Speaker 1 (00:04):
Okay, let's do this.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Sewn Salisbury.
Speaker 3 (00:12):
To usc True's longtime friend, Sewn Salisbury.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Dan Matthew, excuse, this is the Sean Salisbury show.
Speaker 4 (00:23):
And he will score without a throw.
Speaker 5 (00:26):
An RBI single for Andy a Banyas and three batters
into the game, the Tigers have a one nothing lead,
the one to Torklesen, and that's hit down the right
field line, slicing. Will it stay fair? Yes it will.
It dunks in fair and bounces into the seats. A
run will score as Torres comes home. A banya stops
(00:46):
at third on the automatic double by Torklesen, who picks
up an RBI to make it two to nothing. First
pitch and Green takes it inside and it gets away
from the catcher Das. That'll allow another run to score
as a Banyas crosses the plate three nothing times.
Speaker 4 (01:00):
What a disaster.
Speaker 5 (01:01):
First pitch inside and that gets away from Diaz into
the backstop. Another run scores as Torkelsen comes in on
the second goes Green just so horrible. First inning for
the Astros. Down four to nothing and that's cranked to
center in deep tremmel back. A rate is up, can't
make the cat It's off the base of the wall.
(01:23):
Tremmell crashes into the wall Green around third and coming
home Painya will not make a relay to the plate,
as Green scores. It's an RBI triple for Dylan Dingler
and a five nothing lead for the Tigers. In the
first Tremmell almost came up with that wand up just
behind him as he's a little shaken up getting to
his feet after hitting the wall round it sharply through
(01:45):
the left side of base hit. Dingler scores Bias his
first hit of the series as an RBI single.
Speaker 4 (01:50):
It's six nothing, Detroit.
Speaker 6 (01:52):
Sorry, it's needed to be able to take a couple
of seconds after just that awful off first inning yesterday,
and Sean, it's not like it got any better. As
a matter of fact, it didn't. You were just biding
your time. Yes, the Astros score a couple of runs,
whoop do you do? But you were just not competitive
(02:12):
from the beginning.
Speaker 7 (02:13):
Well scoring too when you give up seven I do believe, Well,
are they giving trophies away for actually just pushing a
runner across?
Speaker 6 (02:24):
If they do, I don't want it. Well, did they
score more runs or leave more runners on base? I
think they left more on base than they spoke. Yeah,
so just to tack we can, we can. Now you
know the left on base. If if that counted in
your score, well the Astros would have.
Speaker 4 (02:39):
Had a chance or been close. I uh.
Speaker 6 (02:42):
Put traffic on the bases. Traffic on the bases, that's
a win.
Speaker 7 (02:45):
Yes, what traffic on the bases means if you don't
bring them across.
Speaker 4 (02:49):
Traffic on the basis, No, you know what that is.
That's that's going too.
Speaker 6 (02:53):
You go to a casino, you know, you go to
the cage, you get or you know, you change out
the table whatever it is, and you know, you go
to the table and you come away and oh, you know, hey,
how'd you do? I lost three hundred, you know, but
but you know I had I had five hundred at
one point.
Speaker 7 (03:09):
Yeah, well yeah, yeah loss, I was up five hundred.
Well what would you leave Vegas with exactly? Well I
lost twelve hundred dollars. Yeah, listen, you can with all
the good we talked about, and we're all optimistic and
we root for great stuff. But you just got to
call what you watch man, and we'll get into, you know,
Dana Brown, what we talked about yesterday.
Speaker 4 (03:26):
I'm sure.
Speaker 7 (03:27):
We'll get into that at nauseum today, which is a
good thing because we need to because there's some things
I'm the the the Way to the World they're putting
on your non just from yesterday's conversation. That's a lot
to stomach for a guy who's been out one hundred
plus days or whatever it's been.
Speaker 4 (03:43):
So we'll get to that. But the truth of the
matter is, my man, is this is not a good
hitting team. They're just not.
Speaker 7 (03:51):
And uh, that's why I was staying, what yesterday when
we were talking about what concerts were you ready to explode?
Speaker 4 (03:57):
What is that?
Speaker 7 (03:58):
What does he see that tells him that? And I
think the one thing he's kind of emphasized yesterday is
the guy in the minor leagues is getting ready to
come up here soon hopefully that that's what tells you,
and that everybody else will get better. And you know, well,
if even if you pitch around Jordon, if the other
guys aren't hitting, he'll continue to pitch around yord On.
(04:20):
So listen, we can make all we want. Oh, there's
some bad luck and walks Fromber. If Fromber's mental toughness
matched his physical skills and emotional toughness, you'd have a
guy done get beat. This team right now is very average.
They're not average talent wise, that they are underachievers at
the plate. It's an underachieving But this is you can say, now,
(04:42):
they may go get hot for twenty games. Honestly, we
know they may. We can say that about anything. We
can say the Colorado Rockies may get hot. This is
a talented team. The problem is not as talented in
the past, or this wouldn't happen, and they are at
the plate. This is an underachieving, undisciplined, the clutch genes
missing with people at the plate. It just is this year,
(05:06):
and we're so used to it being the other way.
It's like what and it's not. Oh it's over and
a woe is me and looks the sky's falling and
they don't have a chance. They still getting help from
their friends in Seattle. I mean, you know what I'm saying. Well,
it was still like what a game and a half
in front of first place? So which one of these
teams is going to come out of it first? I
just know this potential's great. I'll say it again. Potential
(05:28):
gets to a point where all the grind and grit
and all that gets to a point, but it's production
that matters, and right now they're not producing. This team
is not capable of winning a World Series or even
a playoff series with the way they're hitting right now.
And it's it's a lot, dude. I'm sitting here. I
was tooling around the house and had to get so
I had to do the show yesterday and I'll see
(05:50):
you turn it on And before I blinked, I'm like, what,
he didn't. I didn't have a chance to sit my
ass down. I'm like, what, I'm standing up with teav
And I was like, what am I watching here already?
Speaker 4 (06:00):
I thought. I looked at and thought it was like
two days before that.
Speaker 5 (06:03):
I'm that.
Speaker 4 (06:03):
I like, okay, this is a but then I will
know the games. It's actually live again. Ye an afternoon game. Yes,
so this is it. I uh, we can. You can
have all the optimism of the world. We all do.
Speaker 7 (06:16):
We all love this team, we all want them to
win it all, but you got to get out of
the homer mode if you're one of those, and just
judge them on baseball terms alone. I had a great
conversation with Chipper Jones yesterday, and one of the conversations
we had was what bothers him about. He says, it's
a hard watch for him now watching baseball, that he
the analytics, he gets, but he doesn't understand how, you
(06:38):
know why it's all Some people then think that's the
look at a number and a piece of paper. Some
guy who knows numbers, he said, and don't tell me.
And we were talking, I said, he said, don't tell
me that just putting the ball in play doesn't matter.
There's a lot more that can happen good for you
as a as a hitter when you put the ball
in play than when you strike out. So a strikeout
is not the same as a ground out. Now, the
(06:59):
resultings up the same, but the opportunity to do something
with it doesn't. And this is coming from a guy
who hit three sixty four one year and led the
league in average. Is I think the only guy right
now in history If not, it's what five hundred slug
five hundred, I mean a five hundred slugging percentage in
his career five hundred. It was the three five hundreds,
(07:21):
and he was almost five hundred home runs. The guys
I mean an eight time All Star and nineteen years
in his career, a Hall of Famer first pick. I mean, dude,
it's crazy when you go down the list and I
knew he was great, but do you started looking deep
in everything? I even asked him, I said, did you?
I mean, look at your career in your resume.
Speaker 4 (07:39):
And when I introduced to him, I said, look at
your career and resume.
Speaker 7 (07:43):
I said, you went from the first pick. Normally the
first pick of the draft doesn't go through and do
all this stuff. You know, you have a good year
in All Star. But he just knocking pins down all
the way. So he's got the average side where he
knows he dude, he had almost three seventy as a
guy who almost hit five hundred home run And when
he came into the league. We were talking about he
came in. He goes, Sean I could fly because he
(08:04):
was a wide receiver in high school. So he got there. Yeah,
when he got there, he said, Bobby Cox. But he
said what it was? Was it Bobby was this? Yeah,
he said, you're not gonna play much at first, but
you're gonna well get you're gonna play every day, meaning
whether it's pinch running the seventh year and he came in.
His first time was running the bases and his first
hit bat was a swinging bunt. That was his first hit,
(08:26):
I said, as a Hall of Famer ever, his first
hit of his career was a swinging But when we
were talking about small ball stuff, but he gets it,
he said that, you know, put the ball in play
with the runners.
Speaker 4 (08:37):
He gives you a chance and this team's just not
doing it.
Speaker 7 (08:40):
And I said, it's OK. People should go listen to
it on you know, if you get a chance to.
But he just is the I gained perspective listening to
a guy like that talk baseball right. As much as
I love it, he's lived it for nineteen years of
it as a major league player and just diving into that.
Speaker 4 (08:57):
So listen. We can love the Astros, but if you're
critiquing them properly, I'll be honest.
Speaker 7 (09:02):
And I know Dana loves this team data round and
we know he does hand and he's very very Now
you may not like his answers because he has to
be the general manager, but if you sift through and
listen to what he says, while Dana believes in it
because he's helped put it together, the truth of matters.
I don't think deep down, just from my gathering the
conversation that I think he knows that there's gonna have
(09:28):
to be a few out of body experiences, This is
my opinion, a few out of body experiences with hitting
for them to be where they want to go. Your
non or not, dude, They're going to have to. But
this is not a good hitting team. They're a very
average at best hitting team. And the truth matters this
late in the season, it's not, well, you know what,
we still got time and they may get hot, and
if they do great, that still won't mean the other
one hundred and thirty games they were up and down
(09:50):
an average. They can go hot. Can they stay hot? See,
that's my problem. I don't think they're this season. They're
adept enough at staying hot for thirty games and went
into the playoffs and rolling through the playoffs. Good pitching,
the way this team swings the bat right now, good
pitching is going to beat them. It's going to beat them.
Good pitching for the Astros. You say, well, it's gonna
(10:12):
beat everybody. Well, unless, of course, Hunter Brown faces Scooble
and the other guy pitching is even gives you a
little bit better performance. You can win one a notoh
and know if they got good pitching too, you're in trouble.
This team is not going to win the World Series
because of their bats.
Speaker 6 (10:26):
If they do, we will all be shocked. I don't
need to hear still Dre anymore. I mean, because I
heard that song enough in this Detroit series. They're they're
too easy of a team to pitch to right now.
Oh my gosh, it's it's very The book is wide
open on how to get these guys out. You have
a sleep, you have a slider, you have a sweeper,
throw it away and if you do that, they're going
(10:47):
to they're gonna offer at it. They're gonna swing and miss,
or they're gonna hit a weak tap at to third base.
It's not going to be anything of meaningful contact, but
still good at bats, some hard contact like that?
Speaker 4 (10:59):
Is that really the standard?
Speaker 1 (11:00):
Now?
Speaker 4 (11:01):
Like we're gonna come.
Speaker 6 (11:02):
Out of these things and say things like that after
you just got frankly your.
Speaker 7 (11:06):
Ass kicked, you know what, you know what, it's sat
down with the truth of the matters. It may very
well be this year. I hate to say, it just.
Speaker 6 (11:13):
Got beat eighteen to two after you just got beat
the way you did by the Baltimore Oriials.
Speaker 7 (11:17):
It may very well be when you say, oh, is
that where we are now? That just hitting the ball
hard is our expectation is a little league. But unfortunately
hitting the ball hard right now when they do may
very well be.
Speaker 4 (11:31):
You mean what they're capable of. You mean Christian Walker
getting the middle end fastball and then being late on
it for a line out. To write, well, yeah, that's
hard to clear, right.
Speaker 7 (11:40):
I think we've we got Christian Walker's best baseball may
be behind him, So listen optimistic. But when all the
good when we're saying, look at it, and it's still
amazing that they're in first place, all the credit in
the world for what they've overcome. It is amazing that
they're in first place with all the injuries.
Speaker 4 (11:55):
It really is.
Speaker 7 (11:56):
But you still can't take away once again, the guys
are getting paid. You can only we can only view
and judge the people that are on the field, and
the ones that are on the field are a very
average team.
Speaker 4 (12:05):
This is they just are. They'll play good deal.
Speaker 7 (12:08):
I'm talking about that to play this is right now,
and quite frankly, you can start to see. Let's not
just say the hitting fromber Valdez in the last four
or five starts has been just a guy. He's been
just a guy walking people.
Speaker 8 (12:20):
You know.
Speaker 7 (12:20):
I know there's some luck that gets into it. But
the truth of the matter is Fromber taking the matter.
We know what he's capable of, but I also know
what other guys are capable of that are underachieving Fromber.
Speaker 4 (12:32):
This team right now is if.
Speaker 7 (12:35):
They were four games out, they wouldn't make the playoffs.
They're fortunate they're getting you know what I'm saying, there's
that that's where they are because I'm not sure they
can get on the run. That just most people down
right now now when you're on one gets back. They may
and they're all capable. Yes, the production doesn't match the
capabilities right now, period. And if you can't, if that
hurts your feelings, then you're just gonna have to get
(12:56):
over it. Because this is a very average hitting baseball team. No, Sean,
look at the towel krip. I didn't say they were
an average talent. I said they were average hitting baseball team.
And that's exactly what they are. I even think that's
being Niceah well, I'm trying to be a little bit,
a little bit. I'd like a little bit of water
in the glass, just a little to know that we
got a chance. And I understand the whole world may
(13:19):
change when Yourdan's back in the lineup, the man alive.
Is that a big burden to put on one cat
who's been out? What if he all of a sudden
takes three or four weeks to get rolling?
Speaker 4 (13:29):
Now, don't we.
Speaker 7 (13:30):
Always talk about build up and let the guy get
hot and see it again and no offense. But corpus
Christy a major league baseball pitching Nope, So we'll go
find out real quick. And then how often is he
gonna play? Is it once every two or three days?
Once a day? Can he handle every day? Listen, you're
hanging on by a thread the way you swing the bat.
(13:52):
And in true sometimes fumes can get you to the destination.
But when you get there and you poop, poop, poop,
and you put her out and get gas, by the
time the tanks fill up again, the season's over.
Speaker 4 (14:01):
That's where we're at. That's the way it's feeling right now.
Speaker 6 (14:04):
You want to join us seOne three, two on two, five, seven,
ninety against someone three two one two five seven ninety.
Speaking of the bats and the optimism about it, well,
I think there are a couple of numbers that definitely
would go against said optimism. And we'll talk about it
here as we're just getting going on a Thursday edition
Sean Salisbury Show, Sports Talks seven ninety.
Speaker 5 (14:28):
Let's go.
Speaker 2 (14:29):
This is the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 6 (14:32):
Sebon one three two one two five seven ninety gets
some of y'all here in just a second. But we
had Dana Brown on yesterday, and I think you got
to start off with the pleasantries about Dana because I
understand people's reaction and their skepticism whenever you know he
comes on with us, of it's always, oh we're in
the grind. Oh it's grit, it's all of these things.
(14:53):
It's make no mistake about it. Everything we all know
the Dana Brown being go guard. You also have to
give him credit twofold for not only one visit with us,
but also just his overall body of work. That's if
he says some things like that, don't just take it
with a grain of salt. Remember a couple of years ago, Sean,
I remember to visit you had and I remember it
(15:16):
very well because it was my first game back here
in Houston. I was at and they were funny enough,
playing the Orioles that day afternoon game, and you had
Dana on and you asked him how confident he was
about this team, and he said, this team's winning the West,
so I and he didn't stutter any of those things.
He said, this team is going to win the American
League West, and sure enough they paid off on it.
(15:37):
They did so a lot of times, his optimism it
is coming from an educated point of view, where he's like, hey,
I built this team. I know how this is supposed
to look. Yeah, this team is still good.
Speaker 4 (15:49):
Dan, isn't it.
Speaker 7 (15:51):
Listen, this is not old because he comes on because
I'll tell you yesterday and I knew going in and
I don't mean this like for us as a pat
on the back, but there was no way and they
do it every week, but yesterday was a little more
difficult because the way I'm sure for him, not for
me because I want the and for us, but because
of the way they've been playing right from trade deadline,
(16:11):
the way they've been playing. It's true, they it's just
and you know, he knew he was going to get
peppered yesterday. And you know, the grit, the grit, the
grit and final When when is a grit less important
than than production?
Speaker 4 (16:25):
When does it pay off?
Speaker 8 (16:26):
Right?
Speaker 4 (16:27):
Listen, here's what I say to you, right, here's what.
Speaker 7 (16:30):
Here's what Just to the folks listening, and you go
on Twitter and see all the com Oh, they start
repeating what his Everybody has their crutch go tos.
Speaker 4 (16:37):
You know, he's a grit guy, He's resilient. It's a
make no mistake. All those things. Was Bill O'Brien's tough, tough,
smart and dependable.
Speaker 7 (16:44):
Yeah, it's just everybody has their coach speak and generally
they just do that they lean on and that's okay.
Speaker 4 (16:50):
It was DTS, dependable, tough, and smart, digress.
Speaker 7 (16:53):
So what was what is he supposed to say? He
can't say, Sean, you know what, we got grit. But
you're right now. I think more of us would like
say we got grit? What did you want to say?
You know what, our team sucks and there's a really
good chance we're not gonna win.
Speaker 4 (17:08):
It seems easy if you're god.
Speaker 7 (17:14):
If Jordone doesn't play well well on a second if
Jordan doesn't play well, then we've got no chance to win.
He's not gonna say that. He's the general manager who's
helped put this team together. He sees it every day.
So of course it's like if somebody come on here
and we're hey, you guys think you're a good show. No,
we were not very good. Hopefully we'll get better. But man,
when when Triple E's off vacation will be a lot better?
(17:34):
You know which we may be, and we will be.
But my point is is that what's listen. You may
not like the phrases he uses for his interview, but
one thing I respect more than you can ever imagine.
I have yet the only time he has ever said
something when he gets into that's the lineup, that's a
Joe a Spota, Or if it's something about umpiring that
(17:56):
I've asked, he goes o'shean knows the umpires. I can't
get into that stuff right, and for obvious reasons, because
the watch is wallet, You're damn right. So when it
comes to that, it's like, Okay, I get it, but
if you just see the forest through the trees and listen,
you'll you'll get it.
Speaker 4 (18:11):
Listen he knows.
Speaker 7 (18:13):
He can't say Christian Walker has been a has been
a disaster or at least not not living up to it.
But he understands that. But he doesn't back away from
at least like yesterday, you could tell he knew he
was gonna get. He was prepared to get to have
to answer some stuff that would Can you imagine by
going say, man, your team's great, yeah, Sean the grid
(18:34):
all that, and we didn't. But when you pepper him
and then back it up with it, well, do you
do you really think this is this team? What tells
you this team can hit? And he has to go
in there and eat? And so I give him credit
if you're just listening or see when your quotes after
I'm interviewed him, people like, oh, it's the same old thing.
But if you just listen he said, yeah, what is he?
How is he supposed to approach it? Would you feel
(18:55):
more comfortable as a fan? I see, I deep down
think that Dana Brown believes his team is going to
catch fire. Now I think he knows that he's not.
He's been in baseball a long time, what three four decades?
Dana Brown knows his team's not living up to the expectations.
He knows that, but he's still got to keep.
Speaker 4 (19:13):
The optimism that it the that there's this thing, the
hint of it's going to turn around. Koreyas here, of course,
But I do give him credit for he's done.
Speaker 7 (19:21):
Some judge him by the personnel decisions and that don't
judge him by his grit talk, because I'll find my
I'll sift through the grit talk. I get it because
I'm a I know what grit means. Grit's great, but
the grind, right, But if the grind gets you seventh place,
then guess what.
Speaker 4 (19:39):
Great? But the grind didn't do a hill of bean.
So he gets that and I do too.
Speaker 7 (19:43):
But we all have stuff we lean on, and I'm
listening to the other things when I interview him, is okay,
And I gathered The main thing I gathered from it
yesterday is a lot of injuries have set him back
and that they are counting one hundred percent that Jordan
Alvarez is going to turn the lineup upside down and
turn pitching upside it.
Speaker 4 (20:03):
Now.
Speaker 7 (20:03):
Whether that's going to happen or not is another hole,
another hole issue. Thing we'll deal with next week. If
he's if he's in a lineup. But while you may
not like the answers, we can all see it doesn't
take a baseball genius to know that this team couldn't
fall in, couldn't hit the ocean if they were sitting
in a boat three miles out in the deep water.
Speaker 4 (20:23):
That's where they are right now.
Speaker 6 (20:25):
You struck out thirty three times in this Detroit Tigers series.
You heard that Doctor Dre song playing over their loud
speakers thirty three times.
Speaker 4 (20:32):
Here's where that becomes a problem.
Speaker 9 (20:33):
Dan.
Speaker 7 (20:34):
Teams that hit home runs on at a rapid pace,
which they don't, are we cut them a little slack
for striking out more teams that don't hit the ball
out of the ballpark and their strike Because the Astros
have a history during this run over the last decade,
they don't strike out a lot.
Speaker 4 (20:51):
They're middle to lower of the pack in Major League
Baseball this year for home runs.
Speaker 7 (20:55):
Now, Jordon may change the power cog, but you know
what by how much? That's what That's why I'm saying,
will everybody else? So it's just now if everybody else
is giving me the oh, I confess Jordon's coming. So
I'm gonna hit better, then that's a loser's lament.
Speaker 4 (21:09):
It just is so.
Speaker 7 (21:10):
But listen, I like Dana, you know in exchange after
going he believes in his team, and no doubt because
you listened before he called in at nine point thirty yesterday.
Don't tell me he's nothing. I know it's going to
be and it's always respectful. But he could have simply said, Sean, no, no, no,
you're you're seeing this all wrong. And if he would
(21:32):
have said, okay, then tell me what I'm missing and
it's okay. It's okay to have, it's okay for him
to he should believe in his hell, we'd be host now.
We probably say now, that's the answer I want. If
he said, eh, Sean, we sock right now. You can't
be in baseball this long and not see their problem.
They are counting. Simply if you listen to that interview yesterday,
(21:54):
if you didn't go back and listen and listen to that,
not the grit and the grind, which is part of it.
GrITT and grind's great when you're went. Fans love to
hear that grit and grind it in your favorite when
you can't hit your way out of a wet paper
bag with a wet paper towel holding the wet paper bag.
Speaker 4 (22:08):
So that's exactly right. So he right, he is a.
Speaker 7 (22:15):
You may not like how the verbiage is stacked, but
he believes his team's gonna do this and so but
I'd prefer that as opposed to but you're look a spot.
It gives you the same stuff. He's a good man,
good joke, but he's gonna give you to say, hey,
we're having good at bats. Yeah, good at bats, but
what oh, straighten it out because one of your best
hips was a long fly of foul ball. So yes,
(22:38):
we get it. Those things don't bother me as much
others because I'm not gonna let that fit yesterday. It
had been a butter if I said, oh, you're not
hitting well, yeah, but we got grinding grit and he
just left it hanging there like you got to pepper
hum and make sure that he comes back and gives
us why grinding grit is gonna end up paying off
for them. They are resilient, but and they're still in
first place, which is all a high five for them,
(22:59):
it is, but you know what, none of us are
going to care about the grinding grit. When the season's over,
if they continue hit like, we're gonna simply say they
underachieved at the plate. And he I assure you, if
this continues, there go to work next year. And there
are certain guys on this team, and I don't need
to mention their names, that their job or their deal,
they're going to be in trouble. They just are money
or not Fromber's taking money out of his pocket even
(23:21):
though he's a premium left and he's still gonna get paid,
but he is, he is putting himself. And then yet
Hunter Brown could use a little help. You can't throw
up one run, no runs, two runs, three runs in
this As you start to get closer to good pitching
in the playoffs where every guy's good, you're your you'll,
you have no chance right now this team. I don't
get your World Series tickets out of town just yet,
(23:42):
because until they start to hit, it won't matter how
good they pitch. And yet the pitching, the bullpens taxed
and tired. The starting pitching has not been as good
as it was early, and hitting has been inconsistent. All
your flashes of brilliance and flashes of ass that's what
it's been, okay, And Dana knows that I loved I do.
Like I said, we can see you know grime, he
(24:03):
gets it. But Dan is a baseball guy. He's not
a broadcaster. He's a baseball guy. He may not even
be a wordsmith. But he's a smart guy who sees.
But he's got to believe in his team. Yet you'll
know how much they believe in certain guys as we
head down to stretch and find out who's hit and
wear and who's playing more.
Speaker 4 (24:20):
I think disdain Dan was bubbling up right there.
Speaker 6 (24:22):
But your description that you painted so eloquently right there,
flashes of brilliance and the other thing that definitely called
it a little bit Jason see right there. We'll get
you involved in the conversation also to continue the Astros
hitters discussion, because well it was not a tom Emanski
level display yesterday of such. And Joe Spata, I mean,
(24:45):
does he have another thing too that maybe he's going
to bring disdain Dan back out.
Speaker 4 (24:50):
I don't know. We'll have to listen to it and
just find out. As we're getting going here. On a
Thursday edition at Sean Salisbury Show Sports Talk seven to ninety.
Speaker 7 (24:57):
Hey, let's talk sort of pro painters. I'm getting my
house painted a different color. I've done some interior exterior
already for right away with curt of pro painters. And
as a customer first, I can set up here and
tell you, unlike those who don't use it and they
are just saying I'm here for the money grab, I'm
gonna talk about a company I don't use. I use them,
and I use in the right way. I put them
(25:19):
to work and they do a phenomenal job. Sirtopro dot
com for your free estimate. It's expensive to own a
home or a business, it really is, so why not
protect it with quality painting and the quality people. They're local,
they're timely, they interior exterior, home or business. All those
things enhance it. It's summertime, you're gonna get to the fall.
Maybe you just decide, you know what, we're changing our
(25:40):
couch and we're changing the stuff around it. I'd like
a different paint job and it'll be in and out
in today gone, and it'll be done. And you're like, man,
that was easy, and it was right. The price was right,
the timing was right, and they did it as if
it was their own home. That is who sort of
pro painters is sirtopro dot com. Each and every sort
of pro business is individually and operated.
Speaker 4 (26:00):
Well, there's a commitment to you.
Speaker 7 (26:02):
And as a customer, first, I can tell you there's
nobody I'll use other than curt of Pro. Even as
a DIY guy who likes and gets into that. I know, damn,
while I'm not doing the job they're doing, go to
certapro dot com sort of with the C.
Speaker 4 (26:16):
You know who they are.
Speaker 7 (26:16):
You're gonna get great customer service and when they're done,
you're gonna look at your house say damn, this is right.
And there's the only one I'm using. And just so
Dale knows and the people at sert of Pro, I'm
coming for you because guess what, my house needs a
touch up and it's only one person gonna do it.
That's sort of pro painters shirt with the C sertapro
dot com for that free estimate sort of pro painters.
(26:37):
That's painting Happy.
Speaker 2 (26:40):
For the Shawn Salisbury show continues.
Speaker 4 (26:44):
Jason wants to weigh in. Jason, good morning, Hi y'all
doing this sport Ella's good man.
Speaker 10 (26:52):
You know, we keep watching and we keep hoping something
good's gonna happen. And I mean they finally ended the
scoreless drought for the thirty one innings, which I mean,
it's a good start moving in the right direction, you know,
And it's can't really blaming on the pitch, and it's
(27:14):
you know, we can't hit the ball, and you know,
wanting nord On to come back in and do some things. Well,
I mean, what's he gonna do if they can't get
on base. So it's a lot of things to think about.
And I mean, it's really not fair to put it
on one guy, but that one guy happens to be
(27:34):
the best hopeful thing we have.
Speaker 4 (27:37):
So but.
Speaker 10 (27:39):
You know, I'm sitting there. I watched the replay last
night at work because I sleep during the day, so
I wasn't able to watch the game, but I'm watching
the replay, which people ask me, well, why are you
watching replay? Well, I just want to watch the ball game.
And the whole time I'm watching the game, they got
the radio going on in the background, and Darius Rutgers
I've got nothing playing, which kind of it's kind of
(28:00):
a lappable thing.
Speaker 4 (28:01):
But we got to.
Speaker 10 (28:04):
Get it together because, like you said, we go into
the postseason and we're not hitting the ball, and we're
not doing what we're supposed to do. I mean, winning
is obviously not going to be the option. But you know,
the bright side is, you know, a lot of guys
last year or a couple of postseasons were in a
(28:25):
hitless drought. So kind of thinking to myself, you know, well,
maybe it's good they're not hitting the ball right now.
If it's come postseason, the drought might end. So it's
pretty the only optimistic thing I can say right now.
Speaker 4 (28:36):
Fellas appreciate the call, Jason.
Speaker 6 (28:39):
I mean, it's also though, outside of really just a
handful of guys in this lineup, like Christian Walker.
Speaker 4 (28:46):
Do you trust Christian Walker right now?
Speaker 6 (28:48):
You've trusted them in spurts, He's been able to give
you some good things, but as a consistency across the board,
what you saw in the fourth inning yesterday with a
couple of guys on and one out, that's what you've
seen out of him for most of the season. It's
gotten to the point now where I see that I
don't count on Christian Walker coming through right there, and
sure enough he did not live up to the moment
(29:09):
and then Jesus Sanchez, I mean that guy needs to
find a Ran McNally, a GPS anything right now. I
mean break out the voodoo bones. You know that what's
the guy had in Bull Durham in order to be
able to try to get him going, Because Sean, how
(29:29):
many times have you ever seen somebody swing and miss
at a pitch and it hit them.
Speaker 4 (29:34):
That happened yesterday to him.
Speaker 7 (29:35):
The only time you swing and miss of the pitch
is if it's high and tight to you, and it's
so high and tight that you've got to if you're
a right hander, boom that left shoulder goes to the
to the between third base of the dugout where you're
flying out because it's in you're trying to get out
and turn away because it's you're late to it and
the bad I mean, I'm not saying that situation, but
(29:57):
the only time you would is we try to get
out of the way and the bat goes through the
strikes and know whether they call it a track or not,
but a ball that is about to hit you and
you swing through it as a regular swing doesn't happen verout.
It gets to the point where you're I think they're
guessing a lot at the play. He looks overwhelmed. Yes,
and that's and what do you do when you're overwhelmed?
You start guessing. It's not anticipation, it's guessing. And there
is a difference.
Speaker 6 (30:17):
Him and Christian Walker both, I mean, the check swings
from Walker. It's just like, dude, like, how do you
keep going through this? Like that's that's what I can't understand.
It's kind of like the yiner one handed swing, like like, how.
Speaker 4 (30:30):
Like soon enough?
Speaker 6 (30:31):
Don't you look at film and say, man, you know what,
I've got to be better at pitch recognition, all right?
This guy does this key off of that any of
those things, I get it. It's easier said than done,
and you've got to try to fight that, especially people
in my position here where I'm not in the box.
I don't swing a bat, but I mean, you just
see these things and you're kind of like almost like
(30:51):
an offensive lineman that keeps jumping off sides. Why do
you keep jumping off sides? You know the count, you
know when we're going, you've got the advantage here, Why
do you keep doing it?
Speaker 7 (31:01):
Whether it's lack of focus, I think when people are
going and you start to used to just in my life,
I'm sure you feel the same way. At the quarterback position.
There's a time when it comes when you're struggling. We've
all been there, doesn't matter what level, and all of
a sudden you go into a game and it feels
and I've had this happen, Dan, where you're like, where
(31:22):
are these fifteen players coming from? Sean, there's only eleven?
You know those ones where you're like, what in the
world you're seeing?
Speaker 4 (31:30):
Very good? You're seeing ghost.
Speaker 7 (31:31):
Yeah, it's like, yes, you're chasing a ghost and you're
and you're borrowing trouble like toe, Sean, they only got eleven,
Well damn it sure looks like they got seven alignment
and four linebackers and seven dbs. No, they actually don't
get back into the basics of doing what got you here? Yes,
they only got eleven, But you which happens is okay,
I'm not doing this right now. What you do is
you rob Peter to pay Paul. And unfortunately, when you
(31:52):
rob Peter, Paul's already gone and you're late in your thoughts.
So you start to get As a quarterback, guessing was
a bad thing, and there's no difference As a hitter,
there is no difference because if you're guessing, oh man,
you know what, I think it's oh two, he's throwing
me a cutter, he's throwing me a hook. You know
he's gonna throw me as the a slider, and then
he pumps ninety eight upstairs.
Speaker 4 (32:14):
You hitting it? You got no chance, right so, and
they know this.
Speaker 7 (32:18):
But you just from the squeeze of the bat to
the to the head do you can't do?
Speaker 4 (32:24):
There's no discernment. Oh man, here's what's coming.
Speaker 7 (32:27):
And so you start to say, well, I've tried everything else,
I'm gonna start guessing, like, hey, what's you do the
last time? To oh and two? And those guys then
they got you exactly where they want you. And I
feel like a lot of the plate appearances are and
I think part of the part time when you see
impatience and not extending at bats, why is because I
don't think they're confident enough right now to be down one,
two oh two and believe they can hit. I think
(32:49):
you see a lot of guys trying to get up
on it and jump on.
Speaker 4 (32:52):
It early in the count.
Speaker 7 (32:52):
Why because you start to say if it gets to one, two,
O two right now, I got no clue I get
and then you start guessing and guessing at oh two,
guess what.
Speaker 4 (33:01):
Brother. You may run into one once in a while,
but most of the time you got no shot. Yeah,
most of the time. The dealer's got a face card
with a rocket, so you can't you can't pay.
Speaker 7 (33:11):
You got twenty the dealer's showing, or then the dealer's
showing seventeen or whatever it is. You don't hit twenty,
regardless of what it is. And if you hit twenty,
that's called desperation, and pat that's called idiocy. Right, So
if you're chasing balls a foot and a half out
of the strikes on what and leaving the table, that's
exactly right. But you've seen it. Tell me you haven't
(33:31):
been sitting at a table where guy thinks, oh, there's
a two back there you start guessing, oh, there's a two.
Speaker 4 (33:35):
I'm sitting in nineteen.
Speaker 11 (33:36):
Now.
Speaker 6 (33:36):
It's not to say that I haven't made some some
dumb plays too.
Speaker 7 (33:39):
Who hasn't, Right, That's the point here, We all do it.
We just get to see theirs and it looks to
me like a team. That's that it's swinging the bat
desperately and doing a lot of maybe I'm wrong. If
they're not guessing and they're not doing it desperate, then
they're just not very good.
Speaker 6 (33:55):
Yeah, it's a lot of pressing right now, and unfortunately
the pressing is not leading to a result. Scott, see
you right there? You want to join Scott seven one
three two one two five seven ninety. Again it's seven
one three two on two five seven ninety continuing here
on the Sean Salisbury Show Sports Talk seven ninety. But
you know what, Sean, all this angst and frustration with
the baseball team here in town, Well, soon enough, I'm
(34:17):
gonna get hungry, and soon enough, I'm gonna want to
eat my feelings. And when I do want to eat
my feelings, I want to have a full meal when
it's all said and done.
Speaker 4 (34:26):
And uh oh, do I know a place? I mean,
do I know a place?
Speaker 8 (34:30):
Ye?
Speaker 4 (34:31):
Jbar and barbecue. Brother.
Speaker 7 (34:33):
This is one of those you know how when you
have you what do you do when you're frustrated? Well,
I go and take a walk, or I listen to music.
I've got a great idea for you. Take a walk,
take a driver right over there, to jabar and Barbecue.
If you live by it, walk there, if not, drive there,
because sometimes a good a good meal with the best barbecue.
If you like barbecue, and who in Texas doesn't, And
let me let me shift this a little bit. If
(34:54):
you don't like barbecue, go into jbar and Barbecue. I'll
guarantee you you like barbecue, great food, great customer service.
For more point, it's just I'm a big venue guy.
I like the atmosphere and the vibe when you walk in.
Then when it smells that good and tastes that good,
I just like I said, I test things when I
get something. If you like someone, say okay, let me
let me test three or four more. I want to
(35:15):
know if my comparative what I'm thinking is right. And
then when it buries the competition, and that's not what
they're They're able to just do what's right by you
as a customer. But in the process I think they
bury the competition because I think they're second to none,
and I love jbar and Barbecue. You don't need reservations.
You pop on in there. It's Jbarren Barbecue dot com.
If you want to go and look at the menu
and the rest of it. But I couldn't be more happy,
(35:36):
not only that we're working with them, but they were partners,
but also that anytime I go in there, I never
come out disappointed.
Speaker 6 (35:42):
Well, I mean, the tone is set by mister Toomey
and then his lieutenant's Hoffe, and you got a rush
back there in the pit room. Everybody is making the
experience fantastic. And like we've said before, you got that
huge parking lot outside, you come inside, you already start
to build up the anticipation with the smells of the brisket,
the holopa and your cheddar sausage. You got those sides
right there too. How about a brisket burger? What about
(36:04):
some pretzel bites with some good caso with it? All
of those things available to you at Jbarm Barbecue twenty
two oh one Leland Street. And also too, you're saying
to yourself, it's Thursday, maybe happy hour on a Thursday,
full service bar right there, awesome beer garden outside to be.
Speaker 7 (36:20):
Banging when the fall comes in. Just it already is,
but it's gonna be even more so. I'm just thinking
late September of football Saturday or a football Sunday.
Speaker 4 (36:28):
Yeah, They're awesome, man.
Speaker 6 (36:30):
Absolutely, absolutely, especially if you go and watch the team
over in the third ward. Stop by jbar M Barbecue
again twenty two one one Leland Street, twenty two oh
one Leland Street right there, and itto it's J.
Speaker 4 (36:40):
Bar M Barbecue.
Speaker 2 (36:43):
Moore, Sean Salzburg, get in, strap in and write.
Speaker 6 (36:47):
In back out to the phone line, Scott this morning,
Good morning, Scott.
Speaker 4 (36:55):
Hey, how's it going? Dang good.
Speaker 12 (37:00):
Don't know if y'all talk about this already, but that's
for the astros.
Speaker 13 (37:03):
It is what it is.
Speaker 8 (37:05):
We don't know.
Speaker 12 (37:05):
Like I said, they're dead, so we don't know what
they're doing. Well, one thing I saw on ESPN Houston
that idea is it's just I don't know if he
can handle I agree with him. I don't know if they
can if he can handle all pitches, you know, the
wild pitches. I mean, I get Rambert was just tall.
(37:29):
But the one of the biggest things that I just
don't understand is we have some of these young players
like Blueball that came in and pitched and he just
to me, he felt he looked more hungry than some
of these other guys. And some of these guys want
to pitch better and play better. Give him a chance.
Speaker 6 (37:51):
Yeah, I mean, it's definitely Scott in your background. I
got to cut you loose man, Sorry, but it's definitely.
Speaker 7 (37:58):
A little muffled for me to hear. So he's talking
about the young players, wants more like a blue ball. Yeah,
wants more of those guys, which I mean. And I
heard a similar call the other day on the tenth
Inning Show with Gordy, and Gordy's point was exactly right.
Speaker 4 (38:13):
Who down in the minor leagues like blue ball?
Speaker 6 (38:16):
Yeah, he had one really good game against the Marlins,
but you also have to remember the last time you
face the Tigers, it didn't go well.
Speaker 4 (38:22):
Now was his major league debut. I get it.
Speaker 6 (38:24):
He's trying to find himself with Jiner. There's no question
that Yiner's behind the plate for his offense, not because
of his defense. And the problem is his offense hasn't
been good enough to be able to stomach some of
the defensive issues he gives you And yeah, Sean, some
of those wild pitches yesterday I saw.
Speaker 4 (38:39):
It's kind of like I.
Speaker 6 (38:40):
Think we played the audio or maybe just I played
it to you of John Smoltz talking about Alvarez for
the Mets, where he's doing the one leg down thing
and not able to get in front of the ball,
and he's like, look, I don't mean to pick at this,
but there's got to be you know, an art to
blocking the baseball here instead of just you know, focusing
on frame and trying to be able to get the
(39:02):
perfect strike and kind of you know, deceive the umpire
to you know, expand the zone for you a little bit.
But I mean, I just don't only I just don't
know if most of that is in the yiner's bag defensively,
because again he's not in there for his defense.
Speaker 4 (39:17):
And here's the issue.
Speaker 7 (39:17):
Though with that too, I mean, along with that Dan
is that he's not I wouldn't He's not Molina behind
the plate.
Speaker 4 (39:26):
Is that fair? Okay? I've tried to be kind. Is
that fair?
Speaker 7 (39:30):
He's young, but he's still got He is not right
or any of the Molina brothers. And the reason he's
here is to learn and get better as a defender.
But that bat in the middle of lineup, right, and
if the bat in the middle of the lineup not
dominate and you're not pud Rodriguez behind the plate because
if you're not hitting, you know, if you can hit
(39:51):
and catch the same time, give me Johnny bencherbuster posey,
Life's great.
Speaker 4 (39:54):
It's like Adam Everett.
Speaker 6 (39:55):
When Adam Everett was here, it was if he made
an error, You're like, that can't happen.
Speaker 4 (39:58):
Man. Yeah, you don't hit for any things, so you
got to be able. Everything you do is got right.
Speaker 7 (40:02):
But if you're not doing either, great right now, and
then that's when the problem kicks in. We know the
potential once again, we hear that all the time, but
it's it's a moving year for him, and he hasn't
moved the direction with the bat in his hand that
you would have expected by now.
Speaker 4 (40:16):
Nowhere close.
Speaker 6 (40:17):
Well, we'll continue the conversation both about Astro's hitting but
also the pitching because fromber is he just this now?
Well we'll discuss what this is right here as we
start seven o'clock hour on a Thursday of Sports Talk
seven to ninety. But at this point it's kind of
is the statute of limitations run out for me to
(40:38):
think and welcome back Kobe Stevens Apparel. Well, hell I
just did it right there, Kobe Stevens Apparel. Kobe Stevens
dot com. I keep telling you about that summer line
because for a good reason, because we're still in the
throes of summer.
Speaker 4 (40:51):
Just step outside right now.
Speaker 6 (40:52):

weather is right around the corner. It feels like fall
weather is about as far away as Christmas right now.
So that's summer line still in play, and it's available
for you at Kobe Stephens dot com. Polos, t shirts, hats, shorts,
the ladies' options, the youth options, they're all available to

Speaker 1 (42:00):
Okay, let's do this.
Speaker 11 (42:04):
Sewn Salisbury USC troups longtime friend Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 2 (42:10):
Dan Matthews, Jesus, this is the Sewan Salisbury show.
Speaker 4 (42:19):
In Baltimore.
Speaker 6 (42:20):
After getting swept in the last three games by the
Tigers in Detroit, losing yesterday seven to two. Good news though,
j went on Alvarez going to play another game tonight
for the Corpus Christy Hooks. So play tonight, play tomorrow.
That's gonna be an interesting one, Sean. If he plays
well tonight and the swings still look good, do you
think if you're the Astros, you have to Hey, let's
(42:41):
let's let's have a let's have a conference call right here.
You know, do we do we put them on a
plane and bring them out here. Now, the Hooks play
last night?
Speaker 4 (42:48):
They well they did, but he didn't know. But did
they play? Yes?
Speaker 7 (42:51):
As far as I know, I personally would have. Well,
you heard me ask standing about yesterday. Are we wasting
at bats with him to see you saw two for four?
Why not let him get these bats up here? I mean,
if you're actually if it was, if it was going
to struggle and hurt again, if it was, I'd like
to have it here, you know, not there. I'd like
to see it up here and not get hurt.
Speaker 4 (43:12):
But just why not?
Speaker 7 (43:13):
But I get it, you know, well, he's you know,
he said, after you know all this time off, you know,
not going to rush it right now? My thing is,
why why not playing back to back days in Monday
and Tuesday or no, Tuesday Wednesday is what it would
have been?
Speaker 4 (43:29):
Yeah, Tuesday Wednesday.
Speaker 7 (43:30):
And don't you got to find out if he can
handle back to back days before you put him in
here and give him back to back days.
Speaker 6 (43:39):
I guess, man, I mean, I can understand the logic
behind you, Kate.
Speaker 7 (43:43):
Let me ask you this here. Listen, medical they know
better than I do. I'm from a distance. I just
I'm just from my vantage point. This is me And
whether you think, well, Sean, no, that's not the way
to do it. Great, that's the way I do it.
But I'm not there is at this stage after all this,
if he's upswinging a bat. He's still facing live pitching
(44:06):
in a game in Corpus Christy, yes or no?
Speaker 4 (44:09):
Is that a yes or no? Yes?
Speaker 7 (44:11):
Okay, So if somebody throws ninety two down there in
ninety four up here? My point is, are we still
worried after all this that he's not healthy enough to
handle back to back days.
Speaker 4 (44:23):
I mean, I'm with you, and hopefully I'm following you
on this.
Speaker 6 (44:26):
I I'm with you on what's the difference between getting
the at bats there as opposed to getting him here?
Speaker 4 (44:31):
Right?
Speaker 7 (44:32):
And here's the other thing, how will it And if
he comes up here and is playing once every three days?
Didn't I hear yesterday that when yourdn's in that line,
if we got to hit the ground run and everybody's
got to So if it's once every two days and
once every three days, because he's got to get rest
in between, so are we supposed to say, well.
Speaker 4 (44:46):
We're gonna have one good day one bad day.
Speaker 7 (44:48):
That's five hundred baseball the rest of the way if
you win them all when he's in I.
Speaker 4 (44:51):
Get it there, Like I said, they're around it.
Speaker 7 (44:53):
They've watched his his is as he's advanced through this injury.
I understand but my for me, Okay, how do I
know if he can handle back to back? Now? Maybe
they're going to get him back to back here, I
mean in Corpus Christy the next few days, within this week,
I would imagine maybe they will, or is the first
time they're going to test back to back?
Speaker 4 (45:13):
Is up here?
Speaker 7 (45:14):
My thing is that Dan, I hate to say it,
but at this stage of the rehab, I'm not am
I concerned still? I don't know what this answer. Am
I concerned still that he can't handle back to back?
Then if I'm concerned he can't handle back to back,
I should probably still then it's not we're not here soon, right,
But is one day of back to back going to
(45:36):
tell you he can handle back to back just because
it happened one time at double A baseball?
Speaker 6 (45:40):
I mean, I again, I'm not sure that it necessarily
matters down there where it is?
Speaker 4 (45:46):
Yeah? Right, I mean it's if you're doing it, then
at this stage of the game, don't you have a
time frame? Because I said, what ten days? He goes, Oh, well,
I think it could be sooner than ten days. So
I'm assuming that at some point, Man, maybe assuming is
the wrong thing that he's going to get a back
to back or there before he comes up here. Now,
when he comes up here, as Askedteve Sparks last week,
Steve expects it to not play every day, that you
know you'd like him too, but that there's going to
(46:08):
be spot where he's sitting.
Speaker 7 (46:12):
I'll ask you this. If he's healthy and you bring
him here, are you what are you telling me if
you bring him up to this major league team, Yeah,
he's playing, and that he's healthy and ready to go,
you would hope. Yeah, Well, if you bring it here
when you say you'd hope, I know that there's a chance.
But if I'm bringing if you're my quarterback and I
bring you back and your knee you suffered a knee
injury and now you're in the starting lineup in the
(46:33):
opening day on a Thursday night for opening football, are
you Dak Prescott? Is he healthy or not? Am I
running him out there at eighty percent? Or is he
healthy or not?
Speaker 8 (46:41):
Well?
Speaker 4 (46:41):
If he's on the field, just answer yes or no.
Speaker 7 (46:44):
You don't have to give me the just I'm asking
you a question if I run him, if I run
you out there as a quarterback at LSU, and I
and you're starting on Thursday.
Speaker 4 (46:52):
Are you healthy or not?
Speaker 7 (46:53):
In my assumption through all the pictures and all that, yes, simple, Okay.
So if he's at this stage of the game, are
we still worried that he's got to get healthy? Because
if he's got to get healthy, he's not going to
be ready here. I'm not a doctor, I don't know,
and after one hundred plus days, I don't I don't
have a friggin clue if he is or is it.
So the point is is that you don't have a
(47:15):
lot of time to bleed here. So if he's there
and I listen, he may come and they do it
perfect and in ten days he's raking great. I'm just
begging the question because I'm a why guy and I'm
looking for answers.
Speaker 4 (47:27):
That's it. So if you need him that bad Number
one is so if he doesn't come up in the
next three or four days or five days, are you
telling me that you're concerned that he's not healthy? What
if he has soreness after this game tonight? See, that's
the worry.
Speaker 6 (47:40):
I mean, it seems like it's it's always you're wondering
if it's around the way. I sure like him getting
treatment from my major league people as opposed to the
minor league.
Speaker 4 (47:47):
That's just me.
Speaker 6 (47:48):
Well, but it's also I mean, I think if he
has sorenessing in and you've got to stop him, then
this is over.
Speaker 4 (47:53):
Then you shut him down.
Speaker 7 (47:54):
Yeah, So that I just I'm a guy who probably
is looking for a eatle in a haystack.
Speaker 4 (48:01):
But if I don't, you know, I get here's all
the conflicts. Okay.
Speaker 7 (48:04):
I'm just looking for an answer, and the answer to
me is and I know they don't want to rush.
Speaker 4 (48:08):
Him, rush him, rush him. Dude, We're we're three plus
months in rush him. I was gonna say, a couple
of a week and a half. Your your four months? Okay,
I playing.
Speaker 7 (48:21):
Here's the simple If I if I'm a doctor or
am I'm a t and I'm damn well, I'm not.
If I've sent him from Florida to Corpus Christy, I'm
not sitting in there hoping he's I'm talking about on
the health side, he's healthy, correct, So you're not sending
in there at seventy five percent? Yes, okay, So now
the only thing I'm looking for is his threshold of
(48:43):
pain batspeed? What's he looked like in the batter's box.
How's he recover from it? What if he woke up
the next morning and said, I'm good to go, why
can't you plan him back to back days?
Speaker 4 (48:53):
I mean you would, you would hopefully be able to
trust him on that. And I think you should be
a whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa? What have they told
you all?
Speaker 7 (49:01):
What did Dana tell us on this show all the
time when he's ready, he'll play once all the image
when he's ready.
Speaker 4 (49:08):
So if he wakes it.
Speaker 7 (49:08):
Now, you're going to tell me you're not going to
trust him at double a baseball. But she did trust
him when he was seventy five percent. So if he's healthy,
you didn't bring him to Corpus Christy to hope he
was healthy after one hundred plus days or whatever it's been.
You brought him to Corpus Christy because he's healthy. Now
you just want to see the rhythm and the timing,
bat speed, and if he's leveling up and raking he
did in Game one. If he wakes up on Wednesday morning,
(49:32):
yesterday morning, he said I'm good to go, man, why
rest him? I mean, okay, we just want to say
we don't want we want to play it safe. Great, Okay.
If that's your answer, I'm saying, okay, cool, then I'll
ask you back. Is he healthy? Yeah, he's healthy. So
it's basically just a threshold of pain thing. Because even
(49:53):
if his bat speed wasn't but he was healthy, they're
bringing him up here, they just are.
Speaker 4 (49:59):
That's exactly right.
Speaker 7 (50:01):
Even said he goes at eighty percent or whatever, he's
better than most players.
Speaker 4 (50:05):
He also had guys up at that time. But I
do get your point, right, So I got and I
know I'm probably digging too deeple Sean. There's no right answer.
You're right, there isn't. But if I.
Speaker 7 (50:16):
Can't if I'm worried about us, are am I worried
still that he's unhealthier? Am I worried playing it back
to back? That'll that four more bats will make him
really tired?
Speaker 4 (50:25):
Yeah? Really, I hope not. I just listen. I don't
doctors or doctors. I listen.
Speaker 7 (50:31):
I go in and question the own doctor when he
was looking at my knee, because that's why I'm just looking.
Speaker 4 (50:35):
I can't. I'm not going to settle for Well, here's
how I'm just looking. France. Now you don't have to
give them to me.
Speaker 7 (50:41):
But I just I'm trying to look at the logic
of some of these things. I'm not putting him in
double A. If he's not healthy and if for if
for a bats and all of a sudden the flares
up and now now we got to have surgery, then
I think I probably would have known that with constant
live batting practice down in Florida. I don't know, and
(51:04):
maybe it will Sean, that's not the way doctors will
be okay and great. I trust, I trust, I trust
that they're taking the right amount of time because it's
been a minute at this stage of the game. If
it were judging from all this, my one thing would
have said, Okay, I got him a corpus christy, is
he healthy? Yep, Now we just got to see. Okay,
there's a bat speed there. If his bat speed, let's
just say he struck out four times but he had
(51:26):
no pain. Are you sending it back to Florida. No,
you're saying it was just a bad day. And what
if he strikes out four more times tonight? Are you
sending it back to Florida? If he says no, I'm healthy,
I'm just trying to get my timing. Okay, then we'll
keep you get my point right, I just and then
with the emphasis on when he gets here, Oh, everything's
(51:47):
gonna change. So we just loaded a franchise onto one
guy's back who's been out one hundred plus days. That's
not a good thought process in my mind for the
rest of the lineup.
Speaker 6 (51:57):
I just think you're setting yourself up for failure. You're
setting to be disappointed.
Speaker 7 (52:01):
It'd be it'd be wrong to run out Dak Prescott
after his injury, right, if you didn't think he was healthy.
It'd be wrong to run out Aaron Rodgers after his
I mean when Aaron Rodgers went out there, now you're
finding out. But we didn't get Triple A football to
see if Aaron rodgers achilles was recovered last year, would
we practice you see it?
Speaker 4 (52:21):
How you feeling? I feel good? All right? We're Steve
Berlin or Ryan Fitzpatrick. When you need him, there you go.
Speaker 7 (52:27):
So right, I don't know, and if it's count right,
if you're not, his legs should be awfully fresh and
a hitter that good, shouldn't It probably didn't take much
time to get his timing down. If it's just timing,
I guess is what I'm saying. I'd prefer it here.
I guess that's a whole lot if it's time here.
Can he handle two days in a row. The only
(52:48):
way I know if you can handle two days in
a row is if you play two days in a row.
Otherwise I'm just guessing. Well, he played once on Tuesday
and once on Thursday. It got two hits in each game.
He said, he's okay, let's go. If he tells me
that what am I waiting on? I'd rather have him
strike out four times here than down there? I would,
(53:08):
so the like, I don't know how you test it
unless you test it back to back days. So if
they play to day and tomorrow and you're waiting unether
you want him on the weekend trip or you want
to get him there by Sunday, or you want to
get him back here for a homestand don't I want
to play him tonight tomorrow? I thought, I don't know,
are they playing to imagine Friday, they're playing somewhere right, yeah,
Corpus Christy wherever, whatever, Thursday Friday, So whatever they're doing,
(53:29):
everybody plays on a Friday. So to me, if I
got to tell well, man, it was a little nervous.
He said, he's okay, you've got ice on. He's ready
to go. So why not playing back to back? Because
if I don't pla him back, when are you going
to play him back to back after one hundred plus
days or whatever it's been.
Speaker 4 (53:42):
So I don't know.
Speaker 7 (53:43):
Maybe it's too logical for me for others to understand,
but I'm just thinking, if you tell me Sean you're
ready to go, yeah, well, what's the imaging that got great?
Speaker 4 (53:51):
Well?
Speaker 7 (53:51):
Your time? How's your timing with the receivers? Well, I'm
getting it, but you know what, sometimes you just got
to learn your ass on the fly.
Speaker 4 (53:57):
Brother. We ain't got time and so I don't know, man,
I just I think about it different.
Speaker 7 (54:02):
And if we're putting the onus of this franchise for
this season on his back, which it sounds to me
like they are, then I wouldn't wait till fifteen games.
He'll be here in the next week. The question is
how good will he be?
Speaker 6 (54:17):
The latest is going to be Monday against the Rockiesyes,
so hopefully you get them back sooner than that, because, uh,
judging from this lineup, boy, you could sure even use,
as Dana has said, a less than one hundred percent.
Jordan Alvarez seven one, three, two and two five seven
ninety the number to get in stakeout time and something
we've talked about in the past, and somebody has some
(54:39):
logic and they have some knowledge of this, so it's
hard to argue with it.
Speaker 4 (54:43):
We'll talk about it right here. Sean Salisbury Show, Sports
Talk seven ninety, Men's T Clinic, Men's T Clinic dot com.
Speaker 7 (54:51):

Is Mama happy? Are you happy? How's the irritability when
you well, when you're not doing the things that you
want to be doing at home and you just don't
have the energy, or you feel a little soft and
don't get in the weight room. You're all the vitality
(55:12):
you're looking for, it's just not there. Maybe it was
in the past, maybe it wasn't in twenty twenty four,
maybe twenty twenty five. You made a resolution to get
to the gym, and you're like, I just don't feel
it well. If we know the conflict low testosterone, let's
go figure it out and get the answers to the test,
which would be draw a little blood, know the results

Speaker 14 (56:35):
Now back to Sean Salisbury.
Speaker 2 (56:41):
All right, Sean, what are you hearing out there now?
The Salsbury's takeout?
Speaker 11 (56:46):
Salsbury Takeout on the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 6 (57:16):
Sean Salisbury Shows Sports Sox seven ninety Stros moving on
to Baltimore after getting swept in Detroit by the Tigers,
losing the Es today seven to two.
Speaker 4 (57:25):
Jordan Alvarez gonna play tonight for the Corpus Christy Hooks
and the Texans in Detroit for joint practice this morning
with the Lions. They'll play each other final preseason game
on Saturday late night television. Sean, you know we already
got the news what a couple of weeks ago, Stephen
Colbert not going to be renewed. As a matter of fact,
(57:45):
the Late Show going away at CBS. And we've seen
that the numbers across the networks, they've been going down
over the years, and people obviously can share why they
believe that this is going this is happening. But Conan O'Brien,
guy that was part of Late Night.
Speaker 6 (58:02):
He was kind of always like a fringe late night guy, like,
you know, he was one of the backups on NBC
and then you know, TBS decided to throw some money
at him, so he goes over there, and you know,
he had a he had a cult following around.
Speaker 4 (58:15):
Him, and I get it. He was clever and I
mean just doing stuff a little bit different.
Speaker 6 (58:20):
He was almost kind of like Letterman, you know how
like Letterman would do things that you're like, all right, hey,
you know, Carson did some things.
Speaker 7 (58:25):
That were a little bit off the wall, but they
didn't just every single time some influencer that likes politics
wasn't the guest every night. Those guys had good guests.
They just kind of left it out make fun of politicians.
It's always fun of your monologue to make fun of politicians, right,
but it can't be the Jimmy Kimmel approach where you
start crying if somebody didn't wear a mask four thousand
miles from you.
Speaker 4 (58:45):
Oh, it's got to be. It's crazy.
Speaker 7 (58:47):
And unfortunately for Colbert, I don't like see aybody who
lose their job.
Speaker 4 (58:50):
The guy suck.
Speaker 7 (58:50):
When it came to it was just it was all
politics hatred towards that talented guy. But when it comes
to that, I thought his show was unwatchable.
Speaker 6 (58:59):
Well, it's the crux of all of it, is I mean,
of all of those shows, are any of them necessarily entertaining?
Speaker 4 (59:06):
Like Fallon, you know, he'll do something. I think Foun's
extremely talented.
Speaker 6 (59:10):
He probably of the three that I would watch, he's
the one that I say he's the only one, yeah right,
that you'd watch but alone.
Speaker 4 (59:18):
But he just he comes across such a try hard.
Speaker 7 (59:20):
And he's kind of a he's got a little childish
sense of human but I can tell you this, he's
tried hard not to lean one way or the other.
And I think, you know, why, why would you you're
doing late night television, you just want everybody to watch it.
Yeah he is, Yes he is, But he's good singer,
good you know. I actually think he's a fun not
He seems like just a fun I don't feel like
there's anything mean about him. Sure, you know, there's sometimes
(59:42):
late night either side Republican or you know, Denberg. I
don't care who is conservative or liberty doesn't matter. There's
both sides that have something. There's just mean spirited, even
though they do it while they're laughing. Yeah, I don't
think they think it's funny. Yeah right, I don't think
any of you.
Speaker 4 (59:56):
You're probably not gonna do right. I don't think Jimmy
Fallon's mean spirited. I don't now. I don't watch him.
I'll watch clips.
Speaker 7 (01:00:02):
I'm thinking he's singing like they're having to sing off
with a guy who's a singer or an actor or
somebody like. Oh, they're pretty funny right now, just like
the one thing Kimmel used to do. Wasn't it that
Kimmel used to do? Wasn't it mean tweets?
Speaker 4 (01:00:13):
Yeah? No, those were funny, but it was funny because
somebody else was doing them, okay, and it wasn't you right?
Speaker 7 (01:00:18):
Found So late night television is no longer quite frankly
any good.
Speaker 4 (01:00:23):
Well.
Speaker 6 (01:00:24):
Conan O'Brien seems to agree, at least from his statements,
late night TV is going to disappear, and I don't
disagree with that.
Speaker 4 (01:00:31):
Uh, do you watch it anymore?
Speaker 13 (01:00:33):
No?
Speaker 7 (01:00:34):
I haven't watched it. Late Man with the Letterman was
can't miss for me. Leno did some good things. Carson
is the King and always will be the goat, and
nobody's got a chance Letterman, if there's any in the
team picture of goats, it's those two and then everybody
else filters down after that.
Speaker 4 (01:00:48):
But it's just like Saturday Night Live. There's a time
with Saturday.
Speaker 7 (01:00:51):
Night Live was must watch television, and hopefully they'll get
back to that. Saturday Night Live over the last decade
has been must miss television.
Speaker 4 (01:00:58):
Even longer than that.
Speaker 6 (01:00:59):
I would say that probably outside of live sports, nobody
wants to watch anything live an you are why am
I going to wait for this?
Speaker 7 (01:01:05):
And not only that, do I really even regardless of
what side of the fence you stand on politically or
at all that stuff, or do you hate the president
of the Alema, forget all that. Unfortunately they can't with
late night television. I'm all for comedians and in late
night television and their monologue having a little fun, make fun.
Speaker 4 (01:01:22):
Of the press.
Speaker 7 (01:01:22):
I'm all four that you should when it's not mean spirited,
even you don't like them because you're Alienatan. Well, the
reason why cole Beart's got you're losing forty million a year, Sorry, dude,
raids and sponsorships. We can't put you on TV. It's
called revenue, buddy, And if the eyes aren't on you,
then I can't pay you your big salary and you're
stealing from us, basically legalize theft. So when I tune
into late night television, Tom Moore, my old offensive coordinator
(01:01:46):
who's coached Terry Bradshaw. Now one of these things is
not like the other. Me and Bradshaw and Brady and Manning.
One of those things doesn't mix with the great quarterbacks.
But in Arizona, I think he had Kurt Warner or
you know, he just is and he's still coaching.
Speaker 4 (01:02:01):
He's like in his eighties.
Speaker 7 (01:02:02):
Ever you listen to Peyton Manning, imitate Tom or it's
the greatest funniest thing ever. And Tom's a phenomenal human
being in a great coach. Tom always just say goes.
You know, Tom would talk to me, He just everything
was focused. And he took on another coach of mine,
who is Kenny Meyer my my the reason why I'm
using them both both coaches both into.
Speaker 4 (01:02:20):
It every day. Kenny Myern. You say they don't read
the paper at night or at all, I mean they
read it. They don't. They don't read the negative news
at night.
Speaker 7 (01:02:28):
Why because why do I want to go to bed
feeling like that. And it's the same thing. So you
turn on me meaning read you read or listen anything negative.
So you go to bed, and now you want to
feel you.
Speaker 4 (01:02:41):
Know, you don't kind of want to.
Speaker 7 (01:02:42):
You don't want to lay there and stare at say like,
oh my gosh, this what I gotta wait tomorrow. This
is what's happening and all of a sudden, so there's
gonna be a war and all that I'm informed is
one thing.
Speaker 4 (01:02:49):
It was the old school doom scroll right right.
Speaker 7 (01:02:52):
And so just kind of said, you know, tom was
take your hat off when you're sitting the dinner table
all that. So don't watch that stuff. If you want
to go to bed, have a little piece of mine.
And now instead of going to bed like Letterman laughing
my ass off for Saturday Night Live, you turn those
on and you're laying there and by about a half
hour and you're like thanks. It's just like I say,
politics in sports, unless there's a mix for a reason,
(01:03:15):
I don't want to turn on NFL Live or I
don't want to turn on sports and have them give
me their soliloquy about who they've I don't care about it.
You can joke about it like we all do about
Kamla about Donald Trump. When you're impersonating, it's all fun
and games. But I'm talking about hardcore given to me.
I need respite from it.
Speaker 4 (01:03:32):
I just do. We have lost that, not only in
society and.
Speaker 7 (01:03:36):
Late night And that's why late night TV is gonna
go away because you've one side versus the other.
Speaker 4 (01:03:41):
It's never just make me laugh, dude. And if it's
making fun of somebody, make fun of somebody, it's not
mean spirited all the time, every day, same thing on TV.
I can't turn on sports shows anymore of the studio
shows on a lot of them. Why now, when you're
on Charles and Shack, they make you laugh. They don't
really care.
Speaker 7 (01:03:56):
They're not talking about them. They may say something that
makes fun of somebody. Then it on to the next
one and you laugh and you tune in. Give me
that for late night television. But when you talk about that,
who tunes in to want to hear Ryan Clark tell
me that race is an issue at quarterback?
Speaker 4 (01:04:11):
How about it? He's the only one that's judging. I'm
not judging.
Speaker 7 (01:04:13):
Lamar Jackson and Josh allen By whoo man, the white
guy throws it farther, and the black guy can run
faster and throw it more accurate.
Speaker 4 (01:04:20):
Than the white guy.
Speaker 7 (01:04:20):
I don't want to hear all of it, and I
don't want to hear that this, and I just want
to hear you break down a game, give me sports
and a paint. Now, if the politics or race does exist,
we damn well right race exists. And when Warren Moon
came out, we did talk about Warren. I've talked about
and we should. Hopefully that's gone. I'd like to think
we're by that. But my point is, why in the
world do I want to I tune in to get
(01:04:41):
away from it. I want to hear you talk ex's
and o's, who's CJ Straut attacking? Where's the weakness? Add
a little fun to it, add a little laugh, Show
me some highlights, give me a hard core opinion on
the sport, not on Hey, this is great. He's a
great player. But you know what I remember three years ago.
Give me something I don't know yet.
Speaker 4 (01:04:59):
We turn it.
Speaker 7 (01:05:00):
It's like I'm trying to get away from that stuff
to talk about the sport, the game. Well, your opinion
you have beyond there to give a hardcore opinion. Those
guys that around Stephen A.
Speaker 4 (01:05:08):
Smith.
Speaker 7 (01:05:09):
He was a journalist, but on those shows and get it,
He's not a journalist. He's an entertainer and he works
his ass off and I respect that. But we get
to a point where.
Speaker 4 (01:05:16):
Everything's about I'm trying the guy who works construction when
he's driving to work on this show.
Speaker 7 (01:05:21):
Do you think he really wants to hear somebody talk
about man, I'll tell you what. Did we want to
hear Bill Clinton and Donald Trump disagreements? No, because you
hear it all the day. It's such a freaking exhausting beatdown.
Speaker 4 (01:05:35):
I get it. If I want that, I know where
to go get it.
Speaker 7 (01:05:37):
Yeah, and I understand opinion weaved in on's while it's
fine we all joke about it, but when it's the
entire essence of your show, I'll turn it off and
I don't watch it anymore because I all wins it coming.
Here we go, here it comes.
Speaker 4 (01:05:51):
We were just talking about the matchup between Mahomes and Lamar,
and it's turned into a WNBA comment between Kate Clark
and Angel Reese and why she's more popular than her
and who's getting more endorsements. Well, it's because of it.
It's like, stop it. We're talking quarterbacks. Yes, see my
point how it evolves. And I'm sating.
Speaker 7 (01:06:12):
Okay, I haven't watched the Studio Show and I lived
it for twelve years. I have not watched the Studio
Show in fifteen years, bits and pieces of clips. And
you know what, it bums me out because I think
you miss out on some good because there are some
good football talk or good baseball talk. Well, look at
you want baseball, don't turn on ESPN. They don't talk
baseball at all. They'd rather talk WNBA in the politics
(01:06:33):
of it than they would the Astros playing the Yankees
and the Yankee stadium and in fighting for a playoff spot.
And that stuff bothers me because we lost and it's
such a beatdown.
Speaker 4 (01:06:43):
We got enough anxiety and stress in the world.
Speaker 7 (01:06:45):
When you turn on a sports show, I'd kind of
like you to talk sports most of the time. Mix
in a joke about Trump, mix in a joke about
coming That's okay, it's not mean spirit, it's funny. But man,
when late night TV and sports are doing that, you
lost it. You want good One college game day, Charles
and Shaq and Ernie Johnson. Those are the two you say,
you know what, I know what I'm gonna get and
it's gonna be good.
Speaker 4 (01:07:06):
Yeah. Inform me and entertain me. That's it.
Speaker 6 (01:07:09):
And your life's not perfect, so don't try to tell
me how to make mine perfect either.
Speaker 4 (01:07:12):
Yeah, but I can tell you what.
Speaker 7 (01:07:13):
They're doing everything they can to make late night television
in sports not the way you want to watch it.
Speaker 4 (01:07:18):
Well, they don't have to try too hard, man, some
people like it.
Speaker 7 (01:07:21):
You can find out. I just personally need the rest.
But I don't want to go to bed at night
watching late night TV and beat and then stay awake
another hour and a half because I'm like, oh, man,
well that was such a beatdown.
Speaker 4 (01:07:32):
That's what happens. I just had twelve hours.
Speaker 9 (01:07:34):
Right.
Speaker 7 (01:07:34):
Oh they're raising our taxes or they're taking this away,
or they're taking that away, or your kid doesn't get
to make its own decisions in school and the parents.
Speaker 4 (01:07:40):
So it drives me nuts.
Speaker 6 (01:07:42):
Yep, two of us in that same boat. All right,
let's get back into the astros because mentioned Fromber earlier
and is he this now? Well what this is will
discuss Sean Salisbury Show Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 7 (01:07:55):
Sort of pro painter, sort of with the c cirtapro
dot com for your free estmate, every sort of pro business.
Each and every one of them is individually owned and operator,
which is cool because there's an emphasis on you, not
on just numbers and hey man, oh we got forty
four others to go to, so we're really not going
to paint their house, right, We're just going to kind
of rush through it. You are't getting a rush through job,
I can tell you because if you're going to, if
you're talking about a company and you haven't used them,
(01:08:18):
I ain't.
Speaker 4 (01:08:19):
Why would I follow your lead.
Speaker 7 (01:08:21):
Don't tell me what a beer tastes like if you
haven't tasted the beer. Don't tell me how good a
paint job is just because you're getting paid, if in fact,
you haven't used them for me. I'm just telling you
I use them in they're great and well you got
to have it starts top with great leadership and dale
and cert of pro off the charts. I'm so grateful
for there were coming into my home and get me
out of the DIY way and in tier next tier
(01:08:45):
in my home. You could do it for your homework
business and protect with.
Speaker 4 (01:08:48):
All expenses that it costs a lot of money to
run a business or run a home, right, so why
wouldn't you protect it with the quality painting asert of
pro painters and good people. They come into my home
and even when you're sitting there saying, I don't know
which pain it is, what do you think, Dale, Well,
let's look at this, Sean. This one's gonna pop because
we saw this on somebody else's house and it's gonna
hit here good. And I know those little things seem minor,
(01:09:09):
but they're major after it's up, because you go, I
gotta go do it again. As a di wire, I
should have talked to Curt of pro the best sort
of pro painters. It's sort of with the Sea.
Speaker 7 (01:09:18):
I love them because they do it right, they do
it fair, the price is right, but the job is
off the charts. And listen, if you want good painting,
sometimes you're just gonna have to sacrifice for it if
you want your crib or your business to look good.
Speaker 4 (01:09:31):
And they do.
Speaker 7 (01:09:32):
It's sort of pro painters, sort of with the Sea.
Certapro dot com for your free estimate sort of pro painters,
sort of pro painters. That's painting happy and we've but.
Speaker 2 (01:09:41):
The Sewn Salisbury show continues.
Speaker 6 (01:09:45):
Talking about a little bit at the beginning of the show,
and you know, just the six innings that he gives
up there in the first inning, fifth straight start that
he's pitched in and he's lost, and there was a
time in that first inning yesterday that's seen him go.
I was like, I don't know if he's going to
get an out, like you might have to already start
getting somebody up and getting them ready to come in
(01:10:07):
and pitch the second inning, and luckily he was able
to settle in, which again that was another Joe a
spot a thing after the game and somebody had called
it that I saw that responded to me on Twitter.
Oh he settled in, you know, able to get it going, Joe, Joe,
I get that if you like, if he gives up
two or three runs in the first inning, maybe four,
because then at that point you're like, okay, we've still
(01:10:28):
got eight innings to work with.
Speaker 4 (01:10:30):
It's not great to be down where we are right now,
but six runs at that point you pretty much know
that your day is over at that point, and sure
enough it was because they scored one more and you
only scored two and the math is not compute.
Speaker 7 (01:10:42):
Well, let's uh, I don't do stat lines very well,
but five innings pitched, seven hits, seven runs, seven earned
four bases on ball two k's I don't give a
rats ass. If you settle in for fifteen innings, well,
you may save the bullpen from bra Valdez is not
the same pitch of the last five starts or whatever
it's been that he has been Host of the Year
and most of his career. Listen, good ones go through this,
(01:11:06):
great ones, don't good ones go through this? For the
most part, there's always something you never say. Always there
never in sports because it changed. Good ones go through this,
great ones. Don't great ones go through a game or two.
Great ones go through you.
Speaker 4 (01:11:21):
Where you struggle.
Speaker 7 (01:11:22):
You may take losses, but you're still so am I
supposed to say? A player back to the good at
bats he struck out, Well, how about let's go to
devers start hell of a player? Right, first twenty sum
of bats he'd struck out at twenty five bats, he
struck out like eighteen or nineteen or twenty times. This
year when he was in Boston, started out with eighty
five or so percent of visit bats. Started off in
(01:11:44):
his first twenty five to striking out. Now turn it
around a little bit in Boston they trade him. It's
been up and down in San Francisco. So am I
supposed to be great at bats? Hey Man great? But
he settled in. He struck out four times, but he
settled in. That one foul ball he had was was lovely.
So with all the credit we give from her, and
(01:12:05):
were we not saying three and a half four weeks
ago that this dude is lights out? He has been fantastic,
And I know it changes the ebbs and flows of baseball.
Speaker 4 (01:12:19):
I don't know. Somebody find it. Did Randy Johnson do this?
Speaker 6 (01:12:23):
I think he had a little bit of struggles before
the Astros got him in the trade.
Speaker 4 (01:12:27):
I think v Low was down and when he was
twenty four to twenty five.
Speaker 6 (01:12:32):
Yeah, I mean it was when he was much younger. Yeah,
So I get it. But it's rare. Like you said, well,
Randy's a great one. I guess it's right.
Speaker 7 (01:12:38):
And maybe maybe the metrics say well, Sean, Roger Clemens
and Pedro they all went through this where they just
got hammered five straight games or six straight games.
Speaker 4 (01:12:47):
And maybe even being.
Speaker 7 (01:12:48):
Too hard on him, and maybe we complimented him too
much when he was really good. The bottom line is,
you can't tell me that it was a good performance yesterday.
Speaker 4 (01:12:58):
Stop it. You can't. I know you got it. You
can't settled in a way he gets settled into five innings,
settled into being down six nothing right.
Speaker 7 (01:13:07):
Settle into Now you got to get some help from
your friend's defense and at the plate. I get that,
But hence why if you know your team struggling, you
can't give up six or seven earned one time.
Speaker 4 (01:13:20):
It's gonna it's good. Listen.
Speaker 7 (01:13:22):
It's a long season, as we hear all the time,
and we've heard way too much, no doubt. So if
if for being fair with all the compon, well you can't.
You can't criticize. Yeah, I actually can, because if I
don't do that when it's fair, then then we're just
to just kiss the ass all the time.
Speaker 4 (01:13:38):
I can't.
Speaker 7 (01:13:39):
I can't live like that and I never will. But
frombers listen, premium left handed one of the best in
the game. You bet the last five starts he's been
just a guy. You roll him out there and there's
no it's like this is easy, and it's been easy.
And for the opponent, it's been easy. And when you're
not getting help from your buddies at the plate, you're
you're well. Basically you can put your leg between your
(01:14:00):
your head between leg, kiss your rear and goodbye. He
got no shot, so there is no doubt. And he's
he's been different. Now does that mean he can't well, Shawn,
you're saying he's not an eat No, I'm not saying
that at all. Can he go on and give you
five great start?
Speaker 4 (01:14:14):
Sure? But when's it gonna happen?
Speaker 7 (01:14:16):
And so he's got into this whatever mode it is
that he's going through. He's not unhittable, he's it's it's
been pretty easy for the opponent lately, and he's not
been good. And to my my fact is I I'm
not going to see a quarterback go through You know,
Brady's not going through.
Speaker 4 (01:14:33):
He'll go one or two.
Speaker 7 (01:14:34):
He ain't going through five starts of where it's just
ass if the team's good and now you're not gonna
see Mahomes go through this. The numbers may be down,
but even if you're going through tough times, you know what,
still got to find a way to get it done
and win. So okay, so we're gonna give him credit
for what do we say fight there? Would you say
fight through settle in?
Speaker 4 (01:14:53):
Yeah? Okay.
Speaker 7 (01:14:55):
So if a guy goes six innings and five of
them were really good, but the first inning and you're
still lost, I don't know that's that glasshouse full. I
guess right, yes, that's the one thing you ate a
few more in. He got to five, and I don't
know his five innings enough for from ber Valdez shouldn't be.
Speaker 4 (01:15:13):
If he settled in, then why are you pulling him
out after five innings? Exactly?
Speaker 7 (01:15:17):
If he settled in, why is he going seven? Since
we know the bullpen's ass is taxed? Maybe I'm good
at this stage of season. I'm getting two into all
this stuff, but I'm just trying to add some logic
and common sense to it. If he settled in, can
I get two more innings out of him? Then hey,
you're getting your ass kicked. You don't want to tax
(01:15:37):
the bullpen. He's a workhorse. The guy has been has
been as hangled with the load that he gets as
far as working innings. Over the last three or four years,
he's been as good as there is in baseball. If
he settled in at five, why can't he go seven
to save the bullpen?
Speaker 4 (01:15:52):
I mean, settling in is one thing.
Speaker 7 (01:15:56):
If I throw four picks in the first quarter, but
have three good quarters and we still lose. But I
threw four picks but yet two t I settled in,
but your start sucks so.
Speaker 4 (01:16:04):
Bad, just still put your team in a bad spot,
no question about it.
Speaker 7 (01:16:09):
That's the whole, the whole premise of this. So yeah,
if this playoff started tomorrow, which they don't, the old
if question, you can't start him first, You can't.
Speaker 4 (01:16:21):
You absolutely cannot. I don't even know if I want
to start him second.
Speaker 7 (01:16:24):
Well that that that I guarantee is going to happen,
just because you're going to hope that he sells in
and he may in the next one.
Speaker 4 (01:16:30):
How many starts he got left? Five? Yeah, four?
Speaker 7 (01:16:33):
Five maybe something like that, right, So let's say it's
thirty games in your every five days, so maybe five
to six starts, four to six starts somewhere in there.
If they unless they give him resk because there are
four games in front of the first place they want
to get him an ext you know, push him back
a little bit.
Speaker 4 (01:16:47):
I get it now. Settling in is one thing.
Speaker 7 (01:16:50):
Working innings, but I don't call five innings being I
don't call five innings saving your bullpen.
Speaker 4 (01:16:55):
Just sorry.
Speaker 6 (01:16:56):
Well, you should be able to trust him, but maybe
you trust somebody else, and we'll discuss right here. It
is a Sean Salisbury show on a Thursday Sports Talk
seven ninety Hey.
Speaker 7 (01:17:05):
Guys, D and M Auto Leasing, do you realize that
people now banks are extending loans eighty four ninety six
months on a B vehicle.
Speaker 4 (01:17:15):
People are buying that.
Speaker 7 (01:17:19):
Twenty percent of loans now are extended so far out
twenty percent of those loans. It's like you're seven years worth.
It's like you're buying a mortgage. Can you imagine? And
with D and M Leasing, which is great, they have
easy lease. That's why more people now than quite frankly
(01:17:39):
than in recent memory, are switching to lease. And easy
lease is how you're going to settle those high payments
you're paying. And they're high, so why wouldn't you settle
into something that's got lower payments, that has been in
business forty nine years and has fifty thousand satisfied clients
on the road today.
Speaker 4 (01:17:57):
And it is the.
Speaker 7 (01:17:59):
Go and the OG when it comes to forty nine
years makes you the OG. When it comes to leasing
in the automobile business, think about that. Now twenty percent
of people are getting seven year loans. Don't don't apply
a mortgage to your vehicle. Easy Leasing's changing the game, man.
So what do you want to do? You want the
(01:18:20):
process to be set up to where it favors you. You
want to get the vehicle you want. You want it
to be lower payments, and you want to give any
money down, you can use that money down somewhere else.
A lot of people are doing it, and forty nine
years tells me they've withstood the test of time. So
why are they leasing more? Well, I just told you
lower monthly payments, no money down. It's time for you
(01:18:42):
to make that call or go to dmauto leasing dot
com picking mine up this week dmauto leasing dot Com.
Do not get locked into a seven year Now. I
understand that some people that's what they want to do.
But if you're doing it right and want more money
in your pocket instead of giving it to them, meaning
a bank because you're going out, or a car dealer
(01:19:03):
because you're going out and saying ninety six months for
your vehicle.
Speaker 4 (01:19:07):
Let's get into this lease business. D and M Auto
Leasing dmauto leasing dot Com. Lower monthly payments, no money down.
Pretty good way to start dmauto leasing dot Com.
Speaker 1 (01:19:20):
Let the celebration start.
Speaker 2 (01:19:22):
War Sean Salisbury on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 6 (01:19:28):
And they're gonna get the Orioles, who just took two
out of three from them at home last weekend, to
start up a series tonight they're in Baltimore. But continuing
with fromber Valdez, Sean, it's gotten to the point too
fold with me number one, He's just another guy right
now for this team. I mean, people, whenever you see
oh Fromber's going in that game, Oh man, feel great?
Speaker 4 (01:19:48):
Not the last five.
Speaker 6 (01:19:50):
And I mean it's honestly because of the Dow Jones
affect with them that it's hashtag good Fromber that the
season's not over. But at the end of it, I
miss me with the sign the man, pay the man,
all of these things. Even if you have a twenty
twenty two performance out of fromber Valdez going the rest
of the way and you are able to make a
(01:20:11):
run in the postseason, I just I'm done with the
up and down with this guy.
Speaker 4 (01:20:15):
I really am.
Speaker 6 (01:20:16):
I'm done with the oh man, you know, is that
gonna throw him off? In this start, he doesn't get
a strike call, somebody hits a number up the third
third base line and they get on base, and that
annoys him because he feels like he made his pitch
but he wasn't rewarded for it.
Speaker 4 (01:20:29):
I'm just I'm all the way out on it.
Speaker 6 (01:20:31):
And the fact that he's just another guy right now
is part of what's hurting this team. The guy going
to night for the Astros, Jason Alexander. I trust him
a whole hell of a lot more right now than
I trust Romber Valdez. And that's sad.
Speaker 7 (01:20:44):
Well, through these five games and Alexander's last three started
Fromber's last five or six, and Alexander's last three, why
wouldn't you.
Speaker 4 (01:20:52):
That's just it. I mean, he's proven it now.
Speaker 7 (01:20:55):
The body of work for Fromber says, if you had
to start one or the other, of course you're going
to start from Valdez because at any given time he's
so good. You go in there, he'll want to hit
you for eight innings and he'll strike out ten and
he'll be right back at it. What he is in
my opinion, an innings eating streaky pitcher when he's going
good and.
Speaker 4 (01:21:13):
That's not supposed to be at the top of my rotation.
Speaker 7 (01:21:15):
You're going good, that wallet's getting fatter, struggling through it
at times and up and down. He becomes a guy
and it's like it's like and then you feel like, well,
do I have to apologize for or protect him? No,
he's a grown ass man. He's not been pitching. Well,
that's time, he said. Well, Jason Alexander, well put it
this way. With your ace, you can't be telling me
your fourth or third or fourth or fifth starter. You
(01:21:37):
trust more than your ace. And unfortunately, if that's crept
into you frommer's not mowing people down the ways and
at this time of the year, he can't be giving
up that kind of runs six' seven runs earn runs
in a game and getting you five.
Speaker 4 (01:21:51):
Innings.
Speaker 7 (01:21:51):
UNFORTUNATELY i know it's a, bummer but this is when
the best players on your team have to do something
different to.
Speaker 4 (01:21:58):
Elevate they just do or you end up. Short, YEAH
i mean it's much more than just the.
Speaker 7 (01:22:03):
Hitter If Aaron judge, struggles why haven't they won a
WORLD i, mean it's not just, him but If stanton
And Aaron judge are not hitting the ball in, postseason
which we've seen at times in the. Past, right great,
regulars but if they're, not what happens then they say
they're not. Winning, yeah in the entire team catch, up
they are not, winning no matter how good you, know
no matter how. Good what's my shortstops name the young? Kid,
(01:22:23):
yeah what's? That, yeah no matter HOW i don't, CARE
I volpe hits a home run a. Game you will
tell guys like, that it'll just it'll be. Great it's.
Nice but your big dogs have to well be big.
Dogs and right Now fromber is a mere shell of
his self that we saw seven starts. Ago got to
get back to. That, oh obviously, capable but hasn't done.
Speaker 4 (01:22:43):
It now for. Sure that's why The.
Speaker 6 (01:22:44):
Astros another reason that you can throw a log on
the fire force for why things have not been. Good
someone three, two, one two, five seven ninety is the
number to get.
Speaker 4 (01:22:52):
In Joe.
Speaker 6 (01:22:53):
SPATA a couple of things said by, him both not,
great but what they stand.
Speaker 4 (01:22:58):
For same answer for that we'll discuss.
Speaker 6 (01:23:00):
Here start the eight o'clock hour on A, Thursday Sports
talk seven ninety all, right.
Speaker 7 (01:23:05):
Guys let's discuss This Renegade. FANTASY i had a fun
talk with The Chipper jones yesterday and said he's a,
big huge fantasy football. Guy, said hey, man he, GOES
i throw the remote at THE. Tv i'm so into
it On. SUNDAYS i, said, WELL i got something for,
you and you can substitute in real time during the.
Game he looked at me like WHAT i. Said, yeah
(01:23:25):
maybe it'll save SOME TVs and remote for. You Renegade
fantasy is the only app that lets you substitute during a.

visit courtesy Of Carboch, brewing but Mentioned joe A. Spota
we played some audio for you, yesterday a couple of different.
Cuts well TODAY i went ahead and just did a
Cut brian McTaggart's question and then the final that he
had from his press availability after the, game AND i
threw out a Tweet sean afterwards because frustrated by yet
another non competitive performance that you've, had, which, again pretty
(01:26:48):
much every single one of these games except for the
one that you lost On tuesday, night you've not been.
Competitive you've had to Use chas McCormick as a position
player pitching in three of those.
Speaker 4 (01:26:57):
Games so this is the result that you. Get, Well.
Speaker 6 (01:27:01):
Spota after yesterday's, game we mentioned it about the guys
left on base and you, know hitting with runners and scoring,
position all of those different types of. Things, well listen
to that part, first and then his follow up about
the struggles of the team at this, MOMENT a, right, yes,
win traffic.
Speaker 4 (01:27:20):
Runs let's go the fact this series, over you're leaving
here and go to a new.
Speaker 3 (01:27:25):
SERIES i make it easier to turn the page and
put this.
Speaker 15 (01:27:27):
Fine, yeah, yeah you, know it's, baseball. Guys he's a, long,
long long.
Speaker 4 (01:27:31):
Season it's a long.
Speaker 15 (01:27:32):
Season and you, know we're still in a really good.
Position last TIME i checked me in first. Place and
we're not just you, know trying to ride the wave
to you, Know. September, no we are grinding and we
got to continue to. Grind and this is what happens In.
August you, Fight you fight through, this through, this through. This,
(01:27:55):
uh tough.
Speaker 6 (01:27:56):
Stretches all, Right, sean there's two things right there and.
There what he, did he absolutely, did and it was
about two or three times that he. Did but there's
two things here and they're both. Bad he either a
doesn't know what's going, on OR b he's burying his
head in the. Sand either, way it's a bad.
Speaker 4 (01:28:13):
Lung he knows what's going. On, Hey, Joe joe's a
good baseball.
Speaker 7 (01:28:16):
Guy you AND i both know that he knows what's
going on, now knowing what's going on and doing something
about it or approaching.
Speaker 4 (01:28:23):
It.
Speaker 7 (01:28:24):
Now he may be approaching it to the like of his,
team but not to the like what we hear in
the fans are hearing listen as a guy who holds
him in pretty high, regard BUT i can disagree with
soaking you with some of the things he does and.
Says to, me listening to that was felt like memo
was sent down in house.
Speaker 4 (01:28:44):
Say make sure you mitching grind and make sure you
say it's a long.
Speaker 7 (01:28:47):
Season and you know, WHAT i hate to tell him,
this it's no longer a long. Season you have TO
i personally am a guy that thinks you should break
the season down into like what forty SHOULD i, SAY
i don't care if you do four forty game increments
where it's like forty, games forty, games forty?
Speaker 4 (01:29:06):
Games what was that? Game one hundred and sixty of
one hundred and sixty? Two right to me if my
math is.
Speaker 7 (01:29:10):
Correct at this stage of the, GAME i almost feel
like when you say it's a long season and you chose,
grind that we're getting to a point where it's the
built In it's it's a built in way to, say,
man we keep grinding and we're going to get through.
It it's a built in way of not having to
to really address what's really wrong. Here they are, underperforming not,
(01:29:33):
everybody but as a, team they are underperforming. Mightily now
with that they are still in first. Place And, joe
last time you, checked you're exactly.
Speaker 4 (01:29:43):
Right you saw.
Speaker 7 (01:29:43):
Right you are in first, place which in my mind
is nothing short of fascinating and amazing considering all they've
been through this. Year but at this stage of the,
game guess, what you don't want to hear that to.
ME i don't think you. CAN i don't think you
can call, it, well it's a long.
Speaker 4 (01:30:00):
Season we know. That everybody knows it's a long. Season
but you can't build that.
Speaker 7 (01:30:07):
In If i'm a player and you keep telling me
it's a long, Season you're gonna wake up and there's
gonna be five games to, go and then it's no
longer a long. Season you're, insight you're at thirty five
games left to. Go now what do YOU i guess
you break it into a what eleven twelve game type, incrementsary, say,
okay here's what we got to. Do these four, series
and the next four, series the next four. Series you
(01:30:27):
do whatever you. Want from my, standpoint this IS i
personally would, say, guys remember when we played at our,
best here's our thirty.
Speaker 4 (01:30:36):
Game, here here's where it.
Speaker 7 (01:30:37):
Is, now this is how you have to look At
we have got to do whatever it takes to get
back to, that and whether the teaching's saying it's not
gonna be good enough for, anybody they gotta go do
it and execute. It it's no longer a long. Season
i'm just. Sorry it's not a long season. Anymore what it,
is it's a short. Season that's a dead ass. Sprint
and to, me when you keep telling me it's a
(01:30:58):
long season that you'll la in the urgency, department you
lag in the urgency. DEPARTMENT i would one and eighty,
degrees flip it the other, way not three, sixty because
if you go three, sixty you're right back to where
you started one hundred and eighty. Degrees where you flip and, say,
guys we're not in a long season. Anymore it is
a dead, sprint and we cannot afford geys to decide,
(01:31:19):
well And i'm not gonna take them and take a
LITTLE i need, this and you know you've got to
come to the. Ballpark we've got thirty five to. Go
it's a short season, now because the more you tell me,
WHAT i, would, oh it's long. Seat, okay, Cool so
we got. Time we're in first, place we're a game
and a half in. Front we've got, time and then
you're gonna wake up and it's gonna be ten games
(01:31:39):
left to, go and then you're gonna tell me it's
a short. Season this is a dead ass sprint to the.
Finish it is not a long season. Anymore it's a
long season when you, start ay, man it's a. Grind
the long year met dog days Of. August the problem
is the dog days Of august have you in a
vicious fistfight to win the.
Speaker 6 (01:31:58):
Division i'm willing to listen to That. July i'm not
willing to listen to it in Late.
Speaker 7 (01:32:01):
August, Well i'm not willing once you're inside of fifty
games to, me and then the long season goes. Out
and now now whatever happened good or bad from, there
feed off the, good get rid of the. Bad all
they'll learn from. It we got fifty games, ago. Guys
this is where ramp up time. Goes IF i keep
telling my players in, football, hey It's, december long, season, man.
Speaker 4 (01:32:24):
It'll Be january and you'll be.
Speaker 7 (01:32:26):
OUT i wouldn't get too comfortable as An astros fans
with a game and a half. Lead if there's no
sense of, urgency you won't make the. Playoffs the way they're,
hitting they're not a playoff team right. Now they're fortunate
that they're in first. Place. Now the reason they're in
first place they've earned. It they have earned it to
get to this. Point the talents, there and they've had
stretches where you're, like this is a there's times when
(01:32:48):
the betting lines and the way the national media and
people were talking about it is this is a one
or two top favorite in The American league to be
The World series. CHAMPION i don't think many people are
saying that right.
Speaker 6 (01:33:00):
Now, no they're not a lot of people looking at
this lineup, saying, boy there are a lot of.
Speaker 4 (01:33:04):
Holes there's a lot of outs in that.
Speaker 6 (01:33:05):
Lineup oh for seven yes day runners in scoring, position
eight runners left on, Base.
Speaker 4 (01:33:09):
But we got, traffic so that's a.
Speaker 7 (01:33:11):
Win the easy, Answer, dan for all of, us the
easy answer is to, say it's a long.
Speaker 4 (01:33:17):
Season we're.
Speaker 7 (01:33:18):
Grinding the hard answer is to say it's a short.
Season we've got to play. Better we need more urgency
because right, now my, staff, me the, players we're not
playing with enough of. It that's not derogatory to your.
Team and if they find that derogatory and are offended by, It,
well then you're not going to be any good. Anyway
you can't get offended by constructive criticism or being a
(01:33:40):
little bit of a little nudge to, say then we're in.
Speaker 4 (01:33:43):
It we are frigging in the throes of. It and
if you sit there a.
Speaker 7 (01:33:48):
Wallow in the, way they're going, NOW a, MAN i
know it's a, grind but we're. Close guess what close
gets you third? Place second? Place watching on, television it
ain't a. Matter and sometimes you got to shift the.
Narrative sometimes you just absolutely have to shift the paradigms
of what's going.
Speaker 4 (01:34:07):
On long, season, yeah leading up to.
Speaker 7 (01:34:09):
It now you have to be able to change shift
on a, dime, man and leave nine cents change for
the rest of them and kick into a different. GEAR
i ain't down shifting right. Now and WHEN i hear
grind and long, season it tells, me, well we can shift.
Down we still got time to, recruit and they. Do
they're a game and a half for thirty five to.
Go when it comes to just the wins and win
and lost. Column but AS i said, yesterday And i'll
(01:34:31):
say it louder, today talented team and. Good they are
not talented, enough probably good. Enough the way they're playing,
now they are not good enough to, say, oh we'll
turn it on with twenty games to. Go they're not,
that they're not good enough to do. That this ain't
the twenty Seven, yankees, buddy sorry to tell. You and
it ain't the regular season to whatever it Was mariners
when they wont one hundred and thirteen or hundred and fifteen.
(01:34:52):
Games so talented is one. Thing performance is. Another and
they aren't good enough and that's not. Derogatory it's just
this year not good enough to, Say, okay we can
turn it on. Now because guess What detroit to laugh
at you when you say you want to turn it
on right now that you're good enough to just turn
it on and off like a light. Switch and a
whole bunch of teams. Held the four favorites to win
(01:35:12):
The World series are all in The National, league which
is a good thing for The American league because you
can go take the. Thing but if there's no sense
of urgency and you're stuck in, hey it's a long
season and we're. Grinding grinding's got to start producing. Results
are grind is just all you're doing is going around
in circles like the electric football set when you clasped
arms and just keeps going around in.
Speaker 4 (01:35:30):
Circles i'm not going. Anywhere this isn't a. Treadmill gotta
get going.
Speaker 6 (01:35:34):
Now thirty five games left shows you that urgency needs
to be. There speaking of, urgency does somebody in that
clubhouse have? Its, well they might have stepped up yesterday
and we will discuss right. Here it is A Shawn
salisbury show On Thursdays Sports talk seven.
Speaker 4 (01:35:48):
Ninety buckle.
Speaker 2 (01:35:50):
Up The Shawn Salisbury show.
Speaker 4 (01:35:53):
Continues it's going to be a.
Speaker 6 (01:35:55):
Hell, well the material girl was after. IT i mean she,
uh it was her In konseko for a, Minute Kahlia
Joe Joe.
Speaker 7 (01:36:04):
Coo, yeah, yeah much respect to her. Career but, hmmm
she got on that train and it took a dirt
road somewhere along the.
Speaker 4 (01:36:16):
Line, Brother, Okay Madonna madonna runaway. Train, yeah she'd make
a train take a dirt. Road couldn't sneak up on
a glass of. WATER i just wanted to be away
from that, train.
Speaker 6 (01:36:30):
Though make sure make sure you're nowhere near it when
it comes to be on the midnight train To.
Speaker 4 (01:36:34):
Georgia there you. Go i'm sorry to, go Glad glady's
told us about.
Speaker 6 (01:36:37):
That but The texans are In detroit and they're gonna
get The lions On saturday to close out the. Preseason
but they're gonna practice with them. Today talk about that
here in just a few, minutes but you, know talking
about just the team at the moment and the lack of,
urgency at least on the. Outside, Well Carlos korea After tuesday's.
Game brian McTaggart had this up On astro's And korea
(01:37:01):
was one of the players who spoke in a team
meeting after tuesday night's, loss and his message was one
of encouragement to keep the faith in a reminder they're
still in a pretty good spot atop The American League.
West now you're saying to, yourself all, right you're still
feeling good after that last. Series, well, No korea yesterday
didn't mince. Words as McTaggart, writes we got out, played
(01:37:24):
simple as that they played better. Baseball they played a
really good brand of baseball and we. Didn't when you're
facing one of the best teams in the league and
we don't show, up that's going to happen talking about
that they've lost their approach a little.
Speaker 4 (01:37:37):
Bit at the.
Speaker 6 (01:37:37):
Plate The astros are hitting one sixty eight and have
scored seven runs in the past six, games with just
five extra base. Hits they've been shut out four times
during that, stretch including twice To baltimore and then once
in this series against The Detroit.
Speaker 4 (01:37:51):
Tigers how many times do they normally get shut out
in a?
Speaker 6 (01:37:54):
Year, PROBABLY i mean you would ideally probably say about
that much in an entire. Year that's that's about as
much as you'd want To it's. KIND i don't know
how much the average team gets.
Speaker 4 (01:38:07):
Shot, YEAH i.
Speaker 7 (01:38:08):
Don't, either as kind AS i can, Be i'm telling,
You i'm even just talking about The. ASTROS i, mean
over the times we've seen, them it just doesn't feel
like over the course of time that they've been they've
been they've put up goose eggs on a regular. Basis
doesn't feel that way right in.
Speaker 6 (01:38:20):
The, past BECAUSE i, mean you would think that eventually
you get to a point, where even if you're getting
doors blown, off that you punch a run or two
across in the eighth inning and a no.
Speaker 4 (01:38:28):
Brainer there you. Go, well the one of the back
end of the. Bullpen, guys this year's, listen and this
is captain. Obvious but this year is. Different but we've
been saying it for months and months. Months this year
is going to be. Different nobody's running away at the.
Speaker 7 (01:38:41):
Division you're going to be in it until the last
week of the, season and it's going to. Happen it
is flat ass going to. Happen you're going to be
in it last week in the, season and hitting like,
this you may end up finding yourself at home because
it's this isn't just about see you're getting to the
point of not. Scoring you're fortunately you in first, place
but you're getting to the point of not. Scoring we're talk About.
Seattle are we keeping an eye on If? Boston are The, Yankees?
(01:39:04):
Toronto these other teams that are climbing and. That remember
if you happen to get beat in the three game
series and you're down a game and you've struggled and
don't do, it you're not just LOOKING i, mean don't
just stare at the. Division you got to start to
stare at the other things that are going on around
you because you get just because you're leading the. Division
now it's not a comfortable lead and you're not playing great.
(01:39:24):
Baseball you look up and all of a sudden you
lose the division, lead and a game or two later
you find yourself chasing the wild.
Speaker 6 (01:39:30):
Card, WELL i, mean at the, moment The mariners have
the final wildcard spot and they're two and a half
games in front of The royals for said final wildcard.
Speaker 7 (01:39:38):
Spot and we didn't even mention The royals have We,
no they're. Not they're capable of going on a little
bit of a. Run they've got some good, players and
they've got a star on that team that can carry you.
Speaker 4 (01:39:47):
Seven of the last ten in the one. Car there you.
Speaker 7 (01:39:49):
Go they're a threat to the wild, card which means
if you give up and go on a, street LIKE i, said,
fortunately imagine what would happen if The mariners were playing
their best, place if they're playing like The brewers right,
now what would you be out four or five games by?
Speaker 16 (01:40:04):
Now? Oh?
Speaker 4 (01:40:04):
Easily the wild card would be basically all you have
to cling.
Speaker 7 (01:40:08):
To and now you look. Around now you're not just
dealing with one, Team you're battling four or.
Speaker 4 (01:40:11):
Five, yeah they've lost seven to the last, eights so
that's the only saving.
Speaker 7 (01:40:14):
Grade you'd be about you'd be about five and a,
half six games out of first, place and now well
they're even Sean well they're, not of course they're. Not
but it only takes that one where the team gets.
Hot but we keep focusing on just because the goal
win the. Division but, man we've got to look at
the big picture also is how are those other, Teams,
Yankees Red, Sox, royals you, know how are they? Playing
(01:40:36):
and SO i think that's pretty. Important AND i just you,
know it's not just the. Result it's the optics, too
the optics that the plate are.
Speaker 6 (01:40:44):
Awful, WELL i mean it's it's not only, that it's
also where how many times this year have we looked
at a soft part of the, Schedule Like i'm sure
When gordy comes in here in about thirty, minutes we'll
talk about it four With baltimore this. Weekend BUT i
talked about it the way that you're swinging the bats right.
NOW i trust That orioles often much more than you.
Do you don't Have Ryan, mountcastle you don't Have Gunner,
henderson you don't Have Jackson. HOLIDAY i could continue to
(01:41:06):
go On, rutchmen any of the other names that are
in that. Lineup they showed you that last. Weekend they outclassed.
You they beat you up and down last week in.
Speaker 4 (01:41:14):
The one game that you won in that.
Speaker 6 (01:41:16):
Series you were lucky to win it because, well they're
a bad baseball, team and they played like a bad
baseball team at the wrong moment and didn't throw the
ball home and have a chance to double the guy
off at first base or at least.
Speaker 4 (01:41:27):
Send the next guy up to the plate who would
have been a.
Speaker 7 (01:41:29):
Pitcher, well let me ask you how many lineups in
baseball right now that are in? Contention would you take
over The astros the way they're hitting right, today not
overall in their, talent how.
Speaker 4 (01:41:41):
Many would you? Take this is going to be nationally. Too,
No i'm talking About American. League, Oh American.
Speaker 7 (01:41:45):
League it's not just The. Mariners it's not just The Baltimore,
royals and they're not even in. CONTENTION i, Mean i'll
take the one you just Saw. Detroit damn, right you
would have got pop they put the ball in. Play
novel Cons Red sox lineups not chopped. Liver No yankees
lineup's Got they've got some bobbers top, heavy but, still,
(01:42:07):
well who's not top heavy right. Now, okay So i'm
just compared to the if you're, looking if you're, relying
if we're just saying top, heavy then that then this
is LIKE i, said the sky is not. Falling you're
in first, place but it. Can it can change at
the blank of an. Eye, Man and the optics don't
tell you they can come out of it anytime.
Speaker 4 (01:42:28):
Soon yet they.
Speaker 7 (01:42:28):
Will now they're Gonna they're not gonna get shut out three.
Speaker 4 (01:42:31):
More times in a.
Speaker 7 (01:42:32):
ROW i wouldn't think or give up, fourteen, twelve and.
TEN i think they're gonna they'll fix. This but is
the fix gonna be enough to sustain it so they
can go play playoff baseball and roll through the?
Speaker 4 (01:42:44):
Playoffs it just is for just as good as we've
talked about.
Speaker 7 (01:42:47):
Him this is the other extreme where this is a
low point swinging the bat in a long time for,
me Since i've been in this.
Speaker 6 (01:42:55):
City, well get some of you in on the phone
lines to see you want to get in on the astros,
Discussion logan And, brandon see you all right? There you
want to join them some one three two one two
five seven ninety against someone three two one two five
seven ninety before we Get gordy in, here THOUGH i
also do want to talk a little, text and so
we'll do that here as we continue along in the
eight o'clock, Hour Sean Salisbury, Show Sports talk seven.
Speaker 7 (01:43:15):
Ninety, hey, guys your wealth advisor got any sizzle for?
You your financial fiduciary you know there are you know
they're obviously they're committed to making sure that they support your.
Speaker 4 (01:43:26):
Portfolio, right.
Speaker 7 (01:43:28):
But as your fight and if you don't have a wealth,
advisor it's a good time to Call Trasian wealth or
go visit them At trasanwealth dot.
Speaker 4 (01:43:33):
Com i've said it a million.
Speaker 7 (01:43:36):
Times think about the things you prepare for to save,
money or to prepare so you're not hammered with all
the vacation costs that. Much SINCE i made it two
weeks in, advance well you make it a year in.
Advance you get to go to that vacation and relax
and have some extra spending. Money so now let's let's
just fast forward to your. Retirement AND i understand if
you're thirty, five Say, sean this isn't for, me it's for.
(01:43:57):
Everybody proper prep prevents poor, performance right at least in most.
Aspects does it in retirement it may be the most.
Important why because if you want the same lifestyle you

though if there's, contribution you know What i'm.
Speaker 4 (01:48:59):
SAYING i don't. Know but with the.
Speaker 7 (01:49:00):
Transfer, Portal i've honestly given up trying to follow who
stays and who goes other than the guys that are obviously.
Speaker 6 (01:49:07):
Because then it's because then it's you, know as the
season is winding down In, december In, january you start
getting news that this guy's in the transfer portal and
all of that kind of, stuff and you're just, Like
i've become less.
Speaker 7 (01:49:18):
Interested even though we don't put our names of THE
usc on the back of our, Jersey i've become a
lot less interested on the name of the back of the.
Jersey it's just another RAP i mean the rappers. There
it's just another you, know another another. PLAYER i don't
know when when guys are, transferring there's ten or twelve
guys that go and come and. Go and how you
teach yourself as you get right back into. It, hell
because if if In may you said oh he's, here
(01:49:40):
you could blink.
Speaker 4 (01:49:41):
It In june he'd be. Gone well you, know you
know who could possibly coach? That, yeah well that'd be.
Speaker 7 (01:49:45):
NICE i have an Eddieo back would be, great great,
recruiter and that energy on defense would be. Awesome hopefully
we'll get that this, year and you, know you'd have
our Guy Derek pananski with him if that.
Speaker 4 (01:49:55):
Happened me and you were, going, oh, yeah, Well i've
been to The.
Speaker 6 (01:49:58):
Colisseum i've been outside of, it AND i walked inside
when they're putting the asphalt down for THE nascar. Race
SO i mean actually like got to like go in
and see, it you, know The olympic flame all of,
that and it was. Cool BUT i was, LIKE i
want to come to a game. Here, yeah it's a
it's a great place to. Go i'll be at a
couple of them this. Year i'm thinking about going To
South bend and. Watching as long AS sc play some
defense and they're, competitive that'd be.
Speaker 4 (01:50:17):
Great Maybe i'll tag along go to Mass you're inviting, Yourself,
WELL i, mean, yeah that's WHAT i.
Speaker 6 (01:50:23):
Do i'm Pretty i'm pretty good as an expert at. That,
hey how about, this how about?
Speaker 4 (01:50:27):
It come. Along i'll get tickets and you could pay
for the rest of the. Trip didn't really ask, you you,
know and you haven't been A South bend to a game,
inside NOT Sc Notre.
Speaker 6 (01:50:38):
Dame BUT i went in twenty seventeen When georgia played up,
there so the whole thing did did the walk around
campus went to Mass.
Speaker 7 (01:50:45):
It's a it's it's What Fenway park Or Wrigley field
is to be with.
Speaker 4 (01:50:49):
That it's what The augusta is to.
Speaker 7 (01:50:51):
Golf it's what Allen Field house is to, Basketball Cameron
indoor and you know so that that's AND i Guess
lambeau is to, football. Right you get that there and
it is just whether you Hate Notre dame or, not
the experience is off the charts and you're not gonna
have to worry about. IT i know it, happens but
there's not going to be much fighting in the, parking
(01:51:11):
lots of.
Speaker 4 (01:51:11):
Tailgating they do it, right they do it. Right everybody's incredibly, nice.
Speaker 7 (01:51:16):
And they welcome the visiting team pretty. Yeah they do WITH,
sc and that's a great national. Rivalry you always go
there and they're willing to have a cold beer with
you and laugh and give you some food and vice.
Speaker 4 (01:51:25):
Versa it's not a. Fight it's a respectful.
Speaker 6 (01:51:27):
Rivalry it's, respectful but it's ALSO i, mean you, know
kids that go To Notre. Dame probably we're looking AT
sc and kids that go TO sc were probably looking
At Notre. Dame so there's a lot of that too.
Speaker 7 (01:51:36):
THAT i can guarantee BECAUSE i was one of them
that took trips both way and both, places and it
was just a long ways, away AND i wanted to
be a little closer to.
Speaker 4 (01:51:44):
Home But Notre dame was. Special who was the coach
At Notre dame was that Foulest.
Speaker 7 (01:51:47):
Jerry Foust okay had just taken over for at that
point What Dan, DEVINE i guess was was Parceiging divine
and Then. Foust and he was At Cincinnati Molar High
school and went from a high school which was The
moeler was the equivalent Of Saint thomas Aquant. Us you,
know whoever you whoever you think the national power Is Bishop,
gorman one of those type schools the modern, day that's.
(01:52:08):
Who that's Who Molar High school In cincinnati. Was but
that's still a tough task going from the best high,
school one of the best high school teams in the
country to go Coaching Notre. Dame BUT i got news for.
It that dude Bled, green he Loved Notre. Dame football
as much as Anybody I've i've Ever i've ever, met
(01:52:29):
And i've been you, Know goldik AND i have known
each other a long time as much anybody ever.
Speaker 4 (01:52:33):
Met and you probably weren't an. HERE i THINK i Shared.
Brian we.
Speaker 7 (01:52:35):
Were it was getting recruited by them and they had
switched To vine to the season in and So Jerry
foust comes to my high.
Speaker 4 (01:52:42):
School, dude he was what?
Speaker 1 (01:52:44):
Sew, no you do?
Speaker 4 (01:52:44):
It because he always had that horse.
Speaker 7 (01:52:45):
Voice And jerry came to school and he was walking
around campus shaking everybody's, hand and everybody was Tripping Notre.
Speaker 4 (01:52:52):
Dames you know how The Notre. Dames, yeah was on.
Campus football season was.
Speaker 7 (01:52:56):
Over, yeah we're getting ready for, basketball and So i'm
going into practic basketball in the locker. Room my head
my head football coach calls me into the from the
locker room into his office And Coach faust was in
there and we talk about it and we're going and
having a. Conversation i'm Getting i'm, Dressed, ot we're getting
ready to go practice bits three ten after, school, right,
yeah And Coach faust before practice started three point, thirty
(01:53:18):
give you, Chance jerry's talking talking to Coach, moyner my
high school, coach and so we walked down the hallway
to go into the.
Speaker 4 (01:53:24):
And he, goes, show come, ON i got a contest for.
Us walk into the high school gym.
Speaker 7 (01:53:29):
And you, Know i'm, thinking And i'm res at that,
Time i'm seventeen years, old and he, says to have a.
Speaker 4 (01:53:38):
CONTEST i make it before you. Do you come to
the other.
Speaker 7 (01:53:40):
Day listally the time and the TIME i met him
in the office at the time we walked down to
the court was ten minutes. Max and you know your
little It's Jerry faust is on Camdis Notre, dame, right
and so we go in.
Speaker 4 (01:53:51):
There he, says half.
Speaker 7 (01:53:52):
Court so we went to half court to where the
sideline toward the side is the side part of the,
court AND i came to. It so we're shooting from
a corner, angle not not from the center, circle you
know where the tap.
Speaker 4 (01:54:04):
Is AND i, said, okay, coach let's do. This he
goes coming To Notre. DAME i, said, okay So i'm,
Thinking i'm kicking this old man's. Ass i'm a good.
Speaker 7 (01:54:15):
Play i'm gonna bury this the first shoot. It but
miss he, goes you go, ahead. Start he shoots, It.
Speaker 4 (01:54:20):
MISSUS i shoot the next, one hits off the back
of the. Rim.
Speaker 7 (01:54:23):
Missus he shoots the second, one nothing but. Net he
literally shook my hand said say It Notre dame walked
out of the. Gym you, know WHEN i saw him
next my recruiting, VISIT.
Speaker 4 (01:54:39):
I did. Gone. YEAH i mean it was literally from the.
Speaker 7 (01:54:43):
TIME i coached said oh, great great shot went out
and starts, shaking hav leaves the. GYM i go back
practice basketball and, answer AND i think it's probably. Blasted
maybe that's you know WHY i had a knee. INJURY i, said,
NO i Know god doesn't, punish but BECAUSE i, well
you can't tell The catholic university head coach that. You, okay,
COACH i got. You i'm thinking he's got to take.
(01:55:04):
It he's not even going to get to the.
Speaker 4 (01:55:05):
Rim. Dude he knocks it, down And i'm, thinking, Well,
sean you ended up lying to The catholic guy because
you didn't end up going to go To southern Cal.
So he but he knocked it down and it took
him two.
Speaker 6 (01:55:15):
Shots, well you, Know i'm not a man of the,
cloth BUT i would say that probably they would tell
you you, know a couple Of Hail mary's for your
your penance and you should be.
Speaker 7 (01:55:23):
Absolved, yeah we had to throw a few of them
because we played him and it was a battle. Royal
but he was a great.
Speaker 4 (01:55:27):
Man you, know probably he was a little over his
head At Notre dame because it's.
Speaker 7 (01:55:31):
Heist that's a big. TASK i, mean you, know that's
a that's a big there's a lot that goes with.
It but what a what a phenomenal human being he.
Was But Notre dame is ANYBODY i would tell out.
There just as much as people want to go watch
a night game AT, lsu or watch a game At Allen,
fieldhouse Watch kansas play. Basketball you want to Go Polly
pavilion AT. Ucla you want to go watch a game
At Notre, dame regardless of who's.
Speaker 6 (01:55:51):
Playing aggi's are going to be up there this. Year
i've been telling all my friends that Are. Aggies i'm, like,
dude that's that's a. Trip you need to do. It
you need to Do friday night In, chicago drive Into,
indiana go to the.
Speaker 7 (01:55:59):
Game it's tons of. Fun it really. Is no part
of It, SOUTH i, mean have a Beer. South ben's
not that you want to do In chicago and then
tailgate the next. Morning, yeah go to The cubs game
BECAUSE i think they play that. Weekend so. Awesome it
all works out for.
Speaker 6 (01:56:10):
Sure All, right let's get into a little bit Of
texans because iron sharpens iron is what we're always. Told
but could this pay? Dividends we'll discuss Here Sean Salisbury, Show.
Speaker 1 (01:56:21):
You're.
Speaker 2 (01:56:21):
Back this is The Sean Salisbury, show get back at.
Speaker 6 (01:56:25):
It but seven one, three two one two, five seven
ninety is the number to get in and showing before
we get to the nine o'clock, hour mentioning about The
texans alliance getting that practice in and it seems a
little strategic because last, WEEK i, MEAN i haven't seen
very many notes from when they went up against The Carolina,
(01:56:45):
panthers but from WHAT i, UNDERSTAND i think The texans
were the better team that you saw out. There but
now this is heading into the, season you've got to
believe this is strategic WHERE i don't know how much
you get to choose your preseason. Games maybe it's just
the luck of the, draw but you got to believe
that The, miko knowing the coaching staff over, there knowing
the team, Said, Oh Dan, campbell you're damn, right we're
(01:57:06):
coming up there and practicing with.
Speaker 7 (01:57:07):
You oh, yeah you wanted Because i'm telling, you even
though they lost, coordinators which is a big, deal meaning In,
detroit they're a really good, team and it'll be good
because they're. Physical it'll test. You, Now i'm not even
talking about the, game, Dude i'm talking about the.
Speaker 4 (01:57:21):
Practice, no this is this is the. Game this is
what's because do you Think stroud's dropping back fifteen times
in this? Game?
Speaker 7 (01:57:27):
NOW i don't even know if he plays it's going
to BE i don't even know if they've announced. It
but if he, plays now you get a lot of
work in this practice series of, course, right and get
him out and not put him in harm's way where
you're worried About and if you're almost you go up
To Dan campbell in true, passes, right you almost go
up To Dan campbell's say let's let it rip and
control this during. Practice but in the, game you know
others stayed around in the, field and don't think coaches
(01:57:48):
don't do. This, Dude we're gonna, listen say we're not
gonna blitz much. Today let's just get through this. Game
and not that they'd say, it but you you there's
this feeling of go play, hard guys trying to make your,
team but when our ones are in, there let's just
let's just base it.
Speaker 6 (01:58:02):
Down well IT'S i, mean especially for those, guys but
it's if anybody gets, it It's Dean. Campbell because that's
the reason why that team was not in the Super
bowl last year is they basically lost everyone.
Speaker 7 (01:58:11):
Right and still battled their ass, off but just couldn't
stave off what a Good washington team that Watched jade
And daniels play out of his. Mind but that's Who
Jaden daniels is and we've seen. That get a chance
to see it again this. Year but, yeah the, practice
they'll be. Physical the one THING i love about it
is you get two coaches that get it played and
understand how important going full speed and practice is going
(01:58:33):
to be the thing THAT i want to see coming
out of. This, listen running a good route and catching
all that. Stuff that'll come up fine with to. Me
If i'm watching this practice And i'm in person watching,
it you, know watching them work Against, detroit you know
What i'm watching the front seven and the offensive. Line
i'm both SKATES i wanted Because detroit's offensive line will
test your front seven and their run. Game they will
(01:58:55):
test you aside from the best two deepest running back
rooms in this league today when they're both healthy and
hopefully They're joe And all they're fully. Healthy are this
team in The Detroit lions now different because You gibbs
is an edge. Guy we got thumpers inside who got some.
Wiggle they got some pounded inside With, montgomery but nobody
(01:59:17):
gets to the edge quicker Than gibbs, does. Period so
you're gonna be tested on the edge in the front
seven And detroit's ones versus your. Ones that's a front
seven versus good offensive line Like phillya's areas in the.
League it's. On that's where you're gonna learn about both. Teams,
listen can golf. Thrower are they gonna score this?
Speaker 4 (01:59:34):
Year?
Speaker 7 (01:59:34):
Yep they sure. Are should the text and score this? Year,
Yep they're gonna score points as long as that offensive.
Line that's the biggest. Test if you're looking and if
you want to watch the game and see, it you're
not going to see enough of. It this will be
one of the fun practices and physical practices that you
will see in any team's preseasons stuff this, year because
they're going to test you.
Speaker 4 (01:59:54):
With what your weakness, is and that is your offensive, line.
Speaker 7 (01:59:58):
And you're gonna test them with their front seven saying,
okay we'll come at. You we're we're pretty two, dimensional
and you're going to have to take on just a
little one a drag him the, gun a couple of our.
Thumpers so this is a great, test and to, me
it's the practice. Field the game On game three is
not really tell me anything anywhere in the. League, now
if you're in the, quarterback you want to see what
the next level, is how Good fields is going to
(02:00:21):
play in some other, city, fine or If Jackson dart
really is a threat to win the. JOB J. J, McCarthy,
right no, doubt got to see, that but not much of.
Speaker 4 (02:00:30):
IT i just want to get. Guys it's the practice.
Speaker 7 (02:00:32):
Field AND i can't wait to hear how the physicality
went for both, teams because both of these teams Are january.
Speaker 6 (02:00:38):
Teams going to be interesting to pay attention to what's
happening up. There, so LIKE i said, here in about
forty five minutes or, so they'll get, going all, right
so let's get back into the astros. Discussion AND i
mean we threw a little college football in. There Chris,
Gordy he's game for. Both so we'll talk with Old
gordatron here in Studio cursy At Carbach brewing for his
weekly visit here on The Shawn Salisbury Showy.

DAY i Mean, charles But i'm all over. THAT i
was gonna, say that's that's one to tune in.
Speaker 6 (02:07:22):
For and you know what you've missed About musburger is
if something happens in the game and you can definitely
tell that that's not the action that he had in the,
game LIKE i, remembered, well was It South carolina And
georgia were playing In South. Carolina tried an on site
kick And Terry godwin returned it and you could hear
it In musburger's call of and that is huge for
(02:07:44):
some out there because it hit the.
Speaker 7 (02:07:45):
Over there's three people and well there's a lot of
but three people that Will michaels will throw it in.
Speaker 4 (02:07:52):
Too he's the other. One It's.
Speaker 7 (02:07:53):
Musburger michaels and on A Sports center Show Bad, Beat
Scott Van pelt will make sure He scotty'll let you
What i'm. Doing, yeah they this jump did what his
bad beats is, Awesome but, Yeah musburger And Al michaels
are the key a sixty yard.
Speaker 4 (02:08:09):
Field this matters to.
Speaker 8 (02:08:10):
Some, yeah, yeah it.
Speaker 9 (02:08:12):
Got it got to a point In musburger, though where
he was even, like now some folks in the, Desert i'm,
okay we.
Speaker 4 (02:08:18):
Know exactly what you're. Said come, on we saw your,
notepad now we know your. Plays. Brin now you can
just flat as say. It, yeah, man you betters at,
home you on this.
Speaker 9 (02:08:27):
One Collins worth, chimeson, Well Pro Football focus has a
minus six.
Speaker 4 (02:08:31):
Here, exactly no doubt about it's stay or go kind
of deal, That.
Speaker 7 (02:08:37):
Gordy we had A dana ON i want to get
your stuff on. It we Had dana on yesterday, obviously
AND i get the hunch coming out of that that
it's your don or bust that if he doesn't play,
WELL i mean that they're they're throwing a whole load
on his, shoulder saying he's got to carry. It and
that's a tough task to have for a guy whos
been out one hundred days or. Whatever what do you
(02:08:58):
think about this? TEAMS i know they can turn it
on or, off but this is an average playing team right.
Speaker 8 (02:09:03):
Now. Yeah.
Speaker 9 (02:09:04):
Played so we did a box Cast ross AND i last,
night presented By Carbuck, brewing and we you, KNOW i, said,
look it's important we take a step, back like we're
in the moment right, now this is going, sideways but
take a step. Back let's take it from a real. Motion,
yeah and we realize every season there's a stretch like
this where they hit a little you hit rock, bottom
(02:09:24):
where it feels like this team ain't winning, jack they
making the, postseason they're trash all this. Stuff but just
a few weeks, ago in Fourth july, weekend they looked
like The World series champ sweeping The. Dodgers so it's
the ebbs and flows of a. Season this is rock. Bottom,
yes this is as bad as it. Gets we thought
when they got swept by The a's a few weeks
(02:09:46):
ago that was.
Speaker 13 (02:09:47):
It BUT.
Speaker 9 (02:09:49):
I, MEAN i just And dana's got the right. Mind
you've got.
Speaker 4 (02:09:53):
It you.
Speaker 9 (02:09:53):
Can't we've had so many fans throughout This houston right
when football Was king fifteen years ago here and Then
astros came back and it was a baseball town. Again
so many people brought the football mentality to, baseball where
it's two losses in a row and it's. Overreaction i'm
jumping off the. Bridge where's in? Baseball you can lose
six in a row and still win The World?
Speaker 4 (02:10:14):
Series but do the optics change it for?
Speaker 7 (02:10:16):
Baseball because there's slow and you waiting the next, day
the optics the drama of every single. Game do the
optics change your thoughts on The? Astros, well it can.
Go are you seeing enough to tell you that they
can turn it? Around like we're talking about, Again.
Speaker 4 (02:10:29):
Well that's What i'm.
Speaker 9 (02:10:29):
SAYING i just think like there's a chance they going
To baltimore this weekend win three out of? Four we
got oh, okay, okay, Yeah like so you're just waiting
for where's that moment Of, okay we're? Good what About?
FROMBER i, mean he's a head case right. NOW i
don't know. WHAT i don't know what's going on with. Him,
YEAH i MEAN i saw somebody tweet out yesterday like
basically The astros have to get great starts out a
(02:10:52):
hunter and Farmer valdas the rest of the. Way and
look at What fromber did. YESTERDAY i was that was a.
Mess he's had some of those moments where he has that,
inning that first inning where you're, like what the hell is?
This and then he settles.
Speaker 7 (02:11:04):
Down so the problem is settling down when you give
up six is hard to get back into the way
the team's.
Speaker 9 (02:11:09):
Hitting there's the way the team's sitting right. Now, yeah they.
Can't they can't score to save their.
Speaker 7 (02:11:12):
Lives so now IT'S i Need Hunter brown And Jason
alexander to really go out there and.
Speaker 9 (02:11:16):
Pitch, well, yeah isn't it crazy That Jason alexander is
the one that you're like counting. On, yeah, hey maybe
just talking about him going out. There and, now who's this?
Kid Brandon?
Speaker 10 (02:11:24):
Young?
Speaker 9 (02:11:25):
Whoever this is the kid had the no hitter going?
On ye just a week.
Speaker 4 (02:11:28):
Ago do you see him? Again? YEAH i see him
again the Night oh they?
Speaker 9 (02:11:31):
Do, yeah now now glass half? Full oh we just
saw this. Guy we, know we know what he's, got
we know his. Stuff we got the scouting report on. Him,
yeah you almost got no hit on that scouting. Board
he almost got a perfect gamed. Too, yeah, craziness so
we'll see.
Speaker 4 (02:11:47):
It but it uh so with, that how long do
you wait on FROM i mean from how long do
you wait on yourd on from?
Speaker 9 (02:11:55):
Here this that's their. Interest the eight team was kicking
out around. Yesterday so the plan was he played what
was that two nights? Ago last night wasn't off. Night
the plan is then play back to back In corpus
tonight and tomorrow so he can play back to back.
Games or feel good he comes out Of friday feeling. Good,
Okay DO i wake Up saturday, morning put him on
(02:12:15):
a plane first thing in the, morning send him To
baltimore to Play Saturday sunday with an off Day. Monday
or DO i, say, hey hang back, here rest, Rest
we'll hit the Cages saturday And. Sunday we'll get off Day,
monday and Then tuesday against The. Rockies you'll be right
here In. Houston that's the conundrum NOW wext seem to
(02:12:36):
think because the off Day. Monday, yeah send him up To.
Baltimore put him out There Saturday. Sunday he'll get his
rest Day monday again if he's going back to back today,
Tomorrow SO i really want him to go back to
back to back to, back you know WHAT i, Mean
so THAT i would lean towards keep him, here have
him Debut tuesday Against.
Speaker 7 (02:12:58):
Colorado judging from day To, Brown dan And gordy yesterday
WHEN i, said, well two for, four how much more
you got to see to get you to get him
here sooner than? Later let get the bets to major league,
level said, well we've come this far and this waited this.
Long you don't want to all of a sudden flip
the switch and, boom let's, go pop, thea you, know
pop the, capital let's go. Now my gut tells me they're.
(02:13:19):
Thinking see Against colorado at home against The, rockies chances
for him to. Rake you know what he does in this,
ballpark just even keep him off a, Plant just, relax you,
know treatment get it, going stay, away casual, swings warm
up a, little and get. Going the team needs, him
so that that's the kind of you're talking. About they need.
Speaker 9 (02:13:40):
Him what happens if you score zero, tonight zero, tomorrow
there's you're going In. Saturday dana is going get him
on a damn plane.
Speaker 7 (02:13:49):
Now, yeah and it won't it won't be a. Bit
it'll be one of those g seven twenty. Seaters, Okay,
jim they can get there.
Speaker 8 (02:13:56):

Speaker 4 (02:13:56):
Sent in a perfect, World i'd like to hold him
here Till.
Speaker 7 (02:13:59):

it here's a thousand, bucks you got.
Speaker 4 (02:14:04):
It AND i am a betting.
Speaker 7 (02:14:05):

had to bet, it my thousand will go towards his first.
Start we'll be back here Against colorado On.
Speaker 4 (02:14:13):
Tuesday i'm On, tuesday all, Right.

Speaker 16 (02:18:19):
On, oh good morning. Fellas, Yeah i'm having a tough,
go that's for. Sure. MAN i really, HOPE i really
hope this works out for. Us maybe it's just the
season and maybe hitting that summer. Wall but, uh these,
guys these guys had a twenty twenty. Game they will
get twenty games about five hundred for a, REASON i,
believe AND i just think. That, UH i think we'll
(02:18:44):
just snap bottom it hopefully soon sit, later but maybe
maybe these guys just need a night. Out they just
need a night. OUT i mean it doesn't have to
necessarily be you, know burning the bar down or anything like,
that or somebody just a night, out just a night
was just doing the doing their, thing poking fun at each, other.
(02:19:06):
Whatever it is just a night, out and they get
very little. SLEEP i got so much of fun that
got fairly three or four hours. Sleep they go to
the ballpark and watch them care the cover off the.
Ball i'm just, saying maybe they just keep their mind off,
it off of the awful grinding much, possible and just
(02:19:27):
try to try, that try that.
Speaker 4 (02:19:28):
APPROACH i, mean, YEAH i appreciate.
Speaker 8 (02:19:33):
It.
Speaker 6 (02:19:33):
ROGER i MEAN i guess you could kind of do
the Crash. Davis oh, man WHAT i wouldn't do for
a rain? DELAY i can get you a rain. Delay, well,
unfortunately it's hard to do a natural.
Speaker 4 (02:19:42):
DISASTER i Like. ROGERS i like where he's going with.
This just forget. It mark had a. Method oh oh,
yeah there is go big or go.
Speaker 7 (02:19:51):
Home, yeah the slump, buster get them grab yourself a,
mullion right is what They there's a couple of guys called.
Them but, ANYWAY i uh it's a great. Idea the
problem is in pro sports trying to get them all.
Together you could you like in the high school, team
the team. Meal you can college you say we're going bowling.
Today you know, There Pete. Carroll now during training, camp
(02:20:12):
you can take all YOUR nfl guys say here's practice.
Day we're all Going Bill walsh's dood Or Steve. Marytchi
they'd all. Go Steve young would tell me. This there
they'd have a practice so they, say everybody were going
swimming this. Morning so they'd hop in the pool and
have a blast and. Swim and it's, like take your
mind off and get A John, robinson Like i've told,
you would kick us off the field twenty minutes into,
Practice go get, rest get off. There there's different ways
(02:20:33):
to do, it to take away from the. Grind and
in my, WORK i just, think, okay now you. Could
but on the, road you're you're In, baltimore it's, like, hey,
guys we're gonna have that old team. Meal it feels high.
Schoolish BUT i kind of like high schoolish sometimes because
it's kind of a rallying. CRY i have beer AND
i do like. That just go to The Green bay
packers old school when former players walking. Through was It
(02:20:53):
Boyd dollar one of those that walking, through or maybe
it Was boyd who made the great, play but walking
through there gets in. Late it Wasn't, horning it was,
uh might have been somebody else walk in. There a
great story And i'll shorten, it but goes in, there
stays out all, night Super bowl week stays, Out championship
week stays out all. Night boom comes walking in the next,
(02:21:13):
morning had his buddies coming for, him comes walking in
the next, morning And Vince lombardi's in the, lobby but
he walks, up goes, There boom hung over a.
Speaker 4 (02:21:22):
Headache all of it.
Speaker 7 (02:21:23):
Goes, out AND i think caught two touchdown patters so
played his ass. Off Sometimes Michael jordan's sick game and
you know against The. Utah so sometimes a little change.
Up that's what kind of goes hand in hand With.
Rogerson stay the course sometimes no deviate from the, course
devate from the course due do something that, says you,
know what baseball is, important but tonight it ain't that
important to the. Meeting ain't That let's go have a
(02:21:44):
cold one or whatever it is you, do even if
you're not a drink or do you want to stay
out late at? Night you still want to go to,
bed anything that can get. You this feels like this
team and that's not a day's rest for one. Guy
it's kind of a just come to together and just
well and don't you dare talk about hitting while we're
having a cold beer or eating a dinner. SOMEWHERE i
(02:22:04):
don't know if it works In Major League baseball or
if that, happens but it's hard on the. Road it's
a little tough because everybody's kind of doing their thing
or seeing, family former, friends or if they're from there
with the high sc know how it. Is it stuff
Like Hunter brown going To, detroit, Right so it's it's
interesting AND i get. It But, rogers the direction is
definitely on of what can you do to take your
(02:22:26):
mind off the nonsense of this grip and grind that
you're going.
Speaker 6 (02:22:30):
Through, yeah just break up the monotony a little. BIT i,
mean just kind, of you, know remind, Yourself, hey this
can still be. Fun this is still a fun group
of guys that we really like being around and just
need to turn the corner and make sure that we're
around for a long for a lot.
Speaker 4 (02:22:42):
Longer if you've told me it's a long, season let's
let's and shorten. It thank. You, yeah that's the way
to do.
Speaker 6 (02:22:48):
It larry And, Stafford, Steve phil see you guys right
there working into the.
Speaker 4 (02:22:52):
Conversation you want to join?
Speaker 6 (02:22:53):
THEM a couple of lines open for you seven one
three two one two five seven ninety against someone three
two one two five seven nine Zero Shaan Salisbury Show
Spindle Tap.
Speaker 7 (02:23:02):
BREWERY i think it's the best brewery around and they've
done some great adding to.
Speaker 4 (02:23:09):
There go there with your.
Speaker 7 (02:23:12):
Buddies what's better than a hot day playing a new
pickleball courts and then grabbing a beer in the beer guarden.
Speaker 4 (02:23:18):
Outside they've.
Speaker 7 (02:23:19):
Extended they got their one inside and then they built
a new beer hall outside by the whiffle ball and
great pizza and the best brisket top, ramen brisket ramen
you've ever tasted in your friggin. LIFE a matter of,
fact they need to bottle that up and sell it
and put a wing of that. There phenomenal great, people
the brewmaster there And Brody chapman's got it going, on right.
Speaker 4 (02:23:41):
Man great.
Speaker 7 (02:23:42):
Beer whether you like A mexican, beer a local, beer
whether you like a SINGLE ipa or double. Ipa you
go in there and you grab, it and there's stuff to. Buy,
hell The Spindle tap, coffee in my, opinion is the
best Coffee i've, tasted and it's right. There and the
brewery is. Awesome LIKE i, said there's so many activities
for you to. Get but if you just want to
sit down and watch a game and drink a cold,
(02:24:02):
beer it's. There you want to throw a, party bring people,
over have one of those where you're having a party
or your celebration for your sales, staff whatever it might.
Be it's a great place to do. It and there's
also now the. Mocktails, yeah the. Mocktails, right that's a
little delta. Nine so you go to bed at, night
the shoulders hurt and you, SAY i want to sleep
well without with no, sugar no. Alcohol but that delta
(02:24:26):
NINE thhc that allows you to just kind.
Speaker 4 (02:24:28):
Of relax a little. Bit it's not a bad, thing
not a bad. Thing but if that's not, you cold
beer might. Be either.
Speaker 7 (02:24:35):
Way you like good food and the cold beer and
do it. Responsibly Spindle taps a place to do. It
the expansion's phenomenal yet it's got big, field but boutique
look nothing. Better and the people that are doing, it
there's no more quality and people who care about the
community As brody in his Group Southwest footballing far. Reaching
but one THING i do, know when you go, there
(02:24:55):
you will not leave. Disappointed go in there and grab
yourself a. Beer and if you want to go To
spindle T ap dot com and have it delivered to your,
doorstep you can do that, too whether you're here or
in some other. State Spindle, Tap Spindle Tap, brewery Spindle
tap dot.
Speaker 2 (02:25:08):
Com The Sean Salisbury show Continued.
Speaker 4 (02:25:14):
Larry And. Stafford what's going?
Speaker 8 (02:25:16):
On?
Speaker 10 (02:25:16):
Larry what's going?
Speaker 8 (02:25:18):
On? Bulldogs? Sean, HEY i WANT i want you gentlemen
to bear with me for a.
Speaker 16 (02:25:23):
While.
Speaker 8 (02:25:23):
MAN i Know i've been asking a lot of y'all
to have, patients but, UH i kind of ran out
of damn patience With, framburgh dumbass. Man look here here's the.
THING i never understood what people really truly meant when they, said,
uh you, know some of these athletes are mental, midgets
because it just never made sense to me to put
that connection. Together and WHEN i finally, did it made
(02:25:46):
me realize that they don't really they're they're really not
serious about the game when they mentally check out. Right
we watched Frambergh, valdez who was a who is a
a pretty damn good. Picture we saw him win A
World series game for us and help us win The World.
Series we've seen these, things but we've seen this dude
(02:26:09):
meltdown on the mound more than enough time that some
kind of evaluation has to be. Done first of, all
And i've said this multiple, times and it's kind of.
Funny if you take your dumb ass out on a
pitching mind wearing a weave as a major league baseball,
PITCHER i have no desire to believe that you're serious
about the. Game but then when you go out and
(02:26:29):
your team needs you to perform at a high level
in a game where they hadn't scored in twenty eight,
innings and you take your ass out there and give
up five before you get an, out there's something not
right with, You. Framberg and IF i Was Jim, CREEN
i would have moved his ass at the trade, deadline
even THOUGH i know we was winning and we went Down,
carlos but he is so unstable that you can't depend on,
(02:26:54):
Him and what is causing now is to have team
needers in the, clubhouse which never, worked and then you
have other guys that aren't, performing and then now it's
just a complete meltdown of what's going on with The.
Astros AND i know everybody, thinks what as soon as
they get your done back, there that's gonna change. Everything
i'm not in that, category, man because one of the
(02:27:15):
THINGS i know about, baseball it's a team, sport and
if everybody's not doing their, part it's not gonna be
that easy to get out of this, team. Man and
the thing about What i'm feeling with A spotty is
that he may not have the kind of flare That
Dusty baker had with but When dusty's seen this kind of,
stuff he had so much experience in the game that
(02:27:38):
he knew how to articulate to the team to shake
their ass out of. It you got to have some
leaders over, there and that's Why i'm.
Speaker 17 (02:27:44):
Glad they we Got carlos, back who can really get
in there and try to maybe help these guys understand
what's a. State AND i know they still in first,
place But i'm pissed off about, it Fellas i'm gonna
end it on. This my boys are up there In
detroit and this is going give them a real good
opportunity to play against a team that have CHAMPIONSHIP aspi racer,
(02:28:05):
too Because i'm A Dan campbell. FAN i didn't like
that whole biting the kneecap stuff or, whatever but that's
the kind of dude That Joe ans would want to play.
For and don't don't don't despair that he's an. Aggie
he's a dude's. Dude and as a as.
Speaker 8 (02:28:19):
A fan of, football seeing them two, Coaches demko And
Dan campbell put they squads out on the, team you
might just be getting a prerequisite to what we gonna
see In february in.
Speaker 6 (02:28:29):
A hall hilarry, NOW i mean that's it's what we
were talking about earlier about you, KNOW i don't like
to use the, cliches but you know it's gonna be said.
Today iron sharpens. Iron BUT i Mean demiko is in that.
Group remember after the first, season hearing guys talk, about oh,
man he'd be so fun to play. For love love
his energy out. There you could see his guys go for.
(02:28:50):
Him And campbell is that guy. TOO i mean you
hear his, speeches you see, him AND i mean he
looks like a guy that still could. Play SO i,
MEAN i think And demiko, TOO i MEAN i think
that that also adds to it where you're, like, oh
if he's telling me number one he, played but he
also looks like if he's gonna get out there and
try to show, me he can still show.
Speaker 4 (02:29:08):
Me there's a big difference between being flexible and being a.
Speaker 7 (02:29:14):
Pushover flexible is you make adjustments on the. Fly maybe
something you said to your team didn't work the way
he wanted or a, player and you got to make.
Adjustments that's what good coaches do, also but not getting
away from.
Speaker 4 (02:29:30):
What you've.
Speaker 7 (02:29:30):
Pulled When duka walked in, here you in order to
get the, job you build a plan says here's WHAT
i want to.
Speaker 11 (02:29:35):
Do.
Speaker 7 (02:29:35):
Now you're willing to adjust the plan along the. Way
because players, change guys come and go all, that you
got to be willing to adjust the. Plan the one
THING i think both these guys, have aside from, respect
is when you come down and lay the, gauntlet here's
how we're going to do it, here.
Speaker 4 (02:29:49):
You can't waver from. That it's like a.
Speaker 7 (02:29:52):
Rule rules for you and me got to be the.
Same NOW i want to treat the starter a little.
Bit akman gets treated different than the backup quarterback of
now you just Do Jimmy johnson will admit. It my
point is not on. Rules but you know, What akman's
not breaking. Curfew you can get my. Point so you
got to be. You you cannot be stars Get they
can do what they, want but you. Can't, now when
(02:30:15):
it comes to on the football, stuff the number eight's
gonna get a little more slacked than the backup.
Speaker 4 (02:30:20):
Is so it's the same.
Speaker 7 (02:30:22):
Here the one thing That Dan campbell AND i Think
tamiko ran says the same thing is here's how we're doing,
it and if you don't want to do it that,
way then we're gonna have to do something different for,
you not for. Us AND i think that's an important.
Thing we call players. Coach sometimes players coach is use.
Wrong players coach can be looked at as a pushover. That,
oh then we can kind of slack and put our
(02:30:42):
gear on during while we're stretching and be out to
the stretching line late because we're getting our tape. Job, no, no, no,
no it doesn't work like. That buddy that that's not
a players. Coach that's an idiot who allows everybody to take.
Over it's the one who here's the. Rules and while
we're out, here we're gonna laugh and have, fun but
we're gonna get down to.
Speaker 4 (02:30:57):
Business and that's the way we do.
Speaker 7 (02:30:58):
It AND i think What Dan campbell has completely changed
the whole thought we use culture a, lot has completely
changed the whole thought process about an organization that for
a long time was viewed as, eh, good good, players
but no. Winning and The texans have been through some
of that, themselves good times in some tough. Time because
there was a time When detroit When Wayne fonson That
(02:31:19):
barry was that they were going to the.
Speaker 4 (02:31:20):
Playoffs they were.
Speaker 7 (02:31:20):
Good trust, ME i know saw twice a year And
barry trying to Tackle Barry sanders is like trying to,
uh not not only find a needle in the, haystack
but find a piece of sand that's done a certain
piece of sand on the. Beach it was, tough but
when you did, it you had. Players but both of
these teams have the similar here's how we're going to do,
it and we're not going to waiver from. That will
(02:31:41):
Adjust we're not going to waiver from our beliefs and
who we. Are Dan campbell just lost the coordinator or
two both on each side of the ball of their
head coaches Jamaik O ryans had to get rid of
an offensive line coach and the. Coordinator different but the,
same if you know What i'm. Saying so make the,
adjustment don't let it. Fester but our the goal in
the end game is still the. Same if you get
to the, playoffs that's not. Enough See detroit always used
(02:32:03):
to think Of i've been on teams with like man
get to the playoffs and then you take a deep
side like it's, Okay and they did. That that wasn't
good enough For Dan campbe last year as good as
they were in the regular. Season so he's. Phenomenal and
as fromber, Goes i'm just gonna say it, here AND
i think it's just said for What larry Said November
fromber's not gonna be. It in my, opinion this Is
(02:32:23):
fromber's last go round. Here could you give him five
or six? Years, No i've already told you that for
thirty million a. Year absolutely not sobody. Else he's a
good player and he's got the potential would be. Great
got to get out of his own. Head can't get
sideways this often somebody's gonna pay.
Speaker 4 (02:32:38):
HIM i get.
Speaker 7 (02:32:38):
It so if he pitches, great you're gonna Price he's
gonna price himself out. Here if he doesn't pitch, great
it's gonna get to the point you, say CAN i
count on.
Speaker 8 (02:32:45):
It to be my?
Speaker 7 (02:32:46):
Ace so either way you're you're host. Frombers enjoy it
and hopefully it'll end in something. Big and if it,
does that means you get a world series. Ring hopefully
if everybody picks up the temple and he goes on
and get paid thirty million a year for six years
or five.
Speaker 4 (02:32:59):
Years, SORRY i can't do. That priced out in my.
Speaker 6 (02:33:02):
Mind by the, Way Troy, aikman you watch this Uh
netflix documentary Ball, Breaker.
Speaker 4 (02:33:07):
You do not have to tell me that.
Speaker 7 (02:33:08):
BROKER i have conversations that had been around. Him you
do not have to tell me one second about and
it's Ball breakers good sense of, humor but when it
got the business on the practice, field there was nothing
funny about.
Speaker 6 (02:33:19):
It he didn't want he didn't want to faffo with
that guy because you would find.
Speaker 7 (02:33:23):
Out do not get this idea that, oh mister, broadcaster pretty,
boy the first pick of the. Draft hall Of Fame
quarterback music. Stars i'm telling you, now, dude the wrong
guy to be lazy around or make excuses. Around he
would dress your ass down this day and, age too
many people couldn't handle. It they could not handle.
Speaker 8 (02:33:45):
It you.
Speaker 7 (02:33:46):
Know you know what abuse your? Ass that's called being a.
Leader you know what they call. That he ain't the
one to try, no as a matter of, fact skip
by him and go to somebody. Else, well that's one
of those. Guys you see he Say i'm gonna go fight,
him and he gets out of. It you, know you're
playing road rage and he pulls over to the side
and you get out of the car and you're, like oh,
YEAH i Think i'm gonna get back in and Go
my bad when it comes to there's a difference on the,
field and you got you got an?
Speaker 4 (02:34:06):
Argument are? You when aikman gets after, you you want
to stand up on the bench say who you're talking to?
Me matter of, FACT i actually am wrong guy to
to toy.
Speaker 6 (02:34:16):
With hant the One Stephen phil see you right. There
