back and? Play would be for the? Money, no
for being around the. Fellas it's true when you hear
guys say that they're not. Kidding the greatest outtakes in
the history of my. Life, well it was fun listening
To sandler And chris Rock on to tell jokes that
fund and out takes in on a movie. Setting the
daily setting of locker rooms is the greatest outtake. Documentary
(01:54:43):
if you just ran a cand of locker room and
you felt safe that nobody's going to judge. It you
could just do what guys do in locker. Rooms i'm
sure with the females in theirs do you'd be fascinated
and you'd be, like oh my, gosh what a great
job to go. To and most, PLAYERS i don't many
guys coming back the first thing they never, says oh,
MAN i want to come back and get. Paid although
we joke about, it that's not the number one. Reason
(01:55:06):
the number one reason is every day sitting with those
guys and the laughs that we have in meetings on the.
Field that to me is the greatest bond. Ever locker
rooms are the greatest bond. Ever AND i hope we
never lose. That AND i think at times we've been
in danger of, it AND i hope we don't any
need personalities Like burrow And Jameis winston in.
Speaker 13 (01:55:25):
There.
Speaker 1 (01:55:26):
WELL i mean it's what always sticks with.
Speaker 8 (01:55:27):
YOU i, mean at the time you enjoy, it it's
the funnest and then when you're, done you're, Like i'm
never going to get that feeling ever.
Speaker 1 (01:55:33):
AGAIN i don't know WHERE i, WAS i don't know
what the. Paycheck WOULD i spent the money on my
fourth year In? MINNESOTA i. DON'T i paid ten but
that if you, Said, jem would you would you pay
for your first? TIME i can't remember WHEN i paid
for the first. House but you know WHAT i can't
remember is the stretching lines With Chris carter and the
(01:55:54):
how we'd go back and Forth Warren moon AND. I
the laughs we'd have sitting around with McMahon on the,
plane and you, know listen To Chris carter have fun
and talk trash on the, field the long conversations with
a guy Like Wade. Wilson god rest his. SOUL i,
Mean i'm just telling. You the money gets, spent the memories. Don't,
(01:56:14):
yeah and that's the greatest. Thing and the personalities are
what it's all. About AND i hope it's a bummer
everybody doesn't get a chance to be a part of
that in their work. Life honest To, god it really. Is.
Speaker 8 (01:56:27):
YEAH i, mean having a, team it's what makes life
fun when you have. It enjoy it BECAUSE i, mean
you want that feeling for the rest of your, life
and you only get a finite amount of time to
be able to be a part of, it and that's
something that when you have guys Like Jameis winston in
your locker, room well you definitely remember that. Too all,
right we'll get back into the astros. Conversation alan's South.
(01:56:48):
Side see you right, There. JOHN i know you want
to get in on a, conversation so we'll get you guys.

Speaker 17 (01:58:17):
Astros, Uh, Sean i'm looking at it like we're doing pretty,
good you, know considering the struggles and. Injuries it happens
when the team go through with these one hundred plus
games we. Got But, SEAN i just, think you, know
baseball is hard to. Judge you got so many games
and all this and little time to get, them and
(01:58:37):
hinduries gonna. Happen But, Seun i'm just thinking that we
had him in the beginning of the front half of the.
Season going, Forward i'm looking at probably fifteen or twenty
games where we can lead this thing, above where we at.
NOW i want them to keep it. Rolling AND i
just think the problem we have good problem because it's.
(01:59:01):
Fixable problems are not bad if you can't fix, them
but they good when you can fix. Them BECAUSE i
think just a little bit, tweaking these guys can get
the wood on the, bed you, know just maybe ten
percent more than what they doing, now seun just if that,
happens and you, know small percentage in baseball is actually a.
Lot how winning streak you think they can take this
(01:59:25):
team from today moving? Forward consenting with what they at.
NOW i don't care about the guys ain't in. THERE i,
do But i'm, saying we got what we got. Now next,
man are bellichicking Par? Salway what we got? Now ten
percent of getting gets better than what we're, doing no matter,
what through nine or. Whatever how far you think we
can stretch this thing to the Al, west y'all hang
(01:59:46):
up and get y'all. CHECKING i appreciate.
Speaker 1 (01:59:47):
It great call and great love For BISCUIT i, personally
as let's see thirty eight and twenty with a lineup
that has not been, consistent swinging the boats where we are,
now not even counting, injuries getting the ord on back
and the rest of. You, now you're gonna need you Ord.
On but if they get this kind of, pitching they're
(02:00:09):
winning the division just as they are, now they're going
to go win the. DIVISION i know we're all ways
away from, them only seven to, sixteen sixty eight games.
IN i get, That but he's talking about a future's thought. Process,
dan you can win the division with the way you're playing?
Now you absolutely. Can't now as you go deeper into.
It can you win a playoff? Series? Sure and now
(02:00:31):
the problem is if you run into somebody who's pitching
as well as you, are and then it all comes
down to how timely's the hitting in a short or long,
series and that that's what it comes down. To and
if you get good, pitching if both teams get good,
pitching then now it comes back to what guy got
the clutch. Hit so this team can win the division
the way they're playing now and the way they're, pitching,
obviously because they're four and a half games in front
(02:00:52):
of first. Place but if all of a, sudden ten
percent better out With Christian, walker just each player give
me ten percent more including pitching. Staff oh, yeah it's
not only a division winner they're already a threat because
well the, history and they're good, players and they got
a good, pitching but ten percent better at the plate as,
(02:01:13):
well ten percent more Of Christian, walker ten percent more Of,
parades ten percent more of the, iinery if that was
what you, got ten percent More, Opinia well he's. Playing,
YEAH i can take that and be really competitive and
in The American league have a legitimate chance to get
to THE. Alcs, yes because of the frontline pitching and
the way they're getting the. Bullpen but for my, opinion
(02:01:36):
to win, it you're probably gonna have to play fifteen
percent better at the plate and Get jordon back in the.
Lineup you give me that, now now we're, talking you're.
Talking you may be playing somebody in The Nation league
for a seven game. Series they're they have a legitimate
shot to do. That even, now will you get all that?
Back add ten or fifteen percent with Jord on in the?
(02:01:57):
Lineup come, on, Now, son different, story AND i Think
al knows, that AND i think that's Where al's. Going you,
know the guys that are, playing they're doing, well but
ten percent more WOULD i think they win the division
just the way they're playing. Now but it's not enough
to win A World.
Speaker 8 (02:02:12):
Series, well that's what encourages you to dream even more
because of how much better you know they can still
play and hopefully they're able to do that as they
mentioned sixty eight games into the. Season we'll continue the
conversation BECAUSE i THINK i do have an answer To
al's question there and it involves this group of. People
we'll talk about it here to start our number four
(02:02:32):
on The Seawn Salisbury, Show Sports talk seven ninety KD.
Speaker 9 (02:02:36):
E, HOUSTON KTV ehd Two, houston.
Speaker 2 (02:02:39):
An iHeart radio. Station yes as A.
Speaker 11 (02:02:43):
Rocket Sports talk seven ninety your home for your home
teams from The parsons that match next.
Speaker 2 (02:02:52):
Studios, Right, okay let's do. This Sewn salisbury.
Speaker 3 (02:03:07):
TO usc, troups longtime, Friend Shawn, Salisbury Dan.
Speaker 8 (02:03:10):
Matthews this is The Shawn Salsbury. Show Minnesota twins in
town over the. Weekend that's gonna get going later on
TONIGHT'S Nba Finals game four happening In indianapolis, tonight The
pacers with a two one lead on the thunder AND
(02:03:30):
jj spawn still your leader at THE Us open at four.
Under he does have a little bit of a crowd
behind him, Though sewan AS i Mentioned Brooks koepka at
three Under South African Thurston lawrence there as well, though
AS i just say That kopka just made a, bogie
so now he is back to two, under but still
a leaderboard of stars heading into the. Weekend AND i,
(02:03:53):
MEAN i was thinking about this the other day before
we get back into The astros. Conversation is this not
one of the best sports weekends of the year every
Year Father's day, weekend where if your baseball team is,
good which we do have a good baseball team, here The.
Astros we want to pay attention to, them so we watch.
Them if you're a college baseball, fan The College World,
series it's always fun In. Omaha if you've never, BEEN
(02:04:15):
i suggested highly go of all the great events that
are out, there college Football Playoff final, four the pro.
Events going To omaha as a once in a lifetime,
experience it is. AMAZING i went twice when it was
At rosenblatt wants to see my brother play another Time
Cee lsu.
Speaker 1 (02:04:31):
Play it was one of the funnest weeks of my. Life,
yeah IT'S i, mean first of, all just the feel
of family and doing The Father's day. Weekend and if
you like, golf you always get THIS Us. Open, look
baseball's going. Well weather hopefully it'll clear up for folks
In texas And. Houston, yeah it's a good sports. Weekend
(02:04:51):
and you're, Right and you know, what all of all
the sporting Events i've been to and been blessed to go,
To i've never been. To AND i love college baseball ever.
BEEN i never got To, rosenblat which is blasphemous if
you ask, ME i got to go to the College
Baseball world, too because that's just in the, end that's
just wall to wall great baseball in a blast every
(02:05:11):
the entire. Time, so, yes it's a fun weekend and
a good. Weekend and obviously with THE Us open and those,
conditions the one thing about bad play at a major
like A Us, open it sure makes us feel good
about our. Game guy shooting plus, five you're, like, MAN
i hit that shot which One, Sean oh, oh you're
(02:05:32):
talking about the ONE i snap hooked into the rough
and took me three to get. Out, Yeah i've lived,
THERE i. Understand so it actually makes them, mortal you
know What i'm, Saying because sometimes you look at him
saying how does that guy hit a? BATCH i, mean
these guys never hit you, know, shots and they always
find a way to come out of. It but when
you see a guy trying to chop his way out
(02:05:54):
of the rough and, stuff while you're not celebrating, it you're, like, damn,
BROTHER i understand your. FRUSTRATION i know what the Bo
jackson snap a club over my thigh fields, like, right
would you want to do? That or when If, clark
would you want to drop your club in the water or?
THROW i, mean and then the frustration, yeah hell, yeah,
MAN i get. It so that THE Us open and
the grind to get. Through talk about. Resilience you've got
(02:06:15):
to get through to win. That and then with, baseball
and the key is The astros haven't played their best
baseball getting back to them and you're right about this, Weekend,
dan is The astros best baseball when you think it
is still in front of. Them and that sounds cheesy
and it sounds, oh come, On, sean that's the. Obvious
everybody says, it but it really. Is they are thirty
eight and thirty and you know, me, DUDE i don't
(02:06:37):
sit on the. Fence if they're going. Bad we'll let
them know that prove they're going, good we'll let them.
Know but they are thirty eight and, thirty AND i
personally don't believe over an extended amount of time that
they've played their best. BASEBALL i. DON'T i think thirty
eight to thirty is scrap And dana uses grit all
that that's a go to about describing his, team and rightfully,
(02:06:57):
So Dana. Brown does they just get their thirty eight
and thirty and have PLAYED i think by their, standards
not the, pitching but by the everyday standards of the.
REGULARS i think that they probably think they played average.
BASEBALL i. DO i believe that there's Individual jake and
there's nothing average about the Way payne is. Played this
(02:07:18):
should be you get the, overall the, overall the umbrella
statement of the you know on the whole. TEAM i
don't think they played their best baseball at all for
an extended amount of. Time AND i think they know
that thirty eight and thirty four and a half game,
lead and you're you still haven't sniffed your best extended.
Baseball that's a good. Thing So i'll take average at
(02:07:39):
thirty eight and, thirty considering that their offense has been
nowhere near what we will see when it is, right
and it will get. Right every team gets right at some,
point and they've got enough players to stay right longer than. Some.
Speaker 8 (02:07:51):
WELL i, mean and it was almost prophetic words out
Of dana when he joined us On wednesday of saying
exactly that bats hadn't really gotten. Going SO i, mean
that's something else that it encourages you about this. Team
and then later on that night they got going for
ten runs on fifteen. Hits last, night four runs on ten,
hits and it was four of those on extra base
hits where you get four or actually it was five of.
Speaker 1 (02:08:14):
Them i'm. Sorry see you're better with the. Math i'm
not as good with the.
Speaker 8 (02:08:18):
Math you had two out of al Two va, doubles
you had one out Of Yanor, diaz and you also
had one out Of Victor, krottini plus the home run
From Eastac. Perettis so you like seeing, that AND i
mean especially to one of the NAMES i mentioned in their, Yiner.
DIAZ i, mean we'll see what happens With, perettis but
three for four night out of him raises the average
up to two forty.
Speaker 1 (02:08:36):
Eight more of, that, Please, yeah just but three weeks
to a month. Ago BUT i let he was, hitting you,
know around The mendoza. Line, correct there was a time
When yanez was, hovering was below two hundred and creeped
up above two. Hundred and he's just steadily, climbing steadily.
Climbing had a slow, start but you know you're making
up the ground and it's going to be. Important did
(02:08:57):
HIM i already you know WHAT i, Don't Victor. Kartini
it's almost he's that guy THAT i always think, of
what a great backup and a versatile. Backup i've told you.
BEFORE i think we're about a fortune as anybody have
a backup catcher who can play first, BASE dh, lead
do the, things and a highly underrated Bat i'm sure
around Major League, baseball well we know what he's got.
Here but a Yiner DIA's normal approaches at the plate
(02:09:23):
and who he is THE id is is a twenty
five home run guy every, year with the ability to
get to thirty on certain years because he's got that
kind of. Power he's a damn good hitter. Too he
just had his early season slow, STARTS i, mean and
the slow start SHOULD i say this? Year but it's
going to be nice when all of them decide that
it's time that they hit their gear as, well and
(02:09:43):
when we get the big left hander off the, bench
adding that power from that side of the, plate be
really really. Cool thirty eight and thirty and they played
average baseball offensively this year and at times below. It
that's got to be something you can say because there's
no way they live. THERE i think they rent that.
SPACE i think they are going to live. In but the,
uh the the you, know the the sweet life for.
(02:10:05):
Them but they know how to play blue collar, baseball
and at thirty eight and, thirty that's kind of what
they've played this. Year we haven't seen that country club
stuff where they will go on twelve out of fourteen
and they're just everything's going their way and everything's. Hitten
but it will and they've got a good chance the
next ten games to extend that even without what may
be paradus for a day or two or, ten who,
(02:10:26):
knows and still wondering When jordan's going to get. Back
so it's A i think it's been positive so, far
sixty eight games in there's negative times with positive so.
Far dan considering, EVERYTHING i think that. You you have
to you have to be elated might not be the,
word but pretty damn optimistic about what the next couple
(02:10:48):
of months holds if this team gets.
Speaker 8 (02:10:50):
Healthy, Yeah jianer was sub two hundred in their first
full months of the. Season A april he was one
ninety eight and then he went three for four against
The White sox and That friday game there In chicago
and raise the average up to two o. Eight so
from that point to now now batting two forty eight
after starting this month at two thirty. One, SO i,
mean it just shows you where things are going for
(02:11:12):
him And Christian. WALKER i, mean he gets a hit last.
NIGHT i mean Again i've said it and will continue
to say. It it's nice when you see he factors
in with the, hit but it's also a single out of.
Him AND i mean you for the way he started this.
Speaker 1 (02:11:26):
Year you, know he had a three for four night
the night.
Speaker 8 (02:11:29):
Before you need a few of, those you, know in a,
row to be able to make you believe that he's
getting this thing.
Speaker 1 (02:11:34):
Going, absolutely there's no, Question AND i think for him
that's Why i'd Asked dana about how's how's the, personality
how's he feel coming to a new team and his,
frustration but he hasn't show, it just, keeps he keeps,
swinging and they feel pretty strongly about his ability to
(02:11:54):
that he's going to did he's sit in the ball hard,
enough and that The Christian walker we're going to. See
AND i know we heard that with a brave but
there there are different points of their. Career, dan you
AND i both know one was broken down a little,
more that he wasn't even getting close to some balls
AND i bray you had his, run but people were
all over, that, right and the comparisons are. Different WHILE
i know the average struggles the balls being hit a lot,
harder AND i Think Christian walker And i'll tell you
(02:12:17):
what bears. Repeating when we got him From, ARIZONA i
had two buddies of mine say that are in the
in the, business say you're getting a guy who will,
battle and you, KNOW i don't even know if they
use the word, resilient but a great, guy great, teammate.
Grinder they used all the words that we've heard about this,
(02:12:38):
team which tells me he kind of fit right in
and wasn't going to take long for him to. Adjust
and it's probably taken longer at the bat than we
at the. Plate we thought that we thought it. Would
but you, know at new, place a lot of pressure
and without Jord, on the pressure falls on, anymore, Right
and that's been that's been on, him and so that.
Happens but you know what when not only will he
help Ord on in that group and then the lineup
(02:13:00):
if he gets, gone but guess how good it's going
to be Once jordan's in there to help the other.
GUYS i, mean if they if, people you, know if
he's seeing, pitches but just to, have you, know have
they're gonna see even more pitches when he's in the,
lineup and if they can protect him in a different,
ballgame but just having his presence around also should, elevate
it should elevate the. GROUP i Think Christian walker is
(02:13:23):
gonna be. FINE i expect production out of, him more
production than you're, getting AND i think he knows that as.
Speaker 8 (02:13:27):
Well here's Hoping Jordan alvarez back in the lineup sooner
rather than. Later it's still a wait and see on.
Him with that right, hand someone three two point, two
five seven ninety is the number to get. In we'll
continue The astros conversation here because the pitching side has
been stellar and this guy has set the. Standard we'll
talk about. It it Is Sean Salisbury Show Sports talk seven.
Speaker 2 (02:13:48):
Ninety The Jean Salisbury show.
Speaker 1 (02:13:52):
Continues.
Speaker 8 (02:13:54):
Sean last, NIGHT i threw out On twitter BECAUSE i feel,
like kind of Like i've told you, before the different
levels of The astros offense did enough carried the. TEAM i,
mean that's the absolute. Best that's what we want out of.
Them we do the, same or at LEAST i. Do
With fromber hashtag Good, fromber hashtag Great fromber last night
has said so, so and our, boss our program, Director Chris,
(02:14:16):
gordy said twelve. Strikeouts that's that's so. So my response
should have been at the, time aren't you on? Vacation
BUT i then, said, okay, fine a LOWERCASE g Good
fromber last, night because, yes that is the standard that
he set as the way he's pitched recently of quality,
outings maybe even more than a quality outing seven to eight,
(02:14:38):
innings and last night the pitch count got up on.
Speaker 1 (02:14:40):
THEM a little.
Speaker 8 (02:14:40):
Bit credit goes to The White sox, though, too because With,
fromber you try to do too, much you're grounding the
ball out take the ball the other.
Speaker 1 (02:14:47):
Way sometimes he can give those up and that's what he. Did,
Yeah but, Dude i'll think about the standard we're talking, about,
Though think about the standard we're talking, about AND i
get where you're coming, from because what you've been used
to from, him especially in the last well really in
the last couple of, years but the last six weeks
this year we're talking about is think about the standard
(02:15:11):
that we're putting on. Him twelve, strikeouts one, walk and
it was by kind of going by your, account it
was just kind of a it was a good, performance
but not full on. Fromber does that make? Sense? Now
what IF i here's the. IRONY i give you that
same performance over twelve, strikeouts one, walk over seven, Innings
(02:15:36):
what do you? Say? Outstanding there you. Go so it
had nothing to do with the. Performance had everything to
do with at times getting behind the count right and
then ninety some pitches in five, innings maybe a little
more than normal for his, efficiency and maybe the way
the optics looked on a you, know on a hit or.
Two but in, truth you'd take that performance of the complete,
(02:15:59):
game twelve, strikeout one. Walk think about that you got
twelve of them five, innings that's not, it but you'll take.
That IF i said you're going to get that performance
the rest of the year From, fromber what would you.
Speaker 8 (02:16:10):
Say to, Me, OH i, mean because that more than
likely is going to put you in position to. Win
so for, sure take.
Speaker 1 (02:16:16):
It, right even though it's only five, innings you'd, say,
yeah but you know it's twelve, strikeouts got a chance
the bullpen will be, fine and we'd like him to
go a couple. More but IF i IF i told
you that he was going to give you that the
rest of the, year we'd probably be PRETTY i don't
want to say, ecstatic but we'd be, like oh, man,
okay sounds. Good so the point is the standard that
(02:16:38):
he continues to set when he's when he's doing what
he's doing. Now the streak he's on is pretty. Impressive
the fact that we're even trying TO i don't want
to say, waffling but the year like for you to, say,
well you, know he was, fine he was pretty, good
and that's twelve. Strikeouts think about the standard he's set
and what he's done to influence the way you think
(02:16:59):
about him now too as.
Speaker 8 (02:17:00):
Well, no for, SURE i, mean and that's exactly it.
IS i mean kind of like we're talking about expectations for.
Teams we had that conversation. EARLIER i mean with The,
astros now it's make the, postseason go deep into the.
Postseason like they'll say the first goal is to win the,
division because well that's a sure way you're going to be,
there and that you're hosting home playoff. GAMES i, mean that's,
(02:17:20):
that but they also deep down know what's the goal.
Here it's to get to the furthest point and be
the last team when it's all said, so high standards
are a great. Thing And fromer for the way that
he's pitched over the last few, years he gives you
a reason to have high.
Speaker 1 (02:17:35):
Standards. Yep let me give you a scenario you don't
want to hear, about BUT i, like what ifs? Right
it's kind of a futures. Pig IF i told you
the pitching staff is going to pitch like they're pitching
bullpen included that this is going to this is this
is who they are all, year and you could and
(02:17:56):
you didn't Have yordn for two more, months it's not
going to. Happen i'm going to make a point here
AND i don't even Think i'll need to make a.
Point WHEN i get your, answer you'll have a pretty
good idea Where i'm going with. This what would you?
Take you have to choose one or the. Other you
have to choose average that the pitching, goes and that
Goes haywire doesn't go, south but is gets not full, side,
(02:18:20):
yeah little lean you know where it gets a little,
sideways and they're kind of up and down the rest
of the. Year but Jord on is THE mvp the
second half of the. Season or you either get Jord
on back and he hits one ninety seven or two,
hundred or he's out another month and a half to two.
Months but you get this pitching, staff this, bulpen the
(02:18:41):
way they're going out even with the lack of the starting,
pitchings you, Know lance still working through. It the pictures
you're getting in a five and six man, rotation the
back End gusto seven innings one week and may give
you four next week or? Five which would you? Take
you can only choose. One, oh the picture pitching for
(02:19:01):
Uh jordon and maybe not have him for two, months
Or jordon plays like THE, mvp but the pitching semi
sideways and. Inconsistent take the pitching starts to do with
the hitting's done And jordon's doing what Fromber Hunter brown
and a bullpen's? Doing which would you?
Speaker 13 (02:19:18):
Take?
Speaker 8 (02:19:19):
Oh the, PITCHING i mean we saw it last year
in the. PLAYOFFS i mean it wasn't like The tigers
were world, beaters but they pitched. Right he, Was BUT
i mean they pitched the hell out of it and
they got enough hits to be able to beat. You that,
travels that plays, always and you, know.
Speaker 1 (02:19:34):
And you know what's, Great you're not gonna have to
live like. That you're not going to Miss jordon for
three more months or two more, months, Right and there's
chances are when he gets back, healthier he can probably
hit with one eye open and give You he's going
to give you more power than we saw him the
first part of the. Season correct for. Sure so you're
not gonna, so, yeah you would. IMAGINE i, mean just
(02:19:55):
if we're going by their phrase back to the baseball,
card it would tell me he's going to Be he's
going to find a way to get right. Correct so with,
that so the perspective of even with this and a
twelve strikeout and there's a you, know just a solid
from her performance with twelve strikeouts in five in eggs
and one, Walk you've got a better chance of going
(02:20:18):
where you're going or where you want to go then
you would if it was flipped And jordon was THE
mvp of the, league but pitching with semi sideways and
just the pitching went to the hitting and the hitting
went to the. Pitching, Yeah i'll take this every, day
even with the patients Of jordon and Getting Christian walker
and yin a. Going imagine when that does happen for a,
(02:20:39):
minute and hopefully it. Lasts it's it's it's not A
New york. Minute it's a country. Mile you know that
lasts a lot, longer and the cows coming home takes
a little bit longer to get. Home if that's how
long they can extend the good stuff when the hitting gets,
going this this, team this team will be heading Into
september fairly.
Speaker 8 (02:20:57):
Comfortable somewhere out. There you just, said somebody into a
rage with that saying back of the baseball.
Speaker 1 (02:21:02):
Card like they're they're not WHAT i? Do is you
NOTICE i referenced? IT i, Said, well they like to
use the phrase of quote back of the baseball. Card
so let me reiterate. IT i don't use it very,
often but if we're gonna go by the phrase they
use and judge back of baseball, cards turnover from turnover your,
dogs guess What i'm gonna tell. You those those those
the numbers on there are not. UGLY i got news for.
(02:21:25):
You so you know IF i take that baseball, card
yeah for.
Speaker 8 (02:21:28):
Sure, yeah, yeah well you KNOW i mean in the
saying like, THAT i, mean it is just like most baseball,
cards some are more valuable than. Others but in that,
CASE i mean there's probably somebody that maybe even right,
now is looking in their office and they see a
baseball card and they're like that damn sing LIKE i,
mean people like get enraged now with that because of
(02:21:48):
obviously you know what it was being attributed to at the,
time With Jose upray units.
Speaker 1 (02:21:52):
Like he's not that guy. Anymore stop saying. That so
see that's what it was for some of those. People
it was a.
Speaker 8 (02:21:59):
REENACTMENT i wasn't actually becoming full on. Disdange, actually, no
that's Dangerous dan right. There you don't want that. Guy
so we'll try to make sure we keep them at.
Bay speaking of sending somebody into a. Rage it's somebody
that me And sean are both a huge fan of
and somebody nearly did. It we'll let you hear that
interaction right here as they met up with a fan and,

o'clock hour is presented by one eight hundred car.
Speaker 1 (02:23:26):
Cash like did you See Scottie.
Speaker 8 (02:23:29):
Scheffler he he had a putt for an eagle and
ended up getting a six on that whole four.
Speaker 1 (02:23:35):
Putting that's one of those where you're in the. Crowd
but LIKE i told, you it Reminds it reminds me Of,
by reminds me of B Dan LIKE i, TRUTH i
told you. This i'll say it again BECAUSE i can't
quit thinking about, it Because i'm so obsessed to eighteen At. Pebble,
Right i'm back, here you know the iconic hole? Right oh,
(02:23:55):
YEAH i thought i'd like dreamt about. It it's like
doggling out.
Speaker 13 (02:23:59):
There.
Speaker 1 (02:24:00):
Yeah and the tree in the middle the fairway with
all water all, left can't hit. It left AND i
smoked the drive AND i was not playing. Well At Pebble,
beach it was like hit a green, three put miss
a h, bunker hit it out of the, bunker hit
the downhill slope and, going now you got a. Three
you know What i'm. Saying it was one of those,
days hit some great, shots but also hit some of you're,
like what in the world are you? Doing you, know
(02:24:23):
like you know The Justin, speed The Jordan spieth hole
where he almost fell off the cliff At. Pebble, yeah
it's like at number, EIGHT i think it. Is you
hit like a like a six, iron like a buck
ninety and it said sitting there AND i got to
hit over. There it's an unbelievable golf, hole, Right and
So i'm sitting there at eight and they, say hit.
Six it's a blind shot up the. Hill you don't
want to hit it too. Far so it was like he,
(02:24:44):
said hit it your one ninety one. Night SO i
hit a six iron and landed like four feet from the,
ledge WHICH i was in position a to hit. It
and so what do you? Do you chuck and eight
iron doesn't make it and it's a. Downhill it's such
a beautiful approach on and you're, like what are you?
Doing and then you hit your deck shot it goes
into the bucker, then SO i Feel So i'm standing
on the eighteenth tee thing and it's been one of these, days.
(02:25:04):
Dude SO i, Mean i'm half, pissed half, relaxed but
half intrigued because it's the eighteenth Of. PEBBLE i eight
screwed this. Up SO i hit a drive even with
the tree in the. FAIRWAY i mean it was one of.
Those it was, like, OKAY i saved the last my
best drive because my partners we were, saying, oh you,
KNOW i, Said i'm. Done i'm mentally spent after these four.
Days i've. DONE i wanted to go in and drink
(02:25:25):
beer and died after the night. Pole but It's pebble
and your buddies are there and it's such, beauty, right
and the weather was, perfect and THEN i hit my
Second it's a three shot. Hole you Can't you're not
getting there in two and usually the winds in your,
kitchen and SO i had a rescue club to ninety
yards and flipped the wedge in there at a fifty
six Degree LIKE i said to twelve feet and missed
(02:25:45):
the birdie and the par putt birdie putt from twelve
feet rolled by went up and lipped out the par
putt and then the ball ended up down with the
seals BECAUSE i just DECIDED i don't want this ball.
Anymore but that's what they. Do it makes you feel
like an. Amateur oh, So scotty chef and four, punt
what do you stared at an? Eagle i'm, saying, well
welcome to those of. Us double digit handicaps for people
(02:26:07):
that are you, know shooting eighty two is on a course,
station shoot seventy, two but don't, right and it's, like,
OH i chill your. Struggles but you know then and
then that guy will goes make four birdies in a.
Row BUT i LOVE i love this this. Stuff and
you're right about solid ball Striking, dan the PHRASE i
love golf lingo. Right oh, yeah when they say solid ball,
(02:26:29):
strike AND i know what they. Mean you're hitting on
the square on the club and they're wearing a, striper,
right you just need a great strike and you're striping
it the way you want. To but in, truth when
they call a golfer a, broadcast the guy is a
solid ball. STRIKER i mean that's like to, say taking
every quarterback that's thrown a, pass it's Good burrino And
(02:26:52):
Aaron rodgers And brady And manning and saying solid football
throw the guy's GOT a guy makes great solid ball.
PASSER i, mean you, know Or Matthew. Stafford it's, like,
really aren't they all don't they Can't they all rip
it a little? Bit yeah, it, yes, yeah, right, right
all BUT i THINK i could spin. It, well guess
(02:27:12):
what if you play On, SUNDAYS i would imagine you
could spin. It some spin it better than, others, right
but they can all spin. It and but in golf
and it's, like, oh the guy is such a ball. Striker,
well no, kidding, yeah, BALLS i mean you want me
to go to the one hundred and twenty Fift Max
home is a solid ball. Striker Scottie scheffler is a
solid ball. Striker, now you may be striking it solidly
(02:27:34):
on better. DAYS i struck it more solid at you,
know At Cyprus point THAT i did At Pebble beach
for the most. Part but then you strike and hit
a few Shots you're, like, Okay i'm, quitting and then
you say, No i'm. Not i'm actually going to invest
more time into golf BECAUSE i hit that. Shot and
that's what sucks about. Golf you, know you quit on.
Hole you've done, It, Dan i've done at. Seventeen, Right
(02:27:56):
i've had. It you know how many of us have
played at your brother? Me you all of us AS I,
okay you know, what the shot Of jamison sounds pretty, Good,
dan we're bull. Twelve you want to just let's just
go in BEFORE i have to go get a whole
new set of. Clubs and then then you make, birdie
parr bogie, double and then you get the last hole
and you, say, Okay i'm not playing golf for another.
(02:28:17):
Month and then that happens and you're either pissed because
you didn't make the putt so you got to go,
back or you're feeding off the three straight shots you
hit that made you look like a. PRO i actually
played that hole like a you know WHAT i? Mean
you hit the, drive hit the second, shot flip a little,
wedge and you're, like, damn this kind of looked Like.
Scheff with the bigger difference is he makes the, putt
goes out with the, birdie wins the TOURNAMENT i boge
(02:28:39):
it after three, putting and Then i'm pissed overnight and,
say how CAN i get back out there and fix
to my? Game hits why they're solid ball strikers in
the pros and in truth at this. Course if you
hit it two seventy but keep it in the short,
grass you got a better chance then hit it three
twenty and playing out of that rough because you can
see it's frigging miserable and, brutal and the greens eight
this is his. Tough the test is they're going to
(02:29:00):
face all, year and it's looking like.
Speaker 8 (02:29:02):
It AND i mean that's the sickness that is, golf
BECAUSE i mean we've all had those rounds like where
you're just, LIKE i seriously don't know If i'm going
to keep playing this and then exactly as you, said
you do something really good and you're, like, okay that's
something to build off. Of, hey you know, WHAT i
can't wait for my next. Round like it's just like
like where's the middle ground?
Speaker 2 (02:29:20):
Here?
Speaker 1 (02:29:20):
Man like you're just about to give away the clubs
and now you're back right and the day your driver's,
hot your putter sucks for a. Sandwichers the day you're
you're hitting, irons you are ball, Striking you're you're having
to do it out of the rough because your driver's
not keeping in play the. Day you're putting out of your,
mind which you'll save. You you're doing it to save
(02:29:42):
bogie because you've missed the greed right with your with
your ninety yard you, know flipping a wedge at at ninety.
Yards but you're so, right and it is. Frustrating resilient
would be a good. Word we talked about baseball be
on the golf course and THEN i got. Buddies you
know that mental, toughness but it Will i'm telling, you,
man it. Is it is the greatest Of, OKAY i
love this game. Too it can. Ship you talk about
(02:30:05):
how quickly it can, shift kind of Like. Kulk you,
know one, second oh, man going three holes in a
rown and then, boom boom. Boom you're, like what just? Happened?
Right you missed a lipt out of, putt snap hooked
your next drive and then three petted and before you,
know you're, like well what just happened to my? Round?
Yeah it is A it is a maddening and you
(02:30:26):
got to be a sicko to endure, it especially when
you're an amateur hour and you're not shooting sixty eight
right and a bad score seventy four bad scores ninety,
right those, Guys BUT i can't imagine being a Pro
DAN i, EQUIVALLY i make the equivalent to. This IF
i were to go out and pick up a football right,
NOW i can still throw it. RIGHT i don't mean,
(02:30:46):
it are you, Say, Sean i'm going to go out
here and stand at the curl. ROUTE i can throw
a twelve yard curl to you with zip and make
it look like, okay, guy does's have to throw a?
Ball and IF i started doing that right now and
you were standing there AND i missed you by seven
feet fifty times in a, Row i'd be, LIKE i
don't mean, It, Erican BUT i was a. PRO i
shouldn't be missing that. Right how DO i don't enjoy
(02:31:07):
playing catch anymore IF i can't throw it to? You
i've always And i've Asked Pat perez, this and, guys
how do you enjoy playing a round of? Golf you,
know even when they're with their buddies going out and
having a beer and playing in, shorts they don't want
to go shoot ninety they're betting with their, buddies they
want to, play because then that creeps, in like where'd
that come? From Right i've had it's, like, well where
the hell did that come? From even though if it's
(02:31:28):
just with your buddies smoking a cigar and drinking a,
beer you're still those guys are still shooting seventy five
on their course from the back, Tees And i'm, like
what do those guys go through when if they go
through three rounds when they're just kind of playing by
their self with their buddy and they go eighty seventy,
eight seventy. Six how do they have fun if they're playing?
Poorly because Even i'd go. Utenough IF i went out
(02:31:49):
and play catch with you and bounce seventeen balls to,
You i'd be like the, yips what is going on?
Here i'll go home and actually think about. It so
when your pros like, THAT i wonder on their time
when they're playing with their their leisure golf, time if
they're enjoying it when they're not playing, WELL a lot
of beer help. THAT i just want to BECAUSE i
(02:32:09):
would not enjoy going to a camp for kids and
throwing balls round and, like damn, it it's almost, embarrassing,
Right so you're like looking around even if nobody sees
you like as right as a pro, Golfer you're, like
how do they just shoot seventy, seven seventy, eight seventy
eight three rounds in a row with my buddies at
my home course and you know what they? Do let
me get my ass to the range because something's not right.
(02:32:31):
Here SO i always wonder in a profession that we
all treat as leisure and fun and get into it
because we're. Amateurs how the pros feel when they have
that amateur day leisure, day or they shoot eighty two
or do they do they ever shoot eighty two when
they're drinking beer and cigars with their buddies or is
it an eighty? Round is it seventy four with their?
Pits so it's just an interesting. Dynamic you, know they're
(02:32:54):
smoking it all over the. Place but what a what
a personality tester golf Is and for those, pros this
is it for, Them this is the biggest test of the. Year.
Speaker 8 (02:33:01):
WOW i mean it's the age. Old you, know, hey
how DO i be a? Pro play like that? Guy
like if you ever played alongside A pga. Professional, yes
and you see ye like, everything like how smooth the swing,
is how they line up their, putts just whatever it.
Is you're just, like, yeah you know, what whatever he's,
GOT i don't have AND i never, Will like it's
not going to.
Speaker 1 (02:33:20):
Happen, yeah go play around with a guy who's a scratch.
GOLFER a buddy who's just an. Amateur is a buddy
that plays a, lot is the club CHAMPION i played.
With those guys are like and they're hitting it where they.
Want they're telling, you, hey, man you want to be
on the left side of the fairway here so you
can come into the right, pin and you're, like, DUDE
i just want to come in on the short. Grass
and they're hitting it to a circle that they want
to hit it in right, Right and they're scratch. Golfers you,
(02:33:42):
know they're hitting to ninety three hundred yards if they're
if they're, long and but they're they're you, know they're
they're a bogey of holes are. Bad they're paring and
they're birdy and then they par and they take one.
Bogie they don't have many, blowpoles and they're shooting seventy,
four and you're, like where'd that come? From but that's
a good. Round you're, like, man this dude so from my,
buddy is so freaking. GOOD i got a lot of
those guys are better THAN i, have far. Better and
(02:34:03):
then you say that guy wouldn't sniff a win with
the one, hundred with the three hundred best player on,
tour the fifth best player on the college golf team
is smoking your your single? Digit you're scratch, golfing. Buddy,
yeah it's. CRAZY i mean how good they? Are you,
KNOW i was a plus five and a plus. Six it's, like,
man you're playing in a world that ONLY i can dream, of.
Speaker 8 (02:34:22):
RIGHT i would love it, Absolutely and continues on up
