Speaker 1 (00:02):
Salisbury, Oh by Salisbury.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
Okay, let's do this.
Speaker 3 (00:08):
Sewn Salisbury to USC Troves, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury, Dan Matthews.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
This is the Sewan Salisbury Show.
Speaker 4 (00:23):
Good morning here on the Seawan Salisbury Show. Sports Talk
seven ninety. Astros off last night Texans. Well, a little
bit of news yesterday that we'll get into, and also
much more to get to here on the show today.
Chris Gordy, you gonna join us for his Tuesday visit
nine am, courtesy at Carbach Brewing. But the Strows, as
(00:45):
I mentioned, gonna be back at it tonight against the Rockies.
We talked a lot about that yesterday. But Sean, you know,
the last few weeks, I mean, just with the way
that the astro season is going, because frankly, there's been
some sort of news every single day, like we just
you know, for us not being out at Texans training
(01:06):
camp or you know, just honestly, I think a lot.
Speaker 1 (01:10):
Of that stuff too.
Speaker 4 (01:11):
That people it's just okay talk to me when games
start because NFL fans are desensitized to the preseason.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
It's no longer.
Speaker 4 (01:19):
It never really was, but it especially now is no
longer about oh hey, football's back like now, it's kind
of a second week of September.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
Football's back.
Speaker 5 (01:30):
Yeah for me, I be honest with you, watch it
because I watched, and I watch clips or when you
see okay, I want to see this group or this
guy play ten snaps. I don't know what will give me.
I don't even know one score of the Texans games
in the preseason. I didn't know what the record.
Speaker 4 (01:45):
I mean, just the one that I can remember off
the top of my head is the one that happened
on Saturday, because they won twenty six to seven.
Speaker 5 (01:51):
I knew, I knew it was one sided. But I
don't know the scores of the games.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
I didn't.
Speaker 5 (01:56):
I don't remember the scores of the games in the
preseason I ever played. In the day after I put
what we won yesday? Yeah, you threw two touchdowns?
Speaker 1 (02:04):
Whatever?
Speaker 5 (02:04):
Yeah, I don't. I don't. I don't have any idea.
So you're looking through it all, You're talking to people
and watching and keeping an eye on the thing I'm
keeping an eye on most on is progress of a
certain position this week?
Speaker 1 (02:17):
Does that make sense? Sure?
Speaker 5 (02:19):
Injuries and just the overall buzz, how you feel about them,
keeping an eye on them like you know, my thought
process this whole training camp has been this minimal thoughts
about defense because I think they're really I think they're
prepared to take another step. Now if there's a body
that you add to it and say, okay, when's Christian
Harris going to be back on the field on a
regular basis?
Speaker 6 (02:38):
Right?
Speaker 5 (02:38):
And then you look at the For me, it's been
offensive line and getting Joe Mixon and make sure the
running back position is ready to go. That's that's really
been it. So when you say, hey, what was the
score game? I don't have any idea, but you're right
about not a decent sized fans, former players and media
members as well. At least for me, it's the season
to me, now the preseason we're getting ready to start.
(03:00):
We're in game plan mode now, I know the final
cuts today, right, today's fire yesterday or today final cuts
and this week and then now you're putting game planing.
Now we had to start talking matchups. This is it
so for me because of especially when you're a really
good baseball town and everything else that goes on. I'm
not honestly football mode. NFL mode now is kicked in
(03:24):
pay attention to all of it. We got it, We
got to talk on all these shows, you got to
do it, but not the deep dive that you'd think
that maybe somebody who's into fantasy and all that stuff,
which I am now, but you get My point is
that I'm not. As It's like the draft, Dan, we
go into it, everybody wants to speculate and we all
talk about it and you get called I get it.
But the truth of the matter is, very few people
are giving you the insight on Slippery Rocks slot receiver
(03:46):
if he's a six round pick.
Speaker 4 (03:48):
Because most people don't know, right they saw a couple
of highlights of the guy and.
Speaker 5 (03:53):
His break because I saw him burst two times against
Bowling Green. Okay, I get it, But nothing wrong with
Bowling Greater Slippery Rocks think like you can't in fairness,
you can't know everyone, right, But if you're mel Kiper
and you're putting it down in a draft but good,
that's great then right. But my point is, I don't
all that stuff now coming out of the draft. Now,
I can tell you after watching those players, those college players,
(04:15):
how they fit into a system.
Speaker 7 (04:16):
Right.
Speaker 5 (04:17):
Sure, when you draft somebody, how Jackson Dart's gonna fit
with the New York Giants and that depth chart and
all that, it's the same thing with this now coming
out of preseason. Who made the team? Now you fit? Okay,
where's the depth? Where's the weakness? If there is an injury,
what's gonna happen. We've expanded the running back room in
a big way, but you hope the big dog is
one hundred percent healthy. Those are the things I'm keeping
(04:37):
an eye on now. So you're right to me, it matters.
The preseason matters. That guy who got cut on the
final cut sure does. Hell yeah, it matters. But as
far as from me, the overall from this job's perspective,
from the sensitive perspective, I know what it's like because
I've been there. But on the other side from that,
I just now when you set the fifty three man
roster and now we can go and now we're game planning,
(04:59):
and it's to me, now it starts to be real.
Speaker 4 (05:02):
The last cuts, so Mixon is not going to be
ready to go for the season. And you mentioned today
as the roster cutdown days, so this is also where
you know you put people on short term I L
I R.
Speaker 1 (05:15):
You know, see, you know those I words, I L
I R.
Speaker 4 (05:18):
You get what I'm saying, But right exactly not able
to play or riding a bicycle, all all of those things. Well,
I love this from the NFL dot com story about mixing.
Mixon missed the Texans offseason program while dealing with the
injury foot which he suffered while working out this offseason.
The injury was repeatedly downplayed by the club this spring
(05:41):
and summer. I outwardly I understand that statement. But the
Nick Chubbs signing in the Woody Marks draft pick, they
didn't downplay it. They knew exactly what was going on.
They just didn't have to tell us about it because
you don't have to report injuries at that point. Well
now you do, so now you're in it, so you know.
(06:04):
I guess we'll find out a little bit more as
time goes on, and just if it's just gonna be
the four weeks, because I mean, I unless he starts
getting out there and starts running and doing all that
kind of stuff, I mean, is this sticks seven eight weeks.
Speaker 5 (06:19):
I'm gonna tell you, I would have never thought this
when camp started, especially since he wasn't working. Excuse me,
I always like to see Okay, it's Joe Mixon and
be ready to go. Well, I don't think we knew.
They may have known, I don't think we knew that
it was gonna be this long. The significance of that,
I think we thought rest and the precisely I wouldn't
have played him in the preseason anyway.
Speaker 1 (06:37):
If he's hell, I don't need my star. I don't
need McCaffrey or he got beat up enough lash shadow.
Speaker 5 (06:41):
I don't need that from him or Derek Henry or
Saquon Bark, the guys, the young Woody Marks.
Speaker 1 (06:45):
Let's get him the work, right. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (06:48):
Well, now that it's more when I say, more serious,
a little longer lasting, and appears more serious than it was,
I'm concerned about it now, I am. I'm concerned about
the position because as good as Damian pierces, he can't
handle the load by himself.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
He just can't.
Speaker 5 (07:03):
He's not in every down back, he's not any but
he's contributing on special teams and really he's gotten better,
which it says to him because they went out and
got mixing, went out and got then the next year
go out get Nick chubbed, and he's and Pierce is
still here, so he's fought off because it would have
been easy to say, we got those two guys. This
kid was a pretty high draft pick. Let's go trade
(07:24):
him for somebody and get him where he can go
play more snaps. But he's really gotten become a more
versatile player. What he marks you see, dude, I can
tell you from watching him at SC the guy. The
guy is one of those guys that at the end
you come out of If all of a sudden three
guys were hurt and he was carrying the load, I
wouldn't be shocked. I mean, he's one of those guys
that's it's a good find, let's put it that way
(07:45):
in this draft, and has that potential. But I'm concerned
because they go from in my opinion as deeper running
back and is good a running back one and two?
But here is still the questions exist. Well, Nick Chubb,
while he looks like he's a beast, but he is
coming off an injury. Right, He's been reh having an
injury and is on a new team. So yes, which
(08:07):
should be a strong running back room and a deep
one and a powerful one without Joe Mixon. This is different, dude,
It's different in the It should he they should see that.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
This should even be.
Speaker 5 (08:21):
Expanding the pass game with mixing in there. They haven't
did uh slok. They did not use him enough in
the pass game. Oh, they said they were going to.
They'll have a screen game and in the option game.
The guy is a hell of a route runner and
a really good in space guy, and I don't think
they utilize that. And that's another thing that I wanted
to see that expansion this year because you can get
Joe doing other stuff and you got another pounded back
(08:42):
and Chubb. I'm more concerned about this than I than
I thought i'd be, and I didn't. If anything, I thought, okay,
maybe Joe doesn't get a lot of work in game one,
but they're gonna be okay because they've got Chubb. But now,
if this is a significant length of injury, now you're
now you're basing it now on that Nick Chubb's injury
is healthy, He's gonna go back to being two hundred
carry Nick Chubb guy, right or whatever it was in
(09:04):
Cleveland that made him a Pro Bowl type player. And
then after that you're relying on a third year guy.
But a third was he of going his fourth year
now is his fourth year already for Piercer's third believe
it's fourth fourth, Yeah, fourth year.
Speaker 1 (09:16):
So you're early.
Speaker 5 (09:17):
You're relying on a You're relying on a guy who's
not in every down back but has burst and his goods,
a good fill in guy and can start for you,
but you don't want twenty five touches a game for him.
And then then there's a rookie that that's your room.
And I know, I said, well, it's good to have depth,
but the guy at the top is when he's healthy,
is one of the biggest beasts in the league and
(09:39):
could be utilized even more if they do it right.
So I'm concerned about this man, I am, well, they
can they survive it? Yes, of course, that's why you win.
Got Nick Chubb And you're right, that's why Mark. They
had an idea that there was going to be a
delay or that something was up, or they wouldn't do this.
Speaker 1 (09:53):
Nick Casea is not stupid.
Speaker 5 (09:55):
They get it, and they follow off season programs and
all that, and I think they know what a stud
mixing isn't what he brings to the table, but that's
a healthy Joe Mixon, Well, I mean, and we've seen
he's been durable as hell for the most part in
his career.
Speaker 4 (10:07):
Sure, And I mean we've seen injuries happen during off
season workouts, anything of the sword. I mean, gosh, you
know the Astros. We saw it happen with Lance mccullor's junior.
He's working out in the in the weight room and
then all of a sudden, uh oh, he rolled his
foot or you know whatever, whatever the hell happened and
he went on the Ilso they do happen, but with
(10:27):
mixing this just almost feels like it was not enough
recovery from the season, more banged up from the season
than we even thought was the case. And I mean
some sort of wear and tear that allowed for this
to happen. I mean, the fact that you're going to
miss a month of the season, that you're not going
to be ready, that's concerning enough.
Speaker 1 (10:49):
Uh yeah.
Speaker 5 (10:50):
And then when you get back, how long does it
take to get in football mode?
Speaker 1 (10:54):
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (10:55):
I mean, remember, now, no matter how hard you train
without pads on, the training is different. There's a guy's
called being in physical shape and then being in physical shape.
Speaker 1 (11:05):
That's exactly right now, Joseph.
Speaker 5 (11:07):
The one thing about him, one of his biggest strengths
is he's as physical and nasty as theirs on the
field when he's playing, he runs hard. But you still
got to get into that. Fortunately, the Nick Chubb get
if it's right, and the other two fellas you know,
Pierces advanced another year in the offense and gets it
and because it's similar verbage to the previous coordinator. And
then what he marks is is as good as we
(11:29):
think he can be as a guy who wasn't a
first round draft pick, and he and he and he's
got you know, they know how to run the football
at Southern cal If nothing, I mean, they do know
that they know offense there, and he's a good player.
Speaker 1 (11:40):
So I'm anxious.
Speaker 5 (11:41):
But this is this is a this is bothersome to me,
and it should be a concern to the Texans fans
and it should be a concerned to the Texans how
they're going to do this. Honestly, Joe Mixon is a
huge piece of this team's puzzle on offense.
Speaker 4 (11:53):
Yeah, like I said, I mean you could probably guess
that inside the building they were anticipating something like this,
But I'm not really sure that they anticipated it to
this level. So Joe Mixon gonna miss at least the
first four games of this season. You want to get
in on the Texans conversation seven one three two one
two five seven ninety against seOne three two one two
five seven ninety Sean, in life, sometimes you got to
(12:17):
learn hard lessons, and in the case of the Texans,
I think that they have learned from said lessons. We'll
discuss that here as we're just getting going on a
Tuesday edition Shawn Salisbury Show, Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 5 (12:31):
Miss High Fastball mccler's junior review is just an Astros
You're listening to Sean Salisbury on Sports Talk seven ninety
Book Colors.
Speaker 1 (12:38):
How about the performance.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
Your home for Houston Astros baseball.
Speaker 4 (12:44):
I mean, after this season, you think even if the Bengals, hey,
we want to talk long term deal, Trey Hendrickson is
gonna be so you.
Speaker 5 (12:52):
Know what, don't let him go get fifteen to sixteen
sacks this year?
Speaker 1 (12:55):
Well, which he's capable to do it.
Speaker 4 (12:56):
I was gonna say, I mean he could do that,
and then I mean then at that point, power to
the player, well, because then you're out there and everybody,
it's like, hey, how about forty five per It's.
Speaker 5 (13:08):
That old fram oil filter commercial for the old folks
and older When I say old folks of the veterans listening,
meaning veterans that are veterans in the industry of long
time a living. That the fram oil filter commercial. You
might have caught it with your parents, know is it
the old Uh? You can pay me now or pay
me later, you know if you get the oil filter
which is seven bucks now instead of pay me later,
(13:31):
which is going to cost you a whole new engine.
Speaker 4 (13:32):
Yeah here, right, here's a whole dossie of how you
need to fix your car, right, really right with dolls
you had to do. Yeah, let me just go get
the twenty dollars that I have to fix all of this.
Speaker 5 (13:44):
Replace some ofd some filter, some oil filter. Right, that
would have saved you. You would have spent twenty five bucks.
Speaker 1 (13:50):
On or whatever. And it's the same thing here.
Speaker 5 (13:53):
Okay, it's an expense, but you could have he could
have been in camp the whole time.
Speaker 1 (13:56):
The Bengals, Now, it's crazy.
Speaker 5 (13:57):
Is for an organizations it's always known as being cheap, No, dude,
that's the one an embarrassment for those congratulations, you're being honored. Yeah,
you find your own flight. I was gonna say, here's
tickets everything else, Well I have to buy them. Okay,
I mean, Boomer can buy a ticket. But the problem
it's just the like you're honoring. That's what I'm saying.
(14:20):
It's called uh not only you know, know the room,
but more importantly is the I mean, good gracious, this
guy has been a fixture in your organization.
Speaker 1 (14:31):
You are calling him to buy a plane ticket. Now,
well buy a plane ticket.
Speaker 5 (14:36):
It's called the principle of the matter is you're honoring.
You don't ask a guy to come and I'm gonna hey,
we're at the uh, we're at the Academy Awards.
Speaker 1 (14:43):
We'd like to fly. We're making you the you're the host.
Speaker 5 (14:46):
Okay, cool, but can you grab you can fly yourself
in a final place to stay right.
Speaker 1 (14:50):
Wait a minute, I thought you're making me the host here.
Speaker 5 (14:53):
Yeah, but that's cool, you're good, right, No, okay, satellite.
The whole point of somebody is the premise that you're
going to take care of it. That's part of honoring them, right, yeah,
bring here, you know, roll out the red cart. Before
he Boomer was a great player for them. But in
the case of Trey Hendrickson, you know, it is that
pay me now or pay me later, because now, I mean,
(15:14):
it takes expensive, but it's expensive to have the best
pass rushers and is consistent. A pass rusher as there's
been in the league last three or four years, has
been Trey Hendrickson.
Speaker 1 (15:22):
So at thirty million year.
Speaker 5 (15:24):
But had they had just taken care of this sooner
now they paid Burrow when they paid Chase, but not
without a fight as always as in Cincinnati. But the
rest of it's like, okay, and with your best defensive
player on a defense that desperately needs that struggles even
with him at times, but he upgrades them. Just just
take it because egos and plays lights out. It's going
to cost you far more than an oil filter.
Speaker 6 (15:44):
You know what.
Speaker 4 (15:45):
Mike Brown is the owner of the Bengals. I mean
I was talking about inviting people. Yeah, he's the one. Hey, Sean,
let's go to lunch. Oh cool, okay, yeah, yeah, you know,
I mean he sits there when the bill comes. You
invited me out? Well, not sits there when the bill comes.
Hey we're split. Oh yeah, it says, Hey, it's one
hundred bucks fifty each. Yeah, and the tip tip twenty percent.
So yeah, so it's sixty dollars each.
Speaker 1 (16:08):
I guess, But I mean you invited me.
Speaker 4 (16:10):
So, like the the whole point of inviting someone is that,
you know, like if I if I say, Sean, let's
go to lunch, well.
Speaker 1 (16:18):
They're playing for myself. Yeah, if you say let's go.
Speaker 5 (16:20):
But if you say, hey, man, I want to I
got a business proposal I want to talk to about.
Speaker 1 (16:24):
Come on, I got ian to treat you to lunch. Well, see,
there you go.
Speaker 4 (16:28):
I think there's that, But it's also too it's it's
there's a difference between an invite and an arrangement because
like an invite is you know, hey, you know, come
eat me for lunch, you know, and and and that
that's the old you know, man, I got it, you
know all all of that, whereas you know, hey, I'm
thinking of stepping over to lunch. Do you you know,
do you want to join with me?
Speaker 5 (16:47):
Right, there's there's believe you know, the direct invite as
opposed to a couple of us are going over there,
come on and Josh, we're gonna grab a beer in
the sandwich.
Speaker 1 (16:53):
Can go, Yeah, exactly, go over to a place you
grab a sandwich and some chips. Listen, I got pay
for What are you doing tomorrow noon?
Speaker 5 (16:58):
Well nothing, I got some great ideas to build this
new brand, this new company. Bam, I want to run by. Yeah,
i'd like I want to run buy you. Uh, it's
a pitch. I I you automatic, I automatically know going
I'm buying lunch. That's just the way it's supposed to be.
But that is the Cincinnatilist. Either here or there, they
get it done, and he's a happy camper. I'm sure
for it. If not for the struggle that another pass
(17:21):
rusher is going through right now, that will get done
eventually as well.
Speaker 4 (17:23):
Who knew that an organization that doesn't pay players in
their own division they decided that a long time ago
with t J. Watt and I'm talking about Steelers notorious
for that. Yeah, I mean, they'll take care of their guys,
but for the most part, they're not going to get ridiculous.
Speaker 1 (17:36):
Steelers rarely overpay.
Speaker 4 (17:38):
Yes, let's put it out, and in this case they
probably did. But they also realized, Hey, one of the
most dynamic defensive players in the game, we probably need
to keep that guy around, especially when for about the
better part of the last ten years we haven't had
a quarterback.
Speaker 5 (17:50):
Yeah, since since Ben left, it's been a roller coast Siberias.
Speaker 4 (17:54):
Yeah yeah, absolute Siberia, no doubt. And one of their
former guys, well now he's a Raider. So got that
going for you, which is nice.
Speaker 1 (18:01):
But with the.
Speaker 4 (18:04):
Texans, as that mentioned, you know, learning lessons from the past,
and I let let's let's hop in the Dolorean here
really quick, because I want to take you back to
January of twenty twenty four. It was after you just
lost to the Ravens, and I remember that press conference
after locker clean out day, all that kind of stuff. Hey,
the season's over, this is what we didn't do well,
(18:25):
this is what we need to do better coming in
next year. Texans did the exact same thing after they
lost it the Chiefs last season. But I remember Demiko
Ryan's up at the podium talking about their deficiencies up front,
and it wasn't on the offensive side at the time.
He was talking about defensively. He said, you could see
that in the second half, we got worn down, we
got beat. If you're gonna win this league, you gotta
win there. So what the Texans do over the off season,
(18:47):
Denico Autry is signed, just other additions made to the
defensive line to be able to enforce that group and
make that group a lot more formidable than it was
in his first season. Fine, so then this last year
where you had one running back this last year Joe Mixon,
and clearly we're seeing how that went. Because then this
(19:09):
offseason you draft a guy what he marks, You sign
a guy Nick Chubb. You've still got Demian Pierce here,
You've still got Daria Goombuwallee and then also too, I
mean Juir Jordan and a couple of the younger guys
that you have that might still have a chance to
make this team but probably not. But still you've at
least enforced that position that Nick Cassario Demiko ryans. There's
(19:31):
always a meeting even before the press conference or even
after the press conference, where probably you've got Demiko at
the head of the table, you got Nick Cassario probably
either sitting next to him on either side, but of
looking at him and saying we've got to be deeper
at that spot next year, that has to happen. There's
attrition at that spot. You can't just have one guy.
(19:52):
It's easy to rely on one guy, but you're clearly
seeing right now what happens when you rely on one guy.
And they clearly made the decision, Oh, we need to
have numbers there because at least, if nothing else, we
need to fight at least against that temptation to just
roll with one guy.
Speaker 1 (20:08):
Yeah, and it's going to be.
Speaker 5 (20:11):
Incumbent upon them to make sure they don't abandon a
run game or it's easy for an offensive course and saying, Okay,
I know we got a rookie, another guy who's not
at every down back and Nick Chubb coming off an
injury to stay what has always been a forty nine er.
Sean McVay, Kyle Shanahan, Staple Good. They want to run
(20:34):
the ball. They always want to run the ball, and
I would imagine here they're going to want to do
the same thing. They want to run the ball, no
matter how good the quarterback is. And that's how you win.
Speaker 1 (20:43):
Oh, if Phil was up to Demiko, it'd be two
runs to one pass.
Speaker 2 (20:46):
Yeah, you want to run the ball.
Speaker 5 (20:47):
And Kyle the Shanahan's and that that tree that you
see this act that they want, they want to run
the football, and even then it makes even if you
have a great quarterback even better.
Speaker 1 (20:56):
So but you can't. Okay, man, Joe's out for what
are we going to do?
Speaker 2 (21:01):
Now?
Speaker 5 (21:01):
You're gonna have to make some adjustments on you know,
how you get the football to these guys, and you're
probably gonna have to see more of what he marks
than you thought you'd see.
Speaker 1 (21:09):
This early in the season. And that's okay.
Speaker 5 (21:12):
But what it does, it gives you your fortunate because
if Nick Chubb, I'm just telling you that, I know
there's an if here. If Nick Chubb's Cleveland Brown's Pro
Bowl Nick Chubb, when Joe Mixon gets back that two
added monsters nasty, Nick Chubb may not come off the
damn field a lot because that's how physical. Because the
one thing I know about Demiko Ryens he doesn't he
doesn't want to play pillow fight. Okay, good defensive players
(21:34):
and guys. It goes back to what he's saying about
being able to withstand the physical punishment late in the season.
To keep your legs on, you've got to get bigger
and stronger, and you got to be more physical. And
his running backs are both that, but Nick Chubb and
I'm actually I hate seeing it because Joe's hurt, but
I'm anxious to see what his burst looks like. You know,
that that first step and the burst and the physicality
(21:56):
that he's always run with. Because if you can, if
you implementing that on this team, there's another level of
this team, even offensively that we haven't seen, even with
Joe here, because that gives you, that gives you a
double dose of it. So it is it's it's a
bummer to lose mixing, but they're banking on the fact
that if if this is one hundred percent Nick Chubb,
(22:19):
I'm just telling you that this ends up being a
comeback Player of the Year type player.
Speaker 1 (22:24):
Honest to God. That's how he's got that.
Speaker 5 (22:26):
He's got that in and where you look back and say, damn,
he rushed for thirteen hundred and thirteen hundred yards twelve
hundred and fifty yards and caught forty balls. But man,
what a difference he was in helping us to close
games out. He's got that thump at him so and
then hopefully and then it doesn't force Joe to have
to speak. I mean, he can go at the process
the process that you take to get yourself fully healthy.
(22:47):
Right this is I'm telling you that I told you
I thought it was one of the more important gets
this offseason, not just here, but in a lot of places.
Underrated get and now here underrated goes to in the
focus and spot like right now. And Nick Chubb is
ready for it. As long as he's healthy, You're not
going to lose much much Stump in the middle. Matter
(23:07):
of fact, he's he'll run it every bit as tough
as Joe will inside depth.
Speaker 1 (23:12):
It's better to have it and not need it than
need it and not have it. Yep, for sure.
Speaker 4 (23:15):
So that's what Texans have right now at the receiver spot.
Is that the only one though that they have tried
to do their best to be able to make good
on from last season. We'll discuss that here as we
continue the Texans conversation. You want to join us seven
one three two one two five seven ninety against seven
one three two on two five seven ninety Shaan Salisbury Show,
Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 5 (23:36):
Hey guys, On a recent podcast, a well respected business
leader said the best companies are ones that solve problems
in the market. Well, consider this new vehicle transaction prices
hover around forty eight thousand dollars. That's double where they
were in twenty ten. Affordability is a problem, and with
talks of tariffs and other noise, customers are looking for
a solution, and that solution is affordable monthly payment. Some
(23:58):
banks have dealt with this by extending financing terms out
to eighty four and even ninety six months. In fact,
over twenty percent of auto loans today are seven years long.
It's not a mortgage, folks. This is why more clients
are considering leasing than any other time in recent history.
And DNM Leasing is the nation's leasing leader with fifty
thousand satisfied clients on the road today. With forty nine
(24:19):
years in the business, we have experts that specialize in
YEP solving the high payment problem.
Speaker 1 (24:23):
With easy lease. That's easy lease with.
Speaker 5 (24:25):
No money down, payments significantly lower than buying and terms
that make sense. Why wouldn't you call DM leasing the
main thing? They'll visit them online, You'll get the information
you need. It's dmauto Leasing dot Com. That's dmauto Leasing
dot com. You can also call them at seven one three,
two nine zero one thousand. But remember Dmauto leasing dot
(24:46):
com affordability matters and DNM provides its e We're that
for The Sean Salisbury Show continues. I mean, I know
last week was week zero. I don't think you're ready.
Oh no, I'm ready. I don't think you're ready now
I'm ready. Sy to look at your eyes? You look
at your eyes, says I. I don't care about football season.
Speaker 4 (25:09):
Is it the sty or is it just you know?
I just I have a particular look right now. Is
that what that's called?
Speaker 1 (25:15):
Yeah? Yeah, bed sty? You ever been a bedsty vessel?
New York? So you got a stye in your eye?
Speaker 2 (25:22):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (25:22):
Well, you know what you cover it?
Speaker 4 (25:24):
Well, I'm trying to nah a little itchy but it's okay.
But it's not. It's not Do you take a right
cross from the triple? Throw right on you triple?
Speaker 5 (25:33):
Did you knock him out with the right He's got
a quick right I'll give him that. You know, he's
pretty good at it. But you're not ready for college football, dude.
I think it's too big. The stage might be too
big for you this years.
Speaker 4 (25:46):
These are falsehoods that I'm just not going to go.
This is complete now fake, it's it's fake.
Speaker 1 (25:52):
News. You fake news, you're Jim Acasta.
Speaker 5 (25:57):
It's tremendous college football see and much rather you hit
me with a ease nuts joke. All right, then tell
you you're not ready for college That's it. Yes, I
mean that to uh.
Speaker 1 (26:06):
Like I'll stand for certain insults, but this is not
what I will if.
Speaker 5 (26:10):
You get if you get Oki donked on the d's nuts.
Speaker 1 (26:12):
So it's fine.
Speaker 5 (26:13):
Sure, anybody to look you square the eye and in
late August, early September and tell you you're not ready
for college football.
Speaker 4 (26:19):
Being a college football just insult me professionally, insult me personally,
and if you to me personally, then I've got no
choice but then to.
Speaker 5 (26:27):
Fight back the emotional The emotional trauma causes you to
tell somebody, tell you're not ready for couch for m
f and Dan Matthews.
Speaker 1 (26:36):
You know what I'm saying. You make it personal, then
I can't help you. Did you plan for oh, plan
for these nuts on your forehead?
Speaker 5 (26:43):
Got his ass triple double?
Speaker 6 (26:46):
I gave it, DJ.
Speaker 1 (26:50):
I just I just want ready to it.
Speaker 4 (26:52):
I got to be more Josh Allen like on those okay,
just busting with the boys.
Speaker 1 (26:56):
Boys.
Speaker 5 (26:56):
But even though you just said you can give you
out of D's ducks jokes. I turn around and get
you out of these kind of tied into plan for
like you thought I meant playned for the college football sea.
Speaker 4 (27:05):
I knew the pitch that was coming, but still it
was just high cheese. Yeah, but dude, it's it's a
two oh count.
Speaker 1 (27:12):
I'm young, I'm That's what that was you.
Speaker 4 (27:17):
I knew that you were probably gonna throw a slider,
and I still even you know, up to and oh
in the count, which is.
Speaker 5 (27:22):
Very rarely ever up to in the count. So let
me get back through that on Twitter.
Speaker 4 (27:29):
And I was like, you know what, You're right, They're
like nobody falls behind the count, Like, yeah.
Speaker 1 (27:35):
He's never hitting his pitch.
Speaker 5 (27:37):
Uh but you, uh so, you were so focused on
how offended you were that somebody looked down that I
rolled up and looked in your kitchen and said turn
on your microwave and said, you're not ready for college.
And then you're so you're so focused on that. I
was able to to bamboozle you with the back door
Like you know, the back door slider. It hits on
(27:58):
the back toe for you. I was able to go
back to a Slider on you with the d's nuts
and got his ass.
Speaker 1 (28:03):
It's like, who was it in the Detroit You're I
mean you've been hit with you. I went left right
on you. I'm hazy against Charlie Morton where he got
hit by.
Speaker 5 (28:13):
The pitch, but so long yet I got him real
and TRIPLEI good, lord.
Speaker 1 (28:17):
I got him.
Speaker 5 (28:19):
College football has got him. Like, what are you talking
about to a straight right with the d's nuts joke? Yeah,
got me good? You got you tagged me pretty good
right there. Okay, so you got the standy gate count.
You're up and ready to go.
Speaker 1 (28:32):
So what were you going to.
Speaker 5 (28:33):
Sell me out about college football even though you're not ready?
Speaker 8 (28:36):
Well?
Speaker 4 (28:36):
No, I mean I'm ready, But I mean I'm just
saying that Chris Gordy's gonna be ready to so he'll
be in addition to the astros conversation, Well yeah, we'll definitely.
Speaker 5 (28:43):
You might have to have an sec off here with
you guys. I think so too.
Speaker 4 (28:47):
I mean he you know, just with the cred that
he's got with the locked on show, I would say
that he's probably a little bit more mister sec.
Speaker 1 (28:53):
Although I mean you.
Speaker 5 (28:55):
Guys have battle it out though. Yeah, you guys, will
you guys are single out for thee if.
Speaker 1 (29:00):
We can have a knockdown.
Speaker 4 (29:01):
But I mean when it comes to, you know, some
of the programs like you know, I don't know Mississippi
State or somebody like that. The one Mississippi State fan
out there listening right now is probably like, hey man,
how dare you.
Speaker 1 (29:11):
Respect built? Although I disrespect them either they did.
Speaker 5 (29:18):
Yeah, man, I'm actually really pumped for this week, aren't
you very much?
Speaker 4 (29:23):
And it's gonna start on Thursday. You get the Koog's
and you get Steven F. F Auston on Thursday night
and then bottle A too. Well, I got dollar Bill
on Labor Day too. Bill Belligie is and do we
get to watch him on it?
Speaker 6 (29:35):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (29:35):
And I didn't even realize that that's a home and home.
So this year they're going to be in Chapel Hill
and then next year it's Fort Worth, which here here's
the even better one, Bill Belichick on the sidelines next year,
I say, no, I think I think he does his
one year, he gets his, he gets his coaching itch.
Speaker 1 (29:53):
And then the NFL Yeah, no, no, no, just do you.
Speaker 5 (29:56):
Think one and done? What if they go if they
go nine and three.
Speaker 4 (30:00):
They could, because that schedule is just an absolute disgrace.
So yeah, they very well could.
Speaker 1 (30:05):
I see. I think the other way.
Speaker 5 (30:07):
I think if they go good, I think it's going
to feed his that it's like add and throwing a
little to a match on a gasoline, where it's like
it'll it'll even rejuvenate him more that I can do
this in college too. And I'm about to show you
because if he can do that now, if it's one
of those beat down at NIL people transferring and they're
(30:27):
seven and five, it's like that may get to the
point where Nick calls him up said, dude, you really
want to do that. Get your ass back with Peyton
Manning on Omaha Productions and let's do this and we'll
have some fun.
Speaker 3 (30:36):
You know.
Speaker 5 (30:36):
I can see that happening. But I can also see
if they're if it's teaser and he gets that feel
again where it's like, okay, a good quarterback. We're successful there,
we're doing it. We've got they're spending money on n
L I nil, but Bill's controlling it, you know, So
guys and still get in the NFL. Get in the
NFL field. Yeah, Bill and Mike can finish each other sentences,
(30:58):
you know, for all these years. So then I think
you're going to tease him with the chance that can
you imagine Bill taking North Carolina to a playoff and that?
But think about with that. You know, Carolina is Carolina Blue.
This is Dean Smith's school. It's not supposed me Mac
Brown was there, did a good thing. But you give
my point Belichick to do that. Don't think for one
(31:19):
second he doesn't relish stuff like he didn't talk about
stuff like that, But dude, that that stuff drives him.
He ain't there to be average. So we'll see how
it works in North Carolina. He's in the right conference
to make ahead, to make headwave right now, he's coaching,
isn't he? And what do coaches have egos? Oh, there's
no question about it. Well if they didn't, they wouldn't
be any good. Sure, as long as you can, as
long as you can get people to buy into whatever
(31:40):
it is you're teaching. And Bill's been able to get
that most of his h most of his career. And
I'm telling you what with all the talk about SEC
and Big ten, do you know what you know, who's
the team that outside of that that I would think
that has a legitimate shot to win this whole thing.
And as Dane maybe as good as anybody. They are
deep is Clemson's really good this year man and Caid
club Nick is a monster credit.
Speaker 1 (32:00):
Dao too, man.
Speaker 4 (32:00):
I mean he had his way and he actually did
jump into the transfer portal this year, so which is nice.
And he's never been against name, image and likeness either.
I mean, now that is like one of those things
that was out there of you know, oh he's not
he's not one of the outspoken I'm for it guys.
Speaker 1 (32:15):
I mean he always kind of has been right, and
he just listened.
Speaker 5 (32:18):
You get to appoint Skrzyzewski hated the one and done
when Calipari was doing it, and finally he said, well,
in order to keep up the rule, says I can,
so you got to go recruit him. And he started
to and and look what it's done. Now they're always
is it's and it's always been Duke been able to do.
But he resisted it. Calipari embraced it, and people embraced
the same thing here. Well, the rules like it is,
you don't have to love it, but you can embrace
(32:39):
it and utilize it. As much as you can to
your advantage.
Speaker 4 (32:41):
Remember I told you my buddy's line about the rules.
Don't complain about the rules, make them work for you.
I mean Nick Saban with the hurry up, no huddle offense.
Remember that for the longest time, Is this what we
want college football to be?
Speaker 1 (32:52):
Nope, you don't want He.
Speaker 5 (32:53):
Went and hired Sarkesian and lank Kiffin, and then he said, okay, fine,
if we're going to continue to do this, I will
do it too.
Speaker 1 (33:00):
I just have better athletes than me.
Speaker 5 (33:01):
Right, and I'm gonna go pluck two guys that run
it about as well as anybody in the world does,
and I'm gonna go get There's no doubt.
Speaker 1 (33:06):
Yeah, but I thought you were against it all They
never said.
Speaker 5 (33:09):
I was all the while hating it inside, which will
show him to retirement. But saying, well, can't beat him,
you got to join him. I might as well beat
him at their own game. And you always give him
a playing field, that is, he's when the playing field
is Normally he utilizes the playing field. Look out and
Belichick maybe the same way. I'm anxious to see. It's
a good sidebar to how he coaches this team and
(33:29):
what they look like, how I mean, how they line
up and how they play. We talk, Oh, they're going
to be like an NFL team, but they're eighteen, so
we'll see.
Speaker 1 (33:38):
The most jarring thing about Nick Saban is how short
he is.
Speaker 4 (33:41):
I remember the first time that that I was ever
around him in person. It was the Touchdown Club here
in Houston, and he came in to speak and you
see him walking down the hallway and I go, that's
not him, and then the guy next to me goes, no,
that's him.
Speaker 1 (33:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (33:54):
I was like, come on, man, yeah, that may be him.
But the one thing about it is while he's that,
he gets up there and starts talking and you're like,
uh huh, how's that presence?
Speaker 2 (34:02):
He's about seven to two.
Speaker 1 (34:05):
It's it's it's that.
Speaker 4 (34:06):
And it's also too if you ask a question that
either he doesn't understand or that kind of annoys him,
that's a bad place to me. And I've been there too,
So I asked him. I asked him a question. Once
you know what, we'll carry it over. Yeah, so let's
let's continue the college football talk the Texans as well,
helping out that receiver position. We'll get into that here
(34:27):
as So we continue along on the Sean Salisbury Show
on a Tuesday Sports Talk seven ninety. But I want
to tell you once again, and I can't tell you
enough about my good buddy, Kobe Stevens. We call him, yeah,
we call him Sparky. That's just how good of a
friend Kobe is. And he can be a friend to
you by making you look good on and off the course.
(34:50):
I've talked to you all the time about that summer line.
I mean, I understand, you know. Look, I see the
weather report. We got a cold front coming in. It's
gonna cool down a little bit. Temps next week are
still gonna be in the mid eighties. It's still going
to be summer tempts. So go ahead, jump on Kobe
Stevens dot Com right now for those great polos, T shirts, hats, shorts,
the ladies in youth options. They're in play as well,
(35:12):
right there at Kobe Stevens dot Com through Kobe Stevens Apparel.
In college football season, I mean, I'm ready for it.
I mean, Sean might try to tell you that I'm not,
but no, I've been ready for it. And now it
is jumping up in intensity even more because well I'm
looking at some of these polos that are out there.
I mean, you know that I'm one of the purple
and gold persuasions, So I'm gonna get me a purple
(35:33):
and gold one. It's available for pre order right now.
How about those of you that wear the burn orange

that's there too. Thursday night, you want to be looking
good heading into that stadium there in third ward, the

(35:55):
on and off the course, in that case, off the
course heading into a stadium and watching your favorite college
foot ball team play this fall. It's Kobe Stephens dot com,
Kobe Stevens dot com, cob Y Stevens with a VS
at the end dot com.
Speaker 2 (36:10):
You're this is the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 6 (36:13):
Get back at it.
Speaker 1 (36:16):
Place with that cut that we just had coming back
right there?
Speaker 7 (36:19):
Was that?
Speaker 1 (36:19):
Was that in vogue?
Speaker 4 (36:20):
When the high school photo that you shared with us
yesterday with the the free flowing redhair, that was I
didn't see.
Speaker 1 (36:28):
That out of you. I'm not a redhead.
Speaker 5 (36:30):
Okay, so what is that that made that happen? My
brown hairy is if you saw the sunlight on it,
maybe some warm highlights in it. Okay, the sun hits it.
But I wasn't a red I could show you other pictures.
You see the hoop picture somebody else had showed me
in high school. There was a guy who posted it,
showed me a hoop and hitting a jump shot over
(36:51):
a guy. And it's the same long locks and you
can see with a different lighting there it's just like
brown hair. Yeah, but I'm not a friggin redhead. Okay,
not there's anything wrong with it. No, not there's anything wrong,
But I'm not. I don't have red red hair. Nobody's
ever come to say, hey man, what's it like being
a redhead? Or on my license, it's always been in
(37:11):
the summer, it gets a little lighter, but it's like
light brown. But I've always had brown hair. Well, no longer.
I got a little bit of there's a little more
assault than there is brown now. But back then, yeah, yeah, damn,
don't bear the lead. It's not the it's not the
color of the hair. It was the have you seen
it is that one of the best high school hair,
because you have ever seen it was awesome.
Speaker 1 (37:30):
I mean it was flow, dude. The only thing you
were missing was like the beard to go.
Speaker 5 (37:34):
Yeah, I couldn't at that time. Dude, if I got
five hairs on my fan. I'm not a hairy guy,
so I wouldn't have been able to grow one. I
didn't have to. I didn't shave in high school. I
didn't have to, so but man, my locks were flowing, Dude, they.
Speaker 1 (37:47):
Were I don't even know how you put that helmet on.
Speaker 5 (37:50):
Dude, delicately pull it off, and the flowing and the shade,
you know, like on the commercial where they sha you
shake your head slow and the than the sweat kind
of flies off for the water, and you know it
just the sexy version of the seventeen year old John Salisbury. Okay,
that sounds kind of weird, doesn't it. I mean, you're
talking about yourself exactly what I'm allowed to. Yeah, yeah,
(38:10):
at eighteen year old. The eight year old version was
sex here, but that hair, you can go, yeah, sean
unfiltered and get a look at what might have been.
I don't want to brag, but let me for a
second that it could possibly be a Mount Rushmore flow.
Speaker 1 (38:25):
I'd agree with that.
Speaker 5 (38:27):
I mean, if you're saying, take the top person from
your class across the country during your high school year
to say show us your flow, I might be on
the Mount Rushmore.
Speaker 4 (38:37):
Yeah back then, I mean I was always a pretty
high and tight guy. But I just remembered that buddy
of mine was like, hey, you know, way you get
girls is grow your hair out. So for me, just
the the curly hair kind of deal. You know, it's
just just not not the same, like find straight hair
you know then than absolutely, I mean even even get
to a point like where maybe you do like a
(38:58):
Lance McCullers or you know, Spencer arraghetty thing where you
got to kind of do the man bun thing.
Speaker 5 (39:03):
Yeah, yeah, I've never got I've had my hair plenty
long when I was in the league, he belonged to
I've ponytailed it before. I just just you know, kind
of I didn't wear it a ponytail, but it was
plenty long to have ponytail and have four more inches
of hair hanging the back of the ponytail. But I
I uh that that flow was, uh, it is natural.
(39:24):
People pay big money for that you know what I'm saying, Gals,
go to Slan, say give me the curl and the
wave that.
Speaker 1 (39:31):
Sean had when he was able. That's it.
Speaker 4 (39:33):
Somebody is gonna go somebody's gonna go to the salon
now and they're going to show that picture.
Speaker 5 (39:38):
Yeah, give me that. I'd like those that I'd like
those waves and that curl. That was all natural to do.
And it wasn't red. I know, the flow looked like
it was. This was the sunlight, the red, the beadle.
Speaker 3 (39:50):
No.
Speaker 1 (39:50):
But you know what, You're not the only one.
Speaker 6 (39:51):
Who said it.
Speaker 5 (39:52):
One guy on Twitter says, dude, what did Kartop do
with this? You stle cars here? Some of the comments
on Twitter, dude had me friggin crying. Our boy, John
concag did you what John said? John said, Man, I
loved you in the Wizard of Oz, so yeah, man,
but oh I do too. It was I was crying
just look at what I saw, and I said, oh man,
(40:13):
people are going to get a kick out of this stupidity.
But yeah, back in the day, man, good time sad by.
All good time sad by kind of reminds me of fun.
You could get that cut at your local Salon.
Speaker 4 (40:23):
Look look for Vince Scully talking about redheads, because I
think it was Justin Turner at the plate and he
was like I read somewhere that by twenty fifty there
will not be any more redheads?
Speaker 1 (40:34):
Is that true?
Speaker 4 (40:36):
Like it's like, well, I mean, I get that you're
talking to people, Vin, but like, who exactly are you talking?
Speaker 5 (40:40):
But that's the thing about Vin Scully. He makes you
feel like you're talking to him, and he'll he'll do it.
He leaves out there and so you start talking with
your buddy about what Vin just asked.
Speaker 4 (40:49):
That's what I always love, Like, you know, in nineteen
fifty three, Duke Snide, you're like where it was like
going into the sixth inning or something like that. It'd
be like story time with Vin, And I always loved
how he ended it where you know, you got the
field in the background, all of that. He's got the
microphone and he would just you know, go let's get
back to this one.
Speaker 1 (41:06):
Yeah, oh yeah.
Speaker 5 (41:07):
And then he's a farmer John he'd been doing that
forever or Phillips seventy six, you know Phillip sixty six.
Oh yeah, the station One thing about him too, is
there a better storyteller.
Speaker 7 (41:17):
No.
Speaker 5 (41:18):
I mean he's the one broadcaster in my life that
I've listened to and said, when you have a color
an analyst with him, a color analyst, it muddies the water.
Speaker 2 (41:28):
Oh yeah, he needed Vin.
Speaker 5 (41:31):
When he's by hisself, it's like he's carrying a conversation
on with the fans and himself, and it's like you're
sitting next to him. Oh yeah, the phenomenal storyteller. And
at no time that I feel bored or like Vin
doesn't know what he's talking about. No, Vin was mister
Dodger right, so incredible. I mean not literally, I mean
I've been very few decisions were made in that building
(41:51):
without Vince Cully doen. I mean as long there as anybody,
So God bless him and God rest his soul.
Speaker 4 (41:56):
Apparently would do the readings that pregame MAP yes too,
that reading from the Book of Isaiah.
Speaker 5 (42:03):
Well, in sports terms, he's the Morgan Freeman of sports
very much. And we are listening to Morgan Freeman. You
think whatever he's selling, I'm buying, and that voice is good.
Then I got to go to visa whatever I'm in
and with Vin Scully if he's if he is narrating
it or talking about it, then it's done, perfect and classy.
Speaker 4 (42:21):
He has missed that is for sure. Let's get back
into Texans conversation. You want to join us someone three
two one two five seven ninety against someone three two
one two five seven ninety. The second part of the
lessons learned for the Texans, we'll discuss that here Sean
Salisbury Shay.
Speaker 5 (42:35):
Hey, guys, Country Boys Roofing. My guy John and his
team have added a new good worker to the team.
And it's his son, Zach, who graduated with Stephen F.
Speaker 1 (42:44):
Austin.
Speaker 5 (42:45):
And also now they're financing is available at Country Boys
Roofing all in You got it all right there, house.
So when it comes to your roof at a time
like this's its storm season, we've seen him hit not
only all over the country but here recently cold and
then you go from cold to hot, cold to hot.
I don't know much about roofs.
Speaker 1 (43:01):
I do know this.
Speaker 5 (43:02):
I can tell you how good somebody is, but I
wouldn't know how to tell you all the materials that
go into it.
Speaker 1 (43:07):
He can't, you know.
Speaker 5 (43:08):
And there's certainty NATLAS certified at Country Boys Roofing.
Speaker 1 (43:12):
But and maybe you can too if you're out there listening.
Speaker 5 (43:14):
But you know whether it's warped or old, or a
storm hit it and you need it fixed, all those things.
And this time your people price gouge all over the
country when it comes to this because they can, because
they know you need protection and they know you need
to be secure, not John, one thousand dollars off of
the full roof when you have discount when you mentioned
my name, and fifteen hundred dollars off the full roof
on a discount when you get new roof, roof fixed, whatever,
(43:35):
all over when you mention if you're a first responder,
if you're military, or if you're an educator. So they're
not price scouging at a time when they could. They're
going the other way. They're making it even more feasible
for you because they understand your plight. They are a
proud member of the Better Business Bureau. Go anywhere in Houston,
no job too big or too small, and they will
help you navigate those awful insurance claims to get it
(43:56):
done right, and they'll do your roof right. And you
know what else, if you need consultation on something, you
could pick up the phone and call John or go
and visit them at Countryboys Roofing dot Com and they
will get back to you and take care of you
one way or the other, because it's all about customer
service and transparency and honesty and making sure you get
taken care of. It's country with the K Boys with
the Z Countryboys Roofing dot Com. That's Countryboys Roofing dot Com.
Speaker 9 (44:21):
Kd E Houston ATD two Houston, an iHeartRadio station, and.
Speaker 5 (44:28):
The Rocket Pro Sports Talk seven ninety your home for
your home teams from the Parsons Imagine Next Studios, Sulby Houston.
Speaker 2 (44:45):
Okay, let's do this.
Speaker 3 (44:47):
Sean Salisbury to usc Trophan, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 5 (44:53):
Dan Matthewscuse jesus, this is the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 4 (45:01):
They're gonna get the Rockies to start up a three
game series over at dyk In Park, part of a
nine game homestand for the Stros, Texan's gonna be without
running back Joe Mixon for the first four games this season.
And already told you about Trey Hendrickson. How about Terry McLaurin.
Also getting a deal done with the Washington Commanders yesterday,
three year contract extension, So that means the only one
(45:25):
that is still not determined is Micah Parsons with the Cowboys.
But before we continue the Texans conversation here, just read
the tea leaves and listen to everybody talk.
Speaker 1 (45:36):
I mean, I guess what was it?
Speaker 4 (45:37):
Somebody asked Dak the other day and he was like,
not concerned whatsoever?
Speaker 1 (45:42):
What was it?
Speaker 4 (45:42):
Chris collins Worth, I think I saw where he said,
I'm preparing for Parsons to be on the field on Thursday.
Like it's one of those that the people who need
to know know, Hey, it's gonna get done.
Speaker 1 (45:53):
It's gonna be fine.
Speaker 4 (45:55):
It's going to be everything that we always have in
situations like this where it oh my gosh, yeah, they're
gonna have to trade them. Look out unhappy as he
wants out of there, and then well he gets the
bag and then it's hey, bygones, be bygones. The business
was the business, and now you go play football.
Speaker 5 (46:11):
The first thing you need to learn as a professional athlete,
aside from doing lonely work we're working away from the building,
is never to take this stuff personal. And I'm sure
that's the way it is in life. But the second
somebody to if you take it personally. When it comes
to contract and go, She's well, it's like anything both
(46:32):
sides and agents, but bashing the team. The team's bashing
an agent, not not out. You get my point. They're
fighting each other head to head over money and you're
in any situation. And then next thing you know, they're
hugging and kissing and saying thank you.
Speaker 3 (46:43):
Man.
Speaker 5 (46:43):
I can't well, I'm so glad to be here, all
while the athletes are like, okay, let's get this to
you know, proud to be a cowboy. Never I've never
I've never not wanted to do now. This is where
I want to be my whole life. I knew it
was going to get done. These things take time, so
you didn't, right, it's not a matter of Jerry or
or in Jerry and Mike's case where bike then like
listen for for Contrary to popular belief, most players that
(47:04):
play for.
Speaker 2 (47:04):
Jerry Jones love him.
Speaker 1 (47:06):
That they do.
Speaker 5 (47:07):
That's why Dion and Michael and Emmett and Troy and
Darren Woods, That's why they always go back. Now listen,
the Raiders are pretty have a pretty this Steeler I'm
talking about that following where they always go back to
legends and and and go back and visit and you
see an ultis the forty nine Ers, the Raiders, the
forty nine Ers tremendous empowerment with their players post you
(47:28):
know they're retired players. They want to eva, no question.
And the Cowboys are at the top of that list
as well. And you may fight with Jerry and the
rest of it, but most people, there's not a there's
no there's not a racist ponent Jerry's body, there's not
I mean, I mean, Jerry takes care of his players.
Speaker 3 (47:47):
Now.
Speaker 5 (47:47):
It may take a while, and it may be a
pain in the ass getting there, but rarely do you
guys hear a guy leave that comes out of it,
that was around him all the time. He says, we
may have disagreed or de may disagree with them some things,
but they still love him so because he's all always
like him or not as a GM, he's always cared
about the players. Jerry's a smart businessman, which sometimes bothers
(48:08):
the football side of it, because he's a smart businessman, right,
and if you're the agent player, it's a battle. The
guy knows how to make money and he knows how
to negotiate, so this is one of these. But in
the end, after all the pubs come down on him
and everybody's eyes are on the Dallas Cowboys, these things
get done. Michael Parsons will not be playing for another
team this year. Just so you're people are well aware,
(48:29):
it's either gonna be the Dallas Cowboys or his ass
is gonna sit out. But he's under contract, so in truth,
regardless of well he should be in uniform playing. I
get why he didn't want to go training camp. I
mean there, but not practicing. It may take a while
for him to get going. But Michael Parsons is not
playing anywhere else this year. I like, I would put
a big time futures bet on that right today, and
I've never felt it. Jerry's not gonna let him go,
(48:51):
especially after all this. He knows what it's going to take.
It's just gonna be Muligetta and him and Parsons actually
finally talking again.
Speaker 1 (48:59):
What was the contract about the contract offer?
Speaker 5 (49:02):
Shove it up your yeah, and supposedly mulaged and never
said I don't know which, I've never said that.
Speaker 1 (49:07):
I never said that.
Speaker 5 (49:09):
I can imagine it in terms of like you don't
mean literally, but basically by saying you know, no, that
contract's not what we want, you can basically shove it
where the sun don't shine.
Speaker 7 (49:17):
Right.
Speaker 5 (49:18):
I can see those negotiations go. Call come on, man,
you can stick that with Jerry. You know better than that, right,
one of those. But I doubt that mulagan, who's gonna
have to deal with him over the course because he's
made like a billion dollars in client for his clients
over the years.
Speaker 1 (49:30):
Mulhaget is a good agent for his players. He represents them.
Speaker 5 (49:32):
Well, and he's gonna have to negotiate with Jerry plenty
more times in his career. I doubt he told him
to shove it completely up in knowing certain terms. But
Jerry's Jerry loves to be hyperbolic.
Speaker 1 (49:43):
That's who he is.
Speaker 4 (49:44):
Professional wrestling like. It's almost like when Sting was gonna
make his comeback with the WCW, and storyline was they
kept slow playing them with all right, Hey, here's a
contract for you to wrestle Kurt Henning. I don't want
to wrestle Kurt Henning. I'm gonna rip this thing up,
all right, here's one for you to wrestle Raven. Yep, nope,
same deal there. Don't want to do that, all right, Fine,
(50:06):
here's the contract for you to wrestle Hollywood Hogan.
Speaker 1 (50:08):
Okay, yeah, hey, I'll do that. You know, it's just
you play it up.
Speaker 4 (50:11):
I mean, the only thing missing from this is you know,
uh Muligeta and Micah Parsons and Jerry having the public
argument on microphone right there at midfield at at and.
Speaker 5 (50:22):
Toy he'll catch it and listen. Don't think for a
second that Jerry does not love this. Somebody gonna get
a steel chair. Yeah, I love the city.
Speaker 1 (50:30):
Oh my god.
Speaker 5 (50:30):
They got Jerry with a steel chair. They in the
hallway right on the back, right, Jerry. He loves this
because the active cowardice, he gets to keep his team.
It's not just football any time. Jerry's the guy that
doesn't want his team in the news eleven months a year.
He wants it in the news twelve months year before.
And it doesn't matter what the reason is. It doesn't
(50:51):
matter what the reason is. And oh dude, this is
you're right in his wheelhouse. Can he interview him on
Fox News on Fox and Friends on the weekend, the
local stuff? He gets to talk with with with the
you know, the local radio and getting their grill and
tell him why. And he knows how to position himself
because he he's got the leverage here, Michael Parsons, while
(51:12):
a great player doesn't have the leverage because one you're
under contract, Two I n franchise you. Three is I'm
the owner of the Cowboys.
Speaker 1 (51:19):
What are you going to do?
Speaker 5 (51:21):
And I'm most players, I'm just telling you, yeah, most
players do not have the balls to sit out because
you don't get paid and give up a million dollar
a week pay pay. Sorry, because regardless how much you
make on the other end, the one thing you're never
they're never going to go back and be retroacted to say,
you know that game you missed, I'm gonna give you
(51:41):
that million and a half dollar paycheck that we you
never make.
Speaker 1 (51:44):
That you never that's gone.
Speaker 5 (51:46):
So most rarely will you find a guy rarely, And
then what he'll do is he'll negotiate, Well, I lost
a million dollars. I need you to put a million dollars
on the back end of this so I can make
it up if you're negotiating. At least I would if
I held out for I'd fight for that because it's
you're giving it up. You're giving it up, and well,
what's a million dollars? A million dollars is still a
million dollars. Most players do not have the guts or
(52:09):
the stones to say to sit at home while the
seed's going, especially when you're under contract and you're I
understand if you're a you're battling over free agency and
you don't want to get hurt and lose all your money,
but you're under contract. You're in a year where you
want to go get the extension. Most guys, you're sitting
at home on a Tuesday of game week, and you know,
let's say you say you're holding out and you're not
(52:30):
gonna show up.
Speaker 1 (52:31):
You know what you're thinking, and.
Speaker 5 (52:33):
That checking count that million and five this way, and
I think it's paycheck's like a million plus a year
right now, a week, not a a week. So you're
gonna leave that paycheck sitting on table. No, at least
you're showing up in uniform. I'm gonna get them twenty snaps.
Speaker 4 (52:45):
Well, yeah, I mean, there's a lot of guys that
have been on record of showing up and collecting. But
it's Also, what reminds me of the twenty eleven lockout
is that's why the owners were steadfast as they were like, hey,
you guys are eventually going to start missing out on
game checks, and we know you don't want to start
missing out on game checks.
Speaker 5 (53:02):
And remember who can afford the game checks. The big
boys that make all the money. But guess where the
majority of your team is not with the big boys
making all the money. They're in the they're them in between.
Guy who's like I need this, Man, I'm trying to
make a team three hundred thousand dollars a week paycheck.
If you're building your are you thinking week? Yeah, they're
making it. They're not willing to and all of them
(53:24):
got to vote. It's not just the big dogs you
get to vote. So yeah, I'm just when it comes
to a CBA and all that, Yeah, most players, it'll
be rare. You find me those players that you know.
Dwayne Brown did it that year and got an extra
He got in just in time to get the year in.
And Emmitt Smith held out a few times and I think
he came back and won the MVP of the league.
They wouldn't won a Super Bowl that year. When he held
out for two weeks or something. Yeah, it was the
(53:44):
first two so point or led the league in rushing
even after missing it, which is no shock point is
Jerry holds all.
Speaker 2 (53:51):
The cards here. He absolutely does.
Speaker 5 (53:54):
And eventually Michael Parsons will be playing and he will
get his deal done. But I would anticipate that he
will be in uniform playing unless he's hurt or claims
he's hurt, but he ain't missing a game check.
Speaker 1 (54:04):
I just don't believe.
Speaker 4 (54:04):
That hard lessons that you have to learn sometimes in
boy somebody did. We will discuss that here is it's
the stakeout. We do it at this time every single
day here on the Shawn Salisbury Show.

Speaker 2 (56:11):
All Right, Sean, what are you hearing out there now?
The Salisbury stakeout? Salisbury's takeout on the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 4 (56:25):
It is Sean Salisbury Show, Sports Talk seven ninety here
on a Tuesday, stros back from the off nights. We're
gonna get the Rockies to fire up a nine game
homestand Texan's gonna be with that running back Joe Mixon
for the first four games of the season at least,
and Kenyon greenportally gonna be cut by the Eagles after
they traded with the Texans for him.
Speaker 5 (56:45):
So didn't work out here now as much I hate
it for our Texas A and M guys. So far,
it's been a rough, rough goal of it for him
early as a first round or early in his career.
Hopefully he finds his way in and along the way
has learned lessons that he can land with somebody and
and it fits.
Speaker 1 (57:02):
Really you root for it. I don't root.
Speaker 5 (57:03):
Yeah, I don't root for anybody to nobody should root
for anybody to fit. Oh well, he didn't work here,
hopefully fails elsewhere. No, you got a root for the
kid to succeed. And maybe maybe it's not for him,
but two teams, there's there's thirty others, you know, exhausted
until you feel like you don't want to do it anymore.
Speaker 1 (57:21):
But it can be frustrating.
Speaker 5 (57:22):
I hope that I hope he gets a chance to
and that that he exceeds his own expectations.
Speaker 3 (57:26):
Now.
Speaker 5 (57:27):
I hope that he. I hope he gets that chance
to do that. And it's tough to break Philadelphia's offensive line.
Dude to go in there and make that that's that's
a even as a first round pick. That's a good
group of players there.
Speaker 4 (57:35):
One of the best ineffective play two things that have
gotten to.
Speaker 6 (57:40):
Career.
Speaker 1 (57:41):
Yeah, he is, I didn't mean interrupt. Sorry, you're good, tripley.
Did you hear what Dan said?
Speaker 10 (57:44):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (57:44):
I know you heard you kind of walk by when
you put yourn in the studio about how he hates
college football and he can't wait till it's uh, we do.
Speaker 1 (57:52):
How come what happened?
Speaker 5 (57:53):
I thought you were LSU you give your Georgia bulldog
some love because you're from there. You're a guy who
you know, people respect you across the country. Yeah, that's
where I met you. You're from here, but you know
you just but I don't know when did you man here?
I get a partner? I think man get a good
college football talk?
Speaker 2 (58:10):
When did you hate college.
Speaker 1 (58:12):
I'm not going to continue to ring this bell with you.
Speaker 4 (58:14):
I'm just I'm not going to okay, so quite asking Dan?
Speaker 5 (58:17):
I mean Tripoli, could you were you shocked? I mean
we're trying to get into college. Well, I said Dan,
at some point we'll make our college football predictions. Heisman
trouble doing it. And remember when you said screw that, Sean,
don't you don't you take the cheese you said? You
said screw We're tall? I said, you want to talk
about who's going to win the Heisman. We got to
get it all and we got to make our picks
this week, National champion, final four, all that, and it
(58:39):
was so weird that you said, screw that, I want
to talk to us Open tennis. I mean, I understand
you love it too, but I don't get it. What
you want to talk about McElroy being there?
Speaker 1 (58:49):
What's the new?
Speaker 4 (58:50):
I mean, that's about the only thing I know. I
guess Venus Williams loss last.
Speaker 1 (58:53):
Night first round.
Speaker 5 (58:54):
Yeah, I don't think I've watched a tennis match ever. Well,
apparently you're not gonna watch college football this year because
you said.
Speaker 1 (59:02):
You hated it to me.
Speaker 4 (59:03):
I don't I don't do this weekend? Yeah, uh no,
I don't know if there's any concerts or anything.
Speaker 5 (59:09):
No, yeah, goes, Dorothy Woods is over and that the
Dorothy Woods famili.
Speaker 1 (59:12):
Is that what it's called? Dorothy Cynthia Woods?
Speaker 10 (59:14):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (59:14):
Or who's Dorothy Woods? I have no no clue.
Speaker 5 (59:17):
Is that kind of Dorothy on the visit of Oz
that Cynthia Woods kind of come?
Speaker 1 (59:20):
I say, I think you just combined him. I did
Cynthia Woods my bad. Look, look you.
Speaker 5 (59:24):
Know, it's like that guy who throws it fifty feet
over a guy's head, the look sit his receiver.
Speaker 1 (59:32):
No, no, it was Jazz Chisholm.
Speaker 4 (59:33):
They like threw it like twenty feet over Paul Goldschmid's
head the other day, and people are like what like
people were legit, like, like is he is he literally
throwing this?
Speaker 5 (59:43):
Yes, and thrown it to the guy at the four throw.
But but I always like that, you know what we've
all done it. Yeah it's me, my bad, You're no kidding.
You missed the target by seventy four feet, but that's
the Yeah, my bad, I got you.
Speaker 1 (59:55):
And then you point to him, Yeah, yeah, my bad.
Speaker 4 (59:58):
Well I'll be sure to throw my glove up next time.
I'm to try to stop it.
Speaker 1 (01:00:01):
There you go, But Dan, I don't. I don't know, man.
Speaker 5 (01:00:03):
It's just it's shocking to me because I had you
as a high end top shelf. We've had great college
football talking.
Speaker 1 (01:00:10):
All of a sudden, it's your.
Speaker 4 (01:00:11):
Party haters you because I mean, you know yours is Figah.
Speaker 1 (01:00:16):
You're creating this in your head, that's what you're doing.
You're hearing what you want to hear. That's that's exactly
what it's all. Yeah, there you go.
Speaker 3 (01:00:24):
You are.
Speaker 5 (01:00:25):
Do you give your LSU Tigers? I mean, I know
you got to. I wanted you to get to what
you teas. Do you give your LSU Tigers a chance
to national champion just because they can tell it all?
Speaker 6 (01:00:33):
Think?
Speaker 7 (01:00:33):
So?
Speaker 5 (01:00:33):
Yeah, Well they're playing what some people think is the
national champion.
Speaker 4 (01:00:36):
This is almost exactly like going to Texas in twenty nineteen.
You lose that game, you don't win the national title
that year.
Speaker 5 (01:00:42):
I know the hype pump and circumstance isn't going to
surround it because of arch Manning going to Ohio State
and the reigning national champion. But dude, those are four
teams right there, Nash. I mean, now you obviously you
can still get in the platfor window, but I'm talking
about as far as serious you want to test your squads.
That's fortunately among other games we got this weekend. That
(01:01:03):
is for I mean those two games we're talking about, well,
we'll go to find out a lot about where they
are early on in this season.
Speaker 4 (01:01:10):
Well, I mean, and for LSU fans, cover your ears
if you don't want to hear this reality for a second.
One you haven't won a season opening game since twenty nineteen.
Speaker 2 (01:01:19):
And not one.
Speaker 5 (01:01:19):
Sin's impossible, but not one since Brian's been there either, right,
Brian Kelly right two years ago for us, and it's
been a good time to start. Here's the key. Three teams, well,
two teams with veteran quarterbacks your game that are both high,
appear to be first round draft picks in the NFL,
or club Nick and Nussmyer. And then you get a
(01:01:40):
guy that you expect to be a monster. Arch Manning
in Ohio State has to find a new They got
to find their guy. Yep, you know they think they
got it, but they got He's getting his first real
run as a national champion quarterback with Will Howard gone.
So the question is who do you favor this year?
And I know we'll get into it later in the week,
but who do you favor this year? Is there's good
(01:02:01):
teams with veteran quarterbacks or is it somebody gonna come
out of nowhere with one of these new quarterbacks. It's
like the Mischig, your guy that transferred from LSU to Michigan.
He got the starting you know they named the starter,
Oh Underwood. Yeah, Underwood's the starter. I mean, and and
and a whole bunch of twelve million dollars somehow got
to stay a whole bunch of millions, Richard. So I
can't wait till this weekend. But two major tests. I
(01:02:23):
can't wait to see this weekend. But if you hated
college football, you'd watch and all joking aside, I know
you kind of like college football just to live.
Speaker 1 (01:02:30):
I know you're ready. You've been looking forward to this
for a minute. You damn right, I have.
Speaker 2 (01:02:33):
I'm with you.
Speaker 1 (01:02:34):
It's gonna be a fun weekend, all right.
Speaker 4 (01:02:36):
Memo to people, and I can't even believe that I
have to put out this verbal memo. Stay away from
bison because the National Park Service advises you stay at
least one hundred yards away from a bison. And this
happened after a moron was charged by a bison at Yellowstone.
An Instagram post courtesy of ABC News shows a man
(01:02:58):
who is probably at least from the photo here that
I see about seven ten feet away from the bison.
Speaker 1 (01:03:05):
And then the bison starts to do the put the
head down. Yeah bad idea, Like I'm.
Speaker 4 (01:03:09):
Gonna be in charging, you know, start start patting the
front the front hoof right there to come at you,
and somebody off in the distance off camera yells get them,
you idiot, and the other one too. The video captured
last month shows a man trying to evade a charging
bison after a misguided attempt to feed the animal.
Speaker 1 (01:03:32):
What's the number one thing that they tell.
Speaker 5 (01:03:33):
You they'll feed the animals, especially ones like that. Listen,
a bison's a beautiful animal, but they're also fierce. Yeah,
and I just don't understand, you know what, no offense.
I don't feel one bit sorry for the guy got
charged by a bison. Now you play stupid games, dude,
and it happens. And and if you if you're that
(01:03:54):
dumb to think I'm gonna be the one, you're not
winning that battle. Hence why you're asked hauling at asked
and try and get away from the field. Listen, if
he threw you up and you're landing on top of
the hood like right out of a Chevy Chase movie,
guess what? Oh well yeah, And then maybe next time
you take your trip to Wyoming or wherever it is
that they saw the bison and decide that you want
to feed a bison, learn your lesson that's like asking.
(01:04:17):
That's like opening an alligator's mouth and saying, hey, man,
can I look in?
Speaker 1 (01:04:19):
Yeah, don't be stupid, Hey, hey don't you're not you're
not gonna chomp? Are you no promise? And won't?
Speaker 2 (01:04:25):
What is the what is the common sense?
Speaker 10 (01:04:27):
I Q?
Speaker 4 (01:04:28):
For some people not very high, not very high. You
drive around these roads on a daily basis. You just
got your answer.
Speaker 2 (01:04:34):
I mean, what are you thinking?
Speaker 4 (01:04:37):
Yeah, that that's exactly the same people who get driver's
license and get to vote.
Speaker 5 (01:04:44):
Don't drive his license and they and they, and then
and then not only that, and then all of a
sudden in a position to tell people how they're supposed to.
Speaker 1 (01:04:52):
Yeah, don't if you don't have common sense, I Q.
Speaker 5 (01:04:54):
With a bison, and what do you get because he's
big that he can't outrun you.
Speaker 1 (01:05:00):
That's always my favorite tip.
Speaker 4 (01:05:01):
That's like, that's like people I see on social media
trying to give out life advice, and you know them personally,
you maybe send them a note to the side and say,
don't give out life.
Speaker 1 (01:05:09):
Sit this one out. Yeah, you're not in a position
to give out life advice. I'm sorry.
Speaker 5 (01:05:13):
None of us are in a position with our bare
hand to feed a bison and get within ten feet
when they want you thirty yards away.
Speaker 1 (01:05:19):
Yeah, or so, Yeah, I'll be good behind a fence.
Speaker 5 (01:05:22):
And yeah they say they close, they can close that.
They'll close the stagger. They got two or four by one,
four by two hundred meters. They're closing the stagger stagger quickly.
They've got two more legs than you do. So they're
going to move faster.
Speaker 1 (01:05:35):
Than you do. Uh yeah, yeah, and had stronger too,
just just a bit.
Speaker 4 (01:05:40):
And I mean and that's the thing too, Like I said,
you know this this photo of the bison where I
mean it was in charging position where you have.
Speaker 5 (01:05:47):
A better chance at actually taking a eleven guys on
defense from the North Dakota State Bison University and letting them.
Speaker 4 (01:05:55):
Hit you or running or running with Ralphie. Which that's
the thing. If you ever see, you know at Colorade
games when they run when they run the buffalo on
the field, you know, and do the little arch to
run back to y that thing's running them.
Speaker 1 (01:06:06):
They're not.
Speaker 5 (01:06:07):
They're not running the bison. Yeah, the buffalo stay behind it.
Yeah what about this. They're out in front of it,
aren't they. But they're running to the side. Yeah, just
so in case it does.
Speaker 4 (01:06:16):
Go to I didn't like you even see like they're
kind of like trying to like brace themselves and do
all that. And it's not if that buffalo wants to
keep running. The buffalo is going to keep running. Right now,
I am stupid enough to say that.
Speaker 5 (01:06:27):
I one of my bucket list goals and still is
to run in Pamplona with the running with the bulls.
Speaker 1 (01:06:32):
You can go do that.
Speaker 5 (01:06:33):
But I did do a second version of it in
Mesquite in Nevada where they had like a buddy of
mine who were like part of the Cowboy Network. They
had one out there. Now that's not as fierce as much.
You're running through the corrals all the way around, but
you still got a hall ass. So you finally got
to be a rodeo.
Speaker 1 (01:06:47):
That's for you.
Speaker 5 (01:06:47):
There you go that that adrenaline though, dude, yeah, well
there's a bunch of you're going like, okay, well it was.
It was a fun one, and I'm thinking, now you
got to heighten that by like what a thousand when
when you're in Pamplona State.
Speaker 4 (01:06:58):
It wasn't pros versus Joe's and it wasn't sports Science.
But there used to be this show on ESPN where
they had a guy once playing basketball against a legit
bull and like he tries to go up for a
layup and they shaved down the bulls horns too.
Speaker 5 (01:07:13):
So like it wasn't gonna hit him. I wasn't gonna
kill him. One gonna go him.
Speaker 4 (01:07:15):
But I just remember, like the guy like tries to
go up and the bull just goes boom right into
his mid second, yeah, and throws them like ten feet.
Speaker 5 (01:07:22):
What if you want to what if you want to
put the ball on the deck and back him into.
Speaker 1 (01:07:25):
The low block. You're not backing them, you're not packing them.
Speaker 5 (01:07:28):
That's a tough that that's that's a little more stringent
than a forearm.
Speaker 4 (01:07:31):
You thought to the lower back on You thought Chuck
Hayes could defend. Yeah, this thing can defend bad bad idea. Yeah,
running with the bulls, that's a that's a goal. I've
always said, you're not in. He was broadcast, so but
you ain't going, Yeah, I was gonna say. I mean,
I'll be off to the side.
Speaker 5 (01:07:45):
You know, I drank the wall, so you're you all
got to go stop the grapes while you get to
drink the water.
Speaker 1 (01:07:50):
That's it. You want.
Speaker 4 (01:07:51):
You want to throw on your white shirt with your
little red bandana, all of that.
Speaker 1 (01:07:55):
You go right ahead.
Speaker 5 (01:07:56):
I'll be right there eating, eating my my Spanish cheese,
drinking wine.
Speaker 1 (01:08:01):
That's what I'll see. What I'm done.
Speaker 5 (01:08:02):
Hopefully I'll make it. I'll see you he on the
right side. Good luck, buddy, hope. Hopefully I see you
on the other side, not literally on the other side,
like on the side of the pizza or the pizza
joyd or the restaurant or the Spanish restaurant.
Speaker 1 (01:08:14):
There you go. Yeah, I'm with you.
Speaker 4 (01:08:16):
And if you order a tortilla over there, just so
you know, it's it's not a tortilla like here.
Speaker 5 (01:08:20):
It's a little different, yeah, because that's remember we're in Spain,
not Italy, right too, right, big difference. So so I
don't know what the delicacy would be in Pamplona. I
mean with the with the top restaurant, is it? But
hopefully it won't be me, if you know what I mean. Yeah,
you don't want that, none of us do, no doubt.
Speaker 4 (01:08:38):
Anyway, A legend gonna step away, and John Needville wants
to talk about him, so that actually reminded me to
bring this up because something else that I saw that
I absolutely love about this guy.
Speaker 1 (01:08:48):
We'll discuss that right here.
Speaker 4 (01:08:49):
It is a Sean Salisbury show on a Tuesday Sports
Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 5 (01:08:52):
Sort of pro painters sertopro dot com for your free estimate,
each and every sort of pro business, individually owned and operated.
Made a point last night, Dale, I'm calling you today
leaving you a message about the painting and the color
is going to change on the outside of my on
my home. You know how sometimes you do that you
feel like I got a fresh aircut. Well that's bigger
than a fresh haircut. But you need somebody to do
it right, and Curt of Pro Painters does. I was
(01:09:15):
a customer before I became part of the family, and
now I'm still a customer because you know what, I
love being part of the families.
Speaker 2 (01:09:20):
That makes sense.
Speaker 5 (01:09:21):
They're efficient, they're local, they're timely, and even down to
the simple what's the best paint for this to pop
so it matches the couch, so you did the subtle
contrast you need or the meg pops off the kitchen
the paint job. I know that sounds well man, Sean,
but if we're going to do it, we got to
make it look right right. Interior EXTERI your homer business,
why wouldn't you do it with the best. So it's
(01:09:43):
expensive down a home, it's expensive down a business, and
to keep it right, So why wouldn't you protect it
with the quality painting sort of pro painters. You know
somebody's moving. Why in the world would you not want
your presentation to be great? Curt of pros there. If
you're going to stay interior ex heire and you want
to look right for your ego, for your value, all that,
and just want to look right just for you while
you're sitting around on the couch. Curt of Pro Painters
(01:10:04):
is the one. It's sort of what they see. Sort
of pro painters again, certapro dot com for your free estimate,
and for me, there is no other way to do it.
Di I wires, take your time to DIY something else.
Go with the very best here and that's certa Pro Painters.
Surtapro dot com for your free estimate sort of pro painters.
That's painting.
Speaker 2 (01:10:21):
Happy with The Shawn Salisbury Show continues.
Speaker 4 (01:10:28):
Lee Corso gonna be the final college game Day coming
up on Saturday, as it's gonna be uh the game
day crew in Columbus for Texas and Ohio State. But
I know that's among many other things John and Neidville
wants to get us going on the phone lines this morning, John,
good morning, Good morning guys.
Speaker 10 (01:10:48):
Real quick, Sean, you were kidding. This was a joke
while ago that you were talking about with Dan in
college football.
Speaker 1 (01:10:57):
Yeah, we were joking.
Speaker 10 (01:11:00):
Okay, thank god, man, because I thought maybe he had
to go get his lift in, you know, and this
was before you know what, you know, got to go
get that lift in before we can even go look
and watch a game at a friend's house. But you know,
hopefully he's listening. He's doing good. That that person.
Speaker 5 (01:11:19):
He's talking about, right, he always to get bright Bride
some shot. I'll be over up maybe an hour later
or so before we get there. From during college game,
they come over the house. He's got to go get
my lift in. And now Lima says lift boy. John
says lift right in his old country boy. So I'm
there with you.
Speaker 10 (01:11:41):
I'm thought for a moment, I was.
Speaker 5 (01:11:43):
Like, oh my dude, dude, he's a college football hank.
Of course he loves college That's why it was so blatant.
I was one hundred and eighty degrees different. This dude,
he's he's as much college football as you and I are,
times five, So he loves it.
Speaker 10 (01:11:56):
Me looking ahead and me looking have my computer there.
For a minute, I was like, what I.
Speaker 1 (01:12:00):
Need not worry. I guess I'm a good salesman. I
was going to say, the audience believes you.
Speaker 10 (01:12:07):
There you go, Hey, you know, I'm real curious. I
don't never listen to never really look into it and
watch ratings and all that, and care less about ratings.
But you know this coming Saturday, man, number one, I
can't wait for it. You know, this is my favorite
time of the year. Of course, for several reasons besides
(01:12:29):
just not the NFL college football, but also that time
of the year stuff changes and hunting. But man, let
me tell you something. Of course, this is going to
be the highest rated show that I think it's I
don't know what you compare it to, but man, that
the ratings for this college game Day coming up this
(01:12:51):
Saturday is going to be I would be shocked if
it doesn't set all new all time record on it
simply because of you know, I don't know. Did y'all
see the special they did for him the other night?
Speaker 1 (01:13:05):
I saw parts of it.
Speaker 4 (01:13:06):
I mean I saw the tribute video that they had
him watch there. And Herbstreet of course, I mean, you know,
people for the longest time get Lee off the show.
And Herbie of course would be like no, no, no, no,
no no. And we also know why because I mean, Sean,
you know, I think you told me this. He started
the show when his dad had just passed Herbstreet, so
(01:13:27):
Lee was almost kind of a dad to him.
Speaker 5 (01:13:29):
And and and Lee and Kirk's been right there by
him to walk him through stuff with Lee still sharp
as could be. And sometimes you know when he went
through the stroke and stuff again, but he's listened. Lee
courses got as much energy as a thirty year old.
It's just the where it's time for him. And I
heard it. Yes, it's dude.
Speaker 10 (01:13:51):
I mean, he's in his freaking nineties or late eighties.
And and Mark God, I hope to god I'm still
able to get around and to do that.
Speaker 1 (01:13:59):
It looks up in a suit, John, and just to
keep doing it.
Speaker 5 (01:14:02):
But those two are there's a there will be tears flowing.
Speaker 1 (01:14:05):
It will be and I'll.
Speaker 5 (01:14:07):
Say that they'll be tears flowing from all of them.
It will be the highest rated college game day ever.
You're saying goodbye on TV to a legend and the
biggest college football legend at ESPN that they've ever had
because of what he meant to that show.
Speaker 1 (01:14:24):
What's that?
Speaker 2 (01:14:24):
John?
Speaker 10 (01:14:25):
Yes, sir, well, I know y'all got to get to
it because it's coming up on that time. But as
far as pro football quarterbacks starting quarterbacks, let's rephrase this.
Make sure we're talking about starting quarterbacks, sir. It's funny
here in the office. I got the TV on our
glance up there periodically to the four Letter Network there.
(01:14:49):
It's funny how last year, if you remember correctly, they
are on the four Letter work Network will predicting and
saying how the Texans and the Super Bowl and just
all this and all the hype blah blah blah. Well,
now they have the favorite team, a new favorite team,
which is the Washington Redskins. Excuse me, commanders, Yes, I
(01:15:09):
did that on purpose, but now they're saying that the
Redskins are Super Bowl favorites. Dude, come on, man, it's
their second It's Jade Daniels second year. They did the
exact same thing with the Textans. Last year they were
predicting how they were going to make that leap and
get to the Super Bowl and be as serious. Well,
(01:15:31):
now that they resigned their wide receiver and now they're
all on that. And I really don't know him, simply,
but this Mike tacat man, Doug, Yeah, af he's predicting
the Titans are gonna walk away with a division. Dude,
quit smoking cracker, stop, get off the mask, get off
the fend on whatever you're doing. I cannot believe he
(01:15:55):
sat there and sitt he's acting like the offensive line
is of the I don't know, pick a team that
had a Las offensive line. You can go back to
the to the Cowgirls. But yeah, it's it's crazy to
him saying that.
Speaker 5 (01:16:10):
But yeah, by the way, by the way, well Washington's
up super They are really good. There's a team in
their division that's going to be pretty difficult to get through,
so that that that's a task itself.
Speaker 1 (01:16:19):
So there you go, Philadelpically.
Speaker 10 (01:16:21):
You got to climb the hill of Philadelphia and they're
not going nowhere. So Ahi, guys, I have a great day.
Speaker 3 (01:16:26):
Man.
Speaker 1 (01:16:26):
We'll talk to y'all ter see John, Yeah, I mean
I get it.
Speaker 4 (01:16:31):
I mean it is kind of very similar to you know,
where the Texans were viewed last year. To John's point,
where you've got the offensive coordinator back Cliff Kingsbury, You've
got a really good quarterback.
Speaker 1 (01:16:42):
In you know, and god, why why am why am
I planking right now?
Speaker 4 (01:16:47):
And he played at l s U Are you talking
about the quarterback for for the for the Commanders? This
is an Amaniel yeh, Jaden and Daniels, thank you, geez
and two two cups of coffee this morning? What the
hell's wrong with me? But Jade Daniels, just like CJ. Stroud,
I get all of that. But I mean, as the
Texans found out last year, there is power for the
(01:17:07):
opponent when they see you coming. And I think in
a lot of ways nobody saw them coming last year.
So it's not gonna be the case for them this year.
And see if they are able to match those adjustments
being made on them that weren't made last year. As
the Texans at times, well they struggled with that. We'll
continue with the football conversation, both college and pros. I
get back into a little bit more of the Texans
(01:17:29):
the top of the eight o'clock hour.
Speaker 1 (01:17:31):
But the leak Corso thing.
Speaker 4 (01:17:32):
Saw something yesterday that I really, really really enjoyed about him,
and we'll share that with you here. It is a
Sean Salisbury show on a Tuesday Sports Talk seven to ninety.
Speaker 2 (01:17:42):
This is the Sean Salisbury Show, Salisbury.
Speaker 10 (01:17:46):
That's good.
Speaker 4 (01:17:48):
The deadline coming up this afternoon. I believe it's three
Central time is what time the deadline is today. So
that's what teams are working on here at this moment.
We'll start off on this story, but probably carry it
over into the next hour, Sean. As you know, John
just mentioned with us Lee Corso, I'm gonna be doing
(01:18:09):
his final college game day on Saturday, so we'll get
one more time of the head gear, which I believe
they've said that's going away that they're because, I mean,
it is his thing. It's if you did it, it
would be a cheap knockoff at that point, and you know,
you want to be able to keep something original as original.
But another thing that I saw yesterday is that Kirk
(01:18:32):
curve Street in a recent interview, revealing that Corso kept
coaches at arm's length because Corso intentionally avoided relationships with
coaches so he would not feel conflicted when criticizing them
on air, so kind of that professional courtesy. And he
said this on The Ringers Brian Curtis or with The
(01:18:53):
Ringers Brian Curtis about Corso. And I mean that is
the thing too that people in this industry, you know,
some people in the audience might not understand it is
about relationships. That's why they tell you don't ever make
it personal. Because you make it personal, then you can't
be defended.
Speaker 5 (01:19:08):
Dan when I go like speak at a university or
go back and texts ay and M I've been able
to do it, or anytime when somebody starts talking about
the broadcast, but you know people, or you're going and
given you know you're up here at somebody's class or
your question and answer, or anybody that sends me an
inbox and my kids in the spying brother, I want
to get into and how do I get into it?
At any point in time, and or former athletes that
(01:19:30):
are winding down their career or have come and asked me, okay,
Sean breaking into this, how do you do it? My
first thing is, well, prepare you're going to have to
prepare even harder than you do as a player, because
as a player you're preparing for one game, one team
that you're playing that week. As a broadcaster, if you're
doing it right, you prepare for them all, which means
you got to. You can't fool people that have instant
(01:19:51):
access to this stuff that watch the same games you do.
You just can't. And if you don't know it, say
you don't know. That's okay to say you don't know.
Just don't say I don't know ninety percent of the
stuff because it'll tell you're not preparing.
Speaker 1 (01:20:01):
So you got to watch.
Speaker 5 (01:20:02):
But I've always told him, as a former player, the
biggest problem they have is the inability to criticize or compliment,
compliment somebody that maybe you had to you know, had
you compete it against and didn't like it, didn't like him,
and or criticizing somebody that's a friend and that guy said,
that's gonna be the hardest thing. You're gonna be able
to fight. And you got to be able to compartmentalize.
It's not personally, I said, And at all times, never
(01:20:24):
make the job personal. When you're sitting on that mic,
you don't go over there and say I can't stand
this guy, or start rooting for his favor because he
didn't like his dad, or you don't like the university.
You can't and you start to dive into well his
wife I saw her out. You can't do that. I said,
stay out of the personal stuff regardless. Now somebody breaks
the law and it's something you got to talk about
on breaking news. I get you stay out of the
personal business. You stick to what you do. And that
(01:20:48):
one thing Dan for me, listen, Jack del Rio, if
I get married again, Jack del Rio, is is what
would be a guy standing in my line? The reason
I say that when he's the head coach of Jacksonville.
Jack and I have know any test since we were
seventeen years old. But he had made a cat I mean,
and I had to mercilessly criticize his decision on a
fourth down to go forward to kick it.
Speaker 1 (01:21:10):
He gets it.
Speaker 5 (01:21:11):
And if you as long as you listen, as long
as you and you're fair, just like you can compliment
when maybe somebody else doesn't see what you see and
you compliment him, it's the hardest thing to do. Corso's right,
and I David Pollock told me this two weeks ago
on our show, on another show I do, he said, Sean,
I never developed relationships with head coaches on purpose, and
(01:21:31):
maybe he got that from Corso, because you just don't
want to. As long as you do that, you're not like, yeah, man,
I got you, I got you. Don't want to be
that way you always and I try to develop that.
I was going to be unfiltered and honest and fair,
but I was never gonna make it personal and never
going to attack him. And I always told him I'm
watching the same tape you do. I'm doing that and
if I'm not, and I always have encouraged, I'll never forget.
(01:21:54):
I criticized Desmond Howard one time and I made it
a little too personal, but it was a joke. On
Sports Center. He had he made a play, was a
special teams play where he'd made a mistake on a
special teams player or something, and he took a big
hit and got hurt on it. And I had said, now,
this will always get you in trouble or something snide,
but it wasn't at I love Desmond, but it was
something and he got hurt on the play. He contacted
(01:22:15):
me and said, Sean, you do know, I mean, we
had great respect for each other. He said, you know,
I got hurt of this. I said, you know what,
You're right, I shouldn't have any kind of didn't make
a pose. I didn't, and I apologized to him. I said,
you know what, I was simply talking about the play.
It was kind of a Bloopers it was. That's exactly
what it was like, the end of your Bloopers reel.
And the fact that while while and he wasn't whining
about it, it was just it meant to him because
(01:22:37):
it really he was. It hurt him that that, and
I was like, you know what, you're exactly right. I
got I gotta be better. This is early when I
said I gotta be better, Desmond, You're exactly right.
Speaker 1 (01:22:45):
I am sorry.
Speaker 5 (01:22:46):
And I wasn't even thinking about that in the Bloopers
reel was insensitive and so those things happened. But he'd also,
you know, when you do it right and and you
get a guy says, you know what, Michael Strand said, dude,
I always tuned into you because I knew i'd get
it fair. He told me this stand on the street
in New York City with me and Jay Glazier, and
I don't mean that arrogant at all. My point is,
(01:23:07):
and there's been plenty that you're like, oh damn, but
always when you criticize, I always said, you got to
send me to do a features. I've told you because
you go face him. You don't hide behind a desk
if you're going to criticize your ass. And so with
Lee Corso all the years, while those guys love and
respect him, you're not mad at coach. He's just given
an honest opinion without worrying about because then you can't
(01:23:27):
be honest with your analysis if you're worried about the
guy's feelings. And if you're doing it fair, the guy
shouldn't take it personal. And that's just week to week
compartment compartmentalization. If you will do that as a young
broadcast or an athlete, get into it or a coach,
you'll be fine. And Corso's it's sustained him. I don't
need to tell him anything. He's the legend of all
these years and it's worked for him.
Speaker 4 (01:23:48):
Well again, you know another lesson that I think can
be carried over from what we're talking about here. So
we'll do that in the eight o'clock hour don't forget
Chris Gordy going to join us an hour from now
for his Tuesday visit courtesy at Carbach Brewing. Shawn Salisbury
Show Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 7 (01:24:04):
Salisbury Salisbury Hot.
Speaker 3 (01:24:09):
Okay, let's do this Sewn Salisbury to USC true longtime
friend Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 2 (01:24:16):
Dan matthewscujesus.
Speaker 5 (01:24:19):
This is the Sewan Salisbury Show, six o'clock Astros on
deck coming your way.
Speaker 1 (01:24:28):
Texan is gonna be.
Speaker 4 (01:24:29):
Without running back Joe Mixon for the first four games
of this season, and Dave Portnoy, according to Front Office Sports,
banned from entering Ohio Stadium on Saturday as he's now
part of Fox's Big Noon Kickoff. However, Ross Dellinger does
a great job Yahoo and the company over there that
(01:24:51):
Ross by Yorke, the ad there who formerly at Texas
A and M, telling him and Yahoo Sports that Ohio
State did not issue a ban on port and that
Byorke confirms that Fox decided that Portnoy would not be
on the main desk for Big Noon Kickoff, and those
who are not on the main desk normally do not
appear on the field. These are Fox decisions, he emphasized
(01:25:14):
to where Portnoy a few minutes ago on Twitter posted,
I guess at children's book, uh you know, book cover
how to sell ice to Eskimos Selling Skills that Win
More sales by Graham Watkins. So I guess if you're
trying to be able to get an edge that way,
go pick up Graham Watkins book.
Speaker 1 (01:25:33):
But basically Portnoy, you know what was it? Cap?
Speaker 4 (01:25:37):
That's what seems like Portnoy is calling there. He's like, oh, yeah,
sure it was a Fox decision. Okay, gotcha.
Speaker 5 (01:25:43):
So were they going to have him on the main
set anyway?
Speaker 4 (01:25:45):
And all this year? Was it going to be on
a side set? I think like maybe kind of like
what College Game Day does. Like remember how they used
to do that with you know Pollock before he got
on the desk and like a few other.
Speaker 5 (01:25:54):
Guys like jin Latta, Yeah, I guess one of the
stuff and they bring him on the set to do a
couple other segments. Yeah, yeah, when he would take a
little time off, right, Yeah. Interesting. Interesting, that's uh, let's see.
So that's that's uh same group rob Stone and mark
(01:26:16):
Ingram and Linert yep and uh uh Brady Quinn Brady
Quinn and Urban Meyer. Yeah, so you add another leather
seat to it, or you just side seat and throw
out to him somewhere sitting next to somebody else, or
you just throw out to him kind of like Fox
News will do with Clay Travis on a sow. You know,
they'll throw it. They'll throw it, and they may even
(01:26:37):
do it on a show during the fall as well. So, uh,
they're obviously the Betters and and the varstool following and
the agreement.
Speaker 1 (01:26:45):
Good.
Speaker 5 (01:26:45):
I'm anxious to see what that looks like, the you
know a little spice and how how much they're going
to let him let it rip. So it'll be good,
be interesting to see what they're gonna do. But hey, listen,
you always got to see there's all the stories always
lie somewhere in between me did he get kicked out?
Or did was it Fox the decision?
Speaker 1 (01:27:00):
Whoever?
Speaker 5 (01:27:01):
It is more than likely he's not going to be
sitting on the set inside the stadium at the Horseshoe.
Speaker 4 (01:27:04):
So the lesson you know that I was seeing carry
over about Lee Corso we're talking about is kind of is,
you know, a lesson, and you got to do the
job the way that you want to do it not
the way that others tell you, because I think that
that's what happens if you open yourself up to oh man,
you're really close with, say Dabo Sweeney, well, I mean,
(01:27:26):
you know, coach probably need to be a little harder
on Dabo there just because of how things are going
in that program. And you avoid that because you're not
going to make everybody happy some of the things you say.
Trust me, I mean, I've found that out during my
career that you're going to upset someone if you're doing
this job well enough.
Speaker 5 (01:27:42):
That's why you can't care. You're not in the feel
good business because every single one of the guys you criticize,
I've seen it happen a million times. We're gonna compliment.
But you can't just be as a player or a
coach that when they tell you you're great because you
did a great job coaching, and then you say, oh man,
now we're best friends. In the next week you do
a well horses asked job of coaching, or you throw
four picks as a quarterback and you get criticized.
Speaker 1 (01:28:03):
You can't take it personal.
Speaker 5 (01:28:04):
That's all that's a you problem, because then you can't
expect the others, okay, And I'm not sitting on the
fence because my job is to get paid to tell
you exactly what I see. It may not be with
somebody else's, that's okay, that's why they put you on
the set. Well, with that in mind, is that you
that if you do your due diligence and once again
don't make it personal, they'll get over it.
Speaker 1 (01:28:23):
They'll get over it.
Speaker 5 (01:28:24):
And all those guys, not all of them, but the
majority of them, you know what they're gonna want to
do in their careers over they're gonna want to sit
on the set. Have to do the same thing if
you're gonna be any good at your job, not just Tony.
Look at I can tell you a bunch of names
that were put on national shows on studio and in
about three sessions, in about three weeks, you said, this
great player, this guy's awful.
Speaker 1 (01:28:44):
He's not afraid that'll tell you anything. You don't know.
Speaker 5 (01:28:46):
You got to tell them some insight. You got to
give it a strong opinion. That's what it is. It's opinion.
Somebody has a different one, that's okay. But if you're
afraid that man I just criticized Dabbe and we got
to do Clemson next week and Dabbo's coming on the set.
It makes for great it's not personal and dabblishing. When
Dabble cusses out a player, well he didn't cuss much.
When he choose out a player. Is a player supposed
to go in or the player gets mad at a
(01:29:07):
coach's supposed to go in like I'm going into the tank.
If you're that guy, then it's a you problem. It
ain't the coach for you know, coaching you and criticizing
and doing the things he needs to do constructively. And
so if you're watching a game and the truth is now,
if some guy constantly on a set says stuff that's outline,
it's just hot take crap that's unprepared and awful. If
I'm that person, there's a ton of it. Instead of
(01:29:29):
for clicks, you should go and say we're losing credibility
here because there are guys that you'll watch on your
daily shows that to me are not credible because what
they say holds zero water.
Speaker 4 (01:29:39):
Well, I mean because I just I feel like the
motives are much more for oh, this will get people
going as opposed to what you actually believe.
Speaker 5 (01:29:46):
It's exactly right. And so for me, if you believe
in it strong enough and it's good, then sell it
to us. And that's okay. Not getting now we don't
like to be but you know what, you don't have
to tell me when I've had a bad game.
Speaker 1 (01:29:56):
I already know. As long as you don't make a
personal I'd come.
Speaker 5 (01:29:58):
I'd probably come on the set and say, you know what,
you are one hundred percent correct, So for me, and
you just put the other side of that though, is
like Herb Street, and in my situation it was great.
That's where you put yourself on the buying but you
also know that they know that you that you have
a job to do. I can remember, you know when
you call up I had Sark and laying on at
(01:30:19):
the same time talking when they were both at SC
talking about the game. And you're getting inside information that
others can't get.
Speaker 10 (01:30:26):
That.
Speaker 5 (01:30:26):
So my relationships with coaches and former players was huge
because they knew that I was pretty unfiltered with my
opinion and they knew it wasn't personal. But they knew
that with the information they gave me that I was
not going to sell them out. That if they said, Sean,
you can use this information. You didn't get it from
me perfect or and I can spin and say, hey,
(01:30:47):
one of my guys that I really close to the
situation is Boom And normally when I'm saying something, when
I had to do that and if a player didn't
like it, to say, where do you think I got
the information from a guy that's coaching you? It says
he's a lazy outrunner in practice? Well, you're not going
to say the coach, but you know word says that
the guy needs a practice harder.
Speaker 1 (01:31:05):
Well, Sean I practice. Well, I'm just telling you.
Speaker 5 (01:31:06):
If they get mad, where do you think I got
the information?
Speaker 10 (01:31:08):
Right?
Speaker 1 (01:31:09):
Just make it up?
Speaker 5 (01:31:09):
Okay, because if you're doing that, then you're then you're
awful at your gig and that's wrong.
Speaker 1 (01:31:13):
So if you're honest.
Speaker 5 (01:31:14):
So for me though, the relationships, and that's where the
difference is that it was incumbent for me to be
able to go on NFL Live on a daily show
and said I just talked to Jim Johnson defense coordinator
Philly and here's what they're going to do this week,
or at least be prepared for this, or even if
I didn't say Jim Johnson's name, I said, I can
tell you this, what they're going to do in Philly
is that they're going to pressure, but they're gonna play
(01:31:36):
more zone in the red zone and they go play
more zone in the red zone because coach Johnson told
me that. Although I wouldn't say he said it because
that's basically given away.
Speaker 1 (01:31:42):
A Wednesday game plan. You get my point, So you
do it.
Speaker 5 (01:31:45):
But then when all this then when the game's over,
you can say, yeah, when I caught coach Johnson last week,
he had said that they were going to play a
lot of zone in the red zone that they're not
used to.
Speaker 2 (01:31:53):
They're usually a blitzteam.
Speaker 1 (01:31:54):
Bam.
Speaker 5 (01:31:54):
So those relationships for me and you see herb Street
Jay billis some you got to just be able to
able to. I'd never felt guilty about being honest, and
I never still well never did still don't. I mean,
it's what I do. And if my opinion doesn't match
somebody else, that's okay. But I'm never going to tell
you something's fact unless I've heard it from the horse's mouth.
Speaker 4 (01:32:13):
Well it's it's a matter of trust because I mean,
if you get that information, you don't sell them out
on it. And you know, they they see and hear
how you used it. Well, then then they're probably going
to be able to trust you a little bit more
and you're going to get more out of that relationship.
So I mean that's again, Yes, it's what opposed to trust.
Speaker 5 (01:32:34):
Yeah, because the second you sell a guy out that
if somebody give you information as a coach and you
and he's talking about his own player, Sean man might
got a guy who's he still doesn't understand how to
protect in the past game. I'm not going to sell them.
He's got to coach him every day. I would simply,
I'd put it in my words and if somebody come
back out. You know, if somebody asked to said listen,
I would say, listen, man, this he's he's in. But
(01:32:56):
but I go watch the tape he told me to watch.
You can say, okay, I can validate this. It just
came from me, right, And it's not secretive, it's just
it's fair. But the second you start throwing a guy
under the bus, now he's got to go deal with
his own teammates or coworkers.
Speaker 1 (01:33:09):
That's wrong.
Speaker 5 (01:33:10):
It just is because now it puts them in a bathroom.
Just take your knowledge and apply it, and Lee's done.
Lee does it different. Jay Billis's relationships with the head
coaches are enormous for him. Yet Jay Billis still can
criticize a bad decision without making it personal. And good
people that understand been in the business a long time
will know that, you know what, it's okay because Jay
(01:33:30):
Billis played basketball. He watches the same tape they do
and his studies it. So why isn't he able to
give the He's allowed to.
Speaker 2 (01:33:37):
And they know it. And you're not going to be perfect.
Speaker 6 (01:33:39):
Man.
Speaker 5 (01:33:40):
If you were, then then we'll just chalk it up
and give the Super Bowl to the same team every year.
It's okay to criticize your friends as long as you
do it respectfully because they do the same damn thing.
If you want to keep your job and do it right. Nowadays,
I'm not sure if you even have to do it
right to keep your job and make two million bucks
on a national TV network, because there's a lot of
them that are spewing stuff that unfortunately too many people
believe and they don't even believe it.
Speaker 1 (01:34:02):
Okay.
Speaker 5 (01:34:02):
That's the sad part for clicks and likes, because it's
going to draw attention.
Speaker 1 (01:34:06):
But you're losing every day.
Speaker 5 (01:34:07):
You're chalking up credibility problems because you're saying stuff that
you're sitting home saying. Even your own wife doesn't believe you.
Speaker 1 (01:34:14):
Talking on the on the set.
Speaker 5 (01:34:15):
That's the thing is I think I know who you're
talking about. There's more than one. Okay, there's more than one.
Speaker 4 (01:34:20):
With the last part you just mentioned. I mean, because
they're they're trying to hang on and it's not pretty well.
Speaker 5 (01:34:25):
His There's never been a guy lately who protects both
sides who will rip one one day, then the next
day when he sees the backlash, comes back and says, well,
that guy deserved the job because he was good in
the two minute drill and he played college not too far.
Speaker 10 (01:34:39):
For a year.
Speaker 1 (01:34:40):
He's one of them. Yeah, So it's.
Speaker 5 (01:34:42):
Constant, and it's like, come on, man, you you should
know better. You played If we're talking about the same guy.
Speaker 4 (01:34:48):
The Texans and this position on the field a much
better position than they were in last year, and also
too trades. Could we possibly see one to day we'll
discuss it. Is Sean Salisbury Show on on Tuesday Sports

Let's get it on.
Speaker 5 (01:36:35):
You know how popular fantasy football is and Renegade Fantasy
is about to make it even better for you.
Speaker 1 (01:36:40):
Sean Salisbury, Renegade Fantasy dot Com.
Speaker 5 (01:36:44):
Putting the logic in illogical, former prol Sean Salisbury continues
to break it down one seven ninety in this situation,
if they brought him over and he's not going to
be the starter, you can use him as an asset
and trade and he's made of all the things The
rookies in camp right, bursaries made a huge impact well.
Speaker 4 (01:37:04):
And another thing too that Wilson points out this just
a few minutes ago. Max value is fourteen and a
half million, two million dollars guaranteed base salary, and most
of the money was in a signing bonus for Robinson,
So wouldn't necessarily hurt you if you do trade him.
I think if Aaron's you either way, I was gonna say,
I think if Aaron's stowed it out there that we
(01:37:25):
could see and look, I mean there's a chance too
it is.
Speaker 1 (01:37:28):
Now throwing it out there unless there's a little smoke.
Speaker 4 (01:37:30):
Like for some of these running backs we were talking
about the depth there, you might be able to get
something for a couple of these guys on the trade market.
Speaker 5 (01:37:37):
It all depends on how they feel about their running
back room. If it elevated in other places I'm talking about,
and also with in elevated, and if it didn't their
injuries or what coming out of training camp. If you're
a little shy, you go in there and grab a
back that gives you a little depth. Bodies are important
at the running back position because we know how precious
(01:37:58):
that is.
Speaker 4 (01:37:59):
I would probably say what you need about three at
the least four, probably at the most.
Speaker 5 (01:38:04):
I always say three that can handle the load. Now,
may not be the same, the third is not gonna
be as good as the first, obviously, but three that
can handle the load, because especially if you're you have
to because if the first one gets hurt, you're gonna
have to use the other two because you're still not
even if we're fortunate your Chubb can handle the load,
but you're still don't want to wear him out and
gi him three hundred and fifteen carries, right, or four
(01:38:25):
hundred carries?
Speaker 1 (01:38:26):
Should I say?
Speaker 5 (01:38:26):
You know, like when they did Jamal Anderson up there,
when he had four hundred and five or four hundred
fifteen carries in one year his career was everything to
beat him down. Henry's just bear Derek. Henry's fortunate enough
that he's just built different. But yeah, so I always
say three that can handle it, and then a couple
others on special teams that can be specialists or guys
that you can use in situations. But you really want
(01:38:48):
two studs if you if it's if you're if you
possibly can pull it off, and then a third one
who you trust.
Speaker 4 (01:38:55):
Well, and then the receiver position, where last year you
were incredibly thin at that position. I mean, after Tank
Dell gets hurt, you had Nico Collins go down, you
had to start counting on guys like John Metchi no
longer here, Xavier Hutchinson nice enough player, but not going
to necessarily be counted on in this offseason. You go out,
you go get Christian Kirk, somebody that can kind of
(01:39:16):
spell what you would hope to get out of Tank
del Tank Dell's not playing this season, and the incial
teams and the return game and playing in the sus
Praxton Barrios's that's where he fits in there. And then
of course Jayden Higgins and Jalen Noel. So these were
things that Nick Cassio and the staff remember told you
about that meeting after the season, where you get Demiko
(01:39:37):
in there, you get the coaches, you get some of
the scouting department and Nick Assio's staff. We got to
be deeper at that spot. That was one that I
think that Demiko Ryans also said, Hey, we can't run
into a situation like this because the past two years
with Nico, you've been without him for weeks at.
Speaker 1 (01:39:53):
Times, and think about this too.
Speaker 5 (01:39:55):
In the Resiraci and Nico Collins is still the most
understated good wide receiver in the league.
Speaker 1 (01:40:00):
And another year of elevation. Look out.
Speaker 5 (01:40:03):
I think people know what I'm talking about. On the
national scale, if you say, give the top five receivers
most you're not going to mention his name. Here in
this town, we know what a beast is, and so
do the people that cover him. He's continuing to elevate
every year. But you do have to have help where
people can take away that guy by rolling coverage there
and doing and doing those those things you do to
great receivers. I can tell you this, there's no team
relying on two rookie wide receivers. More a lot of
(01:40:25):
teams are relying on a rookie, but two rookie wide
receivers to come in and contribute.
Speaker 1 (01:40:30):
What's that, Oh, it's just pointing somewhere.
Speaker 5 (01:40:33):
Oh yeah, But having a couple of rookie wide receivers
and you know, and and counting on not just okay,
hopefully make a team, but some at least one of
them for sure to impact your team. You're you're counting
on it. And normally when you get one you'll draft
somebody like Molik Neighbors. Right you're expecting to be the
number one. They got a number one here, so you're
really the impact and the depth to continue to keep
(01:40:55):
Nico Collins playing at a high level. I can always
take away your best place player.
Speaker 1 (01:41:01):
Receiver.
Speaker 5 (01:41:02):
Now they're going to get there, but I can make
it so miserable on them. We're rolling covered, you know,
and the good ones like Chase and Jefferson are still
going to get theirs. But the reason why is they
have another guy or two that can create spacing for you,
that also can take over a game and get ten
catches if the number one isn't doing it. That's what
they're looking for here, is it Christian Kirk? Is it
a rookie? We know that there's some other players, but
(01:41:25):
right now you're counting on some really young players and
a veteran in Christian Kirk to elevate their play in
order to maximize we talk about what he'll do, meaning
Nico Collins, to maximize the other guys. The other guys
will help maximize him, because if you're going to double
a guy or role coverage him the whole time, your
second receiver on this team should have ninety catches.
Speaker 4 (01:41:44):
Well, I mean, and that's where the tight end position
comes into play so much, because that was an issue
for you last year. Dalton Schultz did not have a
good season, and I mean with all of the injuries
that you had to dell to Nico Collins at times
you would think that he would factor a lot more than.
Speaker 1 (01:41:59):
He did and he didn't.
Speaker 4 (01:42:01):
So I mean, it's kind of a being put on
notice here for Dalton Schultz Cuz figure, if there is
that ineffectiveness again, he's not here next year.
Speaker 1 (01:42:11):
You got to move on.
Speaker 5 (01:42:11):
This is a big year for him in the production business.
And they have to get good at the line of
scrimmage push from their tight ends. They've got to get
better in the run game at that securing the edge
with those guys. But he's got if it's not going
to be a strength, which it isn't. His strength is
supposed to be pass catching and getting in space and
making things happen.
Speaker 4 (01:42:30):
That has to elevate. It absolutely has to continue the
Texans conversation. Also, do you want to get into a
little bit of astros before we bring Gordy in here
in about thirty minutes, and if you want to join us.
Someone three two on two five seven ninety against someone
three two on two five seven ninety. It's a Tuesday
edition Sean Salisbury Show Sports Talk seven ninety and we've the.
Speaker 2 (01:42:53):
Sean Salisbury Show continued.
Speaker 4 (01:42:57):
Someone three two on two five seven ninety is the
no to get in and Sean will get it going
with Arthur on the phone lines.
Speaker 1 (01:43:05):
Arthur, good morning, good morning gentlemen.
Speaker 10 (01:43:09):
Yeah, mister Sean, I love you my brother.
Speaker 1 (01:43:15):
Feelings me.
Speaker 5 (01:43:15):
No, we don't even need to talk about yesterday. You've
disappointed me too, and we get in our battles. But
it's okay. There's respect your back on. So what's your
point today, my man?
Speaker 7 (01:43:23):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (01:43:23):
You know, I appreciate you coming back in what's up?
Speaker 10 (01:43:26):
Yeah, I'm glad you cooled down from that die tribe,
But I digress on yesterday.
Speaker 2 (01:43:31):
No, wen't you told?
Speaker 1 (01:43:32):
Weren't you told by Tripoli not to do this?
Speaker 7 (01:43:35):
Well?
Speaker 1 (01:43:35):
What did you have to? Okay?
Speaker 5 (01:43:38):
Well, then we're moving on because if you really want
to get I love you, my man, and it's respect,
but it's a battle you're not going to win. You
do know that on this show, you will not win
that battle because like Jerry Jones, we control the MIC's here.
Speaker 2 (01:43:51):
You don't.
Speaker 5 (01:43:52):
So just if you come on a respectful because you man,
well know where you were going yesterday and I told
you not to get into this again. So if you
want to do, hey, I respect We got a good relationship.
Let's keep it at that. But when you're when you're
asked as a phone caller not to come on here
doing it because people don't want to hear it, they
just don't. But if you when you're asked and you
still just can't resist it, you don't have to talk
(01:44:13):
about a diatribe. It's a four hour show, and it's
a four hour diatribe every single day. But you apparently listen,
so you like it. So now you have a platform
to talk what you were going to say yesterday and
then we'll move on. But if you if you want
to keep doing this, then we're gonna have to have
the same conversation because it's what you're barking up a tree.
You're not gonna win, man, So let's go get back
(01:44:33):
to it. So what's your point that you want to make?
Speaker 8 (01:44:36):
Okay, let me make my point. Man's the thing. Man,
mostly everyone I listen to you including you believe that
Stefanski sabotaged that kid on the other day, Well, was
that same energy, and I'm talking about when Beyond Sanders
was talking about certain places he didn't want it to go,
(01:45:00):
in certain places he was okay for them to go.
Where was that same energy when Archie Manning demanded that
his son Eli not.
Speaker 10 (01:45:09):
Drafted by the San Diego Chargers.
Speaker 1 (01:45:12):
Well that year, Well, let me ask you this, Arthur,
what year was that? Just curious before you go on.
Speaker 5 (01:45:17):
And Number one is I never once, I never, ever, ever,
once said that Kevin Stefanski sabotaged.
Speaker 1 (01:45:25):
It was quite the opposite. Kevin Stefanski sabotage.
Speaker 6 (01:45:29):
Huh, that's my point.
Speaker 8 (01:45:30):
That's what most of everyone else believed that he did,
sabotage him unlike you.
Speaker 5 (01:45:36):
Well, well, I've heard of even guys in Cleveland that
I go on with IT hosts shows right there are
saying sabotage. First of all, judging from the fact that
I don't know, Arthur, maybe you've been in.
Speaker 1 (01:45:46):
Those locker rooms.
Speaker 5 (01:45:47):
I know I have, but coaches don't sabotage draft picks,
especially a guy who's now their third quarterback. And they
traded Kenny Pickett. So the bottom line is, and you
know what we talked about.
Speaker 1 (01:45:57):
Let me ask you.
Speaker 5 (01:45:58):
When Robert Griffin was with the Washington Commanders and Kirk
Cousins was his backup and they were both drafted in
the same year, did Kirk Cousins get the same amount
of practice time that.
Speaker 1 (01:46:07):
Robert Griffin got? Know why?
Speaker 6 (01:46:09):
Because one?
Speaker 5 (01:46:10):
Because one was drafted higher and they thought was better.
And Dylan Gabriel was drafted higher. So he's going to
get more looks. So we're done with that situation now.
Speaker 8 (01:46:18):
Fil rown talent Shun.
Speaker 5 (01:46:21):
I didn't have him drafted in the first round. I
said it on the show. I had him anywhere.
Speaker 1 (01:46:27):
I had him.
Speaker 5 (01:46:28):
I had He's not a first round talent. I had
him as a third to fifth guy, third to fifth.
Speaker 8 (01:46:33):
Mail kiper dance nobody better than mayor Kiper evaluating challenge.
Speaker 1 (01:46:38):
Shut well, let me.
Speaker 6 (01:46:38):
Tell you something.
Speaker 1 (01:46:40):
Well, let's listen.
Speaker 7 (01:46:41):
Let me tell you.
Speaker 5 (01:46:41):
Let me tell you a little secret. I love Mel.
Worked with him for a long time. Okay, I did well,
let me finish, I worked with him a long time.
Speaker 3 (01:46:49):
I do.
Speaker 1 (01:46:49):
I think Mel's damn good. He he in depth.
Speaker 5 (01:46:52):
Mel doesn't know more about the quarterback position than Dan Orlovsky. Okay,
and you and I both know that too, so and
I do.
Speaker 8 (01:46:59):
Know what Phil Brown talent?
Speaker 5 (01:47:02):
Okay, how many times did you watch him play in
college and pro? How many times did you watch training
camp this year?
Speaker 1 (01:47:10):
Who are you talking about?
Speaker 8 (01:47:12):
Yeah, mass chador man? He you know how many of
his completion of percentage?
Speaker 3 (01:47:19):
Arthur?
Speaker 2 (01:47:20):
I understand he's a good player. You're missing the you're
missing the point here.
Speaker 5 (01:47:24):
You don't listen to me enough. Number one is and
you're going back, which is, just shut up for a second.
Just shut up for one second. Okay, Just shut your
friggin mouth for one second, or this will be the
last time number one. As you say, all you guys,
where was the same energy for Eli? And let me
show you how dumb you are sometimes the IQ of
a brick? Okay, first off, when was Eli Manning drafted?
Speaker 8 (01:47:48):
Dan?
Speaker 5 (01:47:49):
Dan?
Speaker 1 (01:47:50):
Dan two thousand?
Speaker 5 (01:47:54):
Next time he's supposed to be vetted, I might have
to put it. I try to love the guy, and
given another day, it'll be the last day Arthur's ever.
Speaker 1 (01:47:59):
Allowed this show.
Speaker 7 (01:48:00):
What Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:48:01):
I fo ok four four over twenty years? What did
I live here?
Speaker 7 (01:48:04):
In four?
Speaker 1 (01:48:06):
Were you here?
Speaker 5 (01:48:06):
I was at the draft covering the Chargers draft with
Rivers with AJ Smith in San Diego for ESPN. Now,
Arthur and I had never talked. What does Arthur know
about my energy for Eli Manning and Philip Rivers? Did
he find me the clip? He can't because he's dumber
than a pile of rocks. Okay, because he's got this.
(01:48:26):
You know what the narrative is, right, like I said yesterday,
you know the undertone that he's bringing.
Speaker 1 (01:48:31):
Correct. Okay.
Speaker 5 (01:48:33):
He couldn't answer the kirk Cousins question, though, I wonder
why because it was flipped.
Speaker 1 (01:48:36):
What a shock.
Speaker 5 (01:48:38):
I know guys on TV that everything they do is
everything has this road. Number one you didn't know me
in two thousand and four two is you don't have
any idea what I said about the Eli Manning, Philip
Rivers Archie Manning thing.
Speaker 1 (01:48:50):
What a shock.
Speaker 5 (01:48:51):
I know why you're saying that, and so do you, Arthur.
Hence your nickname two is coming on here and saying, well,
I'm the only one in the country he doesn't believe it'sbotage.
You're dumber than I thought. And may God have mercy
on your soul. And I award you no points again
because the world doesn't think. Now, people who have an undertone,
and you know what that undertone is, think that he
(01:49:12):
was sabotaged exactly. And I don't really care what mel
Kuiper thinks about Shador Sanders. Mel Kuiper saying shadeor Santders
should have been the first pick of the draft is
out of his ever loving friggin mind.
Speaker 1 (01:49:22):
And I love Melon.
Speaker 5 (01:49:23):
He's damn good at what he does. But thirty two
owners and thirty two general managers and thirty two coaches
know far more than mel Kiper does about why they
do and don't draft him.
Speaker 2 (01:49:34):
Mel's really really damn good.
Speaker 5 (01:49:35):
He doesn't know more about the quarterback position than Kevin Stefanski.
I think people that think that it was sabotage are
dumber than a pile of rocks.
Speaker 1 (01:49:44):
Two. How's that so?
Speaker 5 (01:49:46):
If you want to play that well, Sean, Since you
seem to have telepathy about me in two thousand and four,
show me what I said about Rivers and about Manning. See,
because you think I was here, I didn't get here
till twenty thirteen, you clown. And that's for a guy
I like. Imagine if I didn't like you, what i'd
be doing to you right now. Don't come on here.
(01:50:06):
As I asked Tripoli, never again. I told you not
to put him on. It's not your fault. This guy
comes on and there's the undertone that always happens. It
ain't gonna happen on this show.
Speaker 3 (01:50:17):
It won't.
Speaker 5 (01:50:18):
They'll have to escort me out of this building before
I allow these undertones. A crap to continue. To come
on here and quit putting words in people's mouth because
no one said that like that, and not everybody finks.
And I already know you lost credibility here, Arthur, And
I like you why because you said mel Kuiper knows
more than anybody about football. Mel Kuiper knows a lot.
(01:50:39):
He does know more than anybody. Mel Kuiper wants us
to eliminate cover two from pro football so we can
throw the deep ball, and that's where you're getting your
He's the best in the business.
Speaker 3 (01:50:50):
Oh.
Speaker 5 (01:50:51):
He covers the draft as well as anybody in the history,
no doubt, save it, save it. He doesn't know the
quarterback position better than me or Ryan Clark or Dan
Matthews or or Dan Orlowski or no, he doesn't. Sorry,
he just doesn't. He knows the personnel at Bowling Green
better than I do. Yeah, But when it comes to
that play and what I have and know, I didn't
(01:51:12):
have Shdr Sanders as a first round talent and I
didn't have him as a fifth round talent somewhere between
three and five. Thought he was a good college player.
I think he's gonna got a chance with the right
coaching to be a damn good player, a damn good player.
But he's got weaknesses. But you're making this about I
know what you're making it about, and you and I
both do, and so does the world listening to this
trash that we have to talk about on the radio.
(01:51:34):
I'm tired of society and football in these shows creating something.
My job is to report it, not create it. I
ain't creating an issue, And just like you are, because
you want us to all say, yep, Stefanski's not playing
him because he's black.
Speaker 1 (01:51:48):
Really, oh that's right.
Speaker 5 (01:51:50):
Two hundred and thirty million to a black quarterback who
happens to be Deshaun Watson. And don't come on here
spewing that race stuff because that's never existed. And you
didn't hear me talk about Manning or Philip Rivers when
he demanded to go somewhere else, And what does that
have to do with Senor Sanders being in Cleveland? They
drafted his ass and he's a fifth rounder. He's got
no leverage fifth rounders. He's a third string quarterback that's
(01:52:12):
talked more about than Brady was after six Super Bowls.
He's just a guy right now trying to make a team.
He's the third quarterback with a chance to be good
if you'll learn, get coached right and do what he does.
Keep smiling and use that DNA and go play great football.
That that's what it's for. Has nothing to do with it.
Was what Jameis Winston on the Browns. Yeah he was
(01:52:33):
color c what color is? What color was the Tyer
Huntley black?
Speaker 1 (01:52:39):
That's right?
Speaker 2 (01:52:40):
And what color's Watson?
Speaker 1 (01:52:41):
He's black? Gm blaack.
Speaker 5 (01:52:44):
Okay, just making sure I know that Dylan Gabriel is
not the backup in flackle because one's white and one's
got Hawaiian mix. Nothing can be dumber nothing, Okay. So
I no longer say you guys in the world, don't
get to cancel some guy for going on and saying
stop the race crap, never ever again will that be
(01:53:07):
unless it's see what we do with this now we've
just cheapened. What race really does matter? Do you really
think they sit in a meeting room and say, you
know what, dude's black, can't play him. You gotta be kidding, right, Oh,
his name is Dion Sander's his Sanders can't play him?
Speaker 2 (01:53:22):
Why is he on the team?
Speaker 1 (01:53:24):
Why'd they draft him? Why is he the third string quarterback?
If it held up to what you're saying.
Speaker 5 (01:53:29):
And I don't know what again, what fifth round draft
pick has to do with Philip Rivers?
Speaker 1 (01:53:35):
Eli wanted to play somewhere else.
Speaker 5 (01:53:36):
And you not even know what my energy was in
two thousand and four because, for all I know, you
were being racist on some other show. I try to
give the guy nice he said, he loves me, right, Yeah,
I love you too. But you're not real bright when
it comes to this stuff. Sorry, You're just not. And Arthur,
what you do is you give that typical person who
sits home and thinks they know. I know, there's a
(01:53:58):
lot of people know far more than me, I hate
to tell you. When it comes to quarterback, mel ain't
one of them. Mel knows a lot about football, not
more than I do, and I talk to the same people,
meld us, okay, the same coaches. There is a reason,
and it had nothing to do with sabotaging. Every third
string or four string quarterback in the world has to
play with third string linemen. We all did, and I
lived it. I lived it as an undrafted free agent,
(01:54:21):
which is what two rounds behind him.
Speaker 2 (01:54:23):
I lived it.
Speaker 5 (01:54:25):
And the third round is always going to get more
love than the fifth rounder. They don't deserve equal just
because guess what, because they drafted him higher, so he's
going to get more looks as Dylan Gabriel has nothing
to do with color of his skin.
Speaker 1 (01:54:34):
So stop it.
Speaker 5 (01:54:36):
Your undertones suck and hence why you got the nickname.
In case you didn't know, racist Arthur at this network
for a year before I came here, you ad it,
So stop it. When you want to call in here
and act normal, well listen, I'm tired of it. And
I said on my Twitter, I'm not talking about third
string quarterbacks today that aren't playing. Next week, We're gonna
(01:54:57):
have a lot of time to talk about Sanders. One
that likes him. But I'm honest in my criticism of
his game. But I also know that he played well
in the first game and that helped him make this team.
He's not ready to play. He shouldn't be the backup,
and he You know what, there's nothing that says we're
entitled to equal reps when we're drafted lower have to
make it. I was a sixth quarterback on a roster.
I didn't get equal reps. I didn't get him because
(01:55:18):
I didn't earn him. And when I finally did it,
I got more reps and made the team.
Speaker 1 (01:55:22):
Simple.
Speaker 5 (01:55:23):
The stupidity sometimes, and I told you guys that kinder gentler.
When you come on with that, he will no longer
be kinder gentler. I'd rather be suspended than deal with
this crap, trust me. And I'm about three seconds away
from f bombing him into the into the into the gutters.
If he's not careful, and I don't care, what are
they gonna do? Take my scholarship that already happened in
(01:55:45):
my life. Can't take a second one, Okay, I prepared
for it. Stop it. Don't put him on the show
ever again, fair enough ever again until he wants to
come in and actually talk. Why shoulder is a good player?
That did you see him? He completed seventy percent. Said yeah,
and if maya head ball, she'd be my uncle.
Speaker 1 (01:56:02):
Go to break.
Speaker 2 (01:56:06):
This Sean Salisbury show continues.
Speaker 1 (01:56:11):
Now our good buddy, biscuit, Biscuit, good morning.
Speaker 7 (01:56:15):
Hey, what's happening to my brothers?
Speaker 1 (01:56:16):
What's up?
Speaker 10 (01:56:17):
Man? Hey?
Speaker 7 (01:56:20):
Hey, shout the Bible say be slow to anger? Man,
Who do you get angry?
Speaker 3 (01:56:26):
Dude?
Speaker 5 (01:56:26):
That's slow to angers? It has seven years with this dude, man,
seven years Okay, that ain't just yesterday. This dude is Undertonisconsin.
I don't know in twenty one years ago. Does he
have any idea what we said about Eli Manning and
Philip Rivers.
Speaker 1 (01:56:42):
I wasn't even in this damn town.
Speaker 5 (01:56:46):
Chase Gosh, dang, talk about a no common sense I
Q and just come on and give your point, not you.
It just like and you know, nobody gets more leverage
and leeway with the callers than I gave him all
the platform they need.
Speaker 10 (01:56:59):
Arthur.
Speaker 1 (01:57:00):
Arthur just lost his football card on this show.
Speaker 7 (01:57:05):
Well. One of the things Sean I would say, man,
is when people see something and they feel like this
not adding up, then they sometimes attribute the wrong thing
to it because, like you you know what fifth round?
When he went into fifth round, that's what got people
to scratch in the head, like, hold onup man there
(01:57:26):
trying to tell me he's a fifth round So what's
the deal? Uh?
Speaker 10 (01:57:30):
You know?
Speaker 7 (01:57:30):
And then he attributed to race when it probably is
something else. I think, Shane, two questions I want to
ask you. One, do you think Cleveland is the spot
for a door to develop? Don't it? Would it be
better for him to get cut and then get picked
up by maybe somebody else. We both know he need developing,
(01:57:52):
but its Cleveland the spot for him to develop.
Speaker 5 (01:57:55):
I think the Waters too muddied their biscuit because you
know they've still got to it's one thing developed with
one thing is also getting the opportunity to develop that right,
you go to the place you got Dashaun at two thirty.
When Deshaun Watson's back healthy, guess who's gonna start. He's
gonna get the look because they're paying. I mean, it's
guaranteed money. What are you gonna do? You have to
(01:58:15):
play him? Well, we'll see who he is. Flac Goo's
just there. I mean, well he's a stop gap. He's
a pretty good one. At least he's a veteran that
wins games. And you got Dylan Gabriel, you drafted the
third round, who's always gonna get the first look until
he proves he can't why they got to validate why
they drafted somebody there as opposed to guy they drafted
in the fifth round.
Speaker 1 (01:58:32):
So you're exactly right. The best place for him.
Speaker 5 (01:58:35):
Hell, the truth of the matter is, you know what
would have been a good place is if they'd have
kept Kenny Pickett and traded him to the Raiders. But
they wanted a veteran backup because there you got Pete Carroll,
who's good with it. You got Geno Smith, who's a
veteran who's been through where he was a little bit
of a journeyman early has turned into a great pro
bowler and the hell of a player. And he's gonna
get reps there. I don't see how he's gonna get
(01:58:56):
reps here when Deshaun's back. So as far as development goes, Listen,
he's tough in the play. He's got some good things, Biscuit,
he really does. He's got some good game, but he's
a long way off from being ready to play, as
is Dylan Gabriel. But You're exactly right. The development where
you get reps and can be coached properly. He needs
to be coached properly because he's always really think about it,
(01:59:18):
biscuit real quick. When has he ever had to roll
through the heavy competition in high school? He got the
job his dad coached him at Jackson not saying he
didn't he wasn't a good player, because he's been a
good player at every level. At Jackson State, it was
his gig. Hey, they had an incumbent in Colorado, and
when his dad got the job, it wasn't competition. Chanor
was going to start and he played well. So this
(01:59:38):
is the first time he's had a face. I'm a
third stringer. I wasn't the first guy picked. I got
to fight through it. Yes, there is something to do
with it, but development matters and get reps matters. You're
one hundred percent correct.
Speaker 7 (01:59:50):
The second thing, I would say, shine and it's kind
of in its society led Really it's the same thing
that CC is faces Cleveland Clard. There's a lot of
people I think was hurting Schadure's people like Arthur. So
people like Arthur get people to hold that against it.
Let this just judge Shador on what you do.
Speaker 5 (02:00:12):
It does and it's not fair to Shad, right, I mean,
all this expectation on him come on exactly.
Speaker 7 (02:00:18):
Yeah, he's not his dad people, so people will hold
that against Shade a way. We don't want to bring
him in because it's too much hype behind him or whatever.
Speaker 10 (02:00:27):
You know, like you say, he got a talent, man, Uh,
he just needs to.
Speaker 7 (02:00:32):
Learn how to give up on the play. Though it
seemed like he just that's his main deal to me.
I heard somebody say to me he got pocket presence
and he's kind of acting with throwing the ball where
he want to play.
Speaker 5 (02:00:42):
It's very accurate. He just doesn't need to play hero
ball and he'll learn that as he gets more reps.
It's just crazy. And I said both, it's unfair to
him too experience, yes.
Speaker 7 (02:00:52):
And I think also the speed of the game. You know,
it's a learning current for all quarterbacks coming out of college,
you know, learn the speed of the game of the NFA.
So you know, we'll see.
Speaker 2 (02:01:02):
I don't know.
Speaker 7 (02:01:03):
My thing is, I don't know Cleveland's a spot.
Speaker 5 (02:01:05):
For well, they've had enough trouble since Bernie Cozar trying
to find the quarterback right there as you and I
both don't miss and we got to go to break
but real, thanks for the call. But you know what,
even through all that, I'm one of those guys, I
still have a soft place in my heart for Arthur
because I've tried to talk into understanding what we're all
looking at.
Speaker 1 (02:01:22):
It's like, we want you to be part of this.
Speaker 5 (02:01:23):
Of course, and I keep giving dude, dude, you you
could only irritate my face and tell me it's right,
and so many times before I say enough and I do.
He said, I love you. I love him too, but
you just you can't keep doing this.
Speaker 3 (02:01:36):
Oh.
Speaker 4 (02:01:36):
Look, we're in a service industry, right and just like
you know bars restaurants, sometimes you got to kick your
friends out and tell them, hey, look you're not banned,
but I just can't have you.
Speaker 1 (02:01:44):
Here tonight, yeah, or tomorrow or the next day. But
just next time we want you back in.
Speaker 5 (02:01:48):
Next time you come in, don't run out on your bill. Yeah,
I don't expect a free beer. Try try to fight
the guy at the bar, because you're right, And like
I said, it's just you got to look into it
and if you're gonna come with it, you got understan
where I've been. I wasn't here when Eli Manning, so
you have no idea what I said it down and
I don't know where the Eli Manning slash slash Shador Sanders.
(02:02:09):
One was the first pick of the draft. One was
a fifth round pick, third string quarterback. And the truth,
Shador doesn't need all this in order for his developments.
He now he just begets to become a normal guy
that can work on his craft even though he's a Sanders.
Speaker 1 (02:02:24):
Well now, I mean yeah, it's the thing.
Speaker 4 (02:02:25):
Now he's on a team, and let it play out
the way it should play out, all right, Big Jay,
John Brandon, see you guys right there working into the conversation.
Gordy gonna join us here during the nine o'clock hour
two here on a Tuesday edition Shan Sualisbury Show.

Albury Salisbury House did Okay, Let's do this? Sean Salisbury
to USC Troupes, longtime friend, Sewn Salisbury, Dan Matthews, ECUs,
this is the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 4 (02:04:32):
He's Sean Salisbury, Sean Salisbury Show, Triple Emmanuel Elmore, Dan Matthews,
Chris Cordy gonna hop in with us here during the
nine o'clock hour for his Tuesday visit on the show
courtesy of Carbach Brewing. As the astro is gonna get
back to action tonight after being off last night. And
also to Sean, we will be keeping a close eye
on the lineup card roster moves any of those things,
(02:04:55):
because perhaps number forty four is back in the lineup tonight,
I would anticipate, yes, I would think so.
Speaker 1 (02:05:02):
The reason he wouldn't be right at.
Speaker 4 (02:05:04):
This point, I mean unless Sunday he came out of
dhing for Corpus Christie and they're like, app hand is
not feeling quite right, guys. Sorry, And I think at
that point then it'd be like, Okay, is this gonna
happen in twenty twenty five, But Joe Mixon also going
to be out for at least the first four games
of the season. Roster cutdown, deadline coming up this afternoon,
(02:05:25):
And how about Deontay Johnson today released by the Browns.
Let's just go through a quick timeline of former Texans
receiver Deontay Johnson. Traded from the Steelers to the Panthers
March of twenty twenty four. October traded from the Panthers
to the Ravens, and less than a couple of months later,
December twenty second, he was waived by the Ravens, then
the very following day claimed by the Texans, three weeks later,
(02:05:49):
waved by the Texans, claimed again the following day by
the Ravens, and then last April or yeah, last April,
the twenty eighth signing with the Browns, and today being released.
That is, I think somebody said the eighth transaction for
Deontay Johnson in the past eighteen months.
Speaker 5 (02:06:06):
Let's just leave it at this. It's not about talent.
It ain't about his skill set how he applies it.
Maybe the problem the guy's a talented player, but you've
heard he's.
Speaker 1 (02:06:19):
There.
Speaker 5 (02:06:19):
May be he may need to getting to the point
that he he wants to keep exhausted. He may need
to find something else to do if it doesn't get
better at his approach to it. I don't know why
he didn't make Cleveland's team, but there's a he's two.
How many years he been in the league, four five,
it's been longer that. Maybe it's been longer, but it
(02:06:39):
just I mean, like I said, you see certain guys
you say, man, what a bummer? So skilled, got a talent,
and then you can't figure out why it keeps not
working out. Whether it's dedication, whether it's lonely work, whether
it's sitting in the meetings and learning, whether it's making
mistakes on the practical stuff. We don't see that we
can't see from here because we're not at their practice
every day, and we're not you know, we're not doing
their thing every day that they do what they see.
(02:07:00):
But this would be his sixth year in the league
and his eighth team. Yes, eight team. Yeah, there there's
and I would imagine, well we already know on some
of them.
Speaker 1 (02:07:09):
Well, the next one he catches on with us to
be his fifth team. Oh, fifth team.
Speaker 5 (02:07:12):
I thought you said, I thought you said he had
been different transactions, all transactions. Okay, Yeah, regardless, he's got
some skill set. The problem is it just hasn't stuck.
And that I think is deeper than just football rules.
I mean, football play on the field. It's just and
we've heard it. You know, he's had his runnings and
stuff and had some issues.
Speaker 1 (02:07:31):
But he's a talented player.
Speaker 5 (02:07:33):
But there comes a point in time when that's got
to be the consistent talent on which you show those
guys every day. But I have no idea why he
didn't there because on the prax field. That's why, from
a distance I try not to judge something that I
don't see, because I don't know what's going on with
him on the prax fielder in the meeting room, only
those coaches do they felt they'd seen enough and enough
to move them on.
Speaker 7 (02:07:52):
You know what this is?
Speaker 4 (02:07:53):
This is in certain cases, you know, if people, you know,
saying a reason why a player didn't play or they
got cut. It's the same as the guy who says, oh,
I would have started for the varsity in high school,
but the coach didn't like me. Oh, you were good
enough to start, but the coach just decided that you
can't help the team win. And it was all out
of you know, just personal spite that they said no, no,
(02:08:15):
you know, trust me. I've known plenty of players, I've
been teammates with them that have played for coaches that
I knew that the coach could not stand them. But
they also realized, hey, do I like coaching this team? Yeah,
I should probably play guys that are gonna help me win.
Speaker 5 (02:08:27):
And one thing about it, when people say I was
good enough to start, but we had an attitude difference
between me and my coach, we got a conflict. We
didn't get along. Well, guess what that means that you're
not good enough to start? Because good enough just isn't physical.
Good enough's mental emotional preparation. Study well, listen, and whether
(02:08:48):
it's in high school or college, there are times guess
who you're subordinate is. He's your boss, he makes the
decisions on your career. There's a lot of things we
do in our careers like, man, I hate doing that,
or the guy doesn't like me as much. But good
work always trumps personality differences. As long as you respect
you have personality difference. As long as you're not that
guy in the building or that girl in the building
(02:09:09):
that everybody can't stand because you come to work and
just a pain in the ass about everything and creating chaos,
then you're out. But between that coach, there's plenty of coaches. Listen,
you don't have to like them all, but there's got
to be respect. So when somebody says, well he was
good enough to make it, but that but is all
the other stuff that he couldn't get along with. And
guess what coach is your head coach or your president coach.
Speaker 1 (02:09:28):
Guess what.
Speaker 5 (02:09:30):
You're either going to do it their way usually or
somebody's gonna go And in the high school case, it's
usually the high school player that falls up on the
losing end of that. And so if you're good enough,
you're good enough to do it. In always it's not
just one way. And that's why those guys that don't
see the field that can you imagine I always say
it is a headache out weigh the talent, and if
(02:09:52):
the headacheut weighs the talent, that's when the guy doesn't play.
Speaker 1 (02:09:54):
And that's a problem.
Speaker 5 (02:09:55):
And usually and in the NFL, when the headaches bigger
than the talent, then you end up moving them. One
that happened yearly in the NFL.
Speaker 4 (02:10:02):
All right, Well, as I mentioned, it's a Tuesday, that
means Chris Gordy courtesy a car Bock Brewing Astros, college football,
everything in between.
Speaker 1 (02:10:10):
It's all a fair game with our guy.
Speaker 11 (02:10:12):
Can I just say man Year twenty twenty five, Sean
felt for the oldest trick of the book. Arthur in
Spring has been calling these phone lines for twenty years.
He has been banned, and you thought he changed. I
tried to be kind to extending an olive Brads, you
thought that that's psycho psychotic. I don't even know what
to call it. And I got a side pot over here.
(02:10:33):
You know your assistant program director who co hosts from
ten to two every single day. I mean, he's been
a big fan of Arthur joining us last couple of years. Yeah,
he loves it, but he has been banned for for forever.
He I think we were convinced at one point he
lives in a psych ward and would call because he
would clog up our phone lines call all six lines
were like what does he does he own?
Speaker 6 (02:10:53):
Like eighteen burner phones?
Speaker 5 (02:10:55):
Like what does he doing badly? Get back to back
days of the other phone, Arthur, I did is an
olive branch, dude. I gave him a tree. Okay, two
days in a row, and I understand, but I still said,
just coming out of this, I'm still trying to figure
out he still didn't tell me why he thinks Sanders
should be the starter in Cleveland. It got to Eli
(02:11:15):
Manning and Philip Rivers thanks back in twenty two thousand
and four when I wasn't here got it.
Speaker 11 (02:11:21):
So the sad thing is that's what he wanted. He
wanted you to go on. That's he He was laughing
his butt off enjoying that.
Speaker 7 (02:11:27):
So was.
Speaker 1 (02:11:27):
I enjoyed the hell out of it. I very great.
Speaker 5 (02:11:29):
And the only thing they stopped me from a jointing
more is I could have slung about fourteen f bumps,
but I can't do that.
Speaker 1 (02:11:33):
I'm just glad I was on the side.
Speaker 11 (02:11:35):
There you go, all right, You know it is weird
though you brought up a good point like, why is
Sports Center? Why are they so obsessed with that storyline?
If she was a good player, he'll play, if he'll
be a backup.
Speaker 1 (02:11:46):
Come on, and here's what else?
Speaker 8 (02:11:49):
What you know what?
Speaker 2 (02:11:50):
He's a third string quarterback? Is a fifth round pick?
Speaker 1 (02:11:53):
Guess what? No, I want to welcome to every other
fifth round pick? Did his say?
Speaker 5 (02:11:59):
Had a guy drafted in front of him and has
a veteran in front of him that you just happened
to be the third string guy? What listen, if he'd
have thrown four touchdown passes in the final in that
second half of that preseason game, if he had thrown
four touchdown passes, guess what. Guess where he'd be today,
the third string quarterback because they got the guy in
front of him, Della grey Bill, who is drafted in
front of him. Regardless of the color of his skin,
(02:12:20):
you're always gonna give that guy to look like Robert
Griffin got over Kirk Cousins when he was drafted out
of him. And not only that, the guy behind him,
you know who has a gripe? Who's who's the backup
on that team that's actually performed pretty well. Now he's
had some struggles but that you can kind of count
on Huntley has been, was good in Baltimore, was a
successful guy. He didn't get reps as he could play.
I didn't get any fair reps. You brought me in
(02:12:41):
a camp boy.
Speaker 1 (02:12:41):
He was I just a right. So everybody's got a
gripe at this time.
Speaker 5 (02:12:47):
The bottom line is I've never met an NFL franchise
and look at the guy says, you know what, we
drafted him. We're gonna keep him on the roster. But
let's sabotage just play.
Speaker 1 (02:12:53):
Stop.
Speaker 4 (02:12:53):
It happens to be making a layover where Ben Denucci
is right. Oh you too, Yeah, I'll tell you this.
Speaker 6 (02:13:00):
The NFL still has a backup quarterback problem.
Speaker 1 (02:13:02):
Major.
Speaker 11 (02:13:03):
I would rather watch your door play than any of
these backup quarterbacks in the league.
Speaker 6 (02:13:08):
I mean, run through the names of Mac Jones.
Speaker 11 (02:13:12):
I mean, the list goes on and on on of
tight badgint like, I'm sorry, I don't want to watch this.
Speaker 3 (02:13:20):
Man.
Speaker 1 (02:13:20):
He's probably one of the three.
Speaker 10 (02:13:21):
Oh.
Speaker 5 (02:13:22):
Now, there's a big difference in wanting to watch a
guy play because of what he brings. That of what
he brings that you like the excitement of the thrill
and the banter that goes with it. That's a big
difference in actually watching somebody who may be a little better.
There's we got a good starting group in the NFL.
We got really good players. But I'm going to tell
you the fall off with the second guy. You can't
name five teams so you can count on their backup
(02:13:42):
to win your going as.
Speaker 6 (02:13:43):
The backup in Detroit?
Speaker 11 (02:13:45):
If Jared Golf goes down with a ninjur in week one,
are they making the playoffs?
Speaker 1 (02:13:48):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (02:13:49):
Didn't we bring that guy?
Speaker 1 (02:13:50):
There you go?
Speaker 5 (02:13:51):
And didn't we bring a guy out of the out
of retirement and then walks onto He signed August fifth.
He's now the backup in Tampa to Baker Mayfield in
Teddy Bridgewater. Where's Elvis Karbaka there you go? Or Steve
Young when he needs no more eligibility? Sanders or Nick Mullens?
Which one you watch?
Speaker 7 (02:14:07):
Give me?
Speaker 5 (02:14:08):
Give me Mullins for the for the boring part, give
me Sanders for the excitement. And man Schador will get
his chance. It just usually doesn't happen for a fifth
round pick on a roster that's got a two hundred
and thirty million dollars quarterback in a veteran. His time
will come. I just don't know how we've created this narrative.
I've never seen a fifth round pick get more. Tibo
(02:14:28):
was a first round pick and probably shouldn't have been. Yeah,
so it's just the stuff that we that we banter about.
And can we just let the guy have a platform
to get better? I mean, because his last name Sanders,
can he just have the platform? Treat him like every
other fifth round pick, whether you think he's a first
round talent or not or anywhere in between. The Browns
(02:14:48):
didn't think he was a first round talent, and now
he's got a chance to show what he can do
by working on his craft.
Speaker 1 (02:14:54):
That's really that simple.
Speaker 4 (02:14:55):
Nothing but clickbaits and hot takes with Chris Corny courtesy
at Carbock Brewing.
Speaker 1 (02:15:00):
Here Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 3 (02:15:03):
The Hottest Tastes sports so emotionally tied to the team.
Speaker 5 (02:15:08):
The Sean Salisbury Show continues on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 11 (02:15:14):
Feared that on Sunday when when they lost that one
and the Mariners put it on the A's, I said, uh,
the Astors are off Monday, there's a chance of Seattle
beat San Diego. There we're gonna go into Tuesday, just
a game and a half up and that's where we are.
So but again to your point, the good news is
sounds like Jordan is expected back tonight. You're playing the
(02:15:36):
lowly Colorado Rockies. What Steve Sparks tell you guys yesterday
about the run differential?
Speaker 5 (02:15:41):
Like, oh, it's everybody and I Steve had mentioned it earlier.
That's why I said it's near three fifty.
Speaker 6 (02:15:50):
Everybody scores on them, let's go.
Speaker 5 (02:15:52):
So I'm with Steve though, too, Gordy, wouldn't it be
wouldn't you consider it a loss of a series if
you if you win the series but don't sweep it's
it's I'm talking about it considering where we are in
the season.
Speaker 11 (02:16:05):
Right, I'll take two out of three. I mean, we
keep just keep doing two out of three, two out
of three, keep winning series. But I get it they suck.
You should sweep them?
Speaker 5 (02:16:13):
Yeah, should, I'd say be failures probably, but a kind
of it's kind of a semi l for me.
Speaker 1 (02:16:19):
But you're kind of pardon to part five.
Speaker 6 (02:16:21):
Head case fraud. We're on the mount tomorrow, I mean
from him.
Speaker 5 (02:16:25):
Yeah, don't let Colorado come out by the inning?
Speaker 6 (02:16:28):
And like what the hell you doing.
Speaker 4 (02:16:30):
I mean, that's that's been an issue for him, especially
the last five starts. I mean you mentioned it though
against a softer opponent, because I mean the Rockies are
twenty eleven astros right now. It's not even remotely competitive there.
But I mean a good spot for Jord on that
maybe he can get that confidence back of facing a
team that is completely depleted at this point.
Speaker 11 (02:16:51):
Yeah, by the way, for one hundred dollars, can you
name the Rockies manager?
Speaker 4 (02:16:56):
No, I know, I know their bench coach. We know,
we both know the bench coach because we had him
on right and he was the former manager. But no,
pull that one at the bar. See if you can
stump anybody with that.
Speaker 5 (02:17:07):
Onetles trying to make sure everything is going better?
Speaker 6 (02:17:10):
Right, Yeah, because you googled it. I'm ready you can't.
You can't google it Trip Warren Schaffer.
Speaker 1 (02:17:19):
Yeah, you could have the famous you could have him
in this room right now. Paul Brother there there you go. Well,
why the glasses the bald head?
Speaker 5 (02:17:29):
I get it, I see it now. And why would
we say Jordon needs confidence to play the Rockies. He
just played the Rockies down in Corpus Christie.
Speaker 6 (02:17:36):
Yeah, he might have played a better team than the Rockets.
Speaker 5 (02:17:39):
It's a I mean, but those I have told you
this before, they can be dangerous for the reason of
you're just free swinging man, and you may run into
a couple. And if you run into a couple early,
I know a left hander that gets a little sideways
that were waiting for him to get back on it
and from her here as we talked about. So I
just think this is this is one of those where
you get you you extend your lead to three strokes
(02:18:01):
with a with a sweep of the series. You have
to sweep this series.
Speaker 11 (02:18:05):
They just finished a series they got swept by the Pirates.
They scored zero one zero. You have your three best
arms going Hunter Brown from Bervelde is Jason Alexander.
Speaker 6 (02:18:17):
Go sweep these fours.
Speaker 1 (02:18:18):
Yes, you have to.
Speaker 5 (02:18:21):
Mean the truth is if you score four runs a game,
five or shouldn't you win all three?
Speaker 4 (02:18:25):
Yes?
Speaker 6 (02:18:27):
Absolutely well.
Speaker 4 (02:18:28):
And the other part of it too is, I mean
we do the golf analogy all the time of birdying
and eagling the par fives. I mean that's if you're
going to finish this thing off, You're gonna have to
do it because you can't keep counting on, well, we
lost tonight, but so did Seattle, because that runs out.
Speaker 1 (02:18:43):
I mean, Seattle is.
Speaker 5 (02:18:44):
A run into each other for three games at some point,
and then they get to play this Colorado team one
fifine right here.
Speaker 4 (02:18:52):
I mean, and you know, Seattle plays incredibly well at
home too. So if you can't take care of these
teams at home, which the last two times you've had
soft opponents come in here, you got swept by one
of them, which Cleveland's still somewhat in the playoff push.
Speaker 1 (02:19:05):
And then the same a's who's the Padres last night?
Yeah they did. That's Birdie and A Part five. Yeah,
that keeps you where you want to be.
Speaker 5 (02:19:12):
Now they're a game and a half out, so it's
gonna be the final week of the season more than likely.
But this is a type where you just have to
say enough's enough and you have to bury this team
three straight.
Speaker 3 (02:19:22):
You just do.
Speaker 5 (02:19:23):
They're they're they're not really a formidable fo even though
they're pros. The whole sum of it's just not good.
Speaker 1 (02:19:28):
There's not Gordy, what do you think about?
Speaker 5 (02:19:32):
Uh? Highest rated college game Day? And we're gonna talk
more about Thursday, but highest rated College Game Day ever
this week?
Speaker 11 (02:19:39):
Oh yeah, absolutely, of course, So farewell, that's as funny
all this hulla baloo about Fox Big New and kickoffire
Dave Portnoy and they're not gonna wile them in the
stadium and all this stuff. That's great and all. I
don't know how many people are gonna be watching that.
Everybody's gonna be watching College Game Day and the tribute
to Courso.
Speaker 1 (02:19:59):
You just you just did it.
Speaker 4 (02:20:00):
That's why that news is out here today because it's
it's hey, you know, we we've got some we've got
some drama. Oh is that Dave Portnoy.
Speaker 5 (02:20:07):
Listen, you could set the Fox. You could sit the
Fox set at the fifty yard line for kickoff while
the game started, and with Lee Corso retiring, it ain't
gonna matter. Now Ad Portannoy will add something to that.
But in truth, even this week, if you watch Fox,
if you like that pregame show, you're still gonna flip
to the other one to make sure that you get
(02:20:28):
see Lee Corso and you want to see the emotion
with herb Street and the rest of it. And also
that it's almost as if you should have waited one
more week to get Portnoy to introduce him, so you
got the stage the next week. Because this is two
This is two impactful moves by both, but one slightly
bigger because of who the guy is. And I wonder
if College game I'm gonna I wonder if Fox will
(02:20:49):
even acknowledge it saying, I mean, like like you would
like you know, Nance will say, we'll turn it over
to our NBC friends for the US opening. Dan Hicks,
I wonder if they mentioned Corso at all, because pregame
shows in college football, he's the pioneer.
Speaker 6 (02:21:05):
Show doesn't exist if game day That's exactly right.
Speaker 1 (02:21:08):
If there's one time to do it, it would be
this one.
Speaker 5 (02:21:11):
I mean, and I think it would be almost respectful,
well to you don't have to sit there and harp
on him, so a feature of him. So you know what,
we just want to send our love to you know,
even if you did at the end of the show.
Speaker 11 (02:21:21):
Chris Filica right is on Fox now, who was part
of that game, Dacre for thirty years.
Speaker 5 (02:21:26):
No question, and huge to it and huge for Corso,
and they loved each other and still do. So it
wouldn't and I wouldn't be so shocked if if they
allow Felika to send that message during the show, maybe
later in it so people don't turn early, but later
in the show to say I just want to send
my love to le Corso, pioneer and legend in this business.
God bless you move on. And I think it would
be a classic move. It's not going to change. And
(02:21:47):
think people are going to watch Corso anyway, Wait till
you watch that one. I watched the one hour special
the other night they did to him.
Speaker 11 (02:21:52):
I mean bawling. I mean, you're grown man. You will
be crying watching the League Corset.
Speaker 5 (02:21:58):
And here's the great thing, you know, the guys the
set will which which would Gordian you make such a
great point because you think about we're while we're removed
from it, we almost feel And I think that's the
good thing of a show, a movie that brings you in,
an actor, a broadcaster, whatever it is. They bring you
our radio show, they bring you into the point where
you feel like you were sitting on the set with them.
(02:22:19):
And that's what that show has done. Hence why grown
men in their living room drinking a bloody marry are
going to be crying.
Speaker 1 (02:22:25):
Yeah, this week watching Lee Corsu.
Speaker 11 (02:22:27):
It's magnified too because of the stroke, like m question
from the stroke and the role reversal where he was
the leader holding Herbstreet's hand, getting him settled into game day,
and how it's flipped that Herbstreet's holding his hand helping
god him.
Speaker 6 (02:22:42):
It's just it's beautiful.
Speaker 1 (02:22:43):
Absolutely, you got time to stick around or you gotta go.
You brass strokes all right there, you got that drive, dude,
you got to stay on. Lets go. You know, he's
part of the brass. So I just wanted to be
respectful of his time.
Speaker 3 (02:22:52):
You know.
Speaker 1 (02:22:53):
That's all subordinate brother, to give him the love.
Speaker 4 (02:22:56):
Hey, look, I'm trying to make sure that I'm not,
you know, the guy on the varsity in high school
and he's the coach, hey, because I think if he's
the coach, then I'm in trouble.
Speaker 5 (02:23:03):
He's gonna say, hey, man, you couldn't get you to Hey,
it's just a dan. Yeah, it's just a numbers game,
that's it. Yeah, it's nothing personal. That's always my favorite,
but he's Chris Gordy courtesy at Carbach Brewing. Continue the
Astros discussion, maybe even weave in a little bit of
Texans here as we continue here on a Tuesday for
the Shawn Salisbury Show, continued time, and Lord will and
(02:23:25):
everything will be well for by Brick. He's a real
big brick by Brick.
Speaker 11 (02:23:30):
If you're worrying already about tomorrow, have you given today enough?
I mean that's the truth.
Speaker 4 (02:23:35):
Yeah, I live in the moment. That's Chris Gordy in
a nutshell right there. But you mentioned it. Stro is
going to get back to action tonight. Rockies in town,
Texans gonna be without Joe Mixon for at least first
four games of this season. And our good buddy Aaron
Wilson reporting that offensive lineman Trent Brown gonna be one
of the cuts. So trying to get from ninety down
(02:23:55):
to fifty three.
Speaker 11 (02:23:57):
Also, tight end Irv Smith has an ankle spring be
an i R situation. Aaron Wilson says, So get old
Finn there at the tight end spot.
Speaker 1 (02:24:06):
I completely forgot that he was still on the roster.
I'm gonna be honest with you.
Speaker 5 (02:24:09):
Yeah, they yeah, he's not only there but banged up.
That that's a depleted position right now, did they not
did they trade? Did they get a tight end in
the trade? Who they traded for Harrison Bryant. That's right
from the part of that's right, Yeah, I knew that.
I figured there was, But still the depth and the
performance part of it. Man, that's an InVogue important position
(02:24:32):
and it'll be important for this team this year and
how you implement it in the passing game for sure.
Speaker 4 (02:24:36):
I mean you saw, I mean, just assuming that Kaylee
is going to bring over a lot of what he
learned there in h l A and even in New
England too. I mean when he was there, how much
they wanted to use the tight end position. So his
background is love it and get it involved. There's no doubt,
no doubt with where he's been. We'll see how he
applies it here. But how much Gordy the mix and
(02:24:58):
you know, first four games being without him, I mean,
I think it's twofold with this story is number one.
Clearly the team knew. That's why Nick Chubb's here, That's
why Woody Marx was traded up for on day three.
They knew that this was going to be something that lingered.
But I mean even two, don't you kind of have
to believe that you know, Oh, he heard himself during
a workout Okay, well then he wasn't fully healthy when
(02:25:20):
he was trying to get ready for the season at
that point.
Speaker 11 (02:25:22):
Yeah, I just don't get I don't know why they're
so secretive about everything. It's like, oh, no update on
Joe Mixon.
Speaker 6 (02:25:28):
No update. Clearly you have some kind of update. Clearly
you know.
Speaker 11 (02:25:31):
Something about is he gonna play tomorrow or six months
from now? Like it's uh, those still baffle me. But yeah,
I had a fantasy draft the other night and I
couldn't believe how hot like Nick Chubb keeps climbing on
these fantasy rankings. I'm like, why the hell's Nick Chubb right,
you know, moving up the ranks here. It's because the
thought is, oh, Mixing Mixing's gonna miss the first several
(02:25:54):
weeks and maybe more after that, and everybody's betweet. All
he missed the first four weeks here, but is he
definitely back week five?
Speaker 5 (02:26:01):
Here would have been the key. If your fantasy draft
was early and you knew this, you grab Chubb and
you're saying, why would you grab Chubb? And all of
a sudden, now he becomes you get him later, you know,
a little while you take running back side, get him later.
In like the third round, and you're like, oh, dude,
he's a good backup orre you're gonna play and you
got three backs that are two backs in front of him,
and then you get him and he's getting them. He's
gonna get the majority of the work now for the
(02:26:23):
first four to six weeks. So it is going to
be a good get. And if he's healthy, look out now.
I'm just telling you, well in to Gordy's point there too, Seawn.
I mean we talked about this earlier.
Speaker 4 (02:26:31):
The one position on the field that you can't just say, ah,
give him a little bit of build up, he'll be fine.
Speaker 1 (02:26:36):
It's running back receiver. You can do that. You can
have a high ankle. You're not gonna forget how to
run routes.
Speaker 4 (02:26:40):
Maybe we can't play you as much because you're not
in game shape, but running back can't have that there.
Speaker 2 (02:26:45):
Oh no.
Speaker 5 (02:26:45):
And and we know how much punishment those guys take
and the way that he runs, meaning Chubb and Mixing,
they they deliver blows as opposed to just take him.
They're delivering them too, so they're looking up contact.
Speaker 11 (02:26:56):
So if you keep three backs, who you keep Mixing's
on the ir are Chubbs presumably your starter, and you've
got Damien Pierce who's been here forever, Dario Ogenbwally who
they love and.
Speaker 6 (02:27:09):
What he marks.
Speaker 1 (02:27:10):
And I only get to keep three.
Speaker 6 (02:27:11):
You only you get to keep two of those other three.
Speaker 5 (02:27:13):
Yeah, two of the other three because Chubb Well, I think,
to be honest with you, as much as I like
Pierce in the versatility, you know who's playing, who's going
to get a lot of carries or the majority of
the second person carries. Right now, I'm a Marx is
going to get some touches man.
Speaker 1 (02:27:30):
Feel about them.
Speaker 5 (02:27:30):
But I think that if you're saying considering what they
need and you've got Christian Kirk in the return game,
it would feel like Pierce is there and both. But
Christian Kirk did that at Jacksonville and in Arizona as well.
The depth there, so it would seem like the odd
man out would be because of the versatility on running
down on special teams in short yard with the odd
(02:27:51):
man out would be Pierce if that was the case.
But I think Marx is here, and I think he's
going to play more than you think with the mixing
and and as.
Speaker 11 (02:27:59):
You mentioned, OpEd, he's just a solid around guy. I
think guard Jordan is your practice squatter yep, And I
think you can put what he marks on the active roster.
Speaker 5 (02:28:09):
I would agree, And which means do you keep one
to what he else?
Speaker 7 (02:28:12):
Do you do?
Speaker 5 (02:28:12):
Are you trading somebody and trying somebody that's depth problem?
Do you go and say do you want Pierce that
you may need a little depth? I think that could
be an issue. I was going to say, I mean,
Pierce is a guy that it would not shock me
right now. This is just a hunch that Nick Assario
is not working the phones trying to get him traded,
because I mean, he would be valuable on another roster.
Speaker 1 (02:28:31):
I just don't know if he is here, and that that.
Speaker 5 (02:28:34):
Might be the case because Marx is making this team,
I believe, and I just think I think that he
gives you some value to at a time when you
got him what was day three, right, and when you
trade up to get him, they see something there. But
it's all listen, it's about chubbing Mixing's health and then
getting them spelled a little bit. But if they're healthy,
and when I'm talking about when Mixing comes back, right now,
(02:28:55):
you know who's going to be the twenty twenty five guy.
Speaker 1 (02:28:57):
Touch guy.
Speaker 5 (02:28:57):
It's going to be Nick Chubb and if he's healthy,
he's going to bring something that they desperately needed.
Speaker 1 (02:29:02):
It was that thump to replace mixing.
Speaker 11 (02:29:04):
What's so funny is a team that is that has
c J. Stroud, Nicocollins, all these pieces. I think they're
going to be a dominant defensive team and a grounded pound.
They want to run it down your throat. So that's like,
it's almost like they want they they're fine winning games
twenty to thirteen.
Speaker 5 (02:29:22):
They are. They would like to run it, throw it
about twenty five or four twenty five times, honestly, run
it thirty plus times. Kyle shann look at look at
his number. Kyle Shann out too, about that, Shanahan, the
whole thing. Hell, don't kid yourself. McVeigh wants to run
it more too.
Speaker 1 (02:29:37):
He does.
Speaker 5 (02:29:38):
But when he got Stafford and throwing, do you throw it?
And he may have to run it more depending on
Stafford's back and the rest of it. They want to
run it, and they want to run it a lot
and throw it about twenty five. They don't want to
go forty to twenty. They want to be twenty five
thirty five, twenty five thirty three meaning passes to runs.
But they do and they want to control the line
of scrimmage and defensive head coaches love that, and then
you turn your defense loose. And you're right, it may
(02:29:59):
not be passing fancy, yet you got one of the
best receivers, one of the best young quarterbacks on the planet,
but you're gonna use that pass to feed off what
you hope is a dominant, physical run game, and you
play off that with play action and everything else you do.
Speaker 4 (02:30:11):
Tay or Seri likely going to be the day one
starting left tackle. Any worries there rookie protecting a guy
that needs to be protected this year in CJ.
Speaker 11 (02:30:22):
Yeah, I mean you're always concerned when you start a
rookie oligneman, but you got to go through your growing
pains and learn. It's more concerning to me that Cam
Robinson was considered one of their big you know, like, oh,
they're adding offensive pieces, offensive lineman in the for agency
and they had Cam Robinson and now we're talking about
trying to trade him at bull allis because ursery is
so good, is it? Or is it because Cam Robinson sucks?
(02:30:44):
So bad that you like and put the second round
rookie out there.
Speaker 5 (02:30:48):
And Gordon, if you're willing to trade the guy that
you thought was going to be your starting left tackle,
it tells you that they don't even if you trade him.
You didn't even have him pegged for your backup right,
which which is a bit of a problem there, and
real quick for this rookie, he will listen once he gets.
The hardest thing for those guys is they're sitting there
in their three point stance or two point stance and
you're blocking the best players in the world, the best
(02:31:10):
athletes on the planet, standing out there with you know,
trying to get to the quarterback. Is it not to
outthink yourself because it's easy. You're worried about all the
line calls. When it gets right down to it, you
just control that one dude there. We'll take care of
the rest and don't jump off sides, okay, no pre
snap penalties. We'll give you a hell of a head start.
Speaker 11 (02:31:27):
Here's the question I posted to you, Sean, Can you say,
hands down right now, what's today August twenty sixth that
this Texans you feel better about this Texans offensive line
right now?
Speaker 6 (02:31:37):
Than you did last year one hundred percent?
Speaker 2 (02:31:39):
You believe that?
Speaker 1 (02:31:40):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (02:31:41):
I do.
Speaker 1 (02:31:41):
Okay, Now, did I say they're one hundred percent better?
Speaker 7 (02:31:44):
No?
Speaker 5 (02:31:44):
Do I believe that they're going to give themselves a
better chance and be better. Why do I think the
rookies better than Tunsil? No, but I can tell you this.
Tunsil puts you with pre snap penalties in a lot
of bad situations, which collateral damage. Now you're second fifteen.
Now I got to call play. Now I can give
you two good plays. And now it's third and five
and we run it for three, we're still punting. So
(02:32:05):
do I think going in people can say, now you
got rid of Tunzel? Do I think the overall group
without a star will be better?
Speaker 3 (02:32:12):
I do.
Speaker 5 (02:32:13):
I absolutely do, and it'll be helped by a physical
run game. Do I think going in that you'd have
reason to question? I absolutely do.
Speaker 1 (02:32:21):
You can't get any.
Speaker 5 (02:32:22):
Worse on pre snap penalties, and pre snap penalties are
a killer to offensive coordinators.
Speaker 1 (02:32:26):
They just are.
Speaker 5 (02:32:27):
And then the product because then all of a sudden
you're playing desperate as opposed to urgent, and there is
a huge difference. So I do, But I still think
it's the biggest weakness on the team, Gordy, and that's
mixed in now with tight end depth, which becomes a problem.
Speaker 1 (02:32:39):
All those guys right there, that's great.
Speaker 11 (02:32:41):
I almost say, I don't think the offense line will
be worse than last year, but I don't know if
it's absolutely better, it will not be dominated it.
Speaker 2 (02:32:49):
I think they're clearly the best team in this division.
Speaker 4 (02:32:52):
So you're gonna hang out with us a lot more
on Thursday, because I mean college football a full.
Speaker 1 (02:32:57):
Hour that there you go, Yeah, you got time, we'll
do it.
Speaker 6 (02:33:00):
Let's do it.
Speaker 1 (02:33:01):
Let's do it.
Speaker 4 (02:33:02):
But I mean between now and then, you've got prime
drinking conditions for some Carbock Crawford boch, you got the Astros,
and then we're getting college football fired up on Thursday.
Speaker 6 (02:33:11):
Yeah, if you.
Speaker 11 (02:33:12):
Getting back out to dyke In Park today and make
sure you grab a Crawford block for our friends at

Speaker 1 (02:33:45):
He's Chris Gordy.
Speaker 4 (02:33:46):
Carbock Brewing joins us every Tuesday and even longer this Thursday,
so look forward to that. We can get into the
Astros discussion Texans, all of that fair game for you.
Seven one three, two one two five, seven ninety as
we will wrap up this Tuesday edition of The Shawn
Salisbury Show Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (02:34:06):
Sean Salisbury continues on seven ninety.
Speaker 4 (02:34:10):
At Dan Matthews twenty seven. If you're so kind out there,
if you want to see mid pictures, well then there
you go. I'm sure I just sold it really well,
but it was a fanatics post of I'm sure you've
done autographed signings, you know where they've got fifty eight
by elevens or whatever for you to sign. You know,
you know, Shawn Salisbury, Shawn Salisbury and that somebody's right there,
(02:34:31):
just you know, pulling them back as as you sign them. Well,
they had Tom Brady signing Brady Tampa Bay jerseys and
it was the white Tampa Bay jersey. So then they
finally remove a couple of jerseys after he signed him,
and they get to Eli Manning his number ten road
jersey for the Giants, and the first one, he just
looks at the guy and the guy's like, all right,
(02:34:52):
he's not up for it. So then they did it
again and it had another number ten Manning jersey. Oh yeah,
and Tom so kindly just wrights f off. So then
they present that jersey to Eli when it was his
turn to start going through the stack of jerseys and
footballs and all of that, and Eli just goes, well,
I'll sign it, I guess, but I don't really know
(02:35:13):
what I'm gonna say.
Speaker 1 (02:35:16):
Clever, great person. I was gonna say.
Speaker 4 (02:35:18):
I mean, if there's a guy that you can do
it too, it's one of the Mannings, because you know
they've got a great sense of humor. But I think
if you're Eli right there, you just draw an arrow
to the f off right there and say that was Tom,
not me. Eli Manning Number ten. That's exactly there you go.
That's a good, great way to answer it, perfect way.
But between Eli, Peyton and Brady, and they're a lot
(02:35:38):
of good fun banter that they can tin. And you
know who wins most of the band, I mean head
to head banter. You know, Eli gets a lot of
the win of the argument. He's it's a triple threat
because Eli's got it where he's like dude uero for
two against me, whereas Peyton can't say that Peyton got
him what twice?
Speaker 1 (02:35:54):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (02:35:54):
But yeah, But the point is also that those two
can go back and forth about so much stuff as well,
and well I got this, and you got this and
I got wasn't Eli?
Speaker 1 (02:36:04):
Was he the MVP and Bull super Bowl?
Speaker 5 (02:36:05):
I believe I think he was right, and and his
wins is like, well, I don't think Peyton won both MVPSS.
It just there's a lot of fun stuff because Peyton
still gets the credit. But Eli's got him. He's got
him there, he got Brady had to head twice when
Brady was going for the undefeated season the first time.
I mean, yeah, Eli gets to sit back and say, yeah,
you guys say all you want. Yeah, I still got
(02:36:26):
something ONNYA and I'm gonna hold it over your head forever.
Speaker 4 (02:36:28):
Well, I was gonna say, I mean, it's pretty much
you could just go around the table right there, because
you know, Eli could crack on Brady and then Brady
can't really crack on him, so then it's like, well,
I got you a lot, right, And then of course
you know Peyton can be like, well, Eli, I got.
Speaker 1 (02:36:39):
You you know quite a bit. There's no doubt, but
doubt now that.
Speaker 4 (02:36:43):
Was the thing, Like, I know they can say what
they want, but the look that Eli had on his
face when they knew that Peyton was gonna win number
two being the younger sibling and you know in a family,
I know that feeling like where it's just like, dude,
you've had everything in life, like like.
Speaker 5 (02:36:58):
This was the one thing I had about right, Like
that's he's had to go get one with me. Like
come on, man, Yeah, that h some great, great banter.
I would imagine holidays when they're competing there pretty fun, man.
Speaker 1 (02:37:11):
Oh yeah. And the and the talking is something that
you know, the epic chi involved well boys, just so
you know, you wouldn't be here if it wouldn't for
me and the funniest one.
Speaker 5 (02:37:22):
The guy who can get more digs in on all
of them because he's got all the stuff on him
is Cooper. And then now they're waiting for Arch, which
we'll talk about this week. Now, who's he We're going
to find out pretty quickly in the Horseshoe.
Speaker 4 (02:37:32):
He gets a really good test to be able to
find that out on Saturday, so we'll continue to talk
to that. Also, you know, the Texans make their roster
cuts today. That's going to be Dana Brown tomorrow too
for his weekly Wednesday visits. So we've got all of
that to look forward to. But he's Sean Triple, Emmanuel Elmore,
Dan Matthews, the Never Wrong Matt Thomas for the Matt
(02:37:55):
Thomas Show, with Ross coming up right here.
