Speaker 1 (00:08):
The lt N Hour, Let's Talk Nascar with your host
Todd Baaling, co hosts Brian Schmidt, PJ. Newedleman, and producer
Dangerous Dan Margetta. Call the show anytime at four one, four,
four two one seventy nine oh one and now the

(00:29):
creator and host of the Fastest Hour and Radio, Todd
the Bailing.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
We doing this show for as long as we have.
We've experienced this sort of thing more than we like
to think about. But it's a really dark day when
we have to talk about the death of one of
our heroes. And it happened this week with Greg Biffle,

(00:57):
and not just Greg Biffle, but his his wife Christina,
his son Ryder, his daughter Emma, some friends, Dennis Dutton
and his son Jack, Craig Wadsworth, seven people in total
on a ill fated flight that was going to go

(01:18):
from Statesville, North Carolina to Sarasota, Florida, and spend the
afternoon down there with Garrett Mitchell, otherwise aka known as
Hell's his name, Dan Ladis leadas Ladas Marland, my partners
all joining me here. Brian Schmidt in Utzburg, Wisconsin. Another

(01:42):
dark day.

Speaker 3 (01:43):
Yeah, yeah, this is not something you know when I
saw it happened or heard about it happening. There, there's
there's talk that, you know, you hope that he's not
on it, but then again, it doesn't matter who's on it.
When you saw that wreck, you know you weren't going
to survive it, so it was just a matter of time.
And as time went by, you realize nobody was saying
they heard from him, and you kind of feared the worst.

(02:03):
And then Garrett Mitchell was the one who confirmed it
and said that he was headed down by them.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
So you know he was honest with PJ neudleman our
our lady, and I mean that God.

Speaker 4 (02:18):
Yeah, tragic stuff there with Greg Biffel, and I don't
think everybody realizes how much charitable things he did behind
the scenes and just how involved he was with so
many things.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
Kidding and of course Dan Margetta a longtime producer, director
and all around good guy.

Speaker 5 (02:38):
Yeah, and same thing, like like Brian said, when he
heard it was going on, you kind of knew the
outcome wasn't going to be good. You're hoping, you know,
against overall wasn't but every kind of figure that's how
it was going to be in it and He's kind
of think it's like, you know, here's another one. It's like,
I can't think of any sport that's been hit with
their disasters as much as racing has. And you kind
of think why, and it's like, well, because everybody to

(02:59):
get places, everybody has a plane. It's almost necessary now.
There's so many flying out there, you know. It's not
like like your sports teams are all on one big
charter jet. Everybody goes at one place, everybody gets there
on their own. So I guess there's that much more
opportunity for things to happen. It just seems it's it
happens way too much, I guess, and you don't really
think about it until it actually does, and you kind

(03:20):
of look back and say, man, we've been through this
a lot and it's not good.

Speaker 6 (03:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (03:23):
Yeah, it seems like racing is much more susceptible to
this sort of thing. Greg Biffle would have been fifty
six on Tuesday. He was a Craftsman Truck Series champion,
Bush Series champion, had nineteen cup wins. He had been

(03:44):
nominated for the Hall of Fame a couple of times,
and wasn't you know, it was just a matter of time,
but I get a funny feeling that's going to be
moved up.

Speaker 5 (03:51):
I think he's on with currently. He was on this
this coming class was his first year on it. He
didn't make this class, but it will stay on there
for a couple of years now, right.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
Yeah, well it's going to be more than I believe.
His time in a race car is notable enough with
that many wins and battling for championships and the personality
that he was, but really he found a higher calling.
The guy owned a helicopter and an airplane. The helicopter,

(04:25):
you know, it must be really cool to be able
to buy a helicopter. I love helicopters, and I was
from the time I was a kid watching an old
TV show called Whirlly Birds that was on way before
any of my partners watched television. They were still shitting
yellow at that point. But either way, I loved helicopters,
and I thought it was so cool that Biffel not

(04:47):
only had one and flew around and said, hey, I
got a helicopter, he actually used it for not just
good a life saver he was. He went up after
Hurricane Helene, took a detour and went through western North
Carolina and absolutely devastated those mountain communities and flooded out

(05:10):
and people were blocked in and no food, no water,
and one he figured out that he could make a difference.
He used his helicopter at his own expense, and much
of it with Craig Wadsworth, by the way, the coach
driver and all around good guy who was kind of
helped him in all of his adventures. They flew all

(05:34):
kinds of stuff up into the mountains there to help
people and take people out that were in need of
medical help. And for that kind of unbelievable dedication he
did win the NMPA Myers Brothers Award in twenty twenty four.
It's a humanitarian thing and we talk about a higher

(05:57):
calling there. It is, folks. And I saw something posted
on Facebook yesterday that made all the sense in the world.
They really need to have a Greg Biffle Community Service
Award that they give out once a year for somebody
that's deserving. Don't try to come up with something. If

(06:20):
there's nobody this year that did anything notable, don't worry
about it. Give it next year. But you really need
to name an award after Biffle. It's the least he
could do after the example that he set for not
just the NASCAR community, for all of us. He was
a very unselfish guy that did good for people, and

(06:43):
he should be remembered for that as much or more
than anything he ever did in a race car. Sorry
he had with nineteen Cup wins, he had the same
amount of wins as a current Hall of famers Buddy
Baker and Davy Allison. They're in the Hall. So you
can't pretty much tell me that he won't be going
into the Hall of Fame in time.

Speaker 5 (07:04):
And I think that whole hurricane deal in North Carolina,
it kind of showed everybody outside the racing world who
Greg Biffle was, you know, I kind of everybody. We
all knew him for what he did in the racetrack
and the racing stuff, and I think when that happened,
he saw just what it was as a personal he was,
and he took it on himself and pretty much and
there's all kinds of red tape going on and stuff
wasn't getting He's like, you know, I got a helicopter.

(07:24):
I'm gonna get it there and get these people what
they need. And it kind of elevated it outside just
racing to overall the people that didn't know anything about racing.

Speaker 2 (07:32):
Something.

Speaker 5 (07:33):
He knew who Greg Biffle was because he was helping
these people out.

Speaker 2 (07:35):
Yeah, it was absolutely amazing. He had sold the helicopter
and the plane. He was leasing the plane back by
the way, there's a really good interview with Biffle on
Dale Junior's down the Dale Junior download that I looked up.
I watched half of it yesterday and the other half
this morning before we went on. An amazing guy. And

(07:56):
of all the subjects that those two talked about, they
talked about his time with RAUSH and how things in
the long term didn't turn out too good at RAUSH.
And we are going to have Robbie Reiser join us
after the break, who's going to have a few things
to say about what it was like to work with

(08:18):
Greg Biffle, and he's waiting to talk to us. There
were we don't have a lot of stories about Biffle,
but Dan and I were able to have lived through
one that was absolutely hilarious. We were in Vegas together
and we had gone over to cro Ol Buddy Jim

(08:39):
Watson wild Man, who was working was he working on
the sixteen or just for Raush in general. I don't know.
I think he had the sixteen stuff on, didn't he Dan? Yeah,
I think he was at the sixteen and he was.
We walked over to talk to him, and he was
laughing his ass off.

Speaker 5 (08:57):
They were running very good.

Speaker 2 (08:59):
No, they were running just like shit, and he went
on and so we went over to Watson and as
what are you laughing at it? He says, I was
just over there as Biffle came off the racetrack after
practice and things weren't going good, and the crew chief
and I don't know who it was, and probably Glad
I don't, walked over to Biffle and said, so, what

(09:22):
do we need to do to the car? And Biffle says,
why don't you kill yourself? What a way to remember him.
I could just hear him telling the crew chief that
it was And by the way, that was also classic

(09:44):
wild Man Watson. To to be in the middle of
that was pretty hilarious. Also, Biffle, you may remember, since
he retired, was involved in a kind of a messy
lawsuit with his first wife. She is the mother of
their daughter, Emma, who died in this crash also fourteen

(10:06):
year old daughter. In twenty eighteen, there was a lawsuit.
Do you remember this one? They were in court because
the way the story goes, Biffel was afraid or believed
that one of their maids was stealing from him. So
what did he do? But he put a bunch of

(10:26):
closed circuit cameras in the house and it just happened
to be in the bathroom and caught the ex wife
who gives a c and apparently was able to see
old Nicole as she got out of the shower or
something like that. But what he did do was catcher

(10:46):
screwing a tennis instructor. But she sued him and won
one dollar. Well that was what the punitive damage was.
There was a fine involved of a quarter million bucks.
He had a pay too, but if you remember, that
was in twenty eighteen. Already, so long back.

Speaker 7 (11:04):
We're glad you're tuned in.

Speaker 2 (11:05):
We're gonna have a real nice conversation with Robbie Riser
about his friend and co worker, it's Greg Biffle.

Speaker 8 (11:12):

An next check us out on Facebook. Welcome back to
this special edition of LTN. It's not only the one
where we're going to take our caps off to Greg
Biffle and his fabulous career, but it's the final program
of the twenty twenty five season. We're going to take

(13:16):
only one week off this year because of the way
the holidays fall, and we will be back two weeks
from today to start our forty second season of doing
this program. Our longtime friend Robbie Riser joins us from
North Carolina, the former three times Slinger speedway track champion

(13:37):
and the longtime general manager racing director over at rush
Fenway Racing. Robbie, thanks for taking a few minutes to
talk with us today.

Speaker 6 (13:50):
No problem, Thanks Dad.

Speaker 2 (13:52):
You spent quite a bit of time working under the
same roof as Greg Biff, but not directly for you
weren't his crew chief, but you certainly knew him as
good as anybody in the place.

Speaker 6 (14:08):
Yeah, I mean we worked together. Actually when I call
him the Bis, when the Bis came he he came
to ride trucks in two thousand, which was driven by
basically driven by Benny Parsons seeing them out in Arizona
Racing and talked Jack into putting them in the truck.
So he came to work for us about the same

(14:28):
time that Matt and myself went to work for Jack.
I mean we ran to five races in ninety nine,
but then two thousand we started to run full season.
So obviously we're part of the organization and we were
together probably, I don't know, fifteen years, I would think.
I think his last year was twenty fifteen when the

(14:48):
three program got shut down. So we run around a
lot together and did a lot of things together, that's
for sure.

Speaker 2 (14:56):
He appeared to me to be a kind of a
fiery son.

Speaker 14 (14:59):
Of a.

Speaker 6 (15:01):
Oh yeah, you could get mad once in a while.
I mean, uh, you know some of the driver driver
uh uh debris would get pretty interesting on. Greg was
in there because he was he didn't hold back. He
was very straightforward and when he wanted something done, he
he sure made made his point. He was always he
was always very uh, very professional and always uh but

(15:21):
he was always very honest to what he wanted to do.
But uh Greg, Greg always had a lot of things
going on, So he was pretty interesting fellas.

Speaker 2 (15:31):
He might have been. You know, he was only five nine,
but that didn't stop him from uh from when he
was pissed off, he was gonna swing until you know,
it cost him a lot of money. And there was
a great story but that he told about Rauch find
him the money. He didn't pay the money when he
when he got into a fistfight one time. A pretty

(15:53):
amazing young uh uh driver at that time. And he
kind of kind of matured over the years and you
got to see the whole process from your from your angle.

Speaker 6 (16:04):
Yeah, I mean Greg did. Greg did a lot of things.
When he first came race for us, Like you say,
he was very young, young and and he wanted every
thing down a different way and in his way, and
that type of thing. So he had to work through
some of those things.

Speaker 12 (16:19):
Uh.

Speaker 6 (16:19):
We were no different, you know. I guess so when
you look at the ages ages, we were probably all
younger guys and we were a lot more fiery back then.
But I think, uh, you know, he he was very
motivated making things happen, and not only in racing, but
in all the other things that he was involved in.
I mean, he he did some machine work, He had

(16:39):
a little machine shop that he did on the side.
He he was in.

Speaker 9 (16:42):
The u TV.

Speaker 6 (16:43):
He he loved to go fishing with his dad in Mexico.
I mean he he hung out of the dunes out
out west. I mean he did a lot of crazy things. Uh,
you know that he enjoyed.

Speaker 5 (16:56):
I think that's what a lot of people don't realize
about before a lot of people just don't know the
racetrack stuff and on track performers things, and he didn't
realize what he was like away from the race track.
And it seems like he always wanted to do something,
always got to keep busy, and he really saw that
after he got a racing he didn't just you know,
run off in the sunset. We did hear from him.
He actually you know, got his helicopter and helped those
people in North Carolina. But you saw firsthand down there,

(17:17):
being there in North Carolina. I think a lot of
people don't realize this is how bad it was because
we didn't get the coverage or you guys got actually
being there that he made a real big difference there.

Speaker 6 (17:26):
He made a huge difference. I mean he he actually
brought he brought it to the to the surface. You know.
He when he went in there, they were trying to
you know, everybody was trying to stop him from going
in there. Wouldn't allow the helicopters in there. And he didn't.
He didn't lessen. He just went past and went through
there and and started bringing people in and out of there.
And he brought supplies and things back and forth. And

(17:48):
he used you know, he used this his h his name,
I would say, to bring a lot of sponsorship to
to that, you know, from chainsaws to supplies that the
people needed. And he was bringing them back and forth.
They actually had a they had a command for set
up in states Ville at the airport where they were
storing all this and then they were bringing it back

(18:09):
and forth to the people that needed in west western
North Carolina. And I think I think Greg Biffle was
probably eighty percent of the reason why everybody knew about
it because of what he was all doing and doing
it on his own too. Let me they make that
real clear. He did all that on his own to
make that all happen, and it was pretty impressive.

Speaker 2 (18:29):
Going out and finding sponsors for that sort of thing.
I suppose that's not as hard as you would think
it would be because you know the fact that Greg
Biffle was the one that was going to take your
chainsaws that you donated up into where it could make
a different saving lives. It seems like that's not just
like a normal contribution that people wanted to jump on

(18:52):
board something like that. It seems like to me. But
I think another example to think about, he really took
his time to do that, you know what I mean, There's.

Speaker 6 (19:02):
A lot of a lot of people that have that
type of celebrity background that don't do that. He did that.
You know, he felt that it was that important to
help all those people that he took the time and
effort to go do that. That's pretty amazing for what
he all was able to accomplish.

Speaker 2 (19:18):
I can't imagine what the racing community is like down
there at this time, right before Christmas, losing a guy
as prolific as Greg Biffle who was part still he
didn't race perhaps anymore. And by the way he jumped
back into Kyle Busch's truck just a couple of dan

(19:39):
One was that that wasn't very long ago. Was it
about four years ago?

Speaker 5 (19:43):
That's maybe five or six years ago, But he got
to win. He jumped in the truck and went on
that right off the bat.

Speaker 2 (19:49):
Yeah, in nineteen nineteen. Oh boy, that was longer than
I thought it was. But you know, it seems to
me that that whole community that you are a part
of down there North Carolina is uh just absolutely bitch
slapped over this whole thing.

Speaker 6 (20:07):
Yeah, devastation is the word. I mean, it's not only
not only Greg, but uh you got you got seven
people that are involved in this thing, and that uh
you know, a whole family gone. I mean it's uh,
it's it's uh tragic at at at its most and uh,
you know, I think it's hit home with a lot
of people because we do all do a lot of
traveling and do a lot of things together, and uh,

(20:29):
to lose everybody in one one clip there. I think
a lot of the racing families go back and forth
on on planes and stuff where you don't really think
about that until something like this happens.

Speaker 2 (20:40):
That's pretty crazy stuff. As we're uh, we're headed off
to a break here, Robbie. Uh, you just told us
as we were going on here right before the show,
that you're going to be a grandfather for the second time.
Did I hear that right?

Speaker 6 (20:55):
Yes, you heard that right? Old Grandpadny call.

Speaker 2 (20:58):
Me and I can leave that old part off. Things
could be worse than to be called grandpa. I don't
mind it myself. Yeah.

Speaker 6 (21:09):
It's been a lot of good and bad in this world,
and that's one of the good things is to be grandparents.
And I'm really looking forward to the second time around.

Speaker 2 (21:16):
Oh that's fantastic, Hey, Rob, best your wife and family
and from all of us at LT and thanks for
doing this. And of course as you as you know,
we're thinking about everybody that knew Greg Biffle and considered
him a friend, and we're thinking about you during this

(21:37):
holiday season.

Speaker 6 (21:39):
I really appreciate it and then really keep their family
in their prayers because they really needed Merry Christmas. Everybody,
have a good Holidays.

Speaker 2 (21:48):
Thanks you been, Robbie Riiser. We're gonna take a break
and be back after these.

Welcome back to the program. You know, as Dan said,
it seems like the motorsports community is a little more
susceptible to this, just for the fact that so many
of them fly and there's so many hours that are logged.

(24:20):
You know, air travel is still a very safe mode
of transportation. The problem with it is if you're driving
along the road and your car's engine decides to take
a shit, well you just pull over in an airplane
and we don't know exactly what happened yet, but you

(24:42):
fall out of the sky. They tried their best to
come around and land, but the plane had been just
fueled up for that flight to Sarasota and you can't
dump the fuel that quickly. They did their best to land.
We still don't know who is flying the plane. There
were other pilots on board this, Dennis Dutton was a pilot.

Speaker 6 (25:04):
Well.

Speaker 4 (25:04):
They also struck one of those stanchions that was about
eighteen hundred feet short of the runway, so they hit
some trees as well, and some other light structures.

Speaker 2 (25:14):
They had a golf course, yeah, there was.

Speaker 4 (25:17):
A lot of things that got hit.

Speaker 3 (25:19):
They were close to making it. I mean they were close.
Some of the eyewitnesses says the wheels were down. I
mean they were You're probably within a thousand feet of
maybe pulling that off.

Speaker 5 (25:30):
You know, it sounds like they had it lined up
to come.

Speaker 7 (25:32):
Mean, you got it there.

Speaker 5 (25:32):
Yeah, you can't just land the plane. You gotta get
it lined up and have all your angles right and
everything else to make this work because you're coming out
of the out of the sky. And they it was
in line, they said in the last briefing to make
the landing and just said they were too low and they.

Speaker 2 (25:46):
Went through a chain link fence before or as it
was happening. Yeah, yeah, no kidding, And I mean air travel.

Speaker 3 (25:54):
You know, people are saying, you know, it was a
nineteen eighty one plane, but that's not out of the rent,
you know, out of the norm.

Speaker 4 (26:00):
You know, they're not bad planes. That's not like cars.

Speaker 3 (26:03):
No cars, you know, nineteen eighty one cars. You don't
see many of them out there. But you know the
maintenance program that planes have, the fine tooth comb they
go through with them all the time. I mean, just
think about you know, if you have like a flight
aware app or anything. You look at how many planes
are in the sky. I mean, it's incredible how much
stuff is out there, and how how rare this is
to happen.

Speaker 4 (26:21):
That is exactly right, Brian. I think people only hear
about the bad stuff, But for every airplane accident, there's
hundreds of thousands of flights that do not have incidences.

Speaker 3 (26:33):
So, I mean, just like the FEDEXS plane you know
a couple of months ago in Louisville where the engine
fell off. You know how many FedEx planes take off
every I mean, Dan, when we're in we're in India,
that's like their hub. It's like what every like ten minutes,
there's one taken off for hours, you know. So I
mean it's extremely rare for this to happen. And it's
just you know, when God says it's your turn, it's
your turn.

Speaker 9 (26:53):
I guess.

Speaker 2 (26:54):
There.

Speaker 5 (26:55):
But this turns to the why. Now, that's what their
job is to go. They put a report out, it'll
probably out, they're probably be a preliminary report in a
couple of weeks. Five months later they have the final report.
You can always see those in line and'll they'll really
go through it. To find out why, because that's what
aviation does. Now, we got to figure out why. And
if we know the why, how can we prevent it
from happening again? And you kind of learn as you
go type thing.

Speaker 4 (27:16):
Yeah, it'll probably be about thirty days they said for.

Speaker 2 (27:19):
The preliminary report. They said a year to a year
and a half before the whole report is out. They're
going to go back and find out who the maintenance
company was sent them. Like I mentioned, Greg had sold
this plane and it was owned by someone else who
was obviously in charge of maintenance on the thing. So

(27:42):
we'll we'll find out more about it.

Speaker 5 (27:44):
When antsp it's crazy that that was assessma Citation five
point fifty is a pretty safe plane. They don't have
a whole lot of accidents with that plane. I think
the last not if this is for you know, one
hundred percent years, I really looking at it. But one
of the ones I've searched for past crashes, one happened
here in Milwaukee and it was like in two thousand
and seven, so it's been a while, same kind of

(28:04):
thing when the plane took off and ended up crashing
in Lake Michigan, and it was a medical team going
from Milwaukee all across the lake to Michigan, and so
you can look at something like that and is it similar,
you know, is it that case they bought the controls.
I just thought of a loud that it was here
in Milwaukee. Was one of the last crashes that playing.

Speaker 2 (28:23):
Not only was he had he been married to Nicole Lunders.
They were divorced in March of twenty fifteen, but he
got remarried to Christina Grosso. She's a real estate agent
from down there in that area, a pretty highly decorated
real estate agent, and you know, they'd make some pretty

(28:45):
serious coin and they had this little boy rider together.
But of course at this time, Nicole Lunders is mourning
the loss of her or teenage daughter, you know, and
we have to think of her time too.

Speaker 5 (29:00):
You know, Greg did some YouTube stuff too. I mean
he kind of embraced that. That's how his friends with
you know, Garrett Mitchell or Cleatas McFarlane and one of
our listeners, Dereck Raimes, a listener every week, kind of
put something off on his Facebook page, a link to
they were going to get Christmas trees just about you know,
ten days ago. And you watch that now and you're like, wow,
it's something that they actually were.

Speaker 4 (29:20):
You know, well they were supposed to be heading to
the Bahamas together, right, That's where the plane was head
and to go down and pick him up, spend some
time there and then head to the Bahamas together.

Speaker 5 (29:31):
To celebrate his birthday which was coming up. What proved
they would have been?

Speaker 4 (29:35):
And did you see too that Cleatis when he was
having his Christmas party with his fan you know, his crew,
I mean they still had that. They did the gift
exchange and he drew number sixteen as the numbers. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (29:48):
Crazy. They just had a Crown Vic race down at
the old Kleatus's race track where PJ and I just
were a couple of weeks ago at the Freedom Factory
and hosts of Ar won it and Biffle was second.
Then Biffle and Hosovar posted a picture of them hugging

(30:08):
after they had got out of the cars. It might
be a fun little race to have, but there's something
that's going to stick with Carson Josovar's whole life. I'll
guarantee you we're due for a break. We'll be back
in just a.

Speaker 9 (30:20):
Couple of minutes.

Speaker 2 (30:23):
Miller sales and service of Random Lake is where to
go for a trailer, no matter what you're hauling. Tom
and Jerry Miller have been selling trailers from B and
B Trophy and Bravo for over fifty years. Quality and
integrity is what put them on the map. On the
corner of fifty seven in k since nineteen thirty nine,
home of the number eighty nine dirt and asphalt cars
of Brad Miller. That's Miller's sales and service. It's where

(30:46):
to go for a trailer, just twenty minutes north of Milwaukee.
Call him nine two zero nine nine four four three
five eight. Hey, Matthew, give me a hand with this tree.

Speaker 11 (30:55):
Yeah, let's get a real tree this year.

Speaker 2 (30:57):
Hey, leave that fake tree in the box under the
basement and steps this year. Get a real tree from
PMF Landscape on River Road in West Bend. Any kind
of real tree imaginable up to eighteen feet. A huge
assortment of Christmas decorations, including wreaths in three sizes, cemetery wreaths,
festive global hanging ornaments, bows, garland, roping, and more. Stop

(31:18):
in seven days a week during the holiday season, have
refreshments and check everything out. How about a PMF gift
certificate the perfect gift. PMF Landscape Supply fifty four to
seventy South River Road in West Bend. Column two six,
two three three eight eighty eight hundred.

Speaker 12 (31:33):
Yeah, our tree from PMF Landscape looks great.

Speaker 13 (31:38):

(32:13):
Welcome back. The final episode of LTN this year. Will
take one week off for the holidays next week, and
we'll be back on January fourth of twenty twenty six.
We're gonna go flying. A couple of things happened this week.
First of all, you think they'd learned these drivers, you know,
from when Chase Elliott not long ago was what was

(32:35):
he snowboarding or something when he broke his leg? Right well,
now Keslowski was skiing and he broke his leg. He
had surgery last Thursday. They are he is planning on.
His goal is to be back in the car for
the Daytona five hundred, which means that short track race

(32:58):
coming up where they've beaten band on each other at
at Bowman Gray. It doesn't sound like he's going to
drive the six car for.

Speaker 5 (33:06):
That, so class I're gonna have to find someone to
put in it. I wonder who they'll they'll you know,
pick for that.

Speaker 2 (33:12):
Who's on the Ford line right now? Do we have
any drivers that are, you know, knocking on the door.

Speaker 3 (33:21):
Ford really doesn't have a presence in the Infinity Series,
so you know, all they had was that hot Custer
Factory team. Yeah, with col Custer, that's about it.

Speaker 2 (33:30):
M Yeah, that's right.

Speaker 5 (33:32):
Well, trucks and Door Sports kind of their team than trucks.

Speaker 4 (33:35):
Right Well, Brad Brad Keselowski liked Tie. I mean when
Brad had his his team, he was looking to he
was looking at Tie.

Speaker 9 (33:44):
Yeah, let him runner at a Bowen Gray. That would
be exciting, That would be exciting.

Speaker 2 (33:49):
That really would and uh, you know, boy, that's uh,
that's something we'll have to keep a close eye on
because I'm sure even if his if he could crawl
in through the window with the broken leg to be
beaten and banging on that short track, I'm not sure that.

Speaker 5 (34:03):
Would be David Reagan's always out there.

Speaker 2 (34:06):
David Reagan. Sure, yeah, there's there's names, but I want
somebody on the way up not.

Speaker 9 (34:11):
Or or maybe they'll go to one of the Bowman
Gray regulars.

Speaker 3 (34:14):
You know, that would be a who the modified standouts
from there, that Brown Brown and then the didn't didn't
that Brown Myers? Yep, Myers and Brown didn't I think
what they each drove cars last year, but they're like
wear cars and one of the other garbage cars out there.

Speaker 2 (34:31):
Boy, I hate to say it, but Biffle would have
been a good candidate for there, wouldn't he. I mean,
with the with the raush background he had either way.

Speaker 5 (34:42):
But Brad had surgery, so he's got metal at him
right now. He's kind of bionic.

Speaker 2 (34:46):
Now, yeah, that's what he's I mean, what he said.

Speaker 5 (34:50):
They're they're talking the five hundred is kind of the goal.
I don't know if it's one hundred percent sure he's
gonna be back for the five hundred.

Speaker 2 (34:55):
But that's the goal, right, Yes, that's exactly right. Speak
end of the Daytona five hundred, Jimmy Johnson announced he's
going to be racing in the five hundred. I think
we kind of almost, you know, expect to hear that
because he just can't leave it alone. We know he's
got two races on the docket for next year, the

(35:15):
other one being right in his hometown and he was
from the San Diego area, and he's going to be
in that that Navy bas road Course race on Father's
Day too, so there's two of them.

Speaker 5 (35:28):
Here's open cars coming up for Daytona. I mean that's
Johnson obviously be an open car, but I don't think
he's taken the route like Helio took last year. And
I don't think he's got the you know, there's that
one other car that's kind of guaranteed a spot with
nothing no more. I don't think he's doing that. He's
just an open car right now, and there's a probably

(35:49):
a few more. You're probably gonna have probably about five,
five or six open cars for the five hundred.

Speaker 2 (35:55):
He hasn't really done much since he's raced that Daytona.
I don't know if he's it's just bad luck, or
if his cars aren't as good as they could be,
or he's not used to driving this configuration because it's
not really a plate that's just choked more than a.

Speaker 5 (36:11):
Or he's older and wiser now and just doesn't want
to get in the miss sometimes. And it is kind
of a crazy deal where anybody can win it once
you get in, but you're gonna have to take some chances.
And I think some of those guys that are just
smarter to say, you know, nope, now.

Speaker 2 (36:24):
Why don't you go kill yourselves? I'm gonna just yeah.
It's not like Jimmy Johnson though. Really, if he's going
to be in the race, he's gonna think he's going
to be a factor. It seems like to me that's
just a guess who knows. Denny Hamlin is still got
quite the chip on his shoulder. He's not Larry McReynolds.

(36:47):
Because McReynolds took the company line for NASCAR throughout the
serious radio show that he does. You have to understand
it's a NASCAR show. He he kind of had to
do that. All those guys have to They have to
toe the line. You know, Dave Money aren't Day Money.

(37:08):
He's mister Nascar too. I don't know if he really
believes some of the things that he that he touts,
but you know they have to do it. That's they're
the ones that they're talking about. You know they're own
Are they owned by Nascar? I don't even know that.

Speaker 3 (37:24):
That station I believe is basically yeah, NASCAR pays you know.
I have to put them on serious ExM. So their
checks are signed by the France family, so you know,
you don't crap on those who sign your checks exactly.

Speaker 2 (37:39):
And so Hamlin needs to understand that although it's good theater,
you know, wow, now that it's over, listen to what
Larry mac all said, Well, yeah, he's just.

Speaker 4 (37:50):
Well. And if Danny listened to the program outside of
his own issues, he would hear it's the same way
with every issue. Sure, Larry mack has always taken the
NASCAR our side.

Speaker 2 (38:00):
On things, and all those guys take the NASCAR and
they talk about how great NASCAR is constantly when him
on a puke your guts out sometimes, but it is
what it.

Speaker 5 (38:10):
Is, as they say, we don't know how that bus
it's going to play in the future yet. I mean,
they had a big win there and it's great for now.
It's just hopefully ten years from now it's still going
strong and doesn't turn into what happened in any car.
It's it's one of those deals, were you one hand
on you one don't spike the football right now, it's
just go right.

Speaker 2 (38:28):
Just move along. Nothing to see here.

Speaker 4 (38:31):
Take your ex act like you've won before.

Speaker 2 (38:33):
There you go like you've been there all right. I
don't know how many of you remember the name Craig
Smokestead around this area. He was a prolific ASA crew chief.
He was Scott Hansen's crewchief for a couple of years.
But he has worked at the U has Well. When

(38:53):
it was called has Stewart, he was there. Now it's
just the Hass Factory team. He was named this week
he's going to be the car Chie for Sam Mayer.
So there's a couple of guys. I think, if I
remember right, Smokestead might be a Minnesota native. He is, yeah,
he is, okay, But you know, he worked so much

(39:15):
around these parts that you forget sometimes where these guys
are from But yeah, so he there's a local guy
with a local tie that's also going to be with
Sam Mayor.

Speaker 9 (39:25):
So that's isn't there a Smokestad that used to drive
a car.

Speaker 4 (39:28):
And Ted Ted Smokestead and Lisa Smokestead did his tires.

Speaker 2 (39:33):
And she, if I remember right, I think she's still
the tires specialist for one of the Hendrick cars.

Speaker 4 (39:39):
She's a smart cookie.

Speaker 2 (39:40):
Oh yeah, he's been doing it for many, many years too.
And Scott had quite the team there when he had
Craig and Lisa Smokestead both working as part of that.
Part of that team. We remember the name Rick Allen,
the famous play by play NASCAR guy who kind of

(40:02):
unceremoniously got shuffled off the Buffalo and he's he wasn't
around anymore. Well, he's got a new gig.

Speaker 14 (40:12):
He's been moved from racing to a bowling wow. He's
to be the new PBA bowling announcer for c W
and their extensive bowling.

Speaker 4 (40:26):
You know, his his delivery will kind of work with that,
I think.

Speaker 5 (40:31):
And we got to see some of that bowling stuff
when when we're waiting for races to start this year.
I don't know if he saw a couple of times
they're the bowling beyond it before and like it was
like team bowling or something like the lumberjacks or one
of them against somebody else, and it was.

Speaker 2 (40:45):
There. You go, let's take a break. We've got not
too many results to give you, but we can we
can still give you a couple after we come back.

Speaker 8 (40:54):
As a growing manufacturing company, we needed security solutions. We
chose Bonify because of the services they offer, pricing and
trusted replication.

Speaker 7 (41:03):
What if their outstanding service and support that convinced us.

Speaker 9 (41:05):
We made the right choice of Bonafide.

Speaker 10 (41:08):
When businesses need security, if they contact Bonafide security solutions
from locks of the lawns to safe and surveillance.

Speaker 7 (41:14):
We do it all. We are Bonafiding. We protect what
you value.

Speaker 10 (41:17):
For your pre security survey, call us today or visit
bonafhytsafe dot com.

Speaker 7 (41:24):
Hey, Matthew, give me a hand with this tree.

Speaker 11 (41:26):
Yeah, let's get a real tree this year.

Speaker 2 (41:28):
Hey, leave that fake tree in the box under the
basement steps this year. Get a real tree from PMF
Landscape on River Road and West End. Any kind of
real tree imaginable up to eighteen feet, A huge assortment
of Christmas decorations, including wreaths and three sizes, cemetery wreaths,
festive global hanging ornaments, bows, garland roping and more. Stop

(41:49):
in seven days a week during the holiday season, have
refreshments and check everything out. How about a PMF Gift
Certificate the Perfect Gift PMF Landscape Supply fifty four to
seven South River Road in West Bend, Column two six
eighty eight.

Speaker 12 (42:04):
Hundred Yeah R trade from PMF Landscape looks straight.

Speaker 1 (42:13):
And now the LTN Hour presents Turn on the Dirt
with Brian Schmidt.

Speaker 3 (42:21):
Only one dirt race last night across the country and
it was in Duquoine, Illinois. And you're saying it's probably
pretty cold down there. Well, no, they were inside. They
were inside at the Southern Illinois Center kind of a
kind of a preview to the Chili Bowl coming up.
It's the Power Eye Midgets at the Southern Illinois Center.
The Junior Knepper fifty five and Thomas Messerol grabbed the
wind in that one last night.

Speaker 9 (42:43):
So that's it for the results. Couple schedule notes.

Speaker 3 (42:45):
Now that all the schedules have been released for twenty
twenty six, looking at some of the major series across
the world. Weilt Lost Sprint Cars. They make several appearances
in Wisconsin next year. Saturday June sixth at Plymouth, Sunday
June seventh, they'll be at sun Prairie, June twenty sixth
and twin only seventh up at Cedar Lake for a
big two day show, and July tenth and eleventh at
Wilmont for them. The World of out La Late Models,

(43:06):
they're around here quite a bit within you know, four
or five hour drive April tenth and eleventh, Farmer City
for the ALIINI one hundred April thirtieth, May first and
second on the west side of the state, Mississippi Thunder
Speedway for the big three day show over there. June
nineteenth and twentieth, will be right over right up the
road here one forty one Speedway for the first time
ever for a pretty big event for one.

Speaker 9 (43:25):
One for that one.

Speaker 3 (43:27):
July twenty fourth, twenty fifth is the traditional period Er
Classic down to Fairbury, American Legion Speedway July thirtieth, thirty first.
In August first the Big USA Nationals. So those are
the big races for the world of out Law Late Models.
You know, another big National Dirt Touring series coming around
here is September sixth SU on Prairie for the USAC
Midgets for their traditional Fireman's Nationals.

Speaker 9 (43:47):
So that's a look at some of the big races there.

Speaker 5 (43:50):
IRA added to Ray said channel that'd be kind of
cool see back there.

Speaker 3 (43:53):
Yeah, IRA schedule is still they got most of their
schedule out and they're still working and adding dates as
you go along.

Speaker 9 (43:59):
I believe they're going to be at the sal.

Speaker 3 (44:00):
They got their traditional dates at Plymouth. So yeah, for
the regional series, you got the IRA. Yeah, chanad that
ought to be interesting for them on a half mile.
And finally some sad news on the dirt side. GiB
Weiser name synonymous with the IRA and modified wing modified
racing back the day he passed away this week, I
believe he was eighty three.

Speaker 2 (44:19):
Eighty three the racing school teacher Hall of Famer. Yes,
what a personality this guy was. I mean, he was
really so wonderful for our sport and such a great
representative of the Hall of Fame. And he actually was
an announcer for a while. So another fellow announcer passes away.

(44:41):
I can't really tell you where he did, but I
think it probably was following that circuit around a little
bit after he retired from driving. I think number fifty five, right.

Speaker 3 (44:52):
Yep, yes, yep. Saw him raise plenty as a kid.
So that's everything for dirt track racing. They get back
in action after the new year. The first big race
in the new year will be January tenth, when the
wild West Shootout moves to not far from utat Casa Grande, Arizona.
Twenty five thousand dollars to win on January tenth. So
that's when the late Models I get back at it

(45:13):
and the wing sprint cars start during speed weeks down
in Vlusha.

Speaker 9 (45:17):
That is everything.

Speaker 2 (45:17):
This week I'll be going.

Speaker 4 (45:21):
Hello, Pege, I'm my mic on, My mic is on
all right. Last Sunday, the car's tour was out at
Auburndale Speedway in winter Haven, Florida. Super Late Model Winter
was Nick Nairy. Kendrick Cryer was down there. He qualified
second and he finished second. Lowell Bennett was there finishing

(45:41):
ninth and Brazen Bennett had qualified eighth but broke a
spool in the rear end and was not able to
run the feature. So sad trombone for him, but still
nice to see some of our Midwestern boys doing well
down south.

Speaker 2 (45:55):
I want to mention on Gibbie Wiser. There will be
a service for him on January tenth at the Pagan
Cop Funeral Home in Oconomo Walk. So for those of
you that are thinking about going, that's when it is.
January the tenth.

Speaker 4 (46:14):
And as long as we were talking about upcoming races
for the asphalt side, the Red Eye twenty twenty six
Red Eye will kick off kind of the World Series
of Asphalt stock car racing that's actually going to be
on January third, featuring pro and super Late models Jane,
but it's kind of a prelude if you will for
the World Series.

Speaker 2 (46:35):
You know what that means. That means on our first
show back in two weeks you will have results for us. Right,
that's pretty amazing.

Speaker 4 (46:45):
There is no off season. If you have not figured
that out yet.

Speaker 2 (46:48):
Yeah, no kidding, It's pretty nice really, And for you know,
if you live down where it's warm, such as here
in Arizona or in Florida, it may not be a
weekly but there are there's racing all winter long, and
so therefore drivers will relocate for the winter, some of
them you know, and so they can race all year long,

(47:11):
which is pretty cool.

Speaker 3 (47:13):
Yeah, And they also announced this week that that UARA
series is going to pay a twenty thousand dollars to
win race Saturday, February twenty eighth at that Auburndale Speedway.
So that Auburndale track is kind of kind of getting
some traction there that you really never heard much about it,
and now they're trying to show that they're legitimate down
there and they're gonna pay a twenty thousand dollars win race.

Speaker 4 (47:33):
And the UAIRA is coming to Golden Sands Speedway as
well too, for the first time next year. I don't
know if we actually talked about that or not.

Speaker 9 (47:41):
That was rumored, but we didn't. Yeah, so it's what
what is that.

Speaker 4 (47:44):
It is scheduled for August first, twenty twenty six.

Speaker 2 (47:47):
Funny you know you mentioned Auburndale. I never really had
heard of the place before until at the Freedom Factory.
I was talking to Lowell Bennett who told me that
the too, Benett, We're both going to be racing there.
And where in the hell is that? Well, winter Haven
a little south of Orlando, but it's there and Yeah.

(48:08):
You know, you start doing twenty thousand to win shows
and your name is going to get You're going to
be on the map pretty quickly, I think. And so
that's and I would think since the the Bennetts have
a place down here in Florida, I believe they're probably
going to be racing in that one again too. And

(48:30):
after that nice finish by Kendrick Cryer, Kendrick Cryer, it
seems to me they'll probably be back for that one too.
So that's just the start of it. Now we're going
to have to see there'll be guys sing geez you know.
Is that worth the ride? Yeah, it probably is. It
seems like.

Speaker 5 (48:48):
I see they added the races to the World Series
of Askepalt that new summerli they had it to come
super late in pro late races on some of the
nights that they weren't before, So pretty full schedule there too.

Speaker 4 (48:58):
Absolutely looking forward to that. I don't know all who's
going down there from the Midwest. I've heard a lot
of different names being bandied around, but nobody that I've
heard for sures, you know, except for fredericson Ty Frederckson
I believe is going to be down there.

Speaker 3 (49:15):
Last I heard Summer said they were going to go.
So we'll see they changed their mind or not.

Speaker 2 (49:21):
Well, there's usually, you know, sponsor things to work on
before you do that. We mentioned how prevalent it is
air travel for racers and how you know, even though
it's a safe way to travel, sometimes these things happen.
It wasn't that long ago if you'll remember that Dale

(49:43):
Junior and his entire family were involved in a thing.
Was that at Statesville two?

Speaker 5 (49:49):
Bristol?

Speaker 2 (49:50):
Oh it was Bristol? Okay, Well, yeah, they were able
to get out of the plane. But I believe there
was a fire there. Who wasn't there? I mean it
could have been really.

Speaker 5 (50:03):
Yeah, it wasn't like a minor. Just think it was
a pretty serious deal. But everything worked out there. Yeah,
like you said, it's the travel. It's weird how racing
has evolved in that. And everybody used to drive everywhere,
and then I think corporate sponsors came involved and he
had to do all these appearances. It was impossible to
drive everywhere and make all his appearances, and now it's
pretty much just you have to fly everybody where the

(50:24):
schedule is. And if you go to a race, and
after the race is over, if you happen to be
near the local airport. You talk about the race on
a race track, there's a race to get to the
airport too. Every's trying to get out of there as well.

Speaker 2 (50:34):
Yeah, pretty amazing. I was fortunate enough to have been
invited on Jerry Gunderman's plane back in the day. He
calls me and says, hey, you want to go to
the Rockingham race tomorrow with me? That was a kind
of a short thought process. Hell yeah. So we flew

(50:55):
from a water town whereas airplane was kept, and we
ended on the drag strip across the street from Rockingham Speedway.
And when we left, the plane lined up right at
the Christmas tree and took off as we were barelassing
down that on that racetrack, And we took off and

(51:18):
looked down at all at bumper to bumper traffic. It
was I can see why guys fly everywhere. It was
a wonderful thing. And I'll evolved. Ready for a break.

Speaker 2 (53:07):
As you may have heard me mention, we're going to
take a one week break for the holidays next week
and we'll be back in two weeks on the fourth
of January. You know, we've very much consider ourselves to
be very fortunate that we have not only such a
great listening audience that has followed us to the Internet,

(53:31):
and our numbers on the Internet have never been better,
as you might imagine, but we have sponsors that are
very much responsible for keeping us doing this and without
their help we definitely wouldn't be here, and that certainly
would include our friend Mike Egan and the folks that
Bonafide Security Solutions for everything they've done for us, Casey

(53:54):
Wagner and Wagner Automotive Research Man. Is there a better
racing group to be around right there. How about Jasper
Drangler who called us while we were doing the program
and offered to sponsor us earlier this year, and Chimney
Mechanics has been doing been with us ever since. And

(54:17):
we've had people that have let us know that they've
used Chimney Mechanics and how happy they were. I mean,
it's really great, and our thanks to Jasper for sponsoring us.
Of course, Jerry and Elaine Miller and Miller's sales and
service of Randomly Wisconsin Spectacular people and they've been with
us forever. Froggy and a bunch of PMF landscapes a play.

(54:42):
His real name is Paul forgot foregatch, but don't call him,
just call him Froggy and and he'll be happy to
answer the phone. And then our racetracks that we just
love and are basically partners with, including Slinger Speedway and
the new Track Motor. Travis dassel I would say that

(55:03):
was a pretty successful first season over there, and things
are are looking up all the time. There's improvements coming
at that racetrack constantly. And uh, it couldn't have been
sold to a better guy and a better group to
to keep it keep it going. Uh, the Sheboygan County
Fairgrounds and the Plymouth Dirt Track. Bill Wynock, thanks a
lot for for sticking with us. Uh, Jerry, I'll be

(55:25):
and our friends at Dell's Raceway Park love you guys.
Uh John Evertt and uh the gang at Road America. Boy,
they they they're probably racing this weekend, aren't they something?
What are they d Did they ever run snowmobiles there?

Speaker 3 (55:40):
No, but they do a lot of winter driving schools there,
so that's their big thing. In winter they cover the
paddock area with snow and people can learn how to
drive in the winter.

Speaker 9 (55:48):
I would recommend it to a lot of people around
here there. Take that class.

Speaker 2 (55:51):
You need to learn, even even the plow truck travers.

Speaker 6 (55:54):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (55:55):
John Yingling, the chairman of the board of the Milwaukee
Mile and his pr type at the Wisconsin State Fair,
Tess Kirkson, thanks so much for sponsoring us. And of
course Greig mccarns has been a very very loyal sponsor
over the years. And he's not with the ASA Midwest

(56:15):
Tour anymore like he was, but he certainly is. He
made a post not long ago that Madison International Speedway
is now free and clear he owns it himself, and
I think that's in good hands for the future, no doubt.
We have a couple of contributors that help us out
all the time, and I'd like to thank Aaron Baird

(56:38):
of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Paul Reicherd of Lacrosse, Wisconsin. They
both help us on a weekly basis and we do
appreciate everything they do for us. And I guess I
couldn't go too much further without saying these listeners are amazing.
You're listening on Facebook, you're listening on YouTube, and Matt

(57:02):
there's a lot of different platforms that they can get nowadays.
I don't know how many different platforms myself, but this
can be downloaded of course on iHeart iTunes and all
major vessels. How's that? How many other ones are there?
We have a bunch, don't we?

Speaker 14 (57:23):
Tons?

Speaker 2 (57:24):
Tons? Yeah, there we go.

Speaker 5 (57:27):
See head into the next year from twenty twenty six.
We're gonna hit them milestone rightly next Springer summer.

Speaker 2 (57:32):
This summer, we will I don't know what we're gonna
do yet or if we're gonna do anything, but we
will be doing our two thousandth radio show this year.
The last one. If you'll remember, we did a one
thousandth radio show. It was in two thousand and six,

(57:53):
so it's been a while. It'll be twenty years and
well we do fifty shows a year. Figure it out. Hell,
you don't have to be a math major.

Speaker 5 (58:02):
I remember the most about that show as Matt and
I we had everything went over the night before, like
late after bar time, and said, everything up and we
had it all said. It was at Paulie's I think
here in West Ellis and we got a call, remember that, Matt.
We got a call and it was your daughter God
calling from like Iraq.

Speaker 2 (58:17):
Yeah, she was stationed in Iraq at the time and called.

Speaker 1 (58:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (58:23):
I was, you know, a little surprised, to say the least.
By the way, that same daughter is retiring in a
year from now. She's in Germany right now. Hey, thanks
so much for tuning in. It's been a great twenty
twenty five, with the exception of this last week when
we had a deal with the unbelievably terrible case of
Greg Biffle. In that entire group, So keep them in

(58:44):
your prayers this Christmas. Think about their whole family and
to all of them, you guys, Merry Christmas, Happy New Years.
We love you guys, and we'll see you in twenty
twenty six.
