With the season rolling on and games continuing to move along, the Astros seem to have hit a small bump in the road following yesterday's series opener loss to the Brewers now counting 4 of the Astros last 5 games as losses. Following a bit of disappointing news circling the organization, Yordan Alvarez has been placed on the Astros IL for a stint of 10 days regarding inflammation in his right hand. Taking some time off and hoping it does some good in the process, Sean and Dan take a moment discussing where this now leaves the Astros currently regarding Yordan's absence for the next 10 days.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Away we go in good morning here on the Sean
Salisbury Show. Triple Ee back in his seat, Sean me,
Dan Matthews, we've been here, but good to have Triple
Lee back. But aside from the sixth inning last night, Sean,
I did a little bit of the dossier on Twitter
after the game of you had nine hits, only one

(00:21):
extra base hit, jose L two a double, and you
went two for six with runners in scoring position. Not
one of the worst they've had, but eight runners left
on base. It was another great offensive performance out of
the Astros.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
So you played the dossier card three. You started to
hit dossier right now. It's a good word, you know.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
It's kind of like what me and you were talking
about before the show, the word obliged much obliged. Yeah,
absolutely gets the point across. It's a good, firm word.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
It's a good way to start getting people thinking I'm
with the dossier. Yeah, yeah, they were. It was kind
of nondescript game yesterday as far as just kind of
typifies what they've been this year offensively, more consistently than not. Yeah,
scatter some hits, leave some runners on base, not get
the big swing when you need it. Ronel Blanco grind

(01:13):
out six innings. You know it wasn't at his best,
but wasn't you know, wasn't I didn't feel like he was.
Oh my gosh, this is a laboring thing where he's
going to be done in two innings. So hung in there,
but you just can't win in this league's score and run.
He can't, and it's hard to do. And they I know,

(01:34):
we get this. We've got it from Dana and Steve
Sparks and we have talked about it. The if is
versus win thing, right, Okay, if they get hot or
when they get which one is it? I mean, you
get signed out with Jordan out with ten day and
retroactive back a couple of days whatever it was. While
it may not be a long term, oh my gosh,

(01:55):
thank goodness, he's not out for two months.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
Let's hope not.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
But that that power stuff that he's lacked, and that
that I don't know, if you want to call it
bat the explosiveness or whatever it is, will do. Is
it bats look better or is this a lingering thing
that's going to hang around. That's an if in mind,
because you don't know.

Speaker 3 (02:14):
I think he's had this.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
But we talked about it before with thumb, wrist, hands
where where it's I don't know if it's a different one,
same one. I didn't read it, but he's had hand
related in that area has bothered him before. Yeah, where
he's missed some games and struggled with it. Right now,
I don't know if it's the same injury or reoccurring.
If it is, costs for concern I think, But at

(02:41):
least if it is an injury, we know that maybe
that's the reason that the explosion hasn't been there. So
how quickly if and when you get it back? But
the if when they get hot, what do we doAnd
thirty games in now somewhere in.

Speaker 1 (02:54):
There, Yeah, last night's that was game number thirty four.

Speaker 3 (02:58):
There you go.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
So you're pushing forty, I mean almost halfway to forty
gamber when I say halfway, almost halfway through the thirties
on your way to forty. And then we always say
who a team is around sixty, give or take a
few streaks, win streaks and losing streaks along the way.

Speaker 3 (03:12):
So it's this.

Speaker 2 (03:15):
Has been an issue over the last year and just
thirty four games. The consistency of driving in runs and
clutch moments and putting those back to when they were
winning World Series. I mean they put three, four, five, six, seven, eight,
ten back to back, and they did it last year
out of after a twelve and twenty four start. But
I get the concern. And whenever your best hitter is

(03:37):
there's a concern there and he's the least laboring, it's
a problem.

Speaker 3 (03:43):
Yeah, this is a team just for fortunate. It's early.

Speaker 1 (03:45):
Yes, No, I mean, and that's the thing too, is
I mean you mentioned it. I mean, sixty games is
kind of when you can start looking at what your
team is. And that's going to come here in a
few weeks, so once we get to a Memorial Day weekend.
But it should have had Jake Myers at cleanup at Qualls,
Stros at Qualls, Astros on Twitter, Astros bases loaded Tracker

(04:07):
total four for thirty five lob asn't left on base
ninety one, nineteen runs, one Grand Slam. They've struck out
nine times, They've grounded into two double plays, four sacrifice flys,
three pop ups in one walk. Yeah, that's not getting
it done again, that's even more of the dossier with
the Astros. That's the long range dossier this season of

(04:30):
when it comes to them with the runners in the
scoring position and Sean, look, this isn't a this year thing,
a last year thing. This goes back to I would say,
the final two games of the LCS in twenty twenty three,
where it's just like a it just the term hammering
nails in halfway. It just seems like they do that
time and time again. And they had a couple of

(04:53):
decent stretches last year. And I know that Joe Spotta
last night after the game's saying, oh, hey, you know,
we'll get into groove, we'll get hot. It's just kind
of at this point where I think I'm like most
Astros fans like based off what, based off what?

Speaker 2 (05:05):
Man Well, then then the back of the baseball card
comes to fruition, and you don't want that either right
or not. I use the back of the baseball card
when the when the career is over. But yeah, well,
I know why they say it, because the manager and
the general manager and positioned the upbeat and positive of course,
and in their own time, they're whatever their concerns are there,

(05:27):
you know, keeping them among their circle of people that
you know that they trust in the organization and to
get this thing fixed. But they have to be frustrated
because it's not just oh man, we went through a
weak struggle. We'll get in line who didn't In baseball,
it happens to all of them. But yeah, I think
the reason they say that because when I say these
names Jordan, the ideas, Altuve, Panya, I start throwing out

(05:54):
names Christian Walker. You start saying, oh, I understand why
they think that when when they get hot. Why there's
track record, it's a pretty damn good baseball players and
guys who can swing the bat.

Speaker 3 (06:05):
So I get it.

Speaker 2 (06:07):
But there also comes a point that so the we're
going to get hot. But for me, it's not what
when they get hot, it's it. I guess I'm one
of those guys. I'd rather have you consistently just you know,
doing your thing, as opposed to up and down, like
you know, where the extremes on both are pretty extreme.

Speaker 3 (06:28):
And I know, and that's part of it. I think
that's what everybody's.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
Trying to achieve, the ability to consistently consistently, you know,
run producer.

Speaker 3 (06:35):
It's it's hard to do.

Speaker 2 (06:35):
It's hard to hit and pitching this especially with all
the specialization and you're seeing four or five guys a night, right,
you're not seeing one makes it difficult third bat or
by the time third back comes around. Nope, you're not
seeing a guy again. If you are, then ooh, he's
having a good night as a pitcher.

Speaker 3 (06:50):
So I'm with you.

Speaker 2 (06:51):
The frustration when we get hot roll off ten, twelve
in a row, fourteen in a row. Yet the problem
is if you're in patience, like, whin's the win happen?
And it's also to what is quote getting hot?

Speaker 1 (07:03):
Like, is that actually finally hitting home runs with a
couple of guys on which we saw Jake Myers do
it a couple of days ago, So it's not like
you're that far removed from it. But it's not, hey,
we've got a couple of guys on, Oh hey, there's
a really awesome RBI single. Like Astros fans at this
point are honestly the eyes roll whenever it's oh, hey,

(07:24):
there's another single, because that's what this team is, singles
and solo home runs.

Speaker 2 (07:28):
No, that's there's no lie, there, no lies detected there.
That's that's they They hit a lot of they play
a lot of small ball and I don't think it's intentional.
How's that That's my point, right, Yeah, I mean, and
you just you gotta as you see, you gotta slug
the ball, and like in this in this NBA, what
else you got to shoot threes? I mean, we know
the other things, but you've got to be on knockdown threes.
And Golden State proved that in Game seven. You you've

(07:51):
gotta I And that doesn't mean when you say that
you can't pound it inside and be physical in basketball,
or that you can't play small ball to get your
guy over and win a game. But in the way
that it's taught and the expectations, in the way that
people are putting game plans together, driving to baseball at
the ballparks a top priority.

Speaker 3 (08:12):
Now, I mean, and that's how you win in this game.

Speaker 1 (08:14):
I mean, look at the teams that are at the
top of the home run statistics in baseball, Yankees and Dodgers.

Speaker 3 (08:21):
And they are both in first place in their division.
There you go, and favorites to go the World Series.
There you go.

Speaker 1 (08:28):
And I mean in the Astros bottom third of the
league at this moment, I mean, coming into Saturday, I
was doing the pregame and we've got you know, one
of the parts of it is the home run counter
twenty fifth, tied for twenty fifth in baseball at least
on Saturday. I don't know what they are now, but
they were tied with the Twins in the White Sox.
Those are two teams you don't want to be tied
with when it comes to that.

Speaker 2 (08:48):
Yeah, because when the season's over, one of them may
hang around the other one's not going to be around. Well,
one for sure is not going to White Soze. Yeah, right, exactly.
Although I mean you say that and they just took
two out of three. You need them two or three.
And that's part of the problem, right Those teams you
can't let beat you. They can't win. So they may
win a game, they can't win series against you.

Speaker 1 (09:07):
And that's this the frustrating part. Like I mentioned, Astros
have lost for their last five. You're not Alvarez. We've
talked about him a little bit. I mean, what is
this at this point? Like is this like basically like
gout of the hand, Like is this like what he's
dealing with. I don't know, but anyway, you mentioned it
retroactive to May the third, So hopefully just needing this stint.

(09:29):
I know that we'll talk about it definitely with Dana
Brown tomorrow. But the Knicks and the Denver Nuggets pulling
off upset game one wins in their semi final series.
Although I mean, as I said to somebody last night
on social media, Seawan basketball season's over and it's especially
going to end today. When ema Udoka and Rafelstone talk
after that, it's like, Okay.

Speaker 3 (09:50):
It's over.

Speaker 1 (09:50):
If you're a hater like you are about basketball, but
kind other shows to watch? Man, what do I give
a damn what what happens? And I don't live in Austin,
I don't live in New York.

Speaker 3 (10:01):
I don't you had the eye at the end. That's yeah.

Speaker 2 (10:09):
Really it makes it go really like like Russian gangster,
even though from Russia.

Speaker 1 (10:14):
Yeah, I mean, it's like you know the you know,
eight pound baby Jesus, you know, you know front row
there at a skinnered concert in a tuxedo T shirt
that says he's formal.

Speaker 3 (10:24):
But he likes to party. Yeah. There you go, Okay,
there you go. Fair enough, fair enough.

Speaker 2 (10:27):
You played the Leonard Skinner card great well, the best
of all time, right, original Skinner that time I'm talking
about the original Yeah, I was gonna say, yeah, those
those guys gone way too soon for sure.

Speaker 1 (10:38):
But also to the Ravens cutting Justin Tucker under investigation
for sexual misconduct in a move they called a difficult
football decision. So we'll get into all of that as
the show goes along. But uh, coming up, I mean,
as we've talked about with Jordon, I mean, we've figured
that something was wrong, So hopefully is this the turning point?

(10:59):
We'll discuss that. How Brad see you right there, get
you involved in the conversation seven one three two one
two five seven ninety against seven one three two one
two five seven nine zero here on The Shawn Salisbury
