Speaker 1 (00:04):
I b a and asked the experts. Brought to you
by the t m J Pain Center Online TMJ Paincenter
dot com. That's Tmjpaincenter dot com.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
All one word.
Speaker 1 (00:14):
You can learn all about TMJ. You can learn more
about doctor Paul and Selera who joins us this morning.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
You can if they need to be counseled during what
we're saying. If I don't think that's if it's not happening,
then I've got to be the one to be the
bad guy and say, well we got to do this
a little better. Uh, And that's what I need to do.
Speaker 1 (00:35):
And I think people really one respect that. But also
I think, uh, you know, the truth never hurts, right
is when.
Speaker 4 (00:43):
We know about that part, well, you know we were
well yeah, but when we were talking last week about
about kind of understanding what the process is and and
and working through that is, you know, I remember thinking, well,
a lot of us want to take a pill or
take that injection, or get some type of surgical thing
or have some type of appliance that's going to solve
(01:05):
this is.
Speaker 3 (01:05):
Not the place for you. Then yeah, okay, my place
is based on muscle measure, It's based on you being
consistent in your approach to getting better based on what
we explain to you. And that's how it works, and
we measure it all and we're with you the every
step of the way. But I need your contribution. And
(01:25):
sometimes I'll just say, look, I don't have any friends,
so and this is why, because I have to be
the objective person in the room. And if I don't
think it's getting done, I'll let you know.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
Talk this morning with doctor paulin Slaire. He is with
the TMJs Sleep and Pain Center of course online Tmjpaincenter
dot com. That's TMJ Paincenter dot com. You can schedule
a free consultation that care consult right online at Tmjpaincenter
dot com for you were that special person in your
life or both of you. Again, if you're noticing any
(01:57):
of these signs or have those concerns, great day to
get that care consult with doctor Paul from the TMJ
Pain Center.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
Doc.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
Let's talk a little bit about the history of the clinic.
You know, last week we talked a little bit about
your history, a little bit about the history of.
Speaker 2 (02:09):
The work that you do.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
What about the clinic itself, of course, located right on
Century ab in Middleton.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
What's the backstory there.
Speaker 3 (02:16):
Well, the original clinic was actually on Greenway, so we
were there before Greenway Male was there, and then eventually
we moved to Century So the awareness has built up
we get I mean, we didn't have any awareness factor
built into that clinic at that point, so it took
time and with the successes, continued successes, it just builds
(02:41):
on the awareness and the referrals that we get. So
we get a lot of referrals from dentists, sometimes some
oral surgeons, and we'll get people from out of state
a lot, so we deal with that too. Actually we
have a few people from Canada, which is interesting. So
the center has grown, it's grown in uh you know,
(03:03):
And I use this kind of a medium to try
and get the point across so that people are people
know it's and what I want to get across also
is I'm not trying to sell what we do. I'm
trying to make people aware and give them the choice
to understand that if they come here they are obligated
to follow what we need to do to cure you.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
Is that a big part of that cure consult is
really letting people know, like this is what I mean
this is a partnership we're going to enter into, and
you're if we're not both committed, there may be something
something different for you. And really getting people to understand
why it's so beneficial and why it's worth.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
Here here's good point, and here and here is the point.
Muscles respond to consistency. What we do is create a
measured consistent function for these muscles. What you're going to
do at home with pasture is do the same thing,
but you're also going to do it with your job,
because we'll have a measured what we call it north thought,
which fits on the lower teeth. It is measured by
(04:03):
the computer and it's precise to exactly where your jaw
needs to be at that very moment. And when you
first bite into that orthotic from what we get from
the muscle measure, that's quite literally the first time in
your life you're functioning with your job properly.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
Oh that's fast, well.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
Because you never have. I mean, this is something that
I've got thirty five years of records. Well it starts
at age five my records, but I mean that's obviously
before that that these jaw positions are wrong. So we're
correcting it and It just depends how long you go
before we gets corrected. But it can be reversed. People
(04:41):
have a lot of problems wondering, well, I'm like this now,
but how can it be reversed? Consistent function as modern
lifestyle contributed to some of this.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
I just think of like folks spending a lot of
time and off obviously being sedentary, but also like chairs
and other things people not always the most beneficial for
our spines and for our bodies.
Speaker 3 (05:05):
And and cell phones and.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
Let's talk about them. Yeah, of course is real, is
what you're saying.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
Well, because you know people are hunched over their phones
or their games or their electronics. I mean when I
grew up again a thousand years ago, we were outside
all the time on bikes. Now, if you still had
TMJ at that point a thousand years ago, you're still
going to have it. It's just that it's it's just
going to progress, maybe a little slower. But the whole
point is you have to respect muscle, you have to
(05:32):
respect the whole body. You have to respect the breathing.
It's all the swallowing. All of those kinds of things
are dependent on your job properly functioning. So people that
clear their throat. A lot have trouble swallowing pills, that
might cough when they when they eat, because they they
might feel like they're choking. That's all muscle dysfunction and
(05:54):
it and and that needs to be changed. And we
see that a lot.
Speaker 2 (05:58):
You mentioned.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
You mentioned you know, like you're drinking and you know
kind of those type of noise.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
Is that what we're talking about here?
Speaker 1 (06:04):
Yes, So if you've got somebody in your life like that,
I think a lot of times you'd think, oh, it
must be or if that's you. I think a lot
of folks just assume, oh, I've got maybe a sore
or scratchy throat or something like that.
Speaker 3 (06:14):
Well you can think that. I can segue to a story.
I was treating a lady for TMJ and like like
I explained to everybody, this is genetic. It's in your family.
And do you have any kids? And she said absolutely,
And she said I want to bring my son in.
And he was in his teens, middle teens and a
big kid. And he came in and I said, so
(06:35):
what's going on? And she goes listen to him, and
he just kept clearing his throat, clearing his throat. So
I know what that is. It's the hy eoid bone,
it's the throat, it's the job being in the wrong place.
I'm not going to tell him that. I'm going to
ask him first of all, can you swallow a pill?
He said, not without difficulty. Do you have any problems
chewing and swallowing? Yes, he had some problems. Putting him
(06:58):
on the computer illustrated the fact that his muscles were dysfunctional,
and they were. They were weak, big, strong kid, but
the massa, which is the most powerful muscle in your jaw,
was not functioning properly and throwing everything off. And so
Mom just looked at me and she realized that he
needed to come in for treatment.
Speaker 1 (07:16):
Talking this morning with doctor Paul and Seleara, he is
with the TMJ Pain Center online Tmjpaincenter dot com. That's
Tmjpaincenter dot com. As you illustrate with that story. And
I know last week you mentioned too, I think a
lot of us I am in this this group often
think TMJ or sleep apnea. We think older people, we
think as adults. Demographically, it's it's across the board. Asn't
(07:38):
these issues affect everyone well.
Speaker 3 (07:40):
The snoring can become sleep apne because you're progressing in
a dysfunctional manner and your head's coming forward more and
everything's getting worse more because every day you're not doing
anything to correct it. So that's why they're saying by
you know, the the the age groups, like like with
men and women in their middle ages, they tend to
(08:00):
need to you know, help just to breathe. But had
we cleaned that up be prior, they wouldn't be in
that position or even now when they come in. Can
we reverse that? Well, yeah, because that's what TMJ is.
I don't give people sleep appliances right away until and
maybe not not they might not need it. When we
(08:22):
pay open up the wind pipe and open up the
posture via the bite and posture, because that makes the
windpipe more patent and open and receptive. And of course
we'll test all that with sleep tests and airway tests
and things like that, so to make sure we're doing
the right thing.
Speaker 1 (08:37):
You know, And a previous show you would kind of
alluded to like that that snoring is serious, is I
think sometimes we overlook snoring as almost comical as is
almost like especially you know dad or grandpa, after you know,
it just got done with Thanksgiving as we look towards
the holidays, and uh, it's it's just something something that
happens that's just not true.
Speaker 4 (08:58):
Is it.
Speaker 3 (08:59):
Snoring is is just a warning that it's going to
get worse. And again, snoring means interrupted oxygen flow. Your
brain doesn't like interrupted oxygen flow, so it's going to
tell the heart why don't you start beating a little harder,
And the heart, of course is going to go on
flight or flight response. And maybe when you're doing it
(09:19):
all the time, that's where your systems break down over time.
So that's why you know cardiovascular stuff can happen as
you get older. And of course your posture gets worse
because you didn't change the byte position and it keeps
the head forward, so you're not diaphragm breathing. You're open
mouth breathing, which doesn't give you ninety eight percent oxygen.
Speaker 1 (09:42):
So and doctor, when you talk to about the system
breaking down, I feel like kind of a running heart.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it really seems like
and I think of other practice, medical practices, other things
out there, they seem very focused on one specific area.
As you start talking about systems and body.
Speaker 2 (10:03):
As a whole.
Speaker 1 (10:04):
It seems to me that that really what you're addressing
at the TMJ Pain Center is really it's that holistic body,
not just oh you've got to you know, you've got
to an issue. You know, we'll use like a like
a doctor. I broke my thumb. Well we're gonna put
a splint on, and everything's going to be good. You're
really looking at, well, why does this stuff happen? How
do these issues have and really treating the whole, the
(10:26):
entire problem, not just isolating.
Speaker 3 (10:28):
One well, of course, because when the head comes forward,
it affects everything that the head's connected to. What is
it connected to your spine, your you know, your ribs,
your neck, your back. So the head coming forward and
the jaw which created it make a whole body situation.
So treating one part of the body only isn't that's
(10:52):
just not we're about.
Speaker 1 (10:53):
So I think of two ways, you know, as like
with men and I want to ask you about this.
Men's neck, you know, tend to they kind of connect
closer to our ears where you think of women's next
being much more kind of in more not so not
so okay, I'm just thinking back to back to arts and.
Speaker 3 (11:10):
A well, yeah, I mean you get the jolly people
and men to sometimes cover their jowls with a beard.
Speaker 2 (11:17):
We could go about that, ye so. Or a go tee.
Speaker 3 (11:22):
I had a guy from Alaska that when he came
in and I said, so tell me about why you
have this go tea and he goes, doctor truthful. When
I try to chew, it looks like I have no
lips or teeth because I have no.
Speaker 2 (11:36):
Face height interest.
Speaker 3 (11:38):
So he grew the goatee to kind of offset it
and camouflage it. When we were done, he didn't need
to do that anymore.
Speaker 2 (11:43):
Of course, did you go clear, clean, shaven?
Speaker 3 (11:45):
Actually a mustache?
Speaker 1 (11:49):
Talking this morning with doctor Paul in Silaria. He is
with the TMJ Pain Center online tmjpaincenter dot com. It's
always fascinating talking with the doctor. You learn some really
really good stuff. It's also really important. And as we
talk with the doctor about about some of the signs
of TMJ and other things that can be affecting your health,
he makes it real easy and it's a real nice
opportunity for you to learn more. Is by scheduling that
(12:10):
free consultation that cure console I'll got to do his
head on over to the website Tmjpaincenter dot com. That's
Tmjpaincenter dot com. You can schedule an appointment right online.
Speaker 2 (12:20):
Of course.
Speaker 1 (12:20):
The clinic right on Century abb and Middleton really easy
to get to at sixty four or five Century Avenue,
and you can learn more online and schedule that consultation
right at TMJ Paincenter dot com. We're going to continue
our conversation with doctor Paul.
Speaker 2 (12:33):
We will do that.
Speaker 1 (12:34):
Next has asked the experts with tmjsleep Center. I'm going
to ask you about that sleep board in just a
moment here on thirteen ten double U I B A
thirteen ten W I B A and ask the experts
frought to you by TMJ and sleep Center online Tmjpaincenter
dot com. That's Tmjpaincenter dot com. Talking this morning with
(12:54):
doctor Paul Incelera. Of course he is with the TMJ
Pain Center. Don't forget a great opportunity for you to
schedule at free consultation that dot free cure consult I'll
give us. Head on over to the website Tmjpaincenter dot com.
That's TMJ Paincenter dot com. The clinic right on CenTra
Avenue in Middleton and International destination I've learned, doctor and
(13:16):
Clara lucky enough to have it right here in our
very own backyard.
Speaker 2 (13:20):
Don't forget.
Speaker 1 (13:20):
If you miss any part of the program, you can
always listen back at tmjpaincenter dot com. Also available on
the app and all the popular podcast platforms as well.
A lot of great information there. And Doctor, we talk
about TMJ Pain Center, TMJ Sleep Center as well. Let's
talk about the sleep aspect of this is when it
comes to when it comes to storing, when it comes
(13:42):
to breathing issues, they really affect a quality of sleep, relaxation,
and obviously overall health. Let's talk about that Sleep center
aspect of what you do, doctor.
Speaker 3 (13:53):
Well, we want to create function, and function is where
it's at because people that are coming in don't have
the muscle function in their head and neck, shoulders and back,
and the jaw is in the wrong place. Like we
talked about, now, can we document that position. We always
document that position before we even do anything. And from
the cure consult we can go to a TMJ exam.
(14:15):
That's a little different because there's some payment required there,
but what we're doing is documenting exactly what the cure
Consult's talking about So it's almost like solving a geometry
problem if you ever remember geometry painfully when you wanted
to solve a problem, it's a step by step. One
step it supports the other. Well, that's kind of how
(14:35):
we go so as we go forward with our documentation,
it will support what we need to show you and illustrate.
We always we don't not show what we're doing. You're
always in the know of what we're doing. And I'm
always talking. So the girls are sometimes saying doctor, and
(14:56):
Hilaria's talking too much, but you know, sometimes you need
to do that to clarify things.
Speaker 1 (15:00):
It's it's and we think about too about our our
our our well being and our our physical health. You're
really and I really respect that that you share the
information with people. Is it's not just like trust me,
I'm going to do it and you're gonna feel fine.
I think one of the things that that's really impressive
about the work that you do and the kind of
person you are, doctor, is you you not only do
(15:20):
you do the you walk the walk, but you talk talk.
You really help people understand what it is you're doing,
and it really helps them understand and and and and
wrap their head around.
Speaker 2 (15:30):
Why it's so successful.
Speaker 3 (15:31):
Absolutely well, we rely on a lot of visuals and
the visuals are our documentation, so that'll that'll show up.
Like I were talking about before and after X rays,
unbelievable changes you know that you can see in the
neck and shoulders and and and jaw based based on
the fact that the jaw is now in the best
position possible. But it's contributing to the next shoulders and
(15:53):
back and wind pipe five thousand times a day. So
that's a lot of function. But that's how things get
done because it was the reverse before you came here.
Speaker 1 (16:05):
I want to ask you about the windpipe in its
structure and what a perfect wind pipe looks like and
what a what an affected wind pipe looks like. I
want to ask you about that in just a moment.
In the meantime, though, if you haven't had a chance,
check out the website Tmjpaincenter dot com. That's TMJ Paincenter
dot com. You can get that cure concelt scheduled right online.
That's going to be free to you and you can
(16:25):
schedule a consultation right at tmjpaincenter dot com. Let's talk
about windpipes have come up your windpipees come es, what
is a a perfect wind pipe looked like one that's
been affected?
Speaker 2 (16:35):
And how can you restore well?
Speaker 3 (16:37):
I I okay, I brought to the office to toilet
tissue with any toilet tissue on it tubes the cardboard,
the cardboard, Yeah, and one of them is perfectly round
and beautiful, and the other one I kinked. Okay, So
when you kink it, what's kinking it? Imperfect jaw position
creating muscle collapse and and windpipe collapse, and imperfect posture
(17:01):
position forward head creating the collapse of the back of
the windpipe. So that reduces the patency and the airway.
So it's kind of like your airway is now maybe
like a straw's with or circumference, where we really want
a garden hose. So how do we get the garden hose? Well,
what's making the straw muscle that's not happy, And it's
(17:21):
not happy when a twenty or thirty pound head is forward,
and it's not happy when you're dysfunctioning five thousand times
a day into your face and all those muscles that
you're dysfunctioning with are connected to your wind pipe. So
we want to create and reverse that to create the patency,
and that's what we do.
Speaker 1 (17:38):
Does some of that relate to snoring as well? I mean,
of course, okay, like like what's going on in there?
Speaker 3 (17:44):
That's well, we crimped that wind pipe and now you're
habituating the airway. Habituation is small. People open their mouths
and that's all you need to know. Because we can't
have mouth breathing. We have special exercises we devote to
people and show them how to do the proper thing
(18:05):
with diaphragm breathing and nose breathing.
Speaker 1 (18:07):
See, I know what it's amazing to what you're doing
for patients. What's it like for you when you get
a patient that, after working with you, is starting to
feel those results? And I mean, that's got to be
so rewarding and what what a what you know, you
think about feeling good every morning and knowing that your
day is going to be amazing, having that opportunity to
see day in and day out people feeling these results
(18:29):
and really life changing results. What's that like for you
to experience that day?
Speaker 2 (18:32):
Everyone?
Speaker 3 (18:33):
Well, it's it's a great feeling. I mean, I don't
know of a better feeling. And that keeps us motivated.
So the staff understands it. I understand it. I mean,
like I said before, we have people that come in
when we talk about their symptomology, they'll start crying and say,
nobody's ever told me this before, but this is you're
you're hitting all the buttons. And then through that function,
(18:58):
those buttons, of course are cleaned up as the posture
gets better and the bit gets better, and the things
that they came in for, they they don't have anymore.
Speaker 2 (19:07):
So you mentioned to the staff and the folks around
you too.
Speaker 1 (19:10):
I we talk about and as I mentioned, I had
a chance to come in and visit, and I hope
everybody takes the opportunity to do that cure consult and
take that free consultation. One of the things that also
really impressed me was the team of folks that work
with you. Very personal, very informative, really friendly. That's also
a kind of another special aspect of the clinic, isn't it.
Speaker 3 (19:33):
They they, Yeah, the girls are great. We're not a
big clinic, but we're we're friendly and personal. Look, we're
gonna we're gonna be seeing you a little while. Because
it's a transition through time to get you better, and
it's nice. We get to know the know the person
a bit, they get to know us a bit. And
the girls are very schooled. Didn't want to do and
(19:53):
they've walked the walk. Everyone in our office has been
treated for tmj Oh really yep. Well, and Portany's right,
they are now being treated. She's at the tail end
of it.
Speaker 1 (20:03):
That is absolutely fantastic. So not only not only are
they are they employees or clients as well.
Speaker 3 (20:08):
I guess, yeah, and yeah, that's the way it works.
So they understand full well. They can empathize when they
have to, but they also know that we have our
rules and regulations as to how to get better. And
every month we check on you. Every month we adjust
appliances because see when you first bite into the into
(20:32):
the measured orthotic, like I said, it's the first time
you're functional. But because you're functional, the muscles do what
they change. They change because they're getting better. But as
they change, we can see the change on the orthotic
in the bite. So the bite changes. As the bite changes,
every month we adjust for it. And we're also looking
at posture because as the bite changes and posture gets better,
it all coincides with one another.
Speaker 1 (20:54):
They interlock absolutely fascinating. What what a great as we
talked this morning with doctor Paul and Selearra of TMJ
Pain and Sleep Center. What a great day to start
that journey. And of course get in and make doctor
makes it really easy to do. Set up that consultation
right online, that care consult It's not going to cost
you anything for the consultation. And what a change you
can see and again some great opportunities for you. Again,
(21:16):
all you got to do is take that first step,
head on over to Tmjpaincenter dot com. That's tmjpaincenter dot.
Speaker 2 (21:23):
Com, all one word.
Speaker 1 (21:24):
You can learn more about the clinic and of course
schedule that care console right online. Doctor and SELEARA, it's
always great seeing you have a fantastic day. You make
this too easy and.
Speaker 2 (21:33):
Always so much fun. Thanks, oh, thank you so much.
Speaker 1 (21:36):
And we've got news coming your way next right here
on thirteen ten.
Speaker 2 (21:39):
Double You IV
