Speaker 1 (00:04):
Okay, let's do this.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Shawn Salisbury to usc Troup's longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury, Dan matthewscuse,
this is the Sean Salisbury show.
Speaker 3 (00:23):
Thutter de Parazza who strikes out the first for Garcia
and they are two away. The Coochie delivers and that
is hammer deep to left field.
Speaker 1 (00:31):
And you can't test that one.
Speaker 3 (00:33):
Good bye head of the Landris Crawford boxes for Ramona Reus.
Speaker 1 (00:37):
It's tip home out of the season.
Speaker 4 (00:39):
What nothing Astros now delivers and that's belted into the
corner left field and that's a base in and that's
gonna bang off the wall.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
Payne, you scores easily and they'll throw or no.
Speaker 4 (00:52):
Tagg applying at second base on the throw in.
Speaker 1 (00:55):
RBI double for out to Bay.
Speaker 4 (00:58):
And it's too nothing down the pitch and he hits
this with hard to write center field. That's gonna get
down and that's good to tie the ball game. Who
is once again, what a series he's had. An RBI
single and just like.
Speaker 1 (01:13):
That we're tied.
Speaker 3 (01:15):
First pitch, brown ball up the middle and in the
center of basin. Alvarez chugging around third and coming home.
He'll score without a throw Carlos Carrea comes through with
two outs and the Astros late four to three. Correa
drives in his forty fifth run of the season. Here's
the too two twing and a mess stalking about on
a change up down a fist pump from the catcher
(01:37):
Diaz as the side is retired. Luis Garcia, welcome back.
Six settings of three run ball to two and that
is hammered dead till left failed and you can't kiss
that one.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
Good bob.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
Over the Landrys profit boxes a two run shot for
Jose al Tuo Bay and an eight three lead for
the Astros. Three two again, round ball right at payin.
You shortstop picks it up, straightens up, throws to first
and that is the ballgame.
Speaker 5 (02:09):
Now.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
Houston Astros defeat the Los Angeles Angels today eight to three.
Astros split the four game series with the Angels and
now have a two and a half game lead, a
top of the America League West.
Speaker 6 (02:21):
And a far cry from what we had seen for
much of the weekend from the Astros, bats, and just
the Astros in general. That we say away we go
in good morning here on the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
The band is back together. We are ready to.
Speaker 6 (02:36):
Go as it's not only the Astros splitting over the weekend, Sean.
Now the lead is back up to three, thank you
Tampa Bay. It is also a Texans game week too,
so a lot of that to get into and also
a lot of the college football from over the weekend
to react to. You were in the building for one
(02:56):
of the games happening this weekend. It was not one
of the premier games out there, but still a nice
little trip for you to be able to go see
some college football.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (03:06):
It was with my son, just a little free wedding
thing for him and we got to go there and
with his future in laws and we watched yes See
and had great Thank thanks to my Trojan folks for
the incredible weekend rolled it out for him. It was
nice for my son and his friend is in laws
and me. We had a good time.
Speaker 8 (03:22):
Man.
Speaker 7 (03:23):
Yeah, USC was well, they listen, you're supposed to beat teams.
You're supposed to be by a lot than they did.
Speaker 5 (03:31):
Know.
Speaker 7 (03:31):
It was seventy three to thirteen. The thing that suck
out those their team speed and their perimeter people are
pretty good.
Speaker 5 (03:36):
Man.
Speaker 7 (03:37):
Now they got off the field a bunch of defense
there and you know, scored on defense, but it's Missouri
State and it's different, different league, and so then they
got Georgia Southern and then they go to Purdue and
that'll be your first semitest leads on the road, you know,
West West Lafayette. But it was impressive they and they
got a backup quarterback he just keep an eye on down.
Speaker 1 (03:57):
I mean he started.
Speaker 7 (03:58):
They scored seventy three and they bench there, guys, their
starters were out at halftime. But their team speed depth
wise is pretty impressive. But as a kid named.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
H law Is long.
Speaker 7 (04:10):
Street, Hussan long Street, who was like a five star
kid from Inglewood, California, and he came out. Now, my
Lafe was a good player, but I'm just saying, this
kid's dynamic feet. Dude, it was fun to watch, even
in a blowout. He's really good and he's got a
great football name, you know, but he's a local kid.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
Played well.
Speaker 7 (04:28):
But their offensive score on a lot of people. But
you're not going to know for another three weeks or
a month how defensively how good they are. But it
was so so I see. You know, if they'd have
won twenty one to seven, it had been like Eah,
because my son's in law future in laws. The son
goes to school there and so it was kind of
a treat for him too and my boy.
Speaker 1 (04:49):
But it was h.
Speaker 7 (04:52):
They're pretty impressive offensively, but they always are. And but
you're suppose, you know, if you they'd have been twenty
one seven, I'd be more concerned. But they hung seventy
three on im probably could have scored ninety had they
stayed on it. But no, they'll have more tests, but
there's still a lot of teams in front of them
that are far easier and better to talk about this week.
But it was a great experience. Start my Trojans kicked
(05:13):
ass and that it was fun to see.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
They let you hop up on Traveler. No, there's a
former player.
Speaker 7 (05:19):
I've been close enough and I still have to show
you that picture running along side of Traveler for the
program stuff. So no, no, that Traveler made a lot
of trips around the track this week. Well, we don't
have a track there anymore, but the track used to
be on the outside of the football field, but Traveler
made a bunch of visits on the run as they
hung seventy three.
Speaker 1 (05:38):
So it's impressive.
Speaker 7 (05:39):
But I'm going to tell you something, men, Oklahoma's gonna
be deal with offensively. If my teer keeps playing like
he's playing. I love just around leaven neus Meyer was
clutch when needed and accurate. It's gonna be a hell
of a player. I thought that LSU's defense did a
hell of a job. That was shades of years ago.
Sure was because they's that's a possible first pick of
(06:00):
the draft. They played against this past week and Clubbeck's
a good player, but they sure did everything to make
it out. You go up, Alabama's in trouble. Be the
guy after the guy. I don't know Calen de Boor,
and I thought it was a really good hire. He's
a good coach, but they could they missed their They
they're lazy and that's not a that's not who they are.
(06:21):
So you go around and I mean there's some impressive wins.
You know, Miami had their business they had to take
care of with Notre Dame and this local team here Texas.
I know it didn't turn out right and they're going
to be fine, but there are some concerns. And I saw,
I mean, I thought they were little and we'll get
into it. I thought early on Sark could have been
(06:41):
far more aggressive, and you know, I think he's the
best play caller he and link if I do in
football at least. I mean Dan Lanning's pretty They got
some really good play callers in the country, but the
guy here in Austin's as good as there is. I
felt like they were tread and lightly going into the game,
and I don't think Arch validated as much. This does
not mean he's not going to be a great player.
I'm concerned about his arm angle dude, in simple plays.
(07:04):
He's mechanics. He is going to be a great He
made some phenomenal throws late. I always tell you about
making easy place who I know the work after listen.
You know how I feel about the Mannings. I love him,
but it wouldn't be fair for us to judge everybody
else on their starts to not judge Arch Manning. I
don't think Sark helped him as much early. I think
when they were more aggressive it worked.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
Matt Patricia made.
Speaker 7 (07:24):
It and Matt Patricia took an NFL and they caught
on quickly and did a hell of a job. And
their defense Longhorns defense is good too. But I'm just
telling you those simple throws are and it started out
opening the game when he hit that that little over routed,
little sale route that he missed and left in the
left in the ground, and it was like that. He
(07:44):
made some throws that were really good, but the simple
play he has to make every week in that sec.
Speaker 1 (07:50):
He didn't make enough of them. He just didn't.
Speaker 7 (07:52):
He made some spectacular plays, but and his arm angled. Dude,
I watched it, and I tape that whole game. I'm
going back to break down. When you have an arm
angle that side of slaw, you better be Matt Stafford,
and you better be because if you're living there, accuracy can
become a problem.
Speaker 1 (08:06):
Now it doesn't mean you can't be.
Speaker 7 (08:08):
But under durest you saw there were some accuracy issues
in the game. And it's one it's unfair to him.
It just is he's a manning and nobody's feeling sorry
for the man. But my point is we laced all
without him. With the guy starting one game that was
against a great opponent. He started two gaining I'm talking
about against a great opponent. Really, it's kind of his
first start against great opponent, and there's no doubt it's
(08:31):
his first major test who of us hasn't failed it,
And I got news for you. His job on the
opening day is harder than most of our jobs the
very first day we go to it. Although we may
be panic, that's a hard gig. And you say, well, Sean,
it's not his first day. You're right, but I'm talking
about it's a full time starter, where it's your team
on the road against the team as a top three team.
Speaker 1 (08:49):
It's a tough toll. He'll play better. But part of
the reason.
Speaker 7 (08:55):
They did not win is that the quarterback did not
play as well as he needed to. But their defense
kept a minute, their offense had some of the late
and when they got going the second half, they had
some series where you know they're going to be explosive,
but their inability to make simple plays and simple decisions
hurt them in the game. And you can't do that
against Ohio State. I didn't think they were that overly
(09:16):
explosive offensively either.
Speaker 6 (09:18):
Now neither side necessarily was, but I mean that also
is a testament to both defenses. Texas is really good
on defense though as Ohio State. I mean you mentioned
that it's kind of his first start, because it is
I mean a whole new offensive line.
Speaker 7 (09:33):
A start where you know you weren't going to kick
the other teams out, and you don't have right NFL
left tackle in banks out. There are three others, four
different starters. We didn't people did not focus enough on
four new starters on the offensive line in the SEC. Now,
I know it's a factory at Texas like it is
a lot at Alabama, Georgia at SC you keep getting
great players, but turnover on the offensive line. I've said
(09:55):
it here a million times that the number one continuity
you've got to have isn't quarterback receiver because I know
a curls, a curl of digs a dig. It's more
importantly it's the offensive line continuity and losing four I
don't care if they get seventeen future first round draft
picks in on that campus and offensive line.
Speaker 1 (10:12):
They're still new at it when you get four new starters, and.
Speaker 7 (10:16):
I just thought there was a there was a lack
of aggressiveness all the way around, especially in the passing
game and with Arch's legs.
Speaker 1 (10:23):
I'm talking about design stuff.
Speaker 7 (10:26):
I think if Sark had to do it over again,
I don't question him much because I love him. Think
he's great, but I think that he'd have probably come
out and said, you know what we're getting after it
the first series that came out through it. But I'm
talking about just the mix of his legs and arm
I didn't think there was enough of it. But having
an offensive line like that, four new starters makes it
tough on anybody in Ohio State's no joke.
Speaker 6 (10:46):
Well, I mean, and as I mentioned, I mean the
credit to Matt Patricia and the Ohio State defensive staff
and players, but I almost didn't feel like there was
enough of a commitment to the run. I mean, you
keep hearing about Trey Weisner and these running backs that
Texas has, and then you say, well, wait a minute, Dan,
four new starters on the offensive line. That's usually how
you get a new offensive line going, is saying hey,
(11:09):
when these battles, and then the pass blocking is simple
at that point.
Speaker 9 (11:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (11:14):
And an offensive lineman that I've ever been around, when
you walk off, they know they take great pride and
not want their quarterback hit. But if you ask them, hey, man,
what's the staple of your team, they'll say aggred, wearing
people out, all line run blocking. Yeah, they want to
be they want to body blow you to death as
opposed to one knockout like a pass protection.
Speaker 1 (11:32):
They the good ones want to do that. They want
to live there.
Speaker 7 (11:34):
The next prize you keep your quarterback upright because everybody's well,
so what everybody's watching a.
Speaker 1 (11:39):
Coupny times you get hit? How many times you get hit?
So there's a great pride in that.
Speaker 7 (11:42):
But if you ask them what they think controls a
game and makes their job easier, it's when they are
mauling people in the run game. And I didn't think
that the versatility of the run game was used well enough.
Speaker 1 (11:53):
I just didn't.
Speaker 7 (11:54):
I just I think there's certain guys. The one thing
that made this guy different than anybody they've had there
in a long time time was with the biggest is
when you got a guy that had I'm talking about
this kind of feet and the ability to throw it
like Arch does.
Speaker 1 (12:12):
And I thought that it was a little bit a
little bit too.
Speaker 7 (12:17):
It's his first on the way to Ohio State start
I did. Now, I may maybe I'd have done it
the same way if I'm start going into it. But
he's around him every day and I assure you that
he will bounce back. But you know the people are
so brutal to I mean social media. Can you imagine?
Can you imagine? I just think to people and I'm
not this not a listen I'd say about anybody. Arch
(12:39):
Manning played average football. He did not play really good
football and was not good enough to beat Ohio State Camp.
He's got to play better, and those a couple throws
on a final series if he if he makes decent throws,
they're going down to this is going to be a
difference maker. Then you're gonna have to decide you want
to go for two for the win on the road
or you want to go for uh play for overtime.
So this isn't partect.
Speaker 1 (12:58):
He didn't. He's got to play better.
Speaker 7 (13:00):
And it's not Sark's fault that he missed a wide
open throw in the flat or a crossing route or
an over route or a sale route. But he does
and then that the whole shot he threw up the
left sideline just stupid throws that he was making. He
made some phenomenal ones, but was inconsistent enough on simple plays.
So not protecting it. But social media is just if
(13:20):
if if you ever, if some kid ever wanted to
lose his self esteem. Have one bad game in front
of everybody, and they will it will as be as
if you robbed from their family. And then I would
ask Amy, and I'll say it louder. He's better at
his job the very first time in a tough circumstances,
or than we will, or the nerves, the success every
(13:42):
single one of us. First time you turn on a mike, dude,
you about pissed yourself. I know I did, okay the
first time you were going live, you didn't think you
were ready.
Speaker 6 (13:53):
I don't know if urinated myself, but I would probably say, uh,
it was kind of like the other first time, you know, yeah,
he's kind of good at it. Yeah, so so my
point is just too hard, kind of use a euphi
more but euphemism. It was, you know, the bottom line
is you said, but there's that feeling of, you know,
(14:17):
where we were all overwhelmed our first day work in
a big career.
Speaker 7 (14:21):
Well, then you're special, then you're especially you jumped right
off of college campus and jumped into being Dan Patrick.
But I think most of us on live. I remember
my first time on a live national broadcast of a game,
and when the red light goes on you. I don't
care how long you prepare for it, but I would
assume that most of our first jobs we were overwhelmed
to the problem. The difference is nobody ever got to
see it or hear it. Now the bottom is social media.
(14:44):
Social media your brutal. I mean, you're brutal. It's it's
I mean, and I know what happens to all of us.
We've all been through it and been buried by it
or been enhanced by it. It's just the he never
had a chance to grow into the position. His last name.
He never had a chance. But I assure you he
ain't backing off from it. So I just the same
energy for arch Manning when he plays great, would be
(15:06):
would be nice, just like it would be for any
other for Cjstrat to anybody else. It's a brutal position
that most of the world quite frankly, has no idea
how difficult the job he's got to do every week,
especially with those expectations. There's nobody in the country that's
been a player in college football for the last twenty
five years that's had these expectations placed on him. Yet
(15:27):
his job is to fulfill it. If he doesn't, you
got to hammer him. He did not play well enough
to win at Ohio State. Yeah, we'll get into that
a little bit later on the show.
Speaker 6 (15:34):
And you're mentioning some of the social media, the Uncle
Rico memes are already making their way out.
Speaker 7 (15:40):
With that one side arm throw he had, it was
like one once he lived side arm Yeah, I mean
his side arm throws. I mean that's that he lived there,
and he's going to have to fix that. That's a
I'm just telling you, I understand, but the inconsistencies of
throwing at a slot when you don't have to are
can be a problem. And I'm I'm keeping an eye
(16:02):
as his growth goes or his accuracy and mechanics skill,
because you know that family's a mechanically sound family, but
he's a he's not a he's a three quarter and
a half. I mean, he drops down and he's going
to get him in trouble with some high and behind
throws if it doesn't get fixed. I'm just telling you
that's something that has got to under duress.
Speaker 6 (16:19):
Most importantly, tons happen in the college football opening weekends,
so obviously we wanted to carry that over with no
show yesterday. But do you want to get back into
some astros because a massive positive that I don't even
think any of us saw come in at yesterday. And
we'll discuss that here on the Sean Salisbury Show on
a Tuesday after Labor Day.
Speaker 1 (16:40):
Right here Sports Talk seven ninety. This is Craig Vigio.
Speaker 7 (16:46):
You're listening to Sean Salisbury on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 1 (16:50):
Oh you're home with the Stros.
Speaker 6 (16:54):
But I mean, if you came into yesterday's start, We've
done this now a few different times, Sean. We did
it with Christian Hoavier. He exceeded expectations. We did it
with Spencer Araghetty. He probably matched about what we thought
that you would get out of Spencer Aarrageddy in that
first start against the Marlins and then yesterday against Luis Garcia.
If you had said three earned runs, you would have
(17:15):
probably said four and a third, maybe he gets through
the fifth. But to get six innings six strikeouts out
of him yesterday and really just have that one bad inning,
that was much more than you could have bargained for,
and it was a massive, massive positive for the Strows.
Speaker 7 (17:32):
I thought he was really friggin good. Considering and hiss
Vilo's not that he's not. He's not what was he
at before he went out ninety three?
Speaker 1 (17:41):
I mean, yeah, I know, I know that.
Speaker 6 (17:43):
The only time that I ever remembered a pretty good
amount of pop on his fastball was when he came
in for that relief appearance against the Mariners in the playoffs.
He was getting it up to about ninety five. But
he's usually about a ninety two ninety three guy.
Speaker 7 (17:58):
Because he was, you know, watching him, it's ninety ninety
one yesterday, but he was in control.
Speaker 1 (18:05):
I thought he was poised.
Speaker 7 (18:09):
I didn't expect it his first time back. I didn't,
And I thought, that is a that's a tremendous He's
only going to get better.
Speaker 1 (18:16):
This guy. He knows how to pitch, which I love,
but healthy. The guy's really really good.
Speaker 7 (18:22):
And I thought, first first time, I didn't expect him
to get that deep and that was a huge help yesterday,
it sure was. And so yeah, this is something you've
been waiting on. Now you start to say, Okay, Javier,
we know what Jason Alexander. We get Fromber obviously was
lights out in his last start. Look Like Fromber, we
(18:43):
know who Hunter Brown is, even though he never gets
run support. The dude still keeps you in him. Now
we're talking, and now you add Garcia to this mix.
This is an Arroghetti continues to grind it out, get
to cut down on walks, but he's getting better every
single it feels like he's getting stronger. I mean, you're
here now went from it like, oh my gosh, what's
(19:05):
up with the depth with Now these guys are starting
to grow into it and hopefully building to the right
position as you get these last twenty four to twenty
five games.
Speaker 6 (19:12):
Well, and I mean, as I mentioned to coming into
this home stand that you could not lose the series
that was one that if you had lost that yesterday,
you're feeling a lot different heading into this Yankees series
one game.
Speaker 1 (19:24):
Yes, And that's the thing.
Speaker 6 (19:25):
I mean, you lose three out of four to a
team that has fallen to last place in the division,
to then drop three out of four to them, where
I mean it looked like early on you were going
to continue to get the same frustration out of the
lineup that you'd been getting because I mean, futility doesn't
even begin. Even in the wins against the Rockies. You
didn't come out of that series feeling all that great
(19:47):
about the lineup.
Speaker 1 (19:49):
Oh, there's no question about it. Period, you didn't.
Speaker 7 (19:52):
I'm trying to think, have you Do you feel better
now about ball of it combined now than you did
at any point time of the season.
Speaker 6 (20:02):
Not really, because I've got to see it more than
one game. You're talking about from the whole, the entire roster,
just the lineup itself. I'm talking about pitching, bull pitching.
I feel great, see that. That's what I'm saying. I'm
talk about the overall roster. Okay, yeah, the way I'm knowing.
Speaker 7 (20:17):
With Okay, Correy is here in the lineup, and and
Jordan's you know, I mean, he's got to He's getting
into the mix and get him rolling.
Speaker 1 (20:23):
Christian Walker a couple of home runs. I mean the
and and just made this note.
Speaker 5 (20:29):
Let me.
Speaker 1 (20:30):
I'm gonna get to it real quick as we're talking.
Speaker 7 (20:31):
But I feel better about it because I know now
it looks like Javier, I mean, the pitching, those three
or four guys you needed to elevate did after what
Fromberg gave us. I know what Hunter Brown's gonna do
when he shows up and did the Correy in the lineup,
I'll two bays you know, up twenty five home runs.
Speaker 1 (20:49):
Rius.
Speaker 7 (20:49):
I mean, there's some guys that you're starting to say, Okay,
we're onto something. And I feel better about it because
it's getting healthier. There's more packed in the lineup. Whether
it struggles or not, there is more impact in there.
And you got to start to feel really good about
the way that's starting pitching. So overall, all three pieces together, bullpens,
(21:12):
starting pitching, and hitting. I feel better, I'm not saying
with the way they've won, but feel better going into
a game than I have all year. And I made
this point since I was out of town too and
got this is and had had a friend reminded me
of this as well. Think about what Dana Brown said
(21:35):
about Jordan's impact, and we said, man, that's a lot
of expectations. But I take you back to was it
what day was it? Thursday Day? Game was three to
three tie, it's Chris think. I remember it was in
the bottom of the eighth inning, and I made a
note of this bottom of the eighth inning, and uh,
they had a left handed reliever and the Rockies had
one left handed reliever. Brought him in a game to
(21:57):
keep Alvarez on the bench just when he pinch hit
and they brought the left hander and kept him in.
Christian Walker, uh, gets that first pitch that he drives
unties the score. So just the fact that Jordan Alvarez
is in a uniform and over there getting you know,
compensiate or do what he wants, they had to use
(22:18):
it up. Christian Walker comes in, boom, go ahead score,
Astros winning game.
Speaker 1 (22:24):
So that impact.
Speaker 7 (22:25):
So I feel better about them now than I have
in this whole year because of everything seems to be
funneling the right way. As a part of the man
this guy got hurt or what's going on with this
in the bullpen and you know you got to settle
in and make sure you close out games. But they're
getting deeper there and out there starting pitching. They're they're
gonna have to use some of these guys in the bullpen.
(22:46):
They just are there's there's there. Now you're getting you're
now you're getting to the point where it's you got
a possible wealth of riches and could be an embarrassment.
And one of these guys kick in righting Lewis Garcia,
and Luis Garcia keeps going the way he's going, so
I feel pretty good about it then.
Speaker 6 (23:01):
Well, I mean especially to being able to stomach some
of the injuries you've had to Hater and also to
Bennett Sussa, which we'll have to wait and see as
the week goes along, if those guys maybe can be
back in the fold here sooner rather than later. But
you want to get in on some astros someone three
two one two five seven ninety against someone three two
one two five seven ninety.
Speaker 1 (23:23):
Well, somebody made a prediction and they backed it up.
Speaker 6 (23:27):
We'll discuss that here as we continue the astros conversation
on a Tuesday after Labor Day Sean Salisbury Show, Sports
Talks seven ninety.
Speaker 7 (23:34):
Hey, guys, I asked a DNM executive DNM Leasing and
executive the other day who his ideal customer is. And
it's someone who writes checks for ultra luxury cars and
having second thoughts about all the depreciation. No, it is
someone who trades every three years, constantly, possibly accumulated negative
equity while making higher payments every time.
Speaker 1 (23:56):
Is it one of those two or is it the.
Speaker 7 (23:58):
Budget conscious customer looking to say forty percent on a
monthly payment with reasonable terms. His answer was, it's all
three and more, white glove concierge experiences at less costs,
luxury SUVs, sports cars, pickup trucks, families, stands, all those,
they do it all.
Speaker 1 (24:14):
So are you one of the three?
Speaker 7 (24:16):
Well, it's all of them, according to this executive, and
with fifty thousand active customers, they have the program for
you and experts currently standing by to help you with it.
Leasing is not renting. It's the smarter option for most
and possibly the ideal option for most. So if you're
interested in any of those, make sure make sure all
(24:38):
those years you've been paying out and haven't reached out,
that you do it now and dial and give them
a call at seven one three two nine zero one thousand.
That's seven one three two nine zero one thousand, or
visit them online today at D and M auto Leasing.
It's dmauto leasing dot com. That's dmauto Leasing dot com.
Speaker 10 (24:57):
And we're fout there for the Shawn Salsbury the show continued.
Speaker 6 (25:02):
You know, you leave there at halftime, at least I
did to get home to get some sleep for the show.
And as soon as I pulled back into the house
and turn on the TV thirty four to seven, and
I'm like, what the hell just happened.
Speaker 7 (25:17):
Well, at halftime they started a chance. They didn't you know,
they opened up their first series, driving out, scoring, thinking down,
doing their thing. I think it was their first series, Yeah,
it was. And they ran the ball on you or
they're up seven to nothing and they went like forty
two unanswered. But they went at halftime. I mean, you
blinked in the third quarter and it was the game
was over.
Speaker 1 (25:36):
No, It's like I just like that. So but it's
going to be a work in progress. The whole thing
for me.
Speaker 7 (25:40):
The biggest concern for me with all the NFL people
coaching it, you got to be careful not to get
to That's what I was concerned a little bit about
Matt Patricia after twenty years not being in college football.
It's much more complicated to play defense in the NFL
than it is in college. There are certain coverage, I mean,
with disguising and all that stuff that you do far
(26:03):
more high school to college.
Speaker 1 (26:04):
Different. College of the NFL is far different.
Speaker 7 (26:06):
You may see a handful of coverage, you ain't seeing
ten to twelve coverages like you may see in the
league in any given day. I'm my concern with North
Carolina is that Bill's too smart and that the staff
is too advanced to be able to set back and
say we're coaching college kids now.
Speaker 1 (26:22):
Because it's a majority.
Speaker 7 (26:23):
I mean, they have so many former NFL just from
Mike you, Lombardi all the way down. It's an NFL
thought and they've told you that's the way they're going
to do it. And I know expectations you put on
these kids, and they got academics and the rest of it.
But what can happen is you can get so complicated
trying to put schemes together that were complicated enough for
the NFL quarterbacks that you're looking around and you're sit
(26:45):
and then I'm talking about and also defense, that you
out complicate your own team so you're out of position.
How many times you see in the first half that
Hoover if he gets a chance to make set his
feet and make a throw, you know, Scramble didn't see it.
There's a guy running through the coverage wide open. So
my concern with North Carolina is not are they well coached,
it's are they too coach to the point where you
(27:06):
get too cute and too complicated and they can't quite
keep up because you're trying to coach out of college
kids with the coverages they play and thinking like a
Sunday guy.
Speaker 1 (27:17):
That's what I'm watching for them. How quick are they
adjust to the scheme.
Speaker 7 (27:20):
You're going to see free runners quite often running through
them like you did yesterday, because they're trying to fit
into a scheme.
Speaker 1 (27:26):
That Bill is who he is.
Speaker 7 (27:28):
And Steve Belichick's been an NFL guy for the most
part as well. It's the way it works, even though
he was what a University of Washington last year. Right,
he's done both and he's done a lot of you know,
he grew up in an NFL home, so he thinks,
like one, he's more NFL coaching in college than he
is college coaching in the NFL. So you have to
be alert for that because you can't do the same
(27:50):
things in the NFL is many times with the disguises
as you do, I mean in college you do in
the NFL.
Speaker 1 (27:56):
Plus they play faster. So it's a tough task and
it showed up yesterday.
Speaker 5 (28:01):
Well.
Speaker 6 (28:01):
Freddie Kitchens too, the OC for UNC, another former NFL guy,
But yeah, that was one that I'm sure also dealing
with the freshman quarterback, right, that was one that I'm
sure that Bill was probably about halfway through that game
yesterday's scene, what am I doing?
Speaker 5 (28:16):
Man?
Speaker 1 (28:16):
Seriously, I'm sure times that.
Speaker 7 (28:18):
But I also know that after he had that thought,
you know, for the next end, came to his mind,
I'm going to get this fixed.
Speaker 1 (28:25):
Oh he even not as much after the game better
than that.
Speaker 7 (28:27):
Yeah, and they'll get it. They'll get it fixed. They'll
be hell, they're gonna upset somebody along the way that
they're not supposed to beat. But for him, it's just you.
He's got a guard against. I'm still coaching. I think
I'm coaching college kids. I can't give all these wed
eleven guys are standing up around the line of scrimmage.
I've got to be a little more basic, because in
truth do less. You get more when kids are overthinking
(28:48):
any of us. You don't get to do the things
you want to do offensive or defensively because your mind
is so used up that you can't react. You want
to be a reactor. And Bill's NFL teams, when they
got to that point, you saw what did did not
look good.
Speaker 1 (29:02):
That is for sure. Some astros.
Speaker 6 (29:04):
Though from yesterday, as I mentioned, the win eight to
three over the Angels and split that series. But on
Sunday maybe Jose al Tuove was a little bit of
a sooth seer as after that loss three nothing again, offensive, futility,
all of those things, he had this to say, I
think we are just maybe not following the plan that
(29:26):
would normally work for us. But I think we will
be good tomorrow. Got good hitters. When we are in
these situations, we always overcome this. We're still in a
good position, so we're going to go out there and
win the game tomorrow. And then what does he do?
RBI double to run Homer helping out. So Jose al
Tuove willing it to existence yesterday for the Astros. And oh,
(29:49):
by the way, eight runs and six for fifteen with
runners in scoring position much better.
Speaker 7 (29:54):
You'll win a lot of games that way, a lot
of games that way. And al Tuove just has a
way getting things done, doesn't he. And these they're there,
I feel like there's a little more confidence growing with
them at the plate, even though maybe they were confident
the whole time. But from our advantage point, it looked
like little timid at times. When I say timid and
(30:14):
then over the aggressive change all the stuff we've talked
about all year, but it's amazing how well you become prophetic.
But prophetic, you know, it equals is production and a
lot of keywords, you know, progressive production, potential possibilities.
Speaker 1 (30:31):
And we see that this.
Speaker 7 (30:33):
They're more equipped now dedicated offensive success. There you go,
and well we've said it all year long. When you
score a few runs, you got a real legitimate chance
to win the games. They just they look different and
this is going to be the right time for them
to play different as well and continue this because even
though you got some help and what's the three games now,
it's still it's you look at the thing they have
(30:55):
to get the Yankees and then they're spending more time
on the road than they are at home artists of
the splits there, they're spending more time. And actually they've
had some we know, the last twenty games going into
this home stands we talked about they weren't good. So
they've got an opportunity to go get some road cooking
two here and with like twenty some game, twenty five
series left five three game series?
Speaker 5 (31:16):
Is that what it is?
Speaker 7 (31:18):
So it's, uh, I think that's what it is. I mean,
so you're within no. Five to three game series. That's
only fifteen. They've got more than that. They've got like
they've got less than forty what it regardless, six sixth,
whatever it is, there's twenty five, twenty four games left whatever,
and uh, it's they most of them are spent on
the road, at least what three more six more on
(31:40):
the road, two more series on the road than at home.
And they they're usually pretty good. And we'll find out
with that resilience how clutched they are. And as long
as they get themselves a and you know, you want
to get a good draw in the playoffs and have
an opportunity to get yourself moving. And they don't want
the same repeat last year where they blinked and they
were down two games and gone and the series was over.
Speaker 6 (32:02):
Yankees winners in seven other last ten two they lose
on Sunday to the White Sox. So you got a
seventy six win team, just like you have seventy six
wins coming in to this series. Continue the Astros conversation.
You want to jump aboard someone three two one two
five seven ninety, We can get someone three two one
two five seven ninety is so we continue here on
(32:23):
the Sean Salisbury Show Sports.
Speaker 1 (32:25):
Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 6 (32:27):
But first want to tell you and I have been
telling you about my friends over there at Center Genicks
and the Low Te Center, because hey, they've been changing
lives from in across the country for over a decade now.
Speaker 1 (32:40):
And it's not just talk, it's the truth. Trust me,
I am living proof of it.
Speaker 6 (32:44):
This is visit number seven after my initial tests since
heading over to Center Genics right there at the Galleria
office and gonna get my follow up testing today and
also start on some new stuff too as well. Looking
forward to telling you all about out that. But a
lot of guys start seeing results in just a few weeks,
(33:04):
and I've told you the energy is there. If you
notice that you're getting tired a little bit more often,
you're experiencing a lack of motivation just going to the gym,
you kind of get up to that point and you're.
Speaker 1 (33:14):
Like, ah, maybe not today, maybe tomorrow.
Speaker 6 (33:16):
It's not just aging, it's physical, it's mental changes in
your body, and testosterone can absolutely help you.
Speaker 1 (33:22):
Don't just take my word for it.
Speaker 6 (33:24):
I mean, you know I'm telling you about it, but
I mean, anybody else that you find out that goes
to Synergenics in the Low T Center, You're gonna hear
comments like, man, energy is way up. I just feel
so much better killing it at work and feeling so
much better at the gym and the recovery afterwards.
Speaker 1 (33:39):
And you know the wife, well, yeah, she's feeling a
certain way.
Speaker 6 (33:43):
Well, maybe you're gonna start hearing things like that from
people who go to Cinergenics. Get started, quick test any
one of the Houston Aaria locations for Centergenics and the
Low T Centers. On site labs are going to provide
the results for you in just a handful of minutes.
And the best is Centergenics and the Low T Center

(34:04):
that you want to choose your life. You can either
be treated at one of the Houston area clinics or
you can also have the treatments sent to your home
and you can do it for yourself at home, and
the provider is going to educate you on the process.
Most insurance options are accepted. Fixmilow t dot com. That's

Speaker 1 (34:34):
Why you're back. This is the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 11 (34:38):
Get back at it.
Speaker 1 (34:41):
Tough sledding for them.
Speaker 6 (34:43):
Dude, you start getting back problems like that at his age,
that ain't I remember. I had a coach a few
years ago telling us, you know, just how important you know,
core strength was and all of that, and he said,
your back is like a rubber band once you once,
Once that rubber band breaks, you cannot put that rubber
band back together, well.
Speaker 7 (35:02):
Especially and when you have to have and if you know,
if you ever have to talk to him as an
invasive surgery. That's why even doctors themselves, they do everything
you can to avoid the invasive surgery part. Now, I
don't know how severe and what kind of pain you know,
you rest. I wouldn't played him in a preseason anyway,
but how severe is he going to be living on
you know, shots during the year, and he may very
(35:22):
well be who the hell knows? You know, we to well,
you know what's his name, Micah Parsons is talking about,
you know, gett himself injected this week so he can
play as well. I mean, the brutal brutal business. But
the Rams are a whole different team if Stafford's not
on the field. So I don't know if it's one
of those whe're you know, playing and taking anytime you
take a hit to the back, it's gonna hurt. But
(35:43):
the structural part of where it hurts on the rotation,
the drop back. You know what I'm saying, We don't
really know. I mean, they keep those things kind of secret,
and you don't know what his threshold of pain is.
But you're right even more, going back to the offensive line,
talk about taking pride and keeping your quarterback from getting hit.
Speaker 1 (35:57):
That'll be one that that team.
Speaker 7 (35:59):
Now we can say about every team, but they're fortunate
what garoppolos their backup. They've got a guy that can
at least win some games for you as a backup.
Even though the way the ball comes out of the
hands a bit different between Stafford and Garoppolo, But that's important.
This is going to be fun and I know we'll
break it down as we get closer. It's gonna be
a fun game to watch and it is a great
test for the Texans. Right off the bat. It's kind
of like ut in Ohio State. I mean, both of
(36:21):
these teams have Super Bowl aspirations, and both of them
are that good to be thinking like that.
Speaker 1 (36:26):
I mean, it's it's coming out of the shoot.
Speaker 7 (36:28):
This is a good team you're going to face and
Sean McVay, will you know, and the guy who's coaching him, welcome,
you know, the offensive coordinator that did's coach him, welcome.
You get to go right back to knowing a guy
you know pretty damn well. So it'll be interesting to
see how they attack each other this weekend.
Speaker 6 (36:42):
That's a great point by you, because it's his first
game putting together a game plan, executing a said game plan.
Speaker 7 (36:49):
Against the very guy who was a who was a
mentor to him, to the teacher. Yeah, that's it.
Speaker 6 (36:54):
So I mean, don't tell me that Sean McVay this
week with I don't know who their DC is there
in LA, but don't tell me that those guys aren't saying, hey,
you know, maybe our scout team looks we give you
just what we do right.
Speaker 1 (37:07):
And on the other side of it.
Speaker 7 (37:10):
That if you're I mean, you know in your mind
how Sean McVay goes about his business, right, And then
so it's one of those that you start to play,
well do I did the old double where he thinks,
this is my amo. I love to run the football.
I love to run it in a second and one
and we're backed up and we take play action shot
it becomes And don't think it doesn't matter. You always
want to show the people that you left that you
(37:31):
know it was on him. He had a great opportunity.
You always encourage your coaches to go. But it's fitting
he gets to do it and go out and I
I mean the way it is you transfer in the
first team, you plays your album the school you started at, right,
I mean, it's the way it works, man, And so
it finds you. And this will be good for this
team and health obviously at a premium for both. But
(37:51):
the whole key for them is how healthy is Matt Stafford.
Because the Rams are our super Bowl caliber team and
they were close last year. They had Philadelphia on the
ropes at the end, and Philadelphia staved him off and
they go on and win. And there's no reason for
me to think Philadelphia is still not as good as
they were last year, if not better. So this Rams
and Texans game, which will break down as we get
close to the end of the week is going to be.
It's a hell of It's one of the best matchups
(38:12):
of the opening week.
Speaker 1 (38:13):
It really is.
Speaker 7 (38:14):
And maybe it's not going to be as highly public
will be in LA, but you get two teams that
have the final four aspirations that if they're healthy, maybe
good enough to do it.
Speaker 6 (38:24):
I didn't know there was another Shula coaching because if
you had said that their DC was Chris Shula out
of them and like, I had no idea that that
guy even existed, and that the family knows a little
football just a bit. So uh, Texans get the Rams
on the road. And also, I mean, as you've mentioned too,
(38:45):
just an incredible test for them to be able to face,
for not only their coaching staff, because for Demiko, I
think for him he's seen the Rams enough from when
he was the DC in San Francisco that I mean,
he still remembers a lot of their concepts, what they
do and you know, how to be able to try
to prepare for it. But Nikua incredible option for them
(39:05):
there at receiver. Also, I mean another guy, Tyler Higby.
I mean I've said it numerous times that if you
want to see how this offense is going to be used. Well,
just look at the rams in the way that they
were used, and Tyler Higby was a huge part of
that offense, and they want to use it more. I
mean that is I'll tell you it to me, it's
(39:25):
the most under rated. If you've got a good one,
that's you can dominate games at that position. And I'm
anxious to see how both teams utilize that position this year,
be honest with you, and it'll be a great start.
Speaker 1 (39:36):
It's a hell of aid to open the season.
Speaker 6 (39:37):
Yeah, we're going to get into some Texans too in
the seven o'clock hours. It is a game week and
do you want to get you ready for that?
Speaker 5 (39:45):
One?
Speaker 2 (39:45):
Is?
Speaker 6 (39:45):
The regular season is here and the excitement that follows too.
Although I mean I do have to pick a bone
with a listener out there, if they are listening right now.
Is talking about quarterbacks and I'd mentioned Jimmy Garoppolo and
he goes, oh, Garoppolo definitely over Stroud. I was like, okay,
I can't even respond to this just on on premise alone,
(40:08):
but you don't even believe saying that.
Speaker 7 (40:11):
Well, of course he's not taking Garoppolo over Stroud. Garoppolo
is a good guy to have if you needed to
start a few games. He really is, because he's seen
what it said. He's about three throws away in the
fourth quarter from being a Super Bowl champion and having
the narrative completely changed on him. Mm hmm, Well, was
he three of eleven in the second half. If they
call a better game and he makes a couple of
throws that were open that he missed, he's a super
(40:31):
Bowl champion. They had the Chiefs dead to write and
unfortunately couldn't close out. So but he's a solid He's
never going to carry teams and started, but he's a
really good backup toad that ends up in the league
eighteen years right, and can I ought to I'd rather
have a guy like that than somebody who couldn't play
for two or three games. But as far as who
the better player is, stop it. There's not a guy
alive that's taken Garoppolo. Even Jimmy Garoppolo himself's taking CJ.
Speaker 6 (40:54):
Stroud over him, even a step back year like people
and I did air quotes here in studio for c J.
Stroud and was still a division winner and still a
productive enough offense.
Speaker 7 (41:05):
Yeah, he's a better player. I mean nobody, nobody's there's
nobody that that's called. I'm gonna say something to get
your goat because he doesn't believe that. If he does,
then then great, we'll gladly have that bet anytime.
Speaker 1 (41:15):
Whoever said it.
Speaker 6 (41:16):
Wants Colin Cowherd or Skip Bayless have his Twitter account
for that one, because.
Speaker 1 (41:21):
You see me saying stuff they don't believe. Brother, some
of the I didn't see Skip you said he was
just do a search during the break. Yeah, I don't
want to do I need to waste my time on
skipp and doing that.
Speaker 6 (41:32):
You're not gonna be embarrassed for tells me you're gonna
better gonna be embarrassed for yourself for reading it.
Speaker 1 (41:37):
Yeah, well, I don't want to.
Speaker 7 (41:38):
So I don't want to, you know, I don't want
to be one of those guys dumber that I want
to have God, God to have mercy on my soul
and award me points.
Speaker 1 (41:44):
Okay, I don't want to be the guy that does it.
Speaker 7 (41:46):
So the stay off skips Hot takes for you just
to get him where you're like, yes, I'm still here.
Speaker 11 (41:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (41:53):
No, the ethics of business, right, Yeah, that guy, Eric,
you give him the company it.
Speaker 1 (42:00):
Eric he's a bad bad man. Yeah, there you go.
Speaker 6 (42:03):
If you had that on your Bingo card this morning,
well then congratulations, go collect. It is Sean Salisbury Show
here on a Tuesday. You want to jump aboard seven
one three two one two five seven ninety against seven
one three two one two five seven ninety. Let's get
back into the Astros conversation because more credits needed for
this guy because he's been stepping up for this group,
(42:24):
and we will discuss that right here on the Sean
Salisbury Show. But first gotta tell you about our good
buddies over at Jbarm Barbecue, because I say it all
the time.
Speaker 1 (42:34):
You know, lunch it's coming up. You've got that to
look forward to.
Speaker 6 (42:37):
By the way, to triple e Sean, everybody here in
the office tomorrow morning ten thirty, Well, special delivery is
showing up here to the office and we're gonna be
eating good brother, because it's gonna be some tomorrow morning
ten thirty nice, So a little early lunch to get
us going on a hump day. It's gonna be some brisket,
some jilapeno shuddar sausage, maybe even some pork ribs in there,
(42:59):
and you mention it all the time.
Speaker 7 (43:00):
About those great sides too. Yeah, it's a phenomenal place, man.
I just it's a perfect time. Fall comes around, well, anytime,
it's a perfect time, and in any time of year.
Quite frankly, any meal you like it for lunch, you'll
be through there quickly. You don't have to wait, you'll
get it. You'll be able to eat it indoor outdoor.
The facilities off the charts, you can, I think they can.
What house, what a couple hundred people there. You can
(43:22):
go over there and throw a private party, do whatever
you need to do. But one thing I know, we
can have all the pomp and circumstances. They got a
great parking lot, the venues, off the charts, everything about it,
the food when you walk in, it wouldn't matter. You
could stick it on top of a building somewhere in
the middle of nowhere and you'd want to go there
to get this barbecue. So for me, it's the best.
And I try to always find comparisons, and you know,
sometimes we hate making comparisons, but in truth, you're looking
(43:43):
for a five star that produces like a five star.
Jay Barm does exactly that, so you don't need a
reason to go there other than you're hungry, and you
will not leave hungry.
Speaker 1 (43:51):
It's the triple threat.
Speaker 6 (43:53):
The food is amazing, the full service bar, and the
beer garden outside in the venue, all the way around.
It is an amazing place right there, twenty two to
one Leland Street, right there in Edo. Jbar M Barbecue,
J bar M Barbecue, lunch, dinner, anytime.
Speaker 1 (44:09):
It is always a great time to go to jbar
M Barbecue.
Speaker 12 (44:14):

Speaker 11 (44:39):

Sean Salisbury, Salisbury to USC true longtime friend, Sewn Salisbury.
Speaker 10 (44:46):
Dan Matthews, U Jesus, this is the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 6 (44:55):
The Astros bring the Yankees to town after splitting over
the weekend with the Angels. They went yesterday eight to
three and the Mariners lose, so that means the Stros
now are three games up on them and only four
and a half games up on the Rangers who come
back to beat the Diamondbacks last night seven to five.
(45:16):
So that means after this series going up to Arlington,
that's gonna be a massive one for the Astros, even
with the injuries the Rangers have had. Texans regular season
game week is here, the Rams in are They're going
to play the Rams in La on Sundays. So that's
what the Texans have to look forward to here right
out the gate. We'll get into a little bit of
(45:38):
Texans here later in the hour, But how about Caleb
Ort and what he has done recently for the Stros.
You've needed somebody in the back end of that bullpen
to step up get some high leverage outs for you,
because pretty much at this moment, for your late inning guys,
it's a two man game. It's Brian King and it's
Brian up Bray. You at the moment the Battle of
(45:59):
the Brians. Those guys making things happen there. But kayleb Board,
he comes in gets some massive outs for you, four
of them on Friday night for you to be able
to win that game, and then yesterday comes in and
gets a couple of really key outs for you to
help you win that game.
Speaker 1 (46:14):
Well, not just Tay. It's been the key.
Speaker 7 (46:16):
What's kept this team afloat all year long is you're
going in your question and then all of a sudden somebody,
one or two of them.
Speaker 1 (46:26):
Do something.
Speaker 7 (46:26):
You say, that was an incredible job by Jason Alexander,
and then in a phenomenal job, we said Brian King
every single day posting, and then we get well, kayleb
board like you you just mentioned. And then at some
point we say, man, can you imagine where we have
been without?
Speaker 5 (46:42):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (46:43):
Why why am I losing my mind?
Speaker 9 (46:45):
Uh?
Speaker 7 (46:46):
Pitcher who got hurt? Susan No, the lost for season starter?
Uh blancam no, this year.
Speaker 1 (46:55):
He was pitching.
Speaker 7 (46:56):
Why am I losing my mind? I got dog on
Jason Alexander on my mind. Spencer he just he just
he's the most recent. Tommy john Well, I mean, uh, starter, Yeah,
Blanco was the most recent? Was Nesky White?
Speaker 1 (47:10):
Dude?
Speaker 11 (47:10):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (47:11):
Yeah, there you go at times before you got the boom,
he stepped his game up, right, and then so it's
just it's been at the play. Oh my gosh, Look
what before he got hurt. Look what Paratus was doing.
Oh man, he carried it from man Peina. It's been
the story the whole year. Whenever they've needed it the most,
somebody and quite frankly, most of the time this year
(47:32):
it's been somebody you didn't expect it, really has. It's
been some oh Man. Yeah, Okay, Caleb Bart, he's become
that guy oh King. Well when I say expected where
he's just so steady you just kind of forget it.
He's like a good offensive line, just keeps doing his thing,
and they constantly, every single every day, somebody else when
(47:52):
they're going good, has reared it. And now cayleb Bard
sticks out, Garcia sticks out all of a sudden boom,
Christian Javier is gonna get here's oh Man's from bra
after four or five?
Speaker 1 (48:02):
You know where he wasn't Fromber does his thing when needed.
Speaker 7 (48:05):
And I know it's not the sign of a great
team to have to ask for that inconsistency, to be
consistent during inconsistency at times, but they've got it from
a different body all year long. There has not been
one body on this rot maybe Hunter Brown that the
entire season and payin You in all due fairness has
been pretty consistent.
Speaker 1 (48:25):
Most of the year.
Speaker 7 (48:26):
There's not one guy on the roster that you look
at and say, that's been the guy who's carried what
what cal Rawley's doing in Seattle or everything, your star
loaded up. They have not had a star carry them
this year. Payne is becoming one. Al Twovey's been one
and is still, you know, the superstar in our eyes,
but he's he's not the way you talk about cal
(48:51):
Rawley this year. You're not talking about Al too they
I'm talking about production wise. Yet he's really good. So
the point is this is a superstar hasn't carried this
team this year other than on the mound at the
top two guys at certain points this year. Other than
that Caleb boards have reared their head and here you
have it doing it again at a time you need it.
Or Luis Garcia getting used through six innings so he
(49:11):
saves the bullpen so you don't have to get him
out because in truth, going in, there's no way anybody
thought more than five. Most people would have said, man,
if we can get like you did Javier, if you
get three or four innings out of him right off
the bat, that'd be great. You got six and you
got a really good performance, and there you go an overcoming,
didn't go into the tank when he had a couple
of bad you know, a couple of bat at bats,
and hung in there and the team bailed him out
(49:33):
when necessary with what from the fourth or the fifth
it was run run run every single inning they were
posting runs. And that puts a lot of stress on
a pitching staff, and then i mean on an opposing
pitching staff. And then when you get that and have
a lead, and then you get Ort to come in
and do his thing a couple times over the weekend.
Speaker 1 (49:50):
Life's good. It was important.
Speaker 6 (49:51):
Scoreless outings in his last four games, and yesterday the
first one of September. An inning, strikes out a couple.
It does give up a hit, but still nothing that
hurts you. Because in the month of August two point
two five era out of klab boards twelve innings, pitched
three earned runs, striking out sixteen.
Speaker 7 (50:13):
Another guy you've needed at a time when it was necessary,
not at a time when you're down nine and you
get a solo home run in the seventh, at a
time when you need a guy to do it. Pitch,
do his thing, get people out, gobble up a few innings,
take an extra out or two that you need to
get and and be available the next day. Yeah, it's
been That's what sustained them this year. And think about
(50:36):
how many times you said, Van, are they going to score?
What is going on here? Three games in front of
first place after all these injuries and all this, and
they have still yet to have five games in a
row where you've gone that wow, and a good you
have not seen Think about that. There has not been
one stretch where it's been five games where you go,
I'm talking about it the plate where you say, wow,
(50:57):
this is unbelievable, where you know those streaks of somebody
going on a month and then this team's been on
him in the past, they have not had that. We're
five games, you know what you're saying, this is epic.
It's been one or two then score run, score run,
get shut out and score five then. And I know
that's the way it is from most baseball team, but
I'm done with those dominant teams, which is even more
of a tribute throughout all this. It's somebody else that
(51:19):
three games in front of first place and they don't
have one guy that I mean, they'll be fortunate to
get one guy to hit thirty home runs this year,
fortunate al two Bays. What twenty five leads a team?
Twenty four twenty four? I thought he got his twenty
fifth over the weekend. Maybe I'm wrong. Okay, So twenty
four home runs and sitting there in position that he's
(51:39):
gonna lead your team at home runs and he may
not get to thirty and what five home runs? That's
all home run every five games, obviously feasible. But if
he doesn't and they went in first place, I mean,
I'm sure it's happened many times, but it just feels like, man,
twenty seven home runs lead your team and you win
the division in a division where a guy may hit sixty.
So I just it's a tribute to them in the
(52:01):
Caleb Boards of the world who really did elevate their play,
and the different guys at the right time.
Speaker 1 (52:06):
North of forty home runs too, and a Heino sword
there you go.
Speaker 7 (52:10):
So yeah, they're gonna well think about this, they're going
to have more home runs, the two of them than
probably well it's not fair, but it would take a
long time for this lineup to catch up to just
two how many more games it would take for Altuva
to get to forty.
Speaker 1 (52:26):
You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 7 (52:27):
So it's they've they've they're they're raking men, and that's
why the lead still is is quite frankly, get a
good way baffling with after all this happened. They have
no business being in this position, yet you say that,
And they went at the right time, and they got
help at the right time from their own injuries, and
they got help from teams like Seattle and the Rangers,
(52:48):
who's spent more time chasing instead of living there, and
they've been able to stave it off in three games.
All you'll take it, after all this, you will take.
Speaker 1 (52:56):
Where you are.
Speaker 6 (52:57):
Well, I mean especially too with you know, since you
came home from La how this team has been so
inconsistent for about a month and a half now, I
mean almost two months. How inconsistent this team has been.
And look, I mean joe A Spada Jose al Tuove
talking about on Sunday of the urgency of what this
month is and now the Astros hopefully can live up
(53:18):
to that. All right, simple question for you, Sean and
the audience, and it is this, if the stuff hit
the fan, would you want to survive? We'll answer that
question right here. It is a Sean Salisbury show on
a Tuesday Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 1 (53:35):
The Houston Sports World.
Speaker 12 (53:37):
Yes, Sean Salisbury knows how to play the game because
he really played the game.
Speaker 1 (53:43):
Yep, former prol QB right here.
Speaker 10 (53:46):
He actually has it on his name tag former pro
QB right here. Back to Sean on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 1 (53:57):
All right, Sean, what are you hearing out there now?
Speaker 12 (54:00):
The Salsbury stakeout, sALS burrief stakeout on the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 13 (54:19):
Sean Stalisbury Show here on.
Speaker 6 (54:37):
A Tuesday Sports Talk seven ninety. Astros beat the Angels
eight three, split the series at dyk In Park. Now
the Yankees in town, three games up on the Mariners,
four and a half up on the Rangers. Texans regular
season game week is here. Hop on a plane, head
out to La take on the Rams on Sunday. All right, Sean,
as I said, the stuff hits the fan, would you
(54:59):
want to survive? And that is you know, the impending,
the the end times are here, you know, the the
end is Nie, The apocalypse is here.
Speaker 1 (55:08):
Make good phrase. The end is Nie, the end of NYE.
That's always when anytime I can throw a nine. I
always do that.
Speaker 7 (55:15):
Do you ever throwing wars and rumors of wars? You
read that in the scriptures? Well, I mean, yeah, the
little revelation for you know, I'll tell you what else
and that one what else you have revelation? You also
got to stay away from, uh, you know, wars and
rumors of wars. There you go, revelations.
Speaker 1 (55:26):
You got to stay away from the Harlots, so too, Yeah,
the bridegroom, Yeah, triple e. Stay away from them. Harlot's
out there. We'll do that.
Speaker 7 (55:34):
Harlot's is a different way of saying, well hose. Okay,
they didn't have it wasn't zoid through well, yeah, it
wasn't just zoid. Zoys is a tweener. You know, it
could be a good thing of zoid. But we Harlot's.
Back in the day, they hadn't quite come up with,
you know, uh, riding dirty and them hose.
Speaker 1 (55:53):
You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 7 (55:54):
So it was Harlot's wars and rumors of wars, and
well there's Harlots out there. Some guys had fifty seventy
five harlots.
Speaker 1 (56:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (56:02):
Basically these days we call them a frequel. A oh
man right, So there you go. So back to your
biblical where are we going here?
Speaker 1 (56:10):
Pop?
Speaker 6 (56:10):
So there is a Vegas underground estate that is that
is on sale for eight and a half million, and
it's got a bunker meant to ride out a war.
Speaker 1 (56:19):
That is part of it.
Speaker 6 (56:21):
And I get back to you know that I'm a
big Rogan listener, and I remember once he was talking
about this with someone because I think it was like,
remember that time after that Julia Roberts movie came out
where it was a coup and all of that here
and you know, you're thinking to yourself with all of
these billionaires, they're underground bunkers.
Speaker 1 (56:39):
All of that.
Speaker 6 (56:40):
And Rogan brought up a great point, you don't want
to survive this because the people who are going to
be left over, like you watch The Walking Dead, Megan
and all those people, they're bad people. They're people who
become savages for survival.
Speaker 7 (56:55):
Yeah, and you'll be making love to somebody with two heads.
You don't want them, know, don't You don't want any
of it. You'll be thinking, you're what's the one with
Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith with that series called
oh Men in Black? Yeah, you'll be doing that, but
what ahead, You'll chop one off and another one will
pop time.
Speaker 1 (57:11):
I'm with you, who okay, bunker time? Then you come
out to it.
Speaker 7 (57:14):
And then basically you saw the movie with's someone where
Denzel the biblical movie where he's walking across the country
to Eli. Yeah, Book of Eli, you said you want
you want to live in those times?
Speaker 1 (57:23):
That's it. I am legend. Yeah another one.
Speaker 6 (57:25):
There you go, you're walking around and it's talking to
a bunch of mannequins right right, and I and you know,
I've got to translate the book for you. I can't translate.
But Book Eli sure did, didn't it?
Speaker 1 (57:35):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (57:36):
You did.
Speaker 7 (57:36):
Underrated movie by the way, there you go makes anything, dude.
He can make a movie that has no script turn
into a great movie. But I why would you say,
you come out of your bunker and you got all
this money, right, what are you gonna do with it? Well,
it's gonna rebuild a community just for you to live in.
I was gonna say, I'd rather be I mean, for what,
You're not gonna have power and by the time you
(57:58):
rebuild it, you'll be dead.
Speaker 1 (57:59):
Well that's it. That's it.
Speaker 6 (58:00):
Like you know of rebuild civilization. What's there to rebuild?
So what like millions of years from now, maybe you
know you have people aroundships take me. I mean I'll battle, yeah,
I mean, I'll fight till the end. But if I go,
I'm going up to suit with the Good Lord. See
what all my buddies and my family again and my parents,
and I'm good. I was gonna say, I mean, you know,
if that rock ever falls from the sky, it's just
(58:21):
kind of like, well, just fall near me and then
it's kind of done, like right there, and you know,
but I'm going I mean, if all of a sudden
it's hey, you were near the rock, Yeah, I was.
If I got to fight an alien, a zombie, let's
go man. Well, I mean the newest one seems to
be the robots. Oh yeah, you know, we just seem
like we're biding our time until the robots finally realize,
(58:43):
you know, they can't really take us.
Speaker 7 (58:45):
Well you got then you got no where they take us,
and you got no shot anyway. So just to fight
it out, dig in, learn their language, whatever it is
you gotta do, and then when it's time to go,
to be time to go. So for me, I don't
I personally, Yeah, who wants the brunker. It's kind of
a cool you know, Oh man, I got this is now.
You know, you're if you have the one night of
your purge the bunk, then that's a great place to lie.
Speaker 6 (59:06):
I mean if it's if it's one of those that
you know you get back to reality the following day,
then yeah.
Speaker 1 (59:11):
That's the sort that goes back to normal.
Speaker 7 (59:13):
And it's just that twelve I don't know how you
can be but the purge and you did that protects
you and your family and then you go back for
the next year. Sure, now that's when and you get
the rest of your life to live. But if it's
all going down in the apocalypse, hips, grab your buddies
and your family and let's let's let's get it on,
fight it out together and whatever happens.
Speaker 1 (59:32):
But you don't want to survive that. I wouldn't think so.
Speaker 7 (59:34):
But the purge, now, yeah, the room like that at
the Purge where you got built in and then you
also have the built in guns for the purge, you know,
where you just push a button and it's like, you know,
fifty cows just blowing from all angles. Oh yeah, Now
that that building that kind of crib I get although
we don't have the purge, although there's some out there
that makes you feel like you got the purge right,
Yet sometimes you wake up and say, we are the
(59:55):
apocalypse with a bunch of weirdos every day. Anyways, Yet
you know, I'm with you.
Speaker 1 (01:00:00):
I don't want to. You don't want to survive that man.
You want to.
Speaker 7 (01:00:03):
You want to, you want to be around for your family.
But if we're going down, let's all fight together.
Speaker 1 (01:00:06):
I'm not. I'm not where that hits. I'm done.
Speaker 6 (01:00:08):
It's just kind of like, you know, unfathomable. I think about, like,
you know, how would I survive? I mean, you know
it's for the David Allen co song told us that
the country boy can't serve, the.
Speaker 7 (01:00:19):
Country boy can't survive. Yeah, that's what they tell me.
Well again and fish they can do all those things.
They got a better chance to survive in here than
they do. If you're just putting out a coat and
tie and walk into the finance world and and uh
that finance world and they're atm at going to mean
a hill of beams.
Speaker 1 (01:00:33):
I was gonna say, can you build a house? Can
you can you fix a car? Can you.
Speaker 7 (01:00:38):
Yeah, you know anything about oil and gas, how to
where to follow all those things. So I would give
us the if there's a survival mode of one hundred
of fifty states, what state's winning that survival truth?
Speaker 1 (01:00:49):
When you think about it, who's winning that?
Speaker 6 (01:00:51):
The Southeast there's no question, Louisiana, Alabama, Texas, Sippy yeah,
people who can do stuff with nothing.
Speaker 1 (01:00:57):
And then Pennsylvania. You know amishkun there.
Speaker 7 (01:01:00):
You don't have fourteen houses built in fourteen cents? Yeah,
oh yeah, no, there's no question. And they'll good old
Pittsburgh steel workers. They're tough enough to handle it. But man,
you got you gotta be able to get that. Not
the person who wears a suit. I can't get down
and dirty and fix a car. I don't mean that,
but you know the survival mode, and I think we
know how to do that pretty well here in Texas.
Speaker 6 (01:01:22):
I was gonna say, I mean, I think if there
are areas of the country that would be more equipped
for this, it would be us.
Speaker 7 (01:01:27):
I got news for you. If it's California versus Texas,
we I got news for you. The people at Texas
are choosing sides, and it ain't the one I mean
in California, and it ain't California, not.
Speaker 6 (01:01:37):
The ones who moved here from there, like your grandfather did.
You've been here long enough, but like it's it's a
daily basis now that I see California plates on the road.
Speaker 7 (01:01:46):
Oh yeah, because you know, wise it up. We just
don't need too many of them. Are they starting to
wisen up? Or do they like, you know, the way
of life here a little bit better, But then they
still want to bring you know, oh, bring the nonsense
with them, but steal the life that you have here. Yeah,
we have too many people that will resist that here,
you hope. So I guess yes we do now I
believe so well. I mean, that's that's the fight for
(01:02:08):
survival already.
Speaker 6 (01:02:09):
Yeah, lie brother, it's just you know, you don't you don't.
You don't come in here and change your way of life.
You want to you want to bring your fake Mexican
food in here. We don't want your fake Mexican foods.
Speaker 1 (01:02:17):
Oh whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Now you've gone too far. Oh,
you know, you can say a lot of Mexican food,
an avocado, you could stay.
Speaker 7 (01:02:26):
You can say a lot of things about California because
I'm from there, and I'm with you one hundred percent.
I know like California. I'm a Texan that was born
in California, not a California is born. I am a
Texan that's California. And after being back there this week
and I realized, nice to visit for a few days.
Let me go back home where it matters. So they've
ruined a beautiful state. I'll just leave it at that.
(01:02:46):
But you've gone too far now, Okay, don't ever as
long as we want this show, come you want text mechs,
you come here, you want real Mexican food, you'd get
down to my hometown in San Diego near the border.
That where the real Mexican food is. You can argue
your burgers and your donuts and all that.
Speaker 1 (01:03:04):
I get it. Stop. You know, if you want to
say Sewan down in the valley.
Speaker 7 (01:03:09):
As we inch closer to that, that's yeah, yeah, And
you'll get a hole in the wall once a while here.
But text mex food here far better here than you'd
get in California. But when you talk about authentic Mexican food,
head down to my area in San Diego near the border.
And then and then then come see me. So you
get all the dog and you want to California, and
I'm one hundred percent with you pushing it, doing it all.
(01:03:30):
But I can tell you this, you're the the that
the buck stops when you start saying, ah, you bring
your Mexican food into here. That's the one thing you
do want California to bring here, hole in the wall
Mexican food, and then they turn them. Just deliver and
get your ass back to your California. We got we
got the hole in the walls here, man. You know,
you know the place where you get where you get
(01:03:51):
a can. You know that's just like saying we don't
pot can of coke in the in the styrofoam cup.
Send listen, you go to a place that has that.
All the barbecue. We can't compete out there in californ
When it comes to barbacue. Now, Central California, when you
talk about tri tip, best try to Oh, I can
assure you I've had both, so I know both. Try
tip in Central California's pretty tough to beat. Yet this
(01:04:13):
place meat and all that in barbecue, but Mexican food,
stop it. Text mechs great here true authentic Mexican food
unless you're down in the Valley San Diego.
Speaker 1 (01:04:22):
It's not close.
Speaker 6 (01:04:23):
The last few times have been out there and I've
gone into a Mexican restaurant, I've seen chili con queso
on on on the menu. I'm just saying, I'm just
saying you didn't go into the right place. That's a
you problem, not a meat problem. It was delicious, it
was fun, Okay, Still, I'm just telling you. It's like
saying you're not a laying of chili beans in your chili.
You can still have both here, and you can still
(01:04:44):
prove that you're a great chili cooker. And it's just
one's the texasson and the other one is not there.
You go and it can still both taste good and
your version of text mex is great here. It's not
San Diego Mexican food, and you and I both know it.
So if you're going authentic, I'll take you there and
then you'll never want but you'll never want for better
Mexican food anywhere. Well, it's like when Rogan first moved here,
(01:05:05):
he had joked about, you know, I can't get any
decent burritos here, And of course people just lost their minds.
Speaker 7 (01:05:11):
Right well, and you know what, you should lose your
mind because unless you've had both authentic, you'll know the difference.
Speaker 1 (01:05:18):
And the text mex here is off the charts and
I love it, but there is.
Speaker 7 (01:05:22):
A difference, just like there's a difference between Deep Dish
and New York pizza. There's a difference in Detroit Poiza.
The just is and it can all be good if
you're if your styles, you like that, you like you know,
text mechs, which I do great. But if I'm going
for real, hardcore, authentic Mexican food, you're not going to
get it better here than you down near the border
(01:05:44):
where I was ready because I've had it in the Midwest.
Stop it, you know, I've had it plenty of place.
Like telling me that that a beachside town has has
less fresh seafood. Then pick someplace in the middle of
the you know, did did that? Did you have to
go get pick? Pick your favorite place in the middle country? Indiana, Chicago? Okay,
(01:06:09):
I'm talking like there's someone just say India. You think
Andiana's got better seafood than fresh getting right off the
from from either coast, of course, it does this So
but you can still be good.
Speaker 1 (01:06:19):
It can still be fresh and good.
Speaker 7 (01:06:21):
Same thing authentic Mexican food in my my area, in
my hometown is real Mexico. It is delicious whatever your
flavor is. And the text mechs here, so you can
love them both. But that's that's the one food that
you'd want here from California.
Speaker 6 (01:06:34):
It was like for my uncle's sixtieth birthday, I've told
this story on the air about he had. He was like,
he's like, oh, we have a really good Mexican spot
here in Westchester County and we're getting it catered. For
my birthday. It was manicotti for the what's it called, Yeah,
for the like. I was like, no, like, I just
I said to my cousin, I go, I go, hey, look,
you know, appreciate the effort all of that, but you
(01:06:57):
got to like go to a place in order in
a burke Bingo Bingo like it's probably like people from
there who you know, a man, I want authentic Italian,
which I've got places you can go. But of course
you're gonna say it doesn't taste like home because you're
used to the way it is up there. That's my
whole Italian food up there is is like what text
mex is here.
Speaker 7 (01:07:15):
Right, and it has a better and just the right
but also the same thing here is that you want
a different type of Italian food, you want to go there?
Speaker 1 (01:07:24):
Yeah, you just do. That's fun.
Speaker 7 (01:07:26):
That's why whenever all of us go to New York,
it's like, oh, where's that best to tell you? We
all want to spot Sure, that's the way it works.
So and that's okay. So everybody's got their strength, and
Texas has got far more of them than California.
Speaker 6 (01:07:37):
And they try to hit you with all these steakhouses
up there, stop stop in New Yorker, in California and
New York. Well, I'm sure in California too, they try
to hit you with that. Oh this place is one
of the best in the country. Oh it iss, they'll
say it all.
Speaker 1 (01:07:55):
Probably from us.
Speaker 7 (01:07:56):
Yeah, you think you're getting your beef from a different place,
It ain't you, Okay, exactly, that's sitting in the middle
of New York, sorry to tell you.
Speaker 1 (01:08:01):
Yeah, Oh, we've got some great Kobe beef. All right.
Well that's fine, and I'm sure it's delicious, But I
like the beef that I got on my plate.
Speaker 7 (01:08:08):
Yeah, so you want to cross into the calls, into
the Texas borders, and we'll show you all about exactly
exactly far more to like here, except there's a beautiful
ocean California and they damn we were trying to ruin
that out there in California too.
Speaker 1 (01:08:20):
They're doing a good job.
Speaker 6 (01:08:21):
Let's get in a little bit of Texans because the
test is here for this sea.
Speaker 7 (01:08:27):
You hate the text he picked him win four or
five games.
Speaker 1 (01:08:29):
I did not do that, Triple. Did you hear that?
There is that Dan saying that? Or did I just
make that up? You had him for what six and eleven?
Is that we had for? Wisely? Yeahos wisely? Yeah, he's
hedging his bets right here. Come on, Triple, pick a side.
Let's go.
Speaker 6 (01:08:46):
I'll get into some Texans right here. Sean Salisbury Show,
Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 1 (01:08:51):
For the Shawn Salisbury Show continued.
Speaker 6 (01:08:55):
And Sean, I mean the number one thing that me
you probably everybody's gonna be looking at on Sunday is
first and foremost this offensive line.
Speaker 1 (01:09:05):
I mean, a lot of work gone in.
Speaker 6 (01:09:07):
You promote a coach from within, which I mean, we're
gonna see if that works out, because my all thought was,
if you thought that group was a mess, why would
you continue any part of that group still being here.
It's nothing against call Popovich, It's just a all right, Well,
if the guy that was leading the group was not
able to get a ton out of them, what makes
(01:09:27):
you think that the guy that was the second in
command is going to be able to? Well?
Speaker 7 (01:09:32):
The second command sometimes learns a great deal from first
in command and what not to do. We always talk
about the things that you learn that good mentors learn
what to do. There's also the group that there's a party.
You have to discern what you need to take with you,
what you need to leave behind. And I know that
coaching matters, dude, at that it matters at every level.
(01:09:54):
We don't give coaching enough credit unless it's to the
people we want to give it to, Like the Savings,
who's you see his impact and it's being felt at Alabama.
The coaching part matters. But there's also a point in
time you can't coach out of a guy that if
you did, how is it the offense? I'm even going
to last. It doesn't matter who it is. Is it
really his fault that that tunsel can't quit moving? On
(01:10:17):
the offensive line, it's not. But here's the problem. The
stuff we don't see. Were they allowing that on the
practice field. Was it okay to oh, okay, let's run
it again, laramie, men, be patient to it or you
just run it again. Don't say anything because he's a
star and you don't want to correct him and you
don't want to embarrass him and embarrass him. Dude, you're
coaching you like I would anybody else. So there's that
(01:10:39):
part of Dude, I'm a firm believer I wasn't there
that part of the reason to step back in certain
things on offense. I believe from the just seeing it
before on teams I've been on. I'm only going from
experience that when those things start to happen on Sunday,
they were happening during the week. Once in a while
you get some. But I'm talking about the things that
(01:11:00):
are controllable, the undisciplined penalties, the being late for stuff
or just to step behind, or that either you didn't
study enough, you weren't paying attention on the field, you
as a coach let it slide. And I believe they
didn't play. I believe they played like they practiced offensively. Honestly,
Now I watched that defense, they played like they practiced too,
and it showed. So for me, if you let guys
(01:11:21):
keep being lazy with their hands catching balls, you'll see
balls on the ground on Sundays. You just will and
with them. So to me, it feels like the meetings
were just kind of sloppy. From their performance was sloppy,
so the meetings had to be sloppy, especially from the
mental side. Basic stuff they couldn't block, and they're too
good physically most I mean, there's good players. You give
(01:11:44):
the mental part of not knowing who to block, who
to get and how to get him. I would think
that if you're the assistant in there, you're watching saying
here's how I do stuff different one we let that slide.
But as the assistant, you can't look at the main
offensive line guy and say how you letting them get
away with that? Because you're trying to give him the respect.
Then he's your subordinate and all that. But you also
got to challenge it so we get better. That's the
(01:12:04):
only way you get better. Challenge it respectfully. I feel
that this team practice sloppy. I'm gonna guarantee you too
many times last year there practices offensively and up front
were sloppy and just kind of we'll be okay instead
of no, no, no, we're not okay. You're ass back
on the line, and here's how we're gonna do it.
And if it's the left tackle who's getting paid the most,
(01:12:24):
I'm gonna I'm gonna make sure you know because you're
even held to a higher standard. Why because our expectations,
your higher hints, your pace, you check and your stub
and that wallet you got, so I'm expecting more out
of you, not less.
Speaker 1 (01:12:37):
So you're not above it. And if you allow it
the fester I assure you this last.
Speaker 7 (01:12:43):
Week in practice, I can guarantee you North Carolina Blue
a few coverages during the practice week, guaranteed the mental
part of it, and the bill will get back to it.
They couldn't overcome that last year. But sometimes as a
as a guy, you learned and it's just like, well,
the backup quarterback. You may have a guy who's a mentor,
you may be a secon. You guy, guy's ten year
veteran in front of you, and then the ten year
veterans starts playing like the second year guy.
Speaker 1 (01:13:04):
Who's not played.
Speaker 7 (01:13:05):
So if you're the backup, I'm sitting there thinking, well,
I'm learning from the guys, not just as good stuff.
I'm learning from what not to do. I'm not making
that read verse cover two and throwing a hitch route
into a roll corner.
Speaker 1 (01:13:15):
Can't do that.
Speaker 7 (01:13:16):
So you can learn a lot, but as that understudy,
as a coach or a backup, as a player at
any position, if you're not paying attention to the guy
in front of it goes back to the old third
grade crap. Dan hey man, watch the guy taking reps
in front of you get a mental rep in. And
the sad thing about it is it holds true still
on the practice field, to thirty year old men trying
(01:13:37):
to stay on the roster, and it'll hold true to
the Texans. Sloppy practice. I guarantee you equal for the
most part. Sloppy play you allow guys to run through
knockout shots and practice it miss and they're tackling with
their head down. You know what inevitably happens, You become
a poor tackling team. Happens all the time. Watch Alabama?
Did they look disciplined to you on Saturday? It's like
(01:14:00):
a team who's not who's checked out hard to check
out in the first game of the season, and it's
so uh for whatever reason. And if you're allow it
to happen at festers and before you know it, you
can't stop it from rolling downhill and then you're chasing.
But you're chasing a ball going downhill, not uphill. It's
a problem.
Speaker 6 (01:14:18):
Well, and we'll continue the Texans offensive line at conversation
because all eyes are going to be on this one guy,
but I think you need to be looking at others.
We'll discuss that here as we close out seven o'clock
hour here on a Tuesday Sean Salisbury Show, Sports Talk
seven to ninety.
Speaker 1 (01:14:35):
This is the Sean Salisbury Show, Salisbury Show. That's beautiful.
Speaker 6 (01:14:42):
And you almost wonder too, because I heard Herbie and
Rhys Davis doing the game last night talking about this
that for TCU, it was that they still talk about
losing the Colorado a couple of years ago. That was
almost kind of a little bit of over the season, right,
Remember when you know all the hype and that team's
(01:15:02):
gonna be fired up and you don't necessarily match that
intensity and match how they play. TCU did anything but
that last night they whipped there.
Speaker 7 (01:15:11):
They did, and they had to come to Jesus after
that first series when North Carolina took it out of
scored and you're like, huh. But like anything, they got
back into Sunny. Dykes is an underrated football coach now,
I'm just telling you he is. And Kendall Browse is
a really good play caller.
Speaker 1 (01:15:29):
There. They get it, they do, and.
Speaker 7 (01:15:33):
I'm impressed with coach Dykes and he knew going in
what everybody was going to be talking about.
Speaker 1 (01:15:39):
Everybody want to see Bill.
Speaker 7 (01:15:40):
And you know what was I the tough thing and
they did a great job of it is trying to
prepare for what you had to prepare for for Belichick's team.
You had no idea what you were going to get.
Do you realize they have seventy new players or seventy
five new players on that roster. I believe it seventy
to seventy five new players on the roster.
Speaker 1 (01:15:56):
That's one.
Speaker 7 (01:15:57):
Two is you ain't saying Bill coach since he since
his old man was what to teach him about Naval
academy in college for I mean, he's been an NFL
guy for so long and you take an NFL guys
on his staff, as we've talked about from Freddie Kitchens,
who's coached both, but as a Belichick guy, and I
want to say, you know, an Alabama guy. I mean,
you're rolling through all this stuff and you're like, how
(01:16:20):
do I prepare for this? So Sunny Dyke's getting his
staff think about the tape they had to study to
try and get an idea. You're going to University of
Washington and studying Steve Belichick from how he's going to
go about it. You're going to Bill's staff and saying, okay,
combine Bill and his son Steve and their philosophy, how
they're going to attack us. And then you go and
I mean you start going around. You're saying, well, well
(01:16:40):
what about Freddie Kitchens. He was at Cleveland, he was here,
he was here, he was here, And you've named fifteen
different teams and you're studying tape from all of them
to get any idea how they're going to approach you.
Speaker 1 (01:16:49):
Are they going to be under center, are they going
to huddle? Which they did?
Speaker 7 (01:16:52):
I mean stuff that isn't your normal college the way
they're doing things at college more NFL. Yet, how you're
going to approach it offensively and defensively, which is which
was an underrated thing for me going into it, because
that's a lot of tape to watch in a short
time period of time, and think about your advance scatting,
which you had to do all summer you were working
on a hawk. We don't want the Colorado thing to
(01:17:12):
come and rear its head against us again, so how
do we prepare for it? And quite frankly, this was
even tougher to prepare than that was, because you just
had to go from Dion to Jackson State and bring
his son with him to know and then studying one
coordinator here, it's like you're studying a whole bunch of
different philosophies and all that stem back to the tunnel
that takes you back to Bill what he wants to
(01:17:32):
play defense, run and protect the football and do the
things and get out okay, and like stabment, but then
you got to adjust and so it's still an adjustment period.
But I think Sunny Dyke's is very underrated on a
national scale and is a hell of a football coach,
and he proved it last night, especially after it would
have been easy to get caught.
Speaker 1 (01:17:50):
Bill Belichick watching.
Speaker 7 (01:17:52):
As a team because you've heard it a million times
and then you went and said, no, no, no, we're
going to not only not watch it, we're going to
kick our ass.
Speaker 1 (01:17:57):
And they did that last night.
Speaker 7 (01:17:59):
And it'll be a tough film week for North Carolina
and Bill and how he approaches it with his staff
and his players, because it will be a grind on
the practice field this week for them.
Speaker 6 (01:18:08):
I was gonna say after that one, I'm sure the
film session is not going to be great. And then
probably that first practice either today or tomorrow, that's that's
not gonna be a great one. But we'll get back
into the college football conversation here next hour, because you know,
winners win, losers lose a lot of that from the
weekend that was so I we'll discuss that. But tay
(01:18:29):
Ersie gonna get his first NFL start on Sunday, as
the Texans released their unofficial depth chart, him at left tackle,
Lake and Tomlinson veteran at left guard, Jake Andrews the
center at Ingram the right guard Titus Howard. Is the
right tackle looks a little different, doesn't it. It does
look just a little bit different, But is it weird
that I'm not necessarily concerned about a rookie left tackle
(01:18:51):
more concerned about the interior.
Speaker 1 (01:18:55):
I don't think it's weird.
Speaker 7 (01:18:57):
It's a valid point, and I don't don't think they're
gonna be overly worried about him.
Speaker 1 (01:19:01):
He's gonna learn.
Speaker 7 (01:19:02):
It's gonna be tough because they're gonna move people around
and he's gonna but right off the bat, guess what
you're gonna do. You're gonna say, let's see what the
young guy's got, and they're gonna challenge that area. But
I think with a guy who's not exactly a.
Speaker 1 (01:19:13):
CJ.
Speaker 7 (01:19:14):
Stroud's feet are really good, but he's not going to cree.
I mean in the game against Georgia where he had
you know, at Ohio State and we see it a
couple times. He's a by time and throw throw throw
guy and escape win necessary and he's good at it,
but you're not gonna live with him on the edge
and RPO.
Speaker 1 (01:19:28):
That's not it.
Speaker 7 (01:19:29):
So I think always for a pocket passer in my
world that the interior people at your legs drive people crazy,
that guard center guard keeping people away.
Speaker 1 (01:19:41):
Because CJ.
Speaker 7 (01:19:42):
Strouds a North South guy climb reset and throw as
opposed to the guy who boom, doesn't see it and
escapes east west. Because they can break contain with that
great burst and they're used to the RPO reads. They'll
mix it in, but they're not using him on the
RPO run seven eight times a game, right, So yes,
well the tackle and it's now we're to the point
where both tackles matter. It's not just the left tackle
(01:20:02):
your blind side. Why because they'll put their best player
on the weakest one. If you got an edge rusher
that's any good so and a coordinator that gets it.
So yes, I always say you got to work inside out.
If the outside's sewn up and I can't climb to help,
then I'm screwed. So there is no question, especially with
this guy. Now you're talking to me about a Lamar
Jackson who can beat you from the pocket but is
(01:20:24):
so good on the edge that he's an East West
escape guy. That the tackle thing to make sure you
get him up the field and do that give him
a chance. Because the Clyde the Brady's of the world
that live that are one dimensional. You have to sew
that up. CJ is not one dimensional. But the runs
runs not that they're not going to dial up the
Josh Allen runs like they do for him for CJ.
(01:20:46):
And the interior is important and can be devastatingly bad
on your quarterback, and we saw it at times last year.
You don't want his head going to the pass rush.
And if it's bad in the interior, it's only natural.
First guy boom head goes right to the pass rush,
and if you're looking at the pass rush, you cannot read.
Speaker 1 (01:21:02):
Coverage and that's a problem.
Speaker 6 (01:21:03):
Yeah, I'm definitely hoping that you keep some of those
guys off CJ Stroud this season because he definitely didn't
do it last year. Let's get back into the Astros
conversation here as we swing over to the eight o'clock hour,
because the time is now for the Stros in what
exactly does now look like?
Speaker 1 (01:21:19):
We'll discuss Sean Salisbury show.
Speaker 7 (01:21:20):
All right, guys, I've talked to a D and M
executive and asked a simple question, because I think when
you're doing this, you want to make sure everybody feels
the same way you do about the knowledge of it
and why who's the ideal customer? Someone frustrated with luxury
card depreciation, someone trading every few years and piling up
negative equity, or someone budget conscious looking to save thirty
(01:21:43):
to forty percent on a monthly payment.
Speaker 1 (01:21:45):
His answer was all three and more.
Speaker 7 (01:21:47):
With fifty thousand active customers, D and M Leasing has
the program for you. It's D and M Leasing Leasing
is not renting, it's the smarter option. Call seven to one,
three to nine zero one thousand. That's seven one three

Speaker 1 (01:22:17):

Speaker 12 (01:22:19):
This is Sports Talk seven ninety your home for your
home teams from.
Speaker 14 (01:22:24):
The Parsons that Matchine Next Studios, Salisbury, Houston.
Speaker 11 (01:22:35):
Okay, let's do this.
Speaker 2 (01:22:37):
Sewan Salisbury, Salisbury to USC trouves, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 10 (01:22:43):
Dan Matthews, Jesus, this is the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 6 (01:22:52):
The Mariners lose to the Tampa Bay Rays, so that
means the Shows now three games up on them. The
Rangers stay four and a half game back of them.
After beating the Diamondbacks out in Arizona and the Texans
regular season game week is here. They're gonna get the
Rams Sunday in La. Seven one three, two one two five.
Seven to ninety is the number. The time is now
(01:23:14):
sean for the Astros, because you get these three games
against the Yankees, who, by the way, are a half
game better than you right now. If they were a
division leader, they would be in front of you, but
they're not. They're behind the Toronto Blue Jays. Three games here,
and then I've mentioned the Rangers. You get three up
there in Arlington over the weekend before then you get
(01:23:36):
an off day Monday, and then you take on a
team that's been one of the best in the American
League all season in the Toronto Blue Jays at their place.
And then you get the Braves there. Who I mean
at this point of the year, Brian Snicker, everybody there,
even though the season's not gone the way it has
then or the way that they wanted it to, you
(01:23:58):
better believe that they're saying, Hey, that's a competitive team
out over there. We got a chance to be able
to derail them a little bit. You bet you're ass
they're gonna try.
Speaker 7 (01:24:05):
That's three six that's twelve games of competitive baseball should be.
And think about what you got. You got a Yankees
team that's more than capable, we know that, and they're
going to be a playoff team. You've got a Rangers
team that gets it. And remember, of all, well, his
boat's gonna do you know, what's he going to do
after this year? I assure you his teams will be
(01:24:27):
ready to play. And wouldn't they love nothing else sin
to close that gap here and get within striking distance
with you know, fifteen eighteen games left. Wouldn't they love that?
And then you go to Toronto, who's gonna win the division?
More than likely you'd think they would if they continue.
So they're a playoff team, and they have been an
underachieving playoff talent team for the last handful of years.
People have always had them. Hey, last five years, they've
(01:24:49):
been the InVogue pick. Let's go, maybe not the last two.
That was Baltimore's, you know, before this year, and they've
you know, going into this season, nobody thought Baltimore is
gonna be firing a manager and being in the position
there in but Toronto's been that fashionable pick to take
like the previous three or four years, and it's like
they've always they've they've underachieved. Well, here they are now
at a time when nobody was picking them this year,
(01:25:10):
and the Toronto Blue Jays are with a chance. So
you're going, I mean, this could change really really good
in your favor, even bigger in your favor, should I say,
but change for the better? Or this can be if
you're not ready to do this thing. And my gut
tells me obviously they are. But if you're not, your
thought process and I've seen can change in a hurry
(01:25:31):
because you're not.
Speaker 2 (01:25:32):
Well.
Speaker 7 (01:25:32):
The schedule, I know you who else they get? They
get Oakland and they get Seattle. They when we say
is it favorable, Well, they're going on the road like
six games more than they're at home, and I just
think it's a danger.
Speaker 1 (01:25:46):
I think what it is? What we down to twenty
one games? And we that are we seven three games series?
Speaker 5 (01:25:50):
Is that?
Speaker 1 (01:25:50):
What is three at home?
Speaker 5 (01:25:51):
Four?
Speaker 1 (01:25:53):
Is that what it is? Seven? Is it three and five?
Speaker 5 (01:25:55):
No?
Speaker 1 (01:25:55):
That would be eight? Or is there twenty four games? Yeah?
Twenty four, so there's three.
Speaker 7 (01:25:59):
You get three more home series, including these Yankees, and
then you get fined. They're all three gamers. And then
you get five on the road, correct, So six more
games on the road is what you're getting out of this.
And we know their a depth going on the road.
But that's not an easy schedule. You can't tell them.
The Rangers are not gonna be easy. The Yankees obviously
are not easy, although the Astros know how to play them.
Speaker 1 (01:26:19):
We know what Toronto brings the table.
Speaker 7 (01:26:21):
I mean you're dealing with and the Atlanta Brads they're
not gonna fold up and go home, even though they've stroked.
They're not built like that, and they've got some players,
so it is. I mean, we talk about having to
build to it. At this stage, they're gonna need what
they got from Luis Garcia. They're gonna need Ort to
keep doing it and King. They're gonna need Craig Kimberl
to even step up and do his thing, and a
(01:26:42):
bray You to close them out. And then they're gonna
need the people to play to score more than one
or two runs, and Hunter Brown deserves more runs.
Speaker 6 (01:26:47):
You're three games back right now for a second in
the American League behind the Blue Jays, and you've got
them coming up next week, which you know obviously you've
got a couple of series in between, but I mean
you're within striking distance of them. You're only three and
a half games back in terms of division winners from
the Detroit Tigers too. So even for all of the
bad things that have happened to you this year, injuries,
(01:27:09):
struggling play in the month of August, whatever it might
have been, I mean, if you're the Astros, you have
to look at it with injured guys coming back, and
you've already gotten a good amount of them back pitching.
We'll see what happens with Hater and with Bennett Sussa.
If they're able to factor for you down the stretch.
You touched on it with Luis Garcia. I mean, if
that's a boost for you. These are things that the
Astros can look at and say, handle business. We're out
(01:27:31):
of the wildcard round.
Speaker 7 (01:27:33):
Oh there is no question which would be great for
them because I hate short series. I like it if
I win them, get it out, But I hate them
because you can have that one stub your toe moment
and then do it again five innings into the next
game and guess what you face two a good pit
You're done. It's the same way for the other teams.
You don't want to draw Hunter Brown and from Valdez,
(01:27:54):
do you.
Speaker 1 (01:27:55):
I wouldn't.
Speaker 7 (01:27:56):
I don't want to draw them because you say, man,
I don't want to be a part of that, because
there's a real good chance. You ran Detroit, they go
bingo bango and then bongos you on your way home.
Speaker 1 (01:28:03):
So I'm with you.
Speaker 7 (01:28:04):
Do everything you can to put yourself in a position.
That's why aside from and listen, too much gonna happen
to kick you out of the playoff picture. Let alone
win the division. And it's not gonna be easy, man.
And like I said, you think, oh Atlanta and that
they're not they're not the same team this year. But
I got news for you. Go ahead and mess around.
You'll find out from that Frand because they've got good talent,
(01:28:25):
and they have and they won't be out of this.
But they're kind of like Baltimore this year, you know,
And that snipper's not getting fired.
Speaker 1 (01:28:32):
But you get my point.
Speaker 7 (01:28:32):
They or they've had the stroke. They didn't live up
to the expectations that we thought. Yet you blink and
they'll you blink and they'll sweep.
Speaker 1 (01:28:39):
A series from you.
Speaker 6 (01:28:40):
Well, I mean, and even the Ones at the end
of the season, two against the A's out there in Sacramento,
and then you finish up with three in Anaheim against
the Angels. I mean those two teams at the end
of the year. The A's, they're trying to build a
foundation right now, and they already showed you they could
beat you at your home park. And then the Angels
the same deal there where they looked like they were
(01:29:02):
going to be a team that was going to compete,
and they've kind of faltered a little bit down the stretch,
but you just saw it in four games.
Speaker 1 (01:29:08):
They got a good team there too.
Speaker 7 (01:29:10):
Uh the Angels, I mean, dude, there are a couple
there are a couple bad innings away from being from
taking a series three to one. They could have swept
this series. It very easily could have swept this, no
question about it. Heading back to last week. Did the
end of the week you're exactly what they played Friday, Saturday,
Sunday money, right, So I mean the weekend?
Speaker 1 (01:29:28):
Should I say so?
Speaker 7 (01:29:29):
You're one so and we've seen at times the movie
of play down to competition, right, And the great thing
about these next you know, let's just say twelve for
the hell of it, even though like you do. You
don't waltz into Atlanta and think, oh, we're playing the
Colorado Rockies. You're not. You're not playing the Colorado Rockies,
(01:29:51):
even though they'll sneak a few away from teams. So
you gotta, I would you got to treat the Atlanta
Braze and you get that series as if you're playing
the Toronto Blue Jayson.
Speaker 5 (01:29:58):
You do.
Speaker 7 (01:29:58):
This is because if you don't, that team's good enough
to make you like to embarrass you. They're talented enough.
And then next thing you wake up and now the series,
the division's tied, and then you get to play that
team for three more. I'd like to have about a
four game lead or five game lead getting ready to
play them for three meaning Seattle, wouldn't.
Speaker 1 (01:30:15):
You it'd be nice? Yeah?
Speaker 7 (01:30:17):
And then so they finish up with the Angels too correct,
so they're back in Anaheim. I think the final three
games of the seasons fifty eight or fifty nine, sixty
sixty one, and sixty two I believe are in Anaheim.
And you saw this past week and that they can
give you a few fits. So you'd like to have
a little bit of a lead these next two weeks
are your season. I mean, that's that's effectively what it is.
(01:30:37):
This your Yeah, they got Seattle three there, Texas is
weekend there, but then you get them back here for
your last time to face them this season.
Speaker 1 (01:30:47):
And I mean that's a team too that they're not
out of this by any means.
Speaker 6 (01:30:51):
And I mean with Bruce Bochi being there, a guy
that has been able to be through division races like
this before and a chance to maybe even be able
to sneak in as a wild card because at the moment,
the Rangers are only a game and a half out
of a wildcard spot behind the Mariners.
Speaker 1 (01:31:08):
Dude, I mean, who's manage him again? Say what you want.
Speaker 7 (01:31:12):
He knows how to get the most out of him
at the right time. Last year and what year is it?
Is it an odd year? Doesn't he usually win him
in here San Francisco? But his last his last World
Series was an odd one here, So American League, he's
an odd guy, National League, he's an even guy. The
bottom line, he's won four of them as a manager,
(01:31:33):
and we know what he can get out of his
team and put at this there. Even if they don't
beat you, they're good enough to damage you enough to
disrupt the the playoff picture, injuries are not so and
a guy who's seen a million of those games, he's
pretty good at it, and he usually is a manager
as an advantage going in against most there and listen,
(01:31:54):
it's a hat fields in McCoy's too.
Speaker 1 (01:31:56):
Both of them.
Speaker 7 (01:31:57):
Neither city cares too much about the other, especially when
it comes to their sports franchises. So I uh, and
it's an underrated I think it's an underrated rivalry.
Speaker 2 (01:32:05):
I do.
Speaker 7 (01:32:06):
It doesn't get the pub everywhere else, but when it
comes to heated as far as baseball and competitive, I
love it and I can't wait to see it. But
it's going to be a three horse race all the
way through because I don't think, and we said it
all along, I don't think Texas is going away.
Speaker 1 (01:32:20):
I just don't.
Speaker 6 (01:32:21):
They don't seem like it by any means. John on
the northwest side, see you right there, get to you.

Speaker 1 (01:34:30):
The courtesy flush is always appreciated. Thank God, Thank the
good Lord.
Speaker 12 (01:34:34):
Thank you from the management team here at Sports Talk
seven nineteen Back to Sean Salisbury.
Speaker 1 (01:34:42):
Jean on the Northwest sign John Good morning.
Speaker 9 (01:34:45):
Hey guys, good morning.
Speaker 2 (01:34:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (01:34:47):
I wanted to time in a little bit on the
Astros and make another comment, but I was just wondering, uh,
what you guys think of You know, the Astros took
a flyer on ex Yankees pitcher Matt bowm And who
had a pretty good career till he had Tommy John
in twenty twenty. He's still trying to find his groove
basically when you look at what's happened since twenty twenty
(01:35:09):
after he had the surgery and everything twenty one. Excuse me,
and I just, you know, I think it could be
a good pick up. I mean, it's another experienced pitcher
that they can just take a run at. He's going
to be in the minors, but there's a good chance
he might get called up against the Yankees. So we'll
see what happens there. And then the other thing I
want to add is, Sean, I watched that Miami notre
(01:35:32):
game game. That's one of the best games I think
I've ever seen. There were some unbelievable one handed catches
in that game. I mean, it was just it was
just elite level stuff and both sides and good coaching
good players everything. So but anyways, that's about it. I
just wanted to see what you think of that lade
us move the Asters. I like what Dana Bron's doing
where he's trying to find people that he can just
(01:35:54):
plug in. You know, all we need are serviceable arms
for a bit here, especially in relief, so and that's
where I think Matt Bowman will maybe figure in. But anyways,
I'll just listen to you guys. Thanks all.
Speaker 1 (01:36:07):
I appreciate the call, John.
Speaker 6 (01:36:09):
That's one that honestly I had completely missed over the
weekend as that came down the thirtieth, So what a
couple of days ago. So Saturday, six point two zero
and twenty relief appearances with Baltimore this season, four point
three eight ERA and two hundred and thirty one career
Major league games. And he mentioned he's down there in Shirland.
(01:36:31):
I mean, I think if there's anybody else who gets
an opportunity right now, it's aj blue Ball.
Speaker 7 (01:36:36):
And for Bowman, who is an experienced pitcher, is seeing
enough baseball. What they're hoping is what they hope whenever
they bring a guy in from somebody else, is that
he elevates here and especially as a pit they usually do. Now,
the question is you're getting to the point was like
I say, some of these starters, what are you going
to do with it when all the bodies are healthy?
I mean, with seven eight starters, somebody's going to have
(01:36:58):
to go to the bullpen. But as John was talking about,
what he does give you is some some experience with
a veteran who's been in you know, in uh, who's
seen the moment. We'll see how it goes down there.
But if he does come up, it's gonna I mean,
where's he gonna fit in? You know what I'm saying.
That's the key here. And but you don't go get
(01:37:19):
him unless you think that experience is gonna matter at
some point, and especially if you're trying to you know,
save other arms that what have you. I don't know
how good he's gonna be here. The R the e
r A this year says, well, this has been a
Baltimore type year.
Speaker 1 (01:37:30):
Not very good.
Speaker 7 (01:37:31):
There's other things to judge on, but I do know
this that this team has an uncannyability that they're sitting
on the roster now making a difference that they are
an uncannyability to find that guy at some point who
comes in and gives you quality innings. Maybe Bowman is
that guy. But he's experienced and and has some of that,
and he should play better here because he's got better players.
Speaker 6 (01:37:52):
Well, I mean a possibility for it is you get
three games, then you go right into that Rangers series
before the off day on Monday.
Speaker 1 (01:38:00):
I mean, maybe a capture from it. You just don't know.
Speaker 7 (01:38:03):
But they didn't just make a move to make a move.
They sign a guy because they're hoping get a little
bit in triple A. And if we need you to
call you up for a few for some innings and
be prepared to give him to us, and it'll it'll help.
But who knows, And I don't know where the opportunity
presents itself anyway.
Speaker 6 (01:38:18):
Well, the next pocket is that nine games that you
run into or six on the road and then three
back here against the Rangers between Toronto and and the
Braves in that nine game stretch right there. I mean,
maybe that's another one. I mean, that's that's really what
it comes down to here is this was a depth
move made for if you are short on arms out there,
(01:38:41):
you send down one of the young guys more than
likely blue ball, and you.
Speaker 7 (01:38:44):
Bring him up depth and experience both that's what it
gives you. Now production will have to improve, obviously, but
that's why he's here. They saw something he wouldn't be
here and so we'll see what it does to either
rest other arms and get innings or if he becomes
somebody that you lean on in the postseason. You never know,
but he's here, and at some point nine we'll get
a look at him because he's a veteran that's logs
(01:39:04):
some innings. And the football side. Getting to Miami Notre
Dame game, really good football game, fun to watch. You
saw felt like a little old Miami Hurricanes's history there
and with the fellas on the silence, but also with
the way they finished and maybe just maybe, you know,
the Carson beckin rejuvenate his career because they had a
pretty good quarterback that he was replacing, who's the first
(01:39:25):
pick of the draft. So but I think he needed
that for him in this football team because if it
goes the other way and he's the reason they don't
win a football game, it's just like oh all over again.
Because there was a point in time when he was
really good, was a trime to be a first round
pick at Georgia. Then the injury and the way he
performed his last year there.
Speaker 1 (01:39:45):
He just was not good. And they were they were roll,
I don't want to say rolling the dice.
Speaker 7 (01:39:49):
They saw enough in him to believe and he came
through and they get the field goal and they win
a football game really good against two teams that have
big aspirations. And there are some was it fine Bomb
or somebody l who else? Somebody had Notre Dame in
the final four? Maybe it was on the set?
Speaker 1 (01:40:02):
Was it Coarso?
Speaker 6 (01:40:03):
Now I wasn't Corso as a final four? You sure
was only Corso? Maybe it was, But I know that
he picked LSU to win.
Speaker 7 (01:40:09):
Not only picked LSU, but he also picked Florida State
to beat to win their football game too, And people
are like, oh, come on, Lee, And he went out
in style like undefeated, right, took care of six or six?
He sure did, so I'm I am curious to see
both these teams won't go away Miami, but a huge
win for the program and for Carson Beck's confidence to
move to another level, because that's a huge quality win
(01:40:30):
on the opening against a team who doesn't usually beat itself,
and Notre Dame won't go away.
Speaker 1 (01:40:35):
They'll be around. Well, I mean, well coached team and
not a good quarterback.
Speaker 6 (01:40:38):
I was gonna say car showed some good things, especially
to tie it up there late. And then I mean
for Miami to nail that kick right there, it's college kickers.
So I mean even the pros sometimes can be a
little you know, wishy washing. In this case right here,
he nailed the forty seven yards. I sure did, and
it was a no doubter, and it was that that's
a huge win. But I you know, seeing the the trees,
(01:41:00):
you started thinking, three or four years down the road,
or four or four weeks down the road, who will
Carson Beck be? Because if he's average, then you can
forget it. He's gonna have to do some things and
throw his team in a position. Then the Canes did
a nice job against a well coached student and a
good defensive football team. And then it goes forward as
you're like, oh, I can count on my kicker now
(01:41:21):
inside of fifty yards, life's good. And so the collateral
part of this was even bigger than just the win
itself for the Miami program. I mean it also too,
I mean, it looked like one of those old school
in Miami atmospheres too. It was loud, it was raucous,
it was all those things. Those guys running up Michael
Irvan was running up and down the sidelines like he
was on a team. Still, Michael probably got enough energy
and eligibility, probably could have caught a few balls too.
(01:41:43):
So that is that's a prideful program that's got one
of the best. You know, over the course of about
ten or fifteen twenty years, some of the best players
in the world have waltzed into that program and changed it,
and that's been missing. They've been missing that feeling of
because it got to the point where all those I'm
not going a game like I felt to sc He's like,
who are we now? You know what I'm saying, all
(01:42:04):
this man, we've been good? Who And I think that
the program Miami has felt the same way. You go
there and you see all those stars sitting there on
the sidelines, You're like, Okay, when's it coming back? And
then it was a hope thing not And we know
because when Miami used to play, they know when they
walked in the building, they were kicking your ass.
Speaker 1 (01:42:19):
When we used to play it the same thing.
Speaker 7 (01:42:20):
We walked to the building and unless something, we were
kicking your ass, most of them, and physically, even if
we lost, you're gonna be bloodied and bruised and battered.
That's who the Hurricanes were with all that explosive talent too,
and kind of the very similar same thing. And now
it looked to me like Miami, it's Miami, Notre Dame.
I love the rivalry, by the way, it's a good
thing that we're playing that. And it looked as if
(01:42:42):
Miami felt like they knew the history of the program,
the players, and that the fellas were there. That's who
the Miami Hurricanes are. Now it's gonna be interesting to
see them sustain it. But you saw something. The quarterback
position will be heavily important, but so will just the
swagger that they always carry, and it looked like they
were going to walk with a little more of it.
Speaker 6 (01:43:00):
There's an entire generation of kids out there who you
tell them what Miami used to be and they're like,
the you what does that even mean?
Speaker 1 (01:43:07):
It's like, oh, brother, let me tell you what it
used to me.
Speaker 7 (01:43:10):
I met you were and you walked into that building
and it was first of all, you were you were,
and you get caught watching the speed and the world
of NFL talent that was on those rosters, but also
that you knew you going in there, that you get
hit in the mouth about five times, you're like, oh
my gosh. And they got three running back, you know,
Portis and Gore and and they're all the same, the
(01:43:32):
third guys better than the first. I mean, it's crazy
to unreal. I mean, everywhere you looked, Jared Peaton, there's
a Hall of College or an NFL Hall of Famer,
and it's like and they all they missed out on
a treat And I think that the it's going to
take a long time, or it feels like it's going
to take a minute to do what those guys did.
But the pride in the program, if people only knew
(01:43:53):
you go back and watch old highlights of that because
they were nasty.
Speaker 1 (01:43:56):
Well, I mean, you know that was the thing.
Speaker 6 (01:43:57):
I mean, you mentioned all the legends that were there,
Andre John and one of those guys, I mean I remembered,
I mean even ten years after he had left there,
still talking with him about, you know, the pride of
playing in that program, and he's like man, you want
to you want to talk about like a fraternity of
guys in this league.
Speaker 7 (01:44:12):
You walk on that, you walk on there, and you say, man,
I was pretty damn good. Then the next guy stand
next to him. Ooh that's Ed Reid, he's pretty good.
Oh Ray standing next to him. Oh, Michael standing next
to him.
Speaker 2 (01:44:20):
Oh.
Speaker 7 (01:44:20):
And then you get down to guys like who didn't
have Hall of Fame. Then there's Frank Gore who overcomes
two knee injuries to go on and play eight million
years in the NFL. And then put it this way,
if Frank Gore doesn't get hurt, you don't really know
much about Clinton Portison and uh Willis mcgahey, yeah, on
he was the guy she blows out a D twice
Like then these other two guys say, well, Portis mcgaye,
(01:44:41):
you're pretty frigging good.
Speaker 1 (01:44:42):
That rot.
Speaker 7 (01:44:42):
Everywhere every there's a there was somebody better. Oh yeah,
oh that guy, Oh yeah, oh yeah, he's pretty good.
Speaker 1 (01:44:47):
Oh that guy.
Speaker 7 (01:44:48):
Oh that guy. And we didn't even get to enjoy
Sean Taylor the way that we should have enjoyed him
as an NFL player, because you know, the the untimely
death for him. But the roster, just every guy. It's
like you're building to a crescendo. It's like, oh, you
could be any Testaverdy and Jim Kelly. I mean, the
list goes on and on and people don't even Brett
Perriman was a great football player. Andre Johnson, so Warren Sad,
(01:45:09):
I mean, you can't stop. And so that pride they
have in the program, What a treat it was to
watch and play. I know there are way is a way,
but just listen when you hear Miami guys talk. The
players have been disappointed in what Miami's supposed to be
and hopefully they'll get it back.
Speaker 6 (01:45:25):
Speaking of the college football weekend, winners win, losers lose,
we'll discuss here. It is the Sean Salisbury Show on

Speaker 10 (01:46:41):
The Shawn Salisbury Show continued.
Speaker 6 (01:46:45):
LSU though, going on the road to Clemson and beating
a good Clemson team that our good buddy Matt Moscona
was throwing this out afterwards of saying, it's probably the
toughest game that LSU is gonna play all season, even
with the SEC slate where you've got an Ole miss
team that's probably not as good as they were last year.
You don't have to play Texas, you don't have to
(01:47:05):
play Georgia at least until you get to Atlanta for
the SEC championship game. But I mean just from the
weekend that was where you get Alabama and boy, what
a rough look that was yesterday for Caylin de Boor
there where he was asked about the preparation last week
and he was like, yeah, preparation was good. Oh really
(01:47:26):
showed up on the field, Like, how would you like
to be number eighteen right now? The guy that people
have showed the highlight of.
Speaker 1 (01:47:34):
That was pathetic.
Speaker 7 (01:47:35):
The long town run, he'd have been sat on the setting,
he'd have been sitting on the sidelines for the rest
of the game.
Speaker 6 (01:47:40):
People had said with Saban, they're like, Saban would have
kicked him off. Saban would have said, you're done. The
lack of effort.
Speaker 7 (01:47:46):
One thing I've said on this show a million times
and I'll continue to say it again and in life,
I don't coach effort. No coach should coach effort ever, ever.
And when you're lining up on an SEC defense or
anywhere for that matter, and I got to coach effort
(01:48:06):
for you to run to the football and run through.
It was almost like he was trying to get lost
behind people on purpose so he could make the excuse
in the film room, see that guy's in my way.
I couldn't quite get to him at a bad angle.
It was pathetic. And if you got to I got
news for you. If you have to coach, buy in
an effort at this stage the bores in here.
Speaker 1 (01:48:24):
Two.
Speaker 7 (01:48:25):
And if you're still coaching, buy in. I don't care
if it's freshman, senior, sovereigns. If you're coaching, buy in
with all the stuff, like when you work on mechanics
as a player in the offseason and get yourself in
shape to be ready to hit the ground running in
training camp. If you're still coaching, buy in, I guess
what you're in. You're in trouble, dude. In that conference,
he will get They will get buried. This will not
be their last loss, I assure you this year, and
it won't be their second to the last loss. At
(01:48:47):
this at this rate, and then on the other side,
they're either going to learn real quick or they're going
to go into the tank. Secondly, coaching effort. I don't
know any coach in the world that spends time coaching.
If I got a coach effort or get a kid
to play hard, then I am doing it the wrong
way and I recruited the wrong players, honest to God.
Speaker 1 (01:49:07):
Truth.
Speaker 7 (01:49:07):
Now, like I said, another thing, Motivation's great, my speech
and all that, getting ready to go, but I got
to teach them to be disciplined, to be able to
do it every day. Motivations temporary, and you'll get the
hell knocked out of you once.
Speaker 1 (01:49:18):
I will.
Speaker 7 (01:49:18):
Hey, what if you'r TCU last night and you had
a lot of motivation going in the game and North
Carolina takes down the field, shoves it down your throat and.
Speaker 1 (01:49:25):
Scores first motivation, Oh gosh, what a bummer that was.
We're done.
Speaker 7 (01:49:30):
And then the discipline of that's one serious, Who the
hell cares? And then you go hang forty plus on
them unanswered. Well, it's the same thing here. I can
live with you getting beat and I can live with
you a tip ball mistake or you dropping a ball
physical area you were in position, took your eyes off,
and happens to every single player that's ever played. What
(01:49:50):
I can handle is the reason why you were failed
on the or made mistakes is because your lack of
effort or worn in the right place, because you weren't mentally,
you were checked out, whatever it is. And I don't know,
but watching on tape, it was putrid watching that guy play.
And it was putrid watching that effort. And if I
got a coach effort, I'd rather have a three star
(01:50:10):
with effort and the guy who knows how to play,
that's going to show up every time and play his
ass off, as opposed to the really good player who's like,
you know what, I could take a player too off
if you show it, I don't care who you are.
I'll shove that nil right where the sun don't shine
and then you'll be playing somewhere else. If I'm a coach,
I can't do it because now, and you know what
i'd do today or yesterday when they watch their tape,
(01:50:31):
I'd have Normally, you break up offense defense and go
watch the cutups and watch the full game of your position,
and then you watch the cutups during the week, but
you watch your full game with like quarterbacks are going
to a room, receivers are going into a room. Offensive
line sometimes as a team, this is the one if
I'm Kaitlin Debor, the entire team sits through and I'm
running the tape for my coordinators and we're watching the
(01:50:52):
whole tape and guess how many times I'm running that
playback and he don't even mention his name. All you
got to say is, now, look at the is this
Alabama football? And then you cut the tape off after
that showed about ten times. Well you're humiliating the player. Yeah,
and he humiliated ten other players, and the collateral that
(01:51:13):
showed from that, it's on you. It wasn't a mistake
that I'd showed because you've just made a physical air
going one hundred miles an hour. If you hit the
wrong guy going one hundred miles an hour, I'm okay
with it. Just don't do it thirty times. That means
you just don't get it. You don't understand concepts. But
I'll always take a guy who's running through people doing
all that.
Speaker 1 (01:51:31):
But I can't play a guy now. Maybe it was
one of those plays one of those days.
Speaker 7 (01:51:36):
But I saw they loafed two dozen times in the
game constantly, and I may be cheating them, I mean constantly,
and like, where's that come from. It's got to be
buying to Kaitlin the boor, You've got to get more
effort at you. But I shouldn't have to coach it.
Speaker 1 (01:51:51):
You should go.
Speaker 7 (01:51:52):
They should know going in the one thing we will
not replace. We're gonna play smart football, and we're gonna
the effort we shouldn't have to worry about.
Speaker 1 (01:51:58):
And they didn't do either.
Speaker 7 (01:52:00):
They didn't play smart football, and their effort looked putrid.
Well he epitomized it and he would be in the
meeting room and I would show that and I wouldn't
have to say a word.
Speaker 1 (01:52:09):
Florida to play.
Speaker 6 (01:52:10):
Florida State two was kneeling and somebody posted a cut
up of it. Looked like a couple of players were laughing. Well,
a long way from when Nick Saban was there. It's
along to say.
Speaker 7 (01:52:21):
And you know what, so if Caylen de Bor, if
you're gonna if you if you're on borrowed time right
now and you're on a short leash, make sure you
max out what you get out of them, and because
those same guys that are laughing at you, you might
set them down and see how that and how that
figures into their NIL and their transfer portal. Because it's
not just the coach and it's not just the players,
but the combination right now looks more like a mid
(01:52:45):
level a mid level power for school as opposed to
a powerhouse here in the studio. Now you know why
Vanderbilt beat him. Yeah, I was just doing the motion
of passing the hat around. It is an LSU one,
so I don't think they'd be passing around an LSU hat.
But you got to wonder if at least the conversations
of hey, somebody get a hat together is starting to
happen with some of the big money there at Alabama
(01:53:07):
where they're like seventy million for this guy to go away,
and it might be worth it for us. If they
continue to play like this, we won't They won't need
a hat, they won't take.
Speaker 1 (01:53:18):
The time to pass that.
Speaker 6 (01:53:19):
They'll be there, the wire transfers a plenty, they'll be done,
and his ATM will still be full because there's a
lot of money in it.
Speaker 7 (01:53:26):
But unfortunately, I know this sounds crazy. Is Alabama? Is
the stage too big for them? I don't know, but
it's always a mistake. I hate to say it. You
don't want to be Jean Bartow replacing John Wooden.
Speaker 5 (01:53:41):
You do not.
Speaker 7 (01:53:42):
You're fortunate it was Hubert Davis to be able to
to replace Mike Ryzewski and go win. Then Hubert Davis
won a national title. Hubert replaced Roy Well, that's right,
that's right. Yeah, Oh, that's right. In North Carolina, that's right,
and then with and won the title?
Speaker 3 (01:53:55):
Right?
Speaker 1 (01:53:55):
Did they win or get beat? Was that was he
did he coach?
Speaker 7 (01:54:01):
Let's see, I'm just trying to figure North Carolina they
got to the final got beat or was it the
final four?
Speaker 1 (01:54:06):
Regardless?
Speaker 7 (01:54:06):
Yeah, he's he's at North Carolina and he but the
duke same thing, yea yeah. If if you're John Shire,
you replaced Mike Ryzewski. Although they've had success, it's hard
to replace the guy after the guy. I mean, Indiana
has had their struggles in Indiana basketball, Bob. They've've been
good at times, but I'm talking about the history of
the program, and so you know, it didn't work real
(01:54:27):
well for girod mao. Did it tough I'm not saying
he can't. He may be a really good football coach.
Kaylyn de Boor was great at Washington, but you're replacing Saban,
replacing the guy after the guy's hard. Now the next
guy simple path, because then everything you do well will
be highlighted.
Speaker 1 (01:54:44):
Look see but.
Speaker 7 (01:54:47):
Rable timed it perfect. Okay, New England. But if you're
Kaitlyn the Boor, how do you pass it up? But
it looks like, Uh, don't let Alabama get into this
mode where you're looking for You're looking for the next
Nick Saban. I think they thought they had it. But
I can take you getting beat by somebody better. I
can't take a team that doesn't play hard. And that
is a reflection of the coach going in. But it's
(01:55:09):
not just him. They look like they look overwhelmed, and
he looks a little bit wompy job himself. And he
was a hell of a coach at Washington. But no
offense to Washington played against a great program. It's different
than it is the expectation now replacing Nick Saban and Alabama,
it's just not the same.
Speaker 6 (01:55:26):
You don't step out your door in Tuscaloosa right now.
If you're him you do that and do not make excuses.
New it will not end with making excuses.
Speaker 7 (01:55:35):
The act just to Grin and Barrett take the blame
and and quite frankly, start replacing guys right off.
Speaker 1 (01:55:40):
That's been one game.
Speaker 7 (01:55:41):
But if they're not gonna give effort x's and those
mistakes I get effort, then you're gonna go over.
Speaker 1 (01:55:46):
You're gonna hand the gatorade to the guy who is
giving me effort.
Speaker 6 (01:55:49):
Speaking of the college football weekend, this guy.
Speaker 1 (01:55:51):
Had all the praise. Now he is getting all the blame.
Speaker 6 (01:55:54):
We'll discuss it is the Sean Salisbury Show here on
a Tuesday Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 7 (01:55:59):
All right, guys, I've talked to a D and M
executive and asked a simple question, because I think when
you're doing this, you want to make sure everybody feels
the same way you do about the knowledge of it.
And why who's the ideal customer? Someone frustrated with luxury
card depreciation, someone trading every few years and piling up
negative equity, or someone budget conscious looking to save thirty
(01:56:19):
to forty percent on a monthly payment.
Speaker 1 (01:56:21):
His answer was all three and more.
Speaker 7 (01:56:23):
With fifty thousand active customers, D and M Leasing has
the program for you. It's dn M Leasing Leasing is
not renting. It's the smarter option. Call seven one three
two nine zero one thousand. That's seven one three two
nine zero one thousand, or visit dnm audo Leasing at
dmauto leasing dot com. That's dmaudoleasing dot com.
Speaker 10 (01:56:45):
Sean Salisbury show continues to continue.
Speaker 1 (01:56:49):
Yes, I mean, now it's like it's like you're you're
running out of words. It's just howl like a wolf.
Speaker 7 (01:56:55):
Yeah, it's not like we're here, you know here Louis
Armstrong City. What's his famous cut? What's that song called?
Speaker 1 (01:57:07):
Oh yeah, Wonderful Life? I think that is that what
it is?
Speaker 7 (01:57:16):
I mean, it ain't like where Wolves of London is
going to touch that when it comes to vocals and
get you into your feels. But somebody loved it and
Warren's Yvon probably printed for checks and that's it.
Speaker 6 (01:57:27):
It still sticks around. Well, we might have just made
him some money there, So w Z if you're still
with us, well then there you go. Stros Beat the
Angels eight three, split up that series. Now the the
Yankees come to town for three starting tonight. You get
a good one on the mound too. You get fromber
against Max Freed, so settle in for that one. And
the Mariners now three games back after losing to the
(01:57:48):
Rays last night. But the Rangers beat the Diamondbacks, so
they are right on your tail. But talking a little
bit of Arch Manning here for we expect to have
Gordy in here for his two Tuesday visit. Let's bring
on Adrian. Adrian wants to talk some arch. What's going on? Adrian?
Speaker 5 (01:58:08):
Talk from Art? Yeah, the arch in McDonald's only Arch.
I'm talking about all this last week, all this the
week before Arch Arch, Arch Arch. How Texas is gonna Arch? Alright, alright, alright,
how Texans is gonna where's all that talk this morning?
I ain't heard nothing from Steven a. ESPN. Don't even
know who he is. Hold let's just put that on hold.
(01:58:35):
Just because the last name's Manny, don't mean that Jean's there.
Let's hold off on the Manning hype people. How about
their Maggie. Now, one of this so called baseball team
one the eleven with runners in scoring position.
Speaker 1 (01:58:55):
One eleven.
Speaker 5 (01:58:57):
We're not talking one point eleven as then you know
the baton average for goals that are with power one eleven.
That's one every five seven eight men and running in
scoring position really goes bout us, really, and you don't
(01:59:17):
know how to do something with this. Hey you what,
you're running out of time. And I really hope it
comes down to the last week where we got a
three team race, because we'll see who's drag and who's
go back up best word of today place no political
news there.
Speaker 1 (01:59:38):
You go from a holiday weekend.
Speaker 6 (01:59:40):
Usually we're all pretty much in a good mood on
a Tuesday, but you know, we can get into a
little bit of arch and also too obviously astros when
Gordy hops on with us. But I mean with the
art stuff, just really quick here, Sean. I mean, I
just it cracks me up every single time this happens.
And I knew that it was going to happen. That's
why it's throughout the tweet that I did after Saturday
(02:00:02):
of you can't go from this guy's gonna be one
of the greatest of all time and then one bad
performance against the defending national champions on their home field
and say that, oh he was overrated all the time,
Like that's that's not how this works. We still have
the tweets we still have the predictions. We still have
them all. We see them all there. If you're going
to backtrack that quickly, then it's telling on you. You're
(02:00:22):
telling on yourself one of two things. Either you don't
know what you're watching or you just throwing words out
there that you don't truly believe.
Speaker 7 (02:00:29):
Listen, anybody with that hype wouldn't have lived up to it.
It doesn't matter if he'd have gone eighteen to twenty
four for two hundred and eighty yards and two touchdowns,
would you have still said, oh, really good performance at
Ohio stated man can't wait till he actually reaches his potential.
That's what the thought which it was. It was near impossible.
Now it doesn't sell. It's not yet right, and it's
(02:00:50):
not making excuses for him at all. He did not
play well. He made some great throws down the stretch,
and ironic or plan, the more aggressive they became offensively,
the better he was. Keep that in mind as we
move forward. Arch Manning's going to be a good player.
Will he win the Heisman trophies? Are gonna win a
national champions We're going to be the first pick of
(02:01:12):
the draft.
Speaker 1 (02:01:12):
I don't know.
Speaker 7 (02:01:13):
I'm more concerned with how he got to the result
than the result that side, the ball coming outside Army's
bouncing balls. The accuracy in the first game concerned me
on open easy throws, the heart throw. Hell, he made
some really good ones, but the late throw on the
pick on the right sideline, the opening throw that he
threw the like the eighteen yard saled cross. I can't
(02:01:34):
remember what body if he was coming from the play
side slot of the opposite side, but he yanked it
in the ground side. Go back and watch his mechanics
and armslought does matter. Now you can make great throws
and be Matt Stafford and carve out a phenomenal career.
But young, I always just it's the accuracy and the
mechanics of making this simple throw. Well all the time
(02:01:56):
I say it, But look, go back and watch all
the top quarterbacks in the country this week and right,
But also watch how you know, making this simple play
becomes a little bubble screen, a hitch route, a slant
thrown behind two plays at the end, hit one on
the back shoulder and tries to reach back and get it.
Speaker 1 (02:02:14):
You just those throws.
Speaker 7 (02:02:16):
I think arch Maning is going to be a fine
player and I think it's ridiculous to put him in
the Hall of Fame and give him all that hype.
And also but it comes with the territory. He can't
pout about it. He's a Manning. That's the way it is.
It's why you get nil money and why you're a
good player and get recruited high and you're at Texas.
Crap happens, just like just like Sark deserves some criticism
for it as well. I thought he missed out on
some aggressive stuff with the legs for arch Manning early
(02:02:38):
in the game. That beings because that's a big strength,
is a two dimensional part. But arch Manning has got
to become more accurate and got to be more sound
under duress. Does that mean he can't play or it's
not going to change. Of course, it doesn't mean that.
And that's why I stayed off social media the whole
time for the most part this week in ninety five
percent time is because you just can't. You can't crown
Hi yet it takes a while. This is a hard position.
(02:03:00):
That being said, he deserves criticism and he knows it.
He missthrows that he won't miss four weeks from now
and if he does. That's a problem. The simple play's
got to be made more by him. But anybody that
quits on arch Manning's making a huge mistake.
Speaker 6 (02:03:12):
So tom of the Week, Gordy Courtesy at Carback Brewing,
hopping on with us right here, Sean Salisbury show.
Speaker 7 (02:03:18):
I am a dip guy, you say, Sean will kind Well,
I can tell you what kind of dip.
Speaker 1 (02:03:24):
Daisy French onion dip and the daisy ranch dip, now
I am.
Speaker 7 (02:03:28):
I'm like the finger food appetizer chips, you know, throw
a fredo in their chips to get the dips. Sometimes
to the point, on college game day or during Saturdays
studies get up put the spread. It always has the
daisy French onion dip or the daisy ranch tip. Was
in the local grocery store over the weekend picking it up,
and why because well, the other food's fine and dandy
(02:03:49):
later in the day, but in order to get you through.
Speaker 1 (02:03:51):
And don't you do it on holidays too. You do
it on Labor Day, you do it on holidays. You
do it sports and it's sports season.
Speaker 7 (02:03:56):
This is this is daisy french onion dip ranch dip
time a year, right and now it comes out with
this delicious French onion dip as an obsession of mine.
Speaker 1 (02:04:06):
They are delicious as homemade dip.
Speaker 7 (02:04:08):
You can add whatever you want to be you won't
need to because they got the real rbs and.
Speaker 1 (02:04:11):
Spices and the other ingredients you'd find in your own kitchen.
But they're doing it for you.
Speaker 7 (02:04:15):
Pop on into your local grocery store and find out
what I already know and have known. And I'm grateful
to be part of this where I get to well
spend my college football Saturday and Sundays or any other
day of the week doing what really is the strength
of a meal, my chips and dips, and it's Daisy
French onion dip and Daisy ranch dip. I can go
(02:04:36):
to myfrigerator and take a picture. You'll see it now,
visualize it, and then go out and do it. Get
to your local grocery store and look for Daisy French
onion dip at a grocery store near you.
Speaker 5 (02:04:48):
Houston.
Speaker 12 (02:04:50):
Houston an iHeartRadio station, the Rocket Sports Talk seven ninety
your home for your home teams from the Parsons that
Matchine Next Studios. Right right now on seven ninety You're
shot at a trip to Hour twenty twenty five Ihearts
(02:05:11):
Radio Music Festival. Just text this nationwide keyword Vegas to
two hundred two hundred. You look at a confirmation text
at infos standard Data message rates applying this nation white
contest text.
Speaker 1 (02:05:22):
Vegas to two hundred two hundred. The Rangers keep winning.
Speaker 6 (02:05:26):
They're five games above, five hundred four and a half
games back of you now and also talking some college
football from the weekend that was. That's where we'll start
the conversation here, Gordy, because you get the performance by
Texas on Saturday, a game you heard right here on
Sports Talk seven ninety. You'll have another one too, a
noon kick on Saturday against San Jose State. It will
(02:05:47):
probably be a full building just because it's the home opener.
But after you come off with that and you go
out there, how hot it is, probably canna have a
lot of Texas fans that.
Speaker 1 (02:05:55):
Are like, eh, I'll just stay back and watch this one.
Speaker 11 (02:05:58):
Well, I think you're gonna get And I heard you
guys talking about Sean you know knows better than any
than anybody. The problem is that arch Manning was facing
in his in his debut. But you know the way
the schedule sets up, Texas gets to come back home,
you get San Jose State, UTEP in Sam Houston the
next three weeks, then you get a bye, then you're
at Florida. So you got a month to get arch
Manning ready. Look, the defense is was was fine. I
(02:06:19):
didn't have a problem with how the defense played. I
thought the run game was decent for Texas, So it's
all leaned on that. Even more arches leg probably, yeah,
but I just think arch it was just it was
a lot of nerves.
Speaker 5 (02:06:31):
It was.
Speaker 11 (02:06:31):
It sucks that that's the game right out of the gates.
And I think, you know, I think teams are going
to look at this a little bit more and go gosh,
opening the season, these these games are so fun week one.
But look at Oklahoma. They opened with Illinois State and
now they get Michigan.
Speaker 1 (02:06:45):
In week two and they're raving about John Myttiers performance.
Speaker 11 (02:06:48):
You're gonna see a much better prepared Oklahoma team this
week than if they played Michigan in Week one with
a new quarterback. So I just think that that's that's
the challenges. Look, that was a hostile environment, tough road environment.
The easy thing. And I said this last week. It's
easy to overreact. All Art sucks, Texas overrated, drop him down.
This team's got a lot of season left. They're gonna
(02:07:09):
get better. Arts is gonna get better. He's not gonna
look like that every week.
Speaker 7 (02:07:12):
Yeah, And the hardest thing to do is go back
the next day and be self critic. It's hard to do,
but you got to. And he will listen. One thing
you know that he will prepare because if he lets
this game define him, then then this festers into they
beat their next opponent by seven or ten points and
they struggle. That defense is real. They can run the football,
(02:07:34):
they're physical, and a guy that we all think listen,
you don't have that many experts in football, from that
Manning family to Steve Sarkizi into going out and recruiting,
and anybody that's watched him play throughout the years, from
your guy at Oarzaron all the way through that. You
just automatical think, oh the guy sucks. The hype the hype,
but the hype didn't come from him. He didn't stand
up there and say, men, I want you guys knowing
(02:07:54):
the greatest fall time it's all been created because the
last name in his high school performance and how he
was raised right to be in this position.
Speaker 1 (02:08:01):
But there's still no excuses.
Speaker 7 (02:08:02):
He's got to play better and the mechanics under duress
are going to be a problem if they don't get fixed.
Speaker 1 (02:08:07):
They have got to get better.
Speaker 7 (02:08:09):
And he's got to play better at a dress and
there's going to be plenty more games where he's going
to get the opportunity to do that. But we are
such a knee jerk society on the position. It ain't easy.
And I know how it is to come out of
your first performance, and I still say first start against
a hostile opponent. Does that make sense for arch manning
third start? Ever, I've told you this before my first start.
(02:08:31):
You come out it and it was brutal and tough,
and it was you had to fight and scratch for
every yard against a great Florida defense and the best
defensive player I saw in my life in a game
in Wilbur Marshall. But then we went on a seven
game run boom boom boom before I shredded money, so
we became one of the hottest offense in the league.
And I could have played better in the first game.
(02:08:51):
I did some good things, but there's ah, you missed
that thrower, you stepped into a sack. You should have
got the rear of the ball quicker, or held on
to it a little longer, and you learn those valuables less.
And I'd played as a freshman as a backup. I played,
I got snaps and played in games. But it's still
you still aren't really ready until you see the light
switch go on in that and arch Manning will face it.
(02:09:12):
And I was as a five star. Everybody was over
the expectations, and we were on the road at two
top ten teams or top fifteen teams, and they got
the best of us. We got them the next year
back at our body. But from that, guess what, you'll
learn to see things a little quicker, Gordon and he will.
Speaker 11 (02:09:26):
One other thing that Sarks said, too, is that they
didn't even play any of their true freshmen in wide receivers.
All these four star and five star talent. He said,
we weren't going to test them against Ohio State Secondary.
Speaker 1 (02:09:37):
We just weren't.
Speaker 11 (02:09:38):
These next three games against cupcakes at home, they're going
to get those young freshmen Jamie French and Dylan McCutcheon
and Khalie Lockett. These young talented freshmen, tell you what,
they break out, they develop a little chemistry with Arch.
Watch out because Arch is going to get more comfortable.
They got stud talent all up and down that roster.
So yeah, it's a little bit over reaction, Jackson. I mean,
look at last year. A and M opens with note game,
(02:10:00):
lose at home. What everybody say, uh, Elko not great?
Then what by down the stretch of the season, they're
they're leading the SEC. They went into the game against
Texas literally they win that game. They're going to Atlanta
to you know, play for an SEC title and they
will always have good defense with him coaching. Yeah, yes, LSU.
Two years ago they lose the open of Florida State.
Everybody Brian Kelly sucks, Jade Daniels overrated. By the end
of the year, Jay Davis won the Heisman and l
(02:10:21):
she won the SEC West and went and played for
a title. So don't overreact to what we saw week one.
It doesn't set it doesn't you know. This isn't the
bar all season.
Speaker 7 (02:10:30):
And six top ten teams get beat this week. I
think so, I say that's six top ten teams.
Speaker 11 (02:10:34):
I believe some of the highest paid coaches in college
football guys, right, and.
Speaker 1 (02:10:38):
You know who else sucks?
Speaker 7 (02:10:38):
They say Clemson's awful, right, and Club Nick can't play,
you know, Arches, I mean they're not.
Speaker 1 (02:10:43):
I got news for you. Six weeks from now, we'll
be talking.
Speaker 5 (02:10:47):
Now.
Speaker 7 (02:10:47):
You look at North Carolina, that may be a little
different because they don't quite have the talent. You may
see a lot of what you saw last night. But
with Texas, and I got news for you. Come late November,
both Clemson and the University of Texas will be sitting
in a position to make the playoff.
Speaker 1 (02:11:02):
They just will. And how their quarterback goes is going
to be a big part of it. I would stay.
Speaker 7 (02:11:07):
If I'm a futures bet, I would suggest that Arch
and Club Nick are both going to play a lot better.
Speaker 11 (02:11:12):
Yeah, if I can say those thousand bucks right now
and said you could put it on either Arch figures
it out or he doesn't, and he's a bust to.
Speaker 1 (02:11:17):
Give figures it out.
Speaker 7 (02:11:20):
Yeah, and then without and I wouldn't even think twice
walking to the table or the window.
Speaker 6 (02:11:24):
Well, and you brought up a good point too, I mean,
because it's one of those that for the fans, it
sucks to feel like, oh, the hype was not met.
But then for him it's probably a all right, take
a step back, a chance against some lesser opponents here,
and then, as you mentioned before, you get an sec play,
you get that week off to further prepare.
Speaker 11 (02:11:45):
Yeah, I think I think this goes back to what
I kind of said about Arch coming a seasonless. He's
going to go through his ups and downs. It's gonna
be a roller coaster. But this thing sets up for
if he were turns in twenty twenty six, he will
be the perennial preseason Heisman favorite. Texas will be the
reseason favorite to win the championship. All this stuff going
into twenty twenty six, just like we'll put the cart
(02:12:05):
before the horse. We got to see more out of
him first, let him develop.
Speaker 7 (02:12:09):
One thing I can guarantee you he won't approach next
week the way we're talking about it now. Oh Pa,
He'll go back to work and do his thing, because
if he thought like social media did, he'd just quit
and walk away and never play again. Okay, he was like, oh,
I guess my career is over. I had a game
against the reigning national champion and a defense. It's pretty
friggin good, and Patricia had a great plan. He just
(02:12:32):
missthrows that he'd normally make with one eye open. His
mechanics with his lower half weren't good, and his armslot
was not good. Now he'll make some great throws, but
when you're playing against Michigan, LSU, Southern cal Ohio State,
the teams that run to the foot, but Notre Dame,
the windows are those windows aren't going to get any
bigger than he missed. And he knows that most of
(02:12:53):
the time he'll make him. But you go back and
watch it, you're gonna see mechanics under duress were a problem,
but he'll get it figured out.
Speaker 1 (02:13:00):
Understand study and.
Speaker 11 (02:13:01):
The defense, they said they Patricia did a great job
diskuis and coverages, having guys show bullets drop out, you know,
like all those things that a young, inexperienced quarterback battles
with and.
Speaker 7 (02:13:11):
All those things that college defenses don't do a lot
of the over disguising. That's a Sunday thing. That's why
I told you Belichick's guys trying to get guys. Do
you do you start coaching the NFL? You like they're
thinking too much and can't react Patricia's guys were acting.
It felt like he kept it simple enough for them
to understand, but complex enough to the You always wanted
to look complex to the quarterback, but simple for your
(02:13:32):
guys to execute. It's the same way on offense. You
want to create this oh my gosh, when it's really
you're just doing your same thing from a different round.
Stark was very concerned his first half.
Speaker 1 (02:13:42):
I didn't think of that.
Speaker 11 (02:13:43):
I mean, look, you got I would got to a
certain point. I'm like, take a shot. Take a shot
if they if you don't complete the past, you don't
complete it. But take a show. If you can't show
you can stretch the field, then they're just gonna keep
playing underneath.
Speaker 7 (02:13:54):
And you know when he got interviewed before the game
on the sidelines and I know it said he asked
me in about arch and doing it. Wh he goes, hey,
we'll go through this, He'll be fine. But he's prepared
for this and we're just gonna let it rip. That
was his last friend, and he did not let it rip.
For the first half. He played not to lose as
opposed to attack to win. It was almost a feeling
out situation, which I get Patricia the whole thing. But
(02:14:15):
I assure you you will see a much more aggressive
team under Durest the next time they play a good team.
You got time to stick around for a little bit.
Yeah all right, So one more quick little college football thing.
Let's get in some astros again. It's a Tuesday. Chris
Gordy courtesy at Carbock Brewing. Right here, Sean Salisbury show
Sports Talk seven ninety Hey, Sean Salisbury Here for Country
Boys Roofing country with the K Boys with a Z.
(02:14:38):
Countryboysroofing dot Com is where you go. No price gouging,
military first responders, educators, one five hundred dollars off and

have somebody who's transparent, cares and you can trust. It
(02:14:59):
is Country Boys Roofing, Proud members of the Better Business Bureau.
Countryboysroofing dot Com, h.
Speaker 12 (02:15:05):
Towns most Complete Breakfast Kolaches, breakfast Tacos and Sean Salisbury Steak.
Speaker 1 (02:15:14):
Don't forget to book a few air holes.
Speaker 10 (02:15:16):
You'll be cleaning that.
Speaker 1 (02:15:17):
Microwave, trust me.
Speaker 12 (02:15:20):
More, Sean Right now, on Sports Talk seven ninety did
a little bit of the winners and losers earlier, and
we really focused on the Alabama loss to Florida State.
Speaker 6 (02:15:31):
Yeah, definitely one of the losers. Probably gotta throw North
Carolina in there from last night. I mean, you know,
then again we got Skip Bayless and Colin Cowhard telling
us that you know, Bill Belichick's got them prime for
greatness there at UNC seeals.
Speaker 11 (02:15:43):
Week is weak sauce, Like you know, you just thought, okay,
they can get the ten wins, that they're somewhat competent.
But god, the go Lopez kids from South Alabama. For
as much as the hyped him, man he was and
maybe someone was on the play calling. Maybe is there
a way guys that get Matt Patricia run the defense
for Ohio State on Saturdays and then later in the
afternoon you can go call offense for for Belichick at
(02:16:05):
at North Carolina.
Speaker 1 (02:16:07):
No mean he did both.
Speaker 7 (02:16:09):
Yeah, yeah, now you know what, I'll We're going to
stop right at the defensive thing for Matt Patricia. We
don't want to, boy, not let him go there, because
I assure you the offense ain't gonna get any better
if Matt's calling it on offense. But he sure knows
how to tack a defense. And one thing that's not
a hidden note. Everybody knows this, but it was relevant
this weekend is that four new offensive linemen in a
(02:16:30):
very difficult conference is hard to replace. And University of Texas,
of all the great players they have, no matter how
good the recruits are, that that's a difficult replacement and
so they've got to grow into it as well as
witness Cordy by the last play, a three man rush
you got you can't let three men rush pressure. The
right tackle looked inside. He didn't even get a hand
on the outside edge rusher that forced the throw, the catch,
(02:16:52):
the tackle ball game over, didn't get a chance to
get read through it because he hit the right tackle,
didn't put a hand on number eleven when he came
off the edge.
Speaker 1 (02:17:00):
Not one.
Speaker 7 (02:17:01):
That's just simple. Four new guys trying to find continuity.
They're going to get a chance the next three weeks
to get.
Speaker 5 (02:17:06):
It for sure.
Speaker 6 (02:17:09):
I mean, and you know, we talked a little bit
about LSU winning this weekend, and that was a game
you got to hear here on our family of stations.
But I mean looks like Brian Kelly, you know, with
Maxonsmeyer back and.
Speaker 11 (02:17:21):
That massive when because in this twelve team playoff era,
we know now you can two losses is fine, and
maybe even three if you played a brutal schedule. But
getting that win in week one now for LSU opens up.
They can lose at All Miss, they could lose at Alabama.
You're fine if they win one of those. You could
lose at Oklahoma in the final week. You could lose
(02:17:43):
at home to A and M, which they haven't done
since Aggie's have been in the conference. But you know,
so it buys you two losses. So yeah, it's they're
in a great spot again. I think Texas still we're
gonna hear from them before this is all said and done.
Alabama thing is interesting because I just think they were
in an impossible spot. They went into a hornet's nest
of Florida State. And I said it last week. I
(02:18:04):
said this that all new offensive line, it's a new quarterback,
it's a whole new receiver room. That said is not
to and ten Florida State. Yet people in ten. Florida State,
they suck. No Mike Norvel can coach. Two seasons ago
he won double digit wins. Guy can still coach. You
didn't forget how to coach one season. He just had
terrible players.
Speaker 1 (02:18:20):
DJU.
Speaker 11 (02:18:20):
Sorry, bro, you can't play Thomas Castellanos. He could play.
Speaker 7 (02:18:24):
Yeah, we've seen the experiment since the game at Notre
Dame when he backed up Trevor Lawrence Louis Angalele was
a just a guy at Oregon State, everywhere he went,
he was just a guy. And by the time he
got to Florida State, quite frankly, the name got him
(02:18:44):
the job.
Speaker 5 (02:18:45):
He is not.
Speaker 7 (02:18:45):
He was not a good player. I don't mean it disrespectful,
good kid, I get it all. He just wasn't And
that was that. You look what the quarterback did the
year before, pretty damn good. That that position is so
precious and important, and you get a guy Mike Norvel
did not forget how to coach. They just weren't very good.
Florida State ain't gonna go They're They're gonna They're gonna
(02:19:07):
be a player in this and the confidence they're gonna
get from that first win is gonna be huge. Yet,
maybe Alabama's not as good as we think. But the
buy and the loafs and stuff were brutal watching.
Speaker 5 (02:19:17):
It was brutal.
Speaker 1 (02:19:18):
Yeah, it was. I mean it was just a rough watch.
I mean we were talking about it. The one guy
loafing on the touchdown run.
Speaker 6 (02:19:24):
You got a couple of guys who look like they're
laughing as Florida State's kneeling down on the ball. I mean, boy, Gordy,
not good for Kaylin Debor right now. In terms of
inspiring confidence, Well.
Speaker 11 (02:19:34):
It's funny. I'm my Lockdown SEC show. We kicked around
the idea. Look, it was a joke a few weeks ago,
but it's one that could really be a reality if
they decide to buy out the boor could Saban come
back for one more year? Yes, Look, it's all you're
asking him to do. You're not asking him to recruit
and buy, pay nil and all that. That's what the
GM's are for now. But if Saba came in just
(02:19:56):
the light of fire under some people's ass and get
them to play Morts barred football because that was embarrassing on.
Speaker 7 (02:20:02):
Saturday and Saturday Saturdays, i mean college game day, they'll
be there for him. When he wants to come back. Yeah,
there's no doubt. And I'm not sure there's no other
college job he's coming back for.
Speaker 1 (02:20:11):
I can see that.
Speaker 7 (02:20:13):
You come back and boy, right now, you come in
there with your cape on, come back there to save Alabama.
Who are the best three teams in the country this
past week, and you saw LSU obviously at the top
of the list.
Speaker 11 (02:20:22):
Yeah, I think you got to give them credit. Figured
it out. Yes, you ain't saying they'll figure out. I
mean again, they this. You get two losses, so even
if they lose their two toughest games, Ohio State's gonna
win the other ten and they'll be right there. I
think Clemson's still bounces. I still think Clemson's a good team.
I think club Nick just got you know, one of
(02:20:42):
their best receivers left the game early. Can't do anything
about that. And LSU just pin their ears back. And Miami,
Miami was impressive, Miami was good. But I just every
time I give Crystal Ball credit, he disappoints it. Right,
there's some late game debackle, some game where they just
don't show up.
Speaker 7 (02:21:00):
Somebody who's not supposed to beat them. Their heavy favorites,
they get beat.
Speaker 1 (02:21:02):
Yeah, I know the game.
Speaker 11 (02:21:03):
Again another one. Don't count them out. They're still They
got a chance to regroup here, young quarterbacks, young inexperienced
quarterbacks learning on the job this past week in hostile environments.
I think there's a chance car Ty Simpson all rebounding
get better as the year goes along.
Speaker 1 (02:21:18):
No doubt, no doubt, real quick.
Speaker 6 (02:21:20):
Here the shows I was encouraging yesterday the bat six
for fifteen runners in scoring position was.
Speaker 11 (02:21:26):
Bad out inning for Garcia, though, with the home running
balls like that, I just wish if you could take
that away, man, it would have been a perfect day.
Speaker 1 (02:21:34):
Yeah what a secret, huh?
Speaker 11 (02:21:35):
I mean, but that was Sean. You're talking two and
a half years basically, I know two and a half
years down on the mound. And I saw an article
that his mom from Venezuela came up and she got
to see him for the first time in an MLB game,
So I'm sure he had a little bit extra.
Speaker 1 (02:21:50):
I thought he was impressive. Yeah, I really did.
Speaker 7 (02:21:53):
Strikes and keeping his stick get to have a chance,
and being able to overcome a bad inning. I was
really impressed with this is gonna be This is a
huge get. If this is who you're gonna get because
he's only gonna get better as he sees it. But
that was I did not expect him to go six
things and I did not expect that performance in his
first time.
Speaker 11 (02:22:10):
But Dana Brown and this will make some tough decisions
for Dana Brown and Joe Spotted. They basically have the
next month, here's here's what you got. The next month
you got you gotta find your best lineup? Yep, who's
my best hitters? Who's gonna get hot? When you're fighting
for a division race? We're still got. We're still gotta
win AO West, Like, still gotta punch our ticket to
the playoffs. But then three, figure out who's gonna be
(02:22:31):
my guys in the postseason. Who's my arms I can
rely on? And still Phil Toona Brown and Fromber at
the top, But who are gonna be those other guys?
Speaker 7 (02:22:38):
And who is the starter or two that are gonna
end up giving me innings in the bullpen?
Speaker 11 (02:22:43):
Yeah, and mccullor's on Sunday, his first relief inning was great,
then the second inning it wasn't. And I said it
on the post game show Sunday. I get he's a
highly paid guy. But you know what, what if I
just asked.
Speaker 7 (02:22:56):
Him give me be one inning at a time, Gordy
right now, I don't think you can add to get
more from him. Yeah, I really don't. And it's I'm
not even thinking about the money. I'm thinking about the
success of the team. I'll deal with the money in
the off season. Yeah, I'm talking about now. If give
me an inning because all that spin and stuff he's
got and then curveball when it's on, oh my beautiful right,
but it seems like it's rolling through the longer it
(02:23:18):
goes through. And right now you may only get an
inning at him, but it'll be a key inning if
you can get it from him and get him going right.
Speaker 11 (02:23:23):
And got out there for your best stuff.
Speaker 1 (02:23:27):
Agreed.
Speaker 6 (02:23:28):
Man, here's hoping. And by the way, too, as I mentioned,
you get the Yankees in town. Perfect drinking conditions over
there at Dyking Park it is.
Speaker 11 (02:23:35):
And uh, I was out there a Friday night, went
up to the upper deck where they have that the
happy hour, was able to get a Crawford box. The
worst thing that could happen though, they I was getting
my second Crawford bock and they put a cup on
the tap and I went, oh God, oh no. But
they reply to it very quickly, but UH kind of
got scared there. I was like, I'm gonna have to
go elsewhere in the ballpark you go find some Crawford box.
But it is the good news is it's all over
(02:23:57):
dyk in park. You can get the Crawford from car
Bock Browing goes parerfectly with Astros Baseball and fortunately went
perfect with an Astros win for me on Friday night
when I was there but heading to the ballpark this week,
grab yourself a Crawford box from carbot Born.
Speaker 1 (02:24:09):
No doubt about it.
Speaker 6 (02:24:10):
Astros and Yankees three games series coming up. Gordy, you're
the best. We'll talk to you on Thursday. Do want
to get into the weekend? That was too for this
one guy because it was perfect in every single way.
We'll talk about it here. It is a Sean Salisbury
show on a Tuesday Sports Talk seven to ninety and live.
Speaker 10 (02:24:28):
But the Sean Salisbury Show continued but real quick here Sean.
Speaker 6 (02:24:34):
We touched on it briefly earlier Lee Corso's final college
game Day, and I gotta say ESPN has the ability
at times to really kind of not meet the moment
like where it's all right, this is too sappy, this
is too much, like I don't need much of this.
To their credit, they ran a regular show. And of
(02:24:54):
course you know Corso's there, he's got the tuxedo on.
There wasn't a ton of tiers and all of those things,
but you know the final one right there. And I
know that some people are probably saying, well, wait a minute,
why is ESPN at midfield? Because the guy was college
game Day, like the game, the show the way it
is you know now, And I mean you even heard
(02:25:15):
Charles Barkley say it that inside the NBA doesn't exist,
some of these other shows probably don't exist without him
bringing the pomp and circumstance. And by the way, too
when he was still incredibly sharp pre stroke. Corso was
a guy that he delivered some knowledge, he delivered some analysts.
Speaker 1 (02:25:34):
I mean, you know, just just all of it.
Speaker 7 (02:25:36):
Corso was fire in the belly long back in the day.
He was He had all the energies of these guys
that anybody does now. He is directly responsible for driving
people to pregame shows that made it happen on football.
He just is, which led to other debate, and it
was just he was hardcore, he was opinionated, he did
not care what you thought, and he was able to
(02:25:58):
approach that respect his whole career.
Speaker 1 (02:26:01):
He just was eloquent. Yet at times it stepped out
of a comfort. I mean, just like what did Li say?
But that's been who he is. He created.
Speaker 7 (02:26:10):
We owe a lot to pregame shows and just football
coverage in general owes a lot to him because, make
no mistake, you saw the person and he's exactly right.
Every time he tried to shove x's and o's, he said,
when he told Herbstreet when they were interviewing, and Herbstreet's
talking about it when they were sitting on the second set,
when Fowler came on about that, Lee would encourage him.
Speaker 1 (02:26:29):
It's in a sweetheart, it's entertainment, sweet heart. He'd get
called caught up in it. And Lee knew x's and o's,
oh he did.
Speaker 7 (02:26:37):
But he took x'es and o's and combined it without
worrying about some coach being offended and put that in
with respectful hardcore analysis but strong opinion without carrying and
energy and then entertainment, and he applied them both and
they worked, and then as it went on it became
the Well, it's the most you'll never see college game
(02:26:59):
day like that again. Regardless of what they're trying to create,
it will not be the same. It may still be good,
and it may be good in a different way, but
it won't be what you're used to, nor should it.
Even with Sabing, you know, no head gear, none of that.
They'll find other ways, but you can't just create out
of nowhere another league. Corso we owe a lot. And
he was awesome, and he went out in style, and
he went out winning, and he went out with opinion.
(02:27:21):
And I'll be damned it was. It's been one hell
of a run, and an emotional one at that. I
just thought it was spectacular. He brought fan bases to
what you see every day now, which went from fifty
to one hundred people to thousands and thousands, even at
this stage when five point one million viewers for the
last fifteen minutes of the show. Now, it adds also
(02:27:44):
perspective of the big thing. You think of three hundred
million people, I'd stay safe, man, it's everything. Who doesn't
watch college football on Saturday, Well, apparently a whole bunch
of people are when you think about it, i mean
five point one of the whole country. I'm assuming when
they're watching college game Day that everybody they turned on
the sound at the bar we were out in La.
I mean they want everybody want to hear Corso and
(02:28:04):
how it was going to his last show was going
to be. And it's five point one million, and that's
a lot. And you think, man, I thought, why is
it it fifty two million? Know, don't that many people
watch college football? And you're like, you want to add
perspective to life. There's plenty of people didn't give a
rats ass, But if you're into football, it didn't matter
if you were a celebrity or another network honoring him
on the scoreboard. Lee Corso was what you want a
(02:28:28):
pregame show to be about. Gimmick, but gimmick with spice
and with content which was awesome, but the gimmick the
headgear was the gimmick. But that was perfect. But leading
up to it, Lee Corso new football, but he knew
entertainment and he got it. And they'll never be able
to repeat that again.
Speaker 1 (02:28:44):
Analysis. That was the word that I was looking for.
Lovely man.
Speaker 6 (02:28:48):
No, No, he definitely left a positive mark Louis and
Katie wants to weigh in.
Speaker 1 (02:28:53):
Louis, good morning, Good morning guys, how you're doing good?
I want to hear me.
Speaker 5 (02:28:59):
Yeah, yes, I wanted to bring something up again. Archie
didn't play well.
Speaker 8 (02:29:06):
I want to be a little bit harder on.
Speaker 1 (02:29:08):
Him because this is not his first game.
Speaker 8 (02:29:10):
He opened an SEC game again Sippy State last year,
so he is not a rookie completely and he played
last year and everybody was praising on him last year.
Speaker 5 (02:29:19):
So this is this game against so I said it
wasn't good, so.
Speaker 8 (02:29:23):
We agree on that, or let's also stark vanilla not
good for him.
Speaker 15 (02:29:27):
However, everybody's talking about about Archie.
Speaker 5 (02:29:30):
And nobody is talking about.
Speaker 8 (02:29:31):
Supposibly the best player in college football for two years
in a row, which is Jeremy's Jeremiesmith.
Speaker 1 (02:29:38):
He had two drops.
Speaker 15 (02:29:40):
His two games against Texas has been very pedestrian. I mean,
and nobody is talking about Jeremiah Smith to be uh,
not a good player or anything, but on arch everybody's
jumping on them, and I think that's not fair, and
nobody's talking about him, and he didn't have really had
a good game. The other part also wanted you to
(02:30:00):
quick is Louise.
Speaker 1 (02:30:04):
The picture from.
Speaker 5 (02:30:07):
Louise.
Speaker 1 (02:30:08):
Yeah, he was fined, he couldn't do it.
Speaker 8 (02:30:12):
He was burnt again my side, Tom, let you guys
comments and thank you very much.
Speaker 5 (02:30:17):
I appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (02:30:18):
I appreciate Louise. I mean in terms of Jeremiah Smith.
Speaker 6 (02:30:21):
I mean, if we were doing a show in Cleveland
or Cincinnati or somewhere like that, then probably we're talking
more about that Sean. But I mean from here, it's
the Texas side. They lost and arch Manning did not
play that well, so that's why we're focusing on it here.
Speaker 7 (02:30:35):
Both quarterbacks are going to get better, and I assure
you the ball's not gonna be left on the ground
many times, either by a receiver who's pretty sure handed.
Speaker 1 (02:30:42):
Liter This is listen.
Speaker 7 (02:30:44):
I hate to say this, but anybody who's afraid to
criticize arch Manning is wrong. But anybody who buries him
is also wrong. It's okay, he's at a big school. Listen,
what do you think.
Speaker 1 (02:30:56):
He's feeling like this morning walking across campus.
Speaker 7 (02:31:00):
Probably not getting bothered as much, right, but understands that
he knows the whispers that are going on. But guess
what you know when he'd be Yeah, you want to
know what kind of quarterback you'd be if he started
to buy into what people are saying, buy into what
you know, who you are and what you're going to
talk about with Sark in the meeting, and see what
we saw is fixable.
Speaker 1 (02:31:18):
They weren't.
Speaker 7 (02:31:19):
It's just some decisions he made and some mechanical flaws
in the game. They reared their head against the wrong team.
They still and you know what, they still had a
chance to win. Driving down the field, they were going
to play for a tie or if you go for
two to win the football game. They got that chance.
After all you saw for a new lineman, you're trying
to get your guys in the run game. Good, but
(02:31:39):
could have used it more, didn't use his legs as much.
The inaccuracy, the mechanical flaws that he had. You still
had a chance to win a game against number three
team in the horseshoe on the road, in your first
big start, your third year career, first big start ever,
So no excuse. If he plays like that again, they
will get beat by Texas A and M, or they
will get beat by somebody like that.
Speaker 1 (02:31:59):
They just will.
Speaker 7 (02:32:00):
When's that game when when's that games at the end
of the season. There they'll get beat by teams that
are good. You just will and you'll lose it home
if you. He gets it and it's it's okay, but
it's okay to criticize him. It's that personal arch Manning
didn't ask for all this. He just happened to be
thrust into through his career that he's going to be
the guy that everybody expects great things from. You know how,
(02:32:21):
he played like he looked like a first time starter
in a huge game, and then he looked like, ooh
saw the flashes of brilliance and what he's got a
chance to bring. I would bet on the over of
him playing better football, not the under and getting it fixed.
But that doesn't take away the fact that he missed
some throws that it normally the average quarterback would have made,
(02:32:41):
and then he made a couple of throws that the
average quarterback wouldn't attempt that whole shot a couple ofs.
So you got to give him credit. He's just got
to dial it down a little bit with the but
they also have to up the energy in the run.
Give Steve Starkesian's got to and Sark knows this. He
has got to expand and be more aggressive early. He
played into the let's protect it early and see what happens,
(02:33:04):
and it was the second half. It worked, but you
saw him come out far more aggressive in the second half,
and I think that's what you're gonna have to do
moving forward. Play it safe when necessary, but there's a
time and a place. I think we saw arch Manning
play better when it was more aggressive as well, and
they were playing faster.
Speaker 6 (02:33:19):
If you're a fan, this might be one year your
largest nightmares. We'll discuss that here as we close things

Speaker 11 (02:34:46):
We want to wait.
Speaker 10 (02:34:48):
Sean Salisbury continues on seven.
Speaker 6 (02:34:50):
Ninety Texan's gonna be off from the practice field today.
They're gonna get back to work tomorrow, getting ready for
the Rams in La on Sunday, Sean, did you see
that over the weekend the MLB ballpark app went down
at some ballparks, like you know the ballpark that you
love that's near and dear to your heart, Fenway Park.
Apparently it was down and they were allowing for people
(02:35:13):
to go and print their tickets, but it was still
massive delays outside for that. See, that is for me
one of those where that is a fear because it's
also if you've ever been to a game with a
group like I have numerous times, and it's one person
has to stand there and keep swiping for the next
person to go. Like it's just like like just allow
(02:35:36):
for you to be able to like text the tickets
and then like you see that we have it, which
I understand counterfeits all that kind of stuff. Here's another
one too, when you're going to the ballpark. Now, got
to make sure your phone is charged.
Speaker 1 (02:35:47):
I know, it's crazy. I've been there where you've Oh,
you got to print them. You can't.
Speaker 7 (02:35:52):
You can't go papal as you I mean, I mean
you can't print them. You have to bring paper, Like
you don't even think about what it just except both
I'm with you. Also where you're like, oh, down, you
see it's right there. It's been sent by you guys.
Here's who had said from here's it shows receipt and everything.
But there that's you have to prepare for the ticket
(02:36:12):
like you do prepare to go, like on a trip.
It's like, is everything settled? Do we make sure we
download and went through it again? And that's this way
you give him by his son. They gave it to him.
Go you had all the technical stuff, make sure and
he stood there and swiped it for all four of
us to get into the suite.
Speaker 1 (02:36:24):
It was him doing it.
Speaker 7 (02:36:26):
But yeah, it's it's become Oh the home alone. Do
we got the tickets?
Speaker 5 (02:36:32):
You know?
Speaker 1 (02:36:32):
Oh where's he at?
Speaker 2 (02:36:34):
Oh?
Speaker 7 (02:36:34):
We left him at home because you're so worried about
everything else, and you got to worry about those tickets.
Speaker 1 (02:36:38):
Now.
Speaker 6 (02:36:38):
See, they wouldn't have, you know, miscounted Kevin if that
nosy kid from down the street wasn't back there and
they miscounted him. Yeah, instead of being Kevin.
Speaker 7 (02:36:46):
No doubt about it, quit being nosy exact way, and
then you took the wrath of the big brother Buzz.
Speaker 1 (02:36:52):
Yeah, you don't mess with Buzz dude. Kevin, look what
you did to my room.
Speaker 6 (02:36:57):
There's that damn tarantula, although the tarantula say them, you know,
with mars right on his head.
Speaker 1 (02:37:03):
Yeah, right there. There.
Speaker 6 (02:37:07):
There are thoughts, by the way, like the movie Saw Jigsaw,
there are people who believe that Jigsaw was once Kevin McAllister.
Oh really yeah, which you think about it, some of
the traps that you know Jigsaw would set up on
in that movie, you're kind of like, how did Kevin
have this knowledge to do all this?
Speaker 7 (02:37:24):
But the Jigsaw ones are a little more that could
happen in real life too, Dude.
Speaker 6 (02:37:30):
That's the thing like watching that movie, are you I
used to dude movies like that, like it's one thing
for psychological f job is because like it's like one
thing for like scary movies. But like that's what I
used to run into with an X was that, like
you know, she'd be like, it's not that bad. I'm like, no,
it is that bad because stuff like this in Texas
Chainsaw Masker could actually happen.
Speaker 1 (02:37:51):
Yeah or has well? I mean, yeah, you've got.
Speaker 7 (02:37:55):
That those those psychological did the deep and you think
when I'm thinking about is how does some cycle actually
think about this stuff.
Speaker 6 (02:38:04):
Yeah, that's why I'm like eli Roth that actually probably
is a serial killer in his mind.
Speaker 7 (02:38:07):
Yeah, it's like he's coming up here. That's right, you
come up with that. See it's unlike Halloween. You ain't
got I'm throwing you off a third story. But you're dying, okay,
or you're breaking everybody. You ain't getting up and walk.
I can't find you anymore. Okay, you're not coming out
of the lake as but putting these people together where
you got to make the choice and it's either you
or him.
Speaker 1 (02:38:25):
You got to cut your foot. I mean, those saws
are a trip, dude.
Speaker 6 (02:38:29):
It's like, uh, the first Jason, you know, that's one
of the biggest trip. Yeah, yeah, the first Uh what
did they go? Uh not Nightmare on Elm Street Friday
the thirteenth. Yeah, yeah, his mom was the killer. It
wouldn't even have no idea.
Speaker 7 (02:38:45):
Yea varies tell who wins the fight, Myers or Varhe's
you're going bies, I gotta go Myers, like you just
you can't kill the bastard, Yeah Myers. I mean, dude,
he falls, he sticks the landing on two story building, falls,
and you don't you blink and he's gone.
Speaker 6 (02:39:01):
It's like the entire movie, like say, all right, they
finally got him, they finally got him, and then it's
he turns into the Undertaker and.
Speaker 7 (02:39:07):
Just my favorite, back to live him in the leg
and then you just leave the knife sitting by.
Speaker 1 (02:39:11):
That's the one. Yeah, my favorite. I think we got him.
Speaker 6 (02:39:14):
Did you shoot him in the head, because I don't
think if you did, you'd get you got him.
Speaker 7 (02:39:18):
Yeah, even then, I think he's probably still alive. Vorhe's
and meers tough. That's tough, tough to pick. But when
all said done, give me the the saw guy's psychological
stuff and then I'll take that.
Speaker 1 (02:39:30):
Dude.
Speaker 7 (02:39:31):
If you're trying to if you're trying to put away,
to put people in a bind, that dude does it
too rare. Let's say on a good note, Yeah, say
on a good note, A and M big win. Yeah,
Texas will get back to it. It's a good wake
up call. Chance to beat the Yankees and then the
Astros with a chance to to extend this league. And
Luis Garcia, good on, you swing some bats, no doubt not.
I'm in how about that?
Speaker 1 (02:39:51):
All right?
Speaker 6 (02:39:52):
He's Shawn Triple Emmanuel Elmore, Dan Matthews, The Matt Thomas
Show with Ross coming up right now, We will talk
to you in twenty hours.
Speaker 1 (02:40:00):
Facto Tito
