I'm a back to the Sean SalisburyShow. All right, Sean, what
are you hearing out there now?The Salisbury's takeouts. Salsbury's takeout on the
Sean Salisbury Show could sell you onhere The Sean Salisbury Show Sports Talks seven

(00:26):
ninety Chris Gordian for Brian Lima Todayand Sean kind of wanted to pivot the
Salisbury Steakout today into the Astros andpotential trade candidates. See who you think
of some of these names rumored tobe out there the Astros could add as

(00:49):
MLB dot Com has put up thirteentop trade candidates and their potential fits.
Some interesting names being thrown around here, and first one we'll start with is
a left handed pitcher by the nameof Tyler Anderson of the Los Angeles Angels.
He's rebounded from a down year withthe Angels last year. Has a
two forty eight ERA in his firstfifteen starts of this season. Signed for

(01:12):
thirteen million dollars this season the next, but given the need for rotation help
around the league, the Angels figuredout suitors. He's been excellent as of
late, pitching a two point zeroERA in forty five innings. Over his
past seven starts, and those threeteams of potential fits Sean red Sox,
Cardinals, Astros. All three haveplayoff aspirations. Would the would the Would

(01:34):
the Angels be willing to trade inthe division? All right? Listen,
the Angels haven't been the smartest decisionmaking baseball team over in the last handful
of year, so I believe theywould if they got the right price for
it or the right prospect for it. Left hander add another left handed starter
wouldn't be a bad thing here rightto go with Fromber wouldn't be a bad
thing with the injuries. And Ifor one, Gordy, And maybe I'm

(01:57):
wrong about this, Maybe I lookat it and I don't know how you
feel and what you and Stan havetalked about regularly on this Excuse me is
I'm not counting anything. Garcia andmccullors give me is bonus. I'm not
counting on it, but I'm hopingfor it. Does that make sense?
So if you can go get aguy that isn't overly expensive and not have

(02:19):
to mortgage a which you don't havea lot of prospects, or if you
wanted to throw one of your dayevery day players in to go get him.
I don't have a problem with it. I think it's something you have
to consider. I don't think there'sany way in hell, whether they're within
four and a half games or threeand a half games of the Mariners,
that the trade deadline or not.I don't think you can go the rest
of the season because again, somebody'sgoing to miss a start or two like

(02:42):
Verlander has here going down the stretch. They just are you need seven eight
starters these days. I don't thinkthere's any way in hell you come out
of this All Star break slash tradedeadline just after it without getting a pitcher,
and the money seems right, andthe fact that you'd have another year
on the on the you're not rentinghim, And yet do I think the
Angels would be crazy enough to doYeah? Because the Angels are no threat

(03:05):
in the division right now, Soyeah, I do yeah. And they
need to be thinking, no doubt, selling everything, no question. Very
interesting. That's a good name.We saw him a couple of weeks ago.
Another name on this list, butthey do not list the Astros as
a as a candidate. Garrett Crochetof the White Sox. I think the
reality is with him. He's oneof the best in baseball. It's going

(03:27):
to take a large haul, andI just don't think the Astros have the
arsenal to go get a guy likethat. Yeah, and that arsenal would
be prospects and probably an everyday starter, and I don't think that you want
to do that. I do thinkthat the White Sox can hold some teams
high. And the longer you wait, as you know, Gordy, if
this kid, if this continues tohappen, and teams there's so many teams
hovering around a chance to still makeyou know, we got a lot of

(03:49):
teams in baseball that are in positionto make the playoffs at this stage of
the game, a lot of themthat are still they aren't twenty five games
out. So I think he's goingto be one of the prizes if you
want to call at that at thetrade deadline, So you would have to,
and you'll find a desperate team that'sgonna have to give more. I
don't think the Astros are gonna gointo a desperate I think they need to
get a pitcher, but I don'tthink you need to show desperation, and

(04:11):
desperation means you give up too muchfor him. But I don't think he'll
remain a White Sox when the tradedeadlines passed. I think he'll be somewhere
else. And he's twenty five,he's got two more years of arbitration eligible
years. So that's a guy thatthey're going to get a haul for.
Another guy from the White Sox.And this guy they did put the Astros
in on is Eric Fetti, andhere's what they say. His return to

(04:32):
the majors has been solid as aright hander, has a five to one
record of three zero nine ERA overeighty seven or third innings in his first
fifteen starts. He did sign atwo year, fifteen million dollar deal,
so an acquiring club would be takingon the remainder seven and a half million
next year. Very reasonable price fora reliable starter. It would put the

(04:55):
astros a thing, you know, over that tax threshold depending on you know,
what's gonna happen with Verlander and allthat. But this is a guy
that could be added to your rotationthis year and next year, which you
gotta be thinking about because they knowHowveer and Rkidi are coming back to the
least middle of next season. Ifthey're lucky. That's if they're lucky,
Gordy, that's nowadays twelve months. That'd be like remember when Adrian Peterson came

(05:17):
back, like seven and a halfmonths. Yeah, exactly. We're almost
to the point where it's like you'reasking maybe a little too much. I've
always said, when you feel likeyou're ready to take another month. I
used to say that about knees becauseI've been through two of them. We
always want to rush back and sometimesyou're not ready. But with that,
now, see, Gordy, maybeyou can help me. I know who
he is, I haven't seen enoughof him to know do you trust him

(05:41):
to be an everyday workhorse? Iknow his record says it. I don't
know enough about him. The priceis right, and I've watched him pitch
a little, but I don't knowenough about his grind. Because innings are
going to start to take their tollon Arraghetty, on Renel Blanco, on
Hunter Brown, you would think, what kind of bulldog is he? Do
you know enough about him? Iknow a little about him, not a
lot. Six seasons with the Nationals. That's where I know him the best,

(06:04):
and he really only became a fulltime starter in twenty one and twenty
two, made twenty seven starts ineach of those seasons and now, which
is pretty good. Nowadays, itshows that he has durability. Yeah,
then sixteen starts so far this yearin Chicago. Again, not a name
it's gonna blow you away, butdefinitely a name that's duable. Log and
innings, right and log and start, which is a good thing, which

(06:25):
they need because Steve Sparks is constantlyset on here. One of his concerns
is the taxing of the bullpen. If you're not getting you know, when
Blanco's getting you six or seven inningsand Farmers getting you a complete game one
start and then seven innings two startslater. Those are the type of starts
you need. So maybe he's oneof those guys. Because I even asked
Dana Brown. I don't know ifyou heard this part of it, Gordy.

(06:46):
I asked him about it was eitherlast week or the week before about
a front line starter. He goes, well, I don't know if there's
going to be many frontline starters availableright, and getting back to Crochet,
that may be the top front linestarter, but it isn't going to be
like the Verlin or that Max Scherzeror Jacob de Grammer available right like like
we've seen certain guys or cease. You know, when the last year when

(07:08):
the White Sox were talking, Dylanseas available, Dylan seas available. I
don't think that guy's going to beout there. So what do you consider
is the third starter going to beconsidered a frontline guy that you're going to
get. I don't think it's goingto be an oh my gosh trade deadline
for pitchers. So maybe a sevenand a half million dollar pitcher who logs
innings and starts is the type ofguy you want. Here's another guy.

(07:28):
This is at MLB dot com. They're a top trade candidates at teams with
potential fits. Another name that heputs the Astros his potential fit. Left
hander from the Angels, Matt mooreMore signed a one year, nine million
dollar deal on January twenty seventh. He's thirty five years old. Struggled during
the first month and a half ofthe season, but he's allowed just two
earned runs over his past eleven innings. He's still effective against lefties, lefties

(07:53):
abouting just one ninety one against him. They say could also you know,
just be a good bullpen depth piecefor a team. Former you know,
big time starter in Tampa Bay manyyears ago, but it has been relegated
to kind of a multi inning bullpenguy, but could be a piece.
Maybe they think, if we're notgoing to add a rotation piece, maybe
Matt Moore could be. Well thoseguys just pitch those multiple innings out the

(08:15):
pat or a guy like we've seenin the past from Hunter Brown or a
JP France who can give you both. Right, Yeah, if you go
with a you say, well,we've got to go six. We need
a six starter because well, we'replaying a lot of baseball and we don't
want to tax Verlander when he comesback. Maybe he's that guy who gives
you some long relief in the middleand also can spot start for you.
And I know this obviously with yousaid the last eleven innings he's given up

(08:37):
two eur in runs. Is they'regoing to score more for him here than
they do in Anaheim, so he'llhave run support. So maybe that's the
type of guy you go get thatyou say, Okay, he can log
innings for us from the bullpen, but also can come in there and give
us some quality starts without having tobe a guy who's in a five guy
rotation. Part guy, but thatmay be very will be the versatility type

(09:01):
of guy that they do need. The last name on this list, and
this is the one that's most intriguingto me day list Andrew Vaughn, first
baseman for the Chicago White Sox.And you notice how everybody on the White
Sox is avaz. Yeah, Imean it's I think they had cal Quadrille
from the from the Rockies. It'sa lot of Rockies Angels and White Stocks
all this work. Yeah, buthere's what they say about Andrew Vaughan.

(09:24):
He's not headed for free agency thisoffseason, so the White Sox might not
be inclined to deal with twenty sixyear old, but the first baseman could
be one of Chicago's most intriguing tradechips because he's earning three point twenty five
million this season, will be arbitrationeligible for two more years after this year,
and he bounced back from a slowstart batting slashing two eighty nine with
nine home runs at twenty seven ribbiesin his last thirty six games since May

(09:48):
eighth, After posting a four toseventy one ops with no homers in his
first thirty four contests. The seasonnumbers, he's batting two thirty six,
So it's you've seen that movie herethis year, right, Yeah, I
mean it's least a it's not superhigher than John Singleton's two twenty two batting
average. But what I like aboutthis guy, Sean is he's twenty six
team control for the next couple ofyears, and he's got some pop in

(10:11):
the bat. He had twenty onehomers last year seventeen the year before.
Strikeout numbers are a little high,But this could be a guy you acquire
and you just plug him and he'syour first basement for the next couple of
years, and stick him in theseven hole and let's see where he and
with a chance to drive and runsat the back end of the lineup,
so you're not power heavy at thetop, which is nice to have,
but you don't want to be justpower heavy at the top. And then

(10:33):
with the control, And doesn't thissound like an ASTROS guy. Gordy not
expensive, got control. He's stillyoung, like you said, what twenty
six years old, twenty five, twenty six years old, and you're not
going to be in a hurry tohave to go out and empty the bucket
for of Vlad Guerrero. You don'thave to go rent Paul Goldschmid, who's
also Goldschmid's productions down. So youget a guy who and also the pressure

(10:56):
of him not having to come inand hit twenty five home runs for him
at least this year. And putit this way, you're not gonna be
going south with production with Vaught.I think it's an intriguing one as well.
And the control is a big partof what the astrolls want to do.
I can see that, and Iunderstand why you're intrigued with it.
I'm just I'm looking to see wherehe beats a lot of times they got
him batt in two hole for theWhite Sox. There're in some games you

(11:18):
spat at five hole, so heain't seeing the first five in this line.
Yeah, exactly, So that wouldbe intriguing. I'd be interested to
talk with the with the Chicago WhiteSox. What would it take to get
and Andrew Vaughn. That's one thatwould intrigue me. And again, not
one that's not gonna grab all theheadlines, is not gonna lead Sports Center
Yes, it be sexy pick, but it can be a helpful one.
Yeah, And honestly, it's betterthan John Singleton. And that's the reality

(11:39):
of where we are now with thatfirst base spot. All right, act,
we'll return here to the Sean SalisburyShow. Got plenty more we got
to get into. We do havean NBA draft happening tomorrow night, and
you're Houston Rockets picking third. Notthe sexiest draft of all, but who
are some of the names being thrownout there? We'll talk about that next
