Speaker 1 (00:09):
The lt ed Hour. Let's talk Nascar with your host
Todd Bailing, co hosts Brian Schmidt, PJ. Newedleman, and producer
Dangerous Dan Margetta. Call the show anytime at four one
four four two one seventy nine oh one. And now
the creator and host of the fastest hour in radio,
(00:32):
Todd Bailing.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
Hello there, everybody, Welcome to the program. Glad you could
join us. It's Bristol, Baby, We're racing on that high
bank half mile. Glad you could join us. Todd Bailing
in Phoenix, Arizona for the last time this year, joined
by my three co hosts, starting with Downtown Utzburg's own
(00:58):
Brian Schmidt. Morning.
Speaker 3 (01:01):
Yes, got to actually see some race cars on the
track with my own eyes yesterday live and in person.
Speaker 4 (01:06):
Could smell it, you could hear it. It was great.
That means spring is almost here.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
There you go.
Speaker 4 (01:11):
And it was snowing the other day.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
So yeah, at least we have that going for us, right,
consistency and weather over on the mighty Mississippi River on
the other side of the state. Our own PJ. Neudleman,
did you go to the Dells?
Speaker 5 (01:26):
I was not able to go to the Dells, But
I did watch it streaming it, and hopefully today's race
at Bristol will not be as wreck filled as as
the Dells were yesterday.
Speaker 2 (01:36):
And if you watched it, that means you watched the
outstanding camera work of our own producer Dan Margetta of
Saint Francis.
Speaker 4 (01:45):
Hi, Dan Hey, And it's acted.
Speaker 6 (01:47):
There's like two three four camera guys on the camera
people on that broadcast. So yeah, I did a pretty
good job on that and Bristol today, now did I
see that?
Speaker 4 (01:57):
Right?
Speaker 7 (01:57):
In practice?
Speaker 6 (01:57):
The tires are wearing pretty much and it's kind of
like last year's Bristol Spring race, which was kind of
a mess with the tire of wearing up.
Speaker 7 (02:04):
It was a kind of cool race to watch.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
Yeah, how about that. It's kind of exciting to me
that it's eaten up tires. First of all, the sticky
crap that they put on the race track that they
named after our own PJ. Newtleman only they call it
PJ one, is only in the very bottom of the track.
If you want to get sticky, you're gonna have to
(02:28):
go really low. And I you know, I guess they
know what they're doing, because you know, the racing at
Bristol is legendary, or it was at one time. We're
trying to get back to that legendary status once again.
So Alex Bowman on the pole one hundred and twenty
eight point sixty seven five miles per hour. He did
(02:51):
it in fourteen ninety one. To get around it. It
will be televised today on FS one. You better have
satellite or cable or you won't be able to see it.
The green flag is that two eleven this afternoon. Looks
like they're going to get it in in really perfect conditions.
It sounds a lot like the Dels yesterday, sixties with
(03:11):
a zero percent chance of precipitation. And my my concern,
Uh and Brian, maybe you want to jump in on this.
If it's on FS one, it's owned by Fox. Fox
is the new home for IndyCar racing, and Fox and
its infinite wisdom has decided to compete with itself today. Yeah,
(03:34):
I don't get it. It's it's like chewing a handoff
of your arm. I don't quite understand that.
Speaker 4 (03:40):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (03:40):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
I don't know how they're doing this because there's you
have lots of time here between, like noon and whenever
to start Bristol, and Bristol's in the Eastern time zone,
so one would think it would make sense to start
that so that that race ends and you could have
the IndyCar race on after it for people like me
who like to watch it all. But when they were
competing networks, when it was eNB seeing Fox, they didn't
(04:01):
run it head to head. Long Beach was always later
in the day you'd be able to see it, not today.
Speaker 2 (04:06):
So now that just doesn't make any sense.
Speaker 4 (04:08):
No, it doesn't, It doesn't at all.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
But well, hey, they know what they're looking.
Speaker 3 (04:13):
At a guide and see what they have on. I mean,
last week they had bowling on before the race. I
don't know if bowling has big ratings or what, but.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
In some circles it does. Buddy Yes, to have the
bowling congress to a Hall of Fame in Milwaukee, that's
something Anna, As you may have heard the words tire
where a couple of minutes ago, this will be a
race where they were going to have to manage their tires.
And that's I actually, I think that's great because even
(04:44):
though your car goes away in a hurry, it's all
about how you manage your tires. The new kids that
just came on the block, which there's not that many
anymore in the in the Big Series obviously, are going
to have to manage their tires, some of them. Some
drivers are much better than others at managing. And who
did I see is going to be short one set
(05:06):
of tires. I think it's Kyle Busch who flat spotted
them somehow and qualifying and they have to just start
on those tires. I'm not sure. I was at the
Brewer game the last two nights. One was good, one
was bad, but so I really it was difficult to
see what the heck was going on. And you know,
(05:27):
this tire thing, to me is a blessing, so that
we but what why are we chewing up tires? Is
that an old surface or did the dirt do something
to it?
Speaker 4 (05:38):
God, that's concrete.
Speaker 3 (05:40):
And when it's colder temperatures like this, I mean, it's
weird Dan, because they don't have this problem fall, right,
we had no tire wear at all in fall, and
now we have it in spring, and now for the
second year row it seems like that the surface isn't different.
Speaker 4 (05:52):
It has to do with the weather, don't you think.
Speaker 6 (05:54):
That's what I was thinking. That's the only difference between
the two. I mean, it's what forty nine degrees yesterday,
it's cooler so that it tires up. That might be
a little bit warmer today, but in the fall we
have a lot warmer temperatures than it doesn't seem to
eat them up as much. That's got to be what
it is, because that's the only difference between the two races.
Speaker 3 (06:11):
And you have the same amount of laps on the
track beforehand, because this year both the trucks and the
Xfinity Series are there, first time that's happened, and in
fall you always have the trucks in the Exfinity Series
before the Cup race. So if anything, this would be
closer to the fall event with the lapse on the track,
and that doesn't seem to be making a difference.
Speaker 2 (06:31):
Well, let's just hope that the tire wear in the
cooler temperatures makes for good racing. That's all. We really
want a good show. It was not a good show
at Darlington last week until the last two laps. That
was a long race to put the viewers through. To
have such a absolutely crappy event of William Byron as
(06:56):
we saw just checked out and dominated and and you thought, well,
maybe they'll have a good finish. They a lot of
times have a good finish because there's always a mystery
caution laid in the race. Not so much mystery, it's
just coincidental that we have a late caution, I'm sure.
And it was not a surprise that all of a
(07:18):
sudden we get bunched up at the end. And of
all things, Danny Hamlin's surprise is your winner. What did
he lead one lap or two in that age?
Speaker 4 (07:29):
The only one that mattered.
Speaker 3 (07:31):
Yeah, And at the very end it did get exciting
because you had Ryan Blaney chase down and pass Tyler
Reddick to get the lead because Byron had a bad
pit stop. That's what kind of screwed him up and
put him behind. It wasn't really even bad, it was
just the timing of the green flag pit stop that
he waited an extra lap and those other guys on
the new tires were able to make up that much
time to get ahead of him, and his pit stop
(07:53):
was I don't know, like a half a second slower.
Speaker 4 (07:55):
Than the other ones.
Speaker 3 (07:56):
But then to see Blaaney be able to chase down
and pass Reddick. That was pretty cool to see, but
then the caution put it off or not because Bubba
punted Kyle Larson.
Speaker 5 (08:05):
Thanks Baba, thanks a lot. Yeah, my guy should have won,
but thanks to Brian picking Denny Hamlin, he won.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
Why would it have been that Kyle Larson got off
the gas so quickly.
Speaker 7 (08:21):
Car got an offense right in front of them?
Speaker 8 (08:23):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (08:23):
Yes, yeah, I think he saw the sixty hit the fence,
thought he was coming off the wall, so he checked
up and checked out a lot more than the twenty
three expected.
Speaker 2 (08:30):
Conspiracy theorists anyone, No, just bad timing.
Speaker 5 (08:38):
Well, I wouldn't go Yeah, I wouldn't hesitate to think that.
Maybe Kyle might have if you want to go conspiracy.
Maybe he wanted to help give William Byron a shot yet,
but I doubt that Kyle would rather win himself.
Speaker 2 (08:52):
Yeah, I mean.
Speaker 4 (08:53):
Strange for Darlington.
Speaker 3 (08:54):
The stats a Darlington four leaders among four drivers and
there were only four lead changes. Byron led l one
through two hundred and forty three, Hammon led two forty
four to two forty seven, and then he led two
ninety two to two ninety seven, but only four different
leaders and only four lead changes.
Speaker 2 (09:11):
Ouch, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 5 (09:14):
So were we happy with the race then.
Speaker 2 (09:18):
The race itself? Probably not? Brian an easy fix.
Speaker 4 (09:21):
Or no, it's the it's a car thing. I think.
I still think it's time Brian.
Speaker 2 (09:26):
This good. Hold that thought when we use this opportunity
to sneak away. Brian has an easy fix for this.
It's nothing new. We just need to be reminded once
in a while how we could fix this and it
wouldn't be any hair off the stars. I asked, we
could just do it. All they have to do is
pull the trigger and it could be done. We're happy
you're tuned in and we hope you come back to this.

Welcome back to the program. Glad you could join us.
We're trying this zoom thing for the first time. It's
very exciting because it's so different for us. You may
think it sounds the same, but I'm guessing there's music
playing here and I just missed it, which is well,
we'll get that fix. We're working on it. It's all good.
It was a week full of prominent folks that passed away.
(12:35):
Al Pierce He's been the Autoweek NASCAR editor for many years,
a writer for many many years. He passed away at
age eighty two, a truck owner along with mcinally racing.
Apparently Shigy Hattri, who's been around, crossed over the center
(12:56):
line and got killed sixty one years old. I'm always suspicious,
did you have a medical thing or did you just
want to pull a plug on yourself? Or did you
fall asleep or did you fall asleep or were you inattentive?
Or did you have a telephone in your hand? That's
how that works. And I guess the biggest surprise of
(13:20):
the week fifty three year old John Edwards, who has
been the director of Communications at Hendrick forever. He was
with Jeff Gordon from about the time he came over
to Hendrick and stuck around, and he's been Kyle Larson's
PR guy. Dies at fifty three. I don't know if
(13:40):
they'll say, but you know, when you hear stuff like that,
you gotta think it could be a heart issue. It
almost got me at fifty five, but of course that
was a long time ago.
Speaker 5 (13:51):
So well, and the car for Cup is not really
on life support, but it's getting there, and we're talking
with Brian about fixing it.
Speaker 3 (14:01):
Yeah, Brian, Yeah, we've talked about this before and I
think you know, the reason you're seeing the racing you're
seeing is because you're not allowing these cars to have
I mean three things. I think three major things, and
if you tried each one of them separately, we could
find out which one would make it work. First, let
them have the full horsepower of the motors. We've talked
about that many times. The drivers have said it a lot.
(14:22):
That would give more thrower response, make the car more
reactive to it, make you have to drive it better. Secondly,
get back to the old four speed transmission in these
cars so they're not shifting all the time during laps.
I think that would also change the way the racing is,
make your closing rates better, make you have to break more,
use the brake more. And thirdly, get back to the
same tire that you had for the Infinity. In the
(14:43):
Truck series, this wider, low profile tire that you have
in the cup car doesn't seem to be conducive to
the good racing that you see in both the Exfinity
and the Truck Series because you look at their races,
their races have been pretty good. I mean, yesterday was
kind of a stinker because Larsen was that much better
than everybody, But for the most part the last several years,
the Xfinity Series has outdone the Cup Series and the
competitiveness of their races by a lot.
Speaker 2 (15:06):
From what I understand, it would not be difficult to
increase the horse power on these cars, right, No.
Speaker 4 (15:11):
That would probably be the cheapest of them all.
Speaker 3 (15:13):
Yeah, I think it's like nothing more than maybe a
computer setting on their on their the way they do
their motors or tune them or something.
Speaker 2 (15:21):
I understand they want to keep it competitive PJ.
Speaker 5 (15:23):
But but that's something too. I think a lot of
the drivers have been beaten the drum on too. I mean,
hasn't That's been something Denny Hamlin has been extolling on
his podcast.
Speaker 2 (15:33):
Yes, also Brian, that transmission thing. It seems to me anyway,
that that would be kind of a linked arm in
arm with the horsepower thing. You don't if you got
that much more horsepower, it's going to cut down on
the need for all that shifting, isn't it. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (15:48):
I mean, if you give them more horsepower and you
have the sequential gearbox in it, they may shift a
little bit. The shifting may be a little bit different,
but you're still going to have the shifting going on.
Because you have that many more gears, you get back
to the old the way the Xfinity car set up,
and the only place you're shifting with an Exfinity car
is on a road course, which is what it should be.
It makes it more in the driver's hands. You got
(16:09):
to break, it's the way you break, it's the way
you get on the throttle. It's just it just makes
it more of a driving short track type thing. I mean,
when you think a short track racing, you don't think
of shifting, right. I mean, that's what they do at Martinsville.
Speaker 4 (16:21):
It's crazy.
Speaker 2 (16:22):
And I know markin the shortest track there is and
they shift four times a lap for five hundred laps.
Think about that for a second. It's crazy. We mentioned
Alex Bowman is on the pole. It's not really unlikely,
I would say, because it's a Hendrick car. What might
be considered unlikely is Ricky Stenhouse is going to start
from the outside of the front row. Unlikely. Well, he
(16:44):
doesn't do it very often. It's not prolific. I you know,
five hundred laps here may or may not be a
thing for Ricky Stenhouse. I just I don't believe he'll
be around at the end. Kyle Larson starts third. I'm
going to go way out on a lim and say,
as far as the odds go, I didn't see him.
But if that doesn't make him the favorite, he's right
(17:06):
up there in Hamlin. Fourth, Oh my goodness, and looking
at it. Seventh is Christopher Bell. I'm afraid we're going
to see the same old folks, but you know that's
how it works, you know a little bit. These are
the ones. It's your stars. The debut of former Slinger
(17:31):
Speedway feature winner Jesse Love is today. Not a bad
starting spot, really right in the middle of the pack
at nineteenth. Our friend Josh Bilicki is in the race today,
one of his rare starts in the sixty sixth cards.
It's a back marker thing you shouldn't look for. But
here's what I find to be kind of interesting. You know,
(17:52):
Josh is that marketing genius. He goes out and find sponsors.
I'm not sure how the hell he got manscaped. And
if you don't know what that is, it's an electric
pubic hair trimmer, exactly what we got on the side
of the car now that can go down in the
hall of fame, along with Dude Wipes, Boudreau's butt paste, Underalls,
(18:18):
underall Sterling, Marlin had underalls, and of course Viagra. There's
so much stuff going on below the belt here with sponsorship.
We just got to keep track. But good luck in
the pubic hair Trimmer sixty six car that's called Manscape.
Speaker 5 (18:35):
Well, maybe people want to shave their chest too. Some
guys like to have a smooth chest.
Speaker 2 (18:41):
Or maybe they're back.
Speaker 7 (18:42):
It could be.
Speaker 4 (18:43):
Josh has a nice company.
Speaker 3 (18:44):
Right in front of him is are defending Cup Throies
champion Joey Logano.
Speaker 2 (18:48):
Yeah, yeah, Ill mganahead and he smacked the wall. And
qualifying there was a couple issues. Oh Kyle Busch. I
did not see qualifying. I just read a little about
it and I see that Kyle Busch also had a
problem there. So for a guy that's trying to win
for the first time in a long time and at
a track that he is historically great at, that's not
(19:13):
what he needed. All the good news is that he'll
start in the middle of the pack at fifteenth, so
not really all that bad, so we can go on.
This is always fun. When they go to Bristol, you'll
notice there's no dirt on the track. That's kind of nice.
They scraped that off and it was an experiment and
it was something we tried. And it was an Eastern night,
(19:35):
remember that. And then we had all at dust and
the lights and the sun coming down and blah blah
blah blah. We're back to racing again. Concrete, the bottom
couple of feet are all that have this PJ one
sticky stuff on. It. Should be a good show. We're
happy you joined us. We're gonna take a break and
be right back.

Thirty five years on the radio transitions to my first
year in the brave new world of podcasting, the Mark
Belling Podcast on the iHeart app or wherever you get

Speaker 2 (22:18):
May first, talk to you then, and welcome back to LTN.
All right, so you know our legal expert and we
don't have a legal expert, but Dan is as close
as we get to legal experts. Right now, there's a
(22:39):
couple of things that twenty three to eleven appeal hearing
is next, that's coming up on the ninth of next month.
But before that there's big drama with this charter that
Rick Ware has. He apparently has at least one of
these two charters is least to the raush freaking Keslowski
(23:04):
number sixty car and so that's how they are competing
with that charter right now. But apparently there was some
sort of agreement and Dan, you can fill me in
on this with Jimmy Johnson and his Legacy deal that
(23:25):
they were going to sell the charter over there. For
get this forty five million dollars. Where the hell did
that number come from? I guess it's pretty valuable having
one of those charters. Huh.
Speaker 7 (23:41):
Sure it looks like it.
Speaker 6 (23:42):
I mean, if it's up to forty five million now,
especially when they got handed out for nothing back in
twenty sixteen, Yeah, I mean it's And he had a
wonder you know this Toyota needs one that bad. I
guess they must have enough drivers coming up, like maybe
be Corey him or something that maybe he needs a
charter somewhere to put in there. Maybe Looking at that,
I'm not sure where all that money is coming from.
(24:02):
It's got to be Toyota from that Legacy team. But
the interesting thing there is they they leased that charter
to the sixty car and Ralsh finway this year. And
you can only lease a charter for one year, so
after that first year you've done leasing, either got to
buy it or go lease another one. Well, there's not
money out there left to lease, so I mean thinking
they probably were thinking they were gonna buy that charter,
(24:25):
and then uh, Toyota money came in and it's forty
five million. It's like, whoa, you know, do they are
they gonna up that? I mean, it was we're gonna
maybe get more for it. Why he doesn't want to
sell it now? Or you know he has one for
the fifty one car, but that if you get rid
of that one, then you're pretty much done as a team.
You're not You're not really gonna survive.
Speaker 2 (24:43):
Yeah, but so what does he do? Million dollars?
Speaker 7 (24:47):
That's crazy?
Speaker 6 (24:48):
And then the restraining order that came out this week
pretty much says that they you know, they can't do
anything with that charter.
Speaker 7 (24:55):
Ten days.
Speaker 6 (24:56):
Yeah, So I mean there was some kind of a
a of a stop on that, so it's held up
in court that way. First I saw restraininger, I thought,
what is this the fifty one and I can't get
within five spots, the forty two and the forty three,
and what's going on with say.
Speaker 2 (25:10):
Away from it, it's crazy, just a basic rule of business.
Price is determined by supply and demand. You don't have
very many charters, and you got two teams pretty much
fighting over this one. But he agreed to sell it
to me for that much. Yeah, but if he didn't
(25:31):
have it in writing, how, I mean a verbal commitment?
You know, Wow, back in the day where we're good
with a handshake. Well yeah, well that was before we
had too many lawyers or.
Speaker 5 (25:44):
Before things were sold for millions of dollars.
Speaker 2 (25:47):
Yeah, NASCAR still hasn't figured out how to get their
their hooks into that. Like like watch, there'll be a
new rule NASCAR will be awarded ten percent of any
exchange of charters or something. But then that'll be coming.
Think about it.
Speaker 6 (26:02):
Though, There's not many left that are really out there
poor sale anymore, unless you know, if a major team
loses the car or gets out of it. I mean,
the ones that were kind of the back marker, so
to say, are kind of dwindling down. There's not many
of those left, so they can't.
Speaker 2 (26:16):
Call Spire a back marker exactly, anymore.
Speaker 6 (26:19):
And and you know what happens if this other lawsuit
gets done by into the ear and NASCAR loses and says,
well goodbye charters, Well then they're all worth nothing.
Speaker 2 (26:29):
And that could happen nascars. I mean, how are they
fighting over this and trying to outbid each other when
we really you know, the supplying demand argument is one thing,
but if the whole thing goes away, that means we'll
go to zero demand and so price would be nonexistent.
(26:50):
A I don't know, guys, case stay tuned. This is
going to be interesting stuff before we're done. Is NASCAR
going to just throw away the chartersys them? And boy,
there's going to be some pissed off people if that happened.
Speaker 17 (27:04):
I just spent five Yeah.
Speaker 2 (27:08):
Well you shouldn't have. Then you knew what this what
could happen? God, So there's that to think about. This
course is Palm Sunday. Next week is Easter Sunday, meaning
the Cup Series is going to take their one week
off this season. However, the Infinity and the Truck Series
(27:31):
are going to go to the recently repaved Rockingham track.
Do we know has there been any testing? Do we
have any idea how fast they're going to be going
on that one hair over one mile track.
Speaker 3 (27:46):
Yeah, they've they've tested there about a month ago, I
believe it was. It was it was a two day test.
One day they had a little bit of weather so
they didn't at the full day. And I talked Luke
Fenos about a little bit yesterday because he's going to
run that race next week, and he said it is
going to be.
Speaker 4 (27:58):
Just badass fast.
Speaker 3 (28:00):
I mean, oh neat, faster than any and the Truck series,
you know, new payment something they've never experienced there. I'm
talking with Toby a little bit yesterday too. He said
the same thing that Ty said that the truck His
truck was really good there as well. But the speeds
are going to be just remarkable, so it'd be interesting
to see. Hopefully it's not too fast that you can't pass.
That's the worry that the ARCA Series is also there,
(28:22):
so by the time the Infinity cars get on there,
there should be a lot of laps.
Speaker 2 (28:25):
A little worried about the oil on the track.
Speaker 3 (28:27):
Yeah, A little worried about the Truck series because they're
the first one to run their race. They race at
I think it's about five o'clock Friday evening and there's
no lights there, so they're gonna be running right up
against you know, the daylight hours, but TV dictates all that.
But hopefully by the time the Infinity Series gets out,
there to be enough rubber down on the race track
that it'll be some conducive racing, because I always love
that track, but it was always a tire of management
(28:49):
race and I don't think we're going to have that.
Speaker 2 (28:51):
If I remember right, is is this the track that
Casey Kane is coming back for? I think he's going
to race. I have to look in my notes, but
I think he's coming back.
Speaker 7 (29:00):
I think it is.
Speaker 4 (29:01):
Yeah, I believe.
Speaker 2 (29:02):
So that's good stuff. It was always a neat trek,
just a little bit over a one mile track and
high banked, and now with fresh blacktop, it'll be one
hell of a show, that's for sure.
Speaker 3 (29:17):
And looking at the sales for the tickets, now they
don't have the backstretch grandstands and the grand stands in
turns one and two like they had before a lot
of those have been sold over the years and moved
to other locations, but the entire front stretch is still there,
and there are a lot of tickets sold for this race,
so it looks like you're gonna have a really good
crowd for both Friday and Saturday.
Speaker 4 (29:34):
So that's that's good to see.
Speaker 2 (29:36):
Excellent stuff. We're happy you're tuned in. We're gonna sneak

App Man Welcome back, Glad, you can join us. They're
talking about Matt Weaver, who's on top of things. He
gets people whispering in his ear. He put out this
week that there's going to be a non NASCAR owned
(32:03):
track that is going to be repaved and get the
Atlanta treatment, which turns that, of course, into a super speedway.
Atlanta was a one and a half mile or is
a one and a half mile track, so it can
go that fast. But who you know, everybody immediately thought
it was going to be Homestead. That's a NASCAR track,
(32:25):
isn't it.
Speaker 6 (32:26):
It started out if you sometimes you go through like
the Reddit online stuff, you see all kinds of crazy
rumors and all kinds of things come up there.
Speaker 7 (32:33):
That's kind of where it started.
Speaker 6 (32:34):
That it was going to be a track was going
to get every configuration like Atlanta. It was going to
be a mile and a half track that produces good
finishes and good racing people like, and that's why people
started going to Homestead. Well, then the NASCAR official came
out and said, I think it was Mike Ford came
out and said, well, all I can say about that
is not a NASCAR tracks, So others those people are thinking, well,
maybe there is some truth to this.
Speaker 7 (32:53):
It must be an SMI track.
Speaker 3 (32:54):
Then yeah, right, So that leaves you with if you
look at the SMI tracks a mile and a halfs that.
Speaker 4 (33:00):
Are available to do this with. You have Vegas, which I.
Speaker 3 (33:05):
Don't I don't think if there's a possibility of Vegas
hosting the Championship race down the road, which we talked
about a couple weeks ago, I don't think you want
that track to be like Atlanta, right, a crapshoot drafting
the race.
Speaker 4 (33:18):
No.
Speaker 3 (33:19):
So then that leaves Texas, which a lot of people
think about and agree that Texas needed some work. The
new car race is a little better on Texas now
than the old car. Did you know you had the
closest finish in the history of NASCAR last year at
the Infinity Race. There there's one other track out there.
Probably nobody's thinking about that. SMI owns Kentucky. Kentucky's just
sitting there. The racing there was god awful always.
Speaker 4 (33:41):
Is that a place that.
Speaker 3 (33:42):
You think they want to, you know, start racing there
again and maybe open that market and think about racing
that part of the country. Really, you had Indianapolis and
you got Bristol, you know, kind of within the realm
of it.
Speaker 2 (33:53):
But I agree one hundred percent about that part of it.
But of course, being an SMI track, they're going to
have to take a date away from themselves somewhere else, right.
Speaker 3 (34:03):
So you have two races at Atlanta, you have a
race at Texas, but also the date SMI's date is
the one that's at Koda, so you have you have
two of those, So you kind of have four races
at two different locations to play with if you were
to go back to Kentucky.
Speaker 4 (34:18):
This is just me.
Speaker 3 (34:19):
Thinking off the cuff here because it's going to take
a while to do this. So do you want to
do it at a track that you currently race at,
you know, Texas races. You know later in the year,
are you going to have time to do it? If
you go to a track that's currently not being used,
spruce it up, get it configured how.
Speaker 4 (34:34):
You want it.
Speaker 3 (34:35):
I mean all the stands are still there. They didn't
take anything away, and then roll out at the new track.
I don't know, just thinking.
Speaker 2 (34:41):
Bring hello, Todd. It's uh, it's s M I and
NASCAR and we're just want your opinion on what we
what you think we should do. Well, I think you
should get rid of that Koda race because I think
we have enough road courses, and I think you got
to go to Let's go to Kentucky. Why not? You
got a nice track there, Cincinnati is a nice market.
(35:03):
Why not middle of the country. Everybody can go as
lights place as lights. Oh that's right. But but Todd Parking,
as you remember, was a Charlie foxtrot. Well, yeah, I know.
But you know you got a lot of time to
get that figured out, don't you. It didn't work last time.
Speaker 4 (35:21):
Well we'll figure it out.
Speaker 2 (35:23):
You got time to work on it.
Speaker 13 (35:25):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (35:25):
Here's plus NASCAR. We kind of knew this that NASCAR
has their own series that races in Mexico. That way
they get to own it. To see the NASCAR Mexico
Series and they I don't know how many races they
have that you don't hear much about it. Really, you
don't hear who the winners are. They don't talk about
it up here. They don't publicize anything. Is it one race?
(35:49):
Is it more than one race? Well, whatever it is,
they're expanding. They're going to Panamama racetracks. Happened in September. Oh,
there's going to be a race there in September. It's
the Mexican drivers are going to race in Panama. Are
there any Panamanian race guard drivers?
Speaker 4 (36:08):
Is there a racetrack?
Speaker 3 (36:09):
There?
Speaker 2 (36:10):
Is there a race track there?
Speaker 14 (36:14):
Dan?
Speaker 4 (36:14):
Do you know of a racetrack of Panama? Nope?
Speaker 7 (36:17):
I know a canal is there and that's about it.
Speaker 5 (36:19):
Yeah, Well, they'll have a heck of a music for
it with Van Halen.
Speaker 2 (36:24):
Well he's there, and Halen's in Mexico. Sorry, he's over
at the Cabo San Lucas.
Speaker 13 (36:35):
Well.
Speaker 2 (36:35):
Anyway, we'll see how this. I'm just wondering why NASCAR,
if they have a Mexico series, do we not hear
anything about it? Nothing? I mean, you know, is it
publicized in the Mexico City News.
Speaker 5 (36:49):
I've heard stuff about it over the years and just
never really follow it because I don't know any of
the drivers Todd.
Speaker 3 (36:54):
You and I watched one of the races once, remember
absolutely that's when Daniel Swartez coming up.
Speaker 2 (37:00):
Yeah, and and I went over to swear as I
said something about living in Mexico. Guy goes, no, man,
I live in sh Charlotte. Oh okay, okay, never mind.
So you know, the Mexico Series drivers that want to
move up into the NASCAR Series got to move to
Charlotte and then they'll be fine.
Speaker 5 (37:18):
With their Chevy peakup.
Speaker 2 (37:22):
That's how that works. Here's a note that came through
this week that I was I guess we're not surprised
at all. Bobby Pierce, the noted late model dirt track
driver who's done just spectacular things over the last couple
of years, was in a conversation with Richard Childress and
the money that we that Childress told him it would
(37:44):
take to race one year in the trucks kind of
coincides with some other numbers we have heard. You want
to race one year in a Richard Childress truck, you
gotta pay for it with for three and a half
million dollars, and there's your schedule, and uh, what exactly
do you get for three and a half million? Well,
(38:05):
a truck that could win.
Speaker 4 (38:08):
And the late model.
Speaker 6 (38:10):
That's probably back when the Children's had trucks that ran.
I mean right, I don't think they have trucks in
the series anymore. And then years ago, but Bobby Pearis
is looking at some pavement stuff. Remember he did some
races and didn't really turn off to race and slinger. Yeah, so,
and I think a lot of those dirt guys were
looking that way back then. Remember uh the one car
Bryan Josh Ri Richards, he tried that then and then
(38:34):
go so well Macready, I think he had a couple rides,
right yep.
Speaker 3 (38:36):
McCready ran for Childress for a while. I saw him
race at Michigan in the ARCA series there. Now, now,
this dirt side stuff is has taken such an uplift
in the last probably since COVID when they've really just
increased their purses tremendously and the merchandise sales is crazy.
I mean, you talked to somebody. You know, Larson has
talked about this before that he makes more money on
(38:57):
his apparel in spread car racing and the other things
that he does that that matches what his you know,
some of his salaries over the years have been in
NASCAR's salaries up a lot now since he's won the championship,
but before that championship, I mean, these guys are making money.
I mean there's there's guys just the dome alone in
Saint Louis's past December when the dirt racing was there,
(39:19):
Jonathan Davenport sold six figures worth of merchandise.
Speaker 4 (39:23):
Oh why that's where it's not the only ones that's bananas.
Speaker 2 (39:29):
That's crazy. Yeah, well, they they raced on this Bristol
track and the Truck Series and the Exfinity Series. Plus
there's been some pretty outstanding racing going on around this country,
including right in Wisconsin yesterday. We'll talk all about them
and some other results. When we come back.

Dirt track racing finally got underway in the state of Wisconsin.
I'm trying to think back over the years of how
many times tracks were actually able to open on the
date they scheduled to open, and this this year, for
some reason, it actually worked out perfectly. It was snowing
on Wednesday, but we were racing on Friday. Chilton, Wisconsin,
the Gravity Park Speedway was the first track to get
underway in the state. In the their opening night of competition,
(42:32):
and the modifieds Marcus Hotner was Your winner at Grand
Nationals went to Jeff Mulbauer. Stock cars Tyler Wilson, and
the sport mods went to Cole Thomas. Over in Iowa,
Webster City, Iowa, the Hamilton County Speedway. The USMTS Modified
were there. Rodney Sanders was your winner down in Putnamville,
Indiana the Lincoln Park Speedway. The USAC Amazonela National Sprint
cars were there. Kyle Cummins was your winner over in
p Lee, Missouri, the I fifty five Speedway. For the
(42:55):
World of out Lawns Engineering Sprint Car series. Carson Mesito
grabbed the win there Donal Wheitland, Missouri the Lucas Oil Speedway,
the series formerly known as the Lucas Oil MLRA which
is now gone, but now they're going to race anyway.
Unsanctioned seven thousand dollars to win a two day special.
Hudson O'Neill was your winner on Friday Night there Farmer City,
Illinois for the World of out Law Late Models the
(43:16):
Alliani one hundred. For the first time I think in
modern memory, two years in a row, this race went
off without a hitch Night Number one twelve thousand dollars
to win. Ethan Dotson, a rookie on the World of
Outlaw circuit, picked up the feature win there. That was
very impressive victory by him. The Extreme Outlaw Midgets were
the undercard. Jacob Denny was your winner and the UNP
Modified went to Mike McKinney. Last night up at Francis Kirk, Wisconsin.
(43:38):
They opened up their season at the one to forty
one Speedway with a jaw dropping one hundred and.
Speaker 4 (43:44):
Eighty two cars and only fives.
Speaker 3 (43:48):
The IMCA Modified's Johnny Whitman was your Winner and the
IMCA Stock Cars went to Phil Mott. Over at New Richmond, Wisconsin,
the City of Lakes Speedway opened up as scheduled last night.
In the late models, James Yasse was your winner, the
Sorry Limited Lates went to Cade Nelson, and the modifieds
went to Blake Adams. Night number two in Webster City,
Iowa at the Hamilton County Speedwork for the USMTS Modifieds,
Ridney Sanders made it a clean sweep Lawrenceburg, Indiana. For
(44:11):
the usac Amzella National Sprint Cars. Justin Grant grabbed the
win Nate number two for the World of Outlaws Sprint
Cars in p Vlee Missouri's I fifty five speedway Logan
Shoeheart grabbed the win. Fayetteville, North Carolina. They had a
six oh two late model race put on by XR,
fifty thousand dollars to win in a six h two
dirt late model and Dalton Wilson put one in his
(44:34):
one of his cars and took home the money. Something
race is probably designed for the little guy to win,
but you know, you get that one Lucas Oil guy
that says I'll go do it, and he took their money. Wheatland, Missouri,
night number two of the Spring Nationals for the late models,
twenty thousand dollars to win.
Speaker 4 (44:47):
That went to Hudson O'Neal.
Speaker 3 (44:48):
And finally down in Farmer City, Illinois, the second night
of the Eliani one hundred sixty laps. They ran forty
laps Friday, sixty laps on Saturday. That equals one hundred
for those tough at math twenty thousand dollars to win.
Brandon Shepherd took the Rocket one house car to Victory Lane.
They have struggled mightily for the last year and a
half in that Rocket one houset car. Great to see
them get a victory last night and they picked up
(45:10):
the win. In the outlaw midgets, Carter Sarf was the
winner and the modifieds went to Michael Ledford. And that's
everything for this week.
Speaker 2 (45:18):
Is that the same Cole Thomas that used to race
had slinger number ninety one.
Speaker 4 (45:22):
Yes it is, I believe it is. He's a dirt guy,
though I think he's a sport mine now, okay, all right.
Speaker 5 (45:28):
And then for the asphalt side of things, ASA Southern
Super Series ran at Mobile, Alabama. Your winner was Bubba Pollard.
Speaker 2 (45:35):
Car's Tour.
Speaker 5 (45:36):
At Cordial Motor Speedway in Georgia, Tristan McKee won the
Prolate Models. Twelve year old Keelan Harvick finished fifth in
that Pro Late Model race. In the Late Model stock
Car series, Connor Hall was the winner Mini Tyrell Landon
Huffman Landon Lewis and Connor Jones rounded at the top five.
(45:56):
Michael Hind was there running a Lee Pulliam car and
he finished eight. Dale Earnhardt Junior was in the field
got wrecked, but he ended up twenty first. And then,
of course, as everyone was aware, we had racing fire
into life again this weekend at Dell's Raceway Park for
the ice Breaker, You guys were all there except Todd
(46:17):
and the six o twos. It was Danny Church the winner,
John DeAngelis Junior, John Lemke, Dennis Prunting and Ethan Rose
were your top five. In the Midwest Truck Series, Grant
Greaseback was the winner, Chester Ace, Nick Van, Brandon Reichenberger
and Parker Caine were your top five there. And then
in the super Lates, Luke Fennhouse was the winner. Tristan Swanson,
(46:42):
John DeAngelis Junior, Ryan Ferrell, and Casey Johnson rounded out.
Speaker 2 (46:47):
The top five.
Speaker 11 (46:49):
Is he that?
Speaker 5 (46:50):
And for Luke, huh, yeah, because he also sorry, I've
got Toby here and he's trying to talk and I can't.
Speaker 2 (46:57):
Dan, which one of you talked to me?
Speaker 4 (47:00):
He drove?
Speaker 2 (47:00):
They drove all night.
Speaker 7 (47:01):
I guess that was Brian.
Speaker 6 (47:02):
Brian talked to him Victory Lane because he did drive
from the race from Bristol right to the tills.
Speaker 4 (47:07):
Yeah, I said, I said that, Luke.
Speaker 3 (47:08):
I said, you know, you drove all the way back
here because you could tell he was he probably could
use some sleep, you know, And he's like, yeah, as
soon as the race was over, we hopped in the
car and it's like a twelve hour drive and I
fell asleep and someone told me we made up like
two hours and I'm like, whoa, Well, now you are
gaining an hour on the way back because of the
time zone switch.
Speaker 2 (47:24):
Yeah, but that's a lot of time to make him.
Somebody was going over the speed limit.
Speaker 4 (47:28):
Or his watch wasn't that good one or the other?
Speaker 2 (47:32):
Amazing, amazing you you both of you guys were there.
Dan ran the camera for the event. It sounded like
Luke had a pretty good car.
Speaker 4 (47:41):
Huh, yeah he did. Yeah, started ninth.
Speaker 3 (47:43):
I mean there was a lot of carnage at the
beginning of that race that took out some of the
you know, good cars that you figure we're going to
compete for the win in that so that that opened
it up a little bit for him.
Speaker 4 (47:52):
But he still drove to the front and fighted his time.
Speaker 3 (47:54):
And the only other car I thought really was gonna
maybe have a shot at him was Casey Johnson because
he seemed to be laying back in the weeds and
saving his stuff, but he just never was able to
put on that charge at the end.
Speaker 4 (48:04):
Bryan Farrell had a good car, ran at the front
for a while.
Speaker 3 (48:06):
Jordan Boy was at the front for a while, so overall,
once they got spread out and started racing, it was
a pretty decent competition.
Speaker 6 (48:13):
Hey, you kind of want to give a shout out
to Pen Salader for his first super Light race. I
thought he had a pretty good run seventh place, finished
qualified seventh, star on the front row outside pull and
finished seventh in his first event and get some pretty
good cars.
Speaker 3 (48:26):
And that was after a very inauspicious start to his
qualifying run. He came out on the track and started
scrubbing his tires and I don't know what was going
on there, Probably nerves, but he's like scrubbing his tires
and trying to go at the same time. Lost it
and backed it in the fence in turn three coming
to the green for his qualifying lap, so he had
to go back in. They repaired the car, went back
out and still lay down a good lap. I went
(48:47):
in the pits right after qualifying and Johnny was all
smiles then because he laid down the good lap and said, yeah,
it's a learning curve. You gotta when you go out there,
you gotta scrub your tires and then go. You can't
do them both at the same time. So he's learning first.
Speaker 2 (48:59):
That was his first super late model race, wasn't it Yep?
Speaker 14 (49:03):
Yep?
Speaker 3 (49:03):
And they got there late on Friday, so he only
got about fifty laps in on Friday, and he did
about thirty laps yesterday of practice.
Speaker 7 (49:09):
So funny.
Speaker 6 (49:10):
There's a black car they put a five on it
and by after qualifying, then he gets some more from stripes.
Speaker 7 (49:15):
They were like, you know, stickering the car as the
day went on.
Speaker 2 (49:19):
Yeah, unbelievable. We'll talk a little more about the Exfinity
and the truck series after we sneak away for a break.
We're glad you're tuned in. LTN returns right after these.

Welcome back to the program. Friend Toby Noodleman is joining
us for this segment too, so nice to have here.
I just wanted to say. Kyle Larson won the Infinity
Race yesterday. Carson Quopple finished second. Kind of best in
class for a non driver named Kyle Larson and the
(52:18):
Truck Series on Friday, Chandler Smith was the winner. Kyle
Larson finished second in that one. Ty Majeski was involved
in some kind of an issue, and I guess because
I was at the Brewer game, like I mentioned, and
I didn't see it. Luke Fenhouse ended up twenty second
in that one. Do you what happened to Tye anyway? Toby,
(52:41):
I didn't see it.
Speaker 14 (52:43):
He started it and he was up to second and
the just passed for second.
Speaker 17 (52:52):
Frankie Muneez, Well, I don't want to say nothing bad,
but you should have stuck to acting right.
Speaker 14 (52:59):
No, he was there too, because.
Speaker 17 (53:01):
He's like, he was like fifty I don't know, fifty
some laps in and he's gonna be He's going to
be lapped.
Speaker 14 (53:09):
And ty made a mistake. He thought he was gonna
go high. He went high and turn left and took.
Speaker 6 (53:17):
People coming up a couple of good with that. He
was so slow and they were coming up on him
to lap him, and I think it was a tie
and Brandon Jones they were gonna split him. Brandon Jones
went high, Ty went low. Malcolm didn't stay in the middle.
He came down and Ty got him.
Speaker 2 (53:31):
Ah, that's a good one.
Speaker 14 (53:33):
That's a good way to put it.
Speaker 8 (53:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (53:36):
I saw on X all the complaints about the coverage.
Apparently Jamie Little is not a very highly regarded lead announcer.
She's great in the pits, but my god, people are
just trashing the hell out her. I don't know how
bad it was. I did notice from my place at
(53:57):
A and An establishment before we went into the Brewer game,
trying to watch on my phone, which isn't a really
good idea because I can't here Bailey Curry. I'm going,
who the hell is in that forty four truck? I
don't you know Bailey Curry running at the front late
in the race. I don't know what happened there? Anybody
do we know what happened to Bailey Curry?
Speaker 9 (54:18):
No?
Speaker 2 (54:18):
Okay, Well, he was up.
Speaker 6 (54:19):
He got caught in the I think Erek later on.
But he ran up front most of the race, and
good for Alms actually did a pretty good job staying
up there. But of course does it you know, push
came of shoving things happened? Then he can shovel out
of there.
Speaker 2 (54:31):
Toby, who were you helping yesterday.
Speaker 14 (54:35):
Derreck Meyer and a truck.
Speaker 2 (54:39):
Those six oh two's, That doesn't seem like there's a
lot of passing. I know that's the same engine in
both the trucks and the sixho two late models, and
what we had one leader in each each race.
Speaker 8 (54:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 17 (54:50):
Well, all I'm gonna say is they ain't got enough
power to hit the other guy to wreck them.
Speaker 14 (54:58):
So say they ran a whole lot cleaner race in
the supers. That's what I'm going to say.
Speaker 3 (55:05):
Yeah, I think if they had horns in those trucks,
you'd hear them all day long because guys just bump bump, bump,
bump bump, and you couldn't get by them. I mean,
James Swan looked like he was in traffic in downtown
Chicago and couldn't get anywhere.
Speaker 2 (55:18):
Yeah, well, we know what the issue is. The good
news about those engines is that they are affordable and
it is creating better cock. What, well, they had thirty
some trucks, didn't they thirty two? Yeah, so it's a
nice number that and I think the six or two
laid models also are on the comeback to the You know,
(55:39):
how much are those engines do.
Speaker 17 (55:41):
We know though, bud eight grand. You know, you gotta
address them and put a bunch of stuff on. You
probably got ten grand into them when you're done.
Speaker 2 (55:50):
And they're pretty strict about them though.
Speaker 17 (55:51):
They Yeah, there's not this this truck, particular truck, it
hasn't been race a lot, but the motor's been in
it for years, three four years. Tie race at like
four or five years ago. I mean, we have a
six to oz four in are limited light, which is
the same basic thing, only with liuminum ads a little
more power. That's what we started with more or less
(56:14):
with tie and we won. That thing's probably got We
ran it like four or five years and we've got
I'll bet you we got three hundred races on that thing.
Speaker 14 (56:26):
I mean, it's crazy.
Speaker 2 (56:28):
What would you say would be an estimate of the
engine what it costs Luke Fennhouse to have an engine
that was capable of winning at the Dells yesterday?
Speaker 14 (56:40):
Thirty to thirty five thousand. I don't know which.
Speaker 17 (56:44):
I don't know which one he had in He's got
an old he's got one old and I know he's
got one old motor that been around for years. That's
part of the two barrel thing. They you know, they
last longer. And everybody thinks you got to have a
four barrel motor to run a you know, like the Slinger.
You know you gotta have a special motor to go
(57:06):
to you gotta have a special basically, you gotta have
a special motor, two barrel motor to keep up. Well,
I run the same motor and everything. We have parts motors,
we have sealed motors. It's the same motor. I just
change the carburetor. So if you gotta, if you think
you gotta put lighter parts in it, because you can
with a two barrel, because it's basically a hundred less
(57:29):
horsepower right from a four to two.
Speaker 14 (57:32):
Why we just run the same stuff whatever.
Speaker 2 (57:37):
There is that promo being a novice and engine things.
To me, it's it's easier to get around Slinger with
a two barrel. It's it's easier attacking the corners. I
don't know.
Speaker 17 (57:51):
Well, yeah, I say, when you know a four barrel,
you know you're not going to be able to pretty
much put it right on the floor. When when you
come off the corner and you're gonna carry a whole
lot of speed down a straight away and then all
of it's gonna be Oh ship, here comes the corner
and now you're gonna use a lot of breaks. You
(58:12):
know you're gonna you're gonna melt the brakes out of it.
Speaker 2 (58:15):
All right, Well, we're getting short on time. We're gonna
go and do our picks, and Toby, you're gonna be
able to Why don't you give us the first? You
can be first today for the Bristol Show. I'll take
Kyle Lars Okay, that's easy. I think I'm gonna go
with Kyle Busch because Kyle cannot keep losing. He's got
(58:35):
to win sooner or later. This is a good place
for him.
Speaker 7 (58:38):
Dan keeping the role going the eleven card any handling, Okay.
Speaker 2 (58:45):
I hope you're wrong, Brian twenty, Christopher Bell, Yeah, it's
you know, at the end of this race likely, I
think we're gonna look at the five and the twenty
battling it out at the end, and it's gonna be
pretty good. And then they'll be thinking, ry, I wish
I was on this place again or not. Anyway, Hey,
thanks for tuning in. Here's what we want you to remember.
