Speaker 1 (00:04):
Okay, let's do this.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Sewan Salisbury, the USC Truths, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.

Speaker 3 (00:14):
Bryan Lima, go Lobos. This is the Sean Salisbury Show.

Speaker 4 (00:22):
Ceedee Lamb got himself a new contract for the Dallas
Cowboys cites. Yeah, Texans are gonna make some money. Texans will.
Texans will also make some cuts. Yeah, tell you this
is this coming weeks.

Speaker 5 (00:35):
Tough week on those on the bubble, you know the
ones that are like, man, I'm gonna make it. Man,
it's tough, tough times.

Speaker 1 (00:43):
You know.

Speaker 4 (00:44):
We're gonna talk some uh got a lot of football.
You get a lot of football on the prep sheet.
We're gonna talk QB expectations, talk about Stroud, Mahomes, Josh Allen,
so forth and so on. Is there is there a
chance that Davis Mills is not the backup?

Speaker 5 (01:02):
Mills?

Speaker 6 (01:02):
Yeah, I mean gets traded. Yes.

Speaker 4 (01:07):
Are we really gonna sit here and say the case
Keenum is the backup? The reason why listen to next up?
Which is he the noon? Which is next up? It
is with Chris Gordy and or stand Northfleet and Chris Gordy,
Stanley and Chris and sometimes they were not sold on
the fact that Davis Mills might be the backup.

Speaker 5 (01:27):
No, I'm not either. I mean if if they don't
trade him, he's going to be a backup. But anyway
that'll be for the digress. I digress. But where would
you go if you wanted Millsey?

Speaker 7 (01:38):
Like?

Speaker 6 (01:39):
What team is like? Minnesota?

Speaker 5 (01:42):
Possibly? But didn't they just uh oh no they went
and got somebody, didn't thought they just signed somebody in Minnesota.
Go get somebody recently?

Speaker 4 (01:51):
Yeah, I think I did see that over the weekend. Yeah,
I'll find it. But I uh, if if he's here,
he's a backup. But if you're moving him, then you
trust case game is going to be fine. And that
boyle would what be your third quarterback? If you're keeping three?

Speaker 1 (02:08):
You know? So?

Speaker 5 (02:09):
I uh, I think he gives you a really the
better chance. Oh, Milik Willis there? You go?

Speaker 6 (02:17):
There you go? Oh somebody else where did Malik Willis go?

Speaker 5 (02:20):
Maybe he was? I thought I thought I saw somewhere else. Oh,
Milik will Is one of the Packers. He's going to
back up Jordan Love. Sure, I can't. I can't remember
who I thought. I thought I saw somebody went to Minnesota.
It's neither here nor there, right, But I'll dig through them,
we'll find it. Yeah. What I do know is that
having a solid backup is going to matter.

Speaker 7 (02:43):
Now.

Speaker 5 (02:43):
You hope you can play seventeen games, you do, you
hope it all. But even that guy who had a
great season lastly played fifteen of him in a regular season,
he missed too. I mean he's stroud anyway, right, So
do I trust the case Kam to hold down the
four for two games?

Speaker 6 (02:54):
Of course I do.

Speaker 5 (02:56):
Do I trust the Davis Mills gives you a little
long term, more long term success if you have to
play a full season like that. Yeah, I told you
Mills is going to be in the league like Keenum was.
If he wants a long time. You trust, you know, smart,
prepare the disruption. They come in. They can give you
some good minutes and good plays and didn't continue to

(03:17):
gather experience that you need a lean on. So I
don't know what's going to happen. I don't know in
that meeting room. Because you know, you can also go
back to last year when C. J. Strott did miss
who'd they start case and who was listed as a backup?
It was Davis Mills. That's exactly right. So that decision
sometimes you keep one and the other. It happened to me.

(03:39):
But I came back after I came back to Minnesota,
came back to camp after I was elsewhere and came
in and when More missed the last game, I had
to come in because I had just gotten there. Make
a long story short, is that Brian Billick, they had
turned to me last game a season to win the
playoff game. I mean to get into the playoff. Not

(04:00):
that Brad couldn't, because Brad's awesome. It was just against
that team, against the forty nine ers in experience, they
we needed to win and they just hadn't been in
the system for a long time.

Speaker 6 (04:09):
Meaning me, it was went in and we pulled. We
won the game.

Speaker 5 (04:13):
Point is that Warren couldn't play and we need to
get in the playoffs, and that even though somebody else
maybe listed the backup or it's in that situation. It's
almost like stending up a pinch hitter at times, who
do you trust in this situation a big moment at
that time when the other guy's really young and another
guy's been a league ten years. Right, So those things happened,
But for the long term, Mills is going to give

(04:33):
you a longer term success I think right now. But
I do trust that case Keenan can hold it down.
But Mills is here unless he gets traded, right I believe.
I don't think you're cutting him. No, no, no, no,
not at all. So it's just something that and it
may have to come into play man. Yeah, backup quarterbacks
all over the league coming to play. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (04:51):
And I know this is a big, big, big week
for teams. Like as we were getting off air yesterday,
there was a report out that John Metschi could be
traded or teams were acquiring about John Metchi and things
like that.

Speaker 5 (05:03):
So it is a big week.

Speaker 4 (05:04):
The Texans have a lot of talented players that may
not make the team and they could be traded or claimed,
so forth and so on. But we'll talk about the
NFL in the eight o'clock hour. We got a lot
to dig into. Seedney Lamb got signed, Jerry Jones coming
out ripping off f bombs. I mean, my goodness, Jarah Jones.

(05:26):
Ain't nobody doing it better than Jerry Jones. There you go.

Speaker 5 (05:30):
I mean, you can bring any gentle manager who's gonna
do a better job than him. Probably a lot. According
to jj okay to Jarah Jarah, that's just spelled j
e r u h Jarah.

Speaker 4 (05:41):
Jared Jones, he paid c D.

Speaker 5 (05:46):
He said, c D. Lamb's our receiver. Uh huh.

Speaker 6 (05:48):
He might be a quarterback and back dead come through.

Speaker 5 (05:52):
You know.

Speaker 6 (05:52):
He's over there from Foster High School.

Speaker 4 (05:54):
Foster High School right there, and he I love you
Richmond his dad Southwest?

Speaker 5 (05:59):
Are we? Are we Jerry Jones or George Bush? Which
would not get a dick? I think a little Oh
my goodness, yeah, Jerry, Jerry will GM me up. We'll
make sure you know about it too. Little F bomb
and good F bomb is good sometimes. Oh yeah, there's
no question about its. Every now and again you gotta
sling one.

Speaker 4 (06:18):
Yeah, I feel I feel you every now and then
Josh Hader gives up a walk off hit top.

Speaker 5 (06:24):
Yeah, that's just to see. My whole thing is one
guy who's a clutch player got the best of another
guy who's a closer. That's just it's a hell of
a matchup coming to the plate. The problem is when
he I think it was was it the walk to
uh yeah, prior to Trey Trey Turner. He walked Turner

(06:47):
who was a good at bat by Turner hammered a
few foul Listen, you're gonna lose those sometimes they should not.
He struck out the side emphatically in the ninth inning
and comes, you know back in the I'd have brought
him back to and you know, it's one of those
things you give. You put a guy on second in
the tenth inning, which sucks. And this remember I told

(07:09):
you it was gonna happen to the Astros at some
point after it happened, it's going to happen. And then
you walk a guy, which you first base is open.
That really that wasn't the problem. In truth, first base open,
what's a big deal. I know that. And it's the
bottom of the tenth inning. So a one run d
that the other one didn't matter. So anybody said, well
you can't walk a guy first base was open, that
was no big deal. I mean, once you're setting up

(07:30):
the double play anyway, you know without you know, the
the routine double play if it's a ground ball. So
I personally didn't have a problem with the walk. If anyway,
no one Harper's on deck. Now the problem, and truth
is Harper has struggled the second half of the season.
Unlike him, he's not had his best second half. But

(07:50):
we know what he's like. He's money under clutch situation.
But listen, if you're throwing pumping at ninety seven ninety
eight and Harper comes up struggling, I don't mind a
lefty on lefty matchup, and he put.

Speaker 6 (08:01):
It one out there and he squeezed it through the
right side. What are you gonna do?

Speaker 5 (08:04):
Diving attempt at second base and h and obviously Schwarber
came and scored. That's just a World Series caliber team
getting beat by a World Series caliber team with two
monster players, one on the mound, one at the plate,
and one got the better of him. Yeah, there's no bitching.
There's not. The guy's been phenomenal aside from win situations,

(08:25):
in safe situations, he's been really good.

Speaker 6 (08:28):
With the score tide. You should have kept him in.

Speaker 5 (08:30):
He's your best, and Harper just beat him. Hence why
the guy makes about thirty million or whatever he's making
a year. Happens happens. He might have maybe he said
we I'd like to I wouldn't like him to get
a little less fat part of the bat on it.
But Harper strong and he pulled it to the right
side and got through. What are you gonna do? In truth,
what are you gonna do? That guy's getting paid to

(08:51):
and he's pretty damn good, So I honestly, the bitch,
we can go back through the game. Rojas is catching
the right field, you know earlier to me to give
them an opportunity to come and take care of this.
I mean, there's situation. It was a hell of a battle,
a hell of a battle, some good pitcher hitter at
bats and then you know what, he just got the

(09:11):
best of them.

Speaker 6 (09:12):
Everyone.

Speaker 5 (09:13):
We can't find a oh my gosh, this sucks reason
to bitch or reason to brag and tell him how
great that every game. There are games that come along
when the other dude just got you. You take the
l an all star type pitcher against a great hitter,
and you put the ball and play and went through. Listen,
two feet to the left. It's scooped up by the
second basement. First guys out, and there's runners now at

(09:36):
second and third, and the runner second still doesn't matter.
So you're hoping then you can get two outs or
you walk the guys and then you got it right.

Speaker 6 (09:44):
Then sets up the double play.

Speaker 5 (09:46):
Hey Harper, Now if you want to make the argument,
well walk Harper to no, because the guy coming up
next is a right hander who has got damn near
ninety RBIs and is leading the team and runs back
it in and has been a monster all you're in
Boom yeah, bumps swinging it really well, that's right. So
to me, you went with your best, They had their best.

(10:06):
You got beat and I don't. The rest of it.
You're not gonna complyw hatter sucks how we're gonna You're
gonna lose some in Philadelphia.

Speaker 6 (10:14):
There's no shame in this one. You hate to lose it.

Speaker 5 (10:17):
But that's again going back to why this tenth inning
rule and extras suck. Yeah, because if that's the case,
now there's runners. I don't think Trey Turner gets the
third on that ground ball. I don't think he tries
to no. So if that, if there's no runner on,
now there's first and a second, and you're still you
can still afford another ground ball. Now we still set

(10:37):
up the double plate and make it out of it.
But rules are rules, and they set this nasty, s
dumb ass gimmick rule and you get you're on the
right side of it sometimes and you're on the crappy
ass side of it another time. But if you're gonna
tell me you got beaten out, they bring in a
guy who's hitting oh ninety seven, and you throw them
a pitch that he that he can barrel up, and
you said, then shame on you. He just got beat
by by a guy who's done that to a lot

(10:59):
of hit pitcher over his career.

Speaker 4 (11:00):
And plus when you look at the top of the
tenth inning, the Astros had Bregman Alvarez Diez and got
nothing out of it.

Speaker 5 (11:06):
Nothing.

Speaker 6 (11:07):
Your star's got to perform, and sometimes they don't.

Speaker 5 (11:10):
And when a guy struggling in the second half the season,
meaning for his normal numbers, Bryce Harper, but at some
point time, at one swing gets him out of it.
And I'll tell you what. Maybe this for Harper, it's like, oh, hell,
he's about to go Haywire. Now who knows. But you
know what, if I'm gonna get beat let me throw
a pitch, let me get beat by, let me get

(11:31):
beat now.

Speaker 6 (11:31):
I hate to get beat by their best player, right, But.

Speaker 5 (11:34):
In that situation, you had to throw and pitch to
your best player in Harper, and hope that left he
lefty and the way Hater's been going is gonna get him.
And after watching the ninth inning, there was no indication
that told me he ain't gonna get out of the tenth.
But it happens, man, And sometimes there's a handful of
loss of you. You just say, hell of a battle.
Tip your hat to a really good team and a

(11:54):
better player got me on this one.

Speaker 4 (11:57):
Yeah, and tip your cap. Really good bait. And sometimes
you just don't win.

Speaker 5 (12:01):
And you know what, if it's two days from now,
this situation may represent it. I mean, you know, put
itself in the same position and represent itself.

Speaker 6 (12:13):
If that's a word, it is near its head again.

Speaker 5 (12:16):
Yeah, and Hater make go bingo, bengo bongo, strike him out,
go upstairs, strike him out, and he wins that battle.
Harper got him and that happens, And it was a
hell of a game. It tells you now that there's
two teams they're going to have an opportunity to be
playing for the whole thing.

Speaker 4 (12:32):
Right, those are two good baseball teams. It could very
well be a World Series preview. All right, let's continue
to talk about the Astros loss. Just how good has
Josh Hater been since July ninth? I got the numbers
here in front of me. They are impressive. That's next
a Sports Talk seven hinty.

Speaker 6 (12:47):
This is Craig Bugio.

Speaker 8 (12:50):
You're listening to Sean Salisbury on Sports Talk seven ninth.

Speaker 6 (12:56):
You're home with the Stros.

Speaker 4 (12:57):
Since July ninth, he's allowed three hits and three earned
runs in nineteen appearances. The hit off of Hater last
night was just the second hit that josh Ader has
allowed this month. We're it's August twenty seventh, and that's
across the span of forty batters.

Speaker 6 (13:19):
The run that scored is unearned.

Speaker 4 (13:21):
So Josh Hader still has a zero zero zero ERA
in eleven August appearances.

Speaker 5 (13:28):
And his first eleven pitches all strikes. Boom boom, boom,
boom boom. I think it was a twelfth pitch. He
finally threw a ball. It was up and out of
the strike zone. The guy was listening.

Speaker 6 (13:40):
Got hit by a pretty good player.

Speaker 5 (13:42):
Yeah, what are you gonna do? Sometimes it happens, man, Right,
So I've got there's no bitch here about ah Hater.
He should have come out for the tenth inning. We
complain all the time about why are we so specialized
that we can't bring a closer out for six outs?
Well we've seen it now, hater's done this twice. And
about the live last.

Speaker 4 (14:01):
Three weeks or two weeks, thanks, two or three weeks.

Speaker 5 (14:03):
Yeah, so I got no issue the fact and the
only issue he got is it Bryce Harper is a
bitch to get out under pressure.

Speaker 6 (14:10):
It just is the hell of a player.

Speaker 5 (14:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (14:12):
And of course the Manford man, the ghost you put
the you know what, Yeah, you us just let's just
put a runner at second base for free? Yeah, because
you know why dumbest rule in sports man, Hey, why
do you start that rule a little?

Speaker 5 (14:28):
Uh, Bobby Manford? Well, we felt that if we played
a little bit longer that the COVID bugs spread more
at ten thirty than it does at nine thirty. Yeah,
COVID's got a curfew man. Well at there at one point,
we became the dumbest country in the world. We really did.

(14:49):
We became the dumbest sheep in the world. Yep, well
speak for some okay, but I just I just don't
get wrestle. But look what it's done to Beate screwed
up the Astros victory last night. What a bit of victory.
See I got that back to It all comes back
to the ghost runner.

Speaker 6 (15:09):
Just put it. Just put a runner at second for
free to start xterrating. I think that's what you Don't
make them run it, just stick him there.

Speaker 4 (15:15):
Hey, kept Josh haters right now because that's on it.
That's an under and run.

Speaker 6 (15:18):
Yeah, a lot of player haters out there. Shock it
up to Bob Manfred.

Speaker 9 (15:25):
Run.

Speaker 5 (15:25):
Yeah, that's what it's on. Bobby stupid.

Speaker 4 (15:27):
It is on Bobby so dumb seven one three, two,
five seven ninety. Let's get out to the phone lines
talking to Astros. What's going on?

Speaker 5 (15:35):
Brandon?

Speaker 1 (15:36):
Good morning, Brian, morning, Sean, how you good morning?

Speaker 5 (15:39):
We're well, thank you, sir.

Speaker 10 (15:43):
I should not wish to not play the Tampa.

Speaker 5 (15:45):
Any you you don't want to play extra innings? Brandon? No,
So what do you want to do? And in a tie?

Speaker 6 (15:54):
No, she said?

Speaker 10 (15:56):
Astro said, head home one up there, closer.

Speaker 5 (16:01):
They should have a right to win it in the nights.
You don't have to go to the tenth. Brandon's onto
something here. Okay, seeing Brandon's video game, I'll guarantee that
Brandon wins that in the ninth inning, you didn't even
go to extra andy, Am I right? Brandon?

Speaker 11 (16:14):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (16:15):
Dog gone right.

Speaker 4 (16:16):
See Brandon, are you playing on a PS five or Xbox?

Speaker 5 (16:20):
Yes?

Speaker 6 (16:20):
Five, That's what I'm talking about. It's the style, is there?

Speaker 5 (16:23):
Is it? What's the m v P of the X
of the Box of Machines P five, it's PS five
to the MVP. Indeed, Hey, I got one out.

Speaker 1 (16:33):
I got one out right now.

Speaker 5 (16:35):
Yeah, that's an early wake up call. Your game's early
this morning. We had a little six twenty five game
going on. Brandon. What's wake up in the morning?

Speaker 10 (16:44):
I don't know.

Speaker 7 (16:45):
I just.

Speaker 6 (16:47):
I don't know. When you wake us?

Speaker 5 (16:50):
Pop say it's time to play a video baseball game,
and you get going right now? Like your style, man
straight to it. Appreciate the call, Brandon. Hope tonight. Yeah,
hopefully Brandon's right. The winning expert winning nine innings, not ten.
Thanks Brandon. There you go. I like it like Brandon style, dude.
I mean he he pops out of bed, good break,

(17:11):
he's got a Hey we got ourselves. I like his
early get that game in early bed. What time you
wake up?

Speaker 6 (17:20):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (17:20):
I just start playing video games. Well, whenever I decided
to roll out and start. I got a game to play,
six fifteen. I love it. Start Chris, love Brandon.

Speaker 4 (17:30):
What's happening, Chris, Yeah, guys, good morning.

Speaker 12 (17:34):
I just you know, I know a hater's done really,
really well when he comes out for one inning, But
my memory just it doesn't vote well when he comes
out for more than one. I just wonder what that
record is. I know he didn't do it in San
Diego because he was protecting his arm against injury for
the big contract. So I just I don't think he's

(17:54):
done that great when he's come out for that second inning.
But you know I didn't.

Speaker 6 (18:00):
I didn't see it.

Speaker 12 (18:01):
But the way you described it, Sean, if you mowed
him down in the ninth inning, I mean bring him
out in the tenth.

Speaker 6 (18:07):
Yeah, he struck out the side of the ninth man.

Speaker 5 (18:09):
You had to bring him out in the tenth in
that game, and especially with the heart of their order
coming to the plate and him moment you you had to.
It didn't work out the way he wanted it to, unfortunately,
But that's Bryce Harper. He's pretty good. You know, what
are you gonna do? You're gonna get bid sometimes.

Speaker 1 (18:24):
Yeah, you described it perfectly.

Speaker 12 (18:25):
I mean, you know, it's our best against their best,
and uh, you know we'll get him next time, so
we can't really fall to spot at too much. But
I just don't think haters record is all that great
when he comes out in the second inning. A couple observations,
real quick, Pina, let's stop making the errors. Our defense
is not doing all that great. Jordan looked like a

(18:47):
guy who has been sitting for four games. So hopefully
he'll be back tonight and back to his regular self.
But the positive that I took away Shane Wickham, right,
MVP of the game, guy that he's he scored the
two RBIs you know he last night got the only
two runs for us, and he looked really comfortable and

(19:10):
really good at second second base last night playing for
Josel two A. So that's an encouraging thing. I think
that happened last night. That was my takeaway from the game.
You guys have going, Thank you, Chris.

Speaker 2 (19:21):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (19:22):
Speaking of the Jeremy Paynia error, that was Payinia's third
air in the last four games, we gotta we gotta
figure that out. Stop making airs. Yeah, that would help
the airs in four games.

Speaker 5 (19:41):
Yeah, which is not like him right, and one of
Dana Brown will join us tomorrow. One of his constant
talking points is we catch the ball pretty well on
defense and listen, it's those little things that happen right
in a game that.

Speaker 6 (19:58):
Did lead to some problems. And it was a it
was a classic battle.

Speaker 5 (20:03):
I mean it was an MLB I camera, who was
I watched last night mL It was on MLB network too, right,
wasn't it was a game?

Speaker 6 (20:11):
This game was on Fox. It was FS one. There
you and.

Speaker 4 (20:14):
Afterwards it was the Mariner's Race.

Speaker 5 (20:16):
FS one and the broadcast. I mean it was a
playoff playoff atmosphere, crowd was rocking. Yeah, you could. The
broadcasters were in it as if it was playoffs. Talk
about classic matchup. It was Listen. Sometimes you're gonna just
I mean, when the when the Chiefs play the forty
nine ers and some guy just makes a play, makes
you got guy miss who's another pro bowler?

Speaker 1 (20:39):
You know?

Speaker 6 (20:39):
Kelsey makes a catch in traffic? What are you gonna do?

Speaker 5 (20:42):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (20:42):
You Travis Kelsey. Yeah, he's a good player. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (20:46):
Just like if all of a sudden, Hater strikes out
Bryce Harper, are we gonna go to Harper? Sucks? You're
gonna say, no, a good, good pitcher who's been on
a massive role got him.

Speaker 6 (20:57):
Yeah, I'm trying. I am the little things.

Speaker 5 (21:00):
But there, once again, there's always the the air, the
stuff you're doing inside games that why do we get
to two two to two?

Speaker 6 (21:06):
And how did we lose three to two?

Speaker 5 (21:09):
But the end result, the journey to get to three
to two, there's more ways to be critical or complimentary
than it is just the simple fact that me versus
you man on man and he got me, and he'll
get and you know what, hater will get him at
some point as well.

Speaker 6 (21:23):
Yeah, other than that, we dissect the rest.

Speaker 5 (21:26):
But no problem coming out in the tenth for a
second inning, and no problem with what he had got
beat by by a future.

Speaker 6 (21:34):
Hall of Famer jose Al Tuve. Didn't start last night.
He needed rest. Didn't he get rest a couple of
days ago.

Speaker 4 (21:41):
Yeah, let's let's get into it, because I have a
philosophy for here on down the stretch.

Speaker 5 (21:51):
The Marriors aren't going to go away. The Astros are
only up three and a half games now.

Speaker 6 (21:54):
The pitching is gonna keep him in it.

Speaker 5 (21:56):
You have to have your best mariners, right, they will
They got a good form us last night. Yep.

Speaker 4 (22:01):
You have to have your best players in every single
game from here on out.

Speaker 6 (22:07):
He needed a quote unquote breather.

Speaker 4 (22:09):
Let's let's talk about it next because I know I
know where you stand on on rest and things like that.
Let's talk about that next on sports Stock seven ninety.

Speaker 5 (22:15):
Hey, guys, let's talk about Southwest Football League s f
L t X dot org. We'll give you the brass
tax about when you got your kid and go there,
go get the app first of all Southwest Football League app,
but also s fl TX dot org where you can
get all your information about no cost to parents. When
you talk about the and the leagues are great because

(22:38):
you got the the grades where it's third and fourth
get to play they're six man. Then the next age group,
the fifth and sixth graders get to play you know,
eight man football, and then the seventh and eighth graders
got you playing eleven man football. But it's the coaching
and it's the mentorship, and it's the teaching that does
it right because and no cost of parents and for

(23:01):
the sophomore in junior meaning the younger group of players,
no cost to you in padded pants helmets, shoulder pads.
The gear's free. So if you get great coaching and
great teaching, and you get people who want to mentor
you the proper way and give you a cheap cost,
because those pads, that's a thousand dollars minimum savings these days.

(23:21):
Go in and go buy the top pads and helmet
and come see me how much cost. Southwest Football Leagues
providing that as well as scholarships, so your children can
go get taught by the best, the Malcolm Butler's of
the world, who's a super Bowl hero, and have an
opportunity to grow and understand their love and passion for football.
Do it the right This is where you find where
their passion is. So you better get to a good league,

(23:43):
a league that makes a difference, that cares more than
just hey, man, sign up. Here's what it costs. And man,
we're making money off you. Now, this isn't a money grab.
This is a make your kid better grab. When they're
giving you free equipment and offering scholarships, you know it
ain't about the money. And I know the people in
this league about making your kid better. Southwest Football League
s f L t X dot Org s f L

(24:06):
t X dot dot org. If you want to get
taught by the best at an early age, this is
the time to do it.

Speaker 6 (24:12):
Southwest Football League s f L t X dot org.
The Sean Salisbury Show continued. I think Jose called. Jose
did call.

Speaker 5 (24:23):
He's called before, But no he did not, because when
you whenever we like talk about the rule at second base. Yes,
Jose is looking for a reason to call without colleague.
He's got to come. He wants to complain. I think
he's gonna call the boss. Let me tell you his
name's Eddie or Brian. They're going to be shot. Don't
give me these guys you call them. Nobody made fun

(24:44):
of COVID. We made fun of the stupid, the the
the the people who sold you a certain bill of goods.
Didn't we get proven that social distancing was fake okay,
and that the mass didn't work.

Speaker 6 (24:55):
Correct.

Speaker 5 (24:55):
You didn't even say that, So, Jose, if you want
to go alls, I simply said, was to tell me
that a germ flying through the air hits harder at
ten thirty at night than it does at nine thirty.

Speaker 6 (25:05):
And I'm obviously And it was a joke. Yeah, it
was all tongue in cheek.

Speaker 5 (25:07):
But if that bothers him, stay tuned. I got more
for you, Okay, So Jose here, you can send it
to here, right here, to me complaint. You can send
it to this right down the line, because they'll probably say,
you know what, Sean was just talking baseball and the
rule sucks having somebody in the tenth inning on second base.
And quite frankly, COVID sucked too. It did, and it

(25:29):
sucked in a lot of ways. It sucked when you
got it because I don't know about I had it.
I had it. I know it's like to go twenty
some days without without taste breathing and the breathe. I
get it. Nobody was saying that shape. We all know
somebody's somebody who got sick or may have lost somebody.
Nobody say anything about that. We said to change a
baseball rule because of COVID's idiotic, That's all I'm saying.

Speaker 6 (25:49):
Ain't though it wasn't the COVID.

Speaker 5 (25:50):
It's the people, okay, some of the people, and all
the gas lighting and all that stuff. So nobody's getting
into that. And if you can't take a little bit
of a being over a rule, and COVID as we know.
Quit telling me that being in by midnight's going to
prevent COVID from hit you yet.

Speaker 6 (26:08):
Stupid?

Speaker 5 (26:08):
Okay, So nobody said anything about well, making fun of
somebody like I had it and it was miserable. Okay.
But if you're asking me if if there was parts
of it that we got sold a bill of goods,
which those guys that sold it to us said, so yeah,
so say that I didn't saynything about the sickness of COVID.
Anybody who went through it was miserable. Okay, anybody's going

(26:30):
through it miserable. But I can tell you this, the
rule sucks. The rules shouldn't have been made, and the
rules should have been changed. Okay for tenth innings. It's stupid.
It's not real baseball. It's a gimmick. Yeah, and that
bothers you. Jose to tomorrow. I'll have something even better
for you about it. Okay, good gracious tomorrow.

Speaker 6 (26:48):
And can we laugh a little bit?

Speaker 5 (26:49):
Oh yeah, I know, especially at six thirty in the morning,
something to laugh at. Yeah, you know what sometimes it
is when we look back and say, you know, and
we're not laughing at what happened to somebody but sometimes
like a comedian.

Speaker 6 (26:59):
Does or somebody.

Speaker 5 (27:00):
And I don't know about you, but when when stressful
situations that my family grew up, we like to laugh
about get through it all. So my laugh is your problem?
Then you'll tell you then hose answer you problem? Dog?
All right?

Speaker 6 (27:13):
Josie's you problem?

Speaker 5 (27:14):
All right? So and once again I can say it louder.
It was pathetic. All right.

Speaker 6 (27:20):
There you go, speaking of host tomorrow.

Speaker 5 (27:23):
If you want to come on here today, we can
have a good conversation about on the air. But I
can give you I can give you the boss. You
got the boss, just call them all. But Sean made
fun of second base of COVID and so they can
get a good smirk out of it too.

Speaker 6 (27:35):
Geez, I'm going to tell you what society has got
to hang on?

Speaker 5 (27:40):
Hang on? Whoa he said something about the second basin.
It was not that the germ wasn't in the air
at ten as opposed to nine. Yeah, that's exactly what
I said. It also costs people livelihoods that we shouldn't
have shut down and lives because we didn't do it right.
So save it now, Mail, you could kiss my griance.

(28:01):
There you go, speaking of Jose.

Speaker 6 (28:05):
Conseco. No, did you did you see?

Speaker 4 (28:07):
Oh my gosh, speaking of well, we'll talk about Jose.

Speaker 5 (28:11):
This Jose gave you a chance to get off the
beat path to talk about something other than sports.

Speaker 4 (28:15):
You see, did you see the video that Alex Rodriguez
put up on Twitter of him like explaining like his
process of hitting and things like that.

Speaker 5 (28:24):
There's a lot of things about Alex Rodriguez, Like if
I want to know how good Alex Rodriguez is, you
know what, they'll.

Speaker 6 (28:27):
Just ask him, ask him.

Speaker 4 (28:29):
Okay, so let me let me find this real qui
because Jose Kenseco is the biggest old dude.

Speaker 6 (28:33):
He crushes Alex Rodder.

Speaker 4 (28:36):
Okay, so this was on August twenty third, so about
four days ago. A Rod he's in front of his
badass pool and he's got a bat in his hand,
and he basically explained, no, sure on, he's got a
ball in his hand.

Speaker 6 (28:49):
He's doing all these little things.

Speaker 4 (28:50):
You know, he's got little effects with his video blah
blah blah, and uh, Baseball's greatest moments. It's a big
Twitter account. They retweeted and said, a Rod explaining how
to hit home runs. Listen up, Jose quote tweet and
he said he forgot to mention the weekly injections that
he is he is the biggest troll, one of the

(29:12):
biggest trolls on Twitter, like it is absolutely the guy
that won't let anything go though. Yeah he will not,
he will not. It is hilarious. Joe Cansko, Man, he
gets after it. He's gotta, he gotta. He got a
little bone to pick with a rod doesn't he bothered
by it? Yeah, he always he'll always uh, he'll always

(29:33):
tweet something and he'll say good morning to everyone except
for you know who he's talking about.

Speaker 5 (29:37):
Oh yeah, It's like it's like he's just hanging around.
Wait for the second a rod tweets, He's like sees it,
he gets a notification. Let me know when a rod
tweets so I can jump all over it. Yeah, funny stuff, yes,
Jose josef Uh sorry, I was whispering to Tripoli.

Speaker 4 (29:55):
Don't get weird, Jehan, don't don't be weird about it.

Speaker 5 (29:58):
That's how we that's how we talked to our are
pretty sure on the other side of the glass. How
you doing?

Speaker 7 (30:03):
You know?

Speaker 4 (30:08):
All right, let's all right, now.

Speaker 5 (30:10):
We gotta talk about we gotta talk about load management.

Speaker 4 (30:13):
Correct, Jose Altove needed a breather. According to Joe Aspata,
how do we feel about it? Seasons coming down the stretch.
Mariners are not going to go away. Let's discuss it
next right here on Sports Talk seven.

Speaker 5 (30:25):
Nighty You're back.

Speaker 6 (30:29):
This is the Sean Salisbury Show. Get back at it.

Speaker 4 (30:33):
Astros losing that game last night, Jose al Tove did
not start. Jo Aspata said, quote, Jose just needs a
breather end quote. I just feel like as we get
closer to October and the division being as close to

(30:57):
as it is, the Mariners back three and a half
half after they won last night and the Astros loss,
you need to play your best players every single game.
Spot also said that al Tuove just needs a day off.

Speaker 6 (31:11):
He wanted.

Speaker 4 (31:11):
He wanted to do it in Baltimore, but injuries to
Bregman and Altuve meant it had to wait. A spot
of sad. Quote, I've asked a lot of Jose this year,
and he just needs a little breather end quote.

Speaker 5 (31:20):
So he said, he asked Jose, and Jose took the
time off Aslada didn't tell him to. He asked those
if he wanted to play, and he said no, no,
you're telling me no.

Speaker 4 (31:28):
A Spot has said al Toove needed a day off
and he wanted to do it in Baltimore, meaning a
Spota wanted to give him the day off in Baltimore
but couldn't be cause injuries. Correct.

Speaker 5 (31:41):
I'm assuming that if he'd have said, Jose, I want
you in the lineup. We don't have time for days
off right now, that he'd have played, right, I would think. So,
I'm assuming, knowing his career and what kind of competitor,
this is not on the player, and let now, if
the player begged out of it, I would probably have
a little bit of an issue. Unless he's sick, hurt

(32:03):
and he's going to get me fifty percent, it's going
to hurt the team. Of course, guys have injuries or
flu or sick or can't go and and just aren't
all there. I get it now, if you're not all
there sometimes mentally guess what you had to do. Suck
it up and go yeah, yeah, you just do battle through.
That's just part of it. But I don't know, we're
not I don't live with Jose, right, I don't know.

(32:25):
I don't know what's going through his mind. But if
it's a manager decision, an organization decision, I know it's
along here I do. I'm sorry, I'll never agree with this,
and maybe it's just and we all and if I'm
not mad at somebody who looks at it different, But
for me, with what we have thirty games to go,
thirty plus games, it was a little over thirty.

Speaker 4 (32:46):
Yeah, I think it's just a couple of days ago
thirty five so yeah, probably around there.

Speaker 5 (32:50):
Thirty plus yeah, I I honestly, I'm all. My guys
will only take a day off if they're if they're soreness,
you're not feeling well. I left time. I don't. I
know it's one game and I don't know if it'd
have made a difference last night, but it bothers me. Now.
I think Joe's done some good things. It's okay to

(33:12):
disagree where I how I have been well, you know,
guys got to have rest, do they do you? It did? Honestly,
I can even get once in a while, I guess, Brian,
you know, maybe it's selfish of me because I'm not
in that, you know, I jen I've played a different
sport right where we play once a week and it's

(33:33):
gonna be you beat up and you need once twice
a week. You never get through. But I know they
play every day. It's a long ass season, and some
think it's too long. I also know that you go in.
You don't fly into town and leave right away like
an NBA. I mean you go in and stay three
or four days and leave. I don't know what's going on,
so put Jose's I don't care what player. It is
a starter. I just don't with thirty one games to go.

(33:56):
You know how they always say, hey, sleep when you die,
unless you're the point of diminished trends and you're playing
so poorly that you're just going to say, listen, man,
a day off would be good. I need And really,
is the day off? Is that one day off enough
rest to sustain you? I mean to me, I just
if I'm the manager, it's going to take a hell

(34:16):
of a lot for you not to play. Yeah, you
want to give him a day off?

Speaker 6 (34:20):
Just dh M.

Speaker 4 (34:22):
That way doesn't have to run in And I don't know, man,
I just I really feel like.

Speaker 5 (34:27):
When we say this, it sounds like we're oh, it's
not a tough guy.

Speaker 6 (34:31):
I know, it's not that's not met at all. No,
But at the end of the day.

Speaker 5 (34:34):
How taxing is it to get in an attitude no offense,
catch her, come see me. I get it.

Speaker 6 (34:41):
And I'm not saying Jose beggdad of it.

Speaker 5 (34:42):
But if you're Joe Spout, especially with the way it's going,
and you've you can, you've got this lead, don't let
this creep back in. And you know what, one swing
of Jose two as it does matter, It does matter.
I just I don't know, man, I understand in June
and July, and I know they call it the dog
days in August.

Speaker 6 (35:02):
These dog days are about his important as it gets.

Speaker 5 (35:04):
Because you're in the stretcher.

Speaker 6 (35:05):
This is a straight out sprint.

Speaker 5 (35:07):
Brother. You don't, you don't. You really don't have time
to sit back and say I'll rest every five or
six games. Can't do it.

Speaker 4 (35:14):
Look a look at the schedule they're in right now.
They're playing in the Philadelphia Phillies, one of the best
teams in baseball. They turn around to come back home
to face the Kansas City Royals. Kansas City Royals are
one out now from their division with a.

Speaker 6 (35:26):
One game out, who's gonna finish second, the MVP.

Speaker 4 (35:28):
VO Bobby Wood Junior hit a home run last night
to propel them to a win. And then they turn
around they got to face Cincinnati, who are also right
there in.

Speaker 6 (35:35):
The wild card hunt and capable.

Speaker 4 (35:36):
And then after that, oh, by the way, they got
to take on the Arizona Diamondbacks who are also right
there in the playoff hunt.

Speaker 6 (35:41):
And we're in the World Series last year.

Speaker 4 (35:43):
Yes, you can't take days off. I'm sorry, unless he's sick.
Was he sick that we just didn't know.

Speaker 5 (35:47):
About, right that that very easily could actually know he
couldn't because he pinched hit last night and then went
in the tenth inning. It's exactly right.

Speaker 4 (35:55):
So if you're gonna play him in a pinch hit situation.

Speaker 5 (35:57):
Then if you're gonna send him, sit him the whole game, right,
don't sorry, this is the swing the bat. I don't
understand the philosophy. And this doesn't make me right because
I could be one hundred percent wrong, but I know
you can't. You're never gonna tell me the way I
was raised, the way I look at sports, that I
was supposed to change about it. I've always believed if
you're healthy, unless there's a one you play, you go

(36:20):
to work, and I understand off the long haul June,
he's played thirty straight games. We got a back to backer.
We had to make up a doubleheader. He's the catcher.
I get it.

Speaker 6 (36:29):
But for me, I just I can't rest Jordan Alvarez rest.
I can't. I got him in the lineup.

Speaker 5 (36:33):
No, are we gonna play Kyle Tucker two games and
then rest him a third when he comes back. I
need Kyle Tucker to play every damn game when he
comes back, to get him back into rhythm if he's healthy.
And apparently he ain't gonna take the field till he
is healthy.

Speaker 6 (36:48):
So when he's healthy, you run him out there.

Speaker 5 (36:49):
I just it's not There may not be any right
or wrong, but to me, from my perspective, the lineup stand.
The debating going to make change, but the lineup you're playing,
you don't even need to check with me. I'll let
you know if you're not playing. But for the most part,
I gotta have you. And it is. And like I said,
many may lean on the side of oh, get hosel too.
He's not fifty No, No, he plays second base and

(37:12):
he's not fifty and he's a money player that you
need in the lineup. So for me, I would not
have rested him. Sorry to tell you, like I said,
if he's going through a fan You know, anytime somebody
needs a mental rest because they're going through a situation.
But sometimes you all we tell people, we tell the kids.
What if a college kid came up to you on
Saturday at Tennessee playing Alabama and he said, you know what,

(37:36):
not hurt, I just need off, need day off. Well, Sean,
it's thirteen twelve games instead of one hundred and sixty years.
It's a it's all relative right to your sport. Yeah,
so I just like I said, it's not on jse
I just for Joe A spot it for me.

Speaker 6 (37:50):
He'll do it one way. I would not.

Speaker 5 (37:52):
My very few of my players are getting rest, the
six man rotations, giving pictures rest. Other than that, if
Bregman's elbow, say he's playing some position every day, Jordan's
in a lineup, Jose al twos starting at second base,
that's just that.

Speaker 6 (38:06):
That's me. Well, that's unrealistic, Sean, Well is it?

Speaker 5 (38:09):
Tell me? Yeah? Cal Ripken didn't find it unrealistic. No, Well,
the days have changed well that doesn't still doesn't mean
my mindset's changed over. If you're healthy, you play, especially now,
especially at this time of year, which maybe wasn't feeling
well to start. I don't know, because I know what
kind of competitor al Tuo ves. If it was a
manager's decision, I guess, but I think at times we

(38:31):
overrest players.

Speaker 6 (38:32):
I just do. I know it sounds mean, isn't that no?

Speaker 5 (38:37):
But is it? The game was a night game, right, Yeah,
you can see. I don't know, started at six forty
on Eastern East. Yeah, I don't know. It's like I said,
well you can't question I can, and I Joe Spy
has done a lot of good things. If whoever made
the decision, I would play my starters at this stage

(38:57):
of the game. I really don't have because you know
what one game of missing out on that and all
of a sudden doing it. You you you want a
tie breaker last year to win the division?

Speaker 1 (39:04):
Right?

Speaker 5 (39:05):
It's just so it does, man. And this is not
just kind of a sprint. It's a dead ass four
by one hundred meter relay sprint with thirty one games
to go. Yeah, at least that's my perception. But then again,
I'm a simple cave man. Yeah, gotta play your starters
from here on out. I don't care.

Speaker 4 (39:20):
I'm sorry, you got to You're only up three and
a half less hurt or sick, right, right, if you're
sick or hurt, okay, but if.

Speaker 5 (39:27):
You got the sniffles, now you're still playing, right. Yeah,
you just got a mask up, dog. Yep, No, that
what you don't got to do. Don't do that.

Speaker 7 (39:36):
All right.

Speaker 6 (39:36):
Let's get into seven back and those germs.

Speaker 5 (39:38):
You're to breathe it out right.

Speaker 4 (39:40):
Yeah, let's get into the seven o'clock hour right here
on Sports Talk seven, Hoey talking about these Astros and
looking at the division that's next.

Speaker 6 (39:49):
KBMS Houston two Houston, an i Heeart radio station.

Speaker 3 (39:53):
The Astros, the Rockets, Rockets, Pasty Fall, your home for
your home teams. This is Sports Talk seven ninety driven
by that classic elite buick GMC Studios for the elite
car buying the experience.

Speaker 6 (40:11):
Saulsbury, Obrey Houston. Okay, let's do this.

Speaker 2 (40:17):
Sean Salisbury, there to usc true longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.

Speaker 3 (40:23):
Bryan Lima, go Lobos. This is the Sean Salisbury Show.

Speaker 4 (40:31):
Let's get back out to the phone line seven one
three two one two five seven ninety and Sean, here
we go. Bonnie Joe sent us a very nice care
package to yourself, me and Tripoli, and and a great card, yes,
very personalized.

Speaker 5 (40:47):
And a nice letter. Bonnie Joe, first of all, welcome
in and number one we says you did not have
to do that, but what a treat that was for us.
So thank you so much. You are what an.

Speaker 6 (40:58):
Amazing person you are and it made our day, so
thank you.

Speaker 9 (41:02):
Well, y'all, y'all are very y'all are wonderful. I was
telling a man yel, I did that from my heart
and you guys just are the best. Y'all really start
my day off, greade. I mean, actually I get up
like it for so but but you keep my day.

Speaker 5 (41:16):
You know that means a lot to us. We do
not take it for granted. We really don't know, and
we just want you to know that. Uh, it meant
a lot to us as we all stood around and
read it and talked together.

Speaker 6 (41:26):
So thank you so much for the nice You're more
than welcome.

Speaker 9 (41:29):
So I wanted to talk about the resting and the players,
and I agree with I'm totally in y'all's camp. I
do not understand this, especially with baseball play. And I
understand they have a super long season, but I don't
understand the resting thing. I just I don't like it.

Speaker 8 (41:47):
I don't agree with it.

Speaker 9 (41:48):
I mean, unless you're you know, you have a death
in the family, or you're you're just you can't play,
you know, because of a terrible injury. And I just
I don't get it. These guys get paid so much
money to play one hundred and sixty two games, and

(42:09):
I don't understand the why they have to rest or
you know, these baseball It's not like baseball players are
out there running wind sprints all throughout the game every night,
or you know. I just I don't understand it. And
I apologize for my breath. I'm selling you, Manual, I'm
working out right now.

Speaker 6 (42:30):
Well, have no problem. You're you're doing more than we're doing.

Speaker 5 (42:33):
There you go, you're actually giving us good sports talk
and work it out. We're just trying to give you
a decent sports talk. So no problem at all, ad body, Joe,
I think you're right. I think we all agree. It's
not It's like I said, over the course of the time,
you may have to miss a few games because of
sore hamstringer some but to me, I just if you're
if you're healthy, you play.

Speaker 6 (42:51):
That's just the way I've always been.

Speaker 9 (42:53):
Okay. The thing is is with the you know when
they talk about that, and I understand, I'm not a
professional athlete, but when I was a competitive runner, I
have run with so many injuries in my body's. I'm
sure you did, Sean when you were you know, when
you played in the the league, and Brian when you
played you know, baseball in college and everything. I just

(43:16):
you go out and you play unless you really can't play.

Speaker 5 (43:20):
Amen.

Speaker 9 (43:21):
So okay, that's all I wanted.

Speaker 5 (43:23):
Guys, great point, enjoy your workout and we forget what
you did for us. Thank you, Bonnie Joe. That was
so nice.

Speaker 9 (43:29):
Thank you guys.

Speaker 5 (43:31):
Great there. What a sweet person man. And I'm I'm
I know that sounds hard, I mean harsh. Well over
of course he got arrested, but do you let me
ask you when you went over four two games in
a row, if that ever happened at any point, We've
all done it right, I've hit some slumps before. Okay,
who has it right on the third game? If they

(43:52):
wanted to arrest you, would you do? Did you get
any better watching somebod I mean, you get better watch,
But weren't you so fresh that you want.

Speaker 6 (43:58):
To get back out and get it over with?

Speaker 5 (43:59):
Yeah? Don't fester? Yeah yeah. And if you're on a roll,
do you want to sit?

Speaker 6 (44:03):
No? No, my body was built to play.

Speaker 4 (44:06):
I think there might be Like, I think there might
be an art too. I'm just gonna use the big
lue level. Not for me in college, but I get
the bigg level. If a guy's going like over his
last eighteen there might be something too.

Speaker 6 (44:19):
Hey beat himself up. Yeah, I get that.

Speaker 4 (44:21):
There might be a case where you're like, since your
ass down, mental mentally, regroup and then we'll get back
after it tomorrow.

Speaker 5 (44:28):
Yeah, matter of fact, to just relax, put some sunflower
seeds in your mouth and right, and we'll give you
that time.

Speaker 6 (44:34):
Okay.

Speaker 5 (44:34):
So that happens twice a year.

Speaker 4 (44:36):
Yeah, that's what I'm saying, few and far between, right,
But as far as like, if you go oh for
three in a game and you got an opportunity to
play the next day, you bet your ass I'm in
the lineup.

Speaker 5 (44:45):
I think we've gotten to the point where one hundred
and six to two for just give me a buck
forty five.

Speaker 6 (44:48):
We'll get you some rest. Yeah, I just I'm with you.
I don't hurting now.

Speaker 5 (44:53):
I'll take it back. I've told you this before. If
you're hurt, you play. There's a lot people that are
hurt from the once this opening snaps of these season
happen in football. Most of the guys Dereck Henry is
going to be hurt all year, needs a little sore ankle,
a little sore a well, it's just Mahomes taking a

(45:15):
hit in the bat. It's just gonna happen. Ce j
S is gonna be for all year, gonna take some
hits and by the time you start to feel better,
you're teeing it up again. It's the same thing here now.
Injured is different. If I would have if you don't
play hurt, you're you're you're gonna lose the team. I'm
just telling you you got to play now. If you
play injured and you hurt the team, well then you

(45:36):
got to dude. Settle down. You got a broken thumb,
you can't grip a ball. Sitch ass over there for
a minute. We'll get this fixed. But to me, I
know people are tired, but I don't know, did you
ever take a day's rest? And I know it's perspective,
do you ever take a day's rest in high school? No?
Thirty five games or whatever it was we played? And

(45:56):
I think another like, I can understand a couple not
at this time of year. Even more for me. You're
in the first forty games. This you're any division hunt? Right?

Speaker 13 (46:05):
Hey, guys, Yes, we had a caller. His name was Chris.
He I'm sure like you guys know. He said he
wanted to take Jose wanted to take his kid to school.
I'm first day at school yesterday.

Speaker 5 (46:17):
I'm well, how could he take his kid the first
day of school yesterday, Philadeldelphia. That's what he said.

Speaker 4 (46:23):
That's what That's what Chris said. You got patrolling in
third Philadelphia.

Speaker 5 (46:27):
Yeah there. Well, let's unless Jose, a kid flew in
and decided to go to a school in Philly. Right,
you can't take him the first day. That plane and
belf have to move awful fast and get there and
get back. And here's another thing. Now, but if he
was taking this kid to school, and let's say they've
charted him a private flight. School starts about eight in
the morning now or seven? Were they time starting seven?

Speaker 6 (46:48):
Seven?

Speaker 5 (46:49):
He was a night caise.

Speaker 4 (46:50):
He's got a young young kid, so it's the elementary
probably about seven thirty.

Speaker 5 (46:53):
Yeah, you could have made it back. He was there, right, Yeah,
that's my point. Yeah, I get in the part of
it right for me, And I'll tell you this. I'm
sorry to tell you. If it had been a home
game and you missed to take your kid to school
with thirty one games to go, I'd had.

Speaker 6 (47:10):
A major problem with it.

Speaker 2 (47:11):
Oh.

Speaker 5 (47:11):
Yeah, we all want to take our kids to the
first day of school. Hey, you got a great presentation shop.
You f them kid, right, we all want to go
see their Yeah, but if it conflicted, like if it
was a one o'clock game and the kid went to
half day and it's his first day of school, you
better get it on video.

Speaker 6 (47:31):
You gotta play a game.

Speaker 4 (47:32):
Send you send your nanny, yes, have her video it,
and then bring bring your kid to the ballpark if
it's a half day.

Speaker 5 (47:37):
And then and I guess what the next day, if
it's if you can take them in the morning because
it's a full day, then you take them to school.

Speaker 4 (47:42):
I promised your first day, your your first day of
fourth grade. It's not that big of a deal.

Speaker 6 (47:46):
And I got for you when you're a kid.

Speaker 5 (47:49):
It's for the parent because twenty years from now, you
know to remember who your teacher's name is in the
fourth grade, let alone if your dad showed up. Now
you want to be present, but you also got to
explain the exception of I got a job. It's actually
what I got to do to make sure I can
put you in give you an opportunity to make sure
you have a good life. I also like now as

(48:09):
much as I love family, guess what be there for
the birth first day of school?

Speaker 4 (48:14):
The explanation from a spot It just kind of irks me.
I've asked a lot from jose Al TV this year,
and he just needs a little breather. No, he's jose
Al Tuves. Why he's jose Al Tuve.

Speaker 6 (48:26):
You guys going in the Hall of Fame.

Speaker 4 (48:27):
That's why he's a right now, he's in my opinion,
right now, he's a Hall of Fame. If his career
ended today, he's a Hall of Famer. Emphatically, that's why
he's your guy. That's why he's the face of the franchise.
That's why he's your all star second basement. That's why
he's a future Hall of Famer because you can do that.

Speaker 5 (48:43):
Well, wait a second, and I expect more from Jose
al Tove, not not from sitting down in it. You
expect more because he's a great player. I'll put more
on him because he's that guy. Yeah, just like you put.
You put a lot on Bregman, don't you. Yeah, Hell, dude,
your elbow still hurts and you're you're we gotta have.

Speaker 6 (48:58):
You in the lineup.

Speaker 4 (48:59):
Just a couple of day ys ago that we we
discussed it. We didn't think that out too, that Breagan
was going to play a lot of third base. And
I'm sure at some point he went to Joe'sponni he said, Dude,
I'm hurting, but I'm getting put me over at third base.

Speaker 5 (49:10):
So it's not the Jose thing. But that's why Joe
doesn't need to apologize. You're putting a lot on him.
You put a lot on him, You put him a
second base and they give him ford bats against. Why.

Speaker 6 (49:18):
That's why they're your guys, your dudes.

Speaker 5 (49:20):
That's why when all of a sudden, none you're gonna
be sitting in Cooperstown watching him be, you know, with
a bus and watching somebody put him in the Hall
of Fame. So I don't know. I'm with Bonnie Joe
and I'm with you. I I just think a little different,
maybe wrong, And that's okay. I don't care for me
if I'm the manager and I'm doing it and a player,
I just maybe certain and some are built different. Now

(49:43):
I'm the type of guy would have been in a
fight with a manager if.

Speaker 4 (49:46):
This was if this was a player a couple of
days ago, or not a couple of days of a
couple of years ago, where you got a twelve game
lead with thirty games to go, rest in five days.

Speaker 5 (49:55):
You want to break in fact, take the whole series off,
get yourself back in healthy, good, good with this. Yeah,
and Al two B probably said no, not taking the
whole series. I'll take it day off, but I play
in case, okay, right, I just I'm not And it's
the time of year that probably gets in my crawl
a little more. Well, I just don't think every put
every single friggin game, it's paramount.

Speaker 7 (50:18):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (50:18):
Now you want to.

Speaker 6 (50:19):
Go into the last ten games of the season with
a half game leader. Well, no, we saw what happened
last year.

Speaker 5 (50:24):
I don't want that.

Speaker 4 (50:24):
Just a couple of days ago, we were talking about
the realistic ability of the Astros trying to get the
number number one seed. And here we are, just a
couple of days later, and they only have a three
and a half game lead, and you're resting Jose al.

Speaker 5 (50:33):
To b run. Yeah one day one guy, Oh, well,
this will make and it may. And there are people
out there. I guarantee that they're like and baseball. Some
baseball people are hardcore. Btck. Gotta give him rest, Gotta
give them rest. I just think a little different. And
maybe it's just the mentality of the way I grew up.
I don't know, but and I guess maybe if I'm managing,
I think different too, and maybe Ryan, if I'm around
the team every day. But I've asked a lot of
Jose and you want to know why, because he delivers.

Speaker 6 (50:55):
Yeah, that's just me.

Speaker 5 (50:57):
That's just frustrating. I don't I'm not a big management guy,
never have been, and I never will be.

Speaker 6 (51:02):
No never.

Speaker 4 (51:03):

Speaker 6 (53:06):
The Sean Salisbury Show.

Speaker 4 (53:08):
It's time for the steak out here on the Seawn
Salisbury Show. So the steak Oout's get out to the
phone line seven to one to three two on two
five seven, I need talking about the astros, talking about
jose Al Tuove getting a quote unquote breather. Let's talk
to Brandon first. Brandon, appreciate you holding what's going on?

Speaker 14 (53:23):
Hey guys, good morning, and Morna Shanson as well. And
you know, I've talked about this before several times. I've
got an award and nominated podcast that's on actually WSM
radio at Nashville in Tennessee. And you know, one of
the things I talk about two musicians all the time
is how integrated you know, you you intoquate both between
sports and music, and you kind of really put the
two together. And I think you always ask musicians about
athletes and athletes about musicians and things like that. And

(53:45):
that's the one thing about musicians they'll tell you is,
you know, they get tired. They go on these long
tour dates, they play one hundred and fifty hundred and
sixty shows throughout the year, and always ask you, how
do you take care of your voice?

Speaker 1 (53:54):
You know, what do you do?

Speaker 14 (53:55):
What do you feel like when you come off the
road doing this and this and this and you're away
from home. Well, they can never quit. And I think
professional athletes totally agree with both of you guys on
the main points is if you can play, get your
ass in the lineup and play and go, especially with
thirty one games to go and the three and a
half game lead. The five and a half game lead
was never safe in the first place. And so if
I'm a fan buying a ticket to a professional sports

(54:15):
game or a concert, I expect the performers to deliver
on stage when it comes to the musicians, and I
expect to add the best athletes to be in the
lineup to play because as a fan who purchased a ticket,
I want to get the best of that show and
be able to take pictures and have a lot of memories,
you know, with my family and friends and things like that.

Speaker 1 (54:31):
So I mean outside of.

Speaker 14 (54:32):
Bereaveman or paternity list or something like that, I get
that for those valid excuses or you just kind of
on your deathbed, if you can play and get yourself
in there. The only way to be good at your
craft is to do it over and over again. And
those guys should know totally that you're making twenty five
or thirty million dollars a year to be put in
a lineup to produce. You've got to do it, and
right now, with thirty one games to go, Sean, this

(54:54):
is not the time to sit. And like I said,
you always talk about, you know, musicians getting up there
and doing their best to put the performance on stage
and sing those songs for the fans at affairs and festivals.

Speaker 1 (55:04):
And things like that.

Speaker 14 (55:04):
You've got to really put your best foot forward and
deliver for your audience. And right now the Astros are
not delivering for their fans.

Speaker 4 (55:11):
Hey, Brandon, I'm gonna put you on hold. Do you
mind telling uh Tripoli you're the name of your podcast?

Speaker 5 (55:15):
Please yes?

Speaker 6 (55:17):
Or I can't guess appreciate the call. Bround put you on.

Speaker 5 (55:18):
Hold, Brandon. I I couldn't agree more.

Speaker 6 (55:23):
I one could not agree more.

Speaker 5 (55:25):
I'm not I don't subscribe to at this stage of
the season, not only paying a lot of money. And
the truth is, you want to know the real thing,
I don't care if you make thirty million dollars or
thirty bucks. If that's your job, do your job and
do your job. But if I'm the manager, I just
expect you to play. Yeah. The only way you're not
playing is if you're injured, right or like you said,

(55:46):
bereavement or you're having your there's a baby, whatever it is.
You got a stomach bug and you you know, you
know what I mean, like okay, but not take some
emodium ad and go play.

Speaker 4 (55:56):
You're asking the line up there you go talk to Bob, Hello, Bob.

Speaker 1 (56:01):
Hey, good morning guys.

Speaker 5 (56:02):
Hey.

Speaker 1 (56:04):
I'm just curious.

Speaker 15 (56:06):
Is this kind of resting load manage or whatever is
that unique to the Astros or does the whole league
do it? And that we sometimes run up against teams
that aren't playing their superstars.

Speaker 4 (56:19):
You know what, I don't know, Bob Sean, do you
think that the ASH was the only ones resting guys
like this?

Speaker 5 (56:25):
No, like other teams do I think this? Maybe it's
because we're here now. I'd have to go through and say, okay,
how often is Harper getting rested? How you rest? No, Tony,
I mean if you watch games, watch highlights the night
and they're in the lineup. But there may be along
the way. I think that managers do rest players. I
don't know. It feels like if we're in this town,

(56:48):
which we are, it feels like maybe it's more here
just because maybe it is. I don't know. And with
all the injuries, maybe it gets muddied a little bit.
I don't know, and I don't know. That's a good question,
But I don't know. If around the league, the Stars,
and if you're in Seattle and you're resting your starters,
you're an idiot. You're an idiot. You're trying to chase
people down. If you're so through these I mean, yeah,

(57:10):
I wouldn't imagine. It just feels like we rest them more.
But I may we may be in the middle of
the pack or down load. People may rest more. But
I'm talking about specifically on this team with a three
and a half game lead. Baseball is not a it's
a physical sport, but it's not a violent sport. If
you're healthy at thirty one games to go, I don't

(57:32):
know why the manager wouldn't play it.

Speaker 6 (57:33):
That's just me.

Speaker 15 (57:34):
Yeah, yeah, you know if Sean, I think, you know,
we're passionate about our team. We see it every day
and so we're you know, we're into it.

Speaker 1 (57:43):
But you know, I'm wondering if it's more like, you know.

Speaker 15 (57:45):
An analogy I'll use it is Nascar. You know, everybody's
got to make a pit stop, you know, to refuel
sure change equipment or fixed tires or whatever, you know,
and maybe we're just not seeing.

Speaker 5 (57:56):
It right, Bob, What if I told you this, What
if I said, get those pit stops early so your
tires can finish the race. Does that make sense? It's
it's hard. It's it's hard.

Speaker 6 (58:06):
It's hard. It's hard.

Speaker 5 (58:07):
It's hard to pit with two laps to go and
you're you're you're running one on one and then to
catch back up. So to me, I'd like to to
ball hog the pit stops early while everybody's going and
late that that that energy is through the roof for
thirty one. Again, we ain't got time to stop. Man,
We've already fueled up. And if I got to play
on a ball time, yeah, if I got to play

(58:29):
a ball tire too down the stretch, guess what, we'll
deal with it. We'll find a way to get across
the finish. That's just me, and that may be too archaic,
But I'm not a big I'm not a big overrest guys.
I think guys want to play through slumps, and I
think guys want to play when they're when they're going good.
Every now and then rest bit's good. But to me.
That's just a couple times a year unless you're injured.

(58:49):
That's just my approach. Always will be Thanks, Bob, I
appreciate you, buddy, Thank you.

Speaker 6 (58:54):
Oh well, get to one quick one, Tom.

Speaker 4 (58:56):
I got about forty five seconds for you and want
to get you in before the break.

Speaker 5 (59:00):
I'll be quick, man. I want to talk about Tucker.

Speaker 16 (59:03):
It's obvious this guy can't stand on that leg too long.
I heard that he was hitting balls up into the
upper deck and that's encouraging. But when you're going first
to third, that right foot is doing a lot of work.
You got to go for a double, You're gonna be
putting a lot of weight on that.

Speaker 5 (59:20):
So it's obvious.

Speaker 16 (59:22):
He's been out seventy plus games and they're playing great
baseball and they're playing well. But it's all hands on
deck now. We just started a three game series, three
game series with a team we may see it in
the postseason. JB's going tonight. I hate to say it
must win, but this is the best of three series.

Speaker 1 (59:42):
We got.

Speaker 5 (59:43):
We gotta knot it up.

Speaker 16 (59:45):
I'm worried about Tucker, man. I don't want to see
him come back, and then he's got to shut it
down after three days because I don't think he'll make
it through that. Thanks for letting me.

Speaker 5 (59:54):
In, guys, show is always from you. I don't know.
I'm concerned about Tucker, have been for a while. He's
still not on a rehab start song. That's concerning. I
get it. And I know what they say is pound
of balls in the upper tank, right, and that doesn't
shock me.

Speaker 6 (01:00:10):
But it's if he was healthy.

Speaker 5 (01:00:13):
I missed that. I thought. I thought Steve Sparks said
it too on Monday. I thought he said that, Yeah,
he saw Tucker tak a VP and he's pounding the
ball in up upper tank.

Speaker 4 (01:00:21):
Man, So you know, the only up upstairs, the only
video I've seen him taking BP. And again I might
have just completely missed. Over the weekend he was hitting
balls into the net.

Speaker 6 (01:00:33):
Okay, I could Steve Sparks. Maybe it was a caller.

Speaker 5 (01:00:36):
I thought it was Steve who said that he's he's
hitting the ball a country mile, so he's getting closer.

Speaker 6 (01:00:41):
At least it looks better. I might have missed it.

Speaker 5 (01:00:43):
I was on a use my word of country mile,
but he's he's pounding balls upstairs.

Speaker 4 (01:00:46):
So I was on a call yesterday when.

Speaker 5 (01:00:48):
Sound right, pounding balls upstairs.

Speaker 4 (01:00:49):
Well, I mean you like to pound balls upstairs anyway.

Speaker 5 (01:00:51):
I pound balls on the range. Beat ball, that's right,
you beat balls the range, right on the range. Yeah,
but I'm all hands on deck thirty one games ago.
Don't you think it's a.

Speaker 6 (01:01:02):
Dude?

Speaker 5 (01:01:03):
Uh?

Speaker 6 (01:01:04):
Well, we'll rest when the sea's over.

Speaker 5 (01:01:06):
Yeah, unless all of a sudden we get a ten
game lead with ten games to go. Hey, kick back
and pick. Put your feet up, man, grab a cigar
and let's roll.

Speaker 4 (01:01:14):
Yeah, get you a pole done. I think you might
you might have a problem.

Speaker 6 (01:01:21):
What do you mean.

Speaker 5 (01:01:22):
Maybe it's not a problem.

Speaker 6 (01:01:24):
I mean, dude, it's twenty twenty four, man, grow up.

Speaker 5 (01:01:26):
Maybe it's not a problem. Maybe it's just I mean,
I don't know. I'm going to break.

Speaker 4 (01:01:36):
So is one of my problems not being able to see?
Is it that time of year? I have contacts with
vision dog? Did I get Well?

Speaker 5 (01:01:45):
You should have done that a long time ago, like
always your relate to the party. WHOA, I'm kidding, it's
not cool man, ws it vision dot com w H
I T S E T T. Let me let me
give you the brass tacks of this. I don't Brian
likes that frame brass tax is simple. If you get
tired of contacts and glasses, go to the best Lasik

(01:02:05):
procedure guy on the planet. He's not one of these
big old places where it's like we're just putting a
stamp on you get one hundred people through a day,
because that's what we want to do, make money. This
is he's one on one with you. If he's the
one who gives you the consultation, he's obviously going to
be the one who does your procedure. So it feels
like you know him even more. Do You're not just
a or sitting in a dog on where they just

(01:02:28):
stamp you and move on. This is no assembly line Lasik. Okay,
it's also no assembly line eye care. It's doctor Jeff
Witz at the best in the business. You know, I
wasn't on the table long. It's not invasive, the greatest
latest equipment, and he's got, you know, the best when

Were but the Shawn Salisbury Show continued.

Speaker 17 (01:03:28):
Good morning, guys.

Speaker 18 (01:03:30):
One quick question, if the Astros won that game last night,
or we've been talking about this today or about two
by play? Are about two plays and they lose? Are
we talking about this today?

Speaker 1 (01:03:44):
Serious questions?

Speaker 5 (01:03:46):
Bill, That's one hell of a question. It's probably not
a no. We probably loss over it. Yeah, okay, Yeah.
Do I think that.

Speaker 6 (01:03:53):
Out may not be in the lineup was the reason
they lost?

Speaker 4 (01:03:56):
No?

Speaker 5 (01:03:56):
Do I think that he could have been a different Sure?
And it's not it's not even for just it's the
overall picture. For me, I guess in my with thirty
one games. You get my point, Bill, it's just the optics,
the optics of what I need. I don't want us
to get too comfortable, meaning the Astros feel like okay,
and I know they're not.

Speaker 6 (01:04:12):
This team knows how to do it.

Speaker 5 (01:04:13):
They've been doing it for seven or eight years now,
seven years in a row, going on eight to win
another division and get to the ALCS.

Speaker 6 (01:04:19):
But I think you're right.

Speaker 5 (01:04:21):
If Altuve does not play and they win, we're talking
about what a job hater did and how they hung
in there and won another type game and out too,
and it rarely comes up. I think that it's always
heightened and hyper sensitive because you lost by a run
and you want that guy in there, and then we think, well,
why do you need rest at thirty one games to go?
I get what you're saying one hundred percent. I think

(01:04:41):
you're correct.

Speaker 18 (01:04:43):
If you grew up in southern California saw back in
the day, this is just this one of these old
school news school things, right. We are we are selective
about which ones we follow. If say, Russell Lopes and
Garby didn't play something was wrong back.

Speaker 6 (01:05:01):
Well, my first thought would have been, why are they hurt?
What happened? They're get in trouble, yes, no doubt.

Speaker 1 (01:05:07):
And if you if you.

Speaker 18 (01:05:07):
Told Tommy it was sort of you know, we're gonna
go to a six man rotation. Six man Now, it's
okay to give Pictures an extra day off today, it's
cool to do that has six man rotations, but al two,
we can't have the day off in August. I know,
I know where the standings are. I get it, but look,
look how baseball.

Speaker 5 (01:05:28):
Has changed every one hundred and now you know what's
got two Bill? And it's such a such a valid point,
and we all obsess over stuff that at times maybe
doesn't need obsessing, and we're looking for reasons right.

Speaker 6 (01:05:42):
Why we lose.

Speaker 5 (01:05:43):
Well, maybe it's because of that. I get the optics
of going forward, of trying to get out in front
of the seat and get rest later, you know, maybe
with five or ten games to go. But I get
it for me, I also think about this bill, don't you.
I'm to the point now with basketball and baseball, I
don't expect to see a player one hundred and sixty
two games, one.

Speaker 6 (01:05:59):
Hundred and fifty eight games. And I'm not talking about
being hurt.

Speaker 5 (01:06:02):
I'm talking about I expect every ten, twelve to fifteen
games that they're getting a day off, and I'm not.

Speaker 6 (01:06:07):
Sure I like it. Right, That's exactly right.

Speaker 18 (01:06:11):
It's remarkable because this is we're in a generation now
where they have the best nutritionalists, the best equipment, They've
got all sorts of staff and people to for help
the guys never had even twenty years ago. It's amazing
how all the sports.

Speaker 5 (01:06:27):
I almost bill You're right, and I almost think it's
a negative at times that that the perception now is
negative that we can't play that guy one hundred and
sixty two games.

Speaker 6 (01:06:37):
He needs more, you know what I'm saying. That's part
is shifted too.

Speaker 5 (01:06:41):
Ours paradigms have got to the point like no, no, no,
we're not playing. We don't rest them. One hundred and
forty five games were good, right, I mean, it's like
our perspective on it, it's like our expectations, like we
were punishing you more for playing them. It's like why
they keep playing him instead of why is he sitting down? Yeah,
you're right, man, it has changed so much. Our whole

(01:07:03):
DNA has changed on our thought process, no question.

Speaker 18 (01:07:07):
Und forty five games is a guy taking two games
off a month.

Speaker 5 (01:07:11):
Yes, in the season, and that's regular, isn't that a
doesn't that feel like a regular occurrence? So Bill, now
that seems like, yeah, it feels like right, that's exactly right.

Speaker 6 (01:07:19):
That's the point, great point.

Speaker 1 (01:07:20):
By appreciate your time.

Speaker 5 (01:07:22):
Thank you, Bill.

Speaker 6 (01:07:23):
Appreciate it Bill, It really it is.

Speaker 5 (01:07:25):
And if they won, we wouldn't even talking about say, oh,
go good and needed day off. Isn't a weird hell,
but it's still the it's for me, the optics and
where we're doing it in the season. Right game thirty one,
I wouldn't have problem with it. Thirty one games to
go bothers me a little more, not that it matters.
If I'm bothered by it, I'd want my I want
out two V in every game from here on out.

(01:07:45):
That's just me.

Speaker 6 (01:07:46):
Yeah, three and a half up, that's it.

Speaker 5 (01:07:47):
Yep.

Speaker 4 (01:07:48):
So I talked to Roger. Actually, you know what we've
got to get to, Presston. Roger will get to your
next break. Pressed on what's going on?

Speaker 1 (01:07:55):
All right?

Speaker 6 (01:07:57):
Pressed? Any there?

Speaker 4 (01:08:00):
Hello, Preston, Hey guys, we well, uh, triple if you
don't mind telling Preston's got a terrible connection, Roger, what's happening?

Speaker 1 (01:08:10):
Good morning fellas.

Speaker 8 (01:08:11):
I just think the uh, the the TV and everybody
getting rest is just a little bit overblown because how
tight the race is. If we had a if we
had a you know, ten game lead on everybody, you know,
it would be different. And look at what Dussell was
doing last year. It was resting. He was resting, the resting.
So I just think, I just think that our pitching

(01:08:35):
is gonna it's gonna just take us as far as
we want to go. And I just hope that we
get that one bat back and Tucker and had some
meaningful bad That's that's really how how how I see
it now. I don't see that we we don't have
enough firepower, but we do have enough pitching, uh to
get us going. Man, Hector Nerris, that guy's an animal.

(01:08:56):
That guy came, he's come back to us and he's
been just like like he just never stopped, you know.
Just I'll tell you, man, this pitching staff, the way,
the way the way we handle our pitching, man, it's
a it's a gem. It's it's awesome to see. Man,
it's been doing They've been doing this for a while.
Uh So yeah, I just think that the narrative is
it changes every time, you know, we lose a game

(01:09:18):
and we have a guy that's out. But you know,
I just really think that, uh, if we can just
get some bats man we need, we need some power,
we need we we need a little bit more hitting.
And uh the pitching. The pitching is awesome, It's been great,
and uh yeah I did. I wasn't fortunate putting putting,
uh putting Hater back to back uh innings like that.

(01:09:38):
I just really see him do his one inning and
and and be done with it. And I know he
gets paid a lot of money to do it, but
I just think that the best uses for him is
coming back in that ninth thing and just closing the
deal and maybe going with their Sean Duban or something
for the next time. But that's all I had, Fellas,
I have a good one, and my.

Speaker 5 (01:09:57):
Thing is Roger makes good points. But if somebody else
comes in and you lose after Hater went strikeout, strikeout,
strikeout in a game of that magnitude, and it is
an incredibly high leverage situation on the road, He's as
good as there is in baseball at the back end
of a bullpen. I want my best and your best. No,

(01:10:17):
no disrespect to dub but he's not your best. Thirty
win righty on lefty anyway.

Speaker 4 (01:10:21):
Eleven straight strikes, thirteen pitches twelve and them being strikes.

Speaker 6 (01:10:25):
He struck out the side. Yeah, you're rolling him back
out there.

Speaker 5 (01:10:28):
You have to.

Speaker 4 (01:10:28):
You're not going with Sean Duban. Sorry, it's not happening.
And if I lose with my best, I'm okay, exactly.
I don't like it, but I'll deal with it. Plus,
you had trade Turner coming up, then you have the
lefty on lefty matchup, So I mean listening.

Speaker 5 (01:10:42):
The truth of the matter is when you go Turner, Harper, Boom,
you're pretty much you're you're in a bind regardless.

Speaker 4 (01:10:50):
Yeah, that's why they've been one of the best teams
in baseball. That's that lineup.

Speaker 5 (01:10:53):
So yeah, the hater thing last night didn't bother me
at all. And the Altov thing in Rodger, right, we
probably you know, do we make a big deal of it?
Sure is one game, and one game does matter to me.
Like I said, it's just a time of year. In
the optics of it. If you did this happened in
game seventy five, we'd say, okay, day off in the
middle of season. Jose's hit, you know, doing his thing.
I get it. But it's not just Jose. It'd be anybody.

(01:11:15):
I want your down the lineup. I want bregnant the lineup.
If you're banged up and can play, I want you playing.
That's just it's more selfish for me and greedy, because
I want my best.

Speaker 6 (01:11:22):
Players on the field.

Speaker 5 (01:11:23):
Yeah, as long as they're not just laboring to the
point where they go and skip.

Speaker 6 (01:11:27):
I gotta get a day off, man, I get it.

Speaker 5 (01:11:29):
But at this time of year, it's almost like you
have to have a new, rejuvenated five hour energy right
to where it's like I can't. I can't.

Speaker 6 (01:11:36):
I just can't get tired. I can't need a day off.

Speaker 5 (01:11:39):
The day off is me getting off my feet on
the field and maybe taking a d H day. But
I just can't take the day off. So we probably
make a big, like you a loss. We're always looking
for something to why did this happen?

Speaker 7 (01:11:50):
Right?

Speaker 5 (01:11:51):
And maybe al two based presence last night does change it,
who knows. But in fact of the matters, they lost
he'll be back in the lineup today. I would imagine.
If he's not, then guess what that is? Then it
was more than just I needed a day off, right,
something else is going on. That's exactly right. Seven seveney
isn't ever rejoinable? Continue to take your calls here on
these astros. Next, Hey, what about Trajan Wealth. You spend
a lot of time planning that summer vacation, right, Well,

(01:12:11):
summer's almost over as you head to the fall, and
you think, okay, I spent the days planning that vacation.
Are you doing the same for your retirement? And that
takes more than days. But when you have an expert
like Trajan Wealth side by side with you as a
financial fiduciary, local, intrusted, family owned and veteran led with
your portfolio, your portfolio is different than somebody else's. It's

(01:12:32):
not all treated the same. How can it be? Time
do you retire? How many years you spent working and
all those hard years you put in, you should get
a little peace of mind, right, and more than a little,
you deserve a lot. And if you're a DIY investor
and financial guy, I get it. But sometimes you got
to step outside that box and go to somebody who
may have more answers with to your questions than you

(01:12:53):
have answers too.

Speaker 6 (01:12:54):
It's okay.

Speaker 5 (01:12:55):
Sometimes it's better to have somebody standing next to you,
to you trust, that's transparent, that you believe in, that
they're almost family to you because they're looking after what
in turn, sometimes people won't look after. It's a financial
fiduciary that cares about you and your retirement. Whenever that
retirement decision is made by you. Best to get started early.
But while you're doing it, risk tolerance.

Speaker 1 (01:13:15):
What is it?

Speaker 5 (01:13:16):
Are you sure you got enough money to retire? You
got all your things in order? Can you stay retired?
All these questions? And they have answers. Experts in the
Woodlands and Sugarland, phenomenal group of people that will do
work for you to create peace and hopefully great security.
And you may want to talk generational wealth, but you've
got to get started, and you've got to get somebody
who knows what they're doing.

Speaker 6 (01:13:36):
Period.

Speaker 5 (01:13:37):
So put as much time into your finances and preparing
for your retirement as you do that vacation. I would
imagine it matters just as much, if not more, so
you can have more vacations during retirement. It's Trasian Wealth

Sales that's goutiful pressed in good Morning, Good Morning.

Speaker 7 (01:14:13):
I started about that earlier I was driving, so I
put it over now. I want to make a couple
of comments and one thing I don't understand, and maybe
you guys can explain it to me. When these professional
athletes start their careers in the little leagues and then
college and everything else, when they get to the majors,
they sign a contract. They sign a contract to play

(01:14:35):
every day that where they play, they're supposed to play baseball,
how many games ever it is. I own my own
construction company. I expect my employees to be at work
every day, ready to go to work, regardless of how
many days in a row we're working. You get your
off days, but you knew what you were getting into

(01:14:55):
in the very beginning when you signed that contract. So
why should you need it off, whether we're in the
hunt or whatever else, you're expected to play every day.
And the bigger pro athletes that get these millions and
millions of dollars, they should know that more than anybody else.
And again, like the lady said earlier, it's not a
physical sport most of the times they're standing out there.

(01:15:18):
I granted the flights and the trips and everything. I
fully understand that. But again, you signed a contract saying
that you will play every day there is a game.
Why do you need a day off? I don't understand that.

Speaker 4 (01:15:36):
It's a good point, Preston.

Speaker 5 (01:15:39):
I think there's a time and a place for days off.
I don't think there's many of them needed. Thank you
for the call. Yeah, a good good point to me.
It's more the time of year. Yeah, that's my issue
with how tight the race is. Thirty one games left.

Speaker 4 (01:15:51):
You're only three and a half up now because the
Mariners won last night, Astros lost. Even even with four
and a half up, I'm still not comfortable with it.

Speaker 6 (01:15:59):
Five up.

Speaker 5 (01:16:00):
Here's my whole philosophy is I've always I just need
to know the conflict, right. I can give you answers
to the test when I know the conflict. The conflict
is a tight race and a lot of injuries, and
the season's winding down. Now that I know the conflict,
the only answer is, if I'm going to go down,
you're getting my best, Dude, I'm going down with I'm

(01:16:21):
going down with my best. If I'm gonna win it,
more than likely you're gonna win it with your best.

Speaker 4 (01:16:27):
And it's and it's the middle of the schedule that
they're in as well.

Speaker 5 (01:16:31):
Well, let me ask you this. What if a guy's
tired of for a long season and game three of
a seven game series needs a day off, you giving
it to him.

Speaker 4 (01:16:38):
Say that again.

Speaker 5 (01:16:39):
Let's say guy plays a bunch of games and all
of sudden it comes in game three. Just it's stayed
up to night when Game three just couldn't fall asleep
the night before, came to the ballpark, didn't have any adrenaline.
And it's a night game, prime time. It's game three
of the and you're you're down, it's one to one,
and were in the playoffs, the playoffs. You better take
a nap or something better figure it out. What's the difference, Yeah,
there is no difference outside of it idea, it's a

(01:17:00):
playoff run right now. Yeah, it's a spring. We talked
about it, playoff run. Oh and when people say, oh,
but that's the playoffs, it's single elimination. Yeah, no, it's
actually not. It's it's it's you gotta lose. You got
to win four games, right in seven games? Says for me,
it's just my thought process. I know it's thirty one,
and I know it's the playoffs. But to get to
my point is, I'm already thinking this is the playoffs.

(01:17:25):
I'm approaching every frigging day like it's single elimination.

Speaker 6 (01:17:28):
I'm not. I just am.

Speaker 5 (01:17:30):
That doesn't mean the expense of pitching Verlander into one
hundred and twenty pitches. We're talking about every day player
and you know what, you might need eight at bats,
Okay if it's a long game, Oh well, you wouldn't
do it in the playoffs. Aren't we in a playoff runt?
You're only up three and a half, Tames. I don't
have any complaints about people make decisions. I do, and
I understand the gig because haven't been in there. I

(01:17:52):
understand coaches and the decisions they make, and they're there
and have a tougher job than we do making those decisions.
From my vantage point, thirty one games to go, this
is the playoffs. Yeah, it's just sprint now. And to me,
the Philadelphia Phillies, I don't know why rest of my
best players first Oakland, Right, I'm kidding, you know, I'm
using them as an example, right, if I got to

(01:18:13):
have a rest, even though they've hopefully's been pretty good
the second half I'm talking about. It's Philly. Yeah, maybe
not in this series. Yeah, I'm just that's just me,
simple cave man. As I told you, Rob, welcome in.

Speaker 1 (01:18:29):
Good morning guys. Uh you know, y'all l asked earlier.

Speaker 19 (01:18:32):
Her caller asked better yet, if this was just an
Astros thing or if it was more of a league
wide thing, I'll tell you right now, somebody who plays
in multiple fantasy baseball leagues, it's a it's a league
wide thing.

Speaker 1 (01:18:45):
Yeah. I get alerts every day about one of my starters.

Speaker 19 (01:18:48):
And obviously in fantasy, you know you're only playing with
the best when it's fantasy. You know, I play in
a couple of leagues that are eight man leagues and
twelve man leagues, so it's you're you're really only playing
with the best, the best starters in the game, and
every day I've got at least one guy sometimes too
that it's just a standard day off for whoever it

(01:19:09):
may be.

Speaker 1 (01:19:09):
So it's definitely a league wide thing.

Speaker 19 (01:19:11):
And you know, unfortunately, I just the only thing I
can talk it up to is they just don't make
athletes the way they used to.

Speaker 1 (01:19:17):
You look at what is now the.

Speaker 19 (01:19:19):
Threshold for a for a workhorse of a starting pitcher,
and it's two hundred innings a year. I mean, you
guys go back and look at stats of Nolan Ryan
and look at how often he threw three hundred innings,
how many consecutive seasons he threw three hundred innings. You
look at Michael Jordan's his flu game, you know, performance,
You know, there's just so many examples of what athletes

(01:19:42):
used to be expected to do, used to be capable
of doing, and now it's almost like they're they're being coddled.
And you know, you would think if they're if they're
gonna be coddled and we're gonna work load manage them,
then we shouldn't be seeing we we shouldn't be seeing
the the twelve the twelve years, the fifteen years.

Speaker 1 (01:20:01):
The twenty years used to be a regular.

Speaker 19 (01:20:03):
Maybe not twenty that may be a stretch, but you know,
the league average for a guy's tenure in baseball used
to be a lot more seasons played than what it
is now. And let me, it's just the only thing
that I can chalk it up to is that it's
they're they're just built differently.

Speaker 5 (01:20:17):
Now they are. That's a simple fact. Not that they're
not less athletic or any if. It just built different
doesn't mean wrong. But you're exactly and Rob, I'll say this,
and you make a good point, but let me let me,
he makes a bunch of good points about it. And
it is built different. It's not a negative thing. It's
just the way it is. Why doesn't Joe Spotty get
a day off? Yeah?

Speaker 6 (01:20:37):
Good point.

Speaker 5 (01:20:38):
He plays it, he plays a get right, he's staying
that dug guy, I mean, being honest with the hitting instructures,
grinding his ass off. Why why don't we give him? Hey,
you need to day's rest. You take it off. You
stay at the hotel and get some rest. Yeah, or
just come in here. You're here, but you're not going
to do anything. Yeah, do you get my point? Well,
it's not the same as standing at second baser at shortstop.

(01:20:59):
Maybe not, but it's a mental exhaustion because he's got
more mental strain than anybody because he's got to mix
and match all kinds of stuff, especially before the DH
If you're imagine if you're managed in the National League. Yeah,
all the move. But the truth is, yeah, if we're
giving him off, Hey, Joe's taking a day off today.

Speaker 6 (01:21:16):

He's built different. He ain't ready for the buzzer. No,
I think he is. He's ready. Look at him? You
ready pop back in there, Triple He's ready?

Speaker 5 (01:22:41):
He Triple E.

Speaker 4 (01:22:43):
Are we gonna we got a we got the twist
coming out anytime soon. You're gonna go with the fro
like we discussed or no, come on, man, you imagine
TRIPLEY coming in here with just a fresh cut fresh fro.

Speaker 5 (01:22:57):
Yeah, but let's put some le's put some plural on
a roster.

Speaker 6 (01:23:03):
Yeah, he's got stable of them.

Speaker 7 (01:23:05):
You know.

Speaker 6 (01:23:05):
Tell you what, man, he built a hell of a roster.

Speaker 5 (01:23:07):
Man. He sends a lot of them to Triple A.
Sure does you can go on? Yeah, Well he's got
his Sometimes there's a budding superstar and single a dog.

Speaker 4 (01:23:20):
Is ready to be brought up, trying to get the
big show headed the international leagues. That some players, he's
got one in the KBL. Dude, got some players. Sometimes
you'll discover a real gym. Okay, that's exactly right.

Speaker 5 (01:23:34):
Hey you get him, get him under contract, it's good
to go. Sometimes you stick them all waivers, but get
him under contract contract.

Speaker 4 (01:23:41):
And the other times you got a d F A M.
Sometimes they don't.

Speaker 5 (01:23:47):
Been known to happen. Sometimes you waiver if you but
if you waiver wire them and nobody picks them up,
then they go right back to Triple A. Yeah they do.
But then they come back and you might have the
d f AM you waive them, then you might have
to make it just out outright release.

Speaker 4 (01:24:01):
Yeah, it's not like Raffael Montero dfhase and he takes
the waiver and he goes down to Triple A and
tries to get back up to the league.

Speaker 5 (01:24:07):
Sometimes you stick him on waivers. But sometimes it's just
an unequival, no doubt, like, hey, you got you gotta go. Sorry, yeah,
see you you're not making the ball club better.

Speaker 4 (01:24:17):
Oh let's get back out to the fun lights. Carl,
thanks for rolling. Good morning.

Speaker 21 (01:24:21):
Yeah, I'm old school, I'm with y'all.

Speaker 17 (01:24:24):
I'm on board.

Speaker 1 (01:24:24):
With y'all.

Speaker 21 (01:24:25):
Y'all were totally correct about the situation. Back in the day,
I'm an old man. When we practiced football, it was
a salt tablet and water out of the side of
a building and that was it, you know, and we
and atomic bomb. I don't even know if y'all remember
that stuff. Atomic bomb. It was like a greasy orange stuff.

(01:24:47):
It burned like the son of a gun. In fact,
they hang our shoulder pads and our jockey staffs and
everything in the locker room, and somebody went in there
and put a thin some of that atomic bomb on
every buys jock straps, some hot players and coach.

Speaker 17 (01:25:05):
No, you ain't leaving that deil.

Speaker 6 (01:25:08):
Yea that heavy heat on these didn't they these nuts?

Speaker 17 (01:25:15):
The more you the hotter it got.

Speaker 5 (01:25:17):
And the truth is, the more you run, the more
you like scrap, the more you touch it, I tell you,
like when you're like, oh my gosh, we've all been
there where people put like icy. Oh yeah, the more
you touch it, the more it hurts, the more burns. Hey,
you know anything about that heavy D.

Speaker 6 (01:25:32):
Heavy D's nuts.

Speaker 5 (01:25:35):
Thank you, Carl. You gotta keep going, love, Carl. Oh,
let's go as we transitioned to Holly. Actually in order
the longest wait, it's gonna be John.

Speaker 6 (01:25:45):
Okay, good bridge the Holly.

Speaker 5 (01:25:47):
There you go.

Speaker 6 (01:25:47):
Hey, what's up?

Speaker 7 (01:25:48):
John?

Speaker 4 (01:25:48):
Let me guess you haven't called it in a couple
of weeks because you've been climbing on roofs.

Speaker 8 (01:25:53):
O me.

Speaker 6 (01:25:55):
No the other John.

Speaker 10 (01:25:58):
Oh, I didn't hear the tone, so I didn't think
you were talking to me.

Speaker 6 (01:26:02):
Yeah, the tone and the tenor John from Neville? What's
happened to John?

Speaker 5 (01:26:08):
That's right, Bobo, you.

Speaker 17 (01:26:09):
Better give that call to the right introduction.

Speaker 10 (01:26:11):
That's okay, Okay, bro, Look here, man, I'll go back.

Speaker 1 (01:26:15):
Let me let me jump back a little bit real quick.

Speaker 5 (01:26:17):
Uh huh.

Speaker 17 (01:26:18):
So the past few callers have all hit the points.

Speaker 11 (01:26:21):
But the boys here six days a week, right, Sooner
or later you got to give guys days off, whether
you're working six days, seven days.

Speaker 10 (01:26:31):
If we ain't real from man, I'm out shredding, or
I'm out working at the deer leagues, I'm getting ready
for due season, or I'm praying passions. Sooner or later, man,
you've got to take a clear.

Speaker 1 (01:26:41):
The week ending. Man.

Speaker 11 (01:26:43):
I mean, I get it where I don't get what
the athletes is the basketball.

Speaker 10 (01:26:48):
You played two the season starts two three days.

Speaker 1 (01:26:53):
And then you need a day off already.

Speaker 10 (01:26:55):
Oh, I gotta have a day off, man. I played
two games in a row, three games in a row,
and the season is started. But like, this is a
this is a marathon. And yeah, bron I know you
hear them in the background banging.

Speaker 4 (01:27:05):
Yeah, you're you're You're on a job site right now,
aren't you.

Speaker 1 (01:27:09):
Yes, I am.

Speaker 10 (01:27:10):
I'm always on job sites unless I'm at the river.

Speaker 4 (01:27:13):
So are you telling me right now that you're your
roofing company is out there hand hand hammering these nails
in or there's certain.

Speaker 5 (01:27:19):
T and GF Shingle certified, Texas Windstorm certified too, and
they'll help you with navigation of your insurance claims. Yeah
you feel me, Johnny God.

Speaker 10 (01:27:28):
Yeah, Hey, but real quick though, man, I mean everybody
does me. I get it, man, And I mean the
boys are gonna have a long weekend on Labor Day
and all that. But you know, I mean, everybody's gon
any time off at this time of the year, and
I gotta go back now. At the beginning of the season,
I was one of those fans pissing and moaning and
whining and crying my cheerios about the Astros and I

(01:27:52):
got it. I said it, and I stick to my word.
They turned it around and I was wrong, just like
you know everybody else.

Speaker 1 (01:28:01):
You know, I mean, they pulled it off. They came
out of the cellar.

Speaker 10 (01:28:05):
Now, if they can hold on to it, that'll be
great and everything. But you know, Brian Wilma, Wilma does
want to know?

Speaker 6 (01:28:15):
What does Wilma want to know?

Speaker 10 (01:28:17):
That's taking your mouth?

Speaker 5 (01:28:22):
John, I'll tell you what if if loving you is wrong,
I don't want to be right, he said, you know
what you really If loving you is wrong, I don't
want to be right. I'll tell you what about my
guy John. By the way, did I mention that they're
locally owned and operated? You hear that roof being? You
see the here the gun? Don't you have that at

(01:28:44):
eight up?

Speaker 7 (01:28:45):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (01:28:45):
A little teaser. It's little teaser and John letting us know.
And John admitted, But I can tell you this. I
wanted to ask John. I'll ask you.

Speaker 6 (01:28:53):
He's right, you do need a day off? Would you take?
Would you would you be giving players day off with
thirty games to go.

Speaker 4 (01:28:58):
And live in give in the lead in the division
and given the part of the schedule that they're in,
absolutely not.

Speaker 5 (01:29:05):
Is it in the big scheme of things? Are we
probably overboard on it?

Speaker 6 (01:29:10):
Sure?

Speaker 4 (01:29:11):
Maybe a little bit.

Speaker 5 (01:29:11):
I thought I do a little bit. I just when
it's stuck in your DNA, it's hard to get out.
I'm always willing to listen to why with thirty one
games to go gay and he's deaf and al Tuv
is a grinder, I get it at this point in
time though, there can't be many more of them. How's that?
So they are going to win the division and they
are going to make the playoffs, and they are going
to be dangerous, but it's not overly comfortable.

Speaker 6 (01:29:31):
A three and a half. They've got two more with Philly.

Speaker 4 (01:29:33):
So they play Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday,
and then they're off Tuesday and then they get back
after a Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday against Cincinnati and Arizona. Good,
that'll be enough for us that Tuesday there you go
feel and then if you want to take a day off,
you play Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday against Oakland.

Speaker 5 (01:29:52):
And then you got to go to the h.

Speaker 4 (01:29:53):
But don't take Oakland for granted. This in the season,
you fool me and then you got Los Angeles. So
if you want a day off, take it against one
of them. That's all I'm saying. You know, figure it out,
Let's get to Holly, and then we're gonna get some
NFL Holly, Good morning.

Speaker 20 (01:30:06):
Good morning guys. I was just wondering. I had this
thought if the players, how much players can the players
push back on these days off? If it's the Spotts decision,
and you know, he comes to the clubhouse, makes the
lineup out and two day comes in see note lineup,
how can you go in the option and say, look, dude,
what I want to play? How much power I guess
do they have, especially this time of year and pushing

(01:30:28):
back on these days off?

Speaker 5 (01:30:30):
Holly, that's a hell of a point. We'll belabor that
a little bit when we come back from breaking. I'm
with you, I think real quick. I think depending on
your status as a player, I think you're going to
hear al Tuovay more than you would uh wait, then
you would a rookie, okay, And I think that you
know there's a pecking order, who pulls weight? If all

(01:30:52):
and We've heard this a million times in my career.
I mean meaning over the time of covering sports, where
a guy goes in one day off and he's in
and playing. Even with cal Ripken didn't when there many
times when guys when they were saying, hey, man, take
it dead, now I'm here to work and go.

Speaker 6 (01:31:05):
So I think the status of the player.

Speaker 5 (01:31:07):
If you go to a guy like Harper and say, dude,
take a day off and he battles with you, I
would imagine Harper is gonna win that battle, you know,
but it's just a good struggle and battle and the
respect that goes with it. But there are those times
too when they say, no, you're taking a day off, dude,
We're gonna guard you against yourself. But I do think
that there's some pull by players, depending on who you
are and how much weight you pull. If Altuve wanted

(01:31:29):
to play beyond belief last night, I mean I think
he wanted to play, But if he battled Joe over it,
I would imagine Joe would say, Okay, I mean you're
gonna you want to cater to your players who want
to play, but sometimes you got to be a manager
and make sure players sta out of their own way.
I think that's part of it.

Speaker 20 (01:31:43):
I just think this is the wrong time of year,
and I agree with what Brian just said. You're fixing
to play the A's and the Angels. Those are the
games you need to take off, not in this distrest
run where you're playing the Phillies and get the Royals.
But I was just wondering how much how much pool
they might having. Thanks for listening.

Speaker 5 (01:31:58):
Thank you, Ally like pound the table to say, I'm playing.
I can tell you this against Philadelphia, I don't think.

Speaker 6 (01:32:02):
It's time to rest.

Speaker 5 (01:32:03):
No, that's just me.

Speaker 4 (01:32:05):
Yeah, you gotta make me an off for the cameras.

Speaker 5 (01:32:07):
That's exactly right. But yeah, you know if you need rest,
resting against team you're supposed to beat, but don't take
it for granted. But in truth, hopefully guys stay solid
and ready to play the rest of this season.

Speaker 4 (01:32:16):
Hey, real quick, before we get to break. Greg Swindell,
Texas Longhorn. Lum obviously does a lot of broadcasting for
the Texas Longhorn seventeen years in Major League Baseball World
Series champ In two thousand and one, his daughter Brenna
was missing for a couple of days. They filed a
missing police report. They had this big search going on
for her. She has been found safe, yep, which.

Speaker 5 (01:32:35):
Is great news. Yeah, phenomenal and headed back home. Yeah,
so good for Greg and his family. I've made a
point of comment on it yesterday. When you see that
your gut. That cannot be a worse thing other than
losing a child. There cannot be a worse thing in
anybody's life than not knowing where your kid is. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:32:53):
And part of this, this whole thing was that her
ex boyfriend violent was charged with assault against her back
in July. They were last seen together, so you automatically
think the worst. But she has been found and he
just announced that on Twitter. So best case scenario for
the Swindell family. Just wanted to kind of get that
out there.

Speaker 5 (01:33:13):
Because closing news, that's a good thing.

Speaker 4 (01:33:17):
All right, Let's talk some NFL. Let's look at the
quarterback expectations. What do we expect from CJ. Stroud and
the rest of the top quarterbacks in the AFC. That's next.

Speaker 6 (01:33:27):
The most refreshing way to start your.

Speaker 3 (01:33:30):
Day, shower, shave and sean, they're done.

Speaker 6 (01:33:36):
The courtesy flush is old ways appreciated.

Speaker 5 (01:33:38):
Thank god, Thank the good Lord.

Speaker 3 (01:33:40):
Thank you from the management team here at Sports Talk
seven nineteen.

Speaker 6 (01:33:44):
Back to Sean Salisbury.

Speaker 5 (01:33:48):
What's that bad bunny rolls into dog on Esco? He'll
be badter bunny.

Speaker 6 (01:33:52):
Okay, there you go. I guess being a bad bunny
is better than being a good bunny. Yeah it is.
I guess how do you.

Speaker 4 (01:34:05):
Even come up with like, you know, you're like your
upbringing and you and you're ready to like make your
way into music, and you just sit back and you're like,
you know what, I'm gonna call myself bad bunny.

Speaker 6 (01:34:16):
Worked?

Speaker 5 (01:34:18):
Yep, it worked. How do you How do you like
a restaurant? How do sometimes when you go to a restaurant?
I say what the name? You're like, that's all when
you stop to ask the name and we're talking about it,
that's the reason you put certain I mean some have
meaning behind it, right of course. But I don't know
what his reason is along the line if he's if
if it was something he said, you know that sounds cool.
I'm gonna call myself bad bunny. That worked, But I

(01:34:44):
don't know what goes into it to me. If you're
if it's a song or if it's a name of
what you do. It's like something that's impacted you. Right,
restaurant has a meaning to you. I mean, okay, I
mean the most basic name in the world is for
like a restaurant is like in in Scottsdale, as I
know you're going to be there soon. Is cold Beer

(01:35:06):
and Cheeseburgers. That's the name of the place. What cold
beer and Cheeseburgers is it really? Yeah, cheeseburgers, cold beer Colby.
It's right there on scotts so you'll see it going there.
It's got big bar's got great burger. It's phenomenal burgers.
It's called cold Beer and cheeseburs. What do you have, Oh,
cold beer and cheeseburgers. And they got chickens out. But
that big old place right there in Scott's Stale, right,

(01:35:28):
I mean it's right in the hard old town, right
in old town.

Speaker 6 (01:35:30):
You can't miss it.

Speaker 5 (01:35:32):
Cold Beer and Cheeseburgers.

Speaker 4 (01:35:34):
Bad Bunnies began singing when he was young, and he
chose the stage name Bad Bunny after sharing an online
picture of himself as a child wearing a bunny suit
and having a grumpy expression on his face.

Speaker 5 (01:35:45):
There you go, There, you go. There, you go, and
some things don't even have to explain it. People like
just it's the name. And if you think about what
kind of merch would it look like? You could do
a lot with a bad bunny. You know what I'm saying.
If you want merch, the rest of it kind of
rolls off the time work for him? What did believe?

Speaker 6 (01:36:00):
What esto one? He gets?

Speaker 4 (01:36:03):
He wanted requests? The request line is opened seven seven
y here on a stormy morning in Houston.

Speaker 6 (01:36:10):
Is the right outside supposed to rain?

Speaker 5 (01:36:12):
Yeah? Cuts into my game?

Speaker 4 (01:36:13):
Yeah, well you ain't raining Birdie's dog.

Speaker 5 (01:36:15):
You know what? We I can't take it down. Maybe
I gotta go out and deal with You know what
did did Tiger Woods when you get ready for the Masters?
Quit hit beating balls out of the bunker when he
needed to go in at AUGUSTA.

Speaker 6 (01:36:26):
No, damn right, he did, not damn right.

Speaker 5 (01:36:28):
He played with a torn a c L And so
I gotta go in like a shredded knee. I don't
think I played. I don't think and playing for a
major though, but well, you get championships coming up, y
club championships right around the corner, damn right, and member
guests to coming.

Speaker 6 (01:36:44):
Yeah, it'll be coming around the bend. Listen, ain't for
the faint of heart send a bunker to your hands bleed.

Speaker 5 (01:36:50):
Right, you gonna do that?

Speaker 4 (01:36:52):
No, no, but you're not gonna make your hands bleed. No,
do that exactly, starts starts Conrad j I'm real quick,
Conrad James.

Speaker 22 (01:37:01):

mentioned something about Kahjunto. Why don't you try the Cajunto Cats.
They're from Segein. They're excellent, excellent, Okay, So I just
want to say that catch by Mauricio Dubon. We saw
a Willie Mace catch that that rates up for me

(01:37:24):
one of the greatest catches in baseball.

Speaker 6 (01:37:26):
And there spent a lot of them. And uh, go ascros.
The Phillies are a tough team.

Speaker 4 (01:37:32):

And g o.

Speaker 5 (01:37:53):
Yep, that's easy to spell, even if I I mean,
could you if I spot you the I and the G.

Speaker 6 (01:37:58):
It's still easy to spell in it.

Speaker 5 (01:38:00):
Yeah, there you go, Yeah pretty much.

Speaker 4 (01:38:02):
You're ady talk quarterback expectations. Yeah, I am around the league, Yes,
got it? Not just here in Houston, not just with CJ. Stroud,
not with Millsey, but all across the NFL. Let's talk
about it next.

Speaker 5 (01:38:14):
Let's talk about country boys roofing. You called John called in.
That's his business man. You heard that. You're the business
in the background too, getting done? How about that guys
got his crew working? Decides he wants to call in
about load management. Players need days off. His guys need
days off once in a while. Sometimes people are tired
and they're up there on that roof getting things done.
Country boys roofing country with the K Boys with a Z,

Speaker 4 (01:40:29):
White boy Wednesday? Uh huh redundant. Oh, let's see. Uh,
let's talk to Andre real quick, want's talk football?

Speaker 1 (01:40:40):
Aye? What you got?

Speaker 17 (01:40:42):
Hey, guys, I just it's nice being in the situation
we are with the Texans right now. Look look at
your wide receiving core. You're probably gonna cut Woods, Sims
and what's that crazy name they picked up the tall
white boys.

Speaker 6 (01:40:59):
Oh, Ben's h score Renick.

Speaker 17 (01:41:01):
Yeah, I'm glad you said it. Uh, those three guys
are gonna probably get cut, and all three of those
guys are gonna get picked up.

Speaker 1 (01:41:10):
As good as they're cut.

Speaker 17 (01:41:11):
They're gonna they're all three are gonna get picked up.
They're gonna probably, I don't know, they may cut Peers.
If they cut Piers, he's gonna get picked up.

Speaker 5 (01:41:20):
Yeah, that's a sign of a good roster, right where
your depth is so good that the guys you cut
in up on another roster. That that's that's important.

Speaker 17 (01:41:28):
That that is that that's very important. And that's where
we are right now. Uh that's a good feeling because
it's been a while since we've been in this situation.
And uh, I'll tell you if you know, I don't.
I don't know if you remember Sean, but when we're
talking about running back to the all season, I was yelling.

(01:41:49):
I didn't think they were gonna go after a big name,
but I was yelling for cam Makers because I knew
that guy. I was yelling for him before they even
got Singletary, because the guy can play, He's produced in
the NFL.

Speaker 6 (01:42:01):
And he knows this system.

Speaker 5 (01:42:02):
It fits him because that's what they did with the
Rams exactly right.

Speaker 17 (01:42:07):
And and look or anybody who can who still wants
to question Nick, they need to get a grip that
guy knows what he's doing. That is one of the
best g ms in football.

Speaker 21 (01:42:21):
He took a just he took a.

Speaker 17 (01:42:23):
Team that was so dismantled by O'Brien and oh, I
forgot the other guy. And I don't know, I mentioned.

Speaker 6 (01:42:31):
His name, David Kelly.

Speaker 17 (01:42:34):
Well, yeah, the GM.

Speaker 4 (01:42:38):
Rick Nick or not Jack East By.

Speaker 17 (01:42:45):
God, you said the things. See I didn't want to
see it.

Speaker 4 (01:42:47):
That's all right, dude, He's he's long gone. Man, he's
preaching somewhere. He's he he's lying to people with the fine.

Speaker 16 (01:42:54):
Team.

Speaker 17 (01:42:54):
That team. That team was like in disarray and Nick
came in here and year by year he has built
this and you got to give him some major, major
props and this still be a hell of the season.
I'm picking twelve.

Speaker 5 (01:43:10):
Fives like your style. Got that written down, thank you,
And he's right here in the memory right after twelve
and five for Andy liked the thought process. And I
can tell you this that Nick Caserio has proven. He's
had a few stumbles into one year coaches that he hired.
Other than that, all this ah, Nick Cassero. Nick Cassio

(01:43:30):
has been great for the Texas, the Houston Texans. He's
been great. And this relationship now is bringing we got
the best of a lot of worlds.

Speaker 11 (01:43:39):
Now.

Speaker 5 (01:43:39):
Oh yeah, I feel like the ownership is bought in
and got something going different. I feel like Nick Casserio,
we got a general manager in charge and we know
whose assignment and role as who's you got a head coach?
It's off the chart when he evaluates talent and knows
how to get people to play, and it filters right
on down. Nick Caserio, I told you last year, I
felt that that you could have easily voted him Executive

(01:44:01):
of the Year and not bat it an eye. And
so all those years and under you know Belichick and learning,
Nick Cassaria has put himself in position to warrant the
money he's being paid in football terms. Good for him.
And now the next step is build another championship team,
which he was part of quite a few of them
in New England, and an opportunity to build one here

(01:44:23):
and they are not far away. I'm just telling you
they may not be ready now, but I tell you
what they are going to be. They're going to make
it miserable on you to get there. Starting with the
quarterback here in Houston, what are your expectations for CJ.

Speaker 6 (01:44:38):
Stroud?

Speaker 5 (01:44:39):
Well, you know nationally, they were on the show yesterday
were talking about who's got the biggest expectations in the league.
What quarterback? Right, Let's if I say, Josh Allen, we
have expectations for him to go win a superl Yes,
all the guys who haven't won one that are good players,
Prescott and Cousins, and the list goes on and on.
Rock Purty, I mean, although he's only been doing it
two years, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, those names. But my

(01:45:03):
expectations of Lamar Jackson, he's been the MVP twice, is
to be in the run for the third MVP and
to go do his thing. Right now, if you say, well,
the one thing I don't know if it's expectation, but
one thing he's got to do to elevate like Josh Allen,
Dak Prescott, like Cousins, is to win in January and
have a chance to play in February. Fair enough, But
expectations when we say, okay, here's the expectations placed on

(01:45:27):
a quarterback that we've seen flashes of. But I even
have higher expectations on them. But you get where I'm
going with this. You have expectations from Mahomes, Yes, but
he's already exceeded expectations. So with that in mind, I
got a handful of guys, and a couple of them,
my expectations for CJ. Stroutt is to play better and

(01:45:48):
even be taking another step where the light switch goes
on even more mentally when I say football like you,
it's not that he didn't have it, It's just I
just can't begin to tell people enough that the difference
in fucking off the field at the end of a
rookie year and walking into a field or onto a
field and practice in camp and training camp in.

Speaker 6 (01:46:07):
Your second year is an enormous difference.

Speaker 5 (01:46:10):
I'm telling you that, just the thought process of studying
in the off season, in the verbiage and it's the
year two and the confidence that goes with it. He'll
be a different player now. I don't know what the
numbers are going to look like. He'll be a better player, though,
So when it comes to expectations, for me, if there's
three guys in the league that we that we've seen
do good things, but the expectations are through the roof,

(01:46:32):
aside from the guys we've already seen reached those expectations
at aren't a Mahomes now in the top of the
league Rogers, matter of fact, he might be one with expectator.
You could put him in this list because of coming
off the injury at his age and leaving Green Bay.
The expectations are for him, you better get him in
a super Bowl or it was a bad deal after
missing last year. I think the top two in the
AC and NFC for me are Jordan Love and c J. Stroud.

(01:46:57):
And here's why not. Expectation can't get to them. But
after one year of starting, they have put up such
great football did. My expectations now are that both Jordan
Love and c J. Stroud are going to be in
the MVP talk, that they're going to have their teams
in a playoffs and with Texans, because I think Detroit's
the team to beat in that division in the NFC,

(01:47:18):
with the Texans, they're the favorite. And he is the
best quarterback in the division. Love Goff's got some numbers.
He's put up pretty good player, right, I mean you
can make that argument for him, right, I mean, look
what he's done with that team, right, A young Caleb Williams.
But and Caleb wants to have the type of season
c J. Stroud had, I'm sure. So my expectations for well,
the expectation are there, like Ken Lamar Jackson win an

(01:47:39):
MVP and a Super Bowl in the same year. The
boom expectations of worse two agoing their expectations for me.
Guys that showed me exceeded it in their first year starting,
and we still expect far more because it's only been
one year and we think there's more.

Speaker 6 (01:47:55):
I would expect at the end of this year that
both Jordan Love and c J.

Speaker 5 (01:47:59):
Stroud want not only be in a NFC Love Pro Bowl,
the Pro Bowl is that big a deal to me
that we will be talking about these guys as if
in the same breath you talk about we're already are,
but I'm talking about to to elevate and repeat it
and sustain it. Those two the expectations because if you
tell me there's nobody to expects CJ. Stroud to have

(01:48:21):
a phenomenal season and some say slump, you could say
the same for it's a sophomore slump as far as
a starter for Love, even though he's been a league longer.
So to me, the expectations because think about what CJ.
Stroud here is done. So not only am my expectations
big for him in this city, I think nationally and
I think my expectations for him that there's a lot

(01:48:42):
of pressure that I think he can handle, but the
expectations are through. If the dude's already been talked about
as a top six or seven quarterback in this league
and he's played fifteen games in the regular season, those
aren't expectations. And in this city, not one soul has
it the expectation he's going to take a step back.
My expectation are both of them. At some point during

(01:49:02):
the year, we're gonna be saying, chance to win the MVP.
Six games in, Love's having a great start, seven games
in c J. Stroud's leading the AFC and in yards
per game. At the end of the season, the expectates
for me that they will both meet them whatever though
now eight thousand yards past you talk, I'm talking about realistic, fair,
but I actually think they're going to exceed really realistic.

(01:49:23):
I think they're that good. The guy we got in
this town. Now, if he makes the same quantum leap
from his from Ohio State to his rookie year, from
his rookie year to his second year, you're looking at
we are going to be talking about him even to
the point where you can't keep him out of your
top five. Yeah, you just can't.

Speaker 4 (01:49:42):
Yeah, Dan Orlovski put up his elite quarterback list, Uh,
yesterday and he had c J. Stroud on that list.

Speaker 5 (01:49:51):
But I'm telling you right now, the nationally, the expectations
for Jordan Love are through the roof. Yeah, listen, everybody
has expectation for their quarterback. Say, I actually still think
the guy who's under a ton of pressure and has expectations,
you know, he got paid.

Speaker 6 (01:50:04):
I need to know who who?

Speaker 5 (01:50:05):
Who?

Speaker 6 (01:50:06):
Trevor Lawrence is this year?

Speaker 1 (01:50:08):
C J.

Speaker 5 (01:50:09):
Stroud expectations a lot for Richardson and Will Levice. There's
no bigger expectations in this league than c J. Stroud
and Jordan Love. How about that. That's even a better
way for me to put it. Yeah, I think that's
I think that's fair.

Speaker 4 (01:50:20):
Let's let's continue to talk about this quarterback and discussion.
Let's look across the league and some other expectations. That's
next right here on Sports Talk sevent to eighty.

Speaker 6 (01:50:29):
This Sean Salisbury Show continues to continue. Not to be
confused with Aaron Judge.

Speaker 5 (01:50:35):
And not to be confused with the best day of
the week Tejon on Tuesday, damn right until Wednesday and
Thursday and Friday.

Speaker 6 (01:50:41):
Every day is the best day.

Speaker 4 (01:50:42):
Yeah, six feet above because it's another day. You're above dirt,
You're ready to pay those bills.

Speaker 5 (01:50:47):
Why do you check? What are you checking me out for?

Speaker 6 (01:50:48):
I was looking at your belt? Why do you keep
checking with? Oh?

Speaker 5 (01:50:51):
Sorry, but there you go, that's all right. Why do
you keep checking me out? I don't know why you're
trying to put it pants sound. It's kind of weird, man,
It's just weird how you're checking me out. Man, stay
on a Tuesday. You know, all bets are off, and you.

Speaker 6 (01:51:03):
Got a pulse, don't you again?

Speaker 4 (01:51:06):
Yeah? Seven one two five seven Gilbert, Good morning, Good morning?

Speaker 5 (01:51:15):
What's on your mind? Gilbert?

Speaker 17 (01:51:18):
Well, it's not gonna tell him earlier about the hoddle.

Speaker 23 (01:51:21):
I like that that YO got to handle and you
know that well they baby.

Speaker 1 (01:51:25):
You know what that is?

Speaker 5 (01:51:28):
Hopefully not dirty?

Speaker 23 (01:51:30):
No, No, that's a San Antonio national anthem.

Speaker 5 (01:51:36):
That's pretty funny.

Speaker 6 (01:51:37):
Damn.

Speaker 5 (01:51:38):
I was thinking he was gonna say, well, you know,
I know what k Passel means. But I thought he
was some meaning behind the song he said in San
Antonio's national anthem. Oh that's funny.

Speaker 4 (01:51:49):
A lot of big women out there, Gilbert.

Speaker 5 (01:51:52):
But you know, hey, that's okay.

Speaker 1 (01:51:54):
No, I want to talk about how the Technic.

Speaker 17 (01:51:56):
Is gonna do this year.

Speaker 1 (01:51:57):
I think they're gonna be good. I mean we beaped
up there everything, and you're right about Uh. What I
like about an organization is that just like you.

Speaker 23 (01:52:05):
Said, everybody has their their their job that they do.
Our owner does they get it? I mean involved with
the plays. He doesn't he get involved like Jerry Johnson does.
He wants to be in the spot. I already I
was a Cowboy fan, but he's also a Texas fan.
But I already told him, I said, you and my
son even told me Dad.

Speaker 5 (01:52:22):
If you know, i'mbout a die hard Cowboy fan.

Speaker 1 (01:52:24):
But I think the Texans going to get the Super
Bowl before the Cowboys do. Jerry Jones don't need the people, don't.
They never going to get there?

Speaker 5 (01:52:31):
I think most of us do. And Gilbert thanks for
the call, man, great stuff. I think, uh did most
people around, whether your Cowboys fan or not, thinks the
Texans are a better team. The Cowboys are good, but
I think the Texans are going to get there too.
I mean if they if you had to choose one
to get there and you had a better futures, bet
on it, you bet am I so, and I am

(01:52:55):
a big guy on defining people's roles. If you don't
define roles, I don't know how you do it. And
I think here before you know, at times when Bill
O'Brien was here and all the stuff in the front
office and even ownership, I think there was I don't
think I think they were in that maze like on
the Shining with Jack Nicholson, where it's like it's everywhere
and you can't quite find where you're going and who's
got what assignment, and you know, just when you don't

(01:53:17):
know what you're supposed to do or what your role is,
it's hard to fill it. And I think here that
I think they have established the fact this boom boom
doesn't mean you can't be versatile. But I think knowing
what your role is when you come to the building
every day, player and front office and coaching staff, I
think defines is when you define those roles makes you

(01:53:38):
a more efficient, better football team and know how to
fix bad stuff that happens or bad plays that happen
quicker than if you don't know the role. And that
starts right at the top of the ownership. And I'll
tell you what this is is clued in as this
ownership has ever had as I've been here ever, and
there's no doubt I think definitely since Bob McNair passed,
this is the most clued in, the most.

Speaker 4 (01:53:58):
Up to date and having fuel for an organization in
the league that cal McNair has ever been.

Speaker 5 (01:54:05):
Bob McNair, Rick Smith did some great things, Kubiak did
some really good things, but as a whole aligned right now,
ownership GM head, coach, quarterback and then build from there.
I'll say one more time, Steelers Patriots teams, forty nine Ers,
teams that consistently win, have continuity in a lot of

(01:54:27):
those places, consistently win, and the chief's been in place. Yep.
When the Patriots are winning, they were in place and
they defined roles. It's just say it goes on and on.
The Steelers over the course of time have done it.
The forty nine Ers have done it. Now they're going
to have a bad season here and there, but you
define it and the continuity from top all the way

(01:54:48):
down to me, it's not a Baltimore Ravens Ozzie k
Newsom what they built there. When's the last time Steve
Bashatti got involved in anything you see.

Speaker 4 (01:54:58):
I don't think I've ever seen his name. Rare, right, yeah,
very rare.

Speaker 5 (01:55:01):
It's front office coach players, define what you're doing and
go win. And every year they're in it, Buffalo does
a nice job. They just can't close it out right
now right, can't win in January. That's exactly right. So
to me, that's important. And the Texans are the newest,
the newest group to the radio.

Speaker 6 (01:55:18):
This is this grit. They're doing it the right way now.

Speaker 5 (01:55:20):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:55:20):
And speaking of general managers and doing it better than anybody,
Jerry Jones, that's some. That's some things to say about
him being a jan I think.

Speaker 5 (01:55:30):
Jerry takes it a little personal when you question his
GM ship.

Speaker 4 (01:55:34):
I think, so, yeah, what did Jerry Jones say?

Speaker 5 (01:55:37):
Uh?

Speaker 4 (01:55:37):
They also signed CD Lamb to a big time contract.
But Jerry Jones dropping an f couple F bombs in
a uh in an article in regards to him being
the general manager.

Speaker 6 (01:55:46):
What do you say we'll discuss it next.

Speaker 5 (01:55:47):
Well, you'll probably drop in some F bombs if you're
feeling sluggish or down and you wake up again, Well,
I'm telling you, I'm giving you the answers to your test.
We found the conflict. The conflict, you're sluggish, maybe the
sexual wellness isn't there, and it may be something of
full body wellness, which is what Men's Tea Clinics built
on ten year anniversary, Dallas, Fort Worth and here in Houston,

(01:56:10):
five convenient locations. They're built on full body wellness. Now,
a lot of people think low testosterone sexual wellness isn't good,
and that may be the case. But when you know
the conflict, meaning what the problem is, whether it's sluggish
or lack of energy or lack of sexual wellness or
full body wellness, and you think, well, where do I
go to get this fixed well? Men's Tea Clinics pretty simple, right,
Go in, draw a little blood. By the end of

(01:56:30):

normalize in it gets you aut a lower gear, get
all twelve cylinders working and boom, let's go. You want
a HEMI underneath the hood, Men's Ta Clinics are HEMI

So it has been a life changer for many and
in some cases I'm sure life's savor because they get
themselves back and that they get to apply doing what

(01:56:53):
they want to do every single day without being sluggish
and losing that energy, because you know how that is.
That's a fast fall. If you're not feeling in adjust
your testosteron, let's get you out of lower gear. Let's
get it normalized, and it's simple with the best on
the planet, Men's Tea Clinic, and let's put that Hemnie

(01:58:16):
Ryan Lima, go Lobos. This is the Sean Salisbury Show.

Speaker 4 (01:58:24):
We're gonna talk Cowboys and Jerry Jones. He had a
sit down with Clarence Hill Junior, and Clarence Hill writes
for the Cowboys. He has been up in that area

(01:58:46):
since nineteen ninety seven writing for I Believe. I want
to make sure I.

Speaker 5 (01:58:53):
Get a long time He's a long time Dallas guy,
the fort Worst Star Telegram, YEP, longtime journalist. And Jerry
Jones's some some pretty.

Speaker 4 (01:59:06):
Good things to say. And he was asked why or
how long will you remain as the Cowboys GM, and
he said, quote, there's nobody that can effing come in
here and be a GM any better than I can.

Speaker 5 (01:59:23):
End quote. I've built this me brick bock brickh.

Speaker 4 (01:59:32):
Okay, let me here's another quote. Here's a good one.
Here's a good one.

Speaker 6 (01:59:35):
Quote. I've done it all. So I have.

Speaker 4 (01:59:39):
An ordinate amount of confidence that that U F word
if anybody can figure out how to get this blank done,
I can figure out how to get it done. I've
been there every which way from Sunday, and I have
busted my ass a bunch a bunch. And there's nobody
living that's out cutting and shooting that can't give you

(01:59:59):
a bunch of times they busted their ass. So hell no,
there's nobody that could e fin come in here and
do all the contracts and be a better GM, any
better than I can.

Speaker 6 (02:00:10):
I've built it. End quote final quote. Here we go.

Speaker 4 (02:00:15):
Two more, two more because it's good hold on and
quote Plus, I'm where the bucks stops. When it f's up,
I got to cover it. And so there you can't
give anybody enough, can't give there's nobody that can do it.
I F and have had hundreds of bad days. I'm
emotional about it sometimes. Well, running this thing, that's who
I want to make the last call now when I

(02:00:36):
can't f and think when I'm old and I can't
even do it. But I'm a long way from not
being able to do it too.

Speaker 5 (02:00:42):
End quote. Well, there's a couple of things. One a
lot of good f bumps. Yeah I wish I could
say them, but or I wish we had the sound
where we could actually play them. With him saying them,
so after hear what it sounds like, I would like to, Uh,
there may be somebody who, you know, Jerry's riot. He's
put a lot of time in There may be somebody
who knows that scout town a little better than he does.

(02:01:03):
He had one named Jimmy Johnson. Correct, they're also maybe
in now there's nobody that markets his team or more
fervently than this guy. Maybe the best marketer in the world. Right,
Oh yeah, guy's phenomenal. But I think he's he takes
offense to being questioned about that. I can tell you this,
Jerry Jones will not quit be in the gym until

(02:01:24):
he dies. Correct, he is whenever that is, if it's
thirty years aroun and he's never going to sell the Cowboys.
He's going to keep in the family and Steven and
all them and his daughter and son, they're going to
get the team when he passes away. He's going to
stay in the Jones family because he's a that's who
he is, and he's not giving up the gamrole. He's
got enough money, no problem that that franchise. By the

(02:01:46):
time five years from now, that franchise will be worth
twelve million bucks, fifteen million bucks, whatever it is. Whatever
the constant elevation and the constant percentage of growth that
seems to have NFL teams and the Cowboys are always
at the top up of it because they're the Dallas Caviaties.
He's not giving up the GM role ever. I can
argue that, you know, does he. I love the fact

(02:02:06):
that he said the buck stops with me, meaning if
it's a bad decision, it's on me, not anybody else's.
When it comes to personnel decisions that I'm with, I'm okay.
Then doesn't get lost, you know, it goes right to
that guy. He made the decision. But Jerry may have
too many skinned, too many chefs in his kitchen. Does
that make sense with him? I'm talking about his own

(02:02:28):
in his own world, not with all the chefs. Yet
he's the chef on about fifty different things, right, so
that may be too much. I think a GM probably
would have gone out and got more done this offseason
for them. They made one move, right. I respect Jerry,
I do a ton and I like him and now
he's been nothing but good to me. But I can
tell you this, I can probably find somebody's a better GM.
Now when it comes to negotiating contracts our hands that

(02:02:50):
he does it in a different way. There's somebody out
there who knows how to scout talent better than Jerry
does all the other things. Fine, Marketer or the rest
of it. But if you're looking for Jerry to give
it up, you'll die before that.

Speaker 4 (02:03:02):
I'm where the buck stops.

Speaker 5 (02:03:03):
Yeah, he's not. He's not.

Speaker 6 (02:03:04):
When he dies is when he's no longer the gym.

Speaker 4 (02:03:07):
I f and have had hundreds of bad days Sean,
and may be emotional maybe okay for the Cowboys.

Speaker 6 (02:03:12):
He'll live till he's like a buck thirty.

Speaker 5 (02:03:13):
That's right, he'll be one hundred and fifty and say
I'm still not old. I'm not old. But Jack Prescott,
tru Troy, come on, Dak Prescott's still my quarterback till
our quarterback seventy four.

Speaker 4 (02:03:25):
I don't care. Cooper rush is steal the backup. He's
done a nass.

Speaker 5 (02:03:28):
Jack Cooper's had a thirty year backup career as a
quarterback and I'm on year fifty eight.

Speaker 4 (02:03:33):
I still I have my bad days. I'm emotional about
it sometimes running this thing. That's who I want to
make the last call me nobody else, not even Steven.

Speaker 5 (02:03:43):
Dude, you think if you dropping up bo when he
goes into the crib and course himself a nice little
uh little bourbon. Yeah he's thirty, right, I have the
best yet? Oh yeah, but that's okay. That's what makes
Jerry Jones him.

Speaker 4 (02:03:54):
They're probably they're probably he's probably yelling at himself in
the mirror. Who do they think they are?

Speaker 5 (02:03:58):
Jerry?

Speaker 6 (02:03:59):
They're not you? I am Jerry.

Speaker 5 (02:04:02):
Unfortunately, Jerry thinks Emmitt, Troy and Michael still play for
them and that group. So a lot of respect I do. Listen,
he's a he's fun fodder on these shows. I do
have a lot of respects because there is no question
about it. And the truth is, Dude, he's put in.
He's got a lot of skin in the game, right,
He's he's put some time in.

Speaker 6 (02:04:22):
Yeah, just ask him.

Speaker 5 (02:04:26):
I I could argue with Jerry over the could somebody
do the general manager job better?

Speaker 7 (02:04:31):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (02:04:31):
I know a couple.

Speaker 5 (02:04:34):
Yeah, so, but I have no argument with what what
how important the Cowboys are to him? I honestly believe
that that mad as important as anything in his life.

Speaker 6 (02:04:45):
Are those Cowboys?

Speaker 4 (02:04:46):
I couldn't know but you look at the lack of
moves that they made in the off season. A good
GM doesn't allow that. A good GM goes and makes
more moves.

Speaker 5 (02:04:56):
And then and then ask more of your players that
to did the expectations to go up? Yet the talent
around him not match it? Right, But you do got
to give him credit.

Speaker 6 (02:05:06):
He did.

Speaker 4 (02:05:07):
He did get ceedee Lamb signed to a new contract
and paid him handsomely four years, one hundred and thirty
six million dollar deal. I think a hundred of it
is guaranteed.

Speaker 5 (02:05:15):
Yeah, he just here's and he got a damn near
what a forty million dollars signing.

Speaker 6 (02:05:19):
Forty eight million dollars signing bone.

Speaker 5 (02:05:20):
The largest non quarterback signing bonus ever is.

Speaker 4 (02:05:23):
Yes, No, it's a second highest paid non QB in
NFL history.

Speaker 5 (02:05:27):
Second, that's why I said non QB correct. Second, Yeah,
but I think his signing bonus was that the second
highest or the big The biggest is his signing The.

Speaker 4 (02:05:37):
Four year, one hundred and thirty six million dollar deal
is the one that makes him the second highest paid
non QB.

Speaker 5 (02:05:41):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (02:05:42):
The signing bonus is the largest ever given to a watch.

Speaker 5 (02:05:44):
That's what I was saying. Non quarterback, correct and large
may maybe maybe Aaron Donald got more. I don't know
somebody else did. But when it comes to wide receiver,
that's a large signing signing bonus, right, is what I was.
What I said. So, but with that one thing about Jerry,
you're working on his time clock. Muh, you're working on
his time clock, and that's why it's always going to be. Yeah,
there's no doubt. And it's rare that the owner is

(02:06:05):
the face of the organization. We mentioned Steve Bushatti and
I if he walked in here, would you know what
he looked like? I would, I would not know. Okay,
Oh Jerry walked in here? You know what he looked like?

Speaker 6 (02:06:14):
Oh yeah.

Speaker 5 (02:06:15):
When the owners the face of the organization, not because
they're a billionaire, but because they've immersed themselves into daily operations,
it's probably I usually like it to be a player.
Does that make sense? Would you call him Jerry or
mister Jones? I call him Jarah, Hey, Jara, welcome in.
I call him Jerry for Jera though, I like Jarah.

(02:06:37):
Who's the face of the Can't City chiefs? Patrick Mahons
mahme even with Andy Reid? Right, Yeah, yes, now you
see him in the stands. But if Jackson Mahomes if no,
not him, if Hunt walked in here. I know what
his daughter looks like because she's all over social media, right.
But my point is is that you'd know him if

(02:06:59):
he said but my I would know Jail right, Yeah,
I would not know most owners you wouldn't know. No, correct,
you say, well, I don't know what's the owner for
the Jags shot dot com. I know he because I've
seen him. No paid you know craft, Yeah, I know, yeah,
but those are those are the guys that are out
in the public essentially, But most of your great teams

(02:07:20):
in any sport, the face of this franchise in Houston
with baseball is not Joe Spatta. It's probably it's Jose
al Two Bay. It's players, Yeah, in Dallas, it's Jerry.
In Oakland, I mean in Las Vegas it's I'm not
sure they have with still Al Davis actually, and he's
not alive, and it's I guess Mark Daves now, but
hopefully they're trying to find that.

Speaker 6 (02:07:40):
But my point is is that.

Speaker 5 (02:07:42):
Jerry wants to be and is and will always be
the face of this franchise. While he's alive and that
may be fifty more years, much to your chagrin. But
Jerry ain't given this up.

Speaker 4 (02:07:52):
No, did you see Trey Lance had five interceptions over
the weekend?

Speaker 5 (02:07:56):
Well, the forty nine ers just got out in front
of what they know. Trey Lance is not a starting
quarterback right now in the NFL. Fuck yeah, whenever. If
you were wondering if Trey Lancer brock Purty's better and
why they why they moved it on and it's a
preseason game, I get it. But and maybe Trey Lance
will end up being great, But make no mistake, Trey
Lance is not taking Dak Prescott's job.

Speaker 4 (02:08:17):
No, Okay, that's not happening.

Speaker 5 (02:08:18):
When I hear it, Well, we got Trey Lance and yeah,
and I mean you got a guy mm hmm with potential.

Speaker 6 (02:08:24):
How many of those dudes are out there?

Speaker 4 (02:08:25):
Yeah, staying where everywhere, staying with quarterbacks. What will Demico
Ryans and the Texans do with their quarterback room outside
of C. J. Stroud, Davis Mills, Tim Boyle and case Keenum.
Those cuts are coming today, what's it going to look like?
That's next?

Speaker 3 (02:08:44):
H Towns Most Complete Breakfast Klatches Breakfast tacos and Sean
Salisbury steak.

Speaker 6 (02:08:52):
Don't forget to book a few air holes. You'll be
cleaning that microwave, trust me more Sean right now on
Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 4 (02:09:01):
He joins the show every single Wednesday at nine thirty
Texans with some roster cuts they're gonna have to make
by three pm today, And one of the questions is
what are they gonna do with that quarterback room outside
of C. J.

Speaker 6 (02:09:14):
Strouds.

Speaker 4 (02:09:14):
This shroud obviously the start, but then you have Davis Mills, Case, Keenum,
Tim Boyle, all vying for two spots. Demiko Ryans yesterday
speaking to the media, said they are still working through
the third quarterback situation and they'll figure it out tomorrow afternoon,
which is today.

Speaker 5 (02:09:33):
For my money, Stroud, Mills, Keenum keep the three. I'll
disrespect Tim Boyle if you want to. You're not gonna
keep four. I want fifty three best players. You think
Boil is better than Keenum right now? Yes, you do?

Speaker 4 (02:09:55):
I do because of youth. That's the only reason why.

Speaker 5 (02:09:57):
Okay, for one more year? Yeah so you okay, Game eight,
you gotta go. You gotta win four games and lost four.
You're giving Boyle a better chance to win those four
than than h case Keenum experience and all that. I
don't win. You got to win him. Who do you want?

Speaker 4 (02:10:13):
So Davis Mills isn't available, The Mills has got to
pulled hanmy okay, yeah, probably ride with Tim Boyle. To
be honest with you, I mean, I get the experienced
factor from case Keenum, but that dude's arm is holding
on by a thread, and I think I don't.

Speaker 5 (02:10:26):
Don't you think I.

Speaker 6 (02:10:26):
Meant to be less expensive?

Speaker 4 (02:10:28):
This is yeah, And this is where I obviously want
to get your expertise on it is If that is
a case, don't you think they would They would have
to change the offense a bit because case Keams obviously
not seejes Stroud, neither's Tim Boyle when they werely heavier
on a run game.

Speaker 5 (02:10:43):
The truth is, over the course of time, a healthy
Mills is your backup. Yes, that's but if you think
youth it put it this way. If age or if
you've gotten to the point where you think the age
is has diminished case Keenum's ability to make throws that
he has to make, then you keep the younger guy,
and you keep him there and in truth.

Speaker 6 (02:11:02):
I hate to say this, but you hope he doesn't
have to see the field.

Speaker 5 (02:11:04):
Yeah, that's that's because of you hope he and he's
never going to see the field if Stroud's who Stroud is, right,
He's just not. Now, let me ask you this, if
they trade, if they were to trade, Davis Mills, who
you want is your backup?

Speaker 6 (02:11:23):
That's about it. That's why I'm asking. Here's why you can't.

Speaker 5 (02:11:25):
You can't according to your your feelings, the way you feel,
you can't.

Speaker 6 (02:11:29):
Trade Davis Smiths.

Speaker 5 (02:11:30):
No, you can't, David because you don't think case Keenan
is even the third guy. And you don't want Tim
Boyle right now, no disrespect as your second guy that
you're relying on a playoff run. Not that he couldn't,
but but it's a little unknown, fair enough, and we've
seen some experience from case King's been in the playoff
games then started them.

Speaker 6 (02:11:47):
But he's getting a little older.

Speaker 5 (02:11:49):
But what he lacks and maybe physical skill, I still
know mentally he can get me through it. That's that's
a big concern. Having played that position in December, I'm
just trying to get a guy. Can you get me
to the finished drive? The bus. That's what Danny Green
used to always say, right, get us home safely. It's
like we saw last year. I mean he made.

Speaker 6 (02:12:05):
They scared, but get us home safely.

Speaker 7 (02:12:07):
Right.

Speaker 4 (02:12:07):
He made the throws necessary against the Titans in that
crazy ass game, which they won by a.

Speaker 5 (02:12:12):
But you're gonna be able to squeeze anymore. He's not
gonna be able to make the throws that you're starting.
Makes sense why he's not the starter. But that's why
I ask forget who the third guy is. If you
trade Davis Mills, are you comfortable in your backup position now? No,
not at all. Well, then there's your answer what you wanted. Yeah,
I want Davis Mills as my backup. Then you got
to decide is it more money or an experience or
younger legs and younger arm. Yeah for your third guy,

(02:12:33):
that you hope, by God's grace, that not disrespect to them,
but that you're protecting your quarterback. They never see the field,
that's what you're hoping other than a kneel down at
the end of a game when you won forty eight
to three.

Speaker 6 (02:12:46):
Other than that, you don't want to see the field.

Speaker 4 (02:12:48):
And I think that's obviously if Demico Ryans is telling
the me yesterday they got to work through the third
quarterback situation. I think that's what they're discussing. Yeah, Tim
Boyle has been in the league. Let's see one, two, three, four, five,
five years.

Speaker 6 (02:12:58):
Yeah, which is.

Speaker 5 (02:13:00):
A lot of people think he's like a second or
third was with the Jets at one point.

Speaker 4 (02:13:03):
He was with Green Bay for two years, then Detroit,
then Chicago, then the Jets's he was in. He's appeared
in twenty games total in his career, so not a
lot of starting experience or even game experience.

Speaker 5 (02:13:13):
He's going to be a career journeyman. But that doesn't
mean he can't play. I don't mean that, but here
he's never going to play if c J. Stroud stays healthy, right,
whether he's the back or the third guy, that's right.
But if you trade Davis Mills, you've got to be
awfully sure that you're comfortable with your second guy because
it's hard to play seventeen games man. Hopefully Strout will

(02:13:35):
be one that does. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (02:13:36):
And also, I mean, you know, you just look at again.
I know it's preseason, but in the final preseason game,
I feel like Tim Boyle looked better than Shid.

Speaker 5 (02:13:44):
And the truth is five years into the league, even
though he's been in a bunch of different systems, which
is not a bad thing because you learn versatility and
you learn how to study quick so you can you know,
get get the mental part and the grind down is.

Speaker 6 (02:14:00):
Five years in the league. We can't make the excuse
he's young anymore. No, he can't. He is young, but
he can't make this so well. He's a rookie league.

Speaker 5 (02:14:05):
He's seen enough football from the sidelines and a little
bit in the game. Maybe not a lot of high
stress situations, but he's seen enough football to where if
I'm as head coach and I keep him, what it'll
tell you is that Demiko Ryans and this staff and
Bobby Slowick trust that he can go in there if
something were to happen and take care of the football.

Speaker 6 (02:14:26):
That's what you're looking for in your third guy.

Speaker 5 (02:14:27):
He's either a prospect that down the road's going to
be really good, or he's a guy that if something happens,
because that could I trust him to hold down the
fort for a game. I didn't say necessarily win me
a game, meaning because of him, but don't lose me.

Speaker 4 (02:14:40):
A game, right, that's what you're looking for in that guy.

Speaker 14 (02:14:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (02:14:44):
I just I think as we get to this deadline
today at three o'clock, I mean obviously as when we
get off of air, you'll see more transactions made for
the Texans and all these cuts and things like that.
It's not just the quarterback room where you got to
figure out who's your third quarterback. It's the wide receiver
room what you're gonna have to make some cuts with two.

Speaker 6 (02:15:02):
Which is a very crowded room.

Speaker 4 (02:15:04):
Yeah, there's some talent that's in that crowded room, right,
I mean you've got like, what are they gonna do.

Speaker 6 (02:15:11):
Somebody's gonna get a couple good receivers that they cut.

Speaker 4 (02:15:13):
Yeah, Metchi, Exavier Hutchinson, Robert Woods, Steven Simms, Sco Sco Renac. Yeah,
like there's I think Hutchinson makes the team. I really
don't know what they're gonna do with what's his name,
John Metchie, I really don't. I mean, you saw some
some good things from him, you saw some drops. You know,

(02:15:34):
he's still making it back from everything that he went through.
So can he be.

Speaker 5 (02:15:39):
I think to play more? Yeah, some if it's not
here Mechi'll get better with more reps. And he's not
going to see the field right now, right now, as
much as that I'm sure he'd like to see it.
And how do you come out of college have been
fully healthy with the knee and not going through the
unfortunate circumstances of his health that he went through. John
Metchi may already be a player in the league, he's

(02:16:01):
still trying to find his way and if it's not
here because he's not getting reps, and do him a
favorite and ship him somewhere so he can go play,
because I do believe somebody jump all over he was
a first round talent that's had unfortunate health issues since then.
He's trying to find his way back. Not an excuse,
is just a fact. So I do I think Mechi
can play? Yes, so that room's crowded. Let me ask

(02:16:22):
you real quick. Yeah, from the last of one, you
asked me expectations in the league. What are your expectations
of CJ Stroud? True heartfelt fan expectations, not hyperbole media expectations.

Speaker 4 (02:16:32):
Like for me And I don't want this to sound
like a hot take, but I just really think he's
gonna absolutely light it up and The reason why I
say that is because this is a guy that was
at at Ohios And again I know that you know what,
we're getting ready to go to break and I got.

Speaker 6 (02:16:45):
Up some finish thought, yeah when we come back.

Speaker 5 (02:16:47):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (02:16:48):
So I just think with him playing in Ohio State
and him dealing with like three or four bad ass
wide receivers and having to balance the ego, the egos
and balance the the the work for all those guys
is going to pay dividends.

Speaker 6 (02:17:02):
For all the guys.

Speaker 5 (02:17:02):
Just throwing it to the open guy, the right guy
getting involved and real quick with that. And I want
to hear more about why you your expectations and why.
But he what tells you when I hear people, what
tells you he's going through a sophomore slump? Yeah, I
just I just don't. I would tell me where the
indication is that that's going to happen. The rosters better,
the coordinator will even be better because another year experience,

(02:17:24):
they've got better. I'm talking about assuming you're healthy as
a team, their defense is better. WHI should get him
the ball more? What part of his game as a rookie?
You say, Ah, he's sure for a falloff. He didn't
stumble into a bunch off schedule plays where he threw
it behind his back and pulling it out of his ass.
He stumbled into one two, three, four, five balls out,
one two, three balls out, sidestep, reset, and throw a

(02:17:46):
dig route over the linebacker's head for a twenty two
yard game. You tell me when I for sophomore slump
inconsistencies is a rookie, I'll say, well, if he doesn't
fix that, he could be in trouble. What tells you
when you saw from a football IQ decision making that
this dude is set up for a sophomore slump?

Speaker 4 (02:18:03):
Yeah, so let's discuss the jay shrouding and that potential
sophomore slump. Next on sport Stock seven eighty, The Shawn
Salisbury Show continued.

Speaker 5 (02:18:14):
Dude, why are you disrespect the soul?

Speaker 6 (02:18:18):
Being a realist? I like to call him the Ross.
Did you ever call the Ross? I?

Speaker 7 (02:18:20):
Ause?

Speaker 1 (02:18:20):
Yet?

Speaker 5 (02:18:21):
Why not?

Speaker 7 (02:18:21):
No?

Speaker 4 (02:18:22):
No called the Pine?

Speaker 5 (02:18:24):
He lived in the Pine.

Speaker 6 (02:18:25):
I live in the Pine. Yeah, I miss those days, man.

Speaker 5 (02:18:27):
You do? Uh, they're gonna play? Wait are they playing
on a Thursday? Check under the lights and out Pine?

Speaker 6 (02:18:34):
Let's go. You ready to go? Yeah, we'll do a
live broadcast. So load them up and let's go.

Speaker 4 (02:18:39):
Thursday night game six o'clock Jackson Field gonna be live
on KVLF ninety eight seven. Uh, they play the West
Texas A and M Buffaloes. I'm gonna tell you that, dude,
we're going to get our ass whooped.

Speaker 5 (02:18:51):
With all your study of West Texas A and M,
is that who is West Text A M? Yeah? Did
you do a lot of study thought a field study.
We don't even know if they're any good be a
player on their.

Speaker 6 (02:19:00):
Team when you go from Division three to Division two
and you're the ones who had to step up.

Speaker 4 (02:19:05):
Yeah, we have to step up. Yeah, we're gonna get
our our kicked in.

Speaker 5 (02:19:08):
Okay, here's what I think. When what is it West
Texas State, West Texas A and M West Texas A
and M and Soul Ross the State University, Soul Ross
State get together. It can't be Sol Ross State University,
can it? So it's not just Sol Ross University State.
You gotta put the state in there, and put the
in there. You do damn right, Harvard to the West,

(02:19:29):
do you throw all the records out when you guys
get together on a Thursday night under the lights.

Speaker 4 (02:19:34):
No when you play McMurray Battle I twenty, which is
no longer. So what do you do with I don't
even know you keep the records. We gotta we gotta
find a new rival. I guess I got a big
one this weekend. Yeah, sounds will pause, Yeah, USC and
l s U. Right, you worried about it a little bit?
Why defense? Slack of defense.

Speaker 5 (02:19:55):
And physicality concerns. Here's both they're going to have to
find out. Moss and Musmar's got more experience, played more.
But how that quarterback is in LA because they both
replacing two I guess the Jade Dad is a kid
who we're okay, they do a pinch so that let's
just say they cancel each other out. Both play good football.

Speaker 1 (02:20:17):
What have you?

Speaker 5 (02:20:17):
Now? It gets to I know Lincoln Riley's team can score,
and I know Brian Kelly's got his team now working
in the right direction.

Speaker 6 (02:20:25):
They can score. They always have freak show wide receivers.

Speaker 5 (02:20:27):
We know that, right. My question is are we going
to be able to handle being punched in the face.
SEC is a tadbit physical and the Big Ten this
year those two are very physical conferences. Now, while you
Toss physical and Washington physical and your old Pac twelve.
It's a day. There ain't no bye week for physicality, man,

(02:20:49):
and it starts right on an LSU doesn't play.

Speaker 6 (02:20:52):
So am I concerned? You're damn right.

Speaker 5 (02:20:53):
I am concerned because of rookie getting his first starting
and nationally televised when I say rookie Moss is first,
not getting his first start he started? What did he
start with? When? Uh? Didn Caleb set out the bowl
game and he played good. He did, But I'm talking
about fruit where it's the beginning of the season. You're
the guy, right, Yeah, I'm concerned because LSU's physical. I

(02:21:15):
don't know how physical we're going to be at the
point of attack, offensive line and defense.

Speaker 6 (02:21:20):
I just don't know.

Speaker 5 (02:21:21):
I know what you go on and get recruit and
I know we did in transfer portal and I get
all that. For me, it's is the the mentality of
the way you practice against a spread offense on a
consistent basis. Does it get you into a place of
complacency on the physic outy because sc will win if
they're physical. If they're not, they'll win some and they'll
get beat by a team that punches you in the face.

(02:21:43):
Ask you tall what they do to s see regularly. So,
and when Stanford was beating USC, they had luck. But
I'm going to tell you when they played with him physically,
they they gave.

Speaker 6 (02:21:51):
Them all they could handle.

Speaker 5 (02:21:53):
And you got to deal with that every week, plus
travel most of the time where you're traveling to play
away games. Yeah, for me, I I'm very concerned about
how sc he comes out of it. If I'd much
rather have it. This year, SC averaged thirty three points
a game instead of forty, and defense cut about ten
points and a half. Right, if they're not physical, we'll

(02:22:16):
have the same old story. The quarterback will put up
numbers and they'll score. Yeah, but they'll get beat by
teams that are better and stop you get a couple stops.
I gotta find out if they're physical enough to do it. So, yes,
I'm majorly concerned.

Speaker 4 (02:22:26):
Yeah, you talk about offensive line play and defensive line
play for USC. You know you asked me before the
break about my expectations for C. J. Stroud, Like the
whole thing with all of this, the X factor for me,
and it's probably really cliche, but it's just the health
of the offensive line, and then you you talked about
the sophomore slump for c J.

Speaker 5 (02:22:43):
Stroud.

Speaker 6 (02:22:44):
If CJ.

Speaker 4 (02:22:45):
Stroud was that quarterback last year that we saw like
running around, uh, scrambling his ass off, trying to extend
plays with his legs and things like that level coverage
and guys catch it. Yeah, that's luck, right, that's that's
off schedule. You didn't see that. One of the things
that we talked about. I asked you multiple times throughout
the season. I was like, is c J. Stroud like

(02:23:06):
ever going to develop a quote unquote scramble game where
he knows that he can extend plays with his legs
because the dude hangs out in the pocket and just
gets rid of the football.

Speaker 5 (02:23:15):
Give me a pocket presence, guy scrambles second as opposed
to bail early because you missed too many good throws.

Speaker 6 (02:23:21):
If you bail early, he doesn't bail.

Speaker 4 (02:23:23):
That's why I think there's not a chance. I mean,
there's obviously a chance. That's why I think it's very
minimal chance for him to have a sophomore slump because
you didn't see that last year. You saw him stay,
stay in the pocket, go through his progressions and hit
the open guy.

Speaker 5 (02:23:34):
Which will only be better this year, right, and the weapons
he has, and if you wonder if he has it,
you saw him. He's athletic man, good basketball player. And
you saw him against Georgia two years ago where his
legs single handedly kept them in that game. They should
have won the game. If Marvin Harrison shouldn't get hurt,
they're they're the national champions, I think. And that was
what Georgia, right, yeah, yeah, And and George is as
physical as it gets. Here's why I want you to

(02:23:58):
honestly go, if I say, just on the naked from
what you saw, not sitting in the film room with
the Texans in the quarterback room with CJ. Shout, I
want some fan or you to tell me what you
saw on in fifteen regular season games. We'll just put
the playoffs aside. Where's the glaring weakness on his game?
I want you to tell me the glaring weakness on

(02:24:18):
his game that says, ooh, he's got two or three
of these that he could stub his toe, two of these.

Speaker 6 (02:24:23):
That he's not real good at that you come back
and backfire.

Speaker 4 (02:24:25):
He had what one or two games where he had
multiple He had five total interceptions, weakness, throws or whatever.
Trying to think of weakness that he had. And did
he ever hold the ball too long?

Speaker 6 (02:24:38):
Sure he did, But that's not a weakness.

Speaker 5 (02:24:39):
That's a play. I mean, if it was a con dude,
you're taking forty sacks and the hold Russ Wilson. Watch
him even now in Pittsburgh the other day, he dropped back,
held it, held it. He took a sack. And that's
why people are talking about well fields will least bailed out.
You get to a point, whether you're gun shy or
whether you're skittish. I don't know what it is. But
Russ Wilson's going through or it's just to the point

(02:24:59):
where he out. So the best football is behind you.
The weakness you don't hate, there isn't one. It's not
arm strength, Nope. It's not accuracy. It's not mental makeup.
It's not decision making. It's not physical physical, it's not athleticism,
it's not team player, it's not the attention to detail. Right,
somebody's gonna come I say, well, he's not a great runner. Okay,

(02:25:21):
Well that's why I disagree. He's an efficient runner. Big difference.
Brady didn't run a licue. So matter of fact, Brady
was better running the ball in the last three years
of his career than he was his first ten.

Speaker 6 (02:25:31):
Look at Peyton Manning right, just.

Speaker 5 (02:25:33):
They manipulate the pocket, throw on time and then when necessary.
See for me what I want as a guy who sidesteps,
resets in the pocket with his head still up looking
at and resets and throws instead of bails and run.
A lot of those great scramblers run into trouble. Caleb
Williams as good as he is, and I'm just telling
you he's gonna He's so dynamic and precise with his
talent that he is going to scramble. He's going to

(02:25:55):
run into trouble because they trust their legs so much.
CJ trusted his pocket presence, but also has the ability
to rush for forty four yards in a game and
kill you on third and five. So it's not a weakness.
It's not as big as strength, but a weakness is dude,
Dan Fouts couldn't run all Dan Fouts, couldn't Marino, Yeah,
perfect case. Marino wouldn't take on Dan couldn't run for

(02:26:16):
me to you, But I got news for you. If
your head's not around you're gonna get black eyed because
you're gonna hit you right in your mouth with a
football thrown on time. So Stroud has got this ability.
Alls I say, point me out the glaring weakness or
even a strong weakness, and I'll throw my hands in
the air, say you're right. That's where you find your sophomores.

(02:26:37):
Could he go through statistics or have a bad game,
of course, but if you're just looking at the performance,
there's nothing in a rookie performance that tells me that's
an inconsistent. That's a problem. That's a problem. The only
thing I think he'll have to guard against is one
the receivers saying they're always open, which I think he's
good at because Ohio State they had four first rounders

(02:26:58):
playing with him. Good gracious right is also because he's
so good. I've said it before. You don't have to
have the hero cinema. You'll make plenty of plays, not
trying to be the guy who has to make every play.

Speaker 6 (02:27:10):
Just force the play go.

Speaker 5 (02:27:12):
If we throw it, if the guy we call a
deep rout and it's not there, you don't have to
throw it. Throw the secondary guy, throw your third guy,
throw it out of bounds, throw the ball of the flat,
throw the check down, and we'll see it back up.
If he just stays out of trying to think I
got to make everything. He doesn't have to.

Speaker 6 (02:27:26):
On this team, he'll make most of them. He doesn't
have to.

Speaker 5 (02:27:30):
Defense will get him the short field at times, and
they now got a better running game and a better bandwidth.

Speaker 6 (02:27:35):
It's simple.

Speaker 5 (02:27:36):
So and tell somebody proves to me that his rookie
year showed signs of sophomore slump coming.

Speaker 4 (02:27:43):
BSh And as far as my expectation, he threw for
forty one hundred yards last year, I expect that again.
Five interceptions, twenty three touchdowns. I expect the touchdowns to
go up, maybe the interceptions go up a tick or
two because he's got more play makers.

Speaker 5 (02:27:56):
I think you're looking at like thirty three and nine
type of thing. Thirty three yeah, ratio. Yeah, that's what
I expect, no doubt. So continue to talk about the
East Houston Texans. Also, the Astros got to get back
in the win column tonight against the Phillies. That's next
right here on Sports Talk seven ninety. But also let
me tell you about brotherly love. Electric in there. Briggs
and Stratton home generator storms. Se He's supposed to get
