Speaker 1 (00:02):
Salsbury.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Oh, Slisbury, you said, okay, let's do this.
Speaker 3 (00:08):
Sean Salisbury quarter Salesbury to usc Troupes, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury,
Dan Matthew, excuse, this is the Sean Salisbury show.
Speaker 4 (00:23):
Kelly to the center field barrels, back sheets, An the
Cooks shout of their summer, went back to back her
runs in the fifty Silzouki and Charlie took Chicago in
the lead.
Speaker 5 (00:42):
Crochet's one hundred and seventeenth pitch that's called type three
and bregnant down the line. That's a fair ball off
the load. He'll head to second. He will be in
there with the double and insurance. From Trevor's story, it's
(01:04):
three one red Sox Alex Pregman.
Speaker 6 (01:08):
Does it again to the Yankees. Swing in a line, drive,
ripped right, fail.
Speaker 7 (01:15):
Back on lead off hover, jo Hey OTODDI a lowe
lighter over the right field fenced and just like that,
the Dodgers theyke a one nothing leads.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
Joe Hay explodes immediately and they asked him why, and
he said, because I was feeling good. Well, that feels good.
Speaker 8 (01:38):
Look out, this may lead the park.
Speaker 6 (01:41):
Wow Otti second of the night and the Dodgers are
feeling great.
Speaker 1 (01:48):
It is eight nothing and he is something else. And
that is how postseason baseball without the Astro sounds. Well,
we say away we go. Good morning. Here on the
Sean Salisbury Show. We will get into a little bit
of Astros because we did get a little bit of
(02:09):
a glimpse of what the twenty twenty five twenty six
off season could look like for the team. But I
am going to echo Sean what Robert Ford said on
Twitter last night. Good baseball today. Up until the final game,
the last one, even though the Reds put up some
runs late in the game that was not competitive. The
Dodgers just completely crushed the Reds. But every other game
(02:33):
was funny enough. Watching as an Astros fan, you're like, oh,
we could have done this.
Speaker 8 (02:38):
Yeah, well yeah, you ain't scored one run. Yeah no,
I'm kidding, Yeah no, that's I mean, it's part of it.
Speaker 7 (02:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (02:47):
One, that's it's obvious that when you get great pitching,
you own them. I mean I went through and you know,
watched them all yesterday that time. I'm a huge I
love postseason baseball, even if my team's on it. Now,
my team, the Red Sox are in it, but you
go through and I was actually working our way back.
Was shocked at the lack of energy that the Reds
(03:08):
brought to the Chavez Ravine, weren't you.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
They almost seemed overwhelmed, Like as soon as Otani hit
that home run, it was kind of like, oh, yeah,
they've been here. When they go, they go, is it
two and one? Is that? Is it all three?
Speaker 2 (03:20):
No?
Speaker 1 (03:20):
They don't travel right when you're the wild card home team,
don't you.
Speaker 8 (03:23):
Got all three? If you're three, if you go to
three they have a higher seed, you got it. They stay.
It's not like they go I was thinking, I know
they don't go one one in one, but in three
game series they don't even go too and one. I
forgot when you get that's part of the being the
top wild card is you get the building for all three. Right,
So they looked overwhelmed to me. I don't know if
you felt the same way, but it just yeah, I
(03:44):
never saw that. And you know, Hunter, he's a good pitcher.
But the Dodgers did what well we expect the Dodgers
do starting in spring training, right, they hammered him, got
good pitching and the rest and actually one of the
problems of the Dodgers throughout.
Speaker 1 (03:57):
The season has been bullpen stuff, right.
Speaker 8 (03:59):
So they did it, even though gotta be careful in
the Red's got leat runs. That game was over pretty early.
But you're right after the Atani home run. But you
go down the starting Schooba was phenomenal, I mean phenomenal.
Then you back that up with uh who was Game two?
And I'm telling you, dude, I mean, you got a
great effort all the way up and down from the Cubs,
(04:20):
and you really got good pitching from the Padres except
for a couple of pitches. I mean, Pavetta was dude,
Pavetta was dealing. He was dealing, and that he was
doing a great job of elevating in the strike zone
and and he was he was pumping at ninety seven,
ninety eight. He was doing an unbelievable job. And what
two pitches. Suzuki hit one down, turned on one that
(04:43):
was down in the strike zone and in on the
inner part and hit it out. And then the next
hitter I can't remember, Kelly, Yeah, Kelly, but he went
up in the strike zone, remember, third time around, and
they got to Pavetta. He went up and got that
one up, the fastball up and hammered it. Which the
first five or so innings, six innings, Pavetta was spotting
(05:04):
that right there they couldn't catch up to but they
finally did, and so and then a Red Sox huge win,
huge one. But back back to the Padres real quick, dude.
Uh And and he's he's right now that there's of
all the active you know, the active streak with you know,
scoreless or hitless innings. Dude, what's his name? But the
(05:25):
bullpen guy pumps it. I put a tweet out last
night Robert Sores. No Padres. You got him in the
trade from Oakland, I mean not Oakland got him, Mason Miller, right, dude,
that dude is I mean, I've always known he's filthy.
He's on a good team when he's right, well, like, yes,
(05:46):
he's unhittable. The guy that was pumping at buck three
and you have zero shot and it wasn't pumping at
buck three no movement, I mean you can't. And if
you're looking at any other pitch, you you have no
shot because it's also got late life on it, right,
and then he throws this slider for strikes, dude, and
he hit, he paints he was I'm telling you they
(06:10):
had a couple of swings where they missed it by
four feet because if you're looking cheese and you can't
look anything else, right, you got to look and hopefully
foul off a slider. I mean, there's fifteen miles an
hour difference in the pitch and movements and movement and
statistically analytically, Mason Miller's best pitch is outpitch.
Speaker 1 (06:30):
His best pitch is the slider.
Speaker 8 (06:32):
It's not a buck three where you just like that
gets on you quick and with late late life, it
was watching him pitch and he's you know, not a
lot of wasted movement, just efficient and and he's also
got some attitude. Well on the last one when he
struck out the last guy, he's kind of he looked over.
Speaker 1 (06:49):
He goes shut the up, being.
Speaker 8 (06:50):
Like, you know, just just get your ass back to
the bingo bengo bongo, good morning, good afternoon, good night
out but he can pump it. And then the Red
Sox Yankees game another speaking of another great pitching performance,
you think, uh, you think that the old lefty in
Boston was any good last night?
Speaker 1 (07:07):
I was gonna say and you know, my high school
coach is a big Red Sox guy. He's from Wister. Yeah.
And I texted him afterwards and he was like, man,
he was nails, wasn't he? I said, this is probably no,
he just a big Red Sox yeah, just yeah, he's
just from up there and he's he's a massive Red
Sox fan. But I said, this is probably when you
guys got him. That was like when you got child
(07:27):
Crush four. Yeah, dude, that's exactly.
Speaker 8 (07:30):
And there he and now young fellas managers across baseball,
that's when a guy's going good, you don't pull him
out because he got to ninety seven pitches.
Speaker 1 (07:41):
See. And that's the funny thing is you know I
was talking about it with somebody this morning of Gary
Sheffield Junior on Twitter. It goes, uh, you know, good
on Boon for pulling. Uh you know Max freed to
preserve him for next March, right right, true, it is
a fact.
Speaker 8 (07:58):
I mean, you got him going good and you and
there wasn't even dude, he's one hundred pitches in anybody not.
Speaker 1 (08:02):
Like your bullpen is very good.
Speaker 8 (08:04):
Aaron, right, and he's not I mean with with Red Sox.
He's a one hundred pitches. Dude, there's nobody stirring up
in a bullpen and he's in double digit strikeouts pumping
it and so you know, gives up a couple, go
out and visit him. What's the guy do When I
say gives up a couple, I mean, you know, had
a little bit of stress walk, yeah, yeah, pumps it
(08:25):
one hundred with pitch one seventeen. And then Chapman got
into a little trouble.
Speaker 1 (08:30):
Boys. Chapman had a phenomena year. Dude.
Speaker 8 (08:33):
I mean you're seeing Crochet. Then you come back and
see another overpowering left to who's got more than one pitch.
I mean it's like you better, you better tee it up.
So it was the scooble Crochet watching Mason Miller come
out of the bullpen. We're in for a helified series
when he comes to all these and obviously Bregman getting
the clutch hit last night those socks, man, I love
(08:53):
this well.
Speaker 1 (08:53):
And you heard the Carl Ravage call too. As part
of our show open Bregman does it to the Yankees again,
and you're in the division.
Speaker 8 (09:01):
You get to do it to double digits times if
you auto all year log and now you get him
in the playoffs. So there was some great series, but
some it just goes to show you crochet through it
where he wanted, they couldn't touch him, and uh uh
scooble throw it where he wanted, couldn't get to him.
First one to three, Hell two to one, just like
we said, yeah, you precious runs, you get the three
with those guys pitching before you, you're winning, And both.
Speaker 1 (09:23):
Of them did.
Speaker 8 (09:25):
Uh, we're in for a not only a great wild
card part of it, I think we're in for one
hell of a postseason now.
Speaker 1 (09:30):
It was a great watch, and we definitely aren't from
the Yankee side. I mean, I think it was multifaceted
in terms of just the enjoyment of watching that. As
of course the ninth inning, they've got the bases loaded
and Stampon strikes out. Well you knew that was and
and they start booing and I'm like, oh yes, and
then I just love like with every out in the
ninth you see you see some of the fans out
(09:51):
there and the bleacher creatures and all of that, and
they're all just nervous as can be and like just
like looking like, oh man, this thing's getting away from us,
and it was just.
Speaker 8 (09:59):
Like and then you get to see this dude who's
first had like four closing categories this year in Major
League Baseball, come in and you know you're getting a hundi.
And after you get through the right hand or a
judge at the beginning, then you've got left handers coming
to the plate, which is playing right into his hand.
So played their hand right. Coora got through it right
and did the right thing with crochet. That's what he's
(10:21):
saving him for. Yeah, one hundred and seventeen pitches, no gripe.
He'll be fine. Okay, he'll still be great at the
end of his career. He's gonna be sae maybe.
Speaker 1 (10:29):
I mean it's also too like what he's like six
or eight and like yeah, whatever, it's like I think
he can handle it.
Speaker 8 (10:34):
He'll be fine. Okay, Oh, I can't get it. That's
fifteen more pitches than he'd throw most. And it's called
the playoffs too. I was going to say it's called
the postseason. You think a goaltender and hockey in the postseason,
he goes and stands on his head in Game one?
Speaker 1 (10:46):
Are they benching him that? Well, got to be tired.
Speaker 8 (10:49):
Sitting in his crouch the whole time, having, you know,
pucks flying at one hundred and sixty miles an hour
to say, oh man, he's tired. The dude just turned
away forty shots and pitched a shout out his ass
will be back gol tomorrow. Okay, so you know he's
done hundred. Oh get him out. Dude's pumping in ninety
nine and his last pitch, I loved it too, strikes
a guy out on a Hundi.
Speaker 1 (11:10):
Cora jumps up off.
Speaker 8 (11:11):
The dugout steps says, give me the bullpit, as if
to say, I'm sending even a louder message Yankee Stadium.
That's a Hundie at at pitch one p seventeen, okay,
and I don't how many times you get a hunred.
Last night, I think he topped out at one hundred
with that pitch. I want to see it in the night.
Speaker 1 (11:26):
I think I read somewhere that that was his fastest
pitch of the season.
Speaker 8 (11:30):
That's called ramping it up and knowing you're headed to
the to the bull I mean, to the dugout. No
one to get this guy out there going to the
bullpit after I'm sure they had the discussion you know
with Cora Bam go over there and you see him
Pat Kord like, yeah, thanks, Skip, I'm gonna go get
my rest. But you knew it, and like, I got
one more pitch and this is coming a Hundy and
I'm gonna spot at exactly where I want to, And
he did just that.
Speaker 1 (11:50):
I was gonna say, I mean, Austin Wells, that was
the best thing he could do is try to, you know,
fool the umpire and t oh, hey, give me that
for a ball the umpire.
Speaker 8 (11:58):
I was like, no, yeah, no, and you could with
all you want. It was a blatant strike painted where
you and a one hundred dude, he had no shot.
Speaker 1 (12:04):
It was almost like their catcher, is it Narvaia's Yeah,
Like it was almost like he didn't even move his
glove like it was he had him spotted right there
and it was just a hundred yep.
Speaker 8 (12:13):
Yeah, and he he would have it would have been
one hundred of coffee can dude.
Speaker 1 (12:16):
That's how.
Speaker 8 (12:17):
But you saw when when you get dominant pitching doing
what they did, and damn near every game either side
or both sides had hell of a pitch. I mean,
damn Max Freed was going too now he was, I mean,
Max Freed was like, you said, yeah, let's take him out.
Speaker 1 (12:32):
So r Socks are like, yeah about that, I said,
I said, as soon as you start going to that bullpen,
and that the Yankees don't add on to this, it's
going to be trouble for them.
Speaker 8 (12:43):
Yes, and sure enough, and you the Yankees were begging
for the Red Sox to go to the bullpen. I mean,
I know it's a better bull I mean their bullpen's
a little more sound, but begging him to go to
the bullpen, like, please get this guy out of Yeah,
I'm sure they're pitch counting to always at ninety eight.
He's got he can't go much longer. And then he
keeps mowing you down down. It gives you used to
send you out those you see note on the way
out to the dugout. Thanks, cor gets to the dugout. Unfortunately,
(13:05):
the guy backing him up throws a hundi as well.
Speaker 1 (13:07):
So pretty cool, and the clown memes of Aaron Boone
were flying hot and heavy on Yankee Twitter. It was
pretty funny.
Speaker 8 (13:13):
Give me one more, get a few days rest, now,
I was gonna say one, but that's the same time
today or they change times.
Speaker 1 (13:19):
I'm not sure all the times. I'd have to look
at that. But still, I mean, I, like I said earlier,
I agree with what Robert Ford said, it was exciting baseball.
It's just it's it's a bummer that you don't get
to see the home team part of it. But speaking
of the home team, like I said, we got a
little glimpse of what to expect in the present and
in the future with the Astros and Dana Brown, Joe
(13:41):
a spot a meeting with the media yesterday. Let you
hear a couple of things from them as we're just
getting going here on a Western Wednesday, Sean Salisbury Show
Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 9 (13:53):
Of this high fastball caller's junior review is just an
Astros You're listening to Sean Salisbury on Sports Talk seven.
Speaker 2 (13:59):
Nine Callers, how about the performance.
Speaker 1 (14:02):
Your home for Houston Astros baseball? Some one three, two,
one two five, seven ninety is the number to get in?
What do you got?
Speaker 10 (14:09):
Uh?
Speaker 8 (14:10):
Sitting youre thinking if you were a the way the
Texans have played sans a few quarters, offensively for the
most part, right.
Speaker 1 (14:17):
Defensively, y'all. I'll take them. That defense travels.
Speaker 8 (14:21):
Okay, they got to tackle better in the run game,
but they're fixable, right because they're really good. Matter of fact,
I haven't even looked at the statistics after this, but
there's got to be a case that they're giving up
about as minimal points as anybody in the league is.
Speaker 1 (14:34):
Right now. I want to say somebody did say what
the tail of the tape is in terms of what
the Ravens do as opposed to what the Texans defensively do.
I think the Ravens were like, that's not even close.
Thirty second and something in the Texans were number one, Yeah,
and I knew they were.
Speaker 8 (14:47):
They're there right now overall, just because especially in points,
they've got to be there because nobody's off. They're getting
beat by teams that aren't even scoring a lot. Yeah,
they get beat so and they're giving up points. That's right, Tons,
that's right. So you take that to the ball Baltimore,
the way the defense so it travels, and not worried
about them, especially backup quarterback. While Cooper Rush can win,
your game plan can be scaled down because you do
(15:09):
not have to. Your practice becomes a lot I don't
want to say easier. It becomes a lot mentally simpler
because you don't have Lamar Jackson's feet.
Speaker 1 (15:16):
Well, there's that, but I mean it's also though too.
I mean, we were talking about Away for the offense,
is they go they're banged up. Oh, that's my next point.
Speaker 8 (15:23):
If you were a big point about this is with Away,
your own team's playing offensively. There is no better time
to get the Ravens than now.
Speaker 1 (15:32):
Now.
Speaker 8 (15:32):
If Lamar Jackson was playing, and you were telling me
a couple of those defensive players were going to be
back healthy, fully healthy this week in Baltimore. Now, I'd
say after having their ass handed to them by a
couple of good teams, I'd say you might be running
into a hate to use the phrase a hornet's nest
or a buzzsaw, because they are going to because they
realize they are treading on thin ice as far as
(15:53):
playoffs going.
Speaker 1 (15:53):
They lose this, they're one and four.
Speaker 8 (15:55):
Yeah, and guess what, and guess what the Steelers win
and what they're four and one, and the way they're
playing right now, they're playing like the best team in
the division. And Rogers looks like Aaron Rodgers. So you
do not want to do this now, and then they're
not conceding with Rush because Cooper Rush did some good
things as a back up with the game, and we've
seen Carson Wentz. Backups are putting up a few numbers
in different places, and especially ones that have been in
(16:17):
the league, and Cooper Rush will understand what they're trying
to do.
Speaker 1 (16:21):
Now.
Speaker 8 (16:21):
It ain't gonna be easy. Wouldn't be easy for Lamar
Jackson against this defense, but during your practice week, you
don't have to defend the full field. Now in the
quarterback run game I'm talking about, Cooper Rush ain't beating
you with his feet. Now he may buy a little time.
You know the point he is not beating you with
his feet. It's gonna be ball out on time. All
those things you're trying to get accomplished, so this is
(16:42):
a good time to get them, especially when that quarterback's
not playing. So now you got two choices. You can
go in there and say, oh, Lamar's not playing and
take a sigh of relief, or you better go in
there and say we are one and three and a
one and four loss and a Colts win. We're not
winning the division. It's just too that that feels quite
better than you could have ever thought. Yeah, And to
(17:05):
be honest with you, I thought Liam Cohen feels like
he just wants to be a bro with the guys.
And then and now they're winning. Listen, I may think
he's cheesy, but that doesn't matter. What matters is can
you coach xes and o's, can you lead? And are
your players buying in? If they're buying in, nobody else
is oh, well, we've seen that movie before under franchises,
so this is huge. But there's no time they've ever
(17:27):
played the Baltimore Ravens in there in the last I
don't know, they never won the right. But every time
about where you go in you say, whoa, there's no
time going in where you feel like.
Speaker 1 (17:37):
You should be the favorite. Now it should be.
Speaker 8 (17:40):
Now offensively, people look and say, man, you're off your
your injury. The way you're playing on offense doesn't even
give you an advantage over the way that deef. I mean, however,
many injuries on there and now it's it's equal. But
you've never run into the Ravens in the last decade,
a less physical team and a morphinesse team than them. Defensively,
right now, with these injuries, they're not good. Look at
the numbers. They're getting gashed. So if you want to
(18:02):
get right, this would not normally be a game you'd say,
I'm going to get right. This would be one, dude,
you better grind it out. It's going to be a
fistfight and a slug fest, and you better bow your
neck and realize if you come out of this and
you win twenty three to twenty, enjoy the hell out
of it because it's gonna be hard to come by. Now,
this one, you can hang forty in there building on
that defense right now. Now, I'm not sure this offense
(18:22):
can yet say, but this is the first time that
they've gone to Baltimore in a decade where I would
have thought or longer or I would have thought, yeah,
and you've got a chance to hang on this defense,
because normally it's like if you turn it over that
you've got no shot, and so but this is one
I'm thinking you shouldn't go in there fearing it all,
(18:42):
and you should go in there saying I can get right.
This is usually not a get right team. This is
usually a grinded out team, meaning the Ravens. This is
a good time but I wouldn't overlook a backup who's
wants to make a difference with the way that offense
is playing. Baltimore's offense isn't exactly tearing it up. I
would like to see that they're capable with their bandwidth.
(19:03):
But now Cooper Rush will nowhere to throw it, and
that's a big part of it. But advantage Texans quite
frankly on both sides of the ball. And you ain't
saying that much this year.
Speaker 1 (19:13):
Now, and we'll see if they are able to actually
live up to said expectations used throughout because I do
have a concerning this game. Concerned about the Texans, Yes, yes,
very much. Do you are you? I mean, how concerned?
What's the level of concern? I would say it's probably
about an eight out of ten. Eight out of ten. Yeah,
(19:34):
that's where you're at right with this? Well, I mean, okay,
we'll do it now. You wanted to save it, yeah, yeah,
and we'll save the Joe and Dana. But you know,
just because we're rolling on this, we'll go with it.
Look at Carolina in year one. Did you go in
the Carolina thinking you're going to lose that game? Well,
that came out of a bye week too, well, two weeks.
Speaker 8 (19:53):
So there you go, right, all right, So against a
team that there's an inferior opponent, a.
Speaker 1 (19:58):
Struggling rookie quarterback which it wasn't necessarily about Bryce Young
that day, Frankie Luvo and that defense they handled you
all right last year at home against Tennessee. Did you
think that Will Levis was gonna be able to gash you?
And did you think that Will Levis was going to
be able to crush you the way he did? My man,
that was a hard one to take. Well, but my
point is you've got a really good offensive coordinator over there,
(20:19):
and Todd Munkin and oh, by the way, you've got
Dereck Henry who's not having a really good year by
his standards. That don't you think he wants to get
going against a team that, against Tampa Bay a couple
of weeks ago, did not stop the run well whatsoever.
So I just I get what you're saying about no
Lamar and being banged up on defense. It's one hundred
percent not because this is a team that's also fighting
(20:41):
for their season and a head coach that's been there
for damn near twenty years embarrassed on a thousand and
they're on their home field. So I just I think
that every bit in every fiber of Demiko Ryans and
his staff this week has to be do not take
this team lightly.
Speaker 8 (20:59):
Because listen, hardball is gonna He's gonna play that. You
guys have been humiliated card we all have. I mean
not to dog his team, but he's gonna ride that
pony and I would too, and he's gonna ride the
We're hurt, we're banged up. Everybody's questioned us, our quarterbacks out,
what are you guys going to do? They're gonna Walton
here thinking that that, oh this is gonna be an
easy one because oh they're banged up and we're not
(21:21):
playing good on defense. We struggled on offense. We're one
and three, but we'll go find out. And he's going
to test their character. Man, I'm just telling you, And
let's not forget if I'm them Cooper Rush throwing at
twenty twenty, I am doing everything I can.
Speaker 1 (21:34):
Derek Henry is getting forty carries. I'm dead serious.
Speaker 8 (21:37):
He's going to look like Rabel dude, Tennessee, when's the
last time they stopped Derek Henry anywhere exactly so, and
you saw if they a couple of years ago they did. Yeah,
but most of the time, dude, he is he's the
for running backs, He's the the wide receiver for the Colts.
Speaker 1 (21:54):
What was uh, Marvin Harris.
Speaker 8 (21:57):
I t Y Hilton I was gonna call t L
t Y Hilton dominated the Texans. He had a career
against them. One is and one is sometimes a vow, right,
So there you go. See he had a career against
the Texans. Him every time he came, he had a career.
His career was damn near elevated by his performance against
the Texans and Derrick Henry. You got to wear them
(22:18):
out because you know now that the threat is last day.
Should just Derrick Henry right now has to be the focus.
Now you got to quid lay in the ball on
the ground. But they are going to test their front
seven well round the ball they are, which the dangerous
part is you keep doing that. They're going to take
some play action shots down the field. But could rush
knowing that you lose the bandwidth of Lamar Jackson's feet. So, oh, dude,
(22:42):
I'm just saying, if you're the Texans, this is a
great time if you're prepared. This is a great time
to get the Ravens because if they get fully healthy
and pissed, you probably don't want to play them in December.
If you probably don't, this is a good time because
I don't see that the Ravens being a four and
thirteen team. At some point they're he's going to kick
in so and it may very well because he's going.
Speaker 1 (23:02):
To preach the we're an underdog.
Speaker 8 (23:05):
I don't know what if they're an underdog in their building,
but it's going to be pretty close. The people are
talking about we we're the ones who are desperate right now. Yeah,
two desperate teams, they really are. Say what you want,
but desperation does kick in this early. I'm anxious to
see how both teams deal with it. But I wouldn't
take Baltimore's toughness for granted, even though physically they're they're
awfully finesse.
Speaker 1 (23:23):
This year, well, I mean it has shown in the
first few weeks, no doubt Buffalo able to come back
and beat them. And then last week, I mean, the
Chiefs looking like the Chiefs that we expected them to
look like. And yeah, Texans one and a half point
favorite on the road.
Speaker 8 (23:39):
When's the last time a one in three team waltzed
into Baltimore. I don't care if it's a text any
about a one and three team went into Baltimore. They
play in Baltimore. Correct, Yes, I was gonna say, Man,
Hopefully I'm not wrong. Next the road, they play in Baltimore.
When's the last time a one in three team went
into Baltimore as the favorite? I'll bet you you haven't
(24:02):
seen that since Lamar Jackson's been the quarterback.
Speaker 1 (24:04):
No, I mean, I can't even maybe like the early years.
Speaker 8 (24:10):
Last decade, ain't no way you could. If it is,
I'd be shocked. I talk I'm talking about, not talking
about undefeated tea. I'm talking about a one in three
team on the road coming into your building and you're
a Super Bowl candidate supposedly, and they're favored. I'd keep
an eye on that line. If you're a better over
the next few.
Speaker 1 (24:27):
Weeks, it's gonna be interesting to see if there's any movement,
especially if the Sharps, say Texans on the road. I'm
not so sure, but hopefully they are able to pull
it off on that Sunday. We'll continue to talk to
them also too, as I mentioned Dana Brown Joe spot
of meeting with the media yesterday. Was it these guys
fault that this did not go well in twenty twenty

Speaker 1 (27:00):
The Sean Soundsbury Show continued. One of the things, Sean,
that we talked about, and I'd even ask, and I
first started off, and you know, the first part of
this answer was Joe, when I asked about all the
numbers being down this year, is that overly concerning? Is
it something that tells you that changes need to be made?
Any of those things? Joe gave his answer, but this
(27:22):
was Dana's answer to that very question.
Speaker 11 (27:26):
I mean, anytime you get your and I miss in
four months, you get peritis missing two months, you get
Pinion missing a month and a half, you get Myers
missing two months, I mean your numbers are going to
be down. You know, those are everyday major league players
that you don't have on your team.
Speaker 12 (27:43):
And so.
Speaker 11 (27:45):
You know we'll address, you know, some of the things
like taking more pitches and being a little bit more selective.
But make no mistake, when you take pillars out of
your lineup, it's going to affect your team. It's going
to affect some of their at bats. When you're and
I On Altarez is in a lineup, you have to
pitch him, you have to pitch guys around them differently,
And so I think the absence of yourd on really
(28:09):
affected us big time.
Speaker 1 (28:11):
All right, So for the fire Alex Centrone, which semantics wise,
you would not be firing Alex Centron, you just would
not be bringing him back. Every single assistant coach is
on one year deal, so it would be the old
he was not retained. At least from listening to that
right there, Sean, it does not seem like that is
something that they're seriously considering, because they even had said
(28:33):
that they're early on in the evaluation process, that you know,
only forty eight hours after the season, which then there
was part of me was like, okay, well then why
the rush to do this today. If that's the case,
you don't have to I mean you would think so,
and I don't one I have to answer that just
well you don't have to answer it yet. But also
though too, I mean maybe those conversations are just in
the infancy of starting. So yeah, you can't evaluate they
(28:56):
just finish lesson all right, So then you don't want
you know, Alex Centron or Troice Nicker, anybody calling you
and being like, hey, you know, dude, I just got
wind of this, Like, are you guys thinking of making
a change, which, look, coaches also know they have either
other people who are in the business or maybe even
representation at safe right, you know, just want to let
you know, like, because I mean you see it all
(29:17):
the time. Hey, why'd that guy leave for that job?
We left for that job because he knows that the
guy that has the job right now as the head
coach is going to get fired. So if that happens,
then he has to scramble and try to find one
as opposed to you go with a golden parachute and
you go take another job.
Speaker 8 (29:32):
Yeah, I did anybody ask him if they're retaining there's
their current staff?
Speaker 1 (29:38):
Interesting enough, because Joe A. Spotta talked about that very thing.
Speaker 13 (29:42):
Yes, I think there is areas, you know, offense of
where we can improve on.
Speaker 1 (29:47):
You know, I think throughout.
Speaker 13 (29:48):
The year we made some adjustments and we got vetter
in center areas. But that's I think that's an area
that we as a organization need to look into.
Speaker 1 (29:57):
How can we have belle quality up bat, how can we.
Speaker 13 (30:00):
Improve on getting on base more frequently and and and
be better throughout the entire season.
Speaker 1 (30:08):
So that means we're going to evaluate it. Yeah, yeah,
it's still it's still being talked about, still being looked at.
I mean I brought up the example numerous times of
Kevin Seitzer, who was the hitting coach this year in Seattle.
Would you say that probably his career solid career too? Right?
He did, and he and he had a good, solid
hitting coach career with the Braves. But then the Braves
(30:30):
finally got to a point where they said, we're kind
of stalling out here a little bit. We need need
a different voice in that hitting room and and with
these guys around the cage. So they sent him on
his way, same deal, didn't retain him. He goes to Seattle.
He's in Seattle. Oh, I don't know. I mean cal Rawley,
would you say he had a career year? Would you
say that Julio Roderiguez started to look like.
Speaker 8 (30:51):
The guy that people thought everybody So you're going to
give sites of the same credit you did when you
give him the blame, right you know he's.
Speaker 1 (30:56):
Well, yeah, absolutely, I do.
Speaker 8 (30:57):
But people who sure, sometimes a new voice not only
is good for the team, but sometimes new venue is
good for the coach. Well in both of those new years, right,
And that's the thing is I mean, where we saw
offensive regression last year and the same deal or non
Kyle Tucker all of that.
Speaker 1 (31:13):
I get that you can't keep going that route, right
because you still have jose L two Vay in this lineup.
You still have Christian Walker in this lineup, You still
have unity bingo and that's fine. But at the same time,
I mean, you still have guys that should be able
to elevate the other guys in this lineup.
Speaker 8 (31:30):
You're at the point too, with a lot of those
names you just named. Did a hitting coach is a
small tinker. It's not a you know though you can
put it this way, jose al Tuova, at the stage
of his career should, and I believe does, know how
to self correct. I tell quarterbacks that all the time.
Speaker 1 (31:47):
I said.
Speaker 8 (31:47):
The one thing if I ever if I don't teach
you anything else, anything else, you know, you know the
mechanics of the position, all that leadership and what it
all mess. If I don't teach you anything else other
than number one, make sure, you're a teammate, but when
it comes to playing, if I don't teach you anything else,
I'm gonna teach you how to self correct. Because when
(32:08):
I'm sitting with your father and mother in the stands
fifteen rows, twelve rows up on a Friday night and
your coach has got a game plan in, we can't correct.
I can't yell down, hey man, get to your second read.
You don't want to hear that anyway. That's like talking
in somebody's back swing. Go play. That's why all that
preparation under self correct. That's why these guys on the
(32:29):
golf tour can snaphook a drive and they know exactly
when they're walking to their ball what happened. If you
can do that as a pitcher, as a hitter, as
a quarterback, then the length of your slump doesn't last.
You can listen, if you had to face school all
the time, you're gonna be in slumps.
Speaker 1 (32:46):
Dude.
Speaker 8 (32:46):
You guys, guys like you don't want to fake crew
face face crochet. I mean, you're facing the guy in
front line. They'll go get you most of the time.
And it's the same thing here. So you know, I
know we all want to got to go get it. Well,
what a centron somewhere else? And all of a sudden
they're raking the best hitting case. You never know what
that's right. So it just depends. And sometimes players need
(33:07):
new voice, and sometimes the coach needs new ears. It
just happens all the time. Everybody's speech at times gets
a little bit old and and stale, not old.
Speaker 1 (33:16):
And you move on and that's okay.
Speaker 8 (33:18):
How many times is Mike Maddox, who is one of
the great pitching coaches in all the baseball how many
different franchisees he pitched for? I mean, call Texas rangy,
he's been. Maddox has been at a few places, and
managers hold him in I regard and sometimes you know,
it works better for others. So it's a it's a
hard job. But I also you got to put some
of it on. I think that at this stage at
(33:39):
car Carlos crea while a little tinkering. That's why golf
great golf to Scheffler as his guy around. But do
you think that Scheffler needs Randy Smith to tell him
at whole five? Hey man, you know what you're You're
a little late to the golf ball I mean the reminder,
but in truth, Scheffler knows he's doing that on the raid.
That's the he knows that's exactly right. And then when
you get on the first t box, dude, if I
(33:59):
need your advice while I'm playing, other than a caddy
saying hey, there's win there that your stock five iron.
It hit that because you're a club long and it'll
be perfect here because it's uphill. Well fine, so yeah,
that's it. Be your your swing coach.
Speaker 1 (34:13):
Ain't ain't ain't.
Speaker 8 (34:13):
Overloading you with a three x five card in your
head telling you do this. You're going through your routine
and then you'll correct after or before the next round
of the range after so same thing here, So we'll see.
But the evaluation process is good and in truth, if
you really want to know if the players are being fair,
find out how they feel. Do they feel they're getting
better and it's not on the hitting coach then not
(34:36):
that they're going to make the decision, but you'd kind
of like, I mean, if I'm quizzing a sales staff
of if their sales manager leading them the right way
and they all say yes, why would I change that
that I'm coming upon them to make the players have
to adjust themselves as well.
Speaker 1 (34:51):
That's exactly what I was going to say, adapt and adjusts.
That's all part of the game. One other burning question
for the astros that might have been answered yesterday. We'll
let you hear them as we continue along here on
a Western Wednesday edition Shawn Salisbury Show, Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 14 (35:06):
Let the celebration start war Sewn Salisbury.
Speaker 2 (35:11):
It's a Sewan Salisbury Show.
Speaker 8 (35:14):
Was there a doubt that Matt Thomas knows every game
show host since nineteen sixty five?
Speaker 1 (35:21):
If if he could come back to life as the
New Age Bob Barker, he would. If he could go
back and those game show hosts could be paid, oh
absolutely huge. I mean think about it too higher or lower?
I mean, you know, just just think about It's one
of those two that I think about.
Speaker 8 (35:36):
That's got some clever one liners. Be a good game
show host, I think, and he'd and he'd know the
history of it, he knows. Hey what's my line? Oh yeah,
I got that guy. I mean I said, hey, what's
the one? Oh he goes? I mean Alan Leaden and
Betty White. Yeah, I don't think it was. What's my
line was? What's my thing? That was once my line?
I can't remember, but anyway, yeah, Hollywood Squares. Maybe I
don't know. Oh no, it wasn't Hollywood Squares. That's ah well,
(36:00):
there's one game show I care with. The long skinny mic?
Was Geene Rayburn? Remember him?
Speaker 1 (36:03):
Was Christmas? Was Marshall?
Speaker 8 (36:05):
Was it?
Speaker 12 (36:05):
Mark?
Speaker 1 (36:06):
And everybody? Everybody seems to think that the long skinny
mic was was Barker. Well, but I'm saying that's sad.
But what's his name? Geene Rayburn? Had he?
Speaker 8 (36:14):
He did the same thing that was kind of in
fashion for me? What was my point coming out of
this singing country?
Speaker 13 (36:20):
Ye?
Speaker 1 (36:21):
So that was that? Who was?
Speaker 7 (36:23):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (36:23):
I was the voice.
Speaker 8 (36:24):
I watched it the first season years ago, but I
haven't watched I watched clips. When somebody says you got
to see this guy and you see a clip, Well,
Rieba was in tears the other night. This dude comes
on from I think he's from Tennessee and his wife
and two I mean cute young daughters or there. They're
dressed to the nines and watching their pops with a
big old spile. He's out there picking his guitar and
(36:46):
I think one of the great songs of all time
is and I'm a big Craig Morgan fan.
Speaker 1 (36:51):
Almost Home.
Speaker 8 (36:52):
That's a tough one to sing, especially if you're trying
to say it like that. Dude, Dude, he goes in
there and watched the clip of it. He stands up
there and starts in on almost Home. She wasn't twenty
seconds in. Turned her chair around, and then Stoop does
the same thing, and she's tearing up. She goes, I
felt like I was going that I was home. And
(37:13):
I'm telling you, do yourself a favor, because I always
liked listening to New York. This guy's he hit this
first verse of almost Home. He was a Grand Slam
upper tanker. And so go if you like good music
and like Craig Morgan, you like somebody who can cover
something pretty damn good. Goless when she's crying. It's hard
(37:34):
to make that tough woman cry, you know what I'm saying.
And Snoop wanted him too, and he goes, well, the
kids were, I mean, you would have thought that their
pops hung in the moon, came down, grabbed a few stars,
and bought them had every Christmas preathent they wanted, and
they were, and I love seeing it, not even just
the dad that can sing his ass off, but when
I see the response, because man, they'll never forget watching
(37:55):
their pops. And Craig Morgan's almost home, but he hit
it and she was in tears, and he chose. He goes, man,
I'm sorry, Snoop. Basically, I love you, but I got
to go with the You know, they got to go
with the Queen. You have to so good on him.
But that's one of my favorite songs. And that was
a hell of a cover. And I'm a big Craig
Morgan Guy's aged well. By the way, Reba's spice is
going to keep her alive, just like Dolly till they're
like four hundred. Now, Dolly Parton, let's make sure her
(38:18):
health gets done right, because what a great sense of humor.
She's delayed her residency in Vegas just for a little
bit to get her health right because she said, I
don't want to you guys paying big money. I want
to make sure I'm thinking about it. They well, they
sure as hell do. And Reba's at the top of that.
Not only she aged well, when you're that stubborn and tough,
that that's why. And it shall be one hundred singing
(38:40):
and telling people, you know, running the show. And the
older she gets, the even more country your voice gets.
Have you ever noticed she dives into eventually she's going
to be talking so well, why because you mean Reba's
is normal? Yeah, I'm getting I think Ladies is to.
Speaker 1 (38:55):
She dials it up. I think she's got it, But
I just I think that she really dials it up.
She was on with THEO Vaughn and it was I
couldn't get through five minutes. Oh really, It's just I
was like, oh God, like gross, I can't do this. Well,
maybe you know, isn't that part of her spice?
Speaker 10 (39:11):
Though?
Speaker 8 (39:12):
Well, no, I understand, I understand it in country. Yeah,
it's it's it's the gimmick and you live the gimmick,
but like she lives the gimmick and it's she.
Speaker 1 (39:22):
Plays it to the hill.
Speaker 8 (39:23):
Yes, that maybe from like I'm like they like you,
you're you're almost like sounding more like you're from like
Tennessee or Georgia and not from Louisiana. Like there is
a little bit of it in Louisiana, especially the northern parts,
but it's like stop stop, like it's too much, the accidents,
too country for somebody from Louisiana, way.
Speaker 1 (39:45):
Too dialed up. And look, I can do it too,
and I like, if I'm around some of my family
from the Golden Triangle, I can do it too. But
like I mean, I got it in me, trust me,
I do. Yeah.
Speaker 8 (39:57):
No, No, there's nothing worse than somebody tries to talk
like something they're not. What do you think, Lanny do
she's in studio? What if what if you said that
to her?
Speaker 3 (40:05):
He?
Speaker 1 (40:05):
Would you do? Would you know? I've been talking like
this mon Tiler? I think if she came in studio,
she is. She's a female, She's the female Dabbo Sweeney
maybe a little bit a little bit. She's where is
right now? I'll tell you what, man, We we won
a lot of games around here. And if that ain't
good for people, I don't know what to tell you.
Speaker 8 (40:24):
Dabo is the closest thing as far as like the
motivational speech stuff. When he's talking, he's like.
Speaker 1 (40:29):
What do you think? We're three and one? Yeah, you're
gonna fire me? Do you have you seen my record?
I mean, you know, I'm basically football coaching.
Speaker 8 (40:36):
Franklin graham Man yeah, you know, he he got Lou Holtz,
the Lou Holtz motivation. You know what I've said he
does speaking of Lou Yeah, to coach the Ryder Cup
and Chefsky. I didn't even intend for rhyme that, but
I did. Losing the news. Bill's doing a lot of
social media politics stuff.
Speaker 1 (40:54):
Now he's tearing it up politics, but it's also too
it's takes like this and I'm like.
Speaker 8 (40:58):
Yeah, yeah, it out there that that's one of those.
It'll get some response, that's for sure. But what if
Lanny came in here? I would have to ask her,
Oh yeah, I would actually say okay, now, Ty, I
say talk in your normal voice, and I have her
sing a few bars for us.
Speaker 1 (41:12):
You know, but that's the thing they're talking like. I'd
be curious off air like how it is, because it's
like if you ever have wrestlers on the show with you,
is off air normal like you know, it's just like, well,
you can't even get him to talk. These are regular guys, yeah,
I mean, like we had Daniel Brian and Kane at
one spot I went to and like, Daniel Brian is
a big sports fan, Kine is too big Tennessee everything,
(41:35):
And then it was funny that as soon as we said,
we were back right in the character. Sure, right, he's
like a good comedian, right, Yeah, but they wrest the best.
Otherwise they just like want to just be kind off
alone and do I don't blame him, but then that
personality kicks, and that's called being a good entertainer. But
I'm just curious if she's got three voices, one when
she's talking to us, two when the MIC's on it
(41:56):
she's talking to us, and three when she sings or
and if she does, I wonder if she's yeah, I
wrap it up a little bit. Yeah, Yeah, I'm gonna
pu whatever she's doing, she should probably keep doing it
because she's winning. I mean Ford commercials. You know.
Speaker 8 (42:12):
That's waur I feel like you're from here, even though
you don't even know where from here he is.
Speaker 1 (42:16):
Now she'll be ta Keto's for life. Oh for good.
Speaker 8 (42:18):
You can add a feedback to that, ask, couldn't she?
I think she's good picking it up? Yeah, you like
a flyting up, you like a thicker. Yeah, well then
it's she's lost a lot of weight, dude, She's trimmed
it up a little bit. No, she she might need uh,
you know, she'll be fine. Just drop a little drop,
a little taketo in there, like you said, tketo. Matt
(42:40):
Thomas saying that's fine, that's fine, that's fine. But she's
winning now.
Speaker 1 (42:43):
She is.
Speaker 8 (42:43):
I can promise you that now she is everything she
touches turning. She's on about eight hundred collabs right now.
I was gonna see everybody wants to say, Yeah, every
single day I turn it on, There're they're, they're Megan Maroney,
they're all.
Speaker 1 (42:56):
Good for them collabing, good for them. You and I aren't.
Anybody's collab Oh well, not yet at least all right.
So the burning question for the astros that a lot
of you want to know. I mean, we covered the
hitting coaches thing. What about the other burning question. We'll
discuss that here. Sean Salisbury show, k b E Houston,
k t V HD two Houston, my heart radio station.
Speaker 14 (43:15):
Yes that's a rocket. This is Sports Talk seven ninety
your home for your home teams.
Speaker 15 (43:24):
From the Parsons that match next Studios, Saulsbury, sy Hoon.
Speaker 2 (43:36):
Okay, let's do this.
Speaker 3 (43:38):
Sewn Salisbury to usc Tropes, longtime friend Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 14 (43:44):
Dan Matthewscus this is the Seawan Salisbury show.
Speaker 1 (43:53):
It really is.
Speaker 16 (43:53):
It's a great today every single Western Wednesday be able
to have some great country Western music. I'm a I'm
a big Nashville guy, huge Nashville guy. Although there was
a guy down in Texas who once used to say
Nashville sucks.
Speaker 1 (44:07):
Oh it's the greatest country song. It's the greatest.
Speaker 16 (44:12):
It's the golden age of country music. Although I can't
say that with a straight face because it's just not
what do you say, guys? Now you have guys in
country music bands that looked like years ago they would
have been part of iggy pop.
Speaker 8 (44:25):
Both peop were like it was oh yeah, yeah, like
I good reference by you.
Speaker 1 (44:30):
What would he say though about the strongest military? What
would he say? What was it militarization or militarizing. I
can't remember exactly how he said it, but he said
something like along those lines, the greatest military in the world.
We will not have to be ruled by fear, but
if we have to, then we will will be.
Speaker 16 (44:52):
The safest country in the world because of what they're
doing with our military.
Speaker 1 (44:57):
That's what we will do, all right. The Texans backing character.
Now Texans back to work getting ready for the Ravens
Sunday in Baltimore. Lamar Jackson, according to the Baltimore paper
up there, he's gonna miss this in at least the
next game, So we could be out the next two
or three weeks and the Tigers, Cubs, Red Sox, and
(45:18):
Dodgers all win their game. One let's hear from Dana Brown,
because so we talked about the staff, you know, any
changes that could be made, because I mean, I think
we can agree Josh Miller ain't going anywhere. I'm sure
Tony Paris, Chica is not going to go anywhere. You know,
Dave Clark, did anybody necessarily have a problem with the
first base coach, how he coached this year and how
he helped out the outfielders. I'm sure the answer is
(45:39):
probably no to that. So I think we know who.
We're talking about staff changes. But the other one medical.
You've asked about potential medical changes before.
Speaker 8 (45:48):
Dana will continue to be asked about potential medical changes,
and well, as a matter of fact, no time like
the President, he was asked yesterday about said thing.
Speaker 2 (45:57):
Look, I think this is.
Speaker 11 (45:58):
An industry why issue with the injury and injuries and
you know, but like everything else, we're gonna you know,
take a look at you know, every one of our departments,
right and so just to make sure that we're not
missing anything. But I think we have these industries. The
injuries are industry wide, and there's you know, there's guys
(46:22):
throwing harder, there's guys chasing spin. I don't think there's
a magic bullet to why there's so many injuries. I
know we were affected big time from it, and I
think it cost us, you know, you know, the postseason
because of all the injuries. You know, one I figured
we two or three more wins with I we had
all of our guys. But I don't think there's a
(46:44):
magic bullet, you know. And as for just you know,
taking a look at this, we'll take a look at
every department, you know, uh, in baseball operations.
Speaker 1 (46:55):
So pretty much the way that the entire thirty plus
minutes went yesterday with questions with Joe and Dana is
a lot of generalities. There was no definitive answers to anything.
Didn't really have a chance to get much into the
injured guys, like, for example, I mean you're on is
that going to be anything that you have to work on,
you know, the East Soak peretis. But to the point
(47:16):
that he's talking about industry wide, Okay, yes, I understand
that arm issues probably industry wide. I know that people
focus on what the Astros have had in those issues,
and it's very well documented and you can see how
many guys missed this season and could even miss into
the offseason, maybe even next season. But it's the execution
(47:37):
of it that I think that your fan base and
us are frankly tired of because it happened two years
in a row where you had massive flubs.
Speaker 8 (47:45):
I'm curious about. Okay, let's assume it's in industry. Well,
let's get me. Let me get to a bigger picture.
It bothers us because we're living here. I'm sure in
LA they're saying the same thing yet. But the point
is it, Listen, if you're all healthy, there's two wins
in there in a playoff. Dana's not lying about that,
and there are injuries everywhere. It feels to us now
that'd be it seemed like somebody out there who covers
(48:07):
baseball and covers the analytics of it, we'll be able
to tell you that quickly?
Speaker 1 (48:11):
Is it industry wide? Does?
Speaker 8 (48:13):
Does everybody have nine starters or seven starters or eight
starters or the overall even more than that, when you
count pitchers throughout the year that are missing twenty thirty
forty one hundred days? Is that industry wise? There are
injuries and arm injuries industry wide. That's a fact. And
at every level. The question is you know this year,
where would I think the Ashleys had the most starters
(48:33):
or put players onil at some point in time? But
here's another thing. Okay, so how do we get it fixed?
I want to go to a deep end. This is
interesting to me. If you're a pitching coach or a
personal trainer, a coach out there baseball coach, like I
coach quarterbacks, right, and I'd be able to answer, well, Sean,
why don't your quarterbacks have arm problems? Or if they do,
why do they? Or what are you doing training wise
(48:55):
to do it? I have one simple question. I don't
train quarterbacks to be throwers. I trained quarterbacks to be quarterbacks.
So if this is an industry wide problem, you think
it just starts when they get here?
Speaker 1 (49:06):
It doesn't. You got we got kids? Will you find
a kid in text.
Speaker 8 (49:09):
Somebody's pumping at ninety eight here in Texas as a area.
That's what I'm saying. It's sixteen years old and more
than one right, Okay, So that's fine and dandy. The
legs and you know, and you know all the stuff
that engaging your legs in your lower half and torque
and understanding your body and doing all that. But if
we're having struggles and arm injuries are rampant, I want
(49:30):
to know out there, why do we continue to harp
on velo instead of pitching. Well for somebody who's training them. Now,
I know what I think because I can train quarterbacks
and haven't been a baseball player in the division IE recruit.
I can train pitchers as well, not as sharply as
somebody who did pitch at the major league.
Speaker 1 (49:46):
Level, but I can see them. Honest, there are guys
that take lessons that have qualifications and you do right,
and I.
Speaker 8 (49:52):
Can see the mechanics. I can see the mechanics of
the pitching to know, leg drive falling off, you know,
arm angle, all that stuff, your finishing, your extension, all
those things. A lot of similarities a new cottage industry
for you. Well, also quarterbacks coach pitchers, Well, I could know.
What I'd want to do is a guy who's pitching
and talking about it all if he said, Sean, can
(50:13):
you come and look at the mechanics of the lower
half and kind of apply it to it?
Speaker 1 (50:16):
Just like I'd listen you're telling me.
Speaker 8 (50:18):
I wouldn't want Nolan Ryan or somebody to come say,
hey on, look at this, even though why wouldn't you.
Speaker 1 (50:23):
Tom House knows both.
Speaker 8 (50:25):
It's just the mechanics the baseball lingo, which I and
I love baseball. I would love it, but that's not
my goal. I'll leave it to those guys. But I
could teach the mechanics of pitching because there's not a
lot of difference. There's some differential the way the finish.
You know, you cut across it in football, you thought
like a screwball, where the thumb is pointing if you're
a right hand or you'll finish with your thumb pointing
to the right, the right stands right, whatever it is,
(50:46):
all those things. But I'm just curious, if you're out
there and you're coaching Little league, or you're a high
school coach, or you consider yourself a private instructor, if
this is a continued problem across baseball at every level.
What are we teaching then? Why the focus on velo?
Would you rather be ninety nine and a thrower or
(51:09):
ninety five in a pitcher?
Speaker 1 (51:12):
I probably would say that most kids, right, And I
would say ninety nine in a thrower, that's exactly right.
Speaker 8 (51:16):
But what would you what's going to extend your career
and what are you going to be better at when
all said and done, Who's lasting longer and who's going
to be better the ninety five pitcher or the ninety
nine thrower? I mean, I would say it's the latter,
Thank you, part of what Marty to throw a knuckleball?
Speaker 1 (51:31):
Right?
Speaker 8 (51:31):
I can I can find you ninety nine ninety eight
that can't find the strike zone at certain levels. And
I know when you say diamond doesn't, well, there's not
a dime of dozen guys still ninety eight in baseball.
The way we're teaching it, guys are pumping it ninety five,
ninety six, ninety seven, ninety eight, one hundred at that level.
Speaker 1 (51:45):
So with that, are you are you making.
Speaker 8 (51:48):
The necessary adjustments If you're teaching vlo vlo velo velo,
are you making the necessary adjustments so the arm can
hold up with the legs. Because, like I said, it's
breaks and gas. Man, if you're not using them both
and breaks win. So if we're teaching it, are we
teaching our guys? Because you can put a viral video
on that says, hey man, look at my guy. Look
look at him. He just threw ninety six as a
sixteen year old. Well, one thing he's got to understand.
(52:10):
You don't get the kroll hop four times into a pitch,
all right.
Speaker 1 (52:12):
I want you to carry those two fifty five pound
kettlebells right there, and then once you get up to
that line, pick up the baseball and throw it right right. Look,
we don't throw kettle balls on Friday. I love I
love the guy that makes fun of all of these videos.
There is a guy and I don't know his name,
all Jeff Fry does, yeah, the former baseball players from
a Red Sox.
Speaker 8 (52:31):
Jeff Fry does he and he's priceless. There's a guy
hitting instructor that teaches that drop the bat, flatten it out,
and he's never players take up that broomstick and just
like you're brooming and then all of a sudden swing
it like a bat right, dude, he's and he's got
that like the water tank on you or whatever it
is that for whatever they're putting on him, all these gimmicks.
(52:52):
Like I said, if a guy shows up to train
your kid in any sport and there's more gimmicks than
there is teaching, he's got all this Santa Claus bag
full of tricks him. Because that's not the guy that's
teach you good. That's the guy that can't teach, that
has to have all the gimmicks and Santa Claus bag
full of tricks, so it takes away from him having
to teach. Those guys cannot teach. I'm just telling you,
(53:12):
I've been around him, and they when you get right
down to hardcore, teach it without a gimmick. That's where
you come in. You damn right, I ain't. You're not
walking on a tire throwing a football for me, because
when we start playing on Friday nights and you're standing
on a tire, I'll put you on a tire. I'll
put you but all the things that go with it.
So what are we teaching? And right now everything is
(53:35):
load him up, put it on a TikTok and pump
up ninety nine and when you get there, But can
you throw a strike when it matters in ninety nine?
Speaker 1 (53:42):
If it doesn't move, I'm hitting it. I hate to
tell as an eight year old kid, you're not going
to be able to crow hop and throw it to
the plate. Shocks just not really how it works. I
just can't wait till this off season. I'm driving around
and I see a bunch of kids out in the
field trying to throw a knuckleball, and then I'm just
like that Sparks Steve take doing the off season. Yeah, buddy, yeah, man.
Speaker 8 (54:03):
Teach kids how to throw a knuckleball. I mean, one
thing that'll do. It'll preserve your arm. I ask him
and Tim Wakefield, no question, gave those men a career.
Absolute Phil Nekros Yeah, there you go, There you go.
Speaker 1 (54:14):
What do we call him? Ny? I think, yeah, Phil
nicro did. He apparently was known for his in between
innings is on the on the clubhouse steps, because it
used to be in the Astrodome that the clubhouse was
below ground, so you would go down some steps that
were like turfed out, and supposedly you could always see
the water ring from a Coca Cola and a cigarette burn.
(54:40):
That was Phil Phil neicro in between innings back in
the day, Dave Parker's puffing on and taking a dart
and drinking a Coca cola and going back out there
and throwing sixty five darting away from you and three
hitter at sixty Hall of Fame jacket, right, yeah, knuckleball
in that siteline in the asterdome. Good luck to you,
no doubt about it.
Speaker 8 (55:00):
So I just, you know, the curious to teaching and
if you're one of those young demanded demand that you're
teaching your kid to be a pitcher or a quarterback,
not a thrower.
Speaker 1 (55:07):
Big difference. Seems like that's in short supply nowadays, but
who knows. I mean, things are cyclical, so maybe we'll
get back to it. All right. So I know that
sometimes we can get annoyed with delivery drivers, but maybe
somebody just maybe was thankful for a delivery driver. Well,
talk about it right here as we get into the
stakeout on a Tuesday, it is a Sean Salisbury short
(55:30):
on a Wednesday. What the hell is my problem? It's okay? Now,
a Western Wednesday. Jeez, ret Western Wednesday, Sean Salisbury show
damn it.
Speaker 8 (55:38):
Hey, DNM leasing just delivered a truck to a customer
who had listened to dn M for more than twenty
five years. Think about that, And he'd been hearing these
commercials forever, right for decades, he believed leasing was just
renting a car. I put in air quotes, something you
only did if you couldn't afford to buy. And who
hasn't been there, right, guys. But DNM Leasing's here to
change that. That changed when the dealership offered him an
(55:59):
eighty four month loan. He knew he'd trade the truck
in in a few years, and he knew he'd end
up well upside down again, owing more than it was worth. Well,
that's when he remembered the DNM commercials. Ever seen a
Texas title?
Speaker 1 (56:13):
Uh?
Speaker 8 (56:14):
And when you trade in a long finance contract, the
only thing you own is negative equity. Those quotes, so
he called DNM leasing showed him is that leasing isn't
about what you can afford. It's simply the smarter way
most people pay for their vehicles. Smarter. See what smarter
does for you? And DNM leasing is smart. Leasing isn't renting.
Let me say it again, Leasing isn't renting. It's smarter.
(56:37):
Who doesn't want smarter? Harder doesn't always work. Smarter does,
and especially when it puts money in your pocket and
makes it easier for you at the beginning, the middle,
and the end. Dial seven one three two nine zero
one thousand, seven one three two nine zero one thousand,
or visit us at DNM It's DNM Leasing, dmauto Leasing
(56:57):
dot com dmauto Leasing.
Speaker 1 (57:00):
They continue to win.
Speaker 8 (57:01):
Awards and there's a reason why d n M it's
dmauto leasing dot com.
Speaker 14 (57:07):
There's a lot happening and he's got a lot to
say about it. Sean Salisbury continues on seven nineteen.
Speaker 1 (57:18):
All right, Sean, what are you hearing out there now?
Speaker 17 (57:21):
The Salisbury stakeout Salisbury takeout on the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 1 (57:54):
Sean Salisbury Show, Sports Talk seven ninety I'm forgetting what
day it is. I'm forgetting where the microphone button is.
I'm a mess. You know what, I'll do my best
for the right. Yeah, we're good, We're good. I got
I got him here right now. Can you give me
one hundred and seventeen pitches? And you need me to
spot up one hundred right now? With one hundred and seventeen.
I got you.
Speaker 8 (58:13):
I'm telling him, coming up on the dugout steps, you
can step up with the top doug out steps, saying
do I need to get no?
Speaker 1 (58:19):
And I'm pulling the micro messina. I'm telling you get
your ass back in the du i pop up and
I'm about to come get you now and you're saying no,
go back. I got I'm pulling a max Surezer on you. Okay.
So sure sures Are threw that out a few times
early on in his career. Yeah, we're about the fourth
inning right now. You're looking looking like the cyborg with
the different colored eyes staring back into the dugout. He
almost looks like a bird. It get scary. It's like
(58:39):
job in there. It's like, so if I step up,
I got you?
Speaker 8 (58:42):
Know how they got one step up and the other
one's on the second step down and I'm looking like
do I come get you?
Speaker 1 (58:47):
And I'm staring at you like point back with the clubs.
Stay there.
Speaker 8 (58:50):
Okay, So I don't need to call for the riding. No,
all right, so you can still need ninety eight. I
don't need to see stirring in the bullpen. I don't
I don't need I've got this guy, got them all right,
there you go.
Speaker 1 (59:01):
We're good.
Speaker 8 (59:02):
Hey, you're gonna get me out of this inning. We're
gonna get out of this inning. Okay, Yeah, I'm gonna
preserve the win, right, some respect on it. I appreciate
the I appreciate the confidence.
Speaker 1 (59:11):
All right. So, yeah, we've talked about Joe a spot
at Dana Brown, Texans getting ready for the Ravens and
also the wild card out went last night. Two home teams,
two road teams winning. All right, So I mentioned about
a delivery driver who actually made somebody happy. Well because
in this case Sean, they came to the rescue dateline Dallas, Texas.
(59:33):
The headline reads, delivery driver gets ordered for zip ties,
bleach and they hatchet and leads to a hostage rescue
at a Texas hotel. Hostage freed from a Texas hotel
last week after a delivery driver received a suspicious order.
Sweetwater Police said officers responded to the Sweetwater in after
learning that Neil Cooper forty two had used a delivery
(59:56):
app to purchase garbage bags, zip ties, bleach in a hatchet.
When the officers are it's pretty normal, no, I mean
normal for like if you want to like create like
an Eli Roth film, because I mean that's pretty much
you know what. It sounded like this guy was going for.
I don't know, maybe he thought hotel hostile.
Speaker 8 (01:00:14):
And kind of the hotel an outdoor entry hotel has
to be right. It looks like probably I would have
to believe a hotel and.
Speaker 1 (01:00:21):
I going to say, yeah, yeah, yeah. Hotels the doors
face outside. Hotels the doors are inside. Is it like
vacancy with with HBO? What's Willer TV brother's name? What's
all in Wilson's brother's name Wilson, you know when he's
with Cake Beck and Sale and they go to the
outdoor motel. That's the thing man, like you know of
like doing these like West Coast road trips that I
(01:00:42):
you know, used to do like a previous relationship, and
you know, hey, you know what about this place. I'm like, no,
that looks like we would possibly be like the Bates Hotel.
I'm good.
Speaker 8 (01:00:50):
Where you're roll in and it's like yeah, you check
in and the guy that's checking in at the front desk, hey.
Speaker 1 (01:00:55):
Hey hey that place the place where we can use
points and it's corporately owned. Yeah, I'm good with those Oh,
but it's a nice bed and breakfast. Yeah, that's what
they want to tell you.
Speaker 8 (01:01:04):
Then they feed you strict night or something before right,
and then all of a sudden you're like, wait a minute,
you're sitting in your air conditioning that why.
Speaker 1 (01:01:13):
Why do I look like the set of Dexter right now?
Speaker 8 (01:01:15):
And the one key with the number on, you know,
the one single One of my biggest fears of a
way to go? Man, the biggest fear open water storm hits,
storm hits, plane crash, something like that. Dude, don't say
that open water storm hits. That's stormble don't get that.
Back that up. Say I'm sorry for sam Plank. I'm sorry, okay,
but we don't want that. No, we don't want that.
Speaker 1 (01:01:35):
But I'm just saying that, like that's that that or
like something like a saw or something like that saw
one of the Saw movies. But I mean that's the
thing of like being kidnapped, chloroformed and all of that.
And then I mean you pretty much kick it out
of dude. Massive. That's why like those movies, like when
one of my exes would watch them, I'm like, I
can't watch it with you. I get anxiety, Like nobody's
(01:01:58):
business because I'm like that can act actually happened?
Speaker 8 (01:02:00):
So what what happens? Yeah? What what?
Speaker 1 (01:02:04):
What happened? In the story. So police get there and
they arrived at Cooper's room at the Sweetwater in he
refused to let the men, claiming that he had a weapon. Well,
they soon enough would force entry and discovered there was
a man inside being held hostage by Cooper. Cooper arrested
and is now facing charges of aggravated kidnapping. The hostage
was rescued and then.
Speaker 8 (01:02:26):
Arrested for an outstanding warrant for manufactured and delivery of
a controlled substance and failure to identify.
Speaker 1 (01:02:33):
So this was like breaking bad.
Speaker 8 (01:02:35):
Yeah yeah, but here's the deal. Hey, Base situations. You've
been rescued, but hey, can we just see your ID?
You know, it's just you know, be able, let your
your family know. Hey, we regret to inform you that
now we got.
Speaker 1 (01:02:46):
To take you in. Yep.
Speaker 8 (01:02:48):
But now in his case, yeah yeah, make sure he's
not the same the same cell with the dude you
just arrested for trying to kill him and kidnap him
and kill him. But here's the thing, too, is that
if you're the guy who got saved and then got
in trouble. Yeah, thank them, because if they don't save you,
they never know about your criminal activity and you're dead. Yeah,
(01:03:10):
you're you're you're basically your boy, your moser spread around
some nut job.
Speaker 1 (01:03:15):
God.
Speaker 8 (01:03:15):
I mean, well you said hatchet. They gave me again, hatchet,
hatchet bleach. Wait, yeah, there you go. He's gonna put
him in a trash can and in there like the
old school cartel.
Speaker 1 (01:03:28):
And it's kind of I mean that's the thing, like,
you know, how how well can you really clean up
that room? And then then the next people who get
in there and they're like, yeah, no, yeah, if you're
you ever walked into Have I ever walked into a
motel room? Yeah?
Speaker 8 (01:03:40):
And then I walked into a motel room, yeah, said
The first thing I do is pull.
Speaker 1 (01:03:43):
The the the blanket off. Yeah.
Speaker 8 (01:03:47):
They stuff that blanket somewhere else. Number one to see
and I look under the bed. I checked the air
vents to see if somebody left a bag with two
million dollars in there. They've hit it for six months
trying to get back because they got.
Speaker 1 (01:04:00):
And then I'm looking for the guy.
Speaker 8 (01:04:01):
I'm looking for the guy that makes sure did he
have if he has that, uh that air gun?
Speaker 1 (01:04:06):
Like what's my movie with Brolin? Yeah, he's walking.
Speaker 8 (01:04:10):
Around with the dog, with the guards everything, and you
don't want to take a chance. Yeah, with a nail gun.
I'm thinking, well, what if that dude starts shooting at
my door? Oh yeah, I'm thinking all that. And then
I'm looking at the TV saying, why if you see
yourself on a TV when you turn it on, get out?
Well I think at that point it's too late get out.
So yeah, you were saying, have I been in a motel? Yes,
(01:04:31):
and I do everything I can not to Okay, okay
not to and if you go in there, and I'll
never ever, I've never slept bare chested or naked in
one of those motels.
Speaker 1 (01:04:42):
Either.
Speaker 8 (01:04:43):
I'm wrapped in a plastic bag by my account, not
by the guy who kidnaps. You got to say.
Speaker 1 (01:04:47):
And then you know you're just sitting there in the
middle of the night and somebody, you know, just having
a beer or two in your room, just unwinding, and
then somebody breaks in your room.
Speaker 8 (01:04:54):
Where is it? Where's what? Well, here's what I don't
do in a motel.
Speaker 1 (01:04:57):
I've been sunning. Never unwind in a motel them.
Speaker 8 (01:05:00):
Okay, I got I've got the the carry pointed at
the door.
Speaker 1 (01:05:04):
What's that right there?
Speaker 8 (01:05:05):
And my favorite thing is remember when we used to
in the old school and they still have the one
the little chain lock you'd put up there as that
was going to hold somebody out that wants to get in.
Speaker 1 (01:05:13):
The thing that I rip it out, and I mean
and I get it too. It's safety. You want to
feel secure in your room and better than plastic curtains.
But like I see some of these videos of like
people like putting towels down and like doing all these
other things. I'm like, isn't the whole point of going
to a place is so you can relax, So like
maybe do a little bit of research of hey, this
hotel's had, you know, incidents. Okay, maybe don't stay at
(01:05:35):
that hotel.
Speaker 8 (01:05:36):
I'm stopping and she got a full tank of gas
and I don't. When I get to shower, curtains in
there too, and it like rubs against you because the
shower is so small and rubbing against your.
Speaker 1 (01:05:44):
Shoulder, small bar soap.
Speaker 8 (01:05:46):
My OCD when I go into motels kicks in to
the point where It's like, dude, just go sleep in
the truck and stay awake.
Speaker 1 (01:05:52):
If you're out in the middle of nowhere, you got
to stop right drive.
Speaker 8 (01:05:54):
We've all been there there where your regency resort is
not there, And I can't get one of em hotels
in the middle of the you know, between here and
and l Passo. So you're like and then you rub
up against that plastic curtain and then you're like cozying
on the bed on the sheet that just had bed
bugs from four people passed. I don't need it and
(01:06:15):
they and they said, oh man, nobody used the room
so little. Yeah, an incident and I'll tell you another place.
Can you explain what the incident was?
Speaker 1 (01:06:23):
Please?
Speaker 8 (01:06:24):
If you have a hotel with the rabbit ears on it,
uh on the TV, I said, cable TV air conditioning vacancy,
don't stay there.
Speaker 1 (01:06:32):
Because the guy with the nail gates coming to your door. Yeah,
you don't want that. You don't need that. I'm telling you.
Speaker 8 (01:06:39):
Just the boutique motels are nice, and it is like, oh,
I love a good boutique.
Speaker 1 (01:06:45):
Well, I mean that's the thing is you know what
was it? Uh? I mean the name of the show
is of a word, But I just don't want to
chance it. Eugene Levy and all of them, and the
Rose Motel. So I mean like once they created that,
people wanted to create their own Rose Motel. They see
your anxiety about most of No, no, I don't. I
(01:07:07):
don't need to know Norman Bates. I don't need to
know the guy.
Speaker 8 (01:07:10):
If you have to put the dresser against the door
for your security, my suggestion as you move on, brother,
I'm not trying to park by the truckers and a
stop at a at a truck stop and hang with
those guys.
Speaker 1 (01:07:22):
The truckers too. There's even been movies up truckers soon. Yeah.
Speaker 8 (01:07:25):
Or you might get the car that runs itself like
in Christine and follows you around that one, or Rutger
Howard chasing you down on the freeway.
Speaker 2 (01:07:33):
What's that?
Speaker 1 (01:07:33):
What's that Camaro right there with red lights in the front.
Get in? Oh it's kid. There you do. I sleep
with one eye open. Try that.
Speaker 8 (01:07:42):
Some of you guys that are married probably have to
do that.
Speaker 18 (01:07:45):
That.
Speaker 1 (01:07:46):
There you go, James, there you go.
Speaker 8 (01:07:49):
I'm just anytime if I think about Rutger Hower, I think,
oh gosh, she's going to be in a truck driving
down the freeway trying to get you the next stop.
Speaker 1 (01:07:56):
It's a real thing. I mean. And that's the thing too.
You think these movies he's listening, going, oh, we've all
been through that. You think these movies are being created
out of thin air. Somebody has these thoughts. That's what
I always say.
Speaker 8 (01:08:07):
And the fact that when James Patterson writes a book,
I said, he knows that that stuff happens people.
Speaker 1 (01:08:13):
Look, I like that. Change passon.
Speaker 8 (01:08:14):
Let me see if I can do just change all
that kind of stuff. Yeah, I don't need that in
my life. Look, I've got I've got many ways that
I can think about going. We get scared now, Dan, No,
it's trust me. It's next time even to oh, hey,
this motel looks nice. No it doesn't. We're gonna keep going.
Speaker 1 (01:08:31):
Now what I'm tired, didn't didn't get out of the
driver's suit.
Speaker 8 (01:08:36):
I like hoes better than mos yeah, meaning hotels better
than because.
Speaker 1 (01:08:40):
I mean, it's it's a general life. Through the lobby.
Speaker 8 (01:08:42):
At least you go through the lobby of entry. That
guy with the air gun, the he's got, well, he's
gonna get a bunch of people before he gets to
you right, you know, then at least get out.
Speaker 1 (01:08:53):
He raises hell, and then the cops get there and
at least give you go. Now that's probably the best case,
all right, So let's get into a little bit of
Texans because we saw a little bit of a roadmap
next week. So can they be able to execute? Said
real Mett. We will talk about it right here. It
is the Shawn Salisbury Show on a Western Wednesday Sports
(01:09:13):
Talk seven.
Speaker 8 (01:09:14):
Ninety Country Buys Roofing. Yeah, Country Boys Roofing Country with
the K boys with the Z. I know how proud
John and his crew are that they are now proud
members of the Better Business Bureau, and they've added a
couple things. Son now works for him after a great
run at Steven F Austin. And even just as important,
(01:09:36):
they now are in the finance business, lending when I say,
lenning the financial so you can finance your roof through
his company. Isn't that a great thing? Isn't that a
great thing? At Countryboysrooofing dot Com they keep adding layers
wide because of you. When you're growing, you trust the work,
and now you can add that too, so you get
to keep it in house. What a great situation you get,
(01:09:58):
plus you get quality work. Listen, they'll go anywhere in Houston.
They are not going to price gouge thousand dollars off
you mentioned my name, discount off full roof, and if
you're an educator, first responder, military, you get one five
hundred dollars discount on the full roof at a time
when storm's hit and people are price gouging. Not Country
Boys Roofing anywhere in Houston. Help you navigate those nasty
insurance claims. It suck, but they'll walk you through that.
(01:10:21):
And no job's too big or too small. Just talk
to people who've used them. That's the best way to
do it. And if you'll do that, you'll find out
that you get quality work, great customer service, and a
guy who's not going to make you take out a
second mortgage to have your roof fix. He's given discounts
at a time when people are hiking prices. So you
tell me quality work, great customer service, and a better
(01:10:41):
business Bureau Proud member. Now, yeah, get your butt to
Country Boys Roofing. It's done right country with the Kboys,
with the Ze Countryboysroofing dot Com and live out there.
Speaker 1 (01:10:51):
For the Sewn Salisbury Show continues. You know what he
marks was a guy that the week before against the
MPa Bay Bucks Sean. I think that there were people
that are two weeks before where you saw him do
some good things and people were like, hey, hey, use
that guy a little bit more. Well, it seemed like
at least in the third and fourth quarter that Nick
(01:11:12):
Cayley finally said, you know what, let's try this out.
Let's see if this works. And I think it worked
out pretty well.
Speaker 8 (01:11:17):
Novel concept, right, Maybe he found out that I've got
to you know, elevated as well. Now that's the game plan.
I need the attack, the aggressiveness, the if you're up nineteen,
get up twenty six, if you're up twenty one, get
up twenty eight. I'm a foot on your throat guy,
because I've seen too many times where things started to
(01:11:38):
go and I know as it got late they were
not moving to football and they were struggling their defense
own the game. Even more reason why you can go
be more aggressive. That's the perfect time to test out
something like you went on the practice field, Hey we're
up nineteen, we're up twenty six, let's stay aggressive. Let's
test some things out. Our defense has got this in
hand too many times. One play here to wet it here,
(01:12:00):
we see it everywhere happened, So be aggressive and get
after it. Listen, sometimes the out of body experience or
the greatest growth happens when you say, okay, you know what,
the willingness to say that while this is what I like,
sometimes you got to get out of that and say, well,
this is what we do well. And there is a
big difference, and everybody has their philosophy and do it.
(01:12:21):
But the adjustments that you make, I'm not talking about halftime.
I'm talking about going in and why you're calling plays
in series and from down to down. This team doesn't
do well. Play and scared offensively, playing safe now getting
completions one thing, But you got to take your shots.
You got to attack, and as the season goes on,
it ain't going to get any easier. So and this
(01:12:43):
is gonna be a good week to test yourself on
the road. Even though it's not a loaded Baltimore team
right now, it is a team that's pretty much owned
to you.
Speaker 1 (01:12:50):
I would say the offensive burden of proof is actually
one of those things that you just mentioned, and we'll
talk about it here as we continue on a Western
Wednesday edition of The Shawn Salisbury Show Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (01:13:04):
The Jean Salisbury Show continues.
Speaker 1 (01:13:07):
Horns and Gators from the Swamp. Coverage gonna start at
one point thirty here on Sports Talk seven ninety. All right,
you were talking about, you know, the way the Texans
offense can play, and playing scared was at least one
of the things that you'd mentioned, and you know, not
necessarily the specifics of what you'd mentioned. I actually, you know,
Sean would say that if nothing else, I think that
(01:13:29):
the burden of proof is they've proved that they are
much better at playing scared than they are at putting
their foot on the gas pedal and actually running in
a capable offense that can put up yards and put
up points.
Speaker 8 (01:13:41):
When you came out of that this weekend or fans
too are callers? Did you was it cosmetic hope or
do you think they're substance.
Speaker 1 (01:13:52):
Us C minus? It was an improvement, but I mean
it's still one that I look at and I'm like,
that doesn't beat a healthy Baltimore. That doesn't beat Oh no, no, no,
that that doesn't beat That means New Orleans that beats Tennessee,
that beats those games. I mean exactly what I said
where it was okay, fine, it's a win, but you
had a nice endo the third quarter and fourth quarter.
(01:14:14):
Aside from that, it was a very mid game and
the only reason that you were able to be winning
was because I know I didn't use proper English there,
but we'll get past it.
Speaker 8 (01:14:22):
But is because Tennessee is their own quarterbacks words bingo
and that, and think about it. That may not be
Cleveland because of Cleveland's defense. Right, that's a closer game
than twenty six. You're not getting in this week. You
probably beat Cleveland thirteen to nothing and or take that back,
like twelve to nothing in fifteen it's like four or
(01:14:43):
five field goals.
Speaker 1 (01:14:43):
Is well, you play that way this week against this team.
Cooper Rush, no, Lamar Jackson, no, mattabk no, a lot
of other guys on the field. They're beating you.
Speaker 8 (01:14:54):
They're beating you, and you're coming out of that game saying,
how do we not beat these guys without Lamar Jackson
and a bunch.
Speaker 1 (01:14:59):
Each other guys out of defense?
Speaker 8 (01:15:01):
Yeah, now they'll beat a team like Cincinnati with the
performance like that because they blow too, but a good team,
they got a test and this isn't even their biggest
test ahead because they're not healthy, and then Lamar isn't there,
but it'll still be a test. Beca's on the road
and you know, Baltimore has got some pride and the
rest of it. So but there was signs late in
the game that were that were impressive, and.
Speaker 1 (01:15:23):
They do something every defense.
Speaker 8 (01:15:24):
Like I said, I'm just referring to the offense because
what's going to get him back in it is defense
keep pitching shutouts and low scores.
Speaker 1 (01:15:32):
That's why they were able to do what they did,
no question.
Speaker 8 (01:15:34):
So I'm anxious to see at what point in time
will the offense be at a point where we trust
that they can carry if the defense has a bad day,
because right now you can't trust that yet. He saw signs,
which is a good thing, but you can't trust right
now that. Okay, the defense gives up thirty against a
good team, no shot right right now, no shot that's
exactly zero unless you're playing somebody that that is is
(01:15:58):
as bad a defense that we're seeing around the league
on somebody.
Speaker 1 (01:16:02):
These right I mean, that's that's the only thing is
that you would have to hope that you're able to
finally have a team that hey they can't get to
the quarterback, Hey they can't cover. Okay, well, at least
they can score, so they got that, like the Cowboys
for example. Maybe, But I mean even with Dak and
when healthy, ceedee lamb, I have any doubts. Well, they
(01:16:23):
can score points. They can score points. They just can't stop.
They can't. They're they're brutal. I mean, how many how
many times Sunday night while you're watching that game that
you're like, you gotta be Dak over there on that
sidelines being like, if you just give us one stop?
And now here's the even better part that kind of
you know, go along those lines. Cowboys Twitter is being
Cowboys Twitter and feeding right into Jerry and everybody else. Hey,
(01:16:44):
let's give up a bunch of picks and go get
Max Crosby. That ain't gonna save you, brother.
Speaker 8 (01:16:49):
More than one. There are five players away from being
five players away on defense. They've said that about a
few teams, and they're one of them. But Brett Prescott, Yeah,
you see, it gets to the point where and we
scored forty and we still can't now, I never twice
we've seen he got one win. Yeah, that's that's not
the normal green Bay defense. So Dallas did a good
job because Green Bay's defense hadn't given up forty many
times this year if ever again. So the Cowboys can score.
(01:17:12):
But the key for the Texans is you have to
treat this game planning like you're getting Baltimore at their best.
Speaker 1 (01:17:17):
That's how you have to approach.
Speaker 8 (01:17:18):
This even though you're not, because if you don't, they'll
steal one from you in their building and you'll come
home one and four and still be pissed about the
way you played.
Speaker 1 (01:17:28):
You can't.
Speaker 8 (01:17:28):
This is a about as close to a September must win. Well,
now we're in October that you first five to four
to six weeks, you have got to win this game.
There's not many teams, especially one that's not overly explosive.
Right now, they can start off one and four and
have an offense it's not overly explosive at all, at
least to date, and expect that they're going to go
on and get and gain that rhythm.
Speaker 1 (01:17:50):
If the schedule's too hard and there's.
Speaker 8 (01:17:51):
Too many good teams, and he didn't think there was
going to be this many good teams in the division.
Jacksonville's playing better than most of us thought, and the
Colts are playing far better quarterbacks playing damn good football.
Speaker 1 (01:18:02):
Right now, let's you know, we'll get back into the
Texans conversation, because we've talked about a lot of what
happened over the weekend, and somebody brought up a really
good point. But then somebody else brought up one that
I was like, hey, brother, doing a little bit of
day drinking over there. Yeah, well we'll discuss that here
as we get into the eight o'clock Howard is the
(01:18:22):
Shawn Salisbury Show on a Western Wednesday Sports Talk seven ninety.
But you know, I always look forward to this time
every single morning, and that's because I get to tell
you about my good buddy, Kobe Stevens and Kobe Stevens Apparel.
Kobe Stevens dot Com is the place to go to.
You want polos, they got polos. You want T shirts,
they got T shirts, hats, shorts, ladies and youth options,
(01:18:46):
all of the above right there, Kobe Stevens dot Com.
And I'm looking at Sean He's got a little performance
hoodie on right now and I'm like, you know what,
I think a nice little lightweight performance hoodie would go nice.
I mean for most of the year. You know, we
get about a couple of weeks of dabbling around winter
around here, but for the most part, those lightweight, you know,
hooded sweatshirts, they'll work out for you. Kobe Stevens dot com.
(01:19:06):
They got it. And you might be saying, oh, well,
is fishing season ever really out of season? Well not
when you shop at Kobe Stephens dot com, because the
fishing line apparel they got out there right there for you,
Kobe Stephens dot Com. The summer line still in playoff.
Telling you about the college football polos. You got the
purple and gold, the maroon and white, the burn orange

up in style by going to Kobe Stevens dot com
and purchasing yourself that red and white polo, and you
will be looking good. You step up to the tailgate people,
Hey brother, where'd you get that shirt? Kobe Stevens dot com.

Stevens dot com. Kobe Stevens dot Com Coby Stevens with
(01:19:47):

Speaker 9 (01:19:53):
AD Houston AHD two Houston, an iHeart radio station, The Rocket.
Speaker 2 (01:20:02):
Sports Talk seven ninety your home for your home.
Speaker 15 (01:20:05):
Teams from the Parsons that match in next studios, Saulsbury.
Speaker 2 (01:20:16):
Did, Okay, let's do this.
Speaker 1 (01:20:18):
Sewn Salisbury.
Speaker 3 (01:20:22):
To usc true longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 1 (01:20:24):
Dan Matthews, excuse, this is the Sean Salisbury Show. Good
to go, got got through the inning, ground, ground through
that fifth inning, you know, and.
Speaker 8 (01:20:38):
Pitch your way out of a bass loaded jam, and
I'm keeping you in there. We're not going to the
right hander.
Speaker 1 (01:20:41):
No, you know what I did. Remember Hunter Brown against
the Rangers this year where it was about ninety eight
pitches and you think he's probably done. I think it
was the fifth inning. Is when he got through that.
What does he do right when he goes to the dugout,
even before the fifth can be extended to be tapped up,
he goes, I'm going back out there. You go straight up,
straight up, right to Josh Miller and Joe spot up.
(01:21:02):
I'm going back down.
Speaker 8 (01:21:03):
Yeah, yeah, there you go. I'm going back out there.
You're Garrett crocheting it.
Speaker 7 (01:21:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:21:08):
How about and I just threw this out on Twitter.
How about crochet? Where if you ever played baseball, pitched
or hit and you get lifted from the game, but
you had a really good game. Isn't that one of
the best feelings that you're just like I did my work.
You know, we're we're in control, We're good. And for
him goes right to the dugout and I don't think
you can openly do it anymore because baseball's cracked down
(01:21:30):
on it. But goes and finds, you know, the the
can right there, puts a pension and it's just chilling
on the bench. And then the post game is what
I as what I shared. How you know they'll do
the podium press conferences. That's him and Alex Bregman up there,
and he's answering a question and undoes the top of
the the gatorade bottle, quick little spit there.
Speaker 9 (01:21:53):
To it.
Speaker 1 (01:21:54):
He's from Mississippi, and you like, you can't take it out.
Speaker 8 (01:21:57):
Of him ever. And what are you gonna do if
there's a place them, there's no place. Maybe church is
about the only place they Yeah, I was gonna says.
He's about a six', eight you, know bald guy with the,
beard he's got the. Tattoos, yeah you try telling him
it's not. Appropriate, well why don't you have that conversation with.
Them i'll sit back and, Enjoy but why don't you
(01:22:19):
do it in the?
Speaker 1 (01:22:19):
Meantime he can spit any gat or eight empty bottle
and a. SPITTER i got. There you, go just don't
do it on the. Floor, well it's it's. That and
then it's also. TOO i had a roommate once who
would would leave them AND i was just, LIKE i was,
LIKE i was, like, BROTHER i was like, hey BECAUSE
i MEAN i was doing it, too But i'm, like,
hey put it the, trash LIKE i pointed, Like i'm,
(01:22:40):
like just just throw it in. There and then of,
course you, know you start getting trash jinga right there.
Where i'm, like, Brother LIKE i get. THAT i could
probably have the initiative to do it myself. Too it's
not the, point like you, know it's kind of an equal.
Speaker 8 (01:22:53):
Partner throw your empty cans away, too because they still have,
aroma you know WHAT i.
Speaker 1 (01:22:56):
Mean i'm with, dude the stale. Smell, yeah that's Why i'm.
Talking just get it and get it. Outside don't need
a Spit yeah It spit's.
Speaker 8 (01:23:04):
Fine just keep it. There and like you, SAID i
don't your empty gatorade sea through, thing or or if
we had house, parties which you know we had a
few of, those.
Speaker 1 (01:23:11):
And you'll be a house.
Speaker 8 (01:23:14):
Body yeah there you, slide slide the couch out of the,
way all of.
Speaker 1 (01:23:18):
That you know exactly What sam told. You but where
you get to a point where bottle beers and then
somebody decides that they're going to use the the open
bottle as their spitch. Cotoon yeah and, yeah so the
next morning when you're cleaning, up like you would have
to go individually because you couldn't just like grab like
one throat in the industrial sized trash bag like you'd
(01:23:40):
have to like look through because then you don't want
to start leaking as it's going through the house and
any of those. Things it's an appetizing, CONVERSATION i get,
it BUT i mean these are things that you just you,
know you have to be mindful. OF i got.
Speaker 8 (01:23:52):
Buddies it's still the first thing they do when they
wake up in the morning is put a dip in
before they've even got their ass out of bed coffee,
first but then AFTER i brush the, teeth goes right
in there you go one of the one of the.
Speaker 1 (01:24:04):
Pouches there you.
Speaker 3 (01:24:05):
Go.
Speaker 1 (01:24:06):
See and that's the thing, too is if you put
it between your cheek and go it's a upper deck
or upper deckor, yeah, yeah, no it's it's All Walt garrison.
Commercial uh well it's also. TOO i mean you'd even
have some That and, like BECAUSE i did dip and
did it quite a, bit but it got to a
point too where it was the dental. Hygenis first that was,
(01:24:27):
Like i'm not trying to be your, mother And i'm, like,
well and you're not going to, be so. Don't but then,
finally like ONCE i noticed and started to like kind
of have some scares with it, ALL i was.
Speaker 8 (01:24:36):
Like we're.
Speaker 1 (01:24:36):
Good, yeah that's. Controllable, yeah but that is can be awfully. Addictive,
MAN i get, it all. Right so we can go
one of two ways. Here we can go hipocrisy or
we can go out of the box. THINKING i want hypocrisy.
First save the out of the box thinking for me
usually is a good. Thing hypocrisy. Sucks how About Paul
easinger saying WHAT i think most of us probably thought About,
(01:24:59):
rory where it's like you're going to talk about The
korum and all these, things but you're the guy shouting
F u F u F. U so where did? When
when Did zinger say? That he said it yesterday on a.
PODCAST i don't know what podcast was ON i.
Speaker 8 (01:25:11):
DID i also was asked the question BECAUSE i ripped
our fans ten percent of the, fans so they give ninety.
Percent and that's usually why it. Works you, know most
of them are good and get golf. Right AND i
have the same WAY i, said you know with it
and we. Listen rory's a, rabbit her sensitive front. Runner
there's no now a great. ONE a great one he.
Is if if there's a, Problem rory's going to try
(01:25:32):
to solve.
Speaker 1 (01:25:32):
It, WELL i, mean if you need a gatekeeper for,
golf just As, rory he'll.
Speaker 8 (01:25:36):
Definitely if you want Car, gary how good they are
and how good he, is all you got to do
is ask, Him. Jim but if he can do LIKE i,
said you cussed him and he hits it to two feet.
GREAT i love What Tobby fleetwood. SAID i snipped at
the two feet when he cussed all the fleet said,
yeah BUT i had to put. It, okay so good.
Stuff but the thing With rory is is that's exactly
(01:25:57):
what you. Want class you want golf's held to a
Higher AND i was saying, Yesterday i'm Glad zinger said
it Because i've told you yesterday even before we came,
on we were talking About Ryder cup AND i, said
we Need Paul asinger back in because we haven't had
a captain like.
Speaker 1 (01:26:09):
HIM i Give Keing bradley a lot of. Credit he
had his. Flaws who.
Speaker 8 (01:26:13):
Doesn't But zinger was the best captain we've had Since
Ti Tiger, woods AND i don't. Blame and If Tiger
woods is, wise he'll Bring zinger with, him, okay like
like they did With paul McGinley as a strategic. Guy
Because zinger cuts your heart, out feed it to you
on a, platter and make you putt it a six
inch er when he's got a four whole.
Speaker 1 (01:26:31):
Lead that's who that guy is back in the. Day
now there's a little more.
Speaker 8 (01:26:35):
Etiquette he may give you the six inch gran he
had given you the three, footer, THOUGH i promise you,
that especially if you've missed.
Speaker 12 (01:26:41):
Two in a.
Speaker 8 (01:26:41):
Row he's gonna he's gonna make you stress over the
three footer for future.
Speaker 1 (01:26:45):
Problem, actually you know what he's gonna make you. Do
he's gonna make you think that you've got to putt
it and then like you're going up to address, it and, goes,
yeah you're not gonna miss. That you can gohead pick it.
Speaker 8 (01:26:53):
Up, yeah oh, yeah just a just distress yeat a little.
Longer so at the next tea, box you're still like,
daddy he was gonna make me and you stay. Put
And zinger was as good as anybody at, it, Right
and so it's and so Is. Tiger tiger's just way
of being a is just not to talk to. You to,
YOU i am going to destroy you with these spiked. Cleats,
WELL i said the same thing.
Speaker 1 (01:27:14):
YESTERDAY i was thinking about.
Speaker 8 (01:27:15):
IT i, said you know, WHAT i got to give
equal time because the day BEFORE i was talking about the.
FANS i, said but, listen if you're going to give
the kind of the high and mighty and they did it,
wrong the ten percent shouldn't throw it his.
Speaker 1 (01:27:26):
Wife we've talked about. That but the other side of.
Speaker 8 (01:27:28):
It is you can't turn around go fu fuf you
out loud so everybody can hear after they f you'd
because you didn't like. It so if you're going to
be held to a higher, standard then guess what you
got to do The Tommy fleetwood. Approach be held to
a higher. Standard sometimes you just got to shut it.
DOWN i would go to the protection of your wife as,
well stop. It but you don't stop it while you're
(01:27:48):
sligging f bombs back into the crowd with kids and
all that stuff that you very well hated that they
were doing when you're walking down the, fairway let alone
in your. BACKSWING i get all that ten percent gave
it the other ninety percent of bad. Name But rory
mckelral also is a so he gets there's some self.
Speaker 1 (01:28:06):
Right just To rory, Mckelroy AND i think that probably
is what spurred a lot of this on, too is you,
know it's kind of like a kid picking on you
in school and you go home and tell your mom
and dad you, know, hey what SHOULD i? Do and
your mom and dad will tell you will ignore. Them
then you're, like, oh that's only gonna spur them on even.
More it's like the only kids who really get picked
(01:28:27):
on if we're being honest and, look shouldn't. Happen we
get all of, that but are the ones that it
gets a reaction like it gets say but like, say you,
know you, know busting shops with your. Friends trying to
think of the right WAY i could, say but busting
shops your friends is you'll give one of them a hard.
Time but then at the same time you're, like, well
(01:28:48):
they're a good, one they can handle. It they're you,
know it's it's it's not Gonna but then it's also,
though too you have that one friend who doesn't know
when the line, is and then you're the one that's
got to kind of step in and be, like, hey
well there's a slighting party once too far it was
a certain point in.
Speaker 8 (01:29:02):
Time then the next is then there's an asshop and
going to be distributed that friend or send a message to, him.
Speaker 1 (01:29:07):
And it's it's maybe he doesn't know him as, well
and it's just, like, hey let me talk to you
for a. Second that guy will kill you and we're,
friends SO i can get away with it because he
gives it to. Me but right probably A, lyne you
probably SHOULD i was gonna say it like you two
don't have that, relationship AND i don't want to see this.
Happen So i'm GLAD i got to look at it,
him Glad zinger said. It did he give it to?
HIM i mean he was, Good, yeah he did. It respect,
(01:29:29):
that but he was just a. Broadcast, look if you're
gonna talk To korum and all of, that then then.
Fine but it's it is part of that because it's
also it's not only the gate keeping With.
Speaker 8 (01:29:39):
Live and everything, else and you point yourself. Spokesperson and
he did do a good job earlier on in the
week of being, like, Hey america is one of the,
greatest you.
Speaker 10 (01:29:48):
Know no.
Speaker 8 (01:29:48):
Doubt so he just had his moments and he's a little,
spoiled that's WHAT i. Mean but he's a great, player
And i'm a McElroy.
Speaker 1 (01:29:54):
FAN i. Am it's going to be a little.
Speaker 8 (01:29:57):
More he may not get his rooted on in The
United states as after that weekend the next few times
he comes. Here But i'm Glad zinger said that because
it's important that one of that And zinger is not
afraid of What roy says to, him BECAUSE i got
to go look at that video and it makes me
happy because we can there's always a second side and
sit somewhere in the. Middle and if you're looking for
(01:30:18):
a higher, standard if We're golden fans to a higher,
standard we got to hold the golf first the same.
Speaker 1 (01:30:22):
Way i'm just glad, though, too you, know because you
had the moment With Keegan bradley where they, Were, oh you,
know don't you think you're? Inciting this's, like why does
everything have to be?
Speaker 8 (01:30:29):
Incited but because you tell him to be loud and
right loud doesn't mean. Disrupt the guy in his backswinging
right loud may just be loud at the right. Time,
like guess, what morons are going to be. MORONS i
don't have to tell, him hey be a. Moron you,
know mean people are going to be. MEAN i don't
have to tell, them hey be?
Speaker 7 (01:30:44):
Mean.
Speaker 1 (01:30:44):
Right you, know you know the WORD i. Want you
didn't do it BECAUSE i said. It you know the
Word i'm tired of hearing.
Speaker 3 (01:30:50):
That.
Speaker 1 (01:30:50):
That i'm so sick. Of dude is.
Speaker 8 (01:30:53):
Inciting i've heard it politically so. Much i'm so sick of.
It IF i never have to hear it, Again i'll
be a happy.
Speaker 1 (01:30:59):
Man it's almost making you wonder WHY ai is advancing
the way it is because, well guess what you want
people to not think for. Themselves you're well on your
way to doing.
Speaker 8 (01:31:09):
That, well unfortunately a lot of them. Can't and that's
the sad. Part and the same things that we don't,
want we don't want either too. MUCH Ai in my,
OPINION i just don't let the humans got to be.
Humans but there's some really dumpy like IF i told
you we were going to lower taxes and we're going
to have no income, tax and we're going to keep
our country safe and require that they're, safe and also
that your kids are going to be able to have
(01:31:32):
yours and handed it down to them so you can
create a legacy for. Them, sure and you said you
didn't want, That, well you, KNOW i mean the government's
got to. Run oh, okay all, Right well they're stealing
from people, too, Right, OKAY i mean lobbying to make more. Money, now,
yeah there you. Go, Okay, look not everybody's as smart as.
Everybody everybody has to have a. Job just because you
(01:31:52):
got a college education and it can be An Ivy
league school doesn't make you real, smart and it sure
as hell doesn't sell common.
Speaker 1 (01:31:57):
SENSE i just one of my. Favorite it's with with
morons is and this is really big in The. South
you know they can't help. It my response, was, well
they need to be able to help.
Speaker 8 (01:32:08):
It, YEAH i just if you can't help not to
keep more of your, money and that's you, problem, Right
i'll take.
Speaker 1 (01:32:14):
It, oh say it all the.
Speaker 7 (01:32:16):
Time.
Speaker 1 (01:32:16):
Yep if you're, unhappy that's on, you it's not anybody. Else,
well you don't want to keep they're training. Me they
don't know you're letting them do. That so there's a
whole thing about boundaries for a. Reason put them. Up
if they don't want, it, uh, dano they can send
it right to you AND i. WILL i got a
charity to give it.
Speaker 8 (01:32:31):
Today WANT i hear all the time about paying FAIR
i could use a fair, Share, yeah because your fair
share is a little bit more than.
Speaker 10 (01:32:37):
Mine you.
Speaker 8 (01:32:37):
Know i'm ready for The i'm ready for the federal
government and the uh in our federal taxes to go.
Away why because you know we get some make up
calls along the. Way it'd be kind of. Nice they've
been getting there for a. While Gars, yeah and we
can build some stuff to save dogs from getting killed
in Animals i'm. Okay with, that ill use her money
if she doesn't want, it And i'll apply it to,
there no. Problem, yeah we'll tax your ass. Night oh
(01:32:59):
you Know i'm willing can pay my.
Speaker 1 (01:33:00):
Fare, okay well you're a billionaire And i'm not even
close to scratching that. Surface so don't you think, That
like maybe if you're speaking for, yourself yourself is, Fine
but THEN i just know it's gonna be a pretty
blanketed you, know across the.
Speaker 8 (01:33:14):
Board so it's all relative to what you're making By yeah,
right they don't have any federal income. TAX i could
WE i think we'd all.
Speaker 1 (01:33:20):
Be just the, same be smarter for. It who would, say, oh,
well college, scholarship that's gotta stand for, Something, well sure it.
Does but if other people are, profiting don't you think
that probably they should be able to, Too like you're
gonna sell a number two jersey in The TEXAS a
AND m, bookstore and you think that probably that guy.
Speaker 8 (01:33:38):
There on an, Academic so, DUDE i have the athlete For, yeah,
okay well he did it unofficially and he did it.
Himself and if you're a, musician you get paid for your,
music whether you're sixteen or. Sixty, yeah if you're an,
athlete now there's gotta be some some control over.
Speaker 1 (01:33:51):
It and if you, Don't Lars ulrich and The feds
will bust down your. Door there you. Go BUT i
have no.
Speaker 8 (01:33:55):
Problem you sell. Jerseys, yeah that's part of. That that's
part and possible what Makes.
Speaker 1 (01:33:59):
America see could you See, lars you, know doing that
if you're using LimeWire or something like. That and he's
got the you, know the the chain hanging badge with
the bulletproof vest.
Speaker 8 (01:34:08):
And and and then a wind break there right there
with the other square jaws with the bus buzz cut
here cut there's no, doubt you, know cut tight with
a one on the, sides there's no. Doubt, yeah no
doubt about.
Speaker 1 (01:34:18):
It what do you want? Today your? Usual?
Speaker 8 (01:34:20):
Yeah all, right no. Scissors, yeah let's go right in
when he's not smiling when he says it, Either, yeah
right right right down to the brain pretty. Much all,
right the out of the, box because we can continue.
Speaker 1 (01:34:31):
This, yeah the out of the. Box the hypocrisy's, gone
and you just you almost wonder if, somebody you, know
maybe maybe maybe the daytime is a little fun for,
them especially when they spout out ideas like this we'll.
Discuss it Is Sean Salisbury show on A Western, Wednesday
Sports talk seven. Ninety but now it's time for The Cougar,
minute which is presented every day By. Wrangler AND i
(01:34:52):

week second in the country five hundred and seventy three.
Yards how about them on the scoring side this? Season uh,
Defense they're gonna have their hands full On saturday nights
trying to keep The Red raiders out of the end
zone Because tech has averaged fifty two points a game this,
season as also second most in the. Nation, however those
(01:35:13):
numbers might be a little inflated because The Red raiders
scored at sixty seven Against Arkansas plinboff and sixty two
against one Win Kent. State, however they did score forty
five against The cougar's last, Opponent Oregon. State so it's
gonna be The kugs And Red RAIDERS Tdecu Stadium saturday

then you Get Jazz chisholm the fly out to, right
and it was kind of like the first. One it's, like, okay,
hey one, out you, know somebody can make something. Happen
then two outs and you're just, like oh. God and
then he gets the two strikes on On, grisham and
you know they're showing the crowd and there's a lot
of nervous. Faces yeah, yeah you, know their goofy rally
(01:36:16):
caps on and all of that kind of. Stuff and
then there you go go back home the mom's basement and.
Enjoysers you couldn't make me, happier dude.
Speaker 8 (01:36:24):
Now and then our Guy Nick taturo, Afterwards i'm sure
He i'm sure he was letting them.
Speaker 1 (01:36:30):
Fly you load up the bases and you Don't scar.
Speaker 8 (01:36:33):
Run, hey that that guy he'd rather he'd rather The
yankees win a game than do a twenty million dollar.
Speaker 1 (01:36:41):
FILM i.
Speaker 8 (01:36:42):
AGREE i mean as much as HE i think he's
a group of funny actor AND i love, him but
he would rather The yankees. Win he's happier than somebody
had him a twenty million dollar check for a movie or.
So it's, crazy, dude but he's he's priceless and. Entertaining
he hangs on every pitch with The. Yankees he really.
Speaker 1 (01:36:58):
Does and it's just like every single video that like
it's almost to a point Where i'm sure he probably
like after like you, know it turns it.
Speaker 8 (01:37:04):
OFF i can't live being this. MISERABLE i just. Can't
it's LIKE i actually think you can't know he thrives.
IN i was gonna, say like it's if people are
happy being, miserable, Right, oh trust miserable being. Happy i've
been around, him, Right, no he's happy being. Miserable he just.
Is and that's just that's kind Of yankees.
Speaker 1 (01:37:22):
Win he's.
Speaker 8 (01:37:23):
Happier OH i don't care About. YANKEES i, mean, yeah
he just and but he's never fully happy dude with The.
Speaker 1 (01:37:28):
Yankees and that's the thing, is like you, know they
try to tell you don't have your life hinge, on
like how a sporting event. Goes i'm guilty of. It
it happens we all are if you if you root
for a team enough and you care enough about a.
Team BUT i guarantee you it'd be like one of
those like he and his wife are going to go
out to dinner something like that and a six four
to three double play when they have the go ahead
run on second to win a. GAME i guarantee you
(01:37:52):
that entire dinner is. Awkward, OH i guarantee.
Speaker 8 (01:37:54):
It or he slams something down and people look at
him and he's pissed off and then gets up and,
says we're going.
Speaker 1 (01:37:58):
Home, now take take the food. Home i'm.
Speaker 8 (01:38:00):
PISSED i gotta go do a. Video oh, yeah that's
him That i've been guilty of that.
Speaker 1 (01:38:06):
Too ah man of an outburst being angry with the
team and somebody didn't know, me like it kind of startled,
them And i'm like, like that's like when that, happens
you're just kind of, like, yeah my. Bad, Yeah i'm an.
Speaker 8 (01:38:18):
Idiot but he's unapologetic as hell when it comes to The.
Yankees from, HIM i mean, pissed he. Liked, yeah it's
it's a priceless. Watch it's part of the reason WHY
i watch my team's at home for the most, part
it really is His his fandom is off the.
Speaker 1 (01:38:35):
CASE i, mean IF i have my outburst in my
house and then somebody says something to, me Then i'm,
Like i'm in my.
Speaker 8 (01:38:40):
House i'm in my own. Domicile that was your. Problem,
YEAH i believe he doesn't sleep after the. YANK i
believe he'd not sleep very well last.
Speaker 1 (01:38:46):
Night with The yankee. Loss, yeah, yeah he, went he
went out in The. Bronx it's bleeping. Team can't stand them.
Yep and and While i'm sitting back SAYING, tho, Socks oh,
YEAH i think it's most of. Us what a? Performance
and you know, What, hey you know WHAT i could
deal with? Socks Cubs World series would be. Great, yeah
So Cubs baseball would love.
Speaker 3 (01:39:06):
It.
Speaker 1 (01:39:07):
DAMN i think about the sidebar stories you'd have with that.
One that would be.
Speaker 8 (01:39:10):
Phenomenal i'm good with that, Too Red sox and, anybody
But i'd Prefer Red, Sox, Cubs Red, Sox, padres Reds.
Speaker 1 (01:39:16):
Uh i'd Be i'd be happy For. BREAGE i, MEAN
i wish it was still in our, uni But i'd
be happy for. Him it would be it would be
awesome to see. That what what a what a historical
matchup that would be Red. Sox well they almost got, It. No,
THREE i mean twenty two years. Later why not go
ahead and get it now as. Well we'll do the
out of the. Box well we'll get to, it trust,
(01:39:37):
me we. Will but, Uh biscuit wants to weigh in.
Here good, Morning, Biscuit, hey cop of them more my.
Speaker 10 (01:39:44):
Brothers what's?
Speaker 13 (01:39:45):
Up?
Speaker 12 (01:39:47):
Hey?
Speaker 10 (01:39:47):
MAN i don't know if y'all spoke on, it, man you,
know AND i, was you, Know i'll be watching that beetball.
Speaker 1 (01:39:53):
MAN i was watching the game last, night the W
nba or.
Speaker 2 (01:39:57):
Whatever good great, GAME.
Speaker 10 (01:39:59):
Manu BUT i wanted to talk ABOUT i don't know
if you talked about A collier and her addressing the
the hierarchy in the w N B a and and
lack of. Leadership AND i tend to agree with The.
SEANE i think she's a she's come across as a
young lady that just ain't gonna pop off at the.
Mouth she just got to think about but what she,
(01:40:20):
says and she's kind of calculated and and from What
i've been watching over the years Year, shanan the last
two or three, Years i've WATCHED, thelbnba the referee in does,
suck you know WHAT i, Mean it's almost like you
HAD aau basketball game with the level of referees they.
Speaker 8 (01:40:36):
Have, yeah they're getting paid an they're getting paid a
snow cone after the game like a little league.
Speaker 1 (01:40:40):
Umpire, yeah it's.
Speaker 10 (01:40:41):
Awful that's what it's what it seems, like. Man and
you can't uh expect the lead to continue to grow
and develop if you got subpart referee in going off or.
Speaker 1 (01:40:52):
Going after your, STARS i, mean and that's probably the
one THAT i would say in.
Speaker 8 (01:40:55):
Biscuit the boss of the w n B a is
failing that them failing, promotion the, stars failing with referees
and has no Been and the answer she gives in
the lack of. Communication it's going.
Speaker 1 (01:41:10):
To bury the.
Speaker 8 (01:41:11):
League good, players bad, leadership, strategy awful and the refereeing
is so amateur hour that the refs are going to
get somebody killed if they're not.
Speaker 1 (01:41:22):
Careful i'm.
Speaker 10 (01:41:24):
Surprised and it's what she said ABOUT. Cc is is
true that a loan she get, on fired and alred
to get a run out the. Door she, said you
know about.
Speaker 2 (01:41:36):
Her being she should be grateful or.
Speaker 10 (01:41:38):
Whatever, no y'all should be grateful for.
Speaker 1 (01:41:40):
Her, yeah that she has because of the platform in
the league's giving. Her it's, like, no she's given your
league much more than the league's given.
Speaker 8 (01:41:46):
Her now that and she actually believes That Caitlyn, clark
that the the w N B a is better For
Caitlin clark Than Caitlyn clark's been for the W. Nba
as far as eyes and ears, go that's how dumb that.
Is Kaitlyn clark could go start her own league and
more because they get better support. Leadership the leadership is
gonna ruin that, league biscuit if it doesn't get changed.
Speaker 1 (01:42:06):
Quickly you're exactly.
Speaker 10 (01:42:07):
Right, yeah and then the last day sean out of the.
Box we're talking about, man as far as taxes, Goes,
Man i'm NOT i don't have a problem paying.
Speaker 1 (01:42:19):
You, Agreed. AGREED i would like not to have to pay,
them But i'll pay. Them i'm with.
Speaker 10 (01:42:24):
You, yeah you know WHAT i, mean because it's some
things as a group we, had for, example AND i
delivered to a lot of these elementary schools and, stuff
and Now i'm starting to see the security guards. There
i'm willing use some of my tax dollars to make
sure every elementary school is protected by a guard or.
Speaker 1 (01:42:38):
Whatever, amen you know WHAT i.
Speaker 10 (01:42:39):
Mean but but don't give me the ok though like they,
did LIKE i don't know if you know about a,
shine but the lottery takes. Us lottery didn't have, that
and they back in the day that the whole thing, was,
yeah we're gonna use the lottery and what we're gonna.
Do we're gonna take the money and use it to
support the educational.
Speaker 1 (01:42:53):
System, yeah that what happened to.
Speaker 10 (01:42:59):
That you, know when you then you, start you, Know
so let's just hold them accountable to do what they're
supposed to. Do i'm, saying we can't everything and can't
be for free, roads, bridges you, know what have. You
but let's just use the money in the right. Way
that's the only thing that's.
Speaker 8 (01:43:14):
All, yeah, MAN i always, say if you get if
you're paying, taxes you got money to pay, them you
got a, job you've got a. Career i'd love it
if somebody was saying we'll give you ten percent instead
of well you're, Paying i'd love. It but you're exactly
where's it? Going and when you ask that, question they'll
they'll him in. Hall you know how politics are bud him, and, oh,
well we're trying. This we're doing. Well you've been saying
that forever with this or is it going? It sure
(01:43:36):
doesn't look to me like it's going into. Education you're exactly,
right B.
Speaker 10 (01:43:41):
Yeah but, yeah man wnb a, man you want to
check him. Out, man it was a good game last, night, man.
Speaker 1 (01:43:48):
Awesome, Man, HEY i appreciate, it. Buddy, no it's you want.
Leadership she has this because of the. League, yeah, listen
LAST i, checked she was pretty popular before she came
to your. League and When lebron and other stars came
into THE. NBA i don't think they were alienated and.
Maligned all you have to do is look at pre
(01:44:09):
and Post DIANA trossi a lot of great basketball, players
a ton of. THEM i played, with the McGee, twins played,
with went to school with, Mcgewins Cheryl.
Speaker 8 (01:44:19):
MILLER i trust, me plenty of great. Players but nobody
watched the. League they couldn't get eyes and ears there at,
all and there was good. Basketball Caitlin clark's increased, money increased.
Visibility now she's not doing it, alone but what she's
done is opened up the door for eyes people to
see that there are other great, players and so that
the pre without her, Was, hey great, players nobody knows
(01:44:41):
what they, are nobody talks, about and they're nobody leading
sports center with. Them Caitlin clark gets, there they're leading sports,
centertized whether you like their coverage of them or. Not
Caitlin clark is Like Tiger, woods not as big As Tiger,
woods but directly responsible for. Movement Tiger woods is directly
responsible for person's.
Speaker 1 (01:45:00):
Raising he just. Is now you're adding to, it but
he's opened the.
Speaker 8 (01:45:03):
Door everybody should be, thanked tap him on the shoulder
and say thank. You every single time he walks into
A Pga tour.
Speaker 1 (01:45:08):
Tournament the crowd you just had this last weekend at
Beth Page, black That's Tiger.
Speaker 8 (01:45:11):
Wood there's no. Doubt and With Caitlin clark and now
that the, group they see that there's more. Players but
you have to have somebody to kick open the. Door so,
no they got it all. Wrong and it's a tough
enough sport for people to watch With Caitlin. Clark so,
uh THE wnba should recognize their place and realize just
how fortunate they. Are because a couple of them, decide
(01:45:32):
Now i'm gonna go To europe and make far more.
Speaker 1 (01:45:34):
Money, yeah their host you want to sabotage your, Sport,
well they're doing a good job of. IT i was
gonna say that's that's a pretty good. Way all. Right
it's continue here on The Seawan Salisbury. Show seven, one, three,
two two, five seven ninety is the number to get.
IN i mean certain people have certain. Qualifications, others, well
then you got to ask. Questions we'll discuss Here Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 8 (01:45:53):
Show, HEY Dnm leasing just delivered a truck to a
customer who had listened to DN m for more than
twenty five. Years think about, that and he'd been hearing
these commercials, forever right for. Decades he believed leasing was
just renting a. CAR i put in air, quotes something
you only did if you couldn't afford to. Buy and
who hasn't been, there right. Guys BUT Dnm leasing's here
to change. That that changed when the dealership offered him
(01:46:15):
an eighty four month. Loan he knew he'd trade the
truck in in a few, years and he knew he'd
end up well upside down again owing more than it was. Worth,
well that's when he remembered THE dnm commercials ever seen
A texas? Title and when you trade in a long finance,
contract the only thing you own is negative. Equity those,
quotes so he CALLED dnm leasing showed him is that
(01:46:38):
leasing isn't about what you can. Afford it's simply the
smarter way most people pay for their. Vehicles. Smarter see
what smarter does for, You AND dnm leasing is. Smart
leasing isn't. Renting let me say it. Again leasing isn't.
Renting it's. Smarter who doesn't want? Smarter harder doesn't always.
Work smarter, does and especially when it puts money in
(01:46:58):
your pocket and makes it easy for you at the,
beginning the, middle and the. End dial seven to one
three two nine zero one thousand seven one three two
nine zero one, thousand or visit us at DN. M
it's DN M, leasing dmauto leasing Dot, com dmauto leasing Dot.
Com they continue to win awards and there's a reason
(01:47:18):
why DN M it's dmauto leasing Dot.
Speaker 1 (01:47:21):
Com The Shawn Salisbury show. Continued oh co.
Speaker 8 (01:47:30):
Little uh Little parker McCollum killing, me good good, single good.
CUT i like, it and, UH i think it's on
his new. Album but he's talented, Guy so give a
little sports. Fan that's a local.
Speaker 1 (01:47:40):
Guy some LOVE i like. IT i like. It Astros
uh general Manager Dana brown And joe spottam meeting with
the media. Yesterday texans getting back on the practice field
getting ready for The ravens In baltimore And, Tigers, Cubs Red,
Sox dodgers all take game one of their wild card. Series.
Uh the eye of the, box you, know has been
talking about you see What Phil mickelson said about who
(01:48:04):
should be the captain in a few years of their
Right two names he, mentioned he. Did he said in a.
Tweet here's why looking outside of golf to a coach
K or Lou holtz is worth. Exploring golf is an
individual sport that doesn't have, teamwork, supports, system, partnership team
and now, analytics personality traits and. More The europeans have
(01:48:26):
a template that teaches or prepares their captains for these.
Skills THE us has a new template every two years
with little. Continuity if coach K Or Lou holtz or
someone similar took, over would be built upon and wouldn't
would be uh would it be scrapped in start over?
Afterwards if that's the, case it's worth the time and
(01:48:46):
effort and not worth doing it to begin.
Speaker 8 (01:48:49):
With if you have great leadership, there but you've got
to have great golf guys around. You AND i know
they may both play golf and love, it but you
have to have the leadership parts one, thing but you
also have to have guys that you, know the, pairings
have to have somebody who, like, NO i don't have
any problem with one of those guys being on that
on the on the, staff AND i get What phil,
saying but the leadership, part and leadership applies to all.
(01:49:10):
Sports but the you, know the little things like all,
right why the length and this guy's, long and this
guy's on the odd, holes this guy's in the. Vinils
but that's why you have good. Committing what The europeans
do better than anybody and better than THE us and
The Ryder. Cup let me add to This Ryder cup
one last. Time you know we talked about well the
travel and the, fans and you, know The europeans played.
(01:49:31):
Better and Then friday And. Saturday listen to what an
insider AND i diverse. Did this guy is is not
only dialed, in but he also said he. Talked he
said this from an insider who was on the premise
all week at Beth page one hundred percent. Verified and
this guy's a big golf like podcast, golf, right he,
said this person wants it known that it wasn't just
(01:49:53):
pairings and set up of the golf.
Speaker 1 (01:49:55):
Course it was the. Problem he.
Speaker 8 (01:49:56):
Said TEAM usa just simply didn't. Prepare and here's what he.
Said he, Said, uh let's see m make SURE i
get it. Right so he, Said, uh if this is,
True i'm, pissed and all THE us fans should be.
Pissed this guy, said he. Goes europe played eighteen holes
eight times in the ten days leading up To. Friday
at the opening day of The Ryder. Cup THE us
(01:50:18):
they played nine holes twice and the one rainy day
they hit five holes across the. Road it felt like
they didn't. Care europe knew those, greens those, pins and
those conditions inside and out while THE us was sitting
in the clubhouse having. Lunch it struck me as really
strange and probably something that public will never hear about
since it all happened behind closed. Doors, now if that's,
(01:50:40):
true and he said it's undrescent of, verified somebody was
there every, day that's a that's a. Problem that's a.
Problem and and that'll validate to some out there who
keep saying that it. Matters AND i think it's pretty
evident the way they're dominating that the deep in their soul.
Matters that's it to The, europeans LIKE i said On,
monday in the meaning we talked, about damn we. Said
(01:51:01):
LIKE i, said we just we talked about to. Readers
for somebody who, listened IS i think they feel it
in their. GUT i think The europeans feel it their
souls and it's. Different it's just. Different they got dominated for.
Now they came back because they were embarrassed and played
better On. Sunday but if this is the way it,
is and that and That Luke donald had him that
(01:51:22):
prepared that he's, like you're going to play, golf and
we're going to play eight of the ten days and
eighteen OL's not.
Speaker 1 (01:51:27):
Nine to get ready for, this it showed, well it's
like What Steve spurrier once, SAID i hate to think
we got beat because they wanted it more than we. Did,
yes you, know yes we got to be in his,
words we got to be sixty. Minutes you, know getting
after their ass is really.
Speaker 8 (01:51:41):
Good And, okay if you're going to set up the course,
simple and then the other guy's still going to out
prepare you on the, course you set up. Problems, yeah
that's that's the first Time i've heard. That but if
the guy's on the premis and he's watching practice every
day and and you've played twice and sitting in there
having lunch while they're out shooting of fire in eighteen
holes eight of the ten days at The, flagstick well
(01:52:04):
one was worn Down friday And, saturday and it wasn't from.
Overplaying obvious hate to hear, it absolutely. Due let's get
back into The.
Speaker 1 (01:52:12):
TEXANS i Know kenneth wants to talk and you want
to join at seven one, three two one two, five
seven ninety because a real bright spot that came out
of last week THAT i think is. Sustainable we'll discuss.
Here Sean salisbury show.
Speaker 14 (01:52:24):
Putting the logic in Illogical former Pro Sean salisbury continues
to break.
Speaker 2 (01:52:31):
It down on seven.
Speaker 1 (01:52:33):
Ninety i'm gonna be a part of the upcoming Documentary
Intentional Optimism The birth OF. Espn but uh boom right,
there whether he's Good, boomer whether he's yelling AT pa
assistance for walking underneath a camera or telling people about
taking a Certain canadian. Aspirin have you ever seen that
(01:52:53):
one where he talks about taking This canadian aspirin and he's,
like it's got a little it's got a little bit
of Code union it just to give you a little.
Pop is that what he? Said, yeah he's, like he's, Like,
Bills bill's. JETS i knew this was going to be
an awful. Game he is a, Legende SO i took
a couple of. Dude dude does?
Speaker 8 (01:53:11):
That he says whenever he goes, up he's, like you,
know you go up there to To canada from The,
STATES a, Right, oh he's there's NO i mean he's
seen it from when you were when when it started
and nobody they were having like hatchet throwing, contests you,
know cutting down trees and doing.
Speaker 1 (01:53:27):
That oh yeah lumberjack to to now lumber.
Speaker 8 (01:53:31):
Game oh, yeah he's seeing it, all watching watching, dogs
dude jumping and all that, stuff and and ducks quacking and,
lumberjacks you, know wrapped up to the tree and cut
it down.
Speaker 10 (01:53:44):
And do it.
Speaker 1 (01:53:44):
All wife doing the aerobics on the damn. Right, yeah,
YEAH i.
Speaker 8 (01:53:49):
Won and the end of one with a little with
leg warmers and high top rebox on okay double strapped
at the.
Speaker 1 (01:53:55):
Top so, Yeah bloomber was for all that kids today
won't know about IT. Espn like you, know if you
went To sunday breakfast after after church and, uh you
know they put it ON espn and you got the
sports reporters On Mike lupica and all those guys on.
THERE i can tell you.
Speaker 8 (01:54:12):
This you know what the kids also don't know how
GOOD espn used to. Be the, talent the skill, set the. Cleverness,
yeah you used to want to his.
Speaker 1 (01:54:24):
APPOINTMENT i mean the only sports center That i'll watch
now IS svp like everybody, else you, know.
Speaker 8 (01:54:30):
No Scot scott creeps into the old school part if
he'd been there a long time, now but he didn't
lose The he's kept it real forever BECAUSE i mean
he's the best sports center guy they.
Speaker 1 (01:54:42):
Got that's the one, too is, like you know you
want to save? That would you go To Dan patrick
and be, like, hey, look we know you're going to
retire here in a couple of, years BUT.
Speaker 8 (01:54:50):
I got about fifty people they should go, to and
Then dan would probably be, LIKE i don't need. You
i've outgrown. You dan would, say, thanks but, yeah no.
Thanks that's WHY i love his story about when they
told him to stick around for. Morale he's like. Morale he's,
like these are, professionals nobody needs. Morale like we're doing our. Jobs,
yeah well that's the. Old, hey let's have another all you,
(01:55:11):
know players holding meeting to stop, it, Dude dan's, like,
stop we have one of those albums.
Speaker 1 (01:55:15):
Enough you don't need need to do that.
Speaker 8 (01:55:17):
Now you do need day you want somebody to turn,
around throw him and Some Kenny mayne and a few
others up on.
Speaker 1 (01:55:22):
There it'll.
Speaker 8 (01:55:23):
Change but the problem is they don't want that, now
and those kids that if you're fifteen or sixteen or twenty,
one you had never got to.
Speaker 1 (01:55:30):
SEE espn and it's. FINAL i would say That Keith
olberman is probably no longer in play for. Them.
Speaker 8 (01:55:35):
UH i don't Know Keith olberman's in play for. Anyone
i've told you, that do you? KNOW i was his
intern AT Ktla channel five before he Became keith Over,
local before he Became, yeah, well let's just put The. Keith,
well there's never been a better broadcast writer in the.
History i've heard that numerous. Times i'm telling, you somebody
(01:55:58):
comes in for the eleven O'clock Sports center at four,
o'clock three o'clock to get it written for the sports,
center for the night sports. Center that's about the time
they'll get in six seven hours write it and get
all the highlights and get him cut and shot sheets
and all, that and get it into the prompter and
do all. That oulderman could do all that about an
hour and a half two hours and write it and
do brilliant. Writer the problem is now just as talk
(01:56:21):
about derangement syndrome and he's out of his mind. Now
he literally there's Some i'm wondering there's more than a
screw missing there.
Speaker 1 (01:56:31):
Now but you could say like him or, not like
you have to even, wonder Like i'm sure Like patrick
and those guys don't talk To how can you?
Speaker 8 (01:56:39):
Right because you can't. TALK i, mean he's too, far
he's so. Extreme But i'm just talking, about LIKE i,
said person, WHATEVER i don't talk To keith, anymore but
that we disagree a little bit on some of the
stuff that he agrees on THAT i think is a
little bit. Wackle i'm being, kind but as a talent,
(01:57:01):
writer brilliant as good a broadcast writer and could stuff
he could get done in two hours that when he
was at his, best that others didn't get done in
seven special. Talent But Dan, patris The stuart's Got god
rest his, soul and The Rich eisens And Van pelts
and see when When ravis was Doing Sports, center people
Of ravi And Kenny maine And John anderson And Bucha.
Speaker 1 (01:57:22):
Grass i'm just telling, you, dude it's never been better
and it never.
Speaker 8 (01:57:27):
Will the old Baseball tonight's when they say you watch FOR, Espn,
no we watched to Watch dan And stewart and that's
that's and give us highlights with some. Cleverness And Kenny.
Mayne we didn't watch for you to tell me Who
i'm supposed to vote? For well or you know, here let's,
uh let's do a debate. Show and THEN i don't
ever Remember dan And stuart or me And Michael irvin
(01:57:48):
And stuart And dan And Rich eisen Or Scott Van
pelt ever at any point in time in, life at
any point in time in, life baiting anybody into a
race talk on a sports.
Speaker 1 (01:57:59):
Show SO i never remember that being a. Conversation we
ever had.
Speaker 8 (01:58:02):
That in, fact it was quite the opposite because of
all the life. Fatigue all you tried to do was
make it, fun entertaining and good sports prose pros and
win a. Politic when it had to cross over to,
stuff then you talked about. It but it wasn't the
basis of your foundation of what you. Did it was
it was the outlier the. Foundation what you did made
you go back and watch the Same Sports center you
(01:58:23):
saw four, times but you watched it.
Speaker 1 (01:58:25):
Again, yeah just because you watched it.
Speaker 8 (01:58:27):
Again i've seen that same highlight four, times but you
liked it because you wanted to hear The Kenny mayne
Or Dan patrick singer was nothing like it.
Speaker 1 (01:58:34):
Gone, yep that was always my. Favorite all. Right, well
LIKE i, said talk Some texans because well there was
something that we found out that was pretty good and.
Sustainable we'll do. That, also get you, involved a couple
of you that want to get in on the phone
lines Talking. Texans we get into the nine o'clock hour
Here Western, Wednesday Sean Salisbury, Show Sports talk seven ninety.

Cubs Red, Sox dodgers all take game one of their
Wild card. Series college football coming up this. Weekend It's,
(02:00:11):
wednesday start thinking about. IT uh And Texas tech gonna
take on each Other saturday. NIGHT Tdcu stadium coverage is
gonna get started at five over ON kprc nine fifty
And texas And florida earlier that afternoon from The swamp
and coverage is gonna start at one thirty On Sports
talk seven to. Ninety look At kenneth and anybody else
(02:00:32):
who wants to get in here and just second at
seven one, three two one two five seven. Ninety we
talked about this a little bit On monday of WHEN
i Heard Damiko ryans, Mentioned, YEAH i didn't call any place.
Today it was All Matt. Burke. NOW i mean he,
did of course On monday when he met with the
media again say we we put together the game, plan
we do all of, that but, no trust my guy
(02:00:53):
AND i need to make sure that my team is.
Running BECAUSE i almost wonder if that was a conversation
that was had with. Them Of, hey eventually the piper comes.
Due in terms of play. Calling, Now Andy reid a
little bit of an anomaly in that because he's been
able to do it for as long as he. Has
AND i think another huge part of that is the
(02:01:15):
coaches that he. HIRES i, mean you think That Andy
reid's gonna Tell Steve spagnolo how to run a. Defense
Steve spagnolo could, say, Brother i've done this multiple times
Winning Super. BOWLS i THINK i know What i'm.
Speaker 8 (02:01:26):
Doing Andy reid knows how to attack a, defense and
he would probably tell you That Steve spagnola would give
him a hard time. DEFENSE i, MEAN i always, SAY
i hire the guy who beat. You i've always believed
that who's the guy THAT i would hate to play?
Speaker 1 (02:01:38):
Against told you The Nick saban story With Tom herman
right that When Tom herman was leaving to come To,
houston he, goes, hey can you stop off In tuscaloosa?
First and Then, sabin with all the coaches in the, room,
goes how'd you beat? Us what did you? Do Then
herman was up there on the board telling, Him, hey
this is how we attacked. You this is what we
wanted to.
Speaker 8 (02:01:57):
Do we can't tell every quarterback of the. World talk
to your defense. Coordinator i've said it here on here
a minute. Times talk to, him find out how he'd attack.
You and it's the same thing with. This if You're Andy,
reid who would you. Hire i'm hiring the guy That
i'd have a hell of a time scoring against IF
i can get, him and why Would and on the other,
Hand i'm hiring a. Coordinator Now Andy reid's different because he's.
(02:02:18):
Both But i'm hiring an offensive coordinator THAT i would
despise having to coach against because it's he just puts
my team under major. Pressure, Listen i'm a big, believer
and it's hard for a coordinator to give up play
calling because that's how they cut their teeth and got
the job at the head coach in the first. Place
so that's part of the leadership of taking the ego
(02:02:39):
out of. IT i am never hiring a guy If
i'm a head coach ever that, well five years down the,
road he'll be ready to call. Plays why WOULD i do?
That i'm talking About i'm Gonna i'm gonna hold on
to it for five. YEARS i know you want to
teach him your, way but first, off it takes five.
Years that's a little too. Long But i'm going to
do enough to diligence BEFORE i hire him to. Know
(02:03:02):
we speak the same language, now not the same language robotic,
wise but the same language of what we're trying to get.
ACCOMPLISHED i want your input for Some, Well i'm bringing
you here to add something that we haven't heard yet
and how we would attack, it and you apply. BOTH
i think it is. Wise and of, course If i'm
the head, coach, Hell I'm Andy. REID i want to
know What spags is doing this. Week i'm not gonna go.
(02:03:23):
Medal i'm gonna go sit in a. Room but we're
gonna have our normal hour. Meet say how are we
attacking this team this? Week because if You're Andy reid
and it's a similar, system you could also look At
spags And spags can lean on. Him Say, andy when
we're playing two man in a red zone this team
does this agree with it or?
Speaker 1 (02:03:38):
Disagree how would you set this?
Speaker 8 (02:03:40):
Up and if you were going to adjust to my,
defense what formation would you use to put pressure on?
Speaker 13 (02:03:44):
Me?
Speaker 1 (02:03:45):
Bam red?
Speaker 8 (02:03:45):
Zone play get hey, man play outside leverage when they
motion go from man kick at the, zone play outside
leverage and trying to run that sprint right flat they
can't get the flat and make sure you got to
make sure the number two is doing a whip, out
that you're taking that away and don't leave your zone
to chase down the guy in the flat who's already
covered because we got outside leverage with the. Corner whatever it,
is you got to do. That and HERE i think it's,
(02:04:07):
important especially your third year head. Coach we know you
cut your teeth on, it but remember the opportunity you
were Given Tamiko rance to be the coordinator do the.
Same you should have Hire you should hire a guy
that you already know that you trust to call. It
if that's the, case you're not gonna go out and
Hire he Trusted Nick Kaylee verbage in the way they've
(02:04:28):
done in the, past that he's seen and the guys
he's brought.
Speaker 1 (02:04:30):
From i'm just telling you why he hired. Him i'm
just telling you with a little bit OF i get.
Speaker 8 (02:04:37):
It, well probably putting a little more experience with a
young here's a. Problem, yeah, YEAH i like. Him young head,
coach rookie, coordinator rookie offensive line, coach third year. Quarterback
so where's the who do you lean? On you're not
leaning on the head coach to call plays, offensively, right
(02:04:58):
and you're you're not, asking, hey, man with your experience
call in. Plays, WELL i don't call. Plays this is
my first. Time can't lean on. Him, well we're in,
now our second offensive COORDINATOR. Cj, well we got a
lot going on. OFFENSIVE i got a lot to worry
about that, now and NOW i gotta PUT i gotta
know more about the game plan than. You, no, okay
well what about the. Offense, well he's still trying to
get his guys to protect because he's never been an
(02:05:18):
offensive line the main offensive line. Coach so see where
all this is coming. In it's, like now who you leaning? On,
well who you leaning on? Offensively so is it's a.
Growth you got to have somebody that can pull you,
along not just push you. Along, okay you gotta have.
BOTH i think the.
Speaker 1 (02:05:32):
Other thing that also this can maybe guard. Against like
it's not like the offense is gonna start playing better
Because demiko is not having the play sheet in front of.
HIM i get all of, that but there's a Natural,
okay well you want to do this because you're a defensive.
Guy defensive, guys what do they? Want they want ball,
control they want to win the line of. Scrimmage don't
don't don't tire down my. DEFENSE i mean that's how
(02:05:54):
you get you, know old school reference here, dated but
go look it. Up that's how you Get Buddy ryan
going and Punching Kevin gilbright in the. Face is because it's,
hey look at how awesome our offense, is and you
Get Buddy ryan, saying, yeah it's really, awesome especially when
you're gassing my.
Speaker 8 (02:06:08):
Guys most defensive coaches want you to offensively to coach
offensively like they play.
Speaker 1 (02:06:16):
DEFENSE i want.
Speaker 8 (02:06:17):
Ballance they want. Balance i'm talking about. It even in
nutcot in. Time they want. Balance they want you to
be to attack them at the line of. Scrimmage keep
this ball control shortened the, game and they despise what
they don't like to defend wide open, spaces tackling in,
space creating formational and personnel groupings that put my defense
(02:06:39):
in overthinking. Minds nobody wants that you. Want and as
an offensive, guy you know what you. Want listen When
Ben johnson's when it's right down to it In chicago
and it's third and two and they've run and they're
at the eighteen yard. Line you think he's going to
play it. Safe, no and it's a ti tie. Game
he ain't playing for the field goal, dude he don't
want put a field goal. Kickers, HEY i mean on his.
(02:07:01):
Foot he got to. Go he's got to do something
that allows him out. There, yeah get, Back, yes we're.
Speaker 1 (02:07:06):
Going he ain't.
Speaker 8 (02:07:07):
Playing there's those, guys and they're always gonna think thirty
is not. Enough defensive head, coaches now you get the
bonus to, do and of course they want to win,
big but their thought process Is seventeen's, enough, dude get
me to. Seventeen, now what happens if your defense has
a bad day that day and the other team scores
twenty well or twenty four or thirty. One so that's
just that's in THEIR dna because that's how they do.
(02:07:28):
It so it's important, though that the team understand that
during the week it's all three, phases even though they'll
tell you it. Is if you're the defensive coordinator and
the head, coach it can't. Be it's a unique cat
that can do both and excel at. Both it's hard
to be a doctor and a lawyer at the same.
Time it's tough enough to get a doctorate and go
to medical school and to go to law school at
(02:07:49):
the same time be a you, know a prosecuting attorney
or a defense, lawyer and then all of a sudden
you're an orthopedic. Surgeon it's tough to do them both
the same, time same thing, here and you've got to
be unique and. Different but as a young head, coach
the hardest thing to do is let go of what
got you the head coaching. Job when's the last time
they hired an assistant offensive line?
Speaker 1 (02:08:07):
Coach to be a head.
Speaker 8 (02:08:07):
Coach when's the last time they hired the receiver coach
who hasn't been the coordinator to be the head. Coach
it's been a minute THEY i mean the last one
THAT i can remember Was harball special. Teams special teams
got but was With Andy reid forever and was In,
philadelphia and the world was, shocked not because The hardballs can't,
coach because damn guy hasn't even coordinated, yet what are
(02:08:29):
we doing? Here and it's turned out, well smart Hire
john had great leadership skills and still. Does and it's
the leadership skills also a special teams that.
Speaker 1 (02:08:36):
You, know the entire team and special.
Speaker 8 (02:08:38):
Teams it takes a different breed to, coach and they
needed they needed a different breed and he brought that to.
It and you'll never have to worry for the most
part about special teams being a, priority just like defensive
backs At alabama With nick snab and so you always
coach to your to what you do. Now the the
expertise is coaching to what you think offensively or, defensively
(02:08:59):
but being willing to be able to make adjustments and
say today what we wanted to do ain't it and
to have the ability for your coordinator to, say ramp it, up,
dude turn this thing loose our defense just and recognize
in the middle of the center, quarter today's just not.
Hit you know when your pitcher's not going, Good now
he may. Grind you just know which, means, man we're
going to try to push, him but we need three more.
(02:09:21):
Runs it's the same thing, Here SO i applaud him
for doing. It you can always take it. Back but
what if you find out that now you can focus
takes that. Off you don't have to be carrying a
place sheet run because you cannot focus one hundred percent
on all three if you're if you're running two of, them,
well at that point in, time it's, like, okay you
know WHEN i say all three meaning defense head, coach
(02:09:42):
but there's really four then the special teams in the.
Offense but as a head, coach you got a third
and one. Third and what if you're thinking about the
decisions on defense you're going to do when you get
the they get the ball back and it's fourth and
a half a yard and you're, like oh my, gosh
it's fourth and a half. YARD i was just talking
to my, linebacker what we're going to do when they
get the ball back? Right hard to do takes a unique.
Individual the Second Mike holmgan gave up being THE gm
(02:10:04):
and the head, coach they went to the Super bowl
the very next. Year, well Because mike did what he,
does calls place exactly what you.
Speaker 1 (02:10:11):
SAID i, mean it's it's one of those that if
you can't it's hard to do two jobs when you're
trying to just two one primo. Jobs.
Speaker 8 (02:10:19):
Right And i'm not saying you're an assistant at one
in the. Head you are THAT i want your hands,
on but you at some point got to. Impact if
you can't trust the guy you, hired.
Speaker 1 (02:10:28):
You hired the wrong.
Speaker 12 (02:10:29):
Guy.
Speaker 1 (02:10:29):
Bingo that's it at any.
Speaker 8 (02:10:31):
Position IF i can't trust, well, Man i'm a little
worried about my tight.
Speaker 1 (02:10:34):
Ends and it's.
Speaker 8 (02:10:36):
Continuous if you go into a game plan you, SAY
i don't know if the game plan is any, good
DON'T i don't? Know IF i trust, him then you
you better make a decision. Quickly and when you got
a guy that you decided to hire yourself as a,
coordinator you better turn it over to him and know. That,
listen this is what they DID i hired him for
a reason because he kind of kind of hired him
(02:10:57):
because you think. There you hired him because you, think
you know the guy's gonna be, great and if he
doesn't be, great you move. On but you can't hire
a guy to. Think, man you can't go into game plans. Hoping,
brother you just. Can't, well if you, hope then eventually
it's gonna lose your. Job, well the offense has been
hoping for about two years now now a year and four,
games and we gotta get rid of the hope and
get rid of the no fact and bring in the no.
(02:11:18):
FACTOR i know now they're gonna out execute it, sometimes
BUT i know the Guy i'm supposed to, BLOCK i
know the, ROUTE i know Who i'm supposed to throw.
To and if you can't do, that and you can't
trust the coordinator on third and two to finish each
other's sentences and know what you're looking, FOR i should
already know What demiko wants on third and. Two, Oh
i've already looked. Ahead we're up. Three, boom they're coming.
Back the defense is playing and as an offensive, coordinator
(02:11:40):
you got to know they're pitching a shout out TODAY
i can be a little bit more. Aggressive, YEAH i
can take some more, shots knowing that even if we
throw it, away if the ball gets tipped and picked
in the red, zone that they got to go ninety seven,
yards they ain't doing it against our. Defense, bam let
me take a shot. Here just be smart with the.
Football maybe a turning point for The.
Speaker 1 (02:11:58):
Texans someone three two and two five seven ninety against
someone three two and two five seven ninety will continue
the conversation here on A Western, Wednesday Shawn Salisbury, Show
Sports talk seven, ninety.
Speaker 17 (02:12:10):
The hottest taste In houston's sports so emotionally tied to the.
Speaker 14 (02:12:15):
Team The Sean Salisbury show, continues all, right that's not
On Sports talk seven.
Speaker 1 (02:12:20):
Ninety someone three two and two five seven ninety is
the number to get In kenneth in my dad's. Hometown
orange wants to jump In. Kenneth good, Morning.
Speaker 3 (02:12:30):
Hey.
Speaker 19 (02:12:30):
Roan, Yeah i'm not really An. ORANGE i. WAS i
made that original call AND i was In orange that.
Morning uh on the delivery.
Speaker 1 (02:12:38):
COOL i was born and raised In.
Speaker 19 (02:12:40):
Midtown but, anyway, Man, Uh, sean you touched on that
about the play calls and stuff like, that and then
and Then i'm looking at two. Things and y'all brong
or some once before a Boy Bes. Rolston you, know
question is what you want on your team off This?
Rolston but you know it got my, mind you, Know
(02:13:00):
and AGAIN i was just, thinking Man Eli manning really
didn't have no all star. Roster and AND i AND
i look at these.
Speaker 18 (02:13:11):
These Uh Foo bowl teams that really didn't have no
hell of uh. Roster but it was a combination of some.
Things AND i look at right, now man If Eli
manning was, HERE i think he can he could tell
he could win The Super bowl over what we, got you.
Know but in, essence man and this is What i'm,
saying is that the tension is only good as our play.
Speaker 19 (02:13:35):
Caller and, literally.
Speaker 18 (02:13:39):
Without a head coach that can really run that, offense
we're only as good as our. Coordinator and, fundamentally this
play caller is our head, coach you, know correct where
If i'm, wrong thank, YOU i appreciate.
Speaker 1 (02:13:58):
IT i, mean, look, yes since he is on the, offense,
well BUT i mean like it's also too if you
want to have that. CONVERSATION i, mean in their, PRIME
oc And Michael strahan and That giants, defense they were
a huge, reason at least for the first one while
he got it and then the running. Game BUT i,
Mean Plexico burrs before he shot himself in the leg
was a pretty good. Receiver Mario manningham pretty good. Receiver
(02:14:21):
Victor cruz pretty good. Receiver Like it's not like he
had a bunch of bums around him and a bunch of.
Stiffs and it's the old conversation. Too oh, well great
quarterbacks raised the play of their, receiver, PERHAPS i. GUESS
i mean it's Always brady that people go back.
Speaker 8 (02:14:37):
To DANNIE.
Speaker 1 (02:14:38):
A mondola was a pretty good, receiver AND i, mean,
yes he he hit his stride.
Speaker 4 (02:14:42):
There In New.
Speaker 1 (02:14:43):
England you Know Julian, edelman same, deal converted, quarterback but
still became a pretty decent. Receiver but do you really
Think brady met Made Rob gronkowski much? BETTER i. Do
i'm one hundred and eighty degrees different than. YOU i
am with.
Speaker 8 (02:14:57):
HIM i think the guys there's a certain trait in
the great Ones i've been around that elevate people's. Play
there's No i've watched The giants, there whether it's, energy, execution.
Focus The giants team was far more focused With Jackson.
Dart they played like it. Too they played with. Them
their defense got six, sacks they went and got after
(02:15:19):
who they beat The? Chargers, Correct, yeah a team that's
Got Super bowl aspirations and pretty damn good and they mauled.
Them the game was pretty, close but they The giants
put it on, them and there's different energy And Jackson
dart don't know how to play. Yet so whether it's
execution of a, play did you go in? EXPECTATIONS i
can remember talking to a RECEIVER i leave his name
Out Indiapolis colts When manning was there AND i asked,
(02:15:42):
HIM i, said what's it? Like and Not Marvin harrison
and Not Reggie, wayne but a guy who's been there
and was With peyton for a. While so what was
like first time he went out and practiced with? Him
and what was your thought process on when you went
out to practice a game LIKE i can't disappoint the
guy because the wrath and so what did you? Do
(02:16:02):
there's a little bit. More some people. Operate Michael irvan
will tell You michael operated out of fear of, failure
and it drove him, right and it constantly drove. Him
and then when you go, right that's another. Thing and he'll, Say,
SEAN i never ever and never ever allowed Talk troy. Ever,
yeah And troy would be the guy That michael never
would question, him but he'd be the guy, says Whatever troy,
(02:16:24):
wants we'll. Get But troy will tell you That michael's
there was a table. Setter it practiced. It the reason
they practiced well Because michael demanded.
Speaker 1 (02:16:30):
It SO i do. Disagree DO i Think rob?
Speaker 8 (02:16:33):
Groncast first, off every receiver's better when ball placement's. Better
there is no doubt who's. Better who elevates your, Game
Drew brees Or Zach wilson's ball. Placement so ball, placement
you're damn. Right And batman Talking Drew brees late in the,
career how many receivers are going to get paid more
Because Joe burrow And Matt stafford than somebody who can't
(02:16:54):
get him the ball accurately and when their contract comes
up numbers, Wise, yeah it does. Matter AND i have.
One i've been on a team when whether it's a
change or whether you get a. Warn Chris carter played
better With Warren. Moon Chris carter played well with everybody
because he's a damn good. Player but there Are i'm
the right. Guard the thought of man he's. Playing he's
(02:17:16):
a six and a half or, SEVEN a solid, player
not a great. One Oh brady's back. There i'm i
gotta do stuff. Different, yes it is not only, relevant
it's palpable and it does. EXIST i. Do now does
that mean you? Can will your team put it this?
Way brady and guy's playing better didn't Stop Steve spagoles
four man rush from kicking their ass in The Super.
(02:17:36):
Bowl so there comes a point time when it still
gets down to. Execution but there is no doubt that certain,
guys in certain moments special ones Make The Cincinnati bengals
were a, franchise the, cheap struggling. Nothing burl got there
and immediately within what three is there in The Super.
Bowl now there's other players that, helped but why it's Not.
(02:18:00):
Burrel but they got better because he helped make them.
Better If i'm almost think believer in special guys change the.
Culture who's making you BETTER a forty eight a guy
who completes fifty percent or a guy Like Drew brees
who completes seventy four percent and expects you to be
in the right spot and demands it every. Day answer that,
Right so there's the answer and that he's. Right Other
(02:18:22):
Eli manning could take this team or. Not the coordinator
and the rest of. It who, Knows BUT i know
some guys who would have the team. Elevated and we THINK.
Cj stroud is that. Guy that's the next level of
his career of not just the, numbers but where people
are elevating their game because that, guy and it may
not be the quarterback and maybe the middle, linebacker middle
linebacker leadership who elevates the guys around him because you
(02:18:43):
know what They he demands that you study with. Him
And i've watched it happen where guys aren't studying and
then all of a sudden they have a guy come
and sit in the room and they don't want to
leave before.
Speaker 1 (02:18:52):
Him it's like. Coaches i'm a head, Coach DO i
leave the building before the head coach? Does most won't
because they're afraid the death of.
Speaker 8 (02:18:58):
It then you'll get a good head coach walks by
your ability and, says take your ass home and spend
it with your.
Speaker 1 (02:19:02):
Family go home and get YOUR. I so you get
home and you eat dinner with your.
Speaker 8 (02:19:06):
Family i'm firing you, all see you back here at nine,
o'clock put your kid to, bed and then come back
and finish. Studying that's, fine but there's a demand and
an accountability, factor and maybe that's the word that certain
guys bring out in. Everybody doesn't mean you're gonna win them,
all but they do. Elevate i'm telling you right, Now
Josh allen elevates the players around him In.
Speaker 1 (02:19:27):
Buffalo that he just.
Speaker 8 (02:19:28):
Does and when you have that, feeling and you, know
going into a, Game elway told me years, AGO i,
Said John, wood is we having a beard this?
Speaker 1 (02:19:35):
TURN i, Said, john what is it that makes you
able to do? This there are times when you're not
even having a good. Game AND i was. SERIOUS i
wanted to. SCIENTIST i wanted a deep.
Speaker 8 (02:19:43):
Answer BY i was young in my, career AND i,
said what is it that you're Going you're seventeen of twenty,
seven it's for one, ninety but you're not playing real
well yet with two minutes to, go things change or
late in the fourth, quarter the Expectant yo, SHAN i don't.
Know he, said it happened, once it happened a second,
time come from behind victory and he said in the third,
(02:20:05):
time he, GOES i don't have a big answer for,
you my. Man he said they expected it on the third,
time they expected it. Wasn't, OH i, HOPE i. Hope
by the third time it was like we. Expect now
forty five times, later you're still doing, it so there's an.
Expectation this is no longer. MAN i Hope john can do.
It it got to the point where this Is mikey
and the life serial commercial. Man let's Get. John he'll do.
(02:20:27):
Anything and you know, what sometimes they're the only answer
is simply that guy makes me, better just like a
good wife makes you better or a bad one makes you.
Worse same with a. Husband you know, what do they
say you're you're about the ten people you're. Around, well
if you're around those guys that elevate your, game you'll
play better because you expect more from yourself and he
(02:20:48):
expects more from, you and so you try to show
it's no question yea for the, way it's absolutely al
will get you.
Speaker 1 (02:20:54):
Involved you want to join them seven one, three two
one two five seven. Ninety, also before we get out
of here this, morning a addition the astros could make
THAT i don't think a lot of people are counting.
On we'll discuss right Here Sean salisbury's show on A
Western Wednesday SPORTS soarx seven Ninety.
Speaker 8 (02:21:10):

you would on a mortgage for a car. Payment aren't
you tired of?
Speaker 5 (02:21:37):
IT i KNOW i.
Speaker 8 (02:21:39):
Was and then Dnm Audel leasing comes into play and you're, saying,

Speaker 1 (02:22:56):
Com for The shawn Sell very show, Continued so let's
go WITH. Q q wants to get. In good, MORNING.
Speaker 12 (02:23:05):
Q what's going on my brother's WHEN i was listening to, Talk,
shawn stop me If i'm wrong or illegict any time
you feel, uh when you said that a coach who
hired makes a big. Difference and if you don't believe,
it why HIED i got a great. EXAMPLE i remember
(02:23:28):
back in the, nineties a coach Named Jimmy johnson hired
north turn of the college Play he's on. Offense he
Hired dave Wants that to run his. Defense he had
Good davis running his. Office AND i know you know
About Hudson howton that.
Speaker 8 (02:23:42):
OFFENSIVE i, know WELL i Was, hudson How Dave wantstead
in North. Turner we're all on the staff WHEN i
went TO. Usc North turner was my coordinator for four.
Years so all that he would he would have got
the good. Ones damn, right he. Didn't you can, coach
and you can.
Speaker 12 (02:23:57):
COACH i followed me and being, Right michael even a
direct lines Of Hubbard alexander a direct line to his offensive,
coordinator you, know Because hubby would go up there and ten,
Man mike did they running covered? Too and nowhere in
the wood it. Coming you, Know, look you don't run them,
slants you, know.
Speaker 19 (02:24:15):
Show AND i mean that kind of to, you to.
Speaker 12 (02:24:18):
You very rarely Thought Jimmy johnson would have head fit
on because he had everybody else that he hides doing
their for, it and he was just the direct other.
Symphony so say so when you take that. Show it
made me think about that BECAUSE i Really i'm a
Big Jimmy johnsons say that even when you get you, Know, Miami.
Speaker 2 (02:24:37):
Oklahoma and that's what he.
Speaker 8 (02:24:39):
Did you, know a cue before you. Go you know
what's great about that? Too, See Jimmy johnson hired guys
he expected to be head. Coaches jimmy wasn't a. Threat
here's the, problem And i'm telling you it does. Exist
there are some guys who will not hire guys that
are a threat to them in the building meaningly that,
well what if this guy's successful And i'm not and
(02:25:00):
he's in line to take much Up jimmy there and win.
Peel that doesn't. Exist your asset. Done that's why they'll
hire a friend that. Time i'm not talking about, Here
i'm talking about. Anywhere so you go out and that's
why the. Friendship buddy Well, man you've been together since
nineteen seventy. Five, yeah but are you changing along the
way with? Me and When jimmy hired Coaches wanstead great defensive,
coordinator why? What and on WHEN i go through our
(02:25:21):
staff from weird as he, did it was. Ridiculous and
when they went on to coach And North turner AND
i love a head coach without the headset.
Speaker 1 (02:25:30):
On you want to know.
Speaker 8 (02:25:30):
Why that tells me and tells them. Automatically and if
somebody the guy walks over in his assistants, hole you,
know the getback, coach or guy's holding, this the cord
guy holding his. HEADSET i love. It you're focusing on the.
Game your eyes are on the, game and that tells.
Me it's like if a quarterback's dropping back to having
a tough, game but it's the first quarter you've missed
(02:25:52):
for in a, row and all of a, sudden you
see the backup quarterback warming up on the. Sidelines that's a,
note that's a. Protocol don't do it if you're a backup.
Quarterback less the coach told you to get warmed, up
because that's, said oh, man he's not you know What i'm,
say unless he's. Hurt because it's just why is that
dude warming up unless you're holding for the. Kicker stop.
It and if you got a coach to you're looking over,
there so there's a trust factor that you're not doing.
Speaker 1 (02:26:14):
That it's the same with the.
Speaker 8 (02:26:15):
Coach Jimmy johnson knew That North turner and Hud houck
And Dave wanstead And Butch davis had it. Handled Dave
campbell at, linebacker he made a handle and guess, what
and guess what if they, didn't your ass was gonna
hear about it until you proved THAT i can't trust.
Speaker 1 (02:26:32):
You we're gonna be. Fine when you prove THAT i,
can't you're not long for this. Gig and so that's.
Speaker 8 (02:26:37):
Why and Then jimmy could focus on interaction with the
players where somebody's not in Ear, now if you wanted
what was that, play ask, somebody then slide it. ON
i love, it AND i think that shows a lot of.
Speaker 1 (02:26:47):
Trust no.
Speaker 8 (02:26:48):
PROBLEM, q great stuff, man great point about that, staff
and inevitably what. Happened Dave wanstead head coach many, times
a couple of. Times, Uh North turner head. Coach, now
those guys weren't. Great head coach doesn't mean any more
But hall Of fame type. Assistance But davis had some good.
RUNS i, mean dude AT. Sc, now think about This Hudson,
hawk who is if we put assistant coaches in The
(02:27:09):
hall Of, Fame he's an A hall Of fame offensive line,
Coach North turner offensive, Coordinator Dave wanstead defensive, coordinator defensive
line GUY U R. C slocum defensive, coordinator defensive line.
Coach he was, There Chuck pagono graduate, assistant a graduate,
assistant and then let's see, Well Marv goo legendary defensive line.
(02:27:34):
COACH Rg gigantino coached in THE. Nfl was a great personnel.
Guy outside linebacker coach Coach Del rio in that group
THAT i can go. On Pat, morris offensive line coach
When hudhalk left to go to THE nfl twenty years
or plus of. It Russ parnell special teams COACH. Nfl after,
that all of them went on to Phenomenal chris our
(02:27:54):
wide receiver. Coach goes on and Is Mike holmgren's because
homework was AT. Sc holmbron's AN sc. Guy holmgren he hires.
Him he was At Gil, haskell our wide receiver, coach
offensive coordinator in THE. Nfl all these guys hired guys
they expected either better, jobs move up the, ladder. Promote
Jimmy johnson was spectacular at it and it wasn't just great.
(02:28:17):
Players to the array of assistant coaches On jimmy staff
are also a big reader And jimmy Will jimmy ah
shinaw With jimmy was a brilliant talent guy and, motivator
but he also knew when he hired those. Guys he
didn't hire. Them, MAN i THINK i can Trust Hudson.
Hawk it Was i'm getting the best offensive line coach
on a. Planet and did The cowboys play like?
Speaker 3 (02:28:36):
That?
Speaker 1 (02:28:37):
Yeah you think? So it, does and it does.
Speaker 8 (02:28:40):
Matter if you hire a guy you're not sure you can,
trust you're doomed for failure. Already and that's A, ceo
that is a, coach that's a high school. Coach if
they're walking into the building and you've got the, question
CAN i trust him On?
Speaker 1 (02:28:53):
Sundays CAN i trust him in the meeting?
Speaker 8 (02:28:55):
Room CAN i trust him to be my guy when
people are bad mouth and? Me CAN i trust to
squelch it whether it's a his pick or bring it to?
Speaker 1 (02:29:03):
Me all those?
Speaker 8 (02:29:04):
Things biggest word in sports. Trust if you trust, them
they'll either answer they, won't and then you just move
on from. It but if you don't trust them and
you hire, them you are number one not the right
leader for. Me and number two is now they may
fail him with their success and you got to move.
On that happens all the. Time but if you can't
trust them when you hire, them that falls back on
(02:29:25):
the head coach of THE gm you should not have hired.
Speaker 1 (02:29:28):
Them i'm saying that it is the case With TEXANS.
ZOC i don't know that yet.
Speaker 8 (02:29:36):
There we're only four games, in BUT i just know
across the league and some find out real quick. MAN
i THOUGHT i could trust him more and that guy
will be A there's a lot of times it's not
even the failures of on the.
Speaker 1 (02:29:46):
Field at times like one year and they're. Gone do
you know?
Speaker 8 (02:29:49):
What they figure out? Quickly we got a problem in the,
building like you would with a. Player they had a
problem in. HERE i don't like What i'm. Hearing got
to get him out now or it's going to permeate
through and we're going to have clicks and you can't have.
It they may not like, you but they got to
respect you enough that you trust. Him and IF i
can't trust a coordinator to call place for me in
any part in this, league at any, level THEN i
am not sure WHEN i say trust. Meeting he's a
(02:30:11):
better position coach than a, coordinator AND i know THAT
i just don't feel comfortable, with then keep him as
a president, coach or he'll leave and go be a
coordinator somewhere. Else but if you can't trust him to
run that, OFFENSE i tell, quarterbacks if you can't run
an offense without your offensive coordinator there and you can't
get through the, playsheet then you're not studying. Enough and
if the play caller can't get you in the right,
play and you know he, can't why in the world
(02:30:32):
would you hire? Him if there's any question on the
trust that's got to be one hundred percent, foolproof then
you're going to learn on the, job maybe the. Philosophy
but if he's not speaking your language and trust and
you hire, him then you deserve to.
Speaker 1 (02:30:45):
Fail natural, segue BECAUSE i feel like there is somebody
the astros can trust and, maybe just maybe they could be.
Available we'll discuss all.
Speaker 8 (02:30:55):

that man in this building on this show a couple
of years, ago when he was on his you, know

(02:32:57):
was at the very, end you, thought, okay his career
is winding.
Speaker 6 (02:33:00):
Down.
Speaker 8 (02:33:00):
Yep we had suggested on this show that, somehow some,
way that guy needs to be in the. Dugout with
all due, respect a guy like Carlos, krey who's a
good leader and all, that there's nobody who handled a
pitching staff, better including pitching, coaches than that. Guy he's
got a great feel for. It i'm not saying to
be the pitching, coach but to be around like a bench.
Speaker 1 (02:33:19):
Coach let me ask you, this what happened With even
if it was, unintentional let's just say, that who do
you think is the one that, says let me talk to?

talk to. Him that they'd have to. Say you'd go
right up to him and be, like, exactly what the
thumb you're coming with?
