Speaker 1 (00:02):
Saulsby.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Okay, let's do this. Sewn Salisbury to usc true, longtime friend,
Shawn Salisbury, Bryan Lima, go Lobos. This is the Sean
Salsbury Show.
Speaker 1 (00:22):
Astro is winning the Silver Boots Series for the eighth
time in a row. Feels good, feels fantastic, better than
being on the other side.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
Yeah, you say.
Speaker 1 (00:34):
Kakuci against the Rangers yesterday afternoon, five and a third, four, hits,
two and runs eight k so far in his tenure
with the Astros in two games, eleven innings, pitch seven,
hits four and runs nineteen ks. Oh you know, I
mean won the ALCS last year. We get it, broke
up the no hitter. Yeah, of course we get it.
That ball would have been out of the Mickey mouse Ballpark.
Doesn't matter anymore. You lost, deal with it. Just just
(00:56):
just deal with it. It's fine. Hey, look, you know,
I mean, you become the mountain, then everybody wants to
try to traverse the mountain. Then the Astros of the
Mountain of the American League, they are inevitable. Now they're
on a top of the eight or best couple of times. Yeah, yeah,
and I think they'll be there to win the division
again because the Mariners, I know they got good pitching,
their offense is not very good.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
I just don't know if they.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
Have what it takes to stay in the hunt, at
least as long as the Astros offense can get guys
in runners in scoring position, which we just saw just
a couple of days ago.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
They were not being successful with that.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
Last night thirteen hits, or excuse me, yesterday afternoon thirteen hits,
day before that, eleven hits. So the offense looks a
little bit better as of late, but there are still
some things that need to be shirt up. Chas McCormick,
Jake Myers, Mauricio Dubon, that whole uh what do you
want to call it? Center field platoon thing? Yeah, I mean,
you know Dubon obviously with everywhere else, but I mean, yeah,
(01:55):
there's there's been holes in this lineup at times this year,
and it's really amplified when you don't hit the baseball.
And when Al two, Ve Bregman and Jordan had not
been hitting the baseball, well, then you start to see
those sports a little bit. Yeah, speaking of Jordon, he
hit a ball off the bat one hundred and seventeen
miles an hour for a home run yesterday. I mean,
(02:15):
couldn't have gotten more than twenty feet off the ground
and stayed that way until it finally smoked that back
wall of the Rangers' bullpen. I mean, my goodness, it's
pretty impressive. Man, al two ve had a hit yesterday,
bregmant with two. Alvarez obviously that big time home run.
He was walked twice. Yainer three for five with a strikeout.
(02:37):
I don't care about the strikeout. Three more hits. He
sitting three hundred on base of three twenty eight and
four to forty one slugging.
Speaker 2 (02:43):
He just continues to be consistent.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
I mean, that's That's the other part of this as well,
is I mean, you know you've looked for guys outside
of your main guys, and you know I've mentioned the
main guys, but I mean last year, that's why Chas
McCormick was so beloved. Hey use this guy more, because
when you put him in, he's hitting baseball and he's
able to come through for you. So Jiner being able
to become who Astros fans had hoped he would be.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
Yep, it's helped. It's been a massive factor this year.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
Yeah, he's been really, really, really good. Let's look at
some updated standings across Major League Baseball. Orioles and Yankees
tied in the AL East, you got the Guardians three
and a half up on the Twins. In the AL Central,
Astros up a half game on the Mariners. The Rangers
are five and a half back. I can't wait for
the Mariners, or excuse me, for the Rangers to be
mathematically eliminated from the wild card and the playoffs. What
(03:33):
the biggest Fluke World Series of all time? I'm telling you.
And that's the thing too, is as I get it too. Look,
if the shoe were on the other foot, Astros fans
would act the exact same way if last year had
played out a certain way. Let's let's be honest with ourselves.
But it's just more of kind of I think the
response is who the hell are you? Yeah, like, that's
(03:54):
that's what it is. It's I can't remember Phil with
DK metcalf, I can't remember what play was at that
La High school and the kid was like, you know,
your trash or whatever, and his response was just simply,
who are you?
Speaker 2 (04:07):
Like, That's that's what it is. It's it's it's who
are you?
Speaker 1 (04:11):
And and there's there's no better insult to a troll
than kind of like on on mad Men. You know, uh,
what's it? You know, I don't even think about you anymore?
And he goes, I don't even think about you at all.
It's a good quote, it is. That is a good quote,
especially in that in that movie, this movie, right show Show. Yeah,
(04:31):
John Ham, I never really wanted much of different, but
I mean there's there's a lot of teachable moments.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
On that one. What am I thinking of? You said
mad Men? Madmen? Yeah, I think of it was a
good Yeah. I like that quote, though.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
I mean I just think with the Rangers, uh, they're
five and a half back and they're just not very
good at all. Scarcia, you see what he's been doing lately,
it's he sucks.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
He's been garbage. Great.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
No, And that's the thing too, is you know their
big thing is kind of in the same mold of
the Astros. It's just been more prolonged. They can't hit.
I mean, that's that's their problem. If if Corey Seger
doesn't hit, that team doesn't hit. And I mean it's
played out the way that it has this year, and also,
you know, like the Astros injuries to the pitching staff
(05:14):
and they've been counting on getting guys back. I mean
they're kind of in a similar situation right now with
Jacob deGrom, where you'd love to see Jacob deGrom. But
then my response to those same people is the same
response I'm gonna have to people if Lance mccullors can
give it a go next year.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
It's missed almost two years. Yeah, Like that's a lot
of time.
Speaker 1 (05:30):
Yeah, So like if you're just expecting that guy to
be that guy after missing that amount of time, usually.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
Doesn't work out that way.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
Lance Culors hasn't pitched in a game since like November
of twenty twenty two, which was the World Series, and
he got shelled against the Phillies. I love Lance, I
won't well, yeah, And that's the thing is, you know,
if he is able to come back next year and
start off the season, I just think that it's gonna
have to be kind of tempered expectations. I think, you know,
the Jacob de gram situation for the Rangers. Now, Jacob
(05:58):
d Grom is a much better pitcher than Luis Corse,
but Luis Garcia, how much can he help out this year?
Speaker 2 (06:03):
If anything, you're running out of time. It's not only you're.
Speaker 1 (06:06):
Running out of time, but it's also I mean, you've
missed it almost a year and a half at this point,
and I mean you're almost you know, running into two
years at that point. But I mean, you know, we
talked about it earlier with Kyle Tucker. It's the same
deal here. You'd maybe be looking at him as a
strict relief role, an inning maybe, And then the effectiveness
(06:28):
kind of comes in the question as well, because, like
I said about Kyle Tucker, it's the same deal here.
You can throw every bullpen in the book, you can
throw every simulated game, you can do all of that.
There's nothing like having the fielders behind you, the catcher
behind the plate, umpires out there, the full crowd, all
of those different types of things.
Speaker 2 (06:45):
It definitely it takes the atmosphere up a notch. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (06:49):
I mean if whatever you can get from Louis Garcia
this year is going to be a bonus, a massive bonus.
Because you're seeing guys, you know, like Taylor Scott. Taylor
Scott has had a couple of outings. You may think
that he might be running into a wall because he's
never pitched this much. He's bounced around the league seven
teams in seven years. Obviously, this is the most he's
(07:09):
pitched with a big league club. I think he's over
fifty and a third innings now, which is a lot
for a reliever. So I think you might be running
into that. You got young guys in that bullpen. Obviously,
we've seen Brian A. Brady, Ryan Presley, and Josh Hater
so much this season, so you're gonna need some sort
of help in boost excuse me, in that bullpen, especially
(07:30):
down the stretch man, because it's going to come down
to the wire.
Speaker 2 (07:32):
I think, just looking.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
At it now, justin excuse me, Justin Berlander is gonna
have a rehab start this weekend in Sugarland, whether it's
Friday or Saturday, right, Okay, So you'll have him back,
you say, Kakuchi has pitched well into two outings, so
he's a part of your your rotation.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
Hunter Brown continues to pitch well.
Speaker 1 (07:50):
Spencer Araghetty doesn't have the win loss record, but he's
been striking out eight between eight and twelve over his
last couple of outings, so is playing yep. He's probably
gonna run into somewhat of a wall as well. Renel Blanco.
I think we're kind of seeing that a little bit,
but he still grinds his ass off through six. So
I think with all that being said, I think the
(08:10):
Astros will win the division, but it's not going to be.
At no point in time has it ever been easy
for this season, But down the stretch is not gonna
be easy because of the factors that I just mentioned. Well,
I mean, it's also I mean, you're just you're kind
of looking at a similar situation what you had last year,
where you're going into that Mariners series and you're saying,
I hope and then not only did you have to hope,
(08:30):
you had to go to Arizona and you had to
try to take care of business there. And that's a
life that we hadn't had to live here very often,
because more often than not, going into that Seattle series
in the past, it had been this thing's locked up,
just get healthy and let's get into the postseason. It also, too,
of all the names you just mentioned right there, you
didn't mention the guy that almost.
Speaker 2 (08:49):
Just threw a no no the other yea.
Speaker 1 (08:53):
In what he's been over these last few starts, I mean,
last eight starts that he's had, the Astros have won
even if he doesn't take the decision. Yeah, So I
mean he's been a huge added bonus. I mean, just
getting JV back makes you feel one thousand percent better
about this pitching staff than without him. Yes, and for
the obvious reasons for what he's done and what he
(09:15):
still could be, but it's also too at the same time.
I mean, you know, you're talking about some of the
guys in the bullpen that are starting to run into,
you know, career longs.
Speaker 2 (09:25):
In inningsings threshold.
Speaker 1 (09:27):
That's why it's important to get that six man rotation
right now, because you're able to have you know, less
of a workload on those guys and maybe, you know,
you kind of get to a point where those guys,
if you get into the postseason, flip that switch and
say hey, I'm back, I'm good. Let's let's let's hit
on the six man rotation, because Dana Brown's talked about
that a little bit more over the last couple of
(09:50):
weeks here on the Seawan Salisbury Show's talk about could
the Astros find themselves in a six man rotation?
Speaker 2 (09:55):
They need it.
Speaker 1 (09:55):
