Speaker 1 (00:00):
A little bit better. We enjoy results like that a
little bit more. Thanks for Robert Ford Garrett Green on
the call of last night's Astro's Rockies game. And with
that we say, away we go and good morning here
Sean Salisbury show on Sports Talk has seven ninety KBM
E Houston and iHeart Radio station as the stros able

(00:20):
to Sean, I mean, let's let's go ahead and give
kudos first before you know, we do the other parts.
But the kudos are fromber Valdez. Where you been, brother,
I mean we've been, We've been looking for you. We've
been almost putting out an APB for you. Maybe even
they still do milk cartons any of those things.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
I think it's a.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
Phone notification, Yeah, looking for fromber Valdez to be in
front of the rotation guy.

Speaker 3 (00:44):
Yeah, I think you found well, you found him against
a team that you should find him against. But it
was a great, really good performance. Seven strong and you know,
than the bullpen time and did their job. That's not
supposed to look especially when you're playing Colorado one, but
also when you're fromber that look like now catapult into
the next hand full of starts. When the competition competition
ramps up obviously another one with Colorado today, But I uh,

(01:08):
it was impressive, even though they still squandered some opportunities.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
You know, the double play ball with the basis.

Speaker 3 (01:13):
Packed in the fifth and then ninety nine that Walker
swung through in the sixth. I mean, they had opportunities
also where they could have, you know, even made it worse.
But I'll take four. I'll take one as long as
nobody else scores. And Fromer did did his gig last night,
really pitched well. And anytime you get a shout out
in that no matter who it's against, is a good thing.

(01:34):
But that looked like a baseball team, you know, a
couple of home runs. I'll take that one, no question
about it.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
Seven innings, five strikeouts, scatters three hits and only walks
two and of course with the four to nothing final,
doesn't give up a single run in this one. No,
it was great to see that out of him. I mean,
and you know where you really need it at this moment,
because Hunter Brown. I mean, I think if nothing else,
the way that things been going lately, you would have

(02:01):
probably thought, okay, Hunter Brown had this performance.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
Fromber had the one that Hunter Brown had.

Speaker 1 (02:08):
But I mean, don't we know what this twenty twenty
five season sean nothing makes sense?

Speaker 3 (02:13):
Absolutely not. I think it made sense was yesterday winning
for it to nothing when looking like a first place team.
So but you're exactly right there, there is not a
lot of sense to it. And but hell yeah, like
I don't care if it's ugly or not. I'll take
ugly wins at this point. But last night was solid.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
Man.

Speaker 3 (02:34):
You know, defense didn't have to do a lot, pitching
staff did their thing. And when your start gets you
the seventh inning, I mean, I know it's a little
nerve wracking when it's won to nothing, but a couple
home runs late, now that's what we're talking about. Come out,
get a lead, even though it wasn't a big one,
but then turn around and make sure you close it
out with a couple of home runs. That one solo
or one two run job doesn't change the difference in

(02:56):
a game any job.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
So it was.

Speaker 3 (02:58):
It was an impressive performance way it's supposed to be
with him.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
Quite a bit of ground balls from Fromber so obviously
we know what he brings, and Brian King getting the
scoreless eighth a couple of strikeouts out of him and
then going with Brian to brave you there in the ninth.
Then I don't think most people would have noticed unless
TV and radio had mentioned it at a time during
the game. But Joe spota out with an illness as

(03:23):
I think he showed up to the park from what
I heard, and then it kind of got progressively worse,
and then he finally said, hey, Omar Lopez, you mind
taking over tonight because I've got to go home and
hit the sheets.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
I'm I'm not feeling great.

Speaker 3 (03:37):
Happens happens, and they did their job. That's you know
what you know, you prepare for that if a guy
gets ejected, you know, I mean, you hate to see
Joe miss Kames. Hopefully he's okay and back at it today.
So but yeah, good job and Omar, when your pitcher's
going that good and you and you keep him out
and ski what three hits from from fromber like you said,

(03:58):
and then you take care of it late for non
pretty easy to do your job when I guy's pitching out, Well,
you don't have to do a whole lot.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
Well, I think that's it on him.

Speaker 1 (04:05):
I think that's when Josh Miller said, Hey, what's this
chair and Ottoman doing in here? And why are you
sitting in it? I mean, that's pretty much what it
was for him last night. It was kind of point
and click here of hey, just a couple of guys
get hit, and then you know, Fromber, just be Fromber.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
There's not really much I need to do on my end.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
I mean, maybe every once in a while sin Josh
Miller over there to make sure someone's up in the bullpen.

Speaker 3 (04:25):
But aside from that, it's pretty simple tonight. The business
as usual. Unfortunately, well for us, it wasn't business as usual.
The up and down as I was solid. You win
a lot of games that way. It doesn't matter who
it's against. When you get a picture that you know
that looks like the acer staff, that's the way it's
he's supposed to look. And man, they're facing up they
I'll tell you what they're starting. Told pump it up

(04:47):
there now. They we said they got a few pieces
that are some pretty good players. But you know, unlike
the day before where they looked like they were disinterested,
they looked into it last night, and you can it's
easy to get once gets rolling, to get a little
bored because he's pitching well, but you never want to
get bored because he's such a groundball guy, you know.
So defense was on point, they hit Pitcher was on

(05:10):
point and hit the ball of the park and clutched,
you know, in moments to extend the lead. And I
got out early. And then when when you were pitching
like that, one or two runs is you're feeling pretty
good about it. That looked like an ace of his staff,
and at least for a day, it quiets down. Oh
my gosh, how'd you lose to Colorado?

Speaker 1 (05:29):
Now it's definitely and last night with the runners in
the scoring position, you're one for four, so you didn't
have as many chances. But still, I mean, you talk
about the pena double play that you grounded into in
the fifth, and you're just like, oh, man, come on,
I mean it was it was a lot of frustration
leading up to that point. And then cam Smith finally said, yeah,

(05:49):
you know, I know I've been on a homer drought,
but it's time to end that. And then you're on
Alvarez where earlier and I put out the tweet as
soon as he hit the deep fly ball, Sewan I said,
a man, he just he just doesn't have that strength
back yet. I mean, that's that's one of those that
if you were not had been going for about twenty
thirty games at this point, that's maybe up off the bricks,
the community leaders signs out there, maybe you know, up

(06:13):
off the bullpen fence, something like that. But it was
just a deep flyout. And then I mean, he proved
me wrong when he hits the home run later in
the game in the eighth inning, and you're like, oh, okay,
well maybe maybe there's hints of it in there right now.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
Yeah, no doubt.

Speaker 3 (06:27):
And let's see his was in the eighth and Cams
was in the seventh, right, yeah, bottom seventh, bottom, the eighth,
back to back innings. You know that that was a
game that you're watching. And when he got to the
seventh inning and Fromber got out, you know, through the seventh,
and you're like, okay, one run, you start to think
this is going to be one of those wasted moments.

Speaker 2 (06:48):
And remember at one.

Speaker 3 (06:49):
Point, was it was it in the sixth or seventh
inning when Frober had a guy on third and got.

Speaker 2 (06:55):
Out of it. Believe it was the seventh. They wouldn't
have that's exactly right.

Speaker 3 (06:58):
So I think it was either it was he got
the last pitch, got him out and stranded the runner
on third base. At that point, you're thinking, this can't
be one of those bloops. Oh you know what it was,
and he hit the guy hit the line drive to
left field. It was that's right, Kyle Carros who's hit
three hundred this year. And I mean, hell, let's you
want to talk about aging yourself. I mean I used

(07:19):
to go to Dodger Stadium on it felt like on
a daily basis when I was going to college and
you know, watching the Dodgers, and then when Eric Carross
went there, it was just like a regular thing. And
now his son's hit three hundred on a major league level.
His kid's a good player. So it kind of looks
like him too. Kind of the same hair, no doubt,
no doubt, little wave to it a little longer. Oh yeah,

(07:40):
looks like his pops. And but he smoked that rope
the left field and I'm thinking if that with it, Yeah,
at that ball's twenty feet to the left. That's a gapper.
And that kids that'd stand on second, possibly third, announce
one to one, and you're thinking, after all this performance,
giving up three hits with it, which would have been
the fourth, and then by not giving him run support,
you've allowed a team to get that one hit that

(08:03):
goes to one ball leaves the ballpark and next thing
you know, you're like, oh gosh, now they went and
scored again later. But at that point you're thinking, well,
this has been a really good performance, but please don't
let you know some guys swing through one and in
contact ball where he gets one of those cheap bloops hits,
and then all of a sudden, the next guy homers
and walker. That's exactly right. Oops, there you go so right,

(08:26):
and you'll take them when they're for you. But I'm thinking,
don't let one run or two runs blow a good performance,
because last night was not only necessary, it had to
be intentional.

Speaker 2 (08:36):
They needed to win last night.

Speaker 3 (08:38):
Can you imagine going into Game three thing and you
already lost the series to this team.

Speaker 1 (08:42):
It's LESSI that hasn't won forty games, so only a
half game up on Marit yet Seattle at that point.

Speaker 3 (08:47):
Exactly right, So it was it was I like the
way they closed it out last night. It was definitely
nice to see.

Speaker 1 (08:54):
So yeah, as we've been talking about Strows win last
night for nothing over the Rockies and from great Jordan
Alvarez home run.

Speaker 2 (09:02):
Great to see that.

Speaker 1 (09:03):
Now chance today to be able to close out the
series with the stopper Jason Alexander on the mound for
the Astros.

Speaker 2 (09:09):
And usually when.

Speaker 3 (09:10):
You you wouldn't say that last spring, No, last spring
hell in Yeah, when he made his debut there in Sacramento.

Speaker 1 (09:19):
I mean that's one of those you know, Hey, who
are you? Oh, I'm you from the future. And let
me tell you about Jason Alexander. You think he's pitching
well to night, Wait until we get to August. He's
gonna be one of the most counted on guys. You
got he is, We're in trouble then there is no
doubt it.

Speaker 3 (09:37):
Uh sorry, I'm just I'm smirking, Triple. He said something
in my ear. We'll we'll keep it all private. Damn you, TRIPLEII.
Remind me what your question was world War time?

Speaker 1 (09:47):
Oh, just about Jason Alexander, You being one of the
most counted on guys.

Speaker 3 (09:50):
Yeah, because we said we don't even know who is
in June and now look at him. You called him
a stopper and in truth, over the last four or
five starts. He has been your most consistent starter. Now
Fromberg obviously got back into it. I thought that, you know,
Hunter Brown pitched pretty damn good, you know, even with
like we said yesterday, even him though, you know, giving
up six hits and two earned runs.

Speaker 2 (10:10):
But in giving up six runs, that's just not like him.

Speaker 3 (10:13):
Even though there's an air at alogy, you just when
you look at it, you want it to be dominant,
right right, And if you didn't see the game, but
when you watch, he was pretty pretty damn good. So
those two front guys took care of their business, even
though the astros didn't help Hunter Brown.

Speaker 2 (10:25):
But you'll take it now.

Speaker 3 (10:26):
You go win a series, because we said win the
series each series and you got a chance to go
do your thing, but you got to sweep teams like Colorado,
and unfortunately for this series that won't be the case.
No won't.

Speaker 1 (10:37):
But you'd like to be able to win this one
and then move on and take on an Angels team
that's been scuffling. And boy, I mean it was bad
for them last night in Arlington. I think they lost
twenty to four. I think was the final where I
want to say that it was multiple position players that
pitched twenty the three even worse, but still multiple position

(10:57):
players that pitched for the Angels in that one. Well,
the Astros have lived that life. I don't think they
want to live that life anymore. I think I think
they're good living that life for the rest of twenty twenty.

Speaker 3 (11:05):
Files to me, like it's hard to give up twenty
runs in a baseball game in Major League Baseball feels
really hard to me to do.

Speaker 2 (11:11):
That, probably, I mean, and especially though too.

Speaker 1 (11:15):
I mean, as bad as the Rangers have been this
year offensively, and boy, I mean they get some bad
news with Vivaldi, it almost kind of does it almost
kind of feel like and I haven't seen anything you
know that's concrete out there, But you think Bochie walks
away at the at the end of the season, especially
to Kevin Polar what you said about that clubhouse and

(11:35):
everything like that, Like you think Boci's just like, hey, look, man,
I don't need this.

Speaker 3 (11:40):
I think he probably here. Here's what I do know.
But and noan Boach, but I don't know what his
decision would be. I know this, as long as he
feels like he's making a difference and they're competitive and
he's healthy you know, sometimes he burnout kicks and these
guys they're like, this is too much. I think Dusty

(12:01):
would have wanted to continue coaching managing. Don't you imagine
that he'll turn No, but no, I'm not talking about
in text sometimes about had the different Dusty would have
kept managing another three years. If it if they would
have worked it out, Sure, I don't think. And you
think about him, you think that he didn't need it anymore.
I mean, he'd proven everything. He's a Hall of Fame exactly. Well,

(12:23):
so Boach, I think on this second opportunity, you come
back because you number one miss it. Number two, you're
healthy and you're feeling good, and you think, you know,
I can make a difference, and immediately did. They went
to the World Series. You say, it's hard to argue
with the meeting. So this is this is what year
two three? That's right, this is year three because last
year they struggled their ass off. In year three. I
think this is one of those going from year two

(12:45):
to year three, it was no brainer. Obviously, you know,
come back trying to you know better what you did
last year, especially when you're coming off the year before
World's Tears went I I would guess that he's gonna
what he'll do judge at this stage. Guys like that
career like him and title Francona be guys like is
to just reevaluate. You don't just reevaluate your players. Are
you having fun? Do you think that you still does

(13:07):
the locker room, still paying attend to the clubhouse, still
paying attention? Is our buy in? And if there is,
and you're having fun and they why not keep you young?
Have fun baseball? Because I doubt Boach is going to
walk away this time and then want to do it.
You know that it's another comeback if unless he walks
away and somebody else hires him and he does it
right away and he says okay because Texas fired him,

(13:27):
if he leaves it with which to me would be silly.
But I think he's one of the best, if not
the best, manager in baseball still, but you got to
get buy in and you got to be all in,
and I don't think he'd do it if he wasn't
all in.

Speaker 2 (13:38):
So I think it's one of those year three.

Speaker 3 (13:39):
Let's reevaluate, Let's reevaluate how you think about me, Let's
reevaluate how I feel about the organization, the direction we're headed.
And if we think that we're head in the right direction,
why not you guys, I mean, you get to stay young, you.

Speaker 2 (13:52):
Be around baseball. Who doesn't like that?

Speaker 3 (13:54):
But it's a grind, and at his stage of the game,
maybe the grind's not for him, But I think he'll
reevalue wait and find out if it's still the same
as it felt when he came back the year they
won the World Series. And if it is, I don't
see why he wouldn't come back.

Speaker 1 (14:07):
You know, we're very used to the grind of a
major League baseball season, and trust me, we've been through
the grinder in twenty twenty five.
