With the trade deadline approaching next Thursday, the Seattle Mariners heat the trade block in the American League with their huge splash in acquiring the Arizona Diamondbacks' first baseman Josh Naylor. Evaluating the roles that need more depth within the Astros organization, Sean and Cole take a moment to share a few names the front office may be willing to go after as well as part with before next Thursday arrives, along with some prospects the front office must refuse to put on the block, as the Astros' future looks a bit promising in the years set to come.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
The guy that is going to change the roster for
this team, get them into World Series. Conversation could be
a rental, could be a one year at a one
year on the contract. You're getting told this guy's in
the deal. No deal for me. It's Brandon Walter. It's
Brandon Walter. And the reason why I say him is
because of he throws with control and the speed is there.

(00:22):
I'm getting ninety seven. I'm getting a dude who has
given me six quality endings a night. Yes, did he'd
give up the long ball? Does he have an ERA
roughly around three point thirty, Absolutely, but his with wass
point ninety three, he has fifty two strikeouts. This is
the guy that I view, and we talked about this
with Lance mccullors. We don't know what he's gonna be
when he comes back, and at this point we don't

(00:42):
know what he's going to be for the rest of
his astro's career. Let's say that you let the go
ahead and have him be that two winning starter. You
put Brandon Walter right behind him. He's giving you the
next five or six. I think that there's so much
value to having a guy that can be a starter,
be a stopgap guy, a long term reliever, and a
left hander. The asking price should be out the roof
for somebody who is a twenty eight year old from

(01:04):
Delaware that was cut by multiple teams, redeveloped in the
Astros farm system, and now back in finding his rhythm.
If I have that, I'm out lett him go for
a cheap price.

Speaker 2 (01:14):
Yeah, and I'm going to tell you this that I
would bet you because of the fact that not a
lot of people know about him, that the perception is
that if you traded for a Suarez and you wanted
a guy like that me and Walter, that you would
that you would have to give Walter and somebody else up.
That that's not value for them, that he's been so
invaluable for this franchise. Yeah, I don't even listen unless

(01:38):
you're offering me something I don't want to take away
from what you're trying to find. It's hard to find
premium quality left handed pitching. Man, you got one at
the topy. It just is so you're not touching my
starting pitching. I mean, now, if I got to throw
in a spot, you know that somehow, some way got
to throw something in. But think about what the value
Walter gives you when all if Garcia and Javier and

(02:03):
France and and Arragetty come back, That's right, that's the
value talking about about hey Man long relief. I can
put him in for an inning, I can get him three,
I can start him. Yeah, he is. I'm for young guys.
To me, I'm not interested really in fielding calls for
Bryce Matthews. I'm not because the guy that's going to

(02:25):
be available, and you could roll through Souarez, you can
roll through Duran, you can roll through Cedric Mullins. Are
any of those guys Are they the one piece that
gets you to a World Series? Or could you still
survive without him? I think you can, especially if Jordon
comes back and when you get Paradus and opinion. But
there's a lot of ifs. And if my Ane had balls,
she'd be my uncle. So you got to get him back.

(02:47):
And we've been saying if they get healthy for ninety days, okay,
for three or four months or even longer, considering some
of the pitching that's been hurt before the season even started.
So I'm not interested in that. You know what, I'll
bet you people are still inquiring about a guy like
Zach Decenzo too. I'll bet you they are or whit
cob out, I'll bet you they are healthy. And I'm
not letting him go, you know, not letting who well

(03:08):
Matthews to me, I don't know. Listen, everything's negotiable. I'll
listen to anything, but that doesn't mean I'm up to
giving you anything that you ask for just because I
think that we've got a chance to get to the
World Series. I look at a guy like that, I
start to think about the lineup, and I'm not concerned
about twenty thirty. I never am. I'll be concerned about
twenty thirty late twenty twenty nine, sure, and I'm concerned

(03:31):
about without mortgaging your franchise. Concerned about now because this
team's proven that they're resilient enough to in a long
series put you in a problem regardless of if they
when they get healthy or not. A guy like Descenzo,
I start to think about the lineup moving forward. Matthews
at second, maybe one day Descenzo's your starting first baseman.
You've got you know, Paradus who's not old at third,

(03:52):
and then you pain you it short. You start to
build it and then you got the veteran Al Tuve
and the way Jake Myers. But also you start to
look at guys that can play the outfield. For you
got Cam Smith and right field. So there's a f
you got. You're gonna have to really impress me to
get one of my top prospects.

Speaker 1 (04:08):
To move.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
If to get a veteran, but depending on who it is.
But if you get a Suarez guy, there is one
of those guys that are gonna go. Somebody is gonna go,
plus probably a player like you're talking about. But I'm
not partying with pitching now.

Speaker 1 (04:23):
I'm not partying starting pitching.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
I don't have an I can't bank on the other
guys being healthy until they're healthy. And unfortunately, by the
time trade Deadlinkeet's here, more than likely none of those
guys are gonna be on the major league. You're still
gonna wonder in their rehab how it's gonna turn out.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
If you told me Colton Gordon had to be in
a how to be in a deal, and I knew
that Spencer Arraghetty was coming right, I'm okay with that.

Speaker 2 (04:44):
I'm okay when I say Starry, I'm talking about the
pre Gordon's good, but Walter before Gordon, I would Walter.
That's exactly right.

Speaker 1 (04:54):
It's just because of the value of a left handed
pitcher that can give you five quality and sean last
seven games for Brandon Walter has been fantastic. It's not
his fault that you can't get run support. It's not
his fault that the astros are not able to put
up behind his performance. Do you remember when J.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
We'll think about when JP Frantz was as a right hand,
but when he came two years ago when he had to,
when he was fighting and scratching and came in and
kind of saved some stuff at the right time. Think
about Renelle Blanco when everybody was struggling, who kept it
together last year. And while it's not obviously you still
got the two horses at the front, but this is
a guy that we can grow through fifteen guys on

(05:37):
the roster that when the season started, he wasn't on
your Bengo card anywhere at any point in time when
the season started, I'm talking and now look he's not
only on your Bengo card. He he gives you a
chance to spell it out and yell it out. He's
been really, really solid. I'm not partnering with him, especially
not knowing, not knowing the with what's happened in minor
leagues and how if there's going to be a setback,

(05:58):
We've seen enough setback for me not to part with quality,
left handed, versatile pitching.

Speaker 1 (06:03):
We were talking about this on the A team, that
there'll be a day where we'll say, hey, Zach Shorty,
the'll walk off double Okay, who's Zach short We'll forget
about him. I don't feel that way when it comes
to Brandon Walter. I think he's gonna be here for
the long term, and it's why I'm not cutting ties
with them. John in Downtown, John and Northwest, we see
we're gonna get to you when we come back from
the commercial break, hour number two underway. What is your thought,
one player, you cannot afford to give up. If you

(06:24):
are the Houston Astros will take your calls. We'll talk
a little Astros. Hour one down. Shawn has not killed
me yet. We got three more hours here to go.
