Speaker 1 (00:04):
Thirteen to ten, Wiba and Madison in the morning while
you can feel it in the air. It is fair season,
just a few days away from the greatest eleven days
of summer here in Wisconsin, and joining us from the
Wisconsin State Fairs. Their communication manager Tim McCormick. Tim, how
are you doing this morning?

Speaker 2 (00:23):
I'm great. The countdown is on. We are very excited
to start welcoming folks to our fairgrounds.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
It's exciting. And you and I were talking a bit
before we came on air this morning, and you were
pointing out, we're less than a week away from the
state Fair, aren't.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
We, Hey, we are. We are begins Thursday, July thirty first,
and runs through August tenth, so make sure it mark
your calendars.

Speaker 1 (00:43):
Let's talk about that just real quick before we get
into some of the specifics state fair. Obviously, state fairs
across the country are a big deal here in Wisconsin.
Oh my gosh, what a big event this is, and
it seems to grow every single year. Let's talk a
little bit about the history of state fair here in Wisconsin,
and I know things are always always changing, and we'll

(01:04):
talk about some of the new stuff as well. But
a little bit about the history of the state fair
here in the state of Wisconsin.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
Yeah, we are celebrating our one hundred and seventy fourth
State Fair, so again Market Calendar's next year, that one
seventy five is going to be a big milestone for us.
We love welcoming folks to our nearly twenty acre campus
here in West Dallas. We think we're very unique in
the fact that we're just minutes from downtown Milwaukee, but

(01:31):
we have so many partners and vendors and folks that
are putting on agricultural displays that really represents the state
of Wisconsin. We are one of the most highly attended
state fairs throughout the country, usually drawing more than a
million people a year. And this year, actually the readers,
the editors I'm sorry at USA Today nominated us as

(01:51):
one of the ten best state fairs in the country,
So you know it's a big deal. When we kept
Serota is.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
That is very very cool to see and not surprising
the here because having had a chance to go to
not only obviously the Wisconsin State Fair many many times,
and other state fairs and they're all really really good,
but there's nothing like the Wisconsin State Fair. You mentioned
the campus as well. In such a convenient location as
we talk here in Madison, it's a very short commute,

(02:17):
very easy to access, and I've always been impressed by
that is the fair grounds are a perfect mix of
very obviously very near Milwaukee, very easy to get to
right off the interstate. But when you get on the
fair grounds, it doesn't I don't know how to describe it.
Maybe it's the smells and the sounds, but it has
that feel of it's a very and maybe it's just

(02:38):
again the fact that that it's it's a fair ground,
but it just feels very rural. It has a very
I don't know how it is, but it kind of
like it like takes you there, if that makes sense
to him.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
Right, it's unique in that respect again, you know, nearly
two hundred acres. We do have a lot of facilities
that are built specifically for agricultural display because that is
such a large part of Wisconsin's his streak. But it's
also unique that we have, you know, this purpose built
baregrounds here. A lot of places might just put up
a tent for a week or so. We find that

(03:09):
that infrastructure is really convenient for us. We can work
year round on improvements such as our brand new dairy building,
which just finish up eleven months of renovations. There available
for year round events. So if you want to get
married in the Dairy building, one could be more Wisconsin
than that. But it's also the place where where you
will find that iconic dessert, the cream puff.

Speaker 1 (03:30):
This year, did I and Tim? Did I catch this
right with? Since we've got the renovated dairy building, there's
going to be some new offerings with the cream puff?
Is there something there go tell us about that?

Speaker 2 (03:41):
Yeah, we're very excited. With that new state of the
arts bakery, they could get a little more creative. So
we've got some plans in the works for future years,
but this year we're very excited. We have, of course
the original cream puff, everybody's favorite, but we've also introduced
chocolate for all eleven days of the state and thanks
for our friends at us Failure, which are celebrating twenty

(04:05):
years of partnership with the Wisconsin State Fair, we have
a celebration strawberry cream Puff. I had chance to taste
test one of those the other day. I guarantee you
will have an ear to ear smile if you get
one of those in your belly. They are available in
limited edition runs, so you want to be sure to
make your way to the dairy building early to make
sure you can secure one of those.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
As we talk about getting ready for the Wisconsin State
Fair and we talk about some limited edition things and
of course concerts and other things going on, you definitely
want to head over to wistatefair dot com. That's wistatefair
dot com. Ticket information and tickets available as well online.
And speaking of amazing partners, you mentioned us Cellular, I
did see Bank five to nine as signed on. They

(04:48):
are sponsoring your main stage. Let's talk about the main
stage event. That is a separate ticket. Obviously, the ticket
includes admission to the State Fair, but you guys are
able to bring in with that some really big acts
that I saw Leonard Skinnard among others coming to the
State Fair this year.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
Yeah, very excited and like you said, a great value preposition.
With your ticket to the main stage acts, you do
get admission to the State Fair that day as well,
so you're taking care of their But like you said,
Leonard Skinnard, Darius Rucker, John Pardi, I know a lot
of the headbangers are excited for Queen's Rice with Great
White and Quiet Riot. We've even got a little bit

(05:27):
of comedy in there with Gabriel Fluffy Fluffy Iglesias. So yeah, again,
just like every other offering at the State Fair, we
try to make sure that we have something for everybody. So,
like you said, check out wistatefair dot com. Check out
how you can get your tickets to those shows.

Speaker 1 (05:43):
Those are going to be great, great shows. It's going
to be great events again, running eleven days, kicking off
July thirty first, running through August tenth. All those details
available wistatefair dot com. And along those entertainment lines there
are what thirty stages free stage shows as well.

Speaker 2 (05:58):
Yeah, so literally of free stages of entertainment all throughout
the eleven day run featuring your favorite regional and local
acts plus roving performers. Again, with two hundred acres here,
just about every corner is going to be packed with
some sort of fun activity for you and the.

Speaker 1 (06:14):
Fam and the Midway as well. Yeah, Spin City is
is legendary, and that's I think about, you know, bringing
the family, and I know all of us have that
that one person that loves to ride all the rides
and that adventure type, and that's awesome. I'm one of those.
I'm always the ride along with them and I love

(06:35):
doing that stuff. You also have things for folks that
are that are looking for some other other things. I
think of nothing beats a little bit of sweet corn
and h and kind of taken in the agricultural part
of it as well. And of course we can't forget
of course it being at the state Fair. A lot
of livestock and other opportunities there not only to uh
to learn something, but but see some great work done

(06:56):
by by kids across the state. When it comes to raising, uh,
they're they're.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
Livestock raising their livestock, creating artwork, looking at some of
the older folks creating quilt taking photos. I think there's
home brewing and wine making competitions. So like I said,
it's like no other fair. It celebrates the history, the
industry and the people of Wisconsin. So again, when you

(07:21):
see those folks win those ribbons and they have those
ear to ear grins, again, it's a feeling like no other.
And when you get to share in a little bit
of that, it's a memory made for a lifetime.

Speaker 1 (07:30):
Talking this morning with Tim McCormick. Tim comes to us
from the Wisconsin State Fair again. The eleven days kicks
off July thirty. First, all the details online Wystatefair dot com.
That's Wistatefair dot com. Before we wrap, we've got to
talk about food. Everything on a stick and one of
the cool things you guys have been doing the past
few years sporkies and drinkies. And for folks that don't know,

(07:54):
this has really got quite competitive amongst the amongst the
vendors to be submitted and be a finalist for these
for these awards.

Speaker 2 (08:03):
Big breaking rights at stake here. We just back in
June announced the sport, Keys and drinkies finalists. Some of
those that you might check out during the fair. A
hunk a Honk Fat Elvis Donut ice cream sandwich.

Speaker 1 (08:17):
What a name they are alone.

Speaker 2 (08:19):
We're very excited. It seems like the Broughtworst is having
a moment, although in Wisconsin that might be every summer.
We've got blueberry breakfast brought Worst. We've got a bratt
rangoon looking towards the drinkies finalist. Some great refreshers there,
including some non alcoholic versions so that everybody can take
part in the competition there, Carnival Cooler, dirty Pancakes, purple

(08:42):
rain refresher, I think you can imagine who that was
inspired by. And then of course the Dubai Chocolate Strawberry smoothie.
It seems like Dubai Chocolate is also having a moment.
So we've got more than a few options there that
you can check out throughout the run of the Wisconsin
State Fair.

Speaker 1 (08:56):
It should be a lot of fun. The giant slide
up and ready to.

Speaker 2 (08:59):
Go just about I keep on joking with my family
that that's what I'm doing all day, is just testing
that to make sure it's running early. But I got
to look see the other day they are putting some
finishing touches on it. So again, for kids of all ages,
they have to make that memory an annual tradition here
at the State Fair.

Speaker 1 (09:17):
Definitely is a great photo opportunity as well. I know
a lot of folks for generations have as you mentioned,
of course that's something that they always do, and of
course getting pictures of it as as well. What a
great week it's going to be eleven days, as a
matter of fact, more than a week. Eleven days backing
it in July thirty first through August tenth. It is
the Wisconsin State Fair. Information available tickets as well at
wystatefair dot com. That's wistatefair dot com. Tim McCormick with
