Speaker 1 (00:04):
Okay, let's do this.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Sewn Salisbury, USC Troupes, longtime friend Shawn Salisbury, Dan Matthews.

Speaker 3 (00:17):
This is the Sewan Salisbury Show.

Speaker 4 (00:23):
More playoff baseball yesterday sans Astros, Texans back on the
practice field. They're getting ready for Lamar, is what they
said yesterday. So whether or he not, he's gonna be
out there, Miko Ryans and the Cruz say, bet your ass,
we're gonna prepare ourselves if that guy's out there.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
Well, don't don't use up too much time on your
practice field for him or what he doesn't show up,
You forgot to cover somebody else exactly. I mean prepare
for him should be easy to prepare. I mean he's not.
It's the toughest guy in the league, he and Josh
Allen because of their legs and arm. But it's a
tough to prepare for because of all that bandwidth. But
you get so caught up into it and so tied

(01:03):
into it. I've seen it with the guy We did
have Barry Sanders all the time. Dude, we'd put remember
Paul Palmer from Alabama. Maybe I mean a little before
your time, but you know who he is a great
We put our fastest guy, take a wide receiver and
he would run scout team running back that week. And
that guy was a guy, and we would get in
a huddle and you tell him, if you run a
scout team, to just run around for about two you know,

(01:27):
run around, start one way, go the other way, come
back the other way, come back the other way, and
wear the defense out and then you know, go get
a two yard game or go do it. And we
do it all week long, and you spend so much
time on Varius Anders you forgot well, Herman Moore was
pretty good, Brett Perriman, there were some pretty good players, right,
and they and we had a great defense. But you

(01:48):
were so hyper sensitive to Barry Sanders that his impact
was felt even when he didn't have a great game.
And him not having a great game, he could rush
for forty yards and you felt like you chased him
all frigging day, right, and you watch him play in
the game and you sit back there and just marvel
at it. But even then you could not simulate it.
You just can't. You can't simulate on your practice field

(02:13):
unless you've got that guy. Unless we borrowed Barry for
the week, say could run our scout teams, so we
can defend you the next week you just can't. And
we had our most, our smallest, you know, jitterbug scat
back guy who ran four four doing it. And then
you get in there and you say, well there's one
from all problem. You still got to tackle twenty with
Lamar now with the hamstring different, but you do have

(02:35):
to prepare for him, especially if it's like doubtful or
questionable but not fully out right. You prepare, but you
can I've seen it, dude. You get so caught up
in him that the ball goes to him, or if
you play action, you go right to it and a
guy who's running a post over the top and it
becomes too easy because you're so you know, it's almost
like you grab hands and you put a circle around him,

(02:58):
you know what I'm saying, and say, try to get
out of this. It's like it's a passive aggressive approach.
And when you hope that you can get him, but
he makes you work so hard just in the open
field to tackle him. You kind of forget that there's
ten other players and it's easy to do. And so
Lamar now very different, but you can no matter what

(03:19):
they do on the practice field, my man, no matter
what they do, if you were getting one hundred percent
Lamar Jackson, you cannot you cannot prepare for him. You
just can't. Now, you can prepare for the scheme. But
getting to who's gonna run him this week? Who's there?
I don't know who's their third quarterback here? Third quarterback
is Graham Mertz, Okay Mertz. Graham Mertz is probably more

(03:43):
Cooper Ross. What you're going to do is probably take
a receiver or one of those maybe one of the
rookies from Iowa State that goes you know that you
can it's on your but you can put him at
slot this fast, somebody on your roster or I don't care,
defensive back that's played offense before something, and you're going
to try and say, okay, let's do this. Put them
around and do what I did with Lamar rpo and

(04:05):
you keep it this time, pull it and run. Or
you know every team has a receiver who can actually
throw the photo over. Oh yeah, they all do. A
matter of fact, a lot of times the receiver dB
could throw it farther than the quarterbacks can't. So that,
but you still can't. Now the injured. Lamar kind of
settles things down a little bit because you may not
be But then they pull the Oki Doko and you
say he's injured, and he goes out and rushes for

(04:26):
a buck ten and throws for three to twenty and
Baltimore's desperate. So if it's close, you're going to play him.
In my mind, because I can't remember the last time
a one in three team went into Baltimore as the
favorite at Baltimore. We've talked I I'm not talking about
the fourgn oh team. I'm talking about a one and
three team is the favorite on the road at Baltimore,

(04:46):
and that team's one and three coming to see you,
and you're the dog at home.

Speaker 4 (04:51):
So it maybe even teams just in general being favored
in Baltimore, right, let alone one in three.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
Right so and a team that struggled mightily offensively this
year except for about a quarter and a half. Right,
So it's it's gonna be interesting. But yeah, you prepare
for that, Dan, You have to, if there's any doubt
you're gonna go in, because the worst part would be
if you prepared for Cooper Rush and he's a pocket guy,
move a little bit and you get in there and say,
uh yeah, are we ready to defend this guy when

(05:20):
he pulls it and takes into the edge. Yeah, why
is Lamar Jackson running out here and warm up? Well,
they told us he was out. But so there is
that fine line somewhere in the middle where you don't
do it to the point where you get so caught
up in Lamar that you forget that this team, that
that number, uh that guy behind was he wearing twenty two?
Big fella? Oh yeah, yeah, make sure you tackle him.

(05:41):
I was going to say.

Speaker 4 (05:42):
I was like, wait a minute, is there a quarterback
in the league that Doug Flute still at Boston College
on twenty Bernie Kozar, Right, So that part of it,
it's going to have to start there, because in truth, Baltimore,
Lamar or not should ride that big fellow till the
cows come home right now, especially if Lamar is hurt,

(06:04):
you know what I'm saying, and still playing absolutely And
I mean, and that's something that you know, we talked
about yesterday of what you prepare for is I mean,
I almost expect this is going to be vraabl Era
Tennessee Titans with forty carries. Yeah, like where it's it's hey,
guess what I mean. It's not like we don't trust
Mark Andrews or anybody else around here, but we definitely
trust that.

Speaker 1 (06:23):
And you know he's gonna run angry and with a
purpose and intentional the You're gonna know real quick in
that game, lamar or not. If if Derek Henry has
like nine carries in the first eight minutes of the game,
or on the first possession he's carried at eighty percent time,
guess what you better do, brother, Sit on down, look

(06:44):
for a shorter game, and prepare that if this is
gonna be one of those days where it's bow your
neck and realize when the game's over, everybody needs a
plunge pool because it's going to be that guy will
punish you. So I'm actius to see how this goes.
And you know how I feel about the Oakland A's
and teams like that that are out of something at
one and three for a team that was supposed to

(07:05):
be in the Super Bowl or at least be one
of those teams. Right, Hell, I had him winning the division.
I think you did too, Dan, right, the Ravens, Oh yeah, well,
both these teams we had win in the division, and
both have really started off sloppy on offense, especially in
well the Ravens on both sides of the ball, in
particular on defense because of their injuries, but they have
not showed any sign of physicality just yet. So they're

(07:29):
going to play desperate because if the Pittsburgh Steelers win
and you lose, they're four in one year, one and four,
you are, You're in a major chase mode all your
long matter of fact, to the point of where statistics
will tell you metrics over the years not happening the
same thing here especially too. I mean, the Steelers are
an era team that just doesn't give away chance. They

(07:51):
don't they usually, And they got the best quarterback they've
had since Roethlisberger, and he looks more like Aaron Rodgers, right.
And their defense, which has been struggling against the run
near the bottom of the league, starting to look like
they're ramping it up a little bit and looking more
like Mike Tomlins Pittsburgh Steelers teams. But I mean, and
you think about this, how fortunate the uh, how fortunate

(08:13):
the what you call it the Texans are and that
the Baltimore I mean, the Indianapolis Colts. I still want
to call them Baltimore Colts, Indian Apols cults. They had
at the Rams last week dead to riots, dude. I mean,
they had a chance to put it away and they didn't.
And the Rams did what the Rams do most of
the time, right they And so when you get that opportunity,

(08:36):
they could be simply pretty easily four and oh and
that's against a couple of good teams they beat, so
didn't pull that off. But that's you don't want to
be in that kind of chase mode. And so this
is it for put it this way, there's more intriguing
And regardless you live here or not, rarely would you
see two one and three teams where you and I'd
be even giving them three minutes of thought at this

(08:57):
you'd say one and three and playing like they're playing shot.
But the interesting thing is those two teams are at
the top and now they're at the bottom of their division.
You're looking around saying, I mean they're tied with Cleveland.
Cleveland won a game, right, so you're looking around and
here it's like what and Jacksonville's playing better even with
the cheesy head coach and the rest of it. So

(09:17):
This is about as important a one and three game
that you're going to see, especially five weeks into a season,
well five weeks into a season. And also, I mean
just the schedule.

Speaker 4 (09:29):
You still have a head, You've still got the Bills,
You've still got to go to Seattle next week, which
is not an easy place to play. I mean, you
lose this one and you're one and four, then having
to go there, then you get the bye week, and
then I mean a San Francisco team that's been banged.

Speaker 1 (09:42):
Up yet to get really capable. Of course they are,
so you're talking one to seven possibly.

Speaker 4 (09:47):
And then later on the season, I mean you've still
got Buffalo, You've still got Kansas City, You've still got
to go to LA and take on the Chargers, and.

Speaker 1 (09:55):
You still got the Colts twice, and the Jacksonville Jabuars
once Bingo. So really the only give it feels like
I'm talking about in the division, it's like, oh, we'll
get Tennessee there, we'll beat them, saying yeah, that's exactly right.
So this is a dare I say monumental game for
a one to three team five weeks into the season.

(10:16):
And when people say, I'll say again and I'll constantly
remind people. You tell me, honestly, do you think that
the Astros would have wished along the way? Did they
beat a team in June, just one time in a
series or late in the season that they stole one
from Detroit or took one from don't get swept by

(10:37):
the A's right, think about that, or hell swept by
Seattle at the end of the sea. Just win one,
just went one. And they were sitting here talking the
lead all three hours of this four hour show. We're
getting ready for a two o'clock game today in Cleveland
the way it does and saying that series tied one one,
who's gonna win this? That's exactly right. So you're and

(11:01):
they will look back on this year, both of the
You know these teams, if they don't make it, you
know what they're gonna say, horrible start, horrible start, which
gave us way too much to have to deal with,
especially when you're Buffalo. I'm telling you what, don't blink
in Seattle now the way Darnold's do. Not that team
that I'm just telling you. In that defense, you're damn right,

(11:23):
and he's got them, he's coaching them up on defense.
I wouldn't. You don't blink on those teams, man, So
you better get him while the getting's good, and you'll
never have a better opportunity while Lamar Jackson's playing quarterback
in Baltimore. In your life I'm talking about is the Texans.
As long as Lamar is in this league and that
physic and that organizations together, there's no better time in

(11:44):
your life to get them, because a month from now,
I assure you they are gonna be better, and you
don't want to part of them. Most people, most teams
are not gonna want to part them if they get
healthy and he's ready to go and hardball starts laying
down the gauntlet, be careful. So this is the time
you can get him. And I don't care looking back
at the end of the seed and people say, yeah,
but you beat Baltimore and so what that's their problem,

(12:05):
that's not mine. You think teams are looking back to
beat the Ashland saying, yeah, you got into the playoffs.
But man, Jeremy Paaney was heard, they're playing that Zach
short guy. Nobody in their city's mentioned that at all,
neither will national media. They're saying they beat them, took
care of their business, so nobody cares about that, and
quite frankly, needed is anybody in the locker room as
a player. You never said, yeah, but if we'd had

(12:26):
our running back, we had to beat you. No, you're
saying the backup running back has to play like the
starter and I got to play better. Isn't JV football right?
That's exactly right. So this is all the way around
doing it a one and four start, I can safely
say and almost feel even though it's this division still
and I'm still not real secure about who's great. I
think the Colts are good Danie Jones playing good football,

(12:47):
and they're they're pretty physical, but I safe to say
I don't. I don't think there's a chance in hell
they can win the division with this schedule if they're
won and four, And I honestly I told I'm gonna
tell you if they miss it this show, I'm taking
a future's bet I'm gonna go find it, and I'm
gonna bet they're not making the playoffs.

Speaker 4 (13:05):
Well, I mean, you might be part of somebody or
somebodies that agree with you on that, and I'll explain
that right here as we're just getting going Thursday, edition
Sean Salisbury's show Sports Talk seven to ninety.

Speaker 1 (13:18):
Now, DNM leasing just delivered a truck to a customer
who had listened to D and M for more than
twenty five years. Think about that, and he'd been hearing
these commercials forever, right for decades, he believed leasing was
just renting a car. I put in air quotes, something
you only did if you couldn't afford to buy. And
who hasn't been there, right, guys. But DNM Leasing's here
to change that. That changed when the dealership offered him

(13:39):
an eighty four month loan. He knew he'd trade the
truck in in a few years, and he knew he'd
end up well upside down again, owing more than it
was worth. Well, that's when he remembered the DNM commercials.
Ever seen a Texas title? And when you trade in
a long finance contract, the only thing you own is
negative equity. Those quotes so called DNM leasing showed him

(14:01):
is that leasing isn't about what you can afford. It's
simply the smarter way most people pay for their vehicles. Smarter.
See what smarter does for you? And DNM leasing is smart.
Leasing isn't renting let me say it again, Leasing isn't renting,
it's smarter. Who doesn't want smarter? Harder doesn't always work.
Smarter does, and especially when it puts money in your

(14:22):
pocket and makes it easier for you at the beginning,
the middle, and the end. Dial seven one three two
nine zero one thousand, seven one three two nine zero
one thousand, or visit us at dn M. It's DNM leasing,
dmauto leasing dot com, dmauto leasing dot com. They continue
to win awards and there's a reason why dn M

(14:43):
it's dmauto leasing dot com.

Speaker 5 (14:48):
Let's go.

Speaker 3 (14:49):
This is the Sean Salisbury Show.

Speaker 1 (14:52):
And that's either on the parrot or somebody. It's cool
to say. Okay, don't put it on us. You got
to message. If you gotta have a conversation, you gotta
have a conversation. I just one thing about that phrase.
They got to eat too. Okay, that's all I do.
What tools do that too? That's exactly right. So there
you go, man, you got it, little Hall and oats. Okay, Yeah,
there we go.

Speaker 4 (15:12):
It's a good one. It's a good one. It's just
that that that right there is like quintessential eighties. Just
that that sound.

Speaker 1 (15:17):
Little Hall's got the Is it Holler Oats that's got
the fro, the curl? You know that? I think it
was Hall sporting wave and that Halls probably probably, Yeah,
that's what I'm saying. And and and Oates is the
he's the blonde, long hair like at one point, I'm

(15:37):
sure part of down the middle he was probably he
was probably the looks but Hall he played hockey when
he was young. Probably, yeah, he looks. It looks like that. Okay,
got you you know that's it.

Speaker 4 (15:45):
Don't you remember like the old school hockey photos of
you know, before the game where one of those guys
that had the wavy, you know, hair would be intentionally
without the helmets, skating around all the ice.

Speaker 1 (15:56):
Yeah, Derek Sanderson was one rest his soul Rond Gay.

Speaker 4 (16:02):
Yeah, well nobody nobody is speaking of like you know,
Darryl Hall. Nobody had hair like yarm here, Oh dude.
And and could pull.

Speaker 1 (16:10):
Now those could pull hockey players me, you dude, they'll
go out, they'll go out and score a goal, get
the fight, lose two teeth, pull the hottest girl in
the bar, and have the greatest, the greatest mullet in
the history of man.

Speaker 4 (16:23):
I would say that probably of the hierarchy of athletes
that that get the most women. Hockey players get slept on, man, dude,
hockey players.

Speaker 1 (16:32):
They're like Nascar, Yeah, I mean and country singers. Do
you know what I think it is? It's the danger
Oh yeah, the thriller, the the it's the thrill seeking
party it is and dude with Now remember Ron was
it do Gay or Greshner? Both rangers at one point
that dated and married to Carol Alt the super model.

(16:53):
I mean, you want to talk about like the woman
of the nineties, and yeah, and wasn't talked about as much,
but was like class She was right up there with
like Locklear, she was Frinkley and all of them, right
and l McPherson right that group, but Carol Awde was
Ron Greschner or do Gee And then you're looking at
how did you divorce? Ay idiot? But you never know
what happened. So but one of those guys, Yeah, they'd

(17:15):
skate around in the flowing locks with bird Bobby Clark
filled it with the broad Street believes he would do
the same thing long flowing locks. They'd be skating around.
But a lot of those guys at that point in
time didn't wear helmets. They didn't have to. Well, then
what was it? Candace Cameron? She married a hockey player?
She married Candace Cameron, the mark, But she married pave
Ol Burry. Yes, okay, yeah, because I know her last

(17:37):
name is Burrey, so I didn't know if it was.

Speaker 4 (17:39):
He has a brother too, But that's the one. And
then a woe was it? Alicia Cuthbert was? I mean,
she man, she had a time and she still does.
What's it from right over here? Memorial Hillary Duff.

Speaker 1 (17:53):
Who she married? Oh, she is married to a hockey player.
Was Carrie Underwood? And that's that was the last one,
Kerry Underwood. Yeah, they but you're exactly right. There's this
there's this tough guy. Pull your teeth out and they
still love you. You know, Well, how'd you keep it?

Speaker 6 (18:08):
Well?

Speaker 1 (18:08):
I got knocked out in a fight. You should see
the other guy. I tell you what.

Speaker 4 (18:11):
One of the best, you know we've been talking about,
like the Astros medical staff, I'll tell you the the
most lucrative medical staff to be a part of.

Speaker 1 (18:20):
Be a team dentist in the NHL. Oh, dude, you can't.
You'll never go bro. You're seeing you're seeing somebody every day.
But there's also those guys that'll be like, oh, I
got a forty inch gash in my leg from you know,
getting slashed. Yeah, do me a favor, grab one of
those uh one of those staple guns. Staple that up.
I got a second period to go play in and

(18:40):
I'll see you afterwards. That dude, I grew up in
medicine hats. My dad was an oil man. Dude, I
went out of Harley Elway, had his Harley Ride for safety, right,
realmet safety. So flying to Denver and we're driving through
Wyoming to go to uh Edmonton, Alberta. And Mick you
remember Mick Vakota played with the uh Olgoon and Twister

(19:03):
Tony Twist. But what great names, Oh Vokota right now?
And so I pull up that they get there and
we were meeting like this bar restaurant, but behind where
everybody had their trucks and brought their bikes. And you
know when when you hauled them in, right, if he
drove in, if not, they had bikes for you. If
you said rent a bike and they, you know, get
one for you whatever you're driving. And I pull in

(19:25):
and I see Vokota I'm a hockey fan, and he's
long and sinewy. But you know fighter. Was he on
the Miracle on Ice team. No, Vokoda didn't make that team.
He was he was. He played for the Rangers or
the Islanders are both. Yeah, Vokota was one, but one
of those guys, little journeyman. But you knew, you knew
you were going to get you know, one hundred minutes
a year and five pedalies or more. Right, So I
pull up and there's this dude who's about six three

(19:51):
six four in blue jeans and boots on, working on
his bike, you know, to it like all listen, nothing
can be. It's like a great golfer. They're tinkering, but
there's nothing wrong with your swing. They're just kind of
looking at their bike and cleaning things up. Sure, so
I pull up and I look, right, jeans on, belt, boots,
no shirt, the other way around. Look good, feel Goodah,

(20:11):
go ahead, jeans on, no shirt, looking like well, that
guy plays outside linebacker. I'm talking about dude, about four
percent body that in jacked, right, And I'm in my
career something I see those guys every day. Drigging to say,
but this is hockey and I'm thinking they can't be
twisting his backsturned. I get out and he yells over

(20:32):
at me. Go walking down there. Now he's just to
think about this. For anybody that rides hardies don't know
what I'm talking about. He's got eight hangers ah with
a suicide clutch and his girls riding with him. So
for those who know what I'm talking about, to go
from me hangers to a down a suicide clutch is
well suicide. That's very much a chop, there's no question.
But I get out of there and I go up
and I'm thinking, Okay, there's no safer place to be

(20:55):
on this trip than when we go so well on
the way and you pull into a bar grab some
So we're at the first, like the second stop, and
so Twister and irons standing and he's one of the
great fighters and respected guys in the league, and on
skates they fight better than most people do on flat ground.
So I walk into a bar and I said, Twister,
a fight broke out of here. How are we gonna do?

Speaker 6 (21:13):
Man?

Speaker 1 (21:14):
And I'm six five, two thirty and Merrill Hodge was
with it. It was a group that elwa with it.
We're gonna be fine. You guys can handle be okay, right,
But then I say, well, we're great, We're good. But
didn't Wocoda and.

Speaker 4 (21:23):
Twister there in the western part of the country throws
a punch of John Elway, What the hell's your problem?

Speaker 1 (21:28):
Right? And you think, well, even if it got heated
and they will wear outnumbered, Vocoda can handle a couple
of them because he he doesn't caroll lose another tooth
and knock somebody out. And Twister can handle eight of them, right,
So I said, looked at him. Finally, I'm a little
taller and cracked a beer bottle over and said, and
he didn't even move. We're that guy and I and
I'm feeling pretty good. So you know, I took boxing
lessons in the off season. Look at Twister and I said,
what happens if you and I get into one? That's

(21:51):
about what he did. He goes, Yeah, probably wouldn't end
very well for you, I said. I said, so he
goes because he's a he trained as a boxer. But
but and on skates, and I said, you know what
you're probably I said, well, we're in a pretty safe place.
You got me, I got you. He goes, Yeah, he goes,
I probably got you more, you got me. Yeah, But dude,
and you get a great but the nicest guys in

(22:12):
the world. But if all hell breaks loose, all do
you ever? Because they they are they will destroy Bom boom,
bom boom. You're done. But the other side of it,
they can take like five people, mention them in the face,
in the head and deal with it because they get paid. Well,
think about the code and Twister, they got paid to fight. Yeah,
you go to work every day, You're coming after you. You

(22:34):
think I'm worried about you? Yeah, you get paid every day. Hey,
what are you doing for work today? I'm gonna go fight,
you know. And that's every day and like a boxws
every four months or three months or it just and
so I gave I'm like, you know what, and the
rest of the time said, Twister, you sure every time?
You sure you can get me? He goes, you would
like to test it out? I said, I'm good, I'm good.
So that's it. Only a sparring session here. I don't

(22:56):
I don't need to give it a test. Runde, Remind
me if I ever, if I ever tell you a story,
if I if I share it on air about a story.
One of my goon hockey buddies told me he's Saint
Louis Blue and the rest of it well respected. Told
me a story where they all live and they play
golf and a guy that's in another pro sport. They

(23:20):
got into a little disagreement. The one guy's laughter that
he not he's one of his best friends, and he
knocked his ass out. And if I shared the story,
and he said, this is between you and Eishaan, so
I can't. But when he when somebody else does, I'll say,
now call him and say I can let this one rip,
right dude, he told me, I said what he said?
Oh yeah, I see, I said. What happened after he goes, Oh,
we drank beer and laughed and just like hockey players do,

(23:42):
this guy went in to a hockey player. And when
I if I ever gave you the name, you'd say,
why would he mess with him? But Booze is a
can be a very You get big personality when you
mess with that stuff. But yeah, know your place when
you're with those with those guys because there he don't
lose many of them, and the only time they lose
is when it's a guy that's the same sport as them.

Speaker 4 (24:02):
They tell you when you're under the influence that you
know sometimes you're writing checks that your body can't cash.

Speaker 1 (24:07):
Oh yeah, those guys can cash them both ways. Oh
they sure can, the top and bottom. And if they
don't cash it one day they will find you, hunt
you down on the ice and they will get theirs again.
See see what's my guy all time? Great Bob Probert,
go go go see him after Uh he got beat

(24:29):
in the fight once and what's my guy's name? His
sons and playing professional hockey now too. But it'll come
to me. But when he scored the ice like I
got the championship belt. Later in the season they played
again and because he be he got he got Probert
ty Domy. Go look at the Domie the two fights
DOMEI got him once and walked off the ice like

(24:50):
Aaron Rodgers did with I got the championship belt belt
and Bob Probert stored it away. God rest his soul.
And later in the season they met again and Domi said,
there ain't gonna be no remats. Yeah, bad idea. By
the second time around, Probert, who did you ain't gonna
beat him twice. You may get him once, but he's
gonna get you. And he looked him up and got
him again. So it's like when you go back and

(25:10):
look some of those vicious hockey fights. Dude. Yeah, we
look at Grimson. There was a rookie on the ice.
Crimson gave me neill come get and the guy walked
into it was a one punch fair and then Grimson
through his arms. Look like, man, you wanted to help
him up. Like, dude, young fella, you know better than that.
What am I gonna do? So they'll knock you out
and buy your beer after some of the best guys
in the world.

Speaker 2 (25:29):
You know.

Speaker 4 (25:29):
Welcome to the NFL, Welcome to the Ajor League Baseball,
Welcome to the NHL. And you think you can fight
these guys, Okay not.

Speaker 1 (25:36):
They put it this so you can stand flat footed
on on on hard ground and they can put skates
on and they're going to get you. Yeah. Always, well,
I don't think I'm gonna be trying out. Yeah, I
would say probably say away from the guys who grew
up playing hockey in Saskatchewan, the group of them, Yeah,
because they some of those down fields here damn right,
you run into them. Yeah, you don't want to do that,

(25:57):
you know, Hey, hey, yeah, don't don't mess with temp.
You know he's one of us, and yeah, yeah he's
a nice guy. Just just just let him be all right, Ye,
all right?

Speaker 4 (26:06):
As I mentioned, you know some doubts about the Texans, Well,
somebody else and maybe putting their money on it will
discuss it. Is the Sean Salisbury Show here on a Thursday,
Sports Talk seven ninety with.

Speaker 3 (26:20):
The Seawan Salisbury Show continued.

Speaker 1 (26:24):
Texans right now. Maybe we can get in a little
bit of shows later.

Speaker 4 (26:27):
But the Vegas win totals now, our good buddy Chris
Gordy sharing this with us yesterday. The win total before
the season started was nine and a half for the Texans,
and I am almost guessing that in a weird way,
the bored in Vegas is telling you, yeah, that one
and a half for the Texans this week.

Speaker 1 (26:48):
Don't feel good about it. You're on the road.

Speaker 4 (26:51):
I mean, was that the home team gets three points,
you know, kind of baked in already normally, So you
almost wonder if they're telling you don't fall for the
she there take.

Speaker 1 (27:01):
Easy to fall for it. With all the talk about Baltimore, right,
the Ravens take the Ravens. So what do they have?
The win totals now at three less six and a
half this season, which I'm still hammering the over. Rich
Read the schedule again for me if you have in
front of.

Speaker 4 (27:15):
You schedule again, at least for now, let's see, no,
just yeah the rest of the year.

Speaker 1 (27:21):
Yeah, yeah, So they're one win four games in, they
got thirteen to go, all right.

Speaker 4 (27:26):
So you get Baltimore on the road this week, you
get Seattle next week on the road, you get the
off week, and then you come back home for three
straight home games against San Francisco, Denver, and Jacksonville.

Speaker 1 (27:38):
Then you go on the road for Tennessee.

Speaker 4 (27:40):
Buffalo at home, Colts in Chiefs both on the road,
two straight at home against the Cardinals and Raiders, and
then the final two on the season going to be
one on the road against the Chargers in LA and
then at home for the Colts.

Speaker 1 (27:58):
You see an eight wins in the dirt road. I
have a hard time betting the over right now what
I've seen. I'm just talking about what i've seen. Going
you need a six more wins? Well, okay, go ahead
and find him for me, all right. Split with the Colts. Yeah,
Split with jackson you go to you got three in
the San Francisco, Denver and in Jacksonville, because I do

(28:21):
think they get I would disagree. I would do may
get Jacksonville two out of three against who'd you say? Denver?
That defense? San Francisco, they're gonna be out. They'll be underdogs. Yeah,
don't be shocked if somebody like Trey Hendrickson. I if
Lynch goes in and tries to say, Cincinnati ready to
cut bait, We'll take him. Remember when they did that
with McCaffrey, when the Carolina jumped in and got him

(28:43):
with a difference. I'm just talking about with the way
they played, right. You know, normally I had them win
in the Division Dan by two games when the seasons
before we started the season. But they've underachieved, specially off
and now defensively they'll be in every game. But what
tells you offensively that this team with some of those
games got eight wins in them.

Speaker 4 (29:06):
That's just that schedule now. And that's a valid point too.
I mean just because last week, when you start to
commit to the run game a little bit more and
obviously it worked out well.

Speaker 1 (29:17):
Now is against the Tennessee Titans.

Speaker 4 (29:18):
I mean, I don't see, even what the injuries, you're
gonna be able to do that against Baltimore. I definitely
don't think you're gonna be able to do that against Seattle.
Forty nine Ers regardless, are a good team. They're playoff
people think they're players.

Speaker 1 (29:31):
Coaching advantage. I think be in Arizona, beat Tennessee again,
that's give you three wins. You split. Let's say say
you split in the division. Okay, I'm gonna give you that.
That's five wins. Now you've got to find a way
to carve out Buffalo, San Francisco Chargers, Ravens Raiders forty

(29:51):
nine Ers Raiders. Now that's a toss up right now
because we don't know who the Raiders are going to
be later in the season. Right now. If it was
at Hall, I'd take the home team right now. If
they were playing each other this week, whoever was at home,
I'd say, give me that team this week. So put
it this way. You know why they said it at
six and a half, because it's going to be hovering

(30:11):
when you look at the schedule. Now, you go out
of body experience and give us what we thought we
were going to get offensively and different story. I'm just
going by what we have seen. Dude. That schedule is
friggin nasty.

Speaker 4 (30:24):
Well, I mean we knew that even before the season too.
It's just we just thought that this was going to
be a better team. We thought that it was going
to be a better offense, that the penalty issues we're
going to be cleared up. The offensive line you hoped
would be better because we didn't know. We just hoped.

Speaker 1 (30:39):
Honestly, I'm trying to look at it as a guy
who where we're not living here and it's our you know,
the Texans and you bet them beforehand taking nine wins.
I'm trying to look at it fairly, and I know
you are too, but I'm trying. It's not all they
suck or oh they're great. I'm just trying to look
at it honestly as a game I want to make
or lose money.

Speaker 4 (30:59):
I would think that you probably have enough casual observers
out there. I mean again, like you said, somebody who's
not here watching the team on a daily basis would still.

Speaker 1 (31:08):
Say C J.

Speaker 4 (31:09):
Stroud been a playoff team. Yeah, I'll take the over.
Like I I think that it is a good number
to have now seven and a half. Maybe a little
bit of caution, but I do think this team can
win se Carey, and I think that they can get
somebody too that you on paper right now would say, yeah,
no shot in that game.

Speaker 1 (31:27):
Okay, A Kansas City, a Buffalo is somebody like that. Yeah,
well that's gonna be tough because Kansas City's gonna get better.
They're getting healthy, they already are exactly so it looked
like Kansas City last week. Right, Yeah, you'll get but
they'll also if we do that, then there's also that well,
they could lose to Tennessee at Tennessee. You know what
I'm saying. You're like, you're like, hey, where's that? Just
as quickly as you can beat a good team that

(31:48):
because you've had one each year in the first two
years under Demiko. Let's be honest, right, So I understand
the plight and why people why you'd go either way. Okay,
they lose this week. Now, what are you saying, I'm
feeling less confident? Okay, put it this way, you wouldn't
be confident right now betting a grand on the over,

(32:09):
would you No, Okay, so we're both sitting, but if
you did well, if you're really confident, he'd bet the
grand without. It's like Lee Trevino said, you want to
pressure us when you bet somebody when you're growing up
and bet somebody and you ain't got the money to
pay them, so you better go win. And by the way, again,
always bet guys that have iron covers on their cloths.
Bet that guy so you'll win that. But he honestly

(32:31):
so if you knew you were or that is stretching
before the first team for like twenty minutes, if we
were secure, we would both say, oh, give me the
over for a grant. Right, you guys have a workout
room here. No, they don't have a workout trailer. This
isn't the tour you more on take a well, that's
like we went to when I went to Cyprus Point.

(32:51):
You get off, you park at a park lot, You
walk up the pro shops about the size of our
studio here the shirts? Did you walk out there? Guys
who are drinking coffee and you want to use the range? Dude,
the range Life told you the range looks like it
hasn't been up. This is the greatest, the number one
golf course in the world. Yeah, along with Pine Valley.
I mean this year, I think it was voted number one.
And you get off there and guys are coffee behind

(33:12):
it the first fifth, I know you can reach the
touch the pro shop while you're hitting your driver off
the first tee on the best golf course on the planet.
And guys are standing there and they say. When I said, well,
you're gonna go hit balls in the range, people don't
do that there. Somebody starts laying on. Hey, Sean, can
you give me a push? Exactly, And then I went down.
We're walking. He goes the first team and my buddy goes,

(33:32):
that's the range. I said, what it looked like. I'm
always there a little bit more. Yeah, it looked like
the gorse on the reg when you're playing out of
the gorse and the rough like last week at the
death page, right like goat track. He said, people don't
hit balls here. They expect you get off, be loose
when it's your tea time. Tee it up. Let's go
at your caddy and get to walking. Hey, you want
to breakfast ball, you get in on the first That's

(33:53):
exactly I'm gonna take them all again. No, the only
one is off the first tea. That's it. Keep it moving,
that's it. That's exactly right.

Speaker 4 (33:59):
Yeah, you don't drop a ball, I'd say, oh yeah, hey,
I took a seven on that hole.

Speaker 1 (34:03):
You if you try to, you did not. You know
what the caddies will do. Yeah, keep it moving, dude,
let's go, yep, let's go. Those guys. Those guys are
the ones who keep pace the play at eighth there.
It's not the ranger, it's caddies bloopers. Yep. So I
would be hard pressed. I couldn't make the bet on
six and a half right now because I wouldn't know
which way to go. That's where I'm sitting on the
Texans right.

Speaker 4 (34:22):
The best four caddies to have are the ones that
they they can tell you exactly where your ball is
every single time.

Speaker 1 (34:28):
You sure it's there. I know it's there. I know
this course like the back of my hand. Those guys
will see you take four swings on the first hole
when you're going, and by whole three, they can tell
you exactly what to hit, how you should hit it. Yeah,
hey hit a four iron here, No way, no, no, no
hit a right here, right, Well, that looks like it slopes.
I'm just tellingesting. I'm telling you that putt breaks towards
the ocean, not on this hole. It doesn't, but yeah

(34:49):
it does. It look at the slope and then you
do because you think you know off the green the
right way. Then he's got the flag stick in his
hand and he just gives you the side shrug right there,
like I told you. Yeah, maybe on whole five you'll
you'll trust read this pretty well.

Speaker 4 (35:03):
You know, I've carried a few bags here. I think
I think I know how this course plays. That's right,
all right. It is a Sean Salisbury Show, Sports Talk
seven ninety. When it comes to a decided advantage this weekend. Unfortunately,
I don't think you've got it. We'll discuss that here.
It is the Sean Salisbury Show, Sports Talk seven ninety.
But you know what, Sean, yesterday I had barbecue and

(35:26):
you're cued up.

Speaker 1 (35:27):
I am cute up.

Speaker 4 (35:27):
I mean, look, anytime you throw brisket at me, anything
like that, I'm all about it. The only thing I
could think of those I was eating is I said,
Saint Jaybar.

Speaker 1 (35:36):
It's not It's not Jbar. And barbecue. It's not it's
it is not the work of my guy. A test
that I did, I did I I didn't even have
to do the blind taste test. I did it, and
then it immediately made me say, you know what, I'm
not strying.

Speaker 4 (35:49):
I'm not doing any of those things. But immediately I
need to get back over to twenty two one Leland Street.
I need that brisket. I need that volapeno cheddar sausage.
I need those pork ribs. I need a rush in
the in Hoffee and the crew.

Speaker 1 (35:59):
I need those guys over at Jbarm Barbecue and you know,
no reservation needed, they pop on in there in the
great customer service. You know what else, even if the
barbecue you had your say was good, even if it was,
it's still not them, as Matt Thomas, that's fine, fine,
it's still not them. So if you want great, you
go to Jbarm Barbecue. And you know, I sit there

(36:20):
and think all the time. I said, well, if you
are a herbivore, you can still get your stuff. But
if you're a carnivore, no, you're walking through that door
and you're saying this is for me. The smell you
know when you see cartoons and you can see the
smell of some you can see it on the cartoon,
you like to the air.

Speaker 4 (36:39):
And you start levitating, floating over towards it right now. Jbarm,
that's it, Jbarm.

Speaker 1 (36:44):
You will go in there like you're on a Looney
Tunes and say, I smell it, and I can see
the smell, and you'll start flying in the air like
you're in the matrix suspended. Where is that place to
get that great food? I contend because I've had a
lot of barbecue outside that and I am the guy
who intentionally tests other places.

Speaker 7 (37:00):
Mm hm.

Speaker 1 (37:01):
When that when that dog on, you know when they
say send you out and she sent him back to
you know in the country song, send it out when
she at that sweet tea and send you back to
to to get him. That's what it is. Oh, I
went out somewhere else. Check it out. Thank god. Direction.
That's a direction right back to Jbarm twenty two oh
one Leland Street. Make a country song out of it,
because it'll work. All roads find their way.

Speaker 4 (37:21):
I mean I almost turned into my dog Pixie, where
you know she just starts sniffing in the air. Hey,
where's that food at when it comes to Jbarm Barbecue
Because the food it stands on its own, the atmosphere
in the venue itself stands on its own. Then you
see that full service bar, you see the beer garden outside,
and then you also you know you're telling yourself, well,
I'm going to eato. Parking could be a little tough
nae at jbar M Barbie.

Speaker 1 (37:42):
Bring your dog, sit outside, watch the games on the
canner at night. There you go. If you ever want
to see Pixie sniffing in the air.

Speaker 4 (37:47):
Come to Jbarm Barbecue because I'll be sitting out there
on the on the patio out there in the beer garden,
enjoying a good meal and enjoying a couple of drinks,
and Pixie and Chako will be hanging out with me.
But it's jbr M Barbecue twenty two one, one Leland Street,
J bar M Barbecue right there in Edo.

Speaker 5 (38:04):
Back to the Sean Salisbury Show on Sports Talk seven
ninety Your astros, your rockets, your.

Speaker 1 (38:13):
Voice, John, you know we've been talking about you all
to me to interrupt here A little surprised that Cincinnati
was overwhelmed or the Dodgers obviously heavy favorite.

Speaker 2 (38:24):
Right.

Speaker 1 (38:25):
I don't thought they put out I.

Speaker 4 (38:26):
Was, I mean, just because you know, Francona thought, and
I thought their pitching was going to be better.

Speaker 1 (38:30):
But I mean, look, maybe the Dodgers.

Speaker 4 (38:33):
There is power in winning a World Series and realizing
that you can do it, and and having most of
that crew back. And I mean, I think the Dodgers
might be like kind of some of those astros teams
that by our standards, did not perform like the other
ones did, and once they got into the postseason, they're like,
this is our time. The Dodgers might be that team,
like they they It wouldn't surprise me at all because

(38:54):
I think, do they have Philadelphia next?

Speaker 1 (38:57):
I think I think they're matched up with Philadelphia.

Speaker 4 (39:00):
Yes they are, Yes they are so so I mean,
you go up to Philadelphia, you win one of those games,
you get him back to Dodger Stadium in a five
game series.

Speaker 1 (39:08):
That could get interesting there.

Speaker 4 (39:09):
So no, We're gonna get to Detroit and Cleveland gonna
play the first one again. Today, boy, I'll tell you
what I mean. For all of the love of aj Hinch,
he had a pinch hit opportunity. Jami Jones pinch hit
for Riley Green, and the the thought process behind it was, well,
Green doesn't hit well against lefties. Yeah, but he's hit

(39:29):
thirty six home runs this year. I don't think I'm
pinch hitting for a guy that hit thirty six home runs.
You can talk about matchups all you want, but yeah,
I mean imagine that right here. Like, let's just say,
for the sake of argument, even though that Jordon his
splits against lefties are really good, what if what if
you do that with Jordon and then you lose that game?

Speaker 1 (39:47):
We would be losing our minds. Oh, there's no doubt.
And I mean, and that's pretty much to me. You
don't pinch hit for some of your best players. Although
you don't, You just let him swing the bat and
see where it goes. Man, I'm with you.

Speaker 4 (39:57):
Look, when it comes to the postseason, I don't give
a dm about the regular season numbers at that point
because I've seen guys that hit two eighteen as a
whole during the season that once they get into the postseason,
they say, you know what that was?

Speaker 1 (40:08):
That?

Speaker 4 (40:08):
Now got Now I got a new approach. I'm gonna
be handling it a little bit differently here. So yeah,
I'm not doing that, but you're gonna get that.

Speaker 1 (40:16):
You're gonna get the Padres and Cubs for a chance
to move on and face the Brewers. Funny story about
the Brewers too, and then you're gonna get Boston and
New York a little bit later on. So we'll get
back THENTO the Texans conversation because of decided advantage unfortunately
not on the Texans side this week. We'll do that
to open up to seven o'clock hot. We're just getting
going here on a Thursday edition Sean Salisbury Show, Sports

(40:40):

Never sounded so good.

Speaker 6 (42:15):
Okay, let's do this.

Speaker 2 (42:16):
Sean Salisbury to USC Trouph longtime friend Shawn Salisbury.

Speaker 5 (42:22):
Dan Matthew, excuse, this is the Sean Salisbury Show.

Speaker 4 (42:31):
You get the Texans getting ready for the Ravens on Sunday.
Talking to them right here, Guardians, Padres, Yankees all going
to be playing game threes because they win Game two
to even up their series, and uh Texas Tech coming
up Saturday night. TDCU Stadium coverage is gonna start at
five over on KPRC nine fifty.

Speaker 1 (42:52):
The decided advantage I've I've come to realize and not
even realize pretty much known this coming into this week,
even without Lamar Jackson out there, Todd Munkin's gonna find
a way to have that offense still moving the football.
Pretty damn good. Brother. He's been really good at both levels.
Yes he has.

Speaker 4 (43:10):
Like you want to talk about a couple of national titles. One,
what has Georgia done since Todd Munkin took up, you know,
the Harbaugh's brother in law's advice.

Speaker 1 (43:20):
And said, hey, you know, actually it was the other
way around.

Speaker 4 (43:23):
He talked to John and said, hey, you know know
this guy in Athens I used to coach basketball there.
It's a pretty good offensive coordinator. I know you're looking
for a new guy. Should think about him.

Speaker 1 (43:31):
Well, And he did, and he and he made Lamar
a better player, Damn right, and he expanded the offense.
And Monkins, well, you know what they've done Georgia, they
haven't won a national title since Monkin's been gone. We're
inn sec That's exactly right. So there is It was
a good get. You know, you always want to We'll
go right to college to the NFL and Lamar lamartin
tough got to coach because you're like, how do I

(43:51):
use him? And there's so much I got so many
ways I can use him. It's a blessing, but it's
also man, I got to I got to dial in
and get him to maximize what kind of you know,
his game. So I assure you this will be no pushover.
It will not. You're not gonna curb stomp him even
if you play well, they're there. There's a little bit
of pride. Uh And I'm being a bit facetious and
understating the pride they will. I would imagine Horball's message

(44:15):
all week long as we're not getting embarrassed in our
own building.

Speaker 4 (44:18):
Basically, we're not getting embarrassed in our own building. And
we're also not falling to one in four. Yeah, I
mean that's that's another one too, because one in you know,
two and three, you still feel like you're in it.

Speaker 1 (44:29):
One in four.

Speaker 4 (44:29):
I mean, the last time I can remember a team
coming back from that was what the three Jets when
they finally made the change from Testa Verdi over to
to Chad Pennington. Yeah, and then they they went on
a little bit of a run, got in the playoffs,
got to believe the divisional round. But still, I mean,
you've got a hell of a road, and that was

(44:50):
even one less game back then, so now, I mean
you've got one more to be able to try to
make up some time. But then it's also I mean,
what are the other teams in your division doing? The
Colts canntinue to win, Jags continue to win. I mean,
let's just say those teams, I don't even know who
they're playing this week, but let's just see they pick
up a win.

Speaker 1 (45:08):
You're one in four their four and one. I don't
care how many times do you play them. You're not
making that up. Yeah, I would agree, And that's why
this is monumental, quite frankly, for both teams, because Pittsburgh's
not going away for them either. I mean, it's it's
a tough this is a tough task and you're on
the road against the team that was has been embarrassed
a couple of weeks now by good teams, you know,

(45:31):
and they they're not And and when when you're talking
about Baltimore is they're a pillow fight finesse team right now,
even with injuries normally their backups will still fist fight you.
Right now. It's like, I mean, we're not laughing with
them right now. People are like, you know, they're they're
murmuring about man, Baltimore, what's going on with these guys? Well,
here you are. And that's a dangerous team because those

(45:53):
coaches are going to coach their ass off and John
will be on them all week long to make sure
that they maximize. It doesn't matter, and he'll preach that
I don't care we play with and that's we're getting paid,
so let's go play. So the Texans are gonna have
to really really be on top of it this week,
even though and the curse of being favored on the

(46:13):
road against the team with some pride, gonna have to
play your best offense and I know it's the best
offensive game you are even though their defense is bankrupt.
You just will because of the circumstances that surround this game.

Speaker 4 (46:24):
Well, I mean, you hear complimentary football all the time, right,
I mean, and it has been anything but complimentary football
for the Texans, because, make no mistake about it, the
three games you've lost this year, you lost them because
of your offense.

Speaker 1 (46:35):
You didn't lose it because of your defense.

Speaker 4 (46:37):
And I understand that it's kind of the chicken in
the egg gets Oh well, you know this pitcher gave
up this in the in the later parts of the game.
So it was on the Astros pitching, No, it wasn't.
You went one for eleven with runners in scoring position.
How the hell is that?

Speaker 1 (46:49):
On the pitching? You didn't give them anything to work with.
So if you don't have a margin of eric, guess what,
you're gonna fall off that tight rope. And they're not
playing well enough to have a lot of weak and
overcome a bad quarter offensively, they're not. Now, like I said, if.

Speaker 4 (47:02):
They turn teams over more than I could say, maybe
they can, but they don't do that enough.

Speaker 1 (47:06):
Right, And you know what has been If there's been
a defensive weakness, which hasn't been much, and I'm letting
you in the end zone, very often. But what if
you say there's been a little bit that's got to
get tightened up. What has it been? Linebacker? And they're
beinging their run defense man four.

Speaker 4 (47:21):
Point two yards per carry, which the Ravens have been
slightly worse than you their four point six.

Speaker 1 (47:26):
Well, who's the best back in the game right now? Yeah?
You don't. Do you think Monkin's not gonna lean on
running downhill on this one? So you're gonna have to
shore up some tackling because he will test you and
his own standards.

Speaker 4 (47:37):
I mean, he's even shown frustration on the sidelines with
some of the fumbles, So you don't think he's saying, okay,
hey no, Lamar, then this is more on me.

Speaker 1 (47:45):
Yes, three take in four games for a guy who's
a monster player and doesn't fumble. That's again who's going
to be probably running like a man possessed this week.
So now, like I said, is it insurmountable, Absolutely not.
This is the time to get him. But you can't
put it this way. You play average football. Even if
you play if you play offense the way you did

(48:07):
in the first two and a half to three quarters
last week against Tennessee, you're not winning you will be
down by two scores going into that point and then
matter Cooper Rush, he's won plenty of games as the backup,
you will not win. So you got to give me
fourth quarter game plan, fourth quarter aggressiveness, fourth quarter offense.
Last week. I know it's Tennessee, but you got to
give me that to be around. And it's like I said, well,

(48:29):
are we crowning Baltimore a great team? Absolutely not, But
I do know a lot about Baltimore in the organization
and what they're about. It will not be easy. We
will not. One in three teams that are Super Bowl
caliber teams when they're healthy are dangerous because they've been
humiliated a few times this year.

Speaker 4 (48:46):
There is one time that I can remember at least
visual evidence of man that was coached up because we
heard it even too. Was the playoffs a couple of
years ago. Demiko Ryans telling Christian Harris, hey, once he
makes that off step right there, moved this way because
he's going, and then sure enough and he took it
to the house.

Speaker 1 (49:05):
Well, let's hope that they're studying as much tape as
Demiko is. You know the players, That's one thing if
your coach can tell you that. Then he know he's
looking at all the tape and looking at little keys
that get him going, little things that you do that
say give me whatever advantage, and you're always looking for
that advantage.

Speaker 2 (49:22):
You know.

Speaker 1 (49:22):
I watched it last week and it was Jalen Ramsey
was at he's in Pitts not no, not Pittsburgh, he's
in uh yeah, he's in Pittsburgh from Miami, right, and
he was going to block a kick and jumped off sides.
I mean he was where the holder is by the
time ball was staff. You know, he got a head start.
But what they were teaching him, and it was very

(49:42):
It might have been Greg GOLs. I don't know who
it was, but it's true because I was a holder.
The second you show hand to the snapper, it's one
thousand and one snap. Well they went showed hand. It
was like one thousand and one on one thousand and two.
So he got jumped up. But it's a smart move.
You give him five xyrs. Who really cares, right, they're
inside field goal range and sa anyway, take your chance
and hope that you get it. You guess right, you

(50:03):
block a punt or you block a field goal, and
you never know what happens. It's the same that you're
always looking for. Just that little is to watch a
guard's hands. If you're an inside interior lineman, heavy your light,
Oh right, you see him, white knuckle in it and stuff.
You see the white Oh they're leaning forward, think run
if they're soft in where they can get out of
that stance or left tackle needs to get out because

(50:25):
you got an edge. Rush that gets around the edge.
You know, get the one hundred miles an hour turns
the corner. You want to get out of that stance quick.
So your weight, you're almost you're not on your heels,
but your your balance is leaning towards heading behind you
as opposed to head and forward. So little keys like that.
That and good centers you know what they do too.
They'll squeeze the ball before they snap it. Sometimes if
it's on too squeeze it on one. Just a little

(50:47):
squeeze you white knucklet. So the nose guard of the
interior defensive tacks like squeeze a white knucklet, going all
those things. If you're a defensive lineman, I also take quarterbacks.
The smart ones under center keep their hands open the
whole time. If not. What do you think they do?
You know guys will go in there with their hands open.
First of all, you've got to cram a finger. You're
gonna break a finger if if you don't open it.
That's exactly right. So get it open all the time,

(51:09):
because what if you're going on too and the center's
on one and he snaps the premature. You're on the
sidelines with the dog on cast on your hand, but
you keep it open. But the ones who close it
and fly their hands open when the ball's come and snap.
If you're a defensive tag, he said, boom when he
opens bam. Now the smart one opens them up on
the first one and tries to bait them. But you're
looking for those keys, and Domico saw it. Let's hope

(51:30):
his guys see it, because you're going to need some
some keys that give you a It's like a good linebacker.
The keys a certain running back like a guard's pull
and understands he's been studying his keys. He pulls, I'm
filling and you do it. Or you know somebody's coming
he pulls and goes the other way. Somebody's coming to
trap you or what have you. You look for those
keys and Demiko obviously no, he saw Key shared it

(51:51):
and that's good coaching. Now the player's got to match
that study on both sides of the ball. Hopefully they can.

Speaker 4 (51:58):
The Texans trying to avoid falling to one in four
on this season. All right, you ever paid for something
and then thought you were getting something else, Well, we
always say that's dirty pool, and this might have been
dirty pool. We'll talk about it right here. It is
the Sean Salisbury Show Throwback Thursday.

Speaker 1 (52:16):
So when DNM Leasing just delivered a truck to a
customer who had listened to D and M for more
than twenty five years, think about that. And he'd been
hearing these commercials forever, right for decades. He believed leasing
was just renting a car. I put in air quotes,
something you only did if you couldn't afford to buy.
And who hasn't been there, right guys. But DNM Leasing's
here to change that. That changed when the dealership offered

(52:36):
him an eighty four month loan. He knew he'd trade
the truck in in a few years, and he knew
he'd end up well upside down again owing more than
it was worth. Well, that's when he remembered the DNM
commercials ever seen a Texas title and when you trade
in a long finance contract, the only thing you own
is negative equity. Those quotes, so he called DNM leasing

(52:58):
showed him is that leasing isn't about what you can afford.
It's simply the smarter way most people pay for their vehicles. Smarter.
See what smarter does for you, and DNM leasing is smart.
Leasing isn't renting. Let me say it again. Leasing isn't renting.
It's smarter. Who doesn't want smarter? Harder doesn't always work.
Smarter does, and especially when it puts money in your

(53:20):
pocket and makes it easier for you at the beginning,
the middle, and the end. Dial seven one three two
nine zero one thousand, seven one three two nine zero
one thousand or visit us at DNM It's DNM Leasing,
dmauto leasing dot Com, dmauto leasing dot Com. They continue
to win awards and there's a reason why DNM It's

(53:41):
dmauto leasing dot Com.

Speaker 5 (53:44):
The Salisbury stakeout on seven ninety is brought to you
by Helsburg Diamonds. Find the engagement ring worthy of your
story yet Helsburg Visit a Hellsburg store or Helsburg dot com.

Speaker 3 (54:00):
All right, Sean, what are you hearing out there now?
The Salisbury's takeout? Salsbury Takeout on the.

Speaker 1 (54:07):
Sean Salisbury Show. You know that time of the morning
we do. It's every single day here on the Shawn
Salisbury Show.

Speaker 4 (54:17):
Sports Talk seven ninety Texans gonna get ready for the
Ravens again today as they'll play on Sunday in Baltimore.
Willy Anderson Junior rest day from practice yesterday and Derek
Stingley Junior also did not practice. He's got an oblique issue. Guardians,
Padres Yankees. I'll keep their season alive as the Dodgers

(54:38):
beat the Reds a two four.

Speaker 1 (54:39):
All right, Sewan.

Speaker 4 (54:40):
So if I were to tell you six hundred dollars
for an event that is called truly in the evening
of Lionel Richie with Friends, what would you think that
would entail? It's Lionel Richie with Friends.

Speaker 1 (54:57):
I would think that that means maybe and I don't
even know if he's is it like that? That's what
friends are for for him? Was he involvedon Warwick, I
mean he's still. I think he was part of We
Are the World? Was he was the lead guy? I
think I think he was yeah, we are the Dean
Warwicks still live? She is right, I'd have to look up.
Is Deon Warwick still alive? Let's see that was dying?

(55:19):
I don't know a Warwick dead? Are alive? Dion alive?

Speaker 7 (55:24):
Right?

Speaker 1 (55:24):
Still alive? Yeah, there you go. So, no, okay, that's concert.
Maybe maybe a little a cozy concert any kind right,
like yeah, like a little uh the cozy Confines concert
where you're getting a little you're getting a little closer
to it's you say, six hundred or six thousand, six hundred, Yeah, yeah,
maybe New Zeros. Maybe a cozy confines, you know, like

(55:45):
one of those. It's like not a big concert yet
six hundred bucks for a cozy ticket seems like you're
not spending that much.

Speaker 4 (55:51):
It's one of those you know, the band starts playing
the beginning of All night Long, and you're like, oh,
this is gonna be great, ladies and gentlemen. Can I
bring out my good friend you know, right mister so
and so miss people there?

Speaker 1 (56:03):
Yeah? Right, I don't really You're like, oh man, what
a great show. Oh this is so great. Yeah, So
I'm not sure what it gets you? What is it?

Speaker 8 (56:10):
All?

Speaker 1 (56:10):
Right?

Speaker 4 (56:10):
So, according to page six. Truly an evening with Lonel
Richie and friends, you know, would make you believe that, yeah,
you're gonna get a nice little show. And this was
people piled into a fifteen hundred seat amphitheater in New
York City called town Hall, And unfortunately it was not
for tunes. It was Linel Richie to talk about his

(56:32):
new book with Robin Roberts.

Speaker 1 (56:37):
The answer to that is absolutely not.

Speaker 7 (56:39):
So.

Speaker 1 (56:39):
Like I said, I can go buy his new book.
I can go buy his new book. Why don't you
just put out a video for twenty seven ninety five
right hard back book wherever when it comes out. You
wouldn't even pay sixty dollars to go to that. No,
what do I care about you talking about your book.
I don't need you to talk about your book because
I'm actually going to read it, So don't splice. Like
somebody says, hey, man, you see the movie and no,

(57:00):
don't tell me, and then they proceed to tell you
how it ended, and you're like, wait a second, or
what went into it? I'm like, well, I just told
you not to tell me. Are they are those the
same people that will also well, you know, the book
was better than the movie, of course, thanks, isn't it all? Thanks? Guys?
If we didn't know, because you have five hundred pieces
instead of an hour and a half, right, so, and
you can get a little more in depth in the
book than you can in the movie, and then the movie.

(57:21):
Remember this just so people know. They embellish a lot
of things in movies, and that's why we go to
movies because it gets us out of our everyday routine. Yeah, no,
I'm not as much I like Lionel Ritchie is unless
you're letting me sit next to him and do the interview.
If I got to sit there and listen review your book.
Are you gonna review chapter one then sing a song?
Then review chapter to him? Sing a song? Absolutely not.

(57:42):
I want to hear him sing. If you know what
all you got to do is put out a tweet
or whatever, tell us how your book, How you go
get the book, and I'll spend the toy now way
if you're asking if it's got old school stories and
everything in it? When I buy the book hardback for
twenty five thirty bucks, Yeah, but I'm not paying six
hundred dollars. Have you tell me about a book, then
I'm going to try. Are you giving me a book

(58:03):
signed and singing for me?

Speaker 8 (58:05):
Say?

Speaker 4 (58:05):
I mean there's gotta be a meet and greet in
there too, you know, shake the hand and you know.

Speaker 1 (58:10):
Oh, big fan, you know the answer is no.

Speaker 4 (58:12):
I mean, you know, hello, it's me that you were
looking for, like any of those you know. But apparently
the natives started to get restless. According to page six,
somebody walking out. They were pissed people walking out. Someone
yelled shut up and sing. Another person was escorted out
sweet screaming.

Speaker 1 (58:33):
I want my money back. Why did you talk about redundant? Hey,
I'm going to tell you about the book. I'm actually
asking you to go buy for six hundred bucks. Well,
here's one thing. And I love Lionel Richie and I
know you do too, dude, all respect in the world.
Whoever's telling him to do this or if you, Hey,
I got a great idea, let's tell him. I would
go buy my book. But we'll do it for like

(58:54):
an hour and a half for six hundred bucks and
fifteen hundred people will be there. I'm like, wait a second,
I love you that much. Secondly, one thing about stars, dude, superstars,
not all of them. I don't put an umbrella on
them to cover them all. Not a blanket statement. But
they are the most self important people in the world. Dude,

(59:16):
and we've been around him. If you want to know
how important they as, they have self InCom that I
was gonna say, or at least they have self important
people who are around them who give them bad advice. Yeah,
tell them, Hey, do this. This sounds like a great idea.
No it actually Oh I'm waiting for the one to
say no, that's not a great idea. You know what
it is?

Speaker 4 (59:32):
We run into this in our business too. Pr people
all the time. Hey, would you like to have so
and so on? I think your audience would really enjoy it.
I didn't want to turn it on them and go,
what would they enjoy about that?

Speaker 1 (59:41):
Please tell me? And here would they enjoy Right, here's
another thing. Yeah, you'll love it. He played cricket twenty
years ago. Yeah, I'm gonna have this gymnast on with you.
What about my audience tells me that they're going to
care about a gymnast coming on with us, they get
the meter or him either one. Yeah, I understand the
Olympics and you with the Summer Olympics, and you want

(01:00:02):
to have Michael Phelps on.

Speaker 4 (01:00:03):
Hey, Dan, we would love to have Scott Hanson. Is
that is that Scott who was the one? Not Hamilton?
Scott Hamilton. There you go, Scott in an h I
knew it was there. Hey, hey, we'd love to have Scott.
I think your I think your audience in Houston would
really love it, really hot better figure skating.

Speaker 1 (01:00:19):
Houston, Texas. Yeah, I'm sure they would. That'll go over that,
that'll go well. And by the way, once again, we're
gonna spend fifteen minutes talking about the Triple Salcow. Everybody's
got a fact that I know there's a triple Salcow
is a problem. Everybody's got a job to do. I
get that.

Speaker 4 (01:00:32):
But guess what, maybe sports radio and medicine hat Alberta
can probably be a better spot for that than Houston, Texas. Now, look,
somebody reaches out, Hey, Lance Berkman's got a new book out.

Speaker 1 (01:00:42):
Would you guys love to have him?

Speaker 8 (01:00:43):
Sure?

Speaker 1 (01:00:44):
He was college teammates, my brother. But guess what we're
not doing Lance and asked us to pay six hundred
bucks to go listen to him talk about the book
that we're going to go read.

Speaker 4 (01:00:51):
Okay, apparently also to this was another one. That's why
I started laughing. At one point, according to page six,
he told a story about being robbed.

Speaker 1 (01:01:00):
Somebody in the crowd shot back, so we're weak. He hey,
he opened up. That can work everyone, I was robbed,
No kidding. So fifteen hundred other people now sing something
sing we are in the world. Have the group, say,
Zach Royd, that's probably it. I mean people probably thinking that.

(01:01:21):
You know, that's how he's going to bring in the
you know that kid there's here too, right, yeah, exactly, No,
absolutely not. And anybody I'm not here, you're gonna bring
out a hologram of them. Dude. Listen, I'm a huge
James Patterson fan, great author, right, No, yeah, I'm not
going to listen to James Patterson talk about his book
for six hundred bucks and he does that part for
a living. Guess what I'm gonna do. I'm going to

(01:01:41):
buy it and I'm gonna read it, and then I'm
gonna say what a great book and recommend it to
fifteen hundred other people, but not the fifteen hundred that
paid six hundred bucks a person to go watch you
well tell us about the book. We're going to read.

Speaker 4 (01:01:53):
Brother, Just just go to a Barnes and Noble and
then if you want to have the chairs set up
and he knees up there. Hey, let me tell you
about this all that's so great? Hey, read us a
couple of passages of it. We love, we love to
hear some.

Speaker 1 (01:02:05):
You know, now, if you're telling me you're going to
show up at my house sing for twenty minutes to
my kid and read him a book to go to
bed at night, it's a home concert. I'm in. Yeah,
we're in. Sorry, No, no, no, I'm not. What's chapter
three that reminds me I was raising my daughter and
she turned out to be pretty talented as well. Hey,

(01:02:25):
check it out in my book. Hey, thanks for that's
six hundred dollars memoir. We appreciate it.

Speaker 4 (01:02:30):
I just I can only think of right now, scene
of one of those cutaways on Family Guy where it's
like a kid performing in Peter Griffin sitting in the
front row, and he goes, you.

Speaker 1 (01:02:39):
Are not drawing me in. You're right, dude, I wouldn't
pay six hundred bucks to listen to me talk about
a book if I wrote a book, right, I just
do mean who does that. There's nothing worse. And I
say this with full honesty. There's nothing worse in this
industry than someone promoting a book. It really like, I mean,
that's that, It's normal. But check this year. Right, Oh hey,

(01:03:01):
we're here to talk about the book. What do we
care about your book? Man? Everybody does and everybody promotes it.
I get that part, but don't bring me to a
book signing and charge me six hundred bucks. Then I
won't read your book just to say, you know, I'm pissing. Yeah,
I understand why you promote you book and go on
a book tour. Just like the movie Junkets. Right, I'm
telling you about the movie that you're gonna go watch.
I get it. I've covered him. I have espe go

(01:03:25):
cover Keanu Reeves and play catch with him in in
in Central Park and talk to him about the replacements,
which we did. It was cool playing catch with him,
but had I just had to cover the junket without
playing catch with the bug and football? What it was
like play quarterback? I'd been like, great, I'm talking to
a celebrity about a movie I'm gonna go watch anyway,
Thanks appreciate it, thumbs up, but I'm not doing it
for six hundred bucks. Let alone. I'll read it, but

(01:03:46):
now that you've charged me six hundred books, I'm not
gonna read it out of the fact that you you
posed me, Robin. That reminds me of the time, you know,
I got held at gun point on the street. That's
the way it feels like to me, Bud. Yeah, right,
we were just Camo festa forever. We were getting ready

(01:04:07):
to go in. I had this big headset on and
they said, and we are the world? Could you be?
There was a time? Right now? How about sing that
for us? Yeah? Right now now I'm good. See.

Speaker 4 (01:04:16):
I mean, like, well, who was the not James Patterson,
who James Lipton? I mean, like you know, like that's somebody.
I don't even think James is still with us, but
like something like that. Inside the Actors Studio, they're not
e behind the music, but whatever.

Speaker 1 (01:04:28):
They parodied my Diamond at my TV by the in
the Actors Studio because he was a deep dive interview
guy and got him to relax and ask me now
now for that, I am paying certain. I don't know
about six, but I do want to go there listen
to right, I want to go. I want to go
for an hour and a half listen to I would
love to listen to Eastwood talk about his career. Yeah, yeah,

(01:04:51):
but I'm not going six hundred bucks to tell Clint
to tell me he's writing a book, Dirty Harry. I
was really excited. See. I want to hear about who
fought behind the scenes. I want to hear what it's
like to be in a movie with Christian Bale when
he's in a bad mood. So Christian tell us about
the light guy. Yeah, I was really in character. Yeah, yeah,
I never got out of it. Neither did his teeth.

(01:05:11):
Let's say, don't don't mess with those method actors. Allow it.
They because they're pissed off because they had to lose
weight or something six days.

Speaker 4 (01:05:19):
Of course they're mad. Exactly what I asked that guy
about being angry. Hey, Tom Hanks, you in a good
mood being here on a deserted isle, which I mean
wasn't deserted, but get my point. Oh you look like
you're haggard in seven days. Yeah, supposedly a nice guy,
but you know it's one of those. Yeah, he wasn't

(01:05:40):
really nice. I wonder why.

Speaker 1 (01:05:41):
Yeah, no, kidding, all right, well.

Speaker 4 (01:05:43):
Let's get back into the football conversation because somebody that
maybe in some ways we've been pleading to help themselves,
well they did anything but help yesterday, and we'll discuss
that here. It is a Sean Salisbury show on a
throwback Thursday Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (01:06:00):
The Sewn Salisbury Show continued, You know he do you
like Huey Lewis in the news holding up the CD?
His His first stuff was a little new age from
my taste, But then sports came out. What movie was
that American Psycho? Oh, there you go, Christian Bale? What
a great movie. By the way, Hey, yeah, Christian Bale's
a hell of an actor though too. Man, Yeah, it's

(01:06:24):
not I shouldn't be laughing because I sound like a
psychopath laughing to it, especially with what he's doing in
that scene.

Speaker 4 (01:06:31):
But uh, still so every time I hear movie, you know,
in the song that he's doing the scene in is
uh it's hip to be Square, which is you know,
a fun upbeat song, hip hip you know with all that, Well,
you know, it wasn't too hip to be the other
guy in that scene right there, if you catch my draft.

(01:06:52):
But anyway, Uh, the Texans getting ready for the Ravens
on Sunday. Derek Stingley Junior still dealing with that oblique
and the Guardians, Padres, Yankees all keep their seasons alive.
The Dodgers and the Reds season as postseason baseball again
not the Astros continues on shdoor.

Speaker 1 (01:07:12):
Sanders Man, he's at it again.

Speaker 4 (01:07:14):
So it was made official yesterday that Dylan Gabriel is
going to get to start for the Browns against the
Vikings and then Kevin Stefanski. Most teams usually do it
like the Texans, either before or after practice the head
coach and then afterwards open locker room, all that kind
of stuff during the week. Well, Stefanci was asked, all right,
well then who's going to be the backup? And he said,

(01:07:35):
Flacco will still be the backup. So then, of course,
you know, this is one of those where, yeah, probably
you do go to Shador and you know, ask him, hey,
how do you feel, and look if he's disappointed at
that point, I have no problem with you know, look
I'm disappointed, but you know, at the same time, I
mean that decision's not up to me.

Speaker 1 (01:07:54):
It's up to me on the practice field.

Speaker 4 (01:07:55):
It's up to me in the meeting rooms, any of
those things, to be able to show the coaches that
I'm ready to go and you know, get my chance
and then we'll go from there.

Speaker 1 (01:08:02):
That's that's fine.

Speaker 4 (01:08:04):
Like last week, I told you, I thought that was
dirty poll by him of being approached for you know,
a few questions and it's his right to answer them.
I just know that it's Hey, man, read the room.
Your draft process did not go well? Why because of you?
This has probably not gone well? Why because of you?
And then you say what you say last week about

(01:08:24):
I can start in this league. I know I can't
see some of these guys, which some of those guys
would then turn around, look at you and say who
are you?

Speaker 1 (01:08:31):
And it's it's just time for him to encourage the
guys that are playing in front of him. And when
you hear like what Rex Ryan said, right, and he
responded playing the mind thing yesterday? Yeah, correct, that's what
it was. Right, is if he's listening, you know what
we tell just let it go. If he's paying attention

(01:08:53):
and that bothered him, what's gonna happen when he throws
a pick and they're crushing him all over the country.
If he gets a start. He does not deserve to
start right now. He has not earned the job. And
you say, well has Dylan Gabriel? Well, the only reason
he's earned it he played better apparently according to Cleveland.
And it sets in the meeting room and plays has
played better according to Cleveland. Then then shouldar Sanders sad?

(01:09:15):
And sure didn't get a lot of run? Oh we
didn't get it for all these people. If you're basing
it on college, well that decision is done because Dylan
Gabriel had a better college career. If you're basing it
on you just like the look, and he's a better
thrower of the football, fine, but will they win more?
And at some point times should Sander's good a chance
to play? And it might be this year, might be
in three weeks, who knows, But he needs to encourage
and maybe he is in a locker room. But when

(01:09:36):
you're listening to Rex, right, you don't need to respond
to that. Go play when you get a chance to play,
go take care of it. And I'm sure he's just
having fun, but you know he responds. So what's gonna
happen when they're when you when you throw three picks,
it'll happen, may happen to Dylan Gabriel, Are you gonna
Are you gonna respond in kind? Are you gonna deal
with it and take the pressure? Is it gonna be?
And I confess he did it shouldur Sanders has never
had to compete for a job. He's at at every level.

(01:09:56):
I think he's a talented kid, and I'm rooting for
him if he gets a chance. But at some point
in time, you just got to shut up and go
to work. Now I'm listening to go on a show
in Cleveland, but I'm also listening to guys talk about
on local radio shows. There's always clips and a guest

(01:10:17):
on talking about that. The talk is close to that
he's not prepared to be put in Now that's the
case that he needs to get prepared. I don't know,
you know, And they reliable sources, they're there, they're around
it every day, they talk to players, they're you know,
you'd be you can whether it's true or not. They're
local ones saying it. So where do you get it from?

(01:10:39):
The point is it's easy to like Shure to or
Sanders personal. I mean just said he's fun loving and
he's you know, he's a Sanders and he's he's got
a smile on his face. But it's also easy to say, dude,
you are setting yourself up for criticism if you're not careful.
You just got to be. It just gets to a
point and you're the third quarter and it is okay.
At some point in time when somebody comes to talk,
you say, listen, I'm rooting for Dylan to do great.

(01:11:00):
I hope Joe does well. I'm still working. I got
to get myself sure. Of course, you think all of
us thought when we were the third quarterback and said quarterback,
we were better than twenty five other number ones. We
all do. And then when you get out there and say,
I'm just gonna tell him, he just do understands they
were what thirteen and twelve under him at Colorado, And
I know it's tough. It ain't gonna get easier at

(01:11:21):
this level. I just just want him to understand that.
So and you know what, he's probably pretty grateful maybe
this week, cause in London, guess who, Dylan Gabriel's got
to face a blitzing coming out of nowhere from the
stands Brian Flores, Minnesota Vikings group that's already been over
there a week and has been staying there. So all
of it says this is going to be hard on
Dylan Gabriel offensively. So I'm and there are people that

(01:11:42):
are looking for Dylan Gabriel fans in that city and
media people and national media people that can't wait to
see Dylan Gabriel fail, which to me, I don't get it.
And if Schador was on there, people that don't like
him because they think he's you know, it celebrates too
much and it's too flat. She and all that stop it.
You should be rooting for him as well. I've never

(01:12:04):
understood somebody rooting against somebody in your own city that
you just want to fail. Okay, I just have never
understood that. And I've always been the part root for
your teammates. Your opportunity is gonna come, and I think
karma is alive and well in the world. I do
you know, support and be there and show your coaches
that you're immersed into your studies because I don't care

(01:12:24):
how talented you are, you will get whether it's Dylan
Gabriel if he wasn't prepared, or Joe Flacke or Shador
Sanders if you are not prepared mentally. I don't care
how good physically are, it's gonna case you're gonna get
caught up. They will. They will find you and find
your weaknesses and humiliate you as a football player. It's happened.
We've all been there. Even when you were prepared, they

(01:12:45):
can humiliate. But when you sometimes we've all gone in
the game said man, I wasn't ready for that defense
or that look, and you walk out and said damn.
Then you go back watch the tape say well, he
really wasn't that big a deal. Should Should I have
studied more? I just you know, you hear it all.
The fact of the matter. All these people that are saying, oh,
you know Shaudure rooting for Dylan Gabriel to fail, Wait
till Shador gets it. Well, when he gets his chance,

(01:13:06):
hopefully he'll succeed. I hope Dylan Gabriel lights it up
this week. If he throws for three twenty and they win,
and throws two touchdowns and they win, what are we
gonna say, oh, first beginner's luck. I mean, what are
you gonna say? Yeah? Of course that they wanted him
to be. They wanted him to be more successful than
Flac or Schaudur It's it's stupid, but I just don't
get it. If you're getting to a point of him,

(01:13:27):
you should not be the focus of this football team
because you're setting yourself up with all this focus and
we're gonna expect you to play great. And if the
opportunity presents itself and you don't, guess what they do
to fifth round draft picks. If you go out there
two or three games and you're awful, you play in
the XFL. That's exactly what happens. First round pick. I'll
give you two or three years to fail or succeed,
but you don't get a haul passes his fifth round picks.

(01:13:48):
When you're the third quarterback on the well quite frankly,
or the fourth if Deshaun Watson was healthy, you probably
didn't make the team. In truth, you probably were. They
drafted Dylan Gabriel. They drafted him. He's a peace, that's
exactly right, but probably on the practice squad there, but
you don't make the roster. So it's just while I
do I like that. He seems like an engaging personality,

(01:14:09):
but he brings it on himself to mine. I understand,
you know what he comes across as a very immature
guy who's talented, then he's immature that the talks covering
up flaws to just go to work because when it
presents itself, and it will at some point in his career. Wait,
it might be this year. I would hope that you

(01:14:30):
why in the world do you think Flack goes the
backup this week? Because it's Minnesota. It's a tough team,
tough defense. And you also know that Flacco can handle
not getting any work and be prepared to go out
there and play Shador Sanders if he doesn't get any
work with the ones, which he won't as the third quarterback.
That you got to be well, if something happens, do
we throw him out there, because it can be devastating

(01:14:51):
trying to go against Brian Flores's team, because he will,
like I said, he's going to give you all kinds
of looks and he blitzed as much as anybody in football.
So with that, you do that. Now I believe something happened,
Dylan Gaber, you'd probably jump Joe Flacco and probably go
like you did to Jackson dart Well jumped Jamis Winson.
Give them a chance as a rookie butt. Just make
sure the one thing you don't blow it and it's

(01:15:14):
easy to do. I'm just telling you mentally is the thing.
If you're not prepared for what you're gonna see, we
never get to see the full physical skills because you'll
be overwhelmed. We've all been there and he's going to
be no different. And you're a fifth round pick. You're
not a first round pick. You don't get borrowed time.

Speaker 4 (01:15:31):
Brother, well, one of two choices, and unfortunately he took
the third. We'll discuss here. It is Sean Salisbury show
Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 5 (01:15:41):
Let the celebration start, or Sean Salisbury on Sports Talk seven.

Speaker 1 (01:15:45):
Ninety and Sanders took the third.

Speaker 4 (01:15:52):
Is your first choice is you can talk, but make
sure you say the right things. The second choice is
what he probably should have taken. And maybe that would
be the first, but it doesn't matter in terms of order.
Is now, I'm not talking today. You know there's and
you know if you're pressed on it, there's no need
for me to talk. Thirteen quarterback.

Speaker 1 (01:16:12):
You want to know, not that he needs to care
about it, but you want to know for the optics
point of view, which optics a lot of times. For
some matter for some don't. Can you imagine if they
were to come up and says, say, listen, man, I
can't wait to watch Dylan go out there and play great.
Joe was tough as hell. Yeah, and I'm learning a
lot from him. My time one day will come. I

(01:16:33):
don't know when, but I'm going to be ready for it. Yeah.
Say that, And then the next time they come up
to him say listen, I'm just trying to get ready.
Talk to Dylan or Joe or easier on yourself. Yeah,
you don't need to talk to me because right now
I haven't earned the talk about who they starting. Now,
all of a sudden, somebody gets banged up a little bit,

(01:16:53):
or they move you in them. Now, if he was
the number two guy, I'm all over it, saying are
you okay? How do you prepare yourself mentally as the
backup on the road in London possibly going to play
in your first game depending on what happens, I'll be ready.
You're right, there's just listen. We all overload our mouth
with our ass at times, we do. And he's a
young kid that we got. For me to tell you

(01:17:13):
about my experience exactly, we've all done it, but after enough,
because see, the thing is, he should be ahead of us,
ahead of most of them. Why he's grown up with
it his whole life. He should be ahead of ninety
five or ninety nine percent of people when it comes
to this pr stuff. Because ever since he pulled a
pacifire out and had a football in his hand, his

(01:17:35):
dad's been a star, and so he's seen how he's
dealt with it. And and the thing is, listen, Shadeur
can't be Dion. Why because Dion is one of the
greatest we've ever had his position. Shadur is a fifth
round draft pick trying to make a team and trying
to prove it to play right right now. He is
so and he was good at Colorado, but you know
he's not had to dig down deep and be told

(01:17:55):
you're the you lost the starting job because you're not
very good. So, but the the the verbiage and how
to handle it and listen, knowing Diane, I'm sure Dion's
telling him to go to make sure you're working and ready, because,
like I said, wouldn't it be a shame not to be?

Speaker 4 (01:18:09):
That was the most childish look I think I've ever
seen in my entire life mature.

Speaker 1 (01:18:13):
Yeah, it's it's silly, and he kept it up and
kept it up in his laugh and keeps it out. Okay,
we get the we get the first fifteen. That's funny, rude, right,
like you look like idiot, right, and there's no doubt,
and then go to work. Listen. I hope, I hope
it does. But there comes a point. And to answer
your question, think about how that in the national media
would adjust him saying, you know what, Uh, talk to

(01:18:35):
the guys who are going to impact this game. I'm
gonna be ready. I'm preparing to be ready, but you
should probably talk to the guys that are actually gonna
play on Sunday. And you know what, everybody say, guy's
going to work. That's the perception, and he may be
going to work, but the optics are telling you he's
more concerned with everybody else than he is his job.
And if you go by the local show in Cleveland,

(01:18:58):
they're here in words that he's not prepared. So what
does that to And let me tell you, as a rookie,
when you think you're prepared, study even a thousand times
more because you're not. I'm just telling you it. Listen,
Manning throws twenty eight interceptions. A rookie is prepared to
see is guess what he walked out of that season thinking.
And even when you have a good season, like rookies
like ce Jay Straddon, you have no idea. Really, you

(01:19:20):
look back and say, I don't even know how I
got through that, because you're actually just making place because
you're talented. A lot of times you're like swimming mentally
on the top. You see poison the rest, it's the
water polo guy under the water. His feet are staying
above water, going a million miles an hour. But you say, man,
those guys are really balanced and poised. And then when
they're done, they're like, I'm exhausted and I had no
idea what I was doing, but I went twenty to
twenty six. I've been there where you're like, I'm not

(01:19:43):
sure how I saw that blitz, but I did. I
didn't know what's coming. I just made a play. But
eventually then you say, well, I made a play, but
I'm not gonna be able to live like that. And
that's even when you're studying and I was afraid to
death not to be mentally prevent said, Okay, if I
make a physical mistake, I can live with that. But
if the physical most physical mistake comes at the result
of that, I didn't think about that. Yeah, you're mentally
or emotionally not prepared. Then the snowball effect continues, and

(01:20:07):
now you're playing catch up with the respect of your teammates.
As much as I'm sure they like Shador, what he
did yesterday bordered on immature as a third string quarterback.
Somebody you mentioned yesterday?

Speaker 4 (01:20:18):
Are we mentioned yesterday when it comes to the Texans
and the difference that they can make. Well, I do
want to start the eight o'clock hour after that, so
we'll do that right here. It is a throwback Thursday
edition Seawn Salisbury Show, Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (01:20:32):
Salsbury. Okay, let's do this.

Speaker 2 (01:20:39):
Sewn Salisbury usc truth, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.

Speaker 5 (01:20:45):
Dan Matthews excuse, this is the Sean Salisbury Show.

Speaker 4 (01:20:54):
Anderson Junior missing practice yesterday, just rest so he should
be back out there today. But the eyes are on
Derek Stingley Junior again out with that oblique issue. Guardians, Padres,
Yankees all take their Game two's of the wild Card series.
The Dodgers also take theirs and they win. Said serious,
so now they're gonna get the Phillies in the divisional

(01:21:15):
rounds seven one, three, two, one two five seven ninety
is the number I mentioned? Does somebody we mentioned yesterday
what he marked? And it's actually going off something that
you said about how he can open up this offense
and you know he he takes pressure because when it
comes to the passing game, does it not feel like
there's not trust just yet in Jayden Higgins or Jalen

(01:21:37):
Knowle from CJ Progress. Sure, right, normal they're targeted, but
it's at least when it comes to the passing game,
it really is a hierarchy. It's Niko. Obviously you've got
to get him as touches. You want to get him
as touches, and you still should want to. Then I
would say probably Jeff Schultz is number two. Schultz Dalton Schultz,
excuse me, I used to work with the Jeff Schultz,

(01:21:59):
and then Xavier Hutchinson probably is the thirst th.

Speaker 1 (01:22:02):
Way it is until they prove on a regular basis
that they are contay and they're sure. So I mean
there's all of that, and look, it's not to be
clouded by what the overarching problem is is you've got
a bad offensive line. That's that's really the key here.
But with what Marks has shown you on Sunday, and
even before that too, I mean the previous two weeks

(01:22:22):
Tampa Bay and then Jacksonville, where you're just like, god, man,
I get this guy involved more. You almost wonder if
after either of those two games that it's coaching meeting.
You know, all right, guys, let's go to work a
nick stick around for a second, Kayley from Demico, get
him prepared, running backs coach, get him prepared? Well, is
this guy ready? Isn't about when you watch the tape

(01:22:43):
and say, now, I'm sure there's things in past protection
or something they'll go through and say you got to
be better at this as a rookie. Of course, there
always is. You say it to a veteran, but you
can tell there's some dynamic parts of him that need
to be on the field. And it's one thing to
hear it when he has play. Oh yeah, I remember
what he did at Southern Conssissippi State and Southern col

(01:23:04):
Guy's a good player. That's fine and dandy, But when
he shows it here and you're a below average offense.
And that's just the reality. I didn't say blow average talent,
blow average offense. Doesn't it just make sense to say, well,
i've seen him. He's not a practice field all American,
the guy's a gamer. Doesn't it make sense to now
jump up and put more pressure on him and give

(01:23:25):
him more work all in the while of saying, okay,
if you can't handle the workload, we'll find out in
a matter. But he's proven so far that when the
ball's in his hands, good things happen. What are you
saving him for? What are you saving him for? And
if it means that it's situational that well, he's having
trouble doing this, but he's really good at these other things,

(01:23:47):
then put him in when you're going to do those
other things.

Speaker 4 (01:23:51):
It was like a guy Anton Smith when I was
in Atlanta and he had a stretch there where every
single time he touched the ball he took at the distance.
So then we ask Mike Smith, Hey, what's the deal,
what's the deal? And in so many words, it was, well,
you know, we don't trust him here, we don't trust
protection and all that. But my response to that is, well,
then you're not very good coaches. That's your problem. That's

(01:24:12):
not his problem. That's on you.

Speaker 8 (01:24:14):
Now.

Speaker 4 (01:24:14):
I understand like retention and all those other things, but
from what we can see, find a way to get
him involved.

Speaker 1 (01:24:21):
Even if it's even if it's on a limited basis.
You got at least build it up.

Speaker 6 (01:24:25):
Right.

Speaker 1 (01:24:25):
We talked about this. We know who Michael Turner is.
He ain't that guy anymore. Stop, he know Stephen Jackson is. Stop.
I'm all for Marxist and he but he put it
this way. He's proving the reasons you drafted him and
the reasons he's playing on Sundays now, not only that
you drafted him, that you traded up for. That's what

(01:24:47):
I'm saying you. It's one thing to do it and say, okay,
we did it. He's going to be a really good
player in the future. But if he showed it to
you at two places and then the most recent at
Southern cal and he did it at SC two, and
then he comes and was impressive in spring, in fall camp,
and now when he gets into the game, good things happen.
There's no way you scale back. You actually add more.

(01:25:09):
And especially I've been begging for years to get your
running back like well mix in the last couple, but
the running back involved in the passing game, well, you
saw what happened. When he does catch it, he knows
what to do with it, so it just puts pressure
on defense. Marx would would be getting a lot more touches.
And now with Joe out, and maybe you'd ever know,

(01:25:32):
maybe the whole season. You don't know how long it's
gonna last. Isn't this a great opportunity? And what if
he is the reason you can expand your offense. It's
not a bad gig, is it. I would love to
see more of Marx touch into football in space?

Speaker 4 (01:25:47):
Well, I mean in another guy that kind of comes
to mind here is speaking of why there was belief
in Marx is who did he play for last year?
Played for Lincoln Riley, who had also worked with Lincoln
Ryley in the past. A guy that's currently on the
physically unable to perform list? Joe Mixon and what did
you use him for? And and the other thing with

(01:26:09):
Riley is, you know people think you know air raid
all of that kind of stuff. Oh, they don't really
know how to run the football true air raid. You
want to be able to run the football.

Speaker 1 (01:26:18):
It's a flat out fake news and a lie and
lazy narrative and lazy analysis when you say that Leech
and Kiffin and Lincoln Riley, that's what the spread offense.
Matter of fact, they spread you out to be able
to run it on a five on five and then
they're just playing it. They aunt it's a numbers game. Oh,
they're going to bring a guy in because you've got

(01:26:39):
six on five. They're gonna throw it. You keep a
guy out there over the slot, we're gonna run it.
Some of the best running teams you will ever see
in college are teams that spread it out and run it. Hell,
you saw what they all missed it at the LSU
last week. Spread them out and you can still run it.
They go ahead, ask them. They're not going to tell you.

(01:27:00):
Arkising doesn't want to throw it all the time. Now,
this is the nature of a former quarterback, say, man,
I love it. We all just like a defense. I've
got to keep the score low, which is not gonna
win games right right, You have to mean over the consistent. Now,
you'll win some games without running it great all the time,
but the majority of it, if you run it great,
most of the time and throw it great. Some of
the time you're gonna win more than if you throw
it great a lot, but you can't run it for squad.

(01:27:22):
Eventually defenses will catch up to that and they'll they'll
find a way to stop you. So and and you're
preaching finesse while they look finesse in a spread just
because formationally, I can tell you I've had hours worth
of conversations Mike Mike Leach wanted to run. If you've
run seventy five steps, he'd love to run it thirty
five forty times. Now, if it's fourth and five or lessons,

(01:27:44):
we're running forty or either forty fifty, he's going for
it and he's probably gonna throw it. But they have
no problem with spreading you out on third and eight
and running it and counting numbers and thinking they're getting
a first down. So that's a misconception of the spread
offense that those guys just want to throw it. No,
they want to run it. But you also have to
practice to run it as well. You can't just get

(01:28:04):
out today. We'll run it on Saturdays because you're not
gonna be good at You have to execute. But you
also want to make sure the five guys up front
and the spread offense. No, we don't want to teach finesse.
We want to be a matter of fact, I'm asking
you guys to be more physical because we don't have
You don't have help from a tight end or a
back or chipping back or whatever. So you're just counting
numbers and if if it's a run friendly box, hand

(01:28:24):
it off and they a lot of home runs hit
from the spread in the run game.

Speaker 4 (01:28:28):
I missed that guy. I miss I miss him so much.
Every time I drink a cup of coffee, I always
think of that interview. You know, how do you take
your coffee? Well, coffee itself is pretty awful, so it
really doesn't matter what you put in there. You're just
kind of masking it at a certain point. So just
gut it and drink it. College football and sports need
Mike Leach. Yeah, and these times more than ever, you

(01:28:51):
need that guy. No, no, oh, dude, would he have
some fun things to say.

Speaker 1 (01:28:54):
They'd ask him a football question, He'd all he'd be
going in on ice. He would and and he'd and
he and he'd break down, and by the time he
was done, he'd be about about an eighth minute answer
on the radio. He'd clips footage. You see, this is
how we we need our defense to play. I've been
telling Alex for the longest time. This is what we

(01:29:15):
need to be. Bradridge is looking up like I gotta
tackle that guy in the open street like the ice
guy does. But that would be Leech and you wouldn't
be mad at him. You'd be like, damn, the guy
makes sense if we could tackle like those guys. Can't
tell you about him? Who caught a fish? Yeah, he's what.
He is as missed as anybody that's not around when
it comes to sports. We can't because you were you

(01:29:38):
you couldn't wait to hear Mike. So I love him.

Speaker 4 (01:29:44):
I missing bad my uncle when he first got to Tech.
My uncle was on the tech beat there for the
Lublick Avalanche Journal. And you know how every single week
coaches will do the the conference calls and you know,
next up Texas Tech Tech coach and somebody asked him
a question and he's, yeah, you know, Oklahoma States. Can
you give me a second please? Yeah, I'll have a.

Speaker 1 (01:30:03):
Number four large front and diet coke please. He's waiting.
He was put on hold. Trying to get his order in.
He just get his order at sutrip, dude, and his
timing was impeccable, impeccable. So yeah, it's it's uh, I
miss Michael now. And then another buddy of mine where
you know, he wakes up the next morning, call at

(01:30:24):
three h nine in the morning, and then he's like voicemail,
it's Mike Leach, Mike Leach returning your call. It's like
I've told you the world was asleep. My brother and
him been best friends forever, went to college together, my
brother and him, and you know, Mike, if you call
Mike at eight in the morning, you're not getting him.
He's walking riding his bike to If you call Mike
at eight o'clock at night, you're probably not gonna get him.

(01:30:46):
Call Mike at two thirty am, you're gonna get him,
damn right. You are wide awake too. That's the way.
If I always said, if I need to meet, if
I need an answer right now, I'll just pick up.
I'll wake up, set my alarm for about two thirty
and I'll call Mike no matter where he's at. Then
he'll answer. Yeah. Other than that, you leave the message,
you'll get back to the end of day or a
couple of hours or the next day. Call him at
two thirty in the morning. You'll look at oh pick

(01:31:07):
about that. Yep, that's it missing, No question. Didn't know
him as personally as you did, but you know, I
think like most of us got to feel like we did.
I was just about to say, even though you knew
people know him personally, yeah, you might make you feel
like everybody. That's a good That's a great trait to have.
Got to meet him.

Speaker 4 (01:31:23):
One time he was talking about seeing some top secret
stuff and I was just like, oh, man, I don't
even know if I can listen to this.

Speaker 1 (01:31:30):
I don't Mike. I think might just by association. I
might need to watch over my shoulder. Mike's the guy
that if we had a zombie apocalypse, Mike would talk
the zombies into going back home. They'd look at him
after all the verbis, and I was like, Okay, we're
not invading this place to even Yeah, the aliens show
up here, do we send out? And you send him out?
They'd be like, Hey, on second thought, maybe Earth's not
for us. Okay. They'd hung him and say, you know what,

(01:31:52):
we like you man, we're gonna stay around, come with us, right,
come and fix our people. But you know, yeah, that
doesn't sound like a bad idea. But you they would say,
this guy's way too smart for us.

Speaker 8 (01:32:02):
Let's leave.

Speaker 1 (01:32:02):
The Earth's not our part. Let's go somewhere else. That's
exactly what they do. You like, Mike save the world. Yeah,
there you go, put them on our side. Who was
the thing? Mike Leach not like him? I don't know anybody.
If you don't, it says more about you than it
says about him. Good. Uh, guys, we're going on We're

(01:32:25):
not going on year three? Are we?

Speaker 6 (01:32:27):
Are?

Speaker 2 (01:32:27):
We?

Speaker 1 (01:32:27):
Are we going on year three?

Speaker 8 (01:32:29):
I know?

Speaker 1 (01:32:29):
I know it was right around Christmas? Yeah, no, it
was later in the fall. It's pushing towards Christmas. But
are we going on your two or three?

Speaker 6 (01:32:34):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (01:32:35):
Year three? This is two this Dember December twelfth, twenty
twenty two.

Speaker 1 (01:32:39):
I cannot believe that it's terrible time flies man does
in this case, it was not when you're having fun,
because that happened. I won't forget the day, and I
can't believe it happened still to this day. Swing your sword.
You definitely did.

Speaker 8 (01:32:52):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (01:32:52):
Speaking of the Texans. If this happens, it can't get
any worse. We'll discuss Sean Salisbury show here on a
throw back Thursday Sports Talk seven to ninety. But let
me hit you with a Cougar minute brought to you
by Wrangler. We all love Wrangler, right, you know the jeans,
looking good, feeling good, all of those things. Well uahe
quarterback Connor Wegman starting his fifth game as the team

(01:33:13):
starting quarterbacks since coming over from Texas A and M
the softseason, and Wegman has yet to throw for over
three hundred yards in a game this year. It's not
gonna be an easy task this week because the Texas
Tech Red Raider defense holding quarterbacks to just over one
hundred and eighty two yards a game through the air.
Wegman at times, though, has relied on his feet this season.

(01:33:34):
He ran for eighty three yards and the Kugs win
a few weeks back over Colorado at td ECU Stadium,
and speaking to td ECU Stadium, this weekend, it's gonna
be the Kougs and Red Raiders Saturday night kickoff at
six o'clock. There in third ward coverage is gonna get
started Saturday at five o'clock over on KPRC nine to fifty.

(01:33:54):
It's been another Cougar Minute, brought to you by Wrangler.

Speaker 5 (01:33:59):
Salisbury Show continues on Sports Talk seven ninety home for
your home teams.

Speaker 1 (01:34:09):
It's one of the best classy.

Speaker 4 (01:34:12):
Yeah, like I said, it is Sean Salisbury Show, Sports
Talk seven ninety. You know, other than like when I'm
acting out monologues, which I mean that wouldn't really be
a monologue.

Speaker 1 (01:34:20):
It was just a video that made its way out
there a few years ago.

Speaker 4 (01:34:23):
And you found out the no spin guy, Well sometimes
he runs a little hot. But Texan's gonna get back
on the practice field today to get ready for the Ravens.
On Sunday, the Guardians padres Yankees. I'll take game two
of their wildcard series, and the Dodgers beat the Reds
to move on to Divisional round. Told you about you
of h and Texas Tech. Saturday night, TDCU Stadium covered

(01:34:45):
starts five o'clock over on KPRC nine to fifty. All right, Sean,
So I've had some hot takes before about the Astros.
Remember back in July where it was you get swept
in this series against the Mariners. You're not winning Division
and you're not even making the playoffs. Well, they took
one out of three in that one, and I don't
know if I had a reprisal of it before the

(01:35:06):
last series, but I mean ended up being somewhat true
because Lee didn't take care of business there and you
didn't win. I'm prepared to do that with the Texans.
Go ahead, they don't win this week, you're not making
the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (01:35:19):
Oh, I would think that that's I would bet on
your side of that.

Speaker 4 (01:35:23):
You follow one in four with that record, with that
schedule you still have coming up. Even if you get
a team or two along the way, it's not gonna
be enough that gets you to seven to eight wins.

Speaker 1 (01:35:33):
I think it's already in danger because they're not playing
well enough for you to say this one in three
is an aberration. Offensively, the fortunate thing is the defense
is doing more than pulling their weight, and with the
strong defense, you will be in every game because as
long as they continue to play for the most part,
they've got some a few things they got to sew

(01:35:54):
up a little bit, but playing really good football. But
now they lose. Now they're not going to the playoffs.

Speaker 4 (01:35:58):
Because it's exactly what we talked about earlier. And I
know some people, oh, trap game. How can it be
a trap game when you're going to Baltimore a place
you've never won? And I hate that phrase, dude, I
get it, but I mean it is also it fits
here because it would be human nature to think, no,
Lamar Jackson, Cooper Rush. Didn't we see that guy last Monday,
you know, last year on Monday Night football and he

(01:36:19):
had nothing against us?

Speaker 1 (01:36:20):
The hell's he going to have this time? Right? All
that coaches, that's why the.

Speaker 4 (01:36:24):
Better situation with better players, Yes, he can beat you.

Speaker 1 (01:36:28):
But that just answered the question. Right. We say human
nature creeps in you know who, It doesn't creep into
really good teams they fight against and say no, no, no,
you don't get beat by Carolina Panthers coming out of
a bye week and they can't beat any You just
don't do that, now, I understand. Listen, There's a reason
why teams like Cleveland can beat Green Bay on one

(01:36:48):
of those days when you're playing good and you hang
around in a game and it comes down to a
field goal at the end, and your defense is playing
really well and you win what thirteen to ten? Right,
you find because you're hanging around the fourth court. Now
it just takes one play or one mistake by them,
and you're in it. Two and a half touchdowns. You're
not overcoming Green Bay. So defense keeps in it. And

(01:37:09):
so you say, well, now we got a chance because
well we're hanging around, but you can't live there, and
you're one hundred percent correct about it creeping in. But
I know this, most of the time, really good teams
are really good because they don't let it, at least
the whole team. They may for a quarter, but they

(01:37:29):
adjusted it. Now we'll go'll find out, and it can
happen every one The Green Bay Packers lose to Cleveland
Brown exactly because they're pros. No doubt. It happens every years.
Matter of fact, most teams go through it at some
point during the year where you're like, what.

Speaker 4 (01:37:43):
And I'm sure there's even people on Baltimore Sports Leader
they shouldn't know as much about the Texans as we
know about the Texans, and I don't know as much
about the Ravens they know about the Ravens.

Speaker 1 (01:37:51):
But I guarantee you the talk up there is this
team's offense is terrible, even without Lamar, you have a
chance to win this game. I guarantee you that's been
of course it is, and it should be. But you
still got to put the time in and the preparation
and got to play. Because, as I've said, and I'll
say it again, the difference between the Buffalo Bills and
the Saints. Good quarterback play two or three other players

(01:38:16):
and about it eight plays a game.

Speaker 4 (01:38:18):
That's usually the difference. There's about a couple of guys
on the Saints that you would say, I mean, even
you know, James Cook, you'd have to you know, hey,
we got a chance to get.

Speaker 1 (01:38:26):
Alvin Kamara, all right, yeah right. Other than that though,
but and then you got to execute it to stay
in it. But then the pressure to play perfect all
the time when you're playing against the team that's superior
to you becomes that's a lot a big burden to beer.
But it happens every year with multiple teams. How did
we lose that game? And you just got to guard

(01:38:47):
against the trap. I hate it because you only get
seventeen of them, and we're like that trap game keeps
you out of the playoffs. If you're not if you
if you don't approach it right. So because you got
a good team sounds bad team sounds between two good teams.
It's like, man, I'm starting to think about the other one.
And then just when you think about it, you're in
the fourth quarter of the game that you're supposed to win, Like, uh,
trap game is going to cost us? Yeah, they lose

(01:39:08):
this game, They're not making the playoffs. In my opinion,
it will validate what we think about them. Offensively, it
will have met they didn't play well. It won't even
validate it for us. It's going to validate it for
the guys in that locker room. Maybe we're not as
good as we thought we were. Well, they got a lot,
they got a taste of reality last year, and I mean,
at least throughout the first few weeks. It's like, did

(01:39:28):
you really learn from it or did you just tell
yourself you learned from it? Because there's two differences with
what you've seen. If they were playing the Rams or
Buffalo this week, what would you say.

Speaker 4 (01:39:36):
They're playing on the road, Yeah, I mean the Rams
since you already played double digit favorite the Rams, I
think would be about six and a half.

Speaker 1 (01:39:46):
Buffalo. Yeah, you're playing them up in Buffalo. Points or something. Yeah,
nine and a half. Nine and a half. So it's
that's so you know what and here and if you're
a Texan hearing how people are feeling about you right now,
we talked about Baltimore's pride and dignity and the way
they're playing and to fix it. It's the same thing here.
If you're an offense, when do you say enough's enough?
The way we played in the fourth quarter and late

(01:40:07):
in the game is how we got to apply it,
not to just to Tennessee, but to Baltimore into Buffalo
and the other teams are going to play. But if
you're thinking about Seattle, you will get beat here.

Speaker 4 (01:40:17):
And it's but it's not only that, it's also I
mean it comes back to the offense yet again, where
you know people are the defense, you can lament the defense.
How can you give up that last drive to Baker
Mayfield and the Bucks?

Speaker 1 (01:40:29):
Oh, I don't know.

Speaker 4 (01:40:30):
Why don't you go look at the you know, the
number of plays they were in as compared to you.

Speaker 1 (01:40:34):
Maybe just maybe you had them out there too long.
I don't know. I'm just taking a guess. You're just
looking at the numbers. Well, I can also tell you
this When people say, well, how do you give it
up to Baker Mayfield, Well, the fact that Baker Mayfield
was the best quarterback in the game, that's how. And
Baker Mayfield's been one of the top three or four
players at his position numbers wise. And you know when

(01:40:54):
oh Tom leaves, what's going to happen. Well, they're doing
pretty well. I mean not win of super Bowls, but
they're hanging around. And then guy's accountable even said last
week I'd let my team down. I got to play better.
It's my fault. And he gets a erradic at times.
But Baker Mayfield can play and help. When he got
the ball, I expected him to go down and play
and score just because there's a different energy about him. Man,

(01:41:15):
he just plays and he's really elevated his place. So
when I hear people say it, how have you watched
him play the last two years? That's how. And you
could look at Detroit. They got their ass handed to
him in the first game and embarrass himself, and everybody
was talking about him the last two games. Now what
everybody's saying, Oh, we might have ourselves a super Bowl
threat in the NFC again, Right, So Texans have a

(01:41:37):
real good chance of a feel good game, but also
a chance to go win a game handily if their
offense can match their defensive performance. And we haven't seen
it yet for four quarters. You hope that it's.

Speaker 4 (01:41:50):
Tired of saying it too well, I mean, and I
mean you're not wrong, because that is that has been
the case, at least for the first four weeks of
the season, even last week too. I mean, where you
look like a team that for the first few quarters
you're like, that team's better over there. Then they're winning
this game right now. But then it was the late
in the third fourth quarter where you're like, okay, yeah,
you're actually moving the ball. Oh, you're putting together some drives. Okay, hey,

(01:42:14):
maybe we can believe in you a little bit, reinforce.

Speaker 1 (01:42:16):
That good feeling heading in because you're the last thing
you remember is how you played in that game, and
that's always a good feeling.

Speaker 4 (01:42:22):
Yeah, it's much better to learn after a win that
it is to learn the hard lessons after a loss,
no doubt. All Right, let's get into another sport that's
a new frontier could be reached, and some people might
lament it's the end of times they don't care. We'll
discuss it is the Sean Salisbury Show, Sports Talk seven
to ninety. But first, Kobe Stevens Apparel, Kobe Stevens dot Com.

(01:42:47):
Those are the names that you need to know, at
least the name and the site when it comes to polos,
t shirts, hats, shorts, performance hoodies, fishing shirts, ladies and
youth options, all of those right there Kobe Stevens dot Com.
As a matter of fact, my good buddy Kobe was
just out at a golf tournament at Northgate Country Club.

(01:43:07):
It was the swing for the Sunshine Kids. The special
guests there are good buddy Mattress, Mac, Jim Macnveiale. He's
out there and Kobe's got a shirt on the website.
Don't mess with Mac. It's that Astros blue and orange,
and he's got it up there and he's got a
picture with Mac holding up the shirt.

Speaker 1 (01:43:24):
Ma's got a huge smile on his face.

Speaker 4 (01:43:26):
And you know what, you buy that shirt, you put
it on, you'll feel that material and you'll say, man,
I get it. I understand why Mack felt that way
with that shirt. And that's all right there. Kobe Stevens
dot com speaking of you know, tournaments like Swing for
the Sunshine Kids.

Speaker 1 (01:43:39):
That's what Kobe and the crew do. They're out in
the community all the time.

Speaker 4 (01:43:43):
They are out at tournaments, and you feel like you're
out there swinging clubs for a good cause. Well, you
also have a chance to be able to see that
tent right there. Go in and buy a couple of
those shirts, and you feel even better about the way
that you're gonna look on the course and off the
course too, because you know there's dinner and there's everything
else after that, and you want to be looking good
when you show up to it wearing Kobe Stevens apparel.

(01:44:05):
College football season, you got the purple and gold, you
got the maroon and white, you got the burn orange
and white. You got that cougar red and white polo.
Up on the site right now. If you're heading to
a game anytime soon, show up in style, Kobe Stevens
dot Com. It's Kobe Stevens dot Com, Kobe Stevens Apparel,
Koby Stephens dot Com, Coby Stevens with a VS at
the end, it's Kobe Stevens dot Com.

Speaker 6 (01:44:28):
Live out there.

Speaker 3 (01:44:29):
But the Shawn Salisbury Show continued.

Speaker 4 (01:44:33):
Dodgers beat the Reds to end their season and move
on to the divisional round. Someone three two, one, two
five seven ninety is the number and Sean money and
college sports. I mean mostly a lot of it is
college football. You know, we all know how the hierarchy goes.
It's college football, it's men's basketball, it's everything else. I mean,
that's that's really what your moneymakers are on your campuses.

(01:44:55):
There's a reason why even with some of the other sports. Oh, hey,
you know this, this university is really good at this.
How are they at football?

Speaker 8 (01:45:01):
Now?

Speaker 1 (01:45:02):
They're not very good.

Speaker 4 (01:45:03):
There's your answer right there, because you want to find
every single way to have your team playing in these
major games. And I mean you've even heard stories before
of university presidents. Man, you guys have a really tough schedule.
I know I made it. Why did I make it? Because? Yeah,
I want to play against Texas, I want to play
against Ohio State. I want to play against Oregon, and

(01:45:23):
I want people watching that game. And then the commercial
for our school comes on and somebody says, hey, have
you thought about that school?

Speaker 1 (01:45:29):
I mean, how many times is a kid I.

Speaker 4 (01:45:32):
Can remember it exactly like it was yesterday and you know,
when it came time to apply for schools, have you
thought about applying there? Oh no, no, I haven't. Commercial
comes on, yeah, it all, it all happens.

Speaker 1 (01:45:42):
Yeah. Sure.

Speaker 4 (01:45:43):
So there's a report out I believe ESPN was the
first one to have it that the Big ten is
discussing a two billion dollar private capital deal that would
bring an influx of money into their conference, which the
Big Ten is the biggest earner of all of them.
They were the one that started the boutique network. They
were the ones that with their TV deals their payouts unbelievable.

(01:46:06):
And I mean that's a huge reason why the pac
twelve is now dead is because they went to USC, UCLA,
Washington and Oregon and said, you know, you guys don't
really look like you have much fun out there. Why
don't you have more fun with us? I mean, we'd
love to get LA, we'd love to get the Pacific Northwest.
So come join us, and our conference is going to
pay you more money.

Speaker 1 (01:46:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:46:25):
And that's the biggest one right there is you want
to know how this is all going to go? Hey, no, no, no,
We're committed to the Big twelve.

Speaker 1 (01:46:31):
We're great.

Speaker 4 (01:46:32):
Yeah, but the SEC is calling, you know, mister or
missus president. Oh, oh they are. Yeah, I'll talk to
Greg Sanki for sure.

Speaker 1 (01:46:40):
So what's the point.

Speaker 4 (01:46:41):
The point is they're not going to be the only ones.
Nor Marc is going to do this. Guarantee you. Greg
Sanki has already has already had conversations with people about, oh,
you want to be a big part of the SEC.
Well guess what you can be the SEC.

Speaker 1 (01:46:56):
Well, when one does it, it's all all. They're making
all that too. We got to do the same thing.
Oh yeah, it'll be it's copycat league, copycat. When we
talk about all sports, all you copy the winners. Oh
they made more money. How do we do that? They'll
find a way. Here's what they already don't. If they
already don't have a way, well.

Speaker 4 (01:47:13):
I mean, and I say it all the time about
people spending other people's money. Oh, of course you have
the money to be able to keep baseball and softball
and track around. A lot of them now will show
you their balance and their books and say you show
me how, seriously, you show me how. And then it
comes down to like last year, Gordy brought up this
point when we were talking about coaches. It was the

(01:47:33):
first time I think ever that not a single coach
in the SEC was fired. Why because you had where
probably you've got some boosters coming to a university president
and or an ad saying, you know what, this just
isn't working out, get rid of this guy. And they
look at him and say, you got sixty million dollars
to do it, because we don't.

Speaker 1 (01:47:50):
We're not doing it right. Sorry. Grin and Barrett support
him and hope he turns it around. Buyouts'll I'll buy
you some time, buddy, and they will, I mean, which
which amazes me how even though they were struggling that
they were willing to part with what seventy five million
dollars with the Jimbo after the country, You know what
I'm saying. A lot of that was on him. Yeah,

(01:48:10):
oh there's no doubt. But point is is he still
got paid and you still had to part with it
even though they got a lot of money. You can
have me when I hear people say, well they can
write the check. They got big boosters, seventy five or
whatever it was, whatever the whatever it ended up being,
was left on his contract. It was obviously high eight
figures was it's it's still that kind of money and

(01:48:30):
it cuts in.

Speaker 4 (01:48:31):
There's power to being liked, and he was not liked
because for him, it's more or less they I'm a
football coach. Like he'll do the glad handing, he'll do
all of that. But he didn't really put on a
shoal for him. No, no, not even close.

Speaker 1 (01:48:44):
And he's also Jimbo is a lot of respect for
him and has been a hell of coach. Jimbo is
here's everything, rabbit or to Jimbo's response is to fight
back always. Jimbo doesn't know how to. Hey, man, not
that big of a letter. Roll. Jimbo's not a letter
roll off my shoulders. Guy.

Speaker 4 (01:49:05):
One of my favorites was the spring before when Saban
said what he said about Texas A and M, and
then Jimbo has the press conference the following day. Then
let's fast forward to that SEC media days and somebody
asked Jimbo about it. He goes, yeah, I hate that
that got out. You threw a press conference, man, you
throw a press conference to shine a light on it,
so you're the one who let it get out.

Speaker 1 (01:49:26):
Well, that's my favorite thing, man, I hate that I
got out well it was public.

Speaker 4 (01:49:31):
What you guys are creating a distraction. No, you're letting
it bother you. There's two major differences of all the coaches.
He is a top five over the last I don't care,
decade whatever it is of a guy who you can
get under his skin easy. And I quite think his
emotions cost him at Texas A and M and another fight.

(01:49:53):
I do good coach. The guy knows football. I mean,
let's make no mistake about it. Guys knows what he's doing.
But sometime you know, what kind of leader is he?
What's this? What's that? X's and o's weren't the problem.
But I think honestly some guys can do all that
and still it doesn't affect him.

Speaker 1 (01:50:09):
It drives him. I think, deep down, I actually think,
deep down what Nick and you know, when him and
Nick had their little difference of opinion and they've been
you know, they were on the same staff here. I
actually think deep down that that probably festered with him
and may still to this day bother him. I don't
think that. I don't think that Jimbo Fisher gets over

(01:50:29):
criticism very quickly. And if you want to know how
the criticism hit all you got to do is bring
it up to him. He'll respond.

Speaker 4 (01:50:36):
I remember one of those Chicken and green bead circuits
where you know, Jimbo's answering questions and he said something
about i'll tell you what we're gonna kick Nick Saban's
ass in Alabama, and then it got back to Nick
and Nick first goes he's saying in golf.

Speaker 1 (01:50:49):
Classic classic and you know what else? And that's another one. Well,
I don't know how it got out. You how you
said it? Yeah, you're saying, any microphone that's in front,
he is a live microphone. Any room. Somehow it's gonna
get out. You're on your little joke. You don't want
it to get out. Don't say it selling your program.
Somebody there is gonna say, man, they're gonna love it.
They may have loved it. Say hey here, Jimbo's at

(01:51:11):
boom there and before you know, oh, he got it back.
Yeah you mean on a golf course. I mean, uh.
The one thing about it it may bother Nick, but
Nick utilized it to his advantage as opposed to let
an infester and bother him. I'll tell you else. Another
guy that does bother a little bit that he wears
it and he's a hell of a coach. Is that
Brian Kelly gets bothered by that stuff. He's he the

(01:51:31):
emotion gets in the way of some decision making at times,
it just does, and that's why he goes he does.
It's an advance. Lane knows, Oh, dude, do you leave
that door open? I am going to I see blood
in the water. This is easy and Lane can be
doing it with the smallest face, but he knows he
will get a reaction and it does affect some of

(01:51:53):
their decisions during a game. They're thinking about it when
and Lane knows, standing over on the other side, Oh,
I got them right where I want him. And he's
brilliant at it. He's brilliant. He is Spurrier was brilliant
at it. So that guy, and I honestly think that
sometimes you say, well, it's not that big a deal.

(01:52:14):
I do think there are some coaches that emotion and
rabbit ears get in between them and some decisions they
need to make that should be done. And there is
no doubt in my mind that the emotion at Jimbo
Fisher was part of the reason it cost him his gig.
It sure wasn't recruiting it. Heure wasn't money. It sure
wasn't having people back yet that it sure wasn't the program.

(01:52:36):
What's that that and losses? Well, the point is is
that that's the thing, is that whatever it was that
got him, they and their offense was for a guy
who's an offensive coach, they were not good offensively for
I mean, so it just and every year we're saying, okay,
is this the year? Is this year? And you'd flirt
with it, and they've in the past, they've always had
this where they'd start fast or something and even under someone,

(01:52:57):
they just fizzle out physically in the you know, their
finesse didn't match the SEC's physicalities. It went on, and
Jimballex said, no doubt the guy coach offense. But I
do think that in the middle of making those decisions
and those losses and they fester and you can't let
go and Jimbo is not good at letting go of
some of those things.

Speaker 4 (01:53:16):
Usually not all right, people are telling me this is
cool again, Well, I'm all for it.

Speaker 1 (01:53:22):
We'll discuss here.

Speaker 4 (01:53:23):
Sewn Salisbury show on a throwback Thursday Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (01:53:28):
Why You're back. This is the Sean Salisbury Show, get
back at it, and the numbers will back us up. Really, yeah,
it is. Well, we've liked baseball. I've always thought it
was cool. So I don't like some of the gimmicks,
but I've always thought baseball was cool, one of my favorites.

Speaker 4 (01:53:44):
So what's the deal now? What makes it cool twofold?
And what are the ways that we can tell that
something is cool again? People watching it either in person
or on TV. And ratings across baseball jumped as much
as thirty four percent last year. Fox ratings were up
nine percent, FS one ten percent, ESPN twenty one, TBS

(01:54:05):
twenty nine, MLB Network thirteen. I don't even know what
NHK is, but MLB TV was thirty four percent. That's
the streaming package they have. And in attendance across the
league jumping up too. The Mets had over ten thousand
more fans at their games this year, the Tigers almost
six thousand more, the Giants, and you ask where the Astros.

(01:54:27):
The Astros, if I'm not mistaken, had less fans at
their games this year than they had in the past.
And I'm sure a big part of that is kind
of to what I feel like is the overarching of
all of this. Baseball's got stars, and baseball finally realized
a few years ago, Hey, promote your stars. Don't alienate
sho he Otani. Don't alienate Aaron Judge or anybody like that.

(01:54:51):
Showcase them run your commercials with Hey, there's another commercial
they'reon judging it. Hey shoe he Atani again, Yeah, that's right,
that guy's there, Mike Trout, Yeah, I know about that guy.

Speaker 1 (01:55:00):
Yeah, and we still never see Trout doing anything, I
mean in commercials. You know.

Speaker 4 (01:55:05):
Well, unfortunately he did last Friday night against the Astros.
And hence why I didn't mean on the field, I
said commercials wise. Oh yeah, yeah, for a guy who's
been as dominant a player in the last decade plus
that we said that team not yeah, not named show
Hey o Tani. The guy gets no national commercial love
for the most part. Speaking crazy speaking of the Angels.

(01:55:28):
So you know how like teams will, hey, thanks so
much for everything. So for Ron Washington, you know how
he had his health scare earlier this year and he
had to step away. So their graphic they had thank
you Ron Washington, and it looked like he's floating in
the in the clouds, so people have to immediately be like,
oh my god, did he pass right?

Speaker 1 (01:55:46):
Yeah, no, Ron's okay. Hopefully he's gonna get healthy and
everything's fine. But if health is there, Ron Washington will
be on a major league staff. There's there's no doubt
about it. Love wash, but yeah, it's to promote your stars.
As a novel concept, it is, and we've got some
good ones too. And you know, listen, when the Yankees

(01:56:07):
and the Dodgers and the Red Sox and the Phillies
I hate to say it, are hovering around major League Baseball,
ratings are going to go up because well, they shove
it down our throat. They just do and that's not
going to change. So if it's cool again, and I
try not to let baseball ratings affect how cool baseball is,

(01:56:27):
but when you got guys like I'm sure the ratings
are up watching Seattle games too because of the cal
Raley run, you know. And it's not just stars, but
how those stars perform. And every single guy you mentioned
Otani judge monumental seasons this year. You take a look
at cal raw teams that have won this year, look

(01:56:48):
at Schwarber season, they've all had their stars played big
time baseball and and not go into the tank unfortunately,
have as many injuries this one have. And Schooble pitches
you want to watch. He's lights out. So yeah, man,
it's it's been. It's been fun to watch. And I
love postseason baseball. I think the drama postseason baseball outside
of hockey is as fun for me there is in

(01:57:10):
the postseason. It's the best postseason. There's no doubt. I
go hockey first, baseball second because just the drama that
leads up. And look at the Red Sox, I mean
the Red Sox Yankees game yesterday, A base running gaff
for one and then Chisholm, you know, Chisholm doing his thing,
and you got the game boom and you end up
getting beat and then watching you know, guys like Mason

(01:57:33):
Miller one oh four point five and then throwing eighty
nine mile on hour slide. I say it every day
when he's not dude, the guy is well. He's faced
eleven batters in two games. He struck out ten of
them and walked one and got pulled. I mean, dude,

(01:57:53):
I don't know. I was watching. I think it was Suzuki. Yesterday,
Miller throws it was like a buck three up. The
ball was into catcher's glove and his bat hadn't crossed
on plate yet. So baseball, we're seeing guys do pretty
phenomenal things, and that always keeps all right. Just when
when people that are watching other teams play that aren't

(01:58:15):
your team, Like if you're watching Seattle play because of
cal Ralegh, because you want to see the display he's
putting on. That's when you know it's taking another level
and those stars are doing and who doesn't When Mason
Miller walks out, Dude, if I got something else going,
I am stopping and I got to tune in to
see is a dude gonna type out at a buck five?

(01:58:36):
I mean you? Or is o Tani gonna do what
he did well, hits two home runs in the first one.
I mean, it's just it's it's been a it's been
a fun season to watch these great players play great.

Speaker 4 (01:58:46):
It has been You just wish that the Astros were part
of it. So when it was all said and done
and well by one game, they weren't, And that's just unfortunate,
all right. It's that time of the week, Our good
buddy Chris Gordy gonna hop in with us.

Speaker 1 (01:58:59):
Well, we got the gamut to run with Cory. We
can talk some textans and talk some college football anything
and Chuck Daddle from Chuck wins dot com. By the way,
Chuck is four weeks now, every single week he's given
you a winner. So if you're trying to make money,
tune in at nine point thirty listen. Doesn't matter what
the game is. And we all think that when you're
a gambler, bet the big games. Yeah, bet the smart

(01:59:21):
games now. And Chuck's been doing that. So four straight weeks,
four straight winners and just a little bit of a hit.
I think he likes a game that's not being played
on us soil. This week.

Speaker 4 (01:59:30):
See you listening to Sean Salisbury's show, two things happen.

Speaker 1 (01:59:34):
You get smarter and you make more money, and both
are a really good thing. And you can argue you're
listening to Jabart's there and there.

Speaker 4 (01:59:40):
You go, there you go, and we'll talk about them
a little bit later on too. As so we continue
here Sean Salisbury Show, Sports Talk seven.

Speaker 1 (01:59:47):
Hey guys, Country Boys roofing Country with the k Boys
with the Z take a little bit different direction. Today,
I get a message from John and he met this
in the in the the greatest within the greatest way
you could mean it, And I said, I'm going to
use that tomorrow for this commercial. We know about Country

(02:00:08):
Boys roofing. You know the one thousand dollars discount for
your roof at a time when storms hit and it's
you see what's going on in North Carolina. You see
the storm's hit and people will raise the roof. No
pun intended to charge you more. One thousand dollars discount.
You mentioned my name on the full roof one dollars
discount if you're a first responder, educator and military at

(02:00:30):
a time when you'd be very easy to say, oh,
we're gonna charge the double because the roof's got to
be fixed, right. You don't want to leak in. You
got to be safe, your family's got to be protected.
John Nightman and his team a phenomenal team and they
now have in house where they're the the in house
financing for you to help fix your roof. So his

(02:00:51):
team will go anywhere in Houston, no job too big
or small. All those things that you know, and they
do great work so yesterday now you would think about this.
A homeowner was diagnosed with cancer and John's team and
John went and put a whole new roof on for
him at no cost. Now, he said, well, if you
do that all the time, your business still got to run.

(02:01:12):
But when you're doing this and you know that somebody's
going through difficult time, and you say, you know what,
we don't need to make money on this one. We
need to give somebody who is battling a horrible, horrible disease,
and let's give them something to be smile about and
to be happy about and add a little hope to
it without hitting their wallet. Because you know what, I'm
quite sure that going through that is awfully costly as well,

(02:01:36):
not just financially, but the emotional strain that goes with it.
And John and his team put up a roof for
free for one of his customers that was diagnosed with cancer.
Those are the things that he's doing now. I know
he didn't want me to talk about that because he
doesn't like that I'm talking about it anyway. He'll have
to come in here and stop me from doing it.

(02:01:56):
But that's what you're getting. Quality work. And a guy
with a big heart. Quite frankly, even if you didn't
use him and you called him up for a consultation,
he's going to give you the honest stuff. It's Country
Boys Roofing. Well, I think you probably know what kind
of character they got and the quality of work matches. Awesome,
great team Country with a K, Boys with a Z.

Dan matthewsues, this is the Sewan Salisbury Show.

Speaker 4 (02:03:26):
Astro season, But Gordy's still on with us. You got
Texas in Florida this week that's gonna be here on
Sports Talk seven nine. You got the Texans and Baltimore
taking on the Ravens on Sunday, and the Astros off
season by the way too. You know, it's something that
I mentioned kind of been passing as soon as you
got in here. Little reno's happening over at dyke In Park.

(02:03:47):
I drove by the other day. They've got Union Station
completely covered with like scaffolding and all that kind of stuff.
So gonna have a new look dyke In Park next year.

Speaker 1 (02:03:57):
Maybe or do they? So you don't know what they're
putting in now.

Speaker 4 (02:03:59):
I just I just saw that it looked like they
were doing some sort of I don't know if like
maybe you know, refurbishing it or something like that, but
could be that.

Speaker 1 (02:04:06):
Did you call them renos? Renos? Is that what the
kids are saying? Renovations? Yeah? Do we always shorten and everything?
I think I just did. So you've started a trend. Yeah,
maybe I've been to some HGTV at a time or two. Yeah,
well house hunters at I got to come clean, dude.
I don't know if my man card's going, but I'm
constant on the fixer uppers and you go there and

(02:04:29):
see how they they turn sent me say, there's a
guy with his ex wife the el Musa's Yeah, there's
no way that can look good. And then when you're done,
you say, can I go buy that? I wish I
had that skill.

Speaker 4 (02:04:37):
So every single like one of one of it's either
like Tarik el Musa's current wife or his ex wife.
Every single one of their designs, it comes out and
I'm like, why do you have a design like it's
like a sushi restaurant, like it's Benny Hannah.

Speaker 7 (02:04:50):
Wow, I just something vague. I look at those those shows.
I'm a guy and I'm doing research. You know what
If I want to do to my head, that's it,
that's it.

Speaker 1 (02:04:58):
I'm taking woodworking. Let me build my own from a carpenter,
that's it.

Speaker 7 (02:05:02):
I'll tell you this before Chip and Joanna, I never
heard the word ship lap before.

Speaker 1 (02:05:06):
I don't know what that was. What is it? I
have no idea. You don't know what ship lap is?
Google it. It's like the design on the wall. Okay,
oh nice, Yeah, I think it would be the demo.
That's one thing. And I do I do watch their
shows and stuff. If you just said I'm in the backsplash.
I'm all in Gordia. I had to break down the backsplash.

Speaker 7 (02:05:24):
My question is, haven't they run out of houses in Waco?
I mean, like they've done. Every house in Waco has
been renovated.

Speaker 1 (02:05:31):
Well, yeah, I was gonna say, you would like to
renovate your house? I don't need it. They already got
me if they never sold them and they owned them
all themselves and they were renovate them. They own Wacom. Yeah,
already every house looked like a farmhouse. Now they all
look exactly the same.

Speaker 4 (02:05:44):
Yeah, well, what do you know is from Waco? Doctor
Pepper or Chip and Joan, Oh, Chip and Joanna. You
didn't even have to give me the the af fact,
no question about it.

Speaker 8 (02:05:54):
Oh.

Speaker 7 (02:05:54):
I need to give a shout out to I was watching.
I've watched a couple of Balor games this year. Our
guy Indy Caluson getting in there.

Speaker 1 (02:06:02):
Can't shock you that the guy is gonna be a
good player in the DNA and how the hardest pops
works and the expectations.

Speaker 4 (02:06:09):
I remember when that kid was in kindergarten and now
he's playing college football.

Speaker 1 (02:06:13):
How does that feeling? That feels amazing? Good? On and
D two.

Speaker 6 (02:06:17):
Man.

Speaker 1 (02:06:17):
That's right.

Speaker 4 (02:06:18):
Let's let's open there with some college football because you
were on Fine Bomb yesterday. Good time there. But I
know that you guys were talking Texas and Florida. Is
this you know we were talking Texans and Ravens earlier
with no Lamar Jackson trap game, Steve Starkesi and walking
into a trap with Florida.

Speaker 7 (02:06:35):
It's interesting the more I started breaking this game down, guys,
I didn't realize. I mean, look, Texas had the great
Week one test up at Ohio State, but the three
teams they played, the Cupcakes are bad. Like, go, look
at the three teams they played, Sam Houston, San Jose State,
like they're bad. So there, we don't know what this

(02:06:56):
Texas team is still at all.

Speaker 3 (02:06:58):
Like there is no.

Speaker 1 (02:06:59):
Gauge on how good that the defense looked great offensively.

Speaker 7 (02:07:03):
Okay, I mean I'm only judging based off of what
you did in Julian Sayin's first career start up at
Ohio State. I mean, you did great, but you know
it's like that's all I have to go on. These
last three games are nothing.

Speaker 1 (02:07:14):
So you know, the offense reminds me of a team
right here in town. NFL wise, Texans highly publicized and
we're kind of not that they're I mean, obviously CJ's
been doing but they're they're they're they're not hitting on
the offensive line, struggled, some lost four guys, quarterbacks not
playing as well. Mechanics are suffering a little bit. You're

(02:07:34):
you're just you're not as explosive. Your defense is really
good for the most you know, you're you're pretty physical
doing well. So there's the similarities. Well with that, you
think they're a national title contender when we get to November.

Speaker 7 (02:07:47):
Well, that's this weekend is gonna tell us a lot
because on the surface, you go, Florida stinks Texas should
go in there and win big. That's that's on the surface,
Like that's just I'm just glance at this game. That's
what the initial thought is. But then I start to
look at it and go Their backfield has not been
healthy yet. I just saw the injury report came out
last night.

Speaker 8 (02:08:05):
CJ.

Speaker 7 (02:08:06):
Baxter is doubtful, so he's not gonna go. Uh Quinterravian
Trey Wisner is questionable. He's been banged up all year.
So they haven't even had that consistent run game yet.
To go with Arch to get balance on offense. Florida's
got a good defense. For as bad as Florida is,
their defense is really good. And so I heard, uh,

(02:08:27):
what's the guy?

Speaker 1 (02:08:28):
Uh Uh.

Speaker 7 (02:08:29):
Lewis Riddick yesterday was saying, if I'm Florida watching film,
Arch cannot make he is not accurate on the run.
Like when he gets out of the pocket and he's
having to move, his accuracy drops like that, so that
he's like, I'm blitzing him like crazy. You're not getting
sacks just to make get him on the move, hit

(02:08:50):
him off so that accuracy drops because where he gets
in a rhythm is when he's in that pocket and
he's got that protection, and you know. So I found
that was pretty interesting. But uh, the part of this
too is DJ Lagway. They said it is finally healthy now.
Billionnapier said he had the best week of practice he's had.
This game means something to this kid was twenty twenty

(02:09:10):
three mister Texas football. He wanted like hell to play
this game last year in Austin, but he was banged up.
They held him out. He wants to the Longhorns didn't
even recruit him. He was mister Texas football. The Longhorns
weren't even on his radar, so he wants to send
a message, Hey Texas, bleep you.

Speaker 1 (02:09:26):
I'm gonna say it, but it matters to him because
he's such a quiet, good kid, you know. But there
you go to your one hundred percent correct anybody who's
been which you would consider or anybody would consider snubbed
if that's how you want it for a guy. If
you're the best player in you know, Texas and you're
not getting recruited by a team of Texas, what's going
on here? The yes, big Texas, big time. So with that,

(02:09:48):
who's who's the one loss team? You both can answer this,
the one loss team in the SEC? Who's got the
worst chances to make the playoff? I hate to say
about the worst chances? Yeahah l SU, that's where I
was gonna go. We got ls here Tennessee, Texas, and
who am I leaving out? Well, Georgia. I think Georgia's
got a favorabale schedule, and I'd throw Alabama in there too,

(02:10:13):
So you think Alabama's got a better chance to get
there than these.

Speaker 7 (02:10:18):
Next three weeks will tell us a lot about Alabama k.
Vanderbilt is a damn good team. It's in Tuscaloosa. That's
the problem. Kayln de Bor has not lost a home
game since he's been in Alabama. All his losses have
come on the road. So and ty Simson, by the way,
it's not throwing an interception. I had to go back
and look up. I was like, it was the last
Alabama quarterback to go four games into his career without
throwing an interception. Week A really frigging good too. It

(02:10:40):
was the last one. I mean, and he's you know,
became an NFL quarterback. So yeah, I mean this this
isn't the biggest college weekend, but Bamavandy is going to
tell us a lot about them, and Texas Florda is
going to tell us a lot about arts. The other
one I didn't mention with lagways they're getting. They had
a five star wide receiver Wilson. I think Dallas Wilson

(02:11:02):
says his name. He's been hurt since all of fall camping.
He's gonna make his season debut this week. He set
spring game records for them with receptions and receiving yards.
I gain it's a spring game, but the kid was
freaking electric right, and they're getting him back this week.
So again another guy texassessed.

Speaker 1 (02:11:19):
To war it tho a little dangerous for them.

Speaker 4 (02:11:21):
Well, and then to your point about LSU, I mean,
it's just the offensive line is not good.

Speaker 1 (02:11:25):
They showed you that last week. I mean, I know
that they're loose internet rumors, but you gotta believe nuss
Meyer's hurt, right, I mean that looks like his performance
says yes.

Speaker 7 (02:11:35):
I said, it's either it's either one you're hurt or
two you suck. I mean I pick one, you know,
and I choose not to believe you've regressed this poorly
that you're just now I've heard some things that you know, look,
we're living a day and age where mental health is
a big thing, and you know, he got engaged and
they life changes.

Speaker 1 (02:11:52):
And all that.

Speaker 7 (02:11:52):
But at the end of the day, football should be
your distraction from all that. Put all the put all
that stuff aside and let's go play ball. So again,
that's when when he comes out, immediately goes I'm not
going to answer any questions about my health. Okay, well
are you hurt or do you suck? Like that's it's
gotta be one of the other. Because you're not playing well.
You're overthrowing guys, underthrowing guys off target. Uh yeah, so

(02:12:17):
that's got to get fixed. But look, you guys know,
it's a week to week league in college football. You
can look like crap one week and look like a
world beater the next. So anybody who wants to we
we're but fans were such living the moment we go
you just lost it. You're so you're not doing anything right?

Speaker 1 (02:12:34):
Okay?

Speaker 7 (02:12:34):
Yeah, where were we on Ohio State about this time
last year? Nobody was hyping them up as the national champion.

Speaker 1 (02:12:40):
No, and remember after they got beat by Organ early
in the season, we're like, here we go, that's exactly right.
Is getting fired? Yea, Oh, he can't make it. He's
not gonna beat Then he's done well, a ring and
a and a pay raise and all that. Later, he's
doing pretty well. And you know what, you want to
solve a lot of the issues. If you're Texas, playlights

(02:13:00):
out this week. I know some will make the excuses
still float. Playlights out this week, and you'll start to
get a better feel about them because we're still waiting
to see it. It don't suck, but football's hard. Arches,
but the.

Speaker 7 (02:13:10):
First career sec start to I didn't realize that he's
made a handful of starts. They they said, though, of
one of the Texas guys I've talked to. So thank
god this is a day game and not a night game,
because can you imagine going in the swamp at night
Tom Petty's playing, the light show is going on. That'd
be a little bit tougher than an afternoon.

Speaker 1 (02:13:29):
Oh, there's no question you got time talks from Texans. Yeah,
all right, let's do it right here.

Speaker 4 (02:13:33):
Chris Gordy with us John Salisbury Show Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 5 (02:13:38):
Some more Sean Salisbury on Sports Talk seven ninety where
Astros and Rockets play and real Texans talk.

Speaker 4 (02:13:48):
Is that more in your mind messaging of don't take
this team lightly? We cannot take this team lightly.

Speaker 8 (02:13:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (02:13:54):
I mean my initial thought was as soon as I
heard Lamar may not go and it's gonna to be
Cooper Rush. I mean you immediately go, oh Texans, easy win,
easy win. That's where your mind immediately goes. But you know, look,
you gotta have the backups, always got to be prepared,

(02:14:14):
ready to go. And the minute you take a team
like that lightly the minute you can get killed. The
other part is Derek Henry has been a Texans killer
since he's been in the league, So you know, yeah,
backup quarterback may be in there, but again you take
him lightly. Derek Henry has a two hundred yard game
and you get you know, you're looking back and going,

(02:14:35):
oh man, how we lose that game? So because again
the Texas' biggest enemy right now is their offense. Like
that's it's still on their offense to execute. And so
regardless of who the hell plays quarterback for Baltimore, you
got to take care of your own house first.

Speaker 1 (02:14:50):
And you know, listening to Orlovsky, which you were playing
during a break, do you realize that the Baltimore Ravens
on first and second down are at the bottom of
the league in attempts in the run game, and when
they do run it, they're second or third in the
league when they do run it on first and second out.

(02:15:10):
So it would tell me with Lamar banged up and
a very very smart Todd Munkin is the offensive coordinator,
and knowing the history of Derrick Henry against the Texans
and that you know they some teams have been able
to run the ball on them a little bit this
year that Monkin goes into this game Lamar Jackson or not,

(02:15:32):
that that by the end of the game, that there's
going to need to be a plunge pool and a
cold pool for Derek Henry because he is going to
get worked. And you probably want to shorten the game
if you're them, just because you're waiting and hoping that
your defense that's banged up doesn't run into a good
Texans offense. That it's past time for them as well. Gordy.
So if I'm Monk and I don't think it takes

(02:15:53):
a genius to figure out, and what happens is you
start doing that big plays out of play action on
a man coverage gets you because just when you think
Derek Henry's got his twenty fifth carry in the first half,
they pull it out and hit you for a home
run you're gonna have to guard against. It's dangerous, but
it's also obviously without Lamar the Texans, it's it's a
lot less to cover. But I would imagine they're gonna

(02:16:14):
lean on Derrick Henry this week and give everything they
can and it and they're their pride and dignity. He's
probably coming into play too, because they're not used to
this and they're dogs at home.

Speaker 7 (02:16:22):
It's mind boggling that Derrick Henry doesn't even have a
twenty carry game yet this year, Like what are you doing?
Like that's I mean, I might explain why you're won
and three, like you know, it's.

Speaker 1 (02:16:33):
Like and didn't even one of the games run for
like a buck sixty sixteen seventeen eighteen carri one the.

Speaker 7 (02:16:38):
Close loss to Buffalo again, you know, no one's gonna
excuse that one fumble, but I mean, yeah, that's the
thing is he's at fumble itis, that three of them.
So uh but to me, that's the you know, for
the Texans to Miko as much as he's got to
be preaching, you know, whoever's a quarterback doesn't matter, take
care of business. Derrick Henry got to contain we've got

(02:16:59):
to slow him. I got to also be in the offense.
It's ears and going, guys, it's all you got.

Speaker 1 (02:17:05):
We got a score points because.

Speaker 7 (02:17:06):
Even if the defense does their job, we're a little
bit look up at that scoreboard and go.

Speaker 1 (02:17:11):
Texans lose seventeen to thirteen was because the thirteen to
ten and you still lost.

Speaker 4 (02:17:15):
Not just score points, but I mean, like keep your
defense off the field, man, Like stop getting in a
third and long and having to punt. Almost it's either
a you score and most of the time it's a
field goal or it's three and out. And I guess
what defense you'd you better have gotten your breath back
in you because you're going back out.

Speaker 1 (02:17:36):
You What have you seen from CJS sean and mechanics.
I see a guy that I saw a little bit
better last week of settling in, yet he still got hit.
I mean eight gap blitz gets right to him and
force him one. He's holding the ball too long on
place that you just can't make. I've seen him holds
ball too long, holds and I understand the hero centum,
especially when your offense is struggling. Quarterback mentality is, I'm

(02:17:56):
the best player on this offense. I got to get
this thing going. See hold a little long. But and
I understand the collateral damage of the hits he's taken
over the last you know, three years, and in particular
last year and this year of drop back. First guy's
not open and what happens hesitant and you stay your
head goes right to the line, The thing that stands

(02:18:16):
out for me in mechanically feet, getting your feet, set
your eyes up, that he's just missing simple throws and
a lot of that's I don't want robotic quarterback. I
want good mechanics a lot of that. The simple stuff
seems to be when he's not going good. That the
simple stuff that he'd make as a rookie he's not making.
And I think a lot of it. It's a simple word.

(02:18:37):
It's trust, trusting young guys to win trust and Nico
Collins winn and I like that they got him involved
quickly last week. So it's a mechanical thing for me,
not like, oh my gosh, we can't get it fixed,
but just a few mechanical flaws that are what he missed.
Is rookie year, he missed small. I've said this to
you Dan a couple week or two ago. His misses

(02:18:58):
have been big misses, and that tells me that there's
a mechanical issue with this thing. So you know, and
it doesn't take long to get back into it, but
they've got to sew it up. And I'm a little
concerned about what kind of different looks Baltimore, even with
the defense, is going to give them to force hits
and see how where he is mentally but a little
mechanical stuff and understandably so, he just looks a little

(02:19:19):
more frantic in the pocket as opposed to board, and
I like board quarterbacks in the pocket.

Speaker 7 (02:19:23):
You are fourth worst in the NFL and points scored
per game. The team, the teams you were down there with,
you're just You're just behind the New Orleans Saints, who
I mean, Spencer Radler is not exactly setting the world
on fire.

Speaker 1 (02:19:38):
In center zero and eleven. They should be playing on
Friday night offense. They're ahead of you, but behind you.

Speaker 7 (02:19:44):
The Cincinnati Bengals who lost Joe Burrow, Cleveland Browns already
making a quarterback change, and the Tennessee Titans, who are
just a mess with a rookie quarterback. Yeah, how are
you down there with them? That's embarrassing.

Speaker 1 (02:19:58):
And listen, I think that Nick Cayley has to do
a better job of helping. Listen. The player's got to
go do their thing, But the coordinator's job is when
things aren't doing this instead of expand and overbearing stuff
that says, sometimes you expand an offense by tightening it
up by not oh, let's add now, sometimes subtract equal addition,

(02:20:20):
and in this maybe you're at the point now. But
what it means you just give guys less to deal
with and execute what you do well and do it often,
so you know Nick Cayley has to put them, whether
it's protections and play calling, audibles, freedom at the line
of scrimmage, or the ball out quickly. We saw last
the touchdown, boom, get it out. Now there was a

(02:20:40):
blitz coming to the left. Boom CJ threw it. Beat
the blitz, get left. Those simple things that extend drives
and get you six yards, seven yards, and the big
plays will come after run after the catch. That's going
to have to happen or you're gonna be in trouble.
And it is. It's been quite frankly futrid watching them
play offense for the most part until they did it
against the team they quite frankly has no business playing

(02:21:02):
on Sundays right now, meaning the Tennessee Titans. But you
were still only up six nothing at the half. It
was two field goals, right it was. They played what
a quarter and like a quarter in a little.

Speaker 4 (02:21:11):
Bit about twenty minutes of decent foot there you go, yeah,
that's pretty much.

Speaker 1 (02:21:17):
Six. Yeah. Their their fourth quarter performance. They got in
the fourth quarter with a chance to still lose the
game and turnover and then you can possibly lose that game.
So they picked it up. So we'll go find out
in the next couple weeks. Was it Tennessee's just they're
not good or was it Oh, maybe we discovered something.
Simplify if you have to, but execute and little window dressing.

(02:21:39):
But the ball's got to come out because they're just
not good enough to block simple protections. And we saw
it again last week more than once, Tron, you're the man.
We appreciate it again.

Speaker 4 (02:21:50):
Next Thursday is even more college football talk about next Thursday.

Speaker 1 (02:21:54):
All right, it's that time of the week.

Speaker 4 (02:21:56):
Our good buddy, Chuck Ettle, he hops on with us,
and like we said, he makes you smarter, he makes
you money, both of those things.

Speaker 1 (02:22:03):
Right here, Shawn Salisbury Show.

Speaker 3 (02:22:05):
We're fat there The Shawn Salisbury Show continued.

Speaker 1 (02:22:10):
Numbers eight hundred eight zero eight three four eight one,
and here we are again. Man, it sounds to me
like undefeated on this show. My man, Chuck Well, Chuck
four weeks four winners. Last week Houston minus seven one
twenty six to zero to get all the Chuck's plays.
So he won again last week. Every week he's doing
it all the Chucks plays. All you have to do

(02:22:32):
is call one eight hundred eight zero eight thirty four
eighty one. That's one eight hundred eight zero eight thirty
four eighty one. I'm not quite sure how you're doing
this one man, other than well, that's why you're the expert,
and we have you on as opposed to somebody that
isn't the expert. So let's keep the streak alive and
tell me what you got on your mind heading into
this weekend.

Speaker 6 (02:22:51):
Yeah, I appreciate that. Let's keep things rolling. You know
that last Sunday the Houston was nice. We had a
monster day Sunday. We won every game to play Sunday.
So again, for your listeners, they could get tonight's play
that we're gonna go with. We have a big play
going tonight and the entire weekend. You get the play
tonight at for free one eight hundred eight zero eight

(02:23:11):
three four eight one one eight hundred eight zero eight
three four eight one. And if you're driving to the car,
you don't have time to write the number down. Simply
just go to Chuck Wins dot com and get the
number there. But what I what I'm looking to here
this week here is this, uh this Browns believe the
Browns Vikings game being played in London. Obviously, all the

(02:23:34):
big news is that Gabriel will be starting this game
replacing Flaco, and they had no choice in in this matter.
I feel, you know, Flaco would have had no chance
versus this game, in this game standing in the pocket,
versus this splitz happy Minisuta Vikings team. For the season,
Flacco's had two touchdowns, He's thrown six interceptions, so he's really,
you know, really created a bad you know for the

(02:23:55):
the an already subpower offense. So Gabriel does bring them
some more athleticism.

Speaker 1 (02:24:02):
He can move around a lot more.

Speaker 6 (02:24:04):
They're not going to ask him a lot, you know
from him, and he's just gonna have to manage the game,
move the change, tack the ball and then you know,
another few With Gabriel, he gets rid of the ball
quick and that's what this Cleveland team needs versus this
Fightings defense. Another bright spot for the Cleveland Browns is
their running back. He got a late start, Quinn Shawn
Jenkins has been really good in his in his first

(02:24:25):
two games and brings a lot to the offense. So
again one eight eight zero eight three four eight one,
or just go to Chuck wins dot Com get tonight's
play for three. But listen to the main reason I'm
playing the side here on this game with Cleveland. It's
not because of their offense, obviously. The main reason here
is this Cleveland defense their second in the NFL. Versus

(02:24:49):
the pass. They only allow five point one yards for
pass attempt. They're sixth against it in the rush, only
allowing three point seven yards per carry, their number one
in total yards. They have one of the top pass rushes,
led by Miles Geartt and I think Carson Wentz his
style of playoffs. So we'll be in big trouble with

(02:25:09):
this defense. Cleveland doesn't even have to blitz because they
put so much pressure on the quarterback that allows their
defense to do so much more. Even last week, if
you look at the Lions game, it looks like the
Lions put up a lot of points, but they only
allowed two hundred and seventy seven yards that Lions team.
Last week, Cleveland had three turnovers, two by Flacco, and

(02:25:29):
that didn't help matters here, So I do like Cleveland
plus the three and a half points in this game.

Speaker 1 (02:25:35):
Yeah, the hook matters in this too. It's like, what
a blessing that is. Before we continue on talking about
this again, guys, get the free play tonight call eight
hundred and eight zero eight thirty four eighty one. Good.
Go to Chuck wins dot com as well to see
all the success four weeks, four wins, and they were
undefeated in all their picks last week. So he's rolling.

Speaker 6 (02:25:55):
You know what.

Speaker 1 (02:25:56):
You made a great point, Chuck about this game, and
I am with you one hundred percent. This is a
blitz scene. Give you all kinds of looks. Feels like
you're haven't been in that position as a quarterback, where
like you're dealing with fifteen guys on defense a rookie.
I get it. You scale it down. But the one
thing about why this advantage. You saw what Jackson Dart
did energy wise for the Giants last week, and the

(02:26:17):
Cleveland Browns defense is begging for some points with Dylan
Gabriel in a blitzing team if you don't get him,
Unlike Flacco, we could see a few plays made with
his feet if the blitz misses, couldn't we chuck, which
is probably playing into part of your decision this week.

Speaker 6 (02:26:32):
Correct, Absolutely, Sean, you nailed it, no question about it.
His athleticism is a big, big part of this and
he will he can't move his legs and he could
roll out both sides to the ball, he could, you know,
And I think that's what they need against this Vikings defense.
I think Flacco would have been in big trouble the
way they blitz and Gabriel is a nice quick release

(02:26:52):
as well. And absolutely, I think that's a big part
of night. And you're right about that. As far as
the offense, they need, they need some you know, excitement,
and they just weren't getting it with the Flacco.

Speaker 1 (02:27:05):
Do you think Dylan Gabriel is there to stay in
this job?

Speaker 6 (02:27:09):
Well?

Speaker 1 (02:27:09):
Do you do you think this is a long term deal.
Do you think he'll prove to them that he's playing
it because he's a gamer he was in college. Do
you think you'll see uh uh, I mean maybe for
the rest of the year or what do you think
about the future with him? Just just overall just your
you know, with you not only betting games, but in
watching him as an expert on picking games.

Speaker 6 (02:27:28):
Yeah, you know, I think he's a he's a good
fit for this team for this year, for the type
of offense they have. They don't have a lot on offense.
You know, they can run the ball, and I think
you're going to see him run the ball a lot.
But they're really just kind of asking him to manage
the game here. So it's a tough call. Time will
tell it. Is he the quarterback that you put putting

(02:27:49):
the game on his shoulders and have him carry you.
We're not sure yet on that, you know, But that's
a good question.

Speaker 1 (02:27:56):
I don't know.

Speaker 6 (02:27:58):
I know college you played very well. You know all
the different colleges you went to. I think he was
at three different colleges. However, he's stepping up in class there.
But I think for what the situation with that Cleveland
is in right now, I think he's a good fit.
Is he the long term answer? That time will tell.

Speaker 1 (02:28:14):
Yeah, performance will have to show that. But I do
like thinking about the energy they're going to bring Chuck
before you tell them about that, pick one more time
and tell them about the Thursday stuff and give the
number out. One last thing from your opinion, did did
when you're picking this game. Did was there any thought
process into the Vikings have already been over there because
they played over you know, on the other side last week,

(02:28:35):
stayed over there. Cleveland's got to go over there that
they've accumulated it, you know, a little bit more rest
and the rest of it. Does that come into play
at all, that they that they've already been situated over there.

Speaker 6 (02:28:47):
It's does come in to play. You're opinion at it
because in my opinion, I know, and I go away
somewhere and I'm gone for two weeks, I don't get that.
I don't get the same kind of sweep that I
would do when I'm at home or or you know,
have things going on. It's more like a vacation mode
in it. Don't generally get that well asleep when you're
on the road, as you probably get attest to that. No,

(02:29:08):
I'm thinking Cleveland comes in you know with a you know,
with a little bit of pressure here than Minnesota, even
though they've been there already and Cleveland has to take
a long plane flight Minnesota. You know, Minnesota's been there.
That's a long two weeks. When you say.

Speaker 1 (02:29:22):
No, no doubt and the fatigue of being away from
your family and getting out of your normal routine does
come into play, no doubt about it. Chuck wins dot
com he's won every single week with every pick he's
had on here, every single week. So if you want
to put money in your pocket, you hope you're listening.
And you can also call him at eight hundred eight
oh eight three four eight one to get tonight's free pick.

(02:29:42):
That's eight hundred eight oh eight three four eight one.
So tell them one more time who you got in
this game and a real quick reason why with the
Vikings and the Cleveland Browns over there in London.

Speaker 6 (02:29:53):
Yeah, we're going to take Cleveland plus three and a half,
which is a big three and a half in this
defensive battles, That's what it's going to be. And I
Cleveland in their defense. I think their defense will be
dominant in this game, and I think three and a
half and play a big role.

Speaker 1 (02:30:06):
Well, we might as well stay undefeed and come back
and continue to put money in their pocket and come
back and keep telling them and take a sledgehammer to
everybody and say, you know what, be smart and take
chuckwins dot com and get these picks in great stuff.
I'm on your same page, man, I think this is
an interesting game. Defense and the energy of Dylan Gabriel
and home cooking and not being over there for two

(02:30:27):
weeks comes into play. It's eight hundred eight zero eight
three four eight one. That's eight hundred eight zero eight
three four eight one to get the free pick for tonight.
And obviously Chuck lets you know who he's got this weekend.
But you can go to chuckwins dot com chuckwins dot
com and see it all. Well man, great stuff. It's
great having you on. Not only great having you on,
but great seeing your expertise providing our listeners with some

(02:30:50):
great information and providing us with them. I'm taking your
picks and I'm winning with them every week, and I'm
jumping all over this because of you. So thank you,
my man. I appreciate it.

Speaker 6 (02:30:58):
Thank you, appreciate that.

Speaker 1 (02:31:00):
Let's keep it rolling, all right, We'll see you next week.
That's Chuck Ettel, Chuckwinds dot com. That's Chuckwinds dot com.
I'm gonna wrap this thing up, Dan and I here
boy went fast and thanks to Gordie as well. Come back,
take a few calls and talk a little football sports
talk seven to ninety.

Speaker 4 (02:31:15):
But first you want to talk some lunch. Jbarm Barbecue.
I'd love to like. How about a Wednesday special, a
brisket burger where let me just lay this out for you.

Speaker 1 (02:31:24):
And I haven't had that, dan, Yeah, if you had
the brisket burger, ye, not yet. Yeah, I can't wait.

Speaker 4 (02:31:28):
So for sixteen dollars, you're telling me I get a
housemade smoke brisket burger potato roll. You already got me
with those two American cheese jbarm mos sauce, top with
crispy onions and serve with fries.

Speaker 1 (02:31:39):
Son. Oh yeah, I mean, come on, man, and if
you want it while you're getting that sixteen dollars burger,
promise you if you were saying sixteen, but you'll walk
out of there and say worth every penny, should have
paid more. That's one. But you won't. Guys have cots
in the back. Yeah, no question, you need one. And
I love when they say American cheese because on a burger,
American cheese is in all the other cheese we put on.
American cheese is still the old, old school classic, taste delicious.

(02:32:02):
But here's another thing. I would encourage you indoor outdoor.
You got the TVs, the weathers. This is gonna be
that fall crisp coming around soon. I know it's not
there yet, but it's worth it. Go out there, have fun.
You can have your own private party that can house
a bunch. Great customer service, but the food, Dan, I
would encourage you. Eat that brisket burger and then do
yourself a favor. Maybe get the go box that loads

(02:32:25):
up some brisket or some chicken with some potatoes, salad
and a few of the fixings and take it home
for dinner. It'd be kind while you're watching tonight's Thursday
night football game. I love I love Jbarm. I always
compare I do. I'm one of those guys. Oh they're good, Well,
let me taste somebody else. And there's a reason I
keep going back Jbarn Barbecue dot Com.

Speaker 4 (02:32:43):
It's because of Hurrash, It's because of Hofey, it's everybody.
I mean, you got the brisky, you got the halopeno,
chueddar sauceag, you got the ribs, you got pretty much
anything that can be smoked and served as barbecue.

Speaker 1 (02:32:53):
They got it.

Speaker 4 (02:32:53):
Jbarm Barbecue told you about the Wednesday special. Also to
the full service bar they got right there, the beer
garden outside. You mentioned that too. It's jbar M Barbecue.
You say it all the time. Event no, event, there's
never a bad time to go to Jbarm Barbecue twenty
two one Leland Street, right there, Innito, this is the
Sean Salisbury show.

Speaker 6 (02:33:16):
That's good.

Speaker 4 (02:33:17):
It's almost like the bat signal. You know, you talk Texans, well,
then we know that the call is coming from Stafford,
so you know who that usually means. It's Larry, Larry,
what's up, buddy, That's.

Speaker 8 (02:33:28):
What's going on? Bulldogs. Don Hey look here, man, the
Texans aren't in a position to take anybody, likely whether
or not it's Cooper Rush or if Lamar is going
to play. You prepare for Lamar and we'll deal with
Cooper asked, because we got one of the best defense
in the league. You have to go in there and
win this game in Baltimore, which is a place you

(02:33:49):
have never won at and you've never beaten Lamar Jackson,
and you need this win to go into the bye
week at two and three and calming the Natives down
around Acetown. Man, because this team has the talent on
defense to be a super Bowl winning team or going
to the Super Bowl. And this is imperative on Nick Cator,

(02:34:10):
who I don't know if he can win me back
or my belief in that his offense is worth the
damn But he has to build off of the success
that they were having in the fourth quarter last week,
because that was the first game in four games that
I've actually seen CJ. Stroud look happy, man, and the
fact that they started playing them young kids over there.

(02:34:31):
I don't know what the Texas issue is, shuned. I've
said this before. If they can play, you put the
ass on the field. Bill O'Brien and these guys always believe, well,
rookie shouldn't be playing right now, I'll be damned. If
your ass can play, your ass would be on the field.
And we saw what Woody Marx and Higgins and Noel
and Arionte was doing over there. Now you just got
to build off of that. And I'm still in the

(02:34:52):
corner of you continue to allow Chubbs to get him
some carries closer to the goal line or whatever. But
Woody Marx has to be you wanted to. Running back
has to be your main ball carrier because he has
that little twitch and they get up and go that
we need in this offense, and it makes seed they
play the game a lot easier. And I still think
they should bring up Jawar Jordan as a change of

(02:35:14):
pays back, but we got to build off of that.
I'm excited about them going to Baltimore, but we got
to go into this buyer week at two and three
Shrine because we can do that. Jacksonville gonna have their
hands filled with Kansas City this week. We got a
chance to get this thing back down to one game. Fellas.
I'm back in the eighth Man from the Land of
ten Thousand Lakes and.

Speaker 1 (02:35:35):
It's a great point two and three sure sounds a
lot better and ere thing striking distance. It feels like
one in four and then going in the bye week,
words will fester for two weeks. Think about that. It's
gonna fester and be in your crawl and then you
got to deal with it and you can't go fix
it when you're playing, and then all of a sudden
and all you're gonna hear is the chatter one before
you're done, one before you're done. See is right? And

(02:35:58):
doesn't it sound like the distance between one and four
and two and three feels like an eternity. Right.

Speaker 4 (02:36:04):
It's the same in the opposite with college football. Nine
and three in the regular season, all right, hey, good season,
eight and four, ten and two, get your pay raise. Well,
I mean in some places, well some places it can
get you fired, right, But well, I mean on the
Big five, I mean, but.

Speaker 1 (02:36:17):
That's just it.

Speaker 4 (02:36:18):
I mean, it's that difference right there, because some people
might look at on the surface and say, when three
games you're back in this, But then it's like, okay,
you're one in four.

Speaker 1 (02:36:26):
What makes you think that three straight wins are in you? Right?
And with the way they've played, especially offensively, and you
do have to let it rip and get your best player.
Screw rookie or not rookie. If it's one of your
best eleven in situational football, you put them in and
you play them. He's exactly right. And with two and three,
and then you at least get a feel good feeling.
And if you play well offensively, not only a feel

(02:36:46):
good feeling, but now it's something to keep stacking good
offensive plays do because the defense is going to show up.
They always do. They'll have their moments, but they're going
to keep you in it, so it is monumental and
now you can see the end of the time all
that light. If you're one and four, dude, I'm just
gonna tell you it's broken done. You are not catching
the first place team at one and four with this

(02:37:07):
schedule ahead of you and with a poor performance. Well
again too. I mean we were talking about last week
with CJ. Gardner Johnson.

Speaker 4 (02:37:13):
You know why they whissed him away is because not
only was he going after his own guys, how soon
enough is it?

Speaker 1 (02:37:21):
Well?

Speaker 4 (02:37:21):
You know it'd be fine if those bums on offense
would actually start to pick it up. I'm sure you'd
use other words, but still.

Speaker 1 (02:37:27):
Remember early in the sea we had to talk about
does it exist that you can pit each other against
each other and go up and down the side and say, hey,
are you guys gonna pull your weight you're getting paid
two or are we gonna have to You're gonna have
to go and we'll stick that mask onto your helmet
on when you go pick your paycheck up and turn
your back and stick your hand behind your back and
pick that check up. That's how we trust me. I've
seen it and don't kid yourself. Oh, it's strong in

(02:37:50):
the locker room. I got news for you. It happens
and then all of a sudden, the player's only meeting
rears it's head. And as JJ Watt said, anybody else
that's done it, players only meetings automatic. We suck and
we're not very good, and we're damn near done. You
might as well plan your off season. One in four
is an awful way to go in any division, let
alone when the team in the first place and the

(02:38:11):
Colts is playing damn good football.

Speaker 4 (02:38:12):
Gotta get this fixed. I want to make sure you do.
And a way to do that is to play with
John go to three and one as well, aren't they? Yeah,
it just gets even better. He's Sean Salisbury, Triple E
Emmanuel Elmore. Friday edition of the show coming up tomorrow
from US six to ten and from ten to two.

Speaker 1 (02:38:29):
That's the Matt Thomas Show with Ross.

Speaker 4 (02:38:31):
Right now, we will talk to you in twenty hours
right here, Shawn Salisbury Show Sports Socks seven ninety
