Speaker 1 (00:02):
Salsbury.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Okay, let's do this Sewn Salisbury.
Speaker 3 (00:12):
To usc Troupe's longtime friend Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 4 (00:14):
Dan Matthew, excuse, this is the Sean Salisbury show.
Speaker 5 (00:23):
Smith waiting for an one.
Speaker 6 (00:25):
There goes Buyers, the pitch that's whacked down the right
field line, a fair ball down the line and hits
off the sideball racing around third Buyers, He'll score Smith
in a second with a game tig RBI double three
to three. The two to one round ball poll to
his left. The third basement fields and Williamson gets to
second for the force to retire the side. So the
(00:48):
Astros load the bases for a second straight inning, but
failed to score the one two and that is strike
three pall over.
Speaker 7 (00:56):
The outside corner.
Speaker 6 (00:57):
I think King wanted it in but while up over
the outer edge and a Rosa Raina not happy discussing
with last ts.
Speaker 7 (01:04):
But the side is retired.
Speaker 6 (01:06):
We go to the bottom of the ninth Astros seeking
their second walk off win of the season. Oh two
and that's hammered down to left field, light in deep and.
Speaker 7 (01:17):
Christian Rocker went it. Oh walk up to run homer
five to three.
Speaker 8 (01:23):
Houston A screaming lighter into the second row of the
landry's proffered boxes.
Speaker 5 (01:37):
There you go.
Speaker 9 (01:38):
That is how Sunday went inside dyke In Park and
the Astros off yesterday, but a nice day to be
able to enjoy a day off after Seventh Street, seventeen
straight games in seventeen days, and that off day probably
felt like it was still too short for the Astros,
(01:58):
but they went on Sunday five three over the Mariners,
take three out of four over the weekend two game series,
with the struggling Athletics coming up here a little bit
later on today, and with all that we say, away
we go and good morning here on the Sean Salisbury Show,
Dan Matthews here with you, Sean, it should be with
us here shortly.
Speaker 7 (02:19):
As Yeah, how about that? What's up, buddy? How you doing?
Speaker 5 (02:23):
I'm doing well, man? How are you?
Speaker 1 (02:24):
Oh?
Speaker 5 (02:25):
Man?
Speaker 7 (02:25):
Everything well?
Speaker 9 (02:26):
I mean, I would say everything is pretty good minus
where you are. You did not get to enjoy a
nice little los severe thunderstorm in the overnight hours.
Speaker 5 (02:37):
No, I sure didn't.
Speaker 10 (02:38):
As a matter of fact, it's been very calm and
sunny and in the nineties and dry for day after
day after day. So I hope everybody's okay, but I
know that thunderstorm hit pretty hard and I left.
Speaker 5 (02:50):
And Jordan was out.
Speaker 10 (02:52):
I'm back and Jordon's out, So that part of ground
Hog Day hasn't changed. And we said there was a
certain cutoff be concerned. We're past that point, so hopefully
it'll get back sooner than later. But it was good
to see Christian Walker take care of his business. You know,
when you're not in a city and you're traveling, which
I don't vacation much, has been about seven eight years,
(03:13):
so you try not to lose contact of what's going on.
But some impressive stuff going on. It was nice to
see him get that big hit and a couple hits
and get up over two hundred now so and to
see how too they get rolling again. But it's good
to be back. Then it'll be a be a good
week and they're getting the right team come in to
town if you want to continue to hot streak, So
that'd be nice.
Speaker 7 (03:33):
Yes, for sure.
Speaker 9 (03:34):
And I mean, you know, the story that can't be
buried is what you were able to do over the weekend.
I mean, you know it was me and Gordy, it
was me and Cole, whoever else going into this series,
Sean and we were talking about at the very least
a split is what you can get out of here
with you can't get swept, which at the time they
had one on Thursday, so they're good with that. And
(03:57):
you didn't want to lose three out of four. And
the able in close games to be able to take
care of business.
Speaker 5 (04:04):
Yeah important.
Speaker 10 (04:05):
And you know that that movie is that that movie
is won that you'll see time and time again this
year opportunities to either win those close ones or not.
But Seattle is you know, we know how good they
are and how good their pitching staff is. But you know,
you got the six innings I think it was on
Saturday out of fromber and then come back and I
had a whole host of them and bullpen did their
(04:27):
job then and take care of it. So when you
when you can win a series against a really really
good team and a team who expects to be there
when the playoffs are over and and get the you know,
the right bodies moving again and the top of the
order I think on Saturday, Dan, because I was watching,
I got to see that game, and I believe the
(04:49):
top of the order had five or.
Speaker 5 (04:51):
Six or seven hits. You know, the first four or
five guys in the order.
Speaker 10 (04:54):
We've talked about that you have to get production from
those guys up top, and you getting it, you start
to see camp Smith's average a little lower moving around.
Jake Myers has been fantastic. He's still over three hundred.
I think he's hitting three zero five or something. So
some of the least, like well rookie who's picked his
game up. You're waiting for Christian Walker to get going,
(05:16):
and he did al Tuve you know, he's got some
hits rolling after a bit of a struggle.
Speaker 5 (05:22):
But Pain has been fantastic.
Speaker 10 (05:24):
All your paratus has been outstanding, and now you just
got to get yord On back and that top of
that order is going to have to produce. And on
Saturday they did, and then Walker's walk off, you know,
on Sunday, which leads to, you know, a two game
series against the A's so productive, needless to say, an
important health and getting yourd on which is part of
(05:45):
the health health of the pitching staff as well.
Speaker 5 (05:47):
But getting ord On back out there every day.
Speaker 10 (05:50):
It's concerning because it's been this long, so it makes
you wonder if it's more than now you start to
wonder is it is it structural?
Speaker 5 (05:58):
And hopefully it's not.
Speaker 10 (05:59):
And I know they say it's so let's hope last
time we had this conversation with seventy plus games, so
with a different hitter. So let's hope that that in
a different part of the body. And I know I
saw him running the bases and doing those things. But
get him back healthy, so it doesn't linger is going
to be epic one way or the other, or if
it does or doesn't happen any time soon, it's much needed,
(06:21):
there's no doubt.
Speaker 9 (06:21):
Well, I mean it's also two sean to your point.
It's the Cagy responses. It's like yesterday Joe Espada saw
that he met with the media and he said, oh,
I don't want to put a specific timetable on it,
or something to that effect.
Speaker 11 (06:35):
And it's like, if you really feel like he's quote.
Speaker 9 (06:38):
Unquote that close, well, then I mean, say, hey, he
could be back on Tuesday. We're feeling good about those chances.
I mean, I think that kind of feeds into what
you were just talking about right there.
Speaker 10 (06:49):
Yeah, a specific timetable. I understand when it happened. I'm
not telling them how to run their operation. They're pretty
damn good at it. But from a vantage front, guess
it's the sting and the uh oh, here we go
again that concerns fans, and I get it. I get
why they're concerned when somebody says, I mean, you're hearing it.
(07:10):
It's a similar story, but not the story you want
to hear or the answer you want to hear. And
that's okay. A lot of times in sports we don't
hear what we want to hear. But when this happened,
it was it was almost I don't want to say nonchalant,
for it was almost, oh, this is just almost even
as precautionary as it was, you know that he was bothered.
Speaker 5 (07:29):
Just a little soreness.
Speaker 10 (07:30):
And then I asked the question about threshold of pain.
Was it structural or is it you know, is it
soft tissue? And it was not structural. And here we
are all this time. So it tells me this, Either
Yourn's threshold of pain has gone down, which I don't
think any of us hope that hasn't been the case.
Speaker 5 (07:48):
Two is that was.
Speaker 10 (07:49):
Deeper than a strain, or three is it's not soft tissue?
What else can it be?
Speaker 3 (07:56):
Right?
Speaker 10 (07:57):
So, if you are this close, I do get your points.
Like I understand at the beginning he said, we can't
put a timetable on it, but if he's that close,
I mean, even the hint of, well, we'll have him
back within the next week. But I when I left
on vacation, they'd hope to have him back within the
next week. They'd hope to have him back within the
next series. And so I do get fans. I don't
(08:19):
want to say disdained, but I do get there the
tread lightly and concerned. Now he comes in there and
things go well. Dashers are pretty damn good at knowing
the timing of when to get somebody back. But it's
not so much that he's heard. It's like that the
tease of well, is he really close to being back
or is this going to be another ten days? But
(08:39):
what happens is when you don't put a timetable on it,
and I get it, it prevents you from being held
accountable for that. I'm not saying I want to be
held accountable, but then there's an out for all of us.
I was like, well, you know, it's like when a
doctor says, well, he's had surgery, he'll be out two
to seven months, Well thanks, could it be two months
or so? That's a lot of time in between. So
but I do get it, and they are extremely protective
(09:01):
of their players, and rightfully so. But the thing with
this big fella is you're like, Okay, is it structure
or is it soft tissue? And I only go by
what they tell us on the believability part, and they've
always been pretty honest. But I do get why they
protect the player first. But the fan, if you're not
frustrated or concerned, that that'd be even more shocking than
if you were, because after all this time, strain seems.
Speaker 5 (09:26):
A little, a little a little underrated.
Speaker 10 (09:32):
I mean, it seems that it's deeper than a strain
and that maybe or the threshold of pain's not there.
But if that's a strain, that's a long strain, guy,
and it's in a fragile area because he's got to
use that.
Speaker 5 (09:46):
You know, I understand.
Speaker 10 (09:47):
If you're a quarterback and your left thumb, the only
time it hurts is when the balls snap to it,
and you got to get you know, say, if you're
under center, otherwise you got it taped up and you go.
It's not your throwing thumb and you're like, okay, get
through it. But for a hitter, I mean, he's got
a grip that thing every time, and so I get it.
It's not like one of those injuries, like, yeah, this
part's bothering nobody. He strides off this foot so he
(10:08):
can get by, you know, with the pain threshold. But
this isn't everyday thing, and you don't want it to linger.
Speaker 5 (10:13):
I get that.
Speaker 10 (10:14):
And they're playing they're playing some good baseball at times
they are. They've they've got some guys that have needed
to heat up that from my vantage, but I haven't
been there obviously to watch every single at bat, been
removed from it, but I have paid attention, so it
just seems optically a little bit better for me for
some guys. And then Pain has had a fantastic start
(10:34):
to his season. Those things has been well documented. But
the concern it's I mean, we're talking now, aren't we
talking twenty days already?
Speaker 5 (10:44):
It's been twenty days, hasn't it.
Speaker 9 (10:45):
Yeah, Friday was three weeks because the last time he
was in the lineup was May the second against the
White Sox.
Speaker 10 (10:52):
We're pushing a month on a strain or on a
soft tissue. So two things on the astro side. If
it's soft tissue and it's just been that bad, one
bad move on soft tissue in your two more months,
I've seen it happen with soft tissue on different parts
of the body for different players in my playing career.
But the other side of it is, if it's not
(11:13):
soft tissue, I'll tell you what's going to see how
people blow a gasket if it's something further than this,
if it's not soft tissue and just discomfort or whatever
it is they're feeling. So I hope it is, and
I do. I always applaud the astros for protecting the player,
but the fan suffers from it because you don't get
a seat at the table and knowing what's wrong. So
(11:34):
if he's close, you'd love to have a timestamp on it.
The question is how close is he and if they
really don't know, that's a pretty hefty strain.
Speaker 5 (11:42):
My man. They were pushing thirty days.
Speaker 7 (11:45):
No doubt about it.
Speaker 9 (11:46):
Luckily though, for the astros, I mentioned the seventeen games
in seventeen days. You go ten and seven during that stretch,
including the frustrating two out of three that you lost
to the Tampa Bay Rays there on the road, so
hopefully you're able to exactly some revenge and the Astros
actually get into a stretch of the schedule here too
where there are off days sprinkled in here and there,
(12:07):
so you're not going to be having a stretch like
this anytime soon. So that's the good news. NBA Playoffs
the Thunder last night with a three with their third
win of the series. They're now up three to one
on the Timberwolves in the Western Conference and the Pacers
and Knicks Indiana with a two to one lead after
New York able to win over the weekend. But let's
(12:28):
continue the Astros conversation this weekend a turning point, might
you say?
Speaker 11 (12:33):
We will discuss that.
Speaker 5 (12:34):
Here.
Speaker 9 (12:34):
It is the Sean Salisbury Show, Sports Talks seven to ninety.
Speaker 7 (12:39):
Buckle up, The Seawan Salisbury Show continues.
Speaker 1 (12:43):
It's going to be a hell.
Speaker 10 (12:47):
I knew he was a Houston guy or the Texas guy,
or is the Houston guy this area?
Speaker 9 (12:53):
I think he was born in the area San Antonio,
but he grew up and lived most of his life here.
There is the photo out there of him performing in
a earl Campbell Jersey.
Speaker 5 (13:02):
There you go.
Speaker 10 (13:02):
So I did not know he was on acid. He
dropped acid before he wrote the cut. But you know what,
if that's the case, then then that day and everybody
got out. Okay, we'll take it because it's a good
song for sure, so we'll take it.
Speaker 5 (13:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (13:17):
The what's it?
Speaker 9 (13:20):
The yacht rock documentary that's on HBO Max, I believe
is where he told that story, and I got through
about half of it before I had fallen asleep. I've
never gotten back to it, but I've been meaning the
track down Matt Thomas for the cliff Notes version of
how that documentary went. But anyway, the Astros with a
nice series over the weekend, and Sean I threw out
a word, you know, while we were in the first segment,
(13:42):
turning point. We use that word quite a bit, or
those words quite a bit when it comes to when
you're looking for a team to be able to rattle
things off. I mean, we've heard Dana Brown tell us
numerous times, hey guys, these bats get going, and the
way that this team pitches, you could see this team
reeling off some serious wins. But again, where I said
that the benchmark was at least a split in that series,
(14:05):
and you're able to gain two games on the Mariners.
And oh, by the way, too, it's not like the
Rangers are playing very good baseball. As a matter of fact,
they've lost seven of their last eight. So you're able
to gain some ground in terms of pulling away from
them too.
Speaker 10 (14:19):
Yeah, and the Angels are going to do what they do,
start fast and kind of disappear. So three division, it'll
be a three team division. It just will when it
all is said and done, I believe, and depending on
health and pitching, and all three have great top line pitching.
Speaker 1 (14:36):
They do.
Speaker 10 (14:37):
They're there at the top. They have some outstanding arms
at the top. But you know the depth of the
Astros and you get Blanco back in the lineup, and
obviously with Fromber and Hunter Brown, the Wezneesky news, you know,
happened when I was going sucked. But that's you know,
over the course of you that's why we talk about
starting pitching, having eight or nine guys you're gonna need them.
(14:59):
But the pitching, but when you look at the batting order,
when when the Rangers are going well, they're comparable to anybody.
Speaker 5 (15:06):
They can swing it.
Speaker 10 (15:06):
We know that the Mariner is probably a little undervalued
when it comes to bats when they're going well but
still pretty solid. And we know that they've got some players,
but the overall lineup when it's right. But we can't think.
You can't keep saying when it's right. But when you
look at the bats and from Altuve and the way
Pain is playing and the bottom of the order doing
some really good things, you just got to get the
(15:27):
big fellow healthy and the top of the order swinging
the lumber. But it's good that it's going to end
up like we I mean, not just we've most predicted it.
Three teams within a handful of games of each other.
It's the way it's going to be. And I know
we're only you know, we're only just sliding into June
here in the next few days.
Speaker 5 (15:46):
But in truth, you're not going to run away and
hide this division.
Speaker 10 (15:49):
That's why health and pitching are going to be important,
and keeping your big bats healthy and getting this big
bat in because of those teams, none of them, you know,
none of them have lost the impact on their team
that the bat that Jordan provides for this team.
Speaker 5 (16:05):
So throughout the course of a year, people get banged up,
and hurt.
Speaker 10 (16:08):
But when you're best hitter is sidelined and I've had
some pitching injuries, you got to find a way to
scram around.
Speaker 5 (16:16):
But this team's been famous for that.
Speaker 10 (16:18):
They know how to do that, So you just don't
want to keep doing it because it's a lot to overcome.
But I actually like where they are considering the circumstances.
You want it perfect every night, you're not going to
get it. But from my vantage point, I feel like
this team's getting better and they are on the verge.
Speaker 5 (16:35):
But what is the virgin When is it going to happen?
Speaker 1 (16:38):
Yeah?
Speaker 9 (16:38):
And I mean maybe you can file this under that's
their problem for the Mariners. But imagine being a Mariners
fan this weekend, and especially how the division played out
last year, and you score one run on Saturday, you
just like the Astros, have your chances on Sunday and
are unable to pull ahead and be able to win
this game. And aside, really in this series, sean from
(17:02):
Friday night where they score those runs in the seventh inning,
there was never really a time that the Mariners were
an offensive threat against this team. So if you're a
fan of that team, you've got to be looking at
the GM and being like, dude, what the hell did
you need to be told last offseason to not think
that you need to make some significant offensive moves.
Speaker 10 (17:21):
Well, going into the year, when we talked about World
Series teams and we're making our predictions and saying, okay,
this team, the Yankees and the Red Sox and going
through each division and get to this one, we said,
really really good, great set of arms, and which will
carry them. But they don't. They don't make your head spinner.
(17:43):
Don't get you too jacked up like you're on a
five hour energy with the Bats. Now, they've got good players.
Cal Raley's a good player. We know that Julio's good.
They've got good players, but we're all overall. You think,
now that's a lineup that matches its pitching staff. It doesn't,
And I think in the end it may end up
being a problem, and then you're putting a lot of
(18:03):
strain on pitching to be outstanding.
Speaker 5 (18:06):
Now, they probably look at their.
Speaker 10 (18:08):
Lineup and say from their vantage point that they feel
good about it. Now, they may not feel good about
the production. But going into the season I'm talking about,
but it's going to end.
Speaker 5 (18:17):
Up playing out. They are not.
Speaker 10 (18:19):
And I don't even know what the metrics or analytics
say overall as a team average and the rest of it.
But it's not arms that are going to be the
problem there. I mean health obviously for every team throughout
the course of the season. But if everybody's swinging the
bat the way they want the division, the Mariners are
lineup wise, in my opinion, step behind a couple other
(18:42):
bat teams in the division. The just are so you
rely on pitching, but yeah, they didn't. It's not like
that monster, Oh my gosh, two or three moves. And
I know that every team has that complaint.
Speaker 5 (18:53):
They want more. We all want more. We all want
greedy offense.
Speaker 10 (18:55):
I do, But I think in the end, the inability
to score a lot of runs it's gonna put a
lot of strain on their pitching staff.
Speaker 5 (19:02):
We've seen it here.
Speaker 10 (19:04):
But this lineup and when they're healthy and going good,
I'll take the Rangers lineup as well. The key is
the health of a pitching staff and will they be
good enough, meaning the Mariners, will they have enough in
their bats to help out when the pitching staff goes
through their stense of of not you know, keeping people
to two and three runs, good pitching staff. I think
(19:25):
it's a I don't subpar is not fair. I just
I just think they're pedestrian offensively.
Speaker 5 (19:31):
That's just me.
Speaker 9 (19:32):
Well, I think that's being very kind because they're twenty
first in all of baseball for team batting average two
thirty seven. The Astros now top ten at two fifty four.
Speaker 10 (19:41):
So they do the metrics for the most part match
the eye test. So with the Mariners, and after all that,
think what happens when you get hot.
Speaker 5 (19:51):
The Astros haven't.
Speaker 10 (19:52):
Even in truth, Christian Walker is still nowhere near what
you're gonna expect from him.
Speaker 5 (19:59):
Two.
Speaker 10 (20:00):
Going to pick this back up, but think about the
bats that have kind of raised the team average. Jake Myers,
cam Smith, Paradis has done a nice job.
Speaker 5 (20:12):
Paynya. I mean you start to think about where it's
been raised from. It hasn't.
Speaker 10 (20:19):
It's not like it's been raised from Tucker, Bregman and
Jordan So, I mean, the things they're doing offensively, a
lot of it's had to do with guys you didn't
expect a rookie expec okay superstar potential, but got a
lot of growing paints boom. Christian Walker finally crept over
and you know two hundred, I mean, and then got
the walkoff form run.
Speaker 5 (20:40):
So you start to look around.
Speaker 10 (20:42):
They're not even close and the average is still what
you said, put him in the top ten. Think about that,
and they're not even really rolling offensively. They've gotten some
things going in some of the players, but when you
talk about one through five or six and they're going,
and you know, we've seen the flashes this year of
Yainer obviously as well. When this team's rolling, it's different.
(21:03):
But even when it's not, look what some of the
other guys. If I told you Myers is going to
be hitting, you know, around three hundred, that Payne's average
was going to be hovering in that range as well,
and al two base would be in the fifties. Jordan
hadn't even got started his power backs nowhere near, Christian
Walker be hitting about two o two. And I told
you that was going to be the case, You'd be
in and Bregman and Tucker on on the roster. You'd
be looking at me like I was nuts, and then
(21:24):
go with Jiners start I mean, so you start to
think about some of the other guys, which always happens
sometimes the other guys are a big reason why your
team stays afloat.
Speaker 5 (21:37):
So Dana's right about that.
Speaker 10 (21:38):
At some point in time, they're all gonna be in
a lineup. It's gonna be a fun watch. But in
the meantime, how do you do it well? Jake Myers
needs to hit three hundred, Cam Smith needs to continue
to rise. Payinian needs to continue to lead and be
an MVP type player, and then you're going to need
more of that with a long ball from Christian Walker
and it couldn't have came at a better time for him.
Speaker 9 (21:56):
Yeah, it's actually a good thing. Do you pick up
on the other side too? About Christian Walker? Is While
nice to see, it is also something that I think
we've kind of been fooled by in the past. So
we'll discuss that here as we are getting going here
on the Sean Salisbury Show, you want to weigh in
seven one three two one two five seven ninety against
someone three two one two five seven ninety. It is
(22:18):
The Shawn Salisbury Show, Sports Talk seven ninety were The
Shawn Salisbury Show continued, Paul wants to wag in this morning, Paul,
good morning.
Speaker 12 (22:30):
Morning, to see you gentlemen, how arey' aall doing today?
Speaker 11 (22:32):
Very well?
Speaker 12 (22:33):
Thanks man, awesome, awesome, Yeah, I want to talk about
the shows.
Speaker 1 (22:37):
Hey, you know, I'm some of an optimistic type person.
Speaker 12 (22:40):
So I was thinking though, if Christian Walker becomes Christian
Walker and Jordone gets back from his injury after a
couple of months whatever, you know, we know the organization,
but uh one think it was back and they're fully
doing what they're supposed to do. But he thought Fraide
is doing what he's doing right now. I mean, good God,
and I mean, look what Opinion is doing. We're gonna
have quite a scary lineup, I really think so. I mean,
(23:01):
looking at East Up Paradis my god, the kids twenty
four years old, right, And I said this at the
beginning of the year, the guys and we're out at
the Crawford Boxes. Then you know, he's what eleven home runs,
upper two eighty or whatever batting average. I think by July,
the guy's gonna be me an all star, an all star.
I mean, I mean he's I mean, he's doing what
what Bregman was doing before before Breman got hurt. I mean,
and he's doing at much younger pace. So I mean,
(23:23):
I I've I think we're gonna be I think we'll
be okay, and I think we'll be like one of
the top, you know, if we do what we're supposed
to do and our hitting comes back and you know,
after Ragetty comes back and everything else, so soon wants
to get our guys going worth at this point and
we're still at this level. Once our guys come back
all fully healthy, I think I think we'll be pretty good.
Speaker 1 (23:40):
I'm not not really worried.
Speaker 9 (23:43):
I appreciate the call, Paul. I mean, he mentioned Christian
Walker there, and while it was really nice to see
what we saw at him on Sunday, Sean, it's also
kind of to the point where it's like, all right,
we're almost to June here, and you mentioned it now
back above two high hundred, which that should not even
be anywhere close to being the benchmark for him. I mean,
(24:05):
he's a guy it's around the two fifty hitter throughout
his career. That's usually the high side of things. He's
mostly in the two thirties two forties.
Speaker 11 (24:12):
That's mine. But it's again the exceptions and the rules.
Speaker 9 (24:17):
The exception is that Jake Myers has been hitting above
the way that he's hitting, and now he's kind of
starting the market correct a little bit. The point is,
I shouldn't be comparing Christian Walker to Jake Myers when
it comes to the offensive side of things.
Speaker 10 (24:33):
Well, I mean you shouldn't be comparing going into the season.
You wouldn't compare Jake Myers back to anybody's that you
wanted productive the way you wanted it. But in truth,
he's hitting about sixty seventy points higher than you expected.
Speaker 5 (24:47):
Correct at this stage, correct Jake Myers? That is Yeah,
The truth.
Speaker 10 (24:52):
Of the matter is, even though Myers is higher than
what Christian Walker's normal yearly averages, you would have expected
what's going on with Christian Walker to be Jake Myers.
That that's how you expect his bat two hundred to
two twenty five, get a home run every Now, that
that's what you'd expect it. Now, maybe this is an
(25:12):
outlier year for Listen, if you get if Jake Myers
is two seventy five, that is a you should be
standing on your head. But we keep saying if and
you know, a month plus into the season or two
months into the season, the guy's rolling along pretty well
as we head towards June, considering for him, that's not
the benchmark exactly right now. Two nineties not the benchmark
(25:34):
for Christian Walker. But I'll tell you what it is.
Two fifty five twenty five home runs eighty five to
ninety rbi. Isn't that fair going in?
Speaker 3 (25:42):
No?
Speaker 9 (25:42):
I mean he's definitely being paid to do that. Yeah,
for sure, that's right.
Speaker 10 (25:46):
So I mean, I know, when you get a walk off,
you're happy for the moment, but you say, okay, what's
the big picture?
Speaker 5 (25:52):
Look like I gotta.
Speaker 10 (25:54):
Believe he's going to be better than this now when
people say, well, it looks like a bray you. His
bat speed's a lot better than you, and he's not
as I don't know if broken down's the way to
say it, but he's still a better hitter at this
stage than a braid You was. His last stage is
now the batting average of numbers, don't say it, and
a braid You was a slow starter as well, and
(26:15):
especially here and heat it up in his months he's
is if you look back his last did he always
from every month until he hits September, A.
Speaker 5 (26:24):
Brad You always got better? Now?
Speaker 10 (26:27):
Will Christian Walker I'm not I don't need three hundred
out of him, but two sixty with twenty five home runs,
you're looking for more. In my opinion, you're not looking
for singles. I mean, you'll take him when you can
get him. You're looking for a thump, and our caller's right.
If if we can say this about a lot of teams,
(26:47):
but when you go Paanya al Tuve, Jordan Walker and
or Dias Walker and or Dias when you roll up,
Paradus has got to be. And when your first six
is those guys, and then you add Myers and Smith
and whoever else in the lineup is I mean, you know,
whatever else they're going with in their lineup in the outfield.
(27:11):
Your first seven are pretty formidable, man, And your first six,
I mean are more than formal.
Speaker 5 (27:16):
They are win right.
Speaker 10 (27:18):
But the if factor, if Jordan gets healthy, if Christian
Walker performed like you performed in Arizona, if Jake Myers
can continue this, if Payne is truly an MVP type guy,
I mean, at least on this team, he's playing like one.
Speaker 5 (27:33):
I mean he won't have the gaudy home run numbers,
but his energy has changed it.
Speaker 10 (27:38):
I mean, paradis has been a great I don't even
call it a surprise because we expected to be a
good player, but it's started faster than normally Bregman would here,
notwithstanding San Sunway Park. So yeah, the if of the man,
if they get going, there's no doubt. But you're still
a ways away from that. Because Walker, you don't want
it to be fool's gold. You want him to do
(27:59):
it was brought here to do. And I think and
I think we're gun shy to Dan because the position.
It's been a struggle at first base since Hughley walked
out of here when he was doing his thing. I
mean they've they've looked around trying to find somebody, so
that that's bothersome. And then when you lose the right
fielder and you got a rookie replacing him, and a
young player who platoons at times out there and Dezenzo
(28:20):
and not in that position, but when you move people
around young players Descenzo and Smith in the outfield or
Dezenzo in the case of playing third base or wherever
you're putting him. I mean you're mixing around and moving
around a new third baseman. You're trying to get Christian
Walker going Jordan's hurt. I mean the fact that, in truth,
considering thank goodness for great pitching and for some other
(28:40):
guys getting it done. This this team is, and without
the constant battering of Jordan pounding pitchers and making them
work and afraid to throw him strikes because he hasn't
been in the lineup, I'd say it's actually been a
pretty damn productive start for them, considering far better than
last year. Obvious, but when you're not slugging the ball
(29:03):
with your big boppers, we always think something's wrong. And
in truth, without Walker Diaz at the top of the
list of catchers and home runs, or without Jordan Alvarez
doing his thing, it is going to hit us different.
And it does hit different, and it's been pretty obvious,
but that big if and if it does happen, it'll
be fun to watch because pitching is going to be
(29:24):
strong enough when they're healthy, to sustain you and keep
you in this the whole time. What's going to get
you over the top. And the last thing you had
on your ango card not getting you over the top
is the guy who dhs so got to get him right,
and the question is when, And then Christian and then
Christian Walker's just got to do.
Speaker 5 (29:42):
Hell, I don't even need thirty out of him.
Speaker 10 (29:44):
Just give me a little more of what we saw
with a walk off situation where the balls flying out
of the ballpark.
Speaker 9 (29:51):
Well, I mean, and you know it's one of those
things too. Can you even ask for it to be
five six games in a row of you putting together
strong hitting performances. I mean, again, Sean, we're almost to
June and where his averages, I don't think that's much
to ask for. I think that you need to have
that out of him. You need to see that he
can be that guy and the team as a whole.
(30:13):
I mean, I will trade the struggles for right now
for if you told me, hey, Dan, Sean, August and September,
that's when this team starts to hit their stride at
the plate, that's when you want to see it, because
then that's leading into the other part of the season.
Speaker 10 (30:28):
Well yeah, in a perfect world, you'd like him to
be building to a crescendo then there's no doubt and
then carrying get into the postseason.
Speaker 5 (30:36):
But here's the issue. One.
Speaker 10 (30:38):
It also puts again the strain that it will put
on your your pitching staff and bullpen. If you're playing
in those type of games and not getting stellar performances
from the starting pitching. If you weren't, that's still between
Fromber and Hunter Brown and win Spencer Araghatty's back, you
don't have whiz Nesk giving you're adding, you know, Renelle Blanco,
(31:01):
I mean, you know.
Speaker 5 (31:02):
When he's right.
Speaker 10 (31:04):
But there's as you can see, there's already been some
bang some guys who've missing some time.
Speaker 5 (31:08):
What is that three starting pitchers that've been hurt.
Speaker 10 (31:12):
Yeahs out for the year. Well, Arraghetty, Blanco, was Nesky.
That's three. That's three of the five. And you're still
working your way through Lance mc colors. So, in truth,
who's been healthy this year? Your first two right, and
the Hunter Brown and from we're what four and four.
The record's probably not indicative of how well he can pitch,
(31:35):
but you're exactly right the bats. You'd love him to
be rolling to that where everything's building towards an August
September into October type post postseason for the big hitters.
But the problem is you've had three guys that have
already been banged up and hurt pitching. You've relied on
some other guys. You're also relying on other guys that
(31:57):
aren't your stars in your lineup to do some and
that's okay, they get paid to do it. But we
keep saying it. This is not a division you could
afford to just to wait till August, is my point.
I mean, I know we're only two months from it
that and I know that the other the other two
teams that were supposed to be near the top of
the division are exactly tearing it up, meaning Texas and
(32:20):
the hitting of the Seattle Mariners. So you're fortunate that way,
but damn imagine if you were hitting, you could distance
your own self. But you're putting a lot of strain
in the injuries and it won't be the last game
time a starting pitcher miss is a start, so it
is incumbent upon it. I know the pressure starts the amount,
but to get jord On out when when he's right,
(32:40):
and to get Christian Walker going, and to get yin
or consistently rolling with the bat, and then you know,
to have pain to continue to do he's doing and
we're hoping there's a part there when al too Vega
would started dipping down around two forty or something.
Speaker 5 (32:52):
You're like, man, what is going on?
Speaker 10 (32:54):
And then boom a couple of home runs and when
he gets goes, he goes in bunches. So you are
one hundred percent correct about having an I'm ready at
that time. But the question is can you survive injuries
on a pitching staff and not have a lot of
slugging from your stars until August or as the division
just set up, You're going to get the same thing
(33:16):
out of the other two teams, you know, the Rangers
and Mariners, because neither one of them are overly equipped
to make a you know, depending, I mean loaded with
talent on pitching staffs, obviously, but are either one of
them capable of going on their run. I guess they are.
But that's a fortunate part of the division. You can
be average and hang around as long as you're pitching
(33:36):
is healthy and good, meaning the hitting if it's just average.
But I don't think you want this frustration of a
guy being hurt and us setting here in August saying, hey,
Christian Walker's two twenty. I think we want more than that,
and you know has three more home runs is all
in the month of June. You do want him to
have one of those big weekends, you know, big months
(33:56):
where it's like oh wow, and Jordan and that through
six where it's like, Okay, the other guy's good, dandy
and fine and dandy keep doing it, but your big
boppers have to perform or you'll be in trouble. They're
fortunate they're in a division right now that with good pitching,
and if they can stay solid, they'll hang around the
whole time.
Speaker 5 (34:14):
Nobody's running away. The Yankees aren't in the Dodgers aren't
in this division.
Speaker 9 (34:18):
Well, and it's also too I mean, it's across the
board in the American League. I mean it's not like
other than really Detroit, that there's anybody that you can
look at right now and say head and shoulders above
this team.
Speaker 5 (34:29):
I mean, why are they pretty good?
Speaker 1 (34:31):
Man?
Speaker 9 (34:32):
They're swinging it and pitching it pretty good right now.
A couple of wins over the weekend for Detroit best
record in the American League at the moment, But the
Astros at twenty eight wins Detroit seven wins better than them.
The Yankees are second best at thirty three wins. I'm
not really concerned about the Yankees whatsoever. I mean I
think that they've shown that they can be pretty vulnerable
to be beaten.
Speaker 10 (34:53):
I'll take the Astros starting pitching win right to hover,
But I mean it's they have that ability to go
and have a guy that will carry, you know, Judge
will carry and load you up and go for a
handful of weeks. And that's why you're begging for your
guy Yordon. Back to me, what's the biggest concern of
(35:14):
the team. It's always health in the starting pitching, but
next is not only when Jordon's coming back.
Speaker 5 (35:21):
How long is he stay back?
Speaker 10 (35:23):
If he's back, how long is it if it's one
of those things, because if they don't have a timeframe
and it's a nagging injury just coming back to one thing,
will he be Jordon when he comes back. If it's
one of those that you're just not sure on a
soft tissue injury, this is a long strain and a
lot longer. I told you Dan, I said, if it
(35:45):
starts to creep past ten days, then how will you feel?
And you know you kind of looked at me like
the big eyed Well, we both did. It's been double
that time, double the time you expected. So I get
the concern By fans.
Speaker 7 (35:58):
Yeah, no doubt about it.
Speaker 9 (36:00):
And you know, again hoping believing, you hope that he
can be that guy, and you believe that he can
be that guy. It's just you would like to get
that opportunity to see him back out on the field.
But we'll continue this conversation. Alex, see you right there.
I know that you want to get in. Sean, you
mentioned something about the pitching. That's something that I do
want to get into, as well as the Astros the
(36:20):
attrition to the starting pitching starting to be seen a
little bit. We'll continue here does the Shawn Salisbury Show
Sports Talk seven ninety Why you're back?
Speaker 7 (36:30):
This is the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 13 (36:32):
Get back at it.
Speaker 11 (36:34):
Alex wants to weigh in. Alex, good morning, morning fellas.
Speaker 1 (36:39):
It's been awesome.
Speaker 14 (36:39):
I've called it and you'll naturally hear me, so knock
on wood that keeps happening.
Speaker 11 (36:43):
You're good so far, man.
Speaker 14 (36:46):
No, I just want to jump in real quick. And
I know y'all were talking about the pitching and everything.
Me personally, I'm not a mccullors fan, and I'm curious
as to why with him being gone as long as
he has been, why.
Speaker 1 (37:04):
You wouldn't give him the.
Speaker 14 (37:06):
Minor league rehab start, And if you didn't want to
go that route, why you don't put him in the
bullpen and let him pitch in those middle innings and
relief and get up to where he needs to be
going that way rather than just throwing him into it
and having some of the I don't want to say
botched outings, but some of those rougher outings that he's had.
Speaker 5 (37:29):
So that's question number one.
Speaker 14 (37:30):
And then y'all were also talking about how right field
being platooned, but they're also platooning left field between you know,
Dezenzo as well and Al two Bay, and then they're
platooning second base between Rogers Dubon and Al two Bay.
You know, those those three positions. It's hard whenever you
(37:52):
don't have a lockdown position player at those places, when
your corners, you're short stop, are your three locked down
everyday players. It I feel like it kind of causes
a not a riff, but kind of like a wave
that they have to overcome in doing so, because every
(38:14):
player is going to play differently. And then this is
the last thing, and I'll get out of y'all's hair.
This is the type of seasons that true Astros fans
are are, you know, used to we got kind of
spoiled and and we're on a high from sixteen all
the way to you know, twenty two to twenty three
area and now we're seeing what it's like being a
(38:36):
Houston fan for just about any sport. You got to
grind through it with them and and they'll be okay,
appreciate it, fellows.
Speaker 5 (38:43):
Have a good day. IX.
Speaker 11 (38:45):
Appreciate buddy, Alex.
Speaker 10 (38:46):
It's a phenomenal point about the grind and who you are.
Speaker 5 (38:52):
And this is what normal baseball is.
Speaker 10 (38:54):
It Rarely, it doesn't happen where you get to run
away and hide all the time and win a division
by double digits and people chasing. You're resting in August,
in September, correct.
Speaker 5 (39:05):
And I would agree with you.
Speaker 10 (39:06):
One thing I've come to notice and maybe it's and
then talking to Joe as spot a pre before they
went to spring training, they did not want to have
one hundred and forty plus different lineups, but.
Speaker 5 (39:17):
They're going to if it keeps it.
Speaker 10 (39:19):
They just are I can tell you right now, no
matter what we they are very adamant.
Speaker 5 (39:24):
It feels to me. And then maybe you think different
that it doesn't make.
Speaker 10 (39:30):
You could be on three to four the lineup three
days in a row, and if if it's Rake and somehow,
some way, they're going to get somebody in there that
hasn't played for four or five days and he's going
to play. They are about getting people's swings. I think
a little different. I know you got to get people ready,
but if people are healthy, I really don't have to
get people ready. It's not my responsibility, no offense, to
(39:51):
keep the twenty fourth guy on my roster ready. It's
his responsibility. It's not my responsibility to play eight guys
at second base.
Speaker 5 (39:58):
It just isn't.
Speaker 10 (40:00):
I know how they do their bit, and I and
I they're smarter than I am. But I like teams
that you roll in if you're injury free, and I
know who my first basement is, who my third basement is,
who my shortstop is, and where.
Speaker 5 (40:12):
They're hitting in the lineup, who my catch is. For
the most part.
Speaker 10 (40:15):
Of course, there's going to be days off, and of
course you're going to be injuries and all that, but
this team just does not roll out the same lineup.
And I don't even know what the op with what
the numbers say this year Dan. From my standpoint, it
feels like it's different. Often now, I like the factante
at the top of the order and you know, trying
(40:35):
to move that around.
Speaker 5 (40:36):
Without jord On and get it right.
Speaker 10 (40:38):
I get it, but it feels and I don't know
where their pace is ahead of last year or behind
last year, but they like, I mean, you could go
to or three days in a row where you're raking
and then you will get a day off with they'll
they'll or you'll move to the d H and they'll
put somebody else at second and move the second basement
in the left fielder.
Speaker 5 (40:55):
They are adamant about making sure that.
Speaker 10 (40:58):
Chas McCormick gets a few X bats instead of just hey,
and you've got to stay ready. Football it's a little different.
It just is, unless you're one of those positions as
three or four people. If you're the right guard, the
backup right guard doesn't get any work except practice.
Speaker 5 (41:12):
He just doesn't. He doesn't work right. He works with
the backups.
Speaker 10 (41:15):
But those five linemen, it's not like, hey, man, man,
we've gone three days games in a row with it.
Let's get that right. Tack about ten snaps often that
doesn't work. You play them all backup quarterback. It's not
their responsibility to get me snaps or to get to
get the you know, Davis Mills snaps. It's just not
is Davis mills responsibility do extra work so when his
(41:36):
time does come.
Speaker 5 (41:37):
He's ready.
Speaker 10 (41:38):
It just isn't baseball. I know, we get the old
it's one hundred and sixty two games. It's a long
grind of a season, of course it is. But you
get paid to play one hundred and fifty of them.
I'm sorry, you just do. And of all the things
that I don't disagree much, I love the way, you
know Jim Crane's ability. I know that we'd like them
to pay more to stars, but I like the fact
(41:58):
that they've put a line and etched it in stone
and very rarely cross it when it comes to how
they do business. I know we're I'm greedy too. I
want to pay them all and keep them all.
Speaker 5 (42:08):
I like that. I think Dana Brown's got a hell
of a job with personnel.
Speaker 10 (42:12):
Joe Spotts stepped in and done a nice job and
only second year as a manager. There's some things that
everybody does different than oh Man that could improve that
that happens, and every team goes through it.
Speaker 13 (42:22):
But for me, I don't.
Speaker 10 (42:24):
Honestly, that's not my job to platoon the second base.
And now I understand when you got to get Dubonds
some work, but he gets work at five places. I
think different. It doesn't mean I could be. You can
think and eighty degrees different than me. That's fine, all
you want. I don't believe that every single day coming
to the ballpark. It's my job to make sure that
(42:46):
a person who's going to end up getting two hundred
or two hundred and fifty at bats in the year,
that I got to make sure it happens at a
certain time.
Speaker 5 (42:52):
I'll let it fill in.
Speaker 10 (42:53):
But if my lineups going well, twelve games in a
row and you don't see the field, oh well you
better hit more in the cage, you better you better
get extra batting practice. That's and well, that's not feasible.
Why I mean, yeah, I can take you through when
the Dodgers and say and Russell and Lopes and Garvey,
they line up every day, that's their They played every day.
(43:15):
So oil Sean times have changed. It doesn't mean that
has to change. I get paid to play one hundred
and sixty two of them. Unless I'm hurt or struggling
and I need a day off, I get it. But
but this team is and it's not wrong. Yeah, it's
different from what I am. But this team rolls. And
I know I'm a little late, but this team, this
team likes, likes to get a lot of people work.
Speaker 5 (43:33):
They just do.
Speaker 9 (43:34):
Yeah, I mean, look the Rockets example, he made a
dooka the State Ready crew. I mean, that's pretty much
what you have to go with with those guys.
Speaker 5 (43:42):
It's on them, right for sure. The player you got
to do lonely work, yep.
Speaker 7 (43:45):
For sure. Let's you know.
Speaker 9 (43:46):
One of the points that Alex brought up, I do
want to chop up here in the seven o'clock hour,
and that is about lancemaccullors.
Speaker 11 (43:52):
So we'll do that.
Speaker 9 (43:53):
Also, I'll let you hear a little bit from Dana
Brown here as we get going here an hour or
two of the Sean Salisbury shows. It stalks seven to ninety.
Speaker 10 (44:01):
Hey, Men's ta Clinic, Men's Tea Clinic dot com is
where you go. Wellness optimization is the word of the
year for me, or should I say the phrase wellness optimization?
And if you're not guys jumping all over it, then
you're going to get left behind. Not by us, not
by Men's Tea Clinic, but man, the sluggishes. You know
how it gets all of a sudden, you follow that
(44:21):
trap when I'm a little tired, not irritable. Before you
know it, it's a month in and it's two much.
I'll get it later. What are you waiting on? December
thirty first? Isn't your timestamp to say? This is when

motivation is temporary. Discipline's permanent, the discipline to go in

(44:43):
with the great team at Men's t Clinic, five convenient locations,
eleven years now at the top of their craft, eleven
changing lives and in some case saving lives because giving

Speaker 3 (45:40):
The Astros, Astros, the Rockets, Rockets, past fall, your home
for your home teams.
Speaker 5 (45:47):
This is Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 15 (45:49):
From the Parsons That Match Next Studios, Oh Burke House,
did Okay, Let's do this.
Speaker 3 (46:02):
Sewn Salisbury to usc troups, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 4 (46:08):
Dan matthewscuse Jesus. This is the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 9 (46:17):
Thunder taking a three to one lead on the Timberwolves
in the NBA Western Conference Finals. Texans gonna get back
on the practice field tomorrow for a round of OTAs.
But we are in the Astros conversation right now Sebon
one three two one two five seven ninety against Sebone
three two one two five seven ninety. Sometime this hour,
we're gonna hear from Astros GM Dana Brown as he
(46:40):
made his weekly visit on Astro Launch with Robert Ford.
Of course, we are expected to get Dana tomorrow here
on the show at nine thirty. But to go off
of what Alex and Tomball talked about with us, Shawn
Lance McCullers Junior, I mean, I think in an ideal world,
maybe you could be a little bit more patient with
Maybe you could be able to kind of build him
(47:03):
up of you know, maybe somewhat in the ilk of
what we've seen from Ryan Gusto, kind of the yo
yo that you've been doing with him for some time.
But you mentioned the attrition to the starting pitching, and
I know that the Apple TV broadcast showed this. Six
guys with starting experience that are either out for the
year or are out for a prolonged period of time
(47:24):
are gone, including the three most recent ones that you
have sent out where Hayden was Nesky, he's done for
the year, Tommy John surgery. Well, wait and see on
Renelle Blanco, but it's not looking promising. You don't go
for second opinions when you get a positive result in
the first one. So that's another one that I think
you can probably consider to be out. And then with
Spencer Araghetti, I mean, we've heard it from Dana, We've
(47:47):
heard it from Joe Espada. He's going to need a
spring training like build up to come back. And we're
already to the month, you know, a couple of days
removed from the month of June Sean, so that likely
is going to be near the All Star brank is
when you can expect him. I'm saying all of that
to say you don't have the time to do that.
With Plants mccullors. It's a sink or swim. You got
(48:08):
to get out there and you got to try to
give us as many innings as possible.
Speaker 10 (48:12):
Does he give you your best chance as a starter
or a bullpen guy, regardless of the injuries right.
Speaker 7 (48:16):
Now, but as starter, no doubt about it.
Speaker 9 (48:19):
I'm not worried about the bullpen and the bullpen for
all of the innings that they've had to throw, they've
been fine.
Speaker 10 (48:24):
Yeah, I'm not talking about the bullpen. I'm talking about him,
Where do you get most production out of here? I'm
not talking about who needs it the most. I'm talking about,
is there somebody who's in the bullpen that gives you
a better chance to start than he does?
Speaker 5 (48:37):
If he's not right?
Speaker 9 (48:39):
No, not in the bullpen right now, and not down
on the minor league level. No, he Your best is
to be where he is at this moment.
Speaker 5 (48:46):
How far away is he from his best?
Speaker 9 (48:50):
I mean, I think that we've seen marked improvement every
single outing. It would be nice to see you a
good thing, right, No, I mean, and that's absolutely what
you need. But the next good thing that you want
to see is getting into the fifth maybe even being
able to touch the sixth inning, because lord knows this
bullpen needs him to do it.
Speaker 10 (49:07):
Yeah, with Alan, I am one hundred percent with him.
When this was going on during his rehab, my first thought,
and I think a lot of people's, was I'm not
sure he's the starting pitcher anymore, at least for a
while until the build up and we get back and
see if maybe it can the arm handle that eighty
pitches eighty five ninety where you're back up to being
(49:29):
how he was when he when he was that guy
who was throwing twenty two to twenty three straight curveballs
and dominate lineups.
Speaker 5 (49:36):
We know he's got it.
Speaker 10 (49:37):
The velocity has been pretty good, and we were talking,
as we did with Steve Sparks a couple of weeks ago,
about you know, the ball, the spin rate. You never
want to get a guy to back off, but you know,
to the point where it's so spins so much that
at times it's out of the strike zone for non
competitive strikes, right, So you're not getting the chase rate
that you normally want. Mccullor's obviously, when you think of
(50:00):
Lance mc colors, you think starting pitcher. But I don't
know if we know yet at least a matter of
fact from with if all these.
Speaker 5 (50:07):
Injuries did not happen, where would he pitch?
Speaker 10 (50:11):
If you had Arraghetti was Nesky wasn't hurt, Blanco was
in the lineup, hell even a JP. Where where would
Lance mcclors fit in if the staff was healthy. Is
this supply and demand? Is it just we need him
or is it this is who he is and we're
going to square peg round hold it? Where would he
have started his back on the major league roster? Would
(50:35):
it have been in the starting lineup if they were healthy.
I don't know the answer to that. My guess is no,
maybe you mix him in and when you get the sick,
you know your rotation sick. So I do think there's
there's legitimate to what Alex. I think a lot of
us thought the same thing. But then you see the injuries,
you say, well, you're right, Dan, did you have no choice?
(50:56):
Because Lance mc colors and I also think in his
mind he is set up. In his mind he's a starter,
and you're right, it's going to have to extend. But
considering where he was and where he is now that
you're going to continue to work him into the starting
rotation because you don't have a choice.
Speaker 5 (51:13):
The question is, when.
Speaker 10 (51:14):
Everybody's healthy and back, where is the guy if this
is who he is, or is there another level of
we think he's going to return to prominence And I
don't know the answer to that yet.
Speaker 5 (51:25):
You know he puts time in and work.
Speaker 10 (51:27):
Where's the long term fit when everybody's healthy For Lance mccullors,
is he a starter? Is he a frontline, top three
or four guy in your rotation?
Speaker 5 (51:37):
Again?
Speaker 10 (51:38):
And I think that's what they're trying to work to
because he's got stuff, there's no argument there. Then the
question is how long do you trust it? Because I
still think people are treading lightly on that to saying Okay,
can he continue to give you inning after inning throughout
the entire year.
Speaker 5 (51:53):
And hold up?
Speaker 10 (51:54):
That's my biggest concern, not does he have stuff we
know he's got that will he hold up as the
ends start to mount?
Speaker 9 (52:01):
Well, I mean, and that is a legitimate concern. I
mean again, trained response is kind of like what you
know we were talking about earlier with your and on.
It's the same deal with Lance. It's you kind of
wait for the other shoe to drop. Oh, he's missing
a start. He shouldn't be out more than one start.
Then it's two starts. I mean, it's it's things like that.
I would say that ideally to answer your question back
into the rotation at this moment, I mean, that's that's
(52:24):
what I could hope for four or five starter in
your rotation. But again, with the injuries that you have
right now, it's very much that you need him to
be your number three at this moment.
Speaker 10 (52:36):
Yeah, and you don't want that message of well, I've
been using him a lot.
Speaker 5 (52:40):
We're gonna have to back off some innings.
Speaker 10 (52:42):
Right, Dan, We're gonna have to weil, we got to
slow and we got to skip a start for him,
right You don't want to hear that. So I mean
you're pulling for him because the team needs him and
he'll make for a hell of a story for him.
I think in his mind he set up that he's
a starter and that's where he's going to be and
this team, if he can prove that that's who he is,
(53:04):
it'll be a great benefit for them, Because you're right,
the bullpen'll find ways. It's the length of the starting
pitching and right now it has nothing to do with performance,
has everything to do with most of all one guy
getting healthy and Lance mccullor's working his way back. But
between Blanco was Nesky out. We know the Spencer Eric getnything.
(53:24):
Considering where they are. If I told you at the
beginning of the year this was going to be Jordon's situation.
Walker was going to be hitting two oh two Diez,
his start would be late, you would not have you
would not have Alex Bregman or Kyle Tucker. Jordon would
be out a significant amount of time and three of
your five starting rotation guys at the beginning of the
(53:45):
year would be missing starts. One would be out for
the year and the other two are still holding on
for and mccullors would be in and we're not sure.
Speaker 5 (53:53):
How long he can last.
Speaker 10 (53:55):
And I told you they were above five hundred and
within two or three games the first place, what would
you say, Oh, absolutely, take it the right so I
understand what we want. But considering where you are with
what you've had, I would say that while it's then ice,
I get because you don't want like Jake to go
(54:15):
cold and paying you to go through a cold streak,
and now too, they to go back to it to
I mean, and you're down to stay out. But considering well, man,
this team's been pretty damn resilient over the last couple
of years. When they've lost somebody, they have found a
way to stay not just stay afloat, stay alive and
be competitive. This is no different. But considering all that,
(54:37):
if I'd told you that was going to be the
case when we started June first, you'd be looking at
me like, there's no way there.
Speaker 5 (54:42):
Over five hundred. They're sure as hell no way there.
Speaker 10 (54:44):
Within striking distance the first place, and I'll be damned,
but here they are.
Speaker 9 (54:48):
For sure, and hopefully they can be able to build
off of this as I mean you pointed to it,
the resiliency of this team so far. You'd like for
that resiliency to be able to pay off. Hopefully it will.
All right, coming up, it was a perfect day until
it wasn't.
Speaker 11 (55:03):
We'll explain what we mean right here.
Speaker 9 (55:04):
It is a Shawn Salisbury Show, Sports Talk seven to ninety.
Speaker 7 (55:08):
The Shawn Salisbury Show.
Speaker 4 (55:10):
Put ours smart ass on your smart speaker.
Speaker 10 (55:15):
Google play Shawn Salisbury on iHeartRadio.
Speaker 13 (55:21):
All right, Sean, what are.
Speaker 7 (55:23):
You hearing out there now? The Salisbury's takeout? Salisbury Takeout
on the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 9 (55:32):
It is the Salisbury stake Out. Astros back in action
tonight against the Athletics, quick two games serious here to
keep this homestand rolling. The Thunder taken a three to
one series lead in the Western Conference Finals over the Timberwolves,
and the Texans gonna get back on the practice field
tomorrow for OTA's. Sean, you know that I'm planning a
(55:54):
wedding right now, so got that on the horizon and
I'm hoping that I don't meet the same fate that Kylie,
an Australian girl met so recently she called into the
Late Drive with Ben liam and Bell radio show over
there in Australia and had shared a story about her
(56:16):
how her marriage didn't even make it to the end
of the day. And there's even a chaser to this shot.
She said, I had a really short marriage. Wasn't even
twenty four hours. We got married, beautiful wedding ceremony, did
the pictures beautiful during the photo shoot.
Speaker 7 (56:32):
He was the love of my life.
Speaker 9 (56:33):
Then the reception rolled around and the groom said deuces
disappeared without even a trace. Nobody had any idea where
the hell he was. Well, it came around that, you know,
I mean, as soon as the reception ends, you get
the send off, all of that, you know, people with
the sparklers throwing rice at you, whatever it might be.
You get in the car, you drive off, go the airport,
(56:55):
you go on your honeymoon. She had no choice but
to cancel the honeymoon, and she had to deal with
the embarrassment of family and friends asking hey, where's the groom. Well,
it wasn't until months later that the groom turned back up, Hey,
where you been?
Speaker 1 (57:08):
And who she?
Speaker 7 (57:09):
Wait? I know who she is.
Speaker 9 (57:12):
It was Kylie's cousin and apparently the two were in
a relationship.
Speaker 5 (57:18):
Oh how lovely.
Speaker 10 (57:21):
So you say, yes, you disappear, don't go on the honeymoon,
and within twenty four hours and you're banging the cousin.
I'll see in a month, is how you said? A
month or two later?
Speaker 7 (57:32):
Yeah, it was.
Speaker 11 (57:33):
It didn't see the exact number of.
Speaker 5 (57:36):
I'm making love. Yeah, I met making love well while later.
Speaker 9 (57:39):
Well, of course, I mean, you know it's one of
those Yeah they made love. Yeah, I mean you know
he found his person, I guess. I mean he thought
he had his person, but then he realized, oh hey,
wait a minute. Like it's almost like that Alec Baldwin
movie The Marrying Man, you know, like he just kept
getting married and married, and then he finally met Ken Basinger,
and well see how that played out.
Speaker 5 (57:57):
Yeah, I'm just curious.
Speaker 10 (58:00):
Why would you Now this may sound just too way
too logical when you put it this way. If you're
making if you're gonna do what he did, there is
no logic.
Speaker 5 (58:09):
That surrounds you.
Speaker 10 (58:10):
And you're you're, you're, you're a bit of a I
don't know if narcissist, cheater, whatever you want to put
on him, uh, coward. Well, if you're if you like
the cousin, eventually everybody's gonna find out, right, I mean,
if that's the case correct, you would probably think you're right.
Do you think eventually somebody's gonna find out? So I
(58:31):
don't understand why you wouldn't have just out of respect
just I guess maybe because you're cheating, and then maybe
I'm maybe I'm the going at it wrong because if
you do that, you obviously don't even respect yourself.
Speaker 5 (58:44):
But why wouldn't you just say, man, let's not do this.
Speaker 10 (58:47):
I like your cousin or I like somebody else, I
don't want to put you through this and embarrassing because
I'm not in love, and and deal with it then
as opposed to over the next Eventually you know you're
going to have to to chest up to it and
face up to it. Well, why run from it early?
I've never understood why it feels like you got to
dislike or actually have a lot of disdain towards someone
(59:10):
to marry him, put them through that and then force
them to suffer and not know what happened. You just
go and there's no closure, there's a there's.
Speaker 5 (59:18):
A place in hell.
Speaker 10 (59:19):
I know this was supposed to be funny, not funny
for her, but in truth, good that it happened then,
because she she would have been dogged out at some point.
Speaker 5 (59:28):
I mean good that it happened right off the bat.
Speaker 10 (59:30):
And you know, deep in love and you've got four kids,
and then the guy does it. But and I'm not
that's not a self righteous moral high horse, but what
kind of human being does that to somebody and just
leaves them stranded like that without any closure, and then
is banging or making love to a a family member,
basically a cousin.
Speaker 5 (59:50):
Why why wouldn't you just stay straight up?
Speaker 10 (59:51):
I can't do this, man, I'm this fraudulent because you're
because you're a coward, right, yeah, you're gonna come back
and face it that once you're together. Oh yeah, man, sorry,
we just didn't do it. But who does that to
a human being? Who does that to a woman or
a woman doing that to a man at the altar?
And just and not only that, you didn't leave standy
aultil you married him and then like I'll be right back,
(01:00:14):
and then you got the old Irish could we don't
see you this case. I normally find you when you
leave me, you know, go to a bar and have
a drink, and you don't say goodbye because you don't
like goodbyes. I see the next day at work. But
in this case, yeah, man, I'd like to laugh because
it's a It has the makings of a funny story.
Speaker 5 (01:00:32):
But in the end she'll be.
Speaker 10 (01:00:34):
Laughing the one who didn't marry him, because the chances
are that the cousin and the husband probably I don't know.
I don't know if they would stand the test of
time if he got into life. Maybe they just do
love each other. But I don't know what kind of
courage or what kind of balls you. You don't have
to just leave a person hanging like that. I've never
understood it. I just have to just set up and
(01:00:57):
say you know what, I can't do it and facing
me then, and then you're at least free to go
do what you want, as opposed to come back and
have to redo it again because you were married. Because
he is married, right, they got to go through a divorce, right, yeah?
Or did Chigo get it annulled because he wasn't around.
Speaker 5 (01:01:13):
I don't know.
Speaker 10 (01:01:15):
I mean, was there a part of her that thought
he died? This guy disappeared off the face ear to
anybody know if he was alive. I mean, who does
that to somebody? Well, well, I guess somebody like this.
Speaker 9 (01:01:25):
Here's the other part, because I mean there was a
Bravo show that I mean, I think it was based
off true stories. I would think, if you're Kylie, you
gotta start going to check the bank accounts and make
sure that he wasn't some shyster like you know, a
scam artist here who got you to get married and
then cleaned you out of all of your financials. I mean,
(01:01:46):
because we all do we've seen that happen before.
Speaker 10 (01:01:49):
Well, the first thing that happens that that's the case
when the banks open on Monday morning, he's not he
has no access to any of it.
Speaker 5 (01:01:58):
If he's got the of it, that's exactly right.
Speaker 10 (01:02:01):
You you you close that damn thing down. If you've
got to stand at the bank so he doesn't walk
in there.
Speaker 5 (01:02:06):
Yeah, I don't.
Speaker 10 (01:02:08):
I just I don't understand the whole thing because there's
probably got that fear what happened. And then there's those
I would imagine she went through that. There's no way
he's cheating on me, is he? You know, all those saying,
oh man, is he healthy? And then you don't hear
from him. It's like, good gracious, you're worried about the
range of emotions, and they just to realize the guy's
a coward. Now listen, if their marriage works out, I
(01:02:30):
mean he and the cousin end up working out and
live happily ever after and raise five great kids, well
then then I guess in a weird, roundabout way, it
worked out for everybody.
Speaker 5 (01:02:39):
But what an odd way to do it.
Speaker 10 (01:02:41):
I just I just never understood why you just don't
have the guts to step up and do it.
Speaker 5 (01:02:45):
But the woman, the bride will be better.
Speaker 10 (01:02:48):
Off for him, man, needless to say, I mean, think
about that.
Speaker 5 (01:02:52):
Where'd you go? Well, our honeymoon, we're leaving tomorrow.
Speaker 10 (01:02:56):
I think he's he went to the restroom, or maybe
he's just hung over drunk.
Speaker 5 (01:03:01):
Well, where is he? I don't know. Well, we're supposed
to be on a flight.
Speaker 10 (01:03:05):
I don't have any idea, but out of APB Well
he's not dead, nobody's found him. Well, oh, well, where's
our cousin? Ironically, she disappeared too. I haven't seen her.
Huh they come back? Yeah, what a what a weird saga.
I don't know how you carry that around, the guilt
just on a human being. Hell, i'd carry guilt on
(01:03:26):
the second of why I say, I can't do this,
go back and go back. Let's just tell the truth
and then you like hide it. What do you think
it's just gonna go away? You're married, dude, I don't
get it, but you're right. Check the bank account. And
she's probably sitting back thinking, thank you, dear Lord for
what was an odd message, the one that I was
able to get now instead of four years into a
marriage and two two year old you know, a two
(01:03:46):
year old and a three year old. Uh now their
dad's bolted on him because he's a pig. So yeah,
feel sorry for the lady who knows the reasons why.
But what an odd way to go about your business
at a wedding, Right, how about just saying no, okay,
I just don't get married.
Speaker 9 (01:04:01):
If that's the case, here's too hoping that Kylie finds
happiness after a very bizarre saga.
Speaker 5 (01:04:08):
Yes, probably his brother.
Speaker 10 (01:04:10):
Yeah, I was gonna say, hey, maybe she'll marry his
brother if he has one or a family member, but
or maybe you should probably keep, you know, keep that away.
I don't think you have to worry. Dan, You're gonna
wake up and she's gonna be with your cousin. I
think you and your girl are headed towards a happy
marriage and everything's that be just fine, brother, So don't
start throwing you right when you through the Oh, well,
you know, Sean, I'm getting married soon. And then he
(01:04:32):
went into this store. I said, Dan, don't do not
throw that out into the universe.
Speaker 11 (01:04:36):
No, it wouldn't It wouldn't be me, wouldn't be her.
Speaker 5 (01:04:39):
I mean, there you go.
Speaker 7 (01:04:40):
Yeah, there he's going to say.
Speaker 9 (01:04:41):
I mean, I'm trying to think of, you know, the
possibilities on my end, and I mean all of my
cousins are spoken for, and I only have one who
would be a possibility, and he's already married with three kids.
So I don't see that happening. They've only met once before.
I don't I don't think that there are any legs
to that possibility.
Speaker 10 (01:05:00):
Yeah, as long as it's you and I get, you know,
going after the guy cousin, then we had a whole
different saga. You know what I'm saying, Dandy, a whole
different saga.
Speaker 9 (01:05:09):
It would it would definitely make four interesting stories on station.
Speaker 5 (01:05:13):
Yeah right yeah twenty twenty five though, Dan, who the hell?
Speaker 7 (01:05:16):
That's whatever makes you?
Speaker 5 (01:05:18):
I think you and your I think I think you
and your lady are safe.
Speaker 7 (01:05:22):
I feel good. I feel good.
Speaker 9 (01:05:23):
I think just our largest issue right now is just
making sure that we can get the power back on
for the puppies. That's That's about as as far as
our issues go right now.
Speaker 10 (01:05:33):
Well, I think that if that's the case, that's your
biggest issue, life's going to be okay.
Speaker 5 (01:05:37):
So it was a storm that bad, well it was
for us.
Speaker 9 (01:05:40):
I mean it's it's seriously, I thought somebody fired off
a shotgun outside my house. Like I almost felt like
I needed to get my weapon, which is within arm's
reach of the bed, and start to act like I
was in a John wu movie, Like I almost was
ready to do a barrel roll and fire.
Speaker 7 (01:05:58):
Off some rounds.
Speaker 5 (01:06:00):
Really.
Speaker 9 (01:06:00):
Oh yeah, it scared the hell out of me, I thought. Man,
as soon as that happened, the power goes out. So
I'm like, oh, man, like you know, is it like
one of those movies. Am I gonna start seeing like
laser beams coming through my house of people trying to
raid me?
Speaker 1 (01:06:14):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (01:06:15):
It hasn't been pretty hot there too.
Speaker 10 (01:06:17):
Yeah yeah, but I mean you want to get that
on for the dogs, right, yeah, just for everybody's okay,
and hopefully yeah, and my new one was headed there.
I just hope, hope everybody's okay. Man, it's that season.
Speaker 5 (01:06:29):
Be careful.
Speaker 10 (01:06:30):
You know that that the hurricanes are rolling tornadoes. Tough time,
So you guys be careful out there.
Speaker 9 (01:06:35):
Just you know, we just throw up like a favor
to mother Nature right now, like you can do the
thunderstorm thing, just maybe not like in the overnight hours.
Speaker 7 (01:06:43):
If we could do.
Speaker 5 (01:06:43):
That, we would be great.
Speaker 7 (01:06:45):
So there we go.
Speaker 9 (01:06:46):
All right, we're gonna hear from Dana Brown. We've been
talking about Jordan Alvarez. When could he return? Maybe Dana
Brown sheds some light on that he visited with Robert
Ford over the weekend. We'll play some of that for
you right here. It is Sewn so Asbury Show, Sports
Talk seven ninety and The Seawan Salisbury Show continued. Something
(01:07:09):
down under no, not thunder down under the baby.
Speaker 10 (01:07:13):
I thought that maybe you were more into the thunder
down Under than you were a thunder in the NBA
Western Conference Final.
Speaker 9 (01:07:20):
My experience with the thunder down Under is only seeing
the advertisements at the airport when you land in Vegas.
Speaker 5 (01:07:26):
That's all.
Speaker 10 (01:07:26):
That's all I'm called. I'm calling, Uh, I'm calling a
little bit. Are you sure I can't call BS on that?
Speaker 5 (01:07:34):
Oh?
Speaker 9 (01:07:35):
You one hundred percent can not call BS because I
have I have not once set foot the shows of
recent times that I've seen.
Speaker 11 (01:07:43):
I think it was a circus.
Speaker 9 (01:07:44):
Solet like Michael Jackson one that we went and saw,
and I'll be honest here, I had probably a few
too many drinks at dinner before we went and saw it.
Speaker 5 (01:07:55):
You I'm calling. I'm calling Cap Tripoli. I'm calling Cap.
I think Danny.
Speaker 10 (01:08:01):
I think Danny. I think Dan has been to the
thunder down Under. I just I'm gonna go with it.
Yes or no triple? You could say wholeheartedly. It hasn't happened, Dan,
is what you're saying.
Speaker 7 (01:08:16):
No cap.
Speaker 10 (01:08:17):
So you I'll call a cap and you're giving me
no cap. You're saying the only thunder you've watched is
led by Shake Gilgess Alexander, not the thunder down Under.
Speaker 9 (01:08:27):
That's yeah, previously KD. Russell Westbrook, James Harden.
Speaker 5 (01:08:31):
Yeah, yeah, all right, I'm a buy in. Okay, I'm
buying in.
Speaker 10 (01:08:36):
I just just I was just gonna ask you to
give me the insight on the thunder down Under.
Speaker 5 (01:08:41):
You know, I think it's I mean, just for a friend.
I'm asking for a friend. As they said, from.
Speaker 9 (01:08:46):
What I've been told, it's a bunch of shirtless Australian dudes.
And I think that there was a time that Vinnie
from Jersey Shore was part of it too.
Speaker 5 (01:08:57):
Was he one of the Jersey shorecast members?
Speaker 7 (01:09:00):
Yeah, yeah, he was the one.
Speaker 9 (01:09:02):
He he would later on become known as the Keto
Guido because he was really into the Keto diets, but
he wasn't one of the Muscle ket Yeah. Yeah, like
Ronnie obviously, he's one of the muscle guys. You know,
Polly Paulie, uh d, he's he's one of the muscle guys.
And uh the situation when he stays out of prison
(01:09:23):
is also one of.
Speaker 5 (01:09:24):
Those guys, say what's crazy?
Speaker 10 (01:09:26):
You know all those You're you're one of the Like
I said, you can quote a movie. You quote a
movie line from when you aren't even born. I love movies,
you're you love quotes from movies. You can refer to
him like, I mean, you're you're like that, you can
just you're like, uh, you're Siri, dude. And when it
comes to movies that there's very few that I haven't seen,
(01:09:46):
but you are your ability to name the Jersey Shore people. Okay,
do you have a well what is your guilty pleasure?
Speaker 5 (01:09:59):
Did?
Speaker 10 (01:09:59):
Are you a Are you a one of those the
reality show watcher like like or Money Housewives?
Speaker 5 (01:10:06):
You are, aren't you? Yes?
Speaker 10 (01:10:07):
Yes, yes, I remember it before I was gonna say,
I tend I picture you as a guilty pleasure that
you kind of get into reality that you watch Jersey Shore.
Speaker 9 (01:10:19):
I believe you. Oh yeah, no, still still do. I
mean it's kind of tapered off over the years, but
you're a guy that.
Speaker 5 (01:10:25):
Could tell me what happened on the Kardashians show, can't you.
Speaker 9 (01:10:28):
No, not not the Kardashians anymore. I think like most
people got very much fatigue.
Speaker 10 (01:10:34):
Fatigued by it. Yeah, but you start you have seen
an episode or two?
Speaker 9 (01:10:38):
Yeah, Now, back in like two thousand and eight, two
thousand and nine, was definitely watching keeping up, but then
things started to get weird, and I'll leave it at that.
Speaker 10 (01:10:47):
I'm never in truth, and maybe I should, and I
don't wear that. I'm not saying aware it with the
badge wan or maybe I should, because I know they're wackle.
But I when you went through the names, I know
the situation because isn't he like, are one of those guys?
Speaker 5 (01:10:59):
Didn't they make appearances spending records in Vegas full of you?
Speaker 10 (01:11:04):
There you go right then that that's not the situation.
The situation the one who has been in a little
bit of trouble at times, right, okay, But I don't know.
The only one I ever remember is when Snooky correct
they were like given she was given speeches at universities.
I remember they were paying her a fee to go
speak to like a like a university.
Speaker 5 (01:11:27):
I'll look it up. I'm just how I'm thinking she's
making that to do? What? What is she going to
speak on?
Speaker 1 (01:11:33):
What?
Speaker 10 (01:11:34):
I guess how to market yourself as a I don't know,
but in America you can make money doing just about anything.
So I don't know. Excuse me, I don't know the
names impressive that you do. I mean you went by
it and you just you flew. So I was wondering
what that guilty pleasure is, and I think that I
(01:11:54):
can see you turning into it. And I don't mean
a negative because you've got the quotes back. I can
see you coming back with story saying Sean, you should
have seen Desperate Housewives of Orange County is unbelievable last night.
Speaker 5 (01:12:05):
I think I think you have that in you.
Speaker 1 (01:12:07):
Well.
Speaker 9 (01:12:07):
The only the only PSA that I would give to
single guys out there is some people look down on,
you know, being fans of Bravo shows. If you're single,
it is one of the best icebreakers that you can
have to get in and get the conversation.
Speaker 10 (01:12:22):
Going, Oh it is I mean to the to to
a zoid. Yes, easily easily. So if you're like in
a bar and all of a sudden, so you start
that they're gonna look at you like, okay, this conversation bak.
But what if they look at you like you're a
wacko that you watch that? Is there a chance that happens?
Or is it usually successful?
Speaker 5 (01:12:40):
You think?
Speaker 7 (01:12:40):
I think it's us.
Speaker 9 (01:12:41):
It's it's got a good batting average, good hand based percentage. Yes, absolutely,
Oh ps pretty well very much easily. Yes, yeah, it
can lock you up a long term deal.
Speaker 5 (01:12:53):
Man, I got I'll tell you.
Speaker 10 (01:12:56):
I'm left behind on the thing because I got to
catch up on some reality shows in because I don't
even I never watched one.
Speaker 5 (01:13:02):
I've never seen the Jersey Shore.
Speaker 10 (01:13:04):
Yeah yet Yeah, I've heard some say it's hilarious, some
say it's I mean, so maybe maybe maybe I got
to go back and watch one or two of them.
And that's what I'd I'd stand up and cheer if
I could take Because if you, if you lined him
up and said, okay, Sean, who's that, I'd be able
to pick out, Well, that's snooky chick. I don't know
if i'd be able to tell you which ones Paul Paulie,
(01:13:29):
which ones? I don't know if i'd be able to
tell you who's who that that's true story. I don't know.
You mentioned the names. I said, okay, now I got
the names. Now I got to match them up with
the name with the proNT with the face. Excuse me,
I could do that. It's the snooky the one I think.
But I don't think that if they all waltzed in
here that I'd be able to play Duck, duck goose
(01:13:49):
and pick out whose name went with which which dude?
Speaker 7 (01:13:52):
I would think is there.
Speaker 5 (01:13:53):
More than one? How many girls are in it?
Speaker 7 (01:13:55):
I think it's three and three.
Speaker 9 (01:13:56):
I think the original cast was actually no four right,
four dudes, and then I think three chicks. Let's see,
you had Paulie, Vinnie situation Ronnie, and then you had
Sam Jwile, Snookie, and then for a time Angeline Ers
is what they call her, but she also got kicked
off the first season and then she's subsequently come back
(01:14:19):
throughout time, but she's kind of at arm's length with
the rest of the group, the other seven.
Speaker 5 (01:14:24):
Who's the biggest area?
Speaker 10 (01:14:25):
If you said net worth, who would you think has
the biggest net worth of the group right now kind
of extended their career.
Speaker 9 (01:14:32):
I would say probably Paulie with his Vegas residencies, but
a close second. I mean Vinnie is charging. But you
mentioned Snookie. I think Snookie probably does really like I
think like she got in with like HSN or somebody
like that, like with some products, and I mean, you know,
she's really like leaned into the marriage with the kids thing,
(01:14:54):
so like that kind of people. Oh yeah, no, she's
married with I think two kids and they live next
door her and her husband to Tiki Barber.
Speaker 5 (01:15:03):
Nice.
Speaker 10 (01:15:05):
Oh the things, the things that I find out for
my partner, how about it?
Speaker 5 (01:15:09):
That's what I'm here, man in sight. That's great. Oh,
by the way, Jordon's still hurt.
Speaker 7 (01:15:14):
That's it.
Speaker 5 (01:15:14):
Yeah, have to figure i'd let you know that for sure.
Speaker 9 (01:15:16):
For sure, we'll actually let you hear from Dana Brown
here coming up next, John Brandon, see you guys right there.
We'll get you guys involved in the conversation. Two seven
one three two one two five seven ninety is the
number to jump aboard. It is Sean Salisbury Show Sports
Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 7 (01:15:31):
This is the Sean Salisbury Show, Salsbury.
Speaker 5 (01:15:36):
That's beautiful.
Speaker 9 (01:15:39):
Without I'm trying to think, who is Yeah, six years
right right, Juwan Roberts won't be back, but I mean
that's pretty much all you're losing from last year's team,
So huge news for Kelvin Sampson's program. Let's hear from
Dana Brown here as we get back into the Astros conversation.
Speaker 11 (01:15:58):
Jordn when will well he returned?
Speaker 9 (01:16:01):
Dana Brown shedding a little light on that on Sunday
with Robert Ford.
Speaker 16 (01:16:05):
Yeah, it's still unknown, but he's doing well full baseball
activity right now.
Speaker 13 (01:16:10):
Mainly it's how does the hand feel.
Speaker 16 (01:16:13):
You know, once he gets to a place where it
feels pretty good, you know, we're gonna turn him loose.
The one thing, as I mentioned before, what we don't
want is for him to come back too soon, re
injure it, and then be sitting out for another three weeks.
So if he can just continue to let it heal,
and then you know, once he starts to take swings
(01:16:33):
and he doesn't feel anything, we'll we'll turn him loose.
Speaker 7 (01:16:37):
So turn them loose.
Speaker 9 (01:16:38):
So the beginning part of that right there, Sean, I'm
not thinking that it's going to be the athletics series,
and it sounds like it's not likely that it would
be the series against the Rays. So at that point
it would be a solid month that you've been without
Jordan Alvarez.
Speaker 10 (01:16:56):
And from judging from that, just from listening to what
Dana and he'll join us tomorrow depending on the getaway
day and his travel, if not.
Speaker 5 (01:17:07):
Later in the week.
Speaker 10 (01:17:08):
But our normal schedule is of now is Wednesday at
nine point thirty, and obviously that the name will come up,
but with that in mind. Does it not sound like
now it's on Jordan, then when he's healthy, when he feels,
when he feels pain free. No, I mean, if it's
not structural, it's now, it's how he feels. So what
his threshold of pain was, because I get the feeling
(01:17:30):
that with all the baseball activity, and then with Dana saying,
now just a matter of you know how he feels,
then we'll cut him loose. So I'm assuming it just
comes down to when he feels like he can handle
the pain or that it's subsided, that he can go
swing the bat am I am I.
Speaker 5 (01:17:48):
Correct in saying that. No, from his judging from his comments.
Speaker 7 (01:17:51):
That's what it sounds like.
Speaker 9 (01:17:52):
I mean, because I've asked, You've asked, We've all asked,
either Dana or to Joe Aspata. Is it pretty much
just as simple as Jordan gets out of the cage
one day, gives you a thumbs up and says, yeah,
I'm good to go.
Speaker 11 (01:18:04):
That's what it sounds like, is the case with him
right now?
Speaker 10 (01:18:06):
So pain threshold, I've told you people's are different. What
pain threshold may have kept me or you out for
a week, may have kept somebody else out a month
and vice versa. So you know the big man, you
know he wants to play, and you know he wants
to do, but you do not want this lingering. Soft
tissue injuries, hands, shoulder, legs, you know, lower body they linger.
Speaker 5 (01:18:32):
If you're not careful.
Speaker 10 (01:18:34):
And this the one thing this team's been probably I
don't even know if overboard, but overprotective is they make
sure that when they bring a guy back, he's ready
to go. It's rare that they bring a guy back
and then we say, yeah, brought it back too soon,
needs another two weeks now.
Speaker 5 (01:18:52):
That is rare here.
Speaker 10 (01:18:54):
They are usually went and out, take more time, which
I'm okay with as long as when you take more time,
did it that that injury never becomes an issue the
rest of the year. So they are very good at
making sure that they'd give ample time. And for us
as impatient fans, at times we feel like it's probably
too much, but you can never judge the threshold of
(01:19:16):
pain for some I got buddies of mine that had
absolutely no business playing none. I'm talking about zero business
playing they did. I remember doing an interview with Brett
Farv Dan years ago. Farv and I sat down to
an interview. I went to Green Bay and it was
remember when he was going through his thumb injury, Dan,
when he broke his thumb. I don't know if you
(01:19:36):
were too young, but he was going through He had
like his hand as his thumb was bob bad. And
I looked at him off camera, I said, should you
be playing?
Speaker 3 (01:19:45):
No?
Speaker 5 (01:19:46):
But he just he was built different.
Speaker 10 (01:19:49):
His threshold of pain that would have kept some people
out a year. The guy probably played in forty games
in his career. Fifty games, had no business playing. But
at that point in time, the was there. And I
even asked him whose records more impressive, Your straight start
game or cal Ripmans, And he goes, oh, Cols for sure.
And yet I'm sitting here thinking, man, Cal probably say yours.
(01:20:10):
But I use him as an example because certain people
injuries it probably would have kept the quarterback out for
eight weeks. He played on the other side of it
for some that you think, man, that that shouldn't keep
somebody out long, And then you're like, well, the normal
human being keeps out longer. So the threshold of pain
it hits different, Your ability to deal with it maybe
(01:20:31):
different than yourdons Jordan's might be different than Reggie Jackson's,
who might be different than Brett Favre, who may be
different than you know, Demko Ryans and when he played,
or maybe different than JJ Watts. The key is that
if he doesn't feel it. We've also had players in basketball.
I mean you remember, I mean how many times the
guy's been pronounced fit and ready to go, that the
(01:20:51):
ankle's healthy. I think it happened with Derrick Rose, if
I'm not mistaken. You remember he came back is knee
and he he said, well, they pronounced it and they
said he's fit. He's passed every physical test, but he
doesn't feel comfortable playing. We've seen that a couple of
times as players. So with Jordon, I'd rather have him
missed now and be around the rest of the year,
(01:21:13):
doesn't linger. The thing that'll really get you is if
it's there and soft. That's the danger of a soft
tissue injury. A receiver's hamstring stay unhealthy and are that
way the whole year if if they're not careful. So
I get the careful part, but when we're at a
distance and we're not in there as fans, media, we
get a little impatient, but they've been They've aired on
(01:21:33):
the side of caution regularly. Let's hope this one pays
off and that Jordon is at one hundred percent. But
it simply seems to me it comes down to how
much can he handle and maybe he won't be pain
free for a long time. Maybe it's gonna maybe it's
one of those years you just got to deal with it.
I don't know, because you know, it's a lot of
hush hush stuff. But when he does get back, let's
(01:21:54):
hope that it's that he's one hundred percent and then
you can get that power back because Dan, I don't
think they can go where they want to go. Oh
if he's not healthy, regardless how good the pitching is.
I just think you've got to have him. But all
of a sudden, none the Yankees can go a certain distance.
But without Aaron Judge, they're not going all the way.
They're just not You're not winning the whole thing, and
this team's not getting where they want to go, regardless
(01:22:15):
of production from others. Without the left handed bat, that
guy in the lineup I'm talking about for the majority
of the rest of the season.
Speaker 5 (01:22:22):
You got to have him.
Speaker 10 (01:22:23):
Those those guys, while replaceable at some point, because it's
pro sports, the truth matters. If there is a replaceable
on a team over the course of the season, the
Big Fella is one of them, no doubt. Yeah.
Speaker 9 (01:22:35):
Well, I mean, especially to what he's meant for you
in terms of the power production he gives you in
just I mean, being that force in the middle of
the lineup. You definitely would much rather have him than not,
and that's what the Astros are hoping they can have here.
In short order, we'll continue this conversation here as we
get into our three of the show, John Brandon, you
want to join them Sebon one three two one two
(01:22:56):
five seven ninety against Sebon one three two one two
five seven nine zero. It is Sean Salisbury Show, Sports
Talk seven ninety, kbm.
Speaker 5 (01:23:05):

Speaker 5 (01:23:25):
Salisbury, Salisbury, Houston. Okay, let's do this.
Speaker 3 (01:23:31):
Sewan Salisbury to USC Troupes, longtime friend Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 4 (01:23:37):
Dan Matthewscues. This is the Seawan Salisbury Show.
Speaker 9 (01:23:46):
The Texans going to get back on the OTA practice
field tomorrow, and reports out saying that Milo Susan planning
to withdraw from the NBA Draft and come back to
play at the.
Speaker 11 (01:23:58):
University of Houston.
Speaker 9 (01:24:00):
We are into the Astros here on this Tuesday edition
of the show. Someone three two and two five seven
ninety the number two jump aboard. Let's keep it going
with John and Fresno wants to weigh in.
Speaker 17 (01:24:10):
John, good morning, Hey, good morning, guys, Good morning, Dan,
hey Son, good to hear you, boss, my friend.
Speaker 1 (01:24:17):
Goodness. Did you back you too?
Speaker 5 (01:24:18):
Brother? I appreciate you. My first vacation about eight years,
so it's kind of nice. That's great to be well,
it's great to be back with you.
Speaker 3 (01:24:26):
Man.
Speaker 5 (01:24:26):
I miss you, guys. Thank you.
Speaker 1 (01:24:27):
Yeah, you deserve it. Man.
Speaker 17 (01:24:29):
Hey, look here, one thing I like about the Astros
Yeah you right, Seun.
Speaker 1 (01:24:33):
You can't replace to you. But one thing that gave.
Speaker 17 (01:24:35):
The manage the chance to do is success that we
got on this team and.
Speaker 1 (01:24:39):
Them young guns, them young guns.
Speaker 17 (01:24:41):
Hey, you look here, and you know what the moves
he made by making opinions the lead off Hlling having
the best year so far of his career. Miles is
having the best year so for up his career. Hey, lord, behore,
you found a superstar out there coming up, cam switch
solilified right field, third basemen is shitting, he's raking. Then this,
(01:25:04):
and then you got your first basement that's beginning to
hit now pitching this deep bullet pen is showing out.
So what I'm saying is that by them having this
team together and the way they plan allows you're done
to come back healthy. So that's why they don't have
to rush them back. And hey, look here the way
they playing just to be a couple of games out
(01:25:24):
of the division. Hey do you take that ind of
the day. So my question is, letna hang up. Is
when you're done come back, how do you think they're
gonna work that thing?
Speaker 1 (01:25:34):
And well, he won't break.
Speaker 17 (01:25:36):
Up the up his lobsters, and uh, who's gonna be
the odd man out?
Speaker 1 (01:25:41):
And I hang up in this.
Speaker 9 (01:25:42):
Yeah, I appreciate the call, John. I don't really think
there is an odd man out right now, Sean, Because
of all the things we talked about this morning with
the lineup, you notice we haven't mentioned Janar Diez. He's
another guy that's been incredibly inconsistent for this team this
year so much to the point that Joe has had
to rely on Victor Carratini, I think a lot more
(01:26:02):
than he wanted to be able to at this point.
Speaker 10 (01:26:06):
Yeah, you know, and brought his name up earlier. The inconsistency.
You still haven't had him rake like you expected. Hence
Victor Carrattini, who I think is one of the more
unhralded important players to a team in this league, especially
this team. They've needed him leadership, versatility to step in
and he just continues to do it. And the guy's
(01:26:27):
been reliable. This isn't the same Yainer that is that
we expect to be an All Star. Correct, it's not
that guy yet, no so, but we've we've seen flashes
of it last year.
Speaker 5 (01:26:40):
The guy can play.
Speaker 10 (01:26:41):
Yet well, you haven't seen his consistency, because when you do,
the lineup would be again Panya Altuve, Jordan Walker Parades
or or whoever is in the four to five to
six hole, whoever you decide to put in there, Walker Parades, Yiner, Diaz, Yiner, Diaz,
(01:27:04):
Walker Parades those first six and even you know, hell,
the way that the you know that Jake Myers has played,
so you get seven.
Speaker 5 (01:27:13):
I mean, you're you're now looking.
Speaker 10 (01:27:15):
At a a roster that you say, okay, that can
rake as we had ert Alex mentioned earlier about the
way they can play.
Speaker 5 (01:27:22):
But think about it again.
Speaker 10 (01:27:24):
Al two Bays had his ups and downs this year,
started off fast and went through a lull. His bats
started to pick it up. Painia has been pretty damn
good all year long. Diaz up and down, Walker hasn't
hasn't stayed up.
Speaker 5 (01:27:35):
Jordan, I mean as far as his.
Speaker 10 (01:27:37):
Power, Jordan has been hurt and even before then it
was obviously bothered because the power wasn't there.
Speaker 5 (01:27:43):
I mean, and Paradis has been really good.
Speaker 10 (01:27:47):
So in truth, you've had two players in the first
six that have been consistently good this year, Parades and Paina.
The rest of them, I've had that Al two Bay
started hot, but the rest of them, whether it's injury
or performance, they have not been consistent. And this still,
this team is still above five hundred and still staring Chlaue,
(01:28:08):
I mean, can reach.
Speaker 5 (01:28:09):
Out and grab the division lead.
Speaker 10 (01:28:10):
And remember again Wesnsky, Spencer Arraghetti, uh Renelle Blanco getting
mccolors back after all this. I mean, I'm not saying
you know, it's not a matter of all this is
a great team, but you've got to consider, man if
I started taking players out of other lineups like this,
how many of them can sustain and survive it. And
(01:28:32):
that goes to their development of young players and a
pitcher stepping up and doing their thing.
Speaker 5 (01:28:36):
We see all France do it.
Speaker 10 (01:28:38):
You know, a year and a half or so ago
where they needed Renel Blanco last year.
Speaker 5 (01:28:42):
There's always somebody, But what's it?
Speaker 10 (01:28:47):
What will it be like when Yiner and Walker and
Jordann are all in the lineup and all rolling.
Speaker 5 (01:28:52):
Let's hope we see it.
Speaker 7 (01:28:54):
Well.
Speaker 9 (01:28:54):
It's also too I think one bit of good news
with Jiner is watching his at bats this weekend, which
I would say that probably Sean. I watched about ninety
percent of the games this weekend, obviously at Buzzfest on Saturday,
so I wasn't able to see the end of that game,
but did notice that he was starting to lay off
that slider that he has sent him kind of with
(01:29:14):
the butt going in the third base dugout and the
back going through the zone and not usually a good swing.
So if that's starting to be the case, you hope
that he's able to start jumping on the pitches that
are in the zone.
Speaker 10 (01:29:26):
Oh, there's absolutely no question because if he does, different ballgame.
But you are one correct, And wouldn't it be nice
to have all this going at once, stand for about
thirty games? I mean, you know, it be nice for
a month to say, okay, now make the rest of
them chase. But yes, they hit the balls you can
reach and are in the zone.
Speaker 5 (01:29:47):
Key.
Speaker 10 (01:29:47):
And it's not only for the Ironer Dias and for
the Christian Walkers and anybody else. But when Jordan's back
and healthy and swinging when he's average, I mean he
can o jep and carry it. When he's really good,
well then it's not even just his ability at the plate,
it's his presence.
Speaker 5 (01:30:07):
Guys like that impact the.
Speaker 10 (01:30:09):
Game even when they're not swinging well because the pitcher
still wonders, well, is this the time? So you're still
you know, protected, and you're still pitching. You're still not
going to try to You don't want to be the
reason he's out of his that he gets healthy on you.
And I'm not talking about physically, I'm talking about starts
feasting on you or whoever that is. You don't want
to be the guy. Uh oh, here we go. So
(01:30:33):
the whole key is, yeah, laying out of layingoff balls
out of it, which has been a big part of
paying his success this year in aggressiveness, but for other guys,
it's being able to drive the balls that are in
the zone that normally a guy like Jordan hits all
he uses foul pul the foul pole. So we're going
to find out when he gets back. The question is
when will he the threshold of pain kick in. And
(01:30:55):
then if Jiner and Christian Walker can add the power
bat that we think they both have and we've seen
it times from both, then it'll make for a really
good change up for this team because right now you're
getting a lot of good production from guys you probably
didn't expect it to plate.
Speaker 7 (01:31:13):
Well, I mean especially too.
Speaker 9 (01:31:14):
That's one of Jordan's calling cards is how good he
is at recognizing pitches that are outside the zone and
being able to square up the ones that are in
the zone. And I mean to the point you.
Speaker 5 (01:31:25):
Out of the ballpark the other way.
Speaker 10 (01:31:26):
Dan, when it's a pitch it's just off the plate,
then instead of rolling over on it, hits it the
other way.
Speaker 5 (01:31:31):
For a home running the Crawford boxes. That's who he is.
Speaker 10 (01:31:34):
And when he's seeing it like that, even if he
doesn't hit it, pitchers are afraid to throw it, so
you you know, they get a little they get a
little testy and little curious that you know, protection for
him is big, but also it's like anything a great
running back, even if he doesn't carry it in a game,
linebackers are afraid to be the reason why he runs
over them, so they still got to get stout and ready,
(01:31:56):
which helps play action over the top. Same thing here,
even when he's not the threat of jord On Alvaroz
enhances the lineup greatly because the pitcher is always there's
that anxiety of okay, don't let me be the reason
today is the reason he busts out of this and
then starts a forty five game where he's like as
good as areas in baseball.
Speaker 5 (01:32:16):
For sure, we've seen which we've.
Speaker 9 (01:32:17):
Seen well, and that's been the beauty of what you've
gotten out of Jeremy Pania and Jake Myers too, because
it seems like they have been able to lay off
some of those pitches and it's been able to yield
some good results for them, so hopefully that continues real
quick here, Brandon, let's squeeze in.
Speaker 11 (01:32:31):
Man, how you doing.
Speaker 10 (01:32:34):
Did you see the game?
Speaker 5 (01:32:36):
Fundake? Did hi? Sean Wie missed too, Shawn.
Speaker 11 (01:32:43):
He's happy to see you back.
Speaker 5 (01:32:45):
By.
Speaker 10 (01:32:45):
I was talking to Sorry Triple. He was asking me
a question about one of my reads. Yes, thank you.
It's good to be back, Brandon. I appreciate it. And uh,
you know, it felt like a long time, but here
we are astros still staring at first place. So I
appreciate it. Man, It's always nice to be back on
the show.
Speaker 3 (01:33:04):
Yeah, Dan, any any play for Brown?
Speaker 7 (01:33:12):
What's your question?
Speaker 5 (01:33:14):
Do you know any pitts Brown gonna be?
Speaker 10 (01:33:18):
Oh?
Speaker 9 (01:33:19):
I mean I think he's gonna be able to go
upwards of one hundred. I mean, I don't think there's
any any type of restrictions on Hunter Brown.
Speaker 11 (01:33:27):
You need some innings, Brandon.
Speaker 9 (01:33:29):
This has been a starting rotation that hadn't been able
to go very long in the games right now, So
hopefully tonight you get one of those really good Hunter
Brown performances of seven innings or so.
Speaker 5 (01:33:39):
You know, Brown?
Speaker 1 (01:33:40):
Good?
Speaker 11 (01:33:41):
What good I did on my game?
Speaker 5 (01:33:45):
Yeah?
Speaker 9 (01:33:45):
Yeah, you're throwing out that good that good energy for
Hunter Brown hopefully.
Speaker 5 (01:33:52):
Yeah, there we go.
Speaker 1 (01:33:55):
Weekend, it was good.
Speaker 11 (01:33:56):
How about yours? I it was good all the way around.
Good rest.
Speaker 5 (01:34:02):
I watched the Colorado walkie's game.
Speaker 7 (01:34:07):
Oh okay, well, I mean has been so good for them?
Speaker 1 (01:34:14):
No it's not.
Speaker 9 (01:34:15):
Yeah, well that's their problem. That's that's their problem, Brandon,
appreciate it. Man, We'll catch up with you soon. Okay,
all right, all right, sorry, Hey, hey, Dan, think about it.
Speaker 5 (01:34:28):
That's Colorado.
Speaker 10 (01:34:29):
You mentioned Colorado, and I don't know how many times
he's actually played there, but Judge, I think it was
over the weekend or last week hit his first home run.
Of a guy who hits home runs, you could hit
a pop fly and at Lands four hundred and eighty
feet of all the places he hadn't homeward, well, the
Aaron Judge in Colorado, you finally got one. I was
just thinking, man, of all the places you'd think that
(01:34:49):
he he bunted one over the fence there, but got
a home run and it was a.
Speaker 5 (01:34:53):
Short one too, barely what oversaw?
Speaker 10 (01:34:54):
I'm just thinking about what Brad had said about do
you watch Colorado?
Speaker 5 (01:34:58):
And I watched the Yankees, like man, Aaron Judge Howard
in Colorado.
Speaker 10 (01:35:02):
I mean, we're going to throw a party yet, of
all the places, you'd think, even though he's in the
American League and probably hasn't been there much, him homering
there just tells you just about anybody can homer in Colorado.
Speaker 5 (01:35:15):
Well, carry for you.
Speaker 9 (01:35:16):
There you go, and things are so bad there in Colorado.
Sean that you've got Rocky fans who are assuing the
team after getting hit by a foul ball, and their
defense is, well, this team is so bad.
Speaker 11 (01:35:27):
That's why I wasn't paying attention.
Speaker 5 (01:35:31):
The fair fair defense, but probably won't hold up in court.
Probably won't hold up in court.
Speaker 9 (01:35:38):
I was going to say, I think the Rockies legal
department's going to hold up the back of a paper
ticket and say, hey, see what that says right there.
It says that you assume all the risk when you
come into a ballpark.
Speaker 5 (01:35:48):
So Brandon's versatile.
Speaker 10 (01:35:50):
I mean, he watched Colorado Rockies play cut on him
out of nowhere. Just I mean, that's two and a
half hours you'll never get back.
Speaker 5 (01:36:00):
But hey, I like it. Good ballpark though it is ballpark.
Speaker 9 (01:36:03):
It is that's that fan base and that they all
deserve a Ton up better than what they've been getting.
But hey, we've got good baseball here in this town,
and we've got a team that is in contention that
we will continue to talk about here during the show.
But as I've mentioned all throughout the show, the Texans
back on the practice field tomorrow. We've already seen some
guys get paid. Who could be next. We'll discuss that here.
(01:36:26):
It is a Sean Salisbury show, Sports Talk seven ninety.

Going non stop with former QB Sean.
Speaker 9 (01:39:02):
Salisbury and wrap up OTAs in mini camps here over
the next couple of weeks before about a month from
now we get them back in for the start of
a training camp. Sean, I can tell you I was
not named after Steely Dan I was. I actually asked
my mom that once, I go, hey, you know, not
(01:39:23):
for nothing? You know what was what was the namesake?
And she did say that she did. She's a huge
Elton John fan. That Daniel that song that that was
an emphasis, but it was not the reason.
Speaker 5 (01:39:37):
So but that was the main. If we're going to
point to any song or character, that was.
Speaker 7 (01:39:42):
It, that was it.
Speaker 11 (01:39:43):
That was the one.
Speaker 9 (01:39:43):
Although she did tell me because my brother's name is Ryan,
she did say that her and my dad did toy
with the notion of naming me Nolan, which I did say, Well,
it probably would have worked out if he was.
Speaker 7 (01:39:53):
Named Nolan and then I was named Ryan because he's older.
Speaker 10 (01:39:56):
Yeah, that makes sense. But we got a we got
a Dan. I mean, you could be England Dan and
john Ford Coley. Sure, you could be Dan. You could
be as you said, Steely Dan. You could be Dan
from what's the one that was a Gump?
Speaker 5 (01:40:13):
Yeah?
Speaker 10 (01:40:13):
Dan was in Gump, right, I think so it wasn't
it wasn't a Lieutenant Dan part of Forrest Gump.
Speaker 5 (01:40:18):
Oh, yeah, isn't that. Isn't that our guy?
Speaker 1 (01:40:22):
Uh?
Speaker 5 (01:40:25):
What's our guy's name from CSI in New York? Yeah? Gary, Great?
Speaker 10 (01:40:30):
Yes, you great, great military supporter would be lieutenant You
could be Lieutenant Dan. A lot of Dan's there's a
lot of dance.
Speaker 9 (01:40:37):
I thought, yeah, yeah, I thought I'd try my sea
legs out. But Lieutenant Dan, there you go.
Speaker 10 (01:40:43):
You ain't got no legs that you knew a quote
from the movie There You Go.
Speaker 11 (01:40:53):
Hey, where's the boat crashing into the dock?
Speaker 5 (01:40:57):
Classic? Good movie too, By the way, I'm a big
Gary Snise fans for sure, I get it. Yeah.
Speaker 10 (01:41:02):
You never know what name spurns a family, didn't you know?
You know, like if you were, if you're you know,
you could name your kid North, right. Isn't that the
Kardashian's North there is?
Speaker 11 (01:41:15):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (01:41:16):
Apple is an Apple Paltrow.
Speaker 7 (01:41:18):
That's it.
Speaker 5 (01:41:19):
You never know what leads for her name? My name,
mom and dad? Why? Why why did you name me that?
I don't know? Yeah, just like apples, Apple.
Speaker 9 (01:41:27):
Apple Paltrow must be probably approaching college years now.
Speaker 11 (01:41:30):
I would think.
Speaker 10 (01:41:31):
College Apple Paltrow's uh uh, you know, probably. I would
imagine she's a high age teenager now right, it's gotta
be correct.
Speaker 5 (01:41:42):
Yeah, that was her husband, Chris Martin. Is it Chris Martin?
Speaker 7 (01:41:45):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (01:41:46):
Yeah, yeah, singer Yeah? And Apple yes. Apple.
Speaker 9 (01:41:50):
As a matter of fact, a couple of weeks ago,
you just turned twenty one, and she's currently at Vanderbilt.
Speaker 10 (01:41:57):
Nice, watching the number one seed in the baseball team.
Some Apple Altrow.
Speaker 1 (01:42:03):
Ye?
Speaker 5 (01:42:04):
Nice?
Speaker 9 (01:42:04):
And she looks pretty much like a direct cross between
Chris Martin and Gwyneth. I would say probably if you're
gonna want to get more of the looks, you would
want the Gwyneth's side.
Speaker 5 (01:42:15):
Not necessarily, she's pretty ugly. It's what you're said, kiddy.
I did not say that. I didn't say that, but.
Speaker 10 (01:42:22):
You hinted that stay away from the Martin looks and
make sure you get the Paltrow looks.
Speaker 9 (01:42:27):
I mean it's kind of like you well, I mean,
you know Demy Moore and and Bruce Willis's kids. I
mean some of them look more like Bruce. And not
saying Bruce isn't a good looking guy, but I'm just
saying that Demmy is.
Speaker 10 (01:42:39):
She's yeah, And it's sad that what Bruce Willis is
going through to a bummer man, because I actually love.
Speaker 5 (01:42:47):
The way he is in his shows and movies and stuff,
and I hope he's okay. Dan, can I keep real quick? Say? Uh?
Speaker 10 (01:42:55):
Like I was supposed to go on today, but the
link was a problem on Fox. I just want to
first well, thank Nate Griffin for the invite this morning,
but also to Jose Grignon's family. Yes, uh long seventy
two years old passed away.
Speaker 5 (01:43:08):
Legend.
Speaker 10 (01:43:09):
You know, I used to always have fun in the
way Jose Grignon and we used to have good laughs
out of it. And Nate shared a story with me
before the show about on the last days of it
and joking and getting still getting the good laughs out
of Jose.
Speaker 5 (01:43:22):
It's seventy two too young.
Speaker 10 (01:43:24):
And I know when I moved here Dan in twenty thirteen,
I'd see him on TV every day and I felt
like I knew him from a distance. And I think
that's class poise, just he's with such an easy view
and listen so to the Fox family, to Nate and
(01:43:45):
his family, because I, if I'm not mistaken, I think
Jose's married to Nate's sister, if I'm not mistaken, so
very close and to the whole Fox family, you know,
Sally and the the whole group. I'm sure they have
to be going through some tough times because what a
class man.
Speaker 5 (01:44:06):
And he'll be missed. So to Jose Grena and I
had no idea that the best I had right, I
didn't know anything was health, was was there was something wrong?
Speaker 7 (01:44:16):
Well.
Speaker 9 (01:44:16):
I had no idea that he had helped break the
Branch Davidian siege story, nor.
Speaker 5 (01:44:23):
Did I so, I just was a huge fan of him.
Speaker 10 (01:44:27):
And you know, to me, I think when you're a
news anchor, you want people to feel like when you
let it like that news anchor feels like it's part
of your life. Right And in the time I've been here,
what a poised class.
Speaker 5 (01:44:43):
Human being.
Speaker 10 (01:44:44):
And sorry to hear this news and when I got
it from Nate, it's gut wrenching.
Speaker 5 (01:44:49):
So to the Fox family and the Nate and to
the gren Young family.
Speaker 10 (01:44:53):
They share impact that I think thirty years thirty plus
years here in Houston, and you guys all got.
Speaker 5 (01:44:58):
To enjoy him for a long time.
Speaker 10 (01:45:00):
The time I have watched him honored and you know,
from Mike Kiskobitz, the whole group over there at Fox,
you guys, God bless you man.
Speaker 5 (01:45:08):
Jose Grignon was a good man, good man.
Speaker 9 (01:45:10):
For sure, a legend in our market, no doubt about it.
Like I said, we'll get into some Texans conversation as
they're going to start OTAs tomorrow, but Paydays who could
be next? We have an idea we'll talk about it here.
It is the Sean Salisbury Show, Sports Talk seven to ninety.
Speaker 5 (01:45:25):
Yeah, and who doesn't like pay days.
Speaker 10 (01:45:27):
Well, if you want to pay off some good victuals
and go and have some great atmosphere, Jbar and Barbecue
is one of those places to do it, one of
those places just a few minutes away from dyk In
Park and Toyota Center, right there in east downtown. It
was named Texas Monthly's top twenty five best new barbico
barbecue joints in Texas, and I got news for you.
Speaker 5 (01:45:48):
It's a lot better than that.
Speaker 10 (01:45:51):
Okay, top twenty five is fine, but we may be
cheating it out about twenty plus spots.
Speaker 5 (01:45:56):
John Toomey, the owner.
Speaker 10 (01:45:57):
He's a University of Houston class of nineteen fifty and
University of Houston law. The reason I say that in
his nineties is still there all the time.
Speaker 5 (01:46:07):
The owner.
Speaker 10 (01:46:08):
Now that's what I'm calling talking about when I talk
about great location.
Speaker 5 (01:46:12):
As we mentioned, a place.
Speaker 10 (01:46:13):
You don't need an event to be going on around
it to go get great barbecue and great customer service.
It's a huge, covered outdoor patio with brand new one
hundred and seventy nine inch led screen television with all
the big games, live music on weekends, lots of parking.
Underrated part of Jbar m Barbecue and a great place
(01:46:34):
for events.
Speaker 5 (01:46:35):
You can seat over almost four.
Speaker 10 (01:46:37):
Hundred people, between three hundred and fifteen and four hundred
people so indoor outdoor.
Speaker 5 (01:46:40):
The food is off the charts.
Speaker 10 (01:46:42):
Like I said, top twenty five best new barbecue joints
in Texas. Let's not cheat it out of about twenty
four spots. And make sure you say hi to the
GM Hoffey who is about six six' eight former rugby
player From South. Africa but its nice and good a.

Speaker 7 (01:47:28):
Vu The Sean Salisbury show continued.
Speaker 9 (01:47:33):
Mentioned it numerous, times and me and you have talked
about it that not this off. Season but the next
off season is when things start getting real for The
texans when it comes to paying, guys because, well you're
more than likely going to have to pay your quarterback
next off. Season whether or not they Get Will Anderson
junior done next year will also be another. Question but
last year we Saw nicocollins get his strong deal with The,
(01:47:57):
texans and we also saw this offseason And Derek Stingley,
Junior Jalen, petrie And Daniel hunter all get their. Paydays
but if anybody else is up for a paid, Ay
jonathan M alexander Of The chronicle covers the team going
through a set number of players who could be up
for a contract extension or decisions being made on said,
(01:48:20):
players and the first and foremost that he has is
a guy that will be a free agent after this,
season and that Is Joe.
Speaker 10 (01:48:28):
Mixon, Yeah dan for for, ME i, LISTEN i don't
know What mix is going to, command but you saw
the running back market shift again last year this.
Speaker 5 (01:48:42):
Offseason look at the.
Speaker 10 (01:48:44):
PRODUCTION i want you to tell me some of the
just just role why this will Help mix And mixon's
in the prime of his, career this will obviously have
A i don't know what they did, it say Dan,
on there the money that the range of the money
that they're, THINKING i don't know.
Speaker 5 (01:49:03):
Where it's going to fall. In but the running back,
position which.
Speaker 10 (01:49:06):
Has been devalued over the years when it comes to contract,
Negotiations i'm not sure we're doing that. Anymore now you're
not going to pay a running back BECAUSE i don't
want to say they're all, replaceable but finding a good one's.
Tough and when you got, him but we all of
a sudden because of success from guys who weren't first
round picks or weren't you, know even listen if you're
(01:49:27):
The giants and you can part With Saquon barkley and
then you saw what he did In, philadelphia him big
Time Super bowl, Champs, Baltimore, Ravens Derrick, Henry look what
he did doubgrade Dem look What James cook did In.
Buffalo look What Joe mixon has done for this. Squad
look what the lack Of christian McCaffrey did To San.
(01:49:47):
Francisco so you go, ahead look at the production In.
Detroit you could slice it any way you, want AND
i know there's more important positions that we look at and, say,
well you don't need this guy if you got this, guy,
boy the running backs just the running back's a.
Speaker 5 (01:50:04):
CONVENIENCE i don't look at it like.
Speaker 10 (01:50:06):
That AND i can tell you, THIS i don't know
a Quarterback i've ever played, with or a quarterback THAT
i talked to currently or past that goes into it, thinking,
yeah running back's just you.
Speaker 5 (01:50:16):
Know what we can do with or without. HIM i
don't believe.
Speaker 10 (01:50:19):
That AND i think that watching last year With barkley
and the guys THAT i just mentioned did for their
teams to elevate them the production at that position and
paying these guys they deserve more. Money now the shelf
life's not. Long it may be bigger money for a shorter.
Term but you saw once The giant's loss and was, like,
man how in the world do we fix this Now
(01:50:40):
barkley and look what it did For. Philly so the
depth of, It so if to, me depending on what
the price tag, is The Joe mixons just don't fall
off a turn up truck and laugh land in your.
Lap this guy's been a, leader this guy's. Productive we
just need it more in the past game AND i
hope they implement it.
Speaker 5 (01:50:56):
More BUT i think.
Speaker 10 (01:50:58):
The resurgence of the paying the top back is gonna
it's gonna rear its head because even LIKE i Mentioned,
Detroit Jamiir gibbs And, montgomery what they've done there, Fantastic
so around the league that position has become, real real important,
again even though it should have never with current. Players
(01:51:20):
but the, overall, ah we can do without a star running, Back,
no it appears you got to have a durable one
that can place that. Threat and to, ME i know
THAT i understand what this is seen in the, past
and With Arian, foster this is the best back they've
had Since Arian. Foster and When Joe mixon is going,
good he's that type of player and he will make
(01:51:42):
it better for an offensive line and FOR.
Speaker 5 (01:51:44):
Cj.
Speaker 10 (01:51:44):
Stroud If i'm paying him, Today i'm paying. Him but
you got to figure out what the long term and
how much they're gonna ask.
Speaker 9 (01:51:50):
For, well a few things here you mentioned About Saquon
barkley And Derek, henry both of them signing contract extensions this.
Offseason barkley now his average annual salary gonna be just
north of twenty million per and For henry it's Fifteen
and for The, texans, THOUGH i mean the importance that
you just mentioned is you saw what this offense was
(01:52:10):
last year When Joe mixon ran the.
Speaker 11 (01:52:12):
Football this team won. Games when he couldn't run the.
Speaker 9 (01:52:14):
Football, well then the onus was on that offensive line
and ON. Cj stroud And. SEAN i don't Think i'm
spoiling too many movies. Here the ending was not very, good.
Speaker 10 (01:52:24):
No, doubt but think about this. Too if they can
elevate the offensive, line it gets. Better and if play,
actually If Joe mixon's better in the past. Game you
remember when we're talking About i'm not saying he's the
equivalent To Jordan alvarez at, all but WHEN i told
you that guys like that threaten games even when they
don't touch. It if you're Playing baltimore now or if
(01:52:45):
you're Playing philadelphia now And, Barkley barkley couldn't squeeze that
money out Of New, york they let him, go trade
him and, boom here he.
Speaker 5 (01:52:52):
Is he's a free.
Speaker 10 (01:52:53):
AGENT i, mean he gets paid an extension and a
big reason why without, him as good As philadelphia is.
Hurts while a good, players he's boarded on being a great.
Player Having barkley back there because of the. Threat any
good quarterback will tell you that the second just the
play action. Alone if you're Playing baltimore and you've Got Lamar,
jackson or you've Got Jalen hurts With barkley And henry With,
(01:53:16):
baltimore you can't do. Anything as a. Linebacker you have
got to respect pass. First you have, to so you're
late getting into those throwing lanes that are intermediate and
the rest of. It and what Did stroud do so
well as a, rookie even though you, know Getting Joe,
mixon you, know mix and not being a part of
it his rookie, Year but what Did stroud do so?
(01:53:37):
Well they had at least the thread of it and
that intermediate he was as good as we had in
the league throwing that. Ball got to get back to.
It mixon's got to rear his head in the pass.
Game they've got to get him more. Involved but the
threat of a good Runner, Barkley cook With Josh, Allen, Derrick,
henry this guy, McCaffrey it makes it so much easier
on a quarterback because that the. Underneath as a linebacking
(01:54:00):
court and a run support safety have got to respect
run first because if you don't and you want to
play two high safeties or you're going to stay keep
your safeties, back we'll run it forty times and we'll
run for two hundred and fifty yards on.
Speaker 5 (01:54:13):
You that's the.
Speaker 10 (01:54:14):
Threat and if you don't and you just respect, run,
NOW i can whistle that intermediate stuff in over the.
Speaker 5 (01:54:19):
Top it is so.
Speaker 10 (01:54:20):
Important and you saw the success Of Joe mixon kind
of led to the success of The texans and that
will be no different this. YEAR a Healthy Joe mixon
makes this, team in my, opinion faring away the favorite
in the.
Speaker 9 (01:54:32):
Division and by the, Way mixing still on the books
for a couple of more. Years he will be through
the twenty six to twenty seven, season so still, yeah
he'd tied up for two, more, right, right, yeah tied
up for two. More so it's not a walk here this.
Year it's a walk here next. Year so BUT i
MEAN i mentioned it too, Though. SEAN i, mean you're
going to get to the point here and we can
probably carry this over where you're going to be getting
(01:54:54):
in the difficult discussion territory when it comes to certain.
Players AND i mentioned this last week even though you
re Upped Nico collins last. YEAR i, mean you just
drafted two guys and one guy who's supposed to be
a compliment to him And Jayden. HIGGINS i, mean is
that kind of already setting the tone for you to
say once it gets to, hey we can't keep you
(01:55:16):
around here, anymore we're trading, you or we're just gonna
cut you loose and let you go somewhere.
Speaker 7 (01:55:19):
Else Nico collins might be one of those.
Speaker 5 (01:55:21):
Guys, yeah WELL i got news for, you.
Speaker 10 (01:55:24):
Buddy if the if the compliment receivers will compliment, Properly
Nico collins is, GONNA i, mean when his next, deal
if his assent, continues that, GUY i can't let him,
go but he's.
Speaker 5 (01:55:39):
Going to command a lot of.
Speaker 10 (01:55:40):
Money and if it, continues the assent, continues you have
a go, to, big physical. Guy you got to keep
core of your, team so sometimes you may have to.
Overpay but look at the impact speaking and running, back
look at the impact At chase And jefferson and to this.
Team Nico collins is that. GUY i would expect. HIM
i don't even think you've even scratched the surface which
(01:56:02):
where his game's.
Speaker 5 (01:56:02):
GOING i don't Tank.
Speaker 10 (01:56:04):
Dell hasn't been fully healthy Since nico's, ELEVATED i mean fully,
healthy and he's going to be out So Christian kirk
and then adding a couple of young, receivers there's still
another net level In Nico collins. Games so if you
think that extensions, big now we'll. Wadeill this one's up
and he's playing the prime of his, career pushing. Thirty
when that time, comes you're gonna have a guy that's
(01:56:25):
gonna be in position to get himself a lot of.
MONEY i like the core of my players sitting in
the team. Staying all you're doing is compliment and make no,
mistake the number one receiver on this team was and
will continue to be the big fell out Of michigan for.
Speaker 9 (01:56:37):
Sure sexan's trying to stack as many good players on
this roster as, possible and some of those decisions to
come down the. Road let's get into the college side of,
football because one prominent voice letting everybody else, Know, Yeah
i'm in.
Speaker 11 (01:56:52):
Charge we'll talk about it right.
Speaker 9 (01:56:53):

(01:58:43):
Com That's countryboysroofing Dot.
Speaker 9 (01:58:46):
Com John Salisbury show continues to. Continue did you get
a load Of Greg sank feeling himself? Yesterday as THE
Sec spring meetings are underway over there In, Destin florida
taking shots at The big, twelve THE acc even going
(01:59:07):
as far as to wonder, aloud why are we still
in the N c DOUBLE. A, OH i thought you
might have had a video or an.
Speaker 5 (01:59:17):
AUDIO i.
Speaker 10 (01:59:18):
DID i, MEAN i saw his, comments BUT i didn't
pay much. ATTENTION i was barbecuing and shoring my game.
Speaker 5 (01:59:25):
Up SO i get.
Speaker 10 (01:59:26):
It but he's sitting a top of obviously a power.
Conference but he's right about one. Thing, well the N
c TWO a to me is so. Nondescriptive we got
to move. On the governing body.
Speaker 5 (01:59:36):
SUCKS i have to move. On but it doesn't shock.
Speaker 10 (01:59:39):
Me they he's one of the more powerful voices we,
have so feeling himself one, thing AND.
Speaker 5 (01:59:48):
I get, it but there are a lot of things
that need.
Speaker 10 (01:59:51):
Fixed and while THE sec understand with these new with
the the way the seating goes and the rest of,
it there's gonna be a lot of discussion over who
runs the ENTIRE nc. TOO i think we have a
pretty good idea of at least which conferences do at
least or at the top of it when it comes
to the pecking, Order, yes for.
Speaker 9 (02:00:08):
Sure and of course last week it was announced straight
seating for the college Football playoff coming, up and adding
that they are not committed to any particular formats and
also adding from The big twelve in acc both releasing
a joint statement about being in lockstep about, This sankie,
(02:00:29):
RESPONDING i don't need lectures from others about the good
of the game or coordinating press releases about the good
of the. Game you can issue your press, statement But
i'm actually looking for ideas to move us.
Speaker 10 (02:00:40):
Forward, YEAH i have a. Question do you have a
problem with it being straight? Seating AND, i for, ME i.
DON'T i wouldn't give the twelve thanks forget. THAT i
don't need to buy, One play, twelve, two play eleven,
three play ten and at the end of, it the round.
(02:01:00):
One let's, uh let's let's you, know reseed and you,
know depending on if there was an upset in the first.
Game i'll tell you what's going to be hard to, Do.
Dan first of, all they're going to continue. That what
we're going to what in twenty twenty six sixteen?
Speaker 5 (02:01:15):
Teams AM i? Correct is that the? Date that's my
thought about.
Speaker 10 (02:01:18):
That it's, inevitable, Right i'm just going to tell you
how tough it is in football for the twelfth seed
if they did it like, That like we were just
talking about twelve seeds right, now how many games you
got to win to be the national. Champion let's, see
it's first round will be twelve, teams will be down to, six,
right is?
Speaker 5 (02:01:37):
That how is that how that? Works?
Speaker 9 (02:01:39):
WELL i mean the first round you'd have the first four,
buys so right then it would be down to let's
see if it's four, games.
Speaker 10 (02:01:47):
Eight, four and then the four then you have eight
teams left and then you they'll. Play so now you're
down to four. Teams then you're down to two. Teams,
see you'd have to win four games to win the national?
Speaker 5 (02:02:00):
Title is that? Correct good?
Speaker 7 (02:02:02):
Luck is?
Speaker 5 (02:02:03):
That is that? Correct as the twelfth?
Speaker 7 (02:02:04):
Seed, yeah you're playing AN nfl schedule at that, point.
Speaker 10 (02:02:08):
Right it's the twelfth. Seed it's hard because of the.
Depth when people, say, oh can you get an upset
in the first? Round twelve beat?
Speaker 1 (02:02:14):
One?
Speaker 10 (02:02:15):
Absolutely because that the mean look at last, year whoever
the twelve seed. WAS i mean there's some good teams
and like teams Like Ole miss were left, out, RIGHT i,
mean and then a team like Ole miss going you
can win one of those. Games but the question is
can you sustain four in a row with the depth
with nil with transfer? Portal can you sustain?
Speaker 5 (02:02:37):
It and.
Speaker 10 (02:02:37):
Upset, basically there is twelve seed go on and win
four games in a. Row that's hard to, do, Right
so why are we adding more? TEAMS i, know why.
Speaker 5 (02:02:46):
Do we need? MORE i, mean do we need?
Speaker 9 (02:02:50):
More, WELL i mean it's it becomes a question and
we can probably talk about this a little bit With
gordy obviously with his college football. Chops BUT i mean
it becomes a point where the regular season don't. Matter
you're going to start seeing load management in regular season.
Games who cares we? Lose this game doesn't?
Speaker 5 (02:03:05):
Matter all?
Speaker 11 (02:03:06):
Right so we miss out on a first round by
so we're in.
Speaker 10 (02:03:11):
Hell let me ask you, this do you have a
problem if nobody gets.
Speaker 9 (02:03:14):
BUYS i do think that there does need to be
some sort of. Reward, YES i think if you if
you go through and you win THE sec and you're
one or two losses and you won that, league you
should be rewarded for.
Speaker 3 (02:03:27):
That.
Speaker 10 (02:03:27):
Yes, Okay, well then let me ask you. This i'm
just going regardless of the. Rule if you were put
let's say we're the ones implementing what's going on with
the playoffs and real, quick, well well we could come
back and hit with. You let's just my curiosity is
is it if you're the number THREE sec, team should
you give The Power conferences? Automatically should they get a?
(02:03:49):
Buye in your, mind that's.
Speaker 7 (02:03:52):
That's something that definitely we Can i'm talking about.
Speaker 5 (02:03:55):
The Power conference.
Speaker 10 (02:03:56):
Champion should they automatically get a Buy what if the
same team in THE sec is better than like last?
Year Should Arizona state gotta Buy Boise state under the?
Speaker 3 (02:04:05):
Rule?
Speaker 5 (02:04:06):
Yeah but should they?
Speaker 1 (02:04:07):
Were?
Speaker 5 (02:04:07):
They?
Speaker 13 (02:04:08):
Were?
Speaker 5 (02:04:08):
They?
Speaker 1 (02:04:08):
Did?
Speaker 5 (02:04:08):
They? Did they deserve a bye in the first?
Speaker 9 (02:04:10):
Round Arizona? State, Yes Boise. State we found out what
the answer to that.
Speaker 5 (02:04:15):
Was, okay so it's worth a conversation then. Correct for?
Speaker 9 (02:04:18):
Sure, absolutely you, go and it's one that we can
have With Chris gordy coming up here as we get
into the final hour of the, show the fourth hour
of the. Program here it is The Shawn Salisbury, show.
Speaker 5 (02:04:31):
Hoston, houston My heart radio station.
Speaker 4 (02:04:37):
And The Rocket Sports talk seven ninety your home for
your home teams.
Speaker 7 (02:04:43):
From The Parsons Imagine Next.
Speaker 2 (02:04:45):
Studios, okay let's do This Sewan.
Speaker 3 (02:04:56):
Salisbury so you you See true's longtime Friend Sewn, Salisbury.
Speaker 4 (02:05:02):
Dan, MATTHEWS U, jesus this is The Sean sells very, show.
Speaker 9 (02:05:11):
The Gordon Tron Chris gordy hopping in the studio with
us And, gordy it would be inappropriate to start with
anything other than the conversation that me And sean were just,
having BECAUSE i, mean, you being the host of The
LOCKDOWN sec, podcast you are deep into the conference And
Greg sankey yesterday throwing out some shots and making sure
(02:05:32):
that the bully pulpit there in In destin was loud
enough for everybody to be able to.
Speaker 18 (02:05:36):
Hear, yeah and good morning, Everybody good, Morning. Sean good
to be. Morning back on with you on A. Monday
The tuesday feels like A, monday always like these kind of.
Speaker 7 (02:05:45):
Weeks but, yeah it's everybody who's getting up at arms on.
Speaker 18 (02:05:48):
It but it's to, Me, greg thank you's looking out
for the best interest in THE.
Speaker 13 (02:05:53):
Sec this is like the same thing When Roger goodell
says something and it's, like why are you so?
Speaker 5 (02:05:58):
Many.
Speaker 18 (02:05:58):
Cadell he's literally doing what the owners are telling him to,
do the same, Thing Greg.
Speaker 13 (02:06:02):
Sankie he's doing what his school presidents and ads have
told him that they.
Speaker 18 (02:06:06):
Want and this was the whole, thing, guys going back
to conference, expansion when THE sec added two monster brands
In texas And, oklahoma and The Big ten added monster
brands in usc, At oregon AND. Ucla the two biggest
conferences have the biggest, brands so they're looking out for
their best. Interests nothing against SORRY smu And Boise state
(02:06:30):
And Arizona, state but like we didn't enjoy all at
Least boise AND, smu we didn't enjoy watching you get
your ass beating the. Playoff THE sec and The Big
ten are looking out for their best interests and their best,
teams and they have the biggest, brands and they want
to make sure that they're going to get the most
teams into the college football. Playoffs SO i just everybody
gets mad At Greg sankie over, this And i'm, like,
(02:06:53):
guys it is not a level playing, Field, like it just.
Isn't not all conferences are created, equal not all skeleduls
are created. Equal, Well bama has a way tougher road
To hoe Than indiana. Does they just do so, again
it's the conference commissioner looking out for the best interests
of his.
Speaker 13 (02:07:10):
Conference go, figure you.
Speaker 5 (02:07:12):
Know, yeah, yeah you know What gordia's baffling to.
Speaker 10 (02:07:15):
ME i, mean shouldn't HE i, mean it would be
the job title if you're the running the conference is
to look after your. Conference you're not worried about The big.
Ten that's their. Gig you got to worry about your.
Conference SO i don't know why we're mad at that
it's number one and you know his arrogance or what have, You.
Speaker 5 (02:07:32):
But you are exactly.
Speaker 10 (02:07:33):
Right there's a pecnority everywhere in, society in sports and business,
everywhere and The big ten in THE, sec their conferences are, better, period,
deeper better, teams better. BRAND i hate to, say there's
some good, teams but the depth of. It SO i
don't have a problem with, that all, Right so let
me make you the N c TWO a or the
guys who are making the, decision And i'm not sure
(02:07:55):
who that is these. Days give me in a twelve team,
playoff how you want.
Speaker 5 (02:07:59):
It what's the best way to do?
Speaker 7 (02:08:01):
This, well forget how they did.
Speaker 5 (02:08:03):
It you tell me the best.
Speaker 18 (02:08:04):
Way, well the writing is on the wall already that
we're gonna be going to either fourteen or, sixteen AND
i think it's gonna be a sixteen BECAUSE i, mean
you already have guys Like Matt rule going out.
Speaker 7 (02:08:12):
There, ah the more of the.
Speaker 18 (02:08:13):
Marrier, well of Course Matt rule's gonna say that when
he goes six and six In, nebraska he wants to
find a way to still get into the. Playoffs but
you know it's gonna be. SIXTEEN i think the four
automatic bids for THE, sec four automatic bids for The big,
ten and then two for The big, twelve two for THE,
acc one for the best group of, five and then
the rest are you, know at large. Bids i'm fine with.
(02:08:36):
That people are up in arms of, that, going, oh,
well you can't take such a big piece of the.
Pie look to be, honest most years THE sec and
The big ten are gonna wind up with four teams
ranked in the top twenty anyway or the top. Sixteen
SO i think we're making much ado about nothing getting
up in arms over, that because to, me those teams
are gonna be, ranked you, know where they should be.
(02:08:58):
Anyway like if you're gonna expand it to, say, yeah
there's gonna be FOUR sec teams worthy of being in
that playoff, field and the same thing with The big.
Speaker 13 (02:09:05):
Ten SO i don't have a problem with.
Speaker 10 (02:09:07):
That, Hey, gordy do you have any problem with you,
know with seating With pano people who may not. Understand
but let's say you're the second best team in THE,
sec which makes you the third best or fourth best
team in the. Country, okay let's say they don't get
any less than. Four should they get a first round
by even if you're not a conference?
Speaker 5 (02:09:24):
Champion?
Speaker 18 (02:09:25):
Yeah because because look At texas this past year with
the new change in what it should have. Been and
here's WHERE i got really up at Arms. Sean the
whole thing that The College Football Playoff committee starts doing is. Rankings,
right here's our one through twenty five on the last
day after the conference championships are.
Speaker 13 (02:09:43):
Played they ranked one through twenty.
Speaker 18 (02:09:44):
Five and yet last, year the teams that are ranked, one,
two three four were not the, one, two three four
in the playoff because we had to move conference champions
to the front of the, line which is the dumbest
Thing i've ever heard. Of your ranking is your. Ranking
if you want a crappy, conference you don't deserve to
move to the front of the. Line So texas should
have Been texas, finished what were they third or fourth
in the final, Rankings they should have had a first round. By,
(02:10:06):
instead they were Hosting clemson on their campus At austin
in the first, round and it's just. Idiotic the team
that finishes second in The Big, ten the team that
finishes second in THE sec may still be one of
the top four teams in the country and they should
get a first round by absolutely.
Speaker 10 (02:10:20):
Well all the truth is, real, Quick, DAN i was
going to, say is that the truth of the matter
is they usually are one of the top four teams
in the. Country that's just the fact with the schedule they.
Played So i've never had a problem with. It give
me the four, best give them the, buys and give
me the ranked the twelve or the sixteen best we.
NEED i don't have an issue with it because the
second best team in THE sec a lot of times
(02:10:42):
is better than maybe two other better than the ACC's first.
Speaker 18 (02:10:45):
Team, well and here's What i'd, say sean to like
some of the group of five, Teams Boise, state if
they they, schedule if you knew this team was, loaded.
Speaker 13 (02:10:53):
You had An ashton gent and all.
Speaker 18 (02:10:55):
This if you went out and scheduled a tough non
Conference week one, Opener say you Play Ohio state on
a neutral. Field you used to Play oregon on a neutral,
field and you win, that and then you win THE.
Mac guess what you're gonna be ranked in the top.
Four you'll probably be, fourth but like you'll be in
the top four if you convince the country that you
ran the table in a crappy conference and you had
(02:11:16):
a marque non, conference went over a big you know.
Speaker 10 (02:11:19):
Lea year schedule called for, it no doubt about, it
and go. Ahead so, no you're.
Speaker 9 (02:11:22):
GOOD i, mean it's one of those things THAT i
Think seawn have mentioned to you And gordia have mentioned
this to you.
Speaker 11 (02:11:27):
BEFORE i learned a long time.
Speaker 9 (02:11:28):
Ago this is A tv show and this is what
THE cfp looks at and, Says, hey THE ncaa tournament,
structure it's. Nice AND i know that, people, oh a
sixty four team, thing it would be. Awesome you wouldn't
have a football season if that were the. Case that's
besides the. Point BUT i think that this, also guys
kind of boils down to THE ncaa wants to avoid
A houston Like final four at all, costs Where gordy
(02:11:51):
mean you were talking about during the break while you outwardly,
say oh, man this is great That Miami San Diego
STATE fau and you or here for the final four
behind closed. Doors you're saying this sucks because that is
not a final four that anybody gets up.
Speaker 7 (02:12:07):
For you Want.
Speaker 9 (02:12:09):
Alabama in, it you Want Ohio state in, it you
Want Notre dame in.
Speaker 11 (02:12:12):
It you want the big the big time schools in.
Speaker 9 (02:12:15):
It because that's, hotels that's eyes on your, product that's
money that continues to roll in for.
Speaker 13 (02:12:20):
You, yeah IT'S i, mean it's. Right it's just it's so, hard.
Speaker 18 (02:12:23):
Guys football is the one it's the one college sport
where it is hard to be a champion because the
field is just so. Limited, again they're trying to expand
this playoff and make it a little bit, bigger BUT i,
mean for years in THE, bcs it was you had
to finish, undefeated you had to finish at the. Top
and even sometimes if you want, undefeated Like oliver OR o,
(02:12:44):
four you don't even get to the play for a.
Championship yet in, basketball women's, basketball men's, basketball, baseball, softball
they're all you could come from the. Bottom you could
be the last team in and still make a run
and win the. Title so it's it's it's the hardest
sport to govern and try to manage and create a.
Champion but, again to, ME i don't know how you
(02:13:06):
deal with the. Inequities i'm. Sorry the team THAT usc
schedule last year was just way tougher than What indiana.
Played it just was SO i don't know how you
balance that.
Speaker 10 (02:13:15):
Out and you know, what we will love that the small,
guy you Know i'm talking about like The Boise. State,
yes we love the underdog story until they go in
and get their Ass kim. Right then we don't like
the underdog, story and we, do we love, it and
then we go, in oh, man this is a great.
Story look at the season they. Bully Arizona state had
good Season Boise, state So, Theys god bless. Them BUT
(02:13:36):
i can tell you, this in two of those cases
they should have been on the.
Speaker 5 (02:13:39):
Road and we damn well know.
Speaker 10 (02:13:42):
That that being the case of, well what a great, Story,
SCOTT i mean the stories and the, sidebars and then
when you get right down to, it you're, Like Arizona
state showed. Up don't misunderstand. Me but as far As buys,
go you're, like come, on, man we gotta do better than.
This so we love it until we see it and
if it's an ass, whoop and we want to know
why it.
Speaker 5 (02:14:00):
Happens so, YEAH i have have.
Speaker 10 (02:14:03):
Zero prop with the second best Or big ten OR
sec team being getting a buy because they were just
better than a team that played a bad schedule in
a somewhat somewhat.
Speaker 5 (02:14:15):
Average a blow average, conference no, Doubt.
Speaker 9 (02:14:17):
Sean usually not a good idea to put the boss
on the spot here and ask if we can do
Some astros here if you've got a few more, Minutes So,
boss you got a?
Speaker 13 (02:14:24):
Few all?
Speaker 9 (02:14:24):
Right there we go courtesy At Carbach brewing every single
week here On This Sean Salisbury. Show Chris gordy joins
us here we'll continue the Conversation Sports talk seven to.
Speaker 7 (02:14:33):
Ninety let's go. On this Is This Sean Salisbury.
Speaker 9 (02:14:38):
Show we were on with each other Last thursday talking
about how important this series was for this, team AND
i threw it out earlier To. Sean two, words turning.
Point do you feel like The astros reached a turning
point with this series win over The?
Speaker 5 (02:14:53):
Mariners?
Speaker 18 (02:14:54):
Yeah it's interesting you bring that up BECAUSE i had
a caller on the postgame show On sunday bring that, Up.
Sean you remember the trip To Mexico, city last year
where The astros were really struggling and suddenly they got
into that Thin mexican air and you, know ball start
flying out of the. Ballpark oh, yeah plies the. Seats,
YEAH i mean the offense came. Alive and that was
(02:15:15):
almost the turning point for this team last. Season they
they got their groove. Going and look, that make no
mistake about that was a monster series considering you lost
two out of three In, seattle you, know two weeks
into the. Season to take three out of four here at.
Home astros were playing great baseball at. Home, man they
just continue to win series after series at. Home and
(02:15:36):
so an opportunity to here with the Lowly a's who
were really, struggling coming in for two games starting tonight
and then four Against, tampa who just took two out
of three against you last, week you, know a real
opportunity to run off some more wins. Here and what's, crazy,
guys is all the injury pitching injuries they have for
them to still be getting this.
Speaker 13 (02:15:56):
DONE i cannot say enough about this.
Speaker 18 (02:15:58):
Bullpen this is by far the best stretch of An
astros bullpen two months into, season and by the, way
today marks two months into the. Season it is unbelievable
what you're getting From Brian king And bennett's. Sussa and you,
Know Josh, Hater Look brian and bre you have been so.
Good he was allowed to one hiccup in my mind
(02:16:19):
On friday night because then he comes Back saturday in
a one run game and he's. Nails so it's JUST
i can't say enough about what the pitching staff has
been able to do to piece this thing together With
Ryan gusto And Colton gordon and those guys getting. Done
and Like Joe spotta said to us On, sunday if
this offense gets going and they think it is going
to at some point Get Gordon alvarez back in, there
(02:16:41):
they're gonna win a lot of.
Speaker 13 (02:16:41):
Games, man if they can keep this thing.
Speaker 10 (02:16:43):
Going, Yeah, Gordy, Jordi Gordiam fauz thinking About Jordan, Alvarez,
Gordia i'm fascinated with AND i Test dan this AND
i would ask you the same thing if In MARCH
i had to come to, you AND i have said
mccullors will be making his debut and.
Speaker 5 (02:16:57):
See if he can get.
Speaker 10 (02:16:58):
Gone but It's Spencer aarraghetty With Nesky Spencer araghettio go through,
Injury Renelle blanco And Wes nesky is going to be
out the whole, year.
Speaker 5 (02:17:07):
And jordan's going to be hurt for a.
Speaker 10 (02:17:09):
Month you're not going to Have Alex bregman Or Kyle
tucker And Christian walker will be hitting two oh two
and al. Two bay's average will have dropped fifty points
in like twenty days thirty, days.
Speaker 5 (02:17:21):
And payne you'll be hitting lead.
Speaker 10 (02:17:22):
Off just so you know that they're going to make that,
change because, well they're going to, struggle And Yaner diaz
will be up.
Speaker 5 (02:17:28):
And down in the. LINEUP i told you that In, march.
Speaker 10 (02:17:31):
AND i would have said they're two or three games
over five hundred within a couple of games the first.
Speaker 5 (02:17:35):
Place what would you said to?
Speaker 13 (02:17:36):
ME i would have, said you're.
Speaker 18 (02:17:38):
NUTS i, mean, yeah there was no way to envision
this if you if you had told me all those,
SPECIFICS i would have thought they're nine ten games below five.
Hundred you, know bottom dweller in the in the. Division
try you, know, All, god they're doing it, again second
year in a. Row they're gonna have to dig themselves
out of a big hole in the.
Speaker 10 (02:17:54):
And Then i'm on the crack for suggesting that they
would be in this, position, Right, yeah, no, Yeah i've been.
Speaker 5 (02:18:00):
Fascinating to be honest.
Speaker 13 (02:18:01):
With, you it's it's.
Speaker 18 (02:18:02):
Wild and you know what's what's even wildering to me
IS i was watching a little bit Of detroit yesterday
and seeing that they are best in The American. LEAGUE i,
mean you know that The detroit competing with The dodgers
for best record in baseball is. Wild you, know but,
look you're you're still in the thick of this. THING i,
mean you're you're six back in The American league race
(02:18:23):
as good As detroit's been and The yankees And, Seattle
you're you're not you, Know you're you're still hanging. Around
you're right, there and you, know a two week, heater
you can find yourself right there with the best record
in The American. League SO i like What Joe spott
has said, though because, yeah the offense not been. Good
look that game on well was It friday? Night they
had no business winning that, game or Rather, saturday the
(02:18:46):
two to one, game like they had no business, day
they had no earned runs Like seattle To seattle blunders
led to two unearned runs and you won that game
two to. One those are the kind of games you're
gonna look back on later in the season and go,
that those were, big big wins for this, team and,
uh you, know hopefully they pay off for.
Speaker 10 (02:19:02):
Him your true comfort level with the ordance situation in,
truth IF i said one to, ten ten being you're
really really comfortable and one being uh, uh where are
you right now with?
Speaker 5 (02:19:13):
Him probably a.
Speaker 18 (02:19:15):
Five LIKE i don't, KNOW i read between the lines
them saying, like here's What Joe spott said to, us he,
said you're not gould go play. Today the problem is
they're just concerned about the the what do you.
Speaker 5 (02:19:29):
Call, it the, uh the like the, fall like.
Speaker 13 (02:19:34):
The fluid in the, hands the.
Speaker 18 (02:19:36):
Inflammation so that's the thing is it's all about tolerance
for him and monitoring that.
Speaker 13 (02:19:44):
Thing and SO i almost, say.
Speaker 18 (02:19:45):
Like just get him, out like put, him get him
in a pinch hit, opportunity and then see how he
feels the next. Day LIKE i almost want to do,
that but they're kind of doing the Whole, well we
don't want to do that and then have a setback
and all this well it's like, okay but days just
get to take by and we just like let it
let him. SIT I i'd rather get him out there
if he could swing a, bat which you clearly can right.
(02:20:06):
Now they're just it's all about the after. Effect if
the inflammation flares up again and then he misses.
Speaker 5 (02:20:11):
Another, week, well and that's just a thing, too.
Speaker 9 (02:20:14):
GUYS i mean it's kind of a are they searching
for something that just is not? ATTAINABLE i mean where it's,
oh you know when he's one hundred, Percent, well he's already.
Played he's not going to be one hundred. Percent SO i, mean,
like when is there, finally like the point where you, say,
hey we got to try this out and see if
this is gonna work.
Speaker 18 (02:20:30):
Well and the other part of, it, too is it
sounds like to, me this isn't An astro's, Decision this
isn't a trainer. Decision this is A jordon. Decision because
the Way Joe spotty keeps saying is When jordon says he's,
ready When jordon tells me he's good to, go so you,
know it's almost he's the one making the call here On.
Speaker 13 (02:20:47):
YEAH i could go, today But i'm worried about the.
Speaker 18 (02:20:50):
Inflammation so, AGAIN i don't know what the endgame is
But i'm gonna choose to look at it more.
Speaker 13 (02:20:54):
Optimistically.
Speaker 18 (02:20:55):
Uh Chanler rome even Asked joe straight, up do you
think he'll be back in This oakland? Series And joe,
SAID i don't want to put a timeline on. IT
i don't want to pigeonhold him to. That BUT i
think we see you are on back in the lineup
sometime this.
Speaker 10 (02:21:07):
Week, yeah and you, noticed they, Said Dana brown said to,
him And joe spoted referring to, HIM i think it's
one hundred percent now at this stage a threshold of pain.
Injury what can he, handle like you, said if he
can hand when he goes at them and tips his
hat and, Says i'm playing, Tomorrow he's playing.
Speaker 5 (02:21:23):
Tomorrow, YEAH i.
Speaker 10 (02:21:25):
Think but with the soft tissue obviously is why they
are and you, go do you know? This they always
air on the side of extra, safety Which i'm okay.
Speaker 5 (02:21:32):
With it's just a frustration when you're.
Speaker 10 (02:21:34):
On the outside as a fan wondering when and not
getting all the.
Speaker 5 (02:21:38):
Answers, well they don't have to give all the, answers.
Speaker 10 (02:21:40):
But to, me it comes down to When jordon thumbs
them up is when it'll. Happen what you don't need
is us to be having this conversation In august because
he came back and that the inflammation just is going
to be one of Those he's just gonna have to
deal with, it and he may very well have to
deal with the threshold of paint all.
Speaker 5 (02:21:56):
Year who the hell. Knows.
Speaker 18 (02:21:57):
Well the good thing is some of the other guys
in this lineup are starting to come around. Though two
they had a very nice. Weekend east Sac. Paratus, man
he is just flaring up with the home. RUNS i
mean they've been coming in, Bunches, maurice you dupond starting
to hit.
Speaker 13 (02:22:11):
Well Christian walker with the walk off home run On.
Speaker 18 (02:22:14):
Sunday hopefully this is the start of something for him
getting a little bit more comfortable at the. Play Cam
smith has had a phenomenal month Of may as a,
rookie so it's you, know the other guys are kind
of picking it up here and so, hopefully you, know
they continue to get. Hot you, Know Jake myers is
still batting around three. Hundred if you can get you
on on back in, there, man it's all the better
for this.
Speaker 7 (02:22:34):
Lineup no doubt about.
Speaker 9 (02:22:36):
It and that's what the astro is hoping to do
is they get two against The, athletics four against The
rays before they get an off Day, monday and start
up three In pittsburgh and three In cleveland before coming
back home in the second week Of. June BUT i, Mean,
gordy AS i, mentioned you get six more chances this week.
TOO i get out To Dike And, park enjoy the good.
Time and as long as you're at the, ballpark there's
(02:22:59):
no reason why you don't stop by that one concession
stand right there that has the Oversized Carbock Brewing Crawford bock.
Speaker 5 (02:23:06):
Can.
Speaker 18 (02:23:06):
YEAH i, mean, look there's they're all over the concourse
at Dyke In, park and you can get A Crawford
bok just about anywhere in the.
Speaker 13 (02:23:13):
Ballpark you can get it on a, tap you can
get in the big.
Speaker 18 (02:23:15):
Cans and nothing goes better with The astros baseball than
enjoin A Crawford bok there at Dyke And. Park this
extended home stand continues one of their longest home stands
of the. Season so get out over, there get Your Crawford.
Bock pairs perfectly with whatever you're having there at the,
ballpark whether it's. PEANUTS i like The pluckers wings me.
Personally but whatever you're having out, there do so with
A crawford bark From Carbock brewing and man root. On
(02:23:39):
These astros continue this outstanding winning streak or winning percentage at,
home and do so with A Crawford carbock.
Speaker 9 (02:23:46):
Burn, gordy appreciate, it, buddy all, right fell see you
there you. Go Chris, gordy the go to tron in
studio with us for His tuesday.
Speaker 11 (02:23:53):
Visit we'll talk to him again On.
Speaker 9 (02:23:55):
Thursday speaking of The, Astros, sean let's get back into
the conversation because things that we, mentioned both from a
hitting and pitching, perspective that are key for this team
over the next six. Games we'll talk about it right.
Here it Is The Shawn Salisbury. Show The Sewn Salisbury show.
Continued that means that three of the five returning starters
(02:24:19):
from last year's, team or three of the five starters
from last year are, returning is the better way to say.
Speaker 10 (02:24:24):
It, yeah no reason why this team won't be a
top five team going in.
Speaker 11 (02:24:28):
AGAIN i would, think, well and that was something to.
Speaker 9 (02:24:33):
See John, rostein who is probably the foremost voice when
it comes to college, basketball pointing out That purdue has
four of their starters, returning but he does believe THAT
u OF h And purdue are neck and neck for
who could be the preseason number one in the, country
AND u OF h also able to add some strong
returners and reports no longer needed BECAUSE u of h's
(02:24:57):
Own twitter account has thrown out that using is, back
so it's.
Speaker 7 (02:25:01):
Official so we know.
Speaker 9 (02:25:02):
That but so we've been talking a lot about The
astros this, morning and see That adrian wants to get
in on the, conversation we'll bring him in.
Speaker 11 (02:25:10):
Here good, Morning, adrian.
Speaker 1 (02:25:12):
Morning, fellas, morning, morning Morning.
Speaker 19 (02:25:15):
Sean as they used to say in one of my
favorite shows growing, up welcome.
Speaker 5 (02:25:20):
Back thank you. BROTHER i appreciate, you Mister, CARTER i appreciate.
Speaker 19 (02:25:24):
It hey, man Always, sean you know you number one
on the list unless you're about to pull A brian
on us talk about you off doing business and all
of a, sudden.
Speaker 5 (02:25:35):
Family so, uh.
Speaker 10 (02:25:36):
The, business the, businesses it's all, good but it will only.
Enhance it has nothing to do you know out, here
fix your six to.
Speaker 5 (02:25:43):
Ten, BROTHER i ain't going, anywhere you know.
Speaker 1 (02:25:44):
That that's. It that's. It we got to respect that.
Coach we say ten toes downy.
Speaker 5 (02:25:49):
Man how you doing very?
Speaker 10 (02:25:51):
Well?
Speaker 19 (02:25:51):
Man how are you triple? Page you know how we get? Down, yes,
sir that's. It now on to uh this baseball. Team
why is it we have to see the bad News
bears before we see The.
Speaker 1 (02:26:04):
ASTROS i don't understand.
Speaker 19 (02:26:06):
It we get all this bad news bears straight out
the gate and then oh my, god here come The
astros where they come.
Speaker 1 (02:26:15):
From how about we see The astros.
Speaker 19 (02:26:18):
First and then at the end of the year we
can go ahead and throw in the bad news bears
when we're sitting on that.
Speaker 1 (02:26:25):
Lead now on To. America, hey let me tell you.
Something according to.
Speaker 19 (02:26:31):
The, boss these terrors are going to continue to bring things,
down but you better watch.
Speaker 1 (02:26:37):
It it might mean down hill that is and for
the rest of.
Speaker 11 (02:26:43):
Y'all, Pierce, YEAH i appreciate the, Call. ADRIAN i.
Speaker 9 (02:26:52):
WAS i was wondering where we're going with the economic lesson,
there But adrian was able to land.
Speaker 13 (02:26:57):
The plant on.
Speaker 5 (02:26:58):
That oh he. Follows he follows the. Closely.
Speaker 10 (02:27:00):
Brother he's a, regular so it's it's always good to
hear his passion for.
Speaker 1 (02:27:06):
It.
Speaker 10 (02:27:06):
Man but, yeah it'd be nice with the twenty game
lead to go bad news bears in have. Fun but he's,
right start, slow puting everybody and all of a, Sudden
but this team seems to thrive in adverse. Conditions they
always have Since i've been. Here they just seem to
thrive when when everybody else, like, yeah well what's going.
Speaker 5 (02:27:22):
On this guy's, gone this guy's, gone and yet here
they are.
Speaker 10 (02:27:25):
AGAIN i, mean it's they're fortunate that you know that
the division may not be the you, know the best
bats rolling in the division Or seattle's bats SHOULD i
say In texas is struggling a little bit right, now
but both capable as we know, so but it is right,
man you go through THESE i guess every every team does.
(02:27:46):
It and we hear the word spoiled a. Lot the
bottom line is the success of The astros has happened
a bunch of different. Ways in the last eight years nine.
Years they've had to come from you, know being down
twelve to you, know start twelve and twenty. Four they've
been able to front run when they just dominated people
and put the division. Away they've been able to win
the division on the last, day so they've learned how to.
(02:28:09):
Win they've been able to win the division when pitching's.
Hurt they've been able to win the. Division when superstars
get away and go somewhere else and sign somewhere else
and stay the, course it's pretty.
Speaker 5 (02:28:18):
Impressive it's pretty. Impressive that's.
Speaker 10 (02:28:20):
What when you hear the word culture is overused with The,
astros it's not because the culture they've created is no
matter who comes in, here whether you struggle or, not
there is expectations until you live to, them will continue to.
Grind they just it's amazing it is to be able
to sustain this and do it in a bunch of different.
(02:28:41):
Ways AND i do Get adrian's frustration with the oh my,
gosh this start but so much better than last year's.
Start and HAD i had told you LIKE i told
you And gordy placed those things on The astros before
the season, STARTED i don't think many people would have
had them in this, position had all those things we said,
Happen and here they are still this team seems to
(02:29:03):
thrive when everybody else seems to, think, eh maybe the
window's starting to. Shut, well the windows open and it
get kicked open a lot wider and shattered and wide.
Open if The walkers And jordon gets back And Christian
walker And, jiner you, know do what they've, done and
there Especially jiner in the infancy of his. Career In
walker In, arizona it could be fun to. Watch and
(02:29:25):
it looks like Al tuovey starting to heat up, again
so that'd be.
Speaker 9 (02:29:28):
Great, well it's ALSO i, mean you, know we believe
that this is going to be a three team, race
so the hitting side of, it short of making, moves
which it doesn't seem like The astros are going to
have much room to make many moves when it.
Speaker 11 (02:29:40):
Comes to the trade.
Speaker 9 (02:29:40):
Deadline but short of making, MOVES i take them Over
seattle AND i take them Over texas for the reason
that you Mentioned jordon Himself texas even Without Corey, seger
he's Not jordon And, seattle they definitely don't have that.
Guy they've Wanted Julio rodriguez to be that, guy but
he hasn't been for the better part of the last
couple of.
Speaker 10 (02:29:59):
Years, yeah he wasn't great last year at the. Plate
obviously is when he broke, in he was off the.
Charts he may he hit the ground running so blatantly
and so significantly for them was like, wow and how
does he live up to, that but there is absolutely
no doubt that you know that without Jord, on for
this team to be doing what they're doing and get
(02:30:20):
him back would be. Great but it's it's just this
team has a unique, ability which goes to the culture
Part i'm talking. About when you're In arizona and you come,
here the, expectations you, know it's it's. Different even Though
arizona's a good baseball, club it's, different And i'm anxious
to see what it'll be like when everybody does. Hit
but the truth is if they got to fight and
(02:30:42):
scratch their way through. It BUT i can tell you
this man the pitching and to be able to continue
to stand tall and that bullpen do their thing with
the you, know three of the starters injured at least
going that started the season as. Starters it's, impressive, man it's.
Impressive it may not be, perfect but it is impressive
because a lot wouldn't be able to overcome it with stand.
Speaker 5 (02:31:03):
It so it'll be kind of nice when you get
everybody back. In they're.
Speaker 10 (02:31:07):
Rolling that's a good feeling and we see that here
every year as. Well at some point it's, like, oh
they won eighteen to twenty, three, okay and waiting for
it to. Happen but this team knows how to grind
and live like a lot of teams have to live
and just getting through it every. Day but they seem
to do it better than, most and they've been doing
it for quite some. Time they've won a bunch of different,
(02:31:28):
ways which is nice to.
Speaker 9 (02:31:29):
See, yeah they're definitely not unfamiliar with playing this type
of baseball in terms of trying to, compete trying to
be able to finish it off and be able to
get into the. Postseason and now the charge for them
after the way that last year, Ended, sean is to
be able to get even.
Speaker 7 (02:31:43):
Further so we can.
Speaker 9 (02:31:45):
Have one more thought here on The, astros but also
do want to close out the show with somebody who
decided to travel with their best friend in an unorthodox
way and it has a happy. Ending we'll talk about it.
Here it is The Sean Salisbury, Show Sports talk seven.
Speaker 4 (02:31:59):
Ninety Sean salisbury continues on seven.
Speaker 10 (02:32:05):
Ninety but, yeah tragic obviously from what happened When leonard
skinnered you, know first came out was a play uh plane? Accident, Correct,
yeah it was if you didn't know too, Often, yeah
too often with some of our stars AND usic music and.
Stuff so, yeah, no, UH i just put much respect
(02:32:27):
On Leonard. Skinner and that's a great. Cut it's one
of the all time. Greats so, YEAH i love. Them
miss the, original no.
Speaker 9 (02:32:36):
DOUBT i think my favorite is Uh Saturday Night, Special
Mister Saturday Night special or on The hunt is another good.
Speaker 1 (02:32:43):
One.
Speaker 10 (02:32:44):
Yeah they they put out they played some hits, man
but much respect To Leonard, skinner, no no doubt front
man or not much, respect no.
Speaker 9 (02:32:54):
Doubt we we put respect on the name that Is Leonard,
skinnered that is for. Sure here on The Shawn Salisbury.
Show one last Quick astros point BEFORE i get to
our furry, friends our best friends and taking them on
an interesting adventure before we close up The tuesday edition
of the. Show it's getting to the point with this
starting rotation where there is going to have to be
(02:33:15):
a movement like it seems like that where The astros
are in terms of what they can trade and what
they can get that could benefit their, team that they're
pretty much only to one major move AND i have
to believe that this year The astros are looking for
somebody with the express purpose of hey, man we trade for.
You you come in here and we need five six
innings out of you whenever you get the.
Speaker 1 (02:33:36):
Ball.
Speaker 10 (02:33:39):
Okay unfortunately they had that last, year didn't, they and
they little make trade at the.
Speaker 5 (02:33:44):
Deadline.
Speaker 10 (02:33:44):
Yeah, yeah they had that guy and let him go
and pitched his ass off WHILE i was here In. Kukuchi,
YEAH i was, Thinking, dan you mentioned the trade, deadline
and obviously we're ways away from that or what they.
Need if they were going to make a move where
the everyday, players would you make a?
Speaker 5 (02:34:04):
Move let's. Start let's talk about that. First, no where
are you gonna make? It you got you're not Gonna
you're not gonna.
Speaker 10 (02:34:11):
Slow down the growth of the right Fielder Cam, smith,
right that that's you know, that and even when somebody
else plays out, There so that's. Settled third base, Parades,
uh they're Playing walker too much. Money they're not going
to make a. Move we thought that they're going to
stick with. That, obviously the platoon at second, base you're
loaded at second base with three, dudes and when when
(02:34:32):
now two v plays left, field you got.
Speaker 1 (02:34:34):
Two.
Speaker 10 (02:34:35):
Uh the Centerfield myers is playing out of his. Mind
they've always this is who they. Wanted Jake myers to
be and then some by about sixty seventy points at the.
Plate the catcher is the. Catcher we've already known The
Dana brown When Corey lee was. Here so The yerd
is the catcher of the future presus and he's been so,
unless of, course you Thought jordan was out and you
needed a power bopper as a D h if he
(02:34:56):
was going to miss three more, months he's not more than.
Hopefully so it goes to with the injuries starting pitching right,
there there really is no OTHER i mean as far
as top and the line which you gotta go. Get
but that'll be a line because any, team to think
condition is gonna want that. Guy so you're going to
be faced with that again to possibly have to give
up some good players to get that if you don't
(02:35:18):
get healthy there sooner than, LATER.
Speaker 9 (02:35:20):
I, mean and that's you, know WHAT i think is
the good news when it comes to what The astros
would need out of said starting pitcher trade Is i'm
not looking for a frontline, guy.
Speaker 5 (02:35:30):
A fourth, guy fourth or.
Speaker 9 (02:35:32):
Fifth, yeah it is somebody that you can count on
and are they necessarily locked. Down, well if you're looking
in that part of the. Rotation, no they're. NOT i need, innings.
MAN i, mean it's Just i'm so worried about when
that shelf life comes for this bullpen who has been really,
good that because you've used them so much that there's
(02:35:53):
enough for book on them out, there and their effectiveness
starts to wane a little. Bit and that's WHEN i
think you can run into some.
Speaker 10 (02:35:59):
Problems think about how this would, be how our conversation
would be changing of all of a, sudden my color's
made his way, Back but how are we going to
fit him? In instead of we have To, okay let's
find a way to fit him. In If javier was Healthy, GARCIA, Jp,
frantz Wizn, Esky, Blanco arraghetty obviously With brown and.
Speaker 5 (02:36:21):
Fromber now do the. Math, now guess what you're.
Speaker 10 (02:36:25):
Doing you're possibly using one of them for luxury in
an asset to go get whatever the piece is you're
missing most, right that that's the. Truth think about we're
just talking about the guys who've been banged up this.
Year think about the rest of the depth of that.
Roster if they were, healthy you wouldn't even be asking this.
(02:36:45):
Question would you dance? It you wouldn't even need six.
Innings you'd be, saying, damn what do we doing with this?
Bullpen Where's lance? Fitting is he going to get a?
Speaker 5 (02:36:52):
Start?
Speaker 10 (02:36:52):
That that's how we'd be talking if you had. It
AND i know other teams go through, it but it's
been an inordinate amount of loss for a season or
setbacks and here they are still with those two horses
up front and then the. Rest but, yeah it would
seem right now an innings eater at some point and
you don't need. Him is not like you need to
go get a frontline, guy. Right you need a guy
(02:37:15):
that can can be you can plug in into the
fourth or the fifth, guy maybe the third, guy depending
who gives you those six innings and gets you to
a bullpen that's spectacular.
Speaker 9 (02:37:24):
Well and that's where the depth that you've built up
has paid. Off it's just the problem is now you're
really starting to strain that, depth AND i mean it
is completely stretched out at this.
Speaker 7 (02:37:33):
Point you don't you don't.
Speaker 5 (02:37:34):
Happen that was our.
Speaker 10 (02:37:35):
Concerned during the seventeen games straight and during the depending
on if, injuries what would happen if you had to
get into that bullpen too soon and that's what you
don't want to have, happened because it's the cumulative effect
at the end of the season that becomes an, issue
and you don't want. That you want them fresh and
you want them every bit as fresh as you. Do
(02:37:56):
you're starting, pitching and so a body depending on if and.
When but, health to, me the health And jordan's part of,
that health is the one thing. Stopping they're the best
team in this. DIVISION i don't care anybody says whether
in first question or. Not when they're, healthy everybody can
go through. That but The astros pitching staff is, different
especially when they're healthy than, others and their bullpen really
(02:38:18):
doesn't have to take a back seat to anybody and
hasn't the last couple of years with.
Speaker 5 (02:38:21):
The way they've taken care of their.
Speaker 9 (02:38:22):
Business that's Why i'd be nice to See Hunter brown
be able to go out there and shove tonight AGAINST
Jp sears as they get that.
Speaker 10 (02:38:28):
S you got a good shot at, that, BROTHER i
would think you've got a good shot at that.
Speaker 9 (02:38:31):
Tonight, yeah there's no playing in a bandbox with the
wind off the bay blowing out and fly balls going
out for home runs that should have just been deep.
FLYOUTS i don't think you're going to have any of
that this. Time real, quick, Here, sean we got about
a minute. Left did you follow the story Of oregon
Man Oliver widger who quit his job In Corporate america
and decided to sail To hawaii with his Cat.
Speaker 10 (02:38:55):
PHOENIX i did see the, story but go. Ahead yeah
it actually.
Speaker 9 (02:38:59):
Did, yeah So oliver In, phoenix we're pleased to announce
have arrived In hawaii. Safely they were escorted into The
Waikiki Yacht club with other, boats and The governor Of
hawaii was there to meet them when they got. THERE
i couldn't Take pixie on a sail. BOAT i couldn't
take if that thing, capsized AND i was the reason
Why pixie passed, ME i could deal with, It.
Speaker 11 (02:39:22):
Pixie, NO i gotta Leave pixie at.
Speaker 10 (02:39:24):
Home let's be grateful that they've made the land In
hawaii and Now i'm sure the party will be really
good for them after they got there.
Speaker 5 (02:39:30):
Safely good on, them, man for, sure good, story good.
Speaker 11 (02:39:33):
Story drinks on the locals At. DUKE'S i think.
Speaker 10 (02:39:37):

you go there for, that, yes.
