Speaker 1 (00:02):
Salisbury Old salt hous did okay, let's do this Sewn
Salsbury to usc true longtime friend Shawn Salisbury.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Dan Matthewscus. This is the Sean Salisbury show.

Speaker 3 (00:23):
Kristan Walker a two run homer, his seventeenth long ball
of the year, and the former oriole gives the Astros
a two to nothing lead in the first and that's
hits sharply past Young and in the center front base
hit that'll score DuPont Melton around third and coming home,
the throat of the plate is cut off. Two run
single for Carlos Carrea with two out and a four
to nothing lead for the Astros.

Speaker 4 (00:45):
Correa now has forty one RBIs on the year.

Speaker 5 (00:49):
Dabo Leo delivers and Albarez swing smokes one right center
field and this lands for a base hit, and it's
a two hopper to the fence. You're Don Alvarez cruising
into second base, scalding a double with two strikes here
in the first inning, and.

Speaker 6 (01:05):
This one goes the other way. That's going to get down.
Walker's going to score easily. It's an RBI single for
Jesu Sanchez and the Astros lead five to one.

Speaker 5 (01:16):
Alvarez in the batter's box. Albarez swings launches one to
right field. That's a base hit and it goes all
the way to the fence. You're done playing Pepper with
a right field wall. Tonight, Spence scores from second. Albarez
in the second day, standing up two.

Speaker 7 (01:29):
To one, pitch poke the left back on it.

Speaker 6 (01:32):
Carlson still going back polla kaye, there we go, Yider Diaz.
A two run job is eighteenth of the season.

Speaker 5 (01:42):
And the pitch and Albarez swings the opposer field a
line drive base hit, coming in to pick it up
as Smith and you're done.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
He is three for three, Anderson hitting three eighty six
with runners at the scoring position, and he lifts this
one out to right center. Sanchez to his right, he's
there waiting for it, makes the catch, and that is
the ball game. The Houston Astros, in their four game
losing streak, take the first game in Baltimore seven to two.

Speaker 8 (02:11):
What a Thursday, and with that we say away we
go in good morning here. It is the Seawan Salisbury
Show on a Friday Sports Tawka seven ninety and Sean,
I feel like that really hot shot prospect for the Astros.
We know he can hit double A pitching now, so
maybe just maybe get them on a flight today and

(02:33):
play that back to back game tonight in Baltimore.

Speaker 7 (02:37):
Oh, I would have done that after the first game,
but last night validated that the bat looks pretty good
against double A. That's for damn sure. Good morning to everybody. Yeah,
I'm I uh, I'm with you. You get the what you
can hop on that plane, be there in about two hours.
And well if you get that good private jet going,
what about two and a half.

Speaker 4 (02:58):
I was gonna say, I think I think mister T would.

Speaker 7 (03:00):
Send his Yeah, send that jet, get him in that
lineup tonight and get him a back to backer and
let's go. I'm all in. Last night looked like a
baseball club. Sanchez five hits. That's you've been waiting for
him to bust out. He does, you know, both catchers
and when I say catchers, but with Keratini and he

(03:20):
is in a lane of both get their things. Played
a little long ball last night. Christian Walker into it.
So listen. Obviously they're too good to be floundering around
and performing at the play like they've been performing. But
they're not good enough to just keep it on a lot,
you know, like we said, turn it on and off
when they decide to if they're going to go where
they want to go. And we know what that was old.

(03:42):
It was good. They jumped all over from early and
the rest was history. And then they got you know,
solid mean scattered eight hits, but a solid job again
by Jason Alexander. He did a nice job, and then
the bullpen came in and held him down the rest
of the way. That looked like what we've seen that
put the Astros in first place in the first place.

(04:04):
So last night was impressive. And you know the thing is,
while they win that game, we're still all sitting here.
We have one eye to Baltimore and the other one
to Corpus CHRISTI. We just do. And so it looks
to me, I mean just from the optics of it
and just the feel after talking to Dana Brown that
I can't imagine now, Like I said, you know, none

(04:28):
of us want to jinx this and I don't believe
in that kind of stuff. Anyway, There's no way he's
not in the lineup by Monday or by Tuesday at
the latest at home. There's no way, meaning jord Don Alvarez.
So if you want to grab him for two more
and roll up there and get him going as back
to back tonight, and maybe that's a plan. Maybe we'll

(04:48):
hear today that he's on his way. That'd be great.
But regardless, I can't fathom after what he's doing there,
with the point of the season we're at, with the
intensity and the importance of the season that we're playing in,
and just a need for him and his performance and

(05:09):
all this time I camp sath him that he misses
more than at least before he comes back, he misses
more than the next two games, and maybe not even
those two games. We'll see, but it feels to me
like that ovation will be a standing one on Tuesday
when he gets back in.

Speaker 4 (05:24):
The ballpark site for sore eyes.

Speaker 8 (05:26):
Absolutely, I think people anticipating seeing and hearing Bob Ford
say number forty four Jordan Alvarez back in the lineup.
So looking forward to that. But I mean, look to
your point, I mean, are we really talking about a
game here? Just you know, oh, hey, you know, we
set out a plan. We've got to get him one
more game. So what like I mean, for what you've

(05:47):
seen in the first couple of games, hitting six twenty
five down there in a couple of games, and he
goes three for three last night, a couple of doubles,
one for an RBI and a single in that, I mean.

Speaker 7 (05:57):
A lot of childs play, yeah, I.

Speaker 8 (05:59):
Mean a lot of people didn't have a chance to
see the footage. And you know, of course we played
it here. It's radio, so it's see the mind there.
But having a chance to see some of these swings, Sean,
I was like, it's not gonna get much better.

Speaker 4 (06:12):
You're wasting them down there at this point.

Speaker 7 (06:14):
And I'm I think it's a day light and I know,
I mean a game light. Should I say? I understand
they're they're they're in charge, they do it all, but
if I'm going to get swim in, I, like I said,
after I saw that one, Now, if you weren't validated
after the first time, you got to be validated. It
reminds me and I so speaking of the Little League
World Series, this right now down there looks like your

(06:37):
kid who's three times bigger than everybody else in the
Little League, who's twelve, yeah, or you know who's twelve
and everybody else looks like there should be playing like
in the in the not a ten year old, but
like they're eight year olds even though they're not. He
just looks like the guy who quite frankly put it
this way, let me make it easier. Check his birth certificate.

(06:58):
That's what it would be, like Danny Almonte thing when
Danny was throwing like ninety eight, you know, when he
was in the Little league.

Speaker 4 (07:04):
He's got a lot for documentation, right he.

Speaker 7 (07:07):
Did he you that the damn righty does that? It
looks what he's a dude. Come on, he's hitting six hundred.
Like I said, it's that guy. We're talking about great
players that when they're dominating, it's like, well, he's the
guy who's hitting six hundred, plays shortstop and pitches hits
clean up in the lineup. Is your best player on
the basketball court when he's over there playing. And then
he also happens to that the eighth the high school

(07:27):
coach in the eighth grade wants him to come play
quarterback or somewhere for him in the high school team.
But in baseball terms, you're checking his birth certificate. You saying, oh,
it's that guy. He was better than everybody else when
he was four and they were ten, so he always
played up. That's what Jordon looks like there. So if
one game didn't give you the validation and the second
one has had to, it's not even the hits. If

(07:50):
he'd got four blop hits, right Dan, it's like, Okay,
the ball's not coming out and he kind of looks
crazy in the battles back. The ball's jumping off his bat.
It looks like Jordan Alvarez. It is well, it's only
minor league, because yeah, we gotta start somewhere. And if
he was hting one seventy four against minor league pitch
and then we could say, whoah, two games he's just
getting into his rhythm. It looked like it's like to dude,

(08:11):
they're upmatched, and it's like, oh, come on, what else
do you need to see? If you really want to
see him, let's get him up with the big boys
and don't waste those of that. Now you're at the
point if it's going to get sore, let it get
sore at the big club, because if it gets sore,
maybe it'll get sore or he's a little tired and
can rest after one day after he drives in four
runs and goes three for four with two home runs
with the big boys. Okay, that's how I'm at that

(08:33):
point now. I don't know if that means they'll say, Okay,
you know what, We'll play him one more tonight and
then he gets to rest Saturday and Sunday and Monday,
and then we'll play him right there off Monday, right,
and then then we'll play him Tuesday, and then we're
good to go. From my at this stage of the season,

(08:53):
help and it feels like he's feeling it and hot.
You want to waste that ba No, that's how the
point where it's like you want to waste that bat
hell no. And I know it's a plaining flight, but
think how when he walks into the clubhouse, how the
fellas are going to feel, especially if they're anticipating him
on Tuesday. Hell, you know what, I wouldn't even tell him.

(09:13):
I wouldn't even tell the guys. I would honestly, I wouldn't.
You know. I know it sounds crazy, but you know
that surprise party when and the person's like, oh my gosh,
I never saw this coming. Even though they can they
may try to fake it. I mean, their mind, they
know well, your dun's coming down the pike. Whether it's now,
it's going to be in three days. But they're just
the fact that he rolls into Baltimore, nobody knows and
Bam comes walking into clubhouse. You haven't seen the lineup
car because he get in there that feeling and when

(09:36):
they walk into a locker room, the fellas are going
to go crazy. Even though he's been around, it's just like, okay,
and that's just that momentum, and he's got to be
feeling really good about what it looks like since he's
come back. So I'm not wasting anymore bats in the
minor league. I'm not. I'm not. He he's back to back,
can come to night in Baltimore, and I really don't
want to ruin the rhythms and wait till Tuesday, to

(09:56):
be honest with you. For my money, he's on a
plane either the first thing this morning or he was
last night. Where he can I don't care, and get
him to the ballpark and let's go play. Whether that
happens or not, I don't know, but I'm greedy, so
I want your best player in the line of hitting.
And last night was nice, but now Let's get that momentum.
The same things that kicked your ass, that kept you

(10:19):
down the last few days. Now take this seven to
two win. Go sweep the dog on oels, Go do
your thing, get back then then take care of your
next opponent, and let's go. I don't see did anything
look to you when you see the highlights of him
or the clips of him swinging the bat, ain't nothing.
Whether it's minor league pitch or not. That that's still
got to come through the zone. It's still got to

(10:40):
have torque, it's still got to have exit velocity. Even
though the double A pitching is overmatched. Get him here
and he looks like Jordan, and if he's what Dana
Brown thinks he's going to be. Because they on Wednesday
they basically without saying it, said it that when Jordon
comes in, everybody's better, everybody gets better. You're gonna make

(11:01):
a difference everything that they're they're throwing the weight of
this season now, not literally, but there's a figure there's
a figurative part of this where it's like everybody around
knows Jordan's in. It's supposed to change everybody in the lineup,
just the way you pitch to him and everything. Get
him here. I don't see what. I don't see what
one more game in the minor leagues other than going
oh for four and people saying, well, what happened? You know,

(11:23):
I don't see any reason why that that he needs
to stay down there and hammer seven year olds. Well,
the way it looks like a twelve year old that's
better than everybody in your Little League World Series. So
get him to Baltimore. It's not that far a trip.
He's a baseball player. That's what he's paid to do.
One extra game here or there, in my mind, isn't

(11:44):
going to make a hill of beans. And if it
was going to, let it be with the big boys.

Speaker 8 (11:48):
Into conversation, Adam Hale was our guy in bell Er
Little League. He was like six two six three at
twelve years old, and I mean you threw him anything
near the zone, it was going to the monkey bars
on the on the playground right behind right center field.

Speaker 7 (12:04):
So yeah, I know I know that feeling because I
was that guy. Okay, yeah, yeah, that's you know, brother.
I mean, I mean, if you want to know how
great I was in the little league, just asked me,
and as I joked, but pitched, played shortstop and hit
fourth because back then, remember when I was dead. I

(12:26):
don't know if it was in your air work a
couple of different eras, but I was. I was, you know,
hitting clean up, was the guy. It's not like the
two hole the three, all right, and you hit clean up, boy,
and you played shortstop and pitched, you were the guy.
I remember when I first got in there, I was
playing in nine, play in the majors. And when you
first moved to Arizona and I had they they had

(12:47):
little league drafts, right, you know the draft, and well,
my first team I played for was the Cubs and
coach Ron Nichols, and they another team drafted me. Hell
it might have been the Astros to the Cubs, and
I got traded on draft day. They traded up or
whatever it is they did that. I'm kidding, but and
I'm half heartedly joking. But because I was taller than

(13:09):
everybody and played those positions is what I mean. So,
while joking, but what's wrong with the little bragg brag
a little bit? You know, the story gets big, the
fish story gets bigger. By the end of the show,
my first home running Little League went five seventy, So
you know, why wouldn't you, But yeah, it's uh, that's
your exactly right. We all know remember that guy, don't we?
Oh yeah, we all remember that guy. They had a kid.

(13:30):
We had a guy in high school named Dino Gonzalez
and he was in high school, but he was that
guy who was Hispanic kid from Valley Center, which is
a neighboring town to the mean streets Esco. And his
his velocity is vello on his ball. If he would
have continued to develop through high school, they're like, damn.
But he was that guy who was like just the
Mexican kid who could pump where everybody else was like, uh,

(13:52):
how you hitting this guy right all the way from
little league to there? So yeah, man, it was, uh,
we all know that guy. And Jordan's that guy now
to double a pitching he just is.

Speaker 4 (14:03):
Ye, no doubt about it.

Speaker 8 (14:05):
And hopefully he is back in the Astros uniform here
sooner rather than later. JTC. You right there working into
the conversation. You want to join him someone three two
one two five seven ninety. Also sometime during this hour,
maybe Dana was right, we'll discuss here. It is the
Shawn Salisbury show on a Friday Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 7 (14:25):
Going non stop with former QB Sean Salisbury.

Speaker 4 (14:33):
We can get into that too as the show Old Series.

Speaker 7 (14:35):
Chops Man World Series Chops and you know, the veteran
for a long time.

Speaker 8 (14:39):
Not only that, I mean and and like I said,
we'll get into a little bit later, but I mean,
just looking at his career, I didn't realize he's played
for as many teams as he has.

Speaker 7 (14:50):
Oh yes, yeah, a lot of them. Yeah, yeah, you
know he was at his best with a couple of them.
I mean he you know, helped what Boston was. Did
he help Boston to that World Series? I think yeah,
he did close or the year they one and most
recent and so he's been on teams. We'll see what
he's got, you know, in the tank, but you know
that old that stance where he leans over and the
arms out and he got it pointed down at the ground.

(15:12):
If nothing else, that'll that'll bring attention to it. But
they obviously think he's got a little game or he
wouldn't be coming up to the major leagues right now
and join the team in Baltimore. So yeah, you know,
he's pitched for a bunch of teams. But we'll see,
we'll see what that means, uh to this team. But
it's another body that they that they need obviously, and uh,
he'll be back into the bullpen guy, which which makes

(15:32):
me wonder is he setting up a bray you or
is he closing for him?

Speaker 8 (15:38):
Fair questions and only time will tell how they intend
to use him, because his last appearance this year was
with his initial club, the Braves, which I was there
in Atlanta when he was in the middle of his heyday,
and I mean he was as unhittable as anybody in
the game. It was pretty much as soon as Welcome
to the Jungle started playing, they had the flames going
on the riven boards. Everything he came running in that

(16:01):
ball game was over. But I mean that was, you know.

Speaker 7 (16:04):
Almost Heah, he was a light time, There's no doubt
about it. Yep, yep.

Speaker 8 (16:09):
So we'll see if at least for a month and
a half, if he can recapture some of that magic.

Speaker 4 (16:14):
See seven ninety h Let's get JT in here this morning.
You get us go on JT. Good morning.

Speaker 9 (16:21):
Hey.

Speaker 10 (16:22):
Just a couple of quick things. I want to credit
Joe a Spota for one thing, Uh, and I love
the fact that one he didn't throw from Valdez under
the bus when he had the opportunity to, because I've
been so mad since the day he popped off about
that outfield alignment, and every time he's ran into a jam,

(16:44):
I'm like, well, you don't. You don't have anything to
say that after the outfield alignment wine that he had
and he's never been the same since. But a spot
I thought on his last start was excellent where he
could have threw him under the bus and he didn't.
And the only other thing I wanted to say today,
And maybe you guys know this or not, but I
still think that this team part of the reason that

(17:06):
they've struggled. I think sickness has been an impact and
the two you know, there's only been two documented cases
with Paynya and Javier, but I believe that they're kind
of dealing with that too, because I think body language
says a lot about how this team's been playing the
last week or so, and that's what I hope it is.
That's the excuse I'm making. But I just wonder if

(17:28):
you hear a little of that conversation that normally if
one guy gets sick or two guys get sick. It's
it's more than that, and it kind of runs its
course through the clubhousie. I'm hoping that's the case, and
I just hope they can get on a run, go
and bring your play you or done tonight. I agree
ondred percent go astros.

Speaker 4 (17:46):
There you go. Appreciate JT. Yeah, you know, and go ahead.

Speaker 7 (17:50):
Sean, No, it's a great point about I don't know
about the sickness part. I don't know, And he's right
about a lot of time it just rolls through if
somebody gets if it's the flu or whatever roles. So
I don't know because I haven't heard I personally haven't
heard outside of Hobby or whoever that that it's it's
it's pummeled the clubhouse clubhouse. I don't know. But he
makes a good point. Make maybe the energy or what

(18:11):
have you. I don't know. They're not going to make
the excuse, but maybe that's part of it, you know,
part of it. But the other thing he made since
Jordan Loud talked his own team, and he did and
he didn't get called out by anybody else, at least
in that team. Maybe for a lot of us yeah, Well,
a lot of us on the outside said, you justically,

(18:32):
you don't. You don't dress your team down like that
in public, you just don't. It shows a sign of weakness.
It's not leadership. You do that private, you just do
and then then you let it rip and have those conversations.
He hasn't been the same. He hasn't been the same.
So what it does if that, if that has anything
to do with it, that they're they're listen. The one
problem fromber has and it's obvious, and it's and and

(18:55):
and every time something like this happens, and he's really
friggin good man. We know that. We don't have to
repeat that. I don't have to qualify the statement. But
the truth is, if the guy has one weakness, it
is emotionally, and emotionally at times he's just whatever it
is that he does not handle well, failure or getting

(19:19):
a little sideways or something that doesn't go perfect, and
he's got to get better at that if he really
wants to get what he gets. It can't just be
when you're going good. Matter of fact, I'm judging more
people if I'm a general manager in football or if
I'm a baseball GM or a manager. If I'm coaching
a team, I'm judging you, harsher, and I want to

(19:41):
know how you do. We can all. I mean, some
guys get a little old arrogant. You know what's the
old saying that don't let success get to your head,
but don't let failure get to your heart. You know,
I'm judging players. It's easy to be happy, go lucky
and riding that riding that wave of we're kicking ass.
I'm playing, I've won six in a row, I'm a
cy young candidate, or I'm leading the league and hitting.

(20:01):
That's the easy part. Now, when all of us go
through that good feeling in our jobs, it's like, but
you know what, everything's temporary now. Temporary can be three weeks,
temporary can be six months, temporary can be a day.
And the other side of it is, if you're front
running like this, I got to be able to trust
you when you're not playing your best and when things

(20:22):
go a little side, is there one of your players
makes an ear. Can you imagine if all of a sudden,
Carlos Korea or you know, Altuve or anybody wouldn't met
Christian Walker's for media. Yeah, man, you know what, we'd
be better if he just throws strikes in a certain place.
We get down and let us fiel the ball. You
know we're in position if fromward let us help him.

(20:43):
But you know, he gets to a point where he
just he he quite frankly, the emotions kind of get
him sideways a little bit. Can you imagine if he
said that in public? Hey, can you fathom? Or if
he said if he said, you know, I'll tell you
man I Christian Walkers is I'll tell you I'm not
the manager, but you know what, I would use our
bullpen and our starting pitching a little different. I don't

(21:05):
agree with when he gets sideway, he sees emotions run wild,
and you know, I think it's Joe's responsibility to actually
make a change earlier and like I start doing some managing.
Can you fathom? But people be looking around like what?
So the point is that it has a I don't
know if that's the reason, but it could be coincidental.
I don't know. But you know what, I'm judging players.
I'm judging this team for what they just went through.

(21:27):
I'm not judging them tonight. Last night was good. You
judged last night because they came back and played really
good baseball after they were dominated at times by Baltimore
in the previous at the time that Baltimore was at
home here, you know, in dyk In Park. So I
for me, it's an interesting point for Fromer to get
to the next level here or for some other team.
And he's been at the next level, but the live there,

(21:50):
not rent there, but live there. He can't allow people
are wrong things happening to rent space in his head.
He's got to go in there and buy, take ownership
and make sure that when everything's that, he just lives
at the penthouse. There's times he gets in that elevator
and it goes down fast, down toward lobby men. He's
got to be able to stay there. And that's how
you judge if you're looking for the great ones. It's

(22:11):
not when you're going good, it's when you're not. Can
you carve it out for us? And he's been able
to do that because he's an innings eater. But yeah,
if he would just find a way to say, I
don't really care if I have a bad inning, and
if somebody makes in their big deal, it happens. It's
a long season. We're in the grind whatever it is
he wants to use, but he needs to get back
if this team's going to go where they go from.

(22:32):
Er can't pitch like this, He just can't, like he did,
he just can't innings. Yeah, But like I said, grinds
one thing, production's another. And so there you go. And
it's a good point by our caller, it really is.
I like it. Well.

Speaker 8 (22:45):
I mean, if nothing else, it kind of leads credence
to what you've said before. I confess he did it.
I mean, when you do that, then you better be
handling all of your own business.

Speaker 7 (22:55):
Better be perfect. Yeah.

Speaker 8 (22:56):
Yeah, because the only other time in the other example
that I have is it was a direct call out.
Remember twenty eighteen, the Astros are playing in Cleveland and
somebody either made an error or I can't remember what
it was, and mcculer's kind of showed a little bit
of emotion and I remember it just like it was yesterday.
They're coming off the field and jose Al Tuve headed

(23:18):
him off going to the dugout, like being like that's
bs man, you don't do that. We don't do that here,
Like that's not going to fly. We're not going to
do that. So that's the only other time.

Speaker 7 (23:28):
Yeah, I'll leave it out in football terms, I'll tell
you what it is. And if guys do this, they
better be perfect. Then some some have are pretty damn good,
so you give him a hall pass. But there's players
that and I know of them because I've had I've
had one on my team, hell of a player that
when you missed the throw near him and this was

(23:54):
and I love him, one of my very dear friends.
But when you missed the throw, if he was open,
his arms would go up in the air and he'd
snap his head back at the quarterback. Or if he
was opening, you didn't throw it to him, snap his
head back at the quarterback, Like what do you doing
for God in the world to see? And I can
remember one time that happened, and we got to the
sidelines and it was it was. It wasn't in the

(24:16):
Twitter social media days. It was the the F bombs went. Well,
if you had a mic on and State, they had
a B B B beppepe it was. And I said
the same thing. I said, I don't care who you are,
how good you are, don't you ever do that again,
because the next time the ball is laid on the ground.
I'm going to dress you down in public. Arms are
going to be flailing everywhere. I mean, it was a

(24:38):
it was. It was a full blown it was no
fist fight, but damn, I'll tell you what it was.
It was a verbal fish fight. And so and and
you just don't do Why now some get away at
it because they're awesome and they're great players and ped
they just what are you going to say? That's part
of their moo. But they better be able to produce.
They did. And the guy who said it was it
was a better player than I was. But it's exactly right.
You got to head that off at the past that

(24:59):
emo we throw your hands up or kind of look
like it's the I confess he did it without saying
it out loud for people to hear. And to me,
it's one of the more bush league things you can
ever do to your teammates because it either setting up
a fistfight or I got news for you. It's a
don't drop a ball, or don't don't strike out at
home plate, don't miss a pitch because then it just

(25:21):
brings back old head. Those are the things you don't do.
Like a boy said you handle all your dirty launtery.
Emotions happen, but you got to handle it in the
locker room. Always when it comes.

Speaker 8 (25:28):
To stuff on the field, always, yeah, for sure, it's
usually best done that way. And usually if it's spoken
out in public, that means that well, somebody feels like
it's kind of a last resort. Someone three two one
two five seven ninety against someone three two one two
five seven ninety. If this guy is right, boy, would
it be a sight for sore eyes? And it revolves

(25:48):
around the astros. We'll talk about it right here. It
is the Shawn Salisbury Show. Getting going here on a
Friday is Sports Talks seven ninety. All right, guys, let's
discuss doctor Jeff witzitt Envision. Okay, he's been nothing but
spectacular for me. I always say when I want to
know it. First off, how in the world would somebody
who's never used lasik or never been to the eye

(26:10):
doctor for something important, how in the world would they
be able to speak on somebody? Talk to the people
who've used it.

Speaker 7 (26:19):
Doctor Witz has been with me every step of the
way for the last seven or eight years. Every step
he's been phenomenal. So talk to and friends I've sent
him the same way. Talk to those people, not the one
who well, I'm thinking about getting it done. But here,
let me tell you about this company. How about talking
about somebody who's been there, done it. I'm seeing better
than I've seen the last thirty years, and if there's
anything that needs adjusted, he's doing it. You have the

(26:40):
best doctor right here. You don't have to travel out
of state to go get the Lasik procedure guy that
you want to get it done right in eye care doctor.
He's phenomenal. He'll walk you through it, take away your
anxiety stress because there always is when you talking about
your eyes. But with the greatest equipment, with his great
eye and hands to make sure that you get treated
the way he'd treat his own kid's eyes. Isn't that
a nice, nice bonus we get? And then the recovery

(27:03):
is quick, you're not on the table long, and it's
not invasive. All those things, plus you can work out
your payment plan. Get it done right with doctor Jeff
Witzet because your eyes are important, as you well know,
and he's gonna make sure you understand just how comfortable
you can be. And that's a good thing. He's the
best in the business, and I'm grateful. I am a patient.
It's seven one three three sixty five nine seven nine

(27:25):
seven one three three six five nine seven ninety nine.
You can get him at witsit vision dot com. Go
for your free review wits it vision dot com. The
Sewn Salisbury Show continued, Sean, we's top of the Delarean.

Speaker 8 (27:42):
We're not gonna have to take a long flight in
the DeLorean because remember roads where we're going, we're not
going to need roads. Well nowadays we still need them.
But Dana Brown on with us on at Wednesday, and
remember I mean as you were talking with him, he
was saying this offense will break out, and last night

(28:03):
they did. Now it's one game and everything could change
going into tonight where they could get shut down. The
Oriols have been pitching incredibly well too. I don't know
if you heard Adam Amin and aj Perzinski talking about
that last night, but still twelve hit performance, seven runs
last night and also getting it from guys that you
want to be able to get said production from a

(28:24):
couple of runs batted in from Carlos Korea, Christian Walker
to run Homer and then also to a nice little
double and as I mentioned, Jesus Sanchez, who had been
absolutely looking lost at the plate, looks like he might
have found.

Speaker 4 (28:38):
Something last night. I think you're muted.

Speaker 7 (28:44):
And I am muted.

Speaker 4 (28:46):
Welcome back, buddy, thank you.

Speaker 7 (28:47):
Thank you heard everything you said. Dan the Dana Brown
and I know it's one game with Sanchez, I mean
as far as that five or five, but Dana Brown's
expertise as well. But understanding what a player brings to
the table. What did he say when they went out
got Sanchez loves his power? Said it's sneaky, and he
said when he gets going, he's a ya's the word.

(29:10):
There you go, and prodigious power is pretty important. And
five of five last night, did that look more like
the guy that he went and got a trade deadline?
Now you're not going to get that every night, but
just just looked like then, Now that looks like a
starting left fielder. The other side of it is he
said on Wednesday that we're going to bust out. Be patient,
it's going to happen. And he and I think he

(29:34):
was expecting it more when Jordan got there, even though
you know you hope for it, but they've struggled. But
that is team's too good to be swinging the bat
like this as a paraphrase, and we're all like, you know, like, okay,
well win win, Well, our grit, well, that's part of it.
He's constantly talking about the grit and grind to get them.
Because I asked and said, well, what does grit and
grind mean if there's no production? He said, that's part

(29:56):
of the process of getting to the production. And he's
leave strongly in that, hence why that's his He uses
it every week. And I'll be damned if they don't
always seem to find their way with this and their resilience,
and you know, they do it again and get the
win last night. But if Sanchez gives you that or

(30:16):
looks like a major league hitter and Jordan's back in, maybe,
honestly the ebbs and flows of this team. We've said it,
considering all the injuries. But when just when you're frustrated,
they go win five or six, just when you're pissed
and they've lost and look like a team that honestly
does not looking like they belong playing in sugar Land
on a Friday night at the plate, Bam, they go

(30:39):
on and they don't it's hard for you to get
the Astros twice with the same pitcher, you know, that
close together. I mean, they're pretty good at data. Brown
has a pretty good finger of his pulse, you know,
his his finger on the pulse of the team, and
that's why he's around it every day. He's got strong
belief that this team is a bit hitting team than

(31:00):
we think they are. He does. It's just that's the
way it is. And this year there's been times when
he's been absolutely right, and there's been times when fans
and us in the media as fans, have been right
as well. The question is from here on, we're hoping
that Dana Brown's belief in this team is validated and
Jordan's who he is, and then you'll you'll have something

(31:22):
because if the bullpen can get a little rested and
bringing kimberl in, if he adds that body, and then
they get right at the plate, they're starting pitching the
way Alexander's gone in the way that who we know
who Hunter Brown is, because I can't fathom, just like
you saw Sanchez struggle while he's a better player, meaning
in his pro career in fromber, I can't fathom that Fromber.

(31:42):
Valdez is going to continue to live at the space
he's lived the last four or five starts. I can't.
He's too good. As long as he's mentally and emotionally
out of his own way, he will get back and
I'll take him these last five or so or six
starts the good Fromber. And if he gets in to it,
he's a streaky pitcher. We could get five in a

(32:03):
row heading in and that would be perfect and the
perfect timing for what they need because it's a you know,
like I said, it's a final week division winner. In
this division, I think I don't think you can run
away with it because there's too much good pitching, even
with the Rangers, the good pitching with these three teams
at the top that they're going to mow you down
at times and then their opponent. So Sanchez was a

(32:25):
big believer, and Dana has been a huge believer in
this team, regardless of injuries, and it continues to tell
us even when we don't believe it, about his team's
at bats and here we are staring at it, and
last night was a good indication of his belief.

Speaker 8 (32:41):
Yeah, it'd be nice to see that group go on
a run, I mean, especially for the struggles they've had
the past week and you know, just being able to
see this team string together some wins again, which something
they pretty much have not done since they left LA
about a month and a half ago. So it would
be again a site for or eyes if the Astros
could get that. But you want to join us seOne three, two,

(33:04):
one two five seven ninety is the number two get
in and with some of those guys, maybe a couple
of notable absences. When it comes to the Astros getting
it going at the plate, we'll talk about them right
here as it is the Sean Salisbury Show here in
the six o'clock hour on a Friday Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 7 (33:22):
Country Boys Roofing Country with the k Boys with the
Z and John and his crew and welcome John's son,
Zach to the mix. Steven F. Austin graduate is now
part of the company working with his team, which just
adds another able, good body, hard worker to your roof
and to the company. And they've also added financing. Financing

(33:43):
now is available through Country Boys Roofing, so you get
the roof done and finance it and you do it
all in the same building. With their partner. Isn't that
a great thing? What an awesome thing they have. But
let's get to it with you see the weather that's
going on right now, you see it, and we're in
that season. Somebody along the way times one hundred is
going to need either a roof fixed, a roof, an

(34:04):
old roof replaced, or just getting out in front of
it and making sure that your family's safe, sound and protected.
And that's what Country Boys Roofing does. You got insurance
claims to help you navigate them. No matter where you
are in Houston, they'll go to you, no matter how
big or small the job is. They don't care, and
they'll give you a one thousand dollars discount when you
mentioned my name, and if you're a military, if you're

(34:28):
an educator, or if you're a first responder, one thousand,
five hundred dollars discount on the full roof, the full
roof for both. When you meant when if you're one
of the military, educator or obviously first responder, and that
means that you're taking care of you. This is the
time of year when the price gouging and those who
elevate the price because they can, because of your safeties

(34:49):
in mind. That's how pitiful it is for some of
the roofers that go out there and say, oh yeah,
storms man, there's too much work we got we we're
going to have to do it the storms. Not Country
Boys Roofing. They're there to make as a proud member,
a new member of the Better Business Bureau, to make
sure you're safe without having you take out a second
mortgage on that very home that you're trying to get
fixed on the roof to keep your family safe. What

(35:10):
a novel concept. Loyalty, transparency and honorable. And that's who.
Country Boy's Roofing is led by John Eivan. It is
country Boys country with the K boys with a Z
at the end. Country Boys Roofing, Countryboysroofing dot Com for
any information you need Country Boys Roofing. Sehn Salisbury show continues.

Speaker 11 (35:34):
To continue.

Speaker 4 (35:36):
Calling from Pensacola. Wants to jump in ross what's going on?

Speaker 12 (35:41):
Hey, what's up fellows? Good morning? Just like you mentioned,
there's still fight. So this has been without about the
craziest year for theories. It doesn't matter, Hitters pictures. The
surprise Joe spot I hadn't turned his ankle going up
and down the steps. But you know, uh, Dana Brown

(36:04):
going out and getting timberl Yeah he has been. It's
at the end of his career.

Speaker 7 (36:09):
We know that.

Speaker 12 (36:10):
But to go out there and do that, that's a
vote for Hey that he still thinks that the Astros
can can win it. Uh, it's good to hear the
jord On. I didn't know that he was playing, uh
last night in the minor league, So that's good to
hear that that he's getting live at bat And then yeah, like, yeah,

(36:31):
the Astros were terrible the last week, you know, I
mean they got shut out like four times and it
was just not fun to watch. But Kelly, they have,
Like I said, this is this is why you watch baseball.
It's so fun to watch them come in and just
grind and try hard. It doesn't matter if it's pitching

(36:52):
or hitting. And like you said, it's it's the culture.
And and Altuve and Sanchez and probably Korea and Altuva
put their arm around Tanchez and said, you know you
can do this, kid, You're gonna You're gonna do it.
It's sure not he did. It's gonna be fun going
on the stretch and uh, you know, college football less

(37:13):
than twenty four hours away. I guess a little bit
more than twenty four hours away. So uh, it's a
fun time. I like listening and y'all all the way,
let's go have a great day.

Speaker 8 (37:23):
There you go, Hey, appreciate the Carl Ross, And of course,
if you are like Ross, don't forget to make Sports
Talk seven ninety preset number one on the free, new
and improved iHeartRadio app. But Sean, I mean, for all
the things that he mentioned there about you know, getting
yourd on back and you know, just fighting through the
fatigue of the last week. I mean, it can't be
underscored that another zero for four last night out of

(37:46):
jose Al TV. He's four for his last thirty six.
That's hitting just slightly above one hundred during that stretch.
And oh funny enough, in those seven games, the Astros
are two and six oh five.

Speaker 7 (37:59):
Sorry, yeah, he's gonna, you know, he's gonna. We call
it table center. But the energy with him, it's kind
of when he goes, you go. You know, it's really
been that way for a long time, and it's not
just his responsibility to carry it. But the one thing
about it is, and I don't mean this I mean,
this would love to Jose but you know, he can

(38:23):
go two for seventy and while some people well say, man,
he's got to pick it up. The criticism won't last long.
It's almost like he's immune to it, you know what
I'm saying. It just is because he's so beloved in
the town. But let's not back away from the fact that,
and he knows this, there's been a great competitor, not
a good one. A great one is that when he's

(38:44):
going good, there's a different feeling about the team. There
just is, and he seems to be the he seems
to be the bell cow for when the energy rises.
Josey al two bak is playing well and the results
usually end up. But you're not gonna people are just
they're not gonna hammer the criticism like they would for
somebody else because of his skins in the game. They're

(39:05):
just not And the guy shows up all the time,
and you know it. You're not going to get a
lot of discipline at times. And when he's going bad,
chasing and that's who he is. But then he'll start
chasing and the bat will find the baseball and he'll
hit a ball that has no business catching up too.
That's like at his head, it is forehead above the
plate and and he's going to hit it out of

(39:25):
the ballpark. So a year, right, he has not, but
every year he goes through one of these, he just does,
and maybe a couple of them. But when he gets going,
the home runs coming bunches and the energy of the
team goes. But he's going to he's going to need
to pick it up. But there's certain guys in cities.
I'm sure Dan, you found that in Atlanta. I know

(39:48):
what that feeling is like being in cities where a
player just you know, Kirby Pucket, God rest his soul,
who was great. When when Puck was struggling in Minnesota,
he was so frigging beloved. His struggles were kind of tempered,
you know what I'm saying. It's like, Wow, it's it's Pucket.
It's Kirby, man, He'll be all right. And he was
the energy. It's the similarities in their height, in their energy,

(40:10):
in the smile on their face, and their love for
the game were so friggin similar, I swear to you,
and I was fortunate to be there when him and
the Jack Morris and Dan gladdens. We were winning World
Series and the energy in the building was and Puckett
was the energy. He was the extra battery or the
red bull or whatever it is, the energy dam he was.

(40:32):
And and when he struggled, it felt like everything else
was wrong. Even if people were going good like oh
hoose struggling, it was like, okay, I mean, uh, puck struggling.
But the similarities are so real. I think about it often,
and it'll happen. We know. You know Dan, Well, he's
going to go on a street where there's three home
runs in two days and five and ten games and bam,

(40:53):
He'll take care of his business. That's been who he's
been forever. But the criticism will not come in loads
because of who it is. He will never get criticized
like somebody else because of his history but also his
history here, but just who he is. And that's okay.
But we can't. He can't shy away from the fact
that he's above it. And he knows that. That's the

(41:14):
one guy who does know it. Hence why he's been
so good over his career. He doesn't let those things
bother him. He just keeps He'll keep hacking, you know, that,
and when he starts to run into him, I pity
the fool because they'll start throwing at places that they
don't think he can get to, and he'll go get it.
So I'm hoping we're close to getting one of those
streaks too, a similar streak on the positive way, like

(41:36):
the one that's going negative right now. But it thse
you're not going to get a lot of criticism when
it comes to him, and you and I both know that.

Speaker 8 (41:44):
Well, especially too given the body of work that he's
put together throughout his Astros careers. So I think that
probably that buys you a little bit of patience, but
maybe only so much.

Speaker 7 (41:53):
Need we need him here so you got you got
to have him play well, No, you have to.

Speaker 8 (41:58):
Huge ye him, Jeremy Pina and hopefully you get your
and on Alvaretz back here soon enough. The Astros in
addition to the bullpen, can you really expect much? We'll
discuss here as we get into the seven o'clock hour
on a Friday Sean Salisbury Show Sports Talk seven ninety
Hey guys.

Speaker 7 (42:15):
On a recent podcast, a well respected business leader said
the best companies are ones that solve problems in the
market well consider this new vehicle transaction prices hover around
forty eight thousand dollars. That's double where they were in
twenty tenfordability is a problem, and with talks of tariffs
and other noise, customers are looking for a solution, and
that solution is affordable monthly payment. Some banks have dealt

(42:38):
with this by extending financing turns out to eighty four
and even ninety six months. In fact, over twenty percent
of auto loans today are seven years long. It's not
a mortgage, folks. This is why more clients are considering
leasing than any other time in recent history. And DNM
Leasing is the nation's leasing leader with fifty thousand satisfied
clients on the road today. With forty nine years in

(42:58):
the business. We have experts that specialize in YEP solving
the high payment problem with easy lease. That's easy lease
with no money down, payments significantly lower than buying and
terms that make sense. Why wouldn't you call DM leasing
the main thing? They'll visit them online, You'll get the
information you need. It's dmauto Leasing dot com. That's dmauto
leasing dot com. You can also call them at seven

(43:20):
one three two nine zero one thousand. But remember Dmauto
Leasing dot Com. Affordability matters and dn M provides it.

Speaker 2 (43:36):
D two Houston, an iHeart radio station, Sports Talk seven
ninety your home for your home teams.

Speaker 7 (43:47):
From the Parsons that match it. Next Studios. Okay, let's
do this. John Salisbury to USC Troupes, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.

Speaker 2 (44:05):
Dan Matthews ecues. This is the Sean Salsbury Show in
Baltimore against the Orioles. Jordan Alvarez three for four with
the Corpus Christy Hooks and his second game of rehab action.
A couple of doubles won for an RBI single and
he also strikes out. And Craig Kimberl newest Astro you

(44:30):
heard there in the iHeartRadio update. They're heading into this
hour that they've signed him to a major league deal,
expected to be with the club starting tonight. And Sean,
you know it was funny last night on Twitter share
that news because Jeff Passen had it first. Ari Alexander
KPRC two he also passed it along that you know.

(44:51):
Kimberle comes to the Astros after his last major league
action this year was with the club that he broke
in with the Atlanta Braves, where from twenty ten to
twenty fourteen he was one of the most unhittable guys
in the game. High ve lo have that slider to
go with it, and just absolutely able to rack up
the saves a career high of fifty in twenty thirteen.

(45:16):
He also had seasons of forty six and forty seven.
But I mean, ever since then, the production has kind
of gone down. You've seen the velo tick down. Probably
right around twenty twenty, twenty twenty one, that's where the
Velo went down, and at least according to Baseball Savant,
his velocity now is about ninety one point six. So

(45:37):
we see this all the time with power pitchers that
it's kind of like running backs in the NFL, where
eventually that wall is hit and they're just not the
same guy anymore. But I mean, a veteran guy that
has been in high leverage situations in the postseason and
somebody that at least I mean, I think, if nothing else,

(45:58):
my expectation for him is, hey, can you come in,
can you get out? Can you be at least somewhat
of a stable presence out there. I don't think he's
gonna be closing games.

Speaker 7 (46:07):
Yeah, I think the Villo alone says that Brad's in
that it almost feels like Kimberl's going to be a
Swiss Army knife in the bullpen. That makes sense. I
may need him in the fifth inning, depending on the matchup,
you know, with it with his you know, keep the
ball down, keep the ball obviously in the ballpark. Maybe

(46:29):
maybe sneaky ninety two. Or you may need him in
a setup situation. You may need him in a seventh
I don't And it's depending on the matchup. Maybe in
the course of his career, he'll you know, come in
as a team or you know, two batters that are
hitting one ninety seven against him. I don't know, but yeah,
to me, it was obvious at the beginning that you
you have to put a bray you as your closer.

(46:51):
That was my I mean, he's pumping it ninety nine
ninety eight miles an hour, and he'll adjust. He knows
what he's doing. I mean, can go from the eighth
of the ninth inning. Don't all don't all relief guys.
If you're going to be a reliever, wouldn't you like
to have the the be the power guy who can
get people out as a closer. Sure, those guys get paid.

(47:11):
I know other guys do too, But you know what
I'm saying, So it almost feels like it's a body.
But but you're bringing them up. You're a body that
you need, but almost that you're going to use him
in a situation that there's no specific you're the seventh
inning guy, so and so's the eighth inning guy, so
and so is the closer. But yeah, I would think
that you need more velocity at the back end of

(47:33):
your bullpen. Most most have that and a guy who
can ramp it up the way that a braik you can.
To me, that's the logic. Kimberll can get some outs
in different spots. And he's been in huge world series,
He's been in huge moments. He's been in high leverage
situations multiple times and millions of times in his career.

(47:55):
So but I don't think, like I said, is he
is He's not here. I don't believe to close it
out like I said, is he an eighth inning set
up guy because the difference in velocity between him and
a bray you is massive? Or is he a you know,
are you going to say, man, we could use him
here because this is a great matchup a guy who
doesn't hit, you know, his second pitch, whatever it is. Yeah,
I don't think you're seeing Kimball Kimberl in his normal role.

(48:18):
He's at the tail end of his career. And how
you get extra years out of it is being a
guy who can be versatile enough to you don't have
the velocity to close, but you can do some other things.
But you can't. I don't think you can bring him
out of the bullpen to winning, to close out a
game for you to say the game. And now you may,
but it won't be a consistent one. A brave is
your closer, and you and I both know that well

(48:39):
and Kimberl too.

Speaker 8 (48:40):
Ever, since he got dfa'ed by Atlanta for the one
game that he had pitched, he only faced three hitters
in that inning and he struck out one. But has
been in the minor league system with the Rangers before
coming over to the Astros. And as I mentioned too,
you know some of the VLO ticking down over the
years and said that it kind of started to happen
around twenty twenty one. It was ninety six point one

(49:05):
and at least last year with the larger body of
work down to ninety three point nine, where the average
fastball in Major League Baseball is about ninety five.

Speaker 7 (49:14):
Yeah, the closer is your former eighth inning guy. Okay,
And that put it this way, who's pitching if the
game's on the line is to get you into the playoffs.
I'm going you're up one run and you need three
outs in the bottom of the night. Two's pitching going
to breathe? Sure, and so were they so that I

(49:34):
always say this in running back situated, people said, well,
you got two running backs. Who's the starter? You know
a question I asked, who's playing in the fourth quarter
when you need to close out the game. Well, it's
this guy. Well that's your starting running back. Okay. It's
the same thing here. Well I'm talking about what it's
all the line and we need six minutes of a
guy to pass, protect, to catch the ball, and to run.

(49:54):
You're going to get seven or eight carries in the
quarter alone. Who's our starting run We got two of them.
It's the guy who's closing it, meaning because he's our
closer and running is a running back. Same thing here
when it matters and you need it. Who's closing out
the game? I know they may use somebody else, if
a brak who's gone back to back days, just like
you would with Hater. We've seen it so or any

(50:17):
closer for that matter. Rarely you see a guy go
the three three times, three days in a row to
close out a game. I guess it happens, but you
try to stay away from it if you can. And
depending on how many pitches I guess you throw. But yeah, no,
if the game's on the line, that's how you know
who you starting. Who your closer is? That the guy
they go to the majority of the time when it's

(50:38):
a it's a nut cut in time. And it's the
same in football. I've seen it. Oh man, we got
two backs, who are you going to have? Well, not
the guy. And if the guy who started maybe different
than the guy who closed it, who's your closer, Well
it's it's Joe Mixon. Well then he's going to be
in the game with the game online. And it's the
same thing here. A Brave's closing games for these guys
for the majority of the time, and Kimber will be
used in a different role, which is okay because you

(51:00):
know hell, he may come in here and sneak in
and grab himself a playoff and uh, you know, a
chance with a playoff team, and then who knows what
happens from there. I'm sure he'd like another ring on
his finger. So a good situation. He's not exactly trying
to extend his career on a team full of hacks,
so this is a good situation for him to come to.

Speaker 8 (51:18):
Well, and too mentioned that he was with the Rangers
Triple A affiliate there in Round Rock three point eight
six ere a whip of one point one four, pitched
in twenty one innings and struck out twenty eight. So
the case, even with the velocity going down, Sean has
still been there for him. So I mean, if nothing else,
like I said, maybe a high leverage spot here or there,

(51:41):
I mostly expect him to be middle relief. I mean,
I believe that you've trusted Caleb Ort even a little
bit more, even though last night he gives up the
walk and I threw it out on Twitter with Ort.
I was like, dude, you're up by five pitch to contact.
You're fine, Like, you don't have to make the perfect
pitch every single time. It's Okay, Like, if it's put
in play, you've got eight guys behind you, let them

(52:02):
field put it.

Speaker 7 (52:04):
What you do? You trust the guys behind you. And
like when you're up by that, well, you know what
happens when you walk guys, especially if you're walking lead
off guys are walking guys. That's how big innings happen. Biginning,
you know. Okay, so guy carved out a single on
you throw strikes and get out and and and if
it's if you're getting hammered, then we'll make a decision
to go get somebody else. But you want to make
an easy decision. Walk two or three in a row.

(52:25):
You'll find yourself. You'll find yourself in a dugout. So, yeah,
throw strikes. A lot of it happens. You get cute, man,
we all do. We all get a little too cute.
Oh I got a five run lead. Let me work
with this. Do back and do what you do and
throw it and let your defense behind you take care
of their business. And Craig Kimberl like the strikeouts are
there why because in certain situations you don't have to

(52:47):
throw in ninety nine to get people out. I know
a guy that you used to know in Atlanta was
pretty good at doing that as a starting pitcher, right
and even in those roles. So throw strikes and you know,
in and out, up and down, and and make sure
that you're not living out over the plate with the
fastball at ninety one, you'll be fine. And Kimberrell knows
how to get people out. He always has, even with
a Velo down, which tells me something. You look, he's

(53:09):
cage in Wiley and he understands leverage situations and I
can trust him in the fifth, sixth, seventh inning. And
I don't know, maybe there's a time when you say,
you know what, Kimberl's seen it before. Let's put him
in in a game when you know a bray You's
saved back to back game. Okay, I get it, but
a brave wh's closing games out. Kimber's going to be
a little bit of Swiss. I think you'll see him
in middle relief. And who knows, maybe at the back

(53:29):
end when you need somebody with the change of the
way their styles and a bray You to kimberle where
you're you know you're getting guys who have two different
approaches to the plate. Now because of the lack of velocity,
and that's okay, that'll be up to Joe and Dana
Brown and how they carve that out and the pitching staff,
the pitching coach staff to get him in. But he's
here for a reason. Dana knows who he is, he

(53:51):
knows all about him. So he's here for a reason.
They think he can get out and we'll see.

Speaker 8 (53:57):
I hope so well, even with the VLO down, I
don't think here counting on him being Eddie Harris, you know,
with the vesseline ball, you know, trying to find a
couple of three inches drop on his curve ball. I
think will be all right plus at least according to
his MLB bio, the nickname Sean is Dirty Craig.

Speaker 7 (54:16):
Well, it fits if you're getting if your strikeouts are
up and you're not pumping it right up there out
of the hunty. And I don't know if the dirty
has anything to do with club. Like Chipper Jones told
me the other day, he was talking about Maddox, he goes,
he's the dude. Yeah, he said, Maddox is the filthiest
pig on the nassa on the planet. So sometimes Dirty

(54:38):
doesn't mean you're filthy on the bound or dirty on
the bount I mean something else and and he meant
it affectually with Greg Goes And there's no bigger jokester
filthy human being meaning you know the prankster, the stuff
that you know, you know what I've done. Well, go
listen to the podcast. Chipper spells it out and obviously
Matt Greg doesn't. It doesn't care because the stories are epic, right,

(55:00):
And so I'm assuming in this case Kimberl's is because
of his pitching and didn't fly to all people when
it comes to that. But yeah, dirty Craig just get
some people out and turned dirty into filthy and we'll
take it.

Speaker 8 (55:13):
Then I was gonna say I'd heard those stories numerous
times about Matt dogg body and just to say you
didn't want to be on the other side of the prank.

Speaker 7 (55:21):
No, you sure didn't. And Chipper was one time. And
it's about as nasty as you'll ever hear.

Speaker 13 (55:26):
Dude.

Speaker 4 (55:27):
I think socks doesn't it well this one?

Speaker 14 (55:30):
Yeah?

Speaker 7 (55:30):
And it also, uh, when I say bacon strip, they're
not talking about the bacon strip you eat on your
breakfast table. Okay, oh yeah, yeah, Maddox was free. Maddox
was just as gross. He said, he's I think he
said he's the grossest human bee.

Speaker 4 (55:45):
Yeah, I've ever been around.

Speaker 7 (55:47):
Uh Eddie get man, dude, he boy, you want to
talk about got to get people out. But he said it,
and he because he loves Maddox obviously, but he's a
grossest human Because I asked him. I said, Smolts, Glad Smoltz, Glavet,
and Maddicks and he said, they're all three completely different.
John walks into a clubhouse. He's talking to everybody, mister socialite.
He'll tell you how great he is. And face Maddox

(56:11):
comes in. He goes, he's the He's the grossest human being.
I prement. And he said, Glavin doesn't say a word
USA Today crossword puzzle. He won't say a word. Yeah,
he goes get him on the golf course. They're all competitive,
so he goes, won't say a word. He said, they're
all three different, all three great. But yeah, you won't
come back and listen to that podcast with me and

(56:33):
Chipper Dude, you'll hear some stuff And I'm like, that
is the nastiest thing I've heard. Pranks and Maddox obviously
is a mount Rushmore prank pig right and with affection
I'm talking about and chipper, but nasty, dude, nasty.

Speaker 8 (56:47):
If you watch the Cowboys documentary, the eight part that's
on Netflix right now, just hearing some of these stories
about Charles Haley, it sounds like he and Greg Maddox
are kindrid spirits.

Speaker 7 (56:57):
Well, I've been fortunate to be on the listening end
of Charles Haley stories by somebody in that locker room
and Greg Maddock stories by somebody in that locker room.
And I'll prefer, you know what, I'm glad I was outside.
I'll get the second out of one clubhouse and out
of one locker room. Yes, give me the give me
the story. I don't want to live it, Okay, thank

(57:18):
you very much.

Speaker 8 (57:19):
I can deal with the reaction. I can't deal with
you know, it being done to you. So yeah, I confess.
I want somebody else to have.

Speaker 7 (57:26):
Had an experience it with me.

Speaker 4 (57:28):
No, No, that's two of us, all right.

Speaker 8 (57:31):
So you think you want to do this, huh, Well,
maybe I'm going to give you an idea for why
you should second guess that idea.

Speaker 4 (57:40):
We'll talk about it, right, here.

Speaker 8 (57:41):
It is a Shawn Salisbury show on a Friday Sports
Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 12 (57:45):

Speaker 7 (57:45):
I had a phenomenal conversation with a good conversation yesterday
with Trajan Wealth. And I'm sitting here thinking about my

the it's a you know, exploratory conversation. We're just talking
about who Trasan Wealth is. And I've known for years,

Speaker 2 (01:01:20):
This is the Sean Salisbury Show.

Speaker 7 (01:01:26):
All right, Sean? What are you hearing out there now?

Speaker 1 (01:01:29):
The Salsbury Stakeout, salsburyfe takeout on The.

Speaker 8 (01:01:34):
Sean Salisbury Show, and it is a Friday here on
the show. Sports Talk seven ninety Astros seven to two
winners last night, snapping a four game losing streak. They
take down the Orioles in Baltimore. Jodan Avarez three for
four with an RBI double and another double as well
as a single in his second rehab stint with the

(01:01:57):
Corpus Christy Hooks and the Texans and Alliance going to
play each other tomorrow, final preseason game. Sean cruises, You
ever been on one before? And what'd you think if
you did? I have in the second part, what do
you think if you did?

Speaker 7 (01:02:14):
Hey, on one second, let me fix this Dan on
my mic here, hang on, go ahead and tell me
what you think and I'll get right to you for that.

Speaker 4 (01:02:19):
Well, I've never been. Yeah, I've never been.

Speaker 8 (01:02:21):
I've only again, you know, we were talking about Maddox
getting information secondhand. I've only gotten it secondhand from people.

Speaker 7 (01:02:28):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (01:02:28):
And as a matter of fact, somebody that I know
was on the Number two cruise, the one that had
to get pulled into the Mobile Alabama Harbor, the one
that left Galveston. So you hear stories like that and
you're kind of like, damn good, I have been.

Speaker 7 (01:02:44):
I've been on a a I don't know three or
four of them. I haven't been in a long time.
I like them now. All the stuff that you know,
sometimes you hear is like one thing I don't like
and I do not like. I wouldn't go on a
cruise during hurricane season. I wouldn't do it. Well what,
I don't have many fears in life, but one thing

(01:03:04):
is if you one thing is being out on a
cruise ship with you know, the high swells. That's not
for me. And I don't get seasick. I love the
deep sea fish. I love to but the just the
thought it's not for me. I don't consider it a
roller coaster because it's kind of out of my hands.
I do not like that. So I if somebody said,
hey man, here's a free cruise, but it has to
be taken during hurricane season. Oh but the weather looks

(01:03:26):
good for five seas, ah man, we had to change.
That's not for me. I'm not doing that. I will
not do that. But I've been on him and never
had an issue like that. You know, most of time
you can't even tell them the cruise ships moving do
on those, you know, when you know it's clean and
that there's a class, the food, the midnight, the phase
off the charts, the food you put it this way,

(01:03:46):
save about twelve pounds, because that's what's happened. Dude, You're
gonna eat until the cows come home. I've been on
one that went through Saint John's and Saint KITT's and
Saint you know, Saint Martin one of those for like
seven days, eight days, and it was I loved it.
The only problem I don't One thing about cruise ships
I don't like is that you'll get to an island
that you love or a place you love, but that

(01:04:08):
cruise ship's not waiting on you. You go and we'll
be back on the you know the the ship by
five or four thirty or five. If you're there at
five point thirty, they they will leave, they will leave
port and they will be on their way. So you
find some and you're like sitting on the beach or
going or whatever it is you do when you when
you make a stop and you'll find a certain country

(01:04:29):
or you know, town or whatever that you love, and
you're like, I don't want to go yet. I want
to spend a second day here. That's the only problem.
Like if you go on vacation, like learn one of
those vacant but let's stay it extra day, okay, and
extend our trip. Not not there. But the ones I
went on were classy, great. You know. I always liked
the second setting for dinner, so you didn't have to

(01:04:50):
the first one is too rushed. Great food if you
go on the right cruise. I was fortunate that the
cruises I've been on have been been really really good.
Nice rooms and clean and great view. I like them
because I love the beauty of the ocean. I just
don't like being on oneed storm season where you can't
sit in front of you and those swells are up
that I don't like that because I don't want to

(01:05:12):
be that. I don't want to be I don't want
to be the story on the news that says, oh man,
did you just see these and tables are sliding back
and forth. That's not for me. But I've been lucky.
Food's great, and if you're going in then the weather's
good and all the stops, it's phenomenal. I just wish
you could stay longer in certain ports, but I don't
have a problem with them. And I've not experienced the

(01:05:32):
somebody gets the flu and you got out of the
boat and quarantined and you're out there for thirty extra days.
That would that would suck. And I've never been on
in bad love one of those ships in bad weather,
I've never been on. So I've been lucky, but I
haven't taken fifteen. My aunt, my mom's sister, she was
one of those that she could go and book it
because she'd go on. She'd been She went on two

(01:05:54):
hundred and fifty of them, I mean her vacations. She
didn't want to do all the work. She wanted her
and her girlfriends would go, or her and her husband.
They go on a cruise and they do it like
every two months, come back a month and a half ago.
That was they weren't flying, they were getting on a
cruise ship, and that's what they were going. And she would.
She to the point where she started booking cruise lines
and they were free. She'd get the extra, extra big room,

(01:06:15):
and she friggin loved them because everything's done for you.
You're drinking, buy the pool, you drink me phenomenal. But
I had I've had nothing but good experiences on cruise ships.
I understand why people don't like them. But if you
get the right cruise ship and then you meet some
cool pee, you can gamble out there. Once you get
outside with ten twelve miles out in the ocean, gamble,
there's movie, there's bowling alleys on some I Chris Carter

(01:06:37):
and I went on a cruise ship. We got one
from the through the Vikings was a Vikings line. We'd
go and all's we had to do was like a
seven night, eight day cruise to two of the days.
We had to go for two hours or whatever and
entertain Vikings fans. They got a Q and A and
the rest for our families was paid for. And Chris
is what we had a blast man it was a

(01:06:58):
phenomenal and the yes, it was just sun fun, great activities,
great stops and ports. We had a black So I
encourage them. And if you haven't been on one, I
think you should go on one. But pick the right spot.
Make sure you pick the right cruise line. It's not
dirty and nasty, and those are out there as well.

Speaker 8 (01:07:15):
Well, maybe I'll avoid the late night buffets you mentioned
because there was a recent and I'll leave the cruise
line out of it, a recent brawl over chicken tenders.
I love chicken tenders, had some on Sunday. They're delicious.
But I gotta tell you I ain't throwing hands over
chicken tenders.

Speaker 7 (01:07:33):
Well, I got news for you. Whatever cruise line it was,
and you're not gonna mention it, and you shouldn't. I
can tell you this. It wasn't a cruise It wasn't
a cruise line that would would allow that. Let's just
put it that way, because you should be going to
the midnight buffet without half and a half people throw
hands over a chicken tender or chicken finger. Stop it, okay,

(01:07:56):
friggin stop it. And the mid the mid I would say, forget,
You're not on the middipe. I fay go to the
mid dipe of favorite. It's the cruise line because the
cruise line that it's just it's like going to but
it's a traveling ritz Carlton, if you get the right
one or a track. Now, I know we all want
to save money on them and stuff, but sometimes if

(01:08:16):
you cut a few corners, put it this way, if
I'm going on a cruise line, I'm gonna make sure
I'm willing to spend more than less. Because we see
the videos of horror stories and you're telling who's fighting
over a chicken finger. Dude, go grab something else, okay,
or or or chick over a chicken finger. I'm not
fighting over a steak. Oh man, we don't have the
steak available this last good, then give me whatever the

(01:08:38):
one is. I'd like it. I mean i'd five, but
not on a cruise line. And you go on cruise lines,
hopefully you're not running out of chicken fingers or not
running out of steaks. But I've never had one ounce
of an experience of a fistfight. And people are drinking
on those things and have fun. But put it this way,
if you're going on a booze cruise. Expect trouble if
you're going on a cruise where people are on there
doing joy and be class and have fun and dance

(01:08:59):
and of and enjoy the music and watch ninety year
old grandpa out there, you know, pop lock and drop
during the dance scene. Cool. But you know one thing
I'm not doing is cutting corners on a cruise line.
When I'm out in the middle of the ocean. I
ain't fighting with anybody over a bite of food. But
it's the cruise line and some of them, well we've
seen airlines. You know those fights you'll have too, so

(01:09:22):
you know it's the environment you decide to create. I'm
not going on one of those cruise lines and fighting
over a damned chicken finger and line, So to me,
it's pathetic. It's what cruise lines will tolerate. And if
you're tolerting that you're always going to get. It's once
you tolerates what you're going to get.

Speaker 8 (01:09:37):
Well, having been the one that, having been the one
that delivers hangariness at times, I understand hangariness fully well.
So not to say that I'd fight over chicken tenders,
but you know, it is one of those things that
Lord knows what you'll do.

Speaker 4 (01:09:52):
Whenever you are a.

Speaker 7 (01:09:53):
Pizza and take your ass to the sheets to.

Speaker 8 (01:09:57):
Say you usually easily my vacations, no anybody else. I'm
a big fan of people, but usually my vacations I
want to be sands people in some case. All Right,
the Texans yesterday practicing with the Lions. Something that came
out of it that makes me very encouraged. We'll talk
about it right here. It is The Shawn Salisbury Show
on a Friday Sports Talk seven to ninety. The Shawn

(01:10:21):
Salisbury Show continued yesterday working out with the Detroit Lions.
They're going to meet up tomorrow for the final preseason
game and then in about a week we'll find out
what the final fifty three man roster is for the Texans.
But just seeing some of the reports yesterday, just looking
at Jonathan and Alexander's takeaways from practice yesterday, one of

(01:10:45):
them offensive lines starts slow but regains footing, pointing out
that there was a one on one between Aiden Hutchinson
and rookie left tackle arianta Ursii and a few reps
going back and forth between hit Hutchinson and Titus Howard,
but that the offensive line did start off slow, giving

(01:11:05):
up a couple of sacks for CJ, forcing them to
throw the ball in the dirt, but then able to
hold their own as the day went on. I gotta
tell you, for the offensive line play we saw last year,
if you're able to do that, granted it is one practice,
but it is against one of the best rosters in
the NFL. If you're able to do that, there's reason

(01:11:26):
to be encouraged for this team this year.

Speaker 7 (01:11:28):
Yeah. Well, going in, there's the biggest question for me
is how physical will they be? They said they're going
to be nastier this year. We heard that early on.
We want to be nasty, and we want to know
be physical. We want to know as being that. Well,
here we are, and you're exactly right, they're nasty. That
team is Detroit and we said yesterday and talking about it,
you're going to find out a lot. I didn't need
to find out if Aman Ross Saint Brown can run

(01:11:50):
a route. I don't need to find out if Nico
Collins is going to wear you out, and as one
of the more underrated great players in the league. What
I needed to find out is how your front seven
dealt with their big fellows in their run game, and
how you on the offensive line protected your quarterback and
moved the move the pile. If I didn't find anything
else out about these teams other than that, I'm good.

(01:12:12):
Get out of the get out of the third game healthy,
find if they're if there's a hidden gym, you're trying
to get one or two roster spots, you're trying to
decide on, decide on it. Keep your big stars out
of the game, and your your your big dogs out
of the game unless you're trying to get them a
series or two just for rhythm, because you got two
weeks before the opener the Thursday, the what the fourth

(01:12:33):
of September when the NFL starts in your your game
that week a couple of days later. I get it,
But keep Matta Harm's way. You found out on the
practice field. That's what you need to know. And while
it is just a it's a practice, but you know what,
I'd rather come out of a practice saying, Okay, I
like the look at that. Then I didn't like the
look of that, That question of ooh, who are we?

(01:12:55):
And Detroit's a Super Bowl candidate the type team they
are really good. They possess great finesse players, and they
possess an offensive line that can move you as well
witnessed and backs that they can score, and they can
get in the open field and make some plays. So
that's all I needed to That's all I need to
know interior wise at this stage. Just get me through

(01:13:16):
and get me healthy and ready to go in September.
Keep your quarterback upright, move the pile, and let the
physical running backs take care of their business, because Detroit
will test you, and that's a good that's a good
final practice type of test against somebody else to get
you trimed and ready for the regular season. And now
get focused on the real job ahead, the ones that
actually count. Preseason score doesn't matter. I mean, preseason score

(01:13:39):
doesn't matter, but it does the games. The games don't matter,
but the result meaning, But the game does meaning. The
inside battles with how's your left tackle? How do you
move in the right tackle? What are we doing in
a run game? So I don't care about the score
and the scoreboard in preseason. You want to win them,
but I don't care about that. But the games do matter.
The score doesn't, and we're not keeping the score when

(01:14:02):
it moves on to regular season. But those battles. Within
the battles, you find out a lot about players, and
Detroit can bring that out in you.

Speaker 8 (01:14:08):
I would say that they probably have a good idea
who their fifty three man roster is. So yesterday it
was very telling. And I mean you mentioned it the game.
I mean it's maybe a guy or two could kind
of if they're on the fence, you know, be able
to help you out in special teams. But yes, very
beneficial for the Texans yesterday, and they'll have their final
preseason action tomorrow. Let's stay with some football here as

(01:14:32):
we close out at seven o'clock hour, because somebody thinks
that they have stopped a problem, but they might have
created yet another one. We'll discuss that here on the
Sean Salisbury Show, a Sports talk seven to ninety. But first,
want to tell you about my good buddy, your good buddy,
and if you buy from him, you're gonna feel like
you're even better buddies. That's Kobe Stevens Apparel, Kobe Stevens

(01:14:54):
dot com, cob Y Stevens with a VS at the
end dot com. And I keep telling you about that
summer line. I mean just step outside. Do you really
truly think that summer is going anywhere anytime soon. It's
a rhetorical question because we know what the answer is.
It's not so all those great polos, t shirts, hats, shorts,

(01:15:15):
the ladies and youth options too, because the ladies and
the kids, you want to be looking good even if
you are off the course, and if you're on the course, well,
you want to be looking even better when you head
over to Kobe Stevens dot com. I've told you about
Kobe in the community all the time, he and his team.
I mean, it's pretty much any single golf tournament. You
go to the Houston Open a couple of years ago,

(01:15:36):
even a charity tournament you might be playing in, well,
chances are you're gonna see Kobe and the crew with
that tent and they're gonna have all of those goodies
in there where you don't even need the website. Just
go to them and say, yeah, hey, that polo right there.

Speaker 4 (01:15:48):
I like that. Ooh that shirt?

Speaker 7 (01:15:50):
Was it?

Speaker 8 (01:15:50):
Say, Birdie juice, it's got a hand holding the shot
glass there. Well, I could use that today because my
group in this scramble, we really need to go for
some low numbers, and I want to be looking good
after after the tournament two wearing one of those T shirts.
Kobe Stevens dot com is the easiest place that you
can find all of those great options. College football season
Week zero starts tomorrow and everybody else gets started next week.

(01:16:13):
So you want that purple and gold one, You want
that maroon and white one, you want that burnt orange
in white polo? How about a red and white one
for next Thursday night over in third Ward? All of
those available right now for pre order at Kobe Stevens
dot com. Kobe Stevens dot com is the easiest place
that you can find all of that great apparel from
Kobe Stevens Apparel, Kobe Stevens dot com, Coby Stevens with

(01:16:36):
a VS at the end. It's Kobe Stevens dot com.

Speaker 13 (01:16:41):
Want.

Speaker 2 (01:16:42):
Sean Salisbury continues on seven ninety want to continue.

Speaker 8 (01:16:46):
The football conversation because SHAWNA believe this was a conversation
that me, you and Gordy had off the air yesterday
and given the school, I don't think that you're going
to mind possibly going after this guy, or maybe you're
gonna one to agree with them. I don't know, but
you l a head coach Deshaun Foster. Apparently the media
availability has been curtailed quite a bit there at UCLA,

(01:17:09):
and he was asked about it a couple of days
ago after practice and one of the reporters the transcription,
can you explain kind of more restrictive media policies put
in place recently with no players today, no interviews, no
feature interviews, less viewing. Foster's response, Yeah, you guys film
our practice and put it online. If I was an
opponent for another team, I look at your guys stuff

(01:17:32):
and see what's going on. So for them not going
not going to beat on Tino or depth or anything
else that's going on.

Speaker 4 (01:17:40):
I don't know who Tino is. That's why it's closed.

Speaker 8 (01:17:43):
And as for interviews, same thing because if they come
over an interview, you guys are gonna ask are they
a starter?

Speaker 4 (01:17:49):
Are they this? Are they that?

Speaker 8 (01:17:51):
On the surface. I look at this, Sean, and I'm like,
you're just creating trouble for yourself. Because remember last year,
Deshaun Foster did not have a very good first impression
with the media when he addressed them at Big ten
Media Day.

Speaker 4 (01:18:06):
As a matter of fact, it became kind.

Speaker 8 (01:18:07):
Of a joke for how he went up there and
just looked like he was unprepared, just not selling his
program whatsoever. But the moral of the story is this
is not going to help them be a better football program.
It's not going to help them be a better team
and more often and not put the policies in place
to at least have restrictions on things like I've been

(01:18:30):
around numerous either NFL or college programs. Hey you can
film this, Hey you can't film that. No tweeting during practice,
you can't tweet that out until coach addresses it. Any
of those different types of things. That's fine. You know
the rules, and if you don't, then you can be
dealt with. So on and so forth. And in terms
of players in everything, one of the programs I've been around,
when we talked to the same guys pretty much week

(01:18:50):
in and week out, we got tired of it. But
then we came to find out, Oh, they're on the
leadership council. That's why those guys are out there talking
with them every time. You can control these things and
avoid issues like this.

Speaker 7 (01:19:03):
Yeah, you sure can. There to arrival, I respect to
Sean Foster because he was a really good player as
a head coach. He doesn't get it when it comes
to this. I'd be saying this if Lincoln Riley or
just Kirby Smart said the same thing, that where he
goes happens to be a crossdown rival of me. Doesn't
matter what he says, it's silly. One is you can

(01:19:26):
control it. Two is I understand if you've got special
plays game planning. This is training camp where everybody's doing
their thing getting ready. You putting your library in when
you're game planning, of all of a sudden the week
of your opening game and you've got some three special
plays in the red zone, and turn your phones off. Guys,

(01:19:47):
you have media people walking around and in turns and
all that can't have her phone. And if you put
this on your time stamp it obviously well you put
it on at seven o'clock at night as opposed at
seven in the morning. The other team's still going to see.
But undone gained all those things. You'll know, and if
people aren't abiding by the rules, there are certain things. Listen,
do you really think that I got to worry about

(01:20:08):
USC if I'm UCLA knowing that I run a curl
in my offense. We put in specific game plans. We're
not game planning and training camp. You're putting in what
you do. Everybody knows what Deshaun Watson that offensive system is.
Now they got Nico a new quarterback. Great, everybody knows
what Nico's strengths are. Nobody's given away game plans during

(01:20:30):
training camps that you want. And then you're going to
complain why you don't get good coverage for your football program,
for recruiting and all that. I do understand that some
are over zealous media that want to be the person
gets it out first and tries to film certain stuff
or audio on something and puts it up there to

(01:20:50):
pull the old Oki dough. And then what you simply
do is you take away their credential. It's simple. You
set rules. If they don't follow the rules, hey I don't.
If I see this on social media, you're not going
to be allowed back out at practice. It's pretty simple.
It's like any rule anywhere. You say it to a player,
show up three times late to practice, and your scholarship,

(01:21:12):
you'll be playing somewhere else. They do, They're playing somewhere else.
Do the same thing for media set standards live by
them telling them that the player is not going to
come after practice. It's common, it's common, it's standard procedure
for immedia to ask guy, how'd you practice and where
do you think you're on the depth chart? WHOA, Well,
I'm sitting too, but I got to work hard to

(01:21:33):
get the one I'm sitiding one.

Speaker 15 (01:21:34):
It is.

Speaker 7 (01:21:34):
We've got a great competition. And I don't get Deshaun
Foster's approach to this. I just don't. I don't understand
why his disdain for the media, the same media he's
going for. A guy who now is the head coach
should get a better understanding. You do have to shake
hands and kiss babies. I didn't say kiss ass. I
said you have to do it. But if you want

(01:21:56):
to do it, you go to nick SABS program. You
follow in certain standards. Well, Deshaun's not Nick. You're right,
but we don't like to be Nick as a coach.
Set them the fact you're not giving any players, You're
not letting anybody on the practice field. I understand once
and why I say, you know today it's Thursday before
SC game. You're not worth closing practice. You're not allowed
on there's nobody that. Okay, first ten minutes you're there,

(01:22:18):
practice is closed and alls you have to simply say, well,
they're watching with an ake and eye. Listen, please don't
film this. If we see it on social media, you
are not going to be welcome back here because yes,
there are certain plays in certain situational football that you
do not want. Well, we see Spygate and now that
you do not want your opponent to see. In certain
situational football, everybody runs toss, sweep, everybody runs ourpo this

(01:22:42):
is training camp. You're not game planning for USC or
Michigan or you know, anybody or Ohio State. You're putting
your library in. So having them there, this is common
protocol that every school in the country does it. If
a media member, just like a player, decides to break
protocol and wants to go out there and go rogue
and do their thing, you simply keep them away from

(01:23:04):
and they blow it for everybody else at their organization
that that paper doesn't get anybody else, so that media
outlet news outlet doesn't get anybody else. It's pretty simple.
You can see timestamps. There ain't nobody lying about it.
I mean they show up so this is just a
control freak, what sort, oh my gosh, paranoid and kind

(01:23:28):
of to hold control over the media and fans. It's
silly if you two guys will compete and put them
up there. They got to handle the media. What's gonna
happen if somebody throws five touchdown passing is a year?
Are you gonna say, don't go up there because we
don't want you to think that you're bigger than the team.
Teach your kids to handle it's the way it is.
Teacher players to handle it certain things, and media needs
to know their place too. We all do certain things

(01:23:48):
you just can't do, don't film, And I would think
as a media member covering the team daily, i'd want
good things for my team. So I'm not going to
put your double reverse bounce pass you throw backwards and
throw for a double pass for a touchdown. I'm not
going to post that on a Friday before you're playing
on a Saturday, just so your opponent could see. So

(01:24:08):
we get beat that way, and a big play is
blown because well they saw that you were going to
run it. Okay, have some common sense, which we don't
have very much. And Deshaun's a good guy. DeShawn doesn't
understand quite the media thing as a head coach. He's
blown it a couple times. But you're trying to bring
people to love your program, including the eighteen year old
that's playing high school football that you want to recruit.

(01:24:31):
It's access. Access can be limited. You set those standards
and let people abide by them and follow them. If
they don't, you don't let them out there. It's not
that hard. And if they don't like you, oh well,
they're going to write what they want or say what
they want anyway. But the video and all that, let
it go. We all are Let's set standards and rules
and here's how we do it at this program. If
you want to be a part of it and cover it,

(01:24:52):
you want that good stuff out there. You want your
players to be out there. You want your players to
be able to go out there and to build relationships
with fans and media to close practices. Well, you're gonna
ask him if he's a starter or not, and and
that why he's competing to start and give your best
chance to win. I mean, are we serious here? Come on, man?

(01:25:13):
A little logic? Well, man, you they're running curl flat
combo and the guy's throwing a check down on third
and three? What oh you mean what other with all
the other three hundred schools are doing. He runs ourpo
and the quarterback's got good feet. Is if we don't
know that about Nico already? Okay, so it's silly, it's dumb.
Media and fans need to know their place, and so

(01:25:33):
does the team. It's pretty it's a pretty easy concept
to grasp and if you blow it, then you're not
welcome anymore. It's that's not that hard to understand. It's
not gray area. There is no gray area. When comes
that it's black and white, well.

Speaker 8 (01:25:45):
It just seems like it's borrowing trouble if nothing else.
And when it comes time for pressure on a coach
who's writing those columns, hey, this guy needs to be
out of here.

Speaker 4 (01:25:54):
He doesn't get it. It's the people you're trying to.

Speaker 7 (01:25:56):
Idea, Dan, social media and media in itself, and the
radio shows and TV shows. While we say they don't
have that much power that they can move the needle,
they have got coaches fired before, because when it gets
right down to it, if somebody's pining to keep you
because the way you had your kids, or you've you've
let the me and the media they're going to write

(01:26:16):
it any They're gonna write something anyway. Now what are
they writing today, Dan that Deshaun Foster would not allow
anybody out there to watch practice. So what's the next
feeling about all of me? Oh, we got to do
this so you get that negative thought process right right
instead of you know what, Maddy gave us access and
then when you feel and it's listen, sometimes you got

(01:26:37):
to use you got to use Honey's a little bit
better when it comes back. Now, there's sometimes you just
got to say, now this ain't You're not going to
ask that question and be disrespectful like that to my player,
the Mike Gundi, Hey, I'm forty, I'm a man. Talk
to me about that certain things. But you know what,
for the most part, media does a fair job and
they're doing their job just like Deshaun Foster is. That
is part of his job is being able to deal

(01:26:58):
with the media and have his players do it too.
This is not a good way to sell your program,
and I got news for you. UCLA football needs to
sell its program. I can promise you that for sure.
You got to do better, gotta do better.

Speaker 8 (01:27:10):
Yeah, just just look at the lack of attendance there
at the Rose Bowl. All right, let's get back into
the Astros conversation because once unknown now counted on.

Speaker 4 (01:27:19):
We'll tell you who that is.

Speaker 7 (01:27:21):
Right here.

Speaker 4 (01:27:21):
Sean Salisbury Show, KBM.

Speaker 2 (01:27:24):
Houston, ADHD two Houston, my heart radio station.

Speaker 1 (01:27:28):
The Astros, the Rockets, Rockets, your home for your home teams.

Speaker 7 (01:27:35):
This is Sports Talk seven.

Speaker 11 (01:27:36):
Ninety from the Parsons that match next Studios.

Speaker 7 (01:27:43):
Saulsbury, oh Ysbury, Houston. Okay, let's do this. Sewan Salisbury, Salisbury,
so usc true, longtime friend, Sewn Salisbury, Dan Matthewscuse.

Speaker 2 (01:27:58):
This is the Sean Seals Very Show, breaking that four
game losing streak, beating the Orioles seven to two there
in Baltimore.

Speaker 8 (01:28:10):
Back at it again tonight. Lance mccullors Junior making his
return from the blister. How about your Don Alvarez with
the corpus Christy hooks last night, second game of rehab
action three for four, a couple of doubles, one of
those with a run batted in and a single as
well as a strikeout, and the sec you're gonna go
to one nine game conference schedule starting next season, three

(01:28:32):
annual opponents for each school, So don't worry, Aggie's and Longhorns,
you will be seeing each other every single year. So
the SEC joining the rest of power for football. In
terms of the conference schedule, we're talking Astros right now.
If you want to get in seOne, three, two, one, two, five, seven,
ninety and sean. It was three straight starts quality outings

(01:28:54):
by Jason Alexander. Two of those were wins. The last
one was, ironically enough, the last time the Astros had
won before last night, where they beat the Orioles in
twelve innings over at dyke In Park, but five and
a third. They got to him a little bit there
in the sixth, so you got to bring in Stephen
Oker to be able to try to limit the damage.
He's able to as one of those inherited runs does score,

(01:29:16):
but aside from a home run, still a good outing
by Jason Alexander. Tell me if in twenty twenty five
you had a guy named Jason Alexander being a difference
maker for the Astros.

Speaker 7 (01:29:28):
I did not, neither did you. I didn't know Jason
Alexander until he I mean, I had no idea about
his game until he took the mound on this team,
did you no no, no idea, no idea. All of
a sudden, this guy Jason Alexander started like you said, Sean,
give me a scouting report. Well, my scouting report is

(01:29:51):
can you hand me Google? I have no idea who
Jason Alexander is. Well I do now, and it's been impressive.
And of the of what the last four appearance is yesterday,
I get when you say I put it in like
kind of rolling my eyes. His worst, but he gave
you five What did he get to? How deep did
he get in the fit Dand was it five and

(01:30:11):
a third or was he just straight five?

Speaker 4 (01:30:13):
He was five and a third?

Speaker 8 (01:30:14):
Yeah he got but then a couple more singles loaded
the base.

Speaker 7 (01:30:19):
Yeah, five and a third. That's as far as the
last handful of starts. That's been his worst out, and
yet was able to get in there, gut it out,
keep the runs down, and the bullpen came in and
finished out. I thought he was. And it helps that
he got help early on. You could pitch a little
more freely, even though you know they I think they
had eight hits off from seven or eight hits off
him in the watching last I don't know. It might

(01:30:40):
have been less than that, or it might have been more,
but it was in that range, and it was he
just scattered him around and was able to do his job.
That was a solid start. Whatever they judge how they
judge him to all the quality starts and the numbers
that go with it. But for this team they needed
it again and he stepped up again. But listen, man,
he has been a he has been a you know what,
Like I said I to it reminds me of not

(01:31:01):
his pitching style or any of that, and he's probably
gone a little deeper, but the way he's gone in
he say, who's JP Frantz. I've heard of him, but
what's he all about? A couple of years ago when
he came in when they were going through some hell
and the injuries, Bam stepped in into his job in
the bullpen as a starter, and you're like, you know what,
this guy's been really good for and now we look
forward to having him back. I think Jason Alexander's far

(01:31:24):
exceeded anybody, even the people who might have known him,
like may probably a Brian McTaggart, guys like Channel Rome,
who baby know him or maybe don't. I know Brian does,
Brian knows probably everybody, but when it comes to understand,
but I had no idea what kind of stuff the
guy had or who he was. If you ask me
right now to this day where he's from, I don't
have any idea. I don't know where he played college ball,
what a round he was drafted. I just know this

(01:31:46):
as a pitcher at the astral for the Astros, he
has been a godsend when they've needed him through this
and again last night. Does this job. You can't keep
him right now out of the starting rotation. You can't,
You absolutely cannot. I don't care who gets healthy. I
don't know how you move him around right now? Who
do you trust more? If they're in Lance mccullors or

(01:32:06):
Jason Alexander.

Speaker 4 (01:32:08):
I think you know the answer to that. It's not
even close right now.

Speaker 7 (01:32:11):
Stuff, we know how good mccullor's is, but we're still
there's a blister still keeping him out of the lineup.
A blister that's a that's a severe blister, I can
tell you that. And Jason Alexander's posting and posting, not
just posting and just showing up he's he's performing the
other p a lot of PS, performance potential posting. He's

(01:32:34):
doing it all and and has been great for this.
You can't take him out when Lance mccullor's come back.
If you were if you said, man, we're down to
one pitcher mccullors or Jason Alexander, the answer is really simple, mccolors,
you're in the bullpen. You are. He is not replacing
him right now. I can't do it. So the trust
factor that doesn't mean a long time I've known about
today right now in the starting with you can't do it.

(01:32:57):
Like I said, part of ability and performance is you
got to show up, and he is. And while he's there,
he's getting it done. So what I know about him now,
he looks like he's got a mentality attacks you. He
gets after it. He's throwing strikes, he's helping giving his
team a chance to win. Isn't that what you always want?
I'm going to give you a chance to win, and

(01:33:17):
he does and he has, and the team responded last
night by you know, giving himselves the best run, you know,
best to run performance they've had in a minute. So
I'm all for it. And you can't you cannot regard.
I don't care if Garcia gets healthy. I mean, doesn't
matter to me until Jason Alexander proves he can't. He's
proven he can, he stays in the rotation.

Speaker 8 (01:33:40):
Three and oh was a one point five to four
in his twenty three and a third innings pitched so
far this month, and in the four starts he's made,
last night was the least effective in terms of innings
pitched because he's gone well, he solid six innings in
the last three.

Speaker 7 (01:33:56):
Dan, let me ask you this, what would we he's
saying about him if if he was a guy that
had been in the organization, was a young stud, if
it was I'm just I'm not comparing him to him
or his stuff. But if let's just say O TAWI
or schemes, which they do, I mean Skeens does, but

(01:34:17):
in their first four starts, let's say a first round
you know, the third pick of the draft or the
first pick of the draft that you brought up after
ten minor league starts. I'm just using this an example,
and this was how he was performing, and he was
a high pubbed guy, what would you be saying, what
a great draft pick that's phenomenal. What a future he has.

(01:34:37):
Look at the iarn run average, Look how he's look
at the depth of his innings, and he's still he
still doesn't understand how to go deep. He just walked
off a college campus a year ago, or he was
in minor league baseball. For you look at what he's doing,
you'd be you'd be giddy it just he did. You know,
he's not the he got highly pubbed. Nobody really knew
about him. He came out of nowhere in my life.

(01:34:59):
I didn't who he was. So point how old is he?
I have zero idea how old is he? How long
has he been in Major League baseball?

Speaker 8 (01:35:05):
Alexander is see he was born in ninety three, so
he's thirty two.

Speaker 7 (01:35:11):
And he's not a kid right now. If the other one,
you know, we'd be saying about guys at thirty two
that you'd be saying, damn, this guy's really got it,
this guy's really grinding out this time. It is not
a lot of innings logged over his career. I would
imagine like somebody thirty two has been an everyday starter
all the time. Everywhere I think about that, he's pitching
like like he's got like, he's, man, I'm pitching for

(01:35:34):
a contract at twenty five years old. If you'd asked me,
I said, I don't know. Is he twenty seven, twenty eight?
I don't know nothing. But now we start to know
about him. So think about what he's doing. And if
he was a highly publicized twenty five year old, we'd
be saying, this kid's future is going to be really,
really good. He's given you stuff thirty two years old.

(01:35:54):
You're getting something out of him that you would have taken.
If I'd have said you have to bet it, you
just said, no way, dude, I taking that risk. Well,
who knows what's gonna happen. But for these last four starts,
Jason Alexander has earned the right to make another one.
That's a that's a damn fact.

Speaker 8 (01:36:09):
Yeah, it's definitely showing up at the right time for
the Strows and uh, hopefully Lance mccullors Junior can hit
the ground running tonight as the Astros starting to little
by little get some of their injured guys back. Dwayne
Jason Lewis, see all three of you right there, you
will be worked into the conversation.

Speaker 4 (01:36:26):
You want to join them?

Speaker 8 (01:36:27):
Got a couple of spots open for you seven one
three two one two five seven ninety. Again it's seven
one three two one two five seven ninety and Sean,
we are just into the eight o'clock hour here, so
that means that the breakfasts been digested. Maybe the coffee
you gotta go back and get that second cup, but
soon enough you're gonna need that second wind. And a

(01:36:48):
way that you can get that second wind is a
full belly, great barbecue, great environment, great everything over at
JBRM Barbecue.

Speaker 7 (01:36:57):
Well, we've been telling you all along how baseball season, man,
it's right there by DIYK in Park or the you know,
the Convention Center with a Toyota Center. Come on over
before and after. You don't need a vent to get
over there. We've talked about. But now let's add to
it football season, University of Houston, the Texans, all that
and your college football, and if you just want to eat,

(01:37:19):
if you want to grab and go, order it, because
I'm going to do it this year. If I don't,
I'm gonna go and it's gonna be one of my
catered for my party at home. We'll go in there,
order it and bring it to the crib. That's how
good it is. And yeah, I live a distance away
from jybar and Barbecue where I am, but it'll be
worth every second of it because the food is delicious.
You got the indoor outdoor if you want to stay

(01:37:41):
and go about it at the facility right there at
the venue, you got great parking, the customer service off
the church. But the food, the food, the food, and
the food is ridiculous. It's one. It wouldn't matter the
location when food's that good. Hell, you'll tell you you'll
go through the jungle, the forest and the trees to
get to that barbecue. And trust me, well I don't.
I'm not a barbecue expertise cooker. I know how to

(01:38:02):
cook it, but like the pitmaster there, I know how
to judge it, need it and it is off the
charts and Jbarron Barbecue dot Com for all the stuff
you need and for the great food. If you want
to eat with Joe's body heat, it's right there on
the menu because he loves it too. So what a
great place whether you want to pick it up and
take it, but I would suggest your first time going
and enjoy the indoor outdoor facility because it's going to

(01:38:24):
be off the charts for you. And you'll, I think,
echo what Dan and I've been saying, Dan, great food,
phenomenal barbecue.

Speaker 8 (01:38:31):
Yeah, I mean you even said it. The food speaks
for itself. But then you got that full service bar,
the beer garden outside, the brainchild of mister Toomey and
the elite team that he's got. You got Hoffee in
the front of the house. You got a rush back
in the pit room, firing up all the goodies, the brisket,
the jalapeno cheddar sausage. Maybe even you're feeling a brisket
burger today, Well let's get a little let's get a

(01:38:54):
little risky today, all right, if you're feeling really froggy,
let's have a good time. Maybe a little bit of
some pretzel bites. All of that is in play for you.
The sides, everything right there. It's jbar M Barbecue, twenty
two one Leland Street. J. Barr M Barbecue right there
in Ito.

Speaker 7 (01:39:10):
Let the celebration start.

Speaker 2 (01:39:12):
War Sean Salisbury, The Sean Salisbury Show, Dwayne and El
Paso wants to get us going.

Speaker 4 (01:39:19):
Dwayne, good morning, Good morning, gentlemen.

Speaker 7 (01:39:23):
Made a piece of what would be with you, Sam.

Speaker 16 (01:39:26):
I wanted to express my feelings about the Astros today.
All that they're going through, the injuries, the errors, no
hits and things like that. I believe that they're there
filled with confidence. Their pictures are doing, you know, enough

(01:39:46):
to know that their infielders are going to back them
up in whatever they throat. And that gentleman that got
injured the other day that I guess they took them
off in a.

Speaker 17 (01:39:58):
Carrier or whatever.

Speaker 16 (01:40:00):
Of someone like that that goes after something, the ball
that was hit the way it was hit, and then
you know, still comes up with a catch. That's a
confident man there. And those infielders y'all have. Those are
confident players. They know what it takes to get to
the rules Series and how to get into the playoffs.
And I believe that they'll take first place.

Speaker 13 (01:40:22):
Now.

Speaker 7 (01:40:23):
Fix that noise.

Speaker 4 (01:40:24):
Man, I was gonna say, Man, can you close your
door or do something?

Speaker 18 (01:40:28):
Let me call you.

Speaker 8 (01:40:28):
Yeah, just another time, man, Yeah, come on man, uh
you know, buckle up the seatbelt, close the door, turn
on the car, do whatever you gotta do.

Speaker 7 (01:40:38):
Man.

Speaker 8 (01:40:38):
But Shawn, I'm with you. That was killing me. God love,
But no, I mean to his point Uh. You know,
Brian bogus Sevic joins the Matt Thomas Show with Ross
every single week, and that's one thing he talked about
is he said, this isn't an effort issue with the Astros.
I mean, you saw that with Taylor or Tremuel. He's
back on the il cervical muscle streen is what they're

(01:40:59):
calling it. They checked him for a concussion first, but
I mean, you still saw guys playing hard. It's just
it was the lack of execution, mostly at the plate.

Speaker 7 (01:41:10):
There's no doubt about it, no doubt about it. The
lack of execution at the plate. Damn. But that's been
a problem, not just for one player, for two players.
You know. It's kind of coming droves right through this
real quick. And he makes a good point. I wish
we could hear him when it's not beeping and making
that sound. Think about this through the streak. And I
don't have the numbers in front of me, and I'm

(01:41:31):
not you don't either, So I'm not putting you or
me on the spot. Maybe somebody does know. But through
this streak of the struggle, let's just say, how long
is the struggle at to play? I know it's been
inconsistent all year. What do we get Let's say what
ten games, eight games, well, whatever you want to call it.

Speaker 8 (01:41:46):
Adam Imean last night said that before the Korea two
runs single that he had that they were zero for
their last twelve with runners in scoring position.

Speaker 7 (01:41:54):
Okay, so just was runners and scoring. Let's just give
it a ten game run fair enough. Let's just say
ten games fair okay. So over the ten games, how
many people have been hot at the plate?

Speaker 4 (01:42:06):
I can't name one.

Speaker 7 (01:42:08):
Sizzling to the point where you're like, damn, I'm not
talking about one for four, one for four, one for four,
three games. I'm talking about you know where it's like, damn,
you know who that they thank goodness, he's hot, like carrying,
you know what I'm saying. So it wasn't just one
or two we say, man, now the middle of the
we talk about you've got to get production from the
big boppers, in the middle of the lineup, in the

(01:42:28):
middle of the order. You got to you got to
be able to have table setters. All those things we
talk about in baseball jargon and in the analytics and
numbers of the thing, but in truth, through this, through
the problem and I'm not talking about other teams, I
know teams to it. We're specifically talking about the team
we cover. In a ten game stretch. How many times
you say, man, this roster, there's four of them that

(01:42:49):
are hot, these other five have to go. It's been
unfortunately the wrong time for a lot at the wrong time. Right, Yes,
a leadoff hitters and your number two, your star kreers
started good but cooled off a little bit, and the
ideals go for one for four, but then it's looked
uglier than it's looked pretty, and Christian Walker will hit
a home run, but then go three days where you know,
you pop up and leave runners and scoring positioners strike out,

(01:43:11):
and Sanchez finally goes five for five, but he's had
a miserable go of it. So it's not been one
where you can leave. Even Victor Karattini, who was you know,
we thought he'd had his troubles. I mean, so you
look around the lineup and it's like sometimes you say, okay,
we can live without three or four guys either going
through a ten days or ten games where they've struggled
a little, But it's really hard when eight of them
are and a guy off the bench is hard. I

(01:43:32):
mean Dubond mixes in a hit or you get a
home run out of him. I mean, it's just it's
been a it's put it this way, injuries. How does
it get more rock bottom or worse than that? Your
a couple of your big players, got your closer's gone.
But at the plate, Jordan has been gone, Jake Myers
has been gone. You've struggled as a team, not just
as an individual, as a team all at the same time,
and the injuries compounded, and then you're losing and you're

(01:43:55):
getting shut out and the other team's hitting double digits
on you, what three or four times or whatever during
the streak, and you're like, damn, is there two guys
that can carry us or at least keep us in it.
That hasn't happened, And it's for me, it feels rare
when a full team goes cold. At least sometimes there's
a guy or two that you saying, well his averaging
and even Painia and didn't you point the numbers out?

(01:44:17):
He had kind of cooled off a little, right Dan, Yeah,
for a minute. I think you mentioned it yesterday or
the day before. So just I mean, with the naked
eye'll tell you know. And he's had a great year.
I'm not talking about the overall. You're just through this streak.
So if you were looking for trouble, just like one
of our callers earlier said, and I'm surprised Joe spotted
and Twist's ankle walking up the dugout steps with all

(01:44:37):
they've had to go through. So it was a time
when we talk about momentum, when somebody comes in and
changes the energy. This the momentum was negative. It was like,
this guy's not hot, this guy's not hot. Who's picking
him up? That's what we were looking for. Who's that
guy or those guys? And hopefully last night's the beginning
of those guys. You know, Victor gets his hits yin

(01:44:58):
or gets his home run, Walk gets his home run.
Now you started to see, okay, Correa does his thing.
Now that's who they are, So hopefully the worst of
the worst when it comes to lack of production that
the plate is over and Jordan doing his thing obviously
adds that to the lineup. So hopefully we've seen rock
bottom and now you're sitting with rock Bottom instead of

(01:45:18):
grabbing a shovel and keep digging. You're digging deeper with
rock bottom, and what you need to do is take it, start,
you know, hitting that shovel on the side of it,
and start building steps. And hopefully last night's one of
those nights.

Speaker 8 (01:45:30):
Yeah here, I mean, as you mentioned, here's hoping because
I mean it's been sorely needed, and as I've talked
about too, you've been lucky enough that the Mariners have
lost during this stretch. But I mean, isn't there a
part of you too, Sean, and we can carry this
over to the other side. That's like, gosh, if you
win one or two of those games, you win that
game last night, you're four games up right now.

Speaker 7 (01:45:51):
Yep, yep, Oh, there's no doubt of it. Let's discuss that,
because what's the Atlehead night day off yesterday?

Speaker 15 (01:45:57):
Right?

Speaker 7 (01:45:57):
Yes, I don't think they played, so you've moved to
you gain a half game on them, correct, So you're
up too, and you're you're right. Just steal two of them, right,
Just steal two of them and now you're at least
you're breathing a little easier without a little oxygen tank.
But hey, this is why you're in it. And if
there's an advantage. It goes to the astros. Why because
they've seen the movie and have lived in dealing with

(01:46:18):
resilient and having resilience in dealing with this for the
I mean they've done it year after year after year.
They understand what it's like to be in high leverage
situations and not just at the mound. So let's see
how it turns out. Man. I like last night and a.

we'll let triple check on him. Let's go to Clay
and Hockey play a lot.

Speaker 7 (01:48:58):
Of phone gigs today, Daniel.

Speaker 8 (01:49:00):
I know, I don't know what's up, Clay. Clay's gonna
break the streak though, Clay, what's up?

Speaker 19 (01:49:05):
Thank guys?

Speaker 13 (01:49:05):
Thought you were doing this morning?

Speaker 4 (01:49:06):
Good?

Speaker 13 (01:49:07):
Yeah, it's it's encouraging, you know, it's like to feel
you know, we n a the three the three Games,
the four Hands before that. But my thing is, I
mean they've got to sustain this. Who knows that? But
why are they said their plate discipline is just there's
no plate discipline. They swing at everything. I think it
was San says the other night got he swung at

(01:49:29):
a up all the hit him in the leg a curve.
I hit him in the leg and he swung at it.
So you know, to me, I know people talk about
slogging percentage and you know, and and an ops. But
to me, a big part of the success factor is
on base percentage because it's you know, even if you're
taking a walk, it's just like you're getting a base
hit and that's out breast. He you know, he takes

(01:49:51):
a walks, that's good pay. Or Paine has got playing discipline,
so does a carea as an extent, but you got
walk or you got uh, Like I said, you got Walkord,
you got uh. Sanchez swings everything, Diaz please everything. So
I just wonder, you know, why that's not being addressed
or is there something they could do about that to
maybe remit here at least help help them, help help them.

Speaker 4 (01:50:14):
Help Yeah, no, appreciate the call, Clay, I.

Speaker 7 (01:50:17):
Mean discipline, plate discipline and the weather they're at bats.
You know, we we we kind of joke when somebody
said when you're struggling. Oh it was good at bat. No,
they haven't had many good events. Last night they did, Yes,
they did. As an overall team last night, they sure did.
Sanchez had a bunch of them to answer, was it Jason,
you said, who's that? Who's so called? Yeah it was
that Jason Clay. Okay, Jason called before that, right, yeah,

(01:50:40):
Clay Clay, thank you. Great point. And if they can
they sustain it. I think a lot of us don't
know the the the history of the season would tell
you no, right that it'll be streaky, and a lot
of that has to do with play discipline. Now, maybe
Jordan changes those things. You know, you've got free swingers
on you you never get listen now two Bay's gonna

(01:51:02):
free swing anyway. And I would that's like telling the
person that's aggressive to you know, just that back, this
is how you've lived your career. That's how he's going
to be. You're just gonna have to go through some
at bats where you're like, what yet, You're gonna go
through those at bats who say, oh, yeah, that ball
is out of the strike zone and he hit it,
you know, above the train tracks. That's that's who he is.
And I'm okay with that. But as an overall team,

(01:51:22):
the only way they're going to sustain it is working
pitch counts and not waving at bad picture anyway. I
don't care if you were on Lordship and hit six
hundred like he did down in Corpus Christy. The rest
of the guys are going to have to be in
position to get on base, be disciplined, work pitchers, take
a walk, you know, lay off a three to two

(01:51:43):
hook that's outside the strikes on. It's non competitive.

Speaker 17 (01:51:46):
That.

Speaker 7 (01:51:46):
Yeah, that's a great question. I don't have the answer.
I would imagine Dan doesn't either, But a big part
of good at bats is plate discipline and forcing the
pitchers to get deep into counts and doing it. Hell,
I don't have problem the balls in your in your wheelhouse.
Let it rip, but you have to and that to me,
that's the only way they can sustain it. And the

(01:52:07):
power should increase. There's no question with a big fella
about ready to come back. So I don't played. I
don't know if they can, and this season would tell
you that it's that they'll go through one more you know,
a couple of games where they'd lay look like what
are you doing? But there's two games in front. Maybe
they see it and this is their time a year,
which I like. But I think that maybe history this

(01:52:31):
year would tell us you're just gonna have to deal
with those moments or we come on the radar that
they say, what did we see last night? Just like
you're gonna come on like we did last night. You're
banging out twelve hits and Sanchez goes five for five
and you know, get a couple home runs and some
extra base hits and your drive runners in that are
in scoring position. You'll get that. We hope it's more
of that, but I can't. I don't have that answer.

(01:52:52):
I do not have the answer if they're disciplined enough
to sustain this, But those good at bats will simply
come from are you disciplined enough to layoff pitches that
are that are pitches that are not ones that you
can drive well?

Speaker 8 (01:53:06):
I mean, I understand previous games and performances and said games,
but I mean he mentioned heyesus Sanchez, it was pretty
good last night, five for five, and that's the best
that I have to go off of right now. And
in terms of plate discipline, Sean, this is a team
that hammered out twelve hits last night, they struck out
only twice and those were both by Carlos Korea. And

(01:53:28):
I even mentioned it on Twitter at Dan Matthews hou
one tea in Matthews, if you're so kind, Jacob Melton's
walk that he had there in the second inning, that
allows for those two runs that were able to win
am in.

Speaker 7 (01:53:39):
Well, what do they have last night? One night? Late discipline,
hitting balls that they could drive. They didn't miss many
when the ball was that chance, you hit it out
of the ballpark. When you're at the ballpark and you're
a young player who has played really good defense but
may have struggled at the plate, you draw a walk,
that's played discipline. So if you if you perform like
last night and you only got the last to go

(01:54:00):
on from last night, Yes, but the history of the
season says they've been up and down like the dal
Jones in the past. It's boom boom, boom boom. Yeah.
But will Sanchez go five for five tonight? Doubtful? But
can he get two hitch maybe maybe he starts to
Maybe it just that was the light switch. But yeah,
you saw a different team last night. At the plate,
a team that we're used to seeing that we've seen

(01:54:22):
times this year. So it's not just the one night.
Now here's the key. The judgment comes easier. Can you
come back the next day and pound out ten, twelve
to fifteen more hits, score seven or eight runs and say, okay,
now this looks like it because you know how that
momentum goes or that confidence should I say once you
get going? Like I said, I'm a game I'm not
an in game I'm an in game momentum guy, not

(01:54:43):
a game to game confidence. I'm a game to game guy.
And last night gave him. This is a talented team,
and last night showed you why Dana Brown believes that
they are going to explode when jord On Alvarez gets back.
Let's hope he's right.

Speaker 8 (01:54:57):
Absolutely, someone three, two and two five the number to
get in. Biscuit, Louis and Jason see you guys right there,
will work you in. Also to continue to talk something
that we mentioned earlier this hour about the Astros two
game lead on the Mariners and what that spells for
the rest of the way. We will talk that right here.
It is the Sean Salisbury Show on a Friday Sports

(01:55:17):
Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 7 (01:55:19):
Well, I like my coffee, Guys like I like, well,
Spindle Tap tastes really good. Spindle Tap coffee. You know
it's Spindle Tap Brewery. But they also have what I
would consider is good, if not the best coffee I've
had anywhere. You got that too. That's a little sidebar,
but it's big and they are committed to making you
great coffee. So why not when you go to Spindle

(01:55:42):
Tap Brewery and my partnership with them is awesome. And
Brody Chapman and his guys, whether it's the beer Master,
whether it's the mock tails. They have no alcohol, no sugar,
but little Delta nine in there'll when you're going to
bed at nine that shoulders hurt and you want to
relax boom or you send watching your assholes. Not a
bad gig. Obviously, drink responsibly and do it all responsibly.

(01:56:03):
But get to the brewery. They've added another bigger beer hole.
Or you can throw your parties there, you can have
your sales functions there, you can go out and play
pickleball and then have yourself a cold beer, whether it's
a local beer, a double ipa, a single IPA, whether
it's a Mexican beer, whatever it is that you want,
they got constantly get. You know, you get the Houston Hustle.

(01:56:25):
There's some great branded beers, but there's also some great
seasonal ones. We're heading into the fall, and I assure
you you'll see some new beers coming out this fall
and some of the old favorites that well make them
the best beer and best brewery here and anywhere in
the country. While it may not be the biggest real
estate brewery in the country, big doesn't always mean better.
Smaller may mean a little bit better. I feel like

(01:56:46):
it's boutique, but there's plenty of space to go play
with the ball, have a big old party, go indoor, outdoor,
the great food, everything that you want in a brewery.
Let's put it this way. Is there private parties, social
functions like food. When you go taste it, you want
to make sure when they pour you that cold beer,
you get it in the can, get it out of tap,
that it is exactly what you want. And then some

(01:57:09):
spindle tap brewery is it spindle Tap beer? And then
grab a couple a couple of bags that coffee on
your way out, go home and take it home and
come back and tell me what you think about the
coffee as well. I am so grateful to be affiliated
with what I consider the best brewery, the best people,
and the best beer in this city. And it's right

(01:57:29):
there at Spindle Tap Brewery. It is spindle Tap dot com.
You need it delivered to your door, bingo, that's no problem.
We'll get out there and see the facility. But if
you want the beer, you know where to find it.
Spindle Tap dot com, Spindle Tap Brewery, Go check out.

(01:57:51):
Show continues, Kansas. This is the underrated quarterback matchup, dude,
it is. It is good to your desk, right Avery
Johnson and in dublinkay tilted pint. What are we waiting on?
Let's go? What eleven o'clock our time? I think so
college game day, dude. I've already started to prime the

(01:58:13):
outside ready to roll. Come on Son? Now you are you?
Are you not feeling hey well because your LSU is
not playing or you're Georgia.

Speaker 4 (01:58:23):
It's happening.

Speaker 8 (01:58:24):
No, it's I'll probably be making the breakfast tacos everything
to settle in watch the game.

Speaker 7 (01:58:29):
Dan three, that I gotta I'm trying to deviate from
talking about my USC Trojans because man, we haven't played
defense since the turn of the century. No, well it's
been a minute. Man, we gotta we gotta play some defense.
So I hate the fact that every time I come on,
I gotta talk. We had George is great, LSU is great,
Michigan's great, Ohio State's great, Texas is great, Texas A
and M's on the rise US season and we get

(01:58:51):
to USC, oh they can score, We can score. Uh. Well,
problem is Dan and I and Gordie and three of
our callers, uh and Sheena can score on USC's defense
or starting a lot of freshmen Dan. So hopefully we
can get into that thing and and our defense will
be better. If they are, they'll be competitive, which will
be good. But I can't wait till tomorrow. It kicks

(01:59:11):
off what is great. And remember next week, I believe
it is Lee Corso. That's next week, Yeah, the Ohio
State next week Lee Corso's final college game day, and
they'll be tears shed all over the place. It'll be awesome.
So this is the start of a great twenty twenty
five for.

Speaker 8 (01:59:27):
Sure, looking forward to it. And we can smell it,
we can feel it, all of those things. College football
about to get going. Someone three two one, two five
seven ninety Biscuit wants to close out at the eight
o'clock hour.

Speaker 4 (01:59:38):
What's going on, Biscuit?

Speaker 18 (01:59:40):
Hey, what's my brothers living for a week?

Speaker 7 (01:59:45):
Hell yeah, Sean, Sean will reprise it for me so
I'll know it. Yeah, I mean, I gotta walk it
through like I Hey, Biscuit, I gotta walk him through
like I'm Quincy Jones and he's some kid trying to
learn music.

Speaker 4 (02:00:01):
You know, ridiculous, you learned something new every day.

Speaker 9 (02:00:06):
Yeah, it was a side you guys talking about play discipline, man.
And when you said that, man, it just.

Speaker 18 (02:00:13):
Immediately my mind went shining to Tony Gwynn and Barry Bonds. Man,
And that's the thing about hitting, man, And don't swing
at balls, you know, make him throw strikes and you
got a good.

Speaker 9 (02:00:27):
Chance hitting the ball. That's as simple as that, Bonds.
That The thing about Bonds wasn't that you know all
that other stuff. No, Mon's didn't swinging balls, man. You
know what I'm saying. You had to throw the ball
over the plate. That Man would get Man show how
many walks did Bonds and man, Bonds would get like,
I ain't even talking about the intentional just playing Waltz man.

(02:00:49):
You have to throw the ball over the plate.

Speaker 7 (02:00:51):
Seasons at that one year when it was it might
have been either when he broke the home run record
or before, but one year, if I'm not mistaken, he
had over one hundred intentional walks right now, I want
you to think about that for a second. He had
like two hundred and twelve or two hundred and fifteen walks.
I'm pretty sure it was over two hundred walks that year,
but I believe Yado and I don't know if I'll

(02:01:12):
google it or Dan if you can't, I think he
had over one hundred or more intentional walks. Now, but
you missed it, right I'll go back to Biscuit and
I want you to finish your thing, but I'll go
back to watching Tom Needing Fewer and the Dodgers pitching
in an epic. But you guys can google that or
YouTube that and you'll see it against Bonds when he
kept throwing him and Bonds would file it off, fout

(02:01:34):
off and need and Fewer missed on a fastball by
about a half an inch and Bonds deposited into the seats.
He did not if it was just outside the black.
That guy's plate, his eye at the plate. We talk
about Bregman's who's got a great eye and understands the
strike zone. I'm not sure anybody understood it more than
the two names you did. I mean, Wade Box is

(02:01:56):
pretty good each he rode but ted Williams, but Bonds
and Gwynn in our times in watching those two, the
one with a singles hitter and one who is great
discipline and hit the ball whenever he wanted to, they
did not swing at a pitcher's pitch. They swang at.
They were swinging. Swing swang, swung at the pitch that
they could hit. And they were able to lay off

(02:02:16):
and have that ability to stop their swing in the
middle and not not not wave at bad pitches. You
are one n correct brother.

Speaker 18 (02:02:25):
And and Sean watched it and then watching the game
yesterday we talked about it.

Speaker 9 (02:02:29):
Man and at the opportunity.

Speaker 18 (02:02:32):
Of the baseball guys said it for a Spider, even
though he didn't move in back in the lineup like I.

Speaker 9 (02:02:37):
Thought he should.

Speaker 18 (02:02:38):
Career comes up, two men on base, two out up
the middle to unscore. As simple as that it did,
I think, And then the season is gonna come down
to me and we see our rhythms coming back. But
Walker and Das seem I don't know what the record is.

(02:03:00):
Say like, when Walker he is have RBIs they win
and when they don't, they got a good chance to lose.
The many those two guys, they need them to come
through with people on base.

Speaker 7 (02:03:13):
Simple think that's a good that'll be a great thing
to chart these last thirty four games. Biscuit and I
may keep a running because there's certain stats that I like,
and now that you brought it up, I'm gonna keep
an eye on it because obviously there's that validity in
that we know what Jordon's about, but it's a couple
of the other guys that are gonna have to have
to support him along this right and give him some help.

(02:03:34):
We know the caraze now two days, but in the
middle of that lineup power bats, I'm anxious to see.
And then the last thirty four games, what the record
is when either or both driving a run. That's a
great point. It'd be worth watching, Biscuit. Great stuff enjoy
this first college football weekend too. My man, we appreciate you.

Speaker 8 (02:03:50):
I'm sure somebody will text me with that info or
tweet at us, either of those things, so we'll definitely
have that. But I do want to talk about those
guys in this lineup as a whole, and we can
do that nine o'clock couur. Also see Roger Luis right there.
You want to join them seb one three, two one

Hey guys. On a recent podcast, the well respected business
leaders said the best companies are ones that solve problems
in the market. Well, consider this new vehicle transaction prices
hover around forty eight thousand dollars. That's double where they
were in twenty tenfordability is a problem, and with talks
of tariffs and other noise, customers are looking for a solution,
and that solution is affordable monthly payment. Some banks have

(02:04:34):
dealt with this by extending financing turns out to eighty
four and even ninety six months. In fact, over twenty
percent of auto loans today are seven years long. It's
not a mortgage folks. This is why more clients are
considering leasing than any other time in recent history. And
DNM Leasing is the nation's leasing leader with fifty thousand
satisfied clients on the road today. With forty nine years

(02:04:54):
in the business, we have experts that specialize in YEP
solving the high payment problem.

Speaker 4 (02:04:58):
With easy lease. That's easy lease with.

Speaker 7 (02:05:01):
No money down, payments significantly lower than buying and terms
that make sense. Why wouldn't you call DM leasing the
main thing. They'll visit them online, You'll get the information
you need. It's dmauto Leasing dot Com. That's dmauto Leasing
dot Com. You can also call them at seven one

Speaker 8 (02:06:13):
Jy Zous Sanchez five hits out of him at five
appearances at the plates, Jordan Alvarez three for four, a
couple of doubles and RBI from one of those a
single as well for the Corpus, Christy Hooks and the
Texans and Lion's gonna play their final preseason game tomorrow
in Detroit, Shawn. Before we get back out to the
phone lines, Roger Luis, see you all right there?

Speaker 4 (02:06:34):
You want to join them?

Speaker 8 (02:06:35):
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety to
biscuits point there of needing those two guys that, frankly
I've hammered on a few times this year, I think
we can agree on that.

Speaker 4 (02:06:47):
Christian Walker and Jiner diaz U.

Speaker 8 (02:06:50):
You know that I do the head and home video
every single day, and just kind of yesterday asking the
same thing about Dana Brown's belief and hey, this lineup's
gonna break through, and I was like, based off what
you're striking out a ton, you're not really putting a
ton of hard contact on the baseball. You're not really
putting a ton of baseballs in play. And then I
also said, it's not like you can count on Christian

(02:07:11):
Walker going ten for twenty one in a stretch right here,
but boy would it be nice. But I get back
to the top of the order, guys. I mean we
talked about it yesterday or today. Excuse me of the
situational two run single that Carlos Korea had last night.

Speaker 4 (02:07:27):
Huge need that, absolutely need to have that.

Speaker 8 (02:07:30):
Jeremy Pania a rough night for him and same Neo,
a same deal for jose Al two vel Twove by
the way, in the throes of a four for thirty six.
But we've seen jose Al Twove go through slumps before
the ALCS twenty twenty two. He did not hit the
ball well, you were still able to win. Why Jeremy
Pania was a guy that got things going.

Speaker 7 (02:07:51):
There's no question the top of the lineup table setters
or getting clutch hits like created last night, but with
Pania and al Tuove at the top. But also to
biscuit point, even when they struggle, if you get boppers
that drive in runs, you'll win. Even we love small
win clutch hits. There's no doubt when I say when
they'll win that you have to have the guys. The

(02:08:14):
question is what's more important the three, four, five guys
or the table says one. They're all important. We know
that it's not taken away. But even last night when
the top struggles, if you can, you know, carve out
a single, carve out a walk, and those guys drive
the baseball, and you add yord on to it. Put
it this way, when all is said and done, this year,
when they get to the playoffs and these last thirty

(02:08:36):
plus games, and if we're sitting here saying, man, what
a great time for Walker and Diaz and Jordon Alvarez.
They came through with a really really phenomenal three four,
five or you know, whether they're hitting the five, four
or six old that area. When those guys they are
those supposed power bats. If they if they go on
a run of playing with power, that doesn't mean the

(02:08:59):
other guy hit one ninety seven. I'm just talking about
add to it because right now, what's going to be
easier to sustain for them, even though play is that
they haven't been a team this year that's at the
top of the home run category. So this year says,
you know, hit me a gap or get a single,
get me a home run. You know, Paradus was hitting
the ball out of the ballpark no longer have him,

(02:09:19):
so while you can stay in it, but they'll have
a better chances. Obviously, Danny's even had mentioned playing small well,
getting a hit, drawing a walk, moving a guy over,
driving in two runs when a guy's on second third
will be important. But I can tell you this, if
they do that but don't have power, they're going to struggle.
You're gonna have to have Like last night, you'd carve
out twelve hits. But what are we talking about today?

(02:09:40):
While there was struggle at the top of the order,
what about the big guys in the middle of the
order there you know, where wherever they When you say
middle of the or i'm talking about the power bats.
When I say that Jin or d is a Christian walker,
both homer So it's gonna matter both ways. Now, if
they really want to dominate, get those guys table set
and get it hot, and then the big bats are
hitting the ball out of the ballpark. So but once again,

(02:10:02):
run production is what you're begging for. While this team
may not be able to sustain power bats this year,
it sure would be nice if for thirty plus games
they could and heading into the playoffs and last night
was indicative of what they're capable of. The question is
how often can they bring that to the table here
as you're into the sprint run of your baseball season.

Speaker 8 (02:10:22):
Yeah, it is worth noting too that the seven runs
they scored last night was their total they had had
for about a week heading into that. And you guys
had also when Biscuit called, had mentioned Barry Bonds, and
you said, over one hundred intentional passes that happened in
two thousand and four. He had one hundred and twenty
of them six hundred and eighty eight during his career. Now,
the Astros don't have Barry Bonds. Frankly, really nobody has

(02:10:44):
Barry Bonds, because I don't think I should still be
a Hall of Famer, But I mean, just talking about
somebody who's feared at the plates, it's nice to have.

Speaker 7 (02:10:53):
That guy, it sure is. Well, your answer to that,
if you're the Astros, is the guy that's on his way. Now,
he's not Verry Bonds by any stretch of the imagination,
but he can go on Barry Bonds like streaks because
in truth, when Jordan Jordon has never been described by

(02:11:13):
those in baseball who know it as oh, he's a
Now he's been described as it, but that's not how
you look at him when you hear experts talk, or
whether it's John Smoltz as a pitcher or guys who
understand it, he's not described as, oh, man, what a
great power, her prodigious power. Yes, of course, cape Buller
hitting forty five or fifty every year, but he's he's

(02:11:34):
described as a hitter. The guy has a pretty damn
solid good plate. When he's going good, he doesn't wave
at bad pitches. He drives the ball out to left field.
He pulls one when you try to pound him inside
and he gets his hands at boom and that he
barrels it up and hits the ball into the upper tank.
That's who he is. So our version here of Barry

(02:11:54):
bonds when he's going right and he gets on that
oh my gosh, for a month. Did you see what
he did in a month of September. That's who Jordan is.
And quite frankly, that's what they're counting on. And if
that's the case, and then you start to see guys
getting other guys seeing pitches, then that'll be great for
the dias the and the Christian Walker's is exactly what

(02:12:17):
Dana Brown on Wednesday's talking about how that is going
to affect everybody. And we've talked about a guy like that.
It's just like a pass rusher. While there's ten other
dudes on the field when you go play TJ. Watt
or Michaeh Parsons or Miles Garrett. While the other ten
guys are important, our whole focus and putting a game
plan is how do we deal with him? Well, there

(02:12:40):
is a how do we attack coverage? But how do
we deal with him? We're not worried about the other
ten guys wrecking the game. They're not going to wreck
the game as long as we play smart. Even if
we play smart, the guy who can wreck the game
happens to be lining up on the outside on the edge,
and he's he's a you know, a stretched nine guy
who's a wide nine player, or he just comes and
disrupts the game. So our focus is always on that

(02:13:02):
one player who can change the entire course of a game.
Jordan Alvarez is that guy. Otani, he's that guy. Some
teams have more than one of them. Unfortunately this team does.
Now two Bay can be streaky and go but I'm
down about where you're you miss and you're afraid that
he hits three home runs in a game. If you
pitch him away, he's driving them all the other way
hit and hitting three singles in a game. Jordon Alvarez

(02:13:23):
isn't just a power hitter. Jordan Alvarez is a real
big time hitter who happens to have prodigious power. And
if he brings that to the table. You saw yesterday
a couple hard singles that hitting the wall out right field.
I mean, so you're looking at a guy who can
do this and hopefully it'll permeate through the lineup in
his effect. But right now, when he gets back, I

(02:13:43):
assure you that every team's pitcher is not saying, well, man,
how am I going to pitch to Christian Walker? Not
that he can't beat you, but you're going to go
into a game plan and you're pitching staff and you're
pitching coach. You're going to say, wouldever you do be
smart to this guy. You can't let this guy if
we're gonna get beat, make somebody else wreck it. Make
the number two pass rusher wrec the game, not Miles Garrett,

(02:14:06):
and make make Korea wreck the game even though he
can and he's been in a play of or make
Christian Walk erect the game. Don't let that guy do it,
because if he does, everything else is going to fall
into place.

Speaker 8 (02:14:17):
Well, And the other thing about jord On too is
I keep hearing people injury prone. He played one hundred
and forty seven games last year, so you only played
one hundred and sixty one.

Speaker 4 (02:14:25):
Do the math. He only missed fourteen.

Speaker 7 (02:14:27):
We've played one hundred and sixty two, usually not one
hundred and sixty one, but.

Speaker 8 (02:14:30):
Who's counting, right, Yeah, I mean, aside from his second
season in the league, where you only played sixty games
and he had the torn ACL, he's been pretty reliable
for you throughout his career one hundred and forty four
one hundred and thirty five hundred and fourteen games in
addition to last year, the career most that he had played.
So Jordon, when he's able to play and doesn't have

(02:14:52):
significant injury, he usually posts for you. And I mean
at least for the rest of the way this year
probably only going to be as a DH even though
it does sound like from stories we've been told Sean
that he tries his best to tell Joe, hey, you
know the metrics show I'm pretty good out there in
left field, and Joe says, no, no, we need you healthy,
we need that bat in the lineup. We're keeping you

(02:15:13):
as the DH. Sorry, Bub, I'll be honest with you.

Speaker 7 (02:15:15):
Guess what I got. A guy who went five for
five last night could play left field. Okay, guess what.
As much as he yes, and Jordan's a very he
is a he can hold his own in left field.
But I got news for you, this injury that we're
going through with him. At no time have I said
I can't wait till he gets back to play left field.
What I have said is I can't wait till he

(02:15:36):
gets back and just walks out the out of the
batter's box to the plate to see, oh well the
pitcher starts to yurinate down his leg, especially if he's
going good. I can't miss this guy. And Dana said it.
You don't want to be the team or the pitcher
that happens to get this team on that day or
that player on that day. When when he when when

(02:15:58):
it's him, when when that guy his head, because then
all hell breaks loose. So you absolutely this is. I'm
not yearning for Jordan Alvarez's glove is as good as
he can be for a big fellow playing left field,
and he is. You can go out there. He's better
than serviceable. He's not gonna win many Gold Gloves, but
he's better than serviceable. Add no time through this if

(02:16:18):
I ever yearned for his glove, but I am begging
for his bat because I want to see not only
the impact on the other players, but I want to
see just what the rest for his lower half and
hopefully a fully healed upper half, what it's going to do.
And he's got to be hungry, and I hope he's
pissed as it gets because he missed this much baseball,
and I hope he punishes opposing pitchers because if he does,

(02:16:40):
it will have a phenomenal effect on the rest of
the league for the Astros, and obviously, with only two
games in front, it could have an effect on what
they're doing the last two weeks of the season as
far as getting their legs underneath them and having a
little leeway to be able to do that.

Speaker 8 (02:16:56):
Like I've said, Lengthen's the lineup, and this lineup definitely
needs some length Louise Rogers, see you guys right there?

Speaker 4 (02:17:02):
You want to join them?

Speaker 8 (02:17:03):
seOne three two one two five seven ninety against seven
one three two one two five seven ninety. As we
continue to roll along here Sean Salisbury Show Sports Talk
seven ninety.

Speaker 7 (02:17:15):
The Jean Salisbury Show continues.

Speaker 8 (02:17:18):
Run through some of you on the phone lines right now.
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety. Let's
get it started here in this segment with Louis and
Katie Luis, Good morning.

Speaker 13 (02:17:28):
Goo, Good morning guys.

Speaker 7 (02:17:29):
How you doing?

Speaker 4 (02:17:29):
Can you hear me perfectly?

Speaker 7 (02:17:31):
Man?

Speaker 13 (02:17:32):
Okay?

Speaker 20 (02:17:33):
Yes, My My opponent would be with I think he's
I think, I think again is the metrics. I think
the Astros because of the play in the field that
we play, everybody's trying to pull and looking for a
home run. I'm gonna put example for example is a
great heater. He's from Venezuela, so he used to play
with broom six and I'm bottle caps over there, so

(02:17:54):
he can hit any kind of ball.

Speaker 15 (02:17:56):
But what I can see.

Speaker 20 (02:17:58):
I'm seeing with him right now is that with rides
and stride, instead of he trying to hit the ball,
is still trying to be a big swing and looking
for a home run. Same thing with Walker, I mean
big swings and two strikes. Same thing with this see.
I mean we need these guys to understand maybe a
double could work or a single could work.

Speaker 7 (02:18:18):
And not have everybody to do that.

Speaker 20 (02:18:20):
When when I'm gonna comes back, I hopefully he doesn't
have to have the pressure that he has to hit
a home run every time to stay on the plate.
I would love to him to hit a double, find
somebody on base, and bring it home and then don't
have him to have the pressure to hit a home
run every time he puts the place and in his plate.
For example Korea, yesterday he went to center field a

(02:18:43):
couple of times and he drows and runs.

Speaker 15 (02:18:46):
He got on base, he can still try to.

Speaker 20 (02:18:48):
Hit a home run, but he hit very very good yesterday.
My other point, and I'm gonna let you guys go
and know there's all the guys wedding. Is any child
that we can have one of the starting pitchers and
throwing to the to the bullpen. I know this is crazy,
but Jamier used to be the bullpen and have here.
I know this is very important to the starting peacher.
But we also without a hater we need, we need

(02:19:10):
back up with the bullpen. So I don't know, this
is crazy, but maybe one of these starting peaches good
could could be useful in the wool pit. All right, guys, Marlin,
you go give very much racial.

Speaker 7 (02:19:21):
You're gonna thank you. By the great point, you're gonna
get your wish. I love it, he said, how too
with broomsticks. It's the truth is you're gonna get your
wish in that bullpen. You're you're good because when now,
depending on Garcia's velocity, and if you get him back,
whether it's him or McCullers, you're you're one of those guys.
If you get them all healthy or JP Frantz, whoever,

(02:19:43):
when they get back in time, there's not gonna be
enough room for all of them to start, So one
of them is going to end up in the bullpen
at least.

Speaker 4 (02:19:49):
Well, I mean, and also to preserve some guys.

Speaker 8 (02:19:53):
I mean, maybe you get to a point where, if
you do clinch the division, you can skip a start
and maybe inning or two out of Hunter Brown or
out of fromber Valdez. Now that's a long way off,
but I mean, we saw them do it last year
with Renelle Blanco.

Speaker 7 (02:20:08):
They're gonna see Hunter Brown in the bullpen. Is if
it's as if he hasn't pitched and it's all hands
on deck and the divisions tied and it's the last
game of the season or in the postseason. You know
he's pitched and he's got to come back, and you
know we need you can you can you give us
an inning late because we're we need this win. You're
not gonna see him, but mccullars or Garcia or a start,

(02:20:28):
you will. You will see that, and that that that's
part of what we were saying, Dan about getting trying
to extend a lead. So you have the ability to
do that. To miss a start right now, you can't.
You can't skip anybody start. You can't. They can't afford
to skip a start for a player, for a start,
for Brown or for Fromber or for even Jason Alexander.
You cannot afford to skip a start. Now you get

(02:20:51):
a five game lead and there's two weeks to go,
and you're saying, you know what, we're in pretty good
position here, all right, Hunter Brown, We're gonna we're gonna
move you back, skip a start, get your legs underneath
the or from whoever it is, for mental or you know,
physical reasons whatever, just to give you a break. Right.
They don't have time to do that now, they can't.
Two games is not enough, that's one series. So they will,

(02:21:12):
but he will get his wish because right now, if
everybody comes back healthy and we got him for fifteen
or twenty games and you get you know, whoever it is,
whether it's Garcia or whether it's mccolors, and they're back
in this mix, somebody's going with the bullpen this starter.
They just are and that's okay.

Speaker 8 (02:21:30):
Well, and talking about Christian Walker, you know that his
lowest eggsit velocity last night was ninety five point five.
I mean two hits to show for it, but it's
one hundred and five one hundred and point nine and
one hundred and two point nine and fourteen swings last night,
Sean one missed.

Speaker 7 (02:21:47):
He has a reputation coming here and part of the
reason they brought him here. He's always had the reputation
for hitting the ball hard, always and even when he struggled,
like you said, if you exit a hard felt ball,
he's always hit the ball pretty damn hard. That's just
that's just been part of his I mean he's got
he's got explosion in that bat he does, and he's

(02:22:09):
I mean, he's got good lower half torque, the whole thing.
So the ball to his ex velocity, it comes, he hits.
Just a problem of making sure you're putting it in
play more often. There is no care. I never have
a problem with how hard Christian Walker hits the ball,
never half. He's had that rolling through him for a
long time, and that's part of the reason they paid him,
brought him here. Expectations plus, you need first base and

(02:22:32):
got to get that thing going, and somebody that that's
been a position of since YULEI left of like, can
we get production there? Hopefully that production, consistent production happens.
But hitting the ball hard is not gonna be a problem.
He's gonna live in the in the in the hundred
plus range most of the time.

Speaker 4 (02:22:47):
Let's go with Roger. Roger wants to wag in.

Speaker 17 (02:22:48):
Good morning, Roger, Yeah, good morning, fellars, good stuff, good stuff. Now,
I just want to say, and I been a heck
of a party they do last night, especially with Sanchez man.
Uh you know, also, TV lived his whole baseball career
without going five for five and this joker just gets
up after going over twenty whatever and then just goes

(02:23:11):
five for five like it wasn't nothing. That's crazy how
baseball works, right, It's just it's unbelievable. But you know, uh,
one thing about one thing about Sanchez is he took
that smile off his face, you know, before he started batting.
So maybe uh maybe he got a little bit of
focus in him and then changed the changes approach a bit.
But it looked nice and looked calm.

Speaker 7 (02:23:32):
He wasn't.

Speaker 17 (02:23:33):
He was swinging off the back foot as soon as
the ball was released.

Speaker 7 (02:23:37):
He looked.

Speaker 17 (02:23:37):
It looked better. It looked like better. Maybe somebody was
working with him. And as far as uh, you know,
exit vlow, you know, I got to give Dusty as
flowers man, he re ain't worried about exit Villa. We're
worried about exit hits. So yeah, that's.

Speaker 7 (02:23:54):
Hillo beads right, Roger, I take I take.

Speaker 17 (02:23:57):
Run on second and third of the Dying Quill any day.
Uh so uh yeah, I just I just want to
see more of this man. Maybe they can just conturn
into something man. And yeah, well you weren't on coming
back top wasting those that bats over there, Corpora, fellas,
man bring him back over here. He's all so long
as over here we need that bat, no matter, just
for the intimidation factor alone. It'll it'll, it'll make it, it'll

(02:24:19):
make it, improve it. Man, all right, fellas, have a
great weekend. I'm gonna go see if I can get
to get a golf game in.

Speaker 7 (02:24:25):
I got because they get it in before it rains. Brother,
Lift clean in place, my man, lift clean in place
on the golf course. I'm gonna up, Roger, Roger, he's
right though, You're right, man. Velo's great as long as
it's hitting grass or hitting seats right fair. And it's
a good one. And is amazing how quickly the sky

(02:24:46):
stops falling after one big night, isn't it awesome? Think
about oh gosh, and you know you still hold true?
Are they good enough to sustain it at the plate
and all that? But they are talented and nobody's ever
questioned that, and their resilience has been through the roof
for a decade now. But we're worried about this year.
And he's exactly right that the intimidations for yord On.

(02:25:06):
Very great call by Roger. Our callers are spot on,
and you know, to continue this and get rolling and
have that's going to be really really important. But last
night kind of takes you where you wake up, so
I say, oh man, we're back at it. And when
you pound out those kind hits and it looked right.
The optics were there, but also the production was too,
and that gives you hope that when the big fellow
comes back, it's always nice to have a shot at

(02:25:28):
B twelve times ten getting back into your lineup, and
that's what he provides.

Speaker 8 (02:25:32):
Yeah, that triple espresso anything, the mood boosters are there.
It's the serotonin boost Sean. That's what the astros are
hoping for. And you'd love to see forty four go
back into that clubhouse here sooner rather than later. Kevin John,
see you guys right there, Get you guys involved. Do
you want to carry over that thought though on yord
On because we touched on a little bit earlier, Sean,

(02:25:53):
and we can continue it here on a Friday, Sean
Salisbury Show, Sports Talk seven.

Speaker 7 (02:25:58):

Speaker 4 (02:27:41):
And the Seawan Salisbury Show continues.

Speaker 7 (02:27:46):
The guys on a downhill lie yesterday with a shot
to the green with an iron in his hand, I
mean an extreme downhill lie on the in a fair
way and he hits a golf on there a picture,
But I was watching it live, which I you know me,
I don't miss much of this. For four straight days,
I'm damn You're watching every single swing the guy, and

(02:28:08):
you look from behind he swings, and what it's like.
You know how the finish of a picture off the
rubber where he puts his foot on finishes and the
right leg comes up and he's trying to square up.
In cases a bout where the right leg's up and
he's finishing his follow through. That was Scheffler with a
golf club in his hand, right leg completely off the ground,
off balance because his footwork is well, he doesn't have
great footwork, but it doesn't matter. You know, golf, everybody,

(02:28:30):
we'll all say, teaching the position of quarterback or golf,
the lower footwork so important. Well, Scheffler just makes you say,
oh is it? Yeah? Right, but he's Scotty Scheffler. Well
he looks he's almost falling over to his left and
he was disappointed. But the ball still hit the green.
You get my point this right now, This dude can

(02:28:51):
knock it from two hundred yards into a coffee can
with any club in his bag. Russell Handley's a good player.
You know. The one through thirty winner gets ten million.
You know what the last place guy gets thirty five?
Three thirty five or three fifty five. If you finish
in thirty, that's what you're taking home money wise. If
you finish in last place thirtieth this week, thirtieth, I mean,
you're one of the top thirty players of the year,

(02:29:12):
but thirtieth place gets three hundred year between three forty
and four hundred grand. I think it's three to fifty five.
That's last place. But yeah, Scheffler at minus seven did
plays best. And I don't know. I'm watching it looking
at it right now, and I don't know if they're
a lift cleaning place today because the weather's been crazy,
but soft greens they are. I just saw Colin Morikal
put a t in the ground. They're playing lyft cleaning place.

(02:29:33):
So they get to put their ball in the hand
and dry it off and put it back down. Get
them perfect lie. If this is the way it is
all four rounds, the scores are going to be in
the twenties, which is not supposed to happen at this
golf course. But the reason why they get to clean
the ball and lay it down, given those guys lift
cleaning place is like having you and I stand over
a six inch putt okay with your I mean that's

(02:29:53):
how good they are. So it's going to be fun
to watch, and there's a real The biggest shock of
the tournament right now is that Scotty Scheffler's on the
first page of lead board. Can't believe it and it
is foreign to him.

Speaker 4 (02:30:03):
Right, yeah, exactly.

Speaker 13 (02:30:05):
See.

Speaker 8 (02:30:05):
You know what a what a struggle that guy has
had this year. Yeah, but he sucks. Yeah yeah, No,
it's there was.

Speaker 7 (02:30:11):
Where she was wish you could wish he could hit
the golf ball straight.

Speaker 13 (02:30:14):
Yea.

Speaker 8 (02:30:14):
I was going to say the results prove it, but
the result was good last night for the Astros and
waiting and seeing on Jordan Alvarez. But I know that
some of you want to weigh in someone three two, one, two,
five seven ninety Katie or Kevin and Katie.

Speaker 4 (02:30:29):
Sorry, hamster off the wheel, Kevin, what's up?

Speaker 15 (02:30:32):
Well?

Speaker 21 (02:30:33):
I was calling to talk about this mccullors start today
because there last couple of outings have not been good
and we have blue ball and Triple A has had
one run five inning games. So explain to me why
he's Spider went, mccullors, just get a blue ball. I'll
hang up and listen.

Speaker 8 (02:30:52):
Thanks man, I appreciate it Well, I mean simply because
you're paying one guy seventeen million a year to pitch
and you're paying the other guy I don't know the
league minimum, and he's got plenty of options. That's a
good answer and a short answer, right there, Sean Dan.

Speaker 7 (02:31:07):
I also think, you know, like I had mentioned earlier,
I mean, the guy's been out with a blister for
a while. We finally, you know, finally get a chance
to see him again. And this is important because I
also think, Dan, I do don't you think you've got
to find out what he's got? Yeah? You do, don't
we got to find out? Yeah? Well, you're one hundred
percent correct. And listen, is as good as blue Ball

(02:31:29):
has had his moments and his last you know, pitching
appearance here was really good. But mccullors is you know
when he went out to the mound meaning blue Ball.
But listen, this guy's been through it and you're paying
him and you got to find you got to figure
out what he I mean, who he is now. The
last few starts have not been good for him, and
he's you know, an opportunity to show But I think

(02:31:49):
he has to post and show up because I think
you're the situation where you've got to find out who
you can trust, and you got to see with mccullors,
they can't leave that kind of money sitting on the
table when it comes to that guy's support to be
able to show up. The blister apparently is finally finally healed.
Now we're going to find out what his stuff looks like.
And I don't have problem with this, but I sure
as hell you've got to see more than you've seen

(02:32:11):
from him. You absolutely have to, and this it's the
right call over blue Ball though it was nice, but
I don't think any of us are sitting as saying, man,
blue Ball is going to change it around and maybe
he'll have an impact. He might, But right now you've
got to see what mccullor's is going to give you
to find out what you can trust moving forward, because
lately it's been very difficult.

Speaker 8 (02:32:29):
Well, the huge if with him is twofold. It's injuries
number one, But the other one is the potential of
the stuff. But the problem with the stuff Sean is
that sometimes he gets himself into trouble with not having
command of said stuff and getting guys on base, and
then once he's.

Speaker 7 (02:32:45):
Been known to walk a few yeah, just say that.

Speaker 8 (02:32:47):
And then also run into a few barrels too, So
I think that's something the Astros are trying to sift
through really quick, real quick. Let's get John on the
northwest side.

Speaker 14 (02:32:56):
Hey guys, just for the record, I mean I called
in a couple weeks ago. I'm really high Blue Bow though.
I really think he's going to be the going to
be part of the future. But I think the Astros
just need to be Yeah, I just need to be uh,
you know close going into September because some of these
arms and everything are coming back.

Speaker 9 (02:33:13):
And I like it.

Speaker 14 (02:33:15):
Uh you know, like when when when this when the
Mariners went uh nine and one and they were real close.
I said, you know, they're coming up with a tough schedule,
and and sure enough they haven't done well either.

Speaker 9 (02:33:27):
So I like it.

Speaker 19 (02:33:29):
I mean, if the Astras are like tied for first
or like really in the fight, I think September looks
really good for us. The other thing is, I'm really
intrigued by this Craig Kimbrel potential signing. You know, he
was a nine time All.

Speaker 9 (02:33:41):
Star and but he and he, I don't know, something
went off the rail.

Speaker 19 (02:33:45):
He had. He struggled last seasy at what a five
point three e r A and uh, but I think
if anybody can figure it out, as the Astros the
Ashers in their pitching coaches.

Speaker 14 (02:33:54):
So I'm very intrigued by that. I think that's that
could be a pretty good move to shore up the
bullpen hopefully. I guess we'll see, But I do like
that around the weigh in on that as well.

Speaker 8 (02:34:06):
No, hey, guys, Yeah, I appreciate John, have a good weekend.
We talked about it earlier, Sean. The VLO has you know,
ticked down for the better part of the last five years.
But the good news is the strikeout rate has not.
If anything, he's kept the strikeout rate up with his
sweeper and his breaking ball that go along with a
fastball that has diminished a little bit.

Speaker 7 (02:34:25):
It has, but they wouldn't sign if they didn't think
there was something there, And you mentioned it, and that
ability to still get strikeouts without pumping at ninety seven
ninety eight miles an hour, and that's okay. So a
good body, a good pitcher, has been damn good over
his career in these type of high leverage situations. In
the last thirty three games or so. There's some leverage

(02:34:46):
that's here and Kimberle, I mean, we know his reputation
to pass. And John's right that if you are going
to get fixed or get right, it's a pretty good
team to get right on. They have pretty good idea
and guys seem to come here and elevate, and it's
an opportunity for kimberl to show he's still got some
game left. And I'm anxious to see how they use him.
It's not going to be at the back end of

(02:35:06):
that bullpen. I would not think maybe he gets one,
but I don't think you're gonna say he's our high
leverage closer in tough situations. But you know what, v
lob Damp throw strikes get people out and don't get
him pitches they can drive, and he's still been able
to do that when it comes to getting strikeouts. We'll
see how it works here, but there's very few teams
in the league that it can fix it quicker or

(02:35:28):
get a guy right more than this organization has been
able to do. For pitchers that come to the mound
and players quite frankly anywhere, they seem to always come
here and do something a little bit better.

Speaker 8 (02:35:38):
Larry and Stafford will get to you. And also are
the Texans in a rock in a hard place? In
between a rock and a hard place? We'll discuss here.
It is a Sean Salisbury show closing it out here
on a Friday Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 7 (02:35:52):

Speaker 2 (02:37:37):
Let the celebration start war Sean Salisbury, It's a Sean
Salisbury show.

Speaker 8 (02:37:44):
My unnamed source, I asked, who I trust this guy
a pretty good amount. Uh, do you think there is
any chance that jord On returns today? Response? Don't think so.
Think even if he traveled today, they would give him
the day off. So who knows. Maybe tomorrow and Sunday
you could try the back then get the off day

(02:38:05):
Monday and get right back into it with the Rockies.

Speaker 7 (02:38:08):
That sounds more logical and fair after last night. I'm
okay with that. Good. But if he's traveling, guess what Dan,
if he's going to meet the team there instead of
wait for him to come home, he's playing this weekend,
you would hope? Yeah, I mean I understand today day off,
you get two and then get Monday off after you
play back to backers hopefully Saturday and Sunday for him,
and then you come back Monday, relax and get back

(02:38:30):
at it. Yeah. How in the world why would you
take him? I know having him there, but if you're
gonna bring why wouldn't you Why why would you take him?

Speaker 13 (02:38:39):
Well?

Speaker 7 (02:38:39):
Would you not having wait here, you want to be
in the baseball atmosphere. My whole thing is it just
feels to me like, yeah, it's it's that's logical, and
I think that's fair and I think it's smart. So
but getting him Saturday and Sunday, I'm all in. All
it took was two games and you saw what you
needed to see. All good. Listen, I'm greedy, but I
understand why they'd get on that plane, relaxed, come in,

(02:39:02):
put that uniform on, We'll enjoy and then we'll light
him up on Saturday. I'm good with that. He gives
us something to look forward to on Saturday when he
gets in the lineup. There'll be a lot of fanfare
and pomp and circumstance surrounding that as well.

Speaker 8 (02:39:15):
Like I said, a sight for sore eyes can't happen
soon enough. Larry and Stafford, Good morning, Larry.

Speaker 13 (02:39:21):
What's going on?

Speaker 15 (02:39:22):
Bulldog? And Sean? Hey, it's Friday, So I just wanted
to chime in and send everybody off with a good
blast for the weekend. Hey, Sean, you know there's a
yin and yang to life, man, and I truly truly
appreciated that when I got dropped off in college. All
I had was a bundle sheet of my clothes that

(02:39:42):
I had wrapped up in a bundle for my twin
bed and my dorm room. I had a Jane Kennedy
and a fair Focet poster and some Sports Illustrated pictures
that I had tore out of the Sports Illustrated magazine
to put on the wall when I was in my
dorm and a black and white TV. Right, my son
asked off at school to day and what these kids

(02:40:04):
are taking into these dorm rooms and how the schools
have like you can't park your car and go up
into the room with them and all this. Hey, man,
I don't think i'd have been able to function under
that kind of stress, man. And I know these mothers
can't because they ass can't let their kids go as
it is. And you telling them they can't go into
dorm rooms with them, Man, that is an accident waiting

(02:40:25):
to happen.

Speaker 7 (02:40:27):
Crazy. The hell with all them, brother, they could have
all the video games and stuff they want. You and
I had Pharaoh fossil posters. Brother, We knew.

Speaker 15 (02:40:36):
What we were signing to get that man, And then
when we saw them girls walking around campus. They made
Sarah look just even a little bit better, man, because
I know I saw some honey dudes over there, man,
But look on this thing that we were talking about
with the assholds real quick. I hope they get Jordan back,
and I hope Danty Brown is right when he said
that if we could just get the big fella back

(02:40:56):
in the lineup, it'll help. But I was really impressed
with Alexander going out there and giving us a big
win yesterday. And what that should do is makes fran
Brass go look in the mirror, because that's how everybody
wanted Framber to go out there and pitch. And then
Alexander go out there and do it the way that
you're supposed to do. And we know they gonna move
some of these boys to the bullpen because they just
don't have enough dudes, enough spots in the rotation. And

(02:41:19):
I think it's gonna be Christian, Javier Lance and probably
uh maybe Alexander that go to the bullpen, or maybe not,
but they gonna have this thing figured out. As long
as we can stay where we at or close enough
when we get into September, it's gonna be fine. I'm
so man, about the texansgain hear the music, Yeah, I
got I got you, I hear it. Hey, they gave

(02:41:40):
them Detroit Lions to fit up there yesterday and them
lines gave it to him back. I told you it's
just to precurse them. Man to the super.

Speaker 7 (02:41:46):
Bowl and I'll holler, there you go. So he fights
galore with those two. I meaning not literally, but the
full seasons of fish fight. Can't wait for Man. Great stuff,
Larry and you guys have a great weekend. Man awesome.

Speaker 4 (02:41:58):
Yes to you, buddy, Seen to you as well.

Speaker 8 (02:42:00):
Tripley, He's Sean Triple, Emmanuel Elmore, Dan Matthews and Matt
Thomas show with Ross coming up next. We for us
three will talk to you in sixty eight hours right
here on your home of the Astros and the Rockets
Sports Talks seven ninety.

Speaker 4 (02:42:13):
Everybody, have a great weekend.
