Speaker 1 (00:02):
Say, Salisbury, Hot, Okay, let's do this.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Sewan Salisbury to usc True's longtime friend Shawn Salisbury.

Speaker 3 (00:14):
Dan Matthews, this is the Sean Salisbury Show.

Speaker 4 (00:23):
You got Dan Matthews, you got Triple Emmanuel Elmore hanging
out with you.

Speaker 5 (00:26):
I'm just kidding, Houston. Sports is still fun.

Speaker 4 (00:28):
It's just not been a fun last few days because,
I mean, we went through everything yesterday and we we
know what happened over the weekend. Then yesterday you're kind
of like, all right, it's an off day for the
Astros Texans.

Speaker 5 (00:41):
I mean, Dmiko Rants told us we're close. We're close.
He did.

Speaker 4 (00:45):
He did say that we'll hear from Demiico a little
bit later on the show. And then Sean Sharania says, hey, Houston,
if you're not disappointed in your baseball team and your
football team, enough, how about some disappointing basketball news. Everyone
was looking forward to the Rockets season. It's the year
of KD. Rockets spent all off season putting together all

(01:06):
of this depth, re signing all these guys, Right, how
hard was it to build this roster, to get all
of those veterans to come back. You keep Aaron Holliday,
and you keep Jay Chantate on the back end of
that roster. You're gonna bring up Reed Sheppard. He's finally
gonna get to play a men. Thompson is blossoming into
a superstar. You have Kevin Durant now Alprin Shngoon went

(01:28):
out in the euro Tournament and looked great. He's an
all star coming off of this year. You finally got
rid of Jalen Green, who we have discussed at length
the times that I've been on this show. And then
Fred van Vliet in a team workout before the season
can even start, doesn't just get hurt torn ACL out

(01:48):
for probably the year given acl injuries, your veteran who
restructured his contract to make sure that the Rockets could
have the cap space they need to stay under the Aprons,
so you could resign all of this depth you need.
And despite all the depth they have, who's going to
play point guard?

Speaker 2 (02:07):
Now?

Speaker 4 (02:08):
Yeah, I mean it pretty much looks at Reed Shephard.
I mean, is Aaron Holliday, who has done some good
things for the Rockets, does he become the starting points?
I mean, all of those questions are valid, but I
mean that's just it, Like where again, where the Astros
just have a putrid, putred weekend series against the Mariners.

(02:30):
I mean where you were really not competitive in either
of those games. I understand what Saturday was, but you
still renown six to nothing and you did have a
chance to win it, but regardless. And then the Texans,
where I mean, this is on track right now to
be a historically bad offense because didn't really even think
about it until'm listening to Adam and Adamy I stay
on the A team and Wex brings up the point

(02:52):
they've scored three touchdowns this entire season three. There's teams
who have scored more than three in one game in
the Texan and they've had to really really juice that
fruit in order to get those touchdowns too, where you
get the first touchdown against the Bucks last week where
nice drive and you're kind of like, okay, hey, maybe
they found a little bit of rhythm as an offense,

(03:13):
this will be good.

Speaker 5 (03:14):
And then after that you don't score.

Speaker 4 (03:16):
Until later and maybe, just maybe the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
might have just let you into the end zone for
that one. And then last week where you finally after
a turnover, get the get the touchdown and are able
to score. But I mean to the point about the Rockets,
where it's just you see all the tweets on Sunday
after it's not looking good for the Astros to win

(03:38):
and they're gonna be three games down into vision, all right, well,
at least we have the Rockets save us KD. And
then you get this yesterday and you're just like, damn it, man,
like damn it, Like I really want to know, like
who upset the sports gods around here? Like who we need?
We need to get to the bottom of this. We
need to find this out. We need a seance, we
need a soothsayer, we need some in order to be

(04:01):
able to find this out for us. This has been
a really bad forty eight hour stretch here. The if
you want to go back even a couple of weeks,
for all of our rugby fans, the SaberCats don't even
exist now, right, Like, how rough of a stretch has
this been?

Speaker 6 (04:17):
There?

Speaker 4 (04:17):
You got all this all this hype for the Texans season.
They're zero and three and staring down. There's been very
few teams, things like six or something, that have made
the playoffs after being owing three the last one being
the twenty eighteen Texans, so that I was brought up
Tomiko yesterday, so you can, yeah, you can lean on
that if you hope and believe. And even now with
the seventeen game schedule and the fact that their division

(04:39):
is soft is baby turns, but you're.

Speaker 5 (04:42):
Owing one in it, So what does that say about you?

Speaker 4 (04:45):
Right, they're owing three and they do not look good
doing It's not like they're I do demiko, we're close,
We're close, you can't score. This isn't like we're losing shootouts.
And you gotta look at the Ravens. Right, the Ravens
played last night. I watched that game. They're one, which
is not a good place to be. It's obviously a
significantly better place to be than own three. The Chiefs
are one and two. But the Chiefs took care of

(05:06):
business against the bad team that they played in, the
New York Giants, who probably need to stop having Russell
Wilson at quarterback.

Speaker 5 (05:13):
The Ravens lost to.

Speaker 4 (05:15):
The Bills, who are good in a very fun game, right,
forty one to forty signed me up for that every
single time they lose. Last night to the Lions, who
are clearly really good. In a really fun game. Sign
me up for that game. Every night when you watch
the Texans games, it's almost like the Astros losses, they

(05:35):
are a slog.

Speaker 5 (05:37):
Nobody scores. Everyone was complaining.

Speaker 4 (05:40):
Everyone outside of Houston, everyone outside of Jacksonville was complaining
at how awful the Texans Jags game was. And that's
just not only do you not want to be bad,
which they are right now, you don't want to be boring,
and they are both things, and that's the worst place.

Speaker 1 (05:55):
You could be.

Speaker 4 (05:56):
Yeah, well, I mean, you know, we once learned that
there was such a way of being bad and bougie,
and in this case right here, it's the it's the
opposite of bad and bougie, bad and boring.

Speaker 5 (06:05):
BB. I think you might need to make the remix
I was gonna say.

Speaker 4 (06:09):
I mean, if anybody wants to, you know, reach out
and see if we can get a remix done, or
I mean, you know, I'm sure bun can probably whip
something up, you know, or find a way that way
of Texans twenty twenty five bad and boring. You want
me to FaceTime when he wakes up, probably not at
six am, Paul Wall and see if we can get
some stuff you say, yeah, yeah, Paul, you want to

(06:29):
step in, you know and cut a track for us,
Please feel free, because I mean it's just it's it's
not only that, it's just I mean, it's it's everything
where I mean, let's just, you know, go back to
the Astros for a second, because of course they get
their series started tonight against the A's out in Sacramento,
and I mean, you know, I don't think to a
certain point that people had high expectations for what could

(06:52):
happen for this season, because it is like one of
those where once you're in it, then your expectations can change.
Like when the Astros were twenty games about five hundred,
it was all right, like maybe they do have something
here and maybe the moves they made this offseason, like
in a way it kind of had shades of twenty
twenty two almost where you hear me, Paine is hitting,

(07:13):
and I mean you're getting contributions out of guys that
replace the other guys that you had go out the
door that were really good for you, and all of
a sudden, it just it changed overnight. Where as soon
as Esock Perette pretty much as soon as Estock Perettis
got hurt. That's when this lineup said, yeah, hey, we
don't really know how to put together good at bats anymore. Sorry,
despite what our manager tells you, we really don't. Like

(07:37):
you're gonna get a lot of bouncers and rollers to
third base and shortstop. You'll get lazy fly balls and
pop ups with runners in scoring position. That's pretty much
what you're gonna get. And it was again you talked
about Texan's game being a slog. It's the way the
Astros offense has been for most of the season, and
now with the hope that we had, that's what makes

(07:58):
the Astros finish even that much more disappointing. Yeah, that
is a you suck paratus injury that changed the season
because they right in that stretch that was when everyone
was hurt. That's when our Cooper Hummels and our Zach
Schortz were running out in the lineup and they were
still somehow winning at a decent clip. And Cam Smith, remember,
at one point, was sitting like two ninety one. He
was playing really, really well, and then he hit the

(08:20):
like he slammed into the rookie wall, and you got
all you're gonna get. All this pitching back, and that
was that was the line that Dana Brown and everyone uses, like, Hey,
somehow we are playing with eighteen guys on the il
and still playing okay, but imagine once we get our
pitching back. And to their credit, they did the right
thing at the trade deadline and went and got the

(08:43):
pieces that they needed except.

Speaker 5 (08:45):
For a starting pitcher.

Speaker 4 (08:46):
And I sort of understand why they didn't get a
starting pitcher in the sense of one, you're going to
get Arrogeddy back, and you're going to get Luis Garcia back,
and you're going to get Christian Javier back.

Speaker 5 (08:54):
And I can tell you right now.

Speaker 4 (08:56):
As someone who spent all week calling people during the
train deadline and talking to people, the prices for starting
pitchers were prohibitive. And I know, you know fans will
go out and go why did Dana get a starting pitcher?

Speaker 5 (09:08):
Do you want to give up Yiner Diaz?

Speaker 4 (09:10):
Do you want to get don't say yes, do you
want to give up Spencer Arraghetty? Are there are people
who just sealed at their radio and said, yes, yes
you do not sick and tired of seeing the one
handed swing over the slider. Yes, it is very hard
to get an offensive catcher. Yeah, it's very hard to
get an offensive catcher the way that yaner Da, even
if his season has been disappointing this year, and he

(09:32):
still has three years of team control left. So you
don't want to give up on yinor Diaz for a
rental starting pitcher like a Dylan Ceese or a Sandy
Alcntra who is not a rental but also like a
six y Ra at the time, who he's now fixed it,
and I'm sure he would have been fine on the Astros.
So I understand why they didn't get starting pitching. It
was prohibitive. The prices were prohibitive for Dana Brown. He

(09:54):
is not lying when he said that. And they went
out and on paper, Hazus Sanchez fit in that lineup perfectly.
Carlos Korea, you just got your clubhouse leader back, even
though I do think it's it's kind of strange to
July thirty first, go hey, everybody, I know you've been
playing for four months now and you'll have your leader. Yeah,

(10:16):
you lost Alex Bregman. Here's the new kid in school.
He used to go to this school and now he's
in charge. And whatever leadership you've built up over the
past four months.

Speaker 5 (10:26):
Now you listen to this guy.

Speaker 4 (10:28):
And that's not saying that Correa doesn't deserve it, because
that is his role in the locker room. But it
is kind of strange. The Astros are like the kings
of let's bring this guy back at the trade deadline
that we used to know. They're like the anti Gotier,
like somebody I used to know is now coming back
and now he's the guy. And August by, you know,

(10:49):
August seventh, you got a week to figure out where
you are in the hierarchy. You just know that you
are below carls Karre in the hierarchy, and they got Urius,
they barely use Ureus and Hazu Sanchez has not been
what he was supposed to be and legitimately is a
non tender candidate. And at the trade deadline, I don't
think you can look at that trade, which is you know,
Ryan Gusto in a couple of minor leaguers and go

(11:12):
Al was a terrible move. I wasn't it was a
good move. It made sense. The guy's just not performing. Yeah, no,
it's it's definitely been frustrating to see and I mean,
you've wanted to see him, you know, be able to
contribute more than he has. And I mean I think
in some ways that Dana Brown almost looked at this
trade deadline a lot like the way when he was
the assistant GM in Atlanta. The way that they treated

(11:34):
that trade deadline after Ronald Acuno Junior went down is
they go out and get Jock Peterson and you're just
kind of like, Okay, they go out and get Adam
Duval and they go out and get Eddie Rosario and
you're just kind of like eh, I mean, you know,
decent enough moves. But then the thing was is I
think that Dana was almost like, hey, these guys can
kind of be like that they can catch lightning in
a bottle and really help this team. Like I think

(11:55):
he looked at Heyesus Sanchez almost like the season that
Eddie Rosario had, Rosario was the LCSMVP that year, he
was unbelievable that in that LCS So I think that
probably he looked at it kind of that way. But yeah,
I mean you almost forget that Ramonirius is even still
part of this team. Like I'm sure like if me
and you were in the clubhouse, be like, oh yeah,

(12:15):
he's still here because like it kind of got to
a point where you're just like, all right, Mauricio du
Bond can do all of that, and you know.

Speaker 5 (12:22):
We really trust his bat much more than we trust that. Guys.

Speaker 4 (12:25):
It's been a weird fit because you have a Ramone
Uius and that Ramon Uius plays outfield. They're almost virtually
the same player, except Dubon is like a little better
at everything.

Speaker 5 (12:38):
And I get it. It's depth.

Speaker 4 (12:40):
You needed guys at that point, Like you were running
up Zach short and you had to put Bryce Matthews
in the major leagues before Bryce Matthews was ready to
be in the major leagues, and you're calling up, I mean,
all sorts of these outfielders right like Zach Cole is
up right now and proving that he belongs to stick,
but Jacob Melton up until Jacob Melton got hurt, and
like I said, the Cooper Hummels of the world, which,
by the way, shout out Cooper Hummel, who is crushing

(13:03):
in Triple A for the Rays. Like he once he
got DFAD and signed to another team, he ended up
just like destroying minor league pitching like he always does.
It just hasn't translated to the big leagues for the
four or five teams he's played for.

Speaker 5 (13:16):
Quad A guy.

Speaker 4 (13:18):
Yeah he is that, uh, but that's who they were
running out, And so Ramoniaeus, who was a very legitimate
major league player, he's just kind of a redundant major
league player on this roster. Yeah, unfortunately that's the case.
He's a little block. But the Astros postseason push is
gonna start tonight. They're gonna be in Sacramento, taken on
the a's eight o'clock Astros on deck, coming your way.

(13:41):
Texans off from the practice field today, but they're gonna
get back out of tomorrow getting ready for the Tennessee
Titans on Sunday at NRG and uh also too, as
we talked about Fred van Vliet. According to Sea, I'm
Sharani of ESPN tearing his ACL in an offseason workout
and going to miss this season. Other than that, things
are awesome here. It's just great. I mean, we're we're

(14:01):
loving it. We're having fun. I mean at least our
weather is. Oh yeah, the weather's just still really hot.
I mean gas prices are down.

Speaker 5 (14:11):
Yeah, yeah, I.

Speaker 4 (14:12):
Filled up for like less than two sixty last night,
so you know you're using eighty seven?

Speaker 5 (14:18):
No, how did you fill up far less? Where like
for per gallen? Yeah?

Speaker 4 (14:23):
Up in spring Woodlands. That makes sense. Yeah, that's why
you just get you gotta go a little bit out
of town. It's okay, all right, I'm gonna drive forty
minutes to That's fine. Fine, that's fine. There you go,
So come on, come on up and see us. But uh, anyway,
that's that's what we got. And uh, we'll be a
lot of astros, a lot of Texans and of course
Fred van Vliet, where do the rockets go from here?

Speaker 5 (14:42):
All of that?

Speaker 4 (14:43):
Uh you know how to find us someone three two
and two five seven ninety. Maybe you don't, but now
you do someone three two one two five seven ninety.
Let's get into the astros a little bit, because well
there's no time to wait and the present is very
very very urgent for you, and we'll talk about that
here as we're just getting going on a Tuesday edition again.
Ari Alexander in for Sean right here, Sean Salisbury Show,

(15:06):
Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 7 (15:08):
I am a dip guy, you say, Shaun will kind Well,
I can tell you what kind of dip daisy French
onion dip.

Speaker 5 (15:15):
And the daisy ranch dip.

Speaker 7 (15:17):
Now I am, I'm like the finger food appetizer chips,
you know, throw a fredo in their chips to get
the dips. Sometimes to the point on college game day
or during saturdays and studies, get up put the spread.
It always has the daisy french onion dip or the
daisy ranch dip. Was in the local grocery store over
the weekend picking it up. And why because well, the

(15:37):
other food's fine and dandy later in the day, but
in order to get you through, And don't you do
it on holidays too, you do it on Labor Day,
you do it on holidays.

Speaker 5 (15:44):
You do it sports and it's sports season.

Speaker 7 (15:46):
This is this is daisy French onion dip and ranch
dip time of year, right and now it comes out
with this delicious french onion dip. As an obsession of mine.
They are delicious. Is homemade dip. You can add whatever
you want to, but you won't need to because they
got the real erbs and spices and the other ingredients
you'd find in your own kitchen.

Speaker 5 (16:03):
But they're doing it for you.

Speaker 7 (16:05):
Pop on into your local grocery store and find out
what I already know and have known. And I'm grateful
to be part of this where I get to well
spend my college football Saturday and Sundays or any other
day of the week doing what really is the strength
of a meal. My chips and dips, and it's Daisy
French onion dip and daisy ranch dip.

Speaker 5 (16:26):
I can go to my refrigerator and take a picture.
You'll see it. Now, visualize it, and then go out
and do it.

Speaker 7 (16:31):
Get to your local grocery store and look for Daisy
French onion dip at a grocery.

Speaker 5 (16:35):
Store near you. Why isn't the rat race more Racy.

Speaker 4 (16:41):
Grow construction completely shutting down the Southwest streetwayers.

Speaker 3 (16:46):
Anyway, enjoy your time crawling through Houston Road construction with
more shown.

Speaker 5 (16:52):
Salzburg on Sports Talk seven ninety We're great.

Speaker 4 (16:59):
Things are just that's awesome. Someone three two and two
five seventy nine. You get into the Astros conversation, Uh
triple e, says wan or John.

Speaker 5 (17:08):
Who is this? I believe it's one one in mob Bellevue.
What's up? One?

Speaker 2 (17:16):
All right?

Speaker 5 (17:16):
All right?

Speaker 8 (17:17):
So doom and gloom in Houston, right, we got a
whole lot of injuries.

Speaker 5 (17:23):
We got a whole lot.

Speaker 8 (17:24):
Of disappointment with the Astros, but we've always been the
favorites when it comes to the Astros. Nothing lights a
fire under your ass like being six games away from
the end of the season and.

Speaker 5 (17:42):
We gotta hold a little hope.

Speaker 8 (17:44):
And I really don't think Christian Walker has done anything
for us. I think that guy should be.

Speaker 9 (17:52):
On the move at the end of the season, make
room for.

Speaker 8 (17:56):
Isaac brant Is to take take that spot for a
space or even second base. That's my thoughts on that one. Now,
the Rockets, this Fred van Vite injury, This is a
blessing in disguise. Oh Fred van Vliet with a Fred

(18:17):
van Viet with a placeholder for what? For the point
guard position that who was going to take over eventually?

Speaker 5 (18:27):
Read Shepherd.

Speaker 9 (18:29):
Read Shepherd slash.

Speaker 8 (18:31):
Amen Thompson, Amen Thompson natural positions point guard. The ball
in Amen Thompson's hands is going to be great. And
we sleep on on Aaron Holiday, but he is a
solid backup point guard and I believe that Amon Thompson

(18:52):
and Reed Shepherd will emerge this year.

Speaker 4 (18:57):
Hopefully, hope, hopefully you're not wrong. Appreciate the call and
I guess got him on the way to work. But
I mean it. Now you have to believe because the
Rockets will have media day next week over at their
training center and Reed Shepherd is gonna be talked about
quite a bit. And I mean, Aaron Holliday, I would
probably guess to start the season, holiday is your starting point,

(19:20):
just because familiarity in the system. He's done some really
good things for you has been the starting point at
times when Fred has gone down. But here's what I
was thinking about this morning with it Ari is you
had a lot of people who were never Fred van
Vlieter's for van Vleet truthers out there that, ah, why
is he shooting the ball so much? He's killing us offensively. Well,

(19:41):
a lot of times he was doing that because you
had nobody else who would.

Speaker 5 (19:44):
So it was.

Speaker 4 (19:45):
Finally to a point where he was like, Okay, well
nobody else is gonna shoot the three, I'll shoot the
three if nobody else is gonna try. And it's not
to say that they're not trying to score points, but
you get what I'm saying is that he would try
to ignite the offense off you know, as best he
could well The thing that's that one of the biggest
bummers is not only about him missing the season, is
that you weren't gonna ask him to do that.

Speaker 5 (20:05):
Now you've got Kevin Durant.

Speaker 4 (20:07):
You've got him to go out there and be a
twenty five to thirty point a night guy. And yes,
he's gonna miss his games, but again, you're asking Fred
to do what he's best at, set up your offense,
set up your defense, and it's going to be hard
for them to be able to have without someone or
Megan some sort of trade adding a guy that is

(20:27):
better than Aaron Holiday. And it's no disrespect to Aaron Holiday,
but you are in the Western Conference. You are now battling.
And I'll just use them as for first example, because
the last example is the one that matters. But the
first example of the Lakers, right, they have Luka Doncic
at point guard. You're going to combat Luka Doncic with
Aaron Holiday. You have the Nuggets who you're facing. You

(20:49):
have Baby Jokic, and they have actual Jokic. And I
know Shengun is getting better and he's an All Star
this past year, but they have actual Nikola Jokic.

Speaker 5 (21:00):
Best player in the world.

Speaker 4 (21:01):
And then you have the NBA champions whose point guard
is the MVP, Shay Gilgess Alexander, and you're gonna run
up in a playoff series with second year Read Shepherd
or Aaron Holiday in a matchup against Shay Gilgess Alexander.
You gotta do something. And I'm not saying it needs

(21:22):
to be drastic. There's a list of free agents that
I just looked at that is not all that impressive.
How would you like a Russell Westbrook? Right, So the
other names on that list are not all that impressive.
There are moves they can make. They will get a
disabled player exception. I read yesterday from Bobby Marks at
ESPN that that can be up to twelve and a
half million dollars, And in the NBA today, twelve and

(21:44):
a half million is not necessarily a great That is
a rotational backup, right, But there are ways that you
can hide Read Shepherd a little bit through the first
half of the year, and the hope is by the
end of the year. Me saying that how are you
gonna je Reed Sheppardy and shake Gil just Alexander Luka
Doncic is less ridiculous because he has now taken a

(22:06):
little bit of a turn. A Men Thompson can play
point guard. I don't think you want a Men Thompson
to play point guard for thirty two to thirty six minutes.
I think he can do it in smaller doses. And
at the end of the game, do you want to
have a gigantic lineup? And I know the double big
worked last year with Steven Adams, but in what is

(22:27):
a small ball, positionless NBA, do you want for most
of forty eight minutes to run out a lineup of
six eight six seven point guard Kevin Durant who's six',
eleven another big In Shengoon, Tari Eason. JABBARI i mean
all just big dudes when they're just gonna run around.

(22:50):
You or The warriors who beat you in the playoff,
series whose specialty is small ball running Out draymond at
the five and then just running around you and Having
Steph curry just find. Threes it's not gonna. Work so
you have to find someone to at least bridge the
gap Until. May and, again maybe we're still not sure
What Reed shepherd is because he didn't play enough last,

(23:10):
year because he didn't break the rotation which is not
necessarily his fault because there are guys ahead of. Him
but what if he's, not like, Right Jalen, green what
if he's not the guy and he's not and they traded.
Him what If Reed shepherd's not the? Guy you can't
necessarily rely on him and A Men thompson who shouldn't
be a full time point guard to beat The thunder
in a playoff.

Speaker 5 (23:29):
Series, YEAH i mean those are all valid.

Speaker 4 (23:31):
POINTS i, mean especially About shepherd WHERE i, mean he
was blocked a little bit last year in terms of
the minutes that he could, get and he did see
some good things at, times but that's just, it like
you didn't see a huge amount of consistency from. It
AND i, mean it's gonna be interesting to, see you,
know how he has used in the. PRESEASON i, mean
AND i know that doesn't tell a, ton but LIKE i,
SAID i think that probably you do for the time,

(23:53):
being and they could use that exception as you, mentioned
but you're going to See Aaron holliday start as the
point and then maybe you get To January february that's
when he. May udoka finally pushes the button and, says
this is Read shepherd. Times that's maybe when you get
that and he could end up being really. Good that's
the reason they DRAFT i know they love. Him there

(24:13):
are teams that called and, said whatever it is you
want to do to improve your, team let's Get Read
shepherd back in a. Trade and they, said, no we're
not getting ready To Read. Shepherd we want to give
him some runway to turn into the player that we
believe he can. Be it's just quick as a second year.
Guy THE nba is, now especially for guys that are
going to be starter impact players at high level playoff.

(24:35):
Teams how many second year point guards can you name
that have had that level of impact for the best
four to six teams in the.

Speaker 5 (24:44):
League nothing comes to mind just. YET i, mean that's just.

Speaker 4 (24:49):
It that's why you know point guards a lot like,
Quarterback you find a good, one even if they're not you,
know the highest you know point guy in terms of.
OFFENSIVELY i mean, still it's everything else That Van vleet gave,
you and that's what The rockets are going to sorely.
Miss so we can continue that conversation again sevene three
two one two five seven. NINETY i do want to
get to the strows because LIKE i, said no time

(25:09):
like the. Present let's dive into that here as we're
getting going on A Tejano tuesday Edition Shawn Salisbury Show
Sports talk seven ninety.

Speaker 5 (25:20):
For The Shawn Salisbury show, CONTINUED.

Speaker 4 (25:26):
I think you said this in the first, segment or
you can't remember if you said it then or if
you said it all, fair but you, know there's there's no.
Motivation oh, no it was our last caller one that
just brought it. Up there's no motivation like, knowing all,
right you've got six, more like you know that you
at least have six more games this, season and if
you don't do well in the six, games well then

(25:46):
it's going to be an early locker clean out and
least a month of the season continuing where The astros
for the previous years have known no matter, what the
postseason awaits, them and for the long, time it, was,
well if we handle the business that we're supposed, to
then least we know that we're one of the final
two teams in The American. League the last couple of,

(26:08):
years that's not been the. Case last year it was the,
case and this year people don't necessarily have confidence that
they're going to be able to make a long run
in the postseason this, year although twenty, twenty THE covid,
year they did same. Deal get in as a wild,
card go up To minnesota when that, series go out
To la beat The a's and then nearly come back
from down three to zero to The rays to beat

(26:30):
them in THE.

Speaker 5 (26:30):
Lcs so it has been done.

Speaker 4 (26:33):
Before but with this team it's not even necessarily about the.
Pitching it's not even about anything else other than one,
thing the. Hitting and this is something that you talked
about a little bit yesterday where it was This a's
pitching staff where you don't Have Mason miller at the
end of the game. Anymore that if you're going to,
finally AND i emphasize that with underlines under finally with

(26:57):
a CAPITAL, f be the team that people hope that
you can be with this, lineup now's the time to do.
It you can hit This a's pitching. Staff you have
a lefty tonight In Jeffrey. Springs The astros typically do
for the most part pretty well against lefty. PITCHING a
lot of it is going to hinge. On Is Jeremy
pania healthy and he got hurt at a really bad

(27:17):
time of the year after he, Suck baratius gets hurt
And payya's out with the you know at the rib and.
Uh having both of those guys out crushed their offense
for a while Because pania was playing at AN mvp votes.
Level and he's come back and he has not played
at that, level but he's still been. Good and the
end of this, year you're gonna look at the numbers

(27:37):
and he's gonna be a five to win player and
the best player for.

Speaker 5 (27:40):
The astros this. Year but he crushes. Lefties you have
to have him in the.

Speaker 4 (27:45):
Lineup you have to get your guys that have not been,
hitting The Christian, walkers The Yaner diazz to. Contribute Maybe
Cam smith gets a start against a left he tonight
because you can't Play Jesus sanchez against. Lefties you probably
don't want to Show Zach cole in the infancy of
his career against. Lefties in a lefty lefty. Matchup you're

(28:05):
gonna Need Mauricio debon probably to do. Something you're going
to Need Jose Al tuve to step, up and you're
gonna Need Christian xavier to look a little bit better
than he. Has the good thing With javier right, now
the underlying numbers show that he has been pitching better
than the numbers, show and every start he goes out

(28:25):
he gets a little bit closer to The Christian javier
that we saw in twenty twenty, two where it was
basically six innings of one hit ball and nine strikeouts
and you're not gonna touch this. Guy he was a
dark horse cy young candidate going into twenty, three and
then we saw what happened injuries and just people seeing him.

Speaker 5 (28:45):
More this is.

Speaker 4 (28:46):
Winnable Luis severino hates pitching In West. Sacramento he's a
guy that you can get. To this is a, bullpen
like you, mentioned is missing its closer and is a
patchwork of random guys astros. Throwaway Michael kelly is in that,
bullpen apparently in high. School's Brady basso is in that.
Bullpen these are not world. Beaters these are guys that

(29:06):
you can, hit go out and do.

Speaker 5 (29:08):
It, Yep AND i mean that's just.

Speaker 4 (29:11):
It it's it's been right in front of them in
this entire, season and at times we've been very satisfied
with what we've seen out of the.

Speaker 5 (29:18):
Lineup but the you, know less than.

Speaker 4 (29:21):
Satisfying unsatisfactory results have followed this team for much of the.
Season and you Mentioned Christian. Javier interesting thing on him
THAT i think we want to get into here as
we close out six O'clock, Cower Chris gordy's going to join,
us by the way for his weekly visit nine O'clock
curtsey At Carbock.

Speaker 5 (29:37):
Brewing so we got that to look forward to a
little bit later.

Speaker 4 (29:39):
On but you want to get down on strows seb
one three two one two five seven ninety against someone
three two one two five seven. Ninety continuing the roll
along Here Sean Salisbury, Show Sports talk seven.

Speaker 1 (29:49):
Ninety you're.

Speaker 5 (29:51):
Back this is The Sean Salisbury. Show get back at.

Speaker 4 (29:54):
It they were going to announce, like, hey what their schedules,
are all of that kind of, Stuff but, yeah he
had that yesterday of, yeah, hey here's the every year
common opponent that you're going to be. Playing so you
get you get The horns And Sooners aggie's and Then
arkansas right. There so pretty good little draw for, them
which is. Good but the fact that we have to

(30:17):
do this to protect the rivalries is what has made
college football lose its.

Speaker 5 (30:23):
Charm to me over the past five.

Speaker 4 (30:26):
Years it's not the nil the kids getting, Paid, like that's, fine,
Right like you bring Up, Texas florida's coming, Up LIKE
i SAW Dj lagway has all these, ads was in
A gatorade.

Speaker 5 (30:34):
Commercial. Whatever that's.

Speaker 4 (30:35):
Great if you are a car dealership or a subway or,
whatever and you think that the best way for you
to get business is to pay the star quarterback or
An austin's, Case lamborghini Of austin had that deal With Bijeon.
Robinson and you think that somebody In, austin some tech
bro is going to buy A lambeau because they Saw

(30:56):
bijon in.

Speaker 5 (30:57):
One you should do. It that's, great give these kids the.

Speaker 4 (31:00):
Money that being, said what conference is anyone? In who
is the quarterback of anyone over the past few. Years
if you don't win the quarterback, battle you. Transfer you
don't win the running back, battle you. Transfer you're a
good player at a mid size, school even LIKE i
would Call university Of houston like a mid size college

(31:22):
football program like Aj hallsale uses an. Example good safety
comes out of, nowhere, like, hey we recruited this, guy he's. Good,
well some bigger School miami AND lsu and he ended
up going TO lsu is going to offer him more.
Money so now the mid size and smaller schools are
going to get pillaged by the bigger.

Speaker 5 (31:39):
Schools then everyone's going to change.

Speaker 4 (31:40):
Conferences and then if you're a quarterback and you don't
immediately win the starting, job or you get hurt and
someone usurps your or, whatever you now are the. Core
you're the quarterback In North carolina last, year and now
you're the quarterback At Louisiana lafayette and then you had
a phenomenal year and now you're back to the quarterback
At South. Carolina how are you supposed to follow this?
Sport and the rivalry thing is the, thing the biggest,

(32:01):
Thing and my alma mater is one of the biggest
defenders of. This missoo And kansas didn't play for years
Because missoo left to THE sec And kansas was all
upset and then missou, was you, know like, tough no
play each. Other texas And TEXAS a AND M last
YEAR i went to that game and it was. Awesome

(32:21):
why haven't you done this for a decade? Plus why
do we need these protected rivalries when this is a
regional sport that has now become a national. Sport BUT
i have a lot of friends In New York city
BECAUSE i grew up spending summer In. BROOKLYN i used
to try to convince my friends WHEN i was younger
to care about The, iowahawkeys.

Speaker 5 (32:40):
The most difficult thing in the.

Speaker 4 (32:41):
World these guys are, like let's Go, jets let's Go,
Giants And i'm over, here, like let's Go, Dallas, Clark
like who the hell Is Dallas. Clark you have all
these large cities In, america the la of the, world
The New, york The, boston's The, miami's although The hurricanes
are now Capturing. Miami they Don't chicago big Note dame fan.
BASE i would even say here like people for the most,

(33:02):
part LIKE i think if people like college football here
my previous, Stop, atlanta they love.

Speaker 5 (33:07):
It it's a little.

Speaker 4 (33:08):
Different but in these you, know five of the TEN dc,
Right like There's maryland, fans but like It's maryland in
half the biggest cities and population centers of The United
states Of. America they do not. Care and you are
now trying to take this regional sport where you, have you,
know don't give a piss about the tide and the
people that pour their life into, it and you're, trying,

(33:31):
yeah and you're trying to expand it to an audience
that doesn't care about your, sport and you are now
ruining the charm of the whole point the sport exists
and why people Tailgated Ole Miss, WELL i, mean it's
it's very. Much IT'S i would say that the strong
strongholds of college football are the southeast and pockets of The.

(33:51):
MIDWEST i, mean parts Of, michigan parts Of. Ohio aside from,
THAT i mean you could even in, say like a
state Like. Pennsylvania There's Penn state fans up, there but
for the most, part you get closer To philly And,
pittsburgh those people, are, oh it's all about The, eagles
it's all About. STEELERS i don't care About Penn. State
i'll watch them On, saturday but that's about. IT i,
mean it's kind of the same here where you, know

(34:12):
you have people who went To, Texas TEXAS a and
M TECH, tcu any of those schools and no care
and they'll. Watch but it's not as rabid as some
of those other places THAT i. MENTIONED i, mean you Go,
atlanta for, example you go on a college Football, saturday
every single place is, filled every single one and when
The dogs are, playing every single place and every single

(34:34):
person is glued to THE tv of what's happening in that.
Game so THERE'S i, mean it's it's a valid point
by you where it is very much, regionalized AND i
know that they are trying to nationalize. IT i, mean
and that's the thing too with like the College Football.
PLAYOFF i can tell you from experience of going to
The National championship out there IN, la it was basically all, right,

(34:55):
yeah the game is, here and you can see The
College Football playoff logo. Everywhere but for the most, part
you could go ask somebody there In Santa, monica, hey
do you know who's playing the?

Speaker 5 (35:03):
GAME i guarantee you they have no idea.

Speaker 4 (35:05):
Zero it's a corporate The championship and even The Super,
bowl it's a corporate. Event and if you put in
a city LIKE la whereas there for The lakers and
they are there for The, dodgers and then THE nfl,
happens and if you get a glimpse Of Snoop dogg
on the, sideline you're excited because you got a glimpse
Of Snoop dog on the. Sideline they don't care ABOUT,
Usc they don't care ABOUT. UCLA usc did a great
job twenty years ago With Pete carroll And Reggie bush

(35:28):
And Matt lion are capturing that. City didn't have AN
nfl team at the, time, Right SO i mean they
basically were THE nfl team and now they were paying
them like AN nfl. Team, yeah and they captured the
attention and it made people. Care now they have not
only ONE nfl, Team they stole The San DIEGO nfl,
team and they have TWO nfl teams in a beautiful new.

(35:48):
Stadium and The dodgers are, good and The lakers have
At Lebron james and Now Luka. Doncic so why would
you pay attention TO usc and ESPECIALLY ucla who had
to fire their. Coach it just and this is what
the people in the meetings are. GOING tv ratings are.
Great you know WHY tv ratings are great not Because.

(36:10):
La look at THE tv rating IN. La it's BECAUSE
i say it all the Time. Southeast but that's the. Thing,
like look at where the highest viewership totals. Are, Birmingham
university Of, Alabama Atlanta, Knoxville, Tennessee, Clemson, Columbus, ohio like
all of those places where they have really good college
football teams and not a ton of because LIKE i

(36:32):
can even tell you from my previous, stop is they
like The falcons. There they don't love, them and they've
been given plenty of reason to not love. Them so
when it comes down to, it when it's my, weekends
there's tons of people out there that Now i'll do
all my stuff On. Sunday, well wait a, minute The
falcons are, playing So i'll catch it at the. Half
what DO i? Care because it's also too they've not

(36:54):
done a good job of being able to merge the
fan bases for the longest time until they just you,
KNOW i forget who they took out Of georgia this,
year but for the longest, time they almost went out
of their way to not Draft georgia, players and it
was just, like you're missing a golden opportunity, here like
you could take one of their top guys from that
team that has a fan base already built into, them

(37:16):
and you could have them come to. You but then
you want to overthink it and try to show everybody
how much football you really. Know so we're gonna take
this guy out Of Montana, State, like what are we
doing at a certain. Point can you imagine If Todd
Gurley falcons or any of these Other Georgia Star lad,
Mcconkee Jordan Davis, Falcons Jordan, davis or if they had

(37:39):
a quarterback Of Matt stafford of The, falcons how much
that fan base would Lost Matt stafford of The. Falcons, yes,
NO i, mean AND i think in some ways, TOO
i do, appreciate like the way That Nick cassario has
handled the draft here because don't overthink.

Speaker 5 (37:56):
It take the guy from the major college.

Speaker 4 (37:58):
PROGRAM i always love, This oh, well THIS i really
showed at The Senior bowl out of you, KNOW i don't,
Know Montana tech or. Wherever and it's, like that's great
in the age of the transfer portal and, name image and.
Likeness if he was really that, great he'd be playing
At Washington state or At washington or somewhere else like.
That he wouldn't be playing At Montana. Tech so it's
just like it cracks me, up like whenever teams do,

(38:19):
that and there have been times here In houston where
the previous gms would do that and you're just LIKE
gms in, quotes, right BECAUSE i mean there were plural
lots of them ever Since Rick. Smith BUT i, mean
it's just it boggles my mind whenever teams do, That,
Like i'm just, like you have an easy win right,

(38:40):
there and if he doesn't work, out who? Cares you
got four years of people rooting for your team because
he was here and they rooted for him in.

Speaker 5 (38:47):
College they're trying to do The belichick.

Speaker 9 (38:49):
Thing.

Speaker 4 (38:49):
Right i'm standing in the rain In, Murfreesboro, tennessee looking
at a fourth round safety who can also play special
teams because that's The. Patriots. Yeah well The patriots way
Was Tom. Brady it's.

Speaker 5 (39:02):
FUNNY i had that conversation with someone last.

Speaker 4 (39:04):
Night all, right let's get back into the astros because
we Mentioned Christian javier and the tale of his season
kind of tells you what to expect.

Speaker 5 (39:13):
Tonight we'll we'll discuss that right.

Speaker 4 (39:15):
Here it is The Shawn Salisbury, Show Sports talk seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (39:19):
KD E HOUSTON atvhd Two, Houston iHeart radio station and
The Rocket Sports talk seven ninety your home for your
home teams.

Speaker 5 (39:32):
From The parsons that mention Next, Studios.

Speaker 9 (39:38):
Salisbury, Olsbury.

Speaker 1 (39:42):
Houston, okay let's do.

Speaker 2 (39:44):
This Sewan, SALISBURY usc truph longtime, Friend Shawn, Salisbury Dan MATTHEWS.

Speaker 5 (39:52):
Us this is The Seawan Salisbury. Show eight.

Speaker 4 (40:00):
O'clock astros on deck coming your way to lead you
up to stro's and a's From West. Sacramento Christian javier
Against Jeffrey springs and The texans off today from The Praxe.
Field gonna get The titans in town On sunday over AT,
nrg still trying to get their first win of the regular.

Speaker 5 (40:16):
Season fred Van.

Speaker 4 (40:17):
Vliet according to, reports torn acl in off season, workouts
likely going to miss the entire. SEASON i, KNOW i
Said texas And florida this week forgot off week for The,
horns and then they're gonna get back at it next.
Week it's gonna be that two thirty window Against. Florida
so how COULD i forget? It how COULD i not know? That,
see that's your point about college football is Like i'm

(40:39):
not as entrenched in it AS i used to, be,
because LIKE i, said WHERE i used to work like
that was usually one of your topic a's is what
happened with the football. Team that's about an hour and
a half from, you it's won a couple of national,
titles and who are they? Recruiting all of that kind of.
Stuff like somebody asked me a college football question once
AND i, said, brother if you had asked me that

(41:00):
about two or three years, AGO i could answer your. Question,
NOW i don't even know that that guy. Exists AND
i think THAT espn and how they cover the sport
and both this is both for college football and. Basketball
it's a little. Different back in the, day there used
to be, like like you do to remember a, guy,
right you used to know the guys he used to,
know not necessarily just The heisman, candidates but you would

(41:23):
know whoever the star linebacker or. WHATEVER i remember back
in the, DAY i hated this guy because as An iowa,
FAN i felt like he was a better line felt
like he was a better linebacker not getting the attention
because he played At iowa and this guy played At Ohio.
State you, know, Hoo i'm talking about Aj, hawk, Right,
Yeah Chad. GREENWAY i Remember Chad.

Speaker 5 (41:43):
Greenway.

Speaker 4 (41:44):
Yeah So Chad greenway was one of the best college
linebackers in the country as An All, american ended up
having a phenomenal career in THE nfl with The vikings
and twelve thirteen year old me is locked in On
Chad greenway is the best linebacker in the. Country AND
i don't think that's a unreasonable take if you can
look at the numbers and, everything and Like iowa was
really good from two and two to two thousand and.

(42:04):
Four Chack greenways is awesome. Player and when you turn
On College Game day every morning you wake up and
Watch College Game day and See Lee lee course will
put the head gear.

Speaker 5 (42:13):
On who are they talking? About A J? Hawk and
they would never shut up about A J?

Speaker 4 (42:18):
Hawk and how his you, know his mom or his
the girlfriend or was he Dating Brady quinn's sister or
something like that now? Married, yeah and she would wear
the Half Brady quinn half a j.

Speaker 5 (42:26):
Hok, yeah they played each other in The Fiesta. BOWL
i remember.

Speaker 4 (42:29):
That so think about, today twenty years. Later name a
college linebacker Wit? Weeks who Wit? WEEKS i don't know
who that. IS i, Mean i'm AN lsu. Guy so
he plays linebacker AT. Lsu do you think that the
casual fan in Say, iowa same deal With, Yeah, harold great,

(42:49):
Kid but like the casual college football fan that's not
their team can name a college linebacker or even have
the argument of my call college linebacker is better than
your college line. BACK i would even take it a
step further with something as simple as a, quarterback BECAUSE i,
mean it's now two years in a row That gordy

(43:09):
has done this exercise with. Me if he names a certain, Quarterback,
hey where is he playing?

Speaker 5 (43:13):
Now Oh, Man. Louisville, yeah you're.

Speaker 4 (43:16):
Right like you, know like it's one of those like
where you would think that a guy is going to
be in trench, somewhere is going to stay, there but
then they transfer out because they lose out on their,
jobs so then they go To illinois or somewhere like,
that and you're just, like, YEAH i would have never guessed.

Speaker 5 (43:30):
That like that's that's to your.

Speaker 4 (43:32):
POINT i, mean that's what college football is now is
it's unless you're really paying, attention you're kind of attached from.

Speaker 5 (43:38):
It there used to.

Speaker 4 (43:39):
Detached there used to be all of these guys that
you remember in college, basketball even right like The Kevin
pittsnaggles of the. World everyone Remembers Kevin, Pittsnaggle AND i
think in today's day and, age you see that guy
for a, week you forget about that, Guy like the
kid From mercer that helped Upset.

Speaker 5 (43:55):
DUKE i have no idea what his name. Is Kevin
cannavari is a good buddy of.

Speaker 4 (43:58):
Mine there you, go the kid From oakland with the
receiving hairline that shot the. THREES i jack. SOMETHING i
don't remember what his name is twenty years, ago and
maybe it was just BECAUSE i was a kid AND
i didn't have better things to.

Speaker 5 (44:09):
Do i'd remember that guy's. Name but it felt like
there were.

Speaker 4 (44:12):
Stars and when you'd Watch Sports center and you'd WATCH
espn throughout the, week those guys would get talked. About
and there it wasn't just like who's the one the
Arch manning, right and why is Arch manning popular because
his last name Is. Manning The texas quarterback who was
Not Arch, Manning Quin youwers the year before was not
getting that amount of discussion because and so it's all

(44:34):
about what's your last, name what's your draft? Status quin
yours is not a probably a first round, pick so
he wasn't getting the. Discussion and so now it feels
like you're learning everything is. Fragmented you're learning about six
guys the top whatever they're pretty much all quarterbacks except
the two receivers that are the stars That Jeremiah smith
and The Ryan. Williams and who do those guys play?
For Oh alabama In Ohio. State if you don't play

(44:56):
For alabama And Ohio state Or texas Or clemson or,
whatever we don't get care about, you, Right and they
used to there used to be more of an infrastructure
to where you the normal college football, fan even IF
lsu is your, team you would know Who Toby gerhart
or whatever is because like that guy's. Fun and it
just doesn't feel like that.

Speaker 5 (45:15):
Anymore, no it's.

Speaker 4 (45:17):
UNFORTUNATE i, MEAN i think college, basketball a big part
of it is the one and. Done AND i, mean you,
know for us, here we care about you of h
just because they're really good and they're one of the
outliers out, THERE i mean because their guys stay and
their guys are there for about two or three. Years
so it's kind of a little old school in that,
regard like for the most, part like you, Know shed
and guys like that that have played, there like that's

(45:39):
that doesn't, happen like somebody eventually Says i'm gonna go
To Kentucky i'm gonna go To. Kansas i'm gonna go
somewhere else Whereas Kelvin sampson's able to keep the guys,
there AND i mean so you get to kind of
grow with. Them Like Juwan, ROBERTS i, mean good college.
Player he's not gonna be anything at the, pros but
at least you're going to remember him from the free
throws and everything else that he made Against. Duke and
he was a guy that was in college for like six.

(46:01):
Years SO i, mean you, know it's it's a little bit,
different you, know for for, them but, STILL i mean
it's it's to your point that that's what that's what
the game is, now and IT'S i would say that
for that very reason, too is why the game's, popular
because the game itself, sucks like for the most, part

(46:21):
like U h is enjoyable to watch because they actually
play defense and they play basketball the way that people
say it's supposed to be. Played BUT i mean aside from,
THAT i mean you get to know certain guys and
they're not good offensive, players like for the most, part
younger basketball players. NOW i even asked this To Kelvin
samson ONCE i, go, like is jump shooting is not,

(46:43):
Taught AND i, mean and in certain, ways LIKE i
would agree that it probably isn't because Like Jalen, GREEN i,
mean you know where he had his offensive, struggles AND
i would say that a huge part of that is
he probably grew up as just being bigger and more
athletic than everybody. Else he, said why SHOULD i settle
for a jump shot WHEN i can just take these
guys to the rim and score that?

Speaker 5 (47:03):
Way?

Speaker 4 (47:03):
Yeah why AM i shooting at twenty eight foot three
When i'm more athletic than everybody else That i've ever
played against my whole life growing? Up and you're, RIGHT i,
mean college basketball is a clank. Fest houston leans into
it and they play the, defense they get out and,
run and the culture That Kelvin sampson has built there is,
incredible AND i, THINK i, mean they were so close

(47:24):
last year to win a national, title AND i think
it's eventually possibly going to happen here in the next few,
years but you, know with the, tournament you never know
what's going to. Happen they're a hard team to play
against in the tournament because of they just they grind
you down and they play defense and if you're a,
team like a fun team that wants to get out and.
Run that is the absolute last thing you want to.
See and if you're a fun team that wants to

(47:45):
get out and, run you do it by being more
athletic than the teams that you. Play and you're not
going to be more athletic Than, houston who is now
bringing in five star guys and still bringing back their.
Guys so they're a throwback to the, culture and, like
we're glad we have. Them but you go outside of the,
CITY i think you back in the, day you could

(48:06):
name A university Of houston, player like when they were,
decent name a. Guy now if you're you, know if
you're whatever fan from a different, city you don't know
their quarterback Is Connor, wigman.

Speaker 5 (48:16):
Right, NO i mean that's it's a fair.

Speaker 4 (48:18):
Point AND i mean at, least you, know when we're
paying close attention to, him we get To BUT i,
mean aside from, THAT i mean there's probably even people
here who are.

Speaker 5 (48:26):
Like, OH i thought he was AT a and m,
yeah like.

Speaker 4 (48:28):
THERE i, mean it's it's to the point THAT i
was bringing up just about the way that it is,
now and not only college, football but also college. Basketball all,
RIGHT i promise you we're gonna get To christian hobby.

Speaker 5 (48:38):
Here it's gonna. Happen but you could come on, now
you know how the show.

Speaker 4 (48:41):
Goes you know that we'll get onto something and it's
just you, know it feels, organic it feels.

Speaker 5 (48:46):
Good we just go with. It we have some fun with.

Speaker 4 (48:48):
It you, know there's there's no, restrictions there's no, strings
there's none of those things around. Here come, on we
know the. Rules there are no. Rules that's exactly the.
Point but, anyway we will get into the stakeout because
because if you think this job is, easy well somebody
that does it will tell you it's.

Speaker 5 (49:05):
Anything but we'll explain right.

Speaker 4 (49:07):

Speaker 2 (50:38):
Now The salisbury's, Takeout Salis burrief takeout On The Sean Salisbury.

Speaker 4 (50:45):
Show Teiano tuesday here on The Sean Salisbury, Show Sports
talk seven Ninety stros are going to be in A
West sacramento the night taking on the as the postseason
push starts. Now Christian Javier Can Jeffrey Springs astros on
deck starting at eight. O'clock Sean sharania reporting that The

(51:06):
rockets point Guard Fred Van vliet has a torny acl
from off season, workouts going to likely miss the. Season
and in college, Basketball Bruce pearl surprisingly announcing a retirement
At auburn and steps down as the. Coach his Son
stephen gonna take over the. Program totally qualified, Son. Steven that's.
It that's, it one hundred. Percent it's Like Richard, patino

(51:29):
any of THE i, MEAN i, mean in a way
you could think that it's kind of a case and
we'll get to stake. Out but in a way you
could almost say that it's a case study for how
it's gonna look here When Kellen samson takes. OVER i
would Give kellen quite a bit more credit Than Steven,
pearl WHO i just heard existed.

Speaker 5 (51:46):
Yesterday kellen is a big part of that.

Speaker 4 (51:50):
Program, Apparently Stephen pearl was doing like medical sales up
until like six seven years, ago and then decided he
wanted to go into the family business and become a
coach with his.

Speaker 5 (51:58):
Dad, bruce you want to get into the faily. Business
business isn't for. You i'm trying to work in the family.
Business that's not the way THAT i wanted. It, yeah
but it's the way That pop wanted. IT i, mean kid,
brother my kid, Brother.

Speaker 4 (52:12):
Michael, anyway well godfather too for you right? There all,
right speaking of, acting because you, know just did a
little method acting for you right. There daniel Da, Lewis
matthews over. Here But Taylor, kitsch we know. Him he
Was Tim riggans On Friday Night. Light it's been in
a lot of different, Things Sean, carter which he talked

(52:33):
about on a recent episode of. It he was talking
about that because it was how reviews can like absolutely
just like bring you down in the dumps and like
comments about you and like your performance. Everything and, yeah
he was just saying, that like people were less than
pleased with that, movie which you can understand. Why but

(52:55):
he was on The Joe Rogan show, podcast and he
Played Michael, murphy one of the one of the members
of the seal team that lost their life as part
Of Operation Red. Wings and of course the movie is
off of the book that our Own houston area Guy
Marcus latrell wrote about that operation and losing a lot

(53:17):
of the guys in his in his seal, team And
Michael murphy who's played By Taylor, kitsch was one of
the guys that lost his. Life as a matter of,
fact the only reason that they eventually got support was
because he went up to a highest point knowing that
he was probably going to be shot and, killed but
got on THE sat phone to try to get them

(53:38):
to send support to either extract them or at least
give them, support so then you know you still have
a way to try to get out of.

Speaker 5 (53:46):
There and he tragically lost his.

Speaker 4 (53:48):
Life, well So Marcus latrell was one of the technical
directors in the. Movie you, know of, course you've got
a bunch of, actors you've got to be able to
try to make them look the, part BECAUSE i, mean
there's nothing in those movies that if you know, something for,
example and you see it being portrayed on, screen and you're,
like that's not how this, Goes, like that's not how
any of this.

Speaker 5 (54:07):
Goes like if anybody in a.

Speaker 4 (54:09):
Movie tries to play a sports radio, host it's just
kind of like in a, SENSE i guess they kind
of got, it but like not, really you're, saying you're
not anything Like bulldog From. Fraser probably. Not, YEAH i
don't even Remember bulldog From. Fraser bulldock's. Great well you
need to Watch. FRASIER i did Watch, fraser just maybe
not close. Enough well, Anyway So ketch was on The

(54:30):
Joe Rogan experience podcast and the episode came out Last.
Thursday it's a good. EPISODE i suggest you go listen to.
It and he talked about How latrelle trying to get
them ready for this and finally once they went through enough,
training they, said all, right here's how this is going to.
Go you guys are going to be the seal team
and you're going to try to, Advance you're going to

(54:52):
try to do all of these different. Things me and
my other Former navy seals we're going to be the
taliban and we're going to ambush. You so of course
he's talking about like trying to go through. This they're
using semunition, rounds which are basically like live, rounds but
they're paint SO i mean it is kind of like. Paintball,
yeah AND i, mean you, know they're just trying to

(55:14):
be able to again look the parts of you, know
how you tactically go through. Things you, know if you
start taking, fire where do you go all of those different,
things and that it was going to allow for realistic
force on force And kitsch had talked about it and
said it went incredibly poorly because he's trying to direct

(55:34):
E Meal hirsh and like all of the other guys
like to be, like you, know LIKE i think like
with a. Meal he was like a, meal push like push,
forward go like you, know go over. Here and then
finally they get, ambushed and of course, afterwards you know
it's i mean luckily nobody, dies so then you, know
you come out of it and it's just, like all,
right here's where you guys went.

Speaker 5 (55:52):
Wrong, Yeah like.

Speaker 4 (55:53):
It's it's almost kind of like you know, football where they, say,
hey we're going live in, practice that's exactly what that.
Is but in this, CASE i would say that's pretty
much the scout team going up against the actual starters
and the starters letting you, know, like, yeah that's Why
i'm getting starting reps and you're not, actors are theater.
Kids so that would be funny to. See and like

(56:14):
you see all these things where the bad throws right
every time they do a sports movie and the quarterback's
arm just doesn't look like he knows how to throw
or they do in, baseball Like Kevin costner could actually
kind of, Play Charlie sheen could actually kind of play.

Speaker 5 (56:28):
What are you like?

Speaker 4 (56:28):
Throwing like Ninety Charlie sheen brought some, heat which doesn't necessarily. Surprise,
sure there's some substances that contributed to. That we're not
talking about, steroids tiger blood and donnasty and a, yeah
so at least later in. Life BUT i know the
story behind, that Right why he started saying That Brian
wilson the. Pitcher oh so he was a big fan

(56:49):
Of Brian, wilson and his buddy set up a call
with him And WILSON i think just thought, like you, know,
hey here's a guy that's kind of going through something in.
Life let me fire him. Up and he was just,
like we're, different. Man we got blood and The DONNAS
dna people don't. Know so as soon As Charlie sheen heard,
that when he was all bent out on cocaine and,
testosterone he, said all, Right i'm gonna start using. That

(57:11):
so to Get Charlie sheen to act, normal they had
him talk To Brian, wilson the famously insane.

Speaker 5 (57:18):
Closer.

Speaker 4 (57:21):
Yeah, yeah have you seen those of the fake quarterbacks
and like especially the bad, Movies and the guy like
had to come out years later and was, LIKE i
was on, set there was a camera five feet. Away
i'm not trying to break, anything SO i had to
short arm. It here's me on my culd a, sack
AND i can actually throw a ball like an. Adult,
WELL i mean you know That Adam sandler learned how

(57:42):
to throw a football because of the namesake of the, show, right,
oh in The Longest. Yard yeah that makes. Sense, Yeah
sean was what just Like Marcus latrell was for this
movie technical, Director, yeah that he was For, sandler and
he Taught sandler how to throw a. Football sanders a basketball.
Guy that's that's great that he had to learn some
good mechanics playing basketball in oversized shorts and golf, shirts

(58:03):
WHICH i that's the one Thing i've Told sean that
if he ever did set it up And sandman did join,
Us i'd ask him what's the deal with the basketball get?
Up LIKE i have to, know like why? Not why
not just go like a regular tank or just A
t shirt out? There LIKE i gotta, know like what's
the deal with the golf shirts out? There he feels
his best on the basketball court when he dresses Like Billie.
Eilish that makes him rain. Jumpers is, LIKE i feel

(58:30):
Like Billy eilish out. Here and Now i'm gonna start
drilling threes because Now i'm getting the mental picture of
boats side by side and you're.

Speaker 5 (58:38):
Not, yeah they have the. Same they can steal close for.

Speaker 4 (58:42):
ME i don't know how tall she, is but they
can still close for Each it's gonna start shilling up
In Timbaland's, yeah and cargo pants they probably have the.
Same like remember the two thousand and three Era syracuse,
logo the Big syracuse basketball. Shorts LIKE i guarantee they
both have that in their. Classe, yeah, yeah boy fashion back,
then we sure knew how to bring it.

Speaker 5 (59:03):
Right but, ANYWAY i just wanted pants are back.

Speaker 4 (59:06):
Though it's what it sounds, LIKE i, mean the Do
jinkos make their way back? SOMEDAY i could see. IT
i didn't Know jinko's, exist SO i was a little
too young For. Jinko's BUT i worked at a shoe
store and my boss at the shoe store put me Onto.
Jinko's i'd never seen them in my. Life jinko's are,
hilarious they really, are and at the time they were
thought to be. COOL i mean, again you, KNOW i

(59:26):
was in middle school with, it so it's, like you, know, oh,
yeah you, know you're not cool unless you wear. These
and THEN i go back and look And i'm just, like,
yeah that was a massive triple bogie right.

Speaker 5 (59:35):
There let's take that one.

Speaker 4 (59:37):
Back let's read tea and try to make sure that
we get out of here with nothing more than a.

Speaker 5 (59:42):
Bogie so the worst.

Speaker 4 (59:44):
Thing about, it, though is like how, Cool like how
cool you thought you. Were and the good thing about
it now is you have to look back and like
now it's. Entertaining, yeah now you can show people and be, like,
look how ridiculous this? One, yeah you live and you
LEARN i, mean pukachhell, necklaces you, Know hollister. Shirts now
YOU'RE i was a big full, yeah, BROTHER i was.
That i'll tell. You i'll tell you my go to.

(01:00:06):
IS i was a three necklace guy back WHEN i was.

Speaker 5 (01:00:08):
Playing it was a.

Speaker 4 (01:00:09):
Pukashell it was The James avery, cross, which of course
you know you gotta go with, that you gotta go
with a good, chain and then the fighting. Necklace, oh the.
Fight so fightings were didn't get. POPULAR i was probably
three years behind whatever else, was you, know going on
in the, city, right and so we didn't get fight
until like two thousand and, eight two thousand, nine which
would have been my junior senior year of high.

Speaker 5 (01:00:29):
School AND i refused to do.

Speaker 4 (01:00:30):
It and you also would usually if you played, baseball
had a teammate who would be able to build the
uh baseball leather, necklaces like with the seams and all of,
that WHERE i mean it was pretty simple where you
just use like fishing line as like the base for,
it and then of course you know the clasp and
all of that kind of. Stuff so probably you, know
at least one time in my LIFE i had one

(01:00:51):
of those because one of my buddies had made, one
AND i was, like, Yeah i'll. WORD i was always
very impressed with the people that, Could Like i'm not very,
handy but the people that can do that kind of.
Stuff WHEN i had one of my coaches teach me
how to tape a, bat and THEN i learned how
to do the little you, know you have the string
and you put it around and then you tape it
over and it has the little you, know runs through
like a snake and it looks. COOL i was fascinated by.
THAT i lost a friendship because of.

Speaker 5 (01:01:13):
That the bat.

Speaker 4 (01:01:14):
Taping, yeah because one of my buddies had BECAUSE i
like to have like the you, know good grip on,
it like the padding and all of, that and he
cut that off and then you, know just put tape on.
It AND i was, like this. Sucks LIKE i was,
LIKE i have no. Grip, Yeah AND i was, Like
i'm really annoyed with. You and so THEN i went
To Sporting goods stop right there Off West scott and

(01:01:34):
got it and tried to tape it myself and it
wasn't the.

Speaker 5 (01:01:36):
Same so you know who.

Speaker 4 (01:01:38):
You, Are, YEAH i mean you probably still over twenty
years later remember, that AND i still remember it And
i'm sharing it with the audience.

Speaker 5 (01:01:44):
Now SO i got the. Microphone you don't.

Speaker 4 (01:01:46):
Anyway all, right let's let's get back into the astros,

PRAYER i think is going to, Be, look we get.
It we've had, enough all. Right you get The astros
over the, weekend you get The texans where it was
bad and, boring it.

Speaker 5 (01:04:09):
Wasn't bad and bougie bad and, boring bad and.

Speaker 4 (01:04:11):
Boring you can say that about five times in a,
row just to you, know make sure that it sets
in for. You and, then of course The fred Van
Vliet news Yesterday Sean sharani reporting that The rockets guard
has torn his acl and did it during an offseason,
workout likely going to miss the entire. Season so you
see that come out, yesterday and like it kind of

(01:04:31):
reminds me of a story a buddy of mine once
told me when they were at the blackjack, table and you,
know his buddy had just lost his bank, roll and he, goes,
well it can't get any, worse and he stopped him
and he, goes, oh it can always get.

Speaker 5 (01:04:43):
Worse it can always absolutely get.

Speaker 4 (01:04:45):
Worse you can try to go back to THE atm
and think, like, hey you Know i'm gonna get them this.
Time the reason why those buildings look the way they,
do in your house looks the way it, does can
always get. Worse and we'll see what kind of horrors
await us. Today, luckily all all three of the major
pro teams here have gotten their thing. Right like The
astros got, swept The texans, Lost Van vliet gets. HURT

(01:05:10):
i LIKE i GUESS i brought up earlier, today The
SaberCats no longer exist for our rugby fans out. There
one they're, sad The dash. One somebody somebody pointed out
to The dash. ONE i don't think they're having a great.
Season The dash. ONE i don't think they're they. Are
it's been a few, YEARS i.

Speaker 5 (01:05:28):
Somebody i'm gonna.

Speaker 4 (01:05:28):
Be, HONEST i haven't paid close, attention but THEY i
think they've had a struggling few years to the point
where they. Signed we're gonna get into the dash here real.
Quick they signed the most expensive player in the. League
she was the highest paid, player and then she demanded
a trade in her first year got shipped.

Speaker 5 (01:05:43):
Out well there you. Go, see it's always right around the.

Speaker 4 (01:05:45):
CORNER i did see somebody yesterday said help Us Calvin.
Sampson it's, like don't you put that evil on? Us
don't you do? That, okay like let leave Leave kelvin
in the program. Alone all, Right dynamo won this weekend.
Too oh there you. Go SO i, mean at least
don't don't do. That by the, way don't because now
it's going to lead, to, oh you guys are talking.

(01:06:05):
Soccer there's nothing that annoys me more than, People oh.

Speaker 5 (01:06:09):
Do you all talk?

Speaker 4 (01:06:09):
Soccer what what AM i gonna? Say that was a
great cross by that guy that's really good on sports,
Radio LIKE i love. That, Somebody, well it's the world's
most popular. Sport, okay, fine but it's A tv. Sport is?
SPORT i don't, Know like sports radio in Like, madrid

(01:06:30):
are they locked in on what they gotta?

Speaker 9 (01:06:32):
Be?

Speaker 4 (01:06:33):
Right no soccer, chat you, know like like they're we
shouldn't do our, research like what is sports sports Radio?
Barcelona what what what moves the meter For manchester's sports.
Leader oh my, God Manchester Sports radio would be.

Speaker 5 (01:06:46):
Lit. NOW i kind of want to listen to what that's, like.

Speaker 4 (01:06:49):
Probably LIKE bbc or something like, that and they're talking
cricket and all of these other.

Speaker 5 (01:06:53):
Things you, know we have actual sports.

Speaker 4 (01:06:56):
HERE i don't, know, MAN i could see like the the,
people The british guys calling in and getting all rowdy about.
It my favorite is the you, know the The twitter
trend of The european mind cannot comprehend it and it's
always something college football related and there is and Maybe
i'll share it IF i can find it on. YouTube
there WAS i, think like The scottish guy years ago

(01:07:17):
that they showed him videos of like The Virginia tech,
Inner sandman entrance and Like clemson running.

Speaker 5 (01:07:24):
Down the hill and like all of these other.

Speaker 4 (01:07:26):
Like college football like entrances and like the crowds and
they were like that looks, crazy and it's just, like,
yeah that's that's what it.

Speaker 5 (01:07:34):
Is in certain.

Speaker 4 (01:07:35):
PARTS i think that soccer crowds in those parts of
the world, though are pretty. Good LIKE i went to
A fiorentina game WHEN i was In florence last year
and they were massive. Groups so, imagine AND i, know
like we do this in college football, too where there's
eighty shirtless guys and they're just waving the flag and
chanting and whatever the whole.

Speaker 5 (01:07:55):
Game so like they kind of have.

Speaker 4 (01:07:57):
It, YEAH i you got to give europe a little
credit on the soccer side in the big you, know
in the big, stadiums they don't know, ball they don't
know tail game and NO.

Speaker 5 (01:08:06):
Sec, Championship, no, No. Paul they ain't played.

Speaker 4 (01:08:09):
Nobody they ain't played the todd they ain't Played Mississippi.
STATE i, mean, heck you, know you could even lose
To Mike gundy you In Oklahoma. State Fior tina has
never once Played. Auburn they never once made it To,
atlanta not. Once so, yeah you, know LIKE i, said
The european mind just cannot. Comprehend, anyway we're hoping that

(01:08:31):
The astros can comprehend making it to the. Postseason this
guy might unlock the door to get to that. Point
we'll talk about it here as we. Continue it is
A Sean salisbury, show also in the eight O'clock now
we're gonna get into Some texans And Demiko, ryans a
couple of interesting things he said yesterday THAT i definitely
do want to get. Into so we'll do that all right.
Here it is A Sean salisbury, Show Sports talk seven.

Speaker 7 (01:08:53):
Ninety, HEY Dnm leasing just delivered a truck to a
customer who had listened to DN m for more than
twenty five. Years think about, that and he'd been hearing
these commercials, forever right for, decades.

Speaker 5 (01:09:02):
He believed leasing was just renting a.

Speaker 7 (01:09:04):
CAR i put in air, quotes something you only did
if you couldn't afford to. Buy and who hasn't been,
there right. Guys BUT Dnm leasing's here to change. That
that changed when the dealership offered him an eighty four month.
Loan he knew he'd trade the truck in in a few,
years and he knew he'd end up well upside down
again owing more than it was. Worth, well that's when

(01:09:25):
he remembered THE dnm. Commercials ever seen A texas title
and when you trade in a long finance, contract the
only thing you own is negative. Equity those, quotes so
he CALLED dnm leasing showed him is that leasing isn't
about what you can. Afford it's simply the smarter way
most people pay for their. Vehicles smarter see what smarter
does for, You AND dnm leasing is. Smart leasing isn't.

(01:09:48):
Renting let me say it, Again leasing isn't, renting it's.
Smarter who doesn't want? Smarter harder doesn't always. Work smarter,
does and especially when it puts money in your pocket
and makes it easier for you at the, beginning the,
middle and the. End dial seven to, one three two
nine zero one thousand seven one three two nine zero one,
thousand or visit us at DN.

Speaker 5 (01:10:10):
M it's DN M, leasing.

Speaker 7 (01:10:12):
Dmauto leasing dot, com dmauto leasing dot. Com they continue
to win awards and there's a reason why DN m
it's dmauto leasing Dot.

Speaker 5 (01:10:21):
Com this is The Sean salisbury show. Sales that's, beautiful,
Well Shan.

Speaker 4 (01:10:30):
Sharania he delivered yesterday on that very promise and telling
us That fred Van vliet offseason workout Torn acl likely
done up for this. Season other than, THAT i mean
The astro still have a chance to make the postseason
And Christian hobbier is a huge part of them possibly
being able to get into the postseason as he's going
to make the start.

Speaker 5 (01:10:50):
Tonight last two starts have been really.

Speaker 4 (01:10:52):
GOOD i would say three out of his last four
have been really good For hobber and uh the times
before now he did take a loss At toronto against The,
jays but he does get the win against The rangers
the last time out six innings out of him four,
strikeouts only walks.

Speaker 5 (01:11:10):
One and that's the thing THAT.

Speaker 4 (01:11:12):
I look at With Christian javier is you can pretty
much tell from the beginning how is his night going to.
Be if the walks are, there it's going to be
a short. Outing we saw it Against baltimore In august
where he walks trying to remember how many he walked
in that, one walked four and only went two innings
in that, one walked three against The angels and went

(01:11:33):
six innings in that, start but still takes a no.
Decision and then a loss to The yankees where he
walked three in that. One but then the last time
a couple of times out six innings out of both of,
them only one walk in each of. Them so When
javier's throwing, strikes things are going to want to go.
Good he starts putting guys on with the free. Passes
Then Nick kurtz comes to the, plate and that's not

(01:11:53):
what you want to. See it's hard to get your
command back quickly coming Off Tommy. Johnson that is What i've,
heard is the last thing that Comes you can get
your velocity back for the most, part and his velocity
is up from where it was before he went To
tommy john surgery is down from where he was in
twenty twenty two when he had that incredible. Year but

(01:12:14):
command is the last thing that gets, there just for whatever,
reason the fact that you have a foreign part of
your body in the other part of your, body right
like they take the tendon out of your leg and
put it in your, elbow and it just it takes
a little, bit and the fact that it's getting a
little better is good progress because command is the last
thing to come. Back his strikeout, rate that's what you

(01:12:37):
hope comes, back because he has been a different pitcher
since twenty twenty. Two if you go back and you
look at what he was in twenty twenty, one when
he was a part time starter and a part time
multi inning, weapon he was striking out eleven twelve guys per.
Nine his year where he was a starter in twenty twenty,
two the year he had a two five to FOUR
ra and is a you, know should have Gotten Cy young.

(01:12:58):
Votes he was striking out twelve guys per nine and
the incredible playoff run he. Had and then the next
year he comes, in he gets his contract less than
nine per. Nine last year he got hurt seven per.
Nine this year it's it's eight point. Four so he's
not striking guys out as. Much he's in fact striking
guys out at a third of the rate that he

(01:13:18):
did in twenty twenty. Two and that is the difference
between Peak cavier AND i think the answer the result
is somewhere in the middle of.

Speaker 5 (01:13:25):
That the good thing is four to forty FIVE.

Speaker 4 (01:13:28):
Ra right now he's got a three eighty NINE Fip
Fielding independent E ra and a three forty ONE xra EXPECTED.

Speaker 5 (01:13:35):
Era what that means is he has looked worse than he.

Speaker 4 (01:13:38):
Should regression just like it did in a negative way
To Jason alexander should come in a positive way To Christian.
Havier facing a lineup that has a few boppers but is,
gettable you gotta hope that there is a good start
in him.

Speaker 5 (01:13:53):
Tonight you definitely. Do AND i think if nothing.

Speaker 4 (01:13:56):
ELSE i, mean it could possibly give you confidence where
you had the. POSTSEASON i mean we've been wondering about.
FROMBER i mean it's kind of to the point that's
something else we'll talk about a little bit later on the.
Show BUT i mean you can't count on him, whatsoever
not at. All like it's not even a at this,
point hopefully he finds. Something it's now just a don't

(01:14:17):
completely lose it for, Us and that's what he's been.
Doing that's the problem is it's not just losing these,
starts it's completely letting it just go off the rails
and go crazy WHERE i think it's finally Now Joe
spotta looking at, it and After sunday With Jason alexander
that has a creeping into your. Mind we are, Like
i've Got Hunter brown and then silence tells you all

(01:14:38):
you need to know because he doesn't have anybody. Else,
yeah there's a chance that if you and again you
have to win and set up and have the time
or whatever THAT i want to See Christian hobber maybe
in a game, too obviously depending on these next few.
Performances but he's been far more consistent than Fromber valdez
which is crazy because fromber and this is part of
the reason he's going to get paid what he's going
to get paid in free. Agency he just doesn't get.

(01:15:00):
Hurt so he has been, pitching but he's been going
four five, innings not because he's getting, tired but because
he's getting lit.

Speaker 5 (01:15:08):
Up and now you can Trust javier.

Speaker 4 (01:15:11):
More AND i Know alexander's been good up until his last,
start but he cannot you can't start him in the game.
Too so right Now javier is kind of trying to
push for that role Behind Hunter. Brown we Know Hunter
brown is now your unquestioned Days Farmer valdez has done
everything to you road the confidence that he has built
up over the years and erode the money making ability

(01:15:31):
that he has built up over the. Years there's a
chance he might have lost one hundred million dollars in
his last two, months which is insane to think about
because the target for him is The Max freed contract
at eight two, eighteen AND i do not think there
is a team that is even considering giving him eight
years or seven.

Speaker 5 (01:15:47):
Years and the.

Speaker 4 (01:15:48):
Cross up, TOO i, mean it's something. Else we've heard
the report From Bob. Nightingale that's not helping him, Either
SO i guess that's for him to worry. About all,
Right so we'll pick The astros conversation back, up because
do you want to get in of The? Texans tmiko
ryans a little? Optimistic does he have reason to be?
Optimistic we'll talk about THE o and Three texans right
here as we get into the eight o'clock the Hour

(01:16:09):

Matthews this is The Sean Salisbury, Show.

Speaker 5 (01:18:27):
Tano. Tuesday less than an.

Speaker 4 (01:18:30):
Hour Chris gordy gonna join us courtesy At Carbach brewing
for his weekly. Visit we'll talk a lot of, strows
which we've been doing here on the show. Today postseason
push starts. Tonight you get The a's In West. Sacramento
gonna Be Christian hobber Against Jeffrey. Springs astros on deck
coming your way at Eight, texans who we're going to
talk about right. Now off today from the practice, field

(01:18:52):
going to get The Titans sunday AT, nrg still trying
to get their first win of the regular. Season did
you Hear Demiko ryans? YESTERDAY i did Hear Tamika. Ryans,
yes we are close saying we're his. Words we are,
close and it's just like hear, that And i'm, Like, okay,
LOOK i understand. OPTIMISM i understand you know you have

(01:19:14):
a good. Team all of.

Speaker 5 (01:19:15):
That that's.

Speaker 4 (01:19:16):
Fine you know you should believe in your team, Offensively
what shows you with this team that you're?

Speaker 5 (01:19:23):
Close? Nothing?

Speaker 4 (01:19:25):
Nothing there's you Have Nico collins who is largely playing
well aside from that, fumble and then you have a
quarterback IN. Cj stroud who we know the ceiling and
we know that the ceiling is, high but he has
been skittish behind an offensive line that is now in
the second straight year of being an absolute, disaster and

(01:19:47):
it has not gotten. Better and they are by no
means close in any part of the. Game and whatever
run game that you believed you were gonna have is
now on the shoulders of an Old NICK i want
to say. Old he's not like old, life you know
WHAT i? Mean Nick chubb potentially rookie wood he marks
WHO i could see starting and get some real carries
here over the next few, weeks Because Joe mixon is

(01:20:09):
out at least through this week and probably longer given
the mysterious nature of the foot. Ankle whatever is going
on With Joe mixon thing now and that's the THING i,
mean especially too When Nicko sario did talk with the
media and he was asked directly, like all, right at
the end of this four, WEEKS i don't, know you,

(01:20:30):
know just got gotta kind, of you, know see how
this all plays. Out and it's, Like, okay that's not
really sounding encouraging that he's going to.

Speaker 5 (01:20:36):
Be LIKE i at this point.

Speaker 4 (01:20:39):
Am very very pessimistic that we're going to See Joe
mixon at all this. Season LIKE i think that whatever
this is because then think about. It, okay let's just
say that if he is able to start practicing next,
week you probably need to at least give him about
a month of work to be able to try to

(01:21:00):
build back up and try to be able to be
in shape to be able to. Go so then halfway
through the season is what we're talking, about finally Seeing Joe. Mixon,
GO i don't see. It which at that, point what
what if you're already out of? It, Right like we
look at the schedule this, week they gotta, win, right
they should. Win if a rookie quarterback The titans are not,
good you should be able to beat The. Titans the

(01:21:22):
thing that AND i would do this IF i was
in charge of pr for The, texans because you have
A Chiefs ravens game this, week and one of those
teams two of the best teams in THE. Afc chiefs
have won three of the last Few Super. Bowls The
ravens have been destroying The texans every time they play,
out and one of those teams and so of The,

(01:21:42):
chiefs really uh will be own one to three and The,
texans if they win against The, titans will be one and.
THREE i knew where you were, going AND i was,
LIKE i was, like don't say it because it's not even. Comparable,
No but if you are Advising Demico ryans on the
message in the, narrative that's WHAT i would tell him to.
Say from a team perspective, Is, hey we're one and,

(01:22:04):
three so are The chiefs and Or, Ravens and sometimes
you have a tough start to the, year and we
are gonna work toward, it and there are other good,
teams and we know we're a good, team and there
are other good teams who are having a struggling start
to the, year and we believe it we can turn,
around just like they believe they can turn. Around, Okay
so it's not even gonna have to come from The
texans pr. Staff it's gonna come from somebody that is

(01:22:26):
going to pose it as a question To Tamiko ryans On,
monday but it's really going to be a, statement and it's,
like you don't work for the, team, Man, like what
are you? DOING i think that's the narrative that they
go with if they, win AND i am fully expecting
them to beat The. Titans that being, said if you
somehow lose this, game because somehow they lost The titans last,

(01:22:46):
year and this was a much better looking lost to The,
jaguars who tried, everything AS i even mentioned in my video,
yesterday pretty much telling, you, Hey Trevor lawrence is, terrible
our receivers are dropping.

Speaker 5 (01:22:57):
Passes why don't you guys take the?

Speaker 4 (01:22:59):
Game it's it's all yours, yep AND Cj stroud and
the offense, said, yeah that's that's. Cute Nico, Collins oh,
hey you, know, hey it's my.

Speaker 9 (01:23:08):
Bad.

Speaker 4 (01:23:08):
Guys we can tell that it was you're bad because
you fumbled in the red. Zone and that's the second
time in the last three weeks that somebody's done.

Speaker 5 (01:23:15):
That so we get.

Speaker 4 (01:23:16):
It we know three turnovers in the fourth, quarter lost
to a team you should have beat a team that
was playing horrible for most of the, game and then
Somehow Trevor, lawrence who is, bad turns it on and
gets a big completion To Brian Thomas, junior who has
been playing bad throughout this, year and then they get it.

Speaker 5 (01:23:32):
Done if you cannot beat The, titans.

Speaker 4 (01:23:36):
Like i'm ready at ozh to, Four i'm ready to
call it that you're gonna go six and eleven or,
whatever maybe right if then you're gonna have to go
six and seven from that point, on And i'm not
sure that's even if you were if you were zero and,
four let's just say to get to ten wins in
order to win this, division then you've got to go
ten and three to the rest of the. Way and

(01:23:57):
with this, offense, No i'm not seeing. It you have
to win this week or basically the season's. OVER i
think they can win this. Week, again you have a
rookie quarterback and a bad, team AND i think the
narrative after AND i am fully predicting A texans win, Is,
hey The ravens Or chiefs are one to, Three we're
not the only GOOD afc team that is going through

(01:24:18):
a tough stretch of the season early in the, year et,
cetera et. Cetera, well one of them Has Patrick, mahomes
the other one Has Lamar, jackson and they Have Derrick
henry and they Have Zave flowers and they have a
probably just as good a defense as you. DO i,
mean The chiefs offensively are probably a little bit more
in line with, you because once you Paid Patrick, mahomes

(01:24:39):
then you've got a draft Better and then you've got
to also make sure that one of your guys that's
going to be accounted on weapon doesn't get suspended for reckless. Driving,
yeah they're Missing Rashi. Rice they're missings that you're worthy for,
injury who had his own stuff in the. Offseason And
Travis kelcey is a shell of who he used to.
Be Travis kelsey looks really. Bad Travis kelsey looks, old

(01:24:59):
he looks. Slow SO i think that if they won
The Super bowl last, year he probably. Retires but because they,
didn't he feels like he's got to go back and
try to get one. More and knowing That Patrick mahomes
is your, quarterback you always have a. Chance and then you've,
got you, know him And Andy reid getting after each
other on the, sidelines Where Andy reid is kind of
doing like the shoulder bumped to, him like being, like you, know,

(01:25:19):
hey you Know i've been doing, This i've been.

Speaker 5 (01:25:22):
Here we're not doing this.

Speaker 4 (01:25:23):
Anymore, yeah exactly Where Andy reid was, like it's it's
not even worth, it all, RIGHT i Paraphrased Demiko. Ryans,
now let's hear From Demico ryans about as he, said being.

Speaker 10 (01:25:34):
Close, no it's not encouraging it being. Close we want
to win. Games it's not about being.

Speaker 5 (01:25:40):
Close just that's just stating in the.

Speaker 10 (01:25:42):
FACTS i staying obviously of how the three games have played.

Speaker 5 (01:25:45):
Out where, though how those.

Speaker 10 (01:25:47):
Games have happened for. Us we're not here to just be.
Close we're here to win the football.

Speaker 4 (01:25:52):
Game all finding Good AND i agree with everything he
said right. There and that's the. Thing there are no moral.
Victories THE nfl is the. Ultimate just like we talk
about with The. Astros, oh well that win last night
looked like this doesn't.

Speaker 5 (01:26:03):
Matter they. WON i don't care you won the.

Speaker 4 (01:26:06):
Game there is no playoff, committee there is no, rankings
there's NO, ap there's no coaches, poll there's none of those.
Things you don't have to worry about any of that.
Stuff do you? Win, okay, fine are you better than
the team that is going for the division with? You
there you, go that's all that. Matters so, like, yes
they have lost all three games by one, score and
that does matter because we mentioned it to his first

(01:26:28):
season they won those games like that was something that
encouraged you about that team that you're, like if they're
doing this when they're, young they're going to be able
to build on. This and somewhere along the way offensive
line they lost that and that's the offensive line thing
is On Nick. Asario they're not forcing as many turnovers
as they have the past couple of. Years and for
a defense that was billed to be for a secondary

(01:26:50):
that beat their chest all training camp about how we're
gonna be the best secondary in the. League you got
to pick From Jalen petrie and then WHAT i, Know
Derek stingley locked Up Mike evans the week. Before they're.
Good they have good, players so do. It so play
the way that you, can so force. Turnovers they hit.
HARD i like the way that they fly around in are,
physical AND i Like Daneil, hunter AND i Like Will.

(01:27:11):
ANDERSON i don't necessarily like the interior. LINE i don't
necessarily love the. Linebackers but the secondary is getting beat
at the end of the game when they're not supposed
to get, beat and they're not getting turnovers against quarterbacks
that you should be able to get turnovers. With Baker
mayfield is a. Gunslinger Trevor lawrence is. Terrible how are
you not turning these guys? Over well In Baker mayfield

(01:27:34):
also takes no you know, What, yeah he said.

Speaker 5 (01:27:37):
It he's a. Gunslinger.

Speaker 4 (01:27:38):
Though mayfield can turn the ball, over AND i agree
with like when he'll make a irrational confidence throw BECAUSE
i like quarterbacks like. That but he's a guy you
can turn over the swear jar over there In. Tampa
it's getting quite a bit of dollar bills put in
there From Baker mayfield and Then Todd bowles, Too but
well they're three and zer and you're ower and. Three

(01:27:59):
so that's the way the season has started. Off you
Mentioned Nick cassio because him And Tamiko rans they're pretty
interlocked in terms of how this team has looked At
what IF i owe one of them an apology And
i'll explain that right. Here as we get into the
eight o'clock hour on A Tejano, tuesday you want to
weigh in on the textans someone three two one two
five seven ninety against someone three two one two five

(01:28:20):
seven ninety will Continue Sean Salisbury, Show Sports talk seven.

the world would somebody who's never used lasik or never
been to the eye doctor for something, Important how in
the world would would they be able to speak on?

Here you don't have to travel out of state to
go get The lasik procedure guy that you want to
get it done right in eye care.

Speaker 5 (01:29:14):

stress because there always is when you're talking about your.

the way he'd treat his own kid's. Eyes isn't that
a nice nice bonus we? Get and then the recovery's,
quick you're not on the table, long and it's not.
Invasive all those, things plus you can work out your payment.
Plan get it done right with Doctor Jeff witzeit because
your eyes are, important as you well, know and he's

(01:29:42):
going to make sure you understand just how comfortable you can.
Be and that's a good. Thing he's the best in
the business And i'm. GRATEFUL i am a. Patient it's
seven one three three sixty five ninety seven nine nine

Speaker 3 (01:30:10):
Show continues most definitely On Sports talk.

Speaker 4 (01:30:14):
Seven ninety seven one three two one two, five seven
ninety and you, KNOW i saw this come Across twitter
Yesterday Jordan, PUNN i guess is the guy's? Name texans underscore,
thoughts pointing out the offseason HighRes and yesterday and even
On twitter On, SUNDAY i had, SAID i gotta be,

(01:30:35):
Honest my confidence In dimiko is kind of shaken a little.
Bit where you had two massive hires to make this.
Offseason when we came out of last, Season, ari every
single one of us said you've got to be able
to make a change at offensive, line that's first and.
Foremost And Chris, strasser who was going to buy all
likelihood retire, anyway that he was somebody that you looked

(01:30:55):
at and, said can't be here like just, this this
group is not.

Speaker 5 (01:30:59):
Working you've got to move. On so then what's your solution.

Speaker 4 (01:31:02):
Promote his Assistant Cole, popovitch who by the, way was
with The patriots from twenty sixteen to twenty. Twenty and
all the underlying parts of all of this Is Nick,
assio of, course was with The patriots from twenty twenty
one to twenty twenty and then you factor In Nick,
kayley who had been there from twenty fifteen to twenty twenty,
two and his point at the end of. It after

(01:31:24):
you know the caption on top of three photos Of
cassio wearing A patriots pull over and Then popovich and
also Of kaylee on, it you can't convince me these
Were demiko's. Hires i'm in line with that because THAT'S i,
mean and we knew the, background and we knew all of,
that AND i, mean he is the head, coach SO

(01:31:45):
i mean he probably does sign off on it at
a certain. Point but at the same time though, TOO i,
mean this is your job that's on the. Line Nick
assio more than likely will still be here for how
he's put together a. Team and, finally if it comes
down to a power, struggle even as much as everybody
in the building Loves tomko and the fan base all of,
that the head coach is the one who usually goes.

Speaker 5 (01:32:05):
First it's not THE. Gm you can read.

Speaker 4 (01:32:08):
Between the lines and see that these are the Ex patriots,
guys if they were Ex niners guys Or Shanahan tree or,
whatever then you can start to see The demiico. BLUEPRINTS
i Think that's how they tried to couch it With
kaylee because more than, anything the narrative around him, was,
WELL i, mean the hands Of sean McVay on. Him

(01:32:30):
so he's going to Be sean McVay. Here he's not
Been sean. McVay so that is a huge reason for.
It AND i agree with What jordan shared right. There
this Is Nick. Cassario this is all, Him this is
every single bit of. Him, no, no, no we have
a chance to get this. Guy we're gonna get this.
Guy and it's just like number, one what's the? Rush number? Two,

(01:32:54):
like you just went away from a guy that had
no play calling. Experience so then your solution is somebody,
that oh, man you KNOW i was around him in the.
BUILDING i know. Him this guy's a star in the.
Making go let him be a star in the making
with The Tennessee. Titans go let him be a star
in the making with The Jacksonville jaguars or whoever else
out there Which. Jacksonville Liam cohen's calling the. Plays we know,

(01:33:15):
that but let him go cut his teeth somewhere. Else
bring in somebody who has. Experienced you have a third
year quarterback who just went through a rough second season
in rough and relative, terms just because it wasn't as
good as his first. Season so then your solution is
to pair him with even more. Inexperience bad. PLAN i

(01:33:36):
think that the team And Nick casario and just the
general vibe around The, texans these three losses notwithstanding or
almost under selling how desirable it is to coach for
The texans or play for The. TEXANS i think that
it's changed because back, then back, then it Was bill, O'Brien,

(01:34:02):
right and so it's All Patriots. South you go Get Nick,
asario and you you keep The Patriots south vibe. Going
and it still feels like these hires And demiko was
a hot, name but he's still a rookie head, coach
And Bobby slowak was a rookie play, caller And Nick
kayley is a rookie play. Caller and you Got popovich

(01:34:23):
who was a first time you, know full time off
that you promoted, him and it just feels like they're
making these hires based on the narrative That, houston The
texans are not a desirable place to. Go you mentioned,
here go cut your teeth with The. Titans The titans.
Suck go cut your. Teeth, there go cut your teeth
with The. Jaguars they play In london four times a.
Year They jets for all we. Care but, YEAH i
think that you're sort OF i think that they're sort

(01:34:45):
of putting him on the same level as those. Teams
The texans are the team you go and cut your teeth,
with and then you go to a real, team and
now they're a little bit beyond. That you're you have a,
quarterback conceivably you have a. Quarterback you are one of
the top FOUR afc teams the past two. Years it's The,
bills it's The, Ravens it's The, chiefs and then it's you.

(01:35:06):
Guys so why do you keep getting in these first
time whatever these young you, know The ravens aren't doing,
that The chiefs aren't doing, That The bills aren't doing.
That right, Now bills came, back Got, Brady they Fired
kendorsey real, quick Got Joe. Brady they have McDermott coach
At harbaugh's been there. Forever Andy reid Is Andy. Reid

(01:35:26):
he keeps bringing in these experienced. People so you have
a rookie head. Coach you have a place THAT i
believe is now desirable to be at to. Coach you
have a, quarterback you have a, Defense you have at
least a star wide receiver before injury. Mysterious you had
a solid running back In Joe. Mixon you don't have
an offensive line Because Nick asario is bad at drafting

(01:35:46):
offensive line in the way That Bill belichick was bad
at drafting wide. Receivers patriots always find some sort of blind, spot,
right and instead of using the leverage that you have of,
hey we're an up and coming hot team in a
city that like to live. In people after they retire
still live In. HOUSTON nfl players live In. Houston how
many guys wives are like randomly from. Here people like

(01:36:09):
to live, here and they're still kind of treating it
as if like come here and cut your teeth and
then you'll go off to The, niners or you go
off to a sex, year or you.

Speaker 5 (01:36:17):
Go get a head coaching.

Speaker 4 (01:36:18):
Job now all of, THOSE i, mean it's it's wrought with,
overthoughts is REALLY i think is kind of the underlying issue,
here where it's, you to your, point you have a desirable,
situation like you brought Up baltimore for, example what did
they do to finally try to take their offense to
the next. Level you went and got a guy that
just led a college program to two straight national titles

(01:36:39):
and took a walk on quarterback and made him into
a pro quarterback and helped them win said national. Title
and that team has not had the same offensive production
since he walked out the. Door so that was something
that you could have possibly, done and yet you decide
to basically just go through a recycling, process and you're
getting worse results than you even had last. Year people

(01:37:00):
would kill For Bobby slowick right. Now kill motion play.
ACTION i was reading something. Yesterday we'll have to check the.
Numbers this was from a fantasy. Lens but they drop
their rate of play. Action there's something like nineteenth and
now they're. Last and then they dropped their rate of
motion and they were eighteenth or, whatever and now they're twenty.
Sixth i'll have to check the exact. Numbers but you

(01:37:21):
have less motion and less play. Action what do we
hear all training camp? Emotion they's gonna be more. Emotion
check with, me is all of? That why is there less?

Speaker 5 (01:37:29):
Motion it's just it's it's.

Speaker 4 (01:37:32):
AGAIN i, mean you went out there for what you
thought was going BECAUSE i think there's a little bit
of arrogance to this. Too, oh we find guys around.
HERE i don't give a damn about finding. SOMEONE i
give a damn about finding somebody that is able to
do the. Job and at, least if it's a, retread
at LEAST i know that guy can call plays in this.

Speaker 5 (01:37:52):
League that, guy through three games has shown you he.

Speaker 4 (01:37:54):
Cannot it's been much worse THAN i think anyone could have.
Thought the whole point Of Nick cayley is to stop
the stall That Bobby slowick brought in as a first
year play caller who was probably just not super ready
to develop like. That did you see That dimico started

(01:38:14):
to get a little frustrated On sunday a little. Bit,
yeah the camera caught him yelling over and people thought
he was yelling at A. Oc, well he talked about that.
Yesterday we'll let you hear from The texans head coach
as we continue. Here it is The Shawn Salisbury show
on A Tejano. Tuesday you want to join us seven
one three two one two five seven ninety against seven
one three two one two five seven.

Speaker 5 (01:38:34):
Ninety it Is Sports talk seven.

Speaker 7 (01:38:36):
Ninety, HEY dnm leasing just delivered a truck to a
customer who had listened TO dnm for more than twenty five.
Years think about, that and he'd been hearing these commercials,
forever right for, decades he believed leasing was just renting a.
CAR i put in air, quotes something you only did
if you couldn't afford to. Buy and who hasn't been, there, right.
Guys BUT Dnm leasing's here to change. That that changed

(01:38:56):
when the dealership offered him an eighty four month. Loan
he knew he'd trade the truck in in a few,
years and he knew he'd end up well upside down,
again owing more than it was. Worth, well that's when
he remembered THE dnm. Commercials ever seen A texas?

Speaker 5 (01:39:11):
Title?

Speaker 7 (01:39:12):
Uh and when you trade in a long finance, contract
the only thing you own is negative. Equity those, quotes
so he CALLED dnm, leasing showed him is that leasing
isn't about what you can. Afford it's simply the smarter
way most people pay for their. Vehicles. Smarter see what
smarter does for? You AND dnm leasing is. Smart leasing isn't.
Renting let me say it, Again leasing isn't, renting it's.

(01:39:35):
Smarter who doesn't want. Smarter harder doesn't always. Work smarter,
does and especially when it puts money in your pocket
and makes it easier for you at the, beginning the,
middle and the. End dial seven one three two nine
zero one, thousand seven one three two nine zero one,
thousand or visit us AT. Dnm IT'S Dnm, leasing dmauto

(01:39:56):
leasing Dot, com dmauto leasing Dot.

Speaker 5 (01:39:58):
Com they.

Speaker 7 (01:39:59):
Can they need to win awards and there's a reason
why DN M it's dmauto leasing Dot Com.

Speaker 5 (01:40:06):
Live The Shawn Salisbury show continued off this.

Speaker 4 (01:40:11):
Week gonna take On florida next week to open UP
sec play and The horns finding out yesterday they're gonna Get,
TEXAS a AND, M oklahoma And arkansas every year for
the next four years in the new nine GAME Sec
conference schedule that is out, there so you get all
three rivalries that even before joining THE, sec that's what

(01:40:33):
they had of The aggies And, sooners WHICH i mean
The sooners that didn't go away no matter, what BUT
a AND m did for a, time and Then arkansas,
too which that's one that goes back to the old.
Times but STILL i mean that hatred is still running,
deep mostly from The arkansas. Side not necessarily From. Texas
texas is, like we love to Hate. Oklahoma we do.

(01:40:54):
It although the funny thing is With texas fans is
LIKE i was even hearing this over the weekend too
After arch had the. Game, oh our offense is back on. Track,
bro you Played Saam houston like you Played Saam. Houston
you're not back on. Track you'll find out just how
it back on track you are next week when you
go To. Florida that's when you'll find out if it
really is. Good And arch has exercised some demons and

(01:41:16):
done all those. Things until, then you're still a work in.
Progress i'm glad that they're keeping these rivalries in THE,
sec but they need to keep these rivalries even across.
CONFERENCES missoo And kansas didn't play for a. Decade Stupid, Texas,
TEXAS a AND m didn't play for over a. Decade Stupid.
Oklahoma Oklahoma state now not gonna, play. Stupid figure it.
Out this is what people, want, right the whole point

(01:41:39):
of your. Sport we can stop pretending this is about
student athletes or. Whatever all, Right you're there to give
the people what they, want which is they want to
play the Teams they don't like the. Rivalries that's all
they care, about. RIGHT i went To. Missoo they want
to hate On. Kansas why didn't you play each other
for ten? Years okahom And Oklahoma state want to hate each?
Other why aren't you Playing texas And TEXAS? A and

(01:42:00):
that vibe was incredible At Kyle field last, year the
first time they've done it a.

Speaker 5 (01:42:04):
Decade why stop? It stop VALUING.

Speaker 4 (01:42:08):
Tv money over what you're gonna GET tv money for,
anyway which is big rivalry. Games we'll get To Tamiko
ryans talking about The Nick, Cayley you know footage they
showed on the sidelines that it looks like.

Speaker 5 (01:42:21):
Him, man it looks like you're going at YOUR.

Speaker 4 (01:42:23):
Oc we'll get to that here in the coming up.
Segment But doug wants to weigh. In, doug good, Morning hey.

Speaker 9 (01:42:31):
Gentlemen how's it?

Speaker 5 (01:42:31):
Going Good?

Speaker 9 (01:42:32):
Man got a question FOR i couldn't. Answer my wife
even asked me this last. Night is watching the game last,
night they would pan to both offensive coordinators saying how
good of a job they're. Doing and they're both sitting
up high in the press box surrounded by a bevy of.
Coaches in fact one of the camera pans that showed
one of the assistant coaches had like. Binoculars he was

(01:42:53):
trying to check something. Out when you go to The,
texans it's usually what it Is Nick keley on the,
sideline and when the camera pans to, him nine times
out of, ten he's looking down at his, chart almost
oblivious to what's happening on the. Field, now from a fans,
perspective Since i'm not a, COACH i figured i'd ask, you,
guys what is the difference in. Philosophies it seems like

(01:43:15):
both The lions you, know and The ravens last night
have a bevy of coaches upstairs studying what works what doesn't.

Speaker 5 (01:43:22):
Work on The.

Speaker 9 (01:43:23):
Texan, standpoint it seems like you've got one guy looking
almost at a menu at a restaurant trying to pick a.
Play and my wife even asked, me why is? That
what's the different between the, Two AND i, said you,
KNOW i don't. Know i'll call in the morning and
ask the, experts see what they can tell.

Speaker 5 (01:43:36):
ME i appreciate your.

Speaker 9 (01:43:37):
Show i'll hang up and listen to with you.

Speaker 4 (01:43:38):
Guys tell ME i appreciate, It, Doug i'm use expert
in loose, terms. PLEASE i don't want to oversell myself on,
that but a lot of times with, THAT i think
it's a couple of. Things it's number, one it's. Comforts
do you feel better on the sidelines or do you
feel better up in the. Booth and then you'll also,
TOO i, mean, watch it's going to eventually have and

(01:44:00):
if this struggle, Continues, Oh Nick hayley's up in the,
booth it's it's window. Dressing it's it's more optics than.
Anything doesn't change. Anything it's either you can do.

Speaker 5 (01:44:11):
The job or you.

Speaker 4 (01:44:11):
Can't and it doesn't matter where you're on the sidelines
or you're up in the. BOOTH i, mean it just
happens to. Be and by the, way, TOO i mean
after that first, week weren't people kind of freaking out
about The lions a little bit when they went up
To Green bay and got boat raced and people are, Wondering,
hey Maybe Dan campbell's not as good Without Aaron glynn
And Ben johnson, Here and then the last couple of weeks, it's, oh,
no you're Still.

Speaker 5 (01:44:31):
Lions, okay we get.

Speaker 4 (01:44:32):
It you still have really good players on your, team
and these guys are capable enough to be able to
put them in positions to make. Plays, yeah we will
have a good Overreaction, monday don't. WE i, mean you're
on the, field you get a better feel for the, reaction,
Right but you also don't get to see the overhead
view and see the whole, field and when you're up
in the booth you don't necessarily get the feel of

(01:44:54):
how the players are reacting or the defense is reacting
to what you're. Doing but you get a better. Look
so it's a preference. Thing do you like to see
the whole field and see how routes are developing and
see how the line is? Blocking or do you want
to be able to feel the vibe and the energy
of the guys coming off the field and HAVE. Cj
stroud go up to you and, go hey this? Work

(01:45:15):
this DIDN'T i saw the mic was shading. Left can
we do? Something or can you see from up? Top
that kind of? Things it's a feel thing now in
one hundred percent is and it's it's also Too you
know what he mentioned about looking at the play. SHEET
i remember that's what people used to say About gary
two of you Know, koobiak like where it's just, like,
ah he's just always looking at that waffle house menu
and it's, like, well always got the plays on, It so,

(01:45:36):
yeah you probably should do. That BUT i, mean, look
it's one of those that's the way that you look
if You're if you're, winning then it's, cute it's, nice
it's all of those. Things but if you're, losing then
it's immediately looked to as, oh, well that's a reason
that this team is. LOSING i love the waffle house
menu thing because right now you have an offensive line

(01:45:58):
that is allowing your quarter back to get, scattered smothered and.
Covered AND i like how you just did that right.
There i'm ALWAYS i always throw a chunk in there.
Too that's usually the way to Go All star special if.

Speaker 5 (01:46:09):
You, know you know all?

Speaker 4 (01:46:10):
Right speaking Of Nick, kayley and was the head coach Yelling,
Adam we'll let you hear from the head coach right.
Here it is The Sean Salisbury show On Atahano, Tuesday

Painters that's Painting Happy.

Speaker 5 (01:47:28):
This Sean salisbury show continues to.

Speaker 4 (01:47:30):
Continue one thing too THAT i think kind of raised
my intenna a little bit With demiko IS i think
it was after the first game he had talked about
some of the issues of getting the.

Speaker 5 (01:47:41):
Play out of the, huddle getting the, line all.

Speaker 4 (01:47:43):
Of, that wasting too much, time any of those different
types of, things and that might have been a little
bit of the frustration That demiko had if indeed he
was upset with his. Oc, Well dimiko was asked about
being caught on the sidelines on camera yelling at, someone
and he talked about it yesterday when he addressed the.

Speaker 10 (01:48:02):
Media if you guys saw me animated on the, field
that was. DIRECTED i think during that snap we got
on the, ball we went, tempo and the refs held
the held our offense from continuing to run their, play
and the ref said that we were, substituting which we
were not.

Speaker 5 (01:48:19):
Substituting no one.

Speaker 10 (01:48:20):
On our sideline got off the sideline or, moved and
so they didn't allow us to run our temple.

Speaker 5 (01:48:27):
Offense they held they hailed the.

Speaker 10 (01:48:28):
Huddle so that's WHO i was talking to the official
right and making sure that we were able to run our.

Speaker 5 (01:48:33):
Offense the proper. Way i'm just just we don't think
you were just a.

Speaker 1 (01:48:37):
Player but you weren't yelling at you weren't yelling at
it at killing.

Speaker 10 (01:48:40):
CORRECTLY i just SAID i was talking to the. Official,
NO i was not yelling at any anybody on our,
sideline any, coaches any.

Speaker 4 (01:48:51):
Players all, Right SO i mean he also has the headset,
too so he could probably, just you, know, hey speed him,
up get him up to the, line let's. Go so
yelling at one of the officials on the sidelines there
for that?

Speaker 5 (01:49:05):
One you buying? IT i don't.

Speaker 4 (01:49:07):
Know he's getting a little. Testy why can't you just
answer the question? Directly were you yelling At Nick?

Speaker 5 (01:49:11):
Kyley? NO i was not yelling At Nick. KELEY i was.

Speaker 9 (01:49:13):
Young.

Speaker 4 (01:49:14):
Yeah why is the? RESPONSE i just SAID i was
yelling at the. Officials why is the response a few
weeks ago about the injury reporting stuff where he got
into a three minute soliloquy about you, KNOW i don't like, Speculation,
well then give us the. Informations you don't speculate if you, go,
hey this guy's got this injury and he's going to
be out six to eight. Weeks we don't know if

(01:49:35):
it's closer to. Six we don't, know it's closer to.
Eight we'll figure it. Out there's not a follow up
question to, that was that the being asked about mixing
and caring about the. Guy, yeah which it's, Like, OKAY
i understand what you're, doing but like this is going
to sound, Harsh i'll just say, it like nobody really
cares if he's a nice. Guy like it's just really

(01:49:56):
the bottom line of it, all like people care if he's.
PLAYING i, MEAN i understand again that doesn't sound you,
know very touchy. Feely but at the same, TIME i,
mean when you're being asked about a player being, injured
you should first off know that it's going to be.
Asked because that's the part with me that honestly like
annoys me to no, end is like when you gaslight

(01:50:17):
me for asking a question that you should have known was.
Coming like If joe a, spot WHICH i mean he
kind of did With Chandler rome last week about is
is Your i'm gonna go on the? Il did you
hear WHAT i just? Said it's, like come, on, man
you have to know that that's.

Speaker 5 (01:50:32):
Coming.

Speaker 4 (01:50:32):
Yeah, well and it's also, like so you're because the
response to that, is you're gonna play a man. Down
they did for two days and it worked and they.
Won but that's not a stupid question to. Ask why
would you play a man down from two days because
you know you're gonna let the swelling go down or.
Whatever the guy's not gonna play just and you, yes
you're gonna get the retroactive when you place him on THE.

(01:50:53):
Il but you're gonna place him on THE, Il like
why is that being? Hidden and it's the same thing
with with the mixin, injury AND i LIKE i get,
That oh you don't want the opponents to.

Speaker 5 (01:51:04):
Whatever it doesn't you're all in. Three it doesn't matter
at this.

Speaker 4 (01:51:07):
Point that's WHY i hate when college coaches do the
like we don't put out a too deep Like florida
did it the other. Day, yeah you're twenty and twenty.
Two now as a head, coach you. Suck you aren't
good enough to do this stuff if You're Nick, saban,
which by the, way my thing With Nick saban greatest
college football coach of all time off OF nfl.

Speaker 5 (01:51:28):
Coach so you don't get to do that.

Speaker 4 (01:51:30):
Either you don't get to treat people like that at
the lead when you didn't win at the top. Level
you're not that good of a coach because you didn't
win at the top. Level How bill O'Brien is a
BETTER nfl coach Than Nick. Saban Nick saban is obviously
significantly better college football coach Than bill O'Brien, Is but
at the highest level of professional football.

Speaker 1 (01:51:49):
In the, World.

Speaker 4 (01:51:50):
Bill O'Brien out Coached Nick, saban and he would still
do stuff like that which didn't endear him to the
media or the fan. Base WHICH i mean not saying
you necessarily need to to make one of those groups,
happy BUT i mean the benefit of the doubt does help.
You BUT i am with you on, That like whenever
you try to do the cloak and dagger stuff with,
oh we're not gonna give you a too Deep oh
so you're not gonna help out the broadcasters who are

(01:52:12):
trying to showcase your, program got it, okay loser mentality
and it's it's more college Coaches and obviously THE nfl
has rules that for a, reason and there's a reason
that THE nfl nothing to help. You, yeah it does absolutely.
Zero they know about your. Team that's what you have
to be concerned. About if you're losing football. Games it
ain't because we know who your backup left guard.

Speaker 5 (01:52:32):
Is that ain't the.

Speaker 4 (01:52:33):
Reason there is a reason THE nfl is as popular
as it is because it is an easy way for
casual fans to get into. Sports do you know how
many people who don't normally care about SPORTS i hear
from about fantasy football. Advice that's why the salaries are going.
Up that's why you get thirty, million forty million viewers

(01:52:55):
for AN AFC nfc playoff. Game that's why A fox
three twenty five game is crushing because you have all
sorts of casuals that are sitting there watching the game
because they got a fantasy team, going or they're gambling or.
Whatever SO i Get demko's point that those people do
not care About Joe mixon's feelings as a, person and they're,

(01:53:17):
right they. Don't but that's the. Deal you are a
professional athlete who has access to pretty much everything in the,
world who is getting paid a massive salary and have
every opportunity to have a successful life because you're good at,
football which is. Great And i'm happy for those, people
and they deserve the. Money AND i had a conversation WITH.

(01:53:38):
Cj stroud last year and he, said do you think
that football players are underpaid relative to other?

Speaker 5 (01:53:44):
Sports? YEAH i, said, yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:53:45):
Probably you guys draw the most attention by, far you
have the BEST tv. Ratings the quarterbacks are making great,
money but they're you guys still don't have fully guaranteed.
Contracts and kind of WHAT i told him IS i
believe the next thing is EVENTUALLY nfl will have full
guaranteed contracts way THAT nba AND mlb, Do and that's
just kind of the the next, guarantee the next one
of my. FAVORITES i think that that is the next

(01:54:07):
frontier FOR nfl, contracts and because that's where they're. Underpaid
because if You're Anthony rendon and you get two hundred
and forty five, million and you suck your two hundred
forty five millions going in the. Bank but if you're
AN nfl player and you get your big contracts seventy seven,
million but forty you're you're only getting forty out of
that seventy seven million if you don't. Perform SO i
think that's the next. Frontier but the reason that salaries

(01:54:31):
are up and your sport is at the top is
because the casual fans, care and so you just gotta
deal with.

Speaker 2 (01:54:36):
It.

Speaker 5 (01:54:37):
Yep it's a lot of grinning and, bearing all.

Speaker 4 (01:54:39):
Right speaking of grinning and, bearing the astros hoping they
can do a little bit more grinning and could this
guy help we'll discuss right. Here Is Chris cordy also

saturdays and, studies get up put the. Spread it always

Tip was in the local grocery store over the weekend
picking it.

Speaker 5 (01:55:21):

dandy later in the day and in order to get you.

See and with The, texans they're off, today get back
On praxfield, tomorrow get ready for.

Speaker 5 (01:57:34):

Speaker 4 (01:57:34):
Sunday Jimmy ward has been taking off The commissioners exempt list,
too could return.

Speaker 5 (01:57:39):
Soon so we've been Talking.

Speaker 4 (01:57:41):
Texans, no a lot of you have wing to weigh
in on that you can someone three two, one, two, five,
seven ninety been talking a lot about THE. Oc it's
not necessarily THE, dc because, well THE dc is your
head coach and one all the. Defense for the most,
Part let's just, say of all the problems you, have
they've not been a larger problem for you to necessarily

(01:58:01):
like talk about their shortcomings on third down and also
being able to make the play to help you win a,
game because that's been the problem we talked about a
little bit.

Speaker 5 (01:58:10):
Yesterday like you've had both of those.

Speaker 4 (01:58:12):
Scenarios play out where it's like a turnover would go
hard right here and you don't get. It, man a
stop would be really nice right. Here travis etn scores a.
Touchdown SO i mean you couple that with just the
absolute ineptitude that you've had, offensively because it has been
that it's been absolutely just an abominable dross on the offensive.

(01:58:33):
SIDE i mentioned it. Earlier you have three touchdowns this
season one two three in three. Games three, yeah three three.
Touchdowns like even Like Trent dilfer and The ravens were
probably scoring at least more than one touchdown a. Game
broken play To nico potentially they let shub. IN i
mean the, offense there's no there's no confidence that they're

(01:58:58):
gonna do anything when any time they have a. Drive
the play calling is bizarre for the most. Part for
the first two games of the, year they basically didn't Use,
nico which your best offensive. Player why are you not
Using Nico? Collins CLEARLY. Cj stroud does not have confidence
in his line to give him the clock that he
needs to step up in the pocket and make whatever

(01:59:18):
play he. Needs and he's running a little bit. MORE i,
mean where is the? Confidence how is this going to?
Improve where's the confidence of this is gonna? Improve how
is this going to? Improve and it's Just i'm not
sure what the answers. Are Nick kylee will Talk with's Day.
Tuesday Nik kaylee will talk On. Thursday and as someone

(01:59:39):
who typically would Go Wednesday thursday For texans and Have
demiko Quarterback, wednesday Coordinators, thursday the coordinator day is usually
less interesting because a lot of the time it's, like you, know,
specifically what are they going to say That demiko doesn't
necessarily cover from a more authoritative voice or you want
to hear from the. Player Frank cross is fun the

(02:00:02):
special teams. Coordinator he's been doing a Good John berenthal
looks and talks just Like John burnhal is. Great, Yeah
frank is. PAT i will Give frank. This frank is
very passionate about special teams and it rubs off and
it makes, you as someone who doesn't necessarily care about special,
teams it makes you like interested because he's so into.
It it just makes him a good special teams. Coordinator,

(02:00:23):
well then you, know help out on offense if he.
Can that's WHAT i was. Saying Maybe Frank cross should
be calling. Plays if he put the same amount of
energy and he does the kickblock gunners or, whatever maybe
the offense would be lightening it up forty points a.
Game Because i've never seen anyone care more about anything
in the world Than Frank ross cares about the minutia
of special. TIME i would say that he usually the
coolest coaches to be able to catch up with on

(02:00:44):
a team or the special teams, coaches they usually have
the most personality because it's ALSO i mean think Of John,
HARBALL i mean, people when he got the, job it
was like hiring a special teams. Coach it's, like, no
that is who you hire because they deal with. Everyone
it's not just dealing with. Quarterbacks it's not just dealing
with defensive back like you're dealing with almost everyone on the.
Team they make good CEOs because they're good of the.

(02:01:05):
Details and that's WHAT i like About Frank. Cross but
finally A thursday When Nick kayley, talks and so, FAR
i don't think that he's made a lot of waves
in his press. Conferences it's just kind of like the new.
Guy he's Not Bobby. Slowick it's going to be. Better
he's going to give c. Jails he's not going to
give you a two and a half minutes soliloquy where
he doesn't even answer your. Question that guy gave the

(02:01:27):
Most like you would look at your answer that you
got from him and be, like, oh two and a half,
minutes and then you go back and listen to it
and you're, like he said, nothing not a SoundBite in.

Speaker 5 (02:01:35):
There, yeah you. Knows does That and the one.

Speaker 4 (02:01:38):
Day Uh casario got accused of word, Salad casario does
that one hundred. Percent he Is. Uh he could run sweet.
Green the word salad sweet. GREEN i just WHAT i
love and and it's gonna come BECAUSE i mean he'll
do his you, know in the middle of the, season you,
know address whatever you want to call. It And i'm
sure somehow we're gonna be blamed for, not you, know

(02:02:00):
giving more credit To Nick kyley and all of, that
and you, know it was a great, hire all of
those different types of things that's.

Speaker 5 (02:02:05):
Coming you, know it is the. Program everything's the.

Speaker 4 (02:02:09):
Program, yeah, yeah here here here in our program where
you know It's it's funny because you hear organization used
a lot in the pros and then you don't necessarily
hear it the other way in. College REMEMBER i Asked
Nick saban that because he used to always our organization
And i'm, like why do you use that, word, like you,
know it's it's a. Program he's, like, well it's this

(02:02:30):
it's developing you, know people for more than. Football so,
yeah it's an. Organization AND i was, like, okay.

Speaker 5 (02:02:36):
Cool So i'm.

Speaker 4 (02:02:37):
Sure people really appreciate that. STORY i just thought i'd
go ahead and put that in right. There but with The,
astros the door is open for Ord On alvarez to
join the team the final weekend. Series if the door
is open and he can step through, IT i Think
Jordon alvarez is playing in that final.

Speaker 5 (02:02:55):
Series he has to.

Speaker 4 (02:02:57):
He the reason his contract is set up the way it,
is the six, year one hundred and fifteen million contract
is only quote unquote only one hundred fifteen, million is
because you can't rely on his, knees you can't now
rely on his. Hands and he's clearly just not like
a physically comfortable doing athletic things other than Hitting baseball's

(02:03:20):
very hard person and so he might get hurt at any,
time and we saw that this, year and that's why
it's not two hundred million or three hundred. Million AND
i think For, jordon AND i know that he wants
to be out there to sort of show what Estoc
paratus has shown you THAT i will do whatever it,
takes even though my hamstring is, cooked do whatever it
takes to be on the. FIELD i wouldn't mind seeing

(02:03:40):
that From jord on for a few.

Speaker 5 (02:03:41):
Days it'd be, nice for.

Speaker 4 (02:03:43):
Sure hopefully The astros do get him back and you
get the production out of his bat back, Too all
of those things would be very. Nice semone, three two
and two five seven Ninety John ken see you guys

Speaker 4 (02:06:40):
Chris gordy is here and uh working into the conversation
here in just the Second, gords but real quick, here
let's bring In ken and Clearla, ken what's going?

Speaker 11 (02:06:49):
On, hello, guys thank?

Speaker 12 (02:06:51):
You uh you, know, uh you know The Texan i'm
Just i've been up you, know the oilers you know
for over thirty, years you, know didn't do jack except
for the first two or three and then we get
The texans and, uh you.

Speaker 11 (02:07:06):
Know they they just had their they just had this
laser focus on doing it The patriots. Way bill, O'Brien
Jack easterby To, sario you, know get off of your
lazy buds and do the hard work and go find
better people, better you know, better and then you know

(02:07:27):
we got we're wasting c j strous rookie contract And
i've Just i've just about freaking had.

Speaker 4 (02:07:34):
It NOW i understand the, frustration appreciate the, Call, ken
and you, Know, gordy that's when we'll start the. CONVERSATION
i Mean ken's point right there about the rookie, contract
because that's when you can do fun, things is when
you have a rookie quarterback that's not being paid a
ton of money and it doesn't gobble up your salary.
Cap so is it fair to say that last? YEAR i,

(02:07:57):
mean you tried it by going out and Getting Steffan.
Diggs you're off in, line sucked and he got. Hurt
so that didn't really. Work so then you tried again this.
Year rete you go out and get a couple of
receivers in the draft, class and you're trying to be
able to build up this, offense and you make some
moves in the offseason in terms of trying to build
up this offensive line and it's still a. Mess, like
is this something we're going to look back at? Once

(02:08:18):
you do have to EXTEND cj As. Man they really
miss their opportunity to go after this, THING i think.

Speaker 13 (02:08:25):
SO i mean the one everybody always goes to is
The seahawks with One Russell wilson was on his rookie
deal and the legion of. Boom they were able to
go spend a bunch of money and surround him by
a bunch of talent and make runs At Super bowls
and all.

Speaker 5 (02:08:36):
That BUT.

Speaker 13 (02:08:39):
I don't, KNOW i think it's a combination. Everything offensive
line still. Sucks you've downgraded at pass catching weapons. BASICALLY i, mean,
granted you need the Two Iowa state dudes to come
along and hopefully they mature into. Something but, YEAH i
MEAN i still go back to The Stefan diggs, deal
like when you acquired him awesome and then you re

(02:09:00):
deal to make it a one year.

Speaker 5 (02:09:01):
Deal, okay you get a first round pick for.

Speaker 13 (02:09:03):
That, LIKE i still go back to that As, LIKE
i don't know what they were doing there, again it
must have been a discussion with his.

Speaker 5 (02:09:09):
Agent and agreement all he wants to hit the market.

Speaker 13 (02:09:11):
Again, okay, Whatever BUT i would have liked to have
kept him another year because outside An Ico, collins there's
nobody else in this receiving CORPS i.

Speaker 5 (02:09:20):
Trust on top OF i Think CJ's recrossed a little.
BIT i know. Everybody the hot topic last year, Was oh,
no it was the offensive. Line it WASN'T. CJ i
want to.

Speaker 13 (02:09:28):
J cj looks like an average ass dude out. There and,
again if it's part to the offensive line to, blame
it's part the wide receiver coach to, blame it's part
the only seed to.

Speaker 5 (02:09:36):
Blame it was blame to go all.

Speaker 13 (02:09:37):
Around but, yes you are going to look back on
this and, go we wasted some great years of what
could have been with a great.

Speaker 4 (02:09:45):
Quarterback you had a guy who looked like a world
beater as a, rookie and so it made perfect sense
to get him more weapons the first, year and then
it didn't work and the, result AND i think the
tank dele getting hurt is a bigger part in this
than anyone else. Realizes for many. Reasons, one he stretches the,
field he can play, slot he does all these different,
things and him AND cj are best. Friends do not

(02:10:08):
discount the power of, friendship all. RIGHT i think the
vibes have been a little bit.

Speaker 5 (02:10:13):
Off with him being.

Speaker 4 (02:10:14):
OUT i don't think it helped The Christian kirk missed
the first couple of weeks and it didn't feel like
he was all that, involved BECAUSE i do Think Christian
kirk can be a useful player FOR cj to have
a check, down to have a guy when The nico
throw is an open but beyond that tank is, out
who do you?

Speaker 5 (02:10:31):
Have Xavier hutchinson was a sixth round. Pick if you're
relying on, him that's a.

Speaker 4 (02:10:35):
Problem Jayden higgins is clearly not ready enough to get
all these targets and maybe by the end of the,
year almost treating him Like Reed shepherd at this point
where this guy is not really getting the snaps and
by the end of the, year hopefully he turns into.
Something but there's a lot of guys around the league
in the past few, years especially at wide, receiver that
are second round, picks the third round picks who are

(02:10:55):
immediately ready To lad McCaughey last year immediately. READY a
lot of guys like that that are ready to go right.
Away why is he not necessarily getting if he's that,
good if you are the first second round pick to
you ever get a full guaranteed contract design to play for,
him specifically for.

Speaker 5 (02:11:11):
Him why is that?

Speaker 13 (02:11:12):
Money BUT i see some people, saying you, know, oh
instead of getting those two, receivers they should have spent
on offensive. Linemen, OKAY i mean then you have some
so if the offensive line is a little bit, better
then you have crappier pass. CATCHERS i, MEAN i don't,
KNOW i don't, know like how how you disperse what
what's going on?

Speaker 5 (02:11:28):
HERE i just know.

Speaker 13 (02:11:29):
This Nick casario got all the praise from the draft
from two years ago and GETTING. Cg, stroud Getting Will Anderson.
Jr they hit, hit, hit hit. Hit sometimes you miss as,
well AND i think he has very much missed on
retooling this offensive.

Speaker 4 (02:11:44):
Line oh we did the exercise hearing a break of
ari going back and looking at the draft, classes and
it's either guys that are out of the league or
guys that are on their way out of the. LEAGUE i,
Mean Kenyon green is the one that people point to the,
most But Blake fisher. Last if this guy's not breaking
the starting five or at least the rotation right.

Speaker 5 (02:12:03):
Now what does that tell you what you think about? Him?

Speaker 13 (02:12:05):
Yeah because THAT i, mean that's you, know it's the
second round pick on that. Guy second round pick on
a tackle by your two should be starting for you
just most, situations.

Speaker 4 (02:12:14):
Should be a useful. Player so, yeah let's do. This
so twenty twenty, one, no no offensive lineman. Drafted twenty twenty,
two they trade up For Kenyon. Green Kenyan green was
so bad that you traded him away and he is
basically bouncing around the practice squad for The. Eagles we
know About Kenyon green's a top fifteen pick, too, right,
yep fifteenth overall. Pick he was terrible sixth round And
i'm not going to give a whole lot of credit

(02:12:34):
or you, know discount is a sixth round. Pick whatever he,
gets whatever you, Get Austin. Deculus he is playing a
little bit for another. Team second, Around, yeah lsu. Gut,
okay twenty twenty, Three Juice scruggs second round, pick back
end of the second. Round but second round pick not
a good. Player? Okay you have twenty twenty four second
round Pick Blake fisher back into the second. Round still

(02:12:55):
a second round pick was a healthy. Scratch this week
because he's not good enough to be on the. Roster
and then in the seventh round you draft La Darius,
henderson WHO i heard way too much about training. Camp,
yeah why are we talking about a seventh round pick
guard who? Cares you shouldn't know that guy's. Name and
then this YEAR ursii who obviously it's only been three,
games but he had a rough one this past.

Speaker 5 (02:13:16):
Week poor.

Speaker 13 (02:13:16):
GUY i saw the video of him, yesterday, Like i'll
go to play. Better i'm, like, dude it's not on.

Speaker 4 (02:13:21):
You, yeah do not take the play For thisay you.
Relax he was wearing roller skates Against josh Heinz. Allen
BUT i Mean josh Heines allen and fairness does to
a lot of. People BUT i, mean but that's their point.
THOUGH i, mean, like you're counting on a guy that
was a high second round pick to like save your offensive. Line,
brother you are setting yourself up for failure if that's

(02:13:44):
really going to be what you're hinging your hopes of that.

Speaker 5 (02:13:47):
Group of five.

Speaker 4 (02:13:47):
On and you're putting him at left tackle right away
because you have no one. Else how you Have Nick,
asari who has gotten all this, praise and he is
as bad at drafting offensive line an evaluating offensive lineman
As Bill belichick was at wide. Receivers remember when we
drafted that guy From marshall whose NAME i don't remember
because he's so BAD i don't remember his.

Speaker 5 (02:14:08):
Name probably a good.

Speaker 4 (02:14:09):
Point and then the other wide receivers who did, Nothing
Nikhil harry who did. Nothing this is this is that.
Level we're at the level Of Nick castereo looking at
The hogmalli's and just like having the confusion question marks
from metal year solid above his. Head whoever wins The
Joe Moore award this, year if somebody out of that
offensive line is in the, draft draft, them.

Speaker 13 (02:14:30):
You, know get a big, go give me a Big
michigan old. Lineman give me somebody like.

Speaker 4 (02:14:35):
That wait For Kirk farens to retire POTENTIAL iowa this
year For, iowa and you bring him in as a,
consultant because that guy knows how to look at offensive.

Speaker 5 (02:14:42):
Linemen here's.

Speaker 4 (02:14:43):
HOPING i, guess all, right we'll continue the conversation With
gord's get into some astros also. Too we got a
touch On fred Van vliet and also A lsu player
who is already getting in on the.

Speaker 5 (02:14:58):
Gamesmanship this week like. It you know Where i'm going with.

Speaker 4 (02:15:01):
This we'll talk about it Here Chris Gordy curtsey At
Carbock Brewing right, Here Sean Salisbury, Show Sports talk seven Ninety.

Speaker 7 (02:15:07):
NOW Dnm leasing just delivered a truck to a customer
who had listened TO dnm for more than twenty five.
Years think about, that and he'd been hearing these commercials,
forever right for. Decades he believed leasing was just renting a.
CAR i put in air, quotes something you only did
if you couldn't afford to. Buy and who hasn't been,
there right. Guys BUT Dnm leasing's here to change. That
that changed when the dealership offered him an eighty four month.

(02:15:29):
Loan he knew he'd trade the truck in in a few,
years and he knew he'd end up well upside down,
again owing more than it was. Worth, well that's when
he remembered THE dnm. Commercials ever seen A texas? Title
and when you trade in a long finance, contract the
only thing you own is negative. Equity those, quotes so
he CALLED dnm leasing showed him is that leasing isn't

(02:15:51):
about what you can. Afford it's simply the smarter way
most people pay for their vehicles. Smarter see what smarter
does for, you AND dnm leasing is. Smart leasing isn't.
Renting let me say it, Again leasing isn't. Renting it's.
Smarter who doesn't want? Smarter harder doesn't always. Work smarter,
does and especially when it puts money in your pocket

(02:16:11):
and makes it easier for you at the, beginning the,
middle and the. End dial seven one three two nine
zero one thousand seven one three two nine zero one,
thousand or visit us at DN m IT'S dnm, leasing
dmauto leasing dot, com dmauto leasing dot. Com they continue
to win awards and there's a reason why dn m

(02:16:32):
it's dmauto leasing Dot.

Speaker 5 (02:16:34):
Com The Sean Salisbury show, Continued.

Speaker 4 (02:16:42):
Shamsherania reporting that The rocket's going to be without point
Guard Fred vanvliet torn acl off season. Workouts so we'll
start it there and wrap it up with some astros
kick that around.

Speaker 5 (02:16:53):
Yet, like is there is there a player out there
that can be traded?

Speaker 4 (02:16:56):
For so we did do that exercise earlier where they
do have the disability exception is that.

Speaker 5 (02:17:04):
A half million?

Speaker 4 (02:17:05):
Dollars all, Right so they've got that there are some
players that are out, there BUT i, Mean i've got
to believe next week more over There gordy for Media,
day it's going to be a lot Of Reed shepherd
and a lot Of Aaron holliday.

Speaker 13 (02:17:16):
Talk And Aaron holliday's played well for, them but in his,
role you know WHAT i mean as that as that
guy off the, bed so that can.

Speaker 4 (02:17:23):
Give you a little bit of a spillas and the
spots start here and. There Because fred's been out with or,
WHATEVER i just DON'T i, mean and, AGAIN i don't
know If reed's ready. Yet, still he's still developing kind
of towards. It back in the last season kind of
came on a little.

Speaker 13 (02:17:37):
Bit BUT i think he's better served as that wing
guy that can he, can he can distribute a little,
bit he can, defend but it's really HIS i think
his calling card in THE nba is going to be
that knockdown three point.

Speaker 4 (02:17:48):
Shooting and that's the thing IS i, MEAN i was
talking about With ari a little bit. EARLIER i, mean you,
know you hear about him with distribution in those, things
BUT i, mean that is what you want in this.
OFFENSE i think absolutely would. WANT i think that probably
do See holiday out of the, gate but and THEN
i think probably when you get to mid to Late,
january that's when you start to see more minutes For.
REID i don't think you entrust a deep run to

(02:18:09):
a second year point guard who barely played last year
until the end of the. Year and you don't entrust
a deep run To Aaron. Holiday like we were talking about,
this when you get in the, playoffs It's Aaron holliday
chasing Around Steph.

Speaker 5 (02:18:20):
Curry for thirty six.

Speaker 4 (02:18:21):
Minutes It's Aaron holliday chasing Around Shake, gill Just Alexander, Luka.
Doncicch you don't want that they got to get. Someone
i'm not necessarily sure that the, solution and it could
be the solution could be Read shepherd all, year knowing
that your team is good enough that if he doesn't
play well In november And december And january and you
just kind of let him build up and go, along
that you're gonna win enough games for it to not

(02:18:43):
matter and you can still get the three or the
four or whatever seed because you Have Kevin durant And
Alprin shangoon And Jabari smith And Territory easton And, amen
and you're, like.

Speaker 5 (02:18:52):
You have this depth they build up all this depth to.

Speaker 4 (02:18:55):
Withstand the twenty games that you're gonna need to Sit
Kevin durant roughly just to keep his bones from akin.
Nice and you have guys Like Tarry easton who's had
kind of the lingering leg thing going on for the
past couple of, years different stuff that if he's not,
playing you can weather that because you have four other
guys that play a similar. Role Point guard is the

(02:19:16):
one position where they don't necessarily have that depth that
they do everywhere.

Speaker 13 (02:19:20):
Else, well let me throw out some names of some
guys who are. Available you, guys do these are free?
Agents tell me if you think this would be. Viable first,
One Gary Payton. Jr Former rockets draft. PICK i don't
know IF i didn't trust him to be your.

Speaker 5 (02:19:33):
STARTER i, mean that's that's depth purpose is. Only but, yeah.

Speaker 4 (02:19:36):
Sure how About Russell? Westbrook SEE i run it, back.
Baby see we talked about that a little. Bit UDOKA
i think would kill.

Speaker 13 (02:19:45):
Him, uh this one now, here this is you have
to start this one.

Speaker 5 (02:19:49):
Out hear me.

Speaker 4 (02:19:49):
Out Ben. Simmons, no that's a good. Fisherman does he
care about basketball?

Speaker 5 (02:19:55):
Anymore? So if he did, That i'd love to see ben.

Speaker 4 (02:20:00):
My building a bowling team or AM i building a
team that can actually?

Speaker 5 (02:20:03):
Win? YEAH i mean he can't, shoot but he can
move the ball.

Speaker 4 (02:20:06):
Around WHAT i just said about the bowling. Team WHAT
i just, said no more. Nonshooters.

Speaker 13 (02:20:12):
Uh the other one Is Corey, Joseph Patty mills. Campaign
those are kind of all some free agent point guards to.

Speaker 4 (02:20:18):
Campaign, Yes Patty mills is thirty, Seven Corey joseph is
thirty four years. Old the only other guys you look
at the, list Like Alec burks is thirty. FOUR i
think The knicks just Signed Malcolm. Brogden Malcolm brogden would
have made. Sense he's a guy that's got a previous
relationship with Ima. Udoka but it's hard to rely on
these young point guards because you look at some of
the top point guards around THE nba and outside of

(02:20:39):
the guys Like luca who a generational prospect type of,
guy look At Jalen. Brunson how long did it take
For Jalen brunson to develop into a this is a
playoff killer type? Guy Tyrese haliburton last, year he's been
in the league a. While how long did it take for?
Him how long did it take For Shake Gildes alexander
to develop into THE. Mvp it's almost like offensive linemen
and ty. Ends you're just not gonna get that impact

(02:21:02):
year one and year two unless it's a, special special.
Guy And i'm not Sure Reed shepherd is in that
class of. Player, WELL i, mean he's gonna be asked
to do a lot more than he was last.

Speaker 5 (02:21:12):
YEAR i don't think there's any doubt about.

Speaker 2 (02:21:13):
It that.

Speaker 13 (02:21:13):
Agree you don't Want Aman thompson to be here starting point, guard,
right he's better served as that to the defender and all.

Speaker 4 (02:21:22):
That and then even when you play, small he can
be the. Three, yeah all all of those. Things let's
get into little bit of, astros BECAUSE i heard you
And matt And ross talking about this a little bit
yesterday of you just can't trust Frommer so Tonight Christian
hobby here he, pitches well you do get into the,
postseason does he vault in as being a number two for?

Speaker 5 (02:21:40):
You and here's another SCENARIO i want you to think.

Speaker 4 (02:21:42):
About you're going to probably more than likely have to
Pitch Hunter brown twice this. Week if that, happens Goodbye game.
One you can't have him thrown then.

Speaker 13 (02:21:51):
So hunter is slated to Go, wednesday so YOU i
don't THINK i would have him Go. Sunday but, again
if if playoffs are on the, LINE.

Speaker 4 (02:21:59):
I, mean, yeah, yeah IF i If i've got to
win to get in damn, Right, yeah for, sure that's.

Speaker 13 (02:22:04):
TOUGH i just think of a scenario and let's just
play it. Out let's say they get to the wall card,
round they're on the road In seattle Or Yankee stadium
orhoerever they. ARE i Think hunter brown game one if
if you can get if you can get him the,
ball you cannot have to pitch Him. SUNDAY i think
he Goes tuesday in game. One if you win that,

(02:22:26):
game Then i'm. Okay Given fromber the ball in game.
Two but if you lose game, ONE i can't Give
fromber in a season on the line game, YEAH.

Speaker 4 (02:22:40):
Aj blue, ball a bullpen, game blue, ball that would
be a. LOOK i Think javier needs to be your
number two in that. Sense but you're right that if you,
win you now have, like all, right let's see If
fromber good From aer?

Speaker 5 (02:22:52):
Bad maybe you see Great fromber that, night you.

Speaker 4 (02:22:55):
Know, Yeah but that's just the thing, though how long
we've been waiting that for the last two and a half. Month,
well basically anybody not named The Colorado. Rockies he has
sucked against the last eight, weeks and you're Not rockies
in the postseason.

Speaker 13 (02:23:09):
Unfortunately you, Know, Look Jason alexander had a rough inning
the other, night BUT i also have to take a
step back and, go that's a Dangerous seattle lineup that
is clicking on all cylinders right. Now and his previous
four or five Starts alexander was. Awesome so let's not
just kick him to the curb because of the one bad.
Outing now here's the problem if you're walk cart around In. Seattle,

(02:23:30):
YEAH i don't know.

Speaker 4 (02:23:31):
If i'm handing him the, ball but almost he almost
wondered if you, know he he didn't make the pit
stop that he needed in order to try to win the,
race and it's kind of starting to run out of
gas a little.

Speaker 5 (02:23:41):
Bit that's just a.

Speaker 4 (02:23:42):
Concern uh real quick, here college, football how About Wait
weeks going After kiffin's.

Speaker 13 (02:23:47):
Daughter yeah that, uh that was the thing that came
out a couple of weeks ago That Lane kiffen's daughter
was dating Wit, weeks the linebacker FROM. Lsu they just
made it public this week because it's l S u
all this, week so you, know it's it's something fun
to kick around. Whatever but you, know if they like
each other and, whatever she's gonna root for him to

(02:24:07):
have a good. Game BUT i think she's gonna root
for her dad to win the football game because that's
who's buying all her.

Speaker 4 (02:24:13):
Stuff so is she gonna Go Brady quinn's sister jersey
like half a four or a zero in the other
half the powder?

Speaker 5 (02:24:20):
Blue? Probably by the, way shout out to u OF.

Speaker 13 (02:24:24):
H i saw a national story on them today About
Willie fritz and the great job he's doing recruiting and
all the attention they're. Getting and, Look Oregon State corvallis
is normally a tough place to.

Speaker 5 (02:24:34):
Play that team sucks this. Year it's a late night.

Speaker 13 (02:24:37):
Game friday is A friday night nine, thirty so you're
probably talking more like a nine to forty is. Kick
that game's gonna end after midnight Here central. Time but
if they can win that, one they come back home
four and oh For Texas tech next. Week that place
is gonna be.

Speaker 4 (02:24:52):
Popping people wondering if game day is gonna be there
for that. ONE i mean if it's four and oh
and four and oh, yeah it's it's just, tough you,
know because the last time they came WAS Smu, yeah
but what was you of a, say they were like
nine to zero or. So you, know so it's like
you almost have to get to that to get the national.

Speaker 5 (02:25:10):
Chance to make it into THE.

Speaker 4 (02:25:12):
Bcs and your head coach went ahead and started meeting
With TEXAS a AND m and then they're like, no, no,
no that's not the. Case and then you were woefully
unprepared For southern MISS i remember that.

Speaker 5 (02:25:22):
Day it was a good. Day, well Unfortunately gordon Case
keenum was good at.

Speaker 4 (02:25:26):
Football we've had a lot of those. Days we've had
need to drown sorrows because you had The astros this,
weekend The, texans and then you had The fred Van
Vliet news.

Speaker 5 (02:29:37):
One there you go for.

Speaker 14 (02:29:39):
You, Hey BEFORE i get to My Tech texans comment REGARDING,
cj regarding Your astros, talk, look as someone who has
been a fan for a long, Time i'm talking about
going back to The Larry, Dierker Sesarcedaniel Bob watson. Days,
yes it'll be disappointing if they don't make the playoffs this,
year but considering all those years where they didn't make
those playoffs and then to see a team go to

(02:30:00):
the playoffs every, year when a couple Of World SERIES,
uh or at least go to The World series when
they didn't win it or eventually lose to The World
series Eventual World.

Speaker 5 (02:30:08):
SERIES.

Speaker 14 (02:30:09):
UH i can't came playing too, much but, look we've
got to do something about giving up all these darn
home runs last season was an issue as well. Too
and also base. RUNNING i, mean these are major, leaguers.
Dude those are two things they need to work. On
AND i hope our pitching coach works on those, things
and our and our and our coaches regarding the running
because as a BASE i mean that's simple of, basics you,

(02:30:32):
know base, running and it's FROM i.

Speaker 5 (02:30:34):
UNDERSTAND i didn't.

Speaker 14 (02:30:35):
See the Game, sunday but it cost them so anyway REGARDING, cj,
NOW i didn't watch the game either BECAUSE i was
running around doing. Errands but from WHAT i, understand another's
another sports talk that was listening to, uh he had
some issues with, accuracy And i've seen games like that
where he's had an issue with. THAT i can't believe
a guy who is and is what third season getting

(02:30:56):
paid all that money can't hit wide open. RECEIVERS i,
mean what do we have a quarter coach. FOR i,
mean isn't that their job to, say, okay come here TO.
Cj you know we need to work on. This and
here it is he still missing wide open. RECEIVERS i,
mean what's what's that all? ABOUT i, Mean jamiko should
be at least pullem aside SAY i want to go
work with the quarterback coach because your accuracy is and

(02:31:17):
what it should.

Speaker 5 (02:31:18):
Be what do you guys?

Speaker 4 (02:31:19):
THINK i appreciate the call starting the second one. FIRST i,
mean we've seen how ACCURATE. Cj stroud can be when
he's got his feet underneath him and he actually is sound.
Mechanically but other things have started to at least getting
to the front of his mind when he's trying to
throw the ball down the field his offensive. Line it's
hard To it's like a golf, swing, Right it's hard

(02:31:39):
to have the right swing thoughts and think about the
things that you need to do and play free and
easy when things are not going well and when you
don't necessarily have time to. THROW cj is not, blameless
but the offensive line has a lot of blame on.
It Nick cayley's play calling has a lot of blame on,
him and as a, RESULT cj is not playing. Well
they all go, together, one, two and three of the.

(02:32:00):
Blame CJ's not, blameless but as of, now this early
in the, season offensive, line, bad play, calling, bad not
a lot of.

Speaker 5 (02:32:08):
Weapons the result makes. SENSE.

Speaker 4 (02:32:11):
Yep definitely hoping it turns around On, sunday and definitely
hoping The astros can get a dub tonight against The a's.
Again astros on deck coming your, way eight. O'clock one

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
