Talking Golf at TPC Wisconsin is onthe air farm. Talking Golf is brought
to you by American Family Insurance,TPC Wisconsin, Oak Park Place, Wild
Rock Golf Club Simbrit Mercedes Benz ofMadison, also University Ridge Golf Course,

(00:23):
Ridge Top Exteriors, Cleary Building Corp. And Nevada OBVS. Now from the
new home of TPC Wisconsin in Madison, here are the hosts of Talking Golf.
Member of the Wisconsin Golf Hall ofFame, the legendary Dennis Tizziani,
longtime Madison sportscaster Paul Brown, andWisconsin sports veteran and Steve Wife radio host

(00:45):
Mike Hallander. Welcome in to anotheredition of Talking Golf. We're in Madison
mentioned TPC Wisconsin and along with DaveMcCann, engineer Mike Keller is up in
Green Bay watching the packers and practicesessions. Dennis Dizziani is here, and

(01:08):
you and I alone at this site, and then Mike up there with the
big shots in Lambeau. Huh,that's like old times. Who needs those
guys anyway? Oh you don't needme. Oh you think I wasn't listening.
I forgot. You're on the air. What's going on up in Green
Bay? We got everything covered today. We were gonna get a little hockey.

(01:30):
Joe Pavelski's gonna join us in amoment. We had a little Packers
coverage going on. They didn't practicetoday, but they will tomorrow and then
we get to talk golf pretty goodnight. Is that four hundred million dollar
guy there, he's here. Yeah, he'll be practicing tomorrow. He's you
know what, he might join TPC. I'll see if I can talk him

(01:53):
into it. Well, it's theoperative word, was mit With all that
money you can buy. We don'teven know for sure if he's a golfer.
Is he No? I think theyhad some interest in him. He's
an ambassador right now with AMFAM,so I assume that he'll be part of
the some of that operation for thetournament as we roll forward. I don't

(02:16):
know where he is from a golfstandpoint yet, you'd be calling for a
free run or a less and hedoesn't have to pay for that. What
was the big highlight up there today? Yeah? Today was I visited with
Mark Murphy on my talk show.Today. Today was an off day from
a practice standpoint, But so tomorrowthey'll they'll be getting at it full time.

(02:40):
By the way, on the linewith us now is Joe Pavelski.
The Plover native played at SPASH,played at the University of Wisconsin, then
for San Jose and the Dallas Stars, and the all time leading score for
an American American born player in thisStanley Cup playoffs. Joe Pavelski, Hi,

(03:01):
Joe, how are you? I'mnew good are you guys? Pretty
pretty good? And your golf gameis pretty good. We just watched you
play Out of the Century and inTahoe. You've had success out there in
the past, been a second thisyear, and so your game is in
pretty good shape. Huh, it'sin a decent spot. I would say

(03:21):
it was really good in taw Iwas happy with how I played. Yeah,
it took a second place last coupleof years, was like second,
third, second, losing a playoff, so it's it's been there, But
I would have I would say thatthis year's game was it was better than
the than the rest and kind ofran into Marty Fisher's game was a little

(03:43):
bit better. Joe. Where didthe interest in golf and that kind of
thing come from? Where did itstart? And along the way, give
us a little history of the golf, because you've certainly obviously become a very
good player. Yeah. Well,I guess it goes back to their childhood
and dad. Dad was not agolfer, and he just asked the kids

(04:10):
if any of us wanted to dothe three hole junior program at three Acres,
then pull over, Wisconsin. ThreeAcres are not there anymore. It's
kind of a shame, I guess, because it was a great little public
track for the area, got lotsof play and was there. But we
went and would play this, youknow, the junior lessons on Friday,

(04:31):
the three hole and go on.And then then from there it was I
would get a I think I wouldget the summer membership from three Acres for
my birthday or something along those lines, and Mom would drop me off and
I would play, you know, the first half of the day and go
home and do it all summer. And then I first job was I think,
first real job besides working with Dad, was probably a big the begroom

(04:55):
boy at the Stevens Point Country Club, so I could play for free and
you know, get some country clubgolf in and then I think the following
summer, I just bought my membershipso I could play every day, and
I just I just really enjoyed thegame, and especially in high school,
and you know, then you candrive and you can go there whenever you
want. You still love your summersoff and work a little bit to buy

(05:15):
a new club or a full set, and it was that's kind of where
it started. I just really lovethe game. I like to practice,
I like to play, and it'skind of I think with our NHL season,
it really allows you with the offseason, you know, get your
training in, do your family stuff, but you're also able to get out

(05:38):
and play enough golf game at agood level and keep it fun. Did
you did you play high school golf? Obviously your hockey career was front and
center, but were you golfing competitivelyat that age. Yeah, yeah,
we played high school golf. Itwas kind of in eighth grade, I
played baseball. Really liked baseball, but playing hockey in the winter, it

(05:59):
was like I kind of had todecide, I think, between golf and
baseball, and I just chose golfin high school and I love to move.
Looking back on, it was alot of fun. It was that
spring season two right right at theend of the school year. You're looking
to, you know, get outof class a little bit earlier and get
out and go play eighteen holes twotimes a week. It was It was

(06:20):
pretty fun, Joe. A lotof hockey players are very good golfers.
Is there something about that sport that, in your opinion maybe even helped your
game having been a player, Ithink it just it bridges the off season.
Like like for us, we don'tplay a lot in the winter,
so some of the fields and touchgoes away, But as far as grabbing

(06:44):
the club and and that impact,we're shooting the puck in a similar impact
position, which I do think helpsand improves it at times. The number
one thing is just the off seasonslineup, I think at the end of
the day, where you can getout and play and you don't have to
worry about certain things. But there'sdefinitely somewhat of a motion where you're leaning

(07:05):
in and you're in that position you'rehitting that the poker the ball, you
know, kind of a similar locationas far as hands go, and and
just a stick in a ball sportat the end of the day, Sons,
I think Dennis wants to jump inhere. Well, I'm like,
what the hell is he for?First of all, his kid is going

(07:29):
to kick his ass. Well, wait for it, I want him to
do. He's a pretty good boy. He's going to do all right.
You know, there's a thing calleduh And what's the girl's name? I
keep forgetting your name. She's theJesse Vetterer. She was a goalie.
She was a goalie for the Olympicgame. And I, you know,

(07:50):
teacher. And then she couldn't getit until I talked about hockey and I
talked about somehow it came out todrag the Oh. She says, what
do you mean? I said, well, you know, this is how
you do it. I said,I payed hockey left handed, and you
but you got to do that withthe club. You drag the toe and
then it's up and over from there. Well she caught on just like that,

(08:11):
you know. And I think ofall those guys that used to be
members of my dad's club that playedat Michigan Tech. Those were all kind
of John McGinnis. John McGinnis, that's right, all those guys were.
You get them around the net,you know, that's the hand action number.
All those guys got wrists like yourankles, you know, and they

(08:31):
could do it. So I haven'tseen him play yet. I haven't seen
him play yet. We'll watch it. Yeah, well I'm not don't.
You don't have to brag on this. I'll do it for you. But
you're you're like a plus two handicapright ish. Right now, I'm just
trending into the plus. I gottaplay a little bit more. But yeah,
it's getting out. We'll get itthro around plus one plus two at

(08:54):
probably by the end of the summerand find its way back to ZERI start
over again. That's pretty good.Well this will improve you here to playing
here. Yeah, I get Natemy son with you, because he won't
listen to me. He just wantsno, no, you know too much.
He'll get with You'll get right here. But you got we got to

(09:16):
do it when he shows up togive me a little bit of a heads
up, and and then he getsgoing, and then we make him feel
comfortable and next thing you know,he's off and running and he shows up
here then on a regular basis. That's oh yeah, No, he doesn't
doesn't. He likes that he wantsto go, especially kind of getting out
to TPC now it's uh, it'sa good feeling when he pulling that driveway

(09:39):
and didn't get out there, andyou know, it's uh, the real
golf course is a lot of fun, Joe. I was just going to
ask you about that. I've seenyou out there a couple of times.
What do you think at TPC Wisconsin. I like it, I love it.
I was I was fortunate. Ithink my time in Dallas we were
able to get in on a agolf course there Marito. Tough golf course,

(10:03):
but a lot of fun and getback. You know, we're out
at Maple Bluff and Bergamont quite abit and having the opportunity to get in
the tPCS is pretty cool. Ilike it. It's it's fun, it's
challenging. It's definitely challenging. Yougot to hit a good ty ball and
then from there it's just it's funlooking at those green complexes in some of

(10:28):
the locations of the bunkers and howit's set up. You know, it's
a it's the golfers golf course.I think as far as you can hit
some shots, you got to thinkyour way around it a little bit.
But it's I think they've done Triman'the job with it. Talking to Joe
Pavelski with us on talking golf, let me spend a moment or two on
hockey if you don't mind. Youplayed thirteen hundred and thirty two games over

(10:50):
eighteen years, four hundred and seventysix goals, over one thousand and sixty
one thousand and sixty eight points total. But officially, right, officially you're
retired. Yeah, whatever official means. Yeah, but yeah, we're not
going to be playing next year. That was kind of the plan, and

(11:13):
then I had a pretty good ideagoing into the season, and you know,
as a wile enjoy myself and everythingthat comes with the game, and
I'm excited for kind of this nextchapter and see how it goes. So
it'll be fun to be able tospend a fall in Madison, Wisconsin and
be back here and be around forsome of the holidays, little closer to

(11:35):
family. I haven't spent a Christmasat home, you know, know,
in the last eighteen years seeing anyfamily around that time. It's it'll be
kind of nice to just be involvedin everything day to day. Now,
Joe, what did you take awayfrom your eighteen years obviously you had a
very successful career. That's a longtime in the National Hockey League and that

(11:58):
kind of thing. As you lookback, what are you going to remember
about what you feel really good about? Uh, we just had a lot
of fun. Like absolutely had somuch fun with the guys my years in
San Jose. They just play sometremendous teammates with like Thornton's and Marlow's and
and those big names, but therewere a lot of other great guys,
characters Tory Mitchell's and go to Dallaskind of towards the end of my career

(12:24):
and get involved with some you know, young younger kids as far as Rupe
Hints and Jason Robertson. Playing withthese guys two unbelievable players and and really
helped me prolong the game and andthe keep my game at a high level
with them. But just the relationships, the friendships, the fun we had,

(12:48):
being able to compete every night, you know, at the end of
the night laughing at yourself sometimes it'slike something stupid you did on the ice,
or something stupid stupid someone did,or some something that was said.
It was it was fun just beingable to compete every day. And being
able to go in the locker roomand you know, complain a little bit
work hard, fun like like itwas just the locker room setting is important

(13:13):
and being a kind of a goodteammate and it'll you know, those will
the things that you really miss andlook back on. That was so much
fun and he had all that up. It gives you a chance to you
know, perform and succeed and somesome fun high pressure moments and playing the
playoffs and score those goals. Itwas always always such a pleasure, you

(13:37):
know, so much excitement playing inthe playoffs and kind of having those opportunities
to do that and go on afew deep runs. Just the something will
definitely take away from it all.Seventy four career playoff goals, the most
by an American born player. Letme, I'm gonna just one more on
hockey and retirement show, because asI've talked to athletes over the course of

(13:58):
my career, when it comes toretirement, it's difficult. You have to
very much be at peace with it. You talked about it briefly here a
moment ago. But how did youget there? Are you at peace with
it? How did you get tothat point? That's a great question.
Hey, I still don't know ifI'm fully there. I know at the

(14:18):
end of the day, I'm there. You know, there's always a thing
is like, you know, justas an athlete, or like could I
come back later in the year, could you do this? There's just so
much that goes into it at theend of the day. I mean,
wise, get preparing your body toyou don't really want to cut corners.
It was something I kind of learnedearly on, was not cut a corner,

(14:41):
especially in the off season, andcome prepared and you start having more
success, it kind of drives itmore. And if you start missing certain
days, you start questioning yourself ifyou're going to have it, And so
it's always about putting the work ingetting there, you know. So there's
just there was just a stretch youcan kind of feel it winding down.

(15:03):
It was I still feel like Icould do it for another year, two
years, like you know, youreally have to. But there is certain
times where I was sitting there,I think and you know, just wanting
to be around Eate a little bitmore and be involved with that and you
know, support him and whatever hewants to do, and it just comes

(15:24):
to time. You know, you'recasing some of these young kids around and
it just it just I don't havea full explanation with it. Besides,
I just felt right at this time, Joe, one more from me and
then we'll let you go. Youmust had a lot of fun over the
years, a crossing paths with alot of Badgers. There's there's a tremendous

(15:46):
list of really good players that haveplayed in the National Hockey League, Like
when you played Brian Elliott, BaronBrookery, I mean, just to name
a few, but and you playedwith Ryan kind of thing. Uh,
what was the feeling of the formerBadgers as they got together crossing paths in

(16:07):
the NHL. Well, it's anawesome feeling being able to compete against them.
But you know, it all started, you know, in the summer
of my freshman year when you comeinto college and you're you're thrown in with
this group of guys, an ultracompetitive group of guys, you know,
and you and you throw out theJeff li Likens, the the preschoolas your

(16:27):
riskies, you know, and thenyou got the Burtish, Gilberts, Earls,
Elliott, all these types of playersthere was from our team that won
it, and you know, sixthere was a huge group that went on
and played pro and and some guysthat that played a long time in the
European leagues. And it's just speciallyas as you go through it, it's

(16:52):
fun to go through with other guysand you know, and coming back in
those summers, you know, mostof the guys would come back and train
together and it was a cool culturethat that was built and wanted support.
So it was fun to come backand train and push each other and just
be around. And now there's alot of guys that live here. You
know, Earl Elliott, Gilbert Burishmyself forgetting a few guys. But there's

(17:18):
guys from our class that you know, come back and are going to make
Madison home. So it's fun beingable to see these guys, be around
them, you know a little bitmore throughout the summer, throughout the winter,
see them at the rink. Kindof look forward to it. And
you just got to probably give outa little shout out to the College Club
and their their golf outing that's goingto happen Wednesday, Thursday. Thursday,

(17:40):
Wednesday night, we got the studClassic Hockey game going on. Out of
cap Ice, which I think it'sthe fourth year. It's an awesome,
awesome event that you know that Bobwas passionate about about the kids and the
game, and Ryan's you know, pulled that right along, and you know
everything gets donated for to help kidsplay hockey in the area and cool.

(18:07):
So we got that Wednesday night andthen Thursday we jump right into that we
played with So this is a bigweek for us. Look forward to seeing
all the guys that get out thereand have some fun and you know,
I'm just kind of smucking up alittle bit. Yeah, Hey, enjoy
the heck out of it. Andthanks for spending some time with us and
doing this. Joe, We'll lookforward to seeing you. Hopefully our pass

(18:29):

(22:41):
been crazy. The fans support andpeople are excited, obviously even more so
now because they didn't have to spendtheir money directly to get Jordan Love under
contract. And so yeah, backof practice tomorrow and full pads and getting
ready for a family Night on Saturday. And by the way, that brings

(23:03):
in Gary Dematto, he is thepresident of the National Golf Writers Association of
America and wis dot Golf and Garythese We've talked about this throughout the summer.
We get to this time of yearand the major tour events begin to
diminish, but it doesn't mean thatthere is any shortage of golf going on
in the state and what was dotgolf covers? Yeah? Right, We've

(23:27):
got still some big stuff coming up. We've got obviously the State Open up
at Monocolo Country Club in a coupleof weeks. Never been there. I
know Steve Tricker and Jerry Kelly aremembers, and I can't wait to see
because I hear fantastic things about thatgolf course. And then a couple of
weeks after that, believe it ornot, we've got a national tournament coming

(23:48):
to our state, The US HickoryOpen is coming to Kenosha Country Club.
You know, Hickory Golfers from allover the world and from thirty eight states
are going to be at that DonaldRoss m down in the southeastern corner of
the state, playing that one hundredyear old equipment, and I can't wait
to see that. They offered mea chance to come play like before the
tournament starts, and they supplied theequipment. But I don't know. I

(24:11):
don't know if I could hit itfor Simon, would you know eighty yards?
Right now? I can barely hitmy regular club that far. So
Denis, have you ever played?Oh yeah, have you ever played him?
Well? We started that way whenyou know, way back when when
we started playing, we played withwood shafted clubs. You know, could
you use him today? And sure, I've hit him. You know,

(24:33):
we've had our people here who playin that event and it doesn't go quite
as far, but they do go, you know, So no, we
played him. My brother used toplay him. I can remember, you
know, he played left handed tostart with, and his were left handed
wood clubs, wood shafted and mydad threw them all in the garbage and

(24:55):
said, that's it. Do youeither play right handed, you don't play
at all. I can remember theday he threw he threw him in the
garbage. That's where it comes from, Paul Brown. That's where his prejudice
against left he's come from. That'sright. You know what he's also told
me, and I know he's deadserious about it. He said, don't
play Larry today because he would kickyour butt even though he hasn't played there.

(25:22):
And I took it as he's deadseriously. But his grandson's left handed.
Yeah, j oh, so they'rereally he's pushing that all the time
with this kid left and he's reallypretty good. The little guy, yep,
ten years old. HiT's about onehundred and fifty six. He is
really good. Yep. Yeah.So so Gary, did you decide you
would or would not go down andplay with those per Simmons in advance of

(25:45):
that tournament? You're going to giveit a shot to save my pride?
I unfortunately, I am not goingto try it. No, there's a
there's actually a tournament going on theweekend that the environment to do it right
before the Sicker You Open is theh is it? The PLA thirty six
old Championship, And I'm going tobe covering that. So that's my excuse
that I'm working on some different things. So well, right, mister politician,

(26:11):
I told you talking to Gary Dematowis dot Golf, president of the
National Golf Riders Association of America. They did play the Senior Open Championship at
Carnoustie this last weekend. Jerry Kellyand Mario Tiziani both were over it that
they didn't make the cut. kJCHOI one, Uh, have you covered

(26:34):
any have you covered the Opens?I think maybe we covered this couple of
weeks ago, but have you beenover there to Carnuskie or covered any of
the Open championships? You know,I've played quite a bit in Scotland and
Ireland several different trips, and Idid cover two Open championships in four and
O five at Royal Soon and thenfive was a great one at Saint Andrews.

(26:56):
That was Jack's last British Open orOpen championship, and it was it
was won by a guy named TigerWoods. I don't remember that. Yeah,
yeah, yeah. That was Whatwas cool about that was it was
late, like three in the morning, you know, the sun comes up
like a three or four in themorning, and I got I was staying
in the dormitory at Saint Andrews Universityclose to the course, and I couldn't

(27:21):
sleep, you know. I gotup at like three thirty or four and
walk out to the course and Iwas all alone on the golf course.
Really there was nobody around. Andall of a sudden I see Tiger Woods
walking out from the old course hotel. He goes right to the second team,
not the first team. He's mentionedon an apple and it's like four
in the morning and he's starting hispractice. Sound but it was like,
you know, it was like eighto'clock in the morning. Here, hey,

(27:45):
Gary, a question for you notparticularly about that tournament, but your
association with Wisconsin Dot Golf that wasoriginally started by John Hughes, and yeah,
it is really growing tremendously over theyears. And the impact that you're
having on golf. Is it Iheard somewhere where you guys are up to

(28:06):
more than a million hips or whateveryou would call it per year. Is
that true, that type of thing. Yeah, last year we had one
point four million page views, andthis year I think we're going to smash
that because now the WSGA is managingus, and you know, our stories
go out in an email blast totheir fifty three thousand members, So I

(28:30):
think we're getting known a little.I mean, the young players in the
state all know about us because Robernandezdoes a great job covering juniors in high
school and college, and so youknow, they're on their phones all the
time checking what their buddies are doingin tournaments because we post all the scores.
But I think more and more nowolder golfers are finding out about us.
You know, guys in their forties, fifties and sixties who might not

(28:52):
you know, go on the interneta lot are finding out about us and
starting to check us out. Soyeah, I guess to answer your question
to the people are finding out aboutus, and we're we're growing at a
pretty good rate. Gary, andthen Tis you can chime in on this
too. But but Gary, whydo you suppose that the appetite here in
Wisconsin is so great for golf notonly to play it, but the coverage

(29:15):
of it. You know, Ithink I think it's a lot of things.
I think it's you know, thegreat golf courses we have, the
great golf programs we have, youknow, lots tons of junior golfers are
you know, tons of kids areplaying golf in our state, and you
know a lot of them, agood percentage of them, you know,
maintain that interest as they get olderand get into high school. And you

(29:37):
know, the championships that we broughthere, all the publicity you know that
they generated for the Ryder Cup andthe TGA Championships. We have a Women's
Open coming next yur to Aaron Hills. So it's just NonStop. There's a
million things to write about and coverand and people have an appetite for golf
in our state. So it's goodfor us, that's for sure. I

(29:57):
saw you in there. But yeah. Now maybe it's always been there,
but what's your experience. Why isthis state so hungry for this game?
Well, you know, I creditthe clubs, all the clubs and a
lot of private clubs, a lotof clubs in this area who are trying
to grow their business, right, and they're growing their business through the junior

(30:18):
program, and they hire a PGAprofessional who takes great pride in having a
junior golf program. I don't carewhere you go, every club has a
junior golf program. They could haveas many as fifty to eighty kids in
there. Well there you go,you know. I mean, so they
promote this, promote this, promos, they have tournaments and the like,

(30:40):
and then you take it a stepfurther. WSGA and PGA are just filled
with competitive events and you know, not everybody can dunk play basketball, but
golf they have and it's a nicesport where it's a lifetime sport and build
accordingly. So there's a combination ofWSA does a good job, PGA does

(31:02):
a good job, and the peoplein that PGA who are there to teach,
that's part of their job also, and they take great pride and I
know, our guy here, ourguys here have programs. I don't even
know they got seventy eighty kids init, but they've top golfers that they
have that are coming here. SoI think you got organizations in this state

(31:23):
that are pro golf and doing itthrough the junior program a little bit of
a selfish method in having it,because they need memberships and they need rounds
of golf and this is where you'dget them. Well, Gary, we
want to thank you for being onthis week and we're going to take a
break. Have a good week,Gary and Mike and Dennis and I'll be

clearybuilding dot com. Today, Icall Ronald Off for having Director Off here
at TPC. Titleist is going tounveil their newest version of the Driver here

(35:07):
in the next couple of weeks orso. They're calling it Travis. If
we look specifically, it's called theGT which is Generational Technology. And maybe
you can explain to me what isgenerational technology. Yes, we are very
excited with this new driver head.We are now doing fittings for it here

(35:29):
at TPC Wisconsin. We're turntime forthe consumer. Once we do the fitting
is probably two to three weeks out. They will not hit the market here
to the general public until the middleof August. But the new driver,
we have it in front of us. There's three different head designs. We
call it the GT two, theGT three, and the GT four.
The two is four hundred and sixtyccs. It's their most forgiving head in

(35:53):
the family, So it's for theplayer that is kind of looking for distance,
maybe does and hit the center ofthe face every single time, that's
looking for a little bit of thatforgiveness as well. So the design of
the head, it's got a newcrown on it, new soul plate on
it. They've moved the center ofgravity in the head, which is kind
of what they do to help withlaunch and spin. So it's a lower

(36:15):
cg a little closer to the faceagain helps get the golf ball up in
the air with low spin. Thenthe GT three head, the one in
the middle that heads still four hundredand sixty cc. The center of gravity
if you look at us, alittle closer to the face, so you're
looking kind of at that weight designright there. What that does is it
will lower the ball flight a littlebit. It'll also reduce the spin a

(36:37):
little bit more. Designed for theplayer that consistently hits the center of the
club face. And then the GTfour is our lowest spinning, lowest launching
driver. That's going to be forthe person that's really looking to manage their
spin and try to anybody that spinsit over maybe three thousand RPMs that could
be ahead for them. Now whenyou talk about those three driver heads and

(37:01):
those kind of things. I talkedto ted Robbins, who's the representative for
Titleists, and he said, foran example, they maybe have thought about
or started and worked on this technologyand improvements almost ten years ago. Is
that how that process works. Yeah. I've been fortunate enough to visit Titleists

(37:23):
and visit paying and get to listento their R and D team and the
engineers that are behind making these theseproducts. And typically this stuff starts,
like Teddy said, ten years ago, it's been in the making and they're
not gonna introduce it to the generalpublic until they know it's correct and they
know it's better than their previous generation. Now, he said, most drivers

(37:46):
are made from carbon fiber only.He said, this driver has added a
matrix material. What is that that'sgoing to be Again, there's there's all
kinds of you look at the head, there's different material in the face.
You know, they've added a thinnerface. They've put a new speed slot
kind of behind the face to increaseit. What you can't see the crown

(38:09):
is different. It's lighter, sothey can again distribute that center of gravity.
That what the engineers play with ishow can they make the face thin
as possible, to keep it underUSG limits, to make it fast,
but yet keep it forgiving. Howcan they position the CG and the club
had to help with the launch characteristics, with making the driver longer and making

(38:29):
it more forgiving. And he alsomentioned that the fact that their driver is
different from some of the other manufacturers. You talk about Tailor made, you
talk about Callaway and that kind ofthing, and he said, one of
the basic fundamental differences is the otherdrivers are made not for forgiveness. Is

(38:52):
that a fair assessment on your partor you're smiling there a little bit?
You know, I'm a titleist guy, I'm a Titleist staff member. I
like the Titles product a lot andbelieve in it. I think all the
other manufacturers are very good as well. Ping Their big push this year was
ten thousand. When you look attheir head, you can see max ten

(39:14):
k. What that ten K is, that's the forgiveness number of the moment
of inertia. So that's as bigas it can get from a twisting standpoint.
You look at the Tailor Made driver, it's the QI ten. It's
basically the same philosophy. They're lookingfor that ten thousand ccs for a moment
of inertia so that that club facestays square. Had impact on off center
hits. So again I think they'reall good. We like to have the

(39:37):
player come out and hit all thedifferent products, because again it's a preference
of looks, feel sound. WeTitleist is kind of our number one company
here, but we do very wellwith paying Callaway and Tailor Made as well.
And one of them, I believeit's Callaway, is coming out with
a new one where they're saying there'sabout ten or twelve sweet spots on the

(40:00):
head of the driver. Is thatcorrect? That's the AI. They use
artificial intelligence for their club face, and that's one of their big selling points
is you can hit it anywhere onthe club face and not really lose any
ball speed distance wise, and youcan still hit the fairway. And he
talked about because I asked him thequestion because it is a little shocking when

(40:22):
you hear it, and I don'tmean it in a negative way. The
new Driver's over six hundred dollars, but he said, we are a quality
company with a quality product. That'swhat they build a company on, and
they say that's legitimate. That's wherethis is at, is that the other
ones are getting into that neighborhood too. Well, yeah, yeah, they're

(40:43):
all pretty much in that same gamewhere they're around that five ninety nine to
six hundred and fifty dollars, soa lot different than it was fifteen years
ago. And three hundred dollars wasa lot for a driver, but again,
the technology that they're putting into itobviously costs more as well. Take
us through the fitting with I wouldcome out and get fit for driver,
give me a quick synopsis of howthat technology would be looked at and how

(41:08):
you would put me in a newdriver based on what sure. So we
start with your current gamer and we'regoing to make sure we can beat what
you have in your bag. Sowe're looking at ball speed to see how
fast it comes off the club facerelative to your clubhead speed. That's called
the smash factor. The best anyonecan do is one point five, So
that means if you have one hundredmile an hour clubheadspeed, the best your

(41:30):
ball speed could be as one pointfifty all right. With the new drivers,
if you were to hit one offthe toe or the heel, you
might pick up five miles an hourover your old driver. So that's one
thing we're looking at is ball speed. Then we're looking at how the ball
is launching from the ground. Wecall that the launch angle. And then
once it gets up in the air, we're looking at the spin of the

(41:50):
golf ball. That's back spin.So typically we're trying to get a driver
usually between the window of twelve andsixteen, to launch and spin somewhere between
twenty and twenty twenty five pms.And we can do that based on the
head designs. We can do thatbased on the loft of the club,
the setting of the club, theshaft of the club, even the type
of ball you're using. So ifsomebody wants to get fitted, yep,

(42:13):
you can find us right on thewebsite TPC Wisconsin dot com. Go to
the Golf Academy portion. You'll putin your information and we will contact you
within twenty four hours of set upthat appointment. I want to thank you

Bobby, you out there on thegolf course someplace, sir, I
know you're out practicing a lot.No, I'm not. I'm home.
I actually just picked up my dadand my sister from the golf course,
so they were out there. Butno, I'm home. I did play

(46:22):
today. Did you get your newclubs? We just talked about the new
titleist driver. Where are you withyour new clubs? No, I haven't
gotten them yet. I literally lookby at the door every day when I
come home like there, But no, haven't gotten them yet. I've gotten

(46:43):
I don't remember if I told youguys. I've gotten my four iron and
my utility club, but I'm stillwaiting on three woods. One of them
means the new driver, So hopefullyany day now they'll be showing up.
Bobby, I think when we visitedlast week. You're head into Wichita in
a day or so for this isyour final tournament tune up as it were

(47:06):
before Q school. What does whatdoes that mean for you? What do
you want to get accomplished this week? Yeah? I leave tomorrow for yeah,
one more on a co woman ProTour events. Uh, my dad
came. My dad came home acouple of days ago and was able to
work with him too. I haven'treally had a swing lesson in a while,

(47:30):
so he got to watch what Iwas doing and had a had a
few tune ups to what I wasdoing. So it's really just seeing I
played really nice today. I playedeighteen holes in chat two under. So
those things, I'm I'm a quicklearner, which is kind of a cool
thing. And to be able tosee that, and then you know when

(47:52):
I'm when I'm on the range,it's it's whatever, But it's when you
can take it to the golf course. And today I kind of showed myself
that I can take it to thegolf course, which is encouraging because I
obviously am playing in a golf tournamentin a few days, so just practice
those things and just yeah, keepthat, keep that competitive mindset because I
still have a month to go beforeQ school. Bobby these Anica Sornstam Tour,

(48:17):
What are your impressions of it?It was a first year thing.
What did your overall thoughts? Yeah, yeah, they do a really nice
job. This was my first somewhatfull season. I played the most I
have ever. Last summer I onlyplayed maybe one one or two tournaments.
And then you're right, this yearis the first year that Anica's name is

(48:38):
attached to it, and they hadreally some really cool perks that that came
with her name being on it.More money that we're playing for, which
is very cool. And then alsothey're uh they pay for our yardage books
every year, which is a reallylike annoying cost for all of us.
Usually I'm each week it's like fortydollars, but I mean every week when

(49:02):
you're doing that, it obviously addsup. So this year they they gave
us yardage books each week, waswhich was really cool. We got new
range balls. But the staff isall the same and the staff does a
great job just like making us feelreally important. I mean, it's a
mini tour and they don't you know, it's I don't know, they just

(49:24):
make you feel like a big deal, which is really cool. Like there's
signage out there. The communities thatwe go to really get behind each tournament,
which also makes it really special.I've actually really enjoyed my time out
there this summer. Yeah, andwe talked when you kind of began this
summer that you would travel, andit's you know, I think golf is

(49:45):
a game that it's about many times, especially if you're doing it for fun,
who you play with as much asit is where you play. And
you've gained some friendships on that tour, but you've also kept some from you
know, your ties and people thatyou've already known. Yeah, yeah,
I have. I my core groupof travel travel buddies are all Wisconsinites.

(50:07):
Actually, one we we've adopted heras a Wisconsinite. She's she's from Illinois,
but she's like from Lake Geneva, you know that's in Wisconsin, but
she's right on the border, likeSpring Grove, Illinois. Mackenzie Han,
which I know you guys have talkedto her before. But yeah, we
have Taylor mccorkyle, myself and MackenzieHan and that that is very special to

(50:30):
to, yeah, travel the worldand experience these these things with people that
you really enjoy being with. Andthen we've also made some really good friends,
yeah, that are from across thecountry. That that probably has been
one of the coolest things this year, that that we actually just talked about

(50:52):
it as a group. We havea little text text chain with like there's
eight of us, and just justreally appreciative of that camaraderie that we've that
we've built in the friendships that we'vebuilt this summer. Dennis, as you
watch Bobby, you were out chattingwith her today for a little bit.
I saw you guys out there behindone of the holes and that kind of
thing. What are you seeing inthe growth of Bobby in her game or

(51:16):
her as a person that type ofthing, Well, her ability to be
comfortable. I can see that whenshe's playing the business of when she gets
suggestions of how she can improve, how she grabs onto it, assimilates it,
but then makes it her own,you know, her own thing.

(51:37):
So you know, I just likethe fact that she's learning how to travel
and compete. That's a big item'tplay. And you know, every week
on the road and it's different. And then you know, I mean,
she's she shut even par the lasttournament, right, eight rounds. So
we went through this four rounds.Yeah, four rounds. So I told

(51:59):
her, I just in passing,I said, you know, if you'd
have saved one stroke of nine, you'd have finished second all alone. And
her comment was really means, butyou see what I'm saying. That's how
I think. That's how close sheis to being right in there. You
know, I'm kind of really happyabout the tournament she played in. She

(52:21):
shoots even powerless, and like, now this week, you know, we're
kind of betting that she's going towin this week. You know, you
don't feel any pressure or anything. Were you probably that's a good thing.
Now she's going to win this week, Well that you should be getting ready,
getting ready for the tour. Youknow, her dad's going to be
with her from the qualifying which wouldbe good. So I just think that

(52:45):
she's what's called growing up in golf. You know, she got off to
a late start, which is agood thing because that means that she'll have
a late finish, different than someof these that I see start out at
twelve, thirteen years old and they'redone by twenty five. You know,
she's just starting out. She's havingfun and that's another good thing. So

(53:06):
there's no bad things. It's allgood things, you know. One more
from you, Mike, Cup.But you're in Yeah, just just how
you know it is. And Iwonder if the competition is even more difficult
when you're home playing against Dizzy andMom and Dad than it is sometimes on
the road. Yeah, it sometimesis. You know. It's like the

(53:27):
people that you love the most youwant to beat the most. I think
you, Hey, I have onemore for you, because last Monday,
when you were leaving the show,Grandpa was going out with you. How'd
that work out? Oh yeah,oh yeah, So we went with so
my cousin Ryan, who is atCPC, also played college golf. We
went out with our grandpa and itwas awesome. Grandpa. I know,

(53:52):
I don't know how many holes weplayed. I think we played three or
so. Granpa, you had Ithink you made a par in there somewhere.
I know you did, yeah, somewhere somewhere. But Bobby, it
was it was from the fifth ty, wasn't it. Oh boy, here
