going on with with Rock Realty. We'll get to those

(00:22):
Favorite guy this morning, favorite matt of the day, Matt Heman, Rockrealty.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
Favorite man of Tuesday morning at eight, And you're a
Matthew right mad or Matthew mad or Matthew I'm in trouble?
Speaker 1 (00:35):
Does now obviously your parents? Does your wife ever say Matthew?
Speaker 3 (00:39):
No? Actually no, clearly you get it's usually four letter words. No,
I'm kidding, she's no. I know well I oh no,
I wouldn't fault her. It's good to see you.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
We've got we're going to talk some really fun stuff
this week. As a matter of fact, you brought along
a guest this morning, didn't you.
Speaker 3 (01:00):
I did.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
We're gonna introduce everybody to Avery Lions and he's with
a company that we recently partnered with and we're excited
to you know, share them with everybody around the Madison
area what they do.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
And that's totally spaced out. Oh, very cool, Avery, Welcome
to the show.
Speaker 4 (01:17):
Yeah, thanks for having me, glad to be here.
Speaker 3 (01:19):
Good to see you.
Speaker 1 (01:20):
Let's really quickly kind of big picture stuff when it
comes to totally spaced out, what is totally spaced out
and what's kind of the background story to it.
Speaker 3 (01:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:29):
So we are a portable storage company. We're located in Edgerton, Wisconsin.
What we do is we kind of do all the
background logistics for moving in storage. We offer sixteen and
twenty foot portable storage containers as well as twenty four
foot logistics trailers. We work a lot with commercial companies,
restoration companies, and realtors. Thanks, we're here with Matt.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
I think we're probably gonna make that connection too real quick,
just before we kind of get into the real estate
angle of it. I do want to ask about like,
and I know, Matt, you do a lot of work
with commercial purchases and other things too, but the commercial side,
I don't know that people always understand that as well.
That's another big thing is like logistically getting things either
(02:12):
stored or moved. You guys can help folks with that,
can't you.
Speaker 4 (02:15):
Yeah, And what's unique about the portable storage realm is
our containers can be placed and you can kind of
move at your own pace. You don't have to get
a rental truck for one day or two days. So
it's really beneficial for that.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
Did you get folks doing, like maybe a business remodel
that are saying, we just need to get this place
cleared out while we do like a significant remodel, We're
gonna clear it out, do the remodel, and then clean
it back in.
Speaker 4 (02:40):
Yeah, we see a lot of that. What we also
offer for this too is if say this business remodel
needs the containers off site, we can store these down
and entertin at our location and then bring it back
to the business when the remodel is done. So we
offer on site and off site storage.
Speaker 3 (02:57):
That is great.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
That is really good to hear talking this morning with that.
Heypmen of Rock Realty and Avery Lions, owner operations manager
at Totally spaced Out. He can learn more about Totally
spaced Out on their website. I'll give you a guess
what it is. Totally spaced out dot com. It's totally
spaced out dot com all one word. Let's talk about
the real estate side of this, and Matt, I'll bring
you in. Obviously, when folks are are looking to move,
(03:22):
it doesn't just happen like that. You'd like it to
have a little bit of time to get the move
and done. And what a great resource this is.
Speaker 2 (03:31):
Yeah, when moving's involved, it's rarely a well oiled machine.
Speaker 3 (03:35):
Yes, right, So you have.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
The logistics of obviously getting all your stuff out of
the house, you know, obtaining a way to not only
you know, move the items, but you know you're renting
a truck, you're and then you're normally you're getting too
small of a truck. Yes, you've got the truck filled.
You're heading to the closing table. I don't know how
many times, you know, either I or the agents are firm.
Speaker 5 (04:00):
You know, we look out the window at the closing
table and we see this, you know.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
The U haul right there in the parking lot, and
everybody's waiting to get those keys and going straight over there.
So it can be a nightmare logistically, And that's why
I'm really excited about totally.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
Spaced out I think it's just the uh it's the perfect.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
Solution for things like closings and moving and just takes
one of those headache points out of the transaction, I think,
and just makes it a lot easier.
Speaker 3 (04:27):
That Gramma zatic area clear it fills up really fast. Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
So, Avery, let let's talk about kind of your area
that you guys serve. I'm gonna guess if people can
hear our voices this morning, you guys are available, aren't.
Speaker 3 (04:40):
You we are?
Speaker 4 (04:41):
Yeah, we service all of Dane and Rock County, but
really all of Wisconsin. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
Have you had folks that are saying, you know, maybe
we're moving a longer distance, we're moving to Minnesota for example,
or northern Illinois. Is that an option or are you
guys really focused in kind of on that on that
Rock Dane County area.
Speaker 4 (04:58):
Yeah, it's definitely an option. Obviously the pricing changes if
we're going out of state, but definitely really focused on
the Dane in Rock County. I've done some in northern
Illinois as well, so yeah, yeah, whatever whatever's out there.
Speaker 5 (05:14):
I think your normal service radius is what like thirty
miles or thirty.
Speaker 3 (05:17):
Five miles something like that.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
Yeah, thirty miles, but you're willing to go outside of that,
and it's just a kind of a custom quote yep, okay, and.
Speaker 3 (05:23):
You can get a quote right online, right, totally spaced.
Speaker 4 (05:25):
Out then, yeah, you can go online.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
The nice website.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
Yeah, it's got that. It's got a similar feel and
flow to other websites I've been just a touch. Yeah,
it's really really nifty. Again the website totally spaced out
dot com. I was gonna ask you to avery about
about kind of the containers themselves.
Speaker 3 (05:44):
Is is it just a box? Are they like? How
does that? What? I mean?
Speaker 1 (05:49):
What I guess again, my my vision is it's like
a truck trailer you opener up and throw your stuff in.
Or is there something different or eak or how do
they work?
Speaker 4 (05:56):
Yeah? So they are made of steel. Actually, the floors
are kind of a nice wooden feel to them, very
durable wood though. Can the containers can hold up to
I want to say it's eighty five hundred pounds, so
they can hold wait, yeah, and we can move them
just about anywhere. The doors though, they're actually hinged to doors,
(06:22):
so they're not sliding actually pull open doors, which is nice.
And they have locks on each side, open from one side,
and yeah, each container comes with a lock.
Speaker 1 (06:33):
It's justing when you mentioned that the doors, and people
are like, why does that matter? If you think of
like a sliding door, the sliding door goes up and
it goes in, which means you lose that space, whereas
if it's an open and out you've now got you
could maximize that space. How long are there are there
contracts for like storage? Like, how folks, can can you
do six months? Could I do a year? If if
it's if let's say I took a job, you know,
(06:56):
working overseas, and I'm going to be gone for a
year and I'm not going to pay for an apartment
or a house here in the States, Could I, in theory,
load one of these things up, store it for a year,
and come back and pick it up.
Speaker 3 (07:07):
Do you guys have that option?
Speaker 4 (07:08):
Yeah, we sure do. We actually have a few on
site right now that people are gone for a year.
They live in Florida and they leave their stuff with us.
But our contracts are month to month contracts, so if
things were to change.
Speaker 3 (07:21):
You could make it.
Speaker 4 (07:22):
Oh really, which is nice.
Speaker 3 (07:24):
That's pretty impressive. Matt.
Speaker 1 (07:26):
Let's talk then about you and I actually hung out yesterday,
which was which is cool to see you, by the way,
good to see you again, And we started talking about
about what Avery is doing, and it's a really good
for real estate. Something that you guys obviously encounter is
logistics of making that process move smoothly with move in,
(07:47):
move out, and move in totally spaced out. Is really
something that works perfectly for what you guys do, doesn't it.
Speaker 3 (07:55):
Yeah, I agree. I love that they're a local company,
locally owned.
Speaker 2 (07:59):
I think it's pretty neat that they can, you know,
whether they're dropping off on your driveway or even if
you have a better spot that's secure, like in your
yard or maybe off to the side of the house.
They're very flexible when it comes to that, you know.
There was there's just a lot to like, you know,
including the fact that when they load noneloaded it stays level.
Speaker 3 (08:18):
They've got a whole system for that. It's really yeah,
you'll just dump it out.
Speaker 4 (08:21):
And just open the door.
Speaker 3 (08:24):
Yeah no, So yeah, they really put a lot of
thought into it.
Speaker 2 (08:28):
So, you know, after chatting with them and and thinking
more on it, we decided that we really wanted to
partner with them moving forward. And uh, we thought it
was something a service that you know, the majority of
our clients you know, would take advantage of, would appreciate.
And so yeah, we started we started a promotion with
them for future Rock Realty listings.
Speaker 4 (08:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (08:49):
No, it was just a big announcement. Has has this
gone out into the ether yet or are we announcing it?
Speaker 5 (08:53):
No, it's right now. This is uh a big deal. Yeah,
that's a big deal.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
So so yeah, moving forward, and obviously there's and conditions
that apply, but we're going to include a move from
totally spaced out with every new listing. Oh great, Yeah,
so if you sign a listing with Rock Realty, you'll
you'll be able to get a storage unit whether sixteen
or twenty foot dropped off right in your driveway. You
(09:18):
could do that right away and slowly move it in.
You could wait until it's closer to moving day, so
your house still looks a little, a little pretty impresentable
in the meantime, but up to you and then up
to two months of storage as well, all included.
Speaker 3 (09:32):
What's great about that too? In this concept?
Speaker 1 (09:34):
And Matt, I know, obviously, working day in and day
out with people moving moving is never easy and as
exciting as it is to move into a new home
and how great it's going to be, and there is
the process of doing it is never fun. The ability
to have this in your driveway and kind of do
(09:56):
it at your leisure really reduces the stress and the
you know, I think would mentioned kind of earlier about
you know, moving is never it's never a great event. Yeah,
this really makes it a much much more.
Speaker 3 (10:07):
This gives you so much flexibility.
Speaker 2 (10:08):
I mean, we have clients that well, let's say they
have a number of let's say they have a collection
of dolls, and they want to get those collection of
dolls out and in storage.
Speaker 5 (10:19):
Before they get the listing photostat right.
Speaker 2 (10:21):
So Avery can roll up, get that storage unit delivered
right away, we can put those.
Speaker 3 (10:25):
Dolls in there, and then you.
Speaker 5 (10:27):
Know, that way people aren't walking to the room and
having a bunch of eyes on the right. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (10:30):
So you know, that's just one example.
Speaker 2 (10:32):
Now there would be that let's say you're closing date
on your sale is different from your purchase. You know,
we've got clients that build a new home and let's
say the new house isn't done for a couple of months.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
Avery can totally.
Speaker 2 (10:43):
Space out I should say, could keep that store down
in the fantastic municipality of Edgeton and and then bring
it back out to him once that new build is complete.
Speaker 1 (10:53):
I have one request request though, Avery, if you do
you ever get a trailer full of Dallas storem in Stone.
Speaker 2 (11:02):
We're seeing some things this morning talking this morning with
Matt Heyman and Avery Lions.

Listings dot com. Rocklistings dot com. Talking this morning a
little bit about the partnership and why it works so
(12:36):
well having totally spaced Out when it comes to your
move and making that move smarter and easier. And Avery,
we're talking during the break about the units themselves. These
are not repurpos, these are these are brand new. These
are units that are being delivered right to you. So
for folks that are wondering he was getting some old
container that's been sailing around the world. These are very
(12:58):
as you were mentioning earlier, these are very very nice,
nice places to store your stuff.
Speaker 4 (13:02):
Yeah, these are brand new units. We actually assemble them
in house, so they come folded down on a semi truck.
We offload them with forklifts in our heavy equipment, and
then we actually assemble these containers. My business partner and
I do it all in house.
Speaker 3 (13:18):
So well, that's really it's cool to see.
Speaker 1 (13:21):
And the other question I had and I asked you
before the show, and I failed to mention that last segment,
but it's good to know you're locally owned and locally operated.
This is this isn't like you are the when it
comes totally spaced out, you are the guys.
Speaker 4 (13:34):
Yeah, we are the only totally space the only totally
spaced out in the US. So no franchise here locally
owned and operated. When you call us, you're talking to
one of the owners and.
Speaker 1 (13:45):
You were talking about getting the chance to go out,
and you know, with working with Matt and working with listings,
and for folks that are moving, you get a chance
to go out and meet with folks. And something that
I picked up on during the break, you're really happy
to see folks utilizeing utilizing your services. It's a cool relationship.
As you mentioned, locally owned, locally operated, but also you
(14:07):
getting the chance to get out and see folks when
they're when they're using these containers.
Speaker 4 (14:11):
Yeah, I mean when you're pulling up with the sixteen
or twenty foot container on a on a flatbed truck,
seeing people's face is always the greatest thing. And moving,
I mean, people usually are pretty excited about moving right
and having this solution to make moving easier always makes
them happier too.
Speaker 1 (14:28):
Very cool and Matt when we talk about he had
mentioned earlier about you know some of the some of
the self moving, you know, the the the orange trucks
that you see cruising around with this and and I've
got to guess for your agents mentioning that, hey, listen,
this is something you can you know, whether either size
(14:49):
that you're going with, This is something you can kind
of do at your leisure.
Speaker 3 (14:52):
You're not breaking your back, You're not you.
Speaker 1 (14:54):
Know, it's not like getting up right and early in
the morning and calling the calling the buddies over try
and get this stuff done. You can literally pack and
store things at your leisure leading up to the to
the closing or as I think you mentioned earlier, just
showings and other things. Is I've got to guess for
your agents as well, working with perspective home sellers, it's
(15:17):
got to be a great benefit for them to to
mention these yeah benefits.
Speaker 2 (15:21):
Having that flexibility of delivery date on the initial drop off,
I think is key to you know, if it was me,
I'd probably drop it off three to four weeks before
I actually listed the home. Yeah, take trips a couple
of handfuls at a time, you know, slowly fill it up.
Speaker 5 (15:39):
You know, it just gives you that flexibility and that comfortability.
Speaker 3 (15:42):
And you mentioned it helps quite a bit with staging.
Is kind of making that space.
Speaker 1 (15:46):
You know that I know A big, a big thing
that you guys in real estate try to do is
make you know, obviously you want to market, make sure
that the space is appealing and like it or not,
especially if you lived in your house for any amount
of time, or if you've got these things called kid's
houses tend to get cluttered with stuff, like there's never
enough places to put all the soccer and all the
(16:07):
football and all the baseball and all the all the
dancing and all these there's never enough space but stuff,
so it all kind of ends up. Having a space
to remove some of that before showing is really helpful
as well for the listing.
Speaker 2 (16:19):
Yeah, it's good to you know, free up space, make
the rooms look bigger, you know, kind of declutter, remove
some of the items that are personal, let's say, so
that the new buyers can come in and identify as
that home being there and be able to see that
without maybe the family's face is staring back at them.
Speaker 3 (16:38):
Yeah. So you know, there's a lot you can do,
especially when you have that storage unit.
Speaker 2 (16:43):
You know, typically we're telling them, well, you know, worst
case scenario, throw it in the garage.
Speaker 3 (16:47):
But now if you have the storage.
Speaker 2 (16:50):
Unit sitting there and you know, you get have a
nice free, open garage and make it look bigger, so
it helps the whole house.
Speaker 1 (16:55):
And you mentioned to you know, folks, and I think
that's kind of got the traditional wave you starre it
in garage. The one thing that you then lose is
for a lot of folks, and I know a certain
group of I don't put myself on this us. That's
one of the areas we really focus in on is
what's the garage look like? Do I have space for
both cars?
Speaker 3 (17:11):
I have space?
Speaker 1 (17:12):
And now with with this option, with this opportunity, you
can really show off all the spaces of the house.
Speaker 4 (17:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (17:17):
And I'd say it's easiest to overclutter the garage.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
Yeah, yeah, you don't have to keep that looking pretty normally, right,
so you just keep stacking.
Speaker 1 (17:27):
You know what goes in my garage, everything but the cars.
Speaker 3 (17:32):
I've got a.
Speaker 5 (17:32):
Third stall now so I can fill it up with
other stuff, right.
Speaker 1 (17:37):
Talking this morning with Matt Heyman and Avery Lyons. Of course,
Matt comes to us from Rock Realty. Check out the
website this morning. Haven't been there before. Rocklistings dot Com.
That's rocklistings dot Com. You can learn more about this
fantastic new opportunity that they have if you are listening,
if you're new listing with rock Realty and the services
of totally spaced out again all the details online rocklistings
(17:58):
dot Com.
Speaker 3 (17:58):
That's rocklistings dot Com. You gonna mention something that.
Speaker 2 (18:01):
I know on the rock listings dot Com, you know,
to start the process. So you just simply put in
your address and it'll start off giving you a free
instant home estimate.
Speaker 3 (18:10):
Oh yeah, so that's how we're starting the process. And
then we'll reach out and give you all the details
and then it goes from right.
Speaker 1 (18:15):
There is that big question folks sometimes wonder is because
I know, when we look at like, you know, there's
like some websites out there that will kind of give
you give you an estimate. Then of course we get
the get the the city, and the assessor is telling
you something else. Sure, people oftentimes kind of wonder like,
what's some more realistic value or exit realistic expectation for
(18:36):
Is that kind of one of those big challenges folks
kind of and you mentioned the benefits of going to
rock listenings dot com. It is really kind of giving
them a clear picture of what they might expect as
far as what their home value.
Speaker 3 (18:47):
Yeah, it's nice.
Speaker 2 (18:48):
I mean obviously any sort of automated answer is going
to have, you know, some errors or be off a bit, right,
So it starts off by giving you an instant value.
Then you can put in some additional details get a
more honed in price, and then if you want to,
you know, what we really think it could get in
the market. Well, we can reach out and give that
info to.
Speaker 1 (19:05):
You get that going. And with too, with real estate
and listing your home. I feel like it's sometimes underappreciated
the type of work. And I know you and I
were talking yesterday just about the things that we In
one of these upcoming shows, we're going to talk about
kind of what it's like to be a real estate
agent and the type of work that goes on stuff
(19:25):
that's not always seen. Marketing a home for listing is
is it's a really really refined skill that that really
people that know how to do it do it very well.
Like Rock Realty, we talk about, do it really well
reach the people, and it really does add a huge
value when it comes to getting that asking price or
beyond for that home, doesn't.
Speaker 3 (19:47):
Yeah, yeah, and something we can do a whole show
on right. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (19:50):
But yeah, what's neat is you know, we're trying to
hit every single type of media avenue we can to
get the listing out there, including advertising. Everybody's listing on
the radio, whether it's on on this or something else
on the iHeart conglomerate of stations.
Speaker 3 (20:04):
Right, I hear you on the app yes.
Speaker 4 (20:06):
Ye.
Speaker 5 (20:07):
We even advertise our listings on podcasts.
Speaker 1 (20:10):
Yeah, I'll be listening to like which folks that may
not know this. If you're listening, like I'll listen to
a radio show out of Los Angeles KFI. There's a
great radio station out there, guy Bill Handle. But listening
to his radio show and he'll go to commercial and
it'll be it'll be your vote.
Speaker 3 (20:25):
You can't get away from me.
Speaker 1 (20:26):
No, nothing wrong with that. Talking this morning with Matt
Heyman of Rock Realty. Of course, you can learn more
online Rock Wisconsin dot com. Also, if you're looking to
list your home, it's a really good place to start.
Rocklistings dot Com that's rocklistings dot com.
Speaker 3 (20:39):
And joining us in studio this morning is.
Speaker 1 (20:41):
The owner and operations manager at Totally spaced Out Avery Lines.
Of course, you can learn more about totally spaced Out
on their website totally spaced out dot com.
Speaker 3 (20:51):
That's totally spaced out dot com.
Speaker 1 (20:54):
As we talk to about working with folks avery and
getting to know folks, I think that what is in
interesting as well is this seems to be I think
for most people think it's not very personal talking with you.
This is a very personal thing, like the relationships and
those kind of things. I've got a guess for folks
that have had an opportunity to work with you, the
(21:14):
word of mouth and the buzz has got to be huge.
Like telling other people, Hey, I worked with avia folks
that totally spaced out. It's got to be a really
really big benefit to you and getting that word out.
Speaker 4 (21:24):
Yeah, definitely, word of mouth is definitely the growth of
our business right now, which is great. You can check
us out on Google. The reviews are great and they
get to say they worked with one of the owners,
right which is pretty cool.
Speaker 1 (21:37):
So, really, what for We've kind of started this conversation
kind of asking you about about the business and that stuff.
Speaker 3 (21:44):
What's kind of your background? Avery, as far.
Speaker 1 (21:46):
As you know, it's It's one of those areas is
like where do you come up with this kind of
concept and say, you know what, that's something I want
to do.
