That one's drifty to right centerfield on the run, Rodriguez
on the track, Tony look and say ya come pitch
Hire to run home ter Stan and the Yankees have
poats overin two.

Speaker 6 (00:45):
That's gonna tie the game. The Yankees have come all
the way back.
Speaker 7 (00:49):
Takes five time, but update two runs single us the
one one.
Speaker 1 (00:56):
High fly ball.
Speaker 6 (00:59):
Center tagging Bulpye. The catch is made.
Speaker 7 (01:02):
Here comes Bulty, here's the throw, here's the play. Peace,
say Yankee's made sat cid by jus. Yankee's win sick five,
don't hit no way. They come all the way back
to win it and sweet Seattle.
Speaker 8 (01:19):
And with that we say away we go in good
morning here on the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 1 (01:24):
Astros are off last night, but they get some help.
Speaker 8 (01:26):
You just heard it right, there Michael Kay yes network,
and the Yankees come back to beat the Mariners. So
now the Astro's up seven games in the West. And
also to yesterday, Bryce Matthews called up to the Astros
at least according to reports. So we'll see if that's
the case a little bit later on today when everybody
(01:47):
gets back to the ballpark and Sean, I mean, you
get a little help there, But this is also to
the Matthews side of things, where you bring him in
and now he's got an opportunity to make his major
league debut. Where we've talked about the urgency, we've talked
about trying to be able to increase this thing and
do everything you can to be able to keep Seattle
(02:11):
and Texas at arm's length. And the way that they
probably saw the last series go was Zach short and
with everybody else in the lineup that you've had, where
as I mentioned yesterday, you've been batting with six. Now
it's an opportunity for you to lengthen this lineup even
without more than likely Jake Myers, and also for the meantime,
(02:31):
while you're without Jeremy Pania and Jordan Alvarez.
Speaker 1 (02:35):
Yeah, I'm assuming you're talking to you. I'm going to
decide what the Matthews impact is going to be and
whether it's somebody else that was here. He's here for
a reason. Now it's an opportunity for him to as
a guy that they hold high regard in this organization,
to go do his thing.
Speaker 9 (02:50):
Now.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
The urgency is going to be all with this move.
How they play Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. That's the urgency
I need to see in this series. Although it's amazing
that you can be get swept in a series and
still gain ground. That's a good thing. So they're fortunate,
which gives them some latitude and some leeway. But calling
him up gives him an opportunity to perform. It also
ought to tell you that they are they don't feel
(03:13):
good about the way that this team's performing offensively, They
just and depth wise, it becomes a problem. You've got
to mix and match depending on myers and how they're
going to work that around. It just lessens a team
if another guy's hurt. So it'll be interesting to see
how he performs. But I think a lot of people
are excited to see it, and you start to put
the pieces of him and the you know Cam Smith,
(03:36):
the young players they have on this Dezenzo, this is
another chance to say men three or four. It reminds
me of the Orioles young players. You get them all
up and there's three or four or five of them
at one time. Now they're going through their struggles, but
you start to see that this has got a chance
to be special and just another guy who's got a
big load of potential and now he's going to get
(03:57):
a chance and be great if he performed so well, say,
well we found another guy to help us down the road.
Because people always worried about the future, but maybe he's
part of the present.
Speaker 8 (04:07):
Well, he is part of the president because you finally
bring him up. And I just think if nothing else,
that it got to a point where, you know, looking
for offensive production and you just saw it in this
last series that you got to a part of the
lineup where Zach Schortzen there. I think they realized pretty
quickly that what you got out of him out in
La offensively is as good as it's going to get.
(04:29):
Because these last three games you just saw that it
was not going to get any better. So Dana, we've
seen him fast track. Guys and he said, hey, hitting
well enough, Well it's time for you to get a shot.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
Yeah, and we saw. I mean, and I think that
if you're going by what you've learned about players on
this team, they did that for camp Smith in spring,
and he earned it and kept it and here he is.
And that was mashw with Bryce with a chance to
do the same thing. And I think they trust the
fact it goes back to all this about how this
organization develops players a lot of talents. One thing you
(05:03):
also look when you say, well, you had a player
here and a player here, we got to get this
guy up and get him NFL reps, not not UFL reps.
Got to get him NFL reps. And and that's what
he's gonna get and a chance for him to go.
And I hope while he's up here he gets a
lot of them. But you start to look at the
roster and say, okay, and Dana. The part of the
(05:24):
way that they develop players here that you trust, the
fact that if you think he's ready and you think, well,
let's wait a little longer. The way that camp Smith
and the way that the descendants of the world have
developed when they've come up and they fit right in.
It gives you the fact that they're not premature with this,
and I think that's what they're hoping too. And I'm
(05:46):
hoping this isn't just a temporary thing and that he
that he's here to stay, and that did he proves
that on a daily basis, and you give him run
because you start to look at now, and then you
start to look at as you start to develop the
rest of the season in the future, You've got some
pretty special stuff, some special talent that have been developed. Right,
we're going to find out if this one fits into
But the success of guys pre him, since Dane has
(06:08):
been here and even before with this organization, I would
think make it a lot easier for you to make
this decision and say he's so supremely gifted. Now we
got to get him up and let him learn. Well,
like Cam Smith and the rest of the via major
league pitching, he's done enough to prove to us that
he can rake, and now let's see him do it
on the big league level regularly. Well.
Speaker 8 (06:27):
And that's the other part of it too, is is
there a little bit of tea leaves here is wondering
if Jeremy Pania is not that close to coming back.
And I mean again, like I mentioned, with seeing what
we've seen out of Zach short that finally, it was
a conversation between Dana and Joe of just saying, hey,
if it's two more weeks, we can't keep going the
(06:48):
way that.
Speaker 1 (06:48):
We're going with this lineup. I think that I don't
think it's maybe. I think it's an absolute reason. I
think that I don't even think it's a question. I
don't think that there. You know, when you talk about that,
remember he's not doing anything upper body meaning Paenya, no
upper body work, lower body doing all that, but no
(07:08):
upper body torque or any of that, at least according
to Dana on Wednesday, So it absolutely has something to
do that. Now if that means well, he's going to
be out a month, he's going to be out six weeks,
He's about two months, you're gonna be about two weeks. No, no,
But it's the opportunity now to get a guy in
and say do what we did how we did paina
Correa left overnight in Friendship Boom. The next year, the
(07:33):
dude's playing every day and it is a postseason hero.
So and there's something to be said for guys like
him and Cam Smith to know how to learn on
the job and adjust to it. Right now after not
playing a whole lot of Triple A baseball, meaning Painia,
there is a This isn't by chance. Oh, let's just
bring him up and pain You'll be back the day
after the All Star break and we'll get going and
(07:55):
we'll get him a few reps and then we'll send
him back down there. There's obviously planning, not that he's
going to take over pain you, but you'll find a
spot for a good player. You always find a spot
for a good player. Especially. It always tells me that
that position or a middle if you you can play
more than one position, regardless, it's a perfect time. And
you know what, what if it's a six week injury
and you need him to not just fill in but
(08:16):
kick ass, and I think that they they obviously see
something in him, as we all do, and the reason
why the guy's this kind of prospect. So yes, the
pain injury, and judging from the history of not only
the way they develop them, but the way injuries happen
here and how long they are, I would probably think,
just reading between the lines that you're not seeing pain.
(08:39):
You the series after the All Star break. If he's
not doing any upper body work, you're not seeing him.
There's no way you're seeing him. You're not hitting off
a te yet to get it shape. And I've told
you about that. Those injuries like that, it's just what
do you do other than rehab it and go them.
It's not like you're having surgery on a rib cage injury,
you know. And now it's he's got to wait it
(09:01):
out and hopefully it heals quicker. But there's no doubt
that having him up here is a part and parcel
to this injury and how long it's going to last,
and the fact that the guy's a good player and
you want to see him shine and perform. He's going
to get a chance to and I would imagine that's
going to start right away.
Speaker 8 (09:14):
Well, and it's also where you know, I was listening
to Brian mctagger estay on with Matt and Ross and
he was talking about bat wise that probably feel like
he's ready. It's defensively was a little bit of the issue.
But but I but you know what I heard that
about Cam Smith. Wow, the guy's never played a day
in right field in his life. Oh, you get a guy,
he's a left fielder or a third basement of a
(09:36):
find somewhere, and in two weeks everybody's something.
Speaker 1 (09:38):
But he's got different instincts. Oh, the guy's different. Listen,
if you're that talented and you can play an outfielder,
play third base, you could play right field if you
have an arm, all that quick twitch movement around there
and play. So it wasn't exactly even if he hadn't
played it, like, oh man, we're sending some hack out
there in right field. Manny Ramirez later in his career
(09:59):
is going from left fiel the right field. No, that
wouldn't happen. And it's the same thing here. Well defensively,
and that's a premium position, you know, when you're playing shortstop.
But do we really think that all of a sudden,
did the guy's gonna field six out of ten when
they say that, Okay, are were comparing him to Panya
and Ozzie Smith? Are we comparing them to just a
solid shortstop? And quite frankly, on this team, And in
(10:20):
this day and age, we're usually not drafting shortstops just
for glove. You're drafting shortstops that are six three two twenty,
that are six one two ten, that hit the ball
four hundred and twenty feet and can rake and also
play defense. It's like the same thing in hockey. We're
no longer drafting h five eight, five, nine hundred and
sixty pounds centers unless they're great, but they can all
(10:42):
now defend themselves. They don't need a protector. They're six
four to two twenty kicking your apps and scoring fifty goals.
Same thing here. So if he can play that position
and yes, holding down, but how are you going to
know if the defensive metrics or how good he is,
and what kind of range he has and how versatile
he is unless he's up here doing it at this
level against not only big league pitching, but also playing
(11:02):
in these games where the game moves faster than it
does at Triple A and double A and on down. Obviously,
So I when you suggested cam Smith, meaning us or anybody,
when Tucker left in the right he wasn't dead. He
put him the right field. But during spring training people
weren't talking about he was the right fielder of the future.
(11:24):
They were well, maybe third. Basically, what's the deal with Bregman.
What are we going to do there? That was the talk,
and then he goes and rakes and does it all.
Let's put him in the right field. Oh, let's keep
him in the right field. Guys like that and shortstops
and guys that can play the infield like that tell
me that they're versatile enough and played enough baseball in
(11:45):
their life to know that if they had to move.
Because he's not gonna play shortstop, right, I mean, when
when they're both healthy, he's not playing shortstop. So now
you got to get him to work. And but are
you really here for him to win a Gold Glove?
That'd be great in the next six weeks here, so
we can provide good defense. But because you got to
catch the baseball and got to get people out, no doubt.
But I want to see what the bat brings to
(12:06):
the table because right now they need that more than anything.
Speaker 8 (12:09):
Well, I mean, and it's again, I mean, you just
what with what you were getting from the guys you
called up. You appreciate what they've given you. It's just
I just feel like that you go with potential over
pretty much what you know.
Speaker 1 (12:19):
At this point.
Speaker 8 (12:20):
So that's what it seems like the Astros go with
as again reports out there that Pryce Matthews going to
get the call up with the Astros.
Speaker 1 (12:27):
We'll talk about that as the show goes along. You
want to join up?
Speaker 8 (12:30):
Seven one three, two one two five seven ninety is
the number to get in. Also, some other good news,
Christian Walker back from the paternity list, so even more
better news when it comes to this Astros lineup. But
if nothing else, are they showing that they're aware of
the situation that they're in. We'll talk about it here
as we're just getting going here on a Friday edition
(12:50):
of the Sean Salisbury Show Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (12:55):
Wear a mask, wear gloves, wear leather and check.
Speaker 4 (13:01):
Reminds me of that time I accidentally walked into an
S and M convention.
Speaker 1 (13:05):
Heyne, my back still hurts. Would be good speaking of
back pain.
Speaker 2 (13:11):
Back to former QB Sean Salisbury on Sports Talk seven ninety,
get medieval on them, shun.
Speaker 8 (13:20):
As the Rangers now in third place at nine and
a half games back of the Astros and only three
and a half games back of a wild card spot.
But SHAWNA mentioned it that the urgency and you've talked
about it all this week and even before the sweep
against the Guardians that you needed to be able to
keep this thing going. And I mean Dana Brown even
(13:42):
mentioning with you on Wednesday. You know what's the message
and the messages, you know, put on the gas pedal,
finish it off and then get your rest for a
few days and then come right back to it where
you know it's it's a sprint to the finish at
that point, if.
Speaker 1 (13:56):
They all count, should play them all the way you're
supposed to, and they're fortunate are going to come out
of this thing. Haven't you kept the lead and maybe
extended it even if they don't play well. But these
next three for their own psychological aspect, and against a rival,
you shouldn't take much or a pregame speech or warning
people about the All Star break for them to want
to play. You're at home, you're playing three games against
a rival, a team that is going to challenge you
(14:18):
for the division if they're healthy and you know, continue
to get these injuries or if there's a fall off
in this I wouldn't let it fester. I said before
the series, the last one, and I'll say it now,
going into an All Star break with one in five
with the Dodgers, nobody can. I don't care. If they're
the best team in baseball. There's no way you can
tell me that being swept back to back series isn't
(14:41):
doesn't tell you that there's concern there as town is there.
I'm sure they'll come out of it. You lose six
in a row, I don't care. If you're the best
team in baseball, you're going to go in and if
they don't perform well this weekend, you're going into the
All Star Break. If you're a Dodger, like, damn, what's
going on with us? Just enough to creep in to
bother you. And even if they keep their lead and
(15:02):
they go one in five and these last six, so
they'll say they if they lose the series and they're
one in five the last six games, well you're not
going into the All Star breaks. Say man, I love
where we are. You love the record, you love the lead,
but you don't love the way it's the performance is going.
And eventually, if it continues and you lose that edge,
(15:23):
the competitive edge, that edge that this team's had for
a year after year. Whatever you question them, they always
find a way to say, oh, of course, they're focused,
so I trust it. But just the overall human nature
part of this, you will not feel good, specially when
you continue to come back and your shortstop and your
designated hitter are still not playing. So that's something that
(15:44):
I don't think you want to come out because all
it takes is another losing series in Seattle to get
themselves right. And now the leads three and a half games,
so I would now you've got a chance to extend it.
It's not like the Mariners think what should be doing.
If you win the series or sweep at them and
the Mariners have trouble getting out of their next series,
you will have gained two or three games on both
(16:04):
teams in the division because you got the head to
head with them. And if the Mariners in a tough
series they have well, it's just that you lose the
division or all of a sudden, the second half kicks in.
They will point back to this. If they don't play
well this series and they squander it and lose this series,
they'll point back to this if this lead shrinks and
second half they come out slow and say we had
(16:27):
to do better after we swept The Dodgers don't make
a birdie against the Dodgers and then go double bogie,
double bogie. You ain't winning no tournament, So there's latitude.
But see, I've always believe when you're winning, that's a
good time to correct and getting people's ass it is
when you're losing, it's a good time to put their
arm around somebody and let them know we're going to
be okay. That's a lot of arms around the Colorado Rockies,
(16:48):
and that's a lot of once in a while keeping
your team on edge to say we're six and a
half up, we're seven and a half up. Let's get
to eight. Let's get to eight and a half. We'll
get our rest. And the rest is coming around the corner.
You're home, you're not traveling. You get to eat your
home cooking. The ballpark gets Texas. Even if you were tired,
it's the Rangers. If you were tired and worn out,
(17:08):
it's the Rangers. You don't need a red bull. That
is your red bull. So I take it serious. I'm
treating this like it's the Detroit Tigers last year in
a short series, a three gamer. The result the last
year's three game series, syenti Astro's home and I know
we're not there yet, but we are around seventy games
to go. And don't tell me psychological doesn't work, because
(17:29):
the Astros have a psychological advantage on a lot of
teams because they do exactly what they're supposed to when
people question them. This is a perfect time for them
to take care of their business against Texas and put
their foot on their throat and say, you know what,
we lost three in a row.
Speaker 8 (17:42):
We're not losing four and five in a row. And
do it against a rival. That's all the speech you need.
Let's email me too. I like to use the sports comparisons.
I mean, let's just say, worst case scenario here, you
get swept. Isn't that almost like a team that's just
been getting drubbed in the first half of a basketball game.
They've been down by twenty five, but then they go
on like a fifteen to three run right before the half,
(18:03):
and they go into the half and they say, hey,
the Worts basketball is behind us. Now we got these
guys when we want them. Don't you feel like that'd
be the Rangers coming out of this series only six
and a half games back of the Astros.
Speaker 1 (18:14):
Yeah, and they've also seen the movie where they went
and won a World Series a couple years ago, so
they understand what that feelings like too, so it's not
like they're foreign to it. And their managers won a
few himself, so that, yeah, there's no doubt.
Speaker 3 (18:27):
And like that.
Speaker 1 (18:29):
And when you're down twenty five and you close the
gap and now you're coming out in half the second half,
and we see it happen all the time. Sometimes you're
looking at it and saying, there's no way this just happened.
They came down from twenty eight and one either somebody's
gambling and throwing games, which is a joke, I mean that,
but you start to thinking, there's no way that the discrepancy.
You played that well in one half and that crappy
in the next, and vice versa. There's no way. And
(18:50):
the next thing you know, that team comes It's the
best second half comeback in franchise history. It does. But
that is what happens when the game ambling. I'm kidding about,
although the hell it does exist. Obviously we've seen it,
especially recent accusation. There's no doubt, so it but when
you when you do that come back and the other
team gets hot, you start to think, Well, don't tell
(19:12):
me that that team that went went into half with
a twenty eight point lead that got closed just before
the halftime, and then they're still down twenty and they
come out and lose by six. You can't tell me
that the run at the end of the half didn't
affect their second half. So, just for talking sake, if
the Astros got swept, I know we'll all make the Yeah,
(19:33):
but there's still six games in front of first place,
or five games or four and a half games. But
the truth of the matter is if we say that,
that's just that, that's just to what we're trying to
convince ourselves that it's going to be okay. You lose
six in a row. That you can't tell me cycle.
I don't care how good the Astros have played, how
good they're pitching is, and the history of the team.
(19:54):
I'm not worried about five years ago. Most of these
guys weren't here five years ago, on this team, this year,
this now, and you just don't want to let it
creep in. And losing six in a row, regardless of
where you are, at least gives you some latitude because
you were in first place, not last place or second
place by twelve games going into the All Star break.
But what you do now is this the doubt gets in.
(20:16):
Well that's not the Astros, of course, but this is
new got another young kid, Brian. A lot of these
guys had no idea about how the culture sustains itself
until they got in the building, and now they're being
challenged they've had It's like whoa some of these new guys.
Bryce Matthews wasn't here five years ago, so he's about
to face this too. Is high school. That's exactly right.
What a task is seat of high school? So I do,
(20:38):
and I know maybe I make a bigger deal of it.
I guess because I've seen it happen in another sport
to teams. I was on good and bad both ways,
and I can tell you this. All the tough guys
in a locker room, in a clubhouse and culture get
punched in the face a few times and lose six
in a row. You'll be tested. And you go in
there and I don't understand why you wouldn't and treat
(21:01):
this like it's a three game playoff series. It's the
people you despise, it's a team you can't stand. It's
an organization. You want to kick their ass. If you
were in last place and you were going into the
All Star Break and you were playing your rival Dodgers Giants,
and the Dodgers were in last place, not first, and
the Giants were in first, and the Dodgers were Colorado
(21:22):
Rockies out of it. Most of the athletes I know
now maybe some quit and have their golf clubs in
their trunk at the midway point. Most of the ones
I've been around would take it personal and say we're
in the last place. They're still going to be in
a fistfight. They just do. And you don't have to
save that kind of attitude, that kind of motivation for
(21:43):
September or October November. If you get into this World Series.
I'm assuming that dates go into early November again this year,
but October, you don't have to save that grind for then.
Matter of fact, not quite the opposite. You had a
long season, You've got plenty of time to rest and
gather your breath after you were intense after the the
Texas Rangers in this one. To me, these are easy
(22:05):
to get up for. If you're playing the Rockies, I
could understand why the Rockies beach two or three and
you're building the three games before the All Star break
is like, this is a joke, but you're playing the Rangers.
But if you were in last place like the Rockies
would do, or like somebody else does, or like we've
seen happen those teams who spoil it and steal a
win late in a football season to ruin home field
advantage for somebody when they're twenty point dogs or fourteen
(22:27):
point dogs. Twenty points would be college. We rarely see
that in the NFL, So it's the same thing here. Hell,
the pride in most athletes alone won't let you not
be ready for this. And it's the Rangers. It's a rival.
I would treat it like I would treat it like
the winner of this series goes to the playoffs. That's
how I would manage my team. And if I was
(22:48):
a player, that's how I play it. Short of throwing
one hundred and forty pitchers for your starting pitcher, I
just to me, if this isn't important to you, and
I'm speaking to all of base I know it's important
to the Astros. Now we'll find out how they perform.
Sometimes the other team's just better and you got to
take the l But if this isn't just as important
to you as a series in September, the series in
(23:09):
September may not matter. If you go kick the Rangers
ass and then September hell, if you got a ten
game lead September, No, they can win the series. We're
still up by nine, so it matters. And just pride alone,
I'm taking. I'm not getting knocked out by my rival,
the ones that I can't stand. If we were in
last place and we were playing UCLA and they were
in first, it wouldn't have mattered. It was UCLA. I
don't want to listen to their ass of their fan
(23:30):
base for the next year. You're not ringing that bell, right,
So they're going to get an opportunity to do it.
And I and if I was managing them and Joel
handled it, fine, I'm not. But I would play so
much urgency on this series because I had sure loved
to go into this series saying we lost and we
didn't let it faster. Now we swept the Rangers in
our building. Now we can go relax and feel good.
(23:50):
I'll see you guys after the All Star break. Well,
it's also too.
Speaker 8 (23:54):
I mean, where you've had good momentum on your side,
you can also have bad momentum on your side. And
that's what the astros are trying to discourage against and
trying to avoid. But anyway, if you want to join
us seven one three two one two five seven ninety,
again the number seven one three two one two five
seven ninety as we continue here on the Sean Salisbury
Show on a Friday Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 1 (24:16):
The seven ninety.
Speaker 8 (24:16):
Listener line in the six o'clock hour is brought to
you by one eight hundred car cash. You know, Sean,
you know, was talking about momentum a little bit before
the end of the last segments, and I mean, for
everything that's going good, you know, you're seeing the ball well,
you're hitting it well, you're fielding it well, you're doing
everything well, and then all of a sudden, something kind
of breaks the dam and it starts to change things
(24:38):
the other way a little bit. I mean, just again,
you know, getting back to the timing and making sense
of why Bryce Matthews is here. I think that again
it's a little bit of a look to Joe and
and the data and and and their conversations of saying
we've got a good thing going here. We have to
keep this going because Seattle and Texas an't going to
(24:59):
slow dow Well.
Speaker 1 (25:00):
You also know that, I mean, you want a regular
shortstop and it allows me also to move to bond
around and get the lineup that doesn't have to have
him playing that position. I mean not that he's not
good at it. This guy's at five to ten shortstop
that can hit, and he's your number one prospect in
the organization. Now the camp smith is sitting in right field.
(25:23):
It's a listen. If you have problems or injuries, it's
nice to have a guy that you trust and the
guy that you want to see can go do his thing,
and it's an opportunity. Now you find silver linings and opportunities.
And I'm not saying pain his gloves on the mound,
but when with injuries the glove is on the mountains,
Bryce Matthews has an awesome chance to go pick it up.
(25:44):
So I and I don't believe. And if you believe
in game to game momentum as a player and you're
riding on that, you're going to be awfully disappointed. Confidence,
feeling good, got my stroke right, and has been. When
that happens, you don't even want four days off. You
want to keep playing. It's like halftime, when you're going
good in the first half, going into halftimes the most
overrated thing in the world. Hell, grab me a gate
(26:04):
around the sidelines, drawn up on a boarding sidelines like
you did in high schoo Let's go play again. And
it's the same thing here. So even if they lost
six straight, does that mean they're on a bad momentum
run after the absolutely not. Confidence may be down a
little bit. Momentum in game momentum I've always said matters.
I don't believe in game to game momentum because you
can be winning ten straight and then all of a sudden,
you're facing Hunter Brown your momentum and you strike the
(26:28):
side out at the first inning. You got no more minium,
So that's it. You may still have confidence if you
go down one, two, three, but momentum for me, so
I'm not worried about Well, they don't have any momentum
going in coming out of the Ulster break they lost
six straight. If that were the case, now I'm worried
about their They start to question and self doubt creeping
in momentum because they could just soon come out and
(26:48):
win three straight. Doesn't mean they're on a momentum. Roll
means they're confident playing good baseball because they run into
a good pitching staff in Toronto or somewhere else. Guess
what that momentum cond stop. That doesn't mean after one
game you's still not confident, but one game does stop
the momentum. So yeah, there's no doubt. And I don't
think it even takes genius baseball minds to say, to
(27:10):
read between the lines, to say, or between the third
and second basement of why Bryce Matthews is here, your
short stops out. And if you were a conspiracy theorist,
or if you were just going by history like I
said earlier, and you look at you say, hmm, let
me put two and two together. Pain is hurt, not
doing any upper body work. You got your number one
(27:33):
prospect who's got the ability to rake and people love,
and it was your first what the twenty seven, twenty
eighth pick in the first round couple of years ago,
and you got him sitting there, why not let's go
and you know why the guy in front of him
is an all star? No upper body work and you've
(27:53):
got a team that's in the lead, you better find
somebody who can do that every single day in the
time being. And there's no doubt that you bring him
up here thinking him may be a little bit longer
than we expected with Pania, and if it isn't great,
it's a blessing. The guy's gonna get work while it is.
But I don't know, is it gonna be another month
forget having him down there. Get him up here and
(28:14):
learn against just like Cam Smith did against good major league,
big league pitching. And they think he's ready and hopefully
he's ready to stay. Now when Payne comes back. If
this guy's raking and then Payne, the MVP of this
team comes back, now you've got a good problem. Hell,
I don't know. If f Jordan doesn't come back and
you're wondering what's going on, Maybe once in a while,
Matthew's DHS or Paynia does too, while he's still recovering
(28:37):
from a rib cage, and maybe he's he's eighty five
percent could swing a bat, but moving when he bends
over at short stop so he can play there. I
don't know, but I know nowadays it's kind of like basketball,
the true position players. We got guys the two guard
Kevin Durant can play three positions, or stef you can
move him around. So we got a lot of you know,
we're point forwards and the rest of it. So and
(28:58):
here too, I like a team that has multiple or
that high school gid to play three sports. Wow, I'd
love six or seven players that can play multiple positions
and do it either efficiently or well or hell, you
may find out like Cam Smith, this dude's a natural
true right fielder. And I don't know, maybe all of
(29:19):
a sudden you keep out Tuova in left field and
all of a sudden Bryce Matthews becomes your second basement.
I don't know, but I do know this. It's time,
and yes, confidence matters. Self doubtle matter coming out of
this momentum to me, because are we supposed to think
that there's no momentum for the Astros. They've won their
ass off, their sixteen seventeen games over five hundred and
(29:39):
because they lost three straight, we're supposed to say no momentum.
Speaker 10 (29:43):
Now.
Speaker 1 (29:43):
They may a little self doubt right now, but this
team's been very good at getting out of self doubt quickly.
So they're not thinking, well, we don't have any momentum
going into night's series, the everything, and there's a good
chance to get right back on the train and feel
good about what we're doing. So and I believe that
that will be their approach. But this is an important
series and you got a chance. And yes, there is
(30:04):
no doubt Bryce Matthews is coming up here because Payne
ain't coming back in the next five days. See, And
that's just it. I mean, if it's it's as simple,
you don't it doesn't take much to figure that out.
You'd be an idiot not to think that, in my opinion.
And now we'll see how it works out well.
Speaker 8 (30:19):
And I mean it sounds like Matthews will be mostly
playing second, so I'd probably expect du Bond over there
at short But yeah, but why why yeah?
Speaker 1 (30:27):
Why well yeah, why why not? Why not? If he's
a shortstop and that's how I was drafted, That's why. Yeah,
du Bond's and Dubon is it just because a veteran,
he's a better glove with a veteran. The way he's
seen it, I mean, du Bond's hasn't played consistent shortstop.
He's been a fill in, So why if you're bringing
(30:47):
him up or are we afraid that he can't defend?
Is it baseball? Diamon in the same size in the
minor leagues as is now and he made very well,
you're right. I don't even know if there's if somebody
I haven't read an article. Maybe somebody did say he's
going to be the second baseman. But are we There's
no way you bring him up here without running him
out at shortstop a handful of times. Right, You're just
not gonna pencil him in a second, don't you? Or
(31:08):
un less like I said, is the future because Payne
is a shortstop. With Bryce Matthews as a shortstop, drafted
shortstop is his future in this organization to play second
base because Al two Vay's aging and his metrics don't
say his defense. Like I said, I don't know how
often is he playing shortstop in the minor leagues? I
haven't paid attention. Is how many games he's played there?
(31:29):
I don't know. Yeah, has he done the regular shortstop
in the miners? Has he been playing there every day? Second?
He's been playing second in the miners? So there you go.
But drafted is a shortstop, which is his natural position,
but the organization moved a second. Why do you think
they moved him second? Is there?
Speaker 11 (31:45):
Dan?
Speaker 1 (31:45):
He's in his what three years in the league. That's
exactly right, and he plays gold glove and he's playing well.
So do you think that highly of a guy instead
of letting him rot is a shortstop in the minor
leagues or have to trade him as an asset?
Speaker 6 (31:57):
What do you do?
Speaker 1 (31:58):
You move him to second base and put him But
at this time, wouldn't it also be smart to at
some point in time get him some run defensively at
shortstop on a night you give de bond Off or
heplace to give him some run at shortstop just in
case the injury was longer and you never know what's
gonna happen. That's just my opinion. So if he's playing
(32:19):
every day at second base, like I said, I obviously
if I don't watch minor league baseball very often unless
you go to the ballpark once in a while. But
he is, you know, drafted out you know what Nebraska
as a shortstop. Yeah, so but that tells you how
they feel about getting him in and play my best
nine all the time or eight counting the pitcher all
the time. I probably want my best out there when
(32:41):
I possibly can, and for the future of the organization
to keep in the organization and get him run and
get him to stay up very well. Second base is
obviously where he's gonna be penciled in. I just think
that with him out, I would still get him some
run at shortstop to see what we have here, because
what if he's out two months, I'm just just gonna
kill then second base. There's no rotation. He's just gonna
(33:02):
play second base, and that's it. But if that's his
answer in the and that's true too, it's smart. If
that's who he's going to be in the organization in
the long haul, which that's where he would be when
pain is healthy, then you're gonna get him there. Yet
I kind of like the challenge of getting him at
shortstop at times too, just to be a guy that
you have that you can trust offensively when there's an
injury when somebody goes out, because what happens if du
(33:24):
Bond pulls a hammy? Yeah, put him there anyway, right,
so to at least plait two and get him some
run there, because five years from now, Bryce, Bryce Matthews
and paying your both still in the organization. Guess guess what.
Guess we're Bryce is gonna plan. But who's Who's Boris
is his agent now right? You also better prepare for
(33:47):
that part too, so you might want to get him
a little run down the road. I know if that's
we're not anywhere near that yet. But if all of
a sudden pain you were to leave, who's your shortstop?
You have to believe it'd be Bryce there you go
or maybe you organized they so fine. If he's playing
second base every day, the plan is he's going to
be a future second baseman. Get him run there too,
But you're gonna mix him in at a shortstop. I
would think once in a while, just to see if
(34:10):
you know, you never know, and I think it'd be wise.
But in this series, you know, go go, you play
it to win and put your best aid out there
and let's go wherever they belong.
Speaker 8 (34:20):
Roger, see your Ronnie, excuse me, Ronnie, see you right there.
Get you involved in the conversation. And also to a
pleasant addition to the astros, we'll discuss that here on
a Friday edition of the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 1 (34:33):
Sports Talk seven to ninety. This Sean Salisbury Show continues
to Ronnie wants to get us going. Good morning, Ronnie,
Good morning, guys.
Speaker 12 (34:45):
I'm so confused about the roster. They've had to make
so many different moves. I think Matthews has played more
second than Short and sugar Land, so you know, I
don't know which one he's gonna play. But I'm wondering about,
like what happened and what happened the other night with
Jake Myers. I mean, he was it his decision to
(35:05):
try to start and they pushed him or did he
push them to let him? Come on, let me play,
let me play? And then he goes out there and
he can't do it. So what what are we going
to find out about Jake? And if he's going to
be out for a while, is Kennedy Corona still here?
And if Jake isn't going to be here, then Duvon's
going to have to play more center field than anywhere else.
(35:27):
And I still hasn't heard anything recently about McCormick, Melton
or Decenzo.
Speaker 1 (35:34):
Where are they? You know, what's what's going on with them?
Speaker 12 (35:37):
And I understand Garcia is making some rehab appearances, so
I've given you enough, you guys enough to talk about
for the next hour or so, and y'all have a
great weekend.
Speaker 1 (35:46):
Well, nobody knows about those And unfortunately we can't go.
When I interviewed Dana Brown ask injury questions for forty
seven straight, I'm with Ronnie and about this guy, this guy,
because then there would be no time for anything else
from I mean, and they talked, and I mean, when
you think about it, it is a true mash unit.
You can't even get through them all. And once again,
(36:09):
why Dana Brown doesn't. I wouldn't want to play doctor
either with him. But you're the good point, the Melton
and you know who's on second, what's on first? Type
of thing? You're you're You're exactly right, Ronnie. It makes
for a good point. I thought I saw a video
of a of the opposing teams. There are some video
of Jake Myers's lookings. I can't go. I thought, I
(36:29):
when I when I when he was standing in the outfield,
I thought, I when I looked at I, I should
have marked it and saved it. But when he was
out there doing it and hopping around, and maybe it's
like when we read somebody. He's like, did I did
I see that? Right? I thought when he when he
went back out there to look is when he said
I can't go or I can't do the whatever. And
maybe I'm wrong, but I wasn't looking for a thing.
Somebody just had it on there. I looked at I said, oh, man,
(36:51):
and it wasn't It wasn't a meme or joking around.
It was a reputable source. So I going out there
and said I can't go. And maybe after he went
out there, Ronnie, that's I don't think the team said
you can't go. Dana kind of even me, he said,
put him out there, was going to go and then
realized he couldn't go, which is just letting him know that,
you know, what are we going to do here? And
(37:11):
then I saw didn't I see his head in his
hands when he was being taken in on Was he
taken in on a cart?
Speaker 13 (37:16):
Well?
Speaker 1 (37:16):
He walked out right?
Speaker 10 (37:17):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (37:17):
At then it was taken in on a cart, right,
And I thought the picture also showed with his head
in his hands, which I always think, Man, is this
more serious? Does he think it's more serious? And then
the answer to Brian McTaggart's question makes you wonder if
or lack the right that they that maybe he feels
it's it's it's more serious, but that that's just all speculations.
(37:37):
So Ronnie, don't know, but you are one hundred percent
correct if that's the case. Now what Dubon goes to
center field, which he's played pretty well since he's been here,
and then what do you do? Well, Bryce Matthews is
your shortstop. That's why I get a little run. And
you know, as you said, he's playing more second base
in the minor league than he than he has shortstop,
although he was drafted as a shortstop. But if he's
got to play in this organization, is going to be
(37:59):
second base long pain is here, but pain's not here
right now. You got to coach the guys you have,
and so don't know, and maybe with this they do
know that Jake Myers is also going to be out
for a minute. Who knows. I'm approaching all these injuries
as lasting. It will last longer than you want, just
because it'll take away the disappointment, like anxiety and stress.
(38:19):
It is another guy, another guy, another guy. But Ronnie
with all the win McCormick and Dezenzo and Melton and
the res. I have a hunch that their answer would
be where they're they're going through their rehab and going
through it and it becomes the day to day type
thing with them. We'll see how they feel. I mean,
(38:41):
you can't get it. Take a week to get in
all the answers for the full couple paragraphs. You've got
to answer for all these guys. But they're gonna need
some bodies, and Bryce Matthews is the nearest and the
best one available, and hopefully he'll go and manifest their
belief in him. And he's got great ability. Fifty eight
games at second base, shortstop. There you go, Well that's
(39:01):
where there, that's where they're they're pinning out on the future.
Get the work in because they know that's where he's
going to be out two days aging and do bonds
versatile and pain you. But we also know that the
versatility with him, which makes it good that he can
go play shortstop in case pain is out a while
and you needed to move to bond somewhere else because
of an injury, which very well may happen too. And
(39:21):
that's just telling you they know where his future is
the middle infield to be PAINI and Bryce Matthews is
a ten a decade long infield together.
Speaker 10 (39:30):
What have you?
Speaker 1 (39:31):
As long as somebody doesn't pluck pain you too, your
ears from now or whatever it is. Yeah, well, I
mean at least there's the urgency to get it done.
I mean Dana Brown's and the trust to bring him
up here, not to pain you. Yeah, the pain you
to get that done, the urgency, but also the trust
that you know that Matthews gives us that his bat's
going to be it because a second base is a
little less demanding than shortstop, which is obvious, but the
(39:55):
production at the plate would be great.
Speaker 8 (39:57):
Well, it absolutely would be. And exactly what what is
this scouting report? Arnott, Bryce Matthews will talk about that here,
Clay and Hockley, see you're right there.
Speaker 1 (40:05):
Get you involved.

The Mariners lose to the Yankees, so the Astros come
into play seven games up on them in the West
and Bryce Matthews, according to reports, being called up to
the team. Christian Walker also back with the organization after
being away on the paternity list. Clay, get to you
on the phone line here in just a second. Seven
(43:03):
one thirty two one two five seven ninety is the
number to get in you know, Sean. I saw this
on Twitter last night and a guy named Johnny Anderson
who is scouting MLB data guy has a substack called
MLB Data Warehouse and with Bryce Matthews breaks it down.
Bryce Matthews triple a profile, lots of strikeouts, thirty percent
(43:26):
k rate, lots of walks fifteen percent based on balls,
very patient, forty one percent swing percentage, good exit velocity,
nothing elite, doesn't put anything lists the ball a lot
and also has turned into a high barrel rate, but
it it's reduced by a very high strikeout rate. So
(43:47):
I mean it kind of sounds like again you were
talking about earlier with Cam Smith. Kind of sounds like
a little bit of what we heard about Cam Smith.
Maybe not so much with the strikeouts with Smith, but
a guy that will be patient and will make a
picture work.
Speaker 1 (44:00):
Well, how do you have a high strikeout rate and
also be patient at the same time, see a lot
of pitches swing over and nothing. I guess that's fair,
which means but very patient, but very patient, but also
have a lot of but a lot of barrels. I mean,
(44:22):
it's just my point is, and I know I obviously
I know that it doesn't mean because you strike out
a lot and it's always unchasing bad pitches. The other
the picture is pretty good and a pitch and the
strike zone you might swing over, swing under. I get
it for me, though, when you listen to that, it's
almost comical. Listen to the scouting report back from twenty
five years ago. I mean they're throwing all swing rate,
(44:45):
launch angle balls instead of the guy's five tool player
if it was or what have you. Great glove, can't
go to his left as well as he does to
his right. His backhand, sensational, mid to average arm, great
bass runner, uh got pop in his bat with some power,
will strike out a lot, but also patient enough to
(45:06):
draw a hundred walks in a season. Versatile player I
can put in different positions and can hit for power
and put the ball in play. He's a two to
eighty guy his career. Think about how we're doing now.
They got going through all these numbers swing rate and
launch angle and all that and ball spate. It's like
the things we do. If you, if you're not in
the analytic world, to look at it four hundred different stats.
(45:29):
For me, I want to know, can he play middle
dfield defensively? Can he hit the baseball hard? And can
he sustain play? Can he overcome good things and bad
things equally as quick and not only what the upside does?
Is the production going to match the potential? I know
we need all those. My point is that I kind
of meet it a little, uh being facetious about it,
(45:51):
But you start to look with all these numbers. I
want can the guy hitting field and as he run
the bases and he got high baseball IQ, but we
don't do that. He was all these things. But if
I judged a player by only what you plug into
a computer, then cam Smith wouldn't be the right fielder
until you got him out there and saw the met Well,
(46:11):
damn the guy I can actually play. So yeah, it
sounds like him, and all of a sudden, man cam
Smith with those say you're talking about it sounds similar
to cam Smith. Even the negative match. It's turned out
pretty well for him so far. So I want to
know majorleague can he hit major league pitching? How's his
bat speed, and is he selective enough to lay off
bad pitches most of the time? And if they tell
(46:33):
me he barrels it up, then, and this high strikeout rate,
who cares? I guess apparently in this day and age,
I've been told all along that a strikeouts just another out.
Yet when you actually hit a ground ball and get out,
at least you're forcing the shortstop or the second baseman
to have to make a play. So that there's that.
But nowadays I don't even know why we've made it
(46:54):
a met He strikes out a lot, Oh great, doesn't everybody?
The MVP of the league strikes out all the time
and HiT's walk off home runs against Seattle and the
same in the same in the same type of game.
But we don't care anymore. So if if I'm going
by what everybody says, why would I give a fuzzy
rats ass If Bryce Matthews strikes out a lot, Oh
(47:15):
he barrels it up. Cool, it's just another That's what
I've been told. We don't bunt, we strike out a lot,
and we want we want launch angle and we want
the ball to fly out of the ballpark. Cool. Then
I should be understanding that I just want home runs.
Strike out home runs fine, and play good defense and
be selective at the plate, and the ball will go
out of the park more. I mean as I'm joking around,
But you know, we get so deep into oh my gosh.
(47:37):
And I know a lot of them bear there that fruit.
But there's a lot of things that go into a
professional athlete, and especially a baseball player with all the
things they got to do that no metric you put
on a piece of paper, and that camp Smith's got metrics,
you can't measure that. No Yale guy that did it,
or Harvard guy that's got all this and smart. And
I wish I had that ability to get all those
(47:59):
numbers because all that is his evidence. Those numbers are evidence.
And then if you're saying you don't like his stance
or how quick he is through the zone, that's not measured.
That's just with the naked eye. Well, your opinion may
be different than mine how I feel about him, but
I've been I've been told for the last handle of
years strikeouts don't matter to me. They do, but strikeouts
don't matter, so I don't really care if Bryce Young
(48:20):
Bryce Young, Yeah, he struck out a few times as
a rookie. But I don't really care if Bryce Matthews
strikes out a lot, if he's a if he reaches
the potential we think because according to this day and
age in baseball and the way we measure it, strikeouts
don't mean a hill of beans.
Speaker 8 (48:34):
Well, the problem was though, with Bryce Young, is his
strikeouts were a lot more painful.
Speaker 1 (48:38):
Uh yeah, and he got he got. He got struck
on too because he didn't the hell knocked at him.
But look, didn't he have speaking of Bryce's doesn't He's
just spelled a little different. Doesn't he have something that
you couldn't because if you just want buy the metrics,
you have trade it you to cut him after his
rookie year, right, But after all that and getting kicked
(48:59):
and being benched Frandy Dalton to do it at all
and didn't come back to the next year, Now we're
seeing something got coached. Well, now we're thin oh, Bryce
Young maybe the guy we thought he was coming out
of Alabama pretty damn good football, savant, smart guy. What
you couldn't measure is how is he going to handle
not being a star for the first time in his life?
Modern day and Alabama not being handled pretty well, got bench,
(49:21):
came back and played better. So with guys like that
in the same way, how they handle the success and
failures far more important to me than then at this
at this at this stage, apparently at least it's supposed
to be. If he strikes out a time of game,
you know, I mean, that's that's that's baseball. Now your
best hitters seem to be striking out a lot because
(49:43):
everybody wants hit the ball over the fence. So I
think the kid's got a chance to be special, and
we'll find out just how he handles the big league approach.
Speaker 8 (49:50):
Someone three two, one, two, five seven ninety the number
to get in playing hockey, wants to weigh in, Clay,
Good morning.
Speaker 13 (49:57):
Friday, guys.
Speaker 1 (49:58):
Same.
Speaker 13 (50:00):
Yeah, I'm you know, I'm I'm the opinion. I know
people you know's gonna be happy when the All Star
break gets here, But you know, you don't know who's
going to come back and how long is going to
take them to get back because uh, myers that that's
a soft tissue or you so, and people we're talking about, well,
sure they have played be well. In that case, you
just got to listen to the player. You can't really tell,
(50:22):
you know, uh, you know, imogy whether or not do
anything wrong.
Speaker 1 (50:26):
And they're not.
Speaker 13 (50:26):
So that's just strictly on the player. If he said
he's ready to go, then you know, then you just
got to take his take his uh, you know, take
his word. And they're bringing out guys. It's amazing to me.
They're bringing out guys every single night. I turned the
feed and watch the game, and I'm thinking, who's this guy?
Who's this guy? My son calls him the Sugarland the
(50:48):
Sugarland Astros now because half the guys that you know,
half the guys that are playing from now would still
if they were another sister other teams that still be
in the farm system.
Speaker 1 (50:58):
So what's amazing to me is.
Speaker 13 (51:00):
That they're still where they're they're uh, seven games out
ahead of the Mariners, and they're still what fifteen sixteen
games over five hundred. But I just don't know how
long they can sustain this and said the break it
might be a while before you get into your I
don't see you're on playing until August the earliest, you know,
(51:21):
and the Cowboy is coming with you know, Garcia and
you know in Javier and you know it's coming, and
once they get fully loaded, it's going to be you know,
it's going to be uh probably a pretty you know,
pretty magnificent sight to see because if they're own fall Fellers,
they have all their team, they should be you know,
really really mashing. But it's, like I said, it's amazing
(51:42):
to me what they've done with what they've gone so far.
I don't remember ever seeing a division leader, you know,
with this kind of injury, this kind of jury is happening,
and you know it's still winning with pretty much nothing
but minor league players.
Speaker 1 (51:57):
Yeah, I appreciately, you know, kudos to them.
Speaker 8 (52:00):
Yeah, appreciate the call. I mean in terms of the
Meyers part of it, I mean, how often are you
not going to learn your lesson? Oh hey, you know, guys,
I feel good, I feel good, and then it's all
we've got to shut them down again. Like if you've
said before, more imaging, more more checking, and you know,
dotting every eye and crossing every team when it when
it comes to injuries. I mean, you know Clay right there,
(52:22):
Sean says, well, we can count on you know, Garcia
and some of the guys coming back, can we I mean,
can you necessarily.
Speaker 1 (52:30):
Well, tell me one guy of those that you've just
named and the ones that have been named before by
Ronnie and us, tell me one of them that you
have a time frame on it. I don't have a
time frame on any of them. So what would be
you if you were managing this team or you were
on this team as a player, what would your thought
process be? Got to win without them? And they've been
(52:51):
doing it all year. Now you gotta win without paying you,
which is going to be tough. Now you may have
to win without Jake Myers and you may have to win.
Have you got one answer on the time frame on
any of the guys mentioned? That's what fifteen of them? Yeah,
name me one that you know is coming back? One
Christian Walker's back from paternity leave, right, yeah, one, Chaz,
(53:12):
I guess because he's going through Is he back? Do
you know the day? Do you know the date? No,
So we don't have there's no timetable on any of it.
Now we may be surprising four of them. We may
wake up and say, hey, I'm amazing they're all back,
and it maybe right after the All Star break. I
don't know, But you don't have a time frame. I
know where I come from. It's cornbread and chicken. But
I also know where I come from that I've been
(53:35):
taught and programmed that I'm coaching and playing with the
guys that are on the roster, hoping for my guys back,
but planning for the fact that we may not have them.
So I don't know when Garcia is. Remember when Garcia
was ahead of it was going pretty well a little
while ago, and remember he had the setback. This year,
we've come back, and then this is last year, Yeah,
(53:55):
where they have a setback right in the season. Yep,
this year. Yeah, we're in twenty twenty five and it's happened.
But we see it, well, we've seen it with yord
On the set back matter of fact, shut him down.
And so if you don't have an answer of like,
and I know you can kind of get the idea. Okay,
Chas is going through minor league rehab. Great that that's pending.
(54:16):
But just like when you get a direct deposit that's pending,
do you know the exact moment it's coming in? No,
You're like, is it tomorrow? Is it over? Ten thousand?
Speaker 13 (54:23):
Is less?
Speaker 1 (54:24):
Ten thousand, one hundred dollars and don't know, and the
pending's fine, but you don't have an answer, and neither
do I and maybe they don't either of when they're
coming back. So if I sit there and stay on
hold all the time, waiting with elevator music on, we're
going to get left behind. If I'm Bryce Matthews, I'm
treating this like I'm going to be the second baseman
the rest of the friggin year. That's how I'm treating it.
(54:45):
And I think players, when they're put more accountability and
responsibility on themselves, play better. If I'm a player on
that team, I'm approaching it like this is none of
this is temporary. It's all permanent. Let's go play like
it and then the rest is gravy when they come back. So,
and if you're a player that's been a backup, you
got some pride too, well, you want to mixture and
say no, no, no, I want to make it miserable
(55:07):
on them to get me out of the lineup. So,
but bodies are running short, and you got to You're
counting on people that you didn't have any idea you
were going to need to count on. And oh, by
the way, the stress that the pitchers are going to
have to take if the hitting doesn't consistently run is
a lot of stress and anxiety you're going to put
on them, and and obviously work you're going to put
on them to have to keep scores low if the
bats don't consistently pick up. Everything you just said was right,
(55:30):
but I also was stuck on the Alan Jackson mentioned. Right, Well,
it's that I am. I love cornbread and chicken. Who doesn't, Well,
those who don't are communists this day and age. Well,
you can't do Yeah, just a joke, it's actually true.
It wasn't a joke at all. If you don't like
corn red jigget, you're a freak communist. Right, Well, I
(55:51):
think with communism you have to kind of just take
what you get. Yeah, yeah, socialism too, But that's what
I digress. But yeah, I like cornbread and chicken, and
then you know where I come from. That's what it's
all about. Yeah, I like where you come from. Front
port sitting too. I like front porch sitting that as
well as well, back porch too. Either way, don't differentiate.
(56:11):
But I don't know if there's such. Can you have
a back porch or is it a back patio. I
guess if the porch is built or it's you're sitting
on it and look out it's like a little step up,
or it's a full wrap around porch. Well, I mean
I always have a porch. I go patio, back, porch, front.
But you could sit out the back of the rocket
chair looking out at your swimming pool, or sitting out
there with the cocktail on a on a full wrap
around porch. Yes see.
Speaker 8 (56:31):
I mean I've always kind of thought it was, like
you know, some some people call it supper, some people
call it dinner. That's what I always thought porch and
patio was. When I here in Hawaii and I think
of supper, I think I'm sitting at the last one. Okay,
I make it biblical. When I think about dinner, I'm
I'm throwing down corn bread and chicken.
Speaker 1 (56:51):
So that there you go. So, but yeah, you can't
have some back porch sitting if it's a true porch
like at my house patio, back porch, front, wrap around.
Speaker 10 (57:00):
So there you go.
Speaker 1 (57:01):
It's a billy. It's just say, it's just how you
grew up. And so but I grew up and I
like cornbread and chicken, rock and chairs, you know, the
chain hanging, a little swinging bench, you know those two.
Maybe some chimes, yeah, a little chime. Yeah. And at
this place, the problem is the chimes wouldn't quit blowing
because the wind always blows. So if you have chimes,
your house becomes a chime. But I do like the
(57:24):
sound of them. They're kind of relaxing. But if they're
going twenty four to seven, because the wind out in
the fullsher, they'll be blowing them all over the place.
So it'll be like a church, you know, when they
hit the hits the noon and you hear the church
bells right there you go, there.
Speaker 3 (57:36):
You go.
Speaker 8 (57:37):
Yeah, one way to look at it, all right. You
know we talk about it all the time that you know,
kids will say we embarrass them. What if it's the
other way around? This time we'll talk about it here
Sean Salisbury Show on a Friday Sports Talk seven to ninety.
Speaker 10 (57:51):
Oh oh have we waited for Blumming?
Speaker 1 (57:54):
Hey it's Jeff Blum You've got more Sean Salisbury to
pick up where your left off on Spokestok seven ninety
Home of your stros All right, Sean, what are you
hearing out there now?
Speaker 2 (58:12):
The Salisbury's Takeouts salsburyef Takeout on the Sean.
Speaker 8 (58:17):
Salisbury Show, and we are here on your home of
the Astros and the Rockets. Sports Tawk has seven ninety
Astros getting back in the action again tonight against the
Rangers over at dik In Park, final weekend series for
the All Star Break. Bryce Matthews expected it to be
called up to the team today and Christian Walker rejoining
(58:39):
the club from the paternity list. Sewan, I got to
believe that probably when you were growing up, house parties
were a thing, and even in college. I mean, what's
the last house party you went to?
Speaker 1 (58:50):
Yeah? Son, Now we're talking about house parties. That a
friend inviting twenty five people over to his house for
New Year's Eve two years ago, not this past one
of one of my best friends in town New Year's
Eve at their place or or I take it back
to mother, probably this year would have been I guess
(59:14):
it was. Was it New Year's or was it Christmas?
It would have been at his house. Here a house party.
And I've had a couple of my house on Saturday
college football where twenty people have come over and we
cater food and stuff. A couple of times. So I've
heard of that food. Yeah, so, well that that or
but a big one. And then in college, I mean
(59:35):
obviously it was in a house party. That's not even
just a fraternity or sorority party, just a you know,
at your apartment where it's going. Yeah. I don't know
why we don't do that. We need those more. I
think house parties on New Year's Eve are better than
going to a bar.
Speaker 8 (59:47):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (59:47):
So that there my buddy John's place in their house.
They're always so kind with their time, and you know,
you eat great food and then you come back the
next day a lot of times and you watch you know, games,
and you're eating brunch and stuff.
Speaker 6 (59:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:00:00):
Yeah, so it would be with their great family.
Speaker 8 (01:00:02):
Well, I mean maybe as we get older we call
those get togethers. But if you're wondering where house parties
have gone triple e, I'm sorry, blame gen Z.
Speaker 6 (01:00:12):
Oh.
Speaker 8 (01:00:12):
Yes, so the gen Z's latest Victim series is something
that Barstool is doing. In the latest Victim house Parties,
a girl named Megan Murphy on Twitter with the caption
this is the saddest thing I've ever read. It was
a kid on Instagram with a picture of some sort
of nineties movie and I love the nineties and two
(01:00:35):
thousands movies so much. And all the teen movies have
these scenes of house parties. They look so fun. I'm
gen z and have never been to anything like this.
So was this a thing that just doesn't happen anymore?
Or is this just Hollywood trying to make me hate
my life more?
Speaker 1 (01:00:54):
I are j I don't know gen z's are unless
it's a video game playing video games at some with
your buddy, but you do that online with a headset on.
I don't know, do do gen zs even think about
that stuff? And do gen zs are they? They're not
even having kids, so you're gonna lose families? Are gonna
stop to mean, it's just gonna be Hey, they're thirty,
(01:01:16):
Well how can we have one million less or two hundred,
one hundred and fifty less million babies? And because well
they're just kind of doing their thing. Oh I've been,
I got I got three. I mean, well they're not,
are they? What's the age limit? What's the age of
gen zh what to what? Yeah, I'd have to look
(01:01:38):
that up. I mean always talking about twenties to mid thirties.
Are we talking about twenty because I think I think
I was on the back end of millennials. So it
says gen Z is typically first to individuals born between
nineteen ninety seven and twenty twelve, so that ranges between
thirteen and twenty eight. Okay, so ninety seven and twenty twelve,
(01:01:58):
So what's the one before them? That's millennials? Okay, So
so if my three kids are ninety six ninety well,
let's see you said ninety seven and later. So if
my kids are ninety one, ninety three, and ninety six,
that puts them all in the millennial category. You got
to say, I think ninety one and ninety three would
(01:02:20):
be all right, yeah, yeah, ninety seventy, So they're all
in the same category. Okay, So the gen Z and
I'm kidding about but they're having less babies, aren't they doing.
I mean there's kind of yeah, they're just and I'm not.
But life is demanded that these guys that gen Z
has less attention span because they want their stuff from
quick videos. And you know, they got influencers now that
(01:02:41):
are more popular than journalists we got. I mean, you
can get rich playing video games and you can get
rich influence it's it's crazy how it's changed. And I
don't hate them for getting paid at all do it.
But as far as the fun house price, they're right.
I can just tell you this. Gen Zs are not
having as much fun as house parties and the seventies music.
They're just not. They're not because and again and I
(01:03:02):
got it, and don't think your parents just so gen
z ers, though, didn't have fun and don't know the
drugs that you're doing it. They invented them, okay, and
the party and they did they And I'm not talking
about the stuff that that we're seeing that the guys
that are getting in trouble for some of this. I'm
just talking about good, healthy, fun house parties where you're
(01:03:23):
just rocking with great music. Yeah, it's different, and I'm
sure gen Z's are having plenty of fun. But I
almost feel am I right about this? And I don't
mean this disrespectful. Is it a more selfish generation? Is
that fair? Is that fair?
Speaker 11 (01:03:37):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:03:38):
A little more title selfish And and I think we've
all created that for them, unfortunately and made it. I mean,
but there's a little different approach and tell how I mean,
how things are done. It just in sports everything. It's
not just society. So yeah, I think gen zs are
probably missing out. It'd be pretty cool if they if
they threw some more house parties, and if they want to,
it's real easy start them. Matter of fact, a good
(01:04:00):
way to start a business the gen Z house party
busines where you're throwing you're you're the one who's the
concierge to throw house parties for them. I used to
throw them. I mean, I think they're awesome, and then
the neighbors told on me. So and that's another problem.
If you live next to a bunch of stiffs that
are mad on the front. Now, if it's Wednesday night,
you're those cars are coming from right right. I want
you find your own business. So it could be a
(01:04:21):
little irritating if you're doing it three times a week Wednesday,
Thursday and Monday on a non holiday, it's like, and
you're your Moses. I can see the walls of your
house thumping with music and you got to get up
at three thirty. But I'm not a humbug, so I
you know, let it go all. Just turn my TV
up and sleep with that on. But yeah, I don't
know why they don't have more house parties. It's a
way to get all your best It was a way
to get all the people you actually liked in one place,
(01:04:45):
as opposed to show up to a bar and you
hate ninety eight percent of them. It's the two percent
you and two of your buddies. So and then you're
dealing with all that ca I think house parties are
underrated and always have been.
Speaker 8 (01:04:55):
Somebody responded to Megan parties are boring. A bunch of
people standing around drinking. What's fun about that?
Speaker 1 (01:05:01):
Well, that's now that's if you then you're hanging around
a bunch of people who don't know how to party. Yeah,
they don't know how to party. House parties can be
a hell of a lot of fun. And if sitting around, yeah,
if you're putting a sport coat and tie on and
it's some let's go. Yes, house parties are different. You
don't having fun and grown adults don't how to push
back at Jamison shot too. Trust me, so matter of fact,
(01:05:23):
I'll like I've always said, give me five of my
best friends that are in their fifties, and you take
five of your friends that are in there. I've tried
it with my kids in college. I said, I'll take
my buddies, the old cagy veterans against you. You want
to have a drink and not I don't promote this,
but you know how you have fun with your you
of age kids. You want to have a contest. We'll
see who's standing by the end of the night. And
(01:05:44):
you know who's usually ends up standing, you guys. The
old man or old woman's strength. And don't kid yourself,
it ain't just men. Those are the older school women
can pop in there and outlast everybody on a house party.
Speaker 8 (01:05:58):
That was my buddy Alec had a a good theory
about tailgate parties and parents weekends is that it's just
everybody wanting to be back in college again. That's what
tailgate parties are, right, And then they involve you in
chugging beer and all that. Yeah, and when you bury
the field other than your own son, you know, it's like, oh, yeah,
so we've built up an immunity system that can handle
(01:06:22):
all that. So but yeah, gen Z, you need to
if you're get a party, house parties are pretty cool,
and I think you then you get to be selective
of who you want to hang around. That was a
bonding moment for me and my older brother. It was
the first time I ever got drunk with them, and
we had to take a cab back home because this
is before ubers and everything, which just shows you how
far away it is. And uh yeah, that was like
kind of a all right, hey, you know I party,
(01:06:44):
you party. Now, we know I could tell I'm gonna
go out. I'll tell you something. It's not hot take.
Speaker 1 (01:06:49):
I believe I'd rather have a house party with twenty
of my favorite people than go to a bar on
any on any night, easily, and that not even close
new bar. I don't care. I give me a house
party with twenty or twenty five people I like being
around and can control keys and keep them, let them
(01:07:09):
all those things that go with safety but also fun.
And you have nobody's gonna sell you out to a buddy.
We're all going to sell you out together when we
see it again. If you fell out drunk and we're
on the golf course the next day, of course, but
among us, it's among friends, you take care of it
and you don't have to deal with all the nonsense. Bar. Yeah,
I could throw you a far better house party than
I can a bar party.
Speaker 8 (01:07:29):
So going to Atlanta, hanging out with friends this weekend
before next week All Star game SEC and one of
my buddies goes, yeah, Hey, we're gonna go out the
Buckhead and I said, no, we're not.
Speaker 1 (01:07:37):
I said you might, I will not. And it's fun
nice to mix in a bar and get out. And
that'd be a herd. If you're saying, Sean, you have
the one big party, what do you want to do
You want to rent out a place at a bar
and leave it open, or do you want to invite
thirty of your favorite people to your house or to
a house party? Give me the house party or fifty
of them let's go. And the thing and the funny
thing is is like we've tried to tell them. It's like, dude,
you're married with kids. That's the whole thing of getting
(01:07:59):
away from that. You think you want that life again,
but remember how that was right. See, and if you
invite the people you like and he gets out of hand,
you can whoop his ass and you're still friends the
next day and nobody goes to jail. If you whoop
a guy, you know somebody gets out of hand and
embarrassing your lady happen to Yeah, yeah, a few of those.
It's like you can you can control the environment, and
it's a lot more. Plus the music they start thinking
(01:08:22):
with the good ass music, all of it. Yeah, house
parties blow bars away and always will. Gen Z Maybe
you smart gen z er is out there that know
how to do this, Start planning them and turn yourself
into a million dollar, multi million dollar business, because house
parties will make a comeback when somebody wakes up one
dan and says these aren't just reserved for nineteen eighty,
(01:08:43):
nineteen ninety or two thousand or nineteen seventy five. Yes,
so house parties could come back then, why wouldn't they?
Why wouldn't they? Matter of fact, there a house party
with the garage band playing for you. If they're any good,
maybe all American rejects will show up all about the
house party. That's why I like July four reunion. House
(01:09:03):
house parties at your house in July, when everybody's there,
an indoor outdoor swimming, a swim up bar. That's the
party that I want at my house. I'm with you, man,
Plenty of good times for sure, and more to be had.
Speaker 8 (01:09:16):
All right, let's get back into the astros conversation because
this guy coming back, what a pleasant sight it is
to see.
Speaker 1 (01:09:22):
We'll talk about it here.
Speaker 8 (01:09:23):
It is Sean Salisbury Show on a Friday Sports Talk
seven ninety the seven o'clock hour, seven ninety listener line
is presented by one eight hundred car Cash. A couple
of weeks ago, what do you think your reaction would
have been where I said, welcome back Christian Walker.
Speaker 1 (01:09:41):
Coming from you, Yeah, I would have think it would
have been emphatic because of his success recently and the
fact that it his performance had you bothered. So I
would think that I would have said, if you'd just
saided a couple of weeks I said, well, you know,
going to say it tomorrow because of his struggle. But
(01:10:02):
I would have said that you'd have been enthusiastic and
over zealous about him playing well because of the way
it started for him this year. The inconsistent part.
Speaker 8 (01:10:11):
Of it, see, and that's the part of it too,
is that you know, it was never a you know, man,
you can't play this guy. It was for me it was, well,
you just you can't play him where you're playing him
right now because what you're hitting it right?
Speaker 1 (01:10:24):
Yeah?
Speaker 13 (01:10:25):
No?
Speaker 1 (01:10:25):
I yeah, And and he's he's the last two series
he's been on fire, and but two that you had
said statistically he dominated his whole career, didn't Steve Sparks say,
nobody's hit better in Dodger Stadium in the career than him,
and against the Dodgers.
Speaker 8 (01:10:43):
Of his last eight games that he homered there. Yeah,
so twice this weekend. Oh yeah, And I would imagine
it's last great for you. And if he comes out
at home and continues this, then you may see the
turnaround of a season. And don't think for him the
momentum getting back and saying, man, when we talk about
but in game momentum is him and his confidence growing,
saying if he goes and rakes these three games, think
(01:11:05):
about how excited he's going to be, not only that
he's got a new baby at home, but also coming
out of this that, Okay, now I'm starting to feel
like I have and I'm getting back to the way
swinging the bat the way I want to. It'll matter
for sixty four in his last six games, and he
also had two home runs eight runs batted in during
that time. And I mean, when you've been really needing
offense at certain times, this is a welcome edition.
Speaker 1 (01:11:29):
Oh there's no question about it, and it's gonna be
He's gonna be needed even more with the pain you
sidelined and a possible another rookie you know around the
infield to play. He's gonna they're gonna call on him
and Yiner Diaz still trying to find his way and
not chase bad pitches, Christian Walker may have to load
him up and continue to drive the ball. They're gonna
(01:11:50):
need his run production wherever they put him in the
lineup for sure, and especially too.
Speaker 8 (01:11:56):
I mean you bring up Bryce Matthew, you see what
he's got and you know, just trying to be able
to make sure you hold off the Rangers. Seb one three, two, one,
two five, seven ninety is the number to get in
see a couple of you on the phone lines. Get
to you all here in just a second. But also
to speaking of those Rangers, I mean, we know how
much they dislike these astros, and now they're looking to
(01:12:18):
show just how much even more. We'll talk about it here.
It is Sean Salisbury Show, Sports Talk seven to ninety.
Speaker 1 (01:12:23):
Jbarn Barbecue Jbarnbarbecue dot Com twenty two to oh one
Leland Street, and we got a weekend series against the
uh Rangers. That place should be packed and the food's
gonna be flowing and good cold drinks right there. You
don't need to make reservations, no phone number needed, twenty
two oh one Leland and uh Dyke and Park will
(01:12:45):
be filled up this weekend as it should be. And
so your pregame head over there, you get pre and posts.
You're gonna get this weather, and you got TV outdoors
you can watch it or walk over the ballpark and
come back after as well. The one thing's for sure,
the customer service you were it will be epic, the
food will be off the charts, and the indoor outdoor
venue with parking will be as good as it gets. So,
(01:13:08):
whether there's an event going on at the Convention Center,
Nike and Park or Toyota Center, whether there's not far
and wide, you're coming to jar Barbecue y well, because
the food's awesome and that's where it starts and everything
else falls into place. Indoor outdoor phenomenon. If you want
to throw a party, it holds up to what three
hundred people be pretty cool. But if you want great
food and great customer service, that's where it starts. Jbarn
(01:13:28):
Barbecue twenty two o one Leland Street, Jbarnbarbecue dot Com.
Speaker 4 (01:13:34):
We want to win, Sean Salisbury continues on seven ninety.
Speaker 8 (01:13:38):
Both of them have kind of been jocking for third
and fourth the better part of this season. But I mean,
you've got a veteran manager over there, you've got a
really good pitching staff, and you're gonna see three really
good pitchers this weekend. And lighter to Gram and then
Involvede on Sunday that this is a Rangers team that
I guarantee you looks at this series and said, we
can put a dent into these and we can also
(01:14:01):
let them know we're not that far behind them in
the rear view mirror.
Speaker 1 (01:14:04):
Treat it like the playoffs. Simple, treat it like the playoffs.
And that doesn't mean all hands on deck to wear
somebody out for the second half of the season. That
means you're playing your people. You're playing obviously, you always
play to win it, you're not playing not to but
you do whatever it takes short of you know, like
I said, you're starting pitchers not throwing one hundred and
(01:14:26):
twenty pitches, but you get people in there you use
your best and you go win the series and treat
it like a playoff because it may come down to
this and although your lead's fairly first half comfortable, I've
seen the movie too many times in pro baseball. I
hopefully it won't happen here where you get chased down.
So I like teams that stay on edge. I like
teams that stay competitive, and these three can compete and
(01:14:49):
hard in this and playing these three as if they're
a playoff series. You go to the All Star break,
you come back out, and more so than just winning this,
it's also proving that you can overcome what I don't know,
have they had a three game losing streak all year
long other than this one did.
Speaker 8 (01:15:04):
Yeah, they got swept earlier in the year beginning of
the year. Yeah, it was second second series against the Giants.
Speaker 1 (01:15:10):
There you go so two times and they overcome that
pretty well and then have been on a damn good role.
So the point being is they don't let one time
happened two or three times. And that's a good place
to do it. Because this team, I would imagine Bruce
Bochi's going to have this team ready to go and
with a chance to say we come out of this
and take all three. Now look, now take a look,
(01:15:31):
it's not as that ceiling is not as high to
chase down. And I if you're the Astros, what a
great opportunity to kick the ass of your arrival and
take care of your business, but more importantly proving to yourselves,
meaning them, that we don't lose two series in a
row and especially get swept, and it'd be it'd be awesome,
I would hope, and I would think that that's the
(01:15:52):
approach they're going to take your plan to treat it
like a playoffs series. I would it's my rival and
they shouldn't have to take a speech to do it well.
Speaker 8 (01:15:59):
And that was the problem is that you ran into
early last year too. I mean, because you get swept
in Chicago. It's the Cubs get swept against the Royals,
the Braves came here to town. They did it to
you the Yankees to start off the season. I mean
it was almost in April and May last year where
it was, oh, they just lost a series again, No,
they got swept.
Speaker 1 (01:16:16):
Yeah, that's a bad word when it comes to being
on the wrong half of it. I would expect this
team to come out smoke. If it didn't matter, Christian
Walker would have waited till after the All Star break
to come back to say I need three more days
or what have you. He would have done. It matters
to him. He knows the role. These guys understand the
importance of getting back. It's three games, it matters. If
(01:16:38):
you don't win the series doesn't mean no, that doesn't
mean the seasons over. We're all programmed that. When you
say these are must wins, people on that as well.
If they're mustlans, what if they lose? You know, are
they going to have psychological they're going to be like
they're not going to be able to overcome it. No,
athletes don't think like that. Matter of fact, we panic
far more than they do in a winning streak where
celebrate more. In a losing streak, we panic more. We
all do. But this is not a pan thing. But
(01:17:01):
athletes know that you set your mind to, you go
win it. And if you don't win the series, then
you've got to regear up for the reasons why. Ask
the questions why, and then you'll find the answers to
the test. When you know the conflict. The conflict here
is you got a rival that if they come in
here and take care of their business, they directly impact.
They ain't relying on anybody else these three games, and
you don't have to either. Well in the count.
Speaker 8 (01:17:22):
Compound problems even more is, yes, you get the All
Star break, that's nice, but then you start off in
Seattle against the Mariners, a place that you've struggled to
score runs at.
Speaker 1 (01:17:31):
So it's not a good place to be if that's
the case. Okay, And is it a three or four
gamer coming out of it? Three games Friday, Saturday Sunday, right, yeah,
because they come back on Friday, no Thursday games when
you come out of the All Star breaks, so Friday,
Saturday Sunday. Now do the math. If they struggle in
both this one and that series coming out of it,
the goodwill goes away and now it becomes a fist
fight the whole season longing go. And it's in your position,
(01:17:55):
meaning the ass would be nice to have a ten
game where you could pillow fight a series or two, right,
but it's a fistfight, and this one is where it starts,
and these next six games you do not have the
motivation is sitting there right in your own division.
Speaker 8 (01:18:08):
Well, I mean, because you want to be in the
situation that you're in currently where it's, hey, we got swept.
That sucks, but you know what, it's just part of
the baseball season. Whereas, oh, we got swept again, like that,
that's where that starts to creep in a little bit
of ooh, maybe maybe this thing is kind of starting
to unravel.
Speaker 1 (01:18:25):
All right, And not only that in these next two series,
a sweep or losing the series. It's not like, you know,
the Colorado Rockies beat you and then all of a
sudden the Texas Rangers got swept too, So then gaining
grat these are these next six games are directly related
to you. So the win is an automatic loss and
is an automatic drop in the division and you get
(01:18:47):
closer to the guys below you.
Speaker 8 (01:18:48):
Well, I mean, and that's you know, the Cleveland sweep
was kind of a little bit of looking in a
reverse mirror from last year where you were the Guardians
last year like that, that was exactly what the Astros
were going through. And we're saying, man, you got to
pick up sweeps plural in order to get back into
this thing. So who knows, maybe that gets them going.
But for the astros. You want to try to get
(01:19:09):
things back on track. Ray Memorial wants to weigh in.
Speaker 14 (01:19:12):
Good morning, Ray, Hey, good morning, Hey, good morning showing
out you.
Speaker 1 (01:19:16):
Doing doing well. Ray, good to hear from you.
Speaker 14 (01:19:19):
Oh yeah, same here. I just had a couple of
comments and I'll hang up and listen as far as
the astros go, though. But I was hearing something the
other day about the injuries. I don't I don't know
they were. They were saying maybe like the training staff,
but I don't know who you basically who you blame,
like because I know the injuries and they're bringing them
(01:19:41):
back too soon or or they're not they're misdiagnosing the
injuries where they're they're saying one thing and then it's
coming back two weeks later. Oh it's a it's a
fracture and they're out for they're on a sixty day deal.
I don't know who you blame. I don't and it's
just man. They was mentioning another day on the radio
and I was listening to like like like, who's a blame?
(01:20:04):
Do you do you fire the do you fire the
training staff?
Speaker 1 (01:20:07):
I don't know.
Speaker 14 (01:20:08):
I don't know on that, but I and it's crazy.
I want to know hear what you guys have to
say on that. I did have a Texans question. I
know you guys are not talking about it, but I
just had to ask Sean.
Speaker 13 (01:20:19):
What did he thought about it?
Speaker 14 (01:20:20):
If you mind, if you don't mind me asking, no.
Speaker 1 (01:20:23):
Have at it, man, what's up?
Speaker 14 (01:20:26):
I was looking at Pro Football Focused and they have
the uh secondary rankings coming into the football season. I
don't they have the Texans secondary ranked fourth, and and
get get this in at the teams that are ranked
ahead of them, Baltimore, Kansas City and then and I
(01:20:48):
don't know how Kansas City is the second ranked the
second best secondary in the NFL.
Speaker 10 (01:20:53):
But I don't know.
Speaker 14 (01:20:55):
I just want to hear the experts on SHO you guys,
what you guys have to say about it. So it
is good here from your brother, man, it's been a while,
and talk to you guys later.
Speaker 13 (01:21:04):
Right.
Speaker 1 (01:21:04):
Good to hear from Hope you're doing well, man. Always
nice to hear you back on the show. Here's what Ray.
First off, and I have a lot of respect for
Pro Football Focus, but they rank it different than maybe
you and I are a naked eye test. I think
the Texans are going to be a top five defense,
and I think they have the best young secondary in
the NFL. I do, and has nothing to do with here.
(01:21:24):
I mean, it has to do with just watching them.
You know how impactful two rookies have been on their
front roster and maybe that's it, you know, the second
year coming back at safety and at corner, and then
all of a sudden, you know you've got the highest
paid corner in the league. Now, I mean, there's expectations,
but they performed, they reached their potential, and they're only
(01:21:44):
going to get better. I'm convinced, and Ray, to be honest,
I don't really care, and I like Pro Football Focus.
They had some really good stuff, but they judge their
metrics are different than the ESPN's quarterback rankings for their quarterback.
They just it's different. But I know the naked eye
tells me and watching that this secondary is definitely top five.
I would have him higher as well. And the reason
(01:22:06):
why Kansas City and in truth, Ray, if we look deeper,
the Kansasity Chiefs defense has been the reason they've been
carried during the regular season. The last two years, it
has been all defense, So I think there probably we
get so caught up in the Kansasity offense, we forget
that their defense has been stellar for them for two
straight years with Spagnolo, and their secondary has been outstanding.
And according to Pro Football and whatever criteria they have
(01:22:28):
to rank dbs, you know, and they do a lot
of different stuff, it'll be different. There'll be somebody else
who ranks the Texans as the second best or the
first best. All four of them are good for my
money young, and I guess I want to see it again,
but the way they're being coached and the way they're playing,
that secondary takes a back seat to nobody, regardless the
Pro Football Focus having them fourth doesn't matter to me
(01:22:49):
because it's different. My criteria may be different than theirs,
as yours Israe. But the eye test tells you alone
that this is a top notch secondary in football. And now, hey,
they may be fourth now two weeks into the season,
and let's see how Pro Football Focus ranks them as
they continue to roll.
Speaker 8 (01:23:04):
I mean, and again, you know I've mentioned this before,
a Pro Football Focus, I just don't even know what
their work is the.
Speaker 1 (01:23:09):
Criteria I don't and I and if you ask them,
they'll tell you. But I don't know how they're ranking DB's.
Is it how they get out of how many corners
in on tackles? How are your ranking? Is it?
Speaker 10 (01:23:20):
Is it?
Speaker 1 (01:23:21):
You know, how you play the ball in the air?
How many guys get caught, you know, with the attempts
thrown to them or targets? How many of them they catch?
How many you break down? I mean, does it work
in your favor if a guy throws a curl route
to him and you're not in position, but the guy
drops the ball. Is that favorable to the defense or
is it or is it a mark down? I don't
know how they do it. That's why it's an opinion,
and it's their metrics. The truth is, we'll see the production,
(01:23:44):
and we saw the production. This is just potential. The
production last year told you. And remember two of those
guys starting in the secondary were rookies. Two of them
lass and rookies. It's still approven a little and and
a full healthy Petrie mixed in with the secondary and
guy from New Orleans and Philly and and in the
way Stingley's played. Yeah, I'm not real worried about where
(01:24:07):
they have, but I get what Ray's saying and Ray.
They're gonna say, hell, I saw one that had Stroud
in the top ten rank quarterbacks, and I saw another
one that he wasn't in the top ten. That he
wasn't in the top ten. They have somebody ranking, and
I say, you're to listen. I don't think at this
stage of the game you can rank. You know, as
much as I like Jordan Love, I can't take Jordan
(01:24:28):
Love over C. J. Stroud right now, even though Jordan
Jordan Love's a good player, but right now I think
Stroud's the better player. But it goes back to your opinion.
You may have him the eighth ranked quarterback. I may
have him fifth.
Speaker 8 (01:24:39):
It doesn't really matter. It's all the production that happens
this season. It's right up there with Mount Rushmore season.
The list and I can't stand it. No, you know,
I like lists when they're not supposed to have. It's
like flowers deliver flowers except on validae if that's the
only day. It's generic, and it's it's kind of lazy.
Speaker 1 (01:24:56):
But we we do have lists come out because we
want to know, just like college, we who the ranked
teams are and who the rank it is. But everybody
has their own CRCT here. It's really not that big
a deal. I care more about what they do when
the season starts as opposed to how we feel about
them in June or July or August. I want to
see them on a field, and.
Speaker 8 (01:25:13):
Ray brought up a good point that I do want
to carry over, so we'll do that here to start
our number three on the Shawn Salisbury Shows, we continue
the Astros discussion here on a Friday, Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (01:25:24):
A Houston AD two Houston, an iHeart radio station.
Speaker 6 (01:25:30):
And the Rocket.
Speaker 2 (01:25:32):
This is Sports Talk seven ninety your home for your
home teams from the Parsons that Matchine next studios.
Speaker 1 (01:25:42):
Saulsbury, Salisbury, Houston.
Speaker 3 (01:25:47):
Okay, let's do this.
Speaker 4 (01:25:49):
Sean Salisbury.
Speaker 3 (01:25:52):
To usc true longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 4 (01:25:55):
Dan matthewscues. This is the Shawn Salsow Pryce Matthews getting
the call up to the majors. According to reports, Christian
Walker also back from the paternity list, and good news
for the Astros. They interplay tonight, seven games up on
the Mariners because Seattle gets swept by the Yankees six'
(01:26:17):
five loss and extras yesterday and doesn't get any easier for.
Him they're now In detroit taking on The.
Speaker 8 (01:26:23):
Tigers someone three, two, one, two, five seven ninety is
the number to get in. Sean you, know it is
one of those things that kind of is a topic
that goes on at nauseum for, some BUT i mean
it is one that continues to. Persist And Chandler rome
our good. Buddy he joins THE a team every single,
week and he was in With adam yesterday on the off,
Day AND i also listened to his podcast too that
(01:26:46):
he does With Tyler, stafford and they talked about this
very thing with, injuries where it comes to there's a
lot of different questions that are being, asked where, all,
right the guy's. Injured we know that that's the. Given
it's just kind of like the problem solved that goes
from there of is there a disconnect for why you're
bringing them back or you're rushing them back too? Soon
(01:27:07):
who made the decision to bring them back too? Soon
all of those different. Things and we talked about a
little bit yesterday where it's this is something you have
to take a look at over the, offseason And chandler's
POINT i thought was valid where it was timelines changed
all the. Time that's not just an astros. Problem we
see it all throughout baseball where you think you're going
to get somebody. Back BUT i think just with the,
ASTROS i, mean is it more or less just an issue.
Speaker 6 (01:27:29):
Of you, know we we.
Speaker 8 (01:27:31):
Perceive you know When Dana brown says soon for that
to mean that all, right well then that means they're
back here in a handful of.
Speaker 1 (01:27:38):
Games, yeah it's simply semantics and verbiage and. Communication and you,
Know i'll say it again In Chador roam basically by,
saying you know that you know, time timelines change all the.
Time he's exactly. Right it's the same as it, says
no different in most cities and, sports everybody's got a
bitch and a complaint because we'll see now some mate
(01:28:01):
verbalize it and communicate a little bit. Better you, know
if you know a guy's going to be out two
months and stay of saying well it's day to, day
you could, say, well don't expect him back for a,
month AND i think that we're you, know you get
to a point like let's just USE paini as, example
if he's not doing any upper body work to say
it's day to, day it's not. True i'm not saying
they're saying, it but somebody who tell you it's, no
it's not day to. Day you could say that about
(01:28:23):
a guy that's two months. Away it's day to day
because you're rehabbing and you've had your surreal of, course
it's day to. Day it's day to day how he
feels every day to take the next, level to rehab
to the next level With, PANIA i, mean if you
know he's going to be out Till, august tell us
and if he gets back, sooner we're. Excited if you
tell me, august if you say well soon and he
gets back in the middle Of, august we're going to,
(01:28:45):
say what the hell does soon? Mean so that's. It
it's how we perceive. It it's the history of it
here and The Kyle tucker thing expanded that. Thought they started,
like what why is this? Happening it's not a, Bruise
it's not a, bruise not a, bruise not a, confusion
and it Wasn't SO i think that's, it but it's
it's not new in, sports and it's not new in timeline,
(01:29:07):
changes and it's not new with protecting the injury and
not saying much and be. Noncommunicative that's nothing. New how
we accept it and how we choose to accept and
how we perceive it it's not new. Either but it
all comes down TO i think if all of us
got to the point, where oh it may minimum of two.
Weeks the problem is If Dana brown is telling us
(01:29:29):
what he knows and what they're what they're the doctors
or somebody telling, him what is he supposed to? Do
is he supposed?
Speaker 11 (01:29:37):
Now?
Speaker 1 (01:29:37):
Right it's how it's. Communicated it's. Bothersome it's not the
fact that somebody's Hurt Dana brown's. Fault That Jeremy paine is. Hurt,
now it also Not Dana brown's. Fault if somebody is,
MISDIAGNOSING i don't know if that's the. Case that's something
that they're going to need to look. Into are our
doctors doing us is? It are they doing it the right?
Way i'm assuming the astros think they. Are is the rehab?
(01:29:58):
Working are we doing the right whatever it is that
you that people question for us here and people when
they hear it from the general manager or somebody else
or the, manager we know it's. Guarded it gets to
the points like, oh here we go, again and you
just expect. It but it's that that's not, new and
it's that happens in all. Cities it's just because there's
(01:30:21):
been an extraordinary amount of. Injuries we've been stung by
some that we thought were gonna be back quicker and
it's taken a, longer, like, oh, yeah he's a little,
Sore we're going for further. Evaluation then you wake up
the next day and he's out for the, season which
is why we, Think, nah don't See jordon Until. September
which is why you don't, think, Oh, pina he's out Till,
august because you know not doing. It but we start
(01:30:42):
to how we AND i do it all the. Time,
hamstring soft, tissue pull or? Strain, okay is? IT i
asked the same thing To Dana brown About. Jordon is
it soft tissue or is it? Structural, well apparently it's,
structural so and but at the Time data said. IT
i don't Think dana knew that it was structural and
(01:31:02):
was lying to us to say it's soft. Tissue he.
Didn't he's just to take the, bar Right and if
a doctor is telling you it is soft, tissue what
are you supposed to do call him a. Liar So
i'm Sure dana's frustration with what he gets at times
is probably but he you know who pays, him The Houston,
astros not you and. Me so he's got to follow
(01:31:23):
the way the. Organization this is the way they do,
things and it's it's. FRUSTRATING i think the one thing
that would solve it all is air on the side
of just if if you know a guy's out for a,
month say if we get him back sooner than a,
month we'll be. Grateful then we'd, thought, okay, Cool then
we're going to, wonder, damn what's going? On what's The
rehabit IS i pain tolerance that it's just the, semantics
(01:31:47):
the verbiage, used our anticipation of what's going to. Happen
and you've been stung by it. Before so now we
assume if a guy's got a, hangnail that he's going
to be out three. Weeks, WELL i, mean and it's
AND i get.
Speaker 8 (01:31:58):
It there's no better evidence than what we saw the
other night from you mentioned The Jake myers quote where
he was asked by you, Know brian. McTaggart we looked
over to one of THE astros representatives there and, said
CAN i answer?
Speaker 1 (01:32:11):
That that's all you need to? Know there's marching, orders,
right and it's and they don't just exist for the,
player they exist for anybody who's going to be addressing the.
Media is it all? Right because my response would have, been,
Well i'm sore as hell and hopefully i'll get BUT
i don't. KNOW i really don't know the answer because
the second you look at it's like when somebody says
no comment or you plead the fifth when you're talking
(01:32:35):
about if a president was actually running the country or
was too whacked out not. To so WOULD i say no?
Comment if somebody says no comment on a controversial, question
you pretty much answered my. Question so if you don't
want to answer, that my thought process THAT i maybe
one hundred percent. Wrong When jake turns and looks and,
says AM i allowed to answer? That and it's his?
(01:32:55):
Injury it's his? Injury what is your first thought when
somebody and that needs approval that this isn't Just i'll see.
Tomorrow they've been told what to. Say so when we,
can when you can accept that the length of these
injuries may bother, You but how it's told to you
in an, interview won't because you should expect longer Than
(01:33:19):
how often has the guy come back quicker than we've anticipated?
HERE i can't remember any. Time so if we're talking
about history and back of the baseball card for, performance.
Speaker 8 (01:33:30):
Maybe bragmant last year at The elbow that maybe it.
Maybe and so.
Speaker 1 (01:33:34):
If you're talking about back of the baseball card and,
performance shouldn't we also be treat that well? Well the
back of the baseball card injury says that this team
that it takes longer than the, sooner it'll be back
later than. Sooner SO i would suggest that you gear
up to say pain is going to be longer than
you originally, thought That jordan ain't coming back in the
next five, days and that a few others that we don't, have,
(01:33:57):
well a whole bunch of others that we don't have
timelines on air on the side of, longer if you're
thought to save your sanity because it's rare that the
injuries and what it would do for us the company
if you started, saying, hey, man six weeks and the
guy come backs and comes back in, three what are
you gonna? Say oh my, gosh our doctors are miracle,
workers and look how hard he's, training instead of the
(01:34:18):
opposite WHERE i don't know day to day and then
he's out two months without to MAKE i, think what
where's the tut who's? Faulted what are you talking? About
it went from day to day to out two, Months
and so the best way to do is always air
even to us if you're gonna tell me, SOMETHING i
don't want to hear air on the side of a.
Month and if we get him back sooner than, that
we should all be. Grateful. Awesome now we at least
(01:34:41):
got a. Timeline we're not holding it to the exact
month to a. Day he didn't say thirty days On july,
eighth he'll be ready to. Go but if you air
on the side of our thinking and them saying Always
i've always believed with, injuries you want hope and say
you know, what it may be day to day on
how he, feels but the pictures are what we're telling
it's gonna be. Minute so don't expect him back anytime
(01:35:02):
soon and the. Sooner if we get him back in
the inside of the next three, weeks we'll be. Grateful
and plus you're protecting the player with, hip whatever the.
Injury they got all their, protocol so just they should
air on the side of telling you. More so if
he comes back, sooner we're pumped and it's a shot
in the arm OF b. Twelve but anytime you tell
me day today and the guys out ninety, days your
(01:35:23):
perception of day to day and my perception are completely
different at eight. FIFTEEN i want people to remember this
On july. ELEVENTH i agree With bill. O'Brien i agree
with how he used to handle injury. Situations it was,
blanket but it would fit right, here AND i think
they would.
Speaker 8 (01:35:38):
Work gonna miss some, time gonna miss some. Time stop
with the next day the, ah you, know but they're
feeling a lot. Better stop. Stop, yeah as long as
you're not, playing you ain't feeling that. Good may be feeling. Better,
yeah he stepped on one of his kid's legos see
you in three, months.
Speaker 1 (01:35:57):
So that we don't. Know it's a deep it's a
deep heal old, bruise stone bruise on his, heel which
may lead to plant. Fasciatus, actually now that we see, it, yeah,
calcification we're, right. Right so JUST i just always, say,
yeah it's going to be out a, minute and we
don't know the, timeline but we're. Preparing and if he
comes back sooner than what a blessing for. Us in the,
(01:36:18):
conversation didn't We but when you tell me day to,
Day i'm thinking that day to day it MEANS i
may get him On. Saturday, Right, so but you, know
but it's Not dana's. Fault there are marching, orders there.
Is that's that's that's Why i've said when it comes to,
injuries and you've got to be extra sensitive because well
you've seen when people are here and you, Leave, well
they sold me out that my injury was. Worse and
(01:36:38):
we've seen that in all. Sports, Right, well what do
you mean so you're guarding against all that? Too everything
comes into. Play well what if WELL i got a
guard against, HIM i can't give. Him the thing that
blows my mind is that the player himself IF i
blow up my knee and you asked, me, YEAH i don't.
KNOW i hope hopefully it's not blown. Out we're gonna
find out. Tomorrow BUT i heard it pop my ham. Straight,
(01:36:59):
Okay i've heard. Pop HOPEFULLY i heard the wrong, thing
and it's gonna be, Okay but we'll know, tomorrow and
once the imaging, is don'll have good idea If i'm
out for the season or IF i can come back
and rehab. This in a conversation with his, hand, yeah my.
CALF i don't. KNOW i pray it's not an. ACHILLES
i don't know how long it, is but once the
swelling goes, down we're going to look at it and
hopefully we'll get back at this And i'll be back playing.
Soon BUT i don't know what soon is on this.
(01:37:20):
GUY i gotta find out the, diagnosis AND i got
to see Where i'm. At see Mentioning bill O'Brien brought
out Disdain, Dan SO i made it. UP i made
up for it as quickly AS i. Could, YEAH i
mean it just just you don't have to tell me a.
Lot just don't tell me tomorrow and he's coming back
the next. Day if he's going to be, back and
you already know he's going to be back in a.
Month it's almost like somebody that owes you. Money you, Know,
(01:37:42):
hey when AM i going to get that? Money? Oh
you'll get it, soon, Man, no that's not What i'm talking.
About soon, enough you have to like you to put
a day on. It, yeah did you mail it?
Speaker 6 (01:37:50):
Yet?
Speaker 1 (01:37:50):
Yeah you bring it it?
Speaker 10 (01:37:51):
Yet.
Speaker 1 (01:37:51):
Yeah now we Got venmo for a. Reason use, It
brandon And. John see you guys right.
Speaker 8 (01:37:56):
There i'll get you guys involved in the conversation as
we continue along. Here Joh On Salisbury, Show Sports talk seven.
Speaker 1 (01:38:01):
Ninety let the celebration. Start Wor Sean SALISBURY A Sean Salisbury.
Show good, Morning, John.
Speaker 6 (01:38:13):
Hey good.
Speaker 9 (01:38:13):
Morning, uh nice day, OUT i, guess but, HEY i
wanted to, Say i'm looking forward To Bryce matthews seeing
him called up and.
Speaker 6 (01:38:22):
Everything i'm glad The ashers are going to give that a.
Speaker 9 (01:38:24):
Look, uh you know all this, secrecy like you, know
it's being. Managed what can be said about the? Injuries you,
know you, know we're kind of kept in the, dark
like you were, saying and, uh it kind of reminds
me of The Epstein files in a.
Speaker 6 (01:38:38):
Way but, anyways, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 9 (01:38:43):
Well you, know at that's on my, Death i'm only
looking at fifty thousand videos of famous and powerful.
Speaker 6 (01:38:48):
People but, yeah we're still looking at.
Speaker 1 (01:38:49):
It, okay that calls down the, hall there Were, John, yeah.
Speaker 9 (01:38:54):
Yeah but, uh you know What i'm concerned about this
weekend IS i just hope The ashers get that intensity.
Speaker 6 (01:39:01):
BACK i was concerned, about you, know The, guardians but,
uh you.
Speaker 2 (01:39:05):
Know The.
Speaker 9 (01:39:06):
Rangers they can't afford to lose when they come in,
here and uh so they're gonna they're.
Speaker 6 (01:39:11):
Gonna do everything they. Can they're gonna have a lot of.
Speaker 9 (01:39:13):
Intensity and part of me wishes The astros are on
the road right, now you, know BECAUSE i like the
look that they had in this last road trip and.
EVERYTHING i just didn't see the, intensity you, know with
The guardians in. Town but, uh, Anyways I'm i'm just.
Concerned i'm concerned About i'm hoping they can get that
intensity back and and, uh you, know we'll see what
(01:39:34):
happens over the.
Speaker 6 (01:39:34):
Weekend it should be a good series, though it should
be a good series of. Games so, yeah appreciate. That
ALL i have to.
Speaker 1 (01:39:40):
Say, yeah, thanks, guys Appreciate.
Speaker 8 (01:39:42):
JOHN i mean, correct, WELL i mean AND i was
watching The rangers broadcast last night and it started to
get away a little. Bit The rangers pulled out in
front of The, angels AND i mean they were spending
a good amount of Time Dave raymond AND i Think
Mike bassek was doing the game with, him and they
were spending a lot of time talking about this. Series
(01:40:02):
AND i mean there's not only the bad blood that
goes back to a couple of years. Ago AND i
like the line That Adam clinton said the other day
AND i was, like you know, what that epitomizes this
rivalry more than. Anything do you almost get the sense
that The rangers were happier about beating The astros in
twenty three than they were about winning the Actual World.
Speaker 1 (01:40:22):
SERIES i actually think The World series for them was
a foregone. Conclusion was it Against? Arizona arizona they, were,
Well arizona had good, you they have good. Pitching they
got that they got smoked in. THAT i, mean they
had a hell of a. Year BUT i don't think
many of us thought that The rangers weren't going to.
(01:40:43):
Win it can almost be anti. Climactic i've seen it
before where sometimes The National championship game is the final,
four not the final, two and we expect you get my,
point and we've seen it before that you can get
so built up with rivalries that you forget the big.
Plan it happened all the. Time i've seen it happen
on the. Field when guys get into a verbal. War you,
know you're in the guy's ear all the, time trying
(01:41:05):
to play gamesmanship with him before the ball snapped at
the line of, scrimmage and before you know, it you're
so intent on that guy that you, Forget oh that's,
Right we've got to go win a. Game and it's
the same. Here it can be flipped, too that the rivalry,
creates you, know that feeling of diving in AND i
do think it would have been. Easy now they were
(01:41:25):
fortunate that veterans they. Were they just had a hell
of a year And arizona had a hell of a year.
Two but when they take care of, that you, know
you beat The astros and come in, there and the
way they did, it the whole key is that with
that right and the intensity that goes in the The
Bruce bochi didn't allow them to sigh after they beat
it after they. Won but DO i think that the,
(01:41:45):
Satisfaction oh, yeah we Beat, arizona but it's not as
The ARIZONA i don't want to say, nondescript but they're
not a. Rival all that that goes into. It you
won The World, series BUT i almost think that it
was a we won The World series and we also
kicked the ass and the team down the street when
they their hats down right now and they had us,
down and we went and Took we went into their
house and beat them two times in a row and
won this. Thing so DO i think That? Hell, Yes
(01:42:07):
well there was also to the you guys over.
Speaker 8 (01:42:10):
Celebrated we didn't celebrate, enough and you Know Alex bregman's
speech all of That Corey seeger at the, parade if
that's what you want to call, it but at the
celebration when they want it to making fun Of Alex.
Speaker 1 (01:42:21):
BREGMAN i, MEAN i get. It that's what a rivalry.
Is but it is and there's constant it happens in
all rivalries and the. Digs how many times did you
hear them get a dig in on or say something
about The diamondbacks when it was over? Nothing so it does.
Matter it's like it's like playing your rival one's rivaly
like last weekend of the season or, right you have
your rivalry game and you're gonna make the, playoffs so
(01:42:42):
you're gonna go to THE sec championship game what have.
You but When alabama Plays auburn and the iron. Ball
when all of a sudden we won the national, championship
what do you think most fans we Kicked auburn's. Ass
it matters matters more For auburn than it. Does it
does because they're they're they're the they're the they're not
the beloved. One there's a second team in the state
(01:43:03):
when it comes to college. Football but it's still mattered
When auburn's good and it's competitive and their battle for national,
title it does. Matter so and that doesn't mean but
it's the. Ability For, yes you feast off that because
the intensity, matters but you can't let it get so
out of hand that you, forget LIKE i was talking,
about on the, field you forget the task at. Hands
you still have to go take it To arizona or
take it To auburn if You're, alabama and The rangers
(01:43:26):
were able to do. That but just like, here if
they were to beat The rangers in The American League
Championship series and go win The World series against The,
dodge that it would both matter because The. Dodgers but just,
say with somebody else who's stuck in and was, representative
don't think for a, minute they wouldn't focus a lot
On oh, yeah we hammered our rival in their, building
just like they. Did and most of your digs on
(01:43:47):
social media from fans would be at The, rangers not
at the. Well they would at The dodgers, too whoever
The National league team is that really doesn't bother you,
much but played good. Baseball but, yes it would be directed.
Arrival it always. Is it's just my whole thing with The.
Speaker 8 (01:44:02):
Rangers it's like they've shoehorned their weight into all the
piling on against The, astros like it had nothing to
do with, you like you're not a part of.
Speaker 1 (01:44:10):
This to it's too easy and it's too. Cliche but
they've jumped all over society and unfortunately the most recent
thing that they have it won up because the most
Recent World series in this state belongs to The, rangers
and that that alone should don't even though guys weren't,
here don't you, Think galto they remember that when they
(01:44:31):
came into your building and took it and win The
World series because they had The astros gone to The
World series that, year The Air arizona wasn't beating, Them
so back to bout there's no question so that that
you should carry that. FORWARD i like that you just
can't let it get in the way of what the business.
Is but if that's what it takes to get you
to drive you to treating this, like you know what
we owe these guys last time they were in your
(01:44:52):
building and meaning this is. Meaningful it's not as meaningful
as that, was but they took care of their business
at your. Expense, well it's a good it's a you
don't need any other speech other than we owe them from.
Speaker 8 (01:45:01):
That i'm sure you've seen the clip making the rounds
from quarterback With Joe. Burrow in terms of the, gamesmanship
Beat Joe, Burrow, hey you're running the.
Speaker 1 (01:45:09):
Ball, Blank, no here it. Goes, yeah tell them what
you're doing and then, boom let it. Go so it
happens all the, time and rivalries are. Good AND i
like the fact that it is The rangers you got
to beat and play going into the into the time,
off because if you play with the intensity you're supposed,
to these next four or five days off will be
great for. You you'll be able to breathe and, say,
man that, intensity but don't don't don't leave that at
(01:45:30):
the door right. NOW i need to need three more
days of it and then you can take all the
break you want until it's time for the second.
Speaker 8 (01:45:35):
Half, yeah level it off as best you can. SEE
a couple of you want to get in on the.
Phone lines seven one, three two one two five seven
ninety is the number to get. In continue this conversation
with The astros And rangers this. Weekend we'll do that
right here as we Continue Sean Salisbury, Show Sports talk
seven Ninety.
Speaker 1 (01:45:51):
Men's Teve clinic full body wellness and wellness, optimization optimize, hair,
vitality your sexual wellness again from head to. Toe this
isn't just part of your body wellness and the lower
part of your, body but it will make mama happy
when you got your testosterone leveled, out that you're not
letting low testosterone bog you down with brain fog and
(01:46:13):
lack of, energy lack of sexual energy and the wellness
optimization that you're looking. For and if you're stuck in
that mode and you're, like what's the, problem, well don't
you want the? Answer and if it's low testosterone and
you need to normalize, it get to. Work it's not.
Invasive if you're just going to go in and draw
a little, blood answer a few. Questions by the end
of the, day get to normalize it wherever you. Are
(01:46:33):
and if it isn't, testosterone doesn't that give you an, Idea,
well it's something. Else so you get to kill two
birds with one. Stone but more than, likely whether you're
thirty or sixty and somewhere in, between if it's low,
testosterone now we get to fix in it and then
you get back to the life that you. Want life
that you want of, energy sexual. Wellness your body's in,
shape you have the energy to go be the weakend
(01:46:53):
warrior All, american and that the way it's supposed to.
Be so if you're stuck in low gear now or
in quicksand and you need your energy and your sexual wellness,
back it all starts with full body. Wellness five convenient.
Locations eleven years they've been doing this and changing. Lives
That's MEN'S Ta, clinic and there's one somewhere near. You
It's men's Ta clinic Dot. Com get out a lower
gear and get the life you, deserve having earned. It
(01:47:16):
but you've got to go in and do it and
have that potential match the production That MEN'S Ta clinic
can provide it's Men'st clinic dot.
Speaker 8 (01:47:23):
Com the seven to ninety listener line in the eight
o'clock hour is presented by one eight hundred Car. Cash
The astros weren't, cheating we were tipping our, pitches and
we've got to be able to fix, that and you,
know be able to you, know kind of remedy it
and going. Forward but apparently last Night Andres munos was
tipping his. Pitches videos out there now The yankees realizing
(01:47:47):
what was, coming and guys on second base starting to
alert the guy in the batter's, Box, hey you know
his arm looks like, this it's gonna be a, slider
or you, know looks like, this it's gonna be a.
FASTBALL i, mean you saw it the other night with The,
astros With Mauricio dubon on second, base that the pitcher
for The guardians finally just, Said i'll take an intentional
(01:48:08):
balk right. Here these guys are good at seeing these on,
pitchers so he can't see it from over at third.
Speaker 1 (01:48:13):
Base he can see it from right. There and there's
nothing cheat about. That that's on. You you got to
fix it if you're the pitcher and you're the team you.
CAN'T i, mean if if you're if you, are if
that tell is so obvious that it, happens and somebody
with a naked eye can pick it up standing on
a base or sitting in a, dugout but you, better
you better fix it because these players on all teams
(01:48:34):
are way way too good to be setting it on
a t for, them they're not going to miss. It so,
yeah and you know it's weird in a pitch Tip
normally when you're tip and pitches it's pre wind. UP
i would think, grip, YEAH i mean the, grip the
way you hold the way you hold your. Glove, yeah
the way you grip, it you, know in the glove
(01:48:55):
while you're moving, around all those, things because obviously when
you say tip and pitch is arm angle, change arm
angle change all the, time plus too late to get
it to somebody when it starts and it's like you
can't you see it enough though you can pick it up,
right But i'm talking about in the middle of the wind,
up you're not flashing the signal to guy because by
that time it's too. Late the guy had had that.
Point so it's all got to be pre snap read,
(01:49:16):
stuff is my. Point and so whether it's the way
he stands on the mound for one pitch and moves
on the matter of whether it's the way he grips
it in the glove and you know it's one he's
grinding a little more on whatever it, Is i've just,
never i, guess never understood if you're a, pitcher why
just why the easy part wouldn't make it all look
the same and the good ones? DO i know that
sounds Oh, sean that's the. Goal but at that stage
(01:49:39):
in Major League, baseball what point do you, say man,
Alive i'm getting. HAMMERED i wasn't getting hammered. Yesterday what
point do you, say what AM i? Doing the Way
i'm holding my glove or my grip is giving this?
Away you'd think that the advanced part of your game
would say that's the easy part to. Fix that's the self.
Scout that's what it. Is is it's after the.
Speaker 8 (01:49:58):
Start you, Know Hunter, BROWN i, Mean i'm not saying
that he was tipping his pitches Against cleveland the other,
night but you got touched up worse than we've seen
him in a couple of. Years SO i mean that's
where he sits now With Josh miller or whoever it,
is in the pitching, department and they're, like you were showing,
this you were doing, that and.
Speaker 1 (01:50:13):
It's not even Just Josh, miller it's your own. Teammate
if all of a, sudden your own teammates sitting there
And brugman would do it, right and and Al tuvey, says,
MAN i know you're throwing. Fastball it's. IT i can
see it from you. Know but obviously he'd but let's,
say or the D h if it was yourd. On
HE'S dh sitting in the dugout while your team's on a,
field and, says or a. Backup those guys watch all the,
TIME i, mean and a guy who's not an everyday.
(01:50:34):
Player but sit over, there man with without me an,
invasive but just said maybe that there's something to this
because you're too good to be getting hit like. This
and the way you're gripping your slider or your your
your two, seamers it's a dead. Giveaway and you don't
tell him during the. Game oh, no, no, no, no no.
No do you tell him when he's out or if
if if the start before like after This cleveland. Start
(01:50:58):
if that was the, case well then you you go
have HIS canv casual. Conversation it's not a formal sit
down interview because you don't want. To it's not that.
Alarming you just want them to just take stock and.
Knowing and you, know you say you're not gonna do
it during the, game because that's like dropping back to
pass in the middle of a. Pass the, coaches you
don't throw, it you, know, no talk to me. Afterwards
let me handle the throwing. Part it's the same thing with.
Pitching but as a as a good, teammate you're looking for,
(01:51:21):
that but also as the, Pitcher i'd want to know
that information even if it even if it bothered, Me
i'd want to know it, because, well the goal for
me is to get people out and win. It it's
the Old there will be.
Speaker 8 (01:51:32):
Signs and what this reminds me of is a few
years ago when it was The dolphins on hard knocks
And Dan Dan campbell was one of their tight. Ends
he was their tight ends, coach and somebody had a
concern about. Something he, goes worry about it, later we'll
coach it up. Later we'll just play through it now.
Speaker 1 (01:51:49):
And that's usually good coaching because it becomes a distraction
on the. Practice and Then Danny green was like, that, well,
coach stop down and, coach we want a tempo at. Practice,
okay we miss a we'll watch it on tape and It's.
Wednesday we'll get it fixed for. That, yeah we'll get
it fixed For. Thursday. Practice run it. Again is bogged
down every now and they need somebody jumped off. Sides
run it. Again but if the coach has they run
again too many, times they just get. Pissed we'll correct
(01:52:10):
it in the film. Room and and then that's where
you get dressed down a little. Bit but in order
to get through it, again, listen just go play free
your mind up with the. Clutter we'll clutter it up
on the film. Room when now you're like tripping because
you're paying. Attention, NOW i just got to survive. It
and so during a game to survive it and we'll
coach it up.
Speaker 8 (01:52:27):
Later it's like there was a guy that played for The,
Falcons Rashid, hageman and he was so embarrassed by his
film And Brian cox was was taking him through it
with the remote and he, GOES i, mean you, Know
i'm just trying to coach you, up and they're making
you their jailhouse, Pitch SO i don't really, know like
you know WHAT i can do right?
Speaker 1 (01:52:44):
Here, well you, well when the players get on that,
roll you said back and let it happen and hope
that the player is not sensitive the one that's getting.
It but when you have bad, tape you know it
before you even sat in. There the worst day of
the week is Is. Mondays, yeah that's Our sunday. Game
it's a great day if you. Won but even, then
(01:53:05):
because you can be more critical in film when you. Win,
why especially if you've had a good, game because coaches
can be more critical because they're, like he can handle. It,
today he had a good, game score two, touchdowns but
he missed pass pro from the running back position three.
Times and you know it as a, player so you're, like,
DAMN i threw for four. HUNDRED i threw three, touchdowns
but the ONE i missed and the two interceptions that
(01:53:25):
were careless reads by. Me they always always bother you
more than the four hundred you threw. For so going
In monday's always even when you, win it's like because nobody,
ever it's rare to play the perfect. Game but even
if you, win you'll watch the tape if you're self
scouting and self. Critical it's LIKE i hit the guy
on the back. Shoulder yeah he caught, it but if
(01:53:46):
he catches it on the front shoulder against, man it's
not a catching a. Tackle he's out the back door
and we threw for four. Ninety so that's how you.
Think but you got to get over, him LIKE i always,
say equally as. Quick but, yes that's exactly.
Speaker 6 (01:53:57):
Right you go.
Speaker 1 (01:53:57):
Players that's WHY i always, say if you want to
know what's going on about who's, playing, injuries all that,
stuff find a. Player find a player that you could.
Trust they trust you because they'll always tell. You players
always know who should be. Playing players always know who
had bad tape before the tapes even.
Speaker 3 (01:54:15):
Run they all.
Speaker 1 (01:54:16):
Know and there's nothing worse than the player coming in
and feeling like you forget the fact that you let yourself.
Down more, importantly you let those cats. Down oh, dude
what are you doing? Here the offensive line is protecting
perfectly and you going, in your eyes are close trying
to block this. Guy, yeah film's a. Bummer, Okay even
when you, win it's all good because you, won but
on the individual, part it sucks because you, know no
(01:54:38):
matter how well you, Played, didna you're gonna find faulton
solo coach could have made. It you may have completed
the ball was, open but if you wait for one
split second on the wheel route instead of throwing the curl,
route and the wheel route is a, touchdown you're, LIKE
i miss, that even though we got a, completion and
so so those things. Happen and when you lose and play,
poorly the mondays are A. Mondays you'd wish you could
(01:54:59):
call in. Sick you can't and face and that music.
Sucks but you've already gone through every player and stared
at the ceiling the entire. Night you already know what
you're in. For On monday, morning you go three for,
four but that four was the, strikeouts and you lose
six to. Five, well but you'll also, Look, oh you
went three for, four you did a great job of
getting a base hit on the opposite way on two,
strikes but your first two strikes you waved a non competitive.
(01:55:23):
Strikes so it creeps. In you're, SAYING i can't let.
That HAVE i put myself in AN o two, hole
you got out of. It so in every Game i've
never been around or, Myself i'll speak for myself or
players i've been. Around i've never been around a player
that really is self critical of himself and really is
a team guy that walks out of film room, Thinking,
man it's never even if you have a great, game
(01:55:45):
it's never quite as good as you think because there's
always something in. Between, MAN i wasn't hustling on. THAT
i made the wrong. Read even THOUGH i got a.
COMPLETION i shouldn't have thrown it. There it was double,
coverage BUT i had a receiver that made a great.
Catch so it never and it's never as bad even
when you have the bad, games you're, like did some good,
things but there are a couple of times and you're,
like that was every bit as bad as it. Looked
(01:56:05):
and those are the times you want the coach to,
say we're not watching. This it's too. Embarrassing we're moving
on to the next.
Speaker 8 (01:56:11):
Game that's why coaches always talked About i'm having my
hand in the, studio do it, best feat of the
mind right in the.
Speaker 1 (01:56:17):
Middle that's why they tell you you know you're, up.
Hie we got to bring you down a little. Bit
you're down. Low we've got to bring you up a little.
Bit and the consistency of staying of playing it's not
great once in a while that wins. Championships it's good
all the. Time and if you can be that and
overcome it, quickly your team will be pretty. Good but,
man film is just blows because it's it's it never
(01:56:40):
lies and it never. Has what's worse that are updowns
all the. Tape oh, yeah the physical stuff you get
through and they, suck but you can get through it
because you've done it. Before and you, KNOW i don't
how to do, updowns, okay but you can fix those
in the middle of because you're actually you're taking control
of your control over your own updowns and no kind of.
SHAPE i can't control the past game now it's already
(01:57:01):
in the. Books that's there. Forever and you let your team. Down. Yeah,
no that mental part of it in the film far
worse than any sprints you can make me. Run you could,
say run one hundred of them AND i may throw
up in a trash, can but it'll go away. Quickly
i'll hydrate and be good to. Go AND i didn't embarrass.
MYSELF i ran and can finish them. All it's the
tape that you're, Saying i'm never getting that play against
(01:57:23):
that team and that fourth quarter, Back and it wasn't
an effort. Air it was a bad decision that we've
gone over a thousand times in, tape and what were you.
Thinking that's it's the worst part of the. Game it's
a WHERE i can fix the physical, thing the mental.
Thing once the game's gone and you let your team,
down it's, like what in the world WAS i?
Speaker 8 (01:57:43):
Doing SO i should probably get yelled at less than,
probably you, know just with my mental block with physical.
Speaker 1 (01:57:48):
Activity, yeah, well now if you're out of, shape it's
not a matter of what's. Worse it's a matter you're
just never going to make it through if you're doing
updowns and you're out of. Shape but you, know going
into a, season you can control. That it's hard to control,
sometimes especially after the, fact BECAUSE i can go back
to work and get the JUMP i can't get the game's.
Gone and that's WHY i always say for these kids
(01:58:09):
in high, school you better put two hours. In for
every physical hour you put, in you better get two
hours in. Mentally if you really want to. Elevate and
if you can't call the game, yourself if the coach was,
sick then you haven't prepared well. Enough you may never
have to use. It BUT i would go into every game,
preparing like my offensive coordinators sick, TONIGHT i got to
call the. Place if you do that at any, level
(01:58:31):
that means you're. Prepared if you can't do, it then
you probably need to spend a little more time in
that book or on that film. Preparation you need it
in every sense of the. Word Biscuit, Brandon, john see you.
Guys we'll get you guys involved in the.
Speaker 8 (01:58:44):
Conversations Sean salisbury Show Sports talk seven ninety from H.
Speaker 3 (01:58:49):

Bay uh, Yeah, john got to put you on the hold,
man and the connection's not so, great and we'll try
to get through it to a. Triple he's gonna get
with you. There but you, know just in terms of
the team setting up for this, weekend and you know
everything that me And sean have talked about, too of
being able to level off the ship as much as.
Speaker 1 (01:59:37):
Possible we just.
Speaker 8 (01:59:38):
Talked about in the last segment of you, know a
little low after coming out of The guardian series and
losing that, one but you, know trying to be able
to find a way to get, back you, know above
that midline right, there and and you, know create a
little bit of good mojo heading into The All star.
Break those are things that The astros are trying to
be able to, do AND i, MEAN i think a
(01:59:59):
huge part of that is again what we talked about
earlier on the. Show you, Know Zach, SHORT i, mean,
offensively you know what you're going to, get not much, defensively,
well you know that you'll be able to get a
guy that can feel this position and do just fine
at that. Spot so that's what The astros are hoping
that they're gonna be able to get out Of Bryce,
matthews is to have both the offense and defense meet
(02:00:21):
up someone three two, one two five seven Ninety brandon
wants to. Win good, Morning, brandon.

Speaker 1 (02:00:43):
Right so seven strikeouts tonight for? Him what's the hitting?
Speaker 4 (02:00:45):
Part fashion rocker or exact probably.
Speaker 3 (02:00:50):
Needs a head a home?
Speaker 1 (02:00:51):
Run all?
Speaker 8 (02:00:52):
RIGHT i like, It, brandon you're calling your. Shot so
seven strikeouts out of. McCullers we need a. Homer you know,
What let's Get, Greedy let's get both of the. Guys,
well let's let's get Both walker and parentis going this
weekend in terms of the power.
Speaker 1 (02:01:05):

Show good, Morning good morning. Guys what's Going AND i
Hope i'm sounding. Better you're sounding much. Better, Hey, LOOK
i like. What i'm not afraid of the astros. YET
i think they're.
Speaker 11 (02:03:23):
OKAY i, think BUT i, really you, know big time,
players you, know still stand up the big time.
Speaker 1 (02:03:30):
GAME i put it on two.
Speaker 11 (02:03:32):
PEOPLE i put it on the color he can't give
up five runs and that he got to go out
there and pre pissed like the star he is that
we think he could. Be AND i put on you
two b because he is the leader of this. Team
he got to go out there and lead the. Weight
now that the bringing up Price, MATTHEWS i think that's a,
great great bring up BECAUSE i feel like by him
(02:03:54):
playing second base, two we could get back out there
left field and my left field. OUT i can't call
him that right there moving the silver. Field we know
he can play centers and move him to the center.
Field so the passions is getting feeled. In but the
one THING i gotta, SAID i get. Y'ALL i want
to get y'all as on. This the last TIME i
look at the dut, guy they looked over. Crowded it
looked like there's too many people in the duck. GUY
(02:04:16):
a lot of them players is not gonna. Play they
just getting. There AND i think it's just the confusion
because there's so many players and that that, guy you,
know kick the ones that you they can help your,
team you, know, win but send the rest of.
Speaker 1 (02:04:29):
Them i'd rather be in the man a league.
Speaker 11 (02:04:30):
Plan every day instead of sitting up, there you, know doing.
Nothing and So i'm gonna get y'all take on. That
BUT i think they're. OKAY i think they'll beat The.
Speaker 6 (02:04:38):
Rangers.
Speaker 8 (02:04:40):
ALL i appreciate the, Call, JOHN i mean in terms
of the you know guys that you need to step.
UP i, mean you know you touched on it, Yesterday,
sean what was the difference in The cleveland? Series Jose
ramirez Was Jose, ramirez you, know And Jose star played
like one, RIGHT i Mean jose AL tv did his.
Best BUT i mean again it gets back, to you,
know beaten the same dead horse of. All when are
(02:05:03):
you gonna get?
Speaker 6 (02:05:04):
Going?
Speaker 1 (02:05:04):
Oh what? Happened in the in the series at The
DODGERS tv Cam smith as players Took, walker, right, guys
you expect to do it even if they have it
all you, long, consistently you expect And, john as far
as you're the dugout looks. Crowded you have to have
a certain amount of people on your. Roster it'd be
(02:05:25):
great if you said we could only play ten and
the rest of them are in the minor, leagues get.
WORK i understand it looks awfully crowded and probably with
a bunch of faces you wouldn't recognize if you were
eating a jbar and, barbecue but it'd been, productive so,
well it may look. Crowded, uh it is a, necessity
and you have to have your roster size has to
be the right size to actually play in a. Game
(02:05:47):
so there's nothing they can do about. That, WELL i,
mean it was a joke made the other.
Speaker 8 (02:05:51):
NIGHT i Think blummer pointed it out, that, uh you
know how everybody likes to stand and you, know lean
on the front rail there in the dugout that it
was almost so outed that certain guys can even get
on the.
Speaker 1 (02:06:02):
Rail they have to like watch from the. Back it's
like synchronized. Swimming they're all up, THERE i alw on a.
RAIL i, mean it'd be kind of funny if they
all of a sudden in one of those games where
you like got a rally cap or at the same
time all of them put their arms down put them
back up a little synchronized astros. Work but, Yeah i'm
sure it looked, crowded because it looks always more crowded
when people are closer to the field and sitting up.
(02:06:22):
There but the truth is there's nothing they can do about.
That it's just roster.
Speaker 8 (02:06:26):
Wise you just would like it to be less crowded
because that means that more of those guys are actually in,
uniform not just.
Speaker 1 (02:06:32):
Yet. Pullover, now if he's when he said the minor, Leagues,
now if he just, said, listen there's a bunch of
guys that aren't gonna play because they're hurt and they're
just there to support different. Story but he's, right it'd
be great they down there get, racing but we need
some bodies and warm ones up, here and some of
those bodies that we just consider well guys were supposed
to be playing in the minor leagues are actually being
(02:06:53):
counted on to, contribute and a lot of them they
weren't even. Here the more part of the organation he
went in and got from other. Places in, particular your
corner infield or corner outfielder have been a huge part
of this team's. Success so BUT i get his. Point
it did look, Crowded but unfortunately when it comes to
guys in, uniform they're. There they've got to be in
the dugout or in the.
Speaker 8 (02:07:14):
Bullpen, WELL i mean you just, again you'd like and
those guys would like to be back, too you. Know
THAT'S i, mean you see this more in football than anything.
That like when a guy is, hurt you don't see
him in the locker room during the media portion like it.
Speaker 1 (02:07:29):
Is it is by.
Speaker 8 (02:07:30):
DESIGN i have to, believe like where it's, like, hey,
look you, KNOW i don't need to talk about. Anything
these guys are. PLAYING i need to focus on the training.
Room a matter of, fact it's usually when you're, hurt
you stay out of the. Way the guys that, aren't
even if you're a veteran or, how you just stay
out of the. Way and most of the, time And
i've been.
Speaker 6 (02:07:48):
Through, it.
Speaker 1 (02:07:51):
You're you're usually probably not involved in a whole lot
of you, know, uh you kind of stay out of
the guys. Way it is in the, clubhouse just that
you just go to the, game like if you're standing
on the, side you just kind of stay. Away it's
almost it's kind of a, weird a weird. Feeling the
out of, sight out of mind you approached that way
stuff you want to. Be you, know if you're a
veteran quarterback helping a young, out but it's guys in,
(02:08:13):
uniform you try to stay away and stay out of
the way because they got stuff to do and you're
doing Everything Candle linda helping. Hand but in, truth you're
not on. There most athletes feel, like, Well i'm not,
contributing SO i got to get out of the way
of the people that are and get healthy. Quickly did
you know that we've missed one game? Day that is?
Speaker 8 (02:08:31):
Right Former Manajor Lee elia passed away a couple of,
yeah a couple of days, Ago i'm.
Speaker 1 (02:08:36):
Sorry managed a lot of teams along eighty seven eighty
eight years old legend and managed a handful of different,
places and it was a good character and personality.
Speaker 8 (02:08:47):
Too one of the one of the most famous postgame
rants of all. Time that went on for three minutes
where he, said what AM i supposed to? Do let
my players go out there and get destroyed every bleeping
day and be quiet about. It for The nickel And
diamond bleeping up people who show, up they don't even,
work they should go get a job and find out
what it's like to go out there and earn a.
Living eighty five percent of the people are working and
(02:09:08):
the other fifteen percent come.
Speaker 1 (02:09:10):
Yere that's that's probably not the best way to win
over a fan. Base basically call, them, well they're there
because and some of them may be, working but decided
that they didn't want to work on a day game
on A. Thursday, yeah that was pretty remote, work, right right.
Exactly so, yeah old school didn't, care and they weren't
(02:09:31):
worried about a general manager or an owner company saying
you can't say that about our fan. BASE i just, Did,
OKAY i, mean what are you going to? Do and
then the next day you find your. Way, WELL i didn't.
MEAN i love the fans that are, there but it's
at some point in time when you're not playing, one
you get your ass. Kicked everybody has their breaking, point
And Lee elia had a few of his a great
personality and a great beloved in the. Game but also
(02:09:54):
if he had an, opinion you were going to know.
Speaker 8 (02:09:56):
IT i, mean and it's also TOO i, mean you,
know if you're gonna go off the, fan you got
to be a good footing at that. Point like if
you've won, championships you're telling people they're being, spoiled, well
then usually they'll be, like, ah you know, what maybe you're.
Speaker 1 (02:10:08):
Right even then there's a way to tell, them probably
without being that direct hit on. Them but as a
parent that when guys are going through their postgame, reuts
they really don't you're not thinking about the ramifications of
The oh and then the fan base getting on and
he said that at a time when social media wasn't.
Involved he said it then and he've said it. Now
(02:10:30):
oh they he'd be the lead on all these shows
and do. It But i'm not Sure eli would have
cared at the time about that as. WELL i wonder
if that was the day That Ferris bueller And cameron
And sloan were there at the. Game yeah maybe Maybe,
yeah he is actually were skipping. Out it's exactly, right
and matter of, fact sometimes we're at the point where we, Incurred,
hey take a day off, work come watch the day
game in. Person, sure but eighty five percent of their
(02:10:54):
work and the other fifteen percent at the ballpark and
apparently at that time not getting very well entertained with
the way they were. Playing so, Yeah god bless, him
and you, know pushing ninety years at a he didn't
get cheated out of, Life lelia and they made at
a long run in baseball and one of the legendary
ones for.
Speaker 8 (02:11:11):
Sure someone three, two five seven ninety the number to
get IN.
Speaker 1 (02:11:15):
Dfw daniel wants to weigh. In, daniel good, Morning good morning.
Speaker 15 (02:11:20):
Guys, yeah, first thanks for having me ON I love y'all.
Show listen to y'all every day religiously through The iHeartRadio.
App BUT i was just wondering WITH Dj lemayhew possibly
being released by The, yankees if there is any possible
chance he hits really well intimate park they him, up
maybe as A dh or maybe to Give Christian walker
(02:11:41):
some relief at first, base which he's played from time to,
time and just as far as also Maybe Jaron durant
Or ryan O'Hearn as far as tradeline deadline, takeups who
you guys might like to. SEE i really don't want
to See Cedric mullens because he's not hitting very well.
Now they keep bringing his name up with, us AND
i really don't want to see. Him SO i just
(02:12:02):
wondered what you guys.
Speaker 1 (02:12:03):
Thought, YEAH i appreciate the.
Speaker 8 (02:12:04):
CALL i, MEAN i Know Left Tanned batt has been
a huge part on the wish, List BUT i Mean
i've been for le MAAYHE i know That gordy was
in here with us, Yesterday. Sean he's been about Le
Maay hugh as somebody kicked the tires on, which by the, way,
TOO i THINK i saw officially. Released just, say nobody
was trading for that. CONTRACT i, mean you know it's do.
Speaker 1 (02:12:25):
Twenty two million. DOLLARS i still think you're twenty. Four
he's in the, twenties which he's still, owed and so
they weren't going to pick up the. Contract let him pass,
through and now you go and now you negotiate the
contract that you want to negotiate with.
Speaker 8 (02:12:36):
Him AND i mean he's a possibility and knows had a,
hit but he's always been able to. Hit, YEAH i,
mean that's that's not the issue with. Him AND i mean,
REALLY i think that's what you need more than, anything
because your defense has been so good With. Duran i'm
starting to see that a little bit. TOO i, mean
he's fallen out of favor up there In.
Speaker 1 (02:12:51):
Boston it's weird because they love, him and then all
of a, sudden now that there has been talk about
the last two or three, weeks would you trade him
for so and so and so so there's been talk about.
It and it's weird because you go into a broadcast
AND i watch a lot of the, games and you,
know they rave about his. Energy moved positions obviously to
make way for you, know because he was playing a
(02:13:11):
lot of center field now playing a lot of left.
Field but he's an energy guy who can. Run it's you,
know good players are always going to get this. Talk
and HE'S i think he's in. Line he didn't sign
a new contract that. Year he's in line for. One
but he's a really good. Player but he's one of
those guys that if he's underachieving or of The Red
(02:13:31):
sox are looking for something different that he's been talked
about as an asset to move AND i like him
if If i'm A Red sox, fan WHICH i. Am
i'd like him In, boston but if you're going to do,
it you'd get some pretty good you'd get some assets for,
him because there's some teams that would love to have,
him that may overpay for him because he can be
a table, setter he can, run and he's got a.
Phenomenon he's got good pop and he's got great.
Speaker 8 (02:13:53):
Energy, yeah he's got a club option next year for
eight million to avoid the second string of.
Speaker 1 (02:13:59):
Arbitration his his deal is it's coming and he's a good.
Player but there's been a lot of talk this year
about is he on the is he on the? Block
and would you? Listen if you can Move, devers you
can Move. Duran although then the talk About Will clark
willing to Help Raphael devers And devors stood him up three,
(02:14:19):
times but he did come to his defense though on
that he did he did because it WAS i, mean he,
did but it's JUST i, know and it's. Hyperbolic we overdo.
It BUT i would THINK i would hope That devers would,
it would want that, CONVERSATION i. Guess and then did
you see this and this is a visit you know
when you were a visit When boston went there to
(02:14:40):
visit before. TRADED i get, that but now that he's
a regular, there it's probably not a Bad galolina and
he knew how to.
Speaker 13 (02:14:45):
Hit.
Speaker 1 (02:14:46):
Two we need him on the. Show i've that will.
HAPPEN i want him And eric it's the same time
at the same. Time you have no idea how much
of An eric. Both my, Guy Well burns he's one
of my very good. Friends and he'll come on and
he's awesome and he Loves houston, too he. Does he
loves the, ballpark loves everything about. It and getting him
(02:15:07):
And Will clark on the same time just talk about
baseball and hitting and the state of the game and
The astros all, that it'd. Be it'd be a great
listen because they do a show together on their network
and On No Filter. Network i'd love him. Both And
i'm a Huge burnsey. Fan but, YEAH i would think
that any player could use a lesson on how to.
Hit and that beautiful left handed swing of A Will.
(02:15:28):
Clark did you Like.
Speaker 8 (02:15:29):
Will clark though saying, hey, look you Know i'll give
you this. One BUT i show up To San francisco,
again we're Working oh, Yeah and he's not.
Speaker 1 (02:15:36):
Kidding he wants to you, know he wants this team
there In San francisco to, win and he Knows devers
has a lot of potential and he could probably help
him Because clark was a great contact hitter with some
power as, well and hits from the same side of the.
Plate and you put it this, way when we have him,
on he won't lack an opinion the. Guy he's not
afraid of. THAT i can promise.
Speaker 8 (02:15:56):
You, yeah we just had we you, know LIKE i, Said,
triple you got to be there with the dump button
if and when we make that. Happen all, Right speaking
of baseball, salaries all those, things it kind of ties
in because somebody wants one, thing BUT i think that
we should be asking for.
Speaker 1 (02:16:11):
Another we'll talk about it right.
Speaker 8 (02:16:12):
Here it Is Sean Salisbury show on A Friday Sports
sox seven ninetys.
Speaker 1 (02:16:15):
Hey witzdvision Dot com WH I T S E T.
T Doctor Jeff witz had been with him a long
time and grateful to be a patient of his and
that he's done my lasik he did by, Cataracts and
every single Time i've gone to him and seen, Him
i've come out, better seeing better and feeling. Better And
i'm grateful for. It so contacts and classes aren't something you,
(02:16:36):
like and you need. Lasik this is a foremost doctor
in lasik in the country and we got them right
here In, houston And i've sent buddies to him and
they've come back, saying man should have done it. SOONER
i said the same, thing but GRATEFUL i did do.
It so work out your payment. Plan go on in
there and see him and listen when it comes to
we're all anxiety when it comes to a laser in
your eyes and you're worried about. It the truth is
(02:16:58):
the latest, equipment the best doctor on the planet it'll.
Be it's really stress, free anxiety free and quite, honestly
the recovery's quick and it is non. Invasive and when
it comes to your, eyes we all want to hear,
that and then coming out of, it you'll be seeing,
better whether it's safety at. Night for, ME i also
want to see my golf ball. DOWN i mentioned it
(02:17:18):
all the, time BUT i just wanted the simple thing
of being able to see on a drive off the
tee where it lands without having asked the guy standing
next to. You and it made a, difference AND i like.
It he'll make a difference for you. Too it's seven
one three three sixty five nine seven nine. Nine you
get a free, review you get a free. Consultation why
wouldn't you use? It and he can either talk you
into it if you're sitting on the, fence or give
(02:17:40):
you all the information you need so you can. Decide.
Yep seven one three three sixty five nine seven nine
nine for your free. Consultation AND i assure you there
is no better. Comfortable And i'm grateful That i'm a
patient and grateful that doctor wits it. Well it has
just made it easier on me and safer for me
to see and. Drive it's Doctor Jeff. Witz it's At
(02:18:00):
vision Dot. Com it's A vision dot.
Speaker 3 (02:18:02):
Com The Jean Salsbury show, continues.
Speaker 8 (02:18:08):
And the CURRENT cba is going to be up next,
year so we'll go through this all over. Again more
than likely twenty twenty. Seven we're looking at kind of
the same thing that we saw was at twenty. Three
was that when it was twenty, two trying to remember
exactly when it was where you had the lockout and
you were wondering if the season is going to start on.
Speaker 1 (02:18:27):
Time With correa's free agent. Year, yeah so it was twenty.
Two there you. Go, Yeah so that's that's when it.
Speaker 8 (02:18:33):
Was then you had the shotgun go off and everybody
could start signing and trading and doing all those different.
Speaker 1 (02:18:38):
Things.
Speaker 8 (02:18:39):
Well Bruce, meyer who is one of the topic executives
for THE, mlbpa says That Rob manfred has been openly
talking about salary cap in team meetings this, year and
for a league that is known for already guaranteed, contracts
and you've got some sort of guardrails with luxury tax
and all those things, currently but it's not a hard
(02:19:01):
cap like you have in THE nfl or even to
some degree THE, nba and trying to tell the, players,
hey you take less because these guys are trying to take.
Speaker 1 (02:19:10):
More it's not going to. Fly it's going to have trouble.
FLYING i just don't know Why i'm on the owners
on this. One And i'm normally a one thousand percent
on the player's side normally in, SPORTS i am now.
Nil and college and all this money they're making for
potential as opposed to. Production when the offensive tackle it's
(02:19:34):
seventeen in high school and hasn't played it down to
the college football makes more money than the guy that's
going to coach him in college. FOOTBALL i do have
a problem with.
Speaker 13 (02:19:40):
IT i just.
Speaker 1 (02:19:41):
Do but sports pays On potent's why you Draft cooper, flag,
Right you're paying on potent college. Production potentially here we're
playing on high school production heading into college with. This
In Major League, BASEBALL i DON'T i think having now
how you where you make the salary cap and what
kind of provisions you have in it's one, thing of,
course the players don't want a salary. Cap, hell why
(02:20:02):
would you your guys sitting there you got a salary.
Cap The otani's of the world and the The sotos
of the world probably aren't staring at seven hundred and
fifty million dollars because unless the salary cap for your
team's a billion dollar you know What i'm saying a bit,
hyperbolic but to the point of how you got to
feel the? Team, well you, Know i've ALWAYS i like salary. Caps,
(02:20:23):
like for, instance we're going to have to change the
sary cap in THE nfl where the quarterbacks not counted
in the normal sary. Cap it's getting to the point
where we're going to have a ninety million dollars quarterback
a year we already got it sixties or at least
a fraction of. It LIKE i don't think you can
go all the way with, It well why if you
do it for every? Team why? Not why can't? You
and then it's the discrepancy of the. Owner if you
(02:20:44):
want to pay a quarterback one hundred and twenty million a,
year that's on. You but most of them are most.
Owners they didn't get rich by giving money. Away you
get my. Point they know. That that's why it's good.
Question there you. Go SO i WOULD i personally think
that to, start put the quarterback in a separate categch
and maybe you'll have your you can name designate one
guy if you. Want now that's going to create some.
(02:21:05):
Jealousies BUT i do believe you need a salary. Cap
then it changes the game for some teams like The
dodgers And. Yankees they got to go out about it
a little, different and it also allows other. Teams BUT
i also want a floor on a salary cap, too
which you should. Have you have to spend a certain
amount of. Money you don't get to just do what
some have done in the, past say oh that's a salary.
Cap we're not getting you there's got to be a
floor and your ceiling and force these general managers and
(02:21:28):
salary capologists to do it all everything the players are
Gonna IF i was a, PLAYER i say absolutely. Not
we got to tend. Carrot LIKE i, said The Diamond
ring said that you don't get to come back With
Cubic zircona for. Us but If i'm the owners on,
this it's out of. Hand, no you're worth what you can.
Negotiate but there ain't no damn. Wash we should. Be
you should be because guess who doesn't have a seat
(02:21:49):
at the. Table the. Fan so the more you have
no salary cap and the MORE i know the luxury
tax is, THERE i get. It but the more you
don't have, one do you think they're going to? Less
and your money that you're spending at the box at
the getting a hot dog or getting a, coke or
what the seats are going to cost without a, side
(02:22:09):
that's just going to continue. Rise you've Probably Corporate america,
runs especially the big. Events they got all the because
they're giving it and they get all their, tickets so
the fan never has the seat at the. Table, ever
the only see you, guys just not to show up
and most aren't willing to do that because they love their,
team AND i would encourage them to always show. Up
but you can price the team. OUT i mean you
can price people. Out the players are going to battle
(02:22:31):
it and we may get a work stoppings didn't last
because it should be one of the top priorities for the,
owners And i'm just telling, you without, it where does it?
Go so on THIS i would try to IF i
Was banford AND i disagree with a lot of the
stuff he, DOES i would try to implement one. TOO
i would battle for that. Well and you know you
just brought up about a salary.
Speaker 8 (02:22:48):
FLOOR i, Mean Jim boden was on with the guys
On Foul territory yesterday and that very thing was talked,
about where they were, like all, right so we've got
a luxury tax for teams that.
Speaker 1 (02:22:56):
Overspend why aren't we doing it for the teams that?
Underspend we should because then they go go on the
cheap and nobody wants to play for, him and they
disrupt the. Whole, yes and the owners are trying to
save pench and pennies save in their own and they're.
Not you don't get the competitive balance you should because
they're not spending money because they don't have a. Flow
you've got to have a, floor and the floor has
(02:23:16):
got a raise for all the. Teams BUT i have
AND i listen as a, PLAYER i hate it as
A If i'm an, OWNER i have to work to
get it In and then you've got to deal with
what you're willing to give. Up if that's what you're
going to, get what are you going to give up
for that to make it. Happen it's going to be.
Contentious it just. Will and they're gearing up for. It
(02:23:38):
but when it comes to salary cap and you, cutting
the best way to get a player pissed or to
get them to hold out is cut into their. Money
players don't think real. QUICK i know this in the
MEETINGS i sat in AN nfl when our when our
player rep would get in there and, say here's what
we're coming down, here here's here's what we're voting, on
and here's the. Deal and our Guy Steve jordan would
stand up and tell us and give us great. Insight
(02:24:01):
is that as you're sitting in there and you're going through,
it very few times do players. Care see players don't
think it's ever going to. End they think they're especially
young when they, think, oh, Man i'll be making this money, forever,
Right and they haven't taken account taxes and all the.
Thing and so somebody will be said that they're telling
you and they'll be talking, about, well bit about your
post career raising, money the, insurance lifetime and the insurance
(02:24:22):
or whatever it. Gets and you're not thinking, about you know.
What you're thinking about how much money AM i, making
how much of it's, guaranteed and how big can it.
Be you're not thinking, about, well ten years in your,
retirement because a lot of them, think, Well i'm making enough,
money won't, Matter i'll buy my own. Insurance they're not
thinking about your four oh one k whatever it is
in the. Post in THE nfl, meetings they're. Not they're
thinking about and they're not thinking about former. Players they're
(02:24:45):
thinking about and they're quite frankly and they're not thinking
about the twelve year old plan In Little league dig
they'll tell you they, Do, OH i want to pave
a way for the future players your ass unless it's
your own, kid you're not up there thinking in your
negotiations at a. Meeting, Yeah i'm worried about the. FUTURE
i want the ten year old playing little league to
have the same opportunities at MONEY i. Did players when
they vote on, that they're not. Thinking they're thinking what's
(02:25:06):
good for me now in my career in the ten
or twelve year or four year or five ors? Man
how much CAN i? Make AND i don't blame them
as much AS i can WHILE i, can't but don't
buy the HYPEL i care About Willie may sacrifice for.
Me very few guys some of these new guys cats
wouldn't even Know Willy. Mays is just like they didn't
know football, players and it's the same. Thing so you
(02:25:27):
don't usually. Care some, do but some don't care about
what's to come and what's. Gone they care about in
their stretch of their. Career and it'll hold true a
lot of. Baseball how much can we make in our
period of. Time i'm not worried about When i'm, Seventy
and then when they get to, seventy it's, like because
not everybody MAKES sodo. Money most of them make money
that you got to, save and you got to bargain for,
it because when you're out of the league at, thirty
(02:25:48):
you got a life to. Live so it's not all
but baseball. Now and you, say, well good. Gracious the
lowest end guys making a four million a year or five,
million so it's a great. Gig but the players are
going to battle not to let that. Happen AND i
don't blame, them stand firm on. It but at some
point in, time where does it? End but you must
have a, floor just the same energy and intention that
(02:26:08):
you have a. Ceiling there's got to be a floor to,
it or the players will get host and they will
battle for. That BUT i think this is going to
be a little bit more contentious than maybe we even
have given it credit.
Speaker 8 (02:26:18):
For spending doesn't necessarily mean that you're going to, win
BUT i, MEAN i think it also does show your
fan base that you care enough to at least try
well to.
Speaker 1 (02:26:26):
Win IF i can go out and get a picture
From japan that If i'm A, dodger OR i can
go out and spend money AND i outbid For Alex
bregman to help me In, boston OR i go out
bid AND i get a guy, here, well it doesn't guarantee.
Success guess. What usually the good players make the most
money and the reason why they make the most money
(02:26:49):
is because they're good players, usually so, yes it gives
you an. Advantage and when you can do that with
five cats and corner the market and hopefully stay, Healthy,
yeah it gives you an advantage because when a Quarterback
phragy comes up And i'd like to Keep Josh, Allen
i'd like to pay him a lot to keep. Him
not everybody gets that luxury because not everybody has that skill,
(02:27:11):
set but you. Have the players are going to battle for.
It but if you're an, owner at some, point when
does it? Stop? Now there may be someone to, say
screwed the salary. Cap we get the luxury AND i
want to keep winning and go and buy the. Players
if you're The dodgers and you make all that, money
you're probably, Like i'm good with the way it. Is
but owners will fight for it because, again they got
rich doing what making smart money, decisions and most of
(02:27:32):
them usually do.
Speaker 8 (02:27:33):
You want to be rich to it rich? People that's exactly.
Right that's usually the life lesson that you can have
on the side of the. Refrigerator BUT i, five, yeah
as a, player hate salary. Caps as a as where
we are now from this vantage, point it's only logical
floor and ceiling got to be the next. Step whether
that happens or, not we'll.
Speaker 1 (02:27:52):
See.
Speaker 8 (02:27:53):
Well a story that will not go, away and FRANKLY
i wish it. Would we'll talk about it right. Here
it is The Sean Salisbury. Show will see you right,
There get you. Involved you want to join him someone
three two and two five seven ninety against someone three
two and two five seven. Ninety it Is Sean Salisbury,
Show Sports talk seven. Ninety the seven ninety listener line
here in the nine o'clock hour is presented by eight
(02:28:14):
hundred car cash Will good, Morning.
Speaker 10 (02:28:18):
Good, morning, guys aren't doing? GOOD i heard you guys
talking about listen to THE mlb. Networking it was SOMETHING
i heard this past. WEEKEND i thought it was pretty.
Interesting so one of the gentlemen, said they put together
question there and they sent it to the major league,
management whether it be general managers of. President and on that,
list they, said name us the five four or five
top minor league players that you would go out of
(02:28:40):
your way to make a trade for right at the
trade day. Life, well number four Was Bryce. Matthews AND
i thought that was interesting BECAUSE i ever DID i
MEAN i remember when they drafted him into twenty twenty,
three you, know AND i knew. THAT i had read
that he was struggling a little, bit but then all
of a, sudden he started to play better this, year
(02:29:00):
And i'm, like, really but the guys on THE mlb
said they would not trade. Him they really like. Him.
Speaker 1 (02:29:08):
Hmm.
Speaker 8 (02:29:09):
Interesting, YEAH i hadn't seen, that BUT i, mean and,
ALSO i don't think they're going to trade.
Speaker 1 (02:29:13):
HIM i think they have big plans for him now depending, well,
YEAH i, See.
Speaker 10 (02:29:18):
Sean the REASON i brought him up is the fact
that YOU i heard you guys talking about the trade
with The Red sox right with, yeah, Okay, WELL i
wouldn't go after DURAND i would go after A braill
who used to be An astros farm. Hand and one
of the problems that The Red sox have beide lack
of a, bullpen is the fact that they need a second.
(02:29:42):
Basement and WHAT i wouldn't Trade matthews to The Red
sox for a, braid but we do one of the
things The astros do have or shortstops and secred. Basement
now they don't have any outfielders in the My lage,
system but they do have short stops and second, basement
AND i think that they could put together a package
for A braill BECAUSE i WAS i tend to Watch
boston play a. Lot, yeah and like two sixty nine
(02:30:04):
would about fifty two or fifty THREE. Rbi that's pretty.
Speaker 1 (02:30:07):
Stout oh, no he's. Big The Red sox lov. Him but,
YEAH i get why you say it with some pop.
Too he's been he's been really.
Speaker 10 (02:30:14):
Good and my last comment IS i heard you talking
about the, players thinking IF i was the, players that
this is, ME i would ask for three. THINGS. A
i would ask to go to free agency within after three.
YEARS i would ask for half my time in the
minor leagues to go against that. Time AND i would
ask to be fully bested after five instead of. Ten
(02:30:36):
and if the owners did, that NOW i may be
able to talk to him about A salard. Cap it's.
Speaker 1 (02:30:41):
Fair, yeah that's a good list for. Sure they may
need you as a. REP a good. Call, well thanks
for the.
Speaker 10 (02:30:47):
CALL i listen to, you.
Speaker 1 (02:30:50):
GUYS i, appreciate. Appreciate that's great insight because you do
fight for those. Things IF i WAS i, too i'd
want free, agency, cleaning free and clean. Sooner one hundred percent.
Correct AND i like the fact that minor league. COUNTS
i do. Like and THEN cnfl doesn't count in ours
instead of ten, years you know, that three, years four, years,
(02:31:12):
Five AND i don't know if it's, changed but WHEN i,
played you had to get into a game or two
or three into your fourth year before you were a
fully vested. Player, YEAH i found that. Out, yeah that's the.
Price if you play one you play one, year you
ain't getting. Retired. NOW i don't know if the new
one says you play one, year you get. Retirement but
in order to get in the, league you had to
be two to three games in of your fourth year
and then you qualified as a full vest in every
(02:31:33):
year adds, up, Right so he's right about, that and ten,
years considering how difficult it is to, play that's. All
that's a that's a hard thing to get. To you
play seven years in a league and you're not fully
vested player for the rest of. You you how many
people can't get to seven?
Speaker 6 (02:31:47):
Years?
Speaker 1 (02:31:47):
Toughly like, football the average career span now is what
two point five or three point, two it's less than four,
years so you most are never getting. Vested but the
injuries are still. There so he makes a good. Point
if they thinking about that free, agency of, course because
that gives you a chance to make bigger money. Sooner
but if you're thinking about long term fully, vested, yeah
(02:32:07):
jump into it. Sooner And i'm with him ON i
kind of, like because we don't have a minor league
system in THE, nfl so it's either THE nfl or.
BUST i kind of, like, hell we probably should start
getting fully vested in. College they'll be the fact that
their college players are pros when it comes to basketball and.
Football now they, Are and we got to treat, him
As gundy, said and we'll get under, That i'm sure next.
Week As gunny, said treat him my. Employees that's a
(02:32:28):
whole nother. Ballgame but with, baseball he's, right AND i.
WOULD i would fight my ass off to Have, hey
if you're playing in the minor, leagues that. Counts you're
in TRIPLE. A, Man you're you're one bus rider one,
here it's not even bus. Riders hop into your own
vehicle and drive to be an. END i would battle
for that as. Well IF i played three seasons in
the minor leagues or four or, five and it's four
(02:32:49):
as a vested. Time Now i'm a vested. Player and
then if you want to put a, minimum those count towards.
It and then you've had to play one hundred games
minimum to be. Vested if you've got in four, years
even if three of them plus, year one hundred was
part of. It in The Major league baseball time, SERVED
i kind of like that time spent in the minor
leagues adding to. It as long as you've reached a
(02:33:10):
certain minimum to add to, that it's still. Baseball it's
still TRIPLE. A you're still in an, Organization you're still getting.
Paid who Drafted Bryce? Matthews who Drafted Bryce? Matthews what
do you mean THE gm But Dana? Brown it Was Dana. Yeah.
Speaker 8 (02:33:26):
Yeah and the other thing is too at the perception
of The astros farm. System you got to remember they
missed a couple of years of draft, picks so that hurt.
You but it is also to what kind of works
against them in this how well they've done in the international.
Speaker 1 (02:33:38):
Market. Yep and again they have guys that come up
that if you don't know where they was, drafted that
their performance you're, like this guy was this guy must
have been the fifteenth pick of the, draft, right and
oh he's a third, rounder he's a fifth, rounder he's
a fourth. ROUNDER i, mean that's, why even though it
hurt them not having that elite top of the line
(02:33:59):
pick where you could jump on that guy with with what,
happened they do a great job of the development leads to,
oh he's the third, rounder but he plays like he
performs like a first round and that's a good.
Speaker 8 (02:34:09):
Thing it's Like sparky said with us earlier this, Week,
hey draft position guys early, on and as good as
you are developing, pictures, well then you're gonna find some,
guys all.
Speaker 1 (02:34:18):
Right it's it's the. Truth so he's, like, oh, man
you found this, guy and not only a veteran coming,
here but a young guy that comes up and they
just they they raised. Them, well let's put it that.
Speaker 8 (02:34:30):
Way it's definitely worked out for. Sure someone three, two, one, two,
five seven ninety the number to get in. Again the
storyline that just won't go, away and oh my, GOSH
i wish it. Would we'll talk about it. Here it
Is Sean Salisbury, Show Sports talk seven, Ninety.
Speaker 4 (02:34:46):

Speaker 1 (02:34:48):
Great and right now listen to More Sean. Salisbury that's your, job,
man could you get paid for him?
Speaker 2 (02:34:54):
Up pro tip From houston's Official listen while scrubbing your
butt sports.
Speaker 8 (02:35:00):
Show, Usually i've got my, usual you, know gang of
Websites i'll go, through and one of them Was The,
chronicle AND i guess that a few of the writers
took a tour of The astrodome again and then they
did a follow up story of what's to become of The.
Astrodome this is the story, that honestly like at this,
(02:35:22):
Point i'm just, like just figure out something to do
and just go with it and just be done with.
IT i don't need any more presentations, about, hey this
could be a great event, space it could be a,
hotel it could be. Whatever, possibly, hey let's just demolish.
It at this, Point i'm just, like just make a, Decision,
well do, something but don't leave. It it's pretty. SIMPLE
i was not born. HERE i have, it AND i
(02:35:45):
know it has meaning to some and all that IT'S i,
MEAN i don't at the least tear it. Down at
the least tear it. Down you can find you can
find everybody loves real. ESTATE i can find something to
do with. IT i, understand but, honestly does it really?
(02:36:05):
Fit D are you really fired up when you drive
by it all the time and, say, man.
Speaker 6 (02:36:12):
What a?
Speaker 1 (02:36:12):
Building it's just. THERE i mean you can do, that
take a, picture video it and say what it meant to?
You stick in your phone and tear the building, down
turn it into A everybody has a suggestion indoor this
indoor water. Park. Bars, WELL i can tell you this
one thing that they're going to need to. Do if
they don't move that stadium over in that, area they
have to upgrade bars and, restaurants make it a destination
(02:36:35):
spot that's not just tailgating on. Set there's zero to
do around that ballpark or that. Stadium, Zero. Okay AND
i know it's, history AND i know a lot of
memories made. There there's a lot of memories made it
a lot of, ballparks there's a lot of memories made
In oakland At Oakland Alameda County. COLISEUM a lot of.
Them guess what that they're not playing there anymore and
at some point, time you know what they're going to
(02:36:55):
do that. Place take it down the damn right they.
Are SO i understand and maybe in sensitive to. SOMEBODY
i JUST i, MEAN i understand we all have sentimental. Feelings,
hell my conference is no longer a conference THAT i
played with Sentimental, yeah it. Sucked i'm gonna miss. It
that's WHERE i grew up on the trophan in The
big ten and they're not a. Pack, okay what do
(02:37:16):
you mean it's? Sentimental BUT i got the memories of.
IT i don't know why driving down The free we
have to Let oh what a. Building, no it's, ugly
it's an eye. Sore it's had great. Memories but like
anything great, memories you move on to the next. Memory
so for me THIS i know people hold, on can't let.
Go it's the strangest phenomenon in this there is in this.
Time it's, like, oh we got to preserve, it all?
(02:37:39):
Right what do you then come? Up then buy it
and come up and do. Something BUT i WOULD i
just soon have a district where it was like your
place to go eat a bunch of different meals or
kind of like Around Arlington, ballpark are kind of In
atlanta Or Saint, louis and then it will enhance the
football vibe, too because in, truth the football vibe is
great tailgating and a great. Team now let's match it
(02:38:01):
with some great restaurants and bars and build around. There
what a better place to do. IT i just don't
understand how people's why they can't let go of this.
Building memories are, great but that's its, history and you
know what history. Is it's, done it stays. There you
can put it in a, book write a book about,
it take pictures all you. Want BUT i just don't
understand the that you just can't let. GO i, mean
(02:38:24):
it's almost like we're. Hoarding, okay this isn't The Great. Wall,
okay this. Isn't this ISN'T i, MEAN i know it
was a wonder of the world it felt like when
it was, built AND i get, it but that's the
figure that's exactly. Right but guess what did this no? Longer?
Now when you look at it next to certain, state
it's like eighth to. Water, HELL i didn't even. KNOW
i wouldn't fit in. That that fit in a wonderbread
(02:38:46):
a holder. Now SO i just don't understand the infatuation
with having to keep it up just to stare at.
Speaker 8 (02:38:51):
It, WELL i, mean if we're keeping score, here wouldn't
it be the ninth wonder because Wasn't King kong the
Eighth wonder of the.
Speaker 1 (02:38:56):
World, yeah, yeah that's about the. Truth so you know
now the only wonder is wonder why it's still standing.
Speaker 13 (02:39:03):
There.
Speaker 1 (02:39:03):
OKAY i JUST i get. IT i love sentimental. STUFF
i love old, BALLPARKS i love old golf. COURT i
get all of. It but you know what they, there
it's it's it's, time, okay and it's a long overdue.
Speaker 8 (02:39:18):
Well and it is the nostalgia part of. IT i
mean BECAUSE i grew up going. There those are my first.
GAMES a lot of people who live in the, city but.
Speaker 1 (02:39:26):
When you drive, by to you the sentimental feelings hit
every time you drive by the.
Speaker 8 (02:39:29):
Freeway, no LIKE i could still drive by where you,
know the HOUSE i grew up, in BUT i don't
drive by it all the.
Speaker 1 (02:39:35):
TIME i just thought once and was just, like, okay
so somebody else is now it's not. Mine all four
sentimental all for what it means in nostalgia of. It
but guess, what sometimes you just got to shelve it
and move on to something else and create new memories
in the building or in the. Area and that area
needs an upgrade. Period the whole area with bars, restaurants
(02:39:55):
upgrade at the stadium that, area and if you're not
gonna upgrade, it move, it, fine then do. That but
that place is not a destination spot unless there's a
football game going. On it's just. Not and tell me
the last TIME i could tell you, THIS i have never,
ever ever in my what thirteen years or whatever it,
is being, HERE i have never twelve, years yeah it is.
(02:40:17):
TWELVE i have never gone over to that area just
specifically to eat a meal or be, entertained UNLESS i
was over there for something. Else, yeah and they can
make it look great and do some, stuff but over
over in that it needs an, upgrade the upgrade to
match the success that this team's going to. Have that
(02:40:37):
people want to go in that area a place where
you can go even if there's not a. Game that's.
It but you're not going over there for anything but
to watch football or unless you live in the. Area
other than, that even if you live in, There i'm
sure you'd like an upgrade in.
Speaker 3 (02:40:49):
That.
Speaker 1 (02:40:49):
WELL i love the memories and the, nostalgia then the,
iceore it's time to move on from it and do something.
Speaker 8 (02:40:54):
Else PLUS i dislocated my EBow on the. Afterroturf there you.
Go so that's nostalgic, too but it's. Right oh, yeah,
No i'm.
Speaker 1 (02:41:01):
Good there you. Go they're both working. Great got A
Jeff bagwell signed ball out of. It so, well there you.
Go there's your nostalgia and now time to move. On
there you.
