(00:07):
Okay, let's do this. SeanSalisbury, The usc Truth, longtime friend,
Shawn Salisbury, Brianma, Go Lobos. This is the Sewan Salisbury Show,
Sean Triple, good morning. Sofrom an assistant to going to coming
on back. He was already uin burnt orange on their website. Yeah,
(00:31):
yeah, well he wasn't late.I can tell you that. Oh
because his last name is Early,I get it. Something you would know
about his last day be it early? Oh yeah, that's a dude.
See look how you that's just man. We can't have insights. They don't
(00:52):
know that. The only thing thatmatters is it you do. I don't
really give a rat size about whoelse knows. Yeah, if you're to
laugh with me, you look likeyou got up at four ready to go.
You look you look quafft quaft huhyeah nice quaff on Let me look
that up. C O I FF E D. Would have to do
(01:12):
with your quaff Yeah, I wouldhave to do with your lid. You're
lettuce. Yeah. I got anew hairstell. Yeah you know, I
cut the I don't have the babypregnant. What I mean another? Changing
your hair mustache? A quaff isactually spelled q U A f F.
(01:34):
I don't think so. When somebodygoes and says you got a quafted,
I don't think that's the que.I think it's a c A quaff is
actually an alcoholic beverage. Yeah, that's not it. Okay, go buy
how I spelled to see if I'mclose c O I c O I f
f E D there it is.Why are you ever doubting my knowledge,
(01:56):
my ability to spell. Actually, waff is a fitting cap worn by both
men and women. So if youget into tightly quaff that's basically cap meaning
your hair, that's all you did. That's right, that's exactly right.
I bet the kids are not sayingthat, Tripoli. Well the kids are
them kids man. Matter of fact, if we could just kill the generation
from about thirty years well no,no, I'm thirty five. You're good,
(02:19):
So kill them all, take themall out, take them all out.
Kids that we love to have kids. We got one right here with
us. Yeah, be sure,is a grinder, grinder for us.
You know, you know what theAstros did. They took out Grimace.
They did two or three, andin truth, the Grimace mets the way
they had to take care of theirbusiness in I mean, you have to
(02:43):
love the way that they grinded tocome from behind in one and take care
of their business. I mean thatgame was a five six to them frombers
outing he was not good And wasit his outing they came from Yeah,
they came from behind him. Theycame from behind one. That was his
outing. I'm sitting here thinking itwas Blanco, who go who got beating
his outing? But in Fromer's out. And then yesterday all the delay,
(03:04):
Dude, I got to the pointwhere I was, I go tired of
flicking back and forth and saying, okay, is this so I'm watching golf,
watching other stuff? I go back, it's still I mean, you
saw every highlight over the last fortyseven years on Space City Network about the
Astros. Uh Bob Watson Homer inone of the astros silights yesterday. Yeah,
so all that, and then tocome back and you know, go
(03:27):
up, get there, you know, get there running the night and then
all of a sudden, boom theytie it up five to five, and
you think, oh man, theguy on second nobody out and they were
able to get out of the inningand then turn around and mash in the
top of the tenth. Uh thewas it was impressive. Jake Myers continues
to do some things that are impressive. And who who got that hit down
(03:47):
the line for the double? Doyou remember? I was, uh yeah,
get it loose, clear it upgoing opo right down the line,
smoked it coming in his first playfirst base is Joey Loperfido? Yeah?
I mean he he tied up.He tied him up, handcuffed him at
third. Mariners lose, you're threeand a half out. Yeah, you
(04:09):
know who else continues to just pitchextremely well as Taylor Scott. He gave
you two innings after that rain delaybecause Josh Hader was getting ready to come
in then obviously you know with thetwo and a half almost three hour rain
delay, Taylor Scott comes in,throws two innings, He's got a one
point four to nine are did henot go two and a third or something
the day before? Did he notgive me two innings or two and two
(04:29):
to a third the day before ortwo days before that? Did I not
get like five innings out of himin two and a half days or two
days if I'm not mistaken inning anda third the day before and then a
third of inning on Friday night.Okay, so a three straight and took
care of He's been a sneaky Ihad not MVP one of those guys.
There is no way, like Isaid, he's played on a different team
(04:51):
every year in his career for likeforty of them, right, I mean
this is like five year seven, this is seventy seven, right, But
this team, out of respect forhim, you had the I mean respect
for his performance. This guy ismaking a case that this is his team,
not his team, but his teamto stay on right where he's not
on an eight team in eight years. And it was impressive, the hitting,
(05:15):
the clutch hitting, coming from behind, dealing with the delay that you
know on Sunday, a lot ofdifferent things hit this week. And when
you can overcome a poor pitching performanceand still find a way to win after
being down on the road against theteam who was sizzling in the Mets,
and it was just and Scott gothimself behind in a couple counts yesterday and
(05:38):
pitched his way out of it.When there's gone second with no outs,
Nemo comes in, gets a basehit on second, no outs, and
they did not surrender that run.In the ninth, which would have put
it in a bind because you probablywould have pitched a little different coming out
in the tenth and bomb, boomboom, Astro's hammerm get themselves going and
you know, the winning run drivenin by Jake Myers, and then you
get some insurance. It just itwas a really impressive job by the Astros
(06:02):
this weekend to get to three anda half. They'll play today. Both
the Mariners, I think, andthe Rangers are off abbreviated schedule for most
of Major League Baseball, but theyget a day game because they got four
against Toronto. This has been ahell of a role by them. Man.
It's it's pretty cool to watch theway that they've They've fought back when
(06:23):
a lot of people had left themfor dead and accept themselves. And ten
days ago they were ten games out. They are now three and a half
games out and don't look now,but I got news for you. The
pressure starts to fall squarely on theSeattle Mariners heading towards the second half of
the season. Because there's a teamcalled the Astros that have been there,
done that. There's a team calledSeattle that has rarely been there and has
(06:45):
never done that, meaning the WorldSeries. So here we freaking go and
don't look down. And I'm we'redoing this without we meaning the Ashs are
doing this without their Hall of Famepitcher and they're MVP right fielder. It's
it's been impressive. And you askguys to step in and do their gig
(07:06):
when somebody else is out. Greatteams find somebody. Now, you can't
ask anybody come in and do exactlywhat a guy's been doing, but you
have to have somebody or two thatcan come in and give you production when
quite frankly, you can tell mewhatever you want. The best all around
player on the Astros plays right field. Yeah, it's Kyle Tucker. There's
no doubt. YEA and so andand him being out and them doing this,
(07:27):
it's not This isn't one of thoseOh I know what some of the
talk will be, Oh, wedon't need Kyle Tucker. We win without
him. We don't need to payhim all that money. Let's move on.
The team is not better with KyleTucker. They've just happened to play
better. But here's the way Ilook at it. I don't look at
they're better with Kyle Tucker. Ithink imagine how they'd be with him.
But really good teams say, okay, man, a great player on our
(07:50):
teams, out, what are wegonna do. We can sit here and
fall to fifteen games out of firstplace, or we can jump on this
thing and everybody else somehow moving aroundfrom Myers and McCormick to dubond low,
Perfido to Singleton to Tuck, Imean, to jord On to Altuve to
whoever it is that has to stepup and get something done. Three more
(08:11):
hits yesterday if I'm not mistaken byDiaz in his game. So you can
you can do all that stuff andsit there and say you can pout,
or you can say we've got tofind a way to elevate from our if
you're a seven and a half toan eight and a half, and get
stuff done. Okay, and guesswhat they have. So this is an
(08:31):
incredible now you bring when Tucker comesback. It's not the pressure Brian where
he has to go play like anMVP and just swing away and say I
just got to do my thing. And kudos to the pitching staff as they
continue to roll along and get stuffdone. When four starters and a fifth
kind of starter and Jamie France isout. Yeah, and they still don't
(08:52):
have them. And this is thiswould, to me since I've lived here
be the most amazing satisfying season ofthe year, of the of the seven
or eight year run. Why becausethis one's been far different than the previous
ones. And man, can Iremind you a month ago where Alex Bregman
was Yeah, he was like itbarely two hundred yeah, and I think
(09:13):
at one point didn't he dipped abucket ninety eight or yeah, So here
you go. It's a it's beenreally really really impressive. Impressive. But
you know what you can never hideBrian ever ever ever is talent. All
the great coaching and all the greatstuff that goes on is fine. You
gotta have some luck along the way, injury wise. You got have some
luck in a baseball game too.You blop a single for a base hit,
(09:35):
and we've seen it work four andagainst the Astros in the past.
I aw soft contact and the teamscored. You absolutely have to have some
of that. But most importantly, when anybody says, what's the first thing
you got to have on a teamthere there, then there's one thing.
First one talent, and then insidethat talent, you gotta have people that
(09:56):
are grind and have toughness and mentaltal toughness and all those things. And
you put a team together where theyfit and they get along in chemistry and
all that. But if you don'thave talent, you won't win sustained.
You will not sustain winning. Youjust won't. Ask Oakland, they'll get
some talent, they get ridy, they'll win once in a while at a
grit and toughness, but they can'tsustain. You can't sustain winning without talented
(10:18):
players. And the astros from playerto player every single year the last eight
years have been as talented as anyroster in baseball for the most part.
Yesterday was a bullpen game, surewas, and you find a way a
bullpen game, but you can't turnthose bullpen games into throwaway games. It
just can't be. Oh, herewe go, you're on the road.
(10:39):
You want to win against the hotteam, because guess what that bullpen game
did for them? Gained them agame on the Seattle Mariners, got them
the series win. Exactly right.Let's look more into that bullpen game and
look at some of the arms thatdelivered for the Astros yesterday as they close
in on the Seattle Manners in theAl West. We'll discuss the next on
Sports Talk seven ninety. Let's alsotalk about Kobe Stevens Golf Apparel Kobe Stevens
(11:03):

fishing tournament, tournament that benefits theUnited Way Galveston County Mainland. They were
down there, they had a bigtent, tons of merchandise being purchased.
In all of that money, asmall portion of it goes back to the
United Way Galison County Mainland. That'swhat Kobe Stevens Golf Apparel does when they
(11:26):

whatever it is. They've been toso many different ones right here in the
city of Houston. They've gone outto Colorado, They've been out to Louisiana,
Florida, you name it. Itdoesn't matter where they're going to go
support the charity organizations. They doit right here in the city of Houston.
It's just more reasons to shop atKobe Stevens dot com. And of
(11:46):
course it's the apparel. It's thebest fitting, best looking, best feeling
apparel around. They've got golf polos. They got the resort collection back up

(12:07):
later on this week, gets youa red, white and blue polo from
Kobe Stevens Golf Apparels Kobe Stevens dotcom. Look good, feel good,
Play good, Kobe Stevens Golf Apparel. This is the Sean Salisbury show Good.
Yesterday the Astros, it was abullpen game, and the bullpen pitched
(12:31):
well. Sean Dubin got the start. He threw three and a third,
walked three, didn't give up anyhits, struck out two fifty five pitches
and then uh, one of theguys that was just called up, Brian
King, pitched an inning in twothirds, no hits, one walk,
(12:52):
one. K Seth Martinez came infor an inning. Uh, he got
roughed up a bit, three hits, two eur and run in just eighteen
pitches. Brian and Brave of course, gave up that game tying home run
Ryan Presley with a clean inning, and then we talked about Taylor Scott.
He comes in after the rain delay, two innings, one hit, one
run, one walk, twenty ninepitches and then Contreras came in to finish
(13:18):
the game. They win ten tofive. There's some good and there's some
there's some concern to this. Goodis the way they performed, And doesn't
the bullpen deserve You know, whenyou're in class and you're like in the
fourth grade and you get a starfor being a good student, finish in
your math before everybody else to putit on the board to simb me up
and give you, don't they deservesp I mean, I know the struggles
(13:39):
at the back end of the bullpenearly in the season, but in truth,
what you've expected from then, fromall the three or four guys that
you replaced, that we were workhorsesin this lineup that are no longer here.
Engraveman still hurt, don't you?Aren't they one of the heroes is
a tough word to use, butaren't they one of the big reasons this
(14:01):
team slowly hung in there. Yeah, when you really think about their overall
from guys you didn't expect it from. In truth, these guys, a
lot of them have just been guysand other bodies elsewhere or here that if
that if you kind of sent downbrought how many times Seth Martinez gone down
and up quite a bit? Howmany times I mean we mentioned Taylor Scott,
he's on a seven team to sevenyears. Yeah, you start to
look around at that the bodies andyou're like, dubin, where's he been?
(14:26):
Has he been a star for thisteam? So my point for the
most part, right, so youstart to think about where they were,
where some have come from, andwhat they've done this year. You can't
help but applaud them for what they'vedone. The good part of it and
much needed and when you you know, you hope you don't have to tax
them, but they're getting extra usebecause well you got four guys. And
(14:46):
the bad part of this is whenyou have to go a bullpen game,
Brian, which I know we've seenthroughout the course of time people do it
and they'll mix it in sometimes isyou you love the performance you get from
them but you know what it tellsyou though. The negative part is you
don't have fifth starter. That's theproblem. Yeah, you're still searching in
(15:07):
place of fist start because they don'teven know. When we talked to Dana
Brown last week, and well,Duban can give us. I mean they
started to go through and then minorleague names and not that they can't do
it, but you're scramble around tofind how they're going to do it and
who that and maybe just like firstbase, it's going to be a plethora
of names, right and how muchclose? I don't know. Did you
(15:28):
hear anything? I didn't hear anythingcloser over the weekend. Maybe I didn't
pay close enough attention to the Verlanderor Tucker talk. But I still have
no clue of when they're due backother than the day to day progressing type
stuff. I have not heard asolid date unless I miss something over the
weekend. So let's see if I'mnot. Yeah, Justin Verlander has resumed
(15:50):
playing catch and said that he feltgood. Verlander threw from sixty feet.
That was Dana Brown on the broadcastwith Robert Ford prior to the game yesterday.
Playing catch resumed from sixty feet. It's not quite long toss yet,
and you're not pitching off flat andyou're not pitching off a mount. That's
(16:10):
just playing catch. That's exactly whatI still got a couple of weeks.
I don't see how he's back beforethe All Star Game. I don't think.
I don't think they'd risk it,especially with the way they're playing.
Remember two weeks ago, right beforeI got ready to go on my trip
to Florida, when I said Idon't think that we'd see Kyle Tucker before
the All Star break, and y'allbout called me crazy. Well, and
I still want to call you crazy, but I'm not sure you're off.
(16:33):
He's not playing I don't well. And I brought it up Brian after way
discuss the said, well, letme see what Dana Brown says. And
Dana Brown last Wednesdays I said,is there a legitimate chance so we may
not see Kyle Tucker till after theAll Star But he goes he didn't.
He couldn't. I don't want tosay couldn't fathom it, but it felt
that that felt too far for him. But once again, which the one
thing that Dana Brown and you andI can't control, or neither can the
(16:55):
astros is. I don't care ifyou're the trainer. I don't care if
you say, man, the guy'sthere's nothing as far as physically when it
comes to structural there's nothing wrong anymore. Threshold of pain and we don't know
what it is. But you're downto what how many games? They're eighty
two games or eighty one game? They played eighty two forty one, so
(17:15):
they played eighty three forty eighty threegames, So they've played two games into
the second half of the season, correct, And now we're down to what
about fifteen or less, fourteen tofifteen games before the All Star break.
Bless you, excuse me, Ididn't get to hit that mic off.
Sorry, excuse me, thank you. They've got four series left, so
(17:36):
they've got four with Toronto. That'sthen three at Minnesota. That's seven than
ten. They've got thirteen games left, yeah, fight so thirteen, So
a little game over Fly fourteenth istheir last game before they All star thirteen
games. Let's say he starts totake batting practice seven eight games into this
All Star I mean into the thesenext seven or eight games, Kyle Tucker.
(18:00):
Yeah, that would leave and you'reand you're still winning and keeping pace.
That would leave six games or fivegames, and if you're keeping pace
or staying within three and a halfare closer, why would you play?
Yeah, you don't. You lethim get a couple of days after in
the All Star break. And nowit's to the point, even if Kyle
(18:21):
Tucker were to be selected to theAll Star Team, once he gets inside
that six seven game threshold, evenif he played two, he can't play
that game, can he? No? I mean he can, I guess
he can. He can. Yeah, it would probably not be optics wise,
a wise move, even though it'sfour you know, four hours down
the interstate or up the interstate.Excuse me, I I just but a
(18:45):
full, healthy Kyle Tucker, freshlegged and ready to go in the second
half. But I think it's it'sbecoming more real once I once you get
inside the eight games or so togo before the All Star break, Brian,
why would you see him? Youdon't because you play a game or
two and then all of a suddenyou're off again, and then you come
back and do it. Just keephitting in the cage, take your time
(19:06):
off, and then there'll be noreason. Then you know what you say
to yourself, I'm gonna get KyleTucker for about seventy straight games because he
didn't gonna need much rest. Hopefullyafter that and his durability, he'll kick
in and let's see what happens. But this team deserves to be a pat
on the back, so not thatI mean they expect to win, but
a lot of for the same reasonswe criticize him, and rightfully so for
(19:29):
the same reasons we should give themthumbs up for the way that they have
grinded and played really good baseball. And while everybody else pretty much said they
were done, if not done,that it's a long that's a long process.
Here we are, man, thereare a series away from being a
half game out, a series awaywith some help from the guys in front
of him. The last update thatChandler Rome of the Athletic put out about
(19:52):
Kyle Tucker was on June twenty fifth, and he said Kyle Tucker took swings
off a tee Sunday and quote couldstart running within the next few days and
quote according to the astros. Thatwas June twenty fifth, and we haven't
gotten really an updates well, I'mhere for all of it, right,
and I know you are too.I'm here for every ounce of it,
but I'm also here for the secondhalf grind instead of Now, this is
(20:17):
different because if you're handled the thresholdof pain and their little structural damage,
I would imagine that little that ankleguard is going to be pushed up to
around the knee, okay, likea catcher's put on guard, right or
or in truth, you know howsome guys wear underneath their uniform, maybe
a little bit thicker pad underneath thepants at least at least resistance if it
(20:38):
bounces off, it goes a littlea little deeper down. But you've got
to do whatever you can, somehow, some way to pad that because if
it's kept him out this long thresholdof pain, and how many times a
year do you think balls hit offthat inside for those for guys like that
all the time, right, that'swhy they wear all that armor. Well,
a little higher up where that thingit doesn't protect you. I would
(21:00):
imagine there's got to be a builtin pad on the inside of a shin.
I would to prevent that from happening, because the next time that happens,
it may we may not be luckyenough to to say that it was
just s threshold of pain as faras no structural damage. Yeah, maybe
we'll get an update today with theAstros in Toronto. One of the things
that Sean mentioned it was the bullpenin some of these arms. But if
(21:22):
you're doing bullpen games, it's becauseyou don't have a fifth starter. Well,
the Astros are basically pitching with aboutfour and a half starters because of
Uh, damn dog, you jammingover here? Whoa, you're starting the
party early, dude, I pushedthe thing. I didn't want to hear
this song, and the song cameon. I'm just you said, hey,
hopefully that I'm just trying to giveyou some some Uh that sounded like
(21:45):
we were in a song. Ready. It was for Triple, Yeah,
exactly, you had a song readyyou wanted do you want? It was
a request for the request line OceanAvenue, Yeah, the Latina bar there,
Yeah, you know you got theredance site Triple. He asked me
to pick him out of song sohe could make sure he was impressing this
lady. She might be too muchfor you, though, triplely Latin,
(22:08):
this might be a little too muchfor you don't. Yeah, man,
you might see her this weekend. No, do you guys break up?
You haven't been back yet. Haven'tbeen back? You know how? You
know what that she probably is?Oh you know what That's called being scared.
No, that's called a guy whosays I controlled this relationship. You
don't, so I get I seeyou once every couple of months. You
come get me. Yeah, Triple, he's got it. You did what
(22:33):
well? Once in a blue moon? Oh okay, the moon hadn't been
blue since Triple the first time.He controls the color of that moon,
apparently controls everything in a relationship. He got a beg. You know,
you know what I want. I'mbegging for for Frober Valdez to figure it
out. That's what he's Yeah, nice tease, though, I like it
(22:53):
from BER's new nicknames dal Jones arehe's up and he's down. That he's
up, he's down, But whenhe's up, we're all capitalized. When
he's down, it's like again bilos, that's the by high cell low.
That's get out. Yeah, that'sexactly what you want to. But if
you're a smart investor, you kindof hang on. If you're right.
(23:14):
Let's hope we get him the good, the good second half. Most of
it's from because when he's good,he's really good. But when he's bad,
he's bad. Boy, is heever? Let's talk about fromer Valdez
outing. Next, on Sports Talkseven eighty, The Shawn Salisbury Show continued,
what a what a? I mean? You know, talk about wow,
talk about a country club? Thismissed the country club. They even
(23:37):
have like cart girls and caddies.Exactly. You guys want some fireballs at
the turn. At the turn,it's like free booze. You know,
you don't have to pay for it. I mean, this is like that
you know that golf course country clubthat your dues are so high and pay
big dues and initiations. But whenyou're there, it's like it's a red
(23:57):
carpet, right, That's exactly whatit is. Unbelievable. But here,
we'll just we'll just sit at ross. Get an hour show today, Adam
and Adam, get like an hourand a half show. We'll just sit
here and grind. You know, you know, how's your three thirty wake
up call day? Pretty good?Yeah? Mine too? Yeah? Yeah
good? Yeah? And then andthen you know Gordy and stand are gonna
be grinding as well. But who'sbut for two hours, right, hope
(24:18):
you're okay at ten o'clock, man, what a beat what a beatdown?
That is? No, I'm kiddingand truth, hey, but you know
what we signed up for it,To be honest with you, I'll take
three thirty in the morning wake upcall just to be in this morning.
I wouldn't. I'm it's this shiftor bust for me. I'll now I
love it now it is, don'tyou love it? Yeah, it's the
(24:40):
best. It's a boast on theplanet. And I get to see your
goofy ass and and we're happy andcalled setting the tone for the day.
You're not only for the radio showwe're supposed to come out, you know,
give us some come out of theblock, but also for your day,
right, you're upe you get alot of accomplishment. Sit there and
get jass out of the sheets andlet's go. Yeah, damn right.
Seven good for them with the truth. We're just we're just chaluting, that's
(25:02):
all. It is, no doubt, there's no question about it. Seven
one three seven ninety Ronnie, whatare your thoughts on the bullpen? Well,
they're all going to die before theend of the season. Uh,
if they keep having to use themthe way they're using it, Ronnie,
we don't want that many funerals.Yeah, that man? That many?
Yeah right you Ronnie. You've beenconcerned about over usage for a while now
(25:25):
on this show, haven't you.Oh? Absolutely? And the thing that
I don't understand if you can,I mean, of course you can use
them because you're not paying these guysas much except for Hater and Presley.
But why couldn't Dubin have pitched anotherinning yesterday? Why couldn't who came in
after him King had pitched King?Yeah, you could have saved the later
(25:51):
on guys by letting them pitch theother guys pitch a little longer. And
another thing if and I'm not sayingdoing it for the rest of the season,
but from now until the All Starbreak, they're in a tough spot.
So if the starters are pitching well, instead of pulling them after eighty
to ninety pitches, let them pitchone hundred and five hundred and ten one
(26:11):
hundred and fifteen pitches, then atthe All Star break you can dial them
back and let them go back totheir eighty to ninety. But they're going
to kill the guys in the bullpenif they keep having to pitch them.
I'd like to know what spark youmight say today, who's going to be
available, who's going and if theyhave to send And this is another thing
i'd like to see baseball. AndI'm totally a traditionalist, but I'm changing
(26:34):
my mind about some of this stuff. Baseball needs to adopt a rule for
their pitchers the way hockey teams do, where you have a roster set,
but each game you have to declarethree or however many players not eligible to
play that day. And they shouldbe able to do that with the pitchers
without having to send a guy downto the miners and not being able to
(26:55):
bring him back for ten days becauseI don't know who they would send down
right now, who's gonna you know, who's gonna pitch? And think and
think about this, Ronnie. Youknow, with the rules, and I'm
with you, and sometimes it's thethey're even hard to follow how they change.
Think about this. You get aguy who's been grinding, who comes
up and down for you and givesyou innings, then they send him to
triple a and he comes up anddown for it gives you more important things,
(27:17):
they send him down. You know, it happens all over baseball.
I'm just using this as an example. So in truth, the guy's been
giving you, you know, neededinnings. You brought him up for a
reason. Yet you're only allowed somany of those. And if you get
to a certain threshold and you needto move somebody because like the tucker comes
back off the you know, theI L then you got a DFA guy
if he's got too many moves.Isn't that the strangest thing that you're punishing
(27:40):
a guy for being a versatile goto guy? And yeah, and I
understand you got to mix and matchrosters, and that's part of scouting and
getting the right people, But theredoes come a point in time you're punishing
somebody who's actually doing what he needsto do. Show up, go back,
show I mean how many times we'veseen it, And then you are
limited on what you can do withyour roster simply because the guy was doing
(28:03):
his job against injuries or something youcan't control. It's an odd combination.
I am with you one, Yeah, no doubt, Well, isn't it?
Because I mean, am I rightabout the hockey rule? You know
they carry a certain number of guyson a roster and every day a certain
number are not available. Yeah, well, I think you are right,
and I think they also. Thephysical and nature of that matters to the
(28:26):
I mean, it obviously comes intoplay. But in truth, even though
it may not be considered what wecall quote unquote a physical game, it
does tax your arm right and youcan never come in. Who would have
thought Kyle Tucker that? So itis physical? Who'd have taught Kyle Tucker
this would kept him out that long? Which is you know you've had to
mix and match roster and we knowwhen Verlander comes back, somebody's getting hosed.
(28:48):
Right. So, Ronnie, youmake a great point because that tradition
sometimes you gotta say, well, let's let's blow tradition out the out the
water. And Ronnie, one thingI'm anxious to see, and we'll talk
to Steve about the bullpen and theusage is. You know, one thing
you're not going to get, Ronnie, and even though we've begged for it
at times, is one hundred andfifteen pitches from a starting pitcher. You
and I both know that's not happening. They will not do that. Even
(29:11):
though a guy may be going goodafter ninety five pitches, somehow someway twenty
extra pitches ruins them for three starts. Or at least that's the perception,
which is a little overboard. Iget you, brother, I'm with you.
It's like, I don't know whyHater couldn't have pitched now it all
worked out, Okay, I don'tknow why Hater couldn't have pitched yesterday just
because he warmed up. I mean, these are grown ass men. They're
(29:34):
finally conditioned, finally tuned athletes. Why can't they take a little stress right
in their line? And I don'tthink it's on them a lot of times,
Ronnie, I think it's the waywe treat it. Yeah, because
I think if you asked Hater,he seems like grinding. Hell, yeah,
I give you another inning? Areyou kidding me? But yet,
we'll put all hands on deck atthe end of the season. Say,
man, if it doesn't work foryou in the offseason, you got to
(29:56):
go get so what. But it'sthe seventh to sixth game of the World
Series of the playoffs on deck sowe can advance. I'm talking about all
teams in baseball. I'm with you. I I think we have gotten to
the point where the word coddle hasbeen a major disservice to baseball. And
how good these guys actually can grind? I do believe? Yeah, yep,
(30:17):
absolutely, all right, well, yeah, I totally agree. And
Robert Ford was talking the other dayabout today being Canada Day, you know,
and how that's why the games inthe afternoon. I don't know if
Brian knew that, but uh,yeah, well what do you really,
Ronnie? You don't think I knewthat? Come on now, I think,
well, I don't know, surewhat you know or not? Oh
(30:40):
my goodness, on man. ButFord Ford said he was talking to Dan
Shuman, you know, the hedoes the Toronto game. Did you know
that? Did you know that?He was phenomena? Oh he is,
absolutely, He's about the best I'veheard since Ben Scully. But he said
they were talking about the fact thatCastros are going to be in Canada on
(31:02):
Canada Day and they sit in alsothe fourth of July, and show says,
oh, it's just Thursday. Youknow, it's no big deal.
It's just Thursday. There you go, that's for them. It is you're
exactly right. Great stuff, Roddy. We appreciate you, Bank, thank
you got thanks. Canada Day.You know I've been up there for that,
right, you know, man upthere for football season when Canada Day.
(31:26):
Yeah, it's it's kind of likethere. You know how Boston has
the one day for the Boston Marathonwhere they start the game like ten thirty
in the month central eleven. Thisis it's their day, and then like
right when we're all celebrating the fourth, it's just another day for baseball.
Yeah, there you go. Imean, it's only like they've been a
lot of fireworks going on this weekaround in Canada everywhere. Right, are
they a lot of light fireworks inCanada? Do we allow that? I
(31:48):
think they do? Don't they? You only ask Justin Trudeau or Trade Trudeau.
Trude. Sorry, I like though, true, dall. I like
that, true Dad, true, true that. No, we don't get
him that now. No, wecan't give that. No, dude's an
idiot. There's been Hey, Ican neither confirm, well maybe I can
confirm. I can't. I can'tdeny. No, that's for sure.
(32:09):
And it is Canada Day. Yeah, I mean they've only been talking about
it being Canadaday while the Ashles getthere for like the last three weeks.
I like day baseball, as youknow, so it gives me a what
we don't usually get Monday Day Baseballunless it's no one of those like a
delayer, and we also get usSenior Open. Just want to let you
know, Senior Open today had toextend because of weather. So those guys,
if you like golf and you wantto watch the big fellows, the
(32:30):
older fellows do it. They'll beplaying today because they got to get the
fourth round in due to the weather. To one. You know, I'm
dumb enough to watch it, butit's not dumb enough. I like,
I want to go with Miguel onHell him Menez okay, or Steve Stricker
or that Steve Stricker. I haven'theard that name in a while. Check
that out. You might want tostart watching the Senior Tour. Okay,

a connection you can count on forThe Shawn Salisbury Show continues in it no
now, you know. Can Imake a quick point about this Paul George,
who at one point in time itwas a phenomenal perimeter defender, right,
(34:43):
I mean, I think he madeall the NBA First Team for saving
He's been a really good defender.Yeah, Paul George is thirty four.
Paul George is the hell of aplayer and a score right, has been
for a long time. And whenit comes to Basketball Hall of Fames,
He's gonna be a Hall of Famerbecause it feels like, I don't want
to say easy, but it's theeasiest of the three because when it says
Basketball Hall of Fame. You canyou can be Basketball Hall of Fame,
(35:05):
or if you're a great executive.I mean, it's just you know,
it covers all the global It's noteven close. Yeah, okay, So
with that, do Paul George isthirty four? What is the Philadelphia seventy
six ers? Hard on? AmI allowed to say that? Yeah?
Or yeah? Yeah, yeah, hard on for even if I'm not,
you know, just their wild hair, whatever it is. I know i'mlie
if not, you know, Ijust slapped my hand for aging scores that.
(35:31):
Listen, if they win a championship, the big fella is going to
be a big reason they're good basketballteam. Don't misunderstand me, But you
just pay two hundred twelve million dollarsfor Paul George? Is he worth it
at thirty five? Oh? Iwoke up and saw the news and I
was like, why Superman is asaw Max contract at thirty four years?
What is it now? Paul Georgeis It's a Lifetime Achievement Award with the
(35:51):
guy who's still got game, Paul. Listen, I have all the respect
I think he can play. PaulGeorge is nobody's number one imagine a sport
where you can be the maybe thethree, the number three, and you're
making two hundred twelve million dollars.Do we just give super max because they're
eligible for it? Yeah, andqualify for it pretty much in a real
world, Paul George is one hundredand twenty million dollar player in the sports
(36:16):
terms. Yeah, I just Iand I would you like him here?
Yeah? He can still defend somehe's not at thirty four. You don't
defend like you did when you're twentyfive. And he can score. And
I do I think he's you say, Paul George or James Harden. I'm
to give me Paul George all theday, every day. Absolutely, But
I just I'm mystified and I'm notanybody's wall good for him. But if
(36:37):
I'm a front office guy and nikkon of me say you want to pay
him a supermax to what losing theplayoffs again? Because I got news for
you. Unless Embiid has another outof body experience, which he has a
lot. He's one of the bestplayers in the league. One guy's not
good enough to win an NBA title. Last the guy in LA right now?
How many how many world championships outsideof the COVID is Anthony Davis have
(36:58):
none? And when he was inhe was in New Orleans. Somebody'd he
get when he was as dominated,I mean, a big man run the
court all none. I just it'sjust baffling to me how nikolay Yokich wouldn't
be a champ if he didn't haveguys around him. And he's as good
as we got in the league, right, it's it's it's by mind boggled.
Well, neither would Johannas. Yeah, and as good as he is,
(37:19):
think about what you have to andI know, oh, Paul George
is Paul George a two hundred andtwelve million dollars number two. No,
it's just weird to me. Yeah, they're handing out bags left and right.
Yep, let's get back out tothe phone line seven one three two
one two five seven ninety Robert,Good morning, Marna, gentlemen, there
are you all? We're good man? What's on your mind? See?
I want to talk about the armsfor the Astros. I do, man,
(37:43):
I'm just curious where the Trevor Bauerstuff is. Uh is as bad
as we are off right now?Currently with the arm situation. You got
Trevor Bower sitting out there with goodstuff. I'm just uh, I hadn't
heard he talk lately on on thatissue and wanted to see if if it
was if MLB was kind of blocking, or if it was just so so
(38:05):
Robert so with with Trevor Bauer.Obviously he's pitching in I believe Mexico.
He threw for some scouts or hethrew. It was him and a bunch
of other guys threw some bullpens twoweeks ago, and there were some scouts
and attendance. Apparently the Astros hada representative there. From what I understand,
it wasn't a scout, it wasjust a representative. There are things
(38:28):
behind the scenes that no one's reallytalking about in the media about him and
more lawsuits against him. He cameout a couple of days ago and tweeted
out some stuff about having to maybesue the Major League Baseball But him and
his agent came out later and saidwe're not going to do that. And
the reason they're not going to dothat is because there was going to be
some information released if that happened. So it's not the it's not Major League
(38:52):
baseball blocking him. No one wantsto sign him in major league And real
quick, Robert, before you go, I know, we got a break
and we're gonna get to all ourcolleors. Guys. We're gonna empty the
bucket seven o'clock and let you guysroll with it. But Robert curious and
to you, Briant, And I'mnot picking a side on this, right,
I mean, I'm not afraid topick aside. Talent requires it,
the speculation on what he's been, but most people in life for getting second
(39:14):
chances if they've been proven not guilty, correct as we sit today, is
in jail. No, okay,it's the optics of it's the optics of
female involved. What was said andwhen there's been that blame on you and
there's stuff penning behind the scenes. But that's still speculation, correct, still
speculation. Not We don't know rightwhere were you? And I said,
(39:35):
maybe some reporter does investigative reporter, but we don't know. So as we
sit here, how many guys inthis world, when things have been proven
not guilty, get multiple chances.Because Kevin Porter Junior just got re signed
to play in the NBA exactly,So I'm not Listen, I'm not saying
whether or not Trevor Bowers. Iknow today from what's happened, he's been
found not guilty and and't say proveninnocent, not guilty. So with that,
(39:57):
Robert, and to go with yourquestion, and this is not to
pick a side, do you believethat there is collusion with this, that
if one's not in all, aren'tin in the Trevor barr just because the
perceived optics to people out there thatwhat might be not what is, but
what might be. If you don'tthen I think, well, there's no
(40:20):
doubt and the fact that he maybe a prick away from all this,
that's just a pure prick. Tellhim to get in line. There's plenty
of those guys, right, Idon't. I'm not a big Trevor Bauer
fan either. First of all,is the UCLA guys will screw them?
No, I'm kidding, but youget my point. So, Robert,
I do you believe that Major LeagueBaseball's literally sat on a conference call and
said, guys, we can't touchhim yet, do you? Because his
(40:42):
talent says yes, his optics sayno. What do you think I'm not
really sure. I know he's gota lot of talent, and he'd be
a cheap arm for the astros.I'd have to probably agree with what you're
saying based on the fact that nobody'spicked him up with his ability. Rightmost
feels that way, Robert, Thanksfor the call, man. It's worth
discussing. Listen, if he didany of it and he's just a bad
(41:07):
this is a bad, bad guy, you know when it comes to But
if we're going by, let theprocess take you know, let the legal
process do its thing, Brian, and we'll discuss on the other side.
But I just I don't whatever whatother people be getting a shot is the
fact that this plus that he's aprick when it comes to social media,
(41:27):
and that when he has that attitude, have the combination of both made teams
say, is the headache worth therisk and the and the pr nightmare if
something else comes out not win?If fair enough? Yeah, let's let's
discuss it further as we get tothe seven o'clock hour next on Sports Talk
seven ninety A Houston, Houston. Then iHeart Radio Station, the exclusive audio
(41:50):
home of NBC's coverage of the twentytwenty four Paris Olympics. This is Sports
Talk seven ninety and the Rocket toyour Home for your home teams, driven

(42:12):
Saulsbury, Oy Houston. Okay, let's do this. Shawn Salisbury to usc
truth, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury, Ryan Lima, go Lobos. This
is the Sewn Salisbury Show. Let'sget back out to the phone line seven
(42:34):
one three two one two five, seven ninety in order of longest wait.
Let's talk to Adrian. Adrian, thanks for holding brother. What's going on?
Oh? Not a lot, Brian, welcome back. Appreciate it.
Man. Hey you came back withno championship. That's twice amen time.
Hey we got to runner up ina massive national championship tournament. I'll take
(42:54):
it, Hey, I'll take ittoo. But the next time you go
and don't come back with well,we're got I have to start calling you
Brian Kershaw. I know, mayMan. That's that's that's cold, right
there. Man. I'm always pickingBrian. If I don't like you,
I ain't picking on it. Oneunder. If your boys ain't ain't messing
with you, then they're not yourboys, right, that's it. That's
(43:15):
it, that's how we get along. Save all this adrenaline. Anyway.
Uh, speaking of adrenaline, JoseAltuve, let me tell you something,
you umpires, you're messing with thewrong. Big little man. That dude
knows the strikes on bitting anybody.I know. That's two times in two
weeks. I like this new altwo b and Fromble from the farmer.
(43:35):
Fromble, you cost me garden workthis week. My old Lady's sitting there
and she's like, who's pitching today. I'm like, Promber. She's
like, I'm going out to thegarden first dinning. I two on the
doors, two on CCR, jointhe old lady. Thanks Fromber. Anyway,
guys, have a good day, stay out of the heat. Let's
go strongs peace. Adrian Fromer didyou a favor. It prevented you from
(43:57):
being in mama's doghouse. He wentout and helped. Yeah, that's for
sure. Let's keep rolling on thephone line. Just talk to Willhouse,
Willhouse, what's happening, Hey,what's up guys? Good morning man.
I love that intro. I lovethat I love the r H C P.
That gets me going. Dude,I'm gonna run through a wall for
you guys. That's a red HotChili Pepper, Shawn the acronym just case,
(44:19):
red hot Chili Pepper. Who's thefront man? Thanks Willhouse for the
acronym as if we don't have tonsof them in this world, Red hot
chili pepper. If you're a big, If you're a big red hot chili
pepper. H Who's who's the lead? Anthony Keatas. Okay, I'm just
making sure Lee not to be considerednot to be confused with fly exactly,
yeah, exactly, gotta go fleethere you go. But yeah, no,
(44:42):
I just wanted to address the callerearlier. Was was he had expressed
some frustration about, you know howpictures get heated up or you know how
they like get up to warm upand then they don't pitch. And I
remember having a conversation with with RyanStanek on our show about that because that
was one of my questions. It'slike, hey, you know, we
saw you warm up and you didn'tgo in and and he just explained that
(45:06):
there's this process that they go throughas pictures and they get heated up,
and if you get heated up oncesometimes though every once in a while,
they'll put a guy up twice toget into a game, and once you
don't get into that game, hesaid, sometimes you don't even pitch the
next day. And it's just aprocess of the getting the adrenaline flowing.
And he just said, what they'retrying to do is keep you free from
(45:29):
injury. And from the common person, it sounds like, oh, you
know, you're a grown man, you're a pro, why can you handle
it? But apparently from a pro'sperspective, and I know, Brian,
you've you've spoken with Stanic several timesand interviewed him, there is a true
process to these relief pictures and thereis a method behind that. And I
think that's something that as I understoodit, it's like, Okay, you
(45:52):
know, I stop getting frustrated aboutthose things. But when you understand them
from their perspective, there is amethod to that. Brian, can you
speak to that. Yeah, weappreciate the call Wheelhouse. I just think
that there's such a process and specializing. Yeah, specialization with guys that get
(46:14):
hot and then go back down andcome up and get hot. And then
with the long delay, I knewas soon as that delay happened. Whoever
was in the bullpen warming up,they were done for this. It's just
like if you were the starter, you would never come back. You're not
coming back right now. You knowwhat else it comes down to is that
we got to distinguish between when Iget Ronnie's point and htown wheelhouse and talking
(46:36):
to Stantic. If you really wantto know what goes on, just talk
to the guys who've been through it. I've talked to Dibble about that many
a times, and guys who havepitched in Major League Baseball who that there
are routines they go through. It'slike a golfer you're not gonna have if
all of a sudden you're waiting fora playoff and you don't warm up and
then you got to take your firstt shot to warm up, well,
then you're putting yourself in a badmind. Those guys are different. They
(46:59):
can warm up fifteen different times becauseit's the ebbs and flows. If they
finished two hours early because they shotsixty and they were the fifteen, they
were the first group off because ofa poor Saturday or what have you.
But with this it's not just thewarm up, it's the intensity of the
warm up, right, I wouldsay I would. I don't know what
the exact average is, but I'mI would assume twelve to fifteen pitches when
(47:20):
you go out there on the moundwhen you're pitching, like you come in
for two hours or three outs, fifteen maybe twenty maybe if you're a three
out guy, a one inning guy. If you're warming up the first time
and you feel it's about to go, you have to ramp up your intensity
to the point of you're not throwingat seventy percent. You're throwing it.
I would imagine ninety percent of youryour efficiency too, because you got to
(47:43):
You can't because if you didn't andyou walked out there and took your certain
warm up tosses, now you're puttingyourself in an injury mind, just like
you would if you're doing it twoand three times in the bullpen, and
especially if you're in a double barrelsituation where two guys are warming up and
then you get up again. Soit's the intensity of the throwing. So
in truth, if you throw twelveto fifteen high intense pitches to get into
a game, to stit the sweatand gets a little flow going and then
(48:07):
then you do go in and youthrow fifteen more pitches for them. Thirty
pitches is you're more than likely notpitching the next day, unless you are
one of those long relief guys.Right, And so I do get why
they do it. The intensity. Now, all of a sudden, they're
going good, and you're you knowhow they're taking their kroll hop to warm
(48:27):
up their first ten throws like anoutfielder. And then before you get on
there, oh, then you gotto speed up and go Now, I
get it. Sit down, andyou haven't even really got into your major
flow. And they go out thereand delay with the coaches, with the
manager's visit and all that stuff pitchingcoaches visit. But the ramping of intensity,
So in truth, you may bethrowing thirty pitches instead of your normal
twelve to seventeen or eighteen pitches. And I think that's a lot of what
(48:47):
has to do, at least Dibble. And when you're a closer like Dibble,
you got one routine, brother, and it doesn't want to be disrupted.
Right, That's just the way itis. Let's take a quick call
before it gets to the stake out. Willard, welcome in, Yes,
I got three short questions for realquick. For First of all, this
morning at one o'clock on on mytelephone on a trade room or rapp.
I don't know how treat this is, Brian and and Sean, but uh
(49:12):
there there's supposed to have been anexecutive in the rage for an office.
I don't know which one, butsomehow he almost got swindled by the Dodgers
for for a minor leaguer for forthe star left fielder. And according to
what they're saying that that if acertain executive had not stopped that trade about
one o'clock or two o'clock this morning, you heard a blockbuster deal for a
minor leaguer for a starleft fielder.Incredible, But do we know who the
(49:36):
Do we know who the person wasthat said this? They didn't say they
didn't. They just said it wasa it was an unnamed source. Okay.
Question number two, Yeah, Idon't know anything about that trade,
do you, Brian? No?Okay? So what's number two? Number
two is that Patrick Mahons was braggingabout a couple of weeks ago on TikTok
or YouTube saying that if he facedthe bully Ryan and lit deepense the Oilers
(49:59):
ninety three, he would have whoopedit. And someone said, are you
sure about that? Because Montana ittook his last great playoff game to beat
him, and he didn't say nothing. Have that. Well. The best
I ever saw against Buddy Ryan's teamwas Marino when they went down there undefeated
on Monday Night football. He gandown to Miami and did as the coach
and Buddy Ryan's defense. They playedthat forty six defense, and nowadays everybody
(50:21):
spreads them out. At that pointin time, Miami instead of being tight
and you two backs in the backfield, they spread them all out. Marino's
release was so quick that even ifthey left an unblocked guy, Marino got
the ball out quickly. And MikeDitka told me personally, if they had
to do it over again, oneof the regrets of his career, aside
from not giving Walter Payton the ballin the Super Bowl to go score a
touchdown, is the fact that theydidn't adjust and Miami did. That cost
(50:45):
him an undefeated season because that wasas dominant a team as there was,
and Marino's quick release they could notadjust to. And the Bears I played
against that forty six defense, andit was brutal. You needed a guy
like Marina who got the ball outquick. So there's your number two answer.
I get it. Yeah, here'shistory of a question I don't have
real quick. Do you think theAstros might have a snowball chance in hell
(51:07):
of getting left fielder from the raisRandy for Jacob Melton and another picture and
you put him besides are or theygo to play and beat if the blue
jayjer selling depends on how bad therecord is or worst kids, do you
think they'd have a chance of gettingValan McGear I'm a junior, appreciate the
(51:29):
call, Willard. I personally don'tthink a Rose Arana is gonna be here,
and I don't think left field,and they obviously don't need a right
fielder. I don't think left field'sa position a major concern for them.
Now a Rose Arena who's a competitorand a really good bat, I don't
think that would be it. Thequestion is do you want Vlad Guerrera?
What's it about a year and ahalf. I think he's under Kyle Tucker
(51:52):
about a year and a half andhe's starting to heat up. But you
got to think about the price, what it's going to cost, and what
are you going to give up toget at Vlad Guerrero and hope that the
Vlad Guerrero you gets the yearly MVPVlad Guerrero. I think first base is
something you have to look at,but I think the way they're playing this
team may be more prime to justsay we'll deal with it. But as
(52:12):
Dana Brown said last week, Brian, he would love to have a nine
hundred oh ps guy. And there'sabout three of them out there, or
two of them in particular. Youjust played one this past weekend, Yep
and Pete Alonzo and now Vlad Guirro. I don't know how real it is.
I think most people still lean towardsmore arms, pitcher first, first
base, second, and then gofrom there. Yeah, at least I
think that's the uh, that's whatThat's what my naked eye tells me.
(52:35):
Yeah, they will. I thinkthey're going to make a move to try
to go get a first baseman.I'm not sure one player is going to
go well if you do. Ifyou're going to get a first baseman,
you're definitely going to get a pitcher, right, especially if you wonder about
if you're still if you're concerned aboutGarcia and mccullors, if you got if
you're saying, if they don't pitch, well we're screwed, and they may
and when they're coming back, andthe Verlander situation, you obviously have to
(52:58):
address it because you don't have afifth starter yet. And right now,
the way Farmers going up and down, I'm not sure you have your first
starter on a regular basis. Yeah, well there's another thing, yep,
So we got to always remember theup and down effective from er Valdez,
It's gets to the stake out nextright here on Sports Talk seven to eighty.

(55:08):
you know all right, Sean? What are you hearing out there now?
The Salisbury takeout sALS brief takeout onthe Seawan Salisbury Show. Time for the
stake out here on the show.Sean Brown and Tripoli right here on the
Shawn Salisbury Showlet's get right to it. Seven one seven ninety. Couple guys
(55:31):
want to get in and talk aboutKyle Tucker. Let's start with Al.
Al. Appreciate you, holding brother, what's on your mind about Tuck?
Good morning guys, Hey Brian, welcome back, and don't let him tell
you that runner up is not good. Just runner up in that tournament is
a real good thing. You did, good man. Appreciate it, Al,
thank you for that. I justwatched it. I was watching the
(55:55):
game yesterday and right at the endof the game, you know when they
can when they come around and dotheir little high five thing. On the
way back to the dugout, thecamera isolated on Tucker for just a moment,
and he turned to walk back tothe dugout, and there is still
a noticeable limp. I mean,it's not an I need a cane to
(56:15):
walk the limb, but it wasa noticeable limp which was walking away.
And I suspect that's why he's stillnot playing. But anyway, and I
don't know this Peter Alonzo thing.I watched him this week. That guy's
still got a lot of jakes left. He's a good ball player. Yeah,
(56:38):
I don't know. Yeah, andal I don't know if they're even
gonna when you think about the waythey've played, I don't know if they're
in a move Pete Alonso, yourbest player, move him now? How
they have been in a cell mob. But they've played pretty good baseball the
last fifteen or twenty games or so. So, man, that's going to
take a hall to get a guylike that who's still in his twenties,
(56:58):
you know what I mean? AllRight, right. Well, I'm not
concerned about the first base thing. And uh, once Tucker comes back,
uh and and then goes back toright field. Uh, Liars says,
more that shown than he's our centerfield and uh, uh you know,
(57:20):
I think it's time to we're gonnamove anybody I would move Liars. Uh,
local Feto has showed defensively. Uhhe's with this bat, he's you
know, he's done okay. Uh, he's been playing first base yesterday for
an inning and he looked real good. He feel with the ground ball.
He picked the ball out of thedirt. So uh, you know,
(57:42):
I'm not too concerned. I wantthe way we're playing right now. I
think we need to get our pitchingstraight out and their arms. But uh,
I'm just really excited with the waythey're they're playing. And I do
the league that the bear and theshoulder and uh, the Rangers there are
(58:05):
already five games behind us now,so UH is gonna be okay, guys,
y'all have a great four You guyshave a great fourth of July,
and talk to you. Thanks alyou too, Buddy, Thanks so much
for everything. And yes, thisis it's amazing how when people thought they
were gonna be okay, they're okay. Talent seems to always talent work hard.
(58:28):
Working hard is better than talent whentalent doesn't work hard. But when
talent does work and grind, andyou put both together, you're always gonna
be competitive. So apparently the window'snot closed. No, it's not there.
You go, John, thanks forholling. Good morning. Hey,
what's going on? Brian wilcome back? But you know what, your boss
came in from the dead. Guythat got a w fuzz. Every day
(58:49):
is good. Every day is good. Hey, Nkia. Uh. The
one thing I seen about the Astrothat I haven't seen, I've seen that
togetherness. I see them playing witheach other. Joe finally got his team.
This is Joe team. It's notDusty team out there. This is
Joe team. He got his teamtogether. I see that that togetherness.
I'm glad. Hey Singaton, Uh, Singatary Singaton on first base. Look
(59:14):
here, I'll give him some props. That boy can he can rake.
He just needs playing time. Heneed to play every day. Because when
you got Singaton and you got youdone, and when Tuck come back,
them three left handed monster power hitters, it's gonna open it up for everybody
else. And we know that Singleton, he get enough basking, enough Ruffians,
he could we know he could playfirst base. But if you get
(59:35):
enough Ruffian, I feel like hisback go on, come around. I
feel like the Astros right now,Fellas, the way they playing, I'm
gonna get you all opinion. Butthe way they playing, I feel like,
now we on the road, theway they came back two games and
won the game consistently, I mean, everybody's masking everybody. I see the
I see the Karate there. Isee the Togetherns now. I see the
same team there now the Dusty Hallwhen they went on that run and went
(01:00:00):
to the to the World Championship.I see him catching the leader. I
see them, and I see themgoing away from right up. Well,
I see you right now with allthe injuries and the way they playing and
rake it, I see them goumps in the west. I just want
to get that opinion on that.Hey, keep up a good wake,
(01:00:21):
Frelos. Thank you, John,Appreciate you, John. I I mean,
yeah, huh, John Singleton ak A singing, Yeah, I
love singing. I think this teamhas Uh, why are you tripping.
We're not calling him singing? No, I'm not okay. I saw Dan
(01:00:42):
Matthews of the A team tweet outsinging, you know what I'm saying.
I don't, I don't, Idon't play no singing, No Doobie.
No, Why don't they call SeanDuban? Why don't they call him Doobie?
Yeah? Hasn't he earned it justlike the other? Do be equal?
Dooby? Right? And then MauricioDubon, Yeah they call him doubIe.
Wy don't they called Duban Doobie? And yeah, I I uh,
(01:01:12):
I think this team all right? From a week ago when or two weeks
ago and Dana Brown said we're playoffteam. Yes, we may have to
do some things, you know,to be a World Series caliber team.
Have they changed your mind on thator do you still believe they're not a
World Series team today? Let's discussthat next. Is it that time?
Already? It is break? Okay? So and you're have you planned a
(01:01:34):
parade? Yeah? Have you startedthe parade? Or you sit on a
fence with that? Are you doyou have him in the playoffs? Let's
discuss that next. Okay, righthere? Change, Yeah, let's discuss
the next right here on The ShawnSalisbury Show. The Shawn Salisbury Show continued
taking your calls this morning on theHouston Astros. Let's go to Joe wants
(01:01:57):
to talk Kyle Tucker. What areyour thoughts on Tucker? Hey man,
how y'all do it? What wouldit hurt to put Kyle Tucker at first
base when it comes back? Andwe got a lot of outfielders where you
think about that? I get,I get the idea, but it's just
not gonna happen. Joe, he'stheir right fielder. It's always gonna be
(01:02:17):
him in right field and nobody elsebecause there was I don't know if you
remember last year a year prior, there was a center field issue. Jazz
wasn't really swinging it, neither wasJake Myers. So they even talked about
moving Kyle Tuck at the center andthat never happened. So it's just he's
gonna be in right There's just nochance he goes and goes to first Okay,
And what do y'all think? Whatdoes Sean think about paying to a
(01:02:40):
turn the ball over to He's gonnaget paid. I mean, we're now
to the point where forty five milliondollars for a starting quarterback who puts up
numbers. Uh is just it's almostlike, oh yeah, forty five million.
He's gonna get paid now. He'snot gonna go past know the contract
you saw for Trevor Lawrence or anyof that. But he's gonna make between
(01:03:04):
forty five and fifty million bucks,if not around fifty, for four or
five years. The key is whenyou pay somebody and all it takes is
a front officer, a coach tolove you. It doesn't take them all
to love you, it takes one. He's accurate when he throws on time,
he's really good. If he hasto hold the ball, his physical
limitations become a problem. But theylike to get the ball out quick.
And if you're gonna let somebody goand not pay him, you got to
(01:03:28):
say, okay, well what's thealternative? And right now too, as
a player, listen, we couldsay a lot of players are overpaid,
but Miami is gonna pay him,and he's gonna get paid a lot of
money. And he's a good player, he's just not a great one.
Yet here you man, I'm withyou. I appreciate it. Thanks,
And this isn't anything on Joe.Why is it that we want to take
(01:03:49):
a harder position to play right fieldand move him to first base, which
I don't want to say easy,No position's easy. But I would much
rather take a younger player and trainhim at first base than take a gold
Glove player type of player in rightfield and move him to Kyle Tucker unless
he's thirty four and thirty five yearsold at the end of his career and
(01:04:13):
just can't move anymore. But weneed his Bat's gonna DH before he'd play
first base, i'd think, Andif he plays first base, but I
mean, we got a lot.We got about eighteen bodies we're moving to
first base but one, And I'dget what Joe's saying, but Kyle Tucker's
too young in his career. That'susually reserved for Joe Mauer at thirty four
to move to first base in aHall of Fame career, because we just
got to have your bat, Idon't see it. I would rather go
(01:04:34):
find somebody or a young guy trainhim there. Kyle Tucker's an outfield in
the When Kyle Tucker switches positions, guess where he's going to The DH or
to center field if that's the case, or to the DH position before he
goes to first base later in hiscareer. You're not. I'm not taking
my right fielder and putting him atfirst base anytime soon. Yeah. Plus,
(01:04:57):
you got singing there. If youkeep everybody by their nickname John Singleton
aka Singy, he's playing first base. Why are you laughing when you say
that? Not that he's not laughingthat he plays first base. Why are
you stressing the nickname sing That mightbe the worst nickname of all the astros.
(01:05:19):
But why we've got, as themedia, we have got to stop
calling him singing. Why do wehave to give an nickname to every player
in the world. I'm with you, well why do we? I just
want to know why Sean Dubin's namenickname isn't doubIe, du bond and Dubin,
which one's closer to dob dub Right, So let me think about other
(01:05:41):
sports? Does uh? I mean, let's just let's use an individual sport,
like what what's Serena's nickname? Dowe ever call her s dub as
Willie? Yeah? No, wedon't s Dog. No, we don't
color woods woodsy. She's known asjust Serena. She's gotten to the point
where she's just the one name. When you say Serena, you don't need
(01:06:03):
anything Serena. Right. So,so when it comes to golf, do
we call I don't know, I'venever heard of golf anouncer say, oh,
man, chef's on fire today. No, you don't get a chef
on fire? See what I dothere? His name? Nickname? Enough
is Scottie? Okay, I'm waitingfor one of the guys saying, man,
what a putt by Scott Scheffler withoutthe why that formal? Maybe that's
(01:06:26):
reserved when he's on the Can westart calling Bryson D Shamba D Shamboski shambo
shambo shamby okay, d sham shamno sham see right, no shame right?
Sam? I never heard, Inever heard anybody call him bri Why
(01:06:47):
is it? Why? Why isit? No? There is the day
is the nickname stroudj Right? Sowhy is it that we feel like every
player that ever existed in baseball wehave to put a nick name on him?
I don't know, tell me againstthe first So what's the singletons again
singing, yeah, your boy Dan'sgonna fill it on Wednesday. I got
(01:07:11):
damn you. You have to youhave to I tweet it out. You
have to love and respect to ourguy, Dan Matthews. I love Dan.
He's probably gonna text us here.Remember when somebody like guy said,
when somebody give it, when Adrian'sgive me a hard time, You don't
give us somebody hard time? Youdon't love correct, don't do that?
Know who else calls him? Thatis? He is Daniel? Where Dan
get that from? Uh? Iknow Julian Morales on the broadcast has called
(01:07:31):
him singing before, but that's JulianMorales. I mean you can't say,
yeah, you can't, don't callhim singing. Okay, I love jul
Julia. Julia is awesome, fantastic, she is fantastic. Job, don't
call him? Okay, stop it, Cheffy, I got a chance to
win the British Show. But hopeChefy wins it. What do we call
(01:07:53):
Rory? Rory? He's we gotthe middle of rarely called him Mackailroy.
We call him r Mac. Haveyou see what I'm saying? Every player
in baseball seems to have to havea nickname, and I don't get it.
It's actually maddening to me. Justjust me. Yeah. It gets
to the point where that that ifif somebody over nicknames in a national broadcast,
I will mute their ass in twoseconds flat. Not so they care
(01:08:15):
if I do it, but itgets to the point where I'm I'm playing
where's Walda? With nicknames? Man? It's too much? Okay, yeah,
well they just call him JV.Because no, let's get to Phil
real quick for break, Phil, what's on your mind? Yo's nickname is
(01:08:44):
ass? The players far put itthis way, we're doing him a disservice
him singing. Okay, Dan Matthews. When Dan Matthews walks, I'm slapping
his ass upside his head. AndI love Dan. Don't do that,
Danny, Oh yeah, toss tossthat one out with Also, with all
the ideas that anyone can play firstbase, that's maddening, Thank you,
(01:09:08):
good night. Yeah, just putany of us over there, right,
because I don't need a skill set, right, Hunter Brown for four great
starts in a row, Let's stickhim at first base just to get him
in the lineup. You know,it's nonsense. We need it, We
need his bat. Phil. Youknow, I was so impressed with Dubin.
Uh you know that his his start, his bullpen day start was was
(01:09:31):
exceptional. I was just wondering ifwe run that back. I even think
with the with the lefty King,if if we run into a team with
you know, a top heavy leftylineup, maybe two of the first three
or three of the first six,you run King out there do the same
thing. Because the bullpen day wedon't do it often, but man,
it seemed to uh, it seemedto have uh you know, it worked
(01:09:54):
well, and it seems like something. Excuse me, guys, I am
out of breath. I just finisheda run. I'm listening on the morning
Mind. Dude, I understand thatrun to the mailbox is a bitch.
Man. I did it. It'sreally the track back I gotcha. Hey,
Phil, real quick, real quick? Hey, is everything good at
(01:10:14):
home? I know you were outof power for a long time and all
the damage to those big storms.Ya you guys all good now? Yeah?
We are, you know, everything'sback to normal. We're we're still
sort of dealing with limbs, youknow, trying to prepare for a hurricane
season, trying to get some stuffcut down. But I appreciate it.
Fellas. Yeah, yeah, we'reall good over here in truth. Do
you need some help with that orreyou good to go? No? No,
we're good. Just making sure wewere going to send Tripley out your
(01:10:38):
way. I appreciate it. I'mobsessed with that. I went out trimming,
trimming branch. I was just doingit because he's young and you know,
spry. I'd have to get I'dhave to get a ladder when the
branch was at four feet for him, though, I'm kidding, that's my
dog. That's good to hear.Phil. Appreciate you happy for Yeah,
(01:11:05):
you know what I mean. Butyeah, I forgot. I forgot your
one of the psycho that. I'mout my bastyards. I'm out my brat.
I'm on my backyard with my Ihave the you know, the trimmer.
If I bought one of those isI'm out there. I'm out there.
No, that's for the grass.I'm out there trimming trees. I'm
(01:11:28):
sometimes wondering what man I'm trying toI'm out there. I might have been
trimming trees. It didn't need Istarted about to jump over the Davis.
I got you. Where are theyfrom again? Your neighbors the one on
the other side. I got Londonon the I got there. I got
London and Ireland on one side, that's what I'm talking about. And I
got or Scotland and I got Igot uh uh Venezuela. On the other
(01:11:51):
side, I'm talking about the Yeah, dude, I got whatever. I
got myself, my neighborhood. Wecan play soccer, we can play football,
we can trim trees, right,we can party. I mean we
got to going on. And thosesevend ones that came and drink beer with
us on those oh yeah class collegefootball. Oh yeah, they're fun as
hell. They don't get cheated.Great people. Yeah, Stub Brown and
(01:12:11):
his people are awesome. Oh thereyou go. Love it. Nice little
shout out. All right, let'sget to break. We're gonna keep on
talking about these ashleys. We've gotto talk about frommer Valdez. What is
going on? That's next? Onsports Stock seven to eighty. Hey,
Sean Salisbury here for country boys.Roofing starts with a K and ends with
a Z, and you get athousand dollars discount if you mentioned my name.
Yep, that's a thousand dollars discount. When you mentioned Sean Salisbury going
(01:12:33):
there to Country Boy's Roofing, locallyowned and operated. No job is too
large or too small, and they'regonna help navigate your insurance claims as well.
Texas Windstorms certified, family owned andoperated. It's Countryboys Roofing LLC dot
com eight three two seven three onefifty six twenty Country Boys Roofing LLC dot
com. We're for the Sean SalisburyShow continued, Valdez pitched over the weekend,
(01:13:01):
Sean, oh Man, you knowwith this guy, I just it's
what are you gonna get? It'sit's like a box of chocolates. You
never know what you're gonna get?Are you the gumper? Yeah, that's
a Forrest Gump? Correct? Yeah. Yeah. So the Astros had to
rally from over They down six one, yep, six to one because Farmer
(01:13:26):
Valdez there was a play at theplate. He tried to make it.
He airmails it, slams his glovelike a twelve year old. Four and
two thirds innings, ten hits, six earned runs, three walks, five
k's, ninety five pitches and fourand two thirds. Here's the for me.
The extremes blatant. When does heever find middle ground. He can't
(01:13:50):
like it's in it's it's impossible forhim. He either shoots sixty two on
the golf course or or eighty. There's no in between at all. Ever,
I'm trying to find the the it'seither really good or just piss poor.
Yeah, it's And so when youthink about stuff like that, can
it It can't be the physical sidecan It's all mental? For me?
(01:14:12):
He is a did we tried?He's a mental little person. He's a
his emotions. What is it ifyou can't control your emotions? Your emotions
control you emotions? And I whenthey put it this way, he is
a great front runner. And whatI mean by not to distroy he's talented.
IM talk. When thanks come outand for two or three innings they
go good, expect seven innings ofstrong, solid ball. I don't know
(01:14:38):
if the metrics say that exactly, but from my vantage point, when there's
one big mistake, it's like thatguy who can't overcome a bad golf shot,
right or bad that all of asudden they go, hey, you're
playing if I dude, it's oneshot, so what so what imagine?
And I do a lot of golfbecause I think golfers have to that walk
to the ball that get into yourmiddle. It's kind of like a picture
(01:14:59):
right well out that they've sped upthe pitch clock. I get it,
but you can get into your ownhead. You hit a drive that goes
into the rough at the US Open, hit your next ball, you hit
it too far across the fairway landsand a bunker, and then you hit
a fifty five hit fifty five yardbunker, shot to six feet or should
I say three feet and make theputt to win it. In Fromber's game,
I'm not sure he'd have made it. Why he might have walked the
(01:15:23):
run in because I don't know ifthose two shots would have disrupted his flow.
Right, I don't mind emotion,I don't even mind if you're if
for the key is I don't evenmind if you drop an F bomb and
or pissed as could be and pullyour hat off. But the key is
how quickly can you get back tobeing you when you step on the mound,
right, Just lock back in,Hey, flush it out, drop
your F bomb or whatever, andget back on and go. And some
(01:15:45):
of us mere mortals may not beable to do that, he's so good
when his mind's right that at timesit feels like he's unhittable. But I
guarantee you that teams that are playinghim say, if you get it him
early and force trouble, his mindwill play tricks on him and he will
all of a sudden start to questionthings he doesn't need to. He's a
(01:16:06):
gifted guy. So what's gonna preventfromber from being great is not gonna be
the physical part of it. It'sgonna be And that's why for a guy
so good, he's just as extremelygood as he can be extremely bad,
and your your ace can't do that. There's got to find a way to
(01:16:28):
have that in between, to wherewhen things aren't going well, you can
just lock in mentally and say,you know, I'm gonna grind this out.
Is he capable of grinding out victorieswhen he's not going well? And
now they won this one because thebats came offense, right, So I
think that's the biggest question. Andyou know what, it's been the biggest
question for him for a couple threeor four Well, when he first started
out, that was a big problem. They seem to have got it under
(01:16:50):
control, but his emotions to mebecome his biggest roadblock. If you want
to know what the biggest problem forfromber Valdez is, it's not you,
it's not me, it's him,it's himself. That's exactly right. I
mean, my goodness, it wasone play and then after that he imploded.
Okay, so what you play thenext play? Right? So?
Am I counting on the fact thatwhen aw Tuove comes to the plate and
(01:17:12):
if he takes the golden you know, the golden sombrero and gets another at
bat, and there's a guy onthird with one out, you know what
I know is going to happen.I believe in my hardly that he's going
to get him cross, don't you? Yes, if that happens to Fromer
he walks three in a row orgoes through that and makes an air,
aren't you concerned that now might bea good time to get him out?
(01:17:35):
Now? To their credit, JoeSpotta, they let him grind through some
innings where he he is down sixto one, still pitching, and was
going through all this and the bats. Once again, what the Astros have
started to do, Brian is insteadof wait for somebody else to make a
play, you know what they've said, screw it, I'll go make one
happen, and this is who they'vebeen. Yeah, it's just it's it's
(01:17:57):
maddening because with Verlander out Frommer hasgot to be that guy and you can't
afford, especially down the stretch, for outings like this to happen. Didn't
you ask me who's the number one? Guys? And I said, if
I'm starting, was it you thatwe were talking about that? I said,
I'd still run him out there firstto start a world So you said,
who would be your number one?I mean, I remember we've had
discussions. Maybe it was early inthe week, Dan and I were talking
about last week, but when youwere coaching your team. But I still
(01:18:20):
say yes because he's the number one, and you know it's twofold. Brian
goes back real quick. One isif I didn't run him out there first
to start a playoffs heres, youknow what, I'd be concerned that I'd
lose him because he felt slighted.I don't, and that part of me
would feel that way. The otherside of it is you think, when
he's going good, he's just gotto be that guy, because well,
(01:18:41):
who is it? And in truth, right now. You know who the
decision would be. You know thedecision in my opinion, if you were
just going by performance, who you'dhave to run out there first, it'd
be six and one a half dozenthe other Hunter Brown and Renelle Blanco.
Yeah, that's the truth. Byperformance who you'd say, I got to
run out there. Now you've gotto come into the emotional side and experience
(01:19:01):
and all that stuff. But damn, you gotta have more of him consistently,
and they got to find some middleground with him, have to.
Yeah, just a middle ground wouldbe nice, I will tell I'll take
that over the inconsistency. It's it'seither ride and high like way way up
or just down down down he's pentousebrother, yeah, or the out house
(01:19:23):
or the outhouse. Yeah. Hesure is unbelievable. Man, It's just
it's it's it's maddening, Like,damn, dude, figure it out.
I'm gonna tell you one key reasonwhy the Astros won the series over the
weekend, and it's a reason you'renot thinking of. That's next on sports

They got good cinnamon ice cream.Yeah, stop into him. Look good.
(01:22:39):
There's a liquor store right there, really good liquor store. Going there
and get yours free pub. Yeah. Did I name the liquor store?
No, I said thin liquor storeshould just be called oh, liquor store.
They call them package stores up inthe north, package stores. Yeah.
Yeah, what a Banger's a bangerman? Yes, sucks. I
gotta say the astros cut when itcomes to these that you guys got good
(01:23:01):
worst of any city in the country. It might be. Don't match the
teams to success. This is terrible. Oh we'll say it louder so the
people that it is so the peoplein the northeast. This is just not
good at that's that little country thing. That's the one reason they won this
weekend, by the way. Sothat was it. That was it.
You just paid off the tea Idid. Were they playing that there?
(01:23:25):
And no, no, they don'tcall it Shae City bank Field City banks
Sha Stadium. Let's let's be realhere, thank you and good time.
Don't tell City Bank that they wantthat Cain. Flushing New York. Yep,
some call you flushing Flushing Meadows. Is that what it is? Flushing
New York? Yeah, there yougo. It's like when you put Yankee
Stadium. It's in the Bronx Dog. Yeah, that is the Bronx bombas
ye. Aaron Judge is on atorrid pace with home runs. He hit
(01:23:48):
number thirty one over the weekend. This dude's game is foolish. Okay,
do you think they're they're sending outthe Goldilocks balls again for him? No?
You don't. You know that wasa real thing, right, I'm
not beating on it. Can weplease give? Can we please give?
Can we not shine kiss performance?I'm not gonna shrink it. But I
also think that there's probably a coupleof Goldilocks balls, and there are we
(01:24:09):
giving the Astros pitching staff more spinrate opportunities with the way the laces are
with seans. Probably, No,I mean it's hard not to appreciate what
Aaron dude. He's gonna do itagain. Yeah, he's gonna hit sixty
plus again. Okay, regardless ofthe Altuve what he said about the MVP.
Huh is there anything about Aaron Judgeother than how good he is against
(01:24:30):
teams that you don't like the onlything I don't like is that he plays
for the Yankees, right and nothere? Yeah, agreed? What can
you say about the dude? Right? He's one of those a little tiff
with the Alo baby, but whohasn't right, So to me, it'd
be like it'd be hard in truth, aside from the buffoons out there that
don't get it. Who wouldn't likeJose Altuve r? You know, there's
certain guys on every team to say, how can you dislike that guy?
(01:24:53):
Right? Right? And when itcomes to Aaron Judge and really that hard
socks fan my whole life, II have zero issue. Matter of fact,
I like when they beat when theRed Sox beat him, and I
like watching Judge put out. Hecan hit three home runs a game if
he wants a long as they don'twin. And you know what he really
uh, he doesn't do much againstthe Astros either way. He's had his
(01:25:14):
struggles, just like Trout has inhis past. Right and with with with
Aaron Judge the truth of the matteris he's a good representative. He's not
a trash talker for the you know, he's not an over celebrated you know
what I mean. He just playsbaseball and seems like in truth, he
feels like you walk into a bar. And aside from who he is and
his imposing presence, I don't thinkAaron Judge wants to spend a whole lot
(01:25:35):
of time talking about him. Ilike guys like him. Yeah, he
doesn't really do a lot of talking. But the way, he's not much
of a self promoter. But Ican tell you this, there's nobody in
the world swinging the bat like heis right now. No, it's incredible.
Thirty one home runs. Yeah,it's an unbelievable watch. All right,
let's get out to the phone lineseven one three two one two five
seven ninety Sam. I see inour notes here he's talking about showing up
(01:25:58):
and showing out. And you,as a man that has spent so many
years in the Coast Guard, whatdo you know about showing up and showing
out? Well, first off,it wasn't the coast Guard, Oh my
bad, it was the army therein the Army, right, yes,
no, no, already our braveyvingMarine. Yet that's what army stands for,
(01:26:19):
the United States Marine Corps. Youbetter watch your mouth. I got
an eighty second airborne pops and youknow my dad Okay, okay, just
just just as bad as I do. We were talking before you came on
and say, man, you gotit with Brian says, let's introduce him
as yeah, coast guard guy.And then I said, Sam will make
sure boots are on the ground withhis Marines, and then you're gonna throw
(01:26:41):
astray at the army. Now now, now it's all fighting, all fighting
their brother. Okay, Sean, you know, you know, with all
due respect, you know how muchI love your pop. Yes, I
do, and I do. Iknew him, that's right. My grandfather
was sergeant first class in the Army. There you got marine father was in
the army. Yeah, we alsogot we got coast Guard represented, no
(01:27:02):
disrespect, man, We got Navyrepresented on this show, as we should
have no doubt about it. TheUnited States. He's why this July fourth,
we get a little independence, right, we get some freedom to do
a lot of the fun things wedo. Man. So there you go,
Sam, what's up? And I'mlooking forward to teeing it up on
the third with you, Sean,And that's that's kind of what I want
(01:27:25):
to talk about. You know,I'm gonna show up at the first tea.
I'm gonna have two balls off thetee and let's go. Well,
here's the over we grew up.Yeah, go ahead, go ahead,
go ahead. I'm gonna throw twonames at you. And you know these
names very well. And they playedbaseball and football with me, Robinvntura and
Eric Turner. You know, EricTurner died as a Raider at thirty one
years old. First round second pickRobin Vntura. We all know Robin.
(01:27:48):
Those guys showed up every day andthey didn't Yes, they needed a little
calis the next, little little bitof a warm up, but they didn't
need thirty minutes to get ready tostep up. Yeah, God bless Eric
Turner. What a great player hewas in school and tremendous athlete. Lost
his life way too young. Andthen you mentioned the other guy, Robin
Ventura, who is one of thegreat Well, it was one of the
(01:28:10):
great college. There's one of thepro hitters we've ever had. He's a
phenomenal player. I think he's.Is he coaching somewhere in minor league somewhere
where's Ventura apped? Right? Yes, yeah, I think he is.
And Sam, here's here's the differenceto a little levity to this. My
favorite marine is that you said you'regoing to show up and hit two balls
off the first tee. We'll seewhat we those of us in the industry
(01:28:30):
who step up to the first tebox from the back teas and hit one
ball off the first tee. Yeah, one way off the first team.
Apparently you need a second one offthe first t bitch. So you know
what, let me ask you thisthat the British Open is Scheffler hitting two
off the first t right, callthe breakfast ball, Sean the breakfast Well,
(01:28:51):
the people who really see the peoplethat you know come from an army
family. We're up a little earlier, warming up, so we don't have
to have a breakfast ball, andyou'll get your bloody Mary without vodka.
I'll take mine with it. Fairenough, here we go, Okay,
fair let's go. But you knowthe other thing is that we don't talk
about also is these teams. Man, you used to be a loner with
(01:29:13):
guys that would really hold you accountableto performing and stepping up. And if
you didn't, they were in youryou know what. You know what I'm
saying. And I just I don'tsee anybody getting anybody's ass anymore. Yeah,
well it's and and and I thinkthe time and a place. Some
need an arm around him, someneed a boot. And that we're in
and talking about from ber I thinkat times maybe a boot would would,
you know, because he's so good, But sometimes you just got to get
(01:29:35):
out of your way mentally, right, we know it? I mean,
and it is well, times havechanged, Sam, And if no adaption,
no adjust then you're in trouble. But these astros are a little more
impressive to think about how you weretalking about him two months ago. You
got to feel a lot better abouthim. You sent me one message when
al two ve let off of thehome run this weekend Altuve, so you
must be feeling pretty good about himright now. Well, yeah, I
(01:29:58):
mean I love him when athlete stepup, you know what I'm saying.
And and and they got they hadthey had. I mean, Sean,
you played every level man, andand and I got to tell you you
came off the sidelines, you know, and you were playing with a certain
linebacker or a certain defensive lineman, they would in your three and out,
they would be in your act.Yeah, I trust me. That happened
(01:30:19):
enough. So yeah, I ifI had a dime for every cuss word
that uh was exchanged and every andevery head butt I deserved, Sam,
we'd buy the golf course. We'regoing to play out on Wednesday, my
man, so I look forward toit. You're exactly right, and the
key is you can't be butt hurtover those things. It's never personal when
(01:30:40):
you do it, and you knowthe grind is the grind's important. Leadership
matters, my man. I'll talkto you after the show today. I
always appreciate you, brother, Thankyou appreciate you want to call him a
marine or if you use a marine, Sam? Oh, the whoa from
Calftown? Yeah, Calftown us Halftown. There you go. Yeah, there's
no uh no I fans or butts, you know what I mean. You
(01:31:01):
just got to show up, theshow out and it's always two off the
first tea box Sean. Everybody knowsthat. Well. I played yesterday and
my right to left draw of theland in the middle and gave me about
buck forty into the flag. Yeah, I don't want to brag. Was
first t first shot, not oneon the range. Now the second one
was a chili did, but who'scounting. Yeah, that's the first team
by If you get off the firstt you're like, okay, exactly,
(01:31:24):
let's rue. The rest is history. There you go. But now Sam
is a really good player. Heprobably doesn't need too off the first But
you're right, he who doesn't taketwo off the first probably plays four rounds
a week in a tournament. Yeah, exactly, Well that's not me.
I take two off the first teaevery time, or two off the second
t in third and fourth and youknow whatever, baby sitting in the fairway,
you count you micro manager. Evenit's not five degrees out. We
(01:31:45):
play lift clean in place where weplay right. All right, let's get
to break. Keep on talking aboutthese astros. Yanni or Diez had an
unbelievable June. Let's look at thosenumbers and we'll continue to take your calls
at seven one, three, two, one two, five, seven nine.

There's elite deals meaning pricing elite inventory. See when those two go together,
(01:32:33):
you got them. When I'm givingyou the deal, you know there's inventory.
They got it. Like, forinstance, the twenty twenty four customs
Silverado's four nine down four ninety ninea month, thirty nine month, least
ten k, ten thousand miles peryear. I got that twenty twenty four
Silverado. It's off the charts.See, so you got the inventory and
you got the deal. Right. What about sixteen five hundred off twenty twenty
(01:32:54):
three Silverado lts? You see whereI'm going here. And then the third
part of the elite over inventory andpricing and the deals is customer service.
I don't know about you, butI live a life that when I go
in, if customer service is offthe charts, sometimes like oh the deal,
ye expect the deal to be fair. But when you get all three
(01:33:15):
and then customer service is the topper, you'll stay there and you will be

It's the best in the business andthere's no question about it. Together

Sean Salisbury Show continues. Let's getto a couple of calls before we get
(01:34:01):
to Steve Sparks next segment. Inorder of longest wait, We'll start with
Holly, Holly, good morning, thank you for holding Good morning guys.
Call the mayor playing the parade,Holly, I'll be there, Come down,
Come down, I can and joiny'all. But I have a quick
comment about Frommer. Just by lookingat him and the way he goes about
(01:34:25):
his business, I think he sufferedfrom a little case of steva itis.
He thinks he's a little bit betterthan he is. He got butt hurt
last summer when Dusty didn't pick himto start the All Star Game. He
was really I think upset when wegot JB batt because when JV left for
the Meds, Bromber was past thetorch of the quote unquote as of the
(01:34:45):
staff. And when we got JVback that very night, the night he
threw his no hitter, almost approvea point about a month ago, when
he went rogue in that game andwent all hog wild on Jiner. He
has has a called him since, and so I just think that he's in
his head and they're letting him getaway with a little bit too much thing,
(01:35:09):
to too many things. And Idon't know why all of a sudden
he has he's like, you know, won't won't let Beez catch him.
That's just my point that I wantedto make an also to one more thing
about Tucker. Has he had anyother imaging besides the next ray? Have
we had to see t Have wehad m ryh You know, not all
fractures or hairline fractures show up onan X ray. But that's just the
(01:35:30):
two things I wanted to say aboutthem to you guys. Love you guys,
Love listen to you every morning, and I'll listen to your comments.
Thank you, Holly, Thanks Holly. Cessar Salazar was behind the plate the
other day for and you know what, Holly makes a great point, maybe
fromber who's shown flashes of being thatguy instead of just a guy when he
pitches like he did this past weekend, he's a guy. You can find
(01:35:54):
anybody to do that. And Ithink a lot of it is the mental
thing. And maybe he gets toa point where he does feel and it's
okay to be confident, but there'sa difference in confidence and also understanding whatever
your limitations are, and he maynot have many. But she makes a
good point that sometimes we can getcaught up with our success of thinking that
we're supposed to do everything perfect. No excellence is a pretty good thing he
(01:36:16):
just needs. I'd rather have consistencythan even close to perfect right now,
because it would get through. Sometimesyou're gonna have when you start twenty five
to thirty games, you're gonna havethat right, You're gonna have outings like
Renelle did the other night. Andthere's no question on the other side of
it. When it comes to KyleTucker Holly, I don't know this for
sure, but I can't fathom witha guy that you are right about all
(01:36:38):
that imaging. I can't fathom thatan X ray is all they did.
I can't fathom that. Yeah, but they didn't even do any imaging on
frombers. I don't know, Butis it. But if something's this long,
wouldn't you go back, like everymaybe two weeks and say, let's
reimage this to see make sure wedidn't miss anything. Because it is the
This is about as harsh a bonebruise as I can ever remember for a
(01:37:00):
baseball player, and maybe I've missedten of them. But and because it's
local, maybe it just feels likeit's more hyper sensitive. But it has
been a This is a This isabout as deep as it gets, and
that threshold of pain must be hardto put his front foot down where it's
off his left foot and his lefthand, or that's it to be able
to get the drive he wants. And obviously it's the when when he's throwing.
(01:37:23):
It would be the opposite where he'llbe pushing off that right leg,
which is his front foot when hebats. So I don't know. Maybe
he just can't apply the strength thathe wants to. But had to be
a hairline fracture, there's no wayaround It's my opinion. That's my opinion.
I remember the first week when theykept saying bone bruise. I had
a hard time. And I'm nodoctor. I've just I've been to plenty
of them with my injuries. Ihave a hard time soaking in that you
(01:37:47):
could actually miss six weeks from abone bruise. But I've heard people say,
yeah, they've had one and itlasted a long time, and maybe
we just want him back so muchwe can't understand it. But if there
is no bone damage, this isabout batter bone bruises you'll ever see.
Yeah, it has to be somekind of fracture, yep, and we're
just not hearing about it. Let'sget one more call before we welcome in
Steve Sparks, Biscuit, thanks forall. Good morning. Hey, it
(01:38:10):
was happening to my brothers. Hey, Seanna, I just wanted to call
him man and keeps saying what I'vebeen saying, Man is one hundred and
sixty two. Man. It lookedlike to look like to manage it,
and stated the ship man. Andthere was a lot of people wanted to
run him out. And you know, it's a going curve, you know,
and and I even think with Diasit was a growing curve. He
(01:38:31):
started off. You know, youknow, it's one thing to catch here
and there, but it's a wholeanother ball game to catch on an everyday
basis, and and and and alsobe able to hit. He's started,
he's starting to like like like hebelongs as a pro on it every day.
I mean, he's we always knewhe could hit, but you also
got to I don't want to say, you know, you got to pace
yourself. That sounds average, butyou do have to learn how to do
(01:38:56):
it every day, right, Youknow what I'm saying, Biscuits, You
got to learn how to prepare forevery game. Your preparation the night before
and then the morning of and withJoe Aspata, how many rookies in sports
do we quit on eighty games intotheir career? We don't. And with
Joe's spot it's the same way becausethere's regardless of what they say about a
learning curve, you're making different decisionsthan you were as an assistant. That's
(01:39:16):
a great point. Yeah, Andmy last thing, Sean is I know
you probably didn't see yesterday, butsee thee man. She's starting to show
us, well, you know thatlearning curve. She starting to disappear too
then, and we watch out forthe fiend man. She's going to be
filthy when she finally figures it allout. And well, we know how
good she is, but she willbiscuit. Do you believe she's going to
(01:39:41):
match her college game to the progame. But at some point Will should
be just Will should be just asgood and keep everybody's interest in and continue
to expand this great interest that thecountry seems to have in her game and
in the w NBA. Now,without a doubt in my opinions, because
she got that work at and she'sshe's probably harder on the sale than anybody
else is. So you know, without a doubt, I think she wants
(01:40:05):
to be great. I think shewants to be great, don't you.
I think she wants to be great. Yeah, it's a great point by
that Mama mentality. We've been talkingabout it at Mamba Mentality. Yeah,
she's got it. They need tostart. I don't know if they have
a shoe named after it yet.I know she has a deal. But
whatever it is, name the basicWhite Girl two point zero. There ain't
nothing basic about that white girl's game. I got news for you. Okay,
(01:40:27):
that's for sure, Biscuit. Weappreciated brother. All right, let's
get to breakcause we've got to welcomein Astros broadcaster for Steve Sparks of the
show. Next in Sports Talk sevento eighty. Sort of pro painters guys,
sort up pro painters that sort ofwith the Sea. Each sort of
pro painters business is independently owned andoperated and sort of pro painters. It's
happy painting in the schedule. Youneed to schedule that free estimate at surtapro
(01:40:49):

estimate. They've come into my homeinterior EXTERI and changed it and made it
phenomenal and when my friends and neighborsee it and they want to know how
that happened, Sean, did youdo this? I'd love to take credit
for it, but I can't.My credit is I was smarter and I
went and got sort of pro todo it. They did it with class,
they did it with urgency, theydid it with efficiency. It was
(01:41:12):
timely, and they're local, andI like dealing with local businesses because I
feel like that they care about youand you're not just a number. It's
sort of pro painters. They're theofficial painting partner of the Houston Astros,
and I've had nothing but phenomenal dealingswith Dale and the great people. That's
sort of pro painters. So ifyou want it done right, even you
di I wires that love to doit, I get it. But if
you want it done right and doneon time and done the right way,
(01:41:34):
it's sort of pro painters. Andinvite your friends over Interior Extra, have
them take a look, and Iguarantee you they'll leave and say, hmmm,
I need some assert of pro inmy life. It's expensive to own
a business, it's expensive down ahome, so protect it with quality painting
from sort of pro painters again sortof with a ce schedule that free estimate
online at certapro dot com. Onceagain the official painting partner of the Houston
(01:41:56):
Astros, so they also know howto win sort of pro painters. That's
happy Painting, and the Sewn SalisburyShow continued. It's always great to have
Steve with us on this road tripand they're in Toronto for the day game
today in a four game series. It's now at three and a half.
As was broadcaster Steve Sparks for hisweekly Monday visit, Steve, welcome in
(01:42:20):
ten days ago, this team wasten games out. You talked about get
to five hundred. We've had thisconversation. We blink, and it didn't
seem like a blink, but weblink. They're three and a half out,
playing really good baseball and overcoming stuffthat may happen a bad fromber performance,
and they find a way to godo stuff they weren't doing at the
(01:42:41):
beginning of the season. Who isthis team, Steve? I think they're
more like this team and this isthe office that we imagine the first months
of the season when they got offto a poor start. But they're playing
as well as anybody this last month. They're seventeen and eight, and I
think, you know, you're startingto see some guys emerge as bona fide,
(01:43:06):
really top end pitchers right now, with Hunter Spitzer, Ari Gatty Flashes,
Taylor Scott what he's been able todo this year in era below one
and a half. But I toldyou early on, and I feel still
feel like this offense is one ofthe best in baseball, and they're starting
to show it. And there's acouple of guys still aren't swinging the bats
(01:43:29):
like we know they're capable, andguys, there's gonna be ebbs and flows.
But I feel really good about thisteam, especially when Tucker gets back
that this is gonna be one ofthe toughest offenses to handle when you go
into any series. Now, wouldI would rather have good pitching the good
hitting. Yeah, but right nowthis is what the Astros are done with.
(01:43:50):
Steve, do you think this isa good pitching team. They're pitching
great. I'll say that it's right, So you hold your breath a lot.
There's just not a lot below thatyou feel great about coming up.
I mean, it's the biggest reasonwhy they had a bullpen game yesterday.
(01:44:11):
I think Sean Duban probably puts hisname in the in the in the ring.
As far as being maybe another starter, you know, if they keep
stretching him out a little bit,he's certainly interesting. But depth wise,
can they take another hit as faras an injury, then it doesn't look
like it right now. So theygot to keep them healthy. So that's
(01:44:31):
that's the manage the workload, whateveryou want to do, they got to
be pretty careful. Steve Sparks forhis weekly visit here Astros broadcaster on Sports
Talk seven ninety well, I askedwho the Astros were, Steve, who's
from bra Valdez. Well, he'ssomebody you can match up against and he
(01:44:53):
can dominate any lineup. That that'swho he can be. Who he is
on any given day. You justnever really know is he gonna is he
gonna overthrow or is he gonna staywithin himself and be the ground ball machine
that we've seen And that's what you'rehoping you can get out of him.
You know. You know, withfree agency and all those things, it
(01:45:15):
tends to make guys push a littlefurther and try to do a little too
much, and you start to lookat your numbers as a whole. In
the man, my strikeout numbers area little lower than years past. I
better start ramping it up to givemyself the best chance to get a big
contract. And you start to dothings a little weird. So if they
(01:45:36):
can kind of just manage that stuff, you know, thank goodness. I
mean it's not injury related or anythingphysical. You can tell that because he's
got such a great arm and greatstuff. So just to manage his emotions
and things of that nature. Onething that I saw in this last week
in particular, I'm starting to seeBregman and Altuve go to the mountain more,
(01:46:00):
you know, and initiate visits andtake a leadership role to try to
keep guys on the right track, especially knowing that you got some young guys,
You got some guys that get emotionallike Fromber that they might need an
extra touch Steve. If Fromber evergets to the point where he can manage
his emotions to the point of okay, we're all listen. I don't mind
(01:46:24):
a guy getting pissed off, butto be able to kick back in immediately
and compartmentalize right back to being thepicture that he is if he can,
ever, let's say, get withinten percent of his physical talent. Now
what kind of picture we looking at. Well, we saw a couple of
years ago before the pitchclock, andI'm not blaming the pitchclock. I love
(01:46:44):
the pitch clock, right, buthe had a routine where he would step
off with when he felt things goinghaywire, where he would look up,
you know, maybe at the foulpole and just kind of reset and reboot.
And it took about twenty seconds oror whatever it did to kind of
reboot and reset, take some breaths, and go back and start from square
(01:47:06):
one again. So he's not ableto do that anymore. And I think
he's gotten rushed in that process,so it's a little harder for him to
reboot. Steve Sparks Astros Broadcaster Weeklyvisit four game series in Toronto three and
a half out now and have reachedwhat they said. I mean, Dana
Brown wanted them within five games bythe end of July ahead of that,
and this team has got to theirfive hundred stage. So Steve, let
(01:47:30):
me ask it. I know thisis an unfair question and there's probably not
one answer, but if you werepointing to trying to explain to somebody who
hadn't watched Astro's baseball, and theysaid, give me a name of why
the turnaround? Who are the leaddog in the turnaround? Who is it?
Well, that's an unfair question. It is, of course it is.
But you know what, you're sobrilliant. I can ask you one
fair questions. And I know theremay be ten of them, but you
(01:47:55):
see it all is there, youknow one where it's like, all of
a sudden, you just hit youquick. Oh yep, that's the reason.
Maybe five of them, and itis unfair, but maybe one that
just sticks out that that there's beenan integral part of this turnaround for this
team. I'll say Hunter Brown, and I know he doesn't play every day,
but he's got a great chance towin the American League Pitcher of the
Month. He was a perfect fourto zero and Era and Bob Gibson territory.
(01:48:19):
You know, so his turnaround hasbeen huge for the Astros. I
mean, with Verlander down and someguys scuttling a little bit, you just
I thought I thought Hunter may havebeen on the verge of getting sit down
at one point, and to seewhat he's been able to do in his
last six or seven starts has beenremarkable. I really applaud his tenacity,
(01:48:45):
and I love his demeanor and allthat stuff. He pitches a little angry.
Everything about him and the way he'sgoing about it right now suggests that
he's very confident. With that twoseam fastball going in on right handers.
He keeps them on us now andhe shatters backs. So Eric Gatty's picked
(01:49:06):
up what Hunter's doing. He's startingto throw a two seamer now his last
couple of starts, and Eric Gattyhad no walks, ten strikeouts in his
last start, So you're starting tosee a couple of these young guys really
emerge. So my answer is HunterBrown, you know, but there's a
lot of guys. I mean,Jordan was great this month, Yiner.
A lot of these guys really pickedup the slack, yes, and it
(01:49:28):
was so impressive to see him getthose ten strikeouts. Araghetty with that no
walks, which has been a problemfor this team for walks at times this
year, and they look like they'restarting to get it at least a lot
of times under control. You know, Steve, what's crazy about this Hunter
Brown stuff? Considering where it started, where it is, and his grind
to get better, and no disrespectto Renelle Blanco or Hurt Verlander, but
in truth, you look at it, and I know experience comes into play
(01:49:51):
with this, but he's pitching wellenough now you'd have to feel comfortable running
him out as a lead guy.If he had to get the start because
of timing in an opening series, you'd feel pretty comfortable he'd get through it
and and quite frankly, make dominateyou if he's got it right. Yeah,
I think he's got everything it takesto be uh a top of the
(01:50:13):
rotation picture when you look at what'sinside and you can just tell that there's
a there's a really big heart.I probably said this on the on this
show before, but Dusty Baker talkedabout going fishing with him a few times
and learning some things and really gettingto know him, and he came away
just as impressed as we are.But one thing he learned about him is
that he has three older sisters.I said, what does that mean?
(01:50:36):
What does that tell you as acoach? He said, well, that
means he didn't do anything for himself. And I got to kick him in
the rear every once in a while, I thought that was pretty good.
But I mean, he's a he'sa self motivator though. Man, he's
a tough kid. So you know, you get somebody from the heart of
Detroit. I don't think you haveto worry about what kind of what kind
(01:50:58):
of guts are going to give youon a day to day for Forman Steve.
They look like a playoff team tome the way there we know playoff
talent. That was a no brainerwhen the season started. But looked like
they're playing like a playoff team andhave really picked this thing up. And
you said June had to be amoving month and it has been. So
let me push this a little forward. Do they have to make a pitching
move for them to be a WorldSeries team? I told you this,
(01:51:23):
man, you don't have to doanything if you feel like you have to
do something desperate, right, Butbut but to give you to give you
a better feeling about it, becauseyou're worried about the depth of it and
it's a little thin, is itwould be a smarter move to go get
another arm if it makes your teambetter. It certainly is, you know.
(01:51:44):
And if you don't feel like youhave internal options. It certainly is
the trading the future for a bigname because you feel like you have to
right Uh. I think you've gotto be pretty careful just because of the
state that the Astros minor leagues arein right now. You to think of
You've got to think about next yearat the same time you're doing this,
And I understand that you may notget any more shots, you know,
(01:52:06):
and you want to take all theshots you can while while that window is
open. But I think they've gotan opportunity to keep the window open for
quite a while, so they've gota lot of talent, uh that I
would just I would just be careful, especially in the pitching front. And
I think the Astros need pitching morethan anything else, just because it's thin
and you're getting later into the seasonand some of these guys like Blanco and
(01:52:29):
Brown and Arraghetti are gonna need ablow. They're gonna need a rest,
maybe a skip start or two,you know, down the roads, and
maybe a six man rotation to givethem some rest. But I would be
careful, you know, to feellike you have to make a big splash,
because I don't think they have to. I think they're really good I
think they would scare anybody going intoa playoff series. And you just have
(01:52:54):
to you know, you talked aboutfront of Valdez a little earlier. Coach
them up, man, get them, you know, and and help him,
help him to get over whatever hurdlethere might be mentally, you know,
in a season where he's healthy, you can tell he's so in ninety
seven ninety eight miles per hour.Uh, just get him over the hump,
talk to him and help him getto what we know he can do.
(01:53:18):
Like he'll go and run three orfour starts, but it's like what
we saw in that last start thatleaves you a little perplexed and wondering what
could have been. No question aboutSteve all End with this one, and
we appreciate you. I know, got a day game today in Toronto on
Canadian or Canada Day. Uh whatis is? Do do you think there's
a chance that they're in play foran everyday player at the trade deadline?
(01:53:43):
Yeah, I think there's a chance. I think anything is open for business.
I think they're gonna look and tryanything. I would probably like if
I was the guest, I wouldsay it's not going to be a huge
name you know, but I wouldsay on either front. But one thing
I think that they need more thananything is I think they need some pitching
(01:54:06):
depth. I think they need someinsurance, whether it's another starter or a
couple couple of relievers. You getLouis Garcia maybe back in a few weeks.
It sounds like he's doing great. His next rehab starts going to be
in Corpus Christie. That's a greatsign. I know mccouler's isn't too far
behind that. And you're starting tosee some guys back. You guys aren't
(01:54:30):
talking about ten Murphy at all,are you? No? Well, I
mean we've mentioned his name, butwe have gotten gone into no depth talking
about him. Steve so he's beenaround and from what I understand, Uh,
they're gonna be able to get tenMurphy, who's a legitimate relief pitcher
who's gonna get some big outs forthe Astros the last month and a half
of the season. My eyes, that's that's my prediction. So, uh,
(01:54:54):
they've got they've got something. KendallGregman has a shot to help him
at the very end. He's aheadof schedule and his rehab stuff, So
you know, there's some other thingskind of going on that leeds you to
believe bur Later, of course,he's playing catchup. Believe again. I
think I heard that yesterday. Soyou know, just hold on for dear
(01:55:16):
life going into the All Star breakand figure out a way to massage these
young pitchers who were pitching so wellto get him to the Fennis line.
Yeah, good names to look forwardto. And Steve real quick, I
lied, I had one more quickone and about thirty seconds. Let you
go. Is there a chance wewon't see Kyle Tucker before the All Star
Break? I think there's a chance. Yeah, yeah, you know,
(01:55:42):
he hasn't He hasn't gone out torun or anything like that. But I
think he's doing some stuff as faras swinging the bats and and things of
that nature. But it's just takingtime, you know, And I know
it's frustrating for him. I sawhim in the lobby when we got to
the hotel late last night. Ididn't, you know, I'm sure everybody's
asking him, so you know, you don't want to pile on there,
(01:56:04):
but I know it's eating at himto get back in there to help the
team. But hey, hats offto the team. Fifteen and seven since
he's been gone, and he wastheir best player the first two months of
the season. So whatever they hadto do to pick up the slack,
they got it done and had thebest month of any other team in the
(01:56:24):
month of June, even without KyleTucker only playing two games at the beginning
of the month. Well, it'sjust phenomenal. It's been a hell of
a run, a hell of amonth. Keep it going and then get
a little rest at the All Starbreak and let's roll the second half.
Steve, great stuff, Enjoy Torontoand the rest of this road trip.
We look forward to next Monday.Brother, Thank you, Thanks Sean,
I appreciate you too. That's greatSteve Sparks come back and visit. Gave
(01:56:45):
you names to look forward to,and you know he can be validated Frommer's
ramping it up. It's just tosettle in mentally Sports Talk seven ninety.
Let's go. This is this SeanSalisbury show stuff great stuff, And that'd
be a bummer to have Kyle Tuckerout through that. I'm still bone bruised,
(01:57:08):
man, that's dam But the waythey're playing without him, and Steve's
right about the depth of and hematches what Dana Brown said that the both
the names that were mentioned as thepossible fifth starter that has earned some time
there. Duban was the name broughtup by both. It feels like he
will be the fifth starter for atleast for the minute. Yeah, and
(01:57:31):
he looked good the other night.Did you count? Did you count on
him and training camp? No?Spring training? Sure didn't know count overnew
Blanco I'm talking about to be thisguy. No, I thought he may
make a case to be the fifthstarter there, especially when I saw JP
France had a set back in springtraining. Right, So, but you
you had no idea? No?I mean I'm talking about all of us,
(01:57:54):
did you? I mean we heardabout low perfeto, but you've come
in and it right in? Right? Did you expect? Jake Myers?
Truth? How many of us wantedhim? Just thought he was gonna start
opening day? Jake Myers, Well, I mean from everything we're told,
we're gonna give me every chance tobe the job. But how many?
(01:58:15):
Should I say how many wanted himto start opening day? I did not?
Most were chasm I did not.Dubon has just been Dubon And when
when you lost that middle relief,Hector Nearris, film Aton, what's the
other name? Stanic? And didyou think, oh, we're fine?
(01:58:39):
No? I thought it was atravel not a travesty. I thought it
was agregious that they didn't go andget it. Well, you thought they
got worse I did. Did youexpect, like you said, was it
Taylor and Martinezrtine to do the thingsthey've done? Think about all this and
not once if I mentioned a star'sname and all that, Well, I
just think about just a month agohow we felt about this team. That's
(01:59:01):
crazy. And you know what, that's why those that are in the building
that have their that are a littlecloser to the action than we are see
things that we don't. So doesSteve Sparks. So is Dana Brown.
And we all have our opinion andall that. We love baseball, and
we got great fans who are diehardbaseball fans that watch it closely. But
sometimes it looks a little different thanyou want it to and sometimes a lot
(01:59:25):
different. And it looked a lotdifferent. But you cannot hide talent.
You know what they say about ohbringing sexy back, it's the same with
this. If you're sexy, guesswhat it never does leaves, thank you.
With talent. Guess what, itnever does. If you got the
guys there, that talent doesn't leaveunless you let it out the building,
right, And it was in thebuilding. So it's kind of like we
(01:59:46):
know here, sexy doesn't leave thisit stays around all day, I mean
every anywhere. Same thing with theirI mean, you just know eventually it's
just going to take over. Yeah, I mean the sexiness, not the
talbot, but the talent. Theteam was. It was it's just way
too in your face not to somehowperform. And here we knew that the
(02:00:06):
offense would hold you over for awhile, and it showed against the Mets,
especially with fromber Valdez's meltdown. Thenyou saw them capitalize on some things
last night and the runners in scoringposition has gotten a bit better over this
stretch, and they'll continue to haveto do that because as of right now,
pitching wise, they don't have afifth starter. And didn't we also
(02:00:28):
say that the first six weeks ofthe season, this team needs scored about
five or six runs. Well, then they went through it and they needed
to pick that up. And herewe are, you know, they're they're
winning and they're not just winning oneway. They're winning a bunch of different
ways. And it may not bethe prettiest that you like, but they're
winning a bunch of different ways.So this team has used names that you
didn't expect have come through and becomehousehold names here in this city, even
(02:00:54):
if not nationally, that have contributedand usually on good teams. Somewhere along
the line during a season. Youhave to have those guys. I'm just
telling you. They're not the stars, but they do make up a lot
of the heart and soul of yourteam, whether it's the NBA hockey baseball,
or your your NFL team, hell, your Ryder cupany needs that guy
(02:01:15):
to go three to zero to onewhen you didn't expect him to. And
this team's found it. But there'sstill a long way to go. And
you got to hope that there's noother injuries with pitching staff because they are
depleted. Houston went seventeen and eightin June. That was the best record
in Major League Baseball. They wonnine out of their last ten. Let's
switch gears a little bit as weget into the nine o'clock hour, we're
gonna talk college football. It's alreadyJuly. Today, today, being first
(02:01:36):
of July, the SEC officially welcomesthe University of Texas and OU and there's
already talk about the best quarterback inthat conference coming from Paul Finebaum. Who
is it? We'll discuss next inSports Stock seven ninety KD Houston KTDCHD two
Houston, my hard radio station, the exclusive audio home of NBC's cover and
(02:01:58):
show, the twenty twenty four Parisol. How about the masts Brocket. This
is forth Talk seven ninety your homefor your home teams, driven by that
classic elite to Viewick GMC Studios forthe elite car buying experience. Salsbury Okay,
(02:02:24):
let's do this. Sean Salisbury tousc Truth, longtime friend, Shawn
Salisbury, Ryan Lima, go Lobos. This is the Sean Salisbury Show.
They also the seventy six ers alsosigned Tyrese Maxie to a super max contract.
They've dished out almost half a billionto two players, Maxie and Paul
(02:02:48):
George Maxi is actually his last name'snot Max, It's Max. You know.
Yeah, we're not giving him anickname. Tyres Maxy and good player.
But that's a half a billion totwo PLA and by the way,
tomorrow nine o'clock. Jim Turner, former offensive line coach at A and m
Miami Dolphins, been around the leaguea long time, good old tough,
(02:03:09):
Boston, hard nosed offensive line coach. He's got football camps and he's one
of the best offensive line teachers I'veever been around. Worked at camps with
JT and I have been worked allAmerican games with him for high school players,
and he teaches it. He's goingto join us tomorrow. We're gonna
talk about his camps, but we'realso going to get into the Texans and
(02:03:30):
offensive line play and when you're scoutingoff and we talk about how important it
is offensive line play, how importantbeing nasty is and technique, and he
teaches it all and what it takes. He's the type of guy Brian you
want every week on because he issuch a good student but a great teacher
of the game. So Jim Turnerand you offensive lineman, your few parents
are out there, we think aboutskilled position. Have you got a big
(02:03:53):
fellow? Get to his camp inCollege station. It will announce the dates
and we'll talk about it. Heteaches them, and this dude gets after
one of the I think one ofthe best offensive line teachers in the country.
And if you like nasty, Jimwill put his hand in the dirt
and go and military old you know, a military guy and a great teacher
that will not stand for your offensivelineman not making it a top priority to
(02:04:16):
protect his come hell or eye water, you keep your quarterback up right.
When Coach Turner's coach, and ifI was a head coach, he'd be
interviewed in two seconds flat. He'sreally good. He'll join us tomorrow nine
o'clock. You like a little motivation, Jim Turner will give it to you.
Also some little housekeeping notes. Youknow. Obviously gets Canada Day,
right, It's a Canadian daya today, right. It's also Happy Bobby
(02:04:42):
Bonia Day for those that celebrate. He gets paid his massive one, you
know, once a year payments.I believe it goes on till I'm kidding.
Yeah. Also, he's not theonly one getting paid to not play
baseball for that team anymore. TheNationals pay fifteen million dollars to Max Surezer.
Kane Griffy Junior gets his last paymentof three point five nine million dollars
(02:05:02):
from the Reds and Manny Ramirez getsone point nine six million dollars from the
Boston Red Sox and back to Benia. To my guy Dennis Gilbert, who's
been a long time. He's oneof those guys. You he's sitting right
behind home plate in the first rowof Dodger games when you see it,
the curly hair go go. Gilbertknown him since I was in college,
and congratulated him because he negotiated thatdeal and one of the great humans.
(02:05:26):
But today's probably another day where they'lltoast and say, you know what,
congrats to Bobby, and congrats toDennis Gilbert have got it done for him.
A dear friend and a guy who'sbeen phenomenal throughout his career. In
a baseball loving fanatic loves it.Bobby Bonia gets a check every July first,
all the way through the year twentythirty five. He gets one point
one nine million dollars and change.Gotta feed your family, right, no
(02:05:51):
expensive these days, man, Andthis may be the truest year ever where
we say gotta feed your family.Yes, and it actually comes to fruition.
Read so habby Bobby Bonia day allright, the SEC officially welcomes the
University of Texas and oh U,University of Texas had a nice little party
over on their campus over on theforty Acres yesterday. Our own Chris Gordy
(02:06:13):
was over there. He got touh see that event. Jim Schlosnagel,
the new head coach of the Universityof Texas men's baseball program, spoke to
the media. Lauren, Oh mygosh, NotI no, no, no,
no, the one that Laura rutlidexcuse me, not Laura and Laura
Rutledge was out there with Paul Finebaum. So they talked about, uh,
(02:06:33):
the University of Texas football program. Here what fine Bob said, Fine,
fine bomb, fine bomb. Yeah, you talking about on the quarterback situation.
It's exactly what we're about to play. Simpodico. Man, you know,
yeah right here, don't just don'tstop doing that. Why you weren't
a Quals hat dude, Cardinals?Cause I like baseball and I like Saint
Louis baseball. You know what,I'm not the You can have different hats.
(02:06:56):
No you can't. Yeah, I'ma hell it's no only I'm allowed
to. I'm allowed to have hatsbecause I like hats. I mean I'm
a diehard Raider fan. But I'ma diehard Raider fan, but I can
have a Charger cap I played there. I'm the only No. One cap
I do not have here. SoI've told you this UCLA, that's make
it too. On the amateur side, well, it's not true. We
(02:07:18):
don't have as anymore. So bothpros. I don't have a UCLA hat,
and I don't have a Yankee hat, and doesn't every swinging unit on
the planet. I have a Yankeehat from the day when they want to
dress it up, you know, you see in social Yankee It's like that's
the go to. I don't haveother than that. When it comes to
hockey or football. I just likehat. You know, I'm a hat
(02:07:40):
guy, So yeah, I canwear an SC hat and then all of
a sudden when they're not playing becauseI like the Tennessee burnt or I mean
the Tennessee orange hat. I couldwear U T hat for you Tennessee hat
for you being a USC alum.Yeah, I've only seen you wear one
piece of USC merchant. It waslike a hoodie during football sauce and you
won't see much. It's like it'slike I don't need I'm not a big
(02:08:01):
cell on weekends they're playing. Kindof mind, may wear a shirt or
hat for good luck, but allthat that stort of it's almost like I
ballhogged that, right, break itout for special occasions. But I'm Cardinal
Hack because you know, to ShannonFame, I I got Whenever I got
a relationship with somebody there that meanssomething to me, a friend, then
I'll wear that hat. And sometimesyou just see to get it. Like
you went to the live tournament. You like a lot of PGA tour stuff.
(02:08:22):
Tell me that hot you got?Which one you like? Oh the
smash one off the charts? Ohyeah, wordless? Sweet there you go.
And I wear my live hood likethree times a week, right,
And that's what I'm saying. Sothank you, Cardinal h Yeah my pleasure
man. Oh it doesn't matter there. Thank you for going and carrying man.
So yeah, I like uh,Plus, I have a lot of
respect for Saint Louis p. I'mjust a little disappointed you didn't wear your
Astros replic coaver ring this morning. You usually have it around your necklace,
(02:08:45):
and you know, forgot to wearit. Was doing some other things.
Just want I forgot to wear it. Yeah, you know, I couldn't
find the chain that it goes on. I took it off, set it
down. Keilo might have got it. He might, he might, so
he might poop it out today hemight be wearing all right, let's hear
your from Paul fine bomb. Hespoke about the quarterback situation for the University
of Texas as they get ready fortheir first season in the SEC. This
(02:09:07):
south sounded We've had the tiptoe aroundit, but not tiptoeing anymore. I
mean, we're downright celebrating or not. I have no intentions to tiptoe Paul.
Who will be the starting quarterback forTexas at the end of this upcoming
season. That will be arch Manning. I don't need the tiptoe around that.
That is guaranteed. You've heard it, and we may even see him
(02:09:28):
a little bit throughout the season. And so ah man, that's Tyler Feldman
who asked that question. He worksfor k v u E News over there
in Austin, Texas. Why uhwhat? He arch Manny is going to
be the starter over Quinn yours atthe end of the season. By the
(02:09:50):
end of the sea, you realizethat now find bomb will throw it out
there and he's mister sec right right, started to think, does fine moomb
have some inside information? He said, it's a guaranteed. I know.
Now, I want you to thinkabout this for a second. The guy
who could be the first pick ofthis draft if he plays great, is
(02:10:11):
Quinn Yours, big arm. Youknow who NFL people trust coaching their quarter
The people hold Steve Sarkisian in highregard. They got to the final four
last year. This team's really good. They have bigger expectations even this year.
I would expect Quinn Yours to beeven better. He's got everything you
(02:10:31):
want in an NFL quarterback. Right, big body can rip it. You
know I gave you and I'll bringit back in from a coordinator that's been
a coordinator for a long time incollege football, who gave a scouting report
going into the Final four last yearwith him and Penix and the four quarterbacks
in the final four over what thestrengths and weaknesses were. But think about
(02:10:52):
that. You got a guy whocould possibly be, if not the first
pick. If Quinn Ears plays reallygood football this year, he'll he'll be
a top five pick and we're alreadytalking about Paul Fine baumb guaranteeing that arch
Manning is the quarterback by the endof the year. Yeah. Now,
if your Quinn yours do me afavor, and I love the Manning fan,
(02:11:15):
don't read that stuff. I payattention to that stuff. Don't listen
to that stuff because Paul Fine bombWall dialed in, and he's dialed in,
has not taken a center snap atall the last three years that I
know of. It's Quinn yours timeto go shine. And if you want
to put it on a three byfive card in your piss. And the
next time Paul Fine mom wants aninterview, you make sure you remind him.
But in the other process, you'vegot a job to stave off what
(02:11:37):
many people are anticipating is going tohave a great career too in Arch Manning.
So, boy, the bullets arealready flying right at Quinn yours.
Yeah, I guarantee it. Andyou hear you heard it here first?
Do you do I think it?No? I don't. I think Texas
is going to play well enough thisyear, and I think arch Manning is
(02:11:58):
going to have a hell of aer. Two DNA says he's pretty good
right, okay, and he mentallyhe'll be into I have I believe that
quinn Ewers if he's if he's putin the time this offseason, which pretty
good idea that he did. Ithink that quinn Ewers has this team in
position too, And I know it'sthe SEC. It is going to be
a grind, but they are goodenough to be well, they're gonna they're
(02:12:20):
gonna make the playoff in my opinion. They are good enough with the talent
to have a chance to win thewhole thing, and a lot of it's
going to be on his but theywill. If he goes two or three
bad games in a row, youdamn well know the alumni aren't gonna let
Sark sit there and say wait tillnext year. So it's a game to
game thing for a guy who couldbe the first friggin pick of the draft.
(02:12:41):
Isn't that crazy? It's nuts, sure is. Yeah, he was
just at the past the Manning passingAcademy, throwing dimes all over the place.
Well, we'll continue to Both ofthem were obviously our chan Quinn because
well the family puts on the campand Quinn yours is the guy right.
You see the the balls that he'sthrowing videos over the weekend. It was
impressive. Man. I know, its just shorts and a T shirt.
(02:13:03):
It is what it is. Butwe judge people by that a lot of
time. Sure do. It waspretty impressive. All right. We're going
to continue to talk about some sSEC sports. Jim Schlosnegel spoke about his
departure from Texas A and M andwhy it affected him when Trev Alberts became
the AD at Texas A and M. We'll discuss it next on Sports Talk
seven ninety. But also the ClassicElite rev Up Summer sales event continues over

Sean Salisbury shown. Get back atit. No, what are the streets
(02:14:35):
saying tripley? You're are Residence streetsinsider. Hey metro es, I'm going
to shoot you. And the wayyour mind works. The way your mind
works needs to be studied because yourmemory, the wealth of use is knowledge
and then out of nowhere. Oh, I wonder what young metro. I'm
(02:14:56):
going to donate it to science.Yeah, they're gonna find out a lot
of things. Great memory. Butman, is this dude up? Oh
yeah, no doubt. Excuse me. Let me take back when the Clippers
traded for Paul George. You knowwhat they got, thunder got Shake gild
(02:15:18):
Just Alexander, a couple others.I'd have to go back over in five
first round picks. I think PAULIWalnuts is now Philadelphia seventy six er.
Yeah, then Shake Guild Just Alexanderis one of the best players in the
league right now. Guess who's betterShake Gildas Alexander is better than Paul Paul
(02:15:39):
George. Yeah, And like theforty four other players that were in that
deal that was back in what twentynineteen, maybe the seventy six ers dished
out close to half a billion dollarsthis morning. And also, you know
another question that I that I thatI wanted to ask you is Adam Wolden.
My goodness, Adrian, yeah,o Janowski. He dropped the tweet
(02:16:01):
in regards to Paul George signing thatcontract with the seventy six Ers at like
two thirty this morning. M arethey really making the deals at two thirty
this morning to where he has toget up and didn't drop that news.
I know the deal, you can. You can rest assured was probably pretty
close to dot and Ey's and crossand T's before that. But Adrian has
(02:16:24):
to be ready to be the onewho breaks that. So he's just like,
you know what. He probably hadit, yeah, probably had it
around midnight, but they say wehaven't signed it yet. So you just
wait because if you if you blow, if if you don't respect the people
who gave you the information or respecttheir timeline, then you cut into when
you need them the next time togive you the information, they delay you
(02:16:46):
and somebody else gets it. Idon't think it was all of a sudden.
They got it in five seconds later. He put it out, Yeah,
which he he knows the draft picksbefore the draft picks are out.
They've had to limit that the NBAbecause he's beaten teams to the punch,
meaning some in the organization told Hiwho they're drafting three minutes before, and
he's got it on Twitter. SoI believe, Yeah, you didn't just
negotiate two hundred and fourteen million dollarsin ten minutes or two hours. That
(02:17:09):
was obviously being talked about, talkedabout, talked about, talked about,
and then bingo when it was done. That's when they gave him first go,
first release, let it go.And you know he's been on top
of it all the time. He'sthat's why he makes what ten million bucks
a year whatever he's making, sohe here's here's the deal. When you're
when you're an insider like that,of course they want to be right,
(02:17:31):
but you know what they want tobe more than anything first correct, and
if they both go hand in handthe majority of the time they're right,
then then you're the guy. Andthat's why you're making ten Listen, if
I'd have said, you know whodropping a woj moomb is fifteen years ago,
you just said I have no idea. Now he's more probably you go
to him before you'll go to AdamSilver for inside information. Then you don't
(02:17:52):
want to go the commissioner. That'sexactly right. I just feel like they
can't drop news in like regular businesshours, uh not in pro sports.
If you want to be the firstguy, if you keep getting uh,
somebody beats you to the punch ona regular basis. Guess what you're not
making is an insider ten million dollarsa year, right figured you know?
Woking up, woke up at fourand saw Adrian Wojanowski dropping a bomb at
(02:18:16):
two thirty this morning. In regardsto Paul George signing that massive contract seven
seveninety, Conrad James, thanks forholding good morning. Ah yes, good
morning gentlemen. Uh, looking forwardto a great week and a few things.
I'll be brief. If I hadto give a game ball to somebody,
(02:18:39):
I'm gonna give it to the Astrogame I'm gonna give it to Duban.
Dubin was awesome. He was spoton, efficient and aggressive and uh
he gave us three great innings. Now I think he can take Nearris's place.
Now. The other thing is youlike hats. Okay, I like
(02:19:07):
hats too. I'm a half guy. I'm gonna recommend a half for you.
I just got a DJ screw astrocap. It's really cool. Purple
has skull, has Astro logo onit. He's the famous Texas rapper.
You know, I think that'd bea nice addition. Well, you know
what, last thank you, I'mgonna go give it a look. I
(02:19:28):
like that. Okay, I appreciatethe suggestion. Yeah, yeah, famous
fame rockstar rapper. He died intwenty ten, unfortunately, way before its
time. Okay. Now, uh, finally I'm happy to say this.
The Astros are real. They're back, and this is exactly why we've had
Valdez and other pictures melt down. And that was the end of the game,
(02:19:54):
right am, I right? Thegame was over that. You know,
people got five runs in the firstinning. We're we're toast. But
now I see consistently we're finding waysto win. When we're down five runs,
we come back and win ten tofive. Now this has a meltdown,
(02:20:16):
no problem, everybody comes back,we win the game. And so
I'm looking forward to a very goodsecond half of the season. Amen,
Conroe James, I think a lotof people would agree with you. And
uh, Duban is going to getthat fifth slot, I think for now.
Don't mean yeah, he's pitched prettywell in his appearances. Hopefully you
(02:20:41):
can get him stretched out a bitright to take over that fifth spot.
He's got no choice, really, you really don't. And then with Luis
Garcia Echin closer back. If he'salready going to be throwing rehab starts in
corpus Chrissy, he'll be back.I'm assuming after the All Star break.
Maybe wouldn't it be great? Wouldn'tit be great if lou Garcia was back
to being who he is? Really, wouldn't it be Yeah? I liked
(02:21:01):
this? Yeah, man, itwould be awesome. I know you're you
know Trev Alberts over at Texas Aand M I do. He is the
athletic director. I do well.Apparently he's brash, smart, competitive.
Brash is a good word, especiallyfrom some of the reports and a story
(02:21:22):
that Jim Schlasnagel got interviewed or sorry, a story that was written after Jim
Schlasnagel was interviewed asking about him leavingpost correct. Yeah, pretty transparent with
his relationship with Trev Alberts. Let'sdiscuss that next on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Hey, are you planning for yourwealth management and your financial future just
(02:21:45):

you handle your finances right and getthe proper wealth management team like Trajan Wealth,
you may be able to take alot more vacation right Prepared for retirement

it's time to prepare for it.And tras Wealth can help give him a
(02:23:11):
call three four six three seven onethirty three thirty three four six three seven
one thirty three thirty er Traswealth dotcom. Peace of Mind's important, you
deserve it. Trasan Wealth can help. Trasianwealth dot Com. Advisory services offered
through Tradition Wealth LLC and SEC RegisteredInvestment Advisor paid advertisement were the Shawn Salisbury
(02:23:31):
Show continued, Texas A and MBaseball Texas UH, that whole rivalry obviously,
the SEC welcoming in Texas and OUyesterday, Jim Schlasnagel, and that
whole drama of him leaving Texas Aand M. He spoke to Paul Finebaum
(02:23:52):
and Laura Rutledge yesterday on the campusof University of Texas on ESPN, and
he spoke about when things changed forhim when A. D. Trev Alberts
took over, and this is howit sounded. I don't think there's any
any tipping point reason. It wasjust I took a job under one pretense
(02:24:13):
with an athletic director in Ross bYork, and trev I think is gonna
do great things at Texas A andM. There were some things that led
me to it just became a differentjob. And there's a lot of uncertainty
in college athletics, as we allknow, and there's gonna be uncertainty everywhere.
(02:24:33):
But the one thing I know ofthat is relatively certain is my relationship
with Chris. And that's not anegative on Texas A and M. I'm
you know, they're gonna think whatthey want to think, and that's okay.
But it was just more of myrelationship with Chris. I don't want
to coach forever, yeah, andso for the remainder of which I do
want to coach, I wanted tohave some certainty with the future. And
(02:24:56):
again, I think A and Mis going to do great things. But
universe you have Texas was it wasjust too much to walk away from,
all right, So that's Jim slowsAge. Let me give you a little
more context it and I can't disrespectanything he said there now all the stuff
preceding that, you can. Youcan kind of go from whatever you want
and break down any way you want, the way it was handled all that.
(02:25:16):
But I can never argue a guywho thinks he's going to do a
better job in his mind. I'mnot saying an A and m's mind,
and you know one of the things. And I really relate it back to
here in Houston. He just didn'thandle it well to prescottin That's the only
problem about it, and the onlyreason this is a big deal is because
it's it's a guy that left TexasA and M for their hated rival,
University of Texas. Let me askyou this, if he'd ha gone to
(02:25:37):
Florida State, no one would care. No one would care. If he
left it came to the University ofHouston, no one would care. We
kind of get a dig in on, come on, man, you would
after the reporter and said you're notleaving and you're still left. Right,
it's the hyper sensitive rivalry. WhenI say, right, it's about time,
about to start that thing up again. But you get it's it's where
(02:26:00):
it is. How it happened, who it was, and where you went.
It just is most of us.Never I never begrudge a guy for
going what he thinks is a betterjob for him, right, And again
I relate it to when Demiko Ryansgot the job here for the Texans.
What's one of the first things thatwe talked about. Hey, watch in
a year or two if things aren'trunning smoothly between him and Nick Cassario,
(02:26:22):
don't be surprised if Demiko Ryans bringsin a guy that he wants as his
general manager. So if Trent Albertscame in and they weren't seeing eyed,
I Schlasteker was gonna leave at somepoint. Anyways, And think about this.
We hire guys, hire guys, and then the guy who hired you
leaves because he's going to a betterad job, or gets or whatever,
(02:26:43):
or decides to retire. And thenthe next code, the next day he
comes in and guess what, youmay not be his guy. Right,
even if you're good and great, you may not be his guy. Well,
guess what you do. Didn't thegreat cal State Fullerton Augie Gurito leave
to go coach at UT and winmore national tiles there? Won five total.
I think in his career, Godrest his soul. So I get
(02:27:05):
to listen. And it's the samething with a coach. Well, okay,
coach doesn't coach, drafts the quarterback, the coach leaves, new coach
comes in. He wants this guy. Yeah, and sometimes it sometimes it
hits where you're like, no,I want to keep this guy, and
sometimes you go find new guys.Right, happens all the time. It's
just the proximity, who it is, how he handled the press conference.
(02:27:28):
Nobody's doubting the Jim Shosnagel knows howto coach baseball. I mean, he's
there's no doubt, phenomenal Hall ofFame career, there's no doubt. And
Trev trusts me knowing Trev Trev isa very. He's a Trev. Trev
is a very what's the word I'mlooking for type A personality, gets after
it, smart, competitive, allthose things. Sometimes when those things come
(02:27:50):
together, it's different. Sometimes philosophicaldifference is fine. This all comes down
to proximity and how it was handledand whatever goes on from there. People
at A and M aren't gonna likethe people Texas love. Okay, And
it was the opposite was true.If it would have been reversed, people
would be going crazy because they gotJim Slasnegel is there is their head coach,
so and Brian with this. Youknow, it's you know, so
(02:28:13):
many things are said. Eventually, you know, you go and maybe you
get to play each other. Yea, that'd be great. So it is.
It's the how close this whole situationwas and how it happened, and
how the press conference was handled.Yeah, it's really comes down to that
symbol. Now, you know,it makes for I'll tell you what it
(02:28:33):
makes for a great fall and arivalry and the rest of it. And
I'm never going to be grudge aguy for taking what he thinks is a
better job. The rest of usmay or may not. It's up to
you who cares. The bottom lineis he ain't going back to A and
M and A and M's moved on. So he was interviewed by the Fort
Worth Star Telegram, and to bearwith me, it's a little lengthy.
(02:28:54):
He's and this is Jim Schlasnagle quote. Trev came to me the day before
the regional to have a conversation. He asked me if I was frustrated.
I told him that I had frustrationwith how slow the ballpark process was going,
and then it was a tough Itwas tough to operate without a sports
administrator, but I was committed toworking through it. He then made a
comment to me kind of comparing hissituation of leaving his alma matern Nebraska.
He said to me, you know, Jim, if you ever, if
(02:29:16):
you ever don't feel like this isthe place for you, that's okay,
and it's okay to move on.End quote. I was a little taken
aback by that, and that wasthe moment that I began to think that
maybe this wasn't going to work out. No one ever contacted me or my
agent about a new contract for ourstaff, so I just decided to focus
on getting our team to Omaha andwinning. End quote. So if that
is true, and this came straightfrom Jim slasnego to the Fourth or Star
(02:29:37):
Telegram, that's true, and thatconversation did happen, then I guarantee you
Trev Alberts was already getting ready tomove on or at some point was going
to get a new head coach inthere. I will ask you this,
if somebody came in any job, somebody lives in in your boss, whether
Trev's right or wrong. Once again, don't guys like to get the guy
they want? They want their ownpeople that most people do in all walks
(02:29:58):
of life. Yes, okay, this isn't some planned marriage. It happened
to under contract ones in an opportunityof frustration, wants to you know,
all those things. So with that, if if you heard that from somebody
you knew. What if your girlfriendcame to you and said, hey,
if at any point and was seriousthe same point in time you think moving
(02:30:18):
on is good, I'll understand that. I'll be okay, what do you
do? What the hell? Probablytime to think that either they got something
else going on, it's time forme to move on because all in ain't
there, right and in my opinion, in sports, if all in in
life. But if all in ain'tthere, either way, you're not going
to get the best of both worlds. And if that was the case,
(02:30:39):
but during negotiations and or those thosetypes of conversations, if in fact your
boss came to you and if thisis a fact and said that, guess
what that means to me? ThatTrevor liked what do I say about the
draft when you're drafting somebody, Bryant, thank you. I said, if
you like a guy, don't pickhim that high. If you love a
(02:31:00):
guy, pick him and draft himand hire him, no matter what the
rest of the world says. Itfeels like Jim no longer loved this situation,
and Trev Alberts liked Schlasnegel and respectshim as Schlasnegel appears to with Trev,
but he didn't love him. NowChris Kanti is what his guy,
(02:31:22):
he's his best friend. So ifthat's the case, do you feel a
little more secure? And it ain'tlike you're going to Harry hatchet Ass University.
There's some pretty good sports being playedover there in Austin, just like
there's some pretty good things going onat A and M. I think Trev
Alberts is gonna kick acid in Collegestation, because I can tell you this.
If it ain't going well, heain't waiting five years in any sport,
(02:31:45):
just like I think Texas's baseball programwill continue to thrive. You take
the restaurant whether you like it.Texas loves Schlasnegel and Kanti loves him,
hired him in the first place atTCU, and Trev Alberts is probably were
gonna want he hired. He likesthis hire. And if this hire doesn't
work out in three years, guesswhat Trev Alberts is going to do.
(02:32:07):
It's gonna be gone. And gettingback to Tomico and that it looks like
Tomko and Nick Cassarro are some simpoticwhen on the same page. I can
tell you this. If it startsto go south in this situation, guess
who's going first? Uh? NickCaserea, Uh yeah, yeah, back
to the power thing. But rightnow we don't have to worry about that
because this thing's got everything going good. Keep it going good, and you'll
never have the conversation. Yeah.Do you see what JaMarcus Russell did?
(02:32:31):
No, I know this, Ididn't Isaiah hart Hartenstein he played here a
couple of years, right, Uh, yeah he did. Do you know
he just got three years eighty almostninety eighty seven million from Oklahoma City.
Yeah, big goofy white guy,Yeah, big basic white guy. Listen,
all basic white guys need to beworth eighty seven million? Now,
could we do that? Yeah?Of what I'm saying is you think about
(02:32:54):
he was just a guy here. Now he's eighty seven million worth a guy
to Oklahoma City. Unbelievable man,Yeah a lot. So were you get
ready to say about JaMarcus Trump?Oh, he's it up. Yeah he
JaMarcus Russell back in the news, not for being the biggest bus but uh
or being not really a good person. Oh that hurts, that sucks.

Texas yesterday adential inauguration. Gosh fireworks, food trucks, all kinds of stuff
going on. What a celebration.Welcome to the sec Huh yeah, man,
(02:35:07):
awesome, pretty pretty impressive stuff fromuh UT yesterday. Pit Bull made
an appearance at this celebrate. Yeah, at this celebration, he spoke with
ESPN's Marty Smith and this is whathe had to say. My new great
friend Pitt Bull allowed me to infiltratehis dressing room, much to his chagrin.
(02:35:30):
Yeah, you're one of the greatestentertainers on this earth. You could
be anywhere to be. I appreciatethat. Thank you. Why was it
important for you to be here today? Well, first of Austince, we're
here to day. Why are wehere to day? It's always beautiful to
be a part of history. It'salways beautiful to see a team, a
university that's worked hard to be ableto take it to the next level.
So with that said, I'm hereto congratulate and celebrate with them. He's

new bed. What do you saymy new best friend? Marty Smith's Classic.
Good. They had a big celebration. It was flowing yesterday, man,
(02:36:37):
fireworks, all kinds of stuff.Chris Cordy brought in some videos.
He's out there, you know, welcoming and welcoming them. That was,
