(00:45):
Cowboys beat the Seahawks on Thursday NightFootball. Shawn Tripley, Good morning,
Big One. This weekend got tonsof college football as well. Star
Texans Broncos. How can the Texansfight off a red hot Russell will yeah,
I will hit him. Would begreat, not give up big plays.
(01:06):
I'm anxious to see how Denver isgoing to come out and attack this
with Sean Payton, how aggressive they'llbe and defensively, how you're going to
play it on the back end andcreate pressure. You got to be careful
rus Wilson looks like he's starting toget his legs back and become that dual
threat guy that made him a goodplayer, and I would imagine they'll implement
that. But Sean Payton's got somegood things going on and big game here
(01:29):
Locally, I wonder what the biggestgame of the weekend is ATFL college.
There's plenty to choose from. Yeah, I'm going to say that Alabama Georgia
game is huge, not just becauseit's Alabama Georgia, but because the implications
are the ramifications that'll happen and whereit goes from here if Alabama pulled that
(01:52):
off. But championship weekend for mecollege football, this is like the weekend
of the year when it comes tothis. I actually like this weekend more
than I do the Final Four becausewe haven't got the final four we need.
Hopefully this year we will and it'llbe an awesome final four. We've
had it happen a few times, but I'm looking forward to it. And
then this weekend here, I thinkthe loser of this game is in a
(02:14):
very difficult situation Texans and Denver Broncosto make the playoffs. I think this
is a as close to him mustwin. That isn't an elimination when that
you can get considering the circumstances inthe AFC and in football. Yeah,
when you talk about all the footballgames, this weekend starts tonight PAC twelfth
title game Washington and Oregon, andobviously you've got big twelve acc SEC tomorrow,
(02:38):
and then there's a really big gameoutside of the Broncos and Texans forty
nine Ers and Eagles are on SundaySunday afternoon. That's another huge game in
the NFL. Two of the topteams in the NFC with got it.
After we saw what the Cowboys wereable to do with the Seahawks last night,
outlasted them, won by six fortyone to thirty five. Dak Prescott
(03:00):
played well, Gino Smith played well, DK Metcalf seed lamb. I mean
a lot going on in the NFLand college football. Yeah, too many
big plays last night. Both theseteams, especially the Cowboys in their situation
finding ways to win, but givingup that many big plays. Metcalf on
a bank post takes it to thehouse. You're going to have to eliminate
those big plays. And they didn'tsack the quarterback at least they got one
(03:22):
sacked, but they didn't sack GinoSmith last night, and the Cowboys are
going to have to feast off thatagainst good teams in the AFC. But
a resilient win by the Cowboys kickingfield goals late making a two point conversion.
Prescott playing good football is obviously isthrust himself right into the MVP talk
and it's going to be a hellof a run. And the truth is,
(03:44):
the game of the week probably isthe forty nine Ers and Eagles.
It's just that the college football partof it is that some are getting eliminated.
At least these Eagles and forty nineErs game. The winners or loser
are still going to. The loseris still going to be in this.
But that is that's the game ofthe week in Philadelphia in the NFL.
Now maybe not here they wanted here, but overall in the NFL, that's
the one. Because the truth ofthe matter is, I believe the Super
(04:06):
Bowl champion or the Super Bowl representativein the NFC, no disrespect to the
Cowboys is coming out of there. So he came this weekend Ford Nins Eagles
one of those I believe that doyou think the Cowboys are going to Cowboys
in January. I don't know.I don't know why. It feels a
little bit different. Dak seems likehe's playing at a high level, but
we got to see them. Youknow, you're now, if you give
(04:27):
up thirty five points, you're notgonna do. You're gonna have to hold
Philly in San Francisco down a littlebit better than that. But I love
resilient wins, and I think theCowboys deserve a lot of credit for the
way they battled and you know, making stops on plays that needed. They
just can't give up those home runplays. But Prescott delivered when necessary,
and he's played good football this yearand he is one of the three or
(04:47):
four guys at his position that deservesMVP talk. Made a great throw down
in the red zone to Seed Lamb, just over the top. His layering
of the throws and the way he'splaying right now, he has been pretty
sig tackler. How do you likehim now? Cowboys fans and people that
questioned him, But the ultimate question, like it is for Josh Allen,
like it'll be for him, likeit'll be for a lot of these guys.
(05:09):
What do you do for me?Lamar Jackson in January, and all
three of those guys will be playingin January, and even old Jalen Hurts
is in his infancy. You know, got back. I think there's a
drive for him to say that wasn'tenough. I got to get back and
win this thing. And so you'rein for a one hell of a run.
But that Philadelphia San Francisco game shouldbe off the charts. And the
(05:29):
Cowboys believe they're the best team infootball as well, which will be a
fun watch as we head down throughDecember to see who gets that number one
seed in the NFC. Yeah,Dak Prescott last night, twenty nine to
forty one, two hundred and ninetynine yards, three touchdowns, did not
throw a pick. Gino Smith waswas pretty good as well. Twenty three
or forty one, three and thirtyfour yards, three touchdowns of one interception,
Ceedee Lamb one hundred and sixteen yardsreceiving with a touchdown. DK Metcalf
(05:55):
one hundred and thirty four yards receivingwith three touchdowns. High steer with a
monster last night. Yep, Seattlehung in there, man. They did
a hell of a job matter offact. I mean Dallas had to keep
fighting back and playing, you know, getting a touchdown down and fight back
and then convert that two point conversion. It was impressive. Impressive two good
football teams. The Cowboys may havelost that at times in the past,
(06:16):
Yeah, and they won last night, which was big. Yeah. And
then you know, one of thethings that we've discussed here with the Texans
is the rushing attack compartit to thepassing. And if you look at what
the Cowboys did, they threw itforty one times and rush the football thirty
four times. Seventy five plays isa lot of a lot of football plays.
Seventy five plays is a ton ofplays that get you to a position
(06:38):
where even if you haven't played, you know, when you're limited to I
mean, that's ten or twelve moreplays of the average in the league I
think, I mean somewhere in thesixties. That's a lot of plays.
And that's pretty damn good distribution becausea lot of those thoris you saw scramble
check down that in the flat thatpress got through, those are a lot
of those are high completion, feellike run type of plays. And then
(07:00):
they made enough big place too. They take shots the Cowboys. Mike McCarthy's
done a good job man. MikeMcCarthy has done a good job of the
distribution of it, and the Cowboyswill responding what are they now? Nine
and three? Is that what they'reat now or is it? Yeah?
Yeah, it's a pretty impressive run, man. And I've got a lot
of buys this week. I thinkwe have like six teams on a bye
week and the Cowboys that's got tofeel good heading into their weekend with a
(07:25):
little bit of time off, feelinggood. That's what back to back?
What's today? That's back to backThursday games for them. They played last
Thursday and thanks Thanksgiving. So Iimagine Mike McCarthy give him a few victory
days off, but do not discountthose guys. They feel a little bit
different this year and their defense wasn'tanywhere near its best last night, and
they will get better come playoff time. Yeah, and you know that.
(07:47):
So that leads to the discussion aboutthe Texans against the Broncos. We just
looked at distribution just in a gamelast night Cowboys and Seahawks. What do
you think the distribution should look likethis weekend for Bobby slowick. He spoke
to the media yesterday and he specificallysaid on those third down, third down
and one and fourth down in oneplays that we talked about earlier this week,
(08:07):
he would have done the same thingif he had a chance to do
it over again, said he trustshis quarterback. You mean tell me on
one of those you wouldn't have ranthe football on third one. I don't
mind him trusting the quarterback. Iwould actually rather put the ball in C.
J. Strouds. So the waythis team, I don't think they're
you know, when I watched thePhiladelphia Eagles on fourth and one, I
(08:28):
know they're getting a first down,or on third and one, I still
don't trust the third and one anda half right now, full on run
game, because if you run itand don't get it, everyboy's gonna bitch
you didn't throw it. And ifyou throw it, everybody wants to bitch
that you didn't run it. Ijust want a better option when I throw
it, whether it's a getting aguy on the edge on a naked boot
and a drag and getting somebody tothe flat and somebody crossing and then have
(08:52):
a shot if somebody falls down tothrow it deep. But if my number
one read and if Bobby Slok wastalking about I do the same thing.
Put the ball in c. J. Stroud's hands with a tight end fade
on fourth and one with the gameon the line, then I couldn't disagree
more with Bobby slogan. Him andI need to have a little sit down.
Okay, do I think Bobby Slope'sa brilliant mind? And yeah,
(09:13):
do I think that the best highpercentage if you want to take that shot
on first or second and have atit. But fourth down, game on
the line and you throw that's notyour You don't work on fifty fade routes
to a tight end on the leftside, running fade route headed towards the
red st You just don't do that. That's not something I'm going to tell
you. What in all the yearsI in ten years of playing, how
(09:35):
many times I threw a fade orany of us threw a fade to a
tight end? Probably never rare?If ever? Yeah, hell, I
want you to line up Gronk outthere and throw him a fade route?
How many times you seen that happen, even when he's the outside guy.
To me, it was I getit. I just don't like it on
fourth and one for a first andhey looking for a missman, Go get
(10:00):
it on fourth but too many thingsbad can happen third and one. I
got another down to play with.I just can't do it. So I
don't disagree with him on putting theball in Stroud's hands. What I do
disagree with is making it a oneread drop back through a fade route to
a tight end on fourth and one. When I gave him no second read.
If that's the case, or ifhe did, Stroud never got to
it, so for me, Iwould have passing. I don't have problem
(10:24):
with how I get to that passand my selection on who's going Just give
me a first down like you wouldif you were playing Madden, so you
have four more downs to play with, or depending on the time and the
clock, a down or two toplay with. Fade routes, to anybody,
are not the most when you gogo watch how many times I'd like
to know in the red zone howmany times a fade route as opposed to
(10:46):
completion or incomplete or anywhere on thefield when it's fourth and two or less,
were you've won with a fade route? To anybody, let alone a
tied end. To me, that'snot the play call on fourth down or
the decision by the quarterback. Andif that was the only decision, then
that's got to get better. Ihave zero I want the ball in my
best player's hand, and Stroud's theirbest player on offense. I get it.
(11:11):
I don't get it on a faderoute with fourth down. So if
if that's the call he's going tocall again and it's going to be a
tight end, I would expect thatyou're going to get pretty much the same
result. Fourth in a yard andyou throw a fade to a tight end,
I would imagine that the chances ofthat being caught are slim, and
if you do catch it, thencount your lucky stars and don't do it
again until seven weeks later. Givehim a different opportunity to get on the
(11:33):
edge and do some things he needsto do. I don't like a fade
route to the tight end, andI don't think Bobby would call the same
play ball in CJ's hands. Yes, run to pass, no problem.
I don't trust the run game onfourth and a yard and a half either,
with the game on the line.Yeah, I don't now you spread
it out. You got to leadand you can do it. But in
that situation puts the ball in thebest player's hand yep Sean Payton for the

Bryan and Tripoli C. J.Stroud, Winning the offensive and the Rookie
Player of the Month. Texans willtake on the Broncos this Sunday at NRG
Stadium. Your Rockets back in actiontomorrow night in LA against the Lakers.
It's a nine to thirty tip off. University of Houston Cougars men's basketball taking
(14:30):
on Xavier back twelve title game tonight. Got a lot going on with the
college football playoff implications this weekend withthe conference championships, we continue to talk
Texans. Sean Payton, the headcoach of the Broncos, had some things
to say about c J. Stroud. This is what Coach Payton had to
say. It is unique. He'splaying well. When you watch him play,
(14:54):
you feel like you're watching someone who'ssavvy experience. You don't feel like
necessarily you're watching someone in their firstyear. He's confident. It's a dangerous
team that way. You definitely seethe explosives on tape. They've been down
late and come back. There's aconfidence they have that certainly is contagious and
you can see that on film. But he's been impressive that indeed he has
(15:16):
sure has and it's pretty self explainit the way he said it. Confidence.
There's a believability that you'd have ina guy that's been doing it four
or five years and has had successdoing it three or four times a year
bringing a team back. This ishis rookie year. But and it does
show up when it shows up ontape, like he's talking about, not
just with somebody in the naked Iare somebody telling you about it. If
(15:37):
it's if it, if you cansee it through the tape, the energy
and the belief just kind of risesin their big playability and clutch ability in
certain situations. Yeah, I wouldsay that Sean Payton understands all too well
what that looks like and has createdsome of that himself in Denver and in
his past. So C J.Strout's just different. But now the now
(16:00):
here's where it gets even tougher.Regardless of the schedule. It's December and
this is where all the great players. I know a lot of guys that
are really good from September to throughNovember over the course of time. Now
it's different. And now now thesegames against teams like the Colts or Tennessee
that you're supposed to win, yougot to elevate those and then you got
(16:21):
to beat teams that are hot likeDenver and stop a streak, and it
is it is not easy to getwins in this league, although we sit
at home in our couch and say, gosh, how do you miss that
throw or how do you miss thattackle? But this is why he's here,
and he's not playing like a rookie. And I can assure you the
Denver Broncos defense will not treat himlike a rookie. And that's a good
(16:41):
thing to go with. But itcan't be a passing fancy. They're gonna
have to somehow manufacture something out ofdifferent parts of the game. But went
in doubt. I always want theball in my best player's hands, and
Stroud gives them the best chance towin with the ball in his hand dropping
back to pass. Yeah, lookingat the odds, Texans is favored by
three pretty much a pick them game. I guess they got those three point
because they're playing at home. Iwould assume yep, even with Denver,
(17:04):
they would not be favorites if theywere going on the road. Even with
Denver winning five straight over under setat forty seven and a half. I
think the thing that sticks out tome the most about Denver is the job
that Sean Payton has done to getthem rolling five in a row, because
early on we thought, oh,well, you know, saying what is
(17:29):
what's the saying same stuff, differentday type thing. It looked like early
that Russ Wilson was not getting youknow, regaining and getting back to form.
Things weren't changing. And then outof nowhere they just kind of hit
their stride and next thing you know, they won five in a row and
all started with playing points wise, better defense, and they have not given
(17:51):
up. You know, they're notgiving up thirty points a game and twenty
eight points a game the during thewin streak, they're you know, giving
up in the teams less than twentypoints a game. I believe in the
five game win streak average wise, you know, you can run the ball
on him, at least statistically, even though Demico Ryans talked about their run
defense, and they have the potentialbecause you know, when you're putting five
(18:11):
guys up around the line of scrimmage, you've got a chance to stuff runs.
But to me, the biggest turnaroundis as a team. It's one
thing for my coach to talk inmy ear and tell me about it.
It's one thing to do it onthe practice field. After you give up
seventy to a Miami Dolphins team, say how do we get back into this
where humiliated? He can go eitherway, and it went the right way.
They have shorted up and they've hadtheir moments of you know where it's
(18:34):
like, oh gosh, what's wrongwith Denver, But they have five in
a row. You got to doa lot of things right. And to
me, it's how the resilience ofthe entire team. And I think we
all figured Sean Payton was going toimpact this franchise, but go back and
just read headlines. After the firstmonth of the season or two or three
weeks of the season, they werelaughing at him and saying, Sean Payton
(18:56):
didn't fixing this, and he hasnow the fix is you got to go
on and continue to play well. But I can tell you this from last
year. This year, you're watchingan entire this is how it was supposed
to look last year with five straightwins. But that's the difference. Sean
Payton's a far better coach than NathanielHackett, and Russ Wilson's responding far better.
And it looks to me like he'sin shape and decided that this.
(19:18):
I mean, had Russ Wilson toplay like he did last year, I'm
not sure rus Wilson would have beenthe quarterback going forward. That was Sean
Payton at the coach. I wouldhave assumed that back to back bad years
would have told me that Russ Wilson'stime to go off and what be a
broadcaster, celebrity or own a team, whatever it is he wants to do.
But he is really compliment to him, elevated his play this year,
(19:42):
and really nobody talks about. Imean, he's twenty touchdowns for four picks.
Yeah, I don't know why guyslike Josh Allen and guys who've thrown
far more picks are getting more creditthan rus Wilson. I mean, we
ripped him to shreds last year, and rightfully so. But he he's strowing
four picks and yet we're talking like, well, Buffalo man, Josh Allen's
(20:03):
stuck and you turn the ball over. I tell you what, you keep
turning over, You're not You'll belucky to make the playoffs Denver. A
big reason why is he's protecting thefootball and they're getting stops at the right
time and making more plays than theymade last year. And they've won five
in a row, and there's abig reason for that when that guy's look
at Minnesota, even Josh stops twogames, protects the football, plays out
(20:26):
of his mind. They win, turns it over six times last two games.
Guess what they lost both, Soit's no matter how good it is.
Russ Wilson deserves a lot of creditfor soaking in what Sean Payton's trying
to teach him and realize that evenas a veteran, I can learn,
and he's elevated, and if heplays well this weekend like he hasn't protects
(20:47):
the football, the Texans are goingto have their hands full. Which at
this time of year ago we'd havesaid, and take the Texas team this
year and the Broncos team last year, we'd have said, well, chalk
this up as a win. Evenwith the way the Texans have played this
year. I think it's a hellof a quarterback matchup in a sneaky way,
considering you got a rookie and aguy who's trying to revitalize his career
and has with what twenty touchdowns andfour picks that that's going to give you
(21:08):
that ratio is going to be nearthe top of the league, if not
the top. Touchdowns interception. SoSean Payton's helped turn it around. But
I got news for you, ain'tmade one tackle this year. So we
got to give the players credit forwhat they've done. Yeah, let's see
when it comes to some of thosestatistics throughout the league, touchdowns, the
interceptions, very few were going tohave sixteen more touchdowns than interceptions. Yeah,
(21:33):
if any for that matter. RussellWilson twenty and four, Justin Herbert
twenty and six, Patrick Mahomes twentyone and nine to twenty two to ten,
Josh Allen twenty four and thirteen, and then Dak Prescott obviously after last
night's win, twenty six and six. So that's impressive. I mean,
twenty six and six gets you towhat twenty touchdown I mean, your twenty
(21:59):
more touchdowns and picks. I'm notsure that we can't that it's now a
three horse race at the MVP.Two of them are playing this weekend at
Quarterback in Philadelphia and the guy yousaw last night and Lamar and I guess
Mahomes has to be in it becauseHe's going to be in it every years.
He's your lebron James. Every year, He's going to be in it.
(22:21):
But considering where they are, weexpect chiefs to be here. You
know what brock Perty and Dak Prescottand Jalen Hurts are doing. I think
that Prescott continues to prove that hehas not listened to one thing the fan
base or the media has said abouthim. He's taking care of his business.
Let's look at c J. Stroud'snumbers in the month of November that
(22:41):
earned him Offensive Player of the Month. That's next on Sportslock seven to eighty.
Barrel's his way to the basket.I'm the window it hey is?
Jay Shawnte Back to the Shawn SalisburyShow on Sports Talk seven Black Ship station
(23:02):
of your Rockets and talking Texans football. Here on the Shawn salis Very Show,
Sean Bryant Tripoli to Texans Broncos thisSunday at an RG Stadium, Rockets
Lakers Tomorrow night nine thirty to tipoff Packed twelve title game tonight, Washington
(23:25):
and Oregon Conference championship games all weekendlong. In college football for the month
of November, CJ. Stroud wasnamed Rookie of the Month and Player of
the Month. Extremely rare that thishappens. CJ. Stroud In November,
(23:52):
his completion percentage sixty eight point eightpercent. He threw for one four hundred
and sixty six yards, twelve totaltouchdowns and a passer rating of one oh
nine point nine. Hell of amonth, man, You'll see more of
those. Isn't gonna be the lasttime he wins this award. Phenomenal job
by him, you know, it'sjust it's it's it's a shame that he
(24:12):
uh that he just didn't you know, do well in his s two tests.
Yeah, yet there's still gonna besome that are going to pay attention
to that. You do know thisthat there are gonna be plenty that say,
you know what, he doesn't processinformation. So it'll be the quarterback's
job to say, listen, Imay not test well sitting in the classroom,
but I sure as I know howto test well x as it o's
(24:33):
on the field when it comes tothat. So some things just come different
to others. And the way youlearn it, there's different ways to learn
it, and he sure has seemsto be able to take his great physical
skills and apply it with his footballIQ and his poise, which is through
the roof. And when you atthat position, I need a guy who's
(24:53):
locked in no matter what happens, that even when it's going to hell in
a handbasket, that he's able tokeep everybody else random calm, and even
when you know deep inside you're like, damn, this is a struggle.
You just can't let everybody else seeit. And I have not seen his
confidence or his personality waiver at all. Good whether it's now, they'll celebrate
(25:18):
and do their dance, and youknow when he got everybody together. I'm
not sure what that dance was theywere doing last week when he got everybody
together and fun somebody in the faceor something. That's from the movie Baby
Boy. I've never never seen it. No, what's baby The fact that
you're telling me about a movie thatyou've seen that I haven't mark this one
down? Baby Boy? Yeah?Yeah, I came out in two two
thousand and one. What is it? Tyrese Gibson is in it, Snoop
(25:41):
dogg Omar Gooding. It's basically aboutI don't even know how to explain it.
He's doing it. Oh yeah, plenty of times. Yeah, maybe
I've seen it. I don't ifI have, I don't remember the scene.
And hell, was c J.Stroud even alive? Then one close?
(26:02):
Maybe close? Yeah, there's ascene where they're lining up. Tyresee
has his buddies all lined up andhe's running up and back and forth,
and then I don't know where hepunches one of them. Yeah, you
never seen baby. I thought thatI may have. I don't remember that
scene. I it probably wasn't onmy top one hundred wish list, but
(26:23):
I'm assuming that there's a reason.But when I saw it, I'm like,
and I even think the broadcasters arelike, I'm not sure what that
was. It wasn't it was putit this way. I'm grateful for their
success. The celebration was a littlebit. That's about as animated as he
gets. Yeah. Yeah, it'smy point and his poise through good and
bad. When I can't tell whatkind of game you're having, good or
(26:47):
bad. I like that because ittells me my quarterbacks primed and calm.
That stuff matters to me, andhe's proven that all year long. Speaking
of celebrations, DK Metcalf has beenfined tons of money this season for his
celebrations. Did you see by chanceone of them last night? What he's
what he's doing? Now, let'ssee he got in the end zone.
(27:07):
Did I miss a celebration that afterthe touchdown? I take my eyes off
it. I don't. I don'tknow which one he learned sign language.
Oh, that's how he does thecelebrations. Now, so last night was
standing on business, standing on business, so he did the like sign for
standing on business. Well, whatis that saying? Standing on business?
Standing on business? Seawan, Comeon, you want to go to the
(27:29):
resident a chime in here, please, I have a pretty good idea.
What's standing on business? Standing onyes, standing on business? What does
that mean? Dude? Do youwant me to pull up? You know
what it means? But where whereis that? Like? Just is it
in a song somewhere? No,that's it's just it's somehow it just it's
a it was thrust into society. That that's that's a saying like we would
(27:52):
about you know what I'll do aboutyour mid that kind of thing. That
one that one Canda came out ofnowhere, though, I'm going to to
the source. What everybody should goto standing on is this urban dictionary.
Yes, yeah, yeah, holdon, this ought to give you a
real straightforward answer. Yeah, Ican't even read it on air. Well,
(28:15):
then, hence why I probably don'thave any clue what I mean.
Standing on business was I'm assuming thatsimply means I'm assuming that means I'm taking
care of business. Yes, businessat hand? Correct? Yes, yeah,
i'd probably say it a little quickerhandle your business is all that means?
Correct, we're handling our business? Is that what that is? Yeah?
Standing on business also can be referredto as taking care of business.
(28:37):
Yeah, taking care of what's out, get getting stuff done? All right,
the same term. Yeah, notnot too sure on I probably think
that the thought process of how you'regoing to celebrate it takes more time than
preparing to score the touchdown. Yeah, yeah, I'm out. Okay,
did you celebrate? Not at all? Never? What? Never spiked of
(29:00):
football in my life? Come on, dude, you stay at six foot
five? Never spy, gave itto either alignment or did? I never?
I never power spiked the football inmy life, gave it to the
referee, gave it to teammate.Never never, not one spy. I
never. I didn't like I don'tmake you like that. I didn't wear
the belt when I dunked on somebodyin high school, which happened plenty.
(29:21):
Mind you all that I will makeyou I uh, I'm not. I
mean, have you know pumped afist or I've done that? Yea,
you know pumped a fist or donethe old Kirk Gibson fist pump after a
score. The reason why I wasn'tbecause to lock back in. I mean
that was when you say, celebrate, hug your teammates. My teammates in
both Winnipeg and Minnesota and say headbut my alignment headbutted me. Yeah,
(29:44):
not the one where you headbut somuch they knocked you out. But that
was there, like Gary Zimmerman orrandom McDaniel or there was like just a
loving headbut right, just like ahug, but like four head and fourhead
headbutt. And I mean that wasfine and if you needed a little extra
headbut to get the cobwebs out, that always worked too. But not the
time where you head but somebody sohard you get a concussion. You gotta
be wise with that because those guysare so pumped up. I can't remember
(30:07):
a time in my career where Iscored and got up and spiked the football
or sprinted near the back of theender, ran down to the other end
and looked into the crowd. Everit was give it to a guy who
blocked, give it to the guywho made the catch, let him spike
it. I didn't have I can'tever remember. And then going and running
up and down and pointing to thecrowd and standing on top of the bench
(30:30):
because it doesn't all the game's goingon the longer. I do that to
get to get back to it,because you can do all that. But
if now my favorite celebration, likeat the Gray Cup, was kneeling down
at the end of the game, then the celebration begins to me, and
I understand why guys get excited.I as the quarterback, middle linebacker jacked
up because his job is to knockthe hell out of you. To focus
(30:53):
in, and you know, justwatching guys like the way that certain players
like when I've broken Day Craig,or the way Dan Fouts handed Guys that
I watched growing up. I watchedguys that handled their business. I'm not
against celebrations, but for me inorder to lock back in mentally, because
you can have the greatest game ofyour life, throw an interception because you
lost focus at the end of agame. Nobody cares about how good you
(31:14):
were for fifty eight minutes. Theycare about how it ended, and me,
I just wasn't. I always wentback to we got another series to
win this game, so I did. I can't ever remember a time spiking
of football. There was ever evera time in a game where you're frustrated,
you're pissed off, and you finallyget a drive together and you score
(31:34):
a touch on like you ran onein or fist pump, No, like
just furious. At no time didwe practice a practice a celebration in the
back of an end zone offense atever. I can never remember, Hey,
guys, let's do this this week. Never like, hey, throw
the football to your to your linemanand then watch them spiky. You did
those, didn't you hear me saythat? I get what all around and
(31:57):
warming our hands something that. No. Never, I didn't go down.
I mean, and I'd probably beenthe guy while they all sprinted to the
other end the end zone wave athimsel I'll see on the sidelines. I
got to go see if I madethe right decision. Yeah, I just
and it's it's not a buzzkill,it's just for me. Yeah, I'll
never forget. I got pumped myfist three or four times, one against
(32:17):
Washington and opening a playoff game wentdown, hit a big play, came
and scored and pumped my fist, and del Rio met me. He was
our middle linebacker and obviously I've knownhim since I was sixteen years old.
He met me halfway outside. Theopening drive against Washington playoffs went down,
hit a run past sixty, counterChris card on a big post, dropped
it and got to the one.I think we scored the very next run.
(32:38):
Pump my fist a few times, just for them, But if it
would have been in my ball,I'd hand it at the random like,
yeah, you spike it. You'redoing you're doing more work than I am.
And I went to the del Riocame off the sideline, grabbed me
around the jersey with two hands andon my chest and said, sALS,
it's a long game, stay init, meaning because he knew it,
(33:00):
don't get too high. Well,he knew he we're teammates at SC and
the rest of it. He knewthat that was not my personality to get
he knew that I was, that'snot who I was, and he saw
and I'm telling dude, he wentout and nipped in the bud immediately said
basically, stay you, stay inthis moment. Don't get you We got
it. This is we got fiftyfour minutes left of this crap, basically,
(33:22):
and I'll never forget it. Andfrom that point on even then,
I just have never been a bigcelebrator for my teammates. I have,
but for me getting into the enzone because I ran a five yard here
and I didn't or you know, you know run did guys give you credit
for stiff arm and a guy andmoving him and then throwing it. But
I always felt that that I thatthe celebration should have belonged to the rest
(33:44):
of him. I would have lovedto do like the eleven person fun bunch
with the Washington he jumped up inhigh five at the top. I had
no time. Do I ever rememberother than a head butter at the high
five. I know we never planneda celebration in the end zone. So
I team and I don't have aproblem with the times change. Everybody's into
it. But I never even thoughtabout during the week, Hey, how
am I going to celebrate when Iget in? That was it was never
(34:04):
it was or when we get init was never. My celebrations are on
the sideliner or in the locker roomafterwards. So no dunking on people and
screaming yeah poster bits. No,no, because once they once they took
it. Yeah they already they alreadyknew. Yeah it did not have that
didn't have didn't have to say anything. But I love guys that have great
celebrations. I just was never forme. I needed to stay the course.
(34:28):
And I been watching warn Moon sameway. I don't ever can remember
war throwing for four hundred yards andfour touchdowns, of coming over there and
doing somersaults on his way back sideline. I was like, okay, it
was just never my style. Irespect those who do it, but it
was never my style. I thought, maybe you have a little bit in
there. Never once, I can't. I can't ever remember from high school
back getting just teammates run back tothe sidelines do it again. Man.
(34:51):
Yeah, you know, in basketball, baseball more excitable. But I was
never in football. I guess atquarterback because all the stuff the me till
part of it. I was neverYeah, I never got too into it.
Does that make sense? Yeah?Yeah, even to keep myself coming.
Yeah, I guess that was partof my obsessive compulsive behavior. You
never, I can't remember ever spikingthe ball in my life. Learn something

(37:23):
Shawn Salisbury, Brian Alima, EmmanuelElmore, Rockets and Lakers. Tomorrow Night
in LA nine thirty The tip Off, CJ Stroud winning the Offensive and Rookie
Player of the Month Award in theNFL. They play the Broncos this Sunday
at NRG Stadium, back twelve titlegame tonight Washington and Oregon. Playoff implications
(37:45):
on the line. A lot todig into when it comes to college football.
Nick Saban spoke about the college footballplayoffs. We've got that got some
interesting audio that I'm gonna play forSean at seven fifteen for the stakeout has
to do with the NFL is makesure you stay tuned for that when you
(38:05):
look at this matchup, Sean, for the Broncos and Texans this Sunday,
In your opinion, what is akey to a victory for the Texans that
no one's talking about? A keyto victory that no one's talking about.
(38:29):
Everyone talks about c J. Stroud, They talk about the offensive line struggles.
I mean not struggles, but meaninghealth issues. Yeah, I mean
I can go to the obvious, protect the ball, I go to the
obvious score more points than the otherteam, one of your favorites. I
mean, that's a score more pointsthan the other team, and actually no
(38:51):
one's talking about it, right, and usually that's just upsets me. That's
the best remedy coming off a lossis to score more points than team you
play next out at you dub.Yeah, that's nobody's talking about that.
Nobody's talking about that, you know. I guess a couple of things for
me is do you want to I'mthinking out loud on one of them is
(39:12):
do you want to pressure Russ Wilsonwith man and take the risk or play
zone and see if he can getthrough progressions and be patient enough to take
small strides to win a game.So I guess the aggressiveness or how are
you going to approach it defensively? The one thing you do when you pressure
and rush more than they have andforce them to throw quickly is or if
(39:37):
they sew it up and they maxprotect you. You saw last week with
four forty yard plus plays can make. They can't do that. I guess
the obvious thing for me, orone of the things that nobody's talking about,
and maybe maybe they are, butI haven't paid attention to what a
lot of people are saying, isyou cannot come out of this game.
(39:58):
And I know people are going tolook as well, you should be to
run the ball. All those thingsthat are obvious, I would say probably
the one that's not as obvious,is you got rid of your kicker.
Your back is their kicker is healthyagain, right, his backer is a
new one, Kymie fairbaron back onwho they I didn't even see who they
replace him with this week? Diddid I see? I want to say
if Brent Mayer her? Yeah, her, Yeah, the former Dallas Cowboy
(40:22):
field goal they signed him? Uh? Did they sign him? I can't
remember. If yeah, I'll lookit up. I'll make sure. No.
My point regardless regardless of what thesituation is with the kicker or if
they have even announced, you knowthe hell I would imagine today, we'll
know if we don't. I havenot paid attention to other than Ammon Doola's
(40:43):
was let go, right, andthen they were trying to sign him on
the practice squad right. I Uh. For me, it is every time
you get into the red zone, you cannot cannot come away without points.
And the second caveat to that ismake sure that they're six not three.
So they worked out Brett Maher, they waived kicker Matt Amandola, and then
(41:10):
they also worked out Taylor russ Alinonow swifty. No, I don't know
if she can kick footballs. Shemight be able to kick Kelsey's ball and
it even goes. If that's thecase, and you're not, you're not.
How much longer is field goal kickerout for? How much solid is
this week thirteen? Yes? Soon the injury so Fairbairn is making significant
(41:36):
progress in his recovery from a whiteright quad strain and appears on track to
return from the injured reserve when firsteligible for activation week fourteen. Okay,
so next week, cannot leave thered zone and for me, that's not
inside the twenty. That's when youcross the thirty. You can't leave the
red zone without points. This weekyou can't, which means take a sack
(41:59):
out of field goal rain fourth andnot get it on fourth down. You
must get points every single trip insidethe thirty. So they don't even have
a placekicker listed. That's well,Hans, and they'll have somebody ready to
go. You must get points inthe red zone. There's your I mean,
(42:19):
I'm sure they are, but tome, and it seems it's not
just touch on points. Look, look at the Bears last week. They
just had on Monday night football. They went, they kicked four field goals
and won twelve to ten quarterback turnedit over. You didn't get in the
end zone, and you won.At least you came away with points and
forced the Vikings to have to scoreand didn't. They only scored ten points.
Yeah, if you hold Denver toten points, you'll win. But
(42:42):
you've got to give me points everytime you cross the thirty. And I
don't care what those points look like. Gotta get points, yes, have
to. All right, let's getinto the seven o'clock hour. Let's look
at the big matchups in the NFL, especially right here in the AFC South
as we roll on to seven o'clockright here on Sports Talks. But before

good morning guys. You guys havea good weekend. By the way,
(45:43):
for me, it's you got toput pressure on Wilson. I mean,
you know, I look at thelast three losses. I'll give the first
two losses. You know, thebeginning of the season. I'm not gonna
look at those, but if youlook at the last three losses, starting
with the Panthers, we ran theball twenty eight times and Sez do it

Talking Texans my Ash Shawn last segmentthe one key for the Texans victory that
no one's talking about. Got someguys on the phone that want to get
in. Seven one, three, two point two five seven. I didn't
(47:37):
start with Andy, Andy, goodmorning, Hey, good morning guys.
You know, guys, have agood weekend. By the way, for
me, it's you got to putpressure on Wilson. I mean, you
know, I look at the lastthree losses. I give the first two
losses, you know, the beginningof the season, I'm not gonna look
at those. But if you lookat the last three losses, starting with
(47:58):
the Panthers, we ran the balltwenty eight times and cz threw it twenty
four times. Basically, Slovak comingout of the bay said, hey,
I'm gonna give a running game going. And I blame that loss on Slovik.
And these last two losses, nosacks whatsoever. We let Ritter and
(48:20):
Lawrence have their best days ever. And Sean knows this a backup quarterback you
give him. Tom can complete passesin the NFL, and if you don't
get pressure on Wilson, it's goingto be a long, long day.
And I blame that on Demiko. If he's not getting pressure with his front
four, he's kind to dollop someblitz this. He didn't blitz much that
(48:44):
game or the Atlanta last, thejag game or the Atlanta game. And
I blamed that on Tomko. Youguys, have a good weekend there you
edy, you two. Let's goto Tom up and spring Tom Good morning,
Good morning. Could to speak youguys as always. I hope you
had great holidays. I look atthis, I look at this game this
(49:07):
week, and I say, Ilook at two teams that are mirror images
of each other. Two good quarterbacks. They both can put the ball on
the ground. The defenses are prettymuch but you know the Broncos, they're
dead last in the league. Theygot to take advantage of that. But
you guys said something earlier in theweek that is a real key thing for
me with the run and Sean youcould probably touch on this won't be better
(49:30):
than me. What are they doingbetween the fair thirty yard line and the
other team staatey yard line. Arethey effectively running the ball when they can
to show that those linebackers, Hey, we'll go down the middle, but
you better stop the run. AndI think that's elementary for football. But
you know, I think the Texansare going to have a good game.
I think it's going to be ashootout mirror images, you know, and
(49:54):
earlier last week, you guys talkedabout their records. It's going to be
tough. If they lose it,it's going to hurt your playoff chances.
So I look for them to comeup real big this weekend. I think
CJ will lead them, but therun's going to be key. Thank you,
Tom appreciate. I think the run'skey. And playing between the thirties,
(50:15):
which gets me down to inside thirty. In red zone points, I
don't care if it's field goals ortouchdowns. I prefer six. But you
know, kick five field goals youprobably won't win in the game, but
you still can't come away without points. But as far as the run game
goes, I always guard against whenyou've gone and struggled with it the week
before that you get to a pointin both calls. I mean, you
(50:35):
saw what Lawrence did without getting hit. And I would say that while you
got to hit russ Wilson, I'mnot sure you got to you sack him.
I just think you've got to preventhim from allowing him to use.
Russ Wilson's really good at when heextends the play and is throwing, he
now is looking to run. He'sbeen an efficient runner outside the pocket and
(50:57):
broken people's back. Not literally, but you know three or four times a
game with an eight yard run whenit's third and six. I mean,
so it almost you almost have toapproach it is. You can't be overly
aggressive at the point of attack becauseif he steps out of it, it's
more of those big plays can happen. But I think that every single week
(51:19):
two things you got to do.On defense, you've got to pressure the
quarterback, and on offense you haveto at least establish the threat of the
run. I always am a littlecognizant and concerned when you've struggle to run
the football that one week, thatthe next week you come out and try
to force feed it. Now,statistics say you can run the ball on
(51:42):
Denver, but what happens is Istill don't want to shove it down your
throat. I'd like to establish itby creating space with formations in the passing
game and then mixing in the runwhen necessary. And establishing the run,
as we've said, does not comeon running and on f and second down
and it's third and six. Whatit comes with is it being able to
(52:05):
create deception for a defense that they'rewondering, that they are questioning when they
break the huddle the defensive coordinator, did I get this call right? It's
third and five, which means youdon't because when you do that on third
and five, guess what's still inplay? The run game. When you
play Philadelphia, the run games inplay on third and five. It just
is the good teams haven't in play. But if your tendency is run,
(52:27):
run pass, I'm not saying forthe textans talking about anybody. Eventually you're
going to be in those long yardof situations and third and seven plus you're
not going to win games that wayweekly doing that. So first down win
that's another thing I'm huge. I'vesaid before winning on first down. I
don't care how you win. Giveme four to five yards on first down.
Now I get to dictate the Temple. So I think running the football
(52:50):
is going to be paramount, butrunning the football can be done in a
lot of different ways. It doesn'thave to be, hey, we're going
to establish a run by lining upon first and second down and punching you
in the face. I don't think. I think this team right now is
capable of punching you in the faceand knocking you out. I think they're
working on it, and for threeor four weeks they got better at it.
But it wasn't because you came outand ran it for a quarter and
a half to start the game.It was because the quarterback was efficient,
(53:13):
play calling was multiple formations, createspace, and I think that's what you
have to do and then let theseguys do their thing. This team isn't
Derek Henry's Titans when he's in hisprime or when they're running it where you
line up and it's first down, second down, third and four boom.
Henry again say that for the fourminute drill at the end of the game.
(53:34):
With this run game, but creatingspace and multiple formations will be important
because you're going to see that withthe other guy. Sean Payton's going to
try to create some deception for you. Mismatches are everything in football. And
if those mitchmatches are created by runningthen throwing or throwing then run and creating.
But I don't think you can gointo game. See we're going to
do this. Stubborn's not the wayto go about your business when it comes
(53:55):
to winning a game. When itis is when it's down at the half
yard line. If you can't runit four times and get in the end
zone, you don't deserve to win. Those are the situations where it's me
against you. My muscle versues yours. I'm a punch in the face,
and if we can't get into fourdowns, then we're soft as as wet
tissue paper. Yeah, and soI think that you can run it without
(54:16):
force feeding it. Look at aCowboys success. You throw it thirty five
forty times, but they also ranit a bunch and the space gets created.
Because guys take outside rushes, youcan gash them inside. So I
want to create it where seven yardsor less or six yards or less,
my run game is still in play. If I want it on third down,
that creates problem and questions in adefense knowing how do we game plan
(54:39):
against this? I don't think youcan be one dimensional and beat Denver at
this stage of the game. Fivestraight wins. Talking about the run game
last week against the Jaguars, eighteenrushing attempts. Ce Jes Shroud led the
way for the run game. Yesix carries forty seven and that wasn't by
design. No, Devin Singletary sixcarries, Damian Pierce five care that will
(55:00):
take that with one unless c J. Stroud's the MVP of the weekend.
Those fuck guys getting eleven carries isnot going to be enough. Now,
if it's eleven carries and you're upby thirty, I'm okay. Eleven carries
in a second half, Okay, fine, But the results when you're running
the ball less than twenty times, yeah, don't usually end well. No,
(55:22):
not ideal. The attempts, yeah, it doesn't usually end well.
Yeah, eighteen of them. Sowe'll see what Bobby Slowick has in store
for the Broncos this Sunday. Allright, let's get to the stake out
next right here on the Shawn SalisburyShow. Hey guys, Spindle Tap Beer,
Spindle Tap Brewery, and this Sundaywe got one for you. Got

hearing out there now? The SalisburySteakout, salsburyef takeout on the Sean Salisbury
(57:37):
Show. It's time for the steakouthere on the Shawn Salisbury Show. Oh,
(57:59):
this is a good, good onefor you, Sean. Your buddy,
uh Colin Coward some good audio.Ready to hear it? Am I
ready to hear it? Uh?Huh you don't want to know if I'm
ready to hear it. Sure,Okay, he spoke about Rock Party.
He's probably gonna say the same. Not talented enough. Oh no, no,
(58:22):
no, this is good stuff.Ready. Yeah, all right,
Colin Coward had some would you dome if do you have Purty's numbers in
his seventeen starts so I can getit from last year to this year or
whatever? Yeah, just curious betweenlast year's stats and this year's stats.
How he is, Well, he'son a good team. Oh yeah,
I guess it's amazing what Dak Prescott'sdoing on a good team too. Huh
(58:42):
yeah, this hurts is on apretty good team. This piece of audio
is you're gonna be like, whatin the eyes He's doing it to get
your goat. That's why he's doingit. Just but I mean, I
understand that. But just just let'slet's play it, all right, triple
go ahead and run that audio ColinCoward talking about Rock Party. There is
one one thing that does make mepause on San Francisco. You know,
(59:06):
I'm a big believer. I likemy quarterbacks to be adults. I don't
want him to be frat boys.So Jalen Hurts at the podium is the
best podium quarterback in the league.Has it right there? Pause? Right
there? Triple he please? Allright? So with this audio right here,
picture comes up of Jalen Hurts haton forward, hoodie team hoodie,
and then the next one when hetalks about Brock Party. It shows the
(59:28):
picture of what Brock perties were.I just wanted to preface that real quick.
All right, go ahead and rollit. So Jalen Hurts at the
podium is the best podium quarterback inthe league. Hat on forward professional,
almost manicured, got that ceo likea real grown up Brock Party. Hey,
you guys want to hit some golfballs? You got a hat on
(59:51):
backwards, not a franchise quarterback.I mean, come on, if that
guy came to move your couch, you'd be like, are you a professional?
I'm telling it really bothers me.Maybe I'm overstanding. It's probably nice
kid. He's got his dad needsto call him and say turn that thing
around. By the way, youguys say it doesn't matter, all right,
I am not. You know,I'm not saying you can't wear it
(01:00:12):
backwards in the garage playing frisbee. But hacky sack. You know your barista
is out there. I know that'sthe uh de facto, you know default
excuse me, uh dress attire.I think quarterback Wednesday podium Jalen Hurt says,
how you want to look franchise quarterbackCEO respectful to the owner in the
(01:00:35):
organization. I not a precise quarterbackand he's wearing his half backwards. Let
me tell you something, though I'mnot far off from him on this,
I'm not. I think that's phenomenalaudio. Really, Oh, I think
it's hilarious and I love it.I wear my hat backwards in here all
the time that way. I willnever in public wear my hat backwards.
(01:00:59):
I don't, and when I'm arounda group, I'm okay with people doing
it. I just I would neversit at a podium. I'm not a
franchise quarterback and I do. Letme back up here. Do I think
that wearing your hat dictates whether you'rea good player or not? Absolutely not.
Do I think there is a perceptionof people who were there. I
can tell you this. I wouldnot when I was coaching Little league baseball.
(01:01:21):
Huh and you were not allowed towear your hat backwards? No?
Hell no, no, no,no, no, no, you want
to you we're not allowed to wearthat hat backwards once you hit the field.
You want to wear it at homein your dad's car, your mom's
car. Haven't you would it backwards? I would? You were not practicing
until you turn it forward, becauseyou know what you're not Kim Grhy Junr.
I even hated it when Griffy Juniorwore his hat backwards in the home
(01:01:44):
run derby. I was like, but he started it. I know that's
what I'm saying. I didn't likeit. But you know what, your
king, Griffy Junior, wear yourhat sideways if you want. Yeah,
I have no problem with it.Do I think that Colin Coward's career,
he's had a wild hair about thehat backwards for years. First time talking
about it, Yeah, again,it's his thing. You can't be a
franchise quarterback like with your moves ofhis furch of the way he said,
(01:02:05):
hey, bro, what what doyou say? Yeah? I actually think
that was one of his better explanations. I don't think, deep down,
I don't think deep down that goinginto this game he thinks that the forty
nine ers are going to lose becausebrock Purdy wears his hat backwards. I
think there is that some guys think, yeah, I look pretty cool,
let me turn it backwards. Yes, I do. I think it's it's
(01:02:27):
a it's a I don't think guyswear Why wear it backwards in a situ?
I mean it can't. You don't. You can't think it feels better
and the picture they show will wearit backwards because they think it looks cool.
The picture they show, we don'teven know if that's actually after a
game. It could be just duringthe gage, right. I don't care
about that. Listen. I don'tlook at a guy and say party can't
win. I think Perty is oneof the more efficient real pros in this
(01:02:50):
league. Now does he have that? Hey, bro fraternity? Look what
he were? Sure he does? And he is spot on about the best
podium quarterback, and I'm not surePrescott's not. I think Prescott's a great
podium guy too. I think JalenHurts. It goes along with what I've
said. There is not a playerin this league at any position, and
(01:03:12):
has this been since he's come intothis league. You may there may be
better throwers, there may be taller, there may be more Super Bowl rings
Mahomes and all that. Haven't Iseen Mahomes wear his hat backwards once in
a while, Yeah, and he'sgot super Bowl rings. So obviously it's
not that I don't agree with himon that. I'm not a big hat
backwards guy. My dad never woreit that way. I just am not
(01:03:34):
do. I look at it sometimesand say, when I see some sixteen,
you know kid walk out there andall the gear on, he's got
his hat backwards, to me,get your ass back to turn your hat
around. Now that that bothers me. So for me as a coach,
Like just this past week or twoweekends ago, I walked up I saw
some of my kids wearing air podsand I said, take your air pods
out. You're not prosers. Know. If I'm a head coach on the
(01:03:55):
sidelines, I don't want your hatbackwards on the sidelines, and I just
don't wear one. I make mykids keep their shirts tucked in until they
leave the ballpoint. John Robinson madeyou come out of the game if your
jersey came untucked, tuck it backin before you went back in. So
it's just the way it get peoplelearn. It's different era, that's fine,
but when I see that the hatbackwards is nothing more than I'm trying
(01:04:15):
to look cool. But if you'retrying to endorse your product, yes,
wear the hat forward so you cansee whatever product you're endorsing. Right,
But Jalen Hurts is I'm telling you, I believe this, And I wish
we had the audio Siggs if hewas on here A form producer. Anybody
that's heard me when Jalen Hurts wasa freshman at Alabama, I said he
was the most poised freshman I'd everseen. I swear I said that on
(01:04:38):
radio and on television. He hasnot disappointed me. I still think,
and I don't think it's close.I think he's the most poised when I
watched him play, I'm calm.Everything he does, says, it's almost
like his pops and mom said, dude, you're going to do this the
right way. You're gonna dress thepart, you're gonna wear this, you're
(01:04:59):
gonna treat it. He looks likea coach's son, where the coach said,
and his dad's a coach. Wewe're not doing it that way.
Yeah, And does that mean thatguys with hat backwards aren't cool and they
can't. Of course they can play. Of course you can win a super
Bowl. I've seen Dan Marino backgo look at old school pictures when Dan
was in Miami. He didn't wina super Bowl. But Danny wore's hat
backwards at times when he was warmingup. I don't have a problem with
that. I'm more of a hatforward guy. That's just me. And
(01:05:21):
I'm not a hat tilted, youknow, for six inches to the right
or that's just me and it's okay. Do I agree with Colin Coward that
you're not super Bowl type or afranchise quarterback if you got your hat backwards?
No, but he is correct thatthere is we all. Well,
how many times do you go whenyou rip a guy for being like like
(01:05:42):
kind of just like giving you horribleanswers on the podium afterwards, Jalen Hurts
is addressing you one way or theother, straightforward in the way it goes,
and I like that. You know, I'm a huge fan of Rock
Party. I can care less aboutthe hat, but for me, he
is right about the CEO approach.Jalen Hurts does everything you want from a
franchise quarterback on and off the fieldeverything and he performs. Now, you
(01:06:04):
give me a guy who's a greatexample but can't play a lick. He's
not a franchise quarterback. He doeseverything. Rock Purty is a pro.
I know the guy who trained RockPurty for years and guy got news for
you. Rock Purty is a littleof his fiery and he does it.
But he does. You know,we we automatically think hat backwards. You're
the frat guy that you're that, you're the guy who wants to be Ken
(01:06:24):
Griffy Jr. And do it incompetition all those things. I'm not a
hat backwards guy. Have you You'venever seen me wearing my hat backwards?
It's at Yeah, I have noyou have no I have When I'll pull
up our picture that's on our website. Oh I had The reason? Why
is they told me to? Yeah, because of the shade of the eyes.
That's the only reason. But you'llnever see that. That was it
(01:06:45):
because I had a hat on yourdue. We forgot we were taking pictures.
Now, No, I had myhat on, I had a shadow.
We did it because we wanted tohave fun with it. Well,
then you got but I but normallywhen you're taking a picture like that.
They tell you to wear it up, but I don't wear it up.
We ain't wear I wear it downand you couldn't see my eyes. So
I'm not going to turn it backsign ever wear I'm never wearing my hat
backwards ever again? Then why becauseI don't want to? Honestly, when
I first started here, I neverwore my hat backwards because I didn't want
(01:07:06):
to come off as disrespectful. Sothen why do you wear backwards now?
Because I'm we're bros. Okay,so you're a bro. I got that
CEO like a real he. Youguys want to hit some golf ball.
He's not even from the East. He's not from Boston, New York for
Jersey and he's from he lives inArizona. But my thing is I don't
(01:07:30):
have He's wrong on the You can'tbe a franchise quarterback. Guys want to
hit some golf balls, and it'snot doesn't dictate what kind of player are,
but there is a It does makeyou synonymous with stuff, right harmless,
of course I'm not. I'm nottalking about I'm talking about when you
think about Jalen Hurts, you dofeel the way I mean you look at
him, say he's professional, he'she's leading this organization. Yes, the
(01:07:55):
perception when the guy's got his hatbackwards, he's a little immature. I'm
talking about perception, Yeah, limature. Does Colin Coward take it to a
whole new love, of course hedoes. You can be a franchise quarterback
and wear your hat backwards. Okay, would you picture Kelsey being a hat
forward? Hat backward? Guy?Hat backwards? Right? What about what
about his brother? Hat forward? There you go, and the way their
personalities are, it doesn't make himbad. Ones a Hall of Famer,
the other made up be in theHall of Fame. Said, point is,
(01:08:19):
it's not that big a deal.But I do believe. I do
believe in the poise Ceo. Ithurts it now. I think perty can
go in there and beat him.I think it's gonna be a hell of
a game. So I don't agreewith him on that, but I thought
it was hilarious. He's guy, told you he's clever. He is,
he's had a wild hair for that. I think he ripped. He cannot
(01:08:40):
stand I didn't know that he hehe If you wear your hat backwards,
he automatically has ruled as a franchise. That's why I said, Sean,
when you hear that, you're gonnabe like, what the But then but
I didn't. Okay, I've heardhim say before, but that's what And
then he comes up with a funlittle Oh it's hilarious. Now, it's
funny. It's absolutely hairess. Butso no, that's not the precursor.
Being able to throw time and accuratelyis your precursor. But there is that
(01:09:01):
perception of leadership. But also youask the Zoids they love a man in
a backwards hat. I'm telling youall right now, I'm telling you yeah,
but you're gonna depends on who youtalk to. I know people that
think if you wear your hat backwards, you're you're an immature foy that that,
(01:09:24):
And then I know the other oneswhere at Ford and did think steps
outside the line once in a whilefollows the rules. But I don't care
either way. But I'm just saying, and I'm not playing football for zoids.
If I'm rocking down here, well, I don't know. I mean
why, I mean, why dopeople wear their hat backwards? One reason,
(01:09:45):
right, well, I like thelook that me the look right exactly
I personally, I don't. I'mnot going to walk down the street.
But now doesn't mean I never worewhen I'm doing something moving back because I
got to see better. But Iuh, I, I'm just a excuse
me, and I don't have aproblem. And I do not believe you're
a franchise quarterback just because you wearyour hat forward. So but it is
(01:10:06):
clever. But he's had this.He loves that shtick of that hat back.
Now Perty goes and beats Philadelphia andwins a Super Bowl, then what
are you still not a franchise quarterback. But he's right about the Hurts thing,
because I think Hurts is the mostpoised player in the league. And
there is a perception by some corporateAmerica whatever it is, that he's buttoned
(01:10:28):
up. That's the way people lookat it, right, But it reflects
on the field too. That's howhe plays right, very poised, very
nothing affects him type of thing. That's exactly right. They kind of and
I think he's a little more fiery. Reminds you of the guy who just
threw a touchdown in the frat leagueand honestly, yeah backwards on purpose in
the intermural league, and he wearbackwards on purpose now just to get his
go next thing. You know, you see him over there and he's doing
a keg stand there you go,or he want to go hit golf ball.
(01:10:50):
So whatever it is, Hey,whatever it takes. Yeah, whatever
it takes. All right, let'sget to break. Deon Sanders talks about
kids decommitting and committing. That meanwe'll talk about a next in sports stock

was that award that he won?Sean? He told me a couple a
couple of minutes ago, Sport twentythree Sportsman of the Year. Why because
(01:13:17):
they won four games? I guesshuh. I think it's because of the
you know, Dion's a great heknows how to promote and market him and
his players. I think it's becauseof the way he set college football on
its ear the first month of theseason, and that he came in in
the offseason and did it his way. I don't I don't know what the
(01:13:38):
qualifications are the criteria for Sportsmen ofthe Year. I'm not sure four or
five wins is it, but Ithink it's the overall perception of what he's
done at Colorado so far, andmaybe the impact on kids and the buy
in. I don't know. Idon't know what the criteria is. But
(01:13:58):
if we've just made it because hecame into Colorado and impacted it and celebrity
started showing up, and you knowthat that we're looking at the Boulder different,
the University of Colorado are different. But if it comes from the x's
and o's and winning, he shouldn'thave won it. But there's I think
a lot of other reasons why.And you could vote, I guess however
you want. I don't know whovotes for it, to be honest with
you, on magazine or sports, the sports associated Sportsman of the Year.
(01:14:21):
Yeah, yeah, I don't know. I mean, I don't know who
the candidates were, but there's there'sI guess it's the early impact of the
football season and maybe his off seasonabout coming in and doing it clearing house
and Dion is a very there's nothingintroverted about it when it comes to speaking
(01:14:45):
out for his program. So maybethat's why I don't know what the criteria
is. The Sports Illustrated editor inchief Stephen Kanella said, quote, Deon
Sanders dominated the sports conversation in twentytwenty three as a transformative figure. You're
not just in Colorado, but forthe entire realm of college sports on and
off the field. He represents anew model for the modern college coaching.
(01:15:06):
Quote makes sense. They didn't sayone thing about wins and losses, so
that makes sense. If that's thecriteria, I understand. I'm not sure.
I think you'd probably get an argumentfrom other people that have done similar
things or have changed the landscape incertain sports, and one on the process.
But he did it the way hewanted to, and he did take
(01:15:27):
college sports by storm, not justfootball, and everybody's eyes were on Boulder
for the first half of this season. They really were. Yeah, but
I don't know if that's enough towin the award. But he did and
the candidates are. So if that'sthe criteria and that's the editor in chief
making that decision, I have atit. I don't do do Would they
(01:15:49):
say who the finalists were? No? Yeah, I would imagine now if
he'd have gone eight nine and three, I think it would have been a
stone cold lock. But I thinkthey're talking about the impact regardless of the
wins and losses. Oh, there'sno question he had college football upside down
for a couple of weeks, andthen that hype went down real quick as
they started to struggle. But wekind of knew coming into the season who
(01:16:11):
was going to protect the quarterback andthat just didn't happen. All right,
de committing committing transfer portal nil.Everything going on in college football right now.
Got quarterbacks that are going to betransferring the Lord Djunga La lay Uh

(01:16:32):
Who's the one that I'm missing thatwe just heard there you go, there's
another one. Uh, I mean, there's it's it's it's going crazy right
now and it's only going to getworse come December fourth, when the when
it opens wide up. But DeionSanders spoke to the media and talked about
the players that are de committing inthe current landscape of college football. This
(01:16:56):
is what coach Sanders had to say. A kid ain't even faithful to his
girlfriend. You think he's gonna befaithful to a school? Like come on,
man, Like that's that's that's likean emotional thing. You know what
I wish the NCAA would do.Honestly, if you commit it to somewhere,
you can't go to no other visits. I wish that would be Like
(01:17:19):
if you committed, that means youcommitted, you can't go no all the
visits. So why would you becommitted? But you still letting kids go
to other places that don't make sense. So that means they just playing.
They just playing. And one thingabout it, We're not an ATM.
That's not gonna happen here. Ifyou come to Colorado to play football for
(01:17:41):
me and the Colorado Buffalo's because youreally want to play football and receive a
wonderful education and all the business stuffis gonna be handled on the back end
if that's the case. But weare not an ATM. You're not coming
here to get rich unless you reallycome here with a plan to go to
the NFL and get your degree, not to come here uh and be money
bag yo? Okay? Then awrapper right? That got double right?
(01:18:09):
I interesting? I agree with him. I agree that's what he's doing.
You heard me, Well, onceyou're there and shaduor Sanders and Hunter and
those guys are getting nil deals.Great Now, I don't know how much
of the collective, how much collectivethey have at University of Colorado where there,
I know schools that just can't keepup with that, whether Dion's Colorado
Buffaloes can or not. But I'mone hundred percent with him on a couple
(01:18:30):
fronts. One, he's got sucha great old soul, old school thinking
for a guy who can still gorecruit, Dion's got to be what sixty
pushing it mid fifties. I thinkhe's been the mid fifties where he's which
is not old, but he's gotthat ability to fifty six to relate to
(01:18:50):
a twenty year old, but alsorelate to a seventy year old. I've
said that before. I think that'sa great advantage of his because everybody knows
who he is, whether you're old, young, or in between. But
I am huge on the fact thatwe're not an ATM. We're not giving
you money to come to Colorado outof high school, that we're not promising
you that you come here and earnit. Get all the n I own
(01:19:11):
money wants you here, great, but that's not the reason. And I'm
with him too, And I've coachedplayers who've done this. You commit because
you're afraid of losing a scholarship. That's why they do it. Most that
commit early. I guess I shouldn'tsay that. I've read you've seen it
on social myth. Thank you forour twenty fifth Division one offer. Don't
(01:19:31):
tell me you've got twenty five ofthem. Nobody gives a rats ass about
your forty seven offers shot and thenit's the same like to thank the Dear
Lord for and all. I'm sograteful, And they're in a prayer stance
and they've set it to forty eightschools. But what a humble brag for
my forty eighth Division one scholarship. All the right guard who blocks for you
(01:19:54):
doesn't have one. You don't needto tell me how many scholarship offers you
got if you're a good player. Were pretty much dialed in, we know.
But thanking one school, I'm allfor it. Thank the good Lord
family all that. You should thankthem for offering you an opportunity of a
lifetime. But I can tell youin many ways, these players, they
make a commitment because they're afraid. They want to have one sewn up,
(01:20:17):
yet the teams are still recruiting. But Dion says this, He's right,
if you commit, why would youtake more if you're if you're all in,
why are you taking more recruiting visitshoping somebody offers you more? Why
you commit because you're in? They'renot all in when they commit, right,
they're kind of in. I've watchedguys that I'm so excited to be
(01:20:40):
part of this family. I can'twait. And then at the last second
they're playing in another division, They'replaying another university for whatever reason, and
that's their decision. But I'm withhim, and I would put you want
to stop it? Put a oncethey're in school. Put a just like
you do on coaches, putt puttingmoney value on it that if you transfer
(01:21:01):
after your first one, you wantto transfer again, then we have Then
you've got to pay a fee, just like you do when coaches leave.
Right, it's twenty thousand dollars.Man, that's the buyout buy on the
players. That'll limit transfer portal andit should. It's out of hand and
it's going to ruin football. It'scrazy. We got starting quarterbacks that had
great years or really good years atthe university that are leaving because oh,
(01:21:26):
I'm all in. The coaching staffis still there, but somebody else obviously
snuck in and is recruiting them behindthe scenes while they're on scholarship at another
university. That just doesn't seem rightto me. It's the easiest and most
legal form of transfer to of tampering, which shouldn't be legal. Why else
(01:21:46):
if you're the starting quarterback at OregonState now Jonathan Smith his coach left,
if your DJ okay, great,But if you're a starting quarterback and you're
the guy Riley Leonard at Duke andyou're his coach left too, okay,
so that's it still there, andI love Kurt Warner, But is this
guy thinking, oh, I wantto go closer to home. Now I've
put up numbers. Now somebody elseis recruiting me. I get that too,
but it just seems odd that you'rethinking and then they thank people on
(01:22:10):
their way out. I love this, thank you so much. I love
everything. You guys have been greatto me. You're my family. I'm
so happy that you gave me thisopportunity. But I'm leaving. Yeah,
and you're the starting quarterback. Ijust I have trouble fathoming that. Yeah.
I want to keep talking about thisbecause I've got a list of some
of the quarterbacks in college football thatare leaving, and pretty much all of
them are the starter and their coachcoach staff is still there. So then
(01:22:33):

Lema on Sports Talk seven ninety two, talking to college football here on the
(01:24:20):
Shawn Salisbury Show Transfer Transfer portal lightingup some quarterbacks entering that portal even though
they're starters. Beforegets that, let'sget to Randall seven random good morning,
(01:24:40):
Hey, good morning guys. Sean, you hit it, man. This
is destroying the game of football, but not only that. At the end
of the day, it's destroying life. These kids are going off of attraction
rather than promotion. And what Imean by promotion, it hinders them from
being promoted life. And this portalthing has to stop because what it's doing
(01:25:04):
is teaching kids how to jump fromjob to Job's teaching them how to make
bad decisions. It's teaching them howto be unstable. I mean it has
its calls and effect in many ways. Uh with this, with this football
portal thing, and these kids aregoing after money, They're not going after
(01:25:26):
education and life after football. BecauseDion I think you know, I'm not
bashing him anything. Uh. Hehe has good intentions. But if you're
gonna set the example, you haveto set that set the example where your
son don't have to drive a RoseRoyster school. These kids wearing these gold
changes and things. Uh, itis bad influence. Now I'm not saying
(01:25:49):
it's wrong to wear it, butyou have to set the standard. And
and when you when when you havea ghetto style football team, and anybody
can say whatever they want to say, but I'm looking at the truth.
We have to set the standards toteach these kids about about life. And
(01:26:09):
these kids are chasing they're chasing paper. They want to drive a Rose Royce
to school, they want to havea beautiful girlfriend. So what it's doing
is destroying everything. And Dion haveto set the standard at Cordorado and say,
look, hey, let children bechildren. And they're getting ahead of
themselves and being men before their time, and and and and and if I
(01:26:31):
was a parent, I wouldn't letmy kid go to Colorado. And the
reason why is because it's druma thereI think, so you know that's that's
contempted prior to investigation, but basedon what I see, I wouldn't allow
my child to go to Colorado becauseit's too much drama and distraction. So
if you want to be a professionalfootball player, first get your education and
(01:26:55):
let your skill lead the way.And that's why I am with football.
This portal stuff has to stop becausecollege football is being destroyed. That's why
the National Football League and Basketball Leagueis being destroyed because people are making decisions
that are not responsible enough to makethe decisions. James Harden want to go
(01:27:17):
where he want to go. Everythingis being destroyed based on what other people
want to do instead of less havingsome a chain of command, order and
standards. That's where I'm at withit. So I wouldn't allow my child
to go play for Deon Sanders atall because he has to set the standard.
He talk a good talk, andhe say some good stuff, but
(01:27:41):
you have to start with a standard, and his son have to operate in
humility. All this show boating onthe sideline and driving these fancy cars to
school, man, that's not whatit's about. Because these kids need education
and jumping from college to college itaffects their career. And then what glitter
(01:28:02):
does, glitter would turn into litter. Thank you, Thank Randall. Good
point. I you know I likeDeon, You know that I think that
he gets buy in and he doesit his way. But Randall's one hundred
correct on this is and I knowDion said from high school or not,
this is an ATM. When youcome here established yourself we'll get it on
(01:28:25):
the back end, Well, thiskid's still in school and it is hard.
You'll get some who say, well, wait a second. Now,
your kid's wearing a diamond crusted watchon the sidelines, walking off the field
after a win and pointing to itas our others, and you're driving the
rolls Royce, which I listen, everybody wants to enjoy the fruits of their
labor. And then you're saying we'renot an ATM when your son is wearing
(01:28:47):
a diamond and crust watch on afield when you're playing football, that we
don't wear watches on the field whenwe play football. I get the endorsement.
I do, so I'm with Randallof the point that that the transfer
portal and name image like this is. I don't know if ruining's too harsh,
but it's we are headed in thewrong direction football eys. I do
(01:29:10):
want the kid to be rewarded.I don't mind if the kid drives a
nice vehicle, but it's hard.Like I said, we take it serious.
We're not an ATM machine in yourson's driver, I've never seen.
This is the first player I've everseen driver rolls waste on campus and that's
okay because he's earned it and somebodygave it to him and he and with
name, image and likeness, therules allow you to do that, and
that's fine. But I understand Randall'syou know, he's committed to No,
(01:29:30):
I'm not doing it that way,and I get it. Dion's impacted a
lot of people, but he's rightthat the perception in Colorado is what it's
flash Yeah, it's flashy, flamboyant, right of course, now, Dion,
but you listen and talk, andI know this for a fact that
he is old school, old soul, substance filled. But you're also when
it comes right down to it,your five stars is going to want to
(01:29:54):
get paid and Deon's not going tobe able to turn that once he's on
campus. I am with him offcampus, and if you want to do
it, it's just that you've gotto be awfully poised at nineteen and twenty
years old and reared right and havea coach that directs you right. In
a family, it's awful to sayI'm driving a roll advents that life's good
because there's pitfalls that go along withit. I don't have a problem with
(01:30:15):
enjoying the fruits of your labor. But college football is now created where kids
I can't ever fathom starting for aplace and kick an ass, and my
coach is still there and thanking himfor being the one that wanted me,
the one Power five that wanted me, and then all of a sudden waking
up one day after a real goodseason and saying, I'm leaving you,
but thank you for all your support. I see, I don't subscribe to
(01:30:38):
that. I'm sorry. I Ah, the will coaches do it? Well,
then let's put a let's put astandard wix that too. That's exactly
right, fix that too, becauseit should be the same in my opinion.
Agreed. They can't just up andleave right Well, yeah they can't.
I mean, I know they don'tknow. What I'm saying is if
we're going to look at it,if a kid can't do it, coach
can't do it. But yet,yeah, I think I think we're way
too overboard on I think the transferand portal transfer Portland and I'll have the
(01:31:00):
right idea wrong steep, The fallis steep right now, right time,
there's no question. Let's keep talkingcollege football. Nick Saban talked about the

he spoke about a representative in thecollege football playoffs from the SEC. And
this's what coach Saban had to say, You're going to win another SEC championship.
Okay, that's goal, that'submission.I don't know if you've paid attention

to the conversation much outside of that. But if you guys go in there

Is that something you've heard? Howdo you compartmentalize that going into such a
(01:33:59):
big game, and what are youropinions on that even being a real thing
that's happening right now. Well,I think, first of all, I
haven't paid a lot of attention toit, because you know, we don't
really control that. We have nocontrol over that. We have control over
how we play, how we execute, how we prepare our team, and
that's where our focus is. Ithink there should be some representation from the
(01:34:24):
SEC, regardless of who wins thegame. Absolutely, I think this is
one of the best leagues you knowin the country. And if you're a
one loss team and you played throughthis league, I think you're one of

should be representation. KD Houston,Houston iHeart radio station, the Astros rolls

that's goal, that's the mission.I don't know if you've paid attention to

that something you've heard? How doyou compartmentalize that going into such a big
game, and what are your opinionson that even being a real thing that's
(01:36:40):
happening right now. Well, Ithink, first of all, I haven't
paid a lot of attention to itbecause we don't really control that. We
have no control over that. Wehave control over how we play, on
how we execute, how we prepareour team, and that's where our focus
is. I think there should besome repersentation from the SEC regardless of who
(01:37:01):
wins the game. Absolutely, Ithink this is one of the best leagues
you know in the country. Andif you're a one loss team and you
played through this league, I thinkyou're one of the best four teams in
the country. So there's some kindof way there should be representation, some
kind of way because of the leagueitself and the competition in the league.
(01:37:25):
So but I don't pay a lotof attention to it because we can't control
it, and I don't really wantour players to pay attention to it either.
I want them to focus on whatthey have to do to play well
and have a chance to be successfulin this game and have a chance to
win the SEC championship. That that'sthe opportunity they created for themselves. I
love that. That's Nick Saban onwith Pat mcavee and Shawnie said pretty much
(01:37:50):
that there should be an SEC teamrepresented regardless of the outcome. I'd agree
with him. Alabama beach joy.Alabama belongs in the final four. They
had one hiccup and got beat downearly in the season, which mattered.
It should count against them and itwith a So wait a minute. If
(01:38:14):
you're telling me that the one lossfor Texas was so detrimental that they shouldn't
get in, then why isn't thecommittee also rewarding Texas for the win in
September to get in? They're they'rethere, Do you get my point?
If you're going to have and Ifeel like you got to have Texas.
So we're talking about but they're talkingabout well not not the committee. They're
(01:38:39):
not saying anything about it, butpeople are speculated, well, if Alabama
wins, they shouldn't get in.Uh oh. So you're saying that the
loss in September was monumental, correct, And you just beat the three times,
the two times going for their thirdand they keep winning and dominating people.
They've been number one in the country, all that stuff. So you're
telling me that beating Georgia, whoeverybody believes is the best team in America
(01:39:03):
and has been for three straight years, that it's a detrimental to Alabama that
they got beat down by Texas, and rightfully so in September. Yet you
told me on Tuesday with your decisionson where Texas ranks in this that you
don't hold that loss or that winin high enough regard to put him ahead
(01:39:26):
of Georgia and Ohio State. Idon't understand that you're telling me that Alabama
is not good enough if they beatGeorgia because that loss to Texas is too
detrimental. Yet you're turning around andtelling me, well, in the Texas
in the scheme what Texas is doing, you sure didn't hold it in that
high regard since you put Oregon, who's got one loss, and you put
(01:39:47):
Ohio State, who's got one loss, I head of Texas. So explain
to me how that doesn't how thatworks if Alabama wins. If Alabama wins,
the truth is it should prove ift and Texas wins, it should
probably go back twelve, Big twelveSEC and Big ten and Florida State stays
(01:40:11):
home because they're they're not one ofthe four best teams and there's a chance
with the concussion thing that their backupquarterback may not be playing this weekend,
which gives Louisville Tech. Now,if you're Texas, you're Bay Now you're
begging for Georgia, go beat Alabamaand then we'll just have Louisville beat Florida
State, hopefully for them, andwe're in. So I don't trust.
(01:40:34):
See here's the way I look atit. I think that you're begging for
the committee if Alabama wins, toput two in, not have none in.
I think there's a bigger chance thatif Alabama beats Georgia that you may
get two teams in, as opposedto if Alabama beats Georgia you get no
team in somebody from the se ifGeorgia wins. Obviously, if Alabama beats
(01:40:58):
on Georgia in Atlanta this week,Alabama should be in the final four.
Now what you do with Texas, you better take into account that they beat
Alabama with the biggest road win ofthe year of the of these eight teams
that are left, I don't knowif they will. I'm not keeping Alabama
(01:41:18):
out of this national title. Ifthey go and beat the number one team
in America. If Georgia wins, everything's I guess all's good in the world
for people who are trying to fixthis without chaos. I think we're headed
for Texas deserves more respect with theirwin in September. Why we discount that
in the committee? I have noidea. So then why why are they
(01:41:38):
so high on Oregon? Well, they do have a wild hair for they
love them. They do it appears. I mean the dude, the Boo
Kerigan literally said on that college footballplayoff ranking shows, he asked, They
asked him, why are they talkedabout strength schedule for Texas and how much
hired is than Oregon? And hisresponse was, have you seen bo Nicks.
He's got a seventy percent complettion percentage. Well, then you should discount
(01:42:01):
sword and then you got to getrid of Florida State now right that you're
thinking because you're on your backup andpossibly your third quarterbacks, so let's just
discount. Then they're done according tothat thinking, I think they like it.
Dude. Let's face facts. Youhad to deal with Pennix and you
got beat but their defense sucks. When you played Caleb Williams, you beat
(01:42:21):
Utah on the road, we makeit sat Here's what what I don't agree
with that if because I'm sure inthe collag in PAC twelve and in Oregon
they're having a different conversation we arehere in Texas, they're probably saying the
Big twelve? What what what? What's the big deal about beating Kansas?
Oh so you beat the University ofHouston, That's what they're saying. On
(01:42:44):
the West. I'm just telling you, you know, in Eugene, that's
what they're saying. And you letme ask you, what's a better conference
to you if you line up ata round robin PAC twelve or Big twelve
this year? Back twelve? Sowhy isn't Why are we discounting Oregon's victories?
The eye test tells me they're oneof the four best teams in the
country. Now are they better inTexas? I didn't make that. They
(01:43:04):
didn't played and the common opponent thingthey hammered Texas Tech played them a different
time. They had to come ina close game with Texas Tech. But
you can argue that in wins Oregonwent into Utah and beat them in their
building and kicked their ass and Texashad to struggle with the team that's already
(01:43:26):
fired their coach. You could gothere too, right, So it's both.
The truth of the matter is,if Texas and Oregon win, I
think Bulls should get in. That'sme. The Florida State thing, I
am having trouble with possibly inityr thirdquarterback. I'm having trouble thinking they're one
of the four best teams in thecountry. But I'm telling you, I
don't think it's going to be oneteam that doesn't get in in a sec
I think that if Georgia loses, you're in danger a possibly two teams getting
(01:43:49):
I don't control those thirteen people inthe committee, but I can tell you
this. They if they want thefour best teams right now, tell me
how george is not one of thefour best teams if they lose thirty one
to ten out out. Yes,But I'm just telling you from a committee
standpoint, Texas, take care ofyour business. Georgia wins. All you
gotta do is hope the Louisville Beach. Florida State. Yeah, and you're
(01:44:12):
in? Do you are in?No matter what? Yeah? What are
the rumors of Florida State and theirbackup quarterback? Could he be out,
which means they would have a thirdstring play in the ACC Championship. Let's
discuss that next on Sports Talk sevenninety. But first it's time for these

(01:47:15):
acc SEC getting after it tomorrow conferenceChampionships. It's a big, big weekend
of football. And one of thethings that people are discussing this morning is
the Florida State quarterback situation. Obviously, Jordan Travis is out. They could
be on their third string quarterback withthe backup apparently dealing with some concussion issues.
(01:47:45):
Not good for Florida State me personally, and we've talked about it all
week. Florida State is not oneof the best four teams right now.
I know they're undefeated. I knowthey're playing for an ACC title, but
I just I don't think that theyare one of the top four teams.
Not without Jordan Travis. They hadJordan Travis, I would say it's a
(01:48:09):
little bit different. But Tate Radamakerthe backup. Apparently he's dealing with some
concussion issues, so that would bringon a third string quarterback. So good
luck trying to beat Louisville. FloridaState gets beat, that's gonna bode well
for Texas and Oregon. I thinkOregon's gonna beat Washington, so that'll that'll
(01:48:30):
send some That'll change things quite abit. And then also with Georgia and
Alabama, I think George is gonnatake care of business. It's just a
we could be headed for pandemonium.Joel Klatt obviously he's the lead analyst on
the Fox College coverage. Him andGus Johnson are the lead crew. He
(01:48:51):
spoke on his podcast yesterday about thesescenarios headed into the PAC twelve title game
tonight and the championship games tomorrow, and this is what Joel Clatt had to
say. Scenario one is all thefavorites win Oregon, Texas Georgia and Michigan
Florida State. In that case,we know Michigan and Georgia absolutely in no
(01:49:15):
questions asked. Then you've got threespots for all r excuse me, two
spots for three teams is what Iwas trying to say. Georgia, Michigan,
and two more spots to go.You've got three teams. You've got
Texas, You've got Florida State, you've got Oregon, all of them champs,
all of them champs. In thatcase, I'm going to tell you
(01:49:38):
what I would do if I wasin the committee room, and I'm going
to tell you what I think thecommittee will do on Sunday night. So
the first one is what my topfour would be. All the favorites win.
My top four would be number oneGeorgia, number two, Michigan,
number three, Texas, and numberfour Oregon. That's the way I would
(01:50:00):
drink them. Now, you couldmix and match. You could say,
hey, maybe Michigan one, maybeTexas four, maybe Oregon three, it
doesn't matter me. Those would beyour four. Yeah, you could say
Oregon at three and you would havea Michigan Oregon matchup, and you have
a Georgia Texas matchup. If allthe favorites won, this is the top
four that I would give you,and I would argue that in that scenario,
(01:50:24):
this is, without a doubt, the four best teams in the country.
In that scenario, without a doubt, there's no question. And again,
you can change them if you wantto, say, like, hey,
Clatt, that's crazy, like Texaswould be number four. That's fine,
that's fine. I don't really carethe slotting. Those would be the
four best teams in the country. Now, what do I think the committee
(01:50:44):
would do? The committee would goGeorgia, Michigan, and then I think
that they would go Oregon and FSU. I think they would leave Texas out,
and I do not think that thatwould be the four best teams.
Texas being left out with a roadwind over Alabama, I believe would be
(01:51:04):
a bit of a travesty. Inparticular, when one of the teams in
the playoff is missing their starting quarterback. That's a thing, and it's supposed
to be taken into consideration. Andthis is why I find it interesting that
it clearly hasn't been yet and thatthey remain in the top four. Florida
State. I'm speaking of but withoutJordan Travis, there's there's just no argument
(01:51:26):
that you can give that says thatthey are one of the four best.
That's Joel clapt That video goes onfor about another minute or so, and
we don't want to keep roll withthat. So one of the things that
he spoke about in which I agreewith, is when you look at the
best four teams in college football rightnow, regardless of rankings and all that
said and done, out of thesetop eight teams, and those top eight
(01:51:46):
teams that I'm talking about is Georgiaone, Michigan two, Washington, Washington
three, Florida State four five,Oregon, number six, Ohio State,
number seven, Texas eight, Alabama. In my opinion right now, Georgia,
Michigan, Texas, Oregon, Alabama, Ohio State, then Florida State.
(01:52:15):
I think Alabama, and again againwe talked about it yesterday, Georgia
would be favored double digit against FloridaState, Michigan double digit against Florida State.
Washington. I think Washington's there, but the way that they've played lately
has has been kind of sluggish, not very good. But they they're finding
ways to wins. But you've seenthey barely got past a tough Utah team
(01:52:39):
thirty five to twenty eight. Theysnuck out a win against Oregon State twenty
two to twenty and then it wasa late field goal against Washington State.
Yeah, rivalry game, I getit, twenty four to twenty one.
But you look at some of thesegames before that, they were boat racing
teams. Well except Arizona State thatwas a tough one fifteen to seven.
But other than that, they've they'veput up some numbers. They've be miss
(01:53:00):
in State forty one seven, theybe cal fifty nine, thirty two.
They put up thirty six against Oregon. We know that game was a really
badass game. They put up fortytwo against Stanford, fifty two against USC
They just have not played well downthe stretch, but they have continued to
win their undefeated and they're playing fora PAC twelve title. Oh, by
the way, I forgot to mentionthe Big ten title is also tomorrow.
It's gonna be a barn burner Michiganin Iowa. That perennial offense from Iowa
(01:53:28):
triple Have you ever seen Iowa play? Yeah, okay, you're not missing
anything. Never Okay, they're theretheir offense is atrocious. They may not
pass the fifty yard line. I'mnot not even joking. Oh they're they're
not good. Yeah, yeah, they're not good. A Michigan it'll probably
be like a it could be likea twenty one to nine game, something
like that. It'll be boring ashell. Yeah, I'm not looking forward
(01:53:51):
to that one. Uh No,I'll probably put some money on it though
now that I probably will, Imean, may may be honest something there.
But what Joe said, I thinkthat those would be your top four
teams, and you can make acase the way that Alabama's playing, even
though it took a miracle play theother night against Auburn in the Iron Bowl,
I would think those are the topfour teams. But the case,
(01:54:12):
you know, one of the bigdebates over the last week is for me,
like when you look at these collegfootball playoff rankings as we get to
get ready to go to break,it's like, how do you have Ohio
State ahead of Texas and Alabama? Why are they at number six? Texas
(01:54:34):
and Alabama I believe would both beatOhio State right now in my opinion,
be like a three point favorite whateverpick them game. But I just think
that the way, I just wouldn'thave Ohio State ahead of either of those
teams in Florida State, if they'regonna be playing with their thirst string quarterback
(01:54:54):
and they let's say they win,I still don't think they'd belong in the
top four. I don't care thatthey're the ACC champs if they beat Louisville,
if they're playing with the third stringquarterback, if they go into the
College Football Playoff and they play inthat semi final game with a third string
quarterback against one of the big boys, they are gonna get their ass worked.
(01:55:14):
They are, They're gonna get theirass worked, and they're gonna get
set back in real quick. Let'skeep talking college football. Let's look at
some of these championship games that areon the slate. We'll start tonight Oregon
and Washington State. We'll look atthe back twelve title game, and we'll
take your call seven one to three, two point two, five, seven
ninety. Who are the best fourteams? In your opinion? Is Texas
one of them? Oregon, Washington, Florida State, Alabama? Who do
(01:55:39):
you think should be in the topfour right now in college football? That's
next on poor Stock seven ninety,Sean Salisbury, Brian Loma. This is
the Sewn Salisbury Show I did onSports Talk seven ninety. Well, you're
(01:56:10):
listening to the Shawn Salisbury Show hereon Sports Talk seven ninety. Brian Lilima,
Emanuel Elmore, Sean doing a hitwith the Dan Patrick Show. Right
now. He'll be back with usnext segment. A little programing note,
We're gonna have NFL insider, Texansinsider Aaron Wilson. He's going to join
the show at nine fifteen to talkthe Texans matchup against the Broncos, which
is this Sunday at NRG Stadium. It's a new kickoff your University of Houston
(01:56:33):
Cougar's men's basketball team at Xavier tonight. Pack twelve title game tonight Washington,
Oregon. Then he got all thebig ones tomorrow, Big twelve, Big
ten, sec ACC Championships, Collegefootball playoffs on the line for those top
eight teams. Let's get out tothe phone line. Seven one, three,
two point two five, seven ninetyis the number to joy to talk
(01:56:55):
about this college football playoffs. Let'sgo to Scott. Scott, what's going
on. I just wanted to mentionthat if we're gonna start qualifying certain victories
by certain teams according to how muchthey won by or kicking a phild goal
in the last seconds of the game, well, at the top of that
(01:57:15):
list, no one has been handwrapped gifted of victory more than University of
Texas at their game at the Universityof Houston. And yeah, that was
an ugly win for the Longhorns, that's for sure. That can't be emphasized
enough. Just not a matter ofkicking a field goal in the last second,
(01:57:36):
they were hand gifted that victory.Yeah, we spoke about that.
Did you listen to the show yesterday, Scott, Nope. Yeah, we
hit on that pretty hard yesterday becausethere were some ugly wins for the University
of Texas, because we talked aboutsome of these late game wins, like
Alabama over Auburn last week as oneof them. Like I said, Washington's
(01:57:57):
had some ugly wins this season,Oregon as well, Ohio State, and
then we definitely hit on the Texasone. So I hear what you're saying.
Yeah, well, Alabama earned theirvictory over Auburn, ut did not
earn their victory over University of Houston. Are you a ut hater? Uh,
(01:58:19):
that's a that's a that's such aleading question to say somebody's a hater.
I mean, you know, ifwe want to get into a detailed
accounting of how they manipulate and havecontrolled things within the well, what do
you mean by that? For instance? Yeah, what do you mean by
what do you? What do you? What do you think? Uh?
(01:58:41):
Teams started abandoning the Big Twelve? What is Colorado? Missouri? They were
all getting out of there because theUniversity of Texas. What I'm saying is
University wit wait, University of Houstongained a first dance hold on Scott.
No, don't tell me to waiton you called us. Okay, so
tell me why those teams left theBig twelve? What did Texas do that
(01:59:05):
left that made them leave the BigTwelve. I'm not getting into details on
that. Now, give me someI was just mentioning that as an aside,
I call relative to the actual specificson the field this year, relative
to what gives a team credentials toearn a playoff birth or not. And
(01:59:28):
if we're qualifying teams according to well, they only kicked, they only won
the game by virtue of a lastsecond field goal or they barely squeaked out.
Well, the University of Texas wentover University of Houston was unjust and
about every facet, especially considering thatthe replay official was a UT law school
(01:59:49):
grad. Okay, so that's oneinstance that you were talking about is towards
one team? Well, okay, what other what other schools have had has
been victimized like that this year? When you say victimize, what are you
talking about? Victimize? Because theylaw that that University of Houston lost to
(02:00:09):
Texas by when I get it?When? When when the obvious spot is
short of what the actual game wasby the running back and then you have
a replay official, a UT lawschool grad. Has that been proven?
What do you mean, has itbeen proved? How do you know he's
(02:00:29):
a UT law grad? Dude,Scott, just Scott, just tell me
to hate the Longhorns. Man,It's it's fine if that's your opinion.
How you feel? Hey, hey, you If you don't know that the
replay official was a UT lost gradlaw school grad, then you missed out
on the whole story to begin with. How do you know that he was
a UT law grad? I'm askinggenuinely, Am I missing out on some
(02:00:50):
content widespread news? You're raising yourvoice and me, No one's raising voice
like I'm fabricating some story. Notdude, you're the one. You're the
one that's missing out on the realstory. No, I'm not. I
literally just genuinely asked you if that'ssomething that I missed on, and you're
getting defensive. You missed on it. You missed on it big time.
(02:01:13):
Okay, if I missed on it, then I missed out on it.
That's why I'm asking you. Iliterally just asked you, and you got
all defensive. You've been defensive sinceyou started calling this this on this show
right now. No, you gotdefensive because I held you out. You
didn't call anybody else, Scott, you called us and try to interrupt me.
Just tell us you don't like Universityof Texas, bro, you're a
boomer. Stop it. No,that's enough of that. Let's go to
(02:01:36):
Mike. Hey, Mike, didI miss out on something? Did I
miss out on the UT law gratify? Did I apologize? Let's I see
you got some proof. I don'tknow if I don't know, I don't
know what your history is or what. But if you don't know what the
University of Texas has done to breakup the conference, that's on you.
You're the sports guy. Took hiscall. Yes, they have always asked
(02:01:58):
for a bigger share the pie ina shared conference. They would often form
their own network, Yeah, theLonghorn Network without involving the rest of the
conference. They've always been a bunchof arrogance schmucks. There's no argument me
on that one, no argument onthere. I get it. So there's
your proof of why these other teamshave left. They destroyed the Southwest Conference,
(02:02:20):
they destroyed the Big twelve conference, and I don't think they're long for
the SEC. They don't belong inthe SEC, and don't give it.
They're not competitive. I'm saying they'renot SEC people. They're more they were,
well it used to be the PACtwelve. They're more a PAC twelve
company, a bunch of liberals hangingout talking bad about people who like guns
(02:02:42):
and who like the Bible, whobelieve in loyalty. They're just a different
group of people. That's all Iwanted to say, was there. So
that's why, Well, I appreciateit, Mike, That's what I asked
the previous callers just to give mesome proof, and you said, the
Longhorn Network. That's a big partof it. That's all I asked about.
And he could not give me ananswer. I brought up several different
situations where other teams in the topeight have barely gotten by anybody, and
(02:03:06):
he wanted to call in about oneinstant this season from the University of Texas.
Was my whole point wether he thatwas his, that was just his
one thing that he really knew somethingabout. Okay, And I asked him,
and I understand you're in you're you'reyou're probing, you're asking because you
want a little more proof of what'sgoing on. But yeah, that's all.
That's all I was asking years.I'm gonna say this year so far,
(02:03:28):
to me, it's been really, really tough. I mean, here,
here, let me give you ascenario. Just like you know,
I hate the scenario thing, butit's kind of interesting to do from time
to time. Let's say Alabama doesbeat Georgia. Okay, okay, are
you going to keep out? Let'ssay, are you going to keep out
the chair And you can call itwhat you want, but are you gonna
keep out the champion of the toughestfootball conference in America, Alabama. Are
you gonna do if Alabama wins,Alabama wins, if Alabama wins, or
(02:03:51):
and on top of that, areyou going to keep out the two time
defending national champions who have lost onetime? And I believe it after that
it'll be thirty two tries? Yes? Yeah, yeah, so a few
times somebody has tried to beat them, and we're not talking about just and
we're talking about week after week ofgetting everybody's best shot because they've been number
one for the longest part of thattime. Yeah, and it's it's hard
(02:04:15):
to say, what are you gonnado? Yeah, that's the question.
Yeah, appreciated, Mike. Yeah, we talked about that yesterday. Is
if Alabama does beat Georgia, howare you going to keep out the two
time national champion when they've only gotone loss and it was against number eight
Alabama in the SEC Championship, Andhow would you keep Alabama out? But
then you got to look at thewin that Texas had over Alabama. You
(02:04:36):
also got to bring in Oregon. If Michigan wins, they're an automatic And
there's so many different scenarios that couldplay out. So it's gonna be interesting
with this college Football committee. Whatare they gonna look at? Are you
really gonna keep out Nick? TheNick Saban Factor. He was already talking
about it on the Pat mcfe Show. We played the audio earlier that an
SEC representation should be in the collegefootball playoff. There's lot of just a
(02:04:59):
lot different scenarios. Crazy, man, We're headed for a if they if
if Alabama beats Georgia, there's gonnabe so much to be made of this
championship weekend. And all I'm sayingis, if you call into our show
and I ask you some questions,no one's raising their voice. Someone's getting
defensive. I'm just asking for someproof. Man. You gave me one
(02:05:20):
instance. Man, if you hatethe University of Texas, Scott, just
just own up to it. Brother, It's all we're talking about. Dude.
Appreciate our callers, even if theunit we got difference of difference of
opinion. Love it seven one three, two point two five seven ninety.
Let's keep it rolling here on TheShawn Salisbury Show. The Sewn Salisbury Show
(02:05:43):
continues on your game console. Listento Sports Talk seven ninety on any device
with our free iHeartRadio AMP. Welcomeback to the Shawn Salisbury Show here on
Sports Talk seven. I Sean,Bryan triple Ley, Hey, welcome back
Sean on Dan Patrick. Yeah, yeah, good to be back. Uh
(02:06:10):
yeah, I was what doing Dan? We had some fun talking cowboys.
He had to jump into the HeatherLockley things good. He said, Sean
told me that. He says, yeah, Sean, tell me. Then
two weeks lited, tell me again, and then two minutes later, tell
me again. Get a few beers. And I said, yeah, okay,
I got you good. Home Bysaid no, he goes, did
you make out with her? Isaid yeah, I said, I can
(02:06:31):
either confirm or to die. That'smaking out. I said, French kissing.
Said it was a good time.Dan's funny, and we talked about
I said. He said, we'retalking about c. J. Stroud real
quick, and I said, uh, I think he's as as poised as
any player. I mean he's inthat Jalen Hurts. Don't you feel like
he doesn't get flustered over anything. They were talking about the way Stroud has
(02:06:55):
gone about that he's instilled this feelingof secure. Yeah, And I said,
we mentioned him and Hurts about Poison. He goes, well, Patrick,
Mahomes may have something to say,but I said, I'd say best.
I said, when it comes toyoung Poison Mahomes, we expected.
I can tell you this Mahomes wasn'tas poised his first one is as poised
his first eight games as this guy. Yeah. When I say poised,
not that he was out of handbit. Maybe it's just that he looks bored
(02:07:18):
when he plays, and I likethat Jalen Hurts looks bored. Doesn't even
be sure. The facial expression, which to me bored, is a good
thing from a quarterback because it meansthey're under control. So you try to
stay away from hyperbolic. But Ineither confront nor deny. Okay, good
time, said Bile. Yeah,of course, no question. Yeah.
We were talking college football, andone of the things that we hit on
(02:07:40):
while you were with Dan Patrick issome of these ugly losses or excuse me,
ugly wins for teams and how thecommittee is going to look at certain
wins and things like that. Andone of the wins that we talked about
yesterday was that Texas win over UniversityHouston, which was ugly. You've h
did not get any help on ahorrible spot. Uh in that game?
(02:08:03):
And are you fighting with somebody onthe air. No, I'm not trying
to fight with anybody. I walkin and all hell's broke closely here.
All I'm saying is, if you'regoing to call in and start bringing up
one specific game and one specific instance, have some proof, Well, I
bring me some facts. And that'sall I asked him, and he couldn't
(02:08:24):
answer it. I believe, WellI don't. I didn't hear the interview
at the talk. I mean,I just walked into a storm it here.
It's like, what's going on?It's like, I think he is
it rain? And if you've throwncomputers against the TV when I watched it,
then when I watched it, walkin here, all of a sudden,
I'm thinking, well, the onething they do is there that I
know one referee lot Yeah, okay, and that what you told me?
(02:08:46):
Yeah, that's what Scott said.I just I mean I walked, Hey,
tripley, I leave the studio andit goes to hell in a hand
basket for fifteen minutes. Look cominghere, there's a broken TV. Your
closes are ripped. Yeah, yougot your I mean, what's going on
on the table in one hand. That's why I like, like my whole
(02:09:13):
thing is, it's like I've learnedit from you. When when people try
to call in and tell us theirpay work, well there's that one too,
But we we appreciate everyone's opinion. But if you're gonna tell me that
UT cheated to win, well howOh they had a UT log grat as
a replay official. That's why theydidn't go up to the booth. How
do you know that they had aUT replay official. Oh, well,
(02:09:33):
if you don't know about how Texascheats, and then that's on you.
Well what what what? And theysay, oh, well, they ruined
the Big twelve, that's why everybodyleft. Well why did they? I
asked, why did they leave?Oh, if you don't know the history,
that's on you. Well come on, dude, I'm asking you genuinely,
how did they ruin it? Hecouldn't answer it, and then he
got all loud and defensive and thentried to tell me I was defensive and
(02:09:54):
you know, and then he calledback and he was yelling at Tripoli saying,
you know, it was a biaswin for UT blah, blah blah.
But you don't want to smoke onair. It's my whole point.
It appears that he was in schoolwith the guy ut Law. He had
to be Scott. Is Scott oneof our peeps? No, no,
no, so he calls he listensman, I said, bullet fly through
(02:10:16):
it here. I'm like, yeah, it's like when that. It's like
when that, you know, overin the Middle East, when that dude
threw a shoe at President Bush, ducking and dodging. You know what I
mean, you got the Middle East, Ed Scott. All I'm saying is
just if you're gonna if you're gonnacome with something and have some facts,
don't just I don't want to hearthis biased bs, you know what I
mean. Like, that's all Iwas doing. And I asked you if
he was a UT hater. No, no, no, you can't qualify
(02:10:39):
me as a blula. But itsounds like you're a UT hater. And
if you're a UT hater, that'sfine. So then a gentleman named Mike
called in after him, and hesaid that one of the reasons why people
were leaving the Big twelve is becauseTexas went and got their own Media network,
which was the Longhoorn Network, whichI knew and I I, okay,
thank you for giving me some proof. It's all I asked for.
(02:11:00):
And you didn't get it. No, I did get I got it from
Mike. I didn't get which alreadyknew. I knew people were pissed off
about the Longhorn Network. It takesIt's not a rocket scientist to understand that,
right, and A and M wantedto go to the sec Why bigger
money, more media rights, thingslike that, better recruiting and so forth
and so on. Stopped at themoney. And it had been fine,
exactly like it. But the wholething is again, if you're gonna come
(02:11:22):
onto our show and you're gonna tellme Travis Kelsey sucks, well, why
does he suck? Well, he'sonly got four hundred yards receiving. Okay,
he's only got four hundred dards receiving. Well, is it route running?
Is it? Is it? Patrickmahomes on throwing him like, okay,
tell me something here. They'll justsay, oh, Patrick or Travis
Kelsey sucks because he went to theUniversity of Cincinnati. What Yeah, that's
(02:11:43):
why it sucks. Now, Okay, Well, that's a word on the
straight that That was my whole thing, right, That's all I was asking
for is just give me some facts, man. And it was a nice
conversation until he started getting loud forwhatever reason, saying that I got loud.
I don't get it loud. I'ma loud person. So you two
aren't tight anymore. We never weretight. Scott Can on these nuts?
You can what? Yeah, wellsay it again, saying so people to
(02:12:03):
back you Can on these nuts.Yeah. Well now I'm a little fired
up on these nuts? Are thesenuts? These on these nuts? Yeah?
All right? Man? Did youcall uh security? No? You
are no engine? Yeah? Didyou call engineering? Cup of fixed TV
that you broke because you were outof Scott No, huhuh ah. You
(02:12:24):
throw one of those dog on healthyburritles at the TV screen when I was
gone. I knocked those out insix o'clock hour, a fist fight,
second walk out. Yes, yeah, I would imagine you too, with
the hooded sweat shirt I after fightingthe guy on the air. Yeah,
I'm all about banter man, Andwe can we can disagree to you know,
(02:12:46):
amab Yeah, we can agree todisagree. It's fine, But give
me some facts. Come on herewith that fake news bs UT law grad
as the replay official tell me youhate you the University of Texas. That's
telling me the University of Texas? Is that? What it was? That?
What that was? So? Ishe a? Where did he go
to school? Is he you?U? H guy? I don't know.
(02:13:07):
He wouldn't answer it. We didn'tget that. I'm assuming he's not
an A and M guy. Wellthat's what I was assuming. That's because
he's down on UT. I don'tknow. I don't remember. Yeah,
and you want to know. SoI was doing some research, you know,
googling things to try to figure outif indeed the replay official for Texas
(02:13:28):
at Houston was a UT graduate. And you know where you know where you
can find that. You can findit at Reddit, on a college football
message board. According to reports, the replay official for Texas at Houston was
Eugene Semco UT graduate of nineteen seventyeight. But this post was deleted by
the person who originally posted it.It's just a conspiracy man on Reddit.
(02:13:54):
On Reddit, that's that's where hegot Reddit. I just read it on
Reddit. Yeah, that's what we'regoing with now, fired up in here.
Come on, man, I'll tellyou it's tough. It's like me
going to Urban Dictionary for everything.Let's just go to Reddit and get all
your news from there. Tell youwhat. Yeah, yeah, that's where
you go to get all your news. Urban Dictionary. Correct. Yeah,
(02:14:16):
it is right. And in allseriousness that spot atrocious. Texas probably shouldn't
have won that game, but theydid. And here we are. Alabama
had no business winning against Auburn, but what happened? They they got the
win. There's been ugly wins.Washington had no business beat in Arizona State
this year, they beat them. That was my point to this whole conversation
is some of these ugly wins, yet they found ways to win. But
(02:14:39):
according to the story, is towin. Yes, just win or you're
winning is I mean, that's themoral of the story. But that's the
whole object, is to try andwin. And yeah, no matter how
you do it. But I don'tknow how the committee's going to look at
that University of Houston or University ofWashington or Alabama's throw against Auburn late.
Yeah, so we'll see. Apparentlythey're not real high on Texas as it
(02:15:03):
sits today. Right, because theyallowed Oregon and Ohio State. I'm still
baffled at Ohio States ahead of them, but this extra win is going to
catapult Anybody who wins in those firsteight ahead of Ohio State's probably gonna end
up seventh or eighth in this wholetop eight. Right, and Florida State's
looking down the barrel of their thirdstring quarterback could happen, Yeah, and
(02:15:24):
it's not gonna be good unless thatkid has an out of body experience.
We've seen crazier things happen, butadvantage. I think the line is shifted
for Florida State. I'll bet youit wasn't Florida State at two and a
half point favorite or two point favorite. You said there were two and a
half. I'm gonna bet that Louisville'sclose that gap. If not, Louisville
may even be the favorite by now, let's see, you should have got
that early, right, Let's see. Let's see it's it's gone down Florida.
(02:15:46):
Florida State is now a one anda half point favorite, So it's
gone down a point. I betit'll go down before kickoff tomorrow too.
There you go, so we'll haveto see all right, let's look at

here with you this morning. NFLinsider Aaron Wilson is going to join the
show next segment to talk Texans asthey play the Broncos this Sunday at NRG
Stadium. C J. Stroud winningthe Offensive Player and Rookie Player of the
Month. Rockets Lakers Tomorrow nine thirtyThe tip off PAC twelve title game tonight
Washington, Oregon. Oregon playing extremelywell some of the games over the last
(02:20:09):
couple of weeks. For Washington, they've looked a little sluggishean? How do
you think tonight's gonna go for theDucks against the Huskies. I can't.
I can't wait to see this game. I'm pumped up for it. No,
you're not. I am. Ireally am. Because the PAC twelve's
being represented tonight and it's final ayear by the two best teams in the
(02:20:30):
PAC twelve. And that's a goodthing. Sometimes I don't think I was
one of the two best teams ina big big ten. I just don't.
They've earned it on their side. But like I said, put them
all in there and take the toptwo in Africa. That's what we should
be doing. That's just me,and I don't know how you'd work the
schedule, but that's me. SoI do this this Oregon and Washington game,
(02:20:52):
and it controls a lot. Washingtonwins, that's a slot guaranteed.
If Oregon wins, there's still gonnabe some that don't want Oregon in,
especially if you're a Texas fan ora Florida State or if Georgia loses and
you want Georgia ahead of them.To me, the winner tonight has got
an automatic berth in my opinion. If the and we know the committee loves
Oregon, we've seen it, andyou can't then people say, well,
(02:21:13):
if you can't deny a Washington teamthat's undefeated, how would you deny a
Florida State team is undefeated. Well, their first string quarterbacks still in there.
He's a Heisman finalist, and theyhave won in what is a tougher
conference to Pac twelve than the ACCand they are starting quarterbacks healthy, so
that would be part of the reason. So I think you're in for a
(02:21:35):
hell of a game. I don'tknow what the over under is, but
I think this game's in the seventiesbecause the weather will not be a factor
in Las Vegas, and at thatrate where the Raiders are playing, and
we know both these teams can scoreand score fast. I think this is
a game in the seventies and itvery well. Just like last time,
could be the guy who goes forRemember, Oregon wouldn't even we wouldn't even
(02:21:56):
be having this conversation as far ashow good Oregon is has had. Dan
Lanning decided to punt instead of goingfor it and give Michael Pennix the short
field. And I love Dan.That was a mistake. I love confidence.
That confidence was too much and itcost him with two whole shot throws
for the win right after that.So this is a hell of a game.
(02:22:18):
I can tell you this no matterwhere you go. Alabama, the
Alabama game with Georgia Florida State, and then their matchup with Louisville, Texas
and Oklahoma State, the two bestoffenses in the tournament. You'll see tonight
in Washington and Oregon, and Oregon'sdefense does not get enough credit for being
(02:22:39):
really really good. Who gets thestop? First team to forty, first
team to thirty eight? So werefirst team to forty wins? The line
gone up. Oregon now a minusten favorite over under set at sixty five
and a half. That's probably tellingyou what the sharps I mean, thead
line moving. That's a lot alot of points to give up to a
(02:23:01):
team who is undefeated, and it'sthey're not going to Eugene. They're playing
I don't know, if there's someinjury situations. No, he's got it.
Yeah, he's playing well. Imean, what are they know?
Oregon's playing better football right now?I agree, But ten points on a
neutral site, it's like they're beggingyou to take the Huskies. They are
(02:23:24):
begging you to take the Washington Huskiesin this game, which means I'm probably
gonna go bet Oregon, Michael Pennyeven at minus ten, you take them
my minus ten. I don't thinkthey're ten points better on a normal day,
but the way they're playing sure feels. And when Vegas is doing this
and the and the all that sharpmoney starts to roll in you're like,
(02:23:46):
Okay, wait a little longer andsee, because if it continues to go
that way, North Boy, they'rebegging everybody to take Washington and the smart
one probably gonna go take the overand Oregon, but it may come down
to a few stops. And rememberwhen there's this kind of pressure in a
game, you know what happens sometimesguys, guys grip a little bit and
(02:24:09):
overthrow just one touchdown pass so thatover under. Remember the last time this
was like in the mid seventies orseventy two and a half or seventy three,
I think. So they're expecting alittle bit better defense, but it's
going to be on a fast track, and it's going to be in a
good weather situation and ten points andmoving as an under as the winners in
(02:24:30):
the final four. If Washingtons arein the final four and they're ten point
dogs, it's crazy, it's crazy, they know, Like, that's what
I want to know a lot morethan we do when it comes to this.
I'm sure ten point favorites on aneutral site, but they are begging
you to take Washington, are theynot. Yeah, I just gonna say
I'm gonna take some action on Washingtonplus ten. See, I'm gonna there's
(02:24:50):
a lot of points. I'm probablyknowing this if it keeps moving, I'm
tempted to take Oregon and minus tenwith the smart with the smart betters.
Do you think Oregon would blow themout? Well, ten points is a
blow up, That's what I'm saying. You think they would actually win by
more than ten? Vegas is tellingyou. I'm saying you, then your
your your knowledge. If I didn'tlook at a point spread, yeah,
(02:25:11):
no, no idea whin to agame, I'd say this is a field
goal six point type game either way. No, I don't have confidence of
their ten point favorite. Hell no, I don't. I know that's but
am I missing something By the wayWashington's played. I like Oregon's defense more
and maybe that's the end game. But ten points that that just like even
if you're up two touchdowns and Penixhas doesn't it wreak of back to back?
(02:25:35):
I don't know, man, Idon't know. They obviously trust bow
Knicks, they trust Oregon far moreright now, or it's like one of
those you know, that could belike late game, Oregon's up fourteen,
Washington gets the ball back, theyscore again and then they try to get
the onside and they don't get itboomed that Well, there's your loss right
there, right, And what ifthat's a backdoor cover all day? And
what about too if just keep aneye on that between now and tonight,
(02:25:58):
because if it was a Saturday game, it's you got more time. But
it's a Friday game. So thesmart those guys, those those the guys
who know how to that are sharp. They they get it, that line
keeps moving that way. You youknow, they're not always right, but
I would usually side when I'm whenwhen you're in indecision and you're like,
damn, is this what's the reasonthis thing's moving like this? Yeah,
(02:26:20):
that's what I want to know.I'm gonna I'm gonna wait. And if
you if you like Washington, uh, I guess you'd probably jump on it
now and say, I'm getting doubledigits. You give me those points,
I'm taking them all day and sixtyfive and a half. I'm crushing the
over on that one. Right.I'm not a secure in an over right
now. I mean I said, the first time I think seventy points is
(02:26:41):
that I think they're gonna get there. But championship, nerves stress, silly
mistake. Put it this way,it ain't gonna be ninety. Yeah,
Vegas knows better, right, Soit's gonna be around. It's gonna be
close. And that extra touchdown thatyou're talking about in the over, because
I know amateur game. I'm notsaying you, but love the over.
(02:27:01):
That extra touchdown you're talking about theover is a double killer because that would
probably end up being the if Washingtonscored. That's the back door cover with
that and then getting the over ona late touchdown. It's going to be
hovering around there. But ten pointsseems like a lot. But Oregan's playing
pretty damn good football and their defenseis underrated. Yep, that they sure
are. C J Strout also playingsome really good football. We're going to
(02:27:22):

All right now, we're gonna talkTexans and Broncos matchup this Sunday.
Let's welcome in NFL insider Aaron Wilson. Yes, indeed Aaron Wilson on Twitter
at Aaron Wilson and you get blogsfrom here. You see him on TV,
covers the league and covers the Texansas well as anybody around. Joined
us for his weekly hit. Thanksfor adjusting your time, Aaron, let's
(02:29:48):
start here. If we were tohave Demiko Ryans go up on the board
and put priority number one defensively thisweek, what is it? Absolutely one
thing, limit the explosive plays, giving up too many big plays on defense,
and that would be priority number one, all right. So on the
(02:30:11):
other side of it, is RussWilson playing good enough to hit you with
the explosive They won five in arow. He's got twenty touchdowns, four
picks. But is he playing wellenough eye test wise to assume he's going
to close those big plays out.He can't make the plays. It's just
a matter of they affect the pocketenough to think they have a better chance
(02:30:37):
than they had last week, orTrevor Oris Cup the football out so quickly.
But they have to hit Russell Wilson. They just have to contain him.
He's the runner that can scramble andhe likes to do that. Sometimes
he's not doing as much as heused to, but he's still capable.
He's got the legs. He lostabout fifteen pounds from last season. He
looks good. And you know, the Texan this is the first time they're
(02:31:01):
gonna have a healthy secondary with allthe guys that are projected to start at
the end of the season, includingteam captain Jimmy Ward back at safety,
lining up next to Tail and Petrie, and of course she has stopped Derek
Stingland Junior and Steven Nelson out there. So this is improved, you know,
health development for the Texans, andthey've got to take advantage of that.
(02:31:22):
They've got to play better. Theygotta play cohesively, and they got
to communicate better. That's been oneof the issues that they've had with the
big plays. It's not just ohthey can't match up, No, that's
not it. I mean they hadsome issues at Nickel, they had some
pass interference penalties, but yeah, they're capable of doing it, and they
have wide receivers and Jeredjedy Cortland saidthat you have to respect especially gud speed
(02:31:48):
and sudden size. So it's notan easy matchup. It's a different kind
of matchup than last week against Jaguars. The broad of Aaron Wilson joins us
for his weekly visit here on SportsTalk seven ninety Sean Salisbrichell. The the
majority of people are going to seewhat happened with the big plays with Lawrence
four plays, those explosives that wetalk about the chunk plays and say,
man, what's wrong with the secondary? And I get it, but they
(02:32:11):
also didn't hit him much and didn'tdrag him to the ground. So doesn't
it work hand in hand? Imean, no pass rush or no pressure
at average quarterback is going to beatyou. So does that shift the narrative
this week that you become a bettersecondary with more pressure up front? How
are they going to design pressure againstRuss Wilson? So those big plays aren't
allowed to happen like they did lastweek? Right, look at by go
(02:32:33):
hand in hand and last week thedefensive line and the front seven in general,
they didn't pull up there into thebargain. They never stacked Trevor Lawrence
to the drop or what you know. They stuff to get there somehow.
They've got to disrupt. They've gotto knock down to pass at least something
barely hit him twice. So sinceyou're playing with no rush and that's why
(02:32:56):
he threw up a tree or sixtypoint yards the gold deep into line,
they got to get home. Somebody'sgot to make a play, and I
think they can. Against Denver. For whatever reason, a lot of it
had to do with Lawrence just hisinternal clock. They didn't have any rush
against them, and it wasn't likethat the first game. They hit him
(02:33:16):
a lot. I think that wasa big difference in this football game.
And as far as how do youchange it, I mean a lot of
it is just these guys are notgoing to transform themselves in one week.
They're gonna have the same moves.It's just a different effort, it's a
different energy, and you had tolearn something from what didn't work the week
before. So they're capable. Guyslike Tona think Gernard, who's gonna be
(02:33:39):
a free agent of excellent passers. You have seven sacks, he's certainly capable
getting there. Yep. Collins andso is will Anderson Junior. He's got
to finish though, and then there'stheir iffy on whether Sheldon Rankins is gonna
play. He's been working on theside. He didn't practice yesterday again,
but he's getting better. He's gonnaa little closer and we'll see if he's
out there later this morning, ifhe returns to practice. Meanwhile, Tank
(02:34:03):
Dell is looking good to go,should practice again today. Had a minor
tap injury a lot of consure thatDalton Schultz will miss this game with a
hamstring, and that's their biggest injuryquestion right now is Shultz. So they'd
have to go with Brevin Jordan andcombination Eric Salbert and possibly promote Dalton Keens.
(02:34:24):
So they've got a few injuries they'restill dealing with, but they're healthier
than they were last week, allright. Aaron Wilson joins us here.
Aaron, let me let me getI'm impressed with Bobby Sloan. Let me
get to last week, just forone second again about the play selection and
was it CJ? Was it Bobby? Was this the first read? And
I would put the ball in thehands of my quarterback as well on third
down, fourth down? I thinkhe's proven so far that he'll make good,
(02:34:46):
judicious decisions. But let me takeyou back to the fourth and one
fade route to the tight end?Was that the first read? And I
don't mind the throat, I don'tmind throwing it. I don't like the
low percentage of a tight end faderoutes for the fourth and one win.
To me, that's a first orsecond down call. Why make that call?
And how they feel about it?Yeah, he said. We asked
(02:35:11):
him about it, probably slowly cansometimes in the past he said, you
know, I would have done thisdifferent than that. Differently this time he
did not. He said, I'mputting in the hands of our quarterback,
who's, as you know, havinga record setting year. He's on pace
for five thousand yards, and everythingwas in his hands. He was the
running game. It's loss of thepassing game. They abandoned the run.
(02:35:33):
They had eleven touches for the backs, for Devin Singletary and Damian Price combined.
I thought they should have ran it. Everybody thinks that. Of course,
in retrospect, very easy the secondguess, very hard to call the
plays. But I thought they werelow percentage. Why not run it at
least once, you know, onthe third down, and then if you
want to throw it on fourth goahead. But yeah, that to me
(02:35:56):
was strange since you don't think youcan get a yard, and there's even
shorter passing plays you can try, which basically like an extended handoff to try
to get that yard. Absolutely, but again, this isn't like moment of
truth. If he has to saythis or that. I mean, everybody
can handle this press conference however theywant. That's his opinion. I think
he just shoots it straight up there. He's great with the press conferences.
(02:36:20):
I just don't think anyone agrees withhim. So yeah, he can think
definitely. They didn't make the playand now it's over, and they didn't
make the kick, and now they'regoing back with the same kick for matt
Amandola. They tried out a coupleof kickers, Brett may Or, Taylor
Roslino mayhor Is amadolea' is gonna beelevated on Saturday. They may get Kayami
(02:36:41):
Fairburn next week back from the stringquadriceps. Obviously they need him and they
need Amadola to get them through thislast game. That's the thing. That's
six points right there and the fiftyeight yard and they got to get him
closer. There's no way they shouldbe kicking. So they're bringing out bringing
Amadola back to kick again this weekendafter trying people out. Thought he was
(02:37:01):
going to be out, brought himback. Okay, he's back under contract.
He practiced Wednesday, Thursday, he'llpractice against today and they walk through
tomorrow. He's on the practice squadback after they cut him from the fifty
three procedurally, and so now he'llgo up tomorrow, they'll elevate him officially.
They don't usually do it on Fridays. They'll do it tomorrow and then
(02:37:22):
he will kick for them, andthis could be his last week here,
as Fairburn is ready to go tolook for a kicking change in the next
week. But this is a hugegame. I mean, there's so many
playoff stakes for this one. Theyreally need this game and they're facing a
broncosen it's red hot on a fivegame winning straight. So this look tough,
(02:37:43):
tough matchup, and I think Avandolacan make the kicks, shorter kicks,
but he is three for six. He's missed his last three kicks since
going three for three and winning thegame in Cincinnati. So they got to,
you know, special teams. It'spart of it too. They've got
to up there into the bargain. And then when you look at offense,
defense, you know, since we'vediscussed, I think it's going to take
(02:38:07):
all three elements to beat a verygood Broncos team that's so well coached by
Sean Payton, who should probably bein the Coach of the Year conversation for
leaving him on this resurgent thing ifthey want up making the playoffs, which
they could, and he's got tobe in that conversation just like Dnika Ryans
because they're both doing a great job. Yep. Thirty seconds, my man.
What we talked about all the greatthings that they're doing this year,
(02:38:31):
and you know, they've lost somegames, but they've won some against some
plus five hundred teams. What isthe biggest in that in that locker room
or in that meeting room. What'sthe biggest been the biggest issue on this
team this year? What's the biggestdisappointment for the Texans? Uh? You
know, heading towards Week thirteen, there's many good things that happened, Sean.
(02:38:52):
They are an inconsistent football team, different problems every single week. In
most cases is there's been something thatcould have been a lot better. And
when they start playing consistent football, that's when I think they'll turn the corner
and they'll be a division champion andthey'll be a playoff team. All those
good things. They're way ahead ofthe curve of where they were expected to
(02:39:15):
be. But now the expectations havechanged, and I just think, you
know, some guys it's a performancebusiness, and that's even been communicated to
the players. They will start changingguys out. You'll start seeing lineup changes
with this team in the very nearfuture. If guys don't perform, I
can expect some changes that they expect. They expect guys, They're holding them
(02:39:39):
to a higher standard. Right now, I can tell you that this coaching
staff do. They expect better andthat's a great sign of progress. Right
You've been on teams before showing, you know, expectation how low. Maybe
somethings slide. Not at all. Here now they expect and it's a very
demanding environment, which is good. That's what players want. They want to
be coach card and that's what theyare people. Ryans. He wants more
(02:40:00):
from these guys aside from talent. The two biggest reasons this team has turned
it around and will turn it aroundquicker and be in playoff talks again next
year is the head coach's accountability he'sputting on this organization and the quarterback's poised
through good and difficult circumstances. Bothof them you can feed off great stuff.
Brother, This is a huge monstergame, yep. I look forward
(02:40:22):
to it and We'll look forward tonext week, my man. Thanks,
thanks, I appreciate you. That'sgreat. Aaron Wilson will come on back
and discuss these Texans and for thesame page, inconsistencies but prevent the big
play. But that's just not onthe secondary. Got to generate more pressure
with four and possibly five upfront SportsTalk seven ninety how much Dillard saying back
(02:40:43):
to the Sean Salisbury show up ourweekly visit with NFL insideer Aaron Wilson.
If you miss it'll be up onthe blog after the show US for seven
(02:41:03):
ninety dot com. What do youthink the Texans will be ranked? If
Sheldon has a good game this week? Oh? Sheldon Rinkins? See,
uh, you got it? Yougot it? Yeah? I see what's
up with Al on the south side? Al, what's happening? Thanks for
holding man? Yeah, what's goingon? Guys? Great Friday. Hey,
(02:41:24):
Sean man, you you you hitit on the head with all Wilson
and I want to hear your thoughtson this because I was thinking the same
thing when you hit it in anuts here when you evaluated and said what
would are they are going into theseason, the biggest issue they have and
Uh mentioned was consistency, But Seanthe man and you mentioned it to Hi
(02:41:48):
accountability with the coaching and Demiko holdsthem to a high spirit. And I
get all that. And at theend of the day, Sean, we
know the players got to make place. But Sean, I know sometimes in
the game and you can allude tothis here, Shun and get what I'm
saying. If you can make theright call, and I know CJ.
Strotter's rookie and the Miko Ran isthe head coach, and you tell your
(02:42:11):
quarterback to run the ball with thirtyone, that's what we're playing organized football.
This ain't playing. This is thewhistle would play calling and organized ball,
and that's the play we're gonna callit. That's the play we're gonna
run. Now. I just believe, Sean, sometimes coaches have a lot
to do with the players in theway that they come out on the end
of a game. And I justbelieve so far, Shun the mik o'rians.
(02:42:35):
Maybe Bobby Floyd has kind of steveminus to play calling because I believe
these players is a lot better andthe wins could be a lot more a
couple of more games and it alwayscame down you know the games, A
aus is real close, a playcall wrong here and there. Management and
I just like to speak to thatbous because the Miko' Ryan and by the
floor to me, Sean, theyblewe last game all right? Let me
(02:42:58):
ask you a question. Let meask a question real quick. You're a
huge fan. What did you expectfrom this team going in this year?
Tell me tell me what you thoughtabout him before before the season started.
Well, I wasn't a guy whoput me in a Super Bowl shunk.
To be honest with you, Ijust felt like with the hiring of Demico
(02:43:18):
Ryan and I wanted to see formy eyes from game one and I wanted
to evaluate them weekend and we gotlike we should do just evaluation, no
knock on them or whatever. Butwith the experience I know Demiko Ryan coming
into a head coach and taking overthe deepens responsibility young that's a huge ass.
(02:43:39):
Would you agree, Oh, there'sno question. I'm a big believer.
I normally don't like the head coachdoing both. I just know the
lessons Andy Reids, especially a rookiehead coach. But I get it because
that's it's hard to let go ofthat, because that's why you got the
job in the first place. Greatleadership and because you're used to it.
I'll i'll finish answering your question. So thank you. Great point by you,
(02:44:00):
and I get it. I'm justI was curious with Al because he
obviously watches every snap every week ona regular basis. Is what were It's
amazing and not just Al, butall of us. Think about how when
I was on Dan's show today,he said, would you if I'd have
told you that the Texans would bein the playoff hunt in December, would
you have believed that? I said, hell no. But look how it's
(02:44:20):
even with Al who said we evaluateeach game. We are now at where
they at six and five, sixand six, six and five, six
and five, right because they've alreadyhad their bye week. Think about the
expectations and during a season we havecompletely shifted our paradigms on the expectations of
the team. If I'd have toldyou they're going to win six to seven
games when the season started with arookie quarterback, rookie head coach, rookie
(02:44:41):
offensive coordinator, I'd been hard pressedto have you tell me that that's well
that's that's not good enough. Youjust said that's that's really good. That's
double the wins. That's headed inthe right direction. And then if I'd
have said, oh, by theway, that you're going to start to
see him, they'll be in threeor four other games, they'll be playoff
contention in December. The quarterback isgoing to be the offensive rookie the year.
(02:45:03):
You just said, damn, thisis special. So it's me that's
a good thing from the Texans becausethey've increased our expectations during the year,
not just preseason. We had higherexpectation, but not this high. I
didn't, so I get Al's point. I'm not. I always have a
hard time when it comes to theexecution of an x as and o's play
blaming just the coach. Now whenit comes to why'd you run it on
(02:45:26):
fourth down? Why'd you call atime out there? Why didn't you?
I thought the use of timeouts lastweek was bad. I thought that was
one of the worst things they didlast week, giving up the big play
with no pressure on the field.I thought that it was the worst handling
of timeouts the Texans have had thisyear, in my opinion, But everybody
takes the responsibility. I would notif I was Bobby Slok suggests this week
(02:45:48):
on fourth and one, throwing afade route to the tight end. I
would on second down think with thatmismatch, I would try to give me
a little high percentage get the completion. Let's take more viable shots than that.
But that's why he's got that playsheet in his hand and calling the
place. I trust him. Ithink he's done a hell of a job
this year. But we're going tojudge them December. That's the Dan.
(02:46:11):
You're going to judge Prescott in December. You're going to judge the Texans in
December, and then if they're fortunateenough to get to January, we're going
to find out if they got theballs to get to February whoever that is.
So they're in position, this isa I must win. It sounds
so like cliche, yeah, andit just sounds like it's ultimatum stuff,
But the truth is, if youwant to have a legitimate shot to get
(02:46:35):
in, you need this victory. It's huge. Yeah, you talked about
those timeouts. How about a twelvemin on the field time out that last
game? You can't do it now? Is that not on the special teams
coach or the offense or defense orwhoever you know, whenever those type of
things happen, getting their right guyin. But I shouldn't have to have
a coach tell me now. Thatusually gets messed up when a guy gets
(02:46:56):
hurt and doesn't go back out thereand they forget to tell the backup that
you're up. If he can't go, just be prepared to stand on the
sidelines. We go in ban beready. So it is a reminder situation
for the coaching staff. But asa player, you're asked to be paying
attention the whole time on the backup. I'm in or I'm I'm not in
because we got the eleven guys thecommunication. That's why we have sideline communication.
(02:47:18):
Get it done. Those to meare inexcusable, inexcusable penalties and or
happen to use the time out becauseyou're screwed it up. You can't do
that coaching staff or players. I'venever understood how a guy's not standing up.
What are you doing that would forceyou to get on the field or
out there that you're not communicating thisis your job, right. I've never
(02:47:39):
understood there's a few rules. There'sa few penalties or situations. If you're
the right guard on the on theon the on the extra point, well
why aren't you out there? I'mjust using that as an example. Or
if you're the you know, thethe gunner, well why aren't you out
there when it's your time? Andif it's not, you make sure you
grab your backup by the nap ofthe neck and I can't go in my
(02:48:01):
Hamstringser, tell cot you're in,next you're up. I don't understand why
we don't communicate it and they endup costing people over the long haul.
Demico will get that fixed. Yeah, you know what they tell each other.
Let them cook their Next up isnext up is next to Norfleet's up.
Next is along with Chris Cordy righton, next up, next up?
Yeah? See boom, unbelievable. You ready to make some picks for
(02:48:26):
these uh championship weekend? Yeah, championship weekend and I'm waiting on tonight's game.
I'm ready. Do you want meto kick your ass a good no?
No, no, no no no, not like not like picks,
Like we're just gonna like collaborate collaboration, correct, Yeah, this guy like,
next thing, you know, youknow you have a hog on your
(02:48:46):
head. Next thing, you know, nuts swinging by it? Yeah right,
right right, you're hearing that onyour forehead. No, that's you.
You're the one that keeps bringing itup. You mustn't know. I
just say, guys being dudes. That's a little different sound then something hitting
my forehead. But you know,I digress. But we're going to collaborate
on some music. Correct, That'swhat's collaboration, and then we're going to
give the best motivational speech possible forthe Texans as well. Is it jamis?
(02:49:11):
No, it could be football timein Texas. Who knows one of
the worst ever. Let's let's getto uh this championship weekend college football and
some of these NFL games next onSports Fox seven eighty. This is the
Sean Salisbury Show. Are you notas tame? Let's begin now alcohol,
Yeah. Go on Sports Talk sevenninety final segment on a Friday morning.
(02:50:01):
Here, I'm a Shawn Salisbury Show, Sean Brown and Triple League. A
full slate of football games this weekend. Let's make some picks. Let's look
at him less, Shawn scared?Come on, Matt you no better than
that. All right, let's startin college football championship weekend. Are you
(02:50:26):
picking spread or just victory? Justvictories? Victories? That's a weak ass
way out. New Mexico State atLiberty or you're you're serious? Huh?
How about how about New Mexico Statethough, dude, it's the conference state
championship. How about New Mexico State? Though? Right there? You know
where that's school is located? Isit Las Crusis? Yeah? D by
(02:50:48):
it every time you right there, right after you get at l Pass,
so you go through Last Cruci, you think, now there's where that school
is playing for the conference championship.Yeah, we used to be it's been
a minute, as they say,did a minute. We used to play
them in non conference in baseball. You get your college. Oh yeah,
they beat the brakes off of us. There you go. Uh, I'm
taking I'm riding, I'm riding thepony. Liberty gets upset. Really,
(02:51:11):
Liberty is gonna win. But yousure, what's they doubled? What's the
what's the spread? Eleven? Yeah? Yeah, I'd take New Mexico State.
You know what you're gonna everybody's gonnatake Liberty. Give me New Mexico
State. Okay, it's the realjugsy pick. Yeah, give me New
Mexico State. All right, conferenceanything can happen. Pack the records.
Pack twelve Title game tonight, OregonWashington, seven o'clock kickoff, Allegiant Stadium,
(02:51:37):
Las Vegas, Nevada. Give meOregon, Yes, sir, give
me Oregon. Oh you gonna pick? Are you just gonna sit there and
act like you don't pick? I'mjust hosting. Oh that's how we're doing
it now. No, I'm gonnatake uh Washington. No, I'm gonna
take Oregon. I think Oregon's playingreally good football. All right. First
one tomorrow morning, Big twelve Titlegame, Oklahoma State at text Well,
(02:51:58):
Oklahoma State, Texas, gimme andor State in an offset. I'm serious,
what ol Cloba State beats him?Come on, Ocloba State beats him?
No, it says all for tripleE. I'm giving triple E love.
Yeah, there's still Clomba State ina route to win by twenty.
Okay, I'm kidding. I gotTexas closer than you think. As my
(02:52:22):
guy Lee Corse would say, notso fast, my friend, yep,
and he'll go like this, He'llput his finger. He'll go closer than
you think. I'm taking Texas.Yeah, Texas will win that game.
All right. Let's look at theMAC championship. Miami of Ohio at Toledo.
Give me the Mac Daddy Miami.I gave a speech at Miami of
(02:52:43):
Ohio once I did the Red Hawk. Yep, give me the RedHawks in
this one. If I'm affiliated withthe school in any way, give me
them. I'm taking. I thinkthat's in Oxford, Ohio. I mean
not the game, but that's whereMiami of Ohio is. Yep. Gave
a speech there long time. I'mgonna go there. Give me Miami of
Ohio. Good for the Mac.They're getting to play at Ford Field in
(02:53:05):
Detroit. Yep, Mac Daddy.Eleven am kickoff Georgia and Alabama sec title.
I'm gonna have to go. Firstof all, I love that both
teams have quarterbacks that were home built. They didn't get a transfer portal guy.
These guys stuck it out. Milroe, who's talented, could have gone
(02:53:28):
somewhere else. Carson Beck dealt withit with quarterbacks in front of him.
Highly recruited guys stuck it out,and now they're playing in an opportunity,
with an opportunity to go to theFinal four. I like that didn't have
to go grab some dude out ofthe transfer portal. They took the guys
they recruited, and they have gotplayers, and I love it. Give
(02:53:48):
me Georgia and a closer one thanyou think. I'm taking Georgia as well,
inside a touchdown Big Ten title,Michigan Iowa. Michigan's a twenty two
point favorite. Yeah, give memission. This is like to me,
like twenty seven to six. Giveme Michigan. I don't think this is
close. I just don't think itmay be. It may be fourteen to
three. I just don't think Iowacan score. No, they can't.
(02:54:13):
They may not score. Yeah, they may not score in this game.
Give me Michigan in a in athat's it feels like an easy pick for
me. Louisville, Florida State Louisville, and I actually think Louisville is gonna
beat him up pretty good. Oneand a half point favorite. As for
it, I got it by atouchdown or more. Yeah, gimme Florida.
I'm sorry. Give me Louisville aswell, especially if actually doesn't even
(02:54:33):
matter. I think Louisville is gonnawin regardless. All right, let's look
over in the NFL. There's somethere's some really good matchups this weekend.
Let's start obviously, start right here, Denver in Houston. I'm not feeling
overlyas confident about the Texans in thisgame right now. I feel like it's
gonna be a hard fought, brutalI think they're gonna win, but it
(02:54:56):
may take the poise of that youngman and make another play. They're gonna
have to do a few things.Different pressure the quarterback would be nice.
I'm gonna take I'm gonna take theTexans, but I'm not. This isn't
a no brainer for me. Ithink the Denver Broncos are starting to prove
that they're more real than we eventhought they would have for five straight wins.
I like the Texans in this butif you turn it, if you
(02:55:18):
give up the plays you gave uplast week, you won't win. Give
me the Texans, though, I'mtaking the Texans as well. Uh,
San Francisco at Philadelphia. I canbe picking Denver if it was in Denver's
building. San Francisco at Philadelphia inPhiladelphia and the forty nine Ers are three
point favorite. I'm taking the fortynine ers to win on the road.
Wow, I'm taking the forty nineers to win on the road. Even
(02:55:39):
though I think Philadelphia is the bestteam in football. I'm the emotional game
against Buffalo. I'm talking about whereyou had to extend a lot of energy.
I'm gonna I think San Francisco goin there and win the game.
And I think this is a rematchof the Final Four. And the Cowboys
and Lions may disagree, but Ithink the two best teams in the NFC
(02:56:01):
Championship game. This is just givingus a preview of what it's like.
I think it'll be a close one. I think both these teams handle December.
Just fine, give me San Franciscoon the road in this one.
It's too easy to pick Philadelphia inthis one. Yeah, it's crazy to
me that Philadelphia is an underdog athome San Francisco. When you see a
(02:56:22):
line likely, you better ask questions. Bright right, Another interesting note here
in the NFL. Do you knowwho might start for the Cleveland Browns at
quarterback? Flaco Joe Flacco, JoeBroadway Broadway Joe. Yeah, I got
that. Nice five o'clock shadow workingfor him. You gotta love Jolton,
Joe Joelton, Joe flaccoh yeah, yeah, wow. He'll probably throw a
(02:56:43):
party on him. I can alreadytell you what his numbers are going to
look like if he starts, whatis it. It'd be like fifteen to
twenty four, sixteen to twenty seven, about one ninety eight to two twenty
and he'll throw two touchdowns and onepick probably. That's what it's gonna look
(02:57:03):
like for Flacco, and I don'thate him for it, but that's kind
of what I'm visual My visual isof Flacco's performance. Who they play the
Los Angeles Rams. Yeah, andit'll be good enough for a win too,
they'll beat the Rams. Okay, here's my last one. Kansas City
at green Bay, green Bay,coming off of a big win on Thanksgiving.
(02:57:24):
I saw on one of these nationalshows that they were taking Green Bay
to upset Kansas City. Green Bayand Kansas City in Yeah, get me
my homes. I'll take. I'lltake Kansas City. They're better if if
Taylor Swift is in the house andKansas City is definitely gonna win. Some
would argue, some would say Kelsey'snot at his best one swift he is
(02:57:46):
in the house when no, no, no, when she's not in the
house. I thought that because they'vebeen dating, haven't his his performance gone
down? Yeah? Just so Idon't just a hunch, just let this,
let them enjoy each other, right, Probably a little Chili and Green
Bay this week, give me theChiefs. But probably maybe a little stress
in the game. Yeah, maybeyou got to labor a little more than
(02:58:07):
you want to. Mm hmm.Maybe a defense key, how about a
defensive touchdown for Kansas City this week? There we go. I got them
on my fantasy team, so thereyou go. Well, there you go.
I need it weeks over in it. It is so truly just starting
because we got a big football weekend, Big one, big one, can't
wait. Hopefully there's no ut gradsfor replay officials in the big twelve tottle
(02:58:28):
match. Get out to spindle tapfor that, build that dog on gingerbread
house, tend to two to themon Sunday. Go out there and have
yourself some fun, watch the gamewhile you're there. There you go.
Great week, fellas, enjoy theweekend in a huge weekend of football ahead
of us starting tonight, Pack twelvetitle game. He is Sean Salisbury.
