Talking Golf at TPC Wisconsin is onthe air. Farm Talking Golf is brought
to you by American Family Insurance TPCWisconsin, Oak Park Place, Wild Rock
Golf Club Simbrit Mercedes Benz of Madison, also University Ridge Golf Course, Ridge
(00:23):
Top Exteriors, Cleary Building Corp. And Nevada Bobbs. Now from the new
home of TPC Wisconsin in Madison, here are the hosts of Talking Golf.
Member of the Wisconsin Golf Hall ofFame, the legendary Dennis Tizziani, longtime
Madison sportscaster Paul Brown, and Wisconsinsports veteran and state wife radio host Mike
(00:46):
Heller. Welcome to another edition ofTalking Golf fat TPC Wisconsin, along with
Mike Keller, Dennis Tizziani, DaveMcCann or engineer, I'm Paul Brown and
another week of golf and we're goingto kick it off talking about the John
(01:07):
Deere. Bobby Stricker will be withus a little bit later in the show.
Gary Demotto will be here. Meanwhile, We've got a number of issues
that we're going to talk about, and tis starting with the John Deeres.
Davis Thompson twenty eight under par.You had sixteen players who were twenty under
(01:30):
or more. But when you lookat the name players in that tournament,
the top one that kind of poppedup was Lucas Glover tied for twenty third
with Jason Day, Jordan Speith, and Zach Johnson at twenty sixth. And
that kind of thing. You've gota bunch of people that you don't even
(01:52):
recognize doing pretty well right now onthe PGA too. They are good players,
there's no question about it. Twentyeight under, twenty five hundred.
I mean, come on, Idon't care if you're playing a part three.
That's a good score. Yeah,but that's a tribute to the course
too. It's a tremendous condition. They had preferred lizes, so you could
tee it up. But you know, I go into the political part a
(02:15):
little bit, and you know that, you know, the tour has been
a closed shop for a long time, and they should open it up more
to more people like that playing. But you got some guys in there now
that have made a lot of money, have a different deal with family and
(02:37):
all that sort of stuff. They'renot playing as many tournaments. They've got
other issues, other things. They'redoing. They have business ventures and like.
But you know, I just thinkthey had opened up the more players.
There's a lot more players than what'sthere that are really good players in
this country live golf. Of course, I think hurt a little bit,
(03:00):
you know, because there are someplayers there. But you know that'll that'll
get old too. Some of thoseplayers are having a hard time here.
One guy did okay, Deschambeau.Yeah, I mean he did pretty good.
But there's a lot of other guysI look there that are playing out
there that they aren't you know,I don't even hear about him anymore.
(03:21):
Luke Clinton is an amateur. Hefinished tied for second twenty tournament sixty three
sixty seven, sixty seven, sixtythree, and he didn't take home a
penny because he's an amateur. Backto back top tens that you know about,
well, correct, you didn't takehome any prize money, right,
yeah, you know, but it'llgive you ten John Deers you can go
(03:44):
and sell or something. No,but there's a there's a lot to what's
going on there, and you'll seemore of that. Wouldn't surprise me.
These major tournaments, you're going tosee these boys going to be right up
there. There's some great players there, but the course is a great shape.
This guy made putts. I mean, holy yeah. You know you
go around with this twenty one twentytwo putts and you're hitting the greens.
(04:08):
You figure it out thirty six twentyone while you're playing the greens in fifteen
under right and there where they're hittingthem on the greens. They can control
the heck out of it. It'sstaying where they hit it. They can
fly at fire at flag sticks. They don't have to worry about bounce and
spin too much. Number ten hittingan iron to that, Yeah, you've
(04:28):
been there. I've been there anumber of times obviously watching Steve play.
That's a layup. There's no suchthing as you're hitting it into. Yeah,
they're hitting an iron on the green. Question for you. Speeth was
quoted as saying over the weekend,in terms of the quality of the golf
course and how difficult it is,it would rate in the bottom half of
(04:49):
the tours they play on throughout theyear. No question. It's a it's
a golf club. It's not atour course. They tried to make it.
You know, we said this before. You know, you can put
lipstick on a pig, But it'sstill a pig. You know. You
get these courses that they build nowthat are tour courses. Whole different ballgame
(05:11):
than going to a private club. Now, there are some private clubs.
They boy played that one out inRhode Island, and they can make those
things almost unplayable. You know. They did that at Century World, the
business at number two at Pinehurst.Yeah, it's a joke. It's a
joke. Steve had such great successat at John Deere. Why wow,
(05:36):
it's called putting. Yeah, youknow, this guy can putt. And
I'll just probably the greatest hole I'veever seen played the eighteenth when he won
there the second or third time,he hit it in the bunker on the
left. There's a bunker there onthe left, remember that, yep.
And so his caddie Jimmy says, well, we just hit it out there
right in the front. We getit up and down, we win,
(05:58):
oh no, six iron upside down, bump it up it up, hits
it on the green and then makesthe putt for three. That's the difference.
You know. You got to playa player like that. I have
the photo of him where he's pumpingand I think that's as much emotion as
I've ever seen Steve show on agolf course. Oh yeah, it was
(06:21):
phenomenal. I mean there's no wayto do it. I mean there's water
over here. If he hits itin the water, he loses. Hits
it on the green, and thenhe makes it. Besides, but putting
is it was the key and we'llsee him back at it again. I
think that. I think that madeit to the grinder that he's not going
(06:43):
to be at Bridgestone. Huh Sothe next Bridstone? How's with him today?
Right? So they play a game, Bobby and Steve. Steve give
her a stroke. I think atsix and nine. She plays from the
three, he plays from the ones. Yeah, so yesterday she called me
up, crappy. You won't believeit. I beat dad really, yeah,
beat him two up. We canask her about that a little.
(07:05):
I ask him. She was Ibeat Dad, So she was happy.
So I went to see him today, right, yeah, Well, how
you doing? She didn't want totalk about it. She was already two
or three downs. So I watchedthem play. I watched them play one
and two. It had ten feet, made it about eight feet and made
it again, So I said, well you'll be able to go home from
(07:27):
number six and take a rest. It's gonna beat you. One more question
on the John Deere unless Mike hasa follow up. Part of your staff
was down there over the weekend. What was the purpose of that and what
did they learn. Obviously they're watchingand getting a feel for running a tournament
and those kinds of things, andwhat some of the requirements. Our whole
Green staff was there and that wasgood. They were there. Eric was
(07:54):
there for a day, the assistantand the two assistants were there for a
day, and Tony was down forthe farm and he was down there for
a day so they could see allthe stuff that has to go to how
many people there's needed. When theygot to start, I mean, it's
going to be a real not achallenge, but it's going to be their
first time through it. And likethe people there said, it was a
(08:16):
complete cluster, you know, andwhen they first did it, but now
boy goes like that. And thenDave was down Only was down too,
so he was with the GM thereand got ideas on what to do and
how we're going to set up merchandisingand stuff like that. So this is
about the fifth or sixth meeting, though you've had a number of meetings with
(08:37):
they, They've been here a numberof times. They be an American family.
So I think that we have whateleven I think a thousand or eleven
hundred volunteers that's about the number.Yeah, Yeah, they had twenty two
hundred. Wow, So you knowthey're really they're really into it. John
Dear does a good job. They'remuch like American Family does here. If
(08:58):
it wasn't for America and family reallydoing it, and we wouldn't have the
They get people to come from allover to be part of the greens Keeper
crew, don't they. And that'sa pretty large crew, isn't it.
Well, you need and those guysvolunteer because they want to be a part
part of And that'll happen here too, where we'll have people from you know,
(09:18):
Eric is pretty well known within hisgroup, and they'll be here to
help out and to be here forit. But this one here, I
don't know, will be a loteasier because of the layout and the way
it's laid out. You know,I look at that we got eighteen greens,
and the greens are smaller so wegot to cut the greens. Yeah,
(09:39):
okay, to put the holes intea markers, big deal. The
rough we took all the trees out, so you don't have to worry about
that. So those with those moorsthat we have, they cut this up,
no problem at Allso I don't know, of course they know me oversimplifying
some of these things, and there'sa lot to do with it. But
the real stuff has to be donenow, and you're really you're out there
(10:03):
right now. You're you're taken careof and doing preventive stuff rather than reactive
fertilizing you're doing. I mean todayI watched them do that and it's beautiful,
you know, and but this isthis is different. Now. This
has be a tour course here whereyou know, they just didn't put in
sand traps or didn't put in moundssomeplace after the fact, it's all part
(10:28):
of I mean, the mounds andthe surrounds here are part of the green
structure, bunkers. I mean, everything is done totally, totally, little
bit be very interesting to see whenthey play from wherever they play from here.
Mike, I don't know about you, but I'm noticing more fescue is
growing. Did you have everything's growingnow we've had enough rain and now it's
warm and there's there's stuff growing upout here. Well, they do.
(10:52):
And I told you about the watering. When we had the old place,
we had three hundred and three sprinklerheads. What do you think we got
now over eighteen and fifty sprinkler had. Yeah, so you know that's the
difference, you know, when youget it now. So every square inch,
and of course some of that watergoes into the the areas they used
(11:16):
to be canals before, because we'vegot a three year contract with our environmental
company to get rid of the invasivespecies, which they did, and then
they planted flowers, so it won'tbe long there'll be flowers in the middle
or beautiful when you go around.Let me go to the topic we're going
to talk about with Gary Dematto inthe next segment. So Keegan Bradley is
going to be the Ryder Cup captainfor that's all right. We want to
(11:41):
get his thoughts. I know he'sgot some thoughts on it, so let
me set it up next year. The Ryder Cup is at beth Page,
Black, Stateside, And it waslong thought that Tiger Woods was going to
be the captain and apparently he hasdeclined that invitation to be the captain.
And Keegan Bradley, who has beeninto Ryder Cups has won six times on
(12:03):
the tour one major championship, He'sgoing to be the captain next year.
It was really interesting because he wasleft off the team last year in the
Captain's Picks and it was pretty welldocumented on the Netflix series Full Swing.
But Keegan Bradley is going to bethe captain now. Dennis, I'm gonna
seut you up on this because wetalked about this before the show. The
(12:26):
captain c can matter, but you'reall about pick the right players and you'll
win. Players win the turn, win the event. Captains don't win the
event. Who he gets for assistantcaptains that can relate to each an individual
player to motivate them and getting well, that's another whole story Tiger Woods being
(12:46):
a captain. I don't know ifI want to play. You'd never have
me on TV because the TV wouldbe on him allsought certainly would be the
center of attention. Oh yeah, what is that? You know? The
picking the right players? Now,I'll go back to a captain that I
know did a good job. Hewon. He has the scoring average,
right, he has one more points. He has the record. But look
(13:07):
at the people he had as hisassistance. Guys that have won tournaments,
guys, but guys that were kindof a step back made the player more
important. Now I can remember wayback when Lee Trevino was one of them.
Nicholas was okay. But you see, they were the center of attention.
They were the number one players. That's where they went. It was
(13:28):
very difficult to go ahead. Imean Trevino didn't even go ahead and get
in the same room with these guys. Well, to that end, Keegan
Bradley certainly won't be the center ofattention. That's a good That's what one
point. I don't have a problemwith him being it. I don't know.
Certainly he's not there based on hisoutstanding performance as a tour player.
I mean, I don't see whatthe hell is that. Yeah, but
(13:48):
he may be smart enough. I'mhoping to pick the right players. Example,
Chefflere m h. Steve picked himout of the woodwork some play.
They said, who's he? Whois he? Well, he knew about
it, and the players knew aboutit because in the money games that they
played during the week, Scheffler winsall the money. He's a money player
(14:11):
and he's showing that he is.And you know, I know how he
feels about Steve picking him, becausethat was the start. I mean,
he took on the number one playerof the world and beat him four and
three. He beat that guy whatis his name, Live Live Guy,
upside down chunky Guy, and anyway, you know, that's that is the
(14:33):
real deal. N John Rum that'sthe guy. You don't even hear about
him. I had to figure outupside down Chunky Guy was not the best
clue I've ever got. I hadn'tfigured it out yet either. Money.
He'd be pretty good on password, ever watched password? But uh, that's
the that's that's the deal, youknow. Uh. He's got a good
(14:56):
background. Yeah, you know, his aunt is very good Bradley. Okay,
Uh, she's very good too.So I mean he's got a lot
of stuff, you know, ineight to be good at this. But
you know, I just well,I just hope that he picks the right
people. There are some people outthere that you know, I don't know,
(15:18):
you know, but in fairness, they have a lot of money.
They're young guys, they just gotmarried, they have families. It's a
pull away from them. And ifyou don't give this thing one hundred percent
attention, it's not going to work. Do you think part of a dentist,
obviously among them is political. There'sa lot of political stuff that goes
on there, well until it comestime to play. Because remember you judge
(15:43):
the size of the tour player rightby how much money he makes. Yeah,
there is nothing there. And Itold you about scoring average, Well
it's the same sixty eight points somethingis the low average. When I played,
there was maybe four or five ofthose guys. Now there's twenty five
guys. Yeah, that are shootingat so But the players are bigger,
(16:04):
they're stronger, The courses are shorterbecause of the equipment, and that ain't
all. They're just better physically.Yes, and they hit the ball.
I mean, like I told youthat tenth hole at John Deere they were
hitting irons on the green. There'sno way that that could be, especially
(16:26):
when there's no role. Yeah,Gary Demato is going to join us on
the other side. We'll further theconversation on Keegan Bradley. Maybe see if
we can get any insight on ifthey anticipated the Tiger would say no.
So we'll get into some of that. Also talk about the senior the PGA
champions to where goes to Firestone Souththis week. That's why Steve is not
(16:48):
with us tonight. He's gonna headthere now and get ready to see what
he can do in the final. There's a prediction right there. Go ahead
and put some money on it.We'll see what happens. It's talking golf

on this Monday in the middle ofJuly, early part of July. We
hope you had a happy Fourth ofJuly. Mike Keller, Paul Brown,
Dennis Dizzy Honi with you, andwe welcome in Gary Demato of Wisconsin dot
Golf, President of the National GolfRiders Association of America. And I was
wondering if we would have any newstoday, and then we got news today.
Gary. I want to get yourreaction to Tiger Woods eskewing the opportunity
(20:33):
to captain the twenty twenty five RyderCup at Bethpage and it is Keegan Bradley
and I just can't imagine that isn'tshocking to most people who are following this.
I don't think that the well,I'll get your reaction very surprising.
Yeah, it is definitely surprising.Although you know, when it comes to
Tiger, you know he's been hemmingand hying about this and they said they've
(20:56):
been talking about it out for months. So I think the longer that time
went on, the more it seemedapparent that he was not going to be
the captain of the Ryder Cup team. Keegan Bradley A little bit of a
surprise pick. I like to pick, but a little bit of a prize,
especially since he lobbed you know, pretty hard to be on the last
Ryder Cup team and last couple actually, and you know it wasn't it wasn't
(21:18):
a captain's pick, so but interestingchoice. He's got his Ryder Cup player's
bag from I believe twenty fourteen thathe never opened. He said he wouldn't
open it for hopes that he wouldbe on another team and open it if
he won. Now he's got achance to captain the team next year.
Dann's brought up an interesting point earlier. If Tiger is the captain in twenty
(21:38):
twenty five, he is going tobe the center of attention just because it's
Tiger Woods as the captain of theRyder Cup. Do you think this maybe
helps the team have their own identityrather than the identity of the captain.
You know, I think every teampicks on a little bit of the identity
of the captain. Think you goback and look at some of the teams
(22:02):
we've had in the past for theUS side, and they've all kind of
taken on some of the characteristics ofthe captain, I think, And like
in Stricker's case, you know, calm, cool, collected, unflappable,
and I think the team, youknow, reflected that a little bit.
So, you know, Keegan isa wired up, amped up kind of
guy, especially when it comes topatriotism and you know, loving the USA
(22:25):
and a team USA and now itstands for So I think we're going to
see a lot of patriotic fervor.I think, uh, you know at
this next Ryder Cup especially, that'sfor sure. I think you should run
for third party president. I thinkthat was pretty good, Gary. You
got all the way around then, you know, I did. Yeah,
(22:45):
a couple of coole did a goodjob. You did a good job,
mister politician there. You know,I don't know what the hell he's doing
being a captain, but I doknow that he's probably smart enough and been
round long enough to pick the playersbecause it's the team that wins the not
the captains. And if he's smartenough and he picks up people that were
past captains or people that could helphim out to give those talks, to
(23:10):
do this, to do that, you know, I just hope that these
players don't cut him short. Differentthan steve'sjo. Here's the captain, went
ahead and he's scheduled meetings and practiceround. Scheduled meetings and practice round,
don't come like lefty another lefty thattboner, what's his nail? Phil?
(23:30):
He goes ahead and he comes therewith a brand new set of clubs,
never played and he's coming to playin the Ryder Cup and wonder why he
got beat. I mean, that'sthe type of deal. So it's the
planning. I'm just hoping that he'saround. He's old enough planning, but
he gets those people around because youknow, it's the team and it's those
(23:51):
guys that you pick that get along. I mean, when you had a
guy there were two guys on theteam who were they arguing all the time?
Who hugged each other after it wasall done? Both guys, the
guys the guys who just won theopen, who went shamba and then uh
then the other guys kept kept ga. Yeah, you see what I'm saying
(24:15):
now. In coaching, it's verydifficult to get all the players with the
same chemical or characteristics. If youcan get them, that they get because
opposites attract and they get stronger asthey come for a team. That's team
making. I mean I did thiswhen we go. I mean I had
(24:36):
guys, some of them couldn't standeach other until it was time to play.
Don't fool with us. Then youknow they're going to beat you.
But other than that, terrible. But when it came time in that van,
when they got in there and theygot to the tournament, there was
no doubt that this team was goingto beat everybody. Well, you have
to have that. That's coaching.Hey, Gary, I'm curious, we
(24:59):
don't hear anything about merge conversation inthe national golf media with Live in the
PGA, and at some point ayear ago it was either a done deal
and then it didn't happen. Butanother point, Hey, that we think
there's a deal in your conversations withother members of the National Golf Writers Association.
Why is there no conversation about this? Why is there no news coverage?
(25:22):
Is nothing happening. I don't thinkanything is happening. I mean,
whatever progress they're supposedly making, it'sgot to be very incremental, because there
hasn't been any like big breaks inthis in these conversations, or any big
news that has come out of thesetalks. And I think they're in frequent
talks too. It's not like theseguys are getting together, you know,
a couple of times a week andtalking it out. I mean they've only
(25:45):
met a couple of times, sowho knows. I mean Live is going
ahead and scheduling out through twenty twentyfive. Now the PK tour is going
to be working on. It's youknow, schedule far into the future.
So I have no idea what's goingto happen. And I don't think anybody,
even the guys in the trucks,I don't think they know what's going
to happen. Gary, I don'tknow if you saw the article or not,
(26:07):
but Hank Haney wrote an article andhe said the media is corrupt,
The golf media is corrupt. Thedifficulty on the PGA Tour is falling.
No one media member has written anarticle or talked about it's easier to win
(26:27):
on the PGA Tour. He saidlive golf helps players improve their careers.
Any validity and he thought any commenton Hank Haney saying that, I don't
I don't agree with him for I'msaying easier to win on a TG tour
when the tours, even if thelive guys who have gone over there,
(26:48):
it's still deeper than it was tenyears ago. In that to who was
deeper than the previous ten years soeasier to win, I don't know what
he bases it on the depth.I mean, the guy who was ranked
one hundred and fiftieth in the worldcan win any week, and I don't
think that was the case thirty yearsago. So I would disagree with with
mister Amy and that one. Yeah, I had a boy there we go.
(27:11):
I'm also curious as a deeper viewthe LPGA Tour as it relates to
even the PGA Tour, the namesthat are the top players on television are
not a big draw now. Youcan't create that, right. It has
to happen naturally. It happened withArnold Palmer and Jack Nicholas, it happened
(27:33):
with Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. But it's been a bit. It happened
sort of with Rory, but nowthose who have come on the scene haven't
been able to maintain. Do youthink behind the scenes there's a little worry
about television dollars and ratings because ofthe personality, not the game, but
the personality or lack thereof that's ontour. I think a little bit,
(27:56):
Mike, because you know TV ratings, they've been up in a couple tournaments,
but by and large across the boardhave been down this year. And
even a guy like Scottie Scheffler, who is, you know, the best
player in the world right now andseems like he's winning still every other start
he's got. He's got a wonderfulpersonality. But it's not a charismatic personality.
It's not an arn o'bamer type personality. He's just a good, down
(28:19):
to earth, genuinely good person Isit hard for people to hit their wagon
to get to that kind of guy. I don't know. If he keeps
winning and he keeps not taking pickingoff majors, I think that could change
a little bit. But but yeah, there's there aren't too many, you
know, others outside of Rory anda couple other guys. There aren't too
many real charismatic type of guys thatyou know when they're when they come on
(28:41):
the TV. Whatever you're doing, you put down and you watch the watch
him hit a shot. There's nottoo many of those kind of guys.
One final one for you, Garybefore you leave. You've written a lot
of articles about a guy that hada lot of potential in Wisconsin and Jordan
Knieberghee Denis worked with him on hisgame and that kind of thing. He's
(29:03):
now become an assistant coach and maybetemporary who knows, but seems like it's
a pretty good choice. He wasa four time academic All American. He
lived the college life, he playedon the Pro Tour, admits he made
some mistakes. I would think hewould be a good person to relate to
in terms of that team, right. Oh. Absolutely. If I'm you
(29:29):
know, a high school player andI'm looking around at Division one colleges and
maybe I'm not quite good enough togo to you know, an Oklahoma State
or a Stanford or picture Southeast Conferenceschool. If I'm that kind of player
and I'm good enough to play Done, I'm looking at this assistant coach
and Marquet and saying, man,if I'm a sponge, I can learn
so much from this guy, whoyou know, set a rest scoring record
(29:52):
for amateurs in the British Open Lowamateur, swept the table in twenty thirteen.
He won just about everything he entered, including the UH, the Western
Amateur, in the US Amateur publicLinks, and he's done and seen everything.
So yeah, from a from ahigh school kid, I'm going I
want to I want to go toMarquette and UH and learn from this guy.
(30:14):
Now you said something at the verybeginning. Who knows how long it's
going to because I think Jordan stillhas designs on playing and if he can
get his game back in shape,if his back heels up and he you
know, he can practice enough,at some point I think he'll try to
resume his playing career. So we'llsee where that goes. Gary Demado last
one. The coverage of golf neverstops at Wisconsin Dot golf. So what
do you have coming up? Yeah, well, the first couple of rounds
(30:37):
of the Women's State Amateur today,I know, I know is he struck
her had to withdraw with I thinka little bit of a neck injury.
So the final rounds tomorrow, I'mgoing up up to Mekwan to cover that.
And then we've got a Q andA with Danny Rainbow Century World running
in a couple of days, andthen next next week the year the State
Amateur Men's State Amateur. So alot of stuff up. Very good,

on talking golf at TPC here inMadison, Wisconsin. I'm Paul Brown along
with Travis Becker, who's director ofgolf Instruction involved with the Golf Academy.
(34:42):
And Travis, let's talk in generalterms about the Golf Academy and the thing
that I think is very impressive.Let's start with the students and all of
the students you have and the benefitsof the students getting assistance here at the
off Academy. For example, highschool boys. Yeah, so the boys
(35:04):
season just concluded here and in thespring, we probably have a total of
close to one hundred high school boysunder our instructional arm between all of our
coaches out here. We had avery successful season there with our students.
The students had a very successful season. We had twenty three state qualifiers.
We had seven regional champs, foursectional champs, one state champion, three
(35:29):
runner ups at the state tournament, and then we had twenty of those players
made all st eight team selections fromthe first team, second team, third
team to honorable mention. And youcan't neglect the girls, and you don't.
There's a lot of success in thatarea too, a lot of success
with their season will get started herein August for twenty twenty four their high
(35:49):
school season. We have a numberof high school girls that are competing right
now on WPGA events, some areAJGA events, so they're traveling across the
country. I said a young girlwho's twelve years old who just got back
from Florida, who played in anational under armour tournament down there. And
you see a lot of college playersout here too, And when you look
(36:15):
at the facilities and the quality ofinstruction, I don't think it's any mystery
why a lot of them are hereright, Well, we're fortunate enough to
have Dennis and Larry Tiziani, whohave obviously two of the best instructors in
probably the country, that have beendoing this for a long time, and
to have them to mentor our teamof coaches is second to none. And
(36:38):
then with the facilities that we havehere. The golf course is a you
know, it's a PGA golf course. It's a championship course that's going to
test anyone's skills. It's going tomake you better, whether you're a beginner,
high handicap or you're a tour professional. It's here to sharpen your game.
And then the practice facilities here aresecond to none, with the golf
range, the putting green, inthe new short game area that's coming in.
(37:00):
And you know, Dennis and Larrydon't like talking about this, and
I don't know the specific numbers becauseI've tried to get him to look back
at some of the kids that havegone on, but they probably have had
hundreds of kids go on to collegegetting hundreds of thousands of dollars of scholarship
correct just this year alone. Ihave my list here in front of me,
(37:23):
but we have fourteen of our studentsthat have gotten college golf scholarships that
will be going into college this fall, and that's just one year. And
they've been doing this for fifty years, so they've had hundreds of players go
through our program and have success. You're also involved in the kids in the
college players and tournaments and that kindof thing too, aren't you correct.
(37:45):
Yeah, we like to go andobserve the players. You know, it's
what they do in front of youon the golf range may be different with
what they do under competition. Sogetting out there and seeing them and watching
them and making notes and just keeptweaking little things here and there. And
there's a junior league, isn't there. I've seen a number of young people
(38:06):
out here. Yeah. So thePGA Junior League is a great program.
The program that we offer as forthirteen and under. We had an event
this last Saturday where we had aboutfifty kids participating in it. We had
three teams playing against three other teams, and then there was probably one hundred
parents or spectators out watching it.It's a lot of fun. We've got
(38:29):
a really good team. We're excitedwith that. We're going to be taking
on some all star teams around thestate of Wisconsin. We're kind of starting
a new program with the PGA herein the state and hopefully we can get
a team that can represent Wisconsin whenit comes down to postseason play. How
about finding somebody that can go tothe drive chip and putt at Augusta.
(38:49):
Yes, So I was fortunate lastyear. I had a young girl named
Tatum Oswald who made it to Augustaand she ended up taking third place.
She was in the eleven year oldage of but that was our second student
to come through our program and makeit to Augusta. And hopefully in twenty
twenty four we'll have one or twomore qualifiers make it. And I understand
(39:12):
now you're going to have the Academyand that is the construction on that as
I understand, it is actually goingto start sometime in July. And this
is going to be a beautiful facilityhere for people to get instruction. Just
kind of give us the synopsis ofthat building. Yeah, So it's going
to have four twenty five foot baysthat'll have kind of so four rooms.
(39:37):
They'll have two of the rooms willbe outfitted probably with TrackMan technology. Where
we'll have the garage door that opensup so if we want to view ballflight
we can do that. We'll alsohave on inclement weather days where we can
have a retractable screen come down infront of the garage door and use TrackMan
to indoor work, or you couldeven play golf on a simulator in it.
(39:59):
We will have the putting lab upthere with Sam Putt Lab. We're
looking at a couple other pieces oftechnology that will help with the biomechanics measuring,
maybe some ground force plates. Wejust got to see what Dennis's budget's
all about there. And I'll tellyou though, when you look at this
total facility now and that type ofthing, and I can see the sparkle
(40:19):
in your eye and that kind ofthing, I think for parents, if
they have young people that want tobe serious about playing golf and getting better,
this is shaping up to be oneof the premier places, maybe not
only in Wisconsin, but in theMidwest. For all of this one hundred
percent, you know, we're hopingto take those We spend a lot of
(40:42):
time with kids. We do alsodo a lot of instruction with adults.
But our passion for a couple ofUS coaches are with the kids and taking
them, whether it's taking them frommiddle school to play high school golf,
or taking them from high school toplay college, or taking them from college
to play at the next level. We think we have every thing under one
rough when it comes to the instructionside, the playing side, the mental
(41:05):
game side, the fitness side, the club fitting side. We have basically
a team of us. So it'slike a PGA Tour player how they have
a team of people around them.We have that here for the average ordinary
golfer. And so if you're aparent out there and you're thinking of Jenny
or don, I'm going to getthem the instruction, give them the instructions
(41:25):
on how they can do it andwhat they can look forward to. Yes,
easiest way to find us again isright through our website Tpcwisconsin dot com.
We have a Golf Academy Learning centerthat they can click on and fill
out some information and our coaches willget back to them within twenty four hours.

I'm Paul Brown and joining us nowis Bobby Stricker and Bobby, I uh
saw you and your dad and youryour mom out here the last couple of
(45:30):
days, and you guys are practicingand playing holes and that kind of thing.
Uh, a little friendly competition goingon between maybe you and your dad
or you and your mom. Yes, so yeah, we've we've all we've
all kind of been grinding. Acouple of days ago, Izzy and I
(45:50):
played an eighteen hole match and Igot the best of her on the last
hole. It came down to thelast hole, which was so fun,
big big money match. She wasnot happy, I'm sure. And then,
yeah, my dad and I haveplayed. What have we done?
We've done three eighteen hole matches overthe last three days, tied the first
(46:14):
eighteen holes. I beat him yesterday, which was huge. I want everybody
to know that I beat him andthen today he absolutely killed me though,
so I knew that was I knewthat was coming. He beat me five
and four or five and four, yep, I think that's what it ended.
(46:35):
So you got under his skin alittle. I definitely did. Yeah,
but it was fun. It's sogood. We were talking about it,
how how cool that competition is,and like I said, it started
with my sister earlier this week andthen yeah, to be able to hang
with my dad is kind of acool thing. So it's been good practice.
(46:55):
I would expect that that today yougot his full fury then that in
that way, Yeah, right,I mean, yes, obviously he's what
do you learn because you're playing adifferent set of tea? But what do
you learn about his mental approach whenyou're playing a friendly that isn't necessarily friendly?
(47:15):
Yeah. We actually played match playtoo, which is a format that
like we just don't play often intournament competition. So that was also kind
of fun, completely different. Youdo different things. You play more aggressively
because you're not playing for a score. You can be you're just losing the
one hole, you know, likeif you make a big number, you're
(47:36):
you're just losing that one hole,So it's a little bit different. But
yeah, I mean yesterday he didn'tplay, he didn't play very well,
and it was cool to see today. I mean, I knew it was
coming. I knew that was goingto be the case today, Like it
was just going to be different, but it is. It's cool. We're
both grinding and like I said,to be able to hang with him and
(47:59):
know that he's grinding like he wasirristraated yesterday when he wasn't when he wasn't
making putts and I was beating him. So yeah, it is cool.
It's it's just really good practice forus to stay in that competitive mode when
we're home. Bobby, what ifwe can just chat a bit about it.
(48:20):
What do you think the frame ofmind of Steve is right now as
he gets ready to play in thefourth Major this weekend. You're with him
all the time, You're watching himplay, some issues with putting in that
kind of thing overall, how wouldyou assess where he's at right now?
Yeah, he's really motivated right now. And this always happens, like he
leaves tomorrow and this always kind ofhappened towards like the time that he's going
(48:45):
to leave and to go compete. He gets like different. You can tell
that he's grinding and wheels are spinninglike like you said, he's it's known
that he's maybe been struggling with puttingand he's been trying different putters. And
my mom's been gone. She's gotback today, so I've been I've been
(49:06):
able to go out with him andand talk to him about, you know,
kind of what he's thinking about. And yeah, his wheels are turning
on how to get get his putterrolling, like we all know Steve stricker
ken. Yeah, and he wentback to his old putter. He played
in a tournament. Question. Yeah, he played in the tournament what what
(49:29):
what was that? The US Openand had a new putter and he's loved
it and he was really excited aboutit, and then played with it the
first couple of days at home here, and yeah, today he went back
to his other putter and made alot. So yeah, and then tweaking
his driver. Yeah, he's gettinghe's getting in the mode and he,
like I said, he seemed reallyreally motivated today. So I'm excited to
(49:51):
watch him play next week. Uh, Dennessee, you were talking about tweaking
a little bit of Steve's driver.I know we got Bobby on the phone
here, but talk a a littlebit about what you're seeing there or what
he was doing. Well, youknow the driver, heaps fooling with that,
and he's fooling with the driver, not his swing. Yeah, so
if he finds the right tweak inthis particular case, he was having a
(50:12):
hard time moving it right to left. That was not him. Yeah,
that was the clubs. We tweakedit just enough. And then I watched
him play those holes. It wasjust perfect. I mean, if he
drives it like that, which hewill, especially there, what he has
to do at that course, that'sone thing. But the big item was
when I saw him play, youknow, making putts and the putter was
the ball was rolling. I mean, you didn't think that putter was going
(50:36):
to make this trip though. No. I thought we'd put it right in
a crematory over there. I wonderedif I wondered if it was in the
ocean. Well, he's smart enoughto know that it's you know, it's
not the arrow man, you know, And when you look back and as
the putter you had right there, doesn't talk, doesn't say anything. He
(50:59):
made every put bewhere. Well waita minute, who's got the putter right?
So that's the whole idea. ButI I know that, and I
talked to you about this before that. A lot of things in his life
were going on. There was alot of stuff culminated by his dad's passing.
So that was a hard thing,a very difficult thing, and it's
(51:20):
just a matter of time before itcrescendoed. And you got to recognize that
get away what he did. Surehe quit, he didn't go to the
PGA. He's up fishing, he'sready to go and now and then you
start over and then you build upto that crescendo again. That's what he
did. Bobby. Are you muchof an equipment tweaker? Is equipment of
big or do you like to staywhere you are with your wedges and your
(51:44):
putter in particular? It's actually reallyfun. You asked that because I leave
tomorrow to go out to Titleist inCalifornia to actually so, No, I
don't normally do that, but Iwasn't going to make a comment about the
the I know my dad has talkedabout about this with me because I like
(52:05):
to my putter starts to look funny, you know, either looking down it
starts to look left, or justthings start to get weird and it and
kind of speaking to what my daddid. It's it's it's almost like a
training aid sometimes to get another putterin your hand to maybe feel something different
(52:27):
and then like go back to yourgamer, which is kind of what my
dad did. I feel like likeit's something else. You're looking at something
else, maybe a different feeling. But it almost makes your gamer putter better.
And I did that a lot incollege. I do that still a
lot now, where I I'll putwith something else and then my my one
that I usually put West Fields justunreal. So but yeah, I'm going
(52:49):
out tomorrow actually to California to Ihave some gaps in my in my bag
that I need to address before Qschool happens. And yeah, maybe a
new driver is he's hitting the pastme now can't have that happen. So
maybe maybe maybe maybe a different driver. But no, I'm not really a
(53:10):
tweaker until it needs to really beaddressed. I guess Bobby. Before we
let you go and get off toCalifornia, you mentioned Q school in that,
so in the near future is yourplan kind of coming into play here
now and putting it all in place. Yeah, yeah, I really feel
like it is. I'm really excitedwith I feel like I've been saying this
(53:34):
every week, but really excited withwhere my game's at. And it's just
it's it's keeping this this trend going, you know, and hoping that I
peak at the end of August. And yeah, like I got to play
with my dad the last three daysand it's cool to just have him see
what I'm doing and then kind ofvalidate what I am doing and I am
(54:00):
progressing, and we'll see. Iplan in a couple of tournaments before that
and we'll see, we'll see howthey go. But yeah, I'm really
excited. Bobby, good luck, and thank you for joining us on the
show. We appreciate it. Thankyou guys. Thanks Bobby. That's Bobby

from TPC Wisconsin in Madison, Andit seems Dennis that the weather has finally
arrived as well. We've got somuch rain, but now we're in a
hot cycle and temperatures in the eighties, and I think for golf courses,
finally we were going to get intoa weather pattern where we don't have to
(57:52):
worry about so much rain. Well, you know, I feel good about
that, Yeah, because there's alot of people have golf courses here that
we're hoping get open, but youknow, they're just getting started to get
back. Now. We were lucky, obviously, Yeah, because you know,
we took care of the drainage andstuff like that. I mean we
were played the following morning at seveno'clock. We had carts out, so
(58:15):
it was different than it used tobe. But I'm glad that they can
get back because you start missing. You know, we didn't have such a
good rounds of golf in the spring. Yeah, right, the shoulder months.
Oh, now they're getting into theirmoney months thirteen weeks. You can't

goes good and then the fall theypick up some rounds then. But the
(58:38):
business of this water, you know, and then we're all connected. You
know, when they shut the gatesdown here the dyke, sure the water
doesn't go out. Yeah, sothe water comes back, Yeah, it
comes back. Right. We don'twant that. So, you know,
