as well. Their telephone number six eight five three five
forty three forty three. That's five three five forty three
forty three, and their man with the Plan, mister Andrew Larson,
joins us this morning. Andrew, how you doing this week?

Speaker 2 (00:34):
Good?

Speaker 3 (00:35):
I would not go so far as to say I
have a plan. I'm pretty good at winging things.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
Yeah, you've got you've got a great team around you
to uh to do that. Yes, and that's uh. We're
going to talk this week about about roofing, but specifically
roofing systems. And this was something that as a homeowner
I had learned that there is a difference between just
having putting a new roof on and actually having a

(01:03):
roof system. And the other thing that I know about you, Andrew,
is you are not one to sit still. You're not
one just to simply be satisfied. You're always looking for
for improvements, better options, and and better things for folks,
and when it comes to roofing, that is definitely. I
know you've got you've got some other areas that you're

(01:24):
passionate about, but it seems to me that that roofing
seems to be the most near and dear to your heart.
Let's talk a little bit about some of the options
with largstome services and specifically when we talk about about
roofing roofing systems and something new on that on that front,
isn't there Andrew.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
Well, you know there is, and it's it's not something
like mind blowing and some sort of new product.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
But you know, here's the thing.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
Being in this business for as many years as I have,
when it comes to residential roofing, asphalt roofing.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
Is where it is.

Speaker 3 (02:01):
It's where it is where we live, or all over
the United States for that matter. I have been to
other countries and not a lot of asphalt roofs are
put on anywhere else in the world. They really look
to products that last a lot longer, and I would

(02:23):
say just doing asphalt, I almost just call them replacement roofs.
We're always trying to do something better or do it
the best way that we possibly can, because you know, honestly,
I hate it when we put a roof on and

(02:43):
a couple of years later it gets hit with hail
or something like that, it has to be replaced. We
tear them off, we throw them in a landfill, redo it.
There's a lot of a lot of contractors out there
that love that. It's like guaranteed repeat business. So what
we've done is we've really tried to make this something proprietary.
When it comes to our roofing system and the Ultimate

(03:05):
Roofing Solution by Larson and Larson Kini Home Services.

Speaker 2 (03:10):
Is something that.

Speaker 3 (03:12):
Over the past fifteen to twenty years, we've looked at
the way things are done. We've looked at the way
roofing manufacturers require, require re sorry require their roofs to
be done. We've also looked at the way the codes
are written. And we've heard this time and time again,
like you know, we had our roof done and it's

(03:32):
leaking and it was all done to code. Okay, well,
we can talk about codes. I mean codes to me,
for the most part, when it comes to stuff like roofing,
are almost bare minimum. It's like bare minimum way it
should be done. Hopefully it works out. I'm take it.

(03:52):
Where we live, for instance, we have we have temperatures
that get up to one hundred degrees, temperatures that get
down to thirty below, and if.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
Your roof is over a six pitch.

Speaker 3 (04:04):
Technically, by code you don't even have to have an
ice and water.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
On your roof, which is insane to me. No ice
and water in the valley, no ice and water at
the eaves.

Speaker 3 (04:14):
There are actually builders out there that will specifically build
their homes to those specifications just so they can put
the cheapest roof possible on and have it be too
quote unquote code.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
Well, that's not acceptable for us because.

Speaker 3 (04:33):
Even though our GAF Golden Pledge roof warranties come with
a fifty year non pro rated warranty on it, the
worst warranty that you have to use, or the worst
warranty you can get, is one that you have to
use because we know that if you have to use
that warranty, your roof leaked. So we've put together a
roofing system and we have named it the Ultimate Roofing Solution,

(04:56):
and it is done and honestly usually I share every
everything on here. I don't really want to share.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
Exactly how it's done, you know, for obvious reasons. It
is proprietary.

Speaker 3 (05:08):
But what I can tell you is this, we use
the best products that we can use, done in the
best way, and we use certain products. Remember I always
talk about it doesn't matter what shingles you use, it
can be the best shingles in the world. But if
the critical details aren't done properly, the roof of leak.

(05:28):
That's why we have homeowners to say, well, no, I
talked to another roofer and he said, you can just
go over these shingles.

Speaker 2 (05:33):
Well, sure, you can go over those.

Speaker 3 (05:35):
Shingles, but then you can't actually do the critical details.
You can't replace pipe boots properly. You can't do your
step flashings, your roof to wall flashings, your chimney fly
you can't do all that stuff properly when you go
over shingles. So, no matter what, a roof should always
be torn down to the decking, so everything can be
inspected and done properly from start to finish.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
Out.

Speaker 3 (06:00):
With our ultimate roofing solution, we're going to use probably
more ice and water than any other roofer would ever
imagine to use. But that's because we've been doing this
long enough where we know where leak points are and
we know where problems can arise, so we're going to

(06:20):
do It's it's like, quote unquote, our roofing valleys are
like a roofing valley on on crack.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
I don't know if that's the right term to use
right here, but like let's say, yeah, yeah, crack bad.
Crack is bad, but it's it's on steroids. Is it overkilled? Possibly?

Speaker 3 (06:43):
But if you think about it, a valley is where
two roofs converge or two roofing planes converge, and then
all of that water comes down that area. It's almost
like a gutter for your roof and water will sit there,
tree debris will sit there, the leaves, the sticks, the ice,
the snow, everything builds up there, and when that happens,

(07:03):
it can leak. I mean, I would say probably seventy
five percent of the roofs that we replace have some
sort of underlayment or not underlayment, but decking damage in
the valleys because they've leaked and nobody even knew they leaked.
Over time they leaked, they wet they're dry now, the
wood is rotten. Eventually it will start leaking through. One

(07:26):
of my first home that I bought down here in
the Madison area. We tore that roof off and I
had holes in my valley, and I had no idea.
Then I get in the attic and all the insulations wet,
but I had no idea that was eventually going.

Speaker 2 (07:40):
To start causing a really bad problem.

Speaker 3 (07:41):
So with our ultimate rooving solution, valleys are done the
best way they can possibly be done. Now, that adds
cost to the job, but for us it adds peace
of mind. We're going to use more ice and water
at the eaves and on the rakes than anybody else will,
and the best underlayd it's possible.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
So also with an.

Speaker 3 (08:03):
Ultimate roofing solution, we're not going to use a throwaway shingle.
We are going to use a Class four impact rated shingle.
So when these storms come through, you're most likely not
going to have anything to worry about. There's nothing that
made me feel better than when the hailstorms came through
your area where you lived earlier this year. I can't
tell you how many roof inspections that we went back

(08:25):
to for our past customers, and they had no damage,
and every single roof around them was getting replaced. And
this is what I can tell you, and I've talked
about this before when it comes to insurance nowadays, it's honestly,
it's a coin flip. It is a coin flip on
whether or not they're going to approve your whole roof,
half your roof, part of your roof. Maybe you don't

(08:47):
have recoverable depreciation anymore, which you didn't know about. So
let's say you're twenty thousand dollars roof they deemed to
be half half done. Okay, well, now they're going to
give you ten Well, now take out your which is
anywhere nowadays from one thousand to three thousand dollars sometimes more.
Now maybe you're left with seven or eight thousand dollars

(09:08):
to replace your twenty thousand dollars roof. And if you
don't spend that extra ten to twelve thousand dollars out
of pocket to replace it, your insurance company will drop you.
And now you're not gonna be able to get another one.
So the whole the days of just getting hail damage
and getting a.

Speaker 2 (09:23):
Roof, those are done.

Speaker 3 (09:24):
So what we're trying to do is do the best
roof that we can with the best shingles we can,
so that when stuff like this happens, there's no issue
and we can just come hopefully come now.

Speaker 2 (09:35):
Listen.

Speaker 3 (09:36):
It's we've spent a lot of time, a lot of
window or windshield time, going back and inspecting these roofs,
but there's just nothing better than when our reps go, yep,
another roof inspection.

Speaker 2 (09:45):
No damage, all good, and then yeah, that's what we want.

Speaker 1 (09:49):
One of the things too, is we talk about you mentioned,
you know, insurance companies, and obviously they're they're not in
you know, they don't build those beautiful buildings for free.
There's a reason why is they are very guarded and
very cautious with what they're going to pay, and we
can save our personal feelings. Sometimes industry, we probably do
a whole show on it. But one of the things

(10:09):
that I've noticed around town is for folks that have
had to do insurance claims that didn't have those warranties,
their insurance company is just saying, you know what, we're
paying this and then we're done. You're dropped, and it's
it's for a lot of folks. That's going to be
as they look for new insurance and they see that
your last insurance was dropped because they had to pay
for a new roof. Well, I guess what your premiums
are going to look like. They're going to be quite hefty.

(10:30):
So we talk about some of the great things in
peace of mind. You talk about, you know, that ultimate
roofing solution. You talk about the work that you guys
