Speaker 2 (00:08):
Sean Salisbury to usc troupe, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury, Dan matthewscuse,
this is the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 1 (00:23):
Laura les it by two.
Speaker 3 (00:25):
You ain't gonna go Usa, give it up, Crier six seconds,
five seconds?
Speaker 1 (00:30):
Sure you want? You can't touch it.
Speaker 4 (00:33):
He can't.
Speaker 5 (00:40):
Let's keep.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
Hi. It's a great da.
Speaker 1 (00:46):
Big here they were the time two one hit sharply
up the battle and throw fay chef d the store bore.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
That's the pony around thirty scores as well. Poor hey
PLoP with the go ahead two runs single and the
Barriners are back on top four to three. A slider
that bread.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
You left up.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
This is the worst.
Speaker 6 (01:11):
Yes it is, Michael Scott, Yes it is. And with
that we say good morning here on this Sean Salisbury Show.
Dan Matthews, Sean Salisbury, triple e.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
Emmanuel Elmore. I mean, Hugh rough one man, just one
for just as good as the day was Saturday, just
as bad as it was last night.
Speaker 6 (01:32):
Unfortunately, that's sports man. I mean, I understand that you
know we're all looking France was this morning. I'm sure
that probably some of you need a shoulder. Some of
you need someone who try to yell at although I'm
just gonna be honest with you, Sean, I ain't the
one to try today. I ain't the one to try today.
If you want to, you know, get upset about what
(01:53):
happened in the game or games plural as you just heard.
I mean you of h losing last night sixty five,
sixty three to four in the National title game. The
Astros give up a lead in the eighth and lose
four to three to the Mariners. At least the Rockets
were off last night.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
So yeah, I mean, but our job. They're gonna question it.
They better be okay to get at you, because when
you go two possessions at the end and four balls
and two other possessions at the end, they're gonna have
to at you. Because they left the National Championship sitting
on the table. I feel awful. I was miserable and
(02:31):
sick to my stomach for coach Sampson and the kids.
I feel bad, horrible for Sharp. It is sports, but
why why did it happen? That's that's where our job
is to get to the whys and how it happened.
The same things that they did to Duke on Saturday,
had done to them, and it's one of the first
times I've seen a team match their intensity, their grind,
(02:54):
their physicality, had them right where they want them down halftime.
I would have never bet a dime the fact that
you could literally shut down Clayton Junior. I'm talking about
destroy him for the most of the game. Didn't have
point first half, and he's still lost. The other body said,
(03:15):
I just went into another show I was doing yesterday,
and this one was Clayton doesn't dominate the game. You
take him out or Jay Wright say it just like
we talked about yesterday. Did you make sure he doesn't
beat you? And he did not beat them. Made some
passes and got some points in the second half, made
a few free throws, but they controlled him and they
still got beat And I'm still sitting here wondering where
(03:38):
did it? How did it go wrong? The lead got
up to I mean it was the double digits, and
they had to control of the game, and Florida hung around,
and then the second half hit and I'm like, what happened?
And then you start rolling over the possessions. They dominated
him on the offensive glass double digits on the backboards
(03:58):
offensively for Houston, and it just every possession. I know,
it's so cheesy a line. Every possession matters, and the
last two possessions. You can't against a team like that
that loves second half challenges, you can't. You can't give
possessions away. And I'm telling you Sharp played phenomenal defense yesterday.
(04:19):
He made some clutch plays in the game. It's just
that he made two bad decisions on the last two series,
last two trips on the floor, and he dribbled when
he shouldn't have. They over dribble into traffic and then
was fooled on the attempted block and obviously the travel
caller what would have been a travel call on the
turnover it was. He's going to be sick forever. I mean,
(04:42):
he'll never forget it. And he was such an integral
part of the team getting there.
Speaker 7 (04:47):
Now.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
I'm not going to bash him because we've all been
in those situations, whatever level it is, maybe not in
front of a world class audience all over the place watching,
but he's gonna he'll never forget it. We see this
happen in sports, the hero that never forgets it for
that reason, and the other one who has a hard time.
I mean, he's a great kid, but he'll always every
time this tournament comes around because he played really good basketball,
(05:11):
and I'm telling you, without him, they don't get through
the tournament. He had knocked down some shots in certain
games to get him there, and he played a good ballgame.
It's just it. It's like I always say it when
the quarterbacks say, man, I threw for three hundred and
ninety yards or four hundred and fifty yards. How the
last posession, while I threw a turno, turn it over
and fumbled the last two possessions, nobody remembers the five
hundred yards he threw four in the three touchdowns in
(05:32):
the first half. So I feel horrible for him. It
was great. I know we're all going to say a
great season, but it still didn't get to the point
where coach Sampson wanted it. I'm flabbering. I'm more baffled
by this than I am by what happened to Duke
in the Duke game. Maybe it's because of who won,
how it was flipped into Houston tournament. I am more
(05:55):
baffled because it was in the first half they were
no threat Florida was just kind of floundering around and
they were getting dominated. But they did what Florida does
better than anybody in America, chip away at you in
the second half, and anybody who slept good last night
either were drunk or you didn't pay attention to the game.
(06:17):
Because I woke up this morning thinking how bad I
felt for Sharp, how bad I felt for for Roberts,
the Roberts, for all of them, and for coach Sampson,
the effort they put in. But I'm sure Florida fans
would have felt the same way. The game was under control,
and it just it was. And it was a slow
one to second half, just kind of point here, three pointer, here,
(06:41):
miss free throw, there, a kick out of bounds. Here,
crier going baseline gets knocked up and flies. I mean,
it was baffling and I am still baffling. Congratulations to Florida.
They got beat by a good team, did Houston. But
I can tell you this, when people ask the question
if you get beat by thirty or get beat like that,
(07:02):
they get beat by thirty because it was sent allowed message.
It just wasn't your day, right. They had the lead
for every time of the entire game. But forty six seconds.
Forty six seconds, and that was late in the game.
Forty six seconds is all Florida led the basketball game,
and they still won.
Speaker 6 (07:24):
I mean in everything you just talked about too with
you of h I mean, offensively last night they were
thirty five percent in the field. They made six three pointers,
and you also missed five free throws, including what was
it two of the technical fouls that you went one
of two on at the line, I mean missed one
of those free right, So I mean you've got that
(07:46):
and look, I mean you want to talk about Crier.
That's where things kind of changed. And Kelvin Samson even
talked about after the game.
Speaker 1 (07:54):
They took him away.
Speaker 6 (07:55):
They took him off the three point line. They said,
if you want to beat us, you're gonna have to
go inside. We've got the length and we're not in
foul trouble like you are, at least across the board.
And I mean you lose Tuggler, that hurts you down low.
And I mean, you know, I understand that people are
gonna want to talk about the refs and the second half, Sean,
where you had what four foul calls in the first
(08:15):
half and then in the second half, it was the
ref saying, all right, I was seeing enough physicality, we're
gonna start calling it.
Speaker 1 (08:20):
Yeah. But one one thing, I don't think we have
much complaint here.
Speaker 7 (08:23):
Now.
Speaker 1 (08:23):
You'd like consistency, you'd like a red's like an outpire.
If you're a high strike zone guy, I've never understood
that anyway. If it's a strike, it's a strike. If
it's a ball, it's a ball. And hence the electronic
talk we have. But when we used to back in
the day, when you were young, that it was like
American leagumpires like slow it was one like low strikes,
the other like high strikes. Like the strike zone is
(08:44):
a strike zone. It's the same thing here. I don't
ever believe in, oh, let them play. If it's a foul,
it's a foul. If it's a physically, if you can
be physical without fouling and hacking, let him go. And
I understand we like I think it's absurd and actually
stupid when I see somebody on social media or somebody
(09:04):
go say, well, you can't call it. You got to
let him play in the end. So if it's not
a foul for three a half, but it is a
foul at the end. And I understand what people are
saying to me. A foules a foul. Sometimes they miss him.
But it doesn't matter. My strike zone can't change on
the ninth inning from the first inning. It should not change.
And it's the same here. A foul in the first
(09:25):
two minutes should be treated the same way in the
last two minutes. And when people say, oh, you can't
call that, well, you can call it if a guy
slaps his wrist and it's a foul. Now if you're
talking about the one that you know Cooper Flag was
involved in. In that where it's a judgment, you can't.
There's no HiT's kind of like, I don't know man,
physical body. I get where that argument comes in. But
(09:48):
a foul at the rim, you know, diving on the
floor and landing on some guy when he just a
fouls a foul. The inconsistency of what you allow physically
and which not. If you're calling that's foul. That should
have been called a foul in the first half, but
you called it. You didn't call it the second half,
and it should have been called a foul. Now I
got a problem. But the old you gotta let them play. Well,
(10:09):
I let him play until they foul. If I'm shoot
a three pointer and you hit my elbow, it's a foul.
I'm not gonna let you play through that. It's a foul.
I'm not gonna call you both diving on the floor
at the same time, shoulder to shoulder, bumping. I'm not
calling a foul. That's just I mean, let them you
let them play with there's no foul. That's why I've
always went, well, you gotta let him play. No, I
just want consistent reffing. If there's a foul call it
(10:31):
if there isn't let him play. Or if it's close
air on the side of if it's not blatant or
not affecting that part of the game like out on
the top of the circle, got let go play. But
if it's foul grabs, tugs, jumps on bodies at the rim,
it's a foul. Houston Texans, I mean Houston Cougar fans,
(10:52):
we don't have an argument. They had what the coops
had four fouls and we were in the second half total. Yeah,
there's no argument.
Speaker 7 (10:59):
Man.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
This game was not lost because they missed a foul call.
Just like I mean everybody if Duke's bitching, not a
person alive in this city is saying hell. They're all
saying it was a foul, and everybody at Duke and
Raleigh Durham saying, nah, that wasn't a foul. But this listen, well,
I let him play. The Cougars went through the first
(11:20):
four fouls or five fouls, whatever it was, so it
was never It wasn't about that. They may have missed some,
but it went both ways. We have no argument over,
especially after Saturday, there is no argument on you know,
there can't be a rule for the Cougars and can't
be a rule for Michigan State that they're more physical,
so you got to let them elbow somebody, and there
can't be rules for a team that's not as physical.
(11:42):
We cut them some slack because they're finess, so we're
gonna call it tougher on them. A fouls of foul,
and it should be called in the first quarter. It
should be or in the first half, should be called
in the second twenty minutes, in the second half, should
be called when there's if you're with a forty point leading,
should be called with a tie, A fouls of foul
just like a strike should be a strike no matter what.
I don't care if you're any Marria League in National League,
I don't care what walk on, who's at the plate.
(12:03):
Call it the way it's supposed to be called. You're
going to miss them, but call it. So the inconsistency
of the refs, what they thought and thought wasn't a foul,
but the phrase let them play. If a guy hacks
a guy on the arm, if it's your team, you
don't want to let him play. You want the foul calls.
You can get the and one, or you want the
goaltending call. We're sure so, But but here they missed calls.
But listen with his with his many, with the reign
(12:26):
that they had, and four fouls after what twenty some
minutes or whatever it was, that's all hadad called on him. Nah,
I'm sick to my stomach for the team. Fouls did knit.
The foul calls aren't the reason that this team lost.
The inability to close out and get it done in
the end is the reason they lost. And the last
two possessions not getting a shot off, but and and
(12:49):
a lot of other circumstances throughout the game. But nah,
we can't refs cost us. Now they actually didn't, and
they cost both teams. It costs Duke too well.
Speaker 6 (12:58):
I mean in Florida had a couple of tech in
this game because of their frustration with the officiating.
Speaker 1 (13:03):
So I mean they found a way to overcome it.
I mean, and that's that's the credit. The losers lamit
to blame the umps or the referees on a regular basis.
I don't think Kelvin Sam said im talking about any
of us. When you're in your immedia, go to, yeah,
we have that game, Well, you have that game. If
you have two possessions, you have that game. If you
don't give a layup, you have that game. If you
don't give an alley oop dunk, you have that game.
If you convert a you know, a finish at the rim,
(13:25):
if you don't turn it over. There's a lot of ifs. Okay,
but yeah, I don't that isn't it. And the Cougars
won't make that excuse, and I don't think a lot
of people in this city will make the excuse. But
that ain't it. If it is, and it's a loser's
lamit to blame the officials in a national title game.
They walked out of there and there wasn't one thing
in my mind and went to bed, said, man, if
the officials would have called that game better in the
first half, the Florida would have had a leader, if
(13:47):
the officials would have called it better. Houston automatically wins
that this game was taken by Florida and the door
was left open by Houston. You cannot let a team
like it played right into Florida's hands. And I'm sick
for I'm sick for the team I am, and for
coach Sampson. It hasn't even sunk you. I'll be even
sicker tomorrow after the that part of the frustrated emotion.
(14:07):
The bottom line is Florida did a few things late
better than they took it and did to Houston what
Houston does to most teams. Couldn't said a better myself.
Speaker 6 (14:21):
We're going through the stages of grief here on the

Speaker 2 (15:46):
The Shawn Salisbury Show continues. Hi, that's one Sports Talk
seven ninety side.
Speaker 1 (15:53):
Howard, good morning, Good morning.
Speaker 5 (15:56):
You talk about the rest is good. I don't think
they made a difference. Here's here's a take. I don't
know if it's true, but there.
Speaker 8 (16:02):
Weren't you know, they weren't fouls called in the first half,
and I think Florida made the adjustment. They overadjusted actually
coming out in the second plaf playing overly aggressive, getting
four foules, boom boom, and then they adjusted.
Speaker 9 (16:16):
Again so that they they realized they were gonna have
to to take it back in to roll it back
a little bit. But I think they realized they weren't
calling fouls and they needed to play more aggressively.
Speaker 8 (16:30):
I don't think anything was decided by the ress.
Speaker 6 (16:33):
I appreciate the call, Howard. I mean, you know that's
the thing, Sean, and you talked about it. It's a
loser's lament. You don't want to go down that road.
But I mean you felt like, if nothing else, the
jerseys were in reverse last night because everything that we've
gotten behind with this U of H team, to your point,
take away their best player. They tried to do that
(16:53):
with Clayton, and in the time that it mattered the most,
that's when he stepped up for his team.
Speaker 1 (16:57):
Yeah, but they took him away. They if I'd have
told you the results of that game were going to
turn out like that, there's no way you say Florida
wins there, There is absolutely no way. Okay, so his
for fifteen minutes, the guy was non existent for fourteen minutes.
He's a I told you he's as good a closer
as there is in college basketball. Houston's defense, if they
(17:19):
if I said here's Clayton, here's how the game's going
to play out. Forget the result, Here's how Clayton's game
is going to play out. Here's how you're going at
the end of the game, you would have walked away
from there saying I'll take that in times and I'll
give you ten million dollars to secure a win. He
came on, made some good passes at the end and
made some shots. But that Clayton last night and the
way they defended him, they played that that's as good
(17:43):
as you'll play against a guy who've had back to
back thirty pointers. Clayton didn't He made a difference late
because he still controlled it. But they they gave him
no leeway for what fourteen minutes of the game or
twenty four minutes of the game or whatever it was,
thirty minutes of the game. He he did some things late,
as a good leader who's a senior should But there's
(18:04):
no way anybody can say that that Clayton dominated the game.
Clayton helped at the end, but they played more than
well enough to beat them with the way they played Clayton,
I'll take that any day of the week. That's fair
to say that, But you of h I mean, if
it wasn't LJ. Cryer, if it wasn't inside did Jwan Roberts,
Like I said, you had foul, trouble, tugglers gets out
(18:25):
of the game. And I mean it was the I
guess you could say lieutenants that helped out. It was Martin,
it was Richard, it was their bigs, Condon, those guys
that were able to step up for Florida. That was
the difference in the game. Sean, Well, well that's not
what you said, though you said you said Clayton, that's
exactly You're just validating my point. I said they beat
(18:45):
him without their star playing great basketball and going in
Nobody would have thought that. If I tell you Crier
has three points in the national title, that's what he
would have got her nine points. You would have said,
without knowing the result, Oh what was a shoe? You
would have said tough. They must have played him great.
Same if I would if you didn't watch the game
and I said, here's how Crior and you knew his result,
what he was throughout this tournament, throughout the season, and
(19:07):
the last two two thirty point plus games, and seeing
him on Saturday, you were in the building, you saw him.
If I'd have said, well, here's how this is going
to end, you just said ball game over Houston wins.
He would have said it. I didn't argue that her
debate with you that the other guys won it. That's
exactly who won it, not the referees, not Clayton comes
(19:28):
out of that. I'll take that. If Clayton has that
type of game, with the way the defense played him,
they will beat Florida nine out of ten times. Unfortunately,
the tenth time they also turned it over and allowed
the other guy to get a shot and get a layup,
get a dunk by turning over. They almost lost the
game on the offensive end with turnovers and shots they
(19:49):
didn't get off, as opposed to lose it on the defense,
where Clayton took over the last nine minutes and had
four straight baskets. Not the case. So my point is,
you said the Luke Tens, That's exactly who was the
difference in the game last night. There are other guys
which you got to have, but there's very few people.
Every sharp gambler on the planet, if I said Clayton's
(20:12):
going to have this type of game, would have switched
their bet if they'd have picked Florida before the game started.
So they did exactly what they needed to do on Clayton.
The problem is they didn't finish up the rest and
most of the time they wouldn't lose that. They didn't
lose it because of effort, and they didn't lose it
because they didn't play hard. All those things that you
can't coach. I mean that you shouldn't coach they're going
(20:34):
to play hard. They lost it because of execution on
each and every compartmentalized possession. The game was. They beat
down Florida in the first half physically without I mean
everything was rolling pretty smoothly, but when they had a
chance to extend the lead, they just didn't. And at
halftime nerves give. I thought, oh, hell, wrong team. Can't
(20:57):
you have to bury them and floor. It's almost like
I said yesterday on this show, said spot them ten
points and lookout, spot them ten points. And they had
a bigger lead than that. Let them hang around. They've
been playing as well as anybody in the country the
last month or whatever. So it's not a surprise. And
I'm sick for Houston because everything they did go into
(21:19):
and say here's how we're going to play it. Defensively,
you'd have been pretty happy, man, and with Clayton you've
been elated, and it just couldn't close it out. And
unfortunately it became as not because you got lazy on defense.
They made some good shots and some good plays, and
you know, they had some good transition plays, but what
happened was inefficiency on the offensive end. And sadly this
(21:40):
time it was well. But the reasons other than injuries
that the Houston's been has struggled at this point Final four,
in the final, they've been in the number one seed
three straight years, has been offensively not being able in
the past shooting, and they didn't shoot it as well.
Beyond on the arc is they have most of the year,
(22:02):
but it was offensive possessions that cost the team. Well,
it's also to Florida credit. They forced a lot of
trouble at the end.
Speaker 2 (22:08):
No, they did.
Speaker 6 (22:09):
And I heard Kelvin Sampson with the media after the
game talking about holding their guards to five and twenty. Well,
guess what two of your guards were five of twenty
Uzan and Sharp both exactly that number from the field
one of eleven from three. I mean U of H
was six of twenty six from three last night. So again,
I mean, you know, the numbers can tell you a
little bit of the story. I understand that people will
(22:29):
say it doesn't tell at all, but I mean, your
second highest score in that game last night, Malik Wilson.
I would probably venture to guest Sean, if Malik Wilson's
your second highest score, you're not feeling good about your
off hany.
Speaker 1 (22:41):
Points nine point. I was about to tell you they
had one guy in double figures that was going to
be my next point. One guy in double figures. And listen,
there were things that creeped in that are not typical
of the Houston Cougars basketball to just and it's it's
he said half. I mean, he said during an interview
(23:02):
before I like, during a time out, coach Samson did,
hey man, we're so to start. There's nerves. This isn't
what state did he call it? We're not playing Sasquatch, Yes,
Sasquatch State. And he's exactly right. So he's even admitting
it's nerves. It's the biggest game of these kids' lives.
Of course, there's going to be some nerves and pressure
and set in. You just want to once you settle in,
(23:24):
to do that where it doesn't affect and you can
call what you want choke under pressure. Florida deserves credit,
and again we gave Houston all the credit in the world,
maybe the national stations for how Duke fell by the
wayside because Houston created it. Florida it's not like we
had a hack fourteen seed that came in here. Florida's
pretty damn good. And the problem is when you give
(23:48):
up possessions, good teams like that eventually get you. It's
like when you're playing at TI. I'm not comparing Florida
to Tiger Woods, but they've played hell like Tiger Woods
is dominated before. They've been very, very good coming out
in the second half after spotting team's leads. When you're
playing against Tiger Woods, and he may miss one birdie
putter too, But if you keep leaving the door open
(24:10):
for a guy like Camera Scheffler, they're eventually going to
get you. Just you leave it open for Mahomes, Eventually
he's gonna get you. They did the great ones always
do and Florida's damn good program. But you left it open,
not once, not twice. I mean, there was a bunch
of second half possessions that were either unforced airs or
missed open looks. And in the first half their defense
(24:35):
was so good on Clayton, we were pushing, winding down
the first half and he hadn't got a look an
uncontested look yet. Yeah, they did enough. Their other guys
posted a little better than our other guys down in
the second half. Unfortunately, that was the difference in the game.
Gave away possessions in the second half.

Speaker 6 (26:13):
These are the ones that before you go to bed
the night before, you're just kind of like it's gonna
be one of those days tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (26:21):
I mean, it's either one of the great celebrations or
one of the big bummer shows. It's it sucks for
the University Houston. And then you flip over and I
mean to watch the Astros game as well, and to
give it away like they did with the lead late
clutch hitting by Seattle Bummer, but my mind was on it.
I don't I haven't even go to University Houston, but
(26:42):
I care so much for coach Sampson and the way
they've worked, and I know the city and all the
great Cougar fans and the run and how many times
they flirted with this and three one seeds in a row,
and hell, they may be a better team next year,
but at some point in time you hope that over
the hump means they just go dominate eight for forty
minutes on the offensive end. We know on the defensive end,
(27:03):
they're gonna give you, they're gonna That's what I'm saying
about defense. It always travels. Bad shooting nights or when
your star doesn't play well, if you'll play defense, you
still have a chance. And then, well, Florida did it.
They matched it games in the sixties and they took
care of their business, and they matched the intensity when
(27:24):
it came to the defensive intensity and ramped it up.
But that's who they are in the second half. It's
you can have bad shooting nights and if you don't
play defense, you'll still you'll you'll get run. But if
you have bad shooting nights or average shooting nights, but
you'd play great defense, getting to the floor, getting to
your spot, making sure you're switching and doing everything necessary
(27:44):
and get to the backboards, you will. And Houston was
doing that too. One point they were at twelve offensive rebounds.
I think early in the second half they were killing it,
doing what they need to do, and so was Florida.
They matched that second half, which has been their calling card.
And the defense travels all the time. You just got
it at the end when we look back, it's been
(28:06):
offense that's been a close out for the offense that
hasn't been able to do it and these runs that
they've had and last night was no different. But there's
a lot of creative problems that Florida caused down the stretch.
They did a great job of of just kind of
one point here. Like I said, it was not as slow.
It was a slow depth, it wasn't a fast one,
(28:27):
and it was they just kept plugging it. I look
up and I said that they're in the lead, and
then you watch it, but you're steering through the TV
thinking that they're they're in the lead, and they they
did what they needed to do, and a bunch of
a handful of possessions in the second half cost the
(28:47):
Cougars and you know they'll they'll be sick over it,
but they got to get back to work and they will.
But man, I'm sick for them and for us to
judge a career or a season or a tournament unfortunately
for you know, this team. And you know he's gonna
wake up this morning stick to his stomachause of the
last two possessions.
Speaker 6 (29:07):
Well, speaking of one of those last two possessions, the
final one we saw what happened with Emmanuel Sharp there
and Kelvin Sampson after the game talking about that final
shot for the Kougs are the one that did not happen.
Speaker 1 (29:19):
Yeah, I'm just.
Speaker 10 (29:21):
Going through those last two possessions morningy thing else incomprehensible
in that situation, we couldn't get a shot, get a shot, I.
Speaker 6 (29:31):
Mean straight to the point, and I mean it was
not only that. It was the Kya Cryer stepping on
the out of bounds. I mean, yeah, you get the
ball off of Emmanuel Sharp's leg to go out of bounds,
and then you get that one where. I mean, it's
the one thing they teach you, sean in basketball of
you don't leave the feet as an offensive player. You
(29:53):
get them to leave the feet and then you either
try to dribble, drive or try to draw contact, whatever
it might be. But he went up for the shot,
the defender met him right there. It would have gotten blocked.
But still it was as soon as you saw that happen,
You're like, this is not gonna be good.
Speaker 1 (30:09):
Yeah, I was well played by Florida. I just I'm
sitting here is going through this thinking Okay, how many
possessions could they have even extended to lead in the
first half? And where'd they go wrong on a transition?
Speaker 5 (30:21):
Did they give up?
Speaker 1 (30:22):
I go through it. It's one of those you almost
have to go back and watch again because I'm still baffled.
But then you think, do I want to go through
this dog on gut wrenching again to see it? So
if you're feeling like this, imagine what Emmanuel Sharp's feeling
and the Cougars are feeling. Getting so close, Because in truth,
(30:43):
when we say a team played well enough to win,
or a pitcher pitched well enough or a hitter, oh,
they played well enough to win if they win, and
they didn't, but they did enough to put themselves in
position to win. They just didn't do enough in the
last three or four minutes to close it out. The
first sixteen minutes and fifteen minutes twelve whatever I mean
twenties was fifteen. I'm talking about the first twenty twenty
(31:06):
five minutes, you know, the first half, and then rolling
in the second half. They chipped away, but I still
I didn't really until the second you know, inside of
ten minutes you started to take notice. In six and minutes,
five minutes, you're like, okay, now it's different. Then it
starts to get down to close to one possession or
three minutes, you know, they're a possession or two, and
(31:27):
I honestly, I'm still looking at how did we get here?
I was last night said no and you don't miss
a possession, you know, like, how did I get How
are we in this position right now? Watching this game Florida?
I mean, it's just like, how did they get scratched
their way back into it? Because they were getting mauled
in the first half and the Cougars weren't even playing
their best basketball. They were missing shots, but they were
(31:51):
everything they did. You know, they were getting free, they
weren't picking up fouls, nobody was in trouble, and they
were doing some amazing things. And that was without shoot
the high percentage like they normally do. And then they
in Florida, it's almost like they're going at halftime say, okay, man,
the game can start now. And credit to them for
their resilience to get through it, just like Houston did
(32:11):
on Saturday. But I still can't believe that we're sitting
here saying that they didn't get a shot off last two.
But I feel horrible for a manu Sharp because that's
something as an athlete you just never especially when you're
impressionable at that age, and kids are pretty resilient, but
that's something that especially with some of the things he
did in the game that were so impressive, that's the
(32:33):
unfortunate part of it. And we only remember those things
and we shouldn't because he's a big reason they got here.
It's just a bummer day, man, it is. It's a bummer,
no doubt about it.
Speaker 6 (32:42):
We'll hear more from UH coach Kelvin Sampson coming up
here also too. As the show goes along, weave in
some astros and also some of the other things that
maybe you can get our mind off it a little bit.
But if you want to be able to cry, yell
all of the emotions we get. It's the stages of grief.
Someone three two on two, five seven ninety against someone
(33:04):
three two on two, five seven ninety.
Speaker 1 (33:06):
Here on the Seawn Salisbury Show. You're back.
Speaker 2 (33:12):
This is the Sean Salisbury Show. Get back at it.
Speaker 1 (33:17):
Morning, Arthur. What's going on?
Speaker 11 (33:18):
Good morning?
Speaker 7 (33:19):
Uh?
Speaker 10 (33:21):
Yeah, it's disheartening reliving this all over again. The only
thing missing was Florida's coach running around looking for somebody
the hug.
Speaker 11 (33:34):
But I digress from that. But Florida man didn't do
anything to win this game.
Speaker 10 (33:39):
Two of that main stars went for a combined five
of twenty six, and if we made at least half
of the open shots we had, we win this game
by at.
Speaker 5 (33:49):
Least double digits.
Speaker 10 (33:51):
Now, the last play call was questioned questionable by coach Sampson,
But other than that, you can't blame them for this loss.
Speaker 11 (34:00):
And I'm going to end it with this.
Speaker 10 (34:02):
You can't use axes and o's to draw plays for nerves.
Speaker 1 (34:08):
Let's go Rockets.
Speaker 6 (34:10):
Appreciate the call, Arthur. I mean, I'm going to disagree
in terms of the overall production in the game. I mean,
I understand what Arthur's saying right there under a stand
also too, what Kelvin Sampson's talking about of holding Clayton
and Martin to five to twenty from the field, I mean,
the same deal. Use In and Sharp, two guys that
have to factor for you, same deal, and they combined
(34:30):
for fourteen points in this loss. And it's I mean,
we talked about the other guys that got it done
for Florida to help them win this game. And I
mean those were parts of the equation. But I mean,
I know after the game they talked about the final
play was drawn up for Crier. They had Crier marked up.
He was not going to get a shot off, so
(34:51):
then you try to improvise from there and it just
didn't work out.
Speaker 1 (34:55):
Yeah. How many times do we see your number one
not be able to get the guy who want to
get the shot doesn't get at the shot, either has
to give it up because he's doubled, or they can't
get the pass to him, and so they have to
get somebody else's clock runs down. It wasn't a great possession,
and I don't think their intention was to hover around
because they were down two. I don't think it was
to hover around. No, you wanted to end it knock
down a three if it was an open look. But
(35:17):
he didn't need a three pointer. What was the final score,
sixty five to sixty three, and they were playing the
whole possession was beyond the arc? It was, I mean,
it wasn't even he didn't get a chance to bang
it in. So now unless that was the thing, line
it up. Let's go knock down the win. Fine, but
you also could take your chance to pound it inside
(35:38):
and get a and one or get to the free
throw line. So I get being aggressive, but that whole
possession is played pretty much be on three point line.
You never had a chance, and they defended it. Arthur
makes good points, but I do disagree on the fact
that when somebody says they didn't do anything to win
this game, well, how are they hoisting the trophy? Then
(36:00):
I don't. I don't think it was just Houston's team
that gave away four hundred possessions that allowed Florida to win.
Florida earned the right, they're in the right to be there,
and damn well know that. But that's why we don't
play basketball with two guys. The two guys they shut
down both teams, shut down the good shooting pretty good.
(36:20):
That's when the other three cats and two or three
off the bench have to come and give you minutes
and give you some good possessions on both ends. And so, yeah,
Florida did plenty to win. They opened when when the
opportunity was opened up, they made it happen. They did
played great basketball, and it was an ugly game. You
know when when we say it wasn't one of those
(36:40):
smooth up and down where man knocking down was just
it was. It was a fairly ugly game, but that's
okay because Houston knows how to play in those. But
it comes down to, as we said going on, you
got to make free throws, you got to defend, and
you got to knock down big shots and can't waste possessions.
And unfortunately for Houston the wasted possessions, Florida took advantage
(37:02):
of them and they end up winning the game. So
Florida did do something to win this game, and they
did win because had they had done nothing, even without
the closing out the possessions in the end, you wouldn't
have needed to close them out because you'd had about
a twelve or fourteen point lead. Of course, they did plenty,
they just didn't do it with their stars. So whenever
(37:23):
somebody doesn't do it with their when we say their stars,
there featured guys, we look around like what happened? Well,
the other three guys are on scholarship too, as are
some of the guys on the bench. And Florida, remember
there one seed we got the four to one seeds,
we got the four best teams in America playing in it,
and unfortunately a day two days later, they were beat
(37:46):
at the same things that caused Duke problems against Houston.
You missed on possessions, missshots, miss front end of a
one on one. It may not be the same way
they missed, but they missed, miss front into one on
one for Procter, go down for the Texan the Cougars
in this one for the Texas team, Cougar's in this one,
(38:07):
and you kick a ball out of bounce, you know
so it does it. It was eerily similar for all
three of these Florida has been in two of them,
had to come from behind in both in the final four.
In this one in Houston. The same things that made
you laugh on a Saturday made you cry on a Monday.
And that's exactly how it turned out. Did they have
anything to be ashamed of? No, but one thing that
(38:29):
we're getting spoiled to here. Just like with Astros fans,
the problem is is the expectations, and Coach Sampson has
raised the expectations, and obviously all of us believe their
Final four team every year. But I can just tell
you in sports, I know it feels like it's just
normal for all the blue bloods. Think about this, the
(38:52):
greatest coach. You can make an argument that Gino Ariama's
a top coach in any sport ever of all time.
A mount rushmoreph. I mean, he's what he's done is
nothing short of fantastic. You know, the last time they
won a national title, it was like twenty sixteen, I believe, Okay, yeah,
so it was nearly ten years ago. When I tell
you that, you're like, there's no way. Then you start
(39:13):
to really say, well, South Carolina and what they've done
in Tennessee and LSU and Stanford and they start to
roll through them ten years and this is the team
that we just assume. Oh see, seeing the championship game
every year, it's been I mean, when I thought, I said, damn,
has it been that long since Gino's teams won a championship?
It has, And they won it and in blazing fashion.
(39:34):
They destroyed South Carolina twice this year and destroyed They
ran their way mean UCLA and South Carolina. The combined
total between him looked like it was amateur hour. They're
playing seventh graders. They crushed their ass. The point is
it's hard to do what Yukon's done over the years,
and it's been ten years since they've been back, and
that's as dominant a college basketball program as there ever is.
(39:57):
So here, look what the Assras have done. It's easy
because right now we're thinking, oh, next year they'll be back.
That's my only thing. And for the seniors that got
to leave, you don't get the chance again on the
college level, for the guys that are gone. And so
when we said, when I say cherishim with how hard
we assume because what coach Sampson has built here, this
is just a normal occurrence. I mean, think about how
(40:19):
long some of the schools that are blue when's the
last time Kentucky won a national championship twenty eleven? What
year are we in twenty twenty five? Blue blood? I
mean you start to go, you usually start to roll.
So it's like, when's the last time you see LA
won a national title ninety five? I think it's about
the same time Dallas Cowboys did. Yeah, So my point
is it's hard. So we have gotten the points like, oh,
(40:42):
but for the guys who don't get another chance to
shoot a jump shot or get to the glass, that
are leaving school. That's sure that that's the last memory
on the basketball court. And it's a bummer.
Speaker 5 (40:53):
It just is.
Speaker 1 (40:54):
But what a season. But for players, it's never You
rarely forget the now you're in the city, you rarely
remember the runner up. I always remember the champion. But
here they'll remember it because this team was more than
worthy and it looked like they were going to lock
the national title away. For the majority of that game,
other than forty six seconds is all Florida had the lead.
Speaker 6 (41:15):
That's why, you know, whenever I hear people say, oh, well,
you know this guy or this team only won one,
you know, world title or national title, I'm like, well,
that's more than you're ever going to get.
Speaker 1 (41:24):
So that's number one.
Speaker 6 (41:25):
But number two, you just completely cheapen exactly what went
into winning that very one. And to your point, it
just shows you even the best in all of sports, Shawn,
I mean even the best handful of them three, four, five, six, seven,
however many of them, you don't just get these in bunches.
It doesn't just you know, happen for you. It's not
on a string.
Speaker 1 (41:45):
The majority of players don't win championships. It's not the
majority that do. The majority of players that play pro
or college sports do not win championships. They just don't.
How many different coquarterbacks have won the Super Bowl in
the last ten years, Brady Mahomes, Stafford, Hurts and Hurts,
(42:09):
who else who we leave it out? I'm sure we're
leaving somebody, but not many. My point is that there's
a It's like the wealth in the country. Ten percent
of the people control about ninety percent of the wealth.
It is hard to win championships. When we say, Ah,
Rogers only has one, and we're diminishing Marino then by
saying he has none, So that means that Barkley Malone, Stockton,
(42:36):
Dan Marino, and a whole bunch of other guys that
I played. I had six Hall of Famers, I think
in on my team in Minnesota. None of those guys,
but at least in Minnesota, Chris Carter, John Randall, Garry Zimmerman,
great players. No, no Hall of Fame, Randall McDaniel, Chris Dolman, No,
no Hall of Fame. I mean Hall of Fame, but
(42:58):
no championship, Hall of Fame, no champ list goes on
and on and on. There's more of those guys, then
the other way most of us have played. Fortunately, you know,
if you get one, it's great, you'd like ten of them.
But Brady's not the norm. The norm is you spend
your whole career trying to get one and you don't.
And if you get one, cycle, okay, I need a second.
But if you get one, at least you got one.
That great Chicago Bears team one of them. One super Bowl.
(43:22):
Hard to win them, just like it's hard to win
national championships. And when you have it right there in
your hands and it slides through more than once on
one possession, what happens time and time again late in
the game like it did this one. That's even tougher
to swallow. Because Kelvin Sampson's teams have always been able
to overcome. It's just in this moment they couldn't. Last night.
Speaker 6 (43:41):
Yeah, just you know, you really have to just try
and take advantage of those situations, and you have h
unable to do that last night they fall by to
to Florida. I'll let you again here more from Kelvin Sampson,
but also to somebody to blame, maybe the person that
you wouldn't necessarily think of First, that's next right here,
Sean Salisbury's show.
Speaker 2 (44:00):
KBM E Houston, k t D HD two Houston, an
iHeart radio station.
Speaker 1 (44:07):
As a Rocket.
Speaker 2 (44:10):
This is Sports Talk seven ninety your home for your
home teams from the Parsons that match. Next Studios.
Speaker 1 (44:21):
Salsbury, Houston.
Speaker 2 (44:26):
Okay, let's do this, Sewan Salisbury, USC.
Speaker 12 (44:31):
True longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 2 (44:33):
Dan Matthews. This is the Sewn Salisbury Show.
Speaker 6 (44:42):
Guess are your American League and National League players of
the week? Are the American League? Yep, you guessed it,
Alex Bregman, National League? Uh huh, Kyle Tucker. So things
are just going swimmingly around here, Sean.
Speaker 1 (44:54):
It's what you guys told me. Saturday was one of
the greatest days of sports around I was, and now
Monday's one of the worst.
Speaker 6 (45:00):
What's what's the word humility is right around the corner. Yeah,
we're eating it a lot this morning. It's it's a
heaping helping of it. That's That's what I had along
with my breakfast sandwich this morning.
Speaker 1 (45:10):
Yeah, Tucker's swinging it pretty well, and I Bragman loves
that ballpark. I'm telling you now, he's a sneaky MVP candidate.
You watch, I didn't know. I thought his bat had
fallen off to the point where it was going to
be good, but never MVP caliber again. Now, who knows.
We're so early in the season, but there's something going.
His energy looks different, His celebrations look like they did
(45:32):
back when he was, Like we've talked about back when
he was there's an energy like it's almost back where
there's more swagger. I don't know what it is, but
he just looks different. And this is early in the season.
He doesn't do this, it's day. I mean, he may
well end up being if he gets if he plays
(45:52):
one hundred and fifty games and he continues to do
what he's always done in Fenway Park. I mean, it's
a legendary what he does there in the annals of time,
with some of the great players that have been through Fenway,
it's incredible. And on Sunday he did them. He was
doubled off the wall and hit it in the well.
We talked about yesterday, but no shock that they're the
(46:12):
players that week in the league, in the National American League.
But I wouldn't I wouldn't sit back and think that's
the only time this is going to happen. They're both
really good players in ballparks that are going to favor
their swings and and Bregman has proven it throughout his
whole career that that's a place he loves to play.
But there is a juveni It almost feels like he
(46:34):
wanted out anyway, and he went to the place that
he was thinking about going for. You know that may
have wanted for a while, that Fenway rumor, and it
finally got closed out. And good on them. If he
stays healthy and it goes you may see his best
hitting season since he was second in the MVP voting. Yeah,
it's just it's that.
Speaker 6 (46:56):
It's I mean, you know the way that the season
has started with the Astros bad and you see that,
you're just like, oh man, So the Dana Brown haters
they are out this morning in full force.
Speaker 1 (47:07):
Yeah, of course they are. But did you want to
pay him thirty million a year? Did you want to
pay him two hundred and ten million for five or
six years? He still win? God? Right? Yeah, five hundred
million for fourteen right? First of all ten year contracts
are the Vlad Guerrero will. You'd be lucky to see
the final four years of his career productive wise, fourteen
(47:31):
years for now, that's going to make him what thirty eight,
we've got to be pushing forty. Right around forty, he'll
be just a guy by then. But good on him
because he's an MVP candidate every year. And listen, the
history of Bregman doesn't say he put it this way.
He likes it in Fenway more than he likes it
here in dyke in Park or a minute maye before
(47:52):
it was dyke in Park. The guy just that's his
and he gets to do it eighty one times there.
So I know the frustration. But most people were ready
to move on at that price. For Alex pregnant and
he's landed in the spot that he looks to feel
comfortable at least early in the season.
Speaker 6 (48:11):
Oh good for him. Yeah, tough easially for our exes.
We want to see our exes going through it. We
don't want to see them thriving. But well, apparently both
Kyle Tucker and Alex Bregman are thriving. Well, get back
into the Astros conversation. Obviously the line share of it
this morning is the koogs Andy see on the phone lines.
Get to you here in just a second. But Sean
and Noah Kenney from over on the Morning show on
(48:32):
KPRC nine to fifty came in and brought this up.
You saw who was in the building last night, right, Yeah,
are we really going to do this? I know they are, well,
they are at CFB home on Twitter pointed out sports
betters are now eighteen and two since twenty seventeen when
betting the money line against teams that Ted Cruz showed
(48:53):
up to support in person. If you had bet one
hundred dollars on each game, you would have netted about
three thousand dollars.
Speaker 1 (49:00):
Theo's fault, Well, I mean, you're looking for convenient people
to blame.
Speaker 6 (49:04):
And of course, yeah, once that photo starts making its
way around social media, it's gonna be people saying I
knew it.
Speaker 1 (49:10):
I knew that something was off here tonight, and now
we know so it's THEO that last possession, THEO dialed
it up. So yeah, yeah, he should have taken us
up on that. Damn philibuster man the record, but do
we have any idea how many games doesn't he go to?
All these like games in Houston?
Speaker 13 (49:28):
Is he like?
Speaker 1 (49:29):
And he has brought that up before.
Speaker 6 (49:30):
I mean, I think he was in the building for
twenty two obviously when they beat the Phillies.
Speaker 1 (49:34):
Do we give him credit for the wins or only
just disdain? No, we give him credit only for the
losses that you know this where you been? Man? What
do you knew here? Well, he's a politician. He should
expect it, right, being the fact that it's hard to
I mean, but I like, you know, THEO. It's not
Theo's fault. Of course he wanted to go. He's a
big fan. He's a hoop guy too, isn't he see
(49:55):
for all of the stuff, you know, it's did you
ever watch the Wire?
Speaker 5 (49:59):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (49:59):
So remember the police chief about the bowl of this
and the bucket of that, of you know when the
people are eat breakfast?
Speaker 1 (50:05):
Yeah, all time. Great show.
Speaker 6 (50:07):
But I mean the point where I'm going with this
is he's like, come on, guys, like, look what I
deal with on a daily basis. If you want to
come out me with sports eight, I think I'm okay
about it, right, So.
Speaker 1 (50:17):
I would imagine THEO and the big picture. He should
just buy in and start laughing about it. Now right
to the part we just embrace it. Be the heel
and just go. And you know what, if you love
sporting events and you you know, keep going. I mean,
what are you going to do? You can't tell let
somebody on social media tell you to stay home when
you want to watch the game. I mean, how about
(50:38):
there's probably fifteen people that I've been to the last
three tournaments and we've lost and we haven't got to
the finals. So maybe it's I mean, we all have
these little quirks of superstititions, but it's convenient to blame
it on THEO.
Speaker 6 (50:48):
I told you about my mom and dad why they
weren't in the building on Saturday. Yeah, they weren't the
building on Saturday because they're like, well, Bud, that's what
they call me, Bud. They're like, we're kind of a jinx.
So I mean, you know, at least they have the
presence of mind to do that, and so they should
have gone out to dinner with THEO. Maybe maybe, maybe
next time I'll tell him that, I'll say, hey, look,
if next year in Indianapolis, the Koug's are in the
(51:09):
national title game, why don't we try to arrange for
my Like last night we went over to my brother's house,
made a great stake, shout out Ryan, good good stuff.
Speaker 1 (51:17):
So maybe maybe that's that I think he lives over
there in the area.
Speaker 6 (51:20):
Maybe maybe we invite him over next time and say, hey,
you know got great TVs here, We got a great setup.
Speaker 1 (51:26):
You can watch it with us. Don't call him Ted though,
Why not? Because you want to call him mister Cruise.
Mister mister Cruse. I'm nearly his age now. It's like
my dad tried. My dad tried to hit me with
that the other day. Call him mister. I'm like dad,
I'm nearly forty. I can call him by his first name,
call him mister Cruise or THEO. That's the formal, isn't
that the formal of Ted?
Speaker 14 (51:46):
Or?
Speaker 1 (51:46):
Is that the nickname? He's a Theodore? No, you got
to you got is in the eighteen hundreds, well the
early nineteen hundreds. Yeah, exactly, we're Theodore. Yeah, yeah, you
gotta call him THEO. Right. So Teddy was in the
was in the stadium, hurts man cuts deep. We're looking
(52:10):
for anything to play. Of course, if I confess it's
got to be Ted's fault, sure, THEO. But if I'm THEO,
I'm just I'm healing up I'm saying, one day's when
they do that, it's like I'm a politician. I've heard
of this before. I'm going to every single game to
anybody in the any pro or college team has its championship,
I'm showing up if I'm THEO, just to either egg
it on or say, see, we can win a national
(52:32):
title with me in the building. Sometimes, I mean, that's
the thing. Just lean into the troll. I'm gonna there's
nothing wrong with that. Yeah, I mean, as a matter
of fact, you'll probably have a little fun and have
some laughs and a good time along the way. Anything
wrong with that. Yeah, I'm sick. I'm just so bumed today.
And I don't get bummed very often. I don't, I
(52:52):
honestly do not. Sports doesn't. And I'm being I've said
this on the show in some roundabout way. Sports is rarely.
Athletes get over stuff. Now, this one is gonna be
a long time. But like a loss in week five
of the regular season, by the time the plane lands,
now we'll go over in our head what we could
have done. But you got athletes get over a faster
(53:16):
than fans do because you have to move on to
the next game or the next preparation, whatever it is.
They'll be sickened about this because they're still you know,
you're young and impressiable, but this has been there. I mean,
these are the big decisive These are life things that
they're going through. Would be say, well, that's not real
pressure for them. Last night was the biggest pressure of
their life so far, unless you know, maybe a girlfriend
(53:36):
or had a baby, or they their moms and dad
have got another a baby, or you know somebody was
ill or somebody's healthy, or somebody got married. I mean,
these are they're getting married. You know, as a college kid,
kids do it more often. This has been like the
last night was a big This has been huge for them.
There's pressure. I mean, who knows how many championships you're
going to see again at any level of play. So
(53:57):
it's huge for them, and you know, you take you
take that pressure, but you get over it quickly. I
don't ever whether it's my us he chose. I honestly
don't stew over losses for my teams for more than
a day at the most. I don't hit me like,
oh man, what a bummer that we'll been cool to
celebrate or own We're not getting the parade or any
(54:18):
of those things. This I don't know what it is,
but maybe it's my relationship and knowing how hard and
how much coach Sampson loves his players and knowing his
career and just a friendship. This bothers me more than
if I lost the game right now, Not that anybody
cares if it bothers me, but for me normally, Okay, man,
you know what. Hell, let's let's look at the positives
(54:39):
of it. Class half full break down why it happened,
and not belabor the point. I think there is a
morning process that we as fans and media and players
have to go through, and you should let it faster
to drive to bother you so you're better next time.
I believe you need to go through that growth thing.
I do, and it's a growth thing had. Learning how
to win in certain situations in any walk of life
(54:59):
is important and how you get there, But prepare for
it because there's losses. We just see their loss on TV.
Somebody lost the sales, you know, sell to somebody else,
to another company. So whatever it is, a politician lost,
there are ours is on These kids were in front
of millions of people watch lost night so it's even tougher.
But I don't take losses or wins. I get over them,
both wins and losses. I don't let them. I just
(55:20):
move on. That's why I've always been Stever, when my
team loses in the World Series, I'm not bothered by
a week. I just never the Raiders lose. It doesn't
I don't take it into Tuesday. I just don't. But
this one, I don't know what it is. And I
think it's my you know that immerse yourself and into
a friendship or somebody you really care about, and watch
how hard he how much he cares and loves the kids,
(55:42):
and it's Coach Sampson, And I think that's where I'm sick,
because I'm sick for the Houston and for the fans
and stuff, But for him, it feels like it like
like I was involved and I had nothing to do
with the game other than watching it like the rest
of us did. But yeah, man, I don't. I don't
usually come in the next morning like, oh, it's it.
This bugs me. And it's not a blame thing. It's
bugs me because I feel I know today when they
(56:04):
wake up, it's gonna be like, no, please, because the
first thing that's gonna hit if you slept is like
you got to relive it. And that feeling sucks, man,
it just does. And my love for coach Sampson and
what he does and how much he cares makes it
tougher than if I'd have been the one missing the
jump shot. I honestly that's why I feel and I
do not carry sports with me. I'm I get over
it quick. I love sports, but it doesn't run my life,
(56:27):
and neither as a loss or a victory. I just
get If they'd have won today, I'd be awesome. I'd
be happy for coach till I got to tell we
got him on and start to talk to him, interview him.
But I wouldn't by the time Friday gets here, I'm
thinking about man, I can't wait to see if they
can go double double, you know repeat. So I don't
get up. This one's I don't know what it is.
It's like it leaves a pit in your stomach. And
maybe it's because I know all the questions that are
(56:49):
going to be asked how they lost, and a manual
sharps of the world we're gonna have to deal with it,
and it sucks for a kid who's just you know,
has been really a big, big part of what they're doing.
Speaker 6 (56:58):
Well, hopefully soon enough we'll get to bargaining and then
eventually acceptance. It's the stages of grief, no doubt about it.
Andy al see you guys right there. We'll get you
in the fold seven one three two one two five
seven ninety. You want to join them, you can do so.
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety. Shawn
coming up next. I'm gonna give you a choice. We
can talk a music festival, and we can talk pretty
(57:20):
much Jurassic Park, but for mammals, we'll discuss that right here.
Shawn Salisbury Show, back to the.
Speaker 2 (57:27):
Sewn Salisbury Show on Sports Talk seven ninety. I'm sports
your astroids, your rockets, your voice, all right, Sean, what
are you hearing out there now? The Salisbury stakeouts Salsbury
takeout on the Sean.
Speaker 6 (57:49):
Salisbury Show, Sports Talk seven ninety. It is the Shawn
Salisbury Show. Yeah, we're talking about it. You of Ahe
loses last night sixty five sixty three and then as
title game the Florida Astros too, uh huh, four to
three loss in Seattle too.
Speaker 1 (58:06):
It was not fun. Well today, you're already frustrated by
what's happened with the the Koogs, and he was like
sit and watching that.
Speaker 6 (58:12):
It's like, come on now, boom boom, you know, oh,
come on, yeah, Taylor Scott walks the first two guys.
You get him over to second and third with one out?
How did they get the second third?
Speaker 1 (58:23):
To validate? How do they get the second third? Man
runners on first and second. I am saying it because
we will the respect factor of I don't like to
do it either, but I do think there's a time
and a place where you should do it. Now, who's
the short stop with the bat? Who had the bat
(58:43):
in his hand with runners on first, second? Crawford? Good hitter, yeah, good,
good player and a really good fielder as we found out,
good fielder. Well, what did he do? I'm just curious
what did he do and where did he lay the
butt down? I'm not saying it third base butt? They
get the second third, and then what happened when a
brave came in? Hey, he struck out Julio Rodriguez, and
(59:04):
then what happened? Then he hung a slider and then
what happened and then two runs scored from where were
they again second and third? Interesting? What was the final score?
Four to three? So small ball once in a while,
instead of hitting two eighteen and trying to drive the
ball over the fence, they actually came up with the
car and he missed. He had a strike on it
(59:24):
and laid down it perfect. Then, how it turns out
is that was the difference in the game. So it's
not always about hitting the ball over the fence. And
we had to call actually every now and again for
anybody who discounts that small ball are bunting at any
time is a waste of it at bat now, that's
why they won the game. But smart down the third baseline,
(59:44):
third basement fields. It move the runners over, get a
strikeout on your biggest star boom next day hangar slider, bam,
guy pumps it into the outsold for a base that
you score two otherwise one scores and who knows how
long you're playing or if you're playing extra. So point
being is, as we digress, how ironic is it that
we talked about it, say, playing a little small ball
(01:00:05):
once a while is okay. It's okay to move a
runner over or to first and second to get the
second third scoring position with no outs. It's okay to
do that once in a while. Nobody said to live
by it, and nobody said to make that your mo
as a team, because we don't do that in base anymore.
But it is okay to be good at it when
you need it. And I'll be damned, cost him a
(01:00:27):
game last night. Cost him a game last night by
small ball and putting the ball in play on a
great bunt, made the right guy field it and then
paid off with a base hit to drive into and
win the game.
Speaker 6 (01:00:41):
Pstros, I know you did it on Sunday, but you
really had a chance to at least say at least
they won last night.
Speaker 1 (01:00:46):
And I'll tell you another thing. Yeah, that's exactly right.
When's the last time in your life, And that's a
little hyperbolic that you walked two runners or you walk
a leadoff runner, and it is as well for your
inning well and very often. I was going to say
I hadn't pitched it over twenty years, so yeah, it's
been a while, right, or a team that you liked it.
(01:01:09):
It doesn't end well when you put when you give
free passes to players, No, it doesn't. All right, well,
speaking of things that, now that I've bummed your high
even more, yeah yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:01:21):
Real quick, you want to talk a music festival or
bringing back an extinct animal.
Speaker 1 (01:01:26):
Or if you talk about the music, let's bring it
back in an animal pride because that music festival. Brian
Lilim and I discussed that the guy stealing money, goes
to jail, comes back and is trying to steal money
again by order and stuff that's not there that you
don't get the ROI for which pretty much yeah, yeah, yeah.
And the fact that anybody would actually buy a ticket
from shows you how stupid America is at times.
Speaker 6 (01:01:45):
Imply no carpid people can be imply do Carmen told them, yeah,
you're not holding it. We're not. You're not going to
make us the Behemian Island, all right, and that's that's
not happening here.
Speaker 1 (01:01:55):
Right And you already call you already spent what twenty
some thirty million dollars of other people's money them not again.
You don't get a second chance to do that. Good,
good guys don't go to prison for fraud that way.
Speaker 6 (01:02:05):
Romulus and Remus are the world's first de extinct animals.
Scientists recreated the formerly extinct dire wolf that had been
extinct for over ten thousand years.
Speaker 1 (01:02:17):
So you're saying it was on dire Straits. Oh no,
not not. What's it Sultans of Swing or what's the
other song? Wetefield No, put me in coach. No, that's
not them, that's the outfield. I think, so far away,
so far away away from Yeah, you talk about Dire Straits. Yeah,
(01:02:38):
they've got some good weather rated out underrated uh group.
So basically you're saying that those extinct animals were in
dire Straits. Yeah, pretty much. I mean we saw the
movie Jurassic PARKD Yeah, yeah, and how did that go?
It did well, It was pretty cool.
Speaker 13 (01:02:55):
I liked it.
Speaker 1 (01:02:56):
But it did a lot of good for Samuel L. Jackson.
It wasn't good for saying, not for the guy in
the outhouse. Yeah, Sam Brandon, but Sam Sam Sam was
in like forty minutes for that, poor lamb. Yeah there
you go. So they did what they they made one.
Is that what you're saying.
Speaker 6 (01:03:13):
Yeah, they recreated it complete wolf genome, meticulously reconstructed by
this company, Colossal.
Speaker 1 (01:03:21):
I guess, so when do we get to meet it?
I mean they have been.
Speaker 6 (01:03:24):
They were born in October of last year, which I
had no idea, or I guess in this case closed.
Speaker 1 (01:03:29):
They're going to know, they're gonna keep it. Be careful
because they'll start to want to do that to humans too. Well.
I mean that's the thing.
Speaker 6 (01:03:34):
The animalistic instincts are going to take over, and then
they'll convince the other animals and say, hey, you know what,
these people screw them, man, we run this place, not them.
That's how this starts. Sean does not play it under
the apes starts.
Speaker 1 (01:03:47):
Yeah, man, they created it. Well, they could have made
it simple. They wouldn't have created it was a wolf.
It's a wolf, right, Yeah, why did they just call it? Chuck?
I guess Caswell Norris, he goes a lone wolf. He
is is just think about the wilderness. We can bring
those back to day. You want to ring that bell.
I'm absolutely willing to bring those back. Yeah. Bring Chasmo.
(01:04:09):
Let Chasmo. He's alone, he goes lone wolf. Well let
him let him, uh, you know, prowl around the wilderness
and just keep things for its keep keep it, keep
the jungle straight.
Speaker 6 (01:04:20):
And Chasmo Joe Piscopo f A f O and Sidekicks. Yeah,
he messed around, he found out. You don't want to
you don't not want to mess around and f around
and find out. But Chasmo goes lone wolf. So why
wouldn't we just create a couple more? Do you want
to con yourself? Do you want to clone yourself?
Speaker 7 (01:04:37):
No?
Speaker 1 (01:04:38):
No, no, I got enough problems. Yeah, I'm not sure
that that part of society. The talk we have in
science is something that I really I'm one think about.
I'm one generation. Once I'm gone, there ain't no replicating me.
You're gonna have some people want kids, oh of course, yeah,
but they're not gonna fully be like me. They'll be
a little bit like her. Yeah yeah, so let's hope.
(01:05:01):
So there would probably probably probably better more than me.
Speaker 6 (01:05:04):
You know.
Speaker 1 (01:05:05):
That's we create wolves, and we steal people's money at parties.
That's the thing. That's pretty much a fifty steakhout, that's it.
And two teams lose that we didn't want to lose.
Oh boy, and two former players are both the National
League and American League Player of the Week. Do you
need any more suck in your days?
Speaker 5 (01:05:21):
Say?
Speaker 1 (01:05:22):
If I did somebody just walk into the studio, give
me an enema, and and and cut my nizzutskis and
make me cough. I mean, anything else we need? Do
you want an enema? You need a prostate check? No? No,
get on all those. I mean you might they took everything.
Everything else happened yesterday. You buy as we'll just finish
it up today. I mean, think about that. You had
(01:05:44):
completely hammered yesterday.
Speaker 6 (01:05:45):
And I don't mean drunk, although it probably would have
made it a little bit better, the hangover would have
been at least understandable.
Speaker 1 (01:05:51):
Like what happened what happened here with field Man. I
got sickened for coaching for his team.
Speaker 13 (01:06:00):
For sure.
Speaker 6 (01:06:01):
For sure see a lot of you want to get
in on the Koug's conversation also too, Sean, there it is.
You got the bunters. They're out there, they're they're at
the gates. They they've got the pitchforks, they've got the flames.
Speaker 1 (01:06:12):
That's on you and I am, but I am not
a guy who encourages regular bunting. I am a guy
who thinks about beans that just because social media or
analytics ay, don't bunt, doesn't mean don't bunt anytime. It
just don't bunt all the time just because the guy's
on second. I mean, you got to bun him to third.
But in certain situations, anybody that says you should never
(01:06:34):
bunt is absolutely incorrect. It saved the game for the
Seattle Mariners last night. It just did. And then you
got Jorge Polonko who said, yeah, I'm gonna win the game.
And that's what he did. Joe Joe Po, Joe Blanco, Joe,
there you go, Joe Po.
Speaker 6 (01:06:53):
That's that's probably That's probably what Joe Spott would call
him for sure. All right, but see a lot of
you wanting to get in all those conversations. We'll do
that also to proper context for what happened last night.
In the overall big picture, we'll discuss all that right
here Sean Salisbury Show. But the Sean Salisbury Show continued.
(01:07:15):
Monday sucked. I mean, Mondays are usually awful. Well, this
one was on steroids yesterday. So let's not have that
Monday for a really long time around here, because the
grief is hard enough to be able to deal with,
and we're trying to work through those stages of grief
before I get some of you all on the phone line, Sean,
I brought this up to you during the break. Somebody
out there, you know, for all the people who are
(01:07:37):
all over Cooper Flag for how that game ended.
Speaker 1 (01:07:40):
I mean, look, you have aged fans. It could always
be worse.
Speaker 6 (01:07:43):
You could be Duke, the so called team of the
century that was supposed to be the one that was
going to be cutting down the nets last night, and
they end up losing the game. But somebody just happened.
I guess upon somewhere in Durham, North Carolina, and they're
right there at a golf course, and guess who was
on the driving range, bucket of balls taking some swings.
Speaker 1 (01:08:05):
I imagine cup a flag up, a.
Speaker 6 (01:08:07):
Flag was out there saying, you know what, I could
sit here, I could wallow in this, I could do
all of that. Or you know what, I could throw
the bag in the car, the shoes and go out
there and hit some golf balls.
Speaker 1 (01:08:19):
Well he's just getting used to carrying a bag because
he's about to get a bag.
Speaker 6 (01:08:22):
Oh yeah, right, He's to the point where, you know,
it's like one of those you reach a certain status
in life. You don't cook your own meals, you don't
drive your own cars. You probably even don't even pick
out your own clothing. That would suck to a point,
I think so well.
Speaker 1 (01:08:36):
That would suck. I can't I don't want to do Okay,
would you ever want to be a limo? Would you
ever want to have a guy that you have to
be driven to work every day? Do you want to
drive your own car?
Speaker 6 (01:08:46):
Um? I would say that I would probably do both.
I mean it would be one of those you know,
on a traffic day, you got business to take over,
and you can do business on the drive end.
Speaker 1 (01:08:55):
We're a little nap in the back. Okay. I don't
want to watch your show or do something like that. Yeah,
I don't really needs somebody to go do my grocery shopping.
I prefer to do it now. Who wouldn't want a
professional chef to come and make you a meal? A
meal prep a couple of times a week. But I
like cooking. I like doing that, and I sure as
I don't want tobody picking out my club. I mean
(01:09:16):
it'd be nice. Some of you had to style to say,
hey man, here's a good suit that. Here's the suit
and the tie and the and the handkerchief. You know
your your pocket square that you're wearing with the tie
all that. But I'm talking about like, dude, I can
wipe my own backs, I can brush my own teeth. Well,
I mean I'm not seeing like you know, like full
on like Butler. Yeah. Yeah, it's just somebody to do
(01:09:37):
that once. Oh yeah, it has to have it available
to you.
Speaker 7 (01:09:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:09:41):
But I'm not a go to the grocery store style.
But I kind of like going to the grocertore picking
it out. Don't want to do it unless they're making
some special meal. I don't know, maybe it's just different
for me. I almost feel like when I've had like
a landscape or come and do stuff at my house
and he does it consistently a great guy. But I
also think, Sean, you can do it, you don't have to.
(01:10:03):
I don't know if it's just a free up, you know,
di I y to free up.
Speaker 6 (01:10:06):
Some people that's that's their therapy time, that's the that's
their getaway exactly.
Speaker 1 (01:10:10):
I get it, though. Yes, if there are times you say, man,
I wantn't be great to have a chef coming and cook,
or wouldn't it be great to have somebody to drive
you to work? Yeah, I get what you're saying, But
I don't. I don't know. If you were a billionaire,
would you have all those things? Would you have access
to you? But would you still drive yourself to work?
Speaker 2 (01:10:27):
You wouldn't you?
Speaker 1 (01:10:28):
You would have you'd let somebody do it. I mean,
if you're in the B club, then you probably need
a driver. You do, Yeah, you do. There's too much
for you to lose.
Speaker 6 (01:10:37):
Somebody could see you out there and be like, oh, hey,
you know I could maybe get an insurance claim right here.
Speaker 1 (01:10:43):
I don't need that. I don't need that. You see
me in the back seat, Well, then you got to
still live.
Speaker 5 (01:10:48):
Man.
Speaker 1 (01:10:49):
Oh, I know, I understand that you're going to the
movie theater. Are you staying at home and getting them
all delivered to you? Get them delivered to you so
you won't go to the movies lately, dude, I go
to the movie During COVID, I went to seventy five
movies that year. I go to movies. There was a time, this,
honestly gotcha. I used to keep track. There was a
time when I'd go and watch three movies a day
(01:11:09):
six months out of the year. I mean like three
days a week I'd go watch two or three movies
theater to the point where I needed new movies to
come out. My kids were off at school and I
that's where I would go, and I'd go and I'd
come out and pay and go to the second one.
Pat way. I didn't know Oki'd oaker cheat them. Not
that I need to paddle the back for that, we
all should. But have I been to the movies? I
(01:11:30):
still want to go get the pop I know it's easier,
but I like going to the movies still. After all this,
I still I don't want that taken away from me.
Speaker 5 (01:11:38):
I like it.
Speaker 6 (01:11:39):
It's just it's you know, they soon enough get to
liver a kidney for the tickets and then arm and
a leg.
Speaker 1 (01:11:45):
Oh oh you want some popcorn? You want to drink? Yeah,
that's gonna be this much. If you're a billionaire day
you just said, you said you're in the b where
you can't you're worried about the bucket of popcorn. If
you sign up for it, you get with those other seats,
you get free popcorn. Dad, I go, yeah, boy, When
all I go ahead and have the fixed in cost,
are you get out of the house or do you
want to be a shut in billionaire shut in that's
afraid of his own shadow, can't leave because somebody might
(01:12:07):
slam other brakes that it might cost you did grab
out a bumper with a billion dollars movie with you? Gloraphobia.
I step out. Scott's got to step out. I mean,
I I.
Speaker 6 (01:12:18):
Understand right now that you know the white shirt I'm
wearing matches with the skin.
Speaker 1 (01:12:22):
I get that. The sun's coming out. We're working on it,
We're getting there. Summer body is on. I got you
just making sure. I don't make sure when you you know,
we make our billions, I still want you to go
to the movies. Dan, drive yourself here to work. Well
every once in a while for you, if you make
a billion, do you do this? Do you are you?
Speaker 5 (01:12:41):
Do you?
Speaker 1 (01:12:42):
Are you retiring?
Speaker 13 (01:12:43):
Oh?
Speaker 6 (01:12:43):
No, you guys don't know. No that that's that's the thing.
I will go about my I would go about my
life the exact same way. I guarantee I would too.
And it's one of those I'd be coming out eggs
here and there of being like, man, you know, god,
you know Dan showing up in a maserati, that's that's
pretty nice.
Speaker 1 (01:12:59):
Wrong at your money? Yeah, but I I am one
that I would come to people say no, you wouldn't.
I promise you.
Speaker 6 (01:13:06):
If you want to start rumors of how I'm starting
to get these things, that's fine, I'll let it ride.
Speaker 1 (01:13:10):
Go ahead. I am coming with you. Want I got
the life? Yeah, because I like to say, I like
getting out of bed at three thirty getting I do.
I like coming to work. I don't know. I'd probably
take a few more, you know, you take a more
time off, go to more events and do it all
and help you. Shawn's on a private plane again. How's
that happening? Nice? So it's amazing he gets more time off. Yeah,
you create it just creates freedom to do the things
(01:13:32):
you when you get the B word behind it meaning millionaire,
that bitch right now?
Speaker 6 (01:13:35):
Yeah, you don't want the second. Yeah, no, don't don't
be that one. Don't be that one. dB yeah dB
a b Yeah, don't don't be that.
Speaker 1 (01:13:44):
Don't be that. We got we gotta we gotta rapid
fire of these callers. That's it.
Speaker 6 (01:13:47):
That's it now for sure, going to do that. Get
back into the Koug's conversation. Also to see some of
you want to get in on the astros. We'll do
that right here, Sports Sox seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (01:13:58):
This is the Sean Styles, y'all.
Speaker 1 (01:14:02):
That's utiful.
Speaker 6 (01:14:05):
Maybe Jamal Memorial can rescue us. Jamal, Good morning, buddy.
Speaker 15 (01:14:10):
Okay, how's it going guys.
Speaker 7 (01:14:12):
Uh So, this is my take on the game last night.
I just think that down the stretch, I mean I
never really even when we got up there with digits,
I never really thought we had it in the bag
because Florida's m O was, you know, always coming back
and winning the games that they did to get to
(01:14:33):
where they were. But I was watching the game for
a while it became a hard watch because I mean,
both teams can buy a basket. But what I take
from it was too too many, too many empty positions
down the stretch. I mean, all they really needed was
(01:14:53):
like a basket or two. At some point they couldn't
even get shots attempts off. It was. It was too
many turnovers, the dribble off the foot, the fire line
out of bounds, the block shot that led to to
a uh to the and one bucket going the other way,
and it was just too many possessions where they couldn't
(01:15:13):
even get a shot. And then the last shot of
the game of course the last player of the game.
They can't even get a shot up sometimes and if
you miss a basket, you say, okay, got a good look,
and we just missed. Get back on defense. But when
the Florida went on that seven oh run or whatever
with all the files, and to me, the difference down
(01:15:33):
the stretch was we we we were actually in the
double bonus before Florida, but we our offensive possessions were
so bad we couldn't even get to the strike and
and Florida did. Florida did once they got us.
Speaker 16 (01:15:48):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (01:15:52):
Yeah, I appreciate the College wall. I mean, I mean
everything he just said Sean is is one hundred accurate.
I mean, that's that's the therein lies the rub I mean,
you know you're up by twelve. Florida makes the run.
Well a huge reason for that. And Kelvin Sampson talked
about I think this was when he was talking with
Tracy Wolfson. They all run together after the game. But
(01:16:14):
they started to make shots. U of H was missing
shots and they never shot it well the entire night.
They were about thirty five percent from the field. They
shot six of twenty four.
Speaker 1 (01:16:23):
Yeah, it was not a great shooting night. For either team,
let alone them.
Speaker 6 (01:16:26):
And I mean especially to the two guys that you
would look to. I mean, when Sharp hits that three
in the second half to put them back up by three,
I was like, this, Okay, here we go. This is
going to be like the end of the Duke game.
But to Jamal's point too, I mean about Florida. You
come back from behind in the game against Texas Tech
(01:16:47):
and the Elite Eight to get to the Final four.
You're down by a pretty good margin to Auburn in
the first half, and again you come back in the
second half. I mean, for everything that we gave you
of H credit for and said, oh, Duke was not
prepared for this. U of H has been in this situation.
Speaker 1 (01:17:02):
They know that.
Speaker 6 (01:17:03):
Florida kind of looked at you of H and said, oh, okay,
you want to see how this goes. We'll show you
how this goes because we're a little bit better than
that at.
Speaker 1 (01:17:10):
This than you are, no question about it. And the
second half of Florida. The thing about is do you
think anybody went in a halftime comfortable? Not even close.
If you did, then as a fan, as a media,
as a player, you damn well know that that's not
a comfortable way to go into halftime with that team.
Speaker 2 (01:17:29):
Remember what you.
Speaker 6 (01:17:29):
Talked about yesterday with Duke where you said we're actually
with U of H against Duke, where you said those
three pointers before the half, that was the momentum shift.
Speaker 1 (01:17:37):
Oh, it was no question.
Speaker 6 (01:17:38):
It was the same deal in the first half against Florida,
where you have an eight point lead I think is
as high as you get it and they're able to
make some baskets to cut it to what was it
a three point lead at the half? Whatever it was,
still it was Florida. I think going into the locker
room saying hey, kind of like what Kelvin Sampson said
to his team, you're not playing well, but we're not
down by twenty.
Speaker 1 (01:17:57):
We're in this game. Same thing. What was the biggest
lead of the first thirteen or fourteen? Thirteen? The twelve
point was? Did they get the second? Did they get
the fourteenth? Did they get in the first paid in
the first half they were up at one point either
twelve or thirteen or fourteen points. I can't it was like,
was it like thirty three to twenty or forty three
to thirty. I don't even know if they got to forty.
(01:18:18):
It had They didn't have forty points at halftime, So
was it thirty three to twenty? You of Age's largest
lead was twelve in the second half. I'm talking about
first half. I think it was eight, is what they got?
Are we sure? So it was it? They never got
double digits in the first half lead, No, as far
as I can remember, No, no, they didn't. But still,
(01:18:38):
I mean, gosh, I could have swore they got to
at one point the first half. It wasn't thirty to twenty,
thirty two to twenty, okay, so maybe they got it
up to ten, okay, I thought it was regardless, is
they had a double digit lead the second half as well,
and Florida did what it felt as this if Florida
was it was you're playing into their comfort zone. But
(01:18:58):
it was not a pretty game and it was not
easy for Floorid either. But as you know, as a
caller had mentioned, and they're just possession after possession after possession.
You didn't get there. There were some unforced airs, but
it'd be like in football, the last two possessions of
turning it over in the red zone on the first
one and then the second one. You get a completion,
(01:19:19):
and you're going down to and you don't get a playoff,
and you're staying at the line of scrimmage with the
seconds to go, and you go, oh, you got plenty
of time to snap it, and you don't get a playoff,
and you don't even get a shot at the end zone.
Speaker 6 (01:19:29):
And you're at like the eighteen yard line, you mean,
rolling out to the short side of the field and
trying to throw it to the back pylon. Yeah, that's
always my favorite, right, I always love that one. Yeah, like,
you just gave them a twelfth defender.
Speaker 1 (01:19:41):
There's no questions short in the field and with no
spacing at all, there's no doubt. So that that's that
would be the equivalent of the loss of oh my gosh,
they turned it over in the red zone the possession
before and then they're at the line of scrimmage. Why
not use the timeout or meaning when you snap the ball,
you at least got to get the playoff. And the
(01:20:01):
center's leaning over at the quarterback doesn't get to the
line of scrimmage and doesn't call. He's he's checking in audible,
and the clock rolls out and you're like, what are
you the clock ends and you're like, what are you doing?
That's basically what it felt like last night. But he's
going to take a lot of heat. Unfortunately, the manual
sharp is But he played a really good game, defended
well and did some good things and has the entire
season and the tournament. The tournament, I mean, he's he's done.
(01:20:24):
He hasn't been to your star, but he really has
come through with some with some really really clutch moments
and it's going to be a bummer that that he's
going to have to deal with that. And unfortunately, as
a athlete, you know that you get the good stuff
sometimes and the other stuff growth moments, but you don't
want to be told that right now. The last things.
(01:20:46):
Oh you're going to grow from this one right now.
It sucks. It's just trying to put your arm around
him right now. While it's nice, it's as you see
a lot of teammates wanted to and protect him and
and let him know that he's loved, and it's he'll
going to go through some suffering times, which is a
bummer because he's he's sure is a good player.
Speaker 6 (01:21:03):
And that's the thing though, when you're in that moment,
nobody wants to hear that. Just like you know, you
go through a breakup, I'll try not to think about her. Oh,
thanks appreciate that. Yeah, you know what, I can just
go ahead and men in Black zap myself and I
don't have to think about her anymore.
Speaker 1 (01:21:16):
Yeah, that's exactly how this goes.
Speaker 6 (01:21:19):
Jim Brandon, Al Dominic, Mike Sheena, see you all right there.
We'll get you all board here in the eight o'clock hour.
Also too, I mean, Sean, there are some positives we
can go through that as well, just from the season
as a whole.
Speaker 1 (01:21:32):
We'll do that right here. Sean Salisbury Show, Sports Talk
seven ninety.
Speaker 17 (01:21:36):
KD Houston at HD two Houston, an iHeart radio station,
and the Rocket.
Speaker 2 (01:21:45):
Sports Talk seven ninety your home for your home teams
from the Parsons that Matchine Next studios.
Speaker 1 (01:21:55):
Say, oh, by Salisbury, you did. Okay, let's do this.
Speaker 2 (01:22:02):
Sean Salisbury, USC.
Speaker 12 (01:22:06):
Troup, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 2 (01:22:08):
Dan Matthews, this is the Sean Salsbury Show.
Speaker 6 (01:22:17):
As Big Jay on Twitter just pointed out, it's Master's week.
I mean all of that got lost in the shuffle.
So look, things are turning week. Things are turning for
the positive already.
Speaker 1 (01:22:29):
I love the Masters. Wow, who are you telling starting tomorrow?
Was there? Starting tomorrow?
Speaker 6 (01:22:34):
Every single day the rest of this week, you're going
to see me wearing some sort of Master's article, either
a hat.
Speaker 1 (01:22:41):
You're that guy, huge, You're gonna You're gonna be the
walking billboard for Augusta and ash.
Speaker 6 (01:22:45):
Brother where I was the last ten years before coming
back here. Every basic white guy all throughout the state.
It's almost like Paris Fashion Week. Uh, somebody once said
on social media, and that's so true that every basic
white guy who's ever picked up a golf club in
that state. Lets you know, oh, I've been to Augusta,
or you wear a shirt that you got from somebody
(01:23:05):
else who went Sure people, thank you?
Speaker 5 (01:23:07):
Sure?
Speaker 6 (01:23:07):
Sure, Sure you know I got you. Hey, Look, you know,
as time goes on, the story might change. I mean,
what what what do you care?
Speaker 7 (01:23:14):
We have?
Speaker 1 (01:23:14):
We have no pride. Yeah, let it rip, man, that's
don't think what they want. That's it. Hey.
Speaker 6 (01:23:19):
Sometimes the story is just as goes the truth, right
seven one three, two one two five seven ninety. Let's
go to the south side. Oh, good morning, Now what's
going on? Hey, what's going on got everything's good, buddy.
Speaker 5 (01:23:32):
Yeah, Sean, I'm staying to see it. I'm kind of
like you this morning.
Speaker 13 (01:23:37):
I'm kind of bombed out because sit in the history five, Slama,
Yama or whatever.
Speaker 5 (01:23:43):
When I looked at this game, I don't want to
nit pick.
Speaker 13 (01:23:48):
We can do that all day. If the cooler should
have happened is in the third. But I looked at
it and I went back to old school, Sean, and
this is my take. I I just wish that what
happened to the game, Sean, when we used to watch
back in the eighties, heard the nineties in college and
(01:24:09):
sometime the NBA. Well, a star player demands the ball.
Everybody move out the way. There's plenty of time. I
would like to see Crowder do that. Go get the ball.
Speaker 5 (01:24:20):
We live with you.
Speaker 13 (01:24:21):
We gonna die with you to the end. It's less
pass and the lanes. I ain't knocking shunk, don't get mistaken.
And to the listeners, I'm not knocking team ball. I'm
a team man. I'm a team ball player. But when
each situation at a high level situation, Sean, you know this,
I'm gonna die with the ball in my best player
of pants, even with the you know they shoulder, we
placed the Jordan on the sideline and or still drawing
(01:24:44):
up a play, give it to Michael. You know x's
and o's out the wonder. Y'all move out the way.
Let him cook. That's just what I believe in. I
would like to see Crowder take the initiative, as well
as Sampson not playing the blame game. What happened to
the those good games? What a star gets the ball.
Speaker 5 (01:25:03):
Into his thing? I've seen him, I've seen him break it,
but I don't know all.
Speaker 1 (01:25:10):
I appreciate the call.
Speaker 7 (01:25:11):
Al.
Speaker 6 (01:25:12):
They tried, Sean, they tried, but Florida defended it. And look,
when you're an undersized guy like him, I mean, the
difference between him and a lot of the guys that
Al just mentioned, Michael Jordan what six', Six kobe what six'?
Speaker 1 (01:25:26):
Four whatever? He Was six.
Speaker 6 (01:25:29):
Jordan samsigns they could create, the spacing they could be
able to create, that separation and they could get those.
Shots off when you're an undersized guy, like that you've
got to create a little, bit more and he just wasn't.
Able To and florida made the adjustments. To him and
that's how it.
Speaker 1 (01:25:42):
All WRONGED and i Think what al was trying, TO
say i and we Know that houston wanted the ball in,
his hands is what is the step that you do
take to say the refusal not to get the ball in?
My hands you Know what. I'm saying there's one thing to,
want it it's another thing saying it doesn't matter how.
You defend i'm getting that ball in, my Hands and
i'm going to get. THE look, I mean i get
THE look, i Want but i'm getting. A look i.
(01:26:05):
Get IT and i think they've tried to, Lessons learned
but there was those days when, they'd say here he'll
be the draw up. A play here's the play. Twenty
three take it and. Facilitate it and if you got,
the shot. Take it, if not kick at the curR
and let him knock. It Down Or jimmy, packson right
and that's the way. They Did Or, Craig Hodges judge,
(01:26:26):
bush right or you go and finish and. We'll Go
but Crier's, not jordan and BUT get I get al's
point that they, cleared out give to your, best player
and we're going to live and die with the guy who.
Brung you and there was more than one guy who.
Brung him and last night just, wasn't, It unfortunately and
they put themselves in a Position in florida to the
(01:26:47):
hell of a job defending it and making sure on
a couple possessions that they didn't get any real look at,
the basket let alone hoist. One up they we want
to talk about the Brilliance of texas all. Year, long
uh the second half Performance of florida and their their resilience.
Was impressive and you can be resilient all, you want
(01:27:10):
but the guys can still. Get looks the best way
to prevent a guy from scoring is not lettingim get
the ball in his hands in, any sport or get
a guy to. The plate the best way to Prevent
the texans Or the texas Team the cougars from knocking
their shots down is not letting get. Shot Off and
florida on two straight possessions was phenomenal doing what we're
(01:27:32):
used To The houston cougar's doing to, their opponent.
Speaker 6 (01:27:34):
No doubt about it, again, seOne, three, two, two five Seven,
ninety mike, good morning what's?
Speaker 11 (01:27:39):
Going on.
Speaker 15 (01:27:41):
And?
Speaker 11 (01:27:41):
Good morning hey Reps one.
Speaker 4 (01:27:43):
Cougars zero, you know the first half was toe to
toe second, Half, starts yeah three. Ninety, seconds Uh the
condon kids fouling literally. Every possession Download posted why they
couldn't go? Down low he's literally draped over our guy
on a. Low post would never call the foul? On,
(01:28:06):
him yes kN just had a stat last fifteen to
thirty seconds of, The game florida. Four fouls you have
h fifty, fourteen fouls so a foul per minute in
THE last sis team to have and it's.
Speaker 1 (01:28:22):
A game what was your thought process The different what
was your thought process the first Half When florida florida's
getting hit with him. AND text i Mean the cougars
had what? FOUR fouls, i mean what was your thought
they were balanced?
Speaker 4 (01:28:37):
OUT then, I mean i just the game started. Second
happening it was like a whole different game for.
Speaker 1 (01:28:41):
THE rest i.
Speaker 4 (01:28:42):
DON'T know, I mean i Think the florida Strategy was
we're gonna bother them as much as we can and
deal with the. Fouls later but the fouls, never came
so they just kept doing what they were doing and.
IT Worked, i mean you can't not look at that
part of, the game and it doesn't. Make sense fourteen
thousand four. FIFTEEN minutes, I mean i hate to put
(01:29:03):
it on the red but it was evident in the
first and then and a half of the half of
the second half you have three fouls like They didn't
they didn't even pull the whistle out of.
Speaker 5 (01:29:13):
Their mouths it.
Speaker 4 (01:29:14):
Was RIDICULOUS and I mean florida had.
Speaker 11 (01:29:16):
A pint there was.
Speaker 4 (01:29:17):
One scoring drive that we had Where the florida guy
basically dropped his shoulder and ran our die over and
that fouls.
Speaker 11 (01:29:25):
AND called, i mean there were a penny of.
Speaker 4 (01:29:27):
Opportunities there, Thanks Guys.
Speaker 6 (01:29:29):
Thanks mike. APPRECIATE it, i mean, you know somebody brought
up the. POINT too i. Can't remember phil was the
first of the second technical that eleven fouls were CALLED
on U of h One on florida in that STRETCH
after i think it was the. First ONE but i
mean there were a couple Of calls SEAN that i,
would say, all right, come on what are.
Speaker 1 (01:29:48):
We doing let that.
Speaker 6 (01:29:49):
Play through but when it really comes down, to it you,
KNOW it i, know IT and i understand the offensive
goaltending that. Wasn't called but at the same, TIME time,
i mean it's not the it's not the difference in.
This game you didn't, shoot well you at times did
not defend, as well and you got beat on the
boards and you got all scored inside twenty eight to
(01:30:11):
twenty four points in.
Speaker 1 (01:30:12):
The paint so what are we talking about at a. Certain,
point well, and listen refs have a hand. In it
if you're On the duke is pissed over what Happened
on saturday all so Much that cooper flags hitting golf
balls on. The, DRIVER yeah, i MEAN and, I listen
i understand the plight of why we were all frustrated
because it was it was it was an odd way
(01:30:33):
that they that they did their that the referees went about.
Their business but you could hear the broadcasters we're talking
how Foul free houston was in the. First half it's
the consistency throughout the game that. Bothers Me, and I'VE like,
I said i'll continue to say it, TO me a
foul is always a foul when. He's fouled does that? Make,
(01:30:56):
sense yeah you don't just let them play if. Somebody's
FOULING so i get, the frustration, without question get. The
frustration but one thing it's hard for me to buy
into is saying that the reason that they lost last
night was just based on. The officials fishers had nothing
to do with not getting your shots off the last.
Two possessions there was no foul the last. Two possessions
(01:31:18):
and when you step on, the baseline or when you
kick a ball off, your knee or when you get
give baskets. In, transition listen you keep it in the
sixties that they usually would Favor A houston. Cougar's team
they just didn't shoot as well as we saw them
shoot to send To send duke home and to take Care.
Of tennessee they just didn't shoot. As well, and listen
(01:31:41):
it's going. To happen the other team's on. Scholarship Too
and florida has been one of the better Teams, in
america hence why they were the favorite going in by
a buck and, a half which a lot of Them
like florida's. A favorite. That's how and the guys who
build hotels and casinos and where you play your blackjack,
Aren't stupid so NOT saying, i mean and they had
every chance, to win did You? Vers houston but the, compartmentalizing,
(01:32:02):
possessions man that's why, we think oh you get twelve possessions,
In football so, that's okay we. Got more then you
look back, and say the first two possessions we had,
to punt they flipped, the field and then we threw
an interception in our. Owned end they.
Speaker 5 (01:32:14):
Go up we.
Speaker 1 (01:32:15):
Never recovered cougar's had plenty. Of opportunities referees were not
great by any stretch of. The IMAGINATION but i refuse to.
To it would It diminishes florida's effort, and performance but
IT also i don't think that's the way that. He
could you're gonna go back and look think about How
Bad danny, hurley was how pissed he was in, his
game and you let, Us know yes. HE did, i
(01:32:36):
mean he Was beyond so what happens. Every game so
somewhere along the line, technical fouls people, are, fighting arguing
and the discrepancy in the first half and description in
the second half was almost like they had a. Makeup
call we didn't get much the, first half so let's
make sure we go get after it in the. Second
Half in. FLORIDA'S favor i don't think they consciously thought.
Of IT and i get the lament and the bothersome
(01:32:57):
part of it for fans that they lost the game
for more reasons than an officials calls, LAST night i,
assure you and they. Know that and it's just a
bummer because they had this thing stone, COLD dead i
mean dead to rights and let it slip. Away slowly
but that's what good teams Do in florida's been doing
that in the second half on a. Regular basis they're
(01:33:17):
a new team in the, second half and they they
got the calls that you would have liked to you
know that sometimes That The houston cougar's got early in.
The game it was just they were better at the
end Than the cougars were. Last night and it's the.
Speaker 6 (01:33:29):
Simple, FACTS well, i mean you want to talk narratives
about this and just the entire weekend of you of
ahed in the, final four we can. Do that coming
up also to we will get Into some astros talk
here in at the eight, o'clock HOUR because i feel
like something has finally been realized With this. Astros team
we'll discuss that. Right Here, Sheena Conrad. James brandon see all,
(01:33:52):
right there stick. And stay we'll get to you coming up.
Right Here Shawn Salisbury Show sports talk seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (01:33:59):
Sean three show Continues On sports talk seven ninety home
for your.
Speaker 1 (01:34:06):
Home teams, Good, morning conra. What's up, good morning and
we're in all.
Speaker 11 (01:34:12):
Black today SO the.
Speaker 18 (01:34:17):
I thought the referees did a pretty good job, Me
personally and the FIRST thing i noticed is they're letting
them play, this game and they were very fair when
they went back to. The, replace yes they Missed, the
goulton you know they. Sure, did now this IS what i.
Think happened the Coach in florida told his team to
(01:34:37):
come out and start making some intentional physical fouls and
this forced the referees to start calling the. Game tighter
and that's exactly what that coach wanted to happen because
it slowed the. Game down they took the koops out of.
Speaker 7 (01:34:56):
Their rhythm that was an.
Speaker 18 (01:34:58):
Intentional a technique to change the psyche of. The referees
THAT'S what.
Speaker 1 (01:35:06):
I think appreciate.
Speaker 6 (01:35:08):
THE call i mean we talk about it all the Time,
AND sean i mean using a football, Example, here oh
the weather's going to be really bad.
Speaker 1 (01:35:15):
Up there the weather's gonna be.
Speaker 6 (01:35:16):
Really bad What Is demiko ryans and pretty much any
coach say in, That, situation well both teams got to play.
IN it I mean i talked About it florida a couple.
Of technicals they didn't like the way the game was.
Being officiated but somewhere along the way there was a
rallying cry on that Sideline with, florida, saying, hey look
if this is how it's going to, be officiated we've
got to play the game a. Certain way, and you
(01:35:37):
OF h i think they kind of looked at it
as we can't be as physical and it got in.
Speaker 1 (01:35:41):
Their, heads well you'd say the result bear that bore?
That out.
Speaker 5 (01:35:47):
Did it?
Speaker 1 (01:35:47):
CHANGED it i also just, THINK that, i mean sometimes
you just got to think that some teams take the
l and the other team played better in the. Second
half are we any if we doubted How good florida
is coming out of the second? HALF tunnel, i mean they've.
BEEN fantastic i want to say it was four straight
games that they. DID this, I, mean yukon they. Did
It they familiarity is important in. All phases familiarity. Without distractions,
(01:36:12):
you know familiarity with your favorite, pregame meal familiarity, with
arenas familiarity with. Your Teammates and i'm telling you now
that they this was not a shock to them to
be in the position they. WERE in i almost think
they embrace it and, expect it and they kicked ass
in the. Second half we're all looking for a reason
(01:36:33):
the while go deeper than. One reason it's not, just
sharp it's not, just officials it's not just, you know.
They're shooting it's a, you Know acumulative but, it always
in our mind comes down to the last, few possessions
and that's what we. Focus on you can go back
to the first half and think about opportunities to put
it away and extend a lead where they, you know
rattled one in, and out turned the, ball over didn't
(01:36:55):
get back on, a transition any of. Those things, you,
say okay Extendedly and i'm assuming they in their mind
thought we got extended lead because This. Is florida they're
not going to. Go Away but florida didn't show, any
signs and especially The way clayton was being stopped and
they were defending his and contesting everything. He did they
never showed in the, first say fifteen minutes of the,
(01:37:17):
twenty minutes they really didn't. SHOW much i don't want to,
say fight but didn't. Show much it tells you that
this was. The game they were going to shoot their
way back. Into it but in the process of missing
and going you, know where you're not scoring on your.
Transition points and then, You know houston loves to play
in the, half court and if you're not knocking down
shots and getting, offensive rebounds and they had twelve at,
(01:37:38):
ONE point i don't know what they ended up with
on the, offensive glass but when we Think about houston
usually dominates. The rebounding look at. THE numbers I think
florida out rebounded.
Speaker 15 (01:37:48):
HIM.
Speaker 1 (01:37:48):
Overall, us yeah we had a, rebounder two but they
did free. THROW percent, i mean there's a lot of
different ways to look. At it but they just didn't
assert themselves in the first the second half the way
they did in the first half and the way they
did in the second half Of the. Duke game there
was Too many it was a little it was a.
Little rickety they were just in, second half it was
(01:38:09):
it looked like they this team does not, play passive
and at times on the, offensive end there was some,
you know it looked a little passive because they were
attacking the backboards and getting long tip. BACK outs, i
mean how many times they do that in first half
which has been a specialty of. This team tip it
back out and get. Another possession and when you get,
a second, third Possession normally houston closes. That out they
(01:38:33):
didn't close those possessions out in the in the last handful.
Of minutes they surely didn't close the possessions out that they,
wanted to and, you know ran them off the. Right
spot and there there other guys ended up performing better
Than the houston's other guys late in the game and throughout.
The game one score and double figures for the For.
The cougars hard to Win the national.
Speaker 6 (01:38:53):
Title game it's the football example of you settle for.
Field goals it's the baseball example of, a man we
missed an opera ortunity. RIGHT there i hope those runs
we left out there don't come back to. Hurt, us
yeah three run leagues better than a two, run lead
that extra insurance run as we call it. In baseball
astros could have used one of those, Last.
Speaker 1 (01:39:12):
Night yes they. Could have and when it comes down
to one possession or one at bat that can change.
The game you never want it to be. Like that
somebody runs. Into one and, both games for the, most
part came down to that the bunt moved two people
over base hit driving to get out. Of it win,
At Home houston cougar's out of, the game boom. Comes
(01:39:34):
down you get a couple possessions down, the stretch and uncharacteristic,
of them not one getting the shot off to win
the game at the end where, they lost and. The
decision it's not even the execution obviously didn't, work out
but the journey and Decision that. SHARP made i was
actually more disappointed in the in the, trip before driving
(01:39:56):
and dribbling. Into traffic there was nowhere, to go and
he got triple teamed. ON it, i mean he was
in trouble from. The start this one was just a
great smart Play. By florida what are you? GONNA do,
i mean caught you. In between he just got caught
in between and at the left ball or it was
gonna get, blocked anyway so you weren't going to get
the shot. Off anyhow but the trip before. Bothered me
it was it was it was a desperation dribble with this.
(01:40:18):
Head down that's the one that it probably bothered. Me
more the last one's going to stick out simply because
it was the last play of. The game they always.
Speaker 6 (01:40:26):
Stick out well did some astros here in? A second,
but Uh if biscuit wants the, Weigh, in biscuit. Good
morning what's up.
Speaker 1 (01:40:34):
A?
Speaker 16 (01:40:35):
Going home?
Speaker 19 (01:40:35):
Going on MY Brothers, A sean, you're right. Exactly right
it's usually a combination of things that contributes to, a,
Loss me Dan.
Speaker 16 (01:40:44):
And Sean what i'm looking at is number seven for
the For.
Speaker 1 (01:40:48):
The, cougars uh if you looked.
Speaker 19 (01:40:51):
At the alabama loss And the alburn loss, early year
this game last night was kind of like a carbon
copy of.
Speaker 16 (01:40:57):
Those games us getting, the.
Speaker 19 (01:40:59):
Lead not holding on to, the lead and then the
other team come back. And win and a lot of
times when you can't get plays or you turn the,
ball over it falls back to the point guard and
who's just played a.
Speaker 11 (01:41:12):
Terrible game and you Know what.
Speaker 16 (01:41:15):
I'm saying and so now you get people having to
play different roles and they normally. Play okay so It's,
now sharper who's a catch and. Shoot guy now he's trying,
to drive you Know what. I'm, saying, so uh it's a.
TOUGH loss i know, the coaches like he talked, About
it man not to get a shot up.
Speaker 7 (01:41:33):
In the last.
Speaker 16 (01:41:33):
Four possessions that's what, Hurts man that's what hurts. The
coaches if, the referees he can throw that out, the window,
you know and some of the.
Speaker 19 (01:41:42):
Other stuff but you.
Speaker 16 (01:41:44):
Got to get a, shot. Up man you got to
give yourself. A chance and you know Me shot I'm
in dan and boy. A ball figure that dude go right.
By you then you can take a dribble over and
you can. Shoot it caught it and turn and try
to stow. It up, you, know, no man you gotta access.
Speaker 1 (01:41:59):
The, situation yeah take it to, the bag you, give
ahead fake put, one ball put it on a deck.
One time you, still have, you know the time to hoist.
It up and they didn't need, a three but to
hoist it up with a chance. To win and you're.
Exactly right is he did not have his best two
games the last two games offensively and he. Just, DIDN'T
yeah i appreciate, The.
Speaker 6 (01:42:19):
CALL biscuit i mean it's one of those TWO that
i think he kind of fit into a role that
he wasn't necessarily comfortable with early on, the season and
then he started to get rolling.
Speaker 1 (01:42:27):
With it but they turned it over to him, and
said you've got to go demand this.
Speaker 6 (01:42:30):
And you got TO do, i mean we understand You're Not,
jamal shed but we need somebody to kind of fit,
that role and he fit. That category and another thing
is too is you know the last foul There where
florida goes to the line to make one. Of two
is that the ball that was thrown in front of
the offensive Player. FOR florida i mean that's one of
THOSE that, I Mean, emmanuel sharp it's kind, of, like
(01:42:51):
dude crash on.
Speaker 1 (01:42:52):
That ball get. That ball that's. A, steal yeah and
you saw. THE result i mean it just. It was
and he and biscuits one hundred, So right sharp said
it best when you can drive and kick. To him
and he's a spot up three guy and a long
ring and he's. Got range and you know there are
players who just don't do. Both well and you know
(01:43:13):
you're point guard who turned it over to just he
just had he had a rough govid offensively for a
couple of games and, and uh, You Know sharp Boors
and burden and did some really. Good things it's unfortunate
that the last two possessions are going to define. The
tournament uh maybe. For some and he played well enough
in plenty of games and contributed enough for us to,
say thanks men out have been here in, this situation
(01:43:35):
and somebody's got to be. A hero somebody's got to be. A,
goat unfortunately the g word the goat wort falls on
THE and i don't even like to use it because
it was it WAS a, i mean there's. Too too
it was a, great fistfight. Man exactly But the cougars
themselves are gonna you'll wear this for, a while and
it's okay to wear it for, a while but then
you got to get back. At it but it's it's going.
Speaker 6 (01:43:56):
To, FESTER well, i mean you and c You're. In
houston they lost. By heartbreak the following Year, against gonzaga
they won the. National title so it, Can, happen yes.
Speaker 1 (01:44:06):
It can it.
Speaker 6 (01:44:06):
Can happen, all right we'll get back INTO the U
of h conversation here as the show, goes along but
definitely want to get Into. Some astros sena agrees, with
you so we'll get involved in some Of the astros. Offensive,
conversation also something on the pitching to talk about here
with the hometown. Baseball team we'll do That Here Sean.
Speaker 1 (01:44:25):

Speaker 1 (01:46:12):
I got a question for. Our peeps what's? That is
anybody depressed over what they saw? LAST night i don't
get Depressed it i'm. JUST serious, i mean does Anybody
feel i'm having? A kickstar I mean i got energy
and stuff and anytimes like it's such, a bummer IS
any i don't usually let sports affect me. Like anyone, try,
everyone everyone call me in and tell me your biggest
(01:46:33):
how are? You, FEELING man i don't even need the
excess and of how. THEY lost i, saw It and
i'm gonna go watch it Again because i'm, an IDIOT
because i want to just. Feel it you're gut, FOR punishment,
i AM BUT i. I do i was so bummed.
LAST night i turned it off before one. SHINING moment
i never missed one. SHINING moment i didn't. WANT to
i didn't want to see the celebration and the the
tears and. The unfortunate, you know the way you saw
(01:46:56):
his elbows on his knees and his hands and his
head in his hands WITH sharp i felt horrible. For
him but it's a sports everybody coming out of, a
game somebody's feels bad, for somebody and somebody's elated. For
somebody if, you're depressed that's just such a weak word
too when it comes. To sports IT'S like i feel
SOFT when i, Say THAT but i don't get depressed,
on SPORTS and i just don't my golf GAME when
(01:47:17):
i snap puk a drive and drive. ME nuts i
got to play. A team i'm getting my ass kicked in.
A wind but that's more pissed than, it is, you
know you know it. Was sad it's not. Even said
i'm Just it's i'm bummed the energy. Got zapped not
that they're worried, about us BUT because i feel. For
them it's not because, it's like kind of dare you
guys took? Our championship? Boy out they're putting their ass on.
(01:47:39):
The line they didn't take. Anybody's chance they put their
ass on the line and.
Speaker 11 (01:47:42):
Got.
Speaker 1 (01:47:42):
Beat Happens but i'm just it's just it's. Gut, wrenching well.
Speaker 6 (01:47:48):
Soon enough if you're a rational, ENOUGH person i think
you look back on how you reacted to your favorite
team losing and you're.
Speaker 1 (01:47:53):
Just kind, of like, all right that was kind.
Speaker 6 (01:47:55):
Of DUMB and, i Mean now i'm not saying that
anybody lost their minds last Night that i'm, aware OF but,
i mean, you know you kind of get away from,
the situation the, emotions SUBSIDE and I mean i think
that probably you will have people, who say WITH this
U of, h team.
Speaker 7 (01:48:09):
Oh you, know what.
Speaker 1 (01:48:09):
GOOD season, i know but nobody wants to hear that. Right, now, no, no, no,
no yeah, the players of course it was a. Good,
season yeah they got to be upbeat and let's root.
Them on it's all fine a week. From now, right
now it's okay to fashion and it's okay to. MOURN over,
I mean i'm not saying it's a death, of somebody
but it still matter. To them it's okay to feel
crappy about it as, a player, a coach a school without,
(01:48:30):
pointing fingers although because everybody had a hand, in it
not just one cat who didn't get off the. Last
SHOT but i, Just wonder i'm just kind of tongue,
in cheek but is anybody feeling zapped to the forget just.
BEING tired i don't talking about zapped your energy Like
that kid's, just like oh, MY gosh i can't believe.
Speaker 6 (01:48:45):
What, HAPPENED well, i mean, you know sports heartbreak and.
ACTUAL heartbreak i feel like go hand. In hand and,
it's like, YOU know i told you the friend or
family member that tells you try not to think, about
her you, Resent them you.
Speaker 1 (01:48:55):
Resent them they don't want to. HEAR that i don't
want to.
Speaker 6 (01:48:56):
HEAR it i had an aunt of mine WHO after
i had a, break up which eventually it, worked out
but at the time. IT sucked, im saying, YOU know
i always really enjoy you being. THE happiest i told,
MY mom, I said i'm not talking to.
Speaker 1 (01:49:07):
Her for a really. Long time what happened To? Your
zoid it didn't work out on, MY end i screwed.
The pooch yeah it. Was, me yeah when did you
pay your chest? LIKE point i did your chest and
point like? My BAD yeah, i DID eventually. I did,
but yeah getting the way at some point one, THOUSAND.
Speaker 6 (01:49:27):
Percent i was in my early TWENTIES and i was
even more IMMATURE than i, am now which is not.
Saying much sozoid. Just, walked, yeah no she she absolutely elected.
Free agency BUT then, i, saw like, you, know now
it's funny enough she's with a much.
Speaker 1 (01:49:40):
Older guy is?
Speaker 14 (01:49:41):
He?
Speaker 1 (01:49:42):
Hot no?
Speaker 20 (01:49:43):
You?
Speaker 1 (01:49:43):
Sure no It's.
Speaker 6 (01:49:45):
Basically christy swanson from what's? It Called From? Big, daddy
yeah he's got a ten.
Speaker 1 (01:49:50):
Year plan what?
Speaker 13 (01:49:51):
Is it?
Speaker 1 (01:49:51):
Don't? Die whoa you can't do that to. Your course
i've got a, live microphone. DAMN you i can DO whatever.
I please is? He pack you talked to him about.
Speaker 6 (01:50:03):
Somebody showed me, a picture and you know it's like
one of those you're in a much, Better situation BUT clearly.
I am i'm in an absolutely much. Better situation, and
look it all works out for the Best and i'm
so happy.
Speaker 1 (01:50:13):
About it but would you would you date him if
you were a? Good, girl no. You wouldn't no is?
Speaker 11 (01:50:18):
He does, he Is.
Speaker 1 (01:50:19):
SUGAR daddy i have. NO idea i haven't talked. TO
her i haven't talked to her. In years but what
you could either neither confirm nor deny is what.
Speaker 6 (01:50:26):
You're saying i'm just, saying that you know you you
don't want to, draw assumptions but it's just kind of
like some of.
Speaker 1 (01:50:32):
The overall interesting scheme. Of things you screwed, it up
but you're glad.
Speaker 6 (01:50:36):
YOU did i was, GONNA say i think that there
was something in the universe, That, said dan go ahead
and take the dive.
Speaker 1 (01:50:40):
RIGHT here, i did and it. Worked. Out uh you
mentioned something About the astros game last night that that
that you, LIKE chat, i asked but. IT was i
thought it was brilliant because we talked about. It yesterday
there's a time and a place for everything. In sports
bunting is of lost art and we don't need a lot,
of it but you need. It sometimes Crawford and seattle
(01:51:01):
executed the perfection after we talked about moved runners over,
novel concept base hit novel concept with runners in scoring
position and you win a game because.
Speaker 6 (01:51:09):
Of, it well maybe she school matters once in. A while,
for Sure maybe sheena agrees. With you, Good, morning sheen appreciate.
Your patience what's?
Speaker 11 (01:51:15):
Going on.
Speaker 20 (01:51:16):
Good morning, SO yeah i heard your, conversation Earlier and
i'm a big proponent of small ball and actually feel
like the lost art is, too lost not. Use ENOUGH
but i wanted to point out while You're giving, seattle
props you need to give credit where credit. Is due,
Eighth inning myers gets a leadoff Single and dooby bumps
him to second.
Speaker 5 (01:51:36):
Base.
Speaker 20 (01:51:36):
Successfully Yep then Al two bay Gets OUR myers, i
think gets to third on a. Wild pitch Al two
bait gets on with a walk, still second which puts
them in the, position where, oh yeah first base.
Speaker 1 (01:51:49):
Is open your, dawn's up we're going to.
Speaker 20 (01:51:50):
WALK in I think perettas got out on line drive that,
was caught so base is Low with christian, walker up
and that's how we scored. Two, runs yep they called it,
an air but it could have probably gone either Way
because walker's hit at one hundred and six exit below.
On It so astros is. RIGHT there i just felt
like you needed to give them some. Love, too well
you know what we, are effectively but, my.
Speaker 1 (01:52:12):
Thing and it's not Even. THE astros i was talking
about all. Of baseball we have gone to we we
have gone away from doing. Just that and you see
it two times in the. Same game, and FINE and
i was watching the. BASKETBALL game i didn't watch every
pitch Of the. ASTROS game i didn't even remind The
dude dubon bunted. LAST year i went back and saw
the summary. Of IT but, i MEAN like i didn't.
(01:52:33):
Watch it That's what. I'm saying, he watched he watched.
THE summer i was had, it up but my focus
was on basketball and basketball and and she and you're
one hundred, percent RIGHT but i DIDN'T even i didn't
even see the. Live bet, go on you have to
go read the summary and moved. Him, Over fine i'm
just talked about the, game winner and it was an overall. Bunting,
thing listen the HELL of i don't want to take
(01:52:53):
the bat out of guy's hands ninety five percent. Of
time but there are times and when you've got, no
outs runs on first, and second a two hundred hitter
who's got better bat control than a guy who's a
forty home, run guy just to get the, ball down
see you have. A chance and it ended up being.
The difference, And yes i'll give credit wre credits, to
THEY and i think they want to play more small
ball here when they, have to and they may they
may have to, at times but overall, in baseball my point,
(01:53:16):
she is we just don't do it very. Much right
even there's teams last night with, no outs runners on first,
and second they would not, Have bunted they would not
have tried to move the run over, via bunt just
had taken the. Bat out but it. Was logical but
those are the Times when sheena makes a, great point
and she's obviously adept. At BASEBALL but i didn't, see
IT or i would, have, said oh good. FOR them i,
(01:53:37):
saw it like, you said you read the box score
and you go, through it watch. The GAME but i
didn't watch hardcore until, until that until the basketball game
until My and i'm still not over it and tuned
into that and saw the end and Saw what crawford
did and saw the base hit and the rest. Of
it that's THAT'S when i tuned in and to bray
you in. The game but it. Is good they got
(01:53:57):
to play it and it led to, you know it
led to runs in both sides with both teams. Last
night so we, don't know we're not going to reinvent
it and start doing it eight times, a game but
in both situations it served them well and both players got.
It down it just happened to be a little more
a bigger one Because of seattle the timing, of it
and then ended up winning the game with the Base
at sheena. Knows ball she, one does, you know she
(01:54:19):
calls in. A lot She shea's sheena is very very.
Baseball savvy That's that's that's another one of the. Favorite
sayings that's on the side of. The refrigerator they, Know
ball yes. They do so. She's RIGHT so i didn't
see the, Du bond but that adds to. The, point
smart in, smart situations being able to move the runner
over is. A must AND sometimes i mean and my
(01:54:41):
point yesterday was professionals should be able to do, it
better even if you don't do, it more you should
be able to do it better than, we do because
eighth graders can bunt better than because they probably working
on it a. Little more but it's a it's a
lost part of, the game and when you do execute
it sometimes. We're shocked but it worked in both cases,
last night just in a bigger way because of the
(01:55:01):
timing Of the seattle Bunt and crawford getting it down
and then clutch hitting to Drive into that's. What, Happens man.
Just produce that's all we.
Speaker 6 (01:55:09):
Ask produce and the astros time's been able to do
it and at times have not been Able TO. Brandon
Jb john see you guys right there a couple of
astros that raise your level. Of concerns we'll talk about.

Speaker 2 (01:56:28):
Sean salisbury show continues.
Speaker 5 (01:56:30):
To, continue.
Speaker 1 (01:56:32):
Yeah it's gotta, be energetic but but it's got to
be understated because your voice is, you know you don't
have to use your decibel level doesn't have to. Change
much you get excited on a winning pot or a,
big putt but for the, most part it's that's quickly
to Eighteen, and jim you don't get It to jim
Nance and Jim's With. Trevor, emmlman yeah, You know tiger's
(01:56:53):
got to fit. Man right, You, know scotti the defending
champion's got a. Fifteen footer it's going to roll slightly
from his right to.
Speaker 6 (01:56:58):
His left you Don't be gary, McCord though, you know
saying these greens are like, bikini wax because those stiffs
Over At augusta national, they'll, say, You sir he.
Speaker 1 (01:57:08):
Said yeah and he ALSO and i don't know what's wrong,
with that, but, No no i'm talking about the Way
that gary, said it because he was always, a wordsmith
You like farady was And his but he, also said
you hit, it there you better have a good supply of. Body,
BAGS also i mean a certain place where you. Hit
it you had no, shot right which is great. Golf
(01:57:30):
lingo once they, ESCORTED him i mean. They didn't that
was his. Last broadcast do you realize he hasn't. Been,
back yeah not only do broadcast has not. Been back and.
McCord was I thought. GARY McCord i Still think gary
McCord would heighten. GOLF broadcast i think he's. Frigging awesome but,
those verbids so there's a little you're gonna do It
the augusta way, or nothing so you don't have to be.
(01:57:51):
Energetic Time but jim's got the, perfect voice you know
that the voice that you want to listen to On
a Sunday, and saturday moving Day. On sunday, but, Energy
well jim's a so while his gut's still, Gonna ache
i'm sure It. Is augusta if you're gonna. Go anywhere
it's either back home to his home when what the
eighteenth Fairway at pebble and he enjoyed that, golf turnat
(01:58:11):
or Go, to augusta, which, is well this week's one
of the great weeks, In golf so you, go There
and i'm sure that's that will always help when you're
around people that you like to. Be around it, kind of,
you know softens the give you a little. Softer landing
And It's, augusta national so he has no choice but to.
Do THAT but i would imagine when he's sitting there
having a beer and the fellows, are, saying dude? What
(01:58:32):
happened because IT'S a cbs, event anyway so all of them.
Watch it I'm sure jim came to. Their mind the
broadcast crew. In places, Oh man NaN's a couples is.
Out there couples is a. Uh, guy yeah, so yeah it's, a,
bummer man. A Bummer but jim. Willhandle it he's, a, pro,
no no no doubt.
Speaker 6 (01:58:49):
ABOUT it, i mean, you know you Just, At augusta
you've got to. Watch OUT like i Said For, judge Smales,
Doctor Beeper. BISHOP bickering I Mean judge smales with the
wax build up on, his, SHOES.
Speaker 1 (01:58:59):
Agains i can get. Parking, Spot dude you're not allowed
to run from hold to Hold. AT augusta. I know
so yeah that, that that, but man what a tournament and. The,
undulation yeah they'll. Handle It but I'm sure jim's woke
up this MORNING or i don't know if he flew
in last night or, this Morning but i'm sure it's
not a there's that pit and his stomach for his,
(01:59:20):
alma mater but also For coach sampson and. Those Kids
so jim's seen a lot of it as, A broadcaster
he's seen both sides of, it regularly and then it
hit him as a As an alumit of proud alum.
Last night, i'm sure.
Speaker 6 (01:59:33):
No, DOUBT well i know it's hitting a lot of,
YOU two Jb. And john we'll get to you all
here in just. A second With the, Astros, THOUGH sean
i mean depleted bullpen, last night they have to Go
With taylor scott in the. Seventh Inning and i'm a
Huge tailor. Scott guy but, The, Butt, dan yeah here's.
The butt the shelf life is run out as him
(01:59:54):
as as a high. Leverage guy he's a, guy now
and you look, at THAT and i understand, hindsight's twenty
but a situation, like That We're, Steven, oker.
Speaker 1 (02:00:03):
Okay why he was warming up in? A bullpen i
know that they got. Him, up okay so he was
your guy, last year and we're a handful of games
in a couple handfuls of Games in why are you
already quitting? On him he's not getting, guys out he's not.
Throwing strikes but so it. Doesn't Apply just i'm Being
the devil's advocate about how people would ant respond. To,
(02:00:24):
that sure, It's, EARLY dan i, get that but it's
also too that's the second part. Of this i'm getting
concerned About, yanr diaz, It's, Early, DAN well i mean
it's also not too early to Find a. RAN McNally
i mean it's a little dated, reference there but it's the.
Ram McNally by, the way it would be. A, map,
(02:00:45):
yeah yeah people used to, use those the maps when. You,
drive yeah it wasn't just On. Your, yeah, Yeah, yeah dan.
IT'S early i get.
Speaker 4 (02:00:52):
ALL that i.
Speaker 1 (02:00:53):
TRUST me i think you're going to hear people, say,
That right you're got my. Point that but if they,
were Raking if diaz was hitting four, hund hundred we
wouldn't say. It's, early no, we'd say off to a
great sus that's who this, guy is, Right exactly so
you should. Be concerned the guy looks nothing like he did,
last year and it. Is early And, WITH scott i
just wondered if is it mechanics you see or is
(02:01:14):
it just simply the result you. Don't, like no it's pretty.
Speaker 6 (02:01:17):
MUCH all, i mean if he's not, throwing strikes that's
got to, be, mechanical sure. Or mental but IT'S also
i mean what he gave you. Last year with, certain
guys you kind of look at him and, you say
let good enough.
Speaker 1 (02:01:27):
Be good so you think it's like the backup who
came in and had, one year one, good year and
then realizes that he got discovered after, a while and
that the flaws start to show why he was, a
bingo why he was a journeyman in the. First place to,
think bingo bingo all.
Speaker 6 (02:01:42):
Of, it, Yes ABSOLUTELY and I mean i understand you
Don't Have, Josh hater you're kind of limited in who
you can go with in. Those SPOTS but i without
Listening To joe aespota in the, Post game i'm sure it.
Was matchups i'm sure it was all. Of that but
a Guy Like stephen okert who has come in and
has shown you he can get right, hands out he
can get left, handers out he, throws strikes he's he's.
(02:02:03):
HE'S efficient, i mean in a high leverage spot, LIKE
that i got a one, Run lead THAT'S who.
Speaker 1 (02:02:09):
I need THAT'S who.
Speaker 6 (02:02:10):
I want i'm not looking for somebody to work themselves
out of a situation in, that spot.
Speaker 1 (02:02:13):
Wrong. PLACE man i know we. Want spots we, said
now we said going in that this year would be
a What's what i'm The word i'm looking for is
this would be a year of at least to start
this season of trying to find multiple bodies to see
who's going to fit. The seventy he was the guy
going in and you'd think that's, His. Role scott but
with the way it's gone on You, mentioned ochred is
(02:02:35):
it a seventh by committee until you find the guy?
You want only far enough along to establish that's one guy's.
Speaker 6 (02:02:42):
JOB now i Think that joe handles it as committee,
Right NOW but, i mean you don't think they want.
To know. They don't eventually they want to find somebody
that can fill, that role at least that they can
count on enough in. That role and for, my money
he Would. Be OKRED and i know that they've gone
a Lot With, brian KING but, i MEAN when i
need some outs, RIGHT there i. NEED strikes i need
to be able to get those final six outs the
(02:03:03):
ballgame and close that thing OUT that i need my
best guys. Out THERE and i understand that, you're LIMITED
but I mean i just as SOON as I Saw
taylor scott's got THE eighth i was, just, like, ah,
MAN like, I hope and that's The situation SEAN that
i can't be IN where I say. I hope that's
a Situation where i've got, TO say i believe you
(02:03:23):
can Beat With steven okert. That spot then, it's like you, Know,
what hey the guy's. Been, pitching well he had an.
Speaker 1 (02:03:28):
Off night. That happens that has not been the case
nearly Going Where. Taylor scott it also gets the point
you want, to say, YOU go I hope I believe i,
KNOW well, I mean i mean the second one is
a great step to get.
Speaker 6 (02:03:38):
To right and that's what, you Know the astros trying
to work, themselves through so hopefully they can bounce. Back tonight, come,
ON guys i mean we, need. IT man, i mean
last night was enough. GUT punches i Felt Like manny
pacio against One Men.
Speaker 1 (02:03:50):
Will.
Speaker 6 (02:03:50):
MARQUEZ man i mean it's, just like how much can
we get? Punched, tonight well we found out in a
hard a lot of them right to the, gut, too
man and then finally went right to, the temple and
unfortunately we did not sleep very well because.
Speaker 7 (02:04:03):
Of IT.
Speaker 1 (02:04:03):

The.
Speaker 6 (02:06:52):
Show gordy normally we talked ash shows, with you but
last night a little bit of a. Different assignment you
were There In san antonio and you saw. It all
you saw the coups go up by twelve in the,
second half and then of course you saw the end.
Of IT just, i mean, for you when do you
feel like it kind of started to fall away?
Speaker 1 (02:07:10):
From them.
Speaker 14 (02:07:13):
When when florida went on that run and got, it
tied it felt like. Not good and with about four minutes,
to go, you KNOW really i think it was about five,
minutes ago it felt like every time you of h hit,
a shot Here comes florida right, back right they hit a.
Big three, you're, like, oh okay we're. Up three and
then on the, other end, you know it's a shot
(02:07:35):
in an and One and. Florida ties it just felt,
like they, you know they responded With, every haymaker and,
you know it felt like really in those last, two minutes,
you know it was just kind. Of gaging asking some
of the other media guys, AROUND me, i said we
feel like it's gonna, happen here and, you know, to
me it felt like a fifty to fifty shot at.
That point it, was like, ALL right i don't know
what's going. To happen but a few of the people
(02:07:56):
around me kind, of, said man it Feels like florida's
really got the momentum here and absolute crushing just at.
That ending i've watched it thirty forty, times already, And guys.
I'm Convinced emmanuel sharp when he gets to, his spot
he's running from underneath the rim to his spot where,
he knows, you know he could shoot a Three From
(02:08:17):
Walter clayton junior is guarding him and he's slow. To react,
he sees, OH god i can't let him shoot the
three he's running, at him leaps in the air and
that's What Causes emmanuel sharp to do the PUMP fake
i Think if sharp continues through with, HIS delivery I
Think walter clayton files. It there, You know i've had
(02:08:38):
a few, people, SAYING no I think clayton blocks. The
shot but if you Look, at clayton he is in
mid air And as sharp pump fakes he, You know
clayton pulls his. ARM back i Think if sharp goes
through with, THAT shot I Think walter clayton. FILES him
I think sharp's shooting three free throws and what we're
under five seconds at, that point with a chance either
tied with two free throws to take a lead. With
(02:08:59):
three but, it's, Unfortunate man it's it's. Gonna be it's
Gonna haunt coop fans for years.
Speaker 1 (02:09:05):
To come the shot that, Never, was yeah and two
of them the possession before to dribble into. Triple coverage
that was a you know when you triple team down
on the on the right side of, The, Lane gordy
i'm trying to figure out and watching It and i'm,
moulded over and it was trying to figure out, you
know when as You and dan just talked about trying
to what was the. Turning point but it wasn't. Just
(02:09:26):
one it was steady and it was, slow death but,
you know they had to be prepared For what florida
is all about in the, second Half and florida got
him at their own game with was that energy and
defending and contesting shots in the. Second half was there
an energy difference that was palpable on the court?
Speaker 5 (02:09:44):
For, you.
Speaker 14 (02:09:46):
Yeah it kind of felt. THAT way, i mean it
definitely Felt like florida came out the more energized team
in the, second half and it just it Felt like houston.
Got tired, you know it felt like a lot of
shots were clanging off the front him and god how
many floaters and, you know just just, you know little
(02:10:06):
bunnies at the rim just bounced off. The rim, you
know it's just like it's not like every time they,
need hey they, need it they need a, bucket here
and it was just like it. Never came and, YOU
know I think i was looking at the. BOX score
i think both teams didn't make a shot in the
final two twenty eight of. THE game i mean that,
tells you, you know it was free free throws from there.
Speaker 16 (02:10:25):
On out that that.
Speaker 14 (02:10:25):
Was, it, yeah man it's. It's frustrating it's gonna haunt,
You know kook fans for years. To Come and i'll, tell, you,
guys this being in that locker room. That was that
was the saddest postgame LOCKER room I think i've ever.
Been in i've been in locker Rooms for texans. Playoff
losses i've been in locker Rooms For Astros world, series
losses SHOOT, the lsu, you know Twenty Eleven national. Championship
(02:10:50):
loss that was the saddest Locker room i've ever been in.
LAST time, i mean those were, absolutely heartbroken every one,
of them, just crying even the trainers sitting in sitting in,
cuppy holes just in the. FETAL position i mean that that.
Hurts man that was that was devastating to see.
Speaker 6 (02:11:07):
Last, night Yeah And chris gordy joins us every single
week Here On The Sean Saucebury show TUESDAY'S nine am
Courtesy Of, Carbach brewing and, you know just to kind
of go off what you're just talking, About, THERE gordy,
i mean, you know it's one of those it's in,
the moment nobody wants to talk about. The FUTURE but,
i mean for the guys that were, COMING back, i
mean was any of that mentioned about trying to put
this behind us and be able to try to make
(02:11:29):
another run at this. Next year or was it all in.
Speaker 14 (02:11:31):
The, moment yeah a few of the, YOUNGER guys, I
Mean joseph tugler kind of, you know all But said
i'm coming Back and i'm going to be a leader
on this team. Next year, you know it's some of
the younger guys who didn't play much. This year we're
talking about. Next year but you could see even they.
Were crying they, Were saying i'm hurt for, these Guys
for sharp And jaywald roberts AND. L j crier and
(02:11:52):
these guys who gave it. Their all, And dude i'm,
telling you like early in the, second half it felt
like what? Was it when they got it to ten,
or twelve it, was like this is really. Gonna happen
you makes is really gonna win a. National championship and
again for that game to play out the way it
did in the, final minutes it just it's heart breaking and.
It sucks there were So many cougar fans we were
(02:12:15):
at the team hotel. Per, game uh they weren't even
they stop letting people into. The hotel there was over
a thousand people in the hotel lobby to send the, team,
off uh, you know to to the buses and. ALL that,
i mean it was Just If clyde, Drexler's There jim nantz,
IS there, i mean every every big wig you could ever,
think Of, Former Coups michael bourne, was there so many different,
(02:12:36):
you know dignitaries and big, game people and it. Just
sucks it really sucks because, you know even before, The
game cougar fans were all over the river walk everywhere,
you WENT and i had somebody even say it is
All of, houston here like it felt like the entire
City of houston Took Over. San antonio, AND again i,
don't know, you, Know Look kelvin sampson is the hell of.
(02:12:56):
A coach you hate, TO say i don't know if
they'll be, back here because they very well. Could be
he's that good of. A coach, but man it just
feels like a real lost opportunity.
Speaker 1 (02:13:06):
LAST, night yea not, one possession but maybe uh for
a three minute stint or two minutes stip or stint
or grouping is is there if they drew it back
up and had one regret that they could grab back
and not a play but, you know maybe it's a
combination three trips or that three minutes in certain part
of the second half or. First half is there an
(02:13:27):
area or time that they'll look back and say that
the self. Inflicted problems if we could, change that the
result would have.
Speaker 5 (02:13:34):
Been.
Speaker 14 (02:13:34):
DIFFERENT yeah, I mean i thought they did a hell
of a jobtion on all night.
Speaker 1 (02:13:39):
To factively completely. AGREE completely I mean i even.
Speaker 14 (02:13:44):
Tweeted out the first half it was. A Masterclass walter
clayton was so out of.
Speaker 7 (02:13:49):
His groove that's.
Speaker 14 (02:13:50):
The best that was the best player on. THE court,
i mean, ask anybody, you know they would have said
the best player on either team coming to that game
last Night Was walter, clayton junior and he was over
you'd have, a point, you know going into the second
half and those last couple of minutes he kind of got.
His groove he had a big three when uh, You
know vance was, up three he hits so huge three to.
(02:14:12):
Tie it he had another scenario where he hit a
bucket and GOT an a. AND one i, would have,
you know, you know hide sight's always, twenty TWENTY but.
I don't i wouldn't have, double TEAM but i would
have given him a little bit more extra attention because
this is what this. Guy's done and there come back
When against yukon and they're come back When Against texas
tech all, year long no matter what kind of game he.
(02:14:34):
Was having now most of the time he was having
great games and, came up came out back to back
thirty point Performances in italy date in the. Final FOUR
but i would have given him a little extra attention
in those last couple of minutes of a. Close, game uh,
you know get an extra, hand up do something to
uh to, defend him because that that kid is special
and you know he hit some big shots when they needed.
Speaker 1 (02:14:54):
It most he. Sure DID but i could tell you
if we talked before the game and we are sitting
around having a BEER and, i said this is how
it's going to play Out, for clayton you Have said
cougar's win because they. WERE masterful, i mean he did
what a great player. DOES that i love players that
really are non. EXISTING it i don't want them to be,
(02:15:15):
non existent but, the go, you know twenty five thirty
thirty five minutes and don't do much but still find
a way to make a difference when, it matters and
that's what great, players do and he's been a great
closer and he closed it. Out again but there's no
WAY had i given you his numbers and the way it.
Turned Out if i'd have told you, those pregames gord you'd,
have said probably double digits or a ten. Point win,
(02:15:36):
you KNOW ten vt is, double digits a ten point
winner more By.
Speaker 15 (02:15:38):
The.
Speaker 14 (02:15:39):
Cougars Yeah Then kelvin simpson said as much after. The game,
he said you look at the, Box score, he goes
if you were showing me these stats and, THESE numbers
i would have taken this. ALL day i. MEAN it
i even said. IT too i, was like if you've
it's gonna win, this game it's got, to be, you
know a lower, scoring game not a game in. The
eighties and that's what. They got they got a lower.
(02:15:59):
Scoring game, it's, just man so many of, those shots
in particular the first half that rim. Was, UNFORGIVING yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:16:07):
I agree and it was like that on the final
Four on, Saturday. Too gordy it was like that early
where it was like here it FELT like i said
This to Dan, ON monday, i said it felt like
you know when you go to the fair and the
ball's bigger than. The rim that's what it felt like.
It did and it carried Over. On monday those, big,
arenas man it seems to happen all.
Speaker 14 (02:16:26):
The, Time YEAH and i mean two of fourteen from
THREE and, i get, you know, AT halftime i get
teams come out tight and it's a national championship game and,
all THAT but, i thought, you you it's got some,
good looks like they had some open looks and some
bunnies at the rim that just would. Not fall and
it was, just, frustrating man because it's like we, know
basketball we watched it, All tournament like those are good
(02:16:50):
looks and the ball just wouldn't. Go in and, SO
yeah i, don't know MAYBE the ncaa needs to look
at that and what what happens there with, the rims
because it just feels like this happens so much in these.
Big ARENAS and i know they it plays differently, THE perspective,
i mean being there, seeing, IT guys i don't know
how those guys block out all this the cavernous space behind.
Speaker 7 (02:17:09):
The rims when you're.
Speaker 14 (02:17:11):
Trying to take, a shot your depth perception gets so.
Thrown off BUT like, I said, I thought i thought
you've had some good took some good shots that just
did not. Go down, and man it's JUST like, I
said i feel for. Those guys but, a postgame, you
know they said it was About fifty, you're right have
to wait about fifteen minutes in the locker room. To open, we,
waited guys we waited about forty. FIVE minutes, I Mean
(02:17:32):
kelvin sampson whatever he said to the team that we
waited forever for them to open that. Locker room and
even when they, opened it it, looked like, you know
just a war zone of just guys, in tears, you.
Know devastated so again it's. Gonna sing it's gonna sing all.
Year long, but again you're look At What kelvin sampson
has done here just the past. FIVE years, i mean
(02:17:53):
you can't help but be grateful for the run that
this guy. Has had but, they're. Close man that the
hope is that you get some of these guys back
and you make another run right back here.
Speaker 6 (02:18:02):
Next, Year, WELL gordy, i mean we've got a lot
of frowns around here. Right now but thanks to our
Friends At, CARBOCK brewing i think you know of some
ways to be able to turn those frowns, upside down.
Speaker 1 (02:18:11):
Don't.
Speaker 14 (02:18:12):
You yeah one of the one of the downsides to
being At. The alamo there was no proffer. Bocket there
they need to they need to figure. That, out maybe,
you know maybe the fan experience would have a little
been a little bit better With the crawford Box and.
Carbock browing, but yeah headed Back to houston with a
pretty sad CARAVAN of U of h fans making our
way back to H. To houston the good thing about
being Back at houston will be able to Get that
(02:18:32):
crawford Back From. Carbock brewing you, know it you, love
it enjoined all, season long Throughout the, astro season, and
yeah it'll be nice to get get a High school
crawford BOCK when i get, back home no doubt.
Speaker 1 (02:18:43):
About it be safe heading, back here and we'll talk
to you later on.
Speaker 14 (02:18:46):
THE Week i i'll see it, all.
Speaker 6 (02:18:49):
Right, see, You Buddy chris gordy again last night in
the building over there At The. Alamo Dome The trust
tree is, still here the nest it's. Still open and
if you are riddled, with, sadness anger whatever it, might
be we're here for you here On The Sean, Salisbury
Shows sports talk at seven ninety seven one three two
one two five seven ninety against seven one three two
(02:19:10):
one two five. Seven ninety we'll continue with.
Speaker 1 (02:19:12):
That next, hey guys sort of pro painters sort of
with the sea certapro dot com for your. Free estimate
each and every sort of pro business is individually owned.

came in, they're local. They're timely they help you pick
the paint out that pops and looks good with. Your
furniture the simple things that maybe we overcome and the
quality of. The paint which one do? You want how
(02:19:34):
do we? Do it whether it's, interior xterior business. Or
home you want to stay in it because you're living.
In it you want it to be optically correct for
you great and make it feel comfortable, spring colors or
if you were moving and, YOU say i gotta make this,
presentation awesome you want Curt Of pro painters to be
a part. Of it they're the official painting partner Of The.
Houston astros they're going to do. It right it's expensive don,
a home it's s expensive don, a business so protect
(02:19:54):
it with the quality Painting Of curta. Pro painters it's
sort of with. The sea you know who. They are
you do and they're gonna do a, phenomenal job and
they'll come back get it done right if. It's Not
but i've had them come to my home plenty of
Times and i've never had to worry about it being.
Done right it's sort of, pro painters sort of with,
to see sort of. Pro painters. That's painting Happy.
Speaker 2 (02:20:16):
War sean Salisbury On sports talk seven Ninety where Astros
and rockets Play And real.
Speaker 1 (02:20:23):
Texans talk, GOOD, morning jb what's, Up hey Shawn?
Speaker 7 (02:20:28):
And?
Speaker 15 (02:20:28):
Dan dan you MIGHT remember I called. SUNDAY night i
was Driving. From phoenix oh, That's Right. San, antonio yeah that's.
All right, and yeah so when you guys invited the
press people to, CALL today i FELT like i had
to do THAT because i drove. Fifteen hours, You know
i've Been a houston sports follower and was born and
(02:20:52):
raised there close to, fifty years and, YOU know i
was not expecting. Last night and So what i've done,
since then here's here's been. MY day i walked Around
downtown santoni for about, an hour just trying to decompress from,
it all maybe talk TO some u of h fans
(02:21:14):
see how they were dealing, with IT because i, came
ALONE so i didn't really have anyone else to talk
to you about. The depression and then, after that came
back to, my hotel texting with Friends in arizona. About
it went to bed about, five am woke up about.
EIGHT am, I said i can't get back on, the
ROAD so i booked another. Day here i'm just gonna
(02:21:38):
decompressed Listen to sports seven ninety the rest of. The
day and, YOU know i would say that this was
the WORST loss i Think because i've been, following them,
You Know houston sports for. SO long i think this
is Worse Than houston buffalo in ninety one when we
were up thirty five to three, at halftime because this
was a. Championship game, you know we're now zero for
(02:22:00):
three in the. FINAL four i think this is also
worse than losing To the Nationals in game seven when
we were up because at least for, THAT game i
left before the third out and didn't have to see
the other team celebrating on. The floor with, THIS one i.
(02:22:20):
HAD to i had to wait till, last second so it.
Was tough, So yeah i'm just gonna be hold up
in my hotel room here for, another day just licking
my wounds and listen to, you guys and thanks.
Speaker 2 (02:22:33):
For being a.
Speaker 15 (02:22:33):
Sounding board and one one LAST thing i Saw That jim.
NANT said i guess it was before. The game he
said that we're going to look back on this Weekend
In san antonio and we're going, to say Remember The Alaba,
doome alamodome and how prophetic, that IS because i think
that could be our, rallying cry, you know for the,
(02:22:54):
next season is Remember the alamodome as these guys try
to pull together and try to try to get back
there again. NEXT year i Guess in indy there.
Speaker 1 (02:23:05):
You go appreciate.
Speaker 7 (02:23:06):
THE.
Speaker 1 (02:23:06):
Call.
Speaker 6 (02:23:06):
JB now, i, mean look you know we're no, excuse
me we're no stranger to heartbreak in.
Speaker 1 (02:23:13):
THIS city i mean he.
Speaker 6 (02:23:14):
Mentioned It, the Oilers, the bills the Twenty Nineteen, world Series,
the rangers you have a chance to beat them in
one of two games and you can't close it out,
at home, you Know The Western, conference finals missing all
those threes Against. THE warriors, i mean the list is on.
And On, BUT sean i mean maybe it's prisoner of the.
Moment STUFF and i try to rail against, doing that
(02:23:36):
but this one seems like it hurts even worse with
the stakes that were on.
Speaker 1 (02:23:40):
The line, oh, yeah well it's a. Championship game they're
hard to. Get here we've, seen it and. It's TOUGH
when i mentioned Earlier When geno arielma doesn't get, you
know it's been ten eleven years since his team's, been
back and we all sudden, just, think oh he's there.
Every year it's hard even. For him and he's a
mount rushmore coaches a male. Or female so it's hard
and so. Getting here and You heard, gordy mention, you
(02:24:02):
know get guys and get, them back and they got to,
you know they'll have good class coming in And they'll
i'm sure get some portal love. As well but even
then it's hard to. Come back it's it's hard to
do this. Every year it. Just is but and when
you have, that chance because that the thought starts to
kick in of mortality and immortality as a player and you,
(02:24:23):
you Basically and i'm, not saying, you know immortal in
the way, of life but, in sports when you win,
a championship you you im mortalize. That team it's forever
and then when it when it ends like, it did
not only does your mortality rear its head, in sports
but it also he realized how how fickle, it is
(02:24:43):
But also i'm fleeting, it is but that also stays.
There forever and this team was built.
Speaker 5 (02:24:50):
FOR this.
Speaker 1 (02:24:52):
I rarely see them where the moments. TOO big i
don't think the moment was, too Big but florida did
a good job of making it feel like that at
times The second but the crazy thing about it is slowing.
It down but that's not Their mo the mo of
the Of The houston cougars is to play half court
basketball and and and slog through it and get it
done and run when they. Have to, you know one
(02:25:14):
wants up tempo and the one wants a. Half court
but they did a good job defending in a, half Court.
Did florida and in the second half it would have
been easy, to say, Oh man. I'm surprised we talk
about exhaustion from having, to go, you know extra time
and push it so hard in the. Second half both
were obviously well, conditioned teams and they just sometimes you
(02:25:36):
take the l because if somebody just, executed better, you
know and. They did they, executed better and it's going
to be heightened because it was in the second half
of the. Championship game of course. It hurts of course
you had opportunities and the fact that they extended that
lead in the first half and into the, second half,
you're like with, this defense there's no way they're going
to get enough good looks to make enough shots to win.
(02:25:59):
This game you started looking at the, clock, saying, no
okay they get it, to six they'll respond and it's
just going to. Hang around and this is a this
is a five or six point game in, the end
because well they got that And then florida it just
played Right into florida lived in. That, Comfort man they
lived in the comfort of playing from behind is okay,
for us and a lot of. Teams can't, they did
(02:26:21):
so we're going to take something away from It, From
houston but the truth of the Matter, is Florida like
Houston did Duke, On saturday florida snatched this. As well you.
HAVE to, i mean just think of the little things
they do to make Sure that sharp didn't get a
run to the basket when the, triple team when when
he lost the ball on the. Possession before just Think,
of oh you're late to get, to him but you
(02:26:42):
being late actually forced him to drop the ball down
and would have been a double dribble the ball off.
A knee, i mean it, was continuous and so the
compartmentalized possessions of what cost him wasn't. One guy it's
Not just sharpe's not the reason they the only reason they.
Lost us that's he's going to look to some. And
somebody but. He, sucks no he doesn't played good and
(02:27:03):
defended well. As well he's a more spot. Up guy
put the ball on. The deck that's not, his strength
and it. Cost him and unfortunately they didn't get the
look they wanted for whatever reason on the, final possession
and they had time to. Do it it was and
a lot of that was Forced. By florida florida has
been as good as anybody the last month and, A
half so no. Argument there they got beat by a
(02:27:24):
good team they played nine times out. Of ten with
The way houston started and played in the, first half.
They'll win they just ran into somebody who played basketball
like they did last night and it worked in their.
Favor too something you just mentioned.
Speaker 6 (02:27:36):
RIGHT there i do want to carry over to the,
Other Side John, drew brandon see, you guys we'll get
y'all in here on, the CONVERSATION because, i mean it
was a, missed opportunity and sometimes those are the ones
that you look back at with. Such bitterness we'll talk
about that all Right Here Sean, Salisbury Show sports talk
seven ninety and There.
Speaker 2 (02:27:56):
The Sewn salisbury. Show, continued.
Speaker 6 (02:28:00):
Man you gotta take advantage of, those opportunities because championships,
are fleeting you just don't. Get them but it's something
ELSE that i Think With kelvin sampson that we've kind
of come to take for, granted, is oh you'll be
at least back in the, sweet sixteen you'll be In the,
elite eight you'll be even further. Than that, which now
twice during his eleven years here they've been To the
final four and once in his tenure been all the
way to the. Championship game but we've seen it so.
(02:28:22):
Many times eventually the credit card bill, comes due like
eventually you take a step back as. A program you're
not able to get the same return that you get
from all of. Your teams that that's something that we've
kind of taken. For GRANTED and i, mean it's, you
know one of those things that you hope you, don't
see but IT'S also, i mean As a coop fan,
this morning you, Gotta, wonder hey how many more chances
(02:28:44):
of this we're going?
Speaker 1 (02:28:45):
To get there's. No doubt but what happens now is
it's even different than it was five ten years ago
because the best recruiters no longer get the. Best players
so if he has the energy in the nil to,
do it you can do it longer if, you want
if you can deal with what these with seventeen year olds,
(02:29:05):
Telling you i'm not coming to your school unless you.
Pay me but, oh oh if you can.
Speaker 6 (02:29:07):
Deal, with that and, He can oh well sometimes now
even we're not even talking visit unless.
Speaker 1 (02:29:13):
There's, money yeah well they're paying you to take, a
Visit so i'll come visit if you'll. Pay me so
they're getting paid to go visit. The university so it's changed.
A game hence why Guys like sabing. Are out where
his advantage was he knew had to recruit better than
anybody in, the world and now the great equalizer is
if you've got, more money you're recruiting. Doesn't matter and
(02:29:33):
so With coach sampson could be a, great recruiter buy
in and, all that and, so yes it's hard to. Get,
back No the sweet sixteen is. Not enough they've changed the.
Standard here you're just another team that lost in the.
Sweet sixteen now it's always an honor to. Keep playing
but lead eight it's. Not enough how long he'd want
to do it if his energy's up and. Doing it but,
(02:29:54):
the window, you say starts, to close but it. Closes shortly,
you know we've seen it in Transition In. North carolina
we've seen a Little bit kansas out of, down here
even though they're in the tournament. Blue bloods, it'll close
but normally they're able to pick it back up and
get those, Guys right Kentucky's and louis will get the players.
You want but the. Game's changed the game has changed
(02:30:16):
to the point where recruiting is how much money do?
You got not can you come in into my living
room and sell me my parents and me ON why
i come to. Your school now for some it may
it may still, hold true but so that takes out.
Of it so the, truth, is well the window may
close as long as you're paying and you've got somebody
and the culture's. Still there like With, coach sampson as
long AS the nil is, ramped up the window can
(02:30:38):
stay open as long as you want. It to the
window is not closing in football for Any the University.
Of texas as long as they're well coached and they're willing,
to pay they're going to be in the hunt every every.
Single year teams that you don't hear about now will
start to be in the hunt, if like Let's use
i've used it Example when brian was on THE show
(02:31:00):
smu football teams, Getting better calipari Going, To arkansas, Walton
money tyson. Foods money John cala parti is not there
because He, Thought arkansas oh you, KNOW What i, arkansas
football but we got good. Basketball Program, nolan richardson there's some,
history here do you do don't you think that in
the next two or three years that there's A chance
(02:31:21):
arkansas is one of THE top nil teams basketball teams
in the, Country, Easily okay and that's part of the
reason why he. Is there so that went to Hear
say arkansas every year and if they can keep, doing
it it'll become a. Destination spot not because it's, a
legacy Not because calipari can recruit even though we Can
the trump card. Great recruiter but? What, else, oh well
do you know We Got tyson foods In, The, walmart
(02:31:42):
Fanily the, walton family and we're right here in a.
Great area come, on, Here okay so he'll be able
to go into the portaland get Guys that arkansas would
have never got basketball wise, good players but. You WOULD
when i think of the top ten recruiting, Basketball classes
arkansas doesn't come, to mind but they may start. To
now so, point Is With, calvin sampson the door may.
(02:32:02):
Be open it's still obviously. It is, but yeah the
decade of, you, say okay when's the, Downtime, COMING well i. Don't,
know hell as long as you're entered into the nil
part of it meaning bought in and, buy in and
the coach still, has energy which he does people who
want to play, for him that window. Won't close you'll.
Get opportunities but, even then, EVEN then, I mean yukon
(02:32:25):
women are in the in the playoff. EVERY year I still,
I say i marvel. At it since, twenty sixteen that's
a that's nine years and we just. Ascend there and
every it's hard, to win and that, team's dominated it's hard.
To win and while we say we had times take it,
for granted there is far from Any guarant it's an
(02:32:46):
ang you're an ankle turn away from not getting To the.
Sweet sixteen. So Happen and i'm just, telling, you man
if people think from our, vantaged point it always, seems,
he's oh, of course we Had coach sampson and are
gonna get good players in the rest. Of it but
even with most Of these power four schools And the
big ten And the big twelve AND the sec now got,
good players and some of them, got, players, SAY damn
(02:33:08):
i didn't think he'd. Go there well you, Know, why
okay you Don't Think chris bar's going to recruit his
ass off now with. Nil money it don't miss because
of what, he did the impact. It's coming so the
window can. Stay open but even with the window open
and you keep getting, good players, you, think well at,
the odds tell me at some point we got to
we're gonna win. A championship how many have? They won
(02:33:29):
and they've been close and So And coach samson'll tell you.
It's hard and so when the moment, presents itself you
really only got. Two choices you're going to take take
care of your business and win it or. Somebody else's,
and unfortunately for whatever reason and whatever reason or reasons
you want to put the finger, on it the blame,
on it or find whatever the pulse of the reason
(02:33:50):
why last night there was more Than one florida handled
the end of the game Better than, houston DID and
i would have bet my life that it would. Have
happened maybe not, My life i'm not, that DUMB but
i would have put a lot of money on. The
fact if you'd have told me how the game was gonna,
work out how we saw it going the, first half
and what they did to to to Shut, DOWN clayton i.
(02:34:14):
WOULD have i. WOULD have i would have added an
in game live bet to add to say there's no
way they're winning with with the numbers in the way
you pointed it out, to me even with their lack
of three, point shooting Meaning THAT cougar's.
Speaker 6 (02:34:27):
I know you're a, risky dude but still want you
to be part of, this show still consider you, a
FRIEND so i will stop you from betting.
Speaker 1 (02:34:33):
Your life if, that's, Okay well i'm not going anywhere on.
This Show and i'm not going to bet, my LIFE
but i would have considered it considering how MUCH trust
i had And the cougars to win last night After
what and if you'd have, told ME like, i said
do it ten times and Say here's clayton's numbers in
the night and here's what they're going, TO do i
would have said that. You can't you can't wish for
(02:34:55):
anything more Than that. Cougar's win and. They didn't, but
possessions and it comes down to a handful. Of them
and it came down to about six trips up the floor,
last night, not one, not three, not five or six
possessions on. Both sides, one finished. One didn't and unfortunately
the picture you're gonna paint for yourself is the last.
(02:35:15):
Two possessions what.
Speaker 6 (02:35:17):
An endorphin bousso would have been, this morning no doubt.
About it let's head out To Need, Phill john, Good,
morning john.
Speaker 11 (02:35:23):
What's?
Speaker 21 (02:35:23):
Up look i've been listening all morning. About this we've
heard everybody crying about. The officials for, every right you
live by, the three you die out a.
Speaker 11 (02:35:36):
Three period you live by the, long ball you die
by a. Long ball bonning is.
Speaker 7 (02:35:43):
An art.
Speaker 11 (02:35:45):
You think, about it it's a. Lost. Art okay going
back to baseball and.
Speaker 21 (02:35:51):
The bunning and the home wrongs and everybody wants to,
see man we want To see.
Speaker 2 (02:35:56):
Ron score move the.
Speaker 11 (02:35:58):
Base runners you. Will win, and okay back to this.
BASKETBALL game i don't Think and i'm not gonna quote
nobody so THAT way i don't get called. An IDIOT.
Speaker 21 (02:36:12):
But i don't think i've heard one person say anything about. The,
Bench well age's bench disappeared in the. Second half well.
Speaker 1 (02:36:24):
We did we said that you take the. Starters away
the other guys were the reason. Last night the other
guys meaning coming off the bench and then the other
three than the. Non stars the bench was there in the.
Speaker 21 (02:36:37):
First half that's what gave them the Lead in Florida.
Against florida you look, At it florida had.
Speaker 11 (02:36:41):
Zero points and don't, quote me BECAUSE again i don't
want to call them, an.
Speaker 15 (02:36:45):
IDIOT but.
Speaker 21 (02:36:50):
I think houston had six or eight points at the
half off, The bench florida. Had zero that was your
lead somewhere in their, Ball PARKISH so, i mean and
people blaming the officials and, all, That, man, look, yeah
okay but everybody when their team loses they the first
person they're gonna blame as, an official whether, it's, baseball, Basketball,
(02:37:13):
football okay.
Speaker 11 (02:37:17):
But for the guy that, the day all that stayed
in the Day in. Santoni, again yeah this this is
with this than nothing compared To The North carolina state.
Speaker 21 (02:37:29):
Loss of five slam And jam you can go back to, them, strows,
oilers whatever but.
Speaker 11 (02:37:37):
Where it came FROM the U.
Speaker 21 (02:37:38):
Of, H Yeah North carolina state was much worse than
this because that team was that was a dominant team
through THE N C Double. A steve they were supposed
they were used to wasn't supposed to win this game.
Last night used wasn't supposed to. Be there they they
were supposed to lose to do they made, it THERE
great u of a spile slam and jammer back in
(02:38:01):
the eighties part they.
Speaker 11 (02:38:03):
Were about that was more of a. Crushing loss and for.
Speaker 21 (02:38:07):
Them to get back there, next year there ain't no
Guarantee like sean's, everybody now we'll, be back we'll. Be
back you don't know that you will be back next
year in the. Final four you may not even make
it out. Of regionals so don't count your chickens before.
Speaker 6 (02:38:19):
They, make that, All right john appreciate. THE call i
mean everything you know that. HE said i mean it's
kind of in line with what we've been. Talking ABOUT
but i mean it's just the moral of the story
is this was a team that did the little. Things
right they were, able to, you know cheat those angles
and get those advantages in games, against opponents and that's
(02:38:40):
why you had the belief they could come through and.
Do it but the, PROBLEM is, I, mean sean to,
your point four straight Games. For florida they did It,
to yukon they did It To. Texas, tech uh they
did It, to auburn and then you just did it.
Last night so four out of the five uh. In there,
BUT still, i mean this was a team that they
got in. That situation you of age, probably, thinking hey,
(02:39:01):
close games we've. Got this florida basically looked at them, and,
said yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:39:04):
Nice try it's and it's the little things of the
execution of the fundamentals of and the mechanics of operate
and an, Inbounds play look. What costs duke couldn't get
it inbounds and then the one time they i mean
they got it in a, second time but the first
it gets picked and cleaned and was a big reason
(02:39:25):
Why the cougars were able to continue on just the
little things and an inbound passed where you can get
the look with six seconds. To go how many times
is sharp going to dribble it off and try to
dribble between three guys and drible it off and lose
a possession? That late they would have normally. Said it
sometimes pressure of a game gets you to see things
(02:39:46):
maybe a. Little different i'm not saying, it choked but
the pressure does bring a. Different viewpoint it. Just does
some of it's skewed and some of. It's foggy and
this team was not in over. Its head they were,
not overwhelmed but Neither was florida and they they just
they kept the lead close enough to get into their,
(02:40:08):
comfort zone, which is you give me a ten point twelve,
Point deficit i'm. Catching you even though the year the
university heason end, like always you can still play. Great
defense the Problem is houston's offense went awry with possessions
and Shots and florida's didn't down. The stretch and the
(02:40:28):
best closer he's been as good as closer as a
has been in college basketball, This Year clayton junior made
sure when he wasn't playing his best game that he
didn't pout at. The end it would have been easy
for a star to ego it up And say i'm
not playing my best this sucks and instead of doing what,
he did HOW am i going to find a way
(02:40:49):
to impact this when these dudes are shutting my ass
down and choking?
Speaker 11 (02:40:53):
Me out and.
Speaker 1 (02:40:54):
He DID but i still would have bet you anything
that if those numbers that you showed me that this
is why it was going to work Out that florida
loses by double it's a ten point loss if if
that's the way the. Game goes and unfortunately, for them
a great player found a way to get something done
when it wasn't his, best night And the cougar's offense
(02:41:16):
just couldn't do. That late they just didn't pull, it
off no doubt.
Speaker 6 (02:41:19):
About It, brandon drews see you guys. Right there we'll
get you all in before we hand it over To
The Matt. Thomas show but, you know just a fleeting
moment That the kugs were just not able to catch
up with. Last night, it's unfortunate to. Say Least It's Sean,
Salisbury Show sports talk. Seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (02:41:37):
We want, To Win sean salisbury continues on. Seven, ninety
oh there's.
Speaker 1 (02:41:42):
No doubt i've already started thinking about that and back To,
the astros so no need to let it. Faster long
the players will take that, with them but you got
to move on. From it. It's life what are you?
Gonna do But that's today's not the day to tell
them that it's. Gonna suck And, for alum. It's. Tough man,
it's hard especially when and you never know when you're,
going back even though you think. You will i've lived
(02:42:04):
it and, it sucks but you. Got it let. Me
finish but the ability to the hardest part hangovers and
winning a championship because you're going to banquets and getting
telling everybody how good you. Are hard that's why it's
tough to go back. To back but it's just, as
hard if, not harder to lose the way they did
(02:42:25):
when you had it dead to rights and then have
to go in the. Off season let. It faster It
should it should, bother you but it's hard to. Get
over and no matter what, anybody says you can sit.
At home we can all sit at home and do
it from our. Living rooms it is hard to get
over as a PLAYER because i don't care how self
esteem filled, you are it's still it still is going
(02:42:47):
to it sits in there for a long time until
you get. It out and, even then what's the one
thing athletes and coaches will always tell you over the
course of, their career and they in, Their, career hey
what do you regret? The MOST that i didn't enjoy the?
Victories enough so even in WINNING and i Think coach
samson who, SAID listen i want, to enjoy they'll want to.
(02:43:07):
Enjoy it make sure you stop, to enjoy smell the
roses as they but stop to. Enjoy it it's usually the.
Biggest regret and a lot, of people people on their
deathbed and people and their sports death, Were, like okay
my career is about to. Be, over hey what was
your Biggest REGRET that i didn't enjoy the? Wins more
because the losses and the mistakes are always the ones to.
Stick out if they, win it go win it next
(02:43:28):
year twenty years. From now what do you think they'll
mention more? Next, Year oh i'm talking about. The player
if it, WAS me i know. Far more the interceptions
AND mistakes i MADE than i even think about THE championship.
I want when we won A, GREAT cup i think
about THE mistakes i made that would have made that
(02:43:48):
game a lot less close or a, bigger DISTANCE had
i made a throw here and missed the. THROW there
i think about those mistakes MORE than i do the championship,
we WANT and i got the ring to, prove it
so they'll think. About it it's always your first, you're
excited but when you're, sitting around you'll, like, say yeah,
but man we should have won two in. A row
(02:44:10):
that's how, you think at least the. Champion's doing that's How,
Coach sampson, i'll think no matter what, happens losses you
hurt more from the losses than.
Speaker 6 (02:44:18):
You do is celebrate, the wins at least in, my
life and no doubt. About it and you got to
think about it this, Way, Too, sean well was The
last final four that you have ah? Played in it's been, a,
minute yeah four, years ago twenty, Twenty one so you
don't take it, for granted no doubt, about it, All
right so we got it behind us. Tomorrow morning we're
on the optimistic path. After This, Brandon, DREW sorry i
