he gotta be racist.
Speaker 7 (01:10):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
You gotta be racist, by bro, that's how we're starting. Yeah,
gotta be We're not even a minute three, and you're
already labeled.
Speaker 5 (01:17):
We already got you labeled, got to be racist, damn.
And I got the audio drop at six o two.
You know, my peeps love this show, don't you. Oh yeah,
I suld think we're stupid. Yeah they should, but they
tell you, you know, hey, just toning it down. Homes,
You rolled up the Dasko.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
You can't be talking well, you can't be talking like
that man's hometown.
Speaker 5 (01:35):
Man, No, that's at the nord Stroms. Man, what's the
corner of what the magnet.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
Highway fifteen and VI sixty three and via ritual that's
what it is. Yeah, yeah, yeah, sels You don't tell
him we got to nord Stroms. Man, at least tell
him it's Nordstrom's rack. Try to lower it a little bit.
At least telling me this discounts your homes. It's north
Strom's rack.
Speaker 5 (01:57):
We don't have the full Nordies, hey, man, we don't
just have Ross dress for less here.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
Man except Selzi, did does he know anything about Did
you tell him about the chess king Holmes? Yeah, matter
of fact I did. Oh my god, Ringo shot there
two holves. Yeah they do. Man, where we got our flannels?
My boys, it's not serious. Those are I could say, dude,
you you the only times I wore a flannel shirt
(02:22):
the high school in the like at this time of year,
you know, California gets down to sixty one or fifty eight,
were like, yeah, hey, it's a bit nippy in the city.
That was the look. Thermal like the Handley three button
thermal or full thermal flannel over where you'd throw a
flannel over it and then you roll up the flannel
sleeves part way, but the thermal would be right, oh yeah.
(02:44):
And to be untucked, obviously you'd have you'd have like
five oh one blue jeans on and like back then
we had like you know, you had like the Wallabies
or the or Black Chuck Taylor's, but we Converse all
stars were big like the Doctor Jay shoes, right, and
so that was the look. Yeah you got kid. It
was like if you didn't have a flannel shirt, you weren't.
Number one, get your ass out of ESCO.
Speaker 8 (03:04):
Man.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
Number two is don't go roll up at Orange Glyn
High School, you know the Beverly Hills. They may had
you know, Gucci Ursus of that, and then Louis Vuitton.
We we're rolling up in a fresh white T shirt
or or a thermal and your you had to have
your you had to have your your flannel, had a
baseball cap. And no, there was no flat brim back
(03:26):
in that day. It was all it was curved, curved. Yeah,
and did you have it like a v where like
we're it's so curved it's not doing anything, but it's
like a beak on your head.
Speaker 7 (03:36):
Beat.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
I don't like the overcurve. It's a tweener, you know,
it's got to be tweener. So that's how. But there
wasn't a lot of flat I mean when you were
in high school, flat brims were big.
Speaker 5 (03:44):
Right, Yeah, that's when I kind of started to roll,
right they almost knew. Eric came out with those flat
bill hats and they took and then they almost got
so flat that they curved up. Well then, do you
remember Jesse James, the biker. Yeah, well he had was
a monster rod, married to the tattoo artists. Yeah, it
was Monster Garage was his show, and he wore the
(04:05):
flat bills.
Speaker 2 (04:06):
It started to curve up and those kind of so
it became a big deal. Oh yeah, so yeah, but
that was so that was a look man, wherever you
could find it. You know that three for the price
of one before school started. Yeah, they get the same flannel,
but three different colors. Yeah oh yeah, yeah yeah. This
time of your flannels are huge. And then sometimes got
tow I you just wear the three button Hendley flannel,
(04:28):
which is jeans.
Speaker 5 (04:28):
And that was it for my dad. It didn't matter
what time of the year. That dude wore a flannel
all the time. Oh yeah, well that that's like a
construction Yeah.
Speaker 2 (04:35):
And then you're sitting there saying, well, you wore it
an Arizona dad, when when it's in the desert, when
it's cold four thirty five in the morning. Yeah, But
when it's new and what it's new, and it got
the ninety yeah and your work boots, you know, and
it's like, well, at that point, those guys don't even
think about that. Yeah, like ninety they'll come more on you.
And then they were working.
Speaker 5 (04:56):
Flannel with a pocket a white pocket tea and during
the day he'd probably take it off and then throw
it right back on.
Speaker 2 (05:02):
The way home. Oh, it's it's crazy. And like I said,
they get so into their mode. You're like and they're
not they're not bat and I so much because respect
by Pops. And then my dad was working for the
city and they're preparing this the pipes in the uh
now my dad and I brag on him live. My
pops was well put it this way. When my freshman year,
(05:23):
when I go to USC they called him King Richard.
You know my dad, they called him King Richard. And
when he come to the games, my dad could have
handled most of my teammates. Yeah, at that point in time,
my dad's like when I'm playing up, my dad's in
his forties right when I first started there. So my
dad was jacked. But we uh, there's a picture of him.
I go back and think when my buddies just say it,
(05:46):
they go, well, we're not going to mix with Shryl,
which my mom name was Shirley because King Richard. Man,
I ain't gonna think about and I have mama because
King wrestle. You probably don't want to do that. Yeah,
but quiet oh yeah, at two sixty five and you know,
Airborne tatted on the floor arm with his parachute and
the whole thing. And there's a picture of my dad
one I got to get it for a show to
you he's down somebody taking the picture because he ended
(06:08):
up in the newspaper because they were repairing all kinds
of crazy piping. My dad end up dying from asbestos anyway.
But he was down in there and it was like
it shows there's about seven or eight workers standing around
deep down in there, and my dad's got a big
old hammer, dude, and handled it by himself. And he's
in a T shirt. We got a picture because we
showed when they went through the collage when he passed away,
(06:29):
and you know, he's down there and holding the hammer,
and he's got like a T shirt on that's like
a vintage T shirt you'd bear now, but it was
not Schmdiam but my dad. You know, that's a double
extra large weight to have him jacked. And he looked
down there, and I looked down him, blue jeans work.
And when I saw the picture, it's like, oh, man's impressed.
That's not a bad ass. I wasn't said what I
(06:52):
was going to have with my dad. I mean, he
was a bad accident. But but what he had the
T shirt on. You know, it wasn't because he was
a conservative guy, but man, he had that and it
was you know, that formed. It was just like, yeah,
every part of it. I'm like, I think I'm probably
never going to talk back again. I looked back. I said, man,
that's a badass photo. So Pops was a grown ass man. Yeah,
and everybody's the funny party picker. Everybody stayed around. My
(07:13):
dad's handling the jackhammer.
Speaker 8 (07:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
What was like, I don't know if it's a ninety
pounds or whatever, like it was man truth picker. Oh yeah, yeah,
four arms looked like pop. I'm like, wait till your
dad gets on. No, Mom, I'm just really sorry. Good. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (07:26):
I remember being a kid and my dad I think
was maybe five ten, five eleven because my parents were short.
Speaker 2 (07:32):
I had a sister. You got a sister and somebody
else who's tall, and all.
Speaker 5 (07:35):
My sisters were five ten one. Tricia's five ten. I
think Sarah was five eleven. My uncles were tall, but
my mom and dad I think it was five ten
and my mom was five four.
Speaker 2 (07:44):
Your milkman, I was about six threes, had to be
man postman. What are you doing?
Speaker 9 (07:52):
So?
Speaker 2 (07:52):
I remember being like, Sean, you can't, yes, I can here.
Reverend is hell, this is what we do.
Speaker 5 (07:57):
I just remember being a kid, and like, I remember
my dad being a big, strong guy. I remember having
uh specifically, what I remember is like his forearms and
his biceps were big, right, all that construction stuff.
Speaker 7 (08:15):
Man.
Speaker 5 (08:15):
And so when we uh, when him and my mom died,
we cleared out their house and I found a big
container of photos and I found a photo of it
was me, my two sisters, and my dad at Splashtown,
the water park up on the north side, and we
were in like the I don't remember where it was,
the leaky pipes, that's what it was. That's the little
kids section, right, And uh, my god, my dad was jacked,
(08:37):
I know.
Speaker 2 (08:37):
And you don't appreciate what every day because all your buddies, right, hey,
do you know your old man jack?
Speaker 5 (08:42):
My dad was pretty damn big, my god. But he
didn't work out just from working.
Speaker 2 (08:48):
That's it's like anything when you when some of those
guys out there and the farms were bailing, hey, and
not lifting a weight that's plenty of weight.
Speaker 5 (08:53):
You know, like like I mean, you get like the
old man's strength.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
That was well I'm at it now. Yeah my dad
had it now, yeah, yeah, the old man strike. But
it's true and all that and it's the it's the
you know, all the hands beat up and all that
because and then you say, are you gonna wear gloves?
Put my dad wear gloves? Well, what are you doing?
What you can get those gloves on? You know, that's
it is. That's just the old school way. But it
(09:18):
is my dad. Your buddies used to always say the
same thing to you, and you don't realize until you
kind of step away from your out of the house
and you go back and say, well, man, still what
my ask if you wanted to And my buddies were right,
because but you just it's like anything you live near
the beach, take the beach for granted, you live at
home and your pops in, your mom and pops and
all that, and you think I can handle my dad
(09:38):
the way my dad said, because any time you're ready, man,
any time you're ready to think, you're ready to out
my dad hand me.
Speaker 5 (09:44):
The summer of twenty eleven, my first summer back home
from Soul Ross. I had had a really good season
at Soul Ross playing. My mom went to Connecticut for
two months to visit her family, so it was just
me and my dad and one of my teammates, Eric
Martinez lived with us during the summer because he was
helping me coach over at the band needs and me
and Eric got tanked one night in the in the
living room. My dad came home on a Wednesday playing poker.
(10:06):
There were cans everywhere, and he was like, you guys
need to clean up. This isn't an F and frat house.
Of course, I was little tips and well, I was hammered,
and me and my dad were of course I was
a little bit taller, obviously, but we were nose to nose,
and I was fully prepared to get my ass whooped
at that point.
Speaker 2 (10:21):
I was twenty one at the time.
Speaker 5 (10:23):
I was fully prepared, and I remember waking up the
next morning, I'm thinking, yeah, we're not gonna do that again.
I think my dad was sixty five at the time, maybe, yes,
probably sixty five, and I thought he was gonna whop
my ass. I was a twenty one year old kid
in good shape, not like I am now, but like
in baseball player shape. Yeah, And I was like, in
my mind, I was invincible, but I knew. I knew
that if he got ahold of me, he was gonna
(10:44):
be It was like you and I were besties because
the stories are.
Speaker 2 (10:48):
Yeah, I was just the backgrounds in construction. Yeah, I
finally when my dad had was had cancer and was
trying and he was still mobile stuff, but you know,
it was it was we're a family that laughs, tries
to self deprecating for humor, right, But I put my
arm around him after all the years, and he's he's
sixty seven at the time. I finally went up to
(11:10):
my said, Pops, all those years you asked me, boy,
you think you can get me? I said, I think
I might be able to finally get you. He said,
are you sure he's you know he's going through chemo, right,
I said, he laughed, and I said, well maybe not, Pops.
I'm not going to challenge it. That story you told.
I got my best friend Chris Cisco, and we're living
in Arizona at the time, and I moved to California
because my dad moved for work. The mean streets Esco.
(11:33):
So he comes and visits me. We were all so
we grew up together, right. He comes and visits me
like he's a at that time, eighth for freshman in
high school, eighth grade, and were somewhere around there. Freshman
we're well, hell, we were driving, so sophomore year, you'd
be like a year and a half. He comes visit. My
mom is with her sisters and they're on a their
weekend away. So it's me and my pops and my
(11:55):
brother and sister. Were got so I'm living there, me
and my younger brother. So Chris comes in town and
my dad's one of those guys. My mom was by
the phone. Were in high school, she'd answered, and I
answer the phone. If you're gonna be la, you call us.
My dad was the one who you handled this, and
so I'm thinking I could pull this off. My dad
he sleeps heavy. So we come home. He comes with me,
my buddy Chris, and we weren't drinking, but we went
out on a Friday night and curfews like midnight, rolling
(12:17):
at like one p thirty, thinking my dad's a sleep
since ten o'clock sneap. My mom would know, Oh, sneaking
the back door, dude, I'm telling you. We sneak in
and all of a sudden open it up and I'm looking.
I look down the hallway and I'm dead. So my
dad's in a pair of blue jeans, jacked, standing in
the hallway without a shirt on. He goes where you've been.
So we went through the conversation. My buddy Chris Cisco,
(12:38):
he called my dad big rich. He called him that
since he was seven. Kind of got behind me and goes,
oh oh hell, and he my dad does not go off.
My dad was not a cusser. You Jay, was a
message of just because your mom's not here. He was worried,
but he didn't want to let you know that. And dude,
he dressed this down for that distance. He said, get
your ass and blah blah blah blah. Well he went
(12:58):
to bed. Christ he sleptstare at the ceiling the whole
night because he loved my dad like a father. He
it was that respectful fear. Yeah, my dad was. He
stayed the whole way like he was waiting on It's
like ready to draw a six gun, right, I mean
a six year And we went to bed, woke up
the next day. My pops is making breakfast. We go
out like at all yeah, and Chris said, what are
we going to do? I said, all right. My dad
(13:18):
got over so quickly, but he said a loud message
if you're gonna be late, call and if not, best
better idea, don't just call, don't be late, and that's
the dead seals my mom. And he didn't tell my mother.
He never did. And I didn't tell my mother because
he was protecting us. But dude, we look down the
whole way and my buddy goes, oh, big riches, and
I said, I said yeah. I said, well you rob Peter,
(13:40):
you got pay Paul bro And we slept with what
I opened all night, my pops. But he was just
and he smiled the next morning but didn't say it work. Yeah,
but message sent oh yeah, messages or nobody. Yes it was, Yes,
it was. That's some good stuff, man. Alight, let's get
into some football. What a weekend we got to have.
Speaker 5 (13:57):
The college football playoffs start tonight, Notre Dame in Indiana,
Texans chiefs. Let's start to dig into some football here
on the Sewan Salisbury Show.
Speaker 2 (14:06):
Hey, this holiday, give them what they really want. Give
holiday scratch tickets from the Texas Lottery. They're the perfect
gift and you could be giving folla la la la
la la la la lots of cash. Right, So give
holiday scratch tickets from the Texas Lottery and you could
make holiday very merry. It's a good gift to give, right,
there's some coin, there's a chance of some big cash
(14:27):
and a happy feeling. On the Texas Lottery. It's the
perfect gift. Give those holiday scratch tickets from the Texas
Lottery and make their holiday very special. That's the Texas Lottery.
Speaker 3 (14:38):
Back to the Sewan Salisbury Show on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 10 (14:44):
Your astros, your rouckets, your voice.
Speaker 5 (14:50):
All right, what are you excited for the most this weekend?
You excited for the college football playoffs, a couple of
Saturday games in the NFL, and of course the action
on Sunday Texans Chiefs tomorrow. I know you, it's got
to be the college FOOTBA playoffs.
Speaker 2 (15:04):
Oh that's first. Yeah. I mean you look at the
sports lineup tomorrow that it's epic. I mean, I'm talking
about the football college and like the staggered times of
NFL College, NFL College NFL, we got a hell of
a Saturday, one of the best Saturdays in football of
the year because we're getting these NFL games that matter.
MVP races are on College football Playoff. I know it
(15:26):
kicks off tonight, but I wouldn't turn that TV off tonight.
I know I think we're gonna have a hell of
a game. But tomorrow that TV's they're on all day,
you're having a you ain't getting up from your seat
other than to go grab yourself another cold beer and
some vitals, because that's going to be a great Saturday
of sports. I mean, you know what. Of course, for me,
(15:46):
it's the college the college football playoff more than a
regular season game. But I don't want to feel anti
climactic about the Texans either. Yeah, now that they've clinched
the vision, I know they got three games left and
I want to see where it goes and where they
end up. But it's almost like get the playoffs here
for the NFL, right because now if they were still
in limbo where they lost last week and they're battling
(16:09):
and there's compared that's that. That's the I like the
chaos on the field, you know, like the with the
college football player. For the NFL, I wanted to be
pressure filled the last week of the season. Now, I
know as a player it is. As a mostly as
a fan, we're like, you know, get it sewn up
early so we don't have to stress over and so
they're in that you know, you're in. Yeah, but you
don't want to play like you're in Does that make sense?
And then but the single elimination stuff of the college
(16:31):
football player, that's got to be for me first and foremost.
If you're a football fan, a college football fan, and
you know what, Hell, we got a hell of a
high school weekend for the state championships. Man, you got
that incredible so and you also have it's a great
weekend of sport just sports in general, right Tyson Tyson
Fury is boxing in a big matchup tomorrow night. Yeah,
it's a hell it is. It's into Christmas and you
(16:54):
don't have to wait long for more games because Christmas
Day with the two NFL games, Yeah, we got to
This is a fun week of sports. And in college
hoops is in full tournament swing, you know with the
fun events Christmas tournaments and I freaking love it. But
the college playoff and I'm like I said, I'm not.
You know, normally, if you go out on Friday night,
Friday night stays home, then I Notre Dame in Indiana
not missing it, because when are you going to get
(17:16):
Notre Dame the Fighting Iris playing in Indiana? Now I
can guarantee you over the years, you know, it's been
a better rival. I mean when I say rival, who's
been more competitive Notre Dame basketball in Indiana basketball. And
that's when you say, oh, it's a Saturday in South Bend. Okay, cool,
they're player or in you know, in the Assembly Hall
in Indiana. But we got a football game. That is,
when's the last time Indiana and Notre Dame together were
(17:38):
like in this situation? Well, I probably never in your lifetime.
When Pennix was there, they could, they were decent, but
they weren't in this position. So you think about this,
Notre Dames and both of them are top twelve teams
in the country with a chance to go win a
national championship. Obviously, most people are going to pick Notre Dame.
But I got signettil Is. I guarantee his practice all
(18:00):
week is telling them they're better than Notre Dame. You
know how he is. He's confident. So I can't wait
to see it. And I think I think Notre Dame's
gonna show I mean, Indiana will show up. Notre Dame
obviously the favorite, but I can assure you they're not
looking at Indiana football like it's a bye week like
it used to be. This is a hell of fied
team right now. I like it.
Speaker 5 (18:17):
The last time Notre Dame in Indiana played nineteen ninety one.
Speaker 2 (18:22):
Now think about that for a second. Notre Dame one
forty nine to twenty se So think about that South
Bend to Bloomington eight far right, and that just goes
to show you the why would we schedule them in
the state. But now we get this, I'll be honest,
we need to see more of it. I'm big with
these kind of and turn it into a rock because
Notre Dame in Indiana bad football. That's not a rivalry.
(18:45):
But hopefully Indiana can keep winning and turn it in
and have that game just like you should have Texas
Texas Tech. Can you imagine not having Alabama play Auburn, No,
because they're if they were in different conferences. Can you
imagine Clemson and South Carolina not playing or Southern calin
UCLA not playing? No, of course you can't, So why
not now that you've got a program. Hell, if I'm Indiana,
you're begging to put Notre Dame on a schedule. You're
(19:05):
asking for it every year so you can test them
against the team and you know what, there may be
somebody in that state now who says, you know what,
I want to go to Indiana instead of Notre Dame.
And that was only when basketball was being played back
in the day. Now Indiana's jumping in there and grabbing recruits.
I'm sure and Signetic can recruit. So this is not
your typical December before New Year's Day Bowl game where
(19:27):
it's like, okay, getting young players some work. This is
nut cutting time. They're about three hours away, and yeah,
it's like it'd be like going, you get yourself from
here to a little north of Corsica or south of
course of Canna, you know, an hour and three hour
drive and that's and it's pop on that interstate. And
I assure you ain't gonna be as crowded as this
(19:48):
interstate is here. So you get there a little quicker,
but it's going to be awesome too. Underrated guy. Fi've
worked in Bloomington, done games there. It's a great underrated
college town. And South Bend, well, it may not be
the the what are you doing in South Bend? Well,
the on campus parties and stuff in South Bend they
don't get cheated either, but it is two really good
(20:08):
college towns, but historic. Notre Dame is. Like I've always said,
you've got to go watch a game there. If you
never have treat yourself, it's worth it.
Speaker 5 (20:16):
It's going to be twenty nine degrees a kickoff with
wing us up to twenty five hours an hour.
Speaker 2 (20:20):
The only thing missing is is snow. I'd love to.
I love it to snow because that would be fitting
for a game this late in the season. It's in
South Bend and it'll be That's a place is going
to be packed that It's gonna be a blast. I
can't wait to see it. I'm here for you to
see college football for me this weekend. You think Lou
Holtz is going to be there, I don't know if
he'll be. Like that's a good question in truth, because
(20:42):
he loves Notre Dame about as much as he loves life, right,
I get it. But I can promise you this, he'll
be tuned in. Yeah, he ain't missing a minute of it. No,
there's no way that dude loves his fighting Irish. Now
do you think Antoine Randall l will be there for Indiana? Well,
he's got to. He's coaching. Uh, he's coach isn't he coaching?
Is he coaching the chi in Detroit? Whe's Randall ell out? Yeah,
he's he's a wide receiver coach. Is at Pittsburgh? Where
(21:05):
is he in Pittsburgh? I know he's coaching. He's coaching
the Whiteouts on some team. That's that's Uh, it's no,
he's actually for Detroit. Yeah, there you go. He's coaching
the Whiteouts and Detroit and every receiver cruse, pretty receiving
crew is pretty good. So oh he may he's not
gonna be there, but he'll be tuned into the watch
this because really one of the last times that they
were like, oh my gosh, wow was him when he
(21:27):
was playing receiver and quarterback and doing it all. So
we're in for a fun night and a great weekend
of sports. And obviously with these Texans, which we'll talk
about a lot today, they have got if you want
to keep the energy going, and Brian in truth, don't
they need to prove to themselves that they can play
four quarters and get offensive defense at the same time.
Isn't this a testing Even if you said we don't
have anything else the game the rest of the year,
(21:47):
I do believe there's some pride in how do we
feel about our team, Because if you can look me
in the face and tell me you've seen their best
offensive game and defensive game together this year against a
good team, then you're lying to me. So we need
to see that. And these two tests next two weeks,
both of them not only capable, but could very easily
be sitting there in February and playing with the you know,
(22:07):
the Chiefs and Ravens. So I think this is a
this is something you treat it like. You treat it
like its single elimination, because you need to prove, forget us,
you need to prove to yourself you got that you
can running with the big boys in a dominant fashion.
Now they did it against Buffalo, but even then they
let Buffalo hang around. And you know, so to me,
this is a great opportunity to find out who you
(22:29):
are late in the season.
Speaker 5 (22:30):
Yeah, let's talk about the Texans and their offense. What
adjustments need to be made against the Kansas City Chiefs.
We'll talk about it next right here on Sports Talks
seven ninety. We're talking about all this football in a
massive weekend in sports in general, so much to watch,
so much to do when it comes to your watch parties,
(22:51):
and what you first and foremost need to do is
add the Daisy Dip by Daisy Sour Cream. Daisy Sour
Cream launched French onion and Ranch sour cream dips. I
love these dips and the new dips from Daisy Sour
Cream are a game changer. They taste just as good
if they were homemade, and of course they're made with
Daisy Sour Cream, real herbs and spices. And the new
dips from Daisy Sara Cream are made with ingredients you
can find in your kitchen. Nothing more so when you're
(23:12):
playing in your watch party for this weekend full slate
of college football and NFL games tomorrow, So head over
to your local grocery store, pick up a couple of
these new French, onion and ranch dips from Daisy Sour Cream.
Speaker 2 (23:26):
Pair them with your.
Speaker 5 (23:27):
Favorite chips, wings, vegetables and other foods. Your guests are
gonna love them, and of course you will too. Save
some for your holiday party with Christmas next week right
there at your local grocery store. They are phenomenal. It's
the Daisy Dip from Daisy Sour Cream. The Seawan Salisbury
Show continues.
Speaker 2 (23:47):
Afil you dogs. Yeah, you guys want to talk about
good talk?
Speaker 5 (23:52):
Yeah, all right, let's uh. Chris Jones obviously one of
the best tackles defensive tackles for uh uh. He plays
for the Chiefs. He's gonna try to recavoc on this offensive.
He's going to wreck the game tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (24:06):
There's some he might he might man control him. You.
You do a good job of controlling their defense, but
they fly around and they're good. Both these defenses the
most impressive parts of their team. Both are on it.
That that's it's just simple. Both take the under the
most impressive parts. Well, the way the offenses have played,
I would think under as well.
Speaker 5 (24:27):
And Patrick Mahomes is gonna play of course, Patty this dude,
he is so dramatic with his damn injuries.
Speaker 2 (24:34):
But then you come back and say, what a warrior?
What a badass? Yeah, guy's a warrior. Who's more of
a hero? Oh he's a warrior. Yeah not a hero yet. Okay,
hero when you win a Super Bowl to get on Sunday,
But during the season, when you're getting up and playing
or a warrior, Yeah, you're just you're just a grinder.
Speaker 8 (24:49):
Man.
Speaker 2 (24:49):
What a warrior.
Speaker 5 (24:50):
Yeah, because we leave heroes for Brittany Grinder. Well yeah,
BG yeah vg BG. So Patrick Mahomes will play for
the Chiefs. There was, you know, some concern with his ankle,
but uh, Andy Reid excuse me, a couple of days
ago so that he was a full participant in a
uh most likely was going to play with an Adam
schefter yesterday tweeting out that he will be active and
(25:13):
ready to go on Saturday. So I asked you, Sean
for the offense for the Texans coming off of the
win against Miami. The offense still we haven't seen it
at all this year. Click on all cylinders. What's gotta
happen for that to happen?
Speaker 2 (25:30):
Well, I think that you have to Obviously, you can't
betray running the football, you know, and you cannot even
when you they'll get stopped, because you'll get embarrassed on
a few downs. Dude, it just happens. Yeah, you'll give that.
That's the way when you're playing and you get embarrassed
on a few downs. I would fully expect that they'll
(25:52):
come out throwing early if you're the if you're the Texans,
I would I would not I would not say back
and wait for them to Okay, let's attack later, get
after it, spread them out, and when you do that,
what will happen is the ability to run inside makes
a little difference. And you're not gonna you want to
challenge them in there because play action will come in
(26:12):
big right. But to me, it is imperative that they
attack the edges and get the ball out quickly. I'm
talking about on the screen game. Let guys do work
with the ball in their hand, can't hold it long,
and Stroud's going to have to have a really good
game because this will be as adept to defense as
they play. There may be somebody statistically better, but very
few or smarter when it comes to game plan calling,
(26:33):
like Spagnola, So I would think that they To me,
if I was calling this game plan, i'd say throw
to set up the run, as opposed to set up
to throw because you can't be on and I trust
that Stroud can get it out. So if you can
give me four or five yards on the perimeter and
then get the second five, then we got a lot
of things that are at our disposal. But if you're
Bobby Slok, you can't play into the hands of run, run, throw,
(26:54):
let's get the game over early type of thing. I
think you have to attack and play as if as
if your biggest strength is pushing the football and throwing it.
Even though Mixing's had a really good year, I would
I would make sure and I would use the passing
game as an extension of the run.
Speaker 5 (27:08):
The Kansas City Chiefs their defense third in the league,
allowing just ninety two yards per game on the ground.
Speaker 2 (27:16):
How about that, d Maybe if they find a way
to get to one hundred yards rushing in this game,
that's or in the nineties. I'll take that as a
win as long as the passing games efficient. If you
rush for you know, ninety yards on twenty five carries,
but you're in third and seven all the time, and
the run was just to run to set up something else,
(27:37):
could be a long day. But I think that their
ability to throw the ball, and they do have weapons.
The question is how vertical are you going to get
and how horizontal you're gonna play early, because you need
to get the ball to make the Chris joneses chase
the edge and go get it right. Yeah, but you're
going to have your hands full and pass protections on
how you're gonna slideline and what you're gonna do to
find the big fel He's easy to find, he's not
(27:57):
easy to block. And if you want tests in the interior,
there's no bigger tests they faced all year. I'm talking
about as a player than this guy. This is this
is a different version of an Aaron Donald and you
know he really is that They can wreck it literally
and normally we always talk about guys wrecking games that
are on the perimeter, right, Yeah, Chris Jones can wrecord
game inside. That's just because he's not just a two
(28:19):
gapping run guy. He's a big, huge body. Vince wil
Fork is just clogging up a hole and he and
he's for a guy, that big dude. What that first
move and step? He's got some And I was talking
to an offensive UH lineman in Kansas City this past
week earlier this week and was talking about Chris Jones
(28:40):
and he's on ir right, but talking about Chris Jones
and how just how I mean he said, walk off
college and go there and have to block Chris Jones.
He said, it's this is a different Uh, We're dealing
with different dudes.
Speaker 8 (28:51):
Different dude.
Speaker 2 (28:51):
Oh, yeah, and that's teammates saying so. And the one
thing about their offensive line, they get a great deal
of that work and practice and the physical side of it,
so they they are also prepared for One of the
Kansas City's great strengths is the way they manipulate that.
They do a good job of making sure their quarterbacks
normally protected right because and you saw in the Super
Bowl when it wasn't what happened. So Andy does a
(29:12):
great job of that. And he used the offensive line
the team's strength on defense, like what's the strength your
edge rushing right and secondary? So what's he going to do?
He's gonna do everything he can to neutralize your edge
rushing by they're one of the great screen teams in
so you almost want to be honest with you, milk
it in a different way. How you attack it like
Andy does is kind of mirror the game plan of
(29:34):
because you don't want to hold the ball along if
you're Mahomes in this game with those age rushers, it's
just different because the interior can take the edge. Take
the edge of the Texans and apply it to the
interior of the Chiefs. You'd average about sixty yards a
game against the Chiefs if that was the case. So
those are the strength of both defenses, and that's the
strength of this game. And you get to twenty four points,
(29:56):
so you may have yourself a victory in this one.
Speaker 5 (29:57):
And when it comes to passing yards allowed, the Kansas
City Chiefs middle of the road, about fifteenth in the league.
Two hundred fifteen yards per game.
Speaker 2 (30:05):
Which is you feel like you're not talking about a
like like you're not talking about a Kansas City team, right,
I mean on the offensive side average, would you say
to how much are the averaging? No, this is their defense. Okay, yeah,
two hundred fifteen is nothing. What's their offense averaging? It
can't be much more throwing it passing yards per game,
Let's check it out. The Chiefs two hundred and twenty four. Yeah,
(30:27):
that's see what I'm saying. Yeah, that's not I mean,
when you think about it, you say, oh, that's a
team that's in the middle of the pack. They're not
very good to twenty four. What do you think the
Texans are lower than that? To twelve? Yeah, which is
neither team going into the scene. He said, that's how
they're going to live. Throwing the football at two twelve
and two twenty four, whatever it is, but two hundred
and fifteen yards a game in less than one hundred
yards rushing a game that puts you near the top
(30:47):
of the list when you talk about both categories for.
Speaker 5 (30:49):
The for the Chiefs, Kansas City Chiefs rush for one
hundred and twelve yards per game. The Texans right there
at one hundred and eleven.
Speaker 2 (30:55):
So rushing attacks, there's some mirror images and the pressures
that you'll get from Kansas, I mean from the Texans.
Both defenses control the game with both quarterbacks potential to
go out there and throw a party on you if
you're not careful.
Speaker 5 (31:07):
Yeap, How did the Texans get to Patrick Mahomes and
how will that ankle injury mobilize Patrick Mahome? Let's talk
about a next in spore Stock seven.
Speaker 2 (31:16):

This Sean Salisbury show continues to continue.
Speaker 2 (32:32):
He plays a piano, he sings, he's an actor, and
he is the Tony Bennett No, he's a younger. He's
probably now he's got to be in his full fifties maybe,
But uh, he's the guy who's everybody talks about him
because he does. He's like a Frank Sinatra, a cover guy.
(32:53):
That's the voice, but it's his music. And that's who
I was thinking, Not Andy Willams, Andy wims Older school.
I mean, he's Frank Sinatra's Eira, But that was Sinatra
who's got that distinctive voice. But the other guy sounds
just like him. Richard Shelton, No, not Blake Shelton either.
Somebody who's listening knows what I'm talking about. He was
in a movie with sig Horney Weaver. He was like
(33:15):
a psycho. He's been a handful of what sigh, sig
Horney Sigourney Weaver Weaver. Yeah, she was a chick. She
was in Aliens. Of course you never saw that. You
don't know what Gorney Weaver is. So you're a joke,
all right, So what movie? What movie that do you
think that they were in together? Start reading her movies.
(33:36):
I'll say you let me find him. Did you call
her sig Horny? That's what that's what name was. That's
kind of how I said it to. Hey, sig Horny Weaver,
Alien Resurrection, Alien Avatar, Gorillas in the miss seeing them all. Mmmm,
it's a thriller, thriller.
Speaker 5 (34:00):
Gosh, dang it, dude, sig Horny Weaver. You just put
her IMDb up there looking up Weaver movie.
Speaker 2 (34:07):
This is ridiculous that I can't think of the guy's name,
and it's it's not that big a deal, but it's
gonna bep on.
Speaker 8 (34:11):
We just had to call her.
Speaker 2 (34:12):
His name was Michael, Is it Harry? It's exactly what
I cann't get his last name, but yeah, Harry. No,
it's not Harry Hatches, not Harry Belafani, that's it. It's
Harry Kane. No, Harry Styles, No, Harry Connick Jr. No, Yes, yes, Yes,
that's it.
Speaker 11 (34:31):
Harry.
Speaker 12 (34:32):
I know.
Speaker 2 (34:32):
That's that's why I said. It's not like me that normally.
I actually do know that he does Frank Sinatra. That's
what I would, and that's why it sounded like Harry
Connick Jr. Doing Frank Sinata, But it was actually Frank
Sinatra doing Frank Sinatra. And what movie was Sigourney Weaver?
Speaker 6 (34:45):
Was he?
Speaker 2 (34:45):
And that's why he called his name out. What is
Harry connic Let me find it. Harry Connick Junior inig
hornyig Horny Weaver, Horny Weaver movie. Don't spell it like
sig Horny Copycat. There you go. He was a three.
He was a like a serial killer guy in the copycat.
Good movie underrated. You've never seen it because you don't
(35:06):
even know who sig Horney is. Harry Connick Jr. How
how dare me? Yeah? That's pretty pretty, but he sounds
have you've ever He sounds a lot like Sinatra, So
that's what I'm saying. He's a coroner. See what I'm saying?
Speaker 6 (35:18):
Doc?
Speaker 2 (35:19):
Uh Yeah, now you know, so you really don't know
who Sighrney is. Do you know? Have you ever seen Aliens? Yeah? No,
you haven't.
Speaker 7 (35:28):
I have.
Speaker 2 (35:28):
She's like a lead I was like eight years old
when I watched it and it was terrifying. So you
haven't seen it since? No, you know who's the lead
actress in any you go? Exactly? There you go. Sig
Horney was in wasn't she in the Ghostbusters as well?
It's yeah it's Sigourney Oh no kidding, thanks Captain obvious.
(35:53):
I appreciate it. Yeah, she was born.
Speaker 5 (35:57):
Uh heaven, he's in Alexandra Weaver, otherwise known as Sigourney.
Speaker 2 (36:04):
Yeah, sig Horny exactly. So how did I leave Harry
Connick Junior on the table? Thanks to Mike, Thanks Mike
for con I told you that's not all of our
listeners knows who the crooner is.
Speaker 5 (36:17):
It's Frank Sinatra's sound like you ye hey? Also yeah,
shout out to Sam Houston. They got a bowl win
last night. They took down Georgia Southern the RNL Carrier's
Bowl New Orleans.
Speaker 13 (36:28):
Love it.
Speaker 2 (36:29):
Phil Ago was in the house. Yes he was. He
wasn't coaching, but he was there. He's there. I can't
wait for my guy to get rolling this next year.
Speaker 7 (36:36):
He've go.
Speaker 2 (36:36):
He's back and he loves being in Texas and I'm
glad he's running. Uh Sam Houston State. They'll they'll do
some good stuff and do some damage offensively.
Speaker 7 (36:43):
I like it.
Speaker 2 (36:44):
And what they're in IL is going to look like
I don't know, but I'm sure that they're going to
try to increase it, which would be great. What's that
there's a restaurant there?
Speaker 6 (36:53):
What is it?
Speaker 2 (36:53):
The Potato Hut?
Speaker 5 (36:55):
How what is that restaurant. Some Sam Houston alumni has
got to be listening to us right now. What's the
uh or is it Humphreys. Somebody's got to I've never.
Speaker 2 (37:04):
Been on campus. The bars around campus is a good
college town all the time, but I've never been. I've
never been. How how far inland is it off the freeway?
So if I'm going Old Sam Houston Statue right, Yeah,
you got to exit like two exits down George Dallas
and then go right or left, go right so away
from like the Conrod Woodlands on that side of the east. Yeah, right,
(37:25):
head east, it's about halfway. Not a bad campus. No,
I know a lot of people who went there. I've
never I've never like attended a game there or anything.
But I'm going to now with my guy Phil doing.
Speaker 5 (37:36):
It under underrated man going and watching Sam Houston baseball
take on like U, T or A and M on
a Tuesday night.
Speaker 2 (37:43):
I bet it is. Yeah, it's a it's a pretty
pretty little Dallas Baptist mixed in.
Speaker 5 (37:47):
Yeah, throw them in there too, good program, yep, Yeah,
it's uh. I'm not a big fan of uh. Walker
County put it to eat that way, Yeah, may have
gotten a little trouble there, well a couple of times.
Speaker 2 (37:59):
Maybe you better stay out of Walker County. I haven't
gone back since that way, you're the Rambo of Walker County.
Just all you wanted was a meal? Yeah, but all
you wanted was a meal. God, the movie sucks to
that movie was so good. First Blood iconic. Yeah, I'm
just the first Blood. What does he say when when
the cop strolls up on him and he's walking through
(38:21):
what does he say? What did you just there for
a meal? Or just like I just the movie sucks, dude,
It's just not good. It's not over. It's never over. Yeah,
the movie you better get off slies. Ask dudes. Have
you have you seen First Blood?
Speaker 3 (38:38):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (38:39):
And good movie, a good movie. You know what I like?
Speaker 8 (38:45):
I want you to.
Speaker 2 (38:48):
Sit this one out. Somebody else out there has got
to agree with you. Sit this one out. You can't.
You can't be in this conversation, especially since you don't
know the half the action. Connic Junr was one. Really
sit these nuts right there on your forehead? Really, you
know what?
Speaker 14 (39:05):
Really?
Speaker 3 (39:06):
Sit this?
Speaker 2 (39:07):
Sit this Sylvester Sloan, First Blood out potato shack. Yeah,
thank you, sit that one out there. You go ya.
Sit that one out too, and stay out of what
county is it? Walker? Yeah? Stay out of Walker, Texas? Right,
I have not going back promise you that. Oh man,
you got some issues.
Speaker 5 (39:23):
Yeah, and those Sam Houston State Police off that that
police god, I forgot his name.
Speaker 2 (39:28):
He can suck. No, No he can't. Yeah you can't.
Can you were you were in the wrong? I remember
property year old. It's not legal. Wrong, it's not legal
to drink it.
Speaker 5 (39:40):
Twenty oh man, good times, but not good times in
the vill dog. I'd rather stick to the pine, you
know what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (39:46):
Stick to the pine and don't talk about sick Horny Weaver,
and you sit this one out when it comes to
First Blood Rambo, that movie sucks too.
Speaker 5 (39:52):
All right, let's get to the seven o'clock how y'all
remember h Charles and Meniheugh you play the Texans current chief.
He he had some choice things to say about the Texans.
What did he say? As the matchup is tomorrow, we'll
hear it, discuss it next. Wor's Talk seven.
Speaker 15 (40:08):
Nighty ad E Houston, ADHD two Houston and my heart
radio station the Astros.
Speaker 10 (40:16):
The Rockets Rockets as befall your home for your home teams.
This is Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 1 (40:26):
Salisbury, Oldbury, Houston.
Speaker 4 (40:31):
Okay, let's do this.
Speaker 3 (40:33):
Sewn Salisbury.
Speaker 4 (40:36):
To usc true, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 3 (40:39):
Ryan Lima, go Lobos. This is the Sean Salisbury show.
Speaker 5 (40:47):
No movement on Alex Bregman, by the way, for the Astros,
haven't really uh heard much. Jeff Passon put out an
article yesterday where he talked about the Astros not wanting
to give Bregman more than six years.
Speaker 2 (41:03):
It's old news, Jeff old news. Jeffy, Come on, dog, Jeffy, Yeah,
come on Passy. Yeah, uh we know that old news,
but sure report it again. So I have to wait
and see if anything happens. You think he's gonna what
(41:25):
are they gonna get?
Speaker 8 (41:26):
I don't know, man.
Speaker 2 (41:27):
I think his Marcus not as big as we thought.
Speaker 5 (41:29):
I think originally we thought, okay, twenty six, twenty seven,
maybe twenty eight, right, and then there's some reports coming
out that he wanted over two hundred and the Yankees
were involved, Phillies were involved, like, oh, he'll probably get
that now. Coming back, there was a report that the
Yankees only offered him like one seventy's.
Speaker 2 (41:48):
Thirty million off two hundred, So maybe he won't. I
don't know. I think he'll end up probably getting around
one to seventy one seventy five. Are you tired yet?
Speaker 8 (41:57):
Huh?
Speaker 2 (41:58):
You tired yet?
Speaker 7 (41:59):
Me of this?
Speaker 8 (42:00):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (42:01):
I am.
Speaker 2 (42:03):
It feels like it's been going on for a long time,
but it really hasn't been.
Speaker 5 (42:05):
Because well, I mean, you think about all the ground
swelled at the winter meetings.
Speaker 2 (42:09):
He thought it was going to happen yep, and didn't
I see. And you also thought there was a chance
at the midway point depending on what went on, if
what was going to happen, But the Astros, you know,
being in first place, had to make that run, so
they didn't trade him then, obviously. So there was a
feels like we've been talking about this for eight months
and there was a.
Speaker 5 (42:27):
Team that made us move. Yeah, the Phillies added added
Max Kepler. They signed him yesterday one year, ten million
dollar deal. They got better yep, outfield position for Kepler.
Speaker 2 (42:41):
So so as we sit today with apparently, well there's
no Alex Bregman right now, so you know, Kyle Tucker,
the team is not near as good as they were.
No at least on paper.
Speaker 5 (42:51):
No, man, I am getting bodied on Twitter right now
for my take on that terrible movie called First Blow.
Speaker 2 (42:58):
Oh you should, because you know what you're really like,
I said, you need to take that one off, man,
Just take it off and apologize. And you know or
you know what they say, Hey, delete this, you know
they say delete that tweet, but just delete that, delete it.
Speaker 7 (43:10):
Man.
Speaker 2 (43:10):
The movie sucks. Thank you.
Speaker 5 (43:12):
Felipe says, I agree with be Lima seven ninety. First
Blood sucks. Horrendous movie.
Speaker 2 (43:16):
My man, you and Felipe are wrong. Leipe, what's what
a Philippi?
Speaker 3 (43:21):
No?
Speaker 8 (43:22):
What are you gonna say?
Speaker 2 (43:23):
Philip Phillip on these Yeah? I love Felipe regular for us,
Ben on the on the on the Twitter sphere and
you know our chatter. But yeah, man, like I said,
just keep this moving. You don't you want to stop there?
Don't stop. Pass two hundred dollars and keep moving, dude,
you want no part of the movie. Talk when it
comes to Johnny Rambo, movie sucks.
Speaker 5 (43:43):
Yeah, Hey, Charles and Minnihugh was on a podcast a
couple of days ago and he had some.
Speaker 2 (43:49):
Choice yeah, choice words.
Speaker 8 (43:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (43:51):
He played for the Texans. Let's see one two three,
uh three years four years one two three, and then
he then he went to San Francisco.
Speaker 2 (44:04):
Yep.
Speaker 5 (44:06):
Yeah, he doesn't like the Texans. So this is what
Charles meanty. He's a current chief defensive end for them.
Speaker 2 (44:12):
This is what he said.
Speaker 9 (44:14):
But at the day, I'm gonna make this clown organization.
And oh and I cannot wait to play them, boy,
I literally cannot. Yeah, it's definitely gonna be so five.
Speaker 2 (44:26):
I don't f with the Texans. What happened? Man, Like, well,
what are you upset about? Well he may maybe he
may never know that. Obviously he was upset enough to
and some of these guys weren't even on this team
when he was here, so against the organization that he's
obviously bothered by. Yeah, he was traded from the Texans
(44:46):
the forty nine ers. Yep.
Speaker 5 (44:48):
He was drafted out of the out of University of
Texas fifth rounder in twenty nineteen by the Texans. Well,
maybe he didn't have uh you know, maybe he and
get along with Bill O, Brian and Jackie yesterday.
Speaker 2 (45:01):
Well that was commonplace or some So it's okay if
he if he has those feelings, now we'll go see
and put it on the line for you and see
what happens. So yeah, that stories like that are ramping
around the league because you feel like, well they didn't
like why they you know, you get traded. It's like, well,
there's this feeling of and I don't know how he
was treated behind the scenes right by the coach or
(45:22):
if he got along with the front office. Yeah, he
thought they should have paid him more money. Whatever it is.
Maybe Aaron Wilson will know, Yeah, he kind of.
Speaker 5 (45:30):
This was in an article back in twenty twenty three
when he went to the Kansas City. He spoke about
the trade from the Texans to the forty nine ers
back in twenty twenty one. Is a coach Coasta Wreck?
He's He was a longtime defensive line coach with the
Lions and then he joined San Francisco. He said, coach
(45:54):
Coasta Wreck? Is it coast erec or caserk kocu are
e k? He said, I feel like maybe into the
player I am today. He taught me a lot of
things about how I should look in the outlook of
my rush and definitely gave him my confidence back and
again he shot me straight, that's the biggest thing I
always wanted from a coach be super super honest, and
(46:15):
he was brutally honest end quote.
Speaker 2 (46:17):
Maybe he didn't get that here, sounds like he did not.
That was when Bill O'Brien was ahead of Coast. Players
want to be coached hard. Most do if they want
to get better. Those that don't want to get better
or think they already have all the answers can't handle
coaching because they take it as they take it personal,
as criticism, when the best ones I've ever been around
are okay being coached and they get after it and
(46:38):
they take constructive criticism and at times maybe criticism that
they didn't deserve, but they deal with it and keep moving.
And apparently he didn't feel like he was coached right here.
But I know most want to be coached, and if
they don't want to be they're probably not for me.
You know, I'm staying old for you or for you know,
certain coaches in the league. You know, you've got to
want to continue to excel. And maybe he didn't get that.
(47:00):
That's okay, But it's a new era here, so he
wouldn't be saying that if he was here under the
Demico Ryans regime. I wouldn't think.
Speaker 5 (47:06):
Yeah, and he got a fresh start what was the
forty nine ers was a good player Tooeah, he's a
good player.
Speaker 2 (47:11):
Obviously got over to the Kansas City chief. So yeah,
let's still have a little extra fire this weekend against
the against the Texans. What you gotta do to fire
yourself up? Man?
Speaker 5 (47:22):
If this is like a completely different regime, new coaching staff.
Jackie Easterby is no longer around, neither is Bill O'Brien.
I don't know, man, if you got to do that
to light yourself up to play against the Texans, do
whatever you gotta do. But I would probably say let
it go, man, unless there was something deeper there which
we won't know. Maybe, like you said, maybe Aaron Wilson
(47:45):
will know. We'll have him coming up at eight thirty. Alright,
going to continue to talk Texans throughout this hour, but
let's get to the stake out next right here on
Sports Talk seven ninety.

ninety Home for your Home Teams.
Speaker 2 (49:03):
All right, Sean, what are you hearing out there now?
Speaker 3 (49:06):
The Salisbury's takeout Salsy takeout on the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 5 (49:21):
Sorry for the steak out here on the Sean Salisbury Show,
Sean Salisbury, Brian Limo, Manuel Elmore Rockets beat the Pelicans
Texans Chiefs tomorrow noon kickoff. Colleg football playoffs starts tonight
Notre Dame in Indiana. All right for the steak out.
JJ Watt does a weekly appearance with Pat McAfee. He
(49:44):
had a pretty funny story about what was Jackie used
to be's title here when you like VP.
Speaker 2 (49:54):
Now, I thought it was a player relations or something
for not player relations, but we're making this psisions and
he was.
Speaker 5 (50:01):
The executive vice president of football Operations.
Speaker 2 (50:04):
Oh my.
Speaker 14 (50:07):
All.
Speaker 5 (50:09):
He was also the chaplain there you go at h
That's how you got to start here in Houston.
Speaker 2 (50:14):
And for whatever reason, first president of Football Ops or
vice pro second. Yeah, what a jump.
Speaker 8 (50:20):
This is J. J.
Speaker 2 (50:21):
Watt on the Pat McFee show talking about Jack easter.
Speaker 4 (50:23):
By, Sir b we forget.
Speaker 2 (50:27):
Oh yeah, Jack Eastby was running that thing. He was
doing the red fish bluefish. Yeah, which also am I
playing the day?
Speaker 16 (50:34):
That's what Jesus doing maybe one fish.
Speaker 2 (50:36):
To Speaking of, speaking of team meetings, got up and
spoke in front of the team before a divisional playoff game.
Before the game, Jack east asked him to ask him
to whould you lose to.
Speaker 8 (50:51):
What are you talking about?
Speaker 2 (50:52):
You can just pop up Jack listen.
Speaker 8 (50:54):
Not his fault.
Speaker 16 (50:55):
He was promoted from FC a guy to president, coach,
general manager of an NFL team in two years.
Speaker 2 (51:01):
Not his fault.
Speaker 16 (51:01):
Obviously he's gonna take the opportunity. Well, it was his message.
Was it because we saw him speak? Hey, well you
guys recept it. You guys were receptive.
Speaker 7 (51:09):
I know.
Speaker 8 (51:09):
I don't want to go too deep into that.
Speaker 2 (51:11):
Is that what started you and Bill O'Brien's fist fight?
Speaker 8 (51:15):
No, I didn't.
Speaker 16 (51:18):
Wow, Okay, that holidays all right, we won't talk about that,
the NFL holiday remixed time. That's off season conversation. What
you did picked him up off the ground, his little
feats for doing like this. Yeah, this could be your
life right now, if that's what you want.
Speaker 8 (51:33):
I don't even remember how this started. I love that
it's rolled, but I don't even remember how this sold began.
Speaker 2 (51:38):
It was you did it?
Speaker 8 (51:39):
Yeah, I think there stood it somewhere.
Speaker 2 (51:42):
Yeah. No, no, we got we gotten some good battles before,
but no physical confrontations.
Speaker 5 (51:48):
Great, these are jackasses. That's JJ Watt Jack Easter be
Seawan smoke in front of the team before divisial round
playoff game that no one asked him to do.
Speaker 2 (52:02):
It's just so spot on for jackieaster Beat. That's leadership. God, dude,
roll up off, man, Oh my god, why you gotta
do so? That guy sucked? How the hell did he
get into power? Oh my gosh, alright, man, it's who
you know. Remember, apparently he knew a lot of people
(52:25):
because he had a good gig.
Speaker 5 (52:26):
Man, can you imagine in your career having a guy
like that out of nowhere? Just comes Waltzon in the
locker room. Hey, fellas, let's let's get on a knee together.
Speaker 2 (52:35):
Guess what. I hate to tell you this or him
that that would have never happened exactly, would have never happened.
They were just with the locker room. Wouldn't let it happen?
Speaker 5 (52:45):
I mean before a division round playoff game and he's
not even no one asked you to.
Speaker 2 (52:49):
Jack Those are usually if nobody asks you, that's player
reserve where they just jump up and said, I got
something to say. But usually the motivational speakers are are
a pair for it and you're asked to do it.
I don't know where that came from. I don't know
how it impacted the team, but it did not. I
wouldn't think so. So you got to understand the room
(53:09):
you're in. Yeah, and no, he wouldn't have that. Times
have changed, let's just put it that way. No, Well,
I can just tell you this. A chaplain, Yeah, God,
I'd love him. Everybody needs one. We all turn to
the Good Lord and need I know all that, But
I can tell you this did A chaplain would have
never gone from chaplain to player personnel or was a
vice president of operations. That would not have happened that that.
(53:32):
I mean, maybe he goes unmotivating on speaking tour, but
he's not going to be the general manager of a
team when he started as the chaplain unless somehow football
was part of his whole career while he was you know,
getting his master's degree and all that. But that wasn't
gonna happen. Now, whether you know whoever else Jack had,
somebody's here. Yeah, that's for damn sure. Do you do
you remember?
Speaker 5 (53:52):
Because Okay, So I started on the show in July
of twenty twenty two. He was fired in October early
October of twenty twenty two. I remember us talking about,
of course, all of the drama with Deshaun Watson. We
covered that dude at nauseum, like it was ridiculous how
much we talked about that. But before I got on
the show, can you remember hearing and talking about the
stuff that he was doing. Oh yeah, he was like
(54:14):
walking out of the building with employees and right before
they would get out of the building, he would like
randomly just grab their hands and say, hey, let's pray together.
Speaker 2 (54:22):
Like that's just well, that is just unbelievable. The one
thing that there's a few things you just don't do
in locker rooms with teams. One is forced that on anybody. Yeah,
because you got locked because listen, the guy who's studying
the Bible at lunch is reading his scripture, which is great. Yeah,
the next guy next to him is talking about whatever. Right,
(54:44):
The next guy talking to hims it doesn't believe in
studying the Bible. The next guy talking to him is
going to lunch, and five of the fellas are going
to go because it was an early practice, are going
to go have a beer and everybody's laugh. So that's
the place that you just don't you let people come
to you about it. You can share it, but you don't.
(55:04):
You're probably not gonna force You don't force it anybody's anything,
whether it's religion or the salary. You don't get in
people's wallets, all those things that go on, and you
don't pillow talk, right, you just don't. And when all
those when something is out of the realm, like a
motivational speech that you weren't prepared for by a guy
that you weren't prepared to give it, it usually doesn't
(55:25):
go over well. Now, like I told you, when we
were seeing ready to play Notre Dame, all of a
sudden John McKay walks in. Coach McKay, it's like, yeah,
it's a little different day of the game. Yeah, fifteen
minutes before you go out. And that's tugging at your
emotion as well, because he obviously was pretty good at it.
Speaker 8 (55:38):
Right.
Speaker 2 (55:38):
So, but if all of a sudden the team chaplain
from sc would have walked in and started giving a
motivational speech, not that it wouldn't matter. I mean, if
you're Inky Johnson, you want that speech because he's motivated
what he's been through it. That's Inky john That's my point. Yeah,
So yeah, you can be spiritual and be a great
motivational speaker, but you got to know the room and
when it's your time to get in front of him,
and when when they're this guy got us run through
(55:59):
a wall, because those motivational speeches are for one reason,
to get you to do stuff that you didn't think
you could do. And that's the way it works. And
if they don't, and if you leave there thinking why
the hell did this just happen, it does quite the opposite.
It's probably what happened. Have you heard his speeches before?
I have oh stand up comedy of Yeah, I've I've
(56:21):
heard it. I'm sure he's a good man some I
mean I am, but he was probably in the wrong profession,
you know what I'm saying. He can impact people. I mean,
I'm sure he has impacted plenty of people along the way,
but making football GM decisions and having power in the
organization probably wasn't it. That's the one. You know how
(56:42):
you're supposed to sit out in movie talk? Yeah, sit
that one out. Yeah you're not really supposed You're back
into the fray. You've really come a long way, Brian, Well,
you really have a long as long as it's I mean,
you know first blood sig Horny Weaver and you'll know
who she is. Yeah, I mean, it's really you're a
tribute to you.
Speaker 4 (57:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (57:00):
So that's that's like one of my things here, right,
Like obviously I'm not the biggest movie buff. But the slander,
you know, the stander, the slander I get from your
goons for not knowing movies when you're just trying to
teach a young guy about movies.
Speaker 2 (57:16):
It's just, you know, it's it's it's just it's just
not needed.
Speaker 5 (57:20):
What's wrong with learning? Where where do we go? And
you know what, Billy Chamberlain, you should be ashamed of yourself.
Aren't you a military man?
Speaker 2 (57:27):
What do you, Billy do to you? He said?
Speaker 5 (57:29):
Your lack of movie knowledge is ash cheeks. God forbid,
I learned, Billy.
Speaker 13 (57:33):
You know what I mean?
Speaker 2 (57:34):
Aren't you a military man? Isn't that what we do
to our young teacher?
Speaker 1 (57:39):
Damn right?
Speaker 2 (57:39):
We bring him along, no man left behind. And you
want a slander. You should be ashamed of yourself for
being a legend of the Coast Guard. Billy, why you
gotta call it? You call it billy, Let's call it billy, Billy?
Speaker 8 (57:51):
Right?
Speaker 2 (57:51):
Nice? Motivational speech. Yeah, hey, nice motivational speech. We're ready
to run through a wall for you. Yeah, one fish
fish bluefin may not still know the movie thing, but
you know what's fine teaching. You know what you're you
know what, you're a quick study, exactly. You got to
teach young bucks sometimes. What's the name of the person
we learned about today, sick Horny Weaver? Thank you, thank you,
a good night. Damn right, I learned something today, Triple.
(58:15):
Do you know sick horny Weaver?
Speaker 17 (58:16):
Is?
Speaker 2 (58:16):
I did not see them slander Triple. I'm just here.
I'm just here to teach. I'm just here to teach. Unbelievable, Okay,
that's all. I'm just all the tongue and ship. I'll
just hear the mentor exactly on sig horny Weaver. Okay,
god forbid, I is like I was like eight years old. Well,
(58:39):
it's shameful that you haven't gone back.
Speaker 5 (58:40):
And terrifying movie when I was that young. Yeah, you know, man,
that movie probably sucks too. Oh it's interesting, I mean
not not that I won't watch it.
Speaker 2 (58:52):
And Godfather probably too. Yeah, that's you heard of Marlon
Brando once or twice. Yeah, okay, yeah, name another movie,
then we gotta go to break. Yeah, that's what I thought. Okay,
Marlon Brando, come on, get off the Google machine here,
got on on it. You just start rolling up my
copy points. Yeah for what many copy points around here?
(59:14):
We know him by heart, because that's a dude. Yeah, man,
he was in uh.
Speaker 8 (59:21):
He was.
Speaker 2 (59:22):
Oh really, so you're not ready to guys and dolls?
What are we doing? Yeah? What are you doing? The score? Okay,
what are you doing? Marlon Brando? Huh yeah, check that out.
You really do learn something new every day. The Wild One?
You ever heard of the Wild One?
Speaker 17 (59:35):
Dude?
Speaker 2 (59:35):
You can't name any movie but The Godfather, which is pitiful.
That's all a deeper hole due American. You might want
to go to break the fugitive kind. You might want
to go to break bedtime story. You'll think it to
every movie. He says that he's a that he's a
bottom mafia with your jaw jutted out. He was in
(59:56):
the Wild One. Yeah, I know you probably saw that too. Yeah,
evil and evil in that one too. Don't bury the
on the water front lead and that's a good that's
a good one as well. Yeah, you'll never see it
though we could recognize. Oh whoa a lot of strait.
Just that was a direct hit man. That's just you know,
a little late for you. That's my battleship. That's exactly
what that is.
Speaker 5 (01:00:16):
Directly Well, just called Billy Chamber and he was in
the Coast Guards, so he can figure that out.
Speaker 14 (01:00:21):
Better.
Speaker 2 (01:00:22):
Roll up off, Billy Man.
Speaker 5 (01:00:23):
I can't wait to see if tweets me. Will he's listening.
We love our guy, Billy Man. William Check.
Speaker 2 (01:00:29):
Don't walk it back, don't get scared now, I'll get
your ass kicked by a military guy. Just yeah, rescue
swimmers in Kevin Coster.
Speaker 5 (01:00:41):
What is that movie, The Guardian? Yeah, yeah, that's a
good one. It's a good movie, by the way. All right,

that movie? Wa, why don't you tell us who's in it?
Random too? We just like to know who the who
the main voice and actor is in the sect. Tom Hanks, Oh, yeah,
that's thanks for looking that up for you. I didn't
because I mean, he didn't know any red blooded human
(01:04:01):
beings has seen that. Polar Express? What's that? I've seen
Polar Tress? What's that?
Speaker 8 (01:04:05):
Brandon?
Speaker 7 (01:04:07):
I watched?
Speaker 8 (01:04:09):
I have the book?
Speaker 2 (01:04:12):
Have you read the book?
Speaker 3 (01:04:12):
Though?
Speaker 8 (01:04:13):

Speaker 18 (01:04:14):

Speaker 17 (01:04:36):
Man?
Speaker 2 (01:04:37):
Yeah, you keep doing your thing, Brando, don't worry about him.
I'll try to shape him up so he knows who
the Polar Express is. I mean, somewhere along the line,
poor guy just didn't well, he just didn't do it.
The rest of us did growing up, and he checked
out on Polar Express.
Speaker 5 (01:04:49):
Don't listen to him, Brandon, Brandon, you know Rudolph the
red Nose reindeer. Yes, you know, he had a very
shiny nose. Yes, and if you ever saw it would
even say it glows.
Speaker 4 (01:05:03):
That's as the sound worked.
Speaker 2 (01:05:06):
Yeah, got it, God is asked. Good job, Brando. Hey Brandon,

All right, We look forward to it, Bud. Thank you?
Are you okay?
Speaker 8 (01:05:17):

Speaker 2 (01:05:42):

what National Lampoons was? Why?

Speaker 6 (01:06:32):
Guy?
Speaker 4 (01:06:33):
Elf?
Speaker 2 (01:06:33):
And you don't slap your chick? Could? I? I've slapped
it on about eight other movies. Maybe I like one
better than the other. Okay, all right, what's your favorite
Christmas movie? It's hard to say. Put Home Alone's top
of the list. Still love it all? I love Home Alone?
Did you like Home Alone?
Speaker 18 (01:06:52):
Two?
Speaker 2 (01:06:52):
I like them all, man. I know they were different
as they got all Home Alone three sucks it did,
but I still watched It's not good. I still watch it.
But the first kid is root control car, Like, what
are we doing? Yeah? The first two burr, Yeah, the
first two. The third one was not good, but it
was not Still watched it, but yeah, the first one,
it's a classic. It's it's a classic. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:07:08):
That's how I don't understand how Tripley hasn't ever seen
National Lampoo's Christmas Vacation.
Speaker 2 (01:07:13):
There's another classic. So those two are the most weekend
and for for the historic value and that it's it's
a wonderful life. Yeah, but you've never seen that. I
have no, you actually have it, you know. Just go
watch one forgetting your feel good spirits. Just go watch
one during the holiday season. Maybe you'll find something out
about yourself. What in the hell what is wrong with you?
Speaker 7 (01:07:34):
Right now?
Speaker 5 (01:07:34):
I'm reading the list of Christmas Yeah, the one hundred
Best Christmas Movies of all Time by Rotten Tomatoes.
Speaker 2 (01:07:47):

Speaker 11 (01:08:17):

Speaker 5 (01:08:17):
Exactly, It's a wonderful life. Sean comes in at number ten.
Let's tell you how stupid this list is. Die Hard
die Hard is not a Christmas movie? Well, someone number eleven. No,
it's just it's it's just it's a movie that took
place around Christmas.
Speaker 2 (01:08:31):
That's it. That's all it is. It's not a Christmas movie.
Good movie, but it's not a Christmas movie. The Apartment?
You ever heard of the Apartment?
Speaker 8 (01:08:40):
Dude?
Speaker 2 (01:08:40):
I don't know what this is. I don't know what
this list is, this list, I haven't heard any of those. Oh,
here you go, number sixteen. You ready for this one?
Tokyo Godfathers one of the great movies of all time? Well,
you're you're looking at these lists and stuff like, tell
me why Edward scissors hands is on this because he
(01:09:01):
went to the people who wrote the article and some
in the scissors hands y. I totally forgot. This is
disrespectful a Christmas story. I was just about to ask Christmas.
Christmas story should be in the top ten.
Speaker 7 (01:09:12):
It is.
Speaker 5 (01:09:13):
It's not it, but yeah it should be. I feel
like you're just down on Christmas movies in general.
Speaker 2 (01:09:18):
Man, I am no the wrong guy. Why is Batman
Returns on this? What is this stupid ass? Do you
keep reading it if they don't make any sense?
Speaker 5 (01:09:27):
Because I'm getting ready to get us to break Tease it, man, yeah,
tease it up. This is stupid rotten tomatoes. I expected better, man,
You know.
Speaker 2 (01:09:37):
What the hell is? Carol? Maybe should maybe should rent

might be the best movie you've ever seen?
Speaker 6 (01:09:45):

Speaker 2 (01:09:46):
You still got to pay for it? I know, I know,
I miss Blockbusters? I do too. What are you doing?
I was gonna what are you doing? Yeah? Yeah, block
buss Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:09:57):
Yeah d But yeah, you didn't look at me for
me to drop it, so I couldn't do it. It
wouldn't have made sense. Don't worry about it, man, we'll
get it. We'll get it later.
Speaker 2 (01:10:10):
I'm here. I'm here for it all. And in your
disrespect on Polar Express and Tom Hanks, my disrespect, you've
never seen it, seen it. It's unbelievable. I can say.
Speaker 5 (01:10:23):
I could probably say like fast in the Furious five,
and he'd be like, well, you've never seen it.
Speaker 2 (01:10:27):
Well, of course you've seen that. That's that's all opposite.
That's who you are. Family. Yeah, yeah, sorry, but you don't.
You don't want to see anything with any soul in it,
like soul plane, No, it just has like deep in
your soul that's touched. It touches your soul. You want
to see these these fluff movies. Did you know that
every time a bell rings, an angel gets its wings? Thanks? Yeah, yeah,
(01:10:49):
good stuff by you. You ever seen that movie? I have? Yeah?
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (01:10:54):
Man, you're ready hear Bobby Slow talk about this. I
am because offense, because.
Speaker 2 (01:10:58):
Explosives are gonna come up in this converse and I
need more of them in this football game.
Speaker 5 (01:11:02):
We're gonna hear Bobby slog talk about those quote unquote explosives.
Speaker 2 (01:11:06):
That's next we want to win.
Speaker 3 (01:11:09):
Sean Salisbury continues on seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (01:11:13):
There it is Sewn and Brian part of a collect coming.
Speaker 5 (01:11:16):
To what was that place that Tony invited us to
down in Freeport? Anglers? Free Free Anglers?
Speaker 2 (01:11:23):
Is that coming to near you? You mean it karaoke?
Speaker 4 (01:11:25):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:11:25):
Oh yeah, I'm ready. Man, he's probably listening, like, no,
you jackass. He butchered it, damn it. What was it called.
Speaker 12 (01:11:33):
Here?
Speaker 5 (01:11:33):
You were down there party in the past. Yeah, I've
been lost there, but it used to be it used
to be a different name. Yep, you'll party though.
Speaker 2 (01:11:40):
Yeah, Tony, if you're listening, called tripley and let us
know what the place you invited us to. That's my bad,
Dog's bad, you know what I mean.
Speaker 5 (01:11:47):
Let's hear from offensive coordinator Bobby Slow. He talked about
quote unquote explosives for this offense.
Speaker 19 (01:11:52):
Yeah, well, I can't give all the secrets, you know,
but I would say explosives would be the number one thing,
you know, if you keep it fairly. It's it's our
quarterbacks really good at throwing explosives. We got really good skills.
We got a really good running back, we got a
great tight end, and we got guys that you know,
can stretch the field if they need to, and and
also can catch the ball underneath and run for it.
(01:12:15):
So I think, like if you take out last week,
which I don't know if we had an explosive, maybe
we had one, and yet we still are ranked like
sixth in the NFL going into last week, we were
somewhere in the top three, and we've been there pretty.
Speaker 2 (01:12:27):
Much the entirety of the last year and a half,
you know, So that would probably be.
Speaker 19 (01:12:32):
The number one thing that jumps out is you know,
at any time, if we get what we want, that
the players can just make explosive fun plays happen explosive.
Speaker 5 (01:12:43):
Sean Well, I mean, I get the explosives and the
talent and the playmakers that got, but I really haven't
seen much explosive here this season.
Speaker 2 (01:12:52):
For I think he's I think the messages they're trying
to it's almost like team here, this we're trying to.
I think there's hid meaning in it. I do when
it's not hidden. But I think there's a subtle, a
subtle remark to not only himself reminder, but to the
team and maybe to send a message of Cana City.
We're going to attack, and I hope they do. You
(01:13:13):
can't make explosives or attack unless you do put yourself
in position to attack. Now, an explosive can be a
five yard shallow cross or the guy runs for thirty.
It's just judicious, judicious by the quarterback to throw the
ball the right guy and throw it accurately so they
can do work with the ball in their hands after
and one explosive against the Miami Dolphins defense is not enough, right,
and it's just not so combination of They need more
(01:13:36):
of it. They played some sideways football last week, and
that's okay, but you still have to even if they're incomplete,
you still have to take your shots. Why because the
less shots you take and you keep playing horizontal football,
I'm going to keep squeezing and I'm going to keep squeezing,
and I'm going to keep squeezing, and then when they're there,
you got to hit him. But you cannot play sideways
all the time without at least attacking vertically. And they've
(01:13:59):
got players that they can in Tank Dell can get
up the field. Obviously, Nico Collins is a monster, So
you have to do that doesn't mean it doesn't have
to be cute manufacturing, but they need run after the catch,
and so I think there's a message being sent that
we need more of these. They've got the potential to
do it, but you know what, we're at the stage
of the season. Screw potential. Yeah, it's time to put
(01:14:22):
it to work and see and if you miss a few,
that's okay. What it'd be willing to take them at
the right time.
Speaker 5 (01:14:27):
Do you know what the longest pass play was against
the Dolphins? Yardage wise?
Speaker 2 (01:14:31):
It couldn't have been thirty yards? Fifteen Yeah, I mean
watching the game, it was just catch and tackle, catch
and step out of bounds, catch and tackle, catch, get
a few yards. The oh my gosh play was not there. Now,
they were fortunate that their defense got a bunch of
wild plays. It's got to flip the field. When your
defense is well, when your defense has made more explosives
(01:14:53):
than you have, Bullock's interception explosive, When they have done
that more than you have, that's a great thing for
your defense. But the offense needs to take notice and say, damn,
our best offense last week was our defense. Yeah, that
you're not going to get with Mahomes and with Josh
excuse me, Lamar Jackson. You're not going to have a
whole lot of leeway to play average offense there and
(01:15:17):
continue to rely on your defense.
Speaker 5 (01:15:18):
There's too many good offenses. The average per pass for CJ.
Strout against the Dolphins five yards and.
Speaker 2 (01:15:25):
With minimal run after the catch because there was not
a lot of yards last week, and fifteen yards as
your explosive, that doesn't really qualify as an explosive. No,
it's a you know, usually, I mean, depending on some
teams will say, well, twelve yards or more for a run,
or ten yards or more for run, twelve for a pass.
To me, it's it's that fifteen or more who qualifies
as an explosive. Some have their what they qualify it
(01:15:46):
as you know. Some think the red zones, the thirty
yard line, some call it the twenty twenty five, so
anywhere in that range. But that's not enough and it
will not be enough against Kansas City. And I'm going
to tell you what you thought they were hard to
come by against Miami. Yeah, I got news for you. Frankly,
if you're my the defense of Kansas City, you do
recognize the potential of this offense. But until you see
(01:16:07):
them attack you vertically and physically. That way, You're probably
you want to make them continue to play sideways football,
because sideways football is good as long as they still
have to respect the vertical game. And right now, with
the lack of explosives, that's not a big concern. Hence
why you've got to make it a concern of your
own and self scout and get yourself ready. And ay
(01:16:28):
slowc has mentioned you know, we take a hard look
at ourselves, yeah, and worry about our stuff. Well, if
if that explosive this week, Brian's fifteen yards, well they
won't get out of Kansas City.
Speaker 7 (01:16:38):
With a win.
Speaker 2 (01:16:38):
No, They're gonna have to have more of that.
Speaker 5 (01:16:40):
Yeah, I'm worried about the offense, meaning the play calling
and the execution starts with play calling, and it starts
with execution obviously starts with protection, right dude, Chris Jones
is so good yeap. So that's I want to discuss
more of the play calling and what it should look
like as we can into the eight o'clock hour right
(01:17:02):

Shoe in Columbus, Ohio. Ohio State favored by seven and
(01:17:23):
a half. I'm gonna take the points in Tennessee. I
don't know if Tennessee's gonna be able to win that game,
but give me Tennessee plus seven and a half at
least to cover against Ohio State. Ohio State coming off
an ugly loss against Michigan a couple weeks off and
see if they can figure their offense out against a
tough Tennessee team in the first round of the college
football Playoffs. Give me Tennessee plus seven and a half.
(01:17:44):

Texans and Chiefs tomorrow noon kickoff. Aaron Wilson, NFL Inside
are going to join us at eight thirty College football
playoff start tonight. Notre Dame, Indiana seven one three two
two five seven ninety is the number two joint scouts
the phone lines. We'll start with Austin, Austin, what's happening?
Speaker 8 (01:19:52):
How's it going this morning?
Speaker 2 (01:19:54):
Guys, Terrible bo were here, Buddy.
Speaker 8 (01:19:58):
Go man.
Speaker 14 (01:19:59):
I'm gonna aside with uh with Sean on this one.
I think the Home Alones Home Alone one and two
are hands down probably the best Christmas movies. Those are
my favorite. But I wanted to ask Sean. I mean, obviously,
last season we saw a whole lot more explosives out
of the offense, So I want to know what's changed.
(01:20:20):
I mean, are is it just teams are playing the
Texans a lot differently than they were last year. They
know what the potential is, so I mean what I
guess my thing is is what has changed.
Speaker 2 (01:20:37):
Austin. Thank you man. I'm with you on the movies too.
Appreciate appreciate that. I think it's more than one thing.
I think you know, when we we always were looking
for the one answer. I think all of us are
when you're taking a step back, because I believe going
in and Digs or no Digs who obviously he was
headed for a thousand yard season in another big year,
which is a commonplace for him, but they still have
(01:21:00):
weapons without him. There's still enough weapons to have explosives,
so and having him it obviously creates more spacing because
you know, now you've got to deal with a bunch
of number ones, two of them to be exact. And
then Tank Dell on the rise, and you got a
good tight end, and you got a good backfield, I
mean a good receiver out of the backfield, the guy
who can run it. I think it's one is the
(01:21:22):
expectation of the offense. You caught him off guard last
last year. People study but and I think they played
more aggressive because they were a three win team going
in and it's almost as if, okay, we're in the
learning space. Who do we want to be and I
and everybody caught him by storm. Nico Collins elevated, c. J.
Stroud took it to another level. I mean, it was
an impressive year. And when you first see size like
(01:21:45):
any it's like first time around the lineup and uh,
pitcher has you know, has the advantage, but I'm going
through it as cy young winner. And by the third
time around, while you still may have a cy young winner,
it becomes a little more difficult, and I think that's
part of the part of it. I think they there's
been a lack of attention to detail at times. I
think that the penalties early on bogged them down, and
(01:22:06):
concerned in the collateral damage had an effect on the hits.
Also on Stroud has had hits that you start to
invent things and borrow trouble when it's not there, and
he's part of it. I think, Bobby Slow, when you
lean on Joe Mixon and realize you got such a
good defense, I think it does take aggressiveness away because
you say, what's our best chance to win? We can't
hold the ball along to push the ball down the field.
(01:22:27):
We've got a good runner and our defense can get
us more possessions and they'll get stops, and then the
natural tendency is to play defensive offensive football. And watched
last week the Miami Dolphins are an average defense. They're okay, okay,
but they it almost as if they win and saying
all's we got to do is if we just don't
turn it over our defense, and it worked to perfection
(01:22:49):
for them last week. Defensively, you're not going to have
that happen every week. You're just not. And so I
think there's a lot of reasons I do, and the
coordinator I do think you get comfortable and as easy
to do. Damn, I've been on a team. We have
explosive offenses and Hall of Fame guys on one side,
but we always knew our defense led the league in
(01:23:09):
scoring when I mean touchdowns, that they were gonna get
us something, and there is that crutch that you lean on.
I honestly think the next three weeks they have to
I don't want to say experiment, but I think they
have to get back to being who they are all
as you are, be who you were last year, and
just add the fact that you've got a beast in
the red backfield. That's why going into this. It's so
bothersome to me. They should be more explosive because of
(01:23:32):
play action with Joe Mixon in the backfield. Because listen,
as good as Pierce was as a rookie last year,
he took a step back because he learning an offense.
They were not very good running the football last year,
and they add a guy so instantly. If you're putting
a defensive coordinator on the field and he's preparing for
these guys, you automatically when you're preparing for Baltimore. You
(01:23:53):
went into this season, then after you saw that Derek
Henry was real again that this is a player gaft
to getting out of Tennessee. They had plenty of game.
Look what Lamar's in my opinion, having his best pure
passing season of his career. Why good player, hell of
an MVP. But also the field automatically has to open
it because if it doesn't, we've seen what Derek Henry
(01:24:16):
has done to this team here over the years in Tennessee.
They you're playing on your heels and he's playing downhill
like you would rolling a golf ball down your driveway.
Unless you got something there, it's going to keep rolling
and keep on rolling. And that's what he did here.
So Baltimore has that advantage because they're using it to
their strength, which is even if he doesn't touch it,
(01:24:36):
you have to respect them. You'll get he'll embarrass you
running over you. And Mixon's got that ability. So I
think that's a lot of things I do, but it
all starts with your ability to put trust back in
and saying, who are we really when I came here.
When I came here, we knew we had to be
aggressive to win because we didn't have enough personnel. They
got more personnel, and they've they've decided that, you know what,
(01:24:58):
let's stay in a little bit in lower gear is
when are we going to see all of them all
cylinders erupt? I think these last three games not experimental.
I think they've got to get back to saying we
have mixing. Our play action game should be far more
explosive and dominant. I need more of it, and I
don't think they can win a Super Bowl without it.
Haven't we said this every week?
Speaker 16 (01:25:18):
Though?
Speaker 5 (01:25:18):
You know, when when are we going to see all cylinders?
When are we going to see it opened up? When
are we going to see this? Whenever we see that
it's the same story every weekend.
Speaker 2 (01:25:25):
You're right, and you start to think, well, maybe this
is who they are in twenty twenty four. Maybe it
is who they are because we got enough body of
work this year to say why, why has it changed?
But I think a lot of things happen in football games,
and you know you adjust during but you go into
a season. But if you would have told me that
the offense would be quite frankly and inconsistent all year long,
(01:25:46):
and I said, wait a minute, you told me they
added this guy. This guy got better, They had this guy,
this guy's healthy, Tank Dell's healthy. They got a better
offensive line at least they should have on paper. And
they've got Joe Mix in the backfield. There's no way
he doesn't have a better year as an offensive play caller.
So it fall, and you can get into habits of
doing stuff that you trust. But even they're not working.
(01:26:08):
That's your staples. Sometimes your staple's not going. You've got
to adjust. Yeah, they've got to be better at it.
One explosive for fifteen yards is going to get you
an early pass home. It has to change because that
defense is getting that. They are putting you in plenty
of position to have success this weekend. If you're Bobby Slow,
you can't go in with this run heavy first offense.
Their defensive line, their interior is too good. In the
(01:26:30):
Kansas City Chiefs, you're going to have to rely more
on the pass to be successful. Wouldn't it be the
same as going and sticking your hand without a without
a suit to protect you in a honey you know
we're be's off are yeah, and sticking your hand in
their bear and rattling the nest and not expecting yourself
(01:26:50):
to get bit and stung all over It is stung,
I say bit the same thing, you know, stung all
over the place and saying, well, how why that happen? Well,
the best thing to do is probably when you see one,
don't disrupt it and don't anger it. Go somewhere else.
It's the same thing here. Now, that doesn't mean you're
going to back off, because egos do get in the way.
I'm not going to let Kansas City dictate that I'm
(01:27:10):
not running between the tackles because they're dominant in the interior.
But it also doesn't mean that, hey man, you know what,
fish don't love swimming upstream And when you got to
keep doing it. Eventually they're tired and they get it.
You know, turn right around and swim downstream. It's the
same thing here. You keep swimming there. Eventually, now you've
got to play ketchup the way you don't want to,
and then they get the tee off on the pass rush.
(01:27:33):
So why in the world do I.
Speaker 8 (01:27:34):
Have to do?
Speaker 2 (01:27:36):
You got to against teams like this, You've got to
do something in order to have different results. You've got
to do different things. Yeah, and your steady diet this
week should be focused on. It could be the run game,
but playing away from what is one of the better
interiors in the league, it's pretty simple.
Speaker 8 (01:27:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:27:54):
And if all of a sudden you start to do
that and then they widen out and say, man, I
got to play sideways chase. Now we can get you
and trap you and inside zone you and push you
by and then cut back and do all those things.
And if you want big plays in a run game
against this team, your receivers must block.
Speaker 8 (01:28:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:28:09):
So I've never understood why people don't come out of
the shoot taking a chance. I want a defense when
I get into a game, to think though, this is
who we got today, and get them out of their
back pedal and turn, and then we can start to
pound the outside lane and get the simple stuff. I'm
(01:28:29):
just I think aggressively until I need to get a
four minute drill, which means give it to mixing eight
times in a row and kill the clock and go home. Yeah,
this ain't it. Yeah, I don't want to start the game.
Speaker 5 (01:28:38):
I don't want to see that defensive offensive football line
or defense A get it done, get in the red zone.
Speaker 2 (01:28:44):
Hey we'll take three. We got a really good field
goal kicker. When if you come out of a game
this year offensively with this talent and thought, there's been
a I'm talking about moments you've had. I'm talking about
from the opening tap till the buzzer sounds at the end.
When have you come out of it saying that's as
good offense as there not one time? Have you sad
it in Detroit this year? Have you said it in
(01:29:04):
Green Bay?
Speaker 8 (01:29:05):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:29:05):
Minnesota? Man, Look a Green Bay did the other night
against Cincinnati. Yeah, Pittsburgh, yes, Kansas City at that time,
but not really even them. They haven't had it. Chargers
last night looked pretty damn good. Point is we haven't
seen this team that's got dominant players come out. We
have said that offense is as good I'm talking about
it one game. That offense as good as anybody. You've
(01:29:27):
seen moments of it. You just haven't seen the sustained consistency.
And the only way to get through the playoffs offensively
is not explosives. It's sustained consistency with explosives, not the
other way around.
Speaker 5 (01:29:39):
Yeah, and with you know, we've we've talked and been
asked about Tank Dell and his kind of non existence
in this offense, especially in the passing game.
Speaker 2 (01:29:47):
Going into this game. They just need to take it
one play at the time. This is Sports Talk seven ninety.
We're going to take a break. And you know that
it was coming. Did you know I was actually saying, well,
with the tank, I'm thinking, I can't wait for this insight,
because you're right. I was going to say, maybe you
(01:30:07):
use him. You can't run him inside the tackles, but
maybe you use him some Deebo Samuel style jet sweeps,
fake jet sweet jet sweet toss him one for the backfield,
let him, let him get the space on the edge,
throwing the bubble screen, throwing the smoke screen, and you
don't think Nico Collins can't take a You can get
him the ball in his hand early because he'll run
right through dudes. That's an outside linebacker playing wide receiver.
But they can't do any of that. And let's say
(01:30:29):
take it one play at a time. You're I'm gonna
tell you what saying. You're your incredible insight, Yeah, is
different level. Did take us to bread. There's nothing to this,
I know, man.
Speaker 5 (01:30:41):
Look, this is not very often that I let a
guy that played quarterback in the NFL for ten years
and then a year up in Canada speechless, and I
do it on a daily base.
Speaker 2 (01:30:48):
So so basically what you're saying is I get those
years right. I got those years right. Yeah, two years
in Canada, Canada and a cup. But who's count anyway? Anyway?
Speaker 5 (01:30:57):
You I mean you, you know what you did. You
took our game to another level. We elevate and we
celebrate around here. But in all seriousness, they need to
get Tank Dell involved. I would sweeps, get him in space.
Do speed will at least widen the defense, at least
it stretches it. I can't again, did we talk about
(01:31:19):
spacing and basketball. Yeah, spacing and football is every bit,
if not more important. I would love to see like
one hundred yard receiving game from Tank. That would be great,
especially for my fantasy team. I would love that. All right,
let's continue to talk to these Texans. Coming up at
a eight thirty so in about fifteen minutes from now,
we're gonna have NFL insider Aaron Wilson joining the show.
And also in the nine o'clock hour, we're gonna dive
so much into college football playoffs starting at tonight Notre Dame, Indiana.
(01:31:42):
So don't go anywhere, continue to roll along right here
on seven to ninety the Sewan Salisbury Show.
Speaker 2 (01:31:46):
Before we get to that.
Speaker 5 (01:31:47):
You know, all these football games, you're gonna probably go
to a watch party or you're gonna host a watch
party or Christmas Eve right around the corner Christmas Day.
And if you're gonna have a Christmas party, you need
to add the new Daisy dips from Daisy Sower Care.
I mean Daisy Sour Cream launched the French onion and
Ranch sour cream dips. I love these dips and these
new excuse me, and these new dips from Daisy soa
(01:32:07):
Creamer are a game changer that tastes just as good
as if they were homemade. They are made with Daisy
sour cream, real herbs and spices, and the new dips
from Daisy Sour Cream are made with ingredients you can
find in your kitchen nothing more. So head over to
your local grocery store. They're at Chib's, or at Kroger's
or everywhere you need to go. They're at every everywhere
you need to search for when it comes to the
(01:32:28):
grocery stores, hib Kroger, like I said, wherever you go,
it's the new dip from Daisy Sour Cream. French Onion
and Ranch sour cream dip. Pair them with your favorite chips, wings,
vegetables and other foods. Your guests are gonna love them.
You're gonna love them for your college football watch party,
which starts tonight and of course tomorrow with the NFL
games on Saturday. The new Daisy Dip from Daisy Sour Cream.
Speaker 3 (01:32:51):
Let the celebration start war Sewn Salisbury.
Speaker 2 (01:32:55):
It's a Sewn Salisbury show. Let's talk to Reggie. What's
up Reggie?
Speaker 8 (01:33:02):
Hey?
Speaker 20 (01:33:02):
Sean Ay, Brian, how you doing good man?
Speaker 8 (01:33:05):
We're talking about.
Speaker 20 (01:33:08):
Shoot Speaking of chess nuts man, I think I had
El Duncan under my Christmas tree. I really have some
chits nuts working. Hey, Sean, I have a question. If
the Texans win out all their games, does that move
their seeding at all?
Speaker 2 (01:33:26):
If the Texans go, let's see, that would get them
to what twelve and five? They're nine right now, right,
twelve and five. We got the standings in Frontie Bryant.
We can work this out for they're already right now obviously.
Speaker 5 (01:33:41):
So it's a home game, right, yeah, they do, because
they've locked that up. So one seed is Kansas City,
two seed Buffalo Bills. Then the Steelers give me, give
me their wins right now, and then thirteen. Oh I'm
talking about to the people in.
Speaker 2 (01:33:54):
Front of us. Our Kansas City is thirteen and one,
and eleven and three Buffaloes eleven and three. Steelers are
ten and four. Okay, So let's assume the Steelers win
two of their last three, that would get them to
twelve and four. Buffalo wins, let's say two of their
last three they'd get them to thirteen and five. Correct
or thirteen and four and Kansas City. Let's say they
(01:34:14):
win two of their last three would get them to
fifteen and two. Is that correct? Yes? No, yeah, sorry, Yeah.
So if that's the case and the Texans went all three,
the answers, no, they would not move off that because
they'd have the worst record of the Well, they'd be
tied with Pittsburgh and I don't know what their first
(01:34:35):
with the tiebreaker between those would be right now, we'd
have to look. But no, so they'd have to get
some help. Now, if all of a sudden they go
they win their division and they got twelve wins, they
went all three and Pittsburgh goes one and two and
they are eleven wins and the Texans are twelve wins. Yes,
that would change their seating. So it still does matter.
(01:34:57):
It still does matter. You're gonna have to get a
little help because if all of them ran the two,
they're gonna sit right where they are now, division winner
playing in a home game. But if they get some
help and somebody loses a game or two and they win, yeah,
it'll change it because then they will go from the
the worst record of the four division winners. Too, because
it doesn't matter if a wild card team has more
(01:35:17):
wins than a division winner, they don't get a better seed.
Division winners will go first four seeds and then they'll
arrange it from there. So the only way they can
the three teams in front of them, they're gonna need
help because if they all win right now, the Texans
would they'd be in a in a The Steelers are
at ten wins right now, so you're gonna have to
(01:35:40):
get help from all of them, the Steelers at ten
and four Buffalo and Kansas City and a lot of
help because they're already a game behind the third ranked
team of all the divisions that would be the Pittsburgh
Steelers right now. So they're just gonna have to get
some help and win them all to have a chance
to move up. But yeah, if they have more wins
than somebody else in one of the other visions, they
(01:36:01):
will move up. Right now, they're the what would be
considered the four seed, I would imagine, right, Brian, because
the record in that because they have to be the
division winner on the worst with the worst record.
Speaker 11 (01:36:11):
Yep, Hey, Sean.
Speaker 20 (01:36:13):
Lastly, Uh, the best agent I see for upcoming quarterback
and I've been willing to call and ask you of this,
it's Kirk Cousin.
Speaker 17 (01:36:22):
Man.
Speaker 11 (01:36:22):
How's it this?
Speaker 18 (01:36:23):
Dude?
Speaker 20 (01:36:23):
Could manage to get the contracts he's gotten and perform
the way he is and just constantly signing these astronomical contracts. Man,
and I wanted your opinion on what's going on with
Kirk Cousin and how you handle that situation. If you
were at the gym and I hang up with.
Speaker 2 (01:36:41):
It, Thanks Reggie, I well, I would bench him too.
And it's not just one game, it's not just two games.
It's been six games where he's looked horrendous. It looks
like you forgot now. Listen, I understand the early hall
pass of coming off what was Achilles last year? The
injury tough to come. I've always said Achilles are tougher
to come back from than an e is now, so
(01:37:02):
that part of it is he lost a little confidence
putting his foot in the ground or his mechanics different.
But he's throwing the ball to the wrong team too often,
regardless if it's a wrong route. He's got to be in.
One thing Cousins has always been, and I've said this
on national shows before, that he doesn't he'll take a
sack before he'll throw the ball away. Because it's almost
as if he's trying to preserve a completion. It's weird.
(01:37:23):
That's been a weakness of his taking sacks that are unnecessary,
throw the ball away. He's not been great at that.
But the reason he keeps getting gigs real represented. It
only takes one guy in an organization to love you.
And he's got a good reputation as far as a
leader in fiery among his teammates. And he puts up
monster numbers. The monster numbers tease people to say, and
a wolf fix and if you're Atlanta was a tremendous
(01:37:45):
upgrade going in, Come on, man, mean a great upgrade.
But he's got into this funk now where it's not
one game, which he gets every year. He'll give you
two or three clunkers, right, but he's giving you six
in a row. Yeah, six straight weeks and you're the
playoff on you And that says some you've got a
rookie first round quarterback, but you don't want to go
to if you're a guarantee. He's an one hundreds of
million dollars guaranteed veteran, right, he's going to get this.
(01:38:07):
That's how he gets them because they trusted that he
was going to be I would have had them. I
think we had them win in the division, never Tampa
at the beginning of the season, so uh and and Cousin.
But he hasn't even played average, and that's a problem
for a guy who puts up huge numbers. They had
to go to him because right now Cousins can't salvage
the season and maybe Michael Pennocks can and and this
(01:38:28):
is why they drafted Pinnis. But this is earlier than
they wanted to use him. And now there, I'll tell
you what I do. And if you're Kirk Cousins, I'm
not allowing you. I'm not waving my no trade. You're
going to have to cut me because he's going to
go all Russell Wilson. I'm getting my money and then
I'm going to be free to go where i want
to go. So you're not going to wave that because
he'd be starting in Tennessee right now. Oh so there's
(01:38:48):
still places for him to be a starter, but he's
gotten into this funk right now that he can't get
out of. They absolutely have to make the change, and
right now the contract and the and the and the
decision to bring him in draft. Pinnicks smart to bring
Cousins in right now looks horrible. Yeah, terrible. But I
don't think he's done being a starter, because if he
gets to a team where he can go to and
there's there's right now, will Levis needs to sit and
(01:39:11):
watch and Cousins can play. But in Atlanta, if you
were watching his cousins the last six weeks, you say
this dude's a hack, and he's not, but it looks
like it. I would make the change too.
Speaker 8 (01:39:20):
You have to.
Speaker 2 (01:39:21):
You have to be You've been patient enough. He's been terrible.
You can't be this bad as a veteran who's been
in a league this long, whether it's injury or not.
I can't make excuses. He needs to go to the bench. Yeah,
there's no doubt, man, Michael Penix should be starting.
Speaker 8 (01:39:31):
All right.
Speaker 5 (01:39:32):
We're going to welcome in NFL Insider Erin Wilson the
show next on Sports Talk seven to.
Speaker 3 (01:39:35):
Eighty, The Sewn Salisbury Show continues.
Speaker 5 (01:39:42):
It's time to welcome in NFL Insider, talking Texans and Chiefs.
Speaker 2 (01:39:46):
Aaron Wilson, my bath. Sorry, I was just reading one
little article there about what I needed to ask you.
Sorry about that. Aaron Wilson joins us on Twitter at
Aaron Wilson always and you can get it a KPRC
channel two does great work for them seven ninety dot com.
Aaron's good to have you. Let's get to Charles a minute.
Who we were played some sound from him earlier former
(01:40:08):
Texan And I know you've had relationships with all these guys. Yeah,
any I know you do. You talked about him and
what a good guy and good players, and he was
a little like, yeah, exactly. So with that, it feels
like that he I don't know if bitterer's the right word.
His experience here, how bad he wants to win here
was did he have a bad experience with the front
(01:40:29):
office or coaching staff.
Speaker 7 (01:40:31):
He did.
Speaker 8 (01:40:32):
Yes.
Speaker 7 (01:40:34):
He was unhappy with his playing time, and it complained
to me a lot about how he felt like he
wasn't being utilized, wasn't hitting his potential. He also had
some maturity to do it. He would acknowledge that to
me from that interviews. Many times he just wasn't very
happy with the scheme. They thought that he was, you know,
(01:40:55):
not handling it well as a young player, not playing
as much, not having the role. But he hoped for
or he had a big chip on his shoulder. He
you know, the coaching stab at Texas was a very
supportive him. Tom Berman, he wanted to go in the
fifth round. Brian Gainet Bill O'Brien picked him, and he
was a player with a lot of potential seven sacks
first couple of seasons, and yeah, he feels some kind
(01:41:15):
of way toward the Texans. He's always felt this way.
This is just sort of getting a little more attention
because of the YouTube video. But yeah, this is not
news to me. I mean this is how he spelt
the whole time, and he's grateful to the forty nine
ers and development he had there, which helped to earn
the big contract with the Chiefs. He's back from an
(01:41:36):
ACL injury had last year and he's just started to
kind of around in the form. We had a sack
this or previous week. And I look at Charles as
a player with a great pass rusher. There's a lot
of respect for him inside the locker room. I would
disconnect how you might feel about Bubby Smith. And he's
(01:41:57):
still got friends there like Titus Howard, and it's kind
of I think it was on the field at some
fun But yeah, Charles definitely had a little more spice
to I'm sure the Texans fans will feel some kind
of way. I already study to see some of their
actually social but yeah, he just felt misused, and ultimately
I feel like they did him a solid nicking Sario
(01:42:18):
by trading him to a good organization. He played for
the best defensive line coach arguably in the NFL, Chris Becasseric,
and he grew as a player, and he had some
good moments like in the playoffs, you know, against Dak
Prescott the Dallas Cowboys helped them win a game. I think,
you know, for Charles, that's a big thing for him,
is that ship on his shoulder being underappreciated. He's a
(01:42:40):
kid from roled He's a Texas kid. He's a good guy,
I think for anybody that knows him, a really good personality.
But yeah, he kind of takes these things personal, builds
these things up to motivate himself. And you know he'll
try to get after CJ. Stroud, but hum and CJ
are friends, have the same agent, David Mulligetta. It's just
(01:43:03):
something I think for people to talk about. But yeah,
it's sure, it's interesting, but this is not news to
anyone year. He didn't have good relationship with Bobby King,
deposive line coach. They had nicknames for him. Primary arresting
be dash at dash Space because he always looked unhappy.
He had a scowl in the space. He couldn't hide
his emotions as a young person or control them the
way he probably can now. And so yeah, it was
(01:43:27):
constantly talks with him about him being unhappy. The fresh start.
It's paid dividends for him. I think everybody's all the
better for it.
Speaker 2 (01:43:38):
Aaron Wilson joins us get him Aaron Wilson on Twitter
and KPRC Channel two and Sports seven ninety dot com.
Always great to have him in talking Texans and the NFL.
All right, speaking of that, I think both defenses in
this are the strength of both teams this year and
going into it, it's going to be very, very difficult
to deal with the interior of the Kansas City Chiefs defense.
(01:43:58):
How they going to offset that this week?
Speaker 7 (01:44:02):
You have to always account for number ninety five. That's
the biggest part of the blocking assignment. That's Chris Jones,
stone cold. You've got to get a hat on him,
more hats, and it only has five sacks this year,
But this is someone that has the talent where he's
had fifteen and a half sacks seasons. He's still, especially
when you put him on the edge, made an impact.
(01:44:23):
He just hasn't been as disruptive inside because I think
everyone he pays attention to him and there's so much
double teams that he has to face and try to
fight through. But a really formidable player just is going
to stop in the run as he is a rushing
the passer and he's assignment number one for Titus Howard
(01:44:45):
Jared Patterson. He's got in the interior well.
Speaker 2 (01:44:48):
Bobby Slok said this week that they need more explosives.
One fifteen yard play along on only one explosive apparently
last week. So we keep saying it, and we haven't
seen the great tech offense sustained for a game or
two in a row yet this year, but they do
have the potential. So with that in mind, how do
you dial up more explosives against a defense it's pretty
(01:45:10):
damn good and what may be the best defensive coordinator
in the league. How are they going to do with.
Speaker 7 (01:45:14):
Bobby you Spagnolo outstanding?
Speaker 8 (01:45:17):
Yea?
Speaker 7 (01:45:17):
And to do what Bobby wants Sean. They're going to
have to get these man demand situations for Nico Collins,
and he's got to win those. He's capable of that.
We've seen that many times. He's an opportunity for them.
And then you look at Joe Mixon. They've got to
get him on track. He's going to play in this game.
(01:45:38):
He has a mild ankle injury, but he's off the
injury report. He had a pretty good week of practice.
It got better every day and you probably saw the
video I posted. He was moving pretty well in practice yesterday.
So they sustain that. They get mixed on some edges.
They try to get him on track, go to Nico.
Other guys though, have to be involved, and that was
(01:45:59):
one of the point. We did an interview with Bobby
Slower bringing up Tank Dale. Tank showed explosiveness on punt returns.
We've seen him do things in the open field before.
They've got to get him involved, more involved, I believe,
to maximize the potential offense, it can't just be Nico
and Joe. Other players, including Daldon Schultz. They've got to
(01:46:21):
make some plays and the offense has to tilt some
of the passes in their direction. It can't just be
a two man game with the quarterback at the control. CJ.
Strouds throwing primarily that those guys are hanging off. I
think they've got to diversify the offense a bit to
hit their potential. And of course you got to protect.
(01:46:41):
You got a run block, and it all starts with
the offensive line. And the last week against Miami, you know,
it was sort of mixed results with the new configuration
of Blake Fisher right tackle and Titus Howner left guard.
Maybe it looks better this week as they tried it again.
Speaker 2 (01:46:56):
Aaron, I'm curious about, you know, the Tank Dell situation.
I know, not Deebo Samuel Bobby Sloan from that scene
that Swiss army knife and he can't You're not gonna
run him in between. But in order to get him
the ball, what's the problem of getting him out of
the backfield and Jets sweeping him and lining him up
and toss sweeping him in certain situations and you know,
getting him screens on the quick edge. What you're gonna
have to do. You're gonna have to play outside that
(01:47:17):
interior this year, make him chase a little bit or
this week and make him chase. So how do you
manufacture those plays to get the ball in his hand
quickly so he can put his foot in the ground
and do work in space.
Speaker 7 (01:47:28):
It just takes creativity and takes a intentionality to do that,
so you have to, you know, dial him up. They
did it with the one jet sweep. And this is
actually my question that I asked Bobby and he was
happy with the production on that. Okay, then do it
some more, right, you know when they you know, the
forty nine ers where he comes from from that system.
(01:47:50):
I'm not saying he's demo Samuel either, but wouldn't it
be capable of doing that three times a game?
Speaker 2 (01:47:55):
Agreed?
Speaker 7 (01:47:56):
Logic agreed, yes, yes, so yeah, this is pointing critis
of the Bobby. I'm just being logical here that they
can increase their opportunities with more Tank Dew and he's
one of the few really fast playmakers. You know, they
don't have the possession receiver now with Stefan Diggs, but
(01:48:17):
you can still move the chains with Tank and when
given the opportunity, can strike deep there with some times
where he was open and him CJ's timing was off
a big byproduct of it all is the way they
change the offense and the shift they've had to make
without Stefan Diggs. Can't underscore that enough how important it
(01:48:37):
is that they had spent the whole offseason emphasizing digs.
So now midstream you've got to pivot to what's available,
and that's Tank Dell.
Speaker 2 (01:48:48):
Where does this stadium that they're going to play. It's
going to be cold and all that. As far as
home field advantages, tough place to go win even with
a not one hundred percent Patrick Mahomes. How do they
deal with this or is this just another game and
you go and it's twenty five degree weather and you
better just deal with it a forty degree weather or
fifty degree I don't even know what the full temperatures
is it in the fifties, whatever it's going to be,
(01:49:10):
but the intimidation part of it, like forties, Yeah, okay,
in the forties, which is not bad, that's good football
weather does the just the because it's one of the
more difficult plays in the league to play. How does
that play into this outdoors and all that when you're
trying to manufacture big plays.
Speaker 7 (01:49:25):
Right, you know, Denny cam Ryan has just tried to
let's make it bigger than it is. When you think
about the mystique, you know, you right, We've been the Narrowhead.
I've covered a lot of games there. You know, you
smell the barbecue, which enticing. You hear the crowd.
Speaker 2 (01:49:37):
It's loud.
Speaker 7 (01:49:39):
They win so often. Patrick Mahomes always makes the key
plays and you know they're playing for something. That's why
he's playing. They have a chance to get the top
seed if they win, and I believe in Buffalo loses,
so what they're You know, you're in an amped up atmosphere.
Their crowd is as loud as any place in the NFL.
(01:50:01):
It's like Pittsburgh, It's like a lot of these places
where they're very passionate. You can't play against the crowd.
You know, if you're a player, you have to focus
on your assignments and just play football. And that's a
sign of a maturing football team. You know, they're a
two time division champion. They're an up and coming team.
We know that they've had some ups and downs this season,
but nontheless, it's still been an overall successful season. And
(01:50:24):
you know Jamiko Ryans won two Division titles and CJS,
driving him the only quarterback head coach combo to win
division titles in each of their first two seasons together.
I think, you know, for the Texans, it's going to
take a lot of resolve. And you know, like these
guys say they play that song they're playing after the
(01:50:45):
Jacksonville game, walking to your traff, take over your trap.
Those guys like playing at the college and the level
too at LSU. They got to do that. They've got
to feel like, hey, we are the underdogs, everybody's against this,
and use them mentality, try to propel themselves towards victory.
And the Texans can still improve seating. There's still something
to play for. And not to mention, it's trying to
(01:51:07):
play some better football when you get to the playoffs
so that you can make some noise in the playoffs.
Because right now, what are people saying what the Texans?
The narrative is very simple. People don't think the Texans
are good enough to really make a run. And I
think that does motivate these guys and does spur them
towards something. Yep. Yeah, when you get there, if you're
not ready for it, you'll be exposed.
Speaker 2 (01:51:28):
And it'll be overwhelming. And yet yet this is one
of those they they got a chance to go on
a three game run here, or at least show not
only us but themselves that they belong, not only belong,
but that they can roll through January and make some
kind of impact. All right, what do you think about
this score? You picked it right last week. You said
they'd get Miami and they did. This one may be
a little tougher. Who do you like and what's the score?
Speaker 7 (01:51:48):
Yeah? I think Chiefs went in a close game. I
just I'm not going into the champs and Patrick Mahomes
at their place. I know the Texans. You know, I've
played some better football, but I'm still not quite so
that they're going to knock off the Chiefs would have
shocked me if they were able to beat them. No,
but this is my pick. And have some you know,
(01:52:09):
let's say concrete resolve that they win a narrow game.
Give me the Chiefs twenty four to twenty one. They
went on a field goal, And.
Speaker 2 (01:52:19):
I said earlier and it's I said, first team to
twenty four wins a game, And I'm with you one
hundred percent, and I done. I like the Chiefs in
this one as well, and we'll talk about that a
little later on the show. Great stuff. And with that,
I think the Texans are going to have to play
their best offensive game of the year to win this
football game. Aaron, we'll talk to you next week. Enjoy it, brother,
and no, we're at the greatest time of football and
(01:52:40):
I can't wait to see it. And we'll talk to
you next week. Merry Christmas, brother, you too. Thank you.
That's Aeron Wilson. Always great to have him. I'll come
back and discuss it at a lot to you know,
soak in about what they're going to do. But you
have to be creative. It's a great point by him.

Speaker 2 (01:53:07):
Mister Grinch, Okay, no, never heard it. No, never heard it? Man, Really, yes,
I've heard it. I'm ready for a new automobile, are
you I just got one?
Speaker 12 (01:53:19):
No?
Speaker 8 (01:53:19):
Be for yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:53:20):
Oh yeah, yeah. We're just where we're just letting somebody
know we're so grateful to be in your rig. Yeah.
I can't wait. I just figured that was all. I
just want to let you know that I mean you
were Ford guys, so oh I could be another guy too.
Speaker 8 (01:53:36):
I like it.
Speaker 2 (01:53:36):
I like Chevy Razel, very bad Chevy or no it's not.
I know what I paid for, but I know it all.
Speaker 3 (01:53:43):
Ye.
Speaker 2 (01:53:44):
If it's a Fred Flint snowmobile, I'm in. I'm not
too proud to beg there you go, Jee Now that'd
be nice. Yeah yeah, Dodge. Yeah, not to be confused
with Dodge Salisbury. Thank you and good night. What about you?
Back to what Aaron Wilson was saying, and he agrees
(01:54:05):
with us, not that he didn't agree with it, but
he had his own thoughts beforehand. But we agree. We're
on the same page of creating opportunity. It doesn't mean
it has to be twelve of them. But okay, when
people say, well, can't you throw it to him all
the time? And right, yeah, meaning Dell because they want
him more involved and it'll help because it will make
Nico Collins job easier. But it's not always throw via
(01:54:28):
the pass that you have to get the guy the
ball down the field. They know this, they're not dumb.
Bobby Slope knows football. But you can also and it
doesn't mean if you line him up, dude, listen. You
can line up him in the backfield as an eyeback
in a pistol and throw him a swing route. You
can have him check down and get up the scene.
I can hand him the ball. I can actually toss
(01:54:48):
sweep him with a lead motion, tight end double tight
end motion and get on the edge, just the old
school toss sweep with the guy with the ball in
his hand. It's tougher to tackle than a two hundred
and thirty pounder because you can't find him, so you
don't to have to throw it to get him the
ball in space, and if you do, it doesn't have
to be in the air long distances because I can't
remember the last time Tank Dell vertically ran by somebody
(01:55:09):
and we threw it to him on a deep go route.
He makes a big plays. It's like a crossing route,
a deep over something that allows him to get the
ball in space and go. So let's utilize it. Doesn't
mean you need twenty plays, three five change up pitch
and three plays alone with a guy lined up there
can have a defensive coordinat said, what are we gonna do?
(01:55:29):
We got to defend this. We didn't work on this.
I would use him as a cliff Notes version of
Deebo Samuel. You're not going to get the inside run threat,
but you can still have the run threat because a
toss sweeps the same as throwing the guy a curl.
It's just he's more space and his eyes are downfield
as opposed with his back to the coverage coming back
to the quarterback. I just it's not hard to get
(01:55:51):
a guy the ball. When I say this is not gentle.
When we had our guy on, I think it was
Andy who was talking about, Oh, just easy to get
it in space. It's not that, but it is easy
to get in ball with Andy when I do it
in the way we're talking about, and then guess what
happens the fantastic shift. Now I can get him in
the slot and run a little wiggle with him, have
him run a push off option route, get him on
the bender, all those things that will make him better.
(01:56:13):
The ball needs to be in his hands soon. Well,
you're not the same offense. I think the frustrating part
were drafted. His asked, yeah, he was the best route
runner in the draft that year.
Speaker 5 (01:56:22):
I think the most frustrating part for me listening to
the interview and what Aaron Wilson had to say is
he asked Bobby Slowk about Tank Dell and the usage
and creativity and so forth and so on, and they said, oh, yeah,
we did this one play and we liked the production
out of it. And then Aaron Wilson said to you, okay,
so do it again. So they talk about one play,
but yet they don't do it again. What are why
(01:56:45):
what are you doing? Do it again more often?
Speaker 2 (01:56:48):
But I told you about we were the NFL for
the most part. Now, not the Andy Reids.
Speaker 8 (01:56:53):
Who are you?
Speaker 2 (01:56:54):
But I'm talking about guys who are still on their
climb as coordinators and some that have been in the
league a long time. You know what they do? They don't.
I don't understand why we're afraid to run some place
that we're already successful.
Speaker 8 (01:57:03):
You can't.
Speaker 2 (01:57:04):
You don't only have to run it once. We run inside.
People will run inside zone twenty four times in a game.
So if you run a certain screenplay and it's successful,
dress it up with a different formation, run the same play.
I don't know why if it's successful until they prove
to me they can stop it, Why the hell would
I quit running it? Yeah, that's that play. You run
(01:57:24):
a one time? What is that going to do? The
great teams I know execute about twelve passes in about
five runs, and they make it look like it's sixty
different plays. And I promise you you can do that
and win a lot of football games.
Speaker 5 (01:57:35):
Yeah, let's get into the nine o'clock hour. We got
to dig into college football. The college football playoffs to

Speaker 8 (01:58:54):
Hey, guys, how y'all doing this morning? Very well?
Speaker 2 (01:58:58):
Very good? How are you all right?
Speaker 17 (01:59:00):
Man?
Speaker 8 (01:59:00):
I know you'll been asked that about one hundred times
this morning.
Speaker 2 (01:59:04):
Always always good, always good, right right, all.
Speaker 8 (01:59:09):
Right, man, I got a question about formations. Okay. Well,
I was listening to y'all earlier in your and they
were talking about.
Speaker 18 (01:59:14):
The strong interior of the of the chiefs all right,
on the on the defense there. You know, why are
teams in the NFL getting away from running the eye formation,
you know, or having a fullback period?
Speaker 8 (01:59:26):
You know what I'm saying?
Speaker 18 (01:59:26):
I mean usually, I mean I remember back in the
Christian Employee days, man, that that would be his lead off.
Speaker 2 (01:59:32):
You know what I'm saying, Well, that's that was Darryl
Johnson and Emmitt Smith.
Speaker 17 (01:59:36):
That was all.
Speaker 2 (01:59:37):
I mean, the great backs with Lorenzo O'Neil. I think
he blocked for Jamal Lewis at one point. The teams
I was on, I mean the Rick Fenny's that we
had beasts at fullback. I think that they've got to
the point with the roster, honestly, and I don't like it.
Kyle Yustcheck look what he's done in San Francisco, and
most runners I know love working out of eye formation.
(01:59:58):
It gives you an extra extra body if you can
cut them cut off. But we've created this, and look
at the way the trend of offense spread them out.
Single back in the backfield, three wides, a moved tight interage.
What they've done is take a backup tight end who
can move, and you can line them up and you'll
either motion him out of the backfield. They've basically said
(02:00:18):
a full back roster spot, we're going to save for
another tight end. And it's okay, But if you're not
going to line him up in the eye and have
him lead up on an ISO play on the linebacker,
if you're not going to have him run, stretch and
get out on the edge first man that shows up
outside and you spring him, I don't know. Now. I
don't mind change up. I love versatility. I'm a big
formation in motion and shift guy because you can create
(02:00:41):
deception with the same people lined up in different areas,
and these are pros getting your playbook and do it,
move them around and still run different combinations of the
same plays you run, just dressed up different. I always
wanted to look chaotic for the defense, but simple for us,
and I don't. That's the only reason. You know, you're
paying them a full back a million, while we'll pay
any tight in. And we got away with all these
(02:01:02):
spread offense away from well what hardball still does line
up with the guy in the backfield and pound you downhill.
I don't think you can live there all the time,
but I do think there's a place. I just don't know.
And if you want to wear out a clock for
a minute, drill that big fullback in that tailback and
you're running, and you keep wearing it out and getting
the edge and pounding it has it it takes its
(02:01:22):
body blow toll. I mean toll for defenses. So yeah,
you're you're one hundred percent correct. I don't know, and
I we're in a cyclical world, especially in pro sports.
At some point in time, they're going to get back
to You're going to get a guy who thinks I
think this way. I love explosive attack, play fast temple offenses.
(02:01:43):
But I also love depending on who the opponent is,
today's the day you're going to get punched in the
ribs four thousand times. And I'm a big full back
guy on my roster because it just gives me a
sense of confidence when I'm leading up on him and
you can physically pound somebody into submission. So I think
we've gotten into this. Oh, colleges and high schools. Every
when's a lot of how often do you see the
(02:02:03):
I formation in high school anymore? You don't, So they're
teaching it. So we're just doing it and assuming well
everybody's doing it. Well, you know what, somebody's going to
make the shift back to six eight ten. We're getting
under center more than we have the last half a
dozen years. Used to be all centered once in a while,
gun then it's all gunn some cent. But you see Buffalo.
They're getting under it because it gives a quarterback and
(02:02:24):
running game a little more versatility with a tight end
in the backfield or a big you know, an extra
offensive lineman. So I think that, like analytics and feel,
we need spread out offenses. But you're damn right, I'll
never ever quit loving having a fullback on my roster.
I won't and I think you need it because I
think it sends a physical message and I think it's important.
Speaker 18 (02:02:45):
All right, man, Well, hey, I got one more question
for you, But whatever happened with Christian nakoy a man?
And I'll hang up and listen because I know y'all
got people to get to.
Speaker 8 (02:02:53):
Man, and y'all have a.
Speaker 2 (02:02:54):
Merry Christmas YouTube, brother, Merry Christmas, dude. Christian's doing great.
He spends a lot of time in California, I know it,
goes on events in golf tour. He just you know,
he's playing the He does a lot of appearances for
companies and plays golf. We have a group of guys
that he goes and plays golf with. But he's he's
one of the kindest, best people I know and just
a great dude. But he also when he was on
(02:03:15):
the field, he was a frigging monster. You want to
talk about, tough to tackle man. And they'd have him
in very word, won two punch. They'd run that outside
stretch play and inside gut play with him, and then
they they would wear and Steve de Berg doing stretch handoff.
They would wear you out and you were beat down
as a defense no matter how good you were, because
they didn't they didn't know what the sidelines looked like.
(02:03:37):
They were running downhill. So he's doing great, Thanks for asking,
and uh, one of the one of the good people
on the planet. And you know, when you stand next
to him, you're saying, well, no wonder I handed it
off to him. Yeah, and running with an with attitude
and anger, but a nice hell of a nice guys.
Talk to Richard before we get to break Richard, good morning, Hey.
Speaker 11 (02:03:57):
Good morning, Hey Sean. One thing that just said. I
was not thinking I was going to call in so
sorry about you know, eating up your phone lines here,
and you were talking. You were talking about, you know,
why don't coaches keep running plays now that work? And
(02:04:18):
immediately my brain went to at least two examples. One
was my favorite coach of all time, Joe Gibbs. Do
you remember the counter tray? You remember that in the
Super Bowl, Joe Gibbs ran the count. Joe Gibbs ran
the countertray in that game thirty four times. Timmy Smith
(02:04:39):
ran for two hundred and eighteen yards. Never heard from
him again. But Joe just just cramped Broncos by the
throat and said, until you stop this, we're running it.
So the countertray showed up thirty four times for two
hundred and eighteen yards. That's one second one is actually
(02:04:59):
doing for you were talking about window drafting, and this
is not me. This is coming straight from Mike Singletary.
I've heard him say it a couple times. But the
eighty five Bears forty six defense only had four sets,
but he had more than sixty looks, so nobody could
(02:05:20):
figure it out. But it was the same thing.
Speaker 8 (02:05:23):
It was.
Speaker 11 (02:05:24):
It was a total of four different packages, but he
put sixty different looks on it. And I guess the
all time probably example of you go run this until
it works is Vince Lombardi with the Packers Sweep. You know,
and John Madden will tell you he went to a
(02:05:44):
conference one time when he was young with Vince Flimbardi
and Vin FLIMBARTI spent four hours talking about one play,
about the nuances of the Packer sweep, how it was run,
the looks you could put on, and who stopped that. Nobody?
Speaker 2 (02:06:02):
Yep, great point, Richard, and thank you for the call,
and Mary Christmas. All three points real quick. That that
sweet play that did Lombardi and Jim Taylor and Paul
Horning and made famous and Jerry Kramer and getting guys
on the edge bart Stars teams. We ran that my
freshman year in college student body right, which everybody talks
about USC student body right, student by left. We could
(02:06:23):
tell you we run it with Marcus out in the backfield.
Nobody ran it. We were the Packers version in the NFL.
I mean, in college. We ran it as good as anybody.
And that was first back to run for over two
thousand dard and we wore your ass out on the
edge with a lead full back running the same play
over and over and over again. We just dressed it
up motion, seal off the backside, run line lineup and
(02:06:44):
trips and run that way, get on a wing and
run that way. We just dressed it up, ran it
twenty five times a game and guess what. And then
when they started a stretch we caught it. Had a
play called twenty six flip. We'd take one step, look
like we were running student Body right, which is a
sweet the Packers run boom. Marcus was putting foot in
a hit the six hole instead of the eight hole
and take it to the house seventy five yards on
the opening snap against Tennessee because they were expecting student body, right,
(02:07:07):
we just dressed it up and made it look different.
And as far as the defense goes, I played against
the forty six defense and the Bears, and they lined
up and they executed it without with that and they
and nobody executed it better. They lined up and they
had great personnel, and they gave you different looks and
that's all they had to run. But they'd play zone
out of it. They'd play man. They made it miserable
and you'd get hit time and time again. And then
(02:07:29):
your first one about what offense did he suggest? What
was he saying the offense? Who do he say? His
favorite coach was offensively? Gave me three examples. One was
the offer. What was his first point? Gosh, because I
had a oh Joe Gibbs. Oh yeah, well we got
beat by Joe Gibbs in a playoff year he went
to Super Bowl. Yeah, so we and we had an
(02:07:51):
offensive coach that came to us, we hired from Washington.
We ran it and here you know, we ran run
comebacks on the outside, run digs and posts, we ran
countertray and we ran run past sixty count. We opened
up against the Redskins at the time in Minnesota, and
we ran run past sixty counter ex post. Chris Carter
ran the deep post his first play of the game, boom,
(02:08:12):
come off play action, run sixty counter, the same thing.
We had the exact same offensive Redskins at fake sixty counter.
I hit Chris for about a fifty or sixty yard
game down the middle of field. The safety sat down
exactly how you want to execute it. We ran eighty
five dodgs. We ran what we called gut check with
me and outside and sixty outside, seventy outside check with me,
and we'd run it thirty times. And they did the
(02:08:33):
same thing.
Speaker 8 (02:08:34):
Now.
Speaker 2 (02:08:34):
They executed the Super Bowl perfection because they had the
big backs and Ernest Biner. But they would line up Bill,
Bill Walsh, Joe Gibbs, Jimmy Johnson's North Turner teams. They
would dress everything up and run. They may have four
hundred places in their library, run about twenty of them
passes and runs combined with about sixty different looks, and
you couldn't figure it out. And not a bad thing
(02:08:55):
they have. Players didn't know how to execute it. Yeah,
on both So in all three cases, what felt basic
to you on the offense looked hellified for the other
side of the football. And the Redskins were believed in
wearing you out physically, and then just when you thought
it was safe, you'd come down and put an eighth
guy in the box and they'd play action stretch at you,
and then boom post over the top for a touchdown.
(02:09:17):
That's how they destroyed you. And they'd move the pocket
with ripping and he'd get out and they'd set it
up and they'd run double move, comeback like we did.
And it was always sitting there contact. We ran their
offense two at exact same verbiage, and you didn't need much.
You just needed to execute it. Yeah. So what it's
all about at the end of the day, man execute
yeplay play calls. It can only go so far if
(02:09:37):
Jimmies or Joe's. Jimmy's and Joe's matter far more. Jimmy's
and Joe's matter far more than now. If you got both,
then you got the Kansas City Chiefs, you got a
Super Bowl. Yep.
Speaker 5 (02:09:47):
Let's get to break seven one, three, two, two, five, seven,
ninety will continue to take your calls, and let's talk
about some college football as playoffs start tonight.
Speaker 2 (02:09:54):
That's next. Hey, this holiday, give them what they really want.
Give holiday scratch tickets from the text Lottery. They're the
perfect gift, and you could be giving follow la la la, la,
la la la lots of cash. Right, So give holiday
scratch tickets from the Texas Lottery and you could make
very holiday very merry. It's a good gift to give, right,
there's some coin, there's a chance of some big cash
(02:10:17):
and a happy feeling on the Texas Lottery. It's the
perfect gift. Give those holiday scratch tickets from the Texas
Lottery and make their holiday very special. That's the Texas Lottery.
Speaker 3 (02:10:29):
The Jean Salisbury Show continues.
Speaker 2 (02:10:32):
Biscuit, how are we feeling?
Speaker 13 (02:10:35):
There's a you damn skippy my brother, Yes, sir, Notre Dame,
how you shot? And for I get the Notre Dame.
How you shot is what you talked about shot. It's
amazing to me. Oh, a lot of teams. It's not
so much the play is the execution. It's just crazy
(02:10:58):
how that teams away from certain plays and when those fights.
The dude talked about counters and traps. Why they don't
run those anymore because if you got a Thievens lineman
that's getting up the field and you know, trying to
come get the quarterback all the time, it seemed like
the thing would be is just counters and track.
Speaker 2 (02:11:20):
Yeah, let him get up the field and trap him,
push him by and give yourself, let him run, let
him run himself out of the play. Hence made the
Pittsburgh Steelers inside trap with the Franco and Rocky Byer
and over all the years they've been coaching it, which
made teams that I mean trap plays and down at
the goal line people trap. It's just a simple Oakie
(02:11:42):
doc and set up because you're looking at Tennessee's right
guard goes, oh, he's pulling, I'm gonna follow hi, And
then all of a sudden you turn back and get
an ear hold by a guy who's cracking back or
trapping you in the hole. And then the guy waltz
is in from four yards. There is no doubt.
Speaker 3 (02:11:56):
I don't know why.
Speaker 2 (02:11:57):
Just because some others aren't doing it doesn't mean your
personnel can't. It's all about teaching it and then go
in and execute it. But it's hard to execute it
if you don't teach it or not running it Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday,
Friday and Saturday, right. And I don't know why teams
have gotten away from this, especially at a time when
these offensive linemen are more athletic. I mean they're moving,
(02:12:20):
they run, We expect them to get on the edge.
They got great feet and pass protection. You're telling me
you can't trap with Penny Sewel in Detroit. A matter
of fact, you hand him the damn football even though
he's a tackle. There's ways hell I can switch him
be so athletic. Stick him at the wing part, you know,
at the four yard line, have him trap down, have
the center step away, and bam. We call it a
(02:12:41):
wham block. We would just wham down at the goal line.
We'd wham down at the goal line boom. And at
full back or tailback, you lead up on the full
back who hits Mike in the mouth, and tailback walks
in even inside the red zone or inside the five,
and you're not getting touched on a wamblock, and you're
supposed to get touched inside the red zone and sureyard
goal line. I don't get why everything. Now, Oh, they're
spread it out, so we got to You can spread
(02:13:02):
it out, but I can still line up and trap
you and wham blocking in the red zone and do
some things with my athletic people that create space for me.
Everything doesn't have to be the same because somebody else
is doing it.
Speaker 13 (02:13:14):
I don't understand. It just seemed like all you got
now is the zone blocking schemes instead of, like you say,
the counters and the traps. Many Maybe it's because I
know that Diva's a lineman. Like the Diva's the tackle
is running four three's now, and they so big. Maybe
that's all they I could think of.
Speaker 2 (02:13:32):
Tackles are so you know, right, Okay, think about this biscuit.
Let's take like a guy who is like a Lawrence Taylor.
I'm just using that, or now like a Michael Parsons. Right,
what are they? They're so athletic and they run right.
Those guys sidelined the sideline can chase down running backs.
Junior Seau when I was his teammate in San Diego,
and when you played against Junior, those guys like that,
(02:13:53):
we just named a handful of them. You know what
you used to do? You use their aggressiveness again their
athleticism against them, so we do. When we played a
guy like that, you knew could control a game. The
best way to run into Lawrence, to take care of
Lawrence Taylor was to get his legs and run at
him right, not away from him, because he's chasing everything down.
So once that happened and they got other good players,
we'd also misdirection them. So you let them get to
(02:14:16):
chase and stretch, play naked boot shallow cross over route
because they want to tackle and chase everything. Junior wanted
to tackle everything. So the best way we did it
we took his great athleticism and ability. When you played
against Jior, now when I was on the team with him,
was fun to watch, but you'd take that athleticism and say,
all right, let's let him play into his athleticism. He's
gonna chase, Chase, Chase. Let's show him chase Chase Chase
(02:14:39):
plays and then run jet sweep out a fake at
a fake sixty outside and we give it, you know,
a z reverse. We could just jet sweet left, so
just a little action to keep him oh my gosh,
or toss it right and rehand off or fake toss
right and come back with a counter, you know, fake toss,
encounter and give it somebody else. So you wanted to
use and then you wanted to get him chasing. In
(02:14:59):
the bootleg game, he'd run down, try to get the
guy on outside zone, and then he'd bootleg and then
you'd get outside contained because he was so aggressive, he
wanted to tackle everything. That's what you got to do
against teams like that. And if you're playing a two
gap team where a guy's just hitting me and hanging
around the line of scrimmage, well you don't run in there.
It's too muddied. You use that against him, make them chase.
(02:15:19):
You see what I'm saying. I don't get amissed either.
And I know we get so caught up. We lacked
the offense and spread out, but every now and then
you can still look, oh my gosh, they're a wide
open running. Stuff like that traps the Pittsburgh Steelers want
a lot of Super Bowls doing that. I don't know
why we get away from that stuff.
Speaker 13 (02:15:36):
Yes, her a sign. I looked it up and I'll
talk triply about it. Nineteen ninety one, last time you
played Notre Dame of Football.
Speaker 2 (02:15:45):
Yeah, brought up earlier too. Exactly.
Speaker 13 (02:15:48):
I talked to my cousin, what's the issue? Because Notre
Dame has played for dude right more. It just seemed
like they didn't. And it remind me of remember back
in the day, in the late eighties or whatever, and
Kentucky and Louisville would never play each other in basketball,
and the committee got together, Oh look at there in
the NCAA tournament. Look at it there. If Kentucky win
(02:16:11):
and Louisville win, guess what, they gotta play each other?
Speaker 2 (02:16:15):
And why the hell you wouldn't want those Yeah, why
in the hell you wouldn't want those two playing a
couple times a years beyond me? You know what I'm saying.
I just don't get it. That's basketball mecca, you know
those two together. I just don't get it.
Speaker 8 (02:16:27):
Man.
Speaker 13 (02:16:27):
Crazy word on the street is upset, uh word on
the street. And then then I talked with some piece
of classmates. They see upset coming, man, They think Notre
Dame is overrated.
Speaker 2 (02:16:39):
And you know what, I wouldn't bet this game for
that very reason because I think Indiana can win it.
And if you're better, I mean, while I like Notre Dame,
I think this sets up for whatever your whatever the
word on the streets saying biscuit. I don't think they're
far off. I think we're in for one of those
type games.
Speaker 8 (02:16:53):
I do.
Speaker 2 (02:16:53):
I don't think any team's blowing anybody out in this one.
And I think Indiana will have a plan and they're
pretty damn their quarterbacks accurate. It's gonna be fun to watch.
Speaker 13 (02:17:02):
Yes, sir, I'm getting I'm getting my popcorn ready.
Speaker 2 (02:17:05):
You get it ready, brother, and enjoy and good on you.
I know we got a bunch of Notre Dame guys,
and I'm rooting for all our guys to have success.
But man, how can you not root for somewhat of
an underdog story. But Notre Dame will be ready, but
Indiana's gonna get them all they can handle tonight. I
think I can't wait to see a biscuit. Thanks, brother,
appreciate it. Have a good one.
Speaker 5 (02:17:20):
Let's look at some of these matchups in the college
football playoffs next right here on The Shawn Salisbury Show.
Speaker 2 (02:17:26):
The Shawn Salisbury Show continued, she might have been there.
You know, when you can either confirm nor tony, it's
basically saying you don't have a clue, So I'm not
going to tell you she might have been there. She
might have Well, why would you wri in a good
Christmas song by putting her a Diddy park? You said
it was overrated? I was joking. Nah no, yeah, I
like to cut it's not my favorite Christmas songs during
(02:17:49):
this time. And and she's you know, she's a star.
Speaker 5 (02:17:51):
B WYLDB takes a whole different meaning when you go
to a Diddy party. Uh yeah, bring your own baby.
Speaker 2 (02:18:00):
Among other things. What are the other things? I think
there was a lot of rod dog in there. Okay,
I think that's just the word on the street. Okay.
Like I said, I could.
Speaker 12 (02:18:14):
Either confirm, well, yeah, you get all this oil and
we want to do all this stuff. Hey, let's throw
out a condom. Sure they were okay, oh my gosh.
Speaker 11 (02:18:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:18:32):
If you're going to bring those names up the dog,
be prepared for what you're gonna get in return for
an answer. Get the hell out of here. What went
on there?
Speaker 20 (02:18:39):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (02:18:40):
Bring your own everything? Okay, Yeah, and they'll supply the drugs. Okay,
come on now, yeah those are a party eight. You're
exactly here here, you down go back the list if
you can do a redo. Here's the list of parties
you never want to go to them? Okay, yeah, I
(02:19:01):
needed a good laugh.
Speaker 5 (02:19:04):
Yeah, here we go, Gil, it's our favorite. He want
to talk about Mariah Carey. So I can only imagine, Yeah,
Gill little, turn your GPS off in.
Speaker 2 (02:19:22):
The background, especially if a guy who hasn't learned his
lesson four hundred times that he's called and still has
his radio and stuff on, and you're gonna come in yourself.
If she's overrated or isn't she she's a good singer,
bit overrated, over hyped a little bit in her heyday,
she was overrated a little bit. Anybody nobody could get
(02:19:45):
to get their their voice that high. Well, okay, so
just because you get a high voice, you overrated. Well,
you know what, You're not overrated. You get a high voice,
and Barry gives the best singer ever. Hey, don't hate
the don't hate thee Now I think, no, you know what,
I got the reaction I wanted, didn't I you call in? Okay,
(02:20:08):
I got it?
Speaker 20 (02:20:08):
Did I I mean?
Speaker 11 (02:20:10):
Did she didn't?
Speaker 17 (02:20:10):
She turned on like a hundred million dollar contract.
Speaker 2 (02:20:13):
She's good talented, But you know what, Okay, whose voice
is better hers or Christina Aguilera.
Speaker 17 (02:20:20):
Christina can sing like almost like a strong man's voice, soul. Right,
but but but but but who looks better?
Speaker 2 (02:20:27):
Okay? Who's better than better?
Speaker 17 (02:20:29):
Son?
Speaker 3 (02:20:30):
No?
Speaker 20 (02:20:30):
No, who looks better on the video?
Speaker 2 (02:20:33):
Who you talking about between Aguilera and Mariah Can in
their carey? Because because super super. But if we're talking
about she's not over she's a little overrated considering all
the pubs she got. I don't think she I think
she's a good singer and good but you can still
be overrated. I can still like it, right, Okay?
Speaker 8 (02:20:54):
How okay?
Speaker 17 (02:20:55):
I guess there when I give one hundred million dollar
contracts might not the.
Speaker 2 (02:20:59):
One this side a frigging paycheck, okay, Gil, And she
turned it down. Okay, Okay, well good, then she's got
plenty of money to be able to turn it down.
Doesn't mean that she can't be a little overrated. Okay, Hey, Gil, Gil,
I love you, and you're frigging overrated. Yeah, I'm hey, Gil.
Speaker 5 (02:21:18):
I gotta ask you what, Gil? I got to ask
you a question, man, I gotta ask you a question.
How long have you been here in the city, in Houston,
in the city, Yeah, because you worked on the Chronicle
three years. You worked for the Chronicle for what twenty
eight years?
Speaker 11 (02:21:35):
Right?
Speaker 20 (02:21:36):
Yes, sir?
Speaker 2 (02:21:37):
How long have you been an Astros fan?
Speaker 20 (02:21:41):
Just today my dad took me to the Astronaut Okay,
so so.
Speaker 2 (02:21:45):
How in the hell did you not know who Chandler
Rome is? The handler Rome?
Speaker 8 (02:21:52):
Dude?
Speaker 2 (02:21:52):
Gil? He was on with Matt Thomas yesterday and you
were like, hey, Sean, he Gil calls and.
Speaker 3 (02:21:58):
He goes, hey, who's the guy? It's up.
Speaker 5 (02:22:03):
Dude, Right, he's been covering the Astros for like a
decade covering them.
Speaker 6 (02:22:09):
I have not.
Speaker 7 (02:22:10):
I have not.
Speaker 17 (02:22:11):
I have not worked for the Chronicle in what seventeen years?
Speaker 5 (02:22:14):
You're missing the point if you if you follow the
Astros and you listen to radio, watch TV, anything Astros related.
Speaker 2 (02:22:20):
He's in a huge.
Speaker 7 (02:22:22):
Honest with y'all.
Speaker 17 (02:22:24):
When I listen to radio, that's why listen to you guys,
because I enjoy listening all.
Speaker 7 (02:22:29):
You know what.
Speaker 3 (02:22:31):
You're given that.
Speaker 2 (02:22:33):
I listened to the game. Let me backtrack, Yeah, let
me back You're not overrated. You're not, dude. Mariah Carrey
is the best singer ever, right, yeah.
Speaker 17 (02:22:46):
I mean finally you're coming my way over. Yah, yeah,
you have a good weekend. I think, I mean, I
hope the Texans. Oh, I know, I'll be sitting in
front of the TV at noon with a beer in
my hand.
Speaker 2 (02:22:57):
Yeah, and uh, I hope we kicked them. But yeah,
nothing appreciate all right, Gilbert, good to talk to you, brother.
We love you. We'll talk to you next week. Merry Christmas.
If you don't call in, he'll call in on Monday,
I hope. So see, I know how to get people.
She's overrated. I can still like him be overrated. Hell,
I love Yellowstone this past season overrated, see what I'm saying. Yeah,
(02:23:19):
I heard that. You feel sucked. Yeah, so don't say nothing.
Speaker 8 (02:23:24):
I'm one season you be.
Speaker 2 (02:23:25):
With Kevin Cox. Now I'm kidding you. See it only
gets worse tripleing. Yeah, I've heard, so I like it.
They just kind of went away from the story. Yeah,
I heard.
Speaker 6 (02:23:36):
I heard.
Speaker 5 (02:23:36):
What's the guy's name the Ripper? No Oh, Taylor Sherit,
Taylor Sheridan. Yeah, bad, bad look for whitey On.
Speaker 2 (02:23:43):
That kind of made it a look about him, But
he also made a look about himself. He did right right,
that's crazy. He's everything he touches turns to gold though
that's true, this new one's he got the right actor
to turn this one gold to Billy Bill Bob talk
to O g q Q. What's happening?
Speaker 6 (02:23:57):
What's going on? Bron is overrated? Man Sean yesterday? Man,
when you said about Christina Aguilera, Man, I've been a
fan of her so long.
Speaker 8 (02:24:10):
Not only can she sing, r be she's a.
Speaker 3 (02:24:13):
Great jazz singer.
Speaker 2 (02:24:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (02:24:14):
Anything DJ that.
Speaker 6 (02:24:17):
I grew up with named Don Sam and he that's
what he called the Blue Eyed Soul review.
Speaker 2 (02:24:23):
She's got some She got some range, doesn't she.
Speaker 4 (02:24:26):
Man?
Speaker 2 (02:24:26):
She sure does.
Speaker 6 (02:24:27):
Brother Maria, you know, and he and he would play
people like Christine Aguilera, Frank Sinatra, Michael McDonald's. You know,
you see a pattern of Barry Gibs. You know, people
who are white they had his soul in them. That
can you know, really appear everyone kind.
Speaker 2 (02:24:45):
Of like when you hear me sing white with a
lot of soul.
Speaker 6 (02:24:47):
You know what I'm saying, Hey, man, I got one
thing I want y'all to sin Biskey giving out the tips, say,
I you plus, Evan is a good bed and I
also like take this covering, so you know you want
to make some money, but O g Q giving you
(02:25:08):
those two picks there Texas to cover and I U
plus seven olive go ahead, shaw.
Speaker 2 (02:25:15):
I was going to see.
Speaker 6 (02:25:18):
All the football is gonna be on. Man, it's one
game that you you guys got to see that. I've
heard nobody talk about it. And it's in the high
school championships of sixth A for the last ten years.
If you didn't see North Shore or Duncanville, there's something's wrong.
Speaker 8 (02:25:35):
They usually end up playing each other.
Speaker 3 (02:25:36):
One of them is there.
Speaker 6 (02:25:38):
Well this year North Crowley come out of that side
and Deep Duncanville and the Soto side and west Lake
come out of the North North Shore side.
Speaker 2 (02:25:50):
There a few times, it's gonna be a great game breakdown.
Speaker 6 (02:25:54):
I remember seeing west Lake back when they had Drew
Brees and they went undefeated. And man, I think they
came up with Mick Foles is from west Lake also,
and they always there. They're traditional power. You know, you
would call them a blue blood and high school football.
West Lake is definitely tough and uh, you know, think
(02:26:14):
about watching that game. No Shore, I mean North Crowley and.
Speaker 2 (02:26:22):
Austin Westlake A.
Speaker 7 (02:26:24):
Yeah, well, you know I'm a mind shot at my head.
Speaker 6 (02:26:27):
No, I'm bowing.
Speaker 2 (02:26:29):
We appreciate it, brother, I have a great appreciate you.
Always appreciate you calling in man, and he's right. We
talked about this is a great high school football weekend. Two.
I'll tell you this. They've got me convinced. I told
you I wouldn't bet the Notre Dame Indiana game. If
it stays at seven and doesn't go down, I'm going
to get on that. I I don't see how Indiana's
not in this game in the end. Seven seems like
(02:26:49):
a lot. If you're giving me seven points, I got
to take that right now. It is Notre Dame minus
six and a half. See well now, now in Bob
that that hook on six and a half, and I'm
not getting hell I'd love seven and a half. Yeah,
I'd love seven and a half. But I don't tell
you something. Yeah, the sharp money starting to think that
maybe it's that Indiana has a legit shot. So I'm
(02:27:11):
going to consider that. When I was talked out of it,
my I talk myself out of it because I just
you know, in Indiana's first time there in a long time.
Will they be overwhelmed? I don't think they will be
because I think they're well coach, I'm still going to
consider that. I wish it jump back up, but went down,
just like I said. And here we're looking at six
and maybe I can find seven. Someone probably love to
have seven and a half.
Speaker 5 (02:27:28):
I think let's make some picks on these college football games.
Next on Sports Talk seven ninety, This is Sports.
Speaker 10 (02:27:35):
Talk seven ninety Home up the Rockets, Astros and the
best line up in Houston.
Speaker 3 (02:27:41):
Sports Now back to Sean Salisbury.
Speaker 2 (02:27:45):
You can go in there. Yeah you want what a
what a good plug? What a what a hunk? What
a plug? It's a good plug. He shameless, but I
love it?
Speaker 12 (02:27:54):
Why not?
Speaker 2 (02:27:55):
Hey, listen, get a boozy hot co coke boogie boozy.
B boozy means there's some booze in it type of thing. Correct, Yep? Yeah,
check that out. Man, Wow, I feel you. You ready
to make these picks? Yeah, big homie, Yep, let's do
this all right.
Speaker 5 (02:28:11):
Indiana at Notre Dame tonight, seven o'clock, South Bend, Indiana.
Notre Dame favored by six and a half. Give me
liberty or give me death. I'm gonna take the Hoosiers. Okay,
that's kind of an emotional pick and I don't hate
Notre Dame. I just think that Indian I'm gonna ride
that wave and think Indiana at least steals one of
the playoff.
Speaker 2 (02:28:28):
How's that?
Speaker 18 (02:28:29):
There?
Speaker 2 (02:28:29):
You go, and you guys are trying to validate because
you think Notre Dame's overrated. I do think Notre Dame's
overrated every single year.
Speaker 5 (02:28:34):
Then we're going to find out SMU at Penn State
tomorrow morning, eleven am. Kickoff at Beaver Stadium. Penn State
favored by eight and a half.
Speaker 2 (02:28:43):
Now that is going to be a to give me SMU.
Give me SMU, But I'm going to tell you what, man,
of all the places, that's a hard place. I love
that the home team gets games in this playoff, don't you?
Speaker 8 (02:28:54):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (02:28:54):
Better higher seed? I do. I think it's awesome and
that place is going to be rocking. Now the question
is will they be overwhelmed? Weather wise? Will they be overwhelmed?
SMU hasn't seen something like this, right, even though they're
in the new you know, in the conference study, they
haven't seen anything like this, this big ten Penn State
probably a wide out, which they usually have, right. I
(02:29:15):
don't know if they're going to have one tomorrow. But
Happy Valley's different. Man State College Pennsylvania one play, one
way in, one way out. This is going to take
an effort, But I'm going to tell you what. I
think their offense can keep up. And I think their
quarterback SMUs is dynamic. Give me Smu to keep it
closer than that school. Although Penn State's defense is nasty
and that tight end, you better control him in the game.
(02:29:36):
The dude got Heisman Trophy votes. Yeah, so you better
control him.
Speaker 8 (02:29:40):
All right.
Speaker 5 (02:29:40):
Let's look at Clemson at Texas. Three o'clock kickoff over
at dk R in Austin, Texas, Sean favored by twelve.
Speaker 11 (02:29:49):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (02:29:50):
Let's think about this, Clemson playing at Austin Late Austin
Westlake going to Dallas to play in their state final.
That's where Kate club Nick played. And I think he
was a state champion as well. I believe he's coming
back next year. I don't think he's like, yeah, I
think he's coming back. I actually think the Longhorns win
the game. I don't think it's a blowout. The long
(02:30:11):
Horns offense, to me, has got to pick up the
passing temple. Do you agree? I agree? Consistent with that,
I actually think Clemson's going to keep it closer than that.
Gimme Clemson, Texas. I mean the Longhorns to win a game,
but that's a lot of points to give away to
a Texans, to a Clemson team that's pretty damn good
and has been in some big games since Davilo's been there. Obviously,
I'm going to take Clemson to keep this closer. And
(02:30:33):
I think club Nickel play well in his in his
former well in his hometown, quen you Weres and Kate
club Nick played against each other in high school exactly.
I think in a playoff right leading to one of
those state championships, and that this also, I would expect
arch Manning with some more work in this game. I
would think with Steve Sarkisian and his h his play
calling is going to have add in a couple packages
(02:30:55):
for arch. Manning's feet are going to come into play
in this game.
Speaker 5 (02:30:58):
I bet you think if they get past Clemson, I
think you'll see more and more of Arch To be
honest with.
Speaker 2 (02:31:03):
You, you're getting him ready, yep.
Speaker 5 (02:31:04):
And then the nightcap Tennessee at Ohio State at the
Shoe in Columbus Ohio State favored by seven and a half.
Speaker 2 (02:31:13):
What's the points? Let me double check that over under
set at forty five and a half. Give me the
over in the game. Go and as far as a pick,
I'd take the over in the game. I guess I'll
take Ohio State at home, but I'm rooting for Tennessee
to make this. That's a lot of big spreads in
playoff games. They really are. I don't trust Ohio State
(02:31:36):
with that talent underachieving. Is that fair to say? Yes, yeah,
one hundred percent. I'd be hard pay. I think I
think I'd take Tennessee all the way around. Ohio State
probably gonna win a game, but in the betting world,
Tennessee seven and a half. Yes, that hook matters to me.
Gimme Clemson, but I would take the not Clemson, but
give me Tennessee. I would take the over in the
(02:31:56):
game over forty five.
Speaker 6 (02:31:58):
Cam.
Speaker 5 (02:31:58):
I just you know, I can't wait to listen and
Amina comes on the broadcast for these games.
Speaker 2 (02:32:03):
I know, and the Texans do you want that right now?
Speaker 5 (02:32:07):
We got Texas pick oh Texans and Chiefs. I'm sorry,
the that's mena Times is on Christmas.
Speaker 2 (02:32:12):
Yeah, Texans Chiefs.
Speaker 5 (02:32:14):
Yeah, Texans, Chiefs, let's check it out. Last I looked
the Texans. I want to say, they were getting three points.
Speaker 2 (02:32:22):
Give me the Chiefs by a touchdown.
Speaker 8 (02:32:24):
Here we go.
Speaker 2 (02:32:25):
It is three and a half. Now, yeah, I'm going
to say, like tex this is like twenty three, seventeen,
twenty one, thirteen. Give me the Texans, I mean the Chiefs,
and I would give I would give the points away.
I think that the Chiefs are going to cover triple
Texans or Chiefs. So you got give me the Texans. Man,
we're making a statement tomorrow. What about you Chiefs? Chiefs
(02:32:51):
by six? What's the other game? The Chiefs? What You've
got another game tomorrow? NFL game. We got one more,
don't we. Baltimore and it's Baltimore and Pittsburgh.
Speaker 5 (02:33:00):
Yep, Pittsburgh at Baltimore, three thirty kickoff, Baltimore favored by
six and a half.
Speaker 2 (02:33:05):
Give me Pittsburgh. Baltimore wins the game. Pittsburgh Field Gold
game late there you go, Yeah, Field Gold game. That's
gonna do it. Now. I'm gonna go bet them all
and then throw a parley for funnel, gonna see what happens. Yeah,
I mean I'm gonna call somebody in Vegas to do
that far allegedly, yeah, allegedly it could either confer nor
