Speaker 1 (00:02):
Salsbury.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Okay, let's do this Sewn Salisbury.
Speaker 3 (00:12):
To usc True's longtime friend Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Dan matthewscuse, this is the Sean Salisbury show.
Speaker 4 (00:23):
That's hit a mile high, shallow right out as Payna
racing in Sanchez Sanchez, but the collin that drops in
a run scores as Lucas comes home to throat a second,
not nearly in time to get Barger. Horrible baseball by
the Astros leads to another Toronto run. It's two nothing
Blue Jays. The one and that has hit high in
(00:47):
the air, pretty deep to left. Treml is back at
the wall and it's gone into the Blue Jays bullpen
for David Schneider, his eleventh home under the season, and
it's three nothing. Toronto. Able to get to that high fastball.
Oh one that's hit sharply field it by Guerrero. He'll
take it the first himself. And that is the ball game.
(01:12):
Kevin Gossman and even one hundred pitch shutout allows just
two hits. He gets a big hug from his catcher,
Tyler Heinemann as a Blue Jays take two out of
three from the Astros, winning today six to nothing. First
time the Astros have been shut out in a complete
game effort in nearly three years. Give me a sach, Harry,
(01:36):
what did you ask for?
Speaker 5 (01:38):
Is it deep enough? Polanco is on his way home.
Speaker 6 (01:42):
Harry comes, Pa, Harry Bard, Harry Board.
Speaker 5 (01:48):
Welcome to the big Gugs Bros.
Speaker 7 (01:51):
Pas.
Speaker 6 (01:57):
Yeah, uh huh see Sean, Sean's catching on now he's
catching on. How this goes? And with that we say
away we go and good morning. Yeah you're not tied.
Well you had what are you bitching about? You had? Uh?
You had theiddeas in the Hall of Fame yesterday. Well,
I mean I I did apologize to Diaz and I
(02:20):
still will apologize to your Diaz. I mean he joined,
he joined the chorus of everybody else not named Jeremy
Pania or Carlos Korea yesterday, which both of those hits
were singles, and then both of them left on base.
And well there's a surprise. Yeah, that coupled with I mean,
it wasn't like Hobber was terrible, but he wasn't great.
(02:41):
And it didn't matter what decisions were made or what
pictures were in the game, you were not winning that
game yesterday or the way that you were approaching Kevin
Gossman because you said mode him down. I said, brother,
he was on a riding mower yesterday to say, here,
you getting weird sound in your ears? Top, I've got nothing.
(03:03):
I've got myself really Yeah, okay, so and you.
Speaker 8 (03:09):
If I've been a ten can, but just hopefully it
doesn't sound like that going out. But I can handle
it in my ear. I he mowed him down. You
can use all the cliches you want. Mowed him down, unhittable.
Speaker 6 (03:19):
Uh, through a.
Speaker 8 (03:20):
Gym, through a h A two hit, complete game gym.
That's usually the good verbics you'll get from, you know,
a two hit Goswen was lights out, struck out nine man,
he just.
Speaker 6 (03:31):
Gits five times now in his career. He's done it.
So congratulations, you made career history. Barreled through him.
Speaker 8 (03:38):
They had no shot yesterday though the way they had
no shot, and it's gonna happen. But hey, we had
some good at bats, Yeah, dad, we had get some
good at bats.
Speaker 6 (03:48):
It's a really tough picture. Tough picture.
Speaker 8 (03:50):
Sometimes you're gonna run into those guys.
Speaker 6 (03:53):
Yeah, it's gonna get even better than I because you're
gonna face Hearston Waldrip who along with Chris Sale is
really good. Oh yeah, he's four and l with a
one point three to three e R A good cool.
Speaker 8 (04:05):
And then a big finish for saddle Damn those highlight.
Listen to the difference in the voices of the broadcasters
in the game easily considering the circumstances.
Speaker 6 (04:15):
They're having so much fun in Seattle right now, like
too much fun. And I don't want that. I don't
want those people having fun. Miserable.
Speaker 8 (04:23):
You know what's well, guess what they're making you miserable
this day?
Speaker 6 (04:26):
And daddy, I.
Speaker 8 (04:27):
Mean it's somewhat quelled. I think the somebody just struck out.
Speaker 6 (04:32):
I think the Synergenics E blockers they put me on
the other day, I think I think it's kind of helping,
you know, level out the emotions, just a little bit,
soften you up, a little bit, not soften, I would
just say, probably firmed, quell quell your yeah good word, yeah,
well yeah, just kind of quiet down. I lied to you,
(04:54):
by the way, I said that Ludvig Oldberg was leading.
He's one stroke off. I'm never gonna fight you, I
know you ever just on my mind. But yeah, you
know what, it's not even if you bring me free beer,
We're going to forgive you free beer.
Speaker 8 (05:06):
Where was I I was talking about mowing him down? Yeah,
Kevin Gosman, Yeah, Gossman and the group. Yeah, they're having
a blast and.
Speaker 6 (05:14):
Oh that's what it was, yeah, Seattle. Yeah, they're having fun.
Speaker 8 (05:17):
And you you the blockers, So you feel you're not
as disdained as you would be. I mean you resigned
to the fact they're not going to win a World Series?
Is that how you feel?
Speaker 6 (05:25):
Yeah, I mean at this point, I'm just wanting them
to make the postseason because that that looks like it's
in serious jeopardy. It has been a minute since we
said but you know for first place.
Speaker 8 (05:35):
Hey, they just they just got to play their best baseball.
Speaker 6 (05:39):
That I saw that quote yesterday. I was like, from.
Speaker 8 (05:43):
Okay, didn't Carlos say something like that. Yeah, carl didn't
he say just takes one day, got to play your
best baseball?
Speaker 6 (05:51):
Yeah? Yeah, well, Dan, you got to buy you and
I got to become an astronaut. Yeah. Well I got
to shoot sixty three of the golf course.
Speaker 8 (06:00):
Good luck with that. I'm rooting for you. Yeah, although
you do at sixty three Yeah, there's nothing. There's no
indication in my game right now that says I'm shooting
sixty three on eighteen holes, that is. And I don't
see any indication in their game that tells you that
they're a World Series team, especially at the plate.
Speaker 6 (06:19):
Am I right or wrong?
Speaker 9 (06:20):
No?
Speaker 8 (06:21):
Well we just take it one what one pitch at
the time?
Speaker 6 (06:23):
Of course. Well, I mean, Joe, spot it if you
want to, like say, you know, hey, when are you
going to call people out? I guess you got it
close to it yesterday. We need to find more consistency
in our at bats game the game. We saw some
really good at bats yesterday. The day before I thought
we were grinding some at bats and getting some people
on base, and then it became really hard for us
to do it three or four games in a row.
(06:44):
We need more of our offense to contribute. That last
line right there, Joe, that's all I've been asking you
to say.
Speaker 10 (06:52):
That's it.
Speaker 6 (06:53):
That's all I've been asking you to say. There it is.
You asked for it, you got it. But what disdained at? Yes?
Speaker 8 (07:02):
But so you know, I love Joe. I'm gonna what
do they say, Cooler heads prevail? Sure, I'll be the
I'll be the person on your other shoulder. I love Joe.
But did he tell you anything right there that you
didn't know?
Speaker 6 (07:22):
But I mean, it's just nice to hear it.
Speaker 8 (07:24):
He said that we have to be more consistent with
our bats three or four games in a row. I wonder,
I wonder if we've heard that anywhere before this show.
We've talked about the inability to sustain hitting performance three
or four games.
Speaker 6 (07:39):
Dude, I'll take it for two in a row. That's one. Secondly,
say they're a little change in my earpiece right there. Yeah,
I think I know what the problem is, and then
it's going to be addressed.
Speaker 8 (07:49):
And then there's the the the the word grinds A
big word here, big word Joe grinding out at bats?
Speaker 6 (07:57):
Yeah, they are. The problem is a result.
Speaker 8 (07:59):
Like I said, it's to a point where the grind
and the grit and the grind have to match the performance,
meaning the performance has to equal winning games of the
grit and the grind. I know, the grit and the
grind or how you get there, but if you're not
getting there, then you've got to change the way you
grit and grind.
Speaker 6 (08:16):
It does that make sense. No, it absolutely it does
because your approach is not working.
Speaker 8 (08:20):
So we didn't we didn't listen. We didn't learn anything new.
I mean, Joe just said what we know everybody's thinking. Basically,
it could have been said like this, the offense has
led us down this year. And I know you're not
going to say, but the offense has led us down
this year, and we have got to play better on
a regular basis, or we've got to find guys that will.
Now that's should be the meaning. Now I know I
(08:42):
can say it and he can't. But the truth the
matter is hit and grind all you want, but you.
Speaker 6 (08:50):
Still have to perform. You just doo.
Speaker 8 (08:52):
So maybe there's a different way to grind, and whatever
that is, I think that's a grind's a great way.
Speaker 6 (08:57):
Hell, I think it.
Speaker 8 (09:00):
Dana brown spot On, we talked about their resilience and great, Yeah,
there's no doubt, But I would say that Seattle's been
pretty resilient too. They're hanging in there and now they're
tied for first place. So a lot of people have
that the Astros have sustained that for years now, but
this feels like one of the first times I've watched
them that I'm trying to figure out. Do they have
the ability to grind their way to the point where
(09:22):
the performance matches what you expect from an Astros team
last decade, I'm not sure this year they have it
at the plate.
Speaker 6 (09:29):
I will well, that's wrong.
Speaker 8 (09:31):
To date, nobody's going to question their skill set, their talent,
but that doesn't mean a hill of beans if it's
not being performed right, I don't, matter of fact, I
don't think they do. Judging from one hundred and what
are we had one hundred and forty seven, hundred and
forty eight games or something we've played here now they
went into eighteen, so there's fifteen games to go. I
(09:54):
think after that series with Toronto, so what played one
forty seven? That's not about right since you're playing one
sixty two. They played out forty seven fifteen, Okay, so
played one hundred and forty seven games. I need you
to tell me at any point in time this year
for longer than a two week period, and I think
(10:14):
that's stretching it. Have you seen the offense produce regularly
longer than two I didn't say win a game where
they won three to two and get great pitching I'm
talking about where the bats have provided everything.
Speaker 6 (10:28):
You need for two straight weeks or more. No, well
then maybe a week a handful of games, but or
we go two, two off, win three, win one. I'm
talking about maybe there was a early July Ben Jim.
Speaker 8 (10:41):
But if we went back and looked batting out, I'm
just talking about slugging and everything, I'd like to see
where they were in those Now, I'm just talking about
and maybe the numbers don't match the optics. The optics
tell me hitting is a problem. Okay, that's what the
optics tell me. Now, somebody who got all that, you know,
(11:02):
every stat in the world in front of them, Some
that I don't care about, some that I do. The
truth of the matter is that they don't. I don't
think anybody pitching against them right now. Fear is the lineup.
I think they fear a few players, but I don't
think there's any fear in the lineup. You fear like, well,
I don't want to be the one that throws jord
On one that he can crush. But in truth is,
if you pitch around a couple hitters, you're really not
in any danger of getting hammered.
Speaker 6 (11:23):
This year on this roster years.
Speaker 8 (11:25):
Yeah, yeah, if there's I mean, you go up. I
don't think Gosman wants to throw yord on when when
things are normal. I don't think he wants to do
anything you know, to him that he can drive. My
point is there are lineups you used to go in
the past with this team and people say, damn, I
get no break. I don't know where to I don't
know where I'm who I'm going to pitch around and
what I'm gonna do this one. And fear may not
be a good word. I could tell you this. There's
(11:46):
nobody intimidated by the Astros bat batting order lineup right now.
Speaker 6 (11:49):
Hell no, they're not. As a matter of fact, they
lick their chops when they're going to face the good,
good pitching, good pitching.
Speaker 8 (11:57):
Well, it does it the most good hitting, but sometimes
the Astra's been able to hit enough against good pitching.
Good pitching, though, has dominated this team this year.
Speaker 6 (12:05):
Oh you mean, I can throw sweepers and sliders outside
and they're gonna have the same swings every single time
and then hit little weak tappers to shortstop and third base.
Sign me up, let's go.
Speaker 8 (12:15):
And Goswin was dealing yesterday, brother, And when you're play
facing a team that's been inconsistent, they're not sure they
can hit like they need to, and you get a pitcher. Hell, Goswin,
I think just got it. Seems like ten to ten
this year. But he's got the ability to go low,
as they say in a golf and he went low yesterday.
Speaker 6 (12:32):
But Carlos Korea, that's the beauty of this sport. It
just turns around in one day. Yeah, cool, great, let
me tell you something we have to find that day.
Here's what I want to tell you, Dan, I just
I just want to tell you this sporting.
Speaker 11 (12:47):
Or.
Speaker 6 (12:47):
We're having some good at bats and I just have
to be a millionaire.
Speaker 8 (12:51):
We're having some good at bats and we listen, you
know we're trying to do you know, we're grinding out
some of bats. Well, dam are grinding out of bats. Listen.
It only takes it only takes one one good game
to get us calling. Yeah, okay, Now listen to me.
Speaker 6 (13:08):
How many of those one good games have we seen
and thinking okay, maybe that could be it. And then listen,
I want you to the same deal. We're caught.
Speaker 8 (13:16):
We're coming Yeah what Yeah, I think they're I think
they're they're that close.
Speaker 6 (13:25):
I think for the most part that it's no longer
disdain with me, anger, any of those things. I think
it's apathy at this point, because it's just it's just
I don't care what you say, I don't care what
you try to show me. I'm just not going to
believe you. I don't believe in this team.
Speaker 8 (13:42):
So you are resigned instead of yeah, you're resigned to
the fact that, yes, you're that you won't see a
World Series here this year, yes, let alone maybe not
the playoffs. I told you about two weeks. Guy said,
when we start talking, we're just talking about whin the division.
All this be careful because if you don't win the division,
you're gonna be in danger of losing out on a
wild card.
Speaker 6 (14:02):
If you're not careful, you mess around this weekend in
Atlanta and then you scuffle next week against the Rangers
and Mariners. Brother, sure as you're born, this show is
turning into Texans talk. Are you asking or telling everybody?
You're asking them or telling them? I was. It was
a statement, but I mean, I guess it was also
in the form of a question.
Speaker 8 (14:23):
You're going to exclamation point behind it. It's tall Texans
all the time. If they start, if they if they
lose five in a row, you're ringing them.
Speaker 6 (14:30):
Up, dude. I mean yeah, with a week and a
half left, you're not making that up. You're your wrist team.
You're flat out ringing them up.
Speaker 8 (14:37):
Yeah, I mean like ha ha, third start ring up
or second strike call.
Speaker 6 (14:43):
No, it's third strike, ring up, ring just like you
said your on after Jeremy Pania got robbed on that
strike three.
Speaker 8 (14:49):
Right now, boom and just to punch out. They'll sit
your ass down type of point.
Speaker 6 (14:54):
It's it's it's Hazu Sanchez at the plate and in
the field.
Speaker 8 (14:58):
Jeez, tough day, dad, Dad's having a tough, tough morning.
Yesterday he had the eider in the Hall of Fame.
He was giddy as could be about the.
Speaker 6 (15:13):
Remember I said to you, guys, said Dad, I'll talk
to you tomorrow. It's not just it's.
Speaker 8 (15:20):
Everyone said, what what what happens tomorrow? What happens tomorrow?
If we come in here and they you know, got
got hammered, Well here we are hurt.
Speaker 6 (15:30):
I paid it off. Here we are. I prove you right.
You got that, you got that going for you. Here
we are.
Speaker 8 (15:38):
Yeah, hey, listen, bad, I'm just gonna sit here for
four hours and laugh because watching you get bad, yell
at You're gonna be on your front yard looking at
the stars and yelling at this clouds, aren't you.
Speaker 6 (15:52):
I might have a cigar just to calm me down,
but I mean there might be steering.
Speaker 8 (15:56):
Grab a joint, dude, get yourself a gummy. Forget the
cigar you're at. You're at that stage now you're gonna
just bypass forget the grit, Get pass a cigarette. Go
right past that, past that cigar I got for you,
Get rid of a dip Copenhagen, and go right to
the gummy. Were right to the delta dine or something.
They were right to the gummy little th HC ten
(16:16):
because I've as at her laugh all day. Because by
the time the show's over, you're gonna be standing out
in front of this building staring up at the clouds.
Yellow Carlos because he said, hey, it only takes one
bad yeah, just and and that one day has to
be soon for us to turn it around.
Speaker 6 (16:36):
Get on a hot streak leading into the playoffs. That
would be beautiful to see. How about beautiful to do
because you guys haven't done it. What did you say?
He said, What now? He said, because hopefully that'll happen soon. Yeah,
that's that's that's the beauty of the sport. Dude.
Speaker 8 (16:53):
You think one hundred and forties having games in you
hope it happened soon. Yeah, that'd be great. Exactly.
Speaker 6 (16:59):
I love it.
Speaker 8 (16:59):
I can't, I can't. I can't let the disdain get me.
I yelling at the clouds like you today. I mean,
but I'll, but I'll, I'll support you.
Speaker 6 (17:07):
I mean, it's it's it's I've got my breakfast next
to me, so maybe maybe after I eat some of that,
I'll feel better. We've got a catch. I already got
called up. Mattress back.
Speaker 8 (17:14):
He's going to deliver a couch here for you cool,
and we'll get a sports psychologist and doctor Bob Rotell
is going to walk you through it. Time it's done,
you may have his ass laid on the count. Well
you know what that's and you said in his chair,
that's every way like I can't handle him, but I
got to beat out of that count.
Speaker 6 (17:29):
Yeah, exactly what happened to that guy? Yeah, he had
one patient who turned it for him.
Speaker 8 (17:36):
Now he has to hire a psychology. Yes, I can't wait, man.
Speaker 6 (17:39):
Yeah, I love it. Well, I'll try to pay that
off again. Do you realize it's six eighteen right now?
Do you realize that not one of us has paid
attention to the clock and we're late getting out? That's fine.
What are they going to take your scholarship? I hope not.
Speaker 8 (17:50):
There you go, that'd be nice. But listen, let's hopefully
go on a streak here. Yeah, it's the beauty. That's
the beauty of the beauty of the radio. That's the
beauty of the show.
Speaker 6 (17:58):
And there's always a next day. Yeah, and we can
get on a hot streak. Roger Billy will get you involved.
You want to join him?
Speaker 10 (18:05):
Someone three.
Speaker 6 (18:06):
We are going to stop it. Dan, don't be back
to you. Listen to him. Dan will be back to
your Listen to him.
Speaker 8 (18:11):
Roger and Billy, as you guys both know, Dan will
be back to you around nine nine oh five.
Speaker 6 (18:15):
Man, hang in there. We'll got you. Hey. By the way,
Dan tell them worse places to go. Get you involved
in the conversation. You know it. Sean Salisbury Show Sports
Socks seven ninety and.
Speaker 5 (18:26):
The Shawn Salisbury Show continued.
Speaker 6 (18:56):
Sean Salisbury Show, Sports Socks seven ninety I'll fight song
Fry Day around these parts. Astros lose to the Blue
Jays in Toronto. Six nothing, fight song Friday, these nuts.
I'm on one today, dude, you are? I am it
all laughing way disdain Dan and fight song Friday shot right.
Speaker 8 (19:15):
So yeah, well, not not quite a fit. But but
I love my Fridays, dude, I do. Fridays are great
to do. You know, getting ready? But you got a
ball strike?
Speaker 6 (19:23):
No, I mean you do. I'm looking forward. I mean
you know it's just a little inconsistent. That's fine. Yeah,
I just I need I need some some more reps,
get the touch back, all of that. But what are
you hating on? Dan? Well, I mean the Mariners winning
last night, tying this thing up. So got to be
in front of the TV to make sure, you know, hey,
(19:44):
when when this team finally does turn the.
Speaker 8 (19:46):
Corner, maybe you're the rally cap problem could be? I
mean TV off, go play golf. Maybe And when you say, Sean,
I didn't see it.
Speaker 6 (19:53):
Well, the last one I played golf, they won. So
maybe you're onto something. I think I might be. Yeah,
so maybe maybe maybe I find a twilight round somewhere
today and go play a little balls. Yeah, yeah, just possibility. Yeah,
go gold milk.
Speaker 8 (20:04):
Some of your connections people, you know, all these big
private club.
Speaker 6 (20:07):
But somebody, somebody out there in the sales pit. Yeah, man,
I get you on somewhere too o'clock. That work for you.
There you go, grinding for it, grind okay, you know what? Hey,
then I'll be able to grind through a round. There
you go. Sometimes got a ham and egg it. Yeah,
I mean the driving is fine, it's just around the
greens is the problem. We'll work on it. We'll work
(20:29):
on it. But the Mariners win last night, So now
the Astros and them were tied, and the Texan is
gonna get back on the practice field get ready for
Monday night against Tampa Bay at NRG Stadium seven one
three two one two five seven ninety. Roger is gonna
lead us off this morning. Good morning, Roger, good morning.
Speaker 9 (20:47):
Hey.
Speaker 1 (20:48):
It's it's it is what it is, man. Uh, I'm
about to you know, next week, I'm pretty gonna have
a ul A service provided for the Astro season.
Speaker 12 (20:58):
I think it.
Speaker 1 (20:58):
They're they're about we're about to call Tom and death here. No,
they're gonna call it Tom and death with the Astros
here pretty soon. I'm pretty sure. Boy, the weekend, I
think they'll be they'll be coad. They're just not telling
them to get through all the injuries they had, Man,
a lot of injuries. Case in point, the other day,
a Brave comes out and blows the safe. Now he
bounced back the other day, but you know that was
(21:20):
a game cost because you didn't have your talent there
and you know, just too many, too many things going
back to the Assos this year, you know, you know,
just I think we're just I think the fire burn
Brighter not having postseason get that get that nasty taste,
they have that nasty taste in their mouth all all
(21:41):
winter to the year, prepared for the next year and hopefully,
you know, do some kind of trade with the with
Walker because you know Paradis would be better at first basis,
you know.
Speaker 9 (21:51):
Stuff like that.
Speaker 1 (21:52):
But yeah, I think I think they're about to pull
the cord about brought pull the cord on the on
the strows for this season, unfortunately. Man, I'm I mean,
I wouldn't mind seeing in the playoffs, but what are
they You're really going to do with the playoffs. What
do you expected to do in the playoffs. I mean
it's pretty much going to be like last year worse.
So yeah, it's gonna be rocket Yeah.
Speaker 6 (22:12):
Pull yeah, pull pull the cord. We Yeah, thanks Roger,
appreciate it.
Speaker 8 (22:16):
Thank you, Roger. And nobody ever wants a bad taste
in their mouth.
Speaker 6 (22:20):
No, y, that's that's interesting you say that, like, you
know anyway, you know, like bad taste in my mouth. No,
nobody wants that. Rid of it, like, get rid of it.
I was just listening to Charlie Sheen on Joe Rogan.
He was talking about an example of something. He goes,
that's just like, you know, you see a bottle of
something and you drink it and it's not what it is,
(22:41):
so you know, your brain is already preparing, like, you know,
say it's a you know, supposed to be a bottle
of Coca cola and it's, uh, you know, the diet version.
You're like, that's not what I expected, right, Yeah, that's
pretty much. They do taste different. Yeah, there you go.
Nobody wants a bad taste, No, nobody does. Nobody wants that,
and Roger, nobody needs it. Rod said, something there that
(23:02):
you know, you're joking about the eulogy and all that stuff,
but they're still in first place. But that'd be a
I love Roger, but I mean, if you are going
to deliver a eulogy, please have some notes.
Speaker 8 (23:12):
You'll have Roger'll be ready to go. Is he did
say something about maybe, just maybe. And I don't know
if we talk about this enough because we call him
talented and they are talented, and I think we're living
on some history too, but that they're a talented team,
but in truth, not talented enough to overcome all the injuries.
I think that that's become apparent. While we the credit
(23:35):
for a dude to get to the in truth, they
have zero business with all these injuries, in truth, which
is a credit to them. And I'm the well, I'm
a glass house full guy. I'm also a realist. It's
a it is a what miracles the wrong word to use,
but it's quite amazing that they're sitting in first place.
Speaker 6 (23:53):
Regardless.
Speaker 8 (23:54):
You take out the fact that you remove yourself and
say you live somewhere else, you're just watching baseball, and
I showed you everything that went on, you'd say they're
what the hell out of here, right, because we didn't.
If you remember in spring training, they weren't. They weren't
the overwhelming favorite by any prognosticator to win the division.
Speaker 6 (24:13):
That they weren't.
Speaker 8 (24:14):
They were a wild card people most people who had
Seattle and a lot of people had Texas. I had
Texas win in the division and Seattle, and I think
I had three teams making the playoffs in the division.
I can't remember. We'd have to go back and look
at our picks. But that is so in truth, they
may have overachieved at times. Well I know they've over
achieved in certain situations, and it's certain individuals this year,
(24:34):
no doubt so that they're there in first place. But
the truth of the matter is we were questioning how
good they were going to be with losing Bregman and
losing Tucker anyway, then they've had all these injuries. Jordan's
out for damn near what over one hundred days, hundred games,
whatever it was, and you know the ups and.
Speaker 6 (24:52):
Downs of it.
Speaker 8 (24:53):
Korea wasn't here till the midway point of the season,
So you start to look at and say, in truth,
what do you expect. I'm not saying they're done they
go on a roll, maybe, but how long a roll
they can go on. They haven't proven they can sustain
hitting for any extended amount of time. So, in truth, Roger,
at some point, maybe, you know, we get caught up
in a could see astros. But who of us, who's
(25:15):
going to be talent enough to overcome this all year long?
I understand in short stints, but it's just one after
the other after the other after the other. At some
point in time, you're ross. Hell, even a Dodgers roster
that's expensive. Look at them, they've had their ups and downs,
so they're questioning their lineup. Man, they had to get
rid of this guy and bring this guy. I mean,
they've been through it and everybody thought they were the
(25:36):
people had them winning one hundred and fifteen games this year,
one hundred and ten games this year. Well they're going
to waltz their way to one hundred and five hundred
and eight wins this year with a yawner. Well they're
in quite a battle of them damnselves in the National League.
So in truth, Rogers, honestly due at some point in time,
maybe just maybe they aren't talented enough to overcome all
(25:58):
these injuries. We just want them to be and there
is a difference there. There there's a difference so well
the most listen, what's more amazing the fact that they
haven't hit much this year with runners in the scoring position,
it's like you feel like you keep repeating it, or
the fact that they've overcome all these injuries and are
still in first place one hundred and forty seven games in.
You can make the argument for both, Let's just put
(26:20):
it that way.
Speaker 6 (26:21):
You definitely could, but I think I would lean to
the ladder and that's the way that they've been playing lately. Billy,
we'll get you involved in the conversation. I promise you
we will, Billy, sure as you're born, Sure as Sean is.
Sure's the twenty dollars I gave him this morning, all
of those things it is that Sean Saliser show gave
me or owed me you. Yeah, but I mean repeat,
(26:42):
semantics must be that chair because Wex is mister semantics,
So it must just be that chair.
Speaker 8 (26:48):
It What do you guys call Wex? What do you
guys gotta do? He's a grinder?
Speaker 6 (26:53):
Now, Yes, Gruden would be proud of Wex. I love
how much of a grinder he is good love. He's
the best love. He really is. He really is. He's
one of a kind and he's ours, so don't touch him.

We're val The Sean Salisbury Show continued.
Speaker 8 (29:54):
Fight Song Friday, Sean Salisbury Show, Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 6 (29:57):
I'm being told that this version glory glory is glory glory.
See you as in the Colorado Buffalo's the team that's
coming into town. Which it's funny. I think it was
a fan account yesterday that was over at TDECU Stadium.
They did a video kind of spanning the field. This
show we call it to Deku, we call it to Decu.
(30:20):
So they are over at to Decu and they're spanning
the field, you know, with a video and saying in
enemy territory and a Koog fan account responded, goes enemy territory.
Speaker 8 (30:30):
It's the first time you've ever played them. The hell
you mean enemy territory.
Speaker 6 (30:33):
Just get ready to take the l and have Willie
Fritz go to three and oh so I like that
from uh fans. By the way, that game is gonna
be over on KPRC nine to fifty tonight so you
can listen to that. Stros back in action against the
Braves after losing two out of three, which in this
case you did the Hall of Notes song the other day,
two out of three ain't bad. Well, two out of
three was bad because it went against you, and then
(30:54):
the Mariners won last night. So oh yeah, hey, guess what.
Now you're tied for first with Seattle. You're eleven games
of five hundred and you have fifteen games left to go.
You get the plan there, I have a run. I
love this man, a little organized chaos. Let's go. I
love this stuff. Did What did the joker tell Harvey Dent?
I don't know, the best thing about chaos is that
it's fair.
Speaker 8 (31:14):
Yeah, deal and chaos man, and that kind of what
it is. Don't everybody isn't Don't we hear the phrase
all the time. Get comfortable being uncomfortable. Yeah, here you are.
You are in it. So there you go.
Speaker 9 (31:26):
Man.
Speaker 8 (31:27):
And by the way, Colorado Rockies, I mean the Colorado Avalanche,
I mean the Colorado Buffalos.
Speaker 6 (31:32):
Fine, finally got there.
Speaker 8 (31:34):
Yeah, they why the hype? Dion He ain't playing a
snap and they're not that good. But that's that's the end.
They're starting a new quarterback. That's that's that's the answer.
And it was kind of rhetorical. I mean, I hear it,
and my guy Lamont on social media was talking. He
sent a message that was saw it included with Jeremy
Brann I'm talking about it.
Speaker 6 (31:56):
I mean, he sent it to Jeremy Brown.
Speaker 8 (31:58):
They must have called, you know, because Jeremy's affiliation with
U H in the restaurant, right and uh. And he
said that, man, the hypes around me. It's great that
they're going to be energy in the building. Some mist
understand me. But Travis Hunter and Shreder Sanders ain't playing
for this team. Well, I want everybody to go. But
I and I said the same thing. I said, there's
(32:19):
one reason why they're so. If Colorado Buffalo's were coached
by Harry Hatchett ass you'd just be waiting for they
just be coming here to take an ass. With Mike
McIntyre there, that they'd be coming here to just get
there their ass handed to them, and you beat them.
It's amazing, though, that Dion won't play one snap tonight
(32:40):
and the crowd's there just to see him. I mean,
that's what I mean. Think about that. I want you
to think of it. He's not gonna take one snap
tonight and walk him down sidelines. Travis Hunter's not on
that team. And and I understand it's a football game.
We all like to go, want to go to I'm
talking about don't go there. I'm talking about the games awesome.
But the fact that if this was a call, if
(33:01):
Deon Sanders is not the head coach, nobody we wouldn't
give Colorado to to two seconds of conversation in this one.
Speaker 6 (33:10):
Kup's are a four and a half point favorite.
Speaker 8 (33:11):
Right, we'd be saying, oh man, you know, Colorado's gotten better.
But that's that's part and parcel. And it's also I
guess a compliment to Dion too, is like this is
an average team at best, and the coach doesn't play.
Now if he is playing corner, they may have a
better chance to win, but he's the coach. And it's
(33:33):
just weird. How you go to a concert Sea Taylor Swift,
but she's singing. I know you're going to concert to
watch the I mean, but there's difference. Deon's not gonna sing.
He's gonna go up down the sidelines and get it going,
but you're you're not gonna play down tonight.
Speaker 6 (33:49):
It's just weird.
Speaker 8 (33:50):
How how how what he's built to the point of like,
oh my gosh, it's Colorado.
Speaker 6 (33:55):
That's a good point, I really is. I mean, I
don't I don't think anybody's ever going to a game
because well, I gotta go, man, because Bill Belichick.
Speaker 9 (34:01):
Is that right?
Speaker 6 (34:01):
You're not going.
Speaker 8 (34:02):
As much as I love him, you're not going to say, man,
I can't wait to see Andy Reid on the sidelines.
Speaker 6 (34:06):
You know, you know, you just look over and see
him and you're like yeah, so you say where else,
and it's like here. It's like okay, oh, Dionce here,
he just walked onto the field. Great, you know, he's
looking sharp, ready to go coaching him up.
Speaker 8 (34:18):
Oh that's right. He's not dropping back to throw or
he doesn't run around and He's not going to defend anybody.
Speaker 6 (34:24):
It's just it's amazing.
Speaker 8 (34:26):
He may very well be the only coach in the
country that because he's the coach, even without Plum talking
about no if you have just let's say you're just
an average team, which they are, that can go to
a stadium as the coach and people walking just to
get just it's Dion. So I got to show up
as if you're going to see something like like Schadur
and Travis are going to show up tonight.
Speaker 6 (34:47):
And play like he's going to magic. Yeah, yeah, right.
Speaker 8 (34:50):
It's it's the strangest thing because David Blaine, man, that
guy needs to take some notes. Listen, they don't warrant
this attention football wise, they don't. They're not that good.
They're not that I'm black.
Speaker 6 (35:02):
I love the I love the energy, and I love
that people.
Speaker 8 (35:04):
Are going and that Dion. You know, the truth is
Deon's bringing energy. I mean it's it's helping a home crowd,
there's no doubt. But we wouldn't give him the second
thought if Deon Sanders wasn't coaching them this year. It
goes to show you what he's done for a program
that five years ago. You didn't even you asked yourself
(35:25):
if you were to what conference lay in Again, that
that's what you were asking yourself five years ago. And
now the dude has changed the entire landscape. Now they're
going to have to go back to winning and find
players that have the Travis Utter Shadura Sanders skill set
in college.
Speaker 9 (35:41):
Right.
Speaker 8 (35:42):
But man, it's like, I mean, you'd think Georgia was
coming to town and you were playing for a spot
in the playoff.
Speaker 6 (35:49):
I gotta go, ma, because I gotta see that visor
on the sideline. I gotta see Kirby.
Speaker 8 (35:53):
Yeah, man, that that that that sweet The dangling twenty
one that he's got cause is awesome diving and crouble,
I mean, and in such an engaging personality, right, But
unfortunately you don't get to stand now. If they were
giving you a sideline pass to stand next to him,
and here is verbiage while the game was going on,
I'd love to hear that how he communicates during a game.
Speaker 6 (36:12):
But it's just amazing.
Speaker 8 (36:14):
Put it this way, the reputation of the program now
because of Dion is far better than the actual performance.
Speaker 6 (36:20):
Absolutely, And it was even that way when Travis Hunter
Instador were there, so they're not. And now it's pretty
much just all don Billy. We'll get you involved. You
want to join, We'll get you involved in the converse.
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven

Salisbury Show, Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (36:41):
This Sean Salisbury Show continues to continue.
Speaker 8 (37:01):
Get those paws up right over there on third ward.
Tonight Koob's taking on Colorado. You can listen to it
over on KPRC nine point fifty here on Sports Talk
seventy ninety off the Stros in the Braves.
Speaker 6 (37:14):
They're in Atlanta as the Astros lose two a three.
It's the Blue Jays in Toronto and now they are
tied with the Mariners and the Rangers, only two games
back of both of them. So still lurking in the background,
but getting to you on the phone lines.
Speaker 13 (37:29):
Now.
Speaker 6 (37:29):
It's seven one three two one two five seven ninety Billy,
what's the way end?
Speaker 14 (37:33):
Good morning, Billy, Hey, Good morning guys.
Speaker 15 (37:36):
Dan.
Speaker 14 (37:37):
I'm with you. I'm frustrated, I'm angry, but I'm starting
to see something that actually happened to me. And back
in nineteen eighty three, played baseball, and I just happened
to play with Woody Williams. We had we needed a game,
and wit he throws a two hitter. We got one
hit and he lost one nothing. We don't go to
(37:58):
the playoffs, but was because of our approach of the plate.
We're just squeezing the crap out of the handle of
the bats. I mean we're it's aluminum bats, but I
swear we're crushing the aluminum the bats. And I'm watching
the Astros just make little piles of sawdust in the
batter's box and you can sell you want about While
they're professionals, they're getting paid to do this, they shouldn't
(38:20):
do they shouldn't be that way, but they're human beings,
and these guys are trying too hard, I believe. And
this is where this is not a knock on Joe Spot.
I love Joe. I think Joe's going to be a
great manager. I think he's gonna be a great manager
here for a long time. But this is where we
kind of miss the influence of Dusty Baker. Dusty was
(38:41):
a calming influence when things started going south. Dusty could
get this team calmed down. Great managers always have that
ability to get their team to calm down. And yes,
I blame the hitting coaches a lot and a lot
of that stuff. A lot of that's just out of anger.
The facts are, these guys are human beings. They've been
through a lot this year, a lot. A lot of
(39:03):
them been hurt. They're coming off injuries late, and Joe's
not experienced enough yet to know how to calm this
team down. And for some reason, the veterans, none of
the veterans are really stepping up. Maybe it's because they're
frustrated with their own games. I see Christian Walker leaving
like somebody just kicked his dog after every strikeout or
(39:23):
every ground out, and they're so frustrated. They're swinging hard,
trying to be the hero and save this team. And
that's not what you do. You just do your job,
get on base and move the line. Home runs will come,
you move the line and let the next guy do it.
And that's what this team is always done. But they're
not doing it this year. And maybe it's just pure frustration.
(39:46):
And you know, it's frustrating to me to watch it
as an Astros fan, because I want this team to
win one hundred and sixty two games. Sean knows that,
and I think they can. I know they can't, but
I always think they can. But there's just no calming
influence right now on this team. And you know, sometimes
you've got to take a year and just take your
(40:06):
lumps and go, hey, you know what we're gonna learn
from this. We're gonna be a lot better for it
next year.
Speaker 6 (40:11):
And this whole team.
Speaker 14 (40:12):
Basically minus maybe one or two players from burn a
couple other players, are gonna be back next year. So
I think it's gonna be okay. This year. I still
think they're gonna make the postseason. I think they're gonna
do anything. But I think Joe's gonna learn from this,
and Joe a Spota is gonna be a lot better
for this season for what he learns now in the future.
And that's what I got.
Speaker 6 (40:33):
Thanks guys, Appreciate it, Billy. I mean, I think that
in the calming part of it, I don't think that's
been the problem with Joe. Think in some ways people
are like, dude, you know, you tell us that we
could see some fire, let's see a little bit of it. Well,
let's see you get on it, umpire. Let's see you
get run. Let's let's see a little bit of you
know that guy in there maybe to let you be
(40:54):
you know, let let you know that the frustrations there
not him.
Speaker 8 (40:59):
You know that what happened already, that's not who he
Joe would like to but that's not in his personality.
I don't we're begging for something or you're asking for
something you ain't gonna get. You just won't, you won't.
He's been kicked out since I've been here. What one
game last year did he get? Has he been injected
this year?
Speaker 6 (41:15):
I think he got ejected early in the season. And
that's okay.
Speaker 8 (41:20):
You know, you don't have to encourage somebody's ejection for
them to be a fiery guy. But if you're looking
for that Aaron Boone, he's not okay, And Aaron's the
extreme the other way God, but he is. You're just
not gonna get it. It's like it's like asking an
introvert to be allowed leader. You're not getting it. And
I think Joe's got some I think he's an engaging personality.
(41:41):
I think there's when it comes to what you're looking for,
there's an introverted part of him that just that's not
who he is. That'd be like asking Tony Dungee to
go cuss. He's just just not gonna have He's not
gonna be on scream a cuss. I've never heard him.
It's just not gonna happen. Doesn't mean he can't get results.
It's just if if you're looking at the optics of
that and I get the first because if it was me,
(42:01):
I'd be getting fined probably about every twenty games because
I'd be getting heaved on a ball even if I
if it was close. You know, you get that frustration
whe your team's not going good. You take it out
on the umpire that you know what I'm saying, We
all do, that's what but I and I'm just not.
I'd sit back with that. It's like, come on, you know,
get your little singers in and force him to run you,
(42:22):
you know, because you just can't resist. But it He's
just it's not gonna happen. Man, It's just not we
keep we're looking for something that you're chasing a ghost.
Speaker 6 (42:34):
You're just not gonna He.
Speaker 8 (42:35):
May get ejected, he's not, but I can guarantee if
he's been ejected this year, it wasn't waving the arms
and doing it all. It's just not who he is.
Just like last year his first injection ever, it was
his casual. It was almost like the guy they put
around each other and we're having lunch together and hen
once you go sit down and we're gonna run out. Okay, cool,
And that's just not who was. And I'm not sure
if that makes a difference not, but I think it
(42:56):
would shock the world in his team. It's like, man,
I didn't know Joe had that in him. So regardless
of what it takes, I always believe that things if
you're going with the routine, that when you disrupt a
routine or you know, you want to change something, I
don't think it can be subtle. I don't Now there's
subtle changes in the oh subtle change the mechanics and
a golf swing. But I'm talking about at this stage
(43:17):
of the game, you're not changing. You're not you can't
make wholesale change and do anything. And so what do
you want to do that needle movie? Like what you
know that that wow factor and wow factor may very
well just be somebody who's not used to doing it.
Speaker 6 (43:33):
You know, breaks a gatorade.
Speaker 8 (43:35):
You know, you know what I'm saying, not letting you
get my point right, that feeling that if you're going
to get the shock value and you're just I don't
think Joe's the one that's going.
Speaker 6 (43:44):
To give that to you.
Speaker 8 (43:45):
I just don't be cause if he was, you'd have
already seen it. Because there's been enough frustration, enough mispitches,
and enough poor play by your team at the plate
at times for you to take it out on the
umpire and say, Okay, he missed that one by an inch,
and that's okay. I'm gonna let him have it and
get run. You're not gonna see that man. That's not
who he is.
Speaker 6 (44:03):
It's too bad. It's just not who he is. It's
really too bad. You wish you would see it, but
you also wish that you would see this guy get going.
But I'm really starting to wonder can he We'll talk
about it right here. It is the Sean Salisbury Show,
getting into the seven o'clock hour here on a fight
song Friday Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 8 (44:22):
I am a dip guy, you say, Sean will kind
of well, I can tell you what kind of dip
Daisy French onion dip and the daisy ranch dip. Now
I am, I'm like the finger food appetizer chips, you know,
throw a fredo in their chips to get the dips.
Sometimes to the point on college game day or during
Saturday and studies get up put the spread. It always
(44:44):
has the daisy French onion dip or the daisy ranch tip.
Speaker 6 (44:46):
Was in the local grocery store over the weekend picking
it up, and why because well, the other food's fine
and dandy later in the day, but in order to
get you through. And don't you do it on holidays too.
You do it on Labor Day, you do it on holidays.
Speaker 8 (44:58):
You do it sports and it's four season. This is
this is daisy French onion dip and ranch dip time
a year, right, and now it comes out with this
delicious French onion dip. As an obsession of mine. They
are delicious as homemade dip. You can add whatever you
want to be. You won't need to because they got
the real rbs and spices and the other ingredients you'd
find in your own kitchen.
Speaker 6 (45:18):
But they're doing it for you.
Speaker 8 (45:19):
Pop on into your local grocery store and find out
what I already know and have known, and I'm grateful
to be part of this where I get to well
spend my college football Saturday and Sundays or any other
day of the week doing what really is the strength
of a meal, my chips and dips, and it's Daisy
French onion dip and Daisy ranch dip. I can go
(45:40):
to myfrigerator and take a picture.
Speaker 6 (45:42):
You'll see it.
Speaker 8 (45:42):
Now, visualize it, and then go out and do it.
Get to your local grocery store and look for Daisy
French onion dip at a grocery store near you.
Speaker 16 (45:52):
Houston, an iHeart radio station, The Rocket says Sports Talk.
Speaker 5 (46:01):
Seven ninety your home for your home.
Speaker 17 (46:03):
Teams from the Parsons that match.
Speaker 2 (46:06):
Next studios say.
Speaker 5 (46:16):
Did okay, let's do this.
Speaker 2 (46:18):
Sean Salisbury to usc Troves, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury, Dan Matthewscus,
this is the Sewan Salisbury Show.
Speaker 6 (46:33):
Astros lose to the Blue Jays yesterday in Toronto six nothing.
They dropped two out of three in that series. The
Mariners walk it off in extras last night against the Angels,
so that means they're tied with the Stros in the West.
The Rangers only two games back, and you've h gonna
take on Colorado tonight over at TODCU to DECU Stadium,
(46:54):
TDCU Stadium as they will be over on KPRC nine
fifty for that one. But the Astros still a topic
conversation for us, And if you want to join us
talking some strows. I know the frustration is still boiling
up inside you. Well let it, let it flow over,
let it let it boil over with us, and just
make sure we don't get burned. But maybe if you
(47:16):
want to be able to blow off said steam, you
can do it. Seve one three two one two five
seven ninety against seven one three two one two five
seven ninety And Sean, the guy that I'm really getting
concerned just cannot get out of this is We've seen
slumps out of jose Al twov in the past. I
don't think we've ever seen it as pronounced as it
is right now, because even in the month of August,
(47:38):
after hitting it three sixty three in July he hit
two thirty one, and now in this month thirty seven
at bats, four hits, he's hitting one oh eight with
a one ninety five on base percentage.
Speaker 8 (47:55):
We don't ever want to hear this because he's one
of my favorite sports people of all time. Just what he's,
what he's about, and how good he's been. If Jose
al to A wasn't his last name wasn't al too
with his past performance, if he was just an ever
a player that was a starter, he wouldn't be starting.
He would he would he would be platooning. Now you
(48:15):
would have replaced him. I'm serious, take out. If it
just just his name's Dan Jones. Well, just because I'm
staring at you and looking at you, I'm looking into
your eyes. They are they are quite charming and endearing.
I've been told that before. I mean, yeah, I'm staring
into your eyes and just telling you. Why has it
(48:37):
got to be Dan? Look, I've stayed the course here,
I'm focused on.
Speaker 6 (48:43):
I'm sorry. I'm sorry, Please continue.
Speaker 8 (48:45):
So Dan uh Dan Jones, second baseman hitting one eight. Yeah,
I just think we should sit him down. Yep, sit
him down.
Speaker 12 (48:57):
Oh.
Speaker 6 (48:57):
I I think if it were you know, just a
run of the mill, a jag, just another guy, they'd
be deafade and then clear waivers and Dan would be
in Triple A with the Space Cowboys.
Speaker 8 (49:10):
If it wasn't the history and know who the guy
is and what he can when he turns around, can
load him up and go in bunch a streat hitter.
But he's on the wrong side of this one right
now and it is a slump that we're not used
to sing. But because of who he is, you keep
him in there and you're not he's going to play.
He just is going to play because you're waiting for
(49:31):
that time. Whether it's coming or not this year, I
don't know, but you're waiting for that time. But again,
if there wasn't the Josey Altuve reputation for who he's
been in his past, then he's had a good career,
but he just did you know if it was that
guy and he's your starting second basement, but you know
you're saying, Okay, in the next two years, we're going
to replace him because he's getting a little older. If
(49:53):
if that was the case, his history is keeping him
in the lineup and who he is and what we've
seen in the past, because he's a phenomenal player. He's
not playing well now, not swinging the bat. You're not
putting him in for a defensive replacement, because his defensive
you would replace him in certain positions defensively with a
gold glove guy at this stage of his career. Correct,
(50:15):
But because he sows al two eight and I agree,
I'm gonna keep running him out. I know it's hard,
and I hate saying that, but I've seen the movie
enough at least some kind of slump, not maybe this
pronounced where he's come out of it.
Speaker 6 (50:28):
And then I'll saden.
Speaker 8 (50:28):
You're saying, just when you doubt him, goes two home runs,
hit seven home runs in the month, and you're like, damn,
and yet he still leads the team in home runs,
which is crazy, but he does. So you're waiting for
that to come out crazy way either, right, because you're saying, well,
he's still after this month and what's going on? He
still leads the team in home runs and so I
love him like like I do, But well, you got
(50:53):
a call like you see it. His performance would land
him at the end of the dugout right now if
he wasn't hose Al TUB that's a simple that's his
or I mean, you wouldn't have waited this long. He'd
be platoning right now if he wasn't Hosel TV with
the performance that you've seen.
Speaker 6 (51:09):
It's just sad to say that we're seeing the decline
in real time. It sucks to say that. And I
just gave you the August and September numbers. I mean,
I understand that people say, you know, numbers don't tell
the whole story. They're telling a pretty big story right now,
and especially to you see some of these at bats
like he had no chance yesterday. Zero whole lot.
Speaker 8 (51:32):
Of guys had no shot yesterday. But I know what
you're saying. I hear exactly what you're saying. But I
also know that and listen, maybe premature to say, well,
but at some point in time, whether it's now or
next year the reality or two years from now, whatever
the reality is, father time doesn't play, dude, he just doesn't.
(51:55):
And it's and it's always a bummer for us to
see our favorite players start to start to start performing,
start to fall off. Least I've seen it see with teammates.
I've seen it with guys that are in the Hall
of Fame that were my teammates. I've watched it with
our own, with our own selves, whether your Hall of
Fame or now. You start to see, man, I just
(52:16):
don't quite it takes a little more to get up
for a day and get for a game. It happens
to everybody, and amazing to think about this being in
a job where you're most jobs, you're just getting started
in life, in your career in pro football and play
baseball and basketball. Thirty three in a down year, year old,
(52:39):
thirty four in a down year, back to back the
sub part of years, and it's like you become a journeyman.
Speaker 6 (52:45):
The tread is off the time.
Speaker 8 (52:47):
Yeah, yeah, you're just running on some fumes even though
you may not be. But think about that at thirty five, dude,
one bad year in a cycle. Yeah, going the wrong headed,
the wrong way.
Speaker 6 (52:57):
That's out. That's it.
Speaker 8 (52:59):
Now you say, will be tapping Brady and Moon and
those ys. Yeah, well Brady and Moon are different, okay.
And it's a bummer because we see it when emmittts
Smith's a step slow, when Jerry Rice is the fourth receiver.
Speaker 6 (53:12):
King Griffey Junior starts hitting Ritchie j. D Hing the kid,
And not only that, but also when you get any
morese hatbacks anymore. These Hall of.
Speaker 8 (53:20):
Famers that play on the on three or four teams
in three or four years at the end of their career, right,
so it's I don't know if that's the case, and
you mentioned you can see it decline right before our eyes.
I don't know if this is the decline, and unfortunately
sometimes it happens pretty rapid.
Speaker 6 (53:37):
I hope it's not.
Speaker 8 (53:37):
I hope it's premature because he's you know, he's still capable.
We've seen it with twenty four home runs this year.
But it is going to hit and it's it's a
hell Toronto saw it hit Springer the last couple of years.
Now this year he's played better baseball. But you remember
this last season, they're talking about replacing him, finding finding
the guy to replace him. I mean there was talk
(53:59):
do you move him and move and you know he's
a part of their their resurgence this year. But it's tough, man,
and I don't know if it's happening, But you would
not see him if it wasn't Josel too very he
would be he would be you would be starting a
younger player and staying the transitions here.
Speaker 6 (54:15):
Now, I hope that it's not.
Speaker 8 (54:17):
But the fact that he's over at Josel Josey gives
you the benefit of the doubt. For and fair reasons
because if he does come out of it, which he's
done before, but a slump this big, this long, I
don't know if we've seen that. I don't think I've
seen it seven here, I've seen him, but he's usually
been able to work his way out of it, and
(54:37):
the questions will start.
Speaker 6 (54:39):
To ask, as you know, when it gets to this point.
It always is.
Speaker 8 (54:43):
But eventually it's going to happen anyway, but it's gonna
suck because it's like it feels like it's happening to you,
because everybody feels so close to the gume.
Speaker 6 (54:52):
Oh, I mean, we've all rallied around this guy, especially
where he's been the poster child for twenty seventeen. And
even though it's been documented numerous times that he did
not benefit and he also didn't help himself. He could
have very easily said yeah, I didn't take part in it,
but he declined to do it and won't talk about it.
The only time you ever heard being a good teammate,
that's it. I mean, the only time you ever really
(55:13):
did it is you said, hey, look, you know, if
if we all did it, we all did it. That's
a good part of the team.
Speaker 8 (55:19):
That's why he's a great teammate and why you're going
to keep leaning on him. It's jose Al Tuv. You're
not why they fight for him and they will continue
to and I allow him to fight for himself as
the rest of the season goes on. And I couldn't
root for anybody more to come out of this. And
the truth is, if he doesn't come out of it,
this team's gonna have a hard time winning just because
he is.
Speaker 6 (55:37):
His energy is just different for him. I think that's
what it is. I think that it's more just you
want to see him be successful again because we love
him so much. Is it just it hurts us to
him go through this. Let me ask you this.
Speaker 8 (55:51):
If Josel Tuve was that never played here but did
what he did in another city and you're saying, and man,
I've admired him and he's playing in Pittsburgh and you
start to see his performance, No, what wouldn't you be saying?
Speaker 6 (56:02):
Because he wasn't ours? I know, but would you know?
Speaker 8 (56:04):
My point is wouldn't you be saying if you watch
him a distance, he's not the same player. That's what
I'm saying. It's the emotional tie that keeps, and I
get it. We all have it to anybody that's our favorite.
We've all had five, six ten players that are emotional.
I say, no, no, no, no, no, you can't. Your
game can't be falling You're not retiring. Your game can't
be falling off.
Speaker 10 (56:24):
There.
Speaker 8 (56:24):
You know, you're, you're, you're Jose al Tuve, you can
what there's no way, no one, Ryan, No, no, you're
still throwing a hundred. Randy Johnson, what what do you mean?
Speaker 1 (56:33):
Dude?
Speaker 6 (56:34):
You've got you so does all these signment.
Speaker 8 (56:36):
You're not done, you're, you're, you're, you're, well, you're not
thrown at ninety eight anymore. You're one hundred and three,
you're throwing at ninety five ninety six. But well, what damn,
I'm gonna You're not retired. That's and But if he
was playing somewhere else, everybody, if you're a baseball analyst,
you'd say, or a fan that's watched every day, you'd say,
this game's falling off some That's the emotional tie is
(56:58):
what if it was if it was, like I said,
some minor leaguer came up, played five years and was
your starting second basement going through this, we would all
say you got to make a change.
Speaker 6 (57:06):
With that position. Now I'm doldrums Dan.
Speaker 8 (57:09):
But you can't because I hold on to the fact
that jose al Tuova's history is gonna come out of this.
And maybe it's just because of the emotional side, but
I know when he gets going, it's a beautiful sight.
So I got to play him and he's still one
of my nine best dude in truth, he still is.
Speaker 6 (57:24):
You know what's it's a Friday. I think it's got
a bad attitude, but I think it's time for us
to call on the Lord, Father, Son, Holy Spirit. You
don't mock the Lord. I'm not mocking the Lord. Dear Lord.
You can't pray on air, of course I can. You can.
Do you have any prose me? We can? Yeah? Yeah,
(57:46):
Dear Lord, it come to you, and thanksgiving for the
blessings that you've given us and for the great times
that you've given us with jose al Tuove. We just
asked for the next fifteen plus schemes, if you could
just give us that whole al two ve just to
put us through into the postseason this year, for him,
(58:06):
for us, for our sanity, for everything. Lord, we ask
you what the greatest of blessings you've given us. Amen? Amen, Amen, Amen,
Father Son, Holy Spirit. There you go.
Speaker 8 (58:19):
So jose al tve hopefully we've asked for divine intervention.
Speaker 6 (58:23):
That you've asked divine intervention. Ask the Lord.
Speaker 8 (58:27):
Now go read scripture so you can listen to what
the Lord's going to give you. What answer you're gonna
get you. I was gonna say, yeah, it's probably not
gonna be the answer I want.
Speaker 6 (58:33):
But that's okay, that's all right.
Speaker 8 (58:35):
List faith and put your trust in faith in him.
Let him take care of the stand.
Speaker 6 (58:39):
It's in God's hands now it is It is all
right speaking of it being in God's hands? Is it
the will for us to ever find this creature? Lord
hopes and Lord knows that I'm hoping that we can.
We'll discuss that here. This is the Shan Salisbury Show,
Fight Song Friday, Sports Talk seven ninety. Hey you're back.
Speaker 5 (59:03):
This is the Sean Salisbury Show. Get back at it
all right, Sean, What are you hearing out there now?
Speaker 2 (59:13):
The Salisbury Stakeout Salisbury Takeout on the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 6 (59:33):
Sean Salisbury Shows Sports Talk seven. It is the stakeout
Astros lose to the the Blue Jays last night six nothing,
and the afternoon sees them drop two out of three
to the Jays in Toronto. Mariners win last night, so
that means they're tied with the Astros in the West
and the Texans back on the practice field to get
(59:54):
ready for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Monday night. Inside in
RG Stadium, Bigfoot appears to be caught Sean. Apparently a
trail cam while Bigfoot was standing in a creek in
Missouri has captured footage of the creature, and we go
(01:00:15):
to a trail camera in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. I think
that's near Arkansas. I think it is. I think it's
the Ozarks right there in that area, and it caught
a large, dark figure standing in a creek, which the
owner said that believes is Bigfoot. The sighting took place
last month and it was reported within the last few
(01:00:37):
days now. Apparently people in the area have reported hearing
strange howls long before this photo emerged. So if there
is one thing that I am just absolutely in my lifetime,
I'm like, man, I hope we get one. Is I
hope we find the Bigfoot or the Yetti or some
(01:00:57):
other creature that is supposedly out there that has never
actually been documented locked ness. That locked ness would be great.
So you need it Yetty, dude, I got one you
can borrow for the weekend.
Speaker 8 (01:01:07):
Well, I've got a Yetti. I'm good on that, And
I've got plenty of tumblers. I'm good on those.
Speaker 6 (01:01:11):
Oh okay, yeah, all right. I was talking about like
the mythical creature like that is that is out there
talking right, Yeah, but but Bigfoot, like you're gonna need
Yetty to go get Yetty. And I feel like, though,
like if you do catch the Sasquatch, that you do
have to have like the whole you know, big press conference,
all of that officials, and you need to have it
(01:01:33):
in a cage right there, kind of like.
Speaker 8 (01:01:35):
Bill Murray should be there, just like when he did.
When Bill Murray's a reporter going out there telling us
if it's gonna be a long winter or not?
Speaker 6 (01:01:43):
Oh groundhog? Yeah yeah, yeah. I mean if you want
to have Bill Murray, they're cool. I think I think
Bill would enjoy this. Yeah, absolutely, Joe Rogan, he'd love
it too.
Speaker 8 (01:01:53):
But going back to this, so you actually but I'll
tell you what if you found him sasquatch to yourself affair,
hide your beef jerky, and don't antagonize him.
Speaker 6 (01:02:04):
It's gonna say. I mean we learned that from the commercials.
You know, you antagonize Sasquatch doesn't well for you, say,
and sasquatch can he can move too, and he's get
a supper body strike combine freak. Yeah, I can tell you.
They tell you pound for pound, Like Ron McGill, the
Miami Zoo guy that used to go home with LeBatard.
Somebody asked him once, like, you know, it's the strongest
(01:02:24):
animal out there, he said, the orangutang. So the orangutang
can pretty much just so you think can overcome sasquatch
probably maybe? Yeah? Do you live in squat chimpanzees? You
believe in squad? I want to sasquatch?
Speaker 9 (01:02:39):
You do?
Speaker 13 (01:02:39):
I do?
Speaker 6 (01:02:40):
I I really I really really want to. I wish Bigfoot?
What do you think he's about? What about seven to
two probably seven to maybe four. So, I mean, if
anybody's looking for a good post presence.
Speaker 8 (01:02:51):
But with that Bigfoot but with athleticism, you know, does
he does? Does he does?
Speaker 12 (01:02:56):
He does?
Speaker 6 (01:02:57):
He lack the opposable thumb.
Speaker 8 (01:02:58):
No, I'm saying he's so freak show athlete that it's
as if he's got hands and feet.
Speaker 6 (01:03:05):
How crazy would that be? IF's like, you know, you
just hey, let's I want to say hands and feet, Like,
let's see if this let's let's see if the squat,
if the squatch can ball, put him on the block,
bounce the ball in the row, block entry, pass you
a couple of dribbles, drop step and cut down your shoulders,
shoulder shoulder into you to nudge you out of the
way to get to the the cup.
Speaker 8 (01:03:24):
So he's backed into a corner. Do you trying to
be his friend? Or you said I'm just gonna over
up a can and fight squatch on the way out.
Speaker 6 (01:03:30):
No, squat, squatch is gonna be wearing some ten. Really,
you're gonna fight squatch? No, not not ten. This squatch
is gonna be wearing some brass. Really.
Speaker 8 (01:03:40):
Yeah, see you don't try to butt you up. You're
just say, yo, what screw it, I'm going all in.
I'm either go I'm gonna get my shots in before
I'm done. What you're saying, it's the old it's the
old dead or alive. Well, in this case, I'm not
gonna be.
Speaker 6 (01:03:54):
All right. No, it ain't gonna be me all right,
you squat Squatch. You might you might be the nicest
creature there is out there, and and I might have
you fully misunderstood. But I don't want to be the
beef jerky commercial right thrown across the dog on, because
you know, you get thrown across the woods and you
hit a tree. Well, it's not like the commercial where
it's like ow that hurts. I don't think it's ow.
(01:04:14):
I broke my back.
Speaker 8 (01:04:16):
I think Squatch could take you off the bounce. Oh yeah,
I think you can't. May you cross your ass over,
take you off the bounce, and I got a pretty
strong base windmill duck on your ass and probably at
the rim.
Speaker 6 (01:04:27):
Yeah, and then you know, then I'm known as the
guy that got dunked on by sasquatch.
Speaker 8 (01:04:32):
They asked if you know anything about these and you say, well,
these nuts, right, that's the best duck that these nuts duck.
Speaker 6 (01:04:38):
He really I would I would feel like if if
that happens to you, you just you gotta wear it.
Squatch is a power forward in my mind. I think
play but big, but play smaller because he's at Yeah,
I mean, but like you know in tow, I mean
the outside shot is is so prevalent in the game
now that like you got to be.
Speaker 8 (01:04:55):
Going out there the range jump guy. But he's just
so dominant. I'm a little blocked.
Speaker 6 (01:04:58):
I'm a little concerned about old school what squatches.
Speaker 8 (01:05:01):
You know, he's called alone. What there feel is going
to be he's calling alone. He can knock down. The
reason I say that I'm talking about, you know, Malone
was so physical but could still go out and hit
that mid range fifteen footer. I think Sasquatch probably ten
Malone was good enough to take you off the bounce
of somebody who's his size, right, real good with his
back to the basket. I think Squatch can give you that. Yeah,
and then I'm talking about the physical present Alone was
(01:05:23):
just a monster, right.
Speaker 6 (01:05:24):
Well, then then we're gonna get Hack a Squatch because
I mean he could be like Shack, because Shack's problem
why he couldn't really shoot free throws is I mean
his hands were so damn big that the ball was
almost like a tennis ball in his hand.
Speaker 8 (01:05:35):
And Bigfoot could also be could it be bird or
bird not physical enough to be to be bigfoot, you know,
because it could comfort me. He hard, He doesn't, you know,
you're not not overly athleticwise, I think the hick from
French Lick would would be able to be physical enough.
Speaker 6 (01:05:53):
Right, definitely, try right, But sasquatch can't shoot like bird can. Right, No,
a little more back to the basket, like malone, who's
coming in? What's that? Who's coming in? Suck? Yeah? There
you go, Yeah, there you go the three point shooting contest.
That's right. Your buddy tells a good story about Larry
(01:06:14):
Bird is when he gave him a six pack of
beer and it was in one of those disposable styrofoam
coolers from the store. And apparently Bird goes, can I
keep the cooler? And he's like, well, of course, Larry,
Like it's a seven eleven, you know, break open the
second over. But he gets wet for the breaks over
the ice soon soon enough, the plastic latches aren't going
(01:06:37):
to catch on to it, right, Like, yeah, absolutely you can.
That sounds like a bird. I wonder if Bird smoked
some grits when he was playing. I don't know if
you get grits, but I mean, but I mean, I
think I think Larry was a big, bud heavy guy.
Oh yeah, he's so much better than bud light back
in the eighties. That's that's what it was. It was,
but it was but heavy. So you know it's him.
(01:06:57):
So you think Michale Parish, you know, they's all hang
out after games.
Speaker 8 (01:07:01):
McHale has a little bit of Bigfoot look to him,
doesn't He kind of really good around the basket.
Speaker 6 (01:07:06):
Dude, he you see him in person, he seriously does
look like the Frankenstein's Monster and he walks like it too.
Speaker 8 (01:07:13):
And then you get him into playing basketball. Yeah, and
he was so frigging good.
Speaker 6 (01:07:18):
People.
Speaker 8 (01:07:19):
There's a generation that doesn't know how good Kevin McHale
was as a player.
Speaker 6 (01:07:24):
He looks like he's got two by fours that are
like attached to his legs for how he walks. Now,
it's just but yeah, and you start to think about
that team.
Speaker 8 (01:07:33):
But I mean, Kevin McHale talk about an underrated I
mean when he played, he wasn't underrated.
Speaker 6 (01:07:38):
Everbody knew how good he was.
Speaker 8 (01:07:39):
But he was so friggin good down there within like
twelve just maneuver underrated When we talk about to Kevin
McHale could play man.
Speaker 6 (01:07:48):
You know, Sam Malone and the crew. They had him
come in and pour some drinks, right they did. Yeah,
you know, you know the family used in a place
like this in Minnesota. There you go.
Speaker 8 (01:07:59):
Yeah, he's not a hibbing Minnesota guy, is he not
hibbing Minnesota?
Speaker 6 (01:08:03):
I know his dad was a coal miner. I remember
he told us that he was, Like, my dad was
a coal miner. You know, bury the lead. You think
Bigfoot's out there? Oh yeah, okay, And I hope we
find them. I mean, like I said, the previous stop
that I worked at, we used to do shows at
a Cherokee casino up there in western North Carolina in
(01:08:23):
one of the areas you would go through in North Carolina.
Actually it was it was it was in Georgia right
before you got to North Carolina. But they had like
a Bigfoot store, a Bigfoot museum where it had been
at least documented in air quotes encounters with Bigfoot. So
there's got to be multiples because I mean we've seen
it all throughout the country. Well, I'm sure they bang,
(01:08:45):
you know, people get pregnant, but it's just like big love,
Like how how was like all the trail cameras and
everything that are out there that we don't have more
of these. It's the most elusive creature on the planet.
Well we see that.
Speaker 8 (01:08:56):
It's stuff to find somebody in the woods, dude. Yeah,
it takes more than two all right, it takes it
takes time.
Speaker 6 (01:09:03):
It's more time than it should. Maybe, maybe maybe that's
my next lot in life, is that that I'm going
to be kind of like storm chasers. I'll be a
bigfoot chaser.
Speaker 8 (01:09:12):
Just hanging around the woods and chase him down if
you can see if he can spot him.
Speaker 6 (01:09:16):
And then maybe just one.
Speaker 8 (01:09:17):
Day, maybe Helen Hunt goes with you, who knows. Yeah,
it's possibility that could happen.
Speaker 6 (01:09:22):
Yeah, look, just as long as Aunt Meg makes the
steak and eggs like like that one dude, that's the thing.
Somebody posted that on Twitter. They're like, I often think
about this meal and I'm like that meal does look
really good, and you know, it's crazy.
Speaker 8 (01:09:35):
Two of the main actors in that show are great
actress are passed away.
Speaker 6 (01:09:39):
Yeah, Bill Paxton and oh Philip Seymour Hoffman.
Speaker 8 (01:09:44):
One of the one of the great underrated actress of
all time. Philip Seymour Hoffman. He was appreciated last Yes,
oh there's no doubt because he was an otomy and
an Oscar.
Speaker 6 (01:09:52):
Everything he did was acclaimed. You know, my favorite, my
favorite movie with him is one of the best supporting
roles ever is Charlie Wilson's War. Yeah, where he's gust Avocados,
says the the CIA guy.
Speaker 8 (01:10:03):
Who's awesome. But you know, you think about that in
that movie that was so iconic for all of it.
You know that we all love thinking about it.
Speaker 6 (01:10:10):
I'll not even gonna dignify that real spots. Oh yeah,
well you were dignified.
Speaker 8 (01:10:15):
Yeah he was. He was I thought a great actor,
a great character actor. He's pretty awesome. But that movie,
I can't believe that we did. You know, you look
at it, you say, man, both of them should be
still pretty.
Speaker 6 (01:10:26):
Young, Joanne Herring, Are you Christian? Mister Avocados Greek Orthodox?
That's still Christian? Imagine my relief. There you go. What
a movie. Yeah, such such a good movie. My dad's
congressman growing up. Charlie Wilson. All right, let's get into
a little bit of Texans. What do we say, huh?
Because is C. J. Stroud trying to help Nick Kayley.
(01:10:47):
Isn't it supposed to be the other way around? We'll
discuss here. It is Sean Salisbury show Sports SOX seven ninety.
Speaker 8 (01:10:53):
I am a dip guy, you say, Sean will kind
of well, I can tell you what kind of daisy
french onion dip in the daisy ranch dip now I am.
I'm like the finger food appetizer chips, you know, throw
a fredo in their chips to get the dips. Sometimes
to the point, on college game day or during saturdays
and studies get up put the spread. It always has
(01:11:15):
the daisy french onion dip or the daisy ranch tip.
Speaker 6 (01:11:17):
Was in the.
Speaker 8 (01:11:18):
Local grocery store over the weekend picking it up, and
why because well, the other foods fine and dandy later
in the day, but in order to get you through.
And don't you do it on holidays too. You do
it on Labor Day, you do it on holidays. You
do it sports and it's sports season. This is daisy
french onion dip and ranch dip time of year, right
and now it comes out with this delicious french onion dip.
Speaker 6 (01:11:39):
As an obsession of mine. They are delicious as homemade dip.
Speaker 8 (01:11:42):
You can add whatever you want to, but you won't
need to because they got the real irves and spices
and the other ingredients you'd find in your own kitchen.
Speaker 6 (01:11:48):
But they're doing it for you.
Speaker 8 (01:11:49):
Pop on into your local grocery store and find out
what I already know and have known, and am grateful
to be part of this where I get to well
spend my college football Saturday and Sundays or any other
day of the week doing what really is the strength
of a meal, my chips and dips, and it's Daisy
French onion dip and Daisy ranch dip. I can go
(01:12:11):
to my refrigerator and take a picture. You'll see it now,
visualize it, and then go out and do it. Get
to your local grocery store and look for Daisy French
onion dip at a grocery store near you.
Speaker 2 (01:12:23):
The Sean Salisbury Show continued, What's on Friday.
Speaker 6 (01:12:42):
Sean Salisbury Show, Sports Talk seven ninety shows lose to
the Jays six nothing in Toronto. They get two hits.
That's all we got was two hits. Well, I'm not
going to say the other thing that Harry Doyle said,
but Kevin Gosman pitching a complete game, so you get
the Braves this weekend in Atlanta. The Mariners win last
and extras too, so that's you in better news for
(01:13:02):
the Astros because they're tied with Seattle in the West
now and the Texan's going to get back on the
Praxe field to get prepared for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Monday Night inside NRG Stadium. Seven one three two one
two five seven ninety is the number two get in
a little bit of Texans conversation here, Sean is we're
going to have Aaron Wilson for his first weekly visit
(01:13:24):
of the season coming up in about an hour and
a half. As you know, they're back on the practice field.
Still some injuries, Jake Andrews unknown what's going to be
the case with him this weekend, Probably not gonna play
on Monday Night. And then of course Christian Kirk and
Braxton Barrios, it sounds like they're going to be down.
But Nick Kyley one game under his belt, and the
(01:13:46):
team was able to move the football at times despite
the offensive line and only had to settle for three
field goals in that loss. And of course after that performance,
you've got people who are questioning how good is this
guy going to be at plays? Is the offense gonna
look a lot like it did last year? All of
those different things. But what if somebody said that it's
(01:14:07):
up to CJ Stroud to help Nick Kyley And that
exact thing was talked about yesterday when CJ talked with
the media, where we got to help kails out?
Speaker 18 (01:14:15):
Man, I think that's my my biggest thing personally, and
I think for the guys is not getting it's what
player are you gonna call the second?
Speaker 6 (01:14:23):
Fifteen?
Speaker 18 (01:14:24):
Second to twenty five? And we had these problems for years,
you know, so third and fourteen, third and twelve, you
can't live in that, and you we do, our coaches
discourtesy of that when when when? And that's controllable by us.
So I think that's a start, all right.
Speaker 6 (01:14:41):
So that's a start right there. We need to help them.
So then I understand where CJ's going with that, Sean,
because is it a little bit more of the vocal
leadership with his offensive lineman of saying, hey, bruh, you
know the snap count? Yeah, stop false starting, stop, stop
the illegal motion, stop all these other things, because guess
(01:15:03):
who you're hurting us?
Speaker 8 (01:15:04):
Well, Tunsell got a fall start in Washington. I saw
that and it cost him an extra yards and set
a field goal.
Speaker 6 (01:15:10):
Right, So.
Speaker 8 (01:15:12):
Cjy's just saying, number one, what a leader does, and
not to worry about the repercussions of it.
Speaker 6 (01:15:17):
You just can't. He didn't say, he said we.
Speaker 8 (01:15:20):
As long as you include we, there's nothing, so he
can't blame it on a particular player. He's right, though,
and if the truth hurts somebody, they'll get over it.
And it's okay for a coach to stack out and say,
hey man, we got to give it. And he's right
also about even though it's a rookie play call and
we got to give him a chance Nick Cayley to
settle into this like a player.
Speaker 6 (01:15:39):
But I don't know who of.
Speaker 8 (01:15:41):
Us out there can call third and fourteen, third and
fifteen plays on a regular bas think you're going to
get first down.
Speaker 6 (01:15:45):
You can't.
Speaker 8 (01:15:46):
And anybody that sits in the stands or SAIDs certain things,
oh man, he sucks.
Speaker 6 (01:15:49):
It's third and fifteen.
Speaker 8 (01:15:51):
There's nobody going to be successful continue on third and fifteen,
not Andy Reid, not Sean McVay, not.
Speaker 6 (01:15:57):
It won't matter.
Speaker 8 (01:15:58):
It won't Brady and Move and Mahomes aren't Hall of
Fame quarterbacks if they're living in third and fifteen. I
assure you of that. And this team will spend a
lot of time self inflicted airs and penalties. They'll be
scrambling around again trying to get it done in a
division they should be the best team in without hesitation. Now,
injuries are, unfortunately in this city, seem to be adding
(01:16:19):
up with a lot of franchises.
Speaker 6 (01:16:22):
Well when I say a lot two of the three and.
Speaker 8 (01:16:24):
We hope it goes away. They need good players and
that's obvious. But when you have to give yourself a
better chance and penalties and self inflicted airs do not
do that. Nick Cayley will not have success if they
have the same offensive line performance and pre snap penalties
(01:16:45):
and stupid penalties on a football team that they did
last year. If they have them again this year, they
will be in trouble and Nick Kayley, people will be questioning,
oh man, why cann't he do it well? When you're
living in third and eight, third and twelve, second nine's,
third and fifteen defense, will you got minimal shot to
(01:17:07):
be successful as a play caller and as a play.
Speaker 6 (01:17:10):
Executor, you just do.
Speaker 8 (01:17:11):
And so he's right, and it's good because it's time
for instead of you know, telling everybody what they want
to hear, pro athletes also need to hear from the
people who are seeing it in the room, from them,
from their peers. They need to hear it from a teammate,
just like when things are going good, pad on the back.
When things are going bad, pad on the back, or
a kick in the rear, and it's okay. And as
(01:17:31):
a leader, you can't worry about, oh my gosh, what
if they think I'm talking I am talking to you.
That's exactly who I'm talking to. And so that he
can't and he has the hall pass because of the
position he plays and the early career success he's had
now talking about it's one thing, but line it up
and going do it if if they're in third, and
(01:17:51):
if they're third and seven plus on a regular basis
this week, they'll be going too, so they're gonna have
to fix it. It's it's eerily similar. Pitching is defense
in football. This team pitches well and has got him
in first place. Their defense will keep them in every
single game they play this year. The offense will either
(01:18:14):
elevate it or the offense will flounder. And the way
you elevated is by third and four, second two. Once
in a while you're gona bean third and nine, get
eight yards and either go forward at midfield or punt it.
But can't let field flip happen because it's third and
twenty five on back to back penalties. There's very few
(01:18:36):
teams I know that can overcome those kind of things,
and it catches up with you and this team with
injuries and stilted and rookie play caller. You've got to
give him a chance to get and it's got to
be third and six or less. It's got to be
second six, got to be third and two. It can't
be long yards. And he's right. We've been saying on
the show since last year, all year long and this
year that good teams don't beat themselves regularly, and unfortunately,
(01:19:00):
the Texans offense has beat itself quite often in the
last year in a game.
Speaker 6 (01:19:05):
It's been a problem. Al lamont See, you guys want
to get in on the Texans, We'll do that. Seven
one three two one two five seven ninety Again someone
three two one two five seven ninety Sean Salisbury show
here on a fight song Friday, Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (01:19:21):
Sean Salisbury continues on seven ninety.
Speaker 6 (01:19:54):
Sean Salisbury's shoe Sports Talk seven ninety fight Song Friday,
I mean you need more of it. Astros lose in
Toronto to the Blue Jays six nothing. They dropped two
out of three Mariners win last night in extras, so
now that means they're tied with the Stros. College football
this weekend, you got Texas at home against UTEP tomorrow.
Listen to it right here, starting at two. Sports Talk
(01:20:15):
seven to ninety LSU Florida gonna be over on KPRC
nine fifty five thirty in Texas, A and m up
at Notre Dame a night game. Got a couple of
buddies of mine heading up for that, and when they
were when they were booking the trip, I was like,
what are you gonna do? You're gonna go straight to
uh South Bend or are you gonna go to Chicago.
They're like, we're thinking of Chicago. I said yeah, and
they're like, oh, Cubs game. I would venture to say,
(01:20:36):
if you watch that Cubs game today, you're going to
see a lot of maroon and white inside Wrigley Field,
cause it's kind of like, you know, when I went
there years ago, it was all red and black and
some cub fans were like, why why is there Green
Bay Packer logos that are red and black. I was like,
that's not the Green Bay Packers. Yeah, so it's been
(01:20:57):
Friday there. Then you drive on over to South Bend
right time. If you're a college football fan, I recommended
Al on the south side. What's the way in al?
What's going on?
Speaker 15 (01:21:06):
Hey, what's going on? Guys?
Speaker 6 (01:21:08):
Hapa faded.
Speaker 15 (01:21:10):
I think we got I think we got a problem.
Speaker 9 (01:21:12):
Sean.
Speaker 15 (01:21:14):
Uh.
Speaker 19 (01:21:15):
I like what c J.
Speaker 15 (01:21:16):
Shah said.
Speaker 19 (01:21:17):
Sean, you alluded to it being a leadership and I
kind of mentioned that about Jamiko O'Ryan last year, the
game management and the clock and all that. I was
looking at the game last night, how uh you know,
I was thinking about this.
Speaker 9 (01:21:31):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (01:21:32):
We could have had.
Speaker 19 (01:21:33):
Jacobs or the Boy and Derrick Henry and Baltimore, but
we choose Nixon. I understand what we had Sako on Barkay.
It was a lot in between with his choosing or whatever.
And I just think about how they had Jacobs in
the game at the end and the last fourth quarter,
(01:21:54):
maybe come out and get a rest, but the boatloaders
on him. That's what I was expecting from uh, the
guy playing Nick Chubb. He should have been in that
game at least twenty plus carriage. He was probably on
the consistent player on the field, and we went so
deep on running backs.
Speaker 15 (01:22:09):
What our take out of c. J.
Speaker 19 (01:22:11):
Stroudy is then he was calling out the talent, basically
the guys. But you know, if you ain't got the
right guys, you can't put two paces back into two.
It's just not gonna work. And we'll give him a
chance to two three week or whatever. We'll find out.
But me just looking at hindsight, then I don't think
them the guys because Demiko Ryan went out and got
(01:22:34):
the guy from philidf you, uh, the pro bowler, I believe.
I wish I wish you would have went got an
offensive lineman. You know, Chicago did good. I think we
was after one over there in the coach. I'm not sure,
but we should have went and got some line and
(01:22:56):
proving guys. We went and got Cam Robinson. I don't
think that was we can question that, but I think
Nick Caserio we going all the way around the problem. Again,
we trusted them draft picks with a rookie that in
line is basically the same guys, and they did pretty
good and on training, But when it comes to evaluating
this line in town, I think they really failed with
(01:23:19):
a poor job because these guys don't have no carnity,
none of that. And the season is here, Dan, and
for you to fix that offensive line, Sean, you know
that these guys got to be a unit. They got
to understand the count, the play, the changing of the
player and all that and protect this dude. And c
J strap him being a rookie, I mean a third
year in the league, he's still getting sacked like two
(01:23:42):
years ago, and he mentioned this problem been here.
Speaker 10 (01:23:45):
This problem has been like.
Speaker 19 (01:23:46):
This for the ole since we had the Texas. I
don't understand how they never addressed the offensive line like
you would in the LA Chargers.
Speaker 15 (01:23:57):
They got some guys.
Speaker 19 (01:23:58):
You had some guys from the See come over to
the air see some proven linemens. Yeah, a little money,
but you had money because you went and got some
other players.
Speaker 20 (01:24:07):
I think you.
Speaker 19 (01:24:07):
Lean too much on the defense too much. This line
is how priority with me. I don't understand it, but
I know what it is, and this coordinated thing, like
you said, Sean, I would have got a proven guy
because a guy never called plays he and you got
a guy with the offense coordinator that first year. How
would you fix that line? You could say, yeah, they knew,
(01:24:30):
But when you knew like that, you gotta build. Texions
was made to win now, and these guys got to
have bumps and bruises. And when you do that, you
send your team back because you got to build. First year,
he got to get experienced and all that. So that's
a whole year. These guys got to get out of
their being used to call and plays guys in position.
Speaker 15 (01:24:48):
So you know, I just I'm riding with it.
Speaker 6 (01:24:51):
That's all of that guy, all right, appreciate it. Al.
You guys used to have the shock lock, didn't you?
You and Lima didn't didn't y all every once in
a while, Institute of shot clock we did, all right.
I got a good idea based off what I yelled
at Roger last week, Tripoli, if you could ever just
(01:25:12):
find like an airplane landing sound and just play it,
it's kind of like a signal of Hey, that's that's
your Oscars music, right, there wrap the speech, let's get
it off. But no, we do appreciate you, al we
kid because we care. But at the same time, there's
there's a lot to chew on there and one thing
he did mention with the offensive line. I got a
(01:25:33):
theory on that. We'll talk about it here as we
get into the eight o'clock hour. It is a Friday
edition of The Sean Salisbury Show. Lamont John, We'll get
you involved to seven one three, two, one two five
seven ninety as we continue here, Fight Song Friday, kbm.

Speaker 2 (01:26:19):
Dan matthewsues, this is the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 6 (01:26:28):
Trows dropped two out of three to the Blue Jays
in Toronto, losing yesterday afternoon six nothing. The Mariners walk
it off in twelve against the Angels, so that means
they're tied with the Stros and you have h Colorado

KPRC nine fifty. Don't forget too, as the Kougs take

CU over at td e CU Stadium. Sub one three
(01:27:34):
two one, two five seven ninety is the number Lamont
and most city he wants to weigh in. Good morning,
Lamont a good Man.
Speaker 20 (01:27:45):
Yeah, I want to talk about the takes and the
Miko Ryan when I'm fucking this comment, I'm not speaking
in absolute UH and I know style plus means absolutely
nothing inside of a professional uh football being said, I've
been I.
Speaker 12 (01:28:02):
Picked up on this last last year.
Speaker 20 (01:28:04):
I was like, why does every game but why does
this seem like every game but the Texas comes down
to the wourth quarter like he taking out a blood
pressure up twenty ninches or something. It feels like that
every single game.
Speaker 8 (01:28:18):
It didn't hit me.
Speaker 20 (01:28:19):
Demico Ryans he has this like bid don't break mentality.
Quarters one through three. He's very conservative quarters one through three,
and then in the fourth quarter he wants to turn up.
I'll give you a prime example, and I'm just not
talking about the Rams game, but that Rams game was
telegraph exactly how Demico Ryans wanted it to go. That
(01:28:41):
that that's his plan.
Speaker 15 (01:28:43):
I'm like, if.
Speaker 20 (01:28:43):
Demico Brians complete the pedals to the medal quarters one
through three, maybe maybe we could get some a different
outcomes because because all this way to the fourth quarter
to you know, do magic because of the here is
silly to me.
Speaker 6 (01:29:01):
Here's the funny part.
Speaker 20 (01:29:02):
If the Texas would have won the game. Most of
the bands would have forgotten every all of the myth
ups that they had doing their game. It'll be like
we just wing again. Like I said, you know, a
W is a W man. But I think that Dimico
Ryans needs to be be more aggressive quarters one through three.
And I'm not talking about his defense. I'm talking about
(01:29:23):
more aggressive on the offensive side.
Speaker 10 (01:29:25):
Uh.
Speaker 20 (01:29:26):
Something has to guild, because I mean it's pretty visible
right now and I don't want to be just talking
in circles. And I told you yesterday, son, I got
like you of age going balls to the wall because
Colorado was coming to Houston. Get give me a great man.
Speaker 8 (01:29:41):
And I'm out, all right, appreciate, appreciate it. And uh
I'm listen. I've sat here thinking while Lamont's talking, and
he was exactly right about when we talked about it,
and I referenced him about the fact that it's Dion's
coming to town and otherwise you wouldn't be even given
Colorado a second thought. It's the coach and he's not
(01:30:02):
even gonna play, which I think is sponsored by dude wipes.
Speaker 6 (01:30:05):
There you go.
Speaker 8 (01:30:06):
Well, he I'm sitting here thinking of all Lamont's talking.
They always have themselves in a one score type second
in the in the second half, in the fourth quarter
they do it always takes almost precise, dynamic precision to
win a game at the end of the game for them.
Tell me, I mean, I'm sure it's happened. I'm sending
(01:30:27):
here thinking against a good team or the team, even
the teams they are supposed to hammer. When's the last
time at halftime you said I can switch the TV.
They're kicking their ass the playoffs last year against the Chargers,
That's about it. And it was shocking because the Chargers
we thought were better, right, I mean, at least we're
gonna give it a game.
Speaker 6 (01:30:44):
Yeah, Herbert didn't throw interceptions, and he was throwing them
left and right, right.
Speaker 8 (01:30:48):
I mean, it was it was a but for the
most part, and it's nice, but they do live in
a lot of man now, it's going to require great
aggressiveness in the fourth quarter and it But and Laman,
I'll tell you, I think why you're talking about the
Demico approach because I've seen it a million times now.
Maybe I'm wrong, but just judging from what Lamont's saying,
(01:31:09):
and I agree, and from what I see too. It's
a defensive head coach's mentality. I know that because for
a fact, they want to I know this sounds crazy,
and I know it sounds like you're like a glutton
for punishment. Defensive coordinators don't want to win forty to thirty.
Speaker 6 (01:31:36):
They want to win ten to seven. Oh, I know
that for a fact, thirteen to six. They want to
control the football. They want to slow it down. They
want to run the ball.
Speaker 8 (01:31:45):
They want to body blow you the whole time and
beat you with body blows on the point. They don't
want to knock out. They want to be Now, of
course everybody wants knock you. Get my I'm talking about
In the way they go about a game. They want
to be methodical. They want to not only be methodical,
they want to body blow you because that's also part
of the macho physical s. If I beat you without
a knock you out, I wore you out. And that's
the way the defense, defense and offensive line they kind
(01:32:06):
of tie together. We want to beat run game. Running
back coaches Brian Schottenheimer, Kyle Shannon, they love seventeen to
ten slugfest where they ran it forty times. I'll just
tell you look at the look at the Redskins slide. Well,
the Commanders last night they ran a nineteen times. The
other team ran a thirty or thirty plus times. Guess
who won. So lamon, I'm convinced. And I see this
(01:32:29):
all the time. And you look around. When Ben Johnson
has a lead and they're up thirty one to ten,
you want to know what he's gonna do.
Speaker 6 (01:32:38):
Try to beat you by forty.
Speaker 8 (01:32:40):
When a head coach, that's a defensive head coach, guy
that calls the plays, when they have you up by
three or six at the end, they're going to want
to run the clock out. That's how that's their programmed
to think that way. So they're programmed to just let's
not hurt ourselves. Now, would he like to be up thirty, Well,
of course everybody wants to win fifty because it's easy
(01:33:01):
to coach. But they're programmed like I am. I want
to run and be physical, but I'll damn well tell
you I'm up twenty eight to three. There is no
damn way I'm sitting on the clock. We are attacking
the right way without being an idiot, but I'm not
gonna sit back and let it get to twenty eight
to seventeen because I had two three and outs and
(01:33:22):
punted and then now, oh now we got okay, we
need to score. You play a little more aggressive, throw
a pick six on a tipball interception. Now it's twenty
eight twenty four, and that's where we're at again. I
am convinced one hundred percent that defensive coaches love the
slugfest so much, meaning as the head coach, but that
(01:33:43):
you are you are programmed to win nut cutting close games,
and so you coach not to dominate, and at times
you coach to just protect as opposed to put your
foot on the throat.
Speaker 6 (01:33:57):
Now he may say, Sean, you know I want to
win by thirty five. Of course you do.
Speaker 8 (01:34:01):
But while the defensive, dude, I guarantee there's a history
of I'll bet you now, Dan, Dan Campbell, offensive player,
offensive turns it over to Ben Johnson. They hanged, they
score forty, They Lincoln right. I'm just telling you watch
them college.
Speaker 6 (01:34:21):
They want to win.
Speaker 8 (01:34:23):
Mark Stoops in Kentucky wants to beat you seventeen to ten.
As that he just does well, Nick Saban, you saw
it in LSU. That's how he wants to play but
the only way he changed because he had to in college,
because he just hired the guys. He hired the guys
(01:34:43):
that he knew could beat him Sarkesian, Lane Kiffin. That's
what they do and it still makes them cringe worthy
when they have to do it themselves. Nick Saban did
not like happen to throw forty times and have to
score forty because he thought his team was given up
to twenty seven. That is, he absolutely does not want
(01:35:03):
to think that way. So there is something to Lamont
Lamont's saying whether the numbers back and up or not,
but he's right. It feels like every game, whether they're
playing an ass Tennessee Titan team from the past or
when they're good, or when they're playing a Jacksonville team
that's up and down, or or the Carolina team coming
out of a bye, it just feels like they like
(01:35:25):
to hang around. Here's and that's a defensive coaching. I'm
just telling you, that's a defense that because they're programmed,
how are we going to win in a type game?
Speaker 6 (01:35:35):
And then it's a bonus.
Speaker 8 (01:35:36):
You're up thirty one to three in the middle of
the fourth quarter, Hill, we'll hand it off and get out,
punt and go home. But they're so used to being
in those games that it almost becomes foreign.
Speaker 6 (01:35:48):
To say we're up thirty seven to ten. See my point.
Speaker 8 (01:35:52):
Here's the problem is something to it as an offensive
A defensive minded head coach and an offensive minded head coach.
Speaker 6 (01:35:59):
They think differently. The problem is you have to have
the personnel to be able to do that, and up front,
they don't twenty three do what to be able to
do all those things that you just said. Offensively, to
run the ball the way that Demiko wants to, to
be able to control the game, you need to have that.
And for all the great that Nick Cassario has done,
(01:36:21):
I think he's got a blind spot there. Well, I
think offensive line is one of his blind spots. It
should be their number one priority. Now see, for me,
they told you this offseason it was with the moves,
But for me, were they really that great.
Speaker 8 (01:36:34):
I don't believe you can have success as a team,
sustained success with an average offensive line.
Speaker 6 (01:36:38):
I don't.
Speaker 8 (01:36:39):
I can have sustained success with a great quarterback and
average wide receivers.
Speaker 6 (01:36:42):
I can.
Speaker 8 (01:36:43):
I've seen it. I saw it New England average. They're
not even average they're bad. I'm talking about well, Nico
Collins ain't bad. No, okay, So you're still talking about
their offensive lineah you no, yeah, the wide receivers, but
the offensive line, yes, they've been they've been subpar at
best at times last year and in the opening game,
no doubt. And that may be complimentary. You cannot be
(01:37:04):
great in this You just can't. If you can now,
the only outlier is if you're good upfront, not great,
and you got number fifteen in Kansas City behind you.
But look what happened. As good as he is, best
play caller in the world, best quarterback in the world
the last eight years, who they play in the Super Bowl?
Speaker 6 (01:37:24):
Eagles?
Speaker 8 (01:37:25):
The Eagles, even though they didn't run it well, they
still handed it and got Barkley the ball like twenty
six or twenty seven times, and their defense mauled Kansas City.
Speaker 6 (01:37:33):
They mauled them.
Speaker 8 (01:37:35):
Even the great quarterback, a quarterback and coach couldn't overcome that.
Speaker 9 (01:37:39):
One.
Speaker 8 (01:37:42):
Offensive line has got to be as big a priority
as getting a quarterback was for them here once Watson left,
and until you're going to be in the games that
a lot of us don't want you to be into
a worry. You can't get up and get a beer
because you think, oh my gosh, they're gonna get beat
by a field goal at the end here. And unfortunately,
(01:38:03):
when you live in close games all the time, guess
what happens?
Speaker 6 (01:38:07):
You die by them. Yep.
Speaker 8 (01:38:09):
When you don't have leeway to make a mistake, you
end up making a mistake and it happens, and they're
pronounced when it's a close game because you know you're
one score away from being beat by somebody who should
not beat you. And it's the Rams last week.
Speaker 6 (01:38:23):
Guys.
Speaker 8 (01:38:24):
They're on the road against the Super Bowl team and
a team that was a blink away from being in
the Super Bowl or at least moving on to the
NFC Championship game against Washington last year. The Rams are good,
but it's how it looked. They made the Rams even
look better and they still had a chance to win.
But here's the problem. They didn't. They let it go
(01:38:46):
in the red zone for whatever reason a fall. I
don't care what the reason is. They let it get away.
And that's the difference between great teams and teams that
want to be great and teams that are good. The
Texans are good, they're not great because great teams Philadeli
wins that game, they close it out in that the
Rams are better. The Rams closed it out. That's what
(01:39:06):
you're aspiring to be here. And there's still a step
below that here.
Speaker 6 (01:39:09):
I can count four teams in the AFC that are
better than you right now, and one of them even
had one of their key offensive lineman go down.
Speaker 8 (01:39:16):
In the Chargers, well, dude, there's two in the AFC
North already, maybe a third. The Chargers are better right now.
Denver Broncos may very well be better. Their defense is
nasty as that was being nice. Yeah, oh there's there's
every bit of and we're one game in, but there's
If there's a power ranking in the AFC, the the
the middle of the pack, the Texans aren't in it
(01:39:37):
right now.
Speaker 6 (01:39:38):
Yeah, there's no doubt. That sucks to say. That sucks
to hit the fact though. Yeah, John Andy Biscuit will
get you into the conversation. You want to join them?
Someone three two on two five seven ninety continuing to
roll along here, Sean Salisbury Show Fight Song Friday Sports
Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 5 (01:39:55):
Let the celebration start war.
Speaker 2 (01:39:57):
Sean Salisbury, Sean Salisbury Show, the Ramblin Wreck from Georgia
(01:40:31):
Tech to bring us in here.
Speaker 6 (01:40:32):
They got a good one this weekend too, the eleven
o'clock Hour taking on Clemson, but fight song Friday here
on the Sewn Salisbury Show. I hate college football so much?
Speaker 9 (01:40:43):
All right?
Speaker 6 (01:40:44):
Like you can't even say that with a straight face
and have the audience.
Speaker 8 (01:40:48):
Before Well, I just say why during the break that
you just say, Man, I can't I hate college football.
I wish it was spring training. Why'd you say that?
You know that's not true. They know that's not true.
Everyone knows it's not true. Tripley you heard it, didn't you?
Triple here?
Speaker 6 (01:41:00):
That just made that hurt it. Yeah, I always love that.
I'm a pro guy. No, dude, you give me like
if you actually you don't have to give up one?
What is it?
Speaker 8 (01:41:09):
Oh the pros easily pros? I agree. Yeah, So you
don't hate college football like you said. So it's hyperble.
Speaker 6 (01:41:16):
Close, not even close. It's false hyperbole, but it is
hyperbole nonetheless.
Speaker 8 (01:41:22):
Yes, So it really goes back to the really the
fake news here is me saying that you hated college football.
Speaker 6 (01:41:28):
That's it, Yes, that is what you are fake news.
You're Jim Acosta. Believe that's who you are.
Speaker 8 (01:41:34):
No, don't call me Acosta. That's a that's a you
know you're gonna you're gonna're gonna love Acuations.
Speaker 6 (01:41:39):
That'll get him and you the faith. You come after me,
I come back tenfold.
Speaker 8 (01:41:43):
Yeah, you I just I don't know why if then
I didn't make it personally. I just was repeating what
you said. You said, because that is fake news. Those
words were never uttered out of my mouth. Does you
know that fake news? That's you have fake news? Yeah,
I uh, I'm with you. I take college over pro
any day twice on Sunday. Yeah, you know they don't
play on Sunday. I would just the games. There's so
much more energy, the bands, the crowds, all of it.
Speaker 6 (01:42:06):
What led us to that come? What we would we
would let us to that. Oh that he played the
Georgia Tech fights on And I just said that they're
playing against Clemson as part of a much better college
football weekend because last week it lives up to it.
Speaker 8 (01:42:16):
Yeah, man, that it hasn't lived up to squat yet
neither is the University of Near lost last week. Yeah,
the seats a little bit hot for my guy Billy
and Florida they got played better and not a good
place to get right.
Speaker 6 (01:42:27):
I was gonna say Saturday night and Death Valley is
usually not the place that you want to try to
be able to when you're reeling. Yeah, I would say
that's not a good place against that LSU defense. I
mean it's me.
Speaker 8 (01:42:37):
Similar to like not being able to hit very well
and then going to Toronto, like facing Kevin got Gosman.
Speaker 6 (01:42:42):
Yeah, just like, yes, similar and dropping two out of
three in the series and then only to be compounded
by the Mariners winning last night to tie you for
the AO Wes lead. Yeah. Now you're play in Atlanta
against the Braves. Dan, who's counting? But who's that? We are?
We are, we are, and and everybody else is too.
(01:43:02):
So I'm with you. Yeah, you need you need to
start putting some wins together. And the Texans hoping they
can put a win together on Monday night against the
Bucks inside in RG Stadium. Let's get back to some
of you out there, someone three, two, one, two five
seven ninety John on the northwest side, John, good morning.
Speaker 5 (01:43:18):
Hey, good morning guys.
Speaker 13 (01:43:20):
A couple of comments that CJ. Stroud press conference yesterday
was really a bad look to me. You know, he
you know, he addressed his own performance, of course, but
you know he had some comments like you know, if
you have like takeaways, you know, the desire for more control,
you know, discussing identifying defensive fronts. You know he missed
a few, you know, focus on instinct uh, you know,
(01:43:44):
following Glossanesa trust his instincts more than he Then the
accountability for practice he took responsible for the poor performance and.
Speaker 15 (01:43:52):
All of that.
Speaker 13 (01:43:53):
And then the lolligagging comment. You know, he made blunt
comments about the team lollygagging and going through the motions
and Gardner's significant attention and then you know, just response
to criticism. But all those are bad looks to me,
like really bad looks. You know, I go back, like,
you know again, you know, Sean, I was talking about
this even last year. We should have signed somebody like
(01:44:15):
a Chip Kelly or something. I mean, you wouldn't be
hearing that kind of stuff. I mean chip Kelly's first game,
he writes, you know, he rolls up four hundred yards
are in Vegas, and and there are other you know,
other choices as well, but but there's just you know,
there's you know, hoping that this guy grows into it.
I mean, he's off to a bad start and comments
(01:44:37):
like that.
Speaker 5 (01:44:38):
Just really are a bad look to me.
Speaker 13 (01:44:40):
And I don't know what your feelings are about it.
I just think that, you know, like, what do you
think that, like the Texans would have done if they
had been like in the Viking Shoes playing Chicago, they
wouldn't have done what the Vikings did. I mean the Vikings,
you know, they had a smart they had a smart
coach that that really had a good game plan. They
stuck to running or the Bears defense, and then he
(01:45:01):
can start passing and opening it up and we don't
have any kind of strategy like that. I mean, it's
just really obvious.
Speaker 21 (01:45:08):
It's like last year.
Speaker 13 (01:45:09):
So anyway, it's just.
Speaker 15 (01:45:11):
Curious what you think.
Speaker 6 (01:45:12):
Thanks, Jean, appreciate it, buddy, Sean, I U when you're
giving press conferences and he didn't like the way handled it.
I don't like the way they handle offensively. The continuous
(01:45:33):
problems that they've self inflicted. A lot of these things
are not because now you're planning against you know, a
good opponent, but a lot of the things that go
on are self inflicted. Well, My question is, and along
with what John's saying is we'll go to the press
conference and address them. Are they getting addressed? Isn't this
feel like groundhog data?
Speaker 8 (01:45:52):
You though I do love the fact that and maybe
John disagrees with this part. I'm okay with my leaders
approaching it and talking about it. But the more you
continue to talk about the more we wonder, well, okay,
if you're talking about somebody saying, okay, now we know
the conflict. There's a problem here. But this has been
going on a while. That's why it goes back to
the Groundhog Day from it leaked into this year. And
(01:46:13):
I know it's a new group of players, but we
talk about culture change all the time. The biggest culture
problem they have right now is not somebody off the
field doing something or ownership situation. They've got all that's
settled in. The biggest culture problem they have now is
understanding how to how to put drives together and the
(01:46:33):
culture of jumping off sides if you want to use that,
the structure or whatever they're doing. It feels like that
we've come to expect it. We don't get clean games
from them offensively, and it's a problem. So I understand,
and John, the problem is when you're addressing all those things,
addressing them. Are they addressing them every single day on
(01:46:56):
the practice field. Maybe they are, but the result, because
if they are and they're working on it and it
continues to happen, then it's only a hand either. You're
just they're just not very good and we've overrated them
two coaches, that they're the players check out on coaches,
and that they've then not this soon, but they've they
don't have enough buy in.
Speaker 6 (01:47:17):
That would be two.
Speaker 8 (01:47:18):
And three is that you just can't handle the pressure
of a game. I'm not mentally right.
Speaker 6 (01:47:26):
I don't know. I don't I don't know why.
Speaker 8 (01:47:28):
That's the same time, now, listen, if you just run
to somebody's better than you, they're getting paid, they're going
to make some place. But when you keep beating yourself
and beating yourself up and doing the same things that
we heard Demico approach last year and now that we
talk about CJ. Stroud talking about this year, after one game,
it almost feels like they've hit a desperate button one
game in and it was against a team that's a
Super Bowl contender. So I wouldn't go to pankin yet,
(01:47:50):
but I do have my concern is all right, So
if you do recognize this from last year to this year,
what's not good? Where's the communication? Where's this gap going
on between game and practice? Or are you who you
are in the practice like c J. Stroud said, didn't
practice well? Is that who you are in the game?
And how are a bunch of grown men in the
(01:48:11):
opening game not able to control that part of it?
Speaker 6 (01:48:15):
That's my part right there. That's the discourage to get
beat by good Rams team. But how are a bunch
of grown men that is say, Okay, here's the problem.
We all got to address it.
Speaker 8 (01:48:22):
We may get beat, but it's not gonna be because
I'm off sides four times. It's not gonna be because
I'm not secure in the football when I know I
need to secure the football or i'm my offensive we're
not understanding protections that are just basic that we walk through,
either lost in translation the teaching to the player and
the players processing to the field, or the fact that
(01:48:42):
they're just not that good offensively. And we just got
to bucket up and understand that if CJ. Nico Collins,
Joe Mixing when he's healthy and Shubb, don't take care
of their business. You're just gonna be in a fight
every week, and you're gonna lose some against good teams
and bad teams, and you're gonna win some and hopefully
get the plass years. Won't be good enough. Maybe that's it.
Maybe we assume they're good enough and they're just not.
(01:49:04):
Because if you keep telling me you're you're getting to
the bottom of this, and I keep getting the same
Groundhog Day result, not in the wins or losses, but
how you get to them, and a lot of it's
on you as opposed to the opponent. Then then there's
a disconnect somewhere, and that disconnect that that's the conflict
you need to approach.
Speaker 6 (01:49:24):
They're in the grits in the grind sean.
Speaker 8 (01:49:29):
Yeah, well grit and grind got them out in the
second round in the division round last year, right or
was it the yeah they there you go? Yeah, So
I just and so you're trying to think what John
did with with the Lamont said, put all these together
and see, I understand if you're making a different mistake.
(01:49:50):
This team's living with the same problem every week. So
it's either I mean, I don't want to say this,
Are they a dumb i Q football team?
Speaker 6 (01:49:57):
Are they?
Speaker 15 (01:49:58):
Is that?
Speaker 8 (01:49:59):
The next thing we got asking not dumb people. I'm
not saying that. I don't know what their their GPA was,
nor do I care what their SAT scores. But in
football IQ and understanding that football IQ common sense football IQ.
Speaker 6 (01:50:13):
Do are they just not a high football like Q
team on offense? Sometimes you wonder, well what am I?
The question has to be asked.
Speaker 8 (01:50:20):
If you're telling me you're talented, you're telling me you
practice hard, or you're telling me that we get those
things when we didn't.
Speaker 6 (01:50:26):
Have any practice, play hard.
Speaker 8 (01:50:27):
Yeah, yeah, Well if they're not playing hard, then then
then the head coach has to go and everybody else
has to go because I shouldn't have to teach effort.
If guys aren't given effort, it's a reflection on the
fact they just didn't buy in. So if you're not
given effort, take two weeks off, quit and find a
new job. Now I ain't coaching that, but the thing,
and I know Demico's not either, so with it. It's
like if you're making the same mistake over and over
(01:50:49):
again and you're telling me you're addressing it, But you
don't get it addressed, then I can only understand that
maybe you just got a low offensive football IQ.
Speaker 6 (01:50:59):
Is that what it is us prove me wrong?
Speaker 8 (01:51:03):
I mean it's overall I'm talking about just because the
results would would point to that.
Speaker 6 (01:51:08):
You're right.
Speaker 8 (01:51:09):
If I keep giving them the benefit of doubt and
they're taking every step to get better, and you're telling
me we're back to back division winners, we're a talented team.
Speaker 6 (01:51:16):
Okay.
Speaker 8 (01:51:17):
So if you are talented and you've addressed things that
you think short up and elevated your team, and the
same stuff keeps happening to beat you self inflicted offside,
stupid penalties, late to the football, late to the whole,
late to the protection, then I can only suggest it's
one of two things that either you're not very good
(01:51:37):
or your football IQ is less than the other teams.
Speaker 6 (01:51:42):
I think I have an answer in personnel is involved

them for the lead in the Al West. And UH

you asked the question, are they just not good enough?
(01:53:39):
You got John Sean. I'm gonna ask you, John, how
many players on the Texans offense would another team taking start?
Speaker 8 (01:53:49):
The quarterback, the big physical wide receiver, and Joe Mixon
if he's healthy, and then you probably Schultz would be
a backup tight end on a on a team with
a good tight end.
Speaker 6 (01:54:03):
Now that's you.
Speaker 8 (01:54:03):
We're just talking about offensively defense. I could take a
bunch of those cats offensively, I don't think there'd be
I don't if you had a good put it this way,
you send the five guys here to Philly. None of
them are starting on the offensive line in Philly right now.
Speaker 10 (01:54:18):
Uh.
Speaker 8 (01:54:18):
The only Christian Kirk's a good player, but he's not
a number one and he's not healthy.
Speaker 6 (01:54:23):
Collins.
Speaker 8 (01:54:23):
The for sures are Collins and Stroud and Mixing when
he's right. Other than that, you would you would struggle
on offense anywhere to go find a guy who could
start for a good team offensively, in my mind.
Speaker 10 (01:54:37):
And to me.
Speaker 21 (01:54:38):
That's that's problem Number one talent on offense. Now on defense,
I think he probably fould like he's one player away
from and have the defense.
Speaker 15 (01:54:47):
Right.
Speaker 21 (01:54:48):
You probably needed just a Jalen Carter tackle tight Oh.
Speaker 8 (01:54:52):
Yeah, a dominant a dominant game changer, wrecker. Yeah, they
have that on defense, but you know, uh, they have
a bunch of them, but he needs that guy on
a couple of those on offense is what I'm talking about.
Because defense, they got what they need.
Speaker 21 (01:55:05):
Yeah, so expectation level is maybe a little out of way.
Speaker 15 (01:55:09):
Number Number two.
Speaker 21 (01:55:10):
Chando, and this is this is a big one. Every
coach has their own philosophy. Man, If you think Demico
gonna line up and have full people spread out and
they're gonna be throwing the ball around in your ard knock, No,
that's that's not his philosophy. So, yes, he's gonna play
a certain type of weight. Yes, he don't have the
(01:55:32):
person on offense to really execute it the way he
wants to. But guess what, Sean, they was in the game,
and they.
Speaker 8 (01:55:39):
Right there agreed they can still fix it because they
were had a chance to win it. That's the key, Biscuit,
And thanks for the call and enjoy that time. And
I know you and your boys will be out there
having a blast, and I hope you do. You deserve
it is that's the problem too, And I think it
goes along with what Biscuits saying is even when you
get to that point, are you talent enough to close
(01:56:00):
it out? And so they were in it, but they
got to get to the point where they ended up
with the Rams did where the Rams found a way,
they found a way to win it as opposed to
finding a way not to win it. And there is
that and that comes down to talent, uh, being able
to deal with pressure. You know, we call the pup
list the injury list. I call it poison under pressure.
Being able to deal that and then closing it out,
whether it's kicking a field goal at the right time,
(01:56:22):
getting to stop making a catch, not laying the ball
on the ground in the red zone, going into score.
The good teams find a way to not do that,
the real good teams, but they got to be by
the Rams who are real good. They didn't get be
by you know a team that's the Miami Dolphins. Finesse
ass right, So he Biscuits right, And I think that's
the next level he's talking about, is when you get
to that point, can you close it out?
Speaker 6 (01:56:44):
And right now it's a sometime thing. And with the
personnel you've got offensively, that's a huge reason for it.
And we'll continue the conversation. Can't afford injuries at prime positions. Brother,
they have one a running back, they have one couple
of wide receiver, and they're they're real link trying to
find guys that can fill that void. Let's touch on
(01:57:04):
that fight song Friday, Seawan Salisbury Show, Sports Talk seven
ninety's all of.
Speaker 7 (01:57:10):
This high fastball Mice mccaller's JUNI your review is just
an Astros You're listening to Shawn Salisbury on Sports Talk
seven ninety.
Speaker 3 (01:57:17):
Lance McCullers.
Speaker 6 (01:57:18):
How about the performance.
Speaker 7 (01:57:19):
Your home for Houston Astros baseball? Oh or eagle to.
Speaker 6 (01:57:43):
Those who celebrate here on a fight song Friday, Sports
Talk seven ninety as it is triple He just asked
me in my ear how I know that? Come on now, brother,
Tons of college football, tons of sec college football hates
a triple out, especially to I. You know, I always
remember this from the kick six where the band started,
(01:58:06):
you know, playing it, and there was a video that
was out there that was measured up with the radio call,
and I always love with you know, Chris Davis returning
the field goal for the touchdown, and I just loved
the guy in the background.
Speaker 5 (01:58:18):
Oh my god.
Speaker 8 (01:58:20):
I The crazy thing is when the color commentator is
interrupting the play by pa yelling while.
Speaker 6 (01:58:26):
The guy it happens so much like some of these
college football you know, like you know, these guys help
them together for thirty five years, you know, breaks it
off to the right, got got go, let's go yelling,
you know that, Like it's been a conversation of hey man,
let me get through the call. Then I got you.
But then it's kind of to a point where you're
(01:58:47):
just like, hey, look, I give I you know, I
get it.
Speaker 8 (01:58:50):
Can't stop right that they're they're emostly just runs wild
and all broadcast etiquette is out where they're going through
their team making a big play at the end. I
get the end and the emotion. Sometimes always a listener,
if you take it, it's like this is a hard
listen because I can't tell that this guy's going nuts
and play by play guys, oh my god, yes, And
(01:59:10):
he's tried to he's tried to, you know, game exactly
and the play by play guys like, we'll have to
take it away, Matt, go ahead, how lotch you tell
us the rest of it away.
Speaker 6 (01:59:21):
That's right? What a crazy game. But yes, for for
the Auburn ones out there, that was for you here
on a fight song Fridays, the Strows in Atlanta taking
on the Braves. They're trying to win a series after
losing the last three, including yesterday to the Blue Jays
in Toronto. Six nothing. The Texans gonna get the Tampa
Bay Buccaneers on Monday night. We're talking a lot of
(01:59:43):
Texans right now. Seven one three, two one two five,
seven ninety John and Needville, Good morning, John.
Speaker 15 (01:59:49):
Good morning, guys.
Speaker 6 (01:59:50):
Are today good man?
Speaker 15 (01:59:52):
Good Hey, big quick short, simple to y'all, six thirty
seven o'clock.
Speaker 10 (01:59:57):
Tak Yeah.
Speaker 15 (02:00:00):
You see, if like Sean said, if it ain't for
the name on the back of his jersey, down two
V would be shipped out of here. Let's face it.
I mean, I don't know if father time has caught
up or what, but it's horrible to see. Let me
rephrase that, it's bad to see now football Monday, and yes,
(02:00:21):
I know y'all talked about this Monday, but Sean, you'll
remember this lollygaggon. Thank god CJ called him out. Here's
my problem with all this. Why weren't they prepared? Why
didn't Demico these guys came out. If your quarterback sits
(02:00:46):
there and calls out his teammates of lollygagging out of
the we all know it. You practice that way, you're
gonna play that way, period, especially in the sport of football.
They were not prepared physically, they were not prepared mentally.
Now to that point, had and I know this is
(02:01:12):
gonna be bad goes. Has Demiko bitten off more than
he can chew. Some people are not meant to be
a head coach in the league. Some people are not
meant to be a manager in the leagues. Not saying
Dimiko is not a great a good defensive coordinator, but
(02:01:33):
why weren't they ready and why didn't they know?
Speaker 6 (02:01:36):
I know you ain't putting that on me, Sorry, John,
them the rules? Sorry, hey, those are the rules. Demiko
rans has won two straight division titles, and I understand
that last year did not go the way that they
had hoped. In the first game of the season, was disappointing.
But Demiko Ryans is perfectly fine in his job. He's
(02:01:57):
not he's not going anywhere. He's not in trouble any
of those things. There are things that need to be
cleaned up with this team, and some of them are personnel.
And you were talking about it in the last segment
with biscuit of tight end Dalton Schultz would be a
backup on other teams because as far as I'm concerned,
like that play he had on the third down the
(02:02:17):
other day where he tries to leap over the guy.
You're a tight end against a defensive back, put your
shoulder down and go through him and get the first down.
Speaker 8 (02:02:26):
Like seriously, man, say, Jordan Love, give some of that
up last time. I mean he get a first down? Yeah,
like where you're probably yelling through the TV. I know
I was, dude, don't take those hits. But he was
third down, he needed a first down, yeah, and he
was gonna get a first down.
Speaker 9 (02:02:39):
I get it.
Speaker 8 (02:02:39):
Can't take him all the time as a quarterback. Listen,
Domico's not in trouble. I understand John's point of great
defensive coordinator, still working to be a great head coach,
but part of the head coach is getting people to
do stuff they're not used to doing, and that's his neck.
That's the next level of the transition from him to
good to great. And he's only been doing it two years.
(02:03:00):
They have won the division twice. Eventually, it's going to
get to the point because we expect things from him
that winning the division won't be enough. It's not enough
for him. That's a good thing. He self checks, you
can tell, but for him the next level we keep
saying it. It gets to a point where it's like, Okay,
here's where it's stalling. You are the head coach, so
you and he knows this. You there's more accountability on you.
(02:03:22):
Just it's part and parcel the position. So whether it's
coaching the coach to get him more out of the
player or taking your ass over to the offensive side
and saying we're going to do it different. And I'm
not an offensive coach, but I coach defense enough to
stop your offense. And here's how i'd stop your offense.
And here's why it keeps happening. Half the battle is
you guys hurt yourself and we're either going to fix
it or you guys are all going to be at
(02:03:42):
the bus stop looking for a new job without saying
that that's what you have to almost approach it like, well,
you're operating out of fear maybe if that's what it
takes to get a player. Because John, I remember John
tire Lincols. You say, hey, man, the bus leaves at
three o'clock and some of you guys are going to
be on it talking to his defensive lineman or even
the offensive lineman that he was abusing during Pratt not
abusing that way, but whereas defensive line, we're giving them
(02:04:03):
a hell of a time. So we're wearing your ass out.
The bus leaves it three, make sure you're on it.
Everybone wants to fight, right and that's a coach saying it. So,
but that's a little more old school, a little bore.
I mean, guys took a shot to the face a
little bit different then, because the rules, you know, said
you either better take a shot to the face literally
and figuratively, or your sensitive ass better keep it moving.
(02:04:25):
So I think the next step for Demico Ryans and
his team is to get the offense to be aggressive
without you know, beating themselves up. But they've got to
be more disciplined. They are an undisciplined offensive football team,
and that falls directly on the offense. But it falls
directly and it is on the head coach because and
(02:04:46):
it's not because I don't think Demico can do it.
I think he can and will. But in order to
get to where we want to go, the next stage is,
you guys are an undisciplined, beat yourselves offense. And until
it flips, we're either going to find players that can
do it, or I've got to get coaches that can't
teach it, or both, because then eventually, then eventually he's hell,
that's exactly right now.
Speaker 6 (02:05:06):
And that's the pecking order. That's the way it works, man.
That's that's how it goes in this league. All right.
So let's continue the Texans conversation because our good buddy
Aaron Wilson from KPRC too, our own seven ninety Texans Insider,
he's going to join us here for his weekly visit.
But first, it's college football season. And I've been telling
you about these polos because these polos are legit and
(02:05:30):
they are available Kobe Stevens dot Com, Kobe Stevens Apparel,
like for the people who wear purple and gold like
our good buddy Chris Gordy. I mean, I know today
and and yesterday, you know he's working over there in
Baton Rouge. But say tomorrow, he's probably gonna go to
that store right there outside Tiger Stadium, right next to
Mike the Tiger's cage, and he's going to see some
of those prices and go, man. I mean, I like
(02:05:51):
the quality, I like all of this, but for these prices, well,
you're not battling that at Kobe Stevens dot com because
Affordable doesn't even begin to talk talk about these great
college football polos. They've got the purple and gold, they're there.
The maroon and white they are there as well. The
burn orange and white, the red and white for the
cooogs is if you've already ordered some or maybe for
(02:06:12):
a future game, you want to order one for yourself
and be looking good when you head inside td ECU Stadium.
You can do that when you head on over to
Kobe Stevens dot com. Summer line still available. Those summer
temps are out there, and Shawn, I know he's gonna
be out there on the golf course today and as
a matter of fact, he was saying, I need some
breathable gear, and I said, Sean, Kobe Stevens dot com
for great polos, T shirts for after the round, hats,
(02:06:34):
maybe even the cover you up when you're out there
on the course. Some shorts if you want to look
even more fashionable out there and for the ladies and
the youths out there, well, then there you go. You've
got that available at Kobe Stevens dot com, Kobe Stevens
dot com, cob Y Stevens with a VS at the end,
Kobe Stevens dot Com, Kobe Stevens Apparel, kbm.
Speaker 16 (02:06:55):
E Houston, k TDHD two Houston, an iHeart radio station.
Speaker 6 (02:07:00):
Yes as a Rocket.
Speaker 5 (02:07:04):
This is Sports Talk.
Speaker 17 (02:07:05):
Seven ninety your home for your home teams from the
Parsons that Matchine Next Studios, Ol Slisbury Ho did okay,
let's do this.
Speaker 5 (02:07:22):
Sean Salisbury.
Speaker 3 (02:07:25):
To USC Tropes, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 2 (02:07:27):
Dan matthewscuse House. This is the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 6 (02:07:36):
Mariners win, so that means they're tied with the Strows
in the Aos and the Texans. That's what we're going
to talk right now with Aaron Wilson, KPRC two our
own Sports Talks seven ninety Texans Insider. They're going to
take on the Bucks Monday night inside in RG Stadium.
And Aaron, I know you've been on top of the
injury situation. What's it looking like for at least a
(02:07:57):
couple of the receivers and maybe even Jake Andrews from
a night right?
Speaker 9 (02:08:02):
Yeah, Dan, it's not looking good for the receivers, and
today is like the last chance for them to get
back out there. With Christian Kirk, it was a one
to two week hamstring strain and Barrios was supposed to
be back a little bit sooner. So they're many progress,
but they're making plans without them. And then Jake Andrews,
(02:08:24):
I know they call him day to day, but that's
been a description applied to other injuries that were long term.
He has a high ankle sprain and very rarely does
someone come back from a high ankle sprain on a
Sunday and then play the following Monday night. So yeah,
Jared Patterson are all you know, all systems go for
him to be the new starting center and he started
(02:08:45):
before from a Notre dame guy that has I think
he held up, you know, not you know, says Jim
Otto or anything. But he's held up.
Speaker 12 (02:08:54):
When he's planned to play.
Speaker 9 (02:08:56):
He's good with the snap, he's pretty good at diagnosing
the deft. He had a good rapport with TJ. Stroud,
So yeah, I think he can get the job done.
And it wasn't like when he went in the game
against the Rams that there was a big problem. They
actually held up well against Punaford and some of the
interior rushers. They just had a lot of problems, specifically
(02:09:18):
Arianta Ursery with Byron Young about five pressures in that
one bull rush sack. It was rough.
Speaker 12 (02:09:23):
Welcome the NFL.
Speaker 9 (02:09:24):
Moment for day, But yeah, I'd say with injuries, as
you guys know, you know, they're looking at potentially getting
ed Ingram back, and if they do that at right guard,
then they can go back to the configuration they wanted
to have with the exception of Jake Andrews, which you
mean urs or he can go back to playing left tackle,
(02:09:46):
Titus Howard to play right tackle. So that's something we're
monitoring heading it to kick off on Monday night.
Speaker 6 (02:09:52):
Aaron, this team is similar. I know it's Rams.
Speaker 8 (02:09:55):
I know they're good, and they almost had a they
I mean, they had a chance to pull this and
they didn't, which leads me to okay, similar offense. Just
on offense, I'm talking about they beat themselves a lot
last year, self inflicted air stupid penalties. It continued on Monday.
Two things that I'm starting to wonder just as a
carryover since they know the problem. It comes down to
(02:10:16):
me it's one of two things. If they either want
to buy in, but I'm hoping the players buy in,
but one of two things. Either we've overrated them and
they're not as talented offensively as we thought they could
be or should be, or their football IQ just doesn't
get it.
Speaker 6 (02:10:30):
Which one is it?
Speaker 9 (02:10:33):
I would tend to lead on the individual players thinking
about too much and not being able to focus. And
there's only so much you can do as a coach,
you know, I know, you coach and work with a
lot of young people and do a great job. If
they're not responding to the coaching and you're doing everything
right as far as a coach, then you have to
(02:10:54):
wonder how coachable is the young man or you know,
in this case adult know the penalties you see like
Laramie Tunscle, that's the Laramie Tuncle, He's still jumping off side.
The geography changed, the team changed, he didn't change. So really,
I would say there's too much sometimes put on the
(02:11:16):
coach of you know, Will, Why can't you get these
guys to stop? I would say it's on the player.
The player controls not jumping off sides the player. You
know these second and long, third and long situations. I
mean a lot of that is on them. I think
accountability has got to start with the player, and if
they can't get it done, then you put someone else in.
(02:11:36):
That is on the coach if you continue to play
guys that will not fix the errors he's got at
some point have some consequences. And that's every coach you
wrestle with. But he's my best player, which he's your
best player, and he's hurning your cause, then you have
to make a change or you have to think about
when you're drafting these players, you know, what's the penalty
(02:11:58):
situation like? But yeah, sometimes the past doesn't even predict
the future. I mean, you think Lake Fisher had a
bunch of face mask penalties for the Nerdame Irish and
he was an All American No, So I mean sometimes
you are surprised by people's performance or lack thereof at
this level. You know, that's too clinical about it. But ultimately,
(02:12:18):
I mean, if it's on too, you're going on too.
You have to know the snapcamp and you have to
not let anything affect your focus. So yeah, if I was,
you know, thinking about this team and about everything that
goes on, you really got to look in the mirror.
I mean, that's that's the thing. You know, these are
the men in the arenas of the poem.
Speaker 12 (02:12:37):
Goes They have to be accountable.
Speaker 8 (02:12:40):
It's on these guys do the fixing part of it?
How I mean is there Well what's the answer then?
And you talked about each individual doing it? But if
they can't do it and this continues, how blatant and
how I mean, how forceful do you got to be
with this? I mean it getting to a point where
the offense is yeah, yeah, But the question is this,
(02:13:05):
Does this team have that nastiness on offense enough to
say it's either this or this ultimatum type it?
Speaker 6 (02:13:10):
Are there?
Speaker 8 (02:13:10):
And are the players nasty enough on offense to dominate games?
Speaker 9 (02:13:16):
That's a great question. I haven't seen the main streak
on offense that we've ever seen on defense, no one's
ever really said these are gretty tough guys. I've seen
some signs, some encouraging signs with the new retooled offensive line.
I know what Cole Popovich is all about, that about
(02:13:36):
being feisty, and you know he's a Dante's certe kid decipher.
I know he's teaching it the right way. But it
doesn't necessarily all take hold in one offseason. And they've
got basically I would say, five new starters because Titus
Howard is not playing the same position, So five new guys.
You overhauled it completely, and maybe it's too much expected
(02:13:58):
in one game. It's going to look the way it's
going to look in four to six weeks when maybe
people settle into their positions. I think you have to obviously,
you don't want to only go off hope, right Sean.
I mean that's not a great recipe for success, but
you have to be I think a little more patient
than some have been. It was one game, and there
were some things that I think they could hang their
(02:14:20):
hat on. Like we thought Jared Verse was going to
wreck the game, right, That's what most people thought. How
are they going to block this guy, he's gonna have
a beast game. He didn't Byron Young did, and I
don't think they slept on Byron Now. I would just
say some things they did worked, including a running the
ball things to do more of that. They were better
as a run blocking team, especially on those Nick Chubb
(02:14:41):
runs than we had seen at some points last year,
even with Joe mixed in the lineup where Joe's just
run into a stone wall. But I think, you know,
you don't want to throw out the baby with the backlar.
I mean, this is a team that has a lot
of progress they need to make in every area. On offense,
they were missing some guys. I don't think there's any
(02:15:02):
reason to make any excuses. But at some point I
was looking at their bench. They don't have any real depth,
So I mean, there's not much you can do. Let's say,
you know, if Cam Robinson's not starting, Yeah, obviously Kim
could come in for one of those tackles. But I
don't think that's the answer. I mean, they think Gercery
is going to be a good football player. We thought
that in the preseason. He had a bad debut. I
(02:15:25):
think you just got to stick with him and hope
it's going to get better. You got to compete a
coach and attack the problem, but sure penalties.
Speaker 13 (02:15:33):
As C. J.
Speaker 9 (02:15:33):
Stroud said, this is unfair to Nick Cayley for him
to have to call plays with a bunch of second
and twenties again.
Speaker 6 (02:15:40):
Aaron Wilson Sports Talk seven nineties Texans Insider with KPRC two.
Find him on Twitter as well at Aaron Wilson and
Aaron Wilson Underscore NFL. Excuse me is where you can
find him. Nick Cayley's first game, Well, what did you
think of his performance calling plays in that first game?
Speaker 9 (02:16:01):
It was just solid, It was just okay. It wasn't
necessarily this big revelation of okay. Now slows go on.
Everything's gonna click. It takes time. He's a rookie play caller,
so everything's new, including you know, the play caller. And
I think he's got a feel for the game. And
I've talked to a lot of people that know him.
He's very smart. I've talked to Sean mcvayh about him.
(02:16:22):
I've talked to people from the Patriots about him. He's scotted,
but it's going to come out later. I think as
he works more. I like that they have some preestingt
at motion. I like that there's some kind of structure
to the run plays. I think it also his designs
are more tailored to the kind of lineman they have.
(02:16:42):
And that's all good. But the results aren't there yet,
and I think he can get there. I think they've
got some good players, but some of these guys have
to make that play. Like Jayden Higgins. He's in the
situation where you can't let this small deed Kobe Durant
take the football away from you, and Nick Can'tley can't
(02:17:03):
go out there and do it for him, So you know,
you have to use your personnel. I think they got
to use Jalen no Moore. I think they've got a
more stubborn with the running game, and you've got to
increase The biggest thing I didn't like was the lack
of targets for Nico Collins. You've got to scheme that
and find a way to get him the football. There
shouldn't be a game where he's not getting eight to
(02:17:23):
twelve targets period.
Speaker 8 (02:17:27):
If I got to put him, move him around and
put him in the slot, and run him in motion
and get him in bubbles.
Speaker 6 (02:17:32):
I don't care. He's got to get the ball.
Speaker 9 (02:17:33):
He just does son I pointing out at the end,
I think, you know, I like to think a lot
about what is actually something that you could say is
very good or great. There's one player now that you
don't have Joe Mixon for probably it forever. You know,
this is not a good situation. Has been described to
(02:17:53):
me as tough and complicated, per sources, So it's not
looking good for him coming back anytime soon. Nico Collins
is the only real special guy you could say, NKO,
that's it. That's our Pro Bowl guy. No one else
is in the Pro Bowl. Laken Thomas was in the
Pro Bowl years ago. Turn Brown's on the practice squad.
He's in the Pro Bowl one time. So yeah, he's
(02:18:16):
got to be the focal point of the offense. I mean,
we're talking about maybe a guy that you're trying to
get a hundred catches out of this season, I believe.
And that was a tough start.
Speaker 6 (02:18:25):
Yeah, sure was.
Speaker 8 (02:18:26):
Well let's let you go on this. I want to
get back to Kayley, who I'm always listening. Just like
we give quarterback as a rookie a little bite for
the doubt you got to give a play caller. Yet
I'm going back to the original hiring real quick, and
I don't want to keep you long airin. But when
they hired him, when they hired you, is it got
a little nepotism feel to it because of the familiarity.
I'm not saying that's the only reason, but you know
(02:18:47):
you normally, like in football, if you're a four to
three coach and you don't do it well, they hire
a three four defensive coach. If you're a yeller and
screamer and you don't have success, the next coach, they
hires a more calm guy. Here, you had a rookie
offensive court. He got to the second year, it got worse.
They got rid of him, and he went right back
to a guy who's never called plays again. And I'm
okay with it, because you got to call plays to
(02:19:07):
learn how to call plays. But what was the deciding factor?
Why didn't you go get a veteran that you say
just for now, we got to get back on tracks
so we don't waste what we got. Why go get
a guy who's got to learn on the job.
Speaker 9 (02:19:22):
They knew a lot more about him, including Nick Cassio's
connections and times from right from New England. But not
just because he's never in New England. So I know
a lot of fans get tired of hearing about New England.
But he did work in different systems. He was, you know,
Sean McVay is a fairly effective system. The guys that
have worked for McVeigh, like O'Connell, they've done well and
(02:19:43):
I think more than anything. And the impression he makes,
you know, if you get a chance to talk with him,
he makes a great impression. He is smart. I've no
man can talk to like when he was a student
assistant coach. The people at John Carroll University or the
University of Minnesota coach to work with an actor and
just different guys. They are offensive line coach. No one
(02:20:05):
has ever said anything other than hard working, good emotional intelligence, creative.
Isn't just going to copy the McVay system like he's
gonna put in his own stamp. I don't think we've
seen everything that he's capable of yet. I think there
does need to be some thing of a learning curve
and some patience and maybe in CJ they start having
(02:20:25):
a better collaboration starting on Monday night. It's got to
start happening. And they got a block feet.
Speaker 12 (02:20:32):
Of day and they gotta do Hasan Reddick, and they
gotta do.
Speaker 9 (02:20:34):
A lot of things, and they gotta watch out for
Antoine Winfield. He makes a bunch of plays. I think
eventually it gets better. And they're in a weak division.
So when they start playing the Titans, they start playing
the Jaguars, they start playing these teams that they're supposed
to beat, maybe the winds start happening. But after week Willing,
it's hard for me to sit here and say, oh,
(02:20:55):
they're gonna beat a good team in the playoffs and
they're gonna get to the championship game.
Speaker 12 (02:21:00):
For the first time, not just the history of the franchise,
but first time.
Speaker 9 (02:21:04):
They're the only team in the AFC it's never made
it to that point. They're going six all time, So uh,
I think it'd be very disappointing if they can't go further.
But right now, they you know, you got to get
back to the playoffs and they're off to a tough start.
I got to stick with Kaylee in terms of why
you pick him. If you look at his resume and
you know he was up against there was only one
(02:21:25):
other guy, and it was kind of informal their talk
with Schip Kelly and look how much dough he got
to get back in the OC ranks and the league
Ohio State and didn't sound like that was their budget
for THEOC. But it wasn't up pure bidding or it
just maybe it wasn't a fit. I don't think this
thing got far down the road at all. I think
it was just a quick convo and then it didn't happen.
(02:21:48):
But Kayley, you know, that was the feedback run in
the NFL sean and Dan was.
Speaker 6 (02:21:56):
Agreed.
Speaker 5 (02:21:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (02:21:57):
I mean, but at some point these linemen, I mean,
maybe it's just you know, as simple as this. Maybe
we're over complicating it because we're looking at everything, right,
we're all analytical. If the offensive line isn't it can't
be fixed in one year, which you know is not
you know, uncommon, then maybe this is kind of a
you know, this is holding them back. I don't know
(02:22:17):
how the light just all of a sudden clicks on.
But we're going to see it. I mean, obviously we're
gonna keep evaluating it. But it didn't look good. It
didn't look like it was going to be good enough?
Can it be good enough or can at least be solid?
If it can get to solid from bad, maybe they've
got a chance. You know, there's a lot of maybe's
I've used, or maybe and hope a lot of this conversation,
(02:22:38):
and I don't even like using those words. I like absolutes,
like one certainty, and I don't think it's there yet,
So Donna Stampster, guys, is, we're not sure about this offense,
and you've got to be just very you know, I
gonna be really objective here. I have my doubts, you know,
but I'm willing to change my mind if I see
(02:23:00):
something different than me encouraging right now. Yeah, I'm concerned
about the offense.
Speaker 6 (02:23:05):
Sports Talk seven nineties Texans Insider also does work with
KPRC two. He's Aaron Wilson. Find him on Twitter at
Aaron Underscore, Aaron Wilson Underscore NFL. Aaron, appreciate Tom. We'll
talk to you again, same Toime next week. I have
a great weekend, but appreciate you.
Speaker 9 (02:23:19):
Guys.
Speaker 8 (02:23:19):
You take care what he said about a line play.
There's one position that you may be all adjust a little,
but you talk about either have it or you don't.
Nasty doesn't come by chance. Offensive line play hard to
get fixed to the way you want it. During the season.
(02:23:43):
It's going to be a struggle at that position all
your long. And I'm going to tell you if Joe
Mixon is out for an extended amount of time, the
running back position is going to be different.
Speaker 6 (02:23:51):
It just is doom and gloom. Shawn Salisbury, Sean Salisbury
show right here, Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 8 (02:23:56):
Hey guys, Trajan Wealth, Trajanwealth dot com. My guys, they
you just go your free review. We pick up the
phone and call them or go to Tradanwealth dot com
and see what I'm talking about. It is your retirement.
It is preparing for retirement. Hell, even if you say, Sean,
I'm thirty years away from retirement, wh wouldn't you just
start now whatever. I don't know what that plan is
(02:24:17):
because it's your portfolio. But when you talk with Trajan
Wealth at a free review and go through it, and
if you decide that that's the way you want to
go with your wealth advisor, then they'll walk you through
and you just say, oh, I like that plan. A
plan that allows you to prepare. See, everybody has different plans,
But do you have plans for the five year, one year,
three year, ten year, legacy, generational wealth, risk, tolerance, all
(02:24:38):
those things that we talk about, but we can talk
about it so we're blue in the face.
Speaker 6 (02:24:42):
Do we understand it?
Speaker 8 (02:24:43):
Even as a di wire, I'm always one of those guys.
If I do well at it, can I do better
at it? And Trasian wealth is there with answers to
your questions and expertise, veteran led in family owned and
legitimate veteran led as Jeff Junior is a veteran. So
with that in mind, wouldn't you go to somebody who
has your portfolio? Is their best interest as well? I
(02:25:04):
mean to help you attain your goals. You prepare for vacation.
My son's getting married. Had to prepare for that, boy,
just financially it hit and all those things. If you
don't prepare for it, it's even a double punch to
the face. You do not want retirement to be a
punch to the face. You know what you want to
be a soft cushion of relaxation and whatever that means
to do is I mean fishing, golf and risk. You
(02:25:26):
can risk a little more. You don't have to go
back to work for thirty years and you get to
live the life you want. A great wealth advisor and
a financial fiduciary can help, and Trasian Wealth is there
to help you create security and peace of mind and
anything else that you want to approach and discuss with them.
Speaker 6 (02:25:42):
It's a good place to start.

The Sean Salisbury Show continues.
Speaker 6 (02:26:16):
Shawn Salisbury Show, Sports Talk seven ninety Thanks to Aaron
Wilson for joining us. We're gonna do that every single Friday,
nine o'clock. He'll come on as our Texans insider and
talk about the game coming up that weekend, which in
this case it's gonna be an early week game next
week on Monday night taking on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
College football tomorrow too. That being a fight song Friday,
(02:26:37):
you got some good ones you got Texas taking on
UTEP in Austin. That's gonna get going with the coverage
share on Sports Talk seven ninety at two LSU, gonna
be taken on Florida tomorrow evening five thirty over on
KPRC nine to fifty and Texas A and M and
Notre Dame tomorrow night from out there in South Bend.
That will be a lot of fun. But of course
(02:26:58):
we've talked a lot of Astro. They lose yesterday six
nothing drop that series two out of three. Getting ready
for the Braves in Atlanta. But something you brought up
there sean about one thing for the Texans in order
to be able to kind of reach that nastiness, and
I think you said it was a position that you
had in mind for this team for them to be
able to probably get to where Demiko Ryans wants to,
(02:27:22):
and that is to be able to have more control
of the line of scrimmage, especially on the offensive end
of the football.
Speaker 8 (02:27:28):
There's have to I mean, listen, if you want something
done right, sometimes guess what you got to do. And
at some point in time you can coach your ass
off if a player's not responding, as Aaron had mentioned,
then you got to move on from the player or
you got to replace him. Now, the problem is the
depth on this team is minimal at a lot of positions,
whether it's injury related or just talent related. The defense
(02:27:50):
is so much more talented than the offense due it's
a night and day difference. Now, I think we went
in I said on this show, and I've said on
any show when people have asked me in other places
I do interviews, would you what do you think about Texas?
Speaker 9 (02:28:05):
Here?
Speaker 8 (02:28:06):
I said, the only weakness is the offensive line. But
there's no way they cannot be better. And you know what,
there is a way and sometimes we say that, come on, man,
but there's always a way to be worse. The more penalties,
less physicality. Joe Mixon, that doesn't help because he's hurt.
(02:28:27):
I mean, there's a lot of reasons. But when you
start to look and you know what, the wide receiver
positions become a little bit alarming as well. Injuries have
set it back. Got to get going. Each ta you
take away, Remember I told you be going into the
first week. If you're playing against the Texans, guess who
doesn't get to beach in Nico Collins, and they made
sure he didn't. He didn't get to take over the game. Still,
then somehow then it's on me, as Nick Cayley and
(02:28:49):
c J. Stroud to create formations that allow him. I
don't care if you've got to stick him at iback
in a pistol and throw him a swing route to
get him the ball in space, I don't care what it.
Speaker 9 (02:28:59):
Is got to tie.
Speaker 6 (02:29:00):
You just got to.
Speaker 8 (02:29:01):
If I'm going down and I got an ore and
I'm in a dinghy or that, then the engine doesn't work.
If I have the ore and I just throw in
the oace sad, I'm not going to use it. That
then I'm an idiot.
Speaker 6 (02:29:11):
You got to use it.
Speaker 8 (02:29:13):
And even if that means against double coverage working ways
to get him the ball, that double coverage doesn't come
into play because the over the top help there's that.
I lean on always being the when I air on
the side of aggressiveness. If I'm going down, dude, I'm
going down swinging and I'm going down taking the shooting my.
Speaker 6 (02:29:30):
Shot big time without being an idiot.
Speaker 8 (02:29:33):
Hopefully so for them, they're just not overly gifted on
offense and they're not overly nasty on the offensive line.
If you're not nasty in September, yeah, I assure you.
It's tough to get nasty in November. I promise you
it is. So you can talking all we want. Defense
is going to have to be the key for this team,
and Stroud will have to do stuff that's elevated and
hopefully they can keep him upright the bottom line, and
(02:29:55):
it's one game. I'm not talking, but it's the same
habits and you just look at the roster. There's better
offensive rosters. The offense is going to bring the rest
of the pack back to them in this division, which
is a bummer because this team should clearly be the
best team in the division. It bugs me because we're
onred in game one, worrying, well, rookie caller, how's he
gonna overcome this? If he does coach his ass off,
(02:30:15):
which hopefully will, he comes highly regarded.
Speaker 6 (02:30:18):
But are they deep enough?
Speaker 8 (02:30:19):
You're one Nick Chubb ankle injury away from being in
trouble there too. Hopefully that doesn't happen. So you start
to look around and say, okay, I wouldn't expect this
to be the leading scorer. And now they may go
out and play their ass off this week. But they
are not an overly gifted offense. And sometimes you can
coach your ass off, but if you're coaching, if you're
(02:30:39):
coaching like a ten or you're a stake, you're coaching
like the greatest steak you've ever had. But you got
ground beef as a roster. I'm not saying it's here,
but anywhere, no matter what it is, it's hard to
turn ground beef into filet Mignjon brother yep.
Speaker 6 (02:30:54):
And that's what the Texans have been trying to do.
It's the old chicken salad.
Speaker 8 (02:30:57):
And you know what thing and what's not helping them
is the stuff that you can control. You can I
listen if you don't know who to block and a
four man front. If you don't, I'm not saying that, Listen,
Michael Parsons are going to run by you.
Speaker 1 (02:31:10):
He just is.
Speaker 8 (02:31:10):
Would you play the Packers or would you play Miles
Garrett He's gonna get his or you play TJ.
Speaker 6 (02:31:15):
Watt.
Speaker 8 (02:31:15):
But guess what, I at least got to know who
to block, got to get a hand on him. I
got to put a paw on him. And if you don't,
you don't get beat. I mean, you don't win. That's
the right tackle for University of Texas and they're opener
in Ohio State. Just get a hand on him, and
maybe you get a first down, and maybe you go
down and win. There's a lot of maybes, but now,
at least I got a chance. You got to give
(02:31:35):
me a fighting chance. And so if a four man
basic front gets you in a point where you can't
block him, that ain't a coaching problem, dude, that's a
You either better identify the guy you got to block
and at least put a hand on him. Or I
can't whiff as alignment on a guy who's in a
three point stance. He's he's six inches from you. I
can't whiff on that. I got at least get a
(02:31:57):
hand on him. I don't care what his charge is.
I got to get a hand on him. I can't miss.
And there should be zero confusion, zero on who blocks
who in a four man front or a three man front.
You got five minimum to block them. Now, sometimes the
guy's just better than you and you took an ass
whoop and get in line.
Speaker 6 (02:32:15):
Who hasn't. But I can sure as hell tell you.
Speaker 8 (02:32:17):
This that when three men are at the line of
scrimmage and you don't know who you're supposed to block,
then you need to go take a seat on the bench,
or find a different career, or study more. Now, whether
you can block it or not. Hell, I don't want
to block Michael Parsons. I don't want to block TJ.
Speaker 6 (02:32:32):
Watt. But I promise you this.
Speaker 8 (02:32:36):
Right now, if I'm a tackler, I'm getting my hand
on him somehow because I'll know who to block. Now
he may dominate the hell out, but I'm going to
know who to block. That's a you problem. If you
can't understand that, and that's a lonely work thing that
you've got to take home and that you got to
study without Nick Kayley standing over. You're the offensive line
coach or anybody else, will receiver anybody else. And if
(02:32:56):
you're a receiver and you jump off sides, you're a turd.
You should never jump off side to the rest. You're
staring at the friggin ball. All those things that come
in those are the little things that crush a foundation.
You might as well build your home on sand without
anything anchoring it down, because you'll eventually sink. And that's
the problem. So it's not a matter that they don't
have some gifted players. They don't have an overly talented roster,
(02:33:18):
but on offense they do on defense, But on offense,
their problem is that if you don't know who to block,
how in the world can you block? If you don't
know how to get to a certain point in the
route tree, how do you how can you how do
you get to the spot? It ain't that hard, dude. Listen,
seven man fronts moving around. I get it all out.
Blitz is trying to get confused once in a while.
(02:33:40):
But when you've got numbers in your favor and you
still don't know who to get or how to get
to them, they've got a major problem.
Speaker 6 (02:33:48):
This team's going to.
Speaker 8 (02:33:49):
Struggle offensively more than you think they are now. It
doesn't mean this week overall. You're going to have this
conversation again with us in September. I promise you you
just are. That's who they are right now, and they're
gonna have to rely on some short fields from the
defense this year to get them where they want to go.
Speaker 6 (02:34:06):
Well, need to get there quickly, and especially Monday night
would be a nice time to be able to start
doing that let's get back into the astros because one
thing or at least in this case, two that cannot
be negotiable unless this team wants to miss out on
the postseason. We'll discuss that here. Gary Brandon se y'all
will get you involved seon one three two one two
five seven ninety against someone three two one two five
(02:34:28):
seven ninety.
Speaker 8 (02:34:29):
Hey Witsadvision dot com, my guy, doctor Jeff wits At
Time for another go in and just make sure that
my other eye is rolling. Get rid of these floaters.
But man, I got my Lasik done with doctor whits
It years ago and I couldn't be more pleased. It
makes everything easier, simple round of golf, driving at night.
All the things that I wanted clear he made clearer,
and he walked me through every bit of it and
(02:34:50):
was non invasive. I love it, and you can do
the same thing. You work at your payment plan, get
it done, get in there, test your insurance, all the
things that go with it. But listen, if you if
you're looking for and there's always something great going on
with doctor whitst Aside from helping your eyes, your eye
care or your Lasik procedure. The one thing I'm not
looking for with my eye. Doctor is a assembly line
(02:35:11):
stampy and gets you out because we're in a hurry
to run through one hundred and fifty people in that day.
Speaker 6 (02:35:15):
You will not get that from doctor Whitstt.
Speaker 8 (02:35:17):
What you will get is efficiency on time, not on
the table, long, non invasive recovery and after cares off
the charts and quick. And he's efficient and walks you
through it. If you want to be a number, go
somewhere else. If you want to be treated right and
in your aftercare. So remember these are your eyes. This
isn't like a disposable piece of furniture or luggage or
throw away can.
Speaker 6 (02:35:38):
It's your eyes.
Speaker 8 (02:35:39):
I would assume that you'd want him done right, and
I got mine done right by the right doctor, and
you have him right here, use him seven one three
three sixty five ninety seven nine nine. It is a
free consultation.
Speaker 6 (02:35:50):
Free. If it's free, it's me give me three. But
with consultations you'll only need one.
Speaker 8 (02:35:54):
With doctor Whitsett, it's seven one three three sixty five
ninety seven nine times ninety seven nine nine. Have one
three three six five nine seven nine nine or witsit
vision dot com Listen, don't you deserve a clear picture?
Let doctor whitstt paint it for you. Wits it vision dot.
Speaker 6 (02:36:10):
Com and we're fou.
Speaker 5 (02:36:12):
The Shawn Salisbury Show continued.
Speaker 6 (02:36:24):
Sean Salisbury Show on a Fights on Friday, Sports SOCKX
seven ninety Stros in Atlanta taking on the Braves, trying
to get back on the winning track after losing to
three to the Jays in Toronto. They drop yesterday's six
nothing Texans on Monday night, get the Buccaneers in town
for their home opener and college football tonight over in
(02:36:45):
third Ward. You're gonna have you of H taken on
Colorado again. I mentioned it. Eddie Nunia is thrown out.
About thirty five to thirty seven thousand tickets already sold
for tonight's game, So hoping to get a full building
over there, and again Tail getting it. He gets starting
three point thirty over there at u of H as
they're getting ready for Coach Prime and the Colorado Buffalos.
(02:37:07):
I know we said we get into some Mastros, but
Larry wants to talk Texans, soil wrap the Texans conversation
with him. Larry and Stafford, good morning, Hey, good.
Speaker 10 (02:37:15):
Morning Dan, Sean Hey, Sean, the master question, how many teams.
Speaker 6 (02:37:21):
Are in the NFL?
Speaker 10 (02:37:22):
Thirty two?
Speaker 7 (02:37:22):
Right?
Speaker 6 (02:37:23):
Yep.
Speaker 10 (02:37:25):
So if that's thirty two teams in the National Football
League and we didn't have a tie last week, that
means sixteen teams lost.
Speaker 6 (02:37:33):
If I'm doing my basic math right.
Speaker 10 (02:37:37):
So, And the reason I'm doing that basic math is
for these people that are out here making these grandiose
proclamations that Cdy's no good, d Dimico's no good, Kaylee's
no good. Hey, look, maybe I'm just softening in my
maturing age, son, but here's my position on this. We've
(02:38:00):
played one game on the road in Los Angeles against
a very very good football team, both offensively and defensively,
and had a chance to win that game without our
running back, who isn't our starting running back fumbling that football.
The likelihood is we would have been one of the
(02:38:21):
sixteen on.
Speaker 6 (02:38:21):
The other side.
Speaker 10 (02:38:23):
And the reason I'm getting frustrated with this is because
this team has not had a chance yet to really
identify exactly what they're going to be. We know that
Nico Collins got to get the ball more, we know
Nick Chubbs should have been in the game instead of
(02:38:43):
Darray and Damon Pierce. Nick Tayley is going to be
able to probably put together a scheme or a plan
that's gonna allow this offense to do what he envisions
and what Sejons and what Gerard Johnson envisioned. But I
think now that we've gotten to the point that we
just have chosen not to show any patients because we're
(02:39:06):
instant society as if we lost.
Speaker 15 (02:39:08):
The Super Bowl.
Speaker 10 (02:39:09):
In Game one, I told y'all I had the Texans
going seventeen and oh to start the season. Now I've
adupted my I've adjusted my prediction to sixteen and one.
Let's get off this legs, man and let these boys
get this scene together and get over there on Monday
night and go and have some fun and watch this
(02:39:31):
scene start doing the things that we want them to do.
I'm not that worried, Sean, because it's a long season
and you know your boy ain't where y'all shouldn't be worried.
Speaker 6 (02:39:38):
Even on Hall.
Speaker 8 (02:39:40):
Appreciate he's gonna get some me acting a ciguard this weekend.
I can tell you this, Larry, It's absurd. Yeah, Larry
can see he knows football that they're not as talented
as they've been. But that's part of the genius that
Nick Cayley has to come up with. Okay, how do
I take the team that has what I have? And
I know it sounds simple, but that's what you have
to do. You may not be able to do all
the stuff you wanted to band with wise, but you've
(02:40:02):
got to do enough stuff to give them a chance
to be successful. And as I've said all week and
Larry echoed it, they lost. They didn't score touchdown, but
they lost when they're driving in the red zone, laid
the ball on the ground with a chance to beat
a team who could very well be in the Super
Bowl this year.
Speaker 6 (02:40:16):
They're that good.
Speaker 9 (02:40:17):
So it was.
Speaker 8 (02:40:18):
And the defense is outstanding. We don't have to and
the quarterback here is special, folks, make no mistake about it.
Speaker 6 (02:40:24):
CJ.
Speaker 8 (02:40:25):
Stroud's a player and Demiko Ryan's has got them division
win and he's had to adjust with the coordinators as well.
They're gonna be fine there. It's there's the things that
are obvious that we know that have to happen. But listen,
I got news for it. The Titans, the Jacksonville Jaguars,
and the Colts are gonna have plenty of problems this year.
But if you want to get where you're going, Larry
(02:40:46):
and you and I all know this that there's another
level they're gonna have to get to.
Speaker 9 (02:40:51):
Now.
Speaker 8 (02:40:51):
If we're talking about the same thing in week five,
Larry and I's conversation is going to change immensely.
Speaker 6 (02:40:57):
Doesn't mean you quit on them.
Speaker 8 (02:40:58):
But if they're one and four and it's getting they're
so inflicted, then you gotta adjust it. But one game
against the Rams and Tampa's no slouch. Don't kid yourself,
They're no slouch. So it's it's going to be interesting.
It is Tampa, right, that's Tampa right, is so that's
we know that there. One game isn't the judgment, but
(02:41:18):
that's the only thing yet they're picking up their check.
So we got to judge them, and their judgment was offensively.
Speaker 6 (02:41:23):
They were putrid at times, and the judgment is is
that it looked a lot like last year dead and
you want to be able to repass days got to
be fixed. Yes, it does, absolutely all right, we'll get

Weekend on the right note, Fight Song Friday Sports Talk
seven nineties Stros in Atlanta, taking on the braves by
the way, Jaden Murray going to get the start tonight.
Speaker 6 (02:43:42):
It was TBA against Herson Waldrip, but now it's gonna
be Jaden Murray. So basically a bullpenning game tonight for
the Stros after they dropped two out of three to
the Jays, losing Esday six nothing. They've lost their last
three series and now they're tied with the Mariners because
Seattle won last night to up the division lead in
the West and the Rangers, though, by the way, they
(02:44:02):
were off so they gained a half a game. They're
only two games back, so we got a battle royal
going on. Daddy, don't hit the baseball and find out
that's what it is for you, buddy. Yeah, well, you know,
grinding on strikeouts and you know week a little bouncers
to third base and shortstop, that's what it gets you.
Speaker 8 (02:44:19):
You know, I'm pumped today. It's Friday. You know I
love my Fridays. Oh, of course a week I love
my Fridays.
Speaker 6 (02:44:23):
Whoever goes into a Friday and says this sucks.
Speaker 8 (02:44:25):
Yeah, nobody, especially when you get three day weekends off
on a rounding basis. You know, people consider Friday Day
not us. So we're grinding, Dan. Of course, we always
lude big Oldberg today, Well.
Speaker 6 (02:44:35):
He just missed a putt, So hopefully you don't feel feel.
Speaker 8 (02:44:37):
Like Ludwig Oldberg. See if he's meal missed two more,
don't miss one more. Make the third. Yeah, at least
no more than three once once. Once it hits three,
then you gotta you gotta flip the ball. Feel a
little bit like Ludvig. My swing day's gonna be like Ludwig.
Speaker 6 (02:44:52):
Older Well, good, good, just make your putts. Let me
ask you this, You got any bets for me this weekend?
Well you got? What's what do we got for the
spread of the Texans? Texans? It last checked? Was the
field goal? No, it was it was minus one Texans. Whoa,
which is not good because you know, don't you usually
get three points? So basically they're telling you take the bucks.
(02:45:12):
Hmmm he minus one Texans.
Speaker 8 (02:45:17):
That's what it was when I last saw it. Yes,
so Astros are going to be one game out tonight.
Speaker 6 (02:45:22):
Huh, whoa. I'm just kidding, use I hope not. I'll
just check any good college bets for me out there.
Speaker 8 (02:45:27):
I mean, I got them. I'm just kidding, but I'm
just you know, for the peeps, I got it. I
gotta look in the morning. Now it's two and a
half Texans. So yeah, I like the Texans at home
this week and a close one, hopefully I do. I'll
take a field goal game and if it's fifty yards
or more, it's a no brainer.
Speaker 6 (02:45:43):
Real quick, before we get to Gary, I have to
have Hunter Brown and fromber Valdez this weekend. They have
to be themselves. It's it's not a I want it,
it's a I need it. It's a musk. It has
you're at must level now right, yes it is. Those
guys have to be those guys, Gary and Spring real
quick here, man, we got about thirty seconds.
Speaker 15 (02:46:01):
Hey guys, good morning.
Speaker 11 (02:46:02):
You know, the mind is a funny thing. I'm I'm
an old guy and I can't I hadn't even figured
mine out yet. But you know, everything that y'all been
talking about the Astros UH and the Texans is one accurate.
That's exactly the way I feel when I'm watching them
play a game. But since I've been listening to y'all
stayed all this accuracy, my mind's gone to the other side.
(02:46:23):
I guess I have an underdog mentality because now I'm
thinking the Astros uh they're they're they're what an exciting
RACIS is going to be. They're tied for first place
with just a minimum amount of games to go. And
the Texans are got a new uh, new coordinator, new,
so many new things in their games, in their on
(02:46:45):
their team this year. It's going to take them four
or five games to get it going. So it's unbelievable
how I agree one hundred percent with everything you said today.
But since I've listened to all that, the underdog and
me switched to the other side, and I want to
think all the positives about it.
Speaker 6 (02:47:00):
Thanks, I appreciate it, man, I like that all right, positivity.
And it's okay to think underdog. That's okay. Underdogs do
a lot of good stuff. Underdogs usually get things done.
Speaker 8 (02:47:09):
You know what, if you're really good, you have a
message to send. And I would imagine that the Texans
were a little embarrassed by the way they played offensively.
Speaker 6 (02:47:16):
Let's hope they send a message. And let's hope the
Astros and the message in Atlanta and the other side
of it.
Speaker 8 (02:47:20):
Is that's it, the Astros. The gap is closed big
now and now we'll go find out just about that
metal this year and who they are.
Speaker 6 (02:47:27):
Let's see it. He's sewn tripley. I mean, enjoy you
as well, man, and you you all out there in
the audience do the same thing. The Matt Thomas Show
with Ross is coming up next. Dan Matthews, we will
talk to y'all in sixty eight hours
