it gets.

Speaker 3 (00:28):
Cold chili and you can feel it.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
Yeah, just my knuckles. So yeah, So I got some
fingerless gloves.

Speaker 3 (00:34):
They're very they're very fashionable.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
They have owls on them.

Speaker 3 (00:39):
Well, good to see you, and we've got a lot
to talk about. Obviously.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
This time of year at the Bruce Company is always
busy for good reason. A lot of really cool things
going on. We'll talk with Lisa about that. Don't forget
in the meat time. You have checked out the website recently,
head on over to Brucecompany dot com. That's Bruce Company
dot com. You can also find I'm Facebook and social
media that includes Instagram and Pinterest. The Bruce Company even better.
Great day to get into the Middleton Garden Center of
the Bruce Company twenty eight to thirty parm Inter Street.

(01:04):
That's twenty eight thirty Parmenter Street. Yeah, we've got a
chance of snow coming up later this week, and we
are almost through November, and it's.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
Always I heard somebody mowing their lawn. Last night, Harvey
and I were out putting up Christmas lights. Yeah, and
I heard somebody behind us mowing their lawn, which, like, it's.

Speaker 1 (01:23):
So weird, you've got to get it done sooner, earliater.
I guess one last one, last hurrah, and you know,
we'll get into all the cool things going on at
the Bruce Company, But I want to ask you about
over the weekend because.

Speaker 3 (01:37):
Oh yeah, a little rock star and it too a
couple of little rock stars.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
Oh yeah, it was way crazier than we thought it
was going to be because the last couple of times we're
talking about the horses from Iceland we're visiting yesterday, and
the last couple of times they've been it's sort of
been a chill, kind of casual thing. They're there, people
are walking up, you know, giving them some pats or
you know, cookies or cheerios or whatever they there was,

(02:03):
and it was just really low key and then yesterday
it was crazy. Ye. So yeah, we took lots of
pictures for folks. We had lots of visitors. Hermie and
Kobe were like rock stars. I was hanging with Hermie
most of the most of the event. He's just a love.

(02:25):
He's just a nugget for sure.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
Yeah, that is fantastic, And as of course we talked
about events and stuff going out at the Bruce Company.
It is a busy time of year for you guys,
obviously kicking off a couple of weeks ago with Ladies'
Night and it just kind of runs all the way
through the holidays. It's an important time to be following online.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
Yeah, there's lots going on that. We have still a
few workshop spaces open for the decorating a tree one
and also there's a Succulent Sea of succulent made out
of sea glass kind of thing that is happening. Santamsis
Clause will be there on December one. Of course, we

(03:06):
have the Reindeer fly in the carrollers from Capital City
Theater are going to be there a few times. So
there's a ton of stuff going on. So check our
Facebook page, our website, Bruce Company dot com, slash events
and you can find out all the information.

Speaker 3 (03:22):
All sorts of great stuff.

Speaker 1 (03:23):
And again there is a lot at least to just
kind of scratched the service there of some of some
of the highlights of it.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
Yeah, and then we've got some contests going on on
Facebook right now and sort of an in store thing.
So we've started a new bracket challenge for Christmas Music.
It's just wrapping up last week, So the first heat
was last week, so you can still go and vote

(03:49):
on Saturday's post, which would be the quarterfinal between White
Christmas and My Favorite Things. Also on the weekends, if
you're in the store, make sure that you look for
our highlighted tree and write down a memory that that
tree inspires for you. And then there are prizes for
that as well.

Speaker 3 (04:09):
Oh that's fantastic.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
We're giving away some ornaments. We're gonna try to tailor
an ornament to your memory.

Speaker 3 (04:14):
So how long with the with the Christmas music? How
how many rounds are we doing on that?

Speaker 2 (04:18):
Well, there's the four heats, okay for the quarterfinals, and
then the last week will be the semi in finals.
So one week down we've got four to go, so
plenty of chances to win and the Yeah, so there
are fun prizes for the heats and the quarterfinals and

(04:39):
then gift cards at the end. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
Oh, that is definitely going to be fun and it's
always great having a chance to vote online. Of course,
you can learn more about the Bruce Company on the
website Bruce Company dot com. Social media Facebook is definitely
the place to go. Head on over to the Bruce Company.
If phone lines are open to if you've got a
question for Lisa, love to have you join us this
morning six so eight three to two one thirteen ten.
That's six so eight three two one thirteen ten. We'll
get you right on the air with Lisa Briggs from

(05:05):
the Bruce Company. And previously on Everyday Outdoor Living with
the Bruce Company. Greens had started coming in and you
and you had said we will start receiving trees soon.
What's the latest on there.

Speaker 2 (05:16):
They came in six thirty on Wednesday morning, not all
of them, but from Northern Family Farms. We work with
some uh you know, family owned tree farms in northern Wisconsin,
and so Northern Family Farms came in at six thirty
Wednesday morning and were unloaded. And usually we wouldn't start

(05:36):
to see them till this week, but they got them
processed really fast. They look great. And so there are
also trees on the lot outside, so we've got combo
pots pre made. We've got all the stuff to make
your own winter combination pots if you want to do
that yourself. There are rees and garland. I think the
reaths from Sheboygan are coming down this week, and of

(05:59):
course or still be more trees in the lot too.
It's going to be hard to find bigger trees this year,
so if you're looking for something bigger, you might want
to come in right now. The biggest we have in
the Frasers are nine to ten footers, but they look really,
really glorious.

Speaker 3 (06:17):
So what about forever trees.

Speaker 2 (06:19):
Forever trees are doing well. We still have the Galway
on special and we undecorated and redecorated two trees over
the weekend, so just stop it. Yeah, just for fun.
We get like, for the most part, like small numbers
of any specific tree. I like to have variety because

(06:42):
people have you know, they sort of respond to different
things when they're looking at forever trees, so I like
to have some different options for people. So the numbers
are kind of shallow. So two of them we have
sold out of So that's why the tree has to
get undecorated, a new guy getting and then you have
to find a replacement. So yeah, so that's always fun though.

Speaker 3 (07:06):
It's a good problem to have too.

Speaker 2 (07:07):
Yeah, it's not terrible.

Speaker 3 (07:09):
Yeah, for sure, that's a.

Speaker 1 (07:10):
Great day to get on and check out whether you're
looking for the real type, the forever type. They've got
you covered in the tree department, that is for sure
at the Bruce Company, right at the middle guard center
of the Bruce Company, twenty eight thirty Parmenter Street. That's
twenty eight thirty parment Street. If you've got questions, love
to get you on the other morning with Lisa six
eight three two one thirteen ten. That's six eight three
two one thirteen ten. We talked last week about glittering

(07:32):
what nots was kind of a kind of a theme.

Speaker 3 (07:36):
Let's talk about some of that.

Speaker 1 (07:37):
You mentioned some of the the pots and some other
other things out there, also other greenery and how about
Christmas cactus other things out.

Speaker 2 (07:45):
Of christ We do have some Christmas cactus in uh.
They started to come in last week. There's some really
nice nice colors in different sizes. We have cyclomen in
as far as point said, let's go. We've got some
little ones okay, but none of the big ones are
in yet. Maybe end of this week, early next week.

Speaker 1 (08:07):
When do we expect orders for folks that want to
do you know, like churches and other organizations.

Speaker 2 (08:11):
That stuff's already been and that's that was in. Those
were in weeks ago.

Speaker 3 (08:16):
You put a note in my calendar on that one.

Speaker 1 (08:19):
I know, I know a number of people that get
that get their their holiday points that is from the
Bruce company, and they buy in bulk.

Speaker 3 (08:25):
And I always wonder like, how far ahead did you guys?

Speaker 2 (08:27):
I think we send those letters out in August because
they're growing, you know, they're living, growing things, and so
sometimes things happen, yeah, weather wise or whatever, or shipping wise,
and and so we try to cover all those bases
ahead of time, so we know what we're looking for

(08:49):
ahead of time.

Speaker 1 (08:52):
And there are if you're looking for just the regular
one you guys got to have.

Speaker 2 (08:57):
Yeah, there's some small like red ones, but the glittered
one aren't in yet, and neither are anything of you know,
any like anything bigger than like a four inch Okay,
but that should all that stuff should be coming soon,
so it's yeah, it's why it feels weird to have
trees up this early. We usually don't get trees on

(09:17):
the lot until the week before Thanksgiving, but Thanksgiving is
as late as it can be this year, so we've
got sort of an extra week in November.

Speaker 1 (09:27):
Nothing wrong with that, Nothing wrong with that, just makes
things a little a little different.

Speaker 2 (09:31):
Yeah, So it's just it's just just sort of a
little bit off.

Speaker 1 (09:34):
What about ornaments that I was I was at the
website the other day, maybe you've been this morning, and
I saw these ornaments. They looked like little like pink
martini Martini glass.

Speaker 2 (09:46):
Oh there's a contail tree.

Speaker 3 (09:48):
Yeah, yes, very very cool stuff.

Speaker 1 (09:51):
And I know we talk in the weeks leading up
to November and into early November about all the different
ornaments at the Bruce Company. And that's one of the
those areas where for folks looking for that really special
memorable I know that's a tradition for a lot of
people get get a kind of one to mark each year.
You guys still have a great assortment.

Speaker 2 (10:09):
Oh yeah, yes, the old world wall is still full
and the trees all look really great. Other than the
fact that we've had to like take out the tree
of the equation. So there's yeah, there's tons to shoes.

Speaker 1 (10:24):
From fantastic check those out Bruce Company right at the
middle of the guard center of Bruce Company, twenty eight
thirty parm Interis Street. That's twenty eight thirty parm Interistreet.
Great time. Also, if you've got a question, love to
have join us six eight three two one thirteen ten.
That's six oh eight three two one thirteen ten. We'll
talk about some of the other happenings at the Bruce Company.
We'll also talk about gifting from the Bruce Company, and
we'll do that so much more as Everyday Outdoor Living

(10:45):
with the Bruce Company continues next right here on thirteen
ten to Wuiba A twenty two thirteen ten Wiba and
every Day Outdoor Living brought to you by the Bruce
Company Online Brucecompany dot com. That's Bruce Company dot com.
Book on social media, the Bruce Company, Good Data follow
along if you have not followed, liked, done all those

(11:06):
great things on social media for the Bruce Company, good
day to do that. So much goes on these next
couple of months that you really want to stay up
to date. It's a great place to do. It is
on social media platforms. Also follow along Bruce Company dot com.
That's Bruce Company dot com. Great day to get on in.
They'd love to see you right at the Middleton Garden
center of the Bruce Company. That's a twenty eight thirty
Parmenter Street. That's twenty eight thirty Partment Street. And if

(11:28):
you've got a question, we've got Lisa here for you all.
I got to pick up phone gifts call six oh
eight three two one thirteen ten. That's six soh eight
three two one thirteen ten. As you as you mentioned earlier, Lisa,
snow is on its way. I don't know if it's
gonna stick or anything like that, but probably not eventually eventually,
but yeah, probably not this time around. And you heard
somebody mowing their lawn. People, you want to you want

(11:51):
to take care of that stuff before the snow leaves
get off your lon. You don't want to matten down in.

Speaker 2 (11:57):
Sort of depends on what kinds of leaves you have,
Like if you have a lot of maple trees and
I get them off your lawn leave them in the garden.
A lot of pollinating insects that we want to help
out lay eggs and stuff in the leaf litter, and
so if you can leave it in your garden and
then clean it up next spring. But the maple leaves,

(12:23):
especially like the Norway maples, they get so they're so
flat and they get sort of packed down, so that
can cause some diseases. So if you want to just
sort of blow those into your garden beds, or if
you take them and you know, I think the city's
done picking up for the year, but you could compose them.

Speaker 3 (12:42):
People always wonder why don't you put those in the gutter.
Why do they want them on the shoulder.

Speaker 2 (12:45):
They don't want them going into the lake.

Speaker 3 (12:47):
That causes problems.

Speaker 2 (12:48):
Yeah, it does. As they decompose, makes the lakes kind
of sludgy.

Speaker 3 (12:52):
Yeah, it's good. Yeah, so I handle it.

Speaker 1 (12:54):
Probably something I learned from you, I originally observed in nature,
and then a fact that I learned from you, Lisa Briggs,
is there is a species of cactus that is actually
native to Wisconsin.

Speaker 2 (13:06):
There is.

Speaker 1 (13:06):
I had seen them growing on Fairy Bluff along the
Wisconsin River, and I thought somebody must have planted these here,
because there's no way a cactus can survive.

Speaker 2 (13:15):
Prickly pair and how cool is that? Yeah, Yeah, somebody
I did a share and it's something that we don't
get a ton of every year, but we generally get
a couple of them, a couple few in the spring.
So yeah, they're going to need all the things that
cactus need though, good drainage, full sun. I would add,

(13:36):
not in a place where you want to walk barefootage,
it's probably also a good a good thing, yeah, or
a place you don't want other people to walk bear footage.

Speaker 3 (13:46):
Yes, yes they are.

Speaker 1 (13:48):
They look again, having seen them in the wild, it's
like that they are such a cool looking thing. And
speaking of cactus and social media, you have posted on
social media about Christmas cactus, Thanksgiving cactus, and the different
type of cacti that we are wondering about. And sometimes
people and I can see why I get confused about
which type of Yeah, it's easy.

Speaker 2 (14:09):
To tell the difference because you can look at their
leaves and that's really easy. The ones that you see
in the garden centers at this time of year tend
to be Thanksgiving cactus. Okay, they're a little bit easier
to deal with. They the flowers are come in more colors,
so those those tend to be they have a long

(14:32):
bloom period, so those tend to be. When we talk
about Christmas cactuses, if they have pointy lobes on those leaves,
those paddles, then their Thanksgiving cactuses. And if they're true
Christmas cactus, then they're kind of scolloped.

Speaker 3 (14:47):
Got a little spikey's on them, look.

Speaker 2 (14:48):
Like a yeah Thanksgiving cactus too. Yeah, they're like little
wings as opposed to scollops.

Speaker 1 (14:53):
Okay, all right, yeah, one way to tell, do you
have the holiday varieties.

Speaker 2 (14:58):
In we have Thanksgiving cactus?

Speaker 3 (15:03):
Will those will those blooms last through?

Speaker 2 (15:05):
Oh yeah, because there's some of them are just starting now.
And I was looking at a couple and like in
the store and they're teeny tiny buds, so they're they're
developing flower buds right now as well as flowering, so
they'll last for a long time.

Speaker 1 (15:20):
It is a nice this time of year, as you know,
kind of look out the window. And the great thing
about living here in the Midwest is we get a
little bit of everything. There is this kind of time
a year though, before the snowfalls and when everything is
the leaves have come off, the trees and the ground
is getting cut. Having some color and vibrant, real natural
color and things like cactus other things.

Speaker 3 (15:40):
What about it?

Speaker 1 (15:41):
And I know there's there's science and some disputed and
all that stuff about overall quality of like air, qual air.

Speaker 3 (15:48):
Things being affected by plants.

Speaker 1 (15:49):
If nothing else, having live plants in your health brings
you joy just I think.

Speaker 2 (15:53):
So it's got to bring, like, like you said, some
life to a space when it's really gray outside. And
it also I think it sort of centers you because
you have to take care of you know, you're taking
care of something. So even if one day a week
you just sort of slow down and concentrate on that
ritual of watering your house plants, checking them for you know,

(16:17):
pasts and that kind of thing, it just like, yeah,
you're there, You're in that moment and not you know,
scattered with all the other things that are going on
in your head this time of year.

Speaker 1 (16:28):
One of the things that I talk about on the show,
like in the summer months with the cameras outside the house,
Christina and my wife in the morning she tends to
all of her little flowers.

Speaker 2 (16:37):
Oh you've said that, Yeah, Then she goes out there
and the watering thing.

Speaker 1 (16:40):
And it always I'm always so jealous because she seems
so zen. It's like such a like a sweet like
just like getting acting care of these little and the
indoor plants get the same kind of love. And it's
a great thing. And speaking of sharing love, holiday right
around the corner and getting somebody something special, something unique,
something beautiful, whether it's a plant or you guys have

(17:00):
some great stuff in the in the boutique.

Speaker 2 (17:02):
For Yeah, there's tons of options for gifts from you know,
fancy food or pretty candles if you're going over to
somebody's house for dinner, to you know, some cozy sweaters
and shawls, and in the boutique great ideas for stocking stuffers,
really super cute holiday candy. Just tons of choices in

(17:26):
the store. And if you're you know, if you've got
somebody that you want to do something a little bigger
for we did get in solo stoves this year, which
are really cool. It's an outdoor fire pit. They come.
We have three sizes and what's nice about them is
the technology sort of traps the traps of smoke, so

(17:49):
they're relatively smokeless. So those are very cool. And then
Pollywood is having a sale through I think September or
December third on select pieces of their line. But those
would be awesome. Holiday gives to some Adirondack chairs for somebody.
You You could put them outside right now because there's

(18:09):
pretty much indestructible. They have ten yere warranty against mildew,
color fading, and oh there's one more which I cannot remember.

Speaker 3 (18:19):
Right now, color fading.

Speaker 2 (18:21):
Color fading, mildew.

Speaker 3 (18:23):
Uh what else they I don't know.

Speaker 2 (18:25):
I can't remember.

Speaker 3 (18:26):
They'll stay beautiful.

Speaker 2 (18:27):
Yeah, they're solid material. But that's really cool too because
since they're made in the Midwest, generally we're looking at,
you know, like a seven to ten day delivery on things,
and so for sure it's it's it's not a situation
where you're going to be thinking that you're not going
to get this present for a while.

Speaker 3 (18:46):
Yeah, a couple of.

Speaker 2 (18:47):
Cool Adirondack chairs with a big bow on it for
Christmas morning. Yeah, even if it's snowy, it'll be fine.

Speaker 3 (18:53):
Really, that could be.

Speaker 1 (18:55):
By the way, you mentioned the solo stoves for people
that haven't had a chance to check these out. I
know there's like a Facebook of somebody it says like,
what's your talent? And it shows this person sitting around
a campfire and every seat that they sit in the
smoke is blowing right now.

Speaker 2 (19:07):
Sure.

Speaker 3 (19:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (19:08):
For people that are wondering about solo stoves, what makes
them so cool is they give off the heat. It's
a real fighter, you know it is. It is, but
you don't have that problem of smoke blowing in your face.

Speaker 2 (19:18):
It seems like everybody who's ever sat around a campfire
will swear that they are the person that attracts the smoke.
I've never heard anybody say, oh, the smoke, you know,
it doesn't It never comes. It never blows on me.

Speaker 3 (19:31):
So you want to check out those solo stoves.

Speaker 1 (19:33):
Those aren't uh And I will say this as somebody
who has one.

Speaker 3 (19:37):
They are phenomenal in make.

Speaker 1 (19:39):
Which size do you have the tiny, the smallest, little
tabletop one?

Speaker 2 (19:43):
Oh? Yeah, So there's a little tabletop one. Yeah, and
then there's one that's, oh, I don't know, maybe eighteen
inches across. It's kind of portable. The carry case is
like a bag. And then there's the bigger one.

Speaker 3 (19:58):
The one I want for Christmas?

Speaker 2 (20:00):
Thank you want for Christmas?

Speaker 3 (20:01):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (20:01):
That you could sit a bunch of people around.

Speaker 1 (20:03):
All those things are absolutely fantastic, So it's a great
day to get in check those out. So much great
stuff going on at the Bruce Company holiday gifts and others,
and of course trees are starting to come in. Forever trees.
They are there. They've got the greens, they've got the pots.
What else am I missing?

Speaker 2 (20:17):
Everything you need to deck your halls from top to bottom.

Speaker 1 (20:21):
