Speaker 1 (00:02):
Saulsbury.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Okay, let's do this.

Speaker 3 (00:08):
Sewn Salisbury, Salisbury to usc Troup, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Dan Matthew, excuse, this is the Sean Salisbury show, all right?

Speaker 1 (00:23):
Getzales on first.

Speaker 4 (00:24):
There's two outs.

Speaker 5 (00:26):
Here's the three, two to Henry Davis, break and pitch
gott it strike three. Ticked it just barely and Caroten
he's able to hold on. That's the fourth strikeout for McCullers.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
And we'll go to the fifth inning.

Speaker 5 (00:38):
Now in Pittsburgh, Astro's nothing in the Pirates nothing first
pitch and he cranks it left field. That one's got
a chance. Canario back still going back up and away,
Kristen Walker one to nothing, Astros Walker takes ken.

Speaker 4 (00:56):
Steep one two run.

Speaker 6 (00:58):
It takes off pitches out done in a second by
Kartini on a bounce. Al two Ve dropped it by,
tagged him out, came off the base, did Pruse. I
don't think al Twove got him initially, but then Cruz
came off the bag with that head first slide. Pirates
deciding whether they want to challenge, and it looks like
they're not going to two outs to two, and that

(01:20):
is hammered deta left field going back on it.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
His Canario at the wall.

Speaker 6 (01:24):
Looking up Silana to run home round for East Soak
Paradus his twelfth long ball of the year and the
Astros leaded three to nothing. Oh two Swinging and a
miss got him on a high fastball, and that is
the ballgame. The Houston Astros take this series opener in Pittsburgh,

(01:45):
winning tonight by a final.

Speaker 4 (01:47):
Of three to nothing.

Speaker 6 (01:48):
The Astros second straight shut out victory, as they have
won eight of their last eleven.

Speaker 7 (01:54):
Swigging to miss, Rowdy is down on strikes that will
finish the ballgame. Amby Orioles have their best win streak.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
Of the season.

Speaker 7 (02:02):
They come to Seattle, they score early and often, they
pound out thirteen hits and they roll five to one,
and they get a happy homecoming return from Colton Kowser,
who hovers at his first.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
Game off of the injured list.

Speaker 8 (02:16):
So a little nice surprise to wake up to this morning.
And away we go here on the Sean Salisbury Show
Sports Talk seven ninety. Dan Matthews here hanging out with you.
Chris Gordy in for the first couple of hours of
the show. Today it's gonna be ross Villereal joined me
in the nine o'clock hour. Astros GM Dana Brown scheduled

(02:38):
to join us nine thirty for his weekly visit and
Tripoli of course hanging out with us too this morning.
But Gordon, you know it's in the movie rain Man,
where you know, Dustin Hoffman's character Raymond himself says one
for good, two for bad. In this case right here,
it was two for good, no for bad. Last night

(02:59):
for the Astros.

Speaker 1 (03:02):
Yeah, that was the that was the unexpected one.

Speaker 9 (03:04):
Did not think that they were gonna win the start
that Paul Skeen's.

Speaker 1 (03:09):
Got, and it's a it's a damn shame for the.

Speaker 9 (03:11):
Pirates, Like you've got You've got the dude who is
an all time, you know, looking like he's gonna be
an all timer on the mound. He goes eight innings
of one run ball and takes the loss. But this
is exactly what we were talking about earlier in the week.

Speaker 3 (03:25):
Dan.

Speaker 9 (03:25):
It was like, you know, yeah, you're facing schemes, but
he as good as he's been. They get him no
run support and they got him zero yesterday. Lance mccullor's
Junior Vintage Lance. He has been absolutely awesome his last
couple of outings, and that is at a perfect time.

(03:45):
It's great to see you love to see it. Christian
Walker with the big dinger off Skeens, and then you're
able to add a little insurance there in the ninth
Sean Duben automatic, Briana Bray automatic, Josh Hader automatic, and
you get it done. That was that was as good
of a win as they've had. But man, what a
what a picture stool. It was early on Skeens and

(04:08):
and mccullor's just going at it.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
Man.

Speaker 8 (04:10):
Yeah, I'm gonna say it exactly how I wrote. It's
in my notes here this morning. Gordy, Lance mccullor's shoverry.
That's exactly what it was last night. The stat line
six innings, seven strikeouts, just a couple of hits, he
walks one, he hits a batter, but he does not
give up a single run in this outing. Two straight outings,
two straight quality starts for Lance mccullor's junior.

Speaker 9 (04:33):
That was that. That was incredible. I mean it really
was to see him look like that. I mean, he
you know, he had seven strikeouts, so you know, not
as many as last time I were in the twelve,
but it took him a couple of innings, but he
really started to get that swing in the mess going.
And I mean he just walks off the mound, super
cocky and confident.

Speaker 1 (04:52):
And that's that's the lance that we knew.

Speaker 9 (04:54):
That's that's twenty seventeen, twenty eighteen, twenty nineteen l plants mccallers.

Speaker 1 (04:59):
So it was awesome to see that.

Speaker 9 (05:01):
And again, uh, I just like all the all those
reports of you know, where the pirates could have trade
Paul Skeens and stuff, you start to believe it now
because if I'm Skeens, why the hell do you want
to stay there? They can't get you any eight you like,
they're they're not surrounding you with any other great talent.
I mean, I know, you know they're they're believing Cabrian

(05:22):
Hayes and uh you know O'Neil Cruz and they're opening
those guys paying out to be something. But man, that's
that's a pathetic baseball team. But kudos to the Astros.
They get done. And I was a little nervous, Like
once McCullers came out after six and Skeens was still
in the game, I was like, all right, Sean Dubin
comes in and and we know Dubin, you know, gave
up a run last weekend. I was like, all right,

(05:42):
let's see if Duben can get back to what you
been doing. And that's what he did, Man, a scoreless inning.
That was a big inning there for Sean Duben. And
by the way, he's gonna be a guest later today
on the Matt Thomas Show. I sure you guys tune
into that, I think.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
At one thirty.

Speaker 9 (05:55):
But Brian Bray and Josh Hater cannot say enough about
how how automatic those guys have been. But yeah, I
mean the east Ok paratus too, coming out of a
little bit of a funk. He had been really struggling
the last the last couple of weeks. For him to
get the insurance to run Homer in the knife, I
thought was big. But man, schemes is fun to watch.

(06:17):
I just pray, hope and pray we don't you know
that he's not wearing do Dodger white and blue or
Yankees pin stripes at some point in the future.

Speaker 8 (06:25):
Yeah, I mean, you know, to the point you just
brought up about, you know, kid Brian Hayes and you know,
guys like Brian Reynolds O'Neil cruz. I mean, I don't
think it's for a lack of trying. But that's their problem,
not the Astros problem, but the other part of it though,
that I mentioned at the beginning, is that you're still
in this neck and neck race for the AO West
with the Seattle Mariners. There's a long way to go

(06:48):
in this, but still last night. That's one of those
that I don't necessarily know, Gordy. If you know the
Astros are able to pull this off, we're gonna say, Oh, man,
remember back to June the third there, Pittsburgh had Paul
Skeins on the other side, and you were hoping to
be able to put together enough offense to be able
to beat them. But you were able to do that,
and then you regain the lead in the West that night.

(07:11):
Oh that was the turning point.

Speaker 1 (07:14):
Oh okay, now that makes sense.

Speaker 9 (07:15):
So I was wondering why you were playing why we
played the highlight of the Orioles winning forward a row.
It's because they beat Seattle and so the Ascroos are
back in first place in the AOS by half a game.
All right, that's uh, that's good to see things you
love to see another Rangers loss. Last night, the A's
have been I mean, they've just been really struggling. They've

(07:36):
lost eight in a row. The Angels still like they've
want two in a row. The Angels every time you
discount them, they're five back. They're still just kind of
hanging around over there. So we'll see, uh, we'll see
what they do this summer. But good to see that.
Good to see that Dan first week at June and
seeing the Astros back in first place in the Al
West certainly an opportunity because now you think about the

(07:57):
rest of the series. Just stole the hard one, right,
you beat Schemes, so I get it. Gusto's on the
Mounta tonight. You don't feel great about that one. But
if you can find a way to win that one
you got fromber going on Thursday, Man, you win tonight,
you start.

Speaker 8 (08:13):
To yeah, I mean it's definitely something that is not
too far out of your mind to think about. I mean,
you know, the Pirate's gonna throw Mike Burrows tonight, who
was zero to one with an eight point six four
eras So, while offense has been a little bit of
a challenge for the Astros, as of recent times.

Speaker 4 (08:31):
I mean, as the Rays just showed you last night.

Speaker 8 (08:33):
You mentioned them beating the Rangers there in Tampa, and
they were able to continue their great pitching ways. I mean,
there's certain organizations that you just look at and you're like,
how the hell do you guys continue to find I mean,
the Astros are that organization, But the Rays, when it
comes to pitching, they are that. They proved that over
the weekend against the Astros, even the two that you
were able to take from them, you had to grind

(08:55):
it out and be able to win it with just
enough offense.

Speaker 4 (08:58):
And then last night you face Paul Skime.

Speaker 8 (09:00):
So I will, even though I've been a guy that
would blame this offense quite a bit for the shortcomings
of this team at times, I will go ahead and
give them a little bit of a break there Gordy
of saying, hey, you faced five straight games of really
good pitching.

Speaker 9 (09:16):
Yeah, I almost thought, like I just thought they were
gonna lose last night, just because of how this offense
is done, you know, in recent weeks, and you're facing
Paul Skins, one of the best in the game, I
just figured they were gonna lose. And so when Christian
Walker hits that home run. I went, well, that might
be it. That might be the run you need. And
I was joking with Greg Rajan to the Chronicle. He

(09:37):
tweeted out, you know, oh gosh, you know, when's the
last time the Aswers won back to back one nothing games.
I'm gonna have to go look that up. Well, luckily
they hit the two run homer in the ninth. He
sat parates and then you don't he tweeted, Well, I
guess I don't have to look that up, but it
made me go look up.

Speaker 3 (09:53):
Dan.

Speaker 9 (09:53):
I said, where's the last time the Askers won back
to back shutouts? And I had to go back and look.
It was over two years ago, April of twenty twenty
three against Tampa. That's the last time the Astros one
back to back shutout games.

Speaker 1 (10:08):
So it just shows you how rare that is. It's
tough to do.

Speaker 9 (10:12):
I mean, your pitching staff has to be strong as hell,
and they have been that the last two you know,
for the two bullpen games where they blew up man,
I mean, just absolute nails for the last eighteen innings.

Speaker 8 (10:25):
Yeah, I've been fantastic for them, and I mean that's
a great point by you of how good this pitching
has been for the team. I mean, I understand you
had the Thursday and Saturday against Tampa last week, but
aside from that, I mean the high leverage guys, they've
been great. You mentioned Sean Dubin, I mean high leverage
Sean Dubin, Are you there for it? I mean, maybe
that's something now that Joe Espada kind of reaching it

(10:46):
in those golf bag of tricks here and saying, hey,
that's another club that I can play. If it's a
lefty heavy lineup right here we go Brian King.

Speaker 4 (10:53):
If it's righty.

Speaker 2 (10:53):
Heavy there in the seventh, that's Sean Dubin's inning.

Speaker 1 (10:58):
Yeah, they've just been so good.

Speaker 9 (11:00):
I mean again, you give him the one hiccup or
and Brian King over the weekend, but overall, hands down,
they've been They've.

Speaker 1 (11:08):
Just been outstanding. And that that was big.

Speaker 9 (11:11):
Again, Pirates offense not great, and that's that's what somebody
tweeted that out about. Mccullor's like, yeah, look, we're all
excited about Lance. He looks great and all this, but
it is, let's be real. The last two offenses he's
looked great against the A's and the Pirates not exactly
the two greatest offenses in Major League Baseball, but the

(11:33):
biggest thing for Lanso he got He got the win
last night, his first decision win in what three years,
I mean, since.

Speaker 4 (11:43):
I know the exact number.

Speaker 9 (11:45):
Twenty Yeah, Tember twenty first, twenty twenty two is the
last time a Lance mcculler's picked up at w in
a game.

Speaker 1 (11:51):
So that was that was pretty big night.

Speaker 8 (11:54):
Six days. Steve Sparks did the math for us. So
Steve Sparks did the math, then we trust the math.

Speaker 9 (12:01):
Yeah, it's almost like a song from Rent. That's how
long it's been.

Speaker 8 (12:05):
It has been. It's been quite a bit. So Yeah,
Lance mccullor is fantastic. Last night defense fantastic for you.
I mean, look for all of the barbs at times
that jose A. L. Tuvey has taken of playing second base,
huge reason why he's been playing a lot of left
field this year. He looked good over at second. You're
able to throw out a couple of runners trying to
steal on you. He steals up bass when he should

(12:27):
have been picked off. I mean, it was just so
many different things in that game last night.

Speaker 4 (12:31):
That you just looked at and said, oh man, this
is just this is too good. And that's why Gordy.

Speaker 8 (12:36):
On X when East Soak Peretis hit that to run Homer,
I immediately said, this is glorious, Like this is fun.
These are fun games to be able to watch. The
one that we saw last night. For all of the
times that we complain and belly ache about this team
they don't have enough offense. This didn't happen in the
seventh inning. Whatever it might be last night had none

(12:57):
of that. It had all positives.

Speaker 1 (13:00):
It did and you know, again, dude against Skeens.

Speaker 9 (13:03):
I was at the game on my birthday last year
when when the Pirates came to Houston, and you know,
there was a lot of LSU fans there because you know,
Paul Skeins won the Colts with LSU and he was
facing Alex Bregman, who went the LSU, and so those
were fun matchups to watch. But ultimately the Pirates won

(13:23):
that game last year, and so you know, it was
kind of spoiled. It wasn't It wasn't fun. Like it's
fun to watch Paul Skans, it's not fun to lose
to them. You still want to see the Astros win.
So that's what made last night good is you got
to see the best of Paul Skans. He was awesome,
But at the end of the day, Astro still won.
So it's kind of a you know, you tip your cap.
He's great, but you did enough to get the win.

Speaker 2 (13:45):
Well.

Speaker 8 (13:45):
I mean, now we're gonna have to wait for is
Hayden Travinsky to one day make his way up to
the Astros organization, and then you can have all those
LSU fans back in the building again. If indeed Paul
Skeens is still a member of the Pirates by then,
I mean, that's that's the other part of it is
maybe they do finally acquiesce and say, you know what,
all right, if you guys are gonna give us the
absolute farm for this guy, we'll do it. I would

(14:07):
just say to the Pirates, for all the bad personnel
decisions they've made over the years, don't make the Luca
equivalent trade for Paul Skeins. You get offered something, make
sure that it absolutely dense that organization if you're gonna
make that trade.

Speaker 9 (14:22):
I believe last time I checked, Hayden Travinsky was signed
by the Astros a month ago and it's playing in
the Florida Complex League.

Speaker 2 (14:30):
Don't don't, don't crush streams.

Speaker 9 (14:34):
I would not put him on the big league club
anytime soon, hanging out the Florida Complex League. You know,
if they're gonna sign him anywhere, maybe ends up in Corpus.
But yeah, that's uh, that's that's that's not happening. But
yeah it's again. I just you can't say now there
was a beautiful night in Pittsburgh too. Can I also
give another hot take?

Speaker 3 (14:53):
Dan?

Speaker 1 (14:54):
I like the five forty star. Yeah, I like. I
like getting home from work and the Astros are already
in action.

Speaker 9 (14:59):
I like sitting in traffic, in rush hour traffic and
listening to the Astros to play baseball.

Speaker 1 (15:05):
I like these East Coast games.

Speaker 8 (15:07):
I'm a fan too, and especially whenever I've got to
do the tenth inning show. I mean, it was nice
last night heading up stairs to the office where I
do it, and you know, being able to put on
the headset and I look out the window and I said,
still light out. I like this, this is this is
this is a nice change. So yeah, it was absolutely
a good night all around. And you know, one more

(15:28):
quick shout out here before we keep the show going
here with the rest of the way is four hours
today here on the show is a huge shout out
to Astros fans.

Speaker 10 (15:39):
Man.

Speaker 8 (15:40):
There were a lot of them out there last night.
Our good buddy David Artists, he sent me a picture.
He was there, My buddy Andy, he was out there.
I think I don't know if Dez was, but I
know that somebody from Apollo Media. They were out there
and you could hear and see a lot of Astros
blue and orange there in the crowd last night at
PNC Park.

Speaker 1 (16:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (16:01):
We We had a caller on the post game show
last week too that that said that he and his
wife were making the trip and and they were going
to drive from I think it's a two hour drive
from Pittsburgh up to Cleveland. So it kind of makes
sense if you were playing a summer vacation. This is
a great week to take the week off. Can't see
Astros in Pittsburgh for three Is it still PNC or

(16:23):
what do.

Speaker 1 (16:23):
They call it?

Speaker 4 (16:24):
Still PNC Park?

Speaker 1 (16:25):
Okay, I can't keep up.

Speaker 9 (16:27):
I mean when they took change Heinzfield and Staple Center,
I just I can't keep up with these stupid names,
but yeah, whatever, uh, but just to see the Astros
three in Pittsburgh and then you make the two hour
drive up north northwest, and then you can go to Cleveland.
You can stop at uh what the the NFL Pro

(16:49):
Football Hall of Fame. You could see the Rock and
Roll Hall of Fame museum, and then what the Astros
in Cleveland for three and that's that's actually a really
nice ballpark too, in the middle of in the middle
of summer when it's not it's those are all nice
ballparks up there. So yeah, that's a pretty good road
trip if you can make it. Hopefully the Astros keep
winning on this road trip.

Speaker 8 (17:07):
As I mentioned with you last night, it's definitely on
the list of parks I want to go and check out.

Speaker 4 (17:12):
All Right, the NBA Finals Game.

Speaker 8 (17:14):
One coming up tomorrow nights in Oklahoma City Pacers and
Thunders playing for the Larry O'Brien Trophy.

Speaker 1 (17:21):
And c J.

Speaker 8 (17:21):
Stroud still not throwing at Sextan's OTA's dealing with general soreness.

Speaker 4 (17:27):
That's what was said yesterday.

Speaker 8 (17:29):
So we will talk about that and much more here
on The Sean Salisbury Show. But mentioning Lance mccullors junior
last night. The performance that he had that changes things.
We'll talk about it here. It is Sean Salisbury Show,
Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (17:45):
This is the Sean Salisbury Show, and his name is
sure Sean really fine. Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 8 (17:55):
A couple and a half months, I would say that
general soreness is usually an every day thing, but again
it is just OTA's.

Speaker 3 (18:04):
It is.

Speaker 1 (18:05):
But I saw I think it was our own.

Speaker 9 (18:07):
Adam Clanton tweeted out, he said, sore from what, Like,
what's what exactly? I mean, like, I get it if
this were in the middle of the season and it
was the bye week but they were still practicing, and
then you said, oh, you know he's oh he's out
with general soreness. You know what exactly is causing his
shoulder to have general soreness? This is voluntary otias they have.

(18:31):
He's not played a game since was that back in
January five months ago? So I don't know to me
that that's it's very fishy. And I've seen a few
people kind of connecting the dots saying, oh, I mean
he must have had some kind of off season surgery
or procedure. But man as much as I love the

(18:52):
Miko God, he has fallen down the track, the the
the avenue of nothing to see here, right, I mean, like,
I get you want to keep stuff under wraps, but
good god, this isn't the Watergate files. Like it's your
quarterback and it's okay to say if he had a procedure,
it's June. What advantage is there to lie and be like,

(19:13):
oh no, nothing happened to him, He's totally fine. I
don't understand these things, Like why hide it? What's the
competitive edge to saying CJ had an all season minor
procedure if that's what happened, but you just say he's
got general soreness, well, sleep crooked, Like why tell us why?
Because you know, even if he slept crooked, that would
have been last week. But here we are in week

(19:34):
two of OTA's and he's still not throwing. Like and
I get it's all over an abundance of caution and
all that, and Aaron Wilson tweeted that I get all that,
but to me, if something's wrong, they're just saying, even
if as minor as it is, hiding it and covering
it up and trying to keep it from the fans.

Speaker 1 (19:51):
I think it's silly.

Speaker 8 (19:52):
Yeah, I mean it's it's one of those two that
you hope. I mean he mentioned sleeping on it wrong.
That brings back a little bit of flashbacks there to
Alex Bregman last year where it was oh, you might
have slept on it wrong. What and I mean kind
of same here, the same deal here. What I'm hoping
is not the case is that he didn't have a procedure,

(20:13):
and then we get close to training camp.

Speaker 4 (20:15):
Yeah, CJ had to have a procedure. It's like, you
boys are.

Speaker 8 (20:19):
Turning into the astros pretty quickly, and that is not
a place you want to be when it comes to injuries.

Speaker 9 (20:26):
Yeah, it's again, I just what's the advantage. What's the
advantage of saying of hiding that he had something done
or you know there's an issue there. Again, like if
you're playing a game this weekend, I totally get it,
Like say, yeah, he's just totally fine, He's gonna be fine,
and hide that because you don't want to expose to
the other team.

Speaker 1 (20:46):
Oh there's a weakness there. You want to target his shoulder.

Speaker 9 (20:48):
But it is freaking June Man, Like we're not even
in a training camp and all that. Like you can
say a guy had had some kind of minor procedure
or had a minor surgery or whatever, it would be
totally fine.

Speaker 8 (21:01):
Yep, we shall see what ends up happening with CJ.
Stroud if indeed he is able to get out on
the field for more than just handoffs over the last
couple of days of ot AS, and then next week
is the mandatory mini camp, and then after that it
is about a month long break before the Texans get
to training camp over there at NRG Parks. So that

(21:23):
is I guess your brief daily look at Texans OTAs.
Like I said here, Gordia, I've made the proclamation last week.
I stuck to it again yesterday with Cole Thompson, and
I'll stick to it here. No deep dives here on
the show. What training with OTAs and mini camp? I mean,
I don't care about Jared Wayne making a great touchdown catch.

(21:43):
I don't care about the third round pick that they
got this year out of USC, the cornerback, how good
he looks in shorts, T shirts and a helmet. The
only thing that's different now is that you get away
from the rinky d ink college day of Bill O'Brien
of oh you earn your stickers around here, We don't

(22:03):
have stickers on helmets, steering ot as and Minnie camp
the dumbest stuff ever.

Speaker 9 (22:08):
Yeah, you say I'm gonna be a good teammate, okay,
trying to be the best teammate I can be.

Speaker 1 (22:15):
I will say I have.

Speaker 9 (22:16):
I did hear some reports that the two rookie wide
receivers look look to be the real deal, Jayden Higgins
and Jalen Jalen Noel?

Speaker 1 (22:25):
So or is it knowl I have?

Speaker 9 (22:27):
It's yeah, But regardless, Iowa State stand up, represent we
got like three of your wide receivers now.

Speaker 1 (22:35):
So uh but but yeah, those guys looking good.

Speaker 9 (22:37):
Is is a good sign because I mean, again, you
need weapons to replace the big off season acquisition last
year of Stefan Diggs was great. But again Nick Casario
doing the whole you know we're gonna we're gonna walk
this back to a one year deal. Yeah, we're real,
real bright, you know. It's so then he walks, and
so you add Christian Kirk and then you draft these

(22:59):
two wide receivers. So certainly something to watch because we
know Tank Dell's not going to be back anytime soon.

Speaker 8 (23:04):
Yeah, I mean aside from that, and miss me with
the this fifth round pick looks like the real deal.
Miss me with this undrafted free agent is a real
steal in a fine Let's see what they look like
once they get in the pads.

Speaker 10 (23:16):
You know what.

Speaker 8 (23:17):
Guess what, Guess when I'll listen to you somewhat when
you bring things like that up to me, either on
Twitter or if I hear somebody on the air say
that is, how do they look in the combined practice
against either the Panthers or the Lions, How they look
in the limited preseason time that they get like, That's
when I'll that's when I'll possibly listen to you. But

(23:37):
until then, I'm going to be healthily skeptical of how
this could look.

Speaker 9 (23:46):
Oh yeah, Gil, we'll get ready for you know, late July,
early August, reports of you know, looked really good at
running back today.

Speaker 1 (23:52):
JJ Taylor.

Speaker 8 (23:55):
Is, British Brooks still around there. British Brooks is still there?
Tell me the British Pas.

Speaker 9 (24:02):
He's the fullback and they have Jacob Johnson is the
backup fall back right now and then Jawar Jordan. Their
six round picks from last year still hanging around, So
oh yeah, there are plenty of campbodies to dissect.

Speaker 2 (24:14):
There you go, there, you go.

Speaker 4 (24:16):
Well, you know everybody can go get their individual one
on ones with those guys, and you know it talked
about how they're gonna they're gonna be the breakout stars
of the twenty twenty five season.

Speaker 8 (24:25):
Like I said, I'll believe it when I see it.
All right, coming up, mentioned about Lance McCullers and how
good he was last night. Is there a massive key
that unlocks a lock for the Astros this year when
it comes to the overall picture of the season. We'll
talk about it right here. It is The Sewn Salisbury Show,
Sports Talk seven ninety The Shawn Salisbury Show continued.

Speaker 2 (24:51):
Gordy, last nights.

Speaker 8 (24:52):
I mean we mentioned, as I have noted here the
shovery of Lance McCullers junior on the mound and what
he has meant for the last couple of games. And
you mentioned something earlier was this being said on Astros
Twitter about kind of like you know, the skepticism of
all right, yeah, he looked good, but he looked good
against the A's and he looked good against the Pirates.

Speaker 9 (25:13):
I just saw somebody bring that up that that's you know,
that's the last two outings that he's had that he's
looked outstanding. And to me, it's okay, it's it's major
league baseball games, and it's it's mcculor's And again, we
shouldn't we shouldn't just chalk anything up to, oh, it's
it's a bad opponent, so he looks good.

Speaker 1 (25:32):
I mean, it's this dude has not pitched in three years.

Speaker 9 (25:36):
So for him to battle back and get out there
and do anything against the big league club, I think
is uh.

Speaker 1 (25:42):
I think his outstanding.

Speaker 9 (25:44):
So yeah, again it's just people kind of poo poo
and stuff, but I think Chaylo room tweet. He said,
since his blow up start against Cincinnati on May tenth,
mccullors is a two twenty one era car across twenty
over twenty innings pitched.

Speaker 1 (25:58):
He is he has been he's been your number three.
That's what you need him to be.

Speaker 9 (26:01):
You need him to be your number three with arragedy out,
and he's been your third best start well.

Speaker 4 (26:07):
And he has absolutely been him.

Speaker 8 (26:09):
I mean he has also been able to cut down
on the walks and that's where I wanted to go here, Gordy,
is that you lose Renel Blanco for the season Tommy
John surgery, and we'll see how long that keeps him
out for even into next year. But you're looking for
somebody that can be able to bridge the gap from
you know what you're gonna get out of Fromber, you
know what you're gonna get out a Hunter Brown. And

(26:31):
the real question has been the middle of the rotation.
Without Renel Blanco, who's going to be able to step
into that spot? Lance mccullars junior.

Speaker 11 (26:38):
He can do this.

Speaker 8 (26:39):
I'm not asking for you know, quality starts every single
time out, but I mean he gives you five and
a third five innings, maybe a six inning here or there,
maybe even two if he completely cuts down on the
walks and he doesn't have a catcher's interference or anything
else where, he doesn't have to throw extra pitches in
an inning.

Speaker 4 (26:56):
Maybe even gets into the seventh every once in a while.

Speaker 8 (26:59):
But still, if you're able to get performances like that
out of Lance mccullor's junior, suddenly I think that it
makes the wish list at the trade deadline a lot
less dire for you in terms of being able to
get a real quality arm as opposed to I think
probably settling for Hey, let's go get somebody that can
maybe as a fit starter, give us five innings and

(27:19):
give us a chance to win games.

Speaker 9 (27:23):
Well, I just caution everybody when it comes to the
trade deadline. I mean, who who says they're going to
make any trade. It's just it's it's the reality of
you know, this farm system, you depleted it in recent
years and say you had to build it back. That's
what Dana Brown was brought in here for, to help
break back the or build back the farm system. Why
in the world would you start trading those pieces away.

(27:45):
I get, you know, oh, we gotta, we gotta get better.
If the Yankees are getting better and this team's getting
better and all that, But at the end of the day,
I think you gotta you gotta roll with what you got.
You can't keep selling off prospects just to go get rentals.
You know, you did that last year with Kakuchi, and
you know it's overall it worked out, if you know,

(28:06):
I think he was pretty good, But that again didn't
even get the pitch in a postseason game for you
because you're ousted that quickly.

Speaker 1 (28:13):
But I would just caution against you know, who are
we gonna go get?

Speaker 9 (28:15):
Who are we gonna go trade like I think they're
looking at going wen't have anything with trade.

Speaker 1 (28:19):
Like the young pieces we have in the system, we
like it, we want to keep well.

Speaker 8 (28:24):
I mean that's where then the question becomes, you know,
is Jacob Melton possibly a guy kind of like you
know we talked about yesterday the comparisons to Joey Loperfdo
and I mean offensively it's kind of looking the same,
although low Berfdo did kind of hit the ground running
a little bit more than Melton has to this point.
But I mean last night, able to work a nice

(28:46):
walk against Paul Skiings, you know, putting together a good
at good played appearance there because obviously a walk is
not that bad.

Speaker 4 (28:52):
But you get my point.

Speaker 8 (28:53):
Still able to do that, but I mean, you know,
it comes down to what can you get out of
Spencer Arraghetti And maybe we'll get a little bit more
of an explanation here in a couple of hours from
astros GM Dana Brown when he joins us last week,
starting to play catch. But still he's probably about a
month and a half conservatively away from returning. Then the
question becomes, do you trust Colton Gordon to be a

(29:15):
guy at the end of your rotation that can be
able to hopefully go deeper in the games and be
somebody that can be able to be a good enough
fit starter for you.

Speaker 9 (29:25):
I like Colton Gordon like I think he's been pretty
steady as far as what he's giving you. Basically every
time that he's given you five innings of three run ball,
last time it was four runs against Tampa. He's giving
you that gives you a chance to win. Look, he's
not a cy young candidate by any means, but for
a guy who's been has to be your number five starter,

(29:47):
all you ask is to give you a chance to win.
And overall, I think he's done that. You know, five
innings of three run ball is what he's averaging. That
that gives you a chance to win. So again, would
like to see him dig a little bit deeper. Would
like to see maybe a six inning appearance. Would like
to see maybe a two run you know, two runs
allowed as opposed to three.

Speaker 1 (30:08):
But overall, Colton Gorton's.

Speaker 9 (30:11):
Been okay, He's he's giving you a chance and honestly,
the last time out. You know when the bullpen blew up,
that's the first time that that's his first loss of
the season. The three previous games Colton Gordon had started.
You the Astros won, So again he's he's he's doing
enough for you. That is the number five. The problem
here is Dan, you're asking these five guys to stay

(30:32):
absolutely one d percent healthy for the next whatever you said,
month and a half, two months that arra Getty gets back,
Like that's a that's a tough ask of of all
these gay Fromber, we need you in bubble wrap when
you're not pitching like Hunter Brown. We need you to
trim your nails and make sure there's no uh, you know,
whatever you call it blisters or anything like.

Speaker 1 (30:52):
We we cannot have anything happen.

Speaker 9 (30:54):
So it's you're you're you're tempting fate here and the
odds are one of these guys will get banged up.
But you know, even if it's just have to skip
a start or two, what do you do then.

Speaker 8 (31:05):
Well, I mean with Fromber, with the Julia Morales peanuts
that of course you know a fan will buy give
the Julia she gives the Fromber. Maybe you need somebody
else in the dugout cracking the shells for him to
be able to, you know, hand him to him and
then he can eat them that way.

Speaker 9 (31:20):
Yeah, and then you know he'll he'll he'll get a
peanut allergy and then maybe the training staff on this
diagnosed that's allergy or talking.

Speaker 8 (31:30):
Oh the little hanging fruits. Sometimes it's it's too good
to pass up. And Gordy, you didn't disappoint there, all right.
Uh speaking of a you know, a thing that was
just brought up here in the last couple of seconds.
Maybe the astros are turning over a new leaf. Here's
hoping we'll discuss here. It is Sean Salisbury Show, Sports
Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 12 (31:50):
Let the celebration start war Sean Salisbury to Sean Salisbury Show.

Speaker 4 (31:58):
Never go full Nick, That's what they're doing right now.

Speaker 1 (32:02):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (32:03):
Nick's talk not gonna dominate here, but it will dominate ESPN.
They woke up steven A. Smith from his vacation. He
was in like, uh, an Adidas warm up suit and
he's on there. He's like, let me tell you about
what the New York Knicks have done here. I'm like,
they woke steven A Smith up from his vacation to
come in to rant on this. So, uh yeah, you

(32:24):
gotta think all those what's all the ESPN morning shows
get up and well, I mean yeah, they can't get
up Lakers and Knicks, News, New York, LA, anything there.

Speaker 1 (32:35):
I mean, they're gonna lead with that. That is that
is your top story.

Speaker 4 (32:38):
Well, don't forget too. I mean, one way or another,
they'll try to shoehorn in the Cowboys one way, you know, somehow,
I mean to you know, be able to have that
somewhere in the conversation today, you know, bring on Mike
Tannenbaum and you know a couple of other guys. You're
just like, why are they here talking about the Cowboys?

Speaker 9 (32:54):
But guys the next fired Tom Thibodeau yesterday. How does
this affect Dak prescott journey and search for a playoff with?

Speaker 2 (33:02):
Is this?

Speaker 4 (33:03):
Is this a harbinger of things to come for Brian
Schottenheimer in Dallas? It's like, wow, okay, now I'm.

Speaker 9 (33:09):
Tom Tom Thibodeaux fired. How does this affect Lebron's legacy?
Has he surpassed Jordan?

Speaker 8 (33:15):
Well, you know that is the rumor out there too, Gordy,
is that you know Lebron maybe his days in LA
that he's going to decide to move on. That people
wondering if indeed he would go to the New York
Knicks this off season.

Speaker 1 (33:28):
I said that years ago.

Speaker 9 (33:30):
I thought Lebron after he won the title in Cleveland,
I thought he should have bounced around the league as
a one year assassin, just joining teams that were already loaded.
Like I thought like that that team that had Chris
Paul and James Harden. It just fell short. I was like, Lebron,
come to Houston for one year, like just just went
away with them, that you could get hit free agency again.

(33:52):
Just keep bouncing around to like whoever's loaded, just join them,
win a ring with them, and then hit free agency again.
I think that would have been the greatest like legacy
ever for Jordan. It's like all with the Bulls and
then you know, a cup of coffee with the Wizards.
I think Lebron it would have been hilarious for him
to get like ten rings as just a hired assassin
every year, just joining a championship caliber team.

Speaker 4 (34:14):
Oh what could have been? Who knows?

Speaker 8 (34:16):
And the NBA off season is usually always much more
exciting than the actual regular season. Hey, Gordy, did the
Astros turn over a new leaf yesterday when it comes
to injuries, because we've found out with Zach Dezenzo that
his injury status has been determined a capsule sprain in

(34:36):
his left hand, and the rest of the report goes
that he has been prescribed with rest in scheduled to
undergo reimaging in two weeks. Gordy, standing ovation, I mean, yeah,
it took it took about three and a half years
to be able to get to this point, and finally,
finally we're no longer doing just the assumptions. I mean,

(34:58):
at least we can only assume that a sign are
being made and that they just say, you know what, Hey,
here's the deal. Keep them off it for a little
bit of time and then let's send him back over
to Houston Methodists, get him in the MRI or whatever,
and then we can go from there.

Speaker 9 (35:14):
Well that I like, I mean that I read that yesterday.
I went how hard was that? I mean, how hard
was that? That's That's exactly that's transparency. That's what the
fans are looking for. Again, you don't owe it to
the fans, but I mean when other teams give full report.
Like I think somebody brought that up a few weeks
ago when the Red Sox had an injured player. They

(35:34):
literally within ten minutes had a tweet out saying, Hey,
this player's having this procedure done. It's gonna be about
probably seven to ten days.

Speaker 1 (35:42):
Blah blah blah.

Speaker 9 (35:43):
You know, it's like, why can't you just do that
instead of going ah, he left with discomfort and we
will revisit that later at a later date. Like you know,
it's just like, Okay, Dezenzo has a le left hand
capsule sprain, whatever the hell that is. Uh, He's been
prescribed with the rest and scheduled to undergo reimaging in
two weeks.

Speaker 1 (36:03):
I mean, it tells us everything tells us.

Speaker 9 (36:05):
The injury tells us kind of the severity, tells us
all right, well check back in in two weeks.

Speaker 1 (36:09):
You know what, we won't ask for.

Speaker 9 (36:11):
Two weeks, Dan, can we get updates on Zach Dezenzo?
Like we know, okay, two weeks till every imaging done.
Like that's that to me that dismisses every question and
worry and concern and all that.

Speaker 8 (36:22):
Well, I mean, and he just brought up a good
point there, I mean, it's the old term, don't borrow trouble,
they borrow trouble. I mean, it's one of those you
guys ask the same questions every single day because you
haven't answered it. That's why there's a reason why questions
continue to be asked. If you don't want them to
be asked anymore, then answer it. If you just go
ahead and rip the band that way, then we're fine.

Speaker 1 (36:45):
How about Tamiko yesterday? Did you hear him?

Speaker 9 (36:48):
He goes all right, guys, that's enough questions on CJ, Like,
oh hang on, buddy, you don't get to decide when
you know the the number of questions we ask about
a certain topic, like and somebody was like, oh, well,
he had already been asked about it, but he hadn't
given a specific hadn't been talked in specifics.

Speaker 1 (37:07):
About CJ yet.

Speaker 9 (37:08):
So again, I just I hate that man, because it's like, again,
it's the whole why you know, people get all pistols
and media there. Okay, if the media goes away, then
you get no coverage and we don't care as much
about the team. So like, that's the that's the reason
why the NFL requires all this. But I I just
couldn't believe that when I heard that from Demika. I mean,
he's he's been pretty good with the media overall, but

(37:29):
that was the first time I hear him go yeah, yeah, guys,
So we're not gonna do this enough questions about CJ.

Speaker 1 (37:35):
No, you don't get to dictate that. The media can
ask whatever the hell they want.

Speaker 8 (37:38):
Yeah, I mean, look, if you want the in house
media of you know, the the in house podcasts and
the you know, the slow motion videos of somebody mossing
somebody with the catch and all of that, then go ahead,
go ahead and get that. And you know, if there's
ever a time that they're two and six during the
season and they're trying to put out posts of somebody
putting on a helmet and saying, we're blocking out the noise.

Speaker 4 (37:59):
The noise is not your problem. You having a bad
football team is your problem.

Speaker 9 (38:04):
Right, Yeah, Lovey Smith and David Cully they tried to
block out the noise.

Speaker 4 (38:10):
Oh god, like that is just one of those don't
don't even get me started about you know, these cutey
little football scenings that have just been regurgitated and overused
so many different times. It's it's it's nauseating, to say
the least.

Speaker 8 (38:23):
Speaking of nauseating things out there, including it, things being said,
including about your Houston Astros and what they could possibly
do during next month, that trade deadline.

Speaker 4 (38:35):
We'll talk about it right here.

Speaker 8 (38:36):
It is shown Salisbury show, our number two straight ahead
right here, Sports Talk seven ninety KB.

Speaker 13 (38:43):
Houston ADHD two Houston iHeart Radio station, the.

Speaker 12 (38:47):
Astrost Rockets, Rockets Basketball, your home for your home teams.
This is Sports Talk seven ninety from the Parsons. That
match in next studios.

Speaker 2 (39:02):
Salsbury House.

Speaker 1 (39:07):
Okay, let's do this.

Speaker 3 (39:09):
Sewn Salisbury, Salesbury, the USC Trouphs, longtime friend Shawn Salisbury.

Speaker 2 (39:15):
Dan matthewscues. This is the Sewan Salisbury Show.

Speaker 4 (39:24):
There in Pittsburgh.

Speaker 8 (39:26):
The Orioles beat the Mariners five to one in Seattle,
put the Astros back in first in the Al West
by half a game. Texas Tech and Texas is gonna
play the first game of the Women's College World Series
Finals tonight in Oklahoma City. Gordy, I think I've mentioned
it to you at numerous times before about the concept

(39:46):
of Peter King theory. But for those of you who
are not familiar with. What I mean is on the
NFL side. There was a time that when Peter King
was still working and I know I dogged him out
a couple of days ago, but this is u something
that fits here. So during the time when he was
working as a full time NFL I don't even know

(40:07):
if he was an insider, but you know one of
the prominent voices of the NFL, Peter King knew more
about the entire league than you did as a Texans fan,
but you probably knew more about the Texans than he did.
This is prime Peter King theory in the MLB in
Major League Baseball, because yesterday you were in studio with me.

(40:28):
We couldn't hear it at the time, but MLB is central.
In MLB Network the Morning Show, they were doing a
segment of possible surprise sellers at the deadline, and Joel Sherman,
New York Post, a longtime Major League Baseball writer, he
was on there and he was mentioning some of those

(40:49):
teams that could be a surprise seller. Listen to what
Joel Sherman has to say about the Astros when it
comes to the trade deadline.

Speaker 14 (40:57):
I'm gonna start with the Astros because I'm kind of
sure what they're gonna do, which is they're over five hundred,
They're in the race. The al isn't going to get
away from them, and their owner, Jim Crane, has always
been definitive that he doesn't believe in rebuilding, and the
team has made the playoffs eight straight years. I think
they'll go for it again. But I'm fascinating because if
you look at it from ten thousand feet learn they

(41:17):
have six starting pitchers on the injured list, four of
them probably.

Speaker 2 (41:23):
Might not come back this year. And what's there?

Speaker 14 (41:25):
A Hunt Brown's real good, frampavalt is real good, but
they don't have depth there. They don't have lefty hitting,
and they're one good lefty hitter. Your Don Alvarez is
got a practice scringer. He might be out for a
while longer. They don't have a deep arm system, and
the core of this great run here has either gone
or aged out.

Speaker 1 (41:44):
I wonder what they'll look.

Speaker 14 (41:45):
Like a third of the season from now, in six
or seven weeks, will they have to think about something else?

Speaker 1 (41:49):
And if they did, what can they do well?

Speaker 14 (41:51):
Fran Bavaldez is a walkier player, like they trade Kyle
Tucker before his walk year.

Speaker 2 (41:58):
Could they get out of that hater?

Speaker 14 (42:00):
To me would be the Andrew Miller of this trade
deadline if they wanted to say, like we do this.
He has three at fifty seven left defter this year.

Speaker 1 (42:08):
He changed the fate of two, three, four. Whoever you
think of teams that would need it.

Speaker 14 (42:12):
And I just want to highlight Eastak parades because they
got him for Tucker. But Cam Smith could go to
third base and every executive I talked to says, I
cannot find the righty hitter in the market. Do you
know right hand hitters is a group six ninety seven ops.
It's the lowest since nineteen eighty nine for the whole
group of right hand hitters in the major leagues. If
you have one with some control, you could really get

(42:34):
a lot for it.

Speaker 8 (42:38):
I mean, he talked himself out of it at the
beginning there, Gordy. That was the beauty of that entire
minute and a half diet tribe that he just went
on with Lauren Shahati is that he talked himself out
of it where he was like, they're not out of it,
They're right there. In the American League West, the Ale
picture is not that far away, and Jim Crane does
not want to rebuild, Okay, full stop at that point,

(43:01):
full stop. This is a situation where it's twofold number one.
I can't think of a league that has people who
are supposed to be more connected, who are more disconnected
from what is actually happening on a daily basis than
people like him, Bob Nightingale, even to some point, Jeff
Passen in Baseball Lark in the NFL. If you see

(43:23):
something from Adam Schefter and you see it from Ian Rapaport,
you can take it as bible.

Speaker 4 (43:28):
It's good to go.

Speaker 8 (43:29):
Those guys have vetted their sources, they know it, they're connected.
Same deal in the NBA with Sean Sharaniam it is
the exact same thing. I just don't understand how there
is not a single guy or woman in Major League
Baseball that has been able to replicate that at the
baseball level, because this is something as simple. This is
the other part of it. This is something as simple

(43:50):
pick up a phone, man like text some people, Hell,
reach out to Chandler Rome or anybody. Before you even
go on TV and say things like this, just you
sound completely ill informed when you have takes like this
because you already talked your way out of it, and
then you're basically just spitballing there at that point because
you feel pressured and cornered and you're not very good

(44:12):
at being able to create content when it comes to that.

Speaker 9 (44:16):
Yeah, I mean a reminder, the the Astros have the
third best record in the American League currently. They are
four and a half back of the Yankees. They are
six back of the Tigers. And I've been saying this
the last couple of weeks. Tigers have been outstanding, They've
been great, but they're bound to hit a skid at
some point. They're bound to hit us a week where

(44:37):
they lose five out of seven and kind of hit
the skids, and all it will take is for that
and you know, perhaps uh, you know, beating the Yankees.
Astros this is still very much in play, could could
still vibe for the best record in the American League.
I mean it is early. It is the first week
of June. So yeah, I I I'm I'm out on

(44:59):
cell I'm out like all that stuff right now with
the Astros. They are they're leading the American League West.
So yeah, anybody who's telling me the Astros need to
sell this or sell that they're not watching the team.

Speaker 8 (45:14):
Well, I mean I had mentioned it earlier on you know,
when I joined Sean here on the show in the mornings,
that if you were kind of in a position you're
three and a half four games out of a wild
card spot, that I mean, you're in contention, But are
you really necessarily in contention? And would it be worth
going for I wondered out loud, would it be worth

(45:34):
the Astros considering the idea of trading fromber if that
were the case, because you could kind of be like
what the Detroit Tigers were last year of saying, yeah,
we're there, but we're not incredibly locked into this.

Speaker 4 (45:47):
Thing right now. So it's not like we're punning on
the season.

Speaker 8 (45:51):
But it's also not like we're putting all our eggs
in one basket here and we're still preparing for the future.
I mean, that is something that I did throw out
there as a possibility. But for everything that you just
mentioned right there, where the Astros are at this moment,
there is no chance in hell, barring some epic collapse
here over the next month and a half, that the
Astros are going to be selling it the deadline.

Speaker 4 (46:13):
If anything, they're going to be looking to add at
the deadline.

Speaker 9 (46:18):
Yeah, so yeah, Joel sher Hermans just saying you haven't
paid attention to what the Astros are doing. That's that's
all I gotta say on that. But but yeah, I mean,
Fromber's been awesome. If you fancy yourself a playoff team,
which they do, why are you trading your second best
pitcher like that makes you worse for prospects? Again, the

(46:38):
word is prospect. As much as we love Cam Smith,
you know, we hope he develops into something. Right now,
he's kind of just a guy. You know, He's not
helping you win games on a nightly basis. He's not
a star yet, So you know that The hope is,
you know that you continue to build here and this
team becomes something this postseason, and then you know, you
do what you do with everybody. You say good by

(47:00):
to Fromber, thanks for the memories, thanks for the run,
But you know that that's that's it. So uh, not
to mention what's what's somebody gonna give up for half
of half a year rental of Fromber. It's not gonna
be anything that's gonna help make you a a you know,
a better team. So uh yeah, it's just I think
the Astros will not be sellers, and I also don't

(47:22):
think the askers will be buyers.

Speaker 1 (47:24):
I think what what the team is, what they're gonna
roll with?

Speaker 8 (47:27):
Well, I mean, and you know, if you do want
to indulge Sherman on this, I mean, wouldn't the Rangers
be more of a surprise possible seller at the deadline
than the Astros would be for I mean, especially to
given how their offense has been to this point. I mean,
I don't know how much time is left to say
on like Marcus Simons deal, but probably the younger guys

(47:48):
not touchable.

Speaker 2 (47:48):
On that team.

Speaker 8 (47:49):
But if the Rangers continue to do this and fall
completely further and further out of this thing, even with
all that starting pitching they have, I would almost wonder
if you have Chris Young in company, they're looking around saying, hey,
do we really need to chase something that's not there?

Speaker 9 (48:06):
Yeah, they've lost six of their last ten. I mean,
it's it's getting ugly. I'm looking at it right now.
Free agents after this year, Tyler Mallley is a free
agent if they wanted to move him, John Gray who's
been injured, Patrick Corbin. As far as relievers, Holby Millner,
Luke Jackson, Chris Martin, Seawn Armstrong are all going to
be free agents, so again, those are all potential pieces.

(48:29):
And then as far as position players, everybody's kind of
locked up. Yes, Simeon's got three more years at twenty
five million plus, see that's not movable, and all their
other pieces are still under years of arbitration. Corey Seeker's
got like six years left at thirty one million, so
he's he ain't going anywhere.

Speaker 1 (48:51):
Yeah, I mean that this is kind of they're they're
they're kind of stuck.

Speaker 9 (48:54):
Maybe maybe they could move Jack Peterson if they wanted,
but I believe he has a player option for next
year at eighteen and a half million, so that's a.

Speaker 1 (49:05):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (49:05):
I mean, if they're gonna sell anything, they're gonna sell
probably one of those starting pitchers. But you know, Tyler Mallley,
I mean he's been really good for them.

Speaker 8 (49:12):
Well again, I mean, just because you're asked to do something,
maybe you know, I don't know, Joel Sherman, next time
you're gonna do something like this. I mean I'm assuming
he probably has Dana Brown's number, or anybody in the
Astros front office that he could reach out to and say, Hey,
you know, you guys, you're thinking about the deadline already, Like,
how are you guys gonna approach this? Like, I'll give

(49:32):
you a good example, Chris. The college game day people
will reach out to beat writers and people who would
be in the know about college programs. So when they're
talking on Saturday mornings, they're usually regurgitating information that's been
given to them by other people that are in the
know and could actually be able to give them an
informed opinion.

Speaker 1 (49:52):
Yeah, Joel Sherman's not doing that.

Speaker 9 (49:54):
He's too busy going Yankees, Yankees, Yankees, Mets, Mets, Mets,
what's wrong with Wan Sodo? That's that's what they're doing
up there. You really want to go hot take, Let's
go hot take? Should should the Red Sox? Dulp Alex Bregman.
Let's let's see what Bregman will.

Speaker 15 (50:08):
We'll end ump.

Speaker 4 (50:09):
Yeah, that's that's the thing.

Speaker 6 (50:11):
Too.

Speaker 8 (50:11):
Is even for as bad at times as it seemed
like it's going for the Astros this year, at least
you have not lost two straight to the Angels, and
find yourself ten games out of first in the Al East,
and oh yeah, Bregman is probably gonna be out for
about another couple of months.

Speaker 9 (50:27):
Hey, I know the Orioles have won four in a
row and maybe they're turning around. But I'm looking on
their roster. They got a lot of impending free agents
of guys they may want to dump. Cedric Mullins, outfielder
Gary Sanchez, relievers Gregory Soto, Sir Anthony Dominguez, starting pitchers.
You got Zach Efflin and Charlie Morton. I mean they

(50:48):
Orioles are are those are some selling candidates there all right?

Speaker 8 (50:52):
Thrown out one name that I wondered if he could
be an astros fits. I mean, I know that you're
not as bullish on it, but you know, a reunion
with Chuck Morton.

Speaker 1 (51:03):
I mean he's just had me be good.

Speaker 9 (51:06):
What I mean, I understood from an emotional standpoint, but like,
why do you want a guy who's not good anymore?

Speaker 8 (51:12):
I mean he has been good as of late. I
mean this beginning of the season was not great, but
I mean we've seen.

Speaker 1 (51:19):
Okay, five starts he's been okay, okay.

Speaker 4 (51:22):
So I mean, look for what I'm looking for out
of fitth starter. I could do a lot worse.

Speaker 1 (51:29):
But what are you giving up?

Speaker 2 (51:30):
I mean, that's just it.

Speaker 8 (51:32):
I mean if if you don't have to give up
the farm for it, then I would say go ahead
and think about it. I mean even too if I mean,
are you really missing much if you trade away, say
a Jacob Melton in a deal like this, that's your.

Speaker 9 (51:47):
Number two prospect? Do you you really want to give
him up for a half year rental of a wast pitcher.

Speaker 8 (51:53):
I just know that you would probably feel like you
are in a better position to be able to make
a run in the postseason with a better op as
a fit starter than what you currently have.

Speaker 9 (52:04):
I agree, but I'm not I would. I mean we're
talking real trade. I'm not giving up my number two
best prospect. You know, maybe an AJ blue ball or Okay,
I don't know, Like go down the list of of.

Speaker 1 (52:19):
You know, how how about a pedro leone? Can we
talk you into a page leone?

Speaker 2 (52:25):
Are you interested?

Speaker 1 (52:26):
Only?

Speaker 4 (52:28):
Are you interested in Taylor Trommel? Possibly? Is that something
that might interest you?

Speaker 2 (52:33):
Yeah?

Speaker 8 (52:34):
Anyway, But the Astros, I think we can agree wholeheartedly
here will not be sellers at the deadline, all right,
coming up next. Uh, it's a wedding season for a
lot of people out there, and a famous wedding happened
over the weekend. But if you have a famous friend,
is it worth it to invite them? We'll discuss right here.

(52:54):
It is Sean Salisbury Show, Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 16 (52:57):

Speaker 2 (54:00):
To the Sewn Salisbury Show on Sports Talk seven ninety.
All right, Sean, what are you hearing out there now?

Speaker 12 (54:10):
The Salisbury's takeout, Salisbury's takeout on the Sean Salisbury Show.

Speaker 8 (54:18):
It is Sean Salisbury Show, Sports Talk seven ninety. Astros
beating the Pirates last night three nothing in Pittsburgh. The
Orioles take out the Mariners five to one, So that
means you're Astros back in first place by half a game.
Don't forget nine point thirty This morning Astros GM Dana
Brown expected to join us for his weekly visit. So, Gordy,

(54:40):
I'm sure you probably saw that Josh Allen and Hailey
Steinfeld both got married over the weekend.

Speaker 4 (54:47):
And haven't seen who some of the other guests were.

Speaker 8 (54:50):
I mean, I gotta believe probably some of Allen's Bill's teammates,
any other friends that he has. I'm sure some of
Hailey Steinfeld's famous, you know, Hollywood friend probably made their appearance.
But did you see an interesting guest that fits the
mold of both of those things? For these people that
did show up in attendance at the wedding.

Speaker 1 (55:13):
I think I saw Joe Burrow was there, But who else?

Speaker 4 (55:16):
Larry David was there?

Speaker 8 (55:18):
Now people wondering because Larry an outspoken Jets fan, and
Josh of course playing for the Buffalo Bills, why the
hell is he there? Well, he's there because Haley's dad
apparently is a big Hollywood personal trainer, and that they've
struck up a pretty good friendship. So the creator of
Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm making his way there to

(55:38):
the nice wedding.

Speaker 1 (55:39):
That they had. I never would have guessed that Larry
David as a personal trainer.

Speaker 8 (55:47):
That was where I saw this story that was immediately
brought up there when they talked about the connection to
the Steinfelds. Is that so we find out that Larry
David actually is working out that's interesting to know. But
Mark Ragel with OutKick did an interesting pros and cons
of having Larry David at your wedding and pro this

(56:10):
is a good one. Seinfeld Kurby Enthusiasm have proven to
be very lucrative. And it's talking about, you know, when
you're going over the list, who do we invite, who
doesn't make the cut, all of those different things that
people like Larry David, who you know could either provide
a nice monetary gift or a nice gift in general,
those are the people that you invite.

Speaker 9 (56:33):
Yeah, I think, you know, sometimes you do that, you
send the invite expecting that person's not gonna come and
just to just to get the gift. I also think
Hailey Steinfeld is so close to Seinfeld. Maybe Larry David
just thought I thought it was Jerry's daughter.

Speaker 8 (56:49):
Or something possibly possibly, And I mean, you know, it's
where we've seen this before of people inviting famous people
to their wedding, like when they're the couple that invited
Peyton Manning and he checked the respectfully have to pass
or whatever the option was, let him know that he
wasn't coming to the wedding, but he did send them

(57:09):
a gift so I mean you do run that. Like,
for example, me and Meghan are going to do our
our wedding in Sidona, Arizona, and we found out that
Stevie Nicks lives there. So when we talked about it,
I said, let's invite Stevie Nicks. What's the worst that
can happen? I mean, either she doesn't respond, which okay, fine,
you know, it was just an invite that we threw

(57:30):
out there and she didn't respond. But maybe then we
get the Peyton Manning treatment, or who knows, maybe she's
at her home in Sedona and she says, yeah, I
like where they're going to be. They seem like nice people.
I'll show up. Did we have Stevie Nicks at our
freaking wedding?

Speaker 1 (57:44):
Dude?

Speaker 9 (57:47):
Yeah, I don't think Stevie Nicks's company your wedding. You can,
you can, you can send the invite, but long shot there.

Speaker 2 (57:52):
Dan, I don't have the hopes.

Speaker 8 (57:54):
But I'm just saying that it's you know, you missed
one hundred percent of the shots you don't take well,
I mean, you know, it's one of those that what
if I went down, you know, down the road in
my life and if I was in a position to
start thinking about some of the regrets I have of
you know what.

Speaker 4 (58:08):
We should have invited Stevie next to our wedding. I
just I don't want to have that on my mind, Gordy,
I don't want to have that on my conscious.

Speaker 1 (58:17):
We were really close to having Paul Wall show up
at ours.

Speaker 9 (58:20):
He we our wedding reception was at Minute Made or
you know, the Union station or whatever, and Paul Wall
was downtown doing a doing a podcast recording or taping
them for somebody, and we were messaging back and forth.
They're like, hey, man, come stop by, free food for booze, whatever,
and the taping went long. Otherwise I think Paul Wall

(58:43):
was showed up.

Speaker 8 (58:44):
That would have been pretty awesome. See I mean again,
the shots you don't take right there. And if Paul Wall,
I mean, if he'd shown up the People's champ I mean,
imagine how much of a legendary night. It already was
a legendary night, I'm sure, but even more legendary. It
would have been a con for having Larry David at
your wedding. We'll complain about how he had to pick
chicken or beef several months prior now I'm gonna take

(59:07):
this away from Larry there because it's one of those.
I mean, you've done the reception as you just mentioned
he did at Union Station. I've seen and done it
all buffets, even just a set. No I didn't want
beef Wellington. Well we're having beef wellington with mashed potatoes
and green beans. That's what you're getting. Go ahead and
enjoy it, or you just don't eat. That's fine, just

(59:27):
enjoy the open bar. But like my brother his wedding
in Megan's brother also did the same thing where we
had such a small wedding party for both of those
that it was just a dinner. So I think for us,
we're going to do the same thing. I'm just having
a dinner. We're gonna go to a nice enough restaurant
and there's a menu, so pick what you want and

(59:48):
go ahead and need it.

Speaker 1 (59:52):
Yeah, I think we did.

Speaker 9 (59:52):
I'm trying to remember what we had. I think it
was Mexican. I think it was like Fijidas and stuff
like that. But no, don't do what I've seen what
some people end up doing when when you go hey,
I prefer not meat like typically you offer some kind
of fish or some kind of a seafood option. But
I've also seen where they go, oh, you must want

(01:00:14):
just straight veggies. Can they bring out a plate and
it's just all like zucchini and squash. It's like, wait,
I didn't want meat, but I didn't want I didn't want.

Speaker 1 (01:00:24):
The garden salad. I wanted some kind of sustenance.

Speaker 8 (01:00:29):
Yeah, I mean, you can't make everybody happy, I guess.
And it's one of those Hey, I invited you, this
is a nice time. Why don't you enjoy it and
stop complaining. I mean, the only other you know wedding
faux pas to me is somebody who asks you, hey, man,
why wasn't I invited to the wedding. Well, it's presumptuous
of you to think that I wanted you there in
the first place, but you weren't invited.

Speaker 2 (01:00:50):
That was the end of it.

Speaker 8 (01:00:51):
Like I'm sorry, Like I can't make everybody happy. You know,
there's only so many seats that we can have. There's
only so many plates for people that we can have.
Not made of money here, So that's just this side
note here.

Speaker 9 (01:01:03):
Well, and that's a crazy part when you start doing
the math and you go like it depends where your
wedding's at and what you're serving and all that. But
sometimes you look at it and go, yeah, so you're
looking at about it seventy five dollars ahead, and then
you really start to go back and look at your
guest list and rethink some of those names. You go, look,
I like this guy, but is he worth seventy five

(01:01:24):
bucks for the night? Like that's you know, it can
get pretty intense.

Speaker 4 (01:01:28):
Oh, it gets better.

Speaker 8 (01:01:29):
So one of Megan's friends got married in Colorado a
couple of years ago, and they were going to allow
for spouses to be at the reception, but not at
the service itself. So Megan, when she told me about it,
I was like, there's then why would I go? There's
no point And her friend, who is kind of kind

(01:01:50):
of a moron, I mean, I'll just go ahead and
say it the way it is, goes well, you know,
I mean, we're not gonna have kids there either, so
maybe they can watch the kids. Oh yeah, that's what
I want to do, is I want to go to
a wedding in air quotes, but then I want to
be able to watch somebody else's kids. No thanks, No,
not interested, Megan. You go you enjoy, have fun and

(01:02:12):
let me know how it is. I'll see the pictures later.
A couple of quick pros here about having Larry David here.
This is what I push back on. Whoever hits the
lottery and sits with Larry David is going to get
some stories.

Speaker 2 (01:02:24):
He's notorious Gordy for not being cordial.

Speaker 8 (01:02:27):
It was a whole episode episode's plural on curb your
enthusiasm of that South African billionaire who wanted him to
come to Atlanta and come to his cocktail party and
be cordial. And Larry was like, I'm not cordial, Like
what do you what do you want from me here? Like,
that's that's not what I am. I mean, same deal
with Jerry Seinfeld. He's said the same thing that no,
I don't do that. I don't hobnob with people I

(01:02:50):
don't know.

Speaker 1 (01:02:53):
Yeah, so you probably don't want to put it. You
want to watch it. You put him at the table.
That's a whole other thing you gotta worry.

Speaker 9 (01:02:57):
About when wedding Danish, Who's at what table you can't
put You can't put strangers with people they don't know.

Speaker 4 (01:03:04):
Yeah, for sure.

Speaker 8 (01:03:05):
A couple of quick you know, one more pro and
one more con here Larry will not overstay his welcome.

Speaker 2 (01:03:10):
I agree with that.

Speaker 8 (01:03:11):
I could see Larry where it's one of those you know,
maybe he gives you a quick goodbye, but then gives
others an Irish goodbye and takes off, and then the
final one. I can totally see this one. Some drunk
idiot is going to accost him about the Seinfeld final
that that that could happen too. Where you could have
somebody that's maybe part of your friend group that's not
in you know, Hollywood, pro sports or anything else where

(01:03:33):
they're not around people like Larry quite a bit. So
they're angst gets the best of them, and they go
overboard with their fandom and it starts to become a
all right, yeah, hey, you're starting to bother him now, like,
you know, back off a little bit.

Speaker 9 (01:03:48):
Yeah, if you're somebody in Hollywood, I don't think I
don't think you going to an average person's wedding is
going to do anything for you.

Speaker 1 (01:03:55):
I think you send a gift and that's it.

Speaker 8 (01:03:57):
You don't go all right, So there you go the
pros and cons of having Larry David at your wedding.
Someone three two on two five seven ninety is the
number to get in on the phone lines. Get back
into the Astros conversation here as last night they were
able to do just enough. What exactly that it is,
we will talk about it right here. It is the

(01:04:18):
Sean Salisbury Show. But not until I tell you about
my new friends here on the Sean Salisbury Show.

Speaker 4 (01:04:26):
One eight hundred car cash.

Speaker 8 (01:04:28):
That's one eight hundred at two two seven at twenty
two seventy four. Now you're asking Dan, what is one
eight hundred car cash. Well, you're maybe thinking about selling
your vehicle, and you've been driving past those dealerships. You've
been thinking about it, and you could do the old
you know, take it in, have the car salesman's car
saleswoman come out there, look at your car, take a

(01:04:50):
look around it, and then they come back. They slide
a piece of paper across the table and you're like, WHOA,
that is far less than I thought I was going
to get for my car. Well, guess what what if
I told you that you have the power, you've got
the trust, you've got the way to know that you're
dealing with professionals who have been dealing in the car
business for over thirty plus years. These people have been

(01:05:12):
at it for some time, and that is exactly what
you get with one eight hundred car cash. Again, that's
one eight hundred, one eight hundred two two seven at
twenty two seventy four. These people are professionals. I mean,
I'm telling you they are going to be able to
give you exactly what your car is worth. And how
many times have you ever gone into a deal hoping
it for one thing and then having to settle for

(01:05:34):
something else.

Speaker 4 (01:05:35):
Don't do that here with one eight hundred car cash.

Speaker 8 (01:05:38):
Again, You're dealing with trained professionals, people who know the
business inside and out, and they will give you exactly
what your car is worth.

Speaker 2 (01:05:46):
And who knows.

Speaker 8 (01:05:46):
It could really surprise you today. You could be coming
away from dealing with one eight hundred car cash saying
to yourself, man, that is much more than I thought
I was going to get. It's one eight hundred car cash.
That's one eight hundred at two two seven twenty two
seventy four. Also online at carcash dot com I Live.
The Sean Salisbury Show continued, according to what Demiko Ryans

(01:06:12):
told reporters yesterday seven one three two one two five
seven ninety is the number to jump in seven one three,
two one two five seven nine zero and Gordy last
night's I mean, we talked about, you know, the offense,
and it was very much at a premium. The Astros
the entire game have five hits, but it was the
two biggest hits of the game that were the difference.

(01:06:35):
As you get the seventh inning Christian Walker solo home run,
then in the ninth after a Jeremy Paanya infield single
you get east Soak peretis hitting one.

Speaker 2 (01:06:44):
Over the wall.

Speaker 8 (01:06:44):
Now, as we mentioned it earlier, you know this is
a little bit of a buyer beware when it comes
to being upset with this Astros offense. You face a
really good pitching staff in the Rays. With Rasmusen last
night against the Rangers was able to add shut them
down in that bandbox of a ballpark at Steinbrenner Field,
So the point still holds with Tampa Bay, they're really good.

(01:07:07):
Then you face the best right handed arm in the
game right now in Paul Skeans, who even at pitch
ninety last night was still dotting up on the outside
with ninety nine miles an hour. Good luck, really when
it comes to it at the plate against guys like him.

Speaker 4 (01:07:27):
No, maybe not.

Speaker 9 (01:07:28):
Yeah, he's yeah, he's special. I mean, Paul Skeens is
really really good. So again for you know, for the
Astros to at least get a runoff of them, that
was better than expected. I know, it came late, took
all of it, the seventh inning for Christian Walker to
break up a nothing, nothing game. But again, like it

(01:07:48):
couldn't have gone better for you. It was mccollors versus Skeens.
It was obviously advantage pitching Pittsburgh, but mccullors I did him.
I know, mccullors went six, Skeens went eight, but mccolors scoreless.
I mean, that's on ninety six pitches. That's that's exactly
where you lance, is exactly where you wished and hoped
he would be at this point in his return, you know,

(01:08:11):
once we finally found out that he was returning this year.

Speaker 1 (01:08:13):
So you know, seven strikeouts, mixed pitches, just the one walk.

Speaker 9 (01:08:17):
I think we touched on it earlier. The fact that
he's had a couple out here, where's one walk?

Speaker 1 (01:08:23):
You can live with that.

Speaker 9 (01:08:24):
The control he's got, the control man he had control
last night and you know, twelve eight strikeouts against Seattle,
twelve strikeouts against the A's, and then seven strikeouts against
Pittsburgh last night. This is vintage Lance mccullors junior. He
is thirty one years old, back off Tommy John and
you know every other injury he's had the last couple
of years, and he is back to looking awesome.

Speaker 1 (01:08:46):
He deserves a lot of credit for all the work
he's put in to get back here.

Speaker 8 (01:08:51):
This is five straight starts for Skeens, two where he
has not allowed more than one earn run. He allowed
an earn run against the Mets and took a no
decision in that one. He allowed only one earn run
against the Phillies in Philadelphia and lost that game, won
the nothing. So that was a tough luck start for
him in eight innings, just like he went eight innings
last night. He got a no decision again allowing only

(01:09:15):
one earn run at home against the Milwaukee Brewers, and
then he did not allow a single run and got
the win in six and two thirds against the Arizona
Diamondbacks there. So, I mean again, if you were going
into that game last night thinking, hey, you can get
two or three runs off Paul Skeens, at least recently.
That is not the case no matter how good your

(01:09:35):
offense is, and some of those offenses I just mentioned
are some of the best in baseball.

Speaker 9 (01:09:40):
Yeah, imagine having five straight starts where you allowed one
run or less and you went at minimum six innings.
Several of them you went eight innings and you only
got the win in one. I mean, that is just
that is pathetic. I mean he must be looking at
the Dodgers, those Dodgers and Yankees lineups, going God, I
f I had that behind he'd have tore.

Speaker 1 (01:10:00):
Wins by now. If you have one of those lineups
behind him.

Speaker 4 (01:10:04):
Hell here, I mean, even with the Astros.

Speaker 8 (01:10:06):
For all of the complaining we've done about, you know,
the shortcomings of this offense, I mean, he probably even
have some of the wins here.

Speaker 4 (01:10:12):
And we've seen some tough luck in games at times
this year.

Speaker 9 (01:10:18):
Yeah, I should say he's made thirteen starts, so I
guess he'd be like, he'd have ten wins by now,
like he would lead all of baseball and wins if
he had any other line up behind him.

Speaker 8 (01:10:28):
It feels like all right, so let's get into a
little bit of rockets sock. I mean, she and I
do see you right there, so we'll get you in
to start the next segment. But could the Rockets at
least have a couple of fronts of competition at this offseason,
one on the playing side in one on the administrative side.
We'll talk about it here. It is the Sean Salisbury Show,

(01:10:49):
Sports Talk seven to ninety.

Speaker 2 (01:10:53):
The Sean Salisbury Show continues.

Speaker 8 (01:10:56):
That is the way that you can get in as
we'll get it started this morning. Was Shena, Good morning, Shena, Hi.

Speaker 4 (01:11:03):
Good morning.

Speaker 17 (01:11:04):
Yeah, Colin, just generally about the game last night. That
was I mean, that's really what it's about with watching baseball.
That was an amazing pitcher's tool. I don't think anybody
can really deny, you know, schemes, the talent he's got.
It's really good, you know, great just to watch him pitch,
you know, seeing that McCullers. He looked great last night.
He didn't have quite the swing and miss out of

(01:11:25):
the zone pitching more with his movement in the zone
last night. It looked like as compared to his last art,
but really freezing the bats and you know, getting the
swing and missing the zone still.

Speaker 4 (01:11:34):
You know, with the movement he's got.

Speaker 17 (01:11:36):
Nice to see that good quality start gets six innings,
you know, because we're gonna probably need our bullpen tonight
with Gusto a little more. Got worried early in that
game with you know, Myers gets the lead off double,
we get him to third base with one out and
we can't get him in. You know, Melton had a
great walk that he managed to work even though it

(01:11:56):
should have been catcher's interference, and Penya are probably least
likely guy to hit into a double play does so,
so that I was really worried at that point. I
thought we squandered our one opportunity against Schemes to score.
But it was nice seeing our new guys with Walker
and then with the insurance runs later with Perettas coming.

Speaker 1 (01:12:16):
Through for us.

Speaker 17 (01:12:17):
So I mean that was that's that was just you know,
really really entertaining game to watch and really just showed
a lot of aspects different things with uh, you know.

Speaker 4 (01:12:26):
Things that you like to see in baseball.

Speaker 17 (01:12:28):
On Karatina Kartini, he's gunning down guys, staying bases too,
something that you know, we've been one of our catchers
to kind of work on it and get up to
so that was really good to see too. So just
kind of pulling in a you know, really enjoyed that game,
and uh just hope, hope we can keep it rolling on.

Speaker 1 (01:12:50):
This road trip.

Speaker 8 (01:12:51):
Absolutely appreciate the call, Sheena. I mean, you know, Gordy,
as we talked about earlier, I mean the three phases
last night, those were what helped you win this game.
Fall offense, you get great pitching out of not only
Lance mccullors junior, but Sean Dubin as we touched on
Brian a Bray, you able to give you a scoreless inning.
And then Josh Hater has been Josh Hater for the

(01:13:12):
sixteen times that you've called on him in save situations
this year. And the Sheena's point, the defense last night,
I don't think we've talked about how good a defense that,
you know, Jose Altuve played at second base, and not
only him, but she mentioned Victor Karattini being able to
actually throw runners out.

Speaker 4 (01:13:29):
These were refreshing things to see.

Speaker 9 (01:13:33):
Yeah, I think defensively, it feels like the assors have
been have been pretty strong this year. I mean, it
doesn't feel like they've had, you know, a ton of errors.
I'm looking at the metrics here, Yeah, I mean they're
they're one of the more fundamentally fundamentally sound, you know,
in terms of fielding percentage there. Let's see you get

(01:13:54):
the Braves, the Cardinals, Phillies, Rangers, Tigers, Race, Meritors, Royals, Dodgers, Yankees,
and then the Astros. I mean they're they're right there
at ninety eight fieldingg percentage. So, uh, you're in the
you're in the top third. It looks like of you know, defensively,
you know, in baseball, and so that's that's been good
because they've played so many different guys too, Dan, I

(01:14:16):
mean that's what's wild is you know, you had Jake
Myers back out there in center. Kam Smith has just
completely owned right field, I mean, outside of like one
or two hiccups in Week one when he was first
starting at the position for the first time ever. Like,
that's just wild to me that he's that good of
an athlete that he's just settled into in at right field.
And then Jacob Melton played center the other day in

(01:14:38):
his big league debut, goes and plays left field yesterday
and made a couple of nice catches with the sun
in his eyes out there.

Speaker 1 (01:14:44):
In left field, Jake Myers, same thing.

Speaker 9 (01:14:48):
It didn't even occur to me until I saw, you know,
where the shadows were falling in the sun directly and
the outfielder's eyes there with some of those fly balls.

Speaker 1 (01:14:56):
So again just really really uh really really big win.

Speaker 9 (01:15:01):
And now again you know it's I would say probably
advantage Pirates tonight with you throw and Ryan Gusto.

Speaker 1 (01:15:09):
But you know, the guy Mike Burrows going for them,
he ain't much better.

Speaker 9 (01:15:12):
I mean he's made two starts and give it a
four earn and five earned in both of those.

Speaker 1 (01:15:16):
So we'll see, we'll see what they look like tonight.

Speaker 8 (01:15:19):
Yeah, eight sixty four e er for Mike Burrows. As
you mentioned, he's going to night for the Pirates. By
the way, Code of five Baseball is an account on
Twitter that does throw out some good interesting tidbits.

Speaker 4 (01:15:32):
Here's one.

Speaker 8 (01:15:33):
Paul Skeins has allowed only nineteen earned runs in thirteen
starts this season, and the Pirates have lost eight of
those games.

Speaker 1 (01:15:43):
Yeah, that's that's wild that, I mean, it's funny.

Speaker 9 (01:15:47):
I saw somebody tweeted where it was it it said,
hard to feel bad for a guy dating a model
that will one day sign a half billion dollar conduct.
But the Pirates have made it possible. Uh, if you're
if you're a Pittsburgh fan, man that that is a
tough go. You've got a generational tech. You've basically got
Nolan Ryan on the mountain and you're getting him no
run support and basically going to run him, run him

(01:16:09):
away from there as soon as he can get out
of there, because you can't you can't do anything to
back them up.

Speaker 4 (01:16:15):
Yeah, I mean there's a reason why sell the team.

Speaker 8 (01:16:17):
Chance happen, and I mean you know you had that
fan that got the picture with the principal team owner
a couple of years ago that unfurled the shirt that's
said as much when getting the picture with the owner
of just being like, dude, you've got a great fan
base here, you've got a heritage organization here, which I
mean the Pirates had been known for winning baseball at
certain times the seventies, the early nineties with Jim Leland.

(01:16:40):
You know, just different times that you've seen them be
able to play good baseball. And I mean for all
of the chances they have had to be able to
build up their farm system everything else, it's just kind
of like you just look at them and you're just like, like,
what is it going to take for you guys to
actually be able to somewhat be a serious organization when
it comes to winning.

Speaker 9 (01:17:00):
It's again, I don't I don't care about the Pirates
because you know, I want the Astros to win. But yeah,
if they if they can get a win tonight, somehow,
Ryan Gusto gives them a you know, good outing.

Speaker 1 (01:17:13):
I just I want to see Gusto go a little
bit deeper, Like I just say that.

Speaker 9 (01:17:17):
That's been my biggest concern with him is like lately
it feels like fourth fourth inning or you know, they
send him to the mount in the fifth and he
can't get down. It's like, oh, go get him whatever.
Like I'd like to see Gusto give you five strong tonight,
and I guess this lowly Pirates lineup, I think he
should be able to. So you know, that's that's the

(01:17:38):
thing with me is Gusto has not had a he's
not gotten a win since April twenty third. I mean,
we went the whole month of May with him getting
a handful of starts and not getting a win. So, uh,
you go, he'll be opposed by Mitch Keller tonight, who
has a three seventy three are right, not bad, but
he's a one in seven record because again lack of
run support.

Speaker 8 (01:17:59):
Yeah, Keller will go tomorrow. It's gonna be Burrows tonight.
Mike Burrows.

Speaker 1 (01:18:03):
All right, Sorry, That's what I'm meant on Thursday, Thursday.

Speaker 8 (01:18:06):
There you go from We're gonna go tomorrow two for
the Astros. But speaking of Gusto, something that you brought
up there that I do think does carry over to
the top of the third hour, So we'll do that.
And also to involve you on the phone lines, if
you want to send one three two one two five
seven ninety you can that subone three two one two

(01:18:26):
five seven nine zero is don't forget.

Speaker 4 (01:18:29):
Dana Brown. Gonna join us an hour and a half
from now right here on the Shawn Salisbury Show. Sports
Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (01:19:06):
To usc trop longtime friend Shawn Salisbury.

Speaker 2 (01:19:09):
Dan, matthewscu This is the Shawn Salisbury Show.

Speaker 8 (01:19:18):
Three nothing over the Pirates and even more good news,
the Orioles beat the Mariners in Seattle. So that means
you're waking up this morning to the Astros being back
in first place in the American League West. The NBA
Finals Game one coming up tomorrow night in Oklahoma City,
the Pacers and the Thunder for the Larry O'Brian Trophy. Gordy,

(01:19:38):
real quick, before we get back into the Astros conversation,
did you see that the Pacers had to endure a
flight diversion yesterday because apparently tornado sirens were going off
in downtown Oklahoma City, some bad weather coming through there
in the Sooner State, And that the Pacers were on
their way down to Oklahoma City and told no, kick

(01:20:00):
over to Triple E's hometown, go over to Tulsa and
hang out there for a little bit before you make
your way in.

Speaker 9 (01:20:09):
Not ideal, but see if it. See if it affects
them at all in their in their travel. It's it's
crazy there. There are so many people like I don't
know that you can get really good value.

Speaker 1 (01:20:21):
Right now.

Speaker 9 (01:20:21):
I'm betting on the Pacers. There are so many people
all aboard the Thunder hype train. They just think this
thing is going to be, you know, butt kicking. So
we shall see.

Speaker 8 (01:20:30):
Well, I mean the casuals out there are going to
look at this series and say, oh, man, you know
it's the Thunder, it's the Pacers.

Speaker 4 (01:20:37):
Is it really gonna be that great of a series?

Speaker 1 (01:20:38):
I think it is.

Speaker 8 (01:20:39):
Like, I think the Pacers have a really good team.
They're much more than just Tyrese Aliburton. And we obviously
know who Oklahoma City is.

Speaker 9 (01:20:48):
Yeah, sorry for the casuals out there that Lebron and
and Lebron took the year off and the Warriors took
the year off, and you know, Jason Tatum and the
Celtics couldn't get here. You know, I've been saying it's
time for new blood, it's time for new teams to
win it. I get it's not gonna be the biggest
ratings bonanza, but maybe educate yourself.

Speaker 1 (01:21:09):
Maybe watch some new.

Speaker 9 (01:21:10):
Teams you haven't watched before, folks, instead of just going, well,
Lebron and Steph Curry aren't and to help with them.

Speaker 8 (01:21:16):
Yeah, as it'll get going tomorrow night there in Oklahoma City.
You mentioned Ryan Gusto getting the start tonight, and longevity
has been an issue in his starts as of recent times.
He goes winless. In the month of May, he was
zero to one in the five appearances that he made.
Three of those were starts, and the longest start that

(01:21:38):
he made during that stretch, Gordy was four and a
third innings. The issue, for the most part has been
for him the free passes three last start three before that,
two in the relief outing that he had against the Rangers,
and then the start he had against the Kansas City Royals.
He gets touched up for hits more than it was

(01:21:59):
the walks, but still the walks were an issue with three.

Speaker 9 (01:22:04):
Yeah, I don't know, man, it's you know, at least,
like I've said about Colton Gordon, he you know what's
getting out of Colton Gordon. I don't know what the
hell I'm getting out of Gusto every time he goes
to the mound. I mean, some some have been better
than others. But that's that's the tough part.

Speaker 12 (01:22:19):
Man.

Speaker 1 (01:22:19):
He's your he's your number four right now. You know.

Speaker 9 (01:22:21):
That's that's the tough the tough expectation again, the numbers
aren't bad.

Speaker 1 (01:22:26):
I mean, he's got a winning record three and two.
He's four sixty two e R.

Speaker 9 (01:22:30):
And I understand it's difficult going from the bullpen to starting,
to the bullpen to start.

Speaker 1 (01:22:35):
You know, it could take its toll on him a
little bit.

Speaker 9 (01:22:38):
But you know, I think right now the expectation is
he's kind of got to be that number one starter
for the foreseeable future until we get any good news
on Arraghetti or Luis Garcia or whoever. So Gusto, you
kind of have to settle in here, man. But I mean,
none of this four four innings of two run ball
like it's it's not bad, but god, you're really having

(01:22:59):
a lean the bullpen a ton when he can't deep
not even deep into a game.

Speaker 1 (01:23:04):
But just like give you a five.

Speaker 8 (01:23:06):
Well, one thing that I am going to give him
a little bit of a leashan is that you did
yo yo him for some time. You did have You're
in the starting rotation, all right, You're back in the bullpen,
all right, Hey, we need you to be a starter again. So,
like I do think that that has probably contributed, especially
to the last three starts that he's made.

Speaker 9 (01:23:25):
Yeah, No, doubt it's you know it's but but again,
only two times has he gone you know, into the
fifth inning or gotten through five, so you know, and
that was back in April when he won, went three
and one in a stretch in April and was getting
getting wins and doing his job. So I don't know, man,

(01:23:47):
I need to see against this Pittsburgh lineup, as bad
as they are, I'd love to see Gusto give me
give me five strong to I give me five strong
of one run or two run ball.

Speaker 1 (01:23:56):
And I think the Astros are gonna win that game.

Speaker 8 (01:23:58):
Yeah, this is a Pittsburgh tea that I mean if
we've talked about the Astros with runners in scoring position,
bases loaded, any of those types of situations. So Pirates
team that I think, coming into the last Night's Name game, Gordy,
were twenty eighth out of thirty teams in baseball in
those situations. So I mean, if there is a group
for you to be able to get right against, this

(01:24:20):
would be the group to be able to hopefully get
back on track.

Speaker 1 (01:24:24):
Yeah, no, no doubt this. Again.

Speaker 9 (01:24:27):
They can't even get they can't get their their stud
ace run support.

Speaker 1 (01:24:32):
You know, this is a bad Pittsburgh team. You gotta
go take care of business.

Speaker 8 (01:24:36):
Yeah, twenty two wins on the season for the Pittsburgh Pirates,
So hopefully Ryan Gusto can take care of business tonight,
and strikeouts have not necessarily been an issue for him.
He had that four and a third which was his
best start in terms of innings in the month of
May against the Mariners. Of course, that was the night
that they touched up Brian to bray you for those
runs and were able to win the loan game of
that four game series. But it's also too, I mean,

(01:24:59):
it's just been an eye on his pitch count too.
He did not go above eighty three pitches in an
entire start throughout the month of May, so hopefully he's
built up now. But we talked about it a little
bit earlier, Gordy, of the start you got last night
from Lance mccullors junior, in the start you got the
previous time out against the A's, that's I mean, once
you lost Renel Blanco, you're looking for somebody that could

(01:25:21):
give you the production that Blanco was giving you five
six innings a start. Maybe he'll give up a home
run here or there, which he was doing and you
will still have a chance to be able to win
a game. Mccullor's has done that in much more the
last couple of times out. Dare I say, you have
a very good and a viable option there at the
number three in your rotation. Now it's just now trying

(01:25:43):
to figure out the other two spots.

Speaker 1 (01:25:47):
Yeah, it's still.

Speaker 9 (01:25:49):
It's not gonnake away from me getting nervous every time
mccullors goes to the mound. It just it's it's just
it is what it is at this point. But yes,
I mean he's back, he's earning our trust. The last
four starts of been out, I mean really the first
outing against the White Sox Wash was decent. I mean
he went three and two third and didn't give up
a run, and that was his first return to the mound.

(01:26:10):
But it was all about that Cincinnati game, that stupid
Cincinnati game where it's like his first you know, his
first start back at uh AT, you know in Houston
and Dyke and Park and for returned to the mound
and he couldn't even get on the first inning. I
mean it was it was awfuls what three walks, three hits,
seven earned runs, that's really the start that that really

(01:26:32):
cratered his numbers. And and really even with that considered
in there, the fact that he has a four forty
four e RA, you know, he's he's been outstanding these
last couple of starts, and so the hope is he
keeps building off of that because the look you love
to see it see, and that's he became a punt.
He became a punchline in this town. I mean everybody

(01:26:53):
was like, oh, Lands of Colors, Yeah, the coffee owner,
you know, that's that's what it became.

Speaker 1 (01:26:57):
But give that dude credit for being thirty one years
old to work his way back. He's been awesome well.

Speaker 8 (01:27:03):
And I think what's been even more awesome about what
he's done is that his stuff still looks sharp. I mean,
the fastball is not what it was before the surgeries,
but I mean his breaking stuff, it's still Lance mccullor's
level stuff and being able to get swings and misses,
and at least the last couple of times out I
mean in the twelve innings that he's pitched in those starts,
eighteen No nineteen strikeouts, twelve against the A's and then

(01:27:25):
seven last night against the Pirates.

Speaker 1 (01:27:30):
Yeah, the.

Speaker 9 (01:27:32):
Strikeout stuff has been been outstanding. I mean, you know,
look at his first three returns to the mound this
year four strikeouts is zero against Cincinnati and two against
the Rangers, and then since then eight strikeouts against Seattle, twelve,
you know, Tiza Kerr high with twelve against the A's
and then seven last night in Pittsburgh. That the swing
and the miss is there, his location is there, He's

(01:27:55):
put in the ball where he wants it to. Only
give up two total hits last night and then the
one wall, I mean three out of his last four starts,
he's had just one walk. That is that is incredible.
It shows he's got control of his pitches and he's
he's back in the zone colors doing his thing.

Speaker 8 (01:28:11):
And it's been nice to see, especially too, I mean,
given that he hadn't pitched a competitive game in over
two years and picks up his first win last night
in over nine hundred and eighty six days. Semon one three, two, one,
two five seven ninety is the number to get in
on the phone lines, real quick Killlet squeeze in Brandon.

Speaker 4 (01:28:28):
Good morning, Brandon, Good morning.

Speaker 19 (01:28:30):
Dan, Good morning, Chris Gorry.

Speaker 1 (01:28:32):
How are you good man, Hey, what's up?

Speaker 9 (01:28:37):
Shut Out the Pittsburgh Pirates last night?

Speaker 1 (01:28:41):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (01:28:41):
That was fun to watch and listen to, was it not?

Speaker 2 (01:28:46):
I was watching it?

Speaker 3 (01:28:47):
Yeah?

Speaker 8 (01:28:47):
Okay, So you're hanging out with T. K. Blummer and
Julia and seeing the game. I mean that was fun.
Christian Walker hitting the home run, that's cool, Eastak Perettis.
It was a fun night, Brandon, it was so how
you feeling? We were just talking about Ryan Gusto? You
got him on the game? Is he gonna is he
gonna pitch a jim to night? Are we gonna see

(01:29:09):
a good start out of Ryan Gusto?

Speaker 2 (01:29:11):
Yeah, I'm gonna be playing it, Witer, I'm gonna make
my bed.

Speaker 9 (01:29:16):
Well, come, I'm.

Speaker 18 (01:29:17):
Gonna go play it.

Speaker 4 (01:29:18):
Yeah, responsibilities sometimes that happens. What can you say?

Speaker 8 (01:29:22):
All right, Well, good luck with that, and hopefully next
time we talk to you, we're talking about another Astros win.

Speaker 2 (01:29:29):
I I'll get him gonna win.

Speaker 1 (01:29:31):
So there we go.

Speaker 4 (01:29:32):
All right, Brandon, we'll talk to you soon.

Speaker 1 (01:29:34):
All right.

Speaker 8 (01:29:36):
I appreciate Brandon. We always know we can count on
Brandon here on the Sean Salisbury Show. So you know
he's gonna get Gusto going a little bit later Gordy
on MLB the Show, and hopefully he's able to do
some good things. Speaking of good things, this guy has
done great things here in Houston, but might he be
wanted elsewhere? We'll discuss here. It is the Sean Salisbury Show,

Speaker 16 (01:30:30):
I wasn't on the table ten minutes and seeing better
than I had since the prime of my vision. So
for me, there's nobody better. It's doctor Jeff witze It
at Witsit Vision dot Com. Again, w h I T
S E T T. When you're looking for your eyes
and they are precious. You want an expert, right, You
don't want to leave anything to chance, and you won't
chance anything but success with doctor Jeff witze It. It's

(01:30:50):
Witsit vision dot Com. Wits It vision dot Com. That's
wits It Vision dot Com. The Shawn Salsbury Show continues.

Speaker 8 (01:31:00):
No, now, you know, gonna be hanging out with me
here for the final hour of the show. And then
of course, so I'll be hanging out with Ross for
the first hour of the Matt Thomas Show with Ross
ten to two today right here.

Speaker 4 (01:31:15):
Sports Talk seven to ninety.

Speaker 8 (01:31:17):
Gordy mark Stein, longtime NBA writer, coming out with a
interesting report yesterday that might it might make us some
Rockets fans a little bit nervous. And I said, yesterday
that was when the news came out that Tom Thibodeaux
was let go, But it was actually earlier this morning
that he came out with this.

Speaker 4 (01:31:36):
And this is how the report reads.

Speaker 8 (01:31:38):
The Knicks are expected to show interest in Ema Udoka
Jason Kidd, while Johnny Bryant and Jay Wright are considered
presumed candidates for the job.

Speaker 4 (01:31:49):
Again. According to mark Stein, yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:31:54):
It's come come on, Like, I just love the phrasing there.
First off, it's that uh.

Speaker 9 (01:32:01):
Mark Stein reports late Tuesday the Emeye Adoka and Jason Kidder,
two coaches who are said to intrigue the Knicks, Like
it's it's like, you know, it's almost like the Knicks
of the King sitting up there.

Speaker 1 (01:32:14):
Yes, the idea of the of an Emae Adoak intrigues me.

Speaker 9 (01:32:18):
Tell me more like, no, he's not available, dude, shut up,
Like it's just what I hate and.

Speaker 1 (01:32:24):
Somebody else brought up.

Speaker 9 (01:32:25):
You know, emy Adoka is kind of halfway through this
this deal he signed with the Rockets, and he got
him to the playoffs this year, so you wonder if
a pay raise is coming for him, and maybe this
maybe that's all this is.

Speaker 1 (01:32:38):
Maybe that's EM's agent, maybe just.

Speaker 9 (01:32:40):
Floating that out there to just to say, hey, pressure
of the Rockets a little bit, to am me up
my salary a little bit. But I just looked the
Knicks were good and and and great run. But like,
I don't know if you're e May what you're building
here in Houston with all this young talent is the
Knicks and upgrade, Like is that a better job than
what you have right now, I don't think so well.

Speaker 8 (01:33:02):
I mean, it is an organization that has a fan
base that has not gone away despite not having much
of any success for twenty five years now. And the
success that you did have, you just sent the guy
who led you there out the door. So that's something
else to consider.

Speaker 4 (01:33:18):
But I'm with you. I think that this.

Speaker 2 (01:33:20):
Smells a lot like an agent is.

Speaker 8 (01:33:23):
Hey, you know, I've got a couple of years left
on the deal in Houston, so you know, throw that
out there maybe a little bit. Get the Fertidas move
in just a little bit and get them to up
the salary. As Ema is entering into the second to
last year of a four year, twenty eight and a
half million dollar contract. For the first three years, he
was set to make a six hundred and seventy five

(01:33:44):
million at least to start the deal in twenty three
and twenty four, with annual raises of a quarter million
every single year, and then it was going to finish
up with seven and a half million and twenty six
and twenty seven. I would probably have to believe too
that Number one, Ema Udoka is not going to be
intrigued by this job over the one that he currently

(01:34:04):
has and that probably in addition to any other moves
we have this offseason, we will be getting the report
that e May and the Rockets have agreed on a
contract extension.

Speaker 9 (01:34:14):
Yeah, it's it's just to me, it's such an an
arrogant New York La attitude of we can have any
coach we want. But like, on the flip side, as
good of a job as STUPIDO, just did you really
want to like you really want to be the guy
that follows that, because like they just set the message
you can get to the Eastern Conference finals that don't

(01:34:35):
get fired.

Speaker 1 (01:34:36):
So like, I don't know, Like, to me, that's not
a detractive job.

Speaker 9 (01:34:40):
Why would I want to go there with the pressure
of if anything short of winning a championship, I'm gonna
be on the hot seat every year. I just think
that's absolutely crazy. At least the Rockets are. The expectations were, Hey,
you got to the playoffs this year. We expect to
be a playoff team next year, hopefully go a step
further build a championship contender. But like, are you gonna
fi Mandoka if he only gets to the Western Conference finals, Like,

(01:35:04):
it's just it's it's nutsto.

Speaker 1 (01:35:06):
So to me.

Speaker 9 (01:35:06):
And the and the crazy part is Dan the NBA
Coach of the Year award. You see that like it's cursed.
Every Coach of the Year winner twenty eighteen to twenty
twenty three has been fired, from Dwayne Casey to Mike
Budenholzer to Nick Nurse, Tom Thibodeau, Manty Williams, and Mike Brown.
So this is you know, the NFL is the not
for long league. NBA coaching is not for long. You

(01:35:27):
can go from the outhouse to the or the peentouse
to the out house very quickly.

Speaker 4 (01:35:30):
No, Hey, Mike D'Antoni is available. If they want to
go with Mike D'Antoni.

Speaker 9 (01:35:36):
I actually think that wouldn't that wouldn't be bad, like
his brand of basketball with Jalen Brunston and Bridges and
those guys like I think that might actually that could
be an entertaining.

Speaker 8 (01:35:46):
Now, interesting enough, another coach that I mentioned in there,
Jason Kidd. Now last May he had signed a contract extension,
not sure for how long it would keep him under
contract with the Dallas Mavericks.

Speaker 4 (01:35:57):
But think about a guy like him.

Speaker 8 (01:35:59):
You just undercut him, You just traded away as best
player you had the awkward press conference with him sitting
next to Nico jo or Nico Harrison there when they
were trying to explain why they made the deal, which
you could clearly see on his face. I have no
idea why the hell we made this deal, and I
have no idea why I'm sitting here right now trying
to speak up for why we made this deal. I mean,

(01:36:21):
could Jason Kidd be a guy that looks at the
Mavericks and say, hey, you did me wrong. Now I'm
gonna do you dirty and I'm gonna go somewhere else.

Speaker 1 (01:36:30):
Sure?

Speaker 6 (01:36:30):
Why not?

Speaker 9 (01:36:31):
I hope for all bad things to happen to Dallas,
so sure, let well let him jump ship. I was
reading more on this piece though it says the coaches
among the coaches who are available Taylor Jenkins, Manti Williams,
Mike Budenholzer, Mike Brown, Rank Vogel. I mean, we talk
about in the NFL all the time of retreads. I

(01:36:51):
mean it's always like just retread after retread after retreads.
Who's the Cowboys or the guy who was the Falcons coach?
Uh that got him to the Super Bowl? Dan Quinn,
dan Quinn, dan Quinn.

Speaker 1 (01:37:04):
Is going to be employed for like the next twenty years.

Speaker 9 (01:37:07):
He's just going to be retread bouncing around, retread, retread, retread.

Speaker 1 (01:37:13):
Uh, that's what the NBA is. It's it is just retread.

Speaker 9 (01:37:16):
It's Mike Brown is going to be the head coach
of half the league when it's all said Frank vogel
MANI Williams, just these guys just bounce around.

Speaker 1 (01:37:24):
What one man's trash is another man's treasure.

Speaker 8 (01:37:26):
Well, it's interesting enough that you mentioned some of those
names because they are on this list that CBS Sports has.

Speaker 4 (01:37:32):
Mike Malone.

Speaker 8 (01:37:33):
Of course recently with the Denver Nuggets, he's there, Bootenholzer,
you mentioned him. How about this and how does this
grab you? Jeff Van Gundy up there, eighty nine points
a game?

Speaker 1 (01:37:45):
No way, no way, I cannot see that happening.

Speaker 8 (01:37:49):
It would be fun, yeah, I'm gonna say, and Patrick
Ewing to have him trying to pull Patrick Ewing away
and then falling down and almost being trampled by not
only Youing but everybody else when they were getting into
the fight. I can't remember if that was another one
of the ones they had with the Pacers or if
that was the heat for that one, because remember they
had some knockdown dragouts against Alonso morning in the heat.

Speaker 9 (01:38:13):
What's the connection with right? Why was I seeing his
name trending yesterday or I mean for the next job.

Speaker 8 (01:38:19):
Yeah, I mean just the thought that he left college
and the belief was that he left because of transfer, portal, name, image,
and likeness, all of those things that kind of drove
him away.

Speaker 4 (01:38:29):
And that I mean, he still has some basketball left
in him. But I agree with you on right.

Speaker 8 (01:38:33):
I mean, for him, I think he's living the charmed
existence at this moment that for years John Gruden led.
Now Gruden eventually went back to coaching. But there are
a lot of guys who get into that position and
they're like, wait, you mean to tell me I can
play coach, but I don't actually have to be a
coach and I don't have to deal with other people
in this job, which, especially with the Knicks having to

(01:38:54):
deal with James Dolan, I think that that would be
a long shot. A name that's been mentioned as a
possibility is Dan Hurley at Yukon. Won a couple of
championships already and he's done pretty much everything he needs
to do there. Why wouldn't you if the Knicks come
calling to you. I mean, the Lakers flirted with him
last year and he supposedly said no to that. But

(01:39:15):
I mean, he's a New York, New Jersey guy up
in the northeast. Sure I could see that one.

Speaker 9 (01:39:21):
It's just what for I don't know how often have
the college coaches worked out a guy who's only been
a college coach's whole career and then goes to coach
in the NBA, Like, how often do those ever work out?
I mean, I guess Billy Donovan's had had a long run,
some success, some not so successful. But like I mean,

(01:39:42):
Rick Patino, John Kelli, Perry, I'm trying to think of
the guys like, it's just a lot of those guys
that are there, they're just good college I guess I
didn't make the connection Jay Wright all those Villanova guys
on the Knicks.

Speaker 1 (01:39:54):
So I guess that that's what people were thinking on
that connection.

Speaker 8 (01:39:58):
Yeah, I mean, Brad Stevens did well in the and
now he's a front office guy. But here's another interesting
one that CBS Sports has a wild card. Chris Paul,
please do that, please please do it? That would that
would be that would be the most New York Knicks thing.

Speaker 2 (01:40:13):
Ever.

Speaker 9 (01:40:15):
That's that's been the bug on the buzz on CP
three ever, even when he was in New Orleans and
then when he was here in Houston. The everybody ever
talked to has said, Chris Paul is going to be
a head coach one day in in the NBA.

Speaker 1 (01:40:27):
So if you want to, you want to jump on
that train, sure go ahead.

Speaker 9 (01:40:30):
I just I just want to send a big message
this morning here, on this June fourth, beautiful morning in Houston.
Send a big old bleep you up to those fans
in New York and say hands off email Udoka even
think about it. He may staying in Houston.

Speaker 8 (01:40:43):
Well, here's the hoping and probably, like I said, it's
going to be interesting to do the show here when
we say Ema Udoka contract extension, Well maybe not so
much interesting because it's going to be expected.

Speaker 4 (01:40:54):
So I think we could probably see that.

Speaker 9 (01:40:56):
Why not if if you're the Rockets, he's been awesome,
you know, oh, one of the best coaches in the league.
That's why you went out and got him and paid
a big money when you did. I mean, I got
no problem tacking on more years of dollars to Emay's
deal right now?

Speaker 1 (01:41:08):
Why not?

Speaker 8 (01:41:09):
Yeah, it's definitely warranted, especially with the season the Rockets
just had and what you're hoping to build on here
going forward. All right, So we talked about a little
bit earlier, but C. J. Stroud and the general soreness,
are we overly concerned. We'll talk about it here. It
is the Shawn Salisbury Show, Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 16 (01:41:26):
You don't need a reason to go to J bar
M Barbecue other than you like great food and great
customer service. How many of you have gone over there
on the weekend, sat out there, brought your dog out
and had some little breakfast tacos or grab some of
those drink or food specials that set out in the
back man yesterday was a phenomenal day, or when the
sun starts to set and said I'm go to have

(01:41:46):
me some barbecue and.

Speaker 2 (01:41:48):
Some of the great sides. Ever, well you got it.
You got the Hall of Fame menu.

Speaker 16 (01:41:51):
You can order with Joe Spot orders, you can order
with you know, with Kelvin Sampson or Clyde drex or.
They got all that Hall of Fame menu, and the
menu is Hall of Fame is great food. Whether I
don't care if it's cheddarsauce, it's a jalapeno, I don't care.
If it's the sides and the potatoes, SLD macacheese. They
got everything you want. So you do not have to
have an event nearby to want to go to Jbarm Barbecue.

(01:42:15):
There is no reservations needed into twenty two oh one Leland.
People are coming from far and wide to go there.
It is the best barbecue and customer service in this state.
So if you're traveling somewhere else for barbecue, stop going
into Jbarn Barbecue. Whether it's the weekend or during the weekend, realize, man,
it's not only efficient, the food's off the charts. And
if you're coming from two miles or two hours away,

(01:42:36):
I would suggest you make Jbarn Barbecue the reason it's
jbarn Barbecue dot com. Jbarn Barbecue dot com. With the
food and the customer service, you're not gonna find it
any better anywhere. Jbar m barbecue dot com.

Speaker 2 (01:42:53):
Live out there. But the Sewn Salisbury show continued, still
throwing it.

Speaker 10 (01:43:01):
Now.

Speaker 8 (01:43:01):
There was the report that last week from Aaron Wilson
that he had a non significant injury, but enough of
a bother in his non throwing shoulder to keep him
from throwing. I believe they said it was a peck
issue that was dealing with him. Maybe I read that wrong,
but still something that was not overly concerning to the Texans.

(01:43:21):
And you mentioned something that Ac mentioned yesterday on the
A team that we'll get into here in just a second,
but we will hear from Demico Ryans right now. As
one of the things that he did deliver was the
update on CJ Stroud, which was part of his opening statement.

Speaker 4 (01:43:37):
Not even a question.

Speaker 20 (01:43:39):
First off, I know everybody's gonna ask first, CJ not
throwing again. There's no concerns with CJ. It's just general soreness.
We're taking extra precaution with him, but he'll be good
to go.

Speaker 8 (01:43:49):
No concerns on my end there, all right, So there
you go, good to go, No concerns, general soreness, all
of those different things we've talked about, Demiko Ryans said.
He continues he was asked what's the timeline for CJ
being able to get back out on the field and
get some work for CJ.

Speaker 20 (01:44:06):
It'll be like I said, he has general soreness and
we're just taking extra pcost with him.

Speaker 1 (01:44:10):
When he's ready to go, he'll be ready to go.
That's it for CJ.

Speaker 20 (01:44:13):
Guys on the question, that's it. That what I said,
that's it for him, like his general soreness, and we're
taking extra precaution with him. We're not gonna rush him
into anything. He'll be fine when at the moment is
for him to be ready to go, he'll be ready to.

Speaker 1 (01:44:26):
Go, all right.

Speaker 8 (01:44:27):
So, I mean, I don't think either of us are
generally concerned here, Gordy, because again we've talked about it,
and I'm mocked it again earlier as I have ever
since OTAs in mini camps got fired up here. Which
mini camp will be next week. Yes, you are three
months away from starting the NFL season. That there is
plenty of time for him to be able to heal up,

(01:44:49):
be ready to go, he'll be ready for training camp,
all of those things.

Speaker 4 (01:44:52):
I get all of that.

Speaker 8 (01:44:53):
But again to the concern that AC brought up yesterday
on the A team, how is this even a thing
when he has taken a single solitary hit now in
almost five months.

Speaker 9 (01:45:06):
Yeah, it's to me, it's you know, they're trying to
act like it's no big deal. But I mean you're
you're making it a big deal by what you're saying.
You know, guys, it's no big deal of it's just
general soreness, sore from what he hasn't been doing anything,
You haven't been playing football?

Speaker 1 (01:45:26):
Why is he sore?

Speaker 15 (01:45:27):
Like?

Speaker 1 (01:45:27):
That's I think those.

Speaker 9 (01:45:28):
Are all fair questions, you know, and then go, guys,
that's gonna be it on the questions on CJ.

Speaker 1 (01:45:33):
No, it's not like you.

Speaker 9 (01:45:35):
You don't get to during a media session. You don't
get to say, you know, dictate, you can't ask any
more questions on this. You can say I'm not gonna
answer any more questions on it. But then when you
do that, all you do is add more allure to
the mystery of what happened to cj shoulder?

Speaker 1 (01:45:51):
Why is it general soreness? Why what is he sore from?
Hasn't done anything, isn't played football in five months?

Speaker 8 (01:45:59):
And I mean in all those points you just brought
up are valid because I mean, that's that's just it.
If it's not that big of a deal, well then
say it's not that big of a deal. And I
mean he's out there, he's handing footballs off he's standing
off to the side while Davis Mills and Keaton Slovas
and I guess yesterday Graham Mertz made his way out
there for the first time. But I mean, you know

(01:46:20):
those guys were able to go through work. I mean, yes,
there is something to be said, Gordy for this time
of year is more for those guys. You don't need
to see CJ strout throw football and think, oh man, yeah, hey,
you know we've got our work cut out for us,
or hey man, this could be the best year he's
had yet You're not going to know that right now.
But it's also where you haven't directly answered the question yet.

(01:46:42):
I mean, these are the same things we've run into
with the Astros before. Gave the standing ovation earlier for
their explanation of the Zach Dezenzo injury, and it's just like, Okay,
if you guys would do that a little bit more,
these questions would not persist. I mean, with CJ to
your point, if Dimiko just says, hey, look, guys, he's
not He's not gonna be on the field throwing during
OTA's Okay, fine, we stop asking. Is he gonna be

(01:47:05):
ready for mini camp? We'll see when we get to
mini camp. That's fine, that's an answer I'm good with.

Speaker 1 (01:47:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (01:47:12):
The only thing I could see is maybe maybe he
had some kind of off season procedure, Maybe there was
something he needed cleaned up in his shoulder or something,
and then the agent comes out and goes and tells that.
The agent dictates to the team, Hey, we don't want
that getting out, you know what I mean. That's the
only thing I could see is is like that otherwise

(01:47:33):
who cares? Like even if he did come out and
say it, that's it. Like, I don't think you're I
don't think you're suddenly gonna have teams in September and
October going, hey we are a CJ had a shoulder
procedure back in April.

Speaker 1 (01:47:45):
We we need to target that shoulder, you.

Speaker 14 (01:47:47):
Know what I mean?

Speaker 9 (01:47:47):
Like, I don't think that's That's not anything that like
anybody's gonna game plan on months from now.

Speaker 15 (01:47:54):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (01:47:54):
This was from Aaron Wilson. CJ.

Speaker 9 (01:47:56):
Strout has not been thirg of voluntary OTA is due
to minors shoulder muscle tightness. He's been out held out
of throwing as a precautionary measure.

Speaker 1 (01:48:05):
Quote.

Speaker 9 (01:48:06):
The issue is not regarded as serious, with one source
stating Stroud could return to full active activities as soon
as next week. Stroud is expected to be fully recovered
by training camp. That's all great, Like, that's all again,
this is much ado about nothing. All we're trying to
find out is why is he sore again? Just say
slept crooked. Just say he was lifting some boxes. What

(01:48:29):
was Mookie Betts the other day stubbed his toe on
the bed, Like you know, it's it's it's stupid, but
you know, at least that's a real legit explanation of
why he's missing time for STROUDI you're like, I don't understand.
What's the big secret cover up here? Just say he
was he was helping a friend move and he pulled
a box and it pulled something in his shoulder strained
it and it's no big deal. It's gonna be fine

(01:48:51):
or just a week or two to rest well. But
the shrouded in mystery is what makes us all keep
asking questions.

Speaker 8 (01:48:58):
Yeah, he's represented by David Milligan, and I understand there's
got to be a little bit of play cating there
because you will be in a contract discussion with him here.

Speaker 4 (01:49:06):
Pretty quickly.

Speaker 8 (01:49:07):
I mean, those negotiations are going to happen sometime this
time next year, we'll be talking about a contract extension
for CJ.

Speaker 4 (01:49:13):
Stroud.

Speaker 8 (01:49:14):
But for you know, any perceived possible dictation out there,
if you're Nick Cassario and the Texans, you'd just be like,
wait a minute, we run the team. You you represent
your guy. I understand you're looking out for your guy,
but that's not how this goes. We'll handle it the
way we want to handle it.

Speaker 1 (01:49:32):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (01:49:32):
Again, it sounds like much you do about nothing. It's
an ot, it's a voluntary ota. Nobody cares if Stroud's
not throwing. All we're trying to figure out is why
is he not?

Speaker 1 (01:49:45):
Okay?

Speaker 15 (01:49:45):
We fight?

Speaker 1 (01:49:45):
It took us. It took us a week to find
out why not.

Speaker 9 (01:49:48):
Like last week they were like they wouldn't even talk
about him in specifics.

Speaker 1 (01:49:52):
It was so generics.

Speaker 9 (01:49:53):
It was everybody here is fine, nothing to see here.
Everybody go back to your homes. Everything's fine. And then
finally a week later of him still not throwing, they
finally come out and go, oh, yeah, you know, it's
a minor, minor shoulder thing, but you know it's fine,
Like we're not even gonna talk about it. I'm done
taking questions about it, Like you haven't begun to explain

(01:50:14):
what it is.

Speaker 1 (01:50:15):
No, Demita, that's just mystery, Like I don't understand why,
why what are you hiding?

Speaker 2 (01:50:21):
Who cares well?

Speaker 4 (01:50:22):
And Demiko Ryan's even said it himself last week and
it led into what I've said about this time of
the year. Nothing is going on.

Speaker 8 (01:50:29):
Yes, you're right, nothing is going on, so there's no
need to be able to, you know, decipher many different things.
But I mean, it does kind of seem like Gordy
that two different things are being said where it's hey guys,
they're on different schedules. Ah, he's just dealing with general soreness,
Like okay, I mean it's it's very astros like, like
how does it get from there to.

Speaker 4 (01:50:49):
Hear that quickly? That's what I can't understand.

Speaker 9 (01:50:53):
At least, Like Jordun was playing baseball and so you
understand why the hand is. But imagine this was the
middle of the off season and you find out Jordan
has a hand injury but he's gonna be fine.

Speaker 1 (01:51:04):
You go, what what, why is his hand hurt?

Speaker 9 (01:51:06):
You hadn't been swinging a bat you hadn't been playing game,
Like I think you can give an explanation on why
CJ's shoulder.

Speaker 1 (01:51:15):
Football? What is it sourced from?

Speaker 10 (01:51:18):
Yeah?

Speaker 8 (01:51:19):
Now, it's definitely something that will probably continue to be asked,
even if Tamiko Ryans is tired of answering the question
until you see CJ. Stroud out there on the field
throwing at Football's good news, Gordy. It's a lot of
guys that chance to take a run if they want
to at this Hollywood starlet. But I also have a
prediction that I think is going to follow through. We

(01:51:41):
will discuss that here. It is the Sean Salisbury Show,
Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (01:51:46):
This is Craig Vigio.

Speaker 4 (01:51:49):
You're listening to Sean Salisbury on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (01:51:53):
Oh fun, you're home of the Strows.

Speaker 8 (01:51:57):
Or at least that she is single, maybe not necessarily
on the dad market just yet, Uh fantastic.

Speaker 9 (01:52:05):
That's great for all the single guys in Hollywood out
there might have a chance.

Speaker 8 (01:52:10):
Well, I mean, I think that the guy that she
was with, Johnson Devino, like I think he was kind
of a normal guy. I think like he owned a
restaurant or something like that. But like he wasn't a
Hollywood type. So that's why I think there's people out
there that wonder if they might have a chance. Oh
it says here he is a film producer. Of course,
he was a film producer. Everybody's a film producer.

Speaker 1 (01:52:31):
Yeah, you got to get in the business, Dan, You can't.
You can't.

Speaker 9 (01:52:34):
Can't be an average Joe at dade a a Hollywood
starlett unless you know Josh Allen getting married to Hailey Steinfeld.

Speaker 1 (01:52:42):
He's just a quarterback, so but but very highly compensated.

Speaker 4 (01:52:46):
All right, Well, I'll get to that in just a second,
because I do think that that does.

Speaker 2 (01:52:50):
Play in here.

Speaker 8 (01:52:50):
But there was the speculation that was going around that
Sweeney had that she had split from her fiance Johnson Devino,
as she had cleaned up her Instagram, which usually when
that happens, people always say, well, there's something happening there,
and also was no longer wearing her engagement ring.

Speaker 15 (01:53:09):
Well.

Speaker 8 (01:53:09):
She recently spoke with The New York Times and confirmed
that the relationship has officially come to an end, and
asking if she's single, she said, yes, I'm learning about myself,
spending more time with my friends, and I'm loving it.

Speaker 1 (01:53:26):
Fantastic are you are you working for the Hollywood Reporter now?

Speaker 8 (01:53:30):
Well, I mean, you know, it's a little sometimes to
get into the issues that I know that a lot
of our audience probably do care deeply about of you know,
guys out there having misplaced hope, but at least hope
nonetheless of Hey, you know, maybe I could take a swing,
Maybe maybe I could see how it works out, kind
of the Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts in notting Hill.

Speaker 4 (01:53:52):
You know that it works out that way.

Speaker 9 (01:53:55):
That would be really funny though, if it came out
that Sidney Sweeney is dating a uh car mechanic from Phoenix.

Speaker 1 (01:54:03):
It's the average guy. He's a mechanic, he's got his
own mechanic shop, and she's dating him.

Speaker 4 (01:54:08):
Now he love his love.

Speaker 1 (01:54:09):
Man.

Speaker 8 (01:54:10):
You know, don't don't uh don't don't discount people's chances
out there. But I have a prediction with with with Sydney.
You know you mentioned Hailey Steinfeld and Josh Allen. I
think that's where she goes next. I think she goes athlete.

Speaker 9 (01:54:27):
Yeah, I could see that. Who's uh, who's available out there?
JJ McCarthy, CJ. Stroud, How about that that'd be fun.

Speaker 4 (01:54:34):
Yeah, there you go, CJ A possibility.

Speaker 8 (01:54:36):
I mean I was wondering out there of like maybe
there's shed go the Kate Upton route of the baseball player,
because baseball players. I mean, you mentioned Paul Skeins, you know,
Libby Done. I mean, I can't remember if it was
you that said it or if I saw this on
Twitter last night. Of it's kind of hard to feel
bad for a guy that has everything going for him,
including dating Libby Done. But here I am feeling bad

(01:54:57):
for Paul Skins.

Speaker 1 (01:55:01):
Right exactly.

Speaker 9 (01:55:02):
Trying to think if there's any as I think most
most of the astros are taken. I don't know if
there's any uh any single astros that that we could
uh hook set up with Sidney Sweeney.

Speaker 8 (01:55:12):
Yeah, I mean because Jeremy Pania now, I mean he's
he's a taken man, Mauricio Dubon taken man. Uh you know,
maybe maybe like you know, Zach Dezenzo could could possibly
slide in there.

Speaker 4 (01:55:24):
Maybe maybe we we try to.

Speaker 8 (01:55:26):
Yeah, I was gonna say, I mean, you know, Dezenzo
be like, hey, you're injured right now. I mean, you know,
maybe not necessarily going the aggressive route of sliding into
the d MS. But maybe, you know, you find a
a channel elsewhere to get the interest out there, and
you know, maybe maybe maybe she'll pick you up on it.

Speaker 1 (01:55:45):
Similar eyes to Zach Decenzo and Sidney Sweeney.

Speaker 4 (01:55:48):
Well, I was gonna say, well, we're looking out for you, Zach.

Speaker 8 (01:55:51):
One that I thought about and and you know, I
don't I don't know what his relationship status is, but
like like a ks Google could make sense to me,
Like I could kind of see that happening. You know again,
you know Kate Justin they met when they were when
when he was with the Detroit Tigers, So I don't know,
you know, maybe maybe maybe he could, you know, throw

(01:56:13):
out their best pitcher in baseball?

Speaker 4 (01:56:14):
What's up?

Speaker 9 (01:56:18):
I like the I like the MLB Hollywood crossover. Let's
let's get more of those going.

Speaker 8 (01:56:23):
That's the thing man, Quarterbacks, soccer players and Major League
Baseball players. Those are the ones that if you're in
those three groups and you're trying to hunt the ladies
out there, you usually will end up in oh oh,
I completely glossed over. One that doesn't get enough credit,
and it absolutely should.

Speaker 4 (01:56:40):
Golfers. Golfers do incredibly well.

Speaker 9 (01:56:46):
They do, but they're all I think none of them
are dating celebrities, right other than Pauline ne Gretzky and.

Speaker 8 (01:56:53):
J Yeah you had well, you had Rory McElroy and
what's her name, God, I can't remember her name right now.
Tennis player Blonde that that Rory and her were together
for some time, which, by the way, too, Speaking of that,
did you hear Blummer's story last night on TV that
I guess he was heading out to play golf on
the off day and getting on the elevator right in

(01:57:14):
front of him, he was like, Rory McElroy, what are
you doing here?

Speaker 15 (01:57:17):
Man?

Speaker 8 (01:57:18):
Well, they're playing the US Open there next week, but
I guess he's already there for a scouting trip. So
so Blumber rubbing elbows with some of the world's.

Speaker 1 (01:57:25):
Best nice Caroline wose Nyaki.

Speaker 4 (01:57:29):
That's who it was, right right, That's who it was.

Speaker 8 (01:57:32):
And then I think like he basically like ghosted her
right before they were about to get married. If I'm
not mistaken, like I think they were going to go through.

Speaker 10 (01:57:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (01:57:41):
Yeah, people give Tiger a hard time, maybe you should
start looking at Rory of just being like, hey, dude,
you know, maybe go ahead and like have the conversation
and then you know, just be like all right, hey,
I'm going to go. But Rory decided not to do that,
so I guess that's his business and we'll leave.

Speaker 4 (01:57:58):
Him to it.

Speaker 8 (01:57:59):
Gordy shit the time this morning, man got Ross coming
in here for the final hour of the show.

Speaker 4 (01:58:05):
Don't forget to bottom of this.

Speaker 8 (01:59:18):
Stroud still not throwing at the moment over at Texans OTAs,
but mentioning the Astros winning last night now a half
a game in front of the Mariners for first place
in the AO West. So the Astros will at least
have twenty four hours to be the first place team
in the American League West and try to hold onto

(01:59:39):
that much like they were in first place going into
Saturday's game and losing it said Saturday afternoons game, which
only the Mariners would go on to win that night,
and they would find themselves back in second place, but
trying to keep themselves there, and they will try to
do so tonight behind Ryan Gusto against Mike Mike Boyer

(02:00:01):
for the Pirates is going to be going for the
Pittsburgh and this one. So we'll have that for you
coming up at seven or excuse me, four thirty is
when it's going to be coming your way for Astros
on deck. See all these time changes everything else of
the sort. That's that's what kind of gets you confused here.

(02:00:21):
And it's actually Burrows, I said Boyer. Burrows, you know
what hamster's off the wheel?

Speaker 4 (02:00:26):
What can I do? Maybe Adrian can rescue me right here.

Speaker 8 (02:00:28):
It is the Sean Salisbury Show at seven one three
two one two five seven ninety Adrian, do your best man?

Speaker 1 (02:00:36):
What's going on this morning? Ah?

Speaker 3 (02:00:38):
You know?

Speaker 4 (02:00:38):
Sometimes the hamster's on the wheel, sometimes it falls off.

Speaker 1 (02:00:40):
What can I do?

Speaker 10 (02:00:42):
Hey?

Speaker 2 (02:00:42):
It happens every day. Only let's play. Us know how
to get by. That's it.

Speaker 4 (02:00:47):
We do our best, right, That's.

Speaker 2 (02:00:49):
It, Gordy.

Speaker 11 (02:00:50):
Every time you are and you remind me of that movie.
Step brother, I'm screaming at the radio.

Speaker 1 (02:00:54):
So have a good day, bubba.

Speaker 11 (02:00:57):
Oh as far as emay, go ahead and flush that.
Let's not even mention that again, because you're gonna have
Houston upset and Twitter gonna blow up for nothing. Lance mccollors, Yes,
I said, Lynce, welcome back. You are no longer mister ATV.
You came out, you let your stones drop yesterday and
you're like, all right, I'm back to Lynce. Welcome back,

(02:01:18):
young man, Christian Walker, welcome learning your money on this contract.
It's nice for you used to show up. You showed
up right on time, right on time. Now we can
keep it going till the cyboard gets back. Whoa, it'll
be rickplay of time.

Speaker 2 (02:01:36):
And uh, CJ. All this about the offensive line over there,
blah blah blah blah blah blah.

Speaker 11 (02:01:44):
People, let's not forget the best protection CJ's ever had
so far was a bunch of rag tags that were
thrown together. So let's remember that I got more faith
in these rag tags than I had in that offensive
line last year. And the economic plane for today, this

(02:02:05):
big beautiful bill everybody's talking about. Yay on tips, you
better go read the small print. That's cash tips that
are tax read seeing Hi, everybody tips by credit card.

Speaker 2 (02:02:17):
Enjoy yourself, peace, appreciate Adrian.

Speaker 8 (02:02:21):
Yeah, I mean that is the thing too, is I
mean triple I'm sure you run into this where I
always love places. Hey, we're cash only, I'm like since
the pandemic, Like seriously, like when when when do you
know that people carry cash? Like I carry cash basically now,
but for for one for one reason only, and that's
for exactly that cash tips. You're you're traveling, you know

(02:02:43):
that probably you know you're gonna have to tip a
shuttle bus driver or even like if you check your
bag with a Skycap maybe you know, give them a
five or something like that to eat Valet. You know,
things like that, like if I know I'm going somewhere
where it's gonna be Valet, but most Valet stops now
they have the key code.

Speaker 4 (02:03:00):
Hey, if you want to hit us up, Yeah, if
you want to.

Speaker 8 (02:03:02):
Hit us up cash app anything like that, because that's
the thing. Like if I go somewhere and I see
it's Valet, then I'm like, oh, man, I might have
to park and walk here because I don't have cash.
And I remembered once you know, the guy was like, hey,
you could park here. I was like, I don't have cash.
He goes, oh, we've got venmo.

Speaker 1 (02:03:17):
I was like okay.

Speaker 2 (02:03:18):
I was like, here I go.

Speaker 8 (02:03:19):
So that's what I did, because yeah, my parents give
me a hard time about that all the time, and
I'm like, look, I mean ever since everything went cashless,
I was like, there's no reason for me to carry it,
so why would I do it?

Speaker 4 (02:03:30):
There's no point.

Speaker 8 (02:03:31):
But anyway, but I mean, you know, Adrian one hundred
percent right about Lance mccullor's junior last night.

Speaker 4 (02:03:37):
That was exactly what.

Speaker 8 (02:03:39):
You would hope to see, probably even exceeding expectations for
what you had from McCullers coming into this season, because
I told you, guys, before he even started pitching again,
to really try to tamp down your expectations of believing
that he's still going to be the guy that he
was before he got hurt. And early on he looked

(02:04:00):
like that was coming true because he's going four innings,
he's not able to get out of the five innings,
and the start against the Reds not even able to
get out of the first inning. And then you get
to start against the A's and you get to start
against the Pirates last nights, and those are starts that
you look at, and I've brought up Renel Blanco because
I feel like the comparison is there. When Blanco was starting,

(02:04:21):
he was giving me a five six innings, two three
four runs in that start. Maybe a home run given
up here or there, but he at least gave you
a chance to be able to win the game. That's
all I'm asking for Lance to do. I'm not asking
for cy Young level work to be done by him
this year. I'm asking for him to be able to
do even less than what he's done the past couple
of times. Out and I'm sure that some of you

(02:04:41):
out there can say, oh, come on, Dan, it's the A's,
it's the Pirates. No, it's still major league hitters. On
the other side, it's still one small mistake that he
makes with a runner on base, that ball going over
the wall, and it's a two to one lead at
that point, and then where do we see the game
go last night? So he did everything and more that
you could hope for out of that start, and as

(02:05:02):
far as you know, things go with CJ and the
offensive line at the moment. I mean, again without doing
a deep dive, which I'm not going to do. The
one day that I was out there for like thirty minutes,
which was last Friday, you had like multiple different guys
working in there. I can't even begin to tell you
outside of probably Cam Robinson at left tackle and Titus

(02:05:25):
Howard somewhere on that offensive line where everybody is going
to shape up. And I mean we'll start to get
a little bit more of an idea of that when
we get the training camp, But for now, I mean
your Demiko Ryans even tell you not much is going
on right now. Okay, fine, Well, if you're telling me that,
then I don't really have to pay close attention to
what you're doing over there and figure that most of
you in the audience feel the same way. So if

(02:05:47):
you don't, well, then there's plenty of other ways that
you can be able to consume that information. It just
ain't gonna come for me, because feel like more of
you right now care about hearing about the Astros or about,
you know, anything else that does.

Speaker 4 (02:06:01):
Not involve the team over there.

Speaker 8 (02:06:03):
I mean a little bit of Rockets talk we can
get into here in this hour too, because Kelly Ico
of the Athletic coming out with some interesting tidbits regarding
what the Rockets could do this offseason. I do think
that is worth getting into. But I mean, you know,
with the Astros last night, say it again, I mean
the three phases for this team were what helped you

(02:06:24):
win this game. You get five hits, but it was
the timely hits that you got. Christian Walker the home
run there in the seventh East Sokpretis after the infield
single by Jeremy Pania able to put one over the
wall and give you the much needed insurance runs, which
it felt like as soon as you hit that home run,
you pretty much knew the way that the Astros pitching
was handling the Pirates last night, that it was going

(02:06:45):
to go their way, and it ended up going their way,
so huge for them to be able.

Speaker 14 (02:06:50):
To have that.

Speaker 8 (02:06:51):
You get strong work out of mention mccullors, Sean Dubin
was great for you last night, the inning of scoreless
work against a right handed heavy part of the Pirates' orders.
So that was the interesting thing of seeing him warming
up in the bullpen and not seeing Brian King up
and you're thinking to yourself, Oh, you know, as King

(02:07:11):
kind of shaky for that seventh inning spot. Now, No,
I think there was a combination of a couple of things.
Sean Dubin has pitched incredibly well since you've brought him
back from the injury, and you had a lot of
right handers in that spot, so you're promoted to high
leverage Sean Dubin now, and he goes out there and
makes the most of his chances and is able to

(02:07:31):
get the Astros through a scoreless seventh and Brian Bray
you kind of a similar looking inning to what Dubin
had where he gives up the single to lead off
the inning, but then you get the runner out at
second after O'Neill Cruz reached on a fielder's choice, but
then he overslides the bag there at second and Jose
Altuve able to grab the ball, reach down, tag him

(02:07:54):
out and be able to pick up your second out
of the inning and no further damage from Pittsburgh at
that point. And then we know what Josh Hater is
at this point now and what he has been, and
he's been fantastic for this team. So we know that
this team can pitch. That is not an issue with
them right now. It's just a question of when it
comes to postseason time and if indeed you are one

(02:08:17):
of the teams in the postseason, are you going to
be hitting well enough to be able to win games,
Because as well as they pitch, if you're able to
do that, then there is reason to believe that this
team can be able to not only make a run
past winning the division, but be able to get even
into the LCS and who knows from there at that point,
depending on how well your team is playing at that point,
that's where things kind of lie with them. And there's

(02:08:39):
still a ton of baseball to be played between now
and then. You've got almost four months of the season
still left to determine who's going to be in the
postseason and what their chances are in the postseason.

Speaker 4 (02:08:51):
And I mean these are things that the Astros.

Speaker 8 (02:08:53):
You still want to get Jordan Alvarez back, You still
want to get Spencer Arraghetti back to be able to
solidify your rotation a little bit. I talked about this
a little bit last night on the show with you know,
guys like Christian Xavier and also Luis Garcia, that with Javier,
it doesn't sound like he's going to be back. I mean,
you know, he threw I think fifteen pitches off the

(02:09:15):
mound a few weeks ago in West Palm Beach, but
haven't heard anything about him since. And then Garcia has
started to ramp things up just a little bit through
off the mound over the weekend over there at dyke
In Park. But even him he comes back, can you
really count on him, you know, arriving back late July
early August and believing that that guy is going to

(02:09:36):
be able to help you out going forward.

Speaker 4 (02:09:38):
I just don't see it.

Speaker 8 (02:09:39):
So we'll see how it all shakes out with the
Astros for the rest of the way this season. As
it stands right now, six games over five hundred for
the first time this season and also a half a
game in front of the Mariners for first place at
the moment. So hopefully they can continue to ride that momentum,
get some of these guys back, and be able to
be the team to beat the American League West for

(02:10:01):
yet another year. Mention the Rockets some interesting some interesting
thoughts on it where they could possibly go this off season.

Speaker 4 (02:10:10):
We'll discuss those right here.

Speaker 8 (02:10:11):
As don't forget Dana Brown going to join us for
his nine point thirty visit here on The Sean Salisbury Show.

Speaker 8 (02:12:19):
But nobody has said what you inferred about Joe Aspota,
not a single person on this station.

Speaker 10 (02:12:26):
No I thought it was. I thought it was Dana
Brown coming on.

Speaker 15 (02:12:29):
No he is.

Speaker 8 (02:12:30):
But I mean you talking about somebody being psychologically impaired.
Nobody has said that. So let's go ahead and get
that straight.

Speaker 10 (02:12:37):
Yeah, they did say that, Yes, Dawn there they said
the people on the.

Speaker 2 (02:12:40):
Who said it? Who said it? Gary? Who said it
y'all did yesterday?

Speaker 17 (02:12:44):
No?

Speaker 2 (02:12:44):
No, who said it?

Speaker 8 (02:12:46):
You're seeing me? And yesterday I don't know the name
of that because I didn't say it. And I sure
as hell know that col didn't say it, so who
said it?

Speaker 10 (02:12:52):
Well, it was said yesterday. So anyway I.

Speaker 8 (02:12:56):
Need, I need, I need actual examples of this being
the case. You can't can't just drop a bomb like
that and then walk away from the grenade.

Speaker 4 (02:13:02):
You can't do that.

Speaker 21 (02:13:04):
So I don't have a name on my radio dial here,
but it was said yesterday that you even the people
on the bench, the players on the bench are questioning
it because they don't know if you're going to have
my back. So that was definitely said yesterday. Okay, anyway, different.

Speaker 8 (02:13:20):
Than questioning the guy's mental acuity, that's that's much different
than doing that.

Speaker 2 (02:13:25):
Gary.

Speaker 4 (02:13:25):
So like, let's let's not get extreme here.

Speaker 21 (02:13:28):
Okay, let's just let's just man up and be as
as as strong own data when you talk to him,
and don't just lobbying softball. So just make sure you
you know when you when you're like that on the
air all the time, you know, showing you got a
big pair of balls, Well when you're talking to him,
I don't lose those balls and man up and talk

(02:13:48):
to him like you've been talking on the air the
last couple of days.

Speaker 10 (02:13:51):
That's all I want to say, and I will be listening.

Speaker 8 (02:13:54):
Well, Gary, when you're my program director, then I'll take
orders from you, but until then, appreciate the time.

Speaker 1 (02:14:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (02:14:01):
Whatever.

Speaker 8 (02:14:03):
The Rockets, Yeah, so let's get into them before we
talk to Dana Brown here in at just a couple
of seconds, says Kelly Iico, who covers the team for
the Athletic throwing out some interesting tidbits about how the
Rockets could go through their offseason. Number one, Reed Shepherd
saw him spot duty last year, a guy that did

(02:14:25):
get on the floor and at times was able to
do some things, but also was struggling offensively, so you
didn't get as much time out of him. But vastly
expanded role next year for Reed Shepherd. Could be interesting
to see what that means for Fred van Vliet. Another
report out there that Van Vliet, with the deadline they

(02:14:46):
have for deciding if they're going to accept the option
of forty four and a half million this year or
if they are going to try to go for a
long term extension, it's a little bit more team friendly.
Those things still there, so we would probably expect Fred
van Vliet be back next year. Cam Whitmore receiving trade
interest that doesn't shock and surprise me. I mean, we
saw that Cam Whitmore was not part of the rotation

(02:15:08):
last year towards the end of the season, that it
was even with what he gave you offensively, that he
was somebody that you didn't feel like you could count
on the defensive end. And if you can't play on
the defensive end, well then Emydoka is not going to
use you. So it'll be interesting to see who out
there covets him this offseason. It sounds like a lot
of teams too, potential Steven Adams replacement Brooke Lopez. Now

(02:15:33):
you get a little bit of it upgrade there offensively,
but you're also losing out on what you get on
the defensive end from Steven Adams and what he meant
for you from a physical perspective, and how he really
helped out alprin Shingoon last year when he went the
double bigs and how that was for opposing teams. You
saw that it helped you out in terms of being

(02:15:56):
able to limit the Warriors in that series and was
a huge and why the Rockets were able to win
three of those games. I think that Steven Adams's back,
But if you do go away from him. You're trying
to help this team out offensively and trying to improve
this team offensively, Well, that's the way that you can
do that. And Jonnis is a target. Availability and price

(02:16:17):
a question for Gianna Santacumpo. I mean, I've said it
all along. If nothing else, listen this offseason. If you're
a Felstone, I know that you want to be able
to try to keep this thing together as much as possible.
But if you're offered a trade proposal out there that
you look at and say, hm, not as bad as
I thought it was going to be. Yeah, absolutely, bring
one of the NBA's best year for sure, let's do that.

(02:16:40):
So that's something the Rockets could consider, and the Sun's
prioritizing the Rockets tenth pick. Of course, the Rockets have
been connected to Kevin Durant for the longest time, so
we'll see if they are indeed going to go that
route this offseason. But as promised, Astro's GM Dana Brown
going to join us here in about five we'll talk

(02:17:00):
with him as he joins us every single week right
here on the Sean Salisbury Show. As we'll continue along
here on your home of the Astros and the Rockets
Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 16 (02:17:09):
Hey, if your current wealth manager isn't hitting it out

to you about the risk tolerance and for one k
rollover and how much money you're going to need to
retire and stay retired, all these things that come to fruition.
Are you prepared for downswings, for inflation, for market in
all those things, for market for national debt?

Speaker 2 (02:17:46):
Are you prepared for it? And if you're not, you
need a wealth manager.

Speaker 16 (02:17:49):
And if you are prepared, good, how about somebody who
stands shouldered shoulder with you that can help you extend
that so when you do retire, you don't have to
come out of retirement.

Speaker 2 (02:17:56):
Because well, I was forced. I don't have any money.

Speaker 16 (02:18:00):

Speaker 2 (02:18:31):
Paid advertisement. I had were value for the Sean Salisbury
Show continued.

Speaker 4 (02:18:39):
Is Dana Brown. Dana appreciate the time.

Speaker 8 (02:18:41):
As always, we'll get the injuries out of the way
first and then we'll get into baseball and we'll start
first with you know, you addressed it over the weekend
with jord On and Dana. You know, you guys went
through this last year with Kyle Tucker of you know,
the injury looks like it's this way, then we find
out later it was another way to see. Deal with
jord On here, is it safe to say after what

(02:19:03):
you guys just went through with jord on that things
will change in terms of how you approach injuries that
maybe you think it looks one way, but you want
to be one hundred percent sure that it's not another way.

Speaker 15 (02:19:15):
I think one of the things that you know we're
going to do here more is get more imaging. Uh.
You know, sometimes we get this imaging early in the injury,
and you know, there's so much inflammation and fluid and
some of these injuries, and so you know, the thing
here is if we can continue to do multiple imaging

(02:19:36):
and then maybe you get a better look and a
little more clear view of what the actual injury is.
And I think that's one of the things that we're
going to do more of going forward.

Speaker 8 (02:19:48):
And I mean on that front, you know, you've even
mentioned it before about you know players, you know, their competitors.
They want to be out there, they want to try
to find their way back. But is it a little
bit of part of the job to Dana of sometimes
you got to protect the player from the player and
just say, hey, look, cautious is the way to go.
We'll we'll go from you know, off of what the

(02:20:10):
medical people tell us before we decide our next step.

Speaker 15 (02:20:15):
Yeah, ultimately, these guys are highly competitive. To get to
this level of baseball, you have to be highly competitive.
And sometimes you know, the guys who are like it
didn't get back. These guys, but they feel well, they
feel better, they feel good. You know, these are some
of the statements you get. And then sometimes you feel like,
okay with that particular imaging, the way that now that

(02:20:38):
the way the player is feeling. You know, you know,
maybe we're out of the woods here, but sometimes you know,
you know, these guys are so competitive, they want to
get back. They're biting at the bit, and you know,
we just have to slow it down a little bit.

Speaker 8 (02:20:52):
Astro's GM Dana Brown joined us for his weekly visit
here on the Sean Salisbury Show. One More Real Quick
on jord On where do things stand with him right now?

Speaker 15 (02:21:02):
Yeah, so, uh, he's just going to continue to rest.
You know, he'll he's not gonna hit and he's not
gonna throw, but he'll continue to rest there. But he'll
he'll be he'll run. He can do baseball activities in
terms of shagging fly balls, but no ticking up the
bat let the hand rest and it should hill. It

(02:21:25):
was a sixty healed and so you know he's progressive.

Speaker 4 (02:21:30):
Two parter here final one.

Speaker 8 (02:21:31):
Injury wise, Spencer Arraghedy playing catch last week, where do
things stand with him? And also Luis Garcia throwing off
the mound in the bullpen over the weekend. Is that
cause to believe that he could be progressing towards a
return this season?

Speaker 15 (02:21:47):
Yes, First on Arraghetty, you know, Arraghetty feels really good.
He's you know, he's throwing flat ground right now. He's
also biting at the bit. I mean, we have to
slow him down because he's ready to cut it loose,
and so he's got to go through a full spring training.
So we have to gradually, you know, bring him back

(02:22:07):
because you don't want to, you know, see any other injury,
you know, other than the thumb, because guys start to
come back too fast, you know, they could hurt their bleak.
There's other things that you have to worry about. So
you have to go through a full spring training. And yeah, Garcia,
he's he's going to be throwing live vps at the

(02:22:28):
end of June, and so we do expect him to
get back sometime in August.

Speaker 4 (02:22:34):
Dana Brown with US and Ross with you here as well.

Speaker 1 (02:22:37):
Dana.

Speaker 8 (02:22:37):
You're always looking to improve the team, and you've always
talked about starting pitching and how important that is. And
there have been the injuries and thankfully lancemcullor's junior back
to back quality starts, so maybe a little bit less
of a need. But what is that like for you
conversing possibly with other teams, and it brings early in
the market and a lot of time teams not being
sellers right now and trying to improve the team in

(02:22:59):
that way rather than later and closer to the trade deadline.

Speaker 15 (02:23:04):
Yeah, Lance has been outstanding. You know, over the last
five starts, we've won, you know four he's with four
and oh in his last five starts, he's been thrown
the ball very well, twenty nine strikeouts and over twenty innings,
right at twenty innings, and so he's been really good.
You know, I'm I'm more on record always saying that

(02:23:25):
we're always in the market for pitching. We know, one
hundred and sixty two games, it's some very long seasons.
So you always have to have a open mind to
acquire pitching because you know the fact that the matter
is the season, so long things happen, guys get hurt,
and so you're always in the market. It's very difficult,
very early right now, not many teams or sellers. It's

(02:23:47):
still early in the process, you know. But we won't
miss any stone on turn. You know, we won't leave
any stone in turn because you know, we're always in
the market for pitching. So if there's something out there
that makes sense for us, we'll definitely be active.

Speaker 8 (02:24:03):
I think for you as a general manager, just throughout
the calendar year, really trying to plan for pitching. And
how different is it now in twenty twenty five than say,
you know, ten years ago or even longer ago, with
these injuries that have been happening, which you can never predict,
but it almost seems like it's almost if.

Speaker 4 (02:24:24):
It's not if, but when with pitching injuries the last
several years.

Speaker 15 (02:24:29):
Yeah, you just have to be very conscious of your
depth and you know, because you know it's like you anticipate,
you know, something will happen. It's it's the nature of
the beast. You know, you're not the only club going
through it. There's multiple clubs throughout baseball that are fighting
an injury bug, and so you have to be prepared
and so you know, thank god, some of our depth

(02:24:51):
has stepped up. We're gonna have some guys coming back
from injuries and so we'll be able to ride the
ship and stay the course. Uh, you know, on this journey.
You know, it's good to see that the team is
playing well right now. We're back in first place, and uh,
you know, our goal is to like get on a
really good run right now. And uh, you know, we're

(02:25:13):
playing well. We're still pitching well, and so the bats
are heating up and you know we're trying to we're grinding.

Speaker 8 (02:25:20):
Through this and a couple of those bats doing I
mean last night it's against a really good pitcher, Christian
Walker able to send one over the wall.

Speaker 4 (02:25:26):
That's good to see out of him.

Speaker 8 (02:25:28):
Yer Diaz has put together some good at bats, but
you know, not one hundred percent back to what I
think we expect from jinor Diaz. What are you seeing
from those guys at bats to lead you to believe
that maybe they could be turning the corner.

Speaker 15 (02:25:41):
Yeah, we're seeing a little bit more pitches. I mean,
that's going to be helpful.

Speaker 17 (02:25:45):
Uh.

Speaker 15 (02:25:46):
I mean Paul Schemes is his stuff is filthy. I
mean he was ninety seven and ninety nine. Heavy sink
and movement on the fastball. Change up was really good,
really good slider. I mean, it's just a a very
difficult guy to navigate. You know, Walker got a really
good pitch there to hit and he took advantage of it.

(02:26:07):
And you know, he's done that a little bit in
the past, you know, with the home run he got
in Arlington against the Rangers and the you know, the
one versus Seattle. You know, Walker, he's turning the corner
and so you know, as I mentioned before, these guys
are grinding, and uh, you know, I really feel that
the bats are turning the corner. We're starting to see

(02:26:29):
more flashes of of of offense and so that's a
good thing. Along with our pitching and our defense. You know,
we start to really heat up with the bats, we'll
go on a nice little run and right down it
feels like we're on the verge of a run.

Speaker 4 (02:26:43):
What did you think of high lever Sean Dubin last night?

Speaker 15 (02:26:48):
Yeah, d been You know, he's been stepping it up
for us. You know, he's throwing the ball very well.
He comes in, you know, he gets stouts and that's
what we like, and he's been really good for us.
You know, this year, we're you know, we're hoping that
he continues that progress. Since he's come off the IL.
You know, he's been he's been doing an outstanding job,
and you know, we gave him an opportunity and high leverage.

(02:27:10):
Yesterday he answered the bell once again, and so you
know he's he's been dialed in again.

Speaker 8 (02:27:17):
Astros GM Dana Brown joining us here on the Sean
Salisbury Show for his weekly visit. A couple more minutes
with Dana. You know, you've talked about it with the
pitching staff and you know, being able to try to
you know, keep it going, you know, with what you've
been able to do in the bullpen. But also you know,
just talked a little bit about Sean Dubin there. But
I mean, you guys had Jordan Weiams the other day

(02:27:38):
on a minor league deal, and I mean I assume
that that that search is always out there for trying
to find guys that have major league experience or maybe
even have potential to be able to, you know, be
somebody that can help you along the way. I mean, like,
just take us through those conversations with with your staff
and how that happens, the scouting that goes in and

(02:27:58):
everything else of the sort where you're trying to be
able to find somebody that you know, maybe you see
they've got the stuff, but they just haven't been able
to put it together at this level quite yet.

Speaker 15 (02:28:09):
Yeah, you know, led by Matt Hogan, you know, Aaron
Doug Juice, you know, both those guys are always in
the grind. You know, you sign a guy like Wings
because of the arm strength and as you mentioned, he's
got some experience and you know, he's a guy that,
you know, the type of guy that are pitching group,
you know, they do pretty well with and our guys

(02:28:30):
have done some really good things with some of these
guys that we've acquired as relievers that we've you know,
kind of got off, you know, got off the market
and they these guys were available and our guys could
tournam into something pretty good. And so with Wings, we
feel like, you know what, there may be some upside here,
and uh, you know, our guys are continually grinding, you know,

(02:28:54):
whether it's our front office group or you know, guys
that we have out there scouting, you know, in the fields,
and you know, our player development continues to send this pitching.
You know, it's a group effort, you know, throughout the
entire organization to continue to grind through these seasons and
try to win ball games.

Speaker 8 (02:29:13):
And I mean along the scouting fronts. We're about a
month away from the draft, and I know that you're
deep into that at the moment. You got Super Regionals
happening in college baseball? Is the draft different now, Dana?
Like where you guys, if you take somebody in the
first sandwich pick round or even in the second round,
there that that's somebody that you're taking with the express

(02:29:34):
purpose of, hey, they can be here pretty quickly.

Speaker 6 (02:29:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 15 (02:29:38):
Look, scouting led by Derrick Latinair and Cam Pandino. Look,
these guys are out in the grind every day. I
try to get out and I see, you know, different things,
and I try to participate and give my two cents
on it. You know, with the goal, as you mentioned
of ultimately getting these guys to the major leagues to
make some type of impact. I think, you know, ultimately

(02:30:01):
being in this grind and and looking at these players
and you try to get these guys that will have
that short stay in the minor leagues if possible. It's
very difficult, you know, but we're not afraid to move
guys along. We feel like we have you know, good
development people, we have good pitching people, you know, are hitting,
Guys are turning the corner, and so look, we're always

(02:30:22):
in the market to get these players. And I know
we grind through this daily, you know, with the draft
coming up. You know, I'm on the phone constantly, you know,
with Campambino, our director, and so look, we're looking for guys,
you know, uh to come up here at some point.
You know, it's very difficult for a guy to get

(02:30:42):
in here, get up in the big leagues within you know,
two years. But you know, we have guys that are
turning the corner. Right Matthews is playing well in Triple A,
and so you know, our goal is to continue grinding
through it and get guys to the big league.

Speaker 8 (02:30:57):
And one of those guys you've gotten up a couple
of games under his belt, Baco of Melton, just whatever
your thoughts been on what we've seen out of him
so far.

Speaker 15 (02:31:05):
Yeah, Melton, you know, he's kind of getting through it.
You know, I love that, you know, he got that
Nfield hit for his first major league hit. He got
that out of the way. I had some really quality
at bats. You know, think about the bat last night
against Skiings. You know, he ended up working out a walk.
I mean he's facing Skiens, who's ninety seven and ninety nine,

(02:31:28):
good breaking ball, you know, good change up, and just
grinding through those at bat and that's what he's going
to see. You know, at this at the major league level,
you're going to see that come out of that bullpeny,
You're going to see those out of some of the starters.
And you know, I look at that at bat as
a guy that's you know, coming into his own he's
making progress and we're looking for some good things from Melton.

Speaker 8 (02:31:50):
Astros GM Dana Brown joins us every single week here
on The Shawn Salisbury Show.

Speaker 4 (02:31:54):
Dana, appreciate the time. We'll catch up with you next Wednesday.

Speaker 15 (02:31:58):
All right, appreciate you guys. Let's go Astro fans, Let's
get on the roll.

Speaker 4 (02:32:02):
Here we go, there you go, Astros GM, Dana Brown.

Speaker 2 (02:32:05):
Come back.

Speaker 8 (02:32:06):
React to a couple of the things that we talked
about with Dana right there. As we continue along here
on The Sean Salisbury Show, Dan Matthews Ross Phil Reale
hanging out with you here on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (02:32:21):
For the Shawn Salisbury Show, continued.

Speaker 8 (02:32:25):
An eight point sixty four e ra soe, I mean
six shutout against the Astros.

Speaker 4 (02:32:31):
That's exactly Okay, who was it?

Speaker 8 (02:32:32):
For the longest looking forward to it, it was it
was guys like that, it was first time guys against
the Astros, or it was former Astros that whenever they'd
pitch against them, Like if if gambling was as prevalent
back you know, like when that trend really was happening
with the former Astros, I would have hammered the opponent
every single time. And the Astros are being no hit

(02:32:53):
through the fourth inning. Oh okay, thank you Robert Ford. Yeah,
Aford to hit that on my Bigo card today. I mean,
it is so true, Like you know, you look at
the Ras and you're like, okay, you know they can
get after this guy tonight, and then it's a guy
a couple of starts for the Pirates.

Speaker 2 (02:33:06):
Yep.

Speaker 4 (02:33:06):
That's that's teed up for the Astros bats to go quiet.

Speaker 2 (02:33:09):
Hopefully not.

Speaker 8 (02:33:10):
But the good news is though, I mean, the Astros
at least the last couple of times out holding the
opponents scoreless, you get the one nothing shut out win
on Sunday against the Rays. You get the three nothing
shut out win yesterday. So I mean, if nothing else,
you've been able to get good pitching on your end.
It's just a wild card now of what Ryan Gusto
do we get tonight. Yeah, hopefully he can kind of

(02:33:33):
shape into form, but we've seen this so I'm gonna
be saying. I'm gonna say I'm not super optimistic. I
don't think you can. Hopefully he doesn't go out there
and get sheld or anything like that, but that's generally
what happens to young pitchers, especially ones that aren't top
prospect phenoms like Paul Schemes or something like that, is
they can have a good start or two, then teams
kind of see how they're trying to pitch. They're usually
limiting their repertoire, and then guys can kind of catch

(02:33:55):
up and then you go from there. So hopefully that
hasn't happened with Ryan Gusto.

Speaker 1 (02:33:59):
He is going.

Speaker 8 (02:34:00):
I mean, it's the Pirates, So if there's any place
for a nice soft landing spot for a bounce back game,
this could be it.

Speaker 4 (02:34:06):
Yeah, what is it a get right game, get right.

Speaker 8 (02:34:09):
Let's let's have this be a get right game, get
right for Pittsburgh basically since about nineteen ninety six. And
I threw this out last night on the tenth Inning
Show because the Mariners and Orioles game hadn't started yet.
But the Oriols have won four straight, so I'm putting
this out in the atmosphere. How about the Orioles kind
of channel the two thousand and five Astros right now.
Of such a horrible start, you fire the manager, and

(02:34:30):
then you get on a run. It'd be nice to
prolong that run through Seattle, which they did last night
five to one wins. So yes, the Astros are now
in first place in the AL West. Again, that's good.
Half game up has What was what we had the
folks been saying, is this the first time they've been
in first place since win.

Speaker 4 (02:34:47):
No since Saturday? Okay, that's right, because what was it?

Speaker 8 (02:34:51):
They won Friday night on the Ininer walk off, and
then they were in first place for less than twenty
four hours because then they got absolutely brained on Saturday
by the Rays.

Speaker 1 (02:35:00):
What an odds.

Speaker 8 (02:35:02):
It was the weirdest series ever, and we had Sparky
on earlier this week, and I asked them that exact thing, Like,
I was, like, you've played a long time, You've broadcasted
for a long time. Have you ever seen a series
that disjointed? Whether you get outscored thirty to nine, but
you come out of.

Speaker 4 (02:35:16):
It was split.

Speaker 8 (02:35:18):
Not good for the old run differential, which the Astros
still have the best one in their division, but not
one of the best ones in baseball. Let me I
just looked at it early. Let me see plus eighteen,
plus eighteen, and the Mariners are plus four at the moment. Conversely,
the Tigers are plus ninety one, and then you get
the Yankees who are plus ninety nine. They're going to

(02:35:39):
be pretty good. Are we all just wasting our time?
Well for following the Astros because they're just not going
to make it in the playoffs. It's probably gonna be
the Yankees versus the Yankees versus Dodgers collision.

Speaker 4 (02:35:47):
Course, I disagree.

Speaker 8 (02:35:48):
It feels like that's like maybe not Well, there's a
lot going on with the National League team, not a
lot of good teams in the National League, but we'll
see what happens. Well, I mean, it's you're talking about
a team that's plus eighteen run differential with the middle
of the order that's been pedestrian at best and Christian
Walker Janer dis you haven't had jord On for about
a month now, and you hope to get those guys

(02:36:10):
back in and you hope that they.

Speaker 4 (02:36:12):
Can be who we believe that they can be.

Speaker 8 (02:36:14):
And if that's the case, then I don't see any
reason to doubt Dana when he says those guys get going,
this team gets going. Yeah, if those guys look, there
is a way to there's a pathway to convincing yourself
that this this team is going to be really good.
And it is all those things you said basically that
the bats haven't been what they have The pitching has

(02:36:35):
been really good, but you need that to sustain Fromer
and Hunter Brown. They're gonna be fine. But like you know,
we're going Gusto tonight. It's nice to have back to
back quality start performances from Lance mccullor's junior but also
some lost soft landing spots not going against the best
lineups in baseball.

Speaker 4 (02:36:51):
So we'll see what happens there. But the stuff looks good.
I am encouraged.

Speaker 8 (02:36:54):
There is always going to be the cloud over him
about what's going to happen with possible injuries and stuff
like that.

Speaker 4 (02:37:01):
But it can happen.

Speaker 8 (02:37:03):
But I could also say, oh, the the injuries aren't
gonna hold up. Lance mccullors Junior isn't gonna hold up
in the bats. Some of them never wake up. Is
it cool if I hang out with you for another
hour on the show. I would appreciate it. Actually, there
you go, big shoes to feel with Matt Thomas. Just
ask them, well, I mean, as a matter of fact,
to hear a few minutes we have during the break,
I'm gonna step out, you know, shave my head a

(02:37:24):
little bit, you know, maybe.

Speaker 4 (02:37:27):
You know, tucked in shirt, crocs, stuff like that.

Speaker 15 (02:37:30):
You know.

Speaker 4 (02:37:30):
Just I'll try to do my best to look like Matt.
Okay great.

Speaker 8 (02:37:33):
And then just every you know, everything you ask if
it's good or it's bad, I'll just say, Mat, it's
just fine. Yeah, it's fine. Don't forget the air of superiority.
All right, He's got plenty of them.

Speaker 2 (02:37:42):
Love you, Matt.

Speaker 8 (02:37:42):
