The Jean Salisbury Show continues. Youknow, Emmitt Smith, I'm sure when
you're the all time leading rusher, people want to talk to you a Super
Bowl champion, that that maybe they'rea little delay. Well, we understand
that's how radio road goes. That'swhat we've talked about all week. No
problem. So way Emmitt Smith, who has been coming as a guest on
Super Bowl Week every year for abouta decade. For me, so the
last time you went to radio rowhere with seven ninety was what a couple

(00:25):
of years ago, were in Miami, went to Miami? What came first?
Atlanta or Miami? Which one?Was it Miami or Atlanta? Which
one? Let's see, I can'tremember. I'm gonna say maybe Atlanta was
second? Was it was Atlanta? The was Miami first? In Atlanta second?
Since we've been here the last one, it was one of the two
places, the atl hot Lanta asthey'd like to call it, or moon

(00:50):
over Miammi. Moon's over my HAAMMI. Let's see Tampa. That was the
COVID season and then the twenty fortynine or where was that game at?
I don't know. Just tell methe last Super Bowl in Miami and last
one in Atlanta. Hey, don'tbe I don't need to know any of

(01:10):
My question is when you all wentdown there, you know there literally the
whole week? Or did you gofor a couple of days and come back
like Tuesday to satur Friday. Yeah, three days, four days. I'm
like that. It's a long week, man. Yeah, it is a
lot of lot of stuff. Itwas one of the two. Is Miami
or Atlanta? Might have been backto back, I'm not sure which one
came first. That being said,do you said you always feel like a
bad mamba jamba? Yes? Areyou just as fine as you can be?

(01:36):
Okay? Yeah? Why not? What a cut what we're saying?
Man? I mean, would doyou expect anything less? No? Not
from you. Oh, being amamba jamba is a big thing. Did
you did you go to DSG andjust raid their entire section? The drip
is just on point today. Man, I've had it, but I've noticed
I've had it in my closet forfor weeks. This I took the tags

(01:57):
off this one this morning. I'venoticed that you're a big joggers guy now,
and you and I shop at thesame spot. I've always been a
guy you have just because it's easy. You can dress them up, dress
them down if I gave you ahard time, But it was all,
it was all. It was allfun, fun, right right? I
mean you like it when I werethe Gray Ones? Yeah, no,

(02:24):
big Poppy is great. Great jogDid I see your eyes? I see
your eyes toggle back and forth? No, that was that was you when
you were looking at the drake.Yeah, yeah, I see you.
I don't look at that video. And plus he didn't have joggers on apparently,
right, So yeah, no,that ain't it. Okay, that

(02:44):
ain't it? Yeah? Yeah,my drips on point on point super Bowl
week, man, you call itsuper weak? No, it's called super
Bowl. It's a weak super Bowl. Do you think my eyebrows are on
fleet today? I can't even seehim, and I know they're they're light
or not. I was gonna say, as you get rid of them,
no, whoa, whoa, whoa. At least they're not gray yet,

(03:05):
right. I had a couple buddiesreach out. Looks like we've got EMITTT.
Smith calling in right now, sowe'll get to him in a second
as we get triplely get some teedup. But they were dying, excuse
me, dying lafe and about thissegment about the beer man. So you
know, yeah, well it's agood laugh. It's a good laugh.
Yeah, don't furrow your brow atthat. And we got our guy,

(03:28):
emminon right now. I think we'rewaiting to hopefully we will get a quick
few minutes with the one of myfavorite people of all time. Remember he
was supposed to be too small tobe a success or, that's right out
of Florida. Yeah, yeah, you think he discounted that right off the
bat went on. He is aHe is a phenomenal family man, a
great businessman, entrepreneur, a greatfootball player, Hall of Fame, multiple

(03:53):
Super Bowl rings, and the alltime NFL's all time leading Russia and a
great friend of the show and oneof my favorite people on the planet.
Emmitt Smith joins us, and Iknow we're going to get to tequila Harra
dura here in a second, myman, and always great, we always
have this conversation comes Super Bowl time. Love having you on. But before
we get to that, I'm reallyexcited for you in your new restaurant.

(04:15):
It opens later in Vegas this month, right, tell us about it.
Yeah, I'm excited for the restaurantopening as well. It's stated to be
open up a lot of part ofMarch. We're planning the grand opening during
that timeframe, but right now wehave some small private events happening at the
restaurant while we are at the superBowl. But yeah, I'm excited for

(04:38):
it as well. It's a steakhouse, we also have a sushi bar and
all gonna have different types of winesand everything else. So just trying to
do the best I can what Igot to work with, and so far
we got a nice little piece ofproperty, a great location here in Vegas,
and so I'm excited about it.My man. Do you ever stop
the rest and think it's just alwaysin the next great gig? Everything you

(05:00):
touch turns to gold. It's goodto be Emmitt Smith, my man,
it sure, I think you giveme more credit than I deserved. Not
always turned to go, But there'sbeen some good things that have happened,
a lot of good things that Icannot complain about, and so I'm just
blessed to be in this position tosee things differently, to grow through life

(05:21):
experiences and learn a lot from variouspeople that have been very very successful.
So that's the voice of the great. EMMITTT. Smith, NFL all time
leading rusher, Hall of Famer, super Bowl champion, entrepreneur, business owner
joins us here on the Shawn SalisburyShow. And we're gonna get to tequila
herradura and you've always been so generouswith that, and I know it's about
a ten about a ten year ina decade relationship. We'll get to that

(05:46):
for in a second. Let mehit this football stuff. Andre Johnson was
obviously got inducted, not inducted, but was made the Hall of Fame last
night. Was elected last night, and so with you, you get to
see both sides. You got tosee what that feeling was like as a
Super Bowl champion and a Hall ofFamer. So I'm wondering that feeling in
your gut before either the call cameor the game started, Super Bowl Hall

(06:11):
of Fame, which one got inyour gut deeper? Which one was more
stressful? The first bow, thevery first of Bowl was the most stressful
one because you're venturing off into anarea of the unknown, because, as
you know, anybody can be beatenon any given day. And for us,

(06:31):
walking onto the football field and knowingthat we were playing against the Bills
and so forth, and they hada quality quarterback in Jim Kelly and excellent
running back Herman Thomas, and warvciWas and Bruce Smith and all those guys.
We knew we had a challenge aheadof us. What we did not
know, though, was that theywere going to make that many mistakes and
give us that many opportunities. Thattook a whole lot of the pressure off.

(06:56):
And they came out like game bustersand jumped up on us and blocked
the punt early in the game.So we we bounded and hung in as
a team and turned it around andtook advantage of every mistake that they made,
and you know, winning the SuperBowl. But it was nerve wrecking
that for Super Bowl though, andthen it just became, you know,
all another super Bowl, another SuperYou know, it's like your very first

(07:20):
game in the NFL, your veryfirst game period, you have these jitters
and butterflies and so forth. Thenthe more games you play, uh,
or the more experience you get,the less those things happen. And so
you've become ain't gonna stay accustomed toit. It's just that you just gain
more experience in bending those type ofthose pressure type situations. I mean when

(07:41):
you describe, because I think alot of people want to know when people
are getting elected, like Andre Johnson, it took a few more years,
and people here in Houston thought itwould take a great player, obviously,
in a great human being. I'mcurious for you if you were sitting the
criteria for what it takes to getinto the Hall of Fame, Oh my
goodness, just give me a justa well, I don't want you don't
have to go through the holes. But if you were the guy who said,

(08:01):
Okay, here's three parts of thecriteria, the top three that I
have to have to judge a Hallof Famer. What would they be?
What would they be? Obviously, their performance on the football field has to
be the first moniker that you lookat. Most Hall of famers that have
performed at the highest level and havedominated their position and competed and their their

(08:26):
their stats within the team concept iswhat I'm talking about. Their stats are
parallel to other top five or topten Hall of Famers. Then you look
at it from that perspective. Youlook at longevity too as well, because
the game itself is about durability, longevity, and performance. Then you also
have to look at who the personis and how the person and not only

(08:52):
the totality of a person. Butyou're basing it all off of football and
what they're doing anyway, so someof the things you might have to push
to the side, like off thefield activities, et cetera, et cetera,
because they're being judged on what theydo on the football field, not
not everything else, but the otherthings that you do off the field only
enhanced those opportunities. NFL's all timeleading rusher Emmitt Smith for a few more

(09:15):
minutes here with the Shawn Salisbury Show. Emmett, why can't and what is
the biggest problem for the Cowboys gettingover the hump? Why can't they get
over it? Yeah? I mean, dude, you're dialed in and it's
not the finger one person, butI you know, point the finger at
one. But why can't they dealwith the same pressure you guys dealt with
and handled it as well as youdid when you were winning Super Bowls?
What's wrong? Well, Sean, let me just put it to you this
way. When we came in tothe Dallas Cowboys, we was already at

(09:41):
the bottom of the barrel. Wewere about as lawyer as the looking gid
one in fifteen is about as badas they get for the Dallas Cowboys.
And then Jimmy and Jerry they startturning this thing around in ninety ninety one
ninety two, and so we builtwhat you know as the Cowboys of of
the nineties, and that legacy isstill rain and shrewd even in the two

(10:05):
thousands. And the difference is whenyou build something versus inheriting things, you
take good care of it when youbuild it. Remember I was in Minnesota
on the Herschel Walker trade, soI know all too well. Yeah,
well right exactly. So for us, you know, when you build something,
you establish a work ethic, amentality, a mindset, and a

(10:31):
level of play that's s anonymous withexcellence, because when you win three Super
Bowls, it's a reflection of thework that you put in, the focus
that you put in, and everythingelse. And so I think the teams
of recently, or literally say,the teams of the last twenty some years,
the guys that get there but yethaven't closed, I don't know what

(10:56):
they're thinking of. I don't knowwhat's in the mindset. I mean,
we wanted to do great things. We sacrificed our bodies to do great things
for each other. And we wereout there playing individual football. We was
playing collective football offense, defense, and we celebrated with each other. We
loved one another. I don't seethe same kind of uh, you know,
feelings for each other on the footballfeel like we used to have it.

(11:18):
But you see it on the KansasCity team, right You see it
with Kelsey and and and that wholeteam, but Mahomes and everything. You
see it even on the Ford andnine team. And so you see a
passion that's that's uh, that's beenshared amongst the whole entire organization. And
and that right there, to meis the difference. Yeah, some pretty

(11:39):
good players too, that's for damnsure on those Cowboys, and you guys
executed love the pressure, right,Yeah it was Yeah, they they they
they've had great players and they stillhad great writers right now. But those
great players need to rise up andbecome something bigger than just being great players.
Right in the postseason, as youknow better than anybody sitting here listen,

(12:00):
and is a different a different egg. And you guys conquered that all
right. Before I let you go, I'll get your prediction a second tequila
Herradura. You and I have beentalking about it and you've always kind when
I'm there, bringing me a nicebottle, and I'm gonna hold you to
that when I met your new restaurantin Vegas. But just describe that relationship.
It's been a decade now and youguys have built something special and I
know you love it. Yeah.I've been with Tequila Headador for about thirteen

(12:22):
years now, and I've seen thebrand is self grow tremendously and the whole
category it self has exploded. Andso, I mean, I've seen all
the different brands that are out therenow, but I still think this one
here's the best brand of all allbecause of not only the quality of the
tequila and itself and how they producethe tequila and the infermentation process that it

(12:46):
goes through, but just the hotSienda stuff down in Gualalajara in the month
of time area is just phenomenal.I just I'm just grateful that I still
have had the chance to work withthem for such a long time and continue
to be associated with this brand. It's an amazing brand. Yeah, and
I know when that restaurant opens up, they'll be to Hey, if I'm

(13:07):
not mistaken, it's hero Dura onice, meaning on the rocks, and
throw a little steak and sushi onthat plate too, and you'll be good
to go, right, Bud,I'm an Ultra, I'm Ultra. I'm
a Legends guy. Forget selection ofsupremas out there as well. You have
the double bill of Reprisado, youhave the Yes, you have the m
Smith twenty two Represado as well. All those things are are available in the

(13:31):
marketplace. But just the quality ofthe tequila is what we're talking about this
when you start sipping on Ultra andLegends, let's go and I have Let's
go. I hear you before Ilet you go. And it's a little
early for that suwhere it's five o'clock, so tequila somewhere around the world.
What is uh? Who's winning thisgame? And why? Well, I'm

(13:56):
biased and I want to stick withthe NFC. I think the overall talent
that the Niners have is amazing. They got whyever se was that gonna make
plays? And the defense is prettysolid. I just like the Niners,
even though it's hard to bet againstPatrick Mahons, but I'm being biased because

(14:18):
I went to NFC to win thetrophy. I'm with you, I got
forty nine ers as well. Shouldbe a fun one. And I think
brock Perty is pretty good player, don't you. I mean you're from a
running back position. Don't you thinkhe can survive this? You know what,
I think he can. I thinkbrought pretty knows that this is his
opportunity, and you know what,he's gonna feel a little bit of the
butterflies that are not a lot ofthe butterflies that I mentioned about. But

(14:41):
I think he knows and understand that. Kyle Shanahan knows how to prepare these
guys. He knows how to preparethese guys. He's been an amazing coach.
He's been around enough. He'd beento he was in Atlanta when things
went south in Atlanta, so he'she has the experience of understanding how to
get his guys not too high andnot too low, but keep them right

(15:03):
in the middle and peak at theright time with their emotions. And that's
gonna be the key to this gameright here, controlling your emotions and not
getting overly emotional about this game andnot making mistakes, and so like anything
else in life, when you drinkinghit the door, you gotta do it
all responsibly. And these guys willstep foot on the football field comes Sunday
and they canna perform at a levelthat's gonna be pleasing to everyone. Tequila

(15:26):
Harrit Duro, NFL's all time leadingrusher. And it's so great to have
you on. I love you, brother, and I look forward to seeing
you and good luck with the newrestaurant opening. I can't wait to see
it. My man, Thank you, thank you, Appreciate you. That's
the great Emmatt Smith, all right, appreciate you, man. I love
him. He's he's he's a humbleguy and one of the great businessmen and
great people, you know, agreat family guy too. Son's a pretty

(15:48):
good player as well. Yeah hegets it. Yeah that's we'll come back
and discuss. But I love hispassion. He likes the forty nine er,
so I'm riding with it. Allright. Let's get into the nine
o'clock our CJ. Stroud talked aboutthat Rock Purdy disrespect. Next Sportslock seven Night
