Speaker 1 (00:02):
Susy.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Oh, okay, let's do this.

Speaker 3 (00:08):
Sewn Salisbury to us see true longtime friend Shawn Salisbury.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Dad, matthewscuse, this is the Sewn Salsbury Show. Do you
see myself sign a contract extension.

Speaker 4 (00:27):
I can't tell you exactly when that will happen, but
I do see it happening obviously.

Speaker 5 (00:32):
You know what he brings. Everyone should be you guys
know right, I don't have to it's not new. It's
not gonna surprise you with anything new. But yeah, so, yeah,
he's a good dude.

Speaker 4 (00:44):
I mean, I'm expecting it. You know what I'm saying.
It's something that I've been working on, something that something
that I feel like I deserve, something that I'm going
to show that I deserve. But at the end of
the day, it doesn't really matter, you know what I'm saying.
It's something that that you can that you can see. Uh,
he may really don't care about you know what I'm saying.
He gonna like who playing. So this is it's a
it's a small issue. It's a small question that everybody has,

(01:06):
you know what I'm saying. But at the end of
the day, we have team. At the end of the day,
we're gonna we're gonna compete with the fiveus on the floor,
and that's gonna be what it is. But to answer
your question, not nobody has has has talked to me
that hasn't even been mentioning yet.

Speaker 6 (01:18):
Just a few of the sounds from yesterday over at
Toyota Center for Rockets Media Day, and with that we
say away we go. Good morning here on the Sewn
Salisbury Show. What's up Sports Talk seven ninety. I mean,
soon enough, Sean, we're going to be hearing the squeaking
of sneakers, the balls bouncing.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
Who doesn't like balls bouncing? With basketball? That's well, that's
what I was talking about, right Where's why do you
think you need to preface it with basketball? I just
want to make sure I come in here triple and
I alwas. We just wanted to times I have to
head you off the pass. That's okay, listen, An, unpaved
road's a good one sometimes that's true. I but you know,
trust me, I would know. Yeah, Well, I've been on
it plenty of my life, whether I wanted to or not.

(01:58):
But you know, who doesn't like bouncing balls? You know
what I'm saying? And you don't even need to say basketballs.

Speaker 6 (02:05):
Yeah, I mean I would say that if Fromber gets
one of those numbers up the third base line, he
doesn't like the bouncing ball right there.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
Well, a bouncing ball and a number. I know you
didn't beat him together. Put a bouncing ball at a number.
Not sure that the second one was whether you wanted
to be or not. You're goire, Yeah, bouncing balls with
the numbers probably not a good feeling. No, you know
what I'm saying. You want to you want to hit
the you want to hit that, you want to be
a gapper with with and then have some bouncing balls.

(02:34):
Oh yeah, no question, Oh yeah, v LO is huge. Well,
no put intended. You know what I'm saying right right, See,
it's it's contagious. Contagious kind of like winning and losing
and stupidity, kind of like you know, like fair catching
a ball at the two yards.

Speaker 6 (02:49):
You say that, I must have missed that because I
mean laundry, you know, just everything else. And I had
both games on. I gotta say, you're you're unpaved guy,
you know. Coach JB.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
I agree. If we're gonna do doubleheaders, you got to
stagger him. Well, start one at five or six o'clock
the other one at eight. If it's a West coast
you can't do them both the same time.

Speaker 6 (03:07):
It's not even that it's have four teams that people
get a damn about watching.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
Well, they thought at the beginning of you when they
made the schedule. It's New York. First of all, they
don't care if they're owning for oh, they are owing
four and no offense to Aaron Glenn. His team is
so disorganized. They are putrid and early, and the mistakes
they're making are stuff that you shouldn't be doing a practice.
And I love Erin, I always have, but he better
pick it up or he'll be one and done. Okay.

(03:33):
I'm just telling you because his team is just flat
out dumb, okay, and I see it every week and
this has bothered me for a long time. There's things
in sports you cannot control. I mean, dude, this chap's
my ass beyond belief. This is seventh grade, Swiftly, Pennsylvania.
Wake up and go play youth football stuff. You're all

(03:54):
right now. If you're not teaching this, then you're the problem.
You're either teaching it or letting it happen. One of
the two you just are. And I saw Mike Greenberg's
post from the same thing, and he's a you know,
he's a Homer Jets fan through and through. I heard
they're allowing stuff to happen that you got to control
on the praxe field, and if your guys aren't doing it,

(04:14):
you either got to change the teachers or you got
to get the player out. I'm tired of giving players
hall passes. Well, if the coach is teaching, how dumb
do you got to be? Football? IQ wise, you were
taught in the fifth grade, put your heels at ten.
If the ball goes over your head and you have
to move backwards a half a step, you let the
ball bounce. Anybody that isn't teaching that anymore, then that

(04:37):
special team's coach is a dumb ass too. And that
goes for here. If they're teaching that here, which I
doubt they are. If I'm a special team's coach and
my guy catches the fair catch two yard line more
than once, I'm either cutting him or he's going to
have to do something different because he's not playing that position.
Those are things you can't as well. There's mistakes, having no, No,

(04:59):
those are controlled. It's like a wide receiver jumping off sides.
You're staring at the football A lot of times you
can't even hear the cadence watch football when it moves
you go. You can't be Now. I understand sometimes that
a garter or tackle jump off because you're afraid to
death that the Russian is going to kill your quarterback.
But there's some inexcusable things that happen that you can't control. See,

(05:19):
the things you can't control are going to happen to everybody.
The things you can control that you get under, that
you handle. That tells me there's organization in the building.
If stuff like that keeps happening, it tells me they
are sluggish. And they are. They're kind of casual in
their teaching and they let things go. And that's on
the frigginhead coach. And then it goes to the player.
We give players too many hall pass Well, guy catches

(05:40):
it at the two, and we're supposed to blame it
on the special teams coach, especially if he told him
put your heels at ten. If the wall goes over,
you head, leave it. But I see it every week?
Do I see it? In college. I see it in
the NFL, and I think, what in the world you
can't have that low of football IQ. I can take
fifteen fifth graders out there and stick them back there
and say, put your heels at ten at the ball
goes over your head, do not move you move forward. Yes,

(06:03):
he keeps going back. You leave it alone. And you
know what fifteen them will do. They'll stand there because
you know that. I don't know what gets into you,
guys hero worship, not listening, think that they can do
what they want to do. But I'm telling you, alls,
I can deduct from this is a few things. One
you know as the coach is teaching it. Two you're
allowing it on the practice. Or three the return guy's

(06:24):
just dumb. He just got an IQ of a tree, okay,
of a brick. And if that's the case, then you
got to take him out of every situation that requires
any thinking at all.

Speaker 3 (06:35):
This.

Speaker 2 (06:36):
The Jets are a putrid watch. The Saints are a
putrid watch. The Tennessee Titans are a putrid watch. Oh man,
we're you know, we're really working on it. I feel
like we're gonna have a breakthrough. A breakthrough. What break
through what learning how to make a tackle in the whole,
a breakthrough of what not? The Titans, according to cam Ward, Yeah,
well and at least that guy's accountable. Said, we're ass okay,

(06:57):
And you know what I had. Somebody asked me, well,
is that a great or is that is that just
you're you're going overboard? Hell no, it's a great lader.
It's a rookie. The fact that a rookie quarterback has
to sit up there and say that about his team.
But he's spot on. We're so, well, well, what if
you hurt the players feelings, then then I suggest you
take two weeks off and find something else to do.

(07:18):
If you're an athlete your feelings get hurt by the truth,
then then you're not long for the league anyway. So
all these things that I watch, you just can't do.
That's why the Jets suck. That's why the tenete type
they've got good players around. It's the sum of these teams.
You can't tell me that the right guard or the
right wide receiver doesn't know how to play. You'd take

(07:39):
Jeffrey Simmons here are, of course you would. So that
there's parts that are good, but there's sensitivity and all that.
But the Jets suck, the Titans suck, the Saints suck.
I mean, it's just and the players the difference. So
what is the difference. Okay, sometimes you draft a guy
that's just better. Sometimes the fifth round is better than
the first round, and you make mistakes in your evaluation.
But if you line them all up in a feeling
and set let's go play, you'd say these guys are

(08:01):
pretty good. If you took three of their players and
put them here and put three of ours there, you'd say,
we're still good, and they're Maybe they got better, maybe
they didn't. Regardless. Environment creates that. But as a player,
you got a responsibility we could. We always want to
blame a guy who chases the high fastball on the
hitting coach. Now I know if that's what you're teaching,
But eventually you got the ball in your hand, the
bat in your hand, the basketball in your hand. You've

(08:23):
got to make smart decisions. And if you can't, I
just can't play you. And if your feelings are hurt
over it, I don't care. I really don't, and I
think we do. When I'm watching them, I think, well,
is the difference in your building so much more different
than the difference in Buffalo's building. You would hope not.
You know when I'm saying, Okay, I get Josh Allen,
but I talk about the other positions that you know,

(08:44):
we could throw a couple of right guards in and
do one on one drill and you'd say both of
them pretty good or both of them need a lot
of work with our footwork.

Speaker 6 (08:51):
It's why you appreciate guys like Mike Tomlin so much more.

Speaker 2 (08:55):
The test of time. Yes, but see Tomlin doesn't budge
on what he believes. Just an adapt is one thing,
but budget on stuff like catching a punt at the
two yard line. All you had to do is watch
that and it will tell you why the Jets are
no good and so whatever it is they're allowing or
they got to draft smarter players or teach smarter, it's

(09:17):
just And if that hurts somebody, se Sean, you can't
call them dumb. I just did, okay, and it won't
be the last time. Hey, you just listen. Sometimes the
other guy's just better than you, but you make a
guy that's not as good as you a lot better
by doing stuff like that. You let an average team
man Oh, do you think the Dolphins are any good? No,

(09:38):
the Dolphins are. The Dolphins are as soft as a
baby's butt. And they got even worse last night with
Tyreek Hill being done for the year. They did and
it's a gruesome and a bummer, and who knows what
the future holds for his career now. But the bottom
line is, I just I watched these teams and I think,
can there be that big a difference in the way
coaches are coaching it? These guys who get gigs, I'm

(10:00):
going to tell you right now, and I'm not if
I'm a general manager, I'm I think we fire coaches
too quick. Like listen, you look at Arkansas. He's a
good man and a good football coach. They're just not
whatever is going on. And also he wanted is for
Arkansas to be good and he just wasn't getting the results.
So I get it. But he can walk out of
there with his head held high because he loves Arkansas football.

(10:21):
And so when I see that, I think, sometimes meant,
just if you're in NIL, give him opportunity get better
players and go do it, or hire a better staff
that recruits better, whatever it is. But then there's the
other side that I'm telling you, there's the other side.
We let guys hang around sometimes too long. I can
already tell you by looking at cod when they go
into hang around a meeting and you say, this guy

(10:42):
just doesn't get it. There's no way he gets buying.
And I don't know that it may or may not
exist at some Some are just better at coaching, assistant
coaching and all that. But I watched Jets last night
and I shake my head thinking, no, wonder they haven't won.
And it's just like what happens when a guy goes
from being a great position coach or coordinator too having
zero clue as a head coach or a player that

(11:03):
you know that you can't do this. Hey man, put
you eels at ten. And I mean if I'm a
position coach and I constant reminder when they were on
the field, the one thing, hey man, ball goes over.
Hehad leave it alone and he goes back to the
two when he catches it and turns his head and
looks at the end zone like, man, did I just
screw that up? Yeah? And guess what. Check for your

(11:23):
playbook and go see your coaches in a good word
on Monday after your Tuesday for him, after you do it.
I just don't get it, and I'm tired of I'm
tired of our Well, got to protect the way screw
the player. He gets paid enough. Okay, I don't need
to protect the player. I haven't protect himself. And I
can't protect stupidity all the time and low IQ football.

(11:44):
I just can't. And that's why the Jets are zero three.
Good thing Justin Fields can run around like you do
in a schoolyard and go make plays. His touchdown last
night was spectacular. Other than that, that team sucks ass. Okay,
they're horrible watch and then they throw that stuff on
on Monday Night football. You're right, But at the beginning
of the year they thought, Man, the Jets and they're
gonna be Okay, it's New York and the Dolphins are explosive. Yeah,

(12:07):
have while he's at and have Mike McDaniel go and
buy five more pairs of joggers to pull up to
his knees to coach on it. Boy, that says toughness
all the way through, doesn't it. Smoke a joint while
you're at it, and a vape on the sidelines. I'm
telling you what there's such a clown show going on
in pro sports right now, drives me nuts. There you
go get this segment two coming up, we'll talk about

(12:28):
the astros off. Is Bruce Bochie a viable option for
a lot of teams?

Speaker 7 (12:31):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (12:31):
Sure, why not?

Speaker 6 (12:32):
There we go. We we can't get into that. Also,
no Joe, at least for the early going. And we'll
also get into a little bit of the stuff that
came from over at Toyota Center yesterday. You know how
to jump in if you want to someone three two
one two five seven ninety and if you don't some
one three two one two five seven ninety. As we're

(12:53):
off and running here on a Tejano Tuesday, Sean Salisbury Show,
Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (12:58):
Hey, DNM Leasing just delivered a truck to a customer
who had listened to DNM for more than twenty five years.
Think about that, and he'd been hearing these commercials forever,
right for decades. He believed leasing was just renting a car.
I put in air quotes, something you only did if
you couldn't afford to buy. And who hasn't been there,
right guys. But DNM Leasing's here to change that. That
changed when the dealership offered him an eighty four month loan.

(13:20):
He knew he'd trade the truck in in a few years,
and he knew he'd end up well upside down again
owing more than it was worth. Well. That's when he
remembered the DNM commercials ever seen a Texas title and
when you trade in a long finance contract, the only
thing you own is negative equity. Those quotes, so he
called DNM leasing, showed him is that leasing isn't about

(13:42):
what you can afford. It's simply the smarter way most
people pay for their vehicles. Smarter see what smarter does
for you, And DNM leasing is smart. Leasing isn't renting.
Let me say it again, Leasing isn't renting. It's smarter.
Who doesn't want smarter? Harder doesn't always work. Smarter does,
and especially when it puts money in your pocket and

(14:02):
makes it easier for you at the beginning, the middle,
and the end. Dial seven one three two nine zero
one thousand seven one three two nine zero one thousand,
or visit us at d and M. It's d N
M Leasing, dmauto leasing dot com, dmauto leasing dot com.
They continue to win awards and there's a reason why
dn M. It's dm auto Leasing dot com. This is

(14:27):
the Sean Salisbury show.

Speaker 1 (14:31):
That's beautiful.

Speaker 2 (14:34):
That Jominson thing really worked out here, didn't it. It
really did? What a player? How about that? I mean,
you know if anything, you know, Nick, yeah, there you go,
just say, hey, there's a really good chance that the
sixth round, right, yeah, there's a really good chance that
the sixth round is already better than him at least.

Speaker 6 (14:50):
I mean, you would have to believe with the way
that this offensive line is played that.

Speaker 2 (14:55):
I mean, Cam Robinson's not breaking this.

Speaker 7 (14:57):
Now.

Speaker 2 (14:57):
Think about that, though, that's exactly Think about that. You're
training a guy where you don't have a lot of depth,
you're not exactly the best offensive line in the league.
When you're willing to get push him out of the building,
that ought to tell you that he's not only good,
he sucks too. No, I'm kidding. This is the point.
He's just obviously it didn't click, or he didn't fit

(15:19):
a scheme, or he just wasn't good. I mean, when
you're a when you're on the lower third offensive line
in the league and you get rid of a guy
you brought in to start and you get rid of him,
the fact that they fleeced even the Clea out of
a sixth round pick. There's always somewhat has said you
go ahead and cut him. Go ahead, and do you
realize they haven't scored like twenty points since ninete since

(15:40):
twenty twenty four in a game. You're talking about the Browns.
Oh the Browns. Okay, yeah, dude, you, I mean dude,
talk about futility, especially with their head coach. To my gosh,
the ree how he's keeping a giving, how Andrew Berry
still has a gig. Their GM is baffling. We're going
to talk about them later.

Speaker 6 (15:57):
Yeah, because one of your good buddies had something to
say about somebody that's been a lightning rod on this show.

Speaker 2 (16:03):
I can't wait to can't wait to hear it. Oh,
you're gonna you're gonna love it too. So that just,
I mean, it's it says something when we're running you
out and trading you for a sixth round pick on
an offensive line that needs all the help it can get.
Now you do that math get him in, uh huh,
he ain't for us, and get him out.

Speaker 6 (16:22):
I'd be like the Astros, like one of the guys
that they brought in at the trade deadline. They defade him. Yeah,
like like two months later, right. It's it's crazy because
like you need hitters in this lineup and you just
defade him. Well, to tell you what's great is they
got rid of him. I mean you didn't let it
fester like Okay, let's see how it works out. You
just said, oh no, no, you knew right then and there.
It's kind of like, uh CJ. Gardner Johnson, you didn't

(16:45):
like what he was about in the building. To say
I got rid of him right now.

Speaker 2 (16:48):
It's it seems like if there's any hint of dissension
in that building right now, then you're on your way.
You know where that comes from. That comes from the
new in you don't like the New England way. That
comes from the way Belichick did his business and Casaria
watched it for twenty years. It's like, no, no, no,
this guy's not one of us. Get him out, meaning
he's not for us or doesn't fit the scheme. Maybe
Cleveland can do something with him because they need all

(17:08):
help they can get to. We'll take a sixth round
or who may turn into an outside linebacker that runs
down on special teams. And turns into being a player
for twelve years.

Speaker 6 (17:15):
So Frank Cross All Star basically he is what that
guy would be. One of the other headlines, too, is
twofold with the team that's in the Al West with
the Astros, but up north of us. Bruce Bochi not
going to be back as Rangers manager next year. Now
it was the old mutual parting of ways.

Speaker 2 (17:34):
Which you get, which is complete bs.

Speaker 6 (17:36):
Well, I mean because there was the report earlier in
the day from Ken Rosenthal that the Rangers are gonna
shred payroll. This shed payroll, take the r out shed
payroll a good way to do it, he could, Yeah,
you know, I mean you do shred it off the books,
I guess, but you shred the books if you don't
want to see him. I just can't say, yeah, you know,
it's it's either it's one way or the other. That

(17:57):
or cook the books, which I would not recommend doing.
The side one.

Speaker 2 (18:00):
Thank you.

Speaker 6 (18:01):
But Chris Young, the GM who of course we're such
big fans of here, he pushed back on that a
little bit when he met with the media last night.
He said, wouldn't necessarily say payroll, but we're gonna get
younger I e, I would probably have to guess this
offseason that a guy like Marcus Simeon is going to
be moved at least that they would try to move him.

Speaker 2 (18:21):
Like that's that's what that sounds like to me. And
getting younger, getting younger means cheaper because they haven't got
that is what it means. I mean, because yeah, man,
you don't you don't have to pay Josh Young. You
don't have to pay Wyatt Lang for just yet. So yeah,
that's that's one hundred percent what that means. So for Boche,
I mean, I get it where he looks at it
and says, well, well wait a minute here, I mean,

(18:41):
all right, so if we're gonna get rid of some
of the veteran guys, that's part of the reason why
I came here, because I came here thinking, hey, Corey
Sieger can win, Marcus Simeon can win, you know, Nathandi
and and and they did his first year, Jacob deGrom
the whole thing, and you're right, we did. And he
goes and gets the World Series, which is typical of
Boach Hall of Famer and no already and he hasn't
even been out of I mean, you know, Boach is

(19:03):
in the position now he can kind of pick and
choose what he wants to do, and don't blame him.
He's earned it. He's not going to a team I
could promise you this. He's not going to a team
that's rebuilding young players. I'll tell you A job that
would be intriguing I would imagine for him is the
Baltimore Oriols. Intriguing because they've got young stars that you're not.
You're not babysitting yet, I mean because they're they're you know,

(19:24):
from Jackson Holliday. They've got some players from Catcher, I
mean some guys it'll be MVP candidates. They got a
bunch of those type of guys and they were close,
and then something happened, whatever it is, and they fell
off and they shredded.

Speaker 8 (19:37):
You.

Speaker 2 (19:37):
Fire your manager, you get rid of you, let do
you let guys go and start trying to trade pieces.
That would be intriguing. Now, the one that seems like
the obvious is going back to San Francisco. If you're
the people think they can be an advisor, I don't
think Boach isn't the guy who wants to walk around
a coat and tie and and it be that guy
that that the consultant role at this time where you're
really not doing much well. Now GM's dressed like me,

(19:58):
and you are dressed right now, you know you mean quarters,
that's right, with a golf shirt on underneath, right, yeah, yeah,
no question. And maybe like in the spring, it's got
a little color to it, like maybe a few show
one like the lavender.

Speaker 6 (20:09):
Or like the you know, the oiler blue, the Columbia
blue one, a little trim at the collar, right, no, damn,
and then your golf shirt, golf shirt underneath. But yeah,
I don't think Boach is ready for that just yet,
or I'm not even sure that interest him. I'm sure
he'd probably rather be playing golf for fishing or drinking. Yeah,
that's what I want to do so with him. And

(20:30):
also the quality of life for where you live. Does
he want to live in San Francisco again? Does he
want to?

Speaker 2 (20:34):
Does he want to go back to where he won
three World Series and try to, you know, revitalize that.
I'm sure they'd love him. And maybe the timing of
it was they had heard that he was going to
be out in Texas and that's why they just fired
a guy who's been a damn good manager in baseball
for a long time in Bob Melvin. Bob Melvin. But see, yeah,
but remember both veterans, both been in a long time.
Does San Francisco want to go there yet? The familiarity

(20:55):
with with Bochie, But you know, this is a you know, hell,
the Minnesota Twins. You know, you'd make the call to him,
you know, and Roco, believe me, Minnesota's losing eight Rocco
Baldelli's fault. Just like the Rangers. There wasn't a Bruce
Bochie problem. There's a lot of other problems with twins
are kind of in the same situation that maybe the
Rangers that's exactly right, allowing him to shed a little

(21:18):
bit of that and uh and try to get not
only younger, but cheaper as well. And Minnesota would probably
like to go cheaper because you know, it's as small,
I mean, when you think about it is it's it's
always going to be a small market baseball town, even
though it's a good baseball town. So I'm interesting what
happens with Boach along the way. You know, if you
had a job opening here, you do it. But the question,

(21:38):
I mean, you don't. But if you did, you'd say, damn,
I'd at least like to visit. How long does he
want to do it? Do you want to do you
want a two or three year rec a guy who
comes in and has it.

Speaker 5 (21:47):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (21:48):
Now, of all the teams we just named, and you
know who the best job is for players in what
you have, it's right here. He is sitting and thinking
they're gonna get healthy. I'm gonna have pitching. I got
some some bats, and they don't get your done back
and we'll probably have some movement in the off season. Yeah,
I'm in hell. They don't have one here, But this
is the type of job the players here. No, I'm
talking about teams, teams that didn't go to the playoffs,

(22:09):
whether they have a manager or not, teams that didn't
go This would be a very appealing job. Great owner,
it doesn't have to come far. It's a great baseball
town and and you're you're gonna win, and I think
that would be appealing. So a place like that for
Boachi or Boach says, Yeah, I'll be your advisor and
I'll pay me a million bucks a year, and I'll
shake hands and kiss babies and talk baseball and go

(22:31):
to spring training and do all that with a golf
shirt on, and and then all the pressure you fall
when you're losing can follow on your next manager. So
I'm anxious to see how that goes, because Boach gets it.
But he's also made an impact wherever he's going.

Speaker 6 (22:44):
Always love the guest instructors at spring training. You know
it's the one day year Jeff Bagwell throws on you know,
baseball pants and the short sleeve pullover and is out
there behind the cage.

Speaker 2 (22:54):
Oh yeah, or like the one but it's the sweat
jacket type of you know, I'm trying to get a
sweat into or the one that.

Speaker 6 (23:00):
He was up in the stands there in one of
the backfields and he's telling Penia back elbow, put it up,
and then sure enough, Painia sends one over to the
left field wall and he just holds both of his
hands out like what did I just tell you?

Speaker 2 (23:11):
Oh, there's no doubt the guy knows how to hit. Yeah,
he's a he's a good teacher.

Speaker 6 (23:15):
It was an interim hitting coach here Wanson and it
actually worked out pretty well.

Speaker 2 (23:18):
Yeah, pretty good. Now, he would never teach his stance
to anybody else because nobody else can pull it off.
But somebody asked him that. He goes, no, I'm not
going to teach some way to hit like me. Yeah,
no way. It's like you get a quarterback like that
throws like well Fritz, like Bernie Kozar. The results were great,
but Bernie ain't ever teaching Yeah, throw it like me
throw its side arm and my have and far of

(23:43):
what he would say, No, don't don't throw it like
I do, because I took way too many chances. But
I was really damn good at it. That's that's that's
not Farv's attitude, which I love, ain't for the faint
of heart. Because all I threw four picks, I'm willing
to throw a fifth to fit it in there, and
he just threw more. I mean, he was just damn
good at it. So there's certain things you say, I
know what I do, but very few can do it
that way, right, So you ain't teaching Jim FURICKX big

(24:05):
figure eight golf swing. You're teaching you know, you're teaching
uh ludvig Oldberg's golf swing. If you can actually strac
of that temple where you're like, does that guy have it?
Is he bored, and that the ball jumps off their clubs,
landing in a fairway three and free way. They're hitting
irons to two feet. So it uh, it's it's interesting.

(24:26):
But there's gonna be a lot of jobs opening in baseball,
man already is. And so when you're when you're a
guy with experience, and then the question is and and
by the way, speaking of manager, that don't mean to
get off to beat pet did you see how bush
League marble was the other night? Uh? I can't even
remember what player of Cubs comes up. He's got a
double triple in the in the game's over, it's like
eight to three. He comes up to the plate. All

(24:49):
he needs is a single. It's like the eighth inning,
a single for the cycle. He walks him, he puts
him on and four dude, that the Jeff Fry and
some former players are on there. I'm talking about torching him. Come,
you're saying the first of all good baseball talent say
let's stop it, especially in Chicago, right, It's like, stop it, man,
you don't do that. Don't do that. Pitch to the

(25:11):
guy and let let let let's see what happens. You
don't want I mean because now that's going to fall.
Oh yeah, Marmle, Oh yeah, Oliver Marble. Yeah, he's that
guy who walked the guy in the eighth when they
weren't going anywhere and they had a bad season and
their ballpark wasn't Phillip the to go Chicago to get fans,
and you walk a guy because you're afraid to pitch,
you because you don't want to be the one that
gave up a cycle. Nobody cares two days later other
than the guy who got the cycle. At least give

(25:32):
him a chance. Some of the things I see in
sports nowadays, dude, are baffling, And I'm anxious to see
who the hires is and what Bruce Boat you wants
to because if he retires again that he ain't coming
back next time. I wouldn't think so.

Speaker 6 (25:44):
So I mean, you know, he's got the home in Nashville,
and I mean, you know likes his wine.

Speaker 2 (25:49):
He sure does, you know, like like the little Scott
still loves from San Diego. He loves to find a
hat that fits his head. Which yeah, I was gonna say,
if you if you got a Super Bowl, you know,
maybe serve Thanksgiving meal to ten people on on Boach's head, remember,
I mean I reminded of it, trust me.

Speaker 6 (26:05):
Finally seeing him in person, I was like, good Lord,
if somebody have a melon that large.

Speaker 2 (26:10):
The four slices toaster head?

Speaker 6 (26:11):
Man, really it's you could probably even throw a couple
of extras.

Speaker 2 (26:15):
The guy that has to have extra thing put on
the back of his you know, the the hat that's
got the the trucker hat. Yeah, he's the guy that's
gotta that's gotta throw the the back of him, the clasp.
He's got to add extras or tape it so it
doesn't his head and they're going down like a v. Yeah,
that's Boach and he knows it, and he just laughs
and smiles about it. Dude. You know, hey, what Lord
give me? When when Boach was born, he's probably born

(26:37):
like twelve pounds and his head weighed eleven two.

Speaker 6 (26:40):
Thirds of it too. What a legend for sure, even
a better guy than he is a man. That's that's
the way. That's the way it sounds, and that's that
is what I hear from a lot of people. All Right,
Roger and Jason, work you guys in you want to
join him? seOne three two, one two five seven ninety
against someone three two one two five seven ninety. Could
there possibly be a map for the Astros off season?

Speaker 2 (27:02):
I think so. We'll discuss here.

Speaker 6 (27:04):
It is a Sean Salisbury show on Ateano Tuesday Sports Talks.

Speaker 3 (27:08):
An.

Speaker 2 (27:08):
Hey, I'm telling you, but I'm doing it live right now.
I thought it was one. It isn't, because you know what,
this is one of those lives. I was reading it
wrong and sort of Pro will be live at your
house if you need them. I know I needed them,
And like I said, how in the world could I
endorse a paint company and a business that I didn't use.
Hey man, it look good from far away. No, I
wanted it up close. And they came to my home

(27:29):
interior exterior and did a phenomenal job. And when it
was like ninja like did it boom. By the end
of the day, three different rooms were painting. I'm like, oh, man,
now the couch and the pillows on the couch are popping.
I love it. I just do each and every cut
of Pro business is individually owned and operated. And not
only that that if you go to sert ofpro dot
com that is where you go to get all your information.

(27:50):
They'll even help you pick out the paint. See a
lot of times we all know di I Wire's, well, okay,
this is how I want to look. But do you
know what paint when it's on there and after a while,
the mad or the gloss, whatever it is you want,
how does it look when it's finished drying? Little things
like that that go a long way. It's expensive onwn
a home. It's expensive to get a paint job normally
when you're with a family like sort of pro which

(28:11):
I was a client, a customer first and now part
of the family. That's how it's supposed to be because
I can tell you because I used them and still do.
There's nobody else I trust more with my home or
my business. And it's been proven in tier next tier
at my home and we'll continue to be. I like
the I wiresh. I love to do it myself, but

(28:33):
by them doing it more efficient than I am, I
can free up myself to do the other things that
I love, and so can you. It's sort of with
a c sertapro dot com for your free estimate, when
you got great customer service. They do quality work and
they get it done right and quickly. And if they
didn't they'd be back, but rarely do they have to
make a second visit. It's sort of pro painters, sort

(28:54):
of with the sea certapro dot com for that free estimate,
sort of pro painters. That's painting. Happy to live that there.
The Sean Salsbury Show continued, Roger, good morning.

Speaker 9 (29:09):
My sports brother. And already he got a couple of questions.
One is about man with all the information he provided
that it's very intriguing. Man, I healthy, the gram and
an Astro's uniform is intriguing. I'm not saying it's gonna happen,
but I do believe the Astros will be in line
for two frontline starters because with all the injuries and

(29:33):
the and the failure to maintain the staff, I just
don't think that they they're comfortable with going with a
Javier or or Garcia who's already h who's already relapsed
into another injury. I just I just don't think that
they're comfortable with what they have as far as hundred Browns.

(29:54):
He's distabled, but I don't know what they have after that.
So I think they're gonna get two front lines start.
There's also a sinion man that would be nice too.
I mean, just the possibilities are endless. Moving forward to
the Texans though, uh, at least they have a template,
right Sean, They got a temple. They know what it
looks like to not have prestatibilities. They have something on

(30:15):
the on the on the on the board that they
can look at.

Speaker 2 (30:17):
You just run the highlights for the last two years
and say here's what not to do.

Speaker 9 (30:22):
Really start right, Well, at least they know what it
looks like with their group, you know, with the with
the title, I know it's well to get the Titans,
I get it. They would get to j V. But still, Man,
at least some kind of baby staff to move forward with,
you know, moving forward they can a little bit of
confidence through something to know what it looks like because

(30:42):
it looks and you know, even though the first half
was the first half was it was horrible as far
as offense goes. It just you know, at least they
know what to do and how it looks. Anyway, going
with the Rockets, Man, Kevin Durant, what a difference year Banks.
I just think this guy's is healthy. Sky's limits for us,

(31:02):
even with even with for in Vestley being injured, Dan
what do you think do you think with that, do
they get an exemption for a player injury for that
caliber and so how much is it and what free
agents are there they might be able to get. I mean,
I'd like to have the other Holiday brother on our team.
That's doable. But you know, that's really all I have.

(31:25):
Fellas have a great one.

Speaker 2 (31:27):
I appreciate it.

Speaker 6 (31:29):
I mean, I know that when Ari was in here,
he mentioned a disabled player exception that they could possibly
be able to use. I mean, at least from the
early going, it sounds like from what he made a
Doka told Matt and Ross yesterday that it's gonna be
by committee. I mean, reach Shepherd go with there on
holiday maybe even at times, you know, a men Thompson

(31:49):
there at the point. But I think they're going to
start out that way. I mean, and when the when
the news happened, that's the way that I thought it
was going to break down, Sean, is that they'll they'll
start out with those guys and then if they feel
like at the deadline that some sort of acquisitions need
to be made, some sort of upgrade anybody else like that,
that's a possibility, but it also at least from what

(32:09):
I know was gathering yesterday, I don't think that they're
counting on Fred being done for the year. Like I
think that they believe that he attacks this rehab that
maybe close to the playoffs that he could be back
and then you know, I guess you would hope at
that point that he's able to go.

Speaker 2 (32:25):
Say we're October. Tomorrow's first of October, right, right, So
where got October? The season ends in June the NBA Championship,
So how many all of October, November, December, January, February, March,
April May. If you get to the NBA Finals, you're
asking a guy who's got quick twitch and cutting all
the time. Now, if it was a meniscus or an mcl,

(32:51):
I would say, yes, an ACL, Right, dude, that's on
a hard one floor. Yeah that's hard because that's awfully ambitious.
It's awfully ambitious, and I understand and maybe, but by
the time you get back and get in basketball shape
and all that you got to go through. This used
to be about a fourteen month injury when iouncer, and

(33:12):
then we saw guys get back in nine months and
eight months and then ten months. I just don't see
how even if he made it in seven months, that
gets you to April. So you're du getting the plus
depending on where they are. You'd like to have it,
but I can't imagine you'd get any more than postseason
or late season.

Speaker 10 (33:32):
Now.

Speaker 2 (33:32):
If you get it, you get it. But it's awfully
ambitious to think that he can come back in eight
or nine months and be fully ready to go. And
is it worth that risk to come back premature? This
is one of those I always say, if you think
you're ready, take an extra two weeks to a month
with an injury like that or in Achilles, because I've
seen I saw Dante Culpepper when Saban was there. Remember

(33:54):
when he came from Minnesota, was the quarterback in Miami
and he'd had that knee injury and came back from
it and they put put in Dude, he was still
limping in the pocket and Culpepper was a hell of
a player in Minnesota. Limping in the pocket he was
he never had he didn't have any more movement in
the rest of it, and he was never the same.
How do you waited a month? Who knows what would
have happened. I just I think it's offul ambitious. If

(34:15):
you're the Rockets and if you're a fan, do not
prepare for Fred van Vliet to be your point guard
before April. And if he is your point guard when
he comes back, then it's a blessing. But you got
to prepare this season and the way you go about
your personnel like Van Vliet's not going to play for it,
that's off. That's that's a bit ambitious for me.

Speaker 6 (34:33):
Get to know Aaron Holliday, get to know Reed Shepherd
is what it sounds like John and Jason Warrike in
you want to join him? Someone three two on two
five seven ninety can got someone three two on two
at five seven ninety. It is the Shawn Salisbury Show
right here on Sports Talk seven ninety. But I tell
you guys all the time about Kobe Stevens Apparel, and
for good reason too, because the stuff that my guy,

(34:56):
Kobe and the crew over there put out absolute aces.
And just yesterday, my guy's hanging out with mattress Mac.
He's over there at the swing for the Sunshine Kids
Golf tournament that was happening out there at Northgate at
Northgate Country Club, and they're having a great time.

Speaker 2 (35:13):
And that's what Kobe and the crew do.

Speaker 6 (35:14):
I've told you that it's golf tournament season, so you
know that if you're out at one, more than likely
you're going to see that tent out there with the
CS on it, and you know that they're gonna have
great things like polos, t shirts, hats, shorts, ladies and
youth options available in there. Like I said, I mean,
your fit might be good on the course that day,
but then you might be seeing HM next time I

(35:35):
throw the clubs in the car.

Speaker 2 (35:36):
I want to be wearing that.

Speaker 6 (35:37):
I want to be feeling good and looking good out
on the course, and Kobe Stevens Apparel can make that
happen for you. Kobe Stevens dot Com the place to
go to for those college football polos that are out
there right now. You got the purple and gold, you
got the maroon and white, you got the burn orange
and white. How about that red and white. It's gonna
come in handy this Saturday night's over there in third
ward for a matchup of unbeaten teams taking on each

(35:59):
other of there, and you want to be looking good
when you walk through the gates right there at TDECU Stadium.
Kobe Stevens dot Com. The summer line is still available
even though we're in the fall. Look, the equinox happened
last week, but don't you notice that Tempts are still
in the mid nineties. So yeah, the summer line is
still in play for you again. Right there at Kobe
Stevens dot Com. It's Kobe Stevens Apparel, Kobe Stevens dot Com,

(36:21):
Kobe Stephens dot Com, Coby Stevens with a V that's
at the end. It's Kobe Stevens Apparel, Kobe Stevens dot Com.

Speaker 2 (36:29):
You're back. This is the Sean Salisbury Show. Get back
at it morning, Jason.

Speaker 11 (36:38):
You know, I normally wouldn't do this, but I here
mister Sean talking about the Saints. I grew up in
Louisiana on the Saints fan, and you know a lot
of us did kind of want Aaron Glenn to be
the coach, but they went with Kellen Moore. And seeing
the results between the two, with the way Kellen Moore
runs the offense and the way airon you know, doing

(37:00):
it up there in New York, I mean, I think
we kind of made the right choice. I mean, we're
keeping the games close a lot of people thought we
would get spanked by the Bills, but we only lost
by eleven. I mean, we're doing things that are going
towards the right direction. But like I mean, if I
had a choice between the two, I like what killing

(37:23):
Moore is doing. I just I see a lot of upside.
The only problem I have with is would be the quarterback.
And my question to mister Sean is, you know, with
everything going on, we know the issues with the cap
space over there in New Orleans, we know the GM
you know, basically in cap Hill, I was a little

(37:45):
surprised Kellen Moore took the job. So I mean, I'm
just curious as to why killing Moore would have honestly
made that decision. That would have been you know, had
more options.

Speaker 2 (37:56):
All right, Jason, before you go, let me just make
let's say I don't know what you do, but let's
say you are a manager of a group, or you're
like a vice president your company, whatever it is, and
then somebody offers you a startup, which is kind of
what the Saints are right now when you look at

(38:17):
their personnel just because of cap Hell, let's just look
at it like that, and they call you up and say, hey, man,
you've never been a president of a company. I know
you're a vice president. We're going to give you a
three million dollar pay raise with some bonuses and a
chance to build something special. And it's your first chance
as a president. And you never know if you're going

(38:38):
to be a president again of a company, just like
you never know if you're going to be a head coach.
A lot of guys have done it once and never
got another chance. And he's not been a head coach before.
So they're bringing it. They say they're going to commit
to it. You say, it's New Orleans great football history.
When it comes to some struggles over the history and
some good stuff. Yeah, yeah, and we'll offer you that
you want to come be a part of it. Why
wouldn't he take it? Would you take it? You got

(39:00):
to move, But we're gonna, we're gonna. We're gonna quadruple
your salary, give you the power to run an organization.
It's a startup, but you know it's your first chance
to do it, which you've worked your ass off your
whole life to do it. Would you take it?

Speaker 12 (39:15):
If they fully gave me control?

Speaker 2 (39:17):
No, no, no, no, no. I've set in the rules. I'm
the GM. I just asked you would you you're the
head coach, you get you get, you don't get full control.
If you're the president, you get control over your staff.
You don't get control over the CEO, and just like
you don't get control over the GM. There right now,
you take it, correct?

Speaker 11 (39:34):
I would take it for the experience, yes.

Speaker 2 (39:36):
Well, or to win and turn a franchise around and
be a hero. Correct. Okay, did I answer your questions?
Why he'd take it? Obviously nobody else offered him a
head coaching job, and and you make a great point
why But I can tell you this. Everybody thinks they'll
fix it when you're in that position. And the truth is,
Kellen Moore never knew or never knows. He thought he

(39:59):
was probably gonna get a chain. It has to get
the Dallas shop, and he had to leave and go
to Philadelphia. Who's to say he's ever going to get
another chance. Now, if they suck, he may not get
another chance. But if you're a great coach and like
a challenge, he's got one in New Orleans. And so
I would imagine you'd feel the same way, like I'm
going to go fix this and I think that's part
of it. And you think, well, I can turn you know,
Spencer Rattler into a player. We're going to get better eventually,

(40:21):
we're going to get out of cap hell. I signed
a five year deal, so I'm pretty or whatever it
was for, I'm not even sure what he signed four
or five year deal, and so that's all guaranteed, so
you know, you get a little leeway and if they
get rid of it, you're still getting paid. Why my question is,
why wouldn't he take it? Now? If he had five
offers and it was the Saints, the Cowboys, the Patriots,
the Tennessee Titans, and the Buffalo Bills, oh, a different story.

(40:45):
But there's one offer in it, and it's you know,
you're making now life changing money and an opportunity. You
can see why he'd change it. Jason, good point, good question,
and I hope the Saints get it fixed. But unfortunately
right now they are just undermanned and overwhelmed. They just
talk bad football, so oh, it can always be worth
There's more bad football being played in this league more

(41:06):
now than I've ever seen, especially in the first month
normally training camp, and when you get out it is
bad early, but right around now you start to seeing
them get back into it. I've never seen more bad
football all around in a league. There is far more
bad football than there is good football. Right every week.
Some of it, about sixty to seventy percent of it,
is quite frankly unwatchable for your eyes.

Speaker 6 (41:25):
Well in the Texans, for about forty minutes played bad
football too well.

Speaker 2 (41:28):
They were offensively unwatchable for three weeks. They got watchable
in the late in the third to the fourth quarter
of this past week. So it's a good start to
go the other way. Their defense is worth the price
of admission. The offense has been worth the price of
a of when you're sixty five and you get the
two dollars movie ticket. Okay, so it's time for them
to pick that thing up.

Speaker 6 (41:47):
Too, Mattinade prices for prime time performance, that's what.

Speaker 2 (41:50):
They should start doing that. When you have to watch
the Jets on a national game, they ought to send
you a fifty dollars discount for the money you're going
to be paying for your future subscription, a free sweatshirt
that if you're a Jets fan, you probably don't want it.
You'd send it back. Come on the NFL doesn't think
that way. Yeah, they think about how they make more
models to be able to watch us. Oh, shut that
the way around. Yeah, Well, when I can take a

(42:11):
bunch of college guys and have them play better than
the that the Saints and the Jets should be playing
on on on Fridays or Saturdays right now as opposed
to Sundays, Yeah, okay, yeah, well we'll have that competition
right now. I feel like I can get eleven guys
that played that are three years out of the league
to go compete with them. For some of these teams,
it's a hard watch. There's some good teams, but the
separation between the good and the bad is a long distance.

Speaker 1 (42:33):
Man.

Speaker 6 (42:34):
We'll get back into the football conversation Texans, everything of
the sort, even a little bit of college because somebody's
got an interesting idea to be able to curb those penalties.

Speaker 2 (42:43):
We'll do all of that right here.

Speaker 6 (42:44):
Sean Salisbury Show, Sports Talk seven ninety, John workI into
right here on the Teano Tuesday.

Speaker 2 (42:50):
Kd E Houston, KTDHD two Houston. An I heard radio
station as a rocket is Sports Talk seven ninety your
home for your home teams from the Parsons that match.
Next studios say, okay, let's do this.

Speaker 3 (43:17):
Sewn Salisbury to usc troupe, longtime friend Shawn Salisbury.

Speaker 2 (43:23):
Dan matthewscuse, this is the Seawan Salisbury Show.

Speaker 6 (43:32):
Joe Spatta and Dana Brown can meet with the media
A little bit later on the day. Texans are off
from the practice field, but they're getting ready for the
Ravens Sunday in Baltimore, and Kevin Durant says he intends
to sign a contract extension with the Rockets. Let's get
in a little bit of astros because I mentioned this
earlier and we got some of the calls, so when't

(43:52):
able to get to it at the time. But the
Mets yesterday announced that Carlos Mendoza, the manager, he's going
to be back, which a spot I go into the
podium today, I think would probably tell you that, Uh,
I think that they would delay this if if the
the postseason taking inventory was the possibility that the manager
would be gone, well, then I think that you probably

(44:15):
wouldn't have him at the podium today talking about not
only the past, but also dealing with the off season
and the present and then the future.

Speaker 2 (44:23):
So like an exit season, interview, right, but the press conference,
they we'll look forward to spring training right now. If
they canceled the press conference today, then now you're talking
about a different story. If they all of a sudden
say we're going to delay the press conference till tomorrow
or late and then then then you're it's not gonna
because somebody's got the flu. Okay, So that that's that.

(44:44):
If all of a sudden today it's been delayed. Yeah,
your your ears and eyes better get big and open
because something's coming down to Pike. Keep those notifications for
that's for Jeff Passening. That's exactly right. So who knows.
I mean, I don't think that's gonna happen. But that's when
you know, if it's on schedule, it makes no sense
to be talking about the future and then two days

(45:04):
later you got a different manager at GM. Yeah, right,
But I don't think that's gonna happen now, it doesn't
sound like it.

Speaker 6 (45:09):
So I think that Joe is gonna be just like
Carlos Mendoza because a lot of people thought, you know,
in funny enough, I mean the same deal, both guys
that would be going into their third seasons. But the
report out of New York is that the manager is fine,
but everybody else is up for grabs. I think that
here the roadmap is very similar. Josh Miller is not
up for grabs. He's fine Tony, Paris, Chica.

Speaker 2 (45:31):
Why would you get rid of unless you're getting elevation
to a manager?

Speaker 13 (45:34):
Right?

Speaker 2 (45:34):
Why would you let him walk? Considering the success of
this pitching staff with all the injuries and still had success. Yeah, no,
then a good job, no so.

Speaker 6 (45:42):
I But I do think that everybody else is probably
open to a chance. And here's something that I thought
about last night is let's just say you do make
a hitting coach change, Sean, they could go within the
building because Dave Clark's been at hitting coach before. Now,
if I'm the Astros and you're making that change, avoid
what the guys over the football counterparts off Kirby what

(46:06):
they did of Let's go familiarity doing things like that,
you go from outside the building, you go a different voice.

Speaker 2 (46:13):
Well, I think different voices are important to shake up
the to shake up the old boys network. We all,
I mean, and baseball is big on it. Football has
it all the time. Hire your buddy. Sometimes that works
a lot of times it doesn't. So every now and again,
if you're making a change, it's okay to go outside
the building as long as that person understands the culture

(46:34):
coming in and what you have the expectations you say,
I'm a big plan, your work, work, your plan, and
when you define roles and what to expect, it's easier
if you're trying to If you don't define a role,
tell the guys in the building and halfway through it,
it's not good. You got to define them right off
the bat. And if they're not following them or doing
the right way, then you replace that person too. So yeah,
I'm with you. There is a outside voices and especially

(46:59):
somebody who just I got to have somebody challenge the system,
and any coach, when I say, challenge it respectfully because
if everybody's a yes man, you just don't get better.
And and and in this day and age of player empowerment,
you've got to sift through that and not be afraid
to hurt a player's feelings respectfully. But you know what,
it's just, it's the way is we we've turned it

(47:20):
over to where I mean, you will not last long.
They will trample you if they know they can.

Speaker 6 (47:26):
Well I mean, and especially to a veteran clubhouse like this,
of I mean, what are you going to tell jose
L Tuve?

Speaker 2 (47:34):
How are you going to tell him the hits you're
not and you still got to coach him. I turned
down the You know, if I get offered, I'm gonna
turn out of the coach and the hitting. If if
they get rid of Centron and he's not there, I'm
going to turn down the because you don't have full
confined well yeah, I mean, I'm looking to be a manager,
but hitting is struck. I'm just sleeping. Keep teaching apotaco,
inside out, drive everything the other way. The Derek Jeter

(47:55):
school is hitting the there you go if you like what, yeah,
how does do that? I'm probably gonna turn that down. Okay,
so don't look here. I'd be a good voice, you know,
to with drawing yourself from consideration already, I guess my favorite. Well, guys, hey,
I'm going to take myself out of the running. Why
because I'm not getting interviewing. That's my favorite here. That'll
hey listen, because you his name mentioned among fifteen guys.

(48:17):
I've taken myself out of the college coaching job at
Arkansas oh did they call Did they call you?

Speaker 11 (48:22):
No?

Speaker 1 (48:23):
Oh?

Speaker 6 (48:23):
Okay, okay great? So were you ever really in consideration
in his own mind? I think it was other people
who put you in consideration, not necessarily fifty guys that
are going to be interviewed for the job or we're
going to talk to and you're forty eighth on the list.
Probably good idea to pass it up. Yeah, yeah, save
yourself the embarrassment. But another thing that was kind of
embarrassing this year. Something else I'd mentioned is the stolen

(48:46):
bases allowed. Codify Baseball put together all of the teams.
The Astros allowed the second most stolen bases this year,
one hundred and fifty seven.

Speaker 2 (48:54):
See the naked eye didn't lie, did it. The only
team that was worse was the Miami Marlins, and that
was their record. It wasn't that much different from yours.

Speaker 6 (49:02):
But I mean, they actually got better this Yeah, I
was gonna say it was an improved season. Alb Andy
McCullough their their manager formerly the Dodgers, So I mean
it's I guess they're due to finally start to play
winning baseball again down there are.

Speaker 2 (49:16):
And they've had some times where they did play winning baseball.
They need it back, there's no doubt.

Speaker 6 (49:20):
Well, but they it's almost been unintentionally that you know, hey,
you know, we're not really trying to win here, but
look at that. We got really good players, so we'll
win and then we'll just let everybody go.

Speaker 2 (49:33):
Oh, that happens in a lot of places, right, Oh,
just when you start to deserve your pay raise, Yeah,
you're getting it somewhere else.

Speaker 6 (49:39):
It's like if Tampa Bay had ever won, then they
would have just been like, okay, you know, see everybody,
Like if they had won that you know, Bubble World Series, Well,
then you know you're gonna see everybody somewhere else. And
then get to know a bunch of you guys that
you're just like, who the hell are these guys?

Speaker 2 (49:54):
And then somehow they've always find two or three they're like, damn,
or the guy's really good. You know, hey, how can
you right.

Speaker 6 (50:00):
Away Chris Archer because we got this glass now guy
at them and Jake Bowers and a few other guys
that are pretty good.

Speaker 2 (50:07):
Yep. And then oh, Glassdown's gotten really good. He's a
cy young guy. Every year. Well let's let's get let's
let him old.

Speaker 6 (50:12):
They were almost Dodgers. They were almost known as the organization.
And if they call you for a trade, then you
need to tell him, hey, give me one second, put
it on mute. Why are they asking about that guy?
I don't know, you know, we don't really have him
rated that high. Why are they asking about him? You're
not answering my question, so.

Speaker 2 (50:28):
That the bottom mine is rate him higher because they
know something. I was gonna say, they see something in
this guy, exactly right. Look, I mean there's been a
time too that the Astros have had.

Speaker 6 (50:38):
That where absolutely I mean, you know, you make the
trade for Miles Straw and you get Phil Maton, who
now is a good high leverage guy, and then yeah,
I know he didn't have a great year, but Einer
Diaz another guy that came out of that. So I
mean there there is power to being able to evaluate talent, but.

Speaker 2 (50:54):
In the postseason or down to stretch. Remember when Mayton
was here, there was a point time where he was
a bulldog. Didn't It was like you needed him and
you could count on him on a regular basis. So yeah,
it's there are certain people that seem to know a
little more and maybe jump all over those guys. The
emotionless robots.

Speaker 6 (51:08):
Real quick here before we get to the stake out,
let's bring in John John Good morning, Hey.

Speaker 7 (51:13):
Good morning guys. A couple of things I want to
talk about the Astros real quick, and then a touch
on the Rockets. Ye know, I wanted to follow up
what I was saying yesterday, you know, as far as
losing some key front office people like James Click back
in the day when you look, you know, I agree
that Bochi would it would be an ideal landing spot
for him in Baltimore if you look at their front office.

(51:35):
I mean back when we were losing some of these
people in the front office. I mean that's what Baltimore.
Baltimore grabbed a lot of our folks.

Speaker 3 (51:42):
You know.

Speaker 7 (51:42):
They Mike Elias, who won awards and everything. He's been outstanding.
He's now been elevated based president of Baseball Operation, said
Mensdal and Eve Rosenbomb who did a great job as
an international scouting manager, and then Brendan Fournier. Those are
all the guys that built the Astros and they're doing
it in Baltimore. And uh, you know, like Sean you said,

(52:03):
you know, plan your work and work your plan.

Speaker 1 (52:05):
I would just be curious what.

Speaker 7 (52:06):
The Astros plan is moving forward. I mean, we knew
what it was years ago. I would like to know
what their what their plan is now. And then secondly,
get into the Rockets. I think they're going to have
to make a trade for a point guard, and there's
a lot of rumors with the Celtics. I think Derek
White's going to be hard to get. But you know,

(52:27):
there's there's people like Peyton Pritchard who is younger, could
be a cheaper guard, and Anthony Simons who would who
would provide a significant offensive boost.

Speaker 1 (52:38):
But I just think that the Rockets.

Speaker 7 (52:40):
Are going to have to do that. They're going to
have to invest in a point guard and maybe trade
away some draft picks and stuff. But I think it'd
be worth it for them to do it. And anyways,
that's what I want to weigh in on.

Speaker 1 (52:50):
Thanks guys.

Speaker 6 (52:50):
Yeah, I appreciate John. You know, we'll continue the Rockets conversation.
You know Strows, I mean, you know, mentioning Baltimore. I mean,
I would think that that's going to be a highly
coveted job out there for anybody. I mean, if you
want to go any of the guys that just got
let go. I mean for Bochee, I mean, I think
he looks at that job and says, you know, yeah,
you got the Yankees there, you got the Red Sox there,

(53:12):
you got Toronto there. But it's not exactly like this
team's that far away from being able to turn the corner.
And if there's a guy that knows how to turn
an organization around the corner, well he's done it at
two different spots.

Speaker 2 (53:24):
It's Bruce Boche. Now, well, if you're Baltimore and you
don't make the call, you're dumb and you just say,
you're exactly right, we're on the cusp. And they've been
on the cusp for a couple of years. A matter
of fact, they were the en Vogue pick the last
few years. There's people saying that they were going to
be the team here exactly right, and it just you know,
you ran into whatever for the reason and your manager
gets fired early in the season and you're not going well.

(53:44):
But when you take a look at the roster and
they ain't far off, and you know, I mean when
they let Corbyn Burns walk to and stuff, I mean,
you can't let core of your club leave. Some teams
do and are able to recover. But Baltimore's got a
bunch of young budding stars and some are already there
that are all stars. It would be intriguing, I'm sure
for Boach. The question is how many of them are
gonna or how many other teams and San Francisco and

(54:07):
teams like that gonna call him. But if you're Baltimore,
you have to make the call. You may get turned down,
but you have to because if if his history is anything,
Boach knows how to get you to win right away.
He's pretty damn good at it. And this will be
a listen you go there, young talent. When was the
last time Boach he coached the team with this kind
of young talented superstars. I mean, he had some veteran
superstars here that could hit, but even in San Francisco

(54:30):
he had one true superstar. Now, I had good pitching
in all his world series, but then they had a
couple of them go through there. But you think Posey,
who is the guy who is the general manager. So
if Posey loved Boach, there's no way Posey hasn't already
talked to him. He may have sent him the text
for the second he found out you say, hey, Boach,
you want to talk tomorrow, I'm flying into Texas or

(54:54):
if it's in Nashville, you want to go to you
want to go to a country b have a cold
beer and then let's have a little commercial meature for there. Yeah,
I might get me a bourbon there you go. So
I would imagine that they'll be calls. But Baltimore has
got to be an intriguing job for anybody because of
the wow talent that they have on that roster.

Speaker 6 (55:15):
Yeah, definitely one that Uh, if you got an opportunity,
you could definitely go through a lot worse. All Right,
So opportunities money can't buy you class. I heard that
saying once. Well, in this case, it can't buy you
brains either. We'll discuss that here as it is a
stakeout here on a Tejano Tuesday Sports Talk seven to ninety.

The Sean Salisbury Show continues to no Now you know
all right, Sean, what are you hearing on there now?

Speaker 3 (58:00):
The Salsbury's takeout, Salsi Takeout on the Sean Salisbury Show.

Speaker 6 (58:10):
It is Teano Tuesday. Here on the Seawn Salisbury Show.
Stakeout time though, Joe a spot at, Dana Brown gonna
meet with the media a little bit later on the day,
Bruce Bochee not gonna return as the manager of the Rangers,
and Kevin Durant tends on signing a contract extension of
state with the Rockets. All right, Sean, So when it

(58:30):
came time for three kids, right, you got three?

Speaker 2 (58:33):
Two? How many?

Speaker 14 (58:34):
Right?

Speaker 2 (58:35):
I have three kids, two boys and a girl. All right,
so the youngest.

Speaker 6 (58:39):
So you know, one of the biggest things is the name.
It when it comes down to the name, and you
and the wife you know, hey, you know, does his
name sound good?

Speaker 9 (58:47):
Ah?

Speaker 2 (58:48):
Not so sure?

Speaker 1 (58:48):
You know.

Speaker 6 (58:49):
Then you get down to middle names. Usually it's grandfather's names, somebody.
It's a family name one way or another. That that
comes through.

Speaker 2 (58:57):
Why you're eating like a pizza you know what I mean,
like a pizza nuts? Oh god, his asked triple a
damn it got his asked. I'm just mowing you down.
See I'm with you.

Speaker 6 (59:09):
You are opposing teams, and I am the Astros from
trying to keep you from stealing second bag.

Speaker 2 (59:14):
You're the Jets. Yeah, I just I just caught the
ball in the second yard line.

Speaker 6 (59:19):
I just did when you told me, not when you
told me to put on the on the ten. I
went all the way back to the two and fair
caught it and started looked behind you like it was
somebody else. Yeah, hey, what what you wait a minute?
Who fair caught this ball? You fair caught the ball.
My timing was pretty impeccable. That really, you're end of
this telling the story about kids names? I said, yeah,

(59:39):
and you're having pizza while you're naming it. Give you
a pizza the nuts. Yeah, I'm aware. Don't need to replay.
I'm good, I'll wear it. Sure, fine, I'll go ahead.

Speaker 2 (59:50):
Over he reads beat the Dodgers today, anyway? Go ahead?

Speaker 6 (59:53):
Oh I like that idea. Yeah, you get the wild
card happening too. But Taylor A Humphrey is a and
it always starts this way, A TikTok era entrepreneur who
almost has like a And I hear this all the time.
A beast spoke business. I don't even get this, but anyway,
she's charging couples in Silicon Valley thirty thousand dollars for

(01:00:16):
her naming services for kids. She's thirty seven years old,
now has one hundred thousand combined followers on TikTok and Instagram,
and an ever expanding portfolio of five hundred children's names
that she helped select. And some of her clients include
high profile celebrities to the anonymously rich. So you need

(01:00:39):
to pay thirty thousand dollars for Hey, guess what, Taylor,
we're between Michael and Mitchell?

Speaker 2 (01:00:45):
Which one sounds better?

Speaker 15 (01:00:47):
Say?

Speaker 2 (01:00:47):
She's not dumb, She's brilliant. And I'm gonna tell you why,
because she knows the rest of the world is dumb.
Now she doesn't know my family, has no idea of
the history or anything. And you say, hey, pick a name.

Speaker 15 (01:00:59):
Out for.

Speaker 2 (01:01:01):
Now. How dumb do you have to be to pay
somebody thirty grand to name their child Apples Salisbury, yeah,
and orange Salsberry. Here's where you know to go the
other way with it. Whenever there's mega rich that are
dumb enough to pay thirty grand for it, or celebrity names,
that's when you say, you know what and the fact

(01:01:21):
that they have to set well, she's name is. I
want her to name the average person, the person who
makes you know, a school teacher and a construction worker
like you know, or a hairdresser or a cake decorator.
My family and a construction worker. Yeah, name our kids.
My dad would have looked there like, are you out
of your damn mind. I'm gonna give you five bucks
for that. I'll name my own kid. So on the
same way. First of all, you know nothing about me,

(01:01:42):
so you're not naming my kid sege. It's such a
lazy and you know what it is, it's all optics
for the person to do well, like I got enough money.
Oh yeah, I paid somebody thirty grand to name my kid. Well,
what does she know about you? Well, I gave her
my resume. I mean, how do you how do you
justify that? I don't care if you've got ten billion dollars.
First off, I'd never paid five million dollars for a wedding,
even if it's five. No, I'm not doing it. And

(01:02:03):
I'm sure as hell not paying thirty grand even if
I got Elon Musk Bezos, Warren Buffett money combined. Guess
what I'm not doing. I'm not paying somebody five dollars
to name my kid. Now, if it's a family member,
we sit around say what do you guys think? Or
you do a fun little contest within the family, but
then I have the right to reject it. But thirty
grand for that, I mean, how stupid. She's brilliant because

(01:02:26):
she knows you can find somebody who's dumber than the
next guy. And that to me, And like I said,
your first red flag is hey, celebrities pay me now.
Guess what, Hey, I'll never pay you a dime, let
alone thirty grand and name my kid since it's rich
people in celebrities, just what I want? Even name my

(01:02:48):
kid North thanks or Apple?

Speaker 1 (01:02:52):
Great?

Speaker 2 (01:02:53):
Hey, what's your kid's name? Tangerine?

Speaker 1 (01:02:56):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (01:02:56):
Thanks, man, that sounds like a great name. Here's thirty grand.
Let me give you a ten thousand dollars bonus because
I'm dumber than you are. She's brilliant next Karen Adam Right,
she knew she could move in on people that have
money and just got to find something to spend it on,
kind of celebrities. Yeah, that's where I want to take
all my information from a celebrity.

Speaker 6 (01:03:14):
Kind of reminds me of we had a coach in
school and kind of protect the names, to protect the
innocent here. But one of the guys in our class,
you know, he was not the brightest bulb in the bunch,
and I just remember the coach finally just goes, son,
your parents better be rich.

Speaker 2 (01:03:31):
Uh yeah, yeah. Oh there's more of those that exist, man,
Or that you looked at, you done, and you kind
of look at him and they say, why are you
shaking your head? You'll know eventually your parents already do it. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
I trust me, man, you know. Yeah.

Speaker 6 (01:03:46):
Anyway, so yeah, thirty thousand dollars for kids' names.

Speaker 2 (01:03:51):
Well, let me tell you. Let's say you're struggling to
find a kid's name and you got a billion dollars,
write it down on a list, and start going through
and taking off what you don't want, right, it's really
that's safe. You are even with a billion dollars, are
you actually paying no thirty grand? No, no, I listen

(01:04:11):
and anybody that does then right then I already got
to look at like, okay.

Speaker 6 (01:04:18):
Well, I mean some would tell you, you know, do the
stamp would sucker on it?

Speaker 2 (01:04:22):
No tattoo that on. Oh yeah, no, no questions.

Speaker 6 (01:04:25):
We'll walk around with the scarlet letter and let everybody know.
Oh hey you paid the thirty grand too. Hey man, yeah,
people in your foreheads. People will blame her. Oh no, no,
she's brilliant for doing it. It's like when a player
asked for ten million. You know, Oh, man, he wants
a ten million dollars pay raise and the organization gives
it to him, and you're mad at the agent and
the player.

Speaker 2 (01:04:44):
Well, what are you meant at them for? Yeah, they're
the ones who paid it. Yeah, you asked if they
paid it. Talk to the people who paid it. That's
the ones you should go to. You should go to
the agent and the player, say these guys are what
a brilliant marketing plan didn't save Kelvin Cato. Did he
get paid? Though he did, but it didn't get paid.

Speaker 6 (01:05:00):
But it always cracks me up though, you know, fans
Calvin Cato, I'm like, well, the Rockets were the ones
who paid them, So I think you're upset with the
wrong people.

Speaker 2 (01:05:07):
That's what I'm saying. If I pay you, and I'll
overpay you by five million, you don't live up to
a quarter of it. Whose fault is that that's.

Speaker 6 (01:05:14):
Because fans will always cite with the organization over the
player every single time.

Speaker 2 (01:05:18):
And I listen, Now, if you're holding out and you
ask for more money and I don't pay it to you,
kudos to the organization. But if you pay, don't be
bad at the guy for asking, because all of us
will ask for Oh, I'm gonna go way in high
and I'm sure they're gonna come down low. I was
going to say they took my offer. Now I'm in
Noah exactly. So with this lady, she won't be the
first one. Now. Watch that's all she's doing it all

(01:05:39):
the loss competation, jump on board. We're all copycats. You
just change the name and change how your approaches and
change your marketing plan.

Speaker 6 (01:05:46):
Well, you know, if I start showing up in here,
you know, starts doing some quilting and knitting in the
in the middle of it, then you're gonna have a
good idea.

Speaker 2 (01:05:53):
There will be signs. Because you're a great singer, a
good actor, or a celebrity at some point doesn't make
you a smart decision maker. Okay, And paying thirty grand, yeah,
I would imagine most of their financial advisors if they
have one to say, you know what, as much money
as you make that thirty grand, there're somebody who ain't
isn't gonna eat for the next two years. Go give
that to them. But it's their money. They can do
what they want. If they're dumb enough to do that,

(01:06:13):
then aimen, She'll get rich off this. The Yeah, gonna
she's gonna be printing money because people are stupid. They
really are. You can't you dude, you can't fix dumb.

Speaker 6 (01:06:24):
I mean, look, and if people want to get upset
with her, I think her response should be, it's not
my responsibility to look out for the intelligence level of
other people.

Speaker 2 (01:06:31):
That's on them, that's not on me, Or she'd be
dead by the time she's thirty trying to look out.
If she did that, she'd be on a lifetime path
of looking. When you see that much stupidity in the world,
she would get out of the bus. She goes at
some point she's gonna look, she got to wake up
in the more they could. Could you believe this? They're
paying me thirty grand to pick names for them. See
any dumber Let me double down.

Speaker 6 (01:06:52):
On this, just just go on social media on a
daily basis or get in your car and just drive around.

Speaker 2 (01:06:56):
Trust me, you'll see it. Or you could catch a
ball at the two yard line on a fair count. Yeah,
do you know what? If she's smart, call that guy. Yeah,
I don't know. I don't even remember who it was.
Called that guy. Hey, he's got he's gotta have thirty grands,
he's spent, he's having his wife's having a baby. Call him. Why, Well,
he's not a real good decision maker, So call him
and call his coach too, because apparently he doesn't coach

(01:07:17):
him well enough to do that either. Yeah.

Speaker 6 (01:07:19):
Well, maybe coaching tactics that do involve money do work,
and somebody actually has an idea. We'll share that with
you right here. It does the Sean Salisbury Show on
a Taijana Tuesday, Sports Talk seven ninety and.

Speaker 2 (01:07:32):
The Shawn Salisbury Show continued. But we've seen fines. I
doubt it. You get a name. I don't think I
can do that on my own, didn't Jim Croach? You
see that I got a name? You sure did? I
got a name? Great?

Speaker 6 (01:07:47):
Yeah, But so we've seen fines used in numerous ways,
either you know, direct punishment because you went against the team,
anything like that, even you know he showed up late.

Speaker 2 (01:07:58):
Any of those different things.

Speaker 6 (01:08:00):
Mike Elko is taking the tactic to a new height
because apparently the Aggies have had troubles with penalties. Well,
Mike Elko sharing an idea that he's floated around to
not only help the team but also help the coaches.

Speaker 14 (01:08:15):
I'll let you guys in so so I've tried all
kinds of things. So today what we started was the
Texas A and M Football Coaches Cabo Fund. And so
what's going to happen now is every time one of
our players gets a penalty, they're going to contribute to
the coaches Cabo Fund. And so I'll see if that works.

Speaker 2 (01:08:35):
So there you go. He's got to be joking, right,
and you hear you heard the laughter in the background.
But I'm assuming he's joking. I would I would like
the idea. Yeah, I would think he is. But I mean,
I don't know if you threw it out there.

Speaker 6 (01:08:45):
Maybe it's something of Hey, guess what, guys, We funnel
the money through name, image and likeness to you guys.

Speaker 2 (01:08:50):
So well, when you.

Speaker 6 (01:08:52):
Notice your next check comes through, hey, why is there
one hundred dollars missing?

Speaker 1 (01:08:55):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (01:08:56):
That nice little false start you had that set us
back to third and fifteen.

Speaker 2 (01:09:00):
Coaches aren't addressed on the practice field, they also need
to throw some into that coach's cabo fun too, if
that's the case. So while the players accountable, like I said,
there are certain penalties that are just not only insufferable,
but you just can't have and so I don't blame it.
And obviously he's now somebody's going to take it. So
that's abuse. You can't do that to the kid. Well, nowadays,

(01:09:20):
the kid makes money on nil. You should be able
to do it. They're pros. We had two funny thing
my rookie year. I'm in Seattle and this was before
before all this, you know, the way they did the
salary cap, and this didn't affect it. I mean, you
could do this. Chuck Knox old KG veteran, Chuck great coach, right,

(01:09:40):
I mean, coached some of the greatest of all time.
And I loved having him as a coach as a rookie,
and he loved veterans, but he also loved his players,
and he let us police ourselves go into preseason. We
started in the preseason and then when the regular season started,
they have one hundred dollars in cash. You start off,
and we called it the dash for cap uh and

(01:10:01):
I was I played at sixty five two thirty five
on the practice field, is a third string quarterback As
a rookie, I'd played wide receiver, tight end, move h back,
full back and talk for a part of scouts. Yeah,
but not like they did. Yeah, well very rarely because
they didn't want to talk to me because I wasn't playing,
which is a novel concept talk to the guys that
are So I had to. I learned a lot of

(01:10:21):
you know, I had to go up in there and
hit the mental linebacker on a motion and like, I'm
a quarterback, what the hell am I doing? But it's
they figured at six five two thirty, we're going to
utilize the bodies we can. So you do that on
scout team and during training camp when you weren't getting
your own reps and when the season started, so it
was a dash for cash. Chuck Knox would come in
and with a wat of cash like in his hand,

(01:10:43):
be like twenty five thirty grand sit in his hand.
And we had phenomenal special teams. Rusty Tillman was a
phenomenal special teams coach, and we were damn good at it.
And part of it was the astead of a cash. Now,
as a rookie, I made eighty two five hundred dollars
and I thought I was rich eighty two five hundred bucks.
And so the dash for cash was a time where

(01:11:05):
you're like, you can make a lot of money on
a week and as good as our special teams were,
so we'd have the kickoff coverage team holds a team
to less than twenty yards a return, all the things
to go with block, a punt, return, a kick, all
the different things that show up statistically. And every week
it would go up. It was either five or ten bucks.
So come back, did everybody on the team, and by

(01:11:25):
the tenth win when you lost, no dash for cash
when we won. Now, if you had a great special
team's day and he called, we'd go to our meeting
on Monday. He'd say Paul Moyer to two tackles inside
the twenty bab bah. The kickoff return team say Paul Moore, booboo,
and then all of a sudden, everybody would get their money.
They'd walk up and collect their cash, walk back, and

(01:11:46):
then you'd get one that would have a great special
teams and we'd dominate and we'd win. And you're on
like week eight and we've won, we're six and two.
So it goes up every week. So now you're talking
about per grouping six seven hundred bucks a week for
a guy like rookie. That that can add up. So
I was begging to be on special teams. I said,
let me run down on kickoff first, let me be

(01:12:07):
a punt protector or whatever. I'm big and I can hand.
I'm willing to do it because I wanted the money,
and they weren't going to let that happen, but wanted to.
But here was the caveat. You didn't matter how good Bobby,
I mean Bobby Joe Edmonds return a kick and everybody
on that team. And now you're up to it. Sure
you play on six special teams and now week eight

(01:12:28):
you're making four thousand bucks. But we had an off
side spinalty on the return for a touchdown. Everybody had
to give the cash back to the party at the
end of the year. Can you imagine for that it
went right into the like coach Elko, you had to
put we put it into a little bucket took it
to chuck, take it back, and it would go when

(01:12:48):
we lost, it didn't race, but every single week it
would go up on all the special teams, and by
the end of the year we won ten games of
ten or eleven games. My rookie year and our special
teams was one of the best. And I think Bobby
Joe Edmonds I think made the prob I mean we
had guys running down I mean we had a Sam Merriman.
We were really good, and guys were bringing in a
handful of thousands of dollars a month. And if you're

(01:13:09):
not a big salary guy, that's paying your mortgage and
your car payment and a little vacation in the offseason.
But if you had a pennant that kept him disciplined,
were you knew I ain't jumping off sides. Man, we're
really good and we're going to block a punt today
and russy Timmen was a great teacher, and so I
get it. But these guys are pros now, Dan, I
know you kind of it was a tongue in cheek
kind of joking around to try and get some incentive,

(01:13:31):
But think about it, we're cut into your nil money.
That nil money. We're that's going into a pot. We're
taking it right out now. I don't know how they
prove it, because the NC to it. What do you
can't do that? Well, I can pay them. Why can't
I take it away from him? If they're udisciplined late
for class? Shouldn't you be able to do that? If
you're late for a meeting. In pro football, they're supposed
to find you. If you allow it to happen, then
you're an idiot. And coaches allow that to happen at times,

(01:13:53):
but they find you. So a guy shows up late
for class who doesn't make the class and doesn't have
an excuse for being sick, why can't Dion who who
wants his guys to go to class and makes it
to very Haven. You set in the front road, take
your glasses off and pay attention. I'm talking about a
lot of them do. If you don't do that, And
if you're late for class, or you don't show up
and you don't have an excuse you slept in, that's
that's two. That's a two hundred dollars fine, fifty dollars

(01:14:14):
five there asks of being class. I know right now,
that's a little bit hyperbolic. But we're at that point.
We're at the point. You're making this money, you're on scholarship.
Guess what you you jump off sides. Guess what or
whatever incentive it is that you you. I assure you, guys, snap,
it's amazing. Take away what a guy loves to do,

(01:14:34):
or hit him deep in the wallet, and guess what
you do. Change your damn right, it does, You're damn right.
And we say, well, it's only money. Well, yeah, well
the US team got an extra two hundred grand to
play in a Ryder Cup. Okay, now they're all donating
it to charity. But you get my point. And apparently
that money didn't didn't help him win. But so I'm
okay with it. Although I'm sure he was joking. He's

(01:14:55):
just tired of his team and they're a good team,
and they don't want to put themselves in a big
game with a good team. They'll get beat because of
a penalty if they don't get it fixed.

Speaker 6 (01:15:03):
Maybe something else you're gonna like too, because you mentioning
about being a third team quarterback, and well, a third
team quarterback recently spoke and somebody didn't like it.

Speaker 2 (01:15:12):
So we'll let you hear, and I think that's somebody
probably coached in the league, right huh yeah, yeah, all
of those things right there.

Speaker 6 (01:15:18):
So we'll have that for you right here as we
continue in the seven o'clock hour Sean Salisbury Show Sports
Talk seven ninety j bar M Barbecue. I told you
I was in on there on Friday and met the Toomeys.
Awesome people, and the play can see why the business
is good, right, one thousand percent you can. And I
mean in everything that I've been explaining, it meets the expectations.

(01:15:39):
You step in there for lunch and you smell the
brisket already. Then you get up there to the front
and my guy's right there with the knife. He's slicing
it up on your tray. You know, hey, y'll want
some of that jalapeno cheddar sausage. Here, you go, slice
that up a little bit. What sides you want here?
You go all of that and I always tell you
about the specials, which I'll tell you about in the second.

Speaker 2 (01:15:57):
Yeah what Dan. We talk about the sports leadership and
it starts at the top, right, How do you build
something good if one especially restaurants, the food's not good
and the food's phenomenal there, but good, no question about it.
But when you think about all the things you put
together and the guy who built the business is in
his nineties and does it work all the time. Yeah,

(01:16:19):
you serve every there, every day you're going to see them.
So is there any Is there any? I mean, there's
no guessing as to why it's success successful. And then
you look at Hafi and you look at the people
that are doing it and you say, Okay, combine great
customer service with a great venue, indoor outdoor, have a party.
There's room for you to be a private party. And

(01:16:40):
then you taste the food, You're like, okay, I get it.
So they've already set themselves up for success. Locations awesome,
but customer service and great food. If you leave there
hungry or leave there without taking something home with you,
that's a you problem. It's the best barbecue I've had
in this state. And that's saying something because there's very
few states that can touch us here in Houston, or

(01:17:00):
should I say cities in Houston, but states of Texas.
Let me tell you what.

Speaker 6 (01:17:03):
The U problem is gonna be is that you're going
to go there and say, ah, man I just I
knew a we're gonna be able to eat all of this.
So next time I'm gonna get some ribs or I'm
gonna get some chicken, whatever it is, and any of
those things, all of it. There's always a reason and
you will always have a reason to come back to
Jbar Barbecue because you'll see that full service bar.

Speaker 2 (01:17:22):
No reservations needed either. Dance got right in that too.
You say it all the time.

Speaker 6 (01:17:25):
Event, no event, never a bad time to go to
Jbar and Barbecue twenty two when Leland Street got the
beer garden outside from when the tempts start to cool
down a little bit, and you mentioned Hoffe too, You're
gonna walk in and you're gonna say, hey, here's this
huge guy, this huge guy that looks like Eric Church. Well,
it's a guy who's gonna make sure that you have
a great experience. And he will make sure that you
have a great experience.

Speaker 2 (01:17:43):
Bar m Barbecue dot com Again, no reservations needed, and
you will just flat out love it and see exactly
what we're talking about. It is when they say don't
need an event, it is an event, no doubt about it.
Mexican hot dogs are the special today fourteen dollars get
you two hot dogs top with bacon, Pico de Guayo
and kramas served with fries. It's right over there.

Speaker 6 (01:18:04):
Never a bad time, lunch, dinner, whenever to hit up
jbar M Barbecue twenty two on one Leland Street right
there in Ito.

Speaker 2 (01:18:10):
It's J. Barr M Barbecue. This is the Sean Salisbury
Show sales.

Speaker 1 (01:18:18):
That's beautiful.

Speaker 6 (01:18:20):
You mentioned about a time being the third team quarterback,
and you were a thirteen quarterback as a rookie. How
many times that season would you say you ever spoke
with the media.

Speaker 2 (01:18:30):
In the preseason because I had a great meaning you
had to. We had six quarterbacks on a roster, Yeah,
and I had to, and I know two were already
gonna make it, and they went and traded for a
veteran who, quite frankly, was a good friend of mine,
Paul McDonald sc and what Cleveland came there, and I'm thinking,
you're gonna have to and they drafted a guy and

(01:18:51):
it wasn't me because I'd blown out mine each way,
so you can understand. And I had a great preseason.
So that's when I got talked to on a regular
base because you're playing well and you're make than everybody.
He's looking for that story, Right, how's this guy going to?
And I had one of those preseasons that allowed me
to then stay in the league ten years. And I
had to have that preseason because you just on the
practice forget the games which went well. On the practice field,

(01:19:11):
you can't make many mental mistakes because that gets you
eliminated faster than throwing a pass over. Somebody said, as
long as you're going to the right guy. I was
fortunate to have one of those preseason where I was
thrown it to the right guy and they were catching
it and made good decisions. That was it. Once the
season started, there was what they have to say to me.
I'm third quarterback. If you get an opportunity, then they
talk to you. Otherwise sit back. And after my preseason,

(01:19:33):
the rumors of oh man, you know got a great
future here and I'll just coordinators talking to you, and
the media is saying, my guy John Clayton, God rest
his soul. He was the beat writer in Seattle before
he went national. Right, so you're covering and doing stories
because preseason and so there's that little buzz. But we
had David Craig and Gail Gilbert. I want to play,
and they addressed me as they should, as a third

(01:19:55):
string quarterback who was a good teammate, helped out as
you can, worked hard to try and get an up fernity,
and when it came other than that, what they have
to say to me not much as a third quarterback
with you the third round draft pick of the fifth round.
When you're the third quarterback, you're better to be seen
and not heard well Schade or Sanders.

Speaker 6 (01:20:13):
Last week, I believe, talking with ESPN, had said, I
see the quarterback play in the league right now. I
know I'm capable of doing it better than that. So
of course thirteen quarterback saying things like that, immediately people
are pretty annoyed with it. Well, count Rex Ryan, former
NFL head coach, as one of those people. And yesterday
on Get Up he did not hold back.

Speaker 13 (01:20:35):
Okay, Stefanski is one of the I mean, an outstanding coach,
all right, but why the hell isn't he putting should
or Sanders. We're all waiting to see the should or
Sanders be the guy or Gabriel whatever. Something's missing, something's
missing with this kid. This kid talks, he runs, his
mouth like he's a I could be a starting quarterback
with his arms crossed like this. Get your ass in

(01:20:57):
the front row and study and do all that. If
I know, the whole league knows, could be in an
embarrassment that way. You got the talent to be the quarterback,
you should be you should be embarrassed that you're not
the quarterback.

Speaker 2 (01:21:09):
Now, I don't listen shear Sanders seems like a good
enough kid. I like it. He's engaging.

Speaker 16 (01:21:18):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (01:21:18):
The problem is he overloads his mouth with his ass,
which is put him in this position. You're the third quarterback,
and it's easy because I felt the same way. I
don't know if I've shared this story. I'm my training camp.
I think I've shared in the past, just to pur
how we get full of ourselves. I'm rolling on. We
showed for mini camp. My very first year is a
rookie mini camp. I don't know anybody yet. I mean,
I know guys from college and that I played against,

(01:21:40):
and guys that i'd watched, so I'd get the training camp.
Earl Winfield and I are standing back there and we
come out there and David Craig comes out on the field. Now,
for those who don't know David Craig. David Craig didn't
get drafted Milton College, which is no longer a college.
It was an elementary school that was shut down or something.
And David was a guy who's remember the jew when
you were a kid and you got the helmet that
didn't fit the jury, when you were like for your
Christmas and the jersey short sleep jersey went down to

(01:22:02):
your forearm and it got caught on your elbows. That
look your pants baggy, like you crapped your pants. That
look that was David Craig. And so I went there.
We're going through pregame warm up and warm up and
pre practice warm up, and earl who had just been drafted,
who was from North Carolina, good player. And I'm sitting
back there. We're going through warm up and then early
drills like one on one drills, and I'm throwing every third.
You know, we got the quarterbacks working. I setting there

(01:22:24):
throwing one hundred miles our ripping it. I'm like, David's
about six foot and a half six', one maybe one
hundred and eighty five hundred ninety. Pounds you, know nothing
imposing about, Him AND i didn't Know. DAVE i Knew
Gail gilbert BECAUSE i play against him in. College he
was a. Cow so we're going through this And i'm
like practice going, up saying this guy can't touch. Me

(01:22:45):
there's that, arrogance but, confident not out. Loud and so
as we go on in the individual drills and one
on one and throwing and warm up and were you're
throwing routes on, air AND i finally look At earl
when it wasn't, here AND i turned team and we
kind of bonded right away because in the preseason we went,
off but this was mini camp before training, camp AND i,
Said i'm beating him. Out that's WHAT i said to.
Him about forty five minutes, later we're going through seven

(01:23:08):
on seven and team And David craig's throwing post corners
To largent who's on his way to the. Post he's
throwing it to the back from about the forty five
yard line to the front, pylon dropping it in the
bucket before large and even even out of his post,
break and it's landing in the, bucket couldn't. Miss with
about ten minutes to go and practice in our final team,
DRILLE i look over at Ear, winfield AND i, Said

(01:23:28):
i'm not beating him. Out SO i Think i've shared. That,
yeah so you get this. Perspective sure it's easy to
sit back, there and he's a talented, guy he ain't
ready to. Play that's why they Drafted Dylan gabriel ahead of.
Now If gabriel, fails if he ever starts Over, flacco
then he'll get his. Chance but go to, work sit
in the front row like your dad tells the students
to do At, colorado and class and make sure you're
soaking on so when the opportunity does, come you don't blow.

(01:23:49):
It BECAUSE i know the feeling of sitting back and
Saying i'm better than that. GUY i can beat him
out around the. League sure you. Can it's easier said and.
None but then when you think That Justin fields said Of,
Spencer but when you get behind center and the responsibility
falls on, you it's a whole different world in THE. Nfl,
buddy This Saint colorado and you didn't win much. THERE
i think he's a talented. Guy when the opportunity presents,
itself you best be ready because then you know what

(01:24:11):
everybody's gonna. Say if you're, not you talked, it but
you couldn't walk, it. Dude So i'm anxious to. See
But rex isn't. Wrong rex is a little goes a
little overboard at, times but it's. Okay IT'S tv and
we see that all the. Time. Uh the best thing
For Shador sanders do is keep your mouth shut when
an interview, comes say talk to those. Guys they're the.
Ones i'm gonna keep. Working if my opportunity, comes Hopefully
i'll be. Ready other than, that we know you're folding your.

(01:24:32):
Arms say you're, better but you're Gonna he's gonna get
an opportunity to prove it one, day and if he
falls flat on his, face then we'll say third quarter
third string quarterbacks are. Better just do your job and
keep your mouth.

Speaker 6 (01:24:42):
Closed, well Maybe dad does come into the equation, here
because we will talk about it. Here as we get
into the eight o'clock, Hour john And fresno see you're right.
There you want to join him seven one three two

Speaker 6 (01:25:31):

For Baltimore's sunday uh in The ravens for that. Game

seventh rounder to The Cleveland browns for a sixth round
pick that year as, well And Kevin durant says he
intends to sign a contract extension to stay with The
rockets past this. Season we'll get To john And ray
here in a. Second but you, know one of the
other things you Mentioned dion with with with chadur and
all of. This AND i know that people out there

(01:26:14):
are going to, say, Well dion's the one who exacerbates,
THIS i think to a certain. Point but one thing
THAT i always heard About Dion sean is for, all you,
know the pomp and circumstance and the publicity and everything.
ELSE i always was told that he was aces as a.
Teammate and one story THAT i heard was from the baseball.
SIDE i think That's Steve, Avery AND i heard this

(01:26:35):
story second. Hand was going to have an arbitration hearing
where something something contract wise with The, braves And dion's right,
there you, know talking with, somebody and then he just, goes,
hey what are you going to? Say And avery kind of,
like you, know gave, him you, know, hey this One
i'm gonna.

Speaker 2 (01:26:50):
Say he's, like, hey Miss Spiel, yeah he.

Speaker 6 (01:26:52):
Go he, Goes now you'll come across as an a,
hole say, this, this, this and, this like helping out
a teammate right there of saying, no you know you do,
that it's not going to go well for. You so
those are stories That i've, heard is that he knows
how this. Goes and for all we know, TOO i,
mean we don't know what happens in the phone conversations
or text or whatever between son and, father but you've

(01:27:12):
got to wonder That dion doesn't reach out to him and, say,
hey now you got your, opportunity make the most of.
It but also, too in the, meantime third string quarterbacks
don't talk.

Speaker 2 (01:27:23):
RIGHT i would imagine That dion, says, dude, yeah we've heard.
Him he thinks his son's talent enough to be a great,
player and he should think, that And i'm sure he's
told him. That but in the, process, also The Dion
sanders THAT i know and have heard about him with
teammates would, say make sure you're prepared when the opportunity presents.
Itself make sure you get in the meeting. Room, yes, Sir, no,
sir take care of your business and. LISTEN A sanders

(01:27:46):
is going to. Talk, okay it's it's IT'S. Dna it's. Okay,
Now pops could talk and. Go matter of, fact his
talent was even bigger than his. Mouth and that's saying.
SOMETHING i have nothing but respect and Love. Dion now
he was the reason the treason everything that is, phenomenal
and he did AND i have And i've played against
him and have talked to many of people who are

(01:28:08):
his teammates at different, stops AND i have never ever
heard one whether you like the pomp and circumstances goes with.
It he's really Given colorado a face. Left there's no
question they'll get better if they get, players and they're
paying nil what have. You but you know it's a
challenge being a. Coach you know it's it's a, lot
And dion. Knows he listen to the way he talks
to his players about getting a. Class he he he's

(01:28:30):
you know what he. Is he's an old soul rules
guy that understands the new era player and trying to
bring him together is the hardest part of. That i've
never heard of. Person i'm talking to people that know him,
well that played with, him that were on championship teams with,
him and any me knowing. HIM i have never met
a person that didn't say he was a phenomenal teammate,

(01:28:51):
Ever AND i think that's a lot of the reason
why you get support from these. Guys everybody thinks it's
because the flash and dash The Deon's dion say at prime,
Time But deon sand isn't just. Primal Deon sanders Is
Deon sanders go to. WORK i, mean talent's one, thing
but he applied it and you can't do both without
working and teammate and listen to the. Guys So deon's

(01:29:11):
a lot of. Substance and we're waiting For shador to
prove that at THE nfl, level and it may be
three or four years from now he may not Really
If Dylan gabriel goes and plays, well guess, what Shde
sanders won't see the.

Speaker 6 (01:29:21):
Field See and if you're Doing, GABRIEL i mean like
you do you hear comments like, that it's just, like,
oh so you think you're better than?

Speaker 2 (01:29:27):
Me of course that, well and don't kid. Yourself shaduur
wasn't just directing it the outside a part and parcel inside.
Too he was talking the inside the building, too because
our offense isn't very. GOOD i, understand but you're saying.
It you're the guy who's not going to see the field.
Next the guy who would go on the field next
reflect would Be Dylan. Gabriel he was drafted a couple
of rounds before, you so it's obvious the pecking. Order
he's going to get the next. Shot whether he plays

(01:29:48):
well or, not we'll see and if if he doesn't be.
Ready But Deon sanders there's a ton of substance to
him and he is a great. Teammate and you know,
what that's why go go ask go Ask, troy go
ask my go ask anybody who's played with him and
have them say kind of teammate was. HE i love
a guy who can talk, it but when he walks,
it it's a. Sprint and that Was Deon. Sanders so

(01:30:11):
whether you like the way he approaches is the media or.
ANYTHING i have a ton of respect for, him AND
i know THE dna says. Talent he's not as talented
as his, dad but he's at a different position and
his opportunity at some point will find. You, now wouldn't
it be a shame if In cleveland with that, defense
it presented itself and you fell on your face three
games in a, row and a lot of it was

(01:30:32):
mental mistakes OR i Think i'm better. THEM i can
promise you from the, sidelines, buddy this is just from.
Experience it looks a lot easier watching it on YOUR
tv than it does when you have. It that's Why
i'm begging for, technology begging for technology to put one
of the, small, small small goal. Pros what a great
technology we saw with that whoop and did knowing what

(01:30:54):
the heartbeat is when you're standing over the first, Teeth
Luke donald's heartbeat is right. NOW i want you to take.
That i've been begging for, THAT i swear to. You
WHEN i was doing, TELEVISION i, SAID i want a
monitor on the wrist or in the wristband with a
little one On Tom, brady BECAUSE i Believe, brady Or
Michael jordan Or Larry, Bird's Kobe, bryant the great. ONES
i believe their blood pressure. Lessons as the temperature goes.

(01:31:16):
Up Tom brady coming out of the locker room with that,
FIRE i guarantee his blood pressure and his heart rate
was higher than it was in the most extreme. Moments
now standing on the first t at The Ryder, cup
are standing over a putt to win. It if we
had it On Shane, lowry what do you think his?
Was i'd like to, know AND i thought it was great.
Technology now do that with a football, player a quarterback
and then start to get well his heart rates to

(01:31:37):
twelve And brady's is ninety. Seven wonder why that guy's
better under. Pressure i'll bet you for the most, part
you'll see the difference in the performer and the non. Performer,
now some just have, energy it's not, stress and that
may skew it a little. Bit BUT i also want
the GoPro in the quarterbacks right up, here where the you,
know the bolts are on the, front on the. Forehead it's,

(01:31:58):
small it's not heavy't be, deal just a small. ONE
i want the. CAMERA i want you to see to gain,
perspective not only for, us but for fans that understand
how difficult it is from The we see it from
the birds, eye all twenty two view and done a side.
Angle now give me the camera. Technique it's, coming. Dude

(01:32:20):
i'm just telling. You if it, doesn't we're. Stupid now go. Down,
hey here's What dak had to look. At doesn't mean
every play you have the camera on every, play but
you go down to it and you get a blitz
and he sees it and the balls. Delivered don't you
want to see all the chaos that goes on for a?
Quarterback why are we so late to this?

Speaker 6 (01:32:36):
Party, WELL i, mean it took us the longest time
to even get electronic, measurements but we have.

Speaker 2 (01:32:42):
Them now we're doing that on first. Downs so why
in the world wouldn't you want if you want to
take technology the next, level and we got. It and
it's not how much a little cara it can't weigh
a couple ounces at the most right and even. Less
put that in your. Helmet then we're going to get
a night and you folks that sit home, say, oh
that guy. Sucks now you're going to get a real
good opportun tunity to see what all twenty two with
eleven on eleven and then. Offense but from a quarterback,

(01:33:04):
standpoint seeing over and through those, guys what that looks
like from that, position that will ELEVATE tv to a
whole new. Level it's the same thing. There so if
you go to, work wouldn't it be a shame to
blow your Opportunity if you're sure he may get to
the point where he, says, listen, Man i'm not the
guy to talk. TO i got to get to. WORK
i got to be prepared for an opportunity if it presents.
Himself talk to the guys who are playing right. NOW

(01:33:24):
i got work to. Do ray And rick.

Speaker 6 (01:33:27):
Want to talk some, Football john want to talk some.
Astros give you a chance. Here as we continue on
A Tejano tuesday, Addition Sean Salisbury Show Sports talks seven
to Ninety but did it?

Speaker 2 (01:33:38):
Yesterday do it again?

Speaker 6 (01:33:39):
Today The Cougar, minute brought to you By, wrangler is
The Houston cougars get ready for The Texas Tech Red
Raiders saturday night AT Tdecu. Stadium it's a battle of
unbeaten teams for this prime time. Matchup Texas tech brings
the nation's second best total offense the Third ward as
you Got joey McGuire's, team averaging about five h under

(01:34:00):
to end at seventy three yards per. Game, however The
kugs have the nation's top twenty, defense given up only
about two hundred and sixty six yards to their opponents in.
Games so it's The kougs And Red raiders TD Ecu
Stadium saturday night kickoff at. Six coverage is gonna get
started at five o'clock on At saturday over on AT
kprc nine. Fifty this has been today's Kugar, minett brought

(01:34:23):
to you By wrangler.

Speaker 2 (01:34:26):
For The Shawn Salisbury. Show, Continued, yeah guy slides hard
at the Second, Jared, yeah starts arguing and and thought
it was a dirty, slide and, boone he gets into
a battle and then, yeah and then all of a,
sudden you run one in On judge or, something and

(01:34:46):
oh my, gosh you run one in On judge and
then he's back out of the dugout steps out in
front of. Me not be just you have to get,
somebody a little. Judge he's gonna say he's not the. One,
Judge yeah he's, well he's not the. One and even
if you don't hit, him but run it. In then
they're arguing and all of a sudden the umpire has
to step out in front And warren both. Bitch oh,
Dude i'm here for, it AND i hope it happens

(01:35:08):
when they're both. Good it's still when you talk about
rivalries and, sports even though they shove it down our,
throat that's one of the better ones because there's always
There's even if you love the guys across the way
and respect, them Which i'm sure both do have a
respect for both, organizations there's still that competitive thing that
gets in the. Sane it hits different when it's A

(01:35:28):
Yankee Red. Sock if you play for, both you know
it just everybody has that rivalry in their own but
this one's a bigger national rivalry just because well they
shove it down our throats And i'm here for it
as A socks.

Speaker 6 (01:35:39):
Guy keep an eye on for That Red's dodgers. Series
i'm telling You. Francona, well who wins the managerial battle
on that? One you, Think, oh, Yeah I'm. Dan you
know HOW i feel about teams that aren't supposed to
be there or weren't expected to be, there that are
kind of young and a little bit WHEN i say,
naive meaning it's kind of, Cool, well kind of like

(01:36:00):
a couple of our rookie rider. Coppers, right, yeah be
careful because they jump out on The dodgers And Chavez
ravine and beat them, once and all of a, sudden
The la fans are sitting on their hands and getting there.
Late we know that, feeling you're damn, Right and then
all of a, sudden now it's fifth inning Of game
two and they got your ass in a, sling and
now you're letting them hang. Around you can find yourself
and a shit because you don't get a. Chance oh

(01:36:21):
we're down too, Old but we're The. Dodgers this is.

Speaker 2 (01:36:24):
Different and so this game one is a monster opportunity
For cincinnati to go in there because The, dodgers quite
frankly the last part of the season are reeling a
little bit and they're about twenty games less than everybody
in the world thought they were going to be at.
LEAST i had one guy tell me he, thought, oh
they're breaking The. Mariners they're gonna win one hundred and
fifteen games this. Year not so. Fast my Friend padres

(01:36:46):
had something to say about as did the. Division and
they've been banged up a little. Bit it only takes
two great pitching performances to put yourself in. Position reds
are gonna need them and the rest pitching you damn
right they. Do and they've got some exciting YOUNG i
can't wait to see. It, man this feels that what
are we back at nineteen seventy five or The Big
Red machine? Eighties All i'm, here and don't kid, yourself

(01:37:09):
there's more pressure on. It sits on The dodgers, shoulders
the Reigning World series, champion all the, talent all the. Money,
yeah The mets felt that not getting into the. Playoffs
you got to feel it if you're A dodger and
and anything Fran ConA, Does i'm a fan of and
as a guy that loved The dodgers growing up because
they were like at sc and buddies that played for,
Him i'm actually kind of looking forward to seeing how

(01:37:32):
The Cincinnati reds played this We're Sparky anderson And Tommy
lasorda when you need. Them wouldn't that be?

Speaker 3 (01:37:37):
Fun?

Speaker 2 (01:37:38):
Now both of them are What davy lobes and the
spark he passed away in the last year and a.
Half didn't he pass away? RECENTLY i think he. DID
i think BECAUSE i Know tommy did, Obviously So i'm
anxious To, yeah you want to talk about two. Legends
when they battle was, Awesome so there'll be a lot
of history and a lot of Both Blue blood champions
and both really good organizations in the, past and The

(01:38:00):
reds are trying to get back. Up in the first
start of that is making sure he got young, talent
but a guy who can manage. Him And i'm Glad
francona is healthy and out of.

Speaker 6 (01:38:06):
Retirement, well the shows aren't in the, postseason but then
it doesn't stop us from talking about. Him someone three two, one,
two five seven Ninety john And fresno wants to weigh.

Speaker 2 (01:38:14):
In, John good, Morning, hey good, money.

Speaker 1 (01:38:17):
Guys look, here all is not lost with The.

Speaker 16 (01:38:19):
ASTROS i, mean these injuries did one thing it? Aloud
then A brown to go down there and bring up
some fine young. TALENT i, mean we've seen it with
The coles and The bliss and all these. Guys, hey
believe it or, Not Jim crane is, saying here's look,
HERE i ain't got to pay these, guys these guys
to start right. NOW i ain't got to pay.

Speaker 1 (01:38:37):
These guys for another four five.

Speaker 16 (01:38:38):
Years and they got they the Bright matthews and the
kill smith man what he did For bony playing as
little as he did last. Year the, talents y'all start
driving another over fifty, runs hit hitting over one, hundred he's.
Good ten's. Uh switching from third base to the, ifield he's.
Good so he look at all this young, talents with

(01:38:59):
these young, pitchers he, said, LOOK i ain these guys
ready to take. Over and then The brown about these
balls over and put them in here in the, fire
and they got that. Experience so going in the next,
year they gonna be ready to. Play so looking to
The Kevin, LIPS i mean not The Kevin Lips i'm talking,
about but look at The guardians up. There they got
at the, deadline they got rid of a lot of older,

(01:39:21):
players bro the young players in, there and now they're
in the.

Speaker 2 (01:39:23):
Playoffs so the.

Speaker 16 (01:39:24):
Game is, changing, guys And i'm not saying they gonna
get rid of the older, players but they gonna have
to take a backseat to these younger players because these
younger players is ready to play and make their name
in the. Game AND i Think crane is ready. To he,
know he ain't got to pay these guys for the
night four five, years so he ready to let them.
Start so katos to The. Astros if we're gonna Go,
astros see y'all.

Speaker 1 (01:39:45):
Later.

Speaker 2 (01:39:46):
MAN i Appreciate.

Speaker 6 (01:39:47):
JOHN i, mean AS i, MENTIONED, usa The astros top
ten payroll in baseball this, year BUT i mean it's
interesting to kind of bring, UP i, mean where you
get The. Rangers and, Again Chris young did push back
on the ken rosenthal they're gonna shed, Salary they're gonna
shed payroll this, offseason and he, said, no it just
means we're gonna get. Younger And boach wasn't necessarily on

(01:40:08):
board with, that so you, know we decided to go
ahead and move a different direction.

Speaker 2 (01:40:12):
For both of.

Speaker 6 (01:40:12):
Us all, Right, fine that's gonna be something that's gonna
be interesting to find out today because The astros are
perceived with the abrayd you money and with The montero,
money the money you're not gonna have to pay from
er all of that that they're going to be able
to have some money to work. With but it's gonna
be interesting because you need to keep an eye on
both The astros and The rangers from that with these
teams that do, this THE tv deal does kick in,

(01:40:36):
here so it is a all, right how much on
the front end are we taking from THE tv deal
being the way that it is as opposed to do
we feel like we still have the money to work
with to keep our team competitive in some, CASES i
mean The, Rangers that's what it was thought about the
longest time with their thing when they were dealing with
THEIR tv network before they decided to bring it in

(01:40:56):
house where it. Was are they gonna have to start
shipping off some of these contracts because the money's not
going to match.

Speaker 2 (01:41:03):
Up i'm curious what the biggest move is going to.
Be i'm talking about people, going people come With the
biggest move will be between now And. March pitching about
individual you think It's, Seas, Yeah Dylan CEES i AND
i wonder if that's the only.

Speaker 6 (01:41:17):
ONE i think that they would probably go something. SMALLER i,
mean maybe if you try to upgrade your, outfield if
you don't bring Back chaz or people like that that you,
know maybe somebody that you can pencil in the left,
field maybe even move them over to right every once
in a. While BUT i don't really envision massive moves this.

Speaker 2 (01:41:34):
Offseason somebody you like is not going to be here
this next. Year, Right that's something That i'm going to telling.

Speaker 6 (01:41:41):
You so it's one of those THAT i try to,
like you, know WHEN i get the, microphone what's what's
the question, Is, look we saw precedent for it last,
Year SO i, mean are you the type OF gm
that somebody Calls even if you, say, hmm, Man i'm
not really sure THAT i want to part with this.
Guy but if they're giving me, This i've at least
got to.

Speaker 2 (01:42:01):
Listen it's exactly, right oh, That And i'm anxious to
see if there's one of those or two of those
on this. ROSTER i understand running it, back but you're
gonna have you got to change something for a little.
Spark you Can't and listening To Matthew boyd, talk did
you hear see as in getting the start in his
in tears because his grandfather played In, chicago and he
made an interesting. Point he, goes you know, WHAT i

(01:42:21):
gotta love. THIS i can't believe this is phenomenal because
this is the only time all these guys are not
gonna we're not gonna all be together again next, year
and they're. Not so what you see, now the majority may,
be but there's still gonna be a handful of guys
that are gonna need to be back down the, miners
playing somewhere, else or just get traded or what have.
You it's going to. Happen so got a, chairship but
there's gonna be somebody you like you or somebody else

(01:42:43):
or any of. Us it's not gonna be here or
that you think Should and there's gonna be some that
you think shouldn't that will still be. Here but they're
going to have to address something for depth at certain,
positions and the power has to rear its head. Again
definitely needs to come.

Speaker 6 (01:42:57):
Back these are all things we want to find out
a little bit later on to get eleven o'clock, today
that's When joe Spot, In Dana brown gonna meet with the.
Media let's talk a little football With ray In. Miami,
ray good, Morning, Hey.

Speaker 15 (01:43:08):
First PART i want to Say astros one bright. Side
they got a lot Of astros fans down here In
florida and we'll be waiting on them at the Beautiful
Cactive park thanks To Travis scott and all The hilpers
that helped get it. DONE a cheap, food cheap, tickets
and you get see shows. Live so we're waiting until
guys come severy where we're waiting. NOW i just want

(01:43:29):
to say this and on my hand that you guys
thoughts last. NIGHT i saw it in his. FACE i
think he covered my hard rock bet before he got.
Hurt but last night was the last game for The
dolphins With, perriekill And i'll hang up all.

Speaker 2 (01:43:44):
RIGHT i appreciate the. Call, yeah that didn't look. Good, well
you gotta be. Careful even if whether he said last
time with The, dolphins the question is that is his
last time playing you get an injury like.

Speaker 6 (01:43:56):
THAT i, mean look At Tank dell only in HIS
us should be his third year and he's not going
to see the field this.

Speaker 2 (01:44:02):
Year more than. Likely takes a lot of work to
get back from that mental and emotional.

Speaker 6 (01:44:07):
Stuff, well not only, that also to play the position
and play it the way that both of those guys
try to play it where there's a lot.

Speaker 2 (01:44:13):
Of, movement no.

Speaker 6 (01:44:14):
Doubt so, no those are definitely things even with the
advancements in, medicine you definitely got to think about all,
Right so we got one spot open on the phone.

no that's. Awful you Think smoltz didn't bring his, club
said bring all those guys they're, playing competing and doing.
It smolts is showing up to the team charter and, saying,
hey load these up to kid kickers and kickers and players,
like oh we played as. Much, yeah we're played as

(01:47:14):
much golf as we are. Practicing so AND i don't
need practice. Golf i'm talking about practice and. Football so,
yeah don't don't buy. It and And spark ain't fooling. Me,
Now steve's not fooling. Me i'm gonna take about four
a side from from. Him i'm and and then Hopefully
i'll have one of those days Where i'm actually making
putts AND i can do. It but he ain't saying baging.
Meat i'm not buying that He's if he ain't single,

(01:47:36):
digit then he's. LYING i know that these two, talented
AND i know he loves to play so easy.

Speaker 6 (01:47:42):
Easy he's a solid ball striker with, us and he's
a solid ball striker on the.

Speaker 2 (01:47:46):
Core damn right he. Is SO i love. Him big
fan Of Steve.

Speaker 6 (01:47:48):

lot of you want to get, in so we want
to get a lot of you.

Speaker 2 (01:48:09):
In let's start it off With rick. Here, rick good,
morning Kay.

Speaker 10 (01:48:14):
Well good morning to you. Guys and BEFORE i ask my,
QUESTION i just wanted to thank you for the enjoyment
and the distraction from real life that you all bring
to my. Morning SO i really appreciate. THAT i am
framing my question as a HUGE Cj stroud. FAN i
hope he spends every second of his career as A houston.

(01:48:38):
Textan so here's my. Question when when an organization feels
like they have a potential generational, quarterback do they build
their offensive philosophy around his skill set and what he does,
best or is it more of an organizational philosophy of

(01:48:58):
a type of offense that they it feels will bring winning.
Football the reason for my question is when we Hired Nick,
KAYLEY i really thought we were getting The rams and
The sean McVay type of, offense and it kind, of you,
know obviously feels like that that's not the. Case and
with that being, said do you all have any sense

(01:49:21):
of how the organization may SEE cj long? Term as
LIKE i, said the answer for the, future BECAUSE i
just think the young man is a phenomenal, player AND
i love watching him, play AND i hope he's here.
Forever so there's my. Question and, again, guys thank you so.

Speaker 7 (01:49:41):
Much, yeah, no.

Speaker 2 (01:49:42):
Well we can do. It rick appreciate.

Speaker 13 (01:49:44):
It.

Speaker 2 (01:49:44):
Man, Yeah i'll just give you a quick answer on,
this And, rick he's a phenomenal. Talent he's got his
worker's way back into the same player that we saw
a rookie. Year that's kind OF i like WHEN. Cj
stroud's aggressive and attacks. SMARTLY i think the skill sets.
THERE i think he's got a high FOOTBALL i you
think he loves to, play but he also they're going

(01:50:05):
to have to. Do the play caller is going to,
matter as we've, seen and the offensive line because you
can be a great, player but you can't be it
can't be to the point where you're frantic in the
pocket because you don't trust. It that's the biggest thing
for his growth in his career is not even going
to be the play. Caller he's good enough to overcome
a bad play. Caller he is talented. Enough it's going
to be when the offensive line and the protection with

(01:50:25):
him come together with the. Quarterback he's got all the
skills and getting receivers healthy. Again he's not at the
point where he can carry a team by himself like
we've seen players of The superstars, Elsewhere, yes, exactly AND
i felt like he was playing free and. EASY i
think that what happens over time is you start To
it's like a guy who comes out and starts playing
as a natural golf swing and then all of a
sudden he starts tinkering and before you know you're you're

(01:50:49):
your mind's. Cluttered instead of just going, say, man it's
SNATCHAL i don't need to let me just do this
and with a little with somebody else telling, you but
you're watching it and seeing it and doing the things
you want to.

Speaker 7 (01:50:56):
Do CEE.

Speaker 2 (01:50:57):
J stroud's gonna be, fine but his growth is going
to be he determined basically on how a roster's built around.
Him but, listen there's no doubting you've seen too much
of the throws he can make to. Question it's going
to be the mental side and the growth of understanding
what teams are trying to do to you and making
sure they can protect him and build around.

Speaker 6 (01:51:17):
HIM i just ought also to just like to see
the same, guy no matter WHAT i feel like some
of the best, quarterbacks and some people might say postgame press,
conference midweek press, conference what does that?

Speaker 2 (01:51:26):
Matter, no it does matter because.

Speaker 6 (01:51:28):
WHEN i was In, Atlanta Matt ryan win or, loss
same guy going into the game the following. Week he'd
give you nothing of substance to work. With but he
also had, said, WELL i do that Because i'm not
going to be a distraction to the. Guys if you
Think i'm, BORING i don't really. Care, no his job's
not to make. You his job's not to thrill you
with his. Answers his job is to show, up give
you what he, wants even if it's coach, speak that's,
Fine but then to go do his. Job and there's

(01:51:51):
a respect gathered not just from the media and from,
fans that's respect gathered from your own players and just
everything you do in the league that you address failure
just like you would success and never be AN i
confess he did it guy as a, quarterback and it starts.
There and when you do, that things, will things will
get better for this. Franchise it's a good starting. Point

(01:52:11):
they don't need a quarterback, Here, no they do. Not Steve, Gary,
Adrian Jesse. John see you guys right. There we'll work
you into the conversation you want to hop aboard seven one,
three two one two five seven. NINETY i know a
lot of you want to Talk, stros so let's do
it right here as it is A Sewn salisbury show
on A Tejano Tuesday Sports talk seven.

Speaker 2 (01:52:31):
Ninety This Sean Salisbury show continues to continue right. Now
steve on the northwest. Side good, Morning, Steve.

Speaker 10 (01:52:42):
Good morning.

Speaker 12 (01:52:42):
Guys can you hear?

Speaker 2 (01:52:43):
Me, okay we can hear you loud and, Clear steve.

Speaker 17 (01:52:47):
Fantastic, hey, YEAH i just want to talk a little
bit about The. Astros my first point, is you know we're.
Talking WHAT i hear on the phone is these people
are thinking that This astros, team you, know ended up five.
HUNDRED i, mean they were tied to get into the,
playoffs and unfortunately They detroit had the.

Speaker 12 (01:53:06):
Tiebreaker But i'm very.

Speaker 17 (01:53:08):
Fortunate my wife is a Diehard astros, fan and SO
i watched every, game one hundred and sixty two GAMES.

Speaker 10 (01:53:14):
I watched The.

Speaker 17 (01:53:15):
Astros WHAT i think is the problem with this team
is and we said, that you guys said it time
and time and time and TIME i know you're probably
tired of hearing. It his situational. HITTING i can't remember
a team that has had more people on base with bases,
loaded no outs couldn't bring somebody, in or a man on,
third a man on second and no outs and couldn't

(01:53:36):
bring them. IN i, mean if we got half of
those runs this, season we win the division going. Away
but you, KNOW i don't want to blow up this.

Speaker 10 (01:53:46):
TEAM i think some things With.

Speaker 17 (01:53:48):
CAM i Think cam got a little. EXHAUSTED i think
one hundred and sixty two games finally got to. Him
he didn't look like he had the same pep and his.
Step but you, KNOW i just don't think.

Speaker 10 (01:53:59):
This team needs be blown.

Speaker 17 (01:54:00):
UP i, mean if you look at, IT i mean
we didn't Have. ALVAREZ i, Mean hilly got hurt the
last week of the of the, season and you, Know
Boom theraka was one of our best, hitters and we still,
almost you, know almost made. It but And i'm done
with The. Astros BUT i wanted to say something about
The Ryder. Cup you, know my dad always told, me he,
says do not say something behind the guy's back if

(01:54:22):
you won't say it to his. Face AND i think
The Ryder cup was an absolutely. EMBARRASSMENT i understand it's
In New, york so we're going to give him a you,
know Their New. Yorkers BUT i think it was absolutely a.
DISGRACE i think that people was the people in their
attitude and yelling got.

Speaker 6 (01:54:40):
Me, yeah, yeah you. KNOW i just that's your, time. Man,
SORRY i mean just with The astros. First i'm seeing that.
TOO i get it's a trained response from people to, think, uh,
oh this IS o, eight this is. Nine we know
what's righter around the. Corner it's. NOT i, mean you
didn't Have jeremy painea back. Then you didn't Have Cam

(01:55:01):
smith back, then you didn't Have Jordan alvarez under team
control back. Then like you get my point, Here, like,
yes you had aging veterans and, oh by the, way
the funniest thing is the worst thing THAT i think
ever happened to The astros was making The World series
in two thousand and five because people, thought, oh, hey
we can run it back With Morgan Ensburg Mike lamb
AND i hate to bring him up, again But Jason

(01:55:23):
lane and.

Speaker 2 (01:55:23):
Think that this is so you got TWO usc guys in.
There you wanted to throw In, hunt you took it
as a target against your. GUYS i felt THAT i
felt you know, WHAT i felt?

Speaker 6 (01:55:32):
Attacked, well you had an Aging jeff Bag well who
couldn't even throw the ball, anymore yet an Aging Craig.

Speaker 2 (01:55:37):
Bigio like do you get my point?

Speaker 6 (01:55:39):
Here like you had guys that weren't the players that
they once, were whereas you got guys who are still
very much in their.

Speaker 2 (01:55:45):
Prime, LIKE i don't get it. There what a three
to nothing lead in a game Last friday night of
winning the? DIVISION i mean of being in the. Playoffs,
yeah they're one game against The mariners from being in the.
Playoffs they're not blowing it, Up Steve, right that is
not going to. Happen, now what do you consider blowing
up if you move a guy or that they're not

(01:56:07):
blowing it. Up the core of this roster is really.
Good health. Matters it's not an excuse because you've got.
Rosters guys are getting. Paid everybody gets its part and
parcel to what you do in. Sports but they just
couldn't close it. Out next year maybe they. Can but,
LISTEN i know you're gonna have the catcher's gonna be.
Similar you may trade somebody along the. Way but The
cray is not going. Anywhere pain is going to be

(01:56:27):
a short step al two day is going to be,
here more than, Likely Christian walker's gonna be, Here jordan
will get. Healthy we can go through them. All blowing
it up would be fire. Sale they're not fire saling.
Anything they're too. Close but the frustration is and how
spoiled we are is you lost out to a tie
breaker and you think goes back to WHAT i, said
one win In, June, Oh june doesn't. Matter it's a dog. Days,
no It's august dog. Days that one win did, matter

(01:56:50):
and it always, does even in one hundred and sixty
two getting swept by a clee. Line that's exactly. Right
you have to take care of just one of. Them
and if you take care in those tiebreaker, games and you,
well and all the teams that you're competing against have
the tiebreaker against, you it's a.

Speaker 6 (01:57:04):
Problem you get a hit with runners in the scoring,
position the next gave me lost an extra, tigers just,
one just one.

Speaker 2 (01:57:11):
Situation that's. It they're not blowing this. Up there may be,
changes they're not blowing it. Up let's Continue gary in,
Spring Gary good. Morning, hey good morning.

Speaker 18 (01:57:20):
Guys hear me all?

Speaker 7 (01:57:21):
Right mm, hmm.

Speaker 11 (01:57:27):
Excuse, me only as.

Speaker 18 (01:57:29):
Astros the only thing they, need the only thing they
need to do before next break.

Speaker 6 (01:57:34):
Another, Yeah, gary we'll get triple you with. You, yeah
the phone's acting up on. Us we'll get that one. Thing,
Though steve did mention about The Ryder, cup AND i
actually was thinking about that WHERE i Saw Tom watson
had apologized and a few other people have have weighed
in on it. Too isn't this kind of part of
what golf wanted at a certain point they encouraged.

Speaker 2 (01:57:56):
It they. Did now they didn't encourage just because you
say it's going to be ambunctious and, loud which the
first two days was. Overrated why because the way you
played shut it. Down the way you played in the
way The euros, played shut your mouth in a, hurry
the best way to do. It that's your best, revenge
talking and chattering all of a sudden in my backswing
and then go hit one stiff to two. Feet, well

(01:58:18):
guess what that that'll quiet it. Down. Listen it's unfortunate
because ten percent give ninety percent a bad. Name most
golf fans get. It but, again this isn't bro. Golf
we all play that at our local muni and go
and have fun and untuck you're. Shirt this is a
classy and it should be held to higher. Standard it's
The Ryder. Cup it's. Golf it just. Is and the

(01:58:39):
group that gave it a bad whoever, though that ten
percent that just don't get. It but it's it's because
unfortunately it validated what people thought that Weren't New yorkers
coming in, there it's going to Be i've listened To
Golf channel guys of suggestion you should never have a
sporting event back at the Beth Page black because of
which a golf, event and of any kind of major

(01:58:59):
of any, kind because what went. On, NOW i think that's,
unfair but because the majority of, them you just, gotta
unfortunately find a. Way you can't sift out all the,
idiots but you try to and AND i hope they get,
it but it was an. Embarrassment you shouldn't have to
tell somebody and they walk into a major or a
championship level golf tournament Or John Deere, classic when you
address the, ball doesn't matter who it, is you just.

(01:59:21):
You there's a there's an etiquette that goes with. It
just like if somebody's at a comedian comedy show the guy's,
talking you. Don't you'll find you and they will address,
you and you just don't do. It even more so
here because it's a reverence. Sport nobody's, laughing AND i
know it's kind of bothers people, sometimes but that's the
way it's set, up just like rules and just Like,

(01:59:42):
laus that's the way it's set. Up now DO i
think McElroy and the group brings it? On he doesn't
bring on cussing in his backswing or throwing stuff at his,
wife no matter how much you do right now in
between your cheering that he snap hooked to, drive go for.
It that's what's, before, before and, after during or not an,
address and it shouldn't. Be you should not have to

(02:00:04):
fight bringing your wife or your kids to an event
and wonder if they're gonna get a hammered. Now Chipper
jones made a good point about he said he never
took his wife or kids anybody To New york Or
philly just because he didn't want. It but the by
all the talk That keegan and all of them, all
yet it's gonna be. Rowdy they they almost encourage the
guy's going to be. Rowdy but being rowdy you got
to you gotta understand read the. Room being rowdy doesn't

(02:00:27):
mean when When Justin rose Or roy mckalro or address
that you that you yell in their backscreen or squeak it.
Out you just don't do it. Well a. Bait golfers are, soft,
yeah but since they were, three that's what they've tuned
up to. Be it's just the way it. Is, okay
you're not talking when your boss at your work in
a conference room, meeting when your boss is addressing the,

(02:00:50):
room you're not. Talking when he's talking or she's, talking
you're shutting up and. Listening they deserve all golfers deserve that.
Respect and the small person gave a bad name once
again to A New york. Event because there's a lot
of the best golf courses in the world are in
about a one hundred mile stretch in that part of the.
Country two hundred. Mind they just are some of the

(02:01:10):
best you'll ever, see and they get. It but a
small percentage is louder than the ninety percent that aren't
yell all you. Want i'm more of a yeller for
your team as opposed to cussing and screaming at somebody.
Else but that's you, know you bought a, ticket but
buying a ticket doesn't give you leeway to do. It
they did embarrass themself and you shouldn't have to do.
That and if You're Tom, watson you don't have to
apologize for that that it's not and it's a little self.

(02:01:33):
Righteous AND i Like Tom, watson but you know you're
embarrassed by. IT a lot of people are embarrassed by,
it but they've got to address it and get. Better
the bottom line is it hurts THE us in their,
stomach AS i said, yesterday The euros take it in their.
Soul it's JUST i hate to say, it but overall
to their country it feels more. Important it just. Does
we'll get over it quicker. Here we just. Do whether

(02:01:56):
THAT'S dna or. Foundation our guys. Care they showed it On.
Sunday the bottom line is for the next two years
they will Address i'm talking to The europeans will address
every single nook and cranny of. It they do it
better than we, do and the results show. It they're
not better Than. Scheffler but when your best players get
dominated by their best. Players you're not going to. Win

(02:02:16):
just be. Quiet when somebody's golfing at any, tournament let.
Them if it was your kid swing in a club for,
qualifying or your son trying to qualify for their daughter
try to qualify and they're to, tournament you're one of
those rowty, guys and all of a sudden you had
a talented. Kid don't you want that kid to have
a fair shot to, swing even if they're In europe or.
Here it was an embarrassing, moment and we got to

(02:02:37):
be better because they will not get interrupted one time
in their shot THE. Us when they go To, ireland
they just. Won't, now they'll drink their beer afterwards and in,
between but they just won't because they get it a
little more than the ten percent that gave it a bad,
name the village. Idiots they'll find their way into any. Crowd.
Unfortunately all, RIGHT i got a couple of spots open
on the phone.

Speaker 6 (02:02:56):

Good morning.

Speaker 19 (02:04:51):
Guys how you going?

Speaker 2 (02:04:53):
Good thank?

Speaker 9 (02:04:53):
You just a couple of questions in.

Speaker 19 (02:04:58):
One, comment And i'm gonna hang up and listen to.
Y'all my first question, was If Jordan alvarez doesn't get,
hurt you, know the last two weeks of the, season
do we make the?

Speaker 10 (02:05:09):
Playoffs.

Speaker 2 (02:05:10):
Yes my second, question one game to help you?

Speaker 6 (02:05:14):
Win.

Speaker 2 (02:05:14):
YEAH i would have think they'd have won one of
those games with his bat in the.

Speaker 19 (02:05:17):
Lineup, yeah because that's all we needed was one. Game
my second question, is you, know everybody talks about how
The astros are able to pick up a player from
other organizations that they didn't want teach him a new
way to spin.

Speaker 7 (02:05:34):
The ball and.

Speaker 19 (02:05:35):
Everything but do you guys think that that has an
effect on these pitchers', Arms because we had three of
our own homegrown pitchers go down With Tommy john, surgery
and three that we got from other organizations that had
the same. Problem So i'm wondering if that's something that
maybe effects to, spin you, know trying to spin that

(02:05:56):
ball a little, harder put some more strain on that.

Speaker 1 (02:05:58):
ELBOW i, MEAN i don't.

Speaker 2 (02:06:00):
Know go, ahead, no, no, No i'm, sorry go, ahead,
NO i was gonna.

Speaker 6 (02:06:05):
SAY i, MEAN i just think that this is a
symptomatic thing all throughout, baseball the pitch, clock spin. RATES i,
mean you, know for the things that you're bringing up right.
NOW i don't think it's just An astros. THING i,
mean it's not like they're the only, ones you, know
teaching certain tactics of how to throw a. BASEBALL i,
MEAN i JUST i think that they really honestly just
got unlucky with.

Speaker 19 (02:06:25):
It, well, Okay and just my last comment was On Jeremy,
Pena and if you guys think that Bringing Carlos carrea
had any kind of effect on, HIM i do remember
an interview in the beginning of the season Where Joe
spila was saying That jeremy was finally being more vocal
in the clubhouse and being more of a, leader and

(02:06:47):
especially Since bregman left this, season that he was taken
over that. Clubhouse and Then correa comes in and all
of a, sudden it's his clubhouse. Again do you guys
think That jeremy might have been?

Speaker 2 (02:06:59):
Affected, YEAH i Appreciate. CHASSY i think THAT i think
there can be some that if You're, payinia that you
would think that back off out of. Respect and WHEN
i say back, OFF i don't think you want to relinquish.
THAT i, mean you have proven now it's your gig
and hence why you're the shortstop In korea is. Not
they didn't Move. Painia they moved A Platinum glove winner

(02:07:21):
to third, base so that's a good.

Speaker 13 (02:07:23):
THING i.

Speaker 2 (02:07:23):
Mean SO i think the respect is, there but it's.
Obvious it'd be like another great leader from a team
who's been in league twelve years that comes here and
you've already got to you, know you've been with. Leadership let's,
say whoever you think is the best leader on this,
Team Joe, mixon you bring a guy who's on a different.
Position but it's been the league ten. Years it doesn't
mean mixing needs to relinquish. It but it's okay to have, too,

(02:07:45):
Right so you don't just need one, voice maybe a different.
Voice AND i think that out of respect. Too payna
was there and they were. THERE i mean organization moving
up and pay you when he's in the minor leagues In.
Korea SO i think there's a, respect BUT i don't
think it should affect Like i'm not really inquishing the
WAY i go about my business because somebody else came.
In SO i don't think that is the. Case and
with arm, stuff it's only natural that V low trying

(02:08:10):
to throw it. Harder we see it in high school
kids were more of those surgeries than. Ever and what
do you do when you when you got to spin
the ball? More there they're they're remember when growing up
with see used to not be V. Low WHEN i
was growing up in literally you know, what they didn't
want you to. Do throw curveball all the. Time you
got to throw. Fastball change it can't throw. Curveball uh

(02:08:30):
and until you got to certain can't throw. Curveball now
some would try to get. Away they can't throw. Curveball
why because the the the torque on the elbow and all,
that and so of course the more you do, it
the more toll it. Takes so that's why all the
training and ice and whatever it, is it goes with
keeping your arm ripe and your legs come with, it
because you become an arm thrower and don't engage the.
Legs that's. Why and when guys get, tired what. Happens

(02:08:52):
you're throwing upper body and eventually when it's all, armed
it'd be like it's like putting the brakes in the
gas on what usually. Wins the breads are going to.
Win when you got the gas, on you put the
bad breaks are. Winning so lower bodies not, working upper body,
is and all of a sudden you're fighting against each,
other the upper, bodies the, gas the lower, bodies the,
breaks eventually the torque and the rest of. It so

(02:09:12):
you've got to continue there work hand in. Hand they're not,
opposite they're not mutually. Exclusive they're. Together so that with
constant snapping of the arm to get more spin and
more spin and how it comes off your fingertips and
then pumping the, velo you got to have it all.
Working there's a. Reason this isn't just because of, pitchclock
BUT i think that has something to do with it
resting between how much we're. Doing but we're so the

(02:09:33):
emphasis On vilo. Vlovel we got more throwers now than
we have, pitchers and especially at the high school on
little league level and growing, up more throws and by
the time they gets like, quarterbacks we have more throwers
than we do quarterbacks that are precise and, Dynamic and
a lot of it has to do with the way
they're being. Trained so if you're a, parent or if
you're a, coach or you're somebody or as as you move,
on make sure that you find the right one that's

(02:09:55):
not just working for their success on a money, grab
whether it's teaching your kid or your high school or college,
guy or to program the right way.

Speaker 6 (02:10:01):
Well and it's also, TOO i mean it's twofold With
painia And korea, back what we were talking about is
the previous. Relationship already he knows What Carlos korea brings
to that, clubhouse so there is that respect and the
fact they work out in the off, season that friendship
off the, field and then For, KOREA i, MEAN i
REMEMBER i even asked him when he first got back
about reassuming the leadership, role and he just, said you, know,

(02:10:23):
YEAH i had some ideas AND i ran him by.
Two but aside from, That i'm observing and seeing how
these guys because his point was a lot of these
guys and here have no idea WHO i.

Speaker 2 (02:10:32):
Am and you know what great leadership is knowing when
to apply, it when to apply, verbiage and when to
just apply good, leadership and when, too when you have
something to, say step back and let somebody else handle.
It but there's also a point time when you got
to say enough, enough we're not handling it. Now then
you immerse. Yourself and that's the respect where you step
out and say we needed to hear from. Him it's
the timing of the. Leadership when you've been a guy

(02:10:53):
that here went away and came. Back he didn't lose
it or have to, game but he didn't have to
prove he's a leader, still and you don't have to
immerse yourself so hard that you overwhelmed the guy who's
taken that. Over you try to enhance. It and that's
what great leadership. Is and that's also great leaders know
a to discern between when it's right and when it.

Speaker 6 (02:11:12):
Isn't and that's a good. Thing, well AND i think
he tried his best at the. End it's JUST i
think the injuries got the best of this. Team John.
Doyce see, you, guys right there will work in you
want to join? Them someone three two on two five
seven ninety against someone three two on two five seven.
Ninety it Is Sean salisbury Show Sports talk seven.

Speaker 2 (02:11:28):
Ninety. NOW Dnm leasing just delivered a truck to a
customer who had listened TO dnm for more than twenty five.
Years think about, that and he'd been hearing these commercials,
forever right for, decades he believed leasing was just renting a.
CAR i put in air, quotes something you only did
if you couldn't afford to. Buy and who hasn't been,
there right. Guys BUT Dnm leasing's here to change. That
that change when the dealership offered him an eighty four month.

(02:11:51):
Loan he knew he'd trade the truck in in a few,
years and he knew he'd end up well upside down
again owing more than it was. Worth, well that's when
he remember THE dnm. Commercials ever seen A texas. Title
uh and when you trade in a long finance, contract
the only thing you own is negative. Equity those quotes
so he CALLED dnm leasing showed him is that leasing

(02:12:13):
isn't about what you can. Afford it's simply the smarter
way most people pay for their. Vehicles. Smarter see what
smarter does for? You AND dnm leasing is. Smart leasing isn't.
Renting let me say it. Again leasing isn't. Renting it's.
Smarter who doesn't want? Smarter harder doesn't always. Work smarter,
does and especially when it puts money in your pocket

(02:12:34):
and makes it easier for you at the, beginning the,
middle and the. End dial seven one three two nine
zero one thousand seven one three two nine zero one
thousand or visit us AT. Dnm IT'S dnm, leasing dmauto
leasing Dot, com dmauto leasing Dot. Com they continue to win.
Awards and there's a reason WHY dnm it's dmauto leasing Dot.

(02:12:56):
Com why you're? Back this is The Sean Salisbury. Show
get back at. IT i mean you're From, California tetanos
are from? Here Uh? Escndido you have been? THERE i
have you ever been to the? Border you ever been
To San? Diego. DIEGO i think we're a little closer
to the border there than you are. Here just a, hunch, fawn.

(02:13:18):
CHECKMATE i get. It, Okay but that being, said you
didn't really say, that but it sounded. Good, no, no
it didn't sound. Good Non, tuesday damn RIGHT i.

Speaker 3 (02:13:28):
Do.

Speaker 2 (02:13:29):
Yeah LIKE i, said you can never hear uh like
uh The Tejano tuesday music and not get a little
pep in your. Step. Day, yeah it just. Did there's
just something, Great, okay little. Elevation So, tuesdays because you,
Know tuesdays you might be in a little dol. Drums
monday has it's like It's, monday but you're pumped up
out of the. Weekend and Then tuesday it's, like, OKAY

(02:13:50):
i gotta get The. Wednesday and Then, thursdays oh, Fry
tuesday's kind of A tuesday's a. Looner but we're not
allowing that to help you meet a catalyst and it's
something to push you. Along here we, go, man you
need the pen and the pinball exactly right, there we'll
go get.

Speaker 6 (02:14:04):
Yep, So Joe spotta And Dana, brown they're gonna meet
with the media here in about an hour and a
half over at Dyke In park to recap the. Season
texans off in the practice field, today but getting ready
for The ravens In baltimore On. Sunday and another baseball,
Note Bruce bochi not gonna be back next year with The,
rangers and, uh just gonna be curious to see what

(02:14:25):
The rangers do this. Offseason but we're concerned about The
astros right, now AND i know that some of you
out there are as. Well seven one three two one
two five seven Ninety doyce In chicago wants to weigh.

Speaker 20 (02:14:36):
In good, Morning good, morning how are you guys doing?

Speaker 2 (02:14:39):
Today very?

Speaker 20 (02:14:39):
Well, Hey the reason my call is because there's been
something going on with The astros the last couple of.
Years it's concerning every time you look at THAT, il
it's the largest in, baseball and it's kind of like
there's more guys on THE il over the last two
years and any other team In Major League. Baseball if
we've got a problem, anywhere it's in that streak and

(02:15:01):
conditioning program that's going. On we've got to do something
to keep our guys, healthy because if we were somewhat
healthier this, year we would have gotten a lot. Further
and also last, YEAR i think we could have gone
a little bit. Further but if you look at, it
we had eight or nine starting guys who started pitching
for The asters at one point another that was on

(02:15:22):
THE il this. Year and you, know we don't need
to go looking for other players right. Now we just
need to get ours. HEALTHY i mean talk about your
talk about you know. McCullers if these guys are, healthy
well we would have gone. Further and that's all there
is to.

Speaker 1 (02:15:37):
It but what are your what do you guys?

Speaker 20 (02:15:39):
Think AND i would like to see you guys bring
this up With joe and they then see what they
got to.

Speaker 2 (02:15:43):
Say, DOYCE i thank?

Speaker 6 (02:15:45):
You is?

Speaker 2 (02:15:45):
It doyce is right right? Now a great. POINT i
think it's valid at some point in. Time now you, say,
well is there a lot of fragile, athletes or how
are we going about our off season? Program what's going
on in season? Now it may just be unfortunate luck
the last two, years but when it keeps, happening you

(02:16:05):
have to at, least LIKE i, said you evaluate. Everything
i'm with him and he makes a great point of
think about. This if you have your regular guys, healthy
you don't need to look outside your building for.

Speaker 6 (02:16:16):
Help you also wonder, though if especially the, guys which
there's not many of them that have been here from
beginning to end in terms of twenty seventeen, now.

Speaker 2 (02:16:26):
Is if there's not many of them like you, said right,
RIGHT i mean.

Speaker 6 (02:16:28):
There's a, handful but playing all of that extra baseball
and then you take a little bit of time off
and then go into the. Offseason if, again if that's
something that's talked about with the guys Of, hey, LOOK
i understand what you think you need to push it,
to but you also need to understand what you're preparing.

Speaker 2 (02:16:44):
For but what also heightens, It dan with tightens what
he was saying that the more baseball you, play the
more you got to take care of. Yourself the more
football you. Play Kansasity, Chiefs i'm sure going through that
a lot of football teams that get they deep into the.
Play you, know you're talking about over the course of.
Year The chiefs are when The patriots kept, going you're
talking about three or four extra games ten straight. Years

(02:17:06):
it's a lot of. Food that's three seasons when you,
THINK i mean you're talking a lot or two and
a half. Seed that's a lot of football right seventeen.
SEVENTEEN i mean we were talking extra and if you
do it, four, five six, times but which even puts
more emphasis on rest, recovery but also not too much
rest to recovery because you still got to get, back
because it's so, much so much harder to get back

(02:17:29):
than it is to. Lose do yourself, Favor go on,
vacation get yourself in prime. Shape take a three going
on three week or a month. Hiatus go on. Vacation
you're having a cold, drink you're, eating and don't run
once or don't lift once and come. Back, dude you're
starting fresh over. Again you're sucking eggs and you dog on.
Right so it's like better to, repair better to prepare

(02:17:52):
and prevent than it is to repair and. Repent so
it really. Is so you go on. There, man IF i,
prepare IF i think about this and get it, done
NOW i don't have to repair and. Repent i've taken
care of.

Speaker 3 (02:18:03):
It.

Speaker 2 (02:18:03):
Now luck comes in play, too and those things. Happen
but if you prepare and, prevent then you don't have
to come back and, say oh, MAN i didn't. PREVENT
i didn't prepare for, that so NOW i got to
repair and repent for the THINGS i, did and NOW
i got to get it. Fixed so there is that
fine line and the key for the training staff and the,
player each individual one is Finding it's not an overall.
Thing this is an. Umbrella this is you got to.

(02:18:23):
Have just like you can't treat every player the. Same
you can't treat every guy the way he conditions and
gets his body healthy the. Same and that's up to
the medical staff and the training staff and the strength
and conditioning people to understand what pushes the buttons and
what maximizes THEIR vo two max or their strength and,
conditioning whatever it. Is it is a valid point and

(02:18:45):
one because it is and feels abnormal to have the
injuries they've had the last couple of. Years it's been,
unfortunate no doubt about.

Speaker 6 (02:18:54):
It seven one, three two one two five seven ninety
the number to get In gary And spring wants to.

Speaker 7 (02:18:58):
Win.

Speaker 2 (02:18:59):
Gary good, Morning, hey good morning.

Speaker 18 (02:19:01):
Guys SORRY i had to drop off. EARLIER i deliver
auto parts AND i had to make a. Delivery but,
ANYWAY i have two things i'd like to talk about real.
Quick one of, them of, Courses i'm gonna pretty much
echo the last callers sentiments there about The. Astros you
look at all the people they have on their, roster
hurt not hurt and, everything and you start them all all.
Fresh AND i think y'all just said that just a,

(02:19:22):
minute go too and start them off all. Fresh they
have one of the best lineups top to. BOTTOM i
wouldn't want to be a picture to face all. That
you get your done, back you get paying you, back
you get the center fielder. Back AND i think all
they really need to add is a left fielder, maybe
and then you got a utility. Guy he can always

(02:19:45):
substitute for the for the right, fielder you, know if
he can't make all them games and, everything BUT i
think he'll be better next.

Speaker 19 (02:19:51):
Year and a starting.

Speaker 18 (02:19:53):
Pitcher AND i wouldn't want to be A i wouldn't
want to be a starting pitcher on any other team
facing this this. Team, ALSO i heard on somewhere up
maybe it was on the, internet somebody that analyzes all
the games in analysis about if all the teams would
have had all their starting players in, there what he
thought that they would have done for the, Season and

(02:20:15):
he said The astros would have won twelve more. Games
So michik say that about all the other, teams BUT
i don't think they need to do any of the
changes other than a left fielder and a starting. Pitcher
the other THING i wanted to say real quick was
you were talking About Bruce bochie earlier and man WHEN
i was watching them and he was trying to make
it out from the dugout to the pictures now AND
i felt start for. Him and he can barely, walk

(02:20:37):
so hopefully he'll just, retire go enjoy the rest of his,
life spend some of that money in and maybe help other,
people or go up to the office and work in
the office.

Speaker 12 (02:20:47):
There but my main thing was The.

Speaker 18 (02:20:50):
ASTROS i don't think they hardly need to do any.
Changes they still got that infield is. UNBELIEVABLE i like
the first. Baseman HE'S i think he led in THE
rbi home. Runs he's on the best first baseman Defensively
i've ever. Seen but, anyway that's ALL i, Had, GUYS
i appreciate you taking my.

Speaker 19 (02:21:06):
Call, yeah and, that and that.

Speaker 2 (02:21:08):
Left fielder may very well be in, house you, KNOW
i mean number twenty, seven that's, exactly or somebody that's
younger with with with With pop as, well that's something
you're gonna have to whether it's in house or out,
house find somebody just put out. There and he plays
one hundred and forty five hundred fifty games and get.
It and SO i think he's right that you don't
need a lot of wholesale. Changes and what was his

(02:21:29):
last point there About, Boachie oh, yeah boach is the
hips and knees are, shot all the years of crouching
and catching and all going through. It AND i don't
know if it, looks you, know if if the optics
are worse than the actual, feel because if it hurts
as bad as it, looks it's like boach you need

(02:21:50):
a plunge pool in the. Dugout and it's been a
while Since i've talked to, him SO i don't. Know
but it looks painful when he's walking out to make pitching.
Changes SO i don't. Know and you know he's taking his.
Retirement maybe he'll take a step back and, say, yeah
office is for me or you, guys the optics to
you look a lot worse than the feeling to, me
and that's something he'll have to. Decide put it this,
way if you want a great, manager he knows how

(02:22:12):
to to. Win if You're baltimore Or San francisco or
one of these, openings of course you have to at
least look and inquire if he's. Interested San fran's been
trying to win for a. Minute quality left, quality And
Buster posey was his, catcher And Buster posey knows him
as well as. Anybody And Buster posey's the decision maker
In San francisco, now so we will. See the key

(02:22:32):
here is for it's nice And boach's. Position he gets
the he's at the point in his career where he
can make the decision without being happen to do. It
it's whether he wants what kind of quality of Life
boach wants, now and if it's managing good keeps you,
young he likes. It and if he feels, healthy go
do it and go find a team that can help you.
Win other than, that he's earned the right to make the,

(02:22:53):
decision and we'll see if that means. Managing but you
know somebody's going to inquire by the, Services, well he's
going to call.

Speaker 6 (02:22:59):
HIM i think the decision you have to stay to
Let Bob melvin go probably told you That i'm not
so sure that that you, know people, talk well he
was he was still under, contract but they're still friends
and you talk to. Agents i'm not so sure That
Buster posey didn't already know That boachie was going to
be out in In uh with The, rangers and so

(02:23:19):
you make the move to get rid of A kg
veteran Like Bob melvin and knowing that Boach, hell maybe
boach has already told Him i'm, In i'm got to,
Here i'm.

Speaker 2 (02:23:26):
In if you, know if we if we sacked the,
manager would would he would he come?

Speaker 7 (02:23:30):
Back? Yeah, yeah he come.

Speaker 2 (02:23:31):
Back, well if you Liked melvin and you still got
rid of, him even though you haven't won like you want.
To but if you like him and you got rid of,
him it means you've already had a conversation With boche
if that's Your if that's, you you're targeting to be your.
Manager these things and, familiarity we know how that, Goes
so read it'll come down, to probably If boachie wants
to do, it and we'll see for.

Speaker 6 (02:23:50):
Sure Randy adrian Tim, work you guys in the conversation

Speaker 8 (02:25:48):
Shana i'm like. You i'm a Big astro And Red sox.
Fan so with that series tonight up In New, york
that's going to be a great, night you, know And
i'm pretty.

Speaker 2 (02:25:57):
EXCITED i can't, wait, MAN i cannot wait.

Speaker 8 (02:26:00):
With you because it's probably one of the, biggest the
biggest rivalries in, SPORTS i mean all of.

Speaker 2 (02:26:07):
Sports so it's gonna be a nice, night you know for.

Speaker 5 (02:26:10):
Sure.

Speaker 8 (02:26:11):
Uh but with The, astros, uh you, KNOW i love The, astros,
brother you, know but they got a big problem, Brother,
UH i mean third. Base you, know what are they
going to do because it's my opinion That carlo's career
is better Than.

Speaker 2 (02:26:26):
Iza you, know he's just, better, brother and he's always in, shape.

Speaker 19 (02:26:30):
You, Know so they got they got that to deal.

Speaker 8 (02:26:32):
With they have so, many so many problem, BROTHER i don't.

Speaker 9 (02:26:35):
Know what they're gonna.

Speaker 8 (02:26:35):
Do but one thing for Shore sean is h the
manager At. Spata i'm telling. YOU i, mean they lost
so many games that they should have.

Speaker 9 (02:26:45):
Won they were losing.

Speaker 15 (02:26:46):
Games that Was it was.

Speaker 8 (02:26:48):
Embarrassing, brother, Explain oh my, GOD i mean not even showing.
Up they couldn't hit the, ball miss pop ups in the.
Infield that never. Happens, BROTHER i, mean like towards the
end of the, season they were not even you, know
they were dropping balls on you, know basic fly balls
on the, infield, Brother.

Speaker 6 (02:27:07):
So then the, players where do the players take accountability for?
That because that's what it sounds like to.

Speaker 8 (02:27:12):
Me, YEAH i, mean you know these are pro, players,
Right But i'm telling it's, management you, know IT'S i,
mean that's What i'm asking what players respond to. Coaching.
Right there's an old saying coaching can make you break, you,
RIGHT a coach can make you and can break. You
And i'm telling YOU A spata he's on the, line,

(02:27:33):
brother because this team underperformed AND i just have a
feeling That aspata is going to get. FIRED i think
you should get fired, period BECAUSE i, mean they should
have won this division, easily. Easily but how they, performed
how they, hit the mental mistakes in the, OUTFIELD i,

(02:27:53):
mean that's all, coaching. Brother And i'm telling you players
play up and they can play, down you, know and
a lot of that is. Coaching so it's my opinion
that you know, what The astros they need to fire
A spotted BECAUSE i think he's out of his.

Speaker 2 (02:28:06):
LEAGUE i really. Do and and that's all that's ALL i, got.
GUYS i appreciate.

Speaker 6 (02:28:10):
It, yeah thanks For. Andy no like drop pop ups
that's on a player not being in. Position that's on
a player having a poor approach at the, plate that's on.

Speaker 2 (02:28:19):
You, LIKE i, MEAN i understand manager to take some,
responsibility but the players don't take enough Respot but you
put them in those.

Speaker 6 (02:28:26):
SPOTS i get, it but too at the same, TIME i,
mean what do you think kose Al tuov doesn't know
with runners on second and third and you know less
than two, Outs, HEY i probably shouldn't roll one over
to third base, Here but then his approach and he
does because he tries to pull a ball on the.

Speaker 2 (02:28:41):
OUTSIDE i, mean, like what do you want him to?

Speaker 6 (02:28:43):
Do what do you want to, Say, hey you, know
we can let that ball come in a little bit
and we can take it the opposite.

Speaker 2 (02:28:48):
WAY i, mean are you really going to have that
conversation With Jose? Altuve i'm. Not and here's another thing
to get to The korea paratus thing if it was.
Me first of, All parade has got to be in the.
Lineup he prove that he's the one who moves. Positions
i'm not moving a. Surefire that left side of the
infield can't be as good as there is in baseball,

(02:29:08):
defensively and they've got phenomenal. Offense i'm just talking about.
POSITION i can find. Another if you're playing Al toove
in left, field let's just say you. Are there is
no reason why a third baseman cannot move and play second.
Base there's no reason he has to. It so if
they're making a, DECISION i would, guess especially if he

(02:29:31):
didn't Like korea moving hto first base And Christian walker
wasn't here because he can he's versat and can play any,
POSITION i would think That paradis would be the guy
to move and you would have an infield that Says Christian,
walker Esac. Paratus Jeremy peney And Carlos KRAY i believe
right as we said, today if it's not Al, tuove

(02:29:51):
if they don't get a left fielder and they make
Al tuove the full time left, fielder just like they tried,
TO i would think That paratus is where you started second.

Speaker 6 (02:30:00):
Base and it's also, TOO i, Mean correa's injury history
has to play into, that because playing up the, middle center, field,
shortstop second, base catcher premium positions is, tough a different
physical toll than playing the corner outfield's.

Speaker 2 (02:30:12):
Corner what a gold glove at third base. Too you
WATCH i definitely this, year that's exactly. Right So paradis
would be the. One BUT i Need paradis probably hitting
my two hole and playing second, base and that seems.
Natural you're not put him in the outfield and he's
not going TO.

Speaker 6 (02:30:26):
Dh here's the thing, though With, PARADIS i, mean AND
i think we're gonna have to find this out.

Speaker 2 (02:30:29):
Today what are we looking? At is he going to
have to undergo? Surgery it's another thing that comes down
now if out what'll piss me? Off, honestly AND i
appreciate his? Grind what will piss me off if all
of a sudden he has to have surgery and we're
what two months? Behind, yeah something like? That which which
will because then it's a question was it worth?

Speaker 7 (02:30:48):
It right?

Speaker 2 (02:30:49):
Now that slows down the process Of, okay are you
going to be? Healthy are you going to miss the
first thirty or forty? Games and then all of a,
sudden now, second then you can try. It now you've
got to readjust the lineup again because you want his
bat and he was in he played, good solid third.
Base but if he's healthy and nothing happens to go
to spring training as we sit today And al Two
veay's got to be in the, Lineup and the truth

(02:31:09):
of the matter Is al two bays he's not winning
A Gold glove at either right, now but he's serviceable
enough at. Both, defensively the natural play would be to
Move paradis to second base if you're going to, go
if you're keeping the roster as is in the, Infield
paradis has to. Play he's not going TO, dh so
the natural move for him would be second, base Because

(02:31:30):
i'm not Wasting Carlos carea's glove somewhere. Else it's not. Relevant,
well it's also AND i say, relevant of course your.
Relevant it's an easier. Position it's. Not it's not as.

Speaker 6 (02:31:40):
DIFFICULT i, mean obviously You Jeremy, Pania BUT i mean,
again the injuries have to factor, in for no. Doubt
why he has started to be oft injured like he
has throughout his, career no. Doubt AND i think a
position change like third base that helps him be able
to stave some of that. Off all, Right, Tim Chris
mark will work in before we close up shop here
on A Tejano, tuesday The Matt Thomas show With ross

(02:32:02):
is coming up ten to, two and don't forget ASTROS
Gm Dana brown and Manager Joe.

Speaker 2 (02:32:08):
SPOT i am going to meet with the media at eleven.

Speaker 6 (02:32:09):
O'clock all that's still to come right, Here Sean salisbury,
Show Sports talk seven Ninety.

Speaker 2 (02:32:14):
All, right, guys let's discuss Doctor Jeff witz At. Envision,
okay he's been nothing but spectacular for. ME i always
say WHEN i want to know. It first, off how
in the world would somebody who's never Used lasik or
never been to the eye doctor for something, Important how
in the world would they be able to speak on?

(02:32:34):
Somebody talk to the people who've used. It Doctor witz
has been with me every step of the way for
the last seven or eight. Years every step he's been.
Phenomenal so talk to and Friends i've sent him the same.
Way talk to those, people not the one Who, Well
i'm thinking about getting it. Done but, here let me

Speaker 12 (02:34:00):
Uh, yes, sir, WELL i just wanted to always say.
THAT i have been A astros fan since the early
sixties when they're the coach forty fives and my dad
would take take us to Buff stadium there across from
where you've h main campus. Is but, UH i just
noticed something AND i, think, uh it was a miraculous

(02:34:22):
season with all the injuries in many, Ways, HOWEVER i
just don't think you can in modern times manage a
baseball team or coach a baseball team with a manager
that is nothing but a bunch of uh what SHOULD i, say.
Soundbites and that's WHAT i get From joe a. SPOT

(02:34:45):
i don't maybe he's not uh real at ease to
be interviewed on the radio or. TELEVISION i, really you
know you can't tell it ON. Tv but the things
that he, said he's just a bunch of. SoundBite i
don't know how bunch of soundbites can motivate players or teach, players.

Speaker 6 (02:35:06):
Right but, YEAH i get what you're, Saying. CHRIS i,
MEAN i still want to be able to get some
other people. In, look it's not to say That joe
is not free from. CRITICISM i MEAN i said at
numerous times where you, know at one point in the
season where you booth where you move Both yinor And
Christian walker down in the, order and they have one
of the best games of their season and then the

(02:35:26):
very following. Game all, right let's put them back in
the middle of the, Order, No, Joe, like do you
not understand? That like maybe they're finally starting to find
some comfort right.

Speaker 2 (02:35:35):
There and it's okay to criticize fairly and. Stuff, listen
we're STILL i think we're still in seeing what you.
Know we know what kind of bench coach he, was
and he had a team in the playoffs last. Year
unfortunately they got beaten, too and they didn't make it this.
Year it's. Evaluation it's fair if you do it with.
Everybody and it's fair to to disagree with some of
the decision he. Makes help people disagree with decisions And

(02:35:57):
hall Of fame players And hall Of fame managers all the.
Time but you, know we got to always guard against
all of us from saying all or nothing like. That you,
know they always and never well it's always like, this,
now it's not always like. That he's done a good.
Job his biggest strength this year was somehow some way
to keep this team afloat in competitive and the players

(02:36:18):
as well attribute to. Them it's not a LIKE i,
said it's not a moral, victory but to do what
they did was just pretty. Fantastic, now the other side
of it is with the guys yet out, there when
you had players healthy and when they were for the
most part or what have you doing their thing that
it doesn't matter who the player. Is if you're in
the middle of the lineup and there's a guy on
second third and you got no wyts and you can't

(02:36:39):
push him, across that's a player and a manager problem with.
You either you got the wrong guy in there or
put in too much. Trust so there's some things That
joe And i'm Sure joseph self, evaluate and that's one
of the greatest things good leaders and good coaches. Do
you got self. Evaluate joe's got some things to, fix
as do the. PLAYERS i don't think it's time to.
Fire if they don't make the playoffs next, year be a,
problem but we're not.

Speaker 1 (02:37:00):
Yet.

Speaker 2 (02:37:00):
Now you got to evaluate going, forward do you believe
he gives you the best chance as a, manager and
if he, does you ride with it and. GO i
Think joe did a really good. JOB i do BECAUSE
i think it would have been tough for any Manager
Terry francona, included who is as good as there is
to get through. This but the other side of it
is we're in a world now we don't have patience with.
Coaches we don't have patience with managers that if it

(02:37:22):
Does Bruce bochie won A World series two years ago
and is out of a job now he can get.
One but get my, Point so there is no patience
anywhere with. People and would it shocky in the sports
world as somebody games that were Replacing. Joe absolutely, not
because that's the way things. Work would it surprise, Me
it absolutely. Would joe's. Good we're waiting for him to be,

(02:37:43):
great and unfortunately for, Him Dusty baker and aj hinch
are are tough to compare to, well and he's going
to have to carve his own. WAY i think it's
also A joe.

Speaker 6 (02:37:52):
Too to the caller's, Point chris's, POINT i mean it
was the one for, eleven one for twelve with runners
in scoring, position and then, afterwards, zah you, Know pitcher
really pitched.

Speaker 2 (02:38:01):
Well we put together some good at. Bats it's, like,
no you went one for twelve with runners in scoring.
Position you were twenty third in with runners in scoring,
position not good at. Bats the one thing they're not
the one Thing joe, does and some can like it
and some. CAN'T i kind of sit in between at,
times depending on the game That, joe in my, opinion
is always going to err on the side of making
sure the player is not. Upset you know What i'm.

(02:38:23):
Saying AND i hate to tell you, This at, times
sometimes you got to upset the player to get a
reaction for. You if you just do not disrespecting, them
it's okay to put them on blast a little, bit
meaning like what like What Dan campbell did To Jared
goff when he first got. THERE i got to have
more out Of Jared goff and he's given you. More
so those things, happen AND i Think joe's evolving in

(02:38:46):
that because the one thing you always got to guard
against is the friendship comes. Second the managerial part comes,
first and it's a learning. Process he's only been doing
it two, years so the, PATIENT i don't think he's going. Anywhere, No,
mark real.

Speaker 13 (02:38:59):
Quick.

Speaker 1 (02:39:01):
I'm a Big astros, fan but you, know just listening
to you talk just, now how do you expect the
MANAGER i agree that the spot of didn't make every
decision THAT i would have. Made, Uh but you remember
he's making it with minor. Leaguers that's what we.

Speaker 2 (02:39:18):
Said injuries are a. Problem.

Speaker 1 (02:39:19):
YES i went to watch The Space cowboys play and
it was like watching The Houston astros play last. Week you.

Speaker 2 (02:39:25):
Know, Yeah, UH i.

Speaker 1 (02:39:27):
DON'T i don't Uh and AGAIN i. DON'T i don't
care for all of every move that that spot have. Made.
Uh but that being, said eighteen players on the injured
list of the. Year, YES i don't know what the
statistics are with the other, teams but we got some
issues with The uh, yeah the JUDGMENT i GOT i got.

Speaker 2 (02:39:49):
You, Mark i'm, sorry, man you heard the. Music so
we got to. GO i say this real quick THAT
i had him. Continue are we? DONE i GUESS i
had him as manager of the year three quarters the
way through the season and the shot what he? Overcame
there you, go there you.

Speaker 6 (02:40:03):
Go He's Shawn, Tripoli Emmanuel, Elmore Dan, Matthews Matt Thomas
show With thross coming up.

Speaker 2 (02:40:07):
Next talk to you in twenty. Hours
