Hotspots Saturday. I'm Bob Pickett.Join us right now from land Coo.
We have got mister Lancaster, BrandonLancaster. You guys get ready to hop
on the bus and ed to Texas, aren't you. That's all right,

(00:21):
yeah, next twenty four hours we'llbe jumping back on the bus and the
head No, it's a little warmer. Well it is a little warmer,
but I tell you how cold isit there in Nashville right now? It
got down like the forties the othernight, which for Tennessee, I mean
it snows here, but it's youknow, we're not Wisconsin. We've met
with this whole tour. We've beenlike Midwest and way up north Minnesota,

(00:42):
Michigan. So yeah, we've been. We've been in some cold winter weather
already. Well, they we'll getit. Bring some cooler weather, not
cold weather. Bring some cooler weatherwith you if you don't mind, Okay,
Brent, all right, we'll bringit down he Yeah, first time
I met you guys. You guysare in town south by, Southwest,
and this has to be maybe sevenor eight years ago, first time I

(01:03):
saw you guys. What a greatband. You guys are amazing. Thank
you. We've only gotten worse sincethen. So let's talk about I remember
you explaining the story how the bandgot its name back then to me.
Can you share that story with ourlisteners? Yeah, I mean the name
origin's pretty simple. My name's BrandonLancaster, and so, you know,

(01:26):
I started writing songs and been writinga long time, but start putting a
band together. And in Nashville, you know, there's lots of players.
But because there's lots of players, there's a lot of work and so to
actually like keep a band together isvery difficult. So I kind of started
with myself and thought of your revolvingdoor musicians, and you know, met
the guys in the band and westarted playing and but yeah, you know,

(01:48):
years later, we're all still togetherand the rest is history and we
shorten into land coo if it's alittle better on a T shirt. Well,
you were telling me at the timesomething about you guys took over an
old warehouse or something. Oh yeah, that warehouse. There's some kind of
something that's coming back now, right. Oh yeah, it was a it
was an old card warehouse. Tripworked at a carpet warehouse in Dalton,

(02:08):
Georgia. Yeah, yeah, Dalton, Georgia, carpet cap in the World's
a trip work there, and uhand so yet night he was he got
the keys from one of the managersand that night would sneak us in there
and we'd settle our stuff up andand rehearse. And yeah, it's a
but of course, like a lotof things in Nashalette, and knocked that

(02:29):
warehouse down and now it's a condobuilding, rest in peace. The same
thing happens here in Austin. Iknew that I could. I'm trying to
remember that story before I talked aboutwhat a cool story. Of course,
we we know, you guys mainlyfrom the greatest love story, and that
is really it's a it's a truestory, isn't it. It is a
true story. Yeah, I meanit's it was really Uh, it's inspired
by my and my wife story.I wrote that song and uh, you

(02:52):
know, we were there's a fewdetails changed in it, but uh,
you know, my wife and I. We were young as a teenager when
we met, and yeah, wewere together, and then she she moved
away and we spent some time apartand then got back together with some drinks
and talked it out and realized, you know, we could meet in the
middle, and yes, sarted buildinga love story. And now all these

(03:13):
years later, we back then whenI wrote that song, we weren't even
you know, we weren't engaged ormarried or anything. We were just dating
and you know, kind of spokeninto existence. And now we're married with
just welcomed our second child in theworld like four weeks ago. Congratulations.
Did she know that song was abouther when you guys recorded it? Though?
Yeah. You know what's funny isthe first time so I mean,

(03:35):
I was, you know, justwriting songs in Nashville. We'd play little
house shows, and that song washighly inspired by our story. But the
first time I ever played it livewas at this little house show. But
she was there and all of ourfriends were there, and they kind of
knew our story. It was funnybecause like at the end, I say,
you know, got down on oneknee kind of thing, and everyone

(03:58):
in the room thought that I hadwritten this song to propose to her,
which really really was not the case. So everyone kind of like started looking
around. It was really like thenthe show just kept going, and then
she had to you know, shedefinitely knew that song was written about her,
and then she had to hear thatsong for a couple more years after
that, before we didn't get married. She kept saying, Okay, where's

(04:18):
the ring man you sing? Yeah, yeah, exactly. Well, once
it became number one, there wasno fool in her after that because okay,
you've got the money to buy aring. Now. A cool thing
about that song, A lot ofpeople can relate to it, and it's
also become a wedding song now forour generation with his niece, Yeah,
which is so wild. I never, ever, ever, I would never

(04:43):
just when I write songs, Iwould never sit down with the intention of
writing away. I don't like weddings. I hate weddings. I like what
yeah, I like what they represent. It's a beautiful thing. But just
you know, it's I've been tosome really fun weddings and I've gotten a
lot of picture but especially when Iwrote that, just like, I don't
know, there's boring and whatever, but I'm not. I would never try

(05:05):
to write a wedding song. Ijust wrote this, you know, my
story as I had perceived it,And yeah, now it's what I've learned
though, I've learned a lot aboutsongwriting and about what it is it speaks
to people through a song, becauseso much of that song's also very specific,
which is why I never thought itwould be a huge like hit or
anything. But really what I foundis so many people they just find pieces

(05:27):
of themselves in that song. There'slots of lines you know that I was,
what you want to do or whatI needed, we can meet in
between, and just these different youknow, the all American girl, troublemaker
guy like, there's just all thesedifferent themes and concepts and the idea of
separate taking some time to find yourselfand come back together. There's all these
concepts within that one song that peoplehave found in their own story, and

(05:47):
so it's been cool to watch itimpact people in that way. Just a
beautiful song. Now the cool thingis, you guys run along. That
song hit number one, and suddenlythe pandemic hits and it puts a stop
to touring, puts a stop toend everything. What did you do during
the pandemic, cried, I understand, No, it was a it was

(06:08):
a tough time. We put outthat song, and then we had after
that, we had a number onealbum, and then we had our first
song from a follow up album thatrocketed in like the top forty. And
we were out with Mariana Lambert andheadlining and just you know, doing all
kinds of stuff, and then youhave the pandemic. Really during that time,
there wasn't a lot you could do. You know, we wrote,

(06:29):
and I tried to write a lot. The reality is, as much as
people talked about writing during the pandemic, not a ton of great stuff came
out of that. I don't carewhat anyone says. For at first it
was great, but to right, you have to live life, you know,
and none of us were really livinglife, and so it was hard
to even write. The biggest thingthat we all did was kind of you
know, we've been on the roadfor probably five years straight when the pandemic

(06:51):
hit, and so really time tobe able to kind of start a life
at home and you know, dothings that you'd been putting off for years.
And we also all started families, had children, so you know,
kind of just really recentering and refocusingour personalized for sure. And then but

(07:13):
we got creative. We wrote, well, you just told me a couple
of weeks ago you had guys havejust released a new EP which the producer
man, what do you talk about? A red hot producer Jay Joyce a
chance. Yeah. It was justamazing, you know yeah he oh yeah,
brothers, Osborne, air Church,Carrie Underwood off you know in the
rock genre, a cage elephant, just lots of cool stuff. And so

(07:38):
you know, we we've been working. We worked with him on our first
album and I actually met him workingat a hot dog stand. I was
working a hot dogs star, wasworking behind the counter. Yeah, I
was working. This is two thousandand fourteen, maybe fifteen, and working
at Keith Urban Concert that I usedto sell concessions. I was like my
little side gig before Lanco hit.And I literally saw him walk by and

(08:01):
recognize him and introduce myself to him, and that you know, he was
like, oh, come on,student time playing some songs. And that
kind of started a relationship that wedid that first record with him, and
then we uh yeah, so thisgot back in the studio with him for
this project and it's been a lotof fun. Well what a cool story
again. Landco The Hotspot in CedarPark Saturday Night, The Hotspot if you've

(08:22):
never been. It's one of thecoolest places in Austin. Around Austin right
there. So we're going to seeLandco Saturday Night, Thought Spot. Hope
it joins Brandon. Do you guysbe careful on the bus coming to Austin.
Okay, we'll see you Saturday night. Absolutely so soon.
