With the division race beginning to tighten and wrapping up their interdivision rivalry series yesterday, the Astros broke out the brooms here at Daikin as they went on to take all three games from the Texas Rangers following yesterday's final score of 5-2. Gaining the sweep, the Astros spring back into 1st place of the AL West Division, just ahead of the Mariners by half a game and 5 games leading the Rangers. Set to tee back into action tomorrow against Seattle as we dwindle to the final 3 series of the season, Sean and Dan take a look at the Astros' recent games and toss around a few ways they can sustain this great play they've ushered in coming out of this Rangers' series, rolling into these last few games.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Ah, who do love Josey Altuve? I mean, you know,
at least that's what Joe A.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Spotts.

Speaker 3 (00:06):
You don't, man, you said many times in the show
that bench him. Not I never said that, not Trip
and I heard not once has that ever the guys
you said you hated on a team, not once Walk Dude,
I didn't understand why. Like we're on the air, You're like, oh, yeah,

(00:28):
I can't stand out to me. Then you come out here.
I kind of like him, So I don't get it. Dude,
you can't down Jones. It like they're hitting order. No,
you can't do it. It's like Tim Meadows to it.
It's like Tim Meadows. Don't refer to a movie that
nobody knows about. I think some people are going to
know this, Jimmy Meadows.

Speaker 1 (00:43):
It's just like you said to John c Riley's character
Dewey Cox, he never once paid for drugs.

Speaker 2 (00:48):
So I'm I'm Dewey Cox Cox.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
I probably give away what the movie is, right, Yeah,
it's Walk Hard, It's it's the it's the parody of
the Walk. The line the Johnny Cash, Yeah, Johnny Cash,
but he never wants paid for drugs. And I never
once said that about Jose Elf.

Speaker 3 (01:04):
I've kind of swore. I heard you say, bench him,
trade him. He's not a Hall of Famer? Did you
say that a sudden I said neither, And then Triple
and I said, wha, well, wait a second, man, the
guy's going to get hot. There was more than one,
so it's not there. I've said none of those things, man,
and then Triple and I were like, Ray, like, the
guy's gonna get hot. He's a Hall of Famer. It
always does. He would get going. I mean, maybe not
as long as this one, but he'll get it going.
And he'll probably be Homer tonight. That's what he said yesterday.

(01:27):
What he Homers?

Speaker 2 (01:27):
That's it?

Speaker 3 (01:28):
And you said he's never going to Homer again in
his life. That's not true.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
But that you No, that wasn't No, wasn't me. You
must have been somebody else. Must have been an invasion
of the body snatchers.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (01:38):
You're not going to come in here and say you're
guaranteed a World Series after three straight wins, or you
still saying yeah, I still their half game up now,
I still don't. I don't like their style. What do
you go say? Is it disdained Danny today or no,
that's great, or upbeat Danny beat Danny. It is good
dinner last night with some good buddies. Time a win
victory al two v Homers.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
Good Mexican food, had a game up on the TV.
So it's real rolling. We're high five and we're enjoying that. Yeah,
little Margot, little dap, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
I was. I was of the survasive variety.

Speaker 3 (02:09):
Oh a little cold beer, Oh yeah, mug bottle, can
mug bottle into a mug bottle into the some tahen
and some lives. It must have been a Mexican beer.
Oh yeah, yeah, must have been a Mexican Mexican spot,
good spot. Nice. Nice. Who do you think you'd pull quicker?

(02:31):
Margo or Rita? I mean, if you were sitting there
and there's two there's two ladies sitting at the at
the bar well and one's names their backs to you.
One's name's Margo and one's name's Rita. Who's who's hotter?

Speaker 1 (02:44):
I don't think I've ever met a Rita that was
close to my age, but I.

Speaker 3 (02:48):
Had the name Rita means your seventy.

Speaker 1 (02:50):
Well, like there was a girl that was a cheerleader
you know, for us at Saint Thomas, your name was Margo.

Speaker 3 (02:55):
She was pretty hot. Yeah, she was blonde, guaranteed.

Speaker 1 (02:58):
It's like kind of like dirty blonde, like maybe a
little bit more than brown here, like brown here.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (03:04):
Okay, so I was a fan little dishwater blod yeah
type of thing. You go, right, yeah, so so you
go Margot. Oh, so what I say, The name Rita
does like your grandmother's grandmothers. That's that's more.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
That's that's more of that, like like Rita, like you
know Nelda.

Speaker 2 (03:23):
Yeah, there's no there's there's no Neldo age.

Speaker 3 (03:26):
My grandmother's name. My mom's mom was Naomi. That's old school, right, Naomi. Yeah,
the powerful name, right, and she was a strong woman.
So you walk in and you're sitting there. Now, what
happens though, if you walk into a bar the next
time and there's two friends that are sitting there and
their name is Bargo and Reed, are you gonna cry laughing?
I mean, what are you gonna look at it and start
laughing at her face? Like my buddy wanted me to

(03:47):
know which was and what if Rita is like blows
Margot away could be So it's not you're not going
in with preconceived ideas that Margo's always hotter than Rita.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
Well, I mean, here's the funny thing is I once
met a girl and her legit name was Margarita, like
Santa Margarita.

Speaker 3 (04:04):
Yeah. Yeah, was the left side of her face hotter
on the right side?

Speaker 2 (04:08):
Two face, Tommy Lee Jones.

Speaker 3 (04:11):
There you go, all right, I'm just curious. I'm just
curiou see you a good night. So you're no this
day dad sweeping ready for the Is momentum gonna carry over?
Or does it get bam? I mean, big, big win
last night. Huge, should have a big win for the
Mariner's opponent too. Last year is nice? Nice for the
Royals to be able to ship in seven to five.

(04:32):
So now your half came up. If the Astros get
swept against the Mariners, and that'll put them with two
and a half.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
Down, Yeah, that'd put them two and a half six
to go. Could they overcome it to we the division?
It'd be very tough. I mean, even with the Dodgers
kind of scuffling lately, although I think they won last night.
They did so even with them still being in the race,
that's only three Because you can't count on Colorado and
especially to Seattle doesn't lose at home. So so I

(05:01):
think you can probably pencil in a sweep for Seattle
either one.

Speaker 3 (05:04):
If either one swept this, the division's there is more
than likely.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
Yeah, I mean, because it's also today is huge where
the Astros are off, but Seattle and Kansas City are
gonna play.

Speaker 3 (05:13):
Well, it's like their first day off in twenty three
days or something. They're like tow there's like twenty two
of the last twenty three, right, They've ore twenty one
of the last twenty two straight, right, And so it's
been been since what in the teens in August since
they had time off, yes, something like that, So it's
would be good for them. Uh. And then no more
days I mean days off as it goes until you

(05:34):
Clint is saying you ain't getting a day off.

Speaker 1 (05:36):
Though, well, I mean I think it goes even further
than just days off, because I mean Cleveland is lurking,
and Cleveland's trying to get into this wild card picture.
The Guardians beat the Tigers again last night.

Speaker 3 (05:49):
They always hang around. Man, if you ever notice that
doesn't Frank or not they did fran Cone or not
it's like they all take on the personality jose ra Merrs.
They just grind it out here as stee Kwan. They
just like an energy's like, well, oh they're still hanging
in this thing.

Speaker 1 (06:04):
Could they almost be like what Detroit was last year,
because I mean, similar deal trading away Josh Naylor. I mean,
I'm trying to remember who else they traded away. But
we've seen Kansas City be in this situation as well.
So yeah, man, it's it's gonna be if there's a
hell of a hell of a three game series by they.
But now with you being in first by a half
a game, you're also a game and a half back

(06:26):
of Detroit with eight games to go, yeah, eight, nine, nine, Right.

Speaker 3 (06:30):
No, they'll be there. There's there's nine games to go. Yes,
three here, three, and you got three Angels three here
and three. I'm just talking about the three you got Seattle,
the Angels in and Oakland in nine games.

Speaker 1 (06:42):
Yeah, so with nine games left to go, I mean
that's not insurmountable. You can you can overtake them, and
if you're able to clinch that up, then you can
rest people because at that point, I mean, I think
the Astros best chance is being able to get in
one of those top two spots.

Speaker 3 (06:58):
That great.

Speaker 1 (06:59):
Because you do that, you can rest up your pitching,
set it up the way you want to give even
more time possibly for a yord On return, maybe even
for hater two. Who knows about Bennett. So Susa, I
mean you get Let's just say you get two of
those three guys back and that happens, then you can
start dreaming.

Speaker 3 (07:16):
Let it also be a good shout of Itam and
B twelve too, man, Just like just for your players,
just to know that your reinforcement and reinforce it not
only the resilience, but your lineup's good enough to to
not just production with resilience. You know, there's different you
can be. You can be a battler and still loose,
but to be resilient win is a big thing. And

(07:38):
this was a huge pressure sweep. It really was. Tell
me again, Dan, I know the answer this, but just
reminded I. In the three game series, how many runs
they score?

Speaker 1 (07:51):
Three games series they scored? Let's see six last night?
Was it twelve or eighteen? I mean you go on,
let's see eighteen?

Speaker 3 (08:04):
Uh, how may days score on Friday night?

Speaker 2 (08:07):
Friday night they scored eleven.

Speaker 3 (08:10):
Okay, how many days score on Saturday.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
Seven seven runs?

Speaker 3 (08:14):
And how many days they score on six six, six,
six on sementy last night and then last night they
scored six. It's nineteen runs. They've averaged six and a half.
Well so nineteen eight, eight and eight what I mean
a seven seven, and they've averaged just under just over
six runs a game, six and about six and a

(08:34):
third six and three six point three runs a game
little more than that. They'll win all the time averaging that.

Speaker 1 (08:39):
And they flashed up Andy just asking for four, right,
and they flashed up a graphic last night that seven
eight nine in this order, which I means funny enough.
You put Yers down there to balance things out, Uh,
first and seconds. I believe in hits and runs, and
I think their second in RBI in this month, well

(09:00):
three twenty seven with runners in the scoring position.

Speaker 3 (09:02):
Talked about it with Dana Brown yesterday about just how
important the other guy has been in this lineup pitching
and hitting this year. And listen, this isn't new to
winning baseball teams. It's not just your stars. Now they
have to care because you're not going to be able
to get through the playoffs with seven, eight and nine
being the lead dog. You just not. You have to
have your big boys take care of their business. And

(09:23):
then one of those are two of those guys at seven,
eight and nine come through at times during the playoffs
and they've done it all year. They really have pitching
and the other guy has been real big and helping
carry this team to where they are at half game lead.
They just are so you know, sometimes that can be cliche.
Oh yeah, count on those guys that those the guys

(09:43):
who weren't you didn't count on to contribute. But think
about the number of this it's not just been one.
Think about the number of those guys that have contributed.
With all the injuries and in life of some of
those guys that you expected to be better haven't been.
So it's it's been impressive. And after all this or
half game in front with nine games to go, it's
a good place to be. Yep, and coming off a

(10:04):
sweep like you know me, I don't believe in game
in game to game momentum, confidence, yes, for sure, and
they got to be gathering it and then you and
you beat it. I mean, the guy pitched last night's
pretty good. For the other team I'm talking about too. Yeah,
he ain't bad.

Speaker 1 (10:19):
Although here's the thing. I mean, let's go ahead and
not bury the lead with him. He went a little frommer.
There's no doubt the Grom. I think his frustration boils over.
I mean it was into the dugout and and the
right thing is too, is he didn't throw any punches,
but it was with his left hand that he threw
his glove against the wall.

Speaker 3 (10:39):
Yeah, it's just that the frustrated at this time of year,
you realize and they probably realized, we just our playoff
hopes just damn near went out the window. So and
he's so good, right, But what I'm saying is that
that confidence from game to game. But you know how
good in game momentum, you get two col Raley home
runs and that can that can shut down momentum in
a hurry. So that confidence so grows and after night

(11:02):
did this has got to be one of the biggest
three game series they've had runs wise, as far as
average and six and you know, six point three or
so runs a game. It's big against a good team
and that's important.

Speaker 1 (11:13):
Well, I mean with nine games left to go, I
mean unless Kansas City pretty much wins out. They have
no shots, So it really comes down to the Guardians
and Rangers that are still lurking. So let's just say
with the Rangers now, at this moment, you are five games.

Speaker 2 (11:27):
In front of them.

Speaker 3 (11:28):
They're not catching you.

Speaker 1 (11:29):
So you win four games, they're done no matter what happens.
Because you have the tie break, you can pretty much
play sub five hundred baseball and win. And then the
last nine games and still staved them all.

Speaker 2 (11:40):
And that was pretty much it.

Speaker 1 (11:41):
I mean, you know, for all of the injuries that
the Astros have had, they're not going to feel sorry
for anybody else but for the Rangers. Nice little time
with Hellman and Freeman and some of these other guys
that came in for you know, Seeger and Simeon. But
I mean that's eventually what did them n Yeah, well.

Speaker 3 (11:59):
They couldn't over injuries like this team has. So it's
a fact their big boppers go out. They could never
quite catch up. The first place, the Astros have hovered
around it or been in it even with all their
when their stars have been hurt. So there's just a
there's a there's different and this team's a little different
than that one. Not they're not good. This team's a
bit more resilient when it comes to being able to overcome,

(12:20):
and that's a tribute to the depth of an organization,
and they just and expectations. So I'm anxious to see
what they're going to do. And with the Rangers moving forward,
what Boat is gonna do if he's if he says,
you know what, came back, got a World Series, somebody
else's turn or comes back and gives it one more run.
But obviously they're going to play hard and hope they

(12:40):
go win nine in a row and put pressure on people.
But I think the Rangers are probably going to be
home for dinner in the next nine game.

Speaker 1 (12:47):
Now, I'm not gonna have a lot of tears from us,
especially after twenty twenty three. Someone three two, one, two
five seven ninety the number to get in and Sean
mentioned the other guys not just a great movie, also
a reason to celebrate this team.

Speaker 2 (13:01):
We'll discuss right here.
