come up here soon hopefully that that's what tells you,

guys aren't hitting, he'll continue to pitch around yord On.

So listen, we can make all we want. Oh, there's
some bad luck and walks Fromber. If Fromber's mental toughness
matched his physical skills and emotional toughness, you'd have a
guy done get beat. This team right now is very average.
They're not average talent wise, that they are underachievers at
the plate. It's an underachieving But this is you can say, now,

they may go get hot for twenty games. Honestly, we
know they may. We can say that about anything. We
can say the Colorado Rockies may get hot. This is
a talented team. The problem is not as talented in
the past, or this wouldn't happen, and they are at
the plate. This is an underachieving, undisciplined, the clutch genes
missing with people at the plate. It just is this year,

and we're so used to it being the other way.
It's like what and it's not. Oh it's over and
a woe is me and looks the sky's falling and
they don't have a chance. They still getting help from
their friends in Seattle. I mean, you know what I'm saying. Well,
it was still like what a game and a half
in front of first place? So which one of these
teams is going to come out of it first? I
just know this potential's great. I'll say it again. Potential

gets to a point where all the grind and grit
and all that gets to a point, but it's production
that matters, and right now they're not producing. This team
is not capable of winning a World Series or even
a playoff series with the way they're hitting right now.
And it's it's a lot, dude. I'm sitting here. I
was tooling around the house and had to get so
I had to do the show yesterday and I'll see

you turn it on And before I blinked, I'm like, what,
he didn't. I didn't have a chance to sit my

win it all, but you got to get out of
the homer mode if you're one of those, and just
judge them on baseball terms alone. I had a great
conversation with Chipper Jones yesterday, and one of the conversations
we had was what bothers him about. He says, it's
a hard watch for him now watching baseball, that he
the analytics, he gets, but he doesn't understand how, you

know why it's all Some people then think that's the
look at a number and a piece of paper. Some
guy who knows numbers, he said, and don't tell me.
And we were talking, I said, he said, don't tell
me that just putting the ball in play doesn't matter.
There's a lot more that can happen good for you
as a as a hitter when you put the ball
in play than when you strike out. So a strikeout
is not the same as a ground out. Now, the

resultings up the same, but the opportunity to do something
with it doesn't. And this is coming from a guy
who hit three sixty four one year and led the
league in average. Is I think the only guy right
now in history If not, it's what five hundred slug
five hundred, I mean a five hundred slugging percentage in
his career five hundred. It was the three five hundreds,

and he was almost five hundred home runs. The guys
I mean an eight time All Star and nineteen years
in his career, a Hall of Famer first pick. I mean, dude,
it's crazy when you go down the list and I
knew he was great, but do you started looking deep
in everything? I even asked him, I said, did you?
I mean, look at your career in your resume.

And when I introduced to him, I said, look at
your career and resume.

I said, you went from the first pick. Normally the
first pick of the draft doesn't go through and do
all this stuff. You know, you have a good year
in All Star. But he just knocking pins down all
the way. So he's got the average side where he
knows he dude, he had almost three seventy as a
guy who almost hit five hundred home run And when
he came into the league. We were talking about he
came in. He goes, Sean I could fly because he

was a wide receiver in high school. So he got there. Yeah,
when he got there, he said, Bobby Cox. But he
said what it was? Was it Bobby was this? Yeah,
he said, you're not gonna play much at first, but
you're gonna well get you're gonna play every day, meaning
whether it's pinch running the seventh year and he came in.
His first time was running the bases and his first
hit bat was a swinging bunt. That was his first hit,

I said, as a Hall of Famer ever, his first
hit of his career was a swinging But when we
were talking about small ball stuff, but he gets it,
he said that, you know, put the ball in play
with the runners.

Speaker 4 (08:37):
He gives you a chance and this team's just not
doing it.

And I said, it's OK. People should go listen to
it on you know, if you get a chance to.
But he just is the I gained perspective listening to
a guy like that talk baseball right. As much as
I love it, he's lived it for nineteen years of
it as a major league player and just diving into that.

So listen. We can love the Astros, but if you're
critiquing them properly, I'll be honest.

And I know Dana loves this team data round and
we know he does hand and he's very very Now
you may not like his answers because he has to
be the general manager, but if you sift through and
listen to what he says, while Dana believes in it
because he's helped put it together, the truth of matters.
I don't think deep down, just from my gathering the
conversation that I think he knows that there's gonna have

to be a few out of body experiences, This is
my opinion, a few out of body experiences with hitting
for them to be where they want to go. Your
non or not, dude, They're going to have to. But
this is not a good hitting team. They're a very
average at best hitting team. And the truth matters this
late in the season, it's not, well, you know what,
we still got time and they may get hot, and
if they do great, that still won't mean the other
one hundred and thirty games they were up and down

an average. They can go hot. Can they stay hot? See,
that's my problem. I don't think they're this season. They're
adept enough at staying hot for thirty games and went
into the playoffs and rolling through the playoffs. Good pitching,
the way this team swings the bat right now, good
pitching is going to beat them. It's going to beat them.
Good pitching for the Astros. You say, well, it's gonna

beat everybody. Well, unless, of course, Hunter Brown faces Scooble
and the other guy pitching is even gives you a
little bit better performance. You can win one a notoh
and know if they got good pitching too, you're in trouble.
This team is not going to win the World Series
because of their bats.

If they do, we will all be shocked. I don't
need to hear still Dre anymore. I mean, because I
heard that song enough in this Detroit series. They're they're
too easy of a team to pitch to right now.
Oh my gosh, it's it's very The book is wide
open on how to get these guys out. You have
a sleep, you have a slider, you have a sweeper,
throw it away and if you do that, they're going

to they're gonna offer at it. They're gonna swing and miss,
or they're gonna hit a weak tap at to third base.
It's not going to be anything of meaningful contact, but
still good at bats, some hard contact like that?

hard is our expectation is a little league. But unfortunately
hitting the ball hard right now when they do may
very well be.

You mean what they're capable of. You mean Christian Walker
getting the middle end fastball and then being late on
it for a line out. To write, well, yeah, that's
hard to clear, right.

I think we've we got Christian Walker's best baseball may
be behind him, So listen optimistic. But when all the
good when we're saying, look at it, and it's still
amazing that they're in first place, all the credit in
the world for what they've overcome. It is amazing that
they're in first place with all the injuries.

But you still can't take away once again, the guys
are getting paid. You can only we can only view
and judge the people that are on the field, and
the ones that are on the field are a very
average team.

This is they just are. They'll play good deal.

I'm talking about that to play this is right now,
and quite frankly, you can start to see. Let's not
just say the hitting fromber Valdez in the last four
or five starts has been just a guy. He's been
just a guy walking people.

I know there's some luck that gets into it. But
the truth of the matter is Fromber taking the matter.
We know what he's capable of, but I also know
what other guys are capable of that are underachieving Fromber.

They were four games out, they wouldn't make the playoffs.
They're fortunate they're getting you know what I'm saying, there's
that that's where they are because I'm not sure they
can get on the run. That just most people down
right now now when you're on one gets back. They may
and they're all capable. Yes, the production doesn't match the
capabilities right now, period. And if you can't, if that
hurts your feelings, then you're just gonna have to get

over it. Because this is a very average hitting baseball team. No, Sean,
look at the towel krip. I didn't say they were
an average talent. I said they were average hitting baseball team.
And that's exactly what they are. I even think that's
being Niceah well, I'm trying to be a little bit,

in the glass, just a little to know that we
got a chance. And I understand the whole world may

change when Yourdan's back in the lineup, the man alive.
Is that a big burden to put on one cat
who's been out? What if he all of a sudden
takes three or four weeks to get rolling?

Always talk about build up and let the guy get
hot and see it again and no offense. But corpus
Christy a major league baseball pitching Nope, So we'll go
find out real quick. And then how often is he
gonna play? Is it once every two or three days?
Once a day? Can he handle every day? Listen, you're
hanging on by a thread the way you swing the bat.

And in true sometimes fumes can get you to the destination.

and you put her out and get gas, by the
time the tanks fill up again, the season's over.

understand people's reaction and their skepticism whenever you know he
comes on with us, of it's always, oh we're in
the grind. Oh it's grit, it's all of these things.

It's make no mistake about it. Everything we all know
the Dana Brown being go guard. You also have to
give him credit twofold for not only one visit with us,
but also just his overall body of work. That's if
he says some things like that, don't just take it
with a grain of salt. Remember a couple of years ago, Sean,
I remember to visit you had and I remember it

very well because it was my first game back here
in Houston. I was at and they were funny enough,
playing the Orioles that day afternoon game, and you had
Dana on and you asked him how confident he was
about this team, and he said, this team's winning the West,
so I and he didn't stutter any of those things.
He said, this team is going to win the American
League West, and sure enough they paid off on it.

They did so a lot of times, his optimism it
is coming from an educated point of view, where he's like, hey,
I built this team. I know how this is supposed
to look. Yeah, this team is still good.

Listen, this is not old because he comes on because
I'll tell you yesterday and I knew going in and
I don't mean this like for us as a pat
on the back, but there was no way and they
do it every week, but yesterday was a little more
difficult because the way I'm sure for him, not for
me because I want the and for us, but because
of the way they've been playing right from trade deadline,

the way they've been playing. It's true, they it's just
and you know, he knew he was going to get
peppered yesterday. And you know, the grit, the grit, the
grit and final When when is a grit less important
than than production?

we were not very good. Hopefully we'll get better. But man,
when when Triple E's off vacation will be a lot better?

You know which we may be, and we will be.
But my point is is that what's listen. You may
not like the phrases he uses for his interview, but
one thing I respect more than you can ever imagine.
I have yet the only time he has ever said
something when he gets into that's the lineup, that's a
Joe a Spota, Or if it's something about umpiring that

I've asked, he goes o'shean knows the umpires. I can't
get into that stuff right, and for obvious reasons, because
the watch is wallet, You're damn right. So when it
comes to that, it's like, Okay, I get it, but
if you just see the forest through the trees and listen,
you'll you'll get it.

He can't say Christian Walker has been a has been
a disaster or at least not not living up to it.

and then back it up with it, well, do you
do you really think this is this team? What tells
you this team can hit? And he has to go

if you're just listening or see when your quotes after
I'm interviewed him, people like, oh, it's the same old thing.
But if you just listen he said, yeah, what is he?
How is he supposed to approach it? Would you feel

more comfortable as a fan? I see, I deep down
think that Dana Brown believes his team is going to
catch fire. Now I think he knows that he's not.
He's been in baseball a long time, what three four decades?
Dana Brown knows his team's not living up to the expectations.
He knows that, but he's still got to keep.

The optimism that it the that there's this thing, the
hint of it's going to turn around. Koreyas here, of course,
But I do give him credit for he's done.

Some judge him by the personnel decisions and that don't
judge him by his grit talk, because I'll find my
I'll sift through the grit talk. I get it because
I'm a I know what grit means. Grit's great, but
the grind, right, But if the grind gets you seventh place,
then guess what.

Great? But the grind didn't do a hill of bean.
So he gets that and I do too.

But we all have stuff we lean on, and I'm
listening to the other things when I interview him, is okay,
And I gathered The main thing I gathered from it
yesterday is a lot of injuries have set him back
and that they are counting one hundred percent that Jordan
Alvarez is going to turn the lineup upside down and
turn pitching upside it.

Whether that's going to happen or not is another hole,
another hole issue. Thing we'll deal with next week. If
he's if he's in a lineup. But while you may
not like the answers, we can all see it doesn't
take a baseball genius to know that this team couldn't
fall in, couldn't hit the ocean if they were sitting
in a boat three miles out in the deep water.

which they don't, are we cut them a little slack
for striking out more teams that don't hit the ball
out of the ballpark and their strike Because the Astros
have a history during this run over the last decade,
they don't strike out a lot.

They're middle to lower of the pack in Major League
Baseball this year for home runs.

Now, Jordon may change the power cog, but you know

be in baseball this long and not see their problem.
They are counting. Simply if you listen to that interview yesterday,

if you didn't go back and listen and listen to that,
not the grit and the grind, which is part of it.
GrITT and grind's great when you're went. Fans love to
hear that grit and grind it in your favorite when
you can't hit your way out of a wet paper
bag with a wet paper towel holding the wet paper bag.

hitting well, yeah, but we got grinding grit and he
just left it hanging there like you got to pepper
hum and make sure that he comes back and gives
us why grinding grit is gonna end up paying off
for them. They are resilient, but and they're still in
first place, which is all a high five for them,

it is, but you know what, none of us are
going to care about the grinding grit. When the season's over,
if they continue hit like, we're gonna simply say they
underachieved at the plate. And he I assure you, if
this continues, there go to work next year. And there
are certain guys on this team, and I don't need
to mention their names, that their job or their deal,
they're going to be in trouble. They just are money
or not Fromber's taking money out of his pocket even

though he's a premium left and he's still gonna get paid,
but he is, he is putting himself. And then yet
Hunter Brown could use a little help. You can't throw
up one run, no runs, two runs, three runs in
this As you start to get closer to good pitching
in the playoffs where every guy's good, you're your you'll,
you have no chance right now this team. I don't
get your World Series tickets out of town just yet,

because until they start to hit, it won't matter how
good they pitch. And yet the pitching, the bullpens taxed
and tired. The starting pitching has not been as good
as it was early, and hitting has been inconsistent. All
your flashes of brilliance and flashes of ass that's what
it's been, okay, And Dana knows that I loved I do.
Like I said, we can see you know grime, he

gets it. But Dan is a baseball guy. He's not
a broadcaster. He's a baseball guy. He may not even
be a wordsmith. But he's a smart guy who sees.
But he's got to believe in his team. Yet you'll
know how much they believe in certain guys as we
head down to stretch and find out who's hit and
wear and who's playing more.
