Speaker 1 (00:00):
Eight forty thirteen ten Wuiba and Madison in the morning
and joining us this morning the brought man himself, Tim
Metcalf with Broadfast. Tim, thank you so much for holding
a little bit of a little bit of shuffling going
on there, but thank you for being patient.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
Great to have you along. How you doing this morning.
Speaker 3 (00:19):
Doing really doing really great, Sean. We're down at Broadcast
on the island, putting tents up right now, putting signs up,
and getting ready for Broadfast, which is going to start
just in four days. Man.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
We got a few days until Broadfast kicks off, and
we'll talk about some of the entertainment, some of the
great features. But I probably the biggest part of Broadfast
that maybe not a lot of people know, which is
how Broadfast operates. And it's a huge volunteer opportunity for
a lot of folks. And I know Tim getting people
(00:50):
on board to volunteer, and I know a lot of
great charities benefit through Broadfast. You need more, You guys
need more volunteers, don't you.
Speaker 3 (00:59):
Yeah, we do. We've got we got about nineteen hundred
volunteers at volunteer throughout the weekend and we'll probably raise
a little bit over one hundred thousand dollars this weekend
for the five oh one c threes that they volunteer for.
Right now, we really need help, I want to say.
On Sunday night, you can just go to the web
page Broadfast dot com and look up look under volunteers.
(01:22):
We need help on Sunday night, Sunday evening, both on
the grills and in the in the broad tent, and
then we need help on Monday to tear it down.
So there's still, you know, plenty of shifts available. And
if you volunteer, you you earn for the charity that
you that you volunteer for twelve dollars an hour for
that charity, you get the coveted Broadfast T shirt, You
(01:44):
get a brat, and you get an ice cream, and
then you get to Broadfast and be with you know,
all the all the fans of Broadfast down here on.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
The island, and it's always you know, I get a
chance each year I get out just to kind of
watch some of the shows, but also get a chance
for take You Brought to Workday, which is because a
giant event onto itself kind of the kickoff to the weekend.
And I always love seeing the volunteers. They're all having
such a good time and of course folks working the
grill and helping direct traffic and collecting money. I mean,
(02:13):
uh they not only is it just a fun day,
but clearly a very very up, great opportunity for charity
as well. Let's talk about some of the music events
that you guys have. I always love with Broadfast. You
get a variety of different artists, whether it's Steven Adler
from Guns n' Roses or Ski low. I saw a
digital underground with the Humpty Dance. I'm gonna bet at
(02:37):
Broadfast this year. A lot of work goes in also
to putting putting the music portion of this together, doesn't.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
It Tim, Yeah, yeah it does. I'll just I'll touch
base on just on take your back to Work Day,
so that's just Friday. But we got something new this
year for it is we've got a fast lane. So
if you if you go to the website, order online
and order over one hundred brats, then you get a
fast pass, so you will basically right to the front
(03:05):
of the line. So sometimes you know there you know,
there's a lot of people that come for that portion
of it, and there'll be a little bit of a wait.
But if you you know, if you order online, get
one hundred brats for let's you know, let's say the
office or you know, your team members, you can get
right to the front of line. And then also this
year we're delivering, so if you can go to the
web page and order online any anything over sixty, we'll
(03:29):
deliver them to you between nine and noon. And then
just to talk a little bit about the music part
of it is, yeah, we've got seventy different acts playing
all weekend long, and you mentioned a few of them.
You know, there's a you know, Ace Freeley, Tyler Farr,
and then Steven Adler for Guns Roses is going to
(03:50):
be here this year, and then Danny Goki, who is
an American idol you know from Milwaukee, pretty famous local
boys going to be here. So we'll have seventy different
acts playing on three stages, music all weekend long. So
it should be a lot of fun.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
It looks like it's going to be an absolutely amazing event. Again.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
It kicks off with Take Your Brought to Work Day
on Friday, runs for the weekend. The website broadfast dot
com that's Broadfast all one word dot com.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
And uh, you've got not just the food.
Speaker 1 (04:19):
Of course, all built around the food, in the in
the entertainment, but you guys do a carnival as well,
and I know you get some local celebrities as well
to pitch in and uh, and you've got a great
lineup this year as well for for celebrity cashiers as
don't you.
Speaker 3 (04:34):
Yeah, we do so a lot of our you know,
for Broadfast celebrities are a lot of the people that
work for our community. So you'll you'll see your your
alders will be here, Uh, your county supervisors will be here.
The the the person that's in charge of, you know,
(04:55):
cleaning the streets or picking up trash, all of those
department heads will be the celebrity cashiers. So the people
that work for us, for the community are what Broadfast
considers our celebrities. And then of course we have you know,
TV hosts and radio hosts and all that that'll be
celebrities too. But we have a lot of other fun
things to do with broadcast for the whole family. We've
(05:16):
got a farm zone so you can pet and feed animals.
Last year we had a zebra there. We got the
of course, the carnival kid zone, lots of fun things
to do, meeting Bucky Badger and mascots and all that.
A sports zone, we've got the World's well, I don't
say the world was almost Wisconsin's largest volleyball tournament. That's
happening on Saturday. We've got a five k and a
(05:39):
ten k run, a kids run, a dog jog, just
a lot of fun things. And then of course Sunday
night we've got fireworks. So that's Sunday Saturday night, we
have fireworks at nine oh five and so one of
the best fireworks shows in Madison are so of encourage
everybody just to come out for that too.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
It is.
Speaker 1 (06:01):
It is a great weekend and a great event and
of course the official kickoff of summer here in Madison,
southern Wisconsin, across the country.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
And uh and Tim.
Speaker 1 (06:10):
One final thing I do want to talk I actually
do want to talk a little bit more about charity.
But you mentioned some of the headliners, and one of
the cool things that you guys do with broadcast is
for folks that are you know, you talk about some
big names and some just some great talent that you
have coming to Broadfast. You guys have VIP passes and
other other opportunities. I know some of some of them
are sold out quite quickly and some of them are
(06:32):
very limited.
Speaker 2 (06:33):
But for folks that are that are quick.
Speaker 1 (06:35):
And want to get on those get into those VIP
there are still some there are still some opportunities there
aren't there.
Speaker 3 (06:42):
Yeah, there is, I'm not sure exactly which ones are
still available. So just go to the web page and
you know, look up look up the VI I p
A Experiences and see what's available for like let's say
Ace freely telor for Stephen Adler and Danny Colchi. And
then what you get is you get the basically be
right up front. You're you're like right at the stage,
(07:04):
and then uh and then you sometimes you get to
meet uh the artist. Not all the time. It's really
kind of up to the artists, uh if they make
that available. But at least you get to be basically within,
you know, a yard away from them as they're performing.
So that's that's a lot of fun.
Speaker 1 (07:22):
It is great. Also get VIP parking. You get some
brock bucks and T shirt and some some Again, as
you mentioned that, the best is your you know, your
pit access, your front row.
Speaker 2 (07:32):
You're right up there, so yeah.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
Those are those are limited quantities. And as I noticed,
because a certain artists I was looking as sold.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
Out, I thought, oh, well.
Speaker 1 (07:42):
So you want to definitely obviously a very popular, a
very popular pass and again still have those available as well.
And just heading over to broadfast dot com. That's broadfast
dot com.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
Tim.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
One final thing before we wrap up this morning. This
all started out. I'll let you tell the story by
but your father started this and it's always had a
very strong community connection and a very very strong charitable
connection as well.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
Hasn't it.
Speaker 3 (08:10):
Yeah, so yeah, this is our forty third year and yeah,
it was started by my dad and it was just
it was a simple idea. It was really it was
just a customer appreciation event in front of a store
to basically say thank you to his customers. And he
sold brats for like fifty cents and pops for a quarter.
(08:34):
And every year it just, you know, it just got
bigger and bigger and bigger, and then we added tables
and we got more grills, and then we had to
get volunteers. And you fast forward to forty three years
later and we'll probably have over one hundred thousand people,
you know, come to Willow Island. You know, we have
(08:56):
three you know, huge stages with all the these you know,
these you know, amazing entertainers. And the DNA is still
basically the same. It's it's you know, it's it's free.
The parking is free, the music is free, the emission
is free. You know, we'd like you to buy a brat.
(09:20):
We'd like you to buy a beverage if you if
you come, but you don't have to. You can just
kind of come down and enjoy community, enjoy some great music,
enjoy you know, being out with family and friends and
and doing what Wisconsin people do, which is eave bratts
and you know, and listen to music over Memorial Day weekends.
So and then since that time, we've almost raised about,
(09:44):
you know, two point eight million dollars two point nine
you know, all out of basically just a brat and
a beverage, and all of that money stays right here
in Dane County. We have about one hundred five o'
one c threes and people donate their time. I'm two
d cyber one c threes and that's how we raise
(10:05):
money for them. So it's done a lot of really
great things for the community and the DNA is basically
the same as what it was when my dad started
at forty three years ago.
Speaker 1 (10:15):
Tim, thank you so much for all the I know
for folks to get a chance to see you. You
put a ton of work, not only obviously over the weekend,
but folks may not know this, but the months and
months and months leading up. I know you work full
time on this, and it really shows what a successful
and great event it is. Again Broadfast coming up by
just a couple of days, a few days away, more
details online Broadfest dot com. That's broughtfest dot com. Pick
