Speaker 4 (00:25):
Rockets at King's nine pm tip off, eight o'clock launch
pad right here on seven out of your home for
Rockets basketball. Texans in there bye week, Broncos beat down
the Browns in Monday Night football.
Speaker 3 (00:35):
Christian McCaffrey headed to the IR. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (00:40):
And as we get into the eight o'clock hour, breaking
news coming out of the NFL, Texans linebacker Aziz al
shaire Uh suspended three games for his hit on Trevor Lawrence.
The VP of the Football Ops of the NFL, John Runyon, saying,
quote your lack of sportsmanship and respect for the game
(01:03):
of football and all those who play, coach and enjoy
watching it is troubling and does not reflect the core
values of the NFL.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
End quote John run In what position do you think
he played in the league? Oh, my goodness, is he
a quarterback? No? He played offensive lineman for a long time. Well,
there you go, and protecting quarterbacks, right, my goodness, and
John's been you know, part of that for a minute now.
And John was a was a good football player himself.
I don't believe this is I don't believe this is
(01:32):
a one time. It's Remember I said yesterday when somebody
had called in about four to four day all four games.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
I thought, well, man, that's CBA.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
Well you know that's a ped thing, and the CBA
may not allow you on a hit to do four day.
I don't know what the rules are of the protocol.
I don't know because those change as well. But this
is a steep fine and that's three I'm sure it's
three missed game checks too.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
I would imagine they're going to find him for not playing.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
I don't know that answer, but I can tell you
this that he that that's that's steep and heavy. I
don't believe this is a one off. I believe this
has cumulative effect on him. I mean, I believe that
you know, the shot to the Bears he's had. I
think they look at the compilation and say, this guy's
(02:22):
when I say, repeat offender, this guy's been in situations
more than once. Wow, And so I I that's just
my opinion, I don't believe they just saw it and said,
you know, dirty pud, let's do it. I think they
like you and like you see all over social media, think, okay,
is there a history here? And unfortunately for him, not
like on Lawrence, but there is a history of late hit,
(02:43):
out of bounds, punch of guy in the face when
there's a bunch of people sitting around in the helmet.
This is steep and it's sending a loud message that
they're not going to tolerate it, and it's it's gonna
it's hurtful. And then he and I don't think his
response helped. I saw that on the field. Yeah, so wait,
the lack of remorse, I guess you'd say the VP
(03:07):
uh Runyon said. And this is an official statement from
the NFL, and I haven't seen this statement. So it says,
quote after the illegal hit, you proceeded to engage in
a brawl, which you escalated when you pulled an opponent
down to the ground by his face mask. After the
referee announced that you were disqualified for the hit and
your unsportsman like acts, you removed your helmet and re
engaged with your opponent while walking down and across the field,
(03:30):
which started another physical confrontation near the end zone, and
then he goes on to continue to say the lack
of sportsmanship, which I already read. He's going to be
eligible to return to the roster following following the team's
Week seventeen game against Baltimore, So he's going to be
out against the Dolphins, the Chiefs, and the Baltimore Ravens.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
Do you think that warranted three games?
Speaker 4 (03:53):
I think when you read this statement and you think
about other things that have happened this year with him
and the optics and the fight afterwards and not leaving
the field immediately, yeah.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
I do too.
Speaker 1 (04:05):
If you're if you're trying to send a safety message, yes,
and a respect and integrity message on the field, I
think it's it's uh, it's it's sucks, but fair. Remember
you Rob Peter, you pay Paul. I don't want him
to not be aggressive. You want him to be you know,
wise and how he approaches it and how he plays
the game. But sometimes we don't send loud enough messages.
(04:28):
And so it's, oh, one game, but that's not that
big a deal. But three games, that's a lot of money,
and that's a lot of miss football at a time
when quite frankly, they're going to need him.
Speaker 4 (04:37):
Yeah, that's a huge stretch of there's no doubt that
is that's the biggest then and it's ten days.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
There's no doubt that's right.
Speaker 3 (04:43):
Oh my goodness.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
So he uh, I don't I figured it was going
to be harsh, maybe two games. This is harsh, but
the actions warranted it. And plus if he'd just if
he had gone over there to Larrence after somebody hit
him and you know that and just walked off the field,
you know, you know that that feeling that look the optics,
(05:06):
the optics were bad even after the hit, almost as
if he didn't care. Now, I know he cares, he
saw his post was that on Instagram? He cares, But
they's still not enough in the NFL's eyes. And there's
been some incidents leading up to this that that I
think helped make the decision a little easier. And I
love this guy as a football player. I don't know
(05:28):
him as a human, but as a football player. But
I would have reacted like like Jacksonville. And I also
know that I think the NFL, if you wanted a
louder message, I'm not sure where.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
You're going to get it.
Speaker 1 (05:38):
You got it, Yeah, yeah, you got expensive one and
a loud one. But you know what, he put a
player in major danger on Sunday. He did, and whether
it was intentional or not, he put it in major danger.
And then all the stuff after that escalated. He was
he was in the fray. This doesn't shock me.
Speaker 4 (05:57):
Says in the official statement from the NFL as He's
au Shire of the Houston Texans has been suspended without
pay for three games for repeated violations of rules intended
to protect the health and safety of players and promote sportsmanship,
including during Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. So right there,
the very opening statement in this press release says, repeated
(06:20):
violations of rules. So the league has taken notice of.
I think it's cumulative. I don't think there's backing up exactly.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
If this is the first time and he walked off
the field after it felt bad and showed it, they
would have they would have. I don't think it would
have been three games. I think there's a cumulative effect
to this in the optics from past games carried over
to this one, and this was the most blatant one
and it cost him and what's his salary? Let me
(06:50):
double check when you do that. Now, just do you
talk about an expensive hit? I mean that's three games.
You know, what's.
Speaker 4 (07:00):
He's making three year. He's signed a three year, thirty
four million dollar deal. So what's a little over eleven
a year?
Speaker 2 (07:07):
So let's just.
Speaker 1 (07:07):
Round it off the twelve million and twelve million a year.
Remember they're the I think he's.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
The the the they're.
Speaker 1 (07:19):
Taking the money out from his normal salary, right, yeah,
his game checks. Yeah, so you do that after you
pro rate, you know, you break it up into sixteen
I mean seventeen games, whatever that adds up to, and
then you take three of those game checks away. That's
gotta be what seven hundred grand a week something in
that range.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
If it's twelve.
Speaker 1 (07:38):
Million a year, we'll just round up to twelve million
divided by seventeen, right, Yeah, that's about seven hundred grand
a game. Yeah, well that's that's two that's over two million.
That's a two million dollar suspension. Yeah, yeah, it's seven
and five grand. If it's twelve, it's right around two
million bucks. Yeah, that he's going to lose. Wow, for
(08:01):
three weeks, and and and and the money matters, and
the fact that you're losing a really a hell of
a football player on the field.
Speaker 3 (08:08):
But a big party.
Speaker 1 (08:09):
But it's part because I do believe it's a cumulative
We've seen there's been enough in past games to say, Okay,
these guys are being looked at. And then the most
heinous one was this past weekend. Yeah, it was. It's
it was a tough watch to see. But this doesn't
shock me at all.
Speaker 4 (08:23):
This is gonna have bigger I mean, obviously it's gonna
have rampifications for his bank account for all the money
he's gonna be losing. But it's gonna have some big
ramifications for that defense too, because you're gonna go into
a stretch of three games in ten days against the
Miami Dolphins, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Baltimore Ravens.
Speaker 1 (08:41):
Yeah, and you know what, you know what happens to
bodies in ten gate three games in ten days.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
You get beat up, Yes, and so you need depth.
Speaker 3 (08:47):
You need depth.
Speaker 1 (08:48):
And then the next the next question is does this
affect his aggressiveness on the field where you get a
little more And it would be human nature to tiptoe
around a little bit, because you don't you just lost
two million dollars.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
Yeah, mm hmmmm. So the think they went, Hey, good
thing they went and got Devin White.
Speaker 1 (09:05):
Harsh, harsh, but probably needed if you're sending the safety message.
Speaker 4 (09:10):
Man, Jamal Hill's gonna have to play more, Devin White's
gonna have to play more. Nevill Hewitt's gonna have to
play more.
Speaker 1 (09:19):
And they're all gonna have to play well and stay healthy.
I was gonna saying stay healthy.
Speaker 4 (09:23):
This is nuts man seven one three two one two
five seven ninety Texans fans, you think three games is
too much? I already got a couple of tweets coming
in that they think some of the Texas fans think
three games is too much.
Speaker 1 (09:35):
And I don't blame them, just like they and everybody
else around the legue say it's not enough or it's perfect.
I saw one locally here they'll say it's way too much.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
One guy said it should have been for the rest
of the season.
Speaker 2 (09:45):
If I saw somebody else say that yesterday.
Speaker 4 (09:47):
Wow, Texans linebacker is He's Al Shaire suspended four three
games without pay. That coming straight from the league off
as Texans fans is it too much?
Speaker 3 (09:57):
Let us know.
Speaker 4 (09:57):
Seven one three, two one two five, seven ninety is
the number to join. We will talk about the fallout
and the ramifications of the au Schier suspension for the
Texans and their defense.
Speaker 3 (10:07):
That's next to Sports Talk Seve ninety
