Eight o nine thirteen ten WIBA and every Day Outdoor
Living brought to you by the Bruce Company Online Bruce
Coompany dot com. That's Bruce Company dot com spelled exactly
how you think at Mypeebers Company dot com. That's all
one word Facebook and social media, the Bruce Company. Great
day to get on in see the folks at the
Bruce Company. They'd love to see you right at twenty
(00:20):
eight thirty Parmenter Street. That's twenty at thirty Partment Street Street.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
Speaking of the folks the.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
Bruce Company, Lisa Briggs comes to us this morning from
the Bruce Company.
Speaker 3 (00:28):
Lisa, how you doing. I'm good now, Halloween is over, Christmas, Christmas, Christmas.
Speaker 1 (00:33):
No, and I know some statione radio stations started our Hallmark.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
I hear the Hallmark channels. We're playing their Christmas movies.
Like weeks ago.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
When you guys start playing Christmas music in the store,
When does happen? Sep open So Thursday, okay, So oh.
Speaker 3 (00:50):
Ladies, night is Thursday from three to six. Tree Walks
starts on Friday. All right, I'm sorry on Wednesday. So
after I'm done here, yeah, I have to go to
work and start turning lights on and off and get
all the trees lit up and on timers. Oh really yes,
And everybody says, well, why don't you have them lit
up earlier? And because I don't want to crawl around
(01:11):
on the floor twice, Yeah, so I wait until after
the time change. So I am on the pro side
of not doing the time change.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
Oh, you're fine, just staying where it is.
Speaker 3 (01:24):
Honestly, my life would be so much easier.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
I've always been of the opinion that it's we're off
by thirty minutes and can't admit it, Like it doesn't
matter if we just jump ahead by thirty minutes or
fall behind by thirty minutes and just lock it in.
We've we've split the difference and we're right at the
same time either side, and everything's perfect and there you go. Yeah,
you know, because then we could get everybody else, everybody.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
Everybody'd be happy, I know.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
But in the meantime, In the meantime, that's Chris.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
We decorated the last tree on Saturday. We've got some
still some stuff to do, Like there's some piles of
things here and there that we have to work our
way through. But it's looking fabulous.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
I bet I gotta get in fabulous, I gotta get
in this week.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
We'll talk about all the events coming up this week,
and of course all the great stuff going on at
the Bruce Company. Don't forget if you've got a question,
we've got a phone line for You'd love to get
you on the air at Leasta this morning. Tell phone
number six so eight three two one thirteen ten. That's
six O eight three two one thirteen ten. As we
talked about some of the events, you can get more information,
of course, on their social media pages also Bruce Company
dot com. That's Bruce Company dot com. Let's talk about
(02:23):
Ladies' Night really kicks off the whole the whole holiday season.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
Yeah. So, like I said, the tree walk starts on Wednesday,
So you get a map, you can pick your favorite trees,
your three top and then right after Thanksgiving we draw
for you know, they're tabulated. Skyler has this great Excel
(02:48):
sheet that she puts together. I can look at it
in graph form all kinds of things, but she tells
me what the which tree got the most votes, and
then from those we draw a winner. Okay, so that's
how that works, and you get one hundred dollars gift
card so exciting, and then you can spend that on
(03:09):
Christmas stuff.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
Most importantly, get great ideas as well with that too.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
And I know you do different looks for the different trees,
and you work really hard at kind of putting together
team does yeah, well yes, of course, got some great
folks work with you.
Speaker 2 (03:26):
But it is really nice for people that are like, hey, i'd.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
Love to do you know, do something different or do
something new this year, or I've been doing something for
a while. Even some really nice ideas for different ornaments
as well.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
It's kind of a great way to.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
I don't expect anybody to put large teddy bears wearing
shirp a vests and park Ranger hats in their tree
at home, but it's it'll make you smile and maybe
there's something else on that tree. And if you you
know what, if you want to put a large teddy
bear in a professed and a park Ranger hat in
(04:01):
your tree, I'm there for you. I've got that.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
Where did you find said teddy bear? Lisa? Was it?
Was it dressed that way? Or did you no?
Speaker 3 (04:11):
No, they came that way. So it's the it's the
not the first look on the map, but it's the
first tree you see when you walk in the door
because it's big and it's got lots of it's got
three thousand lights on it, so and Teddy bears. So No,
I just I like to do a few trees that
(04:33):
are unexpected. I put all kinds of things in trees,
lit up, snowflakes, little houses, lanterns. But it's just it's
just sort of meant to be inspirational. We're the I
think we're the only place left in the area that
does a Christmas display like the Bruce Company does. We're
(04:55):
super proud of it. We work really hard at it,
think about it all year round and so if you've
never been, you should come shop. It's amazing.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
And it reminds me too of like a fashion show,
and people are oftentimes like, you know, what's with some
of this, some of these unique looks at fashion shows.
It's inspiration, as you use the term, inspiration, gives you
some ideas and you can really go from there. And
with that Lisa speaking of kind of kicking things off
and working our way through the season with the Ladies
(05:26):
Night event too, then that comes up. It's kind of
that kind of grand opening to kick off to everything
what all goes on Ladies Night.
Speaker 3 (05:33):
Old Ladies' Night started twelve thirteen years ago, and so
that was when we would start. Our charitable thing was
with Ladies Knight, and we have a raffle and the
money goes to the charity. Now, for the last couple
of years, we've been collecting funds all year doing different things,
(05:55):
and this year's charitable partner is Fetch Wisconsin Rescue. So
Ladies Night there's a raffle, which is amazing. There are
over fifty prizes at last count, and I'm sure there
will be more by tomorrow. When I set the table out.
A lot of the vendors who came to our artisan
fair donated things, so there's some really cool art pieces, photographs,
(06:19):
excuse me, beautiful stained glass window kind of thing, jewelry, cookies,
all kinds of stuff. So you can participate in the
raffle five dollars a ticket or three for ten dollars.
All the proceeds go to Fetch. Oh. There will be
light refreshments. I don't know what they are, but there
(06:40):
will be life revesments and open house. Weekend traditionally has
some specials. There are some extra specials that only happen
at Ladies Night, so three to six, so it's a
good reason to come in. And it's just a really
nice crowd. Have a little cup of punch, have a
nibble of something, do some shopping, do some early Christmas shopping.
(07:04):
It's just really fun. Then Friday, Saturday and Sunday was
the traditional open house. The carrollers will be there from
Capital City Theater on Saturday, I believe from twelve thirty
to two. And on Sunday Fetch is coming and they
will be in the greenhouse with rescue dogs and puppies
and they will be there from noon until too. Wow.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
Yes, that's a lot, got a lot going on.
Speaker 3 (07:28):
Yes, I believe that some greens are coming in this
week really so not a lot, but there might be
some things outside, but basically the store is decked out.
Yes in her holiday finance. Yes, yes, And it's just fun.
You can wander through the trees, you can ask questions.
(07:49):
We visit the Great Wall of Old World Christmas.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
I was going to ask you about ornaments and Old
World Christmas. I know that obviously very popular and for
folks that don't know, you've also got a variety of
very unique and very specialized and just very very cool
ornaments and other things to add to the tree. And
one of the things that I know you've talked about
in past years, and it's such a cool tradition that
I see people doing, is you know, rather than just
(08:15):
getting like, you know, a generic kind of ornament, people
really are marking milestones, you annual yearly events with special ornaments.
And you guys at the Bruce Company, Carrie just about everything.
Speaker 3 (08:28):
Yeah, told me this weekend that she does this for
her grandson. She gets him in Orman and he's he's
a couple of years old, and she says she's never
going anywhere else again other than the old old Christmas wall.
And so we've got a couple other things that are
kicking off this week. Today starts this season's bracket challenge. Oh,
(08:49):
where we are evaluating holiday treats, oh snacks, snacks, sweet treats, cakes, cookies,
that kind of thing.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
Will there be a noog category.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
Or are no, there's not a no, it's not We're
not We're not doing beverages things. Also we are we
every year we have a theme for the holiday season.
This year is give what Matters. So times are uncertain
for everybody, so you know, so get a little something
(09:22):
to brighten somebody's day and to sort of help with that.
Every week we are doing not a flash sale, but
a special that's based on something that you would want
or you know, so not like things that we just
have hanging around. This week is the special? Are those
(09:44):
German holiday collectibles, so like spinners and that kind of stuff.
And then that starts every Friday and then runs for
a week. So if you want to know what's going
on with that, you can either join our Facebook page
because we'll do a Facebook post about it on Friday morning,
or even better, you can sign up for our newsletter
and get that information on Thursday night along with all
(10:06):
the other cool things that are in our newsletter. The
blog tells you what to do in your garden that
weekend or that week, what's going on. There's always like
a little article about something that's seasonal, list of the
coming events. There's a coupon in there, so all good
reasons to join that. And we don't send you other
(10:30):
things other than you know, like if there's a sale
or something, we'll send an e blast out with the Spadia,
but we don't use it or give it to anyone else,
so you're not going to get a bunch of spam
and nonsense from us.
Speaker 1 (10:42):
And I've been subscribed for several several years now, and
it is it is a great as you mentioned, just
kind of a really cool Yeah, it's.
Speaker 3 (10:50):
Very informational, just but it's based on what's going on
in our area, especially with the gardening tip, so that's
really fun because we can talk about you know, normally
we would have talked about putting your house plants inside
long before we needed to this year because we're paying
(11:11):
attention to that stuff.
Speaker 1 (11:12):
For you, yes, exactly. And of course you can subscribe.
You had an over to Bruce Company dot com.
Speaker 3 (11:17):
You do it their place to sign up, or next
time you're in the store, Oh yeah, when you stop
in if you're if you're in our database already, you
can have the cashier check to make sure that your
email address is in there. Or next time you shop
you can just sign up for that.
Speaker 1 (11:34):
If you're off today, get in this morning, if you
are at work, stop in for lunch, or if you
are on the on the far side of the county
you say can't do that, well, then you stop in
after work. It's a great day to get on in Middleton.
Guards of the Bruce Company twenty eight thirty part registreet.
That's twenty eight thirty Partment Street. Mentioned also the website
Bruce Company dot com. That's Bruce Company dot com facebook
(11:54):
page as well as social media. The Bruce Company was
going to ask you about your Facebook page. You've got
a a fun little picture of a squirrel doing what
squirrels like to do, snacking on a pumpkin.
Speaker 3 (12:05):
That halloweens. What happened to your pumpkins?
Speaker 2 (12:07):
Yes, that's exactly have been horrible.
Speaker 3 (12:11):
With pumpkins this year.
Speaker 2 (12:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (12:12):
Can I tell you how many they destroyed at the store?
Speaker 2 (12:16):
They got like gazillions. Oh goodness.
Speaker 3 (12:19):
We had a couple they lived in that little hut
that we have and they came out and you would
look through the window and they just be brazenly in
there and they wouldn't if they would just eat like
one a night, Yeah, that would have been one thing.
But they sampled.
Speaker 4 (12:34):
Oh yeah, it's like like with little kids and they
just like you get frosting there.
Speaker 3 (12:46):
See what's inside like that the back of the box.
Speaker 1 (12:49):
Your Valentine's date box and the kittles are there and
they Yeah, so we spend so we've spent like a
month talking about how to how to preserve our pumpkins
and gords. Let's talk about how to the best way
to handle them right now as we're.
Speaker 2 (13:05):
Critters do enjoy.
Speaker 3 (13:07):
They do, and if you carved them, or the squirrels
have carved them for you, they're probably they're not going
to last much longer. Especially what did I see later
in the week, like the highs day was that, yeah,
one of the days that the high was like thirty
or something, but not not in your forecast, but in
(13:28):
other forecasts that I looked at this morning. So they're
gonna once they're Once they're cut, they decomposed pretty quickly.
But if you did get some of the fancier, more
the winter squashes that you can't carve, that the skin
is really tough, those will last for a while yet.
So as the weather gets cooler, you can transition your
(13:49):
pots through Thanksgiving and make them look really festive with
a couple of those winter squashes, maybe some kale, You
can put some pulimonary sticks in there, and then after
Thanksgiving you can then transform, you know, sort of transform
them into winter holiday containers.
Speaker 1 (14:09):
Do you guys have cornucopias at the Brust Company? Something
I could put my gords in. As for like a
festive centerpiece.
Speaker 3 (14:15):
I do not have any. I think I have a
cornucopia ornament.
Speaker 2 (14:19):
Oh, I bet you did.
Speaker 1 (14:23):
Are pumpkins and stuff good to compost as well? Is
that something that if you've gotta I know, we're gonna
kind of late in the if your compost.
Speaker 3 (14:29):
Pile gets hot enough because of the seeds. Oh, so,
what you might end up with is a composted pumpkin.
But then next year your compost pile will turn.
Speaker 2 (14:39):
Into a pumpkin hill catch.
Speaker 3 (14:40):
Yes, so it depends on how high your compost gets. Great,
but certainly, like you said, every you know, if you've
got a little wild area in your yard, or if
you know somebody who backs up to a nature preserve
or something, just put the pumpkins out there. The creatures
will lead them.
Speaker 1 (14:58):
They're really good about finding that stuf too. They're pretty
good at yeah, seeking that stuff out. I got a question, Yeah,
just like I did for Lisa. You can call into

thirteen ten. We were watching the Yeah video. Yes, it
is so funny. It is really funny.
Speaker 3 (16:13):
Say yes. And I just texted Linda and Tom and
maybe somebody will. I don't know that they know yet
because the deadline was Friday, Okay, so I imagine the
show has to There were a number of people, a
number of companies in the Midwest, and I don't know
do they just choose one do they choose several? So
soon as I know, hopefully i'll have an answer for
(16:34):
you next week. But thank you for every to everybody
who voted for us. That was lovely and I hope
that we are featured.
Speaker 2 (16:42):
It would be awesome.
Speaker 3 (16:43):
You can see we are a snow removal company with
a sense of human Yes, he's been at three o'clock
in the.
Speaker 2 (16:51):
Morning, three am.
Speaker 3 (16:52):
Huh, they get called out. They have a sense of humor.
Speaker 2 (16:54):
I promise, And for folks that haven't had a chance
to see it.
Speaker 1 (16:58):
Even even though the the the submissions are are done,
but it's still funny to watch.
Speaker 2 (17:04):
If you had a chance.
Speaker 3 (17:05):
To watch the guys, all the guys on it are
are they're having it, clearly having a good time with it.
Linda put a lot of thought behind it. Yes, Yes,
borrowed some snow globes from the prominently featured.
Speaker 2 (17:19):
Yeah, you got a crystal ball.
Speaker 3 (17:22):
Make use of It's like a magic eight ball in
the snow. Yes, snow.
Speaker 1 (17:28):
I want to talk to you too, Lisa, about as
we get towards I know again, we're we're still uh wow.
I was going to say we're still a couple of months,
but we're literally into November, which means December is next month.
Speaker 3 (17:39):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (17:40):
One of the things I've always appreciated about the Bruce
Company is as a guy that likes to, you know,
for the special people in my life, get them something special.
I'm not always good at it. One of the things
I've always loved about getting into the Bruce Company and
doing shopping there is there's plenty of folks there that
are great to help. Like if you're like, hey, I'm
looking for something for my wife, I'm looking for something
(18:01):
for my mom, looking for something for my for my
co workers, there's always people there that are like, hey,
I've got something, something that might interest you.
Speaker 5 (18:08):
We've got all kinds of ideas, yes, from from your
BFF to your stylist, to maybe the kids bus driver,
or just for me, Yeah, the guy on our street
who every time it snows, snow blows all the sidewalks.
Speaker 1 (18:27):
Yeah, as I will speak for myself as that guy.
Speaker 2 (18:32):
Uh he loves doing it.
Speaker 3 (18:35):
Well, I'm sure he does, but it's always nice. You know,
it's snow no night, and then you lay in bed
and you hear the he was like, oh, yay, hi
snowblower man.
Speaker 1 (18:48):
Oh it's that's fun to do. But did you guys
have get to get out with the snowblower at all.
Speaker 3 (18:52):
We don't have a snowblower because our driveway literally is
the length of the truck. Okay, and you know it's
it's a sidewalk. It's not terrible.
Speaker 2 (19:01):
That's a fun activity.
Speaker 3 (19:02):
Though I hate I hate shoveling. That's Harvey's job unless
he's out of town, and then I'm just like cursing
for folks.
Speaker 1 (19:10):
That do love shoveling. Though I know we talked a
couple of weeks ago about opportunities, and I know the
Bruce Company oftentimes has opportunities for folks that like snow removal,
and yes, you might as well make.
Speaker 3 (19:20):
Some money while you're doing it. Yeah, so we've got
we've got actually opportunities in all the divisions, from retail
to snow removal to things down at sunset at the farm.
And so go to our website and click on unemployment
and put in an application.
Speaker 1 (19:41):
Fun group of people, too much fun, I think, although
it's hard, you know, obviously everything's ultimately it is, it's work.
But you talk about like a really fun atmosphere. Clients,
the people that come to the Bruce Company are there
because they want to have fun and enjoyable and the
stuff you have is oh, it's a win win all around.
Speaker 3 (20:02):
So I can you know I have the most experienced
with the store. I haven't. I have not worked for
the snow removal division.
Speaker 1 (20:09):
You know, maybe one of these mornings you and I
should know she can pre record the show live from
the road Sean and Lisa Do we go out on
a route with one of the drivers and we talk.
Speaker 2 (20:20):
About snow removal and.
Speaker 1 (20:23):
We'll fire up the coffee maker at like two am
and oh joy, yeah, exactly exactly big week at the
Bruce Company, kicking off a big, big season. Make sure
you are following along online Bruce Company dot com. That's
Bruce Company dot com. Subscribe to the newsletter right from
the website or get on into the store. You can
of course sign up there at the Milton Guards there
(20:45):
twenty at thirty partm inter Stream. That's twenty at thirty
Partment Street.
Speaker 3 (20:48):
So I, so I said, yeah, said to Tommylinda, any
word on the snow thing? Yeah, Linda says, what snow thing?
I said, the show and she says, what show fase?
Oh that face, that thing, no word.
Speaker 2 (21:01):
Yet, Okay, yes, watch it, oh that thing.
Speaker 3 (21:09):
We have all moved on.
Speaker 1 (21:12):
Its real quick as we speak of, like like just
shorter Ladies Night, Uh yeah, tree Walk.
Speaker 3 (21:17):

and ninth, Carolers on Saturday, Puppies on Sunday. My goodness,
what it's going to be a fun filled weekend.
