Speaker 1 (00:02):
Salsbury.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
Hot, Okay, let's do this. Sewan Salisbury.
Speaker 3 (00:12):
To usc Troup, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Dan Matthewscus. This is the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 4 (00:23):
And Sanchez crushes one pretty deep to right center field
and you can't test that one. Goodbye over the Astros bullpen.
A first pitch home run by Jesus Sanchez, his second
with the Astros and twelfth of the season.
Speaker 5 (00:37):
What nothing, Houston two to one at his line. Now
towards right over at leaping dubond. They're gonna wave around Ritter.
Here comes the throw from Sanchez. It is up the
line and sliding in head first to score. The go
ahead run is Ryan Ritter on the RBI single to
right by Mickey Moniac and the Rockies have a two
to one lead here in the top of the third.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
Now the one one that.
Speaker 5 (00:58):
Is lifted in the left struck pretty well. That one
is caring and that's going to get into the Crawford
boxes and gone to two.
Speaker 4 (01:07):
And Moniac drives this one toward left center field, headed
for the gap, and that ball is off the fence
in front of the visitor's bullpen. Caro scores Ritter right
behind him a two run double for Mickey Moniac, who
continues to have Hunter Brown's number, and it is a
six to one Rockies lead pitch on the way fastball
and that's lifted to center fairly deep, but this is
(01:27):
playable for Doyle. He's under it, waiting for it to
come down, and he makes the catch and that is
the ballgame. Well, the day that started with a lot
of excitement for the Astros with the return of Jordan
Alvarez ends in a thud as they lose their second
in a row to night, falling to the Rockies six
to one.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
Wow.
Speaker 6 (01:45):
Cool, awesome. I mean, definitely recommend you try it right, No,
not even close. And with that we say away we
go in good morning here on the Sean Salisbury Show
Sports Talk seven to ninety. I mean, as we even
just heard Robert Ford say right there, the Astros losing
last night to the Rockies in the return of Jordan
(02:06):
Alvarez over two with a couple of walks. But I'm
not really sure that I had that as the conclusion
to the game yesterday, Sean, but there it is. We
got a really just honestly disgraceful performance out of the Astros.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
Yeah, I Uh, I don't know how I'm trying to
describe this. I went on with with Nate Griffin and
Fox this morning. We were talking about the Texans. In
my mind the whole time, you know, we were thinking
about these guys who are getting cut in British Brooks
making the team, and I'm a whole time I'm thinking
about baseball. And that's now, you know, you get and
(02:41):
I'm actually sidetracked by it. Okay, last night's performance was
a bit woeful. Pitching's starting pitchings is scrambling. Brother, they're
having some troubles maybe, and we're talking about their best guy.
You know, he hung in there, but just they got
to him. And this is in your building. I understand
(03:05):
it's a long season. I understand the Colorado Rockies are
getting paid too, but in some cases barely. I don't
mean it. You know. What I'm saying is that you're
I it's borderline and excusable in a race like this
where you're around thirty games to go and you've got
a game and a half lead. Fortunately, the Padres beat
(03:25):
the Mariners last night, and you've got a team coming
in that the run differential going into this game has
been pointed by Steve Sparks and you and I discussed
it is almost three hundred and fifty runs in their season,
the Rockies minus three forty nine, three fifty. Well, now
now it's the what three forty five after last night?
(03:45):
So the Waltz in there and didn't just beat him
with the bloop stingle in the in the seventh, they
beat him. They hammered him. I just this is what
I'm talking about, Dan, That's why you can't you know
what this is. I'm gonna tell you what this is
in my opinion. Oh, it's one game. I get it.
These always seem to come back and haunt teams. Man,
(04:08):
they just do I understand. Well, I'm gonna get I
know we're going to get from some Well the other
team they're a pro team. Well, I mean yeah, they
got pride. And I've told you this too, Dan, that
teams like this are dangerous. Why they have nothing to
play for other than you know, the off season. You
know they're under contract. You're there or hopefully that you
you know, maybe the Rockies. You're you're auditioning for another team.
(04:31):
But the only thing you got to play for is
to get into the end of the season and getting
your game ripe. And I don't even know how much
they're evaluating in Colorado the last thirty games. I can
tell you this that they're dangerous. Why it proved last
night because you get to a point in your mind
and I've been there, and when its season you know
you're not making the playoffs and you're playing, it's like
let it rip, man, you play freeer and relaxed, not
(04:52):
that uptight, because it is like, well we've seen this
about a hundred times this year, meaning getting beat, so
you just go let it go. They are pros, so
they got skills, they're just not the overall the sum
isn't near as good as some of the parts on
the team. Well look what happens coming to your dames.
They're playing free and easy and you're in a damn
you you're in a division race and quite frankly a
(05:15):
wild card race, and you're trying to get to the
finish line and you let a team walton here. This
is simply you're leading. And it's not a gust of
the masters. Why because well it's a regular season game.
But this is you're leading by three strokes on the
eighteenth pole. At a par three and you hit it
into the water twice and you lose the tournament and
(05:37):
the guy makes three and a half million bucks and
you finished in second place. Matter of fact, you dropped
down the third because you had such a poor showing
that you triple bogie to par three that was one
hundred and eighty five yards with no water, I mean,
with no with an easy side to hit, and you
tried to short side it. You're and now that's what
happened last night. This is a triple body on a
par three with a chance to win a tournament. You
(05:59):
can't get beat in your building by Colorado. You just
can't do it. I wonder how many times they've won
by five runs on the road this year. Honest to god,
I didn't even look. I'm thinking about this one. I
wonder my times they've gone on the road. And I
understand that this is game twenty seven. I told you
now you now you're in danger. You got to go
(06:20):
win too straight. Oh it'll be automatic. That went too straight.
I ain't seen automatic at all this year. I just haven't.
So this is frustrating. They looked, Uh, I don't know
how you can be out matched in your own building.
It's the team that that's that's gonna. It's it's chasing
records on the negative side, and you're you're you're literally
(06:41):
it's not tired. You had a day off. Nobody's tired.
If you are, then get some then then you're not
doing it right. And and to allow the wallton here,
it was as if oh, they felt like, well, it's
it's Colorado. We're gonna we're gonna tax that ass today.
And and you saw what happened, and I just I
don't That's why I talked to the urgency, man, the
(07:01):
urgency of playing everybody every day, of making sure you
understand dialed in. I just don't get great. Teams wouldn't
lose this game.
Speaker 7 (07:10):
Man.
Speaker 1 (07:11):
They wouldn't have lost last night. They just don't in
this situation. I know you're gonna lose in situations, but man,
maybe it's the optics of how they lost. It just
didn't look good. It looks sluggish to me from the start.
The energy with Jordan, I get it, but you get
what I'm saying. It's just I don't know, man, it
was just an ugly watch. I know, I know they
know the severity and then the the urgency of the situation.
(07:34):
I know that, but from afar, it felt like it
felt like a team that just kind of needed to
get to Wednesday. And that's bothersome because there's still the
other team does get paid and now good, Now you
now go screw around and find out and watch what
happens if you go. If you lose again one way
(07:55):
or the other, they're gonna look back to this and
say we can't let that happen, and it's gonna fire
them there. They're gonna go on role or they're gonna
look back at the st end of sea and say,
you know, it sucked even though Seattle lost the same time,
we could have got a two and a half game lead.
And somehow you end up regretting stuff like this because
it hits you hard, even though right now where it'll
get lost in the wash and then we'll go back,
(08:15):
as everybody does off season or in the springs. They
remember how it ended last year because we remember when
they had to win five or six and when the
two you know what Dusty's last year, right, was that
last year? Two years was that two years ago? Yeah?
Speaker 6 (08:27):
Those two years ago.
Speaker 1 (08:29):
That's right? So remember how that went where you got in. Well,
now I promise you remember if you don't, and these
are games that keep you out. I know they're instilled
in good shape because they're so fortunate. Did Seattle's matched
their their loss with loss during about the last what
eight to ten games? They really are so hell of
a team. We know they got bats, but once again
(08:51):
it crept back into being looked like the most of
the season Dan where it was inconsistent, some bad played appearances,
you get team jumps on you. They seemed more urgent
than the Astros did last night. I know they happened. Yeah,
it's a long season. I get all that, but I
just don't think, and I don't think you can let
games like this happen. I just don't. The truth is
(09:13):
your Triple A team can play with Colorado. It's gone
this year. They've been a struggling unit. Obviously, that's a
captain obvious statement. They sure didn't look like it last night, though,
And I just say, don't let them be the reason.
Do not let the Colorado Rockies be the reason, because
we will not. That's not the way you want this
(09:34):
thing to go. And I think you needed to sweep them.
I know you got to win the series and that'll
help it. One game does matter, regardless of what anybody says,
it does matter, and we've seen that happen to our
favor and a tiebreaker here in this city too well.
Speaker 6 (09:48):
And to your point, I mean, you can't keep counting
on that the Mariners are going to lose. You losing
to the Rockies is not the same as them losing
at home to a team that's fighting for a division
title in the same division that the Rockies are in,
and the CNDA padres like, you can't keep counting on this,
Like you have these soft parts of the schedule. You
have to take part or you have to take advantage
(10:09):
of the soft part of your schedule.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
There's no doubt you want to take a bet. The
game's one fifty seven. When they asked when the Mariners
play the Rockies, I'll take a bet right now. Anybody
wants to put a future's bet they sweep that series.
You watch Seattle sweep that series? Should right Yeah, I'll
(10:33):
leave that right there. I told you to me in
a series like this, two out of three didn't feel
good enough to me. It's just in two out of
three against the Padres two out of three against Detroit.
If if you're fortunate to pull that out two out
of three against Baltimore, buss, I get it. You just
can't do that, especially at home. You just cannot do this.
And we got Well, it happens. I know what happens,
(10:55):
and I guess you can do it. But you, you,
you suffer the consequences, consequences from it.
Speaker 8 (11:01):
They can't.
Speaker 1 (11:02):
Nobody that saw that game last night thought it looked
like a team that had a one and a half
game lead and there was urgency written all over it.
It did not look like a team now I know
they get it. Hell, they've been there before, far greater
than I have. This is just from a distance. To me,
it looked like a team that had a ten game
lead and couldn't wait to get to the playoffs. Then
we'll get a casual our way into the playoffs. Just
stay healthy and we'll get through it. That's what it
(11:23):
looked like, or like a team that flip it, like
the Colorado Rockies had the game and a half lead
and they and they had to stave off a competitor.
That's what it looked like to me. So but that's
from a distance. I wasn't in the ballpark last night,
but it sure wasn't pretty. And if you just woke
up this morning and didn't watch it, probably say you
(11:44):
may not want to watch the replay wasn't fun.
Speaker 6 (11:47):
Well, sometimes perception is reality, and that is the perception
that I had to Sean. It looked like a disinterested
ball club last night, and it's incredibly it's incredibly frustrating
to feel that way and to see that because I mean,
just watching some of these at bats. And we'll continue
it as the show goes along. Roger, I see year there.
I know you want to get in if you want
to join them someone three two one two five seven

it still plays and we're gonna talk about it here

Back to the Sean Salisbury Show on Sports Talk seven ninety.
I'm a sport, your astroids, your rockets, your.
Speaker 6 (15:26):
Voice, Sean. I mean, as I said, a broken record,
and it continues to be played because well it still plays.
Oh for seven last night with runners in scoring position,
eleven runners left on base, Jose l two ve Jordan Alvarez,
which I'll kind of give him a pass, but still
he's included in this. Just to be able to further
(15:46):
the point, Christian Walker and Jose or excuse me, Jesus
Sanchez last night one for thirteen out of that group
three through six in your lineup, one for thirteen out
of those guys, it's six hits as a whole on
the night. As a team, I think you're muted.
Speaker 1 (16:12):
Always am when I'm always a muted until I well,
it might help me to hit the button turned my
mic on all way. I sat here talking like I'm man,
I'm on a roll right to the mute button. I dan.
I don't know how the season's going to turn out,
none of us do. I know all the hopes in that.
But if we're being honest and doing some self evaluation,
(16:32):
if you're the Asros and as fans, as much as
we love them, this is not a great baseball team. Okay,
I know we want it to be this year. I'm
talking about this year. And when you say that, you
got to understand, folks, talent and production are two different things.
There are a lot of talented people, and this is
a talented team with some young talent, some veteran talent,
(16:53):
some older talent. They got all that, but sometimes the
talent and production don't match. If we go and look
at the season, and I know we get giddy when
they have two big power games, and they and they're
swinging the bat, or three on the road, a couple
against Baltimore where they're like, oh, okay, man, that's who
they are now. The truth is and who they are
(17:14):
is a couple runs a game, maybe three, show you
flash half games where they're capable of hanging eight nine
runs on you and mowing you down with their pitching staff.
But we've seen just as many, if just as many
games where they've had to win in a one run game.
They haven't exploded, Thank goodness. They got great starting pitching
(17:35):
early on to do that, and then when they didn't
get great starting pitching, they were able to get tremendous bullpen.
And that if the bullpen isn't tremendous and starting pitching isn't,
you were lying on hitting, and quite frankly, hitting has
been up and down this year. This is who they
are in twenty twenty five. Now who they are right
now in twenty twenty five. The body of work says it, well,
they're over five hundred and all that. But the body
(17:56):
of work says, you haven't gone on that. Oh my gosh.
You know the schedule, And they did it in June
and July, where they were, you know, or June and
early July where they were really good and extended a
lead but came back to earth. And now they're in
that in that scrambled to win a division. This who
they are. I know we have injuries, I get all that.
I'm just talking about. They're they're not. They're just they're
(18:17):
They got some potential to to go on in the playoffs.
They could easily be a first first series out. They've
got frontline pitching that when they're good, there's nobody better.
They're as good as anyone to in the league. But
lately they've been just okay, they've been They've been all right.
Hunter's been fine, not dominant like he was early and
(18:38):
Fromber has not been that good. He just hasn't. Jason
Alexander has been a consistent pitcher. They just haven't. The
bats have not supplied consistent power all year. Your stars
have not given you consistent hitting all year. They've given
you at times. You know, wel Tuvey and Korea coming
here has been good. We know that Pain has had
a fantastic year. It's been, but it's been up and down.
(19:00):
So we're keeping I think we're all trying to latch onto.
This is the twenty nineteen regular season Astros. They're not
that good. They're good, they're not great, They're not average,
they're above average. They're playing that way. But here's what
bothers me. They have the capabilities to creep into awful
against teams that shouldn't be awful against. And that's a
that And I know when you get to the playoffs,
(19:21):
no team's awful, but it just and they didn't go
out there on purpose to lose it. They didn't go
out there thinking, well, we got They just look disinterested
at times, and I have a hard time believe in
why they would with the energy with Jordan coming back.
But have we ever thought that maybe they're just not
good enough to sweep teams on a regular basis this
(19:42):
year that they're supposed to. I mean, when you get
right down to it, isn't that what the season's telling us?
I don't know why. And for an organization, if we're fans,
if we're being honest, for an organization that has a
heavy heavy hand in on analytics, analytics are nothing more
than evidence evidence that this has happened. Period. Well, aren't
(20:08):
you seeing the analytics and evidence with the team. Look
at the numbers. Now, numbers can lie in certain things,
but look at the numbers. Good enough, They've won more
than they've lost, which makes them a good team. They
have done some things this year that prove they're not
a great team, injuries included, unfortunately, and to me, and
(20:29):
they've had great moments. They've had some really good moments,
and they've had a bunch of average moments, and then
they've had some futrid moments. So and I know that
a lot of teams can say that, here's the problem.
The difference between is when you're sitting in the middle
of that great the better teams don't get in too
many of these laws against teams are not supposed to be.
Now you say, well, Sean Detroit went one and eleven
(20:51):
or something one in ten at one point season, yep,
But we know who Detroit is. We know they're going
to be. I mean, you can look at them to
conceive go through each team at this point the season.
We kind of know who you are. At least that's
what I've been told by baseball people, that the players
and that you know who a team is. Now you're
gonna get You're gonna go on hot streaks, and but
(21:12):
regardless of what hot streak you going the the the
core of your team and who you're about usually doesn't
lie one hundred and thirty games into a season. You
just hope you get hot at the right time. Last night,
wasn't it? So this is who they are? You know,
two good games offensively, you go score one run against
the Colorado Rockies in your building with jord One back.
(21:36):
So and I know it's the first game we're gonna
get all the I know, if what if I get it?
But what if let's just face facts, what if this
team is just a good team. And in my mind
from what I see this year, that if they take
the top six teams and then they play their best,
(21:58):
the Astros are gonna finish a couple or three or
four of the top teams, and if they all play
their best, but they are capable of going on that run.
We've seen it, so we're hold out hope. But I
just think that if we're being real, the Astros are
a good team with really good players. They're not a
great team, and they could easily be eliminated in the
first round of the playoffs, just like last year.
Speaker 6 (22:21):
I want you to think about what you said about
Jason Alexander. I mean that is he's now a counted
on guy. But who the hell ever thought that we
would be counting on Jason Alexander. And I'll throw a
couple of others in there, Steven Okert and Caleb Borts
this year? Do you get my point here that the
pitching has stepped up time and time again for this team.
So then last night we have a performance like we
(22:42):
do from Hunter Brown, it's, oh, what's wrong with Hunter Brown?
Speaker 1 (22:45):
No, what's wrong with to help its yet again?
Speaker 6 (22:47):
Going over seven runners in scoring position?
Speaker 1 (22:50):
Right, there's no doubt. Now, listen, Hunter wasn't at as
sharp as he hung in there. That's not you know,
give what you give up six earned runs himself. But
you're you're exactly right, and that's the time you can't
see that. It almost felt like, there's, oh, Hunters on
the mound. We don't have to do that much. That's
what it felt like. I'm not saying that's it for me,
that's oh, we got him on the Oh, Paul Skeins
(23:10):
is on the mound.
Speaker 8 (23:11):
Cool?
Speaker 1 (23:12):
Yeah, And Pittsburgh's proven that all y're oh, he's on
the mound. Of course we're not going to score, and
I think you can get you get locked into that.
But those three guys you named all have what in
common at a battle and fight to do their thing
right nobody I mean the expectations and I know there's
a that we've had expectations for bullpens, but what do
(23:33):
they all do their fighting for their baseball. I mean
they're fighting to be a steadfast to stay on a
regular basis, right, Jason Alexander's fighting to be the guy
that you can count on for years to come. He
does it feels like he's auditioning and he's kicking ass.
There's a sense of urgency in his game. Now it
may who knows where it's going to head from here,
(23:54):
but look at the stage of his career where he's at,
what he's trying to bring to the table. And then
you know, you go to the guys you're exactly right
the night when your star can't get enough guys out somehow,
some way, you can't leave runners in scoring position. And
it was against Colorado and the thing. And this is
no disrespect to those players. They're just not very good Rockies.
We've seen it and at times it looks like they've
(24:15):
checked out. You can't give up. You can't be three
hundred and forty nine runs down in the run differential
and us call you good. We can respect your effort
and game, but we can't call you good. I want
you to look at the discrepancy. It's crazy. And they
waltzed into your building a beach it they just like
I said, yes, I know we couldn't do it, and
I'm not and I don't mean it like that. I don't.
(24:37):
Sometimes when you're critical constructively, people think, well, you know,
you know how hard is I damn might know how
hard it is, and I've said it in a million
times how hard it is to win. But I also
know that the Kansas City Chiefs can't lose to You
can't lose to the Tennessee Titans with two games to
go and then with a one game lead at home.
(25:01):
Does that make sense?
Speaker 6 (25:02):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (25:03):
The Kansas City Chiefs, who I kind of a like
into the Astros over I mean, they've been down with
the Astros over the last ten years, has been as
consistently good as anybody the Chiefs. Now, the Chiefs won
more championship, but you get My point is that it'd
be like, hey, they're coming into Arrowhead. We got a
one game lead over the Chargers, and they get to
play two hacked team, two teams that are under five
hundred in their own building the last two games. And
we get to play Carolina and Tennessee last year. Oh cool,
(25:28):
and they're both at home and can't say yeah, and oh, well,
what happens if you lose those two games? Well, not
only do we miss out of the playoffs, we don't
even make the wild card, and then the three times
in a row Super Bowl team gets beat in their
building thirty one to three. That's what that was last night.
Speaker 6 (25:45):
Yeah, well, sometimes there's nobody else to blame but yourself.
And that's what the Astros have for a six hit
performance and again leaving eleven runners on base and unable
to beat the Rockies last night and drop the opener
of the series. But you're still a game and a
half up on the Mariners in the West. I just
don't know how much Laurel lying it you can do
right now if you're the Astros. Roger John, see you
(26:08):
guys right there, we're working into the conversation. You want
to join him? Seven one, three, two, and two five
seven ninety against someone three two on two five seven ninety.
It is a Shawn Salisbury show here on a Western Wednesday,
Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (26:21):
Live out there for the Shawn Salisbury Show continued, we
hear candlesticks always make a nice gift in case you're
wondering what to get for a wedding present.
Speaker 1 (26:32):
Now let's get too sick.
Speaker 6 (26:33):
I added that last part in there, but robih I
love that part where he goes out there and it's
like one guy thinks this glove is cursed and then
you know this guy, we don't know what to get
him for a wedding gift. Candlesticks make a nice gift,
all right, Let's get two boys and then the last
hat and walks off.
Speaker 1 (26:47):
So some people wouldn't even know the the uh, they
wouldn't know the reference, right, you know what I'm saying.
But if you don't, I mean you do, then then
everything you can do a little history on the bulder
in the movie. Right there you go. I loved it.
I'm concerned though about that relationship. I thought about last
(27:10):
night and moulded over was happy for him. You know,
everybody thought it was a social media thing. And a
PR thing and all that stuff. And I know this
his uh, his finances have significantly gone up, you know
a lot of commercials and stuff and all that. But
I'm concerned about I thought about it. Go Fundme paid
for them. I'm not sure they're going to be able
to afford the wedding. I'm concerned about, you know. I mean,
(27:36):
I don't know where are they going to have it?
You know, don't you get concerned. I don't know that
they may need to take out a loan, maybe a
second mortgage on their on their small little home, who knows.
You know what I'm saying, I am concerned that they
can't afford the wedding, Dan, and I want them to
have everything that they can possibly have to be able
to afford it. So I don't know, you think they
take out a loan maybe from one of their celebrity
(27:57):
friends or something. I mean, I mean, you know what,
what's their net worth is? Probably what, uh two billion dollars?
Speaker 6 (28:05):
Yeah, I mean she probably has the line share of it.
But I mean he's no slouch.
Speaker 1 (28:08):
Yeah No, I was gonna say she's worth one point
eight billion and he's worth a couple hundred millions my point,
and I'm being facetious, is it it's not the like
good for them? I know that people are tired of
it stuff, but it's too young. A young couple in love, Dan,
a young couple in love. I don't think they're going
to be venmoing anybody for for for for or needing
(28:32):
a GoFundMe to fund wedding. I'm anxiously. Is it going
to be one of those casual ones or are they
too public eye to not like have half the world there?
Speaker 6 (28:41):
Oh no, she She's definitely gonna want half the world there.
Speaker 1 (28:44):
Yeah, ocean float in the background, you know, the background,
seven thousand guests type of thing. You think it's going
to be intimate or just celebrity filled for the.
Speaker 6 (28:54):
Optics, celebrity field for the optics.
Speaker 1 (28:56):
Yeah? Yeah, Well, I mean I guess if you can
you can't, like said I can, we can we crash
the wedding just to eat the food.
Speaker 6 (29:04):
I mean, I'd be about it. I mean, you know
a way to get the Travis Kelsey.
Speaker 1 (29:10):
Yeah, I think we can get. I think we can
find I think we could probably find a way to
crash that wedding. Yeah, you're right, I think I you know,
six degrees of separation. I bet you know. You start
to work around saying, man, how about my buddy here? Yeah,
oh you're one of his buddies. Cool, come on in,
I think we do that. I just want to, like,
there's got to be some like big shrimp cocktail going
to be there. You know what I'm saying. I just
want to go to the reception type of thing. Fine,
(29:33):
I need to get that reception just for some victuals.
I want to. I want to just I want to
see what it's about and what kind of unless you're
serving me, you know he's serving me Mickey D's or
what so. And then I always wonder about weddings like this, Dan,
because you're Taylor Swift. You know, it's like in anything,
when you don't have money, nobody wants to give you anything.
When you got money, you don't have to pay for anything.
(29:55):
Does that makes sense? Write write a song about a truck,
Lady Wilson National Commercial, I got a truck. If Taylor
Swift woke up tomorrow and said, you know what I
really love said steakhouse And she says, this is my
favorite restaurant to go to, and she pubs it. How
long before they're paying their seven figures to endorse it
on social media. Well and in the.
Speaker 6 (30:16):
Day, yeah, and not a single bill comes to her table, right.
Speaker 1 (30:20):
Right, so right, So I just you know, I wonder
like with that, if they decide on a wedding like that,
can I mean from the dress to everything else, because
some you know, fashion designer who's making a lot of
money because they're famous, or somebody who's not trying to
be famous. It's a friend to Taylor Swift, right, all
of a sudden makes a dress. Do you need the
(30:42):
money for the dress or would you rather have Taylor
Swift say this is the best wedding designer in the world.
You'd have to say this because because that'll make you
your your company rolls through the roof. Right. So I
always wondering stuff like this, you know, and they say
it was a thirty million dollar wedding like bezos, And
did they pay for it all or did they with
their pub You know? With this you get my point? Right,
(31:03):
You go into a bar and Taylor Swows walks in
and you're charging her. Probably not, she probably drinks for free.
But so point is, what is that the same with
the wedding maybe not the ring, but I can guarantee
you a jeweler would like to know. Somebody'd like to
know who made it, and the jeweler's pub if she
says it for kay, if Kelsey says it, dude, there
their business. You want to talk about return on investment.
(31:25):
So I just wonder in this do they does it
ever come out of their wallet? Some of it? I'm sure?
Does you know? Flying guests in But if she said,
you know, if they didn't have a private plane, said man,
I would fly American airlines or anything, or talking about man,
I love net jets. If she said that, aren't aren't
her family and guests flying for free if she wants
(31:45):
them to? Oh you get my point. Yeah, I just
always wonder how I always wonder how these things work out.
If if she says something that I want this catered
from these people. Oh, you don't have to pay us, miss,
miss Swift. You just just give us once a week
for a month, once a day for a month. Just
tell us, tell everybody how much you loved our food
(32:05):
and catering. Oh and and tag us in it. Well, okay,
you know what I'm saying. I just I'm always curious
about this, But I'm you know what, dude, there's gonna
be a lot of all this is ridiculous, and there's
gonna be too much pub and all that, and they're
not gonna be able to celebrate in silence, and of
course not. But why wouldn't I be happy for two
people that found each other, regardless of the fact that
(32:27):
they you know, whether you listen to her music or
you like the Kansas City Chiefs, they seem to be
good enough people. Man, I like them. I don't have
a problem with it. I'm happy for him, but we'll
I'll make fun of it for the hell of it,
because well, we don't get to call up somebody'd say
I want you to fly me for free. You know,
we don't get that opportunity. So good on them, man,
good on them.
Speaker 6 (32:45):
Well, I mean it kind of to the point you're
bringing up about, you know, rich people getting things for free.
It reminds me of the movie Funny People, where Adam
Sandler is kind of mentoring Seth Rogan and he takes
him into some room in his house that has like
all the freest of that he's gotten from the prize
suite or whatever they call those areas that award shows
(33:06):
and everything else. And I think his line is, it's
funny how when you get rich, nobody expects you to
pay for anything.
Speaker 1 (33:12):
It's it's the strangest thing. And I don't meet this
arrogant at all one bit. And I'm in such a
small forma. But just being on an NFL roster, I
haven't been on TV for I'm not believing I'm not
a household name in my own home, let alone a celebrity.
But when other people think you are, you're like, oh, okay, cool,
especially if it's somebody want to get and mine was golf, like,
hey man, Taylor made, I'm going to play in a tournament.
(33:33):
And you know what the great thing about, Oh yeah, Sean,
I saw you on TV. Shure man, come on in
and get fitted. You get my point?
Speaker 6 (33:43):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (33:43):
And that's in a small fashion instead of you call
up and write a song and you get a new truck.
But you get my point. I'm not even talking about
endorsing it on. I'm just talking about on the big
level of it's weird. And now imagine what Michael Jordan
or Tiger guys that are real celebrities, right when they
walk in, so I'll think the small wins matter, Dan,
But you're exactly hell. A couple T shirts here and
(34:04):
there from a company the seas you wear it, you're
like a man. I love it. But with those guys, man,
it's crazy, but it is. You just when you got
the money, you don't expect and now today you call up, Hey, Sean,
you got the golf clubs. Yeah, well how much it costs? Well,
that will cost you twenty two hundred bucks for you said,
and we'll expect the payment. Right, that's my point. You
ain't getting them. But if Taylor Swift wants the new
(34:27):
tailor made clubs, she'll never have to play and starts
taking lessons, she'll never have to pay for a golf club. Enough.
If she wears a tailor made hat on TV one time,
she'll have a lifetime supply tailor made golf aalls. You
know how that works because of she's moving product, man,
And I don't hate her for it. Don't hate her
for it or him. He's done pretty damn good in
the endorsement world too, so good on that.
Speaker 6 (34:48):
Yeah, her reach alone, I think you'd be to.
Speaker 1 (34:52):
The most popular person in the world right now. There's
no more celebrity more globally popular than I've seen it
from my nieces.
Speaker 6 (34:58):
I mean we watched whatever that documentary was, and they
were captivated from beginning, raided. I mean that you're talking about,
you know, girls no older than six hanging on every
single word in every single scene.
Speaker 1 (35:11):
So yeah, she walked by and touched it, like shook
their hand or gave him a little hug. They cry, Oh,
grown adults are doing that, sure, rather, Yeah, it's crazy. No,
she's a she's about She's like Elvis Presley, like for
young girls right now.
Speaker 6 (35:25):
Oh, I mean, i'd say on steroids, not Elvis.
Speaker 1 (35:27):
With young girls I met how you know, people trade
like we're crying when they'd see Elvis or the Beatles
on stage with with with young girls that are like
impressionable eight nine, ten, six seven five. Taylor Swift's hung
the Moon and so you know, any product she touches
turns to gold. And that's a good position to be
in because you can sure impact a lot of lives.
(35:48):
Good thing.
Speaker 6 (35:49):
She wasn't around in the fifties or sixties. You know,
then you have some of these ministers. It's the Devil's music.
Speaker 1 (35:55):
Yeah, yeah, if she's got the Devil's music, look out,
because I got some other bigger devil's music.
Speaker 6 (36:00):
Yeah, look at those moves A straight for the devil himself.
Speaker 1 (36:05):
Oh yeah, that'd be and it would have to be
in Ireland. Two or one of those here so we
can hear the Brits they're great, or the Irish or
they're a great access.
Speaker 6 (36:13):
We are on parenton community. That's right, all right, Roger John,
we'll get you guys in you want to join them
someone three two one two five seven ninety astros Hell,
Durham Bulls, Taylor Swift, Travis Kelcey, whatever. It's all available
to you right here on the Sean Salisbury Show, Sports
Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 1 (36:33):
All right, guys, Country Boys roofing country with the k
Boys with my guy John and his team Zach. His

Austin graduate and financing funding financing available now through Country

(36:55):
educator or military you get one thousand, five hundred dollars
discount off the full roof at a time and people
are taking advantage of you, and they are, and John
and his team at Country Boys Roofing know this is
the perfect time where they don't. They want to make

it comes to making sure you're safe and not gouging
(37:16):
at a time when you don't have to take out
a second mortgage to actually have John and his crew

a real novel concept to be fair and honorable. That's
who he is. Proud member of the of the Better
Business Bureau now and deservedly so. And I'm proud to
call him a teammate. It is Country Boys Roofing, Country
with a K, Boys with a Z, Countryboysroofing dot Com.
Speaker 2 (37:39):
Let the celebration start war Sean Salisbury a Sewan Salisbury
show for.
Speaker 6 (37:46):
The games that he was picking that week, and then
of course nine point thirty astros GM Dana Brown for
his weekly visital's start working, some of you and on
the phone line, some one three two one two five
seven ninety is the number to get in.
Speaker 1 (37:58):
Roger wants to get us going.
Speaker 11 (37:59):
Good morning, Roger, Good morning fellas. Yeah, I'm I'm about
uncovering for these guys. Whenever it comes to a layup,
we're now a blown layup.
Speaker 12 (38:11):
And they handle these these uh, these teams they're they're
supposed to just destroy and they just they produced it.
They produced nothing.
Speaker 11 (38:21):
And it's getting sickening, uh watching this over and over again,
and I'm not sure why they have to have a
motivational speech, uh to destroy a teams that they need
to just walk over. And I'm sorry, but those guys
are just missing on big fat juice, you needing meatballs
right down the middle. And there's a reason why these
(38:41):
kids couldn't get out of fourth inning until yesterday. So no, man,
I'm not I'm not happy this is this is gone
long enough and not just I can't I don't know
what it is why they can't you know, just uh,
I want you want to got to play with their food,
(39:02):
so to speak, and just not even just you know,
and then there's no fight. You know, you know, Hunter
Brown's pitching a great game. Uh you know, rollers of
second base and the guys go Keystone cops and you
got us queue up the Yacity shacks and then they
don't they don't make up for it. So it's just frustrating.
Speaker 12 (39:22):
Man.
Speaker 11 (39:22):
These guys are better than this and they just choose.
Speaker 7 (39:25):
Not to be.
Speaker 13 (39:26):
And I don't know why that is.
Speaker 11 (39:28):
All right, guys, have a good one.
Speaker 6 (39:29):
Hey, you too, Roger, appreciate it, man, I mean that
is the frustrating part. And by the way, I had
been saying that they were forty and thirty seven Shawn's
against teams under five hundred this year. Well it's less
than forty. They're thirty seven and thirty three this year
against teams under five hundred. You want to know at
the end of the season, why either A you don't
win the division or b miss out on the postseason. Altogether,
(39:52):
I think we can point.
Speaker 1 (39:52):
To why this is who they are this year, Buddy,
some good, some bad, and a whole but a lot indifferent.
And Roger makes it good point. Listen, I know it's
one game. We'll hear that, but I'm not qualifying this anymore.
Speaker 8 (40:07):
It's one game that matters a lot.
Speaker 1 (40:09):
Why, because you can't get beat by a team that
quite frankly, honestly, they've looked more like a minor league
team this year than they have a major league team.
And as we talked about last week, and I specifically,
and I had a couple of good buddies, you know
that follow on Twitter, a couple of good followers on
(40:30):
Twitter talk about you know, talking with Dana last week,
and we made the point and I had asked him, well,
Jordon's hot, but what if the rest of the lineup
around him? And I asked, you begged the question to you, Dan,
it won't matter. I mean, I asked a question. But
also I stress this to you, it will not matter
how good Jordon is if there's no protection for him,
(40:51):
I said, if he can't sustain this alone now for
two while. But would you pick would you be one
willing if the protection around and him is not doing
what they need to do consistently at the plate? Would
you pitch Jim No? And you saw it last night,
I'm not right. It exactly played out the way I
(41:11):
was concerned with last week when we were talking when
I got dand Brown on Yeah, because Jordon ain't changing.
He may change the whole lineup and they may get going.
That could happen today they score twelve runs and twelve
runs three games in a row. The history of the
season says that's not going to happen about as far
as that many runs consistently, because they haven't been consistently
good at the plate this year. They've had moments of
(41:31):
good baseball at the plate and good at bats, and
they've had a bunch of non non competitive at.
Speaker 8 (41:36):
Bats throughout the season.
Speaker 1 (41:38):
But the thing is is that you're just until and
I was concerned, Okay, Jordon comes, you're putting a big
burden on his shoulders. But if I'm a pitcher, I
don't have to have an IQ of three to know
that that guy's not beating me. He's not beating me.
He missed one hundred games, you know what, one hundred
hundred plus games right around there somewhere in there. And
if he comes back inside, I don't want to be
(41:59):
the one. And they ain't even said that, Well, do
you want to be the one shout that that watches
his team get hot?
Speaker 4 (42:04):
No?
Speaker 1 (42:04):
But I can tell you what, I won't have to
be the one if everybody else isn't protected and doing
their thing because he'll never see a pitch never. I
don't need to pick. Well, he's been out one hundred games.
Wouldn't you challenge him? No, my ego's not that big
in a certain situation when I have to, Yeah, bases loaded,
we're tied, and I got to challenge him, and there's
two outs. Of course I'm not walking into winning run.
(42:26):
But in the situation at the third Inny, he's not
saying a pitch he can drive. I don't care if
it's Colorado, say the Podres or Bob Feller don drives
know and Bob Gibson, I'll come back.
Speaker 8 (42:36):
I ain't challenging him.
Speaker 6 (42:37):
He go or not.
Speaker 1 (42:37):
Why would I let him beat me. I'll make one
of you other cats beat me. I'm not doing that,
and they're capable of it. But consistently we don't know.
So the burden that we put on. I mean, it's
fine and Danny to say that he can load him
up and get going, but I'm not going to give
him a chance to load him up and get going.
If I'm the opponent, especially an opponent in the division
or that's trying to battle for playoffs. If you're gonna
(42:58):
beat me, it's going to be one of you other
cats that hasn't proven this year consistently that you can
beat another team. The whole thing, with all that being said,
I know it's baseball, it's competitive, people are getting paid,
I know how it's hard to win.
Speaker 8 (43:09):
I've said it a million times.
Speaker 1 (43:10):
But I can tell you what you can't do, and
it is absolutely one unacceptable. Let a team come in
with a guy on the mound who's not mowing you
down all year long in your building, with a one
and a half game lead, and you lose to Colorado.
Speaker 13 (43:27):
You can't.
Speaker 1 (43:27):
You just can't do it. And it's just that that
is that that is a picture of the season, Dan,
right there. That's the thing is if you just tell
them everybody's a playoff team, that then we'll be just fine.
But at this time of year, you're gonna get teams
that are ready to go home, but unfortunately you can't
(43:48):
treat them like they're ready to go home and get
to their golf clubs. And that's exactly it looked to
me like the ass's approach it. We can say all
we want, Oh, we're gonna get it all worked out
last night was inexcusable. It just was, and the optics
of it were not only inexcusable, but disinterest or this
ain't that tough. Even a team that plays minor league
(44:08):
baseball can beat you six to one in your building
when you're in a dog on division race and trying
to fight and scratch for the playoffs with all your injuries. Yeah, no, can't.
It's unacceptable and I don't know how those things happen.
And it can't just be It's one of those nights.
Speaker 8 (44:24):
It can't be. Damn, it just can't be.
Speaker 6 (44:26):
Well, both of those scenarios played out. Jord On was
not pitched to and exactly as you said, you lost
six to one, John Carl. We'll catch up with you
right here to get the seven o'clock hours started. As
it is a Western Wednesday here on the Seawan Salisbury Show.
Speaker 2 (44:41):
Ad Houston at two Houston, an iHeart radio station and
the Rocket Sports Talk seven ninety your home for your
home teams from the Parsons that match in next studios.
(45:02):
Oh very Houston. Okay, let's do this.
Speaker 14 (45:06):
Sewn Salisbury to usc true longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury, Dan Matthew,
excuse This is the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 6 (45:21):
Fall in to the Rockies last night six to one
at dyke In Park to open up this series, and
homestand Jordan Alvarez over two a couple of walks while
playing in left field. The good news is though the
Mariners do lose to the Padres seven to six in Seattle,
so the Astro is still up a game and a
half on the ms in the al West. Someone three, two, one, two, five,
(45:41):
seven ninety is the number to get in on the
phone lines. Continue, it's on the phone lines. Let's hit
up John and Fresno. John, what's going on?
Speaker 15 (45:49):
Hey? What's bunol? Guys? Nicka Houston? We got a problem, Hey, shun.
Speaker 2 (45:53):
You read on, man, You read on?
Speaker 15 (45:55):
We got a problem, man. And what Colorado did would
give a blueprint how to be dead.
Speaker 1 (45:59):
Bro.
Speaker 15 (46:00):
They not gonna pitch the You are done, regardless, He's
not gonna see no ball. Hey, look here, five your
first five players only had three hits in the whole game.
You too, We came up to the place five times,
didn't even sniffed the ball.
Speaker 1 (46:14):
And you can't.
Speaker 15 (46:15):
Have those kinds of players, uh, not not producing now
now during the last time you've seen pen you make
a double arrow and one play and start to rally.
So what I'm saying is that, And the says said,
you know, he can't hit left handle. So if I'm
the man of another team, I'm just gonna throw left
handed pitchers out there knowing that their power hitters can't
(46:38):
hit left handers and pitch around.
Speaker 8 (46:40):
You're done.
Speaker 15 (46:40):
So what the thing is we were missing is paridicly
our third basement. Because he at the top of the lineup,
he were producing runs, he was getting on base, he
was saying, gonna run. And when he left the line up,
the lineup with down to the bottom. So I looked
at a whole lot of discussion places in the in
(47:01):
the dugout. I looked at the dug out. But they
put the freeloade in and they didn't look like they
didn't look like they were still arrested. They didn't look
like they was the duos. They didn't look like, well,
you know, when I play, I play otherwise. So yeah,
we got a problem. And if they don't get this,
fix gets the team like that, hey, you forget it.
When you're talking about Boston and Yanks and they get this.
Speaker 16 (47:23):
So you right on.
Speaker 15 (47:24):
Shown you got this. I don't there. We go make
it out the first round.
Speaker 6 (47:27):
I hang up and list appreciate the call, John. I mean,
look to the point that you and John just brought
up there. I mean, you saw it play out in
the first inning last night. It's you or not Alvarez's
first hat bat. He hasn't seen real significant live pitching
in almost four months, and still the starter for the Rockies.
Gordon says, I'm not giving him anything anywhere close. That
(47:47):
was an unintentional, intentional walk because they said we don't
fear Christian Walker, but we still, even with this guy
being out for a long time, we fear that guy.
Speaker 1 (47:56):
Okay, let me ask you something. Let me look at
some Maybe baseball doesn't think like this, but as a
coach sometimes I do. Okay, if you're a Colorado organization, manager,
team front office, you know, we wonder what their commitment
is and you know where they're headed in the future.
All right. So if you're there and you got thirty
games to go, and you have been bad all year long,
(48:19):
embarrassingly bad at times, unlike last night, and you're an
organization just in a game like that, I know you're
trying to win them all. But aren't you what else
are you doing?
Speaker 15 (48:30):
Dan?
Speaker 1 (48:30):
Evaluate young players? Yeah, evaluate some veterans that you might
So even in this you're saying, okay, So in a
game like this, what do you have to lose while
you're evaluate another game? I know you don't want to
be in the record books, and I get that, but
wouldn't your normal you and I are standing the dugout
dan bench coach and manager, and we're playing the Astros,
(48:50):
and we're trying to evaluate what we got moving forward,
what kind of guts we got, and say, let's test
the young kid, meaning a pitcher, or if it's a
veteran that you want to see, if he's do you
know the staff, wouldn't you say go after him? Man,
it's early in a game. What I understand if you walk,
you know the philosophy if you're out of it, So
why walk him? Let's challenge him?
Speaker 13 (49:10):
Right?
Speaker 1 (49:11):
But even Colorado didn't do that. They're nine hundred games
out of first place. Of course, you're trying to win
them all. You're not gonna go on a twenty game
win streak. They haven't done the hell trying to get
them on a three or four five game win streaks enough.
But aren't you I know, if I'm a manager in
the seat is oh Dan, I'm looking at you, say,
hey man, let's challenge his ass, right, aren't you? Don't
you want to see what it looks like? And again
(49:32):
a game early, well, I mean, why does Colorado need
to walk somebody unintentionally intentionally early in a game? Well,
I'm trying to figure out about and I get it.
You want to win them all, but in truth, I
also need to evaluate my team and by you know,
I want to see you challenge Let's let's see you.
I want to let's let's grow together and see how
we do against good, good players. I know that sounds crazy,
(49:53):
but maybe I'm a wacko. I like that, But I
would understand if Colorado was the Mariners and he comes up.
I'm not pitching to cal right now either. I wouldn't
pitch to him. You're an idiot if you do so.
And he's had that type of season. We don't even
know about Yordon. So when you're getting your askiving, it's
like young It's like teams playing young players in December
(50:14):
if they're out of it, right, are a bowl game? Well,
let's see what he's got. You're not going to back
off from another team because you got your third running back.
Oh you step out of bands. No, he's going to
challenge him. Same thing. So Colorado you think, well, they're
just going to challenge everything because they want to prove
that they can come in here and disrupt. But they
went at it surgically like a team would that if
they were a half game out. I'm not pitching to him,
So what is the Jordan?
Speaker 7 (50:34):
What is he?
Speaker 1 (50:35):
What do they think they're going to get? Well, why
would I be that dumb.
Speaker 8 (50:39):
And throw to a guy that can destroy me?
Speaker 1 (50:42):
And if he gets going, he's like the big five
or six or seven in the league that you're like,
he can carry you. The problem is you got to
have at least two or three other guys that are
protected it. Because even if he does hit two home
runs in a game and they're both solo home runs
and you get beat seven to two, if nobody else
is driving driving the baseball, I'm not pitching to him
(51:02):
in a situation where he can hurt me, which is
from for if you're a competitive team trying to battle
for a division or playoffs, why am i letting that
guy beat me. Where do you want Christian Walker to
have to beat you first? I mean, I know he can,
but what I'm taking my chances there? Okay, I'm dumb,
but I ain't stupid. So this is what's gonna happen.
(51:22):
Unless the rest of the order is consistently good or
around in the middle of that lineup, he's not gonna
see the pitches he can drive.
Speaker 8 (51:30):
And if we do, what are we all going to say?
Speaker 1 (51:33):
What is that pitcher doing? So see, but now, until
you prove that you can do it, I'm not letting
your best player beat me. I'm not letting your best
running back beat me. I'll stack the line. You're gonna
have to throw it to beat me. Hence, Jordan Alvarez
is not gonna be the one. If I'm an opposer,
posing team is gonna beat me. Yet I thought a
team like Colorado would even challenge him because well, they're
just trying to find out about themselves and whether they
(51:53):
got to lose. But another game, well they even went
about it that way. The big fellow ain't beating me,
and that's what that's what they're going to have to answer.
And right now, consistently they can't. I just hope it
doesn't cost them down the road, Dan, a loss like this,
because these are bigger than we think they are.
Speaker 6 (52:09):
Well, never fear the guy hitting right before him in
the lineup down six to one is trying to lay
down a pushbunt.
Speaker 8 (52:16):
Yeah, and where was that in the lineup?
Speaker 1 (52:18):
Again? Dan, say it again?
Speaker 6 (52:19):
Number three in the order?
Speaker 1 (52:21):
Say it louder so people in the back can here.
Speaker 6 (52:23):
The spot in the order that's supposed to provide some
of the most power.
Speaker 1 (52:27):
Okay, how many times are you seeing and I've just
we talk about it. It almost feels like, you know,
you're struggling. We were desperate last night. Correct, That's what
it looked. Desperate. Yeah, they didn't play urgent. It just
felt laying it down. Now, I want you to go,
at what point in time do you think a third
hitter bunted this year in baseball? Probably on one hand,
(52:49):
but that I was going to say, No, I was
gonna say, do you probably think you do you think
you'd get to two hands? No? Probably the ten When
you're third hitters bunting, Do you think you do you
think you would have gotten to that this year? I'll
bet you, you wouldn't have. I bet you your third
hitter is not trying to lay down a bunch ten
times on any team in this in Major League Baseball.
Speaker 6 (53:08):
I would probably even say that a very You almost
could even be struggling to get the two hands on
teams who have bunted in general this year.
Speaker 1 (53:18):
It's full teams. I don't know, it just it was.
Speaker 17 (53:20):
It was.
Speaker 1 (53:22):
Last night was odd, and I mean it was almost
like am I really seeing this because we were adamant
about you can't you have to dominate this series, and
now you got to ramp it up. But now hopefully
that ramp up will be good. So we'll see. But
didn't they have don't they have from Ber and Alexander
going the next two?
Speaker 6 (53:40):
Yeah, one of those guys has not been good though.
Speaker 1 (53:45):
Yeah, I just it's it's it's frustrating because who I
can take a seven to one loss or six to
one loss, or four to one loss or nine to
four loss to a really really good team who's pitching, well,
those do happen. Those guys are good. It's it's hard,
especially in your building. You're not tired from travel, you
had a day off. It's a lot and the energy
(54:06):
that was supposed to be in the building last night.
From for Fromber, I mean with a Jordan, it's that
can't happen, man, you just can't. You can't do that
and and think that you're gonna end up being crowned world,
says Champs. Now, stranger things have happened. But I don't
know if they're gonna have to string together some good
stuff and they're going to have to put their foot
(54:26):
on somebody's throat because right now, meaning Colorado's Colorado did
that to them last night and it was an ugly
optic it really was.
Speaker 15 (54:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (54:34):
I mean, you lost six to one to a team
who now has thirty eight wins and had a league
worst six point er. I don't even want to look
at what it went down to after last night's game.
And oh, by the way, they'd been outscored three hundred
and forty nine runs this season. That was their run
differential going into that game. So yeah, what a performance
last night by the Astros. But again, hey, the Mariners lost,
(54:57):
so it's all good. You're still a game and a
half up in the West. Dan, I just I don't
I don't know how we can I don't I don't
know how long we can continue with that logic. I
really don't, Dan.
Speaker 1 (55:06):
It's a long season, yes right, all right, well I failure.
Speaker 6 (55:11):
Thirty thirty games is making it a lot shorter, So
you better figure out how long this season is, all right?
See a lot of you on the phone lines. We'll
work you into the conversation. But also too, it's a
little bit of a question here for the stakeout today.
Am I in the wrong here? We'll discuss it is

they're timely, they get it done, even help you pick

This Sean Salisbury Show continues on Sports Talk seven ninety
Home for your Home Teams.
Speaker 1 (56:54):
All right, Sean, what are you hearing out there now?
Speaker 2 (56:57):
The Salsbury's Takeout, Salbury take Out on the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 6 (57:04):
It's a Western Wednesday here on the Sean Salisbury Shows,
the Astros loose to the Rockies six to one to
open up the series, and homestand at Dyke in Park
ord On Alvarez over two a couple of walks while
playing left field, and his return. Texans make their cuts
to get down to their initial fifty three man roster.
Safety Jimmy Ward put on the commissioner's exempt list. Sean
(57:25):
will do a little bit of show and tell here
because I understand you have something you want to share
with the class, so please the floor is yours. And
I was gonna say, I think you're on mute. We
wait with anticipation.
Speaker 1 (57:45):
I'm not on mute.
Speaker 6 (57:46):
Oh there you are.
Speaker 1 (57:48):
Yeah, I wasn't on mute, so maybe I just wasn't
plotted up. No big deal either way. Yeah, I can
tell you this that just to give you a little
more perspective, dan on and it's not good perspective, but
a little more alarming part of last night. First off,
we know about the playoff race, and you know Boston, Toronto,
the Yankees, obviously, Detroit's got there, thank Houston, Seattle and
(58:10):
Texas is still while on the outside looking in, still
got a shot, and Kansas City's hanging around as well.
But I want you to just we talk about the differential,
just so you understand just how bad and what last
night looked and sounds like when you hear these numbers.
In the American League, the worst run differential in the
(58:30):
minus category Baltimore at seventy eight. They're in last place.
They're minus seventy eight run differential, and the Oakland Athletics
minus eighty six and the Angels are minus eighty eight.
Speaker 8 (58:42):
So in the American League eighty eight.
Speaker 1 (58:45):
Is the biggest in the plus minus the worst there
is and run differential at eighty eight. In the National League,
the Washington Nationals at one hundred and sixty two, which
is alarming enough. Then you go to Pittsburgh minus sixty six.
Most of those have happened when Skeens is pitched, but
the opera with that's what. They haven't given him runs
(59:06):
is my point. When Skeens is pitched, and then you
get all the way down to so one hundred and
sixty two, you're saying, oh my gosh, the Washington Nationals
are minus one sixty two and run differential. Then you
get down to Colorado and after last night it's like
I said, it's a minus three forty four. They are
literally so one sixty and one sixties what DAN three
(59:27):
to twenty, Yeah, they're more than half more than half
their run differential is double plus. The next worst team
in Washington this year has fifty three wins. Colorado has
won thirty eight games. There are thirty eight and ninety
four minus three forty four in the run differential. Uh,
(59:50):
and that's not including which was three forty nine last
night losing six to one. That's what you got beat
by in a game and a half run race in
the division, or your bat for the playoffs all the
way around. And this team you didn't do in Colorado
on a cold night or when somebody got hurt or
somebody got ejected. You did it in your building with
jord On back at home and got beat six to
(01:00:12):
one with a team that's won thirty eight games this
year and has been outscored by three hundred and forty
four runs.
Speaker 8 (01:00:20):
Pretty awesome to break.
Speaker 1 (01:00:21):
Yeah, that's basically so if it didn't hurt enough, that's
just the reality of the situation. When we say those
things happen, they can't happen. With thirty games to go,
they may happen, they can't. They can't happen.
Speaker 6 (01:00:37):
Well, it did unfortunately last night, because like I said,
you went zero for seven with runners in scoring position.
You leave eleven runners on base and you lose six
to one. So that's how it goes from three forty
nine down to negative three forty four. So at least
the Rockies are making progress offensively, not so much the
case for the Astros. So appreciate you sharing that with us, Sean.
Speaker 1 (01:00:58):
So I just wanted to make your worse than it was.
Speaker 6 (01:01:02):
Sorry, only only I can go up from here, at least, uh,
at least in our minds, we hope.
Speaker 13 (01:01:07):
So.
Speaker 6 (01:01:08):
But all right, So you've been in plenty of you know,
speaking of free things. You know, free food that you get,
and you know you're always told don't complain about a
free meal. It's exactly that you get what you pay for.
Speaker 1 (01:01:20):
But are you in the.
Speaker 6 (01:01:22):
Wrong for maybe questioning what the free food is? And
let me explain. So you go to a press box.
I think most people know that most of the games
we go to you don't have to pay. Some places
do make you do that. But let's just say that
the meal that night that they're serving is bone in
chicken for one of them. Chances are Sean, I mean,
(01:01:44):
I won't outwardly complain, but I can't eat that I'm
around here. Let me ask you this I don't know.
Speaker 1 (01:01:49):
Let me ask you this though. When you say bon it,
do we have to call are you talking about bone
in wings?
Speaker 18 (01:01:54):
No?
Speaker 1 (01:01:54):
No, no, no, not wings? Like what's it fried chicken?
Speaker 7 (01:01:57):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:01:58):
Yeah, like like like you get it like popeyes?
Speaker 6 (01:02:01):
Yeah, exactly?
Speaker 1 (01:02:02):
Do we have to call it bone in chicken? Or
isn't that just called chicken?
Speaker 6 (01:02:05):
Well, I mean I think in this case, yeah, you
got a differentiator, you know, Yeah, you know boneless pace because.
Speaker 8 (01:02:09):
You're talking about hands and stuff.
Speaker 1 (01:02:11):
Correct. Oh yeah, all right, so you you didn't, So
that's what they serve, Go ahead and finish.
Speaker 6 (01:02:16):
Well, I mean, that's what I'm saying. Is like at
certain places like where it's like, all right, you've got
a bunch of people here, you want to make a
bunch of different things. But it's also too doesn't convenience
have to come in a little bit?
Speaker 1 (01:02:27):
Like I get it.
Speaker 6 (01:02:28):
I understand it's a free meal, but like there's really
no easy way to eat that other than you have
to dig in with your fingers. So then after that,
then you've got to try to find every single paper
napkin out there.
Speaker 1 (01:02:41):
Wash your hands.
Speaker 6 (01:02:42):
Well, I mean, no, I get that. I truly understand
that I'm just saying.
Speaker 1 (01:02:48):
Is this at a ballpark or at somebody's house? I mean,
I got.
Speaker 6 (01:02:53):
Yeah, it's it's it's it's up to interpretation.
Speaker 8 (01:02:55):
Here wherever this is okay. So I'll give you two
different takes.
Speaker 1 (01:02:59):
If it's the situation that we're all in formal attire
and somebody serves us fried chicken, and before the event,
I would probably say, and I don't eat fried chicken,
bony and chicken with a knife and a fork.
Speaker 8 (01:03:13):
You miss me on that. I'm getting I'm diving in.
So you're right about that.
Speaker 1 (01:03:16):
But free meal or not free meal, it's hard if
it was at a ballpark, or it was at a
big where you don't know everybody that's coming. Does that
make sense? Like if you had a press pass, or
if if you had a dinner for twelve and it
was a formal dinner, you're probably not serving fried chicken
because of the mess. It may But if I have
friends over, let's say that I'm catering to meal and
(01:03:37):
we're watching sports in college football Saturday, and I catered
to fried chicken and we're digging in and it's fried chicken.
You got to just and a bunch of people are here,
but I invited a bunch of people. I ain't taking
everybody's menu. I'm not taking everybody. Hey, oh you're coming
over to my house. Here's what we're serving now. I
would come into mind, well, it's I would try to
(01:03:59):
take into mind the situation, but dive in so it
would have the venue and where we are would have
to come into play. But if I go to the
ballpark and they've got hot dogs and fried chicken and
I don't want to do it, or if it's somewhere
that's that. It wasn't a meal for ten of us,
but it was just a big you know, there's a
bunch of people coming. You don't know who's coming. I
don't have a problem with the fried chicken. Even hold
(01:04:20):
it with a napkin while you eat it. Does that
make sense? You know, paper napkins so it doesn't get
out your fingers.
Speaker 6 (01:04:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:04:25):
But the reason why I'm a little bit on the
other side of this is because dude, I will eat
the assend out of a dead buzzer to eat fried chicken.
I'm a I'm a phenomen I'm fanatic for fried chicken,
love it like I do pizza. So I but I
get what you're saying on the mess part, but man,
if it's good fried chicken, dude, I'm willing for you.
(01:04:47):
I'm willing to get the grease out later, I am.
But formal no, it's probably not a good site. So
if you set the scene, I could probably answer, yep,
you're right, but it's free. But you do reserve the
right not to eat the free meal. But it's a
bummer if that's the only part of the meat or
the meat and potatoes, part of the meal that you
get is fried chicken. But dude, I put my head
in that thing first. That's how much I like fried chicken.
Speaker 6 (01:05:08):
Well, I mean, I'm just one that you never go
wrong with convenience chicken tenders case it he is, maybe
even pizza. Hell, you know, there's a certain fast food
giant that makes really good chicken sandwiches. And sometimes you'll
go to an event. They got one of those heater
bags right there.
Speaker 1 (01:05:24):
Just so where your free meal was. You don't have
to sell anybody out. You don't have to name the
places at an event. Yeah it was. It was a
press box. Okay, all right, there you go. So you're
not doging anybody. I'm sure the fried chicken was good,
you just did so. But but I mean, I don't know, man,
I guess it was maybe one of those nights, right,
(01:05:44):
I don't know that. But if there was the other
to choose from, other than fried chicken, not that I
could see.
Speaker 6 (01:05:50):
Now Okay, well now now, now, now that makes a
little more sense because I mean there's there's got to
be typing on a computer, all of that kind of stuff.
I mean, you in your phone, then you're like, oh
there's a grease smudge.
Speaker 1 (01:06:02):
Awesome, get your ass off your phone while you eating
your chicken. Put it down. You tell your kid to
do it. Put your phone down at the dinner table,
be present, your phone down, turn it over, eat your
fried chicken, watch a baseball game, and then take your
ass to the bathroom and wash your hands. It's soft
ass Woodlands guy. No I'm kidnapped.
Speaker 6 (01:06:21):
Hey, I mean, there are there are some things that
I'm willing to bend on. But you know it's one
of those too that appearances do matter to a certain point.
Speaker 1 (01:06:28):
Your pass on fried chicken, dude, you can't do that.
Speaker 6 (01:06:31):
Well I probably should given my appearance.
Speaker 1 (01:06:35):
Nah, dude, listen, you making great progress every now and
then it resets it. I know, do you go you're
eating right every now and then to go get a
cheap meal or one of those it kicks that metabolism
back in. Man, I'm not sure myself lose it. So dude,
and you know what, it's football season. You just got
to gear up and it's every now and again you're
gonna get some victuals that maybe you didn't want to
(01:06:57):
but you love and you don't want to eat it,
but you do want to eat it. Dive in, brother,
I'll sacrifice grease on a piece of paper for for
good fried Chicken. So I'm gonna stand on the other
opposition this but in a formal suit and tie, which
I know damn well know those guys in the press
box are wearing unless you're on the broadcast, unless you
have to, like a TV broadcast. And I don't blame
(01:07:18):
you covering the game. I'm okay, man, put a bib on.
Let's go.
Speaker 6 (01:07:23):
No no regrets. That's that's Sean's credo right.
Speaker 1 (01:07:26):
There, right, Good Fried Chicken. Kidding me, No, No, it's.
Speaker 6 (01:07:31):
It's definitely one that you'll definitely throw some punches for. That's,
by the way, for sure, cold fried chicken kicks cold
pizza's ass six ways to Sunday and twice on Sunday.
I don't know, cold fried chickens better than cold pizza.
Speaker 1 (01:07:46):
I can't rock with you on that, man. I can
cold fried chicken the next day with like heated matt
Oh yeah, cold fried chicken right out of the bucket
the next day, but a little little salt on it
and get going is far better than cold pizza. Reheated
either one of them, like reheated the microwave not good?
Do you get by with pizzas more acceptable for me?
(01:08:08):
I can eat it better, you know, and from the microwave,
but you got to put it back on the grill
or in the oven and warm it up that way,
so at least it's decent. But if you're just pulling
them both out of refrigerator, I know it won't be poper.
I'll eat a cold like the white meat chicken breast
with with the you know from Popeyes, quicker than i'll
eat cold pizza the next I will warm the pizza,
(01:08:29):
but I'll eat cold chicken.
Speaker 6 (01:08:30):
Oh, I'm a cold pizza guy. It's just it's one
more quick note on this it's funny. A buddy of
mine brought this up a few years ago, and once
I started to think about it, I was like, you
know what, you're right. Like you ever noticed that to
go burgers from restaurants are never good like they It's
always soggy. It's just it's not the same.
Speaker 1 (01:08:48):
You got to eat it immediately. And I'll tell you
another thing. If you do, try to save it. There's
nothing worse on a burger, the soggy bun. But like
reheated tomatoes. Oh yeah, if you get a tomato on yourself.
That's why I'm a big believer. All the hot stuff
goes on and you put the lettuce, the tomato. The
vegetables go on cold on a hot burger, not hot
(01:09:09):
now hot lettuces, you get the wilted part of the
next day. Let us know. If you don't need a
burger within like a half hour of getting it, you
know what's cooling off even if you're driving home. Oh no,
I'm with you.
Speaker 8 (01:09:20):
It sits around.
Speaker 1 (01:09:21):
Forget it. That's nasty and and and those vegetables that
get to know. As a matter of fact, I'll take
if I have a burger left over, I'll take the
vegetables off the next day and suffer through if you
heat it. But there's nothing it tastes. It's nasty eating
a next day burger, there's no doubt.
Speaker 6 (01:09:36):
All yeah, not one of the better reheatables, that's for sure.
See a bunch of you, you get on the phone lines,
working into the conversation. You want to join us. Seven one, three,
two five, seven ninety is the number to get in.
Speaker 1 (01:09:49):
The shot.
Speaker 6 (01:09:49):
Salvesbury Show continued Carl and Dickinson. Carl, good morning.
Speaker 19 (01:09:56):
Hey, you know when you're at the wrong formal party,
don't you When they come out and serve them the sausages.
Speaker 1 (01:10:03):
A little smoke, he says.
Speaker 20 (01:10:05):
Advisers.
Speaker 1 (01:10:07):
See, it's not very formal day, Carl.
Speaker 6 (01:10:09):
They told you to dress up and they didn't dress
themselves up. I get it.
Speaker 19 (01:10:15):
Well, anyway, I'm just calling in y'all.
Speaker 11 (01:10:18):
Got me hooked, man.
Speaker 19 (01:10:19):
Every morning I'm listening to y'all. But Sean is spot on.
He threw the turret and the punch bowl. But you know, man,
the problem is, we're not dynasty building right now. All
I see is a bucket with holes in it, and
they're but patching it with old veterans or x yesterday's
(01:10:39):
Superstars and they're good one day and terrible three days.
You know, we need to get that guy Jeff back.
If I had that much money invested in the Astros, I'd.
Speaker 1 (01:10:49):
Go back and eat little cheese.
Speaker 19 (01:10:51):
Get that GM in here, get a coach that can
motivate these guys.
Speaker 1 (01:10:55):
This is terrible.
Speaker 19 (01:10:57):
Seawan's being really nice about saying, you know, the negatives,
because I mean, I know how he really feels about it.
Speaker 1 (01:11:06):
But I appreciate y'all man, and that's the only thing
holding me on.
Speaker 18 (01:11:10):
And you know, thank you.
Speaker 19 (01:11:12):
I appreciate you making my morning every day.
Speaker 8 (01:11:14):
Thank you, guys, I appreciate it.
Speaker 15 (01:11:16):
Carl.
Speaker 1 (01:11:17):
Yeah, Carl, thanks for the comment. And basically what you're
saying is that I try to be a glass out
full guy. They got their ass headed toil last night.
I'm trying to make chicken salad out of class nights
promark find by the way, I hear you, Carl, that
was classic and viaa sausage. Yeah, I'm a I'm a
big no on those, so I'm with him. I uh hey,
they got toothpecks, yeah, thank you, and they can keep
(01:11:39):
a toothpiture to get something out of my teeth not
to eat a Vienna sausage, so you'll pass on that.
But yeah, try because I'm trying to hold out hope
that it's still you know, until it's done, it's done
the season. But because you've seen flashes, I'm trying to
hope the flashes last a little longer of brilliance, you know,
Dan in these last thirty games and getting yord On back.
But yeah, I am disgruntled and to Bob, losing these
(01:12:01):
games against a team that hasn't won forty games and
it's in your building, I don't know. It felt like
they came in and pulled the old bamboozo okie doke
on you in front of your whole family and stuff,
and it's just those those kinds. You just can't lose
those games this late in the season. It's inexcusable. So
the only reason I'm being kind is because I'm holding
out hope they're still in first place. Imagine what the
(01:12:22):
conversation would be if they were four games out. If
if we're like and this is how they were losing.
You know, you get that hope. And that's why you
saw in Baltimore flashes of it, like okay and you
come back here and you say, come on, man, you're
going to go let's look at it. We're going to
dominate these three, right, that's the frustration, and it's championship
teams don't do this. They just don't, and whether people
(01:12:43):
want to hear that or not, they just don't. And
the inconsistencies this year say non championship team, but when
they're really good and when they're pitching like they are,
you're saying, damn, this is a championship team.
Speaker 8 (01:12:54):
So they've hinted at it.
Speaker 1 (01:12:56):
The problem is that the flirting with it hasn't lasted
long enough insistently. And I'm not giving the order on
anything to hit, So that's that's a problem. And you
can't let a team come in like that. And basically
basically your double A team came in and beat you
last night. That's what happened. Well at a competitive time,
not when the gate, not when you're fifteen games up
and you're not playing your people, right that that excuses
(01:13:18):
out the win. You got beat in your building by
guys that are some way trying to make a roster
on your team. How many guys are starting on the
on the astros on that team when they're healthy currently
right now on the Rockies, I mean, how many guys,
how many how many guys are starting? You started to
get there's your third basement starting over Korea? No, over Pania,
No al tuove, probably not yin or no, I mean
(01:13:41):
to start to left field? What's that?
Speaker 6 (01:13:44):
So their catcher did homer last night?
Speaker 1 (01:13:46):
But right, so, so if you have one one maybe
at times but probably not were they were? How many
starters you're pulling out of that on this team? And
they can pitching staff as well. So I don't know,
while it is one loss, but that one loss does
matter because at the end of the season you go
back and look at the three or four ten times,
you say we let the one get away again you
(01:14:08):
triple bogie to par five last night period, That's exactly
what they did.
Speaker 6 (01:14:13):
Yeah, well, I mean you're a lot more harsh than
I was. I said a double bogie, but still I
mean plus now four pleaded Yeah forur pludded brother. Yeah,
the short game was not good. Even the long game too,
because they duck hooked it off the off the tea box.
All right, John Brad Brandon, see you guys right there
working in a couple of spots open if you want
to jump aboard seven one three two one two five
(01:14:34):
seven ninety against Semon one three two one two five
seven ninety. And also to something that was just brought
up right there by Carl. It's a question that I've
asked before. We'll reprise it here. It is the Shawn
Salisbury Show, Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 1 (01:14:47):
Hey, guys, I'm so grateful to have Daisy Dips now
it's part of our team and it's that time of year, right.
I want to tell you all about my new obsession,
which is Daisy French onion dip. And I went into
the grocery store and picked it up this past weekend.
One of my guilty pleasures during football season is the chips,
(01:15:07):
the wings, the veggies while watching the big games. Sometimes
that's even better than a big meal itself. Right, And
now Daisy has come out with this delicious Daisy French
Onion dip and Daisy Ranch dip, and they are game changers, heck,
for some of us that like it enough, life changers.
Speaker 21 (01:15:23):
Right.
Speaker 1 (01:15:23):
They are as delicious as a homemade dip, and they're
made with real herbs and spices and other ingredients you
find in your own kitchen, but you don't have to
because they got it done for you. It's hard to
make sure when you go in there, you go to
the daisy dip section right there, and you take it home,
stick in that refrigerator. And the problem is when you
(01:15:45):
bring family over and you prepare the meal, the one
thing they're gonna want, our friends is let me get
to that daisy dip as opposed to all the other
good stuff you got. That's how good it is. You
can find it in your local grocery store. It's look
for daisy dip. French onion dip as well, is that
ramch dip. Either one of them will set you free.
It's daisy dip at your local grocery store.
Speaker 2 (01:16:08):
The Jean Salisbury Show continues here.
Speaker 6 (01:16:12):
Let's go John on the Northwest Side. John, good morning, Hey.
Speaker 2 (01:16:16):
Guys, good morning.
Speaker 22 (01:16:17):
Uh yeah, I was just going to say, you know,
I'm kind of following the crowd here. I mean, there's
just too many. It was just one of those nights times,
you know, when the gashers are at home. The one
thing I do like and you know, it's kind of
a terrible thing to say or think, but you know,
the ashers are going to be on the road, I
think twice as much in September as they.
Speaker 3 (01:16:36):
Are going to be at home.
Speaker 1 (01:16:37):
I think they got twelve games on the road.
Speaker 22 (01:16:40):
In September and I think there's six, you know, at home.
And I find that encouraging because they just never have that,
you know, and I've called in many times. They just
say they just don't have that look in their eye
when they're at home, and I don't understand it. But
so I think that's that's encouraging the fact that they're
going to be on the road more in September.
Speaker 1 (01:17:00):
Than at home.
Speaker 22 (01:17:02):
And the other thing is, you know, this guy, this
catcher in Seattle, cal Raleigh, what he's doing is really amazing.
I mean, he's got forty nine home runs. I don't
think a catcher has ever hit more than forty home
runs in the history of baseball. I think maybe once
it was done. But that guy's a shot at sixty
and that's that's really something that this guy's doing. I
(01:17:25):
got to admit, I'm very impressed with this guy to
switch hitter, and I don't know, that's really impressive stuff
going on there in Seattle.
Speaker 1 (01:17:33):
I have to admit.
Speaker 22 (01:17:34):
So I just want to weigh in on that.
Speaker 6 (01:17:36):
Thanks, guys, appreciate John. I don't really know what he
means by the look in their eyes, Sean, they're thirty
eight and twenty eight at home. They're two games over
five hundred on the road. Like it's got nothing to
do with that. They don't play well at home. They
haven't played well at home lately, but they're better at
home than they are on the road.
Speaker 1 (01:17:57):
And for me, it's just a sense of urgency at home.
I don't know the look, you know. I can't tell,
you know. I try to give athletes the benefit of
the doubt, thinking who shows up not ready to play?
I mean, I know you're going to get beat, But
who goes into a games thinking? And I know it's
human nature, We've all been there. It's like you feel
a little more casual this or this is a get
right stats game, right, that feeling, Oh, we're supposed to
(01:18:19):
beat these guys. It happens in football all the time.
Then I happens in football all the time. That's how
Vegas gets rich. Oh they're they're they're this is team
that are going to beat by forty and you lose
by the they win by three touchdowns and you lose
your money or it's a close that that's how they
get rich because oh there's this one, this is the cakewalk.
Well there's there's really no cakewalk, but there's ones that
(01:18:41):
are supposed to be. Okay, you can't lose if you're
Alabama or LSU in the football game. You just can't
get beat by Slippery Rock in November, with a game
that's going to cost you a trip to the playoffs.
You just can't. You can't do it. You may not
play your best game, you may only beat him by
an ugly win. We see those all the time.
Speaker 8 (01:19:02):
You can't. You can't do it.
Speaker 1 (01:19:03):
And while I know there's thirty to go, I know,
and they're still in first, all that fine and dandy,
but if you'd lose that, you'll say, well, that one
game would have mattered in the end, and it does,
and then you coming now and there's a little more
pressure and you're like, Okay, Now, maybe they've just got
ice in their veins and nothing bothers them. But as
far as looking their eye and that that part, I
don't know, but I can tell you this, there was
(01:19:25):
there was not a sense of urgency or focused last night,
because you can't tell me, well, man, Colorado is really good.
Speaker 8 (01:19:30):
They're not.
Speaker 1 (01:19:31):
They've won thirty eight games. They haven't won forty games
this year. So even when they're playing at their best,
you at eighty percent should beat them. That's the only
that's just the facts. I know they happen. It's sports.
Ah blah blah blah. I get it. But if you're
trying to get where you got to go, these are
the ones you got to guard against. So home or away,
what have you. It looked to me like it was
(01:19:52):
a disinterested team.
Speaker 8 (01:19:54):
That's all.
Speaker 1 (01:19:54):
Well, maybe that's just performance, and Colorado got them on
a night where they were feeling free and easy and
let it go. But with all those factors favoring them
coming into this game, and then it's the push forward
that like, okay, if they don't take care of this, Okay,
what happens if they lose again to Colorado. We're saying,
it's a long season, and men, we're close. What's our answer?
(01:20:20):
I mean, I can only judge by I'm not worried
about Game seventeen now. Now, at the end of the year,
they may go back and say Game twenty one was bad.
But I'm not worried about that now. It's tonight. But
the only thing we got to talk about is it's
a what pro sports is always what have you done
for me lately? You can lead, you can be the
MVP of the league. The next year they want you fired.
If you're a quarterback and throws three picks a game
(01:20:40):
for the first two games, you can be coach of
the year. Start out one and three, they'll be begging
for your job. They'll want to fire you. That's we're
in a gratification instant now. So when we're talking on
the good stuff that they did in Baltimore and we're oh,
they're back, look at the bats awoke, Well, don't you
have to have the same energy for when they urinate
(01:21:01):
down their leg more than once in a game? Yeah,
like the last two games, right, So that you just
can't that that, Dan, We just have to accept the
fact that you hope you get it right and go
on a run. But in truth, this is exactly who
this team is this year. Last night was the poster
child for oh hey, this one. Now in the next year,
(01:21:24):
you can probably expect today or tomorrow for them to
go take them to the woodshed and win. Whether it's
there to win the game and play well to you know,
but that's who they are. They're up and down. Man,
it's been up and down. And you can't do that
one hundred and thirty games and say, well, that's not
who we are. That's exactly who they are this year.
They're talented, but they they seem to underachieve in games
(01:21:46):
are supposed to win.
Speaker 6 (01:21:48):
But hey, they put together some good at Batch Sean.
They get some good contact, I know, and we get.
Speaker 8 (01:21:53):
That straighten it out, Dan, straighten it out, you know,
and they hit it fair.
Speaker 1 (01:21:58):
But you still got dominated by a team that's been
outscored by three hundred and forty four runs this year.
Speaker 6 (01:22:03):
Three for eighteen, your last runners in scoring position chances
for the Astros here real quick, let's squeeze in, Brad, Brad,
what's going on?
Speaker 23 (01:22:12):
Man?
Speaker 7 (01:22:12):
I noticed ever since Paradeus went down, they they haven't
been the same except for the Yankees and there on
the road. I don't think they've been the same team.
And he was the true power hitter. I know you're
saying you're you're the guy that just came back, but
don't know nothing.
Speaker 13 (01:22:32):
Yeah, we don't know if he's going to be a power.
Speaker 6 (01:22:35):
You really didn't know Jord's name?
Speaker 7 (01:22:36):
Come on, man, well I haven't seen him forever, so
I forgot, you know, But I do you know Parade's name.
He elected to take a shot. He elected to go
down to Florida. I wish you guys would hire to
undercover uh inspect investigator because they're so secretive. What has
(01:22:59):
he been doing it in Florida? Is he practicing down there?
Or is he just not playing at all? I mean
that guy was I don't know where he would play
if he came back, I'd tell him to start getting
a first Baseman's because I don't like walk for one on,
he's been a failure.
Speaker 13 (01:23:17):
I don't care what anybody says.
Speaker 7 (01:23:19):
I'd rather have praise back. And I'm telling you they
weren't losing like this when Brady's.
Speaker 1 (01:23:24):
Is playing, So maybe fight.
Speaker 7 (01:23:28):
Can you research how many wins the Astros had when
he went down, and how many went and what's their
record been since he went down?
Speaker 1 (01:23:38):
Yeah, and you can an you can google it on
your phone too, but we can do that yet.
Speaker 8 (01:23:42):
Pretty simple.
Speaker 1 (01:23:43):
Just ask the Astros record without Esac Paradis, so you'll
you'll get an answer, but there's no doubt that he was.
He has been, aside from Payne, was your most consistent
player power wise as well. Uh not the pain you
for power, but Paradis was a great get and it
shows that they're missing him because he gave great at bat.
Speaker 8 (01:24:02):
So unfortunately it hasn't worked out.
Speaker 1 (01:24:06):
But Partis isn't gonna play this year, guys, just so
you understand, you can't count on him. He's not that ham.
Even if he does, you can't expect much. He didn't
get surgery, but I wouldn't expect much from him in
thirty games.
Speaker 6 (01:24:16):
He's also been working out here in Houston, and I
know posted something on Instagram yesterday like coming soon or
something like that.
Speaker 1 (01:24:22):
But let's hope it's this year, but I can't anticipate.
Put it this way, that's just a bonus manute. And
considering the length of some of these injuries, if this
comes back, it'll be one hundred and eighty degrees of
what we've seen right what he's supposed to get surgery
to deny it and now he's just rehabbing it. If
you get him back, it'll be a great blessing. I
just wouldn't count on it. Everything's blessing and cherry on
top if you do. Yep.
Speaker 6 (01:24:44):
He went out on July nineteenth, and since then, in
July they were six and five. But to Brad's point, yes,
this has been a totally different lineup without Parretis, And
I mean, you know, just trying to be able to
find somebody that can fill what he was able to
do for you, which was put together really good at bats,
work counts, and also be able to provide some power
(01:25:05):
for you because he was your home run leader for
a time before he went out. But anyway, Brad, appreciate
you calling us, even if you were calling us from
a submarine. Bill Brandon, see, guys right there working into
the conversation that question that I got that somebody brought up.
I do want to get into that here as we
start the eight o'clock hour on a Western Wednesday Sports
Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 1 (01:25:25):
I am a dip guy, you say, sham Will kind Well,
I can tell you what kind of dip. Daisy French
onion dip and the daisy ranch dip. Now I am.
I'm like the finger food appetizer chips, you know, throw
a fredo in their chips to get the dips. Sometimes
to the point on college game day or during Saturday studies,
get up put the spread. It always has the daisy
(01:25:48):
French onion dip or the daisy ranch tip. Was in
a local grocery store over the weekend picking it up,
and why because well, the other foods fine and dandy
later in the day, but in order to get you through.
And don't you do it on holidays too. You do
it on Labor Day, you do it on holidays.
Speaker 8 (01:26:01):
You do it sports and it's sports season.
Speaker 1 (01:26:03):
This is daisy French onion dip and ranch dip time
a year, right, and now it comes out with this
delicious French onion dip. As an obsession of mine. They
are delicious as homemade dip. You can add whatever you
want to be you won't need to because they got
the real irves and spices and the other ingredients you'd
find in your own kitchen. But they're doing it for you.
Pop on into your local grocery store and find out
(01:26:24):
what I already know and have known. And I am
grateful to be part of this where I get to
well spend my college football Saturday and Sundays or any
other day of the week doing what really is the
strength of a meal My chips and dips, and it's
Daisy French onion dip and daisy ranch dip.
Speaker 17 (01:26:43):
I can go to my.
Speaker 1 (01:26:43):
Refrigerator and take a picture. You'll see it now, visualize it,
and then go out and do it. Get to your
local grocery store and look for daisy French onion dip
at a grocery store near you.
Speaker 2 (01:26:55):
KBMS Houston, Houston, an iHeartRadio station, the Astrot Rockets, Rockets
Basketball your home for your home teams. This is Sports
Talk seven ninety from the Parsons and match in next studios.
Speaker 1 (01:27:14):
Salisbury, Obsbury, Houston.
Speaker 2 (01:27:20):
Okay, let's do this Sewn Salisbury.
Speaker 3 (01:27:25):
To usc true longtime friend Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 2 (01:27:27):
Dan Matthews. This is the Sewan Salisbury Show.
Speaker 6 (01:27:36):
You gonna join us coming up here at the bottom
of the Sour getting a little bit of college football
with him. And also the Astros losing last night six
to one to the Rockies open up the series. The
Mariners do lose to the San Diego Padres seven to six,
so that means Stro's still up a game and a
half on Seattle in the West, all right, So I
took Brad up on his question and just looked it
(01:27:57):
up really quick. Ever since he sucked, Redis went out.
He went out mid game on July nineteenth against the
Seattle Mariners. They ended up losing that game seven to six.
But ever since then, they're sixteen and eighteen as a
team without him. I don't know what the hitting statistics are,
but still they've been an under five hundred baseball team
without him in the lineup.
Speaker 1 (01:28:20):
For obvious, and I think Dan we knew from a distance.
We saw that with the naked eye, right, and when
you put the stats up, it's fairly alarming. But and
while injuries have befell them, you didn't have this on
your Bengo card when the season started, either as good
as you wanted him to play replacing Bregman. If I'd
have said, hey man, he's going to miss some games
and they're going to be a worse team when he leaves,
(01:28:42):
that that's going to be part of your belcow this year.
Not that he's not a good player, but we didn't
expect it, and he elevated and it's working counts, which
he is as good as there is in the lineup.
And who was who the guy he replaced was pretty
good at that too, right, and Bragman at third. So yeah,
I mean, and I think the optics pointed out you
didn't even need to validate it, even though you did.
(01:29:02):
Meaning that. I think that when he made the point
that it would bore itself out even without us looking
at the numbers, because and not on they felt that
the numbers bear it out. So they are different, and
they are different without him. They are different with the injuries,
but people go through it. Attrition and all that kicks in.
But it's pretty alarming that they while playing against poor
(01:29:24):
teams and losing a guy like that. How big a
difference one guy can make. So you're counting on Jordon
to pick that slack up times too, right. But the
difference is you're going to pitch to Paradis. You're not
going to pitch this guy because of the reputation. When
Paradis is in the line up, you say, I'll get
but he forces you with your on. You're not gonna
get a chance to extend counts. They're gonna put his
(01:29:44):
ass on and make everybody else beach. I would and
as you go get playing against good teams that are
in the hunt. Let alone a team that hadn't won
forty games that they are not gonna be. They're not
going to be the one says I'm just gonna let
this guy pound me into submission and let him carry them.
Speaker 8 (01:30:00):
You're going to make them earn it. You don't let
them know.
Speaker 1 (01:30:01):
You never in any sport, let the best player beat
you if you can, if you can prevent it. Unfortunately,
like in basketball, if you put the ball in shake
Gil just Alexander's hand, He's going to get the ball
in his hand. At least I can prevent Jordan Alvarez
from putting his fat on the ball. Football, even if
you say we're going to stack the box. Sometimes Barry
(01:30:22):
Sanders just better than your nine cats that are up
at the line of scrimmage. But in this case, I
literally can control this. I can control it. And how
you can't control it if you're the Astros to prevent
it is Rake with other guys. And that was my
concern when Dana was talking about last week about Jordon's
going to change the whole course, and he may. We've
got one game with him in there.
Speaker 8 (01:30:42):
Okay, I get it, but my concern.
Speaker 1 (01:30:45):
Was what about everybody else. What about the protection to
make sure he gets to see some pitches and until
proven otherwise consistently, Jordon's not saying I'd rather even if
it's a single that he hits, I'd rather that be
a walk. You want to know why, because I don't
want him to start feeling it. If I'm an opponent,
you're still wondering about yourself when you walk, even though
(01:31:06):
it's like it's like a basic, but with yourself, and
you've been out that much that long, you're still wondering, Okay,
I got to get into this rhythm. If they're not
giving you a chance to get into the rhythm, even
a hard single can turn your whole, you know, the
whole thing around. I'm not giving him a chance to
even turn that around. You don't even get to swing it, dude.
And I'm gonna make sure that other guys either feel it.
(01:31:28):
They're either gonna wilt or they're gonna come through the
history of the Astros is they come through? Question is
is this team good enough of the plate this year
to do that well?
Speaker 6 (01:31:36):
I would probably say that the overall body of work
says no. That more often than not, what you got
in Baltimore and a few series before this season, that's
been the anomaly. This has been what you've been. I mean,
it's sure as you're born, Sean, this is what this
lineup has been more often and not so. Guess what
a pattern makes you who you are?
Speaker 1 (01:31:55):
Yep, you know who they are at the plate, damn.
And I know pains to say they're the They're the
once in a whiles. You know it could happens. They're
the once in a while. Once in a while. Yeah,
they're gonna they'll come through. They're not the It's not
the other way.
Speaker 8 (01:32:09):
Around where you like when they come up, you're like, Man.
Speaker 1 (01:32:12):
If you're opposing team, this team's consistently so you can't.
You've got to You've got to do a bunch of
different stuff as a pitcher or as an opposing team.
With this one, I think teams feel like they can
challenge them and go do their thing and that the
Asses aren't aren't equipped this year, they're the once in
a whiles. They'll get you once in a while, but
(01:32:33):
once in a while it's not gonna get you where
you want to go, and once in a while gets
you to the playoffs. When you're as talented as some
of the there's a Hunter Brown and this team can be,
but once in a while doesn't get you through it,
because guess what, the good pitching can stop the once
in a while hitting team. It's the team that hits
more than once in a while that there's a problem.
And the team that consistently drives in runs when they're
(01:32:53):
in scoring position and assists the pitcher who's not having
his best night even though he's still strong, but you know,
gives six earned runs. You got to match it. And
against Colorado three hundred and forty four. The run differential,
it should it shouldn't be difficult to hang four or
five runs on the Colorado Rockies. It just shouldn't.
Speaker 8 (01:33:10):
And they've proven that.
Speaker 1 (01:33:11):
All year long. Yeah, unfortunately that is the Castros get
to forty wins, Dan, when did they get the forty wins?
Speaker 8 (01:33:17):
Thirty eight wins?
Speaker 1 (01:33:18):
I'm just I mean, I don't need you to look
at that, just kind of when would they have got
to thirty eight wins this year?
Speaker 6 (01:33:24):
Well, I mean, like I said, the All Star break, right, yeah,
I mean, because as I said, you know, since he
went out with the injury, that was your first series
back from the All Star break that was sixteen wins ago.
Speaker 1 (01:33:34):
So seventy one seventy two wins.
Speaker 6 (01:33:38):
Yeah, so.
Speaker 1 (01:33:40):
Yeah, think about that. So you're taking that into the fifties,
right yeah, right, yeah, so that's fifty six. Okay, now
now go eighteen wins less. When did they get the
thirty eight or thirty nine wins?
Speaker 6 (01:33:54):
I mean yeah without June? Yeah, I mean that's that's
what I'd have to believe.
Speaker 1 (01:33:58):
Yeah, sometime in June, dude, in September, this week Labor Days,
this weekend, the Colorado Rockies. The Astros ran by thirty
eight wins. When your kid was, when your high school
kids were graduating from their previous grade around that time,
think about that, and you let him, You let him
(01:34:20):
two step right into your building. And if you're not
pissed as a player, which I give this team credit,
I believe they are.
Speaker 13 (01:34:29):
I do.
Speaker 8 (01:34:30):
I ride with them, but they're not above criticism.
Speaker 1 (01:34:33):
If you're not pissed as an Astros player after what
you saw last night in your building, then it won't
matter how hard you.
Speaker 8 (01:34:41):
Root, brother, it just won't not this year.
Speaker 1 (01:34:44):
So they got resilience, but resilience and grit.
Speaker 8 (01:34:48):
Like I said to Dana last week. All that matters
that I got news for you.
Speaker 1 (01:34:51):
Guess what. Guess what replaces grit. Grit will lead you
to it. But you can grit your way into submission
unless you get production out of that grit. It's got
to in the end, game's got to be the production
of all that grind and the resilience you put in.
And they do, but still got to be production on
the other end, and it's been inconsistent. Production is exactly
why a team comes into your building and beat you
(01:35:12):
in your building and shell axe you at home and
you scored one run for Hunter Brown.
Speaker 6 (01:35:18):
No exactly, I mean, it's just soon enough. You're spinning
your wheels. By the way, June twelfth against the Chicago
White Sox is when they got their thirty eighth one
of the season.
Speaker 1 (01:35:26):
So the kids were on their first the kids were
going to the pool and on their first vacation when
you were out of June school or late May school. Yeah, exactly,
think about that. Now, that's when, and that is when
the Astros got their thirty eighth to fortieth win. And
the Colorado Rockies aren't there yet.
Speaker 6 (01:35:44):
Well, they just got there last night, So sooner or later.
I guess eventually it'll pay off. All right, Bill, see
you right there working into the conversation. Also, do want
to transition a little bit into some college football because
one of the local teams here said something that people
said was brash. I actually we love it. We'll discuss
it is the Sean Salisbury Show on a Western Wednesday
(01:36:04):
Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 1 (01:36:06):
Hey, guys, executive, when you get a DNM, you know
when you get an executive and that they I'll be
talking about the ideal customer and who writes checks for
ultra luxury cars that is having second thoughts about that
depreciation we all do right when you drive it off
the lot. Is it someone who trades every three years,
constantly accumulating negative equity while making higher payments every time,
(01:36:31):
or is it a budget conscious customer looking to say
forty to fifty percent on a monthly payment, forty to
fifty percent on a monthly payment with reasonable terms. His
answer was, when you talk to an executive, it's all
of them and more, white glove concierge experience at less costs,
luxury SUVs, sports cars, pickup trucks, family Sedan's well at
(01:36:53):
DNM leasing, they do it all. With fifty thousand active
customers in forty nine years in business, we have the
program for you and our experts currently stand by leasing's
not renting, okay, it's it's the smarter option for most
because right, you don't have to give away that down payment.
Speaker 15 (01:37:11):
Right.
Speaker 1 (01:37:11):
If you've listened to us all these years, almost fifty
of them, and have not reached out, it's time to
call now. It's seven one three two nine zero one thousand.
That's seven one three two nine zero one thousand, or
go visit them at dmauto leasing dot com. It's time
start saving your money but getting the vehicle you want.
(01:37:32):
It's Dnmaudoleasing dot com.
Speaker 2 (01:37:36):
The Sean Salisbury Show continues and no now you know,
so what's up?
Speaker 16 (01:37:45):
Actually? I want to get in on some food real quick,
because I got to go back to what you guys
were talking about and what you need to do. Since
high school football starts Friday night in the state of Texas,
you need to get your butt down here to Galveston County.
You can get home base pieces. You can get local
pizza places, Papa seedars, taco places, pulled pork sandwich is
(01:38:08):
made at home. Every press box down here in this
county serves really nice food that you could actually eat
in the press box that I've been doing it all
my life for forty years, thirty two in Indiana. I'm
gonna start my seventh year as a thirty nine said
my seventh year here in Texas on Friday night. If
you're looking for some quick and easy press box food,
(01:38:29):
come on out to a Friday night football game.
Speaker 6 (01:38:31):
I'm gonna take you up on that. Man loves some
high school football.
Speaker 17 (01:38:34):
I'm telling you.
Speaker 16 (01:38:35):
I'm telling you.
Speaker 13 (01:38:36):
If you can't come tell here.
Speaker 16 (01:38:37):
I'm sure you could go to Katie or the Woodlands
or spring her you know a subplace out inside you
know Cyprus. They'll hook you up, man, they will. That's
the one thing I love about Texas. Texas football is great.
The stadiums are fabulous, but damn the press box food
is elite, man, elite.
Speaker 6 (01:38:57):
No doubt about it. Man did it all like college
in New Bronthels in Central Texas.
Speaker 16 (01:39:01):
For sure, there you go, and Sean, I gotta agree
with you, man. Good cold chicken, good cold chicken beats
good cold pizza every time.
Speaker 15 (01:39:13):
But it's gotta be yes, gotta be good chicken. If
it's chicken.
Speaker 16 (01:39:19):
But if it's average chicken, then I got to go
to push at push or maybe even leans toward cold pizza.
But I'm telling you, good, good cold chicken is great.
Speaker 15 (01:39:27):
Man.
Speaker 1 (01:39:28):
Got to have a great day, you too, Jo Friday
night this week too. Why it's a great I mean,
don't ever plan anything on Friday nights during the fall,
because if you're getting married on a Friday night in
the fall in Texas, you're gonna be the only two
there because people watch their high school football. And he's right, dude,
good now listen, My mom used to make throw down,
you know, the mashed potatoes and gravy and all the
good you know, whether it was corn or green beans,
(01:39:50):
you wanted potato salad. If that was the day, you
make the hot part of it, the fried chicken, mashed
potatoes and gravy and all those good the greens. But
the next day, if you want to have like a
when I say a picnic, I'm talking about let's say
you're gonna go somewhere and you're packing a yetti cooler. Listen,
while we all grew up in college with the you know,
(01:40:12):
waking up the next morning not remember where you got
your pizza from and reaching over on the floor and
grabbing a pizza hard card But I get it. I understand,
And this hints the show cold Pizza back in the day.
I get it. But in truth, it's nasty cold pizza
coming out that's cardboard, it's and then you heat it
in the microwave.
Speaker 8 (01:40:28):
It's bad. It doesn't taste good.
Speaker 1 (01:40:30):
The best way to do the best way to do
it is you put it in the oven or that
if you're gonna be okay, so we'll put cold pizzas ude.
But let's face facts, it's just reach for it. You
can't tell me it's a delicacy. But I'm gonna tell you.
There are times you go and do fried chicken and
eat the night before, or even if you're just making
fried chicken for the next day, you're going to the
park with a bunch of people and having a class
(01:40:50):
family reunion, or you invite people over. You don't even
even even if you don't eat great homemade throw down
fried chicken like my mother maid and my grandmother. I'm
just telling you, and you don't even eat the night before.
Let's say you even eat your hot pizza the night
before but you're making this fried chicken for the people
are coming over and we've got to eat outside. And
if the weather doesn't make it where bugs are flying around,
(01:41:13):
and you get that, you pull that thing out of
a yetti it's cold, and then you get thrown down
potato salad and some pie. All that. I'm talking about
a good old fashioned picnic. But it's like a reunion picnic. Dude,
be hot chicken, be damned there. I get that anytime good.
(01:41:35):
And then you put red hot on it, some hot
sauce on that cold chicken. If it's great fried chicken,
and you make sure it's not like, doesn't dry out
over night. I'm just telling you now that cold fried
chicken destroys cold pizza. It's every way instead of when
you're drunk and got to roll over and haven't cooked
it the next morning or hungover. But save it, man,
(01:41:58):
go for it. You make fried chick. It can too
be eaten cold the next day, not to be reheated.
Who wants to reheat fried chicken once again? It just
doesn't taste the same. It sucks out all that good flavor.
Nah man, you give me my mother. We would do it.
And the next day, even if you're just doing it
at home for your family, and she'd potatoes salt and
fried chicken the next day, both cold all hell, no, man,
(01:42:21):
that is it blows away cold pizza. And there's nobody
that likes pizza more than me. Dude. I'd need it
three four days a week if I could. But cold
pizza and cold fried chicken. Yeah, not nasty ass fried
chicken done right. If you haven't had it, then you haven't.
Then you haven't had a good picnic or a good
reunion with your family or friends.
Speaker 8 (01:42:39):
You just have it.
Speaker 6 (01:42:40):
I was late to the hot sauce on fried chicken game,
but I'm glad that I was finally able to get
there because it is a game calder it is with
this hot honey stuff. I don't need the hot honey.
Speaker 1 (01:42:51):
No, no, no, maybe if you want it on something else,
but I'm not rooining to put it that. That's like
putting a one, in my opinion, on a great steak, right.
Speaker 2 (01:42:59):
Not that a not good.
Speaker 1 (01:43:00):
If you want to do or ketchup on a steak,
what a waste.
Speaker 6 (01:43:03):
It's an insult to the shaft.
Speaker 3 (01:43:04):
You do right.
Speaker 1 (01:43:04):
If it's nasty and it's salt a good food now
if you're eating nasty fried chicken and gotta smother it
with with honey, okay, But for me, why am I
taking away the good taste of chicken? If I want that,
then I'll go get and I'll order some you know,
the honey hall Havin Yarrow boneless wings, have fried chickens
meant to be eat his fried chicken. You had a
dab of that red hot on cold fried chicken and
(01:43:27):
a picnic. Get the hell out, dude, son, it's not
even close. Cardboard pizza, cold fried chicken cold, intentionally cold
the next day, not even close.
Speaker 8 (01:43:38):
Blows away cold pizza. Yeah, it's not.
Speaker 6 (01:43:40):
It's not a free plug because I mean it's a
high school. But the best high school football food I've
ever had was a simple sausage wrap, just sausage right
off the grill, tortilla, a little bit of.
Speaker 1 (01:43:51):
Mustard on it, tigging a blanket.
Speaker 6 (01:43:53):
I mean, I guess, I guess you could go that
way if you want to, but uh, foil wrapped right there,
unwrapped the foil, eat it. Missing Valley High School right there,
Kenyan Lake and some red hot too, brother Matt.
Speaker 1 (01:44:04):
That's that's a thought.
Speaker 6 (01:44:05):
Sean that is a thought good dip that in some
red hot Yeah, but no, he's He's one hundred percent
right about some of these high sums.
Speaker 1 (01:44:13):
Man, look at these stadiums. I mean not just the
food they do, they go along with it. I mean
you're you're talking about Look, that's these schools in these stadiums.
You drive by in Texas about everye hundred miles and
you're like, oh man, what college is at Oh no, no, no, no,
that that's just that's one of three high schools in
the city. I mean, you're so big with football and Katie,
(01:44:35):
you got to have two college looking stadiums side by side,
parking lots separate. I mean, are you kidding? But dude
is a California guy, and I you know my buddies
that played high school football Florida and both really good
sports states and great football states. The passion is there.
Don't misunderstand me, but it's a different It's different here
(01:44:57):
in Texas, in Houston and Dallas and Beaumont, it does
in gal It doesn't matter where you go someplace in California.
It may not be it's Friday night. You may get something.
It doesn't matter a town of five thousand people or
a town of five hundred thousand people Texas Friday, and
I try to tell my buddies that have never experienced
that there are football players. I said, you have zero idea.
Speaker 8 (01:45:18):
What I'm talking about.
Speaker 1 (01:45:19):
And I'm talking about guys that went to powerhouses in
Los Angeles or in San Diego and it was big there.
But it's not the passion. It's just different, dude. It's
like you put a surfboard on you on your back
when you're five years old in California. You put a
dog on football in your mouth as a pacifier when
you're six months old here. And I tell people and
they just don't get it. I tried to throw a
(01:45:39):
party one time on a Friday night when I first
moved to Texas. In Dallas, was going to plan a party.
A buddy of mine said, Sehan, what are you doing
this what month? He said, I'm just going to tell you, dude,
don't do it. And we changed it because he said,
all your buddies, as much as they love you, they're
either going to come later, they may not show up.
It was just gonna be a bit and I'll be
(01:46:00):
I learned a valuable lesson Fridays are from football in
the fall, sore Saturdays and sore and Sundays. But I'm
not so sure Friday Night's not even bigger than the
other two when it comes to the passion of football
in this state.
Speaker 6 (01:46:11):
Sometimes the hardest lessons are the best ones to learn.
And shout out to the Katie Tigers the seventh flag
over Texas. They got the flag to show at two sean.
Speaking of football, let's get in a little bit of
college variety or good buddy Christopher bear Felika from Fox Sports.
He's going to join us right here, get into a
little bit of leak corso with his memories from the
game day days. We'll do all of that right here,
(01:46:32):
the bear right here, Shawn Salisbury show.
Speaker 8 (01:46:34):
Hey, if your.
Speaker 1 (01:46:35):
Current wealth manager isn't hitting it out of the park,
for you to step up to plate with Trajan Wealth. Listen.

not get out in front of it and start. So
this is to everybody, make sure your wealth management manager
is stepping up and talking to you about the risk
(01:46:55):
tolerance and four to one k rollover and how much
money you're going to need to retire and stay retired,
all these things that come to fruition. Are you prepared
for downswings for you know, inflation, for market in all
those things, for market for national debt? Are are you
prepared for it? And if you're not, you need a
wealth manager? And if you are prepared, good, how about
(01:47:16):
somebody who stands shouldered shoulder with you that can help
you extend that so when you do retire, you don't
have to come out of retirement because well, I was forced.

Speaker 2 (01:47:58):
Man, we're value sewn. Salisbury show continued. All right, let's
bring him in.
Speaker 6 (01:48:05):
You know him. He is the Bear and he is
now with the Big newon Kickoff Crew on Fox Sports,
but previously ESPN College Game Day. He is Chris Filica.
You can find him on Twitter at Chris Filica Bear.
Appreciate your time this morning, Man, I want to start
things off. I don't normally do this, but reading a
snippet of a quote, and it was Arch Manning from
(01:48:26):
earlier this week about trying to shift the narrative. We're
going for everyone else. There's not a target on our back.
We've got a red dot on everyone else. Do you
think that's kind of stoking the flames a little bit
heading up to Columbus Or do you think that's the
right idea for the Texas Longhorns this year?
Speaker 14 (01:48:43):
No?
Speaker 17 (01:48:43):
I love I love the idea. I love the confidence,
and I love the provid I think teams need more
of that.
Speaker 13 (01:48:50):
Don't be if you're good, don't be afraid to say it.
Speaker 17 (01:48:53):
And show it. Have self confidence in yourself. I mean
having gone to University of Miami and I was there
in the late eighties or early nineties, and then the
great teams that they had in the early two thousands,
that they walk that walk, and they welcomed the provado,
they welcomed the pressure. They love the competition, and I
(01:49:14):
love it because I think a lot of times people
maybe try and steer clear of that, but the fact
that they want the attention, they want the bulls are
they they they're looking to take shots at other people
that told me they fel pretty good about where they
are at this point, and you're going into it.
Speaker 1 (01:49:32):
My man. Great to talk to you. It's always great
to have you on and you well, you're a star,
so we're great to have stars on the show. It's
great to talk to you. Barky, No, I do trust hey, Dan.
Whenever you needed anything, say man, you could be thinking
in your mind which you needed and like Feliks could
finish the sentence for you without you even saying it. Okay,
(01:49:52):
Oh Sean, you're looking for this number of kirk kursry Listen,
good kid, yourself with all those stars on College Game
Day at Fox, every one of them has a direct
line to Bear because they.
Speaker 8 (01:50:02):
Know where they're getting their antis man.
Speaker 1 (01:50:04):
My betting guy. I appreciate my guy, so bear. Uh,
what's arch manning? Just like numbers wise, from all the
deep dive you do, what's he facing going into Columbus
this this week? This week? And what would you expect
from him?
Speaker 21 (01:50:18):
I would think that they don't have a very good
idea as to what Ohio State is going to do
defensively because you've got a new coordinator there now in
Matt Patricia who hasn't been in the college game.
Speaker 17 (01:50:29):
And I guess you can go back and look at
some of the old Patriots stuff. You can look at
some of the lions of he look at the stops
he's been in the NFL. But I think that's one
of the more fascinating things about this matchup because you've
got not only Matt Patricia and the coordinator on the
defensive side, you've got Brian Hartline, a new coordinator on
the offensive side as well. If I were Texas like
(01:50:51):
I would be looking at some of the some of
the situational stuff like well, what he likes to do
on third down and things like that. The looks that
he likes to bring. I think if you're Arch, I
think look Sark is one of the best play callers
UH in the sport. I don't think he's gonna go
into this game expecting Arch with a new group of
wide receivers to go out there throw all over Ohio State.
(01:51:15):
I think you're going to see the Texas offensive line.
I think you see a lot of a lot of
quarterback run. Look to put Arch in position and look
to put that offense in a position where you're you're
looking at maybe second and five, third and two UH
and not really fall behind the change. Because I think
that's the biggest thing that Arch has going for him
into this into this game is his ability to run,
(01:51:37):
his ability to UH to escape pressure and get out
of the pocket.
Speaker 2 (01:51:41):
Whereas on the flip.
Speaker 17 (01:51:42):
Side, with Ohio State and Julians saying he is not
Will Howard, this is going to be a completely different
Ohio State offense. Now he can throw it better than
Will Howard and he has those great, great wide receivers,
he certainly does not have, uh the escapability and their
run potential and the run threat that certainly Arch does
in this game, and well Howard did last year.
Speaker 1 (01:52:02):
He's Chris Filika.
Speaker 6 (01:52:03):
You know him as the Bear, formerly College Game Day
on ESPN, now with Fox Sports and Bear. Another huge
game this weekend, LSU traveling out to Clemson. It seems
like that not a ton of people are really believing
that LSU has a chance to pull off this win.
But what do you think about their chances on Saturday
night there?
Speaker 17 (01:52:23):
I think they have a great chance to pull off
the upset. It's funny in the SEC just to take
a kind of a macro picture. I think all of
the hype and excitement, and justifiably so about our arch banning,
all of the narrative around Alabama. Oh it's Bama, they'll
be back. They've lost four games. Where was last year?
(01:52:43):
They'll be back at Bama. But yeah, there's a big
butt there, and the butt is sitting on the College
Game base set right now. And then you have the
narrative around Georgia that a lot of people are saying, Oh,
just trust Kirby and that staff. They'll be better with
Gunnar's Doockton a quarterback. They don't need Carson Beck.
Speaker 20 (01:52:59):
But we don't know that.
Speaker 17 (01:53:00):
I almost wonder if the answers are like the question
of who's the best team in the SEC. I wonder
if the answer is LSU when it's staring, it's right
in the face and nobody's willing to believe it. I
have questions about Clemson. I think you look at what
Georgia did to them last year. I think you look
at Louisville in South Carolina going to going to Clemson
(01:53:22):
in winning. I know you've got a new defensive coordinator
on Tom Allen, and that will probably change two things,
two things schematically and make them a little bit better.
But LSU doesn't take a backseat to anybody in the
country talent wise. They probably did more in the portal
this year than maybe anyone in the country, with the
exception of Miami. Like I think ls he has a
(01:53:43):
great chance to go up there and winning him. I
think I think one of the biggest things, too, is
kind of that whole Brian Kelly Game one narrative where
they lost a couple of games that SU they lost
the game to USC. I think a lot of people
are kind of hanging on that. But I'm not sold
that Clemson is is better than LSU. That sold that
Clemson is this like National title eleven and one type
(01:54:04):
contender like a lot of people have them. So I
think I lost has a great chance to go up
there and went on Saturday Night.
Speaker 1 (01:54:11):
Bar let me tug on your emotions. I know you're
on the competitor, but I know your love for the
fellows that you've worked with, and I know their love
for you. But Alison know the relationship you and Lee
Corso over the years, thoughts on him retiring and just
overall about the man and the broadcaster.
Speaker 17 (01:54:28):
I think it's something that those of us who had
been on the show for a while we always knew
was going to come, and we thought maybe each in
the last couple of years could just be it, could
just be it. And he's been easy back, thankfully. It's
going to be a fitting place for him to to
go out. The side of the first head gear is
(01:54:49):
going to be the side of the final head gear.
And he did never forget your first love is something
that he always said it I have to from a
personal standpoint. He is the one who gave me that
the nickname.
Speaker 7 (01:55:00):
Bear.
Speaker 17 (01:55:01):
Kirk and I were sitting it sitting in a one
one day and he walks over and it just kind
of mutters and looks at the table and looks at
me and looks at the Kirk looks at me again,
and he says, look at your filika. You're like a bear.
You eat, you sleep, you he take a nap, and
you do it all over again.
Speaker 20 (01:55:20):
So yeah, he didn't say poop, by the way, But.
Speaker 17 (01:55:24):
I had him to thank for kind of creating that nickname,
creating that persona, and just how he treated people, how
how genuine he was, especially like when Kirk and I
first started together in ninety six and kind of giving
us little adotes, a little quipped he could tell still
tell that that the coach was still there, and he was.
He was still fierier, and obviously post stroke he turned
(01:55:48):
into a little bit of a different type of personality.
Wasn't as quick witted and sharp as he used to be.
But that's where I think you saw the best of
game Day family. We all kind of put on arms
around it and put him in the best position to
succeed and did everything for him to make sure that
(01:56:08):
he was comfortable and never had to worry about being
left alone on an island. And I think in general,
I think the sport of college football and maybe sports
television as a whole has Lee course or to think like,
who's to say if this road show where I mean,
you were there at the time and he saw like
schools were like campaigning to get game day to come
(01:56:29):
to their practice. They wanted Lee courses to put on
a piece of headgear in their stadium or outside. And
it's town like, if that doesn't take off, who's to
say there's a big newon takeoff. Who's to say inside
the NBA isn't going on the road? Is it popular
as they are? So I think this kind of genre
of like the traveling pre game show. I think Lee
(01:56:51):
what he did in his popularity and his knowledge of
the entertainment business really caused him to take off.
Speaker 6 (01:56:57):
It's hard to argue with that for sure. And you
learned something new every day. The coach created the legend
right in front of us.
Speaker 13 (01:57:03):
Absolutely.
Speaker 6 (01:57:03):
Yeah, so again. Christopher the Bear Felika from Fox Sports
formerly ESPN College Game Day, you know him if you're
a college football fan. Bear, I'm sure you get this
question every single time you're speaking to a phone for
a radio interview. A couple of teams out there, people
aren't talking enough about this year on Minnesota.
Speaker 17 (01:57:22):
I think is a team that not a lot of people.
Everyone's looking for that next Indiana in the Big Ten,
and you hear Illinois and you hear USC. But Minnesota
is a team that I think is going to have
a very good season. I bet their season win total
over seven and a half. I took a fly on
them at eighteen to one to make the College Football Playoff.
(01:57:43):
I think at this point you just have to trust PJ.
Fleck and the talent and the culture he builds around
his programs. They're gonna have a little bit different quarterback
this year, and Drake Lindsay, who I think kinda is
going to be more of a pass guy, and their
offense is going to be more of a throw first
to set up the run, and I think that's fine.
Corey Perrich is a two way guy You're going to
(01:58:04):
see a lot of this year. And if you look
at the Golden Gophers schedule, it really isn't in terms
of difficulty, Like, I don't think this is a team
that's going to go to Ohio State and win. I
don't think it's a team that is going to go
to Oregon and win. But every other game on the
schedule is incredibly winnable. So like I think like nine
(01:58:25):
and three is on the table, and if they get lucky, maybe.
Speaker 20 (01:58:29):
They're ten and two and in the discussion.
Speaker 17 (01:58:31):
And the other team that I like nationally that I'm
not sure them. I mean, in your state people are
probably aware of them, but outside of your stat is UTSA.
I think the American is a team is a conference
that's wide open. Chulane is obviously the favorite going in there,
and Russ left in the quarterback is fine, but after
(01:58:52):
that game at Kyle Field, there's a chance the road
run is your favorite in every single game the remainder
of the schedule that they're built a little bit differently
and most group of five teams in terms of that
offensive line which is massive and in the interior, so
they kind of bully a lot of those teams around.
So if they go to Kyle Field and they play well,
(01:59:12):
there's a chance they could be ten and two or
eleven and two AC champions and put themselves in the
mix for that group of five College football playoff spot.
Speaker 1 (01:59:22):
Well, Bear will send you on your way on this one.
Give you I know you've got a lot of this
going on and getting ready for the season and it's
unfair to you to make it a two minute answer,
second answer. But you got logic in common sense more
than anybody I know. Talk to me about fix the playoffs?
Does it need fixed? What would you do if you
were running the show College Football Playoffs?
Speaker 17 (01:59:43):
I think what they what they did this offseason, but
just been doing the straight seeding with twelve. I think
that is a really good fix.
Speaker 1 (01:59:51):
I was.
Speaker 17 (01:59:52):
I am not on board for this whole like automatic
four four. People talk about acts and like hating the
college football like preseason polls, So we want to get
rid of preseason polls that form an opinion and an expectation,
but we want to automatically assume every year that the
(02:00:12):
SEC is automatically going to get four the big task,
like the year has changed. So I like what they
did with the straight seating. And the one other thing
the tweak that I would make if we're going to
keep it at twelve, which I hope they do, is
I would give that the quarterfinals. I would give those
top four seeds a home game as well. I know
that'll probably never happen because of the bowl tie ins
(02:00:34):
and the relationship that the Bulls had with with.
Speaker 20 (02:00:37):
TV and the and the playoff in itself, but not only.
Speaker 17 (02:00:40):
Give those first round games home field advantage, give the
teams that really earned it by having a great regular season,
give them a home game as well. That way the
chances of them getting clipped off.
Speaker 1 (02:00:51):
As in his great He's the Bear, also known as
Chris Filica.
Speaker 6 (02:00:55):
You can find them on Twitter at Chris Filika with
Fox Sports formerly with ESPN College Game Day Bear. It's
always awesome to catch up with the man. You're always
gracious with your time and and it's always great to
be able to pick your knowledge for some college football.
Speaker 8 (02:01:09):
Great stuff, bro, great to be one, Great to be
on with you as always, my man.
Speaker 17 (02:01:13):
Awesome, good, great, Great to talk to you again. It's
been a while, and let's do it again at some
point during the year.
Speaker 6 (02:01:17):
Like I like that idea, appreciate it again. The Bear
Christopher Filica a year.
Speaker 1 (02:01:22):
He really is. He's freaking awesome. I'm going to tell you,
and I like you know, Stanford Steve's great too. They're
fortunate they have great body after body there. But I'm
just telling you he is one of the He is
as brilliant and his just common sense guy as you'll
find on any TV show, and he's just one of us.
He's just a normal dude who is really damn good
at what he does and a great.
Speaker 6 (02:01:42):
Great human being for sure, for sure, definitely a huge
fan of his work and especially of the guy himself.
All Right, so let's continue the college football conversation because well,
something does involve le Courso this weekend, but something doesn't
sit right with me. We'll discuss here. Sean Salisbury show you.

and Rockets play at Real Texans Talk.
Speaker 6 (02:03:51):
Auburn at Baylor. That's gonna be a lot of fun.
I mean, it's pretty much from Tomorrow nights all the
way to Monday, we're getting good premium college football all
the way through. I'm pumped, man, I'm ready to go.
Just like you said earlier about your party on a
Friday night, don't hey, we're having a cookout on Saturday.
Speaker 1 (02:04:08):
You're gonna have the games on?
Speaker 6 (02:04:09):
Well, we might.
Speaker 1 (02:04:10):
That's not the answer I was looking for.
Speaker 8 (02:04:13):
Yeah, I'm I'm a I'm like, you know, I'm up, dude.
Speaker 1 (02:04:16):
Normally like, well, let me sleep in a little bit
more on Saturdays, right, But college game day, oh no,
even though it starts with like eight, now, I'm my
butt is up. It's like six. Going out there and
prepping out doors, making sure you spray some the mosquitoes, don't.
I mean, I'm dude, I am ready to go, like
it's Christmas morning and you're twelve, Yeah, about to get
your scratch the grill, No, off the grillod no doubt.
(02:04:41):
Make sure all that the taps fled up with the
two beer kegs, and the ice is in the yetti
outside with with bottles and cans of what they're getting,
and that the grill is cleaned and ready to go,
and that everything's perfect and ready to go. That the
theiqu the tiki torches are lit to keep any kind
of buzz all that stuff. Dude, I'm telling you what
it's like, uh that it's by myself watching them. Yeah,
(02:05:05):
I'm just it's just like it's it's a you know
what it is. It's not a game, it's it's the
whole invite. It's the whole process of the game from start.
And then you don't quit till ten or eleven o'clock
at night, twelve after no question about it now, and
you'll get some good football late that we miss out
on sometimes because we're but I I it's a talk
(02:05:25):
about a marathon, not a sprint because it is a
long day. But I love them now before we go
to bring I'm gonna tease you with something. You can
come back and do what you want, but base people
know and talking to people out there and listen to
these numbers the last twenty home games. I got to
(02:05:45):
get back to the Astros because it's still in my
crawl about last night. Since July seventh, home games the
last twenty home games, their record six and fourteen there
runs again against sixty four to one twenty six run differential.
The Astros are minus sixty two the last twenty home games.
(02:06:08):
Batting average, they're hitting two ten strikeouts to walks. They've
struck out one hundred and seventy five times, walked fifty
nine times. The starters ERA just under five at four
eight one, bullpen ERA just under six and a half
at six four to seven. That's the last twenty home
games since July seventh. Is what your ass is. If
(02:06:32):
I took away the logo and I put that up,
what would you say about this team that's not a
championship team.
Speaker 6 (02:06:39):
Correct, it's a team that's probably already thinking about twenty
twenty six, or.
Speaker 1 (02:06:43):
Doesn't defend their honor at home the way they're supposed
to and then let me mix in one of those
losses came to it to well, a couple of came
to a team that's got one of the worst run
differentials in the American League, with the Baltimore Orioles at home,
when they were at when they came to visit, they
were on the road, and again going into last night,
(02:07:04):
they run minus three forty nine. They are double plus
worse than anybody else in baseball and run differential. They
hung six on you last night in the last twenty
home games.
Speaker 8 (02:07:15):
That adds to it.
Speaker 1 (02:07:16):
And it's not just the bats, it's the pitchers as
well that are laboring hard the last twenty games. If
this trend continues, the Astros won't make the playoffs.
Speaker 6 (02:07:28):
It's hard to argue with that. With that logic there,
And I'll tell you what we're going to do. I
want you to come back. I want us to reprise
what you just brought up there, those numbers again because
it was a lot and I know that Don and
Brotherwood want to get in on the Astros, so we'll
let them do that. And also to thirty minutes from now,
Dana Brown going to join us for his weekly visits.
So still a lot more to jam in here on
(02:07:49):
a Western Wednesday edition of The Shawn Salisbury Show.
Speaker 1 (02:07:52):
All Right, guys, let's discuss doctor Jeff Witz at Envision. Okay,
he's been nothing but spectacular for me. I always say
when I want to know it. First off, how in
the world would somebody who's never used Lasik or never
been to the eye doctor for something important, How in
the world would they be able to speak on somebody?
(02:08:14):
Talk to the people who've used it. Doctor Wits has
been with me every step of the way for the
last seven or eight years. Every step he's been phenomenal.
So talk to and friends I've sent him same way.
Talk to those people, not the one who Well, I'm
thinking about getting it done. But here, let me tell
you about this company. How about talking about somebody who's
been there, done it. I'm seeing better than I've seen
the last thirty years. And if there's anything that needs adjusted,
(02:08:35):
he's doing it. You have the best doctor right here.
You don't have to travel out of state to go
get the Lasik procedure. Guy that you want to get
it done right in eye care doctor. He's phenomenal. He'll
walk you through it, take away your anxiety, stress, because
there always is when you're talking about your eyes. But
with the greatest equipment, with his great eye and hands
to make sure that you get treated the way he'd
treat his own kid's eyes. Isn't that a nice bonus
(02:08:57):
we get? And then the recovery's quick, you're not on
the table long, and it's not invasive. All those things,
plus you can work out your payment plan. Get it
done right with doctor Jeff Witzett, because your eyes are important,
as you well know, and he's going to make sure
you understand just how comfortable you can be. And that's
a good thing. He's the best in the business, and
I'm grateful. I am a patient. It's seven one three three, six,
(02:09:20):
five nine seven nine seven one three three six, five
nine seven ninety nine. You can get him at wits
it vision dot com. Go for your free review wits
it vision dot com. Say oh, very Houston, Okay, let's
do this.
Speaker 2 (02:09:39):
Sewn Salisbury.
Speaker 3 (02:09:42):
Salsberry so usc Troup's longtime friend Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 2 (02:09:45):
Dan Matthews, Jesus, this is the Sean Salisbury show.
Speaker 6 (02:09:54):
Rose Lows last night at the Rockies six' one open
up the series in homestand there at dyke In Mark
Jordan alvarez in his return first game action Since may
the second at least at the major league. Level oh
for two couple of, Walks but the good news is
The mariners lose to The padres seven to. Six so
The stros stile up a game and a half On
seattle in The Al. West all, Right, sean AS i,
(02:10:15):
said maybe the coffee hadn't kicked in, Yet but you
threw out a lot of numbers at. Us so reset
the table for, us the numbers you got for Us astros,
fans even if it's gonna make us.
Speaker 8 (02:10:26):
Sad so you want to hear these, again that is
what you're telling.
Speaker 1 (02:10:29):
Me i'm a gludding for, Punishment, sean, say to punish
you more with these numbers, again so you can be.
Miserable all, Right well here put.
Speaker 6 (02:10:38):
It when you put it that, WAY i don't know
if it's a thread or a, promise but go, ahead all?
Speaker 8 (02:10:42):
Right once.
Speaker 1 (02:10:42):
Again the last twenty home games Since july, seventh they
are six and fourteen at, home the runs four and
against sixty four to one twenty. Six they're minus sixty
two in the different they're hitting two ten at. Home
the last twenty games Since july, seventh they've struck out
(02:11:04):
one hundred and seventy five times verse fifty nine. Walks
that's the most alarming statistic to. Me why because this
team's history is not a big strikeout. Team that's. Bothersome
and the walks to strike at the strikeout to walk
ratio tells you that we've talked about the impatience at
the plate and being, aggressive being aggressive at the wrong
(02:11:25):
time at the. Plate strikeouts to, walks you're now it's
not just what we want to. Point the hitting AND
i get. It the pitching at home the last twenty
games just under a FIVE era at four eight, one
and The bullpenny are that's starting. Pitching Bullpenny ara is
just under seven or six and a half at six four.
Seven those are all numbers for hitting and pitching at
(02:11:47):
home Since july, seventh and they are six and.
Speaker 8 (02:11:49):
Fourteen those six and.
Speaker 1 (02:11:51):
Fourteen or however many home games you, got if you
parlay it out to that winning percentage or losing, percentage
SHOULD i say either way have a hard time making the,
playoffs let alone win the. Division it's got to. Change
and last night we kind of epitomize what their season's
been like potential at times production they're a once in
(02:12:12):
a while feel of great. Talent the problem is that
production hasn't matched the greater the talent this year, consistently
and now the pitchings kind of flounder and around starting
pitching a little. Bit and you're putting more stress on
a bullpen because you're scoring one run against a team
who has given. Up they're minus three forty, four which
(02:12:32):
is better than double the next worst team In Major League.
Baseball in, essence you're playing Your Williams Sport Little League
World series team. Production And i'm being a bit. Hyperbolic
obviously that's not disrespect to a pro. Team they've won
thirty eight. Games The astros crossed that threshold In june Early.
June inexcusable last, night and their home record in front
(02:12:55):
of these fans at six and fourteen the last twenty
games just can't happen as special when it's against teams
you're not only supposed to, beat you're supposed to. Dominate
this was what you'd call on A saturday game a
cupcake as our, guy isn't that elite corso? Phrase or
a cup whoever used the cupcake phrase whoever started a?
Cupcake and we say The astros can win The World.
(02:13:15):
Series not so, fast my. Friend they, can but the
question is will they playing like? This you'd have to
be an overwhelming homer to think that right now that
they can compete with the best in a long, series
because in seven games what, Happens, Dan the inconsistency shines
right because you're not doing it six, seven, eight nine
games in a. Row and if your fate the kind
of pitching that playoff teams, have especially if they're as
(02:13:38):
good as your two front, guys when they're going, good
you're not going to hit a lot and.
Speaker 8 (02:13:43):
So now you're putting even more pressure on the.
Speaker 1 (02:13:45):
Pitching those are alarming numbers and the strikes to walkouts
is the ratio Is unastros like.
Speaker 6 (02:13:54):
See and this is and it's not your, numbers but
numbers just in general can be. Deceiving because The astros
have the fifth best team batting average in all of
baseball ops they're inside the top, fifteen so they're top half.
There and then strikeouts because that has been a problem, Lately,
SEAN i, mean how many times do you see next
to their stat line, ten, eleven, twelve strikeouts in a
game and then consequently they. Lose, well they're twenty fourth
(02:14:17):
out of thirty teams in terms of team strikeouts this.
Year but to your, POINT i, mean this is going
back you Said july the, seventh, correct the, Seventh, Yeah
july the seven, games, Right SO i mean it's been
a probably a steep decline in some of those areas
because of just HOW i, mean just how relatively unproductive
they've been at the plate for stretches during during a.
Speaker 1 (02:14:39):
Season and we've seen and this is what gives you
hope WHEN i you, know WHEN i see the glass out, Full,
dan is what you saw all the more a couple
of the, games, right was It? Friday? SATURDAY i guess
that's what it, was, RIGHT i, said is as you
start to see the ball was flying out of the.
Ballpark they were attacking early and aggressive but, smart and
they go and beat a. Team now It's, baltimore But
(02:14:59):
baltimore's is good at young talent as there is on
any team your, field damn, Right so you know they
got it in. Them but as when you see, that you're, like,
okay here they. Come and then all of a, sudden
the next two games you're, like here they, go here they,
come here they, go and it's it the. Frustration but
we at some point got to put it not that
they can't go on and play great moving, on but
(02:15:21):
at what you've seen in one hundred and thirty game
sample or one hundred and thirty two whatever it, is you,
know and that with thirty games or so to, go you.
CAN'T i, mean if we if we're a if we're
a franchise that lives by, analytics and they do, this analytics,
says and the analytics and the number is just, say
this is who you are this, year some, good some,
(02:15:43):
bad and mostly kind of a, tweener kind of a
guy trying to find a position in. Football he's the outside,
linebackers the hybrid strong. Safety is he a?
Speaker 8 (02:15:52):
Rope what positions he?
Speaker 1 (02:15:53):
Play? Good but sometimes maybe he's a little overmatched in this.
Category oh sometimes He's his explosiveness is better than a
bigger guy because he's a little. Smaller he's a hybrid.
Guy that's who they. Are and we can say all we,
want but the truth, is seasons. Change you're a bear
talk about, Football, well last year's The alabama Teammate Nick
Saban's alabama. Team same thing here. Tonight this is in twenty,
(02:16:16):
nineteen and it's a lot to overcome the fact that
they're in first. Place. Now the most, marvel the biggest
marvel on this team is they're still in first place
considering the, inconsistency considering a division that's got damn good
pitching and some damn good, hitting As seattle and Cal
rawley have figured that. Out but it's ALSO i, mean
this is a team that is in first place an
(02:16:38):
injury after injury after injury after injury after, injury season,
gone season, gone season. Gone And i'm not making, excuses
but it's legit because that's part of the. Metrics this
guy hasn't. Played it's been one hundred plus games or
whatever for yourd on until last. Night SO i get
all the excuses we can build, in but you only
can go by what you're paying in the lineup you're
putting out, there and it simply says the metrics don't
(02:16:58):
lie that this this has been an inconsist. Team this
is who they. Are you just hope they catch that
lightning in a model at the right, time which goes
back to you can struggle in a game and be
seven for twenty. One if YOU'RE. Cj stroud on the last,
DRIVE i need you to go nine for. Nine it
can be a tough. GAME i need you to go
to ifa same thing with.
Speaker 8 (02:17:17):
Here do you.
Speaker 1 (02:17:17):
Struggle it's been one of those inconsistent, seasons but you
got thirty or so games to do. It this is
WHEN i need you to Play Saturday Friday saturday against
The orioles type baseball that last. Week that's what we. Need,
otherwise you think you're gripping now about the, SEASON i
assure you you're gonna grip a lot more of the last.
Speaker 6 (02:17:37):
Week what have you done for me lately and in
terms of overall offensive, consistency not, much especially at, home
As sean just laid out for. You Don Gary, john
see you guys right. THERE i want to give you
guys as much time as possible before we bring On Dana.
Brown so we'll do that right. Here it is The
Shawn Salisbury, Show Sports talk seven to. Ninety, hey.
Speaker 1 (02:17:55):
Guys on a recent, podcast the well respected business leader
said the best companies are one that solve problems in the. Market,
well consider this new vehicle transaction prices hover around forty
eight thousand. Dollars that's double where they were in twenty.
Ten affordability is a, problem and with talks of tariffs
and other, noise customers are looking for a, solution and
that solution is affordable monthly. Payment some banks have dealt
(02:18:18):
with this by extending financing terms out to eighty four
and even ninety six. Months in, fact over twenty percent
of auto loans today are seven years. Long it's not a, mortgage.
Folks this is why more clients are considering leasing than
at any other time in recent. History AND Dnm leasing
is the nation's leasing leader with fifty thousand satisfied clients
on the road. Today with forty nine years in the,
(02:18:38):
business we have experts that specialize IN yep solving the
high payment problem with easy. Lease that's easy lease with
no money, down payments significantly lower than buying and terms
that make. Sense why wouldn't you CALL dm leasing the main?
Thing they'll visit them, Online you'll get the information you.
Need it's dmauto leasing Dot. Com that's dmautoleasing dot. Com
(02:18:59):
you can also call them at seven three two nine
zero one. Thousand but remember dmauto leasing Dot. Com affordability
matters AND dnm provides. It this Is Sports talks.
Speaker 2 (02:19:15):
Seven Ninety paul up The, Rockets astros and the best
line up In. Houston. Sports now back To Sean. Salisbury
don on.
Speaker 6 (02:19:25):
A mobile wants to, win, Well casey caseon for, Everyone go, Ahead.
Speaker 15 (02:19:28):
Don, hey what's up my?
Speaker 1 (02:19:30):
Brother?
Speaker 9 (02:19:31):
HEY i want to tell you right, Now i'm going
to give you some hard, love BUT i want to
give some stats.
Speaker 21 (02:19:36):
Here.
Speaker 2 (02:19:36):
First if you have a poor, show then you get.
Speaker 9 (02:19:39):
Replaced IF i have a bad game on a continuing,
BASIS i get. REPLACED i get to move down back
down to double a or single a ball or. Whatever
it just happens to me that we need to get
some hard love To. Altuve altuve right now is three
for twenty six with people in scoring.
Speaker 15 (02:19:58):
Position he strikes out way too.
Speaker 9 (02:20:00):
Much to help Protect alvarez right, NOW i would put,
PINION i, HOPE i hope the.
Speaker 20 (02:20:06):
Manager's listening right, now which he's, not and he's not
going to.
Speaker 9 (02:20:09):
Listen to people like me or you or anything. Else
he's going to go by gut. Feeling but what we
need to do is we probably need to Put Penya
Alvarez carrera and then Put Sanchez walker and then right
after him needs to Be. Painia pinia's got to go.
Down he's got to be moved out of that. Position
just like yesterday, again base is. Loaded he gets up
(02:20:31):
there and he's just he's not producing when there's nobody on.
Speaker 20 (02:20:35):
Base he gets hits all the time and he.
Speaker 15 (02:20:37):
Walks why is.
Speaker 9 (02:20:38):
THAT i think he's trying to put too much pressure on,
him or it could be that he's just dhing too
much and he needs to get out there and play
and get his head right out there in the.
Speaker 20 (02:20:46):
Game that's just my feeling about this.
Speaker 2 (02:20:49):
Thing AND i Hope dana.
Speaker 20 (02:20:50):
Listens but you've got to Move altuve down or we're
just going to be looking for next. Year that's just the.
Fact it's hard love love Y, altub but you got a, change,
Dude that's ALL i got to. Say And i'll just
sit back and listen and ride on the.
Speaker 6 (02:21:05):
Road they appreciate the. CALL i, mean what tough. LOVE i,
mean it's just a. Reality that's that's what our business.
Is But, SEAN i, mean that's very much a wish
in one, hand and you know what in the other
when it comes to, that because guess who is going
to have the utmost patience For Jose altuve going through his.
Struggles this organization is SO i get. It it's been,
(02:21:27):
frustrating AND i pointed it out last. NIGHT i, mean,
oh for five takes an overer in that final game
against The orioles there In. Baltimore you lose both of those.
GAMES i get what he's. Saying but one THING i will,
say it's not Like Joe, espata even though he said
before the season he didn't want to have a bunch
of different, Lineups it's not like he's not in favor
of making.
Speaker 1 (02:21:46):
Changes, yeah one THING i do, know if there was
ever A hall, pass it was given or reserve and
it was a great. Call he makes a point tough,
Love but tough love is they're looking at the same.
Numbers it's this is and it's not. Personal it's just a.
FACT i can tell you one. Thing you're not going
to see him hit outside the top five the rest
(02:22:07):
of the. Year you're just. Not no matter where you
want to move, him it ain't going to be out of. There,
Right you're Keeping you're going to trust that he's going
to get. Hot, Right that's that's your, point, right whether
it's A hall pass or the belief or the patience
with the, guy whether it's whether he's hitting the one,
hole the two, hole of the three.
Speaker 8 (02:22:23):
Hole he is not going to be hitting in the six.
Hole he is going to be.
Speaker 1 (02:22:26):
Hitting and, however you move over him around and when you,
know talk To dana what he'd like to. See but
that's going to be more than, likely As dana would,
say he'll defer To joe as spot on the. Lineup
but the thing That joe didn't want to, do AND
i know, Injuries he didn't anticipate this in spring. Training
he did not want to have one hundred and forty lineup.
Changes well they're on the way to about one hundred
and fifty of them in one hundred and sixty two.
(02:22:47):
Games it's it's that that's a. Lot that that's a.
Lot it just kind of epitomizes what the season has been.
About so, however you're going to work it to get
your best the middle of the lineup and protection For,
jordon because, again if the rest of the group is
not driving the baseball or getting himself in position to
(02:23:07):
be productive at the, Plate jordon's GONNA i can, literally you,
know always Say i'm gonna take the bat out of his.
Hand talking in any, Sport i'm to take the bat
out Of Bill belichick's. Hand we're gonna Stop Tom. Brady,
well he's still got the ball in his. Hand, OH
i can hand it off without you doing anything About
now you may be able to tackle, him But Barry
sanders is hard to, tackle evenim with an eight man.
Front so NOW i go to. Baseball the one sport
(02:23:30):
that you can control that is. BASEBALL i don't have
to let your best player beat.
Speaker 15 (02:23:35):
ME i just.
Speaker 1 (02:23:36):
Don't and right, now after all, this every team knows
these are. That, Oh jordon's back in the. Lineup, okay
how are you going to attack them game plan? Wise,
well even if he's not hot, YET i don't want
him to. Be he ain't doing. That he's not doing
it on my kitchen. Table So i'm gonna make sure
he does not beat. Me and you can control, that
whether it's an, unintentional intentional, walker whether it's sticking up
(02:23:58):
four and stinning in the first. Base because the way
The astros inconsistency of reeling and the numbers bear it
out when it comes to runs and runners in scoring,
position this has not been a stellar year for, them
so somebody else beat, me, man so somebody else beat.
Me and If i'm a posing, team you saw it last.
Night i'm not giving you anything to, hit to drive
(02:24:19):
and get the momentum shifted for you.
Speaker 8 (02:24:21):
Guys and the rest of baseball knows that.
Speaker 1 (02:24:24):
Too so if you're The, astros you almost have to
go in as the player, Saying, okay how good Is
jordon going to? Be simply because they can control that
the opponent. Can we've got to get. It we've got
to take their ability to control it out of their,
hand which means if we're, raking they got to pitch to.
Them if If korea Or walker go on a Yord
(02:24:44):
on like, tear then you've got to come into. It
you can't do it because that Solo, homer The Walker
h's now becomes a two run job or a three
run job or whoever's in front behind, obviously so how
that's the only way you control it is those around
him that are not only for deductive but scary in the.
Lineup other than, That i'm making you play with eight.
Guys that's. PLAY i just. Am i'm not. Letting i'm
(02:25:07):
not going he didn't get to do.
Speaker 8 (02:25:08):
Damage now four of you are doing.
Speaker 1 (02:25:10):
Damage now it's a different.
Speaker 8 (02:25:11):
Story.
Speaker 1 (02:25:12):
Now NOW i gotta be careful And i'm gonna have
to pitch to him at times right, now unless there's
a consistency that, that, Dude i'm not walking off the,
field you saint. MAN i gave up four hits and
three of them were to Yord, on two home runs
and a, double.
Speaker 8 (02:25:24):
And we got.
Speaker 1 (02:25:24):
Beat that ain't happen If i'm an, opponent and The
Colorado rockies made sure it did last.
Speaker 6 (02:25:29):
Night i'd have to guess that you're gonna see l
Two va playing, second Jord ON dh Maybe sanchez out
and left And Cam smith and right.
Speaker 1 (02:25:37):
Tonight, yeah you know the right field situation And cam
you know going through. It but he's been there the whole.
Year you know you're gonna That, Jordan, Oh jordan Al
tuo ve Uh sanchez that left, field D h second.
Base once, Again, dan you don't have time to. Fiddle
(02:25:59):
you got to play your. Best stayed every. Night you just.
Do and even if somebody needs arrests sometimes you just gotta,
say you know, what now not, Today we've got to
get some a the ability of growing. Confidence the last thirty,
things thirty games so we can we can ride.
Speaker 8 (02:26:14):
This we've got to get on this wave and get, going.
Speaker 1 (02:26:16):
Because you can't get a guy hot then make him
sit for, well we have a day off and Then
i'm giving him a Day i'm, sorry but if your
legs are not fresh or you're, tired there's a plunge
pull you're gonna have to get. IN i just can't
make those decisions. LATE i just.
Speaker 8 (02:26:30):
Can't i've got to play them and they've got to.
Speaker 1 (02:26:33):
Respond in four and what it, was it's six and
fourteen at, home hitting two ten and eras above above
five four for the starters and almost six and a
half for the. Relievers that's got to change Since july
seventh at home Four, FIRST i say six and. Fourteen
they got to get better In colorado's got to be
somebody that you.
Speaker 8 (02:26:52):
Trounced the next two, days we'll.
Speaker 1 (02:26:54):
Talk about that much.
Speaker 6 (02:26:55):
More ASTRO Gm Dana brown joins us every time this

Speaker 18 (02:28:22):
On hey, guys are y'all?
Speaker 16 (02:28:25):
Good?
Speaker 1 (02:28:25):
Man?
Speaker 18 (02:28:26):
Hey when when Did peres.
Speaker 1 (02:28:29):
Go on the? Io july, Ninth july, Twentieth july, Twentieth.
Speaker 18 (02:28:36):
All, right, Man sean's been saying this morning About july. Seventh, Right, yeah,
WELL i mean IT'S i, mean look AT i THINK
i don't, know But i'm not saying he was our,
office but he was our leader out. There he was
getting it done when he went to the team as
(02:28:59):
you know that way years ago with these with this,
team as as our two Bay win Or bradman, went
the team, went you, know so forth and maying THAT
i don't know about, it but this IS i know
we're beating a dead, Horseman And i've been beating a dead.
Speaker 23 (02:29:18):
Horse this is an average. Team and if everybody sits
there and thinks that we're going to just walk into
the playoffs with any, problems, man y'all got to face.
Reality this team is going to be lucky one to
get in the playoffs, two they're going to Be they
(02:29:39):
ain't gonna get out of the first, round not like,
this not with all.
Speaker 18 (02:29:44):
This head cases put out two, bays but at second
basically he, was but they're and the hell with all
this other, stuff putting down to six or seventh to
call him before had to hit the number on the.
Head but using baby gloves with, him he's a grown.
Speaker 13 (02:29:57):
Professional hell on the.
Speaker 1 (02:29:58):
State he'll get, over you.
Speaker 23 (02:30:00):
Know and then the last, thing of, Course i'm gonna
bet the mortgage on.
Speaker 18 (02:30:04):
It There Dana brown will say.
Speaker 11 (02:30:08):
What's he gonna say today with jord on.
Speaker 18 (02:30:11):
That you, know we just got to give it time
and we're just line. Up we believe in, it and
we're you, know people are going to be afraid of this.
Lineup people aren't afraid of this, lineup. Man people aren't
afraid of this picture staff no. More and it's it's
stone cold reality. Truth you, know we're not people are not.
(02:30:34):
INTIMIDATING i guarantee When seattle Plays, colorado watch what happens With.
Seattle Watch seattle Sweet. Colorado if they're going to do
what they're supposed to. Do and that's where this team
lacks right.
Speaker 6 (02:30:47):
Now appreciate the, Call, JOHN i, mean, LOOK i get
that the frustration is, there AND i mean to his
point about are we feeling good about this team being
a postseason team right? Now, no we're.
Speaker 1 (02:31:01):
NOT i, mean, WELL i feel good about it being
a postseason team because they're in first place and they win,
series they'll have a, chance And seattle's got to go
through some schedule as. Well But i'm not feeling good
about them Because i'm not even to me THE i
know this is, hard this Is i'm simplifying it too.
Speaker 8 (02:31:20):
Much oh it's a.
Speaker 1 (02:31:20):
Formality well it isn't because it's tough to, win but
the expectations are different to me, playoffs and that's where
you've got to get to get, started to get in the.
Tournament BUT i still think they can make the playoffs because.
Speaker 8 (02:31:31):
You, know somebody gets, hot you hang.
Speaker 1 (02:31:33):
On but they can't sustain this throughout the, postseason hitting like,
this and the pitching starting pitching is kicked around, too
as we, saw especially at home the last twenty. Games
so it's got to get. Better SO i try to remain.
Optimistic but it is an average. Team john's not, lying
AND i think they know that, too not average, talent
average performance and inconsistent, performance which is a.
Speaker 6 (02:31:54):
Problem, WELL i, mean and it's even without, injuries it
did seem like that it was thin hope at best
of being a team that can make a deep run
into the. Postseason BUT i, mean it's just it's been
the waves sean where it's been starting. Pitching then you
get some guys, healthy then it's the. LINEUP i mean
that was kind of mixed in with the starting, pitching
and then you start getting some guys. Healthy but it's,
(02:32:15):
like all, right are you getting them with enough time
to be able to actually be able to factor for?
You because that's what we're kind of running into with
your don and NOW i mean Both Josh hater And
Bennett sussa being. Out that's a lot to.
Speaker 1 (02:32:26):
OVERCOME i GUESS i don't even know Where i'm going with,
this but you keeps sitting. Me i'm trying to figure
out over the you, Know i'm trying To you, know
when we talk about we're one hundred and thirty two games,
in you have thirty to go trying to. Fail, okay
AND i believe like in, football twelve games, IN i
know who a team is. Now they may win a
game or upset, somebody BUT i know what their identity,
is and we know the identity of this. Team but
(02:32:48):
right now we don't have one guy or one. Group
that's the identity that's the problem part of, it the
one that you can just. Aide that's who we, are,
man that's who we're gonna. Be and but this is
who they've been this. Year so you just got to
go by the numbers and the. Metrics BUT i look
at it And i'm, wondering how many times this, Year,
dan have you got a great pitching performance and an
explosive hitting game to where you were you hung seven
(02:33:10):
or eight runs, games let's even just say, seven six
or seven runs even you want to go to six
and the pitcher went five and two thirds or more
and gave up a one earned run and that was.
IT i wonder how many times in their yen wins this,
Year AND i would imagine it's overwhelming how many wins
they get when a pitcher, goes you, know six innings
and you score six. RUNS i would imagine The astros
(02:33:31):
win most of. Them But i'm just curious when, pitching
bullpen and hitting not in one, game but for three
series in a, row maybe maybe a month or all
of them have kicked. In, well it's kicked. In we
got Data brown on. Now, yeah better late than. Never
let's get the. Astros, yeah we'll grab him for a
(02:33:52):
couple of. Minutes, dana welcome. In what you know trying
to figure out on the psychological, side, man you see
it all when you're playing a team you're support to.
Beat AND i know baseball is hard and it's hard to.
Win when you're playing a. Team what's the philosophy going
in against the team that run differential was three hundred
and forty nine on the? Negative one two is they
haven't they haven't won forty. Games they're coming into your.
(02:34:14):
Building you're trying to get. Hot jordun's in the. Lineup
the mentality going into that game is it easy to
get casual because you're supposed to.
Speaker 24 (02:34:22):
Win, well look, here this is this is what defines
baseball right here right You you take a first place,
team you take a first place, team and you take
a last place, team and you put them in the same.
Speaker 13 (02:34:35):
Ballpark and the beauty of baseball is you just don't
know who's going to win that particular. Game and last,
night you, know there was a costly eerror that extended the,
inning AND i mean it, hurt you, know and you
know we couldn't get the offense. GOING i mean that
one ball that a'l two they hit toward the gap
THE centifolda made a good. Play if that ball gets,
(02:34:56):
down it's a whole different. Game and so it's just it's.
Speaker 15 (02:35:00):
Baseball it's these.
Speaker 13 (02:35:01):
Kind of losses could be, frustrating you, know because you're
going in feeling really. Good you, know you got A
Hunter brown on the, Mound you're a first place, Team
you're playing a team with the worst record in, baseball
and you feel really good about that game going. In
but you, know baseball sometimes like the game of. Life you,
know you you come up on a short, Ending.
Speaker 1 (02:35:23):
DANA i know there's one hundred and sixty two of.
Them and the grind and grit that you've talked about
and this held true for your. Team, well you talked
about the frustration of losing a game like, That but
can of loss like that become devastating in the.
Speaker 13 (02:35:36):
End, no you just have to flush.
Speaker 7 (02:35:39):
It you.
Speaker 1 (02:35:40):
Know you know you're a good.
Speaker 7 (02:35:41):
Team you come back out, today you love your chances,
again you Have fromber, going you, know so you feel
good about this, game and then, tomorrow you, know we
don't want to look, ahead but tomorrow we Have alexandrew
who's four and on his last four. Starts so you,
know you, know you got to rebound and win the,
series because that's what it's all. About you've got to
win the. Series but you have to flush. It you,
(02:36:03):
know you can't dwell on. It you, know today's a
new day and if you dwell on the pass and
we'll bite.
Speaker 14 (02:36:09):
You.
Speaker 1 (02:36:10):
Dan i'm not telling you anything you don't, know BUT
i was talking about the numbers looking at you, know
the analytics of Since july, seventh six and fourteen at
home hitting two, ten the strikeout to walk A bucks
seventy five to fifty. Nine This i'm talking about The
astros and the starters at four eight one era And
bolton era almost six and a half that Since july
seventh and homes six and. Fourteen is there should we
(02:36:32):
be looking into? THIS i, mean should this bother? Us?
Yes but is there something deeper than just the fact
that you just didn't have it those those twenty.
Speaker 13 (02:36:40):
Games, yeah here's WHAT i would say all teams go
through this downward spiro during the course of a, season
and you just have to spin out of. It, right
you've got thirty games, Left you're still up in first
place by a.
Speaker 20 (02:36:54):
Game and a.
Speaker 13 (02:36:54):
Half you, know your opponents that are right behind, you
they have a pretty much a tough. Schedule you have
to start winning baseball. Games and you, know you, know
we've talked about this a couple of weeks. AGO i,
said the team that makes the least amount of state,
mistakes we're going we're going to finish on. Top and you,
know last night we made a mistake that cost, us and, so,
(02:37:15):
uh you know you have to, uh you, know cut
down on your. Mistakes you're going to make them in.
Baseball it's just the way the world goes in the
in the in the game of baseball and the game of.
Sports but you have to make at least amount of
mistakes as, possible and that's where you, know last night
it got. Us but, look we're still, uh we control
our own. Fate we're still in the driver's. Seat we're you,
(02:37:37):
know a game and a half. Up we still have
to Play seattle as, well and, so, uh the next
thing is to get this, series, Right you've got to
keep the main thing the main, thing and that's what
it's all about, tonight when, tomorrow when win the.
Speaker 1 (02:37:52):
Series, dana this team is obviously, talented but are they
cape just looking at the numbers for the. SEASON i
know you're you're THE. Gm of course they're capable in your,
eyes but from a vantage, point is somebody who's not around,
it from the fans vantage point looking at? It you,
know one hundred and thirty games and you kind of
understand who a team isn't it can go on a,
run but they're, well they're good enough to do. It
(02:38:15):
have they been consistent enough to go on the run
that you? Desire, offensively and quite, frankly with a pitching
staff at the top who's struggling a little more than
they have in the, past they've been so damn. Good
is this team capable of rolling off twenty and ten
or eighteen and twelve the next thirty?
Speaker 13 (02:38:33):
Games, yeah this team is absolutely, capable you, know and
we just have to get the job. Done there comes
a time where you, know you got to really get
the job. Done and we're at that point where it's, Like,
okay let's get the job. Done you, know we need
to win some baseball games in a. Row we need
to go on an eight game run in a. Row,
(02:38:56):
certainly the, lineup if you look at our lineup, particularly
you know You i'm coming, back the lineup's really. Good you,
know we got two big time starters at the, top
so we're built for the. Postseason we just have to
go on our, run you, know win this division and
go deep into the. Postseason and it's all right in
front of. Us it's right. There it's a game and
(02:39:17):
a half up with thirty to go with a good,
team a good, ten good, defense and so you, know good,
rotation and it's right. There we just have to take
it right AND i mean then nobody's going to hand
it to.
Speaker 1 (02:39:30):
Us you have to take.
Speaker 13 (02:39:32):
It and that's where we are right. NOW i think
this team for sure is certainly good. Enough you, know
we have you, know a combination now three lefties in the.
Lineup you, know at times when we need to do,
it we have some really good hitters in this, lineup
and SO i think it's all about taking it and
not expecting anybody to hand it to.
Speaker 1 (02:39:52):
Us, dana what how would You you're you're a pitcher
or you're a manager on another, team how would you
pitch the Yord On judge playing The?
Speaker 8 (02:40:00):
Astros how would you pitch him these last thirty?
Speaker 13 (02:40:03):
Games, YEAH i wouldn't want to pitch The, jordon you.
Know you, know it's just Like yourdon's pretty. Good you,
know like you you saw a little bit of it
last night with the Two. Walks you, know they pitched around.
Them you, know think about, it he's oo for two
with Two walks because they pretty much pitched around. Him
(02:40:23):
they wouldn't give him anything to. Hit and, uh and
then and that's how it's going to. Be you, know
we're gonna have, to you, know uh make sure that
some of the other guys may have to pick pick
us up because if they continue to pitch around, them you,
know which it seems like they're gonna. Do you, know
it could it could make it make things a little
bit more. Difficult BUT i think we have enough guys
(02:40:45):
in this lineup where there's really no, escape right and
so you, know but they're, GONNA i really see that
they're going to pitch around. Them you, know maybe maybe
the guys coming in at the end of the game
that are throwing Real. Hall you, know they may go
right at, them but some of the STARTERS i think
is gonna pitch around.
Speaker 1 (02:41:03):
Them, yeah which is my. Concerned Any and you AND
i talked about a little bit in your confidence That
jordan makes everybody. Better and obviously he even changes the
pitcher's approach right just with him in the, lineup, Obviously
but if you, don't it's almost like you Got you've
got to get production for protection because you AND i
both know place it's. Logical i'm not letting that cat beat,
(02:41:24):
me SO i can literally take the bat out of
his hands IF i don't get other guys that are
forcing you to have to pitch to. Him and that's the.
Concern is there any concern that you're gonna see this
the next thirty days or do you believe wholeheartedly that
The walkers and the Diaz is and The koreas and
the al two days are gonna hit enough for the
other teams to say we can't afford to put him
(02:41:45):
on with four. Pitches.
Speaker 13 (02:41:47):
Yeah and ALSO i think he's probably gonna hit a
little higher in the, lineup and then we're trying to get,
him you, know go back going. Again Uh and and
they're gonna, look there's gonna be no escape in this.
Lineup you try to walk your, on you're just gonna
put runners on base that hadna end up. Scoring and
SO i feel very confident about you, know OUR tv
And walker And sanchez being able to drive yourd on
(02:42:11):
and if they walk, them you, know because those are
some of the guys that may hit behind. Them but you,
know make no, mistake the team's good enough and then
lineup's deep enough that you can't just walk yourd on
and expect to win baseball.
Speaker 1 (02:42:24):
Games i'm gonna end with this.
Speaker 8 (02:42:26):
Man thank.
Speaker 1 (02:42:26):
YOU i know your schedule is. Busy we appreciate you
being able to come on h on the. Shorter notice
this starting pitching, staff you know you got. There like you,
said you're built for playoffs when they're. Right is your
starting pitching staff right right?
Speaker 15 (02:42:40):
Now?
Speaker 13 (02:42:42):
YEAH i, mean, Look Hunter brown's out of last night
was the quality.
Speaker 11 (02:42:46):
Start you.
Speaker 13 (02:42:47):
Know you, know he pitched you, know six and two,
thirds and you know he gave up like two earned
runs and seven punchouts with no, walks and so it's
tough to be on the loop the end of, that you,
Know and so you, know and then you Have. Farmber you,
Know farmer's been. Good you know the fact That farmber
(02:43:08):
won thirteen in a row at one, point we've won
thirteen in a row at one, point and with his,
STARTS i think he was like ten and oh during that.
Time and so you, know sure Like farmer's, Good like
he's the top of the rotation. Guy and you know
we're getting some guys, back you, know With javier And
arraghetti that we you, know we're gonna expect to turn the.
Corner And alexander's been outstanding AS i mentioned this last
(02:43:31):
four starts for four and, oh and we're expecting him
to you, know throw well again On. Thursday and, so,
look this rotation is good. Enough we have thirty. Games
we're good enough in the, rotation we're really good in the.
Bullpen we can catch the. Baseball, defensively we made the
mistake last night and we could swing the. Bats so you,
(02:43:51):
know there's there's not a mistake while we're in first.
Speaker 1 (02:43:55):
Place there's no.
Speaker 13 (02:43:55):
Mistake even with all the, injuries there's still no mistake
that this team's really and SO i would expect, that you,
know we should go on a, run win the, division
get deep into the.
Speaker 1 (02:44:06):
Postseason your ace last night six and two. Thirds you,
said six hits, scattered six, runs two, earned seven, k's
no base on. Balls that's good enough to win most.
Nights and it's gonna have to be a little more
production to give him some run. Support And i'm not
telling you anything you don't, Know, dana good. Luck we
appreciate you fitting.
Speaker 14 (02:44:24):
In.
Speaker 1 (02:44:24):
Man it's a dead sprint, now my manuntil the, finish
thirty games to, go and we look forward to Next wednesday's.
Conversation appreciate you absolutely dead.
Speaker 13 (02:44:33):
Sprint let's go ask still fans hanging. There we're gonna get.
Speaker 1 (02:44:36):
Hot there you, Go, yeah quality, start and you Know
i've gotten to the Point dan With day we're now With,
dana but With Hunter brown that even when you see
him give up six, hits it's almost, shocking you know
WHAT i. Mean it's. Weird AND i know the air
and stuff and the two earned runs with the six
hits but struck out. Seven the key is commands of,
strike so no base on, balls no free. Passes that
(02:44:58):
should be good enough to. Win and it's. Crazy we're, saying,
eh is he not pitching as? Well and maybe it's.
Not doesnet looks dominant because it Was. Colorado but the
dude is the Ac your. Staff they got to give
him some, help, Right they got to hit And fromber
has got to pitch like a cy young. Guy he
just has.
Speaker 8 (02:45:16):
To he absolutely has.
Speaker 6 (02:45:17):
To that's part of all the. Frustration we'll talk about it.
