Speaker 1 (00:02):
Salisbury.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Hot, Okay, let's do this.

Speaker 3 (00:08):
Sewan Salisbury, Salisbury to usc true's longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.

Speaker 4 (00:14):
Dan matthewscuse, this is the Sean Salisbury show.

Speaker 5 (00:23):
No.

Speaker 6 (00:24):
One how two d lines and he to left field.
That's sent back Sotours still going back on the warning track,
and that ball is gone.

Speaker 1 (00:31):
Into the Marlin's bullpen.

Speaker 6 (00:32):
A two run shot for jose Al Tuvey, his nineteenth
home run of the year, and the Astros have a
two to nothing lead.

Speaker 7 (00:39):
First Pisto Payne, he punches it the other way. Hernandez
going back, racing on the warning track and it's off
of the wall.

Speaker 1 (00:46):
Dude, Bond's gonna score.

Speaker 7 (00:47):
Here comes to rays Hill score Payne, you're racing for
third base at a triple. A two run triple for Paynya,
his second triple of the season, in the Astros lead
four to one.

Speaker 1 (00:59):
One oh and that said high in the air.

Speaker 6 (01:02):
The left Tours is going back at the wall looking.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
Up see letter.

Speaker 6 (01:08):
A three run homer for Jiner Diz and the Astros
lead is seven to one. Jiners sixteenth of the year.
Three two two Hernandez and that is strike three call
right after the knees in ninety seven. Hernandez goes down
looking fifth strikeout for blue Ball, who has completed four
innings of one run ball, and we go to the

(01:29):
seventh Astro seven Marlins two one two round ball left side,
waiting on a corea. He backhand straightens up, guns to
first and that is the ballgame. The Houston Astros make
it two in a row in Miami as they defeat
the Marlins tonight seven to three.

Speaker 8 (01:46):
Yeah, it's won savor it a little bit. Nice performance
last night there in Miami. And with that we say
away we go and good morning here on the Sean
Salisbury Shraft.

Speaker 9 (01:56):
They got a little fire the way, if you got five,
don't lose it.

Speaker 1 (02:00):
If you got a dude or die.

Speaker 9 (02:02):
Dream do it. Yeah, a little Zimmerman and Luke COLEMs.
I was gonna say, you got up on the Western WEDNESDA.
Damn rights I am. They got a fire and don't
lose it. Man, you got beat by the swept by
the Socks. Now listen.

Speaker 1 (02:13):
You know me.

Speaker 9 (02:14):
If they're gonna get swept by anybody, everybody's will be
the Samets for my lifetime. You know, affinity, But I
bounce backs. Good little bullpen day got solid five from
blue Ball. We're number sixty nine. Yeah, well, there are
a lot of in you windows. There's a lot of
ways that.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
Could go in. There's only one through ninety nine you
can go with. And that's there.

Speaker 10 (02:38):
You go.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
I go out there and uh, what's the number?

Speaker 9 (02:40):
What's the story behind number sixty nine? Now they just
gave it to me. Well, I'll tell you what. You
go five innings and do what you did. I mean,
blue Ball will be very relaxed and and you know,
and you get this, you know Sanchez out there doing
his thing from the trade deadline and get him in
a lineup and doing other teams dirty with his glove
and his bat.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 9 (03:02):
And then uh, you didn't you know, your sees to
exist with Dylan sees. But they went after the trade
deadline with Gusto and hopefully it'll all work out.

Speaker 8 (03:09):
I was gonna say, I was wondering if you had
one more and you paid it off.

Speaker 1 (03:12):
Oh yeah, machine gun you have.

Speaker 9 (03:15):
To there you got when you start machine gunning, you
gotta you put in that in that Tommy gun and
you let it rip.

Speaker 1 (03:21):
Talk. So here we are.

Speaker 9 (03:22):
But yeah, good, Uh worked out really really well for
them getting it done, and you know, getting that five
was five solid in the middle there was really really
good and back to back days, little long ball, little
bats of awoken. And now they're getting ready for a
series on a team that's reeling uh here in the
next day or two. But go close this out and
then get your butt to New York. There's gonna be

(03:44):
a lot. I actually can't wait for that series to
see both teams response to that one, because it should
be rocking.

Speaker 1 (03:50):
It really should be.

Speaker 8 (03:51):
And you got one more today, as you mentioned this afternoon,
late a late afternoon game today, three forty first pitch
for that one, so a lot of you getting off
work you'll be able to catch the end of that one.
But of course you can always catch it right here
with Robert and Steve on your home of the Astro
Sports Talk seven ninety. But I mean, then I really
got started on a good foot where you know you're

(04:14):
able to step out with the right one there, and
that's jose L two Ve leaving the yard there in
the first inning with the two run homer. And you
know that's one of those things that Joaspott has talked
about numerous times of getting out to an early lead,
especially you got a young pitcher out there.

Speaker 1 (04:27):
Even last night, you got a.

Speaker 8 (04:29):
Bullpen game, which can we really call it a bullpen
game because I mean you had Okurt for the one inning.

Speaker 1 (04:35):
He did a great job.

Speaker 8 (04:36):
You got Klibbort for what was it the the final
out or final two outs?

Speaker 5 (04:42):
I thought it was.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
I thought it was just a third of an inning.

Speaker 8 (04:44):
Right, Yeah, so not much for Kliboard And then I
mean credit to AJ blue Ball. I mean I think
that Joa Spotta did set out to have him be
the long man, but I don't think he set out
to say, hey, you got five innings and you well, yeah, yeah, Skip,
I got I got five.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
I can do that for you.

Speaker 9 (04:59):
And he was able to pay off on it absolutely,
And well you go in hopeing those those are kind
of a hope that everybody's got, that they take care
of their business in a specialized day. Right, And then
you turn around and ask a guy who's you know,
had moments up here and then been up and down
and then come in here, give us five at a time.
I know they're playing Miami, I know where they're at,

(05:21):
but you still needed it. You needed solid five hell,
when he came out there, do you think you were
going to get five out of him?

Speaker 1 (05:28):
No?

Speaker 9 (05:30):
Right at the most right and to do that, which
is a big help. You know, you're almost at the
point now as you start to roll through this, and
I know it may be still a little premature to
say it, but an all hands on deck approaches what
you all when when you get to this stage of
the season precious and I keep saying it, I know,
one hundred and sixty two piece out there's plenty of

(05:51):
room to win. They are pressure. It's hard to win, man,
it really is. Just you want to go through some
teams that can validate that for us and the Astros
to the resilience and the ability to keep coming back
after you go through losing streaks and to keep that
lead or important. I always wonder what the journal is
going to look like on twenty twenty five when the

(06:13):
season's over. I don't know when the season is going
to end, you know what I'm saying. You hope the
later the better. But I always wonder when we write
into that journal or look back on the journal of
the season, those moments, what's going to stick out the most? Okay,
injuries resilience, overcoming it, grit, all those things that we
talk about, and we'll visit with Dana Brown today, but

(06:34):
you know, some other things of a moment, and it
may be only a game or two where somebody had
to elevate and pull them out of it, and.

Speaker 1 (06:42):
That may be the end.

Speaker 9 (06:43):
Like you said, we don't know what's going to happen,
but five innings of blue ball down. When we look
at it three weeks from now, you might say, you
know what, and you say, well, it's just five innings.
Well it's just one game. It's just one swing of
the bat, it's just one pitch. So it does matter.
And once again a guy that will while he's had
some moments on the big league level, we didn't expect him.

(07:05):
I mean put it this way, you didn't expect him
to be a difference maker throughout the season this year
in spot moments. And when you get those spot moll
it's like that backup in football, Dan who comes in.
You're like, oh, we're on our fourth receiver and then
he catches nine balls for one hundred and thirty yards
in a game when you didn't expect it and two
touchdowns and you're like and he may not give you
that kind of performance. Again, he may he may mix

(07:28):
in some other games, but you need him. And while understated,
still important because you can't lose these series when you're on.
You can't come an off a series where you got swept.
You can't go into another ballpark on a team you're
supposed to hammer and get beat. And two days in
a row, it's been pretty pretty no doubt for them
as they gear up for what is going to become

(07:49):
a you know, the old hundred meter, you know, relay
and the and there's there's a couple other teams that
are run about the same old record times the Astros do,
and they're gonna have to get performances like that. It
won't be their last bullpen day of the year or opener,
however you describe it. But when you get five out

(08:10):
of a guy that you know, okay, I'd have taken
three and two thirds, wouldn't you?

Speaker 1 (08:14):
Sure?

Speaker 9 (08:14):
So here you are and then bats and you know
it doesn't matter who you get. Remember, nobody goes back
and says, hey, man, when was yin or turned? When
did he turn the season round? And when did somebody
Christian Walker, whoever it is throughout the year. You just
never know what game it is. Nobody says, oh, he
turned it around against Trek Scuball. You don't care, right,
and you don't care if you turn it around against Miami.

(08:36):
You don't care if somebody else turned it around against
you know, Crochet.

Speaker 1 (08:40):
You don't care who it is.

Speaker 9 (08:42):
It's just when you start to get going in this offense,
it's like, Okay, now go do it against somebody else.
But there's something to be said for, you know, putting
runs on the board, because you also don't go back. Yeah,
we did it, but we did it against the team
we're supposed to be. It's pro baseball and everybody's getting paid.
You have to program yourself as a player to say,
I don't care if I'm playing the Tennessee Titans of

(09:02):
the Kansas City Chiefs. The wins, the win, and that
may be the one when I say springboard, they're in
first place in at the springboard. But an extra boost on,
an extra boost when you hand the baton to get
that guy kicked in and give him a lead and
you can go out there and close it out right,
You don't want to drop that baton against good against
bad teams.

Speaker 1 (09:20):
You just don't. When I say bad teams, teams that
you're supposed to be well.

Speaker 8 (09:24):
I mean, and it was pretty much the beginning of
the month of July once you left LA until the
really this series. And it's not even to say that
you're out of it yet, because the Astros had won
series in between there, but they'd only want a couple
of them. I mean, they'd been either getting swept or
losing the series outrights. And now I mean, you're able
to win this one, you'd like to be able to

(09:45):
put together another one against the Yankees. Come back home.
You need to exact some revenge against the Red Sox.
You'd like to at least, so you hope you can
do that against them on your home field and be
able to start to try to get some separation.

Speaker 1 (09:58):
Mean, it's tough for.

Speaker 9 (09:59):
You the Rain.

Speaker 8 (10:00):
I mean, they just they're continuing to find a way
right now, and I mean they do it again last
night against the Yankees, and the Mariners also doing what
you'd expect them to do against the White Sox. I
don't think you're gonna get much help from the White Sox.
Maybe they take a game here, but you still need
to handle your business with them.

Speaker 1 (10:19):
Playing against an opponent like.

Speaker 9 (10:21):
That, there's absolutely no question. And we knew that the
Texas Rangers were going to hover around.

Speaker 1 (10:28):
You just did.

Speaker 9 (10:29):
They've got too many good hitters not to hit. And
we talk about their pitching. They're just like we brag
about our front line pitching. Dude, what's not to like
about theirs? An improve bullpen too, going to get in
cool one and a bunch of guys.

Speaker 1 (10:45):
They needed both.

Speaker 9 (10:45):
You think about teams that Dodgers needed bullpen help with
all their stuff as a team, he say, Okay, we
can't let that be the reason we don't get where
we want to go. This team needed bullpen help, meaning
the Texas Rangers. When I say this team, the one
you were just talking about, Hell, you take a look
at it. If a bullpen lets you down throughout a season,
your chances. To me, your bullpen's almost like a great

(11:07):
defense when you apply it to football. If you don't,
you can field ground balls and do all that. But
the pitching staff, you know, if the Jimmies and Joe's,
which you're fine, but if the x's and o's and
Jimmy's and Joe's are on the same page and you
get beat.

Speaker 5 (11:24):
You.

Speaker 9 (11:25):
It's like defense. You can go in and be as
explosive as you want. And this team hasn't been overly
explosive this year. So now what do you got to
do to offset that? You better play Baltimore Ravens two
thousand defense, Honest to god. Now the Astros offense is
better than the Ravens offense was the first part of
that season. But you got to do it. So you
apply it to different sports and how it works. That's
how I look at the bullpen, and you can be

(11:47):
think about what a bullpen can cost you, and it
may be collateral damage from your inability to score runs,
or you're starting pitching to get deep throughout a season.
But a fresh bullpen. How many times have you heard
somebody say a fresh leg? I mean, you want to
get veterans rest, But I'm not real worried about camp
Smith's legs come September. He's young and fine. But what
do we always worry about every year on every team?

(12:09):
We just got to make sure our bullpen holds up.
Starting pitching can get to a certain They said, we've
got to make sure. How many times you heard that
overused phrase? But validated overused bullpen. Man, they're warn't out.
You don't want that, And that simple thing is a
big thing, like five innings from a guy on an
opener that's not You don't expect that to be the norm,

(12:31):
and to go out and do that wins like this,
are you sure one win's not going to separate separate
the division from the wild card? Did two years ago
on the last day, right, And it was a tiebreaker,
I'm not mistaken. And it was after the Mariners were
already out of the postseason, and they were like, hey, guys,
you know, even though we don't really like you in Houston,
we still got your back, right, We'll send them in

(12:53):
as a wild card, and you guys go on as
the division champs. So we talked defense, starting pitching and
field and ground with catching the baseball and get into
the bullpen. But in truth, what's the real part of
your defense? When it gets right down to it, your
bullpen has to be solid, it just does. And it's
got to be rested. And there's that fine line of
rested but not too rested that you're not sharp, and

(13:15):
then there's that got to be sharp but not so sharp,
and so battle tested that by the time you get
where the real battle begins, when it's a series and
short series and single elimination games, you don't want to
be Oh man, they're battle tested. The problem is the
World Series isn't in August or September. So it's been
a pretty good gig for them this year. With the

(13:38):
way they're starting pitching is help them defend. But if
you're looking at defense, if you have a good bullpen,
can you can help yourself big time even when you're
not swinging the bat yet and they're starting to swing
it like we expect them at least these last two
games now that they're going to be challenged along the
way with better pitching as well. But it was I
look at wins like yesterday because it could have got

(13:58):
lost in the shuffle.

Speaker 1 (13:59):
It's a game.

Speaker 9 (14:00):
It's gonna be big deal, right, can't We're we're at
the season that that's not the ky can't do it,
especially looking in that side view Mayor and realizing that
the Mariners are close and charging and can pitch like
you and soaking the Rangers think about what's it gonna
come down to?

Speaker 1 (14:13):
Dan a clutch hit from all three?

Speaker 9 (14:16):
All three got better at the trade deadline via trades,
and then it's going to take How do you you
just scored four runs, but how do you prevent the
other team from doing it? Well, your bullpen better be good.
And I'll be the first to tell you that if
you say, whose bullpen holds up at the end, that
will be the team that wins this division.

Speaker 1 (14:34):
Can't argue with that.

Speaker 8 (14:36):
And a group that we've had times beaten down, well
maybe they deserve a little bit of kudos. We'll talk
about them here as we're just getting going. On a
Western Wednesday, it is the Sean Salisbury Show, Sports Talk
seven to ninety.

Speaker 2 (14:51):
The Jean Salisbury Show continues for.

Speaker 8 (14:54):
Those who are pining to see And you know, I
gotta believe mel Kuiper is gonna be watching that game
very closely because it's going to be if you know,
if he completes three out of four passes and maybe
scrambles for a first down something like that, you're gonna
have mel Kiper see see you all you all missed.
And Dave's one and two and look what the Browns have.
Now you know it's coming. You know it's coming.

Speaker 9 (15:15):
And the fact that he's getting the start in game one,
people are automatically going to say, he's the guy. Yes,
he's the guy. You guys got to listen, Joe, can
you pick it? See you guys, you're out here. I
get why you want to be excited for a guy.
If you're if you're think Shudeur Sanders as a player, great.
I don't have problem with that. And this game is

(15:35):
gonna matter to him because he does. It's a chance
to showcase. Most of the showcasing goes on on the
practice field. Now you just got to go validate what
they do or don't think about you, right right, I
would caution people, well, he's Flacco's not going.

Speaker 1 (15:50):
To get a lot of work.

Speaker 9 (15:51):
He doesn't need much work, right, You've got to give
him and Dylan Gabriel somewhere to find out what the
pecking order is going to be and what you got
to work.

Speaker 1 (15:58):
And that's okay.

Speaker 9 (15:59):
But I'm watching yesterday and there's a video of Caleb
Williams throwing into a net.

Speaker 1 (16:10):
From twelve yards. It was less than fifteen.

Speaker 9 (16:13):
It was like a curl where the guy's running a
twelve back to ten curl, but the net was sitting
there like he worked his way, so it's like it
was no more than twelve. It's like a ten yard
throw right in front of him in short just or
he might even been uses but he's just throwing now
the ones the day before where he was missing the
net in the contest and walk with yesterday he threw
one into the net, and the person who posted this says, yeah,

(16:37):
they to put more respect on Caleb's accuracy in the
rest I know it is, and I'm like, dude, he
threw a pass with no rush, like a warm up
into the net that's got the three hole openings. Did
you work with your kid in the backyard or on
a field frat and that's a state fair? Yes, so

(16:59):
you do the state fair. And he threw it, and
it's like, you've got to stop this now. I understand
some of the hyperbolic hyperbole and the hyperbolic approach that
some of these posts have, and you almost feel like
they're trolling, saying, yeah, look at this. What you know
there's been when that big four hundred and fifty pound
dude standing around and one guy on Twitter says, look

(17:21):
at his love for the game. He's fatten out of
shape right now, and that's why he's not practicing. I'm
sure he has a love for the game, but unfortunately
for his own health. Forget football. He better that that's you.
You're a detric because he can't move at four fifty right,
But he throws. Caleb throws the ball into a net,
and we're now pining for his accuracy and that we

(17:42):
should put respect on his accuracy because he threw an
uncontested throw into a net from ten yards away.

Speaker 1 (17:48):
Desmond Watson was that player you were talking about there
you go.

Speaker 9 (17:50):
Said that the hype and then you wonder why people
look at you sideways or a player or somebody who
had You're like, you can't be listen.

Speaker 1 (18:02):
I like that.

Speaker 9 (18:03):
Everybody can has an opportunity of a voice, but some
voices or posts just need to stop.

Speaker 1 (18:08):
Okay, throwing the ball in doing that from ten yards
is not an accurate throw. That's that.

Speaker 9 (18:14):
If you can't make that throw, I need you to
take two weeks off and find another career. You better
be able to make that throw with eleven cats, let
alone nobody and Caleb Williams. Maybe Caleb Williams may be
able to make it. But my point is the over
you're gonna get this with that, and it's Shador Sanders. Dude,
don't let him go eight and nine. They'll have him
mark for the Hall of Fame in a preseason game. Now,

(18:37):
every thrower to him, this is going to feel like
it's the biggest game of his life.

Speaker 8 (18:41):
Taylor doing on the sidelines. I'm measuring him for the
for the Blazer already.

Speaker 9 (18:46):
Right for him, it matters he's for the rest of
It's like, Okay, it's a preseason game. For him, It's
like he's going to this is a super Bowl to him.
Because you're trying to impress the crowd. You're more importantly
trying to impress your teammates that they can trust you.
You're letting the coaching staff know this dates You've given
me a little work in practice. But people, I don't
care if he completes ten out of ten. Temperate you

(19:07):
think Trey Lance is starting for the Chargers after his
first game, no put up through two touchdowns, look good.
Trey Lance hasn't urinated a drop in the league. And
that's why he's on his third team in what four
or five years because he's just not been good. Well,
maybe this is the place he'll be good, but he's
not a threat to Herbert and with the Chargers at
LA he had a good preseason game, which for him huge,

(19:30):
But all it is is building trust so the organization
can trust you if they have to put you in.
But it's shedor Sanders. Dude, you watch put it this way.
Coming out of this weekend, what do you think the
most hyped talk is going to.

Speaker 1 (19:42):
Be good or bad? Oh? Shuture, yeah, without question? Right?

Speaker 8 (19:47):
Then then for those seeing people, I would say, look
up Chase Daniel with the Saints. Right Remember every single
year he was the MVP of the league. The preseason
with the Saints.

Speaker 9 (19:55):
It's no doubt. But you look at it, it won't matter.
It's like he's going to be It won't matter what
goes on. If he plays well. You got to give
him a starting opportunity. If he doesn't play well, then
the other gonna come out and they're going to say,
see he sucked in college and they're going to and
if he plays poorly, that's not gonna that doesn't define
him either. It's a preseason game that you're still you're experimenting.

(20:18):
We're going you're still putting the library in. And if
i'm the coordinator on a team like that. And I
when I was the coordinator for the two All American
Games in Dallas, right the Army All American Game early,
and I'm trying to showcase these guys because there's people
watching and then you know, it's a it's a validation
for that they've played great and they got invited to this.
But there's also you know, recruiters and college coaches and

(20:39):
people there watching for maybe a late bloomer or how
they play, or you're you're young quarterback from LSU. But
the being no, the young one they recruited two years ago,
five star kid from Louisiana who was like sixteen when
he's a freshman. Why am I losing my mind? Is
that Colin's what's he's about. He was a top recruit
for them to year to two recruiting classes ago.

Speaker 1 (21:01):
This feeds right into what I was talking about.

Speaker 9 (21:04):
It is Colin Hurley. There you go, I said, Colin, right, yeah,
great kid.

Speaker 1 (21:08):
Well, I had him.

Speaker 9 (21:09):
He was a sixteen year old senior going you know
what I'm saying, going into his and he had signed
with LSU. He was getting ready to leave right after
that to go January. Because the game was in December
after the high school season, and I got news for you, brother.
He could speak. Hell, he must have thrown for four fifty.

(21:30):
But I wanted to you know, you put him out there.
Let's have some fun showcasing him. It doesn't mean either
that he can't go play well at LSU, but you're
showcasing him to find out what you got. I wanted
to see it. Hell, I was selfish. I'll put the
ball in his hand. Let's see ripping it around a lot.
We got four E Division one receivers for you from USC.

Speaker 1 (21:48):
Let's go.

Speaker 9 (21:49):
And he validated with about six five six passes through
for like four fifty. We couldn't stop anybody on defense.
But had we have, I've been by the year before.
You know who my quarterback was, Kansas quarterback. That kid
can flat ass do what I got him. He wasn't
a highly recruited kid. You know who I'm talking about,
the dual threat. And now now that I'm thinking about Colin,
I lose my mind. The starting quarterback with Kansas Kansas State,

(22:12):
uh Wildcats looking it up right now. This just shows
you how disconnected Avery Johnson. Yeah, Avery, Yes, we got him.
He started working with him and we're going through practice
and we didn't go full speed to practice because you
know your work routes. You are, but you know we're
not tackling body the ground. We go, I'm ready for
the game. Yeah, yeah, there's the court. We're running some RPO.

(22:34):
Doe did we get into the game? And Avery's tall
and thin, but he's explosive talent, so you start to
see you don't really see it because he's not we're
not going full speed, and you say, well, everybody talks
about how he was in high school, really good player, right,
going to Kansas State and you think, okay, what do
I got here? Do we our first series? I call

(22:57):
an RPO to the we're running r PO to the left.
He rides the fake, pulls it, keeps it because the
in crashed. He gets outside contained puts his foot in
the ground from about the thirty five yard line forty
yard line and I'm telling you he put He was
the fastest he ripped through there. I thought I was

(23:18):
looking at four to three. He got he scored, and
I looked over at my head Houston Nut, who's my
head coach? He was pumped up? I said, who, Because
you don't realize during the practice.

Speaker 1 (23:31):
Right.

Speaker 9 (23:31):
What he's a great dude to Houston nut is you
don't realize where that gear comes from because we weren't
practicing full speed as the first time, eleven on eleven
full speed, Right, dude, he hit that ground running and
he ended up I said, oh, I'm going to have
a blast with this today, because you know, when you
got guys like that and all these players, the key
is just out of their way, right, coach him up,

(23:52):
pass the fun and let it rip. And it's an
all star game, it's an all American game. Let him
go play. I put the ball. He ended up being
the MVP. I've been fortunate because if you're gonna show
me something, dude, well I'm putting the ball in your hand.

Speaker 1 (24:04):
You go do something with it.

Speaker 9 (24:05):
So the point is is that, But then we didn't
know if Avery Johnson or how good Colin's going to
be at the next level. And I think he's gonna
be really good. He's still young, and and Avery Johnson
was gonna be this. Avery Johnson wanted to Avery Johnson
will be a Heisman Trophy guy. I don't know if
he's gonna win it, but we already see his explosive ability, right.

Speaker 1 (24:21):
And you can see him a couple of weeks. That's
exactly right.

Speaker 9 (24:23):
So but it doesn't assure, it doesn't It didn't guarantee
anything when he went to you know, Kansas State. Yeah,
and he lost Colin Kleine, who's his offensive coordinator at
A and M and so, and now he's been spectacular.
But it's the same thing. You're They're gonna go nuts
no matter what Schador does. Chador's focus has got to
be just get completions. But if he doesn't play well,
they're gonna bury him. I mean, meaning the fan all

(24:46):
they see. That's why I got draft and it could
be just simply three throws or they're going to oh
my gosh, we got to start him. So it's a
unique thing, but please just give the kid a break,
whether you like him or not. Expectations we put on
these players. Hell, I put it on them when I
was coaching those all. It's like John Temperate there, they're
seventeen and college was sixteen years old and dude ripping

(25:10):
it all over to play sinking sixteen with that arm ls.
You've got a good one right at the time. So
Temperate with Schudoor no matter what happens. But this is
hype season, USA, brother, and you know how that goes.

Speaker 8 (25:22):
Yeah, I always love the training camp fall camp tweets.
Oh man, this guy looks so good breakout season. It's
okay to say that, and maybe but you might be right.

Speaker 9 (25:31):
But it's such a small body of work in such
a short period of time in preseason, nobody's game planning
you if I'm playing shed door Sanders, now, if he
were game planning for him, it was the opener. Let's
say they started him, you do, somebody's hurt and Flacco
couldn't play. Now as a defensive coordinator, you know what
I'm doing. I'm looking at college tape and I'm because
that's basically got I'm looking at their offensive system and

(25:53):
college tape also saying, oh guy can't pick up a
backside or whatever it is. You like, Yeah, and now
guess that's what I'm doing. I Am going to feast
off that until he proves that. Those guys will find
whatever weakness you got, they will study it, and they
will exploit it and do everything they can to get
you to go back, reverting back to the bad plays

(26:13):
you made whenever it was, and then you get film
on him. So it's preseasons, just pitch and catch. Opening
season a whole different level of intensity. So temper your thoughts.
And if you're in Cleveland, you want to see something
good better than you do bad. You know, you want
to see him play well. But he's not opening his
starter unless three guys get hurt in front of him.

(26:33):
That's just a fact. And so we got to give
him a break. Although I'm sure he'd like to, he
will not be ready, and he's not ready, but it'll
be fun to see. But watch the hype train, dude,
no matter what happens, watch watch how they cover.

Speaker 1 (26:44):
This, Oh this weekend.

Speaker 8 (26:46):
You think that hype train is already getting started with
yesterday's news with the NFL network.

Speaker 1 (26:51):
How's that going.

Speaker 8 (26:52):
I was gonna say that's gonna be something we'll cover
as the show goes along, But we're just getting going here.
On the sewn Saalisbury Show on a Western Wednesday, I
mentioned the kudos for this group of astros.

Speaker 1 (27:02):
Let's hand them out next, But.

Speaker 8 (27:06):
The shown Salisbury show continued, I can kind of understand
because it kind of does fire you up for the day.
I mean, maybe you need it every once in a while,
and well the NFL players not gonna have a chance
to be able to do that. But talking astros right here,
seven one to three, they us want to encourage it.

Speaker 9 (27:22):
Dan, Yeah, that used to be how you'd get through
a concussion. You got now call wrong, huh yeah. Here here,
I'm gonna crack this.

Speaker 5 (27:30):
Try this.

Speaker 9 (27:30):
There was there was no go in and get an
X ray, but I'll get an MRI at halftime. There's
no concussion protocol, was fingers, and the trainer, the doctor
behind you saying how do you feel? And you'd lie
your ass off because you wanted to stay if you know,
if you're getting an opportunity to happen to me, well
more than once and sometimes in here thinking smell this
and then you come over to the sideline to get
through the rest of the game. So wake it, you know,

(27:52):
because when you're concussed, and this wasn't default by them,
that was all that.

Speaker 1 (27:57):
That's how you did it.

Speaker 9 (27:59):
Two fingers, how you do look in your eyes with
their little light and stuff, you feel right, yeah, And
they'll ask you a question, what's your You go about it,
and then you get the huddle and you're like I
can't remember a damn thing. But guess how you survive
that concussion during the game is you smell and salt
your then ammonia your ass off, and it is that
if you want to you want to wake up in

(28:20):
the morning, you're having a tough day and you have
one of those you break that thing and sniffet that
they do. I got news for you. There ain't no
energy drink you're drinking. It's going to hit you like
that does. So it was the here's what you do
on the sidelines. It was to get through a concussion,
and now it's well its mass concussions, and we sure
as hell don't want you to use it. Some guys
thrive on that and use it all game long. Kittle

(28:41):
was one of them.

Speaker 1 (28:42):
Said he said, almost before every single drive.

Speaker 9 (28:44):
Yeah, so yeah, I can't imagine that that's the healthiest
thing for you, every drive, every game, all the time.
But then again, football is a psycho sport anyway, that
is not meant for you to stay or made healthy
your whole life. Would you do it some sacrifices, but yeah,
that that's going to piss a lot of the big
fellows off for people that trying to get through that.
But yeah, I can remember distinctly of taking it and

(29:06):
you're like this stuff, you know throughout your career, you
did it. I mean they had it in high school,
they had in college, I had in the NFL. Now
I got news for you. What's going to happen though?
And you know how this goes. Do you think George
Kittle's ever going.

Speaker 1 (29:18):
To use it? Oh?

Speaker 9 (29:19):
Yeah, you're just not gonna see it, right because they're
not going to test for They're not going to test
for it on some random drug test. But and I
shouldn't speak for George, but my guess is if that's
been your routine, Dan that, if it was mine judging
it and how we do it, you're just not going

(29:40):
to know. You're just I know there's a lot of cameras,
but I'll find a way, even if it's putting that
damn thing in the bottom of a Gatorade cup like
when you're drinking and you can inhale the cup. Whatever
it is to get through. The players will beat the system.
I can assure you they will. So if you think
in my mind this is my if you think George

(30:00):
Kittle's uh breaking that off and getting him going between
series is done, save.

Speaker 1 (30:07):
It se ain't gonna happen.

Speaker 9 (30:08):
I know for a fact that guys, you know, hey,
so and so is walking into the medical tent. Oh
you know, what'd you go in there for? I just
get taped up a little bit. I'm all right, But
that they went in there to use the restroom. Oh yeah, yeah, hey,
I really I really got to go. I know guys
that just peed themselves if it was hot and sweaty
in the like early fall, or they just they just

(30:31):
peed their pants and just kept playing Jackson, right, guy
Schle will tell you he done it most guys, especially
if it's a mutter or if it's really really hot
and here nobody can tell the difference.

Speaker 1 (30:43):
You know, that's just sweat.

Speaker 9 (30:45):
And the only problem is if you're a quarterback and
you got to put your hands under center.

Speaker 1 (30:48):
Now that's not that's not.

Speaker 9 (30:50):
But while the game's going on, you think, eat nasty bastard,
But you keep playing.

Speaker 1 (30:54):
What are you gonna do with your big fella?

Speaker 9 (30:55):
You're you could dog about and at the end of it,
you can go pee on his leg in the shower
like guys do to pay him back. But that's just
the way it works, But oh dude, they'll go in
there for a lot of reasons, okay, and a lot
of them aren't the fact that you're worried about a
blown out hamstring. Okay, and so you pop on in
there and you say, okay, put it this way. If

(31:16):
you see Kitt'll make If you see Kittle going there
twelve times and they have twelve drives, you'll know that
George Kittle, who I think is the best all around
tight end in football, right I do. I mean, I'm
not just talking about I'm talking about a blocker. Kittle's
when you talk about a guy who can do it all.
He may not be the best pass catching, but he's
the best at all of it combined, right I do.

(31:37):
George Kittle's days of getting jacked up and the eyes
getting big and get ready to go are not over
because they made this decision, and you and I both
though he'll just have to buy or get it himself
or probably has back up at the crib that he's
that he's saved and stored for a while. Now you
don't have to worry about George Kittle being pumped and
ready to play.

Speaker 8 (31:53):
All of the helpers there on the sidelines, not just
like the immediate staff, trainers, everybody like that. There's somebody
that after the game is going to have a pocket
full of used ones. But at the end they're gonna
be They're gonna be, you know, going into the locker room.
Make sure no cameras see me, all right, throw these away?

Speaker 1 (32:09):
Was it? Was it?

Speaker 9 (32:10):
What's Steve? Was it not Escape? Was it not Escape
from Alcatraz? What was the one Steve McQueen old school movie?

Speaker 1 (32:16):
Were they? Great Escape?

Speaker 5 (32:17):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (32:17):
The Great Escape? Thank you? One of the great al
time movies. Motorcycle.

Speaker 9 (32:20):
Yeah, And every time I think of I think, don't
you don't you think of McQueen on that bike or
they get away? But you know how like even in
with Clint, with Clint Eastwood in the Great Escape? Yeah,
was that the great No, it's a cool cool No.
What's what's the one you just said with a Great Escape?
Great Escape? What was the one where Escape from Alcatraz?

(32:41):
When when that was Eastwood?

Speaker 1 (32:42):
Old School?

Speaker 5 (32:42):
Right?

Speaker 9 (32:43):
Remember how they'd go into the yard or something too,
and they were they'd empty their pockets with the dirt
because they were cleaned. The dirt output in their pocket,
so they'd walk around the yard during they'd empty their
pockets and didn't fall down by their shoe. Same thing here,
somebody could empty their pockets. Are gonna be fifteen to
those of bone, you little snippers that get it done.
But it's a there's a lot going on in the
NFL this as we get ready to kick off, and

(33:04):
I'm here for all of it.

Speaker 5 (33:06):
Dude.

Speaker 9 (33:06):
It could be like Andy do frame with the pickaxe,
just exactly put up the poster.

Speaker 1 (33:10):
That's right. Then the warden goes. It's like, damn it,
well Shawshank.

Speaker 9 (33:13):
Actually, yeah, some of our best movies have been like
Escape from an Old School, The Great Escape, and Escape
from Alcatraz and obviously the one you're talking about with Shawshank.
So but yeah, I would imagine Kittle is going to
be just fine, thank you. He'll figure it out. So
the rules are made to be broken, yes, and laws
football laws. Maybe at times you could abide by the law,

(33:35):
like don't smoke weed if you're going to be tested
randomly because you're a probably cause guy, or don't do
steroids or don't do those if you're a random testerer
because you're going to get caught up. But some things
that they're not going to test for you get away
with because well it's football and you're always.

Speaker 1 (33:49):
Trying to get an in. I'm holding up my nicotine
pouches right now.

Speaker 8 (33:51):
Remember that last year with Baker Mayfield, he threw one
in the camera caught him. They were like, oh my God,
can't believe he's doing that on the sidelines. It's like,
it's not hurt anybody.

Speaker 1 (34:00):
Wasn't matter, not hurting anybody that Marchez.

Speaker 8 (34:05):
When he ate a hot dog on the sidelines and
everybody's losing their minds just like he's eating a hot dog.

Speaker 1 (34:09):
What do you care?

Speaker 9 (34:10):
We just didn't get the cameras catching it. And Wrigley
Field on a Sunday or Monday night football McMahon went
back to Wrigley Field. He said, kid, are you hungry?
I said, yeah, I'm hungry. I usually go in and
I'd get two candy bars at halftime. They'd hand it
when our equipment managers would hand it of Sammy Castle
INNDO would always I'd walk in him and Dennis Ryan
and I'd walk in too. Nestley's crunches in your hand
because they knew your routine. So I'd get my two

(34:31):
candy bars at halftime. Now, Randall McDaniel, real quick, our
Hall of Fame off offensive guard.

Speaker 1 (34:36):
He would come in every game.

Speaker 9 (34:39):
Dude, He's one of those guys that like would would
eat sugar and it would turn to protein. Like two
hundred and sixty eight and seventy pound guard that could.
We'd go on our Minnesota Vikings if you used that
problem off season two, I'm not kidding you now, Yeah,
and he was. You know, he had that weird stance
with his leg where there's like the inside of his
ankle bone would be on the ground. You're like, how
does this guy play? And then you and his supreme

(35:02):
human being? Right did he'd come in because he and
we'd be playing team of basketball traveling Viking team in
the offseason. Dude, I'd just throwing balls in a low block.
He'd drop step and hammer dunk on people that were
high school play good player's phenomenal talent.

Speaker 1 (35:16):
Right.

Speaker 9 (35:17):
So he'd come in and with a with a literal
pillowcase filled with fifty candy bars, and he'd offer whoever
wanted him, but he'd probably eat twenty of them.

Speaker 1 (35:28):
Yeah, till every week.

Speaker 9 (35:30):
So we'd come in and with with that, they give
candy bars. So we go out in the second half
and maxis kid, you hungry. I said, yeah, I'm hungry.
He's calls an usher over says, we're hungry. Man, I'll
go sign a ball for you. Could you grab there?
He came back in five minutes, he asked somebody and
said came back to the usher, handed him two hot dogs
on the sideline. And it wasn't to be disrespectful. Jim

(35:52):
was just starving and Jim didn't want to wait, so
I said hell yeah, so and it was cold because
later the season, so you just stick the hot dog
in your bag and combine of it when you knew
nobody was watching. The cameras weren't paying that much attention then.
But it's the same thing here. You're always looking for
the advantage and players will find a way to get
it done when necessary. And there's some of the old start.
You could have a round table old stories that would

(36:13):
be that people say, what, yeah, what is exactly right? Well,
you got to have an emphasis for Cheeseburgerretti somewhere. I mean,
you know who doesn't like cheeseburgerretti? Dude, you can't cheese
Burgerretti couldn't finish alwa around the field.

Speaker 1 (36:29):
I got the burgers. I got burgers, man.

Speaker 9 (36:31):
Yeah, good times had by all Man, and it's gonna
be a fun season this year.

Speaker 1 (36:35):
Mike Irvin dunks the ball, he starts throwing cheese boy.

Speaker 9 (36:39):
Yeah. And then when your guy Terry Crews does the robot.
You know there was that cast. We we we had some,
we had some good yeah, for sure, man, for sure.
It makes me want to watch it again.

Speaker 8 (36:51):
All right, Astro's discussion, all of that's there, get in
a little bit of Texans.

Speaker 1 (36:55):
The show goes along.

Speaker 8 (36:56):
As Sean mentioned earlier, don't forget Dana Brown nine thirty
his weekly visit here, Sewn Salisbury show just getting going
here on a Western Wednesday.

Speaker 1 (37:03):
Sports Talk seven ninety D and M Auto Leasing explain
something to you. Listen.

Speaker 9 (37:08):
Doesn't it come down to you want a quality product
if you're doing what you're doing. The average price for
a vehicle average is forty eight thousand friggin dollars?

Speaker 1 (37:17):
How do people afford it? Man?

Speaker 9 (37:19):
And the high prices? And then it leads to well,
money down and then all these high prices you're paying.
And I got to get a seven year loan you're like,
I'm married to this for seven years. Let's fix it.
And the way to fix it is DNM leasing. They've
been around, it feels like for one hundred years, but
they've been decade after decade in Dallas down here in
Houston expanding this brand where DNM leasing is not only

(37:41):
making a difference but saving for you. So why not
turn to somebody who's got easy lease. That's how they're
fixing this and making a difference. How would you like
to have lower payments, the customer service and it done
right for you when it comes to setting you up
in the right way and also with lower payments, isn't
that what we all want? And no money down through easylease,

(38:04):
that's who DNM leasing is. So you can either go
off and keep like what am I doing and be
bitter at the vehicle you bought, or you can go say,
I'm going to DNM leasing, no money down, keep more
money in my pocket, and I'm getting married to something
for seven years and lower monthly payments. Isn't that the object? Yeah,
So pop on in to dmauto leasing dot com. That's

(38:26):
dmauto leasing dot com and start your path to lower
monthly payments and no money down, And isn't it nice
when you buy a vehicle in here content or when
you lease that vehicle with easylease, you're more than content.
Best in the business DNM leasing dmauto leasing dot com.

Speaker 4 (38:44):
Let the celebration start, or Sean Salisbury to Sean Salisbury show.

Speaker 1 (38:52):
That ten percent equity stake is a lot of money.

Speaker 8 (38:55):
Oh, there's gonna be a batphone from Godell's office from
whoever you know. I don't and they even though if
Greg Ayello is still with the league or any of
those people, but it's gonna be somebody says something on
there and then it's gonna be damn that red phone
right there and just let on the floor. Yeah, that's
the NFL the bat phone sitting near the We say,
you know what, what are we going to get our

(39:16):
handslapped for? Don't say this about the league?

Speaker 1 (39:19):
Say this? Yeah.

Speaker 9 (39:20):
Oh, when you're on the NFL network, you ain't criticizing
the commissioner.

Speaker 1 (39:24):
No, So here's my problem with that.

Speaker 9 (39:27):
If the commission does something, or if somebody from a
league officer of the NFL changes a policy and you're
an analyst and you are like, it'll never fly with
the players. This is out of there. They're out of hand.
This is wrong and they've got to get their crap
in gear that Now you can't be in support. What
are you talking about? I'm just gon.

Speaker 1 (39:46):
You paid me to set up here and be honest.

Speaker 9 (39:48):
This is the sponsors media at the at the sports level
is exactly what it is. If you didn't like it then,
I mean recently over the last four or five years
or a decade, you may not like that. Now if
you're there, the cash the cash cow is going to
get huge if it already wasn't, which it was, but

(40:09):
the objective, objectivity and opinion exist is not exactly. So
you're now going to question every time somebody says something,
who are they protecting? Who are they watching over? Oh
toe in the company line. You can't be critical. They
have got to give them the freedom to do that.

Speaker 1 (40:26):
But they know it's not going to happen, so yeah
it is.

Speaker 9 (40:30):
It is, Ah, how that would work for monopolization their brother.

Speaker 1 (40:37):
Now it's gonna be the NBA and MLB wondering, hey,
who else can be? Yeah?

Speaker 9 (40:41):
Right, and do you combine an NFL network, ESPN, and
Disney the trifecta all under the same roof and the
one that sold it is ten percent shareholder. Now, when
you're a ten percent shareholder of a fortune five thousand company,
guess what you want?

Speaker 8 (40:56):
You and you got some pull, You have some pull.
Ten billion dollars we just gave you. It's got to
mean something. You got some pull.

Speaker 9 (41:04):
Okay, ten percents in a company that ten percent of
somebody's lunch money may not be what you think ten
percent of that And then try and then so you
get you're going to control some of that narrative. Oh,
there is no question about it. So thanks to see
how that network's going to go about their business. I'm
thinking when I was there for twelve we didn't have
to worry about that. But that whole thing has changed

(41:27):
since then, right, I mean, it is the things that
if you don't agree is certain, don't toe a certain approach,
an approach that most of us just.

Speaker 1 (41:36):
Don't want to watch.

Speaker 9 (41:37):
Yeah, I want to watch sports, and I want a hardcore,
fair opinion. I don't need the I I just with
my analyst. I need them not to be afraid to
criticize or compliment when it's not either comfortable or I
guess in Vogue that's the best ones and the person
will have the balls to do that.

Speaker 1 (41:57):
We'll see.

Speaker 8 (41:57):
Yeah, well it's gonna be fun, that's for sure. All Right,
seven o'clock hour is here. Let's get back into the
astros because you know, as I mentioned, we've railed against
these guys for so long.

Speaker 9 (42:07):
Let's give out some flowers right here. Sean Salisbury Show,
Sports SOOX seven ninety kd E Houston.

Speaker 2 (42:13):
At HD two Houston, iHeart radio station.

Speaker 11 (42:19):
And the Rocket Pro Sports Talk seven ninety your home
for your home teams from the Parsons that Matchine Next Studios.

Speaker 9 (42:31):
Salisbury osby Hoon.

Speaker 2 (42:36):
Okay, let's do this.

Speaker 3 (42:38):
Sean Salisbury, USC Troupes, longtime friend Shawn Salisbury.

Speaker 4 (42:43):
Dan Matthews, this is the Sean Salisbury Show.

Speaker 8 (42:52):
Got MLB Network on here in the studio, showing the
Rangers and Yankees from last night, and who closed it
out for the ring Well, the Emotionless Wonder film Mayton
now in Rangers, Red White and Blue.

Speaker 1 (43:06):
Oh I feel about that. I wouldn't have minded. Well,
he hate it when he closes it.

Speaker 8 (43:10):
I was gonna say, you know, seeing the amount of
games here that he either saved innings or whatever it was,
and he went out there with the same look on
his face, and he'd come off the mound no matter
how well it went, same look on his face. Although
I did one time when I did do a video
with him, I did get a smile out of him,
and I did share said smile from film maton. So

(43:33):
it was confirmation that he was not one hundred percent
of robot. Maybe just a cyberorg.

Speaker 9 (43:38):
I have a hunch though, after a tough adding or something,
he may go home and hit a heavy bag.

Speaker 1 (43:45):
Well, yeah, you know he did.

Speaker 3 (43:48):
He did.

Speaker 8 (43:50):
Say, yeah, he didn't have to wait till he got home,
and he hit something that was a little bit of
a harder inanimate object.

Speaker 9 (43:56):
Yeah, and uh, which kept him on the shelf. But
so while we say emotionless, I think there's fire in that,
in that their belly, and that's okay.

Speaker 8 (44:05):
I remember when they asked Dusty about it, and Dusty
it was like, you, he punched a locker or was it?

Speaker 1 (44:10):
Or was it AJ?

Speaker 8 (44:11):
Still it was it was it was either AJ or Dusty,
either of the ones they asked, and they were like, you,
he punched the locker.

Speaker 1 (44:17):
He's he's down, he's he's done.

Speaker 9 (44:19):
Yeah, And so have you ever noticed that all of
us that have punched something, we never choose a soft
thing to hit. It's almost like you want to punish yourself, right,
so you hit something hard and said, you know what,
go hit a speak, hit something that is actually not
going to break a knuckle or causing any eat stitches
beIN there. Yeah, and it's like, dude, could you please

(44:41):
choose something a little so don't don't be but we
always seem to find you know, hitting a brick wall
didn't work very well.

Speaker 8 (44:46):
Remember it was Crash Davis that tried to teach Nukelelus
that lesson, do you hit me with your left?

Speaker 1 (44:51):
Did you hit me with your right? With my left?

Speaker 12 (44:54):
All?

Speaker 1 (44:54):
Right? Good? Yeah, learn how to hit with your left hand.
You don't, you don't. You don't punch a drunk with
your pitching hand.

Speaker 9 (44:59):
Yeah, and as a football player, you don't punch a
helmet with your with your throwing hand, right right, Yeah,
just be smart. But then nobody said that when you're
seeing red, smart in red or quite the opposite, you.

Speaker 1 (45:12):
Know what I'm saying.

Speaker 9 (45:13):
Yeah, football fights. That was a good get at the
trade deadline for them, at least. Yeah, it was one
that talked about much but that they needed did the
Rangers so went for one hell of a run here
as we get down to stretch.

Speaker 8 (45:25):
Yes, we are Stros with their seven three win last
night over the Marlins, still three and a half games
up on Seattle and still five games up on the Rangers,
I believe is what it is right now?

Speaker 1 (45:38):
Or is it four and a half?

Speaker 8 (45:39):
I think it's four and a half right now, but
still close enough striking distance for either of those teams
to be able to go out to the They were
four and a half going in yesterday, right yeah, yeah, yeah,
So I was trying to give the Astros a half
game and unable to do that. So no, the Rangers
four and a half, and by the way, Seattle is
only three back of.

Speaker 1 (45:58):
You, so it's gonna be a fun run. Man. I
like this. You got to stay engage the whole time.
You do. I love it.

Speaker 8 (46:04):
No, all of you can be sticking and staying with
us too in that same regard, and then mentioned the
Texans speaking of speaking of training camp fights, saw some yesterday.

Speaker 9 (46:14):
This is the time, as honest to God, as a coach,
you're like, let's it's it's time to get through the
because once camp breaks now it's you're you're starting to
settle into the to the you know, you go through
preseason game camps don't last that long anymore anyway, but
you go and before you know, second pre you're on
your way breaking camp whenever. That might be for all
these teams. But the truth of the matter is is

(46:36):
it I don't have any problem. As a matter of fact,
at coaching staff say oh, we can't fight, We're gonna
get somebody hurt. And then they go in their meetings
and they're like, I love this shows fire Because if
you have to show me a team that doesn't fight
each other in training camp or like when you're practicing
against another team but there's not fights, I'll show you
a team that I'd rather have to grab somebody by

(46:59):
the back of the jersey pulling back.

Speaker 1 (47:00):
Yes, as opposed.

Speaker 9 (47:01):
To is there any fire in your belly? Once you're
tired of beating on your own team, that's what happens.
You get tired of beating on each other. Defense knows
what's offense is doing two weeks in a camp, it's
like you can't get completions, and then they're chattering and
you're tired, and so you start. You know, there's fights,
and the whole key is fight away. Just don't do something.
Don't yank off your helmet and hit a guy with it,

(47:23):
don't punch a helmet just if you.

Speaker 1 (47:25):
Come out of it.

Speaker 9 (47:25):
Just scuffle and you know, dragg him down. And two
big fellas are laying in like a hockey fight. Now
get him off and lay on top and protect it
and talk trash. I love it. It tells me my
team's intense and ready to go battle somebody else. You
just get tired of beating on each other. Man you
just do. And there's the frustration of you're a linebacker.
You're getting blocked, and you're getting blocked again and blocked again,

(47:46):
and then you get to the ball carry and you
can't drag him to the ground because they tell you
not to, and so that frustration. So he you take
it out of the guard who kind of finally comes up.
You throw a forearm to his chest, like right when
the play's over. He turns around, hits you, and before
you know what you're fighting. It's offense versus defense. But
it tell me a team I would be hard pressed
to find it to if you don't fight somehow with
among your teammates. Now, the great thing about it is

(48:08):
you don't carry it into the locker room. You're not
kicking a guy in his na It's just good. It's like, okay,
let's go in and it usually ends up harmless. You
don't want anybody to get hurt. But I go in
as a coaching. You know, they go and say, okay,
we are ready now. Now it tells me this whole
training camp and some teams fight. I've been on teams
it felt like we fought every day. I mean because

(48:29):
those personal I was like, no, we're fighting every day
as long as nobody gets hurt. And yeah, that's the risk.
It's a good thing. I'd rather have a team that
fights every day. That I got to stand up as
my head coach and addressing you idiots. I love your intensity,
but stop it. We're on the same team. But deep
down you're like, I love the fire. You know, a
safety Rodney Harrison was great at that. Dude, receivers coming,

(48:51):
he'd just give you a little extra hit. It's like,
we're not gonna have any players left. Dude, you keep
doing this, But it get back up and they fight
and they love each other. Amps over but it's the
they're tired of beating on each other. So when teams fight,
as long as it's not to the point where it's personal,
it's personal during the fight, but you get over it
and you go back in, and that's the key a
coach that can get them to it's okay. It doesn't matter.

(49:14):
It's just and it's really not who the guy is.
It's just there on the opposite side of the wall
we're fighting. Once you get to that, I know my
team's usually ready. I'll bet you we go through. You
think that Andy Reids Kansey, the Chiefs aren't fighting somebody Buffalo.
You don't think the Philadelphia Eagles on the field Lane
Johnson's fighting a pass rusher because he's holding and then

(49:35):
the other guy's head slaping, I mean, and then they
hug afterwards, say that was a good fight.

Speaker 1 (49:39):
We all judge those.

Speaker 9 (49:40):
When Joey Browner got into a fight on a practice
field with US in Minnesota or a USC as he
was a teammate in both, if he came running from
the secondary as a fight broke out of the line,
guess how quickly the fight broke up. There's forty sevens
running from the secondary black belt, all that stuff and
beats to a different drum. It's probably best that you
say that's in this fight now, because if he gets
a pause on, it's a bad thing.

Speaker 1 (50:01):
Right now.

Speaker 9 (50:02):
Everybody has one of those guys, and or more than one.
But it's the sign of intensity is important to me.

Speaker 8 (50:08):
Who's out there delivering a roundhouse kick that's browner again.

Speaker 1 (50:12):
What can we say?

Speaker 9 (50:13):
We're grateful that Joey didn't have to revert to that
because enough people had describbled by the time he came around,
said Nah, we're going to leave this one alone.

Speaker 1 (50:19):
Man, guy's delivered a hell of a trump kick right there,
by the way.

Speaker 9 (50:22):
My prayers, my prayers to Joey under the rate Tomm
Kramer and the group in Minnesota raising money. Everything they
sell like jersey stuff is forty something bucks. Joey's going
through a few health issues right now, and he's he's
he is a phenomenal dude and a great player. I
think he's underrated the in the big scheme of things.
But if you say a prayer and you pray to

(50:43):
somebody you believe in that, you're still a prayer for
whoever you are. If you can you know, for those
that need it. And Joey's going through some a few
issues and he and Keith were both teammates of mine
at SC and Joey in Minnesota.

Speaker 1 (50:54):
Love the guy and what a great player. Hey, you
hear that.

Speaker 9 (50:57):
Yep, he's going well, he's tough enough to overcome it,
but he's struggling. So if you're if you're so inclined,
you said, I'd like a Joey Brown pop on there,
go to Tommy Kramer on Twitter and they they're they'ble
to have stuff that comes up there, make a bit
on something and you'll be helping Joey, you know, and
some medical costs and stuff.

Speaker 1 (51:15):
He's a he's a good man.

Speaker 8 (51:18):
Well, definitely thinking about him. Definitely gonna check that out,
try to help out any way we can for sure.
All Right, this is a episode of Farmers Don't Mess
Around And it's a story that Sean, I'm sure you're
really going to enjoy and.

Speaker 1 (51:33):
I think the audience will too as well. We'll talk
about it here.

Speaker 8 (51:35):
It is Sean Salisbury Show on a Western Wednesday, Sports
Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 9 (51:40):
Hey, guys, sort of pro painters sort of with a
C surtopro dot com for your free estimate. Home and
business are expensive, you guys, will you own them or
you run them?

Speaker 1 (51:50):
You know?

Speaker 9 (51:51):
And if they're gonna be expensive, you might as well
protect them with the quality painting a sort of Pro painters,
because I know this that we talk about curb appeal,
with your.

Speaker 1 (52:00):
Landscaping, what have you.

Speaker 9 (52:01):
If you're selling a home, make sure it's painted right
because he could be a great home. But if it
looks eh, you're like, no, not interested. I know I
would be as a buyer. If you're keeping it for you, you
want to make it look good. You want the curve
appeal inside. You want it to match the couch. Oh
and the change. If the price is right, which it is.
At the customer service, they're local, they're timely, they're in

(52:21):
and out ninja like at sert of Pro Painters. But
they do it right, then why wouldn't you. I've done
it in a handful of times. I was a customer
first at sort of Pro Painters and they've helped the interior,
an exterior, and as I've said before, I'm getting my
whole home painted and cert of pros the only one
will do it. I'm a di wire, but not when
it comes to getting it done the exact way I
want it, efficient and quick so I can be free
to do some other stuff.

Speaker 1 (52:41):
That's who sort of pro is.

Speaker 9 (52:42):
So whether it's your business or your home interior exterior,
cert of pro's gonna do it right. You can go
to sertipro dot com for your free estimate. Listen, they
do paint happy. The reason why is because they know
they're doing a good job. And while nobody's perfect in anything,
they're about as damn close as I've ever seen. And
when they left my home it was like, I don't
need you back for a while, because now it looks

(53:04):
better and it looks different in the right way, efficient,
the best. It's sortapro dot com for your free estimate.
It's sort of what they see, sorta pro painters each
and every sort of pro business, individually owned and operated
sort of pro painters. Curtapro dot com for that free estimate.
Sort of pro painters. That's painting Happy.

Speaker 1 (53:23):
Let the celebration start.

Speaker 4 (53:24):
War Sean Salisbury, it's a Seawan Salisbury show.

Speaker 1 (53:33):
All right, Sean?

Speaker 2 (53:34):
What are you hearing out there now?

Speaker 4 (53:36):
The Salisbury's takeout, Salisbury's takeout on the Sean Salisbury Show.

Speaker 8 (53:45):
We do it every day at this time here on
the Sewn Salisbury Show. We're staking out here on a
Western Wednesday. Astros seven three winners last night in Miami
over the Marlins, go for the sweep this afternoon and
the Texans another day of this there for training camp
at the Greenbrier. Work today, work tomorrow, then head out
to Minnesota for Saturday against the Vikings preseason opener. Sean

(54:09):
squatters A lot of people not huge fans of them. Well,
for this one we go Dateline France, the French countryside there,
farmers over there, you know, doing much more than just
grapes everything else for wine, even though French wine it
is quite good.

Speaker 1 (54:26):
I mean, you know, I think most of us have
gotten to enjoy it. Well.

Speaker 8 (54:30):
In this case, it was a traveling group of Gypsies
that decided to camp themselves on farmers land there in
France and told numerous times, hey, you guys got to go,
like you can't be here, take off, you gotta go,
not going anywhere. So finally it got to a point

(54:51):
where a civil court there in France decided that yep,
they're not allowed to be there. It's not their property
they need to leave, and they were told that they
had twenty four hours or else they're going to face
police intervention and fines for around around five hundred of
them in two hundred caravans that were there on the

(55:13):
land in France. So that didn't really seem to work.
So finally the French farmer or farmers in this case,
because there were numerous ones, decided it's time for us
to go ahead and deliver some farmer justice right here.
So they loaded up their tractors with sprayers, and the
sprayers had manure bingo, so they started. Didn't go around saying, hey,

(55:40):
you might think that we already did the fertilization thing
that coming up in about October November that's gonna be
harvest season. Well guess what, We're gonna speed up harvest
season right now, and you guys are going to be
the ones getting harvested by getting sprayed.

Speaker 9 (55:55):
I want you to think about this for a second.
First of all, I loved it. I saw video. I
didn't know what we were going to talk about the say
I saw video of it. I thought, good on you
and the these squatters are trying to jump onto the
trucks and stuff keep spraying.

Speaker 1 (56:05):
I'm like a like a day.

Speaker 9 (56:06):
I'm skunk would right, we can't get the smell off you, dude, I.

Speaker 1 (56:12):
No question off.

Speaker 9 (56:16):
I have zero respect for squatters and I have zero
respect for people in communities or in states that let
it happen. How does a squatter have more rights than
the owner of a home? So literally, Dan Well, in
like a place like California place, if you left on
a month vacation, I didn't have somebody watch your home.
And somebody got in there and they establish it, you

(56:39):
know that you can they they can keep your home. Yeah,
I'm not telling you anything.

Speaker 5 (56:44):
You don't know.

Speaker 1 (56:44):
It's kind of rhetorical.

Speaker 9 (56:45):
But my point is, how I that's one of the
greatest what's the word? I'm looking for the greatest, the
most baffling things in society that I know about all
the time and effort you've been with. Somebody can live
in a home thirty years and grandparents go in some
state and go visit They've got five kids and twenty grandkids,

(57:06):
and they going on that circuit where they're stopping and
visit all their kids. And if they get back and
somebody's been living in there, they I come back to
my house and you're in it, and I ask you
to get out and you don't, and you're inside the house.

Speaker 1 (57:20):
You're getting shot.

Speaker 9 (57:22):
Okay, I'm just telling you, Sean, that's violent.

Speaker 1 (57:26):
Yep, it sure is.

Speaker 9 (57:27):
And you invading my violence is my home that I'm
paying the mortgage for and spend a lifetime trying to
get ready, and we all try. You know, hell, no,
this isn't your house. Well you know what you were
gone from, yep, I sure was. And now you're still
here now a little bit doctor. That's exactly right, and
you're in mind. See, I won't say you squatted here
if somebody comes and knocks on my door and say

(57:48):
that squat or they have rights. When you're dead, you
don't get to defend yourself anymore. And then they're gonna
drag you out. And I'm going to say that person
broke in when my family is here, to put my
family in danger. Yep, And so they gotta. They took
a glock seventeen to the forehead.

Speaker 1 (58:05):
Sean.

Speaker 9 (58:06):
That's you damn right. It's violent, don't I'm just telling
you now. They can ask all the questions they want
later if you squat at my house and you're in
the house and I've asked you to leave, change life,
and you're still there. I got news for you. You're
doing nice thing. Well, first of all, I'm probably good.
First off, I'm gonna turn my bully loose on you.

(58:26):
That's the first one. I'm gonna take it out of
my hands. And if you're able to survive that, then
then you're gonna be You're gonna be wearing nine millimeter dude.

Speaker 1 (58:36):
I'm just telling you. I just do that. So I know.

Speaker 9 (58:38):
That's kind of funny how they sprayed minor get them off.
There's like, wasn't there like a hundred plus of them
on that five hundred? Well five, okay, so there's five
hundred plus. I'm like, that's an army. Okay, I'm doing
the same thing. And now, hey, you guys all want
to come to dinner after I spray, Yeah, come on
to dinner.

Speaker 1 (58:57):
Now, make sure you work your way into my home.
I don't know what france Is rules.

Speaker 9 (59:00):
Are, and boom boom, boom boo boom, get out, get
off my property.

Speaker 1 (59:03):
I'm gonna run your ass over.

Speaker 9 (59:05):
I just I've never that's one of the the how
did the real estate world and laws come up with
I can go to your house, Dan when you're gone,
and I can squat at your house, and in two
months you come back. I guess we're fighting because now
it's mine. No, it's not yours. Yet you're the one
who's responsible for it. Well, the people who enforce those laws.

Speaker 8 (59:24):
I always it always cracks me up of you know,
Oh well, you know, think about those people's circumstances. Okay,
well how about you have them at your house, have
them have them at your place if you're so compassionate.
Because guess what, maybe I'm not as compassionate as you are.
And that's my decision, that's my right.

Speaker 9 (59:39):
I'm very compassionate for homeless and people go through it. Sure,
I've housed a homeless person for six years. You've got
the child. Regardless of that. The point is is that
I'm just listen. I understand you're a squatter. I hate
to tell you this. I don't care about your circumstances. Now,
if you knock on my door and say you need something,
I'll be happy to help you. But now you've invaded

(01:00:02):
my space and you've come in and they didn't invade it.
With with with peace and mind they invaded it to
take over if somebody did that.

Speaker 1 (01:00:09):
No, I'm just telling you.

Speaker 9 (01:00:10):
That's why these people who post they're going out of
town for two months excuse me, and they know where
you live. That's just don't be dumb. I know this
was this meant to be funny and stuff because it is.
How they've sprayed manure on him. But dude, that's one
of the craziest things in my life that I still
am baffled with that they have that they have right. No,
you don't have a right, although they say to. But

(01:00:32):
I also have the right if you're in my home,
especially if it's a he said, she said, if you
ain't getting out by the third time, there won't be
a fourth Sean. That's violent, yep, sure is, but it's
also smart because you're not getting my home.

Speaker 1 (01:00:44):
Yeah, screw you, man. What's mine is mine. That's exactly right.

Speaker 9 (01:00:47):
And if you need something needed to ride, I'll be
happy to help you all entertain taking care of whatever
we get you whatever, no problem. I'm compassionate that you
decide you think that's your place where I'm paying the mortgage.
Oh no, And if you're sitting inside the house, well,
you're probably wearing something that you need a suit of
armor to defend and and it won't work well for you.

Speaker 1 (01:01:09):
Noah, yeah, my house.

Speaker 9 (01:01:11):
No, but I'm gonna let my I'm gonna let my
bully at least introduce you to what it's like to
waltz in to a house it's not yours.

Speaker 8 (01:01:19):
Uh oh you think this is your house? Is this
your dog? Well, guess what you're about to find. Yeah,
do you know the dog's name? Introduce yourself. Do you
believe in God?

Speaker 1 (01:01:27):
Yes?

Speaker 9 (01:01:28):
Good, because you're about to meet him. Okay, so there
you go. Yeah, that whole squatters thing, and somebody out
there's listening saying, oh, how dare you squatters?

Speaker 5 (01:01:37):
Have it?

Speaker 1 (01:01:37):
No they don't. They may have. Then you invited you
can have in your home. They could squat with you.

Speaker 9 (01:01:43):
Want to come over for dinner, Fine, but when dinner's over,
get your ass out, just like I tell a friend,
go take a ass home. You don't live here, get
a place to stay for a couple of days. You're great,
don't squat at my house and expect something. It says
that won't end. Well, it's always those fun social cues.

Speaker 8 (01:01:56):
All right, man, Hey, we're winding down head. You know
you you get on the ride, Uber is about to
be here. Oh yeah, no, you're not staying, is what
I'm telling you.

Speaker 9 (01:02:05):
Yeah, it's I'm going to the sheep's got it early morning.
That means wrap it up, dude, finish your drink and
get in the Uber, or have the person who didn't
drink get ready to get the keys.

Speaker 8 (01:02:13):
Let's get start, or it's gathering your stuff. The preemptive
to the preemptive. Like if I see friends of mine
starting to clean up, I'm like, hey, you know, let's
let's scramble the uber.

Speaker 1 (01:02:22):
Let's let's get out of here. No, no, no, you
guys could stay. No, you're cleaning up. That's the queue.
That's the queue, and it's time to leave.

Speaker 9 (01:02:29):
Yeah, you've been here for nine hours watching foot but
you can go home now. Yeah, I'll see I'll see
you next Saturday.

Speaker 1 (01:02:35):
I got Big ten after dark to watch, okay, agreed.

Speaker 9 (01:02:39):
Yeah, So that that squatting thing, dude gets in that
that you want to see Big twelve drives me nuts now.
And the fact that we actually have places that the
squatter's got more rights than you do as a homeowner.
Just another thing about our country. That's absolutely baffling. You
wonder why people in said areas decide, Hey, Texas sounds good.
Can you imagine somebody company you say, well, you don't

(01:03:01):
have compassion for Oklahoma their circumstances. You mean the eight
people that moved into my home while I was on vacation.
You mean, does New Mexico sound yeah, exactly. Well how's
Arkansas sounds a koa camp?

Speaker 5 (01:03:12):
You know?

Speaker 9 (01:03:13):
Those camps are the ones they used to be like
they were like the camping grounds, the Motel six camping grounds. Right,
you go out there, here's a tent. Yeah, okay, you
can stay here. I'll give you whatever you need. This
is not your home.

Speaker 1 (01:03:26):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (01:03:27):
Hey that airstream right there, Good, it's yours. You'll tow
it out there for you, but I'm coming back to
get it. You could borrow it.

Speaker 1 (01:03:34):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (01:03:35):
So no, I I just I just have a major issue.
I'm I'm sure a lot of people feel the way.
I'm not the house to squad at.

Speaker 1 (01:03:42):
No. No, I'm with you too.

Speaker 8 (01:03:45):
I mean, you know, just went out of town not
too long ago, and that was something that I was
about to post something don't and then I was like,
wait a minute.

Speaker 9 (01:03:53):
If you do, you make sure. Yeah, it's just it's
it's silly. Yeah, I just celebrate that part in silence, right,
uber driver, Oh you guys going out of town. I'm
just taking her to the airport. Note, I'm coming right
back all the time. I'm with you one hundred percent. No,
i just got to run a quick air and I'll
be right back. I'm always there. I'm always there. And

(01:04:17):
if I'm not, I'm still there. Yeah, say you'll know, Yeah,
you'll I'm on vacation. The eyes are still upon you.
And don't stay in my house.

Speaker 1 (01:04:24):
There you go.

Speaker 9 (01:04:24):
Yeah, Mikasa is not sue Ca. That's a fact.

Speaker 8 (01:04:29):
Two five, seven ninety is the number to get in
the Astros discussion. Let's get back into it. Because those bats,
those bats, those bats, boy, they were swinging last night.

Speaker 1 (01:04:38):
We love to see it.

Speaker 9 (01:04:39):
Talk about it here, Shawn Salisbury Show Sports SOX seven ninety.
Who I think about this? Paint Paint a picture for yourself.
How many of us look and say, man, I'd love
that vehicle? All right, Man, I gotta get a new truck.
I gotta get a new suv. And then you take
a look and say, okay, well, let me see what
the average price for buying a vehicle is, and then
you see the number forty eight thousand dollars on average,

(01:05:01):
which used to be what you'd get for a luxury vehicle,
and you're like.

Speaker 1 (01:05:04):
Oh, hell no, what's the down payment on that?

Speaker 12 (01:05:07):
Oh?

Speaker 9 (01:05:07):
What are the month what are the monthly payments that
I'm and I'm committed for seven years because that's all
I can afford. I gotta stretch out the loan for
the monthly payment. Well, let's get that fixed and dnm
audo leasing. Dnm audo leasing can help fix that with
easy lease. Gonna take out all the stress of doing it,
fix the payments to where the payments are lower.

Speaker 1 (01:05:28):
Isn't that the object of this? Lower payments? And here's
the kicker.

Speaker 9 (01:05:32):
How many times you saying, man, I can afford the payments,
but man alive the money down you want? They want
five ten thousand dollars whatever it is? Nope, easy lease,
that's easy lease, dnm audo leasing. Lower monthly payments, get
you established properly and no money down.

Speaker 1 (01:05:51):
Now, isn't that what you want?

Speaker 9 (01:05:52):
When you're going in forty eight thousand dollars the average
vehicle you're purchasing. How about not being married to a
seven year loan and leasing that out and going through
dnm Audo Leasing to find the vehicle you want with
great customer service. Been in business, what feels like forever
dominating the market?

Speaker 1 (01:06:07):
Why?

Speaker 9 (01:06:08):
No money down, easy lease, lower monthly payments, and then
you get the vehicle you want. That's the way it's
supposed to be. It's d and M auto Leasing. So
go to dmauto leasing dot com and do some shopping
and I think you're gonna be really happy with easylease,
lower monthly payments, no money down, dn m Audo Leasing.
That's d M auto Leasing dot com. The Shawn Salisbury

(01:06:34):
Show continues.

Speaker 8 (01:06:37):
Before they head out to Minnesota for the preseason opener
against the Vikings. Tripoli telling me in my ear that
request for a bump back was by John who wanted
to hear that. So there we go a little bit.
There is a cross section now of you know, hip
hop and country where you know you'll you'll have like
I think probably what the first country music crossover was

(01:06:59):
Tim McGraw with Nelly.

Speaker 1 (01:07:01):
It's all in my head.

Speaker 9 (01:07:04):
Maybe I don't know date the timeline of it, but
maybe because I mean You've got a lot of that
now though, because I mean it was well, yeah, now
now it's I mean almost regularly any album where it's
you know, oh hey, you know, fifty cents on with somebody,
or Lil Wayne's on with somebody who knew but yeah,
Luke colmbs and was doing something with with Emin m Mers. Right,
you just well look at it. Look at all the collabs. Uh,

(01:07:27):
what's my guy's name with the actor to does a
commercial with uh with your boy Hillis as well the
beer commercial oh uh post Malone, yeah, post Malone exactly,
post Malone, dude.

Speaker 1 (01:07:39):
Post World Link.

Speaker 8 (01:07:39):
Was funny enough, right, They're like, hey, what was it
like to work with post Malone?

Speaker 1 (01:07:43):
Well, I didn't know him before the movie.

Speaker 9 (01:07:46):
At Vert will never forget his day because Vernon remembers
everybody's day is post Malone feels like he's on every
collab on the planet. It doesn't matter what genre you're from.
But it's cool. So yeah, I love it, Matt, I
love it. And then I mean, what kind of cuts cut?

Speaker 8 (01:08:00):
John suggested what kind of got the genre crossover going
years ago was remember when Walk This Way came out
with Run DMC and Aerosmith.

Speaker 9 (01:08:07):
And everybody was like, oh my gosh, like two genres
they can work together. Yeah, they can, and then they
can put together They had no question about it.

Speaker 8 (01:08:17):
Absolutely, But stros last night speaking of hits able to
deliver them in the win over the Marlins. I mean,
how many times to Sean, you know, not only had
we been talking about, hey, bats carry this team, and
even with the performance last night from aj blue Ball,
Yeah I heard the voice voice crack.

Speaker 1 (01:08:36):
You don't have to tell me.

Speaker 8 (01:08:38):
But even after that, you get the two run homer
from L two VA to get things started. And again,
I mean you've had Joe a spot a numerous times,
say let's get that early lead, take the pressure off
our young guy, you know, maybe even a starter that
is somebody that's not Hunter Brown or from er Valdez
and let them settle in.

Speaker 9 (01:08:59):
And that hell, last night it has to write. Yeah,
we've talked about that. Much easier to miss a pitch
or get away with something when you're up five or six,
as opposed to you're a young guy grinding and trying
to you know, trying to send a message not only
the other team but to your coaching staff and your
players about the trust that I've talked about in every sport,

(01:09:19):
and you got yourself a lead to work with, and
then you're not getting too fine and too cute, and
then you just you pitch, You don't throw, you pitch
and let it rip. And how many of us always
been there when you know, okay, this is good and
you just, dude, when you put it this way, we
make three birdies in a row, orre you worried about
the fourth hold? Or you feel pretty good about it

(01:09:40):
going pretty good? And if you make a boge, guess
what you've just done? I mean a nice to have
four birdies, but doesn't happen very often. Right, Oh, I'm
good because guess what those three birdies have got me?
A five stroke cleat on my playing partner that we're
betting twenty bucks a hole right right? And it's okay,
he got one, but he's still in a chase mode.
I still have some from room to play.

Speaker 1 (01:10:01):
It's the same. There's no different here, is it.

Speaker 13 (01:10:03):
Oh?

Speaker 9 (01:10:03):
Okay, you get out and jump out in front. And
what a novel concept that for? About what's seventeen eighteen
or whatever it was fifteen sixteen games a row that
the Astros had let the opponent jump out front, and
a lot of times it doesn't end well right, and
they've they've done a great job from the majority of
the years, winning close games, one run games, and staving.

Speaker 1 (01:10:23):
Off the long losing streaks.

Speaker 9 (01:10:24):
You know, Sands a couple of these before the All
Star break in this three gamer with the Red Sox,
but they've seemed always respondible. When you get a young
staff and you're in an opener like that, it's nice
to have some leeway so the guy doesn't feel like
every pitch has to be a strike, and then you
start living in the zone and not fooling people. That's
how you get yourself pulled. Did you notice a good idea,

(01:10:45):
a good good job on all of them in blue
ball to get five solid? Do you notice last night
there was a slider that was it was a ball
low and away and Jiner Diaz took it for a
ball and blumber immediately, Hey, look at that, like on
the TV side he and TK he goes look at that,
shows that he's seeing it like that's That's something that

(01:11:06):
we've been talking about too, because how many times this
year we've seen you know, hey, would you like to
buy a val oruld you like to take a spin
in yiner, he's taking a spin right and well meaningful
at bat and that and when the broadcaster and Blommers
pointed out, like, oh did this the visuals a little
different on this one? It does matter and maybe he's
you know, and I was listening to it wasn't even

(01:11:28):
that the astros we won't playing. I can't remember what
I was watching the other day, but was talking about, oh,
you know, it was actually the golf event getting themselves
to the to be able to play in this FedEx
Cup these next three tournaments, right for twenty plus mil.
And he said, you never know as a golfer or
an athlete, which one's going to turn your game around?

(01:11:49):
What Birdie, what bogie? Which one's going to turn you
around and kick you in? And it could be a
negative thing that kicks you in, right. It made a
double bogie for Scheffler when he does that. Then he
goes on and makes Bertie Birdie Bertie for the mere mortal.
He's like, I got to fight through. Now what do
I do now? And you start gripping. But he made
a point, somebody made. Bertie Berdy said, Okay, maybe this
is what springboards him too. They might even been a

(01:12:11):
Max Homa who's was on the cusp right right, and
those things bat and it's no different there. All of
a sudden, you're saying, I don't know what happened, but
the ball looked a little bigger. I saw it. It
was off the strike zone. I feel pretty good about
this right now, right So, yeah, you never know when
it's happened for a team or an individual, but when
it does, it's pretty joyful.

Speaker 5 (01:12:30):
Man.

Speaker 9 (01:12:30):
We've all been there in some part of our life.
We're like, Okay, it's going and you know at some
point that part's going to end and you got to
restart it. And you know if it's going bad, at
some point that's gonna end and you're gonna start going good.
The key is to bring them closer together so they
don't happen and there's not extremes. But boy, wouldn't be
a joy if Diaz and Walker were heating up with

(01:12:50):
the power bats as you started to roll through August
and by the time September hitting Jordan's back in that
that middle of your lineup, which we've discussed a million times,
is not formidable but scary. Yeah, pretty good. In Korea,
adding to it hitting the ball hard. This team, it's
like you're standing on a field. There's just one more
step to take, which means three or four bodies getting healthy.

(01:13:12):
But when the injury bug's done, and hopefully sooner than later.
And I know that's glass half full stuff, but I'm
trying to visualize a lineup like that, and it's really
it's a clear picture of what it's going to look
like to opposing pitchers if you're right, and then what
it's gonna look like the hitters when you get Spencer
and and and Javier back doing their thing. I want

(01:13:33):
the problem of who's sitting out this one. We need
that problem here because they haven't had it all year long.

Speaker 1 (01:13:39):
No, they've not.

Speaker 8 (01:13:40):
I don't think Joe Aspota is counting down those days
fast enough to be able to get to that point
where it's, oh man, that's too many guys that I
can't get in the game today.

Speaker 1 (01:13:49):
That's a bad problem to have.

Speaker 9 (01:13:51):
Well, in this case, it's a great problem to have,
and that's what the Astros hoping.

Speaker 1 (01:13:54):
They can have.

Speaker 8 (01:13:55):
One of the guys though that they picked up during
the trade deadline, I think is already paying immediate divots,
and we will talk about them here as it is
the Sean Salisbury Show on a Western Wednesday Sports Talk
seven ninety. But first, I do want to tell you
what I've been telling you, and that is about my
friends over at Centergenics and the Low T Center.

Speaker 1 (01:14:17):
I mean, I'll go ahead and say it.

Speaker 8 (01:14:18):
They've changed my life and they've changed the lives of
many men across the country over the last decade because
TRT testosterone replacement therapy, it is a real thing. It's
helped me get my energy back. It's even enforced the
confidence that maybe I thought I had, but now I
truly believe that I have it. And also too, everything
in my life is better in terms of energy and

(01:14:41):
fighting off the mood swings, all of those different things.

Speaker 1 (01:14:44):
But how about the women out there? Women? Can I
talk to you for a second, because.

Speaker 8 (01:14:47):
Did you know that hormonal imbalances that you experience, well,
you know, maybe they are the same as the ones
that men can experience with low testosterone. And we guys,
well we know exactly how frustrating that can be get.
In the Cynergenics Low T Center either one many locations
around here in Houston, and they can help you balance

(01:15:09):
your life and get things back in order with HRT,
just like the men with TRT in Center at home
patient care. Also most insurance options are accepted. Fixmilow t
dot com. That's fixmilow T dot com and get in
there to Cynergenics Low T Center and get things back

(01:15:30):
on track for you in your life.

Speaker 1 (01:15:31):
I've said it numerous times.

Speaker 8 (01:15:33):
I had shot number three a couple of days ago,
still feeling great from it. So I've got three more
weeks before we go back in for another game plan.

Speaker 1 (01:15:41):
Try to figure things out then.

Speaker 8 (01:15:42):
And also everything is on the right track for me,
getting a lot better in terms of the energy, the drive,
all of those things that maybe I was lacking before
I went into Centergenics and low T Center.

Speaker 1 (01:15:55):
Fixmloaw t dot com.

Speaker 8 (01:15:57):
That's fixmilow t dot com for Centergenics and the low Center.

Speaker 2 (01:16:03):
The Salisbury Show continues.

Speaker 1 (01:16:08):
Yeah, you're right, and we we did.

Speaker 9 (01:16:09):
We drop trash off at the street just exactly. Yes,
they are good cut though. The way get you in
your fields if you kids or your parents. Yeah, because
my dad we had a three on the trail and
we would load trash in the back and you would

(01:16:30):
take it to the dump if it was you know,
in construction, if you had a bunch of stuff too,
we drive it out and you put gloves on a
kid and you'd help you dad get out of the
thing's like oh again, but he'd let you drive. I
don't tell your mother, Yeah, don't tell your mom. I
remember the first song my dad let me drive. It
was down some like country road somewhere in Brenham or
somewhere like that, and he was like, all right, I'm
gonna let you drive now.

Speaker 1 (01:16:50):
That song will get you in your ss well that time.

Speaker 8 (01:16:53):
And then uh, I was listening to Y two Country
on satellite this morning, coming in and they had Kenny
Ches Don't Blink.

Speaker 9 (01:17:01):
That's another one, that that song is actually track around
when my dad passed away, that that song will actually
bring you to your eyes a water. If you're driving
alone down the street you start singing that cut or
listening to I would that you're exactly. That's a life sense.

Speaker 1 (01:17:16):
It's so true.

Speaker 9 (01:17:16):
We're gonna when we come back, we need need to
get to maybe the eight fifteen or whatever. We do
need mixing a little not to get people in their fields.
But we don't start crying and have people heading in
the worst.

Speaker 1 (01:17:28):
I'm hung hop for the world. But tell me, well,
your face is a little swollen.

Speaker 14 (01:17:32):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (01:17:33):
They played this cut on show, stung by a bee
in the front seat. That sounds crying my eyes out,
but like the daddy, let me drive out. That was
that's a good It's got some energy and dry.

Speaker 1 (01:17:43):
Yeah. Well, Alan Jackson, he's tremendous. He really is.

Speaker 10 (01:17:46):
He really is.

Speaker 1 (01:17:47):
He's great.

Speaker 9 (01:17:47):
And you know the whole crew down there, Jason Alden,
everybody there in the Great State of Georgia.

Speaker 8 (01:17:53):
But uh, anyway, enough from mister President the Astros to
make fun of all our politicians.

Speaker 1 (01:18:00):
Course of course, there you go. Yeah, it's all in
good fun.

Speaker 8 (01:18:02):
You know, there's there's many different ways we could go,
and as the course of time goes, I'm sure probably
we'll share him with you. But Stros beat the Marlins
there in Miami last night, seven to three. They're gonna
go for a sweep this afternoon. Look forward to that.
Hopefully they can accomplish that. The Texans on the practice
field training camp at the Greenbrier and they're gonna work
today tomorrow, then they're gonna head out to Minnesota. Saturday's

(01:18:25):
preseason opener. But the Astros, I mean, we mentioned it's
in the last segments about how janer Diez, Christian Walker,
Jose Altuve able to get some things going.

Speaker 1 (01:18:38):
What about Jesus Sanchez?

Speaker 8 (01:18:40):
Man, you want to talk about a guy that does
not get cheated when he takes a half?

Speaker 9 (01:18:44):
Freaking love it, dude. That power bat's gonna get some
in bunches at some point too.

Speaker 1 (01:18:48):
I love it.

Speaker 8 (01:18:48):
He seems like it like it seems like once he
gets back to dyke In Park, he'll put a couple
over the right field wall and it's like.

Speaker 1 (01:18:54):
All right, yeah, hey, there it is.

Speaker 8 (01:18:56):
And the way he swings the bat, I'd say, if
you're in that second deck, you better be paying attention.

Speaker 1 (01:19:01):
He might be sending one your direction. Well, who was
it was it?

Speaker 5 (01:19:04):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (01:19:05):
Who described it? Do we heard that?

Speaker 9 (01:19:07):
Maybe I was watching a show or maybe it was
a guest on here was it aj Prisentsk that talked
about Maybe it wasn't a I can't remember, but prodigious
power is how he was described the flow.

Speaker 1 (01:19:18):
Well, that's exactly right. I think it was flowing.

Speaker 9 (01:19:20):
You got some prodigious power and he does, so he
starts to get it that bet on square, that fat
part of the bat up, it's going to be really
really good to see. And a left handed bat that
they needed that's versatile in the outfield. Important for sure.

Speaker 1 (01:19:33):
For sure.

Speaker 8 (01:19:33):
We'll talk that much more to in about an hour
and a half, when Dana Brown joined us for his
weekly visit, Sheena John see all right there working into
the conversation. You want to join him? Seven one three

To USC Trops, longtime friend Shawn Salisbury.

Speaker 4 (01:23:10):
Dan MATTHEWSCU, Jesus, this is the Sean Salisbury Show.

Speaker 8 (01:23:19):
Astros, GM, Dana Brown gonna join us in a little
less than an hour and a half. Those same Stros

How about aj blue ball five innings, You only give

Another day of practice, work today, work tomorrow, then head

(01:23:39):

Someone three two, one, two, five seven ninety is the
number to get in talking the lineup, talking a little
bit of Jesus Sanchez, both part of the same group,
and also talking a little bit of aj blue Ball
what he did last night, and uh, don't forget too
Spencer Urghedti gonna be on the mound this afternoon, so

(01:24:02):

the show goes along too. But now it's time for
you to start doing the talking. At seven one three
two one two five seven ninety and Sheena wants to
lead us off this morning. Sheena, good morning, Hi, good morning.

Speaker 12 (01:24:19):
First, I want to give a big shout out to
Lamar Little League.

Speaker 1 (01:24:22):
Yes, yes, thank you for that. Yes, going back to
Williamsport for sure.

Speaker 12 (01:24:27):
Yeah, that's very excited. I think the last time there
on Williamsport was when Randall Gritchick was with them. So
my daughter's in that little league, so she's very excited
watching all those games and just yeah, that's a big deal.
So it's been great to watch them. Especially so of
those games you're out there seeing like a pitcher that's
twelve years old at six foot two, it's like, oh

(01:24:49):
my gosh, it's like what are y'all feeding your kids?
But but yeah, so first give a big shout out
to them, and big congratulations and big support to all
of those parents that you know, because I know that's
a big commitment to the parents as well. Secondly, I
wanted to ask y'all's opinion a little bit, so, you know,
Diez's bat starting to heat up a little bit, but

(01:25:11):
at the same time, I feel like him behind the
plate is getting a little sloppy. I feel like some
of those ones, you know, I know some of them
are being called as wild pitches, but it seems like
he should be grabbing them. And then had a few
more pass balls lately, and seems like ones on the
inside of his plate he's just like wiping his backhand
at There was one with blue ball yesterday where it

(01:25:32):
was the uh I think the first inning blue ball
was in and it was actually the third strike, and
then it didn't even seemed like initially he was hustling.
It seemed like he didn't realize at first that it
was the third strike. Luckily, the batter I don't think
realized it, either because he was slowgantting out of the
box or maybe he didn't realize he has missed it.
But it seems like as his batskin hot, his you know,
looks a little I don't know more slug is may

(01:25:54):
be more fatigued behind the plate. I'm not sure, so
I wanted to get yall's opinion on that, if y'all
are seeing any about it, and if you'll find that
all concerning as we get deeper into the season.

Speaker 8 (01:26:04):
Appreciate the call, Sheena. I mean, defensively, he is who
he's been all throughout his career. It's just when he
was hitting here. He's got to get better, but he does.
But when he was hitting nearly three hundred, you could
be able to stomach it a little bit. I mean
you forced yourself to because it was like you know,
robbed Peter and Paide Paul, I mean Mike Piazza for
all those years. He was an awful catcher, defensively terrible.

(01:26:26):
I actually have been playing first base his whole career.

Speaker 1 (01:26:27):
We right, you're.

Speaker 8 (01:26:29):
Exactly right, but it was, hey, we can stomachs posey,
you might give up a run here, but guess what.
We got a couple of guys on, well, he's gonna
put one over the wall, right, and we do we
haul pass it. If they've got something. You know, you're
you're you're you strike at a lot, but hit me
forty five home runs. Look at Hobby, Hobby Lopez all
those years. There's a reason why Greg Maddix said, Hey,
Eddie Perez, Yeah, I want to throw to him. Nothing

(01:26:50):
against you, Hobby, it's just I can trust that guy.
I can't really trust you. But Hobby could drive the
baseball into batleball. So yeah, so Shana from my vantage point,
and I don't want I don't want to put an
umbrella over all this. I think defensive catching is taking
a step back around the league. And here's what's gonna
happen all this, regardless if it's a one knee.

Speaker 5 (01:27:10):
Down or not.

Speaker 9 (01:27:10):
I'm not even just talking about that. But that's become
a problem for some And go talk to Smoltz. We
talk to people around baseball. It bothers them because it's you've, you've,
you've stuck on the back. And now some will argue new, well,
you can still pop and do you know your pop
time and throw it out fine, because you're using. The

(01:27:30):
problem is you cannot try it. You cannot shift your
weight when with one knee down like you can with Tony.

Speaker 1 (01:27:38):
You just can't. Who's teaching you that is?

Speaker 8 (01:27:39):
It's the same guys that tell you, hey, we're gonna
do this drill where you know you're gonna hop over
that wall.

Speaker 9 (01:27:44):
Then you're gonna like crouch down. I see it all
the time in quarterback trading brother a tire on the field.
Do we play with those on a Friday or Saturday?
You know, it's like, how about let's focus on the things.
Kurt Warner made a good point because I see it
all the time. Drop back in, a guy will scramble you.
They'll have a guy in a drill. He scrambling around
for like eight minutes, it feels like, and then he
throws a ball. The NFL's old school. When it comes out,

(01:28:08):
he likes, you know, anything that'll enhance. But Letter says, listen,
can I please ask you guys are training quarterbacks to quit,
no play last state minutes or what? You know what
I'm saying The emphasis on re said it goes it's quick, reset,
boom out. You don't hold the ball that long. Everything
I try to do is to simulate real football anyway.
And Warner, who's phenomenal at it, right, and so it's

(01:28:30):
the same thing here. You can't there's certain things that
you're giving up to get. Now, what's gonna happen with
all this work people are putting on on framing. Number
one is and it is a fact. If you and
and Dibble and I were talking about this on another show,
I do. It's a fact. You keep trying to level
up and square up frame pitches that are non competitive strikes.

(01:28:51):
You're basically humiliating the umpire. It doesn't it's not gonna work.
It doesn't work well for you. I understand competitive pitches,
But what's gonna happen when you have electronics streck down
all those time you put in of dropping down on
new two knees and using the chest protector instead of
just reaching in backhanded. Imagine if they did that as
a on a on a routine ground or at you
if a shortstop did that on a regular basis.

Speaker 1 (01:29:12):
Oh, I think I'll be a little late to it
and try to backhand it.

Speaker 9 (01:29:14):
How many times is going to hit off the inside
of your you know, your wrist and all those things
on a bad hop. I understand that some like it
with nobody on base I get it. But even then
the pitcher doesn't like it because it's still registers. Is
a Oh that's a path that that's a wild pitch.
But really, if you're doing it the right way, that
out of the strikes, you're gonna go down and get

(01:29:35):
that right.

Speaker 1 (01:29:35):
So I understand one.

Speaker 9 (01:29:37):
Part of it, the framing part, but we have taken
framing to such a new level of trying moving your
glove of foot stop it. You're telling the empire, your
your your your horse's ass right, and in turn you're
not getting You're not going to get the call if
you do, so i'm with First of all, defense hasn't
been ninor strength period anyway, that's not been in and

(01:29:57):
it never will.

Speaker 1 (01:29:58):
That's exactly right.

Speaker 9 (01:29:59):
But you can improve even though you may not get
to Johnny Bench or Pudge Rodriguez or or any of
the guys that we would consider wow factor defensive catchers
who can swing the bat buster posey, but you can
make it better. And a pitching staff I'm sure while
they understand the framing part of it, there's it's got
to be a beat down seeing balls. It should be

(01:30:20):
the elementary school stuff that you learned in the seventh
grade that you got a knock down, you got to
and when we get that, because eventually we're getting that
strike that the elector aren't we dan. Aren't we eventually
going to get the electronics share we are? So what
happens then, guess what? You got to go back to
the old basic mechanics of guys throwing balls at it,
and you're not on one knee down, because if you're

(01:30:40):
going to do that, the framing won't matter.

Speaker 1 (01:30:43):
It's just like I.

Speaker 8 (01:30:44):
Remember there was a pass ball that ended up being
the difference in the game, and I heard the catcher
afterwards try to explain. He goes, well, you know, I've
got a different way of catching. I'm like, why do
you have a different way of catching. It's receiving just
right there, frame the pitch, do whatever you need to do.
Receive the ball, catch the ball. That's the job.

Speaker 9 (01:31:02):
It's the number one job of the quarterback and center.
Get the snack first and then block. Yeah it now here,
it's keep the ball in front of you. I don't
care what your technique is. That other stuff can't happen.
That can't be secondary. That can't be the explanation. Just
from an elementary school standpoint, you're a right handed catcher thrower. Right,

(01:31:22):
you're setting up on the outer half out or third
of the plate, and you got your right knee out
guy misses with the cutter insider a two seamer. Now,
now think about the reach, even though it's going to
be the easy way because you're not backhanding as a catcher.
It's got this glove hand is your left hand, but
still that knees up. Imagine having to reach it. You're

(01:31:44):
you're just not gonna get the same as being able
to pounce and move laterally that you can and it
doesn't take a catching genius or a bench coach to
see it.

Speaker 1 (01:31:52):
She's right.

Speaker 9 (01:31:53):
And I'm telling you with base running at some point
in time through between now and then, not just here, anywhere,
and it already he has it's going to cost you.
And a passball, somebody's going to score from third on
a ball that would have normally been knocked down. And
she's one hundred percent correct, and it's driving. If you
got even a little old school in you, all this
new school stuff we do, there are certain things that

(01:32:14):
we stand the test of time. A pitcher that knows
how to throw strikes and a catcher that knows how
to keep the ball in front of him because his
technique is tremendous, and you can actually frame sitting in
a crouch. I understand the frame better, but you got
to be careful. Were teaching these young kids to frame,
and so they're framing pitches twelve inches outside of the strikes,
and it's like, stop it. If the UMP's calling that,

(01:32:36):
then that ump doesn't belong umpiring in Major League baseball.

Speaker 8 (01:32:39):
Learn baseball from baseball people. You take your kid to
somebody and you see them running around a track holding
an ozarka container above their head and being like, hey,
what is that?

Speaker 1 (01:32:50):
What are you doing?

Speaker 3 (01:32:51):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (01:32:51):
So teach this and that you know what this is
gonna be.

Speaker 9 (01:32:54):
If if somebody's teaching your kid to throw a ten
pound medicine ball with his right and as a pitcher,
because you want to strengthen it, there's better ways to
do that. That isn't good for your arm. A quarterback,
if you're a thing, now, I understand torso, and you're
holding and you and all that to get your core. Yeah,
but throwing these things that aren't the Guess what you
throw on when you when you're pitching today. Guess what

(01:33:15):
they're gonna throw? A white pill a baseball and that
weighs a certain amount of ants is not a frigging
medicine ball. Now there's certain level like right, like like
Nolan Ryan who trained with Tom House throwing playing a
long catch. We see that football wise, because first of all,
the football isn't a five pound medicine ball. You can
strengthen it and lengthen yourself out. That's okay, and I

(01:33:35):
think that's good. And then they get their cardio right
Nolan Ryan again riding the bike for thirty or sixty
minutes after a start to just lengthen and say, you know,
just stretch it out, those little things. And there's a
reason why he was pitching at forty six in Major
League Baseball.

Speaker 1 (01:33:49):
So there's ways to do it. And I can tell
you what ain't the way to do it.

Speaker 9 (01:33:52):
If a guy's I've said it a million times in football, baseball,
or basket, I don't care what it is. If they're
bringing a Santa Claus bag full of of items to
your training session, it's time to move on to another
trainer because they don't know how to teach. The gimmicks
are to protect them from knowing what they don't know.

Speaker 1 (01:34:11):
It's going to say. If it worked for Nolan Ryan,
I think he can work for you.

Speaker 9 (01:34:14):
Like I always tell a quarterback, I said, if you
don't believe me, just go pull up Tom Brady videos.
I'm talking about on the mechanics of the position. If
it's good enough for him, why wouldn't we teach those Now,
everybody can't live by the same thing. Certain arm angle
you got to adjust. But there's a base foundation as
a catcher, as a pitcher, a bass foundation as a quarterback,

(01:34:35):
a base foundation is a right guard. And every base
foundation is a jump shooter that some guys like Gary
Sheffield don't have to have a quiet upper body and
are just better than the rest of us as squared
at the bat. And you're like, how does a guy
doing all that hit one hundred miles an hour. You
throw fastball to Sheffield, it's leaving to the tune of
five hundred plus those things.

Speaker 8 (01:34:56):
I remember when Jeff Bagwell became the hitting coach and
and somebody said, well, how's he gonna teach hitting? I mean,
remember the way he stood. I'm not gonna tell people
they have to stand the way that he did. But
can we agree that he probably knew how to put
a bat on a ball?

Speaker 9 (01:35:09):
Yeah, well, squaring up the bat is worthy you don't
nobody could do it like bag Well, or you don't
even step, push your foot up, put it down, you
don't even shride. But that's comfortable for him, comfortable and fine.
But it's like a golfer who's got a weird swing,
furik or what have you. But when the club squares
up an impact, yeah, I don't care how you get
anyone else, but just get there and make sure. In

(01:35:30):
baseball it ain't late, so the mechanics are still solid
base foundation. No, Bagwell is probably gonna go. You don't
want to do it like I do. But when the
bat went through the hitting zone, it was squared up. Parents,
have your kids learn from baseball people, not this. Oh hey,

(01:35:51):
you know, I played a couple of years at this
D three. I mean, look, nothing against it. But if
you've learned teaching, that's fine too.

Speaker 1 (01:35:56):
Fine. Yeah, But.

Speaker 9 (01:35:59):
Part of the problem is youth coaches just wanted to volunteer.
And it's good and you want to volunteer for your
kid and the rest of it. But the problem is
at times it's volunteer coaches that are volunteering because they
want to be around their kids and do it, but
the kids at times aren't learning it right, right, But
and that's okay. You want volunteers, but you'd like volunteers
and somebody who can teach it right and then they
can understand the verbision and then they can apply it
to their kid when they're doing the lonely work.

Speaker 1 (01:36:20):
A skill.

Speaker 8 (01:36:20):
It's a skill that you know you wish could be replicated,
but unfortunately it can't because you know, everybody's got their
own idea and they're the ones that are trying to
look for the cutting edge.

Speaker 1 (01:36:29):
Same what I do? All right?

Speaker 8 (01:36:31):
Uh, Spencer Araghetti, he's making his start today. What do
we expect?

what's the uh?

Speaker 5 (01:39:00):
Uh?

Speaker 8 (01:39:01):
What's the Conway Twitty song? That's a good hearted woman
tight fitting jeans. It's another one old school tell you
what a guy who used his craft to work with
the ladies, because Conway himself not much of a looker,
but it was the words that that got it for
the ladies. Have you seen have you seen some of
the some of these dudes, look who pull Oh I know,

(01:39:23):
they could make a skunk's butt pucker.

Speaker 1 (01:39:25):
Yeah, they still can pull them. See are you Are
you the one.

Speaker 8 (01:39:28):
That you know when when you see a guy it's
not very good looking, he's got a good looking lady.

Speaker 1 (01:39:33):
Are you the one that's like what a you know
what a d bag man?

Speaker 12 (01:39:36):
Like?

Speaker 1 (01:39:37):
You know, there's no way no or you say he's
he's rich. That's why pulled.

Speaker 9 (01:39:42):
Sometimes people just like you've gone a good for him guy. Yeah,
we'll joke about say, especially if it's a buddy of years.
You say, dude, you're not exactly a day at the beach,
you're you're you're so far over your skis right. We
talk about that with our buddies all the time. And
then it's like, well, it's like Will Ferrell in the
movie with Wahlberg with their cops and he says, Brookshields

(01:40:02):
is all the court side he's got, he's got, Uh,
what is his wife and just and.

Speaker 1 (01:40:08):
Wahburg's looking home.

Speaker 12 (01:40:08):
But how do you do this?

Speaker 1 (01:40:10):
I have no idea what you're talking about.

Speaker 9 (01:40:12):
He's like, he's like, data's you better wear Jimmy's you know.
I mean, it's like one of the great all time lines.
But that dude, you're like, Okay, I get my Pharaoh
funny as hell in real life and stuff, but now.

Speaker 1 (01:40:25):
Wants to walking around money. Gata needs to walk around
Bundy gotta be wear Jimmy's. Oh baby, I'm sorry, I'm sorry,
I just get caught up into the Yeah.

Speaker 10 (01:40:34):
Get out.

Speaker 1 (01:40:35):
So he goes in the Michael Keaton's Kata needs his
cat back. Yeah, he says, hey.

Speaker 9 (01:40:41):
He keeps saying goodbye, keep sayingbody will tomorrow, and he
keep saying by to the wife.

Speaker 1 (01:40:47):
Right, Uh, well, Wahlburg does so yeah, yeah, Christina, it's
Christina exactly. I I usually am the guy says man,
good on you.

Speaker 9 (01:40:56):
Now if it's a good buddy, You're like, dude, really yeah,
Like in college, you look at me, say how'd you
pull her?

Speaker 1 (01:41:03):
It's like you have any money, You're ugly.

Speaker 9 (01:41:06):
You're ugly, and didn't you'd say, He goes, it's my
it's my booming personality. So I got to the part
I say, you know what, I went with enough guys
that you're like, dude, how'd you pull? You know, when
we're on a teammate of it, even you're halfway joke,
and it's like, got to the point you throw your
hands up saying, man, good on you. Whatever it is
you're doing, continue it, because we do know that guy
that he isn't a day at the beach. It's a

(01:41:29):
good buddy years. You say, dude, how I'm talking about
from high school all the way through is always always
pulling the you know has has the girlfriend of the wife.
That's always and you're like how and say, dude, listen,
you ain't exactly winning your mister congeniality, but you ain't
winning uh a hotness contest. And they keep getting So
I'm to the point where are good on them?

Speaker 5 (01:41:49):
And for what?

Speaker 9 (01:41:50):
I don't care what the reason if you make, if
you're worth a hundred billion, God bless you.

Speaker 8 (01:41:56):
So one of the greatest exercises to do is you
know some hot chick out there, post a thirst trap,
famous hot chick, whoever it is, cook one up in
your mind.

Speaker 1 (01:42:05):
Just go with them. Then there's gonna be a comments.

Speaker 8 (01:42:08):
Sure as you're born at the top, that's gonna be
somebody that says, oh, she used to be a lot hotter,
and then you click on their photo. And then one
of the best when somebody had like a you know
something along those lines of a comment back, oh she
used to be a lot hotter. Somebody responded, I guess
you don't have mirrors in your house.

Speaker 1 (01:42:24):
Yeah, right.

Speaker 9 (01:42:25):
And my favorite is when somebody rip somebody and they're like, oh,
that person's not there. They're not that good looking. You're right,
you've got four earrings in your nose, your hair's fourteen
different colors, and then you think, oh the jealousy, and
then you kind of laugh at it and you say, Okay,
that's just somebody's got to be trolling this person.

Speaker 8 (01:42:40):
My response is like, you know, oh get you know,
she's really hot. I'm like, doesn't do it for me,
That's my response. And I don't say it like a
in a comment, but like it's you know, if I
think that or somebody like in a conversation just asked.

Speaker 1 (01:42:53):
Me, I'm like, I doesn't do it for me, but
but you can understand why she'd do it.

Speaker 9 (01:42:57):
For somebody else. Absolutely, and I have one hundred, so
i'm past. I'm at the point now I say, good
on you. If you, if you, if you can land
the land that kind of gem, have at it, have
at it. Some people live by. They say, Hey, it's
about the personality and the way that guy treats me. Right,
that's exactly right, because eventually you're going to get older, Okay,

(01:43:20):
everybody is, so you better have something, you know.

Speaker 1 (01:43:24):
I'm gonna tell you what. It's so crazy.

Speaker 9 (01:43:26):
But Van McElroy, the Great Raiders safety, played at Baylor
from Uvaldi, Texas. I'll never forget when when I'd met
him coming out of college and we had the same agent,
and he'd say we were having a conversation, me and
a couple of young players and we never played on
the team, but it was like an off See, we
were doing something and Van says, you better marry somebody

(01:43:49):
you enjoy being around.

Speaker 1 (01:43:50):
And this is a dude.

Speaker 9 (01:43:51):
Van had the beard, undersized safety and I'm telling you,
he'd knock here, you know what, and a dirt and
when it came out, and what, dude, you're twenty one
years old. All you care about hot women, hot women
making money and playing football, and he said, you better.
We were talking about marriage and just it was like
a life lesson, he said. And I'm looking at this
tough raider, you know the full It's like he's knocking

(01:44:14):
people around saying this come from this tough guy's soft
hearted and it's the truest thing ever. He said, you
better marry somebody you like being around, or you love
being around, love talking.

Speaker 1 (01:44:27):
To That's probably the best marriage advice I've ever heard.

Speaker 9 (01:44:29):
And it was so simple, and he didn'tay anything else
other than that, which made me think, you know what,
Van's always going to have. It's going to be good
for him because well he gets it. And at that
point in time, I was expecting I'll d run through
them all, have a blast. Eventually you'll get me, you know,
simple advice. And it comes to that now, and I
understand why. Once it's all fine and dandy, but at
some point in time, if you're looking at the person

(01:44:51):
next to you and you think I can't stand that person,
I don't care how good looking they are, Right yep,
after you get both and you land at the price
that's good. Good for you man, and you know, probably
probably better for her.

Speaker 1 (01:45:03):
Than it is for you.

Speaker 9 (01:45:03):
But my favorite guy's the one who's oh man, that
old man, and than twenty years later, remember that old
man you were making fun of. Now you your pants
size is two sizes bigger at the waist, you lost
the little hair.

Speaker 1 (01:45:14):
You're that old man now.

Speaker 9 (01:45:15):
So that's another thing I never do, never get on
anybody for getting older, because like, there's one thing you
can't control.

Speaker 1 (01:45:21):
That's it.

Speaker 5 (01:45:22):
Brother.

Speaker 1 (01:45:22):
Now you can try to control it by state in shape.

Speaker 9 (01:45:24):
I'm talking about just you're gonna get older and somebody's
gonna look at you and say, damn, dude, what happened
to you.

Speaker 8 (01:45:30):
There's two undeniable truths in life. Number one is it's undefeated.
I think we know what I'm talking about. The other
one is Father Time is undefeated.

Speaker 9 (01:45:37):
Yeah, some guys that just have competed with Father Time
and beat him at times, but he usually wins the war.
You can get a few battles in the war, but
good on those guys that can do it. But there
was great advice and from a macho football player early
in my career.

Speaker 1 (01:45:53):
I'm like, you know, what's with me? It really does.
It's just so it's a little philosophy.

Speaker 9 (01:45:59):
I mean, we all know when you hear it from
somebody who's actually living it, Yeah, you're like, okay, pretty cool.

Speaker 1 (01:46:04):
Yeah, agreed. Yeah, good on him, John, see you right there.
We'll get you involved. You want to join them?

Speaker 8 (01:46:08):
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety Again
Spencer raged. He's gonna be on the Mountain tonight. We'll
talk about him a little bit too. Is it is
the Shawn Salisbury Show, Dana Brown an hour from now
right here Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 4 (01:46:22):
The Shawn Salisbury Show continued, John on the northwest Side.

Speaker 1 (01:46:27):
Appreciate your patience. Good morning, Hey, good morning guys.

Speaker 10 (01:46:32):
I'm sorry that was my blender going with.

Speaker 1 (01:46:34):
Oh, good for you. Healthy start to the day.

Speaker 10 (01:46:36):
I like it, John, It's a healthy start.

Speaker 1 (01:46:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 10 (01:46:39):
And you know who time doesn't stand still for. By
the way, Sean, it's uh Chasmo. You know, Chuck Norris.
Time stands still for him.

Speaker 1 (01:46:47):
Let me tell you something. He's defeated father time.

Speaker 9 (01:46:50):
He really asks ye, and he's also he's also defeated
the other thing that's undefeated. Chasmo can go on and
do whatever Chasmo wants. That's exactly right, that's right, yep.

Speaker 10 (01:47:01):
Jo You drive by his ranch and the ranch takes
serre of itself, it build.

Speaker 1 (01:47:06):
He's amazing. Yeah, you walk on and say, hey, how
do you keep this up? I don't.

Speaker 9 (01:47:10):
It keeps up itself and I walk through the doors.
That's right, that's the Chuck Norris can do a lot. Man,
he's got I hope he lives till he's like two hundred.
Then we'll be able to say he beat that too.
There you go, not just for the time but life right.

Speaker 1 (01:47:23):
Well, when the Boogeyman sleeps at night checks his closet four,
Chuck Norris, there's no doubt.

Speaker 9 (01:47:29):
Like I said, he's the only person in the history
that a poisonous snake bites and the snake dies.

Speaker 1 (01:47:33):
So there you go, as we learned, there you go.

Speaker 9 (01:47:36):
So john there you go, Johnny, real quick before you
make your point on blue Ball. On this team, the Astros.
You've been for about a year pining for a few
things that have kind of come to fruition for you.
You wanted this, You wanted that. You didn't mind if
Tucker was gone, You didn't mind if Reregman was gone.
Now you think, oh, we'd love to have him in
the lineup. But in truth, has this worked out to

(01:47:58):
your liking? And was the trade headline to your liking?

Speaker 10 (01:48:02):
Very much?

Speaker 5 (01:48:02):
So, Yeah, I.

Speaker 10 (01:48:05):
Really think we picked up some great talent, like like Hazy,
you know Sanchez, I really like him, and this Blue
Bough I mean, you know, throwing ninety seven ninety eight
mile an hour heat. One thing about Dana Brown, that
guy knows talent, and I think he's great at just
picking the right people and and he's done a great job.

(01:48:28):
I really like the way this team looks right now.
I really do, with these pitchers coming back and the
players we picked up. And you know, I think Correa
was a great addition as well. I'm glad we did that.
So I think this team is looking really strong moving forward.

Speaker 5 (01:48:43):
I really do.

Speaker 10 (01:48:44):
I think I really like the way this team's coming together.
I really do. Yeah, answer your question, Yeah, very much.

Speaker 8 (01:48:51):
So I love it, you know well, John, Yeah, enjoy
the smoothie Brother, keep staying hoping, And I'm going to
leave you with one more from Chuck nor That time
waits for no man unless that man is Chuck Norris.

Speaker 12 (01:49:05):
There you go, there you go?

Speaker 1 (01:49:07):
Yeah, awesome, all right, Hey O, good day, John. I
appreciate it. Buddy, Yeah, i'd say, man. And this is
the time of year too.

Speaker 8 (01:49:14):
I mean I've said it numerous you know times that
look at the World Series teams, the ones that win
it all, when do they start playing their best baseball?

Speaker 1 (01:49:22):
August right now? September October.

Speaker 9 (01:49:26):
That's in every sport, though, isn't it. Although you got
to start fast, baseball gives you a little more twelve
and twenty four last year to over time.

Speaker 8 (01:49:32):
Oh, you can go to in the NFL the two. Yeah,
you can go two and two in the first month
and still feel like, hey, we got we got the
guys here. We can do this basically talking the Cincinnati
Bengals right right, and you can go one and three,
although now you're in a major chase mode in December.
That'd be like starting out twelve and forty in baseball
and happen to overcome that. Now, maybe you can, but

(01:49:52):
that's the aberration. You better be really good the rest
of the year. But if you start off and win early,
it gives you the latitude. Okay, we lost December fifteenth
to a team. Okay, that's okay, you can overcome it.
But when you get to December and you started out
one and three in September. Guess what happens now, you
got to win them all and Cincinnati found that out
all too well last year.

Speaker 9 (01:50:11):
But you're exactly right. You do want to build you
a crescendo and be at your very best. You studied
for the test, You've prepared for practice tests all year long,
and now the real stuff's here, and you'd sure hate
to walk out of that, you know, not taking care
of your business. And I think the Astros it's going
to be a fun postseason because the wide variety and
the array of teams that can win the whole thing.

(01:50:35):
It doesn't feel like chalk's going to be the norm
in this postseason this year, this, I mean even and
it seems like people talk more about the American League
this way. I feel like the National League is the
same way. I mean, you could make the argument for
the Phillies, you can make the argument for the Dodgers,
the Padres, the Mets Hell. I mean me and you
were talking about earlier to make it for the Brewers.

Speaker 8 (01:50:54):
I was gonna say, I mean, you showed them on
the screen on MLB Network earlier and it was like,
take a look at what the Brewers are doing old
Murv's got that team playing well, dude, they are destroy
what are they? Forty four and sixteen the last sixty
they've been really, I mean, is that about running away
with the central right now in the National League?

Speaker 1 (01:51:12):
And that's another team and they're really can pitch.

Speaker 9 (01:51:15):
I've told you about those every the overpowering young arms
or veterans that can flat if you're throwing ninety six
on that roster.

Speaker 1 (01:51:24):
Oh man, we got our low Vlo guy going. I mean,
they they they can do. What's he's okay?

Speaker 9 (01:51:31):
Yeah, he's okay, exactly so there is no doubt and
in truth I know, and they'll spend more time on
certain areas in this country and on certain shows talking
about the old what's more impressive? Ow and five Yankees
or more detrimental own five Yankees in the last five
games or whatever it's been. I think they got swept
and lost the last two, right, that's exactly right. So

(01:51:52):
that would be and then they got to deal with
the Astros coming to their building or is it the
way the Brewers have played the last sixty games?

Speaker 1 (01:51:59):
You tell me which one's more. While it's crushing you.

Speaker 9 (01:52:03):
More in Yankee Stadium or it's like our Milwaukee Brewers
can actually win the whole thing. You know, where the
coverage is going to be, and I'm sure the Brewers
kind of like just kind of rolling along. And when
you mentioned the teams, they're the old by the Way
team and they're really good. So playing your best baseball now,
and part of playing your best baseball is getting your
best players. Right, we get to see Aarraghetty finally back,

(01:52:24):
and there's a few more bodies that you need up
here to play your best baseball.

Speaker 8 (01:52:29):
Yeah, and Spencer Araghtty gonna get his chance tonight. We'll
talk about him in a little bit. We kind of
touched on a little bit during a break and feel
like this is a good chance to bring this up
because the Texans.

Speaker 1 (01:52:42):
The I on the season, Well maybe maybe one of.

Speaker 8 (01:52:46):
Those teams are gonna be facing might have some questions
the answer on their own.

Speaker 1 (01:52:49):
We'll talk about it here.

Speaker 8 (01:52:50):

This is the Sean Salisbury isshoe all sales that's utiful.

Speaker 8 (01:55:10):
Gonna be working today and tomorrow off on Friday to
be able to travel out to Minnesota for Saturday's preseason
opener against the Vikings. The Texans take on the Rams
start the season in Matthew Stafford. This a report coming
down about a couple of hours ago from Ian Rappaport,

(01:55:30):
Rams QB. Matthew Stafford dealing with an aggravated disc and
has received an eper dural to help him deal with it.
LA has called it a week to week thing, being cautious,
but with plans for him to be ready for week one. Well,
I'll tell you what I mean, Sean, you played the
position ribs, wrists, elbows, shoulders. I would have to think

(01:55:53):
probably a disc issue where you know, you want to
be able to turn left and right, be able to
scan the field, do all the different types of things.

Speaker 1 (01:56:01):
You're hearing that.

Speaker 9 (01:56:02):
That's tee off season for defenses. Yeah, and he hasn't
got much work in in a while. Right now, he's
a I wouldn't play him in the preseason games anyway, sure,
even if he was healthy. But the Rams are a
super Bowl team, I mean Philadelphia. Philadelphia is going to
be the Vegas favorite. But I can tell you now
the Rams are not far behind. Matter of fact, the

(01:56:24):
Rams are driving down that they're in the game to
beat Philadelphia. If you remembering last years playoff, Yeah, now
Philadelphia won if you know ifs and butts and all
that stuff. But I can tell you this, they are
a super Bowl caliber team. Sean mcvag knows how to coach,
and they've got players. They their super Bowl team with Stafford.
But I can tell you this, Without him, that would

(01:56:46):
be who Jimmy Garoppolo is up next. And Jimmy's a
solid player, but I got news for he can't make
the throws that Stafford can. Stafford is a Hall of Famer.
He's he's got the Super Bowl ring, and he's put
up God he numbers and and you saw what happened
to the Rams the second he got there, right, they
won a super Bowl first year. Matthew Stafford's a full
of football playing Jesse. But I can tell you this,

(01:57:07):
without him, they will not play in the super Bowl. Now,
how long's he out? Hopefully it doesn't linger. If you
get Stafford fifteen, sixteen of the seventeen games or all
of them, the Rams will be right in it.

Speaker 1 (01:57:17):
If you don't.

Speaker 9 (01:57:18):
And I got respect for Garoppolo, but there is a
drop off and the ability to throw the ball where
you want to throw it is a This would be
as detrimental at the me when you think about value,
and it's always value with quarterbacks Lamar and Mahomes and
having CJ. Stroud here, of course your starter is valuable.
But the Rams realize exactly how valuable this is. That's

(01:57:39):
a major drop off. The Rams become the if all
of a sudden you said, hey, Stafford's out eight weeks.
Now look at the odds in Vegas and watch that's
when you bet him. Hopefully he gets back and say, oh,
I'm getting better odds for my money. I'm gonna go
bet him. This is a sneaky, scary lingering problem if
it does linger for the Rams and the I mean.

Speaker 1 (01:58:00):
It's not to say it's the same situation.

Speaker 8 (01:58:02):
I'm not a doctor, so I can't really compare the
two too much, but I mean Peyton Manning, I mean
a guy that had to deal with this where you know,
you think about all the other injuries, but I mean
that you wonder if it can get to that point
where then it starts to linger for other things that
are an issue for him.

Speaker 9 (01:58:19):
What you're hoping is if that injury, you're hoping it
ends up like what happened to Peyton Manning, not the
injury that has him out, But if you remember, there
was a time when he was having trouble throwing just
a curl route because of the nerve innings. How did
it happen once he got healthy? Super Bowl went to
two one to one, and Manning's numbers when he left Indianapolis,
when he was at his best after that in Denver

(01:58:41):
whereas gaudy as they've ever been. So if you're the Rams,
you're saying okay for different reasons. But if I can
get the same production post injury that Manning gave his
Denver Broncos with Matthew Stafford, who is obviously more pure
thrower of the football than even Peyton was, the Rams
will be in good shape. But hopefully the rest during
the preseason, which could be a blessing in disguise for
Stafford because you're not out there wearing yourself out in

(01:59:03):
practice every day. But you got to hope the rust
isn't there, but that'll come back fast. It's just a
matter of is he one hundred percent all season long?
And Lord knows this, this this fan base here knows
what injuries to a baseball team are that they're trying
to overcome and get themselves.

Speaker 1 (01:59:16):
At full strength. Just also makes you wonder, though, if
you're Matt Stafford, like why do you need this?

Speaker 12 (01:59:21):
Like why?

Speaker 8 (01:59:21):
Like what what are you still chasing? You've done it all,
You've put up the numbers, You've won the super Bowl.

Speaker 9 (01:59:27):
Okay, I'm gonna put it to you when somebody says that, Okay,
you're you're you're you're in your you know, let's say,
hovering around forty, right into thirties. Yeah, push yourself ahead
twenty years from now, made money, love it, raising kids.
You still love coming to work. And it's the one
thing that you've that's the and I'm not saying see
the only thing, but it's the only job you've had

(01:59:47):
in thirty years, right and you and and you wake
up and people are saying, hey, man, when are you
gonna get out of it? And you say, are you
ready to get out of it? I'm loving this too much.

Speaker 1 (01:59:57):
This is the beach.

Speaker 9 (01:59:58):
It doesn't matter if the money is not what you're
doing before you're doing it, because you finally got to
the point and say, okay, I feel pretty secure. I
can walk if I want, sure, but I love doing
this right. And I always say, and I've seen this
many times when people say, well he's got injured, what
else does he need? It's about the money. Most players,
I know, you have to drag them off the field. Now,
go ask Treyickman and Steve Young if they'd like to

(02:00:20):
play more injury. They both wanted to play. Go ass
Sterling Sharp.

Speaker 1 (02:00:24):
Yea.

Speaker 9 (02:00:24):
Even you say, Matt, if you told Sharp, I'm just
telling him talking to Steve Young, these guys, if you
told them, men, you can come back and play and
it's risky to play football the time. If they could
and doctors would clear him stuff, dude, they would have
came back and played for the majority. Most people would,
including me, if it would have been for different reason.

(02:00:46):
If somebody says you can't, if I still love it,
you know what I'm saying. And if you're Matt Stafford,
you're saying love playing, love competing. Who knows how long
he wants to do it. At some point time when
you walk, that's done. So try telling the guy in
his thirties or pushing forty, you know, in your thirty said,
hey man, we as a fan base think you should retire.
That never works, you know what I'm saying. He's got

(02:01:07):
to wake up one day and say, you know what,
that's it.

Speaker 1 (02:01:09):
I don't love it. I knew when it was time
for me. I knew the day.

Speaker 9 (02:01:13):
I can tell you I know exactly where I was,
and I said, I'm.

Speaker 1 (02:01:17):
Prepared for something else.

Speaker 9 (02:01:18):
After playing you know, double digits, it was like, okay,
now Stafford taking all those hits. But I get why
people ask it, but in a different way because you're
not going to get hurt a hamstring walking in here. Now,
if you heard a hamstring walking into the studio, there's
probably time to put this quick broadcasting. But think about
that when somebody, when everybody else tries to decide for
you what you should do, and you're like, because then

(02:01:40):
if you walk away from it, you know you'll always
want to do dan come back. You you got to
empty the bucket and say okay, when's the time. And
they say, not chasing money, I'm just chasing fun. I
love what I'm doing. I like talking, so I get
what you're saying. But trying to tell that to a
guy that that's all he's known in his professional career
and you're gonna walk away in your in your thirties,

(02:02:02):
your mid to late thirties.

Speaker 1 (02:02:03):
Hard to do.

Speaker 9 (02:02:04):
That's why most of them hang around too long. Jerry
Rice was a fourth receiver by his last year. Yeah,
fifth receiver, and was told by it's just hard because
you still think you got it. You want to know
the easiest way to retire. And I know this is
going to sound crazy, but it's true. When the doctors
decide for you, Oh man, you can't. I can't put
you out there anymore. You can custer your neck or

(02:02:25):
you and they say you're not getting cleared, then you
take Sterling Sharp Hall of Fame er, God bless him.
I love my guy, but doctors had to look him
in the face. Ay, there's more of those than there
is Barry Sanders. That's exactly what lway that walks on
their terms. That doesn't happen very often. It doesn't happen.
So I get what you're saying about Stafford, but enjoying

(02:02:47):
why he can because he is going to make the
decision at some point to say no more. But it's
going to be his, not yours in mind, because we
think he should because he's banged up.

Speaker 8 (02:02:54):

Speaker 2 (02:03:38):
Dan Matthewscuse Houston.

Speaker 4 (02:03:41):
This is the Sewan Salisbury Show, speaking of the GM
of the Astros, the team that he has put together,
winning last night seven to three over the Marlins in Miami.

Speaker 8 (02:03:54):
They're gonna go for the sweep this afternoon off day
tomorrow before weekend series in the Bronx against the Yankees
Texans on the practice field at the Greenbrier for training
camp Today and tomorrow, they're going to work before they
head out to Minnesota for the Saturday preseason opener against
the Vikings, and ESPN buying NFL networking red Zone from
the league. The NFL now has a ten percent stake

(02:04:19):
in ESPN, so talked about a little bit earlier. That's
gonna get interesting in terms of how the league is
covered by them now. And oh by the way too,
because people wondering with red zone moving along. I don't
know if Scott Hansen is so think they're keeping him
in the room. I mean, because my mind could not

(02:04:40):
have handled if rich Eisen's doing it. Let's go to
LA now, let's let's go check that out.

Speaker 1 (02:04:47):
Now. What an awful What an awful drive by them, Thanks.

Speaker 9 (02:04:51):
Rich Or or you know, you're adding somebody that works
in an NFL out of ESPN and trying to force
them into a role.

Speaker 1 (02:04:57):
That Hanson's really really good ass. That's tremendous ass. Cilliano
was too.

Speaker 9 (02:05:01):
Yeah, he's he's he's keeping the role and they're not.
They're not And it's a wise move by them. You
don't disrupt that it's going good. I know he might
be a friend, but like to me, like rich Eisen,
he is a friend and he's he's a very talented guy.
But I sometimes people feel the same way.

Speaker 8 (02:05:15):
To He's always been good to me and to me
like just some of like his comments that he makes,
like I'm just like, like, who are you to make
that comment man.

Speaker 9 (02:05:26):
Guy that people have tuned into, and that put him
on a platform to do. And I'll tell you when
Rich was at his best in my and I love
He's good to career, when he and start when he
and Stuart Scott were doing Sports Center together and their
friendship was unbreakable.

Speaker 1 (02:05:43):
It was awesome because that was also.

Speaker 9 (02:05:46):
The days of Dan and and you know of Kenny
Ma the group actually showing highlights, I mean the actual
best that Sports Center will never be that now, No,
just Van Pelt and Stuart's got Eisen and Kenny and
Dan Patrick, Linda Cohen that no doubt loaded with phenomenal
skill set and personality and highlights and sports talk. And

(02:06:10):
Dan wasn't talking about who he voted for, you know,
or when they've just given you clever highlights. And rich
and and Stuart were phenomenal together. Rich is a good guy.
But I get in some of his comments. Why you
why you'd say that he's he's He's heard it before,
but he's a he's a talented guy that that executives
like because you can count on him to show up everything.

Speaker 1 (02:06:32):
He's a Michigan guy to trust big, Oh yes he will.
He loves it.

Speaker 8 (02:06:36):
He got his National championship a couple of years ago
to Fridays with Boomer Yep, Sammy yep.

Speaker 9 (02:06:42):
He's nobody circles the wagons like the Buffalo Bills, And
now you'll get to do his shay. That's exactly right.
He's a forty nine er and Bill's guy. That's that
was Berman loves him both, right, Yeah, yeah, no doubt.
He can't say Raiders, but yeah, they'll they'll have a
lot of football coverage. But the question is on now

(02:07:04):
that the NFL's in bed with ESPN, and that's a fact.
The question is can you can Can you keep the
integrity and be honest? And is the NFL networking get
Are they gonna let you criticize stuff that they do
that needs criticizing as opposed to you being afraid of
your job because you can't criticize the higher ups bs
if it as long as it's not personal, you can

(02:07:25):
criticize and compliment anybody, in my opinion, and you've got
to let them do their gig. If you don't, you
meddle in it. Questions will arise, and they're gonna arise
already in here sooner than later. But Hanson keeps the
gig as a red zone guy, which is a wise move.
He's very good at his job.

Speaker 1 (02:07:41):
He is for sure. Spencer Aragony gonna go tonight.

Speaker 9 (02:07:44):
I'm pumped, man, Yeah, I'm more pumped now than I
remember his first start kid coming out of Katie and
the rest of it. I'm more pumped about this start
than I have any start he's made, because I can't
wait to see how he feels. But where this is
the length of the lineup, I mean of the pitching staff.
Now what it's going to mean and where he fits
in and how good his stuff is and how how

(02:08:05):
how much he can give you right now and what
we're counting on.

Speaker 1 (02:08:08):
Because he did say that this feels like his debut
all over again.

Speaker 9 (02:08:11):
As it should, and this one, I imagine on this
first one, we remember what he's on the mound and
family was there and Bud he's hitting, no doubt, and
we're like, Okay, can't wait to see it. Well, he's
better now and he understands he's and he you know,
grasp what being a pitcher is about, and he's got
more experience now. It's just if he's healthy in the
injuries right come back and be better, and you can
gain even gain a lot of perspective when you're on

(02:08:34):
the shelf watching your teammates pitch and others pitch. I'm
more I anticipate this start more because I didn't know
a lot about him in high school. I mean, I
knew where he was from, but had never watched him
pitch in high school. Well, here here's a here's a
guy that Now that you know what he's got and
coming back and understanding the circumstances of which this staff needs,
I'm anxious to see where he elevates. I anticipate this

(02:08:56):
start even more than I did his first one when
he when he got it here in his HOMESTI home.

Speaker 8 (02:09:00):
City, has nothing to do with pitching, but pound for
pound in that clubhouse. In terms of a quote, the
my go to is Eric getting incredibly thought.

Speaker 9 (02:09:09):
Out guy, smart guys, why very high IQ on the
mound as well, He's going to settle into something We've
seen flashes of brilliance with him.

Speaker 5 (02:09:18):
Uh.

Speaker 9 (02:09:19):
I can't wait to see how he settles in and
what where their ceiling is on this game.

Speaker 1 (02:09:23):
But it's gonna be nice for him, and.

Speaker 9 (02:09:25):
Uh, I'm sure all of his buddies and coaches and
family gonna be checking it out on the on the
television or listening on the radio to get this start.
This is an important one not only for the team,
but for him and moving forward.

Speaker 8 (02:09:36):
And the good news too, if you know, for not
only him, but I mean for the rest of the team,
is starting to get these guys back.

Speaker 1 (02:09:43):
And the bullpen last night.

Speaker 8 (02:09:45):
Where really you only had to go of the middle
of the bullpen guys, the middle relief guys, you only
had to go there for a couple of innings.

Speaker 9 (02:09:54):
You got the off day tomorrow, so you still got them.
Take a blue ball, take a bow. You did your
you did you hurt my be the only one that
you're not gonna go with today, right other than that
or it's still there. Yeah, yep, take a bow. If
you're blue ball, you did exactly what you needed to do,
and those things. It's nice to I mean, regard, I
don't know where he's gonna fit in with this thing,

(02:10:14):
but he he sures hell fit in and did his
thing yesterday, which gives you fresh goat ate. You're gonna
have to see bullpen today regardless, because I can tell
you one thing that's not happening. No matter how well
he's pitching, he ain't going nine innings, no, So be
ready to get in there and hopefully hopefully gets you
you know, efficient to where he can get deep into
the thing without overloading on a pitch count. And then

(02:10:36):
and you see the great result. And then they can
come in and take care of their business and get
themselves fully staffed and ready to go. When I say
fully staffed, rested as they head to the Bronx and
get this thing done.

Speaker 8 (02:10:45):
Yeah, for the astros too, what is key for them,
not only today but also for the rest of this
road ship, we'll discuss that here.

Speaker 1 (02:10:51):
It is the Sean Salisbury Show.

Speaker 8 (02:10:52):
You can join us seven one three two one two
five seven ninety against seven one three two on two

(02:11:12):
forget about that summer line that is out right now.

posted a meme and said, August the Sunday of summer. Well,
we pretty much get a three day weekend and maybe
even a half day on Tuesday when it comes to
summer around here, because fall doesn't really kick in until
let's just say it late October at the earliest.

Speaker 1 (02:11:34):
So that's summer line.

Speaker 8 (02:11:35):
Still a great chance for you to go to Kobe
Stevens dot com be able to check out what they
have there on said summer line, because we're talking polos,

days away from the kickoff of college football season, and

(02:11:58):

that state line over in Louisiana and go to that
big stadium right there in Baton Rouge, in that nice
purple and goldpolo, it's there for you. You want to
go to college station, you want to be looking good

Speaker 1 (02:12:44):
The Shawn Salisbury Show.

Speaker 2 (02:12:46):
Continues, and now you.

Speaker 1 (02:12:49):
Know two thousand and one below Litle League team.

Speaker 9 (02:12:53):
Yeah, we talk Terrence calls. We can talk a lot
of baseball, right shout out. He spends a lot of
time talking baseball on about little league days. That's awesome,
good man.

Speaker 8 (02:13:00):
You drive through my hometown right there, You drive through
bell Air and the water Tower, you know, because water
Tower is a big here and in most talents in
Texas it's football. No, you drive down South Rice right
there in bell Air, you got baseball.

Speaker 9 (02:13:12):
There big time. So that's awesome. Congrats to them, and
our guy Terrence has got to be loving this too,
for sure.

Speaker 8 (02:13:18):
It's awesome for sure, So rooting for them and told
you about Texans on the practice field. All right, So
we're gonna get to Dana Brown here in about five
minutes or so. But somebody wants to talk a quarterback situation.

Speaker 1 (02:13:30):
How you feeling?

Speaker 5 (02:13:31):
Uh?

Speaker 9 (02:13:33):
Yeah, I guess I think I know who the quarterback
situation is on most teams right now, but yeah, whoever
it is?

Speaker 1 (02:13:39):
Letter Rip, All right, go ahead, Lewis, Good morning, gentlemen.
How you doing anybody?

Speaker 5 (02:13:46):
I had a quarterback question.

Speaker 16 (02:13:47):
And I figured there's only one person to go to,
and that's the quarterback god, Sean Salisbury. So anyway, here's
my question. I was born and raised Dolphin fans. My
dad and I even had season tickets the first six
years until I got duct taped.

Speaker 13 (02:14:06):
And moved here screaming in seventy two. But I still
root for them. I also went to ut Sean.

Speaker 12 (02:14:12):
So my question is.

Speaker 2 (02:14:15):
Quinn viewers, I wanted to get your.

Speaker 13 (02:14:17):
Opinion on what you think this what you think he
can actually do.

Speaker 16 (02:14:25):
I personally, I think he's better than Sam Allinger was,
and Ellinger, as far as.

Speaker 13 (02:14:31):
I know, is still with the Colts. But I know
some of my buddies down in Miami and.

Speaker 16 (02:14:37):
Are really excited about yours.

Speaker 5 (02:14:39):
And I just don't know.

Speaker 13 (02:14:40):
Is it because they all hate.

Speaker 16 (02:14:42):
To us so much down there, or do you really
think this guy's got a chance to, you know, to
make a roster And I will hang up and listen
and gentlemen, have.

Speaker 1 (02:14:52):
A great day.

Speaker 9 (02:14:53):
Appreciate it, Yeah, appreciate you. Here's the deal. First off,
And as much as I love of Ellinger, this is
Quinn ears is a better thrower of the football. And
it's it's it's not close, you know, the versatility of
Sam and that, but when it came to throw in
the football, that's the excitement. I don't think you've seen

(02:15:13):
yours best football.

Speaker 5 (02:15:14):
Now.

Speaker 9 (02:15:14):
He had Sark and he's learned a lot, and he
had a great college coach. But the ups and that
had some injuries and stuff, and there was a there's
some inconsistency about his game, right, but explosive, explosive arm strength,
and he just needs to polish it. I think it's
going to be great for him to sit back and
watch now the first interception to of throws, everybody's going
to be pining for Quinn yours, right, They just that's

(02:15:36):
that's the way this works, Quinn Ewers is not better
than Tua right now.

Speaker 1 (02:15:41):
Now.

Speaker 9 (02:15:41):
If you're talking about who's got a more powerful arm,
we know where that comes from. But as far as accuracy,
if he's on time, when he throws on time, too,
is as accurate as anybody in the league when they're
working in rhythm.

Speaker 1 (02:15:53):
It's when he's off rhythm.

Speaker 9 (02:15:54):
The physical skill set between yours and and Tua make advantage.
Quinn Yours the accuracy on time playing within a system
right now advantage to and he's seen a lot of it.

Speaker 1 (02:16:07):
Tua just needs to stay help. Two is a good player.
Where you get two is.

Speaker 9 (02:16:10):
If you don't let him get through that first and
second read quick and he has to hold it. He
is a little bit physically limited arm strength, not a
little it's it's not he's not going to win the
Superstars competition throwing it. But I have a lot of
respect for him. Plus he's making fifty plus million dollars,
so he is going to play. And I know Mike
McDaniel loves him. But the injuries and the rest, but
I think that the great thing for Quinn Yours is it.

(02:16:34):
And I know that's a bummer when you talk about money,
that he wasn't a top ten or fifteen pick, and
that the expectations he can go in there and settle
in and he's never really. I mean, you got to
do it a little bit of Ahio State because that
quarterback room is so deep before he came here. Just
settle in and learn. And remember he reclassified early on
in high school to where he he's a year actually

(02:16:55):
ahead of where he should be. I mean, you know
what I'm saying because of his when he left. But
he's got great experience. He was well in college. He'll
be primed for this. And if their season goes to
hell in a handbasket, you may see him, but there's
he's in no danger of starting right now. Two, if
he's healthy, Two is going to start and they'll put
up numbers. The question is are they physical enough? Can
they ever get off the field defensively and beat a
team that punches him in a face. So I like

(02:17:15):
quinn Ewers was fortunate to coach him at a camp
and watch him.

Speaker 1 (02:17:18):
He was different.

Speaker 9 (02:17:19):
I mean, he can the ball comes out of his
hand different, But it's the consistency in understanding what you're
seeing coverage wise. Two is advanced on that, but he's
physically more skilled than to him. But to his accuracy
on time, we'll keep him in the lineup. It's just
a matter of injuries and how good Miami. Miami is
one of those that they're always going to tease you,
but when you get and play a physical team, they
get bullied. But yours has got a future and it's

(02:17:42):
not the pressure on him to have to play right
now because of where he was drafted.

Speaker 8 (02:17:45):
Well, and that was the problem when he was at
Texas was you could count on one point in the
season he's going to miss a game or games because
he's going to be hurt. So that's probably what scared
a lot of NFL teams away from him of saying, hey,
I get it's seventh round pick, but can I count
on this guy if I got to throw him out there?

Speaker 9 (02:18:01):
And you watch and watched Quinn. Quinn has moments of
like were you're like, this dude's on fire and we
saw it and he's streaky, and then there's times when
you're sitting here saying, damn, where he looks right, he
looks a little looks a little like it was it
the Georgia game, the first time when he came out
and looked.

Speaker 1 (02:18:17):
A little skittish.

Speaker 9 (02:18:18):
Yeah, that it was the first Georgia game right where
he looks skittish, and it's like the physicality, it's like, man,
get a wake up call. But then when he gets going.
So he's a streaky player but gifted. But there's no
pressure to play him right now. Plus you paid two
a lot of money too, is going to start and
you got a project in Quinn yours which is not
a bad thing.

Speaker 8 (02:18:38):
We a lot to get to with astros GM Dana
Brown and he joins us for his weekly visit right here,
Sean Salisbury show, Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 9 (02:18:47):
You want to hit there some jbarm here, buddy, Oh yeah,
we could do that. Yeah, you want to talk some
great food at any time of day. Great customer service,
incredible venue twenty two o one Leland, no reservations necessary
and when you walk in and you see the presentation,

(02:19:08):
you see all the stuff up there on the bord,
and then when you actually put it on a platter,
you're like, I just want to get a cot and
live here. It's great and outdoor that outdoor venue part
of it, the indoor outdoor parbat with the big TV.
And you know, I can already see fall Saturdays, can't
you in Sundays? And it's gonna be. It's awesome. And
if you haven't been in there, you're missing out. If

(02:19:29):
you have been in there, you know what I'm talking about.
Twenty two old one Leland Street and Dan. I know
they got stuff going on, but the great thing and
an appearance to make a difference, and they do make
a difference. They'll make a difference on your taste buds
every day. But you don't need a reason of an
event to have to go there, but if there is
one that's worth it, you go. It is the best
barbecue in this city, no question about it.

Speaker 8 (02:19:48):
I mean we've talked about the brisket, the ribs, the jalapeno, cheddar, sausage,
whatever it is that are rashed. And the crew back
there in the pit room they are bringing out there
to the front for you. And you mentioned it event.

Speaker 9 (02:19:59):
No event?

Speaker 8 (02:20:00):
What about a great event that's going to be benefiting
a great cause coming up this Friday. Our good buddy
John McLean and Dan Pasterini gonna be talking a little
bit of football with you to get you fired up.
For the season and the proceeds from the event going
to go to help the people who really need it
right now from the Central Texas floods.

Speaker 9 (02:20:17):
Making a difference, eating well and hearing two people that
love the city of Houston, and it'll be great.

Speaker 1 (02:20:22):
You fired up for the football season.

Speaker 9 (02:20:24):
Good on there, get on in and obviously it's no
surprise that Jbarn Barbecue's trying to make a difference on
your taste buds, which they do, and to help people
out love it, love what they're doing. Go to Jbarn Barbecue.
You don't need an excuse, but this is in double X.
This is a good reason to want to go. And
while you're at it, grab yourself some of the best victuals.
You'll find great barbecue.

Speaker 8 (02:20:41):
You can't think of a better way to end the week.
Some great barbecue, some great drinks, some great entertainment too,
to hear some of those old oiler stories, any of
those things. Right there again, Jbarm Barbecue twenty two one,
one Leland Street, Jbarm Barbecue right there in Ito.

Speaker 1 (02:20:57):
We're val for the Shawn Salisbury Show. Continue.

Speaker 9 (02:21:02):
Astro's general manager Dana Brown. Always great to have him on.
Dana welcome in. Let's just backtrack a little bit. An
impressive trade deadline. You know, people getting better here everywhere
else for the most part. And you you had mentioned
the teams that are in it. You're dealing with other
teams and people are in a by mode because there's
a lot of teams with the chance to win its

(02:21:22):
Assess how.

Speaker 1 (02:21:23):
You felt before going.

Speaker 9 (02:21:25):
We know how you felt as far as energy wise,
but now coming out of it, how you feel about
really the three guys that you got that are already
contributing to this team.

Speaker 5 (02:21:35):
Yeah, absolutely feel really good about these guys. You know,
I would say that, you know, we felt really good
about going to get some position players because we had
some pitching coming back, and so we knew we had
to improve the offense. You heard me talk a lot
about getting a left handed bat. You know, we were
able to get a left handed bat. We got a
right handed bat and infielder in Carlos Korea, left handed bat, uh,

(02:22:00):
you know, Sanchez, and in areas we got you know,
a guy that could play Gold Glove utility and fielder,
and you know it's going to help us down the stretch.
And these three guys we felt good about going to
get and as I mentioned before, we got the pitching
coming back. You add this to your offense and you
got a chance of being a well oiled machine and

(02:22:23):
go down for a good run here.

Speaker 9 (02:22:24):
And Dana, even though you don't like to part, you know,
Gusto had done a really good job here and you're
talking about you know, at times, as you've told us
and we've seen it, it sometimes stings at a deadline
to go get somebody to give up a young player.
But in truth, this young You know, when you talk
about some of the players that are in your farm
system and or on the major league roster that are young,
you didn't have to part with them, which had to

(02:22:46):
which is a huge win that you got to. You
talk about an eye to the president and eye to
the future. You got both. That had to be a
big win and your I would imagine in the thought
process of the organization.

Speaker 14 (02:22:57):
Absolutely, you know, in order to keep the win to
go open for winning, you always have to operate in
the present and the future, and we try to do
that as much as possible, and we felt like we
did that here.

Speaker 5 (02:23:10):
You know, we we got back some guys that you know,
to two of these guys going to remain on our roster.
You know, we had to give up Gusto. Uh, you
know the way he threw the ball with us, he
was doing throwing the ball well, but you have to
give up something to get something, and so uh, you know,
we felt like we were definitely operating in the president
in the future and that's what we're going to do here.

(02:23:32):
And so yeah, we felt really good about it.

Speaker 9 (02:23:35):
Dan, I'm going to get back to the Korea in
just a second. I want to get to the pitching
part of you know, the anticipation we all speculate, you're
you're you're in the moment dealing with these teams, answering
the bat phone and doing all that. But was it
of the two, what was the what was the bigger
the bigger point I guess at the deadline, was it
getting a picture of the names that we know that

(02:23:56):
have been mentioned.

Speaker 1 (02:23:57):
Was that too expensive or was it easier not to.

Speaker 9 (02:24:01):
Dig into the expensive part because you knew you were
getting guys like Garcia, Javier Arragetty coming back down the pipeline,
which one trump to the other in this.

Speaker 5 (02:24:12):
Yeah, I would feel like getting these guys back from
the I l is you know a big part of it.
You know, you're gonna have Righetty, who's going to pitch tonight,
He's going to come back. You have Hiri Air right
behind him, and then you have Garcia behind him, and
so getting those three guys are huge. And you know,
think about what Araghetti did last year with one hundred
and seventy one strikeouts, one hundred and forty five innings.

(02:24:33):
Getting that back, getting that guy back you know as
one of this he was one of the top rookies
and innings pitched and strikeouts. Yeah, so you know, when
you can get that guy back from the IL and
it wasn't an arm injury, that's a real good get.
And so you know that was massive. And you know
we've got Garcia, he's throwing the ball very well. You
have Javier, he's throwing the ball well. We're going to

(02:24:54):
get those two guys back. And also behind them you
have France and so you have four guys that really
help last year that are coming back this year. And
that's that's massive for us. And so the focus was
to uh, you know, not give up too much to
get pitching and to really load up on some bats

(02:25:14):
and uh, you know, run this thing uh all the
way through and so we feel really good about it.
Just need to get on all cylinders. And you know,
last night you got a glimpse of what this team's
going to look.

Speaker 9 (02:25:24):
Like regardless of how If he pitches great, and I'm
sure that's what your expectations are.

Speaker 1 (02:25:30):
What is how long?

Speaker 9 (02:25:32):
What should we expect to see him tonight or this
later this afternoon, Spencer Raghetty? What what is there a
pitch pitch count on him? What do we expect from him?

Speaker 5 (02:25:41):
Yeah, I mean he can get up to eighty pitches,
you know, that's what he's topped out at and his
rehab stints. You know, the thing here is we need
he needs to be efficient. You know, he needs to
you know, throw strikes and get ahead of batters and
try to put him away and try to get through
these UH batteries as quickly as possible so that the
pitch count doesn't get up there. You know, I would

(02:26:03):
expect that he may be a little rusty because it's
his first time you know, back since the injury, and
so that's that that would be normal. But you know,
the key thing is to strike throwing component. I think
if he's if he's locked in and in his zone,
we'll see a good Arroghetti tonight.

Speaker 1 (02:26:19):
Have you seen enough from Javier to say he's ready?

Speaker 5 (02:26:24):
Yeah? Look like I said before, he's ninety four ninety
five with the velocity breaking ball looks good. His throwing
actions are good. The ball's coming out of his hand
very well. And yeah, I mean I would think that
one more start in the minors and you know he's
going to be ready. He looks really good.

Speaker 9 (02:26:44):
Are you how much how far behind in this and
in the race to get back up here is Garcia
from Javier?

Speaker 5 (02:26:52):
Yeah, I think he's probably a couple starts behind, two
starts behind him, so pretty close.

Speaker 9 (02:27:01):
Boy, what that's a good problem to have when you overload,
when you get those guys back going good, right, Dana,
I mean something you haven't had all year, and this
is it's got to be I know, make you a
little giddy, concerned obviously because you want it to be right,
But you got to be giddy. And part of the
reason not at the deadline to get somebody to have
a starting pitching staff, and now with that bullpen gives

(02:27:22):
you as formidable as in the league when they come
back and if they're right.

Speaker 5 (02:27:26):
Yeah, very excited about it because you know, you got
the two horses at the top with Brown and Valdez
and then now you throw in Arragetty, Hobber Garcia. I mean,
that's that's that sounds that's starting to sound like a
championship rotation there. And so the guys that have come

(02:27:47):
up has done a really good job. You know Alexander
the other night, you know, he was outstanding. We got
five from Blue Ball yesterday. So you know, even the
guys who have come up have really added to the mix.
And so, uh, you know, getting our guys back would
be pretty special.

Speaker 9 (02:28:05):
Data Brown asked his GM for a few more minutes
here on his weekly visit at nine thirty every single Wednesday. Data,
when did Carlos Korea jump into your guys radar? When
did you think it was feasible before this deadline?

Speaker 5 (02:28:19):
Yeah, I mean, look, we started to realize that, you know,
with predits being out and it being a significant you know,
hamstring strain, that you know, the possibilities were going to
be tough for him to come back. Uh, he decided
to do the rehab, which we're excited about, and we

(02:28:39):
think he's got a chance of getting back not sure
right now when, but there's an outside chance. And so
we put we put career on our radar and you know,
started talking to ownership about it because it was going
to cost some money. And so Jim Prain being committed
to you know, keeping the window open and winning, you know,
he was on board, and so you know, we dove

(02:29:01):
in and so that we felt like we we got
our leadership back. We got a guy back that's you know,
swinging the bat well for us right now, it can
really defend and the makeup and the leadership qualities are
off the chart, and so, uh, you know, this is
an exciting time for us right now. We're really we're
we're pumped.

Speaker 9 (02:29:21):
All right. The let me the elephant in the room.
I got to always ask how close are we with
the big left hander man? I mean, you said you
thought we could get him back in August. Are we
still on pace?

Speaker 3 (02:29:35):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (02:29:35):
So he's looking he's looking really well. I mean he
took a full batting practice on the field, and so
the whole thing now is we've got to increase the intensity.
So you go batting practice on the field, You'll do
some BP off the machine, you know, at a high
velocity and then you'll do some you know, some lives

(02:29:57):
off of pictures. And so I think he he's on
his way back. He's starting to be feels really good.
You want to increase the intensity, and as long as
he can get through this, you know he could be
back in the near future, which is, you know, a
good thing. The way our lineup is shaping.

Speaker 1 (02:30:12):
Up right now.

Speaker 5 (02:30:13):
Once we add Alvarez back into it, and then shortly
after that we'll add Myers back into it, I mean,
we'll be on all cylinders and this team will be
really ready to go. And so I like the way
it's coming together. It's a good time of year to
put this thing together and for all your guys to
come back to go on a nice run to win

(02:30:34):
the division and get deep into the postseason.

Speaker 9 (02:30:36):
Again, is there something other than the obvious, which we saw.
You wanted that left handed bat with pop and Sanchez
provides it and gives you good outfield play. Is there
something other than that that you loved about him, that
you said, Man, if we can pull this one off,
he's a great addition to our team. Or was it
just adding that left handed power that you wanted in
the order.

Speaker 5 (02:30:55):
No, that's a great question. So Sanchez is a really
good dude. I mean we like by his teammates, just
a good human being. And he's that guy John that
has upside. He had the upside to really get to
some more power. We think that, you know, talking to
Centron yesterday, he thinks he can get a little bit

(02:31:15):
more power out of him. So, uh, you know, you
you saw where he made a nice play the other
day on cutting the guy down at third base, and
so there's some upside here too. I mean, this is
a guy that's really developing and he's he's got a
little flair to him and uh yeah, he's well liked.
We got a chance to to you know, to get
this guy and to get him a little bit more power,

(02:31:38):
get the upside going, and uh we think this we've
got to have him for two more years after this. Yeah,
we're we're exciting about Sanchez, very excited.

Speaker 9 (02:31:48):
Dana is just as your with your baseball expertise. And
I know that'll be a decision you and Joe and
the organization makes moving forward. But paradus, what's playing great
baseball for you guys? He really was, and you you
know that hell you're the one who traded for him.
What kind of I guess a good problem. What happens
when he comes back? Well, well, where do you play him?

(02:32:09):
You've got a gold glove third basement? I think in Korea?
What do you do with paradis? Or is it a
good problem? Now that you you can move him around
in the infield, what do you do?

Speaker 5 (02:32:19):
It's a great.

Speaker 2 (02:32:19):
Problem to have.

Speaker 5 (02:32:20):
Uh, and we'll cross that bridge and we'll get there.
But you have to look at it this way too.
We have infielders. All of those guys could play multiple positions,
so you know, this would be a good problem to have.
And and then uh, you know, I just think, you know,
when he comes back, it's going to be a good thing.
And and and we'll figure that out when when he

(02:32:41):
gets back. But uh, he's going to be a big
part of his team. And uh and so are the
other guys, and so uh, you know, we we could
move someone to second base. But these guys have played
multiple positions over their career, and I think that's a
big part of it. And that's why these guys are

(02:33:01):
all like gold glovers. I mean, they're really good defenders
that you could move around and so yeah, it's going
to be a good problem to have, I promise it.

Speaker 9 (02:33:11):
Hey, Dan, all in with this. And you always talk about,
you know, catching the baseball, how important it is the defense,
And I kind of liking bullpens to great defenses in
football that got to get stops, got to get off
the field, got to get out of innings. How do
you feel about the leg The legs and arms are
well rested, blueball did a great job, as did your
bullpen giving you five yesterday. Where are you guys at

(02:33:34):
with your thought process on the bullpen and freshness?

Speaker 1 (02:33:38):
Are they where you want them to be?

Speaker 5 (02:33:40):
Yeah? So this is what the beauty of getting your
starter's back off the il going down the stretch. We
projected these starters will go deeper into the game given
our bullpen the rest that they need right before we
hit the final stretch and sprint to the end. And
so uh, this is this is gonna all play out.

(02:34:04):
I mean I have a vision of this playing out
where you get your starters back, they start to go
six seven innings each each time they give the bullpen arrest.
Those guys are well rested. The starters are coming off
being well rested because you know, they haven't pitched a
ton this year. They're coming off the I L. And
then now you give that pen a break and before

(02:34:26):
you know it, man, you're right down there running trying
to get to the stretch of winning the division and
getting to a stretch of deep into the postseason. So, uh,
this this is an exciting time for us, just getting
these guys back off the I L. H. This is
this has a chance to really all come together for us.
I give Joe and his staff and some of the

(02:34:50):
young players credit beholding this thing together while we were
going through.

Speaker 2 (02:34:55):
All those injuries.

Speaker 5 (02:34:56):
At one time we had eighteen guys on the IL. You.
I mean, I don't have tell you know you or
the fans how bad we were banged up, but we
were beat up pretty bad, and these guys all held
it together. And now it's time for it all to
come together and for us to get on a run
down the stretch.

Speaker 9 (02:35:11):
And I'd be remiss if I didn't just get this
in in thirty seconds. Dana, Lance mccollors health wise, where
is he and can we possibly see him in the bullpen?

Speaker 5 (02:35:22):
Yeah? Good question. So Lance, He's going to throw one
more side and then we are going to send him
out on a rehab and then after that rehab we
to see him back in the big leagues. And so
he's coming along nicely. You know, he's going to get
one more side, then he'll do that rehab start and

(02:35:44):
then we'll make a decision at that point. But he
should be ready to come back right after that rehab start.
And so even Lance is coming back. And so look,
this this thing is really, as I mentioned, really coming
together for us, and it's an exciting time and I'm
fired up for the organization and and for all of

(02:36:05):
our fans.

Speaker 1 (02:36:05):
Yeah, you should be.

Speaker 9 (02:36:06):
After all the injury nonsense, and to survive this and
still be in first place, it's gonna make for one
hell of a last third or so of this season.
Congrats on a great trade deadline and overcoming that the
three in Fenway and now getting back on that winning
streak and then headed the Yankee Stadium after today. We
appreciate you, good luck on the rest of this road trip.
We'll see you back here against Boston and we'll look

(02:36:26):
forward to our conversation next week.

Speaker 5 (02:36:29):
Absolutely, thanks Sean, Thank you, Beyon. Let's go Astro fans.

Speaker 1 (02:36:33):
There you go.

Speaker 9 (02:36:34):
Dana Brown phenomenal and has a great iph don Now
he's got to be giddy because they're getting people back
the way you need to. I know it was long,
but we need to hear. We'll come back quickly and
then well we'll send you on your way to the
next show. And Dan take it away. There we go
right here, Sean Salisbury Show, Sports Talk seven to ninety.

Speaker 4 (02:36:52):
The Sewan Salisbury Show continued, So Stros going for the
sweep today after beating the Marlins last night in the three.

Speaker 8 (02:37:01):
Jordon Alvarez back soon, hopefully hitting off coaches right now,
hitting on the field, but then they're gonna ramp them
up to machine then get the live pitching and hopefully
that means what based off that Seawn two weeks maybe hopefully,
And then he said, Jake Myers not too long after

(02:37:22):
that too.

Speaker 9 (02:37:23):
Uh it appears right now, Dan, sorry about that, my
Mike did. There's Jordon Myers, Garcia Arraghetty obviously, and Javier
and probably mcculors that you're gonna see every one of
them back.

Speaker 1 (02:37:43):
By the end of this month.

Speaker 8 (02:37:44):
Dude, I've told you there's going to be a player
or a couple of players that you're going to see
DFA that you're like, oh man, they can play.

Speaker 1 (02:37:52):
Yeah, yeah, there's no doubt they're gonna catch on with
somebody else.

Speaker 9 (02:37:55):
You know how that you hear people say, oh, it
was a numbers game in football at t at the
end of training camp.

Speaker 1 (02:37:59):
Literally, that's exactly right, yep. But it's a good problem
to have.

Speaker 9 (02:38:03):
It's just a bummer because somebody's going to miss out
on this stretch run unfortunately, but getting healthy something we
have not.

Speaker 1 (02:38:08):
Had here all year long. Good on Dana Brown, and you.

Speaker 9 (02:38:11):
Can tell in his voice there's a confidence and there
should be the Calvary's coming brother excitement for sure.

Speaker 1 (02:38:18):
Awesome, for sure.

Speaker 8 (02:38:19):
