Speaker 1 (00:00):
Eight oh nine, thirteen ten wib A Madison in the
morning and ask the experts. Joining us now mister Andrew Larson.
Of course, Andrew comes to us from Larsen Home Services
Online Larsenhomeservices dot com. That's l A R. S O
N Home Services dot Com. Telephone number six SO eight
five three five forty three forty three. That's six SO
(00:22):
eight five three five forty three forty three. And Andrew,
I got to tell you something. You're quite the celebrity
around the Preble House now you've been You've been very
popular with my wife and I for years. You guys
did did our roof a few years ago, and we've
absolutely loved it and loved the work that you do.
My son is a big YouTube guy and uh and
you'll never guess who he sees on YouTube quite often
(00:45):
talking about a chisel and a hammer. And I'm like,
I know that guy Matson, and my son now thinks
I'm cool because I know Andrew Larson. So how you been?
Speaker 2 (00:53):
Well, if you want an autograph, Larsen Home Service has
hat or something.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
I probably may have.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
Oh we may we may have to touch touch base
on that because it's funny it's and you've got, You've got,
you've got kiddo's. It's funny to me that like that
is for them what they watch. Like I always think
like growing up it was the you know, the Farmer five,
and then you know, when you were really advanced, you
watch like those streaming services. But kids, it's literally YouTube,
(01:20):
that's what they, at least in our household.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
That's what they watch. That is that's it.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
Yeah, it's it's YouTube videos, it's YouTube shorts. It's that's it.
I mean I remember growing up and you know, I'd
have you know, twenty minutes before school and we'd watch
like Woody the Woodpecker, and you know, I'd have to
watch commercials. Yeah my gosh, yeah, way back in the
day on our little like eleven inch TV in the
in the kitchen. But yeah, it's it's YouTube. And and
(01:46):
you know what, we reach a lot of people YouTube.
That's a pretty cool thing about it is anybody anywhere
can make videos and put content out there in hopes
to educate people and or just make people laugh. I
do both. You probably more laugh because most of the
time I sound kind of dumb, but it is what
it is. Well, yeah, whatever, as my old content guy
(02:09):
would say, oh, videographer haters get views.
Speaker 3 (02:14):
And that's that's all the matters. People are because you
say something dumb, it's all good.
Speaker 1 (02:18):
Yeah, it's perfect. Then of course you can follow. I
know you and Josh do a bunch of great videos
as well, and folks can link to those if you're
on YouTube, or of course if you head on over
the Larsenome Services Facebook page as well, got links to that.
And you know, one of the things you talk about
in some of your videos is obviously insulation. And when
(02:38):
it comes to performance work. One of the things that
people really should understand about Larsenalme Services is you guys
do it right. And there are some things people have
to understand about doing a job right and something that's
going to last. There are going to be differences between
what you guys do at larsenalal Services and some of
these some of these other people may be doing right.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
Correct. I mean, and I've talked about like the way
to you know, the way to put our services out
there to get people to know what we do. We
have to advertise insulation, okay, I mean, because that's just
what people think of. But a couple of years ago.
We really we tried to make what we do proprietary
and we tried to brand it so people can really
understand that it's more than just insulation. And that's why
(03:20):
we came up with the ultimate addict solution. Other contractors
could do exactly what we're doing. It's not like it's
a it's a magic product. It's what it is is
a magic process in the way we do it. And
it's it's funny because other contractors just don't do it.
(03:40):
And when in order for a homeowner to get done
what we want done from someone else, they would have
to specifically ask them, can you do A, B, C,
D and E in the process. Otherwise they're just not
going to because it's difficult and honestly, it's expensive. And
this is what I wanted to talk about today, is
I mean with the weather we've had it and now
getting a little warm up, which, to be honest with you,
(04:02):
like I literally just got the snowmobiles out and I
was like, you know what, we get to use these
suckers this year and now it's like, yeah, no trails
are done. I'm sure they'll come back, but anyway, with
this weather, I'm all over the place, all over the time.
And you know, all I do is look at roofs
and gutters, and all I look at now are ice dams,
(04:22):
and I mean bad ice dams. And we're getting call
after call about ice dams and leaking. And you know,
with the internet nowaday with or with Google and especially AI,
it's not difficult to educate yourself on what causes ice dams,
which has been really great for us because a lot
of people are like, well, our gutters are calling in
our stams.
Speaker 3 (04:42):
No they're not.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
It's just that water freeze is when it hits cold metal.
But people can educate themselves so they understand, like, okay,
ice dams are caused by heat loss and poor ventilation.
And there's also one other recipe, and that's called mother nature.
You know, if your house is facing south, you get
sun gets at night like you're gonna get freestyle. There's nothing.
I don't care what anybody tells you. There's nothing you
(05:06):
can do to stop that, not a thing. It's just
going to happen. The only thing you can do to
stop mother nature from causing ice dams is get the
snow off your roof before it can melt and freeze.
All Right. That being said, tons of calls because of ice, dams,
leaks and homes people need to fix it. And a
big question we get a lot is we've heard that
(05:29):
you're a lot more expensive. Well, it is true, we
are more expensive than someone else doing insulation work because
we're not doing insulation work. Insulation is part of the
work that we do. But it's it's honestly, it's I
think I've described it like this before. It's like it's
(05:49):
like the insulation is like putting the shingles on the roof. Okay, it's,
in my opinion, the beautiful part. If I look in
an attic and it's all the work is done, and
you to see that beautiful layer of insulation.
Speaker 3 (06:04):
Right.
Speaker 2 (06:05):
But what we did was we covered up all the
critical details, just like shingles and our flashings and ice
and water and underlayments and sidewall, flashing, chimney, all of
that stuff. The shingles then cover up all of the
things that actually do that really protect your home from leaking. Well,
everything that we do under the insulation is the stuff
that truly stops and slows heat loss and what makes
(06:28):
it perfect, and that's what the ultimate add solution is
and that's where we slow the heat loss from your home,
which then I can't say, we can't ever say that
we're going to completely stop I stamps. But if you
have massive ice dams due to heat loss, due to
the fact that you have horrible insulation, horrible ventilation, and
horrible air ceiling, we are going to get rid of
(06:48):
them and or drastically reduce them down to nothing unless
some of your ice melt is caused from mother nature,
which the only thing that can be done is getting
these snow off the roof. So the question I said
to you today was we need to talk about the
difference between insulation and home home performance work and why
it's so much more expensive. It's more expensive because it
(07:11):
actually fixes a problem. That's funny, right, It actually fixes
the problem.
Speaker 3 (07:16):
Whereas if someone comes out and says, yeah, you're getting
ice dams because you need more insulation, and they blow
more insulation in, the one thing I'll guarantee you is
they just made a couple thousand dollars and you.
Speaker 2 (07:28):
Will still have ice dams. There's no way around it.
It's a fact. And we go out to people's houses
all the time where they have a quote for three
or four thousand dollars and we're eight to twelve thousand dollars.
But once it showed we have to educate homeowners first
on how it all happens. Once we educate how it happens,
(07:49):
now we can show how we're going.
Speaker 1 (07:55):
Oh oh ma'am, I get.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
It so blowing up on top of our old crappy
actually want to fix anything right, It will fix nothing.
Speaker 3 (08:06):
That is.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
All of the first man.
Speaker 3 (08:12):
This is because were still anything. It's impossible.
Speaker 2 (08:18):
I used I think I've.
Speaker 3 (08:20):
Used it on here. But if anybody is a dog,
you gotta go your yard right now? Yeah with the stone.
Speaker 1 (08:32):
Oh we just lost, oh Andrew. It was breaking up
and we lost Andrew because I want to know what
you do with your dog when it comes to uh,
when it comes to no, we lost. Well, we heard
you there.
Speaker 2 (08:46):
Okay, Oh you're back. Okay, you are back.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
Did you hear what I was talking about?
Speaker 1 (08:53):
We got we got to we got a little bit
into it, and then it just it just dropped off.
My friend.
Speaker 3 (08:58):
What I'm saying, we have to remove the intelation And
I said, anybody out there dog and try to golden
the yard right now, fourteens of snow and pick a
dog pool.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
You will get some of it, but you will miss
the most. The same ceiling act with inta, so one.
Speaker 3 (09:16):
To explain that this is what we new need to
do to get this done properly. Now makes sense because
with them you want to get fresh, we want to
do a perfect air seal. We want to take the
probably on the floor, probably adding actually we didn't have
the four we need to be able to steal properly
(09:39):
because that's a that's a huge problem. If we've got
running up in the middle house caire coach two inches around
them for fire protection. Well, a two inch gap all
the way around three by three chimney a huge, huge loss.
Speaker 2 (09:57):
So we take care of that and then we cover
with the point being is a lot more expensive because
there's a lot more work, a lot more material, a
lot more training expertise, and it actually mixes it.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
And as we.
Speaker 3 (10:12):
Ask about now.
Speaker 1 (10:15):
That and that is and and Andrew you talked to
about about educating folks and and understanding what it is
that's being what's causing the problem, and how that problems
actually resolved. And I one of the things, and I'll
go back to my personal experience. Talked about working with
you on a on a few projects over the years
that at Cosa del Preble. I remember the first time
(10:37):
it was we worked on We did the roof, and
one of the things that was really important was h
for a specifically my wife because as as with we
all know and all of our households, our wives are
the bosses, uh, and kind of control the purse strings
is understanding what what we were paying, why we were
paying and and once she understood that, it was like,
(10:57):
oh no, this there's nobody else we'd ever go with
other than other than Larsenom Services because she learned what
the value is and what what you're doing. I think
of you mentioned the you know, the just throwing a
bunch of insulation in there, and yeah, there's going to
be the contractor is going to make a bunch of money,
but it's not going to solve your problem. It's like
if you have an issue with your furnace and saying,
well we'll just throw a couple more blankets on and
(11:19):
where thick socks socks, Well, yeah you might be warmer,
but the issue still exists. So Andrew, it's I think
that that education is important really good illustration. I don't
know if we've had some connection issues. I don't know
if you're still able to able to hear us, but
I will tell you this a great day to give
Andrew a call, a great day to work with the
folks at larsenome Services. Their website Larsenhomeservices dot com. That's
(11:41):
l A R. S O N Home Services dot com.
And they're telephone number six oh eight five three five
forty three forty three. That's five three five forty three
forty three connected with Kevin Ham of Ham's Arborcare. We'll
do that next here on thirteen ten doll, will you
