second that I saw that there was the death threats
coming out, I number one knew it was somebody on
a camera, I mean, someone behind the camera screen, somebody
on a computer that wasn't going to be ever have
to hold themselves accountable in the public eye. And number two,
it was a bet and he probably had won too

Like if you're hitching your wagon to that game, like
that's one of those that they say in gambling that

slugging percentage and twenty seventh in RBIs in twenty fifth
and run scored, that you're going to deliver a masterclass

at a stadium that the last time you pitched that
wasn't even called dyke in park, Like, like, I mean,
that's on you, dude. You should know the situations. You
should understand that. Hey, the fact that he's back on
the mound is a miracle in itself. The fact that
he's able to give you thirty pitches is a promising thing.
And by the way, there's gonna be a rollercoaster of

emotions that go into playing in your home park. Number One,
never and this has always been my role, just like
it is whenever a player gets called up and they're
on my fantasy team, never play them in their first

not a face card up on the dealer's side. Hit
hit hit, he breaks, she flips, she hits twenty one.
It's like, at this point when we're giving you open advice,
you gotta realize in the game of poker, Damn, Matthews

and I are playing together as a team. We want
to break that dealer. Yeah, yeah, blackcha. We want to
break that dealer's soul. We want the casino to have
to feel like that they have to take on a
second mortgage, like we don't care that Caesar lived deer.
We want to make sure that we're walking away the
champions of the world. Like it's a team sport. No,
it's not. It's blackjack. Everyone plays it as single.

well on the softball front, how about Texas and Texas
Tech able to move on to the Women's College World

Series Finals, so they're gonna play for the national title
in softball as Tech able to end the run for Oklahoma.
I watched a little bit of that game. I did
not have a chance to see Texas and Tennessee. But
now you get an old going all the way back
to the Southwest Conference rivalry for a chance to say
that Texas is the capital of softball.

I say, you can just go really old back to
last year when it was two big fall teams. That's
true together.

That's another one. I was so impressed with the way
Carter pitch and I don't get I'm not going to
act like I know everything about softball, but she is
one of the pioneer faces of women's sports at NIL.
Have you seen what her package is out in Lubbock.
It's red. We're talking over six seven figures, we're talking
over five million dollars, and she is living up to it.

Because if she knocked out Patty Gusco, I mean like
she knocked off this dynasty of a team for the
last decade in the big twelve year one in the SEC.
People picking them to win the conference, people picking them
to win another national title. They have the backing of
Oklahoma City, which is literally just a hop skipping to
jump from Norman and she goes out there and dominates it.

And credit to Texas too for kind of putting them
in that loser's bracket where they were going to have
to win back to back games just for an opportunity
to get the rematch against Texas later on this week.

Well, and I mean Oklahoma gets the two run homer
there in the seventh and then Tech able to walk
it off as I had already flipped over to had
the LSU Little Rock game, which Tiger fans, I'm sure
probably if you're up right now, you're feeling it this morning,
and I feel it with you. But for that game,
I saw that Tech had won because of Dallas Braden's

Instagram posts that he had because Dallas Braiden a proud
Texas Tech guy. Yeah, and he had posted the video
of the sacrifice fly for Texas Tech to be able
to walk it off and win it. And they're head
coach I think is like a national darling now, like
everybody loves this guy.

old grandpa with just all the wisdom in the world.
Like he's one of those dudes you want to sit
down and get life lessons with on the stoop. Like

much playoff basketball, but I do think I am going

viewing ahead of it. But if if I am unencumbered
to be able to watch this, then I'm I'm definitely
gonna watch this.

I'm gonna pay attention to it, but I'm also gonna
be paying attention to what we got with the Eloilers
versus the Panthers in a rematch of last years Stanley
Cup playoffs. I'm sorry, You're gonna be one of the
fewer in the crowd in this city that will be
very excited whenever Connor McDavid gets a goal and I
get to watch Matthew Chuck give a body shot to

whoever is on the Oilers side. America versus Canada, a
pastime that we've all been waiting for.

NBA Finals, and also to the Texans back on the
OTA practice field today. Wait and see on CJ see
if that tight non my rowing shoulder is still a
bother for him. But we'll also see if even some
of the guys that weren't there last week are out
on the practice field. Joe Mixon wasn't there last week.

I gotta I actually got a question about that, because
it is you know, this is the thing that me
and Sean determined last week, and it was honestly, it
was it was my it was my determination and in
my proclamation to make is We're not doing deep dives
on OTA's in mini camp. That's a waste of time.

into today seeing if CJ is back at even fifty.

that was there last week that is of consequence was
Will Anderson Junior.

Yeah, and he's going into a contract year, so naturally
he wants to do all the right things to be
able to add a little bit more value to the
dollars sign at the very end. So like that's kind
of expected. But I agree with you in a sense,
anybody who's trying to figure out what this offensive line
is going to be where number one, they don't have
shoulder pads, and number two they're not going up against

actual competition other than a few little shoves after what
is the initial point of emphasis of attack, you're not
gonna find out anything like cool tay ORSII is killing
it against the third team defensive end right now.

I sure hope that he's looking decent against the guy
that's fighting for a roster shop when the Texans were
willing to trade up newly twenty spots against you, like

This season, the Astros overall thirty two and twenty seven
with an expected win loss of thirty one twenty eight,
so performing two games better than the expected wins or
losses and complain about now, that means that the Astros
have been able to do what they weren't able to
do last year, and that's be able to come back
win games late, and you know, be able to hold

on to win that maybe you know, it looked like
for a time that it was going to get away
from them. But they're thirty two and twenty seven at
the moment this year. Against teams above five hundred, they're
twenty three and twenty one. Teams under five hundred, they're
nine and six. Even more, they're ten and fifteen on
the road this year, where they are ten games above

five hundred on the home floor. So you know, the
difference here is that the good news is you're facing
the third worst record in the National League in the
Pittsburgh Pirates.

matter of fact, they're the second worst record. But you
get my point, waiting baseball or just the National that

There's no way that they're worse than the White Sox
in just baseball in general.

They I think overall, in all of baseball they are
tied right now for the third worst US say third.

act speak better this year. So congratulations, I got lost

Yeah, the Pirates are twenty two and thirty eight on
the season, and the Astros trying to be able to
take advantage of this soft part of the schedule, because
it's really what it comes down to in games like this,
you want to be able to find your way into
not only getting past the Mariners, but also being able
to get way ahead of the Mariners. Well, this is

a way that you can do it is being able
to take advantage of series like this and maybe even
being able to steal one to night, because I feel like,
you steal one tonight, you feel really good about the
rest of the series, even though your pitching is not
necessarily in the best shape right now.

You steal want tonight. How do you feel about getting
the sweep gone into Wednesday and Thursday?

Oh, I mean I think that.

I mean, Gusto is obviously a wild card and all
of this because I mean his starts that he's gone
out there, he's not been able to get past the
fifth inning, So that means you gotta rely on the
bullpen in the middle part.

Of the bullpen at least.

Has shaken my confidence in them after the last series,
even though Steve Sparks said he is not shaken by
what he saw in the last series.

I'm still in a belief of, yes, you had your moments,
but also sometimes teams just have your goose like that's
just it. And Tampa is one of these rosters that
it doesn't matter where they play, it doesn't matter what
the overall record is in the division. They seem to
play their best against competition that is viewed in the

public eye as a threat to win a World Series.
And this has been a case underneath Kevin Cash for years,
like they always over exceed expectations. They have the third
lowest payroll in baseball, yet you look at the standings,
they're above Boston, They're above Toronto, they're above of Baltimore.
All three teams that either spent money, have really good

(19:59):
young cores in play or were expected to compete for
a pennant, whether it be just an American League East
one or one at the entire level in the American
League and overthrow the Astros, Like this is the way
that we view them. But yet here they are every
single year finding a way to get ten games above
five hundred, make it to the wild Card round, and
then once they get to October, they find a way
to craft the bed. But that's kind of expected when

you look at the payroll of what they have on
their roster and who they're trusting to kind of get
them a win in the sixth inning. But like, you
have a bad game against a Tampa Bay Rays team
that has been known for being able to hold its
own in these type of matchups, I don't worry right now.
I actually really spark on this one. Like Brian King,
he responded after that bad performance earlier in the week,

you know you're going to have the trust that Caleb
Ward is going to get better and that it was
just a fluke that Steven Oker, that one bad ending
in a game that was already so far out of reach.
That's gonna get better. Like Forrest Whitley, I understand. Let
let's let's put him on the bench, Let's not go
to him if we don't have to. Let's take a breather,
let him get acclimated coming off of the il, and

then we can have a conversation of what is the
long term plan. If a week from now, after you
come back home from playing against Pittsburgh and Cleveland, he
still is having these struggles. But I'm not worried about
the bullpen right now. They've been lights out against basically
everybody besides two teams all year. It can happening again
in PNC Park.

Well, and that's what you're hoping to be able to do,
because Tonight has mentioned Paul Skeen's going at the last
five times out, he has pitched at least a quality
outing of six innings. The most earned runs he's given
up in the game this year was all the way
back on April the eighth to five against the Saint
Louis Cardinals. But also in this five game stretch that
he's on, he's one to two, including losing like Hunter

Brown did to the Rangers, won the nothing to the Phillies,
and then.

Speaker 1 (21:47):
You talk about okay, So like you win to night
Skame against Paul Skeins, you steal and win in the
way that they would say against one of baseball's best pitchers.
You're going up against a guy tomorrow in Burrows who
has an eight, six or fourty. You're going up against Mitch
Keller on Thursday. He has a three seventy three e.
He's been really well. He's actually been one of the

more qualified pitchers in my opinion. He's like the Luis
Severino of the National League, where the numbers don't justify
how well he's been pitching. He is a one and
seven record. What does that say His offense can't bail
him out of trouble when he gives it the long
ball and it's the solo shot. When he has runners
in scoring position and he gives it that single. You
don't have an ONEO cruise driving in runs or an

Andrew McCutcheon or a Brian Reynolds or an ikf You
don't have that guy, and who's on your sign from
ber Valdez and so as of Black right now, over
the last month, we haven't gotten good fromber Dan. We've
gotten great fromber and if that continues on the road,
I mean, this is the game that you just got
to be able to hold your own at least and

take it to the bullpen, like get two runs, have
Lance mccullors, give you five strong trust that your bullpen
can kind of put this Pirates team that is one
of the worst with hitting and runners in scoring position
in this year in trouble going into the seventh inning.
And then eventually once you get Skins out of the game,
let al tuo ve la paying. You'll let somebody else
go ahead and launch one. Est oc Paradas come back

in a two run blast of PNC Park and you
walk away with a dub like you don't even have
to get to schemes. You just got to stay in
contention as long as scheins.

On the mountain well and then also relies too on
Lance mccullor Junior, who I mean you last time out,
he gave you his best start that he had had.
I mean, I think the last time he had gone
a quality outing was October of twenty twenty two. Was
the last time that that happened, because I mean, remember,
missed all twenty three, missed all of last year and
back this year, and I mean, you've been able to

get for the most part, the red start not included.
You've been able to get decent stuff out of him.
You just hope that the longevity is there. Like I said,
you know, after his last outing, the six innings, I
was like, that's pretty much what you were getting out
of Renel Blanco. If you can get that, then you
can be able to cancel out that loss for the
time being.

I think I was filling in the time the last
time we saw him, and it was it wasn't the
most complete game, but it was one of those I'll
take that kind of games. Twelve strikeouts, six I will take.
I'll take the six innings. I'll take the six innings,
six strikeouts through yourn run. Well, everyone will, because if
at least you're not going to your bullpen at the
point of where you know the next day, Gusto comes

on the mound, or if it was God forbid for ambravadez.
Now they have to go seven, and now you're limited
with your arms, and now you're limited with your pitch count,
with your bullpen, like, I'll take that version. Give me
that tonight. Give me six, give me six strikeouts, give

is coming up, but I'm okay with that. So long
as you walk away with your bullpen's not having to

you got to be able to see how he is

is that you want to be able to see is
Lance mccullors somebody that could be counted on? And I
think tonight goes a long way towards proving yes or
no in answering that question.

worried about on and the production backs it up as well,

kind of allows you to say, this is what we're
willing to spend on the market before July gets wrong.

love to see the swings and misses and being able

one walk against twelve strikeouts. Game before that eight strikeouts
against three walks. I'll take the ladder. Like, my biggest fear,
especially in this game, is that you give up a
leadoff walk and Brian Roonins gets to play with one

in a three to zero hole and your offense can't
get going. So that what you at the wonder is

can he give you enough innings? Can he eat up
enough pitches to where by the time that you get
to your bullpen, your offense maybe is warmed up. Going
through Paul Skiing to the first through the second round like,
that's my fear in this game is that schemes will
be lights out and you can't counteract that. So even
though it maybe another one run ball game like we
saw on Sunday, it's a one run where now you're

down and out of the count against a team that
probably shouldn't even be in the running to begin with.

some struggles down in the minor leagues, different things had
kind of kept him from getting up here a little

bit sooner. But you finally get to see him now
you start to wonder, is he somebody that can make
an impact for this team or is he gonna be
Joey Loperffito two.

Point out see And that's exactly where I was going.

I mean, if there are expectations to think that you
were getting out of this guy, I mean, just looking
at what he was able to do at the minor

exactly as you just said, You're getting Joey Loperfito again,
which means that he'll probably be traded at the Dome.

That's what I was getting at. Is more so is
he coming up here as the audition because of you
know that Chas McCormick is trade value is at a low.
You're not gonna get anything in return for him because
of what you've seen from him at the major league level.
But Melton, who despite dealing with injuries, was viewed as
a highly touted prospect at one point was a top
seventy prospect and MiLB pipeline rankings. Is one of your

better players when it comes to the minor league system
and you know that you're still in that win now territory,
like like that's what it comes down to. Would I
love to see Jacob Meltain prove that he is an
everyday left fielder or that he can contribute in center
to where it's a good backup behind Jake Myers. Yeah,
I mean, nobody's gonna be complaining about that, and you

have an opportunity to make the most of your time
to where maybe the conversation switch and we're not talking
about him being Joey Loberfido, but Zach Desenzo is Joey Loberfido,
where he's the one that's on the move. Because if
you like that he is a little bit more polished
as a defender, you like that he adds more contact.
You can kind of move him around the lineup, whether
it be in the two hole some days, the six
hole some days, the eight hole some days, and you

have him and Cam Smith and he's a natural outfielder
and not an infielder the exact same way that low
Berfido was coming out of Dupe when he was get
when he got drafted. Like like, maybe that's what it is.
I'm not going into this series against Pittsburgh and this
weekend against Cleveland and saying, Hey, Melton's guy who X,
Y and Z to guarantee he's on a roster spot.

You dealt with a ton of injuries. Somebody has to
make the act a twenty six man. He was next
in line. Let's see what he's got. Like, Honestly, I'm
more at this point saying camp Smith, you've been here
for sixty games. Now it's time for you to kind
of take that next step forward because the guy below you,
