Speaker 1 (00:09):
The lt AT Hour.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Let's talk Nascar with your host Todd Bayling, co hosts
Brian Schmidt, PJ. Newedleman, and producer Dangerous Dan Margetta. Call
the show anytime at four one four four two one
seventy nine h one. And now the creator and host
of the fastest hour in.

Speaker 1 (00:31):
Radio, Todd Bailing, and welcome to the program. As we
begin the playoffs, I have made a command decision that
I'm not gonna call them the playoffs anymore. Mark Martin
was right. This isn't a game. It's racing, and this
is the chase for the cop. Hello there everyone, Todd

(00:55):
Bailing in Greendale, Wisconsin, joined by my partners who are
still up in the north Woods, well we can't call
it north Woods, exactly where they were last left over
from last night watching the race up at Dell's Raceway Park.
Dan Margetta and Brian Schmidt are together in a hotel.

(01:15):
Oh my, yeah, I know. Well there's yeah, there's quite
a story to this. I don't know if you want
to hear the story now or later later?

Speaker 3 (01:23):
Hey later.

Speaker 4 (01:24):
Yes, we're in Moston, Wisconsin because it's a holiday weekend.
We're up here for the Jim cut classic. Last night,
Dell's was packed. You couldn't you couldn't get any hotel
rooms up there. So we went a little bit to
the north. So we're up here in Boston, Wisconsin, hanging
out at the quality inn nice.

Speaker 5 (01:42):
And worked for a good night. Had to work at
the race last night and came up here. Didn't make
much sense to drive back to Milwaukee to go to
Slanger today, so I'm gonna go to Slinger from here.
And that's how we did it.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
I used to do stuff like that. PJ. Newdleman over
on the other side of the state. By the way,
I went right on the other side of the river
from you this last week. I waved. I don't know
if you saw me.

Speaker 6 (02:02):
I moaned you did you not see me?

Speaker 1 (02:04):
No, I missed it. And we took the train up
to Minneapolis, which was our Saint Paul actually, which was
big fun.

Speaker 7 (02:10):
But well, you would have gone right by me then
because we are right along the river. So yeah, well,
not like I could throw a stone too, but I
can see the trains going by.

Speaker 1 (02:19):
I'll be done.

Speaker 8 (02:19):
Well.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
Yeah, as we all get ready for Darlington today. This
is this is pretty cool stuff. It's a it's a
night race. They do this because it's a holiday weekend
and of course tomorrow being Labor Day. To all the
folks that work in this country, thank goodness you're still
working and keeping this whole country propped up. And it's

(02:42):
a tip of the cap to those who who work
for a living. And so they're going to have a
five o five start tonight on USA forecast is pretty good. Seventies.
How about that Darlington at this time of year. Seventies
with a thirty percent chance of rain, which would be Oh,

(03:02):
can you imagine this is a long race? It's but
you know, three hundred and sixty seven laps, Eh, that's
a long race. The southern five hundred? Do we call I?
Now that we back the two races?

Speaker 2 (03:18):
Are?

Speaker 1 (03:19):
You know? Darlington can be very confusing for me. It
sure is a show place, the oldest track we have,
and it's a wonderful place to do a race, and
one that really means a lot. Denny Hamlin on the
pole at one hundred and seventy one point three eight
one miles an hour, went around in twenty eight point
sixty nine seconds. The segments are on lap one, fifteen

(03:41):
and two thirty it's a three sixty seven lapper, and
it looks as though those Go Joe Gibbs cars are
at the top of the chart here and the best
in qualifying. Anyway, It's a long race, there's a lot
that can happen, lots of strategy, lots of things to
worry about, and it's going to be very entertaining, and

(04:04):
of course I have my uh I always want to
call it the VCR, but it really isn't anymore. I'm
going to record the race and watch it tomorrow if
there's anything important that happened, because I'll be at Slinger
Speedway tonight, one of my few times at Slinger this
this year. It's going to be a big night. The
Super Late Model Championship will be determined tonight, so big

(04:27):
night at the old Track and big fun for everybody involved.
They have been racing this weekend. The trucks raced at Darlington.
Corey him won it. By god, I mean, is this
guy just in a different.

Speaker 4 (04:43):
Class or goodness for the playoffs and the truck series
or that'd be over already. I'm no kidding if you're
if you just took a look at what he's done
this year under the old format. I mean it would
be sign sealed and delivered.

Speaker 1 (04:55):
Amazing. It's absolutely amazing, Ty Majeski for ha in a
bad race, what happened to him exactly?

Speaker 7 (05:04):
The forty five car who was now Bailey Curry ended
up hitting the wall and a bunch of junk came
off of the car and he ended up rolling over
a piece of it and got.

Speaker 6 (05:13):
A flat tire, so he had to pit. But it
was like maybe six laps left in that.

Speaker 7 (05:19):
That stage, so he went a lap down and then
that see still had enough time to get back up,
but he was kind of off cycle with everybody else,
had five more laps on his tires and everybody else,
and it kind of matters at this track. But anyway,
he ended up charging back and persevering then finished fourth.

Speaker 1 (05:36):
How about that he took the waiverund right champions Yeah,
he took the waiver round.

Speaker 9 (05:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (05:42):
Then saved the tires in the second stage so he
can get the position for the third stages, have a
shot at something. And he went from like seventeenth to
fourth in the end.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
YEP.

Speaker 7 (05:50):
And I liked hearing Harvarck say that's that's that's what
a championship has made of right there is hitting.

Speaker 1 (05:55):
Can you imagine the crying if Corey Heim doesn't win
this championship after having such a dominant season.

Speaker 6 (06:01):
They were crying last year.

Speaker 4 (06:03):
You know, I only chance of winning it at Phoenix
if you think about it, because there's four.

Speaker 6 (06:08):
And Tie is really good at Phoenix.

Speaker 1 (06:10):
If he can make it, they're really good in Phoenix.
And wouldn't that be all like crying already? This system
is terrible.

Speaker 5 (06:21):
Imagine going to Phoenix and having a shot Ties in
the thing you get twenty five percent. What if Pulsavar
gets in a truck, then what happens? Hmm?

Speaker 6 (06:32):
You'd probably take everybody out.

Speaker 1 (06:34):
That's the X factor right there. The Exfinity Series raced
on the other side of the country Portland. Uh and
you know the state of Oregon. You think there there
aren't a whole lot of major league events out there.
They've got a basketball team and that's pretty much in right,
So they have themselves the Exfinity Series, not the major leagues,
but it's a pretty big deal. If you're a motorsports fan,

(06:54):
you'd think that place would be overrun with race fans.
When it wasn't. It looked like it does usually, but
Connor Zillish wins the pole. Connor Zillish dominates the race
at the end. It made it really interesting when Austin
Hill got by him and the car he started rubbing

(07:14):
tires and I thought, oh my god, can you imagine
after dominating like this having an issue at the end.
And he came back on another caution, one last caution
and got ahead.

Speaker 5 (07:23):
And what can't figure out that that he missed that corner.
I mean he took the shortcut. Now, they said to
taking the shortcut apparently is good enough of a penalty
in there. But before when you even missed the corner
on a road course back to like the bus stop
at Walkins Glenn East, to have to come to a
complete stop. He missed the chicane at Daytona in the
twenty four hour sports car race, you got to stop completely.

(07:43):
He just drove straight too, and they said that was
good enough.

Speaker 4 (07:45):
I slalom those blocks just a little bit, and I
guess I know it doesn't It doesn't seem right because
I would do that every lap if that was the case.

Speaker 1 (07:53):
It seemed like you didn't. You certainly didn't lose any
time doing it. But little Chicane there and several cars
did it, and then they went back to NASCAR. Are
you sure we're okay, Yes, that's fine, We're good. Oh, okay.

Speaker 3 (08:06):
So the defense of the people in Portland.

Speaker 4 (08:08):
Just two weeks ago, they had their IndyCar race there too,
and there was a really large crowd for that. So
it kind kind on the same system that Milwaukee had
last year. We got the trucks one week in your
indy car, the next week. It was reversed for them.
They had IndyCar first and then the trucks right away.
Why you compound those schedules, I don't know, but that
hurts the tenants a little.

Speaker 1 (08:26):
As much as it was impressive that Connor Zillish won
that race, you have to remember how long ago was
it that he had collar bones surgery.

Speaker 5 (08:36):
Two weeks, two weeks, three weeks.

Speaker 1 (08:38):
That's wild. Oh to be nineteen again. I guess that
has something to do with it. But by the way,
Carson Quopple locked himself into the playoffs with a sixth
place finish, and this rookie season is going all right
for Cuoppole. Probably he would say, you know, he was

(09:00):
hoping that he would have even been better but I
don't know that anyone saw this coming out of Connor Zilish.
I mean, I know that there was a lot of hype,
but he's living up to the hype folks, and he's
coming to the Cup Series next year at the ripe
old age of twenty. Joey Logano actually said that kid
is further ahead and his development than I was at

(09:21):
that age. And you know, sliced bread they called him.
He was a can't miss. Of course, that's been the case,
hasn't it. So it's interesting stuff. Zillish, what a star
and he's on his way to the Cup Series. This
first race for the playoffs, we have to start thinking
about some things. The first round begins today and we

(09:43):
are going to have to think about which drivers may
not make it through. And we all made our picks,
but we didn't compare notes and we're going to find
out with each other who's going to do that. Plus
we have our final four written down for the champion
Chip and uh, oil boy, there's usually a surprise or

(10:05):
three in the cat it'll be fun to watch. We're
glad you're tuned in here on this Labor Day weekend
and we'll be back right after these what's an excitement

Speaker 1 (12:37):
Game Welcome back to LTN. Derek Krause is going to
be in tonight's race. I thought i'd remind folks of that.
He'll be in the number forty four cars starting at
the back of the field. He's in the show, so
good for him and good luck and all of that.
This was I probably the worst possible timing for NASCAR,

(13:02):
who wants all the attention to be on their playoffs
or as we call it, the chase. But of course
this week it was a huge week in court. They're
doing this thing called Discovery. Boy. If you didn't know
what discovery was before, you're figuring it out now. That's
where they discover all the things that they said about

(13:26):
each other in private. How the hell does that happen?
How does this all come out in court? How do
they get a list of each other's text messages and
then give it to the press so we can bitch
about it. Unbelievable some of the things that have been said,
and there's lots that we can discuss here. First of all,

(13:47):
Michael Jordan six NBA Championships, five times most Valuable Player,
arguably the greatest basketball player that ever lived. And he
may be a better busy biness man, then he was
a basketball player against against of all people on the
same side, Joe Gibbs, three Super Bowls with three different quarterbacks,

(14:10):
unheard of being able to do something like that. And
they face off against each other and MJ calls Joe
Gibbs an effort.

Speaker 6 (14:16):
Ah, my virgineers.

Speaker 1 (14:19):
It's okay, we've heard it before. That wasn't it though.
The rest of them, the rest of the owners, he
called pussy's for signing the agreement when NASCAR said, listen,
you don't have to sign it, but then you're not
going to compete, so sign it now, and they did,
all except for a front row and twenty three to eleven,
and boy, oh boy, Michael Jordan has made it known.

(14:44):
I lost that much in a casino already. I'm not
worried about what this is going to cost. Let's continue
until we get to court. This is going to be
an absolute disaster for our sport. I think if they
make it to court, now, why would that be? Dan
must much of it has to do with I think

(15:06):
with opening those books.

Speaker 5 (15:07):
That's got to be all it is now. I mean,
he saw how much got left off and it's just
an injunction hearing. Imagine the full trial when everything becomes
public and everything gets unloaded, and that's got of neither
side I think wants either of that to happen. But uh,
maybe it hurts NASCAR morph it gets to that point.
I don't know, But I don't know what kind of
like twenty three eleven in front really have to stand on.

(15:28):
In the end, it's still NASCAR's series. I get, I
get no, I get everything else out there? Can they
can they have a meal make another series? I mean
how I still don't know what where do they have?

Speaker 1 (15:44):
What? What kind of leverage is there?

Speaker 2 (15:47):
Right?

Speaker 1 (15:47):
Isn't any?

Speaker 5 (15:48):
No, there really isn't. And that was one of the
texts that was in that they released from NASCAR, That
was that their chief strategy officer, Scott Primes, and that
we have all the leverage and the teams almost have
to sign it ever terms to put in front of them.
I mean, that's that's still the case, and that's kind
of how it was from the beginning when they had
these charters. I mean, does a court deal force them
to give the charters to the teams to make them

(16:10):
own it? Is that what they're looking for? Permanent charters?

Speaker 1 (16:13):
Why are permanent charters such a huge block in this
what's wrong with making these permanent?

Speaker 6 (16:22):
NASCAR's not in control then, And what.

Speaker 3 (16:26):
Do you mean by permanent?

Speaker 4 (16:28):
I mean permanent meaning you get them forever. So then
what's your out clause When we look at the word permanent.
Just look at what happened just a few short years ago,
actually last year, when Stuart has ceased to exist. You know,
there's gonna be people that come and go in this series.
So to make something permanent, it's like, well permanent that.

Speaker 1 (16:46):
They own it and they can sell it. But it's
just the system we're talking about. What was it a
ten year deal?

Speaker 2 (16:50):
Dan?

Speaker 5 (16:51):
Yeah? They were, Yeah, it was a ten year deal
and in the next one got signed for how many years?
Was this? It coincides I think with the TV deal, right, Yeah.

Speaker 1 (16:59):
I just still not agree on more than that because
it all depends on how much money comes in from
the TV deal, right.

Speaker 3 (17:07):
Correct, Yeah, and the TV deal has a lot to
do with it.

Speaker 1 (17:11):
Okay, So here we are at an impasse, and then
we're heading for court December one, right after the season ends.
In the meantime, NASCAR threatens to sell the charters out
from underneath twenty three to eleven and front roll. So

(17:33):
then those teams ask the court tell them they can't
do that or we will be out of business. So
I don't really understand why NASCAR actually said, all right,
tell you what, We'll hold three charters each. If you
win this thing, we'll hold on to I mean, if

(17:55):
we win, we'll give you three charters each. Now, where
are they going to come from? Dan?

Speaker 5 (18:00):
Well, that's what the judge even asked, is like, if
if you are going to issue them charge, why can't
if you the ones who hold in reserve, Remember they
hold four charters in the reserve. There's thirty six charters
right now, but there's a total of forty in the agreement,
and those four are at NASCAR's discretion to issue out
should they please. And then everybody thought would be for
a new manufacturer coming in, maybe Dodge or Hyundai or
something like that, or Honda, and that those were always

(18:23):
there and wimble the ones that they're going to hold
to give to the teams should the teams win the
lawsuit would be those four that were held in reserve,
plus the two they bought from Stuart House Racing. The
four they originally had are the ones that they're talking
about reselling or issuing out to somebody else and saying
they have a lot of interest in it right now

(18:44):
they've done a lot of the names are redacted. They
did give the intention they're willing to give at least
one of those out that kind of came out this week.
Not sure to who a lot of people are really maybe, Yeah,
a lot of people speculate it was, you know, Junior
Motorsports still Junior. I don't know, is that is that
out there? It kind of makes sense so that that's

(19:04):
I think what happened in the injunction that the judge
asking them why don't you just you know, keep those
ones you have in reserve for them? Why do they
have to be the ones that that you know, you
took back from because they didn't sign the agreement led
to them saying we're going to It's kind of like
an olive branch type things. Then you should you win,
we'll give you these charters type thing. I think it's
kind of a maybe a move towards maybe we should

(19:26):
settle this before we get to court.

Speaker 1 (19:29):
In the meantime, NASCAR went to Speedway Motorsports, which is
Charlotte and a good portion of the schedule, and and
made it clear that they cannot have any other races
from any other series or they will drop them from
the schedule. Boy this is this good faith bargaining getting

(19:53):
getting this stuff in discovery, I'm not sure.

Speaker 5 (19:56):
It doesn't look good. And a lot of the documents
they had were internal documents that never really came about.
They're a strategy discussing strategies, and that was one of
them that said they discussed possibly purchasing Speedway Motorsports. And
then the big one on that one, everybody looked at
that old NASCAR it thought about buying Speedway motor Sports.
The biggest one on that document was the last bullet
point was vertical integration. That was NASCAR owning everything. They

(20:17):
talked about possibly owning all the teams and everything like that.
To come back a boycott and that would be having
to pay all the drivers a ton of money to
get out of the stuff they're doing on same with
the team owners to give that up. Remember when they
went from public to private, they spent a lot of
money to a lot of people to get to that point.
And I'm not sure that hasn't been out where it

(20:38):
all went yet and that could be a big part too,
as I can come out in this trial, it.

Speaker 1 (20:41):
Was called it's called or referred to as the Gold
Code where NASCAR owns everything. We're not done talking about
this yet, and there's lots of things that have come
out of it, including how not hell did the court
system get everybody's text? It's crazy, isn't that? We'll be

(21:02):

Speaker 1 (24:07):
Back in nineteen forty eight, I think it was when
they all got around, sat around the table, and these
businessmen all got together and decided to start sanctioning stock
car racing down in a streamline hotel in Daytona Beach
and Big Bills. Can you imagine that thinking about what

(24:29):
was going to happen far into the future, how this
has changed from how everything started with Big Bill? You
have the most successful series of anything, or when they're
dealt with with an iron fist. But what they didn't
count on, I believe is a guy like Michael Jordan,
who as great a basketball player as he was, maybe

(24:53):
a better businessman. He's brilliant, and he just comes up
with and he said it himself. It's it's better for
the teams, it's better for the fans. And NASCAR doesn't
know it yet, but it's going to be better for
them in the long term, But what are they trying
to do? Are they just looking for a bigger piece
of the pie at this point? Then? Is that what
this is all about?

Speaker 5 (25:13):
That's what I'm wondering, you know, is that you didn't
get your way in the negotiations with the charter agreement,
and the other teams kind of kind of folded on
you and and signed the deal and you didn't, So
what is did that make you mad? And now you're
doing this? And that's that's what I'm saying. When this
all the dust all settles from this, what's going to
be left? And it's got the it's got the potential
to burn everything down completely, I think. I mean, we've

(25:35):
always had arguments with teams in NASCAR. They never get
they didn't get along all the time, a lot of
times they didn't, but they never stepped out of that
that realm of losing that that focus that says, you
know what, we're all doing pretty good and it's going, okay,
now we're kind of outside that, you know.

Speaker 14 (25:49):
Well.

Speaker 1 (25:49):
But Kessler, the attorney for the twenty three to eleven
and for front Roll, has it, has put it out
there that's seventy five percent of the teams made nothing.
Now how sustainable is something like that?

Speaker 5 (26:05):
When you but I gotta look how that? How that's
figure too. I mean, if you're a company or a corporation,
salaries and all that count as a cost towards the corporation.
You know, corporation X, Y Z could lose money, but
your executive are making two million dollars a year, you know,
or something like that. It's it's you gotta see how that,
how that, how that comes into play? I mean that
that there's there's different things there.

Speaker 1 (26:26):
How's it defined?

Speaker 8 (26:28):
Right?

Speaker 1 (26:28):
Right?

Speaker 4 (26:30):
Yeah, Well there's you know, always kew numbers to make
them to your benefit. I mean if they if seventy
five percent of the teams weren't making any money, would
this even be happening? I mean, and then not making
any money, does that mean does that count the money
come in for the sponsorship too?

Speaker 3 (26:45):
So you have Hell no, it doesn't exactly. So that's
so they are making money.

Speaker 4 (26:49):
They're just the way you crunt your numbers makes it
look like you're not to add to your argument.

Speaker 1 (26:55):
If I remember, right back in the day, didn't ask
ours say this? You make your money from your sponsors.

Speaker 5 (27:01):
That was always what it used to be. It was,
you know that it was up to you to go
out and do it. But then, but then, remember NASCAR
got into the sponsorship game. They started taking some sponsors
from teams and official this and that, and that kind
of muddy the waters even further. This kind of whole
thing began in twenty sixteen. We had charters. Remember when
it was down, we said, don't go the route of
cart you know, when they split with the IndyCar and
in ten years later their first deal. We're kind of

(27:22):
on that path right now. And remember when that happened.
When did NASCAR really start to boom, Right around nineteen
ninety six to early two thousands and that and what happened,
IndyCar split and they everybody went to the NASCAR. So
if this fight goes on and takes them down, who
steps up now? I mean, there's there's gotta be something
in the wings there that that a series that could
over that, especially if we have the right drivers and

(27:43):
the right people behind it.

Speaker 6 (27:45):
Jeez, who would that be?

Speaker 8 (27:46):
Dan?

Speaker 5 (27:46):
I don't know, I mean cars too, maybe you.

Speaker 6 (27:48):
Know, oh gosh, yeah, Ours Tour.

Speaker 1 (27:51):
They're not gonna say, of course, you know what it's about.
It's about the drivers. It's where the drivers go. They
don't go there to see these cars. They don't I
don't go there to see these stupid ass wheels with
one lug nut. They don't go for all the rules
and technicals and segment winners and points that you have
no idea where they came from or what good they are. No,

(28:15):
it's all about the drivers, and that's what it's all about.

Speaker 5 (28:18):
See the thing on X from the SRX series where
they have the bear awaken up kind of thing and
they are they coming back into playing.

Speaker 1 (28:25):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, there's that. One of the things that
came out this week that I was kind of surprised
about was that if the charters are sold out from
underneath twenty three to eleven in front row, those teams
will be reimbursed for the amount of their original purchase. So,

(28:46):
in other words, NASCAR would sell the charters themselves, but
they would make sure that they reimburse those cars for
what they paid for the charters.

Speaker 5 (28:55):
And I remember too, there's always that nuclear option that
they kind of have that they're going to lose this thing,
we can just do it with charters all together.

Speaker 3 (29:02):
Right, and there's a part of me that thinks that
might be the best way to do this.

Speaker 1 (29:07):
And all these teams think they have something. They're sitting
on three charters, four charters, thinking, hey, these things are
worth upwards of fifty million dollars each, and then just
like that they could lose a two hundred million dollars.
Well it's it's on paper and you don't really.

Speaker 4 (29:26):
Lose it if the whole idea the charter system was
to guarantee team spots in a race, right, because remember
what year was it when we had was that the
mid two thousands, early two thousands, and we had more
cars than we had and every week somebody like David
Rudiman wouldn't make the race.

Speaker 5 (29:40):
Or well yeah, big name teams, and that the biggest
thing was to give them value when it was all done,
because it was a remember, petty enterprise is kind of
more certain things didn't get nothing of it. Bobby Allis
is a good example. He had a team and got
really nothing for it when it all was done. You know,
it was to give them some kind of value to
have one all of a sudden done, because the endgame
for all these guys, was was nothing. You spend all
this time and effort and money doing this, and also

(30:01):
when it was over, you had nothing to show for it.

Speaker 1 (30:03):
What I thought was interesting that came out in all
the conversations in this discovery Denny Hamlin's hatred of the
France family Rue Heap. That's pretty good.

Speaker 5 (30:16):
Dan.

Speaker 1 (30:17):
Here's a guy making his money in NASCAR, and now
he's even got a little side gig going on doing
a podcast. M you might hate him, but that's where
the money's coming from. My friend will be back.

Speaker 15 (30:30):

As a matter of fact, it is different four one

our old friend Greg and Milwaukee remembered that number. Greg.

(33:34):
Good to hear from you again.

Speaker 8 (33:36):
Yes, you know after this last two sessions that you had,
my head is spinning parts and money and all that.
That's why I called in.

Speaker 1 (33:48):
Uh.

Speaker 8 (33:49):
First of all, kudos a channel the CW eighteen. If
it wouldn't have been for them, I followed them all
year low, all spring and summer, and the Connors Village
Store is just remarkable. The way he got off track
twice yesterday and still came back to win was really special.

(34:12):
But two questions for you. Number one is why would
he be switching teams next year and going away from Junior?
And then the second question and regards Darrel Waltrip, So
what do you want to pay?

Speaker 1 (34:27):
First, well, he's not under contract to Junior Motorsports. He
is being loaned to Junior Motorsports. He's under contract to
track House and so this is just you know, I'll
tell you what. Why don't you go over by Junior
for a year, learn the way of NASCAR and then
you come, we'll give you a Cup ride next year.

(34:48):
And so that was what that was as far as
switching teams. As far as d W goes, what do
you want to know about him?

Speaker 8 (34:55):
Well, he always would criticize their a Walter for his
commentary and so forth. And yet when I watched the
Indy Car races, they have some Englishmen or whoever, and
I think that takes away from American motorsports and the

(35:17):
Indy Car racing. Daryl probably wasn't the best, but he
was fun to listen to. And this Englishman or whatever
really takes away from Indy Cars because we had really
good announcers with the Indy Car series for years and years,
the Indy five hundred and so forth. And now it
just seems like we've got all these foreigners coming in.

(35:40):
It sounds like F one racing.

Speaker 1 (35:43):
We have a new Zealander doing the Cup races.

Speaker 4 (35:46):
That's exactly where Will Buxton came from. He came from
F one. He was like right behind on Sky Sports,
so Fox was able to lure him away from there,
and he gets pretty exciting horrible move. Yeah, yeah, he's
very excitable, and I mean Lee diffy did the Indy
Car when it was with NBC, so he's tied to NBC.

Speaker 3 (36:05):
Fox had to come up with somebody to do it.

Speaker 5 (36:07):
And obviously, and Paul Page is pretty older.

Speaker 3 (36:11):
I don't even know if he's still live.

Speaker 1 (36:13):
I realized that.

Speaker 8 (36:14):
But a lot of other American good announcers, even the
one on a CW eighteen that does the Infinity Races
is really good.

Speaker 1 (36:25):
Well. Lee Diffy is a first class, world class announcer,
and I don't see an issue with him except how
he pronounces some words that are different than the way
we actually pronounce him in this country. Other than that,
though he's knowledgeable, he's entertaining, he's good. I think he's

(36:46):
good for the sport, and I don't know that that's
an issue. You just don't like hearing those accents. I
guess I'm no, I don't like him.

Speaker 8 (36:56):
It takes away from America sport racing.

Speaker 1 (36:59):
Well, Greg want to have enough. I'm not sure what
to tell you. You can always put yeah, I guess.

Speaker 5 (37:08):
You know what time we can go back to the
Bonnet is up on Bonnet's car.

Speaker 1 (37:11):
Yeah right, yeah. Think about Jackie Stewart. There's a good one.
They actually had him as an analyst on NASCAR Cup
races because they turned left and went real fast, and
apparently he knew a lot about that, and so they
talk about he'd come in and say, the bonnet is up.
What the hell are you talking about? Yeah, yeah, I'm.

Speaker 8 (37:33):
Listening and taking care of my frustration.

Speaker 1 (37:36):
This morning sounds more like a confessional than anything else.
This is a real bad alternative to church. I'll tell
you that right now. Greg, I'm glad you're still listening,
and that just sound good. All right, long time listener
and a fan of the sport. Let me tell you something.
If he's whining about the announcers, something is right here.

(37:59):
And if anybody else wants to weigh in, well we've
got some limited time. But you know the number. This
was a very interesting week because this is time of
year traditionally that they would call the silly Season, which
is was my favorite time. There'd be rumors popping up
about guys not performing and who's going to take over

(38:20):
their ride, and is that sponsor going to jump ship?
And this car owner is looking at this guy and
this guy and this guy to change and oh my god,
how's this gonna Well it's not really that way anymore.
But this week we did have one that popped up
the rumor, and don't you just love those rumors. The
rumor is that Justin Hayley is on the hot seat. Well,

(38:43):
you know, they did bring him in there because he
was supposedly the best driver available for that Spire number seven,
and he really hasn't done a damn thing. So being
on the hot seat is one thing. Who are you
going to put in it? That's the other thing. It
seems to me that the list is kind of short,

(39:04):
Like one guy got released. That's that's got Cup experience
and that might slide over there and even bring some
sponsorship with him, and that's Daniel Swarez. He's a very
popular driver. I don't know how many people, how many
fans Justin Haley brings to the sport, but Suarez certainly
is a very popular kid. And and the other name

(39:26):
was Ricky Stenhouse, and everybody sat up and went, Stenhouse,
what's up with that? Well, he's under contract through next year,
so there'd have to be a buyout from his team,
which is called Hiak So Stenhouse naturally trying they asked
him about it, he goes, I'm under contract I'm perfectly happy.

(39:49):
Blah blah blah blah. He wants to be renewed after
next years what that amounts to and as long as
they don't have anybody better to bring in, that's where
they're at. So I don't think Stenhouse. So do you
want to replace Justin Haley with Daniel Suarez? Then that's
the question.

Speaker 5 (40:05):
That's the name that's on the hot seat. But you
think about that kind of Haley got in that car
because they did so well in a rick Ware car
and every thought he did a good and you know,
subpar equipment and he was the nextcess thing. Ember Jeff
Gordon kind of tought it on the talking about Meybia
spoted Hen Hendrick like he goes the seven hasn't done much.
Corey la Joy was in that car, didn't do much.
The seventy seven runs pretty decent with Hulsavar. Now what's

(40:25):
up with the seven? I mean they had Rodney Childers
there and he didn't work.

Speaker 3 (40:28):
So Michael mcdoll has been pretty good in the other
one too.

Speaker 1 (40:31):
Yep, yep, he has been an underachiever. For sure.

Speaker 10 (40:36):

Ninth for sure the year of Grant Greasebach. I mean,
did anybody really see this coming? He has already won
the championship at WYR, He's won the Red, White, and
Blue States Championship Series. He is twenty two points ahead
of Brad Miller and Alex Prunty going for his first
ever championship at Slinger tonight, And boy, you know that's

(48:42):
a pretty spirited battle. There's Brad has won two features,
and then like PJ said last week also and Alex
knows how to win championships, He's won twice. It's going
to be very entertaining. Plus, yesterday, Grant Greasebach over the
points lead in the Midwest Truck Series. Where the hell

(49:04):
did all this come from? Isn't it just amazing?

Speaker 7 (49:07):
We talked about that in the podcast, so you can
hear more of his thoughts on that.

Speaker 1 (49:11):
It's a one hundred lapper tonight and it will determine
the championship this year for the super Lates. Next week
at Slinger, it'll have all the other championships, but tonight, well,

the late super late Models, we also have the late models.

so a big night at Slinger Speedway. We're glad you're
tuned in. We'll come back with some of our elimination predictions.
This ought to be good and why that's even better.
We return right after these.

Speaker 15 (49:45):
The racing season that the fair Park and Plymouth is

Brouch coverage begins with Doug Russell and the Potawanamee Sportsbook
pregame show at eleven am on your home for the
Packers ninety seven three. The game.

Speaker 1 (52:38):
Ah, lots of things to pick today. I think we
should probably start with today's race at Darlington, first round
of the playoffs. I'm gonna go out and say it's
going to be a guy who hasn't won a damn
race and put himself in the playoffs and he's going
to win today, Tyler Reddick, and uh, let's go. Let's see,
let's go to PJ. Next.

Speaker 7 (52:59):
I'm gonna i'e with Aaron Barrett. I'm taking Denny Hamlin
because I would love to see the uncomfortableness of victory Lane.

Speaker 1 (53:07):
There you go. It wasn't uncomfortable enough at Indianapolis for you. Huh?

Speaker 3 (53:11):
All right, Brian, I'm going with Josh Barry.

Speaker 4 (53:15):
He's got a really good starting spot and everybody thinks
he's not gonna make it out of the first four,
and boom he's gonna win, and say, screw.

Speaker 1 (53:22):
Wouldn't that be something? All right, Daniel?

Speaker 5 (53:24):
I agree with p JAM and Denny Hamlin. I like
to see an uncomfortable victory lane too.

Speaker 1 (53:29):
All right. Now, that's interesting because next we're gonna do
the four drivers that are not going to make it
out of the first round, and Brian, I'll tell you
right now, I'm going head to head with you here
because I'm gonna take Barry to not survive this round.
I'm gonna take Austin Dillon, Josh Barry, Austin Syndric and

(53:55):
SVG not to make it. And then I know how
many Stopopoint said SVG has but not me. All right,
I'm those of the four I'm taking. Let's uh, how
about let's mix it up here?

Speaker 4 (54:07):
Dan, you go next first four out.

Speaker 5 (54:10):
I'm gonna say the two of Austin Sindric just because
I don't think they've been doing much. The three of
Austin Dillon to the two Austin's.

Speaker 1 (54:18):
Do you agree?

Speaker 5 (54:19):
You know, I'm gonna go with the one of Ross
chest Sting because I haven't been much going on there too.
I think that one and Storry Todd, but I think
Tyler Reddick's out after the first round.

Speaker 1 (54:29):
Yeah, he has had a regressive season. I'll go with that,
all right, Brian, how about you?

Speaker 4 (54:35):
I got the one, two, and three also those three
not making it, and then I got the forty eight
of Alex Bowman not making out of the first round
and PJ.

Speaker 7 (54:45):
I have the first ones out Josh Berry, Austin Dillon,
Austin Sindrick, and Tyler Reddick.

Speaker 1 (54:54):
And would you say Austin Dillon. So twos and threes
we pretty much all agree on two and three. You know,
Cindric is a funny story there. That guy can come
out and have a race, and you think, why doesn't
this guy win a championship? He's so good? And then
he kind of crawls into his cocoon and we don't

(55:14):
see him for a couple of months.

Speaker 6 (55:15):
I think he gets into his own head.

Speaker 1 (55:18):
That might be. So we have two drivers that we
all agree on. So that's interesting, all right. Now this
is the one we go back on and say, how
the hell did I pick this guy and not that
guy the final four for the year.

Speaker 5 (55:33):
I remember Talladega puts a winner in to the final four.

Speaker 1 (55:37):
Imagine that right. There are those that think, and I'm
not sure that I'm one of them, that SVG has
enough points, bonus points, extra points, bucket points to get
him through to the second round. And there's a road
course in the second round, and there's Daytona, I mean,
excuse me, Talladega in the third round, which means that

(55:59):
guy could actually make it into the final four. I
think he's getting eliminated in the first round. But all right,
let's start with somebody new this time. Who's our final four, Brian.
I my final four. I have the twenty two of
Joey Logano.

Speaker 4 (56:15):
Yes he's only got one playoff point, but you know
how that works with him, twelve of Ryan Blaney, who
I think is also going to win the championship, twenty
four William Byron, and the eleven of Denny Hamlin.

Speaker 1 (56:27):
Interesting. I'm telling Kyle Larson on you, all right, PJ.

Speaker 3 (56:32):
He sucks on that.

Speaker 7 (56:34):
I also have Ryan Blaney in my final four, and
he is my pick for the championship.

Speaker 6 (56:38):
I know it's a surprise.

Speaker 7 (56:40):
I think Christopher Bell, Kyle Larson, and Joey Logano are
going to be in the final four because they're all closers.

Speaker 5 (56:48):
They are, all right, Daniel, all right, I'm close to that.
I have Ryan Blaney, the twelve, I have five Kyle Larson.
I have the twenty of Christopher Bell. He's got to
pull off one of these years. He's close, and then
I would love to see it happen a first time champion.
I'd love to see Denny Hamlin win the title and
sit up there and get that big soulf. You are
going to go to court like a week later?

Speaker 1 (57:12):
Are you taking eleven for the final four?

Speaker 5 (57:14):
I am eleven, twelve, twenty and five.

Speaker 7 (57:16):
I would love to see Danny do that too, but
I think NASCAR will manipulate enough to make sure it
doesn't happen.

Speaker 1 (57:21):
I think we're all kind of on the same thing.
By the way, who you taking for the championship?

Speaker 5 (57:25):
Dan, I'm gonna go with the twelve. I think great overall.

Speaker 1 (57:30):
I don't even have him in my final four.

Speaker 6 (57:33):
Y'all mock me for picking him every week?

Speaker 1 (57:35):
Yeah, I know, I'm my four. Kyle Larson, William Byron,
Christopher Bell. Does it sound like a theme here amongst
us and Joey Logonald It's not that I really like
Logono that much.

Speaker 6 (57:48):
He's a closer.

Speaker 1 (57:49):
He's you can't take away from him. You know why
he's had a crappy half a year because he didn't
have to win.

Speaker 5 (57:57):
It's nasty guy that will win Talladega and won the championship.

Speaker 1 (58:01):
I'm taking William Byron for the championship. You all three
took the twelve car and I don't even have him
in the final four Byron for the championship.

Speaker 6 (58:09):
That's you're right a lot too, Todd.

Speaker 1 (58:11):
Yeah, I know I suck. We all do when you
come down to it, But you know what, this is
why it's so fun to listen to LT and we're
all full of great ideas.

Speaker 6 (58:24):
How far do you guys all think SVG will make it.

Speaker 1 (58:28):
Out in the first round?

Speaker 2 (58:30):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (58:31):
I think the second round. I think up to the
round of eight.

Speaker 1 (58:34):
Oh yeah, like you won't win that.

Speaker 6 (58:36):
I think he'll make it to the round of eight
as well. That's where I have him.

Speaker 1 (58:39):
And lose on the road course. Interesting, Oh no, that's right,
the road courses in the second time. Thanks so much
for tuning it, Brian, who did Who's what happens to
a SVG? Do you think.

Speaker 3 (58:52):
I don't want in the rob and then out in
the round of eight?

Speaker 1 (58:54):
All right, same thing? All right? Hey, thanks so much
