Speaker 1 (00:04):
Okay, let's do this.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Sewn Salisbury USC true longtime friend Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 3 (00:14):
Dan Matthews. This is the Sewan Salisbury Show. It is
Sean Salisbury Show. Away we go, good morning.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
This is the wext seat. Isn't it is this?
Speaker 4 (00:29):
Or were you sitting here last night?
Speaker 2 (00:31):
I was?
Speaker 1 (00:31):
I didn't mess with it.
Speaker 5 (00:32):
Okay, my god. Well it's still blowing out the ear
drums this morning. But I'm death, but I'm not that dead. Yeah, anyway,
that's I guess my problem. That voice you're hearing over
on the other end, that's called Thompson Dan Matthews here
with you on your home of the Astros and the Rockets.
Speaking of the Astros, they were off last night, nice
little day off for Steve Sparks and his son to
(00:54):
be able to go enjoy the great city of Pittsburgh.
I think he said, I forget what music or wherever
they were going. It wasn't the the mister Rogers Clemente,
that's it.
Speaker 4 (01:05):
Yep, yep, there you go. There you go.
Speaker 5 (01:06):
So hopefully Sparky and all the Astros contingent you're able
to enjoy a nice day off there in Pittsburgh. But
they're back at it tonight it can be Lance mccullor's
junior against Paul Skens. Speaking of mc junior, HPDE saying
a drunk, frustrated gambler was behind the Lance mccullors junior
death threats. No charges filed at this time overseas? Is
(01:30):
that what even shocking to you? Like a little bit
that I wasn't not degenerate?
Speaker 1 (01:34):
No, not really.
Speaker 5 (01:35):
I mean, look, I like, you know, whenever you hear
things like that, you don't want to minimize it and
you don't want to just be like, oh, you're overreacting
whatever it is, because I mean, you know, you involve family,
involve you know, people that you care about and yourself,
then you want to take it seriously. And the Astros
did clearly, so did Lance and everybody else. And credit
to HPD for getting to the bottom of it and
(01:57):
figuring out that it was some loser. And it's funny
enough too that after I saw that report, because I'm
watching the NAA regionals yesterday and they had that PSA
out there of if you go after an athlete because
you lost a bet, you're a loser.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
And then immediately right after it's like, oh, by the way,
PSA Lance McCullers Junior dealing with a drunken degenerate oversea,
not even in Houston, which I also thought was really
kind of stupid because of he can't openly go out
like the city and give a sentiment apology because he's
probably somewhere in like Spain or in Portugal is making
(02:33):
these bets online. It's dumb. It's dumb. But like the
second that I saw that there was the death threats
coming out, I number one knew it was somebody on
a camera, I mean, someone behind the camera screen, somebody
on a computer that wasn't going to be ever have
to hold themselves accountable in the public eye. And number two,
it was a bet and he probably had won too
(02:54):
many bud lights, That's what it was.
Speaker 5 (02:56):
I mean, wherever he was, he definitely did get himself
like you know what. It almost kind of reminds me
of in a weird way. Remember Peyton Manning at the
Pro Bowl about what Mike vander chat said about him,
and he was just like, I could care less what
about some liquored up kicker has to say about me?
And Peyton made his his feelings known pretty well, so
(03:18):
got in to the bottom of that. You know that
that's the case. But here's the other part as well.
That was Lance's second start back in over two years.
Like if you're hitching your wagon to that game, like
that's one of those that they say in gambling that
a sucker is born every single day. A sucker was
born that day. Like that is the textbook version of
(03:40):
stay off the game.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
It's more than that. Dan Matthews, Number one, you look
great in that shirt.
Speaker 4 (03:46):
Number thanks two.
Speaker 1 (03:48):
This is his second start after in his first start
he didn't even go five innings, Like he had ninety
three pitches in that first game and barely got out
of the fourth. I mean, like, like, that's what we're
talking about. And you're going up against a Cincinnati Reds
team that has been hot and cold, but at the
time was also playing pretty hot. They were starting to
(04:10):
get into a groove, they were coming off of a
winning series, and you're trusting in his first home start
in over two years, after the performance that he had
against a lowly white Sox team, which is twenty first,
I mean twenty third in ops and twenty fifth and
slugging percentage and twenty seventh in RBIs in twenty fifth
and run scored, that you're going to deliver a masterclass
(04:35):
at a stadium that the last time you pitched that
wasn't even called dyke in park, Like, like, I mean,
that's on you, dude. You should know the situations. You
should understand that. Hey, the fact that he's back on
the mound is a miracle in itself. The fact that
he's able to give you thirty pitches is a promising thing.
And by the way, there's gonna be a rollercoaster of
(04:55):
emotions that go into playing in your home park. Number One,
never and this has always been my role, just like
it is whenever a player gets called up and they're
on my fantasy team, never play them in their first
start because you never know what to expect. That five RBI,
three home run game, it may be the outlier, the
five golden sombrero, and like the pop out over five
(05:16):
batting take, that might also be the outlier. Let him
get acclimated. Anything with the pitcher coming back after two.
Speaker 5 (05:21):
Years, Well maybe whenever we get your Don Alvarez back,
you know, hopefully you get the first thing that you
just mentioned right there in terms of the stat line,
not the other one.
Speaker 1 (05:29):
Yeah, but would you rather have the first thing that
happens and then him go over fifteen with his next
at bats, or maybe go one for three with a
single and then two days later he has two home runs,
Like that's what I'm talking about here.
Speaker 5 (05:40):
All right, well, there you go. I'll take that one,
but we're gonna have to wait and see on that one.
So good to see that HBD get into the bottom
of the Lance mccullorus junior death threats. And you know,
for that guy right there, I don't know, maybe maybe
take a playoff or two when it comes to betting
the games, I mean, look, not everybody is good. Again,
(06:00):
that is a you know, a reality that I think
most of us know. But it's also too It's it's
the problem is you know when you have friends of
yours that they bet on everything in sight, and then
you ask them their reasoning and they give it to you,
and you're just like, all right, here's what we're gonna
do from here on out. Okay, you're gonna give me
half the money and then I'm gonna give you the
other half back and so we both win. Really when
(06:23):
it comes down to this, because I mean, like I've
got like friends of mine, Like who are betting on
like European women's soccer And I'm like, you.
Speaker 1 (06:30):
Know nothing about them? Like what are you doing? Like
just take advantage of the drunkies and then go ahead
and cash in.
Speaker 5 (06:36):
Well, I mean that if you're ever at a table,
you know, at least for the table games, and you've
got somebody that's had one way too many blackjacket hurts you.
But like if you're like, say, you know, in the
poker room at any of these places, oh it's the best.
Speaker 1 (06:49):
I can't stomach anybody who doesn't know how to play blackjack,
especially when they're like six whiskeys deep.
Speaker 5 (06:54):
Well, we had like like I remember Matt, you and
Matt Thomas have that in common.
Speaker 1 (06:58):
We were in New Orleans first whisky's deep.
Speaker 4 (07:01):
But you get my point.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
We were in New Orleans, me and a buddy of
mine for Super Bowl this past year and we were
working on radio row and we sit down at a table
and we're hot. I mean I'm hitting twenties, he's hitting eighteen's.
The dealers break in every other every other hand, and
we're up like two point fifty. Guy sits down immediately
first hand twenty one. So We're like, okay, table's gonna
(07:23):
stay hot. Next hand, I have a soft seventeen. Jake
has an eighteen. This guy has a fourteen, and it's
not a face card up on the dealer's side. Hit
hit hit, he breaks, she flips, she hits twenty one.
It's like, at this point when we're giving you open advice,
you gotta realize in the game of poker, Damn, Matthews
(07:43):
and I are playing together as a team. We want
to break that dealer. Yeah, yeah, blackcha. We want to
break that dealer's soul. We want the casino to have
to feel like that they have to take on a
second mortgage, like we don't care that Caesar lived deer.
We want to make sure that we're walking away the
champions of the world. Like it's a team sport. No,
it's not. It's blackjack. Everyone plays it as single.
Speaker 6 (08:04):
No, you don't.
Speaker 1 (08:04):
You play to beat the dealer. That's always key number one.
And if you've had one too many and then you say, sorry, guys,
I had a little bit too much of the jack
Dale tonight, then go back up stairs, take a nap,
and come back down. Unless you're assessment a network, well,
I mean sometimes.
Speaker 5 (08:18):
I mean, it's not to say that it is confirmed,
but there's belief that there's the cooler that goes around
and you know, well they probably saw that and they said, hey,
table twenty seven right there, send him in. I mean,
that's you wonder if you know the William H. Macy movie,
if that's true with that. But the cooler, Oh that's
what it was.
Speaker 4 (08:38):
He was.
Speaker 5 (08:38):
He was a lifetime loser that the casino had hired
to go around like whenever there was a hot table,
and he would absolutely cool the table down.
Speaker 1 (08:46):
When you're playing with the actual casinos money, why not.
It's like it's no harm enough out for you, Like
especially if they're like, hey here's five grade, just blow
it here. You're just gonna get it back to us anymore.
Speaker 5 (08:56):
Hey, what was the saying, go those buildings in Vegas
are that big, furry, And it's because people like me
and you who go in there thinking, oh man, we're
going to take this place for everything we got. Then
you get on that sad flight home out of mccaren
and it's a tale as old as time when it
comes to going to Vegas. But the good news as
well on the softball front, how about Texas and Texas
Tech able to move on to the Women's College World
(09:18):
Series Finals, so they're gonna play for the national title
in softball as Tech able to end the run for Oklahoma.
I watched a little bit of that game. I did
not have a chance to see Texas and Tennessee. But
now you get an old going all the way back
to the Southwest Conference rivalry for a chance to say
that Texas is the capital of softball.
Speaker 1 (09:39):
I say, you can just go really old back to
last year when it was two big fall teams. That's
true together.
Speaker 4 (09:43):
Yeah, good one.
Speaker 1 (09:44):
That's another one. I was so impressed with the way
Carter pitch and I don't get I'm not going to
act like I know everything about softball, but she is
one of the pioneer faces of women's sports at NIL.
Have you seen what her package is out in Lubbock.
It's red. We're talking over six seven figures, we're talking
over five million dollars, and she is living up to it.
(10:07):
Because if she knocked out Patty Gusco, I mean like
she knocked off this dynasty of a team for the
last decade in the big twelve year one in the SEC.
People picking them to win the conference, people picking them
to win another national title. They have the backing of
Oklahoma City, which is literally just a hop skipping to
jump from Norman and she goes out there and dominates it.
(10:29):
And credit to Texas too for kind of putting them
in that loser's bracket where they were going to have
to win back to back games just for an opportunity
to get the rematch against Texas later on this week.
Speaker 5 (10:38):
Well, and I mean Oklahoma gets the two run homer
there in the seventh and then Tech able to walk
it off as I had already flipped over to had
the LSU Little Rock game, which Tiger fans, I'm sure
probably if you're up right now, you're feeling it this morning,
and I feel it with you. But for that game,
I saw that Tech had won because of Dallas Braden's
(11:03):
Instagram posts that he had because Dallas Braiden a proud
Texas Tech guy. Yeah, and he had posted the video
of the sacrifice fly for Texas Tech to be able
to walk it off and win it. And they're head
coach I think is like a national darling now, like
everybody loves this guy.
Speaker 1 (11:22):
Oh he looks like an old like seventy five year
old grandpa with just all the wisdom in the world.
Like he's one of those dudes you want to sit
down and get life lessons with on the stoop. Like
you ever see those nineteen eighty those eighty shows where
like you get that old white dude that sits in
the corner, he's like giving up good advice to all
the kids. That's this duke.
Speaker 4 (11:39):
So he's like Cliff claven.
Speaker 1 (11:41):
Sure, sure, I have no idea who that is. Rob.
Speaker 4 (11:43):
Pretend it was the mailman on cheers.
Speaker 5 (11:46):
All of the dated references that you could possibly have here,
we will try to deliver here as the morning goes along. Also,
where a couple of days removed ahead of the game
one of the NBA Finals. It's going to be a
Thursday and oh case between the Thunder and the Pacers.
I have not since the Rockets got eliminated, watched very
much playoff basketball, but I do think I am going
(12:09):
to again, barring Astros anything else. I mean, there's priority
viewing ahead of it. But if if I am unencumbered
to be able to watch this, then I'm I'm definitely
gonna watch this.
Speaker 1 (12:20):
I'm gonna pay attention to it, but I'm also gonna
be paying attention to what we got with the Eloilers
versus the Panthers in a rematch of last years Stanley
Cup playoffs. I'm sorry, You're gonna be one of the
fewer in the crowd in this city that will be
very excited whenever Connor McDavid gets a goal and I
get to watch Matthew Chuck give a body shot to
(12:42):
whoever is on the Oilers side. America versus Canada, a
pastime that we've all been waiting for.
Speaker 5 (12:47):
Yep, So he'll be watching that. We'll be watching the
NBA Finals, and also to the Texans back on the
OTA practice field today. Wait and see on CJ see
if that tight non my rowing shoulder is still a
bother for him. But we'll also see if even some
of the guys that weren't there last week are out
on the practice field. Joe Mixon wasn't there last week.
(13:10):
I gotta I actually got a question about that, because
it is you know, this is the thing that me
and Sean determined last week, and it was honestly, it
was it was my it was my determination and in
my proclamation to make is We're not doing deep dives
on OTA's in mini camp. That's a waste of time.
Speaker 1 (13:30):
After today, I will agree with you. I think going
into today seeing if CJ is back at even fifty.
Speaker 5 (13:36):
Storylines are a different thing. But like, for example, I'm
seeing things and everybody's got a job to do.
Speaker 1 (13:43):
I get it.
Speaker 5 (13:43):
I mean, you're you're in the content business when it
comes to the Texans, don't. I don't begrudge having to
put out that type of content this time of the
year because there are people who do consume it.
Speaker 4 (13:53):
I get it.
Speaker 5 (13:54):
But it's also like trying to read from the offensive
line or any other position battle out there. I mean, again,
I mentioned Joe Mixon. Wasn't there last week? Daneil Hunter, Like,
if I'm not mistaken, I think the only edge rusher
that was there last week that is of consequence was
Will Anderson Junior.
Speaker 1 (14:10):
Yeah, and he's going into a contract year, so naturally
he wants to do all the right things to be
able to add a little bit more value to the
dollars sign at the very end. So like that's kind
of expected. But I agree with you in a sense,
anybody who's trying to figure out what this offensive line
is going to be where number one, they don't have
shoulder pads, and number two they're not going up against
(14:32):
actual competition other than a few little shoves after what
is the initial point of emphasis of attack, you're not
gonna find out anything like cool tay ORSII is killing
it against the third team defensive end right now.
Speaker 4 (14:47):
They're in shorts, T shirts and helmets.
Speaker 1 (14:49):
I sure hope that he's looking decent against the guy
that's fighting for a roster shop when the Texans were
willing to trade up newly twenty spots against you, like
I genuinely would be a little concern if you're and
blown out the line of scrimmage by somebody who may
or may not be here in September. Well, here's hoping.
Speaker 5 (15:05):
So yeah, as I mentioned, you know, we've proclaimed that
no deep dives, but at least storylines we can at
least take a look into. So maybe we'll do that
as the show goes along. But you know the number
to get in if you don't, it's someone three two
one two five seven ninety against someone three two one
two five seven nine zero a chance for the Astros
(15:26):
to be able to pounce. We will talk about it,
right here as we're just getting started on a Tuesday
edition of The Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 6 (15:34):
Doctor Jeff witz It at Witsttvision dot com wh I
T s e t T the very best in the business.
Talk to those who've gone to the Lacy procedure like me,
or that get eye care from doctor whitst When you're
talking about your eyes pretty damn precious, right, so you
might want to maximize that and go visit with people
will tell you what I'll tell you. There's nobody better.
He is attention to detail. He'll treat your eyes like
(15:56):
he'd treat his own families or his own eyes, and
he'll walk you all the steps of lasik and the
post I care.
Speaker 1 (16:02):
It's non invasive.
Speaker 6 (16:02):
I wasn't on the table ten minutes and seeing better
than I had since the prime of my vision. So
for me, there's nobody better. It's doctor Jeff Witzet at
Witsit Vision dot com Again, w h I T S

they are precious, you want an expert, right. You don't
want to leave anything to chance, and you won't chance
anything but success with doctor Jeff Witzet. It's witsitvision dot com.
(16:24):
Witsitt vision dot com. That's wits it vision dot com.
Speaker 1 (16:29):
Let the celebration start.
Speaker 3 (16:31):
More, Sean Salisbury on Sports Talk seven ninetyll.
Speaker 5 (16:37):
This season, the Astros overall thirty two and twenty seven
with an expected win loss of thirty one twenty eight,
so performing two games better than the expected wins or
losses and complain about now, that means that the Astros
have been able to do what they weren't able to
do last year, and that's be able to come back
win games late, and you know, be able to hold
(16:59):
on to win that maybe you know, it looked like
for a time that it was going to get away
from them. But they're thirty two and twenty seven at
the moment this year. Against teams above five hundred, they're
twenty three and twenty one. Teams under five hundred, they're
nine and six. Even more, they're ten and fifteen on
the road this year, where they are ten games above
(17:19):
five hundred on the home floor. So you know, the
difference here is that the good news is you're facing
the third worst record in the National League in the
Pittsburgh Pirates.
Speaker 1 (17:32):
Yes it is Paul Skians.
Speaker 5 (17:33):
Tonight but as Gordy pointed out last night, as a
matter of fact, they're the second worst record. But you
get my point, waiting baseball or just the National that
National League gotcham Yeah, yeah, no, because I mean, thank
god you have the Rockies.
Speaker 1 (17:46):
There's no way that they're worse than the White Sox
in just baseball in general.
Speaker 5 (17:50):
They I think overall, in all of baseball they are
tied right now for the third worst US say third.
Speaker 1 (17:57):
Or fourth a base five. They stink, they're off and
I put a little bit of money on them to
act speak better this year. So congratulations, I got lost
already a manager and lost a lot of money in
my bank accounts. So whatever, let's go. Come on, Paul Skins.
Speaker 5 (18:09):
Yeah, the Pirates are twenty two and thirty eight on
the season, and the Astros trying to be able to
take advantage of this soft part of the schedule, because
it's really what it comes down to in games like this,
you want to be able to find your way into
not only getting past the Mariners, but also being able
to get way ahead of the Mariners. Well, this is
(18:32):
a way that you can do it is being able
to take advantage of series like this and maybe even
being able to steal one to night, because I feel like,
you steal one tonight, you feel really good about the
rest of the series, even though your pitching is not
necessarily in the best shape right now.
Speaker 1 (18:45):
You steal want tonight. How do you feel about getting
the sweep gone into Wednesday and Thursday?
Speaker 4 (18:49):
Oh, I mean I think that.
Speaker 5 (18:51):
I mean, Gusto is obviously a wild card and all
of this because I mean his starts that he's gone
out there, he's not been able to get past the
fifth inning, So that means you gotta rely on the
bullpen in the middle part.
Speaker 1 (19:02):
Of the bullpen at least.
Speaker 5 (19:04):
Has shaken my confidence in them after the last series,
even though Steve Sparks said he is not shaken by
what he saw in the last series.
Speaker 7 (19:12):
I'm not.
Speaker 1 (19:13):
I'm still in a belief of, yes, you had your moments,
but also sometimes teams just have your goose like that's
just it. And Tampa is one of these rosters that
it doesn't matter where they play, it doesn't matter what
the overall record is in the division. They seem to
play their best against competition that is viewed in the
(19:36):
public eye as a threat to win a World Series.
And this has been a case underneath Kevin Cash for years,
like they always over exceed expectations. They have the third
lowest payroll in baseball, yet you look at the standings,
they're above Boston, They're above Toronto, they're above of Baltimore.
All three teams that either spent money, have really good
(19:59):
young cores in play or were expected to compete for
a pennant, whether it be just an American League East
one or one at the entire level in the American
League and overthrow the Astros, Like this is the way
that we view them. But yet here they are every
single year finding a way to get ten games above
five hundred, make it to the wild Card round, and
then once they get to October, they find a way
to craft the bed. But that's kind of expected when
(20:20):
you look at the payroll of what they have on
their roster and who they're trusting to kind of get
them a win in the sixth inning. But like, you
have a bad game against a Tampa Bay Rays team
that has been known for being able to hold its
own in these type of matchups, I don't worry right now.
I actually really spark on this one. Like Brian King,
he responded after that bad performance earlier in the week,
(20:43):
you know you're going to have the trust that Caleb
Ward is going to get better and that it was
just a fluke that Steven Oker, that one bad ending
in a game that was already so far out of reach.
That's gonna get better. Like Forrest Whitley, I understand. Let
let's let's put him on the bench, Let's not go
to him if we don't have to. Let's take a breather,
let him get acclimated coming off of the il, and
(21:04):
then we can have a conversation of what is the
long term plan. If a week from now, after you
come back home from playing against Pittsburgh and Cleveland, he
still is having these struggles. But I'm not worried about
the bullpen right now. They've been lights out against basically
everybody besides two teams all year. It can happening again
in PNC Park.
Speaker 5 (21:22):
Well, and that's what you're hoping to be able to do,
because Tonight has mentioned Paul Skeen's going at the last
five times out, he has pitched at least a quality
outing of six innings. The most earned runs he's given
up in the game this year was all the way
back on April the eighth to five against the Saint
Louis Cardinals. But also in this five game stretch that
he's on, he's one to two, including losing like Hunter
(21:44):
Brown did to the Rangers, won the nothing to the Phillies,
and then.
Speaker 1 (21:47):
You talk about okay, So like you win to night
Skame against Paul Skeins, you steal and win in the
way that they would say against one of baseball's best pitchers.
You're going up against a guy tomorrow in Burrows who
has an eight, six or fourty. You're going up against Mitch
Keller on Thursday. He has a three seventy three e.
He's been really well. He's actually been one of the
(22:07):
more qualified pitchers in my opinion. He's like the Luis
Severino of the National League, where the numbers don't justify
how well he's been pitching. He is a one and
seven record. What does that say His offense can't bail
him out of trouble when he gives it the long
ball and it's the solo shot. When he has runners
in scoring position and he gives it that single. You
don't have an ONEO cruise driving in runs or an
(22:29):
Andrew McCutcheon or a Brian Reynolds or an ikf You
don't have that guy, and who's on your sign from
ber Valdez and so as of Black right now, over
the last month, we haven't gotten good fromber Dan. We've
gotten great fromber and if that continues on the road,
I mean, this is the game that you just got
to be able to hold your own at least and
(22:49):
take it to the bullpen, like get two runs, have
Lance mccullors, give you five strong trust that your bullpen
can kind of put this Pirates team that is one
of the worst with hitting and runners in scoring position
in this year in trouble going into the seventh inning.
And then eventually once you get Skins out of the game,
let al tuo ve la paying. You'll let somebody else
go ahead and launch one. Est oc Paradas come back
(23:10):
in a two run blast of PNC Park and you
walk away with a dub like you don't even have
to get to schemes. You just got to stay in
contention as long as scheins.
Speaker 5 (23:16):
On the mountain well and then also relies too on
Lance mccullor Junior, who I mean you last time out,
he gave you his best start that he had had.
I mean, I think the last time he had gone
a quality outing was October of twenty twenty two. Was
the last time that that happened, because I mean, remember,
missed all twenty three, missed all of last year and
back this year, and I mean, you've been able to
(23:39):
get for the most part, the red start not included.
You've been able to get decent stuff out of him.
You just hope that the longevity is there. Like I said,
you know, after his last outing, the six innings, I
was like, that's pretty much what you were getting out
of Renel Blanco. If you can get that, then you
can be able to cancel out that loss for the
time being.
Speaker 1 (24:00):
I think I was filling in the time the last
time we saw him, and it was it wasn't the
most complete game, but it was one of those I'll
take that kind of games. Twelve strikeouts, six I will take.
I'll take the six innings. I'll take the six innings,
six strikeouts through yourn run. Well, everyone will, because if
at least you're not going to your bullpen at the
point of where you know the next day, Gusto comes
(24:23):
on the mound, or if it was God forbid for ambravadez.
Now they have to go seven, and now you're limited
with your arms, and now you're limited with your pitch count,
with your bullpen, like, I'll take that version. Give me
that tonight. Give me six, give me six strikeouts, give
me six hits a lot like, Yeah, the devil's number
is coming up, but I'm okay with that. So long
as you walk away with your bullpen's not having to
(24:44):
be used in the fourth inning, I'll take that ten
times out ten.
Speaker 5 (24:46):
Yeah, here's hoping the Lance McCullers can be able to
hold his zone the night against Paul Skien says, we'll
have that game for you right here on Sports Talk
seven to ninety coming your way. You guys will be
handling the pregame there at thirty. Boy, Matt Thomas is
just gonna have a field day with you guys today,
isn't he? Probably, mister, I'm fine everything. When you got
(25:07):
you guys were talking about that yesterday and I couldn't
stop laughing because it is well.
Speaker 8 (25:12):
No.
Speaker 5 (25:12):
I went into the green room and Matt was eating
tacos from a place and I go, oh man, those
tacos look good.
Speaker 1 (25:19):
And he goes, yeah, they're fine. It is Yeah, it's fine.
Speaker 5 (25:22):
It's like that's every single one of his answers is
always that that's fine. I'm like, like, do you love anything, Like,
do you have any enjoyment in anything?
Speaker 1 (25:31):
No, he's a middle aged man and he's a middle
aged man working middays.
Speaker 5 (25:35):
No, he is definitely like it's fine. He's Larry David
is really who he is. I mean, he's a huge
fan of Larry David and he's become Larry David. It's
it's not even become he is him like that, it's
it's who he is in his DNA.
Speaker 1 (25:47):
Have I asked you what's a better show, kerber Seinfeld? No,
you haven't what's the better show, cerber Seinfeld because everyone
else seems.
Speaker 5 (25:56):
To be on the same page a pound pound for pound,
it's Seinfeld. But but I mean Curb was incredibly great
because because it was Seinfeld. I mean, it was everything,
Like it was the themes, Like every single Seinfeld episode
had a theme.
Speaker 1 (26:11):
You know what Curb was to me? It was all
the jokes that even that Jerry and him couldn't put
on air because it was it was a public broadcasting.
It was that now on HBO.
Speaker 5 (26:19):
See and that's the funny thing is too and maybe
we can continue this, you know, as the show goes along.
But like everybody, oh, you know, would love to have
a Seinfeld reunion, would love to have a Seinfeld reunion.
In my response was exactly that, dude, just watch Curb.
You're getting the same thing. You're gonna get cameos. I mean,
it's the guy who wrote it, and he's doing it
the exact same way. It's just on a different coast
(26:41):
and it's a different person.
Speaker 1 (26:42):
Maybe Kramer won't be there, but everyone else to got
a show on up Raine, Jerry, you're all good.
Speaker 5 (26:47):
Besides that, I think Michael Richards probably wore out as
welcome with that one. But anyway, continue in the Astros
conversation seven one three, two one two five seven ninety.
Dare I say this is Lance mccullor's biggest start of
his career tonight? Yep, do it out there, we'll talk
about it. It is Sean Salisbury Show, Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 1 (27:08):
The Shawn Salisbury Show continued.
Speaker 5 (27:12):
You know, one guy had caught a touchdown and I
was like, I can't I can't wait until somebody tweets
that after practice and said, oh yeah, hey, this guy
looked great.
Speaker 1 (27:19):
No, here's the thing. You knew that textan social was
going to come out with the clip. So there's the
moment where everyone goes, can't wait until Sundays he makes
that play in the preseps.
Speaker 5 (27:33):
Let me let me tell you it is because I mean,
you know, I don't want to talk too much out
of school here, but you know, because I don't want
to have the handslap for mentioning things that were when
cameras and everything weren't out, So I won't do that.
But let's just say, if this player is making said
play on Sundays, you're in bad shape.
Speaker 1 (27:50):
Yeah, that you are literally at the bottom of the
barrel of one position that you can't afford to be
out right now.
Speaker 5 (27:56):
And that's what they were last year, and that's part
of why they all themselves go the way they did
in twenty twenty four. Astros back in action tonight taking
on the Pirates in Pittsburgh four point thirty Astros on
deck coming your way right here on Sports Talk seven
ninety HPD says a drunk, frustrated overseas gambler was behind
the lance mccullor's junior death threats and Texas and Texas
(28:19):
Tech gonna play for the Women's College World Series title tomorrow.
Someone three two, one, two, five, seven ninety is the
number to get in.
Speaker 1 (28:26):
Now what I'd.
Speaker 5 (28:28):
Said before the break about it's because junior interesting enough.
I mean, obviously, you know, you probably have people out
there as soon as they heard that, they're like, well,
wait a minute, what was Game seven and twenty seventeen
out in LA. Yes, obviously the magnitude was massive, and
what ended up happening made it even you know, more amplified.
(28:48):
But you mean, you know, in that one too, I
didn't necessarily feel like you were looking for longevity out
of Lance. I felt like you were just looking for
a good, you know, starting base to be able to
go with, and then you had Charlie Morton to be
able to you know, rack things up there at the end,
and he was able to do that. But in terms
of Lance's overall career, because what are we.
Speaker 4 (29:07):
Looking for out of Lance?
Speaker 5 (29:08):
We're looking for the other shoe to not drop when
it comes to injuries. And it's also too I remember
back to what Jospotas said after that start on Wednesday
afternoon against the A's, where he said, you know, now
we got to see how he bounces back from this,
because he hadn't thrown six innings in a while, and
he hadn't thrown that many pitches in a while. So
you got to be able to see how he is
able to bounce back and be able to go forward
(29:31):
from that. So That's where I'm coming at it from,
is that you want to be able to see is
Lance mccullors somebody that could be counted on? And I
think tonight goes a long way towards proving yes or
no in answering that question.
Speaker 1 (29:44):
Three hits his first game back, three hits his next
game back, now seven in runs, but still three hits,
four hits, five hits, five hits. This was against an
Athletics team, a Texas team that has been underwhelming, a
White Sox team it has been very much the exact
same of what we expected this year, and a Cincinnati
team that's been hot and cold. They were hot when
(30:05):
they keep faced off against you. This is not a
good Pirates team. There is literally one person that I
worry about in this lineup, and he has batt in
a buck fifty eight in the month of May. He
was awful. Now he's starting to turn the corner. Brian
Rends had a good kind of close out last week.
But that's the only guy that you worry about. Can
you be that middle ground guy? Can you give me
(30:27):
four point one innings? Was what you got last time out?
Before the six inning with twelve strikeouts, Can you give
me five? Split the strikeouts in half, limit the walks.
Get your pitch count up. Can you give me anywhere
around eighty five to ninety five pitches? Can you work
counts in your favor? Can you keep runners off the
base path? Can you win advantages to where you're getting
pop flies and it's landing in Cansmith's glove or it's
(30:49):
landing in now Jacob Meltain's clove and you're walking back
to the dugout and you're feeling like that everything is
going to be fine. Can you give me that again?
This is not a team that you have to be
worried about on and the production backs it up as well,
that you shouldn't be work. They fired their manager Dan
after starting off with twelve wins. I mean, like, this
is not a team that's being competitive you should be
(31:11):
able to feel confident going into another opponent's ballpark and
have the opportunity to get your bullpen kind of not
even a day off, but just a little bit of
breathing room. It's not the third ending and you're like, hey,
start warming up, start stretching. It's the fifth ending, and
now we're starting to have that conversation. Maybe he goes
out for the start of the sixth inning and he
gives up a hit, and then you go, okay, Brian
(31:31):
King starts stretching. That's why I wassey in this game,
because this is not a good offense. This is a
terrible offense when it comes to hitting with their arsons,
scoring position, they're terrible when it comes to working counts
in their favor. They're swinging and missing. One of the
more often teams in the league this year. Can you
give me that and can you just give me that
balance of Lance? Right now? Five starts what we have
(31:51):
to go off of three point two point oh one, four,
four point one, six point zero, give me in the middle, five,
give me five quality start walk out of there. I
feel really good about Lance mccaller's as your number three,
and it also allows you to kind of pivot. And
we've had this conversation before when I filled in what
do you do with the trade deadline? What do you
(32:12):
want to give up? Knowing that Lance can be your
Ronell two point zero for the rest of this season
kind of allows you to say, this is what we're
willing to spend on the market before July gets wrong.
Speaker 5 (32:23):
Well, and it's also too, I mean, the wild card
and all of this is what do you get out
of Spencer Urghetti when he gets bash Because I mean
you're probably about a month month and a half away
from seeing him back. If he's able to be what
he has been, then you feel pretty good about exactly
as you mentioned, I mean, when you go to the deadline,
you know, being more of a selective shopper as opposed
to going into it in desperation mode.
Speaker 1 (32:46):
So what is the overall worst thing that could happen?
And I'm not saying point one ending seven earned runs,
but what's the worst kind of situation for Lance night tonight?
Speaker 5 (32:54):
Yeah, pretty much what you just said are out there
that would be it? Like where it's just you know,
the walks, the hit batsmen, those are problems. You know,
you start to do that, then you start to get
some fielders flat footed, so maybe some errors start to
creep in and it extends innings things like that.
Speaker 4 (33:08):
That's the I mean, the walks are going to be there.
Speaker 5 (33:10):
You know that He's going to have a handful of
them at every single start. It's just it's the blessing
and the curse with his stuff. But you also would
love to see the swings and misses and being able
to cut down on innings because you are able to
get said swings and misses.
Speaker 1 (33:25):
Well, I mean, think about it. Last game he had
one walk against twelve strikeouts. Game before that eight strikeouts
against three walks. I'll take the ladder. Like, my biggest fear,
especially in this game, is that you give up a
leadoff walk and Brian Roonins gets to play with one
out and it's a two run shot and you're down
in a three to zero hole and your offense can't
get going. So that what you at the wonder is
(33:45):
can he give you enough innings? Can he eat up
enough pitches to where by the time that you get
to your bullpen, your offense maybe is warmed up. Going
through Paul Skiing to the first through the second round like,
that's my fear in this game is that schemes will
be lights out and you can't counteract that. So even
though it maybe another one run ball game like we
saw on Sunday, it's a one run where now you're
(34:07):
down and out of the count against a team that
probably shouldn't even be in the running to begin with.
Speaker 5 (34:10):
Ashows have been in plenty of those this year, so
probably not too much to expect that tonight's going to
be any different. But you, as I mentioned, four point
thirty Astros on deck coming your way here to get
you ready for the Astros.
Speaker 4 (34:22):
And the Pirates tonight.
Speaker 5 (34:24):
Jacob Melton, we got to see a little bit of
him on Sunday. What are the exact expectations of the
left handed outfielder.
Speaker 4 (34:31):
We'll talk about it right here.
Speaker 5 (34:32):
It is a Sean Salisbury Show, Sports Talk seven to ninety.
Speaker 1 (34:37):
You're back, This is the Sean Salisbury Show. Get back
at it.
Speaker 5 (34:42):
Jacob Melton mentioned him. Got to see him out in
center field on Sunday. It's an infield single that sorry
Tampa replay shows that he was safe and able to
get his first major league hit. But this is a
guy that we'd heard about for a long time. Injuries,
some struggles down in the minor leagues, different things had
kind of kept him from getting up here a little
(35:02):
bit sooner. But you finally get to see him now
you start to wonder, is he somebody that can make
an impact for this team or is he gonna be
Joey Loperffito two.
Speaker 4 (35:11):
Point out see And that's exactly where I was going.
Speaker 9 (35:14):
That is that?
Speaker 5 (35:15):
I mean, if there are expectations to think that you
were getting out of this guy, I mean, just looking
at what he was able to do at the minor
league level, I get it. Like I said, injuries are
a part of it, but that is also part of
your story. I mean, I almost feel like you're getting
exactly as you just said, You're getting Joey Loperfito again,
which means that he'll probably be traded at the Dome.
Speaker 1 (35:35):
That's what I was getting at. Is more so is
he coming up here as the audition because of you
know that Chas McCormick is trade value is at a low.
You're not gonna get anything in return for him because
of what you've seen from him at the major league level.
But Melton, who despite dealing with injuries, was viewed as
a highly touted prospect at one point was a top
seventy prospect and MiLB pipeline rankings. Is one of your
(36:00):
better players when it comes to the minor league system
and you know that you're still in that win now territory,
like like that's what it comes down to. Would I
love to see Jacob Meltain prove that he is an
everyday left fielder or that he can contribute in center
to where it's a good backup behind Jake Myers. Yeah,
I mean, nobody's gonna be complaining about that, and you
(36:20):
have an opportunity to make the most of your time
to where maybe the conversation switch and we're not talking
about him being Joey Loberfido, but Zach Desenzo is Joey Loberfido,
where he's the one that's on the move. Because if
you like that he is a little bit more polished
as a defender, you like that he adds more contact.
You can kind of move him around the lineup, whether
it be in the two hole some days, the six
hole some days, the eight hole some days, and you
(36:42):
have him and Cam Smith and he's a natural outfielder
and not an infielder the exact same way that low
Berfido was coming out of Dupe when he was get
when he got drafted. Like like, maybe that's what it is.
I'm not going into this series against Pittsburgh and this
weekend against Cleveland and saying, Hey, Melton's guy who X,
Y and Z to guarantee he's on a roster spot.
(37:03):
You dealt with a ton of injuries. Somebody has to
make the act a twenty six man. He was next
in line. Let's see what he's got. Like, Honestly, I'm
more at this point saying camp Smith, you've been here
for sixty games. Now it's time for you to kind
of take that next step forward because the guy below you,
we're gonna hit and re set on him. He gets
(37:23):
a little bit of like that that cushion area of
you strike out with roars and scoring position. That's the
biggest deal. Cam You've seen over three hundred pitches. You
at this point, Mary know what's swing at?
Speaker 4 (37:34):
What's John Well? I mean?
Speaker 5 (37:35):
And that's the funny thing is too, is you know
I know that you guys replaced Steve Sparks on the
Afternoon Show and one of the things he talked about
that was pretty funny to think about was that the
veteran voice in the outfield on Sunday was camp Smith,
Like that. That is a weird place to get too
mentally to realize, oh, yeah, you know what, he is
(37:57):
probably the most experienced guy out there, at least when
the ball goes to the right side of second day.
Speaker 1 (38:02):
The guy who currently is entering his sixtieth game playing
the position at a major league level in this time
last year was in the Super Regionals for the College
World Series. Is your veteran outfielder? How does that work,
Dan Dodgers, Well.
Speaker 5 (38:16):
It works offensively, is what it did, Because I mean
that was what always cracked me up to with jose
L TV out in left field, it's going to be
a disastrous said perhaps, but that's he's not out in
left field because of his glove about left field for
that reason.
Speaker 1 (38:29):
Too, you're like, hey, hey, he's a left fielder. That's
this barbar throw him out.
Speaker 5 (38:32):
But here's the thing that also comes into play is
we talked about yesterday Brendan Rodgers. Brendan Rodgers has now
offensively become I cannot count on him right like he's
He's just he's not going to be somebody that I'm
going to look to be able to do anything of
consequence at the plate. He's a late eating defensive replacement
right now. Okay, fine, you can still have that, But
(38:53):
are we going to see less jose l Twove out
in left field while Jacob Melton is here? Because my
contention is he's here, you play them.
Speaker 1 (39:01):
Yeah, you play him, but also Mauricio Dubon in the
nine hole and how he's been swinging the bat recently.
I don't know if you can keep out of line
with that much.
Speaker 5 (39:07):
Well, but then also the beauty of Jordan being out,
which it's weird to think about it that way because
it's never a beautiful thing that bored on out Dan,
But I mean you free up the DH spots, so
I mean there's there's a few more chances for Jose
to be able to play there because you do want
to have Jake Myers out in center field. You do
want to be able to have that option available to you.
(39:28):
And while you don't have Chaz or Zach Dezenzo, well,
then those options are a plenty for you because you
almost have no choice.
Speaker 1 (39:35):
Can you imagine, like five years ago telling yourself that
jose Al Tove as a full time designated hitter for
a week was going to be a possibility.
Speaker 5 (39:42):
Defensively, probably not, but that's my thing. Yeah, I mean,
it's just again, you know, it's one of those that
you hit, they'll find a place for you. And that's
what jose Al Twove has done all throughout his careers.
So of course you find a way to be able
to make it work. And that's what they decided to
do this year with him. Man, just the way that.
Speaker 1 (39:59):
He swings the bat and the way that I've always
known him, especially because of the defense has fallen off. Naturally,
you can't take him out of the lineup. But it's
always weird when I see a guy that is known
for hitting doubles, better contact hitter, has a little bit
of power to him. He's your designated hitter. I get
the reason behind him, but I think designated hitter, I'm
thinking four hundred and fifty long balls to left field,
(40:19):
Like that's what I think of that position, all right.
Speaker 5 (40:22):
So I know that we dove into the jord On
injury stuff a lot yesterday. We're not gonna dive too
deep into it in today's show. But I do think
that there is something that could have resounding consequences for
this club going forward. So we'll talk about that. Startup
hour number two of the Sean Salisbury Show. Sports Talk
seven ninetyond.
Speaker 1 (40:43):
To Houston, an Ihard radio station, The Rocket. Sports Talk
seven ninety your home for your home.
Speaker 10 (40:52):
Teams from the Parsons that Matchine next studios say.
Speaker 1 (41:05):
Okay, let's do this.
Speaker 2 (41:06):
Sewn Salisbury to USC Troupe's longtime friend Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 3 (41:12):
Dan Matthews US. This is the Sewan Salisbury Show.
Speaker 5 (41:21):
Houston Poyee say, a drunk frustrated overseas gambler was behind
the Lance mccullors junior family death threats and the Texans
back on the field for ot AS a little bit
later on this morning, as Cole will be hanging out
with us until nine and then Gordon Tron gonna be
in with us from nine until ten. I had my
(41:42):
hands slapped a little bit with that last week by Gordy.
He was like, You're you're still gonna try to make
this thing happen, Huh? I said, yeah, one way or another.
Speaker 1 (41:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (41:50):
So I've already determined that he's not gonna know when,
but I am going to hit him with it this morning, and.
Speaker 1 (41:55):
If he answers, you're gonna actually start going with it.
Speaker 4 (41:57):
There you go.
Speaker 5 (41:57):
Yeah yeah, So, I mean you just you have to
have the element of surprise, which seven o two after
waking up with us early yesterday, he might not be listening.
But even if he has the warning again, I mean,
you can give the warning. You can know that we
have that play. It's why football teams watch film.
Speaker 1 (42:14):
You know that it's there. It's like the first day
that I came in filled in with you, I knew
you were gonna make some type of joke that was
gonna throw me off my radar. I didn't know what
it was going to happen. I fell for it.
Speaker 5 (42:22):
No, I mean, that's that's exactly it. I mean, you've
got to know that the plays are there. It's just
I'm not going to run it in the first ten
scripted plays. That's that's the thing.
Speaker 1 (42:30):
Okay, Can I ask you something because this has been
on my mind for like literally the last weeks.
Speaker 4 (42:34):
Do it's a talk shows?
Speaker 1 (42:35):
What we do? We were talking off air about LSU
getting a win last night over a little rock. They're
going to the supers and yeah, stayed up till midnight
watching it, so that was cool. I didn't. I was like, nope,
just did eight hours of work.
Speaker 4 (42:47):
Yeah it was.
Speaker 1 (42:48):
It was nice for it. See And this is the thing.
Speaker 5 (42:50):
And I tweeted back at Peter Burns of course SEC network,
he's an LSU guy too, and I tweeted back at
him as I said, go figure that two of my
baseball loves both cannot hit with runners in scoring position
unless your name is Ethan Frye.
Speaker 1 (43:06):
Right, but they're playing West Virginia in the super Regionals. Yeah,
so I have to ask this and Triple le can
probably answer this as well because of maybe this is
my younger brain working. Who is the greatest player to
wear number one in college football? In Yeah he got me?
Go ahead, Tamon Austin, Okay, Tava. That mixtape still to
(43:28):
this day is one of the single greatest highlight RELs
I will watch on the regular ones. No, you're right,
I'm not a real one. I don't care. I got
hell and back playing blasting with a guy is the
do it all playmaker on a West Virginia team that
was so underrated at the time with Gino Smith with
Steve Slayton, that team could have won a national title
(43:50):
of not for one dang play. I'm sorry, Like that's
just been on my brain since did you talked about
West Virginia every single time it gets brought up.
Speaker 5 (43:58):
I'm like Tavon Austin highlight tape, Paul YouTube, look it up.
Kid was a baller. I mean people thought that baby gronk.
You know, No, No, that kid's a clown.
Speaker 4 (44:06):
His dad is.
Speaker 1 (44:07):
At least I'm not gonna go after the kid. He's
never gonna make it. Like, I don't think he will
play a single down in con.
Speaker 5 (44:13):
What you mean like his dad who's like five six
and like one hundred and fifty pounds, that all of
a sudden, the Sun's gonna become this monstrosity of an athlete.
Speaker 1 (44:20):
Yeah, shocking. I thought it was actually five to three
and like maybe one hundred and mine.
Speaker 5 (44:25):
It doesn't matter. The point is is that it's not
going to happen. It's a nice little story for being
seven years old that you're a little bigger than everybody else.
But the problem is is when you're that size, when
you're seven years old, well guess what everybody else grows
and you don't.
Speaker 2 (44:40):
True.
Speaker 1 (44:40):
I mean, but what okay, my megining is he's just
not gonna love football anymore because of how much his
dad has made it a joke that every single school
is offering him. Well, not a single one is actually
doing it, Like whoever Cody Paul is, which I'm I'll
watch his YouTube highlight during the commercial break configure in.
Speaker 5 (44:55):
Two thousand and six. Man, that kid ruled Pop one
or look it up, I'm telling you. And uh, I
think guy even like one night as one of those
before going to bed, just you know, rabbit holes. I
was like, all right, hey, whatever happened to that kid?
I think he ended up playing like D three football somewhere.
Like it's almost kind of like remember Sam McGuffey, Yes here,
like shout out Sam McGuffey.
Speaker 4 (45:13):
But I mean he had you know, the.
Speaker 5 (45:15):
He did the saquon before squ yeah of hurtling over.
Speaker 1 (45:19):
So you also see the clip of him doing it
for the cover.
Speaker 5 (45:22):
Yeah, And like I love like how people are like
upset that he had you know whatever you call like
the the suspending line like be able to pick him
up whatever you call those.
Speaker 1 (45:32):
Wait, so he did have a suspending line on them
yeah he did. Oh I didn't think he did. Yeah,
I thought he just leaped again.
Speaker 10 (45:37):
That was my thing.
Speaker 1 (45:38):
I was like, is he really doing this a second
time in the off season, knowing what the Madden curse is, Like,
you're really gonna risk it before you even take the field?
Speaker 5 (45:48):
Well, I was gonna say, I mean, you know, you
want to be able to have that suspension with you
or you could possibly run the risk of taking a
face mask and a helmet right to the tailbone.
Speaker 1 (45:56):
Well, of course, But like, honestly, I thought he was
doing it a second time because and look like I
could see the wires on that one. Also, I'm a
little annoyed that they didn't throw the actual player who
got hurtled, Like, it's just a blank it's a black out.
Speaker 5 (46:08):
Why would he want to sign up for that? Was
then used the actual photo of the game. I mean,
I'm sure that guy probably had enough of it in
the locker room.
Speaker 1 (46:19):
Oh yeah, I'm not saying no, I'm saying, don't even
do the stunt. Just use the photo in the game.
That's what I'm saying about. Okay, I got you, Like,
I went to high school with this one kid who
ended up making it to the NFL. Who's on the
practice squad for I think three years with Detroit. It
was a bunch of injuries started stockpile up. He plays cornerback,
he gets on the field. His picture on Twitter to
(46:39):
this day is still him getting molly wotted by Derrick
Henry face mask full down into the dirt. Because if
he made the NFL, like you broke a part of history.
Speaker 4 (46:49):
You got to be known for something like that.
Speaker 5 (46:51):
Was one of our senior pranks that we did at
Saint Thomas is our former basketball coach, Matt Gotch was
the he played college basketball at another Dame. Seven foot
tall guy, so I mean you couldn't miss him.
Speaker 1 (47:05):
Got your guy.
Speaker 5 (47:05):
Well, one of Alan Iverson's one of Alan iverson no
I heard it, one of Alan Iverson's rookie cards was
him dunking on coach Gotch. So somebody had blown it
up and we had like pronounced like you know, door
sills to be able to get in the classrooms. Because
it's Saint Thomas, I mean we've been there since almost
you know, the birth of man, and it's an old
(47:27):
school building, so they had put it in the entrance
to get into his classroom. So he had to like
almost like a football team, like going through the butcher paper.
He had to be able to like claw it down
and then go in. He claims that he blocked it,
but still, I mean, even if you didn't block it,
it's like, dude, the answer dunked on you.
Speaker 4 (47:45):
It's okay, it's fine.
Speaker 1 (47:46):
Well, it's like I'm on a poster still, like that's
the word that I viewing his. Hey, my face is
on the poster. Guess who is it? My teammate that's
sitting over there that now is working on a nine
to five job at Wendy. He's not doing anything. I'm
on the poster that's hanging up in kids and a
kids bedroom at night.
Speaker 5 (48:00):
Well here's the thing though, too, that'd be interesting if
a kids still had that. But you know, it's it's
one of those that I was like, you better not
have any of the guys on the team. That it
gets back to it that he's he's doing the clowning
because it's like, well, number one, I played where you
want to get to. But number two all right, fine,
you know you want to you want to be able
to have me show you who the the the old
(48:22):
war horse is and can still make some plays. Oh,
I can still make some plays. That's the thing too.
Like a buddy mine would tell me, like sometimes he
would get in on like five on five's, And of course,
I mean he's a seven foot guy, like our tallest
guy is probably like six' four at that, point bodying guys,
up you, know and trying, trying trying to be able
to you, know relive those those old days right. THERE i,
(48:42):
mean you haven't lived until you've you, know had a
seven foot guy on the basketball floor showing you, yeah,
hey it's a little different the LEVEL i played.
Speaker 1 (48:50):
In, Okay like you know, Him Mark, titus he works For,
barstool like like he, is he was a terrible basketball
player At Ohio. State for the standard of he was
on A nash championship he was.
Speaker 5 (49:01):
Pretty Much Doug, gottlieb just actually more like well actually, no,
no he's not like more.
Speaker 4 (49:05):
Likable is? Likable let's just go with is likeable that.
Speaker 1 (49:08):
Standpoint but it's like you have to, realize even as
a bench player at A big ten school on a
national championship caliber, team you made it to that. Level
so when somebody wants to dog on you for having
a crap take and, that, oh you're nothing more than
a washed up basketball player that couldn't make it to THE.
NBA i made it to the second highest level as
(49:30):
a walk on at a school that featured the number
one overall. Pick like there's some value to, Say, Yeah
i'm on the bad side of a play that's in
that altered, history BUT i made it.
Speaker 11 (49:42):
That.
Speaker 5 (49:42):
See it's like almost, like let's just take Like princeton for,
Example like some of these guys that whatever you, Know
New York city has that's like an equivalent of the
met downtown here where they do get some pickup games.
There but imagine like there's a guy who might be
a couple of pounds, overweight now receding, hairline all of,
that and you have somebody on the. Floor it's, like,
OH i got this. Guy it's no. Problem he's sitting
(50:04):
step backs on, you he's driving you to the, lane
he's bodying you, up like doing all of those things
to basically humiliate you at that. Point and then, it you,
know comes to find out a little bit, Later oh, yeah,
no hey he was on That princeton. Team, Dude, no
he like he's he's still that. Guy perrent, example what
was his, Name Doug?
Speaker 1 (50:20):
Eddie is that? Was was that it For Saint peter's
a couple of years? Ago? Yeah, yeah mustache. Dude like
he's gonna be working some nine to five job as
a four oh one k investment. Baker he'll go to
a court at THE ymca and he'll drop fifty a
night against, somebody and everyone's gonna be, like who the
heck is this? Dude because he shaved the mustache and
he grew up. Beard it's, like, oh That's Saint peter's
(50:41):
kid that nearly got to The final. Four i'm playing
against him in my rec league.
Speaker 4 (50:45):
Pickup that's WHY i always love pros Versus joe's.
Speaker 5 (50:48):
Is you, know it cracks me up of especially like,
baseball BECAUSE i, mean we all grew up with these
guys where some of these guys then end up going
to play competitiveness, softball showing up with their, bats you,
know on their, bags all, that all those different types of,
things and like you, know they'd FACE i don't, Know
Brett saberhagen or SOMEBODY i just thrown out a name,
Here Jason. Wirf but BUT i, mean, LIKE i, mean
(51:09):
that's a good. Example you've seen the video of that
of him and that adult men's. League it's and it's
just like it was like such an effortless swing and
he just sends one four.
Speaker 4 (51:18):
Fifty that guys are.
Speaker 1 (51:20):
Good, well he went over too in the very beginning
of that, game and so he had two pop flies
and it's, like, oh this guy's slow playing.
Speaker 4 (51:26):
Him he, was he was doing The Greg Maddic.
Speaker 1 (51:27):
No somebody said the from the someone said from from
behind the base that was like a fan washed understood
why The nats cut. Him and then next pitch, boom
four hundred feet out of the. Park he doesn't even
take off his, cleats just gets his cars drive.
Speaker 5 (51:42):
Home you got to remind people sometimes that's what it.
Is you got the, skills show people you still got.
It that's what it comes down.
Speaker 1 (51:49):
To IF i was in slow, pitch stop on hit
a grand slam to walk it, OFF i would never
play another. Game that would be my. Legacy i'm sorry
because like you see the fields that you play. On
it Like i'm five foot, NOTHING i don't have a
lot Of i'm known for a contact. Hitter i'm not
gonna be hitting dingers fifty five thousand feet in the.
Year LIKE i played on a competitive softball. TEAM i
(52:10):
was a singles. Fan like that's WHAT i. WAS i
had A Grand slam game over never playing. Again, sorry,
team you don't need me next.
Speaker 5 (52:17):
WEEK i used to play in the league right over,
here whatever that park, is over Your Butler, Stadium AND
i remember we had a guy on our team that
just started yelling at everybody because we had lost a.
Game and as soon as that, HAPPENED i was, LIKE
i don't need this, Man, like, Honestly i'm here to
maybe have a little bit of, fun drink my couple
of beers after the, game and then go. Home that's
that's All i'm here. For that was the end of
(52:38):
my softball career after. That, like as soon AS i heard,
THAT i was just, like, yeah you guys can have
fun with. This i'll watch, Baseball i'll do all. That
i'll play golf every once in a. WHILE i ain't doing.
Speaker 1 (52:48):
This, SEE i got trucked one time playing catcher AND
i got the. Out next, DAY i can get out of.
BED i was, like you know, What i'm probably not
gonna play next. Week it ain't that, serious.
Speaker 5 (52:57):
Guys and if you DO i love you for, it
but it's JUST I i had my competitive.
Speaker 4 (53:04):
Days in those days are we had.
Speaker 1 (53:06):
Uniforms and if if you're paying that seventy five dollars
for the uniforms and the seventy five dollars for the entry,
fee you were taking it it is bigger than life or,
Death Dan.
Speaker 5 (53:14):
MATTHEWS i even had a friend of mine's husband who
like had like a whole like soft tossed net in the,
backyard And i'm, like, dude, like you're not gonna get
a minor league.
Speaker 1 (53:24):
Deal Like, god love you for, it and clearly you.
Speaker 5 (53:27):
Do you, know still enjoy playing, it but like wife, kids,
yeah may maybe them a little bit.
Speaker 1 (53:34):
More but you've heard of The austrian league that's getting
set up the sage for they need. Pieces, Dan, no
he's gonna be a great relief picture out In Saudi
arabia and.
Speaker 5 (53:45):
Then should have fun with. That i'll continue to live my.
Life all, right the short kings out, there you're being.
Targeted i'll explain WHAT i. Mean it Is Sean Salisbury,
Show Sports talk seven Ninety.
Speaker 12 (53:59):
Charles, Parker you guys CAUGHT i put on some way
since my playing. Days you shall See Sean solisborough. Horble
now back to The Sean Solisborough. Show what a knuckle?
Speaker 1 (54:11):

Speaker 3 (54:18):
Now The salisbury's, Takeouts salisbury takeout on.
Speaker 1 (54:23):
The Sean Salisbury, show.
Speaker 5 (54:28):
It is, Said Sean Salisbury. Show Sports sox seven, Ninety Dan,
Matthews Cole thompson and For Sean Triple Emmanuel elmore hanging
out with you here on A tuesday. Morning astros back
at it tonight after an off day. Yesterday they're In
pittsburgh take on The Pirates texas And Texas tech playing
for The Women's College World series Titled tomorrow in game
(54:49):
one THE Nba Finals thursday And oka see between The
thunder and The. Pacers dating, Apps now you're a cut
man And TRIPLE. E you're out there, single so you're
part of the. Apps you're you're doing the. Swiping no, oh,
okay all, right well he's, smart he's. Smart we'll get
(55:10):
to that in a. Second but Tender at any time
in any young man's, adult young adult, life you've probably
had to use tender bumble any of. THOSE i, mean
BEFORE i Met, Megan, NOW i was in that world
and it was. Miserable it was not fun to be
a part. Of, like that's one of those, that, like you,
know people you, know you, know don't ever get married
(55:30):
whatever it, Is, well don't marry the wrong person is
what it comes down.
Speaker 11 (55:35):
To.
Speaker 1 (55:35):
Now my big thing is JUST i knew WHAT i
was getting on the apps. For it was a swipe
less swipe right for a. Reason there you.
Speaker 5 (55:40):
Go AND i mean it's also too it's areas that you're,
in like you have to keep in. Mind And houston's
got this a little bit when it comes to the
dating game And TRIPLE. A please push back If i'm
wrong on, this but WHEN i lived In, atlanta you
have to remember. That you, know it's one of those
that probably you're gonna be dating somebody that went to
AN sec school and you're gonna be dating somebody who
(56:02):
probably was In greek. Life so what happens with The
greek life is you'll have a lot of them who
decide to get married. Early, yeah so they get married,
young twenty, three twenty, four whatever it. Is they they
pretty much as sue as they're out of, school they
get married.
Speaker 1 (56:18):
To The Shane gillisses of the.
Speaker 5 (56:19):
World so then, yes that does happen, too but you
also run into some of their friends that are not married.
Yet so then they're getting the twenty, seven twenty eight
whatever it. Is they're getting to the age like where they're,
like oh my, god time's running out for. Me it's, like,
no it's just starting for. You, yes, right like it's
just beginning for. You like just chill, out all. Right
you don't have to rush in the marriage and all
(56:40):
those different types of, things like you can live life
a little.
Speaker 1 (56:44):
BIT i got married at, thirty and EVEN i was,
like you know WHAT i COULD i could have waited
two more years if need, Be LIKE i could have done.
Speaker 5 (56:50):
That it need be a friend of mine's little, brother you,
know he's a, great great guy and good looking. Guy
ladies love. Them got married at twenty, seven AND i
just was, like what do you? Doing like, seriously which
AGAIN i know That i'm going against WHAT i just
said about the people who tell, you but LIKE i was, like,
okay there's there's.
Speaker 4 (57:11):
We won't get into.
Speaker 1 (57:12):
That so, anyways he was twenty seven and a. Dummy
that continue with the.
Speaker 5 (57:15):
Story so you, know obviously everybody's been most people have
been through you, know dating, profiles all those different types of.
Things it's it's it's a vast. Wasteland Like ross says
That twitter is an ocean of. Stupidity it is like
it pretty much molds both worlds together on dating, profiles
(57:36):
BECAUSE i mean you do also get into the catfish,
game like you do have that that that's part of it.
TOO i, mean that's that's out, there BECAUSE i, mean,
look who's to stop you from putting pictures of you, Know,
GOD i don't. KNOW i MEAN i could have put
pictures Of Brad. Pitt it would have been, wrong it
would have been. Deceitful but LIKE i could have done.
That the chick's probably thinking, like, oh, hey you, know.
Speaker 4 (57:56):
God this guy looks Like Brad.
Speaker 1 (57:57):
PITT i changed on a dating profile. Once did you?
REALLY i? Did you don't even know my? Information IF
i know What i'm going out there for, IT i
understand the.
Speaker 4 (58:06):
Assignment but you're already starting the relationship with a.
Speaker 1 (58:08):
Lot there's no relationship though with the on the data.
Gap there is a one time. Friendship though there's even a.
Friendship there is a yeah whatever this. Is there is
a one date limit thing that we were going for
that night AT. Triplea that was. It you on't need
to know much about me besides that, one all.
Speaker 5 (58:23):
Right So tender is implementing a new feature on their.
App and you know how like On tender you can
have the age, range like you, know if you're twenty,
five you'll be looking FROM i don't, know twenty two
to thirty r like just whatever it. Is but a
premium discovery On tender platinum preferences that show you people
(58:47):
who match your vibe but won't limit who you. See
you'll still be able to see and be able to
match with people outside of your. Selections and the change
is going to allow women to generally filter out man
who are below their preferred.
Speaker 1 (59:03):
Height so the short kings are getting screwed. Over basically
they could be they could be. Okay So, kirsen REMEMBER
i REMEMBER i went on my first date with. Her
she had seen a picture of. Me she thought THAT
i was like five. Ten i'm a good five to,
seven And i'm okay with. THAT i admit. It at this,
POINT i can't hide. It i'm not gonna try to.
Either same she told me on our third, date if
(59:24):
you did not make me laugh so hard on the first,
date there wouldn't have been a second BECAUSE i was
worried about your. Height, Interesting so it's like great relationships
starting off on the right. Note three years, later HERE
i am, married going into my second odding anniversary come two.
Weeks it's. Funny it's, like it's funny because of sometimes
you don't realize the short guys have more to offer
(59:44):
than the tall. Dudes what do you want The instagram
profile picture of you feeling like safe and secure in somebody's,
arms but also at the same time he's a total
dweeb that doesn't give you any of the. Attention or
do you want the short guy that's actually gonna pay
attention to you and about your? Feelings and, listen you
complain about every single thing about your dance roll under
The sun And i'm not talking about this my night last.
(01:00:06):
Night so.
Speaker 5 (01:00:06):
Wow BUT i mean it's also though. TOO i, mean
you have to know that there is the chase that,
happens but you also you want to play hard to get.
Speaker 4 (01:00:14):
YOURSELF i mean that's.
Speaker 1 (01:00:16):
See it's all these things you have to think about in.
Speaker 5 (01:00:18):
Dating like that's one of those THAT i am a
full believer you find a good relationship be thankful for
what you, have because trust, me it can always be.
Worse it can absolutely. Always like remember in In TRIPLE
e you might remember. This remember the guy On twitter
WHO i don only think anybody ever knew his actual,
Identity but when the story got out About Steph curry
(01:00:41):
And Seth curry's parents to a, divorcing and the guy
was going At Del curry of, like you think you
know what it's like out. Here you don't know what
it's like out here. Anymore this this game has.
Speaker 1 (01:00:52):
CHANGED i Have, Okay triviley can answer. This, YES i
have one single friend that still is like he is
not interested in dating everyonants in a. While there we,
go how's the dating pull out, there, buddy? Trash non?
Existent non? Existing? Yes how many loops do you have
to jump through just to be able to get the
(01:01:12):
phone number or The? Instagram i'm not doing no, Jumping
so you're not going to even do. This and if
you give me to run, around.
Speaker 13 (01:01:18):
Okay by so he's doing the right, Thing Like i'm not,
Desperate i'm not gonna waste my.
Speaker 1 (01:01:22):
Time there you. Go is somebody that does want to
talk to me and does like? Me but you have
friends your, age who are desperate and are trying to
go ahead and find themselves a nice little person to
spend their life. With, correct what is the jumps of
hoops that they have to get through just for THE
ig handle of the, dates, gifts cash. Apps this is
for the. Igs this is real. Life this is not
(01:01:45):
the hate social. Media this is not for the hey
let's go third date relationship status. Now this is just
to be able to maybe get on their profile, picture
like for a. Weekend that's the level that you have
to go. AT i do not envy the dating scene.
ANYMORE i. Don't i'm.
Speaker 5 (01:02:00):
Sorry see like His facebook official even still a. THING
i MEAN i don't use. IT i, mean you, know
Maybe i'm aging myself a little bit with you two young,
guys but like that's BECAUSE i mean that was always
the thing for the. While is that's when you knew
that things were official between you and you could both
say in a relationship with so and, so like that's
that's that's when you knew that was going to be the.
Case but this is going to kind of wide into
(01:02:22):
best OF x a little bit because the responses that
his story are. Amazing one guy responded When are they
adding the single mom filter another? One will there be
A will there be a weight filter.
Speaker 1 (01:02:34):
For men in the?
Speaker 14 (01:02:35):
Scale?
Speaker 1 (01:02:35):
Fair that's not very?
Speaker 5 (01:02:36):
Nice then they'll charge men to hide their height from the?
Speaker 1 (01:02:40):
Filter?
Speaker 4 (01:02:40):
Lol do men get another?
Speaker 1 (01:02:43):
One and, Okay i'm not gonna lie on that one
THOUGH i would maybe pay the preview to hide my
hide at. FIRST i would like WHEN i was twenty
three and still use the app and self conscious one
thousand percent IF i had that extra nine to ninety
nine would put on there that way on five to.
Ten you're already on the day with, Me i'm gonna
Pay you're already on the day with. Me i'm gonna pay.
(01:03:04):
Them i'm gonna pay for the. Meal just go ahead
and sit down and enjoy your.
Speaker 5 (01:03:07):
Drinks see CAN i CAN i give a piece of
advice from my old dating days for any for any
of the single kings out, there you, know anybody that's
that's still out there fighting the good. FIGHT i, mean number,
one you got the guys right around the corner from
us The Rod Ryan. Show every year they have the
mile Of. Meat so you, know that's one way that
you could go about. It but you could also, too
for your first, date always, drinks always, drinks always, drinks
(01:03:29):
because first drink it's going. Well second, drink third drink after,
that just you, know get it going that way because
you give yourself an out at that. Point if it's
not going, well second, drink you're just, like, HEY i
hate to do, this Like I've i've got to get
going Because i've got a really early morning. Tomorrow you
give yourself an out Like that's the thing with first.
(01:03:50):
Dates give yourself an, out even if you if you're
the guy or the, girl find a.
Speaker 1 (01:03:55):
Way never did that UNTIL i was about twenty six years.
Old what happened in twenty six years, Old karris And
i's first, date what do you think it?
Speaker 6 (01:04:02):
Was?
Speaker 1 (01:04:02):
Drinks six drinks, later finally decide to. Leave set yourself
up for. THAT i agree with. That Take Dan matthews
because WHEN i was twenty, THREE i was trying to
go do. Stuff mike taken the top, golf maybe go
out for, dinner maybe go to exactly but by the,
Way set's.
Speaker 5 (01:04:20):
Dinner third date is The it's not even adventurous for
what you're, saying but at least like you do something
a little bit out the.
Speaker 1 (01:04:27):
Box by the, way if you are a bad, bowler
don't take them on a first date. Bowling they're gonna
laugh at you afterwards when you, Suck, like, yeah nothing
good's gonna come from. That if you're not good at,
it don't do. It it's, like, again one of my
buddies sucks that. Golf took her to top. Golf thought
he was gonna get. Lucky the only thing he did
was he swung and, miss both on the field and
off the.
Speaker 5 (01:04:44):
Field, well you, See and that's the one, too is
that like if you're gonna try to portray yourself as
being an athlete and then you fail. Miserably it's almost
kind of like the Comedian Whitney cummings had the joke
about a guy that she was dating and she saw
him trip and fall and it completely ended. It for
like we were talking About Curb Your enthusiasm earlier When
Larry david walked into the window pane and it just
(01:05:08):
completely ended it With Lisa.
Speaker 1 (01:05:10):
LOU i don't THINK i remember that. Part, YEAH i
don't remember that one at.
Speaker 5 (01:05:15):
All, actually, yeah it was one of those where somebody, said,
yeah you basically became an invalid to.
Speaker 1 (01:05:20):
Her, No, WELL i mean it's. Fair, again it takes one,
instant LIKE i was always, taught like if you have
a bad first, impression it takes twenty times for you
to make a good first impression to kind of change the.
Opinion and if you mess up during that one, time
you're automatically set that. Way one think of her in
a first date, again you trip game over how you
respond and pick yourself. Up if you were acting all
(01:05:40):
nonchalant about it, cool if you have any bit of
like the finagle with, it, dude you're done like it
so just doesn't that points go very nice to, meet,
you have a wonderful, day take care of.
Speaker 5 (01:05:50):
Yourself, yeah, WELL i mean it's also it's you, know
being able to set yourself up to. Succeed because For,
megan the first time THAT i made me, before it
Was game six of The alcs against The yankees When
verlander made you know what's his Name Todd frazier, looked you,
(01:06:10):
know looks stupid on that curve, ball AND i mean
and it was one of those Where i'm, like we
can't lose, This like this is like the this feels
like if they don't get past this, point they'll never
get past get back to this point ever. Again so
they win that, game and then the following NIGHT i
got hammered on wine BECAUSE i was drinking wine as a,
superstition doaring it and, uh you know.
Speaker 1 (01:06:30):
That's a very. Strange that's a SUPERS i want to
hear what's his?
Speaker 4 (01:06:34):
Name you?
Speaker 5 (01:06:34):

yeah AND i was, like oh my, god this might happen.
Tonight this is. Awesome AND i got completely. Hammered but
here we, are what seven eight years, later still?
Speaker 7 (01:06:45):

Speaker 4 (01:06:47):
Yeah. Gumbo, okay that's a good first, name chicken and, Sausage.
Speaker 1 (01:06:49):

Go all.
Speaker 5 (01:06:52):
Right so for the short kings out, there best of, luck,
guys and for the single guys out, there and ladies
and ladies don't want to don't want to, discriminate you,
know it's just know that the struggle is.
Speaker 4 (01:07:04):
Real we get you here on The Seawan Salisbury.
Speaker 1 (01:07:07):

Speaker 5 (01:07:07):
Right so WHAT i was talking about with consequences with the,
ASTROS i do want to weigh in on that a
little bit BECAUSE i do think they are pretty.
Speaker 4 (01:07:13):
Dire we will do.
Speaker 5 (01:07:14):
That it is A Sean Salisbury Show Sports talk seven.
Ninety but The Shawn Salisbury show, continued.
Speaker 4 (01:07:25):
And then the.
Speaker 5 (01:07:26):
Music you're going to have two songs that are absolutely
going to play shout and don't stop.
Speaker 1 (01:07:31):
BELIEVING i think you got to throw a third one in.
Speaker 5 (01:07:33):
There what's the third, one mister, Killers oh, god well
no no no no.
Speaker 1 (01:07:37):
No no no no no no no, no, no no no.
Speaker 4 (01:07:38):
No that that song has been.
Speaker 5 (01:07:40):
Ruined that, song that, song that song has been stepped,
on absolutely discarded into the gutter and it's.
Speaker 4 (01:07:46):
Gone that song is no.
Speaker 1 (01:07:48):
Longer.
Speaker 5 (01:07:49):
Like as soon AS i hear that, Song i'm just,
like this is don't stop believing to, me LIKE I
i as soon AS i hear, It i'm, like hit, next.
Speaker 1 (01:07:56):
Hit, NEXT i am pulling the ac taking this show
off the. RAILS i don't. Care that is the millennial national.
ANTHEM i defend this. Song, no that's random. Flowers actually
Gen z is the. Problem but go, ahead But brandon
Fut hearing that guitar riff opening up at any single wedding,
AUTOMATICALLY i think makes the party that much more. Great you,
(01:08:17):
know you know, what people that walk, outside they're wafting
in the cigar. Smoke they're outside making like these these espresso.
Shots they're downing their. Tricks hot coffee is flowing, everywhere
and you just can't wait to get to the dance.
Floor that is a staple song in my.
Speaker 5 (01:08:31):
Opinion it's student sections ruin a lot of, Things like
there was a time THAT I believe that We Will
win was actually a good chant to, have which it
started at The Naval. Academy sure then student sections ruined.
It Mister bright's side is one that student section's.
Speaker 1 (01:08:47):
Ruined who was the student section that ruined?
Speaker 4 (01:08:49):
It though your student section ruined? It we Know auburn ruined. It,
okay Maybe.
Speaker 1 (01:08:55):
AUBURN i can listen, to but there is no Way
alabama fans ruined a song that was based off of
that was happening In tennessee and they claimed it as their,
own like That's Dixie land To Light AND i still
to this day have to Tell alabama, people, listen it's
a great. Song i'll sing all of, This i'll sing
all the parts in between the. Breaks but you do
realize that that song is based off of the state
(01:09:16):
Of tennessee and has nothing to do with the yellahammer.
State despite the fact that's sung by a band that
claims the state ad. Zone like that's, It like it
has nothing to do With. Alabama you're singing Basically Rocky
top two point zero as your fight song in the fourth.
Quarter but the reality is is that because Of alabama sings,
it you appreciate it as your.
Speaker 5 (01:09:37):
Own here here's the, thing, though like what you know
this too from from living in that part of the.
Country like WHAT i do explain to people is that
the southeastern part of THE. US i almost think that
people kind of look at it as like one continuous, state,
sure just Like texas is its own. Thing like we you,
know nobody confuses us With, oklahoma nobody confuses us With
(01:09:58):
New mexico any of the other states that surround.
Speaker 4 (01:10:00):
Us but like From.
Speaker 5 (01:10:02):
Louisiana on all the way over till About, florida until
he gets to ABOUT i, TEN i, mean because it
is basically Southern georgia at that.
Speaker 1 (01:10:11):
Point, now hold, up what part Of florida the entire?
Part are we stopping like AT Orlanda, No LIKE i just,
said when once you get south of iten in like
probably even, further once you get south Of, gainesville Then
florida is like in people's mind What florida. Is, yeah
BECAUSE i Think jacksonville is the limit Of southern. Region
like that Is. Gainesville gainsville is Above, jacksonville, Right jacksonville.
Speaker 4 (01:10:31):
Is Basically Southern.
Speaker 1 (01:10:32):
Georgia to, me that is the bottom part of The southeastern.
Region everything from Up panhandle all. South you get To, Orlando,
nope that is hoity toy. Town you get To, miami
that is Straight e's coast right. There it is Not
southern at all in my.
Speaker 5 (01:10:47):
Opinion i'm glad that you left Out tampa, though Because
tampa gets slept.
Speaker 1 (01:10:52):
On i'm, Told, Okay tampa's that weird. One tampa's like
if you're on the, rules, no, No but Like tampa's, like
if you're on the left side of the, street It's East.
Coast if you're on the right side of, street It's.
Southern it's got that Perfect it's Like charlotte at this
point the, way.
Speaker 4 (01:11:06):
All right with you on?
Speaker 7 (01:11:07):
That?
Speaker 5 (01:11:07):
Okay but uh, yeah, anyway good pulled by tripley and
being able to get into the little bit of wedding talk,
here so you, know that's what we do here on
The Shawn Salisbury. Show but, yeah mister bright that like
it almost like as soon AS i say, it, Like
i'm just like god people ruined.
Speaker 1 (01:11:24):
Vote you say, NO i say, yes triple e Mister,
bridside good songer bat. Song that's all, right you're not
even helping me case Yet i'll put it.
Speaker 13 (01:11:32):
In the middle for, you, guys because, yes you both
make make a okay case in. Point what was the
last time you went to a wedding my? Birthday may the? Fourth,
okay be with.
Speaker 1 (01:11:40):
You as wrong and also with, you but let me
ask you out to. Curiosity when you went to that?
Wedding was Mister brightside, Plate yes it. Was it played
by a bunch of white. Dudes no it was. Not,
okay never. Mind so it is just a millennial. ANTHEM
i appreciate.
Speaker 13 (01:11:55):
That i'm not, lying, man it.
Speaker 5 (01:12:02):
Is it is well passed banger's status BECAUSE i, mean
it's just like anything else that's like a social media.
Trend it just gets overused and used way too. Much
and then you have the people who are corny and
don't admit that they're, corny who continue to use same
memes and you're, like that meme was cool maybe about
five years.
Speaker 1 (01:12:19):
Ago, listen just because he lives In. Chicago does not
mean that we had to give him the clot that
he wants right.
Speaker 5 (01:12:23):
Now, yeah me and you both it's a little inside
baseball for. People me and you both know who we're talking,
about all. Right astro's back at, tonight starting up series
against The pirates In, Pittsburgh texas And Texas tech go
to play for The Women's College World series, title and
Also game ONE Nba Finals thursday In. Okay see between
the Thunder Ian pacers hit those For you do want
(01:12:45):
to get into The astros conversation because we will absolutely
get into the injury, stuff even though we chopped it
up quite a bit yesterday for all twelve hours we
were on the, air but there's still a little bit
more BECAUSE i think it's an individual. Thing, now we'll
talk about it here as we continue on The Shawan Salisbury.
Speaker 6 (01:12:59):
Show Country boys roofing you need help with those navigation
of those insurance. Claims they'll do. It no job too

Gouging country with THE K, boys with THE Z countryboysroofing Dot.
Speaker 1 (01:14:33):
Com this is The Sean salisbury. Show that's beautiful.
Speaker 5 (01:14:41):
That there will be no deep dives into, shorts shirts
and helmets during this time of the.
Speaker 1 (01:14:50):
Year we know to get into too much detail. Here
let me just ask you your opinion on panic. Mode
if is not there, today where are you?
Speaker 4 (01:14:58):
At could care less.
Speaker 1 (01:15:00):
At a one. PERCENT i was all With Matt thomas last.
WEEK i was at a point zero zero zero. One
i'm at a one calm. Down It's june.
Speaker 5 (01:15:08):
There if it looks like if it looks like he's
going to miss, games Then i'll start to. Worry but,
again the first month of the season is kind of
inconsequential as Is IT'S i, mean it does you know
matter to the overall playoff? Picture maybe if you're, Close
BUT i mean The texans should also be in position
this year that it's not a maybe that you're running
away with this.
Speaker 1 (01:15:27):
Thing you shouldn't be. RUNNING i, mean you shouldn't feel like.
That you don't have to run away with this. Thing
but let me ask, You like you're talking about a
game Against Los angeles to begin the, year then you
play On monday night Against, tampa another division, winner and
then back to back divisional games in your first, month
that to me is constitute two. Years, fine that's consequential
to have your quarterback out there For i'd much rather
(01:15:49):
him not play AGAINST i don't, Know Kansas city in
week sixteen because he got him. Breathing you know that
you're not getting past the three seed LIKE i to,
me that means more than him not starting off the
year to where you have a shot to go three
in one or four, now especially when you can go
two and er in your division and take an advantage
before you ever had the face off Against, indianapolis who
for my money is probably going to be next in.
Speaker 5 (01:16:09):
Line, well something that we can also discuss here and
even carried over to the start at the third hour
of the, show is you, know obviously yesterday we all
reacted To Dana brown everybody on the Jord On alvarez.
Injury here's something THAT i just can't shake out of
my head that it's kind of similar to what happened
last year With Kyle. Tucker oh you know they give
(01:16:30):
us to go. Ahead, well you know they're they're back
in the. Lineup why are you ever putting this on the?
Speaker 4 (01:16:35):
Player?
Speaker 8 (01:16:36):
Like?
Speaker 5 (01:16:36):
Why why is that even remotely entering into your your
mindset as an.
Speaker 1 (01:16:41):
Organization, well are you saying that people are putting it
on the player or that the Owner Joe spott was
saying it about about your Not that's What i'm. Saying
you're not saying like fans online are saying that you're
saying that spot is. NO i agree with.
Speaker 7 (01:16:53):
You.
Speaker 1 (01:16:54):
LISTEN i listened to the interview with you And sean
And dana every single, week AND i do that not
just for my job with doing the, replay but also
BECAUSE i enjoy listening to. It i'll enjoy listening to it.
Live you want to what are usually the first four
questions injury? Updates ninety nine point nine percent of the,
time you want to change the narrative you want to
(01:17:17):
make sure that we're focusing in On Jeremy panga and
his hot start. Offensively Jacob, meltain what could he be
as a part of this roster now getting his opportunity
to make it to the majors each Pared so WHO
i still feel like we are not talking enough about
and his offensive approach in the month Of. May you
want to make sure that that becomes a focal. Point
jordan will be back when he's back right. Now we're
(01:17:38):
undetermined on a. Situation Spencer araghtty will be back right
now because it's an undetermined. Situation but instead we, hear,
oh he's working. Back we feel like that he's getting
closer to the game, now and stop put a pin in.
It your roster right now is not changing because if
Jord On alvarez is now on the, tee because Ord
(01:17:59):
On alvarez is now in the batting, Cages i'm looking
at the team right now And i'm seeing three players
that have an opportunity to earn An All star, bid
and the entire conversation begins with. Injuries just nip it
in the butt right there and move on to the next.
Question so every Single wednesday Or. Thursday whenever data comes on,
in you can focus in on other. Things but when
(01:18:20):
you give that tease and you set it up to, where,
hey this is an organization that feels like we're almost.
There The Kyle tucker thing last, year you, know he's
working his way. Back it's kind of a more feel.
Thing just if you silenced it in that, standpoint you
immediately focus in on the other things that are going
well for The. Astros but so many fans are so
focused and hyper fixated On, Hey. Jr Don alvarez is
(01:18:45):
at seventy five, percent he's almost. Back and Then Joe
asponda doubles down and, says we're working our way. Back
it's not necessary and there's so many other things that
you can focus in on that are more prevalent to
what is going on with The astros right. Now the
way they've played.
Speaker 5 (01:19:01):
WELL i mean it's also TOO i, mean you dangle
the carrot out there and we continue to tell ourselves
we're not gonna fall forward all over. Again BUT i
mean you want to have a certain level of trust
there when it when it comes to things like, this
and it's time and time. AGAIN i, mean let's be honest,
here you've been told you can't be trusted with.
Speaker 1 (01:19:16):
This, well okay from a media. STANDPOINT i do this
from the journalistic. Standpoint, also anybody that works in this
field that happens are quite a big jay. Journalist, yeah
big jaj right over. Here you want to build that
relationship to where people can trust you in this, industry
especially in this. Market In, atlanta In New, york In,
(01:19:36):
chicago In Los, angeles major. Markets they'll tell it as. Is,
yeah dealing with an elbow. Injury could be off for a.
While nip it in the, button move. On what do
we get? Here and it's not just With, dana and
it's not just with The, ashless it's with The texans. Too.
Huh you know he's working his way. Back we're gonna
evaluate everything and we'll keep you up to. Date just
(01:19:56):
say he's dealing with the shoulder. Injury he's not gonna
be playing this. Week he's gonna be deal home with something.
Else you do it right, there because they do it
in the major. Markets why can't you have enough respect
here to when the national guy reports it and then people, say,
oh you can't trust local. Media you can't have because
local media doesn't know what's going. On you're not giving
us the opportunity to tell if we know what's going,
(01:20:16):
on because instead of just being open and, honest you
want to have these six different options to where you
can throw out A pr release on A thursday and then, go,
hey you know, what we'll evaluate. Tomorrow just let us.
Know we all know what it.
Speaker 5 (01:20:29):
Is, well it's also too AS i was talking about the,
INDIVIDUALS i feel like a dangerous game is being, played
And i'll explain that as we start the third hour
of the show. Again Cole thompson in For. Sean it
is The Sean Salisbury. Show Sports talk seven NINETY Kbms.
Speaker 10 (01:20:46):
HOUSTON adhd Two, houston my heart radio, station the astross.
Speaker 2 (01:20:51):
The, Rockets Rockets fast before you're home for your home.
Speaker 1 (01:20:55):
Teams this Is Sports talk seven ninety from.
Speaker 10 (01:20:59):
The parsons that mentioned next, Studios, Saulsbury.
Speaker 3 (01:21:08):
Old Very Salisbury house Did, okay let's do, This Sewn salisbury.
Speaker 2 (01:21:15):
TO Usc, troup longtime, Friend Shawn, Salisbury Dan. Matthewscuse this
is The Sewan Salisbury.
Speaker 5 (01:21:23):
Show texas And Texas tech both playing for The Women's
College World series Titled tomorrow And game ONE Nba finals
coming Up thursday In Oklahoma city between The thunder and The.
Pacers someone three, two, one two five seven ninety is
the number.
Speaker 4 (01:21:42):
Two get.
Speaker 5 (01:21:43):
In cole gonna be with us for the rest of
this hour and Then Chris gordy gonna join us from
the nine o'clock hour on right here today on the.
Show and we were talking a little bit about The
astros injury, situation and you, know dove back into a
little bit of some of the conversation we had. Yesterday
but here's the, Consequence, cole THAT i feel like people
(01:22:03):
are not looking at right now because you have to
remember That Major League baseball is a small circle that
these guys they, talk either through their own, agencies maybe
it's guys that have previous relationships from being former, teammates
friends of, friends whatever it is these guys. Talk it
gets to a point too where one hundred and sixty two,
(01:22:26):
games it's hard. Enough you want to be able to
simplify this thing as much as. Possible situations like what
just happened With Jordan alvarez do not help you with
potential free agents, now because you also want to know
that injuries are a part of the. Game it's going to,
happen you're going to be on THE il at some.
Time if you sign a long term deal with a,
team you're probably going to miss some. Time so when that,
(01:22:47):
happens you want to know that a you're getting the
best treatment and the best recovery plan that you can possibly,
have but also, too what we've seen for the last
couple of years With Kyle tucker last, year With Jordan alvarez.
Speaker 4 (01:22:59):
This, year again putting it on the. Player If i'm a,
Player i'm pissed you do.
Speaker 5 (01:23:04):
That i'm furious because if it's one of those that,
say for, example a bone bruise and you're not coming
back if it bothers, you then you're going to have
that out.
Speaker 1 (01:23:13):
There why the hell aren't you back. Yet it's a bone, bruise,
dude come, on let's. Go what are you?
Speaker 5 (01:23:17):
Doing then you find out later that it's, misdiagnosed so
you do all of. That the damage is done at that.
Point If i'm a player And i'm having people who
are questioning my toughness in my ability to be able
to get back out on the, field then, Yeah i'm
going to be upset And i'm going to be.
Speaker 1 (01:23:33):
Resentful towards. You this goes further back than just staying
it though this Was undernee Changed click, too especially with
the entire situation of the misdiagnosis and also the rehabilitation.
Process this has been lingering with the organization for, years
and at some point you have to realize that something
(01:23:55):
needs to change if you want to have that faith
and really going to have the negative cloud that's been around.
You like people get pissed off and share their own
reports on how the ashs aren't giving away any, information
so it's hard for him to kind of dissect or, dilude,
hey let's play the doctor game and figure out what's
going on and when there is an actual, timeline and
then they're frustrated when the timeline's. Wrong this isn't just
(01:24:18):
a first time, situation or That Kyle tucker wasn't the
last guy to go through this and the only other
guy to go through. This this was happening back in
twenty twenty. One it's happening back in twenty twenty. TWO i,
MEAN i remember hearing, That, yeah we're probably not gonna
Get lance mccullor's back in twenty twenty, three but could
we get him back in twenty twenty, four what's going
on With Luis garcia right? Now what's the status Of
(01:24:38):
Christian hobbyer right? Now jose Or keaty was out for a.
While what was his? Longevity was he projected back at some?
Point and you want to have this conversation of, yes
he's working his way, back but also if the entire
clubhouse doesn't know that he is quote unquote working his way,
back means six months to a year before he's actually gonna,
recover then you're, Wondering, okay what happens when our team
(01:25:02):
is losing and maybe he's almost. There, okay we got
to ramp him up a little bit more so that
way we can get him back out in the.
Speaker 5 (01:25:07):
Bullpen it's almost kind of to a point WHERE i,
mean If i'm a, PLAYER i almost kind of wonder
if the clubhouse soon enough just, says, hey you guys
gonna change the way that you go about doing, this
because then it starts to set expectations in that. Clubhouse,
oh we're gonna Get hovey. Airback oh that's. Cool oh
we're gonna Get we're gonna Get louis.
Speaker 4 (01:25:26):
Back that's.
Speaker 5 (01:25:26):
Awesome like of being able to have those out, here
and in fairness To, dana he does say. Hopefully, yeah
so he does give himself a little bit of an
out on, That but it is also too what are
you doing of not granting yourself the favor Of, hey,
look it's a long.
Speaker 4 (01:25:41):
Shot we would like to have him back this, year
and we're hopeful that.
Speaker 5 (01:25:46):
They can be back at this, Point but it's also
TOO i just want people to not be disappointed if
it doesn't happen this.
Speaker 4 (01:25:52):
Year what's the harm in.
Speaker 1 (01:25:53):
That because you're not, lying but you're also kind of
setting a. Baseline maybe it'll, happen maybe it, won't but.
Okay it also allows you to kind of have a
good understanding about what you need to do going into
the trade. Deadline so we consistently Hear Christian navier is
we're going his way. Back Christian xavier might be ready
at some, point, well some point needs to be. Determined
is he going to be on the field by the
(01:26:15):
time that we get To july thirty first and it's four,
pm or DO i have to go out and add
in a fourth? Arm like those are things that you
have to have those conversations on because if it's a
little bit different when, hey he may only be our
number four, pitcher but we're paying him to be a number.
Two it may only be, yeah he is only going
to give us three or four innings in the next five.
Starts but at least you know he's. Back at least
(01:26:38):
you know we don't have to go out and on.
Anybody like right, now let's say The ashers are three
games above five hundred and they can't hit against. Lefties
you want to add in a left handed bat just
because if you want to be able to combat any,
opportunity just to throw him in the. Lineup But majordon
is close to being, back well close doesn't help me
(01:26:58):
in a division race Where i'm barely leading Against, seattle
And seattle right now is going investing all in on
adding in another and adding in an outfielder or adding
in a first. Basement so every move that they make
you at the counteract it. With and if you don't
know what the status is of a certain, player then
at this point what are you. Doing you're only hurting
(01:27:19):
your Team and then the person to blame is all
coming back to you because of a misdiagnosis and a
misleaning toward the public.
Speaker 5 (01:27:25):
Eye, well and it's ALSO i, MEAN i understand wanting
to have trust in your. Players i'm fully on board with,
that but it also you have to remember that these
guys are more competitive than any of us can sometimes.
COMPREHEND i, mean they're their harshest critic all of those different.
Things you've heard it. All but it's also before you
even swing a. Bat what is the harm in sending
(01:27:45):
them in for more imaging of just Send, hey, look
we just want to make sure that we're on top
of this.
Speaker 4 (01:27:51):
THING i, mean we believe that you can swing a.
Bat that's not a.
Speaker 5 (01:27:54):
Question it's, Fine but why give ourselves any chance that
maybe we've missed.
Speaker 4 (01:27:59):
Something that's just what it is the heart of all
of this THAT i just can't get past.
Speaker 5 (01:28:04):
Of you're going to clear him to do all these
things without following, UP i, mean and then you're going
to try to tell us, that, oh it wasn't, structural
it wasn't, structural and then you find out that it
was structural when you could have found this out a
long time.
Speaker 1 (01:28:18):
Ago how do you.
Speaker 5 (01:28:18):
Get to sixty? Percent as my big, question we talked
about it, Yesterday, LIKE i don't even know what that.
Means like it's it almost kind of feels like they're
throwing out an absolute number for the hopes that it
will be able to provide some clarity for, people but
it's also too at the same.
Speaker 4 (01:28:36):
TIME i, mean it's either fractured or it's.
Speaker 1 (01:28:38):
Not it's like WHEN i Heard nikosarios SAY i don't
even know what team needs, Are, LIKE i just can
somebody please explain that to. Me he knows what it.
Means you know what it, means. Dude your offensive line
gave up fifty four sacks last year and your quarterback's
not throwing in OTAs because of. It i'm sorry that
you don't want to go ahead and give a little
bit more insight to, This but you know what a
team need. Means you know what sixty percent. Means, oh
(01:29:00):
he's able to hit off the tea and he's able
to hit against live bullpen, practice but we can't ram
them up against one of our top. Pitchers, okay, cool
so say. That but when you say sixty percent and
come up with this nonchalant, Number, Okay i'm giving thirty
five percent. Today my volume level is at twenty two.
Percent you want to hear me screaming to the microphone
on one. Hundred trust, ME i will give you, That
(01:29:20):
but that try Like i'm making these things. UP i
could be at fifty eight percent right. Now dan could
be at forty two percent right. Now Triple e's over,
There TRIPLE y over here is doing a twenty two
percent job producing. Today he could be doing.
Speaker 11 (01:29:32):
Nothing that is not.
Speaker 1 (01:29:33):
Cool he is doing a ninety nine percent job producing.
Today he's doing one hundred. Percent that was your. Problem
my point being is that you come up with different.
Numbers everyone has this own, salil.
Speaker 15 (01:29:42):
Like this own.
Speaker 1 (01:29:42):
Spiel it's it's not right because if you don't know
what that, means just tell us what the facts. Are
he's not able to. Hit he doesn't have a Second.
Mriri he needs to be able to kind of go
into second. Imaging if you just have, that you have a.
Baseline but when you come up with this out of
left field car, conversation all you're doing is you're setting
up a player to fail when you got to put
(01:30:03):
him back on the.
Speaker 5 (01:30:03):
EYE i understand setbacks. HAPPEN i understand that it's not
a linear progression in terms of trying to be able
to come back from.
Speaker 4 (01:30:09):
Injuries trust.
Speaker 5 (01:30:10):
ME i get, IT i, understand but it is also
too If I'm Jim crane for all of the control
that he wants to have in that. Building, now they're
better have been a meeting After saturday of saying this
is the last time this is going to happen While
i'm the owner of this.
Speaker 1 (01:30:24):
Team and if it doesn't the, congratulations you know what
to expect moving. Forward when people don't want to report on, anything,
SORRY i mean like like that's what it. Is when
Chanler rome starts coming out and, saying don't, know don't ask.
Me this is, why because if you can't build that trust,
factor he's one of your best. Players and the only,
caveat AND i will Give dana a little bit of,
credit the only caveat is we now know Why jordan
(01:30:47):
wasn't able to slug the way that he was last.
Season we now know why there was more to the
story than just a little bit of hand. Issue it's
been going on since the. Spring you're shutting him, Down
you're letting in back to full health and hopefully that
ops the slugging, percentage the on base, percentage the, velocity
the arch, angle all the things that were really struggling
(01:31:10):
with him in that first month will be solid when
he gets back at full.
Speaker 5 (01:31:13):
CAPACITY i just know that players want to feel, supported
AND i just feel like that now these are two
different occasions where you've not supported your, player like you've
set them up for a position to, fail and that's on.
You and if you're an organization that prides themselves on
being on the cutting edge in many ways for research,
development all of the things that have made THE astro,
(01:31:33):
SUCCESSFUL i mean there are always strengths and. Weaknesses, dude
plug up this strength as soon as, possible because soon
enough for the great clubhouse you have and the winning
culture and all those different types of, things there's great
club there's great clubhouses in winning cultures other, places and
guys are going to start choosing.
Speaker 1 (01:31:52):
That sometimes when you hear that change is going to
happen for the franchise and you're constantly seeing the exact
same thing, happen you start to wonder what needs to
actually change before things start to actually turn the.
Speaker 4 (01:32:01):
Corner, WELL i MEAN i brought up the example.
Speaker 5 (01:32:03):
Yesterday The rockets did it a few years ago When
yaoming was going through his foot. Issue they Brought Walter
lowe out like. That that would go a long way
of you're in a situation like this, again make the
team doctor, available make them. Available it's a it's a
one time. Deal it's, over it's done. With you get
it straight from the medical professional and it's. Done we
have a conversation once a year with one of the
(01:32:24):
head scouts for The. Texans we know what they're kind
of going and looking for in terms of the foundation
of the.
Speaker 1 (01:32:30):
Franchise it's a one time. Meeting, okay you miss, it
you miss, it BUT i promise you once you get
a good, understanding everyone's on the same. Page you know
what to look, for you know what to, expect you
know what was the thought. Process you kind of get
to you kind of hit reset on the rest of the.
Year it's at the end of the. World it isn't
see a couple of you on the phone.
Speaker 5 (01:32:48):
Lines you want to join them seOne three two one
two five seven ninety seven one three, two one two
five seven Ninety continue this. Conversation also get into a
little bit of. Uh lance mccullors on The mountain tonight
Against Paul. Skeens talk about it right. Here it Is
Sewn Salisbury Show Sports talk seven.
Speaker 4 (01:33:04):
Ninety oh also check this.
Speaker 16 (01:33:06):
OUT i should have warned you If shawn only cares
about cold Hard.
Speaker 3 (01:33:12):
Back to The Sean salisbury show On Sports talk seven
ninety that.
Speaker 4 (01:33:17):
We've been out.
Speaker 1 (01:33:17):
There that's when these guys, Decided, hey it's deluge.
Speaker 4 (01:33:20):
Time here'should be the.
Speaker 1 (01:33:21):
Problem it's gonna be like ninety eight degrees with the
heat index of one on, One so it's still gonna be,
miserable just in a different.
Speaker 4 (01:33:27):
Way june third here In, houston he knew.
Speaker 1 (01:33:29):
HERE i at least wanted it to get To july
BEFORE i got the heat index triple.
Speaker 5 (01:33:34):
Digits, see that's what cracks me, up is LIKE i,
Like i'm seeing, like you, know temperatures ON, tv and they're,
like you, know.
Speaker 1 (01:33:39):
Oh low.
Speaker 5 (01:33:40):
Nineties i'm, like it's never like it doesn't ever feel that, Way,
like what are you talking about?
Speaker 1 (01:33:44):
NOW i love when people are like all the, time,
oh you southers can't handle the winter. Heat come down
here and spend an afternoon In july at the winter. Heat,
No i'm good with. That The Winter, show my.
Speaker 5 (01:33:56):
Apologies oh, yeah that's. Fine, no, no, no, no, no
the one that bothers me And gary you get to
you here and just second to lead us. Off but
like the one that bothers me is like when you
live in areas like, here, yeah Or South florida or,
wherever then you have somebody who's from The midwest or
from The northeast that's, like, oh this isn't, cold.
Speaker 4 (01:34:12):
No, Kidding, bud that's WHY i live.
Speaker 1 (01:34:14):
Here, Yeah but then they get To july and it's,
like oh my, GOD i can't but this isn't. Hot
this is. Shoot.
Speaker 5 (01:34:20):
Well Greg cook had a good line of you, know
one of his former teammates up In Green bay was once, like,
MAN i don't know how you leave you live in
that heat and. Humidity he goes, EASY i don't have
to shovel it fair, awesome. Honestly that's, like that's the
different for, me is THAT i don't have to shovel my.
LAWN i don't have to shovel my grass in.
Speaker 4 (01:34:37):
The, morning any of those.
Speaker 5 (01:34:38):
Things and that's that's the other part of it is, Too,
like you, know we had the ice, storm we had
the snow whatever whatever it was this, year and whenever
people up in The northeast or anywhere else will be,
like you, know, ah look at them try, to you,
know get through two inches of, snow because it doesn't snow, here.
Moron it's just like Southern california when it rains, there
(01:34:58):
and like they have like their rainy part of the,
year like it leads their broadcast because it's just like
whenever it ice is over and snow's.
Speaker 1 (01:35:05):
Here that's that's what it. Is it's also like the
snowbirds From New jersey that go down To South florida
for the. Winter like you're avoiding the, Inevitable you're still
avoiding the inevitable. Here i'm sorry THAT i can't afford
two houses in different, locations people to pick and. Shoes
WHEN i get to decide my, WEATHER i appreciate WHAT
i have And i'm gonna embrace.
Speaker 5 (01:35:23):
It ninety five over thirty five any day of the.
Week i've said it numerous. Times i'd much rather be
brutally hot than be freezing cold and not being it
because it's the other part of it is the humidity creeps. In,
yeah and that's what makes it like even more bone
chilling like fifties here is colder than like fifties in
like a less humid, Area like if you're like in
an area that's, like you, know, dry and it's in the.
(01:35:45):
Fifties it's kind of pleasant that it's actually. NICE i
actually love cold over hot heat.
Speaker 1 (01:35:50):
Personally LIKE i could move To colorado and be content,
There but like a difference is, again there's no humidity
up In colorado to where it's nineteen, degrees but it
feels it's like forty five because the sun's. Blazing you
can go, outside AND i have to feel like that
you're bundling up nineteen degrees, here shut down for. Armageddon
then don't leave your, house hug your, children and pray
that you make it through the. Snowstorm like that's the
(01:36:12):
difference when you look at those.
Speaker 5 (01:36:13):
Things that's quite a picture you paint. There seven, one, three,
two two five seven. Ninety Uh gary in spring once
leads Off, gary good, Morning.
Speaker 8 (01:36:21):
Hey good morning. Guys UH i listen to you guys every.
Speaker 16 (01:36:24):
MORNING i deliver auto parts for a, living and SO
i switched back and forth from you guys and the
other sports talk on the, dial and, UH i listen
to you guys more BECAUSE i like like the way
y'all deliver stuff and everything. Here, RECENTLY i can't oh
y'are are pushing me to the other. Channel, man you
guys are beating a dead. Horse please stop. It two
or three days in a row on these, doctors on these,
(01:36:46):
astros the players that aren't, playing watch the.
Speaker 8 (01:36:49):
Game root for the guys on the.
Speaker 16 (01:36:51):
Field with trying to analyze the players in the, dugout
how they're not their back's not being. Had the players
in the, Dugout my feeling is they want him to get,
back or anybody to get.
Speaker 8 (01:37:02):
Back but there's an opening, up maybe an opportunity for.
Me so please just watch the ball.
Speaker 16 (01:37:08):
Game quit trying to analyze the, doctors the teams and
owners and, everything and just enjoyed the product that you
have on the.
Speaker 8 (01:37:14):
Field so just that that dead horse is. Dead just
let it go and move on to some other, objects.
Speaker 1 (01:37:22):
Just any other. Player it doesn't.
Speaker 4 (01:37:26):
Matter yes it does, Matter, Gary absolutely it does.
Speaker 5 (01:37:30):
Matter you have one of the top hitters in all of,
baseball one of the best hitters in all of, baseball
who is out for your. Team your team is not
as good without, Them SO i would say that he.
Speaker 16 (01:37:38):
Matters, Correct, WELL i agree with, you but it's not
going to change when he's coming.
Speaker 8 (01:37:43):
Back and y'all just keep harping and harping and. HARPING
i agree with.
Speaker 14 (01:37:47):
You i'm sadden for.
Speaker 8 (01:37:48):
IT i think they misdiagnosed. It but it's their team
and if their doctors let them do what they, want
and you just not let me enjoy this ball team,
tonight all.
Speaker 5 (01:37:57):
You that's not on us To it's not our job
to help your enjoyment of The. Astros that's on.
Speaker 1 (01:38:05):
You, yeah but it's not.
Speaker 8 (01:38:07):
Your job just to keep on harping.
Speaker 1 (01:38:08):
On, yes it, Is, Garrett, Gary, gary if they told
you a month ago that Jord On alvarez was going
to be out for six to eight, weeks nipped it
in the butt right, then and there no. Conversations you
want to what my focus is? On East Soak parades
hitting multiple doubles in a, game Jayner dia is improving
(01:38:30):
at the, plate seeing a much more Confident Christian walker
who hit nearly three hundred at home in the month Of,
May Jeremy paanya coming out and having An All star.
Season that's where the focus is. On because IF i
don't have to worry about a guy the Way i'm
out worried About spotsia arraghetti right. Now but when you
constantly hear time and time and time and time, again
it's nearing an. End he's almost. Back that's where focus.
(01:38:54):
Is would you rather hear right now that Ord On
alvarez is not going to be playing for the next eight,
weeks or constantly hear that he is maybe working his way.
Back i'm genuinely asking this conversation to.
Speaker 16 (01:39:05):
You, Yeah, well WHAT i do IS i hear what they,
say and when they say, IT i believe, them and
then they come.
Speaker 7 (01:39:11):
Back.
Speaker 1 (01:39:11):
Right so when they say Constantly gary that they're on
their way, back they're on their way back and they're
not on their way, back don't you feel a little?
Slighted well, no not.
Speaker 16 (01:39:21):
Really i'm a little sad about, It BUT i don't
harp on it and tell them how to do their
job and try to be a psychologist about other people
in the.
Speaker 8 (01:39:29):
Dugout you guys are being.
Speaker 16 (01:39:30):
Ridiculous, Anyway, SORRY i gotta, go But i'm JUST i
just can't listen to you guys do this over and
over and over.
Speaker 5 (01:39:36):
AGAIN i, MEAN i appreciate, it but, no that is
our job to do because when it's clearly a story
that's not being told all the way, through then, yeah
we do have to continue to talk about, it and
took it a little bit of a different tack, Today
BUT i mean it is something that will be a
(01:39:56):
concern for. You, Again, hey they're in on this, player to,
them why they lose? Them you start to talk to the. Player, yeah,
man the, station hold, on hold. On it's BECAUSE i
don't like the way that they handle their. PLAYERS i
don't feel like i'd be supported there the start that.
Happened are they at the other station mentioning HOW.
Speaker 1 (01:40:13):
Cj stroud isn't throwing for the ump team time In,
June because it's the exact same. Thing when you have
a conversation and you have a programship that's with the,
company it happens that. Way sorry that right, now it's
baseball season and you constantly heard for the last month
and a half That Jordan alvarez was working his way
back and unfortunately now there was a setback that could
(01:40:35):
have been solved right then and there when you just
put it on. Hold, SORRY i, mean is it's not
any different than the other station mentioning in the month
Of may And june a quarterback that's Not Nina right,
now how panicked should we be that he didn't make
a handoff to the left. Today, honestly my alarm went
(01:40:56):
off because that's how much my brain is freezing right.
Now hearing conversation like, That it's gonna. Happen it's the
exact same. Thing you're hearing negativity at the other side
about something going on in off season. Workouts it's live.
Season astros are games above five. Hundred they have three
(01:41:16):
hitters that are. Contributing you would like to know that
a fourth is on his way. Back instead we have
to hear sixty. Percent, well, actually let's put a pin
in that until about a month from.
Speaker 5 (01:41:27):
NOW i, mean, look it continues to be a story
because it continues to be made a story and if
we're not talking about, it because Most astros, fans you,
know maybe Not, gary but Most astros, fans they want
to know when Youord On alvarez is getting.
Speaker 4 (01:41:41):
Back we want to know when Youord on alva is getting.
Speaker 5 (01:41:42):
Back and until he is back in the, LINEUP i
hate to tell you it's gonna continue to be a.
Story and if that offends, you well THEN i can't
really help you with. That, uh let's do continue The astros.
Conversation if you want to get in on. That seb one,
three two one two five seven. Ninety lance Mccullors junior
is something we talked about. Earlier do you want to
revisit it here because feel like tonight could be pretty
(01:42:03):
huge for. Him we'll talk about. It it Is Sean Salisbury,
Show Sports talk seven ninety.

Speaker 4 (01:43:07):
Tom good, Morning, hey good, Morning join the, Show thanks.
Speaker 1 (01:43:11):
Buddy, yeah, uh just want to take a.
Speaker 7 (01:43:14):
Couple of weeks, ago my three year old grandson broke
his arm or it fell. Down they took him to
the doctor and TOOK x. Rays, now everything's, Fine just
go ahead and send him. Home check on. IT a week,
Later payne's still. There took him back for AN x.
Ray small crack in that. Arm they, say, well the,
inflammation it makes it real hard for AN x, RAY
(01:43:36):
mri whatever to spot a small. Crack, now ONCE i,
figured once Your dan started working out a little more
and doing, that inflammation went away and they took ANOTHER
x ray and it showed the small. CRACK i, Mean
i'd love to be able to blame, somebody but that's
just the way it. Is our technology can't see the
(01:43:57):
little stuff like. That when there's, inflammation a lot of. Info, sorry,
YEAH i appreciate the, Call. TOM i, mean, look my
issue is not with the.
Speaker 5 (01:44:07):
DOCTORS i mean it Is it is science when it
comes down to, it and science is at its heart
an educated. Guests that's pretty much what it. Is so
there are, misdiagnoses there are one hundred percent spot on.
Diagnoses does all all? Happen it's the dissemination of information
that's the issue here that you. Have and it is
also two of even having like you don't just have
(01:44:30):
one doctor that's going to be the one that's going to,
be you, know making just unilateral decisions across the. Board
you have many different steps to. This like WHAT i
can't get past here is where you don't get to
a point, of, hey he's about to start doing. This
you sure he's good to go for? This like do
we do we maybe want to get him checked one
more time before we sign off on doing. That that's
(01:44:52):
the one for.
Speaker 1 (01:44:53):
Me my big thing is. That, okay AND i actually
agree With tom on one. Thing the inflammation is something
that can cover up in AN MRI n an extra
that you can't see. THROUGH i understand that with a
small CRACK i get, that does it take a month
for the inflammation to go so far? Down and if it,
does the very first Thing i'm doing is getting a second,
check getting a second, opinion making sure that everything is
(01:45:17):
absolutely up to date BEFORE i go ahead and sing
it back out. There you knew that the inflammation was.
Down the inflamation had to be down because he was
able to finally pick up a bat and then when
he got, on when he got in the bullpen, practice
he started, launching he started. Hitting you got to see
him actually at. Work so what happened in between those
fifteen hours of him leaving the park going back into
(01:45:41):
the dugout to Then dana coming out and having a conversation,
saying now that we further valued there is a. Fracture
the fracture was there before he took batting. Practice the
fracture was there before he got in the, cage the
fracture was there when he was at doing the, tea
and at that point you also kind of knew the
inflammation was. Down that's when you check. It the second
(01:46:05):
of the inflammation is decided and it's way over to
the wayside to where it's no longer hiding some minor details.
Speaker 8 (01:46:12):
In the in the.
Speaker 1 (01:46:13):
Touch that's when you go check immediately, afterwards not three
weeks after the inflammation has finally gone.
Speaker 4 (01:46:19):
Away, well it's JUST i, mean it's.
Speaker 5 (01:46:21):
You you don't do yourself any disservice by being overly,
Protective like you don't do yourself any disservice of the
medical center is what three miles away from from the,
Stadium like you can't weekly send somebody over. There AND
i know it's a, pain but we just we really
want to make sure we're good on. This LIKE i
think if nothing else then it's like, okay, WELL i
(01:46:42):
mean if this is part of What i've got to
do as part of my rehab and, recovery then, sure, okay, Whatever.
Speaker 1 (01:46:46):
OKAY i hate to be given a second opinion To gary,
here but Like Ronel, blanco you said you want a second,
Opinion so why don't you want a second opinion on
your On? Alvarez why? That like that's the part that
bothers me. Here AND i don't really want to spend
much more time talking about oron because again The, astros
they have an opportunity to go on this road, trip
get six, wins come back home feel really confident playing
(01:47:09):
against A White sox team that you have dismantled when
you've played at home At Dykin. PARK i want to
talk about. That that's where the focus should. Be but,
again if you want to get a second opinion On lance,
mccullors On Spencer, arraghetti On Ronel, blanco on any one
of your, pitchers on even A saya Is Zach desenzo
(01:47:30):
for that, matter why don't you want to get that
same second opinion on your best hitter and one of
your most clutch players over the last five. Years it
does no harm to anybody to get a second.
Speaker 5 (01:47:41):
Opinion, WELL i MEAN i would think, that especially, him
that you want to just because of how important he
is to your, Team like you'd want to absolutely be
one hundred percent, Sure, hey are we rushing.
Speaker 4 (01:47:49):
Him back or are we doing this all at the right?
Speaker 5 (01:47:51):
TIME i mean, THAT i, mean there are certain guys
that you handle, differently, Right jordan's a guy that you
handled Different.
Speaker 1 (01:47:57):
We were having a conversation On friday's show about where
your noon is going to be in the lineup when
they go take the take the field Against pittsburgh On.
Speaker 5 (01:48:04):
TUESDAY i was Surprised saturday and WHEN i got to
the ballpark AND i saw he wasn't in the, LINEUP
i was, like, oh that's. Odd figured he was going
to be out, here but apparently. Not joe wants to weigh. In,
joe good, Morning hey, guys good.
Speaker 8 (01:48:16):
MORNING i just want to just stick out my.
Speaker 1 (01:48:19):
Opinion On jordan of.
Speaker 15 (01:48:21):
Injury so my question would, be why aren't we questioning
The Houston nationals medical.
Speaker 8 (01:48:27):
Team you, know this is.
Speaker 15 (01:48:29):
Unacceptable, yes the inflammation can really cover small details on
a bone fracture like, that but but why isn't this
doctors doing their? Job you, KNOW i know, baseball it's
it's it's a passion sport and it's all about you,
know Tiny so imagine If jordan out that this would
have continued doing the batting practice and would have you,
(01:48:51):
know guy in his injury even. WORSE i, mean somebody
has to be held accountable, here AND i think he
has to be with The Houston nationals medical.
Speaker 1 (01:48:58):
Team i'll hang up and.
Speaker 8 (01:48:59):
Listen thank.
Speaker 5 (01:49:00):
YOU i appreciate the. CALL i, mean you, know we've talked,
about you, know just who's that? FAULT i, AGAIN i
think this comes down to an information the information part
of all of this not even necessarily about the team,
doctors not even about team trainers anybody else of the.
Sort but it just it comes down to how are
(01:49:21):
you reporting this and getting this information out, there and
are you effectively communicating what are actual?
Speaker 4 (01:49:29):
Expectations and the answer to that is.
Speaker 1 (01:49:30):
NO i never thought i'd give my mom a shout
out on the, show but she tells me all the
time that in my family we don't communicate well. Enough
we don't have good conversations and let people know what's going.
On that's HOW i feel about the astros right. Now
medical team not communicating enough to the, act to the front,
office front office out wanting a second opinion for the medical,
team medical team not trying to force forward to go
(01:49:50):
ahead and, say we understand how important y'red on is this.
Organization let's just go ahead and have that second check
one last. Time like the having good communication and being
able to be on the same page solves ninety percent
of the. Problems and it just doesn't feel like either
one is all.
Speaker 5 (01:50:06):
Right, Tripley we're gonna go about a minute or two
pass the, break just BECAUSE i, MEAN i do want
to put a pin in in. This billy you're gonna
be the final one on, This billy go.
Speaker 4 (01:50:12):
Ahead hey.
Speaker 17 (01:50:14):
Guys first of, all great show this, morning AND i
think you should be talking about.
Speaker 4 (01:50:19):
It thank, YOU i really.
Speaker 17 (01:50:20):
Do and you Know i'm well on record on fans
saying that they that they're entitled to this. Information the
media is entitled this, information all.
Speaker 1 (01:50:30):
Right that's a.
Speaker 17 (01:50:30):
Job you guys have a job to, make head, of
a job to, do and you deserve the information because
you're the ones that are out there. Reporting like any
reporter does his, job, well he's got to have information
from the. Source but AS i was in in here
thinking and you guys caused. This you made me, think
AND i appreciate.
Speaker 7 (01:50:48):
IT i really.
Speaker 17 (01:50:48):
DO i open my eyes a little.
Speaker 1 (01:50:49):
Bit the people who.
Speaker 17 (01:50:51):
Should be up in arms about this and furious is
the season ticket. Holders those are the ones should be
pounded to the drum On dana On crane about not
getting information on what players are going to be on
the field for them to. Watch they're the ones that
are funding a lot of this team and they deserve the.
Speaker 1 (01:51:11):
Information.
Speaker 17 (01:51:11):
More i've been in the medical, FIELD i can tell
you the FIRST, MRI i was probably not going to
show the break and they didn't do ANOTHER mri because
of the fact that he wasn't feeling any, pain so
they didn't feel an obligation to do.
Speaker 1 (01:51:24):
It they should, have but they, didn't and the next
one it showed. It but all this that's that's just.
Speaker 17 (01:51:29):
Secondary they should be telling the, fans the specifically the
season ticket, holders when your don's going to be.
Speaker 4 (01:51:37):
Back AND i think that matters to.
Speaker 17 (01:51:40):
Me it matters more than anybody else because those are
the guys that are putting three four thousand dollars out
of season to support this. TEAM i just wanted to say.
That and once, again, GUYS i think you should be
talking about this as much as you. Can, thanks, guys
have a great.
Speaker 1 (01:51:53):
Show as always. Appreciate that is how you do a
Call gary in. Spring that is how you people tune
in because you want to why it is important and
he brought up a really good. POINT i appreciate What billy.
Said season ticket. Holders they want to know what they're
investing in when you can't have trust with your team
because of ownership and the general manager is keeping you
(01:52:15):
in the, wayside and again the. Media they want to
be able to trust the media when you're not able
to build that balance. Chemistry when you're not able to
have a middle, ground it automatically derails what is eventually
going to. Be, HEY i want to continue to go
invest in this, franchise all, Right so let's list some.
Speaker 5 (01:52:31):
Spirits lance mccullor is on the mound. Tonight what can we?
Expect talk about it Here Sean salisbury.
Speaker 6 (01:52:36):

plate with tras wealth. Listen if you're at a retirement,
stage or you're thinking about, retirement or you're twenty years.
AWAY i would say the closer you, are the more
urgent you should. Be but why not get out in
front of it and. Start so this is to. Everybody
make sure your wealth manage manager is stepping up and
(01:52:56):
talking to you about the risk tolerance and four to
one k rollover and and how much money you're gonna
need to retire and stay, retired all these things that
come to. Fruition are you prepared for downswings for you, know,
inflation for market infl all those things for market for national?
Speaker 1 (01:53:12):
Debt are you are you prepared for? It and if you're,
not you need a wealth.
Speaker 6 (01:53:16):
Manager and if you are prepared, good how about somebody
who stands shouldered shoulder with you that can help you
extend that so when you do, retire you don't have
to come out of retirement because, WELL i was. FORCED

Speaker 2 (01:54:11):

Speaker 1 (01:54:12):

way he's, built the lanky doess he is straight up
the tin man in the.
Speaker 4 (01:54:19):
Grip was the tin man the?
Speaker 1 (01:54:21):
Heart or was that the?
Speaker 4 (01:54:22):

tin man was the.
Speaker 1 (01:54:26):

cole gonna be with us for a few more.
Speaker 4 (01:54:49):
Minutes gordy gonna be in here for the final hour
of the.
Speaker 5 (01:54:52):
Show astro's back in action tonight taking on The pirates
In pittsburgh four Thirty astros on deck coming your way right.
There The atoms are going to deliver, that so you
guys will be working for. That, SEE i never have
a problem With it's it's one of those like you,
Know matt says That i'm like of all of the
people who takes more time off Than god on this
(01:55:14):
station and you're the one.
Speaker 1 (01:55:15):
That wants to time check. People you're the one that
wants to, combine, which by the, way it's not like.
That we have A ross coming back in to fill
in and a shows on. Deck you just get in
the extra forty five minutes of the. Eighteen it'll be
me on Tenth inning, Shows me on The Tenthenning show with.
You how about?
Speaker 5 (01:55:30):
That As game ONE Nba finals coming Up thursday And
oka see between the thunder And pacers and The texans
back on the OTA's practice field here in about thirty,
Minutes you're gonna be out there for. That so we
expect a full digestive breakdown from both you AND wex
coming up two to four.
Speaker 1 (01:55:47):
Thirty you already know what the show is going to be.
Today everything About Jalen smith taking on over For Ronald,
darby who had three practices and, realized, man that kid
FROM usc so much better than. Me let's go ahead
and hang up the cleats for.
Speaker 5 (01:55:57):
Good comes so a tough realization and maybe he did
realize that At lance mccullors junior. Tonight what is the
start that you look at with him and you, say
you know.
Speaker 1 (01:56:08):
What, okay six innings two and, runs six, strikeouts three.
WALKS i take. That that's.
Speaker 5 (01:56:14):
FAIR i was gonna go, five five and a, third, okay,
man the average, Start you go five and a, third
you hand it over to Say Steven okert, there sixth
and then hopefully be able to go your your top
three guys there at the. End that that would be
nice because you did have the off day, yesterday so
you're able to freshen these guys up a little, bit
(01:56:36):
get them back out, there and the good news has
been even through some of their weirder.
Speaker 4 (01:56:41):
Games that they've.
Speaker 5 (01:56:41):
Had, sure Last thursday and Last, saturday you didn't have
to Use Josh hater And Brian abray you all that much.
Speaker 1 (01:56:47):
If you were to trade the five and a third
for an extra two, outs but you give up an
extra run as long as your offense is, pooned do
you take?
Speaker 11 (01:56:54):
That?
Speaker 1 (01:56:55):
Oh, yeah?
Speaker 5 (01:56:55):
ABSOLUTELY i think even like if you get to That
pirate's bullpen and down by a run something like, THAT
i trust your ability to be able to come through
against those.
Speaker 4 (01:57:04):
Guys can you Match.
Speaker 1 (01:57:05):
Paul skins AND i mean, Yeah Paul skins and, innings that's.
Right that's WHY i wonder if.
Speaker 5 (01:57:09):
You can do that even if it is a two
to one, game and let's say that you're down to
one said the baseline is six. Innings, yes SO i
mean that's gonna Be the key is being able to run,
counts being able to you, know get that pitch count
up as much as, possible BECAUSE i, mean you also
do realize that he is still a young enough arm
and if you're The pirates and you're somewhat smart about,
(01:57:30):
this you don't want to put way too much on the. Guy, Yeah,
SO i, MEAN i do think if you can get
him into that hundred pitches by about six, innings you've
done your job.
Speaker 1 (01:57:38):
Tonight, however this is the one pitcher THAT i can
trust fully just because of What i'm looking at With Mitch,
keller and he's ass a one in seven, record you
feel pretty confident with the two fifteen era that you
can walk away with a. Win and if you can
walk away with a win against An astro's team that
does feel like it still has control of its destiny
and to win The Al, west he'd take. That in my,
Opinion when it comes down To Lance mcaller's first thirty,
(01:58:00):
pitch he gives me a solid first thirty pitches and
you're out of the first, inning and let's say you're
going into two outs in the. SECOND i think he
gives you six tonight if you're in the first inning
and thirty, PITCHES i agree with. You five and a.
THIRD i call out a quality start.
Speaker 5 (01:58:11):
That seemingly has been what it's has been his starts
IS i, mean you, know you might get a rocky first,
inning then he's able to settle in for a, couple
but then it's one of those oh, man you, know
twenty twenty five pitches there in that first. Inning things
you know need to kind of improve here if he's
gonna have the long game, going because if, not then
you start to get into that bullpen even.
Speaker 1 (01:58:29):
Earlier the thing for me is THAT i trust more
So lance given me six, tonight knowing THAT i can
turn to a combination Of O Kurt, Ort Brian, King Brian,
Abraid Yeah king a bray you hater in some. Capacity
then knowing that TOMORROW i may only Have gusto for
say four and a. THIRD i may only Have gusto
for three innings for that, matter AND i KNOW i
(01:58:50):
have to use my. Bullpen that's WHY i feel a
little bit more LIKE i got to put pressure On
lance to get me at least through five and then
again we can have that. Conversation does he go full?
Six does he go five and a? Third because IF
i want to make sure that my bullpen is at
Near Folk passey going into, tomorrow you're the, best.
Speaker 5 (01:59:04):
Buddy appreciate you hopping in with us this. Morning and uh,
again make sure That wex doesn't beat you on the
notes out At texans.
Speaker 1 (01:59:10):
Practice he already, is BUT i can't beat that.
Speaker 6 (01:59:12):
Man you know.
Speaker 1 (01:59:13):
That holy this was a good conversation to End gary's.
Speaker 5 (01:59:15):
Day maybe he'll involve you with walking out With. Wex
and that's so what we can absolutely hope for from
over there AT. Nrg All, right the go to Tron Chris,

Speaker 1 (02:01:55):
He had a home run sweets, okay one down with.
Speaker 5 (02:01:58):
THAT i think most of us would be down with that.
Tonight So, brandon we've talked about numerous. Times it seems
like the way that you play the game that it
usually plays out that. Way so we just we need
to start tailing your action on.
Speaker 1 (02:02:08):
That, yep.
Speaker 5 (02:02:10):

Going on the phone line seven one three two one
two five seven Ninety alexander And katie wants to weigh.
Speaker 4 (02:02:50):
In, alexander what's, up hey?
Speaker 11 (02:02:52):
MAN i just want to say love the. SHOW i
love all the segonments you guys, do and you guys
have changed my perspective on being AN ashes. FAN i
remember growing up as a kid like The Landsberg berking, There, Carlos, Lee, Hunter,
Pince The astros weren't the greatest, team and you, Know
ashes fans weren't filling up those, stadiums and so when
The asher started, WINNING i hated The. ASTROS i MEAN
(02:03:13):
i went to The World series game rooting for The
phillies and you, know making chance about The astros and
listen to the. Show you guys have changed my mind
and Now i'm finding myself checking THE mlb scores and
room for The asters when they're, winning and just love
what you guys are. Doing and thanks for changing my
mind on THAT i Appreciate.
Speaker 5 (02:03:30):
ALEXANDER i mean it's funny too that that he brings
this up IN. Triplei when when did you get To? Houston? Me,
yeah LIKE i came out here at, eighteen, okay so twenty.
Eighteen so so it was it was the new era
Of astros. Baseball Like that's the thing, that like it
reminds me of all the, time is that whenever you
(02:03:51):
know they lose a, game or you know they've lost
three or four in a, row and you know it's
the the sky is falling out there IS i always
try to remind myself AND i myself get caught up
in it AND i fall short of this Is oh,
man you guys have forgotten what it's like to be
An astros.
Speaker 1 (02:04:08):
Fan like you that's, it that's. It you don't remember
the lean.
Speaker 5 (02:04:13):
Times you don't Remember Corey sullivan on this, Team Jeff
keppinger on this. Team you, KNOW i, mean whoever else
said that was in that clubhouse that you're just, like,
man we have come a long way From bagwell And,
bigio haven't? We and even The bagwell And bigio, years
like it kind of got to a point where in
The dome and the early part of A Minute Maye
(02:04:34):
park where you're, like is this thing ever gonna? Happen
Like that's WHY i LIKE i brought up twenty seventeen,
earlier LIKE i felt, like if you lost THAT, lcs
this doesn't, Happen, like if you don't get to The
World series that that, year it feels like you're kind
of going to be in the mired cycle that you've been,
in that even in your successful, years that you're not
(02:04:55):
going to be able to, kick you, know kick down
the door and get on to the other.
Speaker 1 (02:04:59):
Side we saw it with The.
Speaker 5 (02:05:00):
Oilers luckily The rockets were able to win the world.
Titles BUT i, mean if you don't have, that then
you don't know what the other side looks. Like but
then we got, it and then you've kind of felt
that drug and you're, LIKE i want this every, year
like the parade in, Downtown LIKE i still remember the
parade in downtown in. Seventeen it was one of the
happiest days of my. LIFE i MEAN i was living
(02:05:22):
out of town at the time And gordia came back
in for, it AND i mean just all how happy everybody,
was AND i was just, LIKE i want this every
year like that to me is it's a charmed existence
to live. In but it is also too one of
those things that you remind yourself at times of, hey,
look even as bad as they might be at, times
(02:05:44):
and even though it doesn't look the way that it
used to look with this, team you're still living in charm.
Speaker 1 (02:05:50):
Times.
Speaker 9 (02:05:51):
YEAH i mean twenty two was incredible as, well with
what you did in that postseason where you didn't even you,
know your pitching was so dominant that were certain arms
you didn't even need to, use you. Know so, no
it's we've certainly been spoiled over the last decade with
the success of The, astros but it doesn't mean that
we can't you, know expectations aren't aren't still the same
(02:06:12):
and that you, know we expect big things out of.
Them and so, yeah here we are back into. It
let's see see what they do Against pittsburgh. Tonight but you, know,
again the good news is they continue to witness all
the turnover you've had from roster and. Everything who's what
the only constant still you have Is altuve and really
(02:06:33):
McCullers is from the early. SUCCESS i, MEAN i know
he's been absent the last couple of, years but it
was part of Both World series, teams and you, know
so you got those two guys still. Around but, yeah
the hope is that you can just continue to sustain the.
Success this is the THING i, thought you, buddy who
was a Big cardinals, fan and this is the thing
That cardinals couldn't, sustain was that you, know they would
(02:06:54):
they rebuilt their, system they had this great, run and
then they'd fall off for a year or, two and
then they come back and they'd have this run in
The Red. Sox they have like a Big World series
caliber run for a year or, two and then they
fall all the way back and bottom out and then
they kind of build it.
Speaker 1 (02:07:10):
Back The astros have not had that monster fall.
Speaker 9 (02:07:13):
OFF i, MEAN i guess you could say last year
that was their first big year of lack of success
or losing in the wildcard.
Speaker 1 (02:07:19):
Round but you still won the, division you still made the.
Speaker 9 (02:07:22):
Postseason so, YEAH i, mean the thing everybody keeps always
wants to, do you, know it's always do you look
at glass half, full of glass half, empty and the
glass half.
Speaker 1 (02:07:33):
Empty people want to, go, oh the windows.
Speaker 9 (02:07:35):
Closed This World series, team it's, Over AND i don't
know why people are so, Negative, nancy you want to
run to that so. Quick it's almost like you want
to be. RIGHT i told you this team was not
going to be. Good you, know it's, like, right why
do you, like why do you think the negative?
Speaker 5 (02:07:50):
Approach because we do it all the time with dynasties
and what The astros had done to everything you just laid.
Out it's been a. Dynasty it absolutely has. Been and
you hope that they're able to still be in that
realm of an organization at the. Moment BUT i mean
we always want it to come to an. END i
mean set it all the. Time When Nick saban was still,
(02:08:11):
Coaching oh, man when's he gonna? Retire when's he gonna?
Retire i'm, like why do you want him?
Speaker 2 (02:08:15):
To?
Speaker 9 (02:08:16):
Like what he's doing is pretty awesome to watch, well
and IT'S i think here's the fun.
Speaker 1 (02:08:20):
Thing is, like.
Speaker 9 (02:08:23):
When a team comes out of nowhere and win, something we, go,
oh that's. All when The chiefs And Patrick mahomes had
that first, success we, go, oh that's, awesome what a great.
Story and then they get back To Super bowl again and, go,
damn that is. Awesome but then by the third time
we go, oh NOW i don't like you. Anymore now
the fun underdog story is.
Speaker 1 (02:08:41):
Gone now we're starting to get all the calls from
the rest yea ra at.
Speaker 9 (02:08:45):
Bastards so that's that's what's funny about it is By
by in, seventeen, Everybody, oh, well that's what a great
story asks when their First World series and eighteen they
come up short against The Red, sox and nineteen they're you,
know they're they're back in The World series. Again it's, like,
oh great. Story and then twenty one and then it's,
like you, know, okay now it's now we've had a
little bit too much of. You now it's, like oh,
(02:09:07):
now and then of course the cheating scandal didn't, help but,
yeah it's just like you become The, warriors you Know Steph, Curry,
oh The david's a. Kid oh that's. Awesome and then
by the third, Championship, No i'm done with. You, Now
i've flipped fun. Story you're now.
Speaker 1 (02:09:21):
Hated now we want to see you Your.
Speaker 5 (02:09:23):
Doubtaul but THEN i think that there is something to
the bunker mentality of, that LIKE i, LIKE i feel,
like you, know especially after twenty, twenty that it raised
you kind of going shoulder to shoulder with people who
are fans just like you and being able to hold
those people Off LIKE i was, like you know, WHAT
i actually embraced.
Speaker 4 (02:09:42):
This NOW i kind of like.
Speaker 1 (02:09:43):
It oh, yeah.
Speaker 9 (02:09:44):
No the, cheating the side stealing thing rallied the fan
base that that you took ownership even more so of
this team and said bleep the haters and you know,
it and it became us against.
Speaker 5 (02:09:57):
Them WHEN I i had somebody at a game THAT
i was at when The astros were playing out of
town and they were doing the whole you, know cheater
thing all, THAT i just turned around AND i squawked
like a, parrot and they finally are, like what are you?
DOING i, go you sound like a. Parrot you're just
saying the same things that other people. Had what's your, opinion?
Chief And i'm, like, exactly just shut your mouth and
(02:10:18):
let me watch the. Game that's pretty much what it
came down.
Speaker 9 (02:10:20):
To i'm surprised IT'S i, mean for the most, part
it's gone, away but it stills. Wild when they're on
the road and now Two vay steps of the plate
and he gets the.
Speaker 1 (02:10:30):
Booze it's, like what do you bull? Itt for, well
it's pretty.
Speaker 5 (02:10:32):
Funny SO i was listening to The mariners And twins
on the way back home from the ballpark On, sunday
and guess who gets booed even in the Box carlos.
Speaker 1 (02:10:42):
Career oh, yeah.
Speaker 5 (02:10:43):
Yeah that's the thing THAT i love about this the
most is like The, mariners like the a's. Okay like
you had that clown who said that he broke the
rules to leave the press box to boo The astros DURING,
Covid so it's, like so you're booing guys that you
say broke the rules by breaking the got it? GOOD
a good idea by, You but like the shoehorning in
(02:11:04):
By rangers And mariners fans with, this it's, like if
there were people to feel slighted in, this you're not
in that.
Speaker 9 (02:11:11):
GROUP i gotta, say uh the uh? Color Gary, EARLIER i.
GET i get where he's coming. From you feel like
it's been talked about, it but like to your, point
he's the star player and he's out and it was you,
know whether it was missed, MISDIAGNOSIS a miss a, misdiagnosis
whatever it, is you know that the hand, THING i,
(02:11:33):
mean it's it's a huge. Story so to pull the
whole just watch the team and shut, up like, okay
like you can do that as a, fan but like
we're we're here to talk about the team on a daily,
basis and when the star player has an injury update
that oh there is a break in there after they
said there was no break we're gonna talk ABOUT.
Speaker 5 (02:11:50):
I mean in me and You, cole whoever it is
that's talking into these. Microphones we shouldn't control how you
enjoy this. Team it's not gonna it's not gonna change
HOW i enjoy this. Team ON i told you about
going to see him on the road. Ode that didn't
change me WHERE i just finally, said you know, what you're,
right you two rose behind.
Speaker 1 (02:12:05):
Me you know, What you're.
Speaker 5 (02:12:06):
Correct i'm no longer An astros fan because of what
you're seeing right.
Speaker 4 (02:12:10):
Now that has no bearing on.
Speaker 9 (02:12:12):
It it's almost like Uh, germany where you, like sit,
down enjoyed the. Game do you watch these? Players don't
talk about injuries.
Speaker 1 (02:12:19):
Now don't talk to it BECAUSE i. DON'T i don't.
Know you don't talk to. Me you don't have anything
to say to. Me i'm here to root for my.
Team you're here to root for your. Team that's.
Speaker 9 (02:12:27):
FINE i mean, again we can talk about the players
that are, playing and we, do but they were at
an off day. Yesterday so but but, yes The ordon
story is absolutely one of the biggest stories in. Sports
he is a top twenty player in baseball and was
on the doorstep of, returning we, thought and then we find,
Out oh, no there's a fracture and it's sixty. Percent,
hell how much do you think it is? Today do
(02:12:48):
you think it's sixty five, percent sixty six, percent sixty
two and a, half sixty two point, five sixty. Nine
we're gonna be getting that. Nice you had to just
throw that in, there didn't.
Speaker 4 (02:12:58):
You he's the.
Speaker 5 (02:12:59):
Goat he joins us here on the, show of, course
Every tuesday And thursday courtesy Of Carbock. Brewing might need
Some Carbock brewing after some of these calls earlier today
to your, points so you, know if you have some
at your, desk please share with the. Class uh seven
two five seven ninety the number two get. In we've
been talking a lot about the expectations For lance mccullors,
(02:13:21):
tonight but also to expectations for this guy on the.
Roster talk about him next year on The Sean Salisbury,
Show Sports talk seven.
Speaker 1 (02:13:31):
Ninety we're gonna have to turn this matter over To
Sean oh no More Sean salisbury On Sports talk seven.
Speaker 9 (02:13:41):
Ninety but you, know sounds like that kind of closes
the book on. That so he was An american who
was overseas or.
Speaker 5 (02:13:50):
Not sure if he was An american or you know what,
nationality but that he was he was somebody that fit that.
Speaker 1 (02:13:58):
Profile. Interesting, YEAH i.
Speaker 9 (02:14:03):
See that's WHERE i, LIKE i get it's very interesting
in this day and age is social media because people,
say people are so quick to go he's getting death,
threats death, Threats AND i, go define a death threat
like if somebody, said somebody On twitter, goes you, know
you blow a game or.
Speaker 1 (02:14:21):
Something somebody tweets to kill. Yourself, okay it's a it's a.
Speaker 9 (02:14:23):
Stupid internet, comment you shouldn't make that, comment but it's
truly a death. THREAT i, mean that's that's where it's
LIKE I i and then some people would, say well
we should stop all hate and so and that should
be treated as a death. THREAT i get. It but,
like to, me a death threat is somebody climbs in
THE dms and GOES i know your address And i'm
coming for your. Family that is a death. Threat that
(02:14:44):
is absolutely called the police and you, know and. Whatever
if that guy said something like, that absolutely there's no
there's no room for. That BUT i just think that
happens way too much in sports, now like with a
lot of college athletes to be, like he was getting
death threats online and then you go read the tweets
and they're.
Speaker 1 (02:15:00):
Like you, suck, dude you should go die in a.
Speaker 9 (02:15:03):
Fire you, know it's like that's it's terrible internet, fodder
but it's not necessarily a death.
Speaker 5 (02:15:08):
Threat well it's ALSO i, mean this isn't to discount
What lance, said because Obviously lance n the astros felt
strongly enough that they needed to act on, this and
they did and hopefully this is the end of. That
but remember When jim mcawayin was At florida and he
said that players were getting death threats and then he
got questioned on it and people were, like, like where
are these like not seeing these and that was pretty
(02:15:31):
much like where they were, like all, right so you
lied to the, Administration you're out of.
Speaker 2 (02:15:33):
Here what was?
Speaker 5 (02:15:35):
That and, mcawaine remember it was twenty, seventeen and then
like they were like all, right Well, jim like where
are These like we're not seeing these, Right and then
it was just kind of, like, oh, okay so you
just kind of made this. Up well we've been looking
to fire. You now we've got a.
Speaker 1 (02:15:49):
Reason, yeah you become the.
Speaker 9 (02:15:51):
Sympathetic like if you do something, bad the the quick
flip is to become the. Victim, right, well but these
people are doing this to, me so then we forget
about all the whatever bad thing you did because now
you're the. Victim so but uh, NO i do like
THE ncaa has uh they they've they've Been have you
(02:16:11):
seen these commercials running called A.
Speaker 5 (02:16:14):
Yeah it was as soon as LIKE i saw this
story come down About. Lance it was like immediately As
i'm watching the, regionals that commercial comes across AND i,
go that's.
Speaker 4 (02:16:22):
Timely, YEAH i.
Speaker 9 (02:16:23):
Mean, this you knew this was gonna come. Though when
you legalize sports betting in somebody in so many, states Not,
texas get off your, Ass North. Dallas maybe let's pass. Something,
no our lieutenant, governor you know what he's worried about right.
Now Thc, oh it's the gateway to. Drugs drugs are, Bad,
okay come, on, dude what are you? Doing hey man
that cut his teeth in this, industry it was to, me,
(02:16:45):
WELL i can't bet on a Freaking astros game or you,
know AN mL less, game because you KNOW i Got
Mattress max gotta drive across state lines to go play sports.
Speaker 1 (02:16:56):
Bets it's absolutely.
Speaker 5 (02:16:58):
RIDICULOUS i, Mean i've had that conversation numerous times with
people like where it's you, know what's it hurting? You
IF i want to do my ten dollars parlay on my,
phone that's that's that's not.
Speaker 9 (02:17:08):
Hurting an article this, morning AND i don't want to
get too often to the Politics, swedes but no police.
Do there was an article this morning's basically saying, like,
okay kids, vaping it's not the best, thing but it's
better than the, alternative doing hard. Drugs and they're, like,
no these are bad, too we gotta get rid of.
This so, okay well let's not latch and then what's
what's gonna happen.
Speaker 1 (02:17:26):
Kids in hard.
Speaker 5 (02:17:26):
Drugs that's what kind of reminds me, of you, know
people who were talking about The Stefan diggs video that
was out. There it was like he was on a
yacht and maybe he was doing something he shouldn't have. Done, okay,
fine it's called drug. Testing that usually takes care of.
Speaker 9 (02:17:39):
That, yeah it's just it's it's so wild when when
there are people who are, like we want our, freedoms
want our individual, freedoms want all our individual. Freedoms, oh
you can't bet on. Sports, no you can't do. That it's, like,
dude do you believe in individual freedom or? Not come,
on let people make the decisions for. Themselves we got
to protect you against. Yourself, YUP i alcohol A sunday.
(02:18:01):
Morning that's because you're just you're the devil's gonna get
to you and you're gonna do bad. Things and, also
you can't bet on that baseball game. Tonight, Okay well
they got to go to another state to do it.
Speaker 5 (02:18:08):
Legally, well you know IF i go by a twelve
ract there in the, morning And Saint peter, says, yeah
you know that that One june day when you went
and bought it there at the.
Speaker 4 (02:18:18):
Store we were talking about it up. Here we weren't
too keen on.
Speaker 9 (02:18:21):
That look as backwards As louisiana is and, things they
figured this thing out very, quickly and we're, like, oh sports.
Speaker 1 (02:18:28):
Betting, yeah let's just tax it and we'll get our
cut and we'll be.
Speaker 9 (02:18:31):
Good and they've been phenomenal with, it all the casinos In,
louisiana with the sports books and all. That And i'm
not saying you have to build casinos In, texas but
just online sports. Betting be able to make a mobile
bet on your phone when all the sports leagues. Have
you go to The texans, games you go To rockets,
games you go To, Astros FanDuel Draft.
Speaker 1 (02:18:49):
Kings it's all. THERE i mean we even already have
it with the individual like.
Speaker 5 (02:18:52):
Fantasy it's, like, okay you're already allowing it to a,
point like just take just like a slight step for Further,
Okay Like i'm not asking for the brick and mortars,
here but like you, know everything i've, heard allow me
have a little fun with the.
Speaker 9 (02:19:06):
Action EVERYTHING i have heard is is mostly those casinos
In South oklahoma lining the pockets of The North dallas
politicians saying don't legalize it. There we want your people
driving across the border here coming over to our casinos and.
Speaker 1 (02:19:22):
Betting, brother you just mentioned.
Speaker 5 (02:19:24):
IT i, mean you spent a lot of your life
in Southern louisiana And louisiana. Politics you know how that.
Goes there's always something that's in. Here, oh this guy's
very passionate about. It oh he, Is, well who's bankrolling? Him,
well let's let's take a look at. That oh, OKAY
i get.
Speaker 4 (02:19:42):
It, NOW i.
Speaker 1 (02:19:42):
UNDERSTAND i can understand. Why you know you have.
Speaker 5 (02:19:46):
People, look the money keeps you in, power so you
want to be able to keep that money. HAPPY i
just it's so.
Speaker 9 (02:19:52):
Frustrated I'm i'm in text groups with friends all all
over the, country and they all every one of my
friends lives in a state with legal ie sports, betting
and yet HERE i can't make a futures bet on
you OF h to win The big twelve because betting's.
Speaker 1 (02:20:08):
Bad would that be football or? Basketball that you would
do these either?
Speaker 11 (02:20:11):
One?
Speaker 1 (02:20:11):
Whatever?
Speaker 4 (02:20:12):
No, no, no, no, NO i mean for the sake
of like what you would possibly be going down this.
ROUTE i have to.
Speaker 1 (02:20:16):
KNOW i was thinking, football you get really good.
Speaker 9 (02:20:18):
Odds, basketball they're gonna be the prohibit of, Favor they're
probably gonna be the preseason number one. Team so there's
not much value in betting you OF h to win
the national Championship in. Basketball, okay all, RIGHT i got
you on.
Speaker 5 (02:20:29):
THAT i, mean it's you, know just sometimes you just
got to, Wonder, like you, know we all have those
friends like even like one of mine will bet on
Women's european soccer And i'm, like you know nothing about, That,
like what are you?
Speaker 1 (02:20:39):
Doing? No oh, man but the odds are, great, dude,
again what do you know about? IT i Think i'm
going up to the.
Speaker 5 (02:20:46):
WINDOW i at least want to have somewhat of an
idea that, hey maybe this money will come back to.
Speaker 1 (02:20:50):
ME i do think it's worth A.
Speaker 9 (02:20:53):
I don't, know twenty dollars flyer on you of h
football With Connor wegman And Willie fritz win The big.
Speaker 5 (02:20:59):
Twelve, WELL i, mean Remember i've told you the story
that every single TIME i would go To vegas during
the off season for college, FOOTBALL i would make Three heisman,
bets and the one that people made fun of me
for the most Was Joe. Burrow, well they weren't really
making fun of me once that check came to. Me,
yeah because the other two Were jake from And Tua
tongue ABOUT looa didn't really work out for the other two.
Speaker 4 (02:21:21):
Guys, yeah That's, okay that's not.
Speaker 1 (02:21:23):
Bad do you.
Speaker 9 (02:21:24):
KNOW i went back that going into that. Game When
elosh played At alabama in twenty, Nineteen bama was the
favorite in that game and people were Thought tua was
going to Outplay. Burrow Now toua was. In he got
hit early in that, game it got injured right and
played through the. Injury but, yeah that was like the
national consensus was everybody was on, board like two is
(02:21:46):
going to be the number one pick in the draft
and all, this And Joe burrow was Not Joe burrow
yet that game's kind of cemented him, as.
Speaker 1 (02:21:52):
Oh, okay this is a. Dude well.
Speaker 5 (02:21:54):
Daarrey that was A Clyde Edwards hilaire. Game Clyde Edwards
hilaire went off in that. Game it was one of
the things we, Remember, hey by the, way.
Speaker 9 (02:22:00):
And Our Derek stingley gets beat LSU's up double digits
with like a minute to. Go, yeah They alabama, SCORED i,
think or, no they got the ball back And LSU's, like, ah,
whatever that's the game's. Over AND i think was That
Davante smith Hits Derek stingly on a on a Completely
derek was looking to the, sideline not even paying attention
(02:22:22):
and beats him on a fly round and makes it
makes it a one score, game but.
Speaker 5 (02:22:26):
He had to recover the on side, kick and then
at that point it was, like we finally beat these.
Guys speaking OF, lsu shout out to uh AND i
hate to do this for a pious, guy But Cason
evans last night for The tigers going out there and
shoving to send them on to the super. Regionals so,
yes you further, Down, SHEPHERD i will give you credit
when it's somewhat.
Speaker 1 (02:22:45):
Due Same.
Speaker 4 (02:22:46):
Pius, yeah he went TO spx a great. School oh,
WELL i mean.
Speaker 5 (02:22:51):
Great great might be a loose, interpretation but, anyway eagle
fight never.
Speaker 1 (02:22:57):
Dies we all know HOW i feel that that's the
big rival For. St Thomas.
Speaker 4 (02:23:01):
St.
Speaker 5 (02:23:01):
Pias, yeah, nowadays BECAUSE i mean Once drake started to
GO uil and started to get just a different class of,
athlete it wasn't really a competitive game.
Speaker 4 (02:23:10):
Anymore so, yeah that was that was usually all part of.
Speaker 1 (02:23:13):
It That's strake.
Speaker 5 (02:23:15):
Jesuit, yeah they went a lot, Baseball, no not as,
much like you, know we've got a mutual buddy of
ours and they're looking at schools for, kids and he
was like you, know, Hey Saint, thomas you know what you?
Speaker 4 (02:23:29):
THINK i, Said, well your son's a baseball. Player look
at the.
Speaker 5 (02:23:32):
Track record over, there and look at the track record
further Down Bell Or. Boulevard that's all you need to.
Know his bie still hang out?
Speaker 1 (02:23:38):
There well was?
Speaker 5 (02:23:39):
It cavin just got his number retired over, There SO
i THINK i think he'll stop by every once in a.
While hell of, Facility like there are a high school.
Facility there are college facilities that don't look as nice
as the one they've got over, There like it looks
like A d one baseball.
Speaker 1 (02:23:53):
Field love.
Speaker 9 (02:23:57):
It, well when you're writing that check back to the
The Dan matthews training, facility you know right that.
Speaker 5 (02:24:02):
Still still waiting for the account to be able to
flush up a little bit before we start getting into
that tax. Bracket but, anyway let's get back into The diastros.
Conversation we had this conversation, Earlier gordy About Jacob. Melton
we've seen one game out of him so, far but
what can we. Expect we'll dive into that if you
want to jump In sebon one three two one two
five seven ninety AGAINST seb one three two one two
(02:24:23):
five seven. Ninety it Is Sean Salisbury Show Sports talk
seven ninety.
Speaker 1 (02:24:27):
AND i had to live out, there but The Sean
Salisbury show.
Speaker 5 (02:24:30):
Continued either of those, guys give, him give him a,
fallow give him a, shout and be able to get
all the Texans ota news you can ever ask for
and handle any?
Speaker 1 (02:24:41):
Word yet IS. Cj stroud throwing a?
Speaker 5 (02:24:43):
Football have not seen anything just, yet but my notifications are.
On so IF i, know you will, know and maybe
we'll even have you, Know TRIPLE a throw the breaking
news sounder out there for. That if you want, THAT
i can do. That, okay fair, enough So tripley be
on your. TOE i was back there just to make
sure we're ready for. That Jacob, Melton larry see you're
(02:25:04):
right there At gatina. Second But Jacob, MELTON i, mean you,
know it's it's one of those of a guy that
we've heard about for a long. Time finally got to
see him first game On, sunday gets a hit in.
It that's nice to see. Him played a serviceable center
field that was good to see as. Well but it
is also you, know where you're getting to the point
of this farm, System, gordy where you're not getting the
(02:25:25):
game changers. Anymore you're not getting the guys that Oh
man been really waiting.
Speaker 7 (02:25:29):
On this.
Speaker 5 (02:25:29):
Guy he's going to make a massive difference once he
gets up. HERE i just think that the expectations for
me is a, guy well this is it's the same
thing you did last year With joey Low.
Speaker 9 (02:25:38):
Perfito it was like he was getting hot In TRIPLE
a and everybody was kind of talking about. Him melton
wasn't exactly on that, heater but he was playing well
and so for him to get to get the call.
Speaker 1 (02:25:48):
Up he's your number two, prospect AND i understand your
prospects are.
Speaker 9 (02:25:52):
Not you, know it's funny, like was it a year
or so ago we were talking about The astro's best
prospects and none of them were ranked in the top one.
Hundred cam smith sert as soon as you acquired, him
he instantly became your number one top prospect and he
was a top one hundred. Prospects so good to have
him in. There but, yeah as it says right, Now
Bryce matthews is your top. Prospect, he's you, know been
(02:26:12):
having a nice here In. Sugarland Jacob melton was your
number two And Walter Janick. Annick he's your number, three the,
catcher and there's been a lot of buzz with him
getting a promotion down there in.
Speaker 14 (02:26:26):
The.
Speaker 9 (02:26:26):
Minors but outside of, THAT i, Mean Colton gordon was
your number fourteen and he's been okay so. Far Shay
whitcomb is your number. Fifteen he's back up here with
the big league. Club so that's kind of where you.
Are did See Colin BARBER i think just got promoted
From DOUBLE a to Sugar. Land, yeah so he's been
promoted to the Sugar Land Space. Cowboys another outfielder, Prospect
(02:26:49):
so good for. Him but, yeah you're, right LIKE i
mean WE i, mean, shoot a decade, ago we were
sitting here waiting For when's When's springer going to get the?
Speaker 1 (02:26:57):
Call Win's craig going to get the? Call When's brignant
gonna get the?
Speaker 9 (02:27:00):
Call and all these big time prospects that were all
first round picks that you're waiting, on they really haven't
had that.
Speaker 5 (02:27:06):
Well and it's a trade off, though, too because you
get those guys because you're so, bad whereas where The
astros have been drafting later on in the, draft maybe
you'll get a guy that can kind of sneak through
here and, there and then of, course you, know you
had a couple of years where you didn't have a
first round pick because of what happened and came out
in twenty, twenty so that's kind of hurt your development
(02:27:27):
a little.
Speaker 4 (02:27:28):
BIT i, mean it kind of.
Speaker 5 (02:27:28):
Seems like they're getting their footing all over, again AND
i mean, again you, know still having the draft for
they where they.
Speaker 9 (02:27:36):
Do, YEAH i, mean, Look i'm my expectations and hope
are That Jacob melton does. Well Camp smith just coming
off a really nice month In may that he, had
so you, know the hope is those guys continue to
develop and. Grow but it is wild to think that
this team has postseason deep postseason aspirations and you have
a rookie number four in your, rotation a rookie number
(02:27:57):
five in your rotation at a rookie centerfielder and reichfielder
in the mix. Here so you, KNOW i Expect Jake
myers is going to play a little bit more Than Jacob.
Melton But melton's up here and he's gonna play.
Speaker 5 (02:28:08):
Well he GOT Mlb central on in the, studio AND
i guess It's Joel sherman is that who that guy
is surprising teams that could be sellers at the trade
deadline in The Houston.
Speaker 4 (02:28:16):
Astros without knowing what he, SAID.
Speaker 5 (02:28:19):
I was, like can, like you guys who honestly consider
yourselves to be insiders be less in touch with how
actual teams do their.
Speaker 9 (02:28:28):

the big, Thing Texas live or?
Speaker 1 (02:28:41):

all the.
Speaker 9 (02:28:43):
TVs he was sitting at the bar by himself all,
night eating nachos and he having a pint of, beer
and uh, yeah that's the life of the sports. Writer
literally just by himself all night at a at a sports,
bar no sports.
Speaker 1 (02:28:56):
TRAVEL i mean it does lend to.
Speaker 4 (02:28:58):
That you, Know i'm not a post, look.
Speaker 1 (02:29:00):
But this is the sports writer for The New York.
Post this is like one of the biggest baseball. Writers
and there is.
Speaker 9 (02:29:05):
Solo it's Like Jeff passing sitting. There, well he gets
out to rage against the machine songs by. Himself yeah, right,
yeah he can sit by. Himself but, no, honestly like
when it comes to, that like If i'm on the road.
TRAVELING i love.
Speaker 5 (02:29:19):
Doing that of going to a place checking it out
myself BECAUSE i think in my, MIND i almost think
Like I'm Anthony, bourdain you, know going to find a,
place and then you, know for the day THAT i,
have like my cooking travel, show then you KNOW i
can be able to go back to these.
Speaker 9 (02:29:31):
PLOTS i do remember being on the field At Globe
Life park what it is field, whatever the ballpark In,

rod to come over and, SAY i really enjoyed the
piece you.

Great?
Speaker 4 (02:31:54):
Buddy how are?
Speaker 8 (02:31:54):
You?
Speaker 14 (02:31:55):
Hey me's too? Bad, HEY i want to ask you
a question about The astros game the other. Night first five,
batters first five, pitches five.
Speaker 18 (02:32:04):
Connections did the pitcher officially ever record a? Pitch because
there weren't any balls. Thrown there weren't any strikes. Thrown
it was just five straight hits that resulted.
Speaker 14 (02:32:17):
In one, run three. OUTS i had a debate with a,
BUDDY i, say there's no pitches, thrown even though there
was five.
Speaker 11 (02:32:26):
In his pitch.
Speaker 14 (02:32:26):
Count i'm just curious from an official score book or
five pitches.
Speaker 5 (02:32:31):
THROWN i Guess i'm Maybe i'm not following with where
you're going with.
Speaker 1 (02:32:39):
THIS i prefer a flyout to. HAPPEN a pitch has
to be, Thrown, LARRY.
Speaker 14 (02:32:43):
I agree with.
Speaker 2 (02:32:44):
YOU i agree with.
Speaker 14 (02:32:44):
You but in a, scorebook you don't record any, balls
or any strikes or any fell.
Speaker 1 (02:32:49):
Balls it was a. STRIKE i mean it's technically it's,
OH i get what you're.
Speaker 4 (02:32:53):
Saying.
Speaker 5 (02:32:53):
Yeah so like the pitch count that they have out
in right field where you can, see Like lance McCullers
has fifty four, pitches twenty nine of them are, Strikes
like a ball put in play is considered to be a.
Speaker 9 (02:33:04):
Strike, okay all, right that was the. Debate, yeah because
the batter. Swung anytime the batter, swings it's a. Strike,
yeah there you.
Speaker 14 (02:33:14):
Go, okay all, Right well it was just so.
Speaker 11 (02:33:16):
UNUSUAL i, mean it's so alto, bay you, know to
swing at.
Speaker 14 (02:33:20):
The first pitch that have five guys do it in a.
ROW i just never seen that.
Speaker 4 (02:33:24):
Before, yeah it was. ODD i, mean and appreciate the. Call,
YEAH i. Forgot that's how the game started the other.
Speaker 5 (02:33:31):
Day is that you Get Todd bradley to throw five
pitches and you do put up a run in it
because you Get penia and then you Get Christian. Walker
all five batterers were saw one one. Pitch, WELL i,
mean you, know you want to be. Aggressive you get your,
pitch you get it right, there go ahead and swing at.
It sometimes we've been clamoring for.
Speaker 9 (02:33:50):
This LINEUP'S i, mean that's the secret is sometimes that's
THE uh scouting report says he throws a lot of
first pitch, strikes so come out swinging and, Yeah paina
reaches on a it should have been. Out it was
a ground ball that ends up being a fielding. Error
he Reaches paraates flies out to, short two big grounds.
(02:34:10):
Out the, Third Christian walker singles to left run scores
and Then yonardaz lines Out Bengo Bengo.
Speaker 5 (02:34:17):
Bongo well ended up working out because your pitchers didn't
allow any, Runs so when that, happens you usually give
yourself a nice little chance to be able to.
Speaker 1 (02:34:26):
Win joe spot of getting with the pitching. Staff, hey
guys really need you guys to be on.
Speaker 9 (02:34:30):
Tonight if you could just pitch a, shutout that'd be
great because offense may only score one run, tonight so
you guys could really just be flawless.
Speaker 1 (02:34:38):
Tonight that'd be, fantastic especially tonight.
Speaker 5 (02:34:40):
Too BUT i, mean this is a series that you
feel like you got a pretty good shot at being
able to get out of here. WITH i, mean tonight
could be, tough even THOUGH i mean you mentioned. It
yesterday's skiings four and five on the, Year so it's
not like they don't lose games one.
Speaker 9 (02:34:53):
NOTHING i, mean that's that's Very royo's walt there two fifteen.
Era but a four and five Record.
Speaker 4 (02:35:00):
Fromer from, well not e r A, wise but that Was.
Speaker 9 (02:35:02):
Fromer dude goes out, there basically gives them six innings
of one run ball every time, out and he takes.
Speaker 5 (02:35:08):
Losses and the two times That Hunter brown has lost this,
year one of them won nothing and the other one
was what three to two to The mets second game
of the, year three starts.
Speaker 9 (02:35:16):
Ago Paul skeins against The phillies went eight innings of
one run ball.
Speaker 1 (02:35:20):
And took the, loss lost one.
Speaker 5 (02:35:22):
Nothing, yeah that's one of those where you sail the
right things into the, microphone but then probably you, know
heading to the, shower you're, like.
Speaker 2 (02:35:29):
Oh.
Speaker 9 (02:35:31):
He went six innings of two run, ball they lost
two to. One he Took, now all, right so two
runs and you get the job. Done That it's that's.
Nuts so, YEAH i mean that's the thing is, like,
yeah runs will be not a plenty eat. Tonight you
just need to land some callers to be in, control
because that's the. Thing pittsburgh doesn't score very.
Speaker 1 (02:35:50):
Much real quick.
Speaker 5 (02:35:53):
Here as we hadn't gotten into a ton OF nfl,
