(00:20):
Got a question this morning. We've got phone lines open
for you at six oh eight three two one thirteen ten.
That's six oh eight three two one thirteen ten. And
joining us in studio from the Bruce Company is Lisa Briggs. Lisa,
how you doing this morning?

Speaker 2 (00:31):
I'm good, good morning. How was your Thanksgiving?

Speaker 1 (00:33):
It was very good, very good? How about you?

Speaker 2 (00:35):
It was good?

Speaker 1 (00:36):
Yeah? How was that? How is things at the store
over the over the extended holiday weekend?

Speaker 2 (00:40):
Busy?

Speaker 1 (00:41):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (00:41):
We did close early on Saturday because of the weather,
so kind of missed out that.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
Really busy day. But sold lots of trees.

Speaker 3 (00:49):
So I'm thinking lots of people took the weekend to
put up their Christmas tree and do all that fun
decorating stuff. I know I took advantage of the free
the unex spected free afternoon and decorated my tree and
christmasified the house.

Speaker 1 (01:06):
Yes, it's ready for ready for the holiday season for sure.
And we've got to look at the forecast. We look.
Of course, I got another chance for some snow, and
I see flurries and that type of stuff you had.
And Robin commented on the Morning Show this morning, as
she said Lisa had mentioned the past couple of weeks,
get out, get your lights up before the snow falls.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
Mine looks so good.

Speaker 3 (01:30):
I'm just I'm bragging, but they look really good, especially
with the snow.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
Yeah, how many lights did you? Five thousand, five thousand?

Speaker 3 (01:39):
So the strings I use have five hundred lights per string. Okay,
so it's not hard to like sock in five thousand lights.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
That's the strings.

Speaker 1 (01:51):
And the nice thing with the led is you don't
they're not pulling the power.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
They're not pulling a ton of power.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
Indeed, it's like less than a tenth of the light
of an incandescent.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
I mean, we still have white or clear.

Speaker 3 (02:08):
Incandescence, and we sell I always buy a few of
the Maltese just because people have older strings and they
need to.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
You know, a string goes out so they want to match.

Speaker 3 (02:19):
But at some point it's getting they're getting harder and
harder to find. And we only have one tree on
the floor that's incandescent, and so much.

Speaker 1 (02:26):
That two comes from just how darn good the led bull.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
Indeed, indeed the color has gotten really good.

Speaker 3 (02:32):
They are they don't break, they last forever, they don't
pull a lot of power, they're not they don't generate
any heat, so you don't have to worry about a
fire risk on them. And they're just really good. And
the technology is insane. I mean every year there's some
new color changing, flipping, pulsating, all kinds of things that

(02:57):
they can do.

Speaker 1 (02:58):
One of the things I too love about the ls
is because they are not giving off that heat. They're
not melting the snow. So like you'll see folks, who
are I know, so the bushes.

Speaker 3 (03:06):
So I had, so I just took mine and attached
them to branches of trees and ran them down and
pin them to the ground.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
Oh right, so it's like columns.

Speaker 3 (03:15):
Yeah, light and with the snow, so there's you know,
excess lights on the ground.

Speaker 2 (03:21):
Yeah, and it looked like the snow was just like burbling.
Super cool.

Speaker 1 (03:29):
Awesome.

Speaker 3 (03:30):
I wonder now how many inches you have to have
that that will completely block mitigate that that light underneath
the snow.

Speaker 1 (03:39):
It's not a challenge mother nature. We're just curious.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
I'm just curious, you're curious.

Speaker 1 (03:46):
Douging this morning with Lisa Breaks from the Bruce Company.
If you've got a question for Lisa, love to have
you join us this morning. Tellphe number to get on
the air six eight three two one thirteen ten. That's

Online Bruce Company dot com, Facebook and social media the
Bruce Company. It's a great day to get on into
the Middleton Garden Center of the Ruce Company. Twenty eight

(04:06):
thirty parm Industry. That's twenty and thirty part men Street.
Today is December first, which means.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
Is happy December. It also twenty four days till Christmas.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
The countdown is on.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
Yeah, you've got.

Speaker 3 (04:17):
Your advent calendar now you can start them today, start
them today.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
Oh my goodness. And speaking of starting things today and
countdowns and those type of things, is of course with
the with the big gift giving season, it is a
nice thing to get. We talk about the boutique and
some great gifts, and you guys really at the Bruce
Company have a little bit of some guys. Did you
guys have advent calendars as well?

Speaker 2 (04:40):
I do, and they're on sale right now.

Speaker 3 (04:43):
So if you've never done one.

Speaker 2 (04:45):
You still have time stop it and get one. They're
really fun.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
You know what else is fun too is if you
get in today or tomorrow, or let's just say, get
busy this and you get on Friday, you pick one up,
it's like you get like a head start. So like
for sure, yeah.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
One day you can open up like three windows.

Speaker 2 (05:03):
To catch up.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
So get on in for that stuff. I hey, speaking
of I mentioned the website. The Bracket's been going on
on Facebook, ye with the with the treats and the suits. Yeah,
so what are we seeing?

Speaker 2 (05:17):
Yeah? So this week, well this is the finals week.

Speaker 3 (05:21):
So this morning I will announce the winner of the
like simply wow desserts, and then this today will be
the cookie showdown classic cookies versus cookies around the world,
so I think it's Sprits versus that Rosette cookie.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
And then.

Speaker 3 (05:41):
Wednesday will be the dessert one. So it will be
a bushed in well against the winner of the one
that's running right now, so which I don't know who
that is because I haven't looked at the I have.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
None tallied up, so I want to get in on that.
Still Got Still Got a little time with that prize
is fun. All sorts of h get Yeah.

Speaker 3 (06:02):
We draw names randomly and their gift cards in the offing,
so it's fun. I think a lot of people have
fun with it. It's sort of it's a little nostalgic.
It makes you remember things. There are a lot of comments about, oh,
I remember my Grandma's Sprits cookies. That we had a
little bit of a recipe exchange when we did the

(06:23):
fruitcake one. Somebody had mentioned that they had a molasses
fruitcake recipe and then we sort of she sort of
messaged that to me.

Speaker 2 (06:33):
And then I dispersed that to a couple of people.

Speaker 1 (06:35):
Who wanted it well who Not only are there people
that love the fruitcakes, but they love to share the
recipes as well.

Speaker 2 (06:44):
Everybody loves to share recipes, especially this time of year.

Speaker 1 (06:48):
Winning great prizes and and fun stuff going into the
Bruce Company tree Walks.

Speaker 3 (06:53):
Still tree Walk ended yesterday, so they were finishing up
tallying the vote, and then tomorrow, since Skylar's the one
that kind of devises the whole Excel spreadsheet that that
manages this, I'll have her poll a winner and then
we'll announce the winner for that.

Speaker 1 (07:11):
I got a feeling about who may be.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
That the tree.

Speaker 3 (07:13):
Yeah, one hundred percent, the upside down tree has been
the winner, not only in first choices but also in
overall votes. Really, it was on probably sixty percent of
the ballots at least in one of the three positions.

(07:34):
So but the but the overall, so lots of people
voted it as their first choice. So we have a
pretty big pool. So we'll randomly choose one of those winners.

Speaker 1 (07:46):
Nice and for folks that don't know one of the
one of the trees this year, you and there. They
are designed this way to be hung upside down.

Speaker 2 (07:54):
They're not hung. They're on a stand. There they're on
a stand.

Speaker 3 (07:57):
So nobody has a Yeah, I think you'd be hard
pressed to attach a tree that weighs like seventy five
or eighty pounds?

Speaker 2 (08:07):
Was it from your ceiling?

Speaker 1 (08:09):
Is a turner? One of them used to do like
they would hang it from the think it was it was,
I think in Milwaukee the Turner Club.

Speaker 3 (08:16):
Maybe they did, but now they but it's so because
they're heavy. They're heavy, oh yeah, and they also the branches.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
Collapse, oh yea.

Speaker 1 (08:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (08:25):
So if you hang it a regular tree, then the
branches are going to close like an umbrella. So you
not only do you have to hang the tree, but
you also have to pin all of those branches in
the ceiling. Otherwise it's gonna look like an umbrella.

Speaker 1 (08:39):
And you've got the right one that you don't that's made.

Speaker 2 (08:41):
Yeah, this one is made.

Speaker 3 (08:42):
The hinges run the other way so that when it opens,
it falls open instead of falling closed.

Speaker 2 (08:49):
And it's really sturdy.

Speaker 1 (08:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (08:52):
So, and it it shows the ornaments in a really
interesting way. It shows garland, and we have some bead
garland on it. It's very pretty.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
So folks that don't know I typically get out there
and I haven't had a chance to get into do
the wayman have to do it today or tomorrow. Lisa again, Well, yeah,
I mean the tree.

Speaker 3 (09:07):
The trees aren't going anywhere until they'll be up through
Reindeer weekend, so for another two weeks, unless, of course,
somebody you know, it runs out of ornaments, or somebody
buys that last tree and we have to undecorate it.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
So the.

Speaker 3 (09:24):
Walk will be intact for the most part until after
Reindeer Day, Okay, and then we then we start that
week we dismantled.

Speaker 1 (09:34):
Okay, so we've got time.

Speaker 2 (09:36):
Yeah, you have time.

Speaker 1 (09:37):
Yeah, Okay, we're getting worried. I'm It's like there's like
a few a few events each year that I make
sure to get to to check out and definitely checking
out the tree walkings, speak of trees and other things too.
I know now that we're in December Thanksgiving, everybody is
now it's we've got the full green light. We're going,
We're going.

Speaker 3 (09:56):
Yeah. So usually Thanksgiving weekend is the number one weekend
for tree purchasing. Used to be the first weekend in December.
Now that's number that's the second one they flipped probably
ten or twelve years ago.

Speaker 1 (10:11):
I love that.

Speaker 3 (10:13):
So we have plenty of trees, running short on some
of the bigger ones, but we've still got some nine footers,
we have a few tens. We've got some bigger balsams.
So if you're looking for a bigger tree than that,
we have a couple of balsams on the lot.

Speaker 2 (10:32):
So come on out there.

Speaker 3 (10:34):
You know, all Wisconsin grown, all beautiful trees and so
and you know we'll do the whole fresh cut it,
net it, attach it to your vehicle or put it
inside your vehicle or whatever you need to do. And
then we've got all the stuff, lights, ornaments, hooks, all
that stuff, and.

Speaker 2 (10:53):
You could do some gift shopping while you're at it.

Speaker 3 (10:55):
You got because now you've got to start, like even
a procrastinator like me, Yeah, I did.

Speaker 2 (11:01):
I have been buying some Christmas press Prime. Eventually you
have to start Primetime.

Speaker 1 (11:07):
Yes, and if you bought.

Speaker 3 (11:08):
Them all last year, now's the time you're frantically tearing
your closet apart trying to figure out where you put
there they are.

Speaker 1 (11:14):
Yes, that's a good time of year. And of course
we'll talk about some of the great events going on
to Bruce Company sales as well going on. We've got
a chance too if you've got a question, love to
hear from you this morning six eight three two one
thirteen ten. That's six oh eight three two one thirteen
ten gets you right on the air at least a
breaks from the Bruce Company. We'll do that next. In
the meantime, you have been to the website Bruce Company
dot com. Check them out online, Facebook and social media

(11:35):

We'ks into our conversation with Lisa and take your call
next as every day Outdoor Living with the Bruce Company

Middleton Gardens Center at the Bruce Company right at twenty

Talk Brackets, Talk tree Walk. We heard the word reindeer,
but we didn't really get too much into some of these.

Speaker 3 (12:12):
No, the reindeer are coming on the fourteenth from.

Speaker 2 (12:17):
Noon to two.

Speaker 3 (12:19):
Oh.

Speaker 1 (12:19):
He's a popular yeah bunch.

Speaker 3 (12:21):
Yes, And you know, we had a little scary yesterday
with Santa because we didn't know with the weather what
was going to happen.

Speaker 1 (12:28):
Yeah, but it was okay, all good.

Speaker 3 (12:31):
Santa came, children were happy, good stuff. Many lists were
passed on. Yeah, but reindeer are the fourteenth. It is
undercover in the atrium. By then, a lot of trees
have been sold, and so we have the room, so
it is outdoors, but it is undercover, okay, And so

(12:52):
you can come and you can just check out the reindeer.
They're kind of fascinating, learn some facts about them. You
can all have your photo taken. They bring a sleigh
and you can take your photo with your family in
the sleigh, and there is a charge for that, but
the people who bring the reindeer do the charge.

Speaker 1 (13:11):
So that's awesome. It's an awesome thing for folks that
haven't had a chance to meet the reindeer in person.

Speaker 2 (13:19):
They're super cool.

Speaker 3 (13:20):
They're way smaller than you think they are, yeah, you know,
because they only stand oh probably at their shoulders, like
as high as a desk. Right. You think they're these great, big,
majestic creatures, and they're really kind of adorable.

Speaker 1 (13:34):
They're pretty chill too.

Speaker 3 (13:35):
They're pretty chill, although I imagine that Santa only brings
the most chill. I think Rudolph's kind of high maintenance,
so Rudolph doesn't come.

Speaker 1 (13:46):
But the rest of the crew is is definitely on board.
And speaking of getting into the Bruce Company, of course,
got the reindeer flying coming up by. I know you've
also right now a lot of great sales, a lot
of opportunities there as well, aren't there.

Speaker 3 (14:00):
Yeah, lots of sales on decor and also some sales
in the boutique for gifts.

Speaker 2 (14:09):
Greens are fifteen percent off.

Speaker 3 (14:10):
So if you want a fresh wreath or a fresh garland,
So but check our website and go to the specials
page and that's where you can see everything that's on sale.

Speaker 1 (14:21):
Again, that's just headed over to the Bruce Company dot com.
That's Bruce Company dot com hanging out. It's running with
Lisa Breaks from the Bruce Company. All the great stuff
going on. It's a great day to get on in
to the Middleton Garden Center, the Rice Company twenty eight
to thirty Parment Street. That's twenty eight thirty PM Street,
Holiday greens, points, settas everything.

Speaker 3 (14:36):
Yeah, you got to get the go point set is
Amarillis Bulbs Cycloman all the all the holiday flowers.

Speaker 1 (14:44):
Yeah, you got your glitter magic going on with your right.

Speaker 2 (14:53):
Yes, we have glittery points.

Speaker 3 (14:54):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (14:56):
And also they did a yellow, did they really?

Speaker 3 (14:59):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (14:59):
That's like not like a minga yellow.

Speaker 3 (15:01):
It's like with a glitter I mean there there's probably
die injected or something, but it's like a lemon yellow.

Speaker 1 (15:08):
Really.

Speaker 2 (15:09):
Yes.

Speaker 3 (15:10):
So the colors, you know, they's they some are some
are just colored, some are colored and glittered. We also
have a bunch of new varieties if you're looking for
classic red, though we're running a little low, but we
have a shipment coming in tomorrow. Okay, So if you're
looking for classic red, wait a couple of days before

(15:30):
you come in.

Speaker 1 (15:31):
Okay, Yeah, what about how does that work with like
businesses and I know a lot of a lot of
the churches and all there's place or is that is
that too late or.

Speaker 2 (15:41):
Is too late to order?

Speaker 3 (15:43):
If you if you're just looking for a couple, you
know that you want to put on the altar or something.

Speaker 2 (15:48):
We can accommodate that.

Speaker 3 (15:49):
But any large order, those are all submitted months ago,
and they are they start to go out today.

Speaker 2 (16:00):
The first thing, so, which.

Speaker 3 (16:02):
Is by the way, a big under we get we
just greenhouse is full of like you know, organized on tables.

Speaker 1 (16:09):
Yeah, we get we tons of them in there brought
to the station here and I know you're cr like
our one room or one conference room is nothing but
points set two.

Speaker 2 (16:22):
Yeah, so they come in like on moss right.

Speaker 3 (16:25):
So you know, if you order one hundred, it might
be a couple of trips to get them all.

Speaker 2 (16:29):
And we do have people that order one hundred, so really, yeah,
it's a lot.

Speaker 3 (16:34):
I want you know, somebody's got like forty pink ones
in the garden.

Speaker 1 (16:40):
Yeah, and they and they This was something that surprised me.
And I've got to take a picture because a couple
of years ago we got one from the Bruce Company
and Christina kept it in her office set down off
the belt line, and they kept it. It's it's still there.

Speaker 3 (16:56):
It's well sure because in an office you don't often
leave the lights on, does so yeah, so you so
to get points out of the flowers are those little
yellow things that are in the center. The petals that
turn color are modified leaves.

Speaker 2 (17:18):
They're called bracts.

Speaker 3 (17:20):
Be our act kind of hard to get all those
letters in there, and so you know when we talk
about Christmas cactuses that to get them to set flower buds.
They need to, they need to. That's influenced by day
length points. Satias have a very strict regime of light
and dark to spur that color change in the leaves,

(17:46):
and so it's it's not an easy thing to do.
But in an office, you know, lights go out at night.
You don't have people up watching television till ten or
eleven o'clock with all the lights on.

Speaker 2 (17:58):
So in that kind of environments sometimes it's.

Speaker 3 (18:01):
Easier to you know, to to sort of get that
that color change thing going because you naturally turn the
lights off at five or six o'clock.

Speaker 1 (18:13):
That's amazing, because a nice and vibrant and wow, that's
very well t il Lisa, today I learned why excellent.

Speaker 2 (18:21):
My job is done. I should just go home.

Speaker 1 (18:25):
Real quick too. As we talk about getting into the
Rust company, you talk about the calendar events, a ton
of stuff going on with well, not so much.

Speaker 3 (18:32):
I mean, the Reindeer is the last event, so I measure,
I'm oh, well, Fetch is coming, but Reindeer Day is
the last event. So Fetch comes on Reindeer Day. The
carrollers will be there, but that's the last day the party. Yes,
and then we have a little lull until garden next
bo because that's a big deal, and then events for

(18:56):
spring will start up in early March. So a lot
of people count Christmas in like days, so the actual
holiday I count them in like like when the last
events are, that's got one more.

Speaker 1 (19:11):
It's a good time right now to make sure you're
following along. If the Bruce Company even better, the best
thing to do is get in today, say hello, what
a great day to get into the Middleton Garden Center
of the Bruce Company. Looking for some great great gifts,
looking for some great stuff for around the house. Gift cards,
gift cards.

Speaker 2 (19:25):
Gift cards.

Speaker 3 (19:26):
Still we're just doing the gift card promotion. So for
every fifty dollars gift card you buy, you get an
extra ten dollars gift card on us.

Speaker 1 (19:33):
For yourself or to give yourself.

Speaker 3 (19:35):
For the recipient for You can split it up any
way you want. So if you're buying fifty and you
get another ten, that's sixty. And if you want to
split it into two thirties, you can do that.

Speaker 2 (19:48):
So whatever you want.

Speaker 1 (19:49):
Not going to beat that. It's a great day to
get on in.

Speaker 3 (19:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (19:52):
Absolutely, And if you don't know what to get somebody.

Speaker 3 (19:54):
A gift card is always a really good choice, especially
if you're shopping for gardener.

Speaker 1 (19:59):
Yes, they're particular about their tools and there and there's stuff.
Get them a nice, nice little something from the boutique
and a gift card about a bing about a bang.

Speaker 2 (20:07):
