Speaker 1 (00:02):
Salsbury.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Okay, let's do this Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 3 (00:12):
To usc Troup's longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Dan Matthew, excuse, this is the Sean Salisbury show.
Speaker 4 (00:23):
And Walker drives this one toward left center field.
Speaker 5 (00:25):
That one is headed for the gap and it will
bang off the wall just below the twenty five foot barker.
Our two base scores Parades goes to third, a ringing
devil by Christian Walker.
Speaker 6 (00:39):
It's two to one Detroit. Both runners. The responsibility of
results in the two to zero and that's lifted in
the shallow center field.
Speaker 5 (00:47):
Green coming and he'll bouts in front of a paraded
Scores Walker right behind him. He scores Astro's lady three
to two. Eider Ds comes through.
Speaker 7 (00:58):
Here's the pitch, breaking ball, all grounder up the middle,
and that's through base it the Astros with a two
run lead. They pisched to Alvarez, sharp single up the middle.
It's four to two with his eighteenth RBI of the season.
Speaker 4 (01:15):
Two balls to two strikes.
Speaker 7 (01:17):
Here's the pitch and that's ripped pretty hard deep center field.
Back on it green and he's gonna have to play
it off the wall at ricochets Alvarez is gonna score easily.
And here comes Piredes chugging for third base, sliding it
to save. Now it gets away and it's lucky and
hits off the fence, a run scoring triple by easac Parades.
Speaker 4 (01:43):
The Astros lead five to two, set out the belt,
oh two.
Speaker 5 (01:48):
Swinging in a mess, got him on the slider, and
that is the ballgame. They Houston Astros score six times
over the sixth and seventh innings and they defeat the
Detroit Tigers for second straight day tonight by a score
of six to four. Astros hand the Tigers just their
second series loss of the year.
Speaker 4 (02:08):
Yeah, so that happened, and with that we say away
we go here on the Seawan Salisbury Show Sports Talk
seven ninety. Robert Ford told you all those details, the
maybe not so good hopefully it's good. Tomorrow morning, the
Rockets trying to stave off elimination down three to one
to the Warriors, as we will have that for you
here tonight. And yeah, like I said, way we go
(02:31):
here on the Shawn Salisbury Show this morning. Good morning,
everybody got Sean. You got triple e. Dan Matthews here
with you and Sean, I mean the Astros last night.
You know it's again you want to look at how
this season has gone so far to this point as
opposed to this time last year, and I'd have to
(02:51):
go back and see on April twenty ninth what the
Astros were last year. I know that it was not
good u but it was way below five hundred. It was.
You know how it's like those those deep dive people,
like what they call him free divers that they're they're
not scuba divers, but they go way down into the
ocean and then they have to slowly come back up
so you don't get the nitrogen poisoning. Yeah, the deep dive, Yeah, yeah, yeah,
(03:15):
that's that's what the Astros were. They were slowly making
their way back up I think at this point last year.
Speaker 8 (03:20):
Right from twelve to twenty four to win in the division.
But you don't want to rely on that every year.
You do that, but again down and find a way
to hit themselves. Yesterday back into it and from yiner
and you know, getting a rolling pain at the top
(03:40):
of the order.
Speaker 4 (03:42):
I'm telling you what. Pradus has been a good get.
Speaker 8 (03:45):
I don't know if he's gonna end up being you know,
giving you everything Bregman did, but I could tell you
this one thing he does give you better than Bregman
is a faster start, to say the least.
Speaker 4 (03:55):
Even though it's not a three thirty.
Speaker 8 (03:56):
He seems to every game come up or you know,
not every game a little hyperbolic, but come up with
a hit or a play.
Speaker 4 (04:03):
And yesterday was no different.
Speaker 8 (04:05):
So it's nice to see kind of understated but doing
his gig every single day and playing pretty damn good defense.
So some good things to like yesterday. You know, didn't
like haters in there. That's the first time this year
he's showed signs of a little and they had enough
of a lead that it was fine, but you just
you know, he's been rolling so good, but they were
able to.
Speaker 4 (04:25):
Get it done.
Speaker 8 (04:26):
I love the fact that another one of those games
Dan where you're not at your best but you're still
pitching staff in the rest. You're not at your best,
you didn't get into six innings or seven innings as
a starter, but you still scraped out and hung in there,
and then the bats awoke and did enough to win,
and then you held them off. So it was impressive,
very impressive, and a couple of home runs. I know
(04:47):
we're still waiting for Jiner. I mean for your done
to hit four or five games in a row where
the balls leaving the ballpark. It'll happen. But take them
anyway and get Detroit's Winning these games at home against
the Detroit team that's really good is impressive.
Speaker 4 (05:01):
It is impressive. And I mean, you know, not only
you take this series from Detroit, so it'd be nice
to get a sweep tonight. But I mean, still, you
feel really good heading into a series against the lowly
white Sox with two out of three against Detroit. But
you've beaten Detroit at home in a series. You've beaten
the San Diego Padres in a series, and I understand
(05:21):
it was Opening weekend, but you've beaten the Mets in
a series at home, and Shawn all three preseason playoff picks,
Bingo and some World Series hopeful and tops of their
league too. I mean that's the other part of it.
I mean, the Mets, ever since they left here, they
have beaten everybody in the submission. I think they have
twenty one wins already. But I did the little exercise
(05:42):
of what were the Astros last year? While you were
talking they were ten and nineteen at this point. They
had April twenty ninth off last year, But so I
went ahead and went to the thirtieth. They were ten
and nineteen. They did not get their sixteenth win last
year until two weeks later. From this point last year,
there you go was when they became sixteen and twenty five.
Speaker 8 (06:03):
Not they're not playing the way they want to play,
but they're playing much better than they did play last
year to start, and they're doing some things that were
much better early this year than they were last year.
So you know, like I said, you're going to gather
stuff all the time from things that are going on
that you do you don't like. There's never it's like anything.
(06:25):
You never have the perfect practice or perfect no matter
what you do. Even when you win a game and
you pitch a perfect game, somewhere on the other side,
not everybody got to hit, somebody miss driving a runner
and you may have still won.
Speaker 4 (06:36):
Right.
Speaker 8 (06:36):
So, but there's there's so many good signs of the
growth that they're making with some young players. And the
truth is one thing we really don't talk about enough.
And I know maybe in baseball it's a little underrated
or understated is the we talked about, you know, clubhouse
presence and you know fitting in with a team. In football,
(06:59):
we call it culture. You know, all those things or
what you're creating. And you know what what Kelvin Sampson's
done with the basket culture on the unit at the
u H. And I don't know if we culture is
a thing, but I don't know if we use that
that much in baseball. It's like, you know, uh, there's
a strong clubhouse, good leadership culture. Yeah, I think, I
mean it's the same thing, just to use a different
(07:20):
phrase to arouse refer to football culture culture and they
just it's a different way of saying it.
Speaker 4 (07:25):
But is it still takes time.
Speaker 8 (07:29):
For Christian Walker and parades and Wesnsky I meant to
fit in. I mean when I say to Okay, this
is how they do it here, whether that includes Cam
Smith and includes Dezenzo who's been here but still not
that long and not from the start of a season.
So there, there's there's a part of that growth and
(07:50):
that goes with being you know, getting yourself comfortable. So
they're working through that as well, because this team's always
had that. Our guys here they welcome me in this
is a really strong club house. There's not a whole
lot of whining and off the record talk and you
know those things that you hear in team meetings and
all that. Right, so in clubhouse meetings and players only
(08:11):
means that they'll have them.
Speaker 4 (08:12):
But it's not.
Speaker 8 (08:13):
This isn't one of those where every time you lose,
somebody's looking and pointing a finger. They kind of just
roll through it. It's good, as you know what I'm saying.
We hear it all the time. But it's like, oh,
here they go again. Oh they're having they're having another meeting.
Oh there's an in house fighter. There's this is just
it doesn't ever seem to be that there's something outside
of baseball bothering people here. Have you ever noticed that?
(08:34):
Think about it for a second. We never like, oh man,
there was a fight in the clubhouse. We never hear
any of that. There's such a the presence and there
is good. So the guys adjust to it. Now it's
just for them getting down the baseball part of, you know,
doing what they want to do to make sure that
they elevate. And they're not there yet, but you see
signs of why this team always hangs around. They got there.
(08:58):
There's some strength and lead ship numbers, and you can
lead with five or six guys.
Speaker 4 (09:02):
You don't need one.
Speaker 8 (09:03):
Whoever the one voice is, they'll decide that in the clubhouse.
For us, it's just if somebody knew all the time.
And Yiner seems to be starting to get back to
his game. And I just, I mean, I like the
steps and maybe it's because we were so stunned by
their start last year and you mentioned ten and nineteen
at this point basically, and I like the way they're
finding ways to win games that they got behind it.
(09:24):
Now you don't want to keep doing that, right, But
it's because normally in the past, and you know this
hasn't been here for a long time, is that this team,
when they start fast in a game, man, they're devastating
for others, right. And I'm sure the statistics are overbearing
and overwhelming for most teams when they get out fast,
But this team's really been good at hammering you at
the beginning, like through this seven or eight year run.
Speaker 4 (09:45):
Right.
Speaker 8 (09:45):
But they and they'll get back there. But they're they're
winning different ways. And that's why in one hundred and
sixty two games, You're going to have to do that
and against the team who can pitch well and has
got World Series aspirations to do what you did and
start slow, but find a way to come out of here.
Uh you sweep this. That's a hell of a good start.
And you mentioned the teams that they beat early. That's
(10:07):
saying something, man, that is and and it's allowed messages
in because you do not want to be in an eight, ten,
twelve game chase all the time. You know, you just
want to hang around for eighty of them, have your
Saturday moving day for the next forty and then close
it out, you know, the final forty two or forty games. Sure,
And so that's you hear him say, play you know,
(10:29):
over five hundred baseball for and then then you you well,
with the Kentucky Derby coming up, then that's and down
the stretch they come, but have to where people are
chasing you. But this team's proven they can do both
be out in front and chase down. And I kind
of like the new makeup of the team, even though
you miss some of the older veterans that were here.
Speaker 4 (10:46):
No, you definitely do. And bregmant Homward last night for
the Red SOX got a shock and yeah, exactly the
start that he's off to you up there. But I mean,
it's good to have that in your back pockets because
I feel like they had to finally somewhat develop it.
And I don't even think they did develop that muscle
memory last year, Sean. They had spurts, but then it
(11:07):
got late in the season, and I get it to
Jordan wasn't a one hundred percent. Kyle Tucker was not
one hundred percent the last time that you face these guys.
And by the way, too, I heard the TV guys
talk about this last night. Apparently I think the Tigers
were twelve and oh this season when they got out
to an early lead, and you've come back on them
twice now, so two games in a row. He's thrown
(11:27):
them off their game. Oh so they were with ten
and oh, with I think twelve it is what they were.
Well that's even that statistic even bears out more impressive. Yeah,
good point. Yeah, and especially to coming back against some
really good pitching and you've been able to get it
done late. And I mean, you know, and one thing
too that I think we can talk about here is
(11:47):
the show continues, is you know one of the distractions
that I don't think you had that you have that
you did have last year. So we'll talk about that
also too. We've been some rockets as the show goes along,
and uh we do even though we're months away from
college football. Something I saw yesterday that I was just like, now,
(12:08):
come on, man, we'll work that into the conversation here
sometime as the show continues. But again, if you want
to jump aboard on the phone line seven one three
two one two five seven ninety. Again, it's seOne three
two one two five seven ninety. Just getting started here,
Western Wednesday edition of The Shawn Salisbury Show. Hello haters
(12:28):
from LA to New York. Parker up and.
Speaker 2 (12:31):
Kiss hour ass Astros.
Speaker 6 (12:35):
Oh bye goodness, this is Sports Talk seven ninety Home
of your Astros still twenty seventeen, chaps.
Speaker 4 (12:44):
Hell doubt about it.
Speaker 2 (12:46):
Sean Salisbury Show continues right now.
Speaker 4 (12:53):
Again sebone three two one two five seven ninety. The
number to jump aboard on the phone lines. And Sean,
you know one thing we didn't talk about last segment
with this astros when last night is the pitching where
that first inning you give up the leadoff homer to
carry Carpenter and then you've got a little bit of
a labor it through inning for Ryan Gusto, but he's
(13:17):
able to make it to the fifth inning because I'm
thinking with that first inning, I think he reached thirty
pitches in that first inning, if I'm not mistaken. If
it wasn't, it was going to be tough to be
long for six or seven a. He's got to a
point where, I mean, you know, I heard TK and
Blummer show the dugouts and they mentioned that Josh Miller
was already on the phone, and it looked like guys
(13:38):
were starting to, you know, starting to move around in
that right center field bullpen where you're thinking, well, maybe
this does become a pseudo bullpen game today, But luckily
you're able to avoid that. And then hats off the
ben at SUSA. He comes in and is able to
hold off the Tigers for any more damage, and you
keep it at a two nothing lead after the fifth
inning and then the sixth inning, that's when the Astros said, yeah,
(14:00):
now it's our time.
Speaker 8 (14:02):
Yeah, and I and you know what, sometimes even in
a start like that where you come out and you're like, okay.
Speaker 4 (14:07):
That this is not his day. Gusta.
Speaker 8 (14:11):
I'm talking about it where you say, okay, but you
know what after the you know you said, you get
you're pushing thirty pitches. The fact that he stayed in
and gutted it out to give the bullpen, because that
could have been a two thirds of an inning bullpen
and you and you use it up. Then you got
to go pitch today and you got to hope that
you know what I'm saying, the collateral damage becomes a problem.
(14:34):
The fact that they had the wherewithal to say, let's
let him fight through it, and that they got back
into it and he was able to push it, you know,
through and grind it out, is saying something. It just
is because regardless we say, well, what's three innings or
three three and two thirds innings for bullpen to come in, Well,
that just changed because then the next day, guess what,
your long guy's not available the next day or maybe
(14:55):
two days after that. So I just I thought, sometimes
even in a struggle, you can gather some really good stuff.
And his grind was really good and needed and needed.
And I'm going to tell you, man, the way the
starting pitching is up, this is going to be a
if this keeps up Sands. Yesterday, even though he grinded
(15:16):
it out and didn't have to do you didn't have
to have eight innings of bullpen you had. You know,
we're able to go a little less, probably more than
you wanted to. And you would like him to go
in and win four and a third, right, That's what
I'm saying. So but instead of being pulled out, instead
of being pulled out in the first inning, or coming
out and going one and a third and somebody's got
to get you those extra two or three innings, but
to gut it out and even though you're not having
(15:38):
your day, find a way to survive it, and that
the collateral damage helped. I'm going to tell you as
we go on in the season, with all the talk
on hitting and you know, driving the baseball and slugging
the baseball, did the starting pitching obviously in the bullpen
still a strength of this team that if this continues
and they keep getting quality stuff, even though it's not
(15:59):
a quality stuff and get to five things, but the
grinded out stuff, a fresh bullpen in the.
Speaker 4 (16:03):
Second half of the season is going to be monster.
Oh yeah, I mean it possibly sets you up to
look a little bit like twenty twenty two did, where
that group was unhittable, no doubt. I mean it was
pretty much you get to the you get to the
back end of the bullpen, even the middle relief too.
That's what I'm saying. It's all the way through. It's
what to seek you in the thinking that, hey, Rafael
Montero has turned the corner in his career, let's let's
(16:24):
keep him here. Because he's turned the corner. He had
not turned the corner in his career, but you know
that's previous time.
Speaker 8 (16:30):
There's no question about it. You got to find those
things out, and you did. But I can tell you
that what do you always say, man, Because that bullpen
getting hammered and then all of a sudden over usage,
it rears its head once you roll into like the
August part of it, right, and you don't want that. So,
even though it wasn't what Gusta wanted, his ability to
(16:53):
grind through it and for them to let him pitch
his way out of it and then you know, they
jump back and get the lead. It was a not
his best start, but still impressive in the fact that
you just he didn't let it send him to the
bullpen after an inning and a third.
Speaker 4 (17:11):
Well, I mean, you know just what a difference a
year makes two again, I mean, remember last year you
went through that stretch where you had to bring up
Spencer Arraghetty earlier than probably you wanted to, and you
had to kind of piece this thing together where Blair
Henley had to pitch. And where I'm going with this
is AJ blue Ball is going to make his major
league debut tonight for you because you wanted to push
(17:32):
back Hayden was nesky from his last start, to have
him a little bit more fresh for Friday and give him,
you know, just an extra day's rest, where with not
having the off day in between, you would have been
having him come back right on the fifth day. And
Joe Aspada and Cruz said, not a good idea. Let's
go ahead, and you know, make sure this guy's even
more ready to go. But I mean, you don't necessarily
(17:54):
know what to expect from AJ blue Ball tonight, so
you might need these guys to kind of stretch it
out a little bit more. Brian King, Yeah, need you,
Steven Okert, same deal? Need you?
Speaker 8 (18:04):
Now, you know what would be great is for him
to come out there and give you solid five and
two thirds. Would it be great to have that where
you go out there and you're sure that that's the
that's the blessing you didn't expect, right, I mean, they
probably do expect him to go do his thing, but
you would understand if it's not, you know, anxious, and
you get a little over anxious and maybe try to
overthrow and get those things which you expect guys who
(18:27):
aren't in your everyday rotation doing it and getting an opportunity.
I'm anxious to see it, and I'm also anxious to
see how deep he can get and what it means
and just kind of to see his stuff. It'll be
kind of it's it's a nice change up and running
him out there. So I'm sure right now when he
wakes up today, it'll be like, this is gonna be
a really cool experience. And you're going against a good team,
so it's a great test for him. Early on, Man, I.
Speaker 4 (18:47):
Didn't want to leave Logan Van. Why out? We can't
forget Logan Van? Why well? I mean, you know, I
just I it was it was it was an accidental omission,
is what it was. But what's his name? Logan van? Why?
Why find your find your van? Why? That's see that
was the thing when the why Yeah, when when Blummer
and them were trying to figure out what his nickname is.
(19:10):
I I had texted him, which I try not to
text here sparky during the bar broadcast because yeah, they're working,
they're working, but it's one of those that it's in
between innings. So I know, like, hey, maybe I got
a point around a couple of coffee or something. Yeah,
so I so I sent him a text, find your van? Why? Yeah,
that's that's That's what I'm gonna go with. That's just
logan find your van? Why logan find your van? Why?
(19:32):
I like it? Yeah, you know because doing all those
motivational speakers, you know, the Zigs and the Robins, see
where we're going there?
Speaker 8 (19:40):
Yeah yeah, that's I mean, there's your your go tos,
you know, how to win friends and influence people.
Speaker 4 (19:46):
I've always wanted to ask Tony Tony Robbins, because remember
he was in uh face, Well, I mean well yeah, yeah, yeah,
get how's that? How's that for you? He's printing money?
Oh yeah, he's been doing it for years. But I've
always wondered, does he have the hypnosis powers like he
did in the movie with Jack Black and Gwyneth Paltrow
(20:07):
where he had chow. That's it. Yeah, that's it. Yeah, yeah,
because he was the one. And then you have Jason
Alexander going to him and being like, what did you
do to my friend? Right? Yeah, that's you know what.
Speaker 8 (20:20):
I don't know, but I guess if you're a motivational speaker,
and you know, there's those motivational speakers that do have
that power.
Speaker 4 (20:26):
I don't know if people like that.
Speaker 8 (20:28):
I don't know if he's extended that into his regular
speeches and stuff, but he energetic.
Speaker 4 (20:32):
Guy. Be nice.
Speaker 8 (20:33):
You just spending your whole life making a difference with
people and filling buildings because you're a motivational space. It's
nice and you're exactly right going with that. Find your
why is a big part of it. So good nickname
for logan.
Speaker 4 (20:44):
He's changing, he's changing lives, shifting paradise right. Yeah, It's
like on the show Silicon Valley, Mike Judge, who used
to work in Silicon Valley, he always joked with what
the line is for people in Silicon Valley, and that was,
you know, we just want to make the world a
better place. It's like, oh, you're making computers, and I'm
glad that. I'm glad that you feel like you have
(21:06):
the power to make the world a better place because
we're now being able to log on the Windows ninety five.
Speaker 8 (21:11):
Yeah, and it's a better place until the technology doesn't work,
and then you're pissed and then you made the world
the worst place because we want to fight everyone.
Speaker 4 (21:18):
Well, soon enough, it's gonna be fighting us. Yeah, that's
the worry.
Speaker 1 (21:22):
You know.
Speaker 4 (21:22):
You wonder if Terminator or two becomes a documentary here
before we really do need John Connor. Yeah.
Speaker 8 (21:28):
And the next time I walk in this lobby building
and I have a guy at the front desk who
is about as rude and disrespectful.
Speaker 4 (21:38):
Astotype he he may. Well, let's just put it this way.
If I miss a segment today, it's gonna be because
of the security guy down there or pseudo whatever you
want to call him, who attacks you when you walk
in the door on his first day may end up
as part of the construction site. Okay, So I walk
(22:00):
in in a good mood every day. Oh man, he
was a little over zealous today, And I'm as easy
as you know, I don't bother anything. Yeah, if my
bosses are listening, you better go down there and take
care of him, because if I got to get out
of this seat and go down there, I'm gonna make
a clear path for everybody else that has to walk
in this building. Hey, you've you've told me the story,
(22:20):
maybe over the course of the show. If if you
want to share with the class, you're more than welcome to.
Speaker 8 (22:24):
Well, you know how it was like what did I
just Yeah, well it's his first day and if he's
not careful, Yeah, not a good idea.
Speaker 4 (22:33):
Well, I mean, I you know, for me, usually it's uh,
I've got my coffee, I got to have my Jimmy
Dean's you know all. You know, I'm in a good mood.
Speaker 8 (22:41):
You're in a good mood until somebody decides that they
want to that they want to wheel power that that's
probably not there see wheelhouse.
Speaker 4 (22:49):
For me, it's on the roadways, like where it's leaving
my my neighborhood. And I mean, and I've I've had
it a couple of times leaving this early of somebody
tailgating me out of the neighborhood and I'm like, it's
four thirty in the morning. Where are you going? Oh yeah, seriously, seriously,
where where are you going? And you do realize that
there is a lane to my left that if you
want to do this, I'm not stopping you. You got
(23:12):
somewhere to be. You're you're looking to go get the
CrossFit workout in. I don't get I don't know what
your business is orange. Yeah, exactly, you want to you
want to so badly go get on that rowing machine,
then go around me. Yeah.
Speaker 8 (23:25):
Other than that, I'm taking I'm drinking my coffee and yeah, yeah, exactly, Yeah,
I don't here.
Speaker 4 (23:30):
I was just listening to Billie idol Man. I was,
you know, eyes with no face. I just yeah, yeah,
I'll see him on Saturday. There you go. Jone Jet too. Yeah.
Oh jone Jet's big. Yeah, that's awesome. It's gonna be
a good time.
Speaker 1 (23:44):
I like it.
Speaker 4 (23:45):
So, you know what, every now and again you run
into somebody, it's like, what am I?
Speaker 1 (23:50):
Is this?
Speaker 9 (23:51):
Am I saying?
Speaker 4 (23:52):
Am I a sci fi movie? Yeah?
Speaker 8 (23:53):
It's when I walked in. How do you caught me
at the wrong time? I was in a good mood.
Yeah I'm not now, but how do you caught me?
At the wrong time. It was going to be a
tough day for the for the property manager.
Speaker 4 (24:05):
It's like one of the first shows we did remember about,
you know, just airport struggles and airport grievances. Yeah, I
mean that's the one where like, if you've got the
early morning red eye flight and you got TSA, that
is just on you. I mean they are just on you.
And you're just like, hey, hey, look, you asked me
to take the laptop out. I'm taking the laptop out.
Slow down. I try not to, you know, like your
parents don't talk back. Don't talk back. That's what it
(24:27):
feels like. Like it almost feels like my dad right
was doing TSA and like getting after me, and I'm like,
I'm like, hey, hey, hey, how about.
Speaker 8 (24:33):
How about when you walk in and somebody'd never seen
it's And he admits this his first day, but he's
going to do it, and you're going to obey what
he says. And then he begins to tell me, well,
you make one hundred thousand dollars. He starts talking about
I don't know who he is.
Speaker 4 (24:47):
He started, I.
Speaker 8 (24:48):
Said, I'm to work here. This is a guest book.
Why am I I got my key card here? What
And then he says, well, you're just you're yelling. I said, yelling.
I haven't evenen able to speak yet. And I'm telling you, dude,
I am underplaying this. I have never ever witnessed this.
Walking into a lobby of a building at five thirty
(25:09):
in the morning, trying to just Hey, how you doing.
I say every morning, so many different hey, good morning,
have a great day. My good morning to him was
stand up and basically looking for a fight. And I'm like, well,
keep looking, you're gonna get one because I'm a beg
forgiveness instead of ask for me lunch. But I don't
really care what the fallout is when I take you
(25:29):
and I whoop your ass six ways a Sunday and
put you in the guest parking lot and I'll take
your security badge or patch or whatever it is, mister
rental off.
Speaker 4 (25:38):
But he starts talking about my salary. I'm like myself,
so what, huh? Well you sign that you make one
hundred thousand a year?
Speaker 1 (25:46):
All right?
Speaker 4 (25:47):
I said what I said?
Speaker 10 (25:49):
Are you?
Speaker 8 (25:49):
Are you on a payroll up here? I said, I'm
just coming to work. Well, then I had to tell
him that says if you don't have a badge. Well
you're so when I'm in here, you're signing it, okay,
And he said, I know it's early. You've probably had
a bad start to day. I said, that starts my day.
I said, no, it's quite the opposite.
Speaker 4 (26:08):
I'm actually here everyone. But now now you're you're taking
it that direction.
Speaker 8 (26:11):
So any of our employees that are going to walk
through the building be prepared because if he's still here
and it was his over maybe maybe it's his overnight
shift and he's having a rough time this morning, but
you're gonna he's gonna tell your salary and if you
walk by, because you're gonna walk by and he's gonna
not greet you but assault you verbally. It's like what
because on a day had I woke up pissed.
Speaker 4 (26:34):
Regardless I I had been sent to the principal's office
and it wouldn't be but but I assure you had
to go.
Speaker 8 (26:40):
I'd got my money. Well, it's not days not over yet.
Give me till ten o'clock and then we'll see, because
I know he's not there. On the way out, we
got the nicest at Triple and I know the nicest gal.
Speaker 4 (26:48):
On the way out.
Speaker 8 (26:49):
Security gal awesome morning. Everybody there's awesome. This dude, Uh
for a first he he I think he thought the
badge meant he was Colonel Angus or something. Now, do
we have a taped interview or something and go down
there and read reassessment to the building.
Speaker 4 (27:04):
Maybe we could work on something.
Speaker 8 (27:06):
So to my iHeart employees there, anybody in this building,
be prepared because you ain't gonna like it. But man,
I'm sure he needs a redo, and it shouldn't be
with me because it won't be KaiA will be far
less kind than next apparent.
Speaker 4 (27:19):
Apparently we work now at Langley, Virginia. Yeah, and apparently
my key card just when you show it to him
now he needs the power. But I signed Joe six pack,
so just so you know, a building monitor, Uh, it's
Joe six pack. And I'm right up here in the
sand and he started telling me my salary. I'm like,
I didn't know you signed my paycheck. I appreciate it.
Speaker 8 (27:41):
You're a little bit off, but hang in there. Next
time I'll bring you a ham sandwich. I don't don't
know what his problem was, but he's lucky he didn't
open up the day with the bloody nose. So well, Sean,
really that's a fact because I know it wouldn't be
the first time.
Speaker 4 (27:54):
Well, you know the line I've said before, he ain't
the one to try, You ain't the one to try.
Speaker 8 (27:58):
Normally, I'm as easy going as a geft and I
was there too, but yeah, I started to give a
little problem.
Speaker 4 (28:04):
I start to see red numbers. Well you just just don't.
We don't need the wrath of Sean. Yeah, we know
that we do. But uh, he need in the in
the right in the right spaces. Oh good, yeah, all right?
Uh seOne three, two, one two five seven ninety the
number two get in Rockets too tonight looking to keep
(28:25):
the season going, we'll discuss that. Sean Salisbury Show, Sports
Talk seven ninety. The Seawan Salisbury Show continued pretty much
a nauseum yesterday of what has been the theme of
these three games. It has been inconsistent play out of
Jalen Green. It's been the free throw troubles and everything
(28:47):
else for the Rockets has kind of taken care of itself.
Those have been the issues. And you know, the funny
thing I thought about this morning, like the final the
other night one O nine one six when the Rockets
won their game one o nine ninety four. So maybe
the magic number for the rock Kids says, get at
least to one oh nine and we win this game.
Speaker 8 (29:05):
I think the way they've played defense is if there's
a very real possibility. As a matter of fact, I
would there's there's if you're betting, if you're betting on it,
and say, okay, over under to buck nine for just
the one team, not the combine. If there was, you know,
if you can get that, uh and say okay, if
they would, you would you bet money saying if they
made if they scored one hundred and ten points, they'd win.
(29:25):
I would absolutely in this series say yes, I would
absolutely say it. And so I think that's a great
goal to get to. Now you're playing in the nineties,
then the pressure on defense, and then those free throws
become a little bit more. You're a little more uptight.
They they got to extend. They've got to get out
in front of extend and uh, play out in front
for a minute instead of have to you know, chase
(29:48):
it down. And if they shoot free throws and play
defense like they've played, even if Jalen Green doesn't take
over a game they got a legitimate chance to win.
But you never know what Butler and Curry are going
to do. But you put it this way, you at
least give yourself a fighting chance if you shoot free
throws and play defense and then hopefully rely on what
(30:10):
you look like most of the regular season. But I
can tell you this, if Jalen Green urinates down his
leg tonight, it'll be a tough It's.
Speaker 4 (30:16):
Going to be a tough go. It's going to not
only be a tough go, it's going to be a
long off season until you find out the Rockets have
made a move or any of these other things. Because
we talk about reputations, that reputation will have started. The
clock started at that point.
Speaker 8 (30:31):
And what happens dan in sports is we have a
hard time as fans and media and even as players
at times getting the first initial thought process about a
player out of our system.
Speaker 4 (30:44):
I'm talking about postseason.
Speaker 8 (30:46):
We know how much improvement he's made and a really
good player, But coming out of this, nobody's going to
talk about Game forty five. They're going to be talking
about the five games in the postseason that your star
go and player and that you have high aspirations for
went one for five if he doesn't play well in
(31:06):
this one, right, and and then so in the offseason. First, yeah,
you don't want that, Oh, but we know guys have
been in league fifteen years. It's not it's the first
thing you mentioned. That's exactly right, Tracy McGrady, James Harden.
We've been through it all here constantly and it gets
overlooked and I know it's a small body of work
and it really is. But still five playoff games to
(31:30):
go to go one for five, that is that won't
be good enough to try to explain that out is
going to be a tough task. So he's got an
excellent out.
Speaker 4 (31:38):
Now.
Speaker 8 (31:38):
The flip side is go on a three game run
where you're you're playing, not trying to play hero basketball.
But it just rears its head for you. His off
season will be remarkably different, even if they don't get
out of the second series. Honestly, that first impression of
because right this offseason, if it ended today and we
didn't play a game, right now, you're gonna say a
lot of potential, but maybe you should because something he
(32:01):
did not play well in the postseason, but one game
you don't want that. It's hard to even if you
go on and play great basketball now, it'll eventually take over.
Speaker 4 (32:09):
People say, Okay, look what he did. He overcame this.
Speaker 8 (32:11):
As a young player in his first playoff series, started slow,
and now look at him for three or four years,
he's been a monster in the postseason. But if you
don't have that follow up, the thing we always go
back to is what happened to this dude? And he's
better than us saying he's not a good player because
of five postseason games. But the reality of it is
(32:34):
we judge every single player by that, as opposed to, well,
then you don't want to be the compartment. Oh, really
good regular season player, but man alive, what happened to
the postseason. It's like we do in football. Oh he's
a practice field all American. On the practice field, the
guy's off out of his mind, right, and we went
a great player on Scott kicking people's ass every day.
First got off the bus, right, and on Sundays, where's
(32:59):
that guy saw the other six days?
Speaker 11 (33:00):
Right?
Speaker 4 (33:01):
Exactly?
Speaker 8 (33:01):
You don't want that following you because then you've got
to overcome that, and then it's working on your game
and it doesn't. If it, don't let anybody tell you, Oh,
it's not that big a deal. I'll be fine. It
has a major effect on you. There's things that happened
in my career and not compared it to Jalen Green,
but you played well, but a postseason game that you
know that you did not play well in and got
your ass kicked. It's still I mean I quit playing
(33:25):
in ninety six, ten years that it still follows you around, like, man,
I could have done it. I let my team down.
And now the difference is in one playoff game. It's
a seven game series for them, and when you go
one after if you do it five games, like four
games out of five to two, I need more from you.
He's got an excellent opportunity to go from what appears
to be a little bit of a goat in this
series to being a goat if he takes care of
(33:47):
the last three.
Speaker 4 (33:48):
Big difference. Well, I mean, we've seen what happens in
this town when you perform this time of the year,
and if you're able to do that well, then you
start to have your name mentioned in certain ways. And
if you don't, well, you get your they mentioned it
in a certain ways they needed. They need Apollo Creed
in Rocky three after he just got beat by clubver Lang.
I mean, we know how cluver Lang is in this situation. Yeah,
(34:09):
I know the game. Yeah, tomorrow tomorrow there is no tomorrow. Rock,
Yeah is no tomorrow. There you go. But Jayalen Green, tomorrow, there.
Speaker 12 (34:21):
Is no tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (34:23):
There is no tomorrow tomorrow. So you got Rock looking
in the mirror. That was the turning point right there. Well,
for Jalen Green, today is tomorrow. Tomorrow's today, which is
today tomorrow? No, for Jayleen, it's a great up. But honestly,
you know, guys, when you're in this situation, there's only
(34:45):
two things. We're going to come out of this game thinking, right,
phenomenal later bounce back or what happened? Well, they need
to live today. I said, yeah, there you go, thank you, madam.
Tomorrow they said, is today for tomorrow? The past? It's
it almost needs to be a deep thoughts. Oh my
(35:07):
gosh with Philip slip smally thoughts. Guy, that's right. Yeah,
Although in this case, you know, Apollo was was huge
in motivation, no doubt, But the turning point was Adrian,
you become so tough yeah, yo, I just call her yo. Yeah,
I'm married a fighter.
Speaker 8 (35:26):
Yeah there you go right there on the beach. Well,
you're gonna need Jayalen Green to come out throwing punches,
you know what. Really, let it rip, I mean, let
it rip. You're one and three with there is no tomorrow. Yeah,
well tomorrow tomorrow's today.
Speaker 4 (35:42):
That's it. Thank you, thank you, you got, you got,
you got a Polo Creed right there, Tony, he's hitting
you with jazz. Put the guards up and then start
on the offensive and get back home. That's it.
Speaker 8 (35:53):
Get back home. It's you know, it's not one of
those what a detriment. It's a great opportunity for Jayalen
Green to.
Speaker 4 (35:58):
Be that guy. Yeah you got. You still got time
to question about no, go ahead and take advantage of
it as much as possible. There have been a lot
of fights in this Rockets Warrior series, but what about
a fight in this sports and unlikely of any We'll
talk about it here. Sean Salisbury show.
Speaker 8 (36:17):
Hey wits it vision dot com Doctor Jeff wits it
your lasic procedure expert, I care expert. I went and
saw him a couple of days ago and get some
things done. I'm gonna make a few, uh, go back
in there and make a few adjustments. What I love
is got right to it, settled it boom, scheduled, and
get going. You know, I've talked about these floaters right
(36:37):
in my eyes.
Speaker 4 (36:38):
I get to do.
Speaker 8 (36:39):
It's just it's it's natural as you get a little older,
your guys, floaters that eventually just kind of come down.
They float down in your eyes and you sometimes see
double or see a lightning bolt or whatever. And I
was a little concerned, doctor, whitch is not that big
a deal. It's not It's gonna be fine and.
Speaker 4 (36:52):
They go away.
Speaker 8 (36:53):
So I'm just gonna go and and it's been hovering
for a while and get rid of those so see
clearly again. But he's been so good with me and
with people I've sent him, with Lasik procedure he just has,
and with eye care. So I walked in, They're like, man,
these the floaters, what is it, No big deal, We'll
get it take care of. And I walked out and thinking, okay, man,
be back to perfect vision again. So thanks Doc. And
that's what he can do for you, whether it's lasick
(37:14):
or want to get rid of glasses or contexts and
feel comfortable. It's non invasive. You're not on the table long.
And I said, well, how long will it take? He goes,
You'll be in here ten minutes. So I'm really looking
forward to that ten minutes to get it done and bam.
So whatever it is, Doctor Whitston and his confidence makes
me feel like, oh, okay, this is perfect.
Speaker 4 (37:30):
Everything's going to go well. Isn't that what you want?
Speaker 8 (37:32):
Somebody I care is precious now, so go in there
and see him. It's seven to three seven one three,
three six five nine seven nine nine seven one three
three six five nine seven nine nine for It's a
free consultation, So go in there and check it out.
You may just want to find out what Lasik's all
about because it can be intimidating.
Speaker 4 (37:48):
He'll prove to you it's not, and he'll do.
Speaker 8 (37:50):
It phenomenal and you'll be seeing better than you have
since the prime your vision. I've done it, and some
of my friends that I've sent to him have done it.
Everybody's pleased. You'll love doctor Jeff Witzez. Pop on in there,
get your payment plan under under control, and get this done.
Speaker 4 (38:03):
Quit waiting. It's wits it vision dot com, wits it
vision dot com. Let the celebration start war.
Speaker 2 (38:10):
Sean Salisbury, It's a Seawan Salisbury show.
Speaker 4 (38:16):
And Sean, did you know that we nearly had a
fight in Major League pickleball over the weekend between the
Saint Louis Shock and the New Jersey Five. Let me
tell you what that pickleball will get you, will make
you want to fight man and the funny sh I
remember seeing pickleball for the first time when I was
a kid away at Camp Longhorn, and I was like,
this looks like a goofy game. Why wouldn't I just
(38:37):
play tennis? And of course over the years the popularity
has gained and now it seems like everybody's got one
of those you know, wooden rackets or whatever the hell,
and the whiffle balls that go with it. And you know,
anybody you talk with, oh I love pickleball. Oh it's
so great. Oh it's so amazing, and it's just like, yeah,
it seems like it seems like it. But what what
what got the gears in my mind start to earning
(39:00):
is what sports do you look at and you hear,
oh there was a bench clearing brawl or you know,
a couple of guys started to scrap, Like, you know,
the top of the top that we trust the most
is hockey, because it even gets to a point if
you've watched, like remember when HBO for years did the
twenty four to seven series and you'd have the referees
(39:21):
miked up. And I remembered one of the referees where
one of the other reps was going to start breaking
it up, and he goes, no, no, no, no, no,
let him go. Let you know, he's got that Canadian accent.
No no, no, let him go. Let him go. Let
them go, you know, and they and then they go
to the ice and of course he skates in. All right, boys,
good job, good job. You know you're still going to
the box. But you know, good clean fight. Yeah you
got to business.
Speaker 8 (39:42):
Yeah yeah, take care of don't hit somebody from behind,
no dog, no, no question about it. But you're right,
pick a ball probably wouldn't be at the top of
the list of a fight. But you know what in tennis,
when McEnroe would get fired up or Agassy by the way,
Agassy is now getting into pro pickaball, I believe, oh,
of course he is. It would seem that he'd be
(40:03):
less court to cover. Seemed like his hand eye coordination
would be pretty good for that.
Speaker 4 (40:06):
If there's somebody probably team yeah yeah, so but the
pickle ball, that's not one you'd think.
Speaker 8 (40:13):
But it's also think about it though. It makes sense
close proximity.
Speaker 1 (40:17):
You know.
Speaker 8 (40:18):
The verbis you could hear the guys even bore the
tennis and the competition where somebody is doing something talking
trash and you hear every word this set, I get it.
We need more mac and rows anyway, so let's go.
I think it's actually pretty cool as long as nobody
gets hurt. I like the feistiness. But you're right, you
don't wake up saying man, where was that battle? That
that fight last night? Oh was pick a ball. But
(40:39):
I'll tell you it's become such a crazy ass common.
I mean, people friggin love you build pickle ball courts
at your gym. Matter of fact, you have to now
remember when they used to build all the handball and
and uh racketball courts always Now it's it's it's if
you're building a workout facility, try to have pickleball courts
on your either indoor or outdoor or both. And they're
(41:00):
filled all day. Have you ever played it?
Speaker 4 (41:02):
I never have. I have it either. I watched it.
Speaker 8 (41:04):
I'm pretty intrigued with it, but I haven't got I
haven't picked up a paddle and gone played. But it's
I'm assuming the rules are like tennis, correct, I think
so for the most part. Keep it in the lines
all that, and your serve goes in the net and
you got the two serves to get it over?
Speaker 4 (41:17):
Is it once?
Speaker 8 (41:17):
I don't know, but I know this. The popularity of
it is ridiculous. Is it Olympic sports this year?
Speaker 4 (41:24):
Probably?
Speaker 9 (41:24):
Is?
Speaker 4 (41:24):
I mean breakdancing was so it would surprise me, right, Yeah,
I'm sure it is so, yeah, break dance absolutely. Yeah.
So we got that. All right, we can continue this
if you want to jump in on it, because I've
got a couple more thoughts on this. So, uh, we'll
get into the seven o'clock hour. It is the Sean
Salisbury Show, Sean Triple E, Emmanuel Elmore, Dan Matthews here
(41:48):

This is Sports Talk seven ninety from the Parsons That
Match Next Studios, old HOSTA.
Speaker 4 (44:00):
Okay, let's do this.
Speaker 2 (44:01):
Sean Salisbury.
Speaker 3 (44:05):
To usc true longtime friend Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 2 (44:07):
Dan Matthew excuse. This is the Sean Salsbury Show. Brockets
looking to stave off elimination tonight. They are down three
to one to the Warriors. Game five over at Toyota Center.
Astros beat the Tigers six to four, clinches series win
in that one Semon one three two, one two five
(44:29):
seven ninety the number two jump aboard. Dana Brown join
us at nine point thirty here on the show. You know,
we were talking about, you know, just sports that have
you know, the the hierarchy of fights. I mean, hockey
is number one. The ones that I've never understood, Sean,
And I mean you've been you went through plenty of
training camps, you went through all of these. The football
(44:51):
fights to me are the dumbest, Like I always love.
You know, the guy that throws the closed fist punch.
You do you realize you're throwing a close fist punch
at hard metal and hard plastic. Correct That that that
that thing that you're throwing that's got a bunch of
breakable things in it, it's probably gonna break.
Speaker 4 (45:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (45:08):
Then you find the guy who thinks it's a regular
boxing match or a street fight or a bar fight
and takes his helmet off.
Speaker 4 (45:16):
To fight. You're like, no, not not in these do
too many haymakers. Yeah, I've I've seen some of my
favorite favorite favorite fights in the world where you're like,
just don't don't get hurt, let him fight, you know,
just don't take her. Now.
Speaker 8 (45:30):
I've seen the helmet come off and then the guy
starts swinging in a little bit because he feels like
there's fifty guys fighting, right, Johnson, that's right. I mean
you get to a point where's like, you don't know,
but keep that on and and and aim low. Yeah,
you don't aim high when you're throwing a punch because
do you end up ay Man a good punch man.
But the problem is he had his helmet on, and
now you're out for eight weeks because you broke your hand.
Speaker 4 (45:51):
Yeah, that's the that's the only thing. Listen. I'm just
telling you coaches, we can't fight. We do it all,
you know.
Speaker 8 (45:57):
You know, go to the prescott say we got to
practice better and we got to be smarter. When they
go to the meeting room afterwards, they're saying, if nobody
gets hurt, it's like we need that. It happens on
every train camp at some point in time you want
to fight because it tells you you're tired of beating
up on your own guys. It's time for us to
practice against another team for two days or three days,
(46:20):
or get to this preseason. I saw it every year,
and it's usually you know, you're a handful of days.
It's not the first day. You'll get an over zealous
rookie sometime who goes one hundred miles. I was like
the vets. The lineman is like, slow your ass down
to learn, walk through this thing. My guy, Johnny Randall here,
I've says for Johnny that gave it together.
Speaker 4 (46:37):
Dude.
Speaker 8 (46:37):
He as an undrafted free agent now Hall of Famer,
one of the greats we've ever had. Dude, the second
he walked into that facility as an undrafted free agent,
he went eight million miles an hour until the day
I left, and he kept going, Meaning when he became
a star, he played the practice the exact same way
he did when he walked in there as an undrafted
free agent. That's That's one of the things I've noticed
(47:00):
in my career about great players that I played with.
As they got better, they didn't tail off the way
they practiced Saw, Rodney Harrison, Chris Carter, Randall, McDaniel, Scott Studwell,
Steve Jordan. I mean, the list goes on and on.
(47:20):
Every great player I was around. For the most part,
it's rare the guy practices horribly or just a McMahon's
probably one of them.
Speaker 4 (47:28):
Jim's not.
Speaker 8 (47:28):
You're not going to the Hall of Fame. But Mack
was a college Hall of famer. The guy's phenomenal. Right,
Mack was a horrible practice guy. It's probably practice. And
he'd rub it in, kid, I kid, you got this today?
Man on my shoulders bothered him.
Speaker 4 (47:42):
I said, bitch, you haven't practiced in three days, and
I gotta go take all the reps at a hundred
degree weather. He said, you got this, kid, And he
stand behind the thing with his hands in his sweats
like a laugh at his ass off, and nobody bothered
bothered him because Jim's wearing a Super Bowl ring, but
he was a gamer on Sunday. The dude, you said,
I don't know what it's going to look like. It
may be ugly, maybe a little wobble, but he'll run
for twelve yards and dive for a first down. Take
on a guy cut a guy on a block, make
(48:04):
four throws, we go in. So Mack was one of
those guys like, dude, you and I told you, did
you practice the wonder you don't want to practice?
Speaker 8 (48:09):
You suck at it? That was Mac and it was
he embraced it. It's like, yeah, but man, I'll see you.
Speaker 4 (48:14):
And it was true.
Speaker 8 (48:16):
Those guys are rare, right, yeah, but it's I never
saw one those guys, so you'll get that. And Johnny
used to antagonize on but he was playing hard, and
I think it's a big reason why, aside from he
worked on his skill and perfected it, but his motor
and we hear that a lot. It's not underrated when
it comes to guys like him, right at his position.
Speaker 1 (48:34):
And so we go.
Speaker 4 (48:35):
But you get eventually the offensive and I was on
that team that the offensive line coach and the defensive
line coach almost started fighting because well, you guys are
holding Well it's a walk through. What's Johnny and dude,
they cust in the whole time and then practice over.
They all loved it.
Speaker 8 (48:49):
But in a fight in football, if it's a smart
one where nobody gets hurt after the fight, well, coach
a break it up, kick him off the field. You
guys take the next two, the next ten series off.
Speaker 4 (49:00):
We can't do this.
Speaker 8 (49:01):
We got to be a smarter football team. This will
get a certain penalties. Anybody hurt, No, we're a good
guy gets hit. Everybody on the line, Ye, right there,
you all got we're running. Yeah they're pissed, but no,
nobody's hurting. Oh you got a little bit of a
bloody you know, his hands a little bloody because you're
at the bottom of part. Got stepped on by a cleep.
But everybody's good. Then they go into their meeting room
after for.
Speaker 4 (49:19):
It's like, yeah, you see that rookie we got. Yeah,
what a great fight. Nobody got hurt. You hate it,
and then a guy gets hurt. Then you get dressed down.
Speaker 8 (49:27):
We can't fight our own People love the energy, but
fights in football, you're right, they're stupid. But the smart ones,
that's like I always said, like the the the Joey
Browner six degree black belt guy. It's it's amazing how
everybody scrambles. I've told you when when a guy like
that comes around. But those those fights that people get
mad at, we show virally. Now you don't want it
(49:49):
to get the point where it starts on the practice
field and ends up in the stands. I'm just talking
about the good fight. Right during one on one drills,
a left tackle and the rush end or beating on
each other. Guy runs by him and you hear everybody
go craz what happens? The tackle pushes him as he
walks by. Next thing, you know, they're fight. Those fights
are fine, it's but it usually happens about five days
in the camp. Second two, you want to quit. You're
(50:10):
ready to retire, because when we could actually practice two
days back to back, you could go in pads back
to back, practice four days in a row, and by
that you're like day six, you're like, okay, man, everybody's tired,
irritable pressure. The veterans like, okay, let's get through this.
The rookies like nervous as hell, trying to make the
(50:31):
team right, right, And so they're fighting. The rookie's going
harder than the veteran who knows he's starting. And it's
a walk through drill, but this guy's got a little
extra burst to show the coach that he's a practice
field right.
Speaker 4 (50:41):
Oh, there's no doubt.
Speaker 8 (50:42):
It comeswhere right, And then you love the guy when
he makes the team, but while it's going on, you're like, dude,
I'm gonna kick your ever loving ass and you're going
And as a quarterback, you sit back and laughed because
you're like, none of this bothers me, but I love it.
But you know your team and batters to him. That's
kind of when you know, okay, these guys are ready
to play. But yeah, the football fights are dumb when
(51:03):
you helmet off or swing high, but they're epic when
the one guy who comes to fight and you're like,
that's let's end this now, because it's somebody can get
themselves hurt and it'll be by him because he's a
bad man.
Speaker 4 (51:16):
I remember one of the first training camp practices I
ever went to in this industry, Demiko Ryans against Jeremy Shockey.
Saints and Texans were practicing and Dimiico got him with
a couple of good shots, not close fists, by the way,
because demikos a pro.
Speaker 8 (51:29):
Oh yeah, Demiko knows how to do this right. And
then and they're good and then when it's over, you
walk out. Fill in a good fight.
Speaker 4 (51:34):
It's it's not a big deal. The key is good,
great yeah's and people get all up tight. Do you
hate each other? Absolutely a matter of fact. If we're
not fighting sometime during training camp, I got a problem.
And inevitably when you practice against somebody, there's it feels
like there's a fight every a receiver and a dB
you'll get into it, and then the quarterbacks you're back.
Who do I get to fight with special teams?
Speaker 8 (51:54):
That happens all the time, especially getting off the ball
the guy's grabbing him and clutching the gunners or yeah, regularly,
So you know, and you want to but it's you
want to be smart about it, but it's kind of
protocol in a training camp. And who wouldn't dude think
about being around somebod every day where you're not fighting,
you're just talking to him. Now it's intense, and you're
(52:14):
sweating and you're tired, and the pressure to make a team.
You're gonna get in fights if you're not fighting. I'm
a little worried about smart fights. I'm a little worried
about the intensity of my team if I got to
ramp them up and practice.
Speaker 4 (52:25):
Well, because it's you wonder if it means enough to you.
You wonder if if if it's going to If it
doesn't matter to you right now, is it going to
matter to you when you're in the state there's no
question or will there be excuses now? The other side
of it is true.
Speaker 8 (52:37):
The one guy who is an agitator all the time
on the practice field to the point where even his
own defensive guys go up and grabs, say, dude, you
can't hit our receiver when we're in shorts and a
T shirt and helmets. When he crosses the middle on
a dig rote and you're hitting him like it's we're
playing against a point. He's on your friggin team. We
don't need him out. John Robinson once said, you hit
(52:59):
that you know the guys would come through and you'd
be finishing your throat and they get too close during
a drill you run by the quarterback.
Speaker 4 (53:07):
Coach Ravison List said, you hit that.
Speaker 8 (53:09):
Guy, I lose my job, and that means you lose
your job. And just to send the message, don't hit
that guy. Then when Warren Moon's finished in his throw,
don't don't get near him. On a Wednesday at practice,
run by him. Okay, we know you beat the guy
and you could have sacked him, but that's one thing,
(53:30):
but we're not giving you any no credit. If Warren
hits his head on the thumb on your helmet and
we lose him for six weeks, which means now my
contracts in jeopardy and you will be cut. So don't
be stupid, especially if you're a rookie. We don't get
close run forty yards by him. We know you beat
the guy on the interior push, right, But then there's
that where you're like, dude, I love the message you
(53:50):
said me. You can't be hitting guys in shorts and
a T shirt every day. Now, it's now you get
rid of our guys. We always love the coaches stay
off the quarterback.
Speaker 4 (54:00):
Every every day.
Speaker 8 (54:02):
Yeah, and then, but that also pisses the rest of
the guys off red Jersey punk.
Speaker 4 (54:07):
We we stay off the you pencil next year, pretty boys.
And then we sit back there with a smile a face.
Yeah it sucks to be exactly Yeah, yeah, we're the ones.
We're the ones in the trenches here, you guys. Yeah no,
it's uh yeah, but I'm taking you out to dinner
this week, so it'll be mad there you go the
Thursday nights, that's exact. They always they always pay off,
for sure, But uh, the baseball fight's the ones that
(54:28):
always cracked me up because nobody does fake tough guy
like baseball players. Well, basketball is close, it's their neck
and necks. Oh yeah, there's nothing but a pillow fight's like,
come on, underrated fights though, Nascar fights, motor sport fights.
Oh yeah, you know their life's on the line. You
took me into the wall. You're reckless out there, dangerous
ice now every now and then you'll get that baseball guy. Yeah,
(54:51):
oh there's no quote, you're exactly.
Speaker 8 (54:53):
You'll get that baseball guy who actually is a good
fighter and he gets hit by a Pitcher's like, well,
I wouldn't want to fight Bob Gibson at his best
or Don Don Drysdale. Those guys are mean and you
didn't even you didn't even step out in front of
home plate when you're one of those guys. But you'll
run into that guy that has had it and is
a and that there's no longer a pillow fight, and
that knows how when he attacks the pitcher. First of all,
(55:15):
remember the guy who turned around after a pitch and
drop kicked the guy.
Speaker 4 (55:18):
And the journey kick. They said, you're not tackling me
from behind. Now it's that guy.
Speaker 8 (55:23):
And my favorite is the one the pitcher who throws
inside or hits a guy and then antag it but
then takes a dead sprint. No one that the guy
at the plate's a little bit bigger than you. Oh,
take a sprint, go and let all the fellows jump in.
But they're usually weak fights. But you will get that
guy once in a while, like this guy's got some
boxing skills and knows how to break it down before
he over it chases you down. They break down and
(55:46):
make you come get them instead of over hit and
fall to the ground. You get one of those guys.
Those guys you may not want to brush back, but
there's some badass pictures up there that encourage you and
give you the old Yeah, like, come get something.
Speaker 4 (55:57):
You know what some of this come on. Pack of
lunch that's exactly out here. Yeah, and pack a good
one too, right uh, speaking of packing a lunch, could
you eat at the same place for six straight days?
Somebody did, And we'll break it all down for you

Speaker 2 (57:08):
The Salisbury takeout, Salsbury takeout on the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 4 (57:55):
It is Sean Salisbury Show. Sports Soccer seven ninety Astros

five against the Warriors Tonight over at Toyota Center. They
are trying to stave off elimination. All right, Sean, So
I follow this guy on Twitter. He's up in Cleveland,
(58:15):
and he goes by, sir yacht Is, we're talking about Cleveland, Texas, Cleveland,
the Ohio. Oh, you're talking about we do have a Cleveland, Texas.
We have Cleveland in Cleveland, Ohio. He's up in Cleveland, Ohio,
and uh, he put this out on Twitter a couple
of days ago. I ate only Chick fil A for
six days and he went all three meals breakfast, lunch,
(58:38):
and dinner, eighteen meals across the board. It cost him
just over two hundred and eighty dollars all total, but
every single one was either chicken, biscuit minnis. Maybe every
once in a while you throw in if you want
to avoid the fried stuff, you go with you know,
the rap or the Southwest Salid.
Speaker 1 (58:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (59:00):
Yeah, I telegraphed that I knew. I knew where it
was going. But do you chew where? It depends on
where you're going with I'm asking because I'm just wondering
if you chewed about do you chew like chew tobacco? No,
your food? Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, nuts. Now what else
you say? Still gotta be say even I even I tried.
(59:25):
I tried to make sure that you know, I had
the guards at the gate right there, and because those guards, dude,
I left the lobby. That's true, A good point. I
always was in that fight that you were talking about.
Tell but he's got a need one. But yes, dude,
so yeah, you even preference. I said, Okay, where's this going?
And you still got it? Yeah? But anyway back to
(59:47):
the real part of that. So I was in the
muck and the mire there, Yeah, eighteen meals, yeah, it
has me twenty one, he's seven, three twenty days. It
was six okay, I'm six, okay, yeah, so what so
he changed it up and we got we got lost
on rapt these nuts. Okay, where are you going with this?
So where I'm going is could you eat at the
same place for six straight days? Easily?
Speaker 5 (01:00:10):
Now?
Speaker 4 (01:00:10):
Think about this.
Speaker 8 (01:00:13):
If you're in like a small town like we were
talking about the other day, like and going to the
just going to the same diner, like you know that
place you got it's my favorite breakfast pie.
Speaker 4 (01:00:20):
You go every day? Sure, for a month straight? That's
your ay? Norm like in cheers.
Speaker 9 (01:00:25):
Right, yeah?
Speaker 8 (01:00:26):
Is that different because of the wide variety like going
to a a that has a huge menu where can
order eight different you know, eighteen different things. No, I
don't think, so okay, so going I have no problem
with it. People go to Starbucks every day and get
their same you know you mentioned you make a biscuit
at home or something, go there. But no, I think
now if you'd have said he did it for six
(01:00:47):
straight months every meal, now I'm looking saying we'll do
either you check your cholesterol or and come back and
say I've lost twenty pounds by eating fat. You know that,
I'd say, damn, what are doing? Are we really onto this?
Speaker 11 (01:00:58):
Right?
Speaker 4 (01:00:59):
Right? Six days? No, I could, especially now you and
I have talked about it.
Speaker 8 (01:01:03):
It was it what you said. It was a Chick
fil a. Now listen, man, but that sandwich you can
already see yourself in. I can't three days in a row,
so six I I Yeah, I think I could now,
especially if you're now if you tell me you've got
to have the same wrap or every day, every meal,
would be like, what do I get at the end
(01:01:25):
of it? You know, I don't know if I do
it for pleasure even though it's good food. But I
I have the pleasure that's exactly right for me go
going to a six day. I think I've done it before.
Now it might not be for It might be for
a coffee and a muffin. It might be for a
banana bread. It might be for a breakfast sandwich. It
might be at some point in my life. I'm sure,
(01:01:46):
Like especially in college. You know, how do you man
you go to Burger King at lunch every day with
your buddies when you're walking by to go back to
your apartment the dining hall. Right, Yeah, so I don't,
but I wouldn't want to do it, but hell don't you.
There's certain meals that during the week I'll have, like
eat like like all grilled chicken a couple of times
a week. Or I know that's not eighteen straight meals,
(01:02:08):
but I guess if you put it to me, I
could eat pizza. I thought about pizza, but I don't
eat it cold. But the thought of pizza at six
then you have to eat three meals pizza but once.
But I'm talking about six straight days of cold pizza
or eating pizza in the morning. Sure you'd get to
play gosh, thang. This is a little bit of a beatdown,
right plus the right exactly, no question. I put talapenas
(01:02:31):
on pizza, so that yeah, and that that.
Speaker 4 (01:02:33):
Yeah. You know what I'm saying. Overload and extra. So
I it's a lot, but I'm not sure.
Speaker 8 (01:02:41):
Maybe the expense will get you, but I'm not I
don't know if eighteen straight meals is something that would
be that hard to do, especially now if you sent
me to a place that, like the food was trash,
but you got to eat like a fast food places.
I hate that place, but I'm going to go there.
But I think Chick fil A you could probably you
can handle that for eighteen meals.
Speaker 4 (01:03:00):
I would think. So, I mean you need incentive at
the end or could you just do it to do it?
I mean, it's it's one of those that kind of
like our buddy or my buddy that I said had
to spend the twenty four hours at BUCkies. Yeah, I
mean maybe it's something like it's not even a punishment necessarily,
but it's a challenge to you because you lost the bet.
Speaker 8 (01:03:17):
Harder to do three straight days at a BUCkies for
twenty four hours and when they come in you got
to just move around and do it, or those eighteen
straight meals at a fast food restaurant. Oh, the BUCkies,
no question. I mean that EASi or harder to do, harder, okay,
just because the overnight sleep Yep, yeah, I would agree.
I think that that's just not that BUCkies is the inconvenience,
(01:03:40):
but happen to It's two in the morning, so it's
not your home, right.
Speaker 4 (01:03:43):
Yeah, the comfort of it and least have to go home.
You can kind of switch up, you can eat different
parts of the menu. I think it'd be I think
you'd be surprised at how actually how easy it would
be to adjust to that for at least six days.
Oh yeah, I mean because that's the thing is, like
you say, there's the variety, and then it's also they
don't have them here, but because you know, I worked
(01:04:04):
in Atlanta and that's where Chick fil A is. Yeah,
that's our corporate off it is. So they would have
different specialty restaurants that they called dwarf houses. Some of
them had some of them had buffets, and then some
of them had like an entirely different menu different from
just the you know, number one, the numbs, the you know,
the tenders, the wraps, all that kind of stuff that
(01:04:28):
they had, even that, so you could do it there
because then, yeah, you know, you could throw in a burger,
you could throw in whatever the hell else. I don't know,
chicken enchiladas.
Speaker 8 (01:04:36):
I don't know what would be easier eating dinner for
breakfast six straight days, like pizza for breakfast or eating
breakfast for dinner.
Speaker 4 (01:04:44):
Six straight days. Breakfast for dinner. Yeah. I actually, when
I was growing up and we embraced it, it was
regular curds, pancakes or French toast or sausage, bacon and
eggs at dinner. Dude, Oh, it was a regular curt No,
it happens to me all the time. Like where it's
I'm sired cold here you go. I mean, it's it's
I'm tired. I look in the refrigerator, I say, well,
(01:05:05):
there's breakfast food. I'm just like, I don't want to
go to the store. Here. I'll just scramble up some
eggs really quick, throw some bacon in the oven.
Speaker 8 (01:05:12):
We're good, right, Or just scramble eggs and one that
I can put salt on at the next time.
Speaker 4 (01:05:15):
I can put cheese. Ones I can eat it. I'm
with you one hundred percent.
Speaker 8 (01:05:18):
Well, I don't mind dinner for breakfast, like you said,
some pizza the next day, but six straight days of
it would start to wear on you. I could eat
a breakfast burrito at dinner six straight days, not bad,
an I Yeah, so I think that. Matter of fact,
I think that kind of works into I kind of
like that. But so it would be easier, I think,
But eighteen straight meals, by the time the six days
is up, you're like, okay, yeah, no Ida, McDonald's or
(01:05:39):
Chick fil A. In this case, while it would be great,
you probably say I'm gonna take a little bit of
a break from chicken, not just Chick fil A, but
chicken for a while.
Speaker 4 (01:05:45):
You know, you know you no longer have that hankering.
Oh that's it's one of those you know, you see
it when you're driving on the freeway and you're like,
oh man, that sounds really good right now. Is there
something you eat six days a week six straight days?
Speaker 1 (01:05:55):
Now?
Speaker 4 (01:05:55):
I mean Jimmy Dean's just because I bought them the
other day, so you'll know you're gonna you bought them.
Times are tight there. You just gotta yeah, you know,
I I I could, I could run through a drive through.
But you know it's also too trying to trying to
watch the weight waistline a little.
Speaker 8 (01:06:09):
Bit so, but you also got it. You also you
got to kick start that metabolism regardless. Make sure you're
eating in the morning so it has something to burn, right, absolutely,
eighteen straight the fuel the machine shown. If that's the case,
then it goes out there, go viral and there may
be a method to his badness. Maybe you're eating free
for the next six months if you if you post
that on on Twitter and say, look, I got the
best meal around.
Speaker 4 (01:06:28):
Well, we got some passes for you for six weeks.
So while he was doing it, there's you know, you
start then then you transfer into the influencer part of that,
so you're getting paid for it. There not a bad thing,
especially too when they roll out those specialty shakes peppermin
shake Man, let's.
Speaker 8 (01:06:43):
Go the specialties they like. Mike the mic rib always
comes back a certain time of year, right and after.
Speaker 4 (01:06:53):
Matt Thomas is a massive McRib guy, a little bear
little McRib make rib. Yeah, there you go. What did
I tell you the other day, Fanny be tender?
Speaker 8 (01:07:03):
We were talking about the Begis and I said, I
guarant asked to you, Mac is a mac. Uh Matt
is a I'm thinking about uh mattress bat Matt uh
Matt Thomas is a. I guarantee he's a Begi's guy.
And I said, I'll bet you he's got Fanny be
Tender to find out. Second he walks in, I go,
Fanny Betinder goes playlist right now, Ye.
Speaker 4 (01:07:24):
Yeah, it's all It's on my phone. He was like
fired up about it, like that's my guy. And I guarantee.
When you're driving down the street and he's got it on,
I said, you're stinging along. Archie goes, oh, absolutely, as
loud as possible, so we knew it. But he went back,
So he's a big you say, he's what what what
he's a he's a big McRib guy. Okay, Now do
they do it every year at the time. Yeah, it's
(01:07:44):
a specialty every year. Yeah, there you go. Yeah, so
it always builds up the anticipation for it. Absence makes
the heart grow fonder, Sean. That's what they tell us, Brandon.
They just leave and you never see it again. There's
there is that ghosting is the real possibility trust me.
Speaker 1 (01:07:59):
I know.
Speaker 4 (01:08:00):
So Brandon will get to you here. But also let's
get into a little bit of college football. You want
to win in college football, it'll cost you. We'll talk
about it here. Sean Salisbury show doctor Jeff witz It
at Witst vision dot com. Wh I T S E
T T the very best in the business. Talk to
those who've gone to the Lasik procedure like me, or
that get eye care from doctor Whitst. When you're talking
(01:08:22):
about your eyes pretty damn precious, right, so you might
want to maximize that and go visit with people will.
Speaker 8 (01:08:28):

is attention to detail. He'll treat your eyes like he'd
treat his own families or his own eyes, and he'll

post I care.
Speaker 4 (01:08:38):
It's non invasive. I wasn't on the table ten minutes
and seeing better than I had since the prime of
my vision. So for me, there's nobody better. It's doctor
Jeff Witzet at Witsitt Vision dot com. Again, wh I
T S E T T. When you're looking for your
eyes and they are precious, you want an expert, right
You don't want to leave anything to chance, and you
won't chance anything but success with doctor Jeff witze It.
(01:08:59):
It's wits it vision dot com. Wits It vision dot com.
That's wits it vision dot Com. The Sean Salisbury Show continued, Brandon,
good morning, Good.
Speaker 3 (01:09:13):
Morning, Sean, Good morning, Dan.
Speaker 4 (01:09:15):
How are you very well, buddy? How are you good? Thanks?
Speaker 9 (01:09:19):
Under a gay?
Speaker 3 (01:09:21):
Hey, let's try to get a knockout from the Rockets.
Speaker 4 (01:09:28):
Well, I mean, well, you don't want them to get
knocked out obviously, you know they can't. They can't knock
out the Warriors just yet. But they can at least
stay alive and maybe come back and rally for get
a knockout shot tonight. Yeah, there you go. Okay, Yeah, yeah,
I feel I follow you. Well, do you think, Sean, I.
Speaker 8 (01:09:47):
Think I'm right with you. I think they can happen.
I think they're gonna have a tough It's gonna be
a tough task with Jalen Green's got to play better
and they got to shoot free throws. Brandon, So I believe,
I believe we got a chance to come back home
three too. Now, it's a tough task beating the team
with that much experience three games in a row and
good players, but it wouldn't be the first time it happened.
(01:10:07):
So tonight's obviously it's an elimination game for them, but
they're gonna have to play better than they have, especially
their star. He's got to play like he did in
Game two and they got a shift free throw, so
I'll give him a legitimate shot. But if they play
like they did at the free throw line in game
what four? Uh, they won't They won't win this game.
So tough task on the road, but I think they've
(01:10:27):
got a legitimate shot. I'm gonna I'm gonna go out
there and say we're coming back for game six and
we'll see if they can close.
Speaker 4 (01:10:32):
It out in those next two.
Speaker 13 (01:10:34):
Yeah, who do we get?
Speaker 3 (01:10:36):
Pretty astros?
Speaker 14 (01:10:38):
Do you know what player?
Speaker 1 (01:10:39):
Who we got?
Speaker 4 (01:10:41):
White?
Speaker 8 (01:10:41):
Who's pitching tonight? They haven't made a trade since the
offseason or anything?
Speaker 12 (01:10:47):
Yeah, cowboys?
Speaker 4 (01:10:52):
Who did they bring up? He's gonna start tow He's
going to start tonight. Oh yay, Yeah, excited to see him.
Speaker 15 (01:11:02):
I'm happy to see him.
Speaker 4 (01:11:03):
There you go. Well, yeah, you'll be able to hear
it this afternoon here on seven ninety Brandon.
Speaker 3 (01:11:10):
Yep Hey, I'll be here Friday, but being Friday afternoon, okay,
well we.
Speaker 4 (01:11:17):
Look forward to hearing from you again tomorrow and then
on Friday. Well yeah, all right, man, thanks buddy, appreciate it. Brandon,
you guys, you buddy, see you buddy, No, I mean,
you know, just with the Rockets, I mean, you know,
it's one of those two where that competitive juice has
to fire up in you where you say, we're we're
(01:11:39):
not going out like this, like we we we put
in too much work, We did way too much, because
you get swept. It's embarrassing. The gentleman's sweep is five games.
That's another one that you're just like, hey, look, I
know that we wanted just four more games than they did,
but we were still supposed to put up a better
fight than this, and you know, they've kind of punked
us a little bit. I mean, I think that to
(01:12:00):
be in your mind too, if you're the Rockets of
they've they they've started the fights and they've been able
to handle the fights. Well let's go ahead and take
the fight back to them. Talked about it's gonna take
seven to do this, three in a row to be
able to do it. The good news is Seawan, I
don't need three in a row. I need one. Yeah,
and they will then you buy yourself another one. Yeah.
Speaker 8 (01:12:18):
You can't get to three unless you get to one.
Mm hmm, got are you're going home? I and you
know they're gonna that will be at their best antagonistic
wise at home and their abillion. You know it's coming.
They're gonna do. And we know who's famous for trying
to take you out of your game that way. I
have a hunch tonight.
Speaker 4 (01:12:34):
I don't even know who the referees are just yet,
but I think Draymond Green gets thrown out of this game.
I think that probably there was, even though there is
perceived coddling by the NBA with him for some of
the stuff he gets away with after he gets teed up.
But I've got to wonder if it's twofold number one
act like, oh no, no, no, no, we're not gonna
(01:12:55):
take this from them, but number two, I mean, you
don't want this, and possibly the Lakers series he's being done.
And I mean the only other one that would possibly
still be going on Friday would be Denver in LA
the Clippers. Right, So I think I think the NBA
wants this thing to go at least six. Yeah, and
you know.
Speaker 8 (01:13:14):
We know that Draymond will be in full force with
that tonight, right, and the crowd too. Of course that's why.
But this is one of those things you just don't
get caught up in all the periphery stuff.
Speaker 4 (01:13:25):
You just got to go, you do.
Speaker 8 (01:13:26):
You have to play like you said, you got to
play like a dog tonight and you got to let
it rip. And it's okay, they should take it personal.
Matter of fact, maybe that's exactly what they need to
take it personal. And you know when you talk about, well,
I'm not worried about being invested, every athlete I know
is worried about.
Speaker 4 (01:13:42):
Humans shouldn't be doing this if you're not right.
Speaker 8 (01:13:45):
And so if you're just playing this game tonight at
a sheer refusal to lose, because there's no way I'm
going home after you guys, Hammers and let you guys
have this whole off season where we got beat and
you talk about the gentleman's the four to one where
it's like, have we got one? But it was really
not competitive, meaning the series and if you lose for
to one, that's a non competitive series for the most part,
(01:14:07):
regardless of it is, and you lost every game by
two points. The bottom line is the world sees it
as well for one So it's okay to take this
personal and make it personal and play that way and
maybe not desperate, but you should, cause desperation leads to
a lot of bad decisions. But I can tell you
what if you don't have a sense of urgency from
the second that ball's tap by the time I mean
(01:14:29):
an hour before the damn game starts, it's gonna be tough.
Speaker 4 (01:14:32):
Because you know this. This team's really good and close out.
Speaker 8 (01:14:35):
I mean, the Golden State Warriors are, regardless of who
they are in the past, and now they still understand
what that looks like. And yes, get it back here.
And then now we may be talking, Okay, you can
take two of the here. You can, but you're gonna
have to They're gonna have to play their best game
of a series tonight because Golden State wants rest. They
do not want to have to go back here and
(01:14:56):
deal with this. Well, you're gonna you should. You should
expect them at their best. But those guys who need
to step up in Jalen Green's the whole key to tonight.
He is absolutely the whole key.
Speaker 4 (01:15:05):
Yeah, I mean he is. He scores, you win ball games,
he doesn't. Then you've seen what happens the three other
times exactly right. So Rockets hoping they can avoid elimination
tonight at the hands of the Golden State Warriors. We'll
get into that college football topic too. If you want
to jump aboard on the phone lines, Astros, Rockets, anything
in between, its fair games someone three two, one, two
(01:15:27):
five seven ninety Aggie dog, see you right there, working
you in the conversation as we continue here Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 8 (01:15:33):

Speaker 3 (01:16:25):
The Salisbury Show continues.
Speaker 4 (01:16:28):
Probably overrated, thinks so yeah, especially like what was his
most recent one, truck Yeah, Like come on, man, are
you even trying anymore? Like like really really, we're gonna
we're gonna sing a song where the hook of the
song is truck.
Speaker 8 (01:16:43):
Yeah, truck beer, tailgate and love songs. And you've got
a good country cut yeah, four wheel drives.
Speaker 4 (01:16:52):
I like it, I love it. And then it's funny
too because uh dan beer. Yeah, that's another one too.
Oh your boy Luke, Uh Luke likes beard. Is it
his cut?
Speaker 12 (01:17:02):
Well?
Speaker 3 (01:17:02):
He does?
Speaker 4 (01:17:02):
Yeah? Well is it?
Speaker 9 (01:17:03):
Uh? Uh?
Speaker 4 (01:17:05):
Cold? Was uh dark dark coffee in the morning, cold beer?
He's always is any guy whiskey in the evening, there's
any of the one who rain makes whiskey whiskey making.
There's some of them that honestly. I mean, look, I
think that you probably lay down that cut and you're like,
it's a paycheck.
Speaker 8 (01:17:23):
There's no way you're sitting there with you guys said man, man,
we're really bang Yeah yeah, well, I mean, look, you
could be a banger. I mean, you know, it ends
up and sometimes it ends up like it actually wasn't,
but people fell in love with it.
Speaker 4 (01:17:35):
That got a lot of money. If it's if it's
playing on Broadway and you got the Bachelorettes wearing the
pink cowgirl hats on the hay Ride, you know you
got it all.
Speaker 8 (01:17:43):
Shelton's got a few of those easily. Yeah, we've talked
about that. Yeah, you know what's the other one? At
the end of the tunnel. Oh, there's an eon light,
there's a knee the end of the tunnel.
Speaker 4 (01:17:58):
I'm like, I wonder what the name of the song
as you said it up, I know the day of
the cut. But it's like, so you just sat around
one day, yeah and decided, you know what, there's a
line at the end of the tunnel. Yeah, let me
let me put that, let me get a melody to it.
Let's get going and make five million dollars off the
cut or More'll tell you what. If you are not
for obnoxious crowds, obnoxious people, and all of those things
(01:18:20):
mixed together, then Broadway and Nashville is not your place,
right But I'm all for it, and I'm here for
it because there are cuts. Say, how did this song
make it to the top of the list.
Speaker 8 (01:18:32):
But Broadway in Nashville? Oh right, Yeah, it's classic, and
I don't hate him for it, but you're right, there
are some that kind of say, you know, I'm looking
for about a ten million dollars cut paint. I'm putting
this cut out, you know, one of those of you
make and you set it aside. Some of those guys
are listening to a camera, not Hudson Westbrook, And it
was somebody, oh, Cole Wetzel, And he was talking about
(01:18:53):
he goes I got he didn't like to give, you know,
give his songs to somebody else. He'll record them and
put him away sounds listening him in the morning. Trust,
you know, if it's somebody that you can trust, and
sure you'll do it. But otherwise, no, he said, I
got a bunch of them in there. You know, maybe
there's a times place he goes, and some of them
you recorded, sit there. They may not be a place
on the next album. They never get released, they're just
(01:19:15):
sitting in the coffers, right, And he was he was
saying that, and he said, every now and then you'll
have one. You just you put it on there and
it's like, damn, it's a big hit, right right, So
I guess you don't know. Some of them are like
what and then next thing you know, it's a platinum.
Speaker 4 (01:19:29):
Right. What was Littlema's favorite Stapleton one? Oh, he is
a it's not not the not the whiskey, not not
the He sent it in the tweet the other day
and I was like, that's right, that was one of
your favorites.
Speaker 8 (01:19:44):
He's he used to cry it laughing at some of Shelton's,
like Shelton's cuts, they like come up and like, like
we were talking about the beer stuff that Luke Bryan
says that it's like come on. He'd be like, come on, tailgate,
We've turned a tailgate into it the four minute cut.
(01:20:05):
But I don't hate them, dude, because you know what
which you may hate other people put at the top
of their playlist.
Speaker 4 (01:20:11):
I mean, it's it's and this is the time of
the year. This is prime country music season because you know,
you get floating the river, you know, you're on the lake,
whatever it might be. So maybe it goes with it.
Speaker 8 (01:20:22):
And you got your country music festivals going to just
s ended out in Indio this past weekend.
Speaker 4 (01:20:27):
So yeah, yeah, stage, coach and stage. That's exactly right. Yeah.
Where I mean, you know, like I've said it before
and some people have bristled at this, but I don't care,
is the two and a half weeks for the Rodeo
we cosplay in uh in western where because you don't
wear it every single day. That's my point with it,
is like I love people, Oh I wear my boots.
I'm not saying that you don't wear them, but I'm
(01:20:47):
just saying that, like, you know, the John Dutton vests
and the long sleeve pearl snaps and and that you know, oh,
we're in felt cowboys at cowboy hat season. Like I
remember that when I went to TLU, we used to
go to a place in San Antonio called Cowboys, and
I remember it was one of the cold weather months
and I wore my straw cowboy hat there and They're like, oh,
it's not straw cowboy hat season. I said, I don't
(01:21:09):
really know. This isn't white after labor day or before
later day? Right, yeah, but don't don't whatever the park
Avenue is of western wear, don't report me to them. Right, Yeah,
first day of school, new clothes, when you're an eighth
you have no excuse, right, Yeah, you went to Pennies,
you went to all those places. You got your clothes.
Speaker 8 (01:21:28):
You're looking good, you know. But me and my buddies
were the guys that don't wear your new clothes at first.
You know, in the summertime, your parents would take your shopping.
Right high school or junior high. You would make sure
you decided, oh, I'm too cool to wear my new stuff,
so you'd wait a couple of weeks. You'd have the
same pair of jeans and shirt, the T shirt you
wore last year, so you'd kind of what you'd kind
of wait because the cool kids don't have to impress, right,
(01:21:50):
I don't have to put the Then you'd see the
one who was decked out from head to toe with
the new and say, and they look pretty damn good.
Speaker 4 (01:21:55):
Yeah, but you're you were too cool to look good, right,
I don't need to. I don't need to bust out
my new stuff. I got you. I mixed. I mixed
a little you know hip hop in with right there. Oh,
there you go, which I mean, you know, shaboozy, shaboozy.
Everybody's at the at the barget and tipsy or or
in or in my case, my dog Pixie. Everybody wants
a dog like Pixie. There you go, Yeah, Pixie. Did
(01:22:17):
you name that dog?
Speaker 9 (01:22:18):
No?
Speaker 8 (01:22:18):
No, no, we got her with that little rescue nice Yeah.
Does she look it's a heat? No, I wasn't get
on you if it's a male, but you didn't a male.
Speaker 4 (01:22:28):
Pixie. Now she she knows who runs the house too,
so it's her. I was gonna say, she looked like
it looks like one.
Speaker 16 (01:22:35):
Right.
Speaker 4 (01:22:35):
Yeah, the name's She's the same type of dog that
Glenn Powell has brisket his dog. Yeah, that's that's that's
what Pixie is. Just don't eat brisket. No, well she
she would like to No regular brisket, not brisket the dog.
Oh yeah, that's Powle's Dog's day classic. What is it?
It's uh, I think it's a papion. I think I
thought you were gonna tell me it was a shnoodle. No, no,
(01:22:58):
I never thought that I'd be like because for the
most part, I'm not a small dog type of guy.
But I mean Pixie, you know, she just kind of
it's just a good dog and I can rescue it.
I'm oh, yeah, yeah, I don't care what size her
and Chacko, we love our pups. Yeah, there you go.
We named we named the matter the famous hotel in Albuquerque,
Hotel Chacko. I love it.
Speaker 9 (01:23:17):
So there you go.
Speaker 4 (01:23:18):
All right, get into uh, like I said, Aggie, Doug,
I see you want to talk some rockets and also
in the eight o'clock hour, mixing a little bit of
Astro's conversation as a familiar face could be returning soon.
We'll talk about it here. Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 15 (01:23:34):
KT Houston k t D h D two Houston, an
iHeart radio station.
Speaker 6 (01:23:41):
That's a Rocket Sports talk seven your home for your
home teams from.
Speaker 15 (01:23:48):
The Parsons that Matchine Next Studios, Houston.
Speaker 12 (01:24:00):
Let's do this.
Speaker 4 (01:24:01):
Sewn Salisbury.
Speaker 3 (01:24:04):
To usc troups, longtime friend Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 2 (01:24:07):
Dan matthewscuse, this is the Sewn Salsbury Show.
Speaker 4 (01:24:16):
I thought I said, but I did say. Game there
it is here. It's two two one one one. Yeah.
Isn't the NBA Finals? I think so? Yeah, two three
two yeah, right, it is here. James, you're exactly right.
Speaker 8 (01:24:26):
But it's a chance you don't want to go back here,
So it's a chance that I would have said the
same thing. I think they can go in and win
this game there if they're playing there tonight. But yes,
it is here. You're one hundred percent correct. Trying to
keep up with the two three to two because hockey's
also two two one one one. But yes, the game
is here, which gives them a tremendous advantage. And he
(01:24:47):
will be at his finest on the road, meeting Draymond
Green to one thing at home. But he loves the
antagonistic part of about it on the road even more.
He loves being the ultimate Wrestler's no, there's no question. Yeah,
there's no question, so James, Yeah, you're actly right. If
I intimated it was there, Yes, two two one one one,
chance to win her. What you don't want to do
is go back there for another one. And I'm more
(01:25:08):
of a for me series. I prefer the two three
two format, don't you. It's easier for the trap. There's
no question. So yes, James, one hundred pcent correct, the
game is here. You don't want to have to deal
with game six back there, but you're gonna have to
deal with game six back there if in fact, you
take care.
Speaker 4 (01:25:24):
Of your business. So that's a good thing. Here's another
Draymond prediction for tonight, Steve Kerr. Cover your ears because
every single time he is at the free throw line
a foul called on him. Anything that happens, the chants
are going to start. Oh yeah, and you know what, and.
Speaker 8 (01:25:42):
The self righteous approach that he has, he's going to
have to deal with that for for uh what forty
eight minutes in this game, and if it extended beyond that,
it's coming and he's not gonna like it, but that's
uh gonna oh well, matter of fact, the fact that
he addressed it and they know he doesn't like it, oh,
make it even worse here in this building. But yes,
James to the fire, thanks for letting me know that
(01:26:04):
I said two three two instead of two two one one.
Speaker 4 (01:26:06):
And I'd love for Steve Kurt to try to go
over do the college basketball coach thing of grabbed the
p the p a Micael Johnathan Sanfordie just do the wellmember, Well,
this is this is my Mike buddy, Yeah, this is
this is my mind. Go coach. Yeah, back it is Grinnon, Barretts.
He remember when Popovich did that about about Kawhi. It's like,
(01:26:27):
stop it, dude. These are your home crowd. Yeah, so
we can play some stop it. Yeah. I guess what, Greg.
Sanctimonious works when you're lifting Larry O'Brian's sanctimonious. When you're
in the lottery, it doesn't work.
Speaker 8 (01:26:42):
Yeah, And it sure doesn't work when fans are trying
to they're they're they're your fans in your building.
Speaker 4 (01:26:48):
This is a high school game. The amount of backing
for that guy that that fan base gives him is unreal.
Speaker 8 (01:26:55):
He's been a hell of a coach, but he also yeah,
but there's been There's no doubt there's some basketball coach.
What am I gonna ask you next?
Speaker 4 (01:27:03):
The Middle East? Yeah? Like, what do I need to
know from you? We're gonna make him an ambassador? Oh great, good,
good good. Then then then he can be in the
arena that he supposedly wants to be in. It appears yeah,
geez man, But anyway, the Astros beat the Tigers six
to four. They clinched that series looking for the sweep. Today,
aj blue Ball making his major league debut, and then
(01:27:26):
we mentioned the Rockets. They're down three to one to
the Warriors in that series. And uh, by the way too,
I mean, not only a great radio day for us
here on Sports Talk seven ninety, where you're gonna get
the Astros and the Tigers on deck, is gonna be
coming your way at noon, Matt Thomas bringing that to you.
And then if you're at that game, go ahead and
wonder just a couple of blocks down over to Toyota
(01:27:48):
Center and five thirty Rockets launch pad coming your way,
six thirty tip tonight over there, both of those games
right here on Sports Talk seven nineties. So hopefully it's
shaping up to be a great Wednesday here in the
h H seven five seven ninety. Let's squeeze a couple
of you guys in here on the phone lines. Aggie, Doug,
Good morning, Aggie.
Speaker 16 (01:28:07):
Doug, Good morning fellas.
Speaker 4 (01:28:09):
How are y'all very right? Buddy?
Speaker 3 (01:28:11):
How are you?
Speaker 16 (01:28:13):
I'm doing pretty good?
Speaker 12 (01:28:14):
Man?
Speaker 16 (01:28:15):
Uh hey, I just keep I guess I've just watched
sports too long. I just always draw comparisons the teams
and the players and that kind of stuff. Man, I
don't know about y'all, but does this team remind you
of like the early nineties Rockets, like the ninety two
ninety three uh, right before we started going on the
(01:28:35):
championship runs when we would run into like a Denver
or a Seattle SuperSonics, and those guys were just tougher
than we were. And they played, you know, they played
a different brand of basketball. They played dirty, you know,
Gary Payton and Sean kemp uh to kem bit mccombo.
I mean, uh, I forgot the shoot her. I mean,
I think it was Chris Murray. But would Rob dual
(01:28:58):
row Uh, he would kill us with the Denver Nuggets.
I don't know, guys, I just feel like this team
is is so young right now.
Speaker 1 (01:29:07):
They just need to go through this lesson.
Speaker 16 (01:29:08):
Getting their ass kicked and basically hitting the mouth and
what do you do now? And I'm really excited about
tonight because I just want to see how they respond
because this is the first time they've ever been in
an elimination game. And I don't know, I don't know,
but y'all, I'm just excited but I do feel like
a little bit of what we had to do with
(01:29:30):
Clyde Drexler. I mean, you have to basically say, you know,
maybe we need to make a trade for a guy
that'll get us that second championship, you know, and put
us on a real run that we can extend for
a while. And maybe you have to look at a
Booker or a Yiannis or somebody like that. I just
know that we'd have to give up so much to
get them with some.
Speaker 12 (01:29:51):
Guys like that.
Speaker 8 (01:29:52):
Yeah, Doug, before you go, man, good point. Do you
see you talked about going through this and I'm with you.
Growing pain sucks sometimes, but we all have to go
through them in some part of our career, our life, right,
and this may be theirs.
Speaker 4 (01:30:05):
They're really good.
Speaker 8 (01:30:06):
They're not at the great stage yet sometimes the only
way you get there is by learning how to get
there and how to suffer through this stuff that Golden
State went through before they were a seventy win team
and putting a ring on their fingers.
Speaker 4 (01:30:16):
So do you think they can do that tonight?
Speaker 8 (01:30:20):
Do you think they're prepared to extend this series and
that they've learned any kind of lesson in the first
five games.
Speaker 4 (01:30:26):
That gives them any a chance to go win two
of the next three or three of the next three.
Speaker 16 (01:30:32):
Oh, I absolutely think we can go win three games
in a row. I don't because honestly, this team has
responded really well when they face adversity. So I know
that you know when they hit you know, they lost
like six or seven games in a row, and finally
I think they had to beat like a Golden State
or they had to beat like a Lakers or somebody
like that in order to kind of get that win
(01:30:53):
off of their chest. I mean, obviously it's much more
amplified with an elimination game. But to me, I don't
see us not in any of these games. So it'd
be one thing if we were getting blown out every
single game and it was like looked like the Okacs
and the Cleveland Cavaliers. We're right there with them every
single game. You just haven't been through the fire enough
(01:31:14):
to where you can basically that last three or four minutes.
We're missing bunnies, and we're missing you know, offensive rebound
shots and things that just can't happen making turnovers. It's
just we just haven't been through it enough. And I
just I keep banging this to all my friends and
and I keep trying to like, guys, we are not there.
(01:31:35):
We're way ahead of schedule, very much like the Texans
where when when C. J.
Speaker 3 (01:31:39):
Stroud was a rookie.
Speaker 16 (01:31:40):
We're way ahead of schedule. If we can do it,
great because I think our talent matches up really well
with them. But man, we just haven't been through the
fire enough. And and in order to have those experiences,
you got to you gotta have the experiences.
Speaker 4 (01:31:54):
Yeah, I appreciate the call, Doug. I mean, there is
precedent for that. He's not wrong. And I was too
young to remember those teams. I mean, obviously I remember
ninety four. God I was in the building for Game
seven there at the Old Summit. But sometimes you do
have to find out where, you know, do we fit
or are we good enough? I mean, what year was
(01:32:14):
it with the Rockets. Was it eighty six that they
made that magical run to the NBA Finals? It was
mid eighties exact year, but I mean I remember they
faced the Lakers in that opening series and people just thinking, no,
it was Ralph Sampson time, wasn't it Ralph in a team?
And you know, you face the Lakers, and everybody's just thinking, oh, Lakers,
come on, they're gonna have no problem with that team
(01:32:34):
in Houston, and the Rockets ended up saying, oh, no,
you're gonna have a problem. As a matter of fact,
it's not gonna be another Lakers Celtics. It's going to
be us in the Celtics. So enjoy and enjoy watching
us on TV. They are doing what could you climate?
And you're not gonna skip wrongs on the ladder And
here they are and this is the all come to
Jesus series, man, it is. And if they lose it
(01:32:56):
that well, you're gonna be bothered.
Speaker 8 (01:32:59):
But the off season. But at least you know blatant why.
And we can put our finger on why right now
so far in these first what four games of a series,
you can so the narrative can shift in a hurry.
We've seen it before. It's hard task. You win in
three in a row and the travel that gets boom
boom boom, and two in your building and one of theirs.
(01:33:19):
But you know you do have a chance. But how
it's hard to learn lessons WALLA series is going on,
it really is. But if you're a quick study and
can learn those lessons quickly, you can actually apply them
to the next game. And the one thing, the controllable
part is get your asked the free throw line and
knock them down. Well, I can't help you with that,
neither can you, Dan, And in truth, I'm not sure
(01:33:42):
you maay can help them with that either. Right, you
put them on the line and practice and practice and practice,
but you don't know what kind of DNA somebody's got
in him at the free throw line under duress?
Speaker 4 (01:33:50):
Why this kind of dress?
Speaker 8 (01:33:51):
Because regular season intensity is just a bit different than
single elimination intensity. It's a fact. It just is, because
you know what happens when it's single elimination. You go
nineteen to thirty one, do that again, and they'll be
spending their off season shooting free throws while Golden State
goes on.
Speaker 4 (01:34:07):
I think they know this, Yeah, I mean, I'm sure,
I'm sure that the you know, the free throw shooting
and everything at practice that's been there. But I mean,
you you're one hundred percent right. I mean, you can
have them shoot a thousand free throws, but it's only
that one and then the other one that matters.
Speaker 8 (01:34:24):
And you can't simulate the pressure when everybody's on the
practice court just shooting, joking around, the coming upon that player.
Speaker 4 (01:34:32):
Two.
Speaker 8 (01:34:33):
Okay, how do you? How do you when you know
the fellows are talking to you and you're shooting free throws?
Are you hoisting them up?
Speaker 4 (01:34:38):
Because not every rep's a good rep, just like all
money ain't good money, like I like to find out. Yeah, well, yeah,
but it ain't. You know what I'm talking about.
Speaker 8 (01:34:46):
It there's a bag of a million dollars and you
found it in an empty warehouse and the cartel used
to live there.
Speaker 4 (01:34:50):
I would suggest you leave it right, Okay, that's all
money ain't. Yeah, yeah, I don't want to find out.
Speaker 8 (01:34:55):
But I hear people say reps, wrap reps well around
and find out right with wrong mechanics, it'll get you.
They find you if you're having trouble with your mechanics
at the free throw And guess who's gonna end up
at the free throw line to night that guy whoever
that is right, Well, I think we know who it is,
but that will happen, So you really are. You're on
your own at the free throw line. So however you
(01:35:16):
get there, and then it comes down to the pressure
and can you knock them down and they will be
put in. You go nineteen to thirty one a night.
Unless you have an out of body experience, it's hard
to beat that team.
Speaker 4 (01:35:25):
Yeah, it's probably not gonna happen, so let's try to
make sure we don't try to find out. That's right,
a smack to the face. It's a good thing.
Speaker 8 (01:35:34):
And this team, like all these teams that have won it,
Milwaukee had theirs before they wanted the hell they had
it in the series when they were down to well,
when they when they won that NBA title. Yeah, it's
it's not insurmountable, but it is a tough task. Well,
Clutch City can happen.
Speaker 4 (01:35:47):
We gone out before biscuit, Mike, get you guys involved
in the conversation. Also to in this eight o'clock cour
I do want to get to the familiar face that
could be making a return. We'll discuss here. Sean Salisbury show.
Hey with's vision, Doctor Jeff Witz. It's my guy.
Speaker 8 (01:36:02):
And if you need Lasik Doune you're tired of contacts
and glasses. I think this is not thinking. No, as
I've sent friends to him. This is the way to go.
Go see doctor Whitsett. It's not invasive. You will not
be on the table long. It is actually quite amazing,
how you say, well, wait a minute. You mean in
a matter of ten minutes, in two days, my eyes
are going to see clearer than they have since the
prime of my vision. And it's a fact, and it's
(01:36:25):
it was for me, and I think that you'll love
what doctor whitz It's all about when it comes to
easing your anxiety and stress over a laser in your eye,
easing your anxiety, stress about how quickly you come back
from it, and making sure you're comfortable. Because if he
treats his eyes or his kid's eyes, or his family's
eyes like he treats you own, you're in good shape.
Speaker 4 (01:36:46):
And take it from somebody. Talk to people who've done it.
And I have and I am a you know, I
am a client. Should I say client? I am a
patient of doctor Whitst's and couldn't be happier. I think
he's the best in the country at what he does,
and I think you will too, So go ahead and
see him. We've got that plan.
Speaker 8 (01:37:03):
Always something special going on with his deals, and he
will make sure that you get what you want out
of this and that's to see more clear.
Speaker 4 (01:37:11):
Without the hassle of contacts and classes. You're probably gonna
say I should have done it center.
Speaker 8 (01:37:15):
It's witsit Vision dot Com seven one, three, three six
five ninety seven ninety nine for your free consultation.
Speaker 4 (01:37:22):
It's free.
Speaker 8 (01:37:22):
What's to lose other than putting it off some more.
It's wits at vision dot Com. Wits it Vision dot Com.
Speaker 2 (01:37:30):
The Shawn Salsbury Show continues to no now you know.
Speaker 4 (01:37:37):
Biscuit, Good morning.
Speaker 9 (01:37:39):
Hey top in the morning. My brothers tell you kind
of Dan and Man. It's two things man. One, Dan
put me down. I'm the I'm that sanctimonious guy. That's
what you want to call it. Man, And I'll be
in the group man when some of my guys get
out of line and saying worry that they shouldn't be saying. Man,
you know, I'm I'm wonder check them on it. Man,
(01:38:01):
that's just me. Man, I don't I don't believe you.
You got a big enough cat vocabulary. We can use
other words. We ain't got to use curse words. You know,
I don't get it.
Speaker 4 (01:38:10):
What the just don't Yeah, Yeah, that's I'm with you
on that. Like I've got some buddies of mind, like
if we're around like other people, it's just talking about
the Steve Curse stuff. Oh yeah about oh yeah yeah, and.
Speaker 9 (01:38:21):
Then and then also Dan, I don't know, Sean, I
don't know if you're approached to Gianna's situation.
Speaker 8 (01:38:28):
Man, we did yesterday and no, we've We've talked about
it a lot. It's yeah, I'm all for it, aren't you, biscuit.
Speaker 9 (01:38:35):
No, I'm talking about last night doing.
Speaker 4 (01:38:38):
We haven't talked about that.
Speaker 8 (01:38:39):
We talked about Yeah, we didn't talk about the what
happened on it, you know, last night, but we did
discuss nice to come here, Yes, yes.
Speaker 9 (01:38:46):
With hats bad man, Yeah it is, and you know,
and and and the tie into the Shaduur thing. Shane.
I think some people are trying to portray Dion like
he's dead type dead. And I'm trying to figure out
why they figured that. But anyway, Sean, it's getting out
of hand. Man Halla Brancher Chick is dead. Man like,
(01:39:09):
hey man, this ain't this ain't the time, and you
can't get in the man's haled off and gave mailbow
or something. He'd been in the wrong right right, how
you gonna just get up in the man phrase a
curse yim out right after the game. I mean, it's
the level of disrespect is going around.
Speaker 4 (01:39:25):
Now, and then people are gonna get mad at the
guy who responds to it. You know what I mean, Biscuit.
Speaker 8 (01:39:30):
Yeah, it's like at the time when a player's got
to control his pops on the court after it it's
it's it's insane, it's nuts. You're exactly right, and there's
a big difference, right. I've never seen Dion Sanders. I
know that there's the they, and it's the perception because
he's a he's a presence, right. And one thing about Dion,
I understand that, you know saying this kid's gonna be
(01:39:51):
a top five he's proud of his kid and all.
Speaker 4 (01:39:53):
I get all that, and.
Speaker 8 (01:39:54):
Sometimes but what people think is that Dion's a helicopter guy.
But he may be a helicopter guy because presence right now,
I like the way Dion addresses his team. You sit
in front, you're going to class if you're not.
Speaker 1 (01:40:05):
I do.
Speaker 4 (01:40:07):
And I think he's raised his kids.
Speaker 8 (01:40:08):
Now listen, because the kid likes to wear the you know,
the money signs and stuff and swagger.
Speaker 4 (01:40:13):
Okay, but that's the way Dion's always been. So the DNA.
Speaker 8 (01:40:16):
But I don't remember Dion waltzing into a Maybe he has,
but you're right, Biscuit, I don't. I don't see him
as the guy yelling at the umpire while his kids
at the plate.
Speaker 4 (01:40:26):
I just don't. I think he makes his kid accountable.
I do, and I do. Now.
Speaker 8 (01:40:32):
You may not like all the things where he says
he's a top five and all the things that come
with it, but Dion's presence is because he's Dion Sanders.
It's not because he helicopters everywhere his kids go that
Dion's going to be out at practice every day.
Speaker 4 (01:40:45):
He's got his own crap to worry about. So I'm
with you on that, Biscuit. And I will never see
Dion walk on a court wanting to fight a guy
on another team after a game.
Speaker 8 (01:40:53):
You will not see that. Matter of fact, he'd grabbed
the rest of the guys said get over here.
Speaker 4 (01:40:57):
We're not doing that. I believe that, at least the
way I know him. So I'm with you one hundred percent, Biscuit.
Speaker 9 (01:41:03):
That's the thing, Shine, I'm listening to people on his
kin and stuff. They acting like Deeon raised his kids
a certain way. Man, they gonna you can best believe
Shad are gonna be on time. He's not gonna be disrespectful.
He's not gonna They get it mixed up trying the
loudness with the fact that Beon's old school discipline. Man,
(01:41:24):
you can best. But I've learned people like doubt like,
well you do is gonna play hard or practice or
if he's coachable or not. Man, listen, I didn't raise
his kids to be disrespectful. He gonna show up. He
gonna do his best, and that's it.
Speaker 1 (01:41:37):
He's not on question what the.
Speaker 9 (01:41:39):
Coach say, They're gonna come over there and try to
hold ride because that's not gonna happen. Sun.
Speaker 4 (01:41:44):
Yeah, people are intimidated.
Speaker 8 (01:41:46):
People are intimidated by Dion's power and presence from a distance,
even if he's not around. But you're you're one thing
I know, remember Tom coffling with the Giants Biscuit about
show up on time. If you're a minute earlier, a
minute late, you know late, you know where the team
colors and all that. You know that's the way we're
doing it. And don't wear the other team's colored socks
during the way, all those things. Dion's got way old
(01:42:09):
school rules for his guys.
Speaker 4 (01:42:10):
He does. You're thinking, Dion, this isn't the seventieses. Yes
it is. You get to class. If you don't go
to class, you're not playing set up in front. Take
take this up. We mistake the fact that, whether you
like it or not, that jewelry or the.
Speaker 8 (01:42:25):
Fact that he's got swagger automatically means he's going to
walk into the room and flip the middle finger to
his head coach in Cleveland. I if he doesn't make
the team, it's not going to be because Dion's sitting
in the building or because Shoudeur Sanders shows up late
to practice every day. We can deal with whatever happened
in the interviews that he didn't.
Speaker 4 (01:42:45):
Want to go. But Biscuit on with you.
Speaker 8 (01:42:48):
I don't have a problem with the way Dion approaches
his team. Shoudeur Sanders look swagger gets misplaced, and like
I said, some don't like it and didn't draft him
for it. There's a lot of different reasons, But to me,
I don't look at the reason, Shouldeur? So I'm looking
at the tape and and the rest Deon Sanders is not.
Speaker 4 (01:43:05):
I don't. I think Deon Sanders respects the coaching business
enough that now he may talk to the coach and
he may call him, say, Dion, what about this guy?
Speaker 8 (01:43:13):
And his kid's been raised by Dion and coach by
him his whole life. It's going to be different for Shadur.
But I'm with you, Biscuit. I don't look at Dion
and think, man, I've at that household was out of hand.
Speaker 4 (01:43:24):
I never do.
Speaker 8 (01:43:24):
When's the last time Shaduur Sanders, whether you like his
game or him or the way he handled his interviews
or not, when's the last time he saw that guy
get in.
Speaker 4 (01:43:30):
Trouble off the field? Name me a time I can't.
Speaker 8 (01:43:34):
Yeah, there's been guys that have done far worth so
Swagger or not, Budges, I didn't think he was a
top five pick and either of the NFL. But I
also I am not looking at him and rooting for
his for his for him to fail because he's a
Sanders and they got swagger. I'm not rooting for that.
I'm rooting for him to win and be successful. But
the way he was raised, uh, you know, even it
(01:43:56):
was he's had a privileged lifestyle because this pops was
a great player. But don't we all want our kids
to have more than we had.
Speaker 4 (01:44:02):
So you can disagree with that, But the one thing
you can't disagree with is diond has set rules and
done a pretty damn good job of it. And I
watched his face during all that stuff going down.
Speaker 8 (01:44:11):
We all saw the camera on him too much, probably,
but I didn't see him getting out of hand on this.
He stayed the course with this kid, and we'll see
how the kid responds at the next level where he's
not the guy.
Speaker 4 (01:44:21):
He's got to go learn to be the guy. I
think Biscuit makes a great point about that.
Speaker 13 (01:44:24):
I do.
Speaker 8 (01:44:25):
And uh, and what's his name is Halliburton's dad's out
of hand last night. It's just it's a long guy
to go play with him.
Speaker 4 (01:44:32):
I mean, I mean, you know, we saw it a
few years ago who was a jah morant and chan
Sharp got into it. I mean, I think it was
two years ago. I mean, I think that there's a
little bit with and I think social media gets into
this too, where I mean, you get the situations where
you feel like you know a guy when you don't
really know him, and We've seen it with fans too,
of talking to players when they're on the floor or
(01:44:53):
they're on the field, whatever it is. More often than not,
don't talk to him. Just don't like you're there to watch.
They're the entertainment. They they are the ones who are
the stars of the show. Don't even get me started
on super fans either of oh yeah you know that
guy's a textan super fan. I didn't come here to
see you. I came here to see them, right, they don't.
It should never be about the parents in the stands,
(01:45:15):
unless it's say success to this one. You're showing the
camera of them, it's great.
Speaker 8 (01:45:19):
I shouldn't be talking about Halliburton's dad the way we're
talking about when the game ends.
Speaker 4 (01:45:24):
It is silly more often than not. And I know
that you know this from experience. Who are the best
parents to deal with the former athletes? Because discipline? I
mean it's it's hey, you know, you know, like a
buddy of mine, coach Biggio's kids, and he used to
ask them all the time, Hey, how to do this?
Vigeo's response was always are you the coach? You got
it right?
Speaker 8 (01:45:42):
Like he was basically like, hey, like the last, I'm
coaching him, your coach. I'm a dad today. Yeah, that's
exactly right. And I think Dion's got a lot of that.
Like I said, you may not agree with the way
they go back. We don't know everything. He usually ends
up somewhere in between. Dan, it wasn't all that. Did
they twenty two teams collude because he still drafted him.
It wasn't about race.
Speaker 4 (01:46:03):
It's now. Some may have been turned off by his interviews,
the headset. We weren't in there. So it's usually some.
It's not the extreme either way. It's usually found somewhere
in between.
Speaker 8 (01:46:11):
Maybe an owner or two said, you know what, I'm
not interested in him on our team, so let's pass
get him off our draft. Where we're at draft him,
we don't want him here, maybe not all thirty two.
And then maybe somebody liked him but wasn't in the
Maybe the Texans sink schud Or Sanders is a good player, see,
but they have a quarterback so they don't need him.
So all that, and so it's probably somewhere in between.
Some were probably turned off. Some liked him but weren't
(01:46:34):
in position to draft quarterbacks. They didn't want to do
it early because they didn't need one early. Maybe in
the seventh round. Somebody got him. Somebody got him in
the fifth round.
Speaker 4 (01:46:41):
And he's a good kid. He seemed like he's relatively enthusiastic.
It was a bummer for him watching him fall like that,
but he was probably some of itself inflicted. Decorate in
his room before the draft, all those things. It still
doesn't make him a horrible kid that we got a
root against. It just makes him go about it a
little different, and some people can't handle it. Some people
are going to look beyond it. But the fact that
(01:47:03):
Dion is a great player and cares about his kids.
Would you rather have a present dad or a dad
that was never around? You tell me all of us,
I think answer, sure so.
Speaker 8 (01:47:14):
But Deon's the perception of his helicopter part is because
he's a powerful voice and he's coaching, and when he
says my kid's a top five, top five player, well
he didn't want to go and say, well, my kid's
a fifth rounder.
Speaker 4 (01:47:25):
Who'd say that about their kid? He and Deon's brash,
But it still doesn't make you a bad guy. You
just got to decide whether if you're a team, do
we want to deal with all the side show, and
it'll be a side show. He'll get more attention than
the starting quarterback will to start out. He just will.
Speaker 8 (01:47:41):
But that still doesn't make it a bad guy. And
he's got some humble pie. But I can tell you
this about the Sanders family. He may have been a
fifth round draft and got some humble pie d his kid.
When he's in the building right now, knowing Deon's confidence,
he still thinks he's the best quarterback on that team.
Speaker 4 (01:47:56):
And what's wrong with that?
Speaker 8 (01:47:57):
Why shouldn't he I wouldn't have drafted him in the
first round, but I do. I think man fifth round
seemed off of late. But you know how that goes.
When the fall starts, people start to look around and say,
what do we miss? Yeah, So if he was bad
in a few interviews, if he's not, I just simply
say the tape told me he wasn't a top five pick.
Speaker 4 (01:48:14):
But I still root for a success well. And and
the thing is too that you know some of the
stuff you're talking about with the thirty two owners, it
was coming from people who should know better. Because these
are people I'm talking about, the owners who have massive egos.
They are extremely jealous and probably for their some of
their counterparts, they hate them.
Speaker 8 (01:48:34):
And I would imagine there's some coaches that were a
little intimidated by the presence that he could even if
he's not in the building, Deon's got to coach his
own team in the fall.
Speaker 4 (01:48:43):
That's exactly right. So yeah, that's uh, A lot of
that has been dispelled, and I think that the rational
voices have started to dispel you about that.
Speaker 8 (01:48:52):
Dion loves and supports his kids. No, not at all then,
and you know what, what the rest of it, you
just carry itself. That's exactly right. If he's good player,
he'll be fine. If he's not, he'll be a journeyman
and go somewhere else. That's the way it works.
Speaker 4 (01:49:05):
These things have a way of working themselves out, Sean.
I've been told that a few times in life. Mike John,
see you guys right there, we'll get you in the fold. Also,
do you want to get to that college football topic
here sometime before we bring on Dana Brown at nine thirty,
and also to the familiar face for the Astros. All
of that's still in play right here, Sean Salisbury show.
Speaker 8 (01:49:24):
Sort of pro painters, sort of with the c surtpro

of pro business is individually owned and operated. You want
to dress up your home, give it a new fresh
look for the spring, they can help you pick out
the paint local and they're timely, and they'll treat your
home the way it's supposed to be, like it's their own.
When it comes to making it look good. Don't just
stop at the home, what about the business as well.
(01:49:45):
Interior X here you've got a group that's going to
do it right and a company that cares. As a
guy who is a customer of sort of pro, I'm
so glad I chose them over my diy because it
looks great and if there.
Speaker 4 (01:49:57):
Was anything wrong they had to come back and fix it.
Speaker 8 (01:49:58):
They didn't have to. That's how efficient they were. It's
sort of with the sea sort of pro painters. Listen,
it's expensive to own a home and a business. Why
not make it look better. It's a pretty simple concept, right,
and they can help and twenty five hundred dollars or
more spent on a paint job at your home. Twenty
five hundred dollars that you spend that or more you
(01:50:19):
get ten percent discount between now and May fifteen. Spend
twenty five one hundred and more on your home the

now and May fifteenth. Don't miss out on that great sale.
It is Curt of Pro Painters, sort of with the Sea.
Curt of Pro Painters. That's painting Happy.
Speaker 2 (01:50:35):
We're valid for the Sean Salisbury Show continued.
Speaker 4 (01:50:39):
You're gonna get I don't know if it's gonna be
both atoms that are part of Matt Thomas. I'll take
it from here the A team. But anyway, you're gonna
get one of the atoms I believe for Rockets launch
pad leading you up to Game five of the Rockets
and Warriors tonight. So hopefully we are talking to a
Game six and maybe even beyond. Here on the show,
(01:51:00):
someone seven ninety the number two jump aboard Mike and
Richmond wants to hop in Mike, what's going on?
Speaker 9 (01:51:08):
It's so good?
Speaker 4 (01:51:09):
How are you good, buddy? How are you all right?
Speaker 7 (01:51:12):
Right?
Speaker 17 (01:51:12):
Just as far as the Rockets go, I mean, widow loose,
it's been a successful season. I'll still not counting them out. Uh,
I think I think we can be the Warriors. I mean,
let's face it, if we made our free throws.
Speaker 4 (01:51:25):
We win.
Speaker 17 (01:51:26):
You know, we win that last game, you know. So
that's my point about that. Uh and uh, I just
want to you guys. Guys didn't make the point before
when I did call, But my point was about the
free throws, but you guys did bring that up.
Speaker 4 (01:51:38):
So that's what I was calling about.
Speaker 17 (01:51:40):
It's a matter of free throw. It's just about winning
to lose these games. So I give credit to the Rockets. Uh,
it is a successful season, widow loose. It's just an
experience and take it from Hereton, keep going up.
Speaker 4 (01:51:53):
Yeah, I'll hang up with listen. Yeah, I appreciate the call, Mike.
I mean, you know, the looking back on the season
everything like that. I mean, that's kind of for the postseason, offseason,
you know, in terms of how to look at how
this season broke down or just across the board. But
I mean, you're not wrong. I mean, the Rockets are
probably in a position that nobody envisioned happening at this point.
(01:52:17):
But this is a team that also to another point,
you brought up Mike shooting at sixty two point three
percent from the free throw line. In this series, they're
fifty eight of ninety three from the free throw line
real quick?
Speaker 8 (01:52:29):
Wouldn't you like a study done? And it's out there?
And I know we say this is like, well what
do you like it? So, oh, it's there somewhere if
you want to search for it. How many times in
a series has a team do you think, one a
long series like let's say four in four or more,
not not swept in a three old school one two?
(01:52:52):
Just in a series that you that you won shooting
low sixties in a long series? How many times you think?
I mean it's the free throw line. Maybe I'll have
to ask Rock. Yeah, I'm just curious, and maybe it's
happened a lot because you get, you know, four stars
on your team and you could shoot bad from the
free throw line.
Speaker 1 (01:53:07):
You know.
Speaker 8 (01:53:07):
I'm sure shacks teams had their time when they didn't
shoot well. But I'm just curious what a team in
a long series, when it gets four games or more
that shot sixty between sixty and its like sixty five
percent from the free throw line won the series. Maybe
it's regular, but it feels to me like you got
to do a lot of other things really good if
(01:53:30):
not great to beat a good team in a long
series and still shoot that low from the free throw
line a percentage?
Speaker 4 (01:53:36):
Yep, here it is. The question is going to go
into rock and I will let you know what the
response is. Just it's been on my mind thinking are
we making too big a deal of low sixties? Big
enough deal? Yeah? I think you might be right. That's
what I was thinking. Man, am I too focused on
free throws? And then I said, well three points here
to you know? Then I started to breaking. I said,
(01:53:58):
maybe I'm not even beating it up enough. We were
said at the other night, I wasn't even asking for
half of those to be made. I was asking for
four more to be made. You lost by three, you
make four more free throws in that game, you win
that game, and that makes you, let's say four more.
You're twenty three to thirty one.
Speaker 8 (01:54:13):
Still you can be better, but that gives you better, right, Yeah,
So I may maybe, like I said, I maybe the
statistics will beart you and I are wrong. But I'll
guarantee if they say they've won a bunch of series
shooting sixty percent in the four games or more series
that goes on, I'll bet you that the outlier was
you had three Jordan and Pippin on your team, or
(01:54:34):
you had Shaq and Kobe, and but Shaq and Kobe's
team with Kobe ain't making nineteen, Kobe's making She's shooting eighty,
Larry Bird, those guys are making free throws. So as
an overall team, though, I can't imagine in a long series.
The longer it goes, that's sixty percent. In a normal night,
you may steal one. I don't see you winning four
games at a seven game series when you're shooting sixty percent.
Speaker 4 (01:54:57):
I just don't. I'd say you got it. I might
be wrong. Seventies yeah, the least I would agree.
Speaker 8 (01:55:01):
I may be wrong, But I almost feel like we
are still underplaying it as adamant as we've been that
you've got to shoot free throws, and of course your
star's got to play, you got to defend, but just
free throws alone, I would say it's the chances are
you're not winning a long series shooting sixty percent.
Speaker 4 (01:55:17):
No, probably definitely not. And we'll wait and see what
Grock tells us from the history books of what has
been seen in NBA playoff history, And I would probably
guess it's not going to be very many that went
their direction, John and another John. So you guys went
away in so we'll get you guys involved in the conversation.
(01:55:39):
Also to we've in back some astros and college football
here before Dana Brown joins us in forty five minutes
here on the On Salisbury Show.
Speaker 13 (01:55:50):
Wear a mask, wear gloves, wear leather and chains. What
reminds me of that time I accidentally walked into an
S and M convention.
Speaker 4 (01:56:01):
My back still hurts?
Speaker 12 (01:56:03):
Would be good?
Speaker 4 (01:56:04):
Oh, speaking of back pain.
Speaker 13 (01:56:06):
Back to former QB Sean Safsbury on Sports Talk seven
ninety get medieval on them, shun.
Speaker 4 (01:56:15):
You like, have you let it fly before? I feel
like it's like fight club you can't talk about it
really makes you neither confirm nor deny. Has the potential
to make some people feel uncomfortable, but I do. I
think every now and then, you really got to let
your freak flag flag fly. Say this fast? You can
three times? See how that comes out. Oh, your freak
flag fly fly? Now it's five times fast. Well, then
(01:56:38):
then we're getting trouble. Possibly, Yeah, we don't want that.
You don't want to miss an l in there. You
know what I'm saying. No, no, just you know, you
make sure you stay on the sunny side of the
street right there. That's that's what you want to do.
But uh, John and John get to you guys. My
second astros looking for the sweep this afternoon against the Tigers.
AJ blue Ball making his major league debut, and the
(01:57:00):
Rockets trying to stave off elimination. Tonight, game five of
their Western Conference playoff series against the Warriors. They're down
three to one, and uh yeah.
Speaker 8 (01:57:10):
Every time you say a J. Blue and did I,
I just I love it, but I can't help it.
You know, there's every now and then there comes along
a name that every time you say his name, I'm
I'm so childish.
Speaker 4 (01:57:26):
You think you think he's got the nickname and we
don't have to spell it out for him.
Speaker 8 (01:57:30):
There is no doubt the first time he walked into
the clubhouse that they're like, that's Amy. It's just a fact, okay,
And I'm sure he's embraced it. Come on, man, that's it.
Speaker 4 (01:57:41):
Everywhere you go it's like, oh, that's okay, that's one
of those If you're broadcasting that game today, Blue Baw
Strike Blue Baw just like we just said freak flag fly. Yeah,
it's just and like I said, it's nothing, it's so
it's affection being actually, but it's classic because every time
(01:58:02):
you say it, I'm such a twelve year old.
Speaker 8 (01:58:04):
I'm like in immature about it. I'm like, please just
say the just pronounce his name wrong so we can
get a good laugh. I'm sure that he has heard
that you like Salisbury steak. You think I've heard that
my home all the time, but Hamburger steak over there.
I wonder what Berman would say if he was doing
his thing, Let's get out of your whoop, let's get
(01:58:26):
out to on around today.
Speaker 4 (01:58:28):
It's a special edition of Vastros Baseball blue Baugh. You'd say, hey,
before the game, he got rid of his blue ball
and through a no no. I can picture Bruce Berman
with a nickname. I feel like Pete Berman. It was
almost like riding a roller coaster because you know he'd
be building me up to it, then the immediate down
(01:58:49):
and then write the bottom like you know, it's not
like he would always like get to a point like
where it's like an aj blue ball in the sixth inning.
Speaker 8 (01:58:55):
Oh yeah, oh yeah, yeah, he was. He was when
the camera went on. Then he was a hole that
cat hit it man. He would Bourbon was awesome man,
but especially this name would fit perfect for him to
do something right.
Speaker 4 (01:59:07):
Even when the camera was on. But it wasn't going
out to everybody. I mean, damn it, It's like nobody's
ever worked in television before. I can't believe what I
just saw. Can you not wait for ten minutes?
Speaker 8 (01:59:20):
Nobody can come in more frazzled with his tie crooked
and everything else. And the producer Saint shown is he
in a seat yet for a live show? We're counting
down before fifteen fourteen? He ain't here yet, I said,
but he'll be here, yeah, because he's frantically get typing
it up and for the tell, you know. And then
he walks in throws that dog on Mike on a
Justice tie. It's hill and you're like he was sitting
(01:59:43):
there for an hour, right, But yeah, he would have
had a field day with that. But I just every
time you say it.
Speaker 4 (01:59:48):
Dude, I smirk like a twelve year old think and
I love this guy's tage. I never really thought about
it until today, but now I'm probably rude. I'm not
far more listening to today. I'm saying, I think about
it every time somebody says it. It's classic, and I
love it, and I hope he kicks ass tonight.
Speaker 9 (02:00:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:00:06):
Absolutely, it'd be nice to see another guy that you say, Hey,
we got somebody else, So let's squeeze in John and
Neadville here before the nine o'clock the hoard, John, what's up?
Speaker 10 (02:00:15):
And y'all stole my thunder Man because I was about
to have some fun. I can't believe this guy's name
is blue Ball Jesus Man. I changed my name. I
go to the courthouse. Dude, ain't no way it's happening. Hey,
you know, goos Get had some good points, very good points.
(02:00:35):
But here again, as we all know, they brought this
all on their selves, with all of it, you know,
with his ego, and we're not going to go to
he trying to play an arch manny, which I never.
Speaker 4 (02:00:50):
Agreed with that neither.
Speaker 10 (02:00:51):
You get drafted by a team you don't want to play,
Walmart hiring, Jiffy Loubs hiring go get a job somewhere.
Then if you don't want to play, it's.
Speaker 4 (02:01:00):
Hard to dictate where you want to play when you're
a fifth round draft pick exactly, you know.
Speaker 10 (02:01:05):
I mean, look, man, there's a lot of people out
there that they don't know this guy is gonna make
the team, even make the team, They.
Speaker 4 (02:01:13):
Really don't, you know.
Speaker 10 (02:01:14):
So, uh, good luck to him, like we're all saying.
But anyway, Sean, here's a good question for you.
Speaker 12 (02:01:24):
Why not.
Speaker 4 (02:01:26):
Pittsburgh take a look?
Speaker 10 (02:01:29):
And I know it's just huge contract, but dude, why
not take a look at Cousins.
Speaker 8 (02:01:38):
I'm not out of the realm yet. The problem is you,
I mean, you mean, just inquire about trading for him.
Speaker 10 (02:01:45):
Something, man, I mean, I know, I know, you know,
we've talked about it and being being Zach and a
couple of other fellas. You know, maybe Atlanta's holding on
to him, man, I mean, hey, he's an expensive backup,
but maybe they're not sold.
Speaker 4 (02:02:00):
On the gentleman Michael Pennick Pennix Pennix.
Speaker 10 (02:02:04):
Because uh, with with the god awful knee surgeries that
he's had and the shoulder and stuff.
Speaker 4 (02:02:12):
You know, maybe they're like, hey, maybe we need.
Speaker 9 (02:02:15):
To hang on.
Speaker 4 (02:02:16):
He's a nice security blanket for a lot of money. Doubt. Yeah,
it's a lot of money.
Speaker 10 (02:02:21):
But I mean I wonder why Pittsburgh doesn't take kick
the tires on this deal because it's it's like RC
has been saying, you know on that four Letter channel
that man Rogers is holding Pittsburgh by the cajones.
Speaker 8 (02:02:37):
Well I would, I would I get to the point
where I wouldn't let him, because then I start to
question if he loves football again, if he really is
in I'm with I listen, I'd inquire about it. The
question is do you want to give up assets for it?
Are you still under the feeling that Rogers is eventually
going to realize that there's not many teams left for
him to go to and that he has to go
(02:02:57):
to Pittsburgh and what kind of will be? But John,
it's a great point, brother, Thank you. I uh, I'm
still I'm actually surprised Cousins is still in the Atlanta Falcon.
But while Penix I think is going to be a
really good player. It is nice to know because we
haven't seen enough body works say Okay, Penix is that guy. Yeah,
they think he is, and I think it's awesome and Cousins.
(02:03:19):
Cousins has put up a lot of good seasons in
the league, and he is a good guy to have
around uh for the right offer. I think that Atlanta
would let it happen. But what are you going to
give up for him? Well, Pennick, you're not giving up
a first or second round pick for Cousins at this stage,
you're giving up a mid round pick and taking on
a salary.
Speaker 4 (02:03:34):
Pennix is there because Terry font knows that I'm not
getting fired because of that guy. That was Arthur Blank's guy.
Arthur Blank won the star power, he wanted, the huge
money contract and the quarterback, all of that. He likes that. Look, yeah, no,
he's one hundred percent about that. Look trust me. I
was around him for ten years. I know. And Terry
Font no drafted Pennix of saying, look that guy that
(02:03:57):
you gave all that money to, he can't play anymore.
This guy I think he can. I'll ride with the guy,
I think, because it might save my chow. And they
are going to give Pennis every chance to be a star,
as they should. And they've got some offensive weapon and
he played well last night. Or maybe they just haven't
got the offer for Cousins they want and they're willing
to take on the salary. But I think they I
think they would accept calls just to see if there's
something that was worthy of trading him. Texas fans. Can
(02:04:20):
I tell you something. I understand that you've had some
dysfunction in the building in the past. Just be glad
you're not the Atlanta Falcons. And there is plenty on
that menu to tell you exactly what backs me up
on that. All right, nine o'clock hour is here, John Conroe, James,
see you guys right there. Get back into the Astros
conversations of college football. Dana Brown nine thirty Gonna join

Speaker 3 (02:05:31):
To USC Troupes, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 2 (02:05:34):
Dan Matthew, excuse, this is the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 4 (02:05:43):
Over at Toyota Center. You can hear it here on
Sports Talk at seven ninety. We do have a response
from Grock, Grock, Gronk, Grock, g r Ok and uh
it actually responded to you, which was funny. Hey at
Shawn unfiltered. It's tough to pin down exactly how many
NBA teams I've won a playoff series shooting sixty to
(02:06:04):
sixty five percent from the free throw line. Due to
limited serious specific data, it's likely rare, as the league
averages around seventy five to eighty percent. The two thousand
and four Detroit Pistons, for example, with Ben Wallace's poor
free throw shooting, might be an example winning things to
elite defense. So there is a little bits that, but
(02:06:28):
it's the outlier. It ain't the norm. The norm is
you get beat. It's telling us to check Basketball Reference
for deeper stats. You go, thicky.
Speaker 8 (02:06:36):
Grock's that's all the deep I needed to know. You
mentioned Ben Wallace at the free throw line right off
the bat. You say, great rebounder, great defender, couldn't choose
way out of wet paperbag from the damn freak the line,
but they defended you really and the physicality that they
brought to the table was was different. Yeah, I'm talking
about even he when he wasn't even dealing with the
Bill Lambert teams. That there was a culture in Detroit
(02:06:59):
how they went about their business and being physical. And
Ben Wallace was a hell of a player. So the
bottom line is, don't shoot sixty percent from the free
throw line. You got a much better chance to win.
Speaker 4 (02:07:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (02:07:08):
I get it up around seventy five, somewhere in that
range as a team. I know that's that that seems illogical,
but it's just a fact. So shoot sixty per thirty
plus free throws a night, and shoot sixty percent even
at home tough times, man, no.
Speaker 4 (02:07:22):
Doubt about it. We'll continue it on the phone lines
against seven one three two one two five seven ninety.
John on the northwest side wants to win. John, what's
going on? Hey guys, good morning. Yeah.
Speaker 14 (02:07:31):
I can't relate to this low free throw percentage. I
mean when I was in high school, I shot like
ninety eight percent. I mean I just didn't miss free throws.
And I just don't get I don't get it. I
think the Rockets, you know, and you watch them, they
just don't have that guy that's emerged as you know,
the go to guy. I mean, we had a team,
we had our championship teams and and you know, there's
(02:07:53):
always been that person that's to go to the team.
It just seems like that hasn't have Jalen Green hasn't
come forward, and we just don't have that guy that
go to guyde seems like, and it's a team that's
still searching for that I feel, and you hope that
it happens during this series, but I don't know. I mean,
I I just haven't liked what I've seen. The other
(02:08:16):
thing I wanted to comment was the Astros. I really
I really like their trajectory that they're on. I think
it's great. They're only a game out, and uh, this
streak is like really really nice. They're they're getting it.
They're getting it together quicker than I Quicker than I
thought they would. And and uh, I tell you what,
I'm really hyped up about this team. I'm excited about them,
and uh, I think there's good things. You know, we're
(02:08:39):
just a game out of first and we're going in
the right direction. So uh, I love it. So anyways,
I just want to chime in on those two things.
Speaker 4 (02:08:46):
I appreciate the call, John, I mean, you know, with
the Rockets first, that's why the Dylan Brooks line that
he had earlier in the season, or I forget who
said it. Sometimes it's you, sometimes it's me, but it's
always us. I mean, you know, it's it's nice to
put on T shirts, it's nice to put up on
the wall in the facility, all of that. But John's
not wrong. I mean, you know, you've got two guys
(02:09:09):
on this team that are supposed to be those guys
Jalen Green and Alprin Shingoon, and even if they're not
on on I still can't have them being completely off.
And that's been the problem, at least for one of
those guys, because at least Shingoon, he might not give
you what did he give you the other night, thirty one,
twenty nine whatever, might think it was thirty plus. I mean,
he took over in the second half, and you're like,
(02:09:29):
that's what we need. We need that guy. You know,
the seventeens and fourteen's they're nice, but then you need
fifteen from one guy. You need sixteen from the other
you need, you know, twenty one from somebody else. And
that's been the problem. That's been, that's that's been what's done.
Speaker 8 (02:09:45):
The rockets mixed in with with free throws. And you cause,
like I said, I don't really have a bitch or
complain about the defense the way they're playing. That's carried
and that's been fine, that's exactly, and it's it's become
part of their their DNA.
Speaker 4 (02:09:58):
He really has.
Speaker 8 (02:09:58):
And Udoka's a big part of the reason why because
he's just not going to tolerate it. But it's I
would imagine as a coach, you feel a little bit
hopeless or helpless, should I say, when your team stay
on the free throw line? And I'm sure they work
at it. I can't imagine they don't because they talk
about an elephant in the room in a playoff series,
But how helpful?
Speaker 4 (02:10:18):
You know, what can you do? You can't dial up
the play.
Speaker 8 (02:10:21):
You're standing at the free throw line and you are
on the hope mode, and the hope mode leads to
the how can I help mode? And whether it's a
motivational speech, it's like taking the kicker aside, you know,
like sarked in the game like tak um side your
time out and giving him the motivation speech. Maybe that's
not the time, but sometimes it works and it is
the time. But there are no motivational speech. You're on
here just you know, what do you say? Relax, bend
(02:10:43):
yourd ees like the old school, aim for the back
of the room, knock it down or dude, you're in
your backyard going to whatever it is. But the truth is,
as a coach, you've prepared him. I don't have the
ball in my hand.
Speaker 4 (02:10:56):
Man, There's nothing I can do once you're standing at
that fifteen foot free throw Lin. It's like I said yesterday, Sparky,
leave the booth after the game today, head on over
to Toyota Center. Guys, this is Astro's broadcaster, former Major
league pitcher Steve Sparks. Let's uh, let's give it up
for Sparky. Hey. I used to always think to myself,
you know, hit the glove, hit the glove, you know,
(02:11:17):
just for you hit the bottom of the nuts, yeah,
and knock it down. Yeah.
Speaker 8 (02:11:21):
And it would be a bummer to come out of
this series saying here's why. And if it was because
of that, I can handle. Just somebody better than you.
That's an unforced air in tennis is exactly what it is.
That is self inflicted unforced air. And when you're shooting
thirty of them, that's a lot of opportunities to gain
ground on a team. And nineteen's just not enough. That's
(02:11:44):
going to have to change, unless, of course, Shngon Green
and whoever else plays where three guys have eighty five
of your points right now, now you're talking about Steph Curry,
Clay Thompson, Draymond Green or Steph Curry Draymond Green. Now
Clay's not there, and and Jimmy Butler. That that's what
you're talking about. Those type of games. But those are
(02:12:06):
hard to come by as well. You're gonna and you
you you don't.
Speaker 4 (02:12:10):
You take a lot of pressure off the rest of
the team by just knocking down nobody's asking for ninety
four percent or John's ninety eight percent when he was
playing high school basketball. Yeah, John shooter, Yeah, I guess
so ninety eight percent, real shooter. You're gonna lead the league,
right yeah, or lead the high school you'renna lead the
country and free throw percentage high school shoot nine eye.
They call him Johnny free throw.
Speaker 12 (02:12:27):
There you go.
Speaker 8 (02:12:28):
That's what I call Johnny Freethrow. But seventy five percent
and you win Game four. Think about that. Seventy five
percent for those guys unforre Stairs will get you killed.
And that's exactly what you gotta guard against. And you
can't turn the ball over on on your end of
the court.
Speaker 4 (02:12:46):
Now you cannot. And by the way, crock did continue
with recent data shows one team at sixty three point
two in the twenty twenty four to twenty five postseason
one team and we know that one team is Yep.
That number is gonna have to go up the rest
of the series for sure, real quick. Conrad James here
(02:13:06):
on to Sean Salisbury show What's up?
Speaker 11 (02:13:10):
Hey, good morning from htown Rocket Extrodation. Okay, so sand Dune,
I watched them all game long, and this is a
shot going around the NBA. They're putting up this wounded
duck where they just kind of toss it up and
the ball doesn't have any English and unless you get
(02:13:31):
it right in the basket, it's a brick and it's
gonna bounce out.
Speaker 9 (02:13:35):
I hate that shot. I like to see it.
Speaker 11 (02:13:37):
Look now moving forward, Okay, shan Gun is missing this
shot all night long, and the last seconds of the game,
a DEMI goes to shangoon underneath the basket. Why aren't
we kicking it out to one of our three point
shooters and shoot a dagger in their heart?
Speaker 12 (02:13:58):
Okay?
Speaker 11 (02:13:59):
Now, final question of a final comment is there is
some white kid.
Speaker 4 (02:14:05):
I mean that politely.
Speaker 9 (02:14:07):
It's when we played our bench players and they damn
there beat.
Speaker 11 (02:14:13):
Beat Golden State. Why aren't we playing him? I know
he broke his thumb, but but I haven't seen him
in a while. And final comment, why aren't we getting
Calvin Murphy.
Speaker 1 (02:14:29):
To do some.
Speaker 11 (02:14:30):
Consultation on the street throws? And I'll listen. I'll hang
up and listen.
Speaker 4 (02:14:36):
Yeah, I appreciate the call. Read Shepherd. I think is
the guy he's talking about. He is, and that's and listening.
Speaker 8 (02:14:41):
Calvin Murphy is one of the great free throw shooters
in NBA history. When he missed, it was you did
the other team throw a party? But we say it
all the time. Well, why isn't somebody working on their
low post moves with Elijahuan? Why didn't somebody in the
in the annals of time work on a skyhook with
Abdulla Jabbar?
Speaker 4 (02:15:00):
But he's right.
Speaker 8 (02:15:01):
But still the one thing Calvin Murphy can't teach is
the stuff that you have to have the DNA to
handle the pressure of shooting the free throw. I would
imagine some of these guys when sheng gun shooting free throws.
Speaker 4 (02:15:12):
On his own.
Speaker 8 (02:15:12):
I'll bet she's knocking him down. I'm not saying he
did he choke. He's a good player, chance would be
a great player. But the practice all you want, but
there's got to be any of us have done it.
We've all shot free throws. There's an attention to detail
or focus. I don't know mechanics, but a lot of
it's just, you know, to be able to repeat the saint.
It's like a golf swing repeated all the time. You say, man,
(02:15:34):
I hit eight in a row when I was on
the practice practice range. How many times you striping it
on the practice range? You go the first t box
snap hook, why and the guy three guys are watching.
That's exactly right. So there's a big similarity mechanics. Your
club face can be officed. I'm talking about a smidge
on the from the face and it's somewhere you don't
want to go. Same thing there. You don't hit the finish,
(02:15:54):
you don't extend. There's not proper elevation on the free
throw proper English, so if it misses, it hangs up
there and gives you checking chance to go in all
those things.
Speaker 4 (02:16:02):
It's like a range.
Speaker 8 (02:16:04):
The range to the pressure different the free throw line
on the practice court. The one thing I can't simulate
is that actual pressure, and neither can Calvin Murphy. He
handled it, well, they're going to have to handle it better. Well,
it's just I mean, I can teach you the technique
you got to do it.
Speaker 4 (02:16:19):
That's exactly right.
Speaker 8 (02:16:20):
That's why you can get mad at the guys all
the time. But the bat in their hand, after all,
if you're getting taught properly, now, can you hit ninety
eight up and they come back and lay off the
ball outside the strike zone away or hit it the
other way like Diaz did for the home run the
other day. That is the difference under the duress. Listen,
there's a different pressure that goes with it, and a
(02:16:42):
lot of times mechanics fall by the wayside. Unfortunately, it's
the guy who mechanics improve and attention to detail improves
under pressure as opposed to does something different, that's out
of character. That's quite frankly, shooting a free throw simple?
Can you handle pressure and mechanics all way through? Because
nobody's contesting your shot. Well, I mean it's you know,
(02:17:05):
they're fully capable of doing it. It's just a question
of you know, well, that's in this series. We got
to find out if they should be that should be
that's the that's the better answer. Good point by you.
Speaker 4 (02:17:15):
Yeah, all right, Like I said, Dana Brown gonna join
us here in about fifteen minutes and we'll get into
some of the stuff of a familiar face coming back here.
But coming up next. You want to win in college football,
well it'll cost you, and we found out locally. We'll
talk about it here Sean Salisbury Show. Hey, guys, let's
also talk men's tea clinic. Fellas.
Speaker 8 (02:17:35):
I know for a fact that a lot of you
have made the change and gone to men's tea clinic,
and then there's some of you that are just still
feeling sluggish. You're you're not optimism optimizing your wellness, which
is the phrase that I'm focused on in twenty twenty five,
not only in my life, but for you and for
men's T five convenient locations ten plus years, so they
understand the battle of time and getting you, guys to
(02:17:56):
understand exactly what it can do. When we say low testosterone,
first thing comes to your mind as man sex life
probably sucks.
Speaker 4 (02:18:04):
Well.
Speaker 8 (02:18:04):
If that's the case, fine, But it's also more to
it full body wellness, wellness optimization, optimization. I mean, let's
get the most out of maximize it. And the way
you can do that is go draw a little blood,
non invasive. By the end of the day you're going
to have the results, and then the whole key is, Okay,
we found the conflict. What's the answer to the test?
(02:18:25):
The answer to the test is normalizing your testosterone so
you can maximize your ability. So if you were in
twenty twenty four and stuck, don't let it be the
way in twenty twenty five. The great thing about it
it's never too late to get started. But I don't
know why you're waiting.
Speaker 4 (02:18:38):
It's wellness optimization, it's men's tea clinic, it's getting out
of lower gear and quicksand and maximizing your sexual wellness,
your full body wellness. And it's pretty simple with a
great team and five convenient locations, right here in Houston.
Men's Tclinic dot Com is where you go if you're
in lower gear. That's a you deal.
Speaker 8 (02:18:58):
I got a way to help you get out of it,
Men's Tea Clinic, and they're doing it every day and
changing lives. Men's TA Clinic dot Com, Men's T Clinic
dot Com.
Speaker 16 (02:19:07):
Oh have we waited for Blum?
Speaker 4 (02:19:10):
Hey, it's Jeff Blum. You've got more. Sean Salisbury to
pick cup for your left doog dog on Sports Talk
seven to ninety Home of Yours stros we know in
the age of name, image and likeness and the money
that's floating around in college football. I think it was
a couple of years ago that Ryan Day, the head
(02:19:30):
coach at Ohio State, had mentioned either at a coach's
clinic or a call that got out or something of saying,
if you need to be a championship football team, thirteen
million dollars a year is what you have to have.
And we just found that out with Ohio State last
year with all the money they spent on transfers, and
clearly it worked out because they won a national championship.
(02:19:50):
So Kurt Bowles, who covers the Texas Longhorns, now with
the Houston Chronicle. He threw out that the roster for
Texas currently sits quote between thirty five and forty million,
and that is likely counting the revenue sharing allotment that
is expected to be twenty point five million dollars through
(02:20:12):
the Texas One Fund, but Texas adding ten players out
of the transfer portal and might have a couple of
more on the way. So you want to try to
compete for a national championship thirty to forty million? Did
Ryan Day lie?
Speaker 16 (02:20:27):
No?
Speaker 4 (02:20:28):
He didn't do. The rules allow you to do it.
There are no rules. So sure, so if your school
backs it. Now I don't like it.
Speaker 8 (02:20:38):
I'm going to say it louder again, so you understand
I've said it a million times.
Speaker 4 (02:20:43):
I'm standing up front. I can hear it. Right, is.
Speaker 8 (02:20:47):
This team, this system, this whole Texas menum, the school,
but all of Ohio State, all of them.
Speaker 4 (02:20:55):
He's spot on because if you're not that guy leaves,
we don't have to like. I don't like it.
Speaker 8 (02:21:02):
And the truth is you say, well, I'd handle it different.
I would like to say I would, but you know what,
Shryzchewski always hated. I've said this sport and hated one
and done, was not going to recruit him. And you
know what, he finally did recruit them one and done.
What Calipari, You either you either do that or the
guy's leaving. Don't complain about the rules. Make the rules
(02:21:23):
work for you. That's exactly right now. I'm sure I
would bet that the majority of college coaches in a
private session, if we're standing at a Clinton nobody, no phones,
no nothing over a beer. Every division one. I'm just
going to say Division one for now, FBS guy, right,
I'll bet you Calvin Murphy's free throw percentage. Hate the system,
(02:21:48):
hate it. No, they'll say it out loud, right, because
you've got to recruit them. Then you got to to
get them there, you got to pay them, then you
got to recruit them to keep them there, and then
when they're there, you got to keep recruiting them. One
you're recruiting somebody else to know that there's a really
good chance the guy you recruited and paid is gonna
leave because you're not recruiting him hard enough now to
see my point. Yeah, so you know they dislike it,
(02:22:10):
But the fact is I can hate something, but I
you know, I got to the rules allow me to
and my schools saying, and then the school gets a
point where we've got a collective, We got to a
you want to keep your job to get these recrits,
you better fall in line.
Speaker 4 (02:22:27):
See.
Speaker 8 (02:22:27):
I think Savan got to the point where he wasn't
willing to do that because his expertise was in recruiting.
Speaker 4 (02:22:34):
What it did. When save and you take the recruiting
out of it, now you've limited great recruiters. Great recruiters
with a wallet are great recruiters. Now it's not I'm
a great recruit because I walk in home. Tell you
what you're gonna do. Here's how you're gonna compete. But
if you're not coming with money, they'll go to Auburn
instead of Alabama, regardless of if you've had three of
his brothers go to school there or went to school there.
(02:22:55):
That's the way it works now. So for me, okay,
the rules say it, so you do it. Same for kid.
I'm not blaming the kid for going and getting it.
Speaker 12 (02:23:02):
Now.
Speaker 8 (02:23:02):
I don't like the fact that why you're there and
you're getting paid your millions, that you want more, you're
leaving Nico. But you know what he thought, it was
best for him go to UCLA. We'll see how it works.
We all have our opinion. But under the rules, Ryan
Day's one hundred percent correc got criticized.
Speaker 4 (02:23:16):
It's a fact that if you don't forty do we
now have we have?
Speaker 1 (02:23:22):
We have.
Speaker 4 (02:23:22):
Oh, here's what we talk about the Dodgers. This is
a forty million dollar okay, take thirty million, thirty five
million dollars roster and growing. I'm not saying it's wrong
because the rules allow it. There's no way Sark can
love this. But you're operating under what the umbrella you're
allowed to operate under. My thing is Hence why that
(02:23:43):
exact thing you read in a great article is exactly
why we must have salary cap restrictions on transfer portaland
nil because the teams that you see are always going
to be the teams that the guy who can't pay
has a zero shot. They'd say, the guy who can't pay,
that's the twenty fifth best team in a country every year,
(02:24:05):
he still has minimal shot, even if he is paying. Yeah,
but he's got a shot. But the big guys, the
team sup Texas, A and L. I can name you
the teams that are always going to be around because
they're paying. Now, I'm gonna tell you, I've told you
Arkansas is gonna jump into the fray like in basketball
in football and they are going to get better. Yeah,
and the same with SMU. They're going to get because
they got money. And if people alumni are willing to
(02:24:26):
pay and they're electing it, they're gonna get better because
of the money. But we got to we have to
have a salary cap, we have to have money placed
on you. We're gonna have to put a buyout on
these players.
Speaker 8 (02:24:38):
But the listen, Texas makes a lot of money and
spends a lot of money in big nil and they
got great people running their nil forty million dollars next year,
it won't be forty oh yeah, there's no doubt about that.
It's gonna be a lot higher than that until until
we get to the bottom.
Speaker 4 (02:24:54):
But I'm with him. I hate it.
Speaker 8 (02:24:56):
But if you're allowing me to pay it, I'm going
all Dodgers on you for nil college football because guess
what that means more money on my contract as a coach,
and it means more chance to put a ring on
her finger.
Speaker 4 (02:25:06):
Yeah, it was yesterday's price that's the way it goes.
Dana Brown joins us. Next is Wednesday, visit here Sean
Salisbury show.

Speaker 13 (02:25:49):
Just pass Hey Google play Sports Talk seven to ninety
on iHeartRadio.
Speaker 8 (02:25:54):
Dana, welcome in, my man. Good talk to you too.
Straight against Clee Cleveland against Detroit. Let me ask you
if I'd have said this to you what twenty what
twenty nine games in if I'd have said your big
hitters hitting sub to twenty. Your catcher's hitting sub two hundred,
and a new guy at first base is hitting sub
two twenty and you're sixteen and thirteen. What would you
(02:26:17):
have said to me?
Speaker 1 (02:26:19):
Yeah, I wouldn't even have projected that these guys would
have started to slow. But it's good. It's good to
see that these guys are heating up. And the main
thing is like, look, I would tell you anytime you pitch,
you're going to be in the game, and our pitch
has been doing very well.
Speaker 4 (02:26:35):
Danny, you're pitching staff.
Speaker 8 (02:26:37):
I know it's early in the season and you talk
about the marathon and the grind, but if there's health
involved and this is what you get, you're all pitching
travels like defense. I would imagine you're a bit ecstatic,
and I know you didn't get all of it out
of it, but you know what, he hung in there
last night, was able to grind after a slow start.
Bullpen came in. Hater had a few hiccups, but hasn't
(02:26:59):
had any for the most part at this season. You
got to be elated with the early start of your
pitching staff.
Speaker 1 (02:27:05):
Yeah, very very uh, you know, excited about what the
pitching's done, you know, pretty much led by Brown. Hunter
Brown's got a chance, you know, the pitcher at the
months he's thrown so well, you know, four and one
with the one too too, Ernie, he's you know, with
a bunch of strikeouts, so he's thrown.
Speaker 9 (02:27:24):
Well.
Speaker 1 (02:27:25):
Look, we've been getting good starts. Our bullpen has been
really good, and it's really good to see that. You know,
when you have pitching, you win games.
Speaker 4 (02:27:34):
Dana, is he.
Speaker 8 (02:27:36):
From last year at this time? And I know we've
discussed him, but is there one particular thing that turned
his fortune around from last year at this time to
this year at this time?
Speaker 12 (02:27:49):
Brown?
Speaker 4 (02:27:51):
I know I'm talking about Hunter Brown.
Speaker 1 (02:27:52):
Yes, yeah, so yeah, Brown, I think what happened was
when we added that two steamer last year. You know,
the guy couldn't just sit on that four seam fastball
that two seemers running in on the hands. And so
with the disen of that pitch, you know, since you know,
since last year May first, I think he's probably you know,
got the best urn run average in baseball. Uh, just
(02:28:16):
just just ahead of scooball you know, and Scooba you know,
of course Cy Young.
Speaker 12 (02:28:21):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (02:28:21):
But look, ultimately Brown has been a big anchor for us.
He's been outstanding, you know, and he's been he's been,
he's been in the grind. So it just tells you
how much how good the makeup is when you can,
you know, you had such a slow start last year,
turned it on and has not taken his foot off
the gas.
Speaker 8 (02:28:40):
Is Jeremy Pania taking on a leadership role just because
he's a i mean, more verbal or is this just
because the guy the way the guy runs and hustles
and plays defense. It feels to me like, even though
he's in the infancy of his career, it's almost like
a leadership role is just being heaped upon him in
a good way and he's taken and running with it.
(02:29:00):
Now sitting up front of the leadoff spot, I almost
feel like he's making great maturity strides as a leader
on this team.
Speaker 4 (02:29:07):
You can have more than one, but he sure is
embracing it.
Speaker 1 (02:29:10):
Dana, Yeah, I like the way Joe mixed the match
with the lineup, just to you know, get some guys
hot and it's working, you know, putting Jeremy at the
top of the order. You know, he's taken well to it.
You know, hopefully he keeps it up. You know, he is,
you know, Jeremy was, you know, a quiet leader even
you know before you know, we all know the postseason
(02:29:32):
twenty twenty two Jeremy. But you know, Jeremy will take
on some leadership roles, you know, just because you know,
being the shortstop, you're the general first of all. And
then you know, I think guys gravitate to him. They
really like him, and it's been excited. It's been exciting
to watch.
Speaker 4 (02:29:49):
And Christian Walker used to you were talking about him
hitting the ball hard. Things are starting to come around
for him. You're feeling good about even though the average
isn't where it wants to be. Ball jumped out of
the park this past week, and it feels like he's
starting to see it a little bit better.
Speaker 1 (02:30:04):
Yeah, overy's last ten games. You know, he's got a
nine eighty two ops so he's been really swinging the
bat well, with three home runs in that stretch. So
you know he's coming around. And look, he's been so
so good at first base as well, So you know,
then once that bat comes around, you know, I think
guys will see, you know, while we signed them, because
you know, this guy's got a chance to get to
(02:30:27):
that high ops with power and play elite defense at first.
So uh, you know, you don't win at go Glove,
you know, by accident. You know, you really have to
be good over there, and he's been really good.
Speaker 4 (02:30:38):
Dang.
Speaker 8 (02:30:38):
If somebody had asked you at a speech or something
you weren't on radio, and said, tell me about the
depth of your team non starters, how would you describe him?
Speaker 1 (02:30:48):
Yeah, I mean these guys could start on other clubs,
you know. I mean, I think that's what you want
from your debt, you know, just you know, looking at
a guy like you know, Tarantini, for example, Karantini can
go to most places and be an everyday catcher, you know,
catch more than one hundred games if he had to,
you know, and we we have guys on the bench,
(02:31:11):
you know, du Bonds can can play everywhere. I mean,
just a very good piece to have, you know.
Speaker 12 (02:31:19):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (02:31:20):
And that's just a valuable piece, you know, when you
can play seven different positions and be above average to
plus at each one of these, uh you know positions
in Descenzo, you know, he's a young you know, young
star with power. He's got a chance to you know,
play every day somewhere else and so, uh, you know,
these these guys that we have, you know, on the bench,
(02:31:41):
and and and look we think about it.
Speaker 11 (02:31:43):
We have.
Speaker 1 (02:31:45):
McCormick, who's who's had over an eight hundred ops with
over twenty home runs, but you know, just a couple
of years ago. So these guys really look, our bench
is really strong, and you know, we joke and mix
and match and give guys days all as you guys
will see. I think, uh, you know, Joe's done a
good job of you know, mixing this lineup up, you know,
(02:32:06):
from the slow start to starting to get guys to hit.
And so yeah, it's a it's a good bench, you know,
it's a good bench to have.
Speaker 8 (02:32:14):
Astro's GM Dana Brown for his weekly visit for a
few more minutes here Sports Talk seven nine.
Speaker 4 (02:32:19):
You mentioned McCormick. It can be tough on guys, like
you said, you mentioned the season he had two years ago,
had his struggles last year. But when you are in
a platoon but getting starts and not starting, it's tough
on guys that are competitive. How how is he handling
not being an everyday player, Dana, It looks like he's
handling it well. And it looks like this team, which
is always hard to break the lineup, you got a
(02:32:40):
bunch of guys that just kind of come to work
without bitching and complaining.
Speaker 1 (02:32:45):
Yeah, look he's you know, he's well aware that. Look
he's he's off to a slow start, but he's grinding.
You know, he's doing things like getting a new mustache.
You know, I'll tell you that and let you know that, Look,
I'm i'm, i'm, i'm I'm trying and all kind of
ways to get myself back into this. And you know,
he's been great here in this organization, played on some
(02:33:05):
really good teams. You know, he's taken to this new
role and you know, look he's not he's not giving in.
I mean, he's working his tail off. He wants to be,
you know, a starter. So I think he's gonna continue
to grind and work his way back in the lineup
if you could. But I you know, I've always said,
you know, competition is not the enemy of wins. When
(02:33:25):
you have good competition, you're gonna have a good chance
to win a lot of ball games. And I think
healthy competition is very, very good for any club in
any sport.
Speaker 4 (02:33:35):
Danny, you mentioned your pitching staff. I want to get
back that. I ask you this, I think the last
two years around this time every year, and I'm going
to ask it again. And I know things change.
Speaker 8 (02:33:43):
It's long, but considered as we sit now, injuries included,
is this a World Series pitching staff today?
Speaker 9 (02:33:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:33:54):
Look, I mean we're gonna get my colors back here soon,
you know, hopefully he comes in and that to the mix.
But when you have two pillars at the top of
your rotation, you know, and Frambourgh and Brown, you know,
you got Valdez and Brown right there at the top.
Those are two big pillars. I mean, you know, not
many clubs you know had that. You know, we lost,
(02:34:16):
you know, Arraghetti. You know, hopefully he'll be back at
some point. But you know that's another guy that's that's
really good in the rotation. This rotation is in pretty
good shape, you know, and I think we can definitely
get back to the World Series with this rotation. And
so I'm you know, with the with the way the
rotation is setting up, and you know, we got some
(02:34:37):
guys coming back, and the bullpen's been good. You know,
make no mistake. You can't fake your way into what
we're doing right now as a pitching staff, and these
guys have been really good.
Speaker 4 (02:34:48):
What do you expect from blue Ball tonight?
Speaker 1 (02:34:52):
Yeah, I expect blue Ball to take the ball, take
the ball tonight and you know, be anywhere from ninety
five to ninety eight. I expect him to. I ain't
through it. I know he's a fighter. I feel strongly
that you know, he'll give us four or five games,
maybe more, but you know, look, this will be his
opening start. We're all fired up for him, and I
(02:35:15):
think he's gonna really show what he's capable of doing.
And to let everybody know that, Look, we got a
depth starter that's making a start tonight who's gonna probably
be somewhere between ninety five and ninety eight. That's pretty
good to have as your depth.
Speaker 8 (02:35:27):
Yeah, and I'm sure he's excited about him. Back to
Lance mccullors, you mentioned hope to have him back soon.
Do we have a timeline or a close date yet,
Dana that we're looking at.
Speaker 1 (02:35:37):
Yeah, I mean, I don't think he's gonna make any
more rehab starts. You know. I think he's gonna throw
a bullpen and then we'll decide where we're gonna slide
him into, you know, the rotation. You know we got,
you know, that stretch coming up of seventeen straight games,
we're probably gonna we're probably gonna go to a six
man rotation. He'll he'll probably be one of them. So
(02:35:59):
you know, if all go well, you know, he should
be back very soon.
Speaker 8 (02:36:03):
Dana, I know we don't have to get into the
money or any of that stuff. And I know you
guys negotiating private, but just I guess it's an obligatory
question with from or you mentioned and our talk started
now or is this an off season move for you
guys With fromber.
Speaker 1 (02:36:19):
Well, talks haven't started, but you know, you know, we
at some point, I feel like, you know, you know,
we'll talk with the agent and Forember, but you know,
we we we haven't started to talk right now. Where
we're focused on you know, getting you know, multi you know,
double figure games over five hundred, you know, getting that,
(02:36:42):
you know, winning that division, getting deep back into the postseason.
But I'm sure you know, at some point, you know what,
we're gonna have some discussions.
Speaker 4 (02:36:49):
Do we think Garcia is going to pitch this year?
For you guys, Dana, Yeah, I think.
Speaker 1 (02:36:54):
Garcia will pitch. You know, I think you know he's
gonna he's already rowing, you know, seventy five to one
hundred feet, it's all flat ground. But look, I think
at some point he'll he'll get back, you know, on
this in this rotation, and you know, we're probably going
to need him because you know, one hundred and sixty
(02:37:16):
two games, you know, a lot could happen in a rotation,
but you know, we're optimistic that he'll definitely return.
Speaker 4 (02:37:22):
Come from one point.
Speaker 8 (02:37:23):
Yep, come from behind wins the last two days, Dana.
We were at this point last year and twelve and
twenty four. I mean, we hadn't played that many games yet.
But man, this has got to be with all the
changes in the different things you guys have had to
do this offseason to get this team ready and injuries,
you've got to feel pretty good about being three games
over five hundred right now.
Speaker 1 (02:37:44):
Yeah. I mean, actually this time we were ten and nineteen,
you know, we were nine under, and look, I feel
really good about where the team is. We made some
decisions this offseason that were, you know, not all easy decisions,
but we tried to construct this team to win in
the present and also win in the future. And these
guys have answered the call and they're playing well right now,
(02:38:06):
and we hope they continue to battle through it and
play well. So you know, like I said, the goal is,
let's let's get multiple double figure games over five hundred,
you know, and continue to continue to win, win ball games,
get this division, get deep back into the postseason, and.
Speaker 4 (02:38:22):
We'll finish with this.
Speaker 8 (02:38:23):
When that hitting on a regular basis matches the pitching,
it's going to be hell to pay for opposing teams,
isn't it.
Speaker 1 (02:38:30):
I told you, Once these bats come along, man, this
team will be on all cylinders. We you know, the defense.
We haven't even talked about the defense in this segment,
but the defense has been outstanding. So you take the pitching,
the defense, and once these bats come around, I'm telling
you right now we're in for a treat astro fans.
So you know, things are starting to move in the
(02:38:52):
right direction.
Speaker 4 (02:38:52):
Dana.
Speaker 8 (02:38:53):
We appreciate you, mom, man, Thank you well, look forward
to next week's conversation. Keep it rolling, get another one today, man,
sixteen and thirteen, good start.
Speaker 1 (02:39:01):
All right, take care shotting. Let's go out there, you go.
Speaker 8 (02:39:04):
That's Dana Brown fighting through it. Sounds like maybe a
little cold, huh, fighting through it.
Speaker 1 (02:39:07):
I like it.
Speaker 8 (02:39:09):
I like it and competitive and ready to go and
far better. So we were having different conversations at this
dive last year and they still haven't even busted out. Dan,
So appreciate Dana Brown. Hey, guys, Trajan Wealth Trasianwealth dot Com.
Trajanwealth dot Com is where you go three four six,
three seven one thirty three thirty Wealth Advisor five piece.
Let's prepare properly to prevent poor performance. Right, That's exactly
(02:39:32):
what it is. You have to prepare and plan. We
plan for everything retirement, when you're going to get your haircut,
where you're going on a grocery list, or you do
the same thing for retirement.
Speaker 4 (02:39:41):
I would say it's.
Speaker 8 (02:39:42):
Probably just as important, if not more, especially when you
can control what goes on. You can't control the market,
but you can't control the planning you put in to
make sure you're prepared for the ups and downs and
the risk tolerance and everything that comes with it. So
I would suggest, like a best friend, you go find
yourself the best wealth health advisor in your mind, interview them,
(02:40:03):
go through it, ask questions, have them ask questions it's
a free consultation, a free review of your portfolio. Do
you know about four oh one k rollover? What about insurance?
What about that risk tolerance? What about how much it
will take. It's not just about your expenses. It's about
being able to stay retired with somebody forcing you out
of it because well, you didn't go shoulder to shoulder
(02:40:25):
with somebody who had your best interest in mind as
a financial fiduciary. And that's exactly what they are. It
is Trajan Wealth trades.
Speaker 4 (02:40:33):
Listen.
Speaker 8 (02:40:33):
Buzzer beaters are fine on the basketball court and they
help you win. But I don't think you want to
push that envelope in retirement. I think you'd like to
be out in front and win by fifty. Let's make
that our retirement prepare properly so you can prevent poor performance.
And listen, the conflict is you don't know what's going
to happen with the market. The answer to the test
is talk to somebody who has a better idea. It's
(02:40:55):
trajanwealth dot com. Trajanwealth dot com, local and trusted financial
fiduciary right here in the Woodlands and sugar Land. It's
Trajanwealth dot Com. You've worked way too hard not to
be prepared and not to be able to call the
shots when you do retire. Trasanwealth dot com advisory services
off of through Tradian Wealth LLC and SEC Registered Investment
Advisor paid advertisement were.
Speaker 4 (02:41:17):
Out there for the Shawn Salisbury Show continues down three
to one in their Western Conference playoffs series to the
Golden State Warriors. John on the northwest side wants to
close this south this morning on the phone launch John,
what's going on?
Speaker 1 (02:41:33):
Hey guys, listen here, man, let me give you something
to think about it.
Speaker 4 (02:41:36):
If you look at that.
Speaker 12 (02:41:36):
Indiana Pace of series with Mail Walkt, very similar series
to the Rockets at Golden State. The only different is
that Halliburton and his team the moment is not too
big for them. You look at Halliburton and you look
at Jalen Green, very similar players, you know, So what's
wrong with the Rockets? The Rockets need to check to
(02:41:58):
see if they got any hounas at the door and
show up.
Speaker 1 (02:42:02):
And by the way, look at here man if I may, yes,
Sean Dan.
Speaker 12 (02:42:08):
This is a championship team providing everybody play up to
their potentials. Yes need the death is their monsters over
his skin after those haven't had a thirty something home
run hit on third base, and they haven't had a
thirty run thirty home run here on first base in
a long, long time. This team had more offense than
(02:42:29):
they've had in quite a few years. They looked like
they're pitching. The guys they picked up looked like they're pitching. Well, yes,
they can easy win the American League because their American
League gain't number squad Anyway, y'all have a good one,
right they see.
Speaker 4 (02:42:43):
John appreciate the optimism there because I mean, Dana Brown
definitely think so. And even more good news is we
knew that Lance McCullers is going to throw the bullpen
today and then it was kind of trying to determine
the next step right there. But that was the biggest
thing I took from the visit this week is Dana
Brown saying we don't think he's Corpus Christie or Sugarland bound.
(02:43:04):
We think the next time you're seeing him it's on
an astros mound. Yeah, no more.
Speaker 8 (02:43:07):
That means it's close, in my opinion, no more of those,
no more minor league starts.
Speaker 4 (02:43:11):
It's a good thing. Continued. Yeah, Well, I mean I
think we're already here, tripoly. But that's okay.
Speaker 8 (02:43:16):
Yeah, that's right. So yeah, that is good news. And
I do like and when I ask, I do we
just you know, kind of get a barometer of how
he feels. The optics tell us the pitching staff's pretty
damn good. Yeap World Series pitching staffs different. He feels
that way, and that's considering with these injuries. And he's right,
because you've got two horses.
Speaker 4 (02:43:34):
At the top.
Speaker 8 (02:43:35):
It's a pretty good thing. And interesting that they still
haven't the Fromerd. They still haven't talked, so that's an
off season or eventually talked to the agent. It's going
to be interesting because how they approach that. But Dane
has always been transparent on this show, which is a
good thing.
Speaker 4 (02:43:46):
I can only go with the results, and the results
in twenty nine games so far has been, Hey, these
guys throw strikes, they get outs. That's exactly right. You
continue that for twenty nine more than twenty nine more
after that and on down the line, and the bullpen's
been pretty damn good. Dude, Absolutely, And then if you
just I've said it too. I mean, with this pitching staff,
this team hits, you win ball games. Absolutely, they've shown
it the last couple of nights. Better late than never
(02:44:08):
in a case, last night, Rockets, take care of your
business in the house. You want to go back to
Golden State, We're not having that. Morning after show tomorrow,
Paul Creed talked, Adrian talked. We're good. Let's do it
good YEP, Rockets will be down three to two. We'll
talk to you tomorrow as he's Shawn Chipole, Emmanuel Elmore,
Dan Matthews, Matt Thomas Show with Ross coming up next.
Talk to you in twenty hours right here Sports Talk
