The Houston Astro Thing. This exclusiveAstros segment on Sports Talks Other ninety's brought
to you by Exfinity ten G,the Next Generation Network. Yes, let's
go, Hey, let's go,guys. All right, it's that time
of the week. Astro's General ManagerDana Brown joins us here on the Sean

(00:23):
Salisbury Show. Sure does. Gratefulto have Astro's GM Dana Brown, as
he does weekly here on Wednesdays atnine thirty, join us and talk Astros
Baseball. Dana to have you in. Let's start with some good stuff Hunter
Brown. While it took a secondto settle in, did you said he's
got all the stuff to be thatthird horse in this rotation when you're thinking

(00:45):
down the line and settle in andgot you deep. So those that's a
good thing to do at a timewhen it's much needed, no doubt,
guys. You know Brown has powerstuff, There's make no mistake about it.
Sometimes he'll get away from his fastballa little bit, but he settled
in and through an outstanding game lastnight. The double players helped out a

(01:10):
ton, but at the end ofthe day, he had good stuff last
night and stepped it up with sevenstrong innings. He sure did, and
with the curveball too, mixed itin a little more with mild Nato.
Last night, you mentioned that overpoweringfastball he has. I would imagine you
liked seeing him throw that curveball forstrikes and getting people out as well.
Though, Yeah, I do.I just like when you when you established

(01:34):
that fastball. I mean, he'sup to ninety nine last night, right,
And sometimes we give we give thehitters too much credit. And when
you have that good of a fastball, I mean, you have a good
defense behind you, you can poundthat fastball. It's gonna make the secondary
stuff even better. So he wasoutstanding. Um, he stepped it up
for us. It was a big, big one. H Dana Brown asks

(02:00):
Jim joins us here for his weeklyvisit on Sports Talk seven ninety You told
us, and it started. Andthe power is starting to come back,
even though it's not where it wantsto be. But he's hitting the ball
a couple hits last night, gettingwarmer. Are you seeing anything different in
a Brave's approach to his success?Yeah? So what I would say is,

(02:23):
you know, as I mentioned before, when you look on the back
of this guy's baseball card. Imean it's over an eight hundred ops for
his career. I felt like hewas going to start heating up. We've
been excited that he's eating up.I know early on he was swinging at
some pitches that were far in offthe plate. He's starting to take those
pitches now, he's driving the ballthe other way, and you know,

(02:46):
when he's getting a chance to pullthe ball, you know he's turning on
it. So I think the combinationof taking pitches that are too far in
off the plate and trying to dotoo much with that. He's taking those
pitches now and he's using the wholefield. Hit a home run out to
right field, pull the home runin Cleveland. Uh So, I think
he's starting to really feel it andheat up, and we're gonna need him,

(03:09):
especially with you know, urd Onbeing out well. That leads me
to Jordan. Dusty had said,Jordan quote is a ways away. What
does that mean? Yeah, SoI think what the deal is, it's
gonna sometimes you know, with theseoblique injuries, they're very tricky, and

(03:30):
I think it's gonna take at leasttwo weeks for us to you know,
get a feel for how it's healing. How does he feel? And so
you know, you take those twoweeks and then another week to figure out
like when he starts to have someactivity, Okay, how how's his body
responding? And so you know that'sthat's three weeks right there, and so

(03:53):
you're looking at you know, oncehe starts to swing a bat, maybe
it's it's four weeks or so.So um, and that feels like eternity
with a guy like you're Adar.I mean, he's such a good hitter
and he's such a big piece ofour lineup, so you know, maybe
for Dusky it feels like an eternity, but you know, you know,

(04:14):
we feel comfortable that you know,he'll hell or he'll get back, and
we'll get him back as soon aswe can. We just don't want to
rush it because these are bleak injuriesare very very difficult, and the worst
thing you could do is miss threefour weeks and then rush back and then
end up missing another three weeks. So we don't want to do that.
We rather for it to completely healand get him back for the duration of

(04:36):
the season. Yeah, and aspecial player like him, So in truth,
Dana, I mean not in truth. But really, and we're looking
at this, we're thinking mid tolate July or the beginning of August to
get him full back if things goas scheduled. Is that fair? No,

(04:56):
I don't think that's fair. Ijust think, you know, I
think we'll know more. It's toughto put a timeline on this, um,
right, you know, it couldbe it could be four weeks.
You know, he could rush up. Um, he could start healing,
and you know what if he's doingsome activity in three weeks and then um,
you know a few you know games, he could be back in the

(05:19):
big leagues. So, UM,I don't I don't want to put a
timeline on this. I just Iwant him to get healed. And you
know, we talk every week,so you guys will get some updates from
me. Um, But let's let'ssee what it looks like after you know,
ten days and and and see howhe's healing, because we'll we'll know

(05:40):
a lot, you know, becausewe'll know how he feels, you know,
as he's starting to heal. Andso we'll keep you guys for sure.
Perfect Astro's GM Dana Brown for hisweekly visit here on Sports Talk seven
ninety Dan I know you hated toowere it feels like I don't we want
to talk x as at those andhow we're driving the baseball. But injuries

(06:00):
have become such a big part ofthis team this year and guys like Dubon
and the ability to overcome them andstay afloat, which is impressive being three
and a half games out of firstplace. But let's get to a guy
who hasn't pitched this year? IsLance mccolor is going to pitch in an
Astro's uniform this year. Yeah,so when it comes to Lance, we
have a update that we're going toshare this afternoon. Um. You know,

(06:26):
I'm gonna get with you know, our our trainer and we're going to
talk things through and you know, just as to you know how how we
going to break this down. Butwe'll we'll update everyone today so the next
time we talk, you know,we can really dig deeper into it.

(06:46):
Um. But we're coming out withsomething this afternoon that we're going to be
able to share with everyone. Okay, I won't speculate that as bad news,
so hopefully we'll get something, butwe'll be able to discuss it next
week and we'll hear and that'll bethis afternoon, you said, Dana,
when we get a chance to hearabout that. Yes, sir, okay,
to Michael Brantley, we go.I know he was out on the

(07:09):
field doing some things yesterday, nothitting, but you know, throwing a
ball even though it's the opposite shoulder. Were we with him? Yeah?
Excited about Michael because and as yousaid, everyone's going to start to see
him with more activity on the field. He is feeling really good. There's
no pain, he's throwing, he'shitting, and so, um, we

(07:33):
feel really good about Michael right now. He's in a good space. Uh,
and we're gonna, you know, start increasing the activity and you know,
and he's doing okay. So that'sthat Michael. Man. I'm excited.
He's worked his tail off and youknow, we we can definitely use
him as soon as possible and howand as soon as possible do we have

(07:57):
I know you don't want to puta time frame on this either, but
as soon as possible, do wehave any like within weeks? Are we
closer? I mean, where's thatHow big is that light at the end
of the tunnel? Yeah, Ithink it's pretty big, because you know,
once we increase this activity, youknow, we'll no more. But
the beauty of Michael right now is, uh, he's feeling no pain.

(08:20):
He's actually running, he's actually throwing, he's actually hitting, and so I
mean that's that's pretty good news. So, um, well we'll know more
as we increase this activity with him, and uh, you know we'll be
able to share more. But youknow, he's got a smile on his
face right now, and I thinkthat's a good side all right now.

(08:41):
With Jeremy Painia been out with youknow, sick the last couple of days.
When can we expect him back inthe lineup. Yeah, he should
be back in the lineup tonight.Um. You know, this is just
one of those cases where you know, we all have you know, we
run into a cold and you geta little sick and you get weak and
um, you know, but he'sgoing to be back tonight. We thought,

(09:05):
you know, there was a chancehe could have played yesterday, but
you know, Dusty said, youknow what, let's hold him out one
more day. Um, and youknow, thank God for dubonn he's been
really good for us this year. But we think Pinie will be back in
the lineup tonight. Like I said, I think he could have started last
night, but getting the extra day, you know, you know it doesn't

(09:26):
hurt. And like I said,Dubon has been playing so well, Uh,
we felt confident that we could givehim an extra day and then so
we'll be back in there tonight. You know, Danny, you make a
good point, one of them.My coach Brian had asked me earlier before
you came on, about where willwe be without Mauricio Dubon, And I
don't think any of us thought atthe beginning of the season we'd be saying

(09:48):
that now a good player and aguy who's going to be filling in at
other places, but without two dayout. I mean, aside from Jordan,
I can make the argument a legitimateone. He's been as consistent in
his the players we've had on thisteam, and nobody would have expected him
to be able to do all thison a daily basis or expected it that

(10:09):
he's done. And he has beena kind of a quiet MVP for you
guys. Yeah, you know thepart of the way I gauge, uh,
you know, the players, it'slike, you know, as an
evaluator, I say, can Iactually watch this every night, you know,
and he's played so well that youknow you don't mind watching him every

(10:31):
night. You know, he's alwaysdoing something. If it's it's if it's
an unbelievable play up the middle,a dapper, you know, a stolen
base, a home run like lastnight. Honestly, I can watch it,
and when I can watch it,I get excited about it. And
usually when I can watch it,it means good things because you know,

(10:52):
if if I can watch it,I'm excited about it. So he's been
really really good for us. He'sfilled in multiple places. And I'm telling
you, when you have a guylike that, you know, sometimes they
fly under the radar because they're notthe you know, the big aircraft carrier
on the club. But you know, when you get that type of production
from one of your extra players, you know it's it's it's well worth,

(11:18):
you know, a good handshake andfish pump when you see him each night
in the locker room, no questionabout it. And Dane, I'll leave
you with this, And it's notbecause of injuries or because of performance or
just this year. I'm talking aboutany year You've been in baseball so long.
I'm just kind of curious, what'sthe toughest focus month for a baseball
club, you know, throughout becausethe dog days of summer, or you're

(11:41):
in it, or you're up byten games or you're down by ten games,
that you're saying, what is usuallythe toughest month so guys stay focused
on the job. Is there onein particular? Yeah, I think it's,
uh, you know, the endof July and through the month of
August, because you have the dogthe summer coming in as as strong as

(12:01):
it is with the weather being sohot, and then you have the real
evidence of the postseason and where youare, where you are in the standings,
and so that pressure and then youstart thinking about, you know,
how important these games are each night, you know, and you're just struggling

(12:24):
because it's such a long season.You know, physically you're a little tired,
and so yeah, at the endof July, you know, early
August and Drew August, it's reallytough. You get to September, you
start to feel like the finish lineis there. But like I said,
in August and that month of Augustwhen it's really hot and your body's tired
and the games mean so much andyou're really looking at the standings every day.

(12:48):
That's when it's that's when it's thepressures. It's high. Yeah,
health and depth will be very, very important for this club then, but
this club has responded to adversity manytimes of it, the last time a
dozen years. Dana, it's alwaysa pleasure. Good luck with the mc
coulors announcement, whatever news we're gonnahear today, and we always appreciate your
Wednesday visit, and we'll look forwardto more discussion, hopefully more XS and

(13:09):
o's and less injuries as we rollforward. Thank you, sir. Amen,
let's go get them. You gotit, appreciate it. That's great
Dana Brown mc colors talk today.I think most of us probably wouldn't expect
great news from this, but Danaand the trainers will handle it and we'll
hear about that today. So youwill get mc colors news today and we'll
come back and discuss your Don mccolors and Dana Brown and his conversation with

(13:35):
