Speaker 1 (00:02):
Salsbury.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Okay, let's do this Sewn Salisbury.
Speaker 3 (00:12):
To usc Troupe's longtime friend Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Dan Matthew, excuse, this is the Sean Salisbury show. One
round ball of the medal.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
Chin.
Speaker 4 (00:27):
He's got it to second for one.
Speaker 5 (00:28):
I'll two by fires to first and time double play
six four, three side retired.
Speaker 6 (00:34):
Here's the three too. It well again, this one to
right field. Cam Smith back in. That one's gone. He
kept this one fair and it's one nothing. Detroit Green
over two. First pitch and Green hits this high in
the air, pretty deep to right. Smith is back and
he will watch that one go.
Speaker 5 (00:55):
Riley Green with a two run homer, and just like
that it is five nothing.
Speaker 6 (01:00):
Tis one out men on first and second. It's a
two to two count to Sweeney.
Speaker 7 (01:06):
Here's the pitch and it's driven to right field. Back
goes Smith. He looks up and it's ten rows deep.
Sweeney goes deep. That's a three run homer for Detroit
and it's nine nothing. Here's the one one driven the
right field. Back goes cam Smith and it's gone five
(01:31):
rows deep in the right field. Another home run and
it's ten nothing.
Speaker 5 (01:36):
Fans rise to their feet first pitched, dis hits it
in the air shallow right center going out, Torres coming
in Jones and the right fielder Perez and his Perez
who makes the catch and that is the ballgame. Astro
shut out for a third time in the last four days,
and as the Tigers beat him ten to nothing.
Speaker 8 (01:58):
Oh god, I mean, it's just almost a If it
wasn't so comedic, you would probably start crying. But did
you know, Sean, and by the way, away we go
in good morning here rousing start. I know it is
here on the Sewan Salisbury show Sports Talk seven ninety
but Brian McTaggart sharing this yesterday that the Astros have
(02:20):
been outscored twenty eight to five since Friday, twenty eight
to five and even and by the way too, you know,
I know that people are going to say, well, Dan,
they get all five runs in one game. That doesn't
make it any better. But remember too, that was a
game that you had to use twelve innings. A guy
named yel Della Santos was able to save you and
(02:41):
you didn't get a hit from this seventh inning on
after Jose Al two Vay hit a home run in
that game. Aside from that, Sean, everything is just awesome.
Speaker 4 (02:49):
Yeah, And I'm I shouldn't need to preface this, you know,
I'm usually trying to find that I don't even know
what to call it silver lining. And it's not an
old mister positive homework guy, because I'll criticize whatever needs criticized.
But and I'll compliment it too, because they've deserved it.
But resilience doesn't equal winning and hitting properly and pitching right.
You can be as resilient as hell and still suck.
(03:12):
And I'm not saying the team sucks, but the way
they've been swinging the bat is quite frankly, the Little
League World Series has given you more at the plate.
I'm just telling you. And we could call it and
try to well, you know, the injury you know what
if excuses are like rear end holes. Man, everybody's got one. Okay,
they're not making them. I'm talking about when we make
them for them. Well they've benaged. Yeah, they've been injured,
(03:33):
so so's everybody. Everybody's tired, everybody's injured. Well, you know,
got to get their legs under him. Stop it enough
enough this team, I'm telling the way they're swinging the
bat right now that they have zero, not one percent,
not twenty seven percent, zero percent chance to get through
a short series, let alone a long one. I mean
(03:54):
they don't just get there. They don't just get beat
when they lose. Recently, they've been shut out what three
of the last four games they have. It's exactly it.
It's like you gotta if this was Little League, they'd
be throwing in the white towel. That's how bad it's been.
I can sit it on a tee now, Nope, Sean,
can you hit?
Speaker 9 (04:13):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (04:13):
I could have. I guess I could if you put
it on a tee and back in the day we're
playing with football or or The bottom line is our
jobs to break down we see it. I'm gonna tell
you right now, if the watch is bad, does it
mean well, Sean, they're more talented, they're better than of
course they are. That's all the captain obvious, the stuff
that everybody's gonna say. So we kiss, everybody's asked to
make sure everybody's excited.
Speaker 10 (04:34):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (04:34):
The bottom line is this isn't a below average hitting
team there right now. I'm talking about as we sit
and as we've seen this year, they don't scare anybody
at the plate on a consistent basis. Are they talented, yes,
but right now, listen, they are when you watch them
swing the bat. You can't get beat fourteen to one,
twelve to nothing, and ten to nothing in three out
(04:56):
of four games. If you're calling yourself a conten and
I'm with Dana Brown on this, listen, I suffer more
than a two to one loss than I would in
a fourteen to one loss. Right they happened, and we
talked about that last Wednesday. The problem is when they
happen three days times in four days. Now you're getting
to the point of what in the world is going on.
(05:17):
I'll tell you what's happened. Attrition, injuries have bit have
finally caught up to them, because right now, tell me,
as an overall team, what they're doing well or great? Okay,
Christian Walker played well last night? Got anybody else in mind?
Great play by me? He got you know what I'm
saying for what we've seen this year, Yes, j Melton,
(05:39):
great catching center field, saved another run. You can go
on and talk about one individual piece, but come on, man, okay,
you want to know who they are the last four games, ladies,
and gentlemen, let me introduce to you the Houston, Colorado
Rockies getting beat twenty two to three. I mean, just
getting their ass hammered. I don't know how they did
against the Dodgers last night, but you get my point
(06:00):
is that listen and when you're not with other than
the fact that the starting pitching spencer Arraghetti's a really
good pitcher who's not a good pitcher, meaning now, well
he's coming off an injury. Well, is he hurt or
is injured? The answer is no, correct, So you pitch him.
So if he's heard or injured, I gotta expect him
and he's just going to give us do his thing right,
and he'll get strike up and you walk for, give
(06:22):
up all those hits, give well, he's he Oh he
had good but he had good stuff. Though if he
had good stuff, he wouldn't have walked for and he
wouldn't have given up hits. And that's just why it works.
He gets no help because they can't swing the bat
right now. And as positive as I always am, it's
okay to you know confident, yep, we're all in on
all ASTs. You also got to tell the truth if
you're which I try to do all the time. From
(06:43):
what I'm my visual I'm not at the game every day,
but I watch all the time. The point is is
that what is Hunter Brown? Still not dominating like he did.
Hopefully he'll get back to it, right, We'll find out tonight.
I'll be honest, I'll be yes, he did, but I'm
about what we expect from the dominant guy. He's got
it in him, but we've seen hints of a little
(07:04):
bit of a little bit of I don't know, warned.
Speaker 8 (07:07):
That whatever it is is not even so much that
Sparky wondered aloud with us, maybe he's got a little
bit of death.
Speaker 4 (07:13):
There you go. Fromer has not been the same fromber
Now we know what he's got. This is not what
they have in him, what they've been like. I'm just
going by the visual. Du alls I can do is
judge game the game, what I see on the field.
Aside from the fact that starting pitching has been h
Jason Alexander's been damn good. I was gonna say that's
been the saving because.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
I know.
Speaker 4 (07:36):
You don't drive the ball, you're getting shut out, You're
playing good defense pretty for the most part. I mean,
Karea makes a good play diving stop third, But when
you're down ten or nothing, it doesn't matter. Defense matter.
The other two things are off right aside from starting pitching,
relief pitching or out starting pitching out very good at
times relief pitching. And the guy who brought back Taylor Scott,
(07:57):
who a lot of respect for. Right now, he couldn't
get you out, okay. And then lastly, you're not hitting well,
You're not driving in runs, you're not getting on base,
you're not slugging you so right now you think about this. Now,
think about if if if you had the surrender rule
like you do in Little League, three out the last
four games, you would you your Little leaguers would have
been to pizza by the fourth inning. When do I
(08:20):
get my sock? Guy, I'm about to start looking in
right field and the kids chasing butterflies out there in
right field. Okay, hey, go to the plate. You know
that one kid who came to the plate and his
hands were like four inches separated at the plate, backing
out of the bat, stepping towards the third base coach
because he was afraid to get hit and barely stepped
into the bat. I felt bad for him. But you know,
all you were saying is dive in and get it,
(08:40):
get hit or don't swing the bat just you know
the one kid who was holding on. So it's like
Howie in benchworse R. Thank you going to there. That's
exactly right at a costume mar Okay, but that that's that,
you know what I'm saying a little bit hyperbolic, but
you get the point on the Yeah, exactly exactly. And
(09:01):
I got to give him old Twister to get him
rolling exactly. It's like, come on, man, Schneider and Heater
and Spade ain't coming to save you, especially Rob use
a baller and they're in first place, and he got
help from a Meritors team who just picked the exact
right time to start urinate. Now their leg Okay, So
the point is, let's call like we should if they
(09:22):
don't get great starting pitching and phenomenal really bullpen they're
hitting is not good enough on a consistent basis this
year to win. They do not have a deep in
the postseason hitting unit as we speak now. Well, Sean,
then they got hot and they go to ten and
(09:43):
one and they start raking great. Jordan comes in and
goes well, awesome, then I'll sit back here and say,
you know what, eleven games ago they sucked at the plate.
They're good now. That's why we do it in moments.
That's why we judge football every week. That's why we
judge hoops all the time. That's why we judge a
college basketball team. I can only judgs the body of work,
and what you see the body of work this year
at the plate is they don't. There's not a whole
(10:04):
lot of people that are fraid of them. Will it
change with the oron? Hopefully? But the ordon we saw
before he got hurt one the ordon were used to.
So which one are we going to see when he
gets here, meaning when he gets up to the big
league club and does that? So listen, the frustration is
the reason why we get so frustrated. They're far better
than this. And I'm sorry to tell you, you can't
sugarcoat or kiss ass or apologize and be apologetic and
(10:29):
all that and cover over and cover them when you
get beat like they have. No World Series team gets
beat fourteen to one, twelve to nothing, and ten to nothing,
not last six. That's what I'm talking about. Yeah, that
close together. Either there's something wrong. I know they care,
and I know they're resilient. You know I'm resilient too, Okay,
but I if I'm not throwing the ball on time,
(10:51):
the other team gets it about three times and end
up losing. So whether it's smart baseball, focused baseball, whatever,
it's not on Joe. Last, what's what's the spot supposed
to do? When you're down seven to nothing? You got
to keep Scott out there as long as you can.
You've already got guys in the bullpen right now that
are sitting and dog on a plunge pools so they
can get through so they can actually pitch again. You
lose your what's Joe? What's Joe's supposed to do? And
(11:13):
by the way, anybody that blames a spot for the
way they're swinging the bat, you can go ahead and
question if you want to question the hitting instructor are
they doing it right? Whatever? The team I don't know,
but you hear it all the time. Once people struggle,
they question. When they're going good, they want to give
the guy, you know, a pay him extra. But Joe
aspota what I want to what is he supposed to do?
Speaker 11 (11:34):
Tell it?
Speaker 4 (11:34):
Tell me? What is Joe a spot? Is supposed to
do when you get a first put swinging pop up
when you're down by a few runs that need basis,
What are you supposed to do when you got a
chance with runners in scoring position and you hit a
routine groundball or pop up to the outfield, what are
you supposed to do? I've changed to the next guy?
What guy?
Speaker 8 (11:54):
Or one out and runners on the corners, and the
guy that he keeps saying, Oh, he's gonna climb his
way out of this, and Jesus Sanchez continued to look
lost up there.
Speaker 4 (12:02):
Okay, so what are you supposed to stop batting him
for it? And when you're throwing the ball right down
Broadway and they're hammering it like to Yellowstone? What are
what are you supposed to do? Tell him? Hey, man, hey,
batter better? Hey better? Hey, straighten it out at the plate,
or hey about it? Bet hey throw strikes? Well, I
am in they're beating the ball. What's he supposed to
(12:23):
do at this stage of the game. Run another bullpen
guy out there, so he's beat down till the end
of the time at this rate. Also, Chas McCormick's going
to start logging innings and be up for Fireman roll
Age relief Man of the Year.
Speaker 8 (12:37):
I think somebody said that he is now eligible for
Fantasy Baseball points.
Speaker 4 (12:40):
Think about hitching am I right. In three of the
last five games, he's taking them ount he has, dude,
two days in a row. He should pitch once a year, Sean,
there's one. There's no way. I'm telling you right now now,
somebody please find the this. There's no way a first
place team first place in the history of this game,
(13:02):
or at least in the last three decades. I'm just
thinking thirty years. Take you into the friggin nineties. There's
no way the same pitcher that's not a pitcher on
a first place team that has World Series aspirations, just
on a first place team has run an outfielder out
there or the ballplayer, a non pitcher out there three
(13:24):
games in three times in five games. I believe that's
what it is. They're three and six, whatever it is. No,
it is that many times the same guy that's a
non pitcher on a first place team. There's no way.
And you can't just chock it up. A loss is
a loss. No. Some losses expose exactly what the problem is,
and the problem is this team, aside from not pitching
(13:46):
real well beat down and not pitching real well in
a bullpen and not hitting, they're pretty good. It's ain't
it Joe Spotter or Dana Brown problem. Okay, it's not.
All of us were excited about the Sanchez. We were
the poppy brings there. It's been a pop gun, unfortunately,
and you can roll through it. It's just talented. Yes,
(14:07):
are we rooting from? Yes, the Spencer air Getty gonna
be a really good pitch. Yes, he ain't good right now,
Taylor Scott can't get anybody out. You're wearing bullpens. Exhausted.
Joe has know like I said, you're going to McCormick.
That ought to tell you too. You're getting your ass
handed to and you got to go to an everyday
player three times in five or six games, and we
wonder what the problem is. Not only that, don't you
just put it on pitching, because there's an extra amount
(14:29):
of stress when you can't push one run across the plate.
You thought it was easy as good as ton of
Brown is. If I was betting against the betting today
on this game and it was the only game I
could bet on, I'm taking treks google why because two
to one may be the score of the game, and
the two to one will probably end up Detroit the
way they're swinging the bat and against that guy. If
(14:50):
you thought Flarity was good, all goodness, you bet fools
better recognize because the guy pitching in place of Flarity tonight,
the lefty, there's nobody better in baseball and what he us. Yeah,
you're painting a pretty bleak picture. But yeah, they're the
first place, and I believe in them. But you know what,
right now, if you said, Sean, would you bet on
the Astros that they're going to go deep in the
plasffs with the way that know, because good pitching always
(15:12):
beats good hitting, and good pitching destroys below average hitting.
Speaker 8 (15:16):
But they're not even good hitting. That's why I said
low average. Yeah, I was gonna say, I mean, that's in.
They're very much right there right now. So and by
the way, to the dead arm attribution that I gave,
that was not Sparky. It was bag Well on the
Space City Home Network Hall when they played the Rangers
in that series.
Speaker 4 (15:33):
So I just want to clear that up, all right, just.
Speaker 8 (15:36):
Continuing this, I mean, you know it is very embarrassing
right now for the astros, but it's also telling and
I think twofold and we'll talk about that as we're
just getting going here on a Tuesday edition Sean Salisbury Show,
Sports Talk seven to ninety.
Speaker 4 (15:48):
Hey, when a well respected business leader says the best
company are the ones that solve problems in the market,
we'll consider this new vehicle transaction prices of around forty
eight thousand dollars today. That's double where they were twenty
ten and far out paces wage increases. Affordability is a problem.
We know that with talks of tariffs and other noise,
customers are looking for a solution, and that solution is
(16:10):
affordable monthly payment. Some banks have dealt with this by
extending financing terms out to eighty four, even ninety six months.
In fact, over twenty percent of auto loans today are
seven years long. It's not a mortgage, folks. This is
why clients, many clients are considering leasing than any other
time in recent history. Dn M Leasing is the nation's leader.
(16:31):
That's DNM Leasing, nation's leader. With fifty thousand satisfied clients
on the road today. With forty nine years in the business,
they've withstood the test of time and done it really,
really well and high achievers. We have experts that specialize in, yes,
solving the payment problems, the high payment problems you guys
have to deal with with easy lease. Easy lease, that's
(16:53):
easy lease with no money down, payments significantly lower than
buying and terms that make sense. Why wouldn't you call
DNA today? I did. I love it. My new vehicle
will be in this week. What about you man those
prices and keep that money in your pocket? No money down? Yeah,
it's DNM leasing, It's easy lease, DNM Leasing. That's Dmauto
Leasing dot com, dmauto Leasing dot com. Tell him I
(17:16):
sent you.
Speaker 2 (17:18):
The Sean Salisbury Show continues on your game console. Listen
to Sports Talk seven ninety on any device with our
free iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 8 (17:31):
As I mentioned, it's both embarrassing and telling it for
this team, and you touched on this a little bit
in the last segment. This is a team who looks
mentally and physically run down right now. And that's not
an excuse. I mean, you know what is it? Fatigue
makes cowards of us all well, I mean, this is
a team that it seems like of all of the
(17:52):
injuries they've had this year. Two of them now have
really hurt them, and it doesn't look like that they
know how to get this thing back on track. This
lineup ever since he sok Brettis went out, has not
been the same. It's been average at best. Maybe every
once in a while put together a good performance, but
it's not a consistently productive group. And then Josh Hader
(18:14):
in the bullpen that's completely thrown off the rhythm for
everybody else where. You knew that you get it to
pretty much the eighth and ninth inning with the way
that Brian a Bray you can pitch and the way
that hater has pitched in the ninth that it was
going to be over Now it's pretty much a my god,
just run out the time, like, just get to the
twenty seventh out and hopefully we have more runs than
(18:35):
they do. That's the way that it's looking right now
for this team.
Speaker 4 (18:38):
Okay, how are you gonna fix it? How are you
fixing this? I don't know if there is a fix
right now. Unfortunately. Okay, with the collateral damage that comes
from both hitting pitching right on the pitching side, if
you don't start getting better starting I mean yes, six
seven innings, but there's also here's one thing. You can
still go seven innings and grind it out or six innings.
(19:00):
But if you give up seven runs, but you're going
long because you haven't given up a lot of you know,
you haven't pitched a lot. The pitch counts not they
need you to extend. That's still not good pitching. Do
you get my point?
Speaker 9 (19:09):
Right?
Speaker 4 (19:10):
I know you using up innings to save it. But oh, well, man,
he pitched six innings. Well what was the score when
he went out? Eight one? Right? So there is that.
I do agree with it. You know, I'm a I
can't stand when a guy gets the five innings and
ninety pitches and he's going good, pull him out because
well you're five and a third. You're a hero now,
and the way rules and the way we set up
(19:31):
the optics of baseball. No, you're not a hero in
five innings. Sorry, but you didn't do your job. The
starting pitcher' is supposed to get beyond five. But regardless,
but if you pitch six strong and you can go seven, great,
If you pitch six innings you get the six and
two thirds and grind it out. But gave up nine hits,
seven runs, walk three, struck out four and you're down
seven to one. Was it a good outing or just
(19:52):
a long outing? Yeah, you just just really just ran
out the time.
Speaker 11 (19:56):
Let's tell you did.
Speaker 4 (19:56):
Now. If you're a pitcher and you're thinking about it,
don't you know? If you're Hunter Brown, you got to
go tonight. And I'm sure you think this all the time,
But there's a different mentality when you got a nine
to nothing the leader a zero as eer leading. You're
pitching against a guy who's one in seventeen or a
guy who's trek Schooble, big difference in Hunter Brown. When
you're facing Hunter Brown, you know it's going to be
rough going if you're Detroit or anybody else. But is
there not an extra bit, an extra hint of if
(20:19):
not more than a hint of, I know I got
to go good. I love my teammates, but let's face fact, dude,
I've been on football teams, so I love my teammates.
Any defense couldn't get off the field, and you kneed
to listen. And I'll tell you this now, I'll never forget.
We're getting ready to play a game at home. Run
our first two or three running backs are hurt. Robert
was out, Robert Smith. We was down to Brian Billick,
(20:41):
our offensive coordinatord game. We're playing, i think the Saints
at home in Minnesota. We're going through the week. You
know one of our starting receivers. Do we are limited right? Well,
you know we can't run it. We're down to the
point where it's we're basically one demential. Before the game,
Brian Billy comes up. We walked, you know, as we
always did, kind of walk and talk before a game.
You're warming up and he says, you and me today,
(21:02):
my man, He said, I ain't got much. It wasn't
dogging the play. We ain't got much to work with.
So we're gonna hit you and me, meaning be prepared
to drop back. You're gonna get hit in the mouth
and take you gotta let a rip right. I'll never
forget how he said it, and I thought about it.
It wasn't a knock on it, but he just knew
that it was one of those that well it's and
so was My thought is we got to produce, right.
(21:24):
So if you're a pitcher and you're thinking, you're always thinking,
got to keep it in So the anxiety and stress
that it puts on you, which you put on yourself.
But the intensity goes up as the season goes on
and the competition gets tougher. Pitching against Detroit's eier than
pitching or tougher than pitching against Colorado. Okay, so that
goes So there's that, and then there's this ability. I
gotta keep pitching. I gotta keep pitching. Why because I
(21:45):
can't keep taxing a bullpen because if you don't pitch longer,
even if you're not pitching, well, we got to pitch
you longer, even though it would be time for a
bullpen guy. But we can't get to the bullpen guy
because right now we're getting our ass kicked in. It's
six to one, and I need you to go a
few mornings, which is going to make you more tired
because you don't have your stuff, and then you're gonna
start looking at tape saying what am I doing here?
Something wrong with mechanics? My mechanics, and then bingo, bullpen
(22:05):
is taxed. And now you get to a game like
last night, and Joe, we got to keep pitching. Chuck McCormick, okay, Chasmo,
I'm sure goes out there and does. But I'm sure
he also it's getting to the point, did you did
you hear the broadcast? Hell, it got to the point
where Todd and Blummer on TV side when oh, Chaz
has got to be frustrated about that pitch almost a like,
(22:27):
oh they were certain they were really deep, Dan deep, right,
that's what I'm saying this so much. Oh man, that's
gonna really carry over to the next you know, almost
to the point. And it was good. You had to
add add some comment. I liked what they did, but
you got to the point. You don't you think there's
also got to be a point where the guys is listen.
I know it's funny once in a while, he just
(22:48):
got your ass handity, But I was thinking about McCormick
going out there again. I almost feel like looking at
like again, good gracious. I know he may not be
thinking this, but it's almost to the point of embarrassment. No,
I was embarrassed. Then it becomes it becomes gimmick little
league stuff. When you got to run him for the
it's like you're the savanna banana. Yes, let's call it
what it is here without the flare in the dance ladies,
(23:10):
gentlemen of Saint Paul Saints, Right, Savannah Bannas, We're gonna
run you out there again. Dude, Oh, I'm going to go, okay,
right out there, skip go out there. And it's almost
like you're like, it's like again, it's I'm the guinea pig.
I'm gonna go out there and keep throwing it up
there and somebody's gonna hammer it, or somebody's gonna get
a blue pit, or I'm gonna strike somebody out and
I'm gonna be up tomorrow the highlights. You're gonna say,
for the third time in five games, chas McCormick takes
(23:32):
the mound again, Well, I mean, it really becomes a point.
Speaker 8 (23:35):
And I know the answer to this, but as a
fan or anybody else watching this team, you almost want
to yell, do you have any pride?
Speaker 4 (23:42):
Like, seriously, do you have any pride? Did one of them?
They happen? Like Dan and I talk, there's one game, Okay,
you get beat. They're gonna happen a couple times during
the year to everybody where you just don't got it.
But dude, what happens is when it's like this, you're
starting to think just don't got it? Well where to go?
I mean, do you any of it? And then the
other side of that collateral damage is if you're continuing
(24:04):
not to hit, what do you do? Mess around with
the lineup, move people around, and then as a hitter,
what do you start doing. I gotta squeeze the sawdust
out of this damn thing because we can't keep letting
Hunter Brown pitch in a three to one game. Eventually
it becomes too much. We got to spot him some
so he can have some non stressful, non leverage innings
(24:26):
where ah, you just gave up back to back home runs,
but he's still good. We're up seven to two now,
two solo jobs back to back. So listen, you can
call it what you say. Yes, the injuries, I know,
but if we said all along the thing, the Astros
are resilient, they got grit, they're tough, They somehow pulled
the stick together and do all this, and I mean
(24:48):
you can count on them. They're gonna go. But one
thing they've never made is excuses, and we can't make
them for him. Injuries happen the Dodgers, these good Dodgers.
Now is a day to day back and forth struggle
with the Padres. Padres don't trade, Dylan sees now they're
at the Dodgers are scrambling around trying to keep there.
Dave Roberts, we need more, you know, talking about urgency.
(25:09):
So what is it? Listen, We're not in the clubhouse
every day. But I know this. The optics on TV
look like I'm watching The Bugs Bunny Roadrunner Comedy Hour.
At the plate. It's the Bugs Bunny with the guys
strike one, strike two, strike three. I've put it in
the gift up where they're walking around the bases last night.
I don't like, here's another run that's right. And then
but on the other side of it, you could put
(25:30):
it the second gift of on the other side in
that same Bugs Bunny cartoon shows Boom swings through it.
Bugs Bunny's throwing you know, Connie Thumb and those big
fellows to death and they can't hit it. Swinging right
through it. Guys are striking out. That's on the other
side with the other team pitching, where the Astros can't
hit eleven strikeouts last night.
Speaker 8 (25:49):
But bye bye bye, don't change your plate approach, you know,
trust your swing, do all of that kind of stuff.
And remember bat strike out again with runners on the
corners in one out. But just remember batting averages at
dan That's what they've told us. Batting average swinging miss
is the same as a groundball. But but at least
on a ground ball out, guess what happens. You at
least put stress on the infield, have to make a play.
(26:09):
And but batting average doesn't matter. Although the five of
the top six teams in baseball a week ago where
guess what they were the top five batting averages in baseball,
But it does not matter. Okay, what matters is putting
the ball in play. You can't, you just can't. You're
not gonna beat how many times this year? Well, in
just two of the games Flarity's good? Howd Flarity pitch
(26:31):
this year? He's had a rough goal of it time
third time around. As you saw the stat on the
board they put up there, you know they're getting into
a clip of like three fifteen, three thirteen somewhere in there.
Struck you out nine And Flarity's good, but he hasn't
had a good season. And how about that rookie with
Baltimore I told you about, he perfect gamed you for
eight or for what seven? Got through the eighth and
(26:51):
one hit is what I'm saying through one here, but
had a chance perfect game if it's not for a
former teammate. So with that in mind, they've done a
lot this year, he's saying, Oh, this guy's done allowing
guys to play an average make them look like they're
in the cy Young Hunt. Yeah, yeah, I mean, and
that's the frustrating part of all the changes.
Speaker 4 (27:10):
So we can go back to the oh man, you know,
glass half full of doing it. They're getting healthy. The
problem is some of the health that they've had. We're
still waiting on Javier and he was sick and hasn't
you know, waiting for him to continue to extend. Spencer
Araghett's had a rough go of it. Dubin coming back
has been awful. Saw Taylor Scott last night and I'm
not I can't do what they do, but it can't
analyze it. And they're not waking up happy today. So
(27:32):
it's not anything they don't know. But you can't get
beat like that three games in a row and call
yourself a World Series type team. Well, perhaps a card
has not had a play Yeah, should I say yeah,
for the Astros, and maybe it can be and we'll
try to see if they can pull that card and
we'll talk about it here. It is the Sean Salisbury
Show on a Tuesday Sports Talk seven ninety. First, I
(27:53):
gotta tell you about my good buddy, your good buddy,

Speaker 2 (29:19):
The Shawn Salisbury Show continued.
Speaker 4 (29:23):
Mike and Bellair wants to weigh in.
Speaker 10 (29:25):
Mike, good morning, morning guys.
Speaker 12 (29:29):
I would like to disagree that the Josh Kader injury
is bothering us, because I think any.
Speaker 13 (29:35):
Of us can be the closer.
Speaker 10 (29:37):
Right now, nobody in Houston with RNA.
Speaker 12 (29:41):
One thing I think you do is it looks like
the batters are completely guessing.
Speaker 13 (29:46):
They have no idea what's coming.
Speaker 12 (29:48):
That's are as bad as I've ever seen. And then
thank you guys to know about why would you bet
Jesus Sanchez for it last night?
Speaker 10 (30:00):
With how he's going, I man, I'd.
Speaker 14 (30:02):
Rather have Christian Walker diner taranteen, They'd.
Speaker 13 (30:05):
Rather have any of those guys up there.
Speaker 12 (30:07):
And he kills our entire rally of the prost. Not
that it would have ended up mattering, but I just
think everybody's play totally like right now, the managers, the hitters,
and the few.
Speaker 10 (30:19):
I don't know how we.
Speaker 15 (30:20):
Get out of it. That's it.
Speaker 4 (30:22):
I appreciate the call, Mike.
Speaker 8 (30:23):
I mean, I'll go ahead and try to work through
all three of those first with Josh Hater. It's about
guys being in different roles now, That's how it affects things.
I mean, you saw Bennett Sussa struggle the other night.
You've not, for the most part, counted on Bennett Sussa
to throw high leverage innings for you this year, and
you counted on him there. He gave up the game
time to run Homer. He struggled in that match, So yeah,
(30:47):
it does affect everyone else. Everybody has to slide into
a heightened role. With Sanchez. I mean, I think that
the point he just brought up was incredibly valid. He's
not a middle of the order hitter for you right now.
He might even be a guy that you have to
sit and work with on the side in order to
kind of get through this. Because pulled up his stats, Sean,
(31:07):
he's batting one sixty four since joining the Astros. I
don't think he's gotten a hit now. I think he
was what oh for twenty one coming into that game
last night. Yeah, has been good and he just add
and he adds in an oh for three last night.
Speaker 4 (31:19):
So for his last twenty four, yeah, well then you
know what. I hate days off, but uh, days off
when you don't need him. I'm all for a day
off when you uh need to go over there and
sit and have a look at somebody else swinging the bat.
I hate to say it, but in fact.
Speaker 8 (31:32):
And it's not like that, there is a ton of
great options behind him. But do you trust cam Smith
more than him? Probably? Do you trust Chas McCormick probably
more than him?
Speaker 4 (31:41):
Right now? Same way, what do you do or don't?
Whether you do or don't, you got to find out
if you do, you just do if that means playing
three different cats, rotating him over there until somebody gets
a hot BATU listen how many they've had, they'll end
up having one hundred and fifty different lineups when the
season's over. What's the problem, now, what's the problem now? Listen,
(32:03):
I understand why you got him and you got to
play through it. But guess what, Unfortunately you don't have
one hundred games to play through it.
Speaker 8 (32:09):
You also have to actually do it, is the thing.
And you continuously put him in high leverage spots with
runners in scoring position, and you get a tapper back
to the mound, or you get just completely still trying
to pull the outside pitch every single time I see
him pitch the same way, and it's just like, good God, man, like,
can you take a little bit of a hint maybe
(32:31):
that they're pitching you away, just a little bit of.
Speaker 4 (32:34):
One And there's a novel concept. And when they're pitching
you away, either you lay off or you go that way.
I mean, I know that sounds so serious. I'm not
a Listen. I know it's not like shooting a fish
in a barrel, because it was everybody do it, and
I ain't never done that before, but it seems pretty easy.
But God, but when they throw you one right down
(32:55):
the middle and you're looking dead red and you see
it and pop it up.
Speaker 8 (32:58):
We got regular, it's a problem. Or take it for
a strike that's exactly a third strike? Oh, because you
know I'm trying to be patient here.
Speaker 4 (33:06):
Listen. I understand well patients and patients with one strikes
different than patients with two. Right, I get it, But
I just listen. You got call. Like I said, this year,
we said it was going to be different. Injuries have
caused it to be different. They have not had I've
told you career years have. When you're in a team
that's had all these changes, you better get a couple
of guys having career years pain you was having one.
(33:28):
Jake Myers was having one. Where's he not playing? Josh
Hater was having another career year type year not playing.
Somebody had to step up more than one. When you
do this, when you think about all the injuries and changes,
you had to have two other guys have their career year.
The shortstops having one. Who else is? Who else is
(33:50):
as of right now? Roster nobody?
Speaker 8 (33:53):
Okay, As a matter of fact, they're having below career
years right now, almost across the board.
Speaker 4 (33:58):
Right Can they can they beat teams that are play sure?
They can look at who they beat. They've beaten good teams.
We talked about going in. It's not even the wins.
Wins and losses do matter, but it's even the optics
of how they're happening. Even in a win, sometimes you
look at and say, thank goodness that pitching staff was
lights out because we're still not providing them upfronts. And
in a big loss. Think about it, it was thirty
three to one. Is that what the what we said yesterday?
(34:21):
Thirty three to one? Now add ten forty three to one. Dude,
Come on now, son that we are literally talking surrender
stuff in a little league baseball game three out of
the last four games. You're gonna throw it in because,
like I said, thirty one flavors is waiting for you.
We're gonna go get pizza. Hey, celebrate. We'll be back tomorrow. Kids.
(34:43):
Remember we don't keep scoring. Oh yeah, we do. Hence
why they need to know about keeping scoring the fourth
grade too.
Speaker 8 (34:49):
If you had a run rule like they do in
college baseball, the Astros would be run ruled three times
in the last six games.
Speaker 4 (34:55):
Exactly which run rule we call it surrender, man, it's
five innings in in fourteen and nothing the kid. You
don't want an eight year old to suffer self esteem problems,
Well guess what. Adults suffer self esteem problems too. And
if your self esteem and your pride is not injured
after what you've seen the last three or four days,
if you're a player, that's the equivalent, honest to God,
of going out and getting curb stomped in a college
(35:17):
football game. Okay, give me a team. Who are the
Astros compared to a good team in college football? LSU? Yeah, okay,
the Astros are LSU. It'd be like LSU coming out
and in October start good, you know, hanging there, you're
in first place, you're leading the SEC. And then you
go and you play Vanderbilt and they haven't had a
good season. But their quarterbacks a grinder, da he's a
(35:38):
really good player. They what Diego Piva? He Paiva is
as probably oh Pavia, there you go, Diego. I have
always called him Diego, So I don't even get the
lastest Diego, right, grinder, tough kid. And they beat you Auburn,
I mean, Vanderbilt comes to your place and beat you
thirty seven to three, and you were favored by twenty.
Then the next two games you get a good team,
(36:00):
you gotta play Ole miss and Ole miscores forty five
on you and shut you out. Then game three you
got a head to play Georgia Detroit and they beat
you thirty five to nothing and you don't get into
the red zone the entire game. Now and your LSU,
how you feeling not great? Any pride and a very
thing you think coaches rear ends puckering. You couldn't drive
(36:22):
a nail through it with a sledgehammer thinking about what
am I going? How do you fix it? So you
just take it. A first place team they've been, that's
who the Astros. Now, that's if you walk out of
this and say, ah, it's a long season, or yeah,
everybody's tarted. Detroit's tired too. Remember when they went one
in eleven, everybody was questioning them. So it's gonna happen,
and you got to take the good when we're all
(36:43):
over it with the bat and right now, this baseball
team couldn't hit water if you threw them in the ocean.
That's got to change. It just does. Or the pitching
staff will be taxed. Their ass will be so taxed.
Fika is going to come back and start taxing your paycheck. Okay,
Jason Caesar, see you guys right there. You want to
join them?
Speaker 8 (37:04):

Speaker 2 (38:51):
Now you're back.
Speaker 4 (38:54):
This is the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 16 (38:56):
Get back at it.
Speaker 4 (38:58):
These are good morning.
Speaker 10 (39:00):
Going on, guys.
Speaker 13 (39:02):
I just wanted to say, at this point, how far
do you have to get to start making changes in
the staff.
Speaker 10 (39:13):
We've seen it time and time before.
Speaker 13 (39:16):
Injury after injury. All he'll be back, all he's been good,
sent back something major. Then the coaching staff Joe's botta
inherit's championship.
Speaker 10 (39:29):
Team and he gets knocked out in the wild card
this year.
Speaker 13 (39:34):
You know they they were, they were down pitching, and
now we're starting to get help.
Speaker 10 (39:41):
You get on the pitch a little by little.
Speaker 13 (39:43):
But like the color earlier said, you're betting Sanchez in
the third or fourth spot and he he can't. He like,
that's unacceptable.
Speaker 1 (39:54):
I get it.
Speaker 10 (39:54):
He's great defensive team. The other day he's brought two
of home runs.
Speaker 13 (39:58):
I get it, But at what point do you take
them out the line of them?
Speaker 10 (40:03):
Like? What more has to happen in order for.
Speaker 13 (40:06):
These changements to be made?
Speaker 4 (40:10):
Yeah, I appreciate the call, Caesar.
Speaker 8 (40:12):
I mean it's a constant frustration because I mean you
brought up earlier where you said, oh, well they're playing
good defense, Sean, good defense, does it matter when you're
down seven to nothing. I mean that's the problem is that.
Speaker 4 (40:25):
Well, you win awards that way, and it helps you
in a hope you get the same defense in a
two to one game, which this team. The third baseman,
he'll make a play if it's ten to nothing or
if it's one another his glove and that's his armor spectacular.
But if that's what we're pointing out in big losses,
that's just a consolation prize. You know what that is?
Speaker 8 (40:44):
That's your punter is really good at being able to
pen people back because your defense can't stop them, and
your leading tackler is the safety.
Speaker 4 (40:53):
Or your field goal kicker is the best kicker in
the league, leads the league in points. The problem is
they're all coming on field goals and you got the
worst red zone offense the league. Yeah, you know, your
your put up stats all day long, right well, for
eight for sixty seventy eight yards, you getting the red
zone and you got to keep settling for field goals
and man Our field goal kickers forty to forty and
twenty seven of twenty seven are inside thirty yards. How's
(41:15):
your red zone offense and your scoring offense? Oh, we're
twenty eighth in the league. What's the record? We're three
and ten. But man Our field goal kickers going to
the Pro Bowl? Oh? Great, Yeah, that's what this is
right now.
Speaker 8 (41:26):
No, it is, I mean, it's it's exactly that you're
getting into the red zone. Maybe you're kicking a field goal,
but more often than not, you're turning it over, just
turning it over on downs. And that's how the Astros
twenty twenty five offense has been. We've been seeing it
for months and now it's rearing its ugly head in
the worst way. Jason Rodgers, see you guys right there
working in Also get into the card that can be
(41:46):
played by the Astros. We'll discuss that here. Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 4 (41:50):
Hey guys, Ben's T Clinic, Men's t clinic dot com.
Five convenient locations, tremendous optimization team. Get yourself in there
with your insurance, your payment plan. But don't not that
didn't sound right. Make sure you invest in yourself don't
pass this up. Guys, Listen, if you're going through that, man,
whether it's brain fog or fatigue, or you're tired or
(42:11):
you need energy, you feel fat and out of shape.
You're not performing the sheets like you want to. Which
bums out, mom, and bums you out too. I'm sure
of it. Yet you just don't have the energy to
get it done. Listen. You invest in a lot of things.
This may be one of the best investments you'll make,
and it's in yourself. Man, all you got to do
is hop in that vehicle and drive to Men's tea
clinic location five convenient ones and go in there and
(42:33):
let them draw a little blood. Let's get to optimizing
what you have going on, right, it's wellness optimization, and
find out if you have low TESTOSTER. It's nothing to
be embarrassed off. It goes to people. I don't care
if you're twenty five or seventy. Hits people different at
different times. But why would you suffer with it when
there's a solution if it is low testoster, and you
get to normalizing it, and man, watch you go from
zero to sixty in about a half a second. Isn't
(42:55):
that what we all want. Man, isn't that nice? That
quicksand that kind of bogs you down on another day
when you get up, then you're saying, I can't wait
until I get to go do this again. And life changes,
and in some cases it saves lives. And what I
mean by that is some guys that are headed down
a path like man, I'm stuck in this, they figure
out they don't have to be, and that can be
a lifesaver. It's affected a lot of us the right way.
(43:16):
It's Men's Tea Clinic again. Five convenient locations. It's wellness optimization.
That's what we're looking for in twenty twenty five. Why
wait till twenty twenty six. It's time investing yourself, guys
and get into Men's Tea Clinic. It's a life changing
thing and a lot of people swear by it. I
just happen to be one of them, and I think
you will too. It's Men'stclinic dot Com, Men'stclinic dot com.

KBMS Houston ATVSHD two Houston, an iHeartRadio station, the Astross
the Rockets, Rockets East Befall your home for your home teams.
Speaker 2 (43:50):
This is Sports Talk seven ninety from the Parsons Imagine
Next Studios. Listen, say oh very Sby Houston.
Speaker 10 (44:04):
Okay, let's do this.
Speaker 3 (44:05):
Sewn Salisbury, Salisbury so usc true, longtime friend Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 2 (44:11):
Dan matthewscues. This is the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 8 (44:20):
Ten nothing losers last night in Detroit to the Tigers.
They've now lost three out the last four. Lefty Brandon
Walter been shut down with elbow inflammation, the Return of It,
and Chris Dalcanti the ad at Texas, receiving a raise
up to two point nine million and his deal gonna
run through twenty thirty six. A lot of you want
(44:40):
to get some astros concerns, critiques, just you know, air
the grievances, if you will, for how things have been
going in the recent times for the Strows. So we'll
let you do that right now. It's some one three
two one two five seven ninety. Jason wants to wag in. Jason,
good morning.
Speaker 11 (44:59):
I'm going Fellas.
Speaker 18 (45:01):
Sometimes tough decisions have to be made, and sometimes you're
in a position where you got to force somebody to
possibly come back, you know, whatever the circumstances is, because
they're in that mind, that mind stated that mentality. Hey man,
we know something wrong, but we need you, We need
you to be the guy. So part of me wants
(45:21):
to think that yourd on the the the whole thing
about him coming back may be slightly a little forced,
but it may not be. But also, and I know, Sean,
by the way, love you this morning. Man, your attitude
about the Astros a spot on. There's no way you
can there's no way you can hide it. You And honestly,
I've been listening to you for a long time and
(45:44):
I don't think you know.
Speaker 2 (45:45):
I know you've been.
Speaker 18 (45:45):
Fired up, but I don't think i've ever heard you
that fired up talk the Astros about what's going wrong.
So I appreciate that. But a lot of people are
gonna put this on a spot. He can't go out
there and hit, he can't go out there and pitch,
he can't tell you how to play. He's the coach,
he's the manager. But at the same time, you have
to make tough decisions.
Speaker 19 (46:05):
Now.
Speaker 18 (46:06):
I know a lot of people haven't talked about this,
but there's a manager in Chicago who sat one of
his best players down because he just wasn't right, just
couldn't get it. And sometimes you got to make those
tough decisions, and at some point you're gonna have to
sit some of your good guys down because they got
to fix something somewhere, So tough decisions need to be made.
Speaker 4 (46:28):
I do I appreciate it, Jason.
Speaker 8 (46:29):
I mean, I think the problem is it's like, Okay,
you can make a tough decision, and I've said what
I've said about Jose or about Jesus Sanchez, but I mean,
who do you put in that spot then? I mean,
because Christian Walker, he's been underwhelming this year, Jiner Diez
not counting on him. I mean, yeah, you can bump
them down in the order. I think that's probably about
as much as you can do, because I don't count
(46:51):
on Taylor Tremmeel to do much better. I don't count
on Chas McCormick to do much better. Victor Carrattini has
even trailed off some of his at bats last night
we're insulting, if I'm being honest, Like that strikeout that
he had, I think it was his final lot bad
of the game, where it's like that breaking ball was
nowhere near the zone and you completely look like you're
guessing it's I mean, it's it's atrocious.
Speaker 4 (47:14):
I mean, Dan, let's just parlay this forward. The way
they're swinging the bat. I know there's a collacse the
there's a a collateral effect on when some like we
talked about with Steve Sparks or and Dana Brown. When
Jordon's in there, it should make everybody else it just changes.
Should change, say it shuld change the pictures approach, right,
(47:36):
should but the way they're swinging the bat right now,
just talk talking about individually and then overall is a team,
Jordon won't be enough. It's going to take more than him.
Speaker 8 (47:50):
Now, I'm not I'm not having a high expectations he's
gonna be anywhere close to that.
Speaker 4 (47:56):
I'm talking about Jordon at his best, who can carry
a team on his back for a month or two months, right,
Jordon at his best. Think I'm talking about to think
about the whole thing. It should make the protection and
a lot of whatever. It should make. People see some
other pitches, but they're seeing some decent pitches and missing
on those two. My point is if they get hot,
(48:16):
it'll be great. But right today and what you've seen
recently and the inconsistency all year in twenty twenty five.
Just Jordon having a hot bat will not be enough.
It's gonna there's gonna have to be others. It's sizzle
too if in fact, now that's asking a lot. Guy's
been injured out one hundred plus days. You don't have
your full lineup in Your pitchers are worn out in
(48:37):
the bullpen, and the starting pitching is trying to find
their way. And it's a batting order that, quite frankly,
is they're just guys right now the way they're swinging
the bat, and that's not who they should be. But
what if Jordon comes back and these the Jordons you
saw the first month of the season, meaning looked like
(48:58):
you mean, the way he was playing, the perform in it.
It's obvious now, well with an injury, maybe that he
was feeling it then right that it was just just
he just couldn't get through the hitting zone or whatever
it was. The power just wasn't there. We're asking a
lot of that guy to come back after all this time.
And dude, we don't want to ask much, but take
a look around. The Mariners are right next to us
(49:20):
where all these injuries were trying to get healthy. We're
getting closer year back. But could you go hit four
hundred and slug it like six hundred and have an
ops of twelve hundred and carrious because right now, if
you don't carry us, we are not going to win
the division or make the playoffs if in fact we don't,
because I don't know how long you can continue to
(49:41):
post a run here and a run there and still win.
I mean even when they scored those runs, they were
low scoring wins for them.
Speaker 8 (49:48):
No, that's why I put the over under for runs
scored with bases loaded and no outs. I said it
at one and a half. You barely beat it. You
scored it two, right, congratulations. Nice couple of seeing ice
singles boys.
Speaker 4 (49:59):
Yes and so, and you've see nice singles are all
fun and games when you're up ten to nothing.
Speaker 10 (50:04):
Right.
Speaker 4 (50:04):
You saw the one on Chaz with Orbick, like they
guy I did, so I'll give you the little bloopers
like oh, Chazz, I'd give it up a hit and
you know, being comedic, and they were on the broadcast.
But it's like, come on, now, that's fun in an
old time. That's not fun now, that's exactly right. So
with this, think about what we're asking oh, and I'm
just telling you right now we can get all giddy
about Jordon, and we all are, but they're still Willy
(50:27):
or Will who is he healthy? All those things and
we can get all giddy about it and say, oh, everything.
It's like Mikey and the Life serial commercial for people
that are a little older Will, it's still problem Jordon,
He'll take care of everything. I got news for you.
They're not good enough right now, even with a hot
yord On to to scare people in a batting order,
cause you know what I'll do if it was if
(50:49):
it got to the case, guess what I'll just do. Dude,
you don't get to swing the bat against me. If
I've talked about he comes out in these very bonds,
you're not seeing anything good to hit because right now,
until the other guys prove that they can consistently see
a pitch and hit it or lay off it, you're
not seeing anything that can turn that can get you
hot and carry a team for a month. These astro
(51:10):
players know it. They are resilient as hell, but there's
a difference between resilience and performance. There's a lot of
people who get their ass kick that are resilient, and
eventually it turns around and there's a lot of people
that aren't resilient that are winning games that eventually, when
you face adversity, you won't be able to handle. The
Astros handled adversity quite well, thank you. They always have,
Lisa Absince, I've lived here. But if you're just talking
(51:31):
about the facts of watching baseball, not how you feel,
not that you're a homer, not that you got season tickets,
not that man, look at their history. Now, this is
a very average baseball team at best and with Yer
but better, not average talent, but an average performer at best. Well,
and with jin Er two.
Speaker 8 (51:49):
I mean, how many more times are we going to
see that stupid one handed front foot swing.
Speaker 4 (51:53):
Well, do you watch his last at bat last night? Yeah,
I was insulting to watch. I know the game was
out of reach, but you're still you still if you're
in the lineup, you still got to be competitive, right right?
It was h and it gets frustrated, throws it down. Well,
you know what the hell I would to take you?
You start taking pitches just to make sure Detroit doesn't
get the better earlier. They'll extended as long as you
(52:14):
can it's just like, ah, here we and I understand,
no check the game was over. But he you step
in the batter's box, do you just go in there
saying I'm just gonna take one for the team, just
get this over early so I can get to get
my late night snack. Yeah, it's there. They are a
good team. That's not a good team. It's it's pretty simple.
They're a first place team that right now, there's a
lot of first place teams that are far better in baseball,
(52:35):
in both the National American League performance wise, and it's
got to change or or it'll be it'll be a
quick out, or it won't be even an end. That's
the problem.
Speaker 8 (52:45):
I mean, that's the only saving grace is that the
Mariners continue to lose. But you know, there's only so
much longer you can say that. All right, So we
got a full board of calls. I mean, every single
line is taken right now. So coming up, we're gonna
be able to get to every single one of you.
So stick and stay. We'll continue here. Shaan Salisbury Show
on a Tuesday Sports Talk seven to ninety.
Speaker 4 (53:06):
Hey, guys, spindle tap, it's a southway. There's spindle tap
and Brody Chapman and the group have a league, the
Southwest Football League, and I'm so grateful that Brody and
his team have decided to do what they do. It's
great for tackle football. Just want to give you the mess.
It's so important and it's right there. You can see
NRG from the fields across NRG from where their fields are,
and I've been over there to look at them. Great facilities,
(53:27):
great fields, and for people in tackle football, the seventh
and eighth grade is the flagship team. That's the Oilers
and that's tackle football. And you know what, there are
scholarships available. There's scholarships available in the tackle football side.
And if you've never played tackle football, you get complimentary
free gear. Gear's expensive. But the main thing about this now, listen,
they went through their conditioning week. You go to SFLTX
(53:50):
dot org and go and see about late sign ups.
But if you don't want to play tackle, check on
the flag football league. Hell I didn't play tackle football
till I got the high school. I learned how to
play and read cut from playing flag football. So it's
great for your skill set and to understand what's going on.
And then you got the tackle leagues. There's cheer, so
you cheerleaders as well. It's s FLTX dot org. It's
(54:11):
Southwest Football League been around since the early two thousands
and they've withstood the test of time, meaning they've taught
you because you can't stick around if you're not teaching
kids well and mentoring them. Great coaches, a great league
that cares and haven't been to practice and watch the
way they do business. It's the way you want your
child to be and that's who you want to be
coached by. It's the Southwest Football League, tackle cheer, flag football.
(54:35):
Most importantly, great mentoring, great teaching. Your kid will be
better when they're done with the Southwest Football League and
scholarships are available s FLTX dot org. S FLTX dot org.
Speaker 2 (54:47):
The Sean Salisbury Show continues on your Roku. Listen to
Sports Talk seven ninety on any device with our free
iHeartRadio app. All right, Sean, what are you hearing out
there now? The Salisbury's takeout sALS Berrif takeout on The
(55:10):
Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 8 (55:22):
Sean Salisbury Show, Sports Talk seven ninety, Astros ten Nothing
at Losers last night in Detroit. Three out the last
four and the lost column. Gonna try to get things
going tonight. Hunter Brown against Trek Schouble Easier said than done.
Texans on the practice field in about a couple of
hours over in our g Park. They're gonna get the
Lions in Detroit. Final preseason action. Seven one three two
(55:45):
one two five seven ninety is the number to get in.
Speaker 4 (55:48):
Roger, what's going on? Roger?
Speaker 14 (55:51):
Good morning, Shawn and Dan. Uh. Yeah, my Asters are
going through it.
Speaker 16 (55:57):
Man.
Speaker 14 (55:58):
It's it's gonna be uh, kind of kind of weird
going going through the home stretch. But I just think
that the baseball is baseball. Man, this is what happens
in baseball.
Speaker 11 (56:09):
You go.
Speaker 14 (56:10):
But you know, I will say, I will say the
last two games remind me of up to the unsers
were I gotta get this reference. Go ahead, fire up
your YouTube and google machines.
Speaker 15 (56:21):
Uh.
Speaker 14 (56:22):
They're a game Circle nineteen eighty seven called Ring King uh.
And the object of the game was, you know, it
was it was a funny game because you know, you
would sometimes you wouldn't have anybody play with. You would
sit there and just polvarize the guy.
Speaker 1 (56:35):
It was.
Speaker 14 (56:36):
It was hilarious. Matters a pixilated punching bag is what
it was, and it was you know, that's the therasses
remind me of the last two games, just a just
a punching bag. Just and Hesus Sanchez is a man.
He looks like the DFA material now.
Speaker 1 (56:52):
Man.
Speaker 14 (56:53):
He reminds me of Serrano.
Speaker 1 (56:55):
In Major League two.
Speaker 14 (56:56):
He was just uh, he was just you know, respecting
your pitch and smiling and and just wow, it's a
good pitch. And you know, I hope he gets back
to the to the to the to the monster that
that we thought he was mac and now we haven't
really seen it yet. But you know, for all, for
all tens of purposes, it's supposed to be a master.
(57:16):
But I haven't seen it yet. Man, I've yet to
see that guy do anything. About Cia. I was gonna
get a couple of hits when he first came aboard,
but I don't know. Uh, buyers would be a welcome edition.
I'd like to see him. And what's going on with Garcia.
Speaker 1 (57:30):
He's got like.
Speaker 14 (57:30):
Three starts in Sugarland, and you know, because of his velocity,
they're holding him back. But his location is good. Jason
Ally gonna doesn't throw hard. His location, it's fine. What's
going on with that? And that's all I had to say.
Speaker 8 (57:44):
All right, yeah, no, appreciate the call. I mean, I
think with Garcia it's that, but it's also I mean,
you know, the age old don't want to rush him back,
which it's funny showing like how they'll they'll do it
with certain guys, but then others there's kid gloves like
I don't really understand it, Like it's just like if
they're ready, they're ready.
Speaker 4 (58:01):
So I guess we just answer on question.
Speaker 8 (58:03):
They're concerned about the v low and Away saw it
with Christian Hobby he located.
Speaker 4 (58:07):
And fine, that's exactly the problem. And Dana Brown had
had mentioned last week that his vello was down, so
they're keeping an eye on that. I get it. I
get Rogers O'Shane Wan Rodgers says, this is baseball, and
Roger knows, yes it is. But this is an Astros
baseball and this isn't normal baseball for a good team
to be hammered like forty three to one in the
last three or four games. No, that's not that, that's
(58:29):
not baseball. That's that's Little league mercy rules stuff. That's
not baseball. But Rogers one hundred percent right, wondering what's
going on. But the Vilo is concerning enough and they're
struggling still enough that he's still not ready to come here.
So it's it's me listen. It's one of those years
that if you check tests and their resilience, if you
ever questioned it, they got it and then they grit
(58:52):
and all that stuff. But the thing is, that's fine
and Danny, but guess what you don't have on the
on the win loss column. There's no unfortunately, there's no
column for grit, resilience overcoming injuries. There's just not and
not a soul in Major League Baseball or outside this
city feel sorry for him. And they sure as hell
don't feel sorry for themselves. But they just don't. And
(59:12):
I'm going to tell you what. They're fortunate right now
that I'm sure Seattle fans are like, what are you doing?
This is a perfect opportunity to gain ground, and they did.
They were resilient last night, battled back against Philadelphia, and
then Philadelphia didn't let it faster. The inning that the
Mariners came back, I think hung four on them, bam
right back with four more of themselves. Philadelphia. They squelched
that rally. Right now, that's who the Astros have been
(59:34):
meaning on the Philly side when they're good, on the
Seattle side when they're not. The problem is you're not
even getting to You're not losing nine to eight, fourteen
to one, twelve, nothing, ten, nothing.
Speaker 8 (59:46):
I was going to say, the Red Sox got you
nine or eight, are being scored. It's just by the
other guys.
Speaker 4 (59:51):
Did in the Red Sox get you fourteen to one,
and then they got smoked. Then they got hammered seven
to nothing and twelve to nothing, right, yeah, and then
then you get then tend enough. I mean, come on, now,
this is and when they won it was in a
late inning base hit five to four? Was it five four? Right?
That's why I said fair or not? Your pride starts
(01:00:12):
to get questioned. Well, if it doesn't you enjoy going
out there every single night and getting your ass kids
because it's happening. Yeah. Oh, there's no doubt this team
has to feel that pride, right or the I mean pride,
But there is no doubt that they have to be embarrassed. Yeah,
because it's been This is if you were just a
team that quit your golf clubs were in your trunk.
That's not who this franchise is. This This is, like
(01:00:36):
I said, it's the equivalent of thinking you've got a
chance of going out there and getting not just knocked out,
but obliterated and saying, yep, but the one thing they
won't do is tap out that.
Speaker 8 (01:00:46):
We do know, hopefully not Carl and Dickinson wants to
weigh and Carl, what's going on?
Speaker 11 (01:00:51):
Yeah, I told you earlier.
Speaker 20 (01:00:54):
They're handing out million dollar contracts like candy bars.
Speaker 11 (01:00:58):
They need to start figuring this out out. You know.
Speaker 20 (01:01:00):
It's it's a management and and uh coaching problem too.
Speaker 11 (01:01:05):
They're not motivating these people. They're too cush that you.
Speaker 20 (01:01:09):
Know, they need to have a little bit of fear
going on that field because you know, this is terrible.
We could just bring up the Double A team, bring
them all up and suit them up, and they'll do
just as good as what therese guys are supposed to
be doing. If I was Jim Crane, I'd be mad.
Suppose you paint somebody to paint your house and they
(01:01:31):
don't paint your house for you.
Speaker 11 (01:01:33):
You'd be mad, wouldn't you.
Speaker 20 (01:01:35):
Well, guess what they better start getting it together because
I don't think there's gonna.
Speaker 11 (01:01:39):
Be a tomorrow. I mean, it's bad news right down.
But thank you. I didn't mean to interrupt you.
Speaker 4 (01:01:46):
Oh you'd interrupt Thanks for the call. Yeah, it's I mean,
that's sure.
Speaker 8 (01:01:50):
The line about hanging at a million dollar candy bar contract, everybody,
everybody hands that just suck the life out of me.
Speaker 4 (01:01:57):
Yeah, everybody, I'm dead right now. I have no life
left inside of me. Everybody hands out a lot of
money that that's not. I mean, the thing that the
problem is, they're just not producing. And I'm sure mister
Crane and Dana Brown and Joe Spotted are all bothered
as all the plays they should be. I'm sure they are,
but I'm not. I'm not the million dollars that I mean,
I don't get in people's wallet. You get paid, and
(01:02:19):
you got to earn it. Just go after your pride
and dignity.
Speaker 8 (01:02:21):
Just to point out how average this team is. One
of those million dollar contracts that you handed out. Million
dollars in candy bars. Was to the guy that is,
You're leading RBI guy right now and he's got sixty
five on the season. Christian Walker and oh by the way, Sean,
he was your leading RBI guy last Friday and has
that changed? No, it is not, because guess what since Friday,
(01:02:42):
you've scored five runs as a total, right?
Speaker 21 (01:02:45):
Five?
Speaker 4 (01:02:45):
You know, Dan, I was thinking and makes it an
all in one game, and Carl makes a good point.
I was thinking, what is you know the tell me
again who leads the team at RBS. It was this
rhetorical question, at how many sixty five? Now? Listen the
way they're playing, what's the on pace for Let's say
(01:03:06):
what an RBI every three games? Is that about fair?
Eighty eighty one? That that that's hard to do. Can
you imagine when the division and your leaders eighty RBIs.
Speaker 8 (01:03:18):
So again, this team does not do anything exceptional with
the plate. He's your leading RBI guy. You're leading a
home run guy as jose L Tuova with twenty one
whose second is the guy on the bench. That's what
I'm saying. Yeah, Yeah, it's been tough. It's been tough.
You know, we got a bunch with the call of
(01:03:39):
week we got the two now for L two b
excuse me?
Speaker 4 (01:03:42):
He hit the twenty second over the weekend, right, it's
it's listen. I love this team. I sure don't love
the way they're playing, but we're not alone in this.
We just have a mic to be able to state it.
The bottom line is you got to call like you
see it, and this team right now is and everybody's
got an excuse in baseball right now they're not making
them Well, we can make it for him. The bottom eye.
(01:04:03):
Nobody cares. You're gonna play what you got, but it
is it is they are. If you pitch well against
them right now, it's like giving Scotty Scheffler a five
run lead, I mean a five stroke lead with five
holes to play. He's not giving it up right now.
The astros, you, they're spotting people big leads, and right
(01:04:23):
now they don't have the bats to swing their way
back into it, or the performance of the bats to
swing their way into it.
Speaker 8 (01:04:29):
It's not long off the team, that's the problem. John
John John, Sheena Bill.
Speaker 4 (01:04:34):
Did you say, John, we got three John's? We got
three Johns. Jacob Ja, Yeah, there you go, three John's.
Speaker 1 (01:04:43):
There.
Speaker 4 (01:04:44):
I appreciate you. Yeah, yeah, you got a little excitement
of medicine. It'll fit a little down today. I got
your Astros. But when you go John John John yeah,
let's go. I think I just I think I awakened
from a deep sleep. That's the thing. Was there a
song with the Jeff in it? Like in the name
Jeff in it? There's got to be, right, yeah, Jeff
and Richmond. A lot of songs with John in it. Right,
(01:05:05):
there's tons of songs, Okay, songs with John Bill's Uh
let's see Shena well Sheena Easton singer and then you
got Bill. There's gotta be a song with building it too, right.
Uh yeah. I was trying to come up with something
so we could put it. We could put a what
do we a collab together? We could mix the six
callers in. Let's go. We got to get to America.
Speaker 8 (01:05:23):
We're gonna make Triple Le turn into the turntable man
right there and start being able to belt out some
So yeah, we'll get to all of you. All got
a full board, so I know a lot of you
want to get in on these astros as. I guess
we can call this the airing of Grievances Tuesday.
Speaker 4 (01:05:38):
That's okay, you know what, all the good stuff we talk,
it's good to air it out. So sometimes you got
to hippy the bucket clear it out and and do
what do they call it? What do they call it
when they when you're cleared out, when you eat and
when you're drinking like urge, Yeah, you gotta just just
let's purgege, let's get rid of it all. Just blow
it out so we can move on it next day.
That's it.
Speaker 8 (01:05:54):
You want to start yelling, you want to be measured
any single way that you want to be able to
do it, We're allowing you to do it right here.
It is a show your system. That's it. That's it.
Get that fiber in there. Sports Talk seven ninety. Hey,
guys sort of pro, they'll they'll cleanse your paint. I
mean you want something, you need to clear it out
and clear that paint job.
Speaker 4 (01:06:11):
You got it home. I got somebody who can fix it.
Cirt of Pro painter as they do my house interior
X tier and I love them customer first before I
was even a part of the family and Mann did
they do a great job. And you know they do
a great job. And we all take a little pride
in that when somebody walks by or something who did this,
had somebody to ask me that when it was done
a week walk by they're walking their dog. A husband
(01:06:31):
and a wife say, man, who did who did the
paint job? And I told them, But I've had friends
that have used them and just as happy as well.
Interior X tier business or home Listen, it's expensive own
a business and a home, so why not protect it
with quality painting from cert of Pro paint or surterpro
dot com for your free estimate. And each and every
sort of pro business is individually owned and operated. They're
(01:06:53):
like family. They they they're boutique, but they do big
work and they're local. They're timely, and the treat your
home the way will that they'd treat their own, and
they sure did with me. Love them. Won't use anybody else.
And I'm a DIY guy, but to a point. I
DIY to a point, but now I get freed up
to DIY other things because I know my paint job
is handled and yours will be too. It's sort of
(01:07:14):
with the CE sort of pro painter, sort of brow
dot com for your free estimate, sort of pro painters.
Speaker 2 (01:07:19):
That's painting Happy for the Sean Salisbury Show continued.
Speaker 8 (01:07:27):
Multi time Grammy Award winning and they have the pitch
pipe out. It's like okay, right. You know it's like
it's like you're a singer. You know how to do this.
Speaker 4 (01:07:35):
Stop it now to saying God Bless America. Please stand
karaoke ch Sean Salzeburg. Would you do it if they
called NASKI to say seventh inning stretch, God Bless America
at the ballpark? Would you bless America? Yeah? I see.
I am better at God Bless America than I would
(01:07:55):
be at the National Land.
Speaker 8 (01:07:56):
I would ask the crowd to join me. You would,
I would say, would you all please join me? I
get us started. But then I would do my pet
peeve for live shows, live performances and stick the mic
out and let everybody because I figure that if you
give the ad to join in, the attentions not so
much on you. You're just the hype man. You're just
(01:08:16):
the one who got it going.
Speaker 4 (01:08:18):
And VI And I'm one of those. If you start,
you know, you're blowing out there and going, I'm the
one who's going to join in with you, because I'd
pride if you just get the feeling, you know.
Speaker 8 (01:08:25):
That's yeah, That's why I tell people, like I said,
you know the strategy for karaoke.
Speaker 4 (01:08:29):
I'm kind of nervous, but I got to get up there.
Speaker 8 (01:08:31):
Okay, pick a song that you know everybody will join in, right,
no doubt, Caroline.
Speaker 4 (01:08:37):
Yeah, if you're not, you know, man five energy, give
me some you make me water shout. Yeah, you gotta
do it so somebody call when our callers maybe check
with them. It was not an ergum. What the hell
is that thing called? Now that measures that measures your
the rhythm of like you're on a piano, just boom,
boom boom. What is that thing called?
Speaker 22 (01:08:55):
Man?
Speaker 8 (01:08:56):
You see something and yeah, it's God, I can't even remember.
I'll find it. I'm sure it's South. I guarantee Jeff
John John John Sheena. Bill, one of those. One of
these is going to know if we're taking odds. Sheena
Sheena is getting the pack. I'm gonna tell you who
I think will know. Bill in Seabrook. I'm thinking Bill
(01:09:18):
knows exactly what I'm talking about. That boom boom that
goes back and forth with the arrow on a thing
that it measures. It's a measure something. I don't know
what it's called. But I'm gonna say Bill knows this answer.
You want to try him first? Sure, we usually go
to the ladies first. But Bill's been waiting. There you go, Bill,
what's going on?
Speaker 4 (01:09:38):
Told you?
Speaker 15 (01:09:38):
See? I? I you know what I did?
Speaker 4 (01:09:40):
I I cash your ticket? You want what's that thing
when you call somebody when you're on the telepathy? No,
when our guy reads Philmin hosted it, and you can
call somebody a phone of friend. Yeah, who wants to
be a million? Who wants? I just want to I
won the whole thing I was. I had to close it.
I had one left, right, said tell us one more time?
(01:10:01):
What that's called Bill? What's it called again?
Speaker 2 (01:10:03):
Metronome?
Speaker 4 (01:10:05):
Yeah? I used to play football at the Metronome. I
mean the Metrodome, right. I got news for you. When
you threw a pickets out there was no metronome because
you're had a rhythm, and they let you know when
a home crowd boos you your host. You even got
the human Viking. That's like, I'm walking back. I'm not
even taking the motorcycle the hell? Oh yes, oh yeah, dude,
(01:10:28):
can you put me on the back and get me
out yet?
Speaker 23 (01:10:33):
I grew up with two parents who were musicians, so
that was I'm sure.
Speaker 4 (01:10:38):
I'm sure other ones knew, but I swear with your
his like you're you got a wide variety of interests.
I said, I guarantee you he knows and he didn't
google it. He knew exactly what I was talking about.
Speaker 23 (01:10:49):
I heard you talking about there you go, you Sean
you took. I was sitting here listening. All the calls
have been either anywhere from grace to totally bizarre. But uh,
you talk about Jordon coming back, and that's like, you
still exactly what I was thinking it was gonna call
if I was an American League pitcher when he comes
back whenever, that is, why would anybody throw a pitch
(01:11:12):
to that guy?
Speaker 15 (01:11:13):
Why would anybody the rest of the.
Speaker 23 (01:11:15):
Team is hitting like hot garbage?
Speaker 1 (01:11:17):
Why would you throw anything?
Speaker 23 (01:11:19):
Ne yord On, whether he's hitting great or not, don't
drow anything to make the rest of these these guys
in the lineup.
Speaker 4 (01:11:25):
It's like it's like it's like giving Tom Brady just
like he's playing eleven on seven. He gets eleven guys,
you get seven. Just let him sit back there and
throw it right. Yeah, No, I'm not doing that.
Speaker 1 (01:11:38):
There's no reason.
Speaker 23 (01:11:39):
I mean, who knows how he's gonna hit it, Because
if nobody else is hitting, you can just pitch around him,
and if you really get desperate, just put four fingers
into the very bonds.
Speaker 1 (01:11:49):
So go going to first.
Speaker 23 (01:11:52):
The rest of these slugs aren't doing anything. So anyhow, Hey,
it's been a great fun guy. Remember metrodo Metrodome?
Speaker 19 (01:11:59):
Have you got it?
Speaker 4 (01:12:01):
Brother? Thanks? Bill, dude. I'm telling you you talking about
I'm a wealth of useless knowledge. Bill's a wealth of knowledge.
I've said the same thing before too. I mean, for
most of you in the audience, you know my affinity
for movie quotes. I mean of having those, don't say,
and you still say, you know, dude, you are if
they have a show for movie quotes, go on it.
Speaker 8 (01:12:22):
I was gonna say, I mean, if you need somebody
who's a phone a friend for a movie quote, I
got you. If you need somebody you wrote the dog
on questions, I was going to say, I mean, I
can deliver the entire dialogue.
Speaker 15 (01:12:32):
Thank you.
Speaker 4 (01:12:33):
Yeah you need a you need a monologue? Right there?
I got you.
Speaker 8 (01:12:37):
And uh, you know, just random sports facts. But I've
said that numerous times. I would trade in half of
that for much better financial knowledge. Like it's one of
those that, like, you know, if you just ask me
hey in the video and be like, oh dude, the
vidio buy it low. Absolutely, you know what I got
somebody who can call okay, called trades in wealth. See,
I always say lean on experts when you quite frankly
(01:12:58):
may not be an expert.
Speaker 4 (01:12:59):
I go just hey, just a suggestion.
Speaker 15 (01:13:02):
I like it. I like it.
Speaker 8 (01:13:03):
I like your friends. I'll give him a chance. All right,
the triumvirent of John's and Sheena, all of you are next.
Speaker 4 (01:13:11):
We're gonna get to you right here. You want to
join them.
Speaker 8 (01:13:13):
There's literally two spots open seven one three two one
two five seven ninety against seven one three two one
two five seven ninety. It is the Sean Salisbury Show
on a Tuesday Sports SOX seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (01:13:25):
This is the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 10 (01:13:27):
Sales.
Speaker 1 (01:13:29):
That's good.
Speaker 4 (01:13:32):
John, good morning. How you guys doing good Man?
Speaker 21 (01:13:37):
I heard a comment by Robert Ford last night. I
mean we laughed about it because he goes, Hallelujah, the
inning's over.
Speaker 8 (01:13:45):
I mean, aren't we all kind of feeling that way?
I mean sometimes I said, it's good. It's good to
just honestly just belt it out, man, just say it, John.
I said that about I said that about nine innings
last night. Thank goodness, it's over.
Speaker 21 (01:13:58):
Yeah, no one. A couple of comments, guys, I don't
think that the actually just have to wake themselves up,
you know, and and you know and just say, well,
we really have to, you know, get in a fight,
you know, and we're proud of what they're doing because
they're in good shape considering you know, some of the
slums they're going into and all that. And then they
(01:14:21):
you know, but I mean when you you know, I
don't know, they can't wait for mister Jordan. You were
down to get back, but he could, like he said,
you can't carry the load. You know, He's gonna have
to get some help. And at this juncture, it doesn't
matter if you, you know, shuffle the lineup. Nobody's really hitting,
you know, so what do you do? So you just
(01:14:42):
leave it like it is and you know, hope for
the better, and then you know that it's just you know,
they're just gonna have to buckle up and do whatever
they need to do to you know, get out of
it alive, because if they don't, then we'll just be
sitting at home, I hopefully, And then one more saying
(01:15:03):
why in the world would you put what's his name
to pitch?
Speaker 11 (01:15:06):
So what's his name?
Speaker 4 (01:15:10):
Well, here's why, here's here's why, John, thank you for calling,
because they're getting their ass handed to them bad the
last four or five games or three or four to
the last five, three out of the last four, and
your bullpen spent. And in a game where you're losing
ten to nothing, there's no reason to go waste a
pitcher's arm or pitches on one of your regular guys.
(01:15:32):
So you're thrown every day guy out there because you
don't have to worry about his arm getting tired. It's
not going to get tired, so it doesn't matter. And
they're throwing sixty five seventy miles an hour. I think
Chasmo pumped it up to eighty at one point last night.
He just got the You could tell he got it.
Let me get I got it, dude. You want to
talk about quick pitch? There was the clock didn't even
get started, and chas was was is winding up for
(01:15:52):
his quick releases, almost like he had the slide step.
Put nobody on getting the home as quickly as he could.
Barker rolls. Do you know ply at that point, have
you got any kind of sense of humor as an
umpired damn right there. No, it's just just you know,
we're at this point. This is a tractor pull. Just
just finish this thing off.
Speaker 8 (01:16:09):
And in terms of the lineup, I mean this is
this is you know, any of us that have ever
been through where you're trying to be able to find
that next opportunity in life and professionally whatever it is.
And you say I'm grinding, I'm grinding. Okay, what does
that necessarily mean? Because is your grind going to pay off?
Are you spending your energy in the right spot? Because
(01:16:30):
with this offense right now you can say, oh, we're
grinding at bats.
Speaker 4 (01:16:33):
I mean that's why I've gotten on Joe a Spota before.
You know, we're putting together good at bats.
Speaker 1 (01:16:37):
No you're not.
Speaker 4 (01:16:39):
No, you're not striking out with runners on first and
third with less than one out or one out is
not putting together a.
Speaker 16 (01:16:46):
Good at bat.
Speaker 4 (01:16:47):
You're put together good at bat with the guy who's
sitting with a hammy trying to get it right, but
unfortunately he done. He can't put good at bats in
rehab probably, and.
Speaker 8 (01:16:56):
The guy who's got a hand that you know, hey,
we're gonna put him in there today, but then we're
going to you know, have him sit out tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (01:17:02):
But he is going to play Thursday and Friday. But
I mean it's just so that's another with jord On,
so you get him back. So it's like, all right, hey, awesome,
we got ord On back. Oh we got to sit
them tomorrow, guys. Okay. If I'm grinding on reps, I
hear coaches a lot of times yell this out, or
you'll hear them people go on TV and talk about
it and say, oh, man, just got to get reps,
(01:17:22):
more reps, rep rep. And I hear people telling young
kids this or high school kids this. The train. No, no, no,
I'd prefer good reps. See all reps just like all
money ain't good money, all reps aren't good reps. And
so if I drop back to pass and I'm out
of armslot and missing my target, dude, I'm I just
would you do?
Speaker 11 (01:17:39):
Sean?
Speaker 4 (01:17:39):
After practice, I threw for two extra hours because I
needed to work how to go. Well, I'm grinding, we
could did you take the session? Yeah? You want to
see it? Well, Sean? You you could? You threw it
through a car wash and it didn't get wet. The
problem is you missed the car wash. And if you
can't do that, well then we got a problem.
Speaker 10 (01:17:55):
Boy.
Speaker 4 (01:17:55):
But I'm grinding. Oh I understand you're grinding. Are you grinding? Yeah, dude,
I'm in the cage. They're throwing me pitches. Well, what
kind of what had you set up? When I'm struggling
with with the sweeper or the slider or the bender
on the outside half, that's non competitive strike. Well you're
laying off it. No, no, no, I'm grinding. I'm trying
to hit it the other way. Well, how you doing?
Not very good? But I'm grinding. That's that's a problem.
(01:18:15):
That ain't good. Grind, A stupid grind. He worked really hard, dad, Yes,
so do washing machines. Yeah. And if my aunt had ball,
she'd be my uncle. If just grind was the answer,
or if resilience was the answer, it's not. That helps,
But we got to it's got to be elevated to
a new life.
Speaker 8 (01:18:30):
I remember Kelvin Sampson's saying that line, Oh you know, oh,
shooter shoot, He goes, Well, it doesn't matter if you're
a bad shooter.
Speaker 4 (01:18:35):
You can shoot as many shots you want. You're a
bad shooter. Yeah, you want me to take you through
those three pointers? And they felt it here in Houston
a handful of years ago when they missed seventy four
straight when that wasn't that the one where they missed
like twenty something straight threes or something twenty seven? You
know what I'm talking about. Hey, but you know what
Dan shoo shoot, Yeah, there you go. Yeah, hitters hit
(01:18:55):
average doesn't matter. He hits one ninety seven, but he
hit thirty home runs twenty having a more solo in
a ten to one, uh deficit? Cool that there's gonna
have to be well. And then we give you the
captain obvious statements. All they got to play better? How's
that that? That's like, that's the same as saying, just
(01:19:16):
and give me reps. Hey, well let's have that clubhouse meeting. Yeah,
just say what can I need to play better? Yeah?
Can I please do this? This is the time you
do not want a player's only meeting. Please don't don't
don't give me one of those Why because the first
guy that pops up the next time they're talking to me, Hey,
we got to be more patience. Yeah. Then there goes
from a player's only meeting to a bitch fest or
(01:19:37):
a sensitive fest. Here's the best time to have players
only meeting when you're when you when when when you
reverse the score and you win in fourteen to one,
ten twelve others and going. Then you go in there
and you dress a few people down, say don't you
dare stop with this. We keep putting up all the
cliches that go with the speech. Pregamest meek, do not
when you're when you're you've already been kicked in a ribcage.
Probably not a good idea to let everybody know why
(01:19:59):
we if I'm in that clubhouse talking on going, well,
this is the time you stay away from them. I'll
tell you what. The best the best players only meeting
is look at the lineup card, go rake, win a
game and take care of your business. That's the best way.
And then you could players always say we stayed away
from I have never been on a team where a
player's only meeting was the reason we got good. Now
(01:20:21):
it may have been the reason there was a fight
three days later because the guy took it personal. But
we didn't get good. They might have a question, but
you know we did. We took reps. Dan, that's grind.
Just keep just keep taking repst Yeah, we're grinding through it.
We're we're in the grind. Team's got a lot coach.
Why Shan, why are you missing the curl route seven
(01:20:41):
feet over? The guy said, But I grind on it. Yeah. Oh,
maybe it's because your mechanics with your lower half suck ass, Sean,
fix them. Hey, hey, can you make my son a quarterback?
You know I cannot. Sorry. My favorite is when they
come in with the three hundred and twenty pounder, want
me to make up a quarterback? Then when he started
at left tackle and dominating, got a scholarship off for
the seventh grade. Yeah, get that too, and maybe okay,
(01:21:02):
he'll turn him into the round mound to touchdown. I
got a big Jared Lorenzo. Yeah, that's like my buddy.
That Andrew Thomas now with the New York Giants. He
was in his football program in Atlanta and he played
tight end. I want to keep playing tight end.
Speaker 8 (01:21:14):
Okay, keep playing tight end, but let me tell you
how much these guys make over here, and you can
put on some weight and become one of those guys.
Speaker 4 (01:21:21):
I'm sure enough he did him, everybody software, you're at
high school, Dode, I play center field. My software and
pitching right coach basefull. He goes with that. He goes
with that. On you'll be catching this year, I said,
I want to catch. Well, that's good, you're catching. Put
the equipment on the ledge. You're catching. Yeah, okay, that's
six five, two ten. You're going to be a catcher.
Speaker 16 (01:21:41):
Huh damn.
Speaker 4 (01:21:41):
I So yeah, he pulled he pulled in the Rodney
Dangerfield on here.
Speaker 8 (01:21:45):
I forget what comedian Andrew dice Clay said it was,
but the guy tried to steal his bit with a
leather jacket, and Dangerfield was the one that goes, hey,
if you're going up on stage, you wear in a
baseball jacket.
Speaker 4 (01:21:55):
He goes, no, I'm wearing a leather jacket. It's my thing.
Speaker 15 (01:21:57):
All right.
Speaker 4 (01:21:57):
Well, then you're not going up on stage there you go,
So you shine you're a catcher or you're gonna learn
to be one. Yeah. So it was that same thing here,
But all reps ain't good.
Speaker 8 (01:22:06):
Reps you put on, you put on the catcher's gear,
you wear that DM butt, that baseball jacket that's there,
that's what you're doing.
Speaker 4 (01:22:13):
That's exactly right, all right, Gena, if you're playing here, yeah, yeah,
if you want to play, that's the way it was,
so yeah, good reps are more important than reps.
Speaker 16 (01:22:21):
Well, what was it?
Speaker 8 (01:22:23):
Smarter, not harder, That's that's the way to work, Sena.
We're gonna get you out first in line, and then
John and John Luis. A couple of lines opened seven
one three two one two five seven ninety against someone
three two one two five seven ninety eight o'clock hour.
Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 2 (01:22:39):
Kd E Houston, k t V E HD two Houston,
an iHeart radio station. Yes, that's a Rocket Sports Talk
seven ninety your home for your home teams from the
Parsons that match it. Next studios. Okay, let's do this.
Speaker 3 (01:23:06):
Sean Salisbury, USC troup, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 2 (01:23:12):
Dan Matthews. This is the Seawan Salsbury Show.
Speaker 8 (01:23:20):
I don't know, maybe maybe one day we'll give you
behind the scenes of the Shawn Salisbury Show. We're discussing
it with management to see if they want to and
of course, not safe for work language wise, I probably
shouldn't admit that on the air.
Speaker 4 (01:23:33):
Yeah, we could admit that on the air. I'm gonna get.
Speaker 8 (01:23:35):
I'm gonna get, you know, Brian Erickson looking through the
little slit window we have right there.
Speaker 4 (01:23:39):
You're allowed to say, like, hey, buddy, you can't mention
stuff like that on the air. You're allowed to say
that you drop f bombs off the air, as long
as that Mike's not I was gonna say yeah.
Speaker 8 (01:23:49):
Because I always I always have to make sure, you know,
I always have to, like, you know, look around ours
the monitor on. All right, man, we're still in commercial breaks,
so there you go. Anyway, eight o'clock hour upon Us
is here. Sean Saalsby show Sports Talk seven ninety Astros
to Nothing losers last night, Brandon Walter the recurrence of
elbow inflammation. He's been shut down, so he's not looking
(01:24:09):
good for the rest of the way. Texan's gonna be
on the practice field. They get the Lions to finish
up the preseason on Saturdays. Someone three two one two
five seven ninety She nowhere are my manners like I've
needed to bring you in long ago.
Speaker 4 (01:24:23):
I apologize for you waiting. What's going on?
Speaker 24 (01:24:26):
No problem, no problem. I'm glad Bill was able to
help you out with the metronomelskind.
Speaker 4 (01:24:30):
See, I knew my money was good on you, Sheena.
I just it's on me for not getting to you earlier.
Speaker 24 (01:24:36):
No problem, All yeah, if you just give me a
moment here to kind of I don't know, stream of
consciousness rant whatever. But you know, got this Astros team
that think they were nineteen and seven in June, and
they've kind of been toasting on that, uh, those victories
from June. It feels like since then, fortunate that the
Mariners have been only, you know, mostly a mediocre team
(01:24:58):
and haven't been able to take the lead. We've had
all these injuries. If we've been asking ourselves for so long,
how have we stayed first in the first in the West.
I think some of this is just catching up to
us now. I feel like some of the fatigue and
injuries are just catching up. You know, you got your
starting pitching. Brown is not looking dominant, but he is
looking better. You know, he had some rough outings. I
(01:25:19):
don't know what to say about Arragetty right now. You know,
he's trying to find himself. Alexander has been a blessing.
I still feel like Fromber doesn't get the credit he deserves.
He had some rough outings, but Friday he gave you
seven innings of three earned run ball. That's a quality start,
and you still have everybody online call on him a
head case. I feel good about his next start. I
feel like that he is starting to come back, and
(01:25:40):
that next start we're going to see him back to
the fromber that we you know, that we trust and
that we feel like that we have faith in to
go long outings. I think on Saturday he had the
second most innings pitched of any pitcher in baseball with
a three point oh one ERA. He's gonna walk next year,
find another team. I just hope it's a team and
a fan base that appreciates what he brings, because I
don't feel like we do here. As far as the bullpen,
(01:26:03):
you know, we're hoping we keep throwing Dubin out there,
hoping he's the player that he was before his injuries,
and you know, so far it's not working. But we're
having to rely on guys like you know, Taylor Scott
that we already dfaed once. We were relying on Hector
Nerris for a while to give us innings that we
already got rid of. I mean, we're just trying to
find people to give us innings, and you can say,
(01:26:24):
you know, these guys are out of options. You don't
stend Duban a sugar lane, you dfa him, and who
are you going to bring up instead? You gotta put
Miguel Yola in our bullpen. You gotta put mc collors
in the bullpen, which has already said he's not a
bullpen guy. Garcia is out there and his blow's down.
He's had multiple setbacks since coming back from Tommy John,
so that's not a good sign. I have no faith
(01:26:45):
in Walter's coming back this season. I have no faith
in Hater coming back this season. And then finally you
got the offense. You know, you can say, why are
you put in Sanchez in the cleanup spot? He's got
a seven sixty ops. I believe against right hand pitching,
it's to spot it does. He's trying to put faith
in these guys, trying to show that he's got, you know,
faith in them and encouraging them. Would have been any
(01:27:06):
different if you put Walker or Keroteene or Diaz in
the cleanup spot. None of them are hitting either, would
be any different if you threw Tremmel out there, instead
of Sanchez. I don't think so.
Speaker 9 (01:27:16):
Right now.
Speaker 24 (01:27:17):
This is the team we got, and I don't have
a whole lot of confidence that we're going to get
a lot of other help coming in from these guys injured.
You don't know what you're going to get from nord
On coming back. We just need these guys to dig
deep and decide are they a post decent teams and
figure it out. And you know, I don't know what
else to say about that.
Speaker 4 (01:27:35):
I think, yeah, perfectly appreciate Sheena, I mean going great right, Absolutely,
you can credit, criticize and be honest that that's just
honest analysis and it's a fact. It means spot on.
And the truth is you're playing the shell game, but
(01:27:55):
underneath the shell there's so right right now at the plate,
it's empty shells man, and you're your guts, all on
your grab and stress and well let me try to
mix and match and do it and there's not production,
which led me to what, like I said, even if
you'redon is hot, the way the other guy's hitting is gonna,
I wouldn't throw him a strike. Ever, if he comes
back into the jord On we have seen in his
(01:28:16):
past and what he's known for. So I just listen.
You're fighting and scrambling, but you know what's gonna fix it?
Speaker 15 (01:28:22):
Them?
Speaker 4 (01:28:22):
Not you, not me, not Joe Aspota. Unfortunately, it's gonna
be the guys that walk into the batter's box and
write decisions by the manager. But listen, what are you
gonna do? You can look around. There's not a whole
lot of answer. Sitting out the end, going to the
waiver wire, buddy, that ain't changing your team around. There's
no the DF eight guy on somebody else's teammate saving
(01:28:43):
your team right now. I'm sorry to tell you it
just not And if they if they were able to
do that more, then they'd still be in the other place.
That's exactly right. And you're hoping some injured guys said,
but think about it as mccolor struggled. Yes, Spencer Araghedtty,
Christian Javier, we we're not really sure. But sick and
still I mean he still has anything expected, but still
that Christian havevier right, Duban, No, he's been awful. The
(01:29:07):
ners was here and gone. She's mean, but bring back
Ryan Presley. Okay, he's nuts for what you can't get
to the eighth inning or ninth inning with the lead.
Right now, you just got your world. I think you
just got your answer for what you've seen.
Speaker 8 (01:29:22):
Taylor Scott coming back, Ryan Presley ain't coming back, all right,
So none of those calls, and no more for Chaz
to play more either, that's not the answer.
Speaker 4 (01:29:31):
He's playing.
Speaker 8 (01:29:32):
He's playing a lot. Yeah, on the mound. I was
gonna say, not the place you want him? John and Needville, John,
what's going on?
Speaker 1 (01:29:39):
All right? Man, I'm about to hits off a bunch of.
Speaker 14 (01:29:44):
People.
Speaker 1 (01:29:45):
Your Don Alvarez is not the savior. Quit talking about.
Speaker 10 (01:29:51):
Oh well, when your.
Speaker 1 (01:29:52):
Don comes back. Hell, you can't even get on base.
So what if he hits a home run or a single.
He is the trout of Houston Astros. He cannot stay healthy. Yes,
he hits bombs, but that's it. Eron, geddy, take your
butt back to sugar Land, because I mean all we've
(01:30:15):
been hearing from all the people on seven eight, including y'all,
all the way down to a cry baby Adam Clinton
in the afternoons. Oh well, pick his ask, getting better,
the kistaff getting this one back, We're getting that one back,
We're getting this one back. And they don't do jacky.
(01:30:37):
They I feel like they're washed up. Season needs the end.
We are lucky we are in the American League West
because if you look at the statue, beat number four
right now, because for number three, excuse me, with boss
and hot on your butt, you just got whooped by this.
Speaker 10 (01:30:58):
Man.
Speaker 1 (01:30:58):
I'm telling y'all, this is not this is a I
said yesterday. Yo, guys, personally, this is a first round
text playoff team. Period. Quit thinking Jordan Alvarez is going
to come in with wings of praise and just open
(01:31:19):
the floodgates because it ain't happening. Everybody was all hot
and heavy on Korea being back here. Well where's that
got you?
Speaker 4 (01:31:29):
There's a yesterday.
Speaker 1 (01:31:33):
Oh wow to the caller that said about motivating these
players and paying them millions or whatever. Dude, these are
grown ass men. These ain't teenagers. You ain't got to
motivate them.
Speaker 10 (01:31:47):
This is what they do.
Speaker 1 (01:31:48):
They are paid to play a kids sport. They no motivation.
Your motivation ought to be their bank accounts and to
get their butts out there and play. I mean I
set up with just all of it, man, I mean
I've heard it and heard it and hurt and yeah,
I've been on the hold for quite a while, and
I'm gonna red. I know I'm gonna piss off some Ustonians.
(01:32:11):
That's fine. I don't give a damn Sean. You know that,
but I must. It's it's it's ridiculous some of these calls. Okay,
Ryan Presley, really, Ustonians. Quit wanting to bring back players.
There's a reason they're DFA's. They ain't worth the damn
(01:32:32):
no more. Okay, quit talking about bringing back Springer. I
was a huge Springer fan. No, that ain't gonna solve nothing.
I just may dude, it's just ridiculous. Some of the
stuff we hear on and I'm not saying I'm correct
on everything people, but but I mean some of the
(01:32:54):
stuff we.
Speaker 4 (01:32:55):
Hear and some of the takes, it's, oh yeah, John, John,
you know, I got yeah, we we gotta go. Man
appreciate it. No, I mean, it's it's it's low right now.
It's not great.
Speaker 8 (01:33:09):
But I mean the point he brought up about jord
On being oft injured, I mean, if you're being compared
to Mike Trout, I would say that talent wise, well
then you're okay, and you just got to be able
to get him back out there, and I don't expect
much when you do get him back. And by the way,
to the most recent series you played against Boston, you
beat him two out of three. That was the last
(01:33:29):
winning baseball that you've played, because well, you lost two
out of three of the Orioles, and now you're not off.
Speaker 4 (01:33:34):
To a good start against the Tigers.
Speaker 8 (01:33:35):
So, like I said, lucky that the Mariners aren't running away,
because you could very easily right now be looking at
this team being two and a half games back, but
they're a game and a half ups, so there's still hope.
All right, Another John Louis c all right there, we'll
get you involved in the conversation.
Speaker 4 (01:33:50):
You want to join him.
Speaker 8 (01:33:51):
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety against
seven one three, two one two five seven ninety.
Speaker 4 (01:33:56):
Hey, guys, country boys roofing. Our guy John just hurt
him fired up. But I'll tell you what else he does.
He gets fired up, come make sure you're safe and
sound on that roof, and welcomes his son, which is awesome.
Zach to that team and that family, obviously the family business.
He graduated from Steven F. Austin last December and now
works with the business as well as they continue to
(01:34:16):
enhance it as well as financing available at Country Boys Roofing.
So how's that family grows and the business grows and
Country Boy's Roofing grows and expands because of you. And
they're hard work to do, great work for you, expand
now they offer financing as well. What a great gig.
They are Better Business Bureau certified now, which is awesome.
(01:34:37):
A member of the Better Business Bureau. That's always a
great thing. And there's no price couching. One five hundred
dollars off for first responders, military and educators and one
thousand dollars off if you're not one of those. If
you mentioned my name on the full roof for both.
What a gig and they'll help you navigate those insurance
claim again, finance claims again, Financing available, go anywhere in Houston,
(01:35:00):
and whether the job is big or small doesn't matter.
That's who John is and one of the very few
that'll give you a consultant, give you ideas to protect
you even if he's not the one doing your roof.
What a good gig man they care. It's Country with
the K Boys with the Z Countryboysroofing dot Com is
where you go get that free estimate. John and his
(01:35:20):
guys will be out there to help you and added
a member of the family to the team, his son Zach,
and again financing available at Countryboys Roofing, Countryboysroofing dot Com.
Back to the Sean Salsbury Show, John and Sean bon
Jovi get together. It's you know collab, right that hairstyle
(01:35:41):
dude feathered of the sides, huge, great look, frosted tips.
You know what I'm saying. Oh, he didn't have fraud.
He was just a natural blonde, a dirty blonde like
we're talking about zoids man. But yeah, it was Have
you ever noticed, like I can college, the ugly girl
didn't wear overalls with one strap off? Does She never did?
And then the T shirt would be like a little
(01:36:02):
short so that there was that side where you could
see and maybe one button undone on very beverly so
but you never had that any spelling. Now, I'm trying
to figure out who's hotter the girl in college at
spring or Steve spark said it.
Speaker 8 (01:36:21):
That's probably what you got to ask yourself. Well, if
we have Sparky, like you know, we have them on.
You know, every Monday at eight o'clock, we we'll have
to ask, you know, who pulls it off? Is it
him or is it well, you know what, maybe that's
a good way. Yeah, if we're gonna add some sorry sparking,
my money's on Jenny Garth.
Speaker 4 (01:36:35):
Yeah. Well, I hate to say it, so is mine,
but my money's on him to give a great answer.
And if the Astros continue to go this way, we're
gonna need laughs next Monday. So hopefully they'll ramp this
up and we can just start celebrate the laughs instead
of I'm down. Sean asked me a question that has
nothing to do with why score runs.
Speaker 8 (01:36:51):
I guess say, as soon as soon as the joy
is gone and the relationship is just you know what, what.
Speaker 4 (01:36:56):
Is it at that point, Well, we're more than halfway there. Yeah,
And if you've got to live on a prayer, it's
a good thing to live on. But man, even the
Good Lord himself is. You can pray all you want,
but the Good Lord himselves is, Dude, you've prayed.
Speaker 8 (01:37:09):
There ain't no saving you on this one. I know
I'm omnipotent, but it only goes so far.
Speaker 4 (01:37:13):
And by the way, the guys at the other clubhouse
are praying to So I hate to tell you guys this,
but it's on you. You go do your thing because
you know what praying for it hits nice. But the
other pitchers praying for an out. So you're both living
right and one do you miss church on Sunday? Of
course with the other guy, Hey, what do you do?
You got to perform, brother, We can talk all the
stuff we want and joke, you've got to when a
ball sits there and to your strength, you can't miss it,
(01:37:37):
and you've got to get people out. And unfortunately they're
not pitching their best right now. The bullpen is taxed
and injured. You're pitching staff's taxed and injured, and you're
hitting is taxed and not and somewhat injured and not
playing well.
Speaker 8 (01:37:53):
All the above. As I was saying, the Tigers, they
they were not Tommy. Their union was not on strike
linelast night because they beat you ten to nothing and
you've just lost three out of your last four.
Speaker 4 (01:38:03):
And it will not get any easier for you guys
at the plate tonight if you're an astro, because the
guy pitching tonight. But then as goofy as this team
score eight on a crochet, right, I know.
Speaker 8 (01:38:14):
Yeah, here's hopeing, I guess, but you know the age
old saying says hope is not a strategy.
Speaker 4 (01:38:20):
The Dodgers went into Colorado last night and got beat,
so and they are in a they are in it, Okay.
The Padres are look at him saying, yeah, that's toggling
back and forth. So yeah, if if it's any solace
to anybody to make you feel good, the Dodgers went
into Colorado last night and got beat It's baseball. But
(01:38:40):
the difference was it was a run run game. I
think a one run game. There's one okay, that one okay,
that one by the third one. It's a trend and
they've been trending in the wrong way and that's not
what you want. You want to build you a crescendo
at this time of year, not the other way around.
Speaker 8 (01:38:56):
And it doesn't seem like the Astros are in that
upward trend right now, John, and has no one's to
weigh in, John, Good morning, good money, guys.
Speaker 15 (01:39:03):
You know that I'm saying, Hey, Brian Shunters, if you
want to be happy for the rest of your life,
marry yourself for an ugly wife.
Speaker 4 (01:39:10):
Understand, Hey, John, you go ahead, you go ahead with
that one, all right, taking the ugly risk.
Speaker 15 (01:39:18):
I know that's right. Hey, I'm gonna keep it real.
I'm gonna keep it real with y'all guys. Figure I'm
not I'm not gonna blame then. I'm not gonna blame Joe.
I mean Joe playing who they told him to tell
them to play. And Bran, I mean, uh uh, my
man Brown is bringing in who they tell them to
bring in. But this is the deal of Fellas. The
Deal Lives is dead, and uh hey, I know some
(01:39:41):
people don't get on me, but I'm gonna have to
keep it real up this morning. I'm keep it one hundred.
This is the deal. The Deal lives. The experiment they
had that to create their line that's not working. They
really wanted to pitch. That was what they needed to
go followed. But they sell for you know, some some
some players. And you know that big left handed hill
(01:40:01):
or they want. He's not paying it out. The little
shust the third base when they got from Baltimore. He
don't play it nothing but okay, and college Carrell, you
know what they had them for to come in, you know,
but he was he's he's not the twenty twenty one
college carell. We all know that his job was to
come in any tind of cells down there to you know,
sell the players down. But have some players in the
(01:40:23):
locker room don't know who he is because they was
all babies when he played here. But this is how
you fix it.
Speaker 10 (01:40:28):
This is the big deal.
Speaker 15 (01:40:30):
You You have to fix it back going back to
what you did when you was winning, when all the
playlf was out, this that and another, all the players out,
but you were still winning because players felt like, hey,
ain't no, ain't ain't no John killing here.
Speaker 4 (01:40:44):
I got a chance.
Speaker 15 (01:40:45):
So you have to go back to the buck, your boy,
uh the bond playing third base, pinion shust stop. You
gotta go. You gotta go to uh Walker playing first.
I mean, you gotta go back to the to the
to the people that brought you that you was winning
these games with. Yeah, son of hurt Colors, Terrell. If
(01:41:06):
you don't play every day, but it's all right here
at the end of contract. Anyway, when you finish here,
you just come home to roost.
Speaker 11 (01:41:11):
You know.
Speaker 15 (01:41:11):
He just come back home because he got his money,
got his tempt ship, so he got just a good
place to retire. So what I'm saying is that and
bringing back to Bob Rice, Rice Matthews, I'm sorry he
played second base. There's two second basements. I see when
he did up there in Arizona. I know he can
he can handle it back. So what I'm saying is
that there's not no ruining do but you gotta recognize
(01:41:33):
the experiments that you had at the trade deadline. It's
not working out with the players, it's not working out
for the team, and you got to switch or somethings,
some of your older players. It's gonna have to realize
if you're older, the the officers is coming in windows
and drop. You gotta let them play. You gotta let
(01:41:53):
them shine and stay tied the moneymus I'm sorry, you
ain't gonna bring back twenty seventeen or twenty twenty one,
just gone bye bye. So you gotta go what you
got and see how what.
Speaker 1 (01:42:04):
They take us.
Speaker 15 (01:42:05):
And we don't get a champship this year, you know
we got some of them make it for years to come.
And that's how I look at it. Hey, y'all have
a goodling. Hey, try to get the ugly woman man.
Speaker 4 (01:42:15):
Thanks, John, appreciate it.
Speaker 8 (01:42:17):
Yeah, Carlos Caorea is an eight eighty two ops and
is batting three thirty nine since he was traded over,
so I would say he has worked out. Sanchez has
not neureus mixed bag defensively, been really good and had
a game or two of decent enough offensive production. But
to his point, I mean, you brought those guys in
to be able to provide a boost for your lineup
(01:42:38):
and it hasn't been enough. I mean, Korea, as I mentioned,
those numbers can be deceiving. How many of those are
seeing eye singles? And you know, just something that was
able to kind of keep the line moving, which sometimes
you need. But this team needs more right now. You
need to be able to have with a couple of
guys on base, somebody puts a ball over the wall,
like you know, well, it's been a good time for
(01:42:58):
Hazeus Sanchez to break out this last night, runners on
the corners with one out, but instead, well you just
get a swing through in a miss and now we've
got two outs and Victor Carrottini lines out in the
center field and that's the ending.
Speaker 4 (01:43:10):
I would have liked him to break out of it
a lot sooner than that, lots sooner, but I get it.
Hits in moments that matter not. I really no offense.
I ain't getting right. If I'm at the plate down
ten and nothing, get a base hit. That does nothing
for me, Maybe it does for the guy who's hitting
does nothing. And quite frankly, I guess people gained momentum
(01:43:32):
somewhere else. But you're exactly right. Early in a game,
hits when you got a chance, like you said, with
runners in scoring position, to make a difference, to impact
the game. Right now, his bat was left in Miami.
That's the problem. He's swinging with a whiftball bat right
now against the hard baseball and it ain't working.
Speaker 8 (01:43:50):
He usually doesn't. I mean the plastic bats. You know,
you tune them up enough enough tape on there, you
can really get one. But yeah, right right now, it's
not working.
Speaker 4 (01:43:58):
Out at the old Bobby Mercer taped up, thick handled bat. Yeah,
that'd be great.
Speaker 11 (01:44:02):
Man.
Speaker 8 (01:44:02):
You want to you want to be able to make
sure you have confidence in those hands. Luis Smart, Robert John, Joe, Joe.
I apologize to you, Joe.
Speaker 4 (01:44:10):
But like you were a dead poll guy, in wiffleball.
Just no dead pull.
Speaker 8 (01:44:14):
Wiffle maybe, but uh, on the field, I got plenty
of people who can corroborate me. I'd go the other way.
You're an appohol guy, But man, are you dead pulling wiffleball?
Speaker 10 (01:44:22):
Or were you?
Speaker 15 (01:44:23):
Were you?
Speaker 4 (01:44:23):
Precision there too? Depends on the situation. You know, runner
on third, you know if I've got a chance hitting
it to the right side, you're going to move them over. Yeah.
I like your style.
Speaker 10 (01:44:32):
I like it.
Speaker 4 (01:44:32):
Team player. That's that's what I tried to do.
Speaker 8 (01:44:34):
A couple of spots open for you seven one three
two one two five seven ninety against seven one three
two one two five seven ninety.
Speaker 4 (01:44:42):
But Sean, we do it all the time. Where it's
eight thirty.
Speaker 8 (01:44:45):
Right now, So a couple and a half hours from now,
people are going to be looking around. Stomach's gonna be rumbling,
and they're saying, man.
Speaker 4 (01:44:52):
I'm hungry.
Speaker 8 (01:44:52):
Where am I going to go? Don't have the uncertainty
of what you're going to have for lunch today. Go ahead,
plant it into your brain right now. Twenty two oh
one Leland Street, that brisket, that jalapeno cheddar sausage, Jbarm Barbecue.
Speaker 4 (01:45:05):
I went ahead and made the plans for you jbar
M Jbarn Barbecue dot com. And again as you mentioned, no, no,
you don't need the phone number. Why no reservations needed.
If you need to know, just listen here. We'll tell
you what's on the menu. Partings. It's well paved actually
too and free pull in there and play it. With
the parking rate, there is no doubt about lined in
(01:45:28):
all of it. Perfect for you, close to everything, but
also someplace you want to go that is a destination
spot when it comes to great food. And we talked
it's eight thirty and you and I have both been
known to have barbecue that early now and they pitmaster
off the charts. Great customer service. The outdoor part of
this is going to be rocking as you roll along
into the fall too. It's already going and you bring
(01:45:49):
your dog, have fun, have a cold drink, and you
can actually have the same thing on the menu that
you want to eat with Clyde Drexler or Kelvin Samson
eat have at it. So it's a great place. And
you know, I experiment a lot with other places to
compare if I'm doing the right thing here when I'm eating,
and there is no better. And I love barbecue as
much as the next. I don't cook it as well
as they do, but I sure love to eat it.
And they've got a menu try new things, because you'll
(01:46:11):
go in there saying, I love this, I love this,
I love this. It's hard to decide. That's the only
downfall is there's too much good. And that's a good thing.
It'll be a phenomenal place to go visit. You mentioned,
you know, you pull into that parking lot, all right,
parking was easy. You're walking into your right. As you're
walking in, you're like, man, that beer garden looks awesome.
I can't wait to show up here during the fall
during college football. And the customer service you step right in, well,
(01:46:32):
there's no better customer service than that amazing smell that
you step into of that brisket and all that barbecue going.
Always got something going on too. And then you got
Hoffe in there saying, yeah, buddy, what's going on? Welcome in.
Speaker 8 (01:46:44):
Then you got a rush back there coming in from
the pit room and you say, hey, dude, it's too
good today, and it's way too good today. That's a
good problem. To have because you got it all with
the sides, everything else. Great bar jbar and Barbecue.
Speaker 4 (01:46:57):
You're gonna want to be a man cave right next
to it so you can spend time in there and
have the deliveries to you when and you know right now,
great place jbar and Barbeque dot com.
Speaker 8 (01:47:06):
He found out my plan jbar M Barbecue twenty two
on one Leland Street, jbar M Barbecue and Edo.
Speaker 2 (01:47:13):
But the Sewn Salisbury show continued.
Speaker 4 (01:47:17):
I love Polly Walnuts, but Polly, Yeah, if the money
in the then the then the convenience wasn't flowing. And
I'm not sure Paully would have been around.
Speaker 8 (01:47:24):
When he shows up to Rocky's restaurant, Rocky balbo at
the big hunk of meat.
Speaker 4 (01:47:29):
You know it was my retirement gift. Don't they give watches?
I gotta watch Paulie. Yeah, he can make something happen.
Speaker 8 (01:47:38):
Rock with endorsements, get that guy as far away from
those endorsements as possible, you.
Speaker 4 (01:47:42):
Know, rock I mean you know that Rocky was really
compassionate towards Pauli, because he really was. Polly would milk it, dude,
I mean he was gonna, like you said, what you
call energy emotional vampire man, not the type you need
to be around. Well, they suck it out of you
more than a physical vampire. And so was losing ten
nothing like the Astros did last night, or fourteen to
(01:48:03):
one or twelve to nothing. I was gonna say all
of it, all of it, just just keep rattling them off.
But the Astros lose their third out of the last
four games last night to the Tigers. They're going to
try to get it back on track tonight. No easy task.
Speaker 8 (01:48:15):
Derek Scouble on the mound for the Tigers and Hunter
Brown for the Stros, and the Texan's gonna get back
on the practice field here in about an hour. Someone
three two one, two five seven ninety Louise wants to
wag and Louise, what's going on?
Speaker 1 (01:48:29):
Byways? Good morning?
Speaker 4 (01:48:30):
How you doing good man?
Speaker 9 (01:48:32):
My tank is I think is a mindset that the
guys are having because I think they're more worry about
trying to go with the with the count than instead
of go ahead and hitting. I think they're for a
couple of camp smith there. Yesterday is flart, which is
is a strike card feature and why you have to
(01:48:54):
wait to strike then start hitting I mean, I think
it's I think there is the way that the whole
team because I don't think also the whole team is
going through swamp. I think it's the mindset that the
you know, the coaches or the manager are telling the
hitters that you have to wait two strikes. So the
(01:49:16):
guys are more are thinking more about the count that
instead of hitt. I think that's one possibility, my humble opinion,
and we'll be pitching.
Speaker 1 (01:49:25):
I think it's the same way.
Speaker 9 (01:49:26):
I think they're more worried about the statistics, what kind
of what kind of teach that had to do to
this guy instead of the strikes. I seem Hunter doing great,
and he just gets in throned because he started putting
throwing a ball, so either he walks the guy or
then he has throw one in the middle and then
he gets hit he I mean they get hit him.
So I think it's more the mindset that the guys
(01:49:47):
in the astros are having, which is to hear and
hit instead of worry about the statistics. So what kind
of pitches this guy hits runs? I remember one thing
that maybe Shankin related is I think Tiger when he
was playing goal will be muscile memory. You do it
at the range, but when you go and hit the gold,
you don't have to be worried about what kind of
(01:50:08):
things do I have to do? Just go ahead and
hit it. Let the muscile memory work here on the range.
I think these guys are going to hit, and for
several two it's like you's crazy. He tried to go
for the first ball and everything, but that's the way
he hits. Now he has got away for two strikes.
Then now when you have when we're being passive, then
you let the picture be more aggressive. Then when you
(01:50:28):
put two strikes, is gonna be more really much harder
to hit. I'm gonna let you guys comment. Thank you
very much for the opportunity.
Speaker 4 (01:50:36):
Yeah, no problem, you know, thanks Louise.
Speaker 8 (01:50:39):
I mean, it does look like there is a lot
of paralysis by analysis, especially at the plate right now.
That it's either he's right about lack of confidence in
terms of being able to actually do it or lack
of a judgment of the strike zone right now, but
there's a lot more thought than there.
Speaker 4 (01:50:56):
Is reaction right now. Louise is right on it is
also the only difference is one ball's moving. One isn't
in a repeatable swing and trust your you know, as
I say, you've repeated it and repeated and repeated it
a million times. Then the muscle memory, it's all, and
it's true the mechanics of it. But then you still
got a part of the muscle memory is the brain
that muscle too, of knowing when to lay off and
(01:51:16):
when not to and at times right now, discerning between
the two has been a problem for them. And the patience.
When you want patience, sometimes you're getting an over exuberance
of impatience, and when you need aggressiveness you're getting patients
at a time, and you're looking at third strikes that
are close instead of hacking that. If you were playing
with your buddies over at the park, you'd say, dude,
hack with anything close. They're hacking right. I'm not saying
(01:51:39):
they're scared is not the word, but there's almost this
sense of at times we all done it, trust we
get too cute, too fine. I mean, I've always felt
this team was better when they are free wheeling and
going brother and I understand titans up as everybody does
as the race gets closer. But this team in the
past has always been a to kind of free and easy.
(01:52:02):
When things are free and easy down the road, I
go and early on the season, and right now it's
almost as if, man, we're in this situation and can
we overcome all these injuries At the point time, they're
just playing baseball. And I know that sounds so cliche
and elementary, but sometimes you really just got to get
back to just not overmanage it, not overplay it, not
(01:52:24):
overpitch it, not overswing it. Just go back and play.
I know it's crazy, but when I see them at
their best, they're usually laughing and celebrating, and right now
there's not much for celebration when it comes to the
ass whooping they're taking.
Speaker 8 (01:52:35):
Definitely not and needs to turn around. It needs to
turn around quickly. Mark, Robert, Joe, Gary, see all of
you right there. Seven one three two one two five

Yeah, I think we, I think we. It's a little
golf joke.
Speaker 21 (01:55:15):
It is, it is.
Speaker 4 (01:55:16):
It is a golf joke, but you know, it's it's
also that sometimes sometimes you know, you need to not
know what's happening behind the curtain of Oz. Even with
the show of Oz, the curtain of Oz here is
all good, it's all it's all uplifting and all positive.
And but sometimes we just keep left around here. That's
what we do. Self esteem builders, that's it. But it's okay,
the revelation, that's what we got. Oh, oh you met
(01:55:37):
Gordy's not gonna be here because it's raining.
Speaker 8 (01:55:39):
He probably he probably just you know, rolls his eyes
right there, dude. I just touxted you, what are you doing?
Speaker 22 (01:55:44):
Man?
Speaker 4 (01:55:45):
And he said it's armagedda right right and sideway. So
be safe, Cordy, what you do.
Speaker 8 (01:55:51):
And in the meantime, we got a lot of you
who want to join at seven one, three, two, one two, five,
seven ninety. Talk to the Astros who lose ten nothing.
Last night's three out of the last six games didn't
beat by ten digits or more.
Speaker 4 (01:56:04):
Sometimes your head's about to explode about the Astros right,
We all right, did yours almost explode last night? Or
did you check out?
Speaker 3 (01:56:09):
Oh?
Speaker 8 (01:56:09):
I checked out because I told you that there was
somebody that covers the team the other day that I
spoke with, and it changed my thought process about this lineup.
I said, you know what, You're right, I'm getting mad
at them for the wrong reasons. They're not They ain't
those guys anymore. It's like David Schwimmer in the American
Crime Story about uh OJ Simpson.
Speaker 4 (01:56:27):
It's like he's not the juice anymore. It's like it's
like they're just not you know, that twenty nineteen team anymore. Well, yeah,
they're twenty twenty five, and it's different, far different. Yeah,
doesn't mean you can't win it, Yeah, but it's still
fin like twenty nineteen.
Speaker 8 (01:56:40):
I could get angry because I mean, you had, you know,
even guys batting into the seven eight spot in this
lineup that could be bating in the middle of other orders, and.
Speaker 4 (01:56:47):
You're just like, you're not beating this team. Unfortunately, windows
do those kind of windows closed, and you got to
do it with a different rapper, you know what I'm saying,
you know, not even leaving the batter's box and getting
booed at Wrigley Field.
Speaker 8 (01:56:59):
That happened, and he struggling. He is feeling it right now.
And when I say feeling it, he ain't feeling it
in a good way.
Speaker 10 (01:57:06):
No.
Speaker 4 (01:57:06):
And what's not what's been the knock on him aside
he's he don't say injuries because that was the one
year he's been durable, right yep, the one knock on
him has been what what?
Speaker 23 (01:57:15):
What?
Speaker 4 (01:57:16):
What did people say? I can't pay him that much
because he's not good win postseason? Oh, he's got to
have a postseason to validate all this great regular season stuff. Well,
at this time of year, don't you treat this? Dan?
I do, even it's that single elimination, it feels like,
don't you treat this like postseason? That's the one thing
Kyle Tucker is going to have to elevate in his
(01:57:36):
career is at this time of year and heading into
the postseason, do you elevate? And unfortunately here he did not.
Now the question is will he there? It's about in
two sixty one right now. At the Cubs. Two months
ago he was an MVP Kennis. Yes he was, and
I mean he was an All Star. He was all
of those things.
Speaker 8 (01:57:53):
Yeah, but uh no PS plus of one thirty nine,
so he's still above average for that, but still thing
not great to eight twenty one ops for him.
Speaker 4 (01:58:02):
Let's squeeze in Robert really quick, Robert, Yeah, how you doing?
Speaker 19 (01:58:08):
We're taking my call?
Speaker 4 (01:58:09):
Likewise, man, well, I want I.
Speaker 11 (01:58:12):
Want to come everybody.
Speaker 19 (01:58:14):
This is my first time caller, but I've been listening
at y'all for months and Sundays walk in. Yeah, good
to everybody mine. Don't worry about the Astros. I'm a
die hard Ascro fan. I don't care if they're lost
one hundred of thousand to three because when they was winning,
everybody was clapping up in the air, jumping in there.
(01:58:37):
The problem with the Ashtros is have nothing to do
with their home run hill that's out, have nothing to
do with it. The problem with the Astros they not
bunning the ball with man's scoring position.
Speaker 15 (01:58:47):
And I know what you're gonna say.
Speaker 19 (01:58:49):
Well, they're not a bun team, but you're not gonna
win all the time hit the.
Speaker 1 (01:58:53):
Home runs because I really don't have home run hither.
Speaker 19 (01:58:58):
You need to bunt the ball when you've gotten mads
and scrowing position. They're gonna take pressure off. Those pictures
that take pressure off. They need to bunt the ball.
They lead too many meds on base. That's number one.
The SACA thing they does. The most run that they're
going to score on them is with two outs, with
two strakes on them, with two outs, and they turn
(01:59:20):
around and beat the ashro if if you go back
and countate the game they done lost. They don't lost
all those games with two outs with two outs, and
number three, the astro let the seven and eight and
ninth hit'll beat them. If not to be getting up
the line up. But it's them seven, eight and nine
hit'lls that beat the ash Roll. That's my conversation. But
(01:59:42):
I'm still gonna be the ashro They gonna take it.
Speaker 10 (01:59:44):
They gonna win, they gonna wake up.
Speaker 4 (01:59:46):
Thank you, thank you for Robert. I don't.
Speaker 16 (01:59:52):
Uh, Robert.
Speaker 4 (01:59:53):
You seem like a nice guy. I don't. I don't
mean to be mean, but it's just it's it's the
beat to the T word. Listen. I I get moving
a guy over once in a while. I have no
problem with it, and I think everybody should bunt once
in a while.
Speaker 2 (02:00:10):
I do.
Speaker 4 (02:00:10):
It's a it's a it's a. It's alarming to me.
More alarming than the lack of bunting is the fact
that you can't do it with a guy on second
and no outs and you can't get him the third
to put a sacrifice fly. That's a problem, but people
don't practice as much. Bunting is not going to be
the difference in whether they're their record right now. If
you're they're getting beat fourteen to nothing or fourteen to one.
(02:00:31):
If they were bunting, they'll end up nineteen to one.
So but I get what he's saying. I dove moving
on once in a while, bun oh God. As a
matter of fact, the other team, if you're down twelve oh,
and you're ten enough and you try to lay down
about the seventh to get a base runner or move
a guy over, I think that a J. Hinch would
have walked out of the dugout and the players would
have just put us like really, I mean, are you
(02:00:53):
really listen? I get it. Once in a while, I do.
I think teams overlooked at at times stat of a
double play move a guy over. But I can assure
you this, the Astro season will not change because they
got one down and I'm.
Speaker 8 (02:01:08):
Just away going to ask him. I didn't want to,
and then what happened? You got to strike out in
the line out?
Speaker 4 (02:01:13):
I did want to ask him before he left, is
that how often did he want to do it? They're
having trouble getting on base, Yeah, yeah, you got.
Speaker 8 (02:01:23):
You gotta be able to get on base to be
able to even have a remote opportunity to move someone over,
and they're they're not even doing that well enough.
Speaker 4 (02:01:30):
It's uh, listen, everybody's got a solution. The problem is
that we know, we know the we with the optics,
but some of our solutions probably aren't going to play.
And unfortunately, and where I do disagree is that the
problem not having Yordan. Oh, that's a big problem having
done on the lineup. But Robert, it was Robert right,
it was. I love the fact that he called it
(02:01:52):
and he's passionate about it. I'm always in on anybody
that's passionate that believes in a topic. I swear I am.
I always if you're passionate about it, sell me on it.
I don't want you to agree with us, sell me
on it.
Speaker 8 (02:02:02):
I don't want a full board of calls of everybody
that agrees and everybody thinks, oh hey, it's going great here.
Speaker 4 (02:02:07):
Welcome back here anytime, Robert, I appreciate it. I'm not
a consistent bunt guy. But if a guy's on second,
there's there's no outs. We buy shops around here. Yeah,
and it's a one to one game and you can't
move him over with a bunt, then you're pathetic. He's
he's right about that, But bunting would not be on
the top ten priority list of keys to win.
Speaker 3 (02:02:24):
No.
Speaker 4 (02:02:24):
No, and it's not going to be the key to
turning this team around, Mark, Joe, see you right there.
Speaker 8 (02:02:29):
Also, get back into the astros lineup of somebody who
could be a lynch pin for this group. We'll talk
about him here and then we'll get Gordy in sometime
during the nine o'clock hour. I'm guessing when Noah finally
arrives with his arc Who knows seven one three two

Speaker 4 (02:02:47):
Hey, guys. On a recent podcast, a well respected business
leader said the best companies are ones that solve problems
in the market. Well, consider this new vehicle transaction prices
hover around forty eight thousand dollars. That's double they were
in twenty ten. Affordability is a problem, and with talks
of tariffs and other noise, customers are looking for a solution,
and that solution is affordable monthly payment. Some banks have
(02:03:10):
dealt with this by extending financing terms out to eighty
four and even ninety six months. In fact, over twenty
percent of auto loans today are seven years long. It's
not a mortgage, folks. This is why more clients are
considering leasing than at any other time in recent history.
And DNM Leasing is the nation's leasing leader with fifty
thousand satisfied clients on the road today. With forty nine
years in the business, we have experts that specialize in
(02:03:33):
YEP solving the high payment problem with easy leads. That's
easy leased with no money down, payments significantly lower than
buying and terms that make sense. Why wouldn't you call
DM leasing the main thing? They'll visit them online, You'll

Speaker 2 (02:04:51):
Sean Salisbury.
Speaker 3 (02:04:54):
To USC Troupes, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 2 (02:04:57):
Dan MATTHEWSCU. Jesus, this is the Sean sALS Frey show.
Tigers up in Detroit. They've now lost three other last four.
The good news is though, they're a game and a
half up on the Mariners in the West still because
the Philly is taken care of Seattle last night. Texan's
gonna get back on the practice field here in about
(02:05:18):
twenty minutes over at NRG Park. They're gonna play the
Lions in Detroit on Saturday, someone three, two one, two, five,
seven ninety is the number to get in. Mark and
garden Oaks wants to get us going here in the
nine o'clock hour, Mark, what's going on?
Speaker 26 (02:05:32):
Hey, good morning man. I'm a longtime astro fan. At
my first astro buddy was C. Sar Sadania.
Speaker 2 (02:05:40):
That's how far back I go.
Speaker 4 (02:05:41):
There you go, Casey Candell for me?
Speaker 16 (02:05:43):
What do you got? Love me?
Speaker 4 (02:05:45):
Some say Sarsdan, I got, I got a question for.
Speaker 26 (02:05:48):
The all knowings there got. There's a newspaper article here
and I want to quote back on August fifth, out
of a Pinoka or punka city over there between Oklahoma
and Wichita, Astros back stay hot prospect AJ blue Ball
(02:06:08):
turns in strong outing and wins over Marlin's what happened
to blue Ball? I thought he had a great outing?
Speaker 12 (02:06:16):
He did, and.
Speaker 8 (02:06:19):
Well, I mean they they optioned him back to sugar
Land and any one Pacific Coast League Picture of the Week.
Speaker 4 (02:06:25):
But yeah, I mean it is. I don't.
Speaker 8 (02:06:28):
I don't have a good answer for you. Mark is
the short answer, because I mean, of all the guys
that you're running out there right now, they ain't the answer.
And last time you ran him out there, he pitched
pretty well, so I suspect he'll be here pretty soon,
maybe even as soon as today.
Speaker 4 (02:06:43):
Yeah, I wish in the same way, Mark, I wish
I could help with that answer. I don't those are
decision you know how Sometimes all last day and I'll say, well,
what about the lineupersent mean, he'll say, that's a Joe
as Spotted decision.
Speaker 11 (02:06:53):
Right now.
Speaker 4 (02:06:54):
I would imagine that exactly, that.
Speaker 15 (02:06:57):
Decision.
Speaker 4 (02:06:58):
But then again, not to there's certain you know, a
certain amount of moves, you can make a certain amount
of there's just a lot going on. But I get
it because he was really good the last time out
and we discussed it on this show.
Speaker 8 (02:07:12):
I mean, you can probably make a suggestion, but really,
when it comes down to it, it's up to the
front office if they want to do it, because there's
options involved. There's joke and suggest it, but it's it's
got to go through some layers.
Speaker 4 (02:07:23):
Let's put it that way. And that's especially it's an
administrative Yeah, yeah, no doubt.
Speaker 2 (02:07:28):
It's weird.
Speaker 26 (02:07:28):
He had a great outing, He's throw and then boom,
he's gone.
Speaker 8 (02:07:34):
Yeah, I mean it's again. I mean, I can't harp
on it enough appreciate the call.
Speaker 4 (02:07:39):
Mark.
Speaker 8 (02:07:39):
I mean where he was effective for you in the
time before that, he looked like a guy that was
making his major league debut. And I mean that's that's
how it all shook out. But I mean, with what
you saw last night out of Taylor Scott and what
you've seen out of Sean Dubin, I mean, Taylor Scott's
up here in Jordan Williams is dfad. So I mean
you're trying to find somebody at this point who can
(02:07:59):
just get outs. That's what That's what Joe Spott is
trying to do. The piecemeal situation.
Speaker 4 (02:08:03):
Brother together, I can tell you this, though, you got
to get Chads some rest his his bullpen. He's taxed,
he's taxed. I gotta I got I have to see
Chris Gordy Bottom. I've got to see what dubab could
give me the bull Okay, I tried to. It's not
(02:08:25):
about that.
Speaker 25 (02:08:26):
I mean, let's see some of these I mean, it's
been so bad out of the bull pen. Let's try
some more position players. Let's see maybe has got a
killer slider to find a.
Speaker 4 (02:08:34):
Find out there. What if all of a sudden rick
and what if all of the sudden, Ricky and Keel reversed,
comes in here, come back here, damn right, and rick
could hit it you you know, finding the opening day
thirteen he's winning. I got news for you. He's winning
home run Derby's and what he goes back and visit
his teams. But in truth, flip side of it is, yeah,
(02:08:55):
can you imagine their start. I'll tell you who'd be great?
Who would be great?
Speaker 11 (02:08:59):
It is?
Speaker 4 (02:09:00):
Uh, I could throw Korea for about three and he
might tell you about ninety seven. Okay, so so you
ramp it up.
Speaker 8 (02:09:06):
He might get a couple saves, you know, the speaking
of saves, that's what tags Brian mctagger just did. Uh
telling me that blue Ball cannot be brought back until
Wednesday unless it's an injury.
Speaker 4 (02:09:17):
He has to stay down to day So till tomorrow.
Oh I forgot about Okay, so fifteen days all stupid rules.
So it's been under Here's what I that's Gordy, that's
such a great point. Brings like you gotta have a
well you gotta have an Ivy League degree in the
metrics department. What we gotta dude, we need him back.
(02:09:39):
He's coming back tomorrow. Do you wear a quarter zip
you're higher.
Speaker 2 (02:09:42):
Yes, there you go.
Speaker 4 (02:09:42):
Well is it a performance hood he or is it
a quarter zip? Well come on and and Brian obviously.
Speaker 15 (02:09:47):
See that's we can't.
Speaker 8 (02:09:48):
We can't have a guy in our front office who
looks like John Fetterman.
Speaker 4 (02:09:52):
Just can't happen. Thank you Brian for keeping us up.
Speaker 25 (02:09:55):
He's got to stay there for ten days. What if
one of our guys has a baby, Okay, then it's okay.
Speaker 4 (02:09:59):
Yeah, it's like who makes these rules? Well you better
play with eight because you can't bring him. You know
what I'm saying. It's just crazy. Thank you Brian for
letting us know that. So so tomorrow's that deadline. Bring
back Blair Henley. You know what's that guy?
Speaker 22 (02:10:11):
You know what?
Speaker 4 (02:10:11):
Yeah, you know what's that guy? It's like you're trying
to get in your Pa Henley. The door unlost this guy, Well,
we don't know, we don't. The key card doesn't work
till six a m. Dude, and blue balls on the door, like, dude,
you gotta wait a day. Key card doesn't work yet,
hang on because it's the baseball rules. I never heard
of half of these guys and the ones I do
know I have a way past their prime. Some of
these guys never even had a prime. There you go. Uh,
let's squeeze in Gary in spring really quick. Gary, what's
(02:10:33):
going on?
Speaker 1 (02:10:36):
Hey?
Speaker 22 (02:10:36):
Guys, can you hear me?
Speaker 4 (02:10:37):
Okay? Loud and clear, Gary, Okay?
Speaker 3 (02:10:40):
Uh.
Speaker 22 (02:10:41):
I think what we need to do is just take
a deep breath. There's nothing we can do about what's
going on right now. This is bound to come because
we were overachieving early with all the injuries. Now it's
coming back to where it probably should be. Maybe over
exaggerated here, but all we need to do is take
a deep breath. Or I think Joe Spot is doing
a great job from the hand he's been dealt he's doing.
(02:11:02):
I think he's doing all he can do. One thing
I would love to see, and this was before this
losing streak started. Uh, I need I need for a
two eight about second, not third, He's not a third batter,
and and uh, of course Korea bat third. And then
when Alvarez comes back, either Alvarez third or or Korea third.
I'm not sure, but they definitely need to switch those
(02:11:25):
two batters because it just seems like they might have.
Speaker 11 (02:11:28):
A better chance.
Speaker 22 (02:11:29):
I don't know, but not a whole lot we can
do right now other than just wait for the cavalry
to return and hopefully get into the playoffs and make
a run. But that's the only thing I can see
that needs to be changed at this time to make
any difference.
Speaker 8 (02:11:42):
Thank you, Gary, appreciate it as a matter of fact,
the point he just brought up, and tell you why
they would not do that. We'll discuss Chris Gordy in
for his Tuesday visit courtesy at Carbach Brewings, so we'll
get to him, and we're also going to determine your
tardiness punishment that you're going to have to serve out
here for the five minutes.
Speaker 4 (02:12:01):
But we'll get to you here shortly. It is the

I'm putting him in. I don't have to lose those points.
And I'm telling you what, all over the country, this
Renegade Fantasy app is blowing up, and I'm grateful to
be a part of it. And I do know the
(02:12:44):
people that started it, which is awesome. So there's a
belief there in it too. And what they're doing to
elevate fantasy football play and interest, that's what they're doing.
It's the Salisbury League and Renegade Fantasy App. Go get
the app, toggle through it, see what you like. You

and participate in those second season drafts and a chance
to win. You win your league five thousand dollars people
are signed up. I looked at how many people are
signing up, and I'm so pumped about it. And I
can't wait our draft to be the Tuesday before the

keep you all updated on that, but go get this
Renegade Fantasy app. You'll love it. It is the Stalisbury

Speaker 2 (02:13:43):
This is the Sean Salisbury Show. Are you not at
the time? And let's us begin now at alcohol? Oh yeah, gad.
On Sports Talk seven.
Speaker 8 (02:13:55):
Ninety, Chris Gordy joins us every Tuesday. Curtesy at car
Bock Brown, Glad you got in?
Speaker 16 (02:14:02):
Can I add another headline to your please?
Speaker 4 (02:14:04):
Please, please go ahead.
Speaker 25 (02:14:05):
Auburn has just officially claimed four more national championships in football.
I wish that was a joke, but that's a real
story that just came out. They're claiming nineteen ten, nineteen fourteen,
nineteen fifty eight, and two thousand and four when they
went undefeated. But USC and uh, who was a USC
in Texas?
Speaker 4 (02:14:25):
Was four?
Speaker 12 (02:14:25):
That one?
Speaker 4 (02:14:26):
Was that the Vince Young game?
Speaker 10 (02:14:27):
Or was that?
Speaker 4 (02:14:28):
Okay? It was USC Oklahoma and Miami. Auburn played in
the Sugar Farns. They stopped them the game they wiped
out at the late in the second quarter.
Speaker 8 (02:14:37):
So Auburn the following year is pulling an sc of
what they did in two thousand and three. LSU won
that national title. They'll give me this AP championship.
Speaker 16 (02:14:47):
I'd like to honor of the Astros conversation.
Speaker 25 (02:14:50):
I'd like to claim the nineteen and twenty one World
Series as well for the astrog So.
Speaker 4 (02:14:53):
I'd like to claim the first pick of the draft
when I came out too, But I don't get that either.
And you know what else is that? Well it's a similar,
isn't it now? So Alburns now becomes Central Florida? Is
that correct? Didn't that team? Didn't that team say that
they got there was so insufferable when they won them?
All they the national chip, putting banners up and stuff. Yeah, Well,
(02:15:14):
next thing, you know, we're gonna putting banners up because
you were finished in ninth in your conference. Hey, we
were competitive, wasn't A and M's last national title? Wasn't
it one?
Speaker 18 (02:15:23):
Oh?
Speaker 8 (02:15:23):
You got to get a dig in, don't you. I mean,
you know it's right there. I mean, I'm gonna go
ahead and take the shot. There you go, but uh,
you know, are you serious? Nineteen thirty nine? It's not
too long they going? Are they going out and handing
out rings too?
Speaker 4 (02:15:34):
For those national trips spending money on and putting diamonds,
those fighters and those four new national titles they cat
coach tubbervolt back outs.
Speaker 25 (02:15:42):
It is wild though that they I'm running for governor,
those like nineteen ten titles like you go back and
look and it's like some of those teams went they
went five and two and lost the Sugar Bowl, but
they claimed the national champion.
Speaker 16 (02:15:54):
What the hell?
Speaker 4 (02:15:54):
They played like you know, oil Can Boyd and Mordecai
three finger brown Well, I was saying that the right
guard was on the right guard was one ninety seven.
That's how much they might they might not even have
had a right guard. That's all right, Half back, go
back and look at leather helmet football stances unlike football cards.
WI frigg cry laughing. Did you guys ever do that?
Like whenever you guys did did play in nineteen fourteen?
Speaker 8 (02:16:16):
Yeah, the football photos like it always cracks me up,
Like the somewhat action shots they have, like an offensive
lineman standing you know, two point stance.
Speaker 4 (02:16:24):
Like this, Yeah, you stand in like the electric football
set with it's two rip fists together. My favorite unning
back jumping in the air. My favorite is the quarterback
parallel to the ground jump no helmet on is smiling
throwing the football and the albundy right there exactly elbows.
(02:16:45):
You guys, show good technique done. That's what it was.
Speaker 25 (02:16:47):
If Doc Brown ever invents the time machine sewn, we're
going to take you back to like nineteen nineteen hundred,
would be the greatest quarterback.
Speaker 4 (02:16:54):
Well, the problem is it two at six five, two
thirty five. I might be playing quarterback block that pass
rusher and his name happens to be Jim Thorpe. Okay,
now I'm good. I'll be playing both ways, damn right.
And I'm telling where am I gonna pay Goliath leather
leather helmet at quarterback and defensive tackle. On the other
side of the ball, right, and then you go work
(02:17:15):
your et, your your shift at the steel mill. Oh
you damn right, where you're making more money than you
were playing football. Giants.
Speaker 25 (02:17:23):
I think you could have more of an impact as
a coach if we went back in, you could drop
some point one for the GIP.
Speaker 4 (02:17:30):
I can give you some scenario speeches. Oh yeah, oh yeah,
give Smith spit and chew while I'm doing it too.
Speaker 16 (02:17:36):
Oh yeah, I get you want to pull the tackle block.
Speaker 4 (02:17:42):
You have that guard. We're gonna get him out on
the what all right, Timmy, you're gonna throw the football coach?
You crazy? Yeah, and then make.
Speaker 16 (02:17:51):
Option it right, I'm gonna throw it down the field.
Speaker 4 (02:17:53):
You throw it down the field. That's how That's how
football is gonna be played. Coach, you're crazy. You've ever
play the game this way? That's all right.
Speaker 8 (02:18:01):
But back to the Astros, I mean, just trying to
get this lineup going. Gary brought up about L two v.
Batting second Korea third. I would hate that because, I mean,
you've got Jeremy Pania who aggressive first pitch swinging, and
then jose Al Twove is not much different. So you
can be two pitches into a game, Gordy, and you're
already two outs ind of the game. Yeah, well to me,
(02:18:21):
look at at night when you had what three hits
for most of the night. They got a couple of late,
so it was five hits on the night. But I mean,
you've been shut out in three of your last four names.
We can get into the pitching staff and how bad
it's been and all that, but there ain't nothing Arroghetti
could have done last.
Speaker 25 (02:18:38):
Night when you have zero runs on the board, now
four hits. That's that's the problem. Is if you can't
you can't score. I'll run what's what's the old joke showing.
Speaker 1 (02:18:47):
Here those games?
Speaker 4 (02:18:49):
I mean, yes, if you hey, it usually says if
you don't score, you don't win. The games where the
team out scores you, you lose. So it really the
Brian Laaliva special, right, and it just it is team
and scores the most is gonna win? Great analysis? Hey,
well is that a chador of Barry Sanders? Youers?
Speaker 15 (02:19:11):
Okay?
Speaker 4 (02:19:12):
Sorry anyway, what that's not a hot take, it's a
stupid one by them. But anyhow, Yeah, it's the frustration.
But Gordya, my question too is how do you fix it?
And even I understand Jordon's coming down the pike.
Speaker 25 (02:19:26):
Yeah, but you still because do you think he's gonna
step an four hundred?
Speaker 4 (02:19:29):
Do you think I'm throwing to him? If he is,
I'm not going to tell. Somebody else proves me they
can cripple shoot my team and beat us. You're not
seeing the pitch, dude, you I don't care if you
come walking in and you're Jordon Alvarez, who in postseasons
destroys teams, you're not. Or if you're not, you're in
one eighty seven. You're not seeing a pitch. Somebody else
got to prove of me they can beat me before
you see anything. I mean it's not only that.
Speaker 8 (02:19:51):
I mean, it's just it's a lineup that since Friday,
Gordy has scored five runs, five hole and they did
it all on one game.
Speaker 16 (02:19:59):
And they need it twelve innings to do it.
Speaker 25 (02:20:01):
I mean it's the Oriols were trying to give them
that game on Saturday as much as they could. Here
on the tenth, here you go, astros runner at third,
one out, can't get them in on to the eleventh,
one two three, All Oriels say, we're not even trying.
Here here you go astros runner at second to third,
one out, can't score a run like it just it
(02:20:22):
is frustrating, man, And for this team when I look
at it, guys like we do the home run counter
and pregame and what on Sunday they were seventeenth at
home runs. I don't know where they are right now.
It's got to be they probably dropped even lower than that.
This is a team that lived in the top ten
of home runs hit in baseball, and in fact top
five most seasons.
Speaker 16 (02:20:41):
And I get it.
Speaker 4 (02:20:42):
It's an all season still didn't strike out much, right right, And.
Speaker 25 (02:20:44):
I get it's an off season where you lost for
Alex Bregman and Kyle Tucker. And that's a lot of
pop right there. You've played the majority of the season
without Jordan. That's a lot of pop right there.
Speaker 4 (02:20:53):
Oh, good news, there's just seventeenth.
Speaker 25 (02:20:55):
You had he saw Paratus who hit a bunch of
home runs for you, but then he got hurt. So
there's no threat in this lineup, Like, there's no pop.
And so if you're Joe spotted, do you look at
it and say And I get the call earlier talking
about more bunting, but like, I get it, they don't
do that much.
Speaker 16 (02:21:10):
But you have to the word's.
Speaker 25 (02:21:12):
Manufacture, manufacture a run. However you see fit get a
guy on steal. Second, like, be a little bit more
aggressive here to find a way to scratch across runs
because you're not getting it done swinging away watching Don
herdas with and whiff and wiff.
Speaker 16 (02:21:27):
It's just it's frustrating. Man, you're not gonna score runs.
Speaker 4 (02:21:29):
And if you can do that early, if you can
do that early, you start to pressure them because the
small ball when your down ten runs becomes a problem
in the seventh then know we moved him over in
the seventh. Well, you're exactly right. Manufactures a great Sometimes
it's not going good. How am I going to find
a way to You know what in a football analogy,
if LSU is not running the ball or they're not
(02:21:51):
throwing it, and they're getting there at they can't block anybody,
but at least they can get on the edge because
they're right tackles tore. What do you what's the natural thing? Well,
well then we got a manufacture field. We got to
do whatever we can. And right now, if you're if
you're skinning the cat and that one's not working skin
in a different way, No pun intended, Pita. Sorry, I'm
not going to skin the cat like the cat unless
it's the one that's hairless anyway. So that naked looking
(02:22:12):
cat so weird looking? Yeah, very so you can what
is the definition of insanity?
Speaker 22 (02:22:20):
Dan?
Speaker 4 (02:22:20):
What the Astros are doing at the plate right now?
The same thing over and over again, asking and expecting
a different result. Right, You got to change it, Gordon.
It's a great point to manufacture. And even if you're
gonna listen, they're gonna win a lot of three to
two games when they win. They're just not an explosive offense.
So what do you do if you're not explosive, find
a way to manufacture to at least put pressure on
the opposing pitching staff.
Speaker 16 (02:22:40):
And the bad news is you're facing scoobale today.
Speaker 4 (02:22:43):
So yeah, it's not getting any easier than it did
last night.
Speaker 16 (02:22:46):
I assure they're ghetting five. I don't think that's happening.
Speaker 4 (02:22:49):
Yeah, the odds are not in your favor. Do you
have time for one more?
Speaker 15 (02:22:52):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (02:22:52):
All right, let's do it. Chris, Cordy, Curtsey, you driving
that weather, He's gonna stay till now. I know I
was the one who was feeling it.
Speaker 8 (02:23:00):
It is a Sean Salisbury show here on a Tuesday
Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 4 (02:23:04):
Hey, let's talk sort of pro painters. I'm getting my
house painted a different color. I've done some interior exterior
already for right away with Curt of pro Painters. And
as a customer first, I can set up here and
tell you unlike those who don't use it and are
just saying, man, I'm here for the money grab. I'm
going to talk about a company I don't use. I
use them, and I use in the right way. I
(02:23:25):
put them to work and they do a phenomenal job.
Sertopro dot com for your free estimate. It's expensive to
own a home or a business, it really is, so
why not protect it with quality painting and the quality people.
They're local, they're timely, They interior exterior, home or business.
All those things enhance it. It's summertime, you're gonna get
to the fall. Maybe you just decide, you know what,
(02:23:45):
we're changing our couch and we're changing the stuff around it.
I'd like a different paint job and it'll be in
and out in today, gone and it'll be done, and
you're like, man, that was easy, and it was right.
The price was right, the timing was right, and they
did it as if it was their own home. That
is who sort of pro painters is Sirtopro dot com.
Each and every cut of Pro business is individually owned
(02:24:06):
and operating well. There's a commitment to you. And as
a customer, first, I can tell you there's nobody I'll
use other than curt of Pro. Even as a DIY
guy who likes and gets into that, I know, damn,
while I'm not doing the job they're doing, go to
certapro dot com sort of with the C. You know
who they are. You're gonna get great customer service and
when they're done, you're gonna look at your house say damn,
(02:24:28):
this is right. And there's the only one I'm using.
And just so Dale knows and the people at sert
of Pro, I'm coming for you because guess what, my
house needs a touch up and it's only one person
going to do it. That's sort of pro painters. Shirt
it with the C certapro dot com for that free
estimate sort of pro painters. That's painting Happy. We're for
the Shawn Salisbury show continues and had to had to
(02:24:52):
pay call down all we're pretty good. Yeah, let's unscrew
this here, guys.
Speaker 8 (02:24:57):
No doubt, but it was not a good night the Strows.
Last night we've been talking about ten nothing losers to
the Tigers. Ari Alexander reporting bullpen help on the way,
Logan Van why making his return to the rosters so fresh?
Bullpen arm out there and hopefully somebody that can at
least provide some stability back there.
Speaker 4 (02:25:16):
Well, the initial question was why, Well, yeah, he answered.
Speaker 16 (02:25:19):
It Vanners because they have to Logan Van, why because
they need it?
Speaker 4 (02:25:24):
That's right.
Speaker 8 (02:25:25):
But now, Gordy, I mean this bullpen. You know, we
were talking about it a little bit earlier and somebody
had mentioned, you know, Hater's loss isn't felt that much.
I said, baloney, it's felt incredibly hard because now you've
got guys shifting in the new roles and maybe even
roles they haven't even necessarily been comfortable with.
Speaker 16 (02:25:40):
Oh, when you lose seven to nothing, twelve nothing.
Speaker 25 (02:25:43):
I don't know what Josh Hater could have done to
help them, other than maybe could have put that Saturday.
Speaker 4 (02:25:48):
Game Hater get an inning in.
Speaker 25 (02:25:53):
It's frustrating though, because on Sunday Javier was looking good
through three innings. You give it the one run on sackful,
and then he leads due to illness and the wheels
come off. And then yesterday, I don't know what happened,
Like Arragetty looked fine through the first four innings, He's
got what five strike outs, and then in the fifth inning,
it was just like they figured him out and it
(02:26:13):
was hitting, hit and hitting again. Unfortunately a five nothing deficit.
The way this team's hitting right now is you just
knew his game over. I mean, he doesn't. They could
have lost five nothing, they could have lost ten nothing.
It didn't matter. They couldn't score a run.
Speaker 4 (02:26:26):
Do you feel like that?
Speaker 8 (02:26:27):
That is kind of what's translating to the offense right now.
Of man, we've really got to be able to provide
these guys with some run support. And then it kind
of translates over the pitchers where they're like, wow, those
guys aren't doing much, so we got to remain perfect here.
Speaker 25 (02:26:40):
Yeah, I mean, look, you mentioned it, Taylor Scott. Was
they got rid of him? My buddy texted me and
he goes, I thought they got rid of him. Like, yeah,
not only did get rid of him, the Diamondbacks claimed him.
He pitched for them a little bit, was sucked so
bad three of the Yeah, they're like, we're dumping you.
And then the ask was like, eh, I mean, we
gotta smot and sugar lam if you want to come back.
Speaker 16 (02:26:57):
And he came back. But it's like, yeah, he he
has no business pitching here anymore.
Speaker 4 (02:27:01):
Let me ask you guys this aside. You know, when
they're going good and they get on a winning streak
and beat the part of the schedule, like when the
June July when they played well compared to now, this
isn't who they are and that this year may have
not been who they are. The truth is, don't you
think the offensive production lands somewhere at mid and in between? Yeah,
isn't that who they are this year? I mean, let's
let's just call it like we see it. That's who
(02:27:22):
they are.
Speaker 16 (02:27:22):
This is an offense.
Speaker 25 (02:27:23):
So I don't get on any even I can get
you three runs now again, some nights three runs is
gonna be enough. Some nights it's not. But yeah, you're
right you said earlier, three to two wins. That's how
this team is gonna win death in the stretch of
the rest of the season. Right, It's not gonna be
eleven to seven.
Speaker 4 (02:27:38):
They're not gonna do what they've had done to them
where they score go fourteen, twelve and ten. Right, you
know what I'm saying. That's just that they're not built
that way. They're just not And even with yourd On
the in the lineup, they may not be built that way.
And what kind of production get and you know, if
you're working yourself into it, we're around thirty five games
or so, like we said, we're inside of forty. This
is you're in a dead sprint. Hand of a time, man,
(02:28:00):
it's four by one hundred.
Speaker 16 (02:28:01):
Got to go.
Speaker 8 (02:28:02):
And for yourd On too, I mean, I don't really
think that we can have much in terms of expectations.
The guy is going to be anything close to what
we're used to.
Speaker 25 (02:28:10):
I said before, I said, if he could just give
you some kind of pop, because that's what it was
said yesterday, Like they're seventeenth in the league at home runs.
If you're not could give you one to two homers
a week, And I understand maybe that's a little bit
of pressed.
Speaker 16 (02:28:25):
Let's just say one home run a week. Maybe that's
enough to hit.
Speaker 4 (02:28:28):
Two seventy five or two seventy I'll take it. Just production, run, production, right,
long ball.
Speaker 16 (02:28:33):
It's it's just the problem is.
Speaker 25 (02:28:34):
And I hate to beat up on Haesu Sanchez, but
when they made the trade for him, I remember going,
I don't even know who the hell this guy is.
You're going to look in at the Marlins roster and going, okay,
he's a guy who's batted around two forty his career,
and you know he's a left handed bat. And the
whole thing was Dana Bronkins saying, we need a left
handed bat, we need a left hand bat.
Speaker 16 (02:28:53):
Okay, well you got a left handed bet. Don't mean
it's a good left handed bat. He's okay.
Speaker 4 (02:28:57):
And and they anticipated, judging from the talk, far more power.
Speaker 1 (02:29:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:29:01):
And I heard the word prodigious when he came here.
I heard, but as somebody had said, I don't know
if it was a guest we had on talking about baseball,
if it was Dan if still, I can't remember what
prodigious power is. He's got it in his DNA straight
years of double digit home so so you thought and
prodigious that he doesn't get cheated right. Unfortunately, it's been
missing zero big way zero home runs.
Speaker 25 (02:29:24):
In an Astro's uniform. And you know what, Chaz did
his first one like a week ago, I mean his
first one of the season. So it just kind of
shows you that where there is a lack of pop
in this lineup. Essay just did have a bunch of
doubles when he first got here when they were what
debuting in Boston and all that. But even that, I mean,
what's his funk right now? He's he's got to be
it's got to be close to home.
Speaker 4 (02:29:45):
Dan said he's over twenty four or worse right now.
Speaker 25 (02:29:48):
Yeah, it's and it's just getting worse every night. So yeah,
he's got a total of nine hits this month and
those all came in the first week of August.
Speaker 8 (02:29:56):
Well, the lefty tonight, and he's woefully bad against left
I don't expect that we will be seeing him in
the lineup, but as we mentioned, it.
Speaker 2 (02:30:03):
Is k.
Speaker 4 (02:30:06):
Jazz you're talking about it. Somebody on the right hand
side school can get you.
Speaker 8 (02:30:09):
It's it's got to be Chazz probably out in left field,
camp Smith and right and then Melton and center.
Speaker 16 (02:30:16):
Gosh, a poor camp Smith that's great of a season.
Speaker 25 (02:30:19):
As he was having that that average just keeps all
the numbers keep dipping on a daily basis.
Speaker 4 (02:30:24):
I guess when they say when you haven't played in
the season this long before catches up to you. It's amazing, though,
Isn't it amazing that veterans know how to deal with
long seasons usually better than rookies, Yet rookies legs are
twenty two and fresh. It's it's there's just a way
to prepare for the long one. You'd always think, well,
young and energetic. Heck, the ball ain't heavy. Why are
you tired? Well, I'm used to seeing a lot less games.
(02:30:47):
But then you got to said that the thirty seven
year old who's like, oh I got this.
Speaker 16 (02:30:51):
It's the old argument.
Speaker 25 (02:30:52):
I remember coming to high school and uh, everybody's like, hey,
you got to get a credit card, you got to
get credit, you got to build credit. And I was like, well,
how do you get a credit card? I can't get
approved because I have no credit, right, Like, how do
you build credit if.
Speaker 16 (02:31:04):
You have no credit?
Speaker 4 (02:31:05):
Right?
Speaker 16 (02:31:05):
It's like how do you become?
Speaker 15 (02:31:07):
You know?
Speaker 25 (02:31:07):
It's like, if we're gonna treat all rookies like we can't.
I can't play one hundred and sixty two games.
Speaker 15 (02:31:11):
Are you kidding me?
Speaker 16 (02:31:12):
I've never replaced many games of my life.
Speaker 25 (02:31:14):
Well, you got to play it eventually, if you're gonna
get to a point where you're doing it every year.
Speaker 4 (02:31:19):
Guess what one hundred meters dash? Guys not doing running marathons. Okay,
you know what I'm saying. So yes, if you want
to play in a marathon, you know what I suggest.
Speaker 25 (02:31:27):
You probably want a five k before I'm gonna run
a marathon. Well, don't you want to maybe build up.
Speaker 16 (02:31:31):
A little bit?
Speaker 4 (02:31:32):
Yes, build to that crescendo. But it's there's a put
it this way. There's a lot to like about what
the Ashlas have been about this year, Gordy, but there's
also a lot that's baffling because listen, a fourteen to
one loss happens a couple times a year that type.
But the problem is this is trending in the wrong
direction because we've since the last time we hung out
(02:31:53):
on Friday of last week or Thursday, we've seen this
like three times with these with the run difference. It'
it's it quite frankly, is like I told him earlier,
it's the mercy rule. If you're playing Little League three
times in five games or four games, it's got to
get better. This can't contain.
Speaker 10 (02:32:11):
Well.
Speaker 25 (02:32:11):
The good news is the baseball gods forgiving on nights
when the Asters they go, Hey, let's have Seattle blow
one tonight too.
Speaker 16 (02:32:17):
All right, good good deal, got.
Speaker 8 (02:32:19):
Hunter Brown going to night Trek Scooble. Good one to
be able to sit in front of the TV. And
it's a good one to enjoy some treats from Carbock bron.
Speaker 4 (02:32:25):
It's a good one if you like pitching. Sorry to
interrupt court, it's a good one if you want to
take the under. I'm not sure what it is, but
take the under. It a few two hour games this year.
This one could be a two hour game.
Speaker 25 (02:32:36):
So you may want to get home, Murler, get to
your local watering hole and get that Crawford box from
Carbock Burn because you may not have You may not
be able to enjoy a ton of them. This game
may just breeze by one nothing and hopefully the Astro
is a victorious at the end of this one. But yeah,
grab yourself at Crawford Bock paris great with Astros Baseball.
I'll be back out there dyking real soon and enjoying
the taste of a Crawford from Carbock Bird right here
(02:32:57):
in Houston, Texas, and goes perfectly with astrospace ball. Just
usually it tastes a lot better when the Astros are winning,
but I'll tell you this tastes just as good even
when they're losing.
Speaker 8 (02:33:06):
The over under is seven and a half tonight, so
that under seven and a half feels like the safest.
Speaker 16 (02:33:14):
Detroit minus seven well seven nothing Detroit.
Speaker 4 (02:33:18):
Well, but you know, minus one thirty five for Astros
over six and a half. Maybe Vegas knows something. How
often do you saying a heavy favorite when Hunter Brown's pitching?
Normally a Hunter Brown, nobody's a heavy favorite. The Hunter
Brown's a favorite, right, and then he happens to be
facing the guy who's pretty good from the other side. Yeah,
I don't know. Maybe just think about it. Who knows,
(02:33:40):
maybe a Coca Cola or a two on it.
Speaker 8 (02:33:42):
Appreciate it, buddy, I appreciate it, and continue the Astros conversation.
You want to jump aboard seven one three two one
two five seven ninety against seven one three two one
two five seven ninety If you tried doing this.
Speaker 4 (02:33:53):
We'll discuss Sewn Salisbury Show. All right, guys, let's discuss
doctor Jeff witzitt Envision. Okay, uh. He he's been nothing
but spectacular for me. I always say, when I want
to know it. First off, how in the world would
somebody who's never used lasik or never been to the
eye doctor for something important, How in the world would
(02:34:15):
they be able to speak on somebody? Talk to the
people who've used it. Doctor Wits has been with me
every step of the way for the last seven or
eight years. Every step he's been phenomenal. So talk to
and friends I've sent him the same way. Talk to
those people, not the one who Well, I'm thinking about
getting it done. But here, let me tell you about
this company. How about talking about somebody who's been there,
done it. I'm seeing better than I've seen the last
(02:34:36):
thirty years. And if there's anything that needs adjusted, he's
doing it. You have the best doctor right here. You
don't have to travel out of state to go get
the Lasik procedure. Guy that you want to get it
done right in eye care doctor. He's phenomenal. He'll walk
you through it, take away your anxiety stress because there
always is when you're talking about your eyes, but with
the greatest equipment, with his great eye and hands to
make sure that you get treated the way he'd treat
(02:34:57):
his own kid's eyes. Isn't that a nice, nice bonus
we get? And then the recovery's quick, you're not on
the table long, and it's not invasive. All those things,
plus you can work out your payment plan. Get it
done right with doctor Jeff Witzeit, because your eyes are important,
as you well know, and he's going to make sure
you understand just how comfortable you can be. And that's
(02:35:18):
a good thing. He's the best in the business, and
I'm grateful. I am a patient. It's seven one three
three six five nine seven seven one three three six
five ninety seven ninety nine. You can get him at
wits it vision dot com. Go for your free review
witsit vision dot com. Sean Salisbury continues on seven ninety
(02:35:40):
Logan wants to weigh in. Logan, good morning, borning guys.
Speaker 15 (02:35:44):
What is I just wanted to ask you? Uh, there
was a picture the was it the Baltimore Pitture they
beat the last game they won. They were not supposed
to beat this guy at was it Baltimore was there,
number one guy in the rotation at a low eira
and they beat him. And the next night, it was
the night before, they played a pitcher named May.
Speaker 4 (02:36:05):
It was Boston, it was the other it was the
other way around. Eric, Yeah was the left tanner.
Speaker 15 (02:36:12):
Yes, okay, they beat him. Okay, I think the Astros.
You hear these guys Colin saying, you gotta be up there. Look,
I think they're going to be there, and all we said,
I think the Astras are going to be there. Uh,
Seattle's playing tough, but I but I think they can.
They can, they can pull it out. But listen, So
they beat a guy named Krosche and then May, who's
(02:36:34):
got a lower ear. I think the Astros are manic.
Speaker 1 (02:36:37):
I become to.
Speaker 15 (02:36:39):
They're manic. They got a guy, they beat the guy
they're not supposed to, and the next night the guy
named May. He the Astros make them look like a
cy young winner. Okay, and this is what they're doing.
Then they get a guy named Mario Rivera, the second
who lives on cutters. I knew in the first inning
before the game started it was over, so sure enough,
(02:37:02):
I listened to the first couple couple innings and I
found out I was right, They can't hit the guy
lives on cutters. Very few pitchers live on cutters like
this guy did. He specializes in it. He's Mario over
there and say, you're not going to hit the guy
and they did. Okay, but I think their managed. When
you get a guy like that, you got to go
in swinging. I don't care whether the ball's coming in
(02:37:25):
to a right hander or into a left hander. However
you're gonna get cut you got to go in swinging.
You don't want to get that reputation. But in certain
games you have to go in swinging. And they don't,
and they they seem it just seems to me like
their manic. I don't, and I've got a lot of
reason for saying that. It looks like that. What happens
(02:37:49):
and then the A's give him a lot of trouble. Now,
I do believe they're going to win six out of
seven against the Rockies and the Angels. I do believe that.
I don't think they'll lose more than one game against
the Rockies and the Angels coming up, So that should
put him in pretty good stead. But what do you
think about my analogy about, you know, just not going
(02:38:12):
in there when you got a guy who lives on cutters,
and most pitchers don't because if it don't cut right,
it's going into the stands. But otherwise he specialized in it,
and you got to go in there swinging and they don't.
So I just think that it seemed to me ro Manic.
Speaker 8 (02:38:29):
I don't know, I appreciate the call. I mean, this
is a team that, as I mentioned, two things, they
don't do well. They don't judge the strikes down well,
and they also don't handle pitchers who are able to
live on the outside well. And that's what I mean
to his point, the baseballs that you know, go away
from you, the cutters, the sweepers, sliders, any of those,
(02:38:50):
I mean, any of the breaking stuff. It's almost kind
of to a point we're saying about Yiner, why would
you throw him a fastball? How would you throw mostly
any of these guys a fastball.
Speaker 4 (02:38:58):
Well, the truth is, and when he said, man, he's
exactly right when it comes to the Mannick describes like man,
one day they're hammering somebody they're not supposed to the
next day they're what is somebody they're supposed to. So
it's a good definition of it. But they're still a
game and a half in front of the first place,
which is after all, this a good thing.
Speaker 8 (02:39:18):
You know, take a breathe in through the nose, breathe
out the negative energy. Let's hope that Hunter Brown the
company can be able to do it tonight. So that's
what's going to be in front of the strows. He's
sewn Salisbury Triple. Emmanuel Elmore, Dan Matthews, The Matt Thomas
Show with Ross coming up next right here on your
home of the Astros and the Rockets Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 4 (02:39:37):
We will talk to you in twenty hours
