Speaker 1 (00:02):
Soulsby.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Okay, let's do this Sewn Salisbury.

Speaker 3 (00:12):
To usc Troup's longtime friend Shawn Salisbury.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Dan Matthew, excuse, this is the Sean Salisbury show.

Speaker 4 (00:23):
Two oh and that has hid high in the air
pretty deep to left center field, racing back Simpson and Meisner,
and that ball.

Speaker 5 (00:30):
Is gone.

Speaker 4 (00:33):
Off the video board and left center for estoc parade.
He ce homers for the second straight day and for
the third time of the last four days.

Speaker 5 (00:40):
And just like that, it's two to nothing.

Speaker 6 (00:42):
First pitch from Brown is drilled to center field, back
on Ad Myers drifting looking up and it's gone. Drove
it to right center field and puts the Rays up
three to two.

Speaker 4 (00:56):
First pitch and that's lifted in the air pretty deep
to right. Myers is back, so is Smith and it's gone.
Josh Lo goes deep. Second home run in the last
two innings for Tampa Bay and their lead is now
four to two. Low With his second home run, Fairbanks delivers,
Walker takes off ground ball hit up the middle field.

(01:18):
It behind shortstop or behind second by the shortstop. Cape
Arow throws to first and that is the ballgame. The
Tampa Bay Rays come from behind for a second straight
day to defeat the Astros by a final of eight
to four.

Speaker 5 (01:33):
Rays take two out of three in the series.

Speaker 4 (01:35):
The Astros in their seven game road trip through Arlington
and Tampa at three and four.

Speaker 5 (01:41):
Oh how fun is that?

Speaker 7 (01:43):
I mean, who here had a nice little Wednesday planned
out and maybe you know, skip through their midday nap thinking, okay,
Hunter Brown's going You lost a tough one the night before,
but you can take this one. And sorry, it off
pretty nice, as you just heard Robert Ford right there
with the East Soak Perettis to run homer call. But
then the rest of the game, oh not so great,

(02:05):
as the Astros get outscored the rest of the way
eight to two and drop the finale of the series.
That you just heard Robert Ford give you the final
score there, and with all that we say away we
go in good morning Here on the Sean Salisbury Show
Dan Matthews Triple E now normally Tuesdays and Thursdays courtesy
at Carbach Brewing, we get Chris Gordy at the nine
o'clock hour. Well guess what I got great news for

(02:28):
you all today. You get Chris Gordy for four hours
today the Gordatron in with us this morning. Gordy, that
was not a fun afternoon of baseball.

Speaker 8 (02:40):
Well, it wasn't fun after the baseball and it wasn't
fun giving that news that that wrinkle that dropped right,
I think right when you guys were going off the
air yesterday, right with that A Blanco heading back to
Houston because of you know whatever it was, you know,
to get get double checked by doctors and stuff like that.

Speaker 9 (03:03):
It was just like, are you kidding me?

Speaker 10 (03:05):
Uh?

Speaker 8 (03:06):
And then on top of it, yeah, to have the
uh them, you know, jump out to a you know,
start strong to nothing lead in the first with a
another Estcoc Paradis home run. He's he is your offense now,
I mean, Paradius is doing everything he can. But you know,
roun a rare off night from him. He was you know,
he's been so good all year long. He's been your ace.

(03:28):
But goes fivings, gives up five earned. It was his
worst start of the year in an otherwise saw young season.

Speaker 9 (03:36):
So, uh, you know, time and time again, Dan, we
see this.

Speaker 8 (03:39):
This this team is not good enough to overcome subpar
starting pitching performances. They used to do, They used to
be a strong offense. They used to win games nine
to seven, but that's that's out the window. They can't
do that anymore. When the starting pitching is no good,
this team is not gonna win games.

Speaker 7 (03:55):
Yeah, I mean, and it's one thing that I've talked
about numerous times. You just you can't count on that
from the team, and you haven't really been able to
count on that. I would probably say, Gordy for the
better part of about the last five years, you haven't
been able to I mean slowly and surely you kind
of started to see it, you know, creak away and
that you didn't necessarily you know, have that sock in

(04:17):
your lineup that you had because I mean, how many
times from about twenty seventeen so about twenty twenty one.
I guess maybe we could even say, well, we'll throw
twenty two in there where it was they're playing bad baseball.

Speaker 5 (04:31):
Man, they look bad.

Speaker 7 (04:32):
Oh, they're gonna start you know, this thing's going to
start to fall apart here on them, and then you
know they'd be losing by two or three runs, like
on the road in Oakland and they are up for
like five runs in an inning, and you're just like, Okay,
all right, I get it there, you guys are, but
like it just it feels like they don't have that
extra gear to kick in every once in a while

(04:54):
where they can still remind people, no, we're still us.

Speaker 9 (04:59):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (05:00):
And then you know the other part of it too,
you know, they get for forced Whitley. Hey, welcome back, Bud. Good,
good to have you back. And that was not good either.
You know, he ends up giving the three earned and
basically takes you completely out of it. So you know,
it had no chance. So disappointing because this is an
appearance on the Go on April twenty first, he went

(05:21):
two shutout innings in a game that you won against
the Blue Jays, and so you were you were kind
of encouraged by Okay, we get another arm in the
bullpen back, but uh, but yeah, Whitley wasn't good and
so you know, put it out of put it out
of reach, and you know, I start to start to
look at this team and go, man, that's you know
that there was a chance here of you know, you

(05:43):
had not dropped the series since the start of the
month with the Brewers, right, you lost the series up
in Chicago against the White Sox and then you immediately
went up to Milwauk. You lost two out of three there,
but then he came back. You won two out of
three against the Redge, You won two out of three
against the Royals. You split a four gamer with the Rangers.
This is a perfect opportunity. They'd blown opportunity, and not

(06:03):
so much yesterday, but really the Tuesday night game, you
know that you had the league late.

Speaker 9 (06:08):
You should have won that game.

Speaker 8 (06:09):
And just think of how we'd be filling today even
if you lose yesterday in the fashion you did, if
you had just held on to win that game Tuesday,
maybe sitting there going no hard, no foiul, it's another
another series one and all this and again it's just
one game, but it just it leaves that much of
a bad taste in your mouth. By the way, did
you see the attendance for yesterday and it was eighty

(06:30):
five hundred people? You you lost in front of eighty
five hundred people. You couldn't get any You couldn't get big, can,
couldn't get bounced like eighty five hundred people. Absolutely ridiculous.

Speaker 7 (06:42):
Well, I mean, and another thing, and I didn't tweet
this out, but I was thinking it did you catch
that they were doing and TK even mentioned it like
when Hunter Brown was a little erratic there in the
first inning, and then they even started doing it with
Forrest Whitley, the stupid Texas A and m Raggy change
it's a ball four ball five. It's like, you're really

(07:03):
that much of an unoriginal, just idiot fan base that
doesn't even really even have a fan base. You play
in a Mickey Mouse ballpark, your owner doesn't even care
about you, like he's slow playing this to move your team.
You do realize that it's just like just shut up
and go the game.

Speaker 8 (07:19):
Like seriously, well, I think most of those people I
the game are are not typical Tampa Bate Race fans,
Like I think, you know, that was the biggest thing
when I first went to that stadium. Realise it's all
the way down at Saint Pete and people talk about
the traffic on the bridge from downtown Tampa to Saint
Petersburg like it's impossible to get over there.

Speaker 9 (07:40):
So like majority of the batter.

Speaker 8 (07:41):
Season ticket holders and actually go to race games live
in Saint Pete. So where they're playing this, you know
where the Steinbergerfield is. I think you're getting people coming
to games that never go to baseball games or have
never been to RAG games really, so, I don't know,
I'm with you. It's everything about it was was Mickey
OUs even Julian Morales and some of the other you know,

(08:02):
people that were there said what a you know, what
a joke of a stadium. It was that they went thing,
you know, they had heard all these things like, oh yeah,
sure it's a minor league park, but man, it's got
the feel of.

Speaker 9 (08:13):
A big league game.

Speaker 8 (08:14):
Like they've done a great job of improving the atmosphere
now they haven't.

Speaker 9 (08:17):
Everybody.

Speaker 8 (08:18):
Everybody, to a man that was there, I heard said
that that stadiums it's a joke. It feels like it
felt like a spring training game.

Speaker 9 (08:25):
They all said, well.

Speaker 7 (08:26):
I mean, and that's you know, I heard them mention that,
you know what you mentioned when they brought on Julia
just for a second there in the middle of the game.
But I mean, that's just an aside. And you mentioned
Renel Blanco and we'll get into a little bit of
Hunter Brown here, but like, if you're major League Baseball,
how do you allow this? Like like seriously, like how
do you allow not one team two of your thirty

(08:47):
teams in the league are playing in a minor league ballpark.
Like say something were to happen to an NBA arena,
stuff like this would not happen. Say something like this
were to happen in the NFL, which we do have
a little bit of precedent, but like say, for you know,
Katrina with the Saints, they split them between San Antonio
and Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, what was it the

(09:07):
Bears when Soldier Field was under construction, they sent them
over to Champagne and had them play at University of Illinois,
like they had them play at like actual stadiums that
could sustain NFL crowds, and actually had somewhat of an
answer for it, Like I understand that you don't just
have like major league ready ballparks there for you and

(09:28):
at the ready, but it's just it's a bad look.
And I mean, and you're trying to have these guys
who were used to certain accommodations. And I understand, it's baseball,
it's on the field, all those different things, but it's
just it looked like a Mickey Mouse operation, and it
played like a Mickey Mouse operation.

Speaker 8 (09:47):
Yeah, and the astro was offense played like a Mickey
mouse and couldn't get the job done. So you know,
it's crazy days. Go back and look at the last
I don't know, last week plus of baseball. Go back
to May eleven, two weeks ago they beat the Red
six to nothing. Since then, look at the offensive the

(10:09):
scoring output five runs in a loss, two runs, four runs,
no runs. Okay, they did have six runs in the
game two against the Rangers. One run, four runs, four runs,
three run, I'm sorry, two runs, four runs. Like this
team lives in the three to four run average, Like that's.

Speaker 9 (10:28):
Where they live.

Speaker 8 (10:29):
And on the next when they score two runs or less,
they're losing that ball game.

Speaker 9 (10:34):
Like they just they can't win. They can't win those
low scoring games.

Speaker 8 (10:38):
But it's like they get about three or four runs
a night, and you hope that's good enough. If if
you're pitching staffs Off, you was.

Speaker 9 (10:45):
In six to three. But if you're you know, if.

Speaker 8 (10:47):
You're pitching stass On, you're winning four to two or something.
You know what I mean, Like that's what I'm the point.
There's where are the crooked numbers? Remember the old I mean?
For you know, quick a look at past astros it's
like every now and then you'd have a game that's
ten to three, you know what I mean, Like, how
many times are they scored in double digits this year?

Speaker 9 (11:05):
Feels like once or twice, Like.

Speaker 8 (11:09):
They they've not had one of those big, fat, crooked
number games.

Speaker 7 (11:13):
Really yeah, and it doesn't look like they're going to
be getting many of those opportunities against Seattle. Who oh,
that was another punch to the shorts yesterday because you
had the White Sox leading the Mariners late in that
game and then Seattle comes back wins. I mean, that
would have been somewhat salvageable if somehow the White Sox
were able to pull that off. Okay, you're still down

(11:34):
two and a half games. It's one game, I get that.
But now you're down three and a half games against
this team coming in and I mean, you know it's
what you're talking about with the lineup, f around and
find out man, and like, you know, continue to be
the way that you are and just going up to
the plate overthinking it striking out looking twelve strikeouts yesterday,

(11:55):
by the way, like it's not a hey, you know, hey,
come on, guys, like you really need like step up,
like It's almost kind of a I need, you know,
the ghost of Augie Gurrito in the in the locker
room yelling at his team to do that to those
guys and be like, this isn't acceptable. Like those guys
pointing to the pitchers, they're stepping up for this team.

(12:15):
When are you going to wake up and step up
for this team?

Speaker 9 (12:20):
Yeah?

Speaker 8 (12:21):
And and this is I hate to say it, Dan,
but this is such an important series. I get it,
still may and so many people are like, oh, it's
you know, not until we get into June. Does do
I even look at the standings? I get it, But dude,
you're three and a half back. You get swept in
this series versus the Mariners or lose three out of four,

(12:41):
which is.

Speaker 9 (12:41):
Very much and play.

Speaker 8 (12:43):
I mean you're talking about creating a massive hole for yourself.
I mean you could be setting games back going to
you know, we're.

Speaker 9 (12:50):
Not even in the JUNI yet.

Speaker 8 (12:51):
Like it's it's crazy because we bragged about him, Dan
for the last couple of weeks about hey, at least
they're playing you know, five hundred ball and they're you know,
they haven't dug this massive hole that they dug last
you know, season out of the gates. But Harris is
playing good baseball and if you mess around, and you know,
I almost look at it as at minimum, I think

(13:12):
you gotta split.

Speaker 9 (13:12):
I think you got to find a way to go
to and two to not lose any ground.

Speaker 8 (13:17):
But even two and two keeps you three and a
half games back of him, and it's just it's gonna
be tough.

Speaker 9 (13:22):
You're gonna chasing them for a while.

Speaker 7 (13:25):
Well, and we saw them have to do that sprint
speed last year to the finish line and try to
do everything they could to be able to overtake and
eventually overtake the Mariners. But you know, as you mentioned,
they get the Mariners in town to start up a
four game series tonight, Lance mccullors junior against George Kirby
making his season debut for Seattle, and that's gonna be

(13:47):
just after seven o'clock, first pitch, six o'clock. Astros on
deck coming your way here. On Sports Talk seven ninety
you mentioned Renel Blanco sent back to Houston soreness in
his elbow being checked out by doctors. We're expected to
be joined this morning at nine thirty by Astros GM
Dana Brown for his weekly visit here on the Shawn
Salisbury Show. We'll see if he's got an update on

(14:07):
that NBA playoffs last night. How about that finish in
New York between the Pacers and the Knicks as the
Pacers able to come back from fourteen points down under
three minutes to go in the game and they win
that one by threet to take Game one of the
Eastern Conference Finals. That much more to get into as

(14:28):
we're just getting rolling here on the Sewn Salisbury Show.
But one thing though, Gordy I do want to talk
about here, and we'll do that coming up here on
the show. Is I mean, just one of those things
that might be a nightmare realized for this team.

Speaker 5 (14:43):
We'll discuss that here as we're just getting.

Speaker 7 (14:45):
Going on a Thursday edition, hamster came off the wheel
of What day it was the Thursday edition of.

Speaker 5 (14:52):
The Shawn Salisbury Show, Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 11 (14:54):
Hey Men's teaclinicmn's tea clinic dot Com. I'm talking to
the dudes out there struggling in low gear and not
sure where they're getting their freak on right at home?
Are you any good in the sheets? Well, maybe it's
sexual wellness you need what about full body wellness? Well
sexual wellness seems to be always something that's talked about
when it comes a low testosterone, and you don't want

(15:15):
it to be anything worse than That's the best way
you can do it is just go in.

Speaker 5 (15:17):
And draw a little blood. It's not invasive.

Speaker 11 (15:19):
By the end of the day, you'll have your results
and get to working on normalizing your testosterone. And it
may be sexual wellness you're concerned about it, maybe full
body wellness. It may be energy, maybe irritability, all those
things that come under that umbrella. But if it's full
body wellness, why wouldn't you want to find out first?

Speaker 5 (15:34):
Isn't that half the battle?

Speaker 11 (15:35):
Know one the conflicts so you can find answers to
the conflict, and that is Men's Tea Clinic can help.
Nine to seven to two. Go Men's Tea again, draw
a little blood. Why are you stand stuck in lower gear?
If you want to shift the narrative on your life,
and it is changing lives and saving them in some cases,
get to Men's Tea Clinic. It's Men'stclinic dot com. You
deserve not only peace of mind, you deserve a great

(15:58):
year ahead. Men's Tclinic dot com, Min's Tea Clinic dot com.
Nine seven two go minste Let's go on.

Speaker 2 (16:05):
This is the Sean Salisbury Show.

Speaker 7 (16:08):
Renelle Blanco sent back to Houston with Elbow Soren. It's
gonna see if Dana Brown has an update about him
coming up at nine thirty when he's scheduled to join
us here on the show. And I mentioned the Pacers
coming back from fourteen down to shock the Knicks n
ot one thirty eight, one thirty five game one of
the Eastern Conference Finals last night. This is just some

(16:29):
of the things that have happened here in the last
twenty four hours. Many other two, especially on the NFL
front and even locally on the college basketball scene. I'm
sure you probably know what news we're talking about there,
but we'll get into all of that a little bit later.
But again someone three two, one, two five seven ninety
is the number two jump in on the phone lines.

(16:50):
As so, we've been talking about the frustrations of yesterday's
game for the Astros and really the last couple of
games there in Tampa just not a fun one to
end the series. You get the one on Tuesday night
where you lead going into the eighth inning by two,
and you give up two there in the eighth for
the tie, and then you give up the walk off
there in the ninth, and then yesterday where it looked

(17:12):
like it started off well and you're thinking to yourself, Okay, hey,
you suck, pretis to run Homer here. That's a nice
way to start. That's how you want things to get going.
And then you weren't able to add on offensively. You scuffle,
You look the same way that you pretty much have
looked all season long offensively. And I understand they're a
little banged up. Some of the guys that you're wanting
to count on you can't count on right now just

(17:34):
because they're not stepping up for you in that fashion.
And the Astros had a game that followed that same suit, losing.
It's eight to four to Tampa Bay seven one three
two one two five seven ninety. We'll get it fired
up on the phone lines this morning. Billy wants to
be first in.

Speaker 5 (17:50):
Good morning, Billy, Hey, good morning Dan.

Speaker 1 (17:53):
You know I'm not worried.

Speaker 12 (17:55):
I'm still not worried about this team. I'm not gonna
go back of the base card. But you know, historically
with these guys, just about all of them. We've seen
them hit. We know they're gonna hit Walker Alto. They
I know they're not producing, but I believe they're without
a doubt, these.

Speaker 1 (18:13):
Guys are gonna start coming through.

Speaker 12 (18:15):
And when you take an A and Alvarez out of
your lineup, you didn't poke a hole in the boat.
You kick the bottom of it out. And that's a
beast to have in the middle of your lineup. And
he calms a lot of things down. I know we're
all questioning, what is the injury. I please don't say bone, Bruce,
because we know that that's ten days to six months.

Speaker 1 (18:38):
So we don't want to hear that.

Speaker 12 (18:40):
But you know, I think he's gonna get healthy and
everything's gonna be fine. The fishing is gonna be there.
The last couple of games, one of the out of
character things that happened with this team was errors, and
they just don't do that. They've got a the whole year,
they've had a very good defense, and they had some missteps.

Speaker 1 (18:58):
All right, I can deal with that.

Speaker 12 (19:00):
Somebody needs to take du Bond's outfield glove away, but no,
the whole thing.

Speaker 1 (19:07):
Was just completely out of character for this team. They
are at five hundred.

Speaker 12 (19:11):
I know, once again, nobody wants to hear that, but
last year they were what five six games under it
this time and everybody has had written them off. I'm
not going to write this team off. I know what
they've done. I know what they can do the pitching.
Even though we've got some injuries, we do have some
guys getting healthy. Spaghetti is getting ready to come back.
I'm excited about that, and you're going to get Christian

(19:34):
Javier in July, and who knows what else.

Speaker 1 (19:37):
I also trust Danna Brown.

Speaker 12 (19:39):
I don't trust Dana Brown to tell me the truth
about an injury, but I do trust him to get
help for this team. I trust him to go out
and make the right moves, find the guy that nobody
expects to come in here and produce. I trust our
pitching coaches. I still think they need to call Uncle
Mike and get some help on the hitting side, just
to get a different voice. So these guys will wake

(19:59):
up a little bit. And I think once they start
hitting and they start clicking on all cylinders, everybody's going
to come back around. It's going to be fine. Get
off the ledge, folks, it's gonna be fine. We're gonna
be there at the end of the year. I'm sure
of that. Thanks Jef Dan to have a great show.

Speaker 7 (20:13):
Thank you, Yeah, I appreciate you bringing the positivity this morning, Billy.
I mean, is it is one of those things Chris
that Billy was just bringing up. I mean this time
last year as he brought up that point fifty games in,
they were twenty two and twenty eight, and they had
just lost the finale of that series against the Angels.
I remember it too. It was an afternoon game against

(20:34):
Tyler Anderson. They lost two to one, and you're just
kind of like, come on, man, like, how do you
only score one run against the Angels? And after that
the Astros they beat the A's two out of three
there in Oakland, and then that was the frustrating four
game series that they had in Seattle, where again the Bats,
who're just like, are you guys gonna step up for

(20:55):
your pitching staff like at any time this year? Like
is that ever going to happen? Or or is this
just kind of going to be what this team is?
And then they won the finale of that series, and
once they got into June, that's when things started to
turn around a little bit where they went ten and
three at home and then seven to five away from
then a minute made Park.

Speaker 8 (21:15):
Well, I mean again the Blanco injury. And we'll wait
on you know, specifics, but we could say it doesn't
look good right or it doesn't sound good. I mean
from what we're hearing, like he's coming back to I
think the fish word was elbow soreness and he's heading
back to Houston to see team doctors. I mean, everybody

(21:35):
immediately and how can you not jumps to tom and
if that's the case for o Blanco is going to
I mean this one shit day for we found hebs
Netsky is done with Tommy like it's an absolute crushing
blow because I kept saying, well, you can overcome this
with a big three of Fromber, Hunter Brown and Blanco.

(21:58):
But if you're gonna lose Blanco too, my god. I
mean Dan understand, like it's Hunter Brown and Fromber one
and two. Lance McCullers here now becomes your three.

Speaker 9 (22:08):
A guy who has.

Speaker 8 (22:08):
An ERA of seven eighty eight and has not I
mean the longest he's gone is four innings pitched in
a game.

Speaker 4 (22:16):
Uh.

Speaker 8 (22:17):
And then you look at Ryan Gusto and Colton Gordon
and go, hey, really need you to do something you've
never done before, and step that as the four and
the five, and then you know, the hope is eventually
at some point you get Spencer Ragady back and then
you know, post All Star breaks sometime later in the season,
potentially Luis Garcia JP France.

Speaker 9 (22:38):
But that's that's your best hope at this point.

Speaker 8 (22:40):
So yeah, I mean, I heard Matt Ross kicking around
yesterday like the Askers need to go trade for an
arm like it it almost it feels that way if
you're gonna if Blanco is gonna be done.

Speaker 9 (22:50):
For the year.

Speaker 7 (22:51):
Well, I mean, especially if you do get that news,
which I mean you mentioned it, it does seem like
it might be trending that direction. When you hear elbow soreness,
it it's usually not a good thing. I mean, if
it's a shoulder, it's like, okay, hey, let the inflammation
play out whatever, then it's fine, you know. Even fore
armstream I mean, I'm trying to remember who it was

(23:11):
for the Mariners, if it was Logan Gilberts. I'm trying
to where you know, you heard a forearm issue, and
that's another one that you're like, oh, that's either thoracic
outlet or that is the other thing that you don't
want to hear about. And they've been able to get
him back. So I mean, you hope for good news,
but I mean, yeah, it's it's soon enough. The credit

(23:32):
card bill comes due, and that's what kind of worries me,
you know, Gordy, and we can probably pick this up,
you know, the conversation again of I mean, you could
only lose so many guys, and then finally you realize, oh,
that attrition is starting to play up. I mean, yesterday
with Brown, you have three airs in the field. I
would say that probably all three of those home runs

(23:54):
that Tampa Bay hit would have been flyouts at mostly
any other park, but because you've got the wind blowing
out and it's a shorter park, all of that kind
of stuff. I mean, especially the final one there that
it just barely was a wall scraper. I mean, you
see Cam Smith, he seriously thought that was going to
be short of the warning track and it almost kind
of like looked like he had a look on his
face like how is this ball still carrying?

Speaker 5 (24:15):
Like what is happening? And finally he ran out of room.

Speaker 9 (24:20):
Yeah I heard Hudder.

Speaker 8 (24:22):
Brown even said that that he thought they were like
pop out or flyout.

Speaker 9 (24:25):
So the ball just kept carrying. So yeah, I'm not
worried about Hunter Brown again.

Speaker 8 (24:30):
He's he's allowed to have a bad start because he's
been money in every other dart all season.

Speaker 9 (24:35):
But I'm just worried.

Speaker 8 (24:38):
I'm worried about like now you're look at Hunton Brown
and go, dude, you have to be nails every time
out the rest of the season, if you know, if
this is gonna be our rotation. And by the way,
I should have Brandon Walter's name in there. He was
very good five shutout innings the other night in his
first start for the Astros, so you know that. By
the way, like I had to look him up. Like
guy was with the Red Sox for ten games two

(24:58):
years ago and that's the only other time he's played
in the Majors. So yeah, if he wants to do
that again, great, But god man, looking at Gusto, Gordon
and Walter going, you guys, some combination of you guys
have to pick up the slack. You know, maybe aj
blue ball gets another chance to come back up. But
Lance mccullors as your third best pitching option right now, Dan,

(25:20):
it spells trouble.

Speaker 7 (25:23):
Not a life you want to lead, that's for sure.
I mean, you know, for the lance that we believe
we knew in the past. I mean, it's still kind
of the burden and proof on him to prove that
he can still be that guy. And again, I mean,
he hadn't pitched it in over two years and we've
seen him now three times, and you've mentioned that longevity
has not been his thing. So we'll continue this on
the pitching front here. And you know, if you want

(25:44):
to join what Billy just did on the phone line
seven one three two one two five seven ninety against
seven one three two one two five seven ninety. Again,
we're just getting started here, John Salisbury Show, Sports Talk
seven ninety.

Speaker 11 (25:55):
Country Boys roofing. You need help with those navigation of
those insurance claims.

Speaker 5 (26:01):
They'll do it.

Speaker 11 (26:02):
No job too big or too small anywhere in Houston.
All those things, Country Boys will be there for you.
Also be aware scams right now storm season, not only
the scam of gouging you and charging you more than
they should, but of being false and taking your money
asking for it and upfront and then boom disappearing, and
Country Boy's Roofing wants you just to be aware, regardless

(26:23):
of who you decide, to make sure you're doing your
due diligence. You don't need to get ripped off, especially
at a time when storms are gonna hit. You're going
to need your roof fixed or your roof needs fixed now,
and somebody are gonna try to oki Dookia, not Country
Boys Roofing. It's a country with the cave boys with
a Z one five hundred dollars discount on the full

if you're not, a thousand dollars discount on the full

(26:44):

Country Boy's Roofing cares. They're transparent, they are family owned,
they are locally owned and operated, and people that have
used them have sent me pictures and said, you know what,
this is the quality work they do, cleaned up after
perfect job. That's who John is loyal, trusted, and also
warning you about scams that may go on and if

(27:04):
you want it done right for the right price and
the right discount, not gouging, it's Country Boys, Roofing Country

with the right discount, without gouging. Country with the K

(27:26):
Boys with the Z Countryboysroofing dot Com for the Shawn
Salisbury Show continued.

Speaker 7 (27:35):
And the Tush Push lives to fights at least another
year in the NFL. And we'll get into some NFL
a little bit later on in the show, but seven
one three two one two five seven ninety is the
number to get in on the phone lines if you
want to continue the Astros conversation here as a little
bit more on the pitching. I mean, as we mentioned,

(27:56):
I mean a rough outing yesterday for Hunter Brown, and
I mean for what we've become accustomed to Gordy. It
was a very non Hunter Brown start, because he'd been
a guy that had been littering the zone with strikes.
He'd been a guy that had not walked a ton
of people. I mean, we've seen him give up the
walks a few times. He only has a couple there
in the first inning, he did settle in, But again

(28:18):
I do think that more it was a factor of
where you were playing yesterday. It's a ballpark that probably
some of those balls stay in the yard as opposed
to going out of the yard. So you give up
those five earned runs, three of those on those home runs,
But then you also have a couple of airs out
and left by Mauricio Dubon, You had that air over

(28:41):
at third base by Estac Perettis, and I mean, you know,
just it was not a great start out of him,
and the Astros bats were just unable to overcome that up,
you know, aside from the two runs that they put
up on the Dubon and Perettis home runs there against Useta.

Speaker 5 (29:00):
They're in the eighth inning.

Speaker 8 (29:04):
Yeah, I and I wonder, you know, and again Lake
Hunter Brown, if that game is at Dyking Park yesterday,
Astro's probably wouldn't four to three or something, you know,
So it's I'm not super concerned about about his doubting,
but yeah, the the the offense, it just you know,
I reiterate the numbers that brought up earlier, like where's
the crooked number. Where's the where's the big offensive output games?

(29:26):
You don't have to do it every night, but like,
you know, where's the occasional eight run game or ten
run game?

Speaker 9 (29:32):
They've been very few and far between this year.

Speaker 8 (29:36):
And you know it's interesting, Dan is I see you
know light and triple A ski Orme uh has a
three hit game. He's he's hitting like crazy down there.
Shay Whitcomb just keeps crushing bombs. He's got thirteen home
runs on the season. Now, you know, it's it's I
just look at some of those guys and say, maybe

(29:56):
you give one of these guys a chance to come
up and show what they can do, because I don't know,
the big league club overall just is not getting it
done right now, you know, other than eastac Paratus.

Speaker 9 (30:08):
You know, it was another over three night from l Twove.

Speaker 8 (30:11):
It's almost like, uh remember that a couple of years ago, Dan,
when game Stop had that big resurgence of a of
a spike on the stock market and then every day
you looked at it and it was just down down.

Speaker 9 (30:24):
That's how two VA's batting average in a few weeks.

Speaker 8 (30:26):
It's like it's just every day you look it gets worse,
Like it's it doesn't get better, it gets worse, and
a career three hundred hitter is now down in the
two thirty eight on the season. I just wonder why
they keep playing him like, and I get it was
a d h yesterday situation, but like the guy needs
a day off, Like I just I look at it

(30:47):
and go, he has played every game for like the
past week half.

Speaker 9 (30:51):
Give him a damn day off, and now you can
now you're going into.

Speaker 8 (30:55):
A Seattle series where you need at least the three
of an al two a bat, you know. But but
I thought Tampa series would have been a nice opportunity.
Just give all two it gay off of him, clear
as mind, and hit the reset button. But unfortunately you
just keep throwing them out there and keeps going oh
for three, oh for four, oh for three and not
breaking out of this funk.

Speaker 7 (31:13):
Yeah, six twenty nine in ops next to al Twove's
name does just not seem like that is the guy
that we know. I mean, it's almost kind of like
is there's been like an invasion of the body snatchers here?
Like did somebody take over Jose Altuve? And I mean
he just like all of a sudden just forgot how
to be able to a get on base, but be

(31:34):
be able to get on virtue a hit. I mean,
that's just it seems like all of those things are
here right now. And one of the good things you
did see in the game yesterday is Ben at SUSA.
I mean, I think it's been a quiet stalwart there
in the middle of the Astros bullpen. But I mean
even two you start to kind of worry of all
of just the great things that they've been able to

(31:56):
do here in the early part of the season and
the way that they have helped Harry this team. That
these short starts that we've seen from mccullors, from Gusto,
from mccolors again, I mean, you're able to get good
starts out of Colton Gordon and out of Brandon Walter.
That helped things out just a little bit. But then
even yesterday where you've got to go to the middle

(32:17):
part of that bullpen because you're only able to get
five innings out of Hunter Brown. Is that starting to
stack up for this team?

Speaker 9 (32:25):
Yeah?

Speaker 8 (32:25):
And on top of it, you're in the midst of
this you know, this stretch where you're playing games every
single day. You know it was seventeen straight days playing
a game. I mean you know, yeah, you had to
go to the pen yesterday, sous you got two innings
out of him. Okre pitched again.

Speaker 9 (32:41):
You know.

Speaker 8 (32:41):
Forrest Whitley made his you know, his his not season debut,
but second appearance of the season after being down the
miners for almost a month, you know, rehabbing.

Speaker 9 (32:52):
But the you know, the pressure.

Speaker 8 (32:54):
Is on now, Dan when you look at see whitching tonight, Oh,
look at Lance mccullor's you and you're who can't even
get you into.

Speaker 9 (33:01):
The fifth inning?

Speaker 8 (33:03):
So you know, if i'm if I'm the the joe's bottom,
look at.

Speaker 9 (33:07):
The bullpen And by the way, who's your long relief now?
Like is it? Are you gonna go gut?

Speaker 8 (33:13):
Like if if mcculler's gets in trouble tonight's second, who
who are you going to?

Speaker 9 (33:17):
Taylor Stots gone?

Speaker 8 (33:19):
By the way, So he cleared waivers yesterday and elected
free agency over an outright assignment to trip a with
Dan Crows. So best to him. But you know, like
do you go to Gusto? Is that the guy you
go to tonight? If mccullar's struggles early and then you're
almost guaranteed to get Well, No, he's he's.

Speaker 9 (33:39):
Slaved to go Friday. So I mean, I don't know
who you would go to. Well.

Speaker 7 (33:43):
I mean, Forest Whitley is back up, but yesterday did
not really inspire much confidence out of him. As the
two thirds of an inning that he does pitch, he
gives up four walks and he also gives up the
three run homer that completely salted this thing away to
Yandi Diez. So I mean, I I mean, I don't
know if this early you would go back to him
again and try to get some innings. I mean, Sean Dubin,

(34:06):
but you just had him pitch a couple of minings
a couple of days ago. So yeah, you're you're kind
of up against it right now. I mean, it is
important to remember they are a game above five hundred,
They're only three and a half games out. But I mean,
it just kind of seems like this is a little
bit of a turning point in the season, that this
thing could either turn for the much better or that

(34:27):
it could turn for the direction that the Astros don't
want it to go.

Speaker 8 (34:32):
Well, I'm just gonna tell you we better all. I mean,
if you're the preying type. Do whatever you need to do,
hope for the best for this Ronel Blanco news, because again,
all signs point to this is not good. That he's
having elbow soreness at heading back to Houston, Like I
just you know, mostly.

Speaker 9 (34:53):
The best news you could get is that it's something
you know, I don't know.

Speaker 8 (34:58):
He's got fragments in the elbow and need to get
it cleaned up, and he's gonna miss a couple of weeks.

Speaker 9 (35:02):
Like that would be the best news you could hear.

Speaker 8 (35:04):
And again the worst news, Oh, he needs Tommy John
surgery and he shut down for the next year and
a half, you know, I mean that's and that's the
guy who's over thirty already, right, isn't he thirty one,
thirty two something like that?

Speaker 9 (35:14):
Like, yeah, he's no spring chicken.

Speaker 8 (35:16):
There's no there's no guarantee that Reno Blanco bounces back
from that and is awesome again. I mean, he was
awesome last year. He was by far one of your
best pitchers and you lose him. God man, it is
a pitching staff literally with Hunter Brown fromber Valdez and
nothing else. I don't know how you make a case
for this team to go on a playoff run, having

(35:38):
a you know, notice some of colors like having a
lean on Lance Gusto, Gordon, Brandon Walter. That's just not
that's not gonna get it done, man. And then when
you look at what the Mariners are countering with, Oh, look,
George Kirby gonna make his season debut tonight.

Speaker 9 (35:53):
Awesome.

Speaker 8 (35:54):
You know what he's done the last three seasons, Dan,
three straight seasons of of a three point three era.
George Kirby's an awesome pitcher, and he makes a season
debut against you tonight. Tomorrow it'll be Emerson Hancock. He's
got the RF six, so you can maybe get after him.
Saturday Bryan wu two sixty five. Yea, all right, and
then Sunday Luis Castillo one of the best in baseball.

Speaker 9 (36:17):
Yeah, good luck. I mean, this is this is gonna
be tough.

Speaker 7 (36:20):
Odds definitely stacked against the Astros, but they're hoping to
be able to defy said odds this weekend again as
they fire up a four game series with the Mariners.
We've talked a little bit about the offensive side of
the Stros, and I do want to get into it
a little bit more because something yesterday I saw that
was deeply concerning, and I think that it is something

(36:40):
that it's going to be, you know, something that they're
going to have to really try to overcome as the
season goes along.

Speaker 5 (36:47):
We'll discuss that here.

Speaker 7 (36:48):
It is the Sean Salisbury Show, Dan Matthews, Chris Gordyan
for Sean Triple, Emmanuel Elmore Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (36:56):
I'm a diehard man back to this, Sean Salisbury All.

Speaker 8 (37:01):
No, No, I think that's awesome. On Calvin, I mean,
longtime coming.

Speaker 7 (37:06):
Oh for sure, absolutely, especially too after a national runner
up finished this year for u of H. And you
know they put out the statement yesterday he's excited, renewed
couture is excited. Everybody over there at u of H
is excited. And it also, I guess goes to show
you that it looks like it might be a new
day over there on Colin Boulevard of saying, hey, we're

(37:27):
in the Big twelve. Now we've got that money coming in. Yes,
we will absolutely pony up for basketball. But I think
the next frontier for them is get the football program
going again.

Speaker 9 (37:39):
That's the big one.

Speaker 8 (37:40):
I mean, it's at the end of the day, it
doesn't matter what Calvin Sampson does in basketball, or what
the baseball team does or whatever. The football team has
to be good. I mean, that is the revenue generator.
And so I like Willie Fritz. I believe he's turned
this thing around. But they have to take a step
forward next year.

Speaker 7 (38:00):
Absolutely, so good stuff from you of age with Kelvin
Sampson again, a four year contract excision to keep him
as the head coach there at U of H some
one three two and two five seven ninety the number
two jump in Gordy. Yesterday the Astro struck out twelve times.
The concerning thing that I alluded to is six of

(38:20):
those were looking yesterday. And I mean I threw this
out on Twitter, and I truly believe this. You see
a lot of guys up there at the plate right
now that are thinking way too much. And that's something
that once that starts to happen, you're like, oh man,
you've got to be reacting up there.

Speaker 5 (38:37):
You cannot be overthinking.

Speaker 9 (38:41):
Yeah, no doubt.

Speaker 8 (38:42):
I mean that's that's the you know, the the big
problem with this team is, I mean, gosh, they had
what two walks yesterday when the Astros.

Speaker 9 (38:52):
Were really good.

Speaker 8 (38:53):
I mean, like you lose a power back, like lose
a power back like Tucker.

Speaker 9 (38:57):
It's it's gonna sting, it's gonna hurt.

Speaker 8 (38:59):
You know that we're gonna have some kind of a
little bit of a step back offensively.

Speaker 9 (39:03):
But where are the walks?

Speaker 8 (39:05):
Like I wish, you know, I wish they would have
more ability to you know, for all the guys not hitting,
Like if you could at least work some walks, get
some more guys on base, and and.

Speaker 9 (39:18):
Just get more opportunities.

Speaker 8 (39:19):
Because there was a stat they put out the other
day Dan that like Dasters are one of the best
in the league in terms of hitting when runners are
on when runners scoring position and runners are on base.
So I'm going, well, that's an awesome stat, but do
that more, like get more guys on if you're this
great team at hitting when gut when runners are in

(39:41):
scoring position, awesome, But like you know, it's the problem
is they'll go games where they rarely get guys in
scoring position, and so I don't know, that's the one.
That's the one metric I look at and say, I
wish they could walk a little bit more and get
some more base runners to get have RBI opportunities. But

(40:02):
I mean, how often do we look at it, Dan
and say, like, this is a team that was for
six seven eight years, was always top ten in the
league in home runs hit. And I get it, you
lose Bregman and Tucker, it was going to be a blow,
but they've been bottom ten in home runs all season long.
Like it's you can't overcome all these pitching injuries and

(40:24):
then on top of it lack of offense, lack of
scoring and lack of power. It's I mean, it's almost
a minor miracle that they're a game above five hundred.

Speaker 7 (40:35):
Still well, I mean, and it's not even the lack
of power, it's also it's the lack of you know,
the home run happening when you've got a couple of
guys on base, or you know, being able to come
through with the extra base hit to bring home those
guys but still give yourself an opportunity for more. Those
are things that we used to see out of this group.
And you know, I just I think another part of

(40:57):
all of this is Gordy. I might be all the
way out on Brendan Rodgers, now, I mean just he
had the most non competitive at bats I think I've
ever seen in my entire life yesterday.

Speaker 9 (41:09):
Yeah, I was.

Speaker 8 (41:10):
Gonna say all this stuff I've been out on him.
He needs to he needs to go. I mean that's
been a topic of discussion on you know, Asks, Twitter
and everything else the last week or two.

Speaker 9 (41:21):
It's like, when is going to be his last day
with the Astros?

Speaker 8 (41:25):
Like and I don't know, if you know, could Shay
Whitcombe play some there? I mean he seems like a
little bit of a utility infielder. I just look at
the fact, you know, east ok paratus with the Homers
yesterday is now you know, I got ten home runs
on the season. For you, he's your first double digit
home run guy. I don't know you know who who

(41:45):
had that on their Bengo car card. But I keep
looking at what Chay Whitcomb's doing in Triple A and
I get it, it's it's Triple A.

Speaker 9 (41:51):
But kids got thirteen home runs. I see.

Speaker 8 (41:54):
I look at and say, give him another opportunity to
here and show we can do now might be asking
a lot a light up that could include Cam Smith,
Zach Dezenzo, and Shay Witcombe on any given day. But again,
like I'd almost rather give some of those at bats
to the Zenzo and Shay Witcombe as opposed to Brendan
Rodgers going up there and just whiffing for sure.

Speaker 7 (42:15):
And the Astro is only able to muster up four
runs yesterday as the Rays were able to put up
eight of them and said you lose the series.

Speaker 5 (42:23):
So that's how things go on that front.

Speaker 7 (42:26):
But we can continue the Astros conversation if you want
seven one three two one two five seven ninety once
again at seven one three, two one two five seven
nine zero. Some of the positives though when it comes
to the Astros, we'll discuss those as we start the
seven o'clock hour here on the Sean Salisbury Show Sports
Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 5 (42:46):
Salsbury O y Salbury House.

Speaker 2 (42:51):
Did okay, let's do this, Sean Salisbury.

Speaker 3 (42:56):
To usc Troupes, longtime friend Sewn Salisbury.

Speaker 2 (42:59):
Dan Matthew, excuseesus. This is the Sean sALS Very Show.

Speaker 7 (43:08):
Astros dropped two out of three to the Rays falling
yesterday eighty four. They're in Tampa, the Mariners in town
for four to get things going renewe Blanco, though sent
back to Houston yesterday with soreness in his elbow checked
out by doctors. We're expected to talk with Astros general
manager Dana Brown coming up at nine to thirty, and

(43:29):
the tush push is going to stay. Ten teams vote
to keep it. Texans, we're not one of those teams.
We'll get into a little bit of NFL later on
in this hour, as we had a lot of news
come down yesterday from the meetings that were held here
over the past couple of days. But we are talking
the Astros right now, and Gordy, we've focused a lot

(43:51):
on the negative, but let me go ahead and give
you some positives when it comes to the Astros, especially
coming back to Dykin Park. I understand they're facing a
really good pitching staff. We'll see how far out George
Kirby is stretched tonight. Again it's his first start of
the season. You would probably have to guess that the
ceiling for him is about five innings tonight. So then

(44:11):
you could maybe get into a little bit of that
Mariner's bullpen that has been susceptible to giving up some runs,
and the Astros have been able to score runs late
in games, so maybe that is something that could possibly
help you out. But the Astros this year at home,
they're fifteen to nine. They're ten to fifteen away from home.
A couple of the guys that have been wearing these
struggles for the most part this year for the Astros

(44:33):
have hits much better on their home field two thirty
eight with a seven to forty OPS for Christian Walker
at dyke In Park this year, three of his home
runs coming at Dyke and Park as well as thirteen
runs batted in. And then you get to Yaner Diaz
who is two fifty nine with a six seventy two
OPS on the home field at two home runs and

(44:54):
sixteen runs batted in. So it does seem like that
coming back to Dyke and Park has has usually been
the elixir that this team has needed in order to
get things going in a positive direction.

Speaker 8 (45:06):
Yeah, I mean they've they've played well at home, so
you know that's that's your hope. Here is that last
time you were at home, you won what a series
against the Angels, a series against the Padres, you swept
the Blue Jays, you won two out of three against
the Tigers, you won two out of three against the Reds,
and two out of three against the Royal.

Speaker 9 (45:27):
So you've been a much better team at home. But
you're right.

Speaker 8 (45:31):
I mean, maybe that is the positive to look at.
With George Kirby on the other end, and maybe he
doesn't go very deep tonight, but you know, countering him
as the guy who doesn't go very deep period, that's
Lance mccolors. The hope that we're focused on positives. The
hope is that mccullor's builds off of his last outing.
He went what four innings tonight, If he can give

(45:54):
you five innings of two run ball, that would be
a huge win.

Speaker 9 (45:58):
I would absolutely tick that from Lance tonight.

Speaker 8 (46:00):
So it's all about control, it's all about him hitting
his own limiting walks and and that sort of thing.
But that would be a huge plus. If you could
get five innings out of the Colors, I feel pretty good,
Especially like if they get five plus out of the
Colors tonight and they win the game, then you're already
had a schedule and then you're then you're literally asking,
then we only need to win one of the next

(46:21):
three against the Mariners to you know, to keep this thing,
you know.

Speaker 9 (46:25):
From getting out of hand. So yeah, I'm with you.

Speaker 8 (46:28):
I mean, it is it's easy to harp on the negatives,
and there's a lot of negatives right now with the Astros.
But yeah, you're coming back home for one of your
longest home stands of the season. Four against Seattle, two
against the A's, four against Tampa. This is uh, this
is certainly one where you have to be about five
hundred on this home stand.

Speaker 7 (46:44):
See. That's one of those though where I get a
little greedy, like if you win tonight, I'm like get
two more here, like like gain some ground here, find
find a way to be able to get out of
this series of saying, Okay, hey, we're back on track.
We feel much better, and you know, nat and now
we know that this is truly a race, But you know,
a splits. I feel like that's the minimum you can do,

(47:05):
if you do anything less than a split than it
probably is with the injuries to the other pitchers, the
news with Renelle Blanco, at least.

Speaker 5 (47:13):
For what we know right now. Maybe we'll know a
little bit more here in a couple and a half hours.

Speaker 7 (47:17):
But if you do anything less than that, then I
think you kind of start to worry about is this
thing attainable for us?

Speaker 8 (47:27):
Well, help me out with my lsu math here if
they if they do take three out of four against
the Mariners, this three and a half game deficit goes
down to a game and.

Speaker 7 (47:36):
A half, right, mm hmm yeah, because they would have
the two game advantage in the series for sure.

Speaker 9 (47:41):
Yeah. So hey, shout out to the Yankees by the
way too.

Speaker 8 (47:44):
They walked it off against the Rangers yesterday, so that
was good to see.

Speaker 9 (47:49):
And the Rangers have now lost three in a row.

Speaker 8 (47:51):
But well keep it on those Angels many they've won
six in a row now, like they're not.

Speaker 9 (47:57):
Going away that.

Speaker 8 (47:58):
You know, we thought that they were going to be
dead man walking and then lo and behold, the A's
have done what we all expected. They were hot the
first month of the season. Congrats, A's, you look good.
And now they've lost eight in a row. They've lost
nine of their last ten. Dance, so the A's are
falling into place where they should be. But yeah, man,
this is again, this is just an important series from

(48:21):
a standpoint of If you go out there and you
get swept in a four game set by the Mariners,
this thing goes to suddenly you're seven and a half
games back in the West.

Speaker 7 (48:31):
Yeah, it's not a place that you want to be
and you know, just to continue on the positive you
know thought process here with the astros is. Even though
the last couple of days did not go the way
that you had hoped, you didn't have to use Brian King,
you didn't have to use Brian to break, You did
not have to use Josh Hater and O guess what,
there's light at the end of the tunnel because you
have that much needed off day coming up on Monday

(48:53):
that you feel like, if you're Joe Aspata that maybe
one of these games, if you are in position that's
an inning and a half, you know, an inning and
a half inning in a in a third inning and
two thirds out of Brian King, same deal out of
Brian to Bray, you you know, either Tomorrow night's game
or you know, Saturday's game, either of those games that
you feel like you might need to stretch those guys

(49:13):
out a little bit more.

Speaker 5 (49:15):
You feel like you can. And guess what, those three
have been really good for you.

Speaker 9 (49:20):
Now.

Speaker 8 (49:20):
The whole bullpen has has been nailed so far this year,
and that's that's a little bit of the scary part
because Josh Hater has been awesome. Briana Bray has been awesome,
and it worries you from a little bit of a
standpoint of they're gonna, you know, they're gonna be do
some you know, some games where they're not you know
what I mean, Like that's you know, the hater. Hater
has been incredible, so you know, isn't there gonna be

(49:42):
a game where he just doesn't have his best stuff
and blows it, blows a save or something like that.

Speaker 9 (49:47):
But again we're trying to focus on the positives here.

Speaker 8 (49:51):
But overall, yes, the bullpen has been outstanding, and that's
where I think you got to give a little bit
of a hat tip to to DAYA and in this
organization as well, and that you know, they they've made
some tough decisions.

Speaker 9 (50:02):
They moved on from Ryan Presley.

Speaker 8 (50:04):
They you know, they you know, went out and spent
all that money on Josh Hater and he was not
good at the start of last season and then settled
in but finding a Brian King, finding a Bennett Susa,
getting you know, Caleb Board. I know he went right
the other night, but still two seventy era in the season.
Steven Oker has been pretty reliable this season. So they've
done a good job of letting guys go and then

(50:26):
replacing them with guys that are even better. I mean,
Rafael Montero, you got rid of his dead weight. This
is a pretty good bullpen overall.

Speaker 5 (50:35):
Yep.

Speaker 7 (50:35):
And you hope that they're able to continue being that group.
I mean especially this weekend because you mentioned it. You
get Lance mccullor is going Tonight's years slated to have
Ryan Gusto go Tomorrow night. The rest of the series
for the Astros breaks down by having on Saturday, You're
gonna go fromer Valdez, who again has been really good

(50:56):
for you, and then Sunday to close things out before
you had into the off day on Monday. Still to
be determined, but I would probably have to guess that
is a return of Colton Gordon for that one.

Speaker 8 (51:10):
Yeah, you're you're probably right with with expected to go
tomorrow night will be Gusto. So if it's Ryan Gusto Friday,
then Sunday unless they want to go back to Brandon Walter.
I mean, you know that, and maybe that's the answer
to who's your long relief guy, you know, out of
the pen, if you had to go to one, you know,

(51:30):
maybe you know, if you get into some trouble this weekend.
Maybe Colton Gordon could be the option, or Brandon Walter
with with what he gave the other night. But one
of those two guys is gonna go Sunday, and then
you finally, you know, see the finish line, and you
get an off day on Monday to rest this thing up.
And that's where I say, like, at minimum, if you
could just go to and too, at least with Seattle

(51:52):
split with them, you get the off day Monday, you
catch your breath, you would still be a game about
five hundred, and then you get ready for the rest
of this the rest of this Homestand but yeah, man,
I mean it's to reiterate when I said last hour,
like right now, you're your current five man rotation with
Ronald Blanco out and you know out and definitely we'll

(52:12):
we'll get an update on him, hopefully later today, but
if it is Tommy John and he's gonna miss the
rest of the year to add him to the mix
with Hayden was Nesky, and your your five man of
pat right now is Hunter Brown one from Burveldez two
West mccullar's junior at three with an ERA of seven
eighty eight.

Speaker 9 (52:33):
Ryan Gusto is your four, Colton Gordon is your five,
and Brandon Walter is your six. Man Like that is
that is rough?

Speaker 8 (52:43):
And again I need I haven't heard any updates lately
on Spencer or Getty. I would like one, could I
please if they're gonna do that today, Dan, Like, if
they're gonna deliver the news. If Dana meets with the
media and goes, yeah, you know, uh, we're here to
announce ren o'blanco he's out for the rest of the year.
He's gonna have Tommy John, I would like him to
immediately go, hey, but some good news is Spence Sarroghetty
start throwing a baseball? Like I want I want that news.

(53:05):
If if we're going to deliver the bad news, I
want to hopefully some kind of positive update on Araghetty.

Speaker 7 (53:10):
Yeah, and we will hopefully get some answers here in
a couple of hours when Dana joins us for his
weekly visit here on the Sean Salisbury Show. But I mean,
I'm with you on Araghetty because it has been kind
of odd to be this radio silence of you know it. Obviously,
if he's not throwing or doing anything like that, then
we get it, there's nothing to report, but I mean,

(53:31):
you would like to at least be able to hear
that he's throwing. And this is something that you know,
me and Ari discussed a couple of days ago. I mean,
you know, what exactly does throwing mean? I mean, of course,
you know he's doing flat ground. Sure, maybe a little
bit of long toss to try to build the arm
strength back up again. Great, But then I mean you've
got to believe he's got to try to get feel
for his pitches again, be able to know that he

(53:52):
can throw them.

Speaker 5 (53:53):
And then the longevity of it all.

Speaker 7 (53:55):
I mean, because you got to remember that process to
build up just to even get into the season. That's
you know, spring training outings, that's side sessions, that's all
of those other things. It kind of feels like Gordy
with this layoff here that he's probably i would say
conservatively a month and a half away from being able
to come back if he starts throwing this weekend.

Speaker 10 (54:17):
Right.

Speaker 9 (54:18):
No, that's that's the thing.

Speaker 8 (54:19):
I mean, you look at the timeline, Dan in July
thirteenth is the All Star break. I almost look at
it as I mean that that would probably be around
the time if Arrogetti starts, you know, just starts picking
up a baseball this week, like it's on his throwing hand.
So it's not just you know, here's here's what's gonna start.
First is just some some tossing the ball around, then

(54:42):
some long toss. Then you know, throwing off flat ground,
working up that intensity, building beck back up that you know,
the speed, then throwing off a mound.

Speaker 9 (54:55):
You know, it's like there's so many steps here that he's.

Speaker 8 (54:58):
Gonna have to overcome to eventually get And then you're
talking to minor league rehab starts and so yeah, I mean,
you know, I know they haven't put a timeline on this,
but you start to do the timeline in your head.
You're looking at probably around All Star break, you know,
post All Star break for him. Now, the hope is
maybe maybe he gets some kind of progress on Luis

(55:19):
Garcia and JP Frantz as well. You know, I again
haven't really heard updates on them either, but I've talked
to JP at spring training and you know, I said,
I said, give me, just like I said, I know
you're not a medical expertise, but give me just a
ballpark of when you think you'll be back, And I
want to say he said.

Speaker 9 (55:37):
Around All Star break is what he thought. But that
was you know, that was in whatever February.

Speaker 8 (55:42):
So again, just with these injuries, with with losing was Nesky, Okay,
it sucks because.

Speaker 9 (55:49):
He was, you know, to be relied on as one
of your top five guys this season. But you lose
if you lose Ronel Blanco two man, You're you're looking.

Speaker 8 (55:58):
At those three injured guys in Arragetty gar See in
France and saying, guys, we need you back as soon
as possible.

Speaker 7 (56:03):
Positives, Gordy, We're thinking positives. That's that's what we're bringing
here on the show on a Thursday. We're trying to
put that good, positive energy out there and hopefully it
is able to yield some good news for the Astros,
especially entering into a tough series here against the Mariners.
Someone three two, one, two, five, seven ninety is the
number to get in. But Gordy, let's take a slight

(56:24):
break away from the Astros discussion, because a voice from
our childhood is going to be giving advice. Is there
anybody else that we would like to hear from. We'll
discuss right here. It is a Sean Salisbury Show, Sports
Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (56:41):
This is the Sean Salisbury Show.

Speaker 5 (56:43):
Are you not at the time?

Speaker 10 (56:45):
Un Let's begin now?

Speaker 2 (56:47):
Alcohol?

Speaker 5 (56:49):
Oh yeah, Gat.

Speaker 2 (56:52):
On Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 5 (56:58):
All right, Sean, what are you hearing now?

Speaker 10 (57:00):
There?

Speaker 13 (57:00):
Now the Salisbury's takeouts, Salsbury's takeout on the Sean Salisbury Show.

Speaker 7 (57:09):
It is Sean Salisbury Show, Sports Talk seventy ninety. Dan Matthews,
Chris Gordian for Sean triple. Emmanuel Elmore. Astros drop two
of three to the Rays, losing yesterday eight to four.
There to close out things in Tampa. Renel Blanco back
here in Houston being checked on by doctors for his
sore elbow. The Pacers able to come back, force overtime

(57:31):
and beat the Knicks in New York to take Game
one of the Eastern Conference Finals. Gordi, it is commencement season,
and you are a proud Rummel graduates. You are a
proud LSU graduates. So you have been through commencement numerous times.
Did either of those schools have a commencement speaker that

(57:53):
you still remember, either through notoriety or through things that
they said to you.

Speaker 8 (58:00):
School graduation? I don't remember college graduation. We had the
governor of Louisiana.

Speaker 9 (58:04):
You talk about the biggest dud of a speaker, like
I see these colleges.

Speaker 8 (58:09):
All they had Jerry Seinfeld. We had a politician fantastic.

Speaker 7 (58:14):
That was that, Bobby jendall time. I think, so, okay,
all right, so I'm guessing his words, you know, of
encouragement to you the graduates was not something that you
came away from saying, you know what, I'm fired up.
I don't have the anxiety anymore of colleges over the
days of endless partying, and I don't really feel like

(58:35):
going the class. I'm still kind of hungover. You can't
do that once you get into the real world. But
you know, being able to alleviate some of those concerns,
I'm guessing did not happen for you. Okay, that's all good.
Were you aware that University of Maryland is going to
have their graduation tonight? That's not necessarily the story of it.
The story of it is who their commencement speaker is

(58:55):
going to be. It is going to be none other
than Kermit the Frog.

Speaker 9 (59:04):
That's a little ridiculous, it could be, but I mean.

Speaker 5 (59:08):
You know, Kermit was a voice of our childhood.

Speaker 7 (59:11):
He also was somebody that's you know, taught us lessons
and sang to us and did all those things when
he was part of the Muppets, and I guess still
is part of the Muppets. But it does look like
though from our friends at OutKick, that he has delivered
a commencement before, and it was back in nineteen ninety
six at Southampton College. But the connection here with the

(59:33):
University of Maryland is that Jim Henson, the creator of
the Muppets, was a Maryland graduate, or at least went
to Maryland.

Speaker 9 (59:45):
At school. I think they. I mean, I don't know
for me that that's is he gonna sing a song
like is he? Or is he just gonna give like
motivational speech.

Speaker 7 (59:56):
I mean, I would probably have to guess it's going
to be a little bit of both. I mean, you know,
giving a commencement speech. You do have those who will
do the you know, hey, you know, brush your teeth
every single day, make your bed, do all the things
that you might seem like, you know, are small things
to you, but they add up to overall success in
your life. For yes, maybe you will have you know,

(01:00:17):
the people who go the comedic route, like not so
much comedic route, but I do know, for example, that
Taylor Sheridan just gave the commencement at University of Texas.
We have had Matthew McConaughey give it at University of
Houston before, and he kind of went like almost Tony
Robbins style, like he brought out a stool, he had
the Britney Spears style, like you know, wearable microphone there

(01:00:41):
to kind of be able to walk the stage and
do all the things that a unusual approach from a
commencement speaker, because yes, for the most part, we have
the stodgy, you know speeches where they've got the same
little robe garbs that all of the faculty and administration
that are up there have and you know they stand
behind the podium the entire time and give those speeches.

Speaker 5 (01:01:03):
But in his case, he took it a little bit differently.

Speaker 7 (01:01:06):
And then we also had Arnold Schwarzenegger who gave the
speech there and started it off with whose house.

Speaker 9 (01:01:18):
I just need?

Speaker 8 (01:01:19):
What I need from my comments speaker is a realistic
take on you know, like you're not gonna make six
figures right out of college because there's so many Some
of these kids I talk to nowadays that are twenty one,
twenty two years old, you just have such unrealistic expectations
like Yeah, I'm gonna come right out of college. I'm

(01:01:40):
gonna have a job right out of college. It's gonna
be full time benefits. Uh, it's gonna be six figures.
Like okay, Like what is this delusional world that they've created?
And then like influencers have changed it all too. I
mean like they're literally kids in college who were social
media influencers with hundreds of thousands of followers, was making

(01:02:01):
you know, a couple grand a month off just that.
But to me, that's like any commencement speech should be,
like have realistic expectations entering the real world.

Speaker 7 (01:02:10):
And you, being a person who is in the hiring capacity,
I'm guessing that you probably are speaking on general experience
of kids that have come here and talked with you,
and you're like, yeah, that's not how this works.

Speaker 8 (01:02:23):
Yeah, there's nothing funnier than getting turned down. But like, hey,
we have this job, would you like this job? You're
unemployed and the kid turning it down because no, it's
not enough money to me. For me, I would rather
be unemployed.

Speaker 7 (01:02:36):
Okay, fair enough, all right, so you know the kind
of close this thing out is OutKick our good buddies
over there. They put out the story of course, with
Kermit speaking at the commencement. So then their question was,
here are the next muppets that we need to take
a podium for a commencement. The first one they had

(01:02:57):
was Fozzy Bear, would you be up or Fozzy Bear
at the podium?

Speaker 5 (01:03:02):
Waka' wacka waka. You're not going to get a full
time out of college?

Speaker 9 (01:03:08):
Like, what is this about? Muppet?

Speaker 10 (01:03:09):
Like?

Speaker 9 (01:03:09):
Why do we have to have muppets and puppets as
commencement speakers?

Speaker 5 (01:03:13):
I mean, I think it kind of lightens the mood
a little bit. But you know it's also.

Speaker 7 (01:03:18):
It's it's again a voice and a character from our
childhood that we remember teaching us life lessons.

Speaker 5 (01:03:25):
So I mean, I'm good with the Muppets.

Speaker 7 (01:03:27):
I mean, look, it doesn't even have to just be
a Muppet to our puppets or any other type of
you know, childhood character. I mean it can kind of
be anybody. I mean, I throughout Matthew McConaughey. We know
we've got others that we would be willing to listen
to advice from.

Speaker 9 (01:03:44):
I guess I just.

Speaker 8 (01:03:45):
There's to me, it's the most It's it's the dumbest
thing that you will never remember. Like does anybody remember
their valedictorian speech in high school?

Speaker 10 (01:03:54):
No?

Speaker 9 (01:03:55):
Like, and same thing with the commencement speaker in college.

Speaker 5 (01:03:58):
Well, they go further.

Speaker 7 (01:04:00):
Statler and Waldorf, I would absolutely love that janis the
guitarist from Doctor Teeth and the Electric Mayhem, uh Miss Piggy,
which if you're gonna have Kermit, then of course you
gotta have Miss Piggy.

Speaker 5 (01:04:12):
Sam eagle Beaker.

Speaker 7 (01:04:15):
That would be kind of tough to understand, and then
even more tough to understand the sweetish chef.

Speaker 5 (01:04:25):
I'm out of all those, ah Man, I would be.

Speaker 7 (01:04:29):
For Statler and Waldorf because I feel like kind of,
you know, the harsh realities of adulthood and everything that
you would have to have that Like last night, I,
you know, spent time with my nieces and one of
them was like, I'm seven, I can't do anything. And
I looked at her and I said, stay seven as
long as you can trust me. And I was trying
to be able to convey it to her where she

(01:04:49):
can understand it with a seven year old brain of
being a kid as awesome once you get become an adult.
When you're a kid, you think like you know, oh, hey,
you know, being an adult on my own paying for
my my own things, all have money, Like you know,
these are all awesome things. You have to also realize
that with being an adult there's the other parts of it.
Oh there's bills. Oh I have to have my car fixed.

(01:05:11):
Oh there's nobody that's going to pay for that for me. Yeah,
that sucks, was.

Speaker 9 (01:05:17):
The old Billy Madison. Stay here, stay as long as
you can.

Speaker 7 (01:05:22):
That's true. I mean I think at the time, what
was it there in third grade? So she's not too
far from that. But maybe if she drops that on
me again, I'll do like what Billy did when he
went back and saw Miss Veronica Vaughan's class. I mean,
you know, he moved on and then he realized he
wasn't as cool in high school the second time around.
You know, loser, I'm not a loser. I used to

(01:05:43):
run this place. You guys are losers.

Speaker 9 (01:05:48):
Well I'll tell you this. You're a loser. If Elmo
or Kermit or doing your commencement speech.

Speaker 7 (01:05:55):
H Well, hopefully he is able to drop some good
wisdom on the grind graduates of the University of Maryland.
And I would say again, I would go Statler and
Waldorf and then a second on that list. I wouldn't
mind hearing what Fozzy Bear had to say. But we
shall see how it goes there in College Park. All right,
coming up, let's get into a little bit of NFL

(01:06:16):
because has this jumped the shark when it comes to
the NFL. We'll discuss it all right here. It is
a Sean Salisbury Show Sports Talk seven ninety. The Sean
Salisbury Show continued, says, the tush push stays, and we'll
get into that a little bit more here as the

(01:06:38):
show goes along. But Gordy hard Knocks, it's one of
those things that has kind of become part of the
NFL off season, and they've even taken it to another level.
Like last year we got three different incarnations of Hard Knocks.
We had the off season version where it followed around
the Giants, and it seemed like that was probably the

(01:06:59):
most beneficial of the ones that are out there because
you got to see the draft process following the scouts
to Pro Days, and just everything that goes into these
discussions where you've got Joe Shane, the GM of the Giants,
with his kids in his office and asking his kids, Hey,
who would you take? And I think one of them
said Melik Neighbors and of course, well, you know, they

(01:07:20):
end up taking Melik Neighbors. And I think one of
them said Cam Scataboo this year, and they end up
taking Camp Scataboo on day three. But of course, I
mean the thing that everybody remembers from that version was
owner John Merra in Joe Shane's office of seeing I
don't know if I could sleep at night with, you know,

(01:07:41):
with Saquon Barkley on the Philadelphia Eagles, and then Saquon
Barkley was on the Philadelphia Eagles. But it was just
kind of that transparency that I think scared teams away
from saying yes to the off season version of it.
So now we get to at this point where yesterday
it's announced the Buffalo Bills.

Speaker 5 (01:07:58):
Will be the training camp version of it.

Speaker 7 (01:08:00):
The in season version, who last year was the AFC
North is going to be the NFC East this year.

Speaker 9 (01:08:12):
Are you talking about with the Bills.

Speaker 7 (01:08:14):
Yeah, So the Bills are going to be the training
camp version of it, and then the in season version
again is going to be the Eagles, Commanders, Cowboys and Giants.

Speaker 8 (01:08:23):
Well, I could be honest, I haven't watched any of
the in season Hard Knocks. It used to be appointment
setting TV for me to watch Hard Knocks every every summer.
But Dude, the last couple of season, it's it's gotten boring,
Like it just is. I mean, I don't know how
you make it more compelling. You know, they do a

(01:08:44):
whole episode featured on a on a dude who's an
undrafted rookie who ends up getting cut. You know, it's like,
it's just I don't know how you make it the
more compelling. But like the Bills, Look, Josh Allen's a
star in the league, but I don't know is he
super entertaining my opinion? I mean, who's like the biggest
personalities on the Buffalo Bills that are gonna make like

(01:09:04):
make you want to oh my god, this is musty TV.

Speaker 5 (01:09:07):
Like Keon Coleman, no doubt about it.

Speaker 9 (01:09:13):
Yeah, I guess, But I just it lost its value
to me.

Speaker 8 (01:09:17):
I mean the look, the my favorite season still is
the one that was here that we were kind of
a part of getting to watched Bill O'Brien and the and.

Speaker 9 (01:09:25):
The Texans and all that.

Speaker 8 (01:09:26):
But you know, the one that would have been more
compelling to me was the Denver Broncos and Sean Payton.

Speaker 9 (01:09:32):
I don't know what it is. I heard this when
they were New Orleans.

Speaker 8 (01:09:34):
He did everything he could to get out of the
Saints being on hard docks when he was there, and
then and now it looks like he's doing the same
thing in Denver. He's they're trying to do everything he
can to keep the cameras out. But I don't know
even the coaching staff in Buffalo. I mean, maybe can
we get isn't Sean McDermott the one that was like
a nine to eleven truther or something like, maybe they

(01:09:56):
can get some compelling conspiracy of him. But I don't know, man,
It's just maybe I'm.

Speaker 9 (01:10:03):
Alone on this. I'm curious what the listeners would say.

Speaker 8 (01:10:04):
But like I just Hard Knocks is not what it
used to be to me, Like, it's not it's not
compelling must CTV. And And to be honest, maybe the
last one I really enjoyed was the Cowboys one because
it showed what a psychopath Jerry Jones is pouring salt
onto his McDonald's you know breakfast biscuit like that.

Speaker 9 (01:10:22):
That was that was pretty compelling.

Speaker 8 (01:10:24):
But I don't know, man, the Hard Knocks thing is
just it's not as entertaining to me as used to be.

Speaker 7 (01:10:29):
Well, I mean, the true marketer that Jerry is he
used where you know how when they're rolling the credits
at the end of episodes and they'll show either a
player talking to family or talking to a coach or whatever,
it is like it's not necessarily outtakes, but it's just
kind of like, you know, added footage that didn't necessarily
make that show. And Jerry was talking about his love

(01:10:50):
of water Burger. I do remember that, and he did
say something that I can relate to, where he was like,
I love you know, you go to Waterberg, you get
it from the drive through, you leave it in the
bag a little bit to kind of you know, let
it get not soggy, but like just kind of like
you know, let that steam kind.

Speaker 5 (01:11:08):
Of built up in there. And I was like, I
love that too.

Speaker 7 (01:11:11):
And then soon enough after that, Waterburger started a sponsorship
with the Dallas Cowboys and A huge reason for that
was what Jerry said during that episode.

Speaker 9 (01:11:21):
I don't remember that. That's that's pretty uh, that's pretty interesting.

Speaker 8 (01:11:25):
But yeah, again, the one I just remember is to
egg McMuffin and him putting salt like that thing is
the saltiest.

Speaker 9 (01:11:32):
Thing already, And he grabs a salt chicken and he's
pouring salt on it.

Speaker 8 (01:11:35):
Everybody's like, what kind of maniac is Jerry Jones, Like, dude,
what's your cholesterol level?

Speaker 9 (01:11:41):
If you have to add salt to your breakfast?

Speaker 7 (01:11:44):
Statics for McDonald's, well, I mean, I think Jerry has been,
you know, defying the odds for some time, and of course,
you know, the cosmetic surgery aside, Jerry definitely finds a
way to keep things going. But I agree with you
overall with just the show, as I mean, because it's
the same storyline every single year. It's the coach at

(01:12:05):
the front of the room for the first meeting, and
you know, given the you know we're gonna compete, We're
a tough football team. All of these different things in
the For the most part I think that most people,
you know, we can't get enough football, you know, all
the football. We need it all sure, fine, But I mean,
for the most part, though, can we agree Gordy that

(01:12:26):
the overall everything that goes into the games is the
boring part. And frankly for us who are here in
the business, it's the boring. It's it's the annoying part.
Annoying from everybody has the same sayings, everybody says the
exact same things. I'm just trying to be better today
than I was yesterday. Thanks keep saying that, and you're
gonna keep me engaged as a viewer. I'm definitely in.

Speaker 9 (01:12:50):
Yeah, it's it's by the way, what happened to the.

Speaker 8 (01:12:54):
Requirement I thought it used to be you had to
be a team that didn't make the playoffs and all that,
and the Bills and the Broncos they both mad playoff
runs last year.

Speaker 7 (01:13:02):
Yeah, I mean, just because I think to the point
that you even brought up, I mean, you know, it's
getting to where teams I think feel like that this
can give an advantage to other teams of being able
to see them in practice. But it's also the thing
that I think that the you know, league has to
remind them of is guys, it's NFL films, Like these
people know how you operate, they know what you want

(01:13:25):
to guard against. They're not going to give out any
information that you don't want out there. The only time
that I can remember anything got out that was not
supposed to be was Ryan Tannehill's personal information when he
showed up to sign his contract with the Miami Dolphins.

Speaker 9 (01:13:43):
Yeah. I almost think, you know what they should do?
Make it.

Speaker 8 (01:13:47):
Yeah, And when the Texans were on a Bill O'Brien
was you know, we got to see he was running
like a college program still behind the scenes.

Speaker 9 (01:13:55):
He was like, you know, this is all you talked
to the media. I'm going to be a great teammate.

Speaker 10 (01:13:59):
You know.

Speaker 8 (01:13:59):
It's like, dude, it was so elementary, like you could
see where the players are like, this is absolutely ridiculous.
But to me, like I don't, like, if I'm Goodell
and I'm the NFL, you know what I would do
to change this. The team that wins the Super Bowl,
you get hard knocks next summer.

Speaker 9 (01:14:14):
Like the Eagles.

Speaker 8 (01:14:15):
We wouldn't want to see behind the scenes of the
Eagles like that to me is the most compelling. Show
me what this team just did to win the Super
Bowl and like, you know, they're guaranteed to have some stars.
They're guaranteed to have compelling players. Like, to me, that's
that that's the one you should do. You win the
super Bowl, you get hard.

Speaker 7 (01:14:32):
Knocks, or even better, how about the team that loses
in the super Bowl you get hard knocks, because then
it's the sure like can you imagine, you know, twenty
eight to three, And they did the Falcons the following year, which,
my god, that if you want to talk about somebody,
for all of the other things that I told you
were annoying of the same sayings and and everything else,

(01:14:54):
you would have been absolutely wanting to jump out the
nearest window by hearing Dan Quinn with all of his
greeting card sayings.

Speaker 9 (01:15:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (01:15:05):
I also think the New York Giants would have been
a lot of fun too, just to see that loaded
quarterback room. I mean, they take they trade up in
the first to go take Jackson Dart with the expectation
that he's not even gonna play both with Russell Wilson,
Jamis Winston and Tommy DeVito with Jackson Dart, Like, the
Giants are the one that should have been featured.

Speaker 9 (01:15:27):
Yep.

Speaker 7 (01:15:27):
So we're gonna get the bills and we will get
the NFC East, so you will still get Jerry Jones
and the Cowboys in season and we will see how
it all plays out on our TV screens this summer
and fall. All right, coming up, Let's get back into
baseball a little bit. Because one group says goodbye, another
group might be saying hello. We'll discuss that here. It

(01:15:48):
is the Sean Salisbury Show, Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 5 (01:15:53):
Let the celebration start more.

Speaker 7 (01:15:55):
Sean Salsbury on Sports Talk seven ninety, Gordy, we are
saying goodbye to the NBA on TNT, and it looks
like we're gonna be doing the same with Major League
Baseball on ESPN. But can I interest you in Sunday
Night Baseball on NBC Peacock.

Speaker 9 (01:16:18):
Sunday Baseball on Peacock. Is that being talked about?

Speaker 7 (01:16:23):
Yes, it is according to the Wall Street Journal. So,
as I mentioned, with the rights going away from ESPN,
the Wall Street Journals Jared Diamond and Joe Flint reporting
that NBC Universal has made an offer to take over
the same package of regular season in postseason games that
ESPN is leaving behind. If you'll remember, of course, last

(01:16:44):
year in the Wildcard Series, the Astros part of the
ESPN ABC umbrella in those games they played against the
Detroit Tigers, and then in the Divisional Series in CS
part of the postseason, and of course the World Series,
that's when the coverage went to Fox and to Turner TBS.

Speaker 9 (01:17:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (01:17:08):
I don't know, man, I just hate this whole fit. Like,
and I'm still a cable subscriber.

Speaker 9 (01:17:15):
I'm not.

Speaker 8 (01:17:15):
All my buddies have cut the corn and all this,
but like, dude, it's becoming so hard to find stuff now.

Speaker 9 (01:17:21):
I mean the fact we go back to the Astros weekend.

Speaker 8 (01:17:25):
Last weekend, I mean Thursday night was I think was
still in Space City, but it was an MLB Network game.

Speaker 9 (01:17:30):
Friday Night was an Apple.

Speaker 8 (01:17:31):
TV Plus game where that was the only place you
could find it, and then Sunday was only Roku. I mean,
fans are getting exasperated, going like where do I have
to keep going? And now we're talking about potentially next
year when the Astros are on Sundaynight Baseball.

Speaker 9 (01:17:47):
It's easy, It's ESPN.

Speaker 8 (01:17:48):
You know where to find it, Like, all right, it
could potentially be the Peacock at now you gotta have
a Peacock subscription. It's just I think we have most
of the subscription services, but I think the average household does.
I mean, it's just they're making it so hard to
find stuff now, and this whole thing about.

Speaker 9 (01:18:07):
Oh cut the cord.

Speaker 8 (01:18:08):
Yeah, but don't pay these cable companies hundreds of dollars. Well,
you're paying dummies. You're paying the hundreds of dollars to
subscribe to all these stupid services.

Speaker 7 (01:18:17):
Well, I mean, if it is on NBC peacock, you know,
part of the NBC Universal Comcast, whatever it might be,
you have to also wonder, I mean, the soon enough
NBC run into Hey where are we going to put
these things? Because there is crossover during the NBA and
Major League Baseball season. They're going to have the NBA
there's the same deal, and the the NFL season. Like,

(01:18:39):
there's no way they're going to knock Sunday Night base
or Sunday Night Football off for Sunday Night Baseball. I mean,
to your point, that happens. And say the Astros are
playing a you know, mid September series against the Mariners
and it's a crucial one and it's part of Sunday
Night Baseball, Well then all right, hey, do I have peacock,
do I have to subscribe to this now.

Speaker 5 (01:19:00):
I mean, all those things are going to come into play.

Speaker 8 (01:19:05):
Yeah, but even still, I mean, the only people that
are tuning into that is Houston fans, you know what
I mean? Like the average American is going to be
watching I don't know, Cowboys, Bills or whatever.

Speaker 9 (01:19:14):
The Sunday night Baseball Sunday Night football game is so
and that's also.

Speaker 8 (01:19:19):
Weird too, Like your your NBC, your big property is
Sunday night football. Why would you want to go head
to head unless you know. I've talked to some people
at ESPN over the years who've said, you know, because
I've been like, man, why do you showcase you know,
this college game and this college game? And they said, like,
we're we're competing with ourselves, yes, but we see it

(01:19:40):
as we're getting a huge chunk of the viewership period.
It's the same reason why they do that stupid staggered
Monday night football doubleheader. You know a couple times last
year where it's like you have this game kicking off
at six and then this game kicks off at seven thirty.
It's like, wait, why are you you have this game
on ABC and this game on ESPN? And they see
it as we're not competing with ourselves, We're going for

(01:20:02):
just a large chunk of the audience.

Speaker 9 (01:20:04):
So maybe that's the thought.

Speaker 8 (01:20:05):
If NBC does put you know, if they get Sunday
Baseball and they put on the Peacock streaming app, you're
going ahead to head with Sunday Football on NBC. But
maybe they just think, you know, you're getting a larger
chunk in the pie.

Speaker 7 (01:20:17):
It excites me from the standpoint of I feel like
NBC's game presentation is better than most of the other networks.
Like their picture is always a lot seems like it's
more clear than the others. You know, the crowd noise
is even more hyped up there. And I mean I
like the announcers they have of you know, for the
most part, Mike Turrico is kind of their go to

(01:20:39):
now and you know, you also, you know, we'll move
in Dan Hicks a little bit. I mean, he's more
on the golf side, but he's done some Notre Dame
work in the past. But I mean, there's only two
requests that I make when it comes to this, no
under any circumstance, Bob Costas like at all and please

(01:20:59):
got leave Carl Ravich at ESPN.

Speaker 8 (01:21:04):
Oh, you know, you're getting costas they if this is
if they get if Peacock yet Sunday Night Baseball, you're
getting Bob Castas you just are.

Speaker 7 (01:21:12):
I mean, is there anybody in this industry now who
has had more of a fall from not only you know,
it's not even the pink eye at the Olympics, but
that's the lasting image that people have, but just the
sanctimony and everything that that guy brings.

Speaker 5 (01:21:27):
And it's just, Bob, you've lost your fastball. Man. You're
not who you used to be.

Speaker 7 (01:21:31):
You were endearing, people trusted you, all of those things,
you know during it the NBA Finals, the Jordan years,
even you know, going through I mean at the time,
I think I feel like the Yankees were endearing they're
in the late nineties, but now, I mean we got
Yankee fatigue on that and I mean, and he was
just such a honk for them. Please God, if anybody

(01:21:52):
from NBC Universal is listening and you're gonna go through
with this, do not do that to America.

Speaker 9 (01:21:58):
Well, at least you can bet that al Michaels will
not be calling.

Speaker 8 (01:22:02):
He'll be doing the football game. Or no, he doesn't
do Sunday Baseball football anymore. Right, it's Turico, so maybe
maybe you could get out.

Speaker 7 (01:22:10):
Yeah, it's it's it's Turrico and collins Worth. I mean,
and you know when when NBC used to have it,
they used to have Tim McCarver part of it. Obviously
you're not going to have Tim McCarver around anymore. But
yesterday I heard the A teams. Yeah yeah, thanks Cordy.
But we heard the A team talking about this yesterday.
Of who wouldn't you mind on the broadcast they throw

(01:22:32):
out Joe Davis. I'll take it a step further. Ari Alexander,
who's with us. I know he's a big fan of
this guy. I think the Mets broadcast team does a
fantastic job. I think Gary Cohen would be great doing
the lead play by play for Sunday Night Baseball.

Speaker 9 (01:22:48):
I don't even know who. It's funny.

Speaker 8 (01:22:50):
I was talking to my wife about this the other day,
because you know, when they announced broadcasters, sure stuff, she goes,
I don't even know who the broadcasters are. Like that's
I think the average person does and care. And that's
the funniest thing with with Monday Football. As much as
I like Joe Bucket, Troy Aikman together. Nobody tunes into
Monday Football because it's like, oh, Man, Bucket Aikman are
on the call, Like you tune in because it's Monday Football.

(01:23:12):
It doesn't matter who's calling the game at all.

Speaker 10 (01:23:15):
Uh.

Speaker 8 (01:23:16):
The only time you ever really bring it up, like
nobody ever comes out and goes Man Bucket Aikman are
really good. You only bring it up when people are
really bad, right when you're like, god, Tony Romos really
lost his fastball calling these games now, Like you'll really
only notice when somebody's bad at it.

Speaker 9 (01:23:31):
But did you see, Just to.

Speaker 8 (01:23:34):
Kind of piggyback on this, Dan, I saw our guy
Blummer posted a video to Instagram yesterday in his hotel
in Tampa, and he kind of talked a little bit
about the Roku game on Sunday, calling it with Dave
Raymond and said, uh, yeah, you know, basically, you know,
Dave Raymond during the game, yan Air Diez is at
the plate and he keeps calling him Yondi Diez, and

(01:23:55):
he hits the home run.

Speaker 9 (01:23:55):
And even on the call says yond Diez with the
home run.

Speaker 8 (01:23:58):
Plumber said, all he did was he held up his
scorecard and pointed to the name Jan er Diez. He said,
very I did it, very subtly. I didn't call him
out on air. I didn't do it, you know, so,
but I don't know. For those who watched man, it
felt like there was a little bit of contention between
Jeff Blum and Dave Raymond there in the Roku booth,
which makes sense. It was an Astro's Rangers series and

(01:24:19):
you have the Rangers broadcaster with the Astros color guy
in there.

Speaker 9 (01:24:23):
But I liked that Blummer did that.

Speaker 8 (01:24:25):
He said, Look, I could have called him out on
the air, could have been like, dude, you got the
guy's name wrong. But he's like, I subtly just pointed
to it on the card and that was that. But
Dave Raymon did make some comments during the broadcast about like, yeah,
I'd rather be in here with anyone else to put
you or something like that.

Speaker 9 (01:24:39):
It was just very like is he joking or is
he serious?

Speaker 5 (01:24:42):
Yeah, Well, that's why we just need to have TK
doing it.

Speaker 7 (01:24:45):
Sunday Night Baseball here on Pete Cock, Jeff Blum, Todd Kallis,
Julia Morales for the Rangers and the Cubs here on
Sunday Night Baseball.

Speaker 9 (01:24:58):
You look at it, I can't do it.

Speaker 7 (01:25:00):
Blommer did drop that yesterday. No, no, you're looking at it.
So when I heard that, it warmed my heart, and
I did let him know that it warmed my heart.
All right, eight o'clock hour coming up. The astros. Still
a discussion here because the pitching, how much of it
is going to be a concern going forward, will discuss that.

Speaker 5 (01:25:19):
Here. It is the Shawn Salisbury Show, Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (01:25:24):
Kd E Houston, k t V HD two Houston. My
heart radio station.

Speaker 5 (01:25:31):
Has a rocket.

Speaker 13 (01:25:33):
This is Sports Talk seven ninety your home for your
home teams from the Parsons that Matchine Next Studios, Saulsbury.

Speaker 2 (01:25:47):
Oy Houston.

Speaker 9 (01:25:49):
Okay, let's do this.

Speaker 2 (01:25:51):
Sean Salisbury.

Speaker 3 (01:25:54):
To usc true longtime friend Shawn Salisbury.

Speaker 2 (01:25:56):
Dan Matthew, excuse, this is the Sean salves very show.

Speaker 7 (01:26:06):
Back here in Houston, meeting with doctors with elbow soreness.
I'm gonna try to get an update about him from
Dana Brown about an hour and a half from now
when he joins us for his weekly visit and the.

Speaker 5 (01:26:17):
Tush push stays.

Speaker 7 (01:26:19):
Ten teams vote to keep it in the league, the
Texans not one of those ten. We back in the
NFL conversation as the show goes along, and Gordy kind
of just to wrap up what we were just talking
about in the last segment about TV packages everything else
of the sort. I did watch the video of what
you said with Jeff Blum, and I was wondering if,

(01:26:39):
probably because Blumber is very active on social media, if
people were finally like, I can't take this anymore. Plumber, dude,
you gotta correct this guy. You've got to say something.
And you know, as you even pointed out, he did
say that he did it behind the scenes of pointing
to his scorecard and saying, hey, Bud, it's Yiner.

Speaker 5 (01:26:58):
It's not YONDI. We got to know Yan yesterday obviously.

Speaker 9 (01:27:02):
Yeah, I don't think it's I don't think that's disrespectful.

Speaker 8 (01:27:05):
I mean, as someone who's who's gass games before, you know,
high school football and that sort of thing. If you're
getting a name wrong, the listener hears it, the viewer
hears it, So I don't think there's any shame. And
if you're a play by play guy and your color
guy corrects you on getting a name wrong, no problem.
With that, I'd rather you get it right on air

(01:27:26):
than continue to keep making the mistake because you're prideful, right, Like,
I think that's a little ridiculous. Now, Look, I know
you like Dave Raymond that you know a lot of
Astros fans. We don't like him because he switched allegiances.

Speaker 9 (01:27:39):
You know, over the years.

Speaker 8 (01:27:39):
He was once calling Astors radio games as the backup
to to Milo, and you know he's been with the
Rangers now for many years and very successful.

Speaker 9 (01:27:47):
They're doing well.

Speaker 8 (01:27:47):
But I'm just I'm good on him calling, you know,
a Roku game that the Astors are on, and obviously
I was listening mostly to Steve Sparks and Robert Ford here.

Speaker 9 (01:27:56):
On seven ninety. But I don't know, man, I think
that's just one of those things like if you, if.

Speaker 8 (01:28:01):
You're enough of a diva, I guess you would say
to like be offended that your color man would correct
you for something you're doing wrong, Like, I'd rather get
it right, you saund like the idiot continue to say
YONDI di as, YONDI di as five times before you know,
and when the guy hits a home run, that call,
we can't even use that highlight You know what I mean,

(01:28:23):
like if I'm if I'm Roco, I'm going, dude, we
can't even use this.

Speaker 9 (01:28:26):
You called him the wrong name.

Speaker 8 (01:28:28):
So to me, I have no I would add no
problem if Blumber jumped in and just goes, yeah, it's yatnit.

Speaker 9 (01:28:34):
Actually, I mean there's no problem with that to me.

Speaker 5 (01:28:37):
Yeah, well dub it. I mean, you know, don't they
do that in the movies.

Speaker 7 (01:28:40):
Just go back and dub it after the fact, and
you know, just have Dave, Hey, Dave say it with
somewhat of an excitable tone of yanor Diaz going the
opposite way.

Speaker 5 (01:28:49):
But no, I'm I'm in the same camp.

Speaker 7 (01:28:52):
I know Matt Thomas just from Dave's time when he
was with the Astros Radio network that you know, we
got to know him a little bit. So I think
he's hilarious. I'm a big fan of him as a guy.
And I understand too. It is also too with.

Speaker 9 (01:29:07):
With Once you move to Arlington and you can go
root for the Rangers there.

Speaker 7 (01:29:10):
Oh well, I'm good here and the allegiances aren't going
to change. I can have friends across the aisle. But
it feels like though with team broadcasts. You know, I
always love oh, you got to be impartial. It's like, no,
you don't. You're doing the team broadcasts, like you're on
Space City Home Network. You're broadcasting to Astros fans. If
people want the impartial one, well then you're tough out

(01:29:34):
of luck because it's a regional game. But then you know,
if they're playing the Angels, go watch the Angels broadcast.
If they're playing you know, the Cardinals, go watch the
Cardinals broadcast. Then if you want those things, I just
I feel like that's an antiquated way of thinking in
terms of oh, you know they're they're openly rooting for
this team. Well they should be because they're doing the
Astros games on the Astros regional network.

Speaker 9 (01:29:58):
Yeah, who was.

Speaker 10 (01:30:01):
Man?

Speaker 8 (01:30:02):
I was trying to think of the guy with the
white Sox for years. I used to say, you know,
two to one good guys.

Speaker 5 (01:30:09):
Ohlson, Yeah it was the Hawk.

Speaker 8 (01:30:13):
I mean I remember those games would be on WGN
every now and then, like who is this home horrific guy,
like literally calling it the good guys, Like.

Speaker 7 (01:30:23):
I remembered once watching and I've told this story to Blumber.
I used to love like how he would almost his
calls were like he was talking to the player or
like he was in the stands. Like I remember watching
a game once, I think they were playing against Minnesota
or somebody like that, and Konerko hit a double and Tadahito,
Tadahito a Gucci was trying to score from first base

(01:30:45):
and you know the ball, you know that gets out
in the right center field. Come on, Tato, let's go
around third o Tato. It's just like that's part of
this call. Like it's almost kind of like you know,
obviously me and you are big SEC football fans, and
you know on the radio for years, that's what that
conference was built on, was the voices. You know, LSU fans,

(01:31:06):
it was Jim Hawthorne, Georgia fans, it was Larry Munks
and and you know Eli Gold for for Alabama games,
whoever it is that I mean, that's part of it.
Like you know, you want somebody in that booth that
you're like, hey, they're feeling the same way about my
team that I am.

Speaker 8 (01:31:22):
Well, and I think Robert Steve do a great job
of you know, when when the even when the opposing
team hits a home run, Robert Ford's like, and this
one's hit a ton and that's out of here, like
you know. But but there are some Homer calls that
will go this one said deep and yeah it's up.
I mean like they they were still like depressed that
you know that that that that somebody hit a home

(01:31:43):
run out. So oh man, I just saw I didn't.
I guess I missing this. You see Justin Verlanders heading
to the dyel with discomfort.

Speaker 5 (01:31:51):
I did not.

Speaker 7 (01:31:52):
So if the Astros had any designs of trying to
pull off the third trade for Justin Verlander, it seems
like that maybe that's going to wait a little bit.

Speaker 5 (01:32:02):
I mean, I you don't, you said, peck discomfort.

Speaker 8 (01:32:05):
That's what That's what this graphic said. Yeah, he's uh,
he's zero and three on the season. He has made
what is it, five ten starts. He is in the
area of four thirty three, so he's actually been pretty
decent in terms of v R, but has not gotten
a win with the Giants. So and it's it's almost
it's just lack of run support. I mean this this

(01:32:28):
month alone, he's had four starts where he's given up
two runs, two runs, three runs, two runs, and the
Junts have not gotten him the w in any of
those starts.

Speaker 7 (01:32:37):
Yeah, and it's a it's worth noting, as you mentioned,
if people didn't hear me enunciate well enough, peck discomfort
like pectoral not neck discomfort, because we remember last year
he had that here in Houston, and well it cost
him to miss what two and a half three months
that we were without justin Verlander last year.

Speaker 9 (01:32:57):
Yeah, what's what is peck discomfort? I mean like bench
press hold something?

Speaker 1 (01:33:02):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (01:33:02):
Maybe I mean or even too.

Speaker 7 (01:33:04):
I mean, you know, if it's on his right side,
do you know that he over extend too much and
that got the pectoral muscle involved and I don't know.
I mean, you're you're asking me to dive into when
I was a kinesiology minor to try to remember all
the ligaments and tendons being connected to each other.

Speaker 5 (01:33:21):
I'm not sure I'd be real.

Speaker 8 (01:33:23):
I mean, do you really want a forty two year
old I mean, look, we love Verlander. He will you know,
he'll be beloved here. They'll come back, He'll come back,
they'll probably retire his number or something when his when
he calls it a career and comes back to Houston
and hopefully he and Kate and the family live here
after his career is done. But no, I have no
interest and look, Destros have a diar need for pitching

(01:33:44):
right now, absolutely, but I have no want to trade
for a forty two year old that's aging and making
a good bit of money there with the giants.

Speaker 9 (01:33:54):
I'd rather find somebody if.

Speaker 8 (01:33:56):
You're gonna trade, I think it's I think it's still
super early to even be talked trade partner.

Speaker 7 (01:34:01):
For sure, you and me both, and we are hoping
that the Astros pitching staff is able to turn the
page in terms of continuing to throw. Well, we'll discuss
that with all the other storylines that are surrounding at
that part of this twenty twenty five Astros team will
do that. See a couple of you went away in
on the phone lines. You want to join them? Someone
three two one two five seven ninety you can do

(01:34:23):
that as it is the Shawn Salisbury Show, Sports Talk
seven ninety.

Speaker 11 (01:34:27):
Well, you don't need a reason to go to J
bar M Barbecue other than you like great food and
great customer service. How many of you have gone over
there on the weekend, sat out there, brought your dog

the sun starts to set me say I'm go go

(01:34:47):

Speaker 2 (01:34:50):
Ever, well, you got it.

Speaker 11 (01:34:50):
You got the Hall of Fame menu, you can order
with Joe Spot Orders, you can order with you know,
with Kelvin Sampson or Clyde drex or. They got all
that Hall of Fame menu, and the you is Hall

it's cheddarsauce, it's a jalapeno, I don't care. If it's
the sides and the potatoes, ald macacheese. They got everything

(01:35:12):
event nearby to want to go to Jbarm Barbecue. There

People are coming from far and wide to go there.
It is the best barbecue and customer service in this state.
So if you're traveling somewhere else for barbecue, stop going
into Jbarn Barbecue, whether it's the weekend or during the

(01:35:33):

The reason it's jbarn Barbecue dot com jbarn Barbecue dot com.
With the food and the customer service, you're not gonna
find it any better anywhere. Jbar m Barbecue dot com.

Speaker 7 (01:35:55):
Coach Stark here, touchdown, chuck us.

Speaker 9 (01:35:57):
You've got Sports Talk seven ninety hold of Longhorn football.
Back to the Shawn Salisbury Show.

Speaker 7 (01:36:06):
I'll I will never forget that game as long as
I live. Of I paid my tab where I was at,
and I was about to scramble my uber when then
they start to make a three, then another three, then
another one, and all of a sudden, you're kind of like,
all right, I don't want to believe that this can happen.
And then they make the three to take the lead,
and you're like, this is crazy, Like how the hell

(01:36:27):
did they just do this with Josh Smith?

Speaker 2 (01:36:29):
And who was it?

Speaker 5 (01:36:30):
Who was the other guy that kept knocking down threes
for the er?

Speaker 2 (01:36:34):
Yeah, Corey Brewer.

Speaker 7 (01:36:35):
I mean like just just being able to come back
and win that game, It's just I don't know it
was one of those that kind of brought back shades
of that a little bit for me. But we are
in the astros discussion here against seven one three two
one two five seven ninety is the number two get
in mention the Renel Blanco situation at the moment that

(01:36:57):
goes along with Hayden was Nesky already being out for
the year. You're waiting on Spencer Arraghetty me and you
are both in the same camp of believing that he
will probably be closer to the All Star break, maybe
even wait until after the All Star break until he
is back and ready to go for you.

Speaker 5 (01:37:15):
So now that puts even.

Speaker 7 (01:37:16):
More pressure on Hunter Brown, on fromber even more pressure
on Lance mccullors, which you laid it out perfectly earlier
that you haven't been able to count on him in
terms of longevity in games, and then you have to
count on guys like Colton Gordon and Brandon Walter and
maybe even for a second time this season, aj blue Ball.

Speaker 9 (01:37:38):
Yeah, this is just getting depressing.

Speaker 8 (01:37:40):
I mean literally, you know, I said it, you know,
at the start of the season, I said, man a
rotation of Hunter Brown from ber Valdez, Spencer Arraghetty, who
was it, Hayden was Nesky and ronal Blanco like, that's
a pretty solid, strong, strong five. And then a few
weeks ago we had the stupid Fluke incident where Spencer

(01:38:02):
get he takes a hand off his ball shagging fly balls,
and he hits it right on the thumb, you know,
and breaks his thumb on his throwing hand. You're like,
what a freak accident. But okay, we'll overcome this because
once Nesky's been good and you know, we've got Ryan
Guster knocking on the door in minor you know, minor
league and all this, and then you know, and then

(01:38:22):
the news comes out a couple of days ago that
wasn Esky is done.

Speaker 9 (01:38:25):
For the year.

Speaker 8 (01:38:25):
It's gonna need Tommy John. You're gonna miss him all
the rest of this year and into next year. And
it's like, well, that really sucks, but okay, we got
Ryan Gusto. Here comes Colton Gordon, he's doing his thing. Hey, le,
that's McCullers junior's back. We can overcome this. And then
run o'blanco, you know, has this this issue that again
doesn't look good.

Speaker 9 (01:38:43):
We want to continue to say, like the team has
not said anything.

Speaker 8 (01:38:47):
But when you say elbow Sorenus and you're flying him
back to Houston for further review was with doctors, that
doesn't look good.

Speaker 9 (01:38:54):
That that almost has shades of Tommy John. So until
they say it, we'll see what it is.

Speaker 8 (01:39:00):
But with him out at least indefinitely, you know, I
think we can clearly say that your rotation now is
Hunter Brown and farmber Velde is great one two punch,
but three four, five Dan is very much up in
the air, and Lance mculler's junior.

Speaker 9 (01:39:15):
Is now your three.

Speaker 8 (01:39:16):
That's a guy who has a seven eighty eighty ra
who just want to season a long four innings pitch.
Can he go five tonight? Oh boy, I hope he
goes five innings? Like that's your number three guy, the
number three guy for Seattle with they're getting George Kirby
back to go with Luis Gueesio and Brian wu and
Emerson Hancott. Like you look at some of these other
pitching staffs, you go, that's not fair. Like we're trying

(01:39:38):
to piecemeal this thing together. And even if mccullors is
the three, your four in the five right now is
some combination of Ryan Gusto, Colton Gordon, and Brandon Walter.
I mean, you might as well just call him the
Houston Space Cowboys, because that's what this is right now.

Speaker 7 (01:39:52):
Well, I mean, you know you just mentioned Ryan Gusto.
He's another guy that's worth mentioning because I mean the
yo yo has been happening with him, where Hey, you're
a starter, all right, Well now you're back into the bullpen.
All right, Well now we need you back as a starter. Well,
now we need you back in the bullpen. I mean
it's one of those that he kind of with the

(01:40:12):
benefit of hindsight here look back and say, maybe you
should have just kept him in the starting rotation, especially
the way that he was pitching. He was building up
his arm strength being able to give you some of
those innings that you needed in terms of getting into
the sixth inning. And the last time out we saw
that maybe that yo yo started to really hurt him
a little bit.

Speaker 9 (01:40:34):
I guess.

Speaker 8 (01:40:34):
So, I just I mean, again, like the fact we're
gonna have to lean on heavily on these on these guys,
and this is why you have a farm system.

Speaker 9 (01:40:41):
I mean, this is for for development and guys to
answer the call.

Speaker 8 (01:40:44):
But I mean the thought was dan one guy, like
maybe one arm comes up this year and you get
to lean on and you know, during spring training it
was looking like, okay, Gusto will probably be that guy.
But now you're counting on two or three guys coming
up through the farm Ciste and then you mentioned aj Blueball,
who got rocked in his first Major league outing. You know,

(01:41:04):
that's a guy that you know he might come up
and mix some more spots starts, and the hope is
Arrogetti gets back sooner rather than later. And even you know,
on the trajectory right now you're talking, he's at least
six weeks away, if not more. And then you know,
can we get an update on JP France and Luis Garcia.
You know the talk has been off sometime post All

(01:41:26):
Star break those two guys, Okay, when like, let me
know when they're when they're ready to go. And then
you know, I heard somebody ask him about Christian Hobby
the other day. I just think with the hemming of
when he got hurt last year, I think we just
just passed the one year mark of it. I don't know,
I've been told like it's probably not likely he's even
gonna pitch period this year.

Speaker 9 (01:41:44):
We'll see.

Speaker 8 (01:41:44):
I mean, maybe there's some hope for September, August, December,
maybe he gets back right, But I don't know, man,
This is just it's a rough situation you were in
right now in terms of you've got a long season
to go and you're now missing two big arms from
your cross your fingers, say your prayers on whatever the
diagnosis is gonna be on Renel Blanco. The best I

(01:42:06):
can hope for is, you know, it was just it
was a chip in his elbow and it was just
sore from that. We're gonna clean it up and he's
gonna miss a couple weeks. Like that would be the
best case scenario.

Speaker 10 (01:42:16):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (01:42:16):
I mean usually when you do get the elbows, that's
you know, the worst case scenario does play out. But
I mean you're hoping maybe just some inflammation needs to
stay off it for a starter or two or something
like that. But then even I mean, you start to
creep into that Terria Tory Gordy where it's okay, he
misses a starter or two, but then you've got to
be able to try to get him back on a

(01:42:37):
mound throwing again. Is this something that's going to go
away and stay away. I mean, you know, all of
those different types of things creep in. And it is
worth noting than an hour from now we're actually gonna
be talking with Dana Brown, so hopefully we will have
an update on him and what it looks like for
the Astros going forward. The pitching discussion is still there
if you want to jump in on it. Seven one

(01:42:58):
three two one two five ninety against seven one three,
two one two five seven nine zero. But the Astros
lineup this year, we know some of the numbers, but
just how bad or some of the numbers. Will break
some of those down for you here as it is
the Shawn Salisbury Show. Here on a Thursday, Sports Talk
seven ninety, we're for the Shawn Salisbury Show. Continued is

(01:43:22):
we bring in Brandon? Good morning, Brandon?

Speaker 5 (01:43:24):
What's going on morning?

Speaker 10 (01:43:27):
How are you good man?

Speaker 7 (01:43:28):
How are you?

Speaker 5 (01:43:34):
We got a little Kanye in the background. Brandon, what's
going on?

Speaker 9 (01:43:37):
Bets? Gordy? How are you? What's up?

Speaker 10 (01:43:41):
Man?

Speaker 9 (01:43:41):
How are you doing?

Speaker 1 (01:43:42):
Okay?

Speaker 13 (01:43:43):
Hey?

Speaker 1 (01:43:44):
I was I was playing my Astros.

Speaker 3 (01:43:47):
You know Seattle.

Speaker 5 (01:43:49):
Yeah, And how's it going?

Speaker 7 (01:43:52):
Uh?

Speaker 9 (01:43:53):
Trying to the pitching.

Speaker 5 (01:43:57):
I think the Astros are trying to figure that out too.

Speaker 10 (01:43:59):
Man, No, I'm trying to figure it out. I can't
pitch but pet me.

Speaker 5 (01:44:07):
Or without what.

Speaker 9 (01:44:12):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (01:44:13):
Okay, gotcha, gotcha? Okay.

Speaker 3 (01:44:19):
Any adding it's a.

Speaker 2 (01:44:26):
I forget the name of it.

Speaker 7 (01:44:30):
You want to think about it and give us a
shout later. It sounds like you're jamming out to some
Kanye man. I don't want to take you away from that.

Speaker 8 (01:44:38):
That is funny, though. I didn't think in the video game.
If in the video game, if you're if you don't
have likes? Wasnsky and arraghetti out in the video game too,
because the MLB show they'll normally update like real injuries rosters.

Speaker 9 (01:44:54):
Yep.

Speaker 10 (01:44:54):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (01:44:55):
Can you imagine having to go try to win games
with Ryan Gusto and Colton Gordon?

Speaker 9 (01:44:59):
Are they in the game?

Speaker 7 (01:45:00):
I was gonna say, I mean, do you even have
to like create Brandon Walter, you know, like one of
those like you try to figure out, like you go
on one of those Reddit threads or some other message
board to figure out like what the ratings would be,
like his fastball, is this, his change up? Is this?
Like all all of those other things, Like I used
to do that on MVP baseball, like trade deadline time.
That was my time of year to shine, Like I

(01:45:21):
would legit go through and you know, make all the
trades myself because that was pre you know, the Internet
being on your system and being able to update it itself.
You probably wonder, Gordy, why it took me so long
to get it going.

Speaker 5 (01:45:33):
With the ladies.

Speaker 8 (01:45:36):
I gotta be honest, though, Brandon Walt, Like I was
at spring training, I don't even remember seeing Brandon Walter.

Speaker 9 (01:45:42):
Did he pitch in in spring training? Like, I don't
even remember.

Speaker 8 (01:45:46):
I know they claimed him, they signed him to a
minor league deal last August. I just like that when
I heard the name, like who and then even Ross
got Ross was like, oh, he must be a prospect. No,
he's like he pitched with the Red Sox two years ago,
so he's like he was in the final league system
with the Astros. But like he's not like a you know,
a minor league prospect that was making a season debut

(01:46:08):
or his big league debut. He was you know, he's
been been in the big leagues before. But that name
just like came out left field. I'm like, who the
Hell's Brandon Walter?

Speaker 7 (01:46:17):
Yeah, I mean because remember last year it was Dylan
god what was his name? He was with the Astros.
He was a reliever. Came over Dylan Coleman, and I
remember everybody, Oh, he's got the stuff, you know, he
could really be somebody. And I remember his locker next
to him was this guy with the South Africa flag
on his glove, and I was like, who is this guy?
And they're like, oh, yeah, it's Taylor Scott. And he

(01:46:38):
just goes out there and just you know, shoves during
spring training and you're like, okay, maybe, and then you know,
he started off really good last year with this team,
and then he tapered off this year, which was unfortunate.
But yeah, I don't remember Walter. I mean Gordon van
Why that was another guy that I remembered this spring.
But aside from them, yeah, not much.

Speaker 9 (01:47:00):
Brandon Walter did.

Speaker 8 (01:47:00):
He pitched in four games for the Astros in in
spring training and ending here and inning there, two innings here.
I mean that's basically what it was. So yeah, as
a word and why, it was like who the hell
is this? He's twenty eight too, It's not like he's
something like twenty two year old kid, like he's been
around a while.

Speaker 9 (01:47:19):
But hey, look he was outstanding there. I won five
shutout innings.

Speaker 7 (01:47:22):
If he wants to do that again, great, yeah, good
for him too. Of being able to go down the
sugar land and create an opportunity. I mean, that's really
what this is is he clearly was pitching well enough
that they said, yeah, we trust this guy with a
spot start. I mean a lot of times it's about
who's available. But I mean I also don't think the
Astros would have gone with them if they felt like
this could be another Blair Henley situation.

Speaker 8 (01:47:45):
Blair Emily goodness gracious that the only reason that guy
got to start was because he uh you know, they
were in like a it was a dire desperation need
of like fromber got scratched that day. Yeah, and he
got sick and he needed somebody to start. So that
was that was the reason in behind that. Did I
see I thought I saw Jake Boss. Did he get

(01:48:06):
shut down or John?

Speaker 5 (01:48:07):
Yeah, he's he's having tea.

Speaker 8 (01:48:09):
J Well, there you go. It's it's you know, he
was pitching well for them, and they liked him a lot.
But you know that the trade for Yu Say Kakuchi
was was a big one. He worked out for the
Astros down the stretch, but unfortunately wasn't enough to make
the postseason.

Speaker 9 (01:48:26):
He didn't even get the pitch of the postseason.

Speaker 5 (01:48:28):
Yeah, it'd be nice to have him right now, that
is for sure.

Speaker 7 (01:48:31):
By the way, to Brandon listening to Kanye in the background,
was that was that the college dropout?

Speaker 9 (01:48:37):
It lounded like it.

Speaker 5 (01:48:38):
Yeah, okay, that that was that was God.

Speaker 9 (01:48:40):
That was prime Kanye.

Speaker 5 (01:48:41):
He was so good then, man, what happened to you? Dude?

Speaker 7 (01:48:46):
We don't have to talk about that, all right. The
Astros hitters, and you know, we we see games like yesterday.
We've seen a lot of them that looked like yesterday,
and it just gets me, you know, going through all right,
like what are their stats Like they've got to be,
you know, lower third in this lower third and that
like second to last last in this We know what
they are with bases loaded situations. But as a whole

(01:49:09):
this year, Gordy, interesting enough, Like the numbers are not
as bad as I thought they were going to be
runners in scoring position two outs. They're hitting two twenty
seven this year with just runners in scoring position this year,
they are twelfth in all of baseball hitting two fifty
five as a team. As a whole this year, they

(01:49:30):
are right in the middle of the Major league's fifteenth
hitting at two forty six. And now with the home
runs that they hit yesterday, three of them forty five
on the season. Well, they're now twentieth in baseball and
home runs.

Speaker 8 (01:49:45):
Yeah, but you're still bottom ten. I mean, or you know,
you're in the lower third of the league at home runs.
It's you know, and again it's got to pick up
drastically here. I mean the fact Dan we were almost
into June and East soak per it took him two
home runs yesterday to get to the first aster with
double digit home runs. It's just again, I can't stress anymore,

(01:50:09):
Like this team has lost their power, the heavy hitters
of Bregman and Tucker on on top of all the
pieces you've just you know, you've lost over the years.
The Yankees have three hitters with double digit home runs,
Ben Rice, Trent Grisham, and Aaron Judge. Like, this is
what you're competing against. Those teams can score a ton

(01:50:30):
of runs, and you know, lo and behold, you hit
a bunch of home runs, You're probably winning a lot
of games because you're scoring a lot of runs. The Asters,
where are they in runs scored per game? It feels
like they've got to be near the lower half of
the of Major League baseball, right.

Speaker 7 (01:50:45):
Well, I mean their run differential I think is plus
sixteen on the season, So I mean they're not you know,
getting beat when they lose by a ton. But you know,
just that differential alone usually the best teams baseball. That's uh,
that's where you know, you look to and try to
figure out, hey, does this team actually have a chance

(01:51:08):
to be able to win?

Speaker 8 (01:51:10):
Runs scored one that is ninth lowest in baseball, So
you know, take that for what you will. They're averaging
the one hundred and ninety five runs scored forty nine games.
That's three point nine runs per game. That's that's where
I say it, like they you know, when they score
four runs and the pitching is good, they're winning those games.

(01:51:31):
But you know when they score three runs and they
give up four or five, they're you know, you lose
five to three.

Speaker 9 (01:51:36):
It's just they're they're not. This team is not built
to win games ten to seven. You know, they just don't.
They don't have that kind of firepower.

Speaker 7 (01:51:44):
Yeah, and You've been counting a lot on this pitching
staff to be able to try to carry you in
some of those games, and for the most part, they've
been able to do that. But then you know, the
past couple of days, you look at it and you say, well,
you needed more out of the guys that have the
bats in their hands, and they haven't been able to
do that.

Speaker 5 (01:51:59):
So that discussion is still there.

Speaker 7 (01:52:01):
If you want to hop in on at seven one
three two one two five seven ninety against someone three
two one two five seven ninety Anthony Tim, see you
guys right there, Get you guys involved.

Speaker 5 (01:52:10):
You want to join him, you can do so on
the phone lines.

Speaker 7 (01:52:13):
But coming up, it seems like this guy gets bagged
on a lot. But maybe he's finally getting the right
amount of shine. We will talk about him and much
more here on the Sean Salisbury Show Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 9 (01:52:27):
Why You're back.

Speaker 2 (01:52:29):
This is the Sean Salisbury Show.

Speaker 9 (01:52:31):
Get back at it.

Speaker 7 (01:52:33):
Legitimate information that under that circumstance with a team up
by fourteen or more with two minutes and fifty seconds
or less in the game, was nine hundred and seventy
to oh in those situations. Now said teams are nine
hundred and seventy and one.

Speaker 3 (01:52:56):
Wow.

Speaker 9 (01:52:57):
Wow, Look, we're just dann.

Speaker 8 (01:52:59):
That just means we're one step closer to a Midwest
NBA Finals between the Thunder and the Pacers and cannot
wait to see those TV ratings because uh they're I mean, look,
Timberwolves or Thunder, take your pick. At Least the Thunder
you could sell on. I mean, this is a team
that lost fourteen games in the regular season. They just
you know, shay Yeljess Alexander was just named MVP, so

(01:53:22):
at least you could sell that. But they want the
they want the eyeballs of the New York market. I mean,
if the Knicks could could find a way to do this.
But yeah, I mean, we're talking to Indiana Pacers Oklahoma
City Thunder finals. To me, I like it because it's
gonna be good basketball. It means we're gonna crown a
first time champion of either team. But god like, I

(01:53:44):
mean Terry's Halliburton. I mean, if you didn't know who
he was before, get to know them, because that dude
is as clutch as it comes.

Speaker 5 (01:53:51):
Oh, Gordy, you know better than this.

Speaker 7 (01:53:53):
You best believe that the NBA is going to Tony
Brothers and Scott Foster this thing on both sides as
much as possible down the stretch.

Speaker 9 (01:54:02):
Well, how much do you want to bet?

Speaker 8 (01:54:03):
I haven't put on the TV yet this morning, but
but first take how much do you want to bet?
The lead story is how did the Knicks overcome this?
What did the Knicks need to do? Like it's gonna
be nothing about what a win for the Pacers, It's
all gonna be devastating loss in the Knicks.

Speaker 9 (01:54:18):
How do the Knicks fix this? What do the Knicks
need to do? Like, that's what I just hate it.

Speaker 8 (01:54:21):
Like when the Rockets years ago, when the Rockets were
playing the Warriors in all those playoff series, it was
always like, what went wrong and the Warriors loss last night?

Speaker 9 (01:54:29):
What did the Warriors need to do?

Speaker 8 (01:54:31):
It's like, well, what does Houston need to do? Like
it's just it's so funny how they do that. We're
just so one sided.

Speaker 7 (01:54:37):
Well it's kind of like, and you know, I think
this was before you were here. Remember the playoff series
when the Rockets and Lakers played and Aaron Brooks went
off and I think it was TJ Simers that asked
Phil Jackson you know, how does Aaron Brooks go off
against you guys? And Phil Jackson was like, dude, give
the guy some bleeping credit. He played a hell of
a game, Like you do appreciate it when it comes

(01:55:00):
from the people who are involved. But yeah, I'm with you,
like I'm I'm sure, And I don't have it on
in the studio for that very reason, because I don't
feel like swimming in the shallow end of the pool
and being dumber by just seeing my eyes have that
graphic in front of me while a bunch of people
are talking and I can't hear what they're saying, but
I can only imagine that it would be things that
I'm just like, I could walk into a bar and

(01:55:20):
hear somebody say something very similar, and you're getting paid
much more than they are.

Speaker 8 (01:55:26):
Yeah, well, regardless, pacers are really good Halliburton and Shake
Gildas Alexander. I'm just I'm excited from a standpoint Dan
that we're gonna get a new fresh blood, like somebody
new is gonna win a championship and uh, and that's
encouraging for us because that's the sign of the NBA

(01:55:46):
is heading in.

Speaker 9 (01:55:47):
The right direction. I know they would disagree. They think
it's great to have the Lakers and the Warriors and the.

Speaker 8 (01:55:53):
Celtics and these dynasties going for three championships in a
row or whatever.

Speaker 9 (01:55:58):
Like to me, I hate that.

Speaker 8 (01:56:00):
I'd rather a sport that takes turns as fun as
it has been to watch, you know, Kansas City and
Patrick Mahomes have all that great success. It's more fun
to see, Hey, look here the Eagles come poking in
and winning a Super Bowl. Like I'd rather see more
parody like it, because then it gives teams like Houston hope.
It gives the Rockets hope that, hey, look at what
the Pacers built and they got their won a title.

Speaker 9 (01:56:22):
Look at what the thunderbuilt and got their won a title.

Speaker 8 (01:56:24):
Same thing in the NFL, Like it gives the Texans hope, Hey,
with CJ Strata, some things go right, we too can
win a Super Bowl, like I just I hate the
ones where it's you know, the same damn teams every year.

Speaker 7 (01:56:36):
See, but I mean I got the opposite direction with
it if it's your team, Like, I love the fact
that people, oh we have astros fatigue, Now, well that's
your problem.

Speaker 5 (01:56:44):
I don't care.

Speaker 7 (01:56:45):
I enjoy seeing them make runs in the postseason. I
enjoy the fact that you know, they're the villain a
little bit for people out there now for dumb reasons.
But still, everybody has to be able to tell themselves
a nice little story and believe a narrative that's out there.

Speaker 5 (01:56:58):
So I'm fine with it.

Speaker 7 (01:56:59):
But I don't know if you heard me kind of laughing,
because I looked up what the NBA referee assignments were
tonight and I was right, and they did it a
double whammy on the same game tonight, Game two between
Minnesota and Oklahoma City. Your crew, chief Scott Foster, referee
Tony Brothers. They want that thing one to one badly.

Speaker 8 (01:57:24):
Oh yeah, absolutely, So we'll see what happens. But again,
I just I'm I'm all for these these conference finals.
I'm all for the four teams left remaining. Again, I'm I'm.

Speaker 9 (01:57:36):
Over the whole you know, all we gotta have we
gotta have Lebron in there. If Lebron's not it, I
don't care.

Speaker 8 (01:57:41):
If Steph Curry's not in there, I don't care if
Jason Tatum and the Celtics on it, I don't care. Okay, good,
I don't care about you like I'm just sick of
I got sick of the same damn teams every year
in the in the finals.

Speaker 7 (01:57:51):
Well, we can continue this discussion if you want someone
three two and two five seven ninety Uh, the local
guy that's finally getting some shine much deserved. We'll carry
that over into the nine o'clock hour. But real quick, here,
let's squeeze in Anthony and dear deer Park who wants
to talk some astros pitching Anthony.

Speaker 5 (01:58:09):
What's going on?

Speaker 7 (01:58:10):
Hey, good morning, guys, there's unfortunately not just to pitch Anthony. Yeah, hey,
you're breaking up here. Let me let me put you
on hold and we'll catch you up on the other side.
If that's cool, man, Because yeah, I see if we
can get a better connection there. Uh but yeah, I mean,

(01:58:32):
you know, the Astros starting up a big series here,
here's something Gordy that somebody just brought up to me.
And I mean, I don't necessarily know if I ride
with this, And it's the blame that Joe Espata card
here of why not hold or skip Hunter Brown yesterday
to have him ready for the opener of this series?

Speaker 8 (01:58:56):
Yeah, I mean the problem is who were you go throw.
I mean, you're you're limited to that as it is
with the pitching staff right now. So I get they
did it on Sunday, right they moved Fomber up and
he went Sunday in the final game of the Ranger series,
as opposed to go in game one of.

Speaker 9 (01:59:12):
The Race series. But yeah, I get where you're.

Speaker 8 (01:59:17):
Coming from, But I don't know what the better option
would have been. Who you would have thrown yesterday instead
of Hunter?

Speaker 7 (01:59:21):
Well, I mean, and that's the thing is that you're
running into a situation right now where any healthy option
that is out there you want to go with, regardless
of who the opponent is, because I mean, you're trying
to win the game. That's that's the the you know,
the the whole point of why you're on the field
that day. But I mean it is also where what
kind of precedent does that set to your team that

(01:59:44):
if you're, hey, guys, you know, we got to be
white knuckle for this thing right now, because I mean
we're in the thick of it in May, as opposed
to maybe I would revisit that conversation if it's late
August and September.

Speaker 8 (01:59:56):
Yeah, and you're sending a message, Hey, guys, today's game
doesn't matter. We're just gonna throw This came against the
Rays because tomorrow's game is way more important with the
with the Mariners, so.

Speaker 9 (02:00:05):
I had to bring this up. I was watching MP
Network last night. Dan.

Speaker 8 (02:00:09):
They uh, they made a big deal or maybe I
think it was Tuesday night, they made a big deal
that that Kyle Tucker for the Cubs had homered and
they were making a big deal because they were, like, guys,
it had been nine games since he hit his last
home run.

Speaker 9 (02:00:20):
I mean, he was kind of in a drought there.

Speaker 8 (02:00:22):
He goes three for four and Tuesday night with a
home run and then follows it up yesterday with another
three for four day with a home run, and the
Cubs keep winning. So it's been a great trade for
the Cubs, man, I mean, the Kyle Tucker has invigorated
that lineup and they are winning a ton of games
with him, and he's been awesome. But by the same token,
the Astros lose yesterday, but one of the pieces of that,

(02:00:44):
Kyle Tucker did his part. He's ok pratus with you know,
not one but two home runs. He's been awesome and
was nesky was good prior to the to the the injury,
and camp Smith's been you know, he's shown some signs
as a rookie saw you know. To me, I still
say it's a it's an.

Speaker 9 (02:01:01):
Equal out trade overall.

Speaker 8 (02:01:05):
But yeah, when Kyle Tucker does great things for the Cubs,
we're gonna be looking at it going, oh, we had
that guy and we let him go.

Speaker 7 (02:01:11):
Well, I think that, you know, to the point you
just brought up, it's been pretty mutually beneficial. I mean
in terms of what Peretis has meant and then also
two at times, what you've been able to get out
of cam Smith. You would just like the consistency out
of cam Smith. But we can continue talking this as
we start to nine o'clock hour. Anthony will give you
a try again here if you want to join him
seveon one three two one two five seven ninety against

and the tush push is going to stay for now
in the NFL. But we are continuing with the astros

discussion again SEVENE three two one two five seven ninety Anthony,
let's try you again here on the Sean Salisbury Show.

Speaker 11 (02:03:11):
Hey, good morning, Dan.

Speaker 7 (02:03:12):
Better.

Speaker 5 (02:03:13):
That's much better man. Fortunately the the injury, well, it
was much better. Say that gay. Yeah, yeah, go ahead.

Speaker 7 (02:03:27):
So the the pitching Okay, yeah, Anthony, I think it's
us man. We'll give you a shot another time. But uh,
I mean he was talking about the pitching there. From
what I could hear, Gordian, I mean, we've covered it
quite a bit right now. It's about the injuries. It's
not about the production.

Speaker 8 (02:03:47):
Yeah, No, pitching staff as a whole has been fine
production wise, Like how many how many times this season?
Dan has the starting pitcher just absolutely gotten rocked? Like
I mean, like, yes, it was Hunter Brown's worst start
of the season and it was five earned in five innings.
I mean that still isn't like I mean to me,
that's still you had a chance to still win the

(02:04:09):
game giving up five runs. I'm talking to like a
starter gives up seven earned in three innings. You know, well,
I guess there was the Lancema Colors one up in
Chicago or no, non Chicago, was it Milwaukee?

Speaker 7 (02:04:21):
Whatever it was, Yeah, there was the mccullors. You had Gusto,
what was it? I mean fromber first game in Chicago
that was not good. Trying to think if Arragetty had
one two that you were just kind of like, e
not good. I mean, I don't think it was as
bad as like that Saturday afternoon where you had to
make the spot start against the Tigers, because that was

(02:04:41):
the neck discomfort for Justin Berlander, and he went out
there and I think, like didn't even get out of
the second inning, giving up like eight runs, and you're
just like, man, is this gonna be at times for
this team this year? But no, I mean, overall, you've
been able to, I think, get above average from the
starting staff of guys not named Hunter Brown or from
ber Valdez. And I mean just you know, recent examples,

(02:05:05):
just the other nights. I mean, you get Colton Gordon
able to get you into the sixth inning. You get
you know, Brandon Walter, a guy that, as we talked about,
you weren't even counting on and you're thinking to yourself,
and you know, me and Ari Alexander when he was
in for Sean the other day, we were like, all right,
you know, get us four innings, that's a good start
for you.

Speaker 5 (02:05:22):
He gave you five.

Speaker 9 (02:05:26):
Yeah, And that's the thing. I mean, Brandon Walter was
is that his name? I keep thinking I'm saying the
wrong name.

Speaker 5 (02:05:35):
No, it's Brandon. I've had to look narmerous times.

Speaker 7 (02:05:38):
It's almost like, you know, like I want to have
the que card in front of me of being like,
don't overthink it. Yeah, that's that's what his name is.
We don't need Blumber here to point to a scorecard
for us. We're pros.

Speaker 9 (02:05:50):
Yeah, he's just it's just such a generic name. But no,
he was fine.

Speaker 8 (02:05:56):
But again, you got to get something out of I mean,
figure out, Okay Gusto starting tomorrow night, Like, is Ryan Gusto?
Can you rely on him to be a piece of
your five man rotation the rest of the year. That's
a that's a question I have to ask because the
last couple of basically all of his outings this month,
Dan have been out of the bullpen.

Speaker 9 (02:06:20):
The Kansas City game, was that a start? I have
to go back and look, I can't remember.

Speaker 8 (02:06:24):
Uh, he did start that game against Kansas City, went
to he gave him seven earned Yeah. Uh, the game
against the White Sox, the game against the Rangers, you know,
so they'd stretched him out as a starter. He got
a handful of starts, you know, start gear coming out
of the bullpen. So I just like seeking the guy's
got about back and forth from okay, starter to bullpen,

(02:06:47):
to start at a bullpen, and then Colton Gordon, you know,
encouraged by his outings so far, you know what's he
gonna be. Can you rely on You know, if I
told you Dan, you gotta rely on Colton Gordon the
rest of the year to bake to make us a
start on the mount every five days.

Speaker 9 (02:07:03):
You feel good about that?

Speaker 7 (02:07:04):
Well, I mean, here's the answer that I would have
to both him and Gusto. I don't want to, but
I'm probably gonna have to. I mean, that's that's the
the easiest short answer I can give you. Is because
I mean, you're running into you no longer have the
farm system that you used to have where it was,
hey you lost this guy, but you got this guy.
Well you lost that guy too, Okay, well, hey I

(02:07:25):
got somebody else for you. I mean, I challenge you
to go throughout Major League Baseball and find many teams
that can, especially on the pitching front, be able to
have a ton of attrition to their starting rotation, and
then you look at them and say, oh, just fine, yeah,
I again, I just like.

Speaker 8 (02:07:45):
The fact that this weren't a spot now that you're
gonna have to lean on those guys. Gosh, if I'm
Dana Brown, I'm calling every day going, hey, how's Luis
Garcia doing?

Speaker 9 (02:07:54):
Hey? JP Frants throwing yet? Hey Spectraghetti, how's that dumb?

Speaker 10 (02:07:58):
Like you?

Speaker 9 (02:07:59):
You you were really relying on those guys to get
back here and get back healthy.

Speaker 7 (02:08:04):
Yeah, I mean I would say, probably don't go the
Bud Kilmer route, you know, like he did with the
running back and varsity blues of you know, delivering the
needles where then finally you have to have Mox and Billy,
Bob and everybody go in there and say, don't you
put that needle on his knee because well he was injured.
You know, you want to make sure that you avoid
the Lance Harbor fate right there.

Speaker 9 (02:08:27):
You know, you know you disappointed.

Speaker 8 (02:08:30):
I was just gonna ask, are you disappointed to we
talked about that ballpark being you know, minor league ballpark
like and they're like, oh, balls can fly out of here.
Are you disappointed in the offensive showing where you scored
four runs? Two runs and four runs like you know,
Paradi said the two homers yesterday, Jake Myers had a
home run the other day. I mean that first game,

(02:08:50):
it felt like, I mean what al Tuve hit one
to the warning track, Chaz hit one the dead center
that nearly got like it were I just figured balls
would be that ballpark a little bit more. I'm a
little bit disappointed in the Astros offensive showing.

Speaker 5 (02:09:03):
See you follow me on Twitter? Are you new here?

Speaker 7 (02:09:07):
I mean I had almost an entire dissertation on it
yesterday for that very reason. I'm like, like, can none
of you just get one in the air up in
the jet stream? Like is that so much to ask?
And then well, Mauricio du Bond did it. Just the
problem was there was nobody on base and then the
other one too, and I don't think I threw this
out there. Do the Astro just get every single dead

(02:09:29):
ball that's in play because it seems like there's so
many times off the bat and you're like, oh, that's
got a chance, and then it dies at the warning
track and you're just like how, like how did they
get the one that was not as tightly wound as
the one that I don't know, Mead or whoever for
the Rays just got that just hit a pop up
that got out?

Speaker 8 (02:09:47):
Yeah, And I mean, you know, maybe you took your
cap to you know, Taz Bradley's had some nice outings lately,
and he goes six innings of two run ball against you.
Zach Little the same thing with five innings of two
run ball against you, and he's pretty good as of late.
So I think maybe you do tip your caps to
the Tampa pitchers and say they got the job done.
Look what Tampa was rocking and rolling throughout the years,

(02:10:08):
it was because their starting pitching was was really good.
I mean, they're in a death knell of a division,
you know now, with with the Red Sox getting good
and you know, Lo and behold the Orioles, so the
one that that fell apart.

Speaker 9 (02:10:21):
They were supposed to be the team on the come up,
but the Blue Jays have gotten better.

Speaker 8 (02:10:25):
The Yankees are behemoths, So you know it's the Rays though,
like for years ago when they were making that, you know,
it felt like every year they were a wild card
team or you know, a couple of times winning the
Al East. You know, I thought it was always the
pitching that carried him. So I think you tip your
cap to the pitching in the series. They they did
their thing. But yeah, I'm just again disappointed that that

(02:10:46):
ballpark and they're like, oh, it's so hot too, the
ball's just gonna it's gonna fly out here.

Speaker 9 (02:10:51):
And you know, it just didn't for the Astros.

Speaker 5 (02:10:53):
We freet sock pretis it did.

Speaker 7 (02:10:54):
And then you know, as I mentioned Mauricio Dubon, he
was able to be one of those that it's just like,
all right, hey, that's how number one. No, it's not,
it's out of here. He was able to, but the
problem is nobody else was able to. And uh one
more on yesterday's game, What the hell is Yandy Diaz
his problem?

Speaker 1 (02:11:10):
Man?

Speaker 7 (02:11:11):
Like, I know he had the dust up with Fromber
and everybody in the postseason a few years ago, but
it seems like that guy's always really pissed off.

Speaker 9 (02:11:19):
I think he's more he's angry at Dave Raymond for
calling yan Air Diez yandi.

Speaker 7 (02:11:24):
Ah Okay, maybe that's it, or maybe it's just that,
like everybody else was able to get out of Tampa,
which Tampa is an awesome town. I would think it'd
be fun to play baseball in that town. But you know,
he's kind of the last one of everybody else that
got shipped off. You know, Bowers isn't there anymore. Kier
Meyer is not there anymore. I mean, I'm trying to

(02:11:44):
think Adamis is not there anymore, like all these other
guys that you're just like, who the hell is this guy?

Speaker 5 (02:11:49):
And he's hitting three hundred?

Speaker 9 (02:11:51):
Who is this guy?

Speaker 8 (02:11:53):
Well, a couple of years ago the Astros were trying
to get him, you know, they stuffed around on yandhi
ds what and he did some some some help. So yeah,
I don't know, I don't always did, but that's probably
a good A good thought is like he's the last
of you know, they traded a Rose Arena and all
these big pieces that they've had, and he's he's stuck

(02:12:13):
on this team that is kind of stuck in what
do you what do you call that?

Speaker 9 (02:12:18):
The stuck between heaven and hell? Perpuratory? Yeah, yeah, it's
kind of what the what the rays are?

Speaker 5 (02:12:24):
Yeah?

Speaker 7 (02:12:25):
Second mention of that today because I had a purgatory
mentioned off air with Triple E earlier.

Speaker 5 (02:12:30):
So I don't know.

Speaker 7 (02:12:31):
Maybe it's maybe it's top of brain, it's it's in
the atmosphere right now, you know, it's all the the
energy that's out there has got to mean you thinking
about that.

Speaker 9 (02:12:40):
That's the worst thing you can be in sports? Is
stuck in stuck in purgatory?

Speaker 8 (02:12:43):
Remember those about fifteen years ago, like the pre hardened
Rockets where they were like they weren't good enough to
get a top lottery pick, but they weren't bad at
I'm sorry, they weren't bad enough to get a top
lottery pick, but they weren't good enough to get like
a good playoff seed and make a run, like the
Chase Budinger teams, the Kyle Lowry teams.

Speaker 9 (02:13:04):
Like you're just stuck in that purgatory of all right,
either we're.

Speaker 8 (02:13:07):
Gonna add some big pieces and we're gonna make a
hard run at this thing, or we're gonna sell and
we're gonna suck, like we got to pick one of
the other.

Speaker 9 (02:13:14):
We can't be stuck in this in between.

Speaker 7 (02:13:16):
How dare you besmirched the good memory of Chuck Chuck
Hayes and Carl Landry and all of the great Rockets
Shane Battier who were able to fill in those teams.

Speaker 9 (02:13:27):
Rick Adelman too, didn't he could be in like the
Olympics and volleyball or.

Speaker 5 (02:13:32):
Something beach volleyball, Yes, yes he did.

Speaker 7 (02:13:35):
Yeah, he was part of the Beach volleyball crew out there,
and then of course twenty ten Yeoman tried to give
it another run, but that was it when it was
all said and done.

Speaker 5 (02:13:45):
Shout out Courtney Lee too for those teams. Brad Miller.

Speaker 7 (02:13:48):
I remember Brad Miller's first initial press conference actually called
Joe keem Noah joke him, and he wouldn't let it go,
and he never let it go like for the rest
of the time that he was here, and I was
just like, dude, like Okay, I get it now, like
I understand.

Speaker 5 (02:14:03):
It's the lessons you learn when you're young in this business.

Speaker 8 (02:14:05):
Gordy, Well, hopefully you will learn some lessons out at
Dike and Park tonight and understand what beer goes perfectly
with watching Astros baseball. And that's what our friends and
Carbock Brewing in the Crawford Bach. When you see it
around Dike and Park with the Tequiel Sundrie stripes on
the can, you know it is time for Astros baseball.
And whatever you're having at the ballpark, whether it's peanuts,

(02:14:28):
I like the wings from Pluckers, I'm a little partial
to them, but the burgers, the chicken fingers, whatever you're
getting there at the ballpark. Make sure you do so
with a Crawford Bock in your hand, and root on
these astros as they come back home for an important
big series against the Seattle Mariners. And always check the
calendar over their car bock. They've always got some fun
events going on out there in the beer garden. We'll

(02:14:48):
actually be out there next Wednesday, I believe, after the
day game with the A team and Ross and I
will be doing a live Dish cast as well from
out there. So get on out there, go check out
what they got go going on at Carbach Brewing, and
of course get yourself a Crawford box. Tonight at dyk
In Park.

Speaker 13 (02:15:06):
The Sean Salisbury Show continues on your smart TV. Listen
to Sports Talk seven nighty on any device with our
free iHeartRadio.

Speaker 5 (02:15:16):
App, Gordy.

Speaker 7 (02:15:18):
We're gonna be joined by Dana Brown here in about
ten minutes. Obviously a lot of different things to get into,
but something you shared with me that I've been wanting
to get to here is Jason Stark, the athletic formerly
of ESPN, throwing out his Major League Baseball All quarter
Century team and an astro gets some shine. Jose L
Tuove the All quarter Century Team here for the two

(02:15:42):
thousands up until twenty twenty five.

Speaker 5 (02:15:45):
So he makes the list.

Speaker 8 (02:15:49):
Yeah, I hope that's a sign of what's to come
for you know the future of jose L Twovy and
his Hall of Fame bid and all that.

Speaker 9 (02:15:57):
I know, you know, some of these old school based
all purists or of.

Speaker 8 (02:16:01):
The mindset, oh you were part of a cheating team,
so you can never be honored and all this kind
of stuff. But Jason Starr has been around, done it
for a while and I'm I'm happy that he puts
Josel Tuve in there. It's it's a it's a fun
exercise of you know, the All quarter century team. So
you go back to what two thousand, you know, two

(02:16:22):
thousand to now and it's and it's a stud a
you know, stud lineup of guys you're putting out there.
But cool to see how Twove get that shine and
certainly you know deserve I mean you look up and
down that list. It is funny they list Justin Verlander
as a Detroit Tiger at the starting at the at
the top of that starting rotation. I think you could
have gone Detroit slash Houston because I mean, I would argue,

(02:16:46):
Justin as in a Houston uniform accomplished just as much,
if not slightly.

Speaker 9 (02:16:51):
More than what he did in Detroit.

Speaker 7 (02:16:52):
Well, I mean it's not only that, it's also Roy Halliday.
They have him as a Toronto Blue Jay. I mean,
I know that he did a lot of his work
there in Toronto, but I mean he had was it
a perfect game or a no hitter that he had
in the postseason, and then he also was part of
that Actually, no, he was not part of the Phillies
world title team because they won in eight and he

(02:17:15):
got the Philly there in twenty ten, so I can
understand that. But still that was another one that kind
of surprised me. But the others on the list the outfield,
Bonds and left, Mike Trout and center, and I just
don't think he's played enough. Aaron Judge and right, all right,
fine Beltrey over at third, Derek Jeter at short, mentioned

(02:17:35):
L two, ve, Albert Pooholz at first, absolutely, David Ortiz
the dh for sure, and Yachti Molina as the catcher
as part of the All quarter Century team.

Speaker 9 (02:17:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (02:17:48):
I don't know if there's any glaring mission or something.
I would change on that list. I think that's pretty uh,
I think that's a pretty fair fair list. I mean
the tough part of bonds is what was his last
I mean, I guess you had a good six, seven,
eight years into the two thousands, So I get I
guess I get him being on there, But it's hard

(02:18:10):
to make a list like that where you're going over
twenty five years of baseball.

Speaker 5 (02:18:13):
Yeah, and I think that also too.

Speaker 7 (02:18:14):
You mentioned about Al Tuvey, I mean a little bit
the narrative is kind of going away. Although I mean,
like I said, the moron raised fans continuing to do it.
You heard it a little bit more just because of
how close they were to the field. But I mean,
he has had numerous opportunities to be able to on
the record say all right, hey, I had nothing to
do with it, and he's ducked every single one of

(02:18:35):
those opportunities. I mean, the one time that I can
remember him being on the record, he was like, look,
I was part of the team. If the team did it,
we all did it, and I'm not going to throw
any guys under the bus. That obviously got him respect
inside the building, probably even more than people already had
for him. But then, I mean, you know, Gordy, I
watched games, and I see there's a mutual respect for
him on the field. He's still well liked by the players,

(02:18:57):
and I think that probably more more and more, you're
starting to see it. I mean, look, Jeff Passing, all
it needed to take for Alex Bregman to be one
of the darlings in baseball again was just to be
in a New Jersey and then you could have Jeff
Passon writing articles about the baseball lifer that is Alex Bregman.

Speaker 5 (02:19:14):
Oh what a guy. We love this guy.

Speaker 9 (02:19:18):
Yeah, it's again.

Speaker 8 (02:19:20):
The longer time goes on, I think they'll, you know,
I'll two, they will separate himself. Although I'd like to
see him get back to being a three hundred hitter
this year, that certainly is that would be nice to see.
But I was just kind of looking at this list
to try to think of like clear o missions. I think,
I mean, Bigio is remember this this starts in what
two thousand or two thousand and one, so you're only getting.

Speaker 9 (02:19:41):
A certain part of Bigio's career there.

Speaker 8 (02:19:43):
But the one that stands out to me, and I
know he's a right fielder and you wouldn't put him
in over Aaron Judge.

Speaker 9 (02:19:47):
I guess, but how does e Chiro not make this list?

Speaker 5 (02:19:50):
A good point? It's a good point.

Speaker 7 (02:19:52):
And with your point about jose Al Tuove, maybe that's
something we will discuss with astros GM Dana Brown because
that's coming up next right his weekly visit on the
Sean Salisbury Show Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 11 (02:20:04):
Hey, if your current wealth manager isn't hitting it out
of the park, for you to step up to plate

sure your wealth management manager is stepping up and talking

(02:20:24):
to you about the risk tolerance and for one k
rollover and how much money you're going to need to
retire and stay retired, all these things that come to fruition.
Are you prepared for downswings, for inflation, for market in
all those things, for market for national debt?

Speaker 5 (02:20:40):
Are you prepared for it? And if you're not, you
need a wealth manager and if you are prepared, good.

Speaker 11 (02:20:45):
How about somebody who stands shouldered shoulder with you that
can help you extend that so when you do retire,
you don't have to come out of retirement because well,
I was forced. I don't have any money. It's harder

Speaker 7 (02:21:29):
The Seawan Salisbury Show continued. He is Dana Brown and
he joins us here for a few minutes on the show.
Dana appreciate the time. Let's just get right to it.
Renel Blanco, we get the news yesterday. No, he came
back to Houston to meet with doctors. Do we have
an update on him?

Speaker 10 (02:21:47):
Not yet. We will have an update probably later on today.
You know, there's always a concern though when you hear elbow. Uh,
you know, we're hoping for the best, but we could
have something by later today.

Speaker 9 (02:22:00):
And Uh.

Speaker 7 (02:22:01):
With jord On, I mean, I know, it's kind of
still a wait and see with him. Was he able
to hit off a machine yesterday? I think I heard
that maybe it was alluded that he was going to try.

Speaker 5 (02:22:11):
Where are we at with him?

Speaker 10 (02:22:13):
Yeah, we did some tea work with him, and so
you know, he felt a lot better. And so the
key is that we wanted to be one hundred. We
don't want this injury lingering. It's one of those hand
injuries that you have to let heal of this muscle strain.
And so you know, he took some swings yesterday. He

(02:22:34):
felt pretty good. That's a good sign. Well, we'll let
him take some swings again today to see how it
feels and then we'll pick it from there.

Speaker 5 (02:22:44):
Yeah, what is the next step, Dina? And are we
with it now?

Speaker 7 (02:22:48):
Coming up on three weeks tomorrow since he's been in
the lineup. I mean, are we approaching where he's going
to maybe need to step out and get some at
bats at the lower levels.

Speaker 10 (02:22:59):
No, I don't think so. You know, you remember Joan
On he had a slow start in camp, you know,
in twenty twenty four, and you know, as soon as
he got back in there, he started to hit, you know,
right away. So this guy's, you know, such a good hitter.
I don't think we need to send him out. You know,
he was you know, he was swinging the bat, you know,

(02:23:22):
a lot, you know, during the course of this season.
So I think he feels like his timing and everything's
going to be fine. He's just got to get the
hand right.

Speaker 7 (02:23:30):
Dana Brown again joining us at astros GM. He hops
on with us every single week right here Sean Salisbury show.
I hate to make it about injuries here at the beginning,
but I mean, obviously, you know, it's just that part
of the year where it's starting to creep up on you.
But Spencer Arraghetti, are we kind of turning a corner
with maybe he can start throwing soon and start working
his way back.

Speaker 10 (02:23:52):
Not at this time. You know, it's healing fine though,
and so you know he's been out for a little while.
So it's gonna take him, you know, a little time
to get back. But you know, hopefully we can get him,
you know, somewhere in the the month of July, because
he's gonna have to go through a complete spring training

(02:24:15):
type thing because he's been shut down for so long.
And so, but the healing of the bone is coming
along nicely.

Speaker 7 (02:24:23):
And final one on the injury front, because I promise
you there's plenty of baseball to get to Dana Hayden
was Nesky. I believe, did he already undergo his TJ,
so now it starts his recovery.

Speaker 10 (02:24:37):
Uh No, not yet. It's it's coming though the next
few days or so. But you know, he's gonna he's
gonna end up, of course, having a Tommy John And
you know, it's unfortunate that we're losing you know, him
as a starter for the rest of the year, you know,
but it's gonna happen within.

Speaker 7 (02:24:57):
The next few days, all right, And now let's get
to the uh, you know, action on the field. I mean,
you guys, you go to Tampa, you lose two out
of three, tough one there on Tuesday nights and then yesterday,
you know, just a tough one for a Hunter, but
just overall, with your team heading into this series three
and a half games back of the Mariners, I mean,
how do you feel like you guys shape up with

(02:25:19):
trying to balance the healthy guys that you have, but
also too trying to make up for the guys that
you're without.

Speaker 10 (02:25:26):
Yeah, you know, look, yesterday's game was tough. You know,
I just you know, the one thing I thought about,
like how much the heat melts you down and takes
your energy, zaps you from your energy, and you know,
just looks like our guys, you know, struggled to play
in that heat yesterday. You know, Hunter Brown, you know,
who's been outstanding all year, you know, had one of

(02:25:50):
his first starts. But you know he's in, he's in,
he's in good space, good headspace. So I'm sure he'll
bounce back. But you know, overall, look, we're you know,
we're at the position where our pitching's still been pretty good.
You know, we uh let us down a little bit
the other day out of the ten, but excuse me,
for the most part, you know, the pitching has been

(02:26:12):
really good, the defense have been pretty good. Still waiting
on the bats to heat up. Collectively as a group.
You know, we still have some guys struggling, but you know,
we're coming into a big series this week and so
you know, we got them for four. We're three and
a half back, like to put a dent into that
three and a half, you know, and so I think

(02:26:33):
we got a good chance to you know, make a
dint in that. And so I'm looking forward to this weekend.
You know, we played these guys before. You know, we
lost two out of three, but we gave one of
those games away as well, So we match up well
against these guys, and you know, I'm looking forward to
putting a dent into that lead. So I think the
guys are ready to go. And then well at home,

(02:26:56):
we played so well at That's what I'm looking forward to.

Speaker 9 (02:26:59):
So yeah, Danda, that's all I was gonna say.

Speaker 8 (02:27:03):
You guys, come back home where you I mean, it
feels like every time you come back home, you're you're
winning the series that are played here, So uh.

Speaker 9 (02:27:09):
Feel good about coming back home.

Speaker 8 (02:27:10):
How big is tonight for a guy like Lance mccullors,
who you know got better his last outing was able
to get the four innings on eighty three pitches two
runs unearned for him, and just the one walk, which
I thought was big because you know, control was kind
of what he was missing there to those first couple
of outings. But you got to feel encouraged by that
last outing and going into tonight, I mean, I would

(02:27:32):
say the hope is maybe he could stretch it a
little bit further. If he can give you five innings
of two run ball or something like that tonight, that
would be very encouraging.

Speaker 10 (02:27:40):
Yeah, that's good. Yeah, I feel the same way. You know,
I mentioned last week that the second start, when you're
coming back from you know, rehab, it's always tough because
the first start you pour so much energy into it,
it seems like you never bounced back that well for
the second start. So his thirst start was a lot
better like we expect. And so we're looking for good

(02:28:01):
things tonight. You know, he should be dialed in. The command,
as you mentioned, is better and so you know that's
a good thing. I like his delivery and this secondary stuff.
The basketball seemed like it was playing, and so we're
looking for good things at a lance tonight, and he's
fired up about it.

Speaker 8 (02:28:22):
The other three guys on the back end of your
your rotation. Ryan Gusto will get a chance to go
presumably Friday night. Colton Gordon, we've seen a couple of
outings from so far and he's shown some good stuff.
And a guy that I think most ASTROS fans wasn't
on their radar, said, who's Brandon Walter. He gets an
opportunity the other night. It gives you five strong innings.

(02:28:43):
Just that collective group. I mean it feels like Dana,
you know, depending on the diagnosis with with Ronell and
having Spencer still out, like some of these guys are
going to have to step up. So just talk about
that collective group of Gusto, Gordon and Walter.

Speaker 2 (02:28:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 10 (02:28:56):
You know last year when you know our guys went down,
you know, we had guys like Eric Getty come in
step up, and so you know we have depth in
our minor leagues. You know, we haven't even started talking
about boot Ball yet. He's another one that's got depth.
He gives us step But these guys, you know, Gusto, Gordon,
you know, and Walter. Uh, these guys all can really

(02:29:19):
give us innings and and help fill in the gaps
you know in that rotation, providing these injuries and so
we feel confident. You know, Walter was really good the
other day, really good, mixed the pitches, you know, was
throwing a pretty decent slider, fastball, was a little sneaky change,
pulling the string on the change up. He gave us
a really good out and it was actually really good

(02:29:41):
to see. And of course Gordon pitching in front of
his hometown guys. You know, he threw the ball very well,
punched out a few guys, and and Loo looked really well.
So those are two really good left hand options you know,
that we like to see, and so we feel good
about our depth again.

Speaker 7 (02:30:00):
Dana Brown joining us here on the Sean Salisbury Show
for his weekly visit. H Dana, you've been bullish about
this lineup all year long, and you've said it's not
a question of if, but when that group gets going.
But I mean, you know we've seen struggles from Christian Walker,
from Janar Diaz, jose L Tuve too. What makes you
confident that those guys can can get things going in
the right direction.

Speaker 10 (02:30:22):
Yeah, these guys have always hit, you know, even when
it comes to Jordon, Jordon's off the slow start, we
know that he's gonna definitely come around. We know Yaner
is not gonna hit two twenty. I know Walker's not
gonna hit one ninety nine, you know, and these guys
I think they will, you know, at some point they
would definitely hit. And I'm really not worried about how

(02:30:42):
Tu Bay, you know, as he chases three thousand. But
you know, these guys collectively have all, you know, struggled
some and so I think it's really difficult. When a
group of guys are struggling, it really hurts your offense.
But at the end end of the day, I think
these guys are going to turn a corner. We're still

(02:31:03):
one game over five hundred, and you know, with once
these bats start to pick it up with the way
we're pitching, I think that's when we'll run off. As
I said, five in a row, seven in a row,
and potentially ten in a row. And so you hover
over five hundred, and then when you get hot with
the offense, you know, that's when things really take off

(02:31:25):
and you build the lead. Remember, you know last year
we got off to a slow start, we actually picked
it up and turned things around. I don't think we're
you know, as far back as we were last year,
but you know, being a game over. You know, we're
right there striking distance from getting hot, and so once
we get hot, I think that's when we'll see a
lot of good things happen, particularly in the standings.

Speaker 7 (02:31:47):
And the positives in your lineup get you out of
here on this one. The positives the bottom end of
your order has been really getting going. I mean, Jake
Myer is putting together good at bats, But I want
to talk about Cam Smith. I know her rides the
over four yesterday, but it seems like is at bats
even more competitive than we've seen early on this season.
I remember about a week or so ago you pointed
to about one hundred and fifty at bats. That's when

(02:32:08):
you feel like a guy kind of becomes a major leaguer.
I mean, is it encouraging to see him put together
some of these at bats after the few days of
layoff that he had to be able to give you
the production he has, you know, just now north of
one hundred at bats in the season.

Speaker 10 (02:32:24):
Yeah, very encouraging. You know, we know we struck out
four times yesterday. It was a tough day. Look, he's
learning at the big league level. He's twenty two years
old and we really feel good about, you know, the
things in the adjustments that he's making, and so ultimately
we think he's gonna hit and we think he'll be,
you know, a big part of our lineup. But he's
you know, going to the excuse me, he's going through

(02:32:49):
the bumps in the road, as you know, any major
league hitter as a youngster would do. And these things happen.
But you know, when guys are learning at the big
league level, you know, there's no nights off when you
know when it when it comes to good pitching at
the big leagues, and I mean, it's it's gonna be
ninety two to ninety eight every single night, you know,

(02:33:12):
and so regardless of the pitcher. And that's why, you know,
these dumb hitters, they are learning to make adjustments. And
I think he's coming along nicely. He's gonna have pockets
where there's still gonna be some struggle, but I think
he'll have, you know, some pockets where he really turned
the corner and it start to look really good and
to that point where he really feels comfortable in the
box every night, which we look forward to happening. And

(02:33:36):
as I mentioned, one hundred and fifty at bats. That's
the real thing. You know, these young guys, they get
those that one hundred and fifty, they start to feel,
you know, comfortable, they've gotten around the league once or
twice and things start to look a lot different.

Speaker 7 (02:33:49):
Well, Dana, we appreciate your time every single week. Looking
forward to this series this weekend. I mean, as we've
talked about three and a half games back and you know,
a chance of four times against them to be able
to to your words, put a dent into this lead.
But no, once again, we really appreciate your time.

Speaker 10 (02:34:05):
All right, guys, I appreciate you guys having me on.
Go Astros.

Speaker 7 (02:34:07):
Let's go there, you go Astro GM Dana Brown joins
us every single week. Come back react to some of
the things he talked about with both the healthy side
of this team, but also some of the injured guys
too that I know people are anxious to see return.
For the ones that we expect to see come back
in this season, we'll do that right here. It is
a Sean Salisbury Show, Sports Talk seven to ninety.

Speaker 2 (02:34:29):
This is the Sean Salisbury Show. Sales That's beutiful.

Speaker 7 (02:34:36):
The four game series this weekend against the Mariners three
and a half games back of Seattle for first in
the AL West, and wait and see on Renel Blanco,
as Chris Dana mentioning with us that we're gonna get
an update on Renel later on this afternoon when everybody
meets with the media over at dike In Park.

Speaker 9 (02:34:59):
Yeah, let's let's between the lines they're Dan.

Speaker 8 (02:35:01):
I mean, typically typically when they do this kind of thing,
it's because they know they're coming back home homestand you
know where all the media will be there today and
they'll make the official announcement. I think again, this is
just us guessing nothing official from the team, but reading
between the lines, it seems like it will be an

(02:35:22):
announcement of Ron Oblanco is gonna need, you know, some
kind of major surgery there, Tommy john or whatever, and
he will be done. Yeah, indefinitely, We'll say I won't
I won't automatically just say he's done for the season,
but obviously if it's if it's that serious, if it
is Tommy Johnny, he's done for a year plus, right,
So anyway, But that's reading between the lines. Dana being

(02:35:43):
as coy as he was there, that's typically how they
would handle this kind of stuff. They would wait till
this afternoon when they got all the media there at
the ballpark and they'll make the collective announcement together there.

Speaker 7 (02:35:54):
Yeah, I mean you hold out hope, but I mean
I do agree with you on that. I mean, you know,
because it's it's one of those bad news, don't you
Usually you know, kind of want to make sure all right,
you know, we all seated, we are all good. All right,
Well here's the bad news, but it's good news. Well
you tell everybody immediately. So again, well we'll have to
wait and see, but definitely hoping for the best when

(02:36:17):
it comes to Renel Blanco. But we do have one
for good and one for well. You got to be
a little bit more patient. The good is that they
don't think that Jordan would need a rehab assignment once
he is good to be able to start taking some
sort of live pitching, whether that be someone throwing it
to him or either off a machine that if the

(02:36:40):
hand feels good, they feel like the timing would be
where he could be able to get back in to
the swing of things literally here pretty quickly. But for Araghetti,
still not throwing, and it seems like still an indefinite
timeline for Araghetty to come back from that thumb injury.

Speaker 9 (02:36:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (02:36:56):
Again, reading between the lines Dana's response, it's almost made
it sing like, Yeah, I mean, we're we're close to
him picking up the ball and throwing it, So you
know that's oo, I mean, that's you know, probably you're
thinking now post All Star break for any of arrogating
Luis Garcia and JP France.

Speaker 7 (02:37:16):
Yeah, but still confident in Lance McCullers, who will get
his second start at dik In Park this year, first
one since the rough one that he had for his
second one of the season against the Cincinnati Reds, so
hoping for much better results out of him. Still trying
to figure out who's going to go on Sunday. Maybe
we'll find that out here even this afternoon or sometime

(02:37:38):
this weekend of either if it's gonna be Colton Gordon
or do you give aj blue Ball another chance, or
any of the other guys that we've not had a
chance so far here at the major league level to
see get a chance to make a start in a game.
And it would be a huge one too, because you're
hoping that at that point you have at least a
split that you know in your grasp, But I mean

(02:38:00):
we've talked about it, boy. I mean, if you really
want to get greedy, a sweep would be awesome, But
sweeping any team is incredibly tough, and especially as banged
up as you are right now, I think that's way
too much to ask. You're pressing your luck when you
throw that out there. Three out of four. Man, you
want to talk about backflips, but a split you can
at least say, nah, Okay. I mean, you know you're

(02:38:23):
at the blackjack table. You push, you don't lose, you
get to play another hand, but still you'd like to
be able to recoup some money.

Speaker 8 (02:38:31):
Yeah, And as you are right now, you're two and
a half or three and a half back of the Mariners.
So if you lose three out of four, two of
those cancel each other out, but each each winner loss
counts double, So you would be five and a half
back of Seattle.

Speaker 9 (02:38:45):
If you drop three out of.

Speaker 5 (02:38:46):
Four, Yeah, definitely take three out of four.

Speaker 8 (02:38:49):
You get it back to two and a half, so
you're within striking distance, right, it would be one and
a half. The math gets all tricky there, but yeah,
I just you know, to go back with you said
on Who's.

Speaker 9 (02:39:02):
Gonna Go Sunday?

Speaker 8 (02:39:03):
Colton Gordon pitched Monday night against Tampa and looked good.
I would think maybe you could go back to him
on Sunday. But you're right, they could end up bringing
blue ball back up.

Speaker 9 (02:39:13):
They could.

Speaker 8 (02:39:13):
You know, there could be somebody else that they want
to give it a look, So we'll see what they
end up doing.

Speaker 5 (02:39:18):
Yeah, absolutely so.

Speaker 7 (02:39:19):
Again, if you miss any of that conversation, be up
on Sports Talk seven ninety dot com, the free iHeartRadio
app new and improved iHeartRadio app that of course we
want you to put Sports Talk seven ninety preset number one.
But I mean, as things stand, I mean, you asked
Dana about Lance mccullors, and you know, talking about trying

(02:39:40):
to get him deeper into games. I mean, more than anything.
I think it's twofold with Lance. That's the first and foremost.
But the other one is he still a guy that
believes he can still get it done on the mound
as well as he did pre surgeries.

Speaker 9 (02:39:56):
Yeah, man, I.

Speaker 8 (02:39:57):
Mean, and look, I ripped on the folks who were
kind of cynical when it comes to the topic of
Lance mccolors and I get it. The guy had been
out for you know, two and a half years or
whatever it was, so I get why people feel that way.
But it's time to kind of get like, if you
can switch to a positivity, switch it to positivity. We

(02:40:17):
want Lance to do well. If Lance does well, that
means good things for the Houston Astros. So to me,
if you could kind of get out of the negative
thought and get more to the positive, Hey, Lance, we
got your back.

Speaker 9 (02:40:27):
Let's go, Bud, let's go get a good outing tonight. Like,
I think that's kind of where our mindset should be,
no doubt about it.

Speaker 7 (02:40:34):
Well, hopefully the mindset was one that enjoyed this edition
of The Sean Salisbury Show because Chris Gordy in for Sean,
Cole Thompson going to be in tomorrow to close out
the week, and then Sean is back next week, so
the full squad back together, getting.

Speaker 5 (02:40:50):
The band back together.

Speaker 7 (02:40:51):
But as for now, Dan Matthews, Chris Gordy, Triple E,
Emmanuel Elmore, appreciate everybody who was able to jump on
board today. Appreciate Astros, GM, Dana, the Matt Thomas Show
with Ross coming up next right here.

Speaker 5 (02:41:03):
